« Great stay for great price »

Clean and friendly hotel. I'd stay again. Very affordable Andy a beautiful location. Internet worked well and staff was very helpful. Right on the ocean and the walking path was fabulous. Well worth the money and very affordable.

« Travelling around Vancouver Island »

The hotel is in a convenient location but there were a number of sirens through the night and the hotel is in need of needing to be updated. The breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. The internet was quick.

« Ocean Side Chalet Style »

Best Western Austrian Chalet is an older property with beautiful seaside location on the old Island Hwy in Campbell River. It is very clean comfortable, reasonable, and serves a delicious hot breakfast in the morning included. Extremely comfortable beds for a restful nights sleep. More than satisfied having stayed before, and will return again after this visit.

« Decent for the price »

This is an older hotel property, and is showing its age overall. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the bathroom was small but upgraded nicely. Not enough towels in the bathroom, especially since we used the pool. The pool is a good size, but the water was a little murky, and the edges of the pool were very chipped in some areas. The breakfast was plentiful, with enough options to satisfy us. We didn't use the waffle machines but other diners seemed to like the results. The front desk staff were very friendly and professional. There is a pub next door (not part of the hotel) where we ate twice and I would recommend - good pub food and friendly servers. My biggest criticism is that we stayed two nights, but our room was not cleaned/beds made after the first night. Good location right by the ocean. I felt that overall we got good value for the price, and I would stay in this hotel again.

    « Great sea-side experience »

I've had the pleasure of staying here a number of times last summer for work and was so impressed, I stayed here on my personal vacation with some family. The staff are great; theyre friendly and super helpful (I had some stuff stolen from my room while on one stay and they couldnt help enough with making it right) and the breakfast buffet is top notch. The views from the parking lot (and pretty much any room) of the ocean and beachside are spectacular. Very much well worth the time and money.

    « So Much Potential! »

The Best Western Austrian Chalet in Campbell River has so much potential, and with a few improvements it could be a boutique hotel. First, replace all bed linens with high quality and proper fitting sheets. (present linen is stained and torn and neither the mattress cover nor fitted sheets stayed on the bed). Second, retrain or replace housekeeping because their standards are very low. (Hair was present in every room, mirror doors were filthy, and flat surfaces AND walls all need a good sanitary wipe-down.) We had room 109, ground floor, so maybe it was a 'pet friendly' room which would explain all the hair, but if this is so, I should have been warned due to allergies. On a positive note, the location is great, front desk service is excellent, the pool, hot tub and exercise rooms are all fine, the hot free breakfast was good, and parking if free. For a hotel in the under $100 a night range, this place is a very good option and I would consider staying again if improvements were made. PS. There is NO air conditioning in this hotel. Best wishes, Paul

« Visit to Campbell River »

Good location and friendly staff but the complex is somewhat old and tired. This place could benefit from a makeover to cheer up the rooms. Good value for the price and pool for the kids. Also I think it is pet friendly and across from the ocean for walking the shore.

    2
    « poor housekeeping »

We stayed 3 nights and bed not made, no clean towels left or dirty ones removed. Dishes not clean, I had to wash them all before using. Shower would not turn off if running just a tub. The ocean view was just partial.

    « dirty moldy windows »

the windows had mold on the inside and it was so bad you could hardly see out of them. they did not recognize mt Diamond statuis, did not give me the e-m PW, did not call me back when I left a message to request it. Offered me an express check out but did not give one.

    « Beautiful views »

This hotel is right on the water ! This little gem is right across the street from the walk way along the shoreline into town . The rooms are comfortable and set up for business or pleasure. Breakfast is included in the stay and offers a great selection that sets you up for the day !! Staff are friendly and welcoming

Worst experience.. Will never use this place or recommend this place to anybody. Horrible experience. Wrong rate, wrong room and I was lied to instead of fixing the issue. Front desk people are not helpful at all.

    « 1st time in Campbell River »

The pros: -The views from the rooms are amazing. -the pub next store ( Freddie's) has good food and great staff. The pub is dated and shows wear but the food was great. - free and decent wifi The cons: -Location isn't great for those without a car. Too far to walk to town and taxi is 22 return - housekeeping is slow or overwhelmed - showed up at 545pm my second day - too late to clean so just got more coffee My third day they showed up but only made my bed. Towels were left on the floor, sinks were left dirty, didn't appear they swept or tried to really clean. This was despite my 5 dollar thank you. The pool and gym - appear to be used by locals and hotel guests. Used the gym but was made clear that it was a locals ?normal' time therefore I wasn't able to use all the equipment and / or adjust tv, lighting , etc. Overall, I wouldn't stay here again.

    « Would go again! »

My husband and I took our two kids (age 4 and 7) to the Austrian Chalet for 1 night in January to beat the winter doldrums. We were enticed by the inexpensive rate for a king loft room ($89/night) that also included an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, 6 hole mini golf and a free continental breakfast! Don't be fooled by the word 'continental' as it's so much more than that. My kids loved the waffle station complete with toppings like strawberries, coconut, oatmeal, chocolate chips (white and milk), syrup AND whipping cream. They had so much fun making their waffles! I enjoyed the scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and ham...the ham was so moist. The all day coffee in the lobby was a definite bonus. As others have stated the building is older but we were more than happy with what we got for the price we paid. It was clean and comfortable. Loved having the privacy the loft created. The ocean view from our room was a bonus too! Apparently there were multiple hockey teams staying at the hotel the night we were there but they caused no problems and I slept very well. The pool was lovely and warm too! We often find hotel pools to be SO cold. Not this one. The sauna was a nice addition and the hot tub was adequately hot. The kids thought the hot tub was too hot so you know it's good! Would bring the kids back again! Thank you BW Austrian Chalet!

« Awesome Staff! Great hotel rooms »

Great place to stay! Was amazing service the minute we got there to the minute we checked out ! Room was super clean and lots of space for Myself and my buddy with his son! The pool area is relaxing and nice to enjoy. Breakfast was great lots to choose from. For sure staying here again!

    3
    « Terrible stay »

I've stayed at this location dozens of times and it seems every time I stay the experience gets worse. Dirty rooms, very toilet paper, breakfast was not served at the times they stated . Billing check out took too long and when I asked for email checkout the bill was incorrect. I had a do not disturb sign on the door but the staff still knocked on the door and also called twice by phone. My business will not be staying at this location ever again.

« Great value with some irritations »

The motor in is located across the road from Georgia Straight with great views. The room was standard, but with a luxurious king sized bed. TV channels were extensive and Wi-Fi available. Parking was right behind our unit even though we were on the second level. On the irritating side the heating system was uncontrollable and we had to have the patio door to the deck open all the time. The bathroom sink took minutes to drain. As it was Xmas busy and we were staying for a week our room was not cleaned until around 5 pm. The staff would show and ask if we needed any room service. I had to list what we needed. Better would be if the staff announced they were here to do our room and then do their usual routine. The place was not vacuumed I the week we were there. On the whole the staff were professional, friendly and efficient. Extra facilities like pool, sauna, and weight room were great and breakfast included eggs, bacon, and ham as we?l as large selection of other items. A good value except for the irritations.

    4
    « Great Price »

This is an older hotel, but the room was clean and provided what I wanted. Excellent price. I enjoyed the pool, hot tub and sauna. Breakfast was good, except for the muffins and I would like to see bananas offered. Good location across from the sea walk and not far from downtown. Staff that I had contact with were very friendly and courteous.

« Christmas at Best Western Austrian Chalet »

Always a pleasure to stay at the Best Western Austrian Chalet near Campbell River. A great location across from the ocean, very comfortable beds, clean rooms and pleasant staff. Located a short distance from my daughter's home which makes getting together much easier.

    « comfortable »

Very comfortable beds, quiet. Breakfast is good. The staff are very helpful. Nice little mini-golf putting area. The indoor pool is great. We usually stay here when we are in Campbell River. Will stay again.

    « Great value »

Staff was very friendly. Rooms are a bit older but in good condition plus being nice and clean is always a bonus. The pool facilities were definitely a added bonus. The breakfast was complete including the waffle machine. All in all the value for the money is great, would stay there again.

    « Family get away »

It was ok the housekeeping was a little poor our room didn't get cleaned till late in the day and our towels never got changed or we never got as many back and our room only got vacuumed once and out bedding never got switched

« Tear this place down and rebuild »

the hotel is old, the room was dirty, old food and garbage behind the night stand when I plugged in my phone. the heat didn't work and it had an old building musty smell, the staff were pleasant. I would not stay here again

    « Best Stay »

My stay at the BW in Campbell River was excellent, quiet, clean, and very comfortable. The tubs are exceptionally large :-), a great stay, and I am looking forward to my next stay. The continental breakfast was very good. I was expecting muffins fruit and cold cereal, they have all this, but they also have waffles "make your own", which was delicious. Beyond my expectation of a continental breakfast. This location is a stone's through away from the beach, which for me is the best place to relax and watch the boats go by.

    4
« Good value, pet friendly, decent breakfast! »

Great value for money - and pet friendly! Hotel is old and rooms do look dated but beds are comfortable. Breakfast is quite good. We were a bit chilly in our room and they immediately brought us a heater to warm the room.

    2
« Not friendly or helpful at all »

I called and booked a room in the late morning for that evening. I was planning on travelling down from north island, and then I got held up and my plans changed. I called back to cancel my reservation a few hours later, and was told that there was a 24 hour cancellation policy. I was not told this once while I was making the reservation nor did it say anything about this on the confirmation paperwork. I told the lady that I hadnt even had the reservation for 24 hours - let alone be able to cancel it... and she rudely told me that she would do nothing and I would be charged. I looked at my credit card bill and they acharged me 2.5x what the room was worth???? Like really??? So no - Will never be staying at this hotel.

    5
    « Great Spot »

I enjoyed my stay. I was in town for work but would recommend this location for avocation, too. Great view, close to sea walk, nice facilities, pub next door, EXCELLENT water pressure. ***For some reason this form is requiring 200 words minimum which is kind of irritating.

    4
    « Concert »

The location is great as it is directly across from the water. Very convent to downtown. Restaurant directly beside the hotel was convenient. Close to shopping, food, entertainment. Hotel staff was amazing! Room was update, comfortable and roomy. Breakfast included was great, not just muffins and donuts like some places. Would definitely stay here again.

« Best Western Austrian Chalet, Campbell River, B.C. »

My Father's family all lives in Campbell River and every time I have visited I wanted to someday stay at the Austrian Chalet (now a Best Western property). It always looked so intriguing and so beautiful when we would see it from off shore while boating. My Husband and I recently had the opportunity to stay there when we were in town for a Celebration of Life for my Father. It was the first hotel that we looked into as it was on my wish list and fit us for location to our Family gathering. We couldn't have been happier with our experience there, we enjoyed the room and view very much and after only a few hours there I wished we could have stayed for 3 nights instead of just the one. When arriving early after a long travel and our room was not ready to occupy we were given an upgrade to get us into a room right away, that was so kind.

    5
    « Great accommodations »

I am not the kinda guy to write reviews but I had a great stay and being an avid traveller I felt it necessary to do them justice and recommend everyone stay at this hotel, great service with great views

    5
    « Excellent stay »

We stayed after a surgery in Campbell River and wanted a comfortable, relaxing hotel for our stay. At first, we couldn't get WIFI on my mac. The kind lady asked an IT fellow who fixed it right a way for us. She offered us another room if we could get better reception. They were extremely accommodating. The room is very comfortable - king bed, bar fridge, big screen digital TV with good choice of channels. Great room temperature control. Very clean. Breakfast was more than continental with plain scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with cheddar and bacon, hash brown, self serve waffle maker, yogurt, fresh fruit, grapefruit, orange and apple juice, bread and toaster, pastries and great coffee. We would stay here again.

    « Great Hotel »

We did a road trip to see northern Vancouver Island. This was our last night on our way home. Very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful room and great breakfast. We would definitely stay there the next time we are in Campbell River.

« Good place to stay »

This motel has all the necessities you need. Good breakfast, pool, exercise room, really close to the ocean, reasonably quiet and close to downtown. Comfortable bed, good wi fi service, fridge and a portable fan if needed.

    « Watch your bill »

We stayed here for four days and had agreed on $89 a night, they offered express checkout emailed to me. On the emailed check out, I was charged$98 a night, I've tried to email them and replied to the emailed checkout, all come back as undeliverable.

    « Everything we needed. »

The staff was great and the amenities were awesome. The view of Cape Mudge from the room was spectacular. Jaccuzi worked well and the bed was really comfortable. There was a bit of highway noise but this is all I can think of to complain about.

« Not The Best Hotel I Have Stayed At. »

I had a one night, business trip stay at this facility. You need to carry any bags up stairs. I was tired; had a long drive and day. I asked if my room was on the ground level and was told 'yes'. It was one flight upstairs. Not impressed. The toilet rocked on its' flange. Again not impressed. Room was very clean but crowded with amenities. Again nice. I slept well; got up early and went to Tim Horton's for breakfast.

    4
« Nice location, good service, kind of quirky »

No complaints here. Great shoulder season rates and Campbell River makes a great destination. The FD staff were totally friendly and accommodating...we ended up with a ncie loft room for 89 a night. Breakfast was also fine...the usual BW breakfast room fare. Wish they'd can it with all the throw away styro stuff and paper plates though! Best thing here is the view from the hotel....you can watch salmon jumping from the strait just outside! The mini golf and laundry add to the amenities and makeit a good place to bring kids. I'd stay again if I am back in the area.

    « Family time »

Had a lovely stay at the Best Western Austrian Chalet in Campbell River. Enjoyed most of the amenities (pool, breakfast, internet). Rain stopped us from playing miniature golf. Enjoyed visiting with family who live in Campbell River. Would definitely return to this motel. Very friendly staff.

« Nice facility in Campbell River, BC »

Friendly and helpful staff. Good complimentary breakfast, although some rooms require walking outside to access the breakfast room. Lots of free parking. Good restaurant/pub on-site. Good wi-fi. The shower wall could have been cleaner. Exercise room and pool are available, Nice walking path along the river, just across the street.

    « View Spectacular »

We stayed here three nights in October, we booked two rooms, both happen to be kitchenettes. Would be better if they had an accessible room on the ground floor that had a kitchenette. We clearly stated during booking, we had a elder with a disability with us in one of the rooms, we wanted two rooms adjoining or side by side and one with a kitchenette. The rooms we were booked in, took care of almost all of our needs. We did not know the walk to the breakfast room included a long stair case or a long walk around the facility to access it. This was a disappointment. The rooms were not very clean, the Kleenex dispenser on the counter in the bathroom had dust on it, there was what appeared to be a gummy lifesaver on the floor, the kitchens were not stocked very well and definitely not consistent from room to room, we had to call down to the desk three times to get things for the kitchen brought up, so we could prepare meals. Our friends in the room next to us, also had to bring over items from their kitchen, to allow the four of us to enjoy a sit down meal. The fridges were noisy, made strange sounds throughout the night, made for a less than desirable first nights sleep. No disabled parking stalls close to either of the rooms we were booked in. The three nights we were there, not once did housekeeping vacuum our floor, easily determined due to needles from the trees on the floor, tracked in on our shoes from the parking lot. The views from the rooms was spectacular, we watched fisherman standing out in the water, watched fish jumping just feet from where they were standing with their rods. The sunrise from the room, was beautiful. We ordered flowers for our friends Anniversary, left clear instruction to have them placed in their room, before we arrived at 3pm. We arrived, to check in and noticed them sitting on the desk in the office, this was a huge disappointment, that this simple request was not carried out before we arrived. We had to take our time, getting into our vehicle, to head to our rooms, to allow the desk personnel to rush the flowers to their room. The bed, in my humble opinion was uncomfortable, woke with sore back each morning, due to how firm the bed is. Signs every where about air miles, however we were told at front desk during check in that they do not do air miles. The personnel at check in time, assured us she would look up our Best Western rewards account and apply our credit/points for the two rooms at three night stays for each room, whether or not she did this, we do not know.

« Warmest welcome and service »

This hotel may be in need of a face lift, but our room (loft) was tidy, beds comfortable. We spent two nights (28-30 Sept) and had a good time. Breakfast was nice (apart may be from the plastic cutlery) but the lady looking after the breakfast lobby, Tonia, was lovely and cheerful. She took the time to chat with us and to give us tips on things to do and see in Tofino. The omelet stand was also a very nice surprise, as was the waffle machine. We spent 18 nights during our tour in Canada from Calgary to Vancouver, but never were we welcomed better than by Chris, the reception lady in this Best Western. Such warm genuine kindness and helpfullness is rare. You would choose this hotel just to meet her. Many thanks Chris, Tonia, and staff. Belgian lady with French hubby.

« Perfect location for exploring and the view across to Quadra was amazing. »

Having just spent 2 weeks at this Motel, cannot fault it all, reasonable price great location for exploring the Island and the staff were brilliant, thanks Chris, Michelle and Kelly, also Tonia who were so friendly and helpful they couldn't do enough for us I'm sure we wouldn't have got the same friendly service anywhere else, definitely stay again. The rooms were clean, fresh towels daily if required and any other problems dealt with on request, I don't know what some people expect for the price you pay, if you want deluxe you pay deluxe price, with a buffet breakfast this was definitely great value for money, thanks everyone for making our stay a brilliant experience

    5
    « Great service »

It was so interesting to have the opportunity to have an omelette prepared for us. This hot breakfast feature was appreciated by both my spouse and I. The loft room we were assigned offered all the amenities we needed. The location of the hotel is excellent. Saw 2 cruise ships proceeding through passage while there. Great front desk people.

« Terrible service. Old building »

We booked this hotel for business trip. To start we were told, 1/2 hour before our arrival, that we will have to change room few times during our stay. When we objected, the clerk became very unpleasant and gave us considerable attitude, but arrange for the room not to be change during our stay. However, the room we were given had cold water running 24/7 in mildew covered bathroom. The room was very small and not really suited for 1 week stay. Maintenance was send to our room with no notification and the bathroom was rendered unusable for hours. More attitude at the front desk when we complaint. Terrible hotel, terrible service. Will never stay here again and wonder about the integrity of Best Western as a whole.

    4
« Value place to stay »

Well positioned on coast road this is a standard motel with a teeney weeney extra bit of character, good pool sauna hot tub and gym and free breakfast. Some rooms might get a bit of road noise but it is not a big problem. Nice views across the water to the rockies.

    1
    « Too damn hot »

Unsatisfactory financial conclusion to our stay. Should not have been charged at all for one night stay. See previous comments. This particular facility is in dire need of an upgrade. I am surprised that Best Western is content to have their good name attached to this establishment.

    4
    « Older But Great »

The rooms and décor are older and could use a refresh, but the entire hotel is very clean and the views are wonderful. I found the staff to be knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. As I was on a business trip, I used the internet quite often, with no issues. I would absolutely stay here again!

    « Good place for a stopover »

Stayed here for two nights on driving holiday through Vancouver Island. Staff lovely and helpful. There are some good additional facilities for children to help entertain them. WiFi good. Breakfast was not great. Still, the room rate was very reasonable.

« Worst hotel we ever booked! »

Most dirty hotel we have ever booked! There was hair - from all body parts! - and dust everywhere on the floor in the bathroom, I do not even want to know what was on the carpet in the room. When we noticed this when checking-in we returned to the lobby to ask to get the place cleaned as this was clearly not done for probably several weeks. The only answer we got is that they would notify the cleaning crew for the next day. Since they did not have slippers available we were forced to walk around with our socks which we threw out when leaving. We expected, since the cleaning crew was notified, that we would enter a clean room and bathroom the next day - what a joke. Nothing was cleaned!!! They just hung up our towels and made up the bed but clearly nobody bothered even swiping the floor. We of course went back to the reception where they acted surprised since there was a clean note for the people to clean the room but there was yet again nothing they could do about it in the evening and the manager was not around. But they promised us that the manager would be there the next morning already from 7AM. We checked-out around 8AM and of course no manager to talk about this important issue was around. Hygiene a big fat zero and customer service equally bad - DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE!

    4
    « Really good breakfast »

Really good service and a great free breakfast with omelettes. Great for kids as they have a indoor pool and mini golf. The loft room is awesome. The pub next door is pretty good as well. It's a little out of town but the beach is right across the road.

    2
    « Dirty »

House keeping was poor. Garbage left in can, potatoe chips all over balcony. Was woken up by house keeping even though do not disturb sign was up. I will try not to stay here again. The front desk was really good.

    2
« Door to our room was wideopen for hours »

Our room was affected by a lot of noise, partly from the highway and partly the ice cube machine close by. We also had the noise and smell from the breakfast kitchen downstairs since 5 am in the morning. However, the breakfast was ok. But the worst part concerning our 3 days stay was the fact that when we returned from an all-day excursion we found the door to our room wide open. Probably not closed by the maid since we closed the door when we left. Nothing was missing but still - we had all our valuables in the room and it is not what you would expect to happen. When we claimed it in the reception we got no excuse what so ever!

« Right on the ocean, yet next to the highway »

Miss beautiful acquainted Hotel greets you with flower boxes everywhere. You feel like you have stepped into Austria. The stuff are simply amazing. So cheerful and helpful to meet any of your needs. The view of the ocean is lovely. There is a somewhat busy small highway just outside the front of the hotel which does affect the quietness. The breakfast was far superior to most offering an omelet bar! Quite a lovely stay.

    « Comfortable Stay »

Comfortable hotel with very attentive staff, pool, fitness facility was good and the rooms are clean and adequately furnished. The location is perfectly situated on the highway facing the water which makes for a very enjoyable sunset and sunrise.

« Excellent quality for the price »

This hotel is perfect for travelling with children given the pool, courtyard activities, proximity to the beach, and included breakfast. And all of this at a very reasonable and affordable price. The breakfast also had plenty of hot options, including waffles and custom made omelettes.

    « Really comfy bed...noisy neighbours »

The room was really clean and the bed was extremely comfy. We had a pizza delivery to our room without any issues. The bathroom was clean and neat but I had one slight quibble...the shower curtain was torn and the rubber bath mat was ripped which I felt let the bathroom down as the rest of the bathroom was immaculate. We had a number of kids in the rooms next door and they were running around quite a lot, this is not too much of a problem in normal hours but it went on past 10PM. we rang the front desk and asked them to deal with it...they did and the noise went away. On top of the noise with the neighbours...the door that was on the stair well slammed every time the door opened with guests entering and leaving the building...this could be easily fixed by fitting a door arrest to make sure my fillings were not shaken on every door movement. Please consider rectifying in the future.

    « Good stay »

I hadn't stayed here before so didn't know what to expect. I had a king room in the back with a patio overlooking the parking lot and water. Very comfortable bed. Updated room with a stove, fridge and stove top. Also updated bathroom. Very clean room. The only complaint was the room was extremely warm. There are no ac units but they have a fan. Even when you leave the doors open to cool things down, the room heated up again within 1/2 an hour. Don't know why the room heated up so much. The place had a very good breakfast including an omelette station. Great strudels. A nice pool, exercise area, ping pong table and mini golf. Some nice extras included. Nice place too stay.

    « Family Jewel »

Great spot for family. Loft was spacious and beds were comfortable. Mini-put, ping pong and pool great for the kids and sauna and hot tub for us to unwind. Breakfast selection was super although it could use some fruit and the omelette line can get long.

« Vacation place to relax and enjoy the sea view. »

The hotel is located in front of the water and most rooms see the water. The second and the third floors can see the water better than the first floor. There is a street to cross to go from the hotel to the water. There is no beach and the shore is not clean enough to sit on the water side. There are parking at the back of the hotel which can be at the door step of your room. The complimentary breakfast is OK. Do not wait til the last 20 minutes to go breakfast, you may not find a lot left. The staff are helpful and nice.

    « Very Good »

Affordable clean stay, would go back again. Also had, ping-pong, mini-golf, pool, sauna and hot tub! Location and view were great as well. For the price and what you receive is very good value for your money.

    « Comfy Resort »

Our rooms were in the main building with views of the Sound. Comfy, homey and pretty spacious. Although carpets on stairway were a bit worn, our room was clean and well serviced. Loved the little balcony. Beds very good. Resort includes amenities we didn't have time for --- pool, tennis courts, gardens. Service in pub was decent, and we enjoyed great fish and chips. Complimentary breakfast also good, with three different egg options, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt & cereal and not so great sweet rolls. Eating breakfast on the View deck was a real bonus!

    « not impressed »

i have been going here for years and never had any issues, the new owners took over prices went WAY up, the rooms have no changed they still dont have AC, its still dated and there are still silverfish in the rooms. you can get better priced clean rooms with AC elsewhere in town.

« Good option for a stay in Campbell River »

We stayed here in August 2017 for 3 nights. First impressions were not great - the interior of the hotel is tired and worn and definitely needs a re-vamp. However, the minute we opened our door, we were impressed - a very large, clean room - and it even had an upstairs, which impressed our 9 year old son no end! We had a balcony view which was good, although the hotel is situated on the main road, so there is (a bit of) noise. The indoor pool is large and there is a sauna. There is also mini golf and table tennis, and the staff are very friendly. Centre of town would be about a 30 min walk, although not very pleasant, as it would be along the highway, so we always drove. The breakfast was adequate rather than great and only runs till 9am, so not one for late risers! Overall, we enjoyed our stay here, and, if you can live with the very tired interior corridors and staircases, I'd recommend it.

    3
    « Good location so-so breakfast »

Stayed do a weekend dive trip - excellent diving nearby. Most of the rooms have no AC and opening the widows let in a lot of traffic noise. Breakfast was crowded requiring good timing and raised elbows to get a waffle. Wi fi was fine. All in all just a place to sleep.

    4
« Great stay for famillies and teams »

Stayed 4 nights with our ball team. Kids had a great time. We used the BBQ area for a team function. This was a great space for team functions. Rooms were your normal 3 star rooms, no complaints. Breakfast was your typical free breakfast with the exception of the made to order omelette station, that was a pleasant surprise. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

    5
« Clean, handy and very comfy. »

Great place. We hunkered down and quite enjoyed the stay. Nice indoor pool... continental breakfast was nice. Good selection of food including personalized omelets. Downside was the folks in the breakfast area were not winners in the friendly department, and it was short-staffed (or seemed to be). Long lineups, shortages of food (today was an example... no eggs so my wife had bacon... and the lone employee was making noise about being the only one working, yet she made omelets... with no bread, bagels... no waffle batter...). Kind of a poor setup... which caused a poor flow of customers looking for food.

« Great Value - Clean Friendly and Free Breakfast! »

We stayed here for three days. Check in was friendly and we were offered free coffee and good Wi-Fi while we waited for our room to be ready. We had booked a King with Kitchenette. It was very clean and huge. Much more than we had expected for what we paid. There was a loft bedroom upstairs with king bed and it's own TV. On the main floor there was a sofa and chair along with another larger TV and a desk. There is a bathroom and a fully stocked kitchenette. It had dishes, glassware, silverware, and cooking utensils along with a cooktop, microwave and fridge. Everything was spotless. We lucked out and got one of the end rooms so we had two sliding glass doors each with a view of the water. The hotel is located right across the street from the Seawalk and a tidal beach. There is an indoor heated pool, hot tub and sauna however the hot tub was broken while we were there, they said they were waiting on parts to fix it. There is a small exercise room with a few machines right next to the pool. They offer a BBQ grill in an area with tables as well so you can cook and eat right there. Great breakfast in the morning. there is a person cooking omelettes to order. There is also scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage (they switch each day), potatoes, waffles with all the trimmings along with all the regular things like oatmeal, cereal, toast donughts, pastries, milk, juice, coffee, tea, etc. Very convenient location for us. Just at the edge of town so you have easy access to stores, restaurants etc. (there is a small restaurant/pub right next door). Wi-Fi is free and was very good. All in all, a great stay. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Tip: ..Check out Crabby Bobs at the Marina for fresh Seafood, and/or Dicks just across the street for great fish and chips. Crabby Bobs is actually a small seafood shop, but they do have a few tables. They will clean and cook your purchase and serve your food so you can enjoy it right on the water. We got the sampler with a whole crab and it was more than enough for two people and with the good exchange rate it was a great deal. While we were eating a big fishing boat pulled up just yards from us and offloaded crates of fresh caught crab, then as fast as they appeared, they were gone. Talk about farm to table!

    4
« Great Location, and clean »

This hotel is in an excellent area, directly across from the water. It was clean, the room is nice. The complimentary breakfast is excellent and the staff was friendly. I would definetly recommend this hotel.

    « Relaxing & Enjoyable »

The one night stay was a real treat to end our 1 week backcountry camping trip. Nice renovated room with a very cold mini fridge to keep our snacks and beverages perfectly chilled. The front desk provided us with the requested amenities, as we packed the real basics. Thank you to the lovely Debbie at the desk for her genuine customer service and positive personality. The pool was great and we loved the sauna to soothe our achy muscles (hot tub unavailable this stay). Our lil patio on the ground level was full of wildlife! A friendly deer walked right past me and enjoyed an evening snack. Gorgeous view of the ocean beyond the steady moving highway. We were pleased to fuel up in the morning with a delicious complimentary continental breakfast with plenty of tasty options. I'd recommend this spot to all sorts of travellers, especially families with the mini putt and ping pong table in the contained courtyard.

    3
« Alright place to stay »

The hotel is getting very dated. Its right on the highway so if you want to keep your windows it is very loud. The breakfast was amazing. Only half of the hotel has air conditioning so that was fun. But it was right on the water front and a great walking path up and down. The mini golf coarse in the middle of the hotel is great for kids

    3
    « Leisure trip »

Hotel was OK but if redeeming loyalty points, would be better to pay as you'll get a better room. Breakfast was awesome, mini golf was good and a great spot near the oceans edge. Having to check out once your free night stay had expired was a pain as the room we were to pay for wasn't ready so had to pack up and wait 5 hours till the next room was available.

    3
    « Good cheap accommodation »

The price is excellent for this motel style best western but it is so, so dated now.... the rooms are clean but very old in terms of carpeting, decor etc. The corridors are even older...... but if you want a cheap place to stay that is clean and of reasonable quality, then this is fine! The breakfast is good...... fridge in room is also useful (mini kitchenette almost). 'Sea view' rooms may well have a sea view... but it isn't direct sea facing and is across a busy road.

    5
« Still a Nice Place to Stay »

My husband used to stay here in the late 70s and it's still a nice place to stay. There is no air conditioning for those warm summer nights but they do provide a fan. The breakfast is very good with an added touch of an omelet station. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable and the little balcony with chairs and a table were great. We overlooked the ocean and it was amazing - cruise ships sail right on by!

    5
    « Great Stay »

I really enjoyed my stay here. I was very late checking in and the friendly lady at the front desk had all the paperwork in order so I could speed through and get 10 more minutes of rest for the night. The staff I encountered in the morning at breakfast were also very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.

    5

This hotel is serviceable but a bit run down and tired looking. Everything works and the breakfast is good. Staff were friendly and helpful but there was nobody at the front desk when we wanted to check out.

    « Cozy! »

Good place to stay while in Campbell River. Reasonably priced, good location. Near amenities and close to the water. Quite rooms, decent TV's in room. Hot tub and pools are helpful for a relaxing soke. Public use of BBQ is a nice touch.

« Excellent value in Campbell River »

From the beautiful grounds to the spectacular mountain views across the bay to the most comfortable rooms - this hotel is a great find. The full breakfast, with omelet bar, was the best we've had. The staff are friendly and helpful. Absolutely, top notch - we can't wait to go back.

Friendly, informative staff :) Clean, comfortable room. Enjoyed the pool/hot tub area. Great breakfast in a large sunny dining room with water views. It was quiet and we slept very well. We were really pleased and will definitely stay here again!

« Quaint but tired looking... »

Interesting concept: climb a set of stairs to get to your bedroom!! Everything looked tired: carpet, furniture, decor, etc. Otherwise the staff was very helpful and friendly. Pleasant surprise at breakfast: there was an omelette station!! Good location with great view, but the hotel most definitely needs a facelift!!

    « Great hotel »

Very friendly staff, fast informative staff at checkin, great big hot breakfast, beds were a little hard. Pool was warm and clean. Need pool towels by pool area. Bathroom had old bathtub but it was clean.

    « Dated but fantastic »

On initial check in we were provided a room once we got up to the room we had neighbors with small children I went down to the front desk and asked to be changed to another room, explained we were there for our anniversary they changed our room immediately. The new room was fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The breakfast that is included is like no other hotel breakfast offered that I have seen bog points for that - I love food lol. They had an area to BBQ, a pool, mini golf next to a pub, great walking paths across the street along the ocean wall. I would stay here again no questions about it

« Provides All You Need »

We stayed here one night. Our room was ready upon our arrival and provided everything we needed for our stay. Having a small refrigerator in our room was a bonus and the mattress on the bed was very good. The grounds are probably quite nice in the summer. The grass looked long and untended but it had been raining heavily so likely they were unable to get around to mowing. It was great being next to the beach but there is a lot of road noise. If this is a problem for you, ask for a room away from the road. Parking was plentiful. We were disappointed that we had flaky wifi upon our arrival and the computers in the lobby were also down. It was unclear at first if anyone was going to move to resolve the problem and we were directed to head to McDonalds. Eventually, though, we got a call to our room and they did double check that we had regained access. Others have commented that the place is a little outdated. I noticed a lot of renovation activity so I believe the facility is working on this throughout their property. As well, I agree that the breakfast provided, has everything you could want for in an easy, meal to get your day started. We would stay here again but would ask to be further from the road next time.

« Good locationj, but place is dated »

Stayed mid-week in early April. Room was a loft unit. Beds were upstairs and clean and comfortable. The earea we were in is in need of updating; carpets need replacing, musty smell along the hallways. The hotel is built into a hill, so parking and walking access is not the easiest. It appears that this was an open wealkway hotel that has that the walkways enclosed, this hallways are very narrow. Free breakfast ends at 9am, so not the most convenient - should extend to at least 10 am. Personally, would look for a different hotel if we were to travel here again.

    5
    « Wonderful Family Stay »

This was a perfect place to stay for a young family, rooms where not massive but had enough room for everything. Breakfast was amazing and the ocean just a few steps away! We would most defiantly recommend this hotel to others.

    « Road Trip »

Well we booked for two nights then it became four nights. Our rooms were clean, bright and comfortable. Because we extended our stay - we had to change rooms for our last night. Both our rooms were more than satisfactory. Our first room had a bedroom area with a TV and lounge area with another TV. This was good as my wife and I ended up, watching two different TV programs. Our second room was more motel like. But no problem, we could go for a walk along the ocean shore, go to the fitness center, or pool or play mini golf. The room after all is for sleeping. The free breakfast that we ate every morning. It was satisfactory and we never went away hungry or unhappy. Yes they served coffee and it was good, not like one other place we were at where I couldn't get it down. The price was fair. We enjoyed very much our swim every night then a soak in the hot tub. My wife and I enjoyed playing mini golf in the rain.. hey it's BC it's always raining.. Front desk and maintenance and housekeepers and breakfast hosts were all super friendly and kind. We asked for a microwave, we brought some food with us to eat and they provided one so quick. *** all is NOT good. They are working on it I'm told.. the Internet was so slow. How slow? Worse than the original dial up when internet first appeared on the scene many years ago. In the breakfast area .. wow high speed zip zip uploads done, but not in our rooms. One other issue.. owners should get together with other establishments along the road and lobby the city to stop Hugh Tucks from parking along the ocean shore. As a visitor I want to look out my window and see ocean not a parked transport. Lobby get this changed into a no parking zone. My wife and I are well pleased and would stay here again . Side note, they provided a towel and a treat for our pooch when I asked about a dog bed. They don't offer dog beds because of housekeeping issues. I think though they should invest in dog bowl though for water and food.

« One night stop on our way to the north island »

This hotel was awful, paper thin walls, parties feeling like they were in your living room. Beds were awful and lumpy. It was really hot in the rooms and you couldn't adjust the temp properly. Don't. Other with this place, there are way nicer places close by. I knew someone staying at Heron's Landing at the same time and it looked a lot better we would probably stay there instead next time.

« Dated place in great location »

We came here lured by them having the "best ratings in town". It shouldn't have.... Even though it is a nice place in a great location and all the renovations/remodellings on the surface they have done are really done well, this is a very old building and it shows: Dated heating system and bathroom facilities, windows that do not block any sound or temperatures, old pipes and plumbing that make lots of noises and an overall dated feel. We were in a ground floor room facing the court yard and had very cold floors, could hear the pool pump/ventilator throughout the night as well as dripping inside the walls (or behind it, where there's the laundry room that makes lots of noise, too). The mattress was quite old and soggy. The breakfast was an adventure by itself. Small room with tons of machines that gave us quite a hard time in the morning. Things are spread across the room, nothing could be easily found and there was noone to assist. There are only a few tables and the room is way to small to comfortably sit, especially with a TV blasting at full volume and screaming kids... Nice looking terrace area (small), that might make this easier in summer months...

    4
« Nice place to stay overnight, great breakfast »

Stayed there for one night with group of friends in one of loft units. The room can have 6 guests, but in my opinion four is maximum number of guests which can stay there comfortably. There were 5 of us, and it was a bit tight. Also there were only 3 sets of towels. Lady at front desk couldn't give us regular towels by some reason, but gave plenty of pool towels. I don't really care what kind of towel it is, as long as it is clean. Those were clean, so it all worked out. The breakfast in the morning was great and greatly improved my opinion about the hotel. They had everything - waffles, omelette, sausages, yoghurt, cereals, fruits, pastries etc. etc. I'll probably stay there again if I ever happen to be in Campbell River.

« Best Western Austrian Chalet Campbell River, BC »

This hotel has a wonderful view of the ocean. There is a paved walking/biking path just across the Hi-way for an invigorating morning outing. There is a pool and exercise room which we didn't use because of lack of time. We had a very comfortable room with a loft bedroom and a mini kitchen. Everything was clean and pleasant looking. The breakfast was adequate and the staff was very friendly. Good value for the price! Would come again.

« Consider for short stay, esp. if you are a Member »

The reviews are true: this motel needs an outside makeover. BUT being a BW Member, I paid about half the price of the fancy hotel next door ($200+/night) for an ocean view (not always direct, as the building is U-shaped) with a loft. Microwave, fridge, clean bedding and bathroom. Nice balcony to sit outside and enjoy the view. Wifi works. There is a super walk along the water outside the hotel, plus a stone marker where the 50th parallel lies (so close by!). Traffic noise wasn't an issue. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The indoor pool is in a separate building which means you have to step outside (in the rain in our case) to get to it. To be strategic about the free breakfast room, which can only hold about 25 people, and manned by one staff person, you need to get there by 8 am or you will be waiting for a table to free up (in September). Waffle-maker!--highlight of breakfast. Too bad about the plastic cutlery and plates -- definitely a garbage-filler. To save money, consider this place for short stays in high season but 3 days or more and low season stays, go next door.

    4
« Great stay for a few days »

We usually come to Campbell River at least once a year and have always stayed here. Older hotel but have had some upgrades to the rooms. The rooms are clean and the hotel is well situated. The pub that is adjacent to the property is great for pub food and drinks. Nice treat to get out and not have to drive. The hotel could use outside cosmetic upgrades but still is really clean and well kept grounds. Breakfast is fabulous with hot bacon and eggs as well as all other items. Hotel is right across from the ocean with a walkway that goes on for miles.

    3
    « WOW, Not WHAT I EXPECTED »

We got a second story suite over looking the ocean and highway. This is not a new property. It was likely re-branded as Best Western from a ma and pa show. The receptionist was pleasant, but the actual reception area is not all that inviting although there has been an attempt to upgrade it. We spent two nights here. Part of the reason that I booked here for two nights was the pool. Sadly, the pool was not in order so there went the fun that my daughter and I would have had in the evenings. The windows are old, 1970 early 80s. the rooms are cramped. The beds hard and not that comfortable. The noise from traffic had no problem passing through the 1970 or 80s technology. So traffic noise is very noticeable. There was no air con, so the room was quite hot. This did not meet the Best Western Brand you would have expected. Keep this in mind. I give this a 2 because I was misled by the Best Western Brand. You could hear the family above us as if the floors were made of cardboard. They upgraded the kitchette to modern standards. Its a tight fit, but cooking is possible in it.

    5
    « Thanksgiving weekend getaway! »

We toured quadra island and were really ready to relax when we got to the hotel. The room was large with a king bed, desk, wifi, etc. It more than met our expectations. After our rest, we visited relatives for an early thanksgiving dinner and returned to the hotel about 10pm. The next morning we enjoyed a fabulous free breakfast offering that included eggs, bacon, potatoes, waffles, coffee, juice, etc. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

    3
« An all right place to stay »

This I would say Motel more than a Hotel is all right for one nights stop over. The rooms are round a courtyard. The rooms are clean and there is a coffee machine with coffee and tea provided there is also a fridge. There is a laundry room for guests but the night we were there the washing machine was out of order. The whole place could do with a make over. The breakfast room is not large but the breakfast was good lots of choice.

    « Needs a facelift! »

The room itself was ok if a little dated but clean enough, however the 'free breakfast' was poor. Paper plates, plastic cutlery and the hot buffet was 'interesting'. the breakfast area is very small and could hardly cope in the October low season so can't imagine what its like in high season

    5
    « Excellent Travel Experience »

With the friendly staff and the stunning location, you will not want to stay anywhere else!! The in house Breakfast is second to none. At home you could not make a better breakfast with a huge, with variety, hot breakfast

    2
    « Tired »

Room itself was OK, but this hotel is quite tired and dated. Appalling breakfast served on paper plates and plastic cutlery, compounded by a room that is too small to cope with demand. Some rooms are on a third floor, and there are no lifts, so pack light!!. In my opinion you can probably find better in Campbell River.

    3
« Nice view and room »

Room was clean and quiet and the bed is comfortable. There was a great view from the balcony. Morning fog horns were a little interesting but it's not the fault of the hotel. Nice ocean walk right outside the room. Staff is friendly and polite. Not much food within walking distance except Freddie's, which is okay.

    3
    « What a pity »

The room and facilities in the room were very good, comfortable and relatively quiet. The ocean view from the balcony is stunning and really a bonus. The position of the hotel is on the Island highway about 4 kilometres outside the town centre so it is ideally situated. The biggest disappointment is the small breakfast room, there are not enough tables, the guests have to queue for a table unless they are lucky. The toaster of which there is only one is terribly slow and causes much frustration. The staff are good, but they too are let down by this.

    4

« Excellent hotel by the sea! »

I would have given 5 star rating, but for the cleanliness. Our family was here for 3 days, and we loved every moment of our stay. Pros: location, breakfast, activities like swimming pool, hot tub, ping pong, mini golf, etc, friendly staff. Cons: housekeeping is bad! we were out all of 2nd day, when we came back, only the washroom was cleaned and 2 out 3 beds were made. Rest of the room was as bad as we had left it. Overall I would still rate it 4 star for all the pros. My kids loved it! We even got to make a bonfire on the beach!!

    4
    « Pleasant stay »

A comfortable hotel, if on the upper floors you will have to carry your bags up one or two sets of stairs as no lifts . Comfortable beds and clean linen, a room set too the back the hotel a little quieter as the road out front is constantly busy. A more than sufficient breakfast, small laundry, nice gym room, swimming pool and small crazy golf for children. A pleasant stop over for a few days , it is a little out of town so your own transport a plus. We did not try it but there is a restaurant next door . Lovely view from some rooms.

Great little hotel about everything you need. The rooms were clean and well kept. Laundry was really easy to use and the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfast I've seen. Is it the most modern of hotels, no, but for the price it's hard to beat.

    « Great room but.... »

Great mini suite with balcony and seaside view, more comfortable than expected by the looks. A good nights sleep in comfy beds. The complimentary breakfast was simple but good - but the breakfast room couldn't accommodate the amount of people that showed up for breakfast.

    « Great hotel, crap Wi-Fi »

We stayed for two days at this nice hotel. It consists of a couple of seperate buildings with a patio in the middel. One of them is the reception building with the breakfast room. There is a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna present. Also a gym with work-out equipement. The rooms are spatious and the buillding we were in had rooms with two stories. Top floor had two kingsize beds and ground floor had a small seating area, fridge, microwave coffee machine and a desk with busininess chair. Bathroom was ok and there was also a small balcony you could sit on. All in all a comfy and cosy room big enough for 3-4 people. The breakfast was complementary but was good enough, foiur types of cereals, waffle maker, brown/white toast, oats, some sweet pastries, bagles, fruit yoghurt and assorted juices. A 2-3 day breakfast would do just fine. We had a very good stay, the rooms were clean (but could get some better dusting) an the Wi-Fi at our room was quite crappy.

    « It is okay »

We stayed there for one night and had a loft. In the upper bedroom it was a bit hot. Once the sofa bed is deployed there is not so much space. Breakfast is exceptional. They even have a waffle maker. However be early as breakfast closes really at 9:00 am. Good for a short stay

    « 2nd Visit a little disappointing »

Our family and I had stayed here before and had really enjoyed the friendly staff and wonderful breakfast and the location worked for us too, so needing a one night stop over we opted for this hotel again. We arrived mid afternoon after a hot morning of trail riding needing to shower and freshen up before setting about our evening plans- the room we had was on the ground floor, it seemed newly decorated and the bathroom and decor was nice and fresh, however there was no shower curtain so no one could shower, there was no A/C in the room and since it was hot the room was very hot and stuffy , we opened the window only to find there was no screen so no protection from bugs and flies. I didnt even check to make sure the room had A/C which I guess I should have, I just figured in 2016 this would be standard with all rooms and the lack of shower curtain is just inexcusable- The breakfast was however Very Very good and the hotel over all offers great value for families with pool, ggames and free breakfast

« Functional place to stay near to adventure »

Hotel is friendly and has a variety of amenities (eg. pool, gym, mini golf). Nice location facing sea (right across road, nothing blocking view). Rooms are a little old fashioned but comfortable with separate seating area. Bathroom good, shower works very well. Plenty of off street parking. Next door pub does not allow children so you have to travel to find off site dining.

    « Stifling hot room »

We were not aware that MOST of the rooms do not have air conditioning. Of course, the room we had did not. We couldn't check in as we were there too early, but that was okay. We had an event to attend and did not return until about 9 pm. With no air conditioning the room was unbearably hot! It is an older hotel/motel but was clean. We had sliding doors onto a lanai but would not leave our sliding door open while sleeping as it would not be a safe idea. When we complained about no air conditioning we were told there was an electric fan in the closet so I hooked that up on the counter. It helped me but not my husband who was on the far side of the bed. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but only stayed the one night. We also learned that all Best Western Hotels are individually owned and this one has certainly not been upgraded. Plus the Breakfast Room was certainly too small for the large number of rooms Also, the bathroom had no fan but did have a window with a see thru curtain. I noticed that anyone on the floor above us and to the right could actually see into our bathroom if the light was on,

    « stop over »

pleasantly pleased with this hotel on the tour having read previous reviews. A large comfortable split level room with almost a great view. downside balcony with empty beer can and cigarette butts!!! very large portion at the restaurant next door. Disappointing breakfast......very tiny eating area so made up a bacon sandwich and walked along the waterfront.

« Great as long as it's not a heat wave. »

Overall a clean and comfortable stay, but no a/c. I passed a few pleasant weekends here during the summer, staying in a loft/kitchen suite as well as a traditional room. The stay I the loft was more convenient because of the kitchen and extra space to spread out. The traditional room had a fridge but no microwave. I did like how the bedroom was a separate room from the sitting area - this allowed my colleague and I to relax privately and watch different shows on tv. We had hoped to use the laundry, but there is just 1 washer and 1 dryer which were occupied with a line of others waiting. We enjoyed the location, close to everything and right on the water. Sunsets were lovely.

    4
    « lots of selection »

Some rooms have ac others do not. Get a room with ac if you are staying in the summer months and make sure it has a view of the ocean as it is an amazing view! Don't try to control the ac with the wall thermostat for hours and replace the batteries like we did, use the remote on the tv stand! Will be staying here again when we return to Campbell River. Their loft rooms are a nice change and pretty unique.

    4
« Nice quiet hotel, beautiful view »

The rooms were lovely and very close to the pool. There is no air coditioning but the hotel did provide fans for our use. We enjoyed the hot tub and pool. The breakfast room is small but the food is really good as usual. One of the things we love about staying at a Best Western is the complimentary full breakfast. We would stay again

    5
    « An enroute overnight »

A lovely overnight break in travel with an ocean view. The site was immaculate, staff very accommodating and welcoming. Although it was 'a full house' the breakfast was constantly refilled and the attendant very cheery. A very hot day 28C, which made the outdoor seating (for every room) most pleasant on a cool west coast evening. A very quiet location!!

    « A new adventure »

The hotel is located overlooking the river and is based on an Austrian chalet - the room was on 2 floors - with the bedroom being on the upper level with sloping roof. The only problem there is no a/c so was extremely hot. The view from the room was stunning. Breakfast could be a disaster if too many guests turn up at the same time.

    3
    « Across from ocean »

Cheap hotel across from beach. Kitchenette was so barebones it shouldn't be advertised as kitchenette. There was a small fridge and a 2 burner cooktop. No real pots to cook in. Kids liked the pingpong and mini put. Would skip Campbell river if I was planning my trip again. It's okay but it's really only for fishing.

    3
    « Conveniently located »

Next to the water. Nice beach walks. 5 mins from downtown and restaurants. Room was clean but a tad small. Breakfast is the usual but the lunch room is small for the morning rush. Get there early or you'll have to elbow your way in. Don't try to check in before 15h00 or they will turn you back. Good value for the price.

    4
« Loved the room but.. »

Loved the room-beds were in a loft. The view from the deck was great, looking at the ocean. the building and grounds were great. pool and small putting green and lawn. But no A/C. loft was stuffy at night. Had table fans but they didn't help to cool the room

    3
    « Ok hotel »

The hotel is ok, but somewhat outdated. The water in the swimmingpool could use a refresh as many children used it as bathroom. The complimentary breakfast is a bit simple as is the complete hotel. The staff tries to make the best of it, but thuis place needs investment.

    4
    « An Enjoyable Stay »

The hotel is easy to find, and the location is great. In addition to the many wonderful things that Campbell River has to offer, this hotel has an indoor pool, fitness centre, mini-golf, and a bbq area. The room was spacious and comfortable - we chose the loft and it was perfect for 4 adults.

    2
    « Livable if necessary »

The room was old, tired and stuffy. The thermostat on the wall served no function beyond decoration. It showed heat and cool but there was no vent or air conditioning - other than the glass door to the small balcony. There was no screen window so if you wanted fresh air you have to tolerate incoming mosquitoes. The carpet made me wonder about cleanliness but everything else seemed pretty clean. Hotel staff were friendly and nice. Free breakfast included eggs waffle and bacon. Better than donuts and coffee. I failed to see how this motel had any resemblance to an Austrian chalet as the name might suggest. Overall, I stayed a couple nights with no ill effect.

    4
    « Interesting Stary »

This was our second stay at this property and it got off to an "interesting start". On check in I found that our reservation had an error, instead of the suite we reserved we had instead been given a regular room. However the hotel was quick to fix the issue and although there were no suites available we were given an additional room at no cost which actually worked out better. The breakfast was decent and made for a good start for the day. As we were there for a graduation ceremony we did not have time to check out the pool and other facilities, maybe next time.

    5
    « Austrian Chalet »

By accident, when I booked our room at the Austrian Chalet, it was a loft. We loved it! The lower floor contained a sitting room and a bathroom, and the upper floor had the beds. The room layout worked well, and the hotel was very clean and quaint. The breakfast bar was also well done. Overall, a very fine place. They also have a putt-putt golf course in their courtyard, which is great for children.

    2
    « Family trip »

Great room, good location disgusting swimming pool. My wife, myself and our three young kids traveled up to Campbell River for a quick weekend trip we loved the room and went for a walk along the Waterfront cross the street which has beautiful views and has been upgraded significantly since I lived in Campbell River 20 years ago. However as with any hotel my kids we're excited to go to the pool. We went and the water was so murky that in 1 meter of water I could not see my toes at the bottom of the pool, then we found two hand size hair balls floating in the water and immediately left the pool clearly this part of the hotel has not received the care that the rooms and the breakfast area has. Good points are a ping pong table outside in the courtyard and that there was a wonderful view from The Breakfast area.

« Nice Hotel with beautiful views »

Spent 1 night here recently, good value, clean and enjoyable. Overall good stay, although we thought the the pool and hot tub area, was a little tired and was showing its age. As well, the breakfast they served was from 6-9 am, we thought it would be nice to make that until 10 am, so those who liked to relax and take their time in the morning, (like us who were on vacation) could take advantage of this. Nice grounds and view of the water.

    3
« Not so bad, not great »

Nice little kitchenette, bathroom was needing major updating. Bed was OK but no screens on the window or patio door and no air conditioning. Hard to keep cool on the hot days. It could be an amazing spot with the view that exists. Staff was courteous and helped with an additional fan. Breakfast provided was decent and the waffles had fun toppings. Last night I was there the cleaning crew neglected to clean my room and I stepped into a bag of rags in the bathroom. Random. Not a terrible place.

    4
« Across the road from the Georgia Channel »

This was an old but well maintained motel - beautiful containers of flowers adorned the outside balconys. We were on the second level with no elevator. The room was well equipped and clean. The staff was friendly. There was an included breakfast bar that included waffles, eggs, and meat along with the cereals, breads, juice, coffee, etc. Parking was free. It was located just a couple of kilometers from the center of the tourist area, Discovery Dock, ferry dock, and harbour. There is no air conditioning, so it was a bit warm, but the rooms had sliding doors to the balcony that we left open and there was a portable fan.

    « RT2016 »

Really excellent service. Let us leave our car when we went off island for no additional charge. Room clean and solid. Really pleased with our experience. Miniput! Also have to say Campbell River is a much nicer town than I imagined. Loved the waterside walk.

    5
« nice hotel, gorgeous view »

Very nice hotel, and the view of the strait from our room was spectacular. The staff went out of their way to make our stay great. We didn't play, but the mini-golf and ping-pong table are a great addition.

    4
    « Great Service »

Enjoyed just one night there but it was excellent. The personal touch was evident everywhere and one felt they really cared about their guests. Good pool and weight room..not modern but good and breakfast included in the price which was also very reasonable. Room clean too. l Recommend highly

    2
« Everything is so small »

Would I stay here again? I don't think so. We got a room with 2 double beds which gave no room to move around. There was barely enough room to put a suitcase down. The beds were comfortable, which is a very important thing. The bathroom is very small as well, no counter to put your essential bathroom products on. Be very aware that there is no air-conditioning. I did find a portable fan in the closet but that is not the same as cool air. We stayed in June and the weather was warm outside but not overly hot. I cannot imagine what the room would be like in the heat of the summer. The breakfast was included but there again you could not find a place to sit. Everything at this hotel is small. We eventually left and found a restaurant in town. We went to the vending machine to find pop and there was none. Apparently someone at the hotel thinks everyone should drink health drinks.

« A Great Family Place to Stay »

The hotel is extremely clean, wonderful large beds, sitting rooms, full breakfast (cook yourself options)There is a small putting game, table tennis, work out area and a pool. Restaurants are close bye

    3
    « Family orientated hotel »

This was a bit outside Campbell River along with other hotels so we thought we had missed it at first. It is a bit older and could do with a refurbishment but the room was clean. We had a ground floor room (which was good as there didn't appear to be a lift) but it just fronted the fun golf / play area so no view. As it was a weekend there seemed to be a few children staying who had great fun playing outside our room with a dog. To be fair they all disappeared about 9.00pm. Lovely beach area opposite the hotel for a stroll in the evening. Basic but fine for the night.

    3
« Older hotel needs upgrades »

This is an older hotel that needs many upgrades. The bathroom is very small with a tiny sink. You can hear noises from surrounding rooms. When the neighbor's shower was on, we had to turn up the TV volume. Even the room entry doors need replacing. Our room smelled old. It was better after airing it out for an hour. I could only give this hotel an average considering the aged rooms and the smell.

  • 1
    « Comfortable Stay »

A very comfortable stay, good clean large rooms, king or queen beds, full breakfast. Lots of other amenities, pool, restaurant close , fun for a family stay. A relaxing stay to finish off a great 4 day trip on the west coast.

    4
    « Island Trip »

Rooms were clean and tidy. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was included in the rate and was very adequate. A nice beach and walk area across the street from the hotel. We saw a cruise ship pass in front on it's way back from Alaska. Would definitely stay here again.

    5
    « Great stay »

The Best Western Austrian Chalet is a wonderful place to stay. There is not an elevator for those that cannot climb steps. The Loft Rooms are beautiful- but again two levels- bed on the second level with bathroom on first. Bed was very comfortable, more than enough room for two adults- loved the balcony and view. Room has a microwave, mini refrigerator and coffee maker. If you can climb steps this is the place for you or you should request a first floor room. Staff went out of their way to answer questions, and always greeted you with a hello and smile. Free wifi also. We had an issue with one of the two TV's and the maintenance man was there in 10 minutes or less to fix the problem. Breakfast was nice and had a different selection each morning- always clean and kept after. Grounds were impeccable and loved the view! Very convenient to everything. Love this Island!

    « Excellent stay »

We had a wonderful stay in this property of best western, room was clean, bed was comfortable, breakfast was good, staff was very friendly. lots of parking, I shall stay again when ever i am in Campbell river and I will recommend to all my friends.

« Average hotel room and service »

We received a clean room with a small balcony, but I didn't like having cars driving past the back door of the circular parking all night long. It was nice to be close to the water and beach across the street. This hotel was OK for us, but certainly not the exceptional rating I see others have given it. I also found the balcony totally disregarded with respect to cleanliness.

    5
    « Exceptional! »

Rooms are very large, well kept and clean. Bed was very comfortable. Staff were accommodating and went above and beyond. We stayed in room 319. We had a spectacular view of the ocean, tides and passing cruise lines. Breakfast was always hot and well stocked with lots of variety. Highly recommended!

    « family visit »

My parents got the lg suite above office, lots of cobwebs, spiders, dirty windows and patio furniture on balcony was not cleaned for them,3500.00 they paid for 2 weeks, for that price,it should have been spotless, other then that they enjoyed their visit

    3
« Okay for big group or family »

The hotel is aging but it was a typical old hotel. I was in a loft room which was awkward, the stairs going up were not the best, especially if you need to bring your luggage up them. Wifi was terrible as it was cutting in and out. The breakfast in the morning was basic. The room they use for the breakfast was similar to the room i stayed in, very narrow and awkward. They do have typical new furnishings that you would see in the modern BW hotels. There is a putting green outside for guest use. There are a couple pubs close by, otherwise you will need a car to goto downtown or the harbour

    3
« Stay on the First Floor »

The property was sorely missing an elevator. I stayed on the second floor and had to carry my heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs. Since I have back problems, this was an issue for me. Everything else was average.

    3
« Older hotel, but clean and comfortable »

The hotel is slightly older than we expected, but the room was clean and comfortable. Nice to have ocean view. The hotel facilities included pool, pingpong, and mini golf, could be a bit noisy in high season. Complimentary breakfast was better than the usual free breakfast at other places.

  • 4
    « Great for families »

We had to go to Campbell River last minute and this hotel was perfect for my family (6 of us). They have rooms that sleep six and they are big enough so you do not feel like you are on top of one another. They have a heated pool, hot tub, sauna, mini golf, ping pong, exercise room and a laundry room. There is lots to keep the kids entertained. The cook for the continental breakfast worked with us as our boys have allergies, they made sure that there was food for them in the morning. They tended to run out of towels often so maybe bring some towels if you are planning on being there for a while. All in all i would recommend this hotel to anyone with kids.

    2
    « Poor Quality »

We found the quality of food very poor. The front desk was so,so and unaware of our calls to them even though they were 3 feet from the phone. I had to walk over to ask them to turn on the TV and also the phone on a second trip. We will not stay there again.

    4
« Excellent look and location »

This hotel had a beautiful aesthetic, and the location right by the beach was great. The staff were very helpful as well! My only gripe was how hot the room was, despite the thermostat being off. Not sure what the issue was there.

    5
    « happy »

the staff was cheerful and helpful I enjoyed my stay my room was quiet. the view of the ocean was a bonus and the weather was not raining The motel is easy to find on the main highway. I wish that I had more time to use the pool and hot tub

    4
    « Nice place for a night »

We needed a relatively inexpensive place to stay for a night while driving up Vancouver island. This was a convenient and good place for what we needed. The split level chalet style room was cute. A full mini kitchen, nice balcony view of the ocean and clean room made for a great stay. And the included breakfast was very good, with a make your own waffle station!

    4
    « Last minute stay »

We phoned last minute and got the last room which was luckily a pet friendly room. The room was outdated, but very clean and comfortable. There was no air conditioning though, so we had to leave the window open. We were a bit leery of that being a ground floor, but it was fine. The complimentary breakfast had a good selection of items including French toast. The garden area was well maintained and we thought it was really neat to see the putting area and ping pong table. All in all, a good stay.

    5
« Great value, delicious breakfast »

The shoulder season rate for this property was very attractive. Room scrupulously clean, nice facilieis (pool and exercise room although did not use), and delicious breakfast (advertised as continental but much more than that).

    3
    « Hotel is ok »

The hotel was very clean and staff was friendly. However, the rooms are outdated, the floors are squeaky and the walls fairly thin. Not a bad stay, but wouldn't be my first choice for another stay in Campbell River.

    3
    « Whale watching trip »

We stayed for two nights while on a Whale Watching trip. The hotel was clean and comfortable but a little on the tired side, it could do with a make over from top to toe; poor decor in all areas need some attention. Having said that, it was very reasonable to stay and the breakfast was pretty good for a "freebie", some hot food as well as continental breakfasts. Have stayed in worse places for a lot more money. Would stay there again.

    3
    « A little tired »

Older hotel in need of a facelift. Beds up in loft, bathroom down below makes it difficult in the middle of the night. Location is good. Silverfish in bathtub. Not enough seating for breakfast. Grounds are nice and well kept.

    « Great Stay »

We had a great time at the hotel - they have a putting green , ping pong table, pool, and they are literally just feet from the beach. The views are amazing , the service was right on. It's an older hotel , but the grounds and the rooms are lovely, It';s close to everything you want to do in CR.

Great place to stay and great service by front desk. Loved the mini golf and the breakfast was great! A nice place to stay in CR I would highly recommend to anyone with a family or for business. great vies and good value

    3
    « Bad Luck »

Great value, a lot of noise: two soccer teams occupied the remaining rooms. No elevator, so one team just threw their bags down from level to level. Our family did not enjoy the swimming pool because the girls were rowdy and dangerous for our kids to be around. They also wore very inappropriate swimming suits, like thongs, for our 7 year old to see. Really gross.

    4
« Older hotel but very clean »

We have stayed at this property 3 times now and have always loved the location. They have a good pub nearby with pretty good food. The hotel is doing upgrades and some of the rooms are really nice now. Good breakfast with everything you could want. Great off season prices. Will be back!

    3
« Excellent location and value »

We stayed here during the Easter weekend and enjoyed the proximity to the beach and downtown, the easy access to the highway and other amenities and the pool/mini golf. The free continental breakfast and free wifi along with the great rate, really give this hotel an edge over similar establishments in the vicinity.

I just returned from a delightful stay at this hotel. Charlene at the front desk made me feel welcome and made sure I knew everything I needed to make my stay comfortable. The room had a wonderful ocean view and was very clean and updated. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Although I did not use the pool area, a quick peek into the building made me wish I had brought my bathing suit. I will be returning soon

« Great for Business and Pleasure »

The amazing natural view from the room of the Salish Sea (Georgia Straight) was both riveting and relaxing during both calm and stormy waters. Non-stop entertainment of birds floating by on Logs, seals popping up from hunting and I am sure lots of Salmon underwater! The business meeting rooms are ideal and the staff was extremely supportive setting up the event. Take advantage of the breakfast - it is a hearty meal to start your day of business or exploring!

    « Reasonably Priced »

Hotel is well situated on the outskirts of Campbell River. Five minutes to center of town or out of town. Room on second floor had a pleasant view of the sea and you could see the weather. Room was clean and the beds were comfortable; only the lighting in the bathroom was low. Breakfast was a typical Best Western one - modest, but adequate; everything from cereal to bacon and eggs. You could eat as much as you liked.

« No Pool Access and Crappy Room »

We got a small room around the back of the hotel that we could barely turn around in and had an odd smell. The sound-proofing was almost non-existant. The pool was closed when we arrived on the 10th even though they said it would be open on the 7th.

    « Mini vacation »

Hotel seemed old and dark although it was renovated some time ago. Had a tough time with the wifi as it was very sporadic and much of the time not there. When showering in morn water went freezing cold as if someone in next room turned on the hot water and mine went cold. This should not happen in a hotel or motel. Staff was very nice. Breakfast was just okay.

This is a very convenient modern hotel with a great view of the water. Clean and spacious. Mini golf if you are bored. Thoughtful staff. Warm cookies in the evening, apples all day and a breakfast of more than donuts. We paid an additional $20 to have our yellow lab with us. This was no problem and we were given a ground floor room. Enjoyed the view as well.

« Two nights in June of 2015 along the ocean. »

Quiet rooms, which were reasonably priced. The breakfast was great. A bike path along the ocean is directly across the highway from the hotel. Lots of parking adjacent to the doors of the rooms, and the staff were very helpful with travel information.

« Nice hotel, several buildings. No elevator. »

Just a one night stay here. They have a indoor pool and hot tub. Also free mini golf 4 holes which kept the kids busy for a bit. This seems to be the place for kids hockey team so there was kids playing in the hallway outside of our room. This is on a weekend. I can hear noise from the room next door. It is not a traditional hotel layout since our room is a chalet style room with the beds upstairs in the loft. The property is not on a level lot so you have to drive around the 3 buildings in a big loop. The backside of the property is on a hill. Close to water so you get to see water view. There is no elevator in the building so you have to walk up stairs with your luggage. Before warn if you have difficulty with stairs. Free hot breakfast in the morning. I would come back again.

    4
« no frills, great amenities »

I travel a lot for work and know what to expect from various hotels. I was not disappointed. Comfortable clean room, decent (smallish) gym, clean pool. Good breakfast. What more can you ask for? Oh, and a beautiful sea side location

    « Nice place! »

We stayed here as a stay-cation, we are Vancouver Island residents. As such, the location and price was exceptional, as was the quality. We found a great off-season rate on TripAdvisor and all these factors made our choice. We found the rooms nicely appointed and clean, the place is older but the rooms have been updated recently. Some very nice features like two comfortable Queen beds, interesting bathroom mirror lighting, great, sleek modern fridge and stove, new microwave, large, high-quality TV. Wifi was intermittent, and was different depending on where we were in the room. But we were there with a hockey team so usage may have been high with all the young people streaming. Now maybe I'm just being a jerk, like wanting to listen to podcasts in the bathroom while my wife streams netflix on the bed and my son watches cartoons. Call us 21st century bandwidth hogs! The free breakfast was very good, lots of choices and would accommodate special diets (bacon, sausage and eggs for carnivores, cereal, fruit, waffles, bagels and pastries for vegetarians). We are late risers, and we were eating 10 minutes before breakfast was over, but I did not get the hint that the staff were letting things run out. They were happy to continue to fill stuff for us to the bitter end! People with kids take note! We were so happy to find food that was kid-friendly that was also able to satisfy my gluten-free wife! A short walk or drive to many restaurants, a strip mall, and downtown Campbell River is a 5 min. drive. The pool and hot tub area was older and needing an updating, but an interesting hand-painted mural adorned the wall. Staff were exceptional! They were happy to accommodate extra requests. True West-Coast hospitality. Campbell River is a forgotten area of the Vancouver Island Tourism market, which is unfortunate. It is surrounded by great parks like Elk Falls and amazing beaches! The off-season rate was very attractive, location was across the highway from the ocean made for beautiful view. The layout is motel-style, with rooms opening to the outside, parking lot (no interior corridors). All told, I highly recommend this place!

    « Great Place!! »

We have stayed here numerous times. Not only is the location and the views amazing but the hotel itself is fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and always smiling. The rooms are comfortable , well decorated and very clean. The complimentary breakfast isn't just warm coffee and a stale muffin but they offer freshly scrambled eggs, sausage , waffles, fresh fruit just to name a few items. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who needs a place to stay for business or pleasure!

    « Pleasantly surprised. »

We stayed in a family unit over Christmas. Our unit appeared to have new flooring and was spotless. The front desk were friendly and helpful. The breakfast room has been expanded and has a wide range of breakfast foods. The coffee was excellent. The only thing that was not great was the internet.-Like last time it faded in and out all evening. Reasonable price. The improvements were noticed and appreciated.

« Unique, warm, pleasant and relaxed stay!!! »

Employees of the hotel are the utmost helpful and friendful, we felt like being in our best friend's accomodation. The registration room is highly warm. When we arrived, after a windy and snow ride, we get in the registration room and we felt like being in a extremely hospitable place with hot coffee and comfortable living room. The kids were extremely excited with the room which was furnished with warmed furniture like being in a small warm house, especially with the small wooden attic. Moreover there are all the things to prepare a warm dinner. Unique, pleasant and relaxed stay!!!

« Such good front desk staff »

Front desk staff phone the room to make sure all is satisfactory. If extending your stay, they will work with other reservations to accommodate. Having a tv in the loft as well as the main room was a bonus. Attentive breakfast room staff. Spider cob web season so didn't take advantage of the balcony as much as I could have. Easy access to the seawalk with a pedestrian crosswalk light. Thanks for the stay.

    « decent... priced right »

quick stopover for business... nice clean room, comfortable bed, modern TV with HD channels. Shear curtains in a ground floor room? very strange... the room lacked any privacy from the courtyard area... not to mention exterior lights shining in at night... I've stayed here multiple times including in other ground floor rooms and don't remember having this issue

« Great Value in a Character Ocean Property »

The savings was worth the 40 minute drive from Courtenay. Nice pool, adequate exercise room, and a few mini golf holes. Lot's of lights and enough space to properly unpack and spread out. Good food at Freddie's next door!

« Website photos are extremly misleading »

Room was grimy and smelly, sheets were stained, Ended up sleeping in our clothes and had to put towels on the couch before we sat down. The staff was ok they gave us new sheets for the bed to put on ourselves, but they were stained as well. It was the worst hotel experience I have had. After seeing the pictures on the website I was looking forward to a cozy ocean view loft suite we booked, if it wasn't so stormy I think we would have slept in the truck!!

    « Great Value »

This Hotel is in a great location, with beautiful views of the ocean.Right across the street is the Seawalk which runs for approx. 6 km's - great for an afternoon stroll, enjoying the scenery (magnificent coastal mountains in the distance). The hotel is a bit old but great value for what they charge. I would recommend this hotel.

« Decent for the price »

We stayed one night here and, for the price of $132 for a family room with breakfast it was good value, hence the rating. The room itself was a duplex with bedrooms upstairs. The road is pretty busy so can be noisy, and the room is a little tired, but it was very good value.

    « A-plus customer service »

The hotel itself isn't much to rave about. We needed one night here before going on to better accommodations. The water view room balcony offered a sliver of a water view -- enough to see some seals swimming around. What was outstanding: the customer service. I had to make a vital phone call in the morning and when I finally got transferred from the business center phone to a U.S. agent, the line kept breaking up so I could hear about 60% of what the other person was saying. Thanks to the patience and thoughtfulness of Charlene, I was able to make that call -- by her having the call transferred to my room. She saved the morning (and the day) for me. She's an asset for this hotel. Also, the check-in person the night before was funny and professional.

    « Perfect for families! »

Took the suit above the lobby (225 i believe) and it was absolutely perfect for our large gathering. Wish it had one more shower, but the heated pool made up for it! Staff was beyond helpful and friendly. Older lodge, but clean. Free mini golf, ping pong table and Continental breakfast. Hot Eggs, breads, yogurt, cereal, waffels and french toast! The traffic was REALLY loud though, so if you are a light sleeper, I recommend something towards the back. Wish I had remembered to take a picture! Definitly recommend checking out the Quinsam fisheries!!! * The Canadian Griswalds on Vacation

Great location, lovely views over water, and close to all amenities.. Room was 2-level, very large, comfortable and clean - suitable for a family. Breakfast was good, but not outstanding. Very friendly and helpful staff.

« It was good for an overnight stay. »

Located on the highway when heading north into the town. The exterior is pretty tired and dated. Stayed for one night after a day of driving. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was on the small side and seemed over furnished for its size but it was comfortable and clean. The addition of a little balcony on the ground floor with seating did improve the space aspect. The bathroom was also small but had everything required. Minimal vanity space. Fridge, microwave and coffee in room. We slept well and that is the major test for us. Breakfast was absolutely fine, a small hot choice, cereals, bakery items, juices, toast coffee, fruit, waffles, yogurt etc. No need to leave hungry.

« Small, nice little hotel, »

Stayed there for 2 one night stays in late august. Nice little hotel, first time room was on ground floor and had a sitting area in the main entrance, bathroom was off that and bedroom was in the back. Glad it wasn't hot as there was no AC in the room. Breakfast was excellent. Second time was on second floor, more traditional room, again no AC in the room, but it wasn't hot so it didn't matter. Did not like the window from the hallway looking into the bathroom, frosted glass or not. That needs to be fixed.. Otherwise, room was fine.
