    « Such a disappointment »

Oh Dear, We arrived at the Alpen Resort Hotel full of enthusiasm to find the frontage blocked by builders screens and our room not ready at 2 pm. No matter, we liked the hotel on inspection and renewed our enthusiasm. Oh Dear, we returned from ski-ing the following afternoon to find the room had still not been cleaned and it was 4 pm and also the tap on the wash hand basin was not working. At breakfast we were treated to a relay-row in the kitchen with staff members shouting at each other as they returned with empty plates and emerged with thunder struck faces, only to return with a louder argument. Oh dear, I went to ask reception to help me book a hair appointment, and was met with reluctance, objections and finally, blood boiling rudeness. I sorted it myself. By now, access and egress to the building was via a tiny strip of firm ground, only 100mm wide at one point. The rest of the drive was full of swinging diggers and builders shouting to each other. They started work at 7.30 am and it was impossible to sit on the balcony with coffee and book. Oh dear, I asked for the manager to lodge our complaints and eventually ( I had to ask for him a second time) a charming man Philip Raber who exhibited a wide range of disinterest via his smiles and smug posture. We pointed out that he had lost control of his cleaning staff, his breakfast staff and his reception staff. We also pointed out that had we known about the building works we would definitely have stayed somewhere else, he smiled and offered us a drink at the bar. A deeply unpleasant hotel but at £200 a night in Zermatt I guess we should have expected that.

    « Fish »

One night whistle stop stay. Last minute rate was very cheap ? Was in a separate building however and my room (701) stank of fish, even though I left the door open all night. ? Also in the middle of a building site ?. Location good for the station ?.

    « INCREDIBLE!! »

We stayed here a couple of years ago. It was great from the get go from check in through to the end. The room was perfect but the view from our balcony was amazing. Nothing better than winding down at the end of the day with a coffee and a view of the Matterhorn. Location was nice and central. Food was great. Happy to stay here again.

« Hotel overbooked ? book Christiania instead. »

So we arrived at the Best Western Plus (more like Minus) after a horrible day of a cancelled Glacier Express from St Moritz due to avalanche and then running to catch trains from Zurich and Visp to finally make it to Zermatt by 6 p.m. only to be told by Sarai at reception that ?there was a problem with a room? so we couldn't stay. I booked this hotel over a month ago after obviously not careful enough research. She then sent us to another hotel without so much as an apology or explanation, but clearly they had overbooked, as others on here have said they tend to do. No manager apology, nothing. Now, if this was an innocent mistake, which is assuming a lot, I would at the very least expect some kind of voucher ? money off dinner somewhere, something. Not even a ?we're sorry.? Sarai acted as if she was offering us a service when in fact she was telling us we couldn't stay where we had booked and been confirmed with a reservation. I expected a lot better of Best Western but clearly in Switzerland, that was a mistake. And to the management, please don't reply with a ?thanks for staying with us, glad you enjoyed our hotel? response without even reading this, as I've seen you do to others who were shunted elsewhere. To anyone considering this hotel, go to the Christiania Mountain Spa instead! This is where we were sent ? and the one good thing Best Western did. This hotel is a thousand times nicer, particularly as the receptionists are so friendly and welcoming and helpful, unlike at the Best Western. Also, after we arrived at our new hotel, I messaged Sarai to ask if she could at least book us dinner at the Best Western and she ignored my message. So. There's that, too. Go to the Christiania! The pool is huge, the hotel is massive, the breakfast and bar fabulous, the facilities top-notch, and it's much closer to town. Don't waste your time on the Best Western who might decide you're the ones to lose the overbooking lottery.

« Good choice when you will visit at Zermatt »

It was nice hotel in Zermatt. The hotel is located from train station only 5-7 minutes and also nearby convenience shop. I went with my boyfriend only 2 persons and was got upgraded to Family Room. Room is nice. Breakfast was great

    « Very nice »

Very nice hotel, we asked for a room in a high floor with a balcony and view and got a big room on the 4 floor with a gallery for the kids. The gallery is not suited for the elderly due to the narrow ladder. The room and bathroom is very comfortable and spacious, sometimes they forget to renew the towels, soap, toilet paper etc but are always happy to do it after a reminder. The location is quiet and a little remote from the main restaurants and shops area but is very close to the sunega lift and train station. The restaurant is nice, we preferred to have dinner at the bar, some items on the menu are better than others, very good pizzas, kids menu is excellent for families. The children also loved the big swimming pool and jacuzzi, they are located in the basement so might be claustrophobic for some but for the children it was perfect after a long day at the slopes. If you get a good deal the hotel is very recommended.

« Lovely place for non skiers »

The hotel was very clean and the food at breakfast and dinner was really nice. The staff were very helpful and attentive with special mention to Barbara and lada. Plenty of help from reception staff when needed. Great location for shops and restaurants and great free shuttle bus service around the resort. A very pretty place but expensive. A perfect holiday for the skier and non skier alike. The hotel was very comfortable with a great view of the Matterhorn from our balcony. Would definitely go back when we can afford it.

« Great hotel, but location not so great »

Pros: - Excellent facilities - Excellent room - Excellent breakfast - Has just about everything you could ever want - perfect for families Cons: - Location (it's a bit far from the town center compared to other hotels in the area) - Sometimes rude front-desk staff. Would only do the minimum for guests. - Some parts of the hotel are under construction, so the noise was bothersome. - Expensive!

« Fantastic experience in a amazing location »

Zermatt is a little paradise on earth. For that reason, it can get very costly. To find a place that reflects the experience of Zermatt without breaking the bank is not easy. That is why the Alpen Resort was a surprising delight. The room we had was very spacious, comfortable, and very bright. The hotel has all the amenities you could with for - sports center, spa, a great pool, games area, and even an indoor badmington net! The service was excellent and helped with all questions we had. Lastly, the bar area and restaurant are excellent. The breakfast spread is wonderful, and the evening dinner was great every time. We would highly recommend the Alpen Resort Hotel.

    « View of Matterhorn »

We specifically booked this hotel for a night's stay just o to catch the Matterhorn at sunrise from the balcony. It did not disappoint. The room was comfortable and clean, and breakfast was great too. Hope to spend more time in Zermatt in future.

« Cozy Alpine estate with terible hygiene and bad food. »

Place itself is quite cozy, nicely located close to train and bus station and minutes walk from a central village area. Reception staff was pleasant and helpful. Ski rum is big and with lockers for skis. However, hygiene in the restaurant, and room cleaning was really bad. So bad that many people got food poisoning. Plates and cutlery was not washed properly, served food was not fresh and very often not made in the restaurant (?? food), restaurant staff was bad and disorganized. Cups and glasses in the room were not washed with a detergent, just with a splash of water. It looked like floors we never vacuum cleaned...

« Perfect hotel for us. »

Stayed here for our ski holiday. Great location. Close to the the grocery store for any supplies that you may need for snacks or lunch on the mountain. Just off the main street but far enough away to avoid the crowds. And about 50m (less than 5 min walk in ski gear) to the nearest bus stops which takes you to all the ski lifts. The ski lockers are very secure and you can get to them from within the hotel so don't need to wear outdoor shoes to get there. The size of our room was large so we had plenty of room to spread out our gear and lots of hanging space. Room safe as well. No problems with noise at night time. TV had more channels than anyone could wish for. Made use of the pool in the morning when everyone else seemed to be skiing. Beautiful view of the Matterhorn (if the weather is clear !). For us it was a perfect hotel. Complimentary shuttle to and from the station, although you could walk, but why would you when it's free.

« Good value for money »

For sure the location is not the worst possible. Walking distance to the city centre, walking distance to the Sunnega Cable station. Rooms are fair, not a variety of pillows. Internet is working properly and is free. Breakfast is at a medium level, the level of service is quite low. You have to wait a long time after a coffee or an extra egg. Having in mind the service in restaurant you have other alternatives to eat in the city centre.

« Fantastic base for ski trip to Zermatt »

Just returned from a ski trip with three friends (And will be back next year!) Staff were brilliant (especially the manager), very attentive and provided great advice on the ski area. Great location, only a short walk from ski hire shop, bus stop (for Matterhorn Express Lift) and Sunnegga funicular easily walk-able, even in ski boots. Hotel facilities were just right. Boot room is great. Nice pool and hot tub, although we spent most of our time on the slopes. Highly recommended.

« Great Stay, Would Love to Return »

We recently spent a few nights in Zermatt as part of our honeymoon, and loved our time at the Best Western Plus Alpen Resort. The trip was rather eventful, and the hotel rolled with the punches as best as they could. The staff was helpful with everything we needed. When we checked in we also purchased our ski passes, which was very convenient. We had booked through the website, but the hotel forgot to put the complimentary prosecco in our room. They were very apologetic and the next day we came back to a bottle of prosecco chilling on the table. The room itself was huge, which was even more pronounced for us since we had previously been in Paris and Lyon. I'm sure if it wasn't cloudy the whole time that the view of the Matterhorn would have been beautiful as well. One thing that I didn't know was that they provide turn down service at this hotel. It was very nice to come back to that one evening, although a bit embarrassing as I'd left clothes strewn around the room! The pool area was very relaxing, although busy at times. Our last day was the most eventful one. We were there during the heavy snow, and had previously planned to take the Glacier Express out and stay the following night in St. Moritz. Mother Nature had other plans. We had informed the front desk staff about our Glacier Express plans the night before, so they notified us about the changes. We woke up to no power all throughout Zermatt, but the hotel made breakfast as usual and we all ate by candlelight. Once the power was restored in the town we checked out, but were in limbo as the trains still weren't running. The Best Western Plus Alpen Resort was one of the first hotels to start running people to the heliport, where we were able to board a helicopter at a discount to leave Zermatt. Their determination and devotion to customers was unparalleled on that day, and I won't forget it. I wish I had taken down everyone's name that helped us, it was a stressful day for all but they made it seem like everything was fine! I hope to go back to Zermatt someday, especially with a family, this hotel would be a great place to bring one.

« One Night in Zermatt »

We needed one night accomodation in Zermatt after taking the Glacier Express from St Moritz to Zermatt (a full day). We found the Alpen Resort Hotel on the Internet and booked one night there. We didn't know Zermatt so also were not sure about convience to train station etc. In summary we were more than happy with our choice. It's a 10 minute (slow) walk from the station. The only small issue we had was that it was slightly difficult to find given some nearby building works. Once inside the lobby was lovely and warm and recep was very helpful. Check in process was efficient. However the room assigned (family room) was the one directly above the spa and there was a strong "spa" smell in the room (chlorine?). It was too much and one of our children has some nose allergies. So we went back to recep. No dramas, luckily another room found which was superb. Room with a view in fact. Very happy. Kids happy. In the evening we took the 10 minute stroll back into the centre of Zermatt to experience some nightlife including pizza and crepes! So hotel is very convenient and you have the added advantage of a light walk home after dinner! In the morning we walked with our bags to the train station. Really very close if you are travelling light (or bags on wheels).

    « Couldn't fault a thing »

We stayed here over NYE, having travelled to Zermatt annually for 6-7 years, it was a last minute plan this year due to heavy snow for once so early, and we booked one of their new apartments in a cute renovated little building, a couple of doors down. I really enjoyed the friendly service, breakfast, modern finishings. We had a problem in the room with a heater, and an extra one was bought over within 15 minutes. Coffee machine, generous number of pods, good wifi.. No real complaints! Room was on the smaller side for a studio apartment with a kitchen - but this was reflected by the comparatively lower pricing (as is the fact there's no view). Would have been great if the renovation work had been completed totally - something to ask when you book (only for the heater to be installed in the bathroom - got a bit cold there). Also - no bowls in the kitchen - hopefully something easy to fix :) I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly atmosphere presented by a chain brand hotel - and would highly recommend a stay there to anyone.

« Big hotel service in a boutique setting »

We stayed as a large family in two rooms at the beginning of the year. We found the staff to be attentive and efficient, and the rooms were very large by European standards, with plenty of room for the double bed, sitting area, writing desk, bathroom and changing area. The pools were a bonus, especially given the terrible weather which prevented us from skiing until the day of our departure. We had a casual dinner in the hotel's restaurant, which is cosy, and the buffet breakfasts were well catered. The hotel is not in the centre of Zermatt, but it's not far to walk to get to the bars and restaurants that are so much a part of the nightlife of the town. The Alpen Resort is located close to the railway station and Gornergratbahn. The free shuttle to and from the railway station was a nice bonus, saving us the short walk with skis and luggage. In summary -- this is a great place to stay in Zermatt; a chain hotel with absolutely none of the downsides one would expect of a faceless, multinational chain!

« Nice midweek in a friendly hotel »

We have booked a room for three persons and within the spacy room there was a separate room for a single bed, bathroom was modern with a bath and a great shower. The welness is quite complete : nice swimming pool, sauna, infra red cabine, salt water bath. And not a lot of persons using it. We took the half pension formula and it was OK, as well for the breakfast as for the dinner. Changes were easily done. Staff is friendly and always willing to help

    « Quaint and wonderful! »

We enjoyed a two night stay just after Christmas. Some of our favorite parts of the stay were the cozy atmosphere, the extremely friendly staff, and the pool/soaking tubs were great after a day on the mountain! The view of the Matterhorn and Zermatt from the room was incredible too. The room we had was spacious and very comfortable. The bedding and linens were nice and the bathroom was newly updated and clean. The hotel feels on the edge of town as far as distance goes, but actually was quite close to one of the main ski lifts, so when you look on a map it seems removed but Zermatt is tiny and all of it was easily walkable even with two young kids in the snow. We also used the electric taxis a couple times which was convenient. To the furthest ski lift. We highly recommend the Best Western Alpen Resort during your stay in Zermatt!

« SPA in this Hotel is dated 1985, not **** stars worthy »

I was many times in Zermatt for my ski vacation. I tried many different 4 and 5 star hotels. One of the key features which is very important for me during a ski vacation is to enjoy the SPA when returning from the mountain. The SPA in this hotel is very outdated. I am 1.90M tall, when standing in the pool, the space above my head was just 30CM, no daylight and the quality of the water in the wirlpools were very very bad. (lot's of Chloric!) The pictures on the booking website don't match the reality. Rooms, were ok, not the best I've seen, but can't complain about them. Every morning the coffee machine was broken, therefore I could never get any proper coffee. This Hotel should not be rated at 4 stars. My advise to the hotel. Update the SPA from A-Z, buy a proper coffee machine, let people have fresh (not packed) juices in the morning in order to be proud on the 4 star rating.

    « Excellent stay »

Very cozy environment. Clean and spacious room facing Matterhorn. Highly recommend it. Also very good breakfast! We love our stay and hope we could stay longer here. Not too far away from train station yet it is quiet at night which is a plus.

    « Pleasant Surprise! »

When I initially booked this hotel for my family of four, I was not sure what to expect as there were mixed reviews, but after three wonderful nights here I grew to absolutely love the hotel! The staff is friendly and helpful, and rooms are simple (a little dated) but were clean. The rooms also have gorgeous views of the Matterhorn, which is a big plus. The location is good, as it was walking distance from the main town area and train station. Overall, great hotel with awesome views of the Matterhorn!

« Excellent Hotel and Great View »

This hotel has some excellent rooms with a great view. Very comfortable stay and close to zermatt rail station. Service was as expected and no worries what so ever during the check in and check out. We were upgraded after 1 day of stay which was very much appreciated.

« Excellent view, free upgrade, wonderful food selection! »

My sister and i booked a budget room but we were upgraded (FOR FREE) to a double room with a wonderful view of the matterhorn ?? the room area was more than sufficient! We loved it! Breakfast selection was very generous and tasty ?????? It made our stay im zermatt very memorable ??

« Excellent property with superb view & location »

We were intially not looking at this property while booking our stay but luckily we happened to see the property & had no hesitation to go ahead & book it. More than anything the Brand Best Western was a major factor in finalising the hotel as I have travelled around the world & stayed with them - No complaints ever. This time I was with Friends & Family. Overall the stay was comfortable & the breakfast very nice. If anything I think the property managers need to look at the design of the Bath Tub & space - Extremely small & uncomfortable. Add to that the water logging in the tub.

    « Stay in Zermatt »

I arrived in Zermatt and asked a taxi driver where is the Best Western and he pointed down the valley and I asked if it was walkable as I had luggage and a carry on bag. He said its about 10 minutes away. I decided to walk, as I heard it was expensive for a taxi for a few blocks walk. It was pretty close. There is construction going on near the hotel, so keep your eyes peeled for a sign and as soon as you see it, turn and follow the arrow. The hotels all look mostly similar. About 5 or 6 stories tall and looks like wooden cabins. Once inside, the reception area is small but cozy. The person checking in was friendly and pleasant. I tried to check in an hour early and I was able to get checked in. They accept swiss francs as well as credit cards, visa,mc, amex. The lift is small but works. My room was the top one located a stairwell up from the 4th floor. The rooms are average size, not too small but perfect. Theres a modern look to it. Flat screen tv, couch, chair, table, balcony with a view of the matterhorn, in room safe, bathroom and shower in one room, telephone, and closet. The lights are controlled by leaving your key with the chip facing you in a little key holder by the door. They have a pool and also a salt water pool below ground level, and also a sauna, massage, gym and tanning room also. After an evening walk around town, I ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and had fondue with potato and ice cream for dessert. At check in, they give you a 10percent coupon for dining in the restaurant, use it! The water was 3 chf the ice cream 10.95 chf and fondue about 22 chf. About $40 dollars for a small dinner for one person. But there is breakfast included and that saves you money overall during your stay. There is also a small grocery store available just a few minutes away that closes at 8pm. The bed is firm and comfortable and the room is temperature controlled. The bedding is clean and soft. The only downside is that there is no clock in the room. The receptionists who were at the desk at check in and later in the night were very helpful as far as where to go and what to do for my tour trips. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family. Its fairly close to town center and its reasonable priced.

« Alpen Resort Hotel Zermatt »

My wife and I stayed for a week at the Alpen resort hotel for our wedding anniversary in early October 2017, the reception staff were very friendly and helpful and we were allocated a Matterhorn facing room on the first floor and were amazed at how large the room was, it was spotlessly clean, had a large balcony and a great view of the Matterhorn itself,on the first morning I notified reception of a minor problem with the shower head in the bathroom, within fifteen minutes the problem with the shower had been rectified, excellent service. The hotel was very welcoming and all staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very good and plentiful, we decided to have the evening meals in the hotel and took advantage of their offer of booking for the week and obtaining a discount, we were so glad we did as the food was as good as you would get at hotels costing considerably more than this. The hotels owner spent time with all her guests without being intrusive and helped reinforce the family friendly style of hoteliers. I would definitely without question stay at the Alpen resort again and would have no hesitation in recommending other travellers to do the same, a definite 5 stars from us Graham from the UK

    « Lovely 1night stay »

We had a lovely stay in this hotel. We booked a room with Matterhorn view and waouhh! What a view! There are some constructions going on around the hotel but you don t hear anything from the room or anywhere in the building. Rooms are lovely, breakfast as well, the Spa is so great; big swimming pool, jacuzzi, salty pool, fitness, sauna, hammam. The only négatif point I have to say(as a receptionist) it s the reception team, they were not welcoming or smiley at all, it looks like you are disturbing them more than anything. The situation of the hotel is great, near train station, walking distance to shopping street. A place to recommend.

« Really nice and affordable »

of course Zermatt is an expensive place, but you won't find a better price unless you stay at the Hostel. I arrived late afyer the normal check-in time and the staff went out of their way to contact me and accomodate me for my arrival. Very friendly girl at the desk, and the room was really nice, cozy, and clean. Had a great view of the Matterhorn kn top of it, for half the price of some other equivalent hotels in town. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed for 3nights. Location: Hotel was 10min walk from Zermatt train station. Denzer Supermarket was less than 5min walk from hotel. It's located at the quieter side of Zermatt (north), away from 'downtown' Zermatt (south), but it's along the same main road. You dont have to cross the bridge. Room: Exceptional! We got upgraded to a Family Suite at Level 4, thanks to the nice receptionist and team. (Pardon me, i forgot the name.) The balcony has the full view of Matterhorn. Toilet also has the full view of the majestic giant. Breakfast: Decent spread of choices. Bacon, eggs, soup, rice, juices, wine, cheese, bread, cereal, milk, etc. Restaurant was cozy with soft lights. Amenities: Heated pool, sauna were available but we didnt bring our slippers hence didnt get to try. Verdict: Highly recommended!!!

    « Wow just wow - what a view ! »

Zermatt is a place out of a dream - it is so picturesque. We stayed at Best Western Alpenresort during our time in Zermatt & could not have wished for more. Located a short stroll from the train station it was easy to find. The room was very spacious. The view from our balcony of the Mattahorn was spectacular. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The facilities were top quality. The pool, spa & sauna are luxurious. Just when we thought it could not get any better we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the ski lodge style setting restaurant. This stay provided a special experience. We can't wait to return to enjoy some more luxury. Thank you to the amazing team for a great stay.

    « Cracking views »

We had a fabulous room at the top of the hotel overlooking the mountains. Great view to wake up to. The rooms was very nicely furnished and comfortable. The hospitality of the staff was excellent and the waiter in the restaurant was excellent (I think his name was Lada) The restaurant served excellent food at we thought were very reasonable prices. The location of the hotel is slightly out of the village centre and very quiet. Well managed!!

« Good place to stay »

The hotel is near the Main Street and close to the train station. The hotel has an alpine decor inside and outside. The breakfast was very good with a large selection. All staff were very helpful showing us where to go in town.

    « A good average standard hotel »

Rooms were good; staff helpful. Breakfast was the same for the 3 days we were there..adequate but entirely unimaginative! Hotel location is near enough to the train station, but not all rooms have a good view.

    « Comfortable, convenient hotel »

Hotel is close to the station, easy walking distance to the centre of town, but far enough away to be quiet. Staff were extremely helpful in making arrangements for us to get the first lift up to Klein Matterhorn for a climbing trip, and let us leave some luggage in their store to collect later.

    « Fantastic Family Room »

We stayed for one night in their family suite. The suite had two separate rooms with a common living room, 1.5 bathrooms, big patio and a closet. The swimming pool, spa, sauna were right below our room which made it very convenient. The hotel has the electric shuttle to ferry you to and from the train station. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We parked our car at Tasch train station and rode the train to Zermatt. Internet was free. Breakfast was excellent with a wide spread of options. They served a vegetarian soup that morning which was delicious. Zermatt is very walk-able so don't worry about distances. Check-in and check-out were smooth. Check the webcams/weather before you plan your trip. The only con I can think of are the pillows, which were too thin.

« Room with a view of Matterhorn »

Only electric vehicles are permitted in Zermatt and so we were picked up a few kilometres short of the hotel by hotel staff who struck me as efficient and courteous. I must say this remained true for the entire duration of our visit. The property itself is a proper resort and not a stand alone structure, and quite beautiful, built in traditional architecture and with manicured lawns and blooming flower-beds, some even hanging from balconies. The most important part, our room, was also the best part about the hotel. It was a duplex, very spacious, tastefully done up, furnished with comfortable furniture and beds and equipped with modern ergonomic fixtures, and a large balcony with an amazing view of the Matterhorn. Breakfast had '3 minute and 5 minute' eggs, and a wide selection of cheeses and cold cuts. We had a wonderful experience staying at the hotel and it deserves nothing short of an excellent rating. PS. I hope the management posts some good pictures (the current ones do not do justice) but I guess they do not need to.

« Spa pool extra special, great breakfast »

The spa was really nice with all the jets areas in the pool. Balcony rooms have views of the mountains. The hotel is quiet, comfy with a charmingly rustic restaurant. Breakfast was great hot crispy Bacon and baked beans and eggs as well as all the continental affair. Not much fresh fruit. The porter Paulo, was very jolly and extremely helpful. Nice decor in the bathroom. A very refreshing stay. Free electro wagon transfer to and from train station. To the left of station away from main centre so more space quiet, close to walk to everything.

« Excellent Views of the Matterhorn »

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Alpen Resort Zermatt for two nights beginning on 8/7/17. We had a nice clean fairly large room with an updated bathroom. The room had no A/C and was hot the first night when it was warm outside. Overall, a nice place to stay.

« Alround great place to stay »

My wife and I spent last week in the Alpen Resort Hotel, and had a brilliant stay in the hotel/Zermatt. The hotel is really good, excellent standards in all public and private rooms. We were supported by really warm, friendly and welcoming staff from the minute we checked in until we very sadly checked out yesterday morning. The bedroom was very clean, well fitted out with everything we needed, very comfortable bed and a great view of the Matterhorn from our private balcony. Being quite tall and well built, my only minor complaint was that the shower over the bath was a bit awkward to get into and quite small. The food was good, well presented and good quality. If we didn't like any of the courses it was no problem finding an alternative. Special thanks to Michelle (who seems to work 24 hours every day!), and the very friendly, positive, enthusiastic and really lovely Greek girl (sorry, I can't remember her name) who made us feel very welcome. Zermatt's a really beautiful location for a holiday. We had a terrific time, made better by the Alpen Resort Hotel. Thank you.

« A surprise for the third wheel »

In a place like Zermatt where you are spoilt for choices when it comes to hotels, this one turned out to be a great choice, particularly for third wheels like me. I was travelling with my parents as part of a group tour, so sadly, did not have the luxury of choosing hotels. But when I entered the room allotted to us in this hotel, I jumped with excitement. There was a tiny bedroom as part of my parents' room for me. For someone who had to make do with sofa beds or extra beds, this was amazing. The main room also had a clear view of the Matterhorn and my tiny room had another beautiful view of the town. I personally loved it and highly recommend to people with kids. I also found out that there were other rooms with beds in the attic. All in all, a great option.

    « Excellent view! »

The room was very clean and I slept very well in the very comfortable bed. The breakfast was very nice with gluten-free food on request. I loved looking out from the balcony and seeing the Matterhorn. I highly recommend this hotel.

« Great views and rooms! »

First thing - turn LEFT when walking out of train station. Not far to walk if you head in correct direction. Wonderful hotel in a quiet area yet close to everything. Bus stop to take you for free to the end of town to catch tram just 2 min walk away. Spacious rooms and bathrooms all with views facing Matterhorn. Try to get on a high floor. We visited in summer but wouldn't hesitate to book this during ski season. Breakfast very good and excellent variety.

« Great room with Matterhorn view »

Recently returned for a three week rail tour of Switzerland with a friend, and without doubt this was the best bedroom we stayed in. It was almost a suite, and the small spare bedroom was great as I am a snorer! The highlight though was the balcony as we had a Matterhorn view. Huge choice at breakfast, and large garden and lounge areas. One thing tarnished our opinion of the place ever so slightly. We were given a 10 per cent discount voucher for the restaurant which, given Swiss prices generally, we decided to use one evening. The meal we had was fine, but the waitress seemed to treat us as second class citizens once she saw the voucher. Please, Alpen Resort, either welcome the voucher in the restaurant or don't bother issuing it.

    « Nice Digs »

this hotel is way off the beaten path but nestled near a lot of other properties. its a walk to town. the rooms we had were on the ground floor and they have a nice sized patio to sit out and have a drink while looking up and around the mountains. very rustic hotel. clean, comfortable.

    « Good »

Very nice resort in most beautiful places ie zermat resort is ideally located nearest to train station restaurant is good but serves average food staff at reception was bit arrogant but overall nice they got some excellent indoor swimming pool massage room and quite nicely made with mix of Morden construction they have an excellent ski facilities room which we got in main building and on top floor excellent experience and view from room nicely done interiors of room overall very nice experience

    « Wonderful Hotel »

WE spent 2 nights here and enjoyed the hotel. We had a great view of the Matterhorn from our room and a lovely balcony with table and chairs. No AC but we just opened our door to the balcony, our room door and the window across from our room and got great ventilation. Fortunately we were on a bus trip and all of the people on our floor were the other women we were traveling with. The breakfasts were wonderful and the people working at the hotel were very nice and helpful. I would recommend this hotel if you are coming to Zermatt.

« Convenient base to enjoy Zermatt and the amazing views of the Matterhorn. »

The hotel is just over five minutes walk (down a gentle sloping road) from the station. Once you pass the supermarket located on the left hand side of the road keep an eye out for the sign to the hotel which is on the right hand side of said road, Once you spot this you can't go wrong as the hotel building will also now be visible off the road to your right.. The construct is very traditional Swiss chalet with lots of fine wood decor in the public areas. The staff were super friendly and helpful at Reception as were staff in the restaurant where Michaela earned big, big, appreciation points for understanding and accommodating the meal selections for my better half's dietary intolerances. Thanks to her diligence (and that of Lena who was dealing with our table on the first night of our stay) we enjoyed two relaxing evening meals. The breakfast buffet selections were also well worth tucking into with plenty of variety. We had gone for the "Matterhorn View" level of room and it lived up to the description. The weather played its part in the stay experience by providing clear clue skies allowing us to savour this spectacular mountain view at various times of day during our stay and first thing in the morning when it was definitely a fabulous way to start a vacation day. The room itself was very spacious, the beds comfortable and all the little extras as per the descriptions on the hotel's website. The one warning I would give is be aware of the sloping walls on the interior of one side of the room (including the bathroom area) which you will probably hit your head on at least once if you tend to be as clumsy as I am! The hotel provides free wi-fi but in our top floor room at the edge corner of the building I struggled to get a signal. Staff at reception tried to assist and were able to connect my laptop to the signal when it was down in the foyer area and that was the option I used for the minimal use I needed to make during our stay to research train times with. Normally this hotel would have earned the full five stars from me but for a problem with the securing bracket for the shower head in the bathroom which we discovered on the first morning of our stay. It was a very large and heavy shower head and had obviously proved too much for the wall mounting support bracket and was lying in the tray at bath level. We reported it to reception when we went out after breakfast and were assured maintenance would rectify it. Sadly they didn't and on the second morning we again had to resort to juggling of soaping while at the same holding a large loose shower head and trying to direct the spraying water. We reported the problem again at reception on checking out and they were surprised maintenance hadn't been done as they had requested it. I know these things happen but even a note of apology that it had not been possible to rectify the fault when we got back after our first day's explorations would have been appreciated and understood.

« Nice hotel with great views »

Quaint and aged, but pleasant old world charm with timber throughout. We had a good size room with a great view of the Matterhorn. The bed was a little lumpy but comfortable. We had a balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The refurbished bathroom was nice. Reception was friendly. Breakfast was okay. We dined in at night and found the food was very poor for the price and the woman tried to overcharge us twice.

    « All star stay »

We stayed this property for one night during our trip to Zermatt/Matterhorn. All I can say is that this hotel is superb from check-in to check-out. The property is around 10min walk from the train station but there is a free shuttle service from the hotel, which came in handy with the luggage. Checkin was fast and the counter staff was friendly and efficient. Our room was on 3rd floor. Room was spacious but cosy. There was a smaller room with bunk bed for our kids, which they liked a lot. The view from the balcony was awesome, there was unobstructed view of Matterhorn. The hotel has indoor heated swimming pool and gym. The breakfast was included in our room booking and we enjoyed it very much. We would definitely like to return to this property if we visit Zermatt again

    « Very good hotel »

Excellent hotel Great service Fantastic rooms Loved the balcony view Rooms are big and bathroom was very clean Great wifi connection Waiting for breakfast in the morning Would recommend this hotel to friends

« Very nice choice in Zermatt village »

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel. 1. Room. We booked a panorama room which is spacious, with view of Matterhorn. It's the largest room we stayed during our Swiss trip. All room facilities are well maintained. Room rate is very reasonable. 2. Food. Breakfast is nice with good variety and quality. We also booked set-menu dinner. It is a 5-course dinner, very delicious and good value for money. They change menu everyday so that you have a chance to try different good. 3. Location. The hotel is 3-minute walk to train station and 2-minute walk to green line shuttle bus. It's within short walking distance to everywhere, yet it's in a quiet edge of the village, without crowd and traffic. 4. Hotel facility. This hotel has an indoor swimming pool, steam room, Sauna facilities. In cloudy weather, it's nice to use these facilities. 5. Parking. We came with our car. They offer free parking in their sister hotel in Tasch and then we took shuttle train from Tasch to Zermatt. Because Zermatt is a car-free village. Cars go inside of Zermatt need to have a permit. In summary, it's a good place to stay. Next time we come to Zermatt, we'll stay here again.

« Unpretentious but very comfortable »

Our room had a direct view of The Matterhorn and we were able to view it through different stages including bright early morning light The hotel itself has most mod cons to ensure a comfortable stay but the breakfast was somewhat disappointing. This was not helped by having just one very hard working girl look after the entire large dining room. This is the only slightly negative comment we have about an otherwise comfortable and enjoyable stay

    « So much space! »

Glad we chose to come here. The rooms are very comfortable, fresh clean and simple elegant decor. They were kind enough to upgrade us to a larger room that had been available for our family of 4, which had a big bathroom on a 2nd floor. It's not a far walk from the train station, and they also offer free shuttle service to there. The staff was helpful and kind, and the breakfast had a lot of variety. It was a comfortable stay, we would have happily stayed longer here.

    « Enjoyable stay »

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in May. Our room was well appointed although a little dated but had a flat screen tv and was very roomy. We had a lovely view of the Matterhorn from our balcony and we spent many hours there watching the sunset. The only annoying thing was that there was someone smoking a cigar on the next balcony to us. The shower was absolutely the worst in that barely any water came out of it and was luke warm both days. The breakfast area was very quaint and breakfast was beautifully laid out. Lovely fresh breads and ham. Staff were friendly enough but not as much as most hotels we stayed in. It was easy to call from the station for them to pick us up and also easy drop off again when we left. Location was great. You could walk to everything easily and there was a bottle shop and supermarket nearby that closed at 8pm. Would recommend hotel.

    « Horrible service »

We have travelled the world but not seen this kind of horrible behaviour like the one by Micaela . She was inattentive and rude as well. She forces other guests to write good reviews about her when she has arguments with others ( that's just to cover her face). Moreover the management supports each other without caring for the guests. In all hotels guests are priority but in this hotel staff is first .PL NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE.

« Awesome hotel with an EPIC pool! »

We stayed here for two nights in May with a Globus Tour and it was our favorite hotel from our month long European Vacation. The rooms are very comfortable and we had a balcony with lovely views. Breakfast was delicious and you're very close to a grocery store and a short walk to town with restaurants and shopping. What you cannot miss is the pool. It is seriously the best pool I've ever been in! There are buttons everywhere to press for fun jets of water and we were like little kids swimming from jet to jet. Such an awesome time! Staff was just OK, we kept calling them and telling them our heat didn't work and they just kept telling us to turn in on to 5 (which it was). We're not squeaky wheels, so we had a couple of very cold nights under many blankets. Others in our group had the same complaint and were given space heaters.

    « Matterhorn »

Micaela, the nicest attendant I have ever seen in my life. I had dinner, a delicious meal. She was so pacient with these strange guests asking absurds requests, and still she was sweet. Congrats BEST WESTERN !

    « A trip in Zermatt »

The room is clean and roomy. It is perfect for a vacation. Front desks are freindly and helpful. Over all services are very good. If we have a chance to go to Zermatt, this hotel will be the first choice.

    « Great Hotel - Comfortable, Clean & Quiet »

This hotel is just a short walk from the main section of town, which is why it is much quieter than another one we stayed at. We had a huge patio area with lounge chairs & a separate table and chairs. It was very peaceful and relaxing when sitting out in that space. The room was large and the bathroom was spacious. The hotel staff was very helpful providing great customer service. The restaurant was decorated very rustic and cute and had an excellent breakfast! There is an elevator if one cannot take the stairs. We would happily stay at this location again

« We only used the restaurant, what a mistake »

Zermatt and this hotel in particular seems to me a typical skier's resort and most of the people working there don't try too hard to be welcoming or even pleasant (the receptionist we saw was better than that) rather process another pea and put it in the can. They know they have a captive audience and don't have to try too hard. A particular irritation was paying for our dinner where we were given a voucher for 10% off, the only reason we ate there. Because I didn't present the voucher before ordering the meal (in small letters on the voucher and not mentioned either when I was given the voucher or before I ordered the meal) I was asked to pay the full price. I said that I hadn't noticed the 'before ordering' requirement and had to get a bit shirty saying "just take the 10% off" before a revised bill appeared. That spoilt what was a relatively indifferent dining experience and would be completely avoidable if the staff were simply trained to ask customers if they had a voucher when accepting the order. Another example of there "where else can they go" syndrome. Not impressive for Best Western. Shan't go here again.

    « I had a lovely stay »

I am always impressed by kind service. In this regard, my trip started well, since I was able to make a last minute change to my reservation. The staff was really helpful and made a positive impression from start to finish. I had a double room for single use at the Alpen Resort Hotel. The room was clean, nicely furnished and spacious. There was a big balcony as well and a beautiful view to the Matterhorn. That night, there happened to be an almost full moon, so it would have been very romantic to couples. I especially enjoyed the swimming pool and the saunas. That Monday evening in early May, there were only a few other guests in the pool and none in the saunas, so it was all luxury to me. The other thing I really loved was the breakfast, it was just fabulous. The coffee tasted great and that always makes my day. The ambiance of the breakfast room was cozy and very Swiss with a lot of wood. The morning sun shone through the windows. Ten points for the breakfast. Alpen Resort is easily accessible from the railway station and there are grocery stores nearby. There are no cars in Zermatt so it was very quiet at night - just what I needed. I will definitely come back to both Zermatt and Alpen Resort!

    « Great value »

Great service from all the hotel staff and excellent food. Very very good value for money in Zermatt. If you're there for skiing then the hotel is on the bus route and a short distance from the Gornergrat Station.

    « Beautiful View »

We booked the balcony room with Matterhorn view. However the clouds were very low and we didn't get to see the Matterhorn as we were only there one night. The hotel was very nice and we enjoyed their pool/spa. The town is very nice and we enjoyed walking everywhere.

« Trip to see the Matterhorn »

Booked on impulse, room with a view of the Matterhorn and it didn't disappoint. Nice hotel and room. Staff were great on check in, bags taken to room. We used the shuttle from the train station but it isn't far to walk. Room was well warm, to warm in fact so had to turn it right down. Facilities were great, ate here the first night, was wonderful and staff again were great. It's the opposite side of the town centre from the train station but the town is compact so not a problem.

« Great Location With a view of the Materhorn »

Very charming hotel within five minutes walk of the railway station, the hotel also provides a complimentary shuttle service on arrival and departure, rooms were comfortable, Breakfast and Dinner was ample and very good

« Cozy and Lovely Hotel »

This Hotel was the best and Coziest hotel we stayed in during our last family trip. The room was large and had a separate little room for my daughter. she was thrilled cause it was like a Cozy nook. The room had a great view of Matterhorn. The breakfast was great. a lot of variety. the Dinner menu was good however the water provided was charged and this was a bit un-pleasant, because how can one eat dinner without a glass of water. The service was excellent. we had 2 persons who severed us and the manager. they were very good and kind and friendly. if do go again will certainly stay again. thanks for the excellent service.

« Good location, decent hotel »

The main thing going for this hotel is its location - 5 min walk from the station, ski shuttle bus stop outside the property, grocery store 100 m away. The rooms were average and showed some wear. Ask for a room with a view as not all come with one ("garden view". Most reasonably priced hotel we could find. Staff was helpful with local information.

« Cosiest Hotel I have been to! »

The hotel oozes charm and coziness! From the moment you step into the warm and inviting lobby you can't help but appreciate the hotel. Makes you feel at home instantly. The staff is very warm and friendly! The hotel is about 10 minutes walking distance from the train station! Rooms: The rooms are large and cozy! We stayed in a family room and it had 2 levels. My daughter had the most fun climbing up and down the stairs! The bathroom was adequate and well stocked! The view from the room was to die for! We had a clear view of the Matterhorn when we checked into the room in the afternoon! Food: The breakfast spread was a standard collection of breads, cold cuts, fruits and cereals! I usually like and prefer a hot cooked breakfast which was missing! However the food at the restaurant was great! It was well worth the tab! However even tap water is charged ... The hotel was well worth the price and positives far outweigh the very minor negatives! The staff was 5 Star! Cheers!

« BEST VIEW of matterhorn »

Very Nicely Built and very quite place and Front Rooms with a Balcony is most most prefreable to see the Magnificiant view of the Matterhorn Mountain as this is place most of the people come to see. Dining area is very well decoarted and a Great Ambiance.

« Good value for money »

We recently stayed at tis hotel for a skiing vacation. We were there for 8 nights and chose the half board option (only breakfast.) First thing you should know is that the hotel is further out from downtown BUT it is still 10-15 mns walk from anywhere in downtown. The hotel had the best rate of all the other more centric hotels which were much more expensive. Our room had two double beds and then a loft with two more double beds so it was PERFECT for our family of 4. This type of room would not be suitable for families with very young kids because the stairs to the loft were very steep and narrow. The room was nice although our bathroom door didn't close properly. The view of the Matterhorn from our balcony was great! The breakfast had good options and they even offer an eggs station should you want an omelet or fried eggs. The hotel has a very good size ski deposit for your equipment and they were able to arrange for a taxi to pick us up every morning and drive us to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car (from the hotel it would be maybe at least a 35 mns walk with all the equipment) - you can also choose to walk to the ski bus stop which is a 3mn walk and then ride it to the cable car. The price of the bus is included in your lift passes. We chose the taxi option (3CHF per person from the hotel) because we were a large group with lots of kids and riding the bus would've been a nightmare. My biggest issue with the hotel is the rudeness of two ladies at the front desk. They need to work on the people they have at the front of the house because they are the "face" of the hotel. On two occasions by two different ladies, I found their responses very rude and both were completely unwilling to help out. One of them in particular, didn't feel like explaining to me why the taxi from the cable car to the hotel was 12CHF for only 3 of us when from the hotel to the cable car we were charged 3CHF per person. The taxi driver managed to explain, with no English, that the hotel has a arrangement with the taxi company of 3CHF per person to the cable car BUT on the way back, the taxi ride is 12CHF for up to 4 passengers. Sometimes a hotel is great because of their attentive staff and sometimes a hotel falls short of great because of their rude staff. Having said this, I would probably choose to stay at a different hotel ONLY to be closer to or in downtown. If I could not find a good rate then I would still stay again here in spite of their two rude ladies.

    « nice atmosphere »

a very nice hotel, close to the railway station. the breakfast buffet was good, variety of cheese unfortunately very small, not even a local cheese specialty. tha bar keeper was friendly and humorous, yet the bar musician should definitely be switched, this guy just bored us. the wellness area is nice, although the sauna is quite outdated. on friday night they have a bbq-special with wood/charcoal grill. we didn't eat there but our clothes stank of the smoke just because we walked through the entrance of building c - it seems that the chimney is not working at all...

« Great Hotel at a Great Price! »

Wonderful hotel at a great price right on the main road in Zermatt. Taxi service available to and from the train station. Excellent free breakfast. New Sauna useful for relaxing after skiing. Highly Recommended!

« Best spa facilities of all the hotels we've stayed at »

Sunbathing on the balcony after a full day's skiing (room D103), relaxing in the sauna, hamman, jacuzzis and pools then a five course meal with attentive staff - what more could you ask for? Just down the road from the skibus stop, the hotel is on the unfashionable side of the station and the prices reflect this. We discovered the Alpenresort six years ago and thought it was so good we rebooked this year - and it seems even better.

    « Unforgettable »

First of all i have to respectly appreciate of their kindly staff's manner. Clean rooms with a wonderfull view to matterhorn from it's lovely balcony. It's just about 5 minutes from the mail cable car station by walking. It has e beautiful garden. The breakfast is so delicious and nutricious to climb up. I hope to be in there one more time with enough time to sky.

    « Excellent service »

We went to Zermatt to celebrate our daughter's first birthday. Had an absolutely brilliant holiday. Pros Excellent service- the staff especially the front desk ( Lucia) and the restaurant staff was very courteous and helpful. They all speak English! Great location- right next to the train station and market Heated jacuzzi and swimming pool - perfect for relaxation Great view from the room - we stayed on the 2nd floor and had a panoramic view of the Matterhorn. Cons The massage room did not have sufficient heating The play area is pretty bad - non existent. No entertainment for babies. The buffet menu was a little boring. Had little to offer. Overall, a great hotel with very helpful staff. Highly recommended! I would definitely stay here again! Thank you for the lovely experience.

    « Amazing stay!!!! »

We arrived at the hotel late at night after an exhausting day of travel to be told our original budget room booking had been UPGRADED to a beautiful room on the top floor with breakfast included! We absolutely loved our stay in Zermatt at this resort and would definitely come back. We used the tennis court, steam bath, sauna, gym and pool all for free. The staff were very kind and the location is perfect. Breakfast provided many choices. Thank you for the amazing stay :)

« Well situated in Zermatt, this hotel is an excellent choice. »

We stayed for just one night but were very happy with the hotel and the service provided. Our room had a balcony which was a bonus. Breakfast was comprehensive and the staff were friendly. We would recommend the Best Western Alpen as a great place to stay. Not far from the railway but far enough away from the hustle of the tourist areas to allow a quiet and restful stay.

    « Switzerland tour »

I and my wife stayed for one night on my recent Switzerland tour. We came one day earlier as have booked and because the hotel was overbooked they offer us an appartment in house in Zermatt. The appartment was great with Materhorn view, can only recomended. The only bad thing is a little bit weak wi fi. Thanks again friendly staff that makes our stay in Zermatt very pleasant. Personally I would not recommend this hotel.

    « Great stay »

We stayed in building C on the fourth floor. It was a corner unit so we got views from 3 sides, with the balcony facing the Matterhorn. It was a gorgeous room. I think they recently upgraded the washroom as well. For the rate that we paid, we were surprised we got such a great room. The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful and provided recommendations on hikes. The restaurant had decent prices, and we ended up getting pizza takeaway. The restaurant staff seemed to be pretty overwhelmed with the number of guests, and one of the waitresses was rude to us and did not want to take our order. We ended up speaking to the manager who was nice and took our order. I would advise to avoid peak hours at the restaurant. Overall a great stay. I really like the location as well. It's close to the train station and it's tucked away so it's less noisy than the hotels on the other side of the train station (with all the shops)

    « Tired, stinky room »

I stayed for one night at this hotel on my recent Switzerland tour. I have booked all 4 stars hotels during my trip, so I was really disappointed when I saw our room. We arrived late at night and maybe we got one of the last rooms. Regardless, this was not of a 4 star standard, a tired 3 stars at best! When we got to our room it was stinky and we opened the window to let fresh air get in. The room was spacious, but tired and in need of maintenance. In the toilet, the sink was cracked and we discovered that the stinky smell was coming from the toilet. When you would flush it, there was a little hole opening up and a lot of smell was coming from there. So we kept the door to the toilet closed for the night. As we were on the ground floor, we did not have any view, but that did not bother me. The reception area and the restaurant had a cozy feel and that was nice. We would have liked to use the spa facilities the next day, but only the pool was open in the morning and the rest would only open after 3pm, presumably to save money? Therefore we have paid for facilities which we could not use as we had to leave before 3pm to go to our next destination. Someone mentioned in the reviews that there are bathrobes and slippers available in the room, but none were present in our room. We checked out early and they had no storage room to put our suitcases, they did not even have any sort of a tag system. The electric vehicles that take you to the train station were in front of the hotel but no one offered their services to us. Maybe they were out of use or more saving money exercise. All in all, compared to other 4 stars hotel in Switzerland this was the worst. I would grade this as a poor 3 star hotel at best, but will never go back to it. It probably got its 4 stars 20 years ago, but is now in need of major updating! If you're lucky you may get a better room, but personally I would not recommend this hotel.

    « One word-Perfect! »

Overall superb experience. The apartment was very spacious, clean and well equipped. Bedroom, kitchen, dining & living area were on the upper floor while bathroom was at the lower floor. Great amenities available; staff were friendly and location was conveniently located to visit Matterhorn or other attractions and hike. Wide spread of selection for breakfast with sparkling wine included.

    « Extremely Comfortable Stay »

We had a fourth floor balcony family room in building c - excellent views of matterhorn. The kids had their own raised section in the rafters! Its classy but not posh, which suited us extremely well. Spa Area was excellent - indoor pool with various push-button jacuzzi and waterfall features around the edge. Separate jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym all excellent. There was a large underground games room which although accessible, was a bit strange and seems to be undergoing some renovations. Restaurant was also great and no more expensive than the restaurants in town. You can walk there with rolling luggage from the train station, although there is also a free shuttle upon request.

« Great view , good comfort, very friendly stuff... »

We where very surprised when we entered the Hotel. I booked in my mobile without seeing the pictures very clear. Big surprise on the Rooms and the upgrade we became with a stunning view to the Matterhorn. The Hotel stuff is very friendly thru the entire crew! The Hotel is located very close to the Train station in a quite area. It's a good choice to stay in Zermatt and we can definetly recommend.

« Beautiful Night in Zermatt »

We stayed in one of the newer rooms on the -1st floor. It had two stories, the first included the living room, the kitchen and the beds; two queens. The bathroom was downstairs. It was a palace. It was bigger than my own room at home. The location was only a short 5 minute walk from town.

« One of the best hotels in our 9 day trip »

The staff, amenities, food and everything was great compared to the rest of the hotels we stayed in Switzerland. They accommodated late check-in without any fuss. the pickup/drop from/to the train station was great. The amenities were more modern. The breakfast buffet had more varieties. Overall stay was very pleasant.

« Incredible week in Zermatt »

Not only the good wetter but also the great experience in the hotel made this holiday to one of our best visits in Switzerland so far. The staff of the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly during the whole time of our visit even if they had to handle a large group of Asian visitors. The hotel is good located in the village and it was the perfect place to start and to enjoy all our trips in the mountain. The Matterhorn is of course the king of the mountain in this magnificent area. And yes we had a room with a view (looking on the Matterhorn) what we really could appreciate because we love the Swiss mountains.

« Beautiful hotel and room with a stunning view! »

The staff were welcoming and helpful, room was simple but comfortable and modernized. The loft above the main area was fantastic for the kids (stairs a little treacherous!) Breakfast was solid, great bread and eggs and delicious coffee. Amazing pool and facilities in the basement! The clincher was the direct view of the famous Matterhorn mountain from our balcony! Took our breath away!

« Nice to swim and soak in the whirlpool after the hike down from the Gornergrat! »

The hotel room for two was modern and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and the staff was kindly. We ate one evening meal at the hotel restaurant (they offered us 10% off). The menu was a bit confusing but the lamb filet with 'sport' salad was excellent.

« Good place to stay in Zermatt »

We enjoyed our 3 day family stay at this hotel in Zermatt. Our room was a corner family room, with a large bedroom/livin room and a separate room with a bunl bed for the children. One bathroom with glass sliding door and a sink in the children´s room. The BEST thing about the room was the view of the Matterhorn. The room price included breakfast which was a bit scarce. We had breakfast arounf 09.30h (after the crowds had gone) and tables were always available. There were sausages, scrambled eggs, beans, rice, available, some breads, hard boiled eggs, and croissants. Some cold cuts (ham, turkey, salami) and juices were also available. Over all, we were not very impressed with the variety of the food quality. The hotel is located a bit away from the city center (5-10 minute walk) which is not a problem, unless you have to carry a 4-5 year old on your shoulders up the street after a long day of hiking. :-D The front desk personel was very helpful with information and help reagarding any need we might have. Overall I would recommend this hotel but I would be inclined to try a new one if I return to lovely Zermatt.

« Residence Patricia - fantastic view of the Matterhorn and beautiful apartment! »

The penthouse apartment is beautiful, modern and very well-built. Very spacious and beautiful views of the Matterhorn from the living room balcony. We were 6 adults with toddlers and the children had a great time running around. The kitchen is very well-equipped and wi-fi was good. The only point to note it that the location is not very central. Its far from the town centre, grocery stores, restaurants and the usual route from the train station to the apartment is a very busy and congested route.

« nice flat with a small kitchen and a standard living room with a modern TV. Bed was ok »

this flat can absolutley be recommended. the balcony is nice. the direct view is to a small industrie park. but along the house side you have a nice view to the matterhorn. close to a grocery store to get your food. A small coffee dispenser which makes a ver delicious coffee.

    « Residence Patricia - fantastic view! »

We stayed at Residence Patricia which is affiliated with Best Western Plus. The room was very clean, and comfortable and the view of the Matterhorn from the balcony was spectacular , especially against a cloudless sky! The pool and sauna area are unique! Clean, warm and cozy! The building is a bit of a jaunt from the train station when you have luggage, so be sure to insist on the free pick-up and drop off that is offered. While the front desk receptionist generously allowed us an early check-in, we found her to be generally dismissive especially in having to negotiate our complementary drop off even in the pouring rain. Fortunately, other staff were helpful and friendly. Of course, we loved the hiking, fabulous scenery; the museum is well worth visiting too! Can't wait to return!

    « A day in the alps »

We stayed in the Patricia apartments. It had a bed , bathroom and small kitchen with fridge and hot top and kettle. Perfectly fine for an over night stay. It is not in the high end of town but after a day on the slopes walking around we were ready for a rest and not a party night. Remember it is a tourist town and is very expensive!

    « Rude receptionist »

We have stayed in Residence Patricia Zermatt that is also managed by them. On arrival we were greeted by very rude receptionist. Then there is the location - it is located at the industrial end of Zermatt. The room - that would have been acceptable if not for the mold in the bathroom and leaking radiator. So if you are looking to stay in a moldy room in the industrial part of Zermatt with a view on the railway station and the heliport and rude staff this is your ideal place to stay. Otherwise avoid.

« Convenient place to stay »

Pretty good room, with kitchenette, which makes it easy to prepare your breakfast or picnic for the day. A little far out from the center, but in walkable distance. Internet connection was a bit slow..

    « Great Stay »

Stayed one night in the hotel (before embarking on Glacier Express). Got a room upgrade upon check-in for a nice large room with a balcony. Overall excellent stay and would be happy to visit again when in Zermatt.

« Excellent Hotel, Large Rooms »

This hotel was within a 5-10 minute walk of the train station. The rooms were quite large, especially by European standards. The beds were very comfortable and the food in the dining room was quite good. In fact, it was the best food we had on the entire trip! For dinner, one of us ordered a dish called Rosti, which was potatoes cooked with cheese and ham and it was, by far, the best meal any of us had had. We almost ordered a 2nd helping, it was so good.

« Very nice property a little far from town Centre when you see the size of the Town »

The family room is the best that I have seen in Switzerland . Room 115. The hotel has a pool and a tennis court. A full restaurant. And like most good hotels they pick up and drop from the train station. If you come on before check inn or your train is late in the evening they have a large luggage room to put your stuff in. The view from my room balcony was of the matterhorn . Just breath taking. No Aircon was the only disscomfort . Also I could not get an iron as housekeeping was closed after 9 pm.

    « A lovely surprise »

We booked to stay in one of the budget rooms here and I was pleasantly surprised that nothing about it felt budget at all! Both the room and bathroom were clean and spacious and had more than enough space for the 6people in our group. Use of the games room, pool and steam room were a bonus. Breakfast was great the lady serving us was super friendly and accomodating. I would highly recommend.

    « Noise and location »

Hotel gave us a nice room with great view, but since we were on the end of the same building as reception, the noise was terrible. Hotel is currently adding a sun room across from reception. Think drilling and installing metal framework behind a thin plywood wall. We asked to get another room, but were told they had no more rooms. Not pleased with breakfast,as my husband and I arrived for breakfast at 9 am and although the breakfast was open for another hour, there was only one slice of. A on and two tablespoons of s ambled eggs and the kitchen was not putting any more food out. Coffee was good, as they had run out and I got fresh brewed.

    « Homely stay »

I recently visited Zermatt, a very environmental-friendly and lovely town in Switzerland. Our group stayed at Best Western Alpen Resort Hotel which was not very far from the train station -just a few minutes walk. The hotel and its area are very lovely. It looks small but confortable, like a big house of a good old friend. The room needs no air-conditioner because Zermatt is cold all year round. We had a very good view of Matterhorn Klein from our balcony. So we can warm ourself with a free cup of coffee while enjoying the view of the great Matterhorn Klein from our balcony. All neccessary amenities are provided. Staff are friendly and breakfast is really very good. Don't miss Best Westen if you plan to go to Zermatt.

    « Needs TLC »

The hotel is close to the train station, and had a partial view of the Matterhorn. However, we arrived about 3:00 and had over an hour's wait for the room. Dark interior with two lower floors that have activities (pool, games, etc) but underground, dreary, and unsettling for my children. A plus for the room, large balcony to hang out hand-washed laundry. My children loved that there was across the train tracks about a hundred sheep and we could hear their bells from the balcony!

« Good Room with Good View »

We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2016. Family room having one bed and one sofa bed at ground and one bed at loft from some stairs. Breakfast was Ok. This hotel is having very good facility of some sports which we were not able to utilise due to time constraint. Almost all the rooms having good views of alps.

    « Comfortable and homely »

We arrived late afternoon after a long train journey and were very tired. We were able to make a cup of tea and sit on our balcony and marvel at the peak of the Matterhorn. The room was large, clean and comfortable, with a roomy bathroom. The hotel has a homely ranch-style layout, not a high-rise. The restaurant on site was convenient.

« Nice view of Matterhorn! »

Hotel is only 5-minutes walk from the train station. Spacious room with a view to Matterhorn. We had received a welcome sparkling wine through direct booking which could be consumed at the dinner. Their 5-ocurse dinner is a must to try!

« good for families as groups »

we have booked the family room with double bed, single bed and an small sofa bed that is good enough for kids. The Room was enormous big and lovely made with wood and stone floor. Breakfast buffet is good with all sorts you need. Staff was friendly and helpful. We travelled with 2 kids and kids are very welcome in this Hotel. We can recommend it absolutely.!

    « A good Place to Stay »

We stayed here for two days and found the place really nice and comfortable. The hotel is located near the Bus station and Train station, so there is no need for taxi. Breakfast was good, rooms are spacious, bathrooms excellent, view of matterhorn par excellence, heating of rooms great, helpful staff, shuttle to and from station complimentary, Play area with table tennis badminton, swimming pool spa.

« A beautiful clean hotel in the heart of Zermatt »

We stayed there with our family of 5 and my parents. It was wonderful. The staff were awesome. Check in and Check out simple. The included breakfast was 5 star. We would definitely stay there again. The pool are was spotless and excellent for our children. We had great views of the Matterhorn.

    « Affordable but basic »

Positives: Good value for money, especially in pricey Zermatt. Close to train station. Negatives: They wanted to cancel our booking when we were on our way to arrive because there was a problem with the booking when they received it (even though I booked a month earlier). Pillow was not comfortable. There was a big group that was very loud, even in the early morning.

    « Great budget room »

We booked budget room for 2 nights which is supposedly to come without view in the basement. But out side of window has pleasant flower plants and still be able to see sky and mountain with plenty of light and view. We don't feel anything like underground room, even feel more private. Room is huge with basement washroom. We felt we get more than we expected, once we entered the room. Wifi is great, tap water is so delicious to drink. Receptionist is so proud of their water quality and I have to admit he should be. Reception staff were helpful. If I must write something not so great about this hotel, only the breakfast is kind of mean but not necessarily poor, good enough for such resort style hotel. Table tennis is just one floor down, we played a bit. Swimming pool and Sauna was appealing but no time to try it. Overall great experience staying here especially when combined with great ambience of Zermatt itself.

« Good value, friendly hotel »

Located at the less upmarket end of town, but with views of the Matterhorn (weather permitting) to the front of the hotel. Only 3 minutes walk to the station (with a courtesy vehicle available). Though small, the hotel gardens are nicely planted, and the reception/lounge/bar area very cosy and attractive. Our room was quite spacious and recently refurbished, with a number of different modes and intensities of lighting you can vary, which we always appreciate. Our terrace was communal, with privacy dividers extending halfway only from the bedroom to the terrace balustrade. Good selection of delicious fare for breakfast, with real OJ! Above all though, the staff without exception were friendly, helpful and thoughtful, making it a welcoming place to return to in the evening.

    « Excellent - Alpen Resort Hotel »

Zermatt -- Car Free Resort of Switzerland. Only Battery Operated and Electric vehicles allowed in Zermatt. Car/Coach drops the visitors at Tasch and either you take a train or come up by special battery operated vehicles, and I believe the best place to stay if you are in Zermatt would be Alpen Resort Hotel . Great Property and very courteous and helpful staff . We were in Room # 31 on the third floor , very spacious room, had refrigerator , Tea/Coffee maker and best part was the balcony facing the valley and has awesome views of the mountains. It was snowing when were there so were able to see the beauty of the nature mother . it has lots of amenities like indoor pool, sauna , hot tub etc and also game room with ping pong tables and indoor badminton court . The game room stays open till 9.00 PM . The location of the hotel is great just few yards from Zermatt Railway Station and smaller but beautiful downtown. A walk to the down town while it was snowing was great experience.

« great location and great staff »

Everything was perfect. check in process pick up at railway station. very helpful staff. nice toys for kids to play.view from the room was excellent. bus transfer was just near to hotel. rooms were quite spacious.

« Interesting two-day stay. Loved the indoor pool. »

Rooms were great, the staff was fantastic. and we really enjoyed out stay here. Their indoor pool is unusual and interesting too. Many amenities, including a hot tub. Sauna, tanning room, gym, etc. very nice.

« stay at the Alpen Resort Hotel »

Our extended family of 6 stayed at the Alpen Resort Hotel the last couple of days. It was a short walk from the train station, and there is a shuttle to the hotel. We had a family room with 2 beds down below and a loft with 2 up above. Modern and clean bathroom, but the best thing was the view...the Matterhorn could be seen lying in bed! We woke up to the procession for the Festival of Corpus Christie this morning, goats and sheep on the hill with bells, and marmot chirping! Breakfast has hot and cold options. Overall, enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Alpen Resort Hotel.

« Lovely Hotel in a beautiful spot. »

Arrived at Zermatt ,beautiful countryside, green everywhere except on the mountain, that night snow began to fall,by morning the landscape had change to white snow still falling, what a sight, just gorgeous.....The hotel was very welcoming, people lovely, close to train station. The room we had was a quad,2 beds loft style and then queen bed down stairs, quite roomy, beds great plus a balcony. There was a lot to choose from for breakfast and the staff were friendly. The village itself had loads of choices for food.

« Great room with great views »

Very nice room with excellent views of the mountain. Great spa, great breakfast and very nice staff. I even got a room upgrade from a single to a double room. Highly recommend the place. Thank you for the hospitality.

« Excellent hotel, very good location »

Three single rooms were booked, we were allocated three twin rooms for single occupancy at no extra cost. Rooms were warm, clean, comfortable, with outside relaxing area. Bathroom was fresh with superb shower, toiletries provided. There was a mini bar which is a big plus for keeping milk, water fresh and cool. Many UK tv programmes were available. The hotel is in an excellent location, many amenities very close at hand. Unfortunately due to our visit between winter and summer seasons quite a lot of hotels, eating places were closed, as were some of the cable cars etc. However, this did not detract from the enjoyment of the Zermatt break - we had snow, lots of blue sky, lots of sun.

« Delivered on room with view of the Matterhorn »

Nice size room with a really nice view of the Matterhorn. I liked the pool and spa area on level -1. Hotel staff was very nice and friendly, would have given this hotel a "5" rating if I hadn't nearly broke my toe on the 1" step between the entry and rest of the room and had lots of problems getting the shower head to work. Loved Zermatt, would love to come back, and would definitely stay here again. J

« Great Hotel and huge room »

Very good room huge room with an excellent bathroom at the ground floor which was really huge. Good service. I choose this under Zermatt Budget rooms, since this is a room at the lower level and the cost is lower than other rooms. But the room was really amazing. Around 200 mts from Zermatt station.

    « Quaint family-friendly resort, unbeatable views »

Stayed in room 405 with 3 beds, including separate room with single bed - perfect setup for my parents and I. Bathroom was spacious and recently renovated. Views of Zermatt and Matterhorn are unmatched. Short walk to train station. Strange setup with a huge play area (badminton, ping pong, etc) but claustrophobic pool / wellness area that feels very busy. Staff were courteous and spoke English. Overall, it's a run-of-the-mill resort that shows its age, but is very well-maintained and good value in an expensive location.

    « A Good Hotel in a Quiet Location »

I stayed here in May 2016 for six days with my brother and my mother as a getaway for my birthday. I have stayed here previously: then I was in one of the separate buildings; this time, I was near to reception. The check in and check out processes were quick and efficiently dealt with by the reception staff. Unfortunately I had cause to complain about a barking dog on one of the nights - it barked non-stop for at least half an hour - but the problem didn't recur after that. Breakfast offered a good variety of hot and cold food: crusty rolls and breads, croissants, cereals, sausages, eggs, cold meat, fruit juices, and jams and other spreads. This lists most of what was on offer but I have probably not listed everything. The waiting staff were attentive and enthusiastic. The room was clean but replenishment of the coffee was missed a couple of times in the rooms of my guests. The room has a mini-fridge which was great because I was able to buy and keep fresh milk for my coffee instead of using powdered milk/ creamer. Outside of the room I occupied was a sitting area - partly grassed, partly paved - and there were sun loungers for when the summer arrives. It may be at over 1,600m altitude but Zermatt can get hot in the summer and it has been mostly sunny on all of my nine or ten visits. I didn't use the pool or, indeed, any of the leisure facilities so I can't comment on them except to say that they look nice. I also didn't eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening but, based on my previous half-board experience, the food is good. The hotel is in a very convenient location (~300m) for the main station (from Täsch)and the station for the Gornergrat railway and for the electro-bus to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise gondola/ cable-car station. It is not too far (~600m) from the funicular to Sunnegga either. Needless to say, there are numerous walking trails within easy reach, eg the trail down to Täsch is only seven hundred metres down the road. There is a Co-op shop in the shopping mall just next to the Gornergrat train station. It is a quiet location. There are numerous restaurants in Zermatt so you will not be short of options for eating out and there are cafes at the destinations and intermediate points for the cableways and train. This year was the first time that I have been to Zermatt in the off-season. Previous visits have been in January, March and August. There was only one day before the cable-car to Klein Matterhorn closed for maintenance and it was cloudy and snowing horizontally that day so there was no access to the viewing platform at 3.883m and no chance to go back on one of the subsequent sunny days. Also, the gondolas that travel via Schwarzsee to Trockener Steg (the stop before Klein Matterhorn) were off and the only way to Trockener Steg was by a direct cable car from Furi. Incidentally, most of the mountain restaurants at Furi were closed for the off-season period. The entire Rothorn mountain transport was shut so no easy access to the likes of Stellisee. Some of the big hotels - Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, Hotel Mont Cervin and Hotel Monte Rosa (the original Zermatt hotel) were shut as were some of the restaurants and shops. With the aforementioned mountain transportation, hotels, restaurants and shops closed for the inter-season break from the 3rd or 4th week in April until the end of May or the middle of June, a quieter time can be expected or maybe looked forward to in Zermatt along with reduced lift pass prices. I, however, would rather forego the reduced mass of people and cheaper lift passes to have everything operating and offering full choice.

    « Will go again !! »

5 mn walk from the train station, great rooms with superb view of the Matterhorn, plentiful breakfast with many choices (awesome beans and delicious grapefruit juice) but the staff is what makes this place a must: they are not only very welcoming but will do everything they can to assist you in anything you need with a smile. You can dine-in as well in the hotel restaurant that has a great menu and wine list.

« Sort of away from it all »

Decent Best Western but nice by European standards with updated bathrooms. Breakfast is a disaster so find an alternate place to eat. It's a 3 min walk away from the "main strip" which makes it quiet. Decent but small gym and does have a hot tub and heated pool.

« Amazing destination to visit »

The hotel is very cozy n at the best location. It has got good recreation facilities like pool, TT table, jacuzzi . It's proximity to train station makes it easier to reach the hotel. The room provided excellent view of Peak Matterhorn. The staff is very helpful n cheerful.. Enjoyed the stay...

    « Its ok »

We had a room in the main building which had a nicely renovated bathroom. However shower went hot and cold each day. Bed was comfy, breakfast was ordinary but ok by Europe standards. Excellent view from balcony of Materhorn

    « Good hotel »

My rooms position was in the ground floor just opositte the reception with little day light, anyway we were active during the day so we actually didnt need that. I visited pool and sauna - pool was ok with hydromassage, sauna also ok, small but cosy. Breakfast room big enough; breakfast jwas also fair with enough offer. Staff friendly! I found old watter in kettle and one cup for coffee was dirty. Anywas my mark is : Overall 4* !

« Good hotel, good location »

The hotel is very comfortable with options of relaxing (pool, fitness center), it is well located and the staff is very kind. The breakfast is good and there is a car transfer to the train station. The city is beautiful- worth to visit.

« Great stay close to heart of Zermatt »

We had a large room with good outlook to see the snow that fell for two days during our stay. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Hotel was a 3 minute walk from rail station and 5 minutes from heart of Zermatt. Buffet breakfast was good and plentiful. Would recommend.

This hotel is very central and a short, downhill walk from the railway station. It is set back off the road in a very quiet location. However, there were a number of bar and club signs around which suggested it might get busy and noisier but as I am deaf I had a very quiet night's sleep. I did not eat in the hotel restaurant but was not taken by the menu. The staff were pleasant and friendly and the room was clean and well equipped, including with some of its own ants. I think there must have been a dead body in the fridge. They did not affect me, though. A very acceptable hotel.

    « Fab Easter Stay »

We spent Easter week at this hotel and were extremely impressed. Rooms are a good size and clean, great pool, sauna, games room, and kids corner. However the very best aspects were the food and staff. We booked half board, breakfast was a nice buffet, but evening meals were something special. Five or six varied courses every night, most main courses were superb. Staff made us feel like one great family, particular praise to Fausto, but the other waiting staff were excellent too. Reception was excellent at helping me locate my wife's skiis after a fall on the slopes, can't praise their efforts enough. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel.

« very friendly and helpful staff! »

it is a comfortable hotel with all necessary amenities - but the best part was the great hotel staff, everybody in the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The location is good, quite close to the lifts and the views are nice.

« We loved this hotel! »

We spent a fantastic skiing holiday based at the Alpen Resort Hotel. Brilliant for families as it is situated very close to the Zermatt Kindergarden, has a large pool / spa area and games room with table football and table tennis. We had a lovely large room, with balcony view of the Matterhorn - nice for sunbathing in the afternoon. Recently renovated bathrooms are also very nice. Evening meals were delicious and plentiful with an additional kids menu. Our waiter, Fausto and his team made us feel at home every evening. Breakfast was good with everything you could wish for before hitting the slopes. It is a 5 minute walk to the Gornergrat & Sunegga lift stations and the bus stop is very near to get to other parts of the resort. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay.

« Good staff and fairly good location »

We had a family room and I was pleased to see that we all had proper beds - no uncomfortable fold-ups or sofa beds as in many other places. The hotel is a short walk from the ski bus stop to the Klein Matterhorn ski area and it is possible to walk to the Sunegga lift but it is a good 5 minutes, quite awkward in ski boots sometimes on black ice and carrying skis so you would not want to be doing that with younger kids. The pool was a good size and in general the whole spa area was quite spacious and welcoming. There was a play area for little ones and then table tennis for elder kids. We had half board and it is excellent value. The restaurant staff, particularly Theana, were all delightful.

« Great View, Clean, Exceeded Expectations »

We reserved two rooms on very short notice. We were there for a single night, and we were there as sight-seers, not skiers. The rooms were spotless, especially the recently renovated bathrooms. The view from the balcony was spectacular (see attached pics). The breakfast was perfect for me: fresh baked bread with a variety of jams, plus many other items for those who eat a more hearty breakfast. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was an easy 5 minute walk from the train station. I would definitely stay there again. The location is probably less convenient for skiers, but there seemed to be a robust bus system to transport skiers to the lifts. If you have a couple of hours to spare, take the train to Gornergrat - the views were unbelievable!

« First time Americans in Zermatt »

Overall, our experience exceeded expectations; location, atmosphere, complementary breakfast, pool/spa facility. Highlights include: 1. We expected a generic Best Western hotel but instead found a cute, local, family owned Swiss feeling property. 2. Guest room was unexpectedly large for a European hotel. 3. Guest room balcony is actually a huge shared deck with village views and the Matterhorn, fantastic!! 4. Grocery store close by across the street to buy local treats and Swiss wine. 5. Pool/spa was updated, clean and great place to hang out apres ski to relax. 6. Complementary breakfast was generous and well staffed for speedy coffee service. 7. Convenient location just a few blocks walking distance from the train station and the heart of the village. Hotel offers free shuttle to/from train station if necessary.

« Perfect for a family ski holliday in Zermatt »

We stayed at the BW Alpen Resort for our Easter ski break this year. As family of 4 with a teenager and a 16 month old this property offers everything we could ask for. We choose a 3-4 bedroom located at the 4th floor, perfectly distributed in 2 levels so our older daughter could have her privacy and we had good space in a wood-Alpen decoration room. The room had a wonderful view of the Cervino, and a terrace that in sunny days was a nice place were to chill after ski fahren! :-) The restaurant had varied and good quality menu every day and excellent choices a la carte. The pool in the basement offered a fantastic relaxing and fun break for the family. The personnel was super attentive and showed authentic care for customers. Location is pretty good, walking distance from Sunnega funivia and the center of Zermatt to access other ski sites or enjoy a walk into town in the evenings. Highly recommended!!!!!

« Views of the Matterhorn »

We had a great room, it was large enough for a stroller and a portable bed, which was provided by the hotel at no additional costs. I would say that the only downside was the distance of the walk from the train station. The fabulous up side was that our room had two balconies and we had a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn.

« Wish I had planned to stay longer here! »

Outstandingly friendly and helpful front desk staff, free upgrade to a room with a view of the Matterhorn, easy to walk to from the train station, fancy bathroom, and a nice breakfast. Zermatt is such a beautiful and interesting location, I wish I had planned to stay longer.

    « Stunning view »

We arrived a bit early but they prepared our room an hour late but the room was so stunning its heal our waiting .The staff was helpful and overall we enjoy stay there. Its not so far from the train station and they provide mini taxi to train and hotel.

« Great place to stay »

We stayed here in one of the basement rooms, which is online referred to as Zermatt Budget Hotel because there is no view. The rooms are HHHUUUGGEE. It had a kitchen with a stove, but strangely no microwave or coffee machine. The upstairs breakfast buffet was great. The restaurant for dinner was OK, but not extraordinary. The pool was, however, quite extraordinary. The pool was equipped with massage jets, which as a pregnant visitor was great bc hot tubs are off limits. There's also a nice sauna, steam room, and even a tanning bed. My kids and I had a great time in the pool. The hotel is walking distance to Sunnega and the train station. The bus stop is out front-- about a block or half block away. The fact that there was no view was not a big deal bc we were out and about all day and there is huge sliding glass door that leads to a sunken window well large enough to go out in. The bathroom downstairs is very ample, but as it is down more stairs-- well that is kind of a pain in the middle of the night. There is also a playroom adjacent to these basement rooms. Fortunately, it closes at 9 so the noise goes away, but it is fun to have pingpong, foosball, and indoor badmitton available. The room also has a table, chair and boot rack outside of the room so you can easily sit down and put on shoes before heading out. There is an ample ski room with lockers and places for ski boots. While there are awkward steps and ramps all over the downstairs levels, it is very well equipped. My kids also loved the little finch and canary in the lobby. The run music and karaoke at night in the lobby too. I was very impressed by my booking at "Zermatt Budget Inn" in the basement of the Best Western.

    « Excellent hotel! »

From the moment we checked in we knew we were at an exceptional hotel! It is lovely inside--and the staff was just simply wonderful. Very friendly and helpful in all respects. Our room was very spacious and the view of the Matterhorn from the balcony was an unexpected bonus! The restaurant food was very good and the breakfasts were a real treat. They opened the bar for us in the evening--overall, a wonderful stay! Highly recommended!

« Nice stay at the Best Western Zermatt Alpen Resort »

Overall, my experience with the hotel was very good, here were some of the highlights: 1. Upon check in (which was late at night) we were greeted by a friendly male receptionist who upgraded us to a larger room. 2. Our room was indeed quite large, with lots of space, and a patio. 3. The patio had a bit of a view of the mountains which was nice, and room to build a snowman. 4. There was a fridge in the room that had minibar goods, but also had room for a view personal snacks. 5. The spa happened to be very nice. The pool and hot-tub were clean, and the steam room and sauna were great. There was extra clean towels and fruit infused water at the spa too. In fact, the spa was probably my favorite part of the hotel. 6. The breakfast was extensive, but 45 minutes before closing there was not much left. 7. The hotel itself is a few minute walk from the train station. There is also a free hotel shuttle to take you there. 8. The wifi was free and pretty good for hotel wifi. There was also a few negatives about the hotel: 1. The bathroom was not well designed, the main wall of it is made of frosted glass that is still a bit see-through. 2. The hot water in the shower was not hot enough for after a long day in the snow. 3. The decor of the whole hotel was outdated, the artwork atrocious. 4. Some of the staff were really nice and friendly, while some didn't appear too eager to help. 5. At dinner in the hotel one night, we were charged 2.50 francs for tap water in a small carafe. Who charges for tap water? I could have went to my room and taken water from the sink! 6. The hotel information booklet in the room said there was a salt-water pool available for use, but the front desk said that guests can no longer use it. They should update their information guides. Overall, I would recommend staying here and I myself would consider staying here again.

    « "Panorama" room - not a panorama view - falsely advertised! »

The only reason we booked this hotel was the hotel website room description: the "panorama double room with Matterhorn view". The hotel was more expensive than other options we found on but we looked forward to Panorama views and paid the extra. What we got at check in was not a room with the view as advertised! Our room looked into the side of the adjacent building. What a disappointment. When we raised this as an issue with reception they had no answer, and no apologies. Apparently customer service along false advertising needs work at this hotel.

« Disappointing service from Hotel »

We booked for seven friends. The last friend who arrvied was told his room had been overbooked. He was offered a room in another hotel much further away. The dissapointing part was that the hotel manager was very unapologetic about the overbooking. We had booked a couple of months in advance, and were disappointed that we all had traveled so far , and not be able to spend the weekend together at the hotel. Regarding the hotel: It shouldn't be classified as a four star hotel, probably closer to a three. The rooms are mainly old. The spa area is a bit of a joke. The personal is friendly, but has no authotity to decide anything. The hotel manager (Mr Reber) could only be reached by phone.

« Luxurious stay in a convenient location »

The hotel staff were friendly and the room was quite spacious for 3 of us. We would have loved to stay there longer and enjoy the spa facilities. The location of the hotel turned out to be quite convenient for us as the train station, shops and restaurants are closeby. The breakfast spread was delectable. I'd love to stay there again.

    « Pleasent Christmas Dinner »

It was our first stay at a Best Western chain. It came across as a decent hotel with friendly staff all around. Room space was sufficient for a two adults and a child. Free wifi connection. Location wise - it will do for a stay close to Zermatt Train station within 3 minutes walking distance. We were booked for a 2 nights stay in a double bed Panaroma room. We could clearly view the MATTERHORN from our balcony. They had a playroom for toddlers on the ground floor which kept my child entertained. Adjacent to the hotel was a fenced snow court for the little ones to build snowman or simply have fun playing around. We had food at the in-house restaurant for breakfast and dinner. On Christmas night, the hotel organised a simple pe-dinner cocktail at their lobby followed by a 5 course dinner spread. We enjoyed that evening the most, other than that food was a very basic spread.

« Nice place, good location »

The hotel is well situated : ski bus to Sunegga rail almost in front of hotel, a few steps from the village center and the different railway stations. Upon arrival one should call the hotel for a car as walking with luggage is very inconvenient (they told us it was only 3 minutes, but with luggage it became 15 minutes). Rooms are spacious and clean. Nice terrace with Matterhorn-view (main building). Indoor pool is ok, although a bit claustrophobic, small Sauna (hot) and Hammam (well heated). The only disappointing thing was the average service at the restaurant where the prices are not really average (slow serving and waiter not so friendly). There are lots of other restaurants in the surrounding aerea.

    « A great weekend »

We wanted to visit Zermatt for a relaxing weekend before the holiday rush and stayed in the hotel for 2 nights. We were impressed firstly by the service - we were picked up from the train station and checked in right away; although we had arrived later in the evening, this allowed us to enjoy the very nice spa before dinner. Dinner in the hotel was an experience, due to the quality of the service and the friendliness of the staff. We ended up dining in the hotel restaurant on both nights! We will definitely come back again!

My family stayed here last year over Christmas and we enjoyed it so much that we came back this year for another week-long stay from Christmas to the New Year. Hotel staff and service are really excellent as are the spa, swimming and ski room facilities. Rooms are big and clean. This time we were in the C Building and had a Matterhorn view from 2 rooms with balconies (Rooms 5 on the first floor and Room 22 on the 2nd floor). We find the hotel location to be a big bonus. The hotel is minutes from everything yet you are in the quiet part of the town centre which is nice. Everything is within walking distance from the hotel such as the main train station, the Gornergrat station, the Sunnegga-Rothorn station and ski rental shops. The Green Line bus which takes you to the Matterhorn Ski station at the other end of town is just a 2 minute walk from the hotel (turn left at the hotel entrance and the bus stop is right there) and the bus also stops at the Sunnegga Rothorn station. There is also an Italian convenience store chain called Denner that is just across from the hotel in case you need anything the hotel doesn't provide. The standard of the dinner menu is superb...really 4 to 5 star. We are always impressed with the quality of the dinner menu and choice as well as the super-friendly staff.

    « Very good »

Nicely located, however the opposite direction from town center but only about a five minute walk. Hotel does offer a courtesy taxi to and from the train station. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and well kept. If you can, get a room with a view of the Matterhorn - it's worth it! Breakfast is varied and very good. Would recommend.

« Great base for skiing »

Nice, comfortable, clean hotel. Ideally placed for the village and the slopes. The rooms are large and clean. Friendly staff. Good bar. Good leisure facilities with a large pool. Very secure ski room.

    « Exceptional Service »

Last summer a friend and I living in different countries each reserved a single room in Residence Patricia, managed by the Best Western. When I arrived, I discovered I had been upgraded to the Best Western but my friend left behind. Although there was no way the manager (Philip) could have known we were travelling together, he bent over backwards to accommodate us both in the same building, and, because one of us had to change rooms after one night and didn't get a kitchen (included at Residence Patricia), offered us free breakfasts for the inconvenience. The breakfasts were excellent, and we really appreciated the on-site swimming pool after a long day's walking. I think the service we received went beyond the call of duty, and I would really recommend this hotel.

« Wondrful stay at Alpen Resort Zermatt »

We spent three nights at Best Western Alpen Resort in Zermatt last week and it was a delightful experience. Our room was roomy and nicely furnished, and the large balcony offered a wonderful view of the Matterhorn. The breakfast had an extensive choice of offerings. Best of all,, the staff were so helpful, and Saskia and Stephanie at the front desk went out of their way to help us with a problem concerning our hotel in our next location Zermatt and the Alpen Resort were the happy highlights of our trip!

    « Nothing's Zermatt-er here! :) »

What a beautiful resort! We were a bit worried as instead of our usual beach holiday, we had decided to do something different for our Summer holiday this year and visit Switzerland. We were still worried when we arrived at the hotel, as instead of a modern all singing all dancing resort that would usually greet us, we found ourselves in a sleepy hotel that could have been from any decade before 1980. We didn't need to worry though - it was a great hotel and had everything we needed! In fact, the traditional outlook of it was something that endeared the hotel and resort to us. It was beautiful and the scenery is breath-taking. We didn't regret one day there. The staff were all extremely friendly and spoke many languages. Robert the Thompson rep was very helpful and was full of information about the resort and area in general. He went out of his way to help us anytime he could, without being overbearing. The hotel was like a tardis! So much in one hotel - pools, spa, table tennis, table football, tennis, gym... something for everybody. The food was great too, both of an evening and for breakfast. The local area is easy to access and the Gornergrat railway is definitely worth a trip. The high street has many shops and restaurants so you are spoilt for choice. We took the 'gondolas' (cable car type things) to different mountain areas on different days and the sights were out of this world. From our room, we were also lucky enough to have a daily view of the Matterhorn (lit up at 9pm and 10pm with a trail of lights showing the first ascent). The gondolas took us even nearer and every sight was worthwhile. We also took some 'kick bikes' down the mountain one day - definitely worth a go! Coffee and cake for elevenses is definitely a must wherever you see it - Well, you need the carbs for all that walking! We definitely had a good time and even an initially reluctant teen admitted to 'quite enjoying himself'! We only visited for a week but would highly recommend it.

« We stayed 2 nights on our Trafalgar tour, very, very good. »

A great location to tour around Zermatt .Close to train station, shopping and many other interests. Mountains could be seen from our room balcony as well as great views of the town. Our breakfasts here were absolutely terrific,A great hotel to stay with. .

    « Wonderful Swiss Hotel »

We really enjoyed the beautiful mountain views from our balcony. The room was very spacious with a beautiful modern bathroom. The bar, restaurant, and lobby were very "Swiss" exactly what your would expect in Zermatt. The only negative is the location is a five minute walk to the stores and center of town. Would definitely return.

    « Like living in a dungeon »

I was staying here for 2 nights involved with an organized tour. It seems depending on your status within the tour group on how many tours you have been involved in, where your room was situated. The hotel is divided up into at least 3 separate buildings that I was aware of maybe 4. My room was underneath the tennis court. The buffet breakfast was the worst of all provided on the tour of 8 days through Switzerland and what made it even worse was the hordes of Japanese who had no manners or respect for other diners. I struck this several times at hotels in Switzerland as it seems separate tours were staying at the same hotels and consisted of dozens of Japanese. To overcome this it pays to get to the dining room a few minutes before 7am. As my room was booked through the tour company I was not able to find out what the cost of my room was for the 2 nights as I can't review this content for value for money. Perhaps staying at an Air bnb might be an option as well as a self contained apartment which I have now found out are available in Zermatt.

« Fantastic Hotel and 5 star service »

We stayed at this hotel in a family suite and with teens 14 and 12 years old. The front desk welcomed us and assigned a room in the Chalet club And it was a suite with two bedrooms with attached bathroom and a common sitting area, very clean, great service and highly recommend for families with children. Very close to train station and shopping district. The restaurant service is also great for dinner.
