"A lovely stay!!!!"

07/09/2018

What a fabulous little hotel just outside Banbury. Looks like recently done up so everything was immaculate. Plenty of parking (much apprecciated) , ala carte English breakfast with plenty of choice from a full English to avocado & poached eggs! The room was compact but had a comfy bed, decent sized bathroom with a good shower, tea/coffee, good Internet. I would definitely stay here again!!!!!

"Lovely Location"

28/08/2018

Sat for a drink on their outside terrace in the evening sun, which was lovely and then had bar snack in their beautiful orangery - a lovely comfortable location. Don't be put off by it being a hotel, it is lovely to go there just for a drink. A change from a pub location.

"Wonderful"

The venue is just lovely, a beautiful building in lovely surroundings, the room was lovely with a huge bed & very peaceful Staff all so lovely, friendly & welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely stay again in the future & would highly recommend

"A charming hotel"

10/08/2018

The hotel is situated in the picturesque village of Wroxton a few miles from the M40. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfasts excellent, but its main asset is its staff. We found them to be friendly, welcoming and eager to make our stay as enjoyable possible. My wife and I have stayed several times and will certainly do so in the future.

"Lovely."

We stayed here for a local horseriding competition in the area. Lovely location, great food and a huge room- thrilled with that. Breakfast very good and very friendly service. Was a bit noisy but was warned about that pre arrival- appreciated! Unfortunately the car parking isn't the best in the hotel, I would suggest marking bays out so people can get in and out more efficiently and not block each other in. The reception manager, Betty? I think her name was, was a lovely lady who took real pride and interest in her work. The lady who checked us in- I don't know if she had had a bad shift or whatever but it was like she couldn't wait to get rid of us and go home! Would come back and would definitely recommend.

Hello Jessica, thank you for your kind review following your recent stay with us and I'm delighted that, despite a couple of niggles, you enjoyed your stay and would choose to return again. Betty is our Reception Manager and has been with us for many years, she is a valued member of our team and a real asset to the hotel.

"Convenient & Quiet"

Wonderful hotel right off the A422, super quiet and clean. Don't miss the restaurant the food is very good! The room was well appointed and the beds were perfect for a good night's rest! Breakfast in the AM was very nice, the buffet portion was cold and hot items were ordered off the menu.

"Lovely friendly Hotel and staff"

26/07/2018

Came here last year to the Classic Car Show and enjoyed the Hotel so much we rebooked for this year. We found the Hotel just as friendly, the food was lovely and the chefs were happy to adapt the menu to your requirements. Despite a bit of delay on Saturday due to a wedding and new staff it didn't affect our stay overall. Having enjoyed our stay once again we have booked the same deal for 2019.

Emma M, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I'm pleased you decided to choose to stay with us again for the Classic Car Show and that you enjoyed your stay with us, so much so, you've rebooked again next year! Many thanks and see you both in 2019!

"Lovely Country Hotel"

From the moment you arrive until you leave the staff at this hotel can't do enough for you, and all with a smile. Lovely large rooms. The restaurant food was good but due to a wedding a bit under pressure with staffing.

"4 night stay while visiting UK"

5
17/07/2018

The hotel is situated just 10 minutes from Banbury and also gives great access to many other tourist attractions in the area. It is situated in a very picturesque village. The outside of the hotel is very pretty and the gardens are kept very tidy. It's three cottages joined together to help create the hotel. On entering the hotel it is very cool and airy which leads to a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff help keep that relaxed feel going. We found the staff although young, to be very friendly and helpful which helped make our stay even more enjoyable. Our room was very comfortable and quaint as we had a loft room. The breakfasts were very good and we only had bar food of an evening but it was to a very high standard. Our stay in this hotel set us up very nicely for the rest of our stay in the UK, we would certainly return if ever we needed a hotel in this area.

Emma M, General Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Hello Andrew, you've hit the nail on the head, we certainly are perfectly located for many fabulous locations and attractions including the 'chocolate box' village of Wroxton! We're delighted you enjoyed your stay and meal at the hotel and hope to welcome you back in the future.

"Beautiful location, superb accommodation, excellent, staff food and service"

16/07/2018

Two nights in this hotel and I would recommend without reservation. It is a lovely property in a beautiful part of England and the staff are excellent. We were lucky enough weather wise to be able to dine outside as well as in the restaurant. The rooms were excellent the food was too but the staff really topped of the experience.

"Wedding Venue"

5
15/07/2018

Beautiful surroundings and not your typical “chain” hotel. The hotel itself is quaint and has kept the original design of this building and yet is up to date with all the things you'd expect in a hotel! Was nice to have a key to our door instead of a card. Staff were friendly and helpful and our room was immaculate with all facilities you'd expect. We were there for a wedding - lovely venue for a small wedding.

Emma M, General Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Laney, thank you for your kind review and whilst being a member of Best Western, we are also proud to retain our own individuality. We're delighted you had a comfortable stay and enjoyed the Wedding too!

"Lovely hotel and staff"

14/07/2018

Only stayed one night to break up our journey home. Delightful hotel with a lovely thatched roof and a very warm welcome from Betty. The hotel is very well presented with excellent service provided from the very attentive and charming people that work there. We really enjoyed our brief visit and look forward to another relaxing visit in the future.

Emma M, General Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Dan, thank you for your review following your brief stay with us. We are delighted that the staff, in particular Betty helped to make your stay a pleasant one.

"Private Dining"

We booked the private dining area for my father's 80th birthday. The food was great. The service was excellent. We had a very nice evening. The room is beautiful with French doors and a nice big window

Thank you for your review following your father's 80th birthday celebration meal at the hotel in the Wroxton Room. This room certainly lends itself perfectly for the these occasions.

"A lovely and Morgan-friendly hotel"

5
04/07/2018

My wife and I stayed at Wroxton House Hotel as part of a group of owners of Morgan 100 sports cars. We had not stayed at this hotel before and we were extremely happy with the whole experience. The staff are all very friendly and helpful; the rooms are very clean and comfortable, the food is very enjoyable and my wife and I can heartily commend the hotel to any prospective guest. Anyone wanting a good base from which to explore the Cotswolds can not lose by staying here.

"Lovely stay in such a charming place"

26/06/2018

Simply lovely ! the hotel is situated near to the Wroxton village, filled with many picturesque houses. The Wroxton college is very near, where one can enjoy a great walk around the castle, and its beautiful garden. The rooms of the hotel are warmly decorated, and clean. Fresh towels and linen. Water heater for tea/ coffee and scottisch biscuits available in the room. Friendly and smiley restaurant staff. Well prepared food , with amuse bouche, and a choice of two or three courses !

"Even better the second time"

23/05/2018

Stayed here in December and thought it was an excellent choice for a group of friends, so for our 40th wedding anniversary we decided to invite 22 other people for a celebration staying for 2 nights. The staff are first rate and made our stay very enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble and all with a smile. The evening meals were outstanding and for me the oxtail was the star, not an easy dish to get just right but the chef managed it. The breakfasts are just as good with plenty of choice and the full English was enjoyed by everyone. The rooms were clean and well equipped. A number of our friend have decided that they will use the hotel for gatherings they may have in the future. Will definitely be back

Emma M, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for choosing the hotel to celebrate your 40th Wedding Anniversary following your stay with us last December. I'm delighted you all had a fabulous time and that the staff and meals were a particular highlight. Maybe we'll have the opportunity of welcoming you all back for your 50th Anniversary!

"Very nice hotel"

21/05/2018

Stayed here for business group meal and overnight. Very nice quality hotel. Room wasn't large but well equipped and good quality. The menu held a good selection and the food was also good quality. The lounge area was very nice with various seating options. Would definitely recommend.

18/05/2018

Lovely hotel very comfortable friendly staff lovely breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble . Very enjoyable stay and will returning without any doubt. It was central for the town centre. We were visiting family in the area and it was just a perfect location not far Stratford upon Avon, lemming ton spa.

"Beautiful hotel and super service"

5
09/05/2018

What a wonderful hotel. We chose it purely by chance and could not have made a better choice. Large comfortable rooms, tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Excellent food and amazingly good service from all staff, especially in dealing with a problem that we encountered, to the point where if we could give 6 stars instead of 5 we would do so. The village too is an absolute gem, a quintessentially quaint Cotswold gem - complete with duckpond and thatched duck house.

"The Arts Society Southport "

5
23/04/2018

27 people stayed for three nights, 27 experienced travellers who without exception throughly enjoyed their stay. The food, service, staff and accommodation were excellent. A problem arose on the first morning, but was dealt with swiftly and professionally by Stuart the operations manager. The only drawback being the entrance walls are listed and a coach arriving from Banbury has to turn round to get access in, a small inconvenience to stay at an excellent establishment.

"Lovely Midweek Break"

5
15/04/2018

We booked this hotel using our Tesco Deals vouchers as a base to visit Oxford. Situated in a lovely thatched village just outside Banbury, parts of the hotel date back to the 16th century and newer additions blend seamlessly with the old. From check in to departure, the service and welcome were faultless and made the whole experience very enjoyable. The room was very comfortable with all the usual amenities. All of the staff were courteous and helpful at all times. Although this is part of a large chain of hotels, it felt like an intimate and individual hotel. We stayed two nights and ate in the restaurant and the bar and the food was of a high quality, well presented and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend here to anyone and would stay here again if visiting the area.

"A Brilliant Wedding weekend."

5
11/04/2018

We booked the Wroxton as our wedding venue as they are licensed to carry out registrar weddings and we wanted one location where guests could also stay. Margaret, the Event Manager was brilliant, helping us through the whole process and giving us confidence that all would be well. On the day itself the whole staff and organisation were excellent with not a hitch the whole day. Guests commented on how well the whole day went and those that stayed were very complementary about their rooms and breakfast. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a wedding venue or reception; it made a special day for us all the more so!

"A very enjoyable visit"

5
13/03/2018

I have had the good fortune of spending the weekend at the BW Banbury Wroxton. The staff were very friendly, engaging helpful. The restraint food was of an exceptional standard with a cosy and pleasant atmosphere. I found the beef salad to be a culinary delight and would recommend this dish to diners that like slightly spicy food. The chef did not scrimp on the beef content, and I found it to be very filling. I found the menu to be a little heavy on seafood, but having said that, I am not really keen on seafood The only negative side to the stay was the bed (Room 18). As the bed was past its sell by date and a lot of people had sat on the edge of the bed, both my wife and I felt like we might roll out of bed during the night. I would have no hesitation in staying at this establishment again or recommend it to friends and family

"Comfortable stay"

5
12/03/2018

My husband and I stayed here on our journey north from London. It was one heck of a journey in the bad weather but when we arrived we were greeted warmly. Our room was a good size, bigger than what we had experienced in London and had the amenities you needed for a comfortable stay. We really enjoyed the real English breakfast in the morning and the sausages were just great! We would definitely stay here again if we were ever in the area and needed to spend the night!

"Good hotel, but poor value"

4
12/03/2018

This was our third visit and there was much to enjoy. We did feel though, sadly, that things were not quite as good as before. The room was lovely; spotless, well equipped and quiet. The staff were too, friendly and welcoming. It's a pretty hotel with nice public areas and lots to do in the area. Food was slightly less satisfactory. Dinner was very nice, but portions were small; don't go if you have a big appetite! Breakfast was disappointing. Not everything was available, on Sunday there was no a la carte offering and dishes on the buffet were slow to be replenished. Plates on the buffet were lukewarm at best. Sausages were poor and mushrooms appeared to be tinned. We paid a lot of money for this break and although we enjoyed it, the standard of food, which we had previously thought excellent, had slipped and the value was, frankly, quite poor.

"Chose a 2 night Winter Break here for onward travel options"

5
08/03/2018

Arrived at a snow-covered hotel at the end of a 200 mile drive. The entrance area had a pathway cleared of snow and we were able to offload our luggage easily before parking the car in their spacious rear car-park. We were allocated a well maintained and warm room on the first floor (no lift) with a great wall-mounted TV and free Wifi. Large, comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast each day, with a good selection of food. All staff were friendly and efficient. The snow had almost disappeared when we left so were then able to admire the part-thatched buildings making up the Hotel.

"70th Birthday Celebration"

26/02/2018

Have just returned from a fabulous weekend at this hotel. The staff and facilities were second to none. The party and food perfect and everyone so helpful and united in making my special day so wonderful; it could not have gone better. We stayed two nights with family and friends and we will definitely return on another weekend.

"Lovely relaxing break"

5
18/02/2018

We were in Room 1 which overlooked the road. In the morning I was surprised to find that the road was quite busy - we hadn't heard a thing! The room was a pretty good size and very comfortable. The (thatched) hotel is very pretty viewed from the road. Wroxton village is utterly charming with the thatched houses and duck pond. Breakfast was a real highlight. The sausages were amongst the best I have tasted. The lounge and conservatory are lovely places to relax. Excellent wi-fi throughout. My only minor gripe was that I didn't have much luck with my newspaper order - although I was given the hotel copy on the first morning.

"Very disappointing"

2
14/02/2018

Pleasant looking, comfortable hotel with modern extensions to the original period house. Quiet pretty village location with very few amenities. Mid sized free car park. Friendly welcome on arrival, but no recognition we were Best Western Rewards members. Room and ensuite bathroom were extremely small considering the high room rate, we were really expecting to be wowed for the price paid. To top our disappointment, our room overlooked the car park :/ We used the bar but this was not staffed, although it was full of people having afternoon tea. We had to wait for the receptionist to be free so she could serve us drinks, also we were unable to pay up front for them, we were told we could only have them if they were charged to our room (we like to pay up front as incorrect charging by hotels is so frequent these days). A visit to the White Horse pub down the road for pre-dinner drinks was a disaster, we may as well have been aliens from the looks we received from the locals and the young female behind the bar! We didn't have dinner here, due to the lack of good service in the afternoon. Breakfast would have been good, had it have been HOT. Why is this so hard for hotels to get right?? On leaving we complained about breakfast, also several aspects of the bathroom which were not working or broken, and the fact there is no dedicated catering serving staff during a busy Saturday. There was no apology, or attempt to appease us, just a comment from the female receptionist that our feedback would be passed on.

"Lovely "

13/02/2018

quality hotel with very attentive staff who can't so enough to please . Restaurant and lounge meals are good value and high standard. What a difference it makes to stay in a hotel where the staff are welcoming and happy to please . Lovely rural location and the room was gorgeous Would not hesitate to stay here again

"Excellent relaxed stay"

11/02/2018

Another lovely stay at the splendid Wroxton House Hotel. Warm welcome at reception and super-friendly staff throughout. Our executive room was spotless, good-sized, and so quiet. Comfy bed & pillows = a great night's sleep. We dined at the bar/lobby area and chilled out there for the evening. A lovely atmosphere, calm, relaxed. Again, superb service from the lovely staff. Very nice background music too. As ever, breakfast was superb. Wroxton House's gravel car park can get a little wet/dirty. So if it's bad weather, drop off/pick up your car's passengers at the front of the hotel to avoid muddy footwells & gain brownie points! Thanks to all the staff - another perfect stay at this peaceful haven in the countryside.

"As good as ever"

5
07/02/2018

We are just back from our annual car club weekend, and the Wroxton was as good as ever. This is our third time in a row, and it never fails to look after us. The staff are attentive and helpful, the location peaceful, and they cope with 50 of us for a dinner/dance with no problem, at an excellent group rate. The food is good, and the rooms comfortable. Being a traditional old Cotswold building, some of them are a bit of a climb, but ground floor rooms are available if you ask. They also vary in size, with the Cottage Suite being a real experience. The car park is away from the road, important if you have precious cars. The White Horse nearby is a traditional English pub, with a warm welcome, and excellent beer if you do not like the standard hotel offerings. The only reason we are not coming back next year is we are going the seaside.

"End of a very successful era"

01/02/2018

I have lost count of the number of times I have stayed at this hotel on business trips to Oxfordshire. It became almost like a second home. The place embodies all that a small family owned and run hotel should strive to be. They pride themselves on making guests feel at home and valued where nothing is too much trouble. The owners were very much hands-on as would I be had I invested my hard-earned loot in such a venture, who clearly valued their staff and this was reciprocated with loyalty. In fact until recently I cannot recall a staff change. When they introduced a new generation into the team namely their daughter and son-in-law as managers it looked as though the dynasty would continue and family ownership would continue. Sadly this is not to be, as the place was sold just prior to Christmas. How the place will change who knows? It is reassuring to know that as far as we know it's business as usual. It must be so hard delivering the quality of service that is offered here and having to deal with some of the asinine comments from anonymous people -wouldn't be for me I can tell you. There is nothing not to like about this place - oh sorry, wrong, the batteries in my TV remote failed when I was there this week, shocking! So farewell John & Gill Smith - I am sure all your regulars wish you well for a much deserved retirement (just behind you), you led a great team and I do hope the new owners do nothing to change the winning formula and whilst no longer in your family ownership Emma, Stuart and the team continue to thrive.

Emma M, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your very touching review. We wish John and Gill all the best with their what will be a very busy retirement! We are extremely lucky to have such a fabulous team and long may it continue. We very much look forward to having you back when you are officially 'off the clock' and using us as a base to see family rather than working, hopefully soon. Best wishes, Emma

"Our 4th visit and possibly the best, great food and room."

My wife and I decided to stop a Sunday night which was bed breakfast and evening meal, which included a bottle of house wine in a standard room which was £148.Sounds a lot but it was well worth it.The standard room, number 26 was quiet and a good size with bath and shower.really was a great room, the telly could be updated but hey we were on a break so who cares about tv.The check in was easy and the lady very helpful(as were the rest of the staff we met,all very amenable). The dinner was excellent we managed to eat all three courses plus an amuse bouche of creamy cheese and beetroot, absolute heaven to kick off with. The starters,I had parsnip soup and my wife had the aranchi, were again excellent, the main course we both enjoyed was the open lasagne, really well presented and garnished, tasted lovely. The desserts,I had the roast pear(amazing)and my wife had carrot and toffee, very, very nice. Each dish was original and very good indeed. We are veggies and we could moan about the fact that there was only only veggie listed on the main course, but the quality of the meal was superb. We will certainly return again when we fancy a bit of a treat.

I am delighted you enjoyed your Sunday night Sleepover with us. Any excuse is a good excuse at this time of the year to get away and indulge yourself with a good meal and some 'r and r'. Best wishes, Emma

"Beautiful and Tranquil"

25/01/2018

My wife and I stayed here for a few days to get away after a hectic Christmas and New Year. It was just what we needed. From check in to check out, everyone we came across was so friendly and always said hello with a smile. Special mention must go to the young waitress. She was very chatty and funny and was a pleasure to talk to at dinner. In the afternoons were able to lounge around by the fire, which was always roaring. We had lunch one day and the menu was great and there was plenty on it that we weren't stuck for choice. Dinner was an exceptional affair. The restaurant, as I understand it, is built in the original part of the building and is beautiful. There was a larger group in on our first night and we were concerned they would be loud and ruin our dinner. The staff actually ensured they were placed at the other end of the restaurant so as not to disturb other diners. I had salmon, venison and rice pudding. It was absolutely brilliant. Lovely twist on the rice pudding and beautifully presented. What I liked was that we were also offered the bar menu in the restaurant if we just wanted some 'comfort food'. Thank you to all for a most enjoyable stay and we will certainly be returning very soon.

Emma M, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I am delighted I am not the only one that thinks the rice pudding is to die for!! The roaring fire in the lounge gives you the perfect excuse to spend the afternoon catching up with a good book or flicking through a magazine for a few hours. You must return in the summer when the weather is better, the Orangery was made for a afternoon tea on a sunny afternoon. Best wishes, Emma

19/01/2018

Stayed here for a short break with my wife to get away from it all after a hectic festive season. From the moment we arrived until departure we were able to relax & unwind, and left feeling refreshed and peaceful once again. The staff attentiveness was just at the right level, not too overbearing, and with a friendliness which conveyed personal warmth without being over familiar. The room facilities were fantastic, with a very comfortable bed and the decor around the hotel gives a cosy, homely feel. I love the log fire! The Scottish man was able to give us recommendations for things to do in the area which was greatly appreciated. His professionalism and dedication to serve each guest in a personalized way went above and beyond our expectations, in fact rarely have i received such service in larger luxury hotels around the world. Overall, I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and will certainly make a point to book here again when in need of a quick getaway.

"Looked lovely, but experience was spoilt"

17/01/2018

This is my third time coming here with my wife, and now I can say for sure, that there is more than meets the eye. The hotel is warm and cosy, rooms were spacious, the meals were okay, and the staff took great care of us. However, it was not the first occasion we saw a few of them be mistreated by other staff members. On the first occasion we were greeted into the restaurant and placed at a table next to the kitchen door, everything on my end was run smoothly and the food was delicious. The restaurant was quite busy and you could see staff were on their toes and trying as hard as they could. Unfortunately the night was interrupted by the yelling in the kitchen which I had an earful of considering where I was seated. The young waiter/waitress looked distraught each time they came out the door with one of them on the verge of tears. I assumed it was just a bad night and everyone was exhausted. The next morning at breakfast I was greeted into the restaurant again and served straight away, I even joked with the waitress. The staff made me feel very accommodated. The restaurant started to become quite busy again and the yelling in the kitchen once again started. This time I witnessed a bit of the confrontation myself with crude and unprofessional comments from the older lads. I did not care for how the people in the suits (who I assume are management) were treating the younger staff. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry before I know the pressure can get to people, however the comments and tone of voice by the older gentlemen with grey hair was just unnecessary. Our second stay at the hotel was faultless and a nice quiet night in. We chatted with the blonde lady at the bar and decided to eat off the bar menu. Everything was wonderful and definitely improved my experience from the last time. I came back in mid December on my third and final visit and stayed for a week. Most of the younger staff had all changed and these waiters seemed like they had no idea what they were doing. They looked nervous and were again, mistreated by the older staff. A man with an accent kept making demeaning comments and the chubby man kept rolling his eyes. They did not try to hide this from customers and I felt it was very unprofessional. Clearly the new staff needed training but were rather shun upon and talked down to if they didn't do an efficient enough job. The place looks absolutely lovely, and guests are treated nicely as the staff were very nice to me personally. But I'm sure experiencing this sort of thing twice gives me a clear indication this is a common theme among the older staff and ruined what would have been a pleasant restaurant experience. Will not return again, as it left a sour taste in our mouths.

Dear Mr Javier, As I am sure you can understand there are some things that concern me in your review. Unfortunately I can't find any stays with us in December that were a week long in order to get in contact with you so would appreciate if you can give me a call to discuss further. Best wishes, Emma

"Private Party Perfection"

08/01/2018

This is our second year at Wroxton House for our annual company party. This year we had 55 guests, some staying over. We had our party in the Boughton Room which was perfect for us as we pretty much take over the hotel. The hotel itself is very cosy, beautifully decorated and furnished, lots of lovely features, beautiful Orangery, log fires and cosy corners. The rooms are clean and well provided for depending on how much you want to spend you can either have a beautiful bridal suite or an executive suite or a standard room. Location is good for us as we have people coming from all over the country, so not far from the M40 and other main routes. There is plenty of parking available. The hotel was perfect for our party, we chose the menu, the food was top notch and all diets were well catered for. The disco was excellent and if we were really organised we could have sent a playlist! Good choice of wine and drinks, staff amazingly helpful and our organiser Margaret was the best organiser I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I have over 20 years experience of organising and liaising with hotels for various events. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was made incredibly easy for me. We will defintely be planning for next years party here!

Emma M, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
There is nothing like keeping the party season going for another week or so! We would all be lost without Margarets' eye for detail and she keeps us all on the straight and narrow. Have a fabulous 2018 and we look forward to having you back again next year. Best wishes, Emma

"Not the best way to celebrate the New Year!"

05/01/2018

For the last 3 years, the Shipston-on-Stour Probus Club, [around 50 participants], has enjoyed an organised NY Lunch at this venue, for which I would give it 5 stars. This year it seems that the place has been under new management for the last 3 or 4 weeks, with very disappointing results: My Roasted Tomato and Basil Soup, although quite tasty was only luke warm. My Featherblade of Beef was vastly overcooked, leaving it completely dry and tasteless and charred in parts, ie inedible! My wife collected 4 uneaten portions from our table and put them in a doggy bag for our Spaniel. In addition, the accompanying diced vegetables were watery, overcooked and tasteless and the single brussel sprout was raw. To complete the disaster, I ordered Passionfruit cheesecake with Pineapple Salsa. This turned out to be a small piece of indeterminate fruit jelly on top of a slice of tasteless blancmange, with some unidentifiable crumbs scattered around the plate. The service was not particularly friendly, and the coffee was slopped in the saucers. The Coffee waiter interrupted a deep conversation I was having with my neighbour without so much as an "excuse me?". I got married at this hotel 20 years ago and was really delighted with the quality of the food an the service. I will not be coming here again, and, judging from the reaction of the other guests, neither will they!

Emma M, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I am so sorry you didn't feel you could say anything when you were here for lunch so we could have rectified your concerns immediately. As you can see from previous reviews our team, who will remain the same with our new owners, are often complimented for their friendly attitude and helpfulness. Other members of your group were very complimentary after lunch and we look forward to seeing Shipston-on-Stour Probus Club again later in the year. Best Wishes, Emma

"Overnight stop"

29/12/2017

We had a comfortable overnight stops at this hotel which is a few miles outside of Banbury itself. It is in a quiet countryside location. The interior communal areas were spacious with tasteful. However the decor of our rather small room appeared dated and drab, with a dull cream/brown colour scheme. That said the facilities were functional and we had a kettle in the room which was useful. The staff were very polite. We would recommend staying at hotel even though it seemed rather expensive.

"Lovely Christmas meal"

18/12/2017

18 of us sat down for a very enjoyable meal.We were given our own room where we could choose from the menu before being seated in a secluded dining area. The staff were excellent and attentive, without being obtrusive. The festive meals were really good and the other food was good to.The vegetables, we all agreed , were really good.Everyone would like to return here in the near future and some wanted to book up for next Christmas.

"60th birthday lunch"

12/12/2017

I arranged a birthday lunch for 18 persons in one of the private rooms. The staff were extremely helpful during the planning stage. On the day they provided a table plan, place cards and a stand for our own cake. We had our own dedicated manager for the event, the service was faultless and the food delicious.

"Wonderful Bithday Lunch"

07/12/2017

A family group of 14 plus two children under 2 met at Wroxton House for a family 70th birthday celebration. I had pre-booked and we had agreed on a separate room for our lunch. Our group had travelled from various parts of the country and did not all arrive together, this was not a problem, an area had been set aside for our party to use on arrival for drinks, coffee etc. When all were present we moved to our function room (The Wroxton Room) which was tastefully decorated in preparation for Christmas. The table was set out well to seat us all at one table with a high chair already on hand. Service was prompt, attentive and non-intrusive. Staff were available to collect drinks from the bar on request and to clear glasses when finished with. The food was excellent; everyone enjoyed what they had pre-ordered from a wide selection of dishes. When we had finished lunch there was no pressure to move from the room, we sat and chatted for some time. After some of the group had departed, those of us remaining decided to move to the reception area and continued to chat and enjoy more coffee. What contributed to making this occasion so special was the way the staff looked after us. The team, led by Vanessa were wonderful, relaxed but absolutely professional, a first class group of staff who understood how to make guest relax and enjoy the occasion. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this establishment. My thanks to Vanessa and the entire team at Wroxton House.

"Lovely Hotel - Let Down by Its Food Offering"

07/12/2017

I have stayed in this hotel some time ago and it had an air of quality which seems to be lacking. Perhaps my view is tainted by the fact that there was a function on and whilst I can see why they have functions (money) the place is too small for it not to impact on the other guests. Some of the staff seem to be very new/young and lack training and nobody seems to be in charge. My issue though is with the food - it is not very good for the price they ask and they need to be aware that there are a number of good eating places between them and Straford. The restaurant has been claimed by another reviewer as lacking atmosphere and I agree. When we went in it was cold and the lighting/décor did not really work. Maybe a candle on the table would have changed this -so why not do it? They are charging over £22 for a single course and there are the ridiculous annoying supplements - why? The choice is limited. The cheese board is excellent but the rice pudding awful - if you are going to call it rice pudding at least have the basic product there. It was like a mush of sugar. One of our party ate from the bar menu. It completely lacks imagination - the quality of fish is poor and the menu has very limited choice ie 2 burgers, beef and chicken (which is not a burger but a piece of plain chicken). There is no pasta dish, no nice salad dish, in fact the eating experience is all in all like the service, not what it was. The bacon at breakfast is not smoked and hence lacks taste. Something is not quite right here and I can't put my finger on it – but I hope the management can especially in the kitchen.

We have stayed several times at the Wroxton House and have never been disappointed. The staff work really hard to make you very welcome and ensure you have a lovely stay. Food was excellent, as always. Lovely room with very comfortable bed. Highly recommended.

"Underwhelmed"

2
06/12/2017

Went for Sunday Lunch with family. The portions are pathetic and overpriced as is the wine. Myself and another family member had the fish of the day and it should have been accompanied with a magnifying glass as well as the mountain of under cooked vegetables. The rest of our party were also very critical of their meal not one of us had anything positive to say about any of the courses. We should have complained but a very elderly member of our party was paying as a treat and we did not want to upset her by causing a scene.

"As good as ever!"

29/11/2017

We have stayed here several times, either using it as a base to explore the area or as a break in the journey from North Wales to the south coast and are always impressed with the comfort of the rooms, the friendly and helpful staff and the high standard of the food in the dining room. Always a pleasure to be there.

"Loud, bright & the worst nights sleep I've ever paid for..."

1
26/11/2017

Our first room was very hot, noisy and very bright ... the room was almost on top of a function room with a very large skylight, meaning the noise and flashing lights we're continuous, the room was also generally dirty. I spoke to reception to ask if we could be moved as we were advised the music would be going on till midnight, to which they advised there was only 1 spare room which was next to our current room. 20 minuets later I called again to say we would be leaving as the noise and flashing lights made it impossible to sleep, I was then advised there was another room which on the other-side of the hotel (after being previously told there was nothing else available). The second room was of a higher standard, I imagine the next price bracket, however, the room again was very very hot (radiators were off) and a tiny window we couldn't figure out how to open, there was also a constant noise from the bathroom. We paid for breakfast however after a couple of hours of sleep all night, we decided to leave at 6am as my partner and I was extremely fed-up. I would not recommend staying at this hotel unless you're nocturnal.

Gill S, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I am disappointed to read that you did not enjoy your stay with us last Saturday. It is our policy to allocate wedding guests the bedrooms nearest the function suite as they are generally the ones enjoying the party. I understand you went to bed early as your wife was unwell and when you pointed out, to us, that she was unable to sleep due to the music, we were, fortunately, able to move you to an executive room for which we had received a late cancellation. I hope that despite your wife feeling unwell on the night that you both enjoyed the wedding and that she is now much better. Kind regards Emma

"Disappointing- not great"

25/11/2017

Went for lunch with family last week. The service was ok (friendly, with lots of people milling with trays, willing to carry drinks for you) but not great (no one offering 2nd drinks at the table, collecting empty glasses or bothered that not one Yorkshire pudding has been eaten...the waitress just offered a giggly, embarrassed 'sorry' when we pointed it out to her) The food was pretty average. The goat cheese starter was tasty but minuscule - 2 tiny balls of cheese with lots of beetroot 'textures' (emphasis on textures, not flavours...it all tasted the same) 5 out of 7 of us had roast, not one of us could even get a knife through the Yorkshire pudding so we gave up! The chicken was nice, the small square of potato fondant underwhelming, and burnt sauerkraut (tasted like bitter, over done bubble & squeak) is not my favourite: thankfully there was only a spoonful! We all left feeling full, but lacking any wow factor, or desire to return. Anywhere that boasts 2 rosettes should be able to get a simple Yorkie right- a roast dinner will always be a let down if not.

"Don't Overlook This Place!"

17/10/2017

I usually bypass Best Western's for a Marriot or another name, however this particular hotel was charming, exceptionally clean, and offered fantastic service. It would easily cost $600 a night in New York City. I would stay here again and the pricey hotel we next stayed at in London didn't compare.

Gill S, Manager at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
We work very hard to ensure our guests feel special and valued, this is one of the benefits of being privately owned although being apart of the best western brand, so I am delighted to read that you felt this. Hopefully we will see you back again soon. Best wishes, Emma

"An excellent find"

17/10/2017

We were about to visit the area and decided to try this hotel as it was near to the place we were visiting. The hotel was an excellent find. From the point of checking in we were met with friendly and helpful staff. This true of all the staff we met on our three night stay. The bedrooms were more than satisfactory, comfortable beds and the restaurant - a mixture of traditional pub grub and a selection of dishes which were interesting, tasty and a delight - was worthy of the rosettes it had been awarded. The same was true of breakfast. Lovely bar and comfortable sitting areas. Would certainly contemplate another visit, so friendly, comfortable and easy going.

Third time we have stayed here and it certainly won't be our last. Room was lovely. We ate at the restaurant twice and bith times the meals were excellent. Breakfast set us up for the day. Can't fault any of the staff - all so friendly and helpful. We totally recommend this hotel and will definitely be staying there again.

"Excellent, just one downfall"

13/10/2017

The hotel was perfect, the service and food was perfect, the only thing that put a negative on my stay was the bright light shining into my room from the ground outside making my room light all night. Otherwise would have been 10/10.

My wife and I took advantage of a special Sunday Sleepover deal on our way home from holidaying in France. It was a lovely end to the holiday because everything about it was good The warm welcome, the very pleasant staff the dinner and the breakfast. The bedroom, although on the small side, was clean comfortable and quiet. The whole package was great value for money The village of Wroxham is idyllic and we intend returning to this hotel at a different time of year and staying for more than one night. .

We stayed for three nights. We loved our room number 2 a superior double room. With a doorbell and stairs to the room itself. You should be able to climb stairs for this room, if you can it is a great room. Very friendly staff. Great Breakfast. Room was clean. Close to Banbury, Oxford and Blenheim Palace.

i stayed one night and enjoyed my stay . room was surprisingly good considering this is a 3 star hotel . staff are friendly but the real star of this hotel is the restaurant . our evening meal was simply excellent and i guess 8 people getting a range of dishes cant all be wrong . breakfast again was really good and cooked to order . the only problem i had was finding the hotel entrance from the car park on a dark rainy night .......i couple of signs would not go amiss .overall a pleasant experience and would stay again if in the area

What a disappointment. Booked here for a one night stay and will not return. Restaurant soulless, without character and food was without doubt some of the worst we have ever eaten - overdone lamb and dry and tough chicken. We requested afternoon tea on arrival to be told that scones had to be ordered 48 hours in advance (?!) Our "executive" room was tiny and even worse, dusty - room service breakfast was uninspiring. We requested a slightly later check out time as 10.30 on a Sunday morning was too early and did not fit in with our onward journey - staff would only agree to 11am and at 10.55 the phone in our room rang constantly to check that we were indeed leaving. Would most definitely NOT recommend!

Gill S, Owner at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I was incredibly disappointed to read your review we don't want anyone to leave the hotel unhappy and as you can see from the reviews below the vast majority of guests who stay with us love the hotel, the location, the food and in particular the team. If only you had told us during dinner that you were unhappy with your meal as like everyone we do occasionally make mistakes but given the opportunity we would have endeavoured to put things right. With regard to afternoon teas we do ask that they are booked the day before as we bake everything fresh in the morning. I really do hope that you will give us another chance but appreciate that we can't be the right fit for everyone. Kind regards, Gill Smith

"An excellent overall experience"

25/09/2017

After a three night break our opinion is that this hotel is outstanding. In particular, the staff are without exception: friendly;helpful;efficient and effective. This contributed to a feeling of easy comfort as a guest. Our executive room was of a good size and spotlessly clean. In particular, the bed was excellent contributing to a fine sleep experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the food in the restaurant, which offered a menu with innovation and quality. The amuse bouche prior to the starter course were a work of culinary art. More traditional bar meals were available as an alternative to formal dining. Architecturally, we liked the open plan style of the comfortable guest lounges and conservatory which had a modern, unfussy style. The location of the hotel is very good for a number of leisure activities including relatively short drives to National Trust properties and cultural centres such as Stratford upon Avon. We enjoyed locally walking through the village to Wroxton Manor, the grounds of which were open to public walking. Finally, plenty of good car parking space makes life easy. We hope to return in the near future.

We recently spent a weekend here with the family to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and I couldn't praise it more highly. From time of booking to time of leaving the lovely staff couldn't do enough to make our stay perfect. Although they were very busy with other functions we were made to feel special and well looked after. This was our second visit and it certainly won't be our last. The hotel itself is in a lovely location and the rooms are individual and very comfortable. The food is of outstanding quality and the service is friendly and absolutely professional.

Its going to be my hotel of choice when working in Banbury.

"Disappointed with room move."

4
12/09/2017

The hotel is ideally situated in the small village of Wroxton. It has ample parking at the side and rear of the hotel, and adequate front gardens. I am disabled and had requested a ground floor room and had stated that I have problems with stairs, and upon check in was told we have allocated you room 20 but you will have to move to another ground floor room after the first day. We thought that this was inconvenient but the receptionist assured us they would carry our luggage to the new room and it would cause minimum fuss, so we agreed. Room 20 was perfect as it was down a long corridor, was very quiet, and gave us access to the rear fire door which we were told we could use to get to the car park. It also had a walk in shower, and was of a good size. The next day we went out and came back to be told our new room was Number 24 so we got the keys and went in. We both were immediately unhappy with the new room. It was smaller in size, and quite dark. so we drew back the curtains and opened the windows only to find three staff members from the kitchen stood outside, smoking and talking. From where I was sat, they could see me and I could see them which I felt really encroached on our privacy. As I have stated previously I cannot do stairs but when I went into the bathroom I found that to have a shower I had to climb over the side of the bath which for me was impossible. Totally dissatisfied I went to reception and complained only to be told that there were no more rooms as the hotel was full. I made my displeasure known and soon after received a knock on my door to find one of the management team called Stuart standing there. He asked to come in and spent some time trying to resolve our problem but in truth was hindered by the fact that there was no other room to offer me. I pointed out that upon arrival it was clear to anyone with the tiniest bit of common sense that I had limited mobility and allocating us a new room without a walk in shower was pretty stupid, however he basically said it was my fault because we had only said I could not do stairs, and had made no mention of my other movement restrictions when booking. That evening as we were now next to the main function room we were kept awake until gone 1am with the noise of music, and guests partying. One of them even fell into our door at about 12.30am. The following day I noticed that Stuart was conspicuous by his absence, as I was hoping he would ask me how we slept in the room that he had promised would be quiet after 12 midnight. Anyway to summarize this is a nice hotel, with pleasant staff, and good food, but just make certain that if there is any sort of party being held in the function room that you do not get room 24. This room allocation really ruined our long weekend away, and I cannot understand it was not given to one of the guests that were attending the function room party in the first place ! Hardly rocket science is it !!

Gill S, Owner at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Geronimo Thank you for leaving a review and giving me an opportunity to clarify the situation for other members of the Tripadvisor community. Your original reservation was for 2 nights arriving on a Saturday. You then called on the Thursday to move your arrival to the Friday, adding an extra night. As you said, when you arrived we could see that you had limited mobility and whilst we had originally allocated you a room in the original part of the house, at the opposite end of the hotel to the music on Saturday, because as you quite rightly pointed out, 'it isn't rocket science'. You preferred a ground floor room all of which are in the new wing and whilst we could offer you a room with a walk in shower it was only available your first night and that you would have to move for the last two nights. This you agreed to, I'm therefore, really disappointed that you didn't feel that we made every effort to accommodate you when we became aware, upon arrival, of your mobility issues. I would stress the importance of discussing all mobility limitations or dietary requirements when booking to give us the opportunity to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Regards, Gill Smith

We stayed at Best Western Wroxton House Hotel for three nights. Every aspect of our stay was outstanding. The receptionist was very welcoming and assisted with our luggage. She also did some research on local attractions for us. The ambience of the bar and reception area was tasteful and relaxing. Staff were attentive but unobtrusive - just the way it should be! The dining experience was superb. The meals were cooked to perfection. My partner's chicken marinated in Speckled Hen Ale was the best he had ever eaten!! Food allergies were well catered for. Wine list, whilst not extensive, had an interesting selection of international wines. Breakfast was also delicious and well presented. This hotel is worth experiencing. Whilst we could not frequently visit due to distance, we would highly recommend it and will certainly stay if we are in England again. Congratulations to all staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

Stayed here for the MotoGP last weekend. Superb hotel. Great food, biker friendly staff and comfy rooms. Just 30 minutes mins on brilliant back road (for bikes) to Silverstone, end up on the A43 two stops from the Silverstone roundabout. They let you park the bikes out the front of the hotel on hard standing, no lugging the panniers across a car park. Full English with all the trimmings was a good deal at twelve quid, nothing was too much trouble, even asked about auto-splitting the dinner bills between the three couples before we did. All in all a great couple of nights stay and will be booking again for next years MotoGP, but good for any event at Silverstone.

Delighted you enjoyed your recent stay with us, we are ideal for Silverstone and for motor enthusiasts visiting the British Motor museum at Gaydon. Look forward to welcoming you again next year. Regards, Gill

"Lovely afternoon tea"

29/08/2017

We are local to the area and visited Wroxton House Hotel for afternoon tea on the August Bank Holiday Monday. We decided to have a family get together and were looking for somewhere for afternoon tea that was not too far away and also not too pricey! After much research on-line I chose the Wroxton House Hotel. I telephoned to enquire availability and run through the menu and booked a table. It was a beautiful day and we arrived to be seated in the conservatory in the front of the hotel. Although a really hot day the front doors were open and lovely breeze was drifting through. We were welcomed and served immediately and the staff were both friendly and polite. They offered us cold drinks prior to our tea/coffee if we so wished. The tea arrived and consisted of lovely home made sandwiches which were nice and fresh with a choice of smoked salmon, ham and tomato and cheese and pickle. The selection of cakes was excellent comprising of scone with clotted cream and home made jam, an éclair, Victoria sponge finger and a lovely lemon posset in a shot glass. There was certainly plenty to go around. The tea and coffee was also very nice with top ups given. Even my mum liked the coffee which doesn't happen very often!! All in all we had a lovely relaxing afternoon in very pleasant surroundings. We topped the afternoon off with a walk around the College grounds, the perfect end to a lovely afternoon. We would definitely recommend coming here for afternoon tea. Lovely surroundings, lovely tea and friends staff, also very reasonably priced!

What better way to spend the afternoon than with with friends and family over a scone and bottomless cup of tea! Visited the Wroxton House for Sunday lunch recently. The food and service were both excellent. As Sunday lunches go this is way up there with the best I have had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in need of a high quality Sunday lunch in the Banbury area.

We love the tradition of getting the family together for Sunday lunch. With the added bonus of someone else doing the cooking and no dishes after, whats not to like! Best wishes, Emma

Thoroughly enjoyable and the quality of the room in was excellent in both facilities and service. We found it an excellent hotel and would recommend it for overall service, value for money and location.

The hotel is very handy for the M40 in a beautiful village near Banbury. The hotel is very well maintained and is run by a friendly couple.Who obviously expect high standards of customer care. The food was excellent and had excellent presentation. The car park is very large with plenty of room for lots of cars.Would certainly return to this hotel if we were in the area and recommend to our friends. There is no lift so people with mobility problems should request a low floor room.

Just a mile or two out of town this Inn is a beautiful country getaway. The rooms are modern and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and engaging, one even researched out some options for the later part of our trip we hadn't settled on yet! The breakfast was varied and tasty and the dinner menu, while small was good as well. The staff really did an outstanding job, several of us came in after 1am one night from an event and the Inn made sure they had a night manager on duty to take care of any needs (drinks, food, etc.), well done!

"Clean & comfortable.Excellent Staff. Plumbing needs attention."

Stayed here recently for one night. Excellent Staff. All areas of hotel very clean. Food excellent. We enjoyed both dinner & breakfast which was cooked to order. We had a superior room which was quite spacious , clean & comfortable. Only downside was the plumbing. Loo had very little power in the flush. The shower in the separate cubicle stopped mid way through my Wife's shower. She ended up having a bath. The shower eventually started again but was very intermittent. If it was not for this we would have given a 5 star rating. Traffic on road outside starts very early in the morning.

On the second weekend of August every year, people from all over the UK and the world descend on the villages around Cropredy for Fairport Convention's annual festival. Whilst many camp, there are quite a few of us who opt for cosy beds, hot showers and indoor plumbing. We were among the comfort seekers, thus we found ourselves At Wroxton House Hotel. And I'm very glad we did. The core building is old - from the 1600s if I'm not mistaken. There have been wings added in the last few years but the style has been maintained and the additions blend in very well. We stayed in one of the wings in a standard double room and were very comfortable. The reception staff were charming. They were friendly and helpful (and make a mean G&T - there's a good gin selection as well). The room was (by British standards) large and the bed comfortable. Unusually, the bathroom is on an outside wall so actually has a window - I like this because it means when you need the loo in the middle of the night you don't have to turn lights on. The reception area is light and airy - a real pleasure to spend time in. The bar is at the back and is reasonably well stocked (though I don't recall whether there was any ale - I fancied a G&T so that's what I had). There were just two minor quibbles that, for me, made this four stars rather than five. The plumbing was...quirky. Again, unusually for a hotel, the bathroom had a bath with a shower in it - the shower was not especially powerful and had a habit of heating up or cooling down, probably in response to other people using water. There were also times you could hear the creak of the water pipes. I'd expect this in the old part of the hotel, it was a little surprising in the new. Breakfast was tasty but it was a buffet. For the price, I'd have preferred to have a freshly cooked breakfast. The sausages were excellent while the bacon was a bit tough. The scrambled eggs were fine for me though my partner found them a bit watery. Still, these are minor quibbles. If I am lucky enough to go to Cropredy again next year, this will be my first choice hotel.

We spent two nights at this hotel and loved it. The hotel was beautiful and the staff so welcoming. We had guests for dinner who were very impressed. Food was outstanding and the wine reasonably priced. Service was excellent. It would be hard to find any fault.

Over two day outdoor event, arrived late after motorway flat tyre! Welcoming staff were very helpful even at very late arrival. Wedding function could have been a problem on Saturday night but incredibly comfortable bed and physically tired solved this and had no impact. Great food and excellent table service, well done all smiling staff!

Our room was clean, tidy & well presented with a lovely comfortable bed. Despite being on a main road, there was very little road traffic noise, especially evenings and week ends. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent, something for all tastes. Most importantly it was the staff that made our stay so enjoyable. We enjoyed ourselves so much we have booked again for next year.

Have stayed here several times before. Whenever we are in the area we always look to stay here first before anywhere else. This year we booked a very good value rate on Best Western website which included breakfast. On arrival we thought the entrance lobby had been freshly decorated, if not it was certainly looking pristine. The young lady on reception was most friendly and welcoming, and efficient. Our room was spotlessly clean as always, with everything as it should be. Wi-fi fine also. We had arrived a little later than we planned so headed straight down to the bar for several drinks and something to eat. The food at this hotel is particularly good. My wife had Fish & Chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce @ £14.50, I picked 8oz Rump Steak, garlic mushroom, tomato, chips @ £21.00. I'm guessing the chef has changed possibly as the presentation and the menu descriptions are different than last visit, but the food was still excellent, piping hot and good value. The staff in the bar are worth a mention - all of them were so nice. After sleeping well we went down early for breakfast, we were greeted by a really charming young lady with a possible hint of South African accent, not so good with accents so apologies, but she made breakfast very pleasant. Similarly to the evening food, the cooked English breakfasts were really good, with plenty of other choices available, along with coffee, fruit juices etc. Very good value. So that's that, another great stay at Wroxton House, final mention has to be a bit of praise for the lady on reception that checked us out, we have met her before and she's always so friendly - definitely makes you want to return. Its well worth booking the special rates including breakfast if you can. The rates do vary quite a bit with supply and demand, this year we attended the British Grand Prix for Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, but we only stayed at Wroxton House for the Thursday night because the other nights were far more expensive - which is fair enough. The next hotel we stayed at wasn't anything like as nice and the food was awful so you get what you pay for ! When there isn't an F1 race or special event on the rates at Wroxton House are always very reasonable otherwise. Thank you.

Very nice hotel in the country. Room was large as well as the bed, both very comfortable. Restaurant and food very good. Meeting room had everything and again very comfortable with a nice view to the enclosed garden. Service was good and staff friendly. Ample parking on the hotel grounds. Internet had some issues but staff resolved quickly. Telephone reception on mobile phones could be a problem depending on your service provider. Overall very nice place.

Our two night stay at Wroxton house was a fantastic experience, staff very freindly and food was first class. Our room was well presented and very comfortable. This hotel was ideally located for our mini break to the Cotswolds with plenty to see and do within half an hours drive. We would highly recommend and look forward to returning in the future.

"Very disappointed - I will NOT be going back EVER"

23/07/2017

I returned to Wroxton House after a very enjoyable stay summer 2016. However, things are not as they were/should be, and I had to leave mid-stay and I definitely will NOT be returning. The toilet didn't flush properly and the shower was a dribble - theses were reported at checkin but nothing done. The over-bath shower is almost unusable as they've put the most enormous grab-handle in the way - which I kept bumping my elbow on! Yes, they argued essential for H&S but really.. THAT BIG? The food was excellent 2016, but this year my English breakfast was inedible as it was swimming in sour tasting vinegar water from the poached eggs - disgusting! The burger was just tough and the vegetable pasta very bland. The two rooms I have stayed in are extremely hot - yes a small fan is supplied but not effective! The final straw was when I ended up being reduced to tears by an extremely over-bearing, rude, aggressive and intimidating male manager, who called me a liar! I was put in a room the furthest away from reception, however, as I had a bad back and was traveling with a very small dog (who had to stay in the back of my car as I adhered to their very strict NO DOGS ANYWHERE ON THE PROPERTY rules). I asked on check if I could be moved closer to the exit/entrance. However, as full they could not accommodate my request - understandable. As my room was next to the fire exit I was informed I could use the stairs and door to the car park during the daytime. At night (after 10pm) I had to use the main exit but on the first night when I let my dog out I was left locked out of the hotel for 20 mins as the rude night porter who was no where to be found blamed me - said I was over exaggerating. I was not happy! Later in the week the same night porter 'caught' me using the fire exit and stairs (unlocked and open) and reported me to the manager who banged on my door at 10,30pm to shout at me saying I can use the fire exit stairs but not go out the door (open!) I had to go all the way through the downstairs of the hotel and out the front entrance!!! When I said I'd been granted permission by the day staff his response was "I find that highly unlikely".....! This all just after I'd spent 2 hours on a work call, was trying to let my dog out and get back in to speak to my business parter husband. I don't think I've been so repremanded since I left school and called a liar.. rude, rude, rude.. not the best diplomatic relations at all. I packed up and left the place at 11pm as the atmosphere was appalling, and I felt very uncomfortable and somewhat frightened of the sinister night porter. This is a lovely hotel with 'some' nice but small rooms and overall the majority of their young team are very approachable and friendly but a couple are not, so it's not without its flaws and certainly not my choice for a relaxing stay away or a business trip. Shame!

Gill S, Owner at Best Western Plus Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I am disappointed to read your review and that you have failed to mention the reason the manager knocked on your door at 10pm at night was because the night manager had seen you take your dog into the bedroom with you. As you were aware when booking with us we do not allow dogs, other than guide dogs or assistance dogs into the hotel. Best wishes, Emma

Stayed for a weekend as part of my husband's 40th birthday present to the F1 British Grand Prix. On arriving the staff immediately made us feel welcome and asked us about our day. We made a reservation for dinner that evening, and again the staff were friendly and we were very well looked after throughout the evening, from the drinks in the bar to the after dinner coffee in the lounge. Food was delicious too!! Decided to eat there on the second night too and we're not disappointed. Room was clean with plenty of fresh towels and toiletries in the bathroom. Adequate choice of tea, coffee, biscuits in the room, and a very comfy bed! Made our first trip to the Grand Prix a very memorable one!

We were a party of 15 family & friends staying for a combination of two night breaks following our daughter's wedding. Our booking was complicated from the start with one family booking from Australia and plenty of changes to room allocation. We were consistently treated with courtesy, patience and every attempt to accommodate our needs. Most of us booked in at about 1.00am to be received with polite efficiency by the night porter. The rooms were uniformly excellent, including some with real charm and originality in the original thatched buildings. The whole hotel is tastefully furnished and all the rooms had excellent amenities and were spotlessly clean and comfortable. The next morning we came down to breakfast to be informed that the hotel had, without prompting, arranged a separate room for our party to have breakfast together. This was so thoughtful and really added an extra special dimension to a rare family get-together. The breakfast was also superb!! For our evening meal there was much debate within the family about whether we should eat in the Orangery or restaurant. The restaurant manager, who had already been so helpful about breakfast, enabled us to dine in the restaurant but also order from the lounge menu which satisfied a wide range of dietary choices! There was also consideration for our youngest nephew who is coeliac. The food was excellent and the service unobtrusively superb. Another great breakfast on Monday morning with the staff patiently dealing with a variety of requests from our sometimes demanding party. We checked out, explored the near-by village and university grounds (hidden gems not to be missed) and decided to return to the hotel for coffee, again presenting a wide range of requests which were met with quietly courteous efficiency. In summary, we cannot speak highly enough of the excellence of the facilities and, most importantly, the quality and the personal nature of the service we received. Highly recommended, Thank you so much. You made a special weekend memorable.

I seldom write reviews for 'work' hotels, but I really enjoyed it here. Great staff with personality, who all remembered my name and freely participated in a friendly chat. Brilliant service, gorgeous food, lovely room and hotel. The variety of sandwiches was very good and it was lovely to have a variation on the cakes. The scones were light and delicious, the homemade raspberry jam fabulous. We would return and do it all again any time.

"Well worth a second visit"

03/07/2017

We stayed here two years ago and as there is so much to do in the area, decided to have a three night break in June. We are so glad we did. The warm welcome and the fact that you are shown to your room on arrival sets the tone for your stay. Our room was a standard double, on the ground floor and was perfect with an iron and board, tea, coffee etc and a nice bathroom. The only (very) slight fault I could find was that the safe was on the top shelf in the wardrobe and was difficult to access. The housekeeping was second to none, with shower gel, soap, shower caps being replaced daily. There are relaxing seating areas outside and in the lovely conservatory as well as comfy chairs in the lounge and bar. We had intended to eat in for only two of our three nights, but after our first meal we decided to eat in each night, the food was so good. The menu was not extensive, but there was enough to choose from so that we had something different each night and everything we ate was delicious. The hotel is so convenient for a variety of interesting places that we are already planning another visit.

"Charm and attention to detail"

Pretty village setting, ample off street parking and a charming, professional and detail orientated hotel with attractive updated decor throughout and a very helpful, friendly and professional hotel team. Our room was a large room in the old thatched part of the hotel and was really nice - super soft cloud like bed, nice neutral decor and plenty of complimentary home comforts. The rooms in the thatched old building have quirk and charm (eaves, beams and lower ceilings) but if you prefer a more standard offering there are also rooms in a modern wing. All in all a great find and lovely weekend stay.

Many years have passed since we last stayed here and it's lost none of its charm. The upgrades and expansion have been superbly and sympathetically executed. The rooms were inviting and the meals excellent, though a little on the light side for my hungry husband. We'll definitely be back!

We recently stayed at this hotel- from start to finish every detail was perfect. The thing that stood out for us was that every member of hotel staff was so polite and welcoming. Nothing was too much, and every request was met with a smile. The room itself was lovely...comfy bed, 100% clean, nice and quiet. The food was fantastic- both breakfast and evening meals. We stayed at this beautiful hotel just for one night while attending a local wedding. All the staff were welcoming and helpful, the hotel is beautifully decorated and styled, breakfast was excellent and everywhere was immaculately clean. The local village is lovely with typical chocolate box thatched cottages and a duck pond! We would definitely recommend this hotel and would very happily stay there again. The only reasons I didn't give 5 stars is due to a couple of small room issues which I have detailed on Room Tips as these are things which can be sorted at the time of booking if you know about them!

We had requested an easily accessible room for my disabled husband and were able to park directly outside the hotel (with our blue badge) which was a relief. The receptionist was very welcoming and carried our suitcase to our door without being asked. Our room was lovely, very stylish and clean. Excellent wifi connection & TV. Good selection of drinks but a fridge would have been useful too. Decent hairdryer too, always appreciated! Our room was very peaceful at night, which was impressive to say we were on the main corridor and opposite a busyish main road. The bathroom was very clean and smart too. (My only criticism would be the coloured in red and blue on the shower controls!) Lovely toiletries. Some robes and slippers would have been good. The restaurant was excellent. We had requested an easily accessible table which we got and had advised the hotel in advance of our dietary requirements which were met with very little fuss. The food was delicious and the staff were all so helpul and friendly. Breakfast was great too, again our dietary requirements were met very well. The lovely waitress even brought our hot food to our table without being asked which saved my husband struggling and gave me a rest too. After we had checked out we sat and read the paper in the conservatory, we felt so relaxed we didn't want to leave! Thank you so much to all the staff for your warm welcome and excellent service, we'll be back!

Thank you to The Best Western Wroxton for such a perfect, much needed break from our busy lives. I have never stayed in a Best Western, but will most definitely seek one out again. From the moment we arrived, driving in, it felt the grounds, and hotel had had much time, money, and designer detail spent on it. There was ample parking, all very close to the main entrance. The receptionist, Betty I believe, was welcoming, friendly, and extremely helpful. We were shown to our room, and wow-what a beautiful room it was! It was spotlessly clean (carpet too) and had clearly been uniquely designed. We could not have wished for more-great value. We went down to the bar, where we were greeted with the charismatic, happy, engaging barman David. Nothing was too much trouble-he really made us feel welcome (and giggle!). At dinner we were served by the lovely Laura, who again, was engaging, happy, and a real pleasure to be around. The food was delicious, and beautifully presented. The decor in the restaurant, as in the entire hotel, was stunning. This is not a hotel that has scrimped in any detail/area. We have already booked to bring our grown up children back in August-and absolutely cannot wait! Thank you again for a perfect stay. An excellent hotel isn't just the surroundings, it's the staff, and you really have a fine team there!

I tend to travel down to Banbury a lot when visiting clients or going to events and I usually stay at this hotel. The rooms are great - especially in the associated cottage - and have good facilities that you can use. We ended up at this hotel by default and it ended up being a perfect break. The staff were faultless from the moment we arrived, nothing was too much trouble, the food exquisite and the ambiance delightful. Clearly the hotel had recently be lovingly refurbished to a high standard creating and atmosphere of calm. Our room was small but full of character and our only regret was that we had to come home!

My wife and I stayed here with family on the weekend of the 20th/21st May. It was our first visit and was for our 40th wedding anniversary. What can I say - 10 out of 10. The hotel is lovely with tasteful décor, set in the charming thatched village of Wroxton. The staff and service was superb, The food was fabulous. The village is worth a visit with an old church and a spectacular house with an abbey. The grounds were beautiful. We will be coming back again!

Stayed here for just one night on way to a cruise and I certainly selected the right place. Lovely style of hotel with great staff especially the mature lady at reception who was so friendly and of great help. Elegant lounge and modern rooms all very clean. The hotel is part thatched as is most of the village and to be honest the village in one of the best I have seen anywhere. Close location to Banbury (2 miles) if you need more to do. Only problem we had was the rediculously small bed in room 1 which as a double room was a let down. Nearly fell out of it twice ! We will visit again but not to a small bed room. The pub across the road does great value food and to be honest the hotel food is a bit over priced.

"A lovely place for a luxurious, relaxing break"

03/05/2017

We stayed here for a week in April following a shorter stay 18 months ago. We had a double room in the new wing. The room was spotless clean, spacious, comfortable, well equipped and quiet. Plenty of space for clothes and luggage, and lots of plugs for phone chargers, hairdryers etc. Nice view overlooking the small garden at the front of the hotel. The staff were all very friendly indeed, and nothing was too much trouble for them. They really made you feel like a welcome guest rather than a casual customer passing through. They always had time for a talk about where you had been, and where you were planning to go next. The 1649 restaurant was excellent. We didn't book dinner with the room, as we thought we might eat elsewhere depending on where we visited during the day, but in the end we ate at 1649 every night. Very well presented food a distinct cut above the usual hotel restaurant level, served with a smile and as often as not a short chat. The menu didn't have a vast number of dishes, and these didn't change during our stay (other than the soup of the day and the "amuse bouche"), but many were worth trying more than once and there was also the bar menu to chose from. I'd rather they concentrate on doing a few things very well than try to do lots of things to a lower standard. There is a lovely lounge, and we made good use of if for a pre-dinner drink while we chose from the menu, and to have a coffee afterwards. You are welcome to stay there all day if you wanted to. Breakfasts were also very good, and set us up nicely for the whole day. The location was great for exploring the area, Blenheim Palace and Waddesdon Manor are in easy reach, and Oxford is a short train ride from Banbury. The grounds of Wroxton Abbey (literally down the road) are well worth a visit. Pick your routes with a little care, and the roads are very quiet. All in all, we had a lovely, relaxing luxurious stay, and a big thank you to all the staff who made it so special. Very highly recommended.

What a wonderful review, thank you for taking the time to leave your comments. There is so much to do in this area that a week can easily fly by! Especially at this time of year there are some stunning gardens locally, some wonderful cake to be eaten in cafes in the Cotswolds and I heard a rumour the decor at Bicester Village is beautiful at the moment.....but you didn't hear that from me! Best wishes, Emma

"Lovely Hotel,Ideal for a meeting place for lunch for family to meet up from North Staffordshie , and Surrey"

Lovely Building, very quaint in a village of very pretty thatched roofed properties. Perfect for our family meeting. All staff were very friendly and also very efficient. They made us feel very welcome, and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble for them. However I have to say that the Sunday lunch roast beef that I ordered could have been better. The beef perfectly cooked was sadly full of fat, many people would not mind this but I do. The roast potatoes were obviously pre cooked and warmed and the Yorkshire Pudding was a bit dry But having said that no one else complained. So maybe just me.The table that was set for us couldn't have been better for our needs so well done on that. We also had a very enjoyable bar snack on Sunday evening, and enjoyed our full English breakfast during our stay. On Monday evening we chose yet again to eat in the hotel , and it was very good I had grilled sea bass with crushed potatoes, the fish was brilliant and so were the potatoes, but sadly that was it, not even a few carrot sticks or a little broccoli, could have been so much better with a little, thought .However the overall ambience of the hotel was superb. Thank you. .

We stayed here for one night while in the area. The hotel is very easy to find. Check-in was very friendly and efficient. We liked the layout of the hotel: airy and with plenty of places to sit, chat and enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of tea. The rooms are relatively spacious, very comfortable with a large bathroom. TV was modern, with plenty of cable channels. Worthy of a special mention is the staff. We had car problems while we were there and they not only did everything they could to help us; they checked in on us several times, to ensure we were ok. The breakfast was good, with both buffet and cooked breakfasts offered. In addition to the traditional 'Full English', they provided some alternatives, such as chopped avocado and poached eggs on bagel! Very nice! We liked this hotel and, especially, the staff very much and would not hesitate to return.

Wonderful to hear from you, I am assuming this means after hours with the AA you made it home safe and sound! Best wishes, Emma

Great experience, charming village and excellent if all you want is peace and quiet. The staff were all excellent and couldn't be any more helpful. The food was excellent and the ambience in the restaurant did not feel like an hotel one but a very good bistro restaurant. Choice of food was perfect. I have never stayed in an hotel this clean, it was spotless, full marks to the housekeeping team and the management. The room was well proportioned and very cosy with all amenities which we required. very well positioned for exploring Oxfordshire. The Orangery entrance is an inspiration and a very good setting for afternoon tea.

We have stayed at Wroxton house hotel about three times now and just gets better and better. All the staff make you feel very welcome and will go out their way to make your stay pleasurable. Also the food and the choice on the menu was excellent. The other convenience of staying here is its only about 30 minutes away from Stratford Upon Avon to.

24/04/2017

Have never left a review before but felt this deserves one . From arriving to departure the service received was excellent , everyone was so pleasant , and obviously took pride in their job. We stayed in room 2 which was perfect on a 2 night summer escape package. The meals in the restaurant were first class along with the staff ,It was lovely to see the younger members of staff chatting with the guests not something you unfortunately don't see a lot of these days. There was nothing to fault the hotel on and we would definitely return to this hotel in the future, something we don't normally do.

19/04/2017

We have visited this hotel on a number of occasions and it never lets us down. It's in a lovely, quiet, village location, but there is plenty to do nearby. We travelled out to Bletchley Park, which was only a 50 minute drive and a great day out. The room we were given was lovely, tastefully decorated and comfortable. The service at the hotel was excellent, everyone so friendly and helpful. We were on a two night stay and had the evening meal both nights. The food was delicious, there was nothing to fault. The only problem was not being there enough nights to sample the whole menu! Still, a good excuse to go back...

The hotel would be a 10 star for friendly helpful staff!!! Everyone so helpful and lovely. We enjoyed ourselves and its just a shame it was only for one night!! The breakfast was cooked perfectly and very tasty.

"Excellent venue for special birthday weekend"

5
10/04/2017

We selected this superb hotel, located in a beautiful North Cotswold village, for a special birthday celebration spread over two days. We comprised 10 adults and 5 youngsters travelling from across England so the central location was a key factor in our selection. The staff were exceptionally helpful in planning the accommodation and catering. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped, and we were provided with a dedicated lounge as well as a private dining room. The Chef and catering staff coped admirably with the three generations and special dietary requirements. The breakfast and dinner menus were varied and delicious. Fortunately the adjacent grounds of Wroxton Abbey, and a 3.3 mile circular walk to North Newington and back, helped stimulate the appetite! Upton House and Gardens are also nearby.

"A lovely hotel"

08/04/2017

We have just returned from a two night break at Wroxton House and cannot praise it enough. We had a lovely room complete with balcony, the bathroom had a walk in shower as well as a huge bath. There was nothing to complain about, the service we received from all of the staff was exemplary, they were friendly and very helpful with regard to places to visit in the area. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was amazing. It was beautifully presented and worthy of its two rosettes. Special mention must go to the All things lime dessert, a perfect ending to any dinner. Breakfast was also superb and plenty of choice was available. We will definitely be staying there again.

"Perfect for a quiet weekend"

Hotel had everything we needed. Peace & quiet was our priority & was found here. Lovely room, excellent food (both evening meal & breakfast). Staff really helpful gave us directions & walking around the village was a delight. After the pretty thatched cottages & Duck pond were viewed, we walked around the lovely grounds of the local Manor House. A real country village which made our weekend wonderful.

26/03/2017

We stayed for the weekend and straight from the start when we were greeted by a warm welcome from the receptionist from there all the staff were friendly and attentive. We had our breakfast and two evening meals in the hotel which was all delicious. One waitress in particular was very friendly and happy to offer advice on what to do locally. The rooms were all very clean and comfortable and it's in a nice location. Literally can't think of anything that could be improved. It was a lovely stay & we would definitely visit again.

"Really good food. Friendly staff."

26/03/2017

Stayed here for one night whilst on a stop over in the area. Staff are very good, all appeared to be in good spirits which suggests this is a decent place to work, which is something I always like to see. The facilities are good, clearly well maintained (recently refurbished?) although the bath in my room was a bit uncomfortable to stand and have a shower in as it was a bit narrow compared to my large leg gait! Food was a real highlight: I had three courses in the restaurant in the evening (pork belly, beef, banoffee) and they were all perfectly cooked and impeccably presented.

27/11/2016

Spent 1 night at this lovely property in the village of Wroxton. Room was comfortable and clean with tea and coffee making facilities and free toiletries. Very good food - ate from the lounge menu in the evening and a full English breakfast was included in our room price the next morning. But the best thing about this hotel is the staff - every staff member we came into contact with was professional and charming. Will definitely make a return visit.

"Limited on Mondays"

24/11/2016

We needed a a place to eat a family lunch near Banbury on a Monday and Wroxton House seemed the best choice. The helpful receptionist warned me on the phone that the Lounge Bar menu only would be available at Monday lunchtime which was disappointing but at least it wasn't closed, like many! We were given a very friendly welcome and our table was in a spacious, comfortable alcove, just right for a family catch-up. The Starters were all excellent, particularly the prawn salad. The Mains we chose were quite boring, fish and chips pronounced alright, beefburgers too but the mushroom and spinach tagliatelle I had was tasteless and not a success. The bits of spinach were hard. I am not a vegetarian so perhaps chose the wrong dish. We were all too full for a pudding, which was a shame, as they looked tempting. Coffee was good and chocolates came with it. The food was all well presented. If I were in the Banbury area again I would certainly try the restaurant menu. The hotel generally seemed well run and a pleasant place to be.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review after your recent lunch with us. We do offer a Lounge Menu during the week and our restaurant is open every Sunday for a traditional lunch priced at £24.95 for 3 courses and coffee which is always popular. Hopefully we will see you again. Kind regards, Gill

17/11/2016

My husband and I received a lovely warm welcome when we arrived on Monday 14 November. The staff at the hotel were really friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was really comfortable and extremely clean. We had dinner at the hotel and we couldn't fault it at all. I had the smoked eel to start with followed by the beef (which just melted in my mouth as I ate it) and the apple desert which was scrummy. Breakfast the next morning was just as nice. We will definitely be staying at this hotel again.

09/11/2016

Stayed one night on my own. Impressive level of service, staff made me feel welcome and clearly cared about their guests. Check in was swift friendly and efficient, hotel nicely decorated and very clean. Good sized room, immaculately clean, temperatures spot on. Evening meal in lounge bar, lovely food and good service. Only two little niggles, which I didn't mention whilst staying. The plumbing gets very noisy next to room 31 whenever someone has a shower! Not great at 5.30am! I also found the pillows to be a bit too firm for me, but that's a personal choice. Definitely recommend this hotel, but perhaps avoid room 31 unless you want to be woken at silly o'clock!

regular visitor due to work. lovely friendly staff, rooms are comfortable, food tastey and location remote but great . can't recommend enough. Best hotel near Banbury, if you don't need to be in town. worth the small drive.

"Accommodation and service very good but food was disappointing"

4
09/11/2016

I have stayed at this hotel several times and the accommodation was very good as always. The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. The service was very good, the staff are very accommodating and go out of their way to try and meet your needs and make your stay enjoyable. In the past the food has been very good but this time it was disappointing. There was a limited selection at breakfast with items previously served which were no longer provided e.g. Fresh bread. There was no variety in the vegetables severed with lunch and dinner each day and the food that was served was not up to the restaurants previous standard.

"Wonderful!"

5
02/11/2016

Wonderful Best Western! Old world charm with a thatched roof. Spotless comfortable room with a large well lit bathroom, friendly and helpful staff. The only negative, I could hear the person next door talking on the phone, after the conversation was finished it was very quiet so no problems sleeping. The restaurant could have had a larger dinner selection however our order was very good and well prepared. Breakfast was good and well prepared also. I would definitely stay here again.

"Wow - what a find!"

02/11/2016

Wroxton House hotel is situated in a village near Banbury. We spent three nights at the hotel last weekend and were extremely well looked after. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Quite why the weird photo wallpaper was chosen for one wall did seem a bit strange. From the moment we arrived the staff were exceptional. Every one was cheerful, friendly, polite, helpful and professional. Dinner choices were good. Meals were lovingly prepared and presented - with service that was spot on! A minor disappointment was the absence of the 'cooked to order' breakfast we had enjoyed on the Friday (smoked haddock & poach eggs, delish) as on Saturday and Sunday morning a buffet table was set up in the restaurant, which made the meal a wee bit ordinary. We greatly enjoyed our visit to Upton House (NT property) nearby, Blenheim Palace and a wander into Banbury to see a fine lady on a white horse of course. Thank you to everyone at Wroxton House for a splendid stay - we will return again next summer to see the village and gardens in bloom.

"Excellent customer service"

5
02/11/2016

The staff couldn't possibly have been friendlier, and facilities were more like a 5-star hotel ( than the 3-star it is supposed to be) Would recommend to anyone, They have a new chef, and he attention to details at the breakfasts was impressive. It's on a main road from Banbury to Stratford upon Avon but you cannot hear the traffic.

"Hidden gem just outside Banbury"

01/11/2016

First impressions are v important , and the gracious reception we received from Laura was outstanding. She helped to carry our gear up to Room 9 which turned out to be the Bridal suite ! Needless to say the room was perfect in every respect. I was temporarily disabled after e recent knee replacement and had requested a walk-in shower which was splendid and the roomy bathroom included a "tub" French windows opened on to a cute little balcony.Bed was emperor size and probably the best my wife and I have ever experieced.Dressing table with huge mirror and good illumination completed the picture. Service in the restaurant was outstanding without being obtrusive.4 course dinner preceeded by charming "Amuse bouche" each evening.Wine list was comprehensive and reasonably priced -- we did enjoy a Chilean Merlot for £19.95 as a good example. Both Maitre Ds were helpful and entertaining -- Marc and Stewart. Hotel located located just 2 miles from Banbury.Location is very handy for Corswolds, Stratford and Bicester Just 2 miles away is Upton Hall home of Lord Bearstead head of Samuels Bank who evacuated Staff to Upton Hall for the duration of the war which ended in 1945 ---- very well worth a visit. The lounge facilities are extensive and luxurious with lots of nooks and crannies -- selection of daily newspapers available. My wife and I will certainly be coming back here -- we will just tell a few close friends about our experience.

Stopped here whilst working in the area. Booked via Best Western central reservations. On arrival was upgraded to the cottage room 15 which was a suite room. The room was modern beautiful decorated and spotlessly clean. Powerful shower good Internet. Excellent food in the bar and breakfast was good. Staff absolutely brilliant nothing is too much trouble. Would highly recommend it and would happily return on business or for pleasure

29/10/2016

I booked this hotel for weekend break for my birthday, I couldn't t have chosen better, from check in with Ryan, a really pleasant guy who made you feel welcome to chatting with Vanessa, who incidentally cleaned my car after it was covered by the local bird population at a park and ride in Oxford, a lovely young lady. Laura another lovely young lady, Marc the mairtra di. What a wonderful group of people, never is this a 3 star hotel, it should be much higher for the staff alone. The evening meal was great, fantastic food at a good price. We will be returning next year for my wife's birthday a hidden gem. Fantastic.

7th stay - but this time very disappointed. Ate in restraunt but felt neglected with a number of issues. Then Uncomfortable bed...2 mattresses pulled together? All seemed so different to previous visits.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I really was disappointed to read your review as we like all our guests to leave here planning their next visit. After discussing your review with the team I believe that you mentioned on check out that your issues were with the restaurant. I understand that you chose to eat from the Lounge Menu and as you had told us, when booking, that it was a special occasion our Food and Beverage Manager asked if you would like to sit in the restaurant. Having chosen from the Lounge Menu you were disappointed that you didn't receive the complimentary items included in our 2 AA Restaurant Menu which is priced at £35 pp This experience includes an amuse bouche, homemade bread and flavoured butters, starter, main, pudding, tea/coffee and fudge. (all these items are available on the Lounge Menu and are individually priced). Many of our larger beds (as in most hotels) are zip and link to offer flexibility and I'm sorry that, on this occasion, despite staying in this room on previous visits that you found it uncomfortable. I do hope that after 6 positive experiences with us in the past you do try us again. Kind regards, Gill.

My granddaughter chose to hold her wedding reception here on Aug bank holiday weekend and she couldn't have chosen a more perfect venue From arriving to leaving the staff were amazing and never stopped looking after us On arrival the heavens opened but in seconds an umbrella was being held over the bride The meal was excellent and the evening entertainment comprising of a live band followed by a dj was brilliant All in all it was just perfect and I would like to thank Margaret and all the staff for giving us a day we will never forget - in fact we want to do it again !!!

"Great dinner"

4
17/10/2016

We really wanted to stay at this place but made a mistake with our booking and stayed at the one in town so we decided that we would have dinner at 1649. The bartender was very friendly and warned us they were having a large party but that was no issue for us. Initially we sat in the restaurant but it was very quiet and stuffy so the waitress happily moved us back in to the bar where we could people watch the Casino Royale party guests. The food was delicious and the place is charming.

"Great Hotel"

17/10/2016

As the title says, great hotel and extremely friendly staff. I was shown to my room and felt very relaxed with the atmosphere there. The room was very nice, bathroom good - water hot instantly etc. Have no problems recommending this hotel at all.

"Good hotel, great staff! "

15/10/2016

We booked this for 1 night dinner and breakfast for my birthday, from start to finish the service was great. The hotel itself is very nice and modern, the rooms are lovely and spacious with very comfortable beds. The food was amazing and full credit to the dark haired gentleman in the restaurant, he had great knowledge of the food and you could tell he really enjoyed his job (properly one of the best customer service experiences we've had) we would definitely recommend this hotel to all people. Only bad point was when I booked this over the phone the lady recommended her favourite room 16 which had good features which I said great and good ahead and book, but on arrival we weren't given this room, still the room we had was great though

"The friendliest hotel we've ever stayed in."

5
09/10/2016

This hotel has won Best Western awards for best small hotel and customer experience and its easy to see why. The hotel is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and the food in the restaurant is outstanding but what makes your stay is the staff, all of whom go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They want to help, to speak to you, to make you feel part of the family. We had a fabulous weekend and re-booked for a December break as we checked out. A special shout to Vanessa who took the stress out of our late arrival on Friday evening. Its a great base for ranging out to Stratford, Banbury, Bicester and the Cotswolds.

"STOP OVER"

5
01/10/2016

We were driving down from the north west to Southampton. We had to be in Southampton just after midday which meant us leaving home very early and hoping the M-ways were without traffic jams. So we decided to have a stop over mid way and leave at a more sensible hour. We chose the Best Western Wroxton House Hotel and are glad with did. We had a warm and friendly welcome from the reception staff and our room was lovely - clean, bright and modern. The hotel is situated in a lovely village and the hotel provided us with a simple map to enable us to explore the village. We did not dine in the hotel however breakfast was very good with plenty of choice if a cooked breakfast is required. Gluten free bread was available for my husband and I enjoyed the best hotel porridge I have ever had. This is a hotel we would return to any day and we highly recommend it.

"Excellent hotel but.."

4
01/10/2016

Suggest you try and avoid room 11 which has only one small window about knee height in one corner with absolutely no outlook and a window in the sloping roof again with no view apart from sky. So somewhat claustrophobic. Also would help if you were less than 6ft tall. No benefit having a Gold Card. This was a pity as in all other respects the hotel is excellent. Food very good and the staff were as friendly, cheerful and helpful as you could find anywhere. Just the room, bearing in mind cost, which stops the hotel getting five stars.

"Superb experience"

29/09/2016

Stayed 1 night on my way to family in Surrey. The reception lady could not do enough for me instantly changing my room to a beautiful double when the single which I was originally given smelled of cigarettes (despite this being a no smoking hotel ).The bar staff were equally welcoming and Wroxton is a delightful tiny village within very easy drive of Banbury. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Parking I is also easy with a very large car park.

"A Charming Country House Hotel"

25/09/2016

We booked this hotel as a stopover to and from the ferry at Portsmouth. Situated in the very picturesque village of Wroxton we arrived to a very warm welcome from the young Scots receptionist which after the traumatic day we'd had was very much appreciated. We were shown to Room 17 which is a stunning large room in the eaves of the old part of the hotel with a lovely large bathroom. We had an excellent night's sleep in the very comfortable bed despite the fact we were at the front of the hotel facing a very busy road. On our return from France 10 days later we received the same warm welcome as our previous visit but on this occasion we were shown to Room 30 at the back of the hotel and whilst the room was perfectly adequate the bathroom was tiny and we felt as though we would step into the loo from the shower (a poor design with the sink not next to the bath). Another disappointment was the lack of soundproofing in the room which did not deflect the noisy plumbing from other rooms. On a more positive note the breakfast on both mornings was absolutely delicious and made with good quality food. All the staff are superb, professional and friendly. Despite the criticism of room 30 this is a hotel we would definitely return to in the future (if we can stay in Room 15, 16 or 17.

"Very friendly"

21/09/2016

We stayed for only one evening and received a very friendly and warm welcome by the Scottish chap on reception. We were able to store our bicycles in their 'wee' shed. Our room was large, clean with a comfortable bed, bath/shower and toilet, television and tea & coffee making facilities. It was a Sunday evening so the hotel was very quiet. Our room backed on to the pebbly car park - of which there are plenty of parking spaces - which I had concerns about with perhaps noisy people coming and going during the late/early hours and the sound of the cars on the gravel but as it was so quite we had none of that and the curtains had a good lining which made us think it was earlier than it was - I thought it was the middle of the night, however it was around 8am. Breakfast was good, the usual cereals etc., plus cooked breakfasts. I had avocado on a toasted muffin with poached eggs. We stayed on a Sunday night which for a special price included an evening meal and a bottle of wine. The starter and dessert were well presented and tasty but the main course, roast pork and roast beef were a little disappointing. The vegetables were hard and the meat could have done with being slowly cooked as they were a bit tough. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were fine. The service was very good throughout the whole hotel, very warm and friendly. The location is very good, in the countryside which is very nice. We rode over to Daylesford Organic Farm and back and although a little hilly we saw some lovely scenery. We wouldn't hesitate on staying here again if we were in the area.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Good, clean facilities. The bedroom was very clean and the bed was very comfortable, providing a good night sleep. The room was stocked with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, bottled water and biscuits which was a nice touch. Very quiet so we were not disturbed at all through the night which is always a bonus as this can never be guaranteed, our room was a little small but that didn't bother us. We thoroughly enjoyed the food here, we both had beef which was gorgeous and we loved the breakfast the next morning. Lovely place to stay!

I always stay at the Wroxton when I am in Banbury for business There are hotels in town but I would rather the extra distance for this hotel Rooms have been updated and really modern Wifi is fast Food is great especially cooked breakfast The staff always friendly and attentive The bar slightly small but carries most of what you need Overall one of my favorite homes from home Would highly recommend

A good clean hotel in a very pretty village. Easy parking. The staff were very curteous and helpful and the breakfast excellent. It is well worth having a short walk around the village and seeing if you can spot all the sundials.Well placed for travelling the area.

Must give a shout out to Stewart one of the Managers who was really helpful and chatty there was 3 of us and think we drove him mad, went back next day with the boss for lunch, he was very impressed all in all a great hotel

"Lovely hotel but the staff really make it!"

11/09/2016

We have just returned from a two night stay as we were meeting up with friends living in the area for the weekend. The hotel is very pretty, in keeping with the local architecture and has been cleverly extended so as not to look as though extensions have been bolted on. We checked in on Friday afternoon and were welcomed by a very friendly receptionist who took us to our room on the first floor. The hotel had emailed us to let us know that there was a wedding being held there on the Saturday, so we were expecting it. Very sensible idea. Our room was very nice indeed. Lovely size, very nicely decorated (smelt like new carpet and furniture) with a good size bathroom en-suite. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate making facilities and a couple of packets of very nice biscuits. We unpacked and settled in. Went out for an explore in Banbury (had a drink and something light to eat at The Church Bar) and then drove into Stratford (only seven miles from the hotel - worth a visit). Came back and enjoyed a very good dinner at the hotel in their restaurant (very good menu £33 for three courses, £28 for two). We'd pre-booked the day before and they had room for us. The food and wine was very good indeed - we've recommended the restaurant to our friends who live up there - they've not been before. Had a good night's sleep for the first night - and you can open the windows for fresh air, rather than deal with aircon. Breakfast was very good - excellent quality sausages and bacon (according to my husband). I'm pescatarian - so had no meat but was offered vegetarian sausages if I wished. I declined and had scrambled eggs, cooked tomatoes, mushrooms, lovely fried bread and baked beans. Lots of toast, tea or coffee and fruit juices along with continental options including cereals, granola, yogurts, pastries etc. We were meeting a friend for parkrun at Banbury so had breakfast at 7.15ish which worked very well. We were out for the morning of our second day, but came back to the hotel to see if we could have a spot of lunch. We'd expected this might not happen as they were in the middle of preparing for the wedding, but there is a lovely pub a five minute walk up the road towards Wroxton village centre (The White Horse, I think) and had a good pub lunch there instead. We spent the rest of the day and evening out with our friends and came back to the hotel for our final night. The wedding was in full swing but the sound-proofing in the bedrooms is excellent and we were not disturbed by it at all, up on the first floor. Had a good night's sleep on a very comfy queen-sized bed and had a lie-in before breakfast at 8.45ish. Again - good food and friendly, attentive staff. The only thing that was really odd was our eggs! We were asked whether we would like fried or poached eggs cooked for us, instead of the standard scrambled eggs and we both opted for the poached eggs. But they were the weirdest things we'd ever eaten - possibly coddled in a microwave - the texture was a cross between gel and custard. We should have been brave enough to ask how they were cooked, but weren't! But weird eggs aside, this hotel was delightful, friendly and welcoming and very comfortable. A bit pricey, but worth it for our lovely weekend.

"Birthday celebration for six"

11/09/2016

Six of us celebrated our birthdays, two 80s three 75s and a 78.We went on the Picnic deal, very good value. The staff treated us as VIPs, nothing is to much trouble for them. The food is good, and the hotel is very clean, and comfy. This was our third visit, we will be going again. Thank you all very very much.

"Wonderful Surprise!"

09/09/2016

We booked this hotel on the Best Western website at the last minute, based on it being an easy first day's drive from Heathrow. There was a problem with our credit card and we were delighted when Vanessa went out of her way to phone us in Norway to straighten it out. When we arrived, after a long day of flying and driving, we were surprised to find a charming historic hotel. We entered to see a threesome enjoying afternoon tea in the reception area. Check-in was easy. Every staff member we talked with was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Bed comfy. Wifi good. The town was an absolute delight. We had a pub dinner at the White Horse Inn right up the street, with a lesson on English ales and ciders and local history thrown in for free. We enjoyed a walk around town after dinner. Known as the "the most thatched village in England," Wroxton is a real gem. The grounds of Wroxton College are amazing. Next morning we were served a wonderful breakfast, including a lovely buffet and a hot breakfast from the menu. (We had reserved at the "bed and breakfast" rate. Highly recommended!) Instead of being anxious to get on our way we found ourselves taking one more walk around town and checking out just ahead of check out time. We absolutely recommend this hotel! What a wonderful surprise!

"A real Gem "

I stay here very frequently with business as our company is close by and cannot fault the level of quality. Rooms are spotless staff are the friendliest and food is out of this world. It's the one hotel I actually feel relaxed in. Gardens and surroundings are beautiful. It's just a pity it's always full but also shows how successful it is. This is how a hotel should be !!!

"We had a perfect Wedding here."

5
07/09/2016

My son chose this place for his Wedding. It was the first one he saw and no other venue could match it. The place was idea, with lots of seating areas in relaxing setting. We had the enclosed garden area where the children could play safely and we made the most of the beautiful weather. Our room was lovely and very modern and comfortable. The service meal and disco was held in a room just the right size and adapted well for each one. The food I enjoyed and thought it was great value. The staff were lovely. The only niggle was that guest had to book two nights as over the weekend. I would totally recommend this hotel for any family get together.

"2nd visit - 5* again"

07/09/2016

It's my 2nd time here, both as a business traveller with colleagues. Bar is good (small choice but excellent service). Restaurant food was perfect, steak cooked perfect. Looking forward to the next stay here!

"Family dinner in a beautiful restaurant with outstanding service"

5
05/09/2016

My mother and I came into the hotel with a family member who lives locally for an impromptu dinner to celebrate. Having been to the hotel for business lunches previously I was sure that it was a good choice. The restaurant exceeded all expectations! The decor was stunning but not overdone, the service was friendly, genuine and to be honest, flawless, and the food was beautifully flavoured and presented. I was absolutely taken aback that I could have this quality of food and service on my doorstep. I am very eager to return and wouldn't consider anywhere else in/around Banbury for a special occasion now! Thank you all at the Wroxton House Hotel for making our evening so memorable!

"Great location to explore this part of the world"

5
05/09/2016

Stayed here while touring this part of the country. Hotel occupies a road corner in the centre of Wroxton close to Banbury (seems all buildings in Banbury seem to be directly on the road). This place while not being grand or spacious, does more than make up for it in terms of comfort, staff (amazing) and general ambience. The location is perfect, lots of National Trust priorities nearby (Stowe 17 miles for example), Stratford-upon-Avon (20 miles ), Oxford (24m) etc. Easy Parking as well. Local dining - check out the Three Pigeons in Banbury (very good). Hotel - only small -ve , shower over bath, and single hot/cold taps over sink (+the hot water was super hot, dangerous)

Family visit to Cotswolds Booked for bank holiday break in the Cotswolds, firstly ideal base to drive to places like Bourton on the water and Broadway Tower. Arrived late check in 10pm, very welcoming chap at reception who smiled! Offered to book us into dinner even that late and personally showed us to our rooms (we booked 2). Asked for more blankets he put them into our room whilst we were out. The breakfast was really good and overall great to have smiling friendly staff. We're an Asian family always nervous going out of London had a great time here would recommend and stay again I travel internationally a lot and abroad the hotel quality and service tends to be superior than the UK and I was nervous about booking in the UK after reading some horror reviews for quite expensive places. Here the Best Western brand assured me (use them abroad) and the staff were excellent. Thanks for a great experience more hols in the UK!

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
We are so pleased you enjoyed your trip to the Cotswolds, we are so lucky to have such beautiful countryside on our doorstep. Now that we have reassured you there are some hotels that are real gems in the UK, we hope to see you back soon for another visit. Best wishes, Gill

"A brilliant venue for a family 70th birthday party lunch"

30/08/2016

We booked the Wroxton for my wife's 70th birthday lunch. The staff could not have been more helpful in planning the event. On the day a drinks tray was ready well before the guests arrived. A great private room, great meal and excellent service from the assistant manager and his team. Everything went to plan. They did a brilliant job

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to leave your lovely comments, David and the team are delighted your enjoyed your day. The Wroxton Room is the perfect size for a private family event and allows you the space and time to speak to all your guests. Best wishes, Gill

"A great find. Our first stay but not the last."

30/08/2016

We arrived and were greeted by a very pleasant and helpful member of staff. This was the sign of things to come. All staff were great without exception. The room was clean and well maintained with a comfortable bed and coffee/tea making facilities. Breakfast the next morning indicated that the quality was going to be up to our expectations. We were not disappointed. Once again, helpful and pleasant staff who were all efficient. Finding this we booked a table for that evening. A delightful meal with the beef and lamb cooked the way we like it. The meat was good quality. Vegetables were also well cooked (not over cooked). Great flavours. Unfortunately we had only booked for 2 nights but using this as a base we visited Bletchley Park, Bicester retail village & the Althorp estate. When in the area again we will stay here.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, our kitchen team are extremely proud of their 2 AA Rosettes for the restaurant. They are currently writing the new menu for autumn and from what I have seen of the menu trials you will have to come and visit again soon! Best wishes, Gill

I took a Probus group of 23 retired persons to Wroxton house hotel, a few miles on the road from Banbury to Startford on Avon, and as Social secretary having organised numerous coffee stops at hotels, I may assure any readers that this hotel is one of the best if you are looking for courtesy, a lovely lounge and excellent coffee, tea, and homemade cookies. If nothing changes from our visit 23 August 2016 then rest assured you will not be disappointed. Ken M.

23/08/2016

This was the second time we had visited for Sunday lunch and we were amazed that the staff remembered us; even that the little boy with us liked to pretend that roast beef was chicken ! We were warmly welcomed; the staff were unobtrusively attentive and the meal delicious. Do not hesitate to book here ; it is just lovely.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I always think that Sunday lunch is always superb value for money and a wonderful way to spend a lazy afternoon, especially if you have coffee in the lounge and catch up with the papers! Best wishes, Gill.

23/08/2016

We stayed two nights in this hotel while we were attending a local wedding. All the hotel staff were fantastic - they were extremely welcoming and couldn't do enough to help. The hotel was beautiful and was very well maintained. Our room was lovely, very comfortable and in very good condition. We ate in the restaurant the first night and had a gorgeous meal. We also had breakfast both mornings and it was lovely; we could not fault the food. It was a perfect stay in a perfect hotel. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here!

Daventry Ramblers , 22 walkers had lunch on 18/8 . We were made most welcome in the very attractive venue . All of the staff were very attentive and served us a delicious lunch in a very comfortable dining room . Ramblers more often look for a pub option . However if in Wroxton use this hotel . Our lunch was by arrangement so ring first .

From the minute you pull up in the car park to the moment you leave, the staff are 110% attentive helpful professional and the service is second to none.- OUTSTANDING in fact. Great provision of G.F. Coeliac Dietary needs, nothing is too much, had wonderful wedding going on also, and willing to go that extra mile. The best hotel in B.W. group In the mid Shires visited so far. WELL DONE TO ALL AT WROXTON HOUSE HOTEL.

"Perfect stop over"

11/08/2016

A quick overnight stop here has left us wanting to go back for more. What a lovely hotel, clean, comfortable, lovely staff, superb food in the most picturesque Cotswold village sitting on the doorstep of Banbury, Oxford and Stratford upon Avon. We felt very much at home here and are planning a 3 day break in order to return and explore more.

"The most wonderful wedding venue!!"

5
11/08/2016

We had our wedding here this month and everyone was absolutely blown away with the venue and staff. I could not put into words how pleased I am to have found Wroxton House as a wedding venue, I feel truly blessed. We fell in love with the hotel from the moment we visited, it's beautifully decorated, unique and so welcoming and all of our guests agreed. The rooms were lovely, better than any other Best Western that our well travelled guests have been to. The bridal suite was gorgeous. The Broughton room and the private garden was decorated and transformed beautifully for every stage of the wedding. The staff here are amazing, Margaret helped us at every stage to plan the wedding and then in the day I had the pleasure of Stuart looking after me at every moment. We had met him prior to the wedding and from that moment my anxiety and stress disappeared. On the day he was amazing, even thinking to get me a glass of water with a straw in it to save my makeup and giving me tips on how to walk suxcessfully in a wedding dress!! His partner, Emma was also an amazing part of the day and helped out massively. Everything was so seamless. Thank you so much for everything Wroxton House, we will be back for our 1 year anniversary to celebrate with you xxx

We stayed last week for one night. It's a very nice hotel , good service and friendly only one criticism we had a very nice dinner , good food but you feel the need to leave the dining room as the staff are clearing up around you and it's only 9.30pm

"A new favourite "

08/08/2016

We had a delightful stay at the Wroxton House Hotel. From arrival to departure the experience was a pure pleasure. The staff are, without exception, polite and well presented and seem determined to ensure that our stay was memorable for all the right reasons. Everything in the hotel seemed superbly maintained, clean and well decorated. The lounge area has several comfortable seating areas with table service should you require refreshments. The excellence follows through to the restaurant, perfectly cooked, perfectly served and truly exceptional food. Without a doubt once of the nicest hotels we have stayed in, unpretentious and yet very high quality, I can't wait to return.

"Daughters wedding "

5
08/08/2016

August 2016. Our daughter got married at the Wroxton House Hotel last weekend. What a lovely place this is for a wedding, and all of the staff worked so hard to make it a perfect day. I would especially like to thank Stuart and Emma for all of their guidance and organisational skills to make everything run seamlessly throughout the day. The food was excellent and well served. Looking back on it all after a couple of days there was nothing that could have been done better. Thank you all so much for helping to make it a perfect day. Steve and Chris.

"Comfortable room, very helpful staff"

5
08/08/2016

We have been staying at the Wroxton for several years on a regular basis. Whenever we visit friends and family in the area we stay here. The service and standard of care of the guests is consistently excellent. The breakfast is generous and gives plenty of choice. The restaurant and bars meals are always of a high standard and room service is faultless. The staff are delightful. They take the trouble to remember small things, such as the brand of gin that I prefer! The rooms are well equipped and very comfortable. We shall continue to stay at the Wroxton whenever we can

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
The team are hugely important to the overall hotel experience and I am thrilled you enjoyed your stay with us. The advantage of being a property of 32 bedrooms means we are able to remember little details about our guests that make all the difference. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Best wishes, Gill Smith

"Excellent !"

06/08/2016

I had booked Dinner, Bed & Breakfast and from the moment we arrived to the time we left we could not fault anything ! The staff were a delight - always smiling and helpful. The hotel is contemporary modern and everywhere is spotlessly clean. Delightful restaurant with lots of character and the food is amazing - the pistachio cake and rhubarb sorbet is to die for !!! We will definitely be returning and recommending Wroxton House to friends.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I could not agree more with you regarding the pistachio cake.....this is my also my favourite! We have just updated the bar menu and added some new items so hurry back soon. Best wishes, Gill Smith

"Lovely hotel, friendly staff and great food"

28/07/2016

Have just returned from spending the best two nights stay I've ever had in a hotel in this country. Could not have asked for anything more. I never expected to be staying in a village which is straight out of a picture postcard of the Cotswolds. My room was in the original part, with the thatched roof overhanging my window but did not in anyway affect the daylight. The staff - from the young man at reception to the cleaning lady were so lovely - nothing was too much trouble for anyone I came across. I dined there both evenings and was not disappointed, the selection of cereals, nuts, fruits and a choice of cooked breakfasts meant I was well fed until late afternoon. The rooms have everything you would expect in a hotel of this standard, and more, including a safe as standard. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

"A fabulous hotel with wonderful staff, yummy food and a warm welcome"

5
27/07/2016

As soon as I arrived the staff were warm, friendly and very helpful. On entering my room, they carried my bags for me, I found a comfy bed with clean immaculate bedlinen, a lovely ensuite bathroom with big shower, a desk and chair, an arm chair, Wi-Fi and facilities to make drinks. My wardrobe had ample space, there was an ironing board and iron and a safe. There was a fan if I got to warm. My view out of the window was of beautiful fields. Dinner in the restaurant was wonderful I ate from both menus. It was very good value for money and all the staff were exceptionally in their care attention and just happily chatted if I wanted to. Walking round the village is well worth it too as it's beautiful and quaint. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will definitely be going back. 5*****

25/07/2016

We got married here on Saturday. It was the perfect day. Lovely hotel with amazing staff who go above and beyond. a special mention to Stuart & Sean who made our day all the more special and who really outdone themselves. Margaret the wedding coordinator was so helpful from the first day we visited right up until the last. Thank you very much for ensuring we had the perfect day. Mr & Mrs Cook

"Country charm"

5
24/07/2016

Just south of Banbury, the beautiful little village of Wroxton with the ancient church and thatched rooves is the location for this delightful hotel. Masses if old world comfort and charm.....including the very helpful, delightful staff. Tastefully renovated. We stayed in the 'cottage' whilst our daughter and grandson were in the main building. Both equally comfortable and nicely furnished. The dining area is very different;almost like separate rooms in a private house, accessed by walking through one to get to the next. Sounds confusing but it really works, makes you feel more a guest and less a mere money spending number. The breakfast is the usual buffet style though it has to be said....excellently cooked! We travel to this area on an annual basis and would most definitely opt to come to this hotel again

"Quaint.."

18/07/2016

I as told about this hotel hen we stayed at another Best western. It was a good opportunity to stay here as I had business in Banbury. Not disappointed. Staff were welcoming and professional. Rooms were very clean, the hotel was well maintained and good standard of décor. Dinner was excellent, good presentation. Breakfast excellent, staff very pleasant and attentive throughout.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I'm pleased that you found us and weren't disappointed. I'll also pass on your comments about dinner to the kitchen brigade who are always 'chuffed' to be mentioned. Kind regards, Gill

"overnight stop"

5
18/07/2016

I chose this hotel purely because of the location as it divided my trip to the north by half. What a find we had a very pleasant nights sleep and a very enjoyable evening diner. The breakfast the following day was just as good. The staff were all very friendly and professional. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for finding time to post a review and delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay. We are in a great location for access to the M40 but with the advantages of being in a beautiful thatched village rather than the centre of Banbury. Hopefully see you next time you are passing. best wishes, Gill

"A real gem in quiet picturesque village"

5
18/07/2016

First time in this lovely relaxing hotel and unfortunately we only booked a one-night stay but it was an excellent choice and hope to return some time. The staff made this stay so special making a point of being friendly and interested in what we were doing. The hotel is clean and well-cared for and the building is a clever blend of old and new. Small well-kept garden and ample parking provided. Very comfortable room, seats for two people, bedside tables and lights on both sides of the bed and a well-planned en-suite with bath and oodles of hot water. Shower could have been a bit more powerful though. Very pleasant bar area with comfortable seating and tastefully decorated. Excellent breakfast with lovely fresh fruit and delicious cooked breakfast. Everything was done to make our stay there enjoyable including providing us with a map to explore the grounds of the nearby abbey. Evening menu in restaurant was a bit expensive so we walked to local pub in village.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review

"Short Holiday"

5
16/07/2016

On arrival for a short holiday we were allocated room 8, an executive room which was a lovely large room with 2 TV's, a seating area etc, it was very clean but overlooked a flat roof which would have been fine if staying for 1 or 2 nights but as we were staying longer asked if we could have a different room. this was not possible that night as the other rooms were full, however the receptionist was very helpful in arranging us a change of room for the next 3 nights (room 16). The new room was a beautiful light airy room that overlooked the fields and church at the front of the hotel, the road was a little noisy but the traffic became very light as it got later, not a problem for us. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful and Marc and his team in the restaurant are brilliant. The food was all very nice and very well presented, there is a large car park at the rear. There is plenty to see and do in the area, Upton house, Hidcote, British motor museum etc. My only complaint is that we were allocated a room with a poor view for a 4 night stay but this may have been something to do with a car club staying. Will definitely be staying again.

"Another lovely evening"

4
14/07/2016

Once again we had a very comfortable evening. This time we stayed in a more modern room which actually I think I prefer. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Bedroom was a good size and nice and clean. Just don't understand why the mattress in a double room should have two beds pushed together with an obvious join down the middle. I would suggest different mattress toppers or keep twin rooms for just that. Dispite that we had a really good sleep. Staff again very helpful and friendly.

"Excellent short break"

5
11/07/2016

We stayed here for a few days with friends and were very pleased with the accommodation and service. The room was delightful, very clean, fresh and comfortable. The hotel is on a busy road but our room faced away from the road and was quiet. We had evening meals and breakfasts in the hotel and all were excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. Across the road from the hotel is the old village of Wroxton and Wroxton Abbey which provides access to the grounds and is well worth a visit.

Friendly helpful staff. Good location. Our room was small but clean and comfortable although ventilation was poor. We were offered a bigger room but as we were only there for four nights we didn't change. Breakfast selection was good and quality of food very good.

We stayed here for a couple of nights while visiting friends. We had a room upgrade to superior and the room was right up in the eaves. It was a lovely room, spacious and airy, with windows that opened and kept it cool. Everything was as clean and comfortable as you would expect – a delightful room that we both loved. There is a road that runs past the hotel which was a bit busy in the afternoon, but eased off at night, but probably still best if you can get a room away from the road. The staff were also lovely, friendly, helpful – I couldn't fault them in any way. The only problem we had was the evening meal. It was quite expensive at £28.50 for two courses or £33 for three, so we chose from the bar menu, which we were able to eat in the restaurant. However, we felt that the portions were small, nice but not great, and still quite expensive – a meal for 4, (aperitifs, no expensive wine, 3 pints each for the two men) came to just over £150 with a tip. There really aren't any other dining options without a car ride into Banbury so you are a bit stuck with it. However, apart from that I would recommend this hotel. Would we return? Not sure – the restaurant would be a major sticking point.

Thank you for your lovely comments about our team. The additional space and little extras that come with our superior rooms really make them worth you treating yourself! I am sorry you felt dinner was on the expensive side, we often have special deals on for dinner, bed and breakfast rates so keep checking our website for any offers. Best wishes Gill

"Friendly and telaxing place to stay"

Stayed here for one night while away for work. What a lovely hotel and staff to match. From the friendly welcome we had the minute we arrived, to the excellent food in the bar and the delicious breakfast, I can't fault it I have to admit that at first glance, the room seemed quite small and as I was above the reception I did worry that it might be noisy. It wasn't. This was a Monday night though, so I can't comment on what it might be like at weekends. However, the bed was so comfortable that I had no problem falling asleep and sleeping well. The food in the bar area was very tasty and the staff were friendly, asked how we were and answered any questions we had. The breakfast was substantial and freshly cooked and the coffee very very good. Everyone had a smile on their face and the gentleman on reception (Ryan I think) was efficient, friendly and again, helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Delighted to read your lovely comments and pleased you enjoyed your stay. Hopefully we can welcome you back next time you are in the area. best wishes, Gill.

"Dining experience in hotel restaurant"

5
27/06/2016

Visited the 1649 restaurant in this hotel with visiting family and had the best dining experience. From start to finish staff were friendly and attentive. The set 3 course menus were excellent and well thought out. Drinks were not overpriced, and the whole experience was most relaxing. I would certainly recommend this venue. There is also a very good bar and lounge menu available.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
We are rather proud of our restaurant and Head Chef Marc Ward and his team were delighted to receive 2 AA rosettes earlier this year. He makes his own bread, pasta, jams, marmalades and pickles and there is always something tasty to tempt you. Hopefully we will see you again soon. Best wishes, Gill

"Like a family run hotel"

5
27/06/2016

If you didn't know this lovely hotel is part of an enormo-chain you'd be forgiven for thinking it was family run given its attention to detail and the enthusiasm of its staff. The food is excellent and great value for money (though the wine list could be expanded a bit). Marc, who runs, the restaurant is a delight. They were having a large function whilst my wife and I were there on Saturday but we barely noticed it as the hotel is very well and fully staffed. Comfortable bed, pleasant room, pretty building - really couldn't fault it. We'll be back.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
It won't come as a surprise to you that we are very much privately owned and family run....so I'm pleased that that was obvious during your stay. All Best Western hotels are privately owned and operated and my husband and I are very much hands on. We have a great team that pride themselves on going the extra mile...........not always easy to find today. I'll makes sure that Marc and the rest of his team reads your review. Kind regards, Gill

"Fabulous hotel!"

21/06/2016

I held a team meeting at the Wroxton House Hotel on the 20th of June, we all stayed the evening of the 19th. From the moment I walked in the staff could not do enough to help, they were fantastic and a credit to the hotel. My room was immaculate, luxurious and the bed easiness of the most comfortable I have slept in. We all ate in the restaurant which because of its layout was like having a private dining room, the food was excellent and the service superb! The meeting room was full of character, flooded with natural daylight and looked out on the stunning chocolate box village of Wroxton. Lunch was fantastic and we even had white chocolate cheesecake with afternoon coffee! This hotel should never be a 3*, it's 4 star plus! I would highly recommend staying for business or pleasure! Thank you to all the staff from all of the team, we loved it.

I stayed at this Best Western for just one night on a cycling tour. Everything about the place was good. Nice spacious clean and up to date room, good wifi, all the staff were friendly and very helpful, and the breakfast (excellent selection including my favourite of smoked haddock and a poached egg) was just right - a pot of tea and a pot of hot water to go with it too. I would definitely stay there again if I'm in the area.

15/06/2016

Had a one night stay here for business and the property and the village is very pretty. Thatched roofs abound. Good service and food. Would recommend as a stop, over or for seeing the local area. Bed was a little soft for my preference but still slept well.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback, we are so lucky to be on edge of the Cotswolds with many 'chocolate box' villages to visit including Wroxton itself. We are glad you enjoyed your dinner and hope you come back soon as our Head Chef has just launched his delicious summer menu. Best wishes, Gill

"Ideal wedding venue"

01/06/2016

Our daughter was lucky enough to hold her wedding at this wonderful hotel on Sunday the 29th of May. I cannot praise the staff enough, nothing was to much trouble and they made us feel so relaxed and confident in their ability to make things right. Charlotte was amazing, she was always smiling and she looked after us all weekend, and we must also thankyou to Sean, as the perfect master of ceremonies, he did a great job in making the reception flow without any hitches. The hotel itself is lovely, the rooms are clean, comfortable and I would recommend to anyone, if you need to stay in this area you must stay here. You will not regret it. Well done and thankyou again to everyone who made our day special.

My daughter got married here last week end and what a wonderful venue it was. The staff were all brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and every need was met. Food was fantastic and the actual hotel is idyllic for a wedding venue, very personal but plenty of space to spread out. we stayed at the hotel and the rooms were lovely and breakfast was also plentiful. I would recommend this lovely hotel and staff to anyone thinking of having a wedding or for just a stay. Thankyou wroxton house for a brilliant day.

"Great stay in an English Country Hotel"

5
29/05/2016

A quintessential English Country Hotel, good rooms, great service, difficult to beat this little Gem. The only possible complaint is the shower could hold the title for renaming it to become a "Dribble" , difficult to get wet and needs updating.

"Twelve very satisfied customers!"

Best 3 star hotel I've stayed in by a country mile.Lovely location, great staff (Betty) and a very comfortable bed.I never had time to eat although looked busy.Lovely decor and immaculate grounds.Only downside is the safety iron which a lot of hotels have now....useless.Get a real iron :-) ...overall great value for money.

"excellent food & service in a lovely location"

4
22/05/2016

We enjoyed our stay in Wroxton and especially the food and service in the bar and restaurant. The quality of the food was excellent and the staff could not have done more. my only slight criticism is the room was a bit small, over the restaurant and on the road. and price for the room with no breakfast at £108 was a bit pricey.

"Fantastic stay for a special occasion"

5
19/05/2016

We stayed for one night as a group of 7 to celebrate an 80th birthday. We all arrived at about 3pm, checked in and settled down for an afternoon tea. We were allowed to bring in our own birthday cake, and the sandwiches provided by the hotel were delicious. The evening meal was also very nice, although I only recall seeing one choice for a vegetarian option. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and we all had a good nights sleep. Very firm mattresses, tea and coffe making facilities in rooms with decent sized mugs, TV and seating area all in the room. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice of both hot and cold. The staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful throughout, nothing was too much trouble and it really made the occasion very special. We shall definitely return.

"Excellent hotel"

17/05/2016

Stayed for one night in May. The staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. Our standard twin room was a bit on the small side but was clean, warm and had a couple of chairs and a small table. There was free wifi in the room and also a flatscreen tv with sky channels ( including all the sky sports channels) . The hotel has a lovely lounge area and a decent outdoor seating area. We ate dinner from the bar menu and the food was very good. Breakfast was eaten in the restaurant , a very pleasant room, and consisted of a continental buffet and a choice of cooked items served at the table along with filter coffee ( decaf available) served in a cafetière. Food was hot and well cooked. I would stay at this hotel again and can recommend it with confidence!

"Zilch flexibility/consideration "

1
15/05/2016

Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights on a cancel on the day basis . Unfortunately we got stuck on our way down with poor rail service & late feeder coaches hence could not reach finally. Since connectivity on the train was poor we could not inform them in time for the noon deadline but only later in the evening on the day. Ended up getting charged for both days for both rooms as we could inform them only after a few hours. Requested if they could charge a part penalty or let us come in on another day but all we got was a NO. So much for their consideration towards their customers. Will never book here again.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for leaving a review and allowing me the opportunity to put forward a somewhat different recollection of events. You had reserved 2 rooms but for one night only, Saturday, not for 2 nights as you have said and you made the reservation via an online booking site. We received an email cancelling your reservation at 2.55 am on Sunday!! The cancellation, from the booking agent also confirmed that they were charging us a commission for your reservation as you had failed to cancel prior to the 12 midday on the day of arrival as per your contract. We do appreciate that sometimes travel plans go awry and had you called us earlier in the day and allowed us the opportunity to resell the rooms and cancel any claim for commission from the booking agent we would have been in a position to be more flexible. We did hold the rooms in good faith and am therefore disappointed that you feel we have been unreasonable in the circumstances. Kind regards, Gill Smith

"Simply Outstanding!!"

5
15/05/2016

I write a lot of reviews. I stay in a lot of hotels around the world and im extremely picky! This hotel is simply outstanding, and one of the finest ive ever stayed in. Thats a big claim, let me explain why i feel so strongly about that statement. The hotel itself is in a lovely part of Banbury, out in to the country so has a village feel to it. Our room was very modern, but in a cottage style so was oozing character and charm. The facilities of the hotel, although advertised as a 3-star are certainly 3-star+ and should be seen as a very very good hotel for its category. As i was staying to attend a wedding for a couple of nights, I got to see a few of the rooms. The first night i was in a twin room (room 35). The bed was extremely comfortable and the room well decorated. The lounge where we met for a few drinks was also very comfortable. My second night was with my family, in room 15. This was the downstairs executive room which was kitted out to host my wife, my 3 kids and I. Despite our numbers the space was massive! We were all very comfortable after a day of partying. All i would say thought is watch your head when coming out of the door in room 15! I managed to hot my head on the door frame and the next thing i knew was looking up at the ceiling seeing stars! Finally, and probably the hotels biggest asset is the staff. First class, and i dont say that lightly. From reception, to restaurant and bar staff they were polite, attentive and keen to ensure that you having a great time! A special mention to the Assistant manager who made a point to learn all of my children's names and ensure they were also having fun. The hotel, the rooms and the staff. A gem in the countryside, and made our stay, and the weeding for my brother and his new wife absolutely amazing!

"Friendly, welcoming hotel"

5
02/05/2016

We recently stayed at this hotel with a group of friends - ten in total. Everyone enjoyed their stay; accommodation was very comfortable and clean, staff very welcoming and friendly at all times and the food was of a high standard. The location is excellent, with many National Trust and other properties within the locality. Our friends were reluctant to leave and we booked accommodation for next year's get together before departing.

"Exceptional Sunday Lunch"

02/05/2016

Wroxton House is a small country house hotel, in a little village outside of Banbury Oxon. Thatched House with large car par to side and rear of hotel. Inside, there are cosy Lounge areas, small Bar where we were greeted with a smile and welcome Drink order was taken at our comfy seats and menus were given. Dining room not overcrowded. Glass of House wine delivered promptly to our table in individual Carafes, and delicately poured out for us.I I Did not enjoy the taste of my wine, just personal taste I add, so was quickly offered something else to go with my lunch, and no charge. Food Exceptional, our roast beef done to perfection(large portions).Extra veg, gravy etc no problem here. Coffee included in the cost you can have at your table or back in those comfy chairs as we did.All the way through the service and attention to our needs is paramount. A wonderful, relaxing, Sunday lunch and Yes will go back and try an evening Meal. Asked to be shown around hotel and rooms etc, very obliging again, nothing is too much trouble and a friendly goodbye when we left.

Wonderful short break (6 nights). Looked after superbly from start to finish. Reception, bar, restaurant, housekeeping all excellant (in no particular order!). Thank you all. Didn't get to Bletchley so will have to come back!

"Hotel with character"

4
29/04/2016

This is a lovely hotel located on the edge of a quiet village. It consists of a series of interconnected buildings ranging from several hundred years old (complete with thatched roof) to contemporary buildings. The staff made us feel very welcome. Our room was comfortably furnished. The restaurant meals of evening dinner and breakfast were both good. It was a shame that we were only able to stay one night as this hotel merits longer.

"Great hotel in a lovely village"

5
26/04/2016

I stayed three nights at Wroxton House Hotel while visiting Oxford and the upper Cotswolds. The location is fantastic. It's easy to get to larger cities (including Oxford and Stratford-Upon-Avon) as well small villages. There's a large Tesco just a few miles away, so you can pick up snacks or any items you might have forgotten at home. The staff were very friendly and helpful, making sure I had everything I needed when checking in. The room was rather large compared to other European hotels (very similar in size to an American hotel). I would definitely stay here again if I were visiting the area.

"Pleasant surprise"

5
26/04/2016

Was booked in to stay here by work. Had a pleasant surprise at how nice this place was. Nice rooms, high quality menu and food. Excellent service. Not full of TV screens in public areas which promotes relaxation and conversation. No gym. Situated in a lovely village that's well worth exploring. Would recommend for a meal even if you weren't staying there. Cooked Breakfast didn't live up to the same quality as the evening meals. Looking forward to working in Banbury again soon.

"One night only... :-("

5
25/04/2016

We were able to stay at this wonderful hotel for one night only as it was a stopover for a wedding further north. It was enough, though, to ensure we'll be back. I 'd mentioned to the hotel that it was our wedding anniversary, prior to the wedding we were travelling to the next day. Not only was our request for a quiet room granted, the person I spoke with on booking couldn't have been more helpful in discussing and offering room options. Arriving at the hotel after an awful journey up - parked on the M25 for an hour and then through a rainstorm on the M40, we were almost a tad crabby, I'm sorry to say. The Receptionist (sorry I can't remember your name but hopefully, management at the hotel will know who was on duty) couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. 'Don't worry if you're not ready for your restaurant booking, just come and have a drink and relax beforehand' - wonderful! This hotel is plush, relaxed and elegant. We were told by another couple that it had been refurbished and, 'wasn't the same'. Sorry, we can only conclude that they were the ones who needed refurbishing ... Ignore! As others have said, guest areas, furnishings and service are wonderful. Our room, an executive double, was comfortable and smart. The bathroom was a tad narrow and I would agree with a previous reviewer that something weird is happening with the magnifying mirror (no, I couldn't see in it either) but, honestly, no real issue as there was also a large mirror. Coming down to the bar, we found that the hotel had provided us with a complimentary glass of Prosecco each, which was a lovely touch - thank you! Drinks from the bar come with mixed olives and popcorn. Sorry, did I mention that this hotel is 'only' a 3*...?! Dinner was excellent. From the amuse bouch of a pea veloute to the beef and lamb options (see menu), all our food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. We were so impressed, we asked our waitress if we could speak with Chef. We got the impression he was reluctant to come 'front of house' but he did and we were glad: an unassuming but knowledgeable and very likeable young man who was obviously proud of his food and achievements. Keep going but don't aim for that particular 5* restaurant we talked about - yours was most definitely better! So, apologies for the long review: this is a wonderful hotel that surely deserves more than its 3*. Don't want to say it too loud though because others will find it and we want to keep it a special secret! Thank you Wroxton House Hotel. You made our visit and anniversary very special and we will be back.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I'm delighted that you enjoyed your overnight stay with us and that the team exceeded your expectations on all levels, I'll make sure they all read your comments, thank you and 'Happy Anniversary' Best wishes, Gill Smith.

We chose this hotel for its proximity to an event that we were attending. It is situated in the N.Oxfordshire village of Wroxton, which has a classic Cotswold stone ambience. The staff were courteous, friendly and efficient. The open areas in the hotel were clean and tidy, without being 'sterile' and the furnishings and layout provided a 'home from home' feel. Our room was an 'executive' type and being at the end of a corridor had no passing traffic. The room itself was spotlessly clean, the furnishings of a good standard and the easy chairs comfortable. The bathroom had an 'in bath' shower facility which gave a powerful shower of even temperature and a curtain that did not try and grab you! The bath itself was a very comfortable, good quality steel item. Most importantly, the bath towels were very thick and of a generous size. There was also a magnifying mirror and plenty of bright light in the bathroom. The double bed was comfortable with nice bed linen and a duvet. There was a large flat screen TV in the room and WiFi throughout. The buffet breakfast had helpful staff in attendance and whilst choices were not overly comprehensive we had everything that we wanted. The food was all freshly prepared and again, of importance, tasted very good! Outside there was ample, screened, parking away from the road. The village environs provided a very pleasant walk and the impressive Wroxton House grounds were open to the public. Would we be happy to stay there again - absolutely!

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I'm really pleased that you chose to stay at Wroxton House and glad that you weren't disappointed. We really do have the best of all worlds, being near to the M40 for access yet on the doorstep of the Cotswolds, Stratford, Oxford and many local National Trust properties, in fact there is something for everyone. Hope to see you again soon, regards, Gill Smith.

Used our Tesco points to book a two night stay and were very pleased with the hotel. The room was warm and cosy, the bed and linen great quality. The bathroom was well supplied and the shower hot and powerful. Breakfast was very good with the hot selection cooked to order (I hate hot buffets!). What more could you want?

"A Fantastic Weekend!!!"

23/04/2016

My daughter and her husband (he wasn't when they booked) decided to hold their wedding reception here, they could not have chosen a better venue. Various meetings took place to discuss food, music, decorations, etc., there was even a food tasting session to ensure they were happy with their selection. At all stages of the planning, the event organiser (Margaret) offered help and advice to make sure everything was okay on the day. On arrival we were greeted by Shaun and his team, who looked after us all from start to finish. The room looked fantastic, as was the food and the guy that did the disco got it just right. As for the service, well I just couldn't fault it and believe me, if I could I would! Quite a few of us stayed for the night. When my wife and I went for breakfast we were shown to a room that had been prepared for those attending the reception. Once again the room was beautifully laid out, with an excellent buffet breakfast provided. If you think I was impressed, you'd be right and the staff earned every bit of my praise. They gave us the sort of experience dreams are made of, thank you.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I'm delighted that your daughter chose Wroxton House for her wedding and that we were able to share in the celebration. Sean and his team are very experienced but we still treat every wedding individually which we feel is incredibly important. I hope the happy couple are relaxing on a sunny beach somewhere, please send them our very best wishes, Gill.

"A jewel in the Cotswold crown"

22/04/2016

We're just coming to the end of a week's stay here. We didn't know the hotel at all but I saw it on one of the Best Western adverts on TV and thought it looked rather nice - so we booked. Just a short distance from Banbury, the little village of Wroxton is a stunning collection of thatched cottages around Wroxton Abbey. It's a good centre for exploring the Cotswolds, Oxford, Stratford, Warwick and that area south of Birmingham. The hotel itself has evolved from a collection of cottages with a modern wing and entrance area added. The welcome is warm! The friendly staff, never "in your face" but always on hand to help and always with a smile, are brilliant and professional to their finger tips. Nothing is too much trouble to ensure that your stay is comfortable, relaxed and happy. Our room was a superior one - number 2. There were quite a few stairs to reach it as it ran along the upper floor of what would have been three cottages. The staff insisted on dealing with our luggage so coping with the stairs was fine, though probably not for a couple with mobility issues. We had a large, well appointed bathroom, plenty of towels and toiletries and under floor heating. The dressing table, wardrobe and drinks station were between the bathroom and the sleeping area - plenty of coat hangers, ironing board and iron, hairdryer, room safe, good selection of teas, coffees and hot chocolate and biscuits by the kettle, bottled water replenished every day and bottled fruit juice, also replenished every day. The bed was very comfortable - good quality linen and pillows, bedside tables, club easy chairs and a large tv. A very comfortable room in every respect, beautifully furnished, appropriately heated and serviced well each day. There is a well stocked bar in a small lounge with a lovely wood burner. A larger lounge has plenty of comfortable, squishy sofas and chairs. There is a sort of conservatory at the entrance area with seating - good for a spot of Spring sunshine. Plenty of garden tables and chairs to catch the sun, too. The food was superb! Quality dining whether you chose the restaurant menu or the bar menu. The chef's little amuse bouche each evening was always a treat. The menu changes about every three months. If you are staying for a week (Mon to Sat) as we did you have a good selection. A two week stay might feel a little limited in choice but the dishes are so delicious that a second time time through the menu wouldn't be a trial at all. Wroxton House is a delightful place to stay and we had a wonderful week. A huge "thank you" to all the staff for their attentiveness and care. We really couldn't fault anything - and you even sorted good weather for us!

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
What wonderful comments and a great boost to team morale, thank you for taking the time to write and we look forward to seeing you again before too long. Kind regards, Gill

"Afternoon Tea"

5
15/04/2016

The 'ladies who lunch' decided to do afternoon tea instead and we enjoyed a great time here. The venue is lovely, plenty of parking and a pretty little outside area to enjoy weather permitting. The hotel interior is very pleasant and welcoming and the staff attentive. Our super fare was scrumptious especially the Devine cheesecake - about 5 inches deep! Tea and coffee was endless and we enjoyed (of course) a glass of prosecco. So the tea, the bubbly and tip worked out at £20 each. Value for money and lovely experience of a day spent with friends. Restaurant open evenings only except Sunday's. Must try the Sunday lunch soon.

All round - a lovely place to stay. All of the team are very professional - customer focused and friendly. My Wife & I stayed for a long weekend. We had a warm welcome at reception, who efficiently arranged for our cases to be delivered to our room. Our room was delightful - well equipped (super shower & separate bath), cosy and quiet. Down to the bar and then onto the restaurant - again - really great service and very nice dinner - each night. Great Breakfast too. Our stay could not have been better - the hotel fully lives up to all the compliments on Trip Advisor - our special weekend was all the better for staying here. Great and convenient location to, with ample car park. Thank you.

Stayed for 1 night 12 April. The staff are really friendly and there service is much better than the 3 stars that the place is. Food was great. Definitely coming back to here for my next stay in Banbury.

"Overall a very nice stay"

This is a hotel that would need to have a bad game to lose points as it's pretty much all there from the start. Nice location, albeit Wroxton is a one hotel & pub village (and church) so you can pretty much "do it" in half an hour, friendly staff, nice bar and restaurant area and clean/well kept room. We had a couple of restaurant issues which are out of keeping with previous reviews so I'll accept them as isolated and our gentle complaints were handled very well and the bill adjusted. The bathroom in our room, 21 I think, was a bit strange in that the shaving mirror was about 7ft up the wall and the toilet roll holder out of reach of the toilet. The water wasn't hot enough either. All in all a nice stay and I would recommend this hotel

"Very nice hotel with friendly staff"

Stopped here one night on business. The hotel is well presented and was immaculately clean. The staff from receptionist, bar and waitress were friendly and professional. I had a double room which was modern clean with comfy bed and powerful shower. I ate in the bar and the food was to a good standard. I would happily recommend this hotel and would return if in the area

"Very helpful staff, in a lovely country hotel"

We have stayed here a number of times, and have never been let down, and this time was no exception. We arrived to late for afternoon tea, but the assistant manager managed to rustle up some sandwiches, and a pot of tea which went well, after hours on the motorway. The evening meal was excellent. with very good service. Would I stay here again? Yes

"Thoroughly enjoyable stay"

We recently spent three nights at this delightful hotel in the picturesque village of Wroxton. Our experience was a very warm, welcoming environment with extremely polite and helpful staff. The hotel is very well kept, with good attention to detail. We found the restaurant and food to be of a consistently high standard and thoroughly enjoyed eating in the hotel each evening. Thank you!

Wow, truly amazing hotel and fantastic staff. All so friendly, go above and beyond and really made our wedding day very special. So many great compliments from our guests. Margaret, Sean, Charlotte, Michelle and everyone else you really did us proud. We can't thank you all enough.

01/04/2016

I stayed here on a one night business trip as it was on my route home and I needed a place to stay... What a great find the Wroxton House Hotel was. Just 10 mins off the M40 through a typical surban/Commercial area you suddenly find yourself in a leafy hamblet with thatched cottages and green fields.. and the very pretty Wroxton House Hotel. A very friendly Hotel, staff were very friendly and attentive, rooms were very comfortable, the food was delicious and the décor and general ambience made for a very comfortable stay. I was passing through but if you need a quality hotel in the Banbury area at a very reasonable price look no further... If I'm in the area again I'd definitely choose to stay here.

We had our wedding here. We couldn't recommend it enough! Margaret, Sean, Charlotte, Marc and all the staff were so attentive and fabulous. Margaret was brilliant at helping us plan and answering, at times some what frantic, questions. Sean as our MC couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. As were the rest of the staff. The rooms were great and everyone said how comfortable they were. The food was delicious and even my very vegan 16 year old neice was catered for! Thank you Chef. The whole day ran smoothly and we at no point felt rushed or harried. A perfect day. Thank you!

"Good-looking place"

29/03/2016

Very likeable and well-established heritage hotel on the outskirts of Banbury; most convenient for the M40. It gets off to an immediate good start because it so externally attractive. Seems to be formed of a manor house connected to nearby cottages which are built in the local stone and with a thatched roof here or there, plus a more contemporary wing which doesn't look that much out of place at all. The gardens by the entrance have been carefully planned and maintained, and round the back is a capacious car park where space will never be a problem. I imagine the patio in the front is a bit of a magnet in Summer; might want to sort out that dog-end problem in the borders, though. Accessing the hotel by an ornate but cheerily modern porch (which, again, doesn't look that wrong) leads you into the public lobby area where the Reception, Bar and lounge can be found. We got a warm welcome when we arrived, which was consistent throughout our stay. All staff seem friendly, personable and keen to engage. The lady on reception took us on an epic and convoluted route march to our Superior Room which was situated in a rather characterful loft conversion at one of the furthest extremities of the hotel. As we went up stairs, down corridors, around corners and through fire doors it was quite noticeable that the whole place was pristinely spotless throughout and very well insulated against noise; good-condition fitted carpet everywhere helped. We were quite comfortable in our room, which, again, was reached by a flight of stairs once through the door, although space was fairly economic due to the gallery nature of the layout. I found the bed rather narrow for two but the ubiquitous duvet was not quite as intrusive as elsewhere. Plenty of wardrobe and desk space, and tea/coffee facilities are always appreciated. Making loft beams and trusses a feature of the room is also quite unusual. We had a large separate, very white but very clean, bathroom. Didn't get on very well with the pod style shower; the thermostat and mixer dial were quite counter-intuitive so initial use was somewhat of a jolt. The toilet had a markedly feeble flush and the heated towel rail leaked. The latter was reported and attended to commendably quickly, though. And the floor always seemed warm which was quite pleasant. Our room was close to the road just outside the hotel, but any external noise was barely noticeable We had two evening meals in the restaurant whilst staying at the Wroxton House, and this whole area is run very professionally. The room itself seemed to be series of separate chambers maximising the beam and stone effect and all very comfortable in a traditional way. Menus are an interesting twist on some old favourites and well complemented by a reliable and very reasonable wine list. Presentation of all courses was pleasingly artistic. Mrs EPR had a slight blip with her main course on the first night but this couldn't have been handled any more amicably. I have to say that on the second night my starter of pigeon breast followed by a sublime cut of beef was a truly superb meal for a fully paid-up carnivore. And the home made sticky toffee pudding to follow was equally enjoyable. We were back in the restaurant for breakfast, and absolutely nothing but praise. Very efficient with top quality components and a very generous full english - with fried bread that almost brought tears to my eyes. Also the best coffee that I've ever had from a cafetiere - contraptions which I just don't get at all. We spent a brief time in the bar area just outside the restaurant entrance and found it relaxing and comfortable in a non-flamboyant, civilised way. Plenty of room with several nooks and crannies around the multi-level lobby. And check out the cartoons in the nearby gents loo; I wonder what's in the ladies? Didn't spend a lot of time in Wroxton itself as other duties called, but it seemed like nice country village with a pub close by for any alternative food and beverage options. But on a two night offer, we certainly weren't desperate to leave the hotel. I'd be happy to stay again, and have my eye on the Superior Room with Sitting Area, which looks just the sort of suite I go for when travelling abroad. I'd also have no problem giving the Wroxton House a happy commendation on the basis of our visit.

25/03/2016

My wife and I called in here for lunch, whilst we were a bit early, they sorted us out with drinks and gave us the menus to pick ready for when we could order. We choose to stay with the bar menu, a very good choice. With order placed the food was quick to come out and it was all very good and freshly cooked. I had the Shenington burger, and boy you can't beat a home made burger, it was huge! And plenty of chips. My wife had the Caesar salad starter as a main, and she enjoyed it. Staff were very attentive, friendly and made sure we were happy with everything. We then had a walk around the Abby grounds and went back for a coffee, again very nice and staff very good.

"Great hotel, escellent food, rooms and staff"

I would highly recommend this hotel, great base for exploring Oxford and the Cotswolds. As with all Best Western Hotels the breakfast is outstanding and at this particular hotel the evening meal is excellent

"A Perfect Stay"

24/03/2016

We always feel very welcome and relaxed when we stay here, 5 times now! The staff are wonderful and nothing is ever too much trouble. The rooms and beds are always spotless, well maintained by the housekeeping staff and very comfortable. The food and service from the restaurant is excellent as is the bar service. We spent Christmas here last year and are disappointed not to be able to do so again this year. However, New Year is looking a distinct possibility. Overall a fantastic place to stay, we'll just keep coming back.

"Excellent service! Lovely stay"

Stayed overnight in Executive double. Lovely room - in old original part of building. Small, comfortable, friendly, easy to stay in hotel in beautiful village. Staff were exceptionally helpful, from reception to bar to waiting staff. Cleanliness of the highest standard. Would highly recommend. Definitely will revisit.

"Wedding"

20/03/2016

We attended a wedding at the Wroxton Hall Hotel. Quite often there can be a drop in quality of meals when you are in a large party but the 3-course meal was probably the best meal I've eaten in a long time. The staff around the hotel were helpful and attentive all day long. I have Coeliac Disease so need gluten free food and I had a member of staff proactively look after me the entire time to ensure I didn't miss out on the celebrations. That rarely happens when I'm socialising so it made the day even better for me that they made the effort. The layout of the hotel was ideal for relaxing and created a calm restful atmosphere. We are not from the local area but would definitely consider booking a break here to spend more time exploring. It was a perfect location for a very special wedding. The Wroxton Hall Hotel ticked all the boxes.

"Wonderful again"

20/03/2016

We rarely stay at the same hotel twice but we simply had to here at Wroxton. We were certainly not disappointed again. The staff simply make this hotel and create a wonderful atmosphere. We stayed in room 17 which was in the roof annexe near the road. We were concerned about the traffic noise which was quite loud in the day but at night it was perfectly OK. It was nice to see more or less the same staff as last time and Charlotte even recognised us. Breakfast was delicious and we ate twice at the restaurant which was delicious. Would totally recommend this hotel and we will no doubt stay again.

"Great wedding venue. "

Just had our sons wedding and stayed the night. From start to finish it was superb. Lovely wedding service, reception meal was great, evening party and buffet marvelous, room was brilliant and breakfast was just what the doctor ordered. The staff were a delight and a credit to the hotel. I can highly recommend the Wroxton to stay at and as a wedding venue. Thanks for a great day.

"Faultless service and environment"

My wife and I stayed two nights in the Wroxton House Hotel and the whole experience was all you could wish for in service, surroundings, and overall quality. We would without doubt stay there again if looking for accommodation in the Midlands.

This is one of the best small hotels me and my wife have stayed at. Located in a beautiful little english village with easy access to main routes. The sevice was excellent with very attentive staff who were friendly and very helpful. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The food was very nice both evening meal and breakfast once again excellent service the staff ensure you don't have to lift a finger without being intrusive they maintain the carm relaxed feel to the hotel. A very relaxing stay We will be returning to best western wroxton this is a 3 star hotel but deserves 5 stars

13/03/2016

Such a lovely hotel and the staff really seemed friendly at reception, function and breakfast. The dinner menu though was not inspiring. There are a few places to visit and will be sure to come back. I would probably upgrade next time rather than having a standard room.

Thank you for your review and I'm pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay and found plenty to do in the area. We do have some fabulous Executive and Superior Rooms if you feel like treating yourself next time you stay. Best wishes, Gill.

"Continues to Exceed Expectations "

10/03/2016

Our second stay at Wroxton House confirmed that they consistently exceed expectations. We cannot praise the staff enough - without exception they are friendly, professional and go above and beyond. Rooms are well appointed and spotlessly clean. The restaurant was consistently excellent. We will definitely be returning.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Another lovely review, thank you! I'm rather pleased that you enjoyed the restaurant as we are currently celebrating having been awarded 2 AA rosettes by the AA Inspector on a visit last week, a fabulous reward for the kitchen brigade. Look out for our new summer offers on the website and come back soon for your third visit! Best wishes, Gill.

02/03/2016

We recently had a two night stay at this lovely hotel. Our room was pristine (Deluxe Twin which meant a little more room than the standard). Food plentiful and tastefully presented. Would certainly stay again. Not too far from Blenheim Palace.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
We do appreciate everyone who takes time to leave a review after their stay with helpful hints and tips for future guests. Blenheim is a great day out and with the annual pass you can visit as many times as you like in one year. We are also on the doorstep of many other National Trust properties, Hidcote Gardens being one of my favourite as the spring gets under way or Upton House, only 2 miles from us is a must. Best wishes, Gill.

25/02/2016

My stay at the Wroxton House Hotel was very comfortable. The staff friendly and helpful. I arrived late and was tired after an exhausting few days. As I was on my own I ordered a room service meal which arrived beautifully presented on a tray. The room and bathroom were spotless and only fault was room was too hot for my liking. Breakfast was cooked quickly. I have stayed here before and will certainly stay again if my budget permits. Can recommend.

Delighted to read your positive review and pleased to hear that you were made to feel welcome by the team. Kind regards, Gill.

17/02/2016

This hotel is great value for money. The room was large with 2 TV's, lovely extras like fruit, bottled water, selection of teas, coffee, biscuits in room. Slippers bathrobes even a fan. It was quite luxurious. There isn't a great deal in Wroxton itself but plenty to see near by. The food in the restaurant was excellent and all staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. I couldn't fault this gem of a hotel. I'd definitely come back.

17/02/2016

I stayed at the hotel with my hubby in January 2016. We stayed in a superior room with breakfast and dinner. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. It had a balcony. This would likely be nice in summer although it is above the bar and quite a few people stand outside smoking. The bathroom had a claw-foot tub and separate shower. We enjoyed the bar area and the evening meal was very good. The service throughout the hotel is very good. Breakfast is buffet style but was very tasty and smoked salmon was available. We found the hotel relaxing and would return.

"Valentines Lunch"

17/02/2016

A surprise Sunday lunch on valentines day. First impressions were good, nice decor, warm atmosphere and friendly attentive staff. The food was well presented and delicious. The wine list was reasonably priced with a good selection. The dining area was small but it gave the room a cosy intimate feel. Will definitely visit here again.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thrilled that you enjoyed your Sunday lunch with us and loved the atmosphere. The restaurant actually holds almost 50 guests but as it is in the original part of the house dating back to 1649 it is divided by inglenook fireplaces and arches which does make it cosy and intimate, just perfect for Valentines celebrations. Best wishes, Gill Smith

"Lovely Hotel, friendly staff"

14/02/2016

This is our 2nd visit to Wroxton House Hotel and we will be back again. It is a lovely hotel in one of our favourite places. We always upgrade to a superior room and it's like having your own little holiday cottage, Huge beds, comfy sofas, ensuite etc, etc. Our room was spotless and warm. The food was not 5 star Michelin, but tasty and well presented. Our evening dinner did not lack presentation, but did lack a little bit of that little something that would have lifted it from great to brilliant. My wife commented that ALL the staff were friendly, attentive and always ready to help. I'm not sure why this hotel is only 3 stars as we have stayed in a lot of 4 and 5 star hotels that cannot match Wroxton House Hotel. When there take a stroll around Wroxton Abbey, it's beautiful. We will be back sometime later this year to spoil ourselves again!

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review

Another rare opportunity to stay at this lovely hotel, prior to visiting a trade show at the NEC the following day. As ever, superb welcome and service from the staff, delightful lounge with great bar food, clean, comfy room, and the main restaurant's fayre is superb: clearly the Wroxton's chef is both talented and imaginative. A bit pricey, but then this is really good dining. Large car park, easy to get to, looking forward to visiting again asap.

"The best hotel in the area of Banbury"

4
10/02/2016

Having stayed in many hotels in Banbury and around, I can say with certainty that the Wroxton House is by far the best hotel around. Few miles away from the city centre the hotel is located in the countryside. Rooms are nice and quiet, tidy and clean. The service is good and professional. The breakfast is really correct too.

"What more could I ask for....."

5
01/02/2016

Having returned from an over night stay last night, I would highly recommend the Wroxton House Hotel. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the staff were extremely professional, very polite, very friendly and very accommodating. The hotel is immaculate, rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds. Having coeliacs it is always a struggle to visit a hotel that caters for my dietary needs without prior notice, on my arrival I advised the receptionist, who informed me not to worry - any of the food could be made gluten free for me. The food was incredible and was not made to feel left out and enjoyed a dish from the menu. Breakfast was the same to, the staff even knew that I needed gluten free and provided cereal - toast without me requesting these items. Would recommend without hesitation.

"A fine sunday lunch"

5
26/01/2016

Arriving for lunch on a wet and windy day we were welcomed by a staff member as we came through the doors. Pre-lunch drinks arrived promptly along with menus as we sat by the fire, weather now forgotten. The Sunday lunch menu is not overlong, sensibly, but offers a good range including the traditional roasts. Orders were soon taken and we did not have to wait long before we were shown to our table in a comfortable dining room. Starters soon arrived. We enjoyed our food, tasty, good in quantity and well presented. We returned to the lounge for coffee. Service throughout was efficient, friendly and helpful. The hotel has a comfortable atmosphere. We would be happy to return.

"Very Pleasant"

19/01/2016

Staff were ultra polite, food was very good and good selection for breakfast. Bed was really comfy and the rooms were immaculately clean. Night porter was a little hard to find to get a late drink. Real good value for money but it was a Sunday night when we stopped.

"Another fantastic weekend"

17/01/2016

We are a Classic Car Club and for the 2nd year we have just had our Christmas Party and if anything it was even better than last year. Everything was spot on -we had a power cut on Sat evening but they just carried on. The barman was serving by torchlight. Didn't last long but they were so calm and just carried on. The food all arrived at the same time and was hot & tasty. The staff are amazing so friendly & helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Why only a 3* this Hotel is better than many 4* we have stayed at.

"Our Golden wedding Reception"

5
11/01/2016

We chose this hotel for our Reception because of our previous experiences at a similar event and from dining out there as a couple on various occasions. Our expectations were therefore high, but they were surpassed and more so. Through the process of making the arrangements and throughout the event all the staff were superb and indeed even in retrospect we can find nothing that was other than of the highest quality. The attention to detail and unobtrusive but slick and thoughtful service made the difference between the good that we expected and the excellence that we experienced. A very happy occasion was certainly enhanced by the service we received. We would usually highlight one or two negatives in the reviews that we make, but in all honest can think of none, so thank you and well done Wroxton House Hotel!

"A Very Lovely Hotel"

5
03/01/2016

We had one night in this hotel. Although there was an Xmas Party event taking place that night (that we were not attending) it did not ruin our enjoyment. This is a very nice hotel, with lovely rooms and pleasant, friendly staff. We would not hesitate in staying again and will recommend it to friends.

"Our stay at Wroxton house hotel"

23/12/2015

My wife and I stayed 3 nights in December 2015 at this hotel, all of the staff were very helpful and we were very well looked after, even though it was Xmas party season and very busy.we stayed in room 2 nice large room up in the Eve's,there were no adjoining rooms and it was very peaceful.it had a large bathroom with a bath and shower and was spotlessly clean. However it had only a standard bed in size and was past its sell by date it needs urgently replacing.so we would not book this room again unless it gets a new bed,it did spoil an otherwise perfect stay.(it makes us wonder if the beds in the other rooms are in the same poor condition.)

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely review and I am delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay with us and that the team looked after you very well. I'm so sorry that the bed was not to your liking but I do appreciate that beds are a very personal thing and generate great debate, especially in a hotel. I do hope we shall have the pleasure of welcoming you back to experience our hospitality once again in the New Year. Our very best wishes to you, Gill.

"Xmas party"

3
22/12/2015

Attended work Xmas party, food was good but I prefer Xmas event that are held in big open space. The tables were scattered about. The dance floor was by the bar (in the entrance) so if you prefer small parties then this is for you. Personally I prefer big parties with lots of people but the hotel is not big enough to cater for that size. It's not located in town so you will need a cab. The rooms are a bit pricey it's worth paying a cab ride to another hotel. I recommend premier inn. Then you can go out on the town too. Mind you Banbury has not got much to offer in terms of night life

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review after your recent Christmas Party and I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the meal. We are a small venue but we do feel that what we lack in size we make up for in quality of food and outstanding service. We also offer an exceptional rate of £78 per double and £59 per single room, inclusive of full English breakfast and vat for those attending party nights in December. which you may wish to take advantage of if you come to us another time. Have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for the New Year, Gill.

22/12/2015

Food was extremely bland - no condiments, dressings, sauces. Wouldn't eat there again but after meal disco was excellent - danced the evening away. The starter had no sauce to add to it. The main that I had was salmon served without hollandaise sauce, a block of white stuff which we think was a piece of potato, and my chips (as I don't like roast potatoes) were soggy. Again no condiments. The desert was crackers and cheese. Bland, tasteless dry crackers (no flavoured crackers) and three tiny triangles of cheese. Very poor meal. Extremely tasteless but, as I said, the disco made up for it.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
i was extremely disappointed to read that you hadn't enjoyed your meal at your recent party night. Your starter of prawn, crab and smoked salmon was bound with a dill creme fraiche which is why there was no 'Marie Rose' sauce added and I understand that you requested salmon and chips as your main which is what the chef prepared. I am, however, pleased that the night ended on a high with the disco. Best wishes, Gill.

"Superb Short Break"

17/12/2015

Very fortunate to have won a 2 night stay at Wroxton House. Just outside of Banbury, we arrived late afternoon and got a warm welcome on arrival. Quick and easy check in and shown to our room. We were in Room 8, executive room which was spacious, warm, and all the amenities you could need. Plenty of space and even though i found the room overly warm, i could open the windows and the shutters on the windows allowed a nice breeze to flow through. It was clear from the staff and the welcome pack that nothing was too much trouble. All amenities on offer 24/7 Had a nice drink in the lounge before our meal, time to choose food and drinks while nibbling on the complimentary olives and crackers. The dining area has many different areas and all very clean, cosy and very nice. The food was superb and the service attentive without being over bearing. Fresh and beautiful flavours from starter to desserts and the wine list very good and all very reasonably priced. Coffee and later drinks taken back in the lounge tex too the fire while we planned the next day The bed was a little soft for me but my partner LOVED it and she loved the size of the bath and complimentary products. Two big tis in the room, one in sitting area and one for the bed room plus a DAB radio and hub for apple products. Only has old connector but I'm sure if i asked they would have supplied adaptor for new iphone/mac products. Breakfast was covered for everyone. From fantastic full english to large selection of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals toes, nuts seeds etc etc 2nd night meal and drinks as good as first night, Faultless. It was my partners birthday and the gentleman serving that night gave us with a complimentary drink of our choice. I know some will say "SO they should" but we felt it a lovely touch and finished off a great day. Im a tall chap, 6ft 3 and i would say room 8 would suit most but having sloped ceiling did involve the odd bang of the head for me, hopefully no one heard the odd expletive that may have slipped out .. ;) We both could not fault our stay at The Wroxton House Hotel and would both like to thank the staff for making out stay so memorable and fun. Cannot recommend this hotel enough. Great location to travel too many beautiful places within the Cotswolds and out of the way from any busy traffic. Nice local village pub if you want somewhere else to try a drink. Thanks again to all and wish you a Very Merry Christmas and looking forward to our next visit. Mike & Emma

We really do appreciate people taking the time to leave reviews, especially when it's as good as yours. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your recent Sunday lunch at Wroxton as I always think it's the best value meal of the week and a great social occasion. Hope to see you again in the New Year. Best wishes, Gill.

"Worthy of the high ratings but just short of excellent"

From the reviews this is clearly a very well run hotel. It's comfortable and the staff are friendly; the price was reasonable. Only short of excellent as the room was a bit small and 'motel'-like. Breakfast a little ordinary. But definitely recommended.

"Christmas Party & overnight stay"

08/12/2015

This is the 3rd year that our club have held our annual Christmas Party at the Wroxton House Hotel. The staff are welcoming, helpful and pleasant, the hotel is clean, cosy and comfortable, the food is excellent - often hotels fall down on mass catering at these events, not the Wroxton! No doubt we'll see you again next year.

"Exceptional"

There is nothing to fault at this hotel from the staff, décor, quality of food and overall service and experience. Although we only staying for 1 night we are booking to return in January, also later in 2016. THANK YOU!

"Exceeded all expectations "

As a party of six attending a wedding at a local venue, Wroxton House exceeded all expectations which is largely due to the wonderful staff. The rooms are spotless, the food was very good, the ambience is wonderful, but the staff were exceptional. The hotel was catering to both a Xmas Party and a Wedding on site during our stay and it would have been easy for the focus to be the larger parties; however the staff went out of their way to make sure that we were happy and took a genuine interest in our plans. Nothing was too much trouble. You can find good facilities in a number of venues, but never have we been made to feel so welcome in a UK hotel. Highly recommended.

"Comfortable"

Welcoming, comfortable hotel probably more suited to the middle and upper age range. First class staff and service. Clean, well maintained and thoroughly recommended for a quiet relaxing stay. A genuine effort to make your stay successful.

"Check Your Bill"

I was at the Wroxton House last Sunday, with family, for a special birthday lunch. A lovely hotel in a quaint village with plenty of parking. The reception is off to the left - not that obvious to find. The meal and waiting staff were excellent - I couldn't fault it. Unfortunately, when it came to the bill and receptionist, that was another matter. A word of warning be sure to check your bill. There were 12 of us having two and three courses. I was charged for 12 x three courses and then 12 x two courses. Also, the deposit had not been taken off. I had also been charged for someone else's 'orange juice and splash'. I pointed this out to Amanda who went to the bar to get a new bill issued. No word of apology. She came back and I stated again the deposit had not been taken off and the 12 coffees we had ordered back in the lounge were not included. Her reply was "leave the coffees, I'm not getting up and going down the stairs again, it won't do my back any good". I was most surprised at this unprofessionalism. All this took a good 20 minutes and those of us travelling a distance wanted to get on the motorway before it became very dark. On Monday morning I rang the hotel and spoke to Betty, who had been most helpful on the telephone when final confirmations were made on Saturday. Betty (& Margaret) are both professional and friendly. I explained the situation and that I wished to pay for the coffees. I said I'd also pay for the orange juice and splash as I couldn't be bothered with it anymore, but Betty kindly removed that and we dealt with the second bill. At least I got a genuine apology then. Why do the youngsters have a 'couldn't care less attitude'? When I rang on the previous Thursday, the young girl hadn't a clue. All in all we had a lovely time, it's just a shame this issue overshadowed things, but all was sorted by helpful Betty in the end. I recommend this hotel, but do thoroughly check your bill at the end.

Could not have asked for anything better. From the time of arrival to the time of leaving all of the staff were so helpful & nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent for the wedding breakfast & evening reception.Everything ran to time. Could not fault the hotel in anyway. The hotel rooms are spacious, modern & very clean. Would highly recommend

We got married here in November last year, fantastic hotel and wedding venue. For our first anniversary we returned and stayed the night again. Once again a fantastic experience, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely and our meal in the restaurant was brilliant. Overall we love staying here and cant wait to find another excuse to stay the night again, you are never disappointed and always feel very welcoming. A little gem of a hotel.

This was our second trip and it certainly won't be our last. The staff are the best we have come across and we do get about a lot. The rooms are comfortable with everything you need and everything works as it should - one of the best fixed over bath showers I have come across. The breakfast buffet has a good choice and the cooked breakfast was very good. We had a cream tea as part of our deal, next time we will ask for a cream tea for one on each day as it was very hard to resist and we could hardly move afterwards! The dinner menu gave plenty of choices and chef was very happy to make an alteration to a dish to suit me. The venison I had on the 2nd night was probably one of the best dinners I have had in many years. Congratulations to you all, our party of four were all very satisfied and we all agreed that we will be back soon.

This was a very positive stay in a good hotel. It deserves its high rating with tripadvisor. The rooms are comfortable, if a little small, and the beds excellent. The area is quiet and pleasant. Recommended.

The staff were welcoming and the room lovely. I even inquired about a picture in the bar area and received an email after i had checked out about where I could find the artist's web site. That is what I call service.

Enjoyed, but why would you reheat potatos.and its perfectley ok to use the lunch time lamb but it has to be cooked (or even reheated) proficiently. I am totally confused as you have always been good, is it just a one off or cost cutting ? No champagne by the glass but small bottles of proseca should have told me accountants may have taken over fron good hoteliars and good chefs. Always been one of my favourite places but ? Had a good night but sad.

Gill S, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Wroxton House Hotel, responded to this review
I am genuinely sorry that you felt our normal high standards, which you have experienced on previous visits, fell short on this occasion and I do wish you had mentioned this at the time to give us an opportunity to put it right for you Prosecco sales have risen by 74% in the UK in the last year and overtaken sales of Champagne for the first time which is why we made the decision to offer Prosecco by the glass. The small individual bottles have been a real hit with our guests and we do still have Champagne by the bottle for those who prefer it. I do hope we will have an opportunity to win you back and if you would like to contact me personally i will ensure you receive a complimentary upgrade on your next visit. Kind regards, Gill

"Charming hotel in quiet location"

31/10/2015

We stayed two nights on the weekend of October 10th at this hotel in the quiet village of Wroxton, just outside Banbury. We could not have made a better choice. In addition to Banbury, it is well-located for short trips to Oxford, Coventry, Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding countryside. The large car park is free and there was never a problem with finding a space, even with a wedding celebration on the Saturday evening. The hotel is in a collection of adjoined buildings, some very old with thatched roofs, but all are very well-maintained. The interiors are all updated and modern. The bar, lounges and dining room are beautifully decorated, cozy and comfortable. We stayed in a very clean, spacious and well-equipped executive king room on the second floor with a large modern bathroom. One of the highlights of this hotel are its staff. Invariably friendly and professional, they cannot do enough for you to make sure your stay is enjoyable. From the front desk to the bar and dining room, every one has a great attitude and top-notch customer service skills. They are all prepared and eager to do that "little extra" that makes such a difference when travelling. The breakfasts are plentiful and delicious with a good assortment of hot and cold dishes. We also had dinner here on the Sunday evening. The menu offered an excellent selection. Our choices were well-prepared, well-presented and delicious. The service was impeccable. Finishing the evening off with coffee and liqueurs in the bar near the fireplace, chatting with other guests, was the perfect end to the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Plus Wroxton House and would not hesitate to return. We highly recommend it, if you are in the area.

We have stayed in many Best Western and all types of Hotels and the Wroxton House Hotel is up there with the Top Hotels on our fairly short list.Rather than say how well they did in each area it's better to say it was virtually faultless. If you enjoy comfortable Hotels in the countryside where peace and quiet are important to you then this is for you.All the staff smile and offer there help to you.The Room we had was comfortable clean and had a very large comfortable Bed.Breakfasts are first class with everything you expect and then more. "Great Walking Holiday Base"

We regularly go with a walking party for four day stays around the country and voted our stay at Wroxton House the best yet. From start to finish, we were made to feel welcome and at home. Nothing seemed too much trouble, the organisation appeared to be seamless, the food was great and the hotel spotless. Without exception the staff were excellent, always friendly and helpful. Our party were totally enamoured with Wroxton and have all expressed a desire to return.

An excellent hotel based upon a string of (very old) cottages in this small village, fully and tastefully modernised within, with modern attached accommodation, and an excellent car park, Food very good, with a good and wide choice, a well stocked bar and varied lounge areas. All staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

After visiting the “Wroxton House Hotel” recently for business meetings, over several days. I found the function rooms and facilities met our groups every need. The Wroxton House hotel near Banbury is a delightful hotel. whilst the building and restaurant have old-world charm, the bedrooms are well appointed, comfortable and have the feeling of being recently refurbished. The staff are pleasant and efficient. The breakfast buffet had a modest selection and the delicious hot food was very quickly served.

Having stayed here for two nights we were very pleased with the overall service and friendliness of the staff here. The breakfast we could not fault and our room was lovely and fresh and clean looking with tea and coffee etc; replenished each day. We just wished we could have stayed longer, but do plan on returning again next year.

"Still as good as ever"

03/10/2015

The problem is that when you visit a place time after time, you are by the law of averages going to have a less than good experience. Well, I am prepared to take that risk and I am hopeful this will never happen. Consistently excellent, spotlessly clean, friendly attentive staff, very comfortable. Whether for business or pleasure it is the ideal venue.
