The Best Western York Pavilion Hotel is a truly stunning hotel in York, offering peace and tranquility just a mile outside of the center. A brisk 25 minute walk along the river will lead you into the heart of the city, where you can tick off some of the best attractions Yorkshire has to offer. The hotel itself is a Georgian grade II listed country house, with spectacular landscaped gardens, lawns and a courtyard fit for a fairy tale. York is one of the country's most fascinating cities, with countless things to do and see. York's Roman walls, the train museum, the ancient ruins and York Minster are all within a working distance of the hotel. As is Clifford's Tower, which offers some breath-taking panoramic views of York that will be sure to make you fall in love with the city. If you're coming by car, we recommend checking out some of the surrounding attractions. Eden camp is just a 30 minute drive from the hotel, and is one of the UK's largest museums on British militarily and social history. Flamingo land is also just a 30 minute drive, and a superb family day out - with a both a zoo and rides for a jam packed outing. The hotels brasserie is award-winning and will be there to serve you some fantastic fine dining dishes after a busy day. You will enjoy the gorgeous food next to a welcoming fire and beautiful view of the garden. For something a little more informal, the hotels Parisian bar is ideal as it offers just as much style as the brasserie, but in a relaxed setting. So, if you're looking for a blissful escape from everyday life, that's still within walking distance of the historic city center, then the Best Western York Pavilion Hotel is just what you need.

    « York visit »

We stayed here on an overnight visit to York . We had a ground floor twin bedded garden room (62) that was absolutely lovely. It had everything a guest could need for a comfortable overnight stay . Iron and ironing board tea/ coffee facilities hair dryer fan if required outside seating in a beautiful area with wisteria in full bloom . We ate dinner the night before that was enjoyable . We had breakfast which was very over cooked. Unable to eat the bacon black pudding hash browns or beans . But a friend enjoyed a kipper Shame really . We were able to leave car at the hotel when visiting the Rail Museum and take the bus ride into the Railway station and catch a bus back . The bus stop was just out side the hotel both ways . Perfect ! The staff were all pleasant and helpful .

    « "Just Perfect" »

Being in the Hotel business for 35 years I know how difficult it is to get it right. The York Pavilion certainly does in bucket loads. The reception at check in was warm and very efficient, with offer of help with our luggage and I didn't think I looked that old. The room was visually stunning if you are looking for the modern Ikea style furnishing this is not the place. Our room was sumptuous with rich fabrics and the biggest most comfortable bed I have slept in. Apparently all the rooms are individually styled and full of character. Dinner was superb with a well thought out menu, beautifully presented. This service followed through to breakfast were a very busy morning was cleverly controlled by Adam and Rosemary real professionals. All in all this hotel made our 20th wedding anniversary truly memorable. Thank you to all the team.

    « last minute break »

Our daughter is getting married here in August 2019 so we thought we'd see what its like.Booked only few days before and got a deal for £79 inc. cream tea and breakfast, excellent value for York. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and even though there was a wedding and a 60th party we still felt very welcome and important. Room beautiful, everything you need, good quality fixtures and fittings. Quaint courtyards with beautiful trees and plants everywhere, relaxed with our lovely cream tea in peaceful surroundings. Wedding rooms looked absolutely stunning and the bride said she had been delighted with everything.Breakfast was probably the best breakfast we've had in any hotel anywhere in the world. Wonderful stay and will definately be returning for several more stays before the wedding. Feel very confident my daughter will have a beautiful wedding there next year.

« In need of some updating in bedrooms and bathrooms »

Lovely location and building and the main rooms downstairs are very nice it's a lovely building . The standard bedrooms are in need of a bit of an update all seemed a bit stuck in the nineties and I base that on the 3 room changes we had . Stayed for 2 nights on checking in we were allocated room 55 it was small and dark with a bathroom & it was ok could do with a touch of modernising but we had to be asked to be moved as it is next to a locked cupboard which appears to have some fan / generator noise it's very loud and annoying so we asked to be moved - they were very helpful and agreed to move us but room no longer had bath only shower which was better than the noise . This room was even smaller with small shower room slept that night the 2 nd eve washed hands and the hot tap would not switch off & there was a smell of drains in the bathroom . Reception sent someone up to try & fix it - I said I couldn't sleep with the water torture noise we returned after our evening out & were advised to move rooms as the tap couldn't be fused so our 3rd room 58 much bigger & back with a bathroom .. Much better but still in need of general update , bad areas of paintwork etc . Next morning I bathed & there was only one set of towels a phone call to reception and a second set was swiftly sent up for the other half .. The staff were very helpful and attended to issues as quickly and efficiently as they could - I just wish there hadn't been so many issues

« Lovely stay in one of their Apartments »

Really nice little apartment, perfect for one or two, has everything you need, really comfortable bed, I only regret I was too busy to spend much time there! Walked into town a couple of times along the river, only took about half an hour and is a lovely walk. Only possible complaint was you can hear all the footsteps from upstairs, probably not normally much of a problem but I swear whoever was above me didn't stop walking for over an hour one night! Can't comment on the hotel itself as I only went in to check in/out

Wonderful staff, gorgeous building with fabulous bedroom. Location was perfect for us, really easy to get into York. Breakfast well worth having, loads of choice and lovely food. All in all brilliant!!

    « Another good lunch »

I went to the Pavilion hotel for lunch and AGM recently with a large group. We had to choose our options from the menu in advance. This made the serving easy and there did not seem to be any snags. The staff were friendly, helpful, good natured and generally efficient. The room is large but ideal for our group, who have several members with mobility issues. The day was warm and bright and there is a pleasant garden to while away some time. Thank you for another good meal. Mine was delicious.

« Lovely place to Relax »

I booked in to break up a long journey back north and having stayed in two previous places that were almost double the price this turned out to be the one that was far and away the best. I was in a room on the top so there are a number of stairs to climb and there is a lovely higgledy piggledy nature to the steps and floors which are not even. The room had a bath with shower and a study/walk in wardrobe off. Bed was very comfy with a good mattress and linen. Breakfast was excellent and the location for eating was very nicely done eith a view over gardens. There was also a very nice lounge for sitting and relaxing, reading the paper etc. It had a great character with lots of chairs in keeping with the period and each morning a selection of newspapers to read. Small touches like this make you realise it is a well managed hotel. Staff were very polite and friendly. All in all a great discovery and I stay in quite a few hotels so many more could learn a lot from this one. Parking too is free.

    « Relaxing Stay »

A lovely hotel, very cosy. Stayed in one of the four poster bed rooms (fishing theme for whatever reason). Extremely comfortable bed and very quiet part of the hotel which is what was needed. About half hour steady walk into town but close to bus stops and local pubs if needed. Welcoming staff when checking in and out.

Found hotel by chance through search engine hotels.com we stayed for 3 nights in a double room bed & breakfast. Upon arrival the friendly reception staff checked us in early. Our room at the top of the hotel was small but very homely & comfortable with a bathroom. The breakfast was one of the best we have ever had ad much or as little as you wanted again friendly and attentive staff. We had a lovely relaxing weekend.

    « Mothers day lunch »

Met family here for a mothers day lunch. Food and service were great. Family stopped here and reported that the room and staff were great and they'd definitely be coming back. My other half also celebrated her 50th birthday here too in October with private dinner party which was great. We'd never really considered eating here before as hotel restaurants tend to be poor but we'll definitely add the Pavillion to our sunday lunch venue list.

    « Faulty Towers Manager »

This is a lovely hotel with great food and delightful staff apart from the terribly rudeness and complete lack of courtesy of Adam a manager who was so rude we have decided not to visit again despite the rest of the team being truly lovely Whilst the request to pay corkage on the wine we drank in our room was not unreasonable It was the dreadful way this was requested You have now sadly lost 3 bookings at Christmas and probably lots more However if the problem was remedied we would love to come back

« Good value afternoon tea »

We had booked afternoon tea at The Best Western Hotel York Pavilion. Not far out of York. Good parking. We were greeted at the reception and offered tea in the lounge. Lovely log fire. The room was lovely a bit of shabby chic with fresh flowers. Beautiful decoration over the mantelpiece The tea was good with a selection of sandwiches, warm scones, cakes and chocolates. All the staff were friendly and professional. The Director of operations obviously loved her job and is good with people. We can highly recommend afternoon tea! The pictures in the ladies toilet were fun! Will be back! It was a cold day as can be seen from the garden fountain!

    « A hotel with a character »

Great hotel for couples, not that close to the centre of York (some 40 minutes walk or 10 minutes by cab) but in a romantic surrounding. The rooms are on the ground floor, when you step out of the door, you find yourself in the middle of a garden with cast iron chairs and tables. It should be very beautiful in the summer. Rooms are comfortable and originally furnished, every one is decorated differently in a special design. There is free parking.

« A lovely old house wsreviceith modern »

We stayed early this year all the rooms are themed and well finished warm comfortable with tea, coffee ect the breakfast was great with very friendly staff. A mile or so out of York but on a main bus route. Plenty of free parking(many in York charge) If you want to stay in a great place with history and good staff stay here

    « Pleasant: helpful staff »

A few days after I had booked with free cancellation, I received a better offer: a deluxe room for only a few pounds more. This was certainly nicer than the standard that I have had before. Calm and spacious, with a very comfortable bed and chairs and a large bathroom. Niggles: the shower screen over the bath is fixed, which makes it difficult to turn on the taps from outside the bath without gorilla arms. The windows had secondary double glazing, but the maid left them open, so the room was very cold when when got back in the evening, and the hotel must have been paying a lot to heat the outside. The brown bread and cheese at breakfast were a bit disappointing: very processed. It is useful to have a pc available for guests, but I found it difficult to use: I am used to using a keyboard or a mouse for navigation since around 1982, but this one defeated me.

« A lovely hotel, 5 mins in a taxi to the centre of York »

Just been for our 3rd stay at the Pavillion, we go every year for 2 nights to visit York, We have eaten in the restaurant prior years which is well priced, Breakfast has plenty of choice, The staff are polite and accommadating, The courtyard rooms are lovely but we were in the hotel this year, which is still the same standard but enjoyed the outdoor rooms more and would ask for those when booking again, Overall a lovely setting and place to stay.

    « Pleasant stay »

I stayed here overnight last week as part of a business trip and had a pleasant stay. The hotel itself is an old building so it was quite unusual and we had rooms on the 3rd floor which were quite confusing to get to. My room was a little smaller than my colleague's but it had the important amenities. Toiletries were provided and I liked how hot chocolate and biscuits were included on the hospitality tray. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was decent. Only slight problem I had was that the room was a little warm and I couldn't get the window open. However I could get the bathroom window open and that had to do. As we had to leave the next morning at 6:45am and were going to miss breakfast, the hotel kindly made us a sandwich to take with us and booked us a taxi. Overall a good stay with good service.

« Night away from the kids »

Spent a night hear last week with the partner. Hotels location is good, but the bedroom was not the greatest for the price we paid did seem to think we would of been better off in a premier inn. The reasons for this are as followes the bed was not very comfy and needed updating the flush handle on toilet was broken. And the room just felt very dated. The breakfast was ok but not fantastic. I would not stop hear again

    « Few niggles »

This is a very quaint hotel in a really nice historic building. Rooms well equipped and look after. Breakfast choice is very good. We used the private dining room as a large group and had to pre order. Mistakes were made with both the mains and desserts. When you are emailing across the requests then you don't expect there to be errors. Was very difficult resolving this and resulted in us speaking to a number of staff and ended up with half the party waiting ages for their correct food. The quality of the food was good but no apologies were made for the problems or recognition of the error which left a sour taste. A shame when the room itself is exceptional and food so good. Let down by basic customer service.

    « Perfect Hotel »

I stayed one night while in York on business. I stayed in a double room which was not large but big enough. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was fantastic. The food in the restaurant was excellent and perfectly cooked. Breakfast was also amazing. I will definitely look to book here again when I'm next in York

    « Weekend break away »

We stayed at the pavillion hotel from friday to sunday for a short city break. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definatly stay here again if we visit york again. The staff were all really friendly and helpfull through out our stay. The room we stayed in was lovely with plenty of room and everything we needed. The breakfast both days was very good with lots of choices on offer the cooked breakfast was especially nice. The hotel is well placed for walking into the city centre the walk along the river has some lovely views. There is also buses that run frequently through out the day and the bus stop is close by.

« Welcoming hotel on the outskirts of York »

The hotel is situated about a mile and half outside the town centre. It is a pleasant 25-35 minute walk in along the river (the reception are more than happy to direct you to the path) or a slightly shorter, much duller walk along the main road past the barracks. There is plenty of parking, though it on gravel and none of it is "marked, so you may find that your fellow guests have differing ideas as to how much space their car needs/deserves and you may not have as much available as you would like or need. The staff are welcoming and friendly and, even though we arrived a few hours before the allowed "check in" time, they were more than happy for us to register and leave the car in the car park and head off into town. The hotel decor is styled so as to be reminiscent of a "1950s Country House", but with all of the guest rooms individually themed and furnished with very comfortable beds (and exceptionally warm quilts), all the standard/expected amenities and the fastest filling bath I think I have ever seen. The gardens and courtyards looked as though they would be a lovely place to share afternoon tea or post-dinner drinks in slightly warmer, drier weather than we had during our stay. The breakfast was varied and tasty (choice of Full English, Kippers, Salmon and Scrambled Eggs, Bacon or Sausage sandwich as well as the usual "cold buffet" and cereal) and served with in a manner that was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. We ate out on both nights of our stay so can't comment on the quality of the dinners, but the menu looked varied and reasonably priced for a hotel of this style in this location (£25-£30 a head for a 3 course dinner). We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay which, even though we were there over Valentines Day, we were able to book in advance for only £65.00 per night including breakfast (and this was for one of the Superior rooms) which was much better than the rates being charged by the Travelodges and Premier Inns that are slightly nearer to the town centre. We had a great time here and would not hesitate to come back if we are visiting the area again.

    « Work trip »

The hotel is in a good location near the University, with easy access to restaurants and town centre. Also has parking, although is a little snug when busy. The staff are really friendly and helpful from checking in to breakfast the following morning. Wifi is ok in the room, drops in and out which tends to generally happen in most hotels are stay in. Rooms are nice and clean, although dated. Not overly keen on the fur throw thing on the bed as I always wonder how often they get laundered. The room was on the colder side, even though the radiators are on - no air conditioning. Ok size. Bathroom is very in need of a make over/refurb. Very good water pressure, shame the bath didn't drain properly. I did let them know, so hopefully its been sorted. Bar area is ok, however the chairs and tables are more bistro than comfy lounge. It is also used in the morning for breakfast, so I assume its more for this function. There are multiple areas outside which look nice, although it is February, so did not get to experience them. The breakfast was one of the best fry ups I have had. It was non-greasy, tasty bacon, sausage, eggs all cooked perfectly. Worth staying again just to have this!! I would stay again, although not sure what its like in the summer without air con. But I guess you just need to open a window when so far ?up North'!!

    « Decent hotel »

Good location. Nice hotel with comfortable beds. Serves an excellent breakfast. Car park needs sorting out- no marked parking and hectic with people parked all over the place. Used the private dining room for dinner and again, excellent setting. One thing was they messed up 5 of the mains- wrong meals served even though they were pre-ordered. Apart from that great stay.

    « One night stay »

Decided to stay an extra night in York but where we stayed for the 1st night was fully booked the Plough nearby was fully booked so we stayed here for one night the staff were very polite and helpful but the room was small with a tiny cheap tv the cooked breakfast was not good at all hash brown not cooked long enough the black pudding was dripping in fat should always be grilled in my opinion 1 small sausage the cold option was lovely very fresh and tasty especially the smoothies but overall this place is way too expensive for what you get.

    « A fantastic night away »

The better half and I came to this lovely hotel for a night away from the normal. The room was lovely. We had some sandwiches delivered to the room and they were top nosh. This hotel isn't dead city centre but it a very short taxi ride in the centre of the city, which is ideal for us. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely fantastic, everything was nice and hot. Really a great place to stay. I can't fault it for anything. If you get a chance visit this hotel.

    « Fabulous Hotel »

We stayed in the Indian room at the back of the hotel which was really nice, only problem it was a little bit noisy when staff were working outside. The breakfast was fabulous and cooked to order, plenty of other options for breakfast. Plenty of character and a friendly atmosphere as staff were really lovely. The breakfast room is very charming overlooking the garden with the fire lit it was lovely and warm. The car park is free and we got parked with no problem, check in was quick and staff very helpful, hotel is very close to York only a couple of minutes drive.

    « anniversary return »

After been married for our first year we took the 'anniversary package at £150 DBB champagne chocs.. as much as the room as was ok.. the meal quality in the restaurant was average to say the least. we were forced to eat later as the restaurant was blocked out for a party earlier in the evening. The fire went out during our meal, the atmosphere is terrible .. like a mortuary .. sat with coats on eating your anniversary meal.. not the picture I had in my head .. as much as th8s hotel is independently owned it's still BW by brand.. we complained on checkout, several emails over the 2 months since we returned... GM Pauline response terrible, owner Irene response terrible.. sadly we will not return which is a shame .. but when you feel totally ignored by comments made it's not the kind of hotel you would want to return too.. their loss .. York is a beautiful city .. we will stay elsewhere in future where customer satisfaction is important.. would not recommend .. there are plenty of hotels in York.. avoid this one!!!

« Beautiful wedding venue and lovely stay! »

I stayed here for my friends wedding and it was amazing! The venue was lovely, breakfast was divine and the staff were super friendly. The room was well kept, had everything we could need and the bed was so comfortable! Only negatives I had was that it was a little on the pricey side and our room was quite a walk away up some stairs (no. 37) but on the whole I would recommend and would definitely return :)

« Not worth the money. »

Stayed with my husband so we could attend an event together. The grounds were pretty, the building pretty.... And that's about where it ends. Oh no sorry, the shower was good. The room was tiny, and I mean tiny. It was the smallest hotel room we've ever been in. We couldn't pass each other between the desk and the bed, had to take turns to walk to our bag. The bathroom door didn't have a lock on it, but it did a hole where it should have been...affording no privacy to either of us, given you could look straight through it easily. The breakfast was ok. But at £15 each it should have been. It wasn't that much better than a Premier Inn buffet to be entirely honest. The staff were overbearing. A young woman trying to take my plate when I'm still eating, having just stopped to continue a conversation with my husband. In addition it's worth nothing the hotel operates a traffic light system for breakfast dining and you're very conscious of them wanting to rush you. All night I was woken by people walking up and down, I appreciate that's just part of being in a old building but still not a great experience. When we entered the room, of an evening in January.....all the windows were open. Not sure what that was about. Additionally, the receptionist working when we checked in was rude, abrupt and largely unhelpful. Would I stay again? No. Would I reccomend it? Not for that price. I've paid less and stayed in far far nicer hotels.

« great value for money »

Booked this on winter deal. Our room was very small but adequate for our visit. Rooms were clean and warm. Water was always hot for shower. Our room was 26 in the annex friends room 28 was larger with view of garden. The breakfast was buffet continental and cooked breakfast was ordered with quite a good choice. The hotel is located outside centre but is served with buses nearby. About a 20 minute walk

    « Perfect Weekend Getaway »

Stayed here with a boyfriend so we could enjoy the Christmas market, such a lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the service was excellent. Room was lovely and clean, quite a large hotel so a bit of walking required to get to the room, no lift that I know of and there were several stairwell's here and then as it's a historical building. There's a bus stop just outside of the hotel so you can get into the town centre quite easily and to the designer outlet, you can get some sort of family day pass on a certain service for a fiver or so for two people and it covers multiple trips. The breakfast was amazing, full choice of cereals, yoghurts, toast etc, with all the extras then a sit down menu offering full english and other alternatives. Fresh tea and coffee with table service, really worth adding the breakfast on, plus you get to have it in a beautiful dining room or the quirky bar area. Overall this is a really lovely hotel, somewhere for a nice treat and nice quiet and relaxing stay, definitely would stay again.

    « Very good »

Hotel - old but clean and in good repair. Large room comfy bed and good lighting. All expected amenities plus bonus of free WiFi. Squeaky floors and thin walls but not a problem. Bit of a warren to get to room at back of hotel but only minor grumble. Loved all the little extras like the living room area for reading the dailies with a lovely log fire crackling away. Staff - all helpful and smiley. One little reservation was the first mornings breakfast where I was shepherded toward another room rather than to a table next to my colleagues. I noted that I was brought to a room with tables for 3, each with a single occupant? Yet during the time spent others went in and out ( including my colleagues) of the original dining area that I would have preferred. Food - breakfast was ample and lots of choice, but should be at £15 a shot. Full English was very hot which is good, but the coffee was a tad under, even with minimal milk added. Enjoyed the home made yoghurt option though. The evening meal was well priced (£24 for a 3 Course) and the service excellent. The dining area was lovely (open fire again) but a little dark? I think a few more lumens would've helped the ambience not hindered it. The meals here are ample and comforting rather than showy and colourful. The tomato soup starter was lovely, considering you had control of the cream. I noted that everyone in the room commented on how good the bread selection was and the cheeseboard seemed to be a solid favourite. I've been here twice and would commend it considering its position from the town centre, the parking and the pricing overall. I would come here again.

« Good hotel in good location »

We stayed here for 2 nights in the middle of December. Although it initially seemed a bit far the staff soon showed us the quickest way to walk into York down the river. Lovely walk on good paths. For the less energetic the bus stop is across the road and No7 takes you straight into York. I think it was only £1.80, great value. The staff in the hotel were great and gave us a choice of 3 rooms on arrival. We ended up in a 4 poster room with a balcony, although it was a bit cold to sit on. Breakfast way great, freshly cooked, hot and good size too. Over a really good stay.

Beautiful hotel and well situated, only a short drive away from main town. Really friendly staff who go out of their way to help you. Rooms were a good size and very clean. Breakfast was excellent. My sisters a coeliac and there was the option of gluten free bread, so she could have a bacon sandwich. Lovely room were you eat breakfast with a roaring fire making you feel very cosy when it's grey and raining outside. Overall excellent value for money and I would definitely stay again if I'm ever in York.

« Quirky - in the best possible way »

Having decided to spend New Year in York I initially intended to book a corporate hotel but then came across the York Pavilion website ? and something about it ?grabbed me?. So I booked, expecting the place to be a bit quirky ? and so it turned out. However while some hotels could be described as quirky-negative, others are quirky-positive and fortunately the York Pavilion came within the latter category. First impressions were a bit concerning, though. Small dark reception area with a high counter and small opening to receptionist. The trek to our room involved negotiating various corridors, a public bar area, some downward steps, then a flight of stairs, a long corridor and finally another flight of stairs until we reached our destination. (There is no lift). But after that it all started to come good. While the decor was a bit basic our room was, nevertheless, quietly-situated and spacious with a good-sized wardrobe and drawer, and a comfy king-size bed. We also liked the bathroom, particularly the long bath which both my wife and myself being reasonably tall much appreciated. Also there was plenty of hot water on tap for bath, shower or wash-hand basin. The restaurant area is split into several small dining rooms, all of which have a different but equally pleasing ambience. As for the food ? it was first-class, even if the dessert portions were a bit on the small side. Unlike many hotels, our three-night package did not restrict us to a basic table de hote menu but instead we had access to the full a la carte ? which included sirloin or fillet steak (at last on the first night). Needless to say waiting service was excellent. Breakfast (the coffee apart) was also very good ? a superb choice of mix and match yoghurts and cereals while the cooked-to-order hot dishes (of which there was also wide choice) were delivered promptly and efficiently, even though the hotel seemed full or near to full. There is also a traditional, comfortable lounge where guests can relax on sofas after meals. A hotel experience really has to be extremely good for me to award five stars but after this experience I could not give York Pavilion anything less.

After booking an overnight stay with booking.com we arrived to a very friendly welcome from the receptionist, informative and helpful, the room was adequate piping hot water and comfortable. It was on room only basis so can't comment on the food, but for the price we paid we were more than happy.

    « A little disappointing! »

We stayed here for 3 nights to do some Christmas shopping in York, we asked for a quiet room with 4 poster bed, which we did get but it was a little tired, carpet a bit grubby and handle to cupboard/wardrobe came off in my hand. Breakfast for the first two mornings was fine, but on the third I fancied a change from the regular fry up and ordered a sausage sandwich, two pieces of cheap bread with a couple of sausages thrown in, sent out on a cracked diner plate. First night there we ordered a large dry white wine and a pint of shandy from the bar, the barman didn't know how to make a shandy, then charged me £11.50, I did complain but was told that he had no say in bar prices. We had a great stay in York, it is a beautiful city, just wish the hotel had been as good!!

« Dinner bed and breakfast stay. »

Beautiful period hotel. We stayed in room number 9 which is located on the first floor of the original building. A king size room with a large bathroom and in a quiet spot. The hotel is a very popular wedding venue but this didn't impact on our stay. The public rooms are beautiful period rooms and the dining, breakfast and sitting room all have open fires - very cost on a winter stay. The location is convenient for York with a regular bus service across from the hotel. We took a taxi which cost around £6.50. The staff are very helpful. We would certainly stay again.

    « York Pavilion »

Stayed at the York Pavilion over Christmas for three nights with my partner and it was brilliant. It is a nice hotel with lots of original features and friendly staff who really go out of their way to help and make sure your stay is a lovely one. The food is excellent as we had breakfast for the three days, Christmas dinner and even a champagne reception before lunch. The room was lovely and clean with lots of nice little extras, it was also very quiet. This was our first trip to the York Pavilion but will not be our last and I will be recommending to friends and family. If I could say anything maybe a bathroom upgrade, but this is merely a suggestion not a complaint. Thankyou.

    « Mums 80th birthday »

We had a family gathering at the Best Western York Pavillion Hotel 26th November 2016. We were looked after by the events team and dealt mainly with Craig. I took our menu choices into the hotel along with my sister and niece and gave them to Craig. Less than a week before the event I had a phone call from another member of the events team asking for the menu choices? Obviously they had not been processed correctly, I was told oh they must be on Craig's desk. The menu choices would be on the name place cards in order that there would be no mistakes on the day. When I arrived on the day the cards were clearly not done and I had a feeling that they were hurriedly getting them processed while I waited to do the seating plan. They did eventually arrive just before the guests arrived so all fine. The food generally was good, but one of the bowls of soup was cold and the guest was unable to eat it. The vegetables were put on the table and were at best sparse but worse was that they were the vegetables I would do for a regular Sunday lunch, carrots, broccoli and green beans, I would have liked something a little more adventurous given the cost of the meal. According to the guests who had beef which had a supplement, said that it was tough and much was left on the plate. The beer was disgusting? My husband took his back twice and it was still cloudy and tasted terrible. The bar staff told him that there was a problem with the pumps which is really no excuse and as there were many people at our event that would normally have a beer were unable to because of the terrible quality, not really what you expect from this hotel. I did ring the hotel after our event to let them know of our concerns regarding there disorganised events team and our concerns regarding the food and especially the beer as my husband was ill with an upset stomach that evening after only tasting the beer before he took it back. The lady I spoke to said she would pass it on to Craig but he has not contacted me for a discussion and therefore I am writing a review on here. To be fair all in all we had a lovely afternoon and my Mum had a lovely birthday but I would have liked Craig to contact me after I raised my concerns.

« Birthday weekend treat in York »

Where to start. On arrival everything appeared OK very nice king size room but unfortunately it was right above the Party Disco so had to change to a small double. Next problem no hot water for a shower or a wash. This was reported on 4 separate occasions & whilst the boiler was re-booted it never lasted more than a few seconds. Not pleasant taking a freezing cold shower. Next point & whilst we were notified & given an opportunity to cancel the pre booked meal for Saturday night was allocated in the Bar & not the restaurant. The only saving point here is the food & breakfast was excellent but everything else well below standard. We were given a re-fund for the drop in room class & whilst we were told we would get some re-imbursement on the bill as compensation above the difference in room rate we did not & in fact a £ 50 pound discount was actually added to the bill so would have paid more if I hadn't spotted this & only realised when we got home & re-checked the bill we didn't get any additional compensation at all. We were looking forward to my wife's Birthday treat & a long weekend in York considering the reports we saw on this hotel but this was spoilt by the room & shower issues. Will definitely not recommend or use this Hotel in the future & quite disappointed with BW having stayed in many of your hotels without any previous issues. To give a positive the serving & Bar staff were excellent.

« Noisy tatty room, poor service »

Receptionist treated us like second class citizens as we did not upgrade to meals, we were room only, others who did upgrade were spoken to nicely and shown where their rooms were. We had directions snapped us ! Paid 200 for two nights, room only. Boiler made massive racket which woke us up and steam pipe outside window hissing. Room clean but very basic , and tatty . Paint scratched and taps stiff to turn. Was hoping for bit of luxury for the price and hopeful when saw downstairs which is really nice. This was two night trip to spend time with son and his girlfriend before xmas. Had better facilities and treatment in travelodges at half the price

« No heat in the room, and it could not be fixed »

On a six week trip this was our worst stay. Lots of things wrong. Biggest was the fact that the heat in the room was not working. It took 3 phone calls before anyone responded - a manager came to the room, could not figure out why the heat was not on and left. No offer to change rooms and no follow-up. Two more calls and finally someone showed us with a single small space heater and asked - bedroom or bathroom? It went downhill from there

    « Yet another awesome stay. :-) »

Thank you to all of the staff once again for an amazing stay, especially Katy, Abbie, Frankie and Polly. The room was spotless and clean and the food was sublime. After 11 years of coming to The Pavilion, I would recommend this hotel, over all of the other hotels in York. Dave

    « 6 Night Stay »

My wife and I stayed at the Best western York Pavilion hotel for 6 nights. Overall we were very pleased with the stay. There was plenty of room in the car park every day. The hotels location was about a 30 minute walk from York City Centre or about a 10 minute bus journey, however watch out for rush hour, it can add a lot more time on the journey and it's actually quicker to walk. The room was a standard size for a King size bed option, it was cosy and provided us with a comfortable bed, two chairs, desk, bed side tables, wardrobe and ensuite bathroom. Breakfast was done very well and it is easy to understand why it has won awards. An excellently cooked and prepared full English breakfast sets you up for the day. Service was also excellent and the staff very helpful, friendly and not overbearing not just at breakfast but throughout the whole visit. The bar provides a relaxing atmosphere and a pleasant environment in the evenings and the lounge was also a relaxing place to sit relax and have a drink in front of the fire place. The bar staff again were excellent. The menu would really benefit from a few hot food options. As you are a little away from York City centre it would be nice to have the option of some hot food other than at the restaurant. Simple bar food such as jacket potatoes, burgers, chips. The sandwiches were really good however, but it is winter at the moment and these other options would give a more complete bar menu. There were a few concerns but these are not complaints. The room lost a certain amount of romantic atmosphere for us as there were several black and white pictures of male golfers staring out at us as we sat or layed on the bed. Albeit good for the golfing fans that may possibly stay, we found it a bit disconcerting and far from romantic! I would have thought that a more generic style of decorating would suit a larger customer base. If the golfing theme is needed then just keep the room names for those that stay here and visit Fulford golf course. The room was cosy, warm and actually really didn't need any pictures to enhance it. The room we stayed in, room 43, could have done with a small amount of maintenance. Maybe the cleaners can report back to someone if they see any issues. In room 43 the sink plug chain was broken, there were some untidy touch ups on the paint work in the bathroom and the wardrobe hinges made it very clunky to open and close. Not huge issues but it does show a slight lack of maintenance, at least in this one room. From what we saw of the hotel as a whole it was very clean, very well presented and nicely designed and thought out. The lounge could benefit from the furniture being moved around a bit. A whopping great table in the middle seems to be a bit pointless, the wedding paraphernalia could easily be relocated from the table and the chairs moved with more smaller tables organised to make more private 'cubby holes' that are also suitable to sit, drink and eat at. Currently most of the chairs sit around the outside of the room making it awkward to sit facing each other, especially if you would want afternoon tea. The fire place is amazing and we sat very happily opposite it on a comfortable sofa watching the flames and relaxing down from the day. As I said, overall this was a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. To sum up: room good, hotel location good, staff excellent, breakfast excellent, lounge..... just needs rearranging for an excellent, bar good, restaurant excellent, cleanliness excellent, atmosphere excellent. Just a few minor maintenance issues, (which wouldn't stop us from going back), and the black and white golfers pictures for me take one star away, so we rate this hotel 4 stars. Thank you to all the staff for a very enjoyable stay.

« Very pleasant private hotel »

We stayed here for two nights and were fortunate to be able sbook the only wheelchair accesible room which was quite well desgned although the shower was difficult to use and there was some difficulty gaining side access to the bed. The food is good and staff absolutely superb; the bar has good draught beers.

    « Tired »

We had a nice enough stay. The staff were pleasant and tried hard. We had a bit of an amusing Faulty Towers experience with the breakfast supervisor. Overall... a bit overpriced and the hotel needs a really good deep clean, general tidy-up, new carpets and some fresh paint. Probably new mattresses too.

« Music ruined our holiday »

My wife booked our stay some time ago to help in my recuperation from an operation and also to celebrate my birthday. We arrived early but was given our room key which was room 42 on the first floor. Whilst unpacking, we received a phone call from reception informing us that there would be a party held on Friday and Saturday evening and that the music would stop at midnight! On Friday we returned to our room at 11:00 but was unable to go to sleep until after midnight which after a long day exploring York was very annoying. Could things get any worse.........you bet! Come Saturday we were both exhausted after lack of sleep and decided to go to our room at 8. At 8:15 there were screams and expletives coming from the corridor outside. After shouting out from me the noise stopped. Then at 8:30 cue the live band. The bass caused our room to vibrate. I went to reception to complain and after some 20 mins was introduced to the duty manager who was very apologetic. I invited her up to our room to listen first hand to the music. She admitted that it was unacceptable and left to see if there was any alternative accommodation not only in Best Western but in surrounding hotels. A further 20 mins elapsed and we informed that there was no further accommodation available. We eventually got to sleep at 1 am. BW have refunded one nights accommodation as well as three days breakfast and a modest bar bill. Our complaint was handled with empathy and we have received some financial compensation. We really enjoyed our time around York but I'm afraid that BW ruined my wife's treat for me. If you ever stay at The Pavilion make sure that your room is as remote from the ballroom as possible although of course this is no guarantee that noisy partygoers will not spoil your stay

    « Convenbient and delightful »

We stayed for two nights in November and were pleasantly surprised to find that the Christmas market was on in York centre. This meant that the hotel was busier than we expected at this time of year. However the staff coped really well - never showing anxiety or stress. This included a potentially stressful breakfast when everyone came down at exactly the same time. All the staff were thoroughly pleasant but I have to commend the breakfast staff in particular. Also, the bedroom was lovely and the reception rooms were delightful. In addition the bus for the city centre stopped just a few yards away which made the one mile distance to the city centre, insignificant. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Soya milk problem »

A typical best western type hotel. The problem I had was that I had ordered soya milk when booking the room and had also emailed reception as I am lactose intolerant. However, no soya milk had been obtained and I had to wait 35 minutes while someone went to buy some. Breakfast took over an hour. Very poor service from an otherwise good hotel.

    « Comfortable in York »

Our group of 25 elderly pilgrims spent two enjoyable nights at the Pavilion Hotel i York during our two-week circuit of England. We were provided a banquet room for our dinners and breakfasts. The hotel has the charm of a classic roadhouse, with a manicured garden, and exceptional kitchen.

We stayed for two nights to visit the Christmas market and the city of York .I would say that the random choice we make for our stay could not have been better, the staff from the moment we arrived to the time we had to leave were polite ,and very helpful .We had dinner on the 1st night the food and the service was excellent and the breakfast was I think the best one I have had for a long time. Thank you for making our stay so memorable June & Alan

« Good location - great breakfast poor nights sleep avoid room 35 »

We stayed one night to attend the Christmas market as a last minute booking the night before it was the only room left. We are used to this hotel type and the breakfast exceeded our expectations. They were busy but service was friendly and efficient with superb food choices and catered for gluten free well. The ambience of the hotel and grounds were pleasant with parking available free of charge. We were in room 35 which is towards the back of the hotel there is a second staircase after these rooms with 3 further rooms above. There appears to be no soundproofing between these rooms with an old house the creaking when they rolled over in bed and going to the toilet(frequently happened) prevented us sleeping it sounded like someone was walking in our room or the ceiling was of n danger of falling in on us. Tiredness spoilt enjoyment of sightseeing in York with the thought of going home to sleep being more appealing. We did tell reception on checking out to prevent the next client suffering and were told they were full and appeared very aware of this rooms problems. I hope they do look at the floor boards and joists feel we wasted money staying over and would have been better staying at home and catching the train in on the day.

    « Wedding day »

Booked for the wedding and couldn't have made a better choice. Special mention goes Lydia and also to Craig who both stepped in after a change of staff. Lydia could not have been more helpful on the day and any request dealt with quietly and efficiently. Every member of staff couldn't have been more helpful. Presentation of the banquet was wonderful and would fit in any high class hotel. Evening event with hog Roast, live band and DJ went seamlessly and the pork was to die for. Rooms were a joy in a traditional style and quiet despite being near a main road. It has an old fashioned charm with a county house character. Breakfast in the morning was a good selection and comparable to a recent trip to Rome. All in all a lovely pleasant stay and a venue I wouldn't hesitate to recommend for a special occasion Thank you

We stayed in a 4 poster bed room, with French windows opening onto a balcony, overlooking the gardens. The room was beautifully decorated & clean. Breakfast was excellent, substantial, buffet style continental with hot food made to order. The staff were always friendly & helpful. There are bus stops within a 2 minute walk of the hotel, so easy access to the centre, without having to drive. Will definitely be returning.

We Paid Approx £50pppn B&B To Stay Here, Generally Hotel Staff Friendly & Helpful, Location Handy For Central York With Regular Buses Stopping Just Outside.Car Park OK. Breakfast Good. HOWEVER Room Was A Little Tired,Particularly The Bathroom Which had A Badly Cracked Sink. There Was So Much Hair From Previous Guests In The Bath Plug Hole That We Had To Clear It Before We Could Use The Bath. Check Out Was I Think 10.30am (or 11am?), But When We Came Back To Our Room After Breakfast At 9.20am, 2 Members Of Staff Where Already Turning Our Room Over & Asked Us To Wait Outside Until Finished!!! They Then Relented & Let Us In! What Was The Point?? Was It Just A Mistake?? We Stayed In The Room Another 30 Minutes To Pack & Use The Bathroom,Was It To Be Re Done Again OR Did The Next Guest Just Have To Take As Is?? On The Way To & From Breakfast & When Leaving, There Was Bedding,Towels, Electric Wires & Workmans Tools All Down The Corridors A Real Severe Trip Hazard! Sorry But The Stay Was Not Up To The Expected Standard.

    « My daughter's wedding »

We helped our daughter and her fiance choose this venue for their wedding and it turned out to be a very good decision. After a sketchy start whilst agreeing the arrangements(I believe a couple of members of staff have since left), everything was agreed and the day went as smoothly as could be expected. Star of the day was Craig who looked after our every need and couldn't have been more attentive. Don't be put off by his youthful looks- this guy knows what he is doing and has excellent customer service skills. Thank you Craig......

    « proper Yorkshire hospitality »

We arrived mid afternoon, the Reception staff were welcoming and friendly. We were staying for a weekend conference so were in the hotel for two days. The food and service were good, nothing seemed like too much trouble. Not a big fan of feather pillows though (they do need replacing), but overall very good experience.

    4
    « Welcoming and accommodating »

We arrived very early and asked for somewhere to change - our room was ready so we were booked in several hours early at no extra charge. The reception staff were very helpful in getting us across York to a funeral. The restaurant is with a visit in its own right - excellent food and a good wine cellar at a very reasonable price for two. The room (with four poster) was comfortable and quiet. Parking was onsite and free. The full fried breakfast was a treat and filled us up for most of the day. We will be back!

    « Uncaring staff »

Nice room, nice hotel, nice bar. Our first night was marred by an asthma attack brought on by excessive feather pillows and cushions. After a non-feather pillow was provided we were disturbed by noisy guests below until 12:45 when my partner went to complain. The following day we requested that all feather items were removed from the room. When we returned later that day the pillows had all been replaced, but feather cushions had been placed on top of the anti-allergen pillows. The cooked breakfast was fantastic on Sunday morning, but breakfast times here alternate and I arrived five minutes late on Monday to be told cooked breakfasts were no longer served and I would have to go "continental". There wasn't much left and what was there was past its best. The staff here are very cold towards guests, almost robotic. Would not stay here again.

    « Beautiful »

Stayed here on 2 occasion now and have loved it both times... the hotel is beautiful with lovely rooms. The restaurant serves amazing food, tasty and well presented with brilliant service. The hotel staff are lovely, friendly and very helpful, we especially like the lady who seats you for your breakfast. Breakfast is lovely, well presented and has a good choice. The location of the hotel is a little out of the centre but there is a bus service which runs regularly and is non- expressive as you can buy low cost saver tickets. When staying in York we would recommend staying here. We love it...

    « Weekend away »

The Hotel was in a lovely location, an excellent bus service right outside the hotel straight into York, so you had the advantage of being outside of the city but with easy access. Overall the hotel was very good, it had charm and character, it was beautifully clean and well kept and the breakfasts were great. While the food in the restaurant was good it was over priced. Make sure when you book you insist on a room away from the function area, it is busy and very noisy and when we booked into reception we had to make a fuss about not being above such a noisy area.

« Perfect setting for a memorable night »

We just wanted to thank you for all your help with making last night's party so successful. The room looked lovely and the food was excellent. Thank you for accommodating all the odd things we wanted ? and our apologies to the cleaners this morning ? we had no idea the mess the confetti cannons would make. The DJ was still a talking point this morning ? everyone was so impressed with his enthusiasm. Please pass on our thanks to all involved.

    « Beautiful building »

Building looked lovely, I can see why it's a wedding venue. We arrived well before check in time and asked if it was ok to park as we were staying. The car park is small but once you have a space it's quite easy to get to town. Bus stop practically opposite or a 25 minute walk by the river. Check in was easy. Room was a decent size with an ensuite with a bath ( shower over this). Very hot room. Window opened onto a courtyard but you got to hear all the kitchen activity until quite late. Breakfast was very good with excellent coffee. Good choice in food. Menu for evening also looked good but we ate in York most nights. Taxi back was £6 minimal wait but no races on. Would stay again.

    « Not very good »

Room not very clean on arrival. Not serviced on first day. Staff ok but not over helpful. Car park a nightmare, wedding guests get preference over residents. We had a two room apartment. Spiral staircase from sitting room to bedroom was very slippy. Apartment in need of a deep clean. Newspaper ordered but only arrived on 2 out of 3 days.

    « Could be a good hotel »

When we booked a specific request was made for a quiet room. Upon arrival it turned out our room was above a function room. For the 2nd and 3rd nights of our stay we would have been directly above wedding discos! We were moved rooms but in the process, they 'misplaced' two items of our luggage for a hour ! - But they did eventually arrive! Breakfast was good though. You had to be lucky to get a place in their car park. But we did easily get free on road car parking close to the hotel.

    « 5* Food and 5* Staff »

We normally avoid hotel restaurants but the menu read quite nicely so we gave it a go and we were so pleased we did! We both had the chef's specials venison and partridge and we're both seriously impressed so much so that we ate there again the next night! Again we weren't disappointed. Another lovely meal - both had fish this time. Hotel may be a little jaded in places but more than made up by the really lovely staff who were so helpful to my husband. We both had a lovely stay and would stay again. Thanks to all the lovely people who looked after us so well.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was nicely furnished and was very comfortable. Meals were extra, but breakfast was a full English breakfast. Lots of parking although a bus stops outside the front door and well take you downtown to the train station. Everything is a short walk from there.

    « Very dissapointing »

My partner and I stayed in this hotel for a weekend break bed and breakfast. the hotel looked lovely on arriving although parking was not straightforward, no designated bays, you have to find a big enough space and squeeze in. Booking in was fine, we were given the keys to our room and told where it was. Having walked through the small bar/coffee area and along a damp walled corridor we found our room. The room itself was quite small, the bed was so noisy if you moved even slightly. The bathroom needed a good uplift, the shower head was full of rust and the paintwork was shabby. The breakfast was really good but the food in the hotel restaurant was very expensive so we ate other meals elsewhere. Nice 30 min walk into town or buses stop outside for those less able. Local pub just a few doors down. There was a wedding at the hotel on the weekend we were there but it didn't cause a problem. Overall I would have expected a much nicer room for the price we paid as we could have stayed in nearer places for less money. We will not be visiting this hotel on future visits to York.

The hotel location was ok - we knew it wasn't city centre. Room was a little dated but ok. Had to practically dislocate my shoulder to reach the toilet roll holder! Restaurant was ok - nice food but no ambience at all. We felt really awkward! Main gripe was the lack of staff to check us out. The guy was there but wouldn't start 10 mins early! So we had to leave as we has trains to catch. Had to call up and ask for my bill to be emailed to me.

    « Weekend away »

First time in York picked the hotel because it was only one mile away from the city. We've stayed in quite a lot of best western hotels, never get over how drab they appear that said we've never been disappointed. The staff are only to pleased to help we were on the ground floor with French windows on to a really nice courtyard (perfect) after our meal with a bottle of wine. The restaurant was probably the dullest one we've been in but the service was good the food was great . Breakfast was very good ,very good variety sausages are really nice. All in all very nice place to stay and to dine.

« Small touches that mean a lot.. »

Welcoming staff and great ambiance. Very clean. ...but there were little touches that could have improved our stay. No lights working in the bedroom, shower was boiling or off, no menu given at breakfast, expensive mediocre sandwiches for snack menu. I would return but would stay in the main hotel and not in the apartments which seemed to be forgotten even though the rates were the same.

    « Great wedding venue »

Stayed here on bank holiday weekend for a friends wedding. It was fantastic from start to finish. The wedding was lovely, the food first class and the service second to none. The room we had was a four poster bed, very nice and I know it's a small thing but definitely one of the best complimentary toiletries for a long time. Breakfast was lovely and we left very happy after a lovely stay. Thank you to everyone for a lovely experience, would love to come back one day

    « Venue for Wake »

I attended the wake of a family member recently at the Pavillion Hotel in York. It is ideally situated for the cemetery in Fulford. The private function room was lovely, the tables were set nicely and the staff were very helpful and polite. I understand that the cost of the wake was approximately £15 per head, which did of course include room hire and staffing. For this there was a round of sandwiches per head and a jam and cream scone. This was all presented nicely. However upon biting into the scone it was literally like biting into a brick and I could tell that something had seriously gone wrong with the baking process, ingredients or both. It was hard to actually tell what it was supposed to be - biscuit, scone or otherwise. In any event it was inedible. Everyone was very 'British' about it and didn't want to make a fuss, particularly as it was a sad occasion. I would have hoped a hotel of such high standard would not have served something like that, even if they had to buy fresh scones in to rectify the obvious problem particularly when the cost of the function was so high.

    « Convenient hotel »

Enjoyed 2 nights with my family at this hotel. The rooms were very clean and the staff friendly. The breakfasts were very good and the gardens beautiful. Parking so difficult in York was easy here as this hotel has a car park. A great stay.

« Great location and comfortable but could be better »

Booked this for my girlfriend's birthday and we thought this was a great location - the bus stop is over the road and a return costs £2.40 each. We loved being able to pop in and out of town so conveniently. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel acts as a great base for exploring. Watch out for parking as it's limited, this wasn't obvious to me until I received a confirmation email, luckily we got a space but only just. Whilst the bed was comfortable I unfortunately can't say I got a good nights sleep as we were in room 17 which was next to the cleaner's office. They were not quiet and were talking loudly which woke me up both mornings - not conducive to a relaxing weekend away. Most of the staff were lovely and really helpful. However, the manager at breakfast was a little abrupt. I also spotted him speaking in an aggressive manner to one of the waiters - they were slow and not very accommodating but I didn't want to see or hear them being spoken to by their manager like this; it was unprofessional and awkward, especially at breakfast. The breakfast itself was okay, I'd be annoyed if I paid the menu price of £15 but was alright to start the day. They do serve gluten free bread which was a big plus for us as my girlfriend is coeliac. Overall, a pretty good hotel, we enjoyed our stay and it was fine as a base to enjoy beautiful York.

« Lovely setting but smoke was a problem »

This hotel is lovely and we liked seeing the history, walking the halls and staying there. Our second floor room opened to a courtyard. In the evening there were a number of smokers socializing there and their cigarette smoke wafted into our room both Saturday and Sunday nights, which was a small problem but we survived. The breakfast was very nice. Every member of the staff we met was thoughtful, friendly and helpful. The restaurant was nice and we enjoyed out Sunday roast. Despite the fact there were weddings throughout the weekend, we heard no loud noises or even music. Good visit.

Went for a night away with the Mrs in York. The place is too far out of town! Tried using the public transport but found it quicker to walk 30 minutes than take the bus on the Sunday, which ain't great! Would strongly advise paying the extra £10-£20 to be in town. The only bonus is if there's a wedding on the night you stay (which there was for us) then you can nab a plate of food from the buffet, which I certainly did!

    « What a gem »

We stayed here for two nights the weekend of the Ebor race meeting. The location of the hotel in Fulford was excellent both for the racecourse and for York . Race weekend in York is excessively busy and the centre of York after the races is something else in terms of masses of people heading for the bars and restaurants. We have stayed in the centre previously and the beauty of this hotel was being able to return to the area and be away from the madness with some nice pubs nearby . However whether it's race weekend or not I would return to this hotel without doubt and recommend it highly. The grounds are lovely with a private courtyard and lovely spaces around to sit and have coffee or a drink. The building is full of character and the room we had was lovely . It was the Scarborough room and had a canopied bed comfortable seating area lovely bathroom and was very comfortable and pleasant . The staff without exception were friendly professional and helpful. The ambience of the hotel was lovely. We didn't eat at the hotel for dinner but we had breakfast and it was superb. There was a continental selection with homemade goodies knit ...Greek yogurt and homemade compote and then joy of joys a proper freshly cooked breakfast made to order and a choice of the usual full English or kipper or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs etc. Alll freshly cooked and very very good and brought to your table !!! This is a three star hotel and I recommend that some of the 4/5 star hotels that I have stayed in take a leaf out of their book. How nice to have a hot fresh meal instead of some of the sad bacon and eggs languishing on a luke warm buffet. If you are thinking of staying in York definitely look up this little gem!!!

« Great hotel for our lovely weekend stay in York »

The hotel is ideally situated both to the town centre and York Race Course. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights. A 30 minute walk along the river brings you to the York Museum and the start of the town centre. Bus stops outside the hotel if you do not want to walk. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was pleasant and clean. Outside there are a number of very nice 'garden/floral' seating areas. Breakfast was excellent with the hot food cooked fresh. The one evening meal we had at the hotel was likewise excellent. Should we stay in York in the future we will definitely stay again.

    « My wedding »

I had a fantastic experience with York Pavilion. I wasn't sure about this venue when me and my wife first went to visit, but after speaking to the staff and looking around we were very eager to book. Ever since then, the staff have been absolutely amazing! Anything they could do to help, anything that we needed they did. They added beds to our rooms, they answered my calls at any hour and we always had a drink when we needed one. Best of all they were invested in what they were doing. A member of staff welled up during the ceremony which shows how much effort they put in. If I had to sum this place up I'd use the words flexible, caring, people focused and full of enthusiasm. I can't praise this place highly enough. The help and support of the staff made our day, and without them it wouldn't have been half as magical as it was! I'm so glad that we chose this venue.

    « Lovely peaceful weekend »

Four of us stayed at this hotel from Friday until Sunday . We were in York for the Racing . The hotel is situated perfectly for this . We took a lovely walk from the hotel to the race course . It's also perfect for the buses into York . The stops are right outside the hotel for both ways . The hotel was lovely . Calm and relaxing atmospher the staff cannot be more helpful either with advice or service . The staff were also very friendly and approachable and that included all the staff tat we came into contact with which was excellent . We had a room with a four poster bed , and I must say it was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in . All the rooms are interesting to be in with the decor and Pictures . We all loved the hotel and will definitely be going to stay again . Hopefully for a little longer next time . We only had breakfast at the hotel and it was always very nice and hot .

    « Location, location, location. »

Stayed in the Frankie Howard room- lovely view, shame about the intermittent wi-fi. We were staying across the weekend - very close to York, very convenient location to the A64. Only criticism to the hotel itself is the lack of women's sanitary products available. It would have been nice if we didn't have to leave the wedding to go to the pub down the road to buy sanitary products from the bathroom. All staff were friendly except the woman organising breakfast. When we gave our names, she asked us to wait in a residents lounge for a table to be available - no problem - however, when we asked where this was, she snapped at us.

    « Wonderful Stay »

Just returned back from a two night break at this lovely little hotel. Our room was lovely with a four poster bed and very spacious. There was a wedding going on but with so many staff around you did not feel pushed out at all. The breakfast was lovely as was the staff as always. We have stayed at this hotel before this is our 3rd time. Always a very warm welcome. The location is great as you are on the road into the City Centre which is just a bus or taxi journey away which costs around £5. We travelled up into the Dales and the surrounding areas. We love York and will definitely be back. Many thanks

« Pleasant place to stay »

We stayed for one night on a Saturday, on the first floor overlooking the courtyard. It was a pleasant room, and everything was in order. There was a wedding taking place that day, so we were unable to park in the car park as it was full, and it was still full the next morning when I tried to move the car over to load the luggage - we were able to park on a side street just over the road to the left, but beware as I believe some areas are permit parking. We did drive straight past it, as coming from York city centre there wasn't a visible sign for the hotel, just for the restaurant. It was a very hot day, but they had provided a fan in the room, and we used the bar to buy espressos, which was a bonus. Breakfast was lovely, and we sat by the double doors leading to the garden, which was very beautiful.

« Excellent hotel in Fulford, near York »

Had a wonderful 2 night stay. Our room was called Singapore room and was furnished to the theme with bamboo patterned wallpaper and pictures of tigers. Delightfully eccentric. The room next door was called boogie woogie so I imagine that was a disco room! The full English breakfast was substantial and with delicious bacon and sausage, and very good value. You can walk into York or get a no 7 bus. A good base for a York break. Parking is available.

« Handy location to visit York city centre »

Just returned after three night stay. We were given a ground floor room in the courtyard and were more than pleased with the location. The bed was comfy and there was a powerful shower over the bath. Whilst having the usual toiletries and hairdryer, the room also had a fan and an iron and ironing board - really useful and saved having to go to reception to request. The towels were white and fluffy and the bed linen was of good quality. We had considered booking a hotel in the city centre but I'm so glad we didn't. There is a bus stop near hotel and we were into the centre of York with no hassle about where to park the car. (Most of city centre hotels either don't have parking or limited parking on a first come first served basis). This hotel has a fair sized car park and we parked there with no problem at all, even though there was a wedding taking place when we arrived. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We didn't eat in the hotel at night, so can't comment on that. If I return to York I will certainly stay at this hotel.

« Family run hotel with lots of character »

A very busy weekend in York - this was the only room available and we turned out to be very pleased about that! The hotel is quaint - very picturesque. It is family run and great pride was taken in our comfort and our enjoyment of the stay. The rooms are clean although our room was particularly cold being at the far end of the hotel. A heater was provided which rectified this. The cooked breakfasts were excellent and the cold buffet area was amazingly well stocked. The decor is established and not trendy but that does not mean it was of poor quality more like quirky. A lovely stay in a lovely hotel. The walk into York is about 2 miles and takes a good 30 mins. Taxis are easy to come by on the way into town but be aware that taxis back to the hotel can be subject to a long wait if it is a race meeting or a festival is happening in the town center.

« Lovely setting, picture postcard pretty but ..... »

A romantic weekend away with my wife started with a stay at the Best Western. It looks great and ticks a lot of the boxes but something is missing. Picturesque, full of character, with lots to look at however some areas need a makeover and our room needed modernising. Only ate breakfast there (which was adequate) so can't comment on lunch or evening meals. The problem is we didn't really want to stay for food and as I have already said something is missing. I wanted to give this a higher rating and I am sure that others will find what they are looking for but just not for us.

« convenient to city and surrounding area »

Looking for a hotel to explore York City and the surrounding area. This one suited us down to the ground. Room a little small but we didn`t specify so hey. Breakfast was excellent plenty of choice and freshly cooked couldn't ask for more. Downside no lift and no one offered to porter the suitcase also the bar was not very comfy with bamboo type chairs more like you would find in a patio setting. All in all a good choice.

« Tale of two bites »

Pretty good hotel, attractive setting in nice on the outskirts of York, 10 mins by car or 30 mins walk. Good room overlooking a fountain, a little road noise but not intrusive, not compared with the next room shower at 6am, it really needs soundproofing. Best by a long way was the dinner, fillet Rossini, most excellent dinner I have had for a good while, and the wine was good too. My full English breakfast was almost cold, it ruined it for me but I did not send it back, I should have done, I regret that now, they should be told at the time, I guess it was too long waiting to come out. All in all I would return if in the area but would try for a hotel in the city but not likely to return to York as I've seen enough.

    « The flying scotsman »

Came to this hotel because it was just outside York and easy access to the city, lovely family run business, we were given a rather small room on the first night because the hotel was full due to a wedding, after a mention it was no trouble to be put in a much larger and better room, the meals in the restaurant excellent and staff very friendly, also anybody needing a elect car charger in the car park is free to use for residents, on the whole we would highly recommend a stay.

« Comfortable place to stay »

Played golf at Fulford Golf Club and this hotel was chosen because it is conveniently close. The car park is a little snug but there is plenty of room. The reception was friendly and the facilities were fully explained. The weather was hot and humid so the fan in the room was very welcome. Food was good and served with a smile which did make for a pleasant evening. A most enjoyable stay and I would use this hotel again.

« Over night stay on the way up country. »

On our arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome at this old coaching inn. We went to our room that was the Plan Room to find it was quiet and comfortable and overlooked the courtyard bliss. We found the plans interesting to the development of the hotel. We dinned in the former dinning room with a small but varied menu choice, and all well presented and cooked well. A varied breakfast choice that was first class. Would stay here again.

We arrived exhausted, after an 8 hour drive from the Sou h Coast. Were greeted with a friendly smile fro Tracy the receptionist, who kindly checked us in and booked our evening meal in the dining room that evening. Our room was very comfortable and clean with lovely ensuite bathroom, and super shower, all facilities for making tea/coffee etc,

    « Disappointing...Bad Customer Service »

Came in earlier this morning to enquire about breakfast. We weren't staying at the hotel but were passing by so we thought we'd pop in to see if breakfast was available as we were looking for somewhere to eat. We walked in and asked the young man on reception if the hotel served a breakfast for non-guests/members of the public to which he replied " Yeah. ..I think so". He didn't seem 100% sure so directed us round to the restaurant and said " just go ask in there.. it should be alright". Strange answer but we walked round anyway. We then stood for a few minutes in the restuarant waiting to be acknowledged by a member of staff. No sign of one until we were then approached by a member of the housekeeping team ( I know this as she told us) - carrying a whole pile of things and seemed up to her neck in work - who said she would go and get a member of restaurant staff. A young girl then came to us who i assume was part of the catering team and we made enquiries about breakfast again. She told us that the hotel do serve a breakfast usually but we'd missed it as they stop serving at 9:30. My friend and I both looked at the time and it was 9:32. We asked her if there was any chance they could still do a breakfast for us as it was only two minutes after time. She told us bluntly " no as she's ( presuming the "she" referred to is the chef?) has turned everything off now" I thought this was a bit quick of the mark as we were only two minutes after closing and I said jokingly" Well she sounds very eager" to which the staff member sharply replied " Well yes she is eager" ....???? Odd response to a customer I thought. Also bear in mind the fact that we'd spent more than two minutes just stood near the bar waiting for a member of staff. If we hadn't had to wait as long to be acknowledged we may have made it in time. We then left and went up to Ed's diner at the designer outlet where we enjoyed a lovely breakfast and excellent customer service. It's suprising really as I can see a clear difference in the hotel compared to when I had my wedding there 7 years ago. The customer service and organisation then were outstanding and the staff could not do enough for us or any of our guests. Furthermore i also phoned the hotel a few weeks ago to enquire about another matter and the person I spoke to on the phone was very vague and didn't seem to know much about where she worked. It seems the Pavilions standards have declined somewhat which is a shame as I used to think so highly of this hotel.

    « Good »

This small country house makes a relaxing hotel right on a bus route to York making a visit to both historic York and the city shopping easy. Our room was comfortable with furniture that gave it a homely feel. Lots of power outlets for our IT and plenty of hot water for us but the bath did take time to drain. If you rather not eat in the hotel there is a pub a short walk both ways along the road.

This is a great hotel and very nice service. Check in was very easy and friendly. Rooms are nice with just enough to keep you going for the night. It's a old house and it truly beautiful. Breakfast buffet is just the basics needs but then how much can you eat, al the breakfast mains are on order and therefore fresh. Free parking and free wifi. About 15 minutes from the city center. Great stay!

« My dream Wedding day »

If anyone is looking for a Wedding Venue...look no more!! York Pavilion made my Wedding day magical. These are the exact words, sent via email to all involved. I wanted to thank you both from the bottom of my heart, for making my Wedding day so special, perfect and memorable. And although I panicked, last minute, and I couldn't have wished for any better reassurance from Karen, who also made my day magical. The planning and tables were absolutely perfect. And the whole venue fantastic. My only negative was, that the day ended. The whole of our guests were amazed by it all and totally enjoyed the hotels surroundings and found the food, to be delicious. Karen, thank you for everything, with your friendly, professional guidance throughout our day, made it spectacular and something we will never forget. Please ensure that the owners read my email, as they too, must praise the fantastic work you both do. And we hope to revisit York Pavilion in the near future. I highly recommended York Pavilion Hotel.

« My second home in York »

Returned here for the third time, this time for four days. I just love the fact that the hotel has an individual and almost homely feel about it.Very friendly and attentive staff be it reception, bar or restaurant. Good food at both breakfast and dinner. Very handily location for both the City Centre and the main A roads. A ten minute bus ride every ten minutes at £1.80 makes getting into York very easy. Only negative for those who love air conditioning is that the hotel doesn't have any. It was very warm when I was there but the fan and an open window did the trick. Would like to see a fridge in the room as well. I shall return

« Lovely, quaint, country house hotel »

We stayed 1 night for our wedding anniversary after spending the day sightseeing round York. The hotel is set just outside the city away from the hustle, bustle and hen/stag parties that were around the city centre. The setting makes it a lovely quiet location. There is an on site car park for guests. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and dressed in a very traditional country style in keeping with the period of the property. Check in was quick and informative. We booked our evening meal in advance as apparently the dining room can become busy. The dining area is small and personal with a lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious. The rooms are elegantly dressed especially so for a 3 star hotel. There are several garden/courtyard areas which are nice to sit in weather permitting. There was a wedding party and a golden wedding party there when we stayed but as they were in function rooms we hardly noticed them and weren't disturbed by them at all. You can pay more for 4 star+ hotels but if you want a smaller, quieter more personal service I would definitely recommend the York pavilion. The house feels very historic and is much bigger than it appears from the outside. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend it to others.

« Traditional hotel in Fulfird, York »

We needed to find a hotel in York for 1 night to go to a family party. It was the weekend of York Races so many places were either booked, wanted a 2 night stay or were very expensive by usual standards. We found this hotel and read the reviews. It sounded very good so we managed to book directly with the hotel. Reception were very helpful and accommodating of our needs. We arrived to have lunch on the Saturday. This was a lovely meal for the price and in a beautiful dining room. Unfortunately we were unable to book in after the lunch so went on the local bus to look around the Designer Centre10 minutes away. Our room was on the ground floor and overlooked the pretty courtyard gardens. It was clean and a good size with traditional furnishings. Breakfast next morning was varied and plentiful. Hot food was cooked to order. We were very pleased with the hotel. It had a good sized carpark. We discovered Interesting history about John Barry the composer living there and on the Monday a Blue Plaque was unveiled on the wall of the hotel. This was a good find.

    « Lovely Old Hotel »

This hotel is in a lovely historic building, check in was very quick and the staff was very friendly. Room was a little small but the bed was comfortable. It was very warm while we where there but they had a portable fan in the room. Bathroom was roomy and there was plenty of hot water. We walked in to York (1/2 hr) it was a nice stroll. We really like how quiet this hotel was a little further away from the tourist area. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel. We where only there for the one night and had a nice breakfast in the hotel that morning . Serve was a little slow but the food was delicious.

    « Honeycomb, of course! »

I had a lovely stay at the York Pavilion on the eve of a job interview and was placed there by the University, so glad they chose such a charming place. The reception staff were kind enough to accept and hold a parcel for me that was ready for collection at check-in; provided great travel advice before I arrived and had a taxi waiting for me when I needed one. I enjoyed the garden on the left by the bar, with the quirky owl and the new herbs and potted plants and had a great dinner out there on a warm summer evening. I had a simple salad with langoustines and another dish with peas, edamame and sliced radish with cheese curdles - I wasn't sure what to expect but it was finely prepared, well presented and delicious; there was also a mystery flavour which the kind and hospitable bartender (Jack?) let me know was local honeycomb! Breakfast also included fresh chilled homemade yogurt with fresh make-your-own muesli and fresh compote - it's really in the detail, the kitchen definitely shouldn't be underrated! All in all a cosy oasis outside the bustle of the town centre (short ride on bus directly to train station and town centre).

    « Nice hotel »

Arrived early, went to reception to let them know i was leaving my car in the car park and would check in later as we were getting the bus into york, I was surprised when they said the have a room ready if I want to check in now We are in are late sixties the room was up lots of narrow stairs ,with twists and turns. We were in the attic . No wardrobe. saniflow toilet and a really small shower unit ,you do not want this room 16 . Told James on reception and was giving much better room with a bath which I had asked for. That apart my stay was lovely the room was really nice, it's a lovely hotel and the breakfasts are great.

    « Very warm welcome »

I picked this hotel for my two night stay as we had booked up on the northern belle train, Hotel very clean, good menu, red hot water on tap, good food {having said that my lamb was tough} but very tasty the service was second to none and all staff we met were friendly and very professional I had room 19 on ground floor good clean room, but it never is all good ,?? noisy floor boards in room above, yuk, and beds although very clean had seen better days. I would recommend the Pavillion to any one visiting York park and ride just outside gate, and I would certainly use it again.

    « Comfortable and convenient »

Stayed at the York Pavilion after visiting the nearby Outlet village and wanting to spend some time in York. The Hotel was convenient to both with a free car park, only a £6 taxi fare away from town. The hotel is country house style, offering comfortable, lived-in accommodation with friendly staff, spacious dining rooms and good value food. Bedroom was quiet, affording a good night's sleep in a good sized bed. Good spacious shower was a welcome addition. Like happily stay here again

« A little jewel away from the crowds »

We were spending time with family over the weekend so decided rather then drive home we had arranged to stay overnight in York and had booked an apartment. Car parking was slightly difficult as there was a wedding on but my partner is a good driver and managed to get the car parked in a small space. Check in was good and receptionist was very professional and helpful. What a lovely surprise on entering the apartment, it was all one could ask for. Clean, a good size although the sofa bed was a tad uncomfy as a sofa. We had a busy day walking around York and then the National Railway museum and we didnt fancy going to the hotel bar, so we got a couple of beers and watched tv. There was an excellent power shower and the towels were nice and big. The bed was so comfy and if we hadnt arranged to meet the family early I would have been happy to stay in bed later. Although we were in the apartment we booked to have breakfast and oh what a breakfast it was. Set in a beautiful room, with great staff and the choices to eat was fantastic. One thing I would like to suggest, although the living room had a dimmer light switch I would so much prefer a side lamp. Thank you so much for a great stay.

    « Charming York option »

Stayed here for a work related event in June 2017. Number 1 attribute of the hotel by far was the staff - very friendly and professional and above all welcoming. Room was at front of the property and despite being on the main road side of the hotel there was little or no noise from traffic. In the morning there was a great freshly cooked breakfast option and the very generous coffee pot was much appreciated to set me up for the day! As with all Best Westerns it had an intricate but charming layout and each room is unique so it certainly has character. There was a lovely little courtyard area too and a lounge that despite looking like the communal area of an old people's home was very pleasant!

« Nice hotel but not value for money »

Stayed in here for the weekend, 1st time in York. Nice walk along the river into York (approx 30 mins). Very little choice in restaurant so didn't eat and barely drunk due to lack of staff (wedding guests had priority). Room was clean but noisy and had little sleep due to road & wedding guests.... Nice hotel but disappointed considering how much we paid & no breakfast!

    « A great hotel »

The York Pavilion Hotel is situated about 20 to 30 minutes walk along the main road to York and this will lead you more or less to the town centre. It is far better though to cross the other side of the road, walk for about 10 minutes turning left and make your way along the made path along the river. It takes longer, us about 40 mins but a lovely amble. I am sure you will not get many cities with such a beautiful approach. Anyway back to the hotel, where my wife and I stayed for one night Friday the 26th May. Our immediate impression was 'Wow, what a great place for a wedding' only to see a wedding arrival. Other reviewers have left enough excellent pictures for you to get a feel of the place. But what really makes a great hotel is the staff. My wife and I found them wonderful and friendly. The bar area is a nice relaxing area to have a drink, before having dinner in the restaurant. The meal was excellent and I am surprised that the hotel has not got an AA red rosette for its standard. It was that good in my opinion. I hope to go to York again and this is the hotel I would stay in.

« Excellent stay at this hotel »

We stayed here for three nights and had a great time. We couldn't fault the staff on reception or the restaurant staff. The public areas were lovely and the breakfasts amazing. There were lots of shady places to sit outside and the hotel was only a short distance from the centre of York -£6-£7 by taxi. The only improvement would be our room which was a bit tired and the bathroom needed updating. But it was comfy and quiet.

    « Our Wedding »

This hotel was nothing short of excellent! I'm sat here the morning after the wedding and I genuinely cannot think of a single thing that the hotel staff didn't get perfectly right. Anyone who knows me would happily tell you I always find something wrong, well not in this case. We knew our wedding day would always be special but the hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure our day ran perfectly. The events staff (Shannon and Karen) had clearly done their homework and listened to what we wanted in the pre wedding meetings. The venue may have a 3 star rating but that really doesn't do this hotel justice. When we were selecting a venue we visited loads but the instant that my (then fiancée now wife) took a seat in the residents lounge whilst we awaited our pre arranged meeting to discuss options, we were sold..the hotel feels so well run but has a comfortable homely feel. Overall if anyone is looking for a wedding venue or just a hotel for a weekend away I would highly recommend this one.

    « Delightful hotel! »

We arrived a little early for check-in, but our room was ready - a bonus! We were shown to a delightful room on the ground floor with doors leading out onto a terrace which, although not completely private, was a delight - particularly as we arrived in sunshine! The room was on the small size but beautifully decorated and very comfortable - the bathroom also a little "cosy" but very clean and quite adequate. The breakfast was lovely and well served, likewise the two dinners we had - quite delicious on both evenings. The service is exemplary, all the staff very well trained! There is good parking and, although not in the middle of York itself (a bonus from a noise point of view) is on a bus route right into the centre of York. This is a very attractive hotel and would be wonderful for a wedding!

    « Comfortable Quiet Room »

We booked one of the apartments here and found the room to be very quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed the extra room to relax in and to eat our own breakfasts. Location is OK, but a bit far from the walled center of town. Note that the apartments are across the street so it is a little hair-raising to cart one's luggage across the busy road. And the kitchenette is very basic, not suitable for preparing a meal. There is an electric tea kettle but no coffee pot.

    « Wedding and accommodation »

Thank you for a wonderful weekend. The room we received was excellent including an unexpected upgrade. Food all weekend was lovely. 2 tiny criticisms are about the temperature of the room and the scrambled egg. The room despite having the fan going all day and night the room was still tok warm. The scrambled egg was bland and powdery but to the hotel's credit when we requested different eggs the 2nd morning this was provided with excellent service and a smile. The wedding on Saturday afternoon and evening was no exception. All in all a wonderful weekend - thank you

    « What a find for Lunch! »

A friend and I visited the Pavillion for lunch. We were looking out for somewhere to have a light lunch and spotted a sign saying '2 courses £10'. What a revelation! Really good car park. Proper table linen, beautiful setting and lovely, attentive staff. The menu wasn't huge but a really good selection, cooked and presented so well. We were only here for lunch so aren't able to review the hotel but if it is up to the same standard there could be no complaint. We will definitely be here again.

    « Lovely hotel »

Enjoyed my stay here, my first time in a Best Western hotel and would recommend them. Lovely inside and nicely furnished. Good size rooms and good bathroom with excellent shower. Freshly cooked breakfast and good selection of continental. Only thing that lets it down is the scrambled eggs are bought in and not freshly cooked which was disappointing with lovely smoked salmon but would definitely stay again and just ask for a poached egg instead !

« Yet another great stay. »

Again, I have been thoroughly looked after by the staff at The Pavilion hotel in York. A special thank you to Rebecca Hocknull and Amber George, who looked after all of my needs, when I dined in the restaurant, along with the chef, who yet again, provided me with a fantastic meal. A thank you has to go out also to Craig and Tracy. Dave :-)

    « New menu! »

Just finished a two course meal at the Pavillion fulford. Garden herb gnocchi and the oven roast chicken in red wine gravy! Awesome awesome awesome. Chunky chips and a cafetiere on the side. Friendly prompt service in a beautiful surrounding. Honestly couldn't ask for more. And the whole thing comes in under 15 pound. Might have to see if they've a free bed!

    « Return Visit »

We returned to the York Pavilion Hotel again last weekend for an overnight stop for family purposes. This is the 3rd time we have stopped since the beginning of last November and find the excellent people, quality and value for money consistently still the same. We are greeted as old friends, the room was spacious, clean and provided plenty of hot water, The shower was great and the provision of bath sheets was first class. The restaurant dinner was fantastic, try the duck or Sea Bass, a really fine dining experience. The service at the tables is excellent, Thank you to Amber and Sean for their attention to detail. Breakfast was served professionally with a great choice of either a full English or Continental being available. Thank you again for another stay and we look forward to returning again in July

    « Wedding venue - organization - cleanliness standards »

Attended niece wedding on 23rd whilst looked nice as weather great was not really up to standard. There appeared to be no organised timings so sat round a lot waiting for meal to start, then took about hour and half to turn room round for evening reception. When evening food put out in an other room only by chance someone passed by and saw it, same later when cake put out. Worse still was at 7 someone went into men's and found that someone else had soiled floor and spread it all over. This was reported straightaway to reception but by time we left at midnight it still had not been cleaned and toilets still in use. Also booked an apartment no mention at time of booking it was not actually in hotel but across very busy road.

« Nice, well managed, comfy, great atmosphere »

This hotel in a quaint building oozes solid stylish English cosyness. Wonderful breakfast, buffet and full cooked English breakfast with lots of choice. Attentive service. Bit difficult to move luggage from the large free parking space to the rooms, no lifts. Good sleep quality, nice bedding. Bit moldy bathroom, in need of service and a fresh lick of paint.

    « Easter treat »

Booked two rooms for Good Friday just the day before travel. Hotel offered free on sight parking which was important as York city centre is very busy and expensive to park. We arrived approx 5pm and we're lucky to find just about the last available space. Reception was efficient and friendly and we were directed to our rooms on 3rd floor at front of hotel overlooking the main road. No lift available and after impressive panelled main staircase the last set of stairs were narrow and steep but we had been offered help with bags. One room was larger than the other but main difference was height of ceiling, the lower one making the room feel a bit cramped and the wooden sash windows did nothing to keep out the traffic noise from the road. The larger room next door had secondary glazing which helped. Both ensuites were adequate with shower & toiletries and tea/coffee and biscuits in the bedrooms. We walked along the main road into town and then cut down to riverside which was a very pleasant walk - took approx 30 mins. York is a wonderful vibrant city and we returned much later fed & watered to the hotel to comfortable beds & good nights sleep. Breakfast next morning was quick & efficient service & we enjoyed cereals, fruit, yogurt & juices from a separate help yourself area followed by full English cooked to order and scrambled egg with smoked salmon, tea & coffee. The head man who appeared to be in charge made sure everything ran smoothly. This hotel is full of character with several comfy inviting public rooms to relax with the papers etc. Well done York Pavilion hotel and staff.

    « Very nice stay! »

We stayed for one night while taking a visit to York. The hotel from the outside was gorgeous with lots of wisteria and beautiful gardens. Had a great welcome from Matt who was very friendly, thorough and helpful. Matt gave us a recommendation for dinner which we took up and we had a delicious meal at the Yak and Yeti in the town. We had a very large room (no.40) which had views of the lovely garden and also a balcony. The only feedback is that while everywhere was spotlessly clean I found the room and parts of the Hotel very dated. Some of it just looked a bit tired to me and could do with some brightening up like the room we were in. Have to say though that the bed was one of the cosiest ever and both slept like babies. Breakfast options were superb! Such a variety and the breakfast buffet area was fab. Very modern. Overall a great stay but just think the Hotel needs a lick of paint and some extra modern twists to it.

    « Relaxing , Friendly and Welcoming »

Having stayed here before I nonetheless was pleasantly surprised by the warm and friendly welcome , despite being such a busy time of year. The staff were warm friendly and helpful, the room was small but cosy, the bed comfortable and quiet. Despite being above the bar area. The 2 breakfasts we had were well layed out, displaye, fresh and the cooked orders hot and tasty. The coffee was fresh and hot! We used the bar in the evening and again the staff were friendly, with a good range of beers, including local brews. The car parking was adequate and I felt happy leaving my car there safe and secure. We used the bus during the day.!

    « Anniversary stay »

This hotel is clean and comfortable on the outskirts of York. A good 40 minutes walk from the centre which was a bit too far for us when we wanted to stroll around the city and not spend time walking along the Fulford Road which is one of the main roads into York and not especially attractive. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. We were in Aunty Marjories Room which was a superior room. We opted to spend extra and were a little disappointed about the size of the room and the balcony had a number of room leading onto it which made us feel a tad insecure. We booked through booking.com. I would suggest you check the hotel website prior to booking as we could have secured a better deal booking direct. As a result felt the hotel not particular good value especially as there were probably better rooms available at a cheaper rate.

    « Great hotel »

We stayed here for the weekend for my husbands birthday, all the staff are very friendly and welcoming,Our room was in need of a little TLC but other than that our stay was great and we would recommend it to anyone. The breakfast menu is amazing!!! The only negative is that they tried to over charge us for our room but luckily I had my conformation email with us to prove the original price when booking . !!

We visited here for a short break and were pleased with our choice. From the moment of booking to end of our visit the staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. We asked for a quiet room and had one at the back. It was light airy and clean. We enjoyed the breakfast and bar meals. The public rooms are attractive and a nice lounge where you can have tea/coffee and read newspapers. .

    « Fantastic wedding venue »

I visited for a wedding and was blown away by the hotel and it's wonderful staff. It was a very long day with the ceremony at 10.30am but nothing was too much trouble and every need was catered to. The rooms were immaculate and the food was all delicious. The resident DJ was bonkers but brilliant and the whole event was fabulous.

« Always looked after and cared for. »

I've been coming to this hotel for over ten years and they have never let me down. The staff have always been kind, caring and welcoming. The managers Paul and Mark have always made sure that they do the very best, with the challenges that I have set them and the staff and they have surpassed my expectations every time. The rooms I have stayed in have always been clean, tidy and nice to stay in. In the ten plus years I have been coming to this hotel, I have never had a problem with anything and I would strongly recommend you stay in this lovely hotel. :-)

« Beautifully decorated and great customer service »

I found this place randomly and wow was it a great choice. Perfect location not too far from where we wanted to visit and a beautiful hotel inside and out. Very reasonably priced too. Also they do a nice extra of a bottle of champagne and chocolates waiting for your arrival if you have a special occasion. Would visit again.

    « Great place! »

We visited York for our anniversary and stayed at the hotel for two nights. The staff were attentive and extremely friendly. The hotel is tastefully decorated to maintain a traditional feel with a contemporary finish. The room (a converted stable) was perfect. Although not directly in town it's only a 5 minute drive to the centre so you're not overly inconvenienced. Will certainly lay be recommending this hotel.

    « Palacios Pavilion. »

A fantastic experience staying for an overnight at the Pavilion. The building is a magnificent Georgian building. Our bedroom was very spacious, very well equipped with t.v., Coffee making facilities, beautiful, comfortable four-poster bed. The room even had access to a fabulous balcony, which we could not use as it was winter, but it overlooked the garden which in summer must look beautiful. The bar area was cosy, restaurants elegant. The staff all very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was very well presented and very filling. We will be returning.

    « A bit dissapointed »

The hotel is in a lovely old building with lots of character. The team at the hotel were super friendly and helpful. The award winning breakfast was very enjoyable. The bed was comfortable and the room nice and warm on a cold night. The hotel is well located either an easy walk into the York CBD and attractions or on the Park'N'Ride #7 bus which pulls up opposite the hotel. My dissapointment comes from the dirty towel that was in room. The staff were great in dealing with it, taking ownership and apologizing, but ive never come across this problem before.

Went for afternoon tea on the 20th Nov with my mother. Fantastic food!! The manager on duty was very attentive as were the staff. Tea was served promptly, followed by a well presented and tasty afternoon tea! Would definitely recommend. Also, it was lovely to see the owners sitting having lunch and chatting with those having their dinner!

    « Our first visit... »

It was our first visit to York to visit our daughter at university. We liked the sound of the hotel on the website but our stay far out weighed our expectations. The hotel staff are very polite and professional, especially Mark Leatherbarrow our waiter. We were upgraded free of charge to a suite room and were delighted with the old world charm yet modern facilities. The restaurant is not to be missed. We plan to visit in three or four months to see our daughter and definitely will be back.

    « Traditional style hotel »

Stayed here some years ago and enjoyed our stay so decided to go back. Unfortunately for us the weekend we chose was the start of the Christmas markets and so York was very busy. The reception staff were efficient and allocated us room 53 on arrival. The room was quite small but as we were getting it on our points we decided to try it. Unfortunately the central heating wasn't working properly and they had to give us a small heater. The t.v remote too didn't work but it only needed new batteries. That night though we spent a noisy night, when apparently a extractor fan from the kitchen was kept on till 11.50 pm and started again at 6.45 a.m. In addition there were folk clumping up and down the corridor during the night. We were going to go home but asked the hotel if they had another room we could move to. The manager showed us room 32 and we moved there. The room was very nice and quiet. All the staff we met at the hotel were lovely and friendly and we were met every day with a smile from them all . Breakfast was great with a good choice of items and served well. We did not eat at the hotel in the evening so could not comment on the food, but the dining room was nicely decorated. So despite the initial problems we would stay there again. Transport is great, you can pick up a park and ride bus outside the hotel which takes you to the city, railway museums, castle museums etc. They run every ten minutes and are free if you have a senior bus card. York is a brilliant city and has so much to offer.

« Splendid Traditional British Hotel, Excellent! »

Much enjoyed my short stay at the York Pavilion Hotel, a very pleasant and well appointed room with an excellent, powerful shower and thick, fluffy towels. Proper Yorkshire Tea and engaging, polite and hospitable staff. The hotel is a lovely extended, historical house with traditional, period decoration and has a very comfortable layout. There is free parking and free Wifi, although, away from the main building the connection can be poor. The hot breakfast is served to order, I particularly enjoyed the scrambled egg with smoked salmon, the coffee was also very good. In an adjacent room are a selection of cereals, fruit juice, fruit, bread and pastries etc, all very agreeable and something for everybody. A selection of newspapers would have made it perfect. In sum, a delightful, we'll run hotel that would be my first choice on visiting this fabulous, historical city, thank you.

    « RECENT VISIT 10 NOVEMBER 16 »

A first class Hotel , very caring people and the quality of the room , restaurant, food and value for money was excellent. Very flexible to accommodate issues such as a change in our room from originally booked to accommodate facilities to meet my wife's needs eg recovering from a recent major shoulder operation The attentiveness of the people was first class. unable to fault the hotel and whilst there we booked and paid in advance for a further visit in December. .We will certainly use this establishment for all our future trips to York . The management and staff have created a hotel to be very proud for the service and quality delivered, thank you.

« What a difference from my last visit! »

After writing a scathing review after staying at the York Pavilion hotel almost a year ago, I was booked into the hotel again by my company and I'm pleased to announce that this stay was far better; in fact, it was pretty much perfect. The staff were all extremely helpful and attentive (unlike the indifference I experienced last time) and nothing was too much trouble. The room was well appointed and comfortable with a large four poster bed and an excellent shower, as well as tea & coffee making facilities. Dinner was excellent and breakfast delicious. The whole stay was enjoyable and good value for money. The hotel has been redeemed in my eyes and I'd be happy to stay there again.

I took my Mum aged 86 with me when we had reason to stay in the area. I booked a room with a shower cubicle specifically for Mum and I was given a room next door. Staff were extremely helpful on booking, then arrival and showing us to our rooms. The rooms were not overly big but perfectly adequate for our needs. The rooms were clean and bedding spotless. Mum was very impressed with the help she received with her case, etc on arrival. We ate in at the restaurant and had a very nice meal with good portions. All in all a very comfortable stay and welcoming staff and good service. I would definitely visit again. Thank you for the kind attention.

    « Best this year »

We have stayed in five 3 or 4 star hotels this year-three in France, one in Italy and the York Pavilion. The York Pavilion stands "head and shoulders" above the rest; all the staff were friendly, polite and helpful, the accommodation is warm and comfortable and the food , both breakfast and dinner , is exceptionally good. Although not in York, access to the city is very easy by way of a bus service -buses stopping outside the hotel and running every ten minutes (and free if you have a concessionary travel card)

    « York Pavilion »

A lovely hotel full of period features. Very tasteful décor with furniture you would happily have in your own home. Lost a point or two for tired carpet & rug and very squeaky floorboards however this only slightly detracted from a gorgeous room.

    « Four-Poster Bed and Great Food »

First this place is NOT in York but a 10 minute bus ride away. Beautiful hotel with car park that quickly gets full. We had ordered room with four-poster bed, on first floor (no lift). Bed was VERY high, no problem for me but partner was almost too small. Largish bedroom and down a few steps to a large bathroom with shower in the bath. Due to the frequent arrival of groups of varying numbers it was a bit of a lottery of where we ate our meals, both evening dinner and breakfast, but this in fact made it more interesting and quite exciting. We stayed four nights and ate primarily from the specials menu. EVERY meal was delicious but I really recommend the fish. Breakfast was also excellent with a cooked breakfast cooked to order. Just wish they had a wider choice of bread and yoghurt, but that is a personal preference. Staff were all terrific. Highly recommended.

    « Five star service »

We booked this hotel because of its inviting Sunday offer and because we had stayed before. I remembered the warm and inviting lounge and relaxed bar, but the standard of food seems to have shot up! A superb selection at breakfast and a fabulous choice at dinner, which was well presented and tasted even better. The bedroom was cosy and quiet and came with a very good bathroom. All the staff, from reception to the bar and restaurant were friendly and polite and made a one night stay extra special.

« Beautiful, friendly hotel in a good location on outskirts of city »

I visited this hotel with my wife and 10 year old daughter during half-term break in October. Beautiful old building with approx. 60 rooms, free onsite parking, and great hospitality. All staff were very friendly and welcoming without exception. Room was very clean, bed fantastic, breakfasts excellent - but don't go down too late when it's busy. Booked via Booking.com for 2 adults and a child but went through as a double room only. Reservations manager very accommodating in waiving fee for extra bed to meet website's promise, but will book direct next time as will definitely be going back next year to enjoy the rest of the delights of this beautiful city!

« Relaxing and pleasant hotel close to city centre »

Formally a Georgian Country House with lots of history, now a welcoming hotel close to the city centre of York (about 20 minutes walk). Pleasant, clean and comfortable room on the ground floor. Good access to terrace garden and car park. Usual room facilities. Our room had shower over bath, also with disabled facilities. We dined in the hotel restaurant and were offered a reasonable choice from the a la carte menu. The food was very good although the portions were a little small for the price. Service was good and staff were very friendly. They offer an exceptionally good breakfast with the choice of full English and buffet style Continental.

« Not the Best Western Hotel »

We stayed in the Nook which was across a fairly busy road from the main hotel. We didn't know we were going to be there until we checked in. We have stayed in other Best Western Hotels and this was not as good as the others in terms of room space and the overall state of the room was not up to standard, there was a musty smell when we entered and the reason why became apparent when we had a shower, which produced steam and water vapour which did not dissipate for a long time despite us opening the windows. The bed room was cramped, with just enough room to get around the bed and we aren't the biggest of persons. The wardrobe was tiny and was tucked behind the door to the bedroom. One of the windows in he bedroom looked out onto a brick wall and made the room appear darker. Overall not a good experience.

« A great Hotel a shortish walk from York centre »

Had a weekend stay at this hotel . The staff were more than helpful and very welcoming, the hotel was full and very busy,no real hold ups at breakfast as there were plenty of staff on duty the breakfast and evening meal we had were very good. It's a 30 min walk to the city centre along the river bank so great for sight seeing. Room Tip.... we were in 54 just above kitchen and unfortunately the extractor fan starts up early and is quite noisy and vibrates into the room.Other than this we had a great stay.

« Would Never Return Horrible Stay »

Where do I start, arrived and went to room to attend wedding of my partners brother. Came down to restaurant for the lunch menu as weather was horrid so decided not to venture out. Ordered Pan fried Trout to then be served Salmon and whilst this was nice no apology or offer to change the food when we spoke tot he barman. Full price paid. Then went to get changed and a group of us met up in the bar for drinks. The evening was going well and rounds of drinks were being ordered at the cost of £50 to £70 a time which the staff were more than happy to serve and at one point to go and get more of the expensive spirits. The end of the evening came at around 11. I went up to bed whilst partner sat alone in the bar to finish off his drink. He then went to the loo which is off the bar, when he came back his drinks had been removed. He asked where they were to be told they had been cleared. Obviously he asked for them to be returned so he could finish them or take them up to our room. The barman was very rude and refused. My partner argued that we had paid a lot of money for them and he would take them up to the room. At that time another member of staff standing in the back ground went away and within a very short while the police arrived. The staff then lied and told the police my partner was not a resident at the hotel and asked for him to be removed. The hotel was more than happy to take our money but to then lie to a police officer is beyond belief. My partner was then allowed back to the hotel once I had confirmed we were residents only once I had come down to ask where he was after he didnt come to the room. After being treated in this way and no apology received we didnt even stay for the wedding and checked out. Was told by the owner of the hotel she would look into it and come back to me but heard nothing. Any one booking a wedding or event here should be aware they are happy why you are spending money but their level of customer care is something to be held in question

Just stayed for 2 nights with 3 other couples - all of us had 4 poster beds - all rooms were lovely - ours was the biggest but all more than adequate. Staff were very friendly and we had excellent service - there was a bit of comedy and interaction between our group and the staff which so much helped for a great weekend. Food was excellent. Nice walk into York along the river so was a excellent hotel in an ideal setting. Good range of drinks including a good local ale. Thoroughly recommended- a big thank you to all the staff for helping to make a fab weekend. BJ

If scoring from 10, this would be a 9. Only dropping points because of noise. More later. Stayed two nights arriving 14 September 2016. Had stayed before. The car park is probably best described as "quirky", but we've always found a space. A warm welcome, and throughout our stay the staff were friendly and approachable. Only ate breakfast in hotel, but very, very nice and a huge choice. Managed a table at French windows both mornings. Nice outlook to garden. Cask ale was off during our stay, but not a huge issue. York centre is within easy reach. Buses stop outside hotel, or a pleasant walk along the river. About 30 minute walk in our case -- both middle aged. Back to noise issue. Not a huge problem, but this is an old building. We could sometimes hear noise from surrounding rooms. Taps running, toilets flushing, loud conversation. Not horrendous, but if you feel it would really irk you, be aware of it. Hoping to return to York in future, and this would remain first choice hotel for us.

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel in a self-contained suite situated across the road from the main building. This is a charming place with polite and attentive staff. We ate one lunch and one dinner in house and enjoyed both meals. The suite was small but adequate, containing everything that was required. The problem I had was the mattess; it was saggy in the middle and the springs could be clearly felt through the top layer of padding. I raised this with management (Paula) who said the hotel was in the middle of a soft refurbishment but she didn't know the mattresses in the suites needed replacement. Our mattress was "swapped" for another one which was only marginally better. This means, of course, that another unsuspecting guest would soon be in the room with the bad mattress! If you want to stay at this hotel my suggestion would be to check if your reserved room has a new mattress. Really, for a business whose main concern is providing accommodation, bad mattresses represent a cardinal sin.

    « Disappointing Stay »

I visited this hotel while away on business, and expected good things from the outside. The check in procedure ran smoothly and the staff were helpful. I was allocated room 63 which is the 'Singapore Room' which was one of the hotel's cottage rooms next to a lovely courtyard. However the room itself was unfortunately a different story. As I entered there was an immediate strong damp, musty smell and the room was dull and dated. There were a number of stains on the beige carpet around the desk area and there was no remote control for the TV. The room was also freezing cold which apparently a lot of guests in other rooms had also mentioned. The rooms by the courtyard have the potential to be really lovely but appear neglected and very dated. Such a shame as this area of the hotel could be a real feature.

Overall I enjoyed a lovely one night stay. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds. Rooms are lovely traditional rooms. At little tired in decor but very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms warm and no noise from the traffic. The food for the evening meal was lovely although they forgot our coffee when it became busy. Breakfast although the food was very good and an excellent choice of menu, the service was not very good with the waiters/ waitresses not appearing to be organised and have designated tables or system of working. The biggest delay was during check out Adam who was one reception was trying to settle everyone's bills single handed whilst answering the telephone. Would stay again.

Had a lovely stay except for breakfast first morning not very hot, bacon very underdone. No inter-action with us from any of the staff, carpark was too small to accommadate clients cars. very busy as there was a wedding on.

    « Wonderful discovery »

We booked this hotel as we wanted a base to visit York, Beverley and Whitby. On arriving, there was plenty of off road parking and the hotel looked so lovely. It looked like a large mansion, and it turns out that is exactly what it used to be. In fact, I was gobsmacked to be told that John Barry (one of my favourite composers - he wrote the theme music for the film Somewhere in Time - a wonderful piece of music) had grown up there as his family had owned it. The hotel is classic with wooden floors and large doors. The staff were polite and helpful. We ate in the restaurant, and the food was beautifully presented and and delicious and I wold be happy to recommend eating there. If you like ultra modern and bright, this is not for you. If you want to step back to a bit of Downton Abbey, you would love this place. Enjoy!! We did.

    « Charming wedding venue »

We stayed 2 nights for my son's wedding. The venue has character and the courtyards are very pretty. The food is outstanding, and the wedding planning service was very efficient. The staff were friendly and generally helpful, and we found the chambermaids very sweet too. If you look closely, especially in the rooms, I would describe it as old style elegance that is a little frayed at the edges. Think 'shabby chic' in places. My biggest issue was that the room included a single bed for our daughter that was clearly meant for a child no older than 10, when she is a 5ft9in 16 year old. But it was a very pleasant stay.

« Room furnishings in need of a little TLC »

Stayed 4 nights in a good size room facing the main road. The double glazing and extra thick curtains kept the traffic noise at bay. In fact the room was very quiet even though the hotel was full. So we both had a a good nights sleep. There was some wear on the room soft furnishings, giving the hotel a warm lived in feel! There were only two negative points:- Firstly there was no heat to the en suite towel radiator so towels tended to be damp in the morning. I did ask reception if something could be done, no heat be fresh towels. I guess in these older buildings heating is a challenge. Secondly I felt the evening menu was overpriced by 15% or so. Hence we choose to eat in the local Pubs for all but one night. Breakfast was good with a wide choice and freshly cooked food, I would recommend the kippers ! Overall an enjoyable stay, but not quite a 5 star rating.

    « Wedding ???? amazing day »

Our son and daughter in law had their wedding reception here at the Pavillion. We where all warmly greeted with a glass of fresh orange for those not drinking and children and fizz for the rest of us..... always a good start to the day. We even managed to get plastic cups for the grandchildren so they didn't drop the glasses... again a nice touch. The hotel staff especially, Mark who looked after us where amazing. They all went the extra mile to make their wedding day extra special. Mark was a big hit with the grandchildren they loved him, he made a fuss over them which was really nice to see.?? The room for the wedding meal was beautifully presented, down to all the little details, the weather even played ball we had beautiful sunny day. So we were able to make the most of the wonderful garden area. The food was wonderful to, the portions sizes were very generous to, most of the guests struggled to clear their plates, but we all gave it a good go though ?? The day soon turned to the evening party, again the room was very well presented. I know Emma had a say in the decoration but the staff still did a good job making it look perfect for her..... the DJ was another big success he had people up dancing most of the night, he was great with all the children too. He even had a dance off for them which they all loved so well done.... he had prizes for them all too. The bar staff where kept busy day and night, they were friend as well as efficient a The whole day from arriving to leaving was fantastic . Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of their special day too ?

    « Weekend Away »

Arrived around 9:15pm Friday night, car park was virtually full. No lines so many cars parked taking up 2 spaces. However, after signing in, they were kind enough to find us a spot. Car off loaded and to our room. More later. Both of us very hungry, had the choice of waiting for a table to be cleared or eat in the bar area. We choose the bar area. Small bar, dozen or so tables, easy to sit at. Ordered our meal, beautifully cooked and we accompanied it with a bottle of red. To our room, 4 poster bed and well appointed. Iron and ironing board along with fan TV, kettle coffee and tea. Hasten to add, we didn't use the iron. Repeated the experience again Saturday night, this time in one of the dining rooms ( there are 3 as far as I could tell) . Overall our stay was very comfortable and we would repeat our stay again at the hotel. If I was to have a small grumble, is the reception area. 2 small windows, and is easily not to see a waiting guest. They really ought to join the windows together. The hotel is a grade 2 listed building with plenty of character. The staff are very well attired, professional, efficient, friendly and polite.

« Let down by the dining »

I'd stayed here previously and found it thoroughly charming and pleasant and had a exceptional meal, but on this occasion I was unlucky to find the small restaurant booked up with large parties, no meals being served in the bar (with no explanation), the draught beer off, and a general air of the solo business traveller being an inconvenience rather than a welcome guest. Otherwise it's potentially a wonderful snug venue in a good location. My room was small but comfortable. Parking is a bit chaotic (part of the charm?).

    « Lovely cosy hotel »

We stayed here while being in York for the world ploughing championships. It is an older hotel with alot of character with lovely leafy surroundings. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and cosy. The food and breakfast was very good. If I was to find a fault it would be with the parking. It was limited and we struggled to get parking for only one night of our stay as there was a wedding there both nights we stayed. Would highly recommend and will stay again.

    « Afternoon tea »

Visited this hotel during the week for afternoon tea. Lovely old building. Afternoon tea was fantastic with plenty to eat, so much so that we couldn't finish it. All staff were very attentive and extremely pleasant. Made us feel most welcome. Many thanks to the gentleman who served us.

Beautiful hotel, lovely comfy bed. Couldn't fault the grounds. However breakfast was slacking in the standard of the hotel. Scrambled eggs really runny real shame. Staff really nice, warm welcome upon arrival. Would stay again!

We stayed here as our treat to ourselves having not been away from the children for more than a day in 14yrs. The staff here are the best we have encountered on any of our holidays and a true credit to the hotel. The rooms are lovely and the courtyard beautiful. We had an issue with noise from above waking us very early in the morning which was disappointing having been relieved of parenting duties for the weekend! The staff immediately offered us complimentary dinner which was a nice thought. Unfortunately there wasn't enough space for us to eat in the restaurant which was a real shame and although the staff were lovely and seated us in the bar area it wasnt really the same eating dinner with wedding guests drinking around you. The hotel itself is beautiful and well cared for. The gardens are lovely and although i have seen reviews complaining about weddings i can honestly say there was no noise our side and they do a fantastic job of separating the 2. We were in room 20 and across the courtyard from the wedding but we were not affected by any noise from it. The breakfast is really good and the lounge bar very reasonably priced. I'd definitely recommend afternoon tea and the coffee is so nice we have ordered some! If your looking for a lovely hotel with superb staff you wont go far wrong. Dispite being woken early and eating dinner in the bar we would still return. I can only say this is due to the lovely staff employed here, i cannot speak highly enough of them.

    « Formal Function »

I wrote a review of this Hotel on 25th September 2015, a review with regard to my son's wedding and writing now a review of my step son's wedding held at the end of August. Much of my previous remarks still hold. It is an excellent location for weddings' and highly recommended. In addition this year the menu - which was a repeat of the previous year was presented with far more finesse than before. I was particularly pleased with the professional skills shown by the Major D it was slick all round. Staff excellent again, bar far better run. Only grump and its personal any way poor choices of beer :-) pleased to have this review.

    « Birthday trip »

Stayed at this hotel for three nights. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room excellent with super king sized bed which was great. Food was really good, good breakfast selection on offer too. Gardens were really pleasant to sit in with a quiet drink of an evening. Popular wedding venue so might be a good idea to check room is away from entertainment, although this ends promptly at midnight if there is a wedding celebration taking place. Free wifi. Ample parking which was great as bus service was good to town. Hotel is actually main street Fulford. On bus route into city and takes about ten minutes to either Picadilly or Merchant Gate. Also to designer outlet mall in opposite direction again about ten minutes.

    « Great Service »

We stayed in the main body of the hotel, as opposed to the apartments across the (very busy) road. Clean and comfortable, although the room was very hot. Staff friendly and helpful. Prices vary by the day when weddings are happening. Food at breakfast and in the restaurant at night was appetising and well and swiftly served.

    5
« Hard to fault for comfort, service and location. »

We booked a room in a building across the road from the hotel with some reservations. In fact, it was a superb bijou apartment with sitting room, fully equipped kitchen with bedroom and bathroom up a spiral staircase.Luggage was taken over the road without the need to ask - a measure of the excellent service given for the four day stay. Handy for the city with a bus stop outside the hotel - free parking on site more than made up for fares or the high cost of parking in the city centre. We have stayed at the hotel before and will be more than happy to return and to recommend it friends. We always ask for a quiet room but the hotel is generally a haven of peace apart from when a function is taking place.

    5
    « Another great event. »

I was here for a wedding and what a great venue it is. The building is located on the A19 close to the bypass. Car parking is free which is a great advantage. The staff are efficient and friendly. If you are consideribg an event in thecareacI would recommend you consider here.

« Lovely hotel, ideally situated. »

We stayed here for a weekend away in York. The bedroom was very clean with a beautiful four poster bed and opened onto a balcony. Ate in the restaurant one night, the food was beautiful and the service was excellent. In fact all the staff were very friendly and helpful especially Adam on reception. The only down side was there were weddings both Friday and Saturday which meant noise from the disco went onto midnight. This was quite loud due to our room being directly above it, so would ask for a room away from this if visited again. The hotel is also well placed for York centre, the racecourse and York outlet. Would definitely go back.

    5
    « Great spot »

We booked 2 nights,21/22.August. We were told that there was a wedding on the 21ts.with a disco until midnight. It was absolutely no problem. This is a lovely spot, and it does have the feel of a Country House Hotel. Lots of space inside for sitting and reading,no-one bothers you and you are free to come and go as you please. Perfectly placed for York centre. We parked our car in the (ample) car park and left it there for the duration of our stay. The Park and Ride service is great, with the bus stop just on the Hotel doorstep, not literally. A very pleasant room with a balcony and french doors out onto it,looking over the garden. There are 2 areas for breakfast,so plenty of room.Big choice of food, but I never get past the cooked breakfast myself.Mmmmm..bacon A very stylish Hotel, with a perfect location for easy access to York centre. Highly recommended. Professional, friendly staff.

« One to go back to »

The Pavilion tries very hard and succeeds. The location is good - close to Park & ride ( who wants a car in York? ). The building is attractive, the accommodation memorable - each room distinctively and very comfortably furnished, Staff friendly and efficient. Restaurant - and all other facilities of the highest standard. Car parking can be a problem for late arrivals - were and just squeezed in (but they did warn us). Definitely recommended.

« Cancelled out of principle »

Planned a 2 night stay in York for 26th and 27th August. I called ahead, directly to the York Pavilion to check that they did not have any weddings booked as we wanted a quiet stay. The receptionist said he checked the diary and informed me that there were no weddings booked in. Therefore, went ahead and payed my £340 or so on late rooms, only to receive an email 3 days later from the hotel, advising me of a wedding, and possible noise, requesting I call to ask for a room away from the party! Outrageous! I called the reservations manager today and whilst he was very friendly, and offered a room away from the group, I expressed concern about why I was clearly misled. I am sure that the hotel does not book weddings a week before the bank holiday weekends, and they are planned well in advice, surely the receptionist would have known if a wedding was on or not Very disappointed Best Western, I have cancelled my reservation out of pure principle.

Lots of stairs, no elevator, close to city bus stop. WIFI a waste of time. Nice garden, but a request not to walk on the grass. Nice looking outside. Reception difficult to wheel cases because of rough pebble forecourt.

Booked this hotel using Booking.com about 4 was ago - pleasantly surprised to actually find a hotel in York so late & for just one night. On arrival at 12.30 we left our cases with the reception staff who were incredibly helpful & provided helpful advice on how to get to the races using the buses. After returning from the races we enjoyed rested in our room which we had upgraded - it was lovely with triple aspect Windows and a 4 poster bed. That evening we ate in the hotel as tired from the races - the steak was cooked to perfection and again the staff very accomodating. We enjoyed the lovely gardens in the hotel and the cosy feel of the hotel. The next morning we had a fabulous cooked breakfast and buffet. Overall really enjoyed this stay - lovely area of York. Unfortunately unable to book again for next year as already fully booked.

2 night stay (Sunday / Monday) great room ,( Singapore room), warm welcome, spotlessly clean, excellent second to none breakfast, wasn't quite sure what to have ! So much choice, all fresh. « Good in Parts »

The hotel is bit tired but very clean and our room was fine in general. We had an evening meal which was very good. This tempted us to also have breakfast. Big mistake. No available tables so we were pushed from pillar to post. Our full english took over half an hour to come after ordering with the result that the tea and coffee were both cold. The bacon was extremely tough and over cooked. My wife's was inedible although I struggled through mine. My biggest complaint was the room door. There was a good 10mm gap between the door and the frame with the result that it was impossible to lock and obviously must have been a problem for some time. I spoke to the male receptionist at 16.00 and again at 18.00. Nobody even came to look. To make matters worse our room was the first one in the annexe meaning that anyone could access it from the car park. I had to lock our valuables in the car and keep my fingers crossed that no one tried the door. To keep my wife happy when we went to bed I put a chair under the handle!

Lovely manor house type property tucked away on main bus route just on way out or York on A19. Interesting hotel with small intimate garden areas and court yard. Normal size standard room overlooking tidy little garden with usual facilities plus well dressed bed with lovely sheets. The staff were friendly and helpful who attended customers in a fine manner. Book again ....but of course. Oh and great sandwiches.

We stayed for a stop over on our way to Northumberland. What a find! clean and comfortable hotel. We enjoyed a walk along the river to the City Centre, returning to very comfortable rooms and strong hot showers. We ate in the restaurant here and it was amazing. The Queen room was lovely and spacious, we were upgraded and this was a very pleasant surprise...thank you for a lovely stay.

« First trip to York »

Our first time in York and first time away on our own in many years. Lovely quiet location just a short journey into York. We initially stayed in room one, a nice cozy room with a very comfortable queen size four poster bed. Unfortunately we couldn't open the window as there is a birds nest outside it. If window was open the birds were very noisy would try to come into the room. A fan was supplied to cool the room - it wasn't brilliant but it didn't spoil things. During our stay we became engaged, when staff found out they arranged for an up grade to room 3 the bridal suite for our last night (at a very reasonable price). This made our stay even more special and we will definitely be returning again following our wedding later this year. The staff were all so friendly and approachable however we would like to say a special "Thank You" to Kirsty, Tara and Karla who were fantastic and made us feel so welcome.

My wife and I stayed for a night at this hotel on the last leg of a long and enjoyable drive through England, Wales & Scotland. Very helpful staff, Room # 3 was excellent, great breakfast, plenty of free parking, wonderful walk to town center from the hotel along the river bank

« Carried by the Staff »

This is a standard Best Western. Decent breakfast, Free Wifi (when it accessible). Like many best westerns the building and rooms are reasonably tired, the decor approximates that of something decorated 10 years ago. Communal areas are a bit freshers! The parking is in a gravel car park round the back, if this was laid out better then they might be able to fit more vehicles in, but if you are returning late then you might struggle to fit it in a space and just have to abandon it next to a hedge. The breakfast was substantial with the buffet options being a mix of fruit/cereal/patisseries and a wide selection of cooked products to order. The one super positive about this hotel is the staff, they cannot go far enough to help you. Can we have a meal for a 8 in the restaurant? No but we will rearrange tables in the bar for you. They always presented food with a smile and a good sense of humour. They fixed any problem our party had. Noise maybe a problem if the people in rooms to either side or above move around a lot in the night.

« My daughters beautiful wedding. »

My daughters wedding was held on 22nd may 2016, we had booked 2 years in advance. The wedding coordinator kept us constantly up to date and did a marvellous job from start to finish. The actual day was absolutely fantastic, the staff were so lovely and nothing was to much trouble for them. The building and gardens are beautiful and an ideal wedding venue. Our wedding breakfast was amazing the food was faultless. We stayed over night and our room was spotless, beautifully decorated and we had patio doors which we threw open to take in the lovely garden below. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, just wish I could enjoy it all over again.

« Lovely hotel, great service, great location »

We loved this hotel, beautiful, wonderful service from all staff, clean and walking distance (20 ish mins) in to York city along the river. We had a superior room with four poster as it was a special weekend. At first we were unsure of the decor theme (old fashioned fishing with fish wallpaper) but after a short time of looking around it all we decided it was a great touch - i understand all the rooms are different. We will definately stay again if we get an opportunity to revist York

« Super hotel in York »

I managed a very good on-line price for this hotel at only a few days' notice, and really wasn't expecting much in the way of charm or quaintness from a Best Western. Big surprise! Lovely old building fronting the road, big carpark, lovely gardens, outstanding reception staff (Polly, you know who you are!!), and such easy access to the centre of York. A bus right outside the door, a sort of mixture of a hop-on hop-off bus with an ordinary local bus, conveniently returning from exactly the same place as it drops you off. Cheap, fast and frequent. The room was fine, perfectly quiet, and we had dinner in their bar, good food, excellent service and reasonably priced (by English standards). Polly had offered us a special rate for breakfast, which was excellent and worth it at the cut rate. Hotel breakfasts are so ridiculously over-priced, they really have to be outstanding to make you feel you've got your money's worth. Happy to recommend this hotel, and to stay there again if I'm ever back in York.

    « A stay of 2 halfs »

Day one, pleasant staff couldn't do enough for us. Day 2 staff abrupt and unhelpful. Lovely hotel clean and welcoming. Room 43 far too hot even though it wasn't particularly hot outside, found a very dusty fan in the cupboard but it was too noisy to leave on at night. The lighting in the room was very dull, you couldn't work or apply make up. I didn't complain because I didn't think there would be a solution to the problems.

    « Perfect wedding »

We were married at York Pavilion hotel on June 25th. Many of our guests stayed the evening before to settle in. Couldn't fault the hotel at all. Daisy and Zoe (coordinators) helped us plan the big day with every detail taken care of. On the day Paul was amazing, it was a comfort to have someone so competent and experienced, he made sure everything ran to plan without a hitch with Natalie and Shannon on hand and all of the staff who were friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic, the DJ got everyone dancing and there was a great atmosphere as well the hotel arranged and took care of other suppliers and deliveries. The day after we had a lovely breakfast with family and friends. Would recommend for anyone considering a wedding here. Just want to thank all of you again, it was perfect! Jon & Michelle Jackson

Hope this says it all: Just a note of appreciation to thank you very much for the lovely stay we had this last weekend. All of our 32 guests commented on the attractively furnished hotel and rooms; the meal on Thursday night was excellent; and above all every one thought the staff were superb and went the extra mile to accommodate all our wishes. A particular mention to you yourself Matthew, for going out of your way to make a special event go so smoothly and even more memorable. From the lovely welcome to the last goodbye, it was an outstanding experience. Please feel free to pass this message on to Irene and all the staff at the hotel.

Stairs were a bit tricky as we had a lot of luggage while travelling we were very appreciative of the nice young man , bar staff I think, who offered to help and carried luggage up. However bed was comfortable and room was okay for one night. However we were very happy with the dining room and the excellent breakfast in pleasant environment. Service was excellent and super fast.

    « Not what I thought I had booked... »

Spent one night here on business, on check in seemed to wait ages whilst dealing with people in front of us, even though there was another check in booth. Finally got checked in to be greeted by a nice lady and then to be told, I had booked room only and no breakfast, which surprised me for what I had paid for one night. Breakfast was offered but it was only available at an expense and a certain time limit considering I had to be away from the hotel early morning because it was a weekend!! Was given keys to the room and directions which did not add up once getting to the room as felt I was pushed out of the way and miles away from the entrance. It was like the krypton factor upstairs, downstairs, around corridors to be honest, needed a rest by the time I got to the room. Bed was uncomfortable and didn't feel rested and were wishing I had booked elsewhere. Parking is very limited and the shrub overgrowth does not help when this could be cut back to offer more spaces. Having stayed in other Best westerns before this was the worst I have endured so far. When reading the hotel welcome pack, one finds it to be suggested that you get to a breakfast early as there is limited tables and at weekends guests are sluggish to leave, I passed the breakfast area at 7.30am and there was nobody there.... I booked this hotel based on reviews and must say looking more closer it seems they favour wedding guests and business guests are treated differently.. I personally wouldn't stay again. Only plus it is close to the A19 and A1 but also quite a distance to the town centre if you are a client on business or a tourist

    « More than 3 star definitely »

We enjoyed a recent weekend stay for a wedding and this hotel gets nearly everything right. Pleasant and helpful reception staff , smart bar with a lovely real ale ,comfortable room in a lovely courtyard with Japanese theme to the planting ,good choice for breakfast ( the kippers are strong tasting proper kippers - not for the faint hearted !) .As with other hotels on Sunday morning the breakfast area gets too congested ( out of tables) if you get up later. A short taxi ride into York but it's essential to pre book your return or face a very long wait late in the evening .

    « Deserves more than 3 stars »

We had booked two rooms and both were very nicely furnished, clean and comfortable. The grounds and nooks and crannies were a delight and the hotel had many varied seating areas. We received a very friendly reception and all the staff were most helpful. Breakfast had a wide selection on the menu and was freshly cooked and served quickly by friendly staff. Our only gripe was the Jazz background music- why do hotels think guests want to listen to that first thing in the morning? Will book again if playing golf again at Fulford (5 minutes away)

« Lovely hotel, full of character »

1st time at this hotel, having visited York on many occasions. First impressions were good, but felt that this type of accommodation was not for us. However, our room was lovely, maybe not as sleek and shiny as some of the other hotels in York, but very clean and perfectly adequate. Free car parking, and free wifi throughout, which was great. Breakfast was really impressive, and the waiting staff were attentive and friendly. Great selection of both hot and cold food. Nothing was too much trouble. We really warmed to this hotel , especially the little courtyards, fountains and gardens. All in all, a little treasure, and we will definitely return.

    « Congratulations and thanks. »

I have missed some family weddings and events at the Pavilion in the past, due to illness, but having finally attended a function, my brother's wedding, I have to say how very, very impressed I am by its whole ambience, the food and service was of superb quality and the staff were well trained and extremely professional. You made an entire party of family and friends of all ages and backgrounds very welcome and our congratulations and thanks to all concerned. Definitely highly recommended 5*+++++

    « Disappointing. »

This was our fourth stay and one from which we are still recovering. Room 15 was the short .straw.. The open window on our arrival there should have been a clue to what was to come! Hot, stuffy and with unbearable traffic noise, sleep was impossible. And the midnight news bulletin from room 14's television ensured that we are spending the following days recovering from jet-lag. The night porter's offer to bring up a fan at 1.00am did not impress! And how about the food delivery truck, complete with reversing beeps, below our window at 5.45a.m? Our experience was completed when it had not been recorded that we had ordered our over-priced breakfasts. We were too tired and angry to eat them in any case. The compensatory free evening meal offered was pointless - we needed an early night!

« Amazing break in an amazing hotel »

The room was lovely, comfortable, had plenty of amenities, lovely shower, bath, bed was so comfortable. Room tended to get a bit warm at times but there was a fan provided to keep you cool, it could of had a extra setting on it though. Even had an ironing board, iron, hair dryer, basically everything you needed. The gardens were lovely and inviting, very private. The staff at the hotel went out of their way to be helpful 10/10. Everything was very well presented. The continental breakfast and assortment was out of this world, something youd dream of at a paradise hotel in the bahamas. My partner and i are already planning a 2 week holiday here as the 2 days we stopped was nowhere near long enough. Jon and Tye Woolley x

    « Good Stay »

Not sure how to rate this hotel. The first impression when you pull up is in need of TLC. Nice size car park with terribly overgrown trees which makes it dark and not inviting. Checking in experience was excellent, I think his name was Connor, but could he teach some people how to receive a guest 10 / 10 for him. The room (36) was ok nothing great overlooked a courtyard so enclosed and quite dark and not inviting. But is quiet. The staff were always busy and polite. Breakfast was served on small tables in the bar that despite someone trying to clean them we cleaned again before eating at them each morning. Good location Connor told us of a nice couple of mile walk into York city centre that took us along the river but buses into City centre run every 10 minutes up to 8pm if you prefer as parking in York is dreadful.

    « Never again »

In my opinion this hotel only gets good reviews because people are generally attending happy occassions like weddings. I have stayed in Best Western hotels previously and have to say could not be more disappointed with this one. Food expensive and below average, rooms unclean, breakfast poor, service very average. Charged different prices for drinks. Not impressed at all.

    « Lovely courtyard room »

We had 2 rooms both opening onto a charming little courtyard with a table and chairs so we could sit outside our rooms......this was a bonus indeed...The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable...The breakfast menu was varied and the home made granola pots were much appreciated...We would ask for these rooms again !!

    « A family wedding »

What can I say about this place when I originally booked this I was a bit apprehensive and wasn't sure if I was being over charged. I can safely say I have not!!! I arrived in what I can only say a panic I was the one delivering the cake for the wedding and it hadn't arrived in one piece the staff went above and beyond not only did the help me in gettin the cake back into some sort of shape again they polished it off and make it look beautiful again with doin a bit of design work honestly you will never understand how grateful I am to u for this. As a family stopping over with a baby I was somewhat panicked about our trip anyway but the staff at this hotel were amazing from the bottom of the ladder all the way up to the top!!! Nothing was too much for these staff!! They made us feel welcome from beginning to end. Before the wedding they helped my husband wit my baby's food warned it for us so she could eat before the wedding which was a massive help to ensure the smoothness of our day. During the wedding and the party the staff could not do enough always checking and ensuring everything was right and going as planned ??. I will be writing to your head office because I do believe that this hotel is an absolute gem!!! And the staff in it r the shining jewels a massive well done and congratulations to u all for doing your job so well I've worked in your industry so I know it's not easy!! One final word if your debating stopping here or having your wedding here don't delay everything was perfect food service even the d.j was a star and got involved like I say perfect from start to finish

« Great service and food »

Large double room with good tv . Brilliant powerful shower and extremely thick bath towels with comfortable bed meant a very pleasant stay. Mentioned that my husband had been disappointed with a breakfast earlier In the week and we were immediately offered two free breakfasts which were superb. The compote topped with yoghurt and oats was not too sweet and a good start, and the vegetarian hot breakfast was good. Best of all was the attentive service. We will return again.

    « Great stay! »

I stayed for one night with my mum. Beautiful building, friendly staff and really clean rooms that are nicely decorated. Warm atmosphere in the restaurant and bar downstairs, about half an hours walk or £6 taxi ride to the centre of town. Would recommend.

    « Pleasant stay »

The hotel and a good sized carpark at the rear. The welcome was great. The receptionist had the right amount of banter. The room was well presented. My only complaint was that the wifi was very inconsistent. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was reasonable. i would stay again.

« Loved this old fashioned traditional hotel »

We had a double room with the queen sized four poster it was great and my wife fell in love with it straight away. The hotel is an old country house and the rooms reflect this style don't expect modern here.We went for the inclusive breakfast and evening meal and both had good choice and the quality and service was first class. The hotel has a car park for 40 cars we got in easily but on the second day the car park seemed to be getting full, the bonus point for me was that they provided a charging facility for electric vehicles. In summary excellent hotel, lovely clean rooms, good facilities and friendly attentive staff definitely recommended thank you for a lovely stay.

    « Wedding Setting »

Spent 2 days at the York Pavilion Hotel attending a close friends daughters wedding, held there. The garden & interior gave perfect photo oppertunities. Hard to single out individual staff as all were naturally cheerful & friendly especially the senior lady who showed us to breakfast each morning, which was speedily delivered. Our bedroom was comfortable, but would have bennefitted from air con on what was a very warm night, as open window lead straight onto fire escape shared by other rooms. The bar served real ale along side a selection of pump beers, the bus stop across the road gave the conveiniance of a short journey straight to York centre, (just over £2 return) ample parking at the Hotel or even City centre if chosen.

    « Yorkshire - Business Trip with a Bonus »

One night's stay in York to have a change of scenery from the usual business hotels along major routes and in the industrial towns of the region. This hotel was off the beaten track and the walk into York Centre (around 20 minutes) on a sunny evening was very enjoyable, more so as it was early in the week and the city was quiet. Style and decor of the hotel is very impressive and the overall ambiance was calm, even though the main A19 passes the front of the hotel and the A64 ring road is just 5 minutes away. A good choice for both business and leisure activities connected with York / surrounding area.

« Attended wedding - nice hotel, lovely staff »

Stayed here overnight for a wedding. Not a big hotel but the rooms were clean and the staff very helpful in sorting out dietary requirements and drinks. The wedding was lovely and the staff couldn't do enough. Food was nice. Breakfast was really nice with a good selection. We had room 53 which was quite noisy all night as we were above the kitchen and could hear a blower/generator all night. Apart from that, really enjoyed the stay and would stay here again.

    « Very Good »

Stayed here three nights from 22 June 2016. Third time we've used this hotel, and generally very pleased with it. Staff friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is one of the best we've ever had!! We had room 29, which was fine. Bath showing some signs of age, and possibly needs re surfaced, but very clean. Excellent supply of hot water. Wi-Fi prone to dropping out, but might have more to do with older building. Plenty of parking, though some spaces a bit tight. Bus stop across road for trips into York centre, but a pleasant walk along the river is nicer. Very much worth seeking out this hotel.

    « Friendly & clean »

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western in York, the staff are polite and friendly. The hotel is ideal for those attending a graduation or function in York. We have already recommended this hotel to family who will be staying soon.

    « Full of charcter »

This hotel feels cosy and friendly despite hosting a large number of guests. There is lots of character as a pleasant break from chain hotels, the gardens are beautiful with secluded areas. The food was first class but the small restaurant a little over capacity when we stayed.

    3
    « Nothing Special. »

This hotel is ok but nothing special. The room we stayed in was very small, the bed 4 foot from the door, but all in all clean. I requested a coca cola from room service at 5am but I couldn't have it as the bar was closed and access couldn't be gained, I had to drink tap water as no bottled water was supplied in the room. At breakfast whilst waiting for my undercooked barely hot breakfast which is the worst I've ever tasted in a hotel, the coffee was awful, I had to get the attention of a waitress due to being bypassed and ignored twice by other staff. I wasn't told by the receptionist when checking in they had taken only a minimum payment, I assumed I had paid in full, they'd taken a card print for any incidentals and that was that. Two hours after checking out of the hotel I was informed from a very polite gentleman on reception via telephone he's had my key but not my payment. Madness! All in all the organisation of the hotel needs improving although they are very polite but at £125 a night the size of the room was very disappointing. I won't be staying again unless there's nothing else available in the area.

« Quirky hotel good for overnight stay »

Perfect for a one-night stopover en route to another destination. Outside of city centre but within easy reach of the main attractions, which are around 10 mins away by car. Our room was average but comfortable enough. There is free parking on the street out front if the car park is full. The full English breakfast was good and the bar/dining area is unique in a quirky sort of way.

    « On business »

Had stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago,, it's a comfortable hotel, it has a bar area to have food along with a nice restaurant, the bar food is the same cost as the restaurant, staff are helpful. It has off the road parking.

« Noise, terrible wifi and the worst service »

Good stuff first, location close to the outlet village and only ten minutes from town, that's it!, from there it is an old fashioned(styled), ran down typical BW. Wifi reception is terrible "we have put you in a room right next to the router" obviously not true or lead in the walls!!!. First nights service at check in and in the restaurant was good, food was decent, large portion and fresh, unfortunately never saw those staff again during my stay. The receptionist that looks like ginger version of Pob(the kids to character) was rude, after seeing that the restaurant room I had been in on my first day was set for conference I returned to reception and asked which room was to be used for the restaurant, "that one over there" and pointed, "you booked", I haven't booked but I'm a resident and haven't booked on other nights!? "You eating now"? YES!!!, off I go to the directed room, fifteen minutes go by and no sign of any waiter, just when hope was lost for any service, a waitress arrived "are you wanting to eat" YES!!!, "this is the wrong restaurant", " you need to go to the other room". This is rubbish hotel service.....near fuming at this point I got up and went to the other room, sat at a table......." You wanting to order" not even seen a menu at this point. Sort it out.......... SHOCKING SERVICE.....DONT STAY HERE.

« A little old, a little run down, but I like it. »

Like all BW hotels, you can never be sure what you are going to get, until you get there. This is an old and creaky hotel where everything works, but not necessarily as good as you would want. I think we can call this character and that is why I quite like it. Checking is a strange "hole in the wall", but service was pleasant and I trailed the corridors to my room. The bed was very comfortable. The TV works, but there is some problem which meant a flickering picture on some channels. The bath room is fine, but the shower is rather old and run down - works but only just. Breakfast is fine and worth the additional £7. A good 3 * hotel - I would be happy to stay here again.

« My perfect wedding day come true! »

From the minute we walked into the Pavilion hotel we knew that it was the venue we wanted to have our wedding at. From start to finish the coordinators who worked on our wedding were amazing! Nothing was too much trouble for anybody and any queries we had or worries were always quickly resolved and turned into a good working idea. My husband stayed the night before in the apartments over the road which were brilliant for him and his best man and ushers, and I stayed in the hotel with my bridesmaids in a wonderful room which was perfect for the next morning to get ready in. The reception room was set up early in the morning so I could take a look and change anything if needed (nothing needed changing as it was better than I could have ever imagined) then the whole day was literally perfect. And that is thanks to the amazing staff. Special mentions to Shannon, Mikey and Zoe (and Daisy before she went on maternity) for their roles in it all but every single member of staff was happy, more than willing to help with anything and generally just brilliant. Every single person who came has commented that they felt it was the most beautiful and perfect wedding they had ever been to. We were so chilled all day it meant that both of us enjoyed every single second of it. Food was amazing, not one complaint is needed. Thank you so, so much for making our dreams come true and helping us have such an amazing day and memories to keep forever.

Jackie and I have just spent a wonderful week at the York Pavillion hotel. The staff were all friendly and attentive to our needs. The food was excellent an interesting evening menu and great choice for breakfast. The room was clean and cosy., we both felt that the atmosphere in the hotel was great, loved the Jazz in bar. Thoroughly recommend a stay there so thanks To Mark and the team for making our stay special, we look forward to returning at some time in the future. Kevin and Jackie Edwards

Attenedes a wedding here. Room was ready early so that was perfect. Lovely big hotel. We had a super king size room bed was massive and comfy, room large plenty of space. Bathroom nice and the shower was a power shower so was fantastic. Loved my stay here. Only let down was no lift and i have 10 week old baby so had to carry pram up and down to room. Breakfast included full English, plenty of choice.

    « A Pleasant Bank Holiday Weekend »

A pleasant weekend spent in York using the hotel as our base. The staff at the hotel are very welcoming and helpful. They always had a smile on there face. We had a very enjoyable meal in the hotel restraint on the Friday night accompanied by some excellent wine. Breakfast was good and plentiful and served in good order despite the hotel being very busy. The hotel is situated just out of York but there is a lovely walk into town, along the river. which takes 20-25 minutes. Will definitely return to this hotel.

    « Great Hotel »

This is our 2nd time at this lovely hotel, clean and comfortable. Very warm and cosy lovely location and peaceful. Its a ten min walk to the centre but there are some small bars along the way to call into if your out drinking for the day. Its £6.00 for a taxi back. Were back again on the 10th June!! Breakfast was great and the dining area is just lovely with great customer service.

« Where was the management? »

A family Sunday lunch ruined by poor service. We were left waiting on arrival and had to search for a staff member who eventually directed us to our table. The girl who came to take our orders, without order pad, had clearly received no instruction in customer service; she was well out of her depth. No criticism of the young lady, but where was her supervisor? The bar was too busy serving a wedding party to prepare our drinks for some time. Another wait. When the starters eventually turned up, we asked for some bread rolls. This arrived after the starters were finished, in the form of three dried wedges of bread. Which we were then charged for. We had to search the corridors for someone to give us a spoon for the vegetable soup, again after everyone else was almost finished. The main course was OK, service slow; strange mix of veg, including leathery kale. We were asked if we wanted desserts, the menus were brought......and there we sat....and sat. So we decided to call it a day. Having asked for our bill, we were left to wait in the corridor for a considerable length of time, surrounded by the comings and goings of two large parties using the hotel at the same time. Clearly there are staffing problems at this establishment; however, the lunch waiting staff had been observed hanging around in a different part of the building, instead of attending to their customers. I would add that there was only one other table occupied while we were there. We have had several family celebrations at the Pavilion over the years, but this experience has shown us that it is past time for a change.

« A good location for visiting York »

The hotel is roughly one mile from the centre of York and there is a pleasant walk along the river bank or the bus stop is only a few yards from the door. The service is every ten minutes but the down side is that the service stops at 8pm so if you have gone into York for a meal the alternative is either walk or get a taxi (around £6). The hotel itself is very pleasant, with helpful staff and nice comfortable rooms. We had a room at the back which, although over a function room with a wedding ongoing was very quiet. The breakfast is a mixture of buffet and ordered hot meals. If ordering hot this is served promptly. The restaurant is open in the evening for dinner but see the separate entry under Langton's Brasserrie for comments on this.

« Period hotel in lovely setting »

This was a great hotel just outside the main city centre and at a reasonable price. We decided not to pay for the meal option when booking but found that there was a breakfast option of £7 rather than the full price of £14+ and this proved to be excellent value for money. We dined in one evening and found the food to be equally good although maybe a little restricted. Service is very good and the mainly young staff are very keen to help. There is a bus stop across the road which serves both the brilliant Designer Retail Park in one direction about 5 minutes away and York Centre in the opposite direction about 10 minutes. We stayed mid week and found all the facilities in a very old building to be more than adequate and would recommend a stay here as a base for touring a beautiful area of the country. However it seems to be very much a wedding venue because of its beautiful setting so may be very busy and noisy at weekends.

    « Good Midweek Break »

We recently stayed her for our Wedding Anniversary. We received an email before arriving asking if we wanted to upgrade, we did to the four poster suite. The bedroom was looking onto the front and so on the main road, however you couldn't hear any traffic as there was secondary glazing. There was plenty of very hot water and the bath was a great size (took seconds to fill). Only criticism is that the blinds were needing to be replaced and paintwork needing to be re-painted... Good choice of menus for Dinner and Breakfast. Would recommend booking for Dinner.

Booked weekend break for me and my partner ,thought I booked a room at the hotel but I had actually booked a 1 bed apartment which was across the road .The living room was small but fine as we didn't spend any time in it had television, phone ,couch, dvd player kitchen was modern, bedroom was lovely and bed very comfortable ,wallpaper in living room had celotape stuck to it for some strange reason that was my only gripe . The hotel was lovely all staff were very friendly and very helpful,The breakfast was amazing and a must if your staying at the hotel . Would definitely book again and hope to soon . Thank you

    « wonderful stays »

We have stayed at the Pavilion on several occasions, as a couple, and with family, and we love the rooms, the staff were always welcoming, and very helpful. Even though it is on a main road we were not disturbed by traffic, it is only a 10min walk along the river into the town centre.

« Sunday lunch disappointment (again) »

We live locally to The Pavilion. It is a lovely building in a lovely location (although parking is tight). We used to go often for Sunday lunch and enjoyed the proper service and the food. We had both our daughters' christening lunches there. So we really want to love The Pavilion - but lately it just keeps letting us down. For the first time ever, we booked a Boxing Day lunch (2015) - it was disappointing service right from booking to finish. I was offered a free Sunday lunch in apology (from The Pavilion itself - no acknowledgement from parent Best Western) but didn't take it up as it wasn't about the money - I just wanted my comments to be taken on board to improve the service. I was assured that there would be an improvement. My friend and I had lunch there in early Jan and were largely ignored even though we were initially the only customers there. Today, we have gone for Sunday lunch with the family - again with lack of welcome, inexperienced service, being made to wait for accompanying bread and cutlery and waiting to pay. While I acknowledge that there were two other functions going on - this should have been managed with increased staffing levels. Due to the close location and function rooms available I have booked a party for next year, but again with difficulty at the initial booking stage and more recently with attempting to pay for the deposit. I am now wondering whether we have made a big mistake in again putting our trust in The Pavilion. It is really the service that is lacking - in general the food is lovely. Please put the effort into making the most of this gorgeous hotel rather than falling back on apologies.

    « Great little hotel »

Stayed for a midweek break, had a four poster room which was very cosy but really nice. We were lucky enough to have very good weather so enjoyed the walks along the river into York and back. There was lots of free parking at the hotel so we just parked up and walked into York rather than mess around with any traffic. Breakfasts were very good and all the staff we met were very friendly and welcoming. This is an ideal hotel if you don't mind not being in the center of York. Will more than likely stay here again when we visit York, thoroughly enjoyed our mid week break.

« Pavilion Hotel close to York City centre »

This hotel is an excellent choice for visitors to York, a few minutes from the City centre and all of the attractions on offer. Lovely rooms, we had a 4 poster and a good sized room. Breakfast is very nice, lots of choice and good service. The bar / bistro area is cosy and and always has a nice atmosphere about it.. I cant imagine anyone not liking this hotel, good value for money.

« Nice old fashioned hotel »

Great helpful staff, interesting historic building, room number 1 lovely, bit small to be classed as a superior room, but did have a 4 poster bed, very clean, bathroom was huge, but could do with re-furb, as toilet was virtually un-flushable! A shame about the view of a brick wall directly outside the bed room window. £112 for room only, some may consider bit pricey... WiFi signal excellent. Location to York fab, the bus stops directly outside frequently, On the downside, pillows awful, flat and lumpy . Car Park small for large hotel, but nothing they can do about this due to nature of building & its land. We didn't visit the bar, but had an extra £19.30 added on for beverages, when I queried, they didn't know either, so hopefully this won't be deducted from my credit card!

« Super Staff, Super Food - a hidden gem with Superb Ambience! »

Weekend away so booked online & very pleased with our Ground floor room with French windows opening onto the inner Courtyard - Lovely sunny spot in among the plants & trees. Thank you Connor for your excellent advice on this room! Rupesh made us very welcome on our arrival and we dined in the restaurant that evening. Excellent food & really friendly helpful staff despite the fact they were very busy with 2 small parties in the function rooms. Adam, Kirsty, Craig & Oliver at the bar all very upbeat & chatty staff which made our stay a pleasure. On Saturday night there was a very noisy party which affected all guests particularly in the main part of the hotel as one friend went down to complain 3 times! Management should control the noise levels for house guests Overall a super place to stay

    « Wedding Anniversary »

Lovely Hotel just short bus ride in to the City. We requested a quiet room for our 3 night stay and were provided with delightful accommodation ( the room was called Vino Collapso !!). The welcome celebration pack was xlnt and a lovely surprise for my wife on our Wedding Anniversary. The staff were very friendly and breakfasts were superb. The only disappointment was the terrible service in the restaurant on the evening of our Anniv. Whilst the food, when it finally arrived, was very good, the front of house and kitchen were clearly understaffed. Our disappointment was cushioned by a complimentary bottle of Prosecco ( thank you Duty Manager). Nevertheless I would still recommend this hotel to others.

    « W/end Stay »

A wonderful hotel 'find'! Totally individual - delightful staff - a beautiful Georgian building with an interesting history. The rooms are most unusual in their naming - we stayed in the Indian Room, very tastefully appointed and, not OTT. Once owned by John Barry, the composer - whose great fame came when he wrote the archetypal 007 theme music. Would most definitely recommend and has good access to the city and is easy to find.

    « Weekend Away »

Just back from a weekend in York staying at the Pavilion. Was pleased we only had a little car as the car park was a bit cramped but we did find a space. It was a very welcoming hotel and the staff on reception at check-in were really friendly. We stayed in room 58 (The Drawing Office) and could not fault anything, it was very clean, and the bed was really comfy. The shower really woke you up in the morning and the water was always hot. The only tiny niggle we had was the walls were very thin - we could hear the people next door talking, heard their TV and their shower but it didn't detract from what was a very pleasant stay and if ever we are back in York, the Pavilion would certainly be on our list of places to stay. We never ate at the hotel so cannot comment on the food/breakfast.

We don't often stay in York ... a combination of being only 75 minutes drive from home and never having really found somewhere that suited us. The York Pavilion ticks all boxes and we would consider stopping over when in York now that we have found this hotel The welcome was friendly; despite having booked through a hotel site rather than direct, we were expected and greeted by name. There is ample parking at the hotel and we were provided with a pass that gave us secure parking at the Q Park behind the Barbican Theatre in the city centre ... so it was no disadvantage to be in Fulford overnight rather than in the centre of the city The room was comfortable and of the standard to be expected from a hotel of this quality. The breakfast was cooked to order and there was an ample choice for all diets. Most importantly, the staff were friendly from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure and gave the impression that it was a pleasure to be dealing with us ... something that must come down from the top, as the manner / approach was natural, not mechanical We have already recommended this hotel to our friends and only just remembered that we had not left a review on TripAdvisor!

    « Excellent Stay! »

We used this hotel as a base for a weekend exploring York. From start to finish we couldn't fault the experience. Hotel was very clean and well maintained. On arrival we were very early and the reception staff were more than happy to book us in and allow us to park the car and leave it until we got back from our walk to town and were also happy for us to leave the car in the car park when we checked out. We were lucky enough to have a room with a four poster bed which was an added bonus allocated by the hotel. Bed was comfortable and room and bathroom were also lovely and clean and well maintained. We also had a lovely evening meal in the hotel and breakfast the following morning both of which were excellent! Food was served quickly and really hot, which was great! There was a wedding reception going on in the hotel on the Saturday and I can honestly say it didn't cause us any issues with noise or poor service. The hotel is about a mile from town which is a lovely walk along the river. Excellent hotel and all the staff we encountered were also excellent. Will definitely return and recommend. Thanks for a great stay!

    « Lovely spot »

It's a lovely warm building, the staff are friendly and helpful. It's not in the city centre however do not let that put you off! There's a great bus service that runs regularly and the stop is across the road from the hotel (#7 bus). Also the taxi rank at night moves very smoothly and quickly. We stayed in a standard room, it was also warm, the bathroom was great, the shower was amazing??. We had some light bulb issues, no sooner was it reported, hey presto fixed??. I would recommend taking out the breakfast option as its really good, cooked and continental, a selection of fruits and yoghurt pots. Really set us up for the day. Great hotel, great grounds, lovely atmosphere, already planning to return later in the year. Great place

« NIce Stay in York »

Stayed here for a weekend. Good location on the outskirts of York. It takes you about 30 minutes stroll to the centre either along the main road or the river walk. The hotel has plenty of free parking which is a real bonus in York. Bus 7 runs past the hotel and taxis not expensive as only about a mile into the city. Hotel generally good. Our room was a little dated but clean and warm so not a problem. Staff were friendly. Enough pubs to eat and drink in Fulford too.

    « Highly Reccommended »

We stayed hereon 16th/17th April for my daughters 30th birthday. when checking in i was told that our room had been upgraded so I gave it to my daughter and her husband, but on arriving at our new room we were extremely pleased with what we saw. It was at the back of the hotel through a lovely courtyard and these four rooms were named, ours being The Singapore Room. Very clean and comfortable and pretty quiet. We had an evening meal in the restuarant which was excellent and very good value, the young waitress that looked after us was very polite and friendly. Breakfast was also very good with plenty of choice from the cold buffet. The only issue (very minor) we had was that the cooked breakfast was served whilst we were still eating the cereals. Something to think about. Cannot praise the staff enough from arriving to leaving we were very impressed with the service. There is a bus stop outside with buses running every ten minutes or so into the centre, too far to walk.

    « Makes a change »

Visited the hotel with work and it made a nice change from the usual 'travelodge' standards. The room was well appointed and comfortable and it was nice to have a Comfy, warm' room instead of the cold industrial feel of many offer.

    « New Year Party »

Spent last New Year at the York Pavilion to celebrate with my husband, it was sadly for the locals the same time as the floods. I couldn't have had a better stay, everyone was so friendly and helpful during a really difficult time. Our meal was absolutely fantastic, would definitely recommend it.

« Excellent base for a short stay in the York area »

Lovely quirky room in this olde worlde hotel. We were on the 2nd floor up the main staircase and then a set of intriguing narrow stairs to the 2nd floor. The view wasn't much - apart from the tawny owl in the hollow tree!, but that didn't matter to us. Bed large and extremely comfortable. There was a separate bathroom/toilet/basin with shelf for toileteries, which is always useful. Also a separate walk-in store/dressing room for hanging clothes and space for cases etc. Also a dressing table & mirror in this part. Hardly used TV, and there was an iron/board and hair drier as well. ie; everything you need, plenty of space and very comfortable. There is adequate free parking, although there were weddings both nights of our stay, so a bit congested in car park. We were there as part of a 30 strong group on a Hockey tour and the hotel provided a separate private dining room with a set meal - which was very nice. The bar was very busy - because of the weddings - and us! Breakfast was excellent. Half an hour to walk into York, and we walked along the river, so lovely. Would definitely go back if we're heading to York again.

« A lovely weekend and superb staff »

We booked to stay in the Best Western during the weekend of my daughter's wedding. We booked early, approximately 7 months prior to the event, as there were many of us staying. I think they got a bit confused as all the rooms were booked in the same family name so when we arrived very late on Friday night, exhausted after setting up the venue for the next day, it seemed like we didn't have a room! We were treated like royalty though. While we waiting for them to sort out the rooms, we were given complimentary drinks and entertained by the lovely staff who were so friendly. We ended up with amazing rooms, a 4 poster bed in ours! The breakfast was plentyful and filling. The staff are very friendly and great with large parties and kids. I would recommend this to anyone.

    « Brilliant »

We went here as a family for our friend's wedding. The car park was very crowded on arrival and seemed pretty small. We had a warm welcome from the reception and the general checking in was a friendly event. On arrival to the room it took our breath away - it was huge and wonderfully decorated. A brilliant size for a family of four. Sleep for me that night was not great as I am not a fan of hard mattresses but my husband slept very well so I think that is quite subjective. Breakfast was very tasty. A cold buffet was provided along with individual pots of tea and coffee delivered to the table and a fantastic choice of hot options. My children were made such a fuss of and at no point did they feel like an inconvenience; to the point where one of the waiters played a tickle game with one of the twins - they had a great time. The wedding itself could not have been better. The service was amazing, the food was faultless and everything was perfect. Again the boys were made to feel incredibly welcome and they had a wonderful time. In summary this could not be a better venue for a wedding. It was comfortable, welcoming and happy. A wonderful weekend stay. Thank you

We had a great stay at the Pavilion Hotel in Fulford Yok. The staff were friendly and the rooms were comfortable . We had a team meal on the Saturday with our wives/partners The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. On the Sunday a few of us stayed an extra night . We decided to have a meal at the Hotel. I mention Micheal Whittlestone ,who arranged to get a table laid especially for the 10 of us . He was very attentive and nothing was too much for us. All in all a great stay. Thank you for rounding off a great weekend stay.

    « Very welcoming hotel »

We have stayed here on two occasions and on each visit have found the staff very welcoming and welcome. Our family live in York and on this occasion the parents and 2 young children came to see us after our meal. The staff were very accommodating by creating space for us to enjoy coffee as a family and then to retire to the Resident's lounge. Food good, perhaps a little pricey, and the rooms quirky and interesting. Certainly be back.

    « Wedding anniversary break »

we booked the hotel unseen for a weekend break. From the moment we arrived to the time of leaving everything was superb. The staff were informative, polite and friendly. We were contacted prior to arrival informing us of a wedding that was being held at the same time,we were advised that a quieter room was available if required, this is what we opted for and we were upgraded to a queen size four poster room at no extra cost. We arrived earlier than expected and were shown through to the delightful bar whilst our room was prepared. The evening meal was excellent and served very quickly, the restaurant staff were attentive at all times.Breakfast was to be expected i.e very good , and served very quickly even on the Sunday morning when the numbers were increased from the previous days wedding. The hotel is possibly the best hotel we have ever stayed in {trust me we've stayed in a few} so good in fact that we are rebooking for later this year. Only one small gripe is that the postcode does not take you to the hotel, not the hotels fault I know.

« I cannot rate it any less »

Spoke to the hotel in advance of visit as wanted flowers in our room for my partner. Having checked in and unpacked, the hotel decided to let us know a party was booked for the next evening, but music would cease at midnight. To be honest this was a lie, the music continued after midnight and complaining both to staff at the time and the owner after, it seemed this was not a problem. On the first morning we were awoken by a delivery wagon parked under our room for 30 minutes with its engine on. Again, staff felt there was no problem and the owner assured me the hotel didn't accept deliveries before 7am. Having made a complaint direct to the owner, her response was the same as all other poor reviews, suggesting it is just a standard response and no intentions are meant. The sad thing is, we had visited the Hotel as a possible venue for our wedding as we would have taken over the whole hotel, but now I wouldn't hold my daughters 13th birthday party there. One other thing, the restaurant cannot cater for the number of guests so if you do stay, make it an early breakfast. Please do avoid this hotel. I delayed my review to allow the hotel to provide adequate response but they refuse and the franchise holder refuses to assist

    « Quirky »

Following a funeral locally we arrived depressed, but the staff were so pleasant and helpful it really cheered us up. This hotel is quirky, but that is a good thing, as it is different from many other hotels we stay in. The bed room we stayed No1 hosted a 4 poster bed, how romantic and comfortable. This is a great hotel with wonderful staff, although a little way out of the centre it was perfect as me met with some friends, had a drink in the bar then to a local pub. If I was to niggle it is that there is almost no mobile phone signal, but then again, its great to talk to real people rather than being glued to a phone. Breakfast was all it should be, full English , hot and plenty of it, and again the staff were so pleasant and helpful, it was so refreshing as so many establishments have an arrogant attitude to customer service, keep it up.

« Best bistro lunch ever »

This was a real find. Excellent value, super service, and in a lovely quiet conservatory setting in a hotel in a pretty village on the edge of York. I have already booked to meet a friend regularly for lunch here on the strength of this first visit. The food choice is not huge, but there is enough and each course was beautifully cooked, hot and tasty. Two courses and tea and coffee for £10 makes it great value, especially when served so courteously at a linen set table. As soon as we mentioned the slight chill, the door to outside was closed, though on a nicer day, it would be lovely to have the fresh air option! The only slight downside was the smell from the smokers area which is in a closed inner courtyard opening off the conservatory - every time the door opens and closes the air wafts into the building and competes with the lovely food aromas. Overall though this was a great place to come for a quiet, delicious, unhurried and good value lunch, just minutes from the busy city centre, where lunch experiences tend to be more frenetic. Be aware though that the hotels postcode lands you up a side street in which your half-remembered skills at three point turns are severely tested! Once on the village high street, stop looking at the sat nav, don't turn down Prospect Terrace and just look for the big hotel sign!

    « Great Wedding Venue »

We stayed here as this was the venue chosen by our friends for there wedding. We had such a great time at the hotel, the room was clean and well kept and had a nice feel to it, Our room was close to the reception with me and my wife slightly concerned that the room may be too close and therefore a bit noisy. This was not the case as once we were in the room, we could not hear the anything, ideal for the light sleeper. The breakfast in the morning was well organised, we were seated by the staff pretty much as soon as we arrived, without waiting around. I would recommend the apple-compote. The parking could do with some form of marking, however this is a minor issue and to be honest not the hotels fault when four cars park in an area fit more. Overall, we had a great time at the hotel,

    « Quirky Quality Stay »

I visited the Pavilion last weekend for a family wedding. I must say that the wedding organisation and presentation was excellent plus the food and service good. The hotel has obviously been added and added to over the years and my poor sense of direction got me lost a number of times! The nature of the development means the rooms are varied in size and quality but all are clean and well presented. I was first shown a room which was a bit small but the helpful reception staff handled my complaint quickly and politely and I ended up in a nice room. It was up three flights of stairs but I could do with the exercise. Worth enquiring first if anyone is not so good with stairs. The breakfasts are very nice and served which is not so common these days. A nice touch. Parking is good (often a problem in York hotels) and access easy. I'd recommend this hotel. Even though it is a bit out of Town the taxis are cheap and the benefits outweigh the disadvantages of being a few miles out.

    « Not too sure »

This hotel seems to attract very mixed reviews on TA and I am not surprised. I think the experience is very much governed by the room you get. Having struggled two flights upstairs with my suitcase I reached my allocated room 12, having specifically asked for a quiet room, and that is what I got. Room 12 is up in the eaves, complete with authentic cobwebs in the rafters. That was ok as there were no actual spiders but I was less impressed that a Hoover and dirty linen had been abandoned outside my room which made me worry that someone might come back and try to clean my room, which was made up for me and fine. I was also a bit cold - there was one radiator but it couldn't quite cope with heating the room. I was disappointed that the wifi didn't reach my room so I had to access it from the public rooms downstairs. I enjoyed my dinner but overall this was an average experience.

Would recommend York Pavilion for anyone visiting York.. Will stay there again if in the area. The staff are well trained, very friendly and helpful. « 3 Night Stay »

The hotel is located on the outskirts of York. We arrived Easter Bank Holiday Monday, to be greeted with a very warm welcome and our room immediately up graded and had the choice of 2 upgraded rooms. Also breakfast given at a cost of £7 per person instead of the normal price of £15. The room we chose Grandad Wooley in the older part of the hotel, was clean and comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very good and at a reasonable price, during a conversation we toasted our selves on celebrating our 17th Wedding Anniversary the day before and were offered a complimentary glass of Preseco with our meal, which we thought was lovely. On returning to our room there was a loud droning noise, which at first didn't seem too bad but as the hotel became quiet it seemed to be louder as not covered by any other background noise, this carried on until just before midnight, which then ended with us calling Reception to see if they could find out what it was and to stop it (sounded like an explanair fan being left on). Within 3 mins the noise stopped and a good night sleep was had. This also happened during the early hours of our 3rd day and was woken at 5.30am up by the droning sound. Reception was contacted and we were advised it was the boiler for the water which is on a timer and there was nothing they could do about it other than switching the boiler off which they couldn't do, and we needed to complain to Reception in the Morning (5.30am!!!!), luckily we managed to get back to sleep. After breakfast the same morning, whilst getting ready to go out, the house keeper came to see us and was very apologetic and asked if we wanted to move rooms, which we decided to do. We packed our bags, and on our return back to the hotel later that afternoon all our bags had been moved to our new Room, again this was in the older part of the hotel. The new room was again very nice and although the noise was still present it was not the same as in the previous room and did not keep us awake. Even though we had these issues, all the staff were exceptionally pleasant, happy and helpful and nothing was too much trouble and they dealt with our issue in a very quick and efficient manner. I would recommended the hotel but the boiler noise needs to be addressed, this may not be an issue in the more modern rooms. The local bus in to York is on the opposite side of the road, we got the No 7 which takes in to York, we got off in Clifford Street just passed the Castle Tower, and if you get off here you can walk in to the main part of York, if you stay on the Bus it can take you to the station for the National Railway Museum if you follow the signs. To get back to the hotel just find the nearest No 7 bus stop as this bus only goes to and from York to the Retail outlet. It was about £1.80 one way per person, which works out cheaper than paying for parking. Highly recommend a visit to The Treasurers House, the National Railway Museum and the Castle Museum. There are other things we didn't have time to do so will look forward to going back.

    « Disappointing »

Very thin walls, kept up most of the night by loud guests. Not to mention the extremely loud function held on the Friday night! After calling to complain at 11pm I was told they could only move me- this obviously wasn't a viable option at that time, and pointless as they had drunk people roaming about. Obviously this cannot be avoided BUT people are here to work and maybe it would have been nice to offer something as an apology rather than 'oh well that's all we can do'. However the staff were lovely on reception the rest of the time!

We are in our last night at York pavilion, hotel staff very friendly and helpful,on arrival our room 5 had no main lighting this was rectified quickly. For the price we paid £133 per night we expected more, stained carpet in lounge plus this large rug in room that is a trip hazard, the room is generally shabby, cannot fault breakfast but ensure that you get a deal as its pricey at nearly £15,hotel ideally situated on main bus route and for the energetic ones a nice walk along the river,we intend to return later in the year but not in that room,I also know that the owner looks at reviews and would ask that she has a look at this room and does she think that it was worth what we paid,as mentioned the staff could not have been more helpful

We decided to stay just outside of York city centre due to high hotel prices at the time of our proposed visit. This hotel is approximately 7 minutes drive from the centre, full of character and we had a room with wooden beams. Unfortunately we were unable to park at the hotel on a Friday and Saturday night due to wedding receptions and had to park on the main road down from the hotel.

    « Will Return »

My husband, who is a novice at booking hotels online, booked this hotel as a Christmas Present for me. We decided to go in March when weather was milder. We arrived in York by train and after a short taxi ride we were at the hotel. We were able to check in early as our room was ready. What a beautiful, although slightly, room we were given, room 64 Madame Clicquot! We only ate breakfast in the hotel as found that once we were out we wanted to stay out. Breakfast was beautiful. Lovely buffet style with fresh fruit, juices, cold meats, cereal etc and then whilst you were enjoying this a cooked breakfast of your choice was being prepared. All staff we encountered were very welcoming and pleasant in particular the gentleman (sorry I didn't note his him) on breakfast during our stay on the Friday and Saturday of our stay. The location of the hotel suited us fine. It was approximately 25 minute walk to city walls. However there is a bus service directly outside the hotel and the bus is every 10-15 minutes. There is also an Outlet Mall a short bus ride from outside the hotel when you want an alternative retail therapy. Despite being on the main road, and our room faced the road, we were not disturbed by traffic. Excellent hotel, excellent location but most of all excellent staff.

i was attending an evening function hence an overnight stay at this lovely hotel. Booking in I mentioned to reception that I only saw the menu for the function a couple of hours ago and that I did not eat the meat that was on offer, would it be possible for me to change at such short notice. The young man on duty said he would ask. Two minutes after entering the room I had a phone call asking what would I like to eat . A totally new meal was cooked for me a so short a notice. That is service, thanks to all the staff concerned. I had a lovely stay great room large comfy four poster bed. Would love to visit again

Typical Best Western. Friendly welcoming staff, clean and slightly worn decor. It is outside of York and a taxi ride (£12 ish) from the city centre. Breakfast was excellent. My room (gardeners room) was accessed from the courtyard and was quiet. There was a working area with a good size desk and a small bathroom.

    « Such potential »

A beautiful old building with wonderful furniture. Our room was small, adequately furnished with a comfortable bed but oh so hot even in February! We decided to eat at the hotel on our first night. The meal was well cooked but over priced for what it was. Breakfast was a pleasure during the week but at the weekend disappointing. We had to wait for a table and most of the items on the buffet had gone and were not replenished. For the price we paid and the distance from the city it was over priced. Friendly and helpful staff made it a pleasant stay.

« Did they even remember we were there?? »

We visited today for Sunday lunch, we arrived for our 2pm booking on time today and had a lovely drink in the bar with a beautiful background of a piano being played live. We were taken to our table in a beautiful private dining room which was ideal as we had young children with us. There were two less spaces than had been booked, but we laughed and shuffled up and all was well. The service began slowly and the starter order was wrong, unfortunately the rest of us had waited, eaten and finished our starters before the missing one arrived. There then was a pause of nearly 40 minutes, time which is not easy to fill for a two year old. The main course arrived on cold plates so by the time we had all been served and the veg had arrived I had to request some more gravy to heat up my vaguely warm roast, by this time it was 3.45pm. Following this we ordered dessert and there was not enough lemon tart for all that wanted it and my husband still had dirty veg plates next to him while his dessert was served. It was now 5.15pm and we couldn't bear to wait another hour for coffee (we live an hour from the hotel and my daughter goes to bed at 7pm!) so we left the rest of the party to it. We were so disappointed because the venue and food have the potential to be fantastic but it was ruined by poor service, we honestly felt that they forgot we were there.

    « So Nearly A Fantastic Stay »

We chose this hotel as it was outside of York. We checked in and when we opened the door to our room were "wowed"! It was spacious, well furnished with antique furniture with three windows overlooking a busy road - that was the downfall as we could hear the traffic and were woken early but otherwise very nice with large king size bed. We went downstairs to the brasserie for dinner and had a very enjoyable meal. I asked for a coffee in the residents lounge, as it was a lovely room with sofas and a fire burning and were the only ones in there. My coffee arrived but no petit fours as it said and there was no one to ask. Breakfast was a little chaotic as we took our seats and had to wait some time before our cooked breakfast order was taken with four other tables. The pastries had all gone and were not replenished as had the granola pots - it was all a little disappointing. I certainly wouldn't have been happy paying £14.95 each for breakfast but it was thankfully included in our rate. This hotel has the potential to be fantastic but it is the attention to detail that is needed!

    « Worst Western Hotel »

I recently stayed at this hotel whilst making a lengthy journey by car. During the phone booking the member of staff was only interested in taking my money via the credit card. On arrival nothing had been prepared for me and I was left with no where to park my car and, waiting in the hotel doorway for 25 minutes whilst unorganised staff attempted to rally round and complete the most basic of tasks, such as put a pop-up travel bed in my room, which they eventually managed but then I must have been expected to put the cover on the quilt as it was left on top of the bed! The hotel staff were rude, unprofessional and clearly without knowledge or experience of the hotel industry, which appears to be condoned by the elderly owners. Travellers should not be fooled by the official description on "Trip-advisor" as this hotel is not elegant, how could it be with Room names such as "Vino Collapso" and "Boogie Woogie." It is neither "full of antiques", my room was pre-fabricated cheap furniture that could be purchased from anywhere. This is a run-down, ram-shackle, 1 star at best establishment where school leavers can try their hand at working in the hospitality industry. It just doesn't work, is not value for money and leaves everything to be desired.

I have stayed here before on business and am happy to say that it is just as good this time round. What a lovely hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is tasty and reasonable. « Anniversary break »

This is a very relaxed and characterful hotel both indoors and out. There is a variety of different rooms in the main building; some are off a courtyard/garden with names like: "Head Gardener's Office". Also available are several apartments across the road which is quite busy during the day; on this, our THIRD visit, we stayed in one called "The Studio". It has a lounge and a well equiped kitchenette with bedroom and bathroom above accesses by a metal spiral stair. Each room has a TV. There is a conveniently positioned pedestrian crossing with a refuge which is a boon at busy times. The best way to get to the centre of York is on the No.7 'Park & Ride' bus so be sure to take your Bus Pass. The service is approx. Every 10 Mins; the journey takes less than 10 Mins there. The return journey includes a scenic tour around the city centre and so takes about 15 Mins. The food is very good and exceptionally good value on the lunch menu. Staff are as very courteous and helpful.

« Watch out for the very small print for their special offers. They are anything but special!! »

Think twice before you book a stay at this chain of hotels. We booked a Sunday special offer bed breakfast and cream tea upgrading to dinner for a nominal charge, This charge does not exist and we paid exactly the correct amount with no allowance of £50 However I have tried to get this explained by several members of staff I am still at a loss to understand how this offer should work. There was lots of things wrong from the cream tea not arriving to a quiet room being next to a generator to the most terrible food I have ever eaten. No offer of compensation apology was offered. The manager said he welcomed trip advisor!!!! Really?? Please give BEST WESTERN A WIDE BERTH I am taking this complaint further as the whole experience was not acceptable in any way at all Sadly I paid cash so I cant cancel the payment.

    « York. Pavilion hotel . »

The York pavilion hotel is very comfortable. The staff are attentive, polite and anxious to ensure that your stay is enjoyable. The bedroom is clean and bed comfortable. Meals are good with breakfast excellent. Log fire in dining room. The hotel is situated on a bus route into York. A mile away is a very good outlet village with a park and ride facility into York. A very enjoyable four day break which we hope to repeat.

Overall very good hotel and would recommend to friends... The service a the bar was very good, friendly atmosphere, caring staff. Quality of breakfast let the whole stay down, items dry, (been under or on the hot plate too long) But would stay again... :-)

    « Mother's Day lunch. »

Just had a delicious meal in the restaurant, a Mother's Day special menu. A long time since I had a meal like this, just went to show what I had been missing, truly excellent. The staff very friendly and attentive, hilarious moment when the chair leg gave way just added to our enjoyment. Thank you, hope to visit again.

I have been visiting and staying in York for more years than I care to remember usually on a leisure break, but I had somehow managed to miss this lovely hotel until now. I regularly stay in Best Western Hotels for business and decided to use them for this short leisure stay. My wife and I were not disappointed either with the ambience in the hotel, the external appearance or the room we occupied. We were made welcome from the moment we stepped into the reception and the staff ensured that we were fed and watered after our long trip to York despite arriving at a time when most hotel kitchens are closing. A very enjoyable stay and one that I will be repeating in the near future.

    « York Christmas Market, December 2015 »

This was our forth stay at The York Pavilion Hotel in the past 15 months, and we were not disappointed. The staff recognised us straight away and made us feel at home. The high standards set by the staff made this stay equal to our last three visits in July and September, and September 2014, 5 Star *****. The hotel was decorated for Christmas and had a very seasonable atmosphere, The room was to a high standard and very clean, and the full English breakfast was as usual the perfect start to the day. The staff are very friendly and helpful and always put them selves out to help. I would recommend staying at The York Pavilion.

    « Romantic get away »

Stayed here 19th Feb 2015. The hotel Is lovely. The staff couldn't be more helpful, even with a big wedding taking place on the day/night we stayed. We asked for a taxi to be ordered for us that arrived within 10mins. We didn't book breakfast but took them up on the offer at check in at £7 per person. Very much worth it, lovely full English and continental breakfast available. The evening menu looked lovely too. The room was adorable. We stayed in room 1, beautiful four poster bed. Tastefully decorated. Not the generic sole less rooms you find in big hotels. Beautifully clean and an enormous bathroom. Our only thoughts were that the room was very hot, but I'd rather that and open a window than be cold. The room was very quiet despite the wedding taking place downstairs, we didn't hear a thing. Something the staff seemed concerned about when we checked in as they assured us it would be over by midnight but it wasn't a problem. All in all everything we could have wanted for a weekend away in York. Not too far out from the centre. Cost us £6.50 in a taxi to the shambles which was reasonable as parking prices in the city are quite pricey.

    « Very good Hotel »

This Hotel is a wonderful, very old historic building, beautiful architecture and grounds. Very nicely located just outside the center of York (Buss stop across the the road, or a short Taxi ride). Very friendly and professional staff provide a warm welcome and go out of their way to look after guests. The Hotel is small enough to have a personal touch, where by you will see the same staff several times, so that staff and guests and able to get to know each other. Comfortable well stocked bar, very nice breakfast. Had dinner in the dining room, with a view of the grounds one night, the food was very good. (I have given 4 starts and not the full 5, due to our pillows being a bit flat, perhaps I am being a bit fussy). I can highly recommended this Hotel and will be returning as soon as possible.

    « Enjoyable stay »

Nice hotel in close proximity to York city centre. The staff were welcoming and extremely professional despite coping with the demands of dealing with a wedding party. We had a standard double room which was spacious enough, clean/warm and quiet. Breakfast was a delight - ample portions and a fantastic selection of healthy options available.

« Lovely hotel for a romantic weekend »

My husband and I had a relaxing and pampered Saturday night at this hotel. We stayed in the older part of the Georgian building. There are newer additions at the back. We had a pretty, room with shabby chic antique furniture and subdued lighting. But the best part was the huge 4 poster canopy bed with thick, carved posters. It was beautiful! The service was very good and friendly. We had our dinner in the restaurant which was quiet but the food was excellent and included in our DBB package. We didn't venture out on a cold February night but their garden is pretty and must be a nice place to sit out with a drink on a warm summer's day. There was a wedding that night in the back hall but we weren't bothered by noise. This hotel is a fair distance from the centre of York but there is a bus. It's very convenient for the University. All in all, a very romantic stay.

What a lovely greeting we had when we arrived, we were shown to room 5, stunning room with a four poster bed, large sofa, so much space and a lovely spacious bathroom. We had evening meal and breakfast the next morning, beautifully cooked and presented meals and generous servings. All the staff were so polite and friendly, making a pleasurable stay.

I stayed here recently with my daughter on a University visit. Beautiful hotel in a good location not far from the University. A nice walk into York by the river or there are frequent buses. Friday 5th Feb 2016 What a great hotel this is. Very well run, clean, with great food what else could you ask for. Staff members are very smart and courteous and very efficient. The hotel will come in handy for visiting my son at York university. Also the history of the hotel with its link to the 007 films music would certainly interest other people .

really nice hotel with caring staff. Spotless and welcoming. Situated in a pleasant area on the outskirts of York with say access to the city centre. Food Smashing. Plenty of choice and a quality service. This is our 3 rd stay at this hotel and not our last!

    « Really lovely staff. »

We arrived and the place looks beautiful, in stunning grounds. When you step inside it's a bit of a step back in time and the decor in the rooms is a little dated. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything that you expect and need from a hotel room. What sets this place apart though is the staff, they were so polite, attentive and couldn't do enough to help and advise people. This is something that many hotels lack these days, we met more than one member of the team and they were all very polite. The hotel was inexpensive, comfortable, the customer service was exceptional.

    « Lovely stay. »

The staff here could not do enough for you. Even gave restaurant recommendations. The grounds are beautiful as is the hotel itself. Our room was amazing with lots of features. It was clean and I really have nothing to complain about. Breakfast was great as well. If you want a comfortable stay with pretty grounds and features, with friendly staff, I could not recommend this hotel enough.

« Could be so much better... »

Upon arrival the hotel looks nice, the grounds are well kept and the communal areas are all nicely done out... The staff are all very polite and helpful, the breakfast like a lot of comments was probably one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had, and it's very easy to get into York (25 min walk, 5-10 mins on bus, bus stop right outside hotel door).... But it was all let down by the room, maybe we was unlucky with our room, obviously we haven't seen the others but ours was very small, dated and needed some major tlc, but the worse part was the noise... You could hear every footstep, toilet, door opening/closing above and below and the heating/pipes seemed to be extremely loud and constantly going from 2/3am and was still creaking when we left at 10am... Like I said maybe we was just unlucky but it was a shame because the rest of the hotel and the staff have the potential to make it somewhere great... All in all not worth the £100+ a night price tag ..

    « Best breakfast »

My usual stay in York was not available so I decided to give this hotel a try. On arrival it looked really nice and there was a gravelled drive with plenty of parking. The hotel was very clean and the décor in keeping with the age of the house. I wasn't particularly keen on my room only because I do not like silk drapes at the back of the bed but equally that is really in keeping with the hotel and certainly nothing wrong with the room just not my choice of décor but not something that would stop me staying again. I had a room over the main road but when it came to going to sleep it was actually really quiet and the bed was extremely comfortable. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel and many buses passing but I decided to walk into York which took me about 25 minutes but a pleasant walk. There was a really good choice at breakfast and I would have to say one of the best I have had. Service was also really good. If you are looking to visit York I would definitely recommend this hotel.

« fantastic staff and very cosy venue »

As soon as we walked in the front door of this welcoming hotel we knew we picked a good one! An interesting old house with lots of the original features, not stripped back and 'modernized' but warm inviting and with a staff that were so keen to make sure you had anything and everything you needed. Wherever you stay, you usually get a least one member of staff who is sort of treading water and not really making any effort in their contact with guests or other members of staff. Not here, each and every single member of staff we met over the two days were enthusiastic, knowledgable and professional. The team here are a credit to themselves and the owners and leadership we are running this great little place, Some of the very best food we have eaten in any Hotel we've stayed at as well. Would I recommend it to friends, hell YES!

« Nice hotel but remember it is 3* »

I stayed here for 5 nights for business in room 33/Scarborough room and had excellent wifi which was not the same for my colleagues in different parts of the hotel. The room was very nice the only downside was the sound proofing. I could hear everything that was happening in the room below from the television to their conversation. They did not stay up late or else I would of asked for a change of room. The room was clean but I have no idea why the cleaner rarely replenished the shower gel but disposed of the shower cap and left another one. Go figure! The staff were very good especially the breakfast staff and they provided me with soya milk and hot water with a slice of lemon which was much appreciated. The range of breakfast foods was not that good but once again this is only a three star hotel. We ate in the hotel restaurant only once during our stay because it was over priced and minimalist to say the least. There are many local pubs and a fish and chip shop. Our favourite was the pub across the road called the Plough. Huge portions and a good variety of food. Shame there is no fitness room. If you are a gym freak like me I managed to get some day passes to the local Puregym.

« Perfect wedding day - perfect venue »

Having spent a whole year searching for a venue, I hadn't considered The Pavilion having spent many hours staring at it from the outside while stuck in traffic driving to work ! However as soon as I walked in the door I knew it was the place I wanted to get married. Everything from the lovely traditional recpetion area, to the smell of fresh lillys and the cosy lounge gave it that feeling of being in an individual house rather than a chain hotel. The packagae that the team offer there is unbeatable in terms of value, although out of season for our wedding, the all year round costs are equally as great. Daisy and the team there couldn't do enough to help from the start, helping us to find a suitable date in the diary, menu options, wine choices, every little question I had was answered in a way that always made me feel like I wasn't being a nusience. We held our ceremony at the venue and our wedding breakfast and with things like flowers and chair covers being included in the price it saved a lot of time sourcing these suppliers. We stayed at the hotel the night before our wedding and the team really looked after us, setting up the reception room early allowing me to decorate the tables myself. The accomodated a family meal for us and our parents as well as other guests who were staying ahead of the wedding. The rooms are traditional but lovely, and the room i was allocated to get ready was great, with bridesmaids being situated opposite. Breakfast in the hotel was great, as was the food served at the wedding. we had nothing but compliments from all our guests, not just on the food but the day as a whole. the Pavilion team worked so hard and were with me every step of the way, making sure every detail was worked through on the day. They even came to the rescue when my baby girl was ill and fell asleep right before the ceremony providing emergency baby sitting cover (not usually part of the service!!) We cannot recommend the hotel enough. Thank you to all involved.

Everything from to check in to leaving was very good , especially the quality of the cooked breakfast . Lovely old looking hotel with real sense of history . Dont know if the walls in room 38 were thin or we just had a loud snorer in 39 . Pub with Sky Sports only 50 yards away and city centre a 25 min walk if feeling energetic and want to save on parking . Excellent winter package - would definitely use again .

We booked one of the private rooms for a silver wedding anniversary family get together. The room was well presented for the occasion and very clean. The food was excellent and plentiful. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who surpassed our expectations with the excellent service they always provide. We have used this hotel on 3 occasions for family celebrations and on each occasion the service has been faultless. ??????

    « christmas day lunch »

To say we were completely underwhelmed by the experience is cutting a fine point. Struggled to find a car parking space, bad start. We were asked to take our table seats at the due time of 1.15pm, at 1.30 still waiting for the pre ordered first course. Starters, very edible, looked fine, quite tiny. Mains, very dry, no gravy, vegetables limited and cool, potatoes did not taste fresh and wholesome, turkey small quantity. Christmas pudding was poor, no brandy sauce just a small dab of brandy butter, the pudding itself was small and very chewy. Coffee was cool, looked like mud and did not taste much better. Mince pies, tiny and tasteless, not fresh. Overall our impression was of a works Christmas lunch, everyone packed in together, no space without falling over your neighbouring diner, each listening in to each others conversation, no personal service, four different people served us. Perhaps our expectations were too high for the Pavillion, but thought £70 a head would be special. Unfortunately it was not.

This was our second stay at this traditional style hotel in the Fulford suburb of York. We stayed here for 1 night and on arriving we were very impressed the hotel was decorated beautifully very traditional. Reception was very welcoming and our rooms were ready early. The ground floor is excellent but the hallways and rooms are in need of a little tlc. Our first room number 19 smelled of damp but we were found another room on the top floor. The 2 rooms we had were spacious and very clean. Breakfast had lots of variety staff are friendly and helpfull so overall for the price we paid I would recommend this hotel.

    « A Poor Christmas Dinner »

A group of 17 had a Christmas Dinner here on 13th December. We went last year and it was brilliant but this time we were very disappointed. There were approximately 100 guests in a big room and disco played loudly all the time even during the meal meaning we had to shout at each other. The service was very slow and it took from sitting down at 7.45pm to finishing the meal at 10pm. Two small cold dishes of vegetables were placed on our table for 8 people containing a few carrots and parsnips and rock hard sprouts. The turkey was cold and Christmas pudding was almost invisible. The soup was nice as was the salmon but the beef was cremated and in blocks. We had to serve ourselves coffee or tea but we were not told this just took it for granted and there were no mints. My husband has refused to go to Christmas dinners for years but agreed to accompany me this year as I had raved about how good it was last year. He will not be joining me again for some time! We thought this may have been a "one off" but speaking to people who had been on 11th December they had a similar experience.

« Grand facade of main building, but average rooms and confusion about evening meal times »

After a 5 hour drive, it was not an auspicious start when on checking-in at 8.30pm I was informed that the dining room was fully booked and that I wouldn't be able to dine there that evening. I asked if bar meals may be available, but the reception clerk on didn't know. After moving into my room, unpacking and making a few phone calls, I went to the bar and read on a card on the table that food was served until 9.30pm and that meals could be ordered in the bar or as room service. As it was 9.15pm I went to order a meal at the bar. The barmaid said that she'd need to check with the kitchen and when she returned informed me that the kitchen was closed. I queried this as it was not yet 9.30pm, but she seemed disinterested. However, whilst sitting in the bar I saw two trays of hot food coming out of the kitchen for room service at 9.35pm and then at 9.45pm, a fellow guest sitting in the corner of the bar was served a hot meal. I queried how hot food was still being served when the kitchen had been closed at 09.15pm and again met a disinterested look. As the nearest restaurant was over 1 1/2 miles away and I didn't wish to drive again after a long day on the road, I went to bed hungry! Unfortunately, I was woken at about 5.30am by creaking floorboards in the room above, clanking water pipes, water running in a shower and also flushing cisterns. I think that it's safe to say that the rooms are not well insulated! The only good point of my stay was breakfast which was plentiful and tasty - although I could have eaten anything by that stage as I was so hungry! I informed reception about the confusion over kitchen timings, but again was met with disinterest, although he did scribble 'dinner problem' on my bill, but didn't take any details and didn't even offer an apology. Not a great stay and I can't recommend the hotel. I won't be going back and will inform my company not to use the hotel unless absolutely necessary.

Held our Xmas party night here for the first time but certainly won't be the last. We had an amazing night. The food was fabulous and the staff were delightful. We stayed over and although the room was a little basic it was spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was great, help yourself to cereal and then your choice made to order. Again top notch and excellent service.

    « Lovely Comfortable Hotel »

We arrived quite early at the hotel and Bradley on reception welcomed us. Our room was not available and he was very helpful, supplying us with a map of York and giving useful information on local transport and attractions. The car park is quite small but we managed to get a space and therefore left the car and used the excellent bus service. The hotel is like a country house with a comfortable lounge to relax in. Our room ?Mrs Bridges? was clean and cosy. Cooked breakfast was very good indeed and waiting staff were attentive. We found all staff to be friendly and helpful. The party night on the Saturday was well organised and food and service were very good. The DJ was enthusiastic and kept the dance full. We enjoyed our stay at the York Pavilion and hope to return.

One night stay on Thursday 10th December. Lovely old building full of character, friendly welcome at reception on arrival. On this occasion we were allocated an absolutely enormous room, complete with 4-poster bed, sofa in the bay window, spacious bathroom. All very clean. Evening meal was extremely nice - as has been previously - and the breakfast excellent also in the lovely old dining room..... makes it "homely". As on previous visits - just "really nice and comfortable". Very handy location with bus stops opposite hotel to get you in and out of York somewhat cheaper and less frustrating than by car

Just had a weekend break here with my hubby and friends and Wow it's is a lovely hotel,so cosy and inviting staff where all so friendly and could not do enough for us,food was great value and not too over priced, room was a little small but was clean and fresh so didn't mind The breakfast was just delicious with so much choice,I think i tried a little bit of everything over the weekend Even met the lovely owners on our first night while having a few drinks in the bar (didn't believe they was the owners as I thought he was pulling my leg,but did ask a staff member lol lol ) As we have used Best Western hotels for 10 years now I have to say this has been the BEST so far and will most definitely be back and looking forward to our next visit. Even our friends have converted to Best Western hotels now.

    « Is it me ? »

Very pretty outside ,room bog standard ..very mediocre, but clean ..stayed in botanical room ..I'm thinking bathroom looks tired and when I turned shower on full it watered the ceiling so maybe need a new shower head ???????? Bus service right outside hotel ..brillant straight into centre On our return that evening we headed to bar to be served by friendly young girl who proceeded to make our lattes and bring them over and by the time she had finished trying to make them look perfect they were barely warm ..I don't care what my coffee looks like ,I just want it to be hot ! Breakfast ..staff very pleasant and polite but had to ask for salt and pepper along with 2 other tables ,bought sugar bowl with barely 2 spoonfuls in it for two people and completely neglected to tell us where buffet was placed, had to go find it myself but looked and tasted terrific ,and fry up was excellent Overall a pleasant stay but I'm afraid I feel £150 for b n b is overpriced but I understand it's york ...but in future I will book more in advance and go for premier that's just as good in all aspects and half the price and in the town centre

« Beautiful, Country House Style hotel »

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. You really felt that you were in a luxury hotel, the decor, a four-poster, old, hand carved bed! Convenient if you want to visit York in respect that it's not far from all the main attractions, on the park and ride route. Also near the designer shopping village but sufficiently far enough away to be quiet. Dinner alone is worth staying there, the restaurant is very popular with people who aren't even staying there.

We stayed here at the end of November. Our room was on the top floor and encountered quite a few stairs to climb. The room was a bit tired looking but very clean. I was worried about being cold but needn't have worried. All staff were very friendly & great location for town centre.

Mum and I headed to York for a couple of days for a wee bit of Crimbo shopping and stayed in the Pavilion Hotel. What a great hotel!! Whether you require a conference, party, or just like us, staying for the shopping, then this is the hotel to choose. The food was stunning and the staff exceptional. The whole place was just filled with friendliness. If you are going for the shopping, the hotel sits on the easiest bus route to the city center or the Outlet village. xxxx

« Lovely looking, something missing »

We travelled to York as part of an 80th Birthday gift. The hotel looked nice from the outside. The rooms were very chintsy. There were some nice touches in the room and it seemed clean but there was just something missing. It was just a collection of small things that took the shine off the hotel. We had 3 rooms and despite paying the same amount and the fact they were booked at the same time they were different. Two were pokey and dated. Ours was nice enough. When the neighbouring rooms used their shower there was a very high piched noise. The bathroom door in our room didn't really close properly and the handle was too close to the frame so if you managed to close it fully you would hurt your hand. The staff in the morning at breakfast were great and helpful but in the evenings it could be a bit of a ghost house at times. The hotel was poorly signposted and also could be a bit of a maze. The carpark was also far to small given the number of guests staying when we were there. Overall it was a good base for visiting York it was warm, dry, clean and relatively friendly.

    « Dreadful »

Found mans jacket in our wardrobe when we arrived. Heating in our room did not work. Had a terrible experience with our meal. Ordered two different bottles of wine, given the wrong ones, when we queried we were told the manager had lost the keys to the wine cupboard! When wine did arrive, had to get a gent on another table to open it! Had to ask 8 times for ice in a J2O. One of our party is Gluten Free - she wrote on the order pad exactly what she wanted on her plate - meal arrived with a sausage sat on top! Second meal looked re-heated - Manager agreed it was below their normal standard & replaced it with a slightly better looking one, Ordered cheese and crackers, manager said she would ensure crackers (gluten) were served on a separate plate - they arrived on the same bread board together - 3 miniscule slices of cheese. The whole level of service by the Chef and Bar Staff was disgraceful. The Manager was brilliant & very apologetic. However, I was unwell the next day and the hotel have failed to ring me back as promised.

    « Fabulous Wedding Venue »

On Saturday 5th December 2015 my family were guests at a wedding held here. It is licenced to carry out civil marriage ceremonies and from our experience there is probably nowhere in Britain that does the whole experience better ! This hotel is a former large Georgian house, so being Christmas time, the splendour of the magnificent interior of high ceilings, friezes and cornices along with a large decorated Xmas tree standing proudly in a hallway really gave us some wonderful Christmas spirit. The wedding was perfect! The bride looked beautiful and the lucky groom did a brilliant job of entertaining us with an hilarious speech at the reception. Food was first class! We had prawn cocktail for starters, chicken wrapped in bacon for main course and chocolate brownie topped with ice cream and a strawberry for dessert. The large dining room was converted into a disco for the evening so we could boogie the night away! The hospitality was second to none. The attentive impeccably dressed staff in smart uniform were plenty in number, polite and helpful at all times. If you are thinking of a wedding or business meeting or just going out for a meal, my family and I would thoroughly recommend The York Pavilion.

Hotel extremely clean. Staff very courteous and friendly. Dined in the restaurant food superb. Hotel handily placed for access to city centre about 30 minutes walk. Would definitely stay here again if visiting the area. Regular bus service from outside the hotel into the city so you can park your car in the car park and leave it there when accessing most of Yorks central amenities.

    « Great venue for a group »

I was at the Pavilion hotel, Fulford yesterday for our annual lunch of the disabled swimming club. The venue had a good atmosphere and although several guests were in wheelchairs there was no problem. The staff were friendly and efficient. The private room that we had was beautifully decorated and warm and the food could not be faulted. I would have given an extra point if it had a better car park. The lighting is poor, there are steps on the path leading to it and it took ages for cars trying to negotiate to exit, faced with those trying to enter. Overall an enjoyable visit and I would happily return. I am only reviewing the restaurant and have not stayed at the hotel.

First service all the staff were polite, helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and cosy, but you could not open the window, the room was very warm. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room. The food was excellent and good value for money. We could not see out of the window because it was low and there was a tree outside.

Excellent hotel, cozy, friendly, food was great breakfast was extensive and very satisfying, staff very efficient, very clean and warming, definitely worth the visit, there is a designer outlet very code to the hotel which is worth a visit, the number 7 bus takes you straight there for only £1 I will return when I'm next in York

    « "We'll Be Back" »

Really nice place to stay when visiting York. Very friendly and attentive staff. We had a lovely room with a four poster bed, which was a first for us..... I have to say the breakfast was excellent. We had fresh fruit salad to start amongst an array of fantastic choices. The cooked breakfast was as good as I have had! The hotel is a bit far to walk to where the action is in York, but an excellent bus service means this really doesn't matter. Heartily recommend??

Loved this hotel, the whole setting appealed to me very much. A lot of time and effort had gone into making this hotel very warm, welcoming and attractive. I was a single, but my rom was a lovely double, very clean with everything to hand. Tea/coffee facilities were very good, they didn't skimp on the milk or biscuits! The dining table for dinner looked lovely, decorated with candles/candelabra, and plenty of iced water. Food was excellent, the chef made a lemon tart one evening which was so delicious. All the staff were attentive and did a very good job.

« Great stay for wedding »

Fabulous wedding, great staff and excellent breakfast. Couldn't have asked for nicer welcome at reception, comfortable room, breakfast very busy but staff couldn't do enough for us, I'd definitely recommend this hotel. We're quite local, stayed for a friends wedding, but for someone wanting the sights of York, this hotel has excellent regular buses into the city and train station.

What more can I say? Everything about the hotel was great. Food, staff , service, rooms. As I work away from home most of the time I go to lots of different hotels and this ranks as one of the best! Thank you

« Good weekend in York »

We had a good weekend in York doing the touristy things. Hotel a bit old but still good as a base. Had 2 excellent meals with the staff being very friendly and helpful. Would use it again if in the area.

« Best Western York Pavilion »

Very nice hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. Easy to walk into the city or there is a bus every 10 mins. We had B&B for 3 nights. The Breakfast was very good and the room was clean and comfortable. Everything we needed for a short break. We were lucky with the weather during our visit and York is always beautiful with plenty to do. We were also in a good location for visiting the Designer Outlet Village.

    « Great for Tourists »

We stayed here for hubby's Birthday as we got a great rate with breakfast included. The hotel is a little way out of town but buses are very frequent and a taxi cost us under £5 during the day and around £7 at night, so for four of us on a very rainy weekend it worked out better value than the bus! Our room was clean, warm and cosy with a lovely period sash window looking out onto a small courtyard. The shower was very good although the toilet took aaaaages to fill. We had a good night's sleep here. Hubby liked that an iron and board were in the wardrobe and I was very happy to find a little teapot on the tray. Service at breakfast was very slow, we had quite a wait before we ordered drinks and our hot breakfasts. However, the buffet selection kept us occupied, a huge variety of cereals, fruit and pastries were on offer together with freshly made yogurt and compote trifles. When breakfast arrived it was hot and tasty, the eggs were cooked well and a camomile tea was kindly provided on request. I would certainly stay here again and would like to sample the restaurant, the menu left in our room piqued my interest but we had already booked in town.

    « Afternoon tea »

Our party of five received a very warm welcome for afternoon tea on a circular table in the dining room. The ambiance was lovely, and the table beautifully set. A wide selection of hot drinks was available to suit all of us, (not just tea and coffee), and we received a varied selection of sandwiches and cakes as well as cream scones. Plentiful, with more than we could eat. The staff were all really courteous and helpful, and we enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon. Thank you.

« Great location and good value for money »

Off street parking and plenty of it was the first bonus and they are on the bus route into town. The rooms were lovely, the breakfast was great and the staff were very friendly. There was a bit of noise in the courtyard below our room at night, but apart from that, no complaints, we loved our stay here.

    « Don't bother unless it's your last hope »

Very average for the cost of the room, breakfast looked like it had been chucked on the plate, very sloppy service and if you want a cup of tea, take you're own teabags, because clearly their on ration in this establishment. Be careful in the shower it's either freezing cold or boiling hot.

« Pleasant hotel with very good restaurant »

A very pleasent hotel. with a very good restaurant. Rooms were clean and well furnished. Staff were very helpful and the service very good. We ate in the restaurant one evening, very good menu and the food was superb. The hotel was very busy, so clearly popular. We can see why

« Some excellent staff, let down by management »

I was attending an AGM and dinner at The York Pavilion Hotel and have mixed views about this beautifully furnished and historic hotel. On arrival the car park could only be described as chaotic as spaces are not marked out, vehicles were parked blocking the entrance and exit routes but eventually as one car pulled out I was able to park. Going inside the one porter at reception was trying to book in four guests from a wedding at the venue, answer the phone, which rang three times while I was waiting, and also advise me where in the hotel the event was. Clearly he couldn't do that all on his own despite his best endeavours so result was five people in reception not happy with the service. Eventually advised where the bar was and went to join colleagues. Single bar staff ? Megan ? did fantastic job coping with wedding guests, our party and hotel's normal guests but again couldn't cope on own and give speedy service although she remained very pleasant and smiling throughout the evening. For some reason it seems she was only allowed to bring one item from store cupboard at once (e.g. one carton of orange juice instead of several). Sadly the barf didn't offer grapefruit juice, my drink of choice when driving. Eventually went to room where dining. Again mixed service here. No salt or pepper on table when arrived and had to wait until main course for it to arrive. Beautiful fresh bread arrived and then 10 minutes later the butter arrived as finishing the starter. Having been in catering we usually made sure these were on table before guests came into the room as helps improve service. Waitress Eve was efficient and pleasant and run off her feet looking after 25 guests largely on her own. The meal ? prawn and crayfish cocktail, chicken in bacon with nicely cooked vegetables, and a lemon tart ? was very good, well presented, tasty and at right temperature. If management had a couple of extra staff on duty the whole evening would have run much more smoothly and I would be a very satisfied customer. Because of lack of staff I am in two minds about whether I would go back here again.

« Truly lovely Hotel with a very charming interior & a very professional team »

We have stayed in this hotel many times and love it. The ingredients are all there. Very pretty outside and very welcoming inside. Staff are so helpful and professional. The hotel has a very authentic & rustic, yet grand feel to it. Beautiful butter-warm colors and interior design and architecture create a french feeling. There are several very lovely cosy historic dining rooms for evening meals and breakfasts, all have the same warm, quality feeling to them, all are rustic and feel genuine. Tartan carpets appear here and there to add a rather special country feeling. Breakfasts are wonderful with a very good choice and helpful attending staff in their smart aprons and formal wear, are eager to make sure you feel respected and welcomed. Nothing is too much trouble, the entire team just seem happy to make you happy. Rooms are just the right size with a very warm & welcoming ambiance. This hotel is a little gem in a busy world. Getting into York is really easy with a regular bus route which takes around 7 mins or so. Free car parking makes this so nice too. A great stay and one which we will continue to enjoy. we'd recommend this hotel to anyone. A wonderful hotel for a wedding celebration too. Wonderful !

« Convenient location, good value »

Easy, comfortable feel. Good food at small family wedding reception. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Maybe in need of some updating but good value at the price. Very warm and cosy. Night porter a bit of a misery but the only one. Ample parking.

« Expensive and not worth the money »

We stayed at this hotel on Friday evening. The cost of the room was £136 for room only. I know that you expect to pay York prices for hotels, and I don't mind that as York is a wonderful city. The hotel is located in Fulford which is a mile and a half or so outside the City Centre. I guess it depends what you want from a city break because you can pay the same money and get a premier inn or Travel Lodge situated in the immediate city centre, or you can enjoy an autumnal walk in from the Best Western. I prefer the second of these options and the hotel itself for me is perfectly situated and easily accessible from the A64. I stayed at the Best Western roughly 8 years ago and was impressed by the character of the building, the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff. Some 8 years later, the building still retains character, the staff are friendly, efficient and professional, however, parts of the hotel appear to be tired and in need of a refurb. We were initially allocated room 14 and upon dropping our bags off in the room, were disappointed at the quality of the room for the money paid. We returned at 2330hrs after venturing into york for a meal and a beer and upon returning to the room, were dismayed to find that the room stank of drains and sewage. Upon close inspection of the bathroom, I found that the bath had mould around the edges, the sink had a large gaping crack and the entire bathroom felt dirty. I rang reception to complain and they were accommodating, initially offering us some air freshner which we declined and were then offered 'the chinese room' as an upgrade. We were advised that this room was above a wedding party. This was fine, the room was ok, not amazing, not £136 worth of room but ok. The next morning we went for breakfast, unfortunately, this was chaotic, not enough tables for disgruntled customers who were queuing in a disorganised way for tables. We opted against breakfast in the end and walked into York for something to eat. Our stay was disappointing at the Best Western. We won't be coming back as the hotel is overpriced for the standard of room you get.

    « Pavilion Hotel York »

We had a wonderful time at the pavilion hotel 23 & 24th Oct in York and would not hesitate to recommend it to other travelers. I was a bit apprehensive about staying at this hotel as it was not in the center of York. However there was ample free parking at the hotel and the No 7 bus stopped every 10 mins at the door of the hotel which ran directly into York center. I used my Best Western point to book the room and paid an additional £20 to upgrade to a superior room. the food was good and the staff were very helpful. It had weddings both nights we stayed which were a bit noisy and we were at the front of the hotel on the main road which was a bit noisy but overall a good all round experience with nice staff and good food. « Poor Quality over priced »

Initial room shocking. 2nd room basic, noisy, could here every step from above. Breakfast served cold, waiter said he would take it off the bill, at check out it was still on the bill. Over priced, 125 pound a nignt, Must be York prices, Staff good saved the day. In Milan a few weeks ago, central, 55 pound a night fantastic . No comparison. Can not recommend this hotel.

    « Not The Best »

Arrived York Pavilion Hotel late afternoon. Having booked in we went to our room, on the way there I said to the wife that the hall carpet had a very thick underlay beneath it, suspicious. On entering the room it was nowhere near the £149.00 standard we paid for. Whilst in the room the noise from next door could be heard. Having gone out for dinner due to the fairly exspensive hotel meals we returned and went to bed at 2130 only to be woken up at 0145 by banging, talking, laughing etc. this went on until 0300 during which time I had gone to eception to pay bill and leave it was that bad but no one was there. We got back to sleep after 0300 only to be woken again at 0630 had enough by this time. go dressed and went for breakfast. breakfast wasn't much better the waiter in my absense took the order from my wife who wasn,t sure how I.d want my egggs the waiter said i,ll just put down poached. Another waiter asked if we would like tea or coffee after 15 minutes we had to go and ask for tea and coffee. The person who looked in charge spent more time setting tables and taking orders than supervising as a manager should. Still this Hotel falls far short of what we exspect from a Best Western Hotel, sadly depremental to their good name. finally you guest it we would definately go back to York but not to this Hotel.

« Lovely building, nice staff, quiet room & a lovely walk along the river into York town centre »

We came for a weekend on 9th & 10th October. We asked for a quiet room and were given one in a quad area which was at the back of the bar, and it was lovely - it felt really secluded and private, almost like a little cottage somehow. We were told there was a wedding on when we arrived, but we didn;t hear anything at all. The only slight niggle was that phone reception was poor and wifi non-existent until we left the room, but they weren't essential to us, so the privacy more than made up for it. It's a pretty building, and the walk into town, through Fulford Park and then along the river, was absolutely lovely, but there were also frequent buses if you're not into walking or the weather isn't great. i'd definitely recommend and would return.

    « A Brief Stay »

Booked into this hotel for 2 nights during a recent trip to the United Kingdom. On arriving in York stopped to see if there was a vacancy for a twin room. Staff very friendly, food excellent, room very comfortable and quiet. Plenty of off street parking so left our car and used the local bus to go into the city of York. Bus stop right outside hotel both coming and going. Hotel has country feel, grounds very pleasant. Great venue for weddings as there was a wedding taking place the day we arrived. We had dinner in the formal dining room one night, food was excellent 10 out of 10. Extremely happy with the breakfast menu as well. Sufficient power points for charging. Room spacious as well as bathroom.

« Could do better - Should be better............. »

The soundproofing between floors and walls is not adequate (non existent) I do not stay in a Hotel to hear other people in adjacent rooms visit the toilet Etc. Etc. I appreciate its a listed Building but you can still fit soundproofing. In its favour the quality of breakfast was excellent. Over the years we have used many B W. Hotels they are normally of good quality and value but this is one I would try not to use again.

    « great wedding venue »

Attended a wedding over the weekend and found this hotel a great venue. Arrived a couple of days before hand and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Our room was large and clean and there was lots of hot water. Other members of our group arrived from America early one day and the staff went out of their way to change their room for another as it was not ready so that they could have a sleep. Food of excellent quality and the staff could not do enough to help The wedding itself went off well and we had a great disco during the evening . Daisy, the wedding organiser, ensured that everything happened on schedule and the reception room looked lovely A really nice place to stay very close to central York and would definately recoomend.

« Weekend at York Races »

Booked 6 months in advance and cost £191 for B&B at this hotel close to the Knavesmire. Hotel has a country house vibe with many staircases and hallways. We were in room 11 which appeared to be in the attic, but away from noise of functions elsewhere in the hotel. Narrow steep staircase wasn't the best for my current knee issues. Room was clean and comfy with period fixtures and fittings which have seen many coats of paint..our shower needed a new shower head. Staff were pleasant and helpful throughout, esp at breakfast which was super. Lots of choices and the staff were really accommodating any special food or dietary requests. Parking at the hotel is plentiful but can get quickly full due to functions. it is around two miles to the city but is a pleasant walk along the river, and the hotel sits on a bus route (every 10 mins). Loved the connection to Bond composer John Barry

A very attractive building within walking distance of the centre of York though quite a step. Room was comfortable and clean and there are pleasant grounds though the weather was poor so we did not get to use them. Pleasant staff and good breakfast

« Nice building, staff need more training »

Nice period house although bedrooms are tired and need updating (just adding brighter bulbs will help). Staff on whole seem disinterested but this could just be a lack of training. Value for money was fine but given the distance from York centre I think it probably is focussed on weddings and events rather than day to day business.

« Wonderful Hotel with Lots of Charm »

In a lovely part of York, the Pavilion is a lovely little hotel with loads of character. The staff are warm and friendly, the food very good and a reasonably priced hotel to book. I would define go again and recommend to business people and couples. Very nice in deed.

Room was clean and quiet, with small bathroom ensuite. but the décor was a bit tired. Pillows and mattress very tired! Could have asked for replacements, but stuck it out for the short stay. We did not try the brasserie -- looked a tad pricey.Good breakfast choices, excellent staff.

    « Nice hotel »

We stayed for one night and gained the OK for one night as we enquired via 'visit york' the hotel contacted us immediately to confirm the booking which was great. Most hotels in cities or near cities only do 2 night stays over a weekend but we only needed one as visiting our daughter who is atbuni, gets expensive if all visits are 2 nights. Only one person on reception when we checked in at 5pm so took a little longer than it needed too really, hotel had a wedding on which may have affected reception, other thqn that it didn't affect or interference with normal holiday business which we were impressed with. We had a lovely room, small but we only needed to sleep there, opened onto an walkway through the hotel which is fine, until a lady decided to feed her 2 small children a yoghurt at 7am on a Sunday morning, we were awake already so no bother and it actually made us smile to listen to them chatting. Breakfast was great, we were seated in a dining room at the front, so abit of a walk to the cold breakfast selection area. But the great breakfast made it OK, hot, good election and nice dry fried food not swimming in greasstaff lovely and gave us directions to walk into York, it takes about 40 minutes and a very nice walk itnis too. Will stay again if we can get an OK price, its not expensive but still quite a lot for a hotel not in York.
