    « Clean; good service »

The hotel does need re decoration and the carpets certainly do need changing; but apart from that everything was fine. The room was clean; the service was excellent; all staff pleasant. The bar prices between 12 noon and 7pm were excellent

    « Friendly staff »

The best things about the hotel are the friendly efficent staff and the cleanliness of the public areas and our bedroom. The hotel needs a makeover, stained ceiling in the lounge/bar, stained dirty carpets bring down the hotel. Evening meals are not available. Breakfast was acceptable except for scrambled eggs which were cooked in the microwave. Vegetarian option was not an option.

« Great stay at the Monty »

Room was spotless, quite spacious and recently decorated to quite a good standard. Bit of a hike to the town center though, especially on way home as it's mostly uphill. I found the staff very friendly polite and helpful. Breakfast tasty, would definitely go back.

    « weekend brake »

clean, tidy, and comfortable beds, helpful staff, good location, a good place to to stay for a weekend brake for couples and family its short walk to the town centre and the shops, the beach, and the park.

« Best Western Montague Bournemouth »

Stayed here for the 1 night,Was right opposite The Durley Dean Hotel .where i was attending a party,so ideal spot for me .It is also in an ideal spot .to shops and entertainment in Bournemouth. And if you dont drive The Yellow Buses stop at The Savoy Hotel which is 5 mins away from Best Western ,Lovely Hotel Clean ,lift to all floors ,friendly and polite staff

    « Expect More »

Why is it that when, as today, I return home from a British seaside hotel I say to myself that I expected more? More for the money really, especially when compared with hotels overseas. There was nothing bad about the Montague, except the creaking floorboards, late last night and early this morning. But I agree with so many of the comments on this site, the staff were pleasant and more than adequately helpful, but the room was a bit small, the storage space OK for a couple of nights, but I really would not have wanted to cope for a week's seaside holiday. It was strange that we could not get the room cool enough at the end of October, to sleep well. One specific piece of advice: my car's satnav would not deliver me to the address given in Durley Road South, but the post code took me very accurately to the back of the hotel. The problem was that it was dark and we could not see the hotel sign 20 ft up the wall of the building and completely unlit. If you plan to use a satnav and arrive after dark, take a torch with a powerful beam!

« Well located, little bit tired »

The location is excellent, and staff were friendly and helpful. It's a little tired inside though, and could do with a refurbishment. It's certainly not the worst hotel in Bournemouth though, and worth considering.

    « Last Minute Booking »

We enjoyed our stay very much in a good sized, very clean room. The food was excellent. Our only complaint was that the room was so hot that even with the radiators off we had to sleep with the windows open which as we were near the front could have been noisy from traffic.

    « Excellent Staff »

Stayed at the Montague for 1 night. Reception manager Sito, gave exceptionally good customer service and other staff members too. Rooms fair for the price. Hood value & enjoyable stay :) Able to arrange a late checkout and lobby bar has comfortable seats and good coffee.

« good spot close to restaurants and beach »

good breakfasts served with a smile - the staff are all good but the waitresses at breakfast were very good. rooms are small but adequate - all in all - a good place to stay whilst doing business in the area

    « Concert »

Very enjoyable stay and friendly welcome, just a 5-10 minutes walk to the BIC. Room was lovely and spacious and bed very comfortable. Had a lovely breakfast in the morning with a good selection. Very limited on parking space though in the car park.

« Musical rooms minus the music »

I booked a family room for a weekend with my wife and twenty something daughter. We booked in around 14:00 and was given room 19 which had a double and sofa bed. After checking the room we found that the toilet would not flush and did not enough pillows and towels for 3 people. We reported this on the way out for a walk. The receptionist said that the toilet was probably just slow to fill, but she would put a call in for a plumber. We arrived back in the room at around 19:30. The pillows and towels were on the bed but the toilet would still not flush. The receptionist said she would put in another call to the plumber. She rang at 20:30 to say that the plumber was on his way and would arrive within an hour. She gave us the key to room 18 to use the toilet. At 22:00 I went to the reception and was told that the plumber was on his way. I said that this was not good enough. After being told that a manager was not available and no other family rooms were available I said that we should be given another room. So in the end my daughter was told to keep room 18 and my wife and I were given the key to room 21. Room 21 has a narrow corridor leading in to the room. The entrance to the bathroom is in the corridor. When I had a shower, although I am of a slim build I had to dry myself off in the corridor as the sink didn't leave a lot of space. On top of that the shower head sprayed water everywhere but not over me. The bed was comfortable but the floorboards creaked badly, which to be fair we could live with. Next morning at breakfast which was reasonable, the manager asked if we could see him when we had finished. He was very apologetic about the problems we had had. He then offered us room 9 which was a family room. We were happy with this room which had a sofa bed and 2 singles pushed together. However we later found the shower was terrible. It was a mixer tap shower; to get the temperature correct was almost impossible. After turning the hot and cold water on I pulled the knob to turn on the shower, standing in the bath I scolded my feet. I then tried turning the cold water up which then turned water cold. Playing with the settings I finally managed to get the water warm enough for a shower. Unfortunately the shower head sprayed the wall and would not spay straight ahead, again it had a spray that went everywhere but over me. This is my second visit to this hotel the first visit was very good. However I don't think I will be back after the weekend we have just had.

« Nice staff, good location. Just pick the right room »

I stayed here for a number of weeks so managed to stay in various different rooms. Some were nice and big, some were tiny. No matter which room you had there was always something not quite right. If it was a nice big room the shower didn't work properly. If it did the floor boards creaked making your room and the one above very noisy. Even without the heating on the rooms were very hot and some were over the kitchens with heat from below and food smells from the fan To be fair it is a nice place to stay and the staff were excellent and friendly. The location is a short walk to the beach and the shops and the breakfast (salmon and scrambled egg) was nice too. It just needs a bit of TLC to make all the rooms more similar.

    « All good »

this Best western is not the newest and best but its good vallue for money the staff is among the best i've ever experienced and they went otu their way to make sure that i had everything i need and helped me in any way possible. i would recomend staying there

    « Very poor »

Pro Staff were very friendly. Cons Parking spaces are limited. Beds atrociously uncomfortable. Bathroom smelt of dirty drains. The shower was either hotter than the sun or freezing cold, with the smallest screen that means you get more water on the floor than on yourself . Shaving proved difficult as the bathroom mirror was on the wall behind the basin. Room lighting was very poor. This hotel need a face lift.

    « hhmmmm »

I arrived after a 3 hour drive on a really hot day, found it difficult to find a parking space. Reception was good assisted me with my luggage to the room. Now this is where it's starts to fall apart. I was tired and didn't really want to go out for dinner so looked at the room service menu - ok Chicken Curry I picked up the phone - it didn't work. So off to reception to book my food. The room was very humid opened the window and put on the electric fan supplied. Food arrived and it was very pleasant along with the large G&T. Breakfast - where do I start - I was welcomed by a young man who took my room number and i sat down, not even looked at the menu asn I was asked what would you like from breakfast - so I had to say can I have a little time please?? I pondered the menu and decided on a breakfast muffin with poaches egg & bacon so on the way to get my cereal I ordered my food with the young man. I proceeded to pour my fruit juice and pick my cereal and returned to my table, just started the cereal and my cooked breakfast arrived not really acceptable. Also there was a bus of foreign tourists also at the hotel and they really did not get the service from the staff I really felt quite sorry for the service they received. Needless to say there has been a review on the hotel website and hopefully my points have been addressed. Would I stay again - I may do if in the area

« Friendly, clean and great value for money »

Twelve golfers have just stayed for a week and greatly appreciated the value, cleanliness, location and particularly the staff attitude. They would always go the extra mile.Yes the floorboards are a bit creaky but that should not put potential customers off

    « Smallest room ever....... »

I used my Best Western points, earned from many business stays, for a couple of nights tied in with a day trip to Guernsey from Poole. Night 1 was booked at the Montague in Bournemouth. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, bar service excellent but the room, No 26, was definitely the smallest ever double room I have seen in over 40 years of business and leasure hotel stays. I estimate that the room size was around 8 by 9 feet, not much room with a standard double bed added in. The bathroom was equally claustrophobic. I often feel that points stays earn the least advantageous rooms. If you are booking at this hotel avoid Rm 26!

    « Nice stay »

The hotel is quite old and dated but the staff were really friendly and helpful and the rooms although not big in bathroom space were all very clean and did the job, only issue I had was with the pillows were quite uncomfortable. The evening menu was limited but I had the gammon steak and the chicken burger and the portions were big and the food was actually very nice. The breakfast again was not a big range but you could have both cooked and continental and was of a good standard. The hotel is close to both the beach and the city centre and with free parking that us a bonus. Overall a very pleasant stay.

« Excellent Value for Money and slap bang in the middle of Bournemouth »

I have read several reviews about the hotel - all whilst staying here and not at the time of booking. This was mainly in-part due to the price it was available at, and there was plenty of images to scan quickly over. Our room was spacious and comfortable for me and my partner with a more than ample bathroom. Staff were always friendly and curious at all times. We stayed for 3 nights mid-week in the run up to August Bank holiday, and it was fully booked every night. However it was very peaceful through-out the night. There is a serious shortage of parking spaces even though there is only 31 rooms. The floorboards in our room creaked like a resident of this period would. The only downside really and we stayed in no.7 - All in all for just over £250 including breakfast, if you want total luxury then you shouldn't be even contemplating booking a hotel in such a price range!

    « Did the job »

My husband and I stayed here a few weeks ago for one night with our 3 year old. We were lucky to get a car parking space but I can see this is probably a problem for a lot of guests. We had a Best Western gift card to use from points accumulated when my husband stays away for work. We did make this clear at the time of booking however there seemed to be a break down in communication somewhere along the line as the member of staff that checked us was a bit bemused when the voucher was handed over. Anyway, it was soon a sorted and we were able to check into our ground floor family room. For one night the room was ample enough. The sofa bed had been made into a bed for our little girl Which she thought was great. Had we of stayed longer than one night then we probably would of found it abit tight. Ok it was warm day we checked in but this was by far the hottest hotel room we have ever stayed in. If we were to stay here again we would ask for a fan! The hotel is only a 10min walk from Bournemouth pier, so ideal for us to go and see the fireworks! For a short stay this hotel is perfectly ample, although I don't think I would stay here for longer than a few days.

    « Very good »

Stayed here just for one night however the room was very good extra large size bed my partner is over 6ft and we had loads of room in the bed really comfortable to hotel was very quiet great nights sleep paid an extra £2.50 each for breakfast the next morning and the breakfast was well worth every penny really nice food very impressed with the whole plaice definitely recommend staying here it was about 15 minute walk into Bournemouth but it was ideal little bit Hiley so if your elderly and struggle with walk-in you might want to get a cab in to the town centre but all in all great hotel free parking as well. We run out of milk in her room to ask a guy on reception if you could have a few more milk jiggers and he actually bosses 2 little jugs of milk how good was that very helpful little guy couldn't do enough for us excellent place definitely go and stay again

    « Bad first impression »

It was a shame when we turned up that the lady at the reception desk was so rude. When we returned later that day the man was very nice. The decor is very dated even the light switch we had to hold for 10 seconds to turn off.. I couldn't spend any longer than a night there.. however, considering it had no vacancies we had a very quiet night sleep, no disturbances. I've given it a generous 3 rating as the building it tired and needs updating and some money invested in it.

« Just the one night »

Business visit to Bournemouth. Stayed just one night at great rate of £54. Fine for me. Room was a bit hot but better once window open and aired. Nice breakfast. Everything clean and tidy. 6-10 minute walk to beach. Not sure I would choose as my base for a longer break but fine for a couple of nights.

« If you're staying for just 1 night, you may be able to tolerate everything that is wrong with the place. Just about. »

Room was pretty standard, sofa bed as expected was highly uncomfortable. Clean room, couldn't find much wrong with the room other than IT FELT LIKE A GOD DAMN SAUNA. I put my freaking makeup on and it rolled straaaaaight off due to the heat of the room, and also prevented me from sleeping because damn, it felt like i was melting. A fan was provided however this didn't prove to helpful at all. Also, the shower was broken, pointed to the wall and would flick between absolutely boiling scalding water to cold water every few minutes despite our efforts trying to fix it. Do not eat at this place. Got up extra early for breakfast, ordered and had our plates in front of us within 10 minutes. All meals did not look very appetising at all, it was sloppy and the meat, egg and mushrooms all had a weird taste to them. We were in room 9, warning to anyone reading this thats booked or thinking of booked. We were ground floor, with a giant fan right outside the room window. Staff however were absolutely amazing, all lovely and well mannered and just, good workers.

    « Tired decor »

As other reviewers have mentioned, found the room I was allocated to be small but adequate, the bathroom was tiny though. We were unable to park at the hotel as the car park was full (surprised by this as there was obviously a coach party presumably occupying several rooms so would expect less demand for parking) so had to park in the pay and display across the road - disappointed by this as this hotel was chosen due to claim of "ample" free parking. Room and bed was comfortable and slept well until the occupants of the room above started moving around at 6am - floor boards creaked terribly and every footstep could be heard! Overall ok but wouldn't stay here again.

    « A little bit tired »

First impressions count and the entrance to the hotel look spittle worn and grubby. However the welcome was good although not very comprehensive. The room was on the ground floor and although a little small served my needs well. Within the room again things looked a little tired but the saving grace was that the bed was comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was adequate and although not a massive choice there was enough options for most. The relatively small was a bit of an issue but I did manage to find a space every time I returned. On the whole I would say it was adequate for a short stay and offers reasonable value for money.

    « Faultless »

Stayed here for one night in August 2016 in room 11, which is a twin room, and I have. to say that I couldn't find anything to find fault with, in short the room is moderntt, clean, freshly decorated with comfortable beds and a flat screen TV. Breakfast is good with a choice of fresh fruit, cereal, pastries plus a choice of cooked food, sadly no grapefruit segments. Evening meals are from the bar menu which is not elaborate but reasonable. Will stay again.

« Ideal location for centre of Bournemouth »

I came to this hotel with a group of lads on a stag do. I am 64 I judge the hotel on my usual requirements. My room was clean and tidy having two small single beds. It included a bath with a hand held shower, toilet and sink. I personally found the shower not very good at all but the bath was my preference so with plenty of hot water I found this adequate. The bed wasn't that big for me, a little bit narrow but it was ok for the two nights I was stopping. TV worked ok and the fan was useful as it seemed very hot on this 3rd floor room. Lifts worked ok although I used the stairs most times. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the stay. The bar was stocked well which I used before going out. The breakfast was very good. I had porridge which they cooked on my request and the cooked breakfast was good too. The room was clean and tidy. If you are coming to this hotel I think you get what you pay for. A reasonable hotel for a reasonable price. It's clean and tidy, in a good position but like a lot of hotels in Bournemouth it is old, has character and provides a bed for the nights you need. I enjoyed my stay and would return again for a similar short stay holiday, maybe a week if needed. Parking is provided too.

    « Never again! »

Hard bed..shower difficult to get right temperature....worst bit was being woken up by screeching arguing couple from the property next door...when talking to reception the response was "you should have been here Saturday!" Wrong on so many levels...breakfast not bad...bit b and b like....plastic containers! Will not return......

    « Basic budget hotel »

This hotel was clean, friendly and helpful. It is a basic budget hotel, useful for a overnights stay, location to Bournemouth beach is approx 5 mins by car. The rooms are warm, no air con, fans available at reception. No flannels provided, available at reception, when asked there were none left. I paid £198 for 2 twins and a family room, this is a good price so therefore I did not expect too much from this little place. I was woken by floorboard noise from the next room, I always take a fan to all hotels as I prefer the noise to help me sleep. Overall it simply is a basic budget friendly little hotel, don't expect too much.

    « Acceptable »

Possitive: location, room size, clean. Negative: room not ready when I did my check in and the staff were not very friendly. Bournemouth as a place is really nice. I had luck to go in a really sunny days and the experience in this city was amazing. Maybe I will come back very soon.

« Holiday no, stop over ok. »

Hotel rooms ok but very thin walls, tv on wall so is bed so you can listen to others choice of program. Shower nice size, shame about the lack of water pressure. Restaurant and food ok but lack of staff when very busy means tables not cleared and clients left waiting. Would use as stop over but not for longer. 3 star but for price would expect more service.

    « Weekend Break »

A lovely small hotel with a very personal/family feel. Very comfortable room and enjoyable breakfast made for a perfect start to the day. Staff incredibly helpful, special mention to Yvonne for rescuing my booking from my mistakes.

« Reasonable hotel for a stopover in Bournemouth »

We stayed at the Montague Hotel on a Saturday night as part of a road-trip along the south-coast. Having found the hotel, noting the entrance is just off a roundabout, we were fortunate to find the last parking space in the small but free car park. Our first impressions were of an older hotel but check-in was efficient and we made our way up to the first floor. Our room was satisfactory although somewhat on the small size. There was a good sized bed and a decent sized bathroom which boasted a good hot shower as well as a bath-tub. The tea & coffee making facilities were basic and there was no bottled water or in-room fridge. The free wi-fi signal proved to be strong & reliable, which is important to me, so all-in-all we were OK for our one-night stay. We didn't use the hotel bar as we went into the centre of Bournemouth which was about a 15-minute walk away, with some up-hill to negotiate on the way back. No problem for us but older guests might need to factor in a taxi perhaps. Breakfast the following morning was a buffet of good quality and choice so we were well set up for the day ahead on Brownsea Island! In summary, the Montague Hotel provided a decent 3-star stay without anything special or noteworthy. They are able to charge a fairly high price which they can undoubtedly get away with on a summer Saturday at the end of June but I doubt that would be the case later in the year. We'd probably stay somewhere else next time to be honest, be that in or out of season, but if you can get a good price it would be fine for a short-stay.

Stayed here for two nights recently. The hotel is handy for the beaches as well as the Bournemouth International Centre. The room we had was functional with tea/coffee making facilities. The man we dealt with in reception was cheerful, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with a wide variety of food available. There is private parking available on site.

    « A really great budget hotel! »

Great staff. Nice room that was spotlessly clean. Did not eat in the restaurant for dinner. However the breakfast was really nice with a good choice. Convenient for town centre. Thoroughly recommended.

    « Fantastic Hotel »

If you are looking for a hotel in Bournemouth then look no further. The most excellent welcome and service I have ever received any where. Food and drink were also good quality and very reasonably priced. The room was very clean and comfortable and well equipped . Overall a great experience I am delighted to share. My thanks to SIto for going the extra mile and giving me the service I like to give my customers. The young lady behind the bar was also excellent (sorry didn't get her name) .

    « Convenient, very nice »

Booked this place only a month or so ago as we were down for a weekend. Price was reasonable, rooms were very clean and comfortable. breakfast was very nice, i was pleasantly surprised. Its in a convenient location only 10 mins stroll from the centre and maybe quicker to the sea. Car parking avaiable and the staff were very helpful. Id stay here again.

« Quiet and Peaceful Hotel with Excellent customer service »

This is only a small hotel, it is in easy walking distance of the town and BIC, also the sea front. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the hotel was busy but not noisy like some. Breakfasts were excellent but the lack of evening meals at weekends might annoy some, though there are plenty of places in Town. The building being old has a problem with squeaky floors. We enjoyed a fabulous weekend as Bournemouth had a 2 week Food and Drink fair which we spent a lot of time at, also a Rock Quior show at the BIC was fabulous with 1200 voices.

    « Hotel and accommodation »

Our room was extremely small, however we only stayed one night, the room was spotlessly clean, the bathroom very small and it was Like entering a sauna the bed was comfortable, had the room been a Ittle larger we would probably have stayed for longer, we ate Platinum Card Holders but we're not offered an upgrade. The food we had in the evening was extremely poor, but the breakfast was very good.

« One night stop over »

Would recommend for a one night if catching an early ferry. Food was reasonable but restaurant not suitable for a weeks stay. Cannot comment on breakfast has never had any. There was nobody on the reception area when we left in the morning so had to let our selves out. Fairly close to main road so some traffic noise

« A good base for a short stay and the sea »

A superbly located hotel, near the town centre and seafront, but just far enough away from the noise in the early hours. A short walk into town for great facilities food, drink and entertainment. A nice quiet hotel with lovely staff, a good breakfast, plenty of parking and good storage in room. It isn't perfect, but if it was it would have cost a lot more. A nice place for a short / medium stay

    « Great value »

Recently visited Bournemouth and stayed one night here. At the reception they greeted us, even offered a jug of water with ice what was a nice gesture. The rooms was standard, nice and clean. Really good value for good price. Highly recommend

    « Bank holiday break »

Check in was very easy and quick. We had a double room with a lovely big bed that was really comfortable. There were facilities for hot drinks in the room and a hairdrier but I was glad I took my own as there wasn't a styling nozzle on the hotel one. The room was clean but a little worn and the floorboards creaked quite badly. However it didn't really bother us. The bathroom was very tiny, with just a shower, sink and toilet squeezed into a very small space. The actual shower was adequate but the cubicle very small. The breakfast was lovely and lots to choose from. Cereal, toast, fruit, full cooked breakfast ....anything you wanted really. The poached egg with smoked salmon on a muffin was delicious. The reception staff were really friendly and helpful. There is an outside area to sit and have a drink but it was very neglected and the furniture could do with tidying up, as could the garden area. The hotel was 5 mins walk from the beach and the town so an ideal location. All in all it was a very pleasant stay and I would definitely stay there again.

« Great stay! Gutted had to leave... »

Booking the hotel directly was quick, easy and clear, check in was quick and the staff in general were so welcoming and friendly. The hotel itself has what it says on the tin, good wifi in which I could stream the footy on my tablet as the missus didn't want to go to pub and watch footie all afternoon on a very busy weekend! Room was spacious and clean, maybe a bit warm for our liking but that was sorted with a fan straight away as we highlited the issue. Also the water taps in bathtub/ shower could do with a check as its either too hot or too cold and it took a while to get the right temperature, but then again we were not in any hurry so it wasn't really an issue however for someone that is trying to get ready quickly for an event or anything this could be annoying, so I'm not complaining but just giving the heads up!! The location was great, the cliffs are just a block away and then u are on the seafront and can get to the centre quite easily. Breakfast was great, the girl waitressing was so helpful as arrived literally 5 mins before closing and sorted me out with food to take to my room, and really on the second morning we went to the restaurant and the buffet options are all u need to keep you going! the night staff guy Cliffand the other man that was there were very helpful. Special thanks to Karol, Sito and Cliff for their hospitality! I recommend this hotel.

    « I wouldn't stay again »

Whilst not totally horrific this hotel has a lot to improve - and age isn't an excuse! Good points: - the lady who checked me in was lovely and informative and offered to give me local directions. She was a saving grace in this review being average and not poor. - good food portions and nicely presented. - Comfy half of bed; but see further bed comments. - location close to beach (5min walk). - comfy bar chairs Need to improve: - bathroom needs to be refurbished, out dated and mould in areas. Lack lustre shower where hot was cold and cold was hot on the dial! - need black out curtains or blinds. Really thin light curtains meant I woke at 5.30am due to light. - food portions good but tasted very microwaved I really didn't enjoy it at all. - bar woman was not good, she wasn't rude but she just wasn't there half the time and when she was she didn't seem to have a clue what was going on! She didn't know what a tab was, and another guest asked about air con and she said "I don't know if we have it". - I have said it before and I'm sure I'll be forced to say it again - pushing two single beds together doesn't make a double bed!! You fall down the gap and it's uncomfortable. - thin pillows - tea making facilities poor - not enough car parking for all guests - notices sellotape to door and walls - this looks SO cheap please rethink this! - can't use a card at the bar - outside areas that can be seen from Windows should be tidy.

« Amazing stay at this perfectly located hotel »

We stayed at this hotel May 20th - May 23rd 2016 .. the hotel is very well kept and clean, the rooms are adequate in size with an en-suite shower room, the staff are all very helpful, the bar is open 24 hours a day which was nice, the breakfast is lovely and plenty of it. It's location is perfect! you can either very easily cross the road and walk literally 200 yards to the beach or turn right out of the hotel, drop down the hill and turn left through a car park and your on the beach, the one through the car park has a Harvester .. go try it it's good food and not crazily priced and on the beach front so if the sun is out it is beautiful. The town centre is a 10 minute walk away. Also please make sure you read the black book in the room, it tells you that there are fans available on reception and lots of other things you would think of. ask for a street map on reception as without this we would have got lost as we had not been to Bournemouth before. Would we go back to this hotel? YES! without a doubt. Give it a try you will not be disappointed

    « Fantastic service »

    « Great value »

Under rated hotel with great value for a weekend away. Woould also consider a longer stay. Rooms are not 100% with new decor but very clean and comfortable. Staff were very well mannerdd and efficient. No issues at all with this stay.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed here overnight bank holiday weekend. Family room £72 including breakfast which is great value. Room was lovely. Spacious with a good sized bathroom. Flat screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Hotel is in a good location. 10 minute walk to town centre/beach front. Small car park situated at the back of the hotel, free of charge, although limited spaces. Hotel has a small bar. Breakfast was a choice of cereals, pastries, yoghurts etc then a choice of cooked breakfast or smoked salmon and muffins. Food was lovely. Only complaint is the toaster! Standard two slice toaster, which isn't great at breakfast time when everyone trying to do toast! Apart from that, great stay, great hotel and would return again!!

« Not one of the Best !!!! »

As a member of Best Western I stayed at their Montague Hotel in Bournemouth for the first time in May. It was not up to the standard of other Best Westerns I have recently stayed in. The bedroom was small, the bed was low and extremely soft and the bathroom was poor. I am not the largest man but I struggled to fit into the shower and once in it was not a refreshing experience . I hope room 21 is not one of their best. After not sleeping well I hoped that breakfast would be an improvement but again I was not impressed. The fruit choice was limited to apricot and a two slice toaster could not service the 14 people eating breakfast. In the past I have found Best Western provide good value and a reasonable service. This hotel at £85 a night did neither. Best Western need to improve in this hotel as it does nothing to enhance their reputation and my cause members like myself to look elsewhere. The location of this hotel is really good for exploring the local area but the facilities and quality of service provided need to improve.

« Average hotel near Bournemouth sea front »

Basic and average hotel near Bournemouth sea front. Décor quite tired but it was clean. Breakfast was reasonably nice & had a good selection. It was very noisy & all you could hear was squeaky floorboards. Staff service was ok. Scottish barman on the Sunday evening was very welcoming & pleasant. Hotel parking very limited.

« Good value and comfortable stay »

Fully recommend this hotel. Rooms comfortable and showers worked beautifully. Some décor problems but not enough to spoil the stay. Breakfast very good. Staff were very helpful. Easy walk to Bournemouth town centre and beach.

« Lovely helpful staff, nice hotel, great location »

We stayed here for two nights from Friday to Sunday for a family wedding nearby and it was perfect for what we needed. The staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble. We had bed and breakfast, which we had breakfast in the room both mornings, it was cooked spot on for us on both occasions. You can come and go as you please 24 hours a day. Someone is always around to help should you need anything. We requested a fan (which is available to request amongst a lot of other things such as extra pillows, towels, teas, coffees, sugar, toiletries and pretty much anything you may need!) as the room was a little too warm to what we like, and that was without the radiators on (which is good to know that in the winter it's perfect too). The only thing that was a slight bad thing was the sofa bed, it seemed to lean downwards but it's only a sofa bed, not nothing major! Still somewhere to sleep! Would definitely recommend, and would definitely stay again! Staff are very friendly and welcoming and so you feel at home!

« Best Western Montague Hotel, Bournemouth »

A comfortable hotel, well situated and easily accessible with friendly staff. The hotel needs to provide water and glasses in the bedrooms in addtion to the coffee and tea making facilities which they do provide. The breakfast staff tend to hurry guests such that our cooked breakfasts arrived before we had had chance to finish our cereals - they need to be just a little less enthusiastic!

    « Bournemouth Winter Break »

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in January 2016. The hotel was pleasant and centrally located for the beach and town centre. The room was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed for a short stay. Breakfast was cooked to order and very good although the buffet with cereal and fruit was slow to be replenished until requested. This did not detract from the hotel service. The bar happy hour in the evening was a nice addition as you can have a couple of reasonably priced drinks before dining in the hotel our going out. We would definitely return to this hotel.

« Cheap, convenient and cheerful. »

I stayed here for two nights while attending the UK Ballroom Championship event at the BIC. The hotel was a short walk from the town centre, the event and all the pubs, restaurant and shops that I wanted to visit. It was a clean and basic room but had everything I needed. I chose the hotel mostly based on the low price and secondly for the convenient location. I slept well and had a comfortable stay within budget.

« Staff and breakfast a credit to the hotel »

This was a stay of excellent value for money. The room was dated but adequate and clean, the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I did change rooms for the last night as I had a disturbed night hearing a child cry in a neighbouring room. The next room had no such disturbance. Both breakfast and room service food were good quality. Parking can become an issue if arriving late but again staff are helpful.

    « Comfortable hotel »

I have been staying here for 3 months, staff are very helpful and the chef makes a very good roast dinner. small bar well stocked would stay here anytime. remember this is not up market but I have found my stay there to be very good, room very clean beds comfortable central heating works which in the cold weather is good. well done Best Western Montague

    « Anniversary break. »

We stayed here for Wk end.all staff friendly and helpful. Disappointed with no evening meals, but we found a lovely Italian restaurant la piazza down road literally 5 mins walk. The hotel lovely clean.we were in room 15. And woke both mornings between 4 am and 5 am.sounded like someone running around upstairs.. breakfast was nice everything you needed. We wouid return definitely but a different room. .good price for what we received.

« Not so sure it's the best!!!! »

We stayed for 3 nights with breakfast. Firstly the staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us help with where to eat. We ate out as we were staying Fri, Sat and Sunday and this was the time that the hotel was not serving evening meals. We thought this was odd as it would be the busiest time, also it was stated in the welcome book that there were meals 6pm-9pm. This needs to made clear to future bookers. Our matress in our room was slanted to one side making it very uncomfortable. The rooms i think need to have a small fridge to store milk for tea and coffee and cold drinks, as the milk and coffee isn't replenished unless you request for your room to be cleaned, then you don't get enough. All in all I would not stay at this hotel again, as previous reviewers have said the walls are very thin and you can her everybody moving around, even the neighbours talking. It was a cheap place to stay and was clean, but i have stayed in just as cheap but with better facilities and was able to sleep due to lack of noise.

    « Great night stay »

Very clean rooms, lovely shower, super white bedding. Helpful & friendly staff. Smoked salmon & scramble eggs on muffins for Breakfast, cooked perfectly set us up for the day. Good wide parking spaces and FREE, good location & We would definitely stay here again.

    « Nice little hotel »

We stayed in this hotel for two nights with breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable with an ensuite bathroom, which had both bath and shower. The breakfast was a continental buffet with a small choice of cooked options. The food was well cooked and tasty. The hotel was well located and staff very friendly. The only downside was a slightly too soft mattress and a hotel bar which was advertised to serve food from 6pm - 9pm but when we went to order food were told it was Monday to Thursday only. There were no signs to say this, not even in the hotel room booklet or in the TV scrolling info about the hotel, in fact the opposite. Couldn't really understand why it was closed over a weekend. So a nice hotel but eat before you return in an evening.

    « Best Western - Bournemouth - Montague Hotel »

My team were playing AFC Bournemouth and I needed somewhere to stay from Friday 'til Sunday. Checked on-line and got a great price for 2 nights B & B @ £43/Night (Beat Premier Inn - haha) Got same deal through calling booking line - hate paying on-line. Check in was an absolute dream, paperwork spot on and friendly greetings etc. The guys on reception explained where I could eat etc - some nice places to eat in town - every type you need, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Indian and of course - English. Stayed in room 18, had got everything I needed. Bed, shower with gel etc, big TV - so everything fine in room. The breakfast is all you need, serve yourself toast/drinks etc, and the order for breakfast is superb - you can even have more than 1 fried egg if you want!! Checkout was super - the same guy who checked me in - great service. If AFC Bournemouth stay in the PL next season then I'll be back staying here at my preferred hotel.

    « lovely stay »

Good hotel pleasant staff rooms clean bed comfortable old building with creaky floorboards. Breakfast lovely good selection lounge bar lovely with reasonable prices for drinks. Bathroom was clean water was always hot would use this hotel again for a cheap getaway

    « Oh Dear !!! »

I booked this hotel on line. When I arrived the reception was friendly. However when I got to my room I was very disappointed. The mattress was definitely on its last legs, when I say on the bed there was no support and I was virtually sat on the bed frame. I asked for a change of room at reception which threw them a little. The replacement room was not much better, but by then I had just about had enough after being on the road since the early hours. The room was basic, walls were thin and you could hear everything. At breakfast the staff were extremely pleasant but as in another reviewers comments an iron wouldn't come amiss. All in all very disappointing and poor value for money. Not what you would expect when booking into a Best Western Hotel. Never again!!!!!!

    « Bedroom »

The hotel was very average. The room walls were like paper and I could hear every footstep and noise from all of the surrounding rooms. The bed was very soft and uncomfortable. The cooked breakfast was fine but the presentation of the continental breakfast items was really poor. The two girls working in the breakfast room looked tired and untidy - a clean and ironed blouse would have helped. Not an experience to be repeated.

we booked the montague the night before arrival, last minute, family room with breakfast, check in nice and smooth, room sufficient for what we wanted, plenty of room, light and airy. Bathroom a bit dated but this is a budget hotel so no worries there. Good nights sleep. Breakfast was great value for money, continental, unlimited hot and cold drinks

« Very good for the price »

We've just returned from a one night stay at the Montague and we think it's overall very good for the price point. Rooms are clean, lots of hot water and hotel lovely and warm, lovely breakfast cooked to order, friendly and helpful staff, free parking. Yes, the hotel decor is a bit tired and the floorboards a bit squeaky. But the hotel does the important things well so is good value for money!

« Difficult/impossible to find in the dark »

On a confusing roundabout, the street sign is not lit and the name was falling off the wall. I drove past 6 times before I found it on foot. Inside I can only kindly describe the hotel as ideal for the "working man". Breakfast is OK, but my room and the public areas are dated and worn. Car park far too small, and there was no standing shower in my room, had to sit in the bath and hold the shower head. Extremely squeaky floors, can't get out of bed without waking all rooms in the vicinity. Poor sound insulation between rooms. Had I paid high season prices I would have rated the hotel as 1 out of 5. However I was given a very good January rate, so I am more kindly disposed towards it.

    « A Great hotel Ideally located »

Just got back from a 3 day mini break between Christmas and the New year at this little gem of a hotel in Bournemouth, Ideally located within a 5 minute walk to the cliff walk which looks down on #Bournemouth beach and pier located in a a lovely park with plenty of benches to sit on and watch the world go by. The hotel isn't large but is very cosy offers a small restaurant that serves excellent food a large bar with a happy hour, free parking and pleasant and attentive staff. We had the bed and breakfast option and the breakfast were great with a full English offered on top of the continental serve yourself. If I could offer one suggestion it would be for the hotel to discourage people appearing in the breakfast room dressed in there pyjamas,"onesie"s or sleeping clothes looking dishevelled and generally making the breakfast room look untidy, Maybe a notice could be placed at the entrance to the breakfast room. Apart from that a great place to stay

    « Friendly Hotel »

The staff at this hotel are always friendly and helpful, and having used this hotel on numerous occasions the staff have got to know me and they always make me feel really welcome, The manageress went out of her way to sort out my Best Western loyalty card, although i use the hotel for business if i were in Bournemouth for pleasure i would stay here

    « Short Stay »

For the price we paid the 4 night stay was good value. The Bedroom was large and very comfortable access to WI Fi was ok and the bed was comfortable. Breakfasts were good value with a good range of options.

« Lovely Second Short Break Stay Will definitely Return »

Great hotel which we have stayed in twice now.....returning from last year. Lovely and clean and great little bar which has a "happy Hour" 2pm-7pm...£2.70 most drinks!!!! I would definitely recommend we stayed in a group of 10 of us male and female for a christmas shopping/get together trip. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Why oh why people moan about this hotel I do not know.....I really do not know what people expect. The breakfast is a must!!!

    « Never again »

Only a one night stay and am glad that was all !!, not impressed !!, hotel seemed clean, but not have breakfast as charging £8 each, no hot water so had to boil kettle so could shave this morning !, but couldn't shower !!, floor creaked all though room an seem a prob in other rooms to !, I heard others had moaned about lack of hot water but we all told it due to everyone using at same time !!, crap !!, never had in other hotels so think they need new boiler !!, not bad location. ??

    « Never again »

I have stayed at the Montague on numerous occasions in the past but I was bitterly disappointed by my recent visit. To make matters worse I redeemed Best Western loyalty points to stay here. Although I booked a superior room it fell far below my expectations. In fact I have stayed in far better standard rooms at the hotel. The bath in room 31 was fitted into an alcove making it difficult to get in and out of. It lacked a wall mounted shower, and neither the towel rail or radiator where working. So to put it mildly, it was a small cramped ice box of a bath room. The receptionist was completely disinterested when I raised these issues. This used to be a friendly quirky hotel, but most of the staff appeared to have changed.

    « Weekend Stay »

We had booked a twin room and found that this was 2 narrow single beds which are usually together as a double which had been separated by about 4 inches. We moved the little bedside cabinet between them so we could both reach/use it, but this forced the beds directly under the headboard mounted lamps. Turning over meant risking a collision with the corner of the cabinet, or a lamp. Also it meant reaching the bathroom door a bit of challenge too. We solved the problem by moving one bed off into the corner of the room so all was well, if still a little cramped. But our trip wasn't about occupation of a stylish and glam room, so we didn't mind much. Only this reconfiguration of the beds revealed the secret switch for the heated towel rail in the bathroom, too. We would have liked something as simple as hooks on the back of the door so that we could hang damp coats somewhere other than in the wardrobe. A small but irritating detail. There were a few tatty bits: a bit of edging broken off the room table, a bit of flakey paint in the bathroom and the hot water could be a bit erratic. On the plus side, the breakfast (included in the room tariff) was excellent. Lots of choice and all of good quality. The staff were cheerful and welcoming. The bedding was clean and in good condition. The bar/lounge was nice, if a bit soulless. If you're looking for a Posh Hotel Experience, this is probably not the one you're looking for. If you want a clean room just to sleep and store your stuff within walking distance of the town centre, you'll be fine here.

    « Overnight in Bournemouth »

The hotel is located within walking distance to the town and beach bearing in mind we enjoy walking. We were able to easily find a parking place in the hotel car park. The staff were friendly and the included Breakfast was very nice. The room was reasonable and the bathroom was fine. The main problem I found was that as we were located on the top floor the ceiling was angled so that although I'm not tall I was in danger of hitting my head when getting out of bed. In the end I placed a chair against the wall in case I got out of bed during the night.

« Terrible room and management even worse! »

We booked this hotel since it was one of the very few hotels in Bournmouth with rooms left on the night we wished to stay and when we arrived early evening after a three hour drive in heavy traffic, we were looking forward to a hot meal and a nicecomfortable room. How wrong were we! Despite the hotel being fully booked we were informed that food was not served at the weekend. We were then shown to what resembled a closet with very little room to manoeuvre and the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. The shower cubical at the bottom was mouldy, with huge cracks around the base. The skirting board was coming away from the wall and was full of holes and the towel rail was rusting. In short I would not have used this to bathe my dog, let alone myself! Oh and did I mention that the duvet was stained! When I reported this to the Receptionist she apologised but stated that she could not move us since the hotel was full, however, she did offer to to see if another hotel had any rooms. Obviously that was unlikely since there was an event in Bournmouth that weekend, hence the difficulty in finding any hotel in the area with space! Unfortunately, I had paid for said room and was informed that only management could offer a refund, so once I had returned home I complained in writing, requesting a full refund. Several emails later and the company have still refused a refund stating that they are only a three star hotel which seems to be their defence! Surely ALL hotel rooms should be fit for purpose regardless of their star rating! I included photographs in my correspondence which were only addressed by stating that they had passed their inspection and since I had declined their offer of a free nights stay, they continue to decline my request for a refund. I would avoid this hotel at all costs and our complaint is ongoing. Sadly there is no option to post photographs in this review which is why the hotel seem to be so blase in their attitude! We were informed that

    « Pleasant stay »

My partner and I stayed here for one night - the staff were friendly (but made a mistake with my payment). The rooms are clean and comfortable, but a bit small and the toilet has a very long and noisy flush. We included a full English breakfast in our stay, which was nice and came with continental breakfast options, but quite small (only one of each item). Overall a simple and pleasant stay. I was also awoken by some very load guys trying to get into their rooms.

    « Business »

very good homely hotel who always make me feel welcome, ideal location for my work, the manager during this stay went the extra mile to sort out my loyalty card which has been outstanding for a while.

    « Another lovely stay »

This hotel is bright, clean and warm. The staff are friendly and welcoming - nothing seemed too much for them. The breakfast is ample and well presented. It's a stone's throw from the beach and town. We have already booked for May 2016 and will no doubt book again in August for the Bournemouth Air Show. Well done Montague.

    « Fab Weekend! »

Just returned home from great stay at the Montague Hotel. Lovely little gem of a hotel, with it being positioned just a 10 minute stroll from the town centre, beach and shops. Rooms were clean and breakfast was good. The staff were so kind and friendly and happy to help wherever needed. Karol in particular was just an absolute star. A real warm feel to the place. Defiantly would return to this hotel

    « Words fail me! »

I honestly do not know where to begin! We paid £85.00 for bed and breakfast, arriving early evening, tired and hungry. We asked to see the bar menu only to be told that food was not serviced over the weekend! We were shown to what I can only describe as a closset at the top of the hotel and the bathroom area was absolutely awful. The Receptionist did offer to find us a room at another hotel, but that weekend was particularly busy, due to a large function at the BIC centre, it was getting late and I was doubtful at finding an alternative. I took several photographs and sent a written complaint to the Management. Their response was to offer me a free nights stay, which I obviously declined. The matter is ongoing!

    « Average »

A two night stay while attending a conference at the BIC (10 minute walk) at a very average hotel. The rooms need a bit of an update, but having said that, they are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is decent and the service very functional, so no complaints. Would stay again if needed to.

« Ok for one night, but would never stay Again. »

As one of the other reviews said, no lights on the sign outside, and we must have gone past it at least four times, (is it too much to have a lit sign) very annoying. When we saw our room with a double bed knowing it really could only fit a single one we actually had to laugh. The bathroom door did not open fully because the bed prevented it, and it was the smallest bathroom/toilet ever, and the sink was so low down my husband was practically bent double washing, I'm only 5ft and it was even low for me lol! Yes the place is very tired and definitely needs a makeover everywhere. Our room was clean, the bed comfy, and the breakfast was very adequate with plenty of choice. Would not stay again though as it was too claustrophobic and from the sound of the reviews the other rooms aren't much better.

    « A pleasant visit »

We spent two nights at this hotel in October. Our room was a superior room but was quite small with not much space between the end of the bed and the dressing table, making it tricky to move about without getting in each others way. However the bed was exceptionally large and comfortable. The bathroom was fine with shower gel and soap provided from dispensers, but for a hotel of this price I would have expected to find some more luxurious toiletries supplied. Breakfast was well cooked but the choice of fruit juice and fresh fruits was very limited. As usual with these do it yourself toasters we either ended up with soggy bread or burnt offerings if we put it through again, I do wish hotels would just make toast fresh! Without exception the hotel staff were friendly, cheerful and very helpful.

« Just ok for one night »

First impressions are lasting. The first impression I got was "where is it?" That is because the sign outside on the road was not lighted. When we told the receptionist he just said, "the light is broken". Yeah, thanks. Equally the sign at the back of the building next to the car park was also not illuminated. So glad we got there just before sunset or we'd never have found it. The hotel is just average. A bit tired looking. Very creaky floors. The shower was diabolical. I had to run the water for over a minute before I got any hot water, and then the temperature was fluctuating. Breakfast is just ok. Decent choice. Small dining area.

« Great Staff, Tired Hotel »

We were checked in by great reception staff first room offered was very small so asked to move second room much better but bathroom needed refurbishing with tatty bath panel mold on tiles and broken tiles, shower dangerous at times with intermitten temps. Beds poor quality and pillows wouldnt stay again although the staff were great.

    « Wanted to give 2.5 »

I needed a room and generally I like Best Western in the UK. Hotels are all individual. My room was a double but this meant that I couldn't open the bathroom door. (There are pictures elsewhere from other guests). Bathroom was small and my view was disappointing. On the plus side dinner was okay nothing special I expect good fish and chips at the seaside! Breakfast was good though and the staff friendly and helpful. I just think putting a single bed in the room I had would have been better.

« Mold in the bathroom »

The lady at the front desk was very nice. We checked in then left the room to go walk along the beach, even though it was raining. We returned and my son started having breathing problems. We found there was mold in the bathroom. We asked for cleaning supplies to clean it up. The manager came up and said he had no access to cleaning supplies. It was the airshow weekend so they had no rooms available. I asked if they could help us find another hotel, the manager tried but his information was inaccurate. I asked could he at least pay for our cab, it was really raining out. He said no he could not do that. Well after going from one hotel to another we finally found a very expensive hotel that had suite just opened up. We stayed there for 3 nights as this was the only accommodation available and our train tickets had been booked from this place. In the end we ended up spending 250 lbs a night in a luxury hotel. So folks check the bathroom at this place.

    « my stay »

receptionist very welcoming and booked in quickly . my room was small for a double but adequate. very clean . the only problem was the shower had no pressure . because l was staying only one night ,forgot to report it to reception.
