Hastily arranged visit, good facility for disabled parking,friendly reception especially when an error in double booking was reconciled. Slight disapiontment that dinning room was closed on a Sunday night, but service and bar menu choice was very good.Breakfast was a "trensher meal",with two of every thing. Steps and stairs to rooms etc, not the easiest for we "oldies" but level of comfort and, attention to detail more than compensated.Will certainly use again
This charming Hotel is easy to spot while passimg through Banbury, only the parking is bit tricky to find. Once you got lucky, parkimg accomodates even mid-size cars. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Some corner are at the edge of charming to worn - there some makeover in the near future might be appropriate. A good place to stay in walking distance to downtown historica Banbury.
Stayed here for one night while working in the area. Found the room very good for the price I paid, bed was really comfortable, signal on the tv was poor missing afew channels, decent size bathroom Breakfast was really nice and great value been in with the room price Only problem I had was the parking, there was a coach in the car park which took up half the spaces, there is underground parking for cars etc but most people parked in the car park so made it very hard for work van etc Would stay again thou
We were going to visit Bletchley Park and decided to stay in Banbury. The hotel has great parking facilities at the back of the building. Very close to the town centre, with lots of little pubs and restaurants. Our room was on the 2nd, nice and spacious, extremely clean and there was a fan in the room for the hot weather. Check in was swift and efficient, we arrived early, but the receptionist checked if our room had been cleaned, it had so we could go to the room. The breakfast in the morning was superb, great selection of cold meats, cheese and fruits. The hot menu had the usual English breakfast but also you could have kippers, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and even smoked haddock with poached eggs, all freshly prepared. Would totally recommend and would definitely return if I was in that neck of the woods again.
The staff were lovely and I would have liked to have given a higher mark for that reason but the rooms were so poor. When we arrived we were put on the second floor ( no lift ) I have a disability so when we realised how difficult it would be for me I asked if we could be moved to a ground floor room. The receptionist was so helpful and kind and sorted this out straight away. The first room we were given made me want to cry. It was so small and dark and really dated. The carpets were old and the bed had seen better days. Second room was an improvement but still not up to what I'd expected. The entrance to this hotel is splendid as was the bar and restaurant but the rooms were a massive shock. Will not be going back unless the rooms are seriously updated.
We are a friendship club from Battle in Sussex and 44 of us stayed in this hotel for the week. From the outset the staff were welcoming supportive and worked hard to make our stay a success. Porterage was spot on, the food was good, the rooms were pleasant and met our expectations.There was proper beer in the bar and the public areas of the hotel were light and airy with up to date decor.Throughout our stay the, well led, young team in the restaurant were pleasant hard working and did everything with good humour. Most important of all, the staff helped us happily whenever we needed it and showed that they really wanted us to have a good experience during our stay. They certainly succeeded in that and we wish to thank them for all that they did.This Hotel deserves to do well and We would certainly go there again.
A combination of soft old mattresses (that ones that can destroy a night of sleep). A smelly old room with poor quality of amenities and not very clean. I stayed at hostels with much better quality of service and cheaper.
On arrival staff were very helpful. Especially on helping me park coach for night. Bit of a task getting coach to rear of hotel. My room was very nice, food excellent. Overall, nice hotel. Couldn't wish for better staff full credit to all of them. A huge thank you to the lady who helped me sort out my coach. I believe she was the duty manager. We stayed one night and enjoyed the hotel and breakfast the next day. We walked into town and had dinner (five minutes). Overall, the building is in a good spot, there's plenty of parking, and the experience is worth the price.
Smooth check-in, friendly staff. Rooms are clean and spacious, bathroom with bath and toilet. Only downside is the carpet on the floor. Breakfast is really great: fast service, vast choice! Small parking lot in the back, very practical!
Got a very good value deal for an executive room with breakfast. The room was spacious but dated. I do prefer more modern decor. The room and bathroom were clean although we did have to ask for extra towels as only towels for one person. The over bath shower was a rather old fashioned one from the taps. The king size bed was very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep on the first floor. Our room was a long way from the central staircase with quite a lot of ups and downs to get to it. Not a problem for us with one small overnight bag but some might find it difficult. But we were happy that there was a room ready for our rather early check in. Breakfast was a cold buffet with hot food cooked to order. The freshness and quality of the hot food was very good. Rather uncomfortable chairs in the breakfast room which were low and more like armchairs. There were some standard dining chairs but all were occupied. We walked from the station which takes about 15 minutes but the latter part is uphill. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We would stay again.
This is the second time I have stayed here. Although outside looks a very old building, inside is something different. The lobby area and bar is very modern. We stayed in the Cherwell Suite, which is a lovely room. It is a nice, spacious room with a modern touch and a bay window. Despite the signs of damp in the bay window, the room was very warm. The wi-fi can be a bit slow at peak times, but it did the job. Although our room was very modern, from looking at pictures it seems that some of the rooms would need updating as they look quite outdated. The staff are very friendly here, in particular Naomi on Reception. Both stays she has been on duty and her attitude towards guests is fantastic. If only more hotels could have a Naomi! Being a hotel manager myself, this hotel ticks all of my boxes.We will definitely return.
Great place to stay as long as you don't have mobility problems. No lift...difficult to carry heavy suitcase up and down two flights of stairs.Help has to be asked for. Otherwise it was a very pleasant place to stay with handy car park (Steps up, no ramp) .Large comfortable room, dated but clean. Good breeakfast. Easy to walk in to town.
Stayed for a weekend with a wheelchair user who was excluded from all activities. Dining room, breakfast room, bar and reception, car park and even access to the bedroom did not comply with the Equality Act, which has been law since 2010. No personal evacuation plan agreed, and even then it would have to rely upon assistance in using a non-compliant ramp far steeper than the 1:12 minimum. The person who accompanied the wheelchair user gained back injury in the many attempts to get out i and of the hotel to the bedroom. The hotel staff were very friendly and did the best they could to accommodate the situation, however it was clear on their faces that they were struck by the impossibility of many of the tasks. The wheelchair user's weekend away was ruined and I would be very surprised if the hotel didn't often more than a 100% refund and a promise to make the hotel more accessible within the next 12 months. In doing so perhaps the hotel could employ that same wheelchair user to audit any changes and advise upon progression of improvements to the hotel.
Decent hotel near the town centre and about 20 minute walk from the station although there are bus stops nearby. Just a shame that it rained everyday! Hot water boiler broke down and nobody knew until I asked why I had no hot water but it was fixed with an hour.
Me and my friend stayed here for one night and I wasn't expecting anything amazing. God was I shocked when I walked in the reception!!! It is so well decorated and the staff were amazing and sooo helpful. Our room was a little dated but that didn't bother us based upon the prices we paid. All the staff wore smiles, even the cleaning staff!!! The beds were seriously comfy and bathroom was lovely and equipped with towels and bath mat. I really couldn't find a fault with the room. In the morning we went for the inclusive breakfast and it was delicious, the nicest bacon I've ever tasted!!!! We walked in and instantly greeted with a smiley waiter who asked us if we were here for breakfast and were seated immediately!!!!! We had tea and toast and a cooked breakfast and it was delicious. We stayed for Easter weekend and we even got an Easter egg from the staff for us to take home, as did everyone else in the restaurant!!!!!! I'm so happy with the service I received and definitely recommend to anybody. The bad reviews should be ignored.
Stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a course I was on for work. Easy to get to just off the M40 with lots of parking. Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful when I arrived late in the evening. The room I stayed in had a comfy bed but was a single room so was a bit cramped in it! The room and bathroom were both very clean and seemed well looked after. Shower was hot with good water pressure. Breakfast in the morning is tasty (continental buffet and then they take your order for cooked) but the breakfast room is quite small for the size of the hotel but I seemed to get lucky and it was never particularly busy when I got there early (around 7:15) each day. Coffee is pretty strong if you feel you'll need it! Nice hotel, can tell its a bit dated but the facilities and staff are more than nice enough to make up for it. For the purposes of a business trip or just as a base to come back to you can't really go wrong.
Stayed for 3 nights in the Blenheim Suite. Very large room and bathroom, jucuzi bath. Comfortable bed and separate seating area, only negative was that the decoration of the room is slightly dated. Breakfast room is small for the size of the hotel, however freshly cooked food is a bonus.
Stayed 4 nights in the noisiest room i've ever had, facing the main road and next to the main stairs.Ear plugs essential. Room was dated but adequate. Breakfast average at best,luckily Wetherspoons in easy reach for evening meals
We stayed here for 2 nights over New Year when we came to Banbury to visit family. Check in was very straightforward and our room was spacious, warm and overlooked the Oxford Road. The Hotel has a night porter who was extremely helpful enabled access to the Hotel for late arrivals such as ourselves on New Year's Eve when we had gone out in Banbury town. There was a big New Year's Eve party in the hotel but this was winding up when we arrived back. The room and bed were extremely comfortable and we had a very good night's sleep and had no noise disruption from traffic. The breakfast was great and had a great deal of choice and the twin ding rooms are either enclosed or overlooking the Oxford Road which is very pleasant. During the afternoon I spent some time in the bar reading the paper and the staff were extremely helpful and allowed me to choose the TV channel which was nice for background noise. On the second night we stayed in the bar for a drink with family which was very pleasant and the barman was extremely courteous advising of closing times. Once again the night porter was on duty and extremely helpful and we had a good conversation about the hotel and Banbury ion general before I went to my room for relaxing night's sleep before we were due to check out. On our final morning on 2nd January we enjoyed breakfast overlooking the Oxford Road watching people returning to work before checking out. Overall, thoroughly recommended. Very helpful staff and rooms and breakfast were excellent during our stay. Would definitely stay again. I should add that it was really nice to stay here during the Christmas holiday as all of the trees and decorations were up which was lovely to see!
We had a good stay & were happy with the hotel for the price. It's an attractive character property with ample free parking & a superb location close to town. The interior is nicely done, well kept & has a boutiquey feel despite having 64 rooms. Front desk staff were friendly & helpful as were all restaurant/bar crew. Rooms are quite simple & would benefit from a spruce up but ours was spacious, quiet, & beds comfortable. Some rooms including ours have a split level bathroom which we loved but may not suit everyone. Extra brownie points awarded for plentiful hangers & drawer space. We ate once in the restaurant & food was mediocre, the menu unthrilling & the dining room lacking in ambience & people - though I believe the hotel gets the bulk of its business from mid week trade & this was a weekend. To sum up - the hotel does a good job for the money, has a capable, friendly team. & we would return (but would eat out).
A lovely hotel which has been refurbished to a high standard. Nicely decorated for Christmas. The room was big and clean but I did find the bed uncomfortable. Nice breakfast but unfortunately no marmite which my partner particularly wanted. We had a bit of an issue at checkout over the price but was sorted by the Manager.
This was a good hotel with excellent service from smiling cheerful staff who were always happy to help and advise you.The rooms were clean and cosy and the breakfast very good,The hotel position within walking distance was a bonus.
At the departure we were stuck at the car park due to weather/snowing, and Dora from the staff was been extremely helpful by helping us to make sure that removed the vehicle safely and personally helping to clean the path - would like to say a big thank you from the whole bunch of us at DHL, thanks to her we managed to come home safely and on time.
The staff in this hotel are very friendly and efficient this morning we woke to snow and our grandson built a snowman they got him a carrot and some raisins for his nose and eyes well beyond the call of duty but very important when you are 6,a big thank you to them.The room was very clean and warm and the breakfast excellent .
Pleasant stay though extremely noisy due to Christmas parties on both Friday and Saturday nights. This was dealt with by the Duty Manager efficiently and quickly. The staff were all very helpful. The rooms are a little outdated and the lack of a lift is an issue as you can't get to the restaurant without climbing a few stairs.
Waited ages for too cold pint of beer. Apologetic young waiter. Long wait for food. No warning that they were hectic elsewhere otherwise Id have hone down the road for a curry. Room small but ok and location handy for where I need to be. WiFi free so good. Large screen tv good. Desk a bit small for working.
We had a winter saver offer and arrived at the hotel to stay two nights 25th/26th of November and were allocated room 134, very nice room and spotless but no heating and was told by reception it was on a timer and would come on at 5pm how ever they did over ride this and turned it on. At this time of year it would be nice to have a warm room on arrival and not an ice box. Evening meal very limited menu and for the money not something we would do again. On retiring to bed we found an instruction on the window not to open it we now know why, the noise from some sort of generator running 24hrs was diabolical resulting in very little sleep. On the morning we told reception about the noise and to their credit moved us to another room [Bloxham Suite] which was very nice. At breakfast on the Monday morning a couple told us that had been in a room they could not stay in due to the generator noise and had been moved other couples had the same problem in several rooms [ this hotel has a serious problem with the generator noise]. Breakfast was good on both mornings, no resturant service on the Sunday night only a limited bar menu which ment we had to find else where to eat, the staff are very good and do a good job given the tools they have to work with. The managment of the Banbury House Hotel need to up their game and give customers a better experience. GD
What can I say a fantastic Sunday Lunch with my other half and his family! Staff were lovely, food was fantastic and well portioned and a great price!!! The waiter was superb and really well organised and helpful, we all had the set menu, three courses and it was delicious! Well done!!!
We stayed here while on a coach trip to the Cotswolds and found that staff were very friendly upon arrival and during our stay. Although the room decor was quite dated, it had all the essentials we needed for a one night stay. The room got quite hot at night, but we slept well and thought the bed was clean and comfortable. Our evening meal was fantastic, with three courses that were fresh and delicious. Drinks at the bar were moderately priced which is expected at hotels. We had a great stay and would recommend to anyone wanting to stay right near the centre of Banbury.
Although we only stayed for one night we were very pleased with everything and plan to stay longer next time and make use of all it has to offer. Clean, friendly, ample parking, good location and not expensive. Although breakfast is not served until 8am on Saturday they accommodated us arriving 15 minutes early to aid our early departure and were prompt with the food etc. Very nice breakfast.
Stayed for 3 nights when visiting relatives. Compared to other hotels we have tried in town this was excellent. At £58 a night it was more that £30 less a night than competitors and the rooms and decor were much superior. Didn't have breakfast in house so can't comment on the food. We shall be going here every time in future.
Stayed here and it was good enough for a stopover. The lobby area is very modern but the rooms could do with some modernising. Everything was functional, although our bathroom was a bit strange in that the toilet was right next to the door which was a bit weird as the bathroom was huge so could have easily been moved. Breakfast the next day was very nice, liked how it was all cooked to order and plenty to choose from. Perhaps could offer veggie sausages for breakfast though.
Horrible experience at this hotel. Poor staffing with many having a language barrier. Very tired hotel in desperate need of a refit. We were given pint glasses for out gin and tonic and e bar man fifth know what brandy was and tried giving my friend various other drinks. Parking is very overpriced at £20 a night especially when is is advertised as valet service but you end up parking the car yourself as the porter gas gone home at 8:00pm. This hotel is well priced because it is desperate. I would recommend spending a little extra per night and get a much better hotel, service and experience. I will never return here and would prefer to sleep in my car than this hotel.

I have just returned from leading a group holiday staying at Banbury House. The food was very good, waiters excellent, the reception welcoming and helpful and the bedrooms spotless. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.
We booked in for a significant birthday away from home for two nights. Fortunately Google Maps was spot on as without it we would not have found the hotel. Georgian shell well fitted out in a modern style. As Best Western loyalty scheme members we got an upgrade to what was termed a suite. Actually a large room, goodness knows what the ordinary rooms are like. Decor was very tired with wallpaper splitting and curtains not matching. Furniture was not working for occupants neither suiting business or tourist travelers. NO FRIDGE unlike other BW houses. Our request and their promise to make our stay special had not been transmitted to the duty staff. Initial occupation of the room was a struggle. However, the Portuguese duty manager and his wife rescued the situation. After that they got into their stride. Bed that felt soft was actually a great nights sleep. Breakfast was cooked to order- a real rarity these days. Scrambled egg was far too salty though. The hotel is the only one in "town " as the others are on the ring road serving business travelers. Well located and 10-15minutes walk from the town centre. We elected to have dinner in the hotel on the second night as Banbury is not blessed with a great restaurant scene. Small menu well cooked and presented. Overall a very pleasant stay after the shaky start.
Spent many nights here. Staff are friendly and professional. Restaurant was not as good I one would hope, small portions and just not as good as it should be. Room was OK clean and bed was very comfortable. The parking can get busy, but never went without a space. Not a flagship best western but it's OK. Tip to the owner, go to the best western at Buckingham, look at the salads and hot meals....the service and quality.... You can learn a few tricks here.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights whilst motogp was on. The hotel is very well situated to get to Silverstone. It takes about 20 minutes to get there...maybe longer to get back! It's located in Banbury town centre and all shops, pubs and restaurants are in walking distance. The hotel has a very friendly feel to it...from the ladies on reception to the staff behind the bat to all the waitresses at breakfast, the service was excellent. We ate at the hotel on one of the nights and found the food really nice. Breakfast is amazing. Cereals and pastries are buffet service but everything else is ordered from the extensive menu and cooked freshly. I suppose my only niggle would be the room. It was fine...lovely and clean and reasonable size but I'd say it's in need of an update. The bed was a bit squidgy for my liking. Apart from that it was perfect and we won't hesitate to come back again next year!
It is one of the best hotel with very suitable bad , I have never meet better bad in my life at the other hotel. Also when I disscused with one person from Germany about quality of hotel he mentioned that he was in UK in the same place , also he confirm my opinion. Very good choice.
We arrived as part of a coach tour on the Monday and were allocated room 107.Looking out of the window onto a flat roof we could see an extractor fan just yards away.This , as we later found out, was on all day until 11pm , before starting-up again between 5-6am.With the bennefit of hindsight we should have asked to change rooms as this definitely, despite wearing ear plugs, affected our quality of sleep.Apart from this the room was fine.We were booked on half-board basis and were among the 23 coach passengers dining in our own room.There seemed to be an issue with the late arrival of the porridge some mornings and there was the odd gripe about the service , which at times was on the slow side, but overall I thought it was up to the relatively high standard of other Best Western hotels I have stayed in.
Have stayed here for 3 nights in August for the last 27 years. Well appointed, friendly and welcoming staff, comfortable non smoking rooms with en-suite facilities. No lift, many rooms convoluted walk from Reception, involving stairs. Only eaten breakfast in restaurant, wide choice of continental and full English fare. part buffet, part waiter service. Mildly irritating tendency to deliver next course before checking previous course has been eaten! Room service available. Not the cheapest hotel accommodation. Car parking adequate but a little cramped for peak demand. Busy, experienced wedding party catering, though not tried. Suitable for business needs or tourism in the area. Wi-fi. 3 suites and self catering options available. Walking distance of Banbury Cross and town centre.
This was not my first stay here. Absolutely fantastic the staff were exceptionally polite couldn't do enough to help. The modernisation of the public area's fantastic, bedrooms need a little updating but are very clean, and well equipped.
This hotel is on a very busy noisey road, so when I checked in I asked if it would be possible to have a quiet room. The receptionist immediately snapped back "did you request one when you booked" ? I pointed out that when I booked the room I wasn't aware the hotel was on a main road. After some huffing I was passed a key and assured this was a very quiet room. Well, if this was a quiet room the others must have been as noisey has having a bed on runway number 1 at Heathrow airport. My room was right against the road at the front. I couldn't be bothered to walk all the way back to reception to be asked to be moved . . . what feels like a 10 minute walk through a maze of corridors. The room was dusty and very dated. The hotel is very tatty and dated. Carpets are all thread bear. At breakfast I arrived at 0650 to be told, sorry snapped at, that chef doesnt start until 7am and she, the waitress, would not take my order. The room was full of men in suits all tapping their fingers waiting for the. Lock to hit 7 and the waitress who was milling around to take their order. This hotel does not do service or anything else particularly well. For the money they charge it represents very poor value. But I guess they thrive on the la k of competition. In future I will be staying at the Premier Inn.
The room was small. The bed was too small for a double. It was also too soft for my taste, I think the springs were collapsed. Be aware that there is no lift. The reception staff weren't good. We booked a double, we only got one key card. I asked for another but was told "People often don't return them and they are expensive so if you can manage with just one, we would appreciate it". We often book Best Western because they are usually reliably good. We will be staying somewhere else on our next visit to Banbury
We use this hotel when attending family gatherings nearby. There appears to have been a wholesale redecoration, with a nice new bar on the main floor, and better carpeting and furnishings in the rooms. There is no elevator, but the helpful staff were very quick to find a ground floor room for our friend who was on crutches. Breakfast is good, cooked to order except on Sunday. A good choice in Banbury.
This is a very nice hotel situated a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Banbury. The room I stayed in was medium sized but had a full sized bathroom. The bed was a little soft for my taste, but still comfortable. I stayed on one of the hottest days in June & felt like I was melting! There was a fan provided in the room, but unfortunately this did little to help. Air conditioning would have been great! The restaurant is light & modern. The food is excellent, though the full English breakfast served in the morning was on the small side.
Superb room. Food was amazing. This hotel is a credit to this hotel chain. The manageress was so helpful. Highly recommended. Only 20 miles from Oxford. 25 minute drive from bicester designer shopping outlet. Intended to stay for one night but decided to exstend my stay. Plenty of things to do and see in banbury. Will deffinately return to stay here.
Spent one night stay whilst attending an exhibition at Silverstone. Check in was quick and room was basic but pleasant enough for one night. The window in the room would not stay open and required the ministrations of a member of the bar staff to fix the problem - housekeeping staff were all away home. On close inspection the entire window frame was in poor condition and probably could do with replacement. It was very warm in the room and despite the window bring open and the fan being on it was uncomfortable. I ate in the bar on the promise of watching the Europa League Final. The food was good and the service excellent - managed by Nikki with a smile. However the television set top box was not working meaning we saw about 15 minutes of the first half. Disappointing.
We stayed in Banbury house in May 2017. It was a great place from where we got to explore the cotswolds and oxford. The hotel is in a georgian house but has recently been updated. It is what you expect from a Best Western. Good standards: clean, good breakfast with warm eggs etc freshly made after order (included), wonderful room with strong shower (!). There were some meetings in the hotel but we found there was enough parking. If needed, the staff will show you spaces of what you think is next door, but turns out to be part of premises. Banbury itself does not have the same atmosphere as the villages we visited. Therefore we chose go drive out each evening for a pub in one of the surrounding villages. Some great places around in only 5 minutes. We booked this as part of package with Stenaline NL: great value for money! Highlights of Cotswolds, Oxford an Blenheim within a thirty minute drive.
Stayed here for 2 nights attending a wedding nearby. Great location for exploring Banbury, parking at the rear and the staff were as helpful and friendly as they could be. Rooms a little tired but clean and comfortable, we got upgraded to a suite and the room was very spacious.
Stayed for one night on B&B basis. Check in was friendly and efficient. Our room was very large and comfortable, huge bed, flat screen TV, plenty of tea/coffee etc. Bathroom large with full size bath, lovely toiletries and large towels. Breakfast was excellent, cold table had cereals, fruit, juice and pastries etc followed by waitress served full English, all cooked well and delicious. The downstairs areas (bar, lounge, restaurant and reception etc) have all been refurbished to a very high standard. Other good points, location is a few minutes walk into town and there is plenty of private car parking space behind the hotel.
Stayed for 1 night, foyer and bar area nicely decorated since I last visited. Room was large and comfortable but the pipes were noisy and disturbed my sleep. Breakfast was fresh and tasty although more room is required for juices and cerial.
This hotel has a comfy bed, it was softer on one side I suspect it was due to wear never the less I slept very well. Quiet surroundings short walk down to town center with a few restaurants. I have to warn you that there is no air conditioning so I suspect the room to be quite hot in mid summer. But when I was there it was just right. Breakfast buffet is quite poor, only ham and cheese and some serials, but the staff will cook you something hot from a breakfast menu. You might want to add some extra breakfast time for that. The breakfast restaurant is also quite small, so avoiding the rush hour is also a top tip.
It does not matter how much or little you spend the service and quality of the food is so good it makes the day better. Not only does the Hotel look inviting from the outside it is also bright, cheerful and relaxing on the inside and always a pleasure to visit.
We upgraded as a treat, the room was fantastic, clean, comfy and very bright. The food was very tasty, (warm breakfast plates would have been lovely) All Staff were helpful well polite, visible and keep very busy.
After being let down at a hotel we had booked, we came across this one. Two delightful young ladies on reception, very bubbly and helpful, hotel was very clean with great food. The only downfall was the bar, very poor selection, no brandy of any form, not a lot of choice on draught, and limited bottled stock. Breakfast was lovely, again with great service. Would recommend if you are in the area.
Stay here most weeks and the welcome is warm and pleasant. Always willing to help and accommodate you if they can. Most rooms are modern, some older room. Great value for money. Lounge has recently been modernised and is excellent, new menu is good quality and reasonably priced. Give it a go and see for yourselves, if you can get a room which speaks louder than any review!!
We stayed here on a family visit for a whole week, My boy was sick and happened to throw up on the bed the first night and the staff was so helpful to get new sheets and bedding and asked the next day how he was, great service minded staff. Breakfast was great and waiting staff very friendly and helpful to accommodate for my boys food needs as he isn't used to full English breakfast. Hotel is positioned close to the road but you dont here much noise from outside, Rooms are a little outdated and a little uneven on the floors but its a very old building and that gives it character. Room service was great really nice food that was very nicely cooked, great flavour.
Absolutely beautiful hotel. Upon arrival we were met by the lovely Gabby. Friendly and very helpful. Rooms were immaculate and the hotel was spotless. All staff were brilliant. Could not have chose a better hotel. Infact not even going to try. We shall book here every visit. Thank you for a fantastic weekend. Well done x
We had a great time at the BW Banbury Late booking rang direct as their website suggests and was given an extra bit off the price online arrived parked easily reception staff were brilliant very nice and even given the use of our room before allotted time room was very clean and spacious bed was massive 3 sets of pillows next morning breakfast was lovely and when we left we were again given great service by Gabby and Nikki on reception thanks Banbury
Location is good, parking is a nightmare, lobby and public areas modern and really nice, bedrooms dated, 80's feel! Staff need customer training Breakfast room too small and a nightmare, food not replenished, long wait over half an hour for hot food, beds soft and saggy. Not a patch on Wroxton Hotel 10 minutes away
We were en route to Broadway to use a gift stay so rather than waste a day travelling we came down to Banbury the night before. First, possibly a slight niggle, our room was adequate but then we obtained the same through supermarket vouchers and to be fair Best Western accommodated us despite the supermarkets allocation having been used up - The room was clean and functional with the usual tea/coffee facilities and the bed was comfortable. The access would be difficult for lesser abled as it is up and down stairs throughout the building. The reception, lounge and bar are very well presented I dare to say immaculate. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and here a special mention for Janet (and her young assistant she appeared to be training whose name I did not get) who served our breakfast - She was most friendly and very attentive. The review is slightly down due to he bedroom but all in all a very pleasant place to stay.
Booked in for one night only last Thursday for a single room. Late arriving, however, welcoming staff. Offered room service Prompt and very well presented Wake up call - good job as slept so soundly. Satisfying breakfast Buffet and a cooked to order Very friendly staff Enjoyed my stay enough to book another night this Thursday. This time trying the double room just to give me a tad more space
Good hotel in the centre of Banbury. Easy to find and convenient for the town centre. There is parking but it is a little tight. The reception area and bar have been done up recently and looks very stylish. The bedrooms area little dated but perfectly functional. Staff were friendly and keen to help. Would visit again.
We hired conference room and hot and cold buffet with puddings and coffee. there was 16 adults and 6 kids, the food was brilliant and plenty of it. All staff where brilliant. We had amazing time everyone enjoyed it. Thank you Banbury House Hotel and Carina for all your help.
Friendly welcome. Good location close to town centre. Plenty parking. Shower was a poor dribble, apart from that, room was adequate for our needs. Comfortable beds. Plenty tea bags and milk! On a main road so traffic is noisy so ask for a room at the back. Only meal we had was breakfast which was lovely - cooked to order - great selection. All staff were lovely. If we return to the area will definitely stay again
The location is fabulous - a five minute walk into Banbury centre from the hotel. It's characterful with its central staircase and most welcoming, comfortable and clean. All of the staff were friendly and efficient and happily accommodated my requests, particularly the Reception staff. I had a really lovely stay - thank you so much :-)
The hotel itself is quite nice and not poorly located to have a short walk to many of the local restaurants and pubs. The one thing keeping this from getting a 5 would be the breakfast service. It's very slow and the food is sometimes not cooked as requested.
well visited this hotel a couple of years ago when working in the area. it wasn't the first choice but Banbury during the week is a difficult place to get hotel rooms and wasn't exactly impressed then. stayed at the hotel last week and was dreading it but What a Transformation .... the owners have finally spent some money on the place and the hotel looks sharp now. enjoyed the visit and the food and if the rates are right will be back. the hotel seems busier as well compared to last time.... keep it up
Visited for an overnight stay 29/30 October. Having a severely disabled wife who requires the attention of two carers I telephoned the hotel to book a disabled room for myself and my wife and a twin room for her carers. During the conversation I checked whether or not there were any steps to negotiate, whether the disabled bathroom had a shower unit and if the dining room was on the same level as the disabled room. I was assured that there were no steps to be negotiated and that the dining room was on the same level. Upon arrival we found the entrance for a wheelchair was up two deep steps at the side of the building which required a ramp to gain access. The ramp the hotel provided was so short that it made a 45 degree angle and was extremely dangerous. Once shown to our room we discovered that the disabled bathroom was cramped and not suitable for anyone requiring carers to assist and that the shower required stepping up into rather than being at floor level. The shower itself was highly dangerous and very slippy. We had asked whether we could have sheets and blankets on the bed rather than a duvet and had been told this was possible, however on our arrival we discovered that the bed was still made with a duvet. In addition, outside there was a boiler flue outside the bedroom which made such a noise that it was impossible to get a decent sleep. We booked a table for breakfast for 4 people, which included my wife in her wheelchair, as there was only one table which was suitable. Having attempted to get this table three times in the morning, we were eventually given a table outside of the restaurant in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs, between the stairs, dining room and kitchen and which was nothing more than a "wind tunnel" with staff and guests passing by continually. The ramp for the side door access is not readily available and someone from reception has to be called to assist with the placement of the ramp. I would suggest that this is a serious fire risk, as if there were an emergency, how would anyone needing to exit the building this way be able to. Finally, during our stay, at no time did we ever see anyone from the management to whom we could raise these problems. I have written a letter to the hotel raising these points but I would definitely suggest to any disabled persons wishing to stay here that they look elsewhere for more "disabled friendly" accommodation.
My wife and I stayed here over a weekend and were quite satisfied with the overall experience. Check-in was carried with the minimum of fuss in a polite manner. Our room was on the second floor and was of a reasonable size with the usual complementary tea and coffee tray. Although the decor looked dated it was clean, as was the bathroom. The only down side was that the bed was on the soft side, we preferring firm beds. I also noted that some room doors were very close to each other, therefore inconsiderate neighbours could be a problem if they are slamming their door closed. There is a small bar near reception but during our stay there was a restricted selection available. The restaurant is quite small but more than adequate during our stay although on the Sunday morning it was hectic with some delays. The delays were dealt with efficiently by the staff who, without exception, were pleasant and helpful. With food being cooked to order there is a wait but both dinner and breakfast were tasty and well presented.
Stayed for one night - wasn't sure what to expect as I had seen mixed reviews. The reception and bar area have been recently refurbished to a very high standard. Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and comfortable. Double bed on the small side and not the most comfortable but fine for our stay. The bar area was lovely & cosy for a drink after dinner. Did not eat at the hotel - £15 for breakfast is far too much. Dora on reception on our departure was so helpful and friendly - she was delightful! We were able to leave our car in the car park after check out which was a bonus. Would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful Georgian building to spend sometime at, great position to walk into town or walk along the peaceful Oxford canal. The reception, bar and dinner room have been very tastefully refurbished. The room we had was spotless ,very spacious and charming. The staff were exceptionally attentive and pleasant which make a difference to a stay at this hotel. Food we had for breakfast and dinner was very tasty with a good choice of reasonable priced wines. We would return to this hotel at the drop of a hat. So well placed for visiting the Cotswolds . I certainly recommend a visit to this Best Western Hotel.
My wife and I have stayed here a number of times in the past and stayed this time for one night. We were welcomed by a very pleasant receptionist and check-in was uncomplicated and quick. We had a king executive room located some way from reception and to the rear of the hotel which is good as there is no traffic noise at the back. The Bed was excellent and a large en-suite with a good size shower, although I could not get the water temperature just right, and had to settle for a rather Luke-warm shower. At breakfast we asked if the mushrooms were fresh and were told they were, however on tasting them we were convinced they were tinned. Apart from that the Cooked breakfast was hot and of good quality and the fried eggs excellent. We will certainly stay here in future.
From what I understand, they have been renovating this hotel. Location was great and we checked into the Blenheim room and to say we were disappointed is an understatement. The bed was comfortable however the seating areas were of poor quality, small and worn. The worst part was the wallpaper. Seams separating and bubbling and areas of patching. Just not worth the money we paid but breakfast although good was a long time coming and we were the only ones waiting on it.
This place has just had a big refurb and seem to have sacrificed every aspect of customer service in the process. The restaurant is far too small so eat somewhere else and don't expect to eat breakfast in a hurry, there aren't enough tables, they are too close together and the kitchen staff can't keep up. Great food but served in a gimmicky frying pan which made it impossible to eat - shame that i had to send half of it back, but I had no means of eating it. Shame that this place has put image and appearance above everything, the bar is a real heath robinson set up which the receptionist is supposed to operate in his/her spare time. OK as a business stop over but if you are looking for a nice stay - look eleswhere
nice entrance way which has been recently refurbed. room is quite basic but was clean and functional. better curtains would be helpful as the ones in place did not cover the sides of the window and it appeared as though there must have been a lamp post of something near my window. staff were pleasant and the food in the restaurant was nice enough. my only problem was that around 3am a group of people congregated outside of my window and woke me up chatting however, I was likely unlucky.
Booked a room with a "walk-in" shower (why don't all hotel rooms have these?), which turned out to be furthest from Reception, and quite an assault course of corridors and stairs to negotiate (no lift either!). But the room was clean and comfortable, though lacking those extra touches that make a stay memorable; like no bottled water, no biscuits with the meagre tea making facilities, no free shampoo or conditioner. The staff were friendly, and welcoming, and the evening meal in the restaurant very good. All in all a satisfactory stay, but we will not be rushing back, there was nothing exceptional to make it stand out from the rest.
quaint hotel, good distance from the town for a wander, fantastic and friendly reception. Rooms comfortable but not overly flash. Snower good ( i like the purple shower gel) Dinner quiet nice and attentive staff. Breakfast really good with a great hot choice cooked fresh ( kippers yum) Parking onsite Internet could be a bit stronger in the room but was ok sitting in the lounge area.
Very nice stay here over the last few days. Have refurblished hotel since we were last here and this has made a great difference to the overlook and feel of the outside and inside decoration. Well done! Very nice room and excellent breakfast. Couldn't fault it..
Being only a few minutes walk from the centre of town I was not expecting too much. But the rooms were good and had a view over the town and the countryside beyond. The staff were all very helpful (copies of suggested walks) and the bar service with food was all very reasonable. Breakfast was average though. Having only ordered half of the items on the cooked breakfast (egg, bacon and fried bread) I think it is a bit stingy to then only have one piece of bacon and tiny bit of bread. It was also odd to get up each time for a cup of coffee (not very hot and out of a thermos) but pots of tea were delivered to the table - why not the same for coffee? Overall though a very good stay
I stopped in this lovely hotel last month, and I was very pleased with the hotel and all the staff I met. My room was lovely and I really enjoyed stopping in it The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and a very good selection was available for everyone's taste. Would I stop again? Yes defiantly
I stayed here a few months ago in the middle of refurbishments and it was not the best given the work being done however I decided to not write a review until work was completed. Well I'm back again and although work has been completed i am a little confused... The reception area bar breakfast area and main staircase has been beautifully upgraded. However when you head upstairs you step back in time as none of the rooms have been touched and it looks like a sad 1980s style hotel. Old fashioned small rooms good TVs poor wifi. No double glazing which is annoying as there is a very busy road outside. I came down for breakfast and not enough places for diners???? They had an overspill room which was not set up. It's an ok hotel but I think I will be staying at the Wroxton as they are charging more £120 b&b for no where near the service you receive elsewhere. Look forward to seeing the rooms done properly.
Stayed here for 3 nights. I needed to be near my sisters house so it was a great location in the centre of Banbury. I have to say the staff were lovely. My big issue/challenge was that I was coming from the USA for a couple of weeks and had a suitcase. There isn't any lift/elevator in this hotel and my room was so far away, having to navigate a few staircases and fire doors. That being said they did offer to help when departing. I found out that because it's a listed building, they are not permitted to put a lift in. So, forewarned is forearmed. Breakfast was included and the waitress each morning could not have been any nicer. For me, it was the type of property I needed simply because I needed a bed for the night.
This was my second visit as part of a group in a couple of months, the first was marginally better, but for a Best Western I expected much better. There was no draught beer in the bar, actually no keg beer either only very cold bottles in their fridge - you don't keep real ale in a fridge. There was only one person serving most of the time & we were a group of about 50 (it hadn't been any better on the previous visit when numbers were nearer 80. The pate starter had absolutely no flavour. The salmon came with a dill sauce already on it, no option not to have it. On a very hot, steamy night the dessert was sticky toffee pudding, the saving grace was 3 of us who asked for an alternative got a very good sorbet. And finally the coffee was like treacle
Generally good, the room was a decent size, and comfortable and the staff were very polite and helpful. Unfortunately the rooms weren't very sound proof, so could hear people talking in next room. The floors creaked a lot, and no double glazing. So being at the front, could hear the traffic quite clearly. Was very well placed for a short walk in town at night, and a short drive to Silverstone every day. Would stay again, having said this, though.
Stayed here for a two day business trip and I would say it was ok. The interior is quite old but clean and charming. Weak W-Lan on the rooms. The breakfast however was really good as it is in many places in the UK. You can choose various version of eggs(scrambled etc.) which were freshly made for you. Several juices, cheeses, marmelades etc. as well. I would choose this hotel again on my next trip to Banbury if I would have to.
We booked 3 night stop over the Bank Holiday weekend with a view to using the hotel as base for the Cotswolds. Having stayed at a very tired Best Western the previous week our expectations were low. However, from the moment we walked in the staff were friendly and went the extra mile. The reception was bright and airy and our room had been recently redecorated. Breakfast was pretty decent too and the hotel was well place for the Cotswolds, Warwick, Stratford upon Avon and Banbury itself. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. In order to get an excellent score from us the room could have benefitted from air con and not a fan and breakfast on one of the days was a bit chaotic given a large Golden Wedding party.
Its a nice hotel but just misses being excellent the hotel appears to be a few seperate houses combined into one breakfast is very nice but the waiting staff are not all as sharp as could be as they don't clear quickly or notice the users needs
stayed overnight at this hotel when attending our nephew's wedding and the only fault was no lift and many rooms are a long way from reception. We found the staff extremely helpful and in particular the housekeeper Sharon who was absolutely wonderful and found us a room nearer.. Also Dora on reception and our breakfast waitress Janet. The room (116) was a bit small but light and clean. It was good to have a bathroom with a window rather than just a stale smelling extractor system as most are these days. There is also adequate free parking. We would certainly stay there again.
This hotel was booked for a business stay, the reviews showed that the hotel had recently under gone refurbishment but like all the Best Western Hotels I have stayed in this hotel was just as bad. The hotel reception had indeed been refurbished which looked quite welcoming unfortunately this does not extend to the bedrooms which are tired, old and tatty, I stayed in a standard room which was well worn, a small room with a double bed with lumpy pillows and a creaky sloping floor! The room faced the main road with only single glazing so was noisy with traffic, being a shift worker I asked to be moved but this was declined, had the booking not been made by my company I would of walked out as the room was not worthy of the price, there are a lot better budget hotels offering far better quality in the area, in fact a woman was complaining about the poor quality of her room at the time of my stay. Unfortunately the majority of the staff were of Eastern European origin and had a poor understanding of English which did not help when trying to resolve a problem. Breakfast was served in a small dining room, which gets full quickly and you have to wait for a table, a small limited continental buffet breakfast is available and a full English breakfast is cooked to order. A very limited bar and restaurant menu is available at lunch times and evening times, at the time of my visit the restaurant was closed due to a wedding party and is closed on Sunday's. I did however use the restaurant on the Monday and wish I hadn't as the burger I ordered was undercooked and gave me the runs! THIS HOTEL IS BEST AVIODED
We were in a room, that was as far away from reception as you could get, up on the second floor with no lift. The room was clean and comfortable and staff were friendly. Breakfast was good on two of the three mornings, but on the Sunday was meagre. Bar prices were high, and restaurant menu was not good. However, we were within walking distance of the town, with many restaurants, which we went to.
This is our second time at this hotel, the first time was last year when it was being refurbished, this time it's all done and looks great, we are Best Western Platinum card holders but they still looked after us, the room was very clean and very comfortable. We will defiantly return to this hotel when we have the chance, not far from the town centre which as lots of shops within walking distance, we wished we had stopped longer now but could only stop one night this time
Good quality hotel; the communal areas, rooms and dining room were all to a high standard. The rooms we had were on the second floor: this involved carrying luggage up 40 stairs as there was no lift, although it appeared that assistance was available from staff if required. There were also a few rooms on the ground floor for disabled use (although the access to the hotel did not seem the most wheelchair-friendly) A code is provided on check-in for the wi-fi, which seemed to work fine in all areas of the hotel. The room itself was clean and to a good standard, as was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable and a telephone available to contact reception if required The bar had fairly comfortable seating and a reasonable range of drinks at a price comparable to most hotels We pre-paid for breakfast at the hotel. There was a reasonable selection of cereals, meats, cheeses and breads for continental breakfast. The cooked breakfast was a little expensive for what was provided: only 1 of each item was provided, regardless of how many types of items were requested All in all it was a reasonable accommodation as a stop-over point mid-journey at a good standard for the price.
This is a lovely hotel just a few minutes walk from the town centre. It has lots of character, being made up of several Georgian houses knocked into each other. It is a bit of a rabbit warren inside with long corridors and steps everywhere. I spent four nights here on a coach tour. There is an air of old fashioned hospitality. Suitcases are delivered to your rooms for you - and this is one of the few hotels which doesn't make coach tours feel like second class citizens. I had a pleasant room, a small double, at the end of a corridor overlooking the car park at the back of the hotel. It was quiet, nicely furnished and clean. It might have been a bit snug for two but there was plenty of room for me. It had pleasant decor with cream beige walls and carpet and rust and brown curtains. There was a small flat scree TV, hospitality tray with biscuits, trouser press, ironing board and safe. It also provided an arm chair as well as a chair for the working area. The bed was comfortable and lighting reasonable. I had a small shower room off with an excellent shower and good towels. There was a rubber shower mat AND a towelling bath mat too. My only comment would be that the only place for my sponge bag was above the toilet. We had our own small dining room laid out with small tables seating 4 with crisp white table cloths and beautifully folded deep red linen serviettes. There was a good choice on the menu with three choices of starter, mains and deserts. Vegetarians were well catered for. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Meals were attractively presented, well cooked and generous. The beef was particularly good. The only problem was deciding what to choose. Breakfasts were in the main dining room overlooking the front of the hotel. They were equally generous, especially the cooked breakfast with black pudding and fried bread along with the usual bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomato and baked beans. There was plenty of toast as well as croissants and a selection of Danish pastries. I didn't need any lunch. If busy, service could be slow as there was only one member of staff taking orders and the breakfast was cooked to order. My only criticism was the sausage was slightly underdone for me and there was no fresh fruit, although there were prunes and tinned grapefruit. I collected an apple from the bowl at reception.
Very disappointed with this hotel thought it would be so much better. Room was old dated and disgraceful. Breakfast was OK although the room where breakfast was served very small and not very comfortable. Overall a poor hotel and not one I would recommend.
We checked in on a Friday afternoon, first impression was of a modern clean hotel with very helpful and welcoming staff. There are a lot of steps up and down to certain rooms but once we were at our room it was very pleasant. Freshly decorated very clean and comfortable. We didn't want a full meal that evening so we went for a bar snack. It was the usual pup type snack ...nothing to rave about , perfectly edible but, £13 for scampi and chips??. We didn't eat in the restaurant so I cant comment on that. Breakfast was ok...again a full English on a medium sized plate was £15 if you were on room only tariff. There was some kind of function on at the time of our stay and at our 2nd breakfast we felt a bit ignored,we had to ask for all services as they were totally consumed by the other guests. I would rate this as one of the best Best Westerns I've stayed at, and I've stayed at a lot. Would I go there again.......yes definitely.......would I eat there ....maybe not.
Pleasant stay and accommodated for our 14 year old in same room. Banbury good location for Cotswolds and centre of England. Banbury good shopping centre but rest of town tired looking. Plenty of parking at hotel
Horrible small room, tiny double bed far too short with lumpy pillows and the shower was a joke. As a loyal Best Western customer - this was not a good experience - worst hotel room I have ever stayed in.
breakfast was not as on menu no prunes or apricots when we were there no vegetarian option ie sausages people waiting for tables need a few more staff very pleasant our room was quite a trek clean apart from toilet had not been flushed and workmen loud in room next door which we were not warned about overall not a bad stay comfortable bed spacious room
Well situated for the town of Banbury and free parking with plenty of space, this is a decent hotel, room could have been better - a little tired but a nice bar area and breakfast room and the quality and choice was very good. What really stood out was the excellent customer service from the staff which couldnt be faulted, will stay again.
Recently refurbished and entrance and bar areas were lovely. Room good too. However when we got to our room there was a letter explaining there was a problem with one of the boilers and we may experience problems with the hot water supply -the advice was to try to take a shower outside the busy times But there was not hot water at all despite us checking in early. They knew this when we checked in but not a word said. It did come back on but several hours later. There was a distinct lack of staff in the evening and guests had to find staff to get a drink or a meal, and when our meal arrived we then had to go looking for sauces and steak knives!! We also asked for draught beer which was on the bar menu but we were told they only do bottles, a short while later a pint of draught was brought from downstairs to one of the other guests!!! Not a 'Best' Western at all and not one I would rush back to. Shame when they had obviously spent a lot of money on the place
Stayed for 1 night on a business trip Improvements to the reception areas have brought the hotel sympathetically up to date. Problem is these haven't been expanded to rooms and areas above ground floor. Taps in room very hard to turn off and heating very hot in room overnight Breakfast lovely but new design and furniture in room makes everyone a bit squished in. No space on self service table to actually put bowl down to get cereal, fruit, pastries etc which was awkward Overall improvement to hotel good needs refinement consideration for guests and extension to rest of hotel
excellent hotel lovely décor in reception areas staff extremely helpful good position for touring round the beautiful countryside would definitely recommend this hotel was here for a family occasion and every thing went very smoothly
I would just like to give you some positive feedback on our weekend visit to Banbury House Best Western last weekend. My husband has a platinum rewards card as he stays away regularly on business. He booked us a room with his points at the above and had a room upgrade The welcome from the receptionist was warm and friendly. She asked us if we had visited Banbury before and issued us with a map directing us how to get into the town centre and local points of interest which was very helpful. She asked if we needed help with our luggage and directed us to our room. The upgraded room was comfortable warm and had a gift bag included which again was a nice touch. We slept well as the position of the room meant is was very peaceful and despite a note saying the hot water supplies may be erratic due to a problem with a boiler we did not experience any difficulties.
A nice hotel with a parking and close to the city center. A friendly staff, good beds and a very nice breakfast. For older people the corridors are going a little bit up and down and round the corners. They may be a little inconvenient. The watertap for the shower and bath was a little hard to handle. We had a very nice stay.
This is my third stay at this hotel in four years and although at the time of our stay there was a lot of refurbishment under way of the public areas this did not in any way spoil our stay. The high levels service provided was very friendly and welcoming, especially Dora on reception and Nicolett in the restaurant. We actually had the same room we had last year which we felt was quite nice, an old familiar friend. I look forward to my next stay and see the finished works.
Even though the hotel is in the process of being refurbished everything was excellent.The breakfasts were very good and also had evening meal on Sunday, which was very enjoyable and reasonably priced All the staff were very friendly especially Nicolette nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely recommend this hotel. If we ventured this way again defo stop here again thank you
This hotel is currently undergoing major refurbishment and is not expected to be completed until the end of April. Then they will be starting on the accommodation rooms. However, the hotel should be transformed on completion and will be of exceptional quality. Worth waiting for, but wait I would.
Yes there is renovation work being undertaken at present but this did not effect my stay. Room was large, clean, comfortable and spacious. Customer service was friendly and courteous. I had my breakfast included in my reservation which includes a freshly cooked breakfast with ample choice of ingredient's. Only issue is the parking, if you have to park in the underneath car park then spaces are tight.
Just got back from Banbury entrance from car park not easy but hotel. staff very good indeed , rooms good don't forget to turn the rad off at night, bar area could do with an upgrade, we never did find the front entrance ,
Having recently stayed at this hotel, I was horrified with the amount of work being carried out on this hotel and for not to have been told at the time of the booking that major works were being carried out.The route to the rooms were via some old rear staircase with poor signage. Room very average with dated furniture. Bar area very small, but night porter was very helpful. Breakfast was adequate. If I had been told prior to booking about the works, then the decision to stay at hotel would have been mine, but not to say anything is appalling. As this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, next time I'll be staying down the road in Whatley Hall.
Going under a refurb at the moment this is and will be a great Hotel, we was told it was under refurbishment , but to be honest the service we got was great, we are Best western platinum members and did get a free upgrade, there are no free water, sweets etc which makes the stay special, and no free papers,, but I am being picky, breakfast was great everything you could ever need and staff are lovely,
Hotel currently being renovated however staff extremely helpful. Stopped two nights with full board. Food was excellent, there is a new chef. Close to the shopping area when we needed a break from sewing. Booked single rooms but because of renovations we had large room with queen size beds. Booked to go again next year
I've used Banbury House for several years now as the venue for my "Stitching Sleepover" craft weekends. As usual the service was brilliant, with the friendly staff looking after my ladies extremely well. The food was fab, thanks to a new chef, and the rooms were clean, comfy and cosy. I've booked two more weekends and all the ladies who attended this time have re-booked, which I think reflects extremely well upon the hotel.
This hotel is undergoing a refurbishment at the moment. Need to get there early if you are traveling by car as there is noit a lot of spaces. Some rooms do not have double glazing and can be drafty and cold. Staff were freindly enough however would suggest trying other hotels in the area as overpriced for what is on offer.
the room we stayed in was a bit dated wallpaper and carpet and also mattress needs changing as well. but for a night stay it was ok. but when it has all been updated between now and September it will be worth another visit
Great Stay, room large lots of work going on in the hotel but this did not affect our stay.All of the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to to be helpful would stay again next time in Banbury
Stayed here for one evening on a business trip and it was OK for the one night. The hotel was going through a much needed refurbishment but the hotel was functioning and there was a lot of signs helping you around. The room was acceptable but I would only want to do the one night here as the carpets and general feel of the hotel was very old fashioned. Food at the bar was average and not worth the money however at all times I found the staff really friendly and helpful. Parking is free but not the nicest of carparks. If you did need to get in to the town it's only around a 10 minute walk but it is a bit hilly. Overall Ok for one or two nights, would try it again after the refurbishment. (Providing they fix the wifi!)
Hubby and I booked an overnight here without knowing it is in the middle of a huge refurbishment. It was so warm,welcoming and friendly whilst in the middle of the upheaval that is a major refurbishment I'd love to visit again when it's at its best. Comfy rooms, very comfy beds, spotlessly clean, all the usual as in en - suite , white bed linens, TV, wifi, bar and restaurant. We didn't dine in but the restaurant looked nice but it's only a 5 minute walk to the town centre so we walked past the telephone Box that is now a small library into the town for evening meal. Very friendly staff, ample parking, even the rather grim underground car park is being updated I was told. The reception was entered via the basement during refurb, the rooms were accessed via some back stairs, so I really would love to revisit this pretty stuco fronted building when it's at its best, I loved our visit here when it was at its worst.
Even though the hotel is going through refurbishment the hotel and staff were professional throughout my ten day stay. The breakfast was the only meal I ate in the hotel and it was plentiful. Continental and fully cooked types were available and nothing was too much trouble for the waiting staff. It was a bit of a trek with my bags but I was offered assistance with them. I look forward to staying again the next time business brings me to Banbury and I look forward to seeing the improvements to the hotel.
One or two friendly faces and a decent breakfast to be fair do not compensate for the aging rooms, uncomfortable beds and excruciatingly long waits for a coffee at breakfast. Not to mention 'ASBESTOS WASTE MANAGEMENT' plant in the car park!! AVOID!!
I came with my husband for a weekend away. We had a 3 course meal on a great deal. Room was on the 1st floor- nice and cosy but the matress was a little bit soft for me. Our evening meal was fantastic, very tasty and good value. Service was very good- but Restaurant was a bit empty at the begining- which wasn't a problem for us. The car park is at the back and there was plenty of space. They are having a full renovation of public areas so reception is in the basement...It is a bit difficult to get to the rooms but staff couldn't be more helpfull. Can't wwait to return once it will be all over. The plans look lovely! Thank you very much for our stay, we will definitely be back!
I have stayed in the Banbury House on many occasions over the last twenty years as a former local visiting my home town and know the hotel and the area very well. I am always impressed by the service and the overall quality of the hotel. The breakfast is cooked to order at the weekends and this, coupled with the quality of the rooms, the welcoming and friendly staff and the excellent location always make for an enjoyable stay. The hotel is currently undergoing a major refurbishment to the reception and other public areas and although this occasioned some minor inconvenience when I arrived, the welcome was as good as ever. One criticism of the hotel that I have seen in some reviews is the absence of a lift to assist the old. it will be interesting to see if the refurbishment addresses this problem, although there are ground floor rooms available for disabled guests if the stairs are an issue. I think the hotel represents excellent value for money and I'm looking forward to going back when the refurbishments are complete.
I have stayed at the Banbury House Hotel on many occasions over the last 20 years and the quality of the service has always been very good, particularly noteworthy is the breakfast which is cooked to order and the quality of the rooms is high. I accept that the absence of a lift for the upper floors may be an issue if a guest is old or infirm, but there are a number of ground floor rooms available. The hotel is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and it was good to see quality being maintained despite this and the minor inconvenience caused. I look forward to seeing what this looks like when the refurbishment is complete. All in all excellent value for money and a very pleasant stay.
This is our 3rd visit to banbury house hotel. Not far away from where we live but always a lovely stay here. Rooms r very spacious. Spotlessly clean. Staff cant do enough for you. We were here for our wedding anniversary. The 3 course meal on our first night was so yummy. Also plenty to choose from for the breakfasts. We decided on the buffet brekkie and the full english. All food was piping hot and tasted lovely. Special thanx to lorraine for sorting our break out. Just down the rd from hotel u have the main town where u r spoilt for shop restaurants bars.all in all a really great stay. See u again next yr ??????????
This hotel reminds me of my early days in sales back in the seventies. It is dour, worn out, spent and dirty. I genuinely thought these dinosaurs had become extinct. Well, it is alive and kicking in Banbury! My room was little bigger than a double wardrobe, dirty, noisy, cold and lacking in any creature comforts. Will I ever visit again? NO
We were happier here than in many more expensive hotels. Plus points - two chairs in the room. Often there is only one even in double or twin. Very clean bathroom. Room was also clean and comfortable - not large but large enough. Shelf for toiletries was NOT over the washbasin but alongside. No banging of head when washing face ! Friendly and helpful staff.
I am a great fan of Best Western, hotel is undergoing a MUCH needed refurb. It is currently looking VERY tired. Staff we very pleasant. We booked a family room and although clean it was very small and the windows were single glazed and as the hotel is on the main road it was noisey.. Wifi very poor. Not cheap or really value for money, they should reduce rates until refurb finished. Reasonable location for town Did not eat, so can't comment on food.
We chose this location as it was close to Stratford-Upon-Avon, nice little town, Hotel was on the older side but very well kept. Staff we met were great, comfortable beds, quite & clean, free parking at rear.
This Hotel is good but nothing special. The location is great for walking into Banbury and with a free car park and wifi it was great for what we needed which was a base to go do other things. The room are clean and staff were friendly. The breakfast was nice but I little stingy with the cooked breakfast especially if you only had a few items it was the same portion size per item if you had one item or all 7 also if you got any more than about 3 couples/families in the breakfast room the whole thing went pear shaped and waited ages for breakfast as did our fellow diners. The only thing I would say is there was Almond Soap in the room which having someone who was anaphylactic to nuts I think is a little stupid for such a main brand hotel! I would recommend this hotel as a base to go explore Banbury and the area and the Bed was very comfy.
The buffet at their New Years Eve party was amazing. Great choice of tasty dishes. This was my third New years Eve party here and it was excellent on every occasion. The follow up disco was equally good. Recommended
I would like to thanks all the staff at Banbury House hotel for looking after me throughout 2015. they are always friendly and welcoming, the hotel is very easy to find, and local to the town centre, also Banbury Cross. I look forward to 2016.
Arrived late after long journey, staff polite and helpful. Nice room at back, clean and warm. Stayed 4 nights, good breakfast, only thing would be nice to have pot of coffee, perhaps I should have asked. Will stay again
Single glazed windows in the room - very noise road outside Advertised with free WiFi - NO WiFi at all Food was okay The rooms where outdated I was told one price on the phone but on arrival that price doubled. I ended up going leaving and going to the Ashlea Guest House across the road - 1,000X better and cheaper.
One night stay, found the location great for a short walk into town. The Hotel has parking to the rear.The room was large clean and warm. Bar is down stairs with the basic TV channels but if you want football then its short walk to a local pub. Did not eat in the restaurant but if breakfast is anything to go by then I can't see you having any problems. Staff very helpful. India restaurant nearby worth a visit .
Hotel provided evrything required for a one night stay. Staff were attentive, room was comfortable and clean. Some of the decor is old fashioned but kept in good condition and not really a complaint. Good business stop over facility.
Comfortable, relaxed, clean, excellent service at meals...and staff who make one feel nothing would be too much for them in their quest to make one a happy customer!....very nice food...it used to be AMAZING ...however we see they have pared down portions and choice of dishes... And I would describe the food as very good. The breakfast was buffet as opposd to the former table service....which in this case I actually preferred...as I could take more of what I like and leave what didn't appeal. The rooms are comfortable...lots of nice pillows...and beautiful white linen and towels. The decor is run of the mill...as one would expect from the standardised furnishings of a Great Western but all very clean and great value. Tea, coffee etc on a tray in room...iron, ironing board...loads of piping hot water...nice liquid soap.....One complaint....The hotel WAS TOO HOT, I suppose better o be too hot than cold...and one can always open a window...!
We stayed for a reunion with some friends whom I first met in 1965, there were about 30 of us and we had a great weekend. We had an evening dinner and the food was very good, the service was excellent and all dietary requirements were very well catered for. The room were good and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was self service and there was a good choice. Everyone enjoyed the venue/weekend and we hope to meet there again in the next few months.
Having just returned home after three nights due to building work at my home I have to say that over the years this place never seems to change. It appears that management pay no heed to the customers issues or are concerned. Like so many previous comments this place is a no no for disabled people. A rabbit warren of steps and inaccessible areas. I waited at reception for some time after being told that someone would be with me shortly. Eventually a member of the reception staff arrived and I was then told that they were training and it may take a while. After faffing about with the computer she eventually realised it wasn't switched on. I asked if she wanted to swipe my debit card as I would be charging to my room but was informed I had to pay there and then. Never has this happened before but then it was a warning of things to come. Basically I just needed somewhere to get my head down. Food and the extortionate rates for room service for their "award winning" food did not interest me. First night I went to the Bar 29 for a drink. The female bartender seemed perplexed when I asked if they had a single malt whisky. We have Bells was the response. I asked if they had a coffee and Amaretto. Again perplexed I was told they had run out and it was on order. Totally inefficient and unprofessional. I eventually settled for a cafetiere and a large Drambuie as that was all that was on offer for a large hotel this is very poor. No sooner had I settled down than the liquid muck purporting itself to be coffee arrived. Minutes later I was told the bar was shutting... 10.40 pm. Miffed I went to my room only to be disturbed by loud talking by hotel staff who deemed it appropriate to shout not talk loudly for some 15 minutes. Room was tired but acceptable for my needs, but during the night became extremely hot. Had to open the window, but the window to the adjoining bathroom had a notice printed saying do not open as it was dangerous. This had obviously been there some time and the hotel management must deem this an acceptable practice and absolve themselves of any responsibility. The following night after returning from the town after a meal with friends I found the hotel main entrance locked at the abominable time of 11.15pm. Heaven forbid at the age of 57 I stay out later than 11.00 pm. The door was answered by the night porter however. Next day after putting the " do not disturb" sign on the door it was opened by a member of staff who came to repair the hairdryer of which I had no use of and did not concern me. I was laying on the bed watching the TV, so instead of leaving a maintenance man arrived and again after faffing about for 15 minutes and unable to repair it they decided to leave and not disturb me. Having been disturbed I decided to retrieve my laptop from above the built in wardrobe and was covered in dust and fluff. So much for housekeeping. I forgot to mention that I did explain that I was concerned about the free WiFi as when I connected my computer stated that I was exposed to hackers. I was asked to contact the desk/reception manager but when I went down could find no one. Decided not to use the free WiFi again. My last night I returned early and thought I would give the bar a try again. Same thing, very inexperienced staff but ordered a beer anyway. I later ordered a bottle of Prosecco which they advertised and the female bartender had to go off to find. Duly arrived and was warm, but hey ho. Within minutes was again told the bar was closing.. 10.45pm. The bartender decided she was tired after a long day and was on breakfast duty in the morning. Now seeing as this was a Friday evening and I was in conversation with other residents found this to be very poor service and then extremely rude when the doors were being locked and we were forced out to sit in the reception area to finish off our drinks. What happened next really took the biscuit. Sitting in the reception the staff were parading around with soft toys won apparently, from as one stated, 5 rich Abu Dhabi jockeys who were staying at the hotel. Then they decided to lock and chain the front door and also lock the rear doors. At one point a resident who tried to leave found himself locked in. This is a dangerous practice in case of fire or other emergency. This was at 11.15pm. The next incident beggars belief as the front door was opened and about 10 staff entered with takeaways totally ignoring the residents and proceeding to fill the reception before moving to some other part of the hotel for their midnight feast. However the people who I was talking to at reception mentioned about the bar being reopened and what I can only describe as an insulting and rude response from some clever mouthed male was "if you are residents tell the porter to serve you". He obviously didn't know if we were residents and we obviously didn't know if he was a member of staff. However the place was in lock down very early with staff and their friends obviously more concerned with their own enjoyment rather than the satisfaction of the customers. Is this place concerned with providing a professional service to it's customers or just a part time doss house where customers are deemed as inmates? Either way this will be forwarded to Best Western head office because of all the hotels that I have stayed in in this chain this is by far the worst place in over 40 years of travelling. There is little or no concern for disabled travellers and the inexperience of staff in customer care or product knowledge is tantamount to treating people as though they are a disturbance to their daily lives. I daresay there will be no response but by God I wish someone there gets a reality check and finds out what hospitality and professionalism is. As a final comment I was asked when I left if everything was alright and just said yes as I didn't want to get into a long conversation with the receptionist who was trying to deal with a problem about pets by someone who had rung moments before.
Here on business with a party of 4 and can honestly say I have never been served up such a plate of disgusting food in my entire life. It was supposed to be frittata but instead it was a skinny omelette with a garnish instead of the salad it was supposed to be served with for £17.50. One of our party was still awaiting his main when I left the table at 21:15 after they got it wrong twice. We ordered our food at 19:45. Total rip off, horrendous food, terrible rooms for the price and if I wasn't here on business I would have driven the 5 hour journey home or slept in the car. I can't believe these people are still trading, they make premier inn look like the Savoy
I stayed in the Banbury House for one night with my wife with breakfast included. The rooms are of an average size but are clean and very functional. There is a wardrobe and set of draws along with bedside cabinets. Iron, ironing boards, electric fan, hair dryer, extra towels, kettle (with appropriate beverages) and trouser press were all available in the room without asking. TV was set up nicely. The decor for the bedroom was a little tired with minor signs of wear creeping in (wallpaper just starting to peel). Everywhere was clean. The bathroom was more modern with both a shower and bath. Plenty of shower gel provided. A good sized bathroom too with a good sized mirror.Checking in was easy and pleasant. Parking (free) is available on site. The bar is a fairly standard affair including prices. The breakfast in the hotel was of the buffet style, both full English and continental available. Plenty of choice whatever you want and all of it good standard fair. One of the waitresses was a little short with us at one point when we asked for milk for coffee but i think it was more because she thought we had it already (we didn't). The remainder of the staff throughout the hotel were pleasant at all times and helpful. Overall i would recommend this hotel for business trips or short stays. It is close to the center of Banbury (less than 5 minutes walk).
There was good and bad about this place. The good. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The food in the evenings was very good (although I hadn't seen fruit juice offered as a starter for a long time!). The room was clean and mostly comfortable, and the shower was good and strong. The bad. The overall impression in the public areas was that it was tired, old fashioned and in need of redecoration. It is a rabbit warren of a place with no lift and flights of stairs everywhere. No-one with mobility problems could ever stay here. Although as there are stairs up to both entrances and no ramp, no-one with mobility problems would be able to get in in the first place.The bed was too soft for me and the pillows had definitely seen better days. They just collapsed into flatness as soon as I lay down. The bathroom was badly designed. It was a large room as bathrooms go, but there was no shelf anywhere near the washbasin and mirror on which to put toiletries. The only toiletries provided were those horrible bottles attached to the wall that purport to be soap, shampoo and shower gel all in one.Breakfast was dreadful. It would have been OK if I had wanted a full English. As it was I had a choice of cereal, lumpy porridge and cold toast. No fruit, no yoghurt, no croissants. Weirdly there were glasses of orange juice ready poured by each place setting. Overall, the whole place needs bringing into the 21st century.
The minute you walk through the hotel doors the smell hits you hard in the face... could not work out if this was damp or urine...if I could have turned round and walked away I would have. ..the room itself was like being in an oven The hotel is dated and could have done with a good clean.. there was cracks in all the ceilings. .. floorboards that creaked with every step ... and the whole place made you itch.....the beds were far too soft and i did not sleep a wink The only good thing about the hotel were the staff who tried their best under the circumstances. . Will not be staying there again
The hotel was created to blend with the architecture of the area. to that end it was created from several properties that are now joined into an elaborate jig saw of up steps and down steps as you navigate the facility. There is no elevator. The rooms are decent for what they have been given to work with. Some apparently are bigger than others as our three couples compared notes. Service is diligent although the bar and wait staff are very much inexperienced personnel, The location is good, the facility is clean and not worn. The staff tries very hard are a bit inexperienced.
Paid £105 for a double room on Saturday. Room was very small. Bathroom only had towels for 1 person had to ask at Reception who told us the other towels were in a drawer in the bedroom. This was probably because the bathroom was so small you couldn't have two lots of towels in there. The taps were hard to turn so the cold tap kept dripping in the sink. The shower tap was really hard to turn and when turned to the coldest setting was still way too hot. Toiletries was just bottles of liquid soap no shampoo or conditioner. There were no details about the hotel in the bedroom. We went to the bar twice both times there was no one serving so you have to go back upstairs to get someone to serve you. No Sky TV. The plus it was clean but very dated. Free wifi was good. 30% cheaper would have been a fair price.
On the plus side they were able to help us with an early check in following an overnight flight from SE Asia + drive from Heathrow. This seems to be several houses joined and corridors went this way and that, up and down stairs etc! A real rabbit warren. Was difficult to shower without flooding the bathroom. Fire alarm went off at 4am and whilst I acknowledge wanting to know if there REALLY was a fire not sure how we would have found the exit. It then went off for short periods over the next couple of hours. Think perhaps the hotel should have put on free tea, coffee, toast etc given that everyone was up and about way earlier than they wanted to be.
Hotel pre-booked as transit stop, which happened to be spouse birthday. Coach party separately housed for dinner, main restaurant deserted (one other couple, one solo), bar - only visitors before dinner, a few more after dinner. Food good, staff made effort to recognise birthday with prepared dessert (not pre-booked). Food was good, and breakfast also good. Room upgraded (due to birthday - and a very good room indeed. Hotel guests (apart from the coach party) mainly from Ireland and Netherlands according to car park - the Netherlands certainly correct, as the only other couple in dining room in evening. Note that they, and the solo traveller had been told they could not eat until 2000hrs, due to the coach party, but our booking for 1930 was honoured.
