"Wow this place used to be nice, what a dump now"

Stayed at this hotel at the weekend and I had to say wow I was shocked I'm originally from the area and stayed here whilst visiting family , this hotel was fantastic years ago , but now it is a shadow of its former self The rooms are dirty and I mean dirty who ever sealed my room after a covid clean needs to also take a hoover and a duster with them putting a TV remote in sealed bag and leaving paper cups and sealing the door doesn't mean you have cleaned it, the furniture is tired and is in dire need of new ones. toilets don't flush, the shower didn't work, bath panel was broken thank god we had relatives nearby is all I can say Car park was full of potholes and was in dire need of being weeded and a good brush Maybe the company that owns it should update the pictures on the website to give a true reflection Would definitely not recommend in its present state

"Never again"

My partner and I stayed here after spending the day at knowsley Safari park. The hotel was bad, our room smelt of mold and was dirty. Cobwebs in the corners, mold in the corners. The lamp shades where dirty, and on my side of the bed the floor had bits on the floor. The bathroom was not nice the sink was coming away from the wall and rust in the bath. The bed was very hard and the mattress topper didn't fit the bed. This is the worst hotel we have stayed in, we left very early in the morning because we couldn't sleep the staff spent the night talking in reception and lots of banging going on. We woke at 4.50am with back pain and had had enough.

We stayed in one of the suites at this hotel and there were numerous problems from the moment we walked in. - the bedside lamp had no bulb in it at all. - one of the two lamps around the mirror did not work - the shower curtain was falling off in the bathroom - there is no air conditioning at all, and you cannot open the window - there was a running water noise almost constantly (probably sewage pipes) - we asked for extra cups for the room which the receptionist said she would run up, they never arrived - the bar served drinks with a low syrup level in the coke so it tasted disgusting and had to be sent back. For the price the hotel is acceptable, but otherwise I wouldn't stay here again.

Dear Guest, My Sincerest Apologies for the issues you encountered during your stay at The Hillcrest Hotel. As i am sure you are aware after an extensive period of closure and the age of our building upon re opening we have experienced some structural teething problems which whilst unavoidable i acknowledge are far from ideal for your stay. Whilst a missing bulb and a blown bulb are inconvenient i would like to think if this was brought to our attention we would of dealt with this promptly, i can only apologise if this was not the case. Whilst non of the guest accommodation at the Hillcrest benefit from Air Conditioning all the bedroom windows do open albeit with legally required safety mechanisms in place. I would finally like to thank you for your constructive review of The Hillcrest Hotel and look forward to you visiting us again.

"Disappointed "

I had booked as part of my work and had to cancel due to covid-19 I was not offered a postponement or credit to visit at a later date but charged in full. Shocking given the situation and circumstances. Other hotels are being incredibly helpful and offering even refunds. Clearly you can only measure a business in a crisis ! This is one off my list

"charged when I couldnt stay due to country lock down"

User 24/03/2020

sadly i had booked and unable to go due to the covid-19 virus. I was charged for the room which is unreasonable when they could have offered to simply postpone for me. I have every intention of going to the area for work reasons, and to be so unhelpful at this difficult time was quite shocking. I had to cancel other hotels which were simply magnificent in their attitude.. all others offered a credit for a delay.

"Fantastically priced hotel thats a little worn"

We felt hugely welcomed here. The price was unbelievably low for the level of room we had (a suite) however this may be due to the slightly worn nature of the amenities. Something the hotel was working on while we were there. Value for money was outstanding

Stayed here before and it has been brilliant. Great staff, great bar and always clean. Superb value for money... but this time me and my partner arrived to the usual warm welcome, had a couple of drinks in the bar and then went to get ready to go for our meal in Pesto down the road. My partner come out of the bathroom looking very stressed and saying she'd had to finish cleaning herself using the sink as the shower wasn't working. This hadn't happened before so I tried myself and the water literally drizzled out of the shower head. I was leaving very early for work and found myself using a towel as a flannel in the sink again before leaving. So yes, this time we were disappointed with our stay (room 52).

"Great Food"

Stayed here the last two nights and at last the new menu is with us. Not extensive but great flavours combinations at a reasonable price, everything else as normal, excellent. No need to go anywhere else now so will be back next month. Well done all.

We stayed for three nights in January 2020 having secured a good deal from reception. Have stayed here previously and cannot fault the excellent service. Rooms clean and well serviced, ours was a 4 poster bedroom. Staff brilliant, nothing is too much trouble, very friendly and obliging. Bar meals downstairs good except a few more chips would have been nice, presentation of meals good. We will continue to use hotel whenever we are down as we cannot fault it. Very good value for money spent.

Stayed with 8 of the family over Christmas. The bar staff were great. Was not told about the ten pound charge for breakfast until we were leaving. Shower was horribly cold, scorching hot and the rooms were.. Beautiful in some, some passable. Nearly a lovely place but it needs some love in all areas. We enjoyed 50% of our stay. Also, no laundry service!

"New chef, new start"

This is a great hotel to stay at. I've been staying here for a couple of years and have watched the hotel make improvements with the exception of the food which was ok but the menu never changed. Now there is a new chef and a new menu comming soon. I had a taster last night and it was excellent. As a foodie looking forward to my next visit!

"Brilliant staff and extremely helpful"

Stayed for 2 nights and found the staff excellent and accommodating. The rooms are large and warm with all the normal facilities but the bed was extremely comfortable and provided tired travelers a welcoming nights sleep. There is a large free car park on site which provides easy access and disability parking space.

"Staff wonderful, hotel clean, rooms comfortable, will be back"

User 03/11/2019

Stayed two nights, all the staff very friendly and helpful, I needed help to get to my room and a lovely member of staff was happy to help. Arrived back from a convention 9pm, food stops 8pm Sunday's, member of staff went into kitchen and made me a lovely sandwich bought to my room, so lovely of her to do that. Will deffo be back, enjoyed every minute.
