« pretty plain for a Best Western but the room waas fine »

3rd time I've stayed here. it looks like a motel six, very very plain 2-story motel with small parking lot. but my room was fine, good bed, clean, all the amenities. considering it is in very downscale Alturas, it wasn't bad at all. a bit pricey for alturas, but its the best in town, so what the heck.....

« A good stay in Alturas Ca »

Maybe a bit small area but is the one of the best breakfast with such a variety we have had at a Best Western. Very clean and worth the cost! Location was perfect for driving on a long and fast trip! Rooms could be a little more room with the 2 beds and the coffee machine could be the Keurig and better coffee. I would stay there again for sure!

« Pretty Good for such a Small Town »

This hotel is not new, but is well maintained. You can tell that they care about the property from the lovely flower boxes on the railings. The rooms are fairly small, but adequate. All the rooms open off the parking lot. There are no elevators, so ask for the first floor or be prepared to climb the stairs. There are no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms. It is pretty basic. However, it is comfortable and clean. The breakfast was about average. The breakfast room was very small, and the attendant just stood and watched everyone as they ate. It was a little odd. It is located right on the main highway through town, but the traffic wasn't bad during the night.

    « Clean and quiet »

We got in late and the person at the desk was very accommodating and polite. Our room was clean and comfortable and everything was in working order. Free wifi, comfortable beds and they offered a good breakfast in the morning. They even had wipped cream for the waffles.

« Overnight stay On the Way to Lake Tahoe »

Nice little room, clean and comfy, wifi, lots of tv channels, FEATHER pillows! which I forgot at home! Thank GAWD for a regular tiny coffee pot so we could brew our own coffee. Has a mini frig and micro. We were happy.

« Best Western Trailside Inn, Alturas, CA Great Experience »

Pet-Friendly BW Trailside Inn was a welcome relief due to location, upscale rooms in the middle of the high desert. It has lots of amenities like wifi, breakfast, clean rooms, etc. Be sure to give BW Trailside Inn a try, you will not be disappointed.

    « Awful Motel »

Just terrible! I reserved an ADA room two weeks in advance. I explained that I was travelling with an older person that CANNOT climb stairs. Cherie, the front desk clerk reserved the room. When I got to the hotel to check in, the front desk claimed that there was no reservation for an ADA room! I explained to her that I ALWAYS reserve an ADA room on the first floor. She said that we had to stay on the second floor. I again explained to her that that the elderly person I was travelling with CANNOT climb stairs. I had just stayed at another hotel in Sacramento and THEY CORRECTLY had my ADA room available. The front desk at the Best Western, Alturas, still wrongfully claimed that I did not reserve an ADA room and there were NO first floor rooms available. I was getting very upset. I asked her if there was at least an elevator. She said no. I said I am going to check to see if another hotel would accomodate us. She said that there were NO other rooms available at competing hotels. She also said if I refused to take the second floor room, I would be charged for a night's stay. I asked to speak with the manager, but she said he wouldn't be back till Friday, which was four days later. As she had left me NO choices, I reluctantly took the key and headed for the room. I explained to the person I was travelling with the situation. She said she didn't think she could climb the stairs but would try anyway. Sure enough, half way up she she said she couldn't go any further. She sat down. I tried to help her up but she got very nervous and started yelling. A few minutes later THE POLICE arrived. They said they got a complaint about a woman screaming. I explained the situation. They waited as as the person I was travelling with CRAWLED up the stairs, crying. She finally got to to the room and I immediately called the front desk. I asked them if they knew what had happened and Cherie said, "Yes". I told her that we should have had the ADA room I reserved and she still lied and said that I never reserved an ADA room. She told me that If I didn't like it I "Should leave the property". I told her that I was going to call Best Western Customer Service. She said, "It won't do any good." I called Best Western Customer Service, I spoke with Mike in Phoenix, he said he would document my complaint and the owner of the hotel would contact me as soon as he returned. It has been THREE WEEKS and the hotel owner has still not contacted me. I will NEVER stay at this Best Western again!

« Poor Establishment for Business travelers »

If you are a business traveler and frequently need to change your plans, don't make a reservation here. They push back if you need change or cancel your reservation. With cancellations, t hey will charge you for the room anyway if they can't re-rent it. Very unfriendly to the business traveler.

    « Recommend »

We have used this hotel for a number of years attending a week's car tour. Staff is great, hotel is clean and quiet at night. Breakfast room very small but they told us this time they are going to expand. Always enjoy the pool but this trip it was closed the whole time we were there.

    « Very clean »

The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. This is our second stay here while visiting family and again we were not disappointed. They offer complimentary breakfast, which we had the first time we stayed and were pleased with it. We would definitely stay here again.

    « Decent p;ace to stay »

Friendly staff, comfortable beds, older motel showing wear and tear with outside room entry. Not a lot of options in the area, I was glad to find a best western, but I prefer rooms with an inside entry when I have an option.

« Better than sleeping in my car »

CLEAN: bed and bathroom DIRTY: the carpets, mirror, table (sticky) Internet : limited to one connection per room STAFF: unhelpful and nearly surly This is a small town, not near much of anything and not many choices for hotels.

    « Nice hotel for a night's stay »

If you're looking for a night's stay in Alturas this will fit the bill. The rooms are a good size but the bathroom is pretty small. Beds were comfy and the rooms were clean. It can get a little noisy in the morning because the firefighters stay there but it's all good. The breakfast area is very small and the food is below average compared to the other BW's we've stayed at.

« Dirty, uncomfortable and poor service »

The carpet in our room was so dirty, I was afraid to be barefoot. The table was a sticky mess. The bathroom was too small to stand up and turn around. The bed linens were clean but the bed itself was lumpy. This is an awful place! Two guests but only one device allowed for internet connection. And that connection was very poor. Avoid this place!!!

« A Good Night's Sleep Is the Most Important Hotel Function »

We stayed in 8 different hotels a total of 13 nights. We slept the best at this hotel. The bed was comfortable. The hotel was quiet on a Friday night. Based on this fact alone, this hotel receives an excellent rating. We experienced no annoyances or problems during our stay.

« Right Place at the Right Time for Me »

Staff was very helpful with some uncertainties in my travel times. All the things you would expect in a well run Best Western but the staff I talked with put it over the top. Not many BW's in their corner of California but it turned out one was enough.

« Best small town hotel »

BW was a great experience and I plan to use them every time i visit my family in Alturas CA.. The hotel is kept very nicely and the staff are very nice. The pool is great also especially since it gets very hot there.

    « Good breakfast »

Clean room, comfortable bed. Pots of beautiful pink petunias all around. No fridge or microwave. Nice pool with pool towels at desk. Good breakfast including hard-boiled eggs and quality apples as well as waffles and cereals. Attentive, pleasant breakfast service. We would stay here again.

    « Nice hotel »

Older style motel, clean good sized rooms, friendly staff, nice pool area. Good continental breakfast, and good amenities in room. Good value. Will stay there again if in the area. Close to shops and the downtown area which has a lot of character.

    « Nice & Clean »

Very clean and great staff make this place a pleasure to stop in at. The location is right on the main street, and it has everything you need for a stop-over while traveling through Alturas. The pool is great too!

« Best Western Alturas, Calif. »

Having stayed now twice at the Trailside Inn we are very satisfied with the helpful staff and accommodations. As a couple with some handicaps we were offered a well appointed equal access room. Ask for it if you have that issue. Breakfast is fresh and nutritious only lacking the sausage and scrambled eggs so commonly offered.

    « Comfortable »

In the area for a wedding and stayed at this Best Western for 5 nights with my husband and other family. Rooms are on the older/small side but very clean and bed was comfortable. Bathroom was small, but the sink was outside which was nice.Nice desk and large easy chair in the room. Convenient parking in front of doors, except if you came back late and the lot was full. Pool was nice and warm, again on the small side. Rooms have a refrigerator and microwave and they gave us a pack and play for my daughters baby to sleep in. The WiFi worked well , cell service was good and there were lots of TV channels. The breakfast is pretty basic continental, plus you can make waffles. The breakfast room is tiny and you just have to bring food back to your room. They are supposed to remodel the breakfast room in the near future. My biggest problem was that the key cards had to be swiped 3 times before the door would open. In all I was happy staying there. The pretty petunia hanging baskets brighten up the place.

    « Simple and clean »

We had the nicest, most polite reception from a young woman when checking in. The hanging flower baskets outside the hotel made the otherwise plain building attractive. We were disappointed with our room. The A/C was located near the head of our bed so we could not use it. Fortunately, the window opened so we did not use the A/C. The comfort of the bed was so-so. The room was very clean and simple. There was a microwave and small fridge. The breakfast room was very small, but there are plans to enlarge it. The food was replenished often, but was just satisfactory. Although the rate was reasonable, I doubt we would stay at this Best Western again.

    « It's horrible »

We were a group of 22 middle aged English businessmen who were raising funds for seriously ill children by cycling from Vancouver to San Diego The rooms were booked and paid for by the Charity nearly a year ago. We arrived at this hotel after many hours of biking and were all asked to pay $150 each as a deposit in case of damage to the rooms Why ?? Believe me you couldn't do $150 of damage to a room even if you set fire to it This is the worst hotel I have stayed in outside China The room carpets were very sticky , the floor boards creeked and the lighting and decor were depressing There are only 2 tables in the breakfast room for guests to sit at The manner of the staff was probably the worst I have experienced in the USA The following night after another days cycling we stayed at a Hampton Suites in Reno that was perfect We have now moved into another Best Western hotel which isn't quite as bad but There is no a/c If you open the window for cool air you get a blast of cooking smells from the kitchen Breakfast is only from 7 am to 8 am More about that one later Steer clear of Best Western hotels

« Good option for this area »

There are not many chain hotels available in this area when you are traveling through. This hotel was clean and comfortable. They offer a decent enough free breakfast. The WiFi worked fine. You can walk to some restaurants. (I recommend the Thai one a few blocks North.) It is on highway 395 so there is going to be road noise. The rooms have been updated since I last stayed there. I think this is your best bet in the area.

« Clean, comfortable, room...but there will always be noise. »

Have stayed at Best Western Trailside many times. This is the best in Alturas even though it is a dated two story building. With that said, there have been some good improvements recently & then there are things that remain the same. Size of rooms & noise being what they are. Always have reserved an upstairs room to avoid noise, but it still is a problem even so. Lugging our bags up the aging outdoor stairway was a step at a time. Later on in the evening it sounded like a herd of elephants coming when other guests used the same stairs. It was refreshing to find there was ample lighting in the rooms & the water actually tasted good. There is truck noise due to the close proximity to US 395 & the proverbial TV in the background as the walls are adjoining a neighbor. It doesn't matter if there is one person or a family.... the noise travels up, down & sideways. It is truly annoying when you hear the fans in the bathrooms at all hours of the day & night, not to mention someone taking a shower in early morning. Parking does fill up with trucks & RV's soon after check-in time. We had to re-park our car twice in one evening. Have you noticed that on weekdays many rural or business route Best Westerns' have this same phenomena? It's good to learn there are plans for a larger breakfast room. Last time we stayed it was a sunny morning, mid week with lots of guests hovering around with anxiety on their faces. We managed to share a table & were able to enjoy the hot coffee, cereal, yogurt & hard boiled eggs for those of us watching our carbs. The room was clean & inviting. Equipped with a microwave and refrigerator. There was a table with 2 chairs which saved the day because of using devices. Did use the air conditioner/heater immediately as the weather was hot. But at night, due to the bed being close to the fan, decided not to use it because the forced air & noise made sleeping out of the question. Attractive window coverings/drapes & sheers. There are outside walkways. Adequate towels, linens, pillows & beds that appeared to be on the new side. Didn't wake with a stiff neck. The bathrooms are small but the H20 pressure was good & our toilet worked. Realize that when staying here we spend as little time as possible in the room & only stay for one night. Had a great Mexican dinner at the El Agave Azul. Walked a few blocks south of the motel & had some of the best Mexican food in the area. Enjoyed the big pots of pink petunias hanging everywhere. Did not try out the pool. Have always enjoyed the outside patio over the office/entrance. It give us a alternative to sitting in our room. All the landscaping & color adds a lot to the bleak small town surroundings. Trust you will have your new breakfast room when we return next time.

    « Nice hotel »

Staff is very helpful and pleasant. Rooms are clean, but somewhat aged. Pool was closed. Breakfast included waffles. Small breakfast room, but we got to meet other travelers when sharing a table. Would stay there again if in Alturas.

    « Reno bound »

We stay here as it has a great Italian restaurant within walking distance... Antonio's is our favorite spot for dinner . The hotel is clean and comfortable although the rooms are on the small side. They do offer breakfast but the breakfast room only has two tables ... we just get what we need and schlep it up to our room. The room has a coffee maker, refrigerator and coffee maker which are a great bonus. It is a clean and quiet location right on the main highway thru town and well managed. They do a good job with the space they have available.

    « Comfortable Stay »

We found this Best Western to be a clean, comfortable stay. Although quite busy, it was surprisingly quiet. We found the king bed room a little small and compact and since we don't normally watch television in bed having that as the "default setting" was a bit annoying. The staff were friendly and quite accommodating to an early check-in request and immediately responsive to our suggestion that they evaluate a minor maintenance issue. Alturas is a small town and there admittedly aren't a lot of choices, but we would stay here again even if that were not the case.

« Nice spot in a small town »

We chose this place in Alturas because there were not a lot of picks. Nothing negative its just a small town. As it turns out this was a good choice. A nice room that looks like they have tried to keep updated. Very clean, with all the amenities, fridge, microwave, hair dryer, free wifi. Next to the highway but it was quiet. Small bathroom area but that's not unusual in a hotel that's been around a while. Small continental breakfast area but they have one. If I was staying in Alturas again, I'd stay here without any worries. Got a great rate so value was good.

    « Too noisy. »

This is an older motel located on the main street of a truck route. Very popular with working people as there is no other accommodation nearby. We checked in early evening and then went to dinner. When we returned most of the narrow parking spaces were taken up by large work trucks. We parked some distance away to avoid the inevitable door dings. Back in the room we watched TV for awhile, only one Wi-Fi device can be enabled at a time, and it is not all that fast. We could here the folks walking around in the room above but no big deal. All during the night we could hear semi trucks driving down the main street 50 feet from our doorway. Then at 4am the folks in the room above started walking around again keeping us awake. Between 4:30-5:00am all the diesel trucks in the parking lot right outside your door started up. So basically a couple of hours sleep if you're lucky. We have stayed at this hotel a few times as it is the only one in the area and it is pet friendly. We will not be staying here again, we will change our route to avoid this area and find a quieter locale to bed down for the night.

« Not much choice in Alturas »

One of the less satisfactory Best Western hotels I've stayed in. First floor rooms are noisy and rooms are dated and not as clean as other hotels in the chain. Check-in was slow. I recommend avoiding Alturas altogether.

    « Highly recommend »

We spent one night here on our way home from Southern California. Very clean rooms and updated. Pets are welcome and we were allowed to have our dog in the room for $15 extra which I thought was reasonable. We also got a great deal booking our room through TripAdvisor. Great breakfast included : waffle bar, cereal, bagels, muffins, danish, etc.

« Very nice place to stay »

The hotel is an older hotel, but it has been cleaned up very nice. The front desk clerk was very helpful and would recommend this hotel to friends and family. Walking distance to restaurants and had a nice breakfast in the morning. Easy to get off and on I-5.

    « Great staff »

Comfortable bed and cleanliness. Great staff, breakfast was great all around was a quiet stay. I would recommend this hotel to my friends, and it is downtown close to great restaurants, Italian and Mexican food was very good. Best Western is he best!

« In Alturas, a good place to stay »

There are not many choices in Alturas. This Best Western is clean with free breakfast and Wi-Fi. The rooms are smaller than the usual Best Western but it has everything you need including a small refrigerator.

    « Small Town Stay »

There are 2 chain hotels in this town, and Best Western is the better choice by far - I have stayed at both. There are several mom and pop hotels; I cannot speak to them, but most look run down. The staff here is very friendly, considerate and helpful. The rooms are nice, and furnished with some quality in mind.. The AC/Heater keeps the room temp comfortable, as Alturas gets very hot in the summer, and below freezing in the winter. Whenever I am in Alturas I try to book a room here, but they do fill up fast, mostly on weekdays. If you can, book early.

    « Very good »

There is absolutely no place like home. And when you're away from home you'll always find an alternative that's closest to it and at Best Western Trailside I always have a pleasant and comfortable stay. I would recommend this place for those people who wishes to visit this part of town in California.

« if only they cared a bit more ... »

This hotel would be a nice oasis if only they cared a bit more about delivering a quality product. I'd like to see them improve the customer experience by providing better quality pillows. They need to revamp their breakfast room - better food, but even more importantly, giving their guests some room to enjoy it! I can't tell you how many guests, including myself, just give up on breakfast because there is not enough room for more than 4 people in the breakfast room.

« over-priced 2-Star Motel, filthy carpets and in need of repairs »

We booked a ground floor pet-room through central reservations, but on arrival were told we had to stay on the second floor. Unfriendly receptionist. No elevator. We did not notice any of the renovations that other travelers mentioned in their reviews and we found our room to be dirty, filthy threadbare and stained carpets. Breakfast was coffee, cereal, very basic. We decided to have breakfast elsewhere. I regret that I cannot recommend this Best Western.

    « Had a good time »

the room was nice and vary clean. The breakfast was great. I had a waffle ever day and more. It has the best heater, hot and quite. the staff was real friendly and helpful. A safe clean place to stay.

« Best Western - Trailside Inn, Alturas, CA »

Excellent service, clean accommodations, very comfortable bed, good continental breakfast, efficient and friendly staff, quiet, reasonable rates, easily accessible. Very pleased with the personable service and special attention to my requests. Would recommend this establishment to business or leisure travelers.

    « Nice renovation! »

This hotel was always comfortable and a good stopping point, but the new decor really adds a lot! It's nice to have the new micro brewery just across the street. I've stayed here with my husband, or kids/grandkids or traveling alone and always feel very safe and secure. I'd plan my trips between Oregon and Arizona for an overnight in Tonopah!

« cold room but nice »

Room was nice and completely what we wanted. But, on arrival no one turned on the heat and it took a long time before we took off jackets. It would be nice since it was reserved, to turn the heat on, even low, so that it would warm up quicker. Otherwise, nice room.

    « clean, friendly, small »

It was a nice place to stay after driving in the dark. Clean and comfortable for a night. Not fancy, small bathroom. Serves breakfast but we left too early to check it out. The staff were friendly, helpful, and real people.

    « Good room »

Alturas was a good stopping spot on our way to Southern California. The BW was a good choice. The receptionist was excellent and our room was very clean and comfortable. It was very quiet and we had a good nights sleep. The only negatives are 1. the parking spaces in front of the rooms. They are so narrow that it is impossible to open a car door without hitting the car beside it. 2. The breakfast space was VERY small, only 2 tables, completely inadequate for the size of the motel. One table was monopolized by one family and it was difficult to move around to select food for breakfast. Otherwise, it was a good stopover.

    « Great Rooms »

We stayed for two nights during our opening weekend duck hunt at the Modoc NWR. We requested a bottom floor room and the staff provided it. The room was really clean and the service provided was top notch. The staff allowed us to come in late for breakfast even after hours and we were thrilled because we thought we were too late. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a great room and great service. I have stayed at other hotels in Alturas and this one is the best by far.

    « A hotel near a great Italian eatery »

We found this hotel adequate for our stop for the night on our journey in northern California. It is down the street from an awesome little jewel of Italian food called Antonio's in Alturas, CA. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The pool was closed and covered but it was an outdoor pool so we were not surprised by that.

« Basic, comfortable and clean »

This hotel is located in the small farming community if Alturas, CA. The building is an older two story structure. There is no elevator to upper floor rooms. However, the rooms are clean and comfortable but nothing fancy. We were surprised at how quiet it was even with full occupancy and the location right on the highway. The only negative is that the breakfast room is so small that just about every guest has to dish up breakfast and then head back to their room to eat. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. We ate at the very popular Mexican restaurant that the receptionist at the hotel recommended. It's handy location and huge portions make it a good choice. I would not hesitate to stay here again and because it is on the route we take often from Phoenix to Portland our next stay will be in a few days

    « not good experience »

This is the second time we have stayed here. A bit older motel but they have switched items out and put new ones in. Maybe it was just the room we were in but the new heater was very loud and so was the refrigerator. Not a very good nights rest. The bathroom door would close but wouldn't stay closed and the shower head was stuck on one cycle which caused the whole bathroom to get wet.

    « Amazing staff ! »

Just checked in . Had problems with my credit and debit card simultaneously! Had half on the one card to pay the bill and thanks to to Adrian at the front desk, he trusted me to pay in the morning! He is our hero tonight! Thank you for trusting a stranger and his word . It's rare in the world , we need more people like him and their establishment ! AAA +++ oh and room very comfortable and nice especially for the price :)

« Perfect stop on the way to Burning Man!! »

This is the second time I've stayed at the Best Western Trailside in Alturus, pretty much the last stop on the way to spending a week at Burning Man. This time we had a second floor corner room that was sort of tucked into a back corner of the hotel that was surprisingly roomy and quiet. We arrived after midnight, had no problem checking in and the continental breakfast is pretty much standard Best Western fare, make your own waffles, cinnamon rolls, yogurt, etc. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, no complaints whatsoever. On my first visit, the room was on ground level, no complaints that time either.

    « Comfortable Stay »

We stayed one night in a king room. While the room and bathroom are on the small side, it was fine for one night. The room was clean upon check-in. The bed was comfortable. The shower was good. Breakfast is your typical hotel breakfast minus the hot items. Except for waffles, there weren't any hot items -- no eggs or bacon/sausage. It was just pastries, cereal, juice, yogurt, etc., but that was OK.

« Find Another Place to Stay »

Check-in staff was not at all friendly or accommodating. I requested a 1st floor room as I use a cane and walker. He refused, saying they were full that night. It was very apparent then and later that night that this was not true. He just didn't want to be bothered. Room was so small that when someone was working at the desk, you had to climb over the bed to get to the other side of the room. It was difficult to access the internet. Bed was way too soft. Unfortunately, there are few lodging options in Alturas, CA.
