    « Friendly but unpolished »

This hotel is quietly situated in a residential neighbourhood and close to the town centre, indeed it strikes me as three residential homes forged together. Reception is friendly and adequate. Room #18 is a few steps up from the ground floor and sports a door that is a little tatty from the outside. The room has enough space but no comfortable chair. The shower is clumsy and cramped. It makes a right mess in the bathroom, so best brush your teeth, shave and wash before taking your shower ..

« Top Floor rooms to hot in August, low water pressure »

I was pleasantly surprised by the elegant building and cozy, traditional interior (though some of the rugs on the stairs are worn). Friendly staff, though I had to wait a bit for my tea at breakfast. No lift and no one offered to carry my suitcase upstairs. Biggest problem was that my room was piping hot, despite closed curtain. Fan helped a bit, as did opening window the small bit possible (I thanked God for the Bible, which could prop it open). Virtually no water pressure so the shower was a lame trickle. Wifi ok, bit on and off, but can carry a Skype call. I guess it's ok for 85 euro, but had expected more quality control for a Best Western.

« Nice dog friendly hotel »

Our room was very bright, big, clean and nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the central location, the wi - fi works fine. There is free, if limited, parking outside hotel.

« Short stay in Zwolle »

We spent four nights in total in the hotel Fidder. We were touring the Netherlands and Germany starting in Zwolle. We were expecting the usual Best Western, clean, comfortable, good breakfast and were pleasantly surprised to find this friendly family run hotel. The hotel is a street of preserved buildings in the Art Nouveau style. We liked it so much we decided to end our stay in back in Zwolle. I would recommend this hotel which is just a short walk from the train station and the town. Gill

    « Great short stay »

We enjoyed a wonderful euro trip this year, together with our beloved eight years old Shih Tzu and we opted for 1 night stay in Zwolle while traveling through the country. We picked this pet friendly hotel situated in a quiet residential neighbourhood, just a short walk to the city center. It was a perfect fit for our stay, the staff was great, the rooms are not very big but clean with a classic decor. The breakfast was good with plenty of stuff to choose from. This family owned hotel is made of some old converted homes so do not expect to find an elevator. If you get a room on the upper floors, be aware that the stairs are quite steep so I would not recommend the upper floors to old couples. All in all it was a good experience and I would definitely enjoy a longer stay in this classic hotel.

« Perfect Spot and Wonderful Staff »

Hotel Fidder was an absolute perfect fit for our stay in Zwolle. It was a short walk to the centre of the town, and was in a great location. Breakfast was great and the dinner menu was sensational. The staff were what made our stay so great - we were looked after so well, nothing was a problem and our room was perfect. We also made great use of our balcony which overlooked the most gorgeous courtyard. Amazing place to stay and we will definitely be back next time we're in Zwolle. Thanks to everyone who made our stay unforgettable.

    « Decent hotel »

A bit expensive for what is offers. Room are nice, but not great, bathroom adequate but also not splendid. Although this is a quiet neighbourhood there can be street noise in case there is some festivity. Make sure you have a garden side room in that case. Parking may also be difficult at that time, as people can park free here and then easily stroll into town. The hotel is a bit old, could do with some refurbishing.

    « Beautiful! »

This hotel is a couple of converted homes attached together. It is steeped in history and old Dutch decor. Rooms are very small.... the smallest we experienced while traveling. However, the ambience of the building, the bar, the games library, the dining nook and the outside back garden is brilliant. HUGE in fact. Many boxed garden plots where they grow their own herbs, classy seating in a gorgeous oasis you would never know was even there from looking at the outside! Food? OUTSTANDING. I would not recommend the upper floors for seniors tho. The stairs are steep and plentiful and pretty squishy. That said, they can accommodate whatever you need. We walked from the train station pulling our small wheeled suitcases. Took all of ten minutes. :)

    « Friendly, excellent stay »

Had a one night stay on business and found the hotel to be very friendly and the staff could not do enough for my colleague and I. There is a small bar with good selection of beer and of course every whiskey you can think off. We had a meal in the restaurant which was truly excellent and reasonable cost. My room was comfortable and old style with decoration and very high ceilings etc, it had a large single bed with an ensuite shower / toilet "sub room" built into the main room which was a little out of place but worked well. Overall just what we needed at a competitive price and a nice breakfast to start the next day off well.

    « Charming and Quirky »

This is a perfect alternative to one of the "big box" hotels in Zwolle. Family owned, great location, not expensive, what's not to like? We did not sample the whisky bar, but that collection is very extensive and would be a draw if you are so inclined. Zwolle is a charming city; when we visit again we will stay at the Fidder!

    « Live the past »

We stayed from 4 Sept 2015 for 7 nights .The hotel is set in an era when things were a slower and gentle pace . We stayed in room 27 which is on the first floor and met all our expectation . Comfortable bed , good sized bathroom with sauna . The staff were most helpful and friendly . There is plenty variety for breakfast . Be sure to place a reservation when dining at night to avoid missing out . If you do miss out there are plenty of places in Zwolle you can dine . The centre of Zwolle is just a10 minute walk away . The only criticism I have is constructive and would perhaps have been better if it was mentioned in their brochure or on their web site . The hotel does not have their own parking facility and this can cause problems from time to time . The hotel does not have a lift only VERY steep stairs which are very difficult to negotiate for anyone with a mobility issue . My wife who has had a complete knee replacement found it very hard and painful climbing these steep stairs . We were on a world tour and stayed in a lot of hotels all had a heated plate facility so you are putting a warm breakfast on a very cold plate as this somewhat spoils an otherwise nice warm breakfast . This hotel does not posses a plate warming facility . I would advice them to invest in one .

    « Best Restaurant »

Excellent food and lodging. 4 poster beds in an old time atmosphere. Great garden restaurant with the best nouveau cusine with good portions. Good wine selection as well as beer selection. The staff all speak several languages.

    « Faded glory »

On the warmest day of the last 50 years in the Netherlands we staid at Hotel Fidder. Thank goodness we had a room at the back of the building, so the room was not that warm as the rooms in the front. No air conditioning was available. The rooms are not in the best condition, they smell musty. The woodwork need a re-paint. There was a minibar in the room, normally it is a fridge, this was just a wooden box. On a day like this you would to have a cold drink. Breakfast was good and the staff was very friendly.

    « Enjoyed my stay »

During a business trip i've stayed in this vintage hotel. I absolutely loved the vintage/ classic style! It was winter and the fireplace was on. I enjoyed a nice glass of red in front of the fireplace. Very cozy and warm. The rooms where also very cozy and vintage decorated! I have enjoyed my stay here very much and i would go back once but this time for leisure to enjoy the hotel facilities and surroundings.

« Old house, good food, professional personnel, and awesome whisky bar »

Stayed there for three nights, was visiting a friend in town, so it wasn't a long stay. First of all, the house itself is old, for good and worse. Good: it looks romantic, nice old rustic furniture, nice fireplace, quaint rooms, has personality, no rooms alike. Bad: furniture is really used, flaking paint, creaky steep stairs, saw one mouse running around, windows are a pain to open/close and doesn't stop wind from getting through. Don't get me wrong, the place wasn't lacking in anything. Nice bathroom, good bed, plenty of towels, and it felt clean. But it was also old and used. Breakfast buffet was one of the best I've tried, lots of diverse stuff to choose between. Coffee ... well, if you've ever been to The Netherlands before you know the coffee is crap, no other way of saying it. But this is a problem with The Netherlands in general and NOT the hotel! Tea was perfectly ok though. :) But the big selling point for me, was the whisky bar with a _very_ large extensive selection, of both OB bottlings and a lot of independent bottlings as well. You could spend hours (and a lot of €) there. All in all, recommended IF you don't mind that the place is old. :) If not, stay away.
