York Pavilion Hotel, Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western

My room was clean and comfortable etc but biggest part of a hotel are the people who run the place and I had a very warm and friendly yet professional welcome. I've stayed here quite a few times and this is no ordinary hotel, there is something special about it.

Booked this break along with my son and his family. We stayed in the apartments across the road from the hotel. I was impressed with the apartment it was very clean and comfortable and well equipped. The location was great.A park and ride service runs just outside the hotel and there are several good pubs within a short distance. Would go again.

We were told because of Covid the hotel was closed but that we were being 'upgraded' to their apartments across the road. It was certainly not an upgrade, it was horrible, like a halfway house between prison and the outside world. The TV didn't work, the kitchen didn't have a bread knife, a bread board or a corkscrew and there was a flood in the vestibule outside our room. The poor gentleman who had to see us in, sort us out a corkscrew and deal with the flood was all alone - management nowhere to be seen during this most difficult of times for hotels. On top of this they were going to charge us for breakfast for three days until I complained - they refunded the money for those but in no way made up for the place we were put in.

It was horrible unfriendly and damn right unpleasant and if I could rate 0 I would dont bother unless you have money they are not interested it is all pomp and ceremony downstairs but the room we were in was discussing

Today, in line with government advice about non essential travel we cancelled our break, which was due to take place at the end of the month, at this hotel. The reservation section at reception immediately emailed us saying that we were liable for the full amount of our booking amounting to £240. We emailed back to the hotel pointing out that the booking conditions, which we had in an earlier email, allowed us free cancellation. The relevant document was scanned and sent to them. It was only at that point that they agreed to cancel the booking without any financial liability on our part. No apology was offered. We do feel that this was either an attempt to exploit clients for financial gain or gross incompetence on the part of the management. The reception said that the owner, a Mr Coussins was not accepting telephone calls. We do feel that the hotel should demonstrate flexibility to other clients who may not even have a cancellation clause. If they either offered a refund or a voucher for a future booking they would maintain good will and in the long run preserve their business. It is in everyone's interests to consider the wider implications of actions at this difficult time.

Just had a lovely 2 day stay at this hotel lovely staff and food clean and comfy recommend to anyone going to York. The food was the best I have had in any hotel I have stayed.Compliments to the chef.

We chose to stay in York for a few days following our Ruby wedding anniversary. I rather liked the dining menu shown online for this hotel, so booked it. The hotel is in quite an old building, rather nice really. Our room was a superior room, bed was firm, but I managed to sleep. There was plenty of parking and a bus stop just over the road. The breakfasts were plentiful, sadly the dinner menu had changed, and was a tad limited as we were staying 5 nights. Fish and chips and burgers are not my choice when staying in a hotel. The food was good and plentiful, and the chefs were willing to provide different dishes if we did not fancy what was on the menu. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was a slight problem over the final bill, but we left without knowing the outcome. My only niggle was the lack of overhead lighting in the rooms. It would have been nice to be shown the lounges too.

We were meeting friends who lived nearby so decided to stay overnight in order to save having to drive back (even though it was only to Leeds!) The cost for room and breakfast was good value; the standard room (no. 52) was nice and clean, a decent size and had everything you'd expect (excellent bath/shower!) Langtons Brasserie offered a good quality 3 course set price meal, with a decent choice of dishes available and, crucial for a positive review, the staff were excellent throughout, always friendly and polite. It was only a one night's stay but we could easily have made it a few more if we were visiting York or other nearby places. The following morning's breakfast (serve yourself) was very good quality and, again, there was a decent selection on offer. Overall, I would happily recommend the Pavilion.

On the surface of things it dose look quite grand and cosy , however our room was very small and without any heating, also the flooring under the carpet is very old and creeks loudly - hence sleep was disturbed. The previous occupants used glass's had not been replaced, we requested clean ones, however this took approx 45 mins. The car park is also very small and some vehicles are parked up in random ways, also , my vehicle got pranged - not much damage, but intensely irritating, and apparently there is no CCTV covering the carpark where I was parked. We certainly will not darken their doors again.

Myself and my wife celebrated out 25th Silver wedding anniversary at this hotel. Although we would have preferred a suite, or similar, the room we were given was very nice indeed. The rooms were very clean and well presented. The Hotel gave us a bottle of Prosecco and a box of chocolates to celebrate our anniversary. Each room has a safe for valuables. The staff were very nice and helpful. We made use of the spa facilities and pool, free of charge as it was included in the price. After a long walk around York we used the hotel restaurant and had a very nice evening meal. Again the staff were excellent and the waiter who attended ourselves was a very knowledgeable chap called Roberto. Breakfast the next day was a buffet style cooked English. You could also have the ubiquitous cereals and pastries also, if you required. I cannot fault the hotel at all. I was very pleased with the staff, room (even I did want a slightly better one) and all associated with the hotel. It's at the side of the train station in York and and can be accessed from the entrance off the main platform. Couldn't be easier.

What a great hotel , from the moment we arrived to the moment we sadly left we could not fault this hotel. The staff are some of the best we have ever met ,Shelby and Alla on the bar ,Matthew who took my booking and Rosemary who ran the breakfast service who was a star in her own right and all the others without exception made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was nice, warm with everything you might need for your stay .The chefs produce some of the nicest food which is always piping hot , the breakfast selection is vast and all the hot food is cooked to order which is really nice , another good thing is the location of this hotel ,if you want to go either into York of the Designer outlet there are bus stops within 100 yards of the hotel and the buses are every 15 mins , if you fancy a change of scenery there is at least 3 pubs to the left of the hotel and 1 right next door which has been recently taken over , but really you have everything you need in this hotel with a wonderful residents lounge with an open fire which we had lit and sat with other guests one night puting the world to right ,this hotel is a gem and a credit to the owners and all who work there, we will return and when we do it will be for a longer stay ,thank you all for a great time .

What a lovely evening my wife and I had last Friday night, lovely dinner food nicely cooked hot and well presented, staff we're great. The entertainment was really good, singer was excellent all night people were enjoying themselves, it was well worth it such a nice evening all round

Friendly relaxed Hotel close to York City Centre - wheelchair friendly (ish) but not perfect for anyone who can't stand up - grab bars to one side of toilet only & toilet very low so not easy to transfer from wheelchair without assistance...grab bars in shower & shower chair provided but it was a fully seated attendant chair so not suitable for washing sensitive parts & not suitable for use over the toilet - so be careful if you have these needs - my husband has 1 working leg but struggledis unable to stand without something to hold on to so needed my help with his bathroom requirements which was not ideal....the room was lovely but we had to push the beds up against the window to get the wheelchair alongside - only just enough room for standard self propelled wheelchair - if assistance is required this may not be suitable.....having said that we enjoyed our stay & the staff were lovely

Close to the University and open all hours! Booking for a one night stay and needing to arrive late after a long journey.. this could not have been easier or friendlier. Clean well equipped rooms and very cosy and furnished. Highly recommended.

This visit was our 4th visit to the pavilion hotel, it suits our needs perfectly. The hotel stands on the A19 which takes you directly into york city centre. The hotel has very pleasant friendly staff and we are always greeted with a friendly smile. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a fab bathroom and shower. Ample parking is avaiable. You can get a bus outside the hotel into york number 7 £4.50 return, which is much cheaper than paying to park. We will definately be returning to the pavilion.

Just had afternoon tea at this lovely hotel.The first time we have visited. The food was lovely and fresh and the baking of the scones and cakes were home made. Service by the attentive waiter was excellent.Would definitely be back for a stay and food.The next table were having meals and they looked beautiful.Well done everybody

We stayed in a ground floor room. The room was spacious enough, desk/dressing table and immaculate bathroom. The building of the hotel is beautiful and the service and staff were fabulous. Our breakfast was fantastic and cooked to our liking.

The hotel was warm and welcoming, from the lovely receptionist (who gave us lots of helpful information including the local bus service to get to the centre of York without driving) to the restaurant and bar staff, who were always friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious (in particular the battered fish and trifle). The rooms were spacious and the bed extremely comfortable.

Stayed here with friends on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast was fine however was very disappointed with dinner. The kitchen clearly hadn't catered enough and some of the starters and deserts had run out giving limited choice. I ended up with cheese and biscuits which I didn't really want only to discover there wasn't even cheddar on there. All strong French cheese, noting English. Not everyone likes blue cheese and granted this was removed but not everyone likes strong smelling cheese either. I ended up leaving it.

We have stayed here with friends for the last 3 years on the New Year package. Last New Year was fantastic & we rebooked immediately. This time, one of our party who is partially-sighted was told at check-in that the room wasn't available for the first night as it had been sold to another guest. We asked to speak to the manager & a lady called Chrissy proceeded to tell us that we had only booked a TYPE of room & NOT a room number, despite ALL of our booking confirmations being ROOM NO. specific. The replacement was dark & nothing like the size nor quality of the one she'd paid for. The hotel is an old building with charm & character but in the last 12 months has gone downhill dramatically. In places it looks dishevelled & dirty. Every fitting in our room was coated in thick dust & cobwebs. It was gloomy as only 3 out of 5 downlights worked. The carpet had pieces of dried spaghetti on it. We found a disposable razor cap behind the bathroom door & the shower grout needs replacing. Then the ultimate disgrace, a smear of excrement in the toilet pan & a toilet brush covered in bits of wet loo roll. Only the sheets and towels were clean! The food too was well below par with the exception of our Final evening meal. At the Gala Dinner we saw quite a few plates being sent back. Some waiting-on staff didn't turn up for work on NY morning so breakfast was chaotic. The final straw was housekeeping entering our room WITHOUT KNOCKING at 7.45am on our last day whilst we were still in bed!

Stayed here for a couple of nights between Xmas and New Year. Mainly picked here as I was visiting family who lived less than a 10 minute walk away. Room was large, with a comfy bed and a fair sized en-suite bathroom. Breakfast wasn't too bad, but nothing special to be honest. Did have a burger one evening and that was really good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bit pricey for what you got, but it was handy for me. Would probably have given it 3 stars, but the staff and burger just swayed it for 4 stars.

We stayed for 2 nights over the new year period with another couple who took a small dog.We requested a speculative room upgrade and were given room 49 The Grandad Wooley Room with a 4 poster bed and large bathroom, which we were very pleased with. The hotel was decorated for Christmas and being a traditional style hotel was done very tastefully. We had breakfast served on the first day , the staff appeared to be under pressure but we wre served a decent breakfast after waiting half an hour for our order to be taken.On new years day we were in the main dining room where a buffet style breakfast was available which was an improvement over day 1. Our friends had an annex room which appears to be for those who bring pets but the rooms looked to be satisfactory. The hotel is approx. 40 minutes walk from the centre of York, we took the lovely park riverside route with our friends having a dog. this would be our recommended route having walked back the road route. The No 7 designer outket bus picks up and drops off outside the hotel but for £2 each its as cost effective to get a taxi for similar money for 4 people. The hotel is on the main road into York and gets traffic jammed at peak times. The staff were very friendly and offered local advice. All in all a lovely short break, we would highly recommend the jotel and would return without hesitation.

We arrived at this hotel after driving from Exeter, staying just one night, but loved it! Once we identified the entrance to the hotel and car parking area, the service was great, staff friendly, room clean and tidy. The hotel had a great comfy feel, the staff were all very helpful, happy and good at what they did. Would definetly stay here sgain

This wasn't our first visit on boxing day to the pavillion, but can safely say it will be our last. Service and food was shockingly poor. Late starters, constant reminders to waitering staff of missing starters. The main meals were cold and the vegetarian meals turned up after 15 minutes of everyone else's. The staff had no direction from someone in charge and this was obvious throughout the day. Every table either returned their food or complained about it. We didn't think they could go that wrong with the desserts, however the Cheesecake was sour and looked like it had been sat out all night. We were given a discount after waiting for the general manager but sadly this didn't redeem our confidence in the pavillion and we will not return.

Booked a package . No cream for the Cream Tea on arrival . Booked believing to be an A la carte menu . One was even present in room . Told by manger this had been removed by head chef. Surely we should have been informed before arrival . Only 'comfort menu ' on offer basically pub food and not everything was available . The whole meal was not edible sat 45 minutes between main course and dessert. Manger was called 6 tables all complaining about the menu or lack of it . One couple left and went into York . Manager did not resolve issue . Breakfast just as bad self service buffet scrambled egg green had been in servers too long. Even staff were weiry because of all the complaints. Disgrace never again

Bad , uncomfortable beds and smell in the bathroom . But friendly service and nice food during christmas party. Bathroom neess.upgradinh and beds to be more comfortable. Staff are very friendly but. Need more attention to detail .

Spent 5 days here over Christmas. All just about OK until Christmas Day....then it was a total shambles we were shown to our table in a room about as far away as possible. We waited, and waited and waited. After almost 45 minutes our starters were brought by obviously inexperienced staff. The soup was tepid and under seasoned. The roulade was miniscule, about the size of a 50pence piece. Neither were particularly good. Then we waited some more until eventually we saw a member of staff walking round looking slightly lost, caring some small bowls of sorbet. We asked it was for us, and received 2 portions of sorbet which had melted. Again, we waited. Eventually the wait became unbearable and I had to seek relief. As I ventured to the toilets I noticed 3 ladies seated and chatting. One was the champagne pourer. I was asked if everything was OK. I replied that there was likely to be a rebellion if something wasn't done soon in the room we were in. I suggested that it needed some one to manage the chaos. When I returned to my table and enquired, I was told no-one had been to see what was happening. By this time we had been there more than 2 hours and, like most others in the room, were so disgruntled that we gave up all hope of Christmas Dinner. Then surprise, surprise, the turkey arrived. 2 Small rounds cut off a roll, no pigs in blankets, no stuffing, strange “roast” potatoes and a bit of gravy. The whole thing was on a cold plate and the food itself was cold. no vegetables so we went in search of someone to explain we had a main course but no vegetables. When some vegetables did arrive, the beans were over cooked and the cauliflower, sprouts and carrots were raw. Why did all this happen? I can hazard a guess. Too many covers (200+) the kitchen could not cope. Was it greed that prompted the over-booking? Add to this the lack of organisation. Nobody was responsible for the meal being brought on time. The waiting staff were wandering around from table table not knowing what and where to serve. Tables were not numbered and only in small print on a name card was what each person had ordered. At £85 a head, why was this allowed to happen? We had to leave, along with many others. The quality of food was abysmal. The service was poor. It was a memorable Christmas Lunch.......but for all the wrong reasons! Never again.

Invited by family to join them here for boxing Day lunch and overnight. They had the horrendous Christmas Day experience others describe. Boxing Day lunch was better but but by much. Our starters were small, bread was a third of a small roll ( guessed they were short of bread), main course meat good but all veg uncooked or badly cooked, desserts were ok. The service was adequate but not great over lunch. Obviously the team were recovering from a very bad Christmas Day and dealing with many complaints. The people apparently in senior positions were not visible or dismissive of residents complaints. Some of the other staff were charming and helpful in the face of adversity. They could not offer us a sandwich in the evening so we ordered a take away. Breakfast next day was cold continental only until 8.40 as there was no chef. Again the staff were fronting this up best they could Our room was clean, warm and the bed comfy and shower good.

I chose to take my family to Pavillion for.christmas day lunch. The first time I have ever done this .We chose the Pavillion at £85 per head thinking we would have a quality experience .... how wrong could we be .. where shall I start. It failed at every level it was a massive catastrophe at the highest level . The service , the timing , the experience and the quality of food were all Appalling. The management had clearly thought they could steal £85 per Head just because it was Christmas day and ‘wing it ‘ with basic, below standard, pre made food and service it with teenage inexperienced staff at minimum wage inexcusable !! Food disgusting raw , cold , not what we ordered it took 3 hours to finally receive our main course OMG see photo 1 slice of turkey roll 2 raw chipolatas and 2 oddly shaped mushy roast potatoes alL Floating in a sea of gravy granule gravy. If I had paid £10 I would be sending this inedible plate of food back ! It was a total disaster not just for my family but every single table in the room. I have Neve in my life been in a restaurant where when 1 table complained the entire room stood up and applauded !! We couldn't talk for the noise of other diners complaining and there was a queue at the desk for full refunds To my knowledge there were 230 devasted guests at the Pavillion on Christmas Day and our family for One feel that was 4 hours of our life we will never get back and an entirely ruined Christmas and want to know what the management intend to to do in Way of compensation.

I visited yesterday with my family , having been to this hotel several times for weddings I was really looking forward to it , upon arrival our welcome drinks were served and we were shown to our table , that's when it all went down hill , my melon starter arrived which would of been enough for a small child 5 wafer thin pieces of melon absolutely disappointing , to which everyone on my table started to laugh as we honestly thought it was a joke . Main course arrived all of us choosing turkey , served on freezing cold plates around 4 mins later the vegetables followed , as I could see on the table behind us they had sprouts so we waited but nothing arrived , the waitress said she just brings out what is put in the dish , ok then please could we have another dish , by this time my meal was cold , another dish arrived with 1 yes 1 sprout on , I have never had a traditional Christmas lunch without sprouts but this was going to be the case this year I then asked for gravy to be told this was an extra and I would need to request this so I did , by now we all had cold meals , the desserts were lovely but a very disappointing experience and definitely not worth £85 a total rip off , as we left I raised my disappointment with a manager who advised me to send an email which I will do , once outside the front door another gentleman was overheard shouting “the worst Christmas Day lunch he had ever had !! We went with a group of friends on Saturday evening for a Christmas party night. Arrived as a group of 14 to be shown to 2 separate tables of 7! Both the quality and definitely the quantity were sadly lacking to the point whereby the end of the evening, it was comical. The starters were served to some quizzical looks around the table - the Prawn cocktail comprised of handful of small shrimps on a few chopped pieces of iceberg lettuce with a watery Marie Rose sauce and a couple of slices of cucumber for ‘garnish' , served in a cereal bowl! Not very appetising at all. For the pate starter it was a case of hunt the pate under an array of rocket leaves with the smallest slice of melba toast you have ever seen. The soup was probably the best option but lacked seasoning, not to mention bread & butter which was distributed after most people had finished their starters . We lived in ever optimistic hope that the main course would be better. The fish dish was minuscule, one piece of cod approximately 50mm in diameter accompanied by half a dozen ‘baby' roast new potatoes was more like a starter portion. I had to say something, so handed it to the Supervisor who took it away, only to return with a second equally small piece of fish added to the plate and the excuse that was all she was allowed to give me. The shin of beef faired slightly better but with mixed reviews, but again a fairly measly portion and the Turkey dinner was ok but for a couple of very anaemic looking chipolata sausages which a decent vet could probably have revived. The vegetarian ‘pasty' option is probably best left without mention. The accompanying vegetable selection was undercooked and unimaginative . On to dessert. I hoped for some salvation with the cheese board. It comprised of two pieces of cheese, each not much bigger than a £2 coin, three tortilla chip size crackers & a couple of strips of celery. The Christmas pudding was ok but again tiny in size and the chocolate pave was again ok but lacked flavour, and bizarrely seemed to be accompanied by a dollop of a well known brand of marmalade?? Now I know serving large groups can be challenging and the Chef will be tasked to make as much profit off the food sales as possible but there is no excuse for what can only be described as, an embarrassing selection of dishes presented to those who attended Saturday evening. At £35 per head, the quality and quantity really needs to be much better.

Traditional country style hotel just outside York. Easy bus access into York . Couple of miles from park and ride. Booked a king deluxe room clean and spacious. Breakfast very good hot food made to order. Plenty of choice.

I booked the Fawlty Towers event as a surprise for my Dad and uncle. After reading some of the reviews about the Pavilion I was a little nervous about the evening. However, I had worried for no reason as the whole evening was superb. Never laughed so much in my life! The show itself was amazing but so was the environment, the room was set out lovely and the food was great. Despite the commotion going on with the show the staff were professional and fitted in around the actors well. Had so much fun. For Fawlty Towers fans this event is not to be missed, as long as you are up for a laugh!! Well done York Pavilion we will be back.

We booked the Andrews room for a special family birthday celebration as it could accommodate the 14 people in our party, also down the passageway was the hotel guests sitting room which we used to greet our party. The room was set up beautifully with the added Christmas tree & mantle decorations. We were looked after all evening by Rupesh & his team which I thought was a nice touch. The food was fabulous, presented with care & plentiful. All made for great memories.

Stayed for a weekend, easy check in. Nice reception staff. Room was clean and a decent size. Very comfy bed. Decor may not appeal to others. Breakfast was a bit chaotic on the Saturday, the staff served 3 tables who arrived after us. Good selection of food. Sunday service a lot better as there was an older lady who did well to monitor what was going on. Very pleasant stay. Food was very good.

Excellent meal for our local drama group. Private room, 4 course meal with choices for each course, excellent friendly service. Beautifully laid room with gorgeous Christmas decorations and a welcoming staff

A nicely situated hotel of character, with friendly staff and good cooking. Our stay to celebrate a special birthday (an 80th) was severely marred by lack of planning by management to cope with a large (around 50) group on tour who descended for breakfast and dinner all at once. The effect on other dining guests was to create a chaotic situation with inadequate service, empty buffet area, choices limited or no longer available. Limited staff did their best to cope but we experienced 2 inadequate breakfasts and I nearly ruined dinner. A detailed note of complaint addressed to the proprietress went unanswered, despite our contact details being given in full.

Clean enough but very thin walls. Needs a bit of TLC . The food was average. All in all a bit disappointing. Not too badly priced but would not go there again . It's definitely not for us I'm afraid. Please do something

We last visited here a few years ago and it was very good, so we were looking forward to returning, but the Pavilion has gone badly downhill or perhaps we caught it on a very poor day. The service was pretty shocking (despite it not being busy and a seemingly good number of staff) with nearly an hour from being seated to starters actually arriving; the wrong menus despite them saying Sunday lunch, so had to re-order; the food was, at best, mediocre and plenty of other annoying things, for example, serving pork roasts but "sorry, we haven't got any apple sauce" and a particularly lousy plastic plant as the table's centrepiece. Not good!! There are stacks and stacks of places serving better Sunday lunches in York, so we won't be coming back to the Pavilion Hotel.

We booked a deluxe kingsize room at the above property however when we was shown to our room it was very small with 2 single beds pushed together,the bathroom was very dated and not what I was expecting for the price we paid .I immediately went to complain and was told by the Male receptionist that the room was infact classed as a deluxe kingsize,he showed us to another room which was marginally better but still not what I would class as deluxe.the 2 single beds were so uncomfortable and the bed sheets were not big enough to fit.the bathroom was so outdated, dirty shower curtain and mould on the tiles.we had paid for breakfast which was ok apart from running out of bacon on the Sunday which was ridiculous seeing as that's a majn ingredient of a cooked breakfast.there was also a function going of on the Saturday night which was right under our room it was so loud we couldn't hear the TV ,I do feel the hotel should of informed us of this before we booked ,we did mention this to the receptionist when we checked out who was apologetic and said we should of been told when we booked in.overall not a good experience of the york pavillion, would we return unfortunately not would we recommend to friends definitely not.

The walls are paper thin and can hear next door breathing. Breakfast was terrible. Shower was non existent. To top it off, car park is not big enough to cater for everyone so cars park along the driveway and their is a wall covered by a thin bush which has nearly written my car off. Nightmare

Stayed 3 nights at this cozy hotel with two friends. Food coming out of kitchen very poor. Breakfast out of 3 days 2 were burnt. Evening meal not inspiring. Bubble and squeak, sausage and mash, burger again burnt, beef shin pie 45 mins wait, fish and chips. Last day breakfast ordered soft boiled eggs which arrived hard. The food coming out of the kitchen is saddley letting this hotel down. The staff were friendly. We had a room in the courtyard which was lovely. Warm and cozy. The bus to York was just outside the hotel ran about every 10 mins.

Friendly welcome to this beautiful old hotel. We managed to get a parking space no problem on arrival. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a drink in the bar which was pleasant enough and we chose to go into York for the evening. We caught a bus from right outside the hotel and it was a short ride into the city, making the hotel a great location for a stop over. I found the room quiet and bed very comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to others.

I stayed here one night with my CEO. Rooms very good and large, light and very clean Food was excellent, great service in the Dining room Breakfast again was very good, but rather cramped around self service area, but table service was excellent and breakfast was very good I will return when in the area

This handsome and captivating hotel nestled in leafy surroundings just outside York's walls , gave us a warm and friendly welcome on arrival, and provided us with a beautifully furnished comfortable and cosy room including a huge bathroom. A great family ambiance was evident about the hotel, it was in fact buzzing due to The Faulty Towers event being shown , yet staff were still attentive and responded to all our needs. Abbie on reception was particularly efficient and accommodating . The food we ordered via room service was delicious with choices to suit every type of taste bud. Work rest or play York Pavilion is the place to stay and will firmly be our choice for future visits to York. We highly recommend it.

This visit was a present Halloween murder mystery. The food was delivered cold. The treacle pudding had no custard. We were told the Chef had not attended.. Breakfast was similar. In the bedroom a large dark stain on the white quilt was off putting.. Poor No bread for soup.. No eggs for bfast really good lol.. Despite this We enjoyed getting away

Handy for city center 40 min walk and bus stops right outside.old building but clean,breakfast room and lounge very chilly but staff will find a fan heater if you ask.through personal choice we never used restaurant menu/cold room didn't appeal

Arrived at this hotel on Friday evening not really knowing what to expect after reading mixed reviews. What a pleasant surprise! This hotel has wonderful character with lots of quirky features. Pleasant bar area, fantastic restaurant. All areas were well heated and cosy. Friendly welcoming staff - especially Matthew on reception who went out his way to find us the perfect room and make our stay special. Also the gentleman who I believe was the restaurant manger who spent time explaining the dishes and making recommendations. The food was really beautiful - goats cheese bon bons and melt in the mouth belly pork amongst the dishes we tried, all of which were delicious and perfectly cooked. Our bedroom was perfect - large, spotlessly clean, lovely decor and really comfortable bed. Nice bathroom with a large bath and plenty of hot water. All in all an extremely enjoyable stay. We will definitely return - maybe next time during the summer so that we can enjoy all the cute little outside courtyard and garden areas.

Stayed in one of the York Pavilion Hotels apartments which are over the road from the actual hotel. We were upstairs and there was no lift which wasn't a problem for us but could be for some. The apartment was ok,but lounge carpet could do with a clean and the sofa was awfully uncomfortable and really could do with replacing. Cooking facilities are microwave, 2 ring hob and a toaster which we didn't use. Bed was comfortable and we both slept. Car park to hotel doesn't match the size of the hotel and was full so we had to park on the road which was‘nt a problem. For the price it was alright and If in the area would consider booking again

Booked this hotel for one night during half term. Booked a suite and first impressions were very good. The room was large and the bathroom was very good. It had been refurbished to a very high standard. However the radiators only got warm never hot and it was a cold night. The windows are single glazed so we had a cold night. The radiators also went off later. Next morning we woke up to find we had wasps in the room beside one of the windows. I managed to deal with about six of them but more kept coming in from somewhere. Reported it to reception at check out. This must have happened before as there was dead wasps and flies ontop of the sash window. It had not been cleaned for some time. The worst event was breakfast. They had run out of bacon. So ordered egg sausage and hash brown. The egg was the smallest possible, the sausage was under cooked and nothing extra offered or given to make up for the lack of bacon. My wife ordered scambled egg which was stuck to the plate as it had been under aheat lamp for a while. The cooked breakfast arrived while only half through our cereal and left on the table. The whole lot looked lost on huge plates. Went to make some toast but the bread does not fit the toaster so you have to turn the bread over part way through the cycle. One good thing is the location as there are bus stops outside the hotel for the city centre or the outlet. Went for evening meal at the Plough Inn just down the road and it was a lovely meal. This hotel not up to the standard I would expect from a Best Western. Staff are either poorly trained or badly supervised.

Have stayed at this hotel 3 or 4 times now and very unhappy to have to post a negative review. Do not stay in Room 54 (Library Room). we asked for another room but none were available. room is shockingly small for £185 per night without even breakfast. Room felt damp, the matress on the bed needs replacing and the ensuite was freezing. we had to get a fan heater upon a second request to reception to investigate the non working radiator in the ensuite. we have lodged a complaint and are waiting for a refund or part refund. at check out no help was forthcoming, other than it would be reported to the management. we will have yo think carefully before going back here.

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the centre of York. The hotel has off street parking that doesn't detract from the beauty and charm of the building. The building is stunning, exactly what you would hope for in such a historic area. The decor is sympathetic to the age and period of the building. The bed and furnishings are extremely comfortable. The bathroom in the suite (room 3) was a lovely modern surprise, huge with a massive walk in shower and a double ended jacuzzi bathtub, twin sinks etc. The breakfast was nice, plenty of variety and choice, fruits, pastry's, toast, cereals etc and then your choice of cooked. A full pot of tea or coffee each. Beautiful restaurant but this is popular so book if required. The same food is also available in the bar, relaxed atmosphere, very nice. The staff throughout the hotel were wonderful and only too happy to help you. Please note, this is a beautiful old hotel packed full of charm. Old buildings are not perfect but this adds to the charm. For us, this was the perfect hotel to complement our trip, our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

A reasonably priced comfortable hotel that is a 2 mile walk into the centre of York to the York Minster, so you can avoid the traffic and yet still explore this great historic City on foot. The walk into York along the river Ouse was very pleasant, you can also walk part of the way on the old City walls. We stayed 3 nights at the York Pavilion and had two rooms, 1 with a double bed and a second with 2 single beds (for our teenage kids). Our room was upgraded and we had a 4 poster which was nice. The room was a little small but it was cozy. We didn't eat at the hotel as we like to explore and eat out at different restaurants. The gardens are nice and the hotel has some history too... Musician and Score Composer John Barry lived here as a boy back in the 1930's. Would certainly consider staying here again if visiting York.

Excellent hotel in great location. Close to motorway and only a couple of miles from city centre. Car parking and a bus stop, with frequent buses, right outside! Parking and driving not good in York, so this is a plus. Lovely old building with attractive grounds. Very good menu and best Sunday Roast we have had in a hotel! Room was good size and bathroom had shower (specially asked for). Only minus was there was no lift but think there were some ground floor ones, and the hotel was full with a wedding and we booked late. Staff were very friendly and well trained and everything went smoothly.,

I am leaving this here because there was no response to my feedback card that I left for my stay on September 24/25 in room 44. First of all, a beautiful building located a short distance outside of the central York and close to the University. Now for the problems: 1. It's a great venue for weddings but when the room was booked they did not notify that they would be a wedding there the second night. There were no other rooms available and I had just been traveling internationally for 48 hours and didn't want to find my way back into central York in the rain. In addition, they neglected to mention that the music would be directly below my room and everyone would be below and outside drinking/partying until midnight when I was assured that the noise would stop. It didn't, that was fine even though I was there for business and had an important meeting first thing in the morning. The fact that I wasn't notified and that the restaurant and bar would be closed and off limits during the wedding, leaving me trapped in the room and trying to find somewhere to eat in the rain, that was okay too. What really bothered me was 2. The drain to the shower was completely blocked. After being on several flights and trains for 2 days you just at least want a hot shower. It took all night just to drain about had a tub of water. I called down immediately at about 5:30 but the maintenance man was gone and there was no one else available to look at it. I was assured it would be fixed in the morning. 3. The temperature in the room was about 37C, it was literally a sauna. I tried opening the patio door but it seemed to be wedged shut or locked from the outside. I followed the instructions next to the window about how use the door handle. Still no help. I go downstairs, an employee comes up and they comment that it was hot as Hell when they get into the room and they spend 5 minutes trying to open the door. They can't & say they will ask maintenance to look at this as well first thing in the morning. There was a cheap small fan that did nothing to alleviate the heat and humidity. I barely slept all night & woke covered in sweat. After showering in the filled bathtub there was no way to dry off in the humid room either until I stood outside. Extra presentable for work. 4. I called during the second day from the university just to double check that my room would be looked at. They said, yes tersely, don't worry. I came back that night. Wedding. All the facilities are closed, the room is hot is Hell, the shower/bath is plugged, the carpet is filthy from cleaners & the patio door will not open still. I go to the front reception, the handyman was gone again but the front desk person came up. They said " Wow, it hot and muggy in here" and they spent 5 minutes trying to force the door open. They couldn't but said they would send someone right up to try and bring some additional fans for me. It was 5:30 PM. I never saw or heard from them again. Between the heat, humidity; big wedding below/outside my patio door that imprisoned me, I must have gotten about 2 hours sleep. 5. Now for the breakfast, it is included but the portions are extremely small & basic. I asked for a diet soft drink and that isn't included and every time I ordered one while trying to eat my breakfast, they came back with a bill and wouldn't stood over me until I paid for it. They didn't even have the decency to wait until I finished my meal. The second morning the portions were so small, I asked for another separate dish which is just two scrambled eggs and some toast, in addition to the "full" English Breakfast that I ordered. Instead, they brought the Full English Breakfast with the exact same portion of scrambled eggs and two under toasted pieces of toast on a giant separate plate. I couldn't have just gone and made the toast myself on the continental breakfast table myself if that's what I wanted. The waiter after handling cash even tried to transfer the toast off the big plate with his bare hands before I stopped him. Hands down, the worst hotel experience I've had.

An excellent venue with bus stops outside for York. Staff and service superb. Room very good but some cleanliness lacking with traces of mould in bathroom and need for new mattress. Meals and service very good. Staff attentive. Would recommend a stay for visiting York.

The room was dark and dingy. My wife is mildly claustrophobic and it reduced her to tears. It smelt like a lorry load of shake 'n' vac (other smell maskers available) had been used in the room; we thought we would try to minimise the smell by opening the windows. Centre window blocked by dressing table, right window the inner secondary glazing wouldn't stay open, left window the sash cord was broken. I wonder how we would have got out in event of a fire as I thought windows were required to be means of egress. The door handle on the inside of the bathroom was hanging off. This was the bridal suite; my wife felt it would be good reason for divorce. We looked at a few alternative rooms but they were equally dark. In the end with my wife very upset we just left. We have never ever done this before and hope we never need to again. The bridal suite is actually in the photographs used to advertise the property and they must have used an industrial floodlight to make it look that bright - its absolutely misleading. The plus point for the hotel was the receptionist. She tried as many rooms as she could to find us one that wasn't dark/dingy or sweet smelling.

Staying in York Pavilion is like visiting a food friend, who knows you well, welcomes you and ensures you have everything you need for a most pleasant and comfortable stay. This is the reason I say in York Pavilion every time I visit York which is about 12 times a year.

Excellent staff, especially Mark. I was an 'awkward' diner & Mark was so helpful & pleasant, remembering my change of dietary request. He went round each table & spent time with guests. This was the 3rd Fawlty Towers dinner entertainment evening we have done & I highly recommend it. Was told there is to be a Only Fools & Horses night next year & looking forward to booking that too

Very nice hotel within walking distance of York. Room ok & clean. Breakfast very good & all staff helpful & pleasant. We stayed 3 nights and wouldn't hesitate in staying again. A good example of a Best Western hotel.

We stayed here for our first anniversary. The room was quaint as expected but clean and functional. The bed was comfortable with nice linen. The room was near the road so some traffic noise but it didn't bother us too much although we did have to have the window open and use the fan as it was so warm In the room. We had a drink in the garden area which was beautiful and in the bar and found the staff friendly. We never normally book a room with breakfast but as it was a special occasion we did this time. Unfortunately my breakfast was inedible! I ordered the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The salmon was delicious but the eggs were cold and looked like a congealed pile of vomit. I didn't send them back as didn't really have time and to be honest they had put me off eating anything else. Such a shame as the rest of our stay was lovely

After a few months, I'm still buzzing about our perfect day. The staff are fantastic and food is amazing and the rooms are wonderful. Craig and Polly are diamonds, they organised our wedding so perfectly. I recommend this hotel for functions and events. Thank you

We stayed 3 nights. Our room was spacious very clean I could not fault a thing. The hotel was lovely. There was plenty of space on the car park when we arrived. We had breakfast every morning the food was very nice freshly cooked. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful

Lovely character hotel on the main road into York from the East (A1M). Plenty of car parking and a bus stop outside that takes you into York City in 10 minutes for £2 (single fair). Breakfast choice is extensive although the breakfast room(s) are small so can get very crowded. Rooms are nice, shower works very well, and comfortable beds.

First of all, if you want impersonal, corporate, sterile surroundings then the York Pavilion is not the place!! The hotel building dates from the mid 18th Century, our room was in the more modern extension - 19th C! A quirky room at the end of a corridor which was what we asked for - a quiet room. The room was a little small and fairly dark due to the nature of the building but it just reminded us of some of the character hotels we have stayed in in France. However, it contained everything we needed, large bed, wardrobe, T.V. tea & coffee making facilities with everything restocked every day. The bathroom was fine with a powerful shower over the bath. Everywhere was clean which was good. Some previous reviews have commented that the hotel could do with some refurbishment but it is an old building and the decor/furnishings need to be sympathetic to this. The food was very good, breakfast had plenty of choice and there was an extensive menu of hot food from which to choose - this was freshly cooked to order. For breakfast and dinner you could choose to eat in the dining room or the bar/brasserie. We found the evening meals very good, our only comment would be that the daily Specials needed to be changed - there was very little difference in the choices. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and gave the York Pavilion a pleasant ambiance. The city centre was a 30 minute walk away but if you did not want to walk then there is a bus stop opposite and buses for the city centre came every 10 minutes. We did not find parking at the hotel a problem and if the car park was full then there are plenty of quiet side roads nearby. We liked being just outside the city centre, as my review title suggests, it was an oasis of calm at the York Pavilion. Unfortunately the cooler weather did not permit us to use the various outside places to sit but on a warm day I can imagine it would be lovely to sit at one of the many tables situated in the gardens/courtyards. We spent 5 night at the hotel and would certainly recommend it as a good place to stay.

Stayed last year Executive room no 4 and this year a Heritage suite room 420 for 2 nights both times, attended the Ebor both times and what a place. Flawless in my opinion. Definitely going back again. From the staff to the rooms and facilities, everything was perfect!

One persons idea of quaint and charming is another persons idea of worn and dated. The carpeting in our room was dirty to the point you felt you could not be barefoot. There were spider webs under the canopy of the bed. The bathroom floor was soft under the linoleum from water damage. We had a difficult time getting running water and the toilet could only be flushed once in an hour due to low water. The parking situation is a nightmare. The advertisement says there is on-site parking, but be ware it is a small dirt parking area and mist guests need to find parking somewhere on the street. We had a one night stay here and one night was more than enough. This property is in need if a general overhaul.

I was due to stay here for two weeks. After one week the shower head fell off and grazed me. I reported it and later that day was told it's ok we fixed the shower head. The hotel offered me nothing for injuring me. No apology nothing. My work booked me into a different hotel. My colleagues weren't so lucky and a couple of days later woke up to no water. They had to wait an hour for the water to come back on. Not great when your due at work. I'd avoid this hotel at all costs.

The package rate for this place needs to be transparent. The York pass appears to be ok but staff are very unaware of how it works, you cannot collection day 1 of a two day stay, it needs to be issued and authorised on the day it is needed. The 3 course meal - this is limited to £30 per head - nowhere is this mentioned, the staff don't know, and you will not be told unless you specifically ask. Yes, you can have a 3 course dinner, but you pay the excess if exceeding £30. The food is good but be careful.

Normally excellent hotel, not in this room. Noise from the kitchen from 5:30-6:00 every day ALL day and from Beer Garden especially in the evening. We have stayed here loads of times including Christmas breaks and it's always been excellent but this time was awful, we will not risk staying again.

We just got back from a three day stay in this hotel. The location was perfect for visiting York. We walked along the river into the city centre. Beautiful. The room was nice. We had everything we needed. Lovely view over the garden. Bathroom does need upgrading. Served its purpose, clean but not luxurious. The food at breakfast and in the restaurant is fantastic. The lady who greets you for breakfast ( Rosemary)is very welcoming . We were served in the evenings by a waiter called Pierre. What a fantastic member of staff! He couldn't work any harder, nothing is too much trouble for him, he goes above and beyond to make sure that you are happy and have everything you need. Making our stay extra special. Thank you Pierre.

Stayed here whilst at the Ebor festival York . The staff couldn't have been more helpful allowing us to park early and serving tea while we waited for a cab . Our room 45 was comfortable however a little noisy Early morning with workmen leaving . The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was second to none . Difficult to fault Thankyou for reading my review

We booked here for a two night visit to York. We have stayed at several Best Western hotels (including our daughters wedding reception) and have found the standard to be very good as was the value. We booked through the Best Western site and chose a deluxe room with queen size bed. When we entered the room and discovered a small room with a double bed we were ready to leave. After going back to reception to complain we were offered a larger room that did have a super king size bed. We took this as our booking was non refundable but the room was very tired looking. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good and the breakfast was very good also. The decor in the room was depressing.We went to have a drink in "the residents bar" which was where some of the breakfasts were served, it was not a place to linger, no comfy chairs to relax in. When the drinks came they were in the same glasses we had for tooth mugs.

We stayed here overnight for our wedding anniversary trip to York. I had booked the hotel without really knowing anything about it. It is a lovely little hotel and is ideally placed for those who do not want to stay right in the centre of the city. It is a beautiful historic building with many original features. It does not have a lift but this is clearly stated in the hotel literature. The staff were friendly and attentive and very helpful with information of the local area and places of interest. There is ample parking and the bus stop is directly outside the hotel making it easy to visit the city centre without driving or looking for parking. Furthermore, it is similarly a very short distance from York Designer Outlet if shopping is your thing. Our bed was comfortable, the room clean and, unlike some hotels, the en-suite had a bath in it. The shower has the power of a pressure washer so beware. However, this is better than some where the shower is a mere trickle. The full English breakfast is enough to keep one going all day. It was served piping hot and was delicious. Highly recommended if you are looking for accommodation in the area.

Spent three nights at this lovely hotel. Booked two rooms, one twin and one double. Rooms were on ground floor with view of beautiful courtyard garden. Room was clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast was excellent and catered well for one of us who is gluten intolerant. Hot breakfast was cooked to order and poached eggs were perfect. I would say that I prefer my bacon grilled but that is me. Waiting staff were very helpful and service was fast and efficient. We had two evening meals during our stay and there was a good choice with different chef specials each night. The strawberry delice dessert was to die for !!

From the time you arrive to when you leave you are made very welcome.Reception staff could not be more friendly and helpful,waiters and waitresses likewise. The food is first class for all meals and there's a good selection to choose from. The bedroom was cosy clean and comfortable. No negatives all positives.

This is a lovely family run hotel with a fascinating history - it is the former home of Oscar winning film soundtrack composer John Barry who wrote ' Goldfinger ' , ' Thunderball ' ,Diamonds Are Forever ', ' the James Bond Theme ' and ' You Only Live Twice ' for the 007 film series, as well as ' Born Free ', ' We Have All The Time In The World ' (Louis Armstrong) and the film themes for ' Zulu ', ' Out of Africa ' & ' The Persuaders ' . The current family who run it bought it from John Barry 25 years ago and it is an absolute delight, retaining many of the features of his time there. They serve a fabulous full English breakfast, delightful meals and it has lovely rooms. The hotel is very peaceful, despite being on the main road, and there is a huge car park in the former gardens - all you need to do is get the number 7 bus (the stop is right outside) for a 10 minute bus ride into York. The return stop is right in front of the hotel. The staff worked very hard and nothing was too much trouble. We took a small well behaved dog and they were great to him too. This hotel is a real gem and good value for the price - and if you fancy a change there is a really lovely pub just a 100 yards on the opposite side of the road. I have just read a bad review but these people must have been stopping at another hotel - it's certainly not our experience. We will definitely be coming back and thanks to the staff for making our stay so wonderful. Well done everybody and thank you!

Looking for accomodation near York and found this hotel our first Best Western. Joined the loyalty rewards program and booked. This is a popular hotel with 62 rooms, initially I was concerned about car parking spaces however we had no problems over the two nights stay. enjoyable having an apartment with a reasonable amount of space. we did hit the super hot weather period and needed to open the rear garden windows to cool down at night. This did produce some traffic noise but not too bad. Although we did not make use of it, the apartment had all the facilities to keep refrigerated food and cook for yourself. breakfast was a busy time but once again no problem in being seated. Lovely little garden outside the bar and we were fortunate that our room was not ready at 3.00pm and we were offered a free drink at the bar while we waited. Very peaceful setting especially after a long day's drive. Overall happy with the hotel and would not hesitate in booking again or recommending to friends.

We had a lovely stay here, the staff were very attentive, it's a 15 minute bus route to York centre and the room was very cosy and clean. Very nice grounds, garden area is beautifully kept. Would stay here again

This was the first time we stayed at the Best Western Pavilion Hotel- we stay in hotels and guest houses throughout the Yorkshire area and have plenty to compare with. The brochure did not let this hotel down. A stunning old mansion house very conveniently placed for York and the surrounding area with plenty of free parking on site. We were checked in straight away and shown to our room- we had asked for a quiet room so it was a bit of a trek up several flights of stairs but we were fine with this and what we expected from a house of this age and style. Lots of fabulous period features and very clean and tidy. The staff were very welcoming and extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was small but nicely furnished - the bathroom could have done with updating and our mattress had very noisy springs but it was okay. We were woken in the night with creaky floorboards from the people in the room next door but that is to be expected in such an old property. The WIFI was excellent and plenty of tea/coffee/biscuits etc availabe on a tray. We did suffer with the heat however- we stayed on the hottest July day on record and as there was only a tiny window that opened about 8 inches, even with the fan provided we could not get cool. There was no air conditioning. Breakfast was served early enough for us- we went down at 7.30am and there was a huge choice of cereals, fresh produce, juices etc - the most choice I have ever seen to be honest and the cooked breakfast was served promptly and was well cooked but the bacon was overdone. On checkout the receptionist was very patient with me when I needed to check an email before making payment. Overall we loved this hotel and we will definitely make it our go-to for York when we are in the area.

£153 for one night which included breakfast that was not to the quality of expectation as you could get a better breakfast at another hotel of a lower price as well as a small room and thin walls was woken by neighbours multiple times

We arrived very late and tired during a relocation by our booking agent following a disastrous experience elsewhere. Abbie the receptionist went out of her way to help get our booking transferred and could not have been more helpful and efficient. Restaurant staff were some of the best we have found anywhere and the breakfast was superb. The atmosphere is pleasantly calm and traditional and the garden terrace is wonderful on a summer evening. This will definitely become our go to hotel for future trips to York.

We stayed here for 3 nights 13-15th July 2019. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that it's a straight 25min walk into York & the food. Cheesy Nachos we had as a snack were amazing & equally was the Rump Steak & Desserts we had. The menus have extensive choices & everything we had was really well presented & cooked fresh, it's a shame the hotel lets itself down in all other areas. This hotel is not the Country House Hotel it claims to be, it is old, run down & extremely tired. Decor isn't Country House, it's shabby & tired, along with most of the furniture, especially Bar Furniture & Garden Furniture, definitely not High Star Hotel Standard. We arrived to a jam packed full Car Park, Which is not easy to manoeuvre in, no bay markings, so people had parked vehicles very wide apart. Didn't find any of the staff very friendly other than Jae & Katy. Our room was so dated & really small, don't think they've been decorated for years. Only good thing we did have a fan provided, as no air conditioning. We experienced 3 chaotic days, 1st being rowdy groups of race goers, 2nd being a wedding & 3rd being a coach load of foreign students, who unfortunately were in rooms above us, they sounded like herds of elephants on the old floorboards & ceiling was creaking so much for hours after we had gone to bed. Breakfast is another story, it is absolute chaos on another level, 3 separate rooms of tables, across corridors, food buffet in another. People are constantly tripping over other people, coming around corners, out of kitchen doors, it was ridiculous. Food wasn't replenished, cooked breakfast took ages & wasn't even very nice. I asked for porridge which was fine one day, then on the 3rd morning it was inedible slop. Overall this Hotel is very dated & really needs an overhaul & perhaps some extra motivated staff. Would not recommend, or be returning.

Stayed here for two nights with two other couples. The room we had was off the courtyard and was fantastic, loved everything about it. It was well worth the stay and we had our coffee first thing in the morning in the courtyard before breakfast. Had coffee/tea making facilities in the room . There was a wedding reception on our first night, but we had no noise coming from it. The hotel is just outside York and there is a bus near enough outside the hotel, takes about 10-15 minutes to get to town. Breakfast was good and you helped yourself to cereals/toast etc. Good stay would recommend this hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Internet access not good in the room, we couldn't get a signal near enough for the two days. Had to go outside, but did it matter no we were on holiday.

Nice and spacious hotel with airy rooms but in need of a really good vacuum and the bathroom needed a deep clean. Breakfast was disorganised. Kept running out of food and plates but food was very good. First night there was a function in the function suite below us with people also outside our window and was very noisy until after midnight. Second night wonderfully quiet. Comfortable beds. Staff polite and professional but not overly friendly. Bus stop outside with 10 min journey to town centre.

Booked mainly for location as I wanted to get to York by bus. The hotel was a lovely old house with 2 courtyards, all beautifully presented with tasteful decoration throughout. The way to our room was a bit of a maze but well worth it as the room far exceeded what I expected for the price we paid. Breakfast was the best I've ever had in a hotel (and I travel often). Served by smart, polite staff in lovely surroundings. I thoroughly recommend staying here.

The Pavilion is a distinctively little gem, tastefully and thoughtfully decorated, with beautiful gardens, friendly and helpful staff, and a surprisingly excellent restaurant. The hotel is very convenient for access into the city (No. 7 bus stop is right outside) is frequent and takes only about 10 minutes to get to the city centre.

This hotel is lovely from the outside and in. We had a room in the courtyard which was lovely and peaceful the hotel is very nice and offers great facilities in a good location too with the nearby bus stop and only £8.00 in a taxi to York centre would definitely stay here again.

We arrived to be greeted at reception by Samantha. Check in was swift and she showed us to our room, on the ground floor. The room was spotless, if a little old fashioned in appearance, but perfectly in fitting with the age and style of the building. If you want modern, then book a Travelodge or something similar! I also lost my mobile in York on day 2 and Amy on reception went above and beyond to help me locate it, trying to get through to the store where I'd last seen it and also contacting the taxi firm we travelled with. I cannot thank her enough! Beds were AMAZING! I'd like to know the make as I want one at home! Guests are advised to go to breakfast early to avoid busy times. We only had breakfast in the hotel as the restaurant menu was not to our taste with us both being very plain eaters. However, this is where things started to go badly wrong. On the first morning we ate in the smaller of the two rooms where breakfast was being served. No one took our room number or explained how breakfast worked. We were given tea fairly quickly but 20 minutes later, we were still waiting on our order to be taken. Eventually, about 30 minutes in, a waiter came and we ordered full breakfasts without beans. My mother asked how many sausages came with it and was told two so she asked to have just one of those instead of two. When the meals arrived, they BOTH had one sausage AND BEANS ...and neither of us had bacon! We decided not to say anything. On the second morning we went to the other breakfast room. We were met by a man in a suit who was, I think, called Dean, who asked for our room number this time. We said room 23 and he checked his list and informed us we were not on his list for breakfast. He seated us and then, within full hearing of those around us, as that room was quiet, asked if we wanted breakfast added to our bill. I told him we had booked the “breakfast on us” rate, which included breakfast,so no, I did not want it added. So he said he'd need to check with reception. Off he went, then on his return he again came to us to announce we were not booked for breakfast. At this point I said I had the email to prove we were. Now, as reception had bank card details on record for me, we could have easily been given breakfast and produced the email on check out an hour or so later, but not in this instance. I had to return to my room to get this, leaving my mother sitting getting disapproving looks from other residents who had overheard this whole debacle. She eventually was so embarrassed she followed me back to the room. When I returned, he was NOWHERE TO BE SEEN and I had to hunt for him, eventually finding him at reception, where it was made out to be a computer glitch ...computers don't make errors, those inputting information do! We sat down to breakfast in the smaller room this time. 35 minutes later we still had no tea and our orders had not been taken. We had asked if the order could be taken and were told someone would be right out but this did not happen. We were beginning to feel we were invisible! When we eventually received breakfast it was lovely, beautifully cooked. Samantha, who was again on reception dealt with it all in a pleasant way, but I found the male member of staff disagreeable, making it perfectly clear by his manner that he did not believe us. This put a definite damper on the last morning of it break. I have given the hotel 4 stars...it would have been 5 if the breakfast set up was not such a shambles.

We paid extra for a quiet premium room, but were given a room directly over the disco which kicked off both evenings. It was very noisy for both nights we stayed. Then there was the lumpy old mattress. Little sleep for two nights. Reading the reviews, it seems this has happened to other guests at this hotel. Dear hotel: Why not allocate the noisy rooms to the people staying at the hotel for the party? When things go wrong like this then you start to feel that you've had the mickey taken, and begin to notice other things that you'd normally just shrug off, like the rusty shower head, stained cushions, lack of ventilation, tired carpets, worn and faded floor covering in the bath room etc. They advertise a car park, but it's small, so parking on the street may be only option.

If you want good accommodation within minutes of York city centre, this hotel is perfect for you. The bonus was the access to onsite food, fabulous breakfast, free onsite parking was great too.without hesitation will use again.

Stopped overnight to break up a long journey. Warm welcome at reception, with a no problem attitude, room was lovely bed very comfy, ate in the restaurant fab steak and ale pie! And desert perfect. Breakfast was nice and relaxed with a no rush feel

A beautiful little gem of a hotel, in a great location, with good staff. I stayed in one of the courtyard rooms, overlooking a gorgeous garden, with seating. Our group sat outside with drinks until 10 pm, and we were conscious of people in their rooms just a few feet away, but that is the charm of the hotel. If you want complete privacy and no outside noise, go to a sealed unit chain hotel, but if you can cope with people outside having an evening drink, this Is the place. Nicely decorated rooms, fabulous shower, fresh air...and an excellent breakfast.

Highly recommended would definitely recommend it. The staff were friendly and helpful and the Hotel was clean and well presented. My bedroom was well equipped and the bed was extremely comfortable Breakfast choice was excellent.

Well placed for York city centre and designer outlet where you find the park and ride. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good food with lots of choices and bar but would like to see more local brews . Very comfortable and quiet. Plenty of outside areas for the warmer weather.

We stayed in the apartment which was ok a little tired but it had we needed. We wanted to say a big thankyou however to Amy Keane on reception who was lovely. Friendly and professional she even ran out to find John a parking space in the street when the car park was full downside? The cleaner /chambermaid who didn't even make the bed!!!

Loved nearly everything about this hotel except that our bathroom in room 43 would have benefitted from a really good scrub. The blackened grout and stains on the back of the door need only effort and Cillitt bang to remove. The room was fine but we really needed the fan that was provided as it felt stuffy and very warm without it. Breakfast was excellent and the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, some of the best we've had. Restaurant staff delightful and keen to please, delicious coffee. Location wise very good. We walked into York the first day, took about 45 minutes so we took the bus after that. £1.70 straight into the centre with a choice of buses Mon - Sat (less on a Sunday). Car park did get very full so we ended up having to park on the street for two nights but that wasn't too much of a problem. All in all, we can recommend this hotel and would willingly go back ourselves.

I chose the hotel based on comparing reviews of its restaurant, location (slightly out of the centre of York) and quality of rooms. The room was fine and garden areas were nice. The food was varied, ranging from dishes that were good to very poor (that includes a scallop starter on consecutive nights that was both!). A salted caramel tart was so hard it could not be cut through (it was refunded and removed from their subsequent menu!). I also ordered a Thai green curry that flavourless and had a texture of Campbell's condensed chicked soup. The cooked breakfast had great reviews but a poached rock hard egg, pale fat edge bacon and a colourless 'boiled or microwaved' sausage wasnt great. The toast was fine but I toasted the bread myself. Our first night was odd as we woke in the morning to a dead pigeon on the balcony (died of natural causes I hope and not the food and was kindly removed by the hotel). Our last night though was, lets say very annoying/disappointing. As we returned in late afternoon from York we were told that a 'prom' party was to be held in the room underneath ours in 2hrs time and not to worry as it should be over by midnight - a nice touch for our final night and my wife's 60th birthday! I dont blame/ begrudge the loud partying youngsters at all but I do blame the lack of respect/warning awarded to us as paying guests from the hotel before and evening after booking in. I must say the staff were decent who we met but guess commercial short-term gain is preferred sometimes over repeat business.

I booked a night here based on the fabulous reviews and was not disappointed. My husband and I booked a four poster room (Lola's Room) and it was like stepping back in time. This hotel is elegant and welcoming and full of period elegance. Our room was at the top of a beautiful winding staircase. The bed was beautiful with carvings on the posts and clawed feet. A few steps led down into a spacious bathroom with large fluffy towels and luxury toiletries. Breakfast was served in a bright airy room overlooking the garden. Continental breakfast was self serve buffet style with everything imaginable followed by cooked to order hot food. A cafetière was a nice touch. After checking out we were told we could leave our car in the car park as we walked into York, approximately 40 mins, by the river. After a day shopping we caught the bus back to the hotel and had afternoon tea in the bar. Six finger sandwiches, warm homemade scones with jam and clotted cream, fancy cake slices decorated with fresh raspberries, sliced strawberries and dusted with icing sugar was sublime, definitely the best I've ever had. Linen napkins, silverware and plenty of tea and hot water made it perfect. Very good value and reasonably priced. We then went outside to sit in one of the many little courtyards that we kept finding. The hotel is spotlessly clean and attention to detail makes this hotel stand out. The staff are friendly, professional and plentiful. I can't recommend this hotel enough and can't wait to go back, hopefully soon.

Welcomed with a smile and treated like a lord by all the friendly staff, food was very good and the service was excellent. Found the decor a bit dull and dark at times but it was very clean. Plenty of room for parking and close to the building.

Enjoyed our stay in this lovely, charming Hotel. Great location just outside York. Hospitality is great here...all staff are really helpful & friendly. Food was really good. We had afternoon tea in the sunny courtyard which was lovely. Plenty of choice at breakfast with a continental buffet & hot breakfast cooked to order. Great service. Our room was full of character, with a comfy 4 poster bed & huge bathroom. Bathroom was a little dated, but it was clean with a good shower & nice fluffy towels. A free standing bath would look great in it! We enjoyed a walk into York by the river which took about 39 mins. Lots of people were enjoying the sunshine so it was busy & a good atmosphere. We enjoyed a lovely relaxed evening in York, lots of bars to choose from & a great atmosphere.

The staff on the day and during our visit were absolutely fantastic, a special message to Craig the wedding planner and his team they made my daughters day even more special, nothing was to much, thanks

What a beautiful hotel and grounds, breakfast was amazing. Staff lovely and super helpful. Either get a taxi into York or a bus stop is across the street and the staff can tell you which one to get. Would highly recommend

Good hotel situated on the outskirts of York, easily accessed by bus from nearby bus stop £2.70 return (easier than parking in centre of York). Friendly staff and good service from check in to breakfast. Stayed in room 4 which was very large with comfy king-size bed.

Approaching the hotel, travelling towards the city centre the hotel is on the right. We found the entrance to the car park difficult to see. Better signage is needed. Once parked and in reception we were greeted professionally and courteously then shown to our room. The room was in a courtyard which featured an pleasant outdoor area. The room was a reasonable size and provided everything we needed. The bathroom was rather small but adequate with a bath and shower. This is a pleasant and comfortable hotel which features good well-cooked food. The staff are helpful and looked after our needs with care. Anyone visiting York should put this on their list for consideration.

Sadly no notification of a (lovely) wedding occurring in the hotel when booking by telephone. On arrival told our 4 poster room was directly over the disco which would be going on until midnight. Was moved to a small double room with only skylights and no windows. Recompense was the cost of 2 drinks each when we'd much rather had the type of room we'd booked. Fantastic breakfast and lovely staff. Many better hotels in York. We won't be back.

Just got back from a two night stay on business. The staff were efficient and welcoming. My room was on the first floor, up and down a convoluted corridor affair (its a bit of a rabbit warren!). My room was ok, but a little tired. However, the biggest issue was a very obnoxious smell from the bathroom. I opened the window and put the extractor on, but after 10 minutes it hadn't gone, so I reported it to reception. A young chap came to have a look and suggested I leave it for another 10 minutes. I went for dinner and came back after a couple of hours and it seemed to have dissipated. Not the best start. We are in the restaurant on both nights. The food was good and at reasonable prices. The bar was a little expensive, but there is a pub 3 doors away which is a little cheaper. A walk into the City takes about 40 minutes. If I were go stay in York again, I would probably look to stay closer to the main shopping area and nightlife.

This was my second visit to this hotel and it was to my satisfaction again, I prefer to stay here as you can park the car free of charge which is a bonus and it's only a quick bus ride or £5 taxi to city centre, the hotel itself is beautiful the rooms are clean and nicely decorated in keeping with the style of the property you can include breakfast on booking but I chose not to on this occasion as I find it quite expensive for what I eat in a morning cereal and drink but have had breakfast previously and it was nice you are served by waitress at your table a nice touch as most places are buffet style now, will definitely return when I visit York again.

Booked in on Saturday till Monday for Sunday wedding - everything to a high standard . Wedding meal , canapés etc ran very smoothly and guests commented on the quality of the meal - efficient service as the food was hot

We booked this hotel as part of a great little escapes deal We had a fantastic stay, we could not fault this hotel in anyway, all the staff are very helpful and chatty. The food was brilliant including the evening meal and breakfast which was part of the deal. It is all cooked fresh as per your order, including breakfast which was not sat around on a warming tray all morning. Very reasonable prices at the bar. Loads of on site parking. Lots of little garden areas to explore or sit out in if the sun is out. A great place to relax when visiting York, its just slightly out of the city center, but you could walk it, we chose to get local taxi £7 each way. The owner actual cares about here hotel and staff, and has owned the hotel for over 30 years. Keep up the good work it's a nice treat find a hotel like this.

Visited this place purely on the reviews which are generally very good. Sadly my visit was not so happy. Breakfast was awful on both days we spent there. I can only assume we were unlucky based on other reviews????

We spent three days here on a visit to York. The hotel was originally a Georgian mansion and some maintenance dated back to that time. Our windows were falling apart but it was part of the charm of the place. The staff were great and the location is good. Buses direct in and out of the city. It was a comfortable, warm and friendly stay, with interesting public areas. Nice restaurant with Pierre, an unnecessarily anxious Maitre D. Excellent professional. We will be back.

Stayed here for one night over the May bank holiday weekend. We know York well and wanted to spend the day in the area. Check in and out was seamless, staff were friendly, efficient and polite. They even let us leave our car in the carpark the following day after checkout. The room itself was quite small compared to other doubles we've stayed in, but had everything you needed including a nice deep bath, lovely toiletries and biscuits. It was country style and quirky. The breakfast had extensive options and on the whole was clearly well sourced, quality produce. The only slight downer was the scrambled eggs, which felt like they'd either been microwaved or made of powdered/liquid egg. Otherwise, delicious and hearty portions for breakfast. Liked this place and would stay again happily.

I organised a party to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary at the hotel and the staff were so amazing and helpful.It was a fantastic experience and one everyone will remember.Thank you to everyone who was involved you made my parents day very special.

The York Pavilion is where we chose for our May wedding and it couldn't have been more perfect! Absolutely beautiful and first-class from the initial booking - right through to the time we sadly had to say goodbye. Set in beautiful grounds, the Pavilion has several gardens and hidden outside gems. Excellent location - just off the A64 (on the A19). Ample parking for all our guests. We attended one of their wedding fayre's where we were able to learn even more after our initial booking. The Pavilion's wedding planners go above and beyond to be helpful and, on the day, work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything goes smoothly. Our whole experience was perfect. From the rooms, to the care and attention afforded ourselves and our guests, to the little details of how they arranged our ceremony and reception rooms - nothing was too much. The Bridal Suite is beautiful and spacious - and all our belongings were moved into it as our day went on. We were greeted with prosecco and chocolates in our room (after the wedding). The bar and lounge area offers great service - and a great selection of drinks and food. Breakfast is equally as fantastic with a great range and service. Despite being 'on the main road', everything was private and we never heard any noise - other than our wedding music. Rooms were beautifully presented and clean. Being on the main road, buses run regularly into York city centre - something we utilised on the Sunday. We honestly can't say enough fantastic things about this hotel and are already looking forward to going back soon. We would highly recommend this hotel for a wedding and stay! Excellent accomadation, very comfortable room, en-suite beautifully fited out and lots of accessories. Staff couldnt do enough tomake our stay memorable. Breakfast one of the best I have had, all the trimmings perfectly cooked and presented. A short bus ride to the centre, or a 30 minute stroll along the river well worth while.

Where is it? Go on, give us a clue!.....Ahh there it is, but how do you get in there? Top Secret hideout maybe. O.K I'm being silly, the Hotel itself is easy to find, located directly on a busy main road and sat nav friendly too, but as you drive past it was not easy to see the "pull off" that takes you to the tree laden car park to the side of the hotel. Get a better sign Best Western please to save us from doing the where is it drive by.. Now this is one of the few negatives that we drew from the couple of days that we stayed in this hotel. My partner and I attended with our car club friends and took it over basically. First impressions of this place is that its old, but this is definitely not a negative in this instance. Its spotlessly clean and quite smart in its decor too. Staff on reception were extremely welcoming and efficient with no delay and prompt allocation of rooms for us. It made it more difficult for them as we arrived "en masse". It has to be said that all the staff that we encountered were extremely polite and helpful. Well done! Our room was allocated at the far end of the building but not a million miles from everything. The room resembled a Premier but with a little more quality and character. Overlooking a small planted courtyard we were very pleased with our allocated space. There was a clean bathroom, the bath perhaps a little tired...and a warning to larger persons, our bath was very narrow and very deep, so care is needed when exiting! In the bar, prices were excellent. Take note other hotels it retains your customers. It made you want to stay there rather than do the usual, "lets go to the local nearby" for that cheaper pint. No rips off here. The breakfast was very nice and piping hot, we did have a delay on the second morning, but I think that this was down to the sheer numbers staying there. Parking seemed to be adequate, and if the car park was full, I'm not sure where you could leave your car to be honest. The tariff for the two nights was also reasonable and to be honest there is little else to add. It holds weddings and functions, one of which was there at the same time as us. It is within walking distance to town, with a very pretty walk alongside the river. Its nice to be able to report a good one again, no worries if you are thinking about staying here, as long as you can find the car park you will be fine, and if you did want to know, there are quite a few very nice pubs close by if you did want to venture out for a change for your evening meal arrangements. Very nice hotel just a couple of miles outside the city lovely quiet location, with great breakfast our room was spacious and was not disturbed by a wedding that went at the weekend would highly recommend this hotel.

Adequate parking and pleasant outdoor seating/smoking areas.2 restaurants, I chose to eat in the bar. Edith Piaf music different, but the food was good and the service from Jae excellent. Slept well in Room 38 the quiet room I requested and enjoyed my breakfast.

We really enjoyed our three-night stay at the Best Western Pavilion. It is an excellent hotel and very good value. The Scarborough room which we were given was just right. All the staff very helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. The hotel was ideally situated for us. We walked into York and back every day. It took about 30 minutes. If you turn right going out of the hotel and go past two sets of traffic and then turn left you will walk adjacent to the river. We will have fond memories of our 31st wedding anniversary. We packed as much as we could into those three days. We went into York Minster and climbed the 275 steps up to the tower. Went to the Railway and York Castle Museum, climbed Clifford Tower and walked the wall. Went on a bus and boat trip and found Bettys cafe which we visited twice.

I stayed overnight here and I had the comfiest bed and the best sleep - it was a four poster bed so it was huge! I had dinner and it was really really lovely and breakfast was nice too! All round great stay!

We got married here 4 years ago (and it was brilliant and ran like clock work) and we have been back a few times nice. Visited again last week for our anniversary and had a really nice stay. Room was looking slightly tired but nothing major at the moment and the facilities all worked OK. We had a patio door and opened it to let some air in as it was a warm day but then couldn't get the thing to shut. We mentioned this to reception as we went out and also asked for a hard pillow and when we came back all sorted. After a good nights sleep down for breakfast which is as good as I've had anywhere. The cooked full English was excellent, pastries and juice were all good and I even had some of the compote and yogurt because its really nice here. Will return and would recommend

On Saturday 27th April my youngest son and now Daughter-in-law had their wedding ceremony and reception at the Pavilion Hotel and what a wonderful choice. From first booking to the big day nothing was too much trouble, all the staff were very helpful and very friendly and made the day a relaxed and stress free day. A big thank you from me to all involved at the Pavilion and i would definitley recommend as a place for a celebration and to stay. Trish

After being recommended to try Langton's Bar & Brasserie, we came here for a meal with 2 foodie friends. From the moment we entered the hotel, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the overall service was excellent throughout. The food was really good, local produce, great tastes and with great wines. We will definitely be going back.

We cannot thank the hotel and staff enough for hosting our special day, from the first planning meeting right through to the big day itself they were fantastic, and i cannot recomend them enough. The food is/was exceptional, from the small family supper we had friday night, canepes and wedding meal to breakfast the morning after! We had several family and guests stay at the hotel with us and have all expressed the same opinion, all the staff are a credit to the hotel with their friendly and warm but yet proffesional approach, i would and will be highly recomending the hotel in the future and will be sure to return even if its just for a meal, absolutely fantastic!! This was our 5th stay and matched up to previous stays. The staff were helpful and supportive when my wife had some health related problems and we are thankful for this. I am always happy to recommend this hotel for the quality of accommodation and restaurant service

Had an evening meal and drinks, followed with an over night stay with no faults at all. The food on the evening was awesome and then topped up with freshly cooked to order breakfast. Staff were great, friendly and welcoming! Bedroom was huge, everything needed,clean and suited to the hotel. Well done York Pavilion

Easy to locate this Georgian Mansion, nice room, very good beds, on ground floor with access to nice enclosed courtyard with lovely trees. Good bar and plenty of outside seating near bar. Only let down was the dinner, we had booked in for all three evenings. On the first and third there were functions arranged which slowed down the service and the chefs attention to detail on the guests food was not good, steak and fish dishes overcooked. Second night, no functions on and the food was delicious. Breakfast was very good with one of the best range of choices I have experienced at any Hotel. Lessons to be learnt however when hosting Weddings etc

Stayed at the best western pavilion was the nicest hotel I've stayed in at York and the room rate was excellent. All the staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough for us ..would highly recommend this hotel anyone ..

The hotel is in a Georgian mansion south of York city centre about 25 minute walk from the main tourist centre & unlike many of the city centre hotels it has its own free residents only car park. If you don't want to walk there are great bus connections into the city from here. The location is surprisingly quiet & tranquil as it is on the Main Street A19 from the South of the country. Staff here are extremely helpful & professional, we asked if one of our matresses could be changed for one with more support & it was done promptly without any fuss. Breakfast was first class lots of choice of Continental & cooked breakfast options including Kippers, smoked salmon & poached eggs ommlettes & the traditional English breakfast. The cooked breakfast is to order & is of very good quality, unfortunately during our stay we were informed there was a gas leak in the kitchen so no hot breakfast was available, that said the homemade compotes with yoghurt & berries, nuts & seeds were delicious. Our twin room on the 2nd floor overlooked the quiet courtyard garden; it was a decent size with a very powerful 'over bath' shower. The bed linen was clean & ample towels were provided. The room had a TV (didn't use it as we were out from 0800-2300hrs each day) & hot drink making facilities. We did ask for a mattress to be replaced because it seemed worn out & gave no body support & a new one was swiftly provided. The decor was in keeping with the age & style of the building & although I dont mind the odd uneven floor board as it reflects the character of an older property, I did think the room paintwork & accessories such as chairs, dresser etc could be fresher. I thought the hotel was very professionally run despite the kitchen hiccup & would recommend it as it a super base from which to explore York, if you want more facilities such as gyms & pools then the gentle ambience of this charming hotel might not be for you.

We visited here for two nights and enjoyed our stay. We were in a standard double room which was a bit tired and quite small but it was clean and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was good apart from my poached egg which was poached to oblivion. I would return if in the York area. Reallywell placed for walking into York - about one and a half miles. Really liked that the hotel had free parking.

We had a vouch for afternoon tea and chose here. And we weren't disappointed. Arriving early and parking in the car park, we expected to have to wait. However this was not the case. We were politely shown to the residents lounge, where there was a roaring fire. And plenty of comfy sofas and chairs. Tea arrived first followed by food. The presentation was lovely and the selection good. Sandwiches included ham, beef, salmon and egg on white and brown bread. Followed by plain and fruit scones with clotted cream and jam. Finally cakes: ginger, lemon, carrot cake, Victoria sponge and 2 chocolates to finish off. Lovely! And worth the money.

This is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in whilst visiting York The hotel is beautiful with wonderful decor and the rooms are gorgeous The staff can't do enough for you and are very friendly and pleasant The food was great & the breakfasts were amazing with so much to choose from I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in York

I booked this hotel for a short break for my daughters birthday, On arrival we could see how beautiful the grounds and garden was & the hotel itself also looked wonderful! Once we got inside we received a very warm welcome & was given lots of information about the area & then we were given a key to our twin room! We were put in the Indian room which was absolutely gorgeous we were in awe of the beautiful decor and lovely welcome card & chocolates that were left for us, There was also luxury big bath towels as well as lovely toiletries and a shower cap, The tea tray was filled with Yorkshire Tea, coffee and hot chocolate along with delicious biscuits, The room had everything you could want there was a hairdryer, iron & ironing board inside the large double wardrobe, drawers and a desk with Freeview T.V, Free WiFi, sewing kit, extra pillows and blankets if required & a cooling fan, 2x Different Guide books of the area within York and Also things to do around the area. The beds were very comfortable too so we had no trouble sleeping after our busy days out exploring York and the surrounding attractions, The breakfast was delicious you could help yourself to the continental foods and cereals while your cooked breakfast was being prepared, the choice was great from the full English to salmon and scrambled eggs, of course the usual juices and tea & coffee was also there, I went exploring within the hotel as the conference rooms and ballroom was beautiful the detailing all around the hotel was amazing, and is worth a little look while you have your stay here, The residence lounge also has lots of books to read and also guide books to look at along with some stunning wedding photographs of weddings that have been held at the hotel, I highly recommend this hotel the staff were amazing they honestly couldn't do enough for you, The hotel itself is in easy reach of the city centre & by turning right outside the hotel a 5 min drive takes you to the castle museum car park which is a great starting point to see all that York has to offer If you turn left out the hotel it brings you straight to the roundabout where you can get on A64 or if you go straight across it takes you into McArthur Glenn the designer outlet with huge discounted brands So all in all I'd say this is a fantastic base to see York and the surrounding areas I can't wait to visit again

The Best Western Pavillion is steeped in history and character and ideally placed for a walk along the river into town or a quick drive to the by-pass. The hotel staff are all very friendly and knowledgable, whether it's Abbie on reception getting a taxi organised to take you to the local points of interest or Kim serving you up a hearty breakfast to start your day.

We saw this hotel and immediately thought yes that's the one. We were so right! A beautiful hotel with history in pretty grounds with a courtyard to accommodate the new rooms which have been added at the back of the property. The staff are simply amazing. We met some wonderful people. Our room The Indian Room was a haven of peace and tranquility complete with a small box of chocolates for my birthday. Fab bathroom and rain shower too. The breakfast and restaurant meals in the evening were exceptional! Well done the Head Chef! This is certainly one of my favourite hotels. So much character. Well done to the owners on such lovely attention to detail and so many personal touches. Would love to return if visiting beautiful York again.

We stayed at this hotel on the recommendation of a friend, how right was she.. We had the most enjoyable stay from the minute we arrived. We arrived early and asked the lady on the reception if we could leave the car at the hotel whilst we went in York, it was no bother at all, we were given info on the buses which leave from just outside the hotel. The receptionist so very helpfull, friendly and welcoming. We decided to eat there in the evening and what a good choice we made, the food was very good, the bar and restaurant staff were also very friendly and chatty, the breakfast was very good also, a large choice of everything you could think off. We wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for a lovely stay, the staff are a credit to the hotel... We will definitely be back...

Pretty rooms in excellent hotel. Service generally excellent although it took far too long and 4 requests to get a pot of tea at breakfast. The food was good and all other staff efficient, friendly and helpful.

We have just returned from a wonderful few days in York, staying at the Best Western Pavilion Hotel. What a gem of a hotel; we are so glad that we found you. Good food, high quality rooms and a warm welcoming atmosphere throughout. Thank you, we will be back!

We arrived expecting a lovely stay.no disabled parking. It was late winter/early spring.Because the weather was damp we attempted to put the heating on-radiator didn't work. We informed the staff that it just needed bleeding but she didn't know what that meant. Also the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. We didn't try to make her understand that though. Worst of all was when I read the hotel brochure. It advertises that it has a connection with the Beatles! OH NO, the group of satanists. Not what you want to read when you are a Christian! Hotel should be aware that they are doing themselves no favours by associating this hotel with a devil worshipping group (the Beatles) and repelling Christians. It looks very pretty but we will not be staying there ever again after reading the brochure.

Spotless hotel, staff very accommodating and knowledgeable. Breakfast and meal in the restaurant both amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in York. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We stayed in the apartments which met our needs entirely.

Having stayed many times at the York Pavilion I remain impressed with both the staff and the hotel surroundings. A comfortable environment and welcoming reception staff always willing to help out with your needs. The breakfast caters for all needs both continental and hot selections provided cooked to order. Highly recommended.

Four Poster Bed Comfortable room # 44, Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Pierre and his team are excellent in the Restaurant. James and the rest of the team on reception very helpful and friendly. Food was great, for dinner and breakfast. Housekeeping very chatty and friendly. Over all great team effort.

I'd definitely return. It was a last minute booking as the hotel we'd originally booked into was a dive. The room at the best western was lovely, staff were accommodating and the building itself is beautiful. Breakfast was tasty and the a la cartel menu for dinner looks great too.

Picked off internet as it was convenient for a couple of visits in the area. Turned out to be an unexpected treat. Dined both nights at the hotel, one Valentine's Day, and the meals were exceptional. The lobster, chorizo, nut and sauce to die for starter was the best taste sensation i have had for many a year. This chef outshines a few Micheline star meals I have had in the past. The rooms were good and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Planning to go back to go round York and this will be where we will stay.

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Felt at home. I've been to a Best Western before and chose one again because I know I will experience great service. I always like the locations and the buildings that the hotels are in.

Have just stayed at this hotel for the third time and I'm just as impressed as the first time. Staff from check in to checking out polite, professional and very friendly. Lovely clean rooms, breakfast very well catered for. Ideally based for the city we always walk by the river takes about thirty minutes but is on a very good bus route. I suppose the main question is would we stay again yes definitely. In fact we will, health and God willing be back next year to recharge our batteries.

Its a classic old worldly hotel with old style look, but very clean. Its not you usual modern Hilton, it oozes charm and character. Only 2.1 miles from York centre or about 6 minutes and about £7 in a taxi. A quarter of the price of hotels in the centre.

This was a family meet up for a speacial birthday and what a find , will certainly come again . Such a lovely hotel , staff are friendly and courteous and make you feel relaxed . Lovely residents lounge with open fire , comfortable and clean rooms , and lovely outdoor areas to sit in even in February. Sudden request for 7 people to dine at 9pm on the Friday evening , beautiful table in a sumptuous dining room , three menus to chose from .. the beef Wellington was amazing as was the lobster Everyone else loved their meals too The maitre di is a delight and a credit to the hotel It may seem far from town but park and ride reasonable and stops outside the hotel travelling in and out of York Noise was fine , all windows open in each room , Would I come again .yes in a heartbeat .. only place I will stay again if I visit York

This hotel ticks all the boxes on my list. Lovely homely, character filled elegant decoration. Big comfortable rooms each with a unique theme. Warm friendly staff, a wonderfully comfortable sitting room, cosy bar and beautiful garden seating. That is even before you consider the superb food and great location. Near enough for walking to town and far enough to enjoy the quiet surroundings.

Shame about this hotel as if it was sound proof it would have potential as it is decor is lovely and in a lovely area with very friendly locals. Staff were lovely too with us no issues. Issues were stairs broken on corridor were dangerous plus a leaking hot water tap and then couldn't sleep as rooms are not soundproof so unfortunately not somewhere I would return as I really need my sleep. I even heard the man up above wee in the middle of the night. It sounded like it was coming through the ceiling so serious noise issues. Think this hotel needs soundproofing and urgent repairs in areas. On plus note highly recommend the plough opposite this hotel food was amazing n staff were fabulous with friendly locals.

This was a long weekend to meet up with family in York to celebrate our Golden Wedding. Our daughter had been in touch with the hotel, the room was really comfortable and overlooked the garden and we had a personal card from management and some delightful chocs. A very memorable trip. The location ideal.

Would just like to say how lovely my stay was at the best western pavilion, the house keeping manager Claire was absolutely lovely, very well presented and was so positive in her work ethics, you could tell she enjoyed her job which was so lovely to see. We will be booking again as the room was absolutely fantastic, the room was bigger then expect and very clean. Look forward to seeing you all again.

Stayed for just one night 31st January. Room was very clean, very comfortable bed, good amenities in room, and fantastic breakfast in the morning in front of an open fire. Room overlooked the small outdoor area behind the bar. Only downside is not very soundproofed. I understand the hotel is an old building but could hear people's conversations in other rooms. Not a deal breaker and would definitely stay there again.

We visited the Pavilion as we often do for lunch. We ordered the pheasant pie and it was amazing. The best pie I have ever tasted. Love the place and the staff are also amazing. I would definitely recommend the Pavilion to anyone. We have been calling for 30 years and it's up there with my favourite places.

The hotel is slightly dated and needs an update. I moved from one room to another room, that was equally noisy. Service was Ok but could be improved. I think the hotel is overpriced for what they offer. The decor in my room was very strange!

I stayed with my two children for one night. The hotel is lovely but is definitely not child friendly and the staff have quite a stand offi sh manner. I have a child with autism who was quite obviously experiencing difficulties at one point during the stay he was wearing his ear defenders and crying , he was told to be quiet as people were in the restaurant and didn't want to hear him! The member of staff was exceptionally rude wagging her finger in his face, and obviously oblivious to the situation. When I explained the situation she gave no apology she didn't seem to care. Perhaps some disability awareness training would be useful for the staff!

we stop here for 3 night it was great the room 62 was in a court yard it was very clean and comfy. we had breakfast every morning that was fab the staff were very kind and helpful it was my birthday i was left some chocolates and a card which was a lovely surprise. York its self is a great place to visit the walk in to town is about 30mins but there is a bus you can get from out side and you can get a taxi if you want. this does not put me off stopping here again.

My wife booked this hotel and a Queen Canopy room as we were attending a wedding that was being held in the same hotel. When we arrived we were given room 42 Aunt Marjorie room which has very little space due to the 4 poster bed which dominated the room. The room was very warm and initially had a very musty smell which we were able to rectify with air and candles. Shower excellent as was breakfast on both days. Warm cooked breakfast and a great choice of other items. One downside to the wedding day which was a lovely and intimate experience was being asked by the manager to turn the volume down at 9.30 at night!!! There were 12 of us in the room and we were playing CD,S but not loudly.

We stayed two nights in this lovely hotel with friendly staff, the room was fine ( apart from a creaky floor board ) with big comfortable bed. Tea and coffee provided in room. Parking was not a problem at hotel car park. Bus stop more or less outside hotel to McArthur Glen Designer Outlet and not too far. Local pubs near by too very nice.

Booked an overnight stay as part of a birthday treat for our teenage son. The problem with teens is they need a little more privacy so the Studio Apartment was perfect for our needs. He got the sofa bed downstairs while we got the double bed upstairs. However, it is quite a narrow spiral staircase and probably awkward if you've a large suitcase (luckily we only had a holdall). On arrival check in was quick, flawless and a polite manner. Lady (Lorna?) came out from behind desk to outside of building to direct us to the Studio (over the road). Breakfast next morning was excellent and, although arriving at a busy time, didn't have to wait very long for a table. Food cooked to order and staff polite and professional. Tables were cleared promptly. Decent size car park and bus stop outside to take you into the City (about 10 minute journey). Fun fact; childhood home of composer John Barry. He's best known for the James Bond films.

My partner & I chose the York Pavilion for a 2 night stay between Christmas & new year & we were not disappointed! We arrived around 5:30 pm on 27th December after a long day of travelling, the hotel looked incredibly warm & welcoming on a cold winters night, we found a space in the car park with ease & were greeted with the very friendly & helpful staff on reception, upon entering the room we noticed that the bathroom light was constantly flickering, my partner popped down to reception & with ease & minimal fuss we were moved into an adjacent room, which was delightful, spacious & clean, with everything we needed to hand & a very comfy bed, which made for a great nights sleep.We enjoyed breakfast in the bar room to the sound of Jazz & a view of the very pretty courtyard, plenty of choice in regards to the cold breakfast selection, hot breakfast was cooked to order, served promptly & very tasty, the hotel is a short Uber ride from York city centre (approx 6 minute journey & cost £6) after a long day of sightseeing we were glad to return to such a delightful hotel, drinks were enjoyed before a roaring log fire before retiring in comfort, all in all a great hotel, fabulous location & fantastic value for money, we hope to return very soon!

My fiancée has recently been in touch regarding the matter of the £1000 deposit we paid last April for a wedding reception in Feb this year. As you know we have decided not to proceed with the reception due to exceptional personal family circumstances that you are aware of. We cancelled our booking in September and were told we couldn't have a refund as it was a non refundable deposit, but could have a credit note. Although we weren't happy with this at the time we reluctantly accepted. This week, a week before a meal we'd booked for grieving family we had arranged we were told the money couldn't be used against this or room stay at the hotel, only against another wedding. At no point this year are we planning a wedding reception due to the impending murder trial of our best man, my fiancé's brother, As good customer service and a gesture of good will I feel a refund, or at the very least honouring our booking, would have been the right and decent thing to do. As you have refused both of these you left us no choice than to seek advice on this unfair matter. I I will happily forward to you our findings if direct contact details are given to us as requested. In brief, As no costs were incurred by the hotel and reasonable notice time was given to the hotel to allow for rebookings we have been advised a full refund is accatatable as the contract deposit for that large amount isn't legally binding. We will therefore be requiring a full refund of our deposit of £1000 unless of course you can provide us with a full breakdown of the £1000 costs you feel your hotel has incurred and lost due to our cancellation, 6 months ago. This review is addressed to the Proprietors, who seem reluctant to speak directly to us, only through their staff !! I thought posting here might get a quicker response. We look forward to hearing from the owners and receiving our money back. Kathryn Ajaib

Returning again to York Pavilion (as handy for the University) we enjoyed a relaxing one night stay. Received a pleasant welcome at reception and at the bar - staff showing interest in our plans for the next day. Room was very comfortable; nice breakfast

We stayed for 2 nights in an apartment in the Coach House which is a house across the road from this beautiful hotel. For an exceptional rate we had a bedroom, kitchenette, sitting room and bathroom. It was delightful. Easy bus ride into York. We were so busy sightseeing we unfortunately did not eat or drink in the hotel which looks fantastic. The staff we met were extremely polite, friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this privately owned hotel. Thank you.

reasonably upmarket property, well appointed, no problems for us.Felt secure and relaxed. Upgrades were not too expensive and the staff made us feel important. Good range of wines and the staff were able to adjust our meals to our requirements

We had previously stayed here 4 times and enjoyed our stays as well as appreciated the meals and friendly behaviour of the staff. However as a result of two genuine accidents due to disablement, poor health and a consequence of an incompletely healed injury my wife was suffering from, we are being charged several hundred pounds in damages. if our conduct had been wilful and disrespectful then I could understand it., I would however like to express my appreciation of the assistance given when moving my disabled wife around and the sympathy given to me for having to shoulder a heavy load.. As it is we will never stay there again.

Lovely place to stay as just on the outskirts of the main city so not as busy and noisy. However, it was close enough to be near the centre of York so we could get out and about with ease. Definitely worth a visit and we will be going again.

This is my second visit to the hotel. The first time was in the spring, and I came with an elderly relative. We stayed in a courtyard room, which had access to a lovely outdoor area. We had such a wonderful time, and I knew I would return so didn't hesitate to book for my recent trip with my oldest friend from abroad. We requested a courtyard room, which we got. It's cosy, clean and everything we need. The hotel is impressive, it's clean, well kept, with a wonderful ambience. It feels good to return here after a busy day. We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast. We were so impressed with the festive feel of the hotel, and we were so happy to be here. I have been thinking of returning to York with my partner and our children, and to bring my friend back, as there is so much of York we haven't seen. Only once, during our recent stay, did I question whether or not I would return, based an incident which was petty, but saddened me. After a busy day of sightseeing, we decided on a night in, with a cheeky Chinese takeaway. The friendly and helpful receptionist agreed to receive our takeaway and rang us when it arrived. I asked an employee, Kamil, if we may borrow a fork to eat our meal, and that we would return it promptly. Without looking at me, he said no, and that it was not hotel policy. I was quite taken aback. We asked at the bar, for a fork, and the bar lady agreed and told us she would provide us with a fork each. Kamil obviously had seen us talking to her and promptly told her to inform us that this was not possible. Honestly, I felt so sad. Not because we had to eat a takeaway with a teaspoon from our room, but that this small request seemed such an issue. We are honest patrons, polite and respectful, and it made us feel like an unwanted guest. I have nothing but praise for this beautiful hotel, despite the terrible wifi, which we could overlook. But the unnecessarily unkind way in which we were treated has put a dampener on our stay.

As we have family in area have used this hotel regular, staying and meals in restaurant, never been disappointed. This stay from 23rd to 27th December included other family members and the second Christmas period we have stayed. What works for us is the homely feel, excellent friendly staff and beautiful old building with reception rooms kept as they were when it was a country home, love the log fires in winter. Breakfast excellent as is restaurant meals and snacks served in bar area. Looking forward to our next stay.

I booked this room as a treat for our anniversary. After looking at photos on the website I was confident that we would be satisfied with the room. My husband and I always choose a more luxurious room for our anniversary getaway and enjoy ordering room service and drinks, and relaxing in the room in the evening. When I booked the room I was informed by Matthew that there would be Christmas celebrations at the hotel which we expected as we obviously have the same every year on our anniversary! We weren't concerned about the noise and were assured the music would stop promptly at midnight (which it did). We arrived two hours early, however our room was ready and we were able to check in immediately which was very useful as we intended to visit York's Christmas Markets through the day. Unfortunately when we arrived at our room we realised we could not spend the evening there; the room was very small, with the four poster taking up half of the space. I soon realised that the room I had been given did not appear on any of the photos presented when booking the Queen Four Poster room - had I have seen a photo of the room I could have been given I would not have taken the risk. The carpet seemed to have been laid in threadbare strips and there was not enough room for both my husband and I to comfortably move around. We persistently hit ourselves on the bed trying to get around it! The bathroom - which did appear in the room photos - was particularly grubby (which was not evident from the photos). The toilet had permanent stains in the bowl which had obviously built up over the years, and the bath was in a similar state. At this point, the reasonable thing to do would be to bring this up with the manager, however we had been notified upon checking in that the Christmas celebrations Matthew had previously notified us of, was actually a wedding. For that reason my husband and I decided not to cause a fuss on someone's wedding day, and made other arrangements for the evening. We would have been unable to eat in the room anyhow as room service was not available on the evening we stayed. We had a lovely evening at The Plough Inn over the road from the hotel, and came back just in time for bed. Next morning we were given breakfast. There is a cold buffet with hot food being made on request. It is worth mentioning that if you would like more than one sausage/rasher of bacon you should mention it. I assumed we would get two sausages and bacon so didn't say anything - but the breakfast was lovely all the same, which plenty of selection. The high point of this hotel is the staff; they are definitely one of the nicest hotel teams I have come across and are very welcoming. It's such a shame we didn't enjoy our stay - the rooms on the photographs look amazing so I'm assuming due to the wedding, and our late booking, we simply drew the short straw, although I do feel it's unfair for us to have paid the same room rate. For £215 per night I expect a lot more - comparatively we recently stayed in another hotel and paid £330 for two nights in a spacious four poster room which included a free standing bath, a cocktail making kit and breakfast. My recommendation would be to book as usual; the hotel is fantastically located, staff are wonderful and the other rooms look lovely - but just ensure you ask that you are not placed in room 44 'Madame Bollinger'. From the hotel's point of view I would consider making this a standard double room - the decor and state of the room is more fitting for a budget booking.

Room was adequately appointed, although compact sized. Nice view of the courtyard. Hotel was decorated for Christmas which made it really cosy and welcoming. Downside was breakfast. No problems with the actual food, which was tasty and fresh. Issue was the length of time it took for my cooked breakfast to arrive. I waited approximately 20 minutes, which is downright ridiculous. It's one thing cooking food to order, but everyone knows that hotels prepare basics like sausages in advance. I had to ask twice where it was. It was gone 9am and not even busy. No apology for the delay either. My colleague mentioned to the waitress that her tea wasn't strong enough and was grumpily told that tea for one meant only one tea bag allowed! She did get a fresh pot made, but the waitress looked really put out. However, I would stay here again. Hopefully there would be an improvement in breakfast service though.

Car park full on arrival, very busy at all times and not enough spaces. Also in poor condition with potholes and loose gravel.No lift to room. Room 2 tired and dated, overlooked the chimneys on the roof and smelled of chimney smoke.Breakfast buffet was good but cooked food shambolic gave our order to someone else, then brought the order out wrong again. Eggs hard boiled on both mornings. Only two staff to clear up, set tables and take orders. Bar area where we ate, was a thoroughfare to other rooms and more like a corridor.

Four us booked a weekend away to relax and enjoy the Christmas market in York. On arrival we were booked in straight away even though we were slightly early . Friendly staff and very helpful. Room warm and clean. The breakfast was included in the price which we all enjoyed. Each day we took the bus into York just outside the hotel.

Spent a weekend at the York Pavilion Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The hotel is run very professionally with friendly and efficient staff. The restaurant serves excellent food at a competitive price and the bar serves a wide choice of beers, including craft beers. Breakfast is a great choice of cold buffet, cooked to order breakfast or a combination of both. We'll definitely be back:

Lovely hotel, great staff. Breakfast very good. The unfortunate thing about this hotel is the atmosphere. Namely that of an Hotel under pressure, especially the kitchen. My wife and I dined in the restaurant for the first two nights of our stay and I have to say the length of wait for food was not acceptable. I can only assume it was due to the Xmas parties that had been booked in. We decided to eat elsewhere to relieve the pressure.The food was OK but well overpriced for what it was, and if the turkey dinner is the same as what will be on offer on Xmas day. Look out Hotel, have a big complaints book handy. I could say more, but all said and done I would go back, but maybe eat dinner at the Plough across the road to avoid harassing the kitchen.

We arrive a bit early. But within 10 mins everything was ready. The room 53 was excellent. Very cosy. And clean. The restaurant was very nice! Hats off to the manager Pierre . Lovely bloke. Will stay again

Booked two nights and had a nice time. Room 48 was fine and we had a king sized bed which was extremely comfortable. Very quiet and we had a good breakfast, served by pleasant staff. Choice of where to have your breakfast, either in the brasserie area with jazz music playing or the other dining room, both very nice. We left the car at the hotel and caught the number 7 bus into the city which is great and drops you off at the main tourist areas. Coming back was rather busy and we had to wait a bit longer for the bus but it was peak home time.

Would we stay here again no defiantly not better places nearby for less money.

I got an email and text the day before I was due to arrive for a two night stay. It warned that there was a wedding on the Saturday, so there would be associated noise from guests until midnight. This is the first 'playing fair' point I wish to make. The hotel would have taken a wedding booking at least a year before the date, or maybe even longer - so they could have warned guests earlier in their booking timeline. and given them the option of looking elsewhere. Wedding guests had reserved many of the standard rooms, so only the more expensive (four poster) accommodation was left. To correct this issue is by no means an insurmountable problem. It just needs the owner to treat all her guests with equal courtesy and fairness. My stay was not cheap, probably more expensive than some of the wedding guests! It's not the cost that bothers me. It's the unfair game playing, as you will see. I had invited a university colleague to dine with me on Friday evening. Credit where it is due, the food and wine in the restaurant was excellent, as was the service; an absolute treat. However on the Saturday afternoon/evening, there was no food at all for several of us because 'the kitchen was unable to cope with both the wedding and non-wedding clients together. We were told, 'there are only five on duty in the kitchen'. A limited number of residents were accepted at tables which had been moved to another room to form a dining area (as the wedding guests had the regular dining room for their event). Fair enough. But places were limited and I missed out. About seven groups of people gathered in the Brasserie Bar - the food there is normally scrumptious too, and we were all under the impression that we could order from that menu, as usual. The menus were on the tables. Pierre took one order for an elderly couple - a seven o'clock booking - but then the rest of us were told that no further bookings for food could be taken. I felt sorry for the delightful Samantha who had it all to field, as Pierre dashed off to see to other matters. We were offered bags of crisps at £1 per bag, and it was even suggested that we could order food in via Deliveroo if we had a mobile phone, or else go to the Fish and Chip shop down the road! I was embarrassed on behalf of my guest; no repeat of the excellent fare and wine of the night before. I was told I should have booked before I left home to guarantee a table - why is it always the customer's fault? Not everyone knows their itinerary and sometimes it has to be changed at short notice. On the positive side the staff were apologetic, though clearly embarrassed. My room was well appointed and clean. There was a lovely atmosphere most of the time. My dinner guest certainly had an excellent dining expereince on the Friday evening before returning home. I did make my concerns know at reception and must thank the lady on duty for listening so attentively. She had no answers except to say that she would follow my request to pass all of this on to the owner. I asked that the owner write to me, but I've heard nothing. Not even an apologetic phone call. Please Irene, play fair. I must learn a hard lesson here, because when coming to write this review, I see that some of these or similar matters have been raised before. It's no good the owner saying 'I wish you had brought it to our attention at the time, if, when customer's do, the staff have no answers. Please play fair with us. The noise didn't intrude too much at all and it was lovely to see everyone having so much fun, but many of us who were not wedding guests were left to find our own solutions. I wonder how all of this will be twisted so that the blame can be pointed at the customer? Maybe the owner will do the noble and honest thing; take it on the chin, and propose a solution that will ensure all residents' needs are catered for equally. The hotel is in an ideal situation for the university and designer outlet if you're into that kind of thing. But there are lots of other establishments nearby, so it will be a hard choice in the months ahead. How sad.

Three of us stayed here for 3 nights recently. Having read some negative reviews about wedding party noise at weekends I rang to request 2 quiet rooms if possible. We had 3 nights of undisturbed sleep despite there being 2 private functions on the Saturday. Rooms were very comfortable, clean with all the amenities we needed. We loved the breakfasts and the small bar for a late-night drink after a hectic day in York. Very easy to get into town with a bus stop right outside and a taxi fare of about £7. Staff were, without exception, helpful, friendly, polite and nothing was too much trouble. A special mention for the receptionist, Lorna, who is the perfect welcoming face for the hotel - we felt really welcome from arrival to departure. We will certainly stay here again on our next visit to York.

We recently stayed at the Pavilion Hotel in Fulford for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding there. The staff were friendly and attentive. The breakfast was good, it is made to order with a varied menu available. The food served at the wedding reception was excellent. The building has character and I loved the room we stayed in. We treated ourselves to one with a four poster and it was well worth it. There is a good sized car park and it's a short bus journey into York. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it as a wedding venue.

Thank you to all the staff at the York Pavilion Hotel. Everything was perfect from start to finish. When we arrived we were shown to our room and the gentleman was so courteous. We wanted to watch the tv initially and the battery was not working. I rang and within minutes someone came to assist us and sorted the problems out immediately. Very nice man, very polite. The room was beautiful, very clean and stylish. The bed was so comfortable. Bathroom again beautifully clean. I certainly would book again as this was a great experience from start to finish.

Once again we return to York & we both agreed that we had to stay at the Pavilion in Fulford. We've stayed here several times before & what a experience each time. The hotel, the staff & the management are fantastic- the rooms are superb, the whole surroundings are brilliant. We have just booked again for a visit in December & looking forward to seeing everyone again. So if you want to experience perfect luxury, this is the place for you. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making our wedding day absolutely perfect. I must leave this special mention for Lorna. Lorna was my only real port of call on the evening before the wedding and despite it not really being her job and being ridiculously busy, she bent over backwards to get everything organised and keep me calm for the next day. I could of cried when after all her reassurances, everything did indeed go perfectly. The ceremony, meal and party were amazing and everyone complemented me on the food and rooms. I had a lot of family staying overnight and they all couldn't praise the place enough. We will absolutely be returning for our Anniversary. Thank you to Craig also for all his hard work on the day to make it go smoothly. You are wonderful at what you do.

Booked this by mistake thinking I'd booked the other best western in York and this is a taxi ride (£8) out. However this is a lovely hotel spotlessly clean, lovely rom, comfy big bed, lovely big bathroom and toiletries. Staff were lovely and a very generous breakfast. Disagree with the lady about veg options, there was dairy free spread and soya milk at breakfast and gluten free bread available it was really good, however we didn't eat dinner so can't comment and dinner menu was quite pricey. Afternoon tea looked very nice. Would recommend

We did have a lovely stay just a few things wrong there was not much vegetarian food at dinner time, and I was told that they may be able to do something for me. I left my bracelet at the hotel and when I called them to see if they could send it to I was told I would be charged £10.00 to send it back to me

This was the childhood home of John Barry (the James Bond composer), and is a large house with a built on annexe which contains most of the rooms. Slightly old-fashioned feel about the place, but nothing wrong with that. Very nice grounds and a nice views from most of the rooms. Ours was clean, comfortable and well equipped, and very quiet which was a blessing as both nights we were there, there were noisy wedding parties. Had an evening meal which I was a bit disappointing, more microwaved than freshly cooked I would guess, but the breakfasts were very good and served in a very nice breakfast room. If you don't mind a bit of a walk this is a great hotel for visiting York. It's just over a mile from the city centre, so cheaper than central hotels and there's plenty of free parking. Would definitely stay again.

This is an historic building which is ran quietly without much fuss. The rooms are very comfortable and have everything that is required. I stayed 3 nights and was looked after very well. The breakfast has a good choice and is served very professionally. The dinner menu is fabulous. Some of the best cuisine I have had in an hotel. Presentation and service is superb. Full marks.

Great rooms, fabulous breakfast and VERY helpful staff! Short walk along the river to York city. We stayed 2 nights and Fulford is a buzzing little village with a couple of nice pubs to eat in and a chippy! Close to designer village too and York moors.

Unquestionably there is a lot to like about this hotel, the main building has considerable charm the adjacent grounds while compact are delightful. We were allocated room 53, it was very small and dingy, we settled in and then, the kitchen fans/boiler or what-ever started and making considerable noise, this coincided with us finding the mattress uncomfortable, on examination is was collapsed on one side and well over due for replacement. The management soon had us settled into room 39, slightly bigger and brighter, this like many of the rooms is situated at the back along narrow corridors. Perhaps the highlight was sitting eating breakfast while other residents struggled with suitcases through the breakfast area situated in the bar and one of two routes to reception. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the breakfast was very nice. However the cramped rooms, aren't up to Best Western's usual standards and for the money this hotel doesn't provide the facilities expected

I have stayed at the pavilion a couple of times now and if you like being near a city but not in it its great. Its very close to York but more in a village setting. The hotel its self is a bit of a higgledy piggledy building, which adds to its attraction. The rooms don't blow you away but they are comfortable and clean, the bar was pleasant enough and the breakfast vey good. Plenty of car parking and piece of garden out side of the restaurant or patio outside of the bar for warmer months. The plough across the road is good for pub food.

Spent a night here with wife Glenys in September 2018. Overall it was quite a pleasant experience although marred slightly by a piece of glass ( or possibly plastic ) that Glenys had in her starter for the evening meal. The waiter was quite apologetic but spoilt it by saying that 'these things happen' We were quite subtle in making the complaint as the dining room was very quiet apart from some appaling piped music-I think it was Matt Munro.The next day we raised our complaint and it was received in a more positive manner. Also found out at breakfast that the bar served a local cask ale something the waiter never mentioned to me the night before. Suffice to say that he is not going to be nominated for waiter of the year. Apart from this incident, the wake like atmosphere in the dining room, this is not a bad hotel. It has a night atmosphere excluding the Matt Munro songs and is in an excellent location. The park and ride bus stops virtually outside and seems to run on a regular basis, taking you to the City Centre quite quickly. A very useful service as York cannot be described as car friendly. Overall quite nice but could have been better.

It's a nice hotel. Exactly what we were looking for - a combination of the charm of an old English inn and a comfortable and inhabitable place. The staff were very attentive. A personal email inquiring of yoour room preferences was a good sign, and the same attitude was exhibited throughout our stay. We had a room with a separate door to the courtyard, very nice feature. The room itself wasn't large but the ambience was fine. Wi-fi was good. We did not try their restaurant. The parking lot is conveniently located to the left of the hotel. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk to the old town.

This was a last minute booking for 2 nights. It was easy fo locate on a main road. Car park at the side. It had a large lounge on the front. Restaurant waiter service. Good choice of food, food was hot and presentation spot on. If you wished for bar food it was available at the bar. Had a meal in the restaurant and a bar meal the second night, prices were spot on for a 3* hotel. The hotel room was large and comfortable with fluffy towels. Staff were attentive and helpful if you had any queries. Provided us with a bus time table. Booking in and out efficiently completed. Easy access into the town centre.

Whilst we only stopped at the Pavilion for one night - it was a good restful evening. The room was clean and spacious (accommodating three people). The girls reported that the shower was fabulous. The breakfast was wholesome Yorkshire fayre Would certainly recommend the Pavilion to anyone looking for somewhere out of town (to York) yet within very easy reach Lorna was very helpful at reception when we arrived, as we're all of the staff at breakfast (220818) Many thanks

It was a last minute one night booking at this hotel without too much research and from the moment we arrived we were so impressed with all aspects of this hotel. The warmth at reception, the food, service and ambience was just superb! It is no wonder it is so popular with wedding parties! Fantastic! Keep it up!

After an 8 hour journey that should only have taken 4 hours, we were eager to get to our hotel !! How lovely to arrive at such a beautiful place and be welcomed by the very pleasant receptionist. Our room was lovely, very clean and equipped with everything we could possibly need. The bed was one of the comfiest we have ever slept in. We ate in the bar that evening and we were very impressed with the service and the huge selection of things to eat. Breakfast was great, with so much choice and served promptly and nice and hot. We fully enjoyed our weekend stay at this hotel and because of the wonderful friendly service that we received and the quality of all the meals we will definitely be returning to stay here again. My husband and I got married here in June this year. What can we say, our day was perfect right from beginning to end, we wouldn't have changed a thing, I didn't feel stressed at all during the whole day, everything was taken care of and it was well organised with very friendly staff (bar the one on reception, Matthew I think his name was) Full credit goes to Craig, I really don't know how to put into words how amazing he was and we will always be eternally grateful to your efforts, smiley and professional manner. You definitely knew what you were doing and it was lovely to hear all the lovely comments from our guests on how hard you worked to make everything perfect. Stayed for one night with colleagues on a business trip. The hotel is a beautiful period building but sadly a little worn and shabby without the ‘chic'. Well located for the designer outlets and for city centre which was within walking distance - probably about 20 minutes. The hotel is obviously well used and showing its age. I was in room 16 which is up on the top of the hotel and overlooking the main Fulford road. No air conditioning but the window did open. Quiet and stuffy or cooler and constant traffic noise. Room very worn with saniflo bathroom. Breakfast reasonable and staff helpful. For the price there are better hotels in York. There are good reviews so expect some of the rooms are better.

We booked for two nights as we were up to surprise my wife's friend at York races. The check in was speedy efficient and the chap that did check us in was polite. All the staff that we encountered from the lady that organised breakfast ,the bar staff the young lad that served breakfast were polite and friendly. The rooms were clean beds comfortable with tea and coffee facilities,iron,ironing board hair dryer and tv. There is Wifi which is free. Breakfast was excellent the best I've had a full English that wasn't swimming in oil which made the breakfast. I would definitely return without hesitation. 5*

16 of us stayed for one night whilst cycling the Way of the Roses.. The staff were friendly, checkin was quick, hotel fabulous.. Breakfast perfect ... we arrived very late due to accidents we occurred whilst cycling the hotel was very supportive.. Great Location. Thank you

We visited for a second time, and found it to be even better than the first visit. The staff were lovely, and the room was very clean and comfortable. We stayed in room 54, which is not too good if you're a light sleeper - I think it must be above the kitchen, as at about 6.30 I was jolted awake by machinery turning on for breakfast. It didn't wake my husband, but if you do sleep lightly it may be best to ask for a different room if you are around 53-55. I was looking forward to breakfast after staying before, and it did not disappoint. I'm on a diet and found it very easy to get tasty healthy options. The car park is small, and as last time we were unable to park there during our time, but I assume it is like that at weekends with parties and weddings so it may be better during the week. We would be very happy to stay here in the future.

Hotel itself looks beautiful and the courtyards are great, however the room we stayed in was jaded and shabby. There were cobwebs and the shower curtain smelt. The breakfast was good on one day but the other days were pretty chaotic and poorly organised. Evening Neal was taken in the pub across the road as the choice in the hotel was not inspiring and expensive. This place was shabby and we weren't impressed

My partner and I stayed over the weekend at the hotel , we enjoyed every minute and the stay was magical . The bedroom was fantastic , the staff was extremely friendly and very helpful . The morning breakfest was very good . Overall the hotel was a lovely place to stay

Our daughter and her partner recently got married and chose the Pavilion's Whirlwind Wedding package. From start to finish the staff at the Pavilion were 5 Star! Frankie our wedding coordinator was extremely helpful and totally professional. The food was first class and every member of the team pulled out all the stops to give my daughter and her husband very happy memories of a wonderful day. The accommodation is delightful and at the evening reception our guests were able to find suitable areas to sit and chat away from the main dining room where the disco was being held. Both bars were very well stocked and staffed and the DJ provided by the hotel was excellent. All in all, we had a superb day and bearing in mind the whole event took only a few months in the planning, we had a much better day than my daughter's first wedding that took 2 years to plan. Heartfelt thanks to Irene the owner of the hotel for employing such a wonderful team. Special thanks to Frankie, Polly and Pierre for making the day so special. Lovely place only 2 minutes from the main roads and the shopping village. Restaurant was great, if a little small, but i enjoyed that as you can always get some attention if needed. Parking was good and accessable. Great hotel for business stays. Wifi was really good and quick, even in my room. I will be going back if i am in the area again.

We stayed 3 nights in the hotel. I wished that they would do things with the hotel so it could be presented much more nice. There is a moldy smell in the corridors and the rooms, so to dampen the moldy smell they use a scent. I recomend people with astma to go for another hotel. You can use the hotel if you are in a weelchair but it's not so easy to come around. I've seen it with my own eyes. In the breakfast-room they use icecubs to cool down the food, that is NOT good because they can't keep it cool enough. A few of the ladies in reception are very smiling and give the hotel a good "face" to people who come and leave. The garden could need more care, then it could have been brilliant.

Located a short bus ride to downtown York, this hotel was once a home. There are many steps and narrow hallways but the rooms are clean and quiet. The breakfast is good and the garden a treasure. They hold weddings here and were every busy during our stay.

A little outside York , but a quirky interesting building . Takes about half an hour to walk into the city centre , but a pleasant walk along the river , and it's on a bus route . The rooms are comfortable , with tea and coffee provided . A lot of creaky corridors have to be negotiated to the rooms!! Breakfast was good with an impressive buffet of cereals and fruits , plus the usual breads and pastries . The hot food was cooked to order and was excellent . A pleasant outdoor area was lovely for a drink , and the bar was cosy .

This was booked for my 40th by my partner and was a very lovely surprise stay. On entry, the hotel presents an old fashioned persona and we were inquisitive about the decor and the wedding taking place there. It's a beautiful place for a wedding/reception. Sitting outside was pleasant. It was like being sat in the countryside with a beer. Yet, the room itself contained all the modern facilities needed. In contrast, the two spiders that lingered in the room really didn't inspire me. It was the first time I've seen spiders in a hotel room. However, our room backed into bushes outside and I'm sure this would have influenced their choice in 'home'. The staff were friendly and helpful, all dressed smartly whilst arranging rooms (presumably for the wedding). The only down fall would be that the car park was limited, with no real bays to park in, just a stony area to squeeze into. The city centre was about a 20 minute walk, but there were plenty of buses heading that way; although, it was a pleasant walk into the centre. There is also a local pub about 100 metres from the hotel where staff were friendly and the meal was pleasant. Couples wanting a quiet retreat: great. Families wanting to explore York: maybe not. Too small for young children, in my opinion. Would stay here again. My partner made a perfect choice.

Stayed for 2nights for a wedding a lovely hotel and lovely rooms , staff were all very helpfull.our riom was noisy on the first night due to another wedding on so didnt get much sleep great breakfast with plenty to offer.

Strange experience. We were allocated an apartment over the road, which was a lifesaver really, as the hotel seems to have decided to concentrate on parties - weddings mostly, so consequently the main building can get very noisy until late.The apartments are nice and quiet, given the very busy road and we slept well, by and large. Obviously some guests can`t close doors without slamming them and seem to walk like elephants upstairs, but that isn`t the hotel`s fault. We booked breakfast for the 3 mornings - weekends seem to be chaotic - the hotel seems to have bitten off more than it can chew, as breakfast is served over several small rooms with part self-service buffet and part table service. You run the risk of having your plate knocked out of your hand as you negotiate the small spaces and the speedy staff - it all felt a bit stressed - especially when the guy in charge of the waiting staff decided to bawl-out one poor lad in front of all the guests for practically nothing - not impressive nor professional behaviour. Monday was much better - quieter and much more chilled - different guy in charge - quite pleasant. Food is very nice and decent value so long as you pre-book it. They charge a lot more if you don`t. Car parking can be an issue - we were lucky but it was always in the back of your mind - why have double the rooms that you have spaces for in the car park? The staff were mostly (except that one guy) very pleasant and professional. The restaurant guy seems a bit too Basil Fawlty really. We didn`t eat there in the evening as the menu seemed a bit pretentious. Overall, it is a pretty-place with some nice qualities but a bit over-priced and up-itself for what it actually offers.

Once again I'd like to thank the staff of The Pavilion, as they have looked after me once again and nothing was too much trouble, with what I asked for. Thought we would book last minute stay to York for my birthday. I have stayed at Best Western hotels before and have enjoyed every stay and never had any problems. Arrived at the hotel nearly two hours early because of the limited parking at the venue. Could not park at all and went into reception to be told that there was a birthday party and a wedding on at the same time, so we had to park on the street. At the time of booking we were not told this information and quite frankly would not have booked this hotel. When we spoke to the manager Adam about this and requested a refund he was basically very arrogant and rude and raised his voice to us several times through the conversation and then refused to deal with us anymore and sent another staff member to attend to us. After over an hour later we did finally receive a full refund but not an apology from the manager himself. I recommend some customer service training!!

A lovely hotel. Room really gorgeous and huge. Could even smell the new carpet when you walked in the room. Had a fabulous meal in the evening and breakfast was excellent with brilliant choice. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Thanks to Katie in the restuarant and Kim and Sandra at breakfast as well as lovely reception staff. Can thoroughly recommend the hotel.

We stayed here for our son's wedding. Most of the wedding party had a meal in the evening which was pricey for the portions of food we received. Our first night's sleep was disturbed by the constant drone of the air conditioning unit, the reception staff sorted this out for us at about 01:30. In the morning I spoke to reception and they only had 1 room available for us to move to but this was too small because we had our grandson sharing our room, but they assured me they would have the air conditioning unit turned off later that night. They were also surprised that we had heard the noise as ‘it was usually only the people in the rooms in the 50s that had reported it in the past'. When we went back to our room at 11:30 to get ready for the wedding it had not been made up, perhaps the management should look at how they prioritise what rooms will need making up when they have wedding guests staying, The actual wedding, reception and evening function went extremely well, thanks for that. When we went to bed the drone was there again but the night reception staff turned if off as soon as I went down stairs, unfortunately it came back on at 07:30 the next morning. For an upgraded room we found it quite small, especially when we had to accommodate an extra bed. Our son was also staying and had arranged for a cot for their two year old daughter to be in the room, it was there but without a mattress or bedding, they ended up having to share their bed with her.

Each time we visit family in the York area we always stay here. As usual the service and quality of the product is excellent. The people who work there are very professional with an excellent caring approach. The restaurant delivers consistent high quality food, served efficiently and the menu gives a good choice with an excellent roast dinner option on Sunday night. This hotel is ideally placed for travelling around the area and close enough t o the City to visit places. One of the best hotels we use regularly with great value for money.

Nice from the outside, but this hotel is a bit Fawlty Towers on the inside: tired and dated rooms, with old and lumpy mattresses that need replacing. The walls are poorly insulated, so much so that you can hear other guests from adjoining rooms very clearly. Breakfast service is chaotic and understaffed. Was asked by the receptionist if I'd like a wake-up call and a newspaper in the morning. I said yes, but was then charged for the paper on check out, when it was not made clear initially that this was an extra charge. The manager very indignantly told me that I should have known it was not free, as they didn't use the word 'free' when offering it to me. I thought this was mean-spirited and disingenuous, and I suggest the manager would benefit further training in customer service.

I like this hotel in York. I've stayed there twice now, and on both occasions enjoyed its quiet atmosphere, helpful staff and good breakfast. It's not far from York centre (a short taxi ride) and within 15m walk of the University. I like its peaceful courtyard, traditional cosy lounge, and formal dining room.

We stayed over one night as we were going to the theatre in York to see Count Arthur Strong at the Barbican Staff were friendly and room was nice We had sandwich in the brasserie enjoyed that Didn't have dinner there so can't comment but breakfast was good and served quickly Would go there again only fault there were lots of cigarette ends all over the outside area which looked very unsightly

We have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel. Our room was lovely and the bathroom large and nicely furnished. We far prefer the individual style and it suited us very well. WiFi was perfect. All the staff, especially Reception who were very kind, are extremely nice and attentive. The car park has plenty of room and the garden layout is very pleasant. We will definitely stay again when visiting York. Thank you to the Receptionists for your help and understanding

Fabulous hotel. Attended a wedding. Service was lovely. Disco at night was amazing. DJ got everyone up. Staff so helpful and friendly. Room was beautiful. Excellent food at reception and breakfast. Will be paying another visit.

Stayed here for two nights attending a wedding. Room was a four poster one with a large bathroom. No view at all just a brick wall. Breakfast on the Saturday morning was extremely good but standards dropped on the Sunday morning, maybe they couldn't manage when the hotel is full. Hotel is a bit tired and could do with some talc but the staff were friendly and the hotel itself is in a great position.

we stayed at the hotel in October last year and loved it. we had an apartment opposite the main hotel. it was clean spacious. The breakfast was just amazing cannot fault the hotel at all, staff were more than helpful to us. We only stayed one night but are returning 15th June for three nights as enjoyed our stay and wanted to see more of York. Hopefully this stay will be a good as our first. I'm hoping to upgrade our room if possible on arrival as only able to book standard room this time online. will update on next review.

Nice hotel, great staff Bar menu was limited and the Brasserie was full but I was able to have the full menu sat in the bar Again not a huge choice but this may explain why the quality is high as my pork belly was outstandingly good Room was OK but cold and the plumbing was noisy - ear plugs sorted that out

Excellent period building complete with uneven stairs and floors generally. Warm and friendly staff. Didn't eat there as it was quite expensive and the Plough Inn is just across the road which was fab. Separate review submitted. Free parking with. Easy access to the city centre and the York designer outlet. Recommended

Another great visit to the best western pavilion hotel in York. As we were attending a wedding in the Yorkshire area there was only one place to stay, as always the room, staff,and service were excellent, we stayed in room 60 a garden room excellent,it was lovely to be able to sit outside the room in the courtyard, the room was clean and fresh,comfortable bed, hope to go back soon.

What a wonderful hotel, this was our third visit & our favourite. This was a special birthday treat & we were given a beautiful room - The Scarborough Suite ( which was our first holiday place 30 odd years ago when we first met ). We couldn't of asked for anything better. This hotel is beautifully decorated & is an ideal venue for weddings which we saw while we were there. Again I can't thank the staff & management enough for making our visit extra special & we'll be going back again. Thank you. Eddie & Valerie of Co, Durham.

1st room smelled of sewage, 2nd room was dirty, dusty, mouldy, cobwebs. Bed uncomfy got bad backs off it, WiFi useless, food and drinks and price to stay was overpriced, We've stayed in nicer which were cheaper, whole hotel needs a deep clean and painted.We actually felt unclean staying here. Wont go back or recommend

The building is lovely and the staff fantastic, however the room standard was not amazing. The room was very tired and the bathroom definitely needs to be refreshed! There were cobwebs on the ceiling that I spotted straight away. It's a shame as this hotel has the potential to be amazing.

this is our third visit to the hotel ..wouldnt go anywhere else...the rooms are beautiful..comfy beds..breakfasts are amazing lots of variety..the staff are so friendly and accommodating..would give this a 5 star every time

This was our second time at this hotel. Very good the first time, excellent this time. We arrived to find we had been given room 3 which we found was the bridal suite. Room was larger than the last room we had. The ensuite was excellent and very large. The hotel itself is situated in the Fulford area of York and is quiet and away from the noise and bustle of the town centre. All the main attractions are only a 5 minute bus ride away and the bus stops are just ours ide of the hotel. The food and service in the hotel is also of a high standard. If you fancy a change of scene there are 2 local pubs which both offer a good standard of drink and food.

We stayed here on an overnight visit to York . We had a ground floor twin bedded garden room (62) that was absolutely lovely. It had everything a guest could need for a comfortable overnight stay . Iron and ironing board tea/ coffee facilities hair dryer fan if required outside seating in a beautiful area with wisteria in full bloom . We ate dinner the night before that was enjoyable . We had breakfast which was very over cooked. Unable to eat the bacon black pudding hash browns or beans . But a friend enjoyed a kipper Shame really . We were able to leave car at the hotel when visiting the Rail Museum and take the bus ride into the Railway station and catch a bus back . The bus stop was just out side the hotel both ways . Perfect ! The staff were all pleasant and helpful .

Being in the Hotel business for 35 years I know how difficult it is to get it right. The York Pavilion certainly does in bucket loads.The reception at check in was warm and very efficient,with offer of help with our luggage and I didn't think I looked that old. The room was visually stunning if you are looking for the modern Ikea style furnishing this is not the place. Our room was sumptuous with rich fabrics and the biggest most comfortable bed I have slept in. Apparently all the rooms are individually styled and full of character. Dinner was superb with a well thought out menu,beautifully presented. This service followed through to breakfast were a very busy morning was cleverly controlled by Adam and Rosemary real professionals. All in all this hotel made our 20th wedding anniversary truly memorable. Thank you to all the team.

Our daughter is getting married here in August 2019 so we thought we'd see what its like.Booked only few days before and got a deal for £79 inc. cream tea and breakfast, excellent value for York. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and even though there was a wedding and a 60th party we still felt very welcome and important. Room beautiful, everything you need, good quality fixtures and fittings. Quaint courtyards with beautiful trees and plants everywhere, relaxed with our lovely cream tea in peaceful surroundings. Wedding rooms looked absolutely stunning and the bride said she had been delighted with everything.Breakfast was probably the best breakfast we've had in any hotel anywhere in the world. Wonderful stay and will definately be returning for several more stays before the wedding. Feel very confident my daughter will have a beautiful wedding there next year.

Another visit and another wonderful experience. We love the ambience of this hotel. The decor and the building are just our taste. The food in the restaurant is always varied and interesting and delicious. Wealways look forward to a return visit. The staff are really accomodeering and nothing is a bother. We visitand it always feels like our second home, so welcoming.

Lovely location and building and the main rooms downstairs are very nice it's a lovely building . The standard bedrooms are in need of a bit of an update all seemed a bit stuck in the nineties and I base that on the 3 room changes we had . Stayed for 2 nights on checking in we were allocated room 55 it was small and dark with a bathroom & it was ok could do with a touch of modernising but we had to be asked to be moved as it is next to a locked cupboard which appears to have some fan / generator noise it's very loud and annoying so we asked to be moved - they were very helpful and agreed to move us but room no longer had bath only shower which was better than the noise . This room was even smaller with small shower room slept that night the 2 nd eve washed hands and the hot tap would not switch off & there was a smell of drains in the bathroom . Reception sent someone up to try & fix it - I said I couldn't sleep with the water torture noise we returned after our evening out & were advised to move rooms as the tap couldn't be fused so our 3rd room 58 much bigger & back with a bathroom .. Much better but still in need of general update , bad areas of paintwork etc . Next morning I bathed & there was only one set of towels a phone call to reception and a second set was swiftly sent up for the other half .. The staff were very helpful and attended to issues as quickly and efficiently as they could - I just wish there hadn't been so many issues

Really nice little apartment, perfect for one or two, has everything you need, really comfortable bed, I only regret I was too busy to spend much time there! Walked into town a couple of times along the river, only took about half an hour and is a lovely walk. Only possible complaint was you can hear all the footsteps from upstairs, probably not normally much of a problem but I swear whoever was above me didn't stop walking for over an hour one night! Can't comment on the hotel itself as I only went in to check in/out

Wonderful staff, gorgeous building with fabulous bedroom. Location was perfect for us, really easy to get into York. Breakfast well worth having, loads of choice and lovely food. All in all brilliant!!

I went to the Pavilion hotel for lunch and AGM recently with a large group. We had to choose our options from the menu in advance. This made the serving easy and there did not seem to be any snags. The staff were friendly, helpful, good natured and generally efficient. The room is large but ideal for our group, who have several members with mobility issues. The day was warm and bright and there is a pleasant garden to while away some time. Thank you for another good meal. Mine was delicious.

I booked in to break up a long journey back north and having stayed in two previous places that were almost double the price this turned out to be the one that was far and away the best. I was in a room on the top so there are a number of stairs to climb and there is a lovely higgledy piggledy nature to the steps and floors which are not even. The room had a bath with shower and a study/walk in wardrobe off. Bed was very comfy with a good mattress and linen. Breakfast was excellent and the location for eating was very nicely done eith a view over gardens. There was also a very nice lounge for sitting and relaxing, reading the paper etc. It had a great character with lots of chairs in keeping with the period and each morning a selection of newspapers to read. Small touches like this make you realise it is a well managed hotel. Staff were very polite and friendly. All in all a great discovery and I stay in quite a few hotels so many more could learn a lot from this one. Parking too is free.

A lovely hotel, very cosy. Stayed in one of the four poster bed rooms (fishing theme for whatever reason). Extremely comfortable bed and very quiet part of the hotel which is what was needed. About half hour steady walk into town but close to bus stops and local pubs if needed. Welcoming staff when checking in and out.

Found hotel by chance through search engine hotels.com we stayed for 3 nights in a double room bed & breakfast. Upon arrival the friendly reception staff checked us in early. Our room at the top of the hotel was small but very homely & comfortable with a bathroom. The breakfast was one of the best we have ever had ad much or as little as you wanted again friendly and attentive staff. We had a lovely relaxing weekend.

Just had 4 days at the hotel, a good welcome from reception, room allocated was clean comfy and cosy with lovely white sheets, bed was really comfortable, room had all you could want kettle, coffee tea etc, ironing board iron, hairdryer, toiletries etc, lovely bath towels and shower really powerful, great. Every member of staff was polite and helpful, explained all about breakfast on our first morning. We had a meal in dining room which was laid out beautifully, meal was excellent. Also had sandwiches in bar which was all presented lovely. All in all a great stay, thank you everyone.

Had a tasting menu created by the chefs and wow it was delicious , fantastic mixture of flavours Artichoke velute with creme fraiche and truffle oil, chicken liver paste pumpernickel crumb elder flower jelly with Melba toast, asparagus duck egg mushrooms and truffle, gin and tonic sorbet with grapefruit and coriander, pan fried halibut with sea herbs roasted leek and caviar ,pan fried beef fillet cooked medium with mashed potatoes , roasted purple carrot and yellow carrot purée with a red wine jus , poached Yorkshire rubharb, rubharb sorbet , vanilla pannacotta and ginger Parkin ,Truffled tumworth (bit like a Brie ) cut in half layered with fresh truffle and a bit of truffle oil to finish it off toasted walnut and pickled Inoku mushrooms served with crackers and fruit loaf

Met family here for a mothers day lunch. Food and service were great. Family stopped here and reported that the room and staff were great and they'd definitely be coming back. My other half also celebrated her 50th birthday here too in October with private dinner party which was great. We'd never really considered eating here before as hotel restaurants tend to be poor but we'll definitely add the Pavillion to our sunday lunch venue list.

This is a lovely hotel with great food and delightful staff apart from the terribly rudeness and complete lack of courtesy of Adam a manager who was so rude we have decided not to visit again despite the rest of the team being truly lovely Whilst the request to pay corkage on the wine we drank in our room was not unreasonable It was the dreadful way this was requested You have now sadly lost 3 bookings at Christmas and probably lots more However if the problem was remedied we would love to come back

We had booked afternoon tea at The Best Western Hotel York Pavilion. Not far out of York. Good parking. We were greeted at the reception and offered tea in the lounge. Lovely log fire. The room was lovely a bit of shabby chic with fresh flowers. Beautiful decoration over the mantelpiece The tea was good with a selection of sandwiches, warm scones, cakes and chocolates. All the staff were friendly and professional. The Director of operations obviously loved her job and is good with people. We can highly recommend afternoon tea! The pictures in the ladies toilet were fun! Will be back! It was a cold day as can be seen from the garden fountain!

Great hotel for couples, not that close to the centre of York (some 40 minutes walk or 10 minutes by cab) but in a romantic surrounding. The rooms are on the ground floor, when you step out of the door, you find yourself in the middle of a garden with cast iron chairs and tables. It should be very beautiful in the summer. Rooms are comfortable and originally furnished, every one is decorated differently in a special design. There is free parking.

We stayed early this year all the rooms are themed and well finished warm comfortable with tea,coffee ect the breakfast was great with very friendly staff. A mile or so out of York but on a main bus route. Plenty of free parking(many in York charge) If you want to stay in a great place with history and good staff stay here

A few days after I had booked with free cancellation, I received a better offer: a deluxe room for only a few pounds more. This was certainly nicer than the standard that I have had before. Calm and spacious, with a very comfortable bed and chairs and a large bathroom. Niggles: the shower screen over the bath is fixed, which makes it difficult to turn on the taps from outside the bath without gorilla arms. The windows had secondary double glazing, but the maid left them open, so the room was very cold when when got back in the evening, and the hotel must have been paying a lot to heat the outside. The brown bread and cheese at breakfast were a bit disappointing: very processed. It is useful to have a pc available for guests, but I found it difficult to use: I am used to using a keyboard or a mouse for navigation since around 1982, but this one defeated me.

Just been for our 3rd stay at the Pavillion, we go every year for 2 nights to visit York, We have eaten in the restaurant prior years which is well priced, Breakfast has plenty of choice, The staff are polite and accommadating, The courtyard rooms are lovely but we were in the hotel this year, which is still the same standard but enjoyed the outdoor rooms more and would ask for those when booking again, Overall a lovely setting and place to stay.

I stayed here overnight last week as part of a business trip and had a pleasant stay. The hotel itself is an old building so it was quite unusual and we had rooms on the 3rd floor which were quite confusing to get to. My room was a little smaller than my colleague's but it had the important amenities. Toiletries were provided and I liked how hot chocolate and biscuits were included on the hospitality tray. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was decent. Only slight problem I had was that the room was a little warm and I couldn't get the window open. However I could get the bathroom window open and that had to do. As we had to leave the next morning at 6:45am and were going to miss breakfast, the hotel kindly made us a sandwich to take with us and booked us a taxi. Overall a good stay with good service.

Spent a night hear last week with the partner. Hotels location is good, but the bedroom was not the greatest for the price we paid did seem to think we would of been better off in a premier inn. The reasons for this are as followes the bed was not very comfy and needed updating the flush handle on toilet was broken. And the room just felt very dated. The breakfast was ok but not fantastic. I would not stop hear again

This is a very quaint hotel in a really nice historic building. Rooms well equipped and look after. Breakfast choice is very good. We used the private dining room as a large group and had to pre order. Mistakes were made with both the mains and desserts. When you are emailing across the requests then you don't expect there to be errors. Was very difficult resolving this and resulted in us speaking to a number of staff and ended up with half the party waiting ages for their correct food. The quality of the food was good but no apologies were made for the problems or recognition of the error which left a sour taste. A shame when the room itself is exceptional and food so good. Let down by basic customer service.

I stayed one night while in York on business. I stayed in a double room which was not large but big enough. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was fantastic. The food in the restaurant was excellent and perfectly cooked. Breakfast was also amazing. I will definitely look to book here again when I'm next in York

We stayed at the pavillion hotel from friday to sunday for a short city break. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definatly stay here again if we visit york again. The staff were all really friendly and helpfull through out our stay. The room we stayed in was lovely with plenty of room and everything we needed. The breakfast both days was very good with lots of choices on offer the cooked breakfast was especially nice. The hotel is well placed for walking into the city centre the walk along the river has some lovely views. There is also buses that run frequently through out the day and the bus stop is close by.

The hotel is situated about a mile and half outside the town centre. It is a pleasant 25-35 minute walk in along the river (the reception are more than happy to direct you to the path) or a slightly shorter, much duller walk along the main road past the barracks. There is plenty of parking, though it on gravel and none of it is "marked, so you may find that your fellow guests have differing ideas as to how much space their car needs/deserves and you may not have as much available as you would like or need. The staff are welcoming and friendly and, even though we arrived a few hours before the allowed "check in" time, they were more than happy for us to register and leave the car in the car park and head off into town. The hotel decor is styled so as to be reminiscent of a "1950s Country House", but with all of the guest rooms individually themed and furnished with very comfortable beds (and exceptionally warm quilts), all the standard/expected amenities and the fastest filling bath I think I have ever seen. The gardens and courtyards looked as though they would be a lovely place to share afternoon tea or post-dinner drinks in slightly warmer, drier weather than we had during our stay. The breakfast was varied and tasty (choice of Full English, Kippers, Salmon and Scrambled Eggs, Bacon or Sausage sandwich as well as the usual "cold buffet" and cereal) and served with in a manner that was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. We ate out on both nights of our stay so can't comment on the quality of the dinners, but the menu looked varied and reasonably priced for a hotel of this style in this location (£25-£30 a head for a 3 course dinner). We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay which, even though we were there over Valentines Day, we were able to book in advance for only £65.00 per night including breakfast (and this was for one of the Superior rooms) which was much better than the rates being charged by the Travelodges and Premier Inns that are slightly nearer to the town centre. We had a great time here and would not hesitate to come back if we are visiting the area again.

The hotel is in a good location near the University, with easy access to restaurants and town centre. Also has parking, although is a little snug when busy. The staff are really friendly and helpful from checking in to breakfast the following morning. Wifi is ok in the room, drops in and out which tends to generally happen in most hotels are stay in. Rooms are nice and clean, although dated. Not overly keen on the fur throw thing on the bed as I always wonder how often they get laundered. The room was on the colder side, even though the radiators are on - no air conditioning. Ok size. Bathroom is very in need of a make over/refurb. Very good water pressure, shame the bath didn't drain properly. I did let them know, so hopefully its been sorted. Bar area is ok, however the chairs and tables are more bistro than comfy lounge. It is also used in the morning for breakfast, so I assume its more for this function. There are multiple areas outside which look nice, although it is February, so did not get to experience them. The breakfast was one of the best fry ups I have had. It was non-greasy, tasty bacon, sausage, eggs all cooked perfectly. Worth staying again just to have this!! I would stay again, although not sure what its like in the summer without air con. But I guess you just need to open a window when so far ‘up North'!!

Good location. Nice hotel with comfortable beds. Serves an excellent breakfast. Car park needs sorting out- no marked parking and hectic with people parked all over the place. Used the private dining room for dinner and again, excellent setting. One thing was they messed up 5 of the mains- wrong meals served even though they were pre-ordered. Apart from that great stay.

Decided to stay an extra night in York but where we stayed for the 1st night was fully booked the Plough nearby was fully booked so we stayed here for one night the staff were very polite and helpful but the room was small with a tiny cheap tv the cooked breakfast was not good at all hash brown not cooked long enough the black pudding was dripping in fat should always be grilled in my opinion 1 small sausage the cold option was lovely very fresh and tasty especially the smoothies but overall this place is way too expensive for what you get.

The better half and I came to this lovely hotel for a night away from the normal. The room was lovely. We had some sandwiches delivered to the room and they were top nosh. This hotel isn't dead city centre but it a very short taxi ride in the centre of the city, which is ideal for us. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely fantastic, everything was nice and hot. Really a great place to stay. I can't fault it for anything. If you get a chance visit this hotel.

Fabulous weekend the staff were marvellous and the food outstanding. Highly recommended. The rooms very clean, bridal suite fabulous a lively bottle of fizz waiting for us. I am so glad we chose here ???

We stayed in the Indian room at the back of the hotel which was really nice, only problem it was a little bit noisy when staff were working outside. The breakfast was fabulous and cooked to order, plenty of other options for breakfast. Plenty of character and a friendly atmosphere as staff were really lovely.The breakfast room is very charming overlooking the garden with the fire lit it was lovely and warm.The car park is free and we got parked with no problem, check in was quick and staff very helpful, hotel is very close to York only a couple of minutes drive.

What can I say about the best western pavilion Hotel York well it was probably the best best western hotel I've ever stayed in and I've stayed in many. beautiful hotel fantastic staff amazing breakfast brilliant dinner what makes it a stand out for me is the service at breakfast and dinner impeccable made to feel very welcome by all day and evening even after complaining about our first room which we were promptly moved with no fuss definitely going back sooner rather than later thank you all at best western York Pavilion a great time had by all

After been married for our first year we took the 'anniversary package at £150 DBB champagne chocs.. as much as the room as was ok.. the meal quality in the restaurant was average to say the least. we were forced to eat later as the restaurant was blocked out for a party earlier in the evening. The fire went out during our meal, the atmosphere is terrible .. like a mortuary .. sat with coats on eating your anniversary meal.. not the picture I had in my head .. as much as th8s hotel is independently owned it's still BW by brand.. we complained on checkout, several emails over the 2 months since we returned... GM Pauline response terrible, owner Irene response terrible.. sadly we will not return which is a shame .. but when you feel totally ignored by comments made it's not the kind of hotel you would want to return too.. their loss .. York is a beautiful city .. we will stay elsewhere in future where customer satisfaction is important.. would not recommend .. there are plenty of hotels in York.. avoid this one!!!

I stayed here for my friends wedding and it was amazing! The venue was lovely, breakfast was divine and the staff were super friendly. The room was well kept, had everything we could need and the bed was so comfortable! Only negatives I had was that it was a little on the pricey side and our room was quite a walk away up some stairs (no. 37) but on the whole I would recommend and would definitely return :)

We went to the Pavilion Hotel for our works Christmas party, it was a set menu,with disco. Food was tasteless and not much of it, drinks where over priced! Will not be going next year or any other time.

Another wonderful stay at this lovely hotel. Wonderful service from booking (with Matthew), to check in and check out. Beautiful room (Bollinger, wow!) absolutely perfect. We'll definitely return when next in York.

Stayed with my husband so we could attend an event together. The grounds were pretty, the building pretty.... And that's about where it ends. Oh no sorry, the shower was good. The room was tiny, and I mean tiny. It was the smallest hotel room we've ever been in. We couldn't pass each other between the desk and the bed, had to take turns to walk to our bag. The bathroom door didn't have a lock on it, but it did a hole where it should have been...affording no privacy to either of us, given you could look straight through it easily. The breakfast was ok. But at £15 each it should have been. It wasn't that much better than a Premier Inn buffet to be entirely honest. The staff were overbearing. A young woman trying to take my plate when I'm still eating, having just stopped to continue a conversation with my husband. In addition it's worth nothing the hotel operates a traffic light system for breakfast dining and you're very conscious of them wanting to rush you. All night I was woken by people walking up and down, I appreciate that's just part of being in a old building but still not a great experience. When we entered the room, of an evening in January.....all the windows were open. Not sure what that was about. Additionally, the receptionist working when we checked in was rude, abrupt and largely unhelpful. Would I stay again? No. Would I reccomend it? Not for that price. I've paid less and stayed in far far nicer hotels.

Booked this on winter deal. Our room was very small but adequate for our visit. Rooms were clean and warm. Water was always hot for shower.Our room was 26 in the annex friends room 28 was larger with view of garden. The breakfast was buffet continental and cooked breakfast was ordered with quite a good choice. The hotel is located outside centre but is served with buses nearby. About a 20 minute walk

Stayed here with a boyfriend so we could enjoy the Christmas market, such a lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the service was excellent. Room was lovely and clean, quite a large hotel so a bit of walking required to get to the room, no lift that I know of and there were several stairwell's here and then as it's a historical building. There's a bus stop just outside of the hotel so you can get into the town centre quite easily and to the designer outlet, you can get some sort of family day pass on a certain service for a fiver or so for two people and it covers multiple trips. The breakfast was amazing, full choice of cereals, yoghurts, toast etc, with all the extras then a sit down menu offering full english and other alternatives. Fresh tea and coffee with table service, really worth adding the breakfast on, plus you get to have it in a beautiful dining room or the quirky bar area. Overall this is a really lovely hotel, somewhere for a nice treat and nice quiet and relaxing stay, definitely would stay again.

Hotel - old but clean and in good repair. Large room comfy bed and good lighting. All expected amenities plus bonus of free WiFi. Squeaky floors and thin walls but not a problem. Bit of a warren to get to room at back of hotel but only minor grumble. Loved all the little extras like the living room area for reading the dailies with a lovely log fire crackling away. Staff - all helpful and smiley. One little reservation was the first mornings breakfast where I was shepherded toward another room rather than to a table next to my colleagues. I noted that I was brought to a room with tables for 3, each with a single occupant? Yet during the time spent others went in and out ( including my colleagues) of the original dining area that I would have preferred. Food - breakfast was ample and lots of choice, but should be at £15 a shot. Full English was very hot which is good, but the coffee was a tad under, even with minimal milk added. Enjoyed the home made yoghurt option though. The evening meal was well priced (£24 for a 3 Course) and the service excellent. The dining area was lovely (open fire again) but a little dark? I think a few more lumens would've helped the ambience not hindered it. The meals here are ample and comforting rather than showy and colourful. The tomato soup starter was lovely, considering you had control of the cream. I noted that everyone in the room commented on how good the bread selection was and the cheeseboard seemed to be a solid favourite. I've been here twice and would commend it considering its position from the town centre, the parking and the pricing overall. I would come here again.

We stayed here for 2 nights in the middle of December. Although it initially seemed a bit far the staff soon showed us the quickest way to walk into York down the river. Lovely walk on good paths. For the less energetic the bus stop is across the road and No7 takes you straight into York. I think it was only £1.80, great value. The staff in the hotel were great and gave us a choice of 3 rooms on arrival. We ended up in a 4 poster room with a balcony, although it was a bit cold to sit on. Breakfast way great, freshly cooked, hot and good size too. Over a really good stay.

My work used this for my accommodation 3rd time down and possibly 2 more. Absolutely amazing hotel,food is excellent along with friendly staff who make u feel relaxed. I was working night shift but made no difference as they accommodated this with no fuss A must stay if your visiting york

We stayed here for a wedding they helped by having are room ready for us that was a big help the receptionist was excellent answered all are questions and was very polite and a credit to the hotel. Are room was very good we had a four poster with a lovely bathroom with a full size bath, Breakfast was fantastic with lots of home made items it was lovely

Beautiful hotel and well situated, only a short drive away from main town. Really friendly staff who go out of their way to help you. Rooms were a good size and very clean. Breakfast was excellent. My sisters a coeliac and there was the option of gluten free bread, so she could have a bacon sandwich. Lovely room were you eat breakfast with a roaring fire making you feel very cosy when it's grey and raining outside. Overall excellent value for money and I would definitely stay again if I'm ever in York.

One of the best " best westerns we have stayed in as rewards card holder we visit quite a few all year round ' very friendly staff room was basic twin bed clean very warm ' bit noisy in room 43 early morning as window faced laundry etc but that's being picky tbh great shower hot water at a plenty " fabulous open fires cosy warm relaxing" choice on breakfast very good indeed ' Greek fruit yogurt compot made up by b/f chef particularly good " hot English breakfast yes hot when arrived ' poached eggs were perfect thumbs up on service very quick for being busy on our 2nd morning i" no 7 bus outside of hotel every 10mins takes 8 mins into city centre so don't waste to much on taxis ' in all great stay will try restaurant next time we stay hopefully soon thanks and see you all soon ??

Having decided to spend New Year in York I initially intended to book a corporate hotel but then came across the York Pavilion website – and something about it “grabbed me”. So I booked, expecting the place to be a bit quirky – and so it turned out. However while some hotels could be described as quirky-negative, others are quirky-positive and fortunately the York Pavilion came within the latter category. First impressions were a bit concerning, though. Small dark reception area with a high counter and small opening to receptionist. The trek to our room involved negotiating various corridors, a public bar area, some downward steps, then a flight of stairs, a long corridor and finally another flight of stairs until we reached our destination. (There is no lift). But after that it all started to come good. While the decor was a bit basic our room was, nevertheless, quietly-situated and spacious with a good-sized wardrobe and drawer, and a comfy king-size bed. We also liked the bathroom, particularly the long bath which both my wife and myself being reasonably tall much appreciated. Also there was plenty of hot water on tap for bath, shower or wash-hand basin. The restaurant area is split into several small dining rooms, all of which have a different but equally pleasing ambience. As for the food – it was first-class, even if the dessert portions were a bit on the small side. Unlike many hotels, our three-night package did not restrict us to a basic table de hote menu but instead we had access to the full a la carte – which included sirloin or fillet steak (at last on the first night). Needless to say waiting service was excellent. Breakfast (the coffee apart) was also very good – a superb choice of mix and match yoghurts and cereals while the cooked-to-order hot dishes (of which there was also wide choice) were delivered promptly and efficiently, even though the hotel seemed full or near to full. There is also a traditional, comfortable lounge where guests can relax on sofas after meals. A hotel experience really has to be extremely good for me to award five stars but after this experience I could not give York Pavilion anything less.

After booking an overnight stay with booking.com we arrived to a very friendly welcome from the receptionist,informative and helpful, the room was adequate piping hot water and comfortable. It was on room only basis so can't comment on the food, but for the price we paid we were more than happy.

We stayed here for 3 nights to do some Christmas shopping in York, we asked for a quiet room with 4 poster bed, which we did get but it was a little tired, carpet a bit grubby and handle to cupboard/wardrobe came off in my hand. Breakfast for the first two mornings was fine, but on the third I fancied a change from the regular fry up and ordered a sausage sandwich, two pieces of cheap bread with a couple of sausages thrown in, sent out on a cracked diner plate. First night there we ordered a large dry white wine and a pint of shandy from the bar, the barman didn't know how to make a shandy, then charged me £11.50, I did complain but was told that he had no say in bar prices. We had a great stay in York, it is a beautiful city, just wish the hotel had been as good!!

Beautiful period hotel. We stayed in room number 9 which is located on the first floor of the original building. A king size room with a large bathroom and in a quiet spot. The hotel is a very popular wedding venue but this didn't impact on our stay. The public rooms are beautiful period rooms and the dining, breakfast and sitting room all have open fires - very cost on a winter stay. The location is convenient for York with a regular bus service across from the hotel. We took a taxi which cost around £6.50. The staff are very helpful. We would certainly stay again.

Stayed at the York Pavilion over Christmas for three nights with my partner and it was brilliant. It is a nice hotel with lots of original features and friendly staff who really go out of their way to help and make sure your stay is a lovely one. The food is excellent as we had breakfast for the three days, Christmas dinner and even a champagne reception before lunch. The room was lovely and clean with lots of nice little extras, it was also very quiet. This was our first trip to the York Pavilion but will not be our last and I will be recommending to friends and family. If I could say anything maybe a bathroom upgrade, but this is merely a suggestion not a complaint. Thankyou.

Went to the hotel for a wedding spent 2 nights room very clean bed very comfortable. All staff very friendly and helpful.would defo stay again.very good bus route to the centre of York only negative is the car park was very muddy

We had a family gathering at the Best Western York Pavillion Hotel 26th November 2016. We were looked after by the events team and dealt mainly with Craig. I took our menu choices into the hotel along with my sister and niece and gave them to Craig. Less than a week before the event I had a phone call from another member of the events team asking for the menu choices? Obviously they had not been processed correctly, I was told oh they must be on Craig's desk. The menu choices would be on the name place cards in order that there would be no mistakes on the day. When I arrived on the day the cards were clearly not done and I had a feeling that they were hurriedly getting them processed while I waited to do the seating plan. They did eventually arrive just before the guests arrived so all fine. The food generally was good, but one of the bowls of soup was cold and the guest was unable to eat it. The vegetables were put on the table and were at best sparse but worse was that they were the vegetables I would do for a regular Sunday lunch, carrots, broccoli and green beans, I would have liked something a little more adventurous given the cost of the meal. According to the guests who had beef which had a supplement, said that it was tough and much was left on the plate. The beer was disgusting? My husband took his back twice and it was still cloudy and tasted terrible. The bar staff told him that there was a problem with the pumps which is really no excuse and as there were many people at our event that would normally have a beer were unable to because of the terrible quality, not really what you expect from this hotel. I did ring the hotel after our event to let them know of our concerns regarding there disorganised events team and our concerns regarding the food and especially the beer as my husband was ill with an upset stomach that evening after only tasting the beer before he took it back. The lady I spoke to said she would pass it on to Craig but he has not contacted me for a discussion and therefore I am writing a review on here. To be fair all in all we had a lovely afternoon and my Mum had a lovely birthday but I would have liked Craig to contact me after I raised my concerns.

Where to start. On arrival everything appeared OK very nice king size room but unfortunately it was right above the Party Disco so had to change to a small double. Next problem no hot water for a shower or a wash. This was reported on 4 separate occasions & whilst the boiler was re-booted it never lasted more than a few seconds. Not pleasant taking a freezing cold shower. Next point & whilst we were notified & given an opportunity to cancel the pre booked meal for Saturday night was allocated in the Bar & not the restaurant. The only saving point here is the food & breakfast was excellent but everything else well below standard. We were given a re-fund for the drop in room class & whilst we were told we would get some re-imbursement on the bill as compensation above the difference in room rate we did not & in fact a £ 50 pound discount was actually added to the bill so would have paid more if I hadn't spotted this & only realised when we got home & re-checked the bill we didn't get any additional compensation at all. We were looking forward to my wife's Birthday treat & a long weekend in York considering the reports we saw on this hotel but this was spoilt by the room & shower issues. Will definitely not recommend or use this Hotel in the future & quite disappointed with BW having stayed in many of your hotels without any previous issues. To give a positive the serving & Bar staff were excellent.

Receptionist treated us like second class citizens as we did not upgrade to meals, we were room only, others who did upgrade were spoken to nicely and shown where their rooms were. We had directions snapped us ! Paid 200 for two nights, room only. Boiler made massive racket which woke us up and steam pipe outside window hissing. Room clean but very basic , and tatty . Paint scratched and taps stiff to turn. Was hoping for bit of luxury for the price and hopeful when saw downstairs which is really nice. This was two night trip to spend time with son and his girlfriend before xmas. Had better facilities and treatment in travelodges at half the price

On a six week trip this was our worst stay. Lots of things wrong. Biggest was the fact that the heat in the room was not working. It took 3 phone calls before anyone responded - a manager came to the room, could not figure out why the heat was not on and left. No offer to change rooms and no follow-up. Two more calls and finally someone showed us with a single small space heater and asked - bedroom or bathroom? It went downhill from there

Thank you to all of the staff once again for an amazing stay, especially Katy, Abbie, Frankie and Polly. The room was spotless and clean and the food was sublime. After 11 years of coming to The Pavilion, I would recommend this hotel, over all of the other hotels in York. Dave

My wife and I stayed at the Best western York Pavilion hotel for 6 nights. Overall we were very pleased with the stay. There was plenty of room in the car park every day. The hotels location was about a 30 minute walk from York City Centre or about a 10 minute bus journey, however watch out for rush hour, it can add a lot more time on the journey and it's actually quicker to walk. The room was a standard size for a King size bed option, it was cosy and provided us with a comfortable bed, two chairs, desk, bed side tables, wardrobe and ensuite bathroom. Breakfast was done very well and it is easy to understand why it has won awards. An excellently cooked and prepared full English breakfast sets you up for the day. Service was also excellent and the staff very helpful, friendly and not overbearing not just at breakfast but throughout the whole visit. The bar provides a relaxing atmosphere and a pleasant environment in the evenings and the lounge was also a relaxing place to sit relax and have a drink in front of the fire place. The bar staff again were excellent. The menu would really benefit from a few hot food options. As you are a little away from York City centre it would be nice to have the option of some hot food other than at the restaurant. Simple bar food such as jacket potatoes, burgers, chips. The sandwiches were really good however, but it is winter at the moment and these other options would give a more complete bar menu. There were a few concerns but these are not complaints. The room lost a certain amount of romantic atmosphere for us as there were several black and white pictures of male golfers staring out at us as we sat or layed on the bed. Albeit good for the golfing fans that may possibly stay, we found it a bit disconcerting and far from romantic! I would have thought that a more generic style of decorating would suit a larger customer base. If the golfing theme is needed then just keep the room names for those that stay here and visit Fulford golf course. The room was cosy, warm and actually really didn't need any pictures to enhance it. The room we stayed in, room 43, could have done with a small amount of maintenance. Maybe the cleaners can report back to someone if they see any issues. In room 43 the sink plug chain was broken, there were some untidy touch ups on the paint work in the bathroom and the wardrobe hinges made it very clunky to open and close. Not huge issues but it does show a slight lack of maintenance, at least in this one room. From what we saw of the hotel as a whole it was very clean, very well presented and nicely designed and thought out. The lounge could benefit from the furniture being moved around a bit. A whopping great table in the middle seems to be a bit pointless, the wedding paraphernalia could easily be relocated from the table and the chairs moved with more smaller tables organised to make more private 'cubby holes' that are also suitable to sit, drink and eat at. Currently most of the chairs sit around the outside of the room making it awkward to sit facing each other, especially if you would want afternoon tea. The fire place is amazing and we sat very happily opposite it on a comfortable sofa watching the flames and relaxing down from the day. As I said, overall this was a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. To sum up: room good, hotel location good, staff excellent, breakfast excellent, lounge..... just needs rearranging for an excellent, bar good, restaurant excellent, cleanliness excellent, atmosphere excellent. Just a few minor maintenance issues, (which wouldn't stop us from going back), and the black and white golfers pictures for me take one star away, so we rate this hotel 4 stars. Thank you to all the staff for a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for two nights and were fortunate to be able sbook the only wheelchair accesible room which was quite well desgned although the shower was difficult to use and there was some difficulty gaining side access to the bed. The food is good and staff absolutely superb; the bar has good draught beers.

We had a nice enough stay. The staff were pleasant and tried hard. We had a bit of an amusing Faulty Towers experience with the breakfast supervisor. Overall... a bit overpriced and the hotel needs a really good deep clean, general tidy-up, new carpets and some fresh paint. Probably new mattresses too.

My wife booked our stay some time ago to help in my recuperation from an operation and also to celebrate my birthday. We arrived early but was given our room key which was room 42 on the first floor. Whilst unpacking, we received a phone call from reception informing us that there would be a party held on Friday and Saturday evening and that the music would stop at midnight! On Friday we returned to our room at 11:00 but was unable to go to sleep until after midnight which after a long day exploring York was very annoying. Could things get any worse.........you bet! Come Saturday we were both exhausted after lack of sleep and decided to go to our room at 8. At 8:15 there were screams and expletives coming from the corridor outside. After shouting out from me the noise stopped. Then at 8:30 cue the live band. The bass caused our room to vibrate. I went to reception to complain and after some 20 mins was introduced to the duty manager who was very apologetic. I invited her up to our room to listen first hand to the music. She admitted that it was unacceptable and left to see if there was any alternative accommodation not only in Best Western but in surrounding hotels. A further 20 mins elapsed and we informed that there was no further accommodation available. We eventually got to sleep at 1 am. BW have refunded one nights accommodation as well as three days breakfast and a modest bar bill. Our complaint was handled with empathy and we have received some financial compensation. We really enjoyed our time around York but I'm afraid that BW ruined my wife's treat for me. If you ever stay at The Pavilion make sure that your room is as remote from the ballroom as possible although of course this is no guarantee that noisy partygoers will not spoil your stay

We stayed for two nights in November and were pleasantly surprised to find that the Christmas market was on in York centre. This meant that the hotel was busier than we expected at this time of year. However the staff coped really well - never showing anxiety or stress. This included a potentially stressful breakfast when everyone came down at exactly the same time. All the staff were thoroughly pleasant but I have to commend the breakfast staff in particular. Also, the bedroom was lovely and the reception rooms were delightful. In addition the bus for the city centre stopped just a few yards away which made the one mile distance to the city centre, insignificant. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone.

A typical best western type hotel. The problem I had was that I had ordered soya milk when booking the room and had also emailed reception as I am lactose intolerant. However, no soya milk had been obtained and I had to wait 35 minutes while someone went to buy some. Breakfast took over an hour. Very poor service from an otherwise good hotel.

Our group of 25 elderly pilgrims spent two enjoyable nights at the Pavilion Hotel i York during our two-week circuit of England. We were provided a banquet room for our dinners and breakfasts.The hotel has the charm of a classic roadhouse, with a manicured garden, and exceptional kitchen.

We stayed for two nights to visit the Christmas market and the city of York .I would say that the random choice we make for our stay could not have been better, the staff from the moment we arrived to the time we had to leave were polite ,and very helpful .We had dinner on the 1st night the food and the service was excellent and the breakfast was I think the best one I have had for a long time. I was at the Pavilion Hotel for a training course, and it was a very nice hotel. Nice room, and the food on offer was lovely too. The training room was nice and big, the buffet lunch was a great selection and tasty.

We stayed one night to attend the Christmas market as a last minute booking the night before it was the only room left. We are used to this hotel type and the breakfast exceeded our expectations. They were busy but service was friendly and efficient with superb food choices and catered for gluten free well. The ambience of the hotel and grounds were pleasant with parking available free of charge. We were in room 35 which is towards the back of the hotel there is a second staircase after these rooms with 3 further rooms above. There appears to be no soundproofing between these rooms with an old house the creaking when they rolled over in bed and going to the toilet(frequently happened) prevented us sleeping it sounded like someone was walking in our room or the ceiling was of n danger of falling in on us. Tiredness spoilt enjoyment of sightseeing in York with the thought of going home to sleep being more appealing. We did tell reception on checking out to prevent the next client suffering and were told they were full and appeared very aware of this rooms problems. I hope they do look at the floor boards and joists feel we wasted money staying over and would have been better staying at home and catching the train in on the day.

Booked for the wedding and couldn't have made a better choice. Special mention goes Lydia and also to Craig who both stepped in after a change of staff. Lydia could not have been more helpful on the day and any request dealt with quietly and efficiently. Every member of staff couldn't have been more helpful. Presentation of the banquet was wonderful and would fit in any high class hotel. Evening event with hog Roast, live band and DJ went seamlessly and the pork was to die for. Rooms were a joy in a traditional style and quiet despite being near a main road. It has an old fashioned charm with a county house character. Breakfast in the morning was a good selection and comparable to a recent trip to Rome. All in all a lovely pleasant stay and a venue I wouldn't hesitate to recommend for a special occasion Thank you

It is the second time this year we have stayed at the Pavilion Hotel this year,and the fifth overall, and as from our first stay to this,we have never been disappointed, staff are friendly, professional, we stayed in the Chinese room, great bed very comfortable,the room was very clean, the meal we had on our second night was very good, perfect breakfast every morning, attentive staff, we would not stay anywhere else when visiting York,

We stayed in a 4 poster bed room, with French windows opening onto a balcony, overlooking the gardens. The room was beautifully decorated & clean. Breakfast was excellent, substantial, buffet style continental with hot food made to order. The staff were always friendly & helpful. There are bus stops within a 2 minute walk of the hotel, so easy access to the centre, without having to drive. Will definitely be returning.

The welcome was friendly, and our room comfortable and clean. The food was good, especially the breakfast. The staff were helpful and polite. The final touch was a card and small present as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary.

We Paid Approx £50pppn B&B To Stay Here, Generally Hotel Staff Friendly & Helpful, Location Handy For Central York With Regular Buses Stopping Just Outside.Car Park OK. Breakfast Good. HOWEVER Room Was A Little Tired,Particularly The Bathroom Which had A Badly Cracked Sink. There Was So Much Hair From Previous Guests In The Bath Plug Hole That We Had To Clear It Before We Could Use The Bath. Check Out Was I Think 10.30am (or 11am?), But When We Came Back To Our Room After Breakfast At 9.20am, 2 Members Of Staff Where Already Turning Our Room Over & Asked Us To Wait Outside Until Finished!!! They Then Relented & Let Us In! What Was The Point?? Was It Just A Mistake?? We Stayed In The Room Another 30 Minutes To Pack & Use The Bathroom,Was It To Be Re Done Again OR Did The Next Guest Just Have To Take As Is?? On The Way To & From Breakfast & When Leaving, There Was Bedding,Towels, Electric Wires & Workmans Tools All Down The Corridors A Real Severe Trip Hazard! Sorry But The Stay Was Not Up To The Expected Standard.

We helped our daughter and her fiance choose this venue for their wedding and it turned out to be a very good decision. After a sketchy start whilst agreeing the arrangements(I believe a couple of members of staff have since left), everything was agreed and the day went as smoothly as could be expected. Star of the day was Craig who looked after our every need and couldn't have been more attentive. Don't be put off by his youthful looks- this guy knows what he is doing and has excellent customer service skills. Thank you Craig......

We arrived mid afternoon, the Reception staff were welcoming and friendly. We were staying for a weekend conference so were in the hotel for two days. The food and service were good, nothing seemed like too much trouble. Not a big fan of feather pillows though (they do need replacing), but overall very good experience.

We arrived very early and asked for somewhere to change - our room was ready so we were booked in several hours early at no extra charge. The reception staff were very helpful in getting us across York to a funeral. The restaurant is with a visit in its own right - excellent food and a good wine cellar at a very reasonable price for two. The room (with four poster) was comfortable and quiet. Parking was onsite and free. The full fried breakfast was a treat and filled us up for most of the day. We will be back!

Nice room, nice hotel, nice bar. Our first night was marred by an asthma attack brought on by excessive feather pillows and cushions. After a non-feather pillow was provided we were disturbed by noisy guests below until 12:45 when my partner went to complain. The following day we requested that all feather items were removed from the room. When we returned later that day the pillows had all been replaced, but feather cushions had been placed on top of the anti-allergen pillows. The cooked breakfast was fantastic on Sunday morning, but breakfast times here alternate and I arrived five minutes late on Monday to be told cooked breakfasts were no longer served and I would have to go "continental". There wasn't much left and what was there was past its best. The staff here are very cold towards guests, almost robotic. Would not stay here again.

Stayed here on 2 occasion now and have loved it both times... the hotel is beautiful with lovely rooms. The restaurant serves amazing food, tasty and well presented with brilliant service. The hotel staff are lovely, friendly and very helpful, we especially like the lady who seats you for your breakfast. Breakfast is lovely, well presented and has a good choice. The location of the hotel is a little out of the centre but there is a bus service which runs regularly and is non- expressive as you can buy low cost saver tickets. When staying in York we would recommend staying here. We love it...

The Hotel was in a lovely location, an excellent bus service right outside the hotel straight into York, so you had the advantage of being outside of the city but with easy access. Overall the hotel was very good, it had charm and character, it was beautifully clean and well kept and the breakfasts were great. While the food in the restaurant was good it was over priced. Make sure when you book you insist on a room away from the function area, it is busy and very noisy and when we booked into reception we had to make a fuss about not being above such a noisy area.

We just wanted to thank you for all your help with making last night's party so successful. The room looked lovely and the food was excellent. Thank you for accommodating all the odd things we wanted – and our apologies to the cleaners this morning – we had no idea the mess the confetti cannons would make. The DJ was still a talking point this morning – everyone was so impressed with his enthusiasm. Please pass on our thanks to all involved.

Building looked lovely, I can see why it's a wedding venue. We arrived well before check in time and asked if it was ok to park as we were staying. The car park is small but once you have a space it's quite easy to get to town. Bus stop practically opposite or a 25 minute walk by the river. Check in was easy. Room was a decent size with an ensuite with a bath ( shower over this). Very hot room. Window opened onto a courtyard but you got to hear all the kitchen activity until quite late. Breakfast was very good with excellent coffee. Good choice in food. Menu for evening also looked good but we ate in York most nights. Taxi back was £6 minimal wait but no races on. Would stay again.

Room not very clean on arrival. Not serviced on first day. Staff ok but not over helpful. Car park a nightmare, wedding guests get preference over residents. We had a two room apartment. Spiral staircase from sitting room to bedroom was very slippy. Apartment in need of a deep clean. Newspaper ordered but only arrived on 2 out of 3 days.

First stayed here a few weeks back, this hotel for the price represents excellent value for money in my opinion . The rooms are full of character and charm , the restaraunt is excellent ! Most of all the team are amazing ! So warm and friendly ! Tara, Frankie and James to name but a few. Great job guys ! Keep it up

This wonderful hotel ticks all the boxes for customer service. Its extremely well run. , lovely food, friendliness of staff and ambiance. We only stayed for one night and staff were very polite, helpful. the rooms nicely furnished. position was good for getting into town by bus No 7 opp the hotel and return just outside the entrance. perfect. definitely be returning. loved it!

When we booked a specific request was made for a quiet room. Upon arrival it turned out our room was above a function room. For the 2nd and 3rd nights of our stay we would have been directly above wedding discos! We were moved rooms but in the process, they 'misplaced' two items of our luggage for a hour ! - But they did eventually arrive! Breakfast was good though. You had to be lucky to get a place in their car park. But we did easily get free on road car parking close to the hotel.

We normally avoid hotel restaurants but the menu read quite nicely so we gave it a go and we were so pleased we did! We both had the chef's specials venison and partridge and we're both seriously impressed so much so that we ate there again the next night! Again we weren't disappointed. Another lovely meal - both had fish this time. Hotel may be a little jaded in places but more than made up by the really lovely staff who were so helpful to my husband. We both had a lovely stay and would stay again. Thanks to all the lovely people who looked after us so well.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was nicely furnished and was very comfortable. Meals were extra, but breakfast was a full English breakfast. Lots of parking although a bus stops outside the front door and well take you downtown to the train station. Everything is a short walk from there.

My partner and I stayed in this hotel for a weekend break bed and breakfast. the hotel looked lovely on arriving although parking was not straightforward, no designated bays, you have to find a big enough space and squeeze in. Booking in was fine, we were given the keys to our room and told where it was. Having walked through the small bar/coffee area and along a damp walled corridor we found our room. The room itself was quite small, the bed was so noisy if you moved even slightly. The bathroom needed a good uplift, the shower head was full of rust and the paintwork was shabby. The breakfast was really good but the food in the hotel restaurant was very expensive so we ate other meals elsewhere. Nice 30 min walk into town or buses stop outside for those less able. Local pub just a few doors down. There was a wedding at the hotel on the weekend we were there but it didn't cause a problem. Overall I would have expected a much nicer room for the price we paid as we could have stayed in nearer places for less money. We will not be visiting this hotel on future visits to York.

Food was really good, excellent service! Prices are also very reasonable. Very good atmosphere, great for a chill dinner. Ordered a chef's special - pan seared salmon, fish was tender and juicy, potatoes are well seasons, crayfish was sweet and not fishy. Recommended!

The hotel location was ok - we knew it wasn't city centre. Room was a little dated but ok. Had to practically dislocate my shoulder to reach the toilet roll holder! Restaurant was ok - nice food but no ambience at all. We felt really awkward! Main gripe was the lack of staff to check us out. The guy was there but wouldn't start 10 mins early! So we had to leave as we has trains to catch. Had to call up and ask for my bill to be emailed to me.

First time in York picked the hotel because it was only one mile away from the city. We've stayed in quite a lot of best western hotels,never get over how drab they appear that said we've never been disappointed. The staff are only to pleased to help we were on the ground floor with French windows on to a really nice courtyard (perfect) after our meal with a bottle of wine. The restaurant was probably the dullest one we've been in but the service was good the food was great . Breakfast was very good ,very good variety sausages are really nice. All in all very nice place to stay and to dine.

Welcoming staff and great ambiance. Very clean. ...but there were little touches that could have improved our stay. No lights working in the bedroom, shower was boiling or off, no menu given at breakfast, expensive mediocre sandwiches for snack menu. I would return but would stay in the main hotel and not in the apartments which seemed to be forgotten even though the rates were the same.

Stayed here on bank holiday weekend for a friends wedding. It was fantastic from start to finish. The wedding was lovely, the food first class and the service second to none. The room we had was a four poster bed, very nice and I know it's a small thing but definitely one of the best complimentary toiletries for a long time. Breakfast was lovely and we left very happy after a lovely stay. Thank you to everyone for a lovely experience, would love to come back one day

I attended the wake of a family member recently at the Pavillion Hotel in York. It is ideally situated for the cemetery in Fulford. The private function room was lovely, the tables were set nicely and the staff were very helpful and polite. I understand that the cost of the wake was approximately £15 per head, which did of course include room hire and staffing. For this there was a round of sandwiches per head and a jam and cream scone. This was all presented nicely. However upon biting into the scone it was literally like biting into a brick and I could tell that something had seriously gone wrong with the baking process, ingredients or both. It was hard to actually tell what it was supposed to be - biscuit, scone or otherwise. In any event it was inedible. Everyone was very 'British' about it and didn't want to make a fuss, particularly as it was a sad occasion. I would have hoped a hotel of such high standard would not have served something like that, even if they had to buy fresh scones in to rectify the obvious problem particularly when the cost of the function was so high.

Enjoyed 2 nights with my family at this hotel. The rooms were very clean and the staff friendly. The breakfasts were very good and the gardens beautiful. Parking so difficult in York was easy here as this hotel has a car park. A great stay.

Booked this for my girlfriend's birthday and we thought this was a great location - the bus stop is over the road and a return costs £2.40 each. We loved being able to pop in and out of town so conveniently. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel acts as a great base for exploring. Watch out for parking as it's limited, this wasn't obvious to me until I received a confirmation email, luckily we got a space but only just. Whilst the bed was comfortable I unfortunately can't say I got a good nights sleep as we were in room 17 which was next to the cleaner's office. They were not quiet and were talking loudly which woke me up both mornings - not conducive to a relaxing weekend away. Most of the staff were lovely and really helpful. However, the manager at breakfast was a little abrupt. I also spotted him speaking in an aggressive manner to one of the waiters - they were slow and not very accommodating but I didn't want to see or hear them being spoken to by their manager like this; it was unprofessional and awkward, especially at breakfast. The breakfast itself was okay, I'd be annoyed if I paid the menu price of £15 but was alright to start the day. They do serve gluten free bread which was a big plus for us as my girlfriend is coeliac. Overall, a pretty good hotel, we enjoyed our stay and it was fine as a base to enjoy beautiful York.

This hotel is lovely and we liked seeing the history, walking the halls and staying there. Our second floor room opened to a courtyard. In the evening there were a number of smokers socializing there and their cigarette smoke wafted into our room both Saturday and Sunday nights, which was a small problem but we survived. The breakfast was very nice. Every member of the staff we met was thoughtful, friendly and helpful. The restaurant was nice and we enjoyed out Sunday roast. Despite the fact there were weddings throughout the weekend, we heard no loud noises or even music. Good visit.

Went for a night away with the Mrs in York. The place is too far out of town! Tried using the public transport but found it quicker to walk 30 minutes than take the bus on the Sunday, which ain't great! Would strongly advise paying the extra £10-£20 to be in town. The only bonus is if there's a wedding on the night you stay (which there was for us) then you can nab a plate of food from the buffet, which I certainly did!

We stayed here for two nights the weekend of the Ebor race meeting. The location of the hotel in Fulford was excellent both for the racecourse and for York . Race weekend in York is excessively busy and the centre of York after the races is something else in terms of masses of people heading for the bars and restaurants. We have stayed in the centre previously and the beauty of this hotel was being able to return to the area and be away from the madness with some nice pubs nearby . However whether it's race weekend or not I would return to this hotel without doubt and recommend it highly. The grounds are lovely with a private courtyard and lovely spaces around to sit and have coffee or a drink. The building is full of character and the room we had was lovely . It was the Scarborough room and had a canopied bed comfortable seating area lovely bathroom and was very comfortable and pleasant . The staff without exception were friendly professional and helpful. The ambience of the hotel was lovely. We didn't eat at the hotel for dinner but we had breakfast and it was superb. There was a continental selection with homemade goodies knit ...Greek yogurt and homemade compote and then joy of joys a proper freshly cooked breakfast made to order and a choice of the usual full English or kipper or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs etc. Alll freshly cooked and very very good and brought to your table !!! This is a three star hotel and I recommend that some of the 4/5 star hotels that I have stayed in take a leaf out of their book. How nice to have a hot fresh meal instead of some of the sad bacon and eggs languishing on a luke warm buffet. If you are thinking of staying in York definitely look up this little gem!!!

The hotel is ideally situated both to the town centre and York Race Course. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights. A 30 minute walk along the river brings you to the York Museum and the start of the town centre. Bus stops outside the hotel if you do not want to walk. The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was pleasant and clean. Outside there are a number of very nice 'garden/floral' seating areas. Breakfast was excellent with the hot food cooked fresh. The one evening meal we had at the hotel was likewise excellent. Should we stay in York in the future we will definitely stay again.

I had a fantastic experience with York Pavilion. I wasn't sure about this venue when me and my wife first went to visit, but after speaking to the staff and looking around we were very eager to book. Ever since then, the staff have been absolutely amazing! Anything they could do to help, anything that we needed they did. They added beds to our rooms, they answered my calls at any hour and we always had a drink when we needed one. Best of all they were invested in what they were doing. A member of staff welled up during the ceremony which shows how much effort they put in. If I had to sum this place up I'd use the words flexible, caring, people focused and full of enthusiasm. I can't praise this place highly enough. The help and support of the staff made our day, and without them it wouldn't have been half as magical as it was! I'm so glad that we chose this venue.

Four of us stayed at this hotel from Friday until Sunday . We were in York for the Racing . The hotel is situated perfectly for this . We took a lovely walk from the hotel to the race course . It's also perfect for the buses into York . The stops are right outside the hotel for both ways . The hotel was lovely . Calm and relaxing atmospher the staff cannot be more helpful either with advice or service . The staff were also very friendly and approachable and that included all the staff tat we came into contact with which was excellent . We had a room with a four poster bed , and I must say it was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in . All the rooms are interesting to be in with the decor and Pictures . We all loved the hotel and will definitely be going to stay again . Hopefully for a little longer next time . We only had breakfast at the hotel and it was always very nice and hot .

Stayed in the Frankie Howard room- lovely view, shame about the intermittent wi-fi. We were staying across the weekend - very close to York, very convenient location to the A64. Only criticism to the hotel itself is the lack of women's sanitary products available. It would have been nice if we didn't have to leave the wedding to go to the pub down the road to buy sanitary products from the bathroom. All staff were friendly except the woman organising breakfast. When we gave our names, she asked us to wait in a residents lounge for a table to be available - no problem - however, when we asked where this was, she snapped at us.

Just returned back from a two night break at this lovely little hotel. Our room was lovely with a four poster bed and very spacious. There was a wedding going on but with so many staff around you did not feel pushed out at all. The breakfast was lovely as was the staff as always. We have stayed at this hotel before this is our 3rd time. Always a very warm welcome. The location is great as you are on the road into the City Centre which is just a bus or taxi journey away which costs around £5. We travelled up into the Dales and the surrounding areas. We love York and will definitely be back. Many thanks

We stayed for one night on a Saturday, on the first floor overlooking the courtyard. It was a pleasant room, and everything was in order. There was a wedding taking place that day, so we were unable to park in the car park as it was full, and it was still full the next morning when I tried to move the car over to load the luggage - we were able to park on a side street just over the road to the left, but beware as I believe some areas are permit parking. We did drive straight past it, as coming from York city centre there wasn't a visible sign for the hotel, just for the restaurant. It was a very hot day, but they had provided a fan in the room, and we used the bar to buy espressos, which was a bonus. Breakfast was lovely, and we sat by the double doors leading to the garden, which was very beautiful.

Had a wonderful 2 night stay. Our room was called Singapore room and was furnished to the theme with bamboo patterned wallpaper and pictures of tigers. Delightfully eccentric. The room next door was called boogie woogie so I imagine that was a disco room! The full English breakfast was substantial and with delicious bacon and sausage, and very good value. You can walk into York or get a no 7 bus. A good base for a York break. Parking is available.

Just returned after three night stay. We were given a ground floor room in the courtyard and were more than pleased with the location. The bed was comfy and there was a powerful shower over the bath. Whilst having the usual toiletries and hairdryer, the room also had a fan and an iron and ironing board - really useful and saved having to go to reception to request. The towels were white and fluffy and the bed linen was of good quality. We had considered booking a hotel in the city centre but I'm so glad we didn't. There is a bus stop near hotel and we were into the centre of York with no hassle about where to park the car. (Most of city centre hotels either don't have parking or limited parking on a first come first served basis). This hotel has a fair sized car park and we parked there with no problem at all, even though there was a wedding taking place when we arrived. The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We didn't eat in the hotel at night, so can't comment on that. If I return to York I will certainly stay at this hotel.

A very busy weekend in York - this was the only room available and we turned out to be very pleased about that! The hotel is quaint - very picturesque. It is family run and great pride was taken in our comfort and our enjoyment of the stay. The rooms are clean although our room was particularly cold being at the far end of the hotel. A heater was provided which rectified this. The cooked breakfasts were excellent and the cold buffet area was amazingly well stocked. The decor is established and not trendy but that does not mean it was of poor quality more like quirky. A lovely stay in a lovely hotel. The walk into York is about 2 miles and takes a good 30 mins. Taxis are easy to come by on the way into town but be aware that taxis back to the hotel can be subject to a long wait if it is a race meeting or a festival is happening in the town center.

A romantic weekend away with my wife started with a stay at the Best Western. It looks great and ticks a lot of the boxes but something is missing. Picturesque, full of character, with lots to look at however some areas need a makeover and our room needed modernising. Only ate breakfast there (which was adequate) so can't comment on lunch or evening meals. The problem is we didn't really want to stay for food and as I have already said something is missing. I wanted to give this a higher rating and I am sure that others will find what they are looking for but just not for us.

Looking for a hotel to explore York City and the surrounding area. This one suited us down to the ground. Room a little small but we didn`t specify so hey. Breakfast was excellent plenty of choice and freshly cooked couldn't ask for more. Downside no lift and no one offered to porter the suitcase also the bar was not very comfy with bamboo type chairs more like you would find in a patio setting. All in all a good choice.

Pretty good hotel, attractive setting in nice on the outskirts of York, 10 mins by car or 30 mins walk. Good room overlooking a fountain, a little road noise but not intrusive, not compared with the next room shower at 6am, it really needs soundproofing. Best by a long way was the dinner, fillet Rossini, most excellent dinner I have had for a good while, and the wine was good too. My full English breakfast was almost cold, it ruined it for me but I did not send it back, I should have done, I regret that now, they should be told at the time, I guess it was too long waiting to come out. All in all I would return if in the area but would try for a hotel in the city but not likely to return to York as I've seen enough.

Came to this hotel because it was just outside York and easy access to the city, lovely family run business, we were given a rather small room on the first night because the hotel was full due to a wedding, after a mention it was no trouble to be put in a much larger and better room, the meals in the restaurant excellent and staff very friendly, also anybody needing a elect car charger in the car park is free to use for residents, on the whole we would highly recommend a stay.

Played golf at Fulford Golf Club and this hotel was chosen because it is conveniently close. The car park is a little snug but there is plenty of room. The reception was friendly and the facilities were fully explained. The weather was hot and humid so the fan in the room was very welcome. Food was good and served with a smile which did make for a pleasant evening. A most enjoyable stay and I would use this hotel again.

On our arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome at this old coaching inn. We went to our room that was the Plan Room to find it was quiet and comfortable and overlooked the courtyard bliss. We found the plans interesting to the development of the hotel. We dinned in the former dinning room with a small but varied menu choice, and all well presented and cooked well. A varied breakfast choice that was first class. Would stay here again.

We arrived exhausted, after an 8 hour drive from the Sou h Coast. Were greeted with a friendly smile fro Tracy the receptionist, who kindly checked us in and booked our evening meal in the dining room that evening. Our room was very comfortable and clean with lovely ensuite bathroom, and super shower, all facilities for making tea/coffee etc,

Came in earlier this morning to enquire about breakfast. We weren't staying at the hotel but were passing by so we thought we'd pop in to see if breakfast was available as we were looking for somewhere to eat. We walked in and asked the young man on reception if the hotel served a breakfast for non-guests/members of the public to which he replied " Yeah. ..I think so". He didn't seem 100% sure so directed us round to the restaurant and said " just go ask in there.. it should be alright". Strange answer but we walked round anyway. We then stood for a few minutes in the restuarant waiting to be acknowledged by a member of staff. No sign of one until we were then approached by a member of the housekeeping team ( I know this as she told us) - carrying a whole pile of things and seemed up to her neck in work - who said she would go and get a member of restaurant staff. A young girl then came to us who i assume was part of the catering team and we made enquiries about breakfast again. She told us that the hotel do serve a breakfast usually but we'd missed it as they stop serving at 9:30. My friend and I both looked at the time and it was 9:32. We asked her if there was any chance they could still do a breakfast for us as it was only two minutes after time. She told us bluntly " no as she's ( presuming the "she" referred to is the chef?) has turned everything off now" I thought this was a bit quick of the mark as we were only two minutes after closing and I said jokingly" Well she sounds very eager" to which the staff member sharply replied " Well yes she is eager" ....???? Odd response to a customer I thought. Also bear in mind the fact that we'd spent more than two minutes just stood near the bar waiting for a member of staff. If we hadn't had to wait as long to be acknowledged we may have made it in time. We then left and went up to Ed's diner at the designer outlet where we enjoyed a lovely breakfast and excellent customer service. It's suprising really as I can see a clear difference in the hotel compared to when I had my wedding there 7 years ago. The customer service and organisation then were outstanding and the staff could not do enough for us or any of our guests. Furthermore i also phoned the hotel a few weeks ago to enquire about another matter and the person I spoke to on the phone was very vague and didn't seem to know much about where she worked. It seems the Pavilions standards have declined somewhat which is a shame as I used to think so highly of this hotel.

This small country house makes a relaxing hotel right on a bus route to York making a visit to both historic York and the city shopping easy. Our room was comfortable with furniture that gave it a homely feel. Lots of power outlets for our IT and plenty of hot water for us but the bath did take time to drain. If you rather not eat in the hotel there is a pub a short walk both ways along the road.

This is a great hotel and very nice service. Check in was very easy and friendly. Rooms are nice with just enough to keep you going for the night. It's a old house and it truly beautiful. Breakfast buffet is just the basics needs but then how much can you eat, al the breakfast mains are on order and therefore fresh. Free parking and free wifi. About 15 minutes from the city center. Great stay!

We have stayed here several times before and would recommend it. Very convenient for city centre and university. Nice room, king sized bed and good breakfast, husband loved the power shower. We hope to be back again in September.

If anyone is looking for a Wedding Venue...look no more!! York Pavilion made my Wedding day magical. These are the exact words, sent via email to all involved. I wanted to thank you both from the bottom of my heart, for making my Wedding day so special, perfect and memorable. And although I panicked, last minute, and I couldn't have wished for any better reassurance from Karen, who also made my day magical. The planning and tables were absolutely perfect. And the whole venue fantastic. My only negative was, that the day ended. The whole of our guests were amazed by it all and totally enjoyed the hotels surroundings and found the food, to be delicious. Karen, thank you for everything, with your friendly, professional guidance throughout our day, made it spectacular and something we will never forget. Please ensure that the owners read my email, as they too, must praise the fantastic work you both do. And we hope to revisit York Pavilion in the near future. I highly recommended York Pavilion Hotel.

Returned here for the third time, this time for four days. I just love the fact that the hotel has an individual and almost homely feel about it.Very friendly and attentive staff be it reception, bar or restaurant. Good food at both breakfast and dinner. Very handily location for both the City Centre and the main A roads. A ten minute bus ride every ten minutes at £1.80 makes getting into York very easy. Only negative for those who love air conditioning is that the hotel doesn't have any. It was very warm when I was there but the fan and an open window did the trick. Would like to see a fridge in the room as well. I shall return

We stayed 1 night for our wedding anniversary after spending the day sightseeing round York. The hotel is set just outside the city away from the hustle, bustle and hen/stag parties that were around the city centre. The setting makes it a lovely quiet location. There is an on site car park for guests. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and dressed in a very traditional country style in keeping with the period of the property. Check in was quick and informative. We booked our evening meal in advance as apparently the dining room can become busy. The dining area is small and personal with a lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious. The rooms are elegantly dressed especially so for a 3 star hotel. There are several garden/courtyard areas which are nice to sit in weather permitting. There was a wedding party and a golden wedding party there when we stayed but as they were in function rooms we hardly noticed them and weren't disturbed by them at all. You can pay more for 4 star+ hotels but if you want a smaller, quieter more personal service I would definitely recommend the York pavilion. The house feels very historic and is much bigger than it appears from the outside. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend it to others.

We needed to find a hotel in York for 1 night to go to a family party. It was the weekend of York Races so many places were either booked, wanted a 2 night stay or were very expensive by usual standards. We found this hotel and read the reviews. It sounded very good so we managed to book directly with the hotel. Reception were very helpful and accommodating of our needs. We arrived to have lunch on the Saturday. This was a lovely meal for the price and in a beautiful dining room. Unfortunately we were unable to book in after the lunch so went on the local bus to look around the Designer Centre10 minutes away. Our room was on the ground floor and overlooked the pretty courtyard gardens. It was clean and a good size with traditional furnishings. Breakfast next morning was varied and plentiful. Hot food was cooked to order. We were very pleased with the hotel. It had a good sized carpark. We discovered Interesting history about John Barry the composer living there and on the Monday a Blue Plaque was unveiled on the wall of the hotel. This was a good find.

Only stayed one night and did not use restaurant as we were meeting people in York. We found the staff very pleasant and the hotel reminded me of the old Crest Hotels. Would recommend for conveniance and location.

This hotel is in a lovely historic building, check in was very quick and the staff was very friendly. Room was a little small but the bed was comfortable. It was very warm while we where there but they had a portable fan in the room. Bathroom was roomy and there was plenty of hot water. We walked in to York (1/2 hr) it was a nice stroll. We really like how quiet this hotel was a little further away from the tourist area. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel. We where only there for the one night and had a nice breakfast in the hotel that morning . Serve was a little slow but the food was delicious.

I had a lovely stay at the York Pavilion on the eve of a job interview and was placed there by the University, so glad they chose such a charming place. The reception staff were kind enough to accept and hold a parcel for me that was ready for collection at check-in; provided great travel advice before I arrived and had a taxi waiting for me when I needed one. I enjoyed the garden on the left by the bar, with the quirky owl and the new herbs and potted plants and had a great dinner out there on a warm summer evening. I had a simple salad with langoustines and another dish with peas, edamame and sliced radish with cheese curdles - I wasn't sure what to expect but it was finely prepared, well presented and delicious; there was also a mystery flavour which the kind and hospitable bartender (Jack?) let me know was local honeycomb! Breakfast also included fresh chilled homemade yogurt with fresh make-your-own muesli and fresh compote - it's really in the detail, the kitchen definitely shouldn't be underrated! All in all a cosy oasis outside the bustle of the town centre (short ride on bus directly to train station and town centre).

Arrived early, went to reception to let them know i was leaving my car in the car park and would check in later as we were getting the bus into york, I was surprised when they said the have a room ready if I want to check in now We are in are late sixties the room was up lots of narrow stairs ,with twists and turns. We were in the attic . No wardrobe. saniflow toilet and a really small shower unit ,you do not want this room 16 . Told James on reception and was giving much better room with a bath which I had asked for. That apart my stay was lovely the room was really nice, it's a lovely hotel and the breakfasts are great.

Nice hotel a little out of town but we walked to the town centre in about 45 mins. The hotel is a nice place to stay with friendly staff. Would stay again. Good free parking. Restraunt for breakfast was good with friendly staff.

I picked this hotel for my two night stay as we had booked up on the northern belle train, Hotel very clean, good menu, red hot water on tap, good food {having said that my lamb was tough} but very tasty the service was second to none and all staff we met were friendly and very professional I had room 19 on ground floor good clean room, but it never is all good ,?? noisy floor boards in room above, yuk, and beds although very clean had seen better days. I would recommend the Pavillion to any one visiting York park and ride just outside gate, and I would certainly use it again.

Stayed at the York Pavilion after visiting the nearby Outlet village and wanting to spend some time in York. The Hotel was convenient to both with a free car park, only a £6 taxi fare away from town. The hotel is country house style, offering comfortable, lived-in accommodation with friendly staff, spacious dining rooms and good value food. Bedroom was quiet, affording a good night's sleep in a good sized bed. Good spacious shower was a welcome addition. Like happily stay here again

We were spending time with family over the weekend so decided rather then drive home we had arranged to stay overnight in York and had booked an apartment. Car parking was slightly difficult as there was a wedding on but my partner is a good driver and managed to get the car parked in a small space. Check in was good and receptionist was very professional and helpful. What a lovely surprise on entering the apartment, it was all one could ask for. Clean, a good size although the sofa bed was a tad uncomfy as a sofa. We had a busy day walking around York and then the National Railway museum and we didnt fancy going to the hotel bar, so we got a couple of beers and watched tv. There was an excellent power shower and the towels were nice and big. The bed was so comfy and if we hadnt arranged to meet the family early I would have been happy to stay in bed later. Although we were in the apartment we booked to have breakfast and oh what a breakfast it was. Set in a beautiful room, with great staff and the choices to eat was fantastic. One thing I would like to suggest, although the living room had a dimmer light switch I would so much prefer a side lamp. Thank you so much for a great stay.

Stayed here for a work related event in June 2017. Number 1 attribute of the hotel by far was the staff - very friendly and professional and above all welcoming. Room was at front of the property and despite being on the main road side of the hotel there was little or no noise from traffic. In the morning there was a great freshly cooked breakfast option and the very generous coffee pot was much appreciated to set me up for the day! As with all Best Westerns it had an intricate but charming layout and each room is unique so it certainly has character. There was a lovely little courtyard area too and a lounge that despite looking like the communal area of an old people's home was very pleasant!

Stayed in here for the weekend, 1st time in York. Nice walk along the river into York (approx 30 mins). Very little choice in restaurant so didn't eat and barely drunk due to lack of staff (wedding guests had priority). Room was clean but noisy and had little sleep due to road & wedding guests.... Nice hotel but disappointed considering how much we paid & no breakfast!

The York Pavilion Hotel is situated about 20 to 30 minutes walk along the main road to York and this will lead you more or less to the town centre. It is far better though to cross the other side of the road, walk for about 10 minutes turning left and make your way along the made path along the river. It takes longer, us about 40 mins but a lovely amble. I am sure you will not get many cities with such a beautiful approach. Anyway back to the hotel, where my wife and I stayed for one night Friday the 26th May. Our immediate impression was 'Wow, what a great place for a wedding' only to see a wedding arrival. Other reviewers have left enough excellent pictures for you to get a feel of the place. But what really makes a great hotel is the staff. My wife and I found them wonderful and friendly. The bar area is a nice relaxing area to have a drink, before having dinner in the restaurant. The meal was excellent and I am surprised that the hotel has not got an AA red rosette for its standard. It was that good in my opinion. I hope to go to York again and this is the hotel I would stay in.

We stayed here for three nights and had a great time. We couldn't fault the staff on reception or the restaurant staff. The public areas were lovely and the breakfasts amazing. There were lots of shady places to sit outside and the hotel was only a short distance from the centre of York -£6-£7 by taxi. The only improvement would be our room which was a bit tired and the bathroom needed updating. But it was comfy and quiet.

This hotel was nothing short of excellent! I'm sat here the morning after the wedding and I genuinely cannot think of a single thing that the hotel staff didn't get perfectly right. Anyone who knows me would happily tell you I always find something wrong, well not in this case. We knew our wedding day would always be special but the hotel staff went above and beyond to make sure our day ran perfectly. The events staff (Shannon and Karen) had clearly done their homework and listened to what we wanted in the pre wedding meetings. The venue may have a 3 star rating but that really doesn't do this hotel justice. When we were selecting a venue we visited loads but the instant that my (then fiancée now wife) took a seat in the residents lounge whilst we awaited our pre arranged meeting to discuss options, we were sold..the hotel feels so well run but has a comfortable homely feel. Overall if anyone is looking for a wedding venue or just a hotel for a weekend away I would highly recommend this one.

We were shown to a delightful room on the ground floor with doors leading out onto a terrace which, although not completely private, was a delight - particularly as we arrived in sunshine! The room was on the small size but beautifully decorated and very comfortable - the bathroom also a little "cosy" but very clean and quite adequate. The breakfast was lovely and well served, likewise the two dinners we had - quite delicious on both evenings. The service is exemplary, all the staff very well trained! There is good parking and, although not in the middle of York itself (a bonus from a noise point of view) is on a bus route right into the centre of York. This is a very attractive hotel and would be wonderful for a wedding!

We booked one of the apartments here and found the room to be very quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed the extra room to relax in and to eat our own breakfasts. Location is OK, but a bit far from the walled center of town. Note that the apartments are across the street so it is a little hair-raising to cart one's luggage across the busy road. And the kitchenette is very basic, not suitable for preparing a meal. There is an electric tea kettle but no coffee pot.

Thank you for a wonderful weekend. The room we received was excellent including an unexpected upgrade. Food all weekend was lovely. 2 tiny criticisms are about the temperature of the room and the scrambled egg. The room despite having the fan going all day and night the room was still tok warm. The scrambled egg was bland and powdery but to the hotel's credit when we requested different eggs the 2nd morning this was provided with excellent service and a smile. The wedding on Saturday afternoon and evening was no exception. All in all a wonderful weekend - thank you

A friend and I visited the Pavillion for lunch. We were looking out for somewhere to have a light lunch and spotted a sign saying '2 courses £10'. What a revelation! Really good car park. Proper table linen, beautiful setting and lovely, attentive staff. The menu wasn't huge but a really good selection, cooked and presented so well. We were only here for lunch so aren't able to review the hotel but if it is up to the same standard there could be no complaint. We will definitely be here again.

Enjoyed my stay here, my first time in a Best Western hotel and would recommend them. Lovely inside and nicely furnished. Good size rooms and good bathroom with excellent shower. Freshly cooked breakfast and good selection of continental. Only thing that lets it down is the scrambled eggs are bought in and not freshly cooked which was disappointing with lovely smoked salmon but would definitely stay again and just ask for a poached egg instead !

Again, I have been thoroughly looked after by the staff at The Pavilion hotel in York. A special thank you to Rebecca Hocknull and Amber George, who looked after all of my needs, when I dined in the restaurant, along with the chef, who yet again, provided me with a fantastic meal. Just finished a two course meal at the Pavillion fulford. Garden herb gnocchi and the oven roast chicken in red wine gravy! Awesome awesome awesome. Chunky chips and a cafetiere on the side. Friendly prompt service in a beautiful surrounding. Honestly couldn't ask for more. And the whole thing comes in under 15 pound. Might have to see if they've a free bed!

We returned to the York Pavilion Hotel again last weekend for an overnight stop for family purposes. This is the 3rd time we have stopped since the beginning of last November and find the excellent people, quality and value for money consistently still the same. We are greeted as old friends, the room was spacious, clean and provided plenty of hot water, The shower was great and the provision of bath sheets was first class. The restaurant dinner was fantastic, try the duck or Sea Bass, a really fine dining experience. The service at the tables is excellent, Thank you to Amber and Sean for their attention to detail. Breakfast was served professionally with a great choice of either a full English or Continental being available. Thank you again for another stay and we look forward to returning again in July

Attended niece wedding on 23rd whilst looked nice as weather great was not really up to standard. There appeared to be no organised timings so sat round a lot waiting for meal to start, then took about hour and half to turn room round for evening reception. When evening food put out in an other room only by chance someone passed by and saw it, same later when cake put out. Worse still was at 7 someone went into men's and found that someone else had soiled floor and spread it all over. This was reported straightaway to reception but by time we left at midnight it still had not been cleaned and toilets still in use. Also booked an apartment no mention at time of booking it was not actually in hotel but across very busy road.

A wonderful hotel, comfortable bed for a great nights sleep followed by an amazing breakfast experience! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Dinner on the restaurant was wonderful with a relaxed atmosphere and delicious food.

We stayed here for a easter break and a great stay we had we was welcomed in and a quick check in ,room was clean ,cosy ,comfi large room nice clean bathroom ,great touch we had a easter egg in room which we enjoyd .breakfast was best we,ve had nice selection of food and u can order off the menu aswell .the bar is nice and cosy ,good selection of drinks and otter ale ,try the rhubrab gin and tonic good value .nice easy stroll into city about 20mins or 25mins if u walk by the river ,overall great stay would recommend to all

This hotel in a quaint building oozes solid stylish English cosyness. Wonderful breakfast, buffet and full cooked English breakfast with lots of choice. Attentive service. Bit difficult to move luggage from the large free parking space to the rooms, no lifts. Good sleep quality, nice bedding. Bit moldy bathroom, in need of service and a fresh lick of paint.

Booked two rooms for Good Friday just the day before travel. Hotel offered free on sight parking which was important as York city centre is very busy and expensive to park. We arrived approx 5pm and we're lucky to find just about the last available space. Reception was efficient and friendly and we were directed to our rooms on 3rd floor at front of hotel overlooking the main road. No lift available and after impressive panelled main staircase the last set of stairs were narrow and steep but we had been offered help with bags. One room was larger than the other but main difference was height of ceiling, the lower one making the room feel a bit cramped and the wooden sash windows did nothing to keep out the traffic noise from the road. The larger room next door had secondary glazing which helped. Both ensuites were adequate with shower & toiletries and tea/coffee and biscuits in the bedrooms. We walked along the main road into town and then cut down to riverside which was a very pleasant walk - took approx 30 mins. York is a wonderful vibrant city and we returned much later fed & watered to the hotel to comfortable beds & good nights sleep. Breakfast next morning was quick & efficient service & we enjoyed cereals, fruit, yogurt & juices from a separate help yourself area followed by full English cooked to order and scrambled egg with smoked salmon, tea & coffee. The head man who appeared to be in charge made sure everything ran smoothly. This hotel is full of character with several comfy inviting public rooms to relax with the papers etc. Well done York Pavilion hotel and staff.

We stayed for one night while taking a visit to York. The hotel from the outside was gorgeous with lots of wisteria and beautiful gardens. Had a great welcome from Matt who was very friendly, thorough and helpful. Matt gave us a recommendation for dinner which we took up and we had a delicious meal at the Yak and Yeti in the town. We had a very large room (no.40) which had views of the lovely garden and also a balcony. The only feedback is that while everywhere was spotlessly clean I found the room and parts of the Hotel very dated. Some of it just looked a bit tired to me and could do with some brightening up like the room we were in. Have to say though that the bed was one of the cosiest ever and both slept like babies. Breakfast options were superb! Such a variety and the breakfast buffet area was fab. Very modern. Overall a great stay but just think the Hotel needs a lick of paint and some extra modern twists to it.

Having stayed here before I nonetheless was pleasantly surprised by the warm and friendly welcome , despite being such a busy time of year. The staff were warm friendly and helpful, the room was small but cosy, the bed comfortable and quiet. Despite being above the bar area. The 2 breakfasts we had were well layed out, displaye, fresh and the cooked orders hot and tasty. The coffee was fresh and hot! We used the bar in the evening and again the staff were friendly, with a good range of beers, including local brews. The car parking was adequate and I felt happy leaving my car there safe and secure. We used the bus during the day.!

This hotel is clean and comfortable on the outskirts of York. A good 40 minutes walk from the centre which was a bit too far for us when we wanted to stroll around the city and not spend time walking along the Fulford Road which is one of the main roads into York and not especially attractive. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. We were in Aunty Marjories Room which was a superior room. We opted to spend extra and were a little disappointed about the size of the room and the balcony had a number of room leading onto it which made us feel a tad insecure. We booked through booking.com. I would suggest you check the hotel website prior to booking as we could have secured a better deal booking direct. As a result felt the hotel not particular good value especially as there were probably better rooms available at a cheaper rate.

We stayed here for the weekend for my husbands birthday, all the staff are very friendly and welcoming,Our room was in need of a little TLC but other than that our stay was great and we would recommend it to anyone. The breakfast menu is amazing!!! The only negative is that they tried to over charge us for our room but luckily I had my conformation email with us to prove the original price when booking . !!

Stayed here numerous times , excellent location 5 mins from centre of York and only a couple mins from main A64 ring road , hotel is well run , Breakfasts are excellent freshly cooked high quality and cold Buffett too as good as any ware , rooms are quite individual some are a little small but all in all would highly recommend

We stayed for a weekend to see friends in York and go to the theatre checking in was really easy and quick food was good and the service in the lounge and excellent the room was comfortable and spacious and nothing is too much trouble for the helpful friendly staff we asked for them to arrange a taxi and the service was very prompt will go back again
