Best Western Waldhotel Eskeshof

Best Western Hotel in a silent area but not too far from the city center. Who want to walk or run find the right place, Nordbahntrasse, very closed to the hotel. Parking places are available directly at the location.

We only visited the restaurant which has been refurnished to a more rudimentary style. The former presentation was far superior. We were relatively frequent visitors to the Eskeshof restaurant, even hosting family celebrations there but this really belongs to the past and we wont go back again. The menu has been drastically cut back but not the prices! The schnitzels we ordered were somewhat dry and appeared to have been uniformly prefabricated and out of a freezer. Only one waiter served. When phoning for a reservation, the service is not very welcoming ….to say the least. Sorry but Eskeshof is only a shade of its former and wont see us return.

This review does not refer to the hotel, but only to the restaurant in the hotel building. The hotel is located at the end of a rather densely built residential street with chaotic parking conditions. The hotel does have its own parking lot and a small parking garage, but even this fills up quite quickly, especially when large family gatherings are held in the restaurant. The rooms of the restaurant can be found by passing through some rather confusing and winding corridors. The ambience is a bit old-fashioned. The service is not really professional, which you notice during the whole stay. Even the payment process only works reasonably promptly if you intercept your waitress at the billing computer. You have to wait a long time before you get the chance to reorder drinks. So you sit for quite a long time in front of empty glasses. But now to the main thing: food. Various schnitzels are offered with French fries and a side salad. The salad is okay, but the schnitzel not at all. The meat is dried out, the breading has a consistency that corresponds to that of frozen products. The whole product is too salty and not really edible. Thus, several guests ate the schnitzel only in part. And this was not noticed by the waitress. It was also not asked at all whether the food was okay. The fries, on the other hand, were edible. A very long time ago, this was a recommendable restaurant where many locals liked to eat.

We stayed for 2 days for a short break. We had a nice corner room with a nice view. The room was just good enough, not too spacious but clean. The swimming pool & sauna were great. Next to the hotel is a meadow where you can walk to go to the Supermarket. The breakfast was okay. The terras part was beautiful. Friendly staff.

Very nice place with good service. good place to spend a several days in business travel. I was surprised by large portions in the restaurant and good cuisine. room quiet and comfortable. staff very friendly

I stayed on business for 3 nights. The room and bathroom were really nice, clean and quite spacious. The staff were all very friendly. Whilst I was staying, there were some building works going on in the rooms next door, but didn't really affect me. Cleaning staff came around early, but was staying on business, so again didn't really affect my stay. The swimming pool and health suite facilities were great, the pool was warm and located in the basement of the hotel. The hotel is located outside of the main town, but there are multiple bus routes that stop on the streets near the hotel. There is a meadow just outside the hotel, which you can walk through to get to one of the main roads for the buses. I didn't use the restaurant. I opted to go to a local Aldi store, about a 15 minute walk from the hotel or eat out in the city.

Personnel of the hotel was friendly and helpful. It was nice to have wellness and swimming pool available in the evening. Breakfast room looks very nice. The hotel is surrounded with natural area, nice to take a stroll for some fresh air. In total, my stay was ok, but I would not especially recommend it to a friend or colleague. The room in the accommodation gives a bit of an outdated impression. Though daily maintenance is good, the mid-term maintenance (little damages and the state inside the rooms) could be better. I was surprised about a hotel rated with 4 stars without minibar, without peeping hole in the door, etc. Breakfast is ok, but the sausages were cold, the juice is not fresh, only remains of scrambled eggs available (nice bread and local meat products, though). In a hotel with wellness, one would expect a bathrobe in the room and extra towels at the sauna/swimming pool, which all was not there. Although the location is nice and quiet, it is located far out of the city centre. Many hotels in Wuppertal have ridiculous room rates compared to other cities, this hotel included. I'm in a good mood, else I may have rated 2 out of 5.

Only the restaurant is evaluated here, not the hotel. When you enter the hotel and go through to the restaurant, you have to realize that nothing has changed in terms of furnishings for a very long time. Everything looks therefore a little as if coming from another time. The dishes on the menu are not very imaginative, but they should appeal to the traditional clientele. There are mostly dishes on the menu, which one expects in a normal German restaurant. The restaurant's service is friendly, attentive and fast. The food is good (I liked the side salad), but this is not the kind of superior cuisine you might expect in such a hotel. In any case, the price-performance ratio is good. On the website of the hotel you can find out that there is a restaurant, but you won't find a menu.

Stayed for one night on business. Hotel has a lot of historical character which was really nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Had dinner in their restaurant and the food was very good. Room was ok.

We visit the restaurant every few months as we like the hotel and its atmosphere. A constant point of contention for us is the quality of the salads which seem to be mainly made from canned vegetables ( apart from the lettuce and tomatoes). A visit to the local Maredo Restaurant in Wuppertal where only fresh salad is available would exemplify what we mean. We have frequently made this point to the waiter or waitress but they obviously have little influence on the activities in the hotel kitchen. Recently, the staff seem to have been less well trained than in the past. Wine is frequently not poured out (even at less busy times) and it is a roulette game as to whether you get appetizers (bread + butter) with the wine. The loud music in the adjoining room used at busy times reminded us of a down market railway station restaurant. We are fans of BW and Hotel Eskeshof but we would like to see the previous standards being maintained so that it would get a 5 star rating !!????

The hotel is in a really quiet location in a residential area with a pretty view. The hotel has a quaint bar and nicely decorated. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Good things first: Beautiful place, pure German style building. Very friendly and helpful staff, and great buffet breakfast. Free parking. There is also a swimming pool. Bad things: The room was very little, and with almost no light. The bathroom ceiling was so low that taking a shower was impossible, even getting inside the tube required a big effort (see picture). Wi-fi internet connection very poor (but for free). But somehow I liked it...

Recently stayed for 1 night whilst travelling for business. Rooms basic and adequate. Free WiFi available. Hotel restaurant provided a very good evening evening meal at a reasonable price. Situated in the middle of a private housing estate,with no amenities within walking distance. Very quiet area.

Just everything you need when you are on the road. We did not had the time to explore all the hotel had to offer. But we liked the surrounding even better than the parts of the city that we visited. Helpful staff

Very nice hotel and lovely spacious room. Very helpful staff and restaurant tried their very best to understand our Australian accent. Great view over the country side. Would recommend this hotel for everyone.

Location in the Woods makes for great surroundings. peaceful shady terrasses in more levels provides small restaurant sections and calm. The staff is super professional and serviceminded. Had a late evening splash in the indoor pool to cool after an unusually hot day which was just the icing on the cake.

Nice hotel in a green area of Wuppertal, well relaxing, sauna and swimming. good breakfast, good matraze in bed. Possibilities of darting, bowling and kicker. Very close to wood for nice walks with friends or family.

Good place for walking and relaxing. Good view. Room is very average. not 4 stars hotel. Internet is very low. Breakfast is very various and tasty, but by 9 a.m. hot eggs and sausages finished. Bathroom is very simple.

Stayed in the hotel after ten years and yes I have to say nothing changed. It is located a bit outside the city center so if you want to go out you need to have a car or call a taxi. Nevertheless the hotels offers a restaurant, a small pool (did not see it again) and a sauna (also did not see it again). Comparing the hotel today and ten years a ago I have to say that nothing changed. Rooms are ten years older and the update of the rooms are only related to the TV and so on. Did not check if they have a wireless LAN. For the one night it was OK. Breakfast nothing to complain. Staff usually very friendly.

Have stayed at the Eskeshof a couple of times now as I was travelling to Wuppertal for business and will definitely go back for my next trip there as this is a very good hotel. Restaurant on site serving lunch and dinner, very friendly staff. As it is an older hotel, it has got more character than all those hotels chains. No complains at all!
