"Quaint ! "

Basic hotel , cute finishing touches and very helpful staff ! Nice if you just need a spot for the weekend . The bartender was particularly lovely and made my friends a cheese platter once they got back to the hotel after a night of partying ! They also stored our luggage for free .

"Great for young people wanting to party"

Great staff. Beds comfortable and clean. The area could though be challenging for some people. It's very multicultural and lively, as mentioned by some travellers. However, we did not experience any annoyances or crime - only really nice and helpful people on Barbés. Anyone who is open minded and tolerant will find the area convenient thanks to the connections. Our quadruple room was quiet and well isolated so we slept well. Small issues with room floor cleanliness and bathroom odours. Could be helped with making it possible to open the window and wiping the nice wooden floor regularly. I believe the ventilation doesn't work well which should be checked up. We were able to open an emergency exit door out (directly in the room) to ventilate so not so big issue, but openable window would be easier. I was missing a minibar/fridge as with kids it gets expensive to eat out all the time. Had some issues with the heating in bathroom but received compensation for that in our hotel bill and I guess it's been fixed by now already. Bring slippers and you'll be fine I would say as the floor indeed is wooden and quite cold. The rate was affordable anyway for a family and still really close to city centre, some 3-4km walk only over Sacre Coeur and Montmartre - which is a really nice area. There's a Carre four market next door which has very good and affordable sortiment. Bakery some 100m away.To avoid: Rue de la Chapelle Indigo parking, and that street in general - trafficking of you name it ongoing on that street and rough sleeper blocked entrance to the garage around noon (!). Street parking on side streets close to hotel is probably better. On Barbés you cannot park as all spots are marked "livraison" - delivery. But it's possible to stop and unload car in front of the hotel with some Parisien savoir vivre attitude. In general our experience was nice and we rested well and enjoyed our walks around Montmartre.

"Dangerous location"

Hotel was located on a dangerous street and I was surprised nobody mentioned this in any review. I was traveling alone and didn't feel safe walking to or from the hotel. The local metro stop Barbès-Rouquet (excuse the spelling) please stay away from. The hotel was also quite grubby. Stains on the chairs in the foyer. Bedrooms were very small and I could hear the next door guests.

"Lovely time in Paris"

We spent few days in Paris and this hotel have been a perfect place to do so. Ideally located, it allowed us to enjoy paris and its unexplored neighborhoods. The staff were very helpful , especially Corentin who made our journey a pleasant one and took the time to tell us more about all the facilities. I definitely recommend this location

After finding this place, checking in and walking around, we were pleased and excited to stay here for 5 nights. Wonderful staff, a grocery shop next door, what seemed like a clean room with a lovely view. Until.... we started itching. We slept well the first night, but woke up with bite marks on our back, feet & chest. We just dismissed it and assumed we had mosquito or spider bites. That night around 1:00am, after a very long day of sight seeing, we were in bed and saw something crawling on the sheets. It was a bed bug. We looked it up online and confirmed it was a bed bug. My husband went downstairs and told the receptionist, who told him the hotel was full and we could not transfer to another room. We had to show him a photo of the bed bug online, and because he would not go up to the room himself to look at the bed, we put several bed bugs we found in a cup and brought them down to him. While my husband was downstairs trying to get another room or transfer to another hotel, I pulled up the sheets and saw black smear marks all over the mattress, indicating bed bug infestation. I also picked up the mattress and found multiple dead bugs under the bed, and live bugs under the mattress. (see photos attached) We googled bed bugs and showed the receptionist what they were, he then agreed to put us in another room. The other room was small, and not like the first room, but we understood the hotel was booked and were happy to be out of the bug infested room. We called priceline (who we booked with) to try to get transferred to another hotel. We felt itchy and gross and wanted to get out of that hotel but we had no where to go, by this time it was 3:00am. The next morning, the lovely receptionist moved us to 601, a room similar in size to the room we had. When we got into 601, while unpacking, I was looking for a receipt in a plastic laundry bag from our previous room and saw a bed bug. The bed bug had crawled into that bag and followed us to 601!! I immediately showed the receptionist that checked us in the bug. It was at that point that she told us the upsetting news. The room we were in, room 503, they knew had bed bugs. The hotel had an exterminator come out just over the weekend and were specifically told not to put guests in that room for two weeks. Yet, we were put in the room just 2 days later, filled with gas fumes and placed on the EXACT same beds that were sprayed for bed bugs. This is why there were so many dead bed bugs and some that were very much alive. They did not change the mattress, nor did they bother to clean up all the dead bugs under the bed. I emailed a complaint to the manager, we still haven't heard back, nearly 5 days later. Im certain people are still in that room. Do not stay here. The lack of effort and care in cleaning up bed bugs makes me think the entire hotel may be infected.

Dear momofmany4321, First of all, please et me apologize again. It was a succession of bad experiences and we are really sorry about that. The hotel has been fully renovated less than 2 months ago and it's not infested. We welcome guest from all around the world and it can happens that they bring bugs with them. We immediately solved the problem as soon as you warned us. The communication we had with the technician was that we were able to sell again the room within two days after his intervention, not two weeks. But again, I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding. I agree that we never should have relocated you in the same room. The problem is solved now, we have treated once again the room and changed all the bedding. Once again, I apologize in the name of all the team, this bad experience is not we want to our guest to remember. . Marie Helene Le Maréchal Directrice

"Pretty average"

This hotel is located very close to La Sacre Couer and if that's what you're looking for then its the right hotel. However, consider the following as well: 1. The street the hotel is located on has many hair salons and a couple of supermarkets and no restaurants - so be prepared to walk a couple of streets up/down if you want a place to relax. 2. The receptionist is also the bar tender and the only staff member on duty. This means that bar guests will get preference over you and if you are checking out, prepare to wait 10/15 minutes as the receptionist deals with other customers. 3. The wifi was out for most of the evening of the 1st July and the morning of the 2nd of July. When I first informed the receptionist about this he said he was not a IT technician so he will see what he can do. Apparently an IT technician was called in but the receptionist in the morning wasn't informed about this and didn't know about the problem. They did keep my bag for me after I checked out and appreciated that. I also left my charger in the room and they had kept that aside.

"Lots of improvements since my last stay"

I stayed in this place few years ago and I can say that it has definitely changed in a positive way. My room with double bed was renovated with modern furniture, very comfortable, clean and soundproof (important in Paris!). Location is great with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and a metro station to move around. Staff of the hotel has been very helpful during my whole stay. The manager was also very welcoming and giving me tips for my stay in Paris. Will definitely book again if I come back to Paris!

I checked into the family room which is located on it's own side floor next to an open room with TVs displaying security cameras around the hotel (a little weird). I immediately noticed the room was covered in a light powdery film, like maybe they had done construction in the room and left all the furniture and not cleaned up afterwards. Everything I touched had a powdery dust on it, including pillows. The bathroom looked like it had started to be renovated, but was not completed. Some tile was falling off, a hole in the ceiling where the lighting was, grout on the tile had not been wiped after installing, dirty around the toilet, sink dirty, etc. There was no interior lock to the room, no peephole, and no phone to the downstairs, did not feel secure. There was a window in the bathroom shower that opens to a small utility closet and it was very uncomfortable taking a shower while people were going in and out of this room right outside the window. I decided to check out on the first morning (we had booked 3 nights) because of the lack of cleanliness and generally not feeling very private. The front desk receptionist was very friendly and understanding and confirmed that the room had recently been renovated and we were the first to stay in the room - which is where all the powdery dust came from. He advised that I email the manager my concerns and request a refund of some of our nights (that were prepaid). Never got a response. Paying for the full three nights was worth it to stay in a different, cleaner hotel for our vacation. Avoid this hotel.

"Superb little gem in a good location"

I booked this hotel a few weeks ago for a weekend stay for 4 of us. After reading a few reviews I was a bit worried about the location but it was absolutely fine and minimum noise. Our rooms were clean and had all we needed. Breakfast was lovely with fresh produce each morning. The staff were very polite and friendly and on check out I had a big issue with payment but the manager did resolve it a few hours later in a professional and courteous manner. I would for sure stay here for my next visit to Paris.

"Very comfortable and well situated"

The gracious, multilingual staff made us feel right at home. The room was nicely appointed and looked out on a garden. The bed was comfortable. The neighborhood is interesting, with lots of "New French" residents and shops. It's a short walk to several nice restaurants and markets. The breakfast buffet always includes good coffee, fresh fruit juices, croissants, baguettes and cold cuts.

"Great little hotel"

When in Paris we always stay in Montmartre. Previously we have stayed in a much more expensive hotel which we have visited many many times. We booked late so our usual hotel was full. We thought as the hotel was so reasonably priced for the area it was going to be very basic. To our surprise it was small but absolutely lovely. I see people have complained about noise. We had a back room on the top floor. Yes it's a little noisy but it's not the flats opposite it's the centre of Paris and Montmartre. It's not the quietest neighbourhood. The hotel is in a very muti cultural part of the city it is not dangerous it's right next to a supermarket and a 7 or 8 minute walk to Sacre Coeur. Full of places to eat and drink and a stone throw to a metro line. It's at the end of a refurb but caused us no issues at all. We will definately be back! Thanks for a great 2 days.

"Not impressed"

I stayed at the hotel in December 2017. When I returned home I realised that I had paid twice for the same room. I appreciate that mistakes can happen and I presumed that the matter would be resolved promptly. However, 5 months on I have yet to receive a refund despite providing evidence via bank statements. Apparently the mater is now closed as the hotel are denying that I paid twice. I am utterly disgusted with the response from the hotel and customer services and will not be staying at any Best western hotels in the future.

"would score better if air con worked"

We had 2 single rooms and these seem to end in 08. 408 was ok but air con did not work , 508 ok 608 had bit extra space. they all looked out onto rear courtyard and noisy apartments. With window open could hear traffic too. But much quieter than those at front facing busy main road.the staff were really nice but they promised things and then did not action them. they twice said they would fix air con but didnt and eventually found out the air con was only working on floors 5 and 6! the single rooms are very tiny but have a double bed. breakfast is good - 3 breads , croissants, fresh boiled eggs conserves cereal juice. some beds are very hard. very close to the tube and only 3 stops from gare du nord for eurostar. area seems intimidating but actually was quite safe. good restaurants nearby - Sacre Fleur and lovely family L'Assiette

We apologize about the air conditionning, everything is working now and we are ready for summer ! Thanks again for all you comments and we hope to welcom you again soon. Have a lovely day, Marie Hélène LE MARECHAL

"Think again"

If you have already booked or thinking of doing so then think again. Had a group booking for 5 twin rooms for three nights made six months ago. On arrival at around 2230 were told they had overbooked and no rooms were available, really not even one of the five! Offered 5 rooms in another Best Western 10 minutes plus walk away but no offer of transport to get there. Had to take the offer at that time of night but were only able to stay there for one night as that one was then fully booked. Had to carry luggage back to original in morning for safe keeping. Returned in afternoon book in and had to wait for rooms to be cleaned. Eventually given keycards to one of the rooms only to find it was occupied by a lone female (not currently in room). Eventually got a room sorted only to find it was a double (2 males sharing), had to accept as only room available. This is supposed to be a 4 star but would only rate it 2 star at best. The rooms are very basic. Renovations still on going and some areas are a mess. Earlier reviews have already outlined the area, if you want to proposition a young woman then you will be fine. Just two plus points, the staff were as helpful and apologetic as they could be and the typical continental breakfast was good. Other wise management need looking at.

"Long weekend in paris"

Booked through superbreak. Seeing reviews on here did leave me to wonder what we would find when we arrived. Yes hotel is going through a refurb, yes the area is not the most beautiful of the city but never felt unsafe at all. Staff at hotel really friendly and welcoming. Given a little map and helpful with advise of places to see and visit. Breakfast cereal fresh juice and lots of breads cheeses cold meats but plenty to fill up on. Room was small but adequate for our needs.shower hot and a good power and bathroom in general clean. Bed very comfortable and a good night's sleep was had. Will return next year to see how much hotel has changed after refurb. Overall very good value hotel.

Lovely small hotel. Currently undergoing refurb work which didn't bother us. Staff very friendly especially the man who worked the afternoon/nights. Not the best location for Paris. "Lovely staff and facilities "

Seeing so many bad reviews but I can't understand why! The area it's self was not the best in Paris, but didn't feel unsafe at all! We enjoyed exploring the area and the locals were lovely and helpful. The hotel had just gone through renovations and were still going on while we stayed but we knew this before traveling. And it's looks stunning. The gentleman that greeted us when we arrived could not have been nicer! They spoke very good English and very helpful throughout our stay. This is pit first holiday away from the UK and bith of us was very nervous to be going somewhere strange that we knew very little about, but the staff made it very easy for us. The rooms are small but when your in Paris your not really doing much more than sleep! They are clean and comfortable. We will definitely be coming back again and also we can't thank the staff enough for how welcoming they made us feel nothing was to much trouble for them... again thank you! From the very obvious English couple in room 404 over Valentine's 2018 !

The location is very dodgy and the surrounding area not very safe. The hotel itself is just ok. The rooms are TINY!! "Holiday from Hell"

I and my partner booked a 4 night stay in Paris to celebrate my partner's 30th birthday. I booked the holiday as a package deal through TUI via Superbreak and the travel agent recommended accommodation near the Moulin Rouge when I explained our interests and why we were going. I booked the holiday on 24th October 2016 so we were organised and I could sort all the necessary arrangements out. I also asked the travel agent to add a note to our booking saying that it was a special occasion and therefore, something complimentary might be an option at the hotel's discretion. We were booked as bed and breakfast at the hotel. When the 31st of May arrived and we found our hotel however, we were shocked to discover that the area was rough and filthy and we wondered where on earth we had come. Matters were made worse however, when we went to check into the hotel. The man on reception informed us that we hadn't been booked in to the hotel at all and promptly declared "we were lucky to get a room". We had to go through the whole booking process again etc. passport details, dates of birth. I was genuinely shocked to discover this was the case and felt extremely frustrated when I had been really organised and booked it in October. I then mentioned to him that it was a special birthday for why we were here and he said nothing has come through from Thomson/Superbreak to inform them of this. He said he had no idea who we were until he saw us and we had to do the checking in all over again. When we did finally go to our room, it was tiny and there was no gesture upon arrival for us as stated by reception. I went back to reception to ask for another room, to be told that other guests weren't checking out until the next day and so could we wait until the next day. Obviously, this wasn't what we wanted to hear, when we had just unpacked. The man then preceded to say that there "wasn't much point anyway, as the rooms are all the same size". I was even more frustrated and when I mentioned the gesture for the 30th birthday, he said to come and find him on Friday (we checked in on a Wednesday) to see if he could sort something out. When Friday did come, he was nowhere to be seen and when we caught him in the evening there was no offer of even some complimentary cocktails for our trouble. I found him very unhelpful and obviously, this was not the start we wanted for our holiday. The location itself was appalling and I was devastated that it had been recommended to me by a staff member. We saw needles on the floor, people passing drugs around not to mention all of the begging and poverty in between. I appreciate that this goes on in many places, but we didn't even feel safe to stay in the area so we endeavoured to go out every day to another part of Paris. Obviously we came home extremely disappointed with our trip, not to mention the ruining of a 30th birthday. I paid a lot of money due to going in the school holidays and I am not satisfied in the slightest. It has put me off going to Paris again and we have lost confidence in TUI and Superbreak as travel companies. We will not be using either travel agent again when we book our next holiday.

"Best situated hôtel because 2 stations to Gare du Nord (easy with luggage to reach)"

For sure I KEEP the adress. Advantage: one of the last Metro'station on line 4 (direction Porte de Clignancourt). Bring your luggage when arriving, they keep it when you left, until 11 pm if necessary. The line 4 go directly to Metro Châtelet (closed until 4th of march), station to Cathedral Notre-Dame, and a big cross to other line... so easy. They renovate the Hôtel until april.. Room so nice. Good breakfast (but no an american one). Very good bed, all is new.. Hot water, good heating... Next door supermarket to buy water... street markt closed to buy fruit very cheap.Post in front of it. Crew of the reception very friendly and helpful. Very closed to Montmartre.Basilique du Sacre-coeur is opened at 6,30 am. Go to Montmartre after breakfast to avoid the file ...

"If you're from London, think Brixton. If you're from New York, Brooklyn."

If you're from London, think Brixton. If you're from New York, Brooklyn circa. 2009, not the gentrified versions. Currently going through a refurbishment we were fortunate enough to be housed in twin room 202, on the second floor. From viewing the pictures it is: ? clean ? contemporary ? simple ? and to the point No complaints; staff are efficient and approachable. The inconspicuous hotel sits in between 2 metro station so it is easy to navigate your way around the city of Paris. Because it is on a main road close to every possible amenity needed. ...Cedric advised renovations should be completed by April 2018 with a full bar, restaurant...the works

"Not a bad place or location"

Clean rooms and friendly staff. Area is not nearly as bad as some of the reviews made it seem. Though it does give off the vibe of being a little 'homeless-y', not one person bothered us at all and we never once felt unsafe, even returning at 2 a.m. Hotel itself was client (no loud patrons), but is located on a very busy street. Could hear people talking until 3 a.m. and lots of sirened vehicles drive by. Is nearby a subway stop and has a grocery store right next door.

"Visit to Paris"

Room was very dirty, not enough towels for 2 persons, room was very small, reception area was very dusty and dirty, management to collect additional towels from reception, asked for wake-up call but did not receive one, unwelcome solicitation right outside hotel reception

"Good situation in a multicultural area."

The road leading up from Gare du Nord to hotel was full of street sellers .The hotel itself was clean and tidy ,the room was satisfactory although the hairdryer was broken in the bathroom. The breakfast was of a decent standard although at times the supplies were slow to be replenished. One downside was no bar area whilst another was no toilet facilities except in your bedroom which for us was on the fifth floor. The staff were very helpful and friendly especially Cedric. Iwould rate this hotel as 3 star certainly not 4Star

"OKAY Hotel"

Ideally located to get around Paris, no bar or communal toilets but other than that, clean and friendly. Rooms a tad on small size and no draws for storage and dimly light. That is me being picky though, would not prevent me from going again.

"nice hotel staff very helpfull"

after walking from the gare du nord, we walked through the african community. very rough looking and daunting. however carried on the people are quite harmless just pester for you to by stuff cheap designer copys. so dreaded the hotel bit. on arrival at the hotel it did not look bad from the outside. we entered the lobby. and was greeted by a very friendly man on the desk. we had a room on the third floor. on entering the room. was very happy and surprised the room was clean and nicely laid out, the bathroom was clean with a very good shower. when we went to the reception to ask anything they could not have done more, very helpfull nothing was too much bother. did not matter who was on duty they were friendly and helpfull. breakfast was very good and very fresh with a good selection. my advice is take the local area for what it is. we did not feel at risk walking around the area. also as a foot note paris has alot of police, so you feel safe anywhere in paris. the beggers are very inventive. one begger by a bus stop had another begger dummy crouched over across the road. and controlling it from the bus stop, so she can move it to look real when go near it.

"Ideal for visiting the Montmartre area"

This hotel is in a multicultural area a few minutes walk away from Sacre Coeur and Montmartre and close to metro stations. While many reviewers mention feeling unsafe, as a couple we did not feel in any way threatened even late at night. Maybe as a single woman I would have felt differently. The hotel door is locked but the Receptionist is right there to open the door as soon as you press the bell. The hotel is clean, and in very nice condition. While our room was small, it had everything we needed. The bed was particularly comfortable and the coffee machine was a very pleasant addition. The toilet is tiny, might be a bit difficult for a larger guest but the shower, which is separated from the sleeping area by a frosted glazed wall is large. We felt that this was the perfect hotel for an exploration of this wonderful area, a visit to La Cigalle and easy access to other parts of the city. For €73.30 a night we would definitely return.

"Kicked-out of room whilst I was out!!"

Situated in a rough area of Paris (Barbes) As if this wasn't bad enough, upon my arrival back to the hotel on my second day,I returned to find that my room key wouldn't work,I was then told by reception that I had left without checking out, they had removed all of my belongings out of the room and given another guest my room,I told them I had booked two nights and not one, after they checked this they could see I was right so (without any apology from them) they gave me this other awful 'family' room located somewhere in the basement 'with two extra beds!!' I was told (i'm a single traveller!!) And it's features were a broken sink, missing shower curtain and a non-existant view and the cleaners bathroom spray still left in there,as if this whole ordeal wasn't bad enough, the next morning they took the city tax from me and then when I arrived back in the uk I found they had also taken it again from my bank account!!..Shocking that this is a 4 star hotel,I have stayed in better 2 star places!!-Avoid like the plague!!

"Short break with my daughters"

The hotel itself is ideally located to Paris Gord train station, although we got a taxi when we arrived as we didn't know that! The reception staff were lovely and welcoming. Our rooms were fine, more than adequate. However outside on the main road was a very different experience. Groups of young men selling 'stuff', from roasted corn to furniture and everything in between. It was very uncomfortable for me and two teenage daughters to walk through. Had I known his I would not have stayed there. It seems also to be the area for the homeless and beggars. We tended to go out after our fantastic breakfast, served by a lovely lady, and not come back until about 8pm and then stay in our rooms, not the best thing to be doing in the evening but we had no choice. One evening we came back and the receptionist had locked the front door! Scary! She did open it for us but locked it straight away again. It was only 8pm, she clearly felt unsafe too. Our stay was marred on the last day as I came back to my room to find my door open, it had been left by the cleaner in the morning. Luckily nothing had been taken but not good and quite scary for me. As a single parent I would not recommend it, with a male in the party we may have felt less intimidated. It is a shame as it is in an ideal spot for walking into the main tourist area and getting about even on the metro, we walked everywhere as to was such a lovely few days weather wise and it meant we could see the different areas, we chose a different route to take everyday.

"OK but not a 4 star"

I booked a trip for 8 friends and family to Paris to celebrate my 40th birthday in April 2017. We booked a package deal through and chose this hotel as it was the best location-wise of what they had. I visit Paris regularly and my favourite area is Montmartre so this seemed ideal. Unfortunately, we had numerous issues on the journey there (Eurostar delays, a friend being ill, arriving a lot later than scheduled....) so were not in the best of moods on arrival but the receptionist was friendly and welcoming. A number in our party got lost on the way to the hotel (mainly because they had put the WRONG Best Western into their sat nav app - be warned there is another one nearby!) but I would say it is fairly easy to walk to from the Gare du Nord, straight up Boulevard Magenta, cross the road at Barbes Rochechouart and continue up the Boulevard Barbes. Or a taxi wouldn't be too expensive. It's true that the area is a little rough round the edges but it is a bustling part of the city and I've never had any problems there. The main issue we found was that the nearest metro station - Chateau Rouge - was closed for the duration of our stay and there were a lot of roadworks going on around it. We hadn't been warned about this in advance so it caused a few problems getting around but was manageable. While the rooms were adequate, fairly spacious and clean, I don't think it was up to a 4 star level. The air conditioning was not working correctly - on the hottest day/night of the year up to that point! - so the rooms were unbearably hot most of the time but we couldn't leave windows open as the main road outside was so noisy. We asked at reception but were told that two floors of the hotel would have to be closed to sort out the air con problem!? Another disappointment was that the Best Western website promised complimentary hot drinks and cakes between 2 and 6pm but these were melting and covered in flies by the time we got back from sightseeing so were inedible. Why couldn't they have been kept covered? Why weren't they replenished through the day? I know it's just a little thing but it's the small details that matter. But on a positive note, the hotel is a short (but steep!) walk from the lovely surroundings of Montmartre, Sacre Coeur and loads of nice restaurants. The continental breakfast was delicious and offered a good choice. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay - it's a shame we weren't 100% satisfied.

"City Break in Paris"

We booked a cheap deal to Paris, travelling on Eurostar and were pleased it included a Best Western Hotel and was only a couple of stops on the metro from Gare du Nord. The hotel didn't disappoint. Clean, adequately sized rooms ('spacious' for Paris) and a nice breakfast in a small dining room. Above all, the front of house staff deserve a special mention. Valentine for booking tickets for Sainte Chapelle and graciously answering all of our questions. Cederic for his dining recommendations (we only managed to get to one of them, but it was excellent), his charm and his sense of humour. He couldn't have been more helpful. I write this review without revisiting others' comments. Firstly, a lesson learnt - always research neighbourhoods and check out Tripadvisor before 'signing on the dotted line' i.e. if I'd read the reviews first, I wouldn't have booked this trip: Chateau Rouge is an impoverished area and we had the impression that people were struggling to make ends meet. There were many men selling sweet corn from barbecues made from supermarket trollies, watches , handbags, hairpieces etc which were portable enough to be moved when the police arrive. Generally, there were many many people on the streets, throughout the day and night. Young men sitting in rows in doorways (i.e. suggestive of homelessness), and those clearly homeless (e.g. sleeping on mattresses on the street). Numerous prostitutes, standing not just by the Afro hairdressers, nailbars etc, but by the supermarket, suitcase shops etc. The daily street market near the metro entrance rendered the stairway treacherous due to the amount of litter (cleared daily). I should add that we didn't have any trouble, just felt wary and reluctant to spend any time in the area. We're sorry that we are unlikely to be returning to Best Western Sacre Coeur, and even sorrier that we won't experience again the excellent service provided by their staff

"Good but the area "

I've stayed in this hotel for one night as it's a close to my work in Paris. Staff : I've found them friendly, helpful. They have checked me in one and half hour early. Maybe their English is not great. At least, at one point was hard for me to communicate with them on the phone from my room Breakfast : I don't know as I didn't take breakfast. Room : room is clean and big. Maybe it's not modern but thr toilet and shower is. There is no fridge in the room but there is kettle. I was disappointed with the TV as it's a small TV. So watching TV while you are laying down on the bed is not great experience. There is an air condition in the room Location : there is a subway station in walk distance but I need to warn you about the location as thr inner streets around the hotel is it safe. I've found them not safe even in day time. The hotel located on the main road but I rally feel even on the main road wouldn't be safe evening. It's a bad area. I think my review about the location matches many other review about it. I've given the hotel three stars for the location, no fridge, small tv and old style room

"The best location..basically a faultless hotel"

This is Paris, rooms can most of the time be small. But this one is of a good size. Beds are comfy room is clean and the staff are extremely helpful. Montmartre in my opinion is the best place in Paris. Funky and cool with a great vibe

This hotel seemed OK upon arrival but we did not see the macoroon or the coffee facilities as described by others. The rooms are quite small but clean. The breakfast was quite fresh and nice albeit in a small area. The hotel suffers greatly because despite being located centrally, it is nevertheless not safe to be out late as there are prostitutes and drug addicts roaming around just outside the hotel.

"Avoid Red light district, drugs, thieves"

Totally honest review- I took my friend for a surprise. The hotel is misleading. We got in a taxi from train station after Euro star and the taxi driver told us to be very careful that we are staying in a bad area. The streets are very scruffy dirty and we did not know that it was a red light district which also has drug pushers and pimps on streets. Right outside the doors of the hotel in the evening a white van pulls up to hand out condoms and do health checks. ( great idea for the community prostitutes but outside a so called 4 star hotel) We were approached by men and drug users whilst walking to the tube station at least 10-15 mins walk away so that is enough. We went to walk down a street and a shop keeper told us to don't dare go that way we would be in danger. When we returned in the night time we were so alarmed that our bedroom door had been left ajar with a stool in the way. We ran downstairs asking why the hotel staff had not noticed this. They only gave one member of staff on duty and they are apparently never allowed to leave the desk. The member of staff told me it was the cleaner and that he would inform the manager. We frantically checked through our room and thankfully nothing had been stolen. Considering how bad the area was outside we were so frightened in case we had been targeted. I was disgusted and it wasted hours of our trip worrying and feeling unsafe. The manager apologised the next day and of was sympathetic but this doesn't change what happened. I have been refunded half of my bill for a 2 night stay but still this does not change the fact that the next morning when the manager arrived I had to talk to her for over an hour and she could not resolve the situation until I complained to head office. As a so called 4 star hotel they should know what happens outside the hotel doors. I am a nurse so do not begrudge the service provided for local prostitutes but this really was the icing on the cake! As 2 females We would not recommend this hotel as the area is frightening. I am used to living in London and from Liverpool so I'm not afraid of a bit of a rough area, but this takes the biscuit!!!! Don't order a taxi from the hotel the staff called it for us and we got ripped off paid double for journey that was half the price on our return! Just flag one on the street outside as they are reasonable. The noise outside in the night is horrendous because of the local working girls. Don't go for a smoke outside as you may be mistaken for being in their turf! The room is clean and there is a coffee machine down stairs. But many other hotels in Paris offer a clean room and coffee but less chance of being robbed. As a very well travelled person I was unhappy with the whole experience and it ruined the trip and we were late for our day trip the next day!

"For the price, should have made their breakfast complementary"

It was a pretty nice hotel, though for their prices, they should have made the breakfast complimentary to guests instead of being an extra charge. Also, I don't know if it's just how European bathrooms are, but the bathroom layouts are just not well thought out. The toilet brush is mounted on the wall so close to you and the sink and the toilet paper holder is waaay behind you (which in our room was not so helpful being that the water tank line which was right under that leaked some and if you weren't paying attention, you'd get wet toilet paper :/ ) At least they had a shower set up with a door (unlike some places we went that had a shower bath, but just a partition instead of a curtain). The first day we were there I believe the drain must have been partially clogged because the water would drain very slowly and you would have to turn the water off for a bit so it would not overflow. The second day I think they fixed it because the water drained just fine, though somehow water was leaking out of the side by the wall somehow. As for the housekeepers, I guess they don't pay much attention to their signs about keeping towels, because we didn't put our towels in the sink to be taken, but had them laid out to dry so we could use them again, though they took all the towels in the room anyway. I had also brought my own washcloth and I'm thinking this happened when they cleaned the drain, but I believe they dropped my towel while they were cleaning (god forbid if they had actually used it to clean) because I noticed it looked partially bleached of its color - needless to say I did not use that towel again for that trip. And I guess after cleaning our room for a couple days already they seemed to not care so much and I think on our last day when they had cleaned up, knocked the plastic cups off the sink, which landed on the toilet brush and just left it there. Yeah, it could have been worse for them to just picked it back up and put it on the sink, but how much trouble would it have been to replace them with new ones? I also had went downstairs to get another towel for the room though because whoever cleaned the room the last time did not replace all the towels they took and for some reason they said they would send someone up with a towel. I bothered to go down there to get the towel, why they couldn't just give it to me while I was already there instead of having to wait for someone else to bring it up? The coffee they had downstairs in the nespresso thing was very good though, I think it was the brazilian I had tried. And they also had this snack time thing at certain times of the day where they put out little cookies (the name of them escapes me at the moment) and donuts, so that was nice.

"Nice hotel in the 'real' paris"

Nice room, nice staff. The coffee and yummy corner are free and a nice touch. Room was clean and tidy. The area was safe for us. We had no issues although I can understand why some might think it unsafe at night as the neighbourhood has ladies of the night outside. They were no hassle. The hotel is well located for the metro and bus. I would stay there again if I needed to.

"Good position"

Small hotel in Paris Mont Mart. Good position, close to metro and not so far from centre by feet. Little breakfast room, but sized to meet all guest. Not so much to eat, but good quality. My room was small, not so much space for the baggage. Bathroom bigger than expected. Inwas surprised that there was only a towel in there, for shower, without anything smaller for hands or face. There was a mirror broken but i found a messege signed by one manager to say sorry about that. I appreciated.

"Not a 4 Star Hotel"

I used Priceline to book this Hotel on name your own price. Wanted a 4 Star hotel in a safe area of Paris so named my price as I had done so many time before. I trusted that 4 Star according to Priceline is (4-STAR HOTELS The personalized customer service, elegant décor, and amazingly high standards of comfort at these hotels are simply unbeatable. ) Far from this description I know standard is much lower in France even base on that this is no way close. Area is very bad no way if I knew I would even get close to this place had to ask the Hooker standing in the door way to move so I can get in!!! Its so run down big puddle of water in the middle of the bathroom that never even got cleaned let alone fixed. Asked the maid for towels and I am sure she was cursing me in French she was not happy about this request, Because she did not even have a cart to carry supplies to the rooms Place is run by few teenagers when I told them about problems they said sure we will do are best and take care of it I had paid for 4 days not refund able due to name your own price and not even get room service let alone fix anything. Was offered to move to next door room that was even more derelict than first room and did not have window in the bathroom. If I had knew what I was getting into and had a chance I would not even write this comment but Since I came back I had tried to see what is Priceline policy on the Hotel rating all they told me is the Hotel did not offer any thing so that is what its is and Expedia uses the same rating and soooo it is 4 Star Hotel. I stayed from May 5th till 9th 2017.Not safe for anyone let alone an old American tourist that trusted a company to book this room. Priceline let me down and I would never use them again. Even the rate they gave me was a lie should have been up to 40% or less than published rate it was only $3.00 less. Had a very basic breakfast the last day I was there and felt so uneasy because the Lady that runs the place was watching my every move and had yelled at me on the second day I was there just because I wanted a cup of cafe after 10 am! I felt hopeless and let down y both price line and Best Western.

"Bad location to sat with family!!!!"

The staff were great and the hotel was clean, close to metro and buses and it all about the nice thing I can say, but horrible location to stay with the family. There were prostitutes on the street and in front of the hotel after 10pm so if you are planning on staying late night and return back with kids I don't recommend it. The rooms were very small, and bathrooms smaller. Definitely not a 4 start hotel.

"Good and bad "

We stayed here recently for four nights. Here's my pros and cons for my stay. Pros: -Room comfortable and clean -Not a bad location close to the moulin rouge and train station -all staff spoke good English -excellent price was very affordable Close to supermaket -rooms are clean Cons: -credit card was double charged for booking ( was refunded lucky we checked) - streets a bit dodgy.. felt a bit unsafe at times - we stayed four nights and on night three we were informed we always had to leave our card at the front desk for fire safety reasons..... seems very unusual. Was annoying considering this was only implemented day 3 of 4 - one staff member wasn't informed of local amenities, asked for nearest laundry service and he didn't know ( by the way it's across the road) - decided to have a sleep in and it appears your room won't be cleaned if you leave late we did after 11am and had the please clean sign on returned at 7 with no room clean. ***Please note for those travelling with friends or someone they are not comfortable with, there is no door/seperate bathroom, so to have a shower there is no privacy at all. If you do have privacy concerns with who you are travelling with, this is not the place for you!

"Nice, Reasonably priced 'Home Base' for vacation."

Though not located in central Paris, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. Bathroom had good water pressure, beds were comfortable and a very kind, friendly and helpful staff. Very close to Metro stations as well as a couple of bus routes right outside property. One of the buses takes you right to the Arc de Triomphe. A short walk takes you to Sacre Couer Basilica.

"needs to learn customer service/care"

on first floor at front. small room with a wet room, which flooded as water didn't drain away fast enough. Room look clean but there was a smell of staleness. wet room ceiling paint was peeling away. only one bottle of water, 2 tea bags & 2 milk left in room. and that is all we got for the 2 nights. when asked for more, was told there is a supermarket next door!! no hairdryer in room. not a nice area to stay in unless you want to buy wedding dresses or suits!!! very noisy area too.

Dear guest, Thank you for your comment on Tripadvisor. I am sorry to know that your experience was disapointing. Did you tell the front desk about your shower ? We alway have the possibility to change your room when you let us know since the begining. About the tea and coffee, I think you misunderstood because we have lots of tea and coffe available in the lobby : you could have served yourself with no problem. We also serve everyday a yummy corner with food and hot beverage were you could have found even more. If you ask for more, the housekeeping put more the day after. I hope you will let us the opportunity to change your mind about our hotel in your next stay. Kind regards, Kimberley Felix GM

Very nice hotel, close to the Sacre-Coeur Cathedral and to a few Tube Stations. The staff was friendly and overall the environment was quite and relaxing. Breakfast was a bit overpriced but in general we enjoyed our stay.

"Terrible experience "

I booked this hotel through and will be reluctant to do so ever again. When going to bed I found male and female dirty underwear under my bed cover and there was no toilet roll or shower gel in the bathroom, obviously been checked into a dirty room. When I complained I was put in a smaller room until my one was cleaned until the following day (supposedly). The next day my room key was locked so I thought I was going back to the room I first checked in, no they had given it to another resident so I was left in the smaller room. The area that the Best Western is advertised on is a far cry from what it actually is, it is about 20-30 minute bus ride to the Eiffel Tower. At times me and my partner where scared to walk the streets surrounding the best western hotel. A bit of advice would be to spend a bit more money on a hotel closer to where the Eiffel Tower is located as it is such a beautiful area.

Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your opinion on TripAdvisor. We are sorry to hear that we were not able to meet your exceptions in all our service and we like to extend our sincere apologizes for this. All our rooms are the same and they are 14m2 as written in all our pages on If you felt your room was smaller it was just an impression : the size of the room do not change, it is the disposition that changes. About the area, the Best Western Montmartre Sacré-Coeur is not in the Eiffel Tower district. We never said that. It is located in the Butte Montmartre : a few steps away from the Sacre Coeur Church in the heart of Montmartre. We are located only 10 minutes by walking from the famous Place du Tertre with its artists and painters in the street drawing your pictures at will, 10 minutes from the Rue des Abbesses with all of restaurants and wine and cheese shops, and 20 minutes from the Moulin Rouge. Furthermore, we are located not only a few steps from the metro station going to the Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris (10 minutes by metro), the Eiffel Tower (20 minutes by metro), the Museum of the Louvre and the Champs Elysées (15 minutes by metro). It is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Kimberley Felix General Manager

Not far from le Sacré Choeur de montmartre this hotel is good, it doesn t deserve 4 stars it should be a god 3 stars. Rooms are not very big but quite cosy with a cofee machine. It s clean. It s quiet also if you are in the back of the street, at 5pm they have an apetisers with donuts, macarons and free cofee that s vey cool. So i would recomand this hotel if you want to visit sacré choeur.

"Didn't really feel like 4 stars"

Helpful and friendly staff. However, on the day of departure the cleaner tried to enter the room twice before we left the hotel. I've always thought they clean up the rooms after the guests have checked out, but in this case the cleaner knocked and opened the door before we had any time to put our clothes on, which was pretty embarrassing. The breakfast was tasty yet we would've expected a little more. Also the room was small and didn't quite feel like we were staying in a 4 star hotel. The biggest issue however was the location. The neighbourhood felt very unsafe, especially the area right next to Chateau Rouge (which was under renovation) that was mentioned as the nearest metro station. We suggest using Marcadet-Poissonniers - which is better from these two questionable choices. All in all, the hotel itself was peaceful and clean. Had the rating been 3 stars, I don't think there would've been much to complain about - except for the location.

The gentleman at the front desk was really nice. We arrived a little early so he let us leave our bags with him at reception. Our room was ok, we were quite high up so we had a nice view. The only thing with the room was that the sockets were all far away form the bed. Breakfast was not what I was expecting. The eggs and sausages were not freshly made- out of a bag. The neighbourhood is a little rough. Good thing is that there's a supermarket nearby so you can buy food, and so is the train station. This hotel was also walking distance to Sacre coeur.

"Location, location, location ..."

What can you expect from a Best Western: small but clean rooms, a tired interior and average breakfast. So why does this Best Western deserves a 'very good' rating? Because of the friendly service, good price/quality ratio (I booked well in advance) and, above all, for the location (a mere 10-15 minutes walk from the Sacre Coeur or Gare du Nord). BTW: The area itself is actually not very scenic ...

"Oh My God"

Stayed at this hotel for one night in Transit through Paris. Yes it is in Paris in very rough neighbor hood. No on site parking and in morning some people out laying in the streets by hotel. Room super small as well as breakfast. Get there when it is still daylight and stay there as last resort but no more then one night

"Horeble ,bad "

Well were to start .At first if you can avoid this hotel its tru the hotel in Paris are bad but here i have realy bad experience there. But no, first 10 minutes the receptionist didnt give indication thath i exist. Then after i present my voucher ,he tells me that i have no room there bicouse they have problem with remont and" they will help me faind a hotel room only 10 km away with 3 stars but nice" i have paid 4 .I dint agree first becouse was far from any transportation and bad location.I have help from my turist agent. And after 2 hours walking around.Comeback and the manager give mi room wich i cane use after 8 pm ..The room i posted in photos. This should be 4 Star room .Durti, big wit 3 bads no windows .Nice view to stars .Tu the room you go with alevator with key bicouse the room is bitwin frors.Probay was a part from stears and wos transform to room Hair from cleaners and smel likke old tunel. Mu agent Advice i not to complain bicouse i wont win anything but the people have to know and avoid place like that

"Too many things that did not worked"

Water heater did not worked, Wi-Fi did not worked, only 1 cup on 2 persons room, breakfast ok. Too hot to sleep, thinking the thermometer did not worked either and propably very hot on summertime. Friendly staff. To me not a 4 star place

This hotel was very nice 4 star staff very helpful - or most of them where one or two could not be bothered. Small rooms, but I think that is very Paris. Clean, good breakfast nice people, and not to pricey would definitely stay again. The only problem was the kettle, just miss my breakfast cup of tea. It did not work, the nice lady cleaning the rooms looked at it for me and said, oh its not you (it was a different kind of kettle and I though It was me being stupid) non, non, its not you I will replace it it has brocken. True to her word she did. Only problem was the next morning that one didn't work either. Other thing that should be said is that the area at night - you need to be a bit careful. But would stay again.

"Good hotel that suffers due to location"

The hotel is an easy walk from Gard du Nord though the experience may be a little more than you expect! The staff on reception are excellent and breakfast was varied and good value. The sweet treats in the lounge from 2pm - 6pm are a bonus. Rooms are compact but clean and in good condition. Bathroom though small is well laid out with an excellent shower. Tea and coffeee making facilities was also a bonus. I would recommend the hotel but not the area it is in. Street sellers offering mobile phones, cigarettes, corn on the cob and other services occupy pavement space from m mid morning till late. Choose a room at the back of the hotel as traffic noise lingers till late. The nearest Metro is closed until 2017 but go out of the hotel and turn right and you will fall no another within 5 minutes walk. If you decide to walk into the centre cross the road as this side appears to be less of a commercial street selling domain. Again good hotel but ............

"Good value for money, shame about the neighbourhood"

This is a great hotel. The staff are very courteous, the breakfast fresh and varied and great value. The rooms are a reasonable size with good facilities. Our room was at the front and it was very noisy so I would recommend you ask for one higher up and at the back of the hotel. The hotel suffers from the neighbourhood it is located in. Whilst it is close to two stations which makes travelling to the centre of Paris easy, the outside is noisy and dirty. It is in an area that is densely populated and in need of regeneration. The traffic is heavy and means that it is busy late into the night. There are a lot of local street traders who set up their stalls late into the afternoon and are there until late at night. The 'stalls' are old supermarket trollies with a brazier in on which they cook corn on the cob. Young men gather on street corners selling mobile phones and packets of cigarettes. Women sell goods from shopping bags and there are beggars on mattresses on the pavement. We crossed the road to walk to the train station or in the one time we walked back to Gare du Nord. If I was a single traveller I would not have ventured out in the evening as there were so many people around. This is a shame as the hotel is absolutely fine.

"Good hotel"

Hotel was clean, room was lovely, comfortable bed, nice breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, area not too good, very similar to parts of London but it didnt spoil our stay. Recommend the open top bus best way to see the sites.

"There are a lot better hotels around"

I always stay in a Best Western in Paris. This is my first time here and I won't be back. Hotel is not in a good neighbourhood. I was propositioned twice on the way in later on. Very oppressive feel on the street too. Room was small. Also skirting coming off the wall and a repair to the wall was incomplete - see photos. I'm a platinum card holder and I'm meant to get a free upgrade??. I would hate to see the other rooms. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was clean I won't be back, there are a lot better at a similar price

"Lovely hotel"

Lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff The rooms are quite small but very clean Ensuite bathrooms Tea and coffee making facilities and flat screen TVs. Breakfast is continental Includes toast, croissants, eggs, sausage, ham, cheese etc Orange/apple juice and tea/coffee Reception staff very friendly and were able to offer advice on the metro and places to eat. Would definitely return here

"Lovely hotel"

Hotel was clean and very well presented with very helpful staff. There was both free wifi and a free safe to use which were both very useful. The staff were friendly and welcoming and always willing to help with what was needed. The room was comfy and came with aircon which was very welcome in the 34C heat. Easy access to Metro stations which meant it was relatively easy to get into central Paris The shower was slow to drain and on the 2nd day we had to go and get the keys reactivated. The area was slightly rougher than expected and I wouldn't recommend this hotel for young families or travelers who are likely to be out late at night. Overall however it was perfect for the short trip that we took

"Good. Dispels the myth about poor service in France."

In the heart of Paris, you expect the rooms to be quite small, and that was the case at BW Sacre Couer. It was however, nicely decorated and comfortable and when the weather's good in Paris, who wants to spend a lot of time in the room? Problems with the air con developed the first evening and when they couldn't be fixed by Cedric the receptionist / concierge / tourism advisor (more of him later) he moved us into an identical room on a lower floor. Both rooms were at the back of the hotel which was nice and quiet. We chose the hotel to be (wife's words) "In the centre of everything", and this part of Montmartre is certainly very lively. It's a mainly African community (merging into Turkish / Arab as you walk a couple of hundred yards) and however late we returned, shops were still open and street traders doing business. I was a little uncomfortable at first but soon realised that the locals were friendly and helpful in every way. Most of the shops we visited were just as happy speaking English as French. The hotel is right at the base of the Sacre Coeur hill, so this can be reached in a five minute walk and offers a wealth of reasonably priced, reasonable quality restaurants (as well as all the art touts if you fancy a quick portrait). Metro and buses are both close to the hotel, and Cedric was ever ready to give advice and print maps to advice on the best ways to get places. My wife and I never had breakfast in the hotel (large, late dinners put paid to wanting to eat in the morning) and apart from that there wasn't much going on in the hotel. There was a comfortable looking lounge but we didn't use it. Beyond that though - nothing. The hotel details say no parking is available, but good old Cedric told us of a nearby garage that does a deal for guests at €24 for 24 hours. We managed to get by using on-street parking which is free from 20:00 Saturday to 09:00 Monday (but costs €0.60 for 15 minutes when it's not free) All in all, I thought it was very reasonably priced and more than adequate for what we wanted. Nice, speedy internet available (a bit of a rarity in Paris) and no complaints about anything at all. Definitely a place I'd stay again.

"Hotel good but area not that good"

Good points for this hotel are, walking distance from the train station, Underground very near too, Sacre Cour and Moulin Rogue are in walking distance too and a carrefour ( similar to tesco express) is next door to the hotel really handy. The breakfast is very good. The rooms are comfortable and they had coffee and tea amenities . Downside the area is not the best for tourist.

"Total disaster!!"

I booked to stay here for 2 nights for wife's birthday, 12-14th August. Firstly, the local area.......totally awful, just walking from the station to here was very intimidating, so many people surrounding you, very run down and if someone placed you there and asked you which city you were in the last place you would say is Paris. Now the hotel, passable on entry but when we finally looked to check in they couldn't find my reservation even though I presented them with a confirmation letter, an hour later after phone calls etc it turned out that they had overbooked and we're supposed to contact me so I could make alternative arrangements, that never happened so now it's 9.00pm, my wife and I are in a foreign country with no accommodation!! One small credit is they rang another hotel which we managed to get to but they wasn't at all bothered in the fact they had put us in a terrible situation, no offer to transport us to the new hotel either. Even if you offered me a free holiday here I wouldn't take it and I will be staying clear of this chain of hotel jokers!! For you own sake, keep clear of this place.

"Lovely Little Hotel"

The rooms are very small but we just wanted somewhere to sleep and shower. It's so clean and the staff are really friendly and very helpful. The view from our window was great it looked up the street to all the bars. The price is so reasonable considering it's so near the Moulin Rouge and it's location. Very handy for the Metro virtually right outside the door. I will definitely go back there.

"The neighborhood is a disaster!!!"

I stayed here last week. The hotel was very clean and the staff was amazing, BUT... The neighborhood that this hotel is in is atrocious! It is filthy, run down, and feels very unsafe. If you are a woman, you will be constantly harassed from the moment you step outside of the hotel. Many of the businesses on this street are closed down or covered in graffiti. The sidewalks are blanketed with trash. It is a €25-30 can ride to get to any of the major attractions with no traffic. With traffic (which is the norm),it can be as much as €40-45. My advice would be to avoid this hotel and any hotel in the Paris Nord neighborhood.

"Stinky and awful !!"

The worst hotel experience ever !!!!! The room was dirty, the bed and all the furniture seems that were not thoroughly cleaned. Our room was too small and the photos about it were misleading. The neighborhood is awful too. It is not in Montmartre, but in the outskirts of Montmartre. But the most tragic of all was that the cleaning stuff was spreading its awful smell to the whole floor while "cleaning". Definitely not the people that sb would hire for this job. Could be chosen only for emergency situations and in any case not for holidays. Low price should not justify this significant lack of quality.

"Excellent Reception people ... good location (during day)"

Well near the Sacré Coeur and Place du Tertre etc. Not too far from Metro. Reception people are TOP; poor breakfast and modest room. Elevator was 2x not working on 3 days. Slow wifi on room. ... but nice saloon with free nespresso coffee

"A Good choice to stay in Paris if you are good in Public transferring"

I stayed there alone in Jan 2016 for 3 nights and found it suitable for the people who wanna just have a resort and spent time out (Actually most people do the same in Paris) Positive points: -Availability to Metro and Bus station and close to the most monuments -Free Wifi -Friendly Staff -Easy check-in and Check-out -Price Negative points: -The breakfast -Room Service

"Stay here for the location and exceptional service"

I can't say enough about the service here - the front desk was very friendly and most helpful. I feel like they went out of their way to make my sons' first trip to Paris fun helping us with directions and pointing out places nearby. The hotel is literally a 3 block walk to the steps to Sacre Coeur and about 2 blocks to a subway station. Others have mentioned the neighborhood and trouble being approached or hassled, but we never experienced that at all. Another review mentions a restaurant Sacree Fleur, about 2 blocks away - we tried it and it is exceptional, would highly recommend it; they were able to work us in but I would recommend reservations. The only down sides to the hotel were that the room was very basic, probably like a 1 star property in the US but so many European places are more basic. We also had trouble with the elevator 2 days - it says max 4 people and it means it, DON'T try to get any more on there. Overall, I would recommend it based on the friendly helpful service.

Thank you so much for your comment. Yes all the staff is concerned by the happyness of our guests. Very soom a buffet will be set up in the afternomm with cakes and Nespresso machin for all of you free of charge of course!!!!!!!! Hope to welcome you again soon. Best regards.

"Hotel experience ~ extra charges not expected"

This hotel is situated on a busy, noisy main road, which is not entirely unexpected in a city like Paris, had not stayed in this area of Paris before, but proved to be to our benefit as it their were floods at tine around the Seine. The room was adequate, but we did ask for a back room when booking and we were given a main street room so the noise, traffic & shouting was continuous day & night. However, despite lack of storage, no facility for anyone who speaks English to watch the TV, no internet connection as it was too slow to catch a cold, it was cleaned daily, serviced & clean towels etc. My main upset was at check out which was a bit of a joke. The taxi was waiting & the staff were so slow it cost an extra 10 Euros on taxi fee, PLUS we were assured at check-in that out breakfast was included in the price, NOT SO we were charged an extra 77 Euros for 3 nights stay, not expected, and after contacting their customer service we have been totally ignored, so it was a disappointing end to our visit, we knew about the extra city tax, but they insist we paid the full extras. We noticed that the advertised rate was 20 Euro less than we paid so we took the extra to be out breakfast fee, so beware of this folks, we were unable to leave until it was settled in their favour. Our Paris stay was memorable, the hotel stay was for a different reason on check-out.

"good stay"

very clean hotel and friendly staff inside, had a back room which was quiet and no noise from the street. breakfast was very good and the sitting room was a steer pleasure to relax and read some magazines

Emmanuel V, Manager at BEST WESTERN Montmartre Sacre-Coeur, responded to this review
Thank you to have taken the time to leave a comment. The staff is doing everything possible to make your stay unforgetable!!!! Best regards.

"Hotel location"

This hotel is located in a busy district. As you go out of the hotel -you can catch the bus going to the different train station. They are next door to a supermarket so it's very convenient. It is a 10 minute walk to Sacre Coeur church. We didn't know there was a funicular going up to the church so we had to climb the stairs -more than 100 steps I think. The reception people are very friendly and helpful.

Emmanuel V, Manager at BEST WESTERN Montmartre Sacre-Coeur, responded to this review
Thank you for your nice comment!!!! Yes the old village of Montmartre on the hill is only 5 minutes away from the hotel!!! Best regards.

"A pleasant surprise"

I booked a single room and asked for a quiet one. The bed was indeed a single but it was very comfy. I was very happy with the room and it was very quiet in room 604 on the top floor. The nearest metro is Jules Joffrin; Google maps says another one is closer - if it is then it's not much closer and it's also uphill. Use Jules Joffrin if you have luggage with wheels. The whole Montmartre area is lovely, but be prepared to be hassled. Be alert and assertive to avoid getting sucked into their scams. Sacre Coeur is beautiful and the view across Paris is stunning.

"Poor service, nice rooms"

We checked into the hotel at night around 12AM from a long day. When we arrived, there was no one at the reception desk and we waited for 10 minutes for someone to arrive. When the person did arrive, it took us half an hour to check in. The person who was at the desk was very rude, saying multiple times that he didn't see my booking and that they 'don't use priceline' when in fact I booked and paid fully through priceline. Afterwards, when we tried to go into our room, our key wasn't working. So we went downstairs, and I was told that "the key didn't work because you didn't listen." Of course, it turns out that the key wasn't magnetized properly. Worst hotel experience I have ever had.

Stayed here as part of my 21st birthday present. Hotel is nice, rooms are a good size and breakfast is a good variety only down side is the location as its a little out the way. Would deffanitly stay here again though!

"good price for middle aged hotel in a lively area"

the hotel is close to sacre coeur in mont martre. this is a really lovely and enjoyable area if you ignore the horrible tourist from all over the world. lots of restaurants and bars around and a good connection via metro to the rest of paris.

"Rather a 3 stars hotel, bad neighbourhood"

(+) Friendly staff, free WiFi, comfortable bed (-) Not the best place to stay in Paris even if it's close to city center. We did not like the neighbourhood at all, scary and dirty. Tiny room, no fridge. Rather a 3 stars hotel.

"Nice hotel in a bad area"

We got a great price through Priceline Express Deals. The hotel is very nice - great room, comfortable, with strong wifi and a nice bathroom with a spacious standup shower. The staff was nice and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located at Metro stop Chateau Ruge. The only negative is that the neighborhood is not good. We did not have any problems, but it's not a good area - streets are loud, crowded and full of vagrants and solicitors during the day. It was actually better at night! I would not recommend for families but would only for seasoned travelers who know how to get through a crowd without being convinced to stop and talk to every person begging or selling.

"Great place to stay on a budget"

Decent rooms, clean beds and bathroom and helpful concierges. It's not the most glamorous of settings, but you have access to the Metro on the doorstep with some good restaurants and bars in walking distance at a sensible price, if you're booking online. The beds was a decent size, towels changed every day and good pressure and heat in the shower. Didn't have the breakfast option, but it looked fine.

"Ok Property Sketchy Area"

My adult son and I spent 3 nights recently at this property. The room was adequate and very typical size by European standards with a larger bathroom than most we've stayed in. It was reasonably clean and we were fortunate enough to be given a room overlooking the street on the 6th floor with a nice view (we asked for this request based on some other reviews). The neighborhood however was very shadey at best. I would have been very afraid if I wasn't there with my 6'4" son!! The room was not serviced the second day we were there although the housekeeper saw us leave early afternoon - when we later enquired ar the front desk we were told she already went home. Also we wanted to have some items laundered - it took TWO days to get our clothing back because the hotel doesn't have a dryer and they had to hang dry our clothes! (I could have done that in my room!) As a further note my son speaks fluent French so there was never a language barrier - the front desk staff does speak English but I felt one staff person in particular was condescending. I feel this hotel and location is over-rated - it is not in what I would consider the Monmatre area but rather on the outskirts. The immediate subway stop and street surrounding this stop is extremely crowded with people pushing and shoving- watch you purse/personal items! Nothing happened to us but as I stated I was afraid. Oh - two great things - immediately next door to the hotel was an amazing local grocery store - we went there on a couple of occasions to buy fresh bread, cheese, pate, wine, fruit etc. so we could pack up lunches. The other recommendation about 3 blocks away is a restaurant called SACREE FLEUR - one of the best restaurants we dined at - specializing in beef dishes. Reservations are highly recommended as it's a very small place (only seats about 40 people). We were lucky to have showed up on a Thursday night about 830pm and only had to wait a few minutes for a table. It closes at 1000pm. I suspect that getting a table might not be so easy on weekends. Do make a reservation just to be safe! Would we stay at this hotel again - definitely NOT but in all fairness we did get a moderate price through Next time I would read all the reviews first and pick a different area!

"Below level of expectations"

We booked room for 2 people and bed for not even enough for one person ,initially we thought it was by mistake we booked something wrong but the person at reception confirmed it is for 2 people. Didn't like it staff was ignoring our requests sometimes .

"A great base for seeing Paris"

The room was small but absolutely fine for two people with a nice bathroom and our room on the top floor even had a balcony with an incredible view over Paris. The hotel is out in the Montmatre district which can feel a little intimidating at first but is a perfectly pleasant part of Paris once you settle in. The Sacre Coeur is 15 minutes walk and all the sites of Paris are easily accesible from either of the two Metro lines which are around a five minute walk in either direction from the hotel. Would recommend as a perfect base for seeing Paris.

"Great stay for a great price"

The Best Western Montmartre Sacre-Coeur is a decently priced (for Paris), decently located, comfortable hotel. The rooms are small by North American standards, but this room size is the norm in European cities. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was very clean with a great shower. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Prior to our stay I had read many complaints about this area. Admittedly, coming out of the Chateau Rouge subway station was overwhelming, with people trying to sell things along the street, a lot of construction, and not a lot of what you'd imagine Paris to look like. That said, I would certainly not say that the area is dangerous in any way. It is an area with a high immigrant population, and I'd venture to say that those who found this area unsafe are likely just uncomfortable with the number of North African immigrants. Which is absurd. Sacre-Coeur church is right up the street, and the surrounding area there is very charming. The subway stations are very well connected on lines 4 and 12, and it is easy to access all of the typical Parisian sights. I'd happily stay here again.

"Not recommended"

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for our holidays. Despite the fact that the hotel is located in a rather disadvantaged area, we did not encounter any difficulties outside the hotel. We were, however, deceived by the staff twice, as we tried to figure out the best option of getting to CDG airport. First, one staff member told us double prices for the metro and shuttle so that we would choose a taxi. Second, another staff member helped us book a hotel-affiliated shuttle without warning us that we had to have exact change on us to pay the driver. My friend and I travelled to the airport separately and the driver did not have any change on him. This sort of deal-making is unacceptable for the hotel that claims to be a four-star place.

"Hidden gem"

Stayed at this hotel for four days for New Years Eve. Area may not be the best but the hotel is terrific with really helpful staff. My friend and I enjoyed the area and went for a walk around the very busy market both at night and in the daytime. Very close to Montmartre which is where we needed to be for NYE. All uphill on the way so you need to be fit! Also easy acces on line 12 for museums and Euffel Tower. Lots of little eateries around for lunch and dinner. Breakfast at the hotel was perfectly adequate for my friend and I as we do not eat big breakfasts. Will definitely stay again

"Fab hotel"

Very clean, comfy room on the top floor with great view. Wi Fi worked great. Staff really helpful, on our check out they let us leave our case there all day. Breakfast very good. Only 3 metro stops from train station and short walk from metro. Not a very smart area but felt safe. Really recommend this hotel.

"Not the best location for a short break"

Myself and my SO visited Paris during half term week in October and picked this hotel for the price, not realising it's actually quite a distance to the centre of Paris. The public areas of the hotel are nicely presented and clean: the reception area, there is a small seating area next to the reception and the breakfast area (it looks as it does in the photos on trip advisor, although the areas are a little smaller than the photos make them look) . There is also a good little lift to take you up to all floors if you don't want to take the stairs. The room itself seemed a little outdated to us, it's saving grace was the little en-suite which was more modern and clean. The carpet was old and tired and the mattress not particularly comfortable. The paint on the walls could do with a refresh as could the old dark furniture. There wasn't a plug socket near to the mirror in the room which caused a bit of a problem for me when trying to do my hair for a night out. The main issue for us with the room was that the walls were extremely thin and so we could hear everything went on around us: every time the room next to us flushed the toilet, when people came back late and were making noise in the corridor - they might as well have been in the room! The aircon unit was no use and we couldn't open the window as the noise from the traffic outside filled the room. The wifi in the room was awful too, we had to crouch in a spot by the door just to get one bar of wifi signal. Wifi is better in the breakfast area, but only just. The breakfast on offer was ok, there was fruit and yoghurt, a small selection of pastries and bread, deli meats and sausage, scrambled egg and boiled eggs, tea, coffee and orange juice. Although the location is close to a metro station (Chateau Rouge) it is a bit run down and doesn't feel particularly safe when it gets dark (which in October is quite early) due to people loitering about. The streets are dirty and smell. There aren't any nice little places to go for food nearby. If you are returning in the evening from the metro (or heading to it), be warned that there a lot of people selling (most likely) fake designer items and foods surrounding the entrance to/exit of the station that you'll have to battle your way through. In our opinion, not an area really suitable for tourists. If you are looking for a hotel in short walking distance to Paris centre, this is not the hotel for you. We walked in the first day and it took us around 45 minutes (possibly longer) to get there. However it's only about 15 on the underground. We spent an awful lot of our 3 days on the tube getting around. I would like to note that the staff here are very friendly and we had no problems with cleanliness or housekeeping.

Me and my fiancé have just got back after staying at this hotel. The staff are lovely, friendly and will got out of there way to help you, also the hotel is very clean and tidy and I didn't have a bad point about the hotel itself. The only thing that lets it down is the area! We made sure we got a taxi to the door if it was later than midnight but as we only slept in the hotel and we were out from 7am till midnight every day this hotel was perfect for us. If your looking to be spending a lot of time in the hotel I wouldn't stay here simply for the area but if your like me and my fiancé and want to visit places then its good with 3 metro stations very close by and the Gare du Nord train station and lots of little supermarket shops near by. We had a lovely stay here !

"One of the worst experience ever"

We booked this place on because on Tripadvisory most of the people said it was very good. Let me tell you the honest truth about this place. The hotel supposedly 4 star, which is the most ridiculous overstatement. The only thing that is good in this hotel is the shower and that it is clean. The room is boiling hot, the airconditionon game does not work, if you want "fresh" air once you open the window the load street noise gets amplified in the room even on the 4th floor. The wifi is a joke, we tested the speed and it was 0.8mp/s. Basically nothing loads or if they do it takes a day. Oh and the bed is hard as a rock, so if you plan to come for a romantic and relaxing getaway to Paris do not even consider this place. The hotel is in an area that doesn't make you feel like you are in Paris. It is scary, sketchy and the streets are filthy. There are suspicious men standing and sitting on both side of the streets so for women it is recommended walking in groups or with a male companion. People constantly try to sell you something. There is not any decent places to eat around here. It is quite a walk to find anything acceptable. One positive, there is a metro stop basically next door for one to escape the area. Sacre Coure is overrated because when we were here it was so filthy: trash everywhere and human urine smell. I guess you can take a good photo of Paris from the top of the hill. Our star hotel rating for the is max. 2stars. If you are looking for a budget getaway in Paris there are much better deals than this hotel. In better areas with better facilities. We give this place a one out of 5 star because it is clean and the shower and sink is nice. Hope this review will keep the way too high ratings for this place closer to reality and help you to make the best decision.

Emmanuel V, Manager at BEST WESTERN Montmartre Sacre-Coeur, responded to this review
Dear guest, Let me start by apologize for not getting your satisfaction . I'm glad to hear that you appreciated the shower and cleanliness . Regarding the area, we are located in a cosmopolitan street, safe as there is many people down there all the time. Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur basilica are only 10 minutes on foot with many restaurants by there , Moulin rouge is few minutes by bus and Gare du nord is also pretty near that is why many guests like to come in our hotel. I regret that you didn't enjoy your stay and I do believe that you will find next time in Paris another area much more in connection with your expectations. Do not hesitate to contact me if I can give you any assistance next time you will stay in Paris, I'm Parisian and I know Paris pretty well. Regards, Emmanuel Veau xxxxxxxxxx

"A nice little hotel"

We really enjoyed our stay here- we had a cute little room and the staff were really friendly. I would have given it four stars but the breakfast was what I would have expected if it was breakfast included, not €12 (I think?) each- it was quite basic and hotel breakfasts are always my favourite part of the holiday so I was a bit disappointed. And to all the comments about it being in a 'dangerous' area- it's by the African quarter, if you're saying that's dangerous and frightening that's slightly racist and inward-looking... We had no problems (we were two women) and really enjoyed the bright colours and markets etc.

"Great Service despite No Air Conditioning"

I was traveling to France by myself for a two week vacation - starting and ending in Paris. I arranged to stay in this hotel and while the hotel itself was clean, safe, and easily accessible via the metro, there were a few glitches. One, when you come off the metro, during certain times of the day, you are literally dropped into an African marketplace. There is haggling, shouting, the shoving of products in your face. It's not for the faint of heart - especially if you are not an experienced traveler. Also, during the second part of my stay at the hotel, the air conditioner went out. Although the poor front desk person was getting phone call after phone call and complaint after complaint from everyone in the hotel, he didn't have the ability to fix it and because he was stuck at the front desk by himself for the rest of the night, didn't seem to have the ability to even go out and find someone to fix it. I felt very sorry for him. If you need a reasonably priced hotel, this is worth a look. Just know you may face some challenges, such as the ones described.

Great hotel, in an almost perfect location for us. Dinner in place du tertre most evenings and a short stroll home. The two rooms we had were small, but adequate for the time actually spent in them, and they were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was good, but again, the area to eat in was very small so was cramped when a few people were all in there together. Lovely staff, would recommend and would return if and when in Paris again.

"Great value hotel!"

Highly recommend this hotel--Easy access and best value--The rooms are very clean--I stayed in this hotel for 10 nights--The staff was very helpful and friendly--My only concern was the AC which did't work properly at times!

"Great Service"

The gentleman at Reception was very helpful when we walked in off the street during the noon hour in mid-August with an emergency. He took the time to be sympathetic and point us to resources to solve our emergency.

"Horrendous location , bad rooms, rude staff"

We recently stayed at this hotel for four nights. Unfortunately we paid in advance for our stay. A filthy and dangerous area filled with undesirable characters openly selling drugs near the metro station which forces one to walk past them accompanied by menacing looks as you progress down the street. The staff refused to move us to the other best Western monmatre hotel even though we had ascertained that there was space available. We were charged for double room sizes even though our room was the tiny regular size. Which we knew for certain as some others in our party had much more spacious rooms yet paid the same. This too was disregarded by the rude staff and no refund was offered. By far the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in in all my years of travelling.

"Not a good choice"

I chose this hotel in Paris because I wanted to be in the 18th Arondissement, close to Monmartre, the Basilica and Pigalle but I found that though the hotel was advertised to be a three star property, it lacked some basic amenities--they did not change the towels everyday, nor clean the rooms thoroughly each day. On coming back from a walk around the city we found that many waste papers and empty bottles were strewn around the room. There were problems with the air-conditioning, the supply of hot water and one day there was no water in the toilet! However, the manager and other staff at the reception tried their best to help out the guests by providing bottled water, giving prior notice etc. The breakfast at 10 Euro per person was a bit too high though there were many cheap eateries and a Carefour market next door. The location is good with very good Metro connections to most places of interest and the two main railway stations Paris East and Paris North with direct connection to airport. The area is dominated by coloured people but they never cause any hindrance to others. I would specially like to mention the helpfulness of Vincent who was at the reception when we checked in and also when we finally checked out with our stored baggage which the hotel kep free of cost when we traveled to Luxembourg for three days.

"Lovely hotel "

Stayed here with my boyfriend on a city break for his Birthday. The hotel itself is great, the rooms are spotless and exactly what you need for a base in the city. The area is a little rough in parts but we did not experience any problems at all. The hotel is conveniently situated close to the metro station which is extremely easy to navigate around Paris. The hotel staff are so friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Wouldn't hesitate to return again.

"Nice hotel, area not so nice"

Clean pleasant small room. Staff seemed pleasant and helpful. Area not so nice and a good 15min walk to Sacre Cour. Aircon seemed to not be very effective. All that said for around £60 in Paris at height of summer, not really so bad.

"Very nice"

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. It's situated near Port de Clignancourt, last stop of metro line 4. Comfortable rooms, kind staff. Metro station is not far from the hotel. Clean rooms. The hotel is situated in a quite street and you can find supermarkets and other shops very close.

"Good if you get the internet pricing"

I got a great price for this hotel online, through the BW website (about $100/night instead of the 300 euros advertised at the front desk). It's a 10-15 minutes walk from Sacre Coeur/Montmartre, so the location is great. The closest metro station (Chateau Rouge) is iffy, but you can't tell from the hotel, it's almost like two different worlds. At that station, people did help me carry my suitcase getting there and going back, but it's very crowded with street merchants and customers which can be a bit overwhelming. The room was very nice, clean, bright and although not very spacious, still comfortable. The bathroom was actually quite big. Breakfast was great; large spread of quality French food (pastries, bread, cheese) and also more international foods like eggs, yogurt and cereal.

"Nice hotel, friendly reception, nice buffet breakfast."

Nice hotel, stayed 3 nights, as others have said area a little shady, but we enjoyed it. Some lovely bars, handy for metro. Loads of North african eateries and a michelin star restaurant close by. Fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Air con failed once as did lift. But both repaired by the next time we came to use,

"Helpful Reception but poor location"

Reception was always helpful. Hotel and room clean. Breakfast good. But room rather small. Second night air-conditioning failed. Apology received but made for a very hot night. Location is not the best. Too many drunks on the street in front of hotel. This is really a 3 star hotel. Not 4.

"Paris Visit"

My wife and I visited Paris for a short break recently, staying at the Best Western Montmartre Sacre-Coeur hotel. It proved to be an excellent choice being close to everything we wished to explore in Montmartre, and within an easy Metro journey to Central Paris. It is very easy to reach from the CDG airport via RER and the Metro. This hotel is very good and friendly. We chose it because we wished to stay in Montmartre and we had enjoyed visits in Best Western hotels in Scotland.

"Be aware"

I will keep this simple, the area the hotel in is very rough and even the locals advised us not to go out at night. Drug use was observed around the area of the hotel. In addition to this the rooms are very small in the hotel. The staff are really friendly and helpful though.

Emmanuel V, Manager at BEST WESTERN Montmartre Sacre-Coeur, responded to this review
Dear Sir, Thank you for comment. Unfortunetly in Paris there are drug addicts every where in the street and even in the underground. It's a pity but it's not dangerous. Best regards

"Nice time in Paris"

We had 5 in our party with children and adults. Our time in this hotel was warm and cozy. Easy to get to the Metro, grocery store near by. Small lobby, but nice living room and excellent breakfast for $.

"Short break"

Stayed here for a long weekend. We were very pleased with the hotel - value for money, clean, comfortable, close to a metro and to Sacre Coeur. The area around the hotel is not very pleasant, but there are some nice restaurants near Sacre Coeur and the city is only a short ride away.

"Ok for price paid"

Not four star but comfortable enough. Rooms very small and very noisy being on a main street OK for those used to a large city. Breakfast good quality and comfortable room. Staff are very obliging and well mannered
