"Tranquility"

02/09/2018

The Venice crowds can wear you thin, so this hotel is especially recommended to those who appreciate a local feel and lots of tranquility. The area is great, too, almost like walking around in a De Chirico painting. Giardini is around the corner and the Lido just one boat stop away. Highly recommended. NB: The hotel itself was spotless.

We stayed in this hotel after a lot of research and don't regret it buffet is worth the money we really enjoyed it room was clean and house keeping was good we took a 7 day vapparato pass so coming and going was no problem away from the hustle and bustle but u need this after being in the hustle and bustle all day

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Best Western Sant Elena - and wow! What can I say ... I found this hotel on Tripadvisor and booked with easyJet holidays. It was absolutely fantastic! The location of the hotel is tucked away from the hussle and bustle but it was a very peaceful area and very pretty. A little dark during the night and only managed to find 1 nice restaurant nearby - a pizza place 2 min away from hotel. Gorgeous food, wine and reasonable compared to rest of Venice. The facilities in the hotel were excellent. If you have babies /young children they have a huge list of free equipment for you to use inc bottle warmers, changing mats etc! No charge for the safe in the room , tea and coffee facilities but WiFi pretty Poor. Breakfast is definitely worth the 9 Euros - plenty of choice in buffet style restaurant and attentive staff. We didn't see any other hotel that had the open green areas that we experienced. It was a little ‘haven' away from the rest of the island. Highly recommend for any age!! We will be returning!

"outstanding neighbourhood hotel"

27/08/2018

this Best Western is located in a quiet, neighbourhood part of Venice yet only moments from St Elena vaporetto stop and a twenty minute walk to the centre. The hotel is quiet, has a nice bar and restaurant and lovely gardens to relax in when the weather is good.

"Nice hotel, location avoids crowds"

This is a nice hotel, and we stayed in a larger suite that had an amazing patio deck. It was well air conditioned. Very nicely appointed. Just be aware this hotel is at the far end of Venice. You'll probably need transportation via water buses to get into the city for much of anything. A lot of vendors and water taxis take cash only so bring enough or get enough from the ATM when in town so you don't have to make an extra trip out to the ATM. On the flip side, there are no crowds and there is a quiet park nearby. Venice itself was hot and a bit crowded, so we enjoyed being away at the hotel. There are some local eats nearby but none that we found covered in our travel books, so finding food nearby to the hotel is a bit hit and miss. There are small local grocery vendors but no major supermarkets. The restaurant at the hotel was average. The room was lovely, so if you are ok with a vacation spot away from the city hustle and bustle, this may suit.

"Lovely and quiet"

An old monastery turned into a boutique hotel. Just one stop with the vaporetto from Lido and a half hour walk to Piazza San Marco. Big, quiet rooms, very nice staff. Breakfast is good, but the bread is, as often in Italy, very boring and it would be great if the orange juice was freshly squeezed. Otherwise highly recommended.

"Clean Hotel, wonderful Manager Frencheska, rest staff ok"

We booked a “Juniour Suit” at Best Western near Venice in St Elena. The booking was done through Expedia. On arrival we were surprised to be told by the reception person that we had paid only for 2 guests. Not good !! We told the reception person, that's not correct ! He took long to sort the issue out. Finally we got the “Suite” which was smallish for a “Suit” but was absolutely clean and functional. We informed the Manager whom we met at reception , an absolutely helpful and kind, commutes to her job and polite. She heard the issues out, helped us resolve things. I mentioned to her about the leaking shower head in the rather well refurbished hotel. FRANCHESKA politely apologised , helped resolved , arranged for a much bigger and better suit next day. She also arreanged for l Francesca ensured that the stay was good, she guided us about local tourist attractions. POSITIVES of this hotel : Location near Venice and Lido Modem Clean The new manager called : Francesca Areas of improvement : - Commibication with big booking agents. - check that the shower is not leaking .ans that shower system / screen needs improvement , water spills. - Breakfast is only continental which is not good, they can do with I may stay here again if I visit this island again. Cheers all, well done Frances for your hospitality. Thank you.. Thanks

"Good high class hotel but worn out bed"

We had a room at the garden level, which is very nice and green. Sadly it was simply too hot outside to chill in the garden. The room itself is small, but well equipt for a one night stay. Sadly the matress was worn out and some of the furniture needs replacement. We also had breakfast which was good for hotel standards. Breakfest in Italy always is a little better because of the local sweets.

"Perfect hotel"

27/07/2018

Stayed here for five nights as a solo traveller and this hotel was everything I was looking for. It is just outside of the heart of the city, in a beautiful green space. However, less than a minute from the vaporetto stop or only 10-15 minute from San Marco. The staff are so lovely and welcoming. The room was extremely spacious. Breakfast was excellent. The garden was a perfect space. Everything was so high quality. This is a really top-class hotel and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

"Quiet Location and Wonderful Staff"

27/07/2018

Beautiful hotel, a little off the beaten path, which we were surprisingly happy about given the busy tourist season. About 25 min walk along the waterfront to all the excitement. Nice pizza place around the corner (waaaay cheaper than downtown eating!) Rooms were clean and spacious (we were upgraded to a suite). Nice outdoor space and dining. Staff was very accommodating and helpful, even provided a cord adapter free of charge! Side Note: If traveling to Venice in the summer bring bug spray, mosquitos are out in full force!

Very nice hotel, with very kind and professional staff. Breakfast super, clean rooms, friendly atmosphere. Very good location. Bar service very nice. very near to water bus, very convenient to all Venice site view.

"Great location. Hotel let down by poor aircon"

24/07/2018

This could be a great hotel. Nice location away from the hustle and bustle but just a 30 min walk to piazza San Marco. But also just 20 min walk to a main road of bars and restaurants that are reasonably priced too. Sadly the aircon was so ooor the room was a minimum of 25 degrees. So warm and uncomfortable we could not sleep. Complained to the staff and depending on who you spoke to there was either an issue or there was nothing wrong. But management said it was fine and that's how it should be. Had to phone jet 2 but got know where though hotel then offered us a fan on the second night (we were only there 3 nights). When checking out hey finally admitted it was broke but no one would come out to fix over weekend.

"Honeymoon Stay"

20/07/2018

We just got married in the weekend & my Husband book a stay here, this is our first time in Venice. From the airport to Hotel: It's easy, just follow the signage going to the boat transportation going to Venice. We took a boat from San marci airport to Lido, it cost 15 euro for one way, we bought it from a ticket machine at the airport. Take a boat «Alilaguna» to Lido, about an hour journey. From Lido u will take another smaller boat to Sant Elena, u can buy a ticket from the ticket booth on the left side when u come out from Alilaguna boat, cost 7.50 euro per way. then take a smaller boat to Sant Elena, # 5.1 boat line is the fastest. has two more boat line but i recommend 5.1. just the first stop & its Sant Elena. (It is better to shop a 3 days ticket, its cheaper & u can use it anytime. cost 40 euro for 1 person) When u get off from boat line 5.1, theres a little kiosk who sells snacks & ice cream on the right, benches, tennis court & a walking space for the locls. just go through over the trees, u can see a little signage of the hotel to the right side, when u see a local coffe shop to the right siden there is a way in the middle of buildings just go through it & on the right is the entrance of the hotel. (a lot of insects on the trees who's making irritating sounds when u walk that gives u a creepy atmosphere, just ignore & walk further) the hotel staff are so helpful they will help u with ur luggage until to ur room. The elevator is a bit small so good thing the staff took care of it. Unfortunately My husband booked the last room so it is small space for us, we asked if we can changed a bigger room but unfortunately they dont have. the room is clean & comfortable bed but the aircon is a bit weak for us though its on its maximum level. From the hotel, going to San Marco Square (City proper) take the boat, same stop when we came, take the 5.1 line to San Marco about 10 mins. there u can find San Mark Church, a lot of restaurants, Gondola ride & of course signatured shops for shopping. ( Bought my self, Gucci & LV here.) Recommending the good restaurant just infron the san marco station, it has aircon so we sat & enjoyed the food inside. (Cola drinks is expensive though ??) The hotel has a sitting lounge outside the restaurant, wish they got a swimming pool too. The bar is open until 11 pm, (u will also have a welcome drinks) u have to check the menu list before u think to have a dinner at the hotel, they just have a few menus to choose from. Breakfast is very good & alot to choose from. We went to Rome for 2 nights, so we left our things at the room & they promise us to find a bigger room when we come. When we came back & spent the last night so we had a bigger room & a complimentary drinks, we had dinner served in our room too. it was a very good last night stay at the hotel. Location is a bit away from city proper, but its better for us. When we get back, we took the taxi boat from hotel to San Marco airport, cost 120 euro, & takes 30 mins max, took 26 mins for us, since i followed the time. We took the taxi boat since we have a very early flight & we dont wanna stress with waiting time when we take the normal boat to lido & lido to airport. its ok when u have a late føight in the afternoon.

We stayed at Saint Elena during our trip to Venice and it was one of the best hotels we had during our entire tour. The room was located off of the beautiful garden and the bed was soft. Good selection of food for breakfast as well.

17/07/2018

Stayed here for two nights. Excellent service and rooms. Rooms were slightly small but very comfortable and very clean. Staff were very welcoming and attended to all needs. Buffet breakfast was excellent with an extensive range to suit anyone's taste buds. The location is about 2.5 kilometres from the heart of the city. Quite area, but don't let this deter you it was good to get away from the hustle and bustle . Water services are available otherwise it's a lovely walk along the water front.

15/07/2018

WE sent two night here on a pre-cruise holiday. Read reviews before about been away from the crowds of tourist, that it was in a good way. Nice grounds, rooms and pleasant and helpful staff. Large park nearby with couple of restaurants and a small grocery store. There was a water taxi stop near by or about a 20 minute walk to San Marco Square along the boardwalk filled with restaurants, street merchants, wine bars and shops. Would stay there again

"Excellent!! Stay here!"

12/07/2018

This hotel was excellent from start to finish. The check in, the front desk staff, to the room everything. The front desk guy was very helpful on showing us how to get around, where to go and how to.use the public watertaxis which were excellent. Everything we asked for was given and our last day they gave us a late checkout and held our luggage while we explored the City until needing to head to the train. Also, this hotel down a quiet street away from the crowds of Venice but still close enough to access everywhere in Venice. Perfect and a great rate

"Wonderful Hotel On The A Quiet Side of the Island, Very Close To Vaporetto"

5
10/07/2018

Such a lovely hotel on a quiet side of Venice! Don't let it's location away from the center of San Marco Piazza or the Grand Canal dissuade you. It is easy to get to and less than a 5 minute walk from the Sant Elena vaporetto station. The staff is extremely helpful with recommendations for dinner and also how to navigate the vaporetto system and any questions. The room is spacious and has many amenities such as a robe, slippers and in room safe. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was the best we had in Italy! Soooo many choices and even prosecco to make a mimosa. Courtyard with comfy lounge chairs was perfect for finishing up morning coffee or waiting for family before heading out to tour the island. I would definitely stay here again!

03/07/2018

Me and my husband stayed here for three days and couldn't fault the hotel at all, from the moment we got there staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms are modern, clean and spacious. It is located in a nice quiet part of Venice with only a short walk to the central part and transport nearby. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

"Immaculate hotel in perfect location"

5
02/07/2018

Set in a quiet location but 2 minutes from the waterfront and water-bus service. We walked everywhere, and you can stroll along the waterfront and be at the Bridge of Sighs and St Mark's Square in 30 minutes. The hotel is in excellent condition. I've stayed in hotels of a similar standard for work, across the UK, and this beats them. Food is great and breakfast is outstanding with everything you could want on offer. A couple of really good pizza restaurant/cafes nearby if you fancy a change.

"Hidden gem"

28/06/2018

This hotel was recommended to us by another in Rome, as soon as we got to the hotel their staff wasted no time taking care of us. The location is just far enough away from the city to be comfortable and quiet with virtually no tourists however it's a quick walk to the main hub of the city or a water taxi away from anything. The room was beautiful overlooking the street, we left the window open all night as there was a wonderful cool breeze and the streets where quiet. I would recommend this hotel to anyone not looking for the busy touristy feeling that you will get in the main city. Service, food and professionalism here where world class! We will definitely be booking this hotel again and recommending it to all of our traveling friends and family!

"Great hotel in a quit area of Venice"

5
28/06/2018

We had an amazing stay at this hotel, and will recomend it to others! Top service and helpful staff. If you like to stay a little outside of the city center, this is perfect. 10 minute walk to a lots of bars and restaurants. Close to s.elena waterbus stop.

"Wonderful Stay!"

5
26/06/2018

We stayed here after a wedding cruise. Francesca and Gulianna are wonderful. The hotel is clean, comfortable, quiet about a 30 minute walk to St. Mark Square or a 5 minute walk to the water taxi. They were very accommodating including a pack and play with embroidered sheets and a little pillow. I would stay there again if I get the chance.

"Breath taking Venice hotel"

5
18/06/2018

We absolutely fell in love with this hotel and its location. It is a 5-8 minute water taxi ride to hotel from centre of Venice. The hotel area was so safe, magical and breathtaking we wish we could have stayed longer. We walked all in and around the streets at night and it was like a piece of heaven. The hotel staff was amazing and helpful! Breakfast was very good. The rooms were beautiful and like a 4 star hotel for Italy. We will be staying here again when we return with our kids

"Quiet & Peaceful "

5
18/06/2018

Wonderful place to find! A little further away from Piazza San Marco (30 min walk) but easy to use the water bus system. The area is quite and peaceful. Plenty of open space with trees and grass. (None of this on west side of island) It was so nice to get back to at the end of the day, away from all the crowds. Very nice rooms with comfortable beds. We had 2 rooms and had 3 in each room. Youngest is 17, and we did not feel cramped. Breakfast was very good, they have a nice restaurant but we did not eat dinner there. We went to a local bar/pizzeria around the corner. All locals eating there, very good.

"a haven of peace and tranquility"

16/06/2018

Stayed for 4nights mid June. This excellent hotel is just a 2 minute walk from the vaporetto stop, but a good 20 to 30 minute walk from the main square, during evening its absolute bliss a haven of peace and quite, set just behind a wooded park off the waterfront it seems a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the rooms are a generous size and very clean, good size bathroom, ours on the 3rd floor overlooked the gardens located in the middle of this triangular building, restaurant is nice, clean and light so you can see what your eating, plenty of choice for breakfast at the buffet, although we didn't dine during the evening, theres a great little bar called ginas just around the corner. All the hotel staff are very friendly and speak excellent English. A 15 minute walk along the coast path brings to a vast array of bars and restaurants, competively priced but much cheaper than the san marco sq area. Cannot the fault the hotel and if we where ever to return Venice then this would be our one and only choice of hotel.

"Fantastic Four Star Hotel"

05/06/2018

Spacious, neat and clean rooms with comfortable beds. A 20-30 minute walk to the main plaza.Quiet neighbourhood. Fresh fruits available at a nearby stall.Friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed our stay here. Modern Interiors.

01/06/2018

Nice updated hotel away from the noise but next to a vaporetto that takes you in 10 minutes to San Marcos. Clean, quiet and most definitely great price-quality. So glad I didn't pick the city center because it's crowded and too much. Perfect stay.

"Venice Biennale local"

27/05/2018

Stayed for 4 nights to attend Venice Biennale. Stylish spacious rooms in former covent around a cloister garden. Breakfast buffet was excellent and sundown drinks in the garden a great reviver after a day out. Staff very charming and helpful. Very convenient to Biennale but also well served by vaperetto routes. Definitely would stay again.

22/05/2018

Stayed two nights in this Best Western hotel. Accessed via water taxi, it is a short walk from the water to the hotel. Rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean, with ac , tv, kettle and all usual amenities. Strangely, although there is a minibar price list, the door to where I presume it is was locked. No an issue as I don't use minibars due to inflated prices. Buffet breakfast is excellent, but if you insist on a ‘traditional full English' you will be disappointed. Has a lovely garden area with sunloungers chairs and tables. Well recommended

"Great hotel, moderately priced and in quiet neighborhood"

5
21/05/2018

This is a very nice hotel. The building seems quite old but in a charming way. The rooms however are quite modern and comfortable. Service was friendly and the location is in a quiet neighborhood away from the crowds of Venice. However, the water taxi station is only a short 1 minute walk away. There are quick connections to the city center (around 10-15 minutes) and a quick connection to the bus terminal that takes you to the airport. The price is also very reasonable compared to other hotels in Venice. Would highly recommend.

"Fantastic"

5
20/05/2018

The best place to stay in Venice island. Very spacious and clean rooms with good service. Though the location is a bit far the water taxi pick up point is less than 100 meters away hence commuting from any point to the hotel is very easy and comfortable

"Quality Hotel in quieter area of Venice"

5
16/05/2018

Although on the south east tip of Venice City this is a good quality hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city centre attractions but only a few minutes away by vaporetti (water boats)... It is, in our opinion, easy to get to the hotel on arrival using vaporetti (water boats) from Piazzale Roma right next to the coach station and the current number 6 route only takes about 40 minutes. The hotel is two minutes walk from Sant'Elena stop and there are regular vaporetti to take you to all waterway areas of the city, lagoon and other islands. You can purchase timed tickets for the vaporetti making it a stress free experience (we purchased a 72 hour pass for 40 Euros each - well worth it! Hotel is modern (a former convent) and is the usual good standard of any Best Western hotel we have previously stayed at, mainly in USA. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Room we had was spacious and comfortable and well up to standard. .

"Wonderful Place!"

5
15/05/2018

Our stay at Hotel Sant'Elena was simply wonderful. The location, away from the crowds, but a short (20 minute) walk was perfect for us. The area is a neighbourhood, local restaurants and small bars, walk through a park to the bus or the "boardwalk" to bust areas. Hotel room, courtyard (where we had breakfast) were a big bonus. I would strongly recommend this hotel, we wouldn't stay any other place.

"I want to stay here again when i travel with my mum in September."

11/05/2018

Ground floor double room was ok, even though I thought the beds would be 2 separate ones for my friend and me. Shower was lovely and robes big and chunky. Breakfast was a wonderful choice of different eats ..cooked and fresh hot toast, fruit. There was even rice milk for cereal and muesle, cakes. Ate enough to keep us going through to lunch time. Staff were helpful and friendly too and my friend and i had a real laugh each time we came to the front desk. Really lovely place.

"Great place to stay"

06/05/2018

We booked this hotel with Jet2 and were so glad to find ourselves in such a peaceful and green part of Venice yet with easy access to all other areas from the nearby Vaparetto stop. We took the bus from the airport and then the no 6 vaparetto to the hotel. We were there within the hour. All the staff at the hotel are really welcoming, helpful and friendly. We had asked for a higher room and got just that on the third floor, a corner room with dual aspect over the canal and hotel garden. The room was spotless. Sheets and towels are changed on request as often as you like. The bed was large and very comfy. Air conditioning worked well. We paid 9 euros each for breakfast which was served until 11am. Everything you could want from cooked to cake! Fresh fruit, prosecco etc. We were surprised but delighted to find a bottle of Prosecco on ice in our room when we returned from a day out on my husband's birthday. A nice touch. You do need to travel if you want a range of restaurants but only a couple of stops on the vaparetto takes you to the Garibaldi plaza where there were plenty and a good supermarket too. We did go there one night but otherwise stayed local at the little pizzeria round the corner from the hotel which served great pizzas and wine at reasonable prices in a lively atmosphere. Always busy too with locals, so book! We didn't try the hotel restaurant because we like to go out but other people were using it. We really enjoyed our stay in Venice and would go back to this hotel without hesitation.

"Simply great"

We had a wonderful stay at the BWP Sant'Elena. It's about a 30 minute walk from the Piazza San Marco, located in a residential area, but that allows for a quiet stay (and the walking is rather welcome after all that gelato - we walked more than 40km during our stay). For a quicker trip there's a vaporetto station nearby, and a multi-day-pass is quickly amortized thanks to the rather expensive single tickets at €7.50 / 75 minutes use (I recommend to get the "AVM Venezia" app). Also there's a water taxi landing right around the corner, but these have to be ordered and are a bit costly. But I highly recommend the ride from or to the Airport, currently at €120, especially on a sunny day. Staff was among the friendliest and most helpful I have ever met, there are some really wonderful people at the front desk, very helpful guest service, maids keeping the rooms very clean and last not least a recommendable restaurant; the selection is limited, but of exquisite taste, the waiters and waitresses are absolutely top notch (please keep in mind that these are not american-style waiters having to compete for tips by filling your glass after every sip, but professionals who let you enjoy your meal with as little intrusion as possible while being ready to appear whenever desired). I usually don't eat breakfast, but as I read good things about the buffet I had to try it at least once and I was not disappointed: Scrambled or hard boiled eggs and sausages, cold cuts and cheese, bread and pastry, yogurt and cereals, fruit salad, fruit juice, prosecco and milk were all available. (And all that is very reasonably priced, just sayin') The room - we had one directly joining the garden - was a bit on the small size, but the bed was large enough for two sleeping very comfortably, everything very clean, the bathroom with a full size bathtub and bidet. AC worked very well (April 30 to May 5) and kept us cool after our long walks. The Garden is charming, there are chairs, armchairs and beach launchers that invite to sit or lie down a bit after returning - maybe a bit footsore - from one of your excursions. Also, there was complimentary tea at about 3 to 5 in the afternoon, which is very sweet, makes you really feel welcome.

Made our decision to stay here based solely on the fact that they advertise that they have air conditioning. When we got here they told us that they don't turn the A/C on till sometime in May! When we mentioned this to the front desk they still insisted that they have working A/C but only turn it on in mid May, then suggested that we maybe open a window.... So we did call around to find another hotel but with no luck. They told us that even if we did find another hotel that we would still have to pay a penalty fee. This place is a sauna! Even if you call them and ask if the a/c is working they will tell you yes, but on arrival they'll give you the real scoop. When we got to the room and looked through their little handbook it says that they have a fan upon request. So we called down to the front desk and ask if they can provide us a fan. They told us that they only have one and that it's already been given to another guest. Stay away from this dump! There are better places to stay in Venice!

Dear Danny S, thank you for the time you dedicated in sharing your feedback about your stay at Best Western Premier Hotel Sant'Elena. We are really sorry for your discomfort about the heating system, and we hope you can accept our sincere apologies. We would like to make you aware that it depends for the most part on the non-standard temperature of the period of your stay. This place is a [email protected]&king sauna! Even if you call them and ask if the a/c is working they will tell you yes, but on arrival they'll give you the real scoop. I was on a 2 week tour of Italy, and St. Elena was the last of 5 hotels where I stayed. It was my favorite! I liked the quiet location and the inviting courtyard. The room was nice and clean, the staff very helpful, everything was good.

Fantastic hotel. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Definitely go back to this one ???? It's a bit out of the way but still only a 25 minute walk to St Marks Square, or you can take the water bus. First visit to Venice but not our last. Loved everything about the island and the hotel.

One of best hotel in venice. Really enjoyed three days trip. Staffs were very friendly and they surprised us with a champagne on my birthday. All the amenities are great. Will definitely stay there for my next visit

A lovely, extremely comfortable hotel with a warm welcome from staff. All the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our visit. We paid extra for the buffet breakfast. It was worth it and offered plenty of choice. We also ate in the hotel restaurant the first night and the food was very good. The hotel is in a quiet location away from the busy tourist centre but within easy reach. A lovely 20 - 30 minute walk along the side of the lagoon will take you to St Marco with beautiful views along the way. If you prefer not to walk there are plenty of waterbuses and the stop is just a few minutes from the hotel. The hotel has a nice garden for relaxing in and there is a good choice of restaurants within easy walking distance.Fabulous hotel and location. If booking a hotel in Venice again we would choose this one and recommend this hotel.

Overall our stay in this hotel was great - Could not be faulted. The hotel is tucked out of the way in a quiet reseidential area of Venice, which at first we thought might be a problem, however this did not end up being the case, easily walking distance or commutable by the Vaporetto (Water Bus). To summarise; - Check-In was swift and warm welcoming. Staff were helpful when we needed help. - Rooms were adequatly sized, aswell as being modern and comfortable. - Transport links was adequate (2 Min walk to Water Bus Stop - S.Elana) - Breakfast was good and well priced (8/9 Euro, I cant remember which) - This was continental style, Meat/Cheese Selections as well as cooked foods, and cereals etc. Meanwhile just some helpful tips for people staying in Venice Generally. - To get to the Hotel, we found the cheapest option being to get the bus straight out of the Marco Polo Airport terminal, literally out of the doors and there was a row of bus-stops on our right. Express Service takes you direct to Piazzle Roma. Same bus can be taken from Treviso Airport I believe, I just dont know where you'd find the bus! From here you can take either the Number 6 or the Number 1 Direct to your hotel stop (S.Elana). #6 takes about 30 mins, whereas #1 takes you through the grand canal and takes about an hour. - Meanwhile if you're thinking about visiting the islands around Venice such as Lido, Burano or Murano - There's no need to pay any ridiculous tour guide fees, all are accessible by the Vaporetto. From your local stop (S.Elana), take the #1 to Lido (Takes less than 10 mins). From Lido take the #14 to Burano (Highly Recommend!), takes around an hour.) From Burano take the #12 to Murano (Takes 20-30mins). From Murano there is plenty of other Vaporettos but there were huge queue's at the stop we got off... theres more than one stop though (Just bare that in mind! rather than standing for ages).

Great hotel excellent reception staff that really took pride in insuring their guests were happy. Our Room were OK but a little on the small side. Although our friends room was very spacious. Well cleaned daily fresh towels if requested and top up of shower gell etc. The hotel is about 20-25 min walk from the centre st Marks, but the walk is lovely. You can stop half way at a plaza called Giuseppe Garibaldi, which is a lovely tree lined boulevard, with some lovey café's and great reasonably priced restaurants serving good food.

Stayed as part of a music group. Hotel is very close to a vaporetto stop S'Elena so easy to get into central Venice. For walking a 30 minute walk to St Mark's Square. Helpful friendly staff and good rooms with aircon. Only downside is that the breakfast room is on the small side so struggles a bit at busy times - needs more seating areas.

"Nice Hotel on Outskirts of Venice, Very Reasonable Price"

25/03/2018

Came here for 4 nights in March 2018. The Hotel was very clean, staff very courteous, and the room was lovely. Breakfast was buffet type with continental and warm bacon eggs. You could eat as much as you like, which we did so we didn't need any lunch. The hotel is loctaed on the eastern tip of Venice and is in a lovely quiet location. St Marks & the centre is a pleasant half hour walk away. We came through a special offer on the hotel website which was very very reasonable. Thoroughly recommended.

"Nice place to stay... Quiet place... Liked the place a lot!!"

This hotel is located at very nice quiet place... just few hundred meters away from the water bus station... best way to reach is to take Water bus which drops you at Sant Elena... The hotel staff is very helpful and courteous... we had requested for early check in... and they helped us with the same... Hotel ambience is very good... they also helped us to plan the route map based on the places we wanted to see... Rooms are very clean, large and spacious... we had enough space to keep the luggage... There were few toffees in the room with a note: the best way to explore Venice is not to follow the map... We should just walk and get lost in the beauty of Venice... Overall rating: 4/5

"Peaceful Stay in a Park-like area of Venice"

19/03/2018

This was our first trip to Venice and we were delighted with Hotel Sant'Elena. Everything was 5 star, from the warm reception we received from the staff after our long day of travel to the great breakfast we had waiting for us every morning. The rooms were larger than expected and very crisp and clean. The location is beautiful near a park with lots of trees, which is a nice break from the bustle of most of Venice and only a 3 minute walk from the vaporetto station with no bridges to drag your luggage across. Due to the airline rescheduling our departing flight we had to be on the boat to the airport at 4am to catch our flight home. The night manager helped us determine which boat to use and had a take-out breakfast waiting for us when we straggled through the lobby at 4! My husband and I definitely recommend Hotel Sant'Elena to anyone vacationing in Venice!!

From the moment we checked in and received a warm welcome from Francesca on reception, to the moment we left, we loved everything about our stay at the hotel. Comfortable room overlooking the courtyard garden, fabulous buffet breakfast (now we know Italians eat cake then!), 20 minute walk from the centre of Venice and a few minutes from a vaporetto stop. In fact, everything we could want. Francesca also recommended local restaiurants which proved to be ezcellent choices. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

This was our second stay at the hotel and would definitely recommend. The hotel is a 30 minute walk from St Marks square but a truly beautiful walk into the centre. You can also use vaporetto to get around from the St Elena stop. Service in the hotel was brilliant always greeted when you came in and out of the hotel. Room a good size with amenities that you need. Breakfast had a good choice of options to set you up for the day. We ate in the hotel twice and good meal and service. If I have the pleasure of coming to Venice in the future will definitely look to stay here again.

"ONCE AGAIN - 5 Stars for this 4 Star Hotel - our ELEVENTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR!"

5
06/03/2018

Once again – this Four Star hotel deserves Five Stars for value and service. Our ELEVENTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR at the Hotel Sant'Elena in July 2016 was even more enjoyable than our previous ten visits, and our annual trip was, again, a wonderful experience in this, one of the most beautiful of cities on Earth. We were very upset that we couldn't make it twelve consecutive years because I was hospitalised last year with pneumonia and unable to travel – we're making up for it, though by staying again later in 2018 for our annual battery supercharge! We're building another party to travel with us. As President of an association of former students of an English art school, I invited some of our members to join us for our 2016 trip – 22 of us flew out aboard “the Moseley Art Special” for our reunion of men and women who had attended our school as long ago as 1957. An additional couple flew out from Australia joined us. It goes without saying that we had the most fabulous time – people who have studied Art all their lives reuniting in one of the greatest repositories of fine art and Architecture in the world. My wife and I spend a couple of weeks every year at the Hotel Sant'Elena and had no hesitation in recommending it for our reunion stay and special dinner on the second day – absolutely wonderful service under the supervision of Sherban, the head waiter. The first class hotel team once again excelled in the quality of service. Personable staff, wonderful food, impeccable cleanliness, and a willingness to ensure that our every wish was catered for. We were especially impressed, once again, with the service personally provided by Francesco, the head waiter, and Sherban, the head waiter both of whom excel in their professionalism. These, and the other members of staff, especially Gabrielle, Giulia and Barbara are a real credit to the hotel. Our mornings began, as usual in bright sunshine with the warmest of welcomes from the staff and a wonderful display of food. A fantastic start to the day. We are seasoned travellers (I'm an artist / photographer) and we're quite demanding when it comes to service and value for money. We again upgraded to a roomy Junior Suite at very reasonable cost and enjoyed our stay even more. We've stayed in the De Luxe double bedrooms during our first four visits, which were perfectly fine, but our holiday dates now take in my wife's birthday so we're a touch more extravagant. We were able, again, to explore the exquisite surroundings, including easy railway trips to some of the other historic cities in the Veneto and surrounding area, including Verona, Treviso, Padua and Vicenza. FOOD: the variety of food is fine and lavishly plentiful. There is a very generous breakfast array of fresh fruit juices, milk, bread rolls, croissants, jams and other preserves, fresh fruit salad, cold meats, cheeses, cereals and yoghurts, cakes, sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, fresh fruit, tea and coffee. I'm always amazed at the quantity and range of food provided, right up to the end of service at 11am. Breakfast may be taken in the air-conditioned Dining Room, in the outdoor dining area, or al fresco at tables on the garden lawn in the quiet morning sunshine (or, if you're feeling lazy, in your bedroom for a small additional charge). LOCATION: Being in the only green (predominantly residential) area of the island, it's fresh, clean and very peaceful. The hotel has been created in a large former convent, and has a large enclosed lawned garden (re-landscaped in 2014) which is ideal for breakfasting, peaceful relaxation and sunbathing. The hotel is literally only 200 metres from the vaporetto (public waterbus) stop on the edge of the Venice lagoon – absolutely ideal when arriving and departing. During your stay, you'll see plenty of distressed travellers struggling to cope with lugging their heavy baggage around for an hour or two on foot, trying to find their hotel in the bewildering maze of small streets at the start and end of their holiday in the heat of the mid-day sun. For first-time visitors to Venice, it's a little disorientating getting your head around travel and connections. Travel agents refer to "Venice and the Veneto" - well, you'll find that the majority of hotels listed are not actually on the main island of Venice at all, but on the nearby mainland area of Mestre, which is modern, with an urban and industrial flavour. GETTING ABOUT: The main island of Venice is just that, an island surrounded by water. You'll arrive by air at either Marco Polo Airport, Treviso Airport (both on the mainland) or by road or rail via the causeway at the north end of the island. There are no roads, therefore no cars – so don't bother hiring one in advance! Transport is by foot or by water – even bicycles are prohibited. I wouldn't recommend Venice to anyone with mobility issues – each year we see the odd person in a wheelchair struggling to negotiate the bridges and other obstacles with sheer exhaustion and frustration. From Marco Polo Airport (our preferred airport), you can walk to the nearby vaporetto / water taxi stop in ten minutes, or get a cab. It's a slight extravagance, but we indulge ourselves by booking a water taxi (a covered motor launch with open back) at the airport which takes us speedily and in great style direct to the hotel in around 30 minutes at a cost of £90 (you can obviously share and halve the cost). You're allowed to share a water taxi and divide the cost – a great deal which makes the vaporetto (public waterbus) service very unattractive. For us, it's the only way to arrive. Water taxis can be ordered from the conspicuous desk at the airport arrivals lounge. The alternative is the vaporetto which is crowded, usually with standing room only. The vaporetto is cheaper but takes much longer – it will take you to the vaporetto stop at Sant Elena, from where the Hotel Sant'Elena is just a three minute stroll. The vaporetto runs every ten minutes from Sant Elena, and will take you to St. Mark's Square in just 10 minutes (*don't forget to buy your multi-day pass for the vaporetto at the airport on arrival - unlimited walk on / walk off trips.) A great way to end the day is to go to the vaporetto terminal at Piazalle Roma, re-board a fresh No. 1 vaporetto so that you can grab seats, and enjoy a leisurely 40-minute sightseeing trip along the whole length of the Grand Canal – have your camera ready!). Or, if you feel like stretching your legs, St. Mark's is only a 20 minute leisurely stroll away from the hotel along the lagoon edge, passing the Biennale Gardens and the Arsenale / Maritime Museum (both extremely worthwhile attractions) – a beautiful stroll at sunset. In the opposite direction, the vaporetto will take you from Sant'Elena to the Lido in just a single stop for a day lounging on the beach. ACCOMMODATION: The rooms are good-sized, very comfortable and are beautifully air conditioned. The beds, bed linen and towels are superb, and the cleanliness is impeccable - I was VERY surprised to read an earlier review that criticised the standard of cleanliness - the great care given to cleanliness is one of the things that always impresses us. The decor is modern, light, cool and airy. We've seen inside many of the other hotels on the island, the majority of which try to attract guests with reproduction Renaissance, Baroque or Rococo furniture and decoration - who would want to wake up to red flock wallpapered walls on a hot summer morning? It's a sign of a good employer that good staff are retained, and we were again looked after impeccably by the manager and the excellent team, most of whom have been with the hotel since we began visiting twelve years ago! We enjoyed dinner at the hotel more often than in previous years. The head waiter once again reminded us how wonderful it is to be served by a waiter who takes a huge pride in his work, his professionalism adding to the dining experience. The hotel has a slightly more limited menu than the 'tourist' restaurants, but if you are a fan of fillet steak, or branzino (sea bass) cooked to absolute perfection, as we are, you'll have a great experience. We avoided visiting one of our earlier favourite nearby local restaurants, Al Diporto da Mario Baffo, for a few years, but they have now regained their ability to delight with their fish dishes, especially the spaghetti alla vongole (spaghetti with clams in a garlic and wine sauce), branzino (whole sea bass) and frittura misto di pesce (battered mixed fried fish). We thoroughly enjoyed a few dinners there under the personal supervision of the highly personable owner, Mario. VALUE: The fact that we returned for our ELEVENTH consecutive year in 2016 with 22 friends says it all. The Hotel Sant'Elena is perfect for us, but do check out other 4 Star hotels for price and quality at Booking.Com or Hotels.Com, just to satisfy yourself. You'll find, though that the prices for equivalent 4 Star accommodation ON THE MAIN ISLAND can be as much as double what we pay at the Sant'Elena. We now book direct with the hotel via their own website for best price, and the helpful staff can discuss any queries you may have by phone. Whatever hotel you choose, do make sure that you ignore all claims about close proximity to San Marco / St. Mark's Square! Venice is heaving with visitors at most times of the year (get up and see the beautiful sunrise if you want the place to yourself for a while!), and whilst the Square, Basilica and Palace are of course essential destinations for visits, if you're anything like us, you'll definitely prefer a hotel away from the hustle, bustle, noise and crowds to relax after a tiring day in this magnificent jewel of a City. We believe that good service should be rewarded by recommendation. Great hotel, great location, consistently great service and excellent value. The mosquito we encountered in the garden at the hotel in 2007 is still the only bad thing we can say about this hotel. I've already answered a number of specific questions via TripAdvisor - I absolutely love Venice, so if I can help, you're welcome to drop me a line – glad to help.

This hotel is quite out of the way from the main attractions so if you're not willing to pay the price for a water taxi or walk I would consider other options. It took me 35 minutes to walk from here to the centre of Venice and it is a very pleasant walk! Great way to burn off that breakfast. The hotel itself was clean with large rooms and friendly staff.

The hotel was far away from the main attractions, but easily accessible via boat. The area was quite and calm. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious. There was a stinking smell in the bathroom, maybe it was not used for some time. Later, the smell was not there. The building was an old one. The receptionist was helpful. Overall a nice stay.

"Quietest place in Venice!"

18/02/2018

Sant Elena isle is perfect to be in Venice, though still relaxed and far away from all touristy places, It is a little far from San Marco, but with the boats you can perfectly be there in 15 mins. The boat services work perfectly, so location is not a problem at all. Actually, it is possible to walk to San Marco from the Hotel, which can take around 30 mins, passing through Biennale gardens and beautiful views. The hotel was perfect in everything, I highly recommend to have dinner in its restaurant as well!

"Excellent service and the most welcoming staff"

07/02/2018

On arrival at the hotel we were welcomed by a lady with short blonde hair (apologises I'm bad with names) she instantly made us feel welcome and was happy to share her local knowledge about where to eat (and where not to). The room was spotless and the staff met any request with a happy response and very quick action. We ate in the hotel several times and the food and service was excellent. The hotel is located in a very quiet part of the city and when we mentioned the area to a tour guide on Murano he said it was a very good, mainly residential area and one of the few green areas of the city. It was perfect for us being romantic and away from the busy city streets. There is a very good restaurant near by Osteria da Pampo which I can strongly recommend. I'm sure this hotel will be even nicer in warmer months when you can enjoy the loverly garden.

We loved our stay at the Hotel Sant Elena. The hotel staff were all very warm and welcoming and always eager to help us whether it be somewhere we wanted to go or to make a dinner reservation. The hotel was very clean and comfortable to stay in. The breakfast was very tasty every morning- we loved everything about it!

"Great location away from tourist noise-stream"

08/01/2018

The first impression always counts, and if this is followed up consistently it makes for a great hotel experience. Francesca and her colleagues went out of their way to help us, when we arrived and with any enquiry we had. Nothing seemed like too much trouble, and Francesca in particular was positive, smiling, and genuinely concerned that we have the best time at the hotel and in Venice. The hotel facilities were of a high standard, and it's located out of the tourist noise-stream (though Venice and islands are easily accessible through the water-bus system). It was the very high quality of service that was the real stand-out feature of our stay. It's definitely a hotel we will recommend to friends and colleagues.

I stayed here for 3 nights In early January with my partner to celebrate our 17 years together. The hotel is is a 2 minute walk through a lovely green space from the Sant'Elena river bus stop - away from the hustle and bustle of San Marco but still within (a pleasant) walking distance. We actually found it really nice to walk back from the centre to the hotel along Venice Beach. A nice way to stretch the legs and build up an an appetite. We were greeted warmly when we arrived by the helpful staff who were happy to offer us advice on places to eat and the best ways to get around. The rooms were very clean and nicely furnished and very comfortable. Overall a very good hotel that I would happily stay at again.

We decided to go last minute to venice to celebrate our anniversary, we spent some time reviewing some hotels and decided that st elena was the one for us and we were right, perfect location (lovely and quiet ) the hotel is lovely the room was clean and comfortable, bathrobes and slippers were provided as well as toiletries, bathroom was large and modern. The hotel staff were all extremely knowledgeable and very friendly, we paid to have the buffet breakfast which was €9 , and yes we could eat elsewhere cheaper but for convenience and quality you really couldn't beat it, there was plenty to choose from and very fresh. There are a few shops around so you can get snacks and drinks for your room and a pizza place round the corner (we saw some people bringing takeaway pizza into the hotel )we didn't get a chance to try them but it would be handy ( may try it next time ??) we had 2 evening meals at the restaurant, they were ok but a bit pricey (well you are paying hotel prices ) all in all we wouldn't hesitate to vist again and plan to do so

If you are looking to simply enjoy Venice, SantElena is perfect and at an affordable price. Service and Breakfast are irreproachable. It's location is just a bit out of the way, but I do not consider two or three stops in the Vaporetto to San Marco as an obstacle. Eventually you can walk, but given the season you may catch cold during this half hours' walk. The area is very calm.

We stayed here for 3 nights and couldn't find a fault with this hotel. From beginning to the end, each and every staff member were friendly and also very helpful when they helped us plan our route back to the airport in the very early hours of Monday morning. Our room was cleaned well and all necessary amenities were provided. The heating was good too! As it's quite cold right now, it was great coming back to a quiet and cosy room. It's a nice quiet location too - a scenic 25 min walk from the main San Marco square and there's a great ice-cream shop along the way. For dinner, we did mainly go the square as there's not much around the hotel but we had no problem burning off a few calories! We had dinner at the hotel one night and the service was lovely, quiet and intimate. The food and wine were delicious. Overall, we loved staying here and would be more than happy to stay here again.

We stayed here while visiting Venice. This is just off the St. Elena stop on the vaparetto. It is so quiet at night and far away from the tourists and crowds. The room was lovely and very clean. We didn't want to leave! Make sure you have dinner plans if you stay here, though. There's only one restaurant around the corner and it and the hotel restaurant requires reservations in advance. Most nights we went back into town to eat. The vaparetto pass was really worth it.

Space, tranquillity and professionalism. This hotel is clean. When was the last time you stayed in a clean hotel? My room and bathroom was spotless. Full marks to the very professional and hard-working house-keeping staff. This hotel is quiet. I slept through the night without being woken up by noisey guests, intrusive cleaners, drunk tourists outside the hotel, refuge collection, traffic, barking dogs, church bells, or late night entertainment venues. This hotel promises a quiet night. When was the last time you managed to sleep through the night in a hotel without being woken up? Bliss. Just a hint of luxury and a large measure of professionalism. We took an hour over breakfast and ate dinner in the hotel every night. This was not planned, but it was pleasant, so we kept doing it. The dinner menu was adequate and the food reasonably well priced for Venice, although the portions were a little bit on the small side, they were adequate for me. However, we were very well looked after both at breakfast and dinner by very hard-working, helpful and pleasant serving staff. (Thank you Sherban for looking after us so well at dinner) You need to know that this hotel is not in a touristy part of Venice. Something you will be very very grateful for once you see what has happened to the city under the burden of mass tourism. You'll need to walk for 30 minutes to reach St Marks or you can go two stops on the Vaparetto, if want to fork out on the rather pricey fares. Note to management please consider simple pricing structures which are offered to direct bookings online. We just want a price for a room with or without breakfast. Cut the nonsense with the deals and the expectation of getting something and finding out you've got nothing. Seem to have missed the market because the people staying in the hotel appeared to be quite intelligent, educated, and sophisticated. The crummy deals don't really cut it with the clientele. We don't need another aggravation when we're travelling it's stressful enough as it is.

We loved this place, away from the touristy sites, close to the wonderful biennale, close to the vaporetto station. Our room was really comfortable and the staff were so helpful, booking our restaurant tables and recommending good places within our budget to eat.

"Lovely hotel and staff!"

Nothing bad to say about the hotel, very tidy and comfortable bedrooms with nice decoration and AC! The staff were really helpful and one of them also speak spanish which was helpful for my family and I. We also had the breakfast buffet which included scrambled eggs, a choice of cold and hot meats and lots of other suplements. Would definitely recommended to anyone who wants to stay in a quiet enviroment apart from the touristic side, but close to get to the main attractions with the vaporettos.

"Nice hotel in the calm quarter of Santa Elena"

08/11/2017

We stayed two nights. It's not the first time we overnight there, so we have repeated. The hotel is situated away from the center. Just about 30 minutes walking from Piazza San Marco (8 minutes with vaporeto); 5 minutes walking from the Giardini Biennale. The best of its situation is that Santa Elena quarter is calm, an osais far away from the turist madness of the center. From the airport is a good option to get there with water-taxi, that leaves 2 minutes walking from the canal. People at front desk very professional. Breakfast was very correct althougt was too crowded from 8 to 10. We had to wait about 30 minutes to get a table. Meal is correct and it is possible to ask a real coffe or capuccino at the bar. In the negative aspects we must recognise that some parts of the hotel need to be renewed specially taking in consideration the hight prices of the room. Most of the time the Wi-fi didn't connect.

"A good choice"

Stayed here for 2 nights in late October. Our flight arrived at 6:30pm so we made the decision to splash out on a water taxi to get to the hotel. As Venice ‘virgins', this was a good choice. It cost €120 but was worth every penny and the journey only took about 35 minutes. Very exciting to be zipping along the canals in a beautiful wooden speedboat! We did use the water bus and bus option on our return journey once we had become familiar with how they operated. We had booked our stay through Secret Escapes which included a ‘superior' room on a bed and breakfast basis. Check in was straightforward and we were shown to our room which was a garden room on the ground floor. The room was well equipped with a good bathroom, nice toiletries, free safe, minibar (you pay for anything you use), tea and coffee tray, fast free WiFi, bathrobes and slippers and a large comfy bed. I have taken one star off this review due to the fact that the room was very small. My side of the bed was virtually up against the full length curtains. We both felt quite claustrophobic at times. We ate in the restaurant on both nights due to a schoolboy error on our part. We had planned to eat at Vecia Gina just round the corner on Wednesday night. Beware - it is closed on Wednesdays! Both meals that we ate in the hotel restaurant were excellent. We also had a voucher for a free glass of prosecco and a free bottle of wine with our dinner which was a nice bonus. Do ask Reception for a map if this is your first time in Venice - they were very helpful as was the lovely man in the kiosk next to the water bus stop. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Venice but I would ensure that my room was more spacious next time.

A fantastic, quiet, very comfortable, very nice hotel in Venice, an oasis of calm also the restaurant provides very good food compared to the rest of restaurants in Venice where the service is touristic almost mediocre.

Far away from tourists. Beautiful park between hotel and dock. 3 mins from dock to hotel. One stop to Lido island. Staff is helpful. We had SIM card problem with TIM the local tel company and the front desk staff assist to contact the customer service. Also, point the Tim store on the map in next day morning. The breakfast is really nice. Must try it.

My wife and I spent a very nice 3 nights ant this hotel. Breakfast was excellent and we had a lovely evening meal on our first evening. The rooms were very clean and quite large. All the staff were helpful and happy to give advice on other aspects of Venice. The hotel is situated about 25 mins walk from St. Mark's in a very quiet area of the city. However it is a lovely walk and the water taxi stop is about 300m from the hotel door.

Very comfortable room, the breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful. Spacious, well-equipped bathroom with two sinks. Just one vaporetto stop away from Lido, away from the tourist frenzy of San Marco and close to the Biennale action. Interesting mixed neighbourhood. The nearest vaporetto stop was just a couple of hundred metres away, with a flat path to roll your luggage along. Complimentary drinks and dinner discount vouchers for stays longer than 2 nights.

We stayed in this hotel 3 nights at the end of our trip. We couldn't have selected a better hotel to end our vacation. The hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood, surrounded with green areas but close enough to a vaporetto stop. We got a room in a corner, with plenty of light with one window facing the courtyard and the other a quiet canal. The staff was nice and polite. We had drinks compliment of the hotel. Breakfast was very good. We also dinned at the restaurant. There were good choices in the menu. Overall we were very satisfied with the service.

Great hotel at BW Sant Elena. On tour by Insight Vacations very memorable tour throughout Venice even though its 2 days. Hotel buffet breakfast was great. Worth to recommend to others. Very nice and quiet hotel. Away from the crowded areas of Venice. Easy to get to by boat. Nice walk to St. Mark's square. The hotel had a very nice breakfast and the restaurant had great food as well. All in all, had a wonderful time!!

"3rd time in Venice, 1st time at the Biennale. I would stay at this hotel again."

12/10/2017

The hotel is modern, quiet, and easy to get too, and has a very good breakfast. It's a short walk to the Giardini della Biennale; or a flat 2k walk to San Marco; or a quick vaporetto ride to anywhere else. The area is pleasant with a few local eateries, it's nice to sit in a local bar with pizza and beer watching the kids play football. We stayed in the garden rooms which are modern and well appointed, but they're a bit small and lack space to spread suitcases out. The restaurant is good and well-priced if you don't want to venture out, and I imagine in summer they use the garden.

"Quiet, roomy & clean"

Perfect hotel for a nice couple retreat. We actually enjoyed that the location wasn't downtown with all the noise & people. The neighborhood was quiet & quaint. Our room was perfect! We loved the bathrobes & slippers, roomy bedroom & modern bathroom.

"A perfect location for a hotel in Venice"

07/10/2017

As members of a sizeable art-loving group we were accommodated for eight nights at the Hotel Sant'Elena and were very satisfied with the service, room and food although we did not sample anything but the excellent breakfasts. It's the hotel's location, away from the crowds, which scores really well. Within five-minutes you're able to enjoy a bracing early-morning stroll along the 'sea' front together with the joggers and fishermen (even St Mark's Square isn't that far away) or you can jump on to a No 1 Vaporetto instead. There are also several nearby restaurants to dine at if eating out. Our only slight reservation is that it would be more congenial if the hotel had a bar separate from the dining room for even small groups to congregate without having to shuffle the furniture. That small improvement would earn the hotel a fifth star.

"Yes - this is the place"

06/10/2017

We stayed for 5 nights. All the prior reviews are correct- great location, nice clean rooms, great staff. Now how to get here fast and cheap from the airport - Grab the ATVO bus right out the airport doors for £8 to Piazzale Roma (don't fiddle with the ticket machines inside the airport, there is a very nice lady selling tickets right at the bus stop) 25 minutes later you are in Venice- too easy. Then walk 2 minutes to the Vaporetto (water buses) and buy a ticket from the machine £7.50 for a oneway ticket to Sant Elena. Also very easy. If you want to sightsee and kill more time, then take the #1 boat. But if you're like me, and you just want to get right to the hotel and dump your bags, then take the #6 boat. It only makes a few stops before Sant Elena and you are there in 25 minutes. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the port. One last thing- save yourself money and not so great dinners, by discovering the Taverna Scalinetto restaurant right away. It's between the hotel and St. Marks. After a big dinner here you will really enjoy the 20 minute walk back to the hotel. We wish we had found it sooner! We will book this hotel again when we bring the entire family. A great hotel, great location and very helpful staff made for a stress free vacation!

"Excellent location in a quiet part of Venice."

Venice is one of my favorite cities. I visit it minimum every other year. I have stayed six times at the Best Western Sant Elena hotel. The rooms are spacious and very clean with a contemporary look. The hotel is located in a quiet part of Castello. Breakfast is fabulous. The members of staff in the restaurant and bar are genuinely kind and provide excellent service. If you need a break of all the hustle and bustle of the restaurants in and around San Marco, dinner at the hotel is a good alternative with good value for money. The vaporetto ( waterbus) connections are very good. (If you take line 6 there are only two stops between Sant Elena and Piazzale Roma where you can take the bus to the Marco Polo airport) You are 1 stop away from the Giardini if you want to visit the Biennale and 1 stop from the Lido if you want to enjoy the beach. I can continue my raving review for a while. I just came back from a one week stay and am already looking forward to my next visit.

We returned yesterday from a weekend in Venice for my girlfriends birthday and we arrived here on the Friday, the hotel was really easy to find, we had been upgraded to a Junior suite as I had informed them it was her birthday, Wow, The room was beautiful. Modern, spacious and had a 5* feel to it. The reception staff were more than helpful and they even run a free taxi to Murano every day at 10am which on the day we went, we had all to ourselves! They gave us a token for a free drink at the bar on arrival. We did not eat there but the cafe round the corner is great for breakfast. This hotel is a 20 minuet walk from the center and believe me this is perfect, the centre was crazy busy during the day and its really nice to get away from it. I would recommend a stay here to anyone and will certainly return myself. Gratsie BW Sant Elena!

This hotel was chosen for our art group fir an eight day visit to Venice. What a good choice! It was originally a convent and, I think, a school in St. Elena at the Far East part of Venice opposite Lido. Nicely modern decor with well appointed public rooms. Good restaurant with varied menu and s very good buffet breakfast. Pretty garden with comfortable seating. Lovely spacious rooms with comfy beds and good bathrooms. Usual toiletries but better quality than some. Excellent welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable staff especially at the reception desk. Only a short walk from the vaporetto stop.

"Location, location, location"

03/10/2017

Fabulous location, lots of local restaurants nearby, or a 2-minutes walk from the vaporetto stop with quick access to St Mark's Square, or a 20-minutes walk from the centre of Venice, very close to the Giardini. Very comfortable hotel with well-appointed rooms that are kept spotlessly clean, friendly staff and excellent food at breakfast and dinner. Very highly recommended. I would use this hotel again.

"Great Venice hotel."

01/10/2017

While not in St. Marks Square, it is close by water taxi and only 15-20 minutes at a casual walk along the water front. Public water transport is a short walk and private water taxi is at the back of the hotel. The rooms are clean, modern and a nice size. Wifi is good as is the breakfast food. There is no pool or fitness facility but there is a lot of opportunity to walk around Venice.

25/09/2017

I had the chance to stay for two nights at this hotel . Firstly it's situated in one of the most prestigious and beautiful regions of Venice, Santa Elena, next to the Biennale gardens. My room, a junior suite, was exactly as it showed in the website's photo, spacious, super clean, and quiet, with all the comforts expected in a junior suite. Wide variety breakfast included in the price. Personnel was kind and professional. What is special about this hotel is its green sensitivity and practices (see also hotel's or tripadvisor site for details). Highly recommended hotel for medium - high range cost category in Venice.

Located near a neighbor hood park and away from the crowds and noise of the square. A great value in a charming hotel in Venice. Has a good in house restaurant and useable wifi. This is the second time we have chosen this hotel in Venice and would do it again.

Excellent hotel overall. Conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood so we could get away from crowds of tourists. The hotel has wonderful character as well as modern renovations. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely view from our window of the nearby canal. The staff was very attentive and helpful.

"Second visit to this hotel was a s good as the first"

16/09/2017

The staff are very friendly which makes a stay in this hotel really worth while. It was my second visit, the first with my husband, the second with my mother. The hotel suited both occasions. The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom clean. The breakfast buffet was fairly standard including, cereals, bread, fruit, ham, cheese, eggs bacon etc. Dinner in the restaurant was very pleasant and the staff here were very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is good as it is a very short and easy walk to the vaporetti (water-buses) stop with regular boats to the main tourist areas. It's away from the main tourist area which means that it is quiet and because of it's location you can also walk along the waterfront all the way from St Mark's Square in about 20-25minutes.

"Great hotel!"

12/09/2017

Located in a lovely, quiet residential area but an easy walk (or only a few vaparetto stops) to St Mark's Square along the waterfront with amazing views all the way. We would definitely stay here when we come back to Venice

08/09/2017

We went on a family trip and chose Sant'Elena as we wanted to visit the Biennale and also the main touristic sites but wanted to stay away from the crowds! We had a late arrival and as per the hotel suggestion, we hired a private water taxi that took us from the airport straight to the hotel, instead of taking the public waterbus line. It was more pricey but much more convenient. Upon our arrival at the hotel, the restaurant was about to close but they were able to accommodate our order! Food was very good! Breakfast was also great specially because we could sit outdoors in this beautiful patio looking to the well kept garden! Francesco and the other staff at the restaurant were super nice throughout our stay. We booked the Junior Suite Deluxe and it was spacious, comfortable and modern! We loved he location! The hotel is just 2 minutes away from the Sant'Elena pier and a 20min walk to St Marks square. Sant'Elena is a quite and charming residencial area, and the hotel is close to this beautiful park where the locals gather. It was a joy to stroll around the neighborhood after a busy day in the touristic parts of Venice. Shout out to Alessia at the reception who really helped us out before and during our stay! All in all, the perfect choice! We would definitely stay here again! Grazie Mille!

"Good choice"

28/08/2017

Have stayed at this hotel before on couple of occasions, but not for some years. The hotel remains an excellent choice if you prefer a quiet neighbourhood and are happy to be away from St Mark's Square. It is 25 to 30 minutes walk away although that unfortunately involves going over half a dozen bridges. Or you can get a water bus, of course. I had never visited the restaurant before but I dined there this time so this review will be mainly about the restaurant. The food is well presented and pretty good – I dined there for three nights in the end so I was obviously happy. I found the fish to be better than the meat, not surprising I suppose for Venice. The restaurant was not busy while I was there – I suppose its clientele would be mainly from the hotel. Service is professional but relaxed. On a couple of occasions, both waiters seemed to disappear, but I had nothing to complain about. One oddity is that when I asked for a glass of wine I was not given the house wine, or a list of available wines, but was asked what style of wine I preferred and then they brought it to me. It was always good! As far as I could tell, they used the same system for a table that wanted a bottle. It is a pleasant restaurant but the atmosphere would be better if some guests with rooms on the ground floor did not go into the restaurant and out through a side door to get to their rooms – at least I assumed that was what they were doing. Not cheap, but not much is in Venice, and I enjoyed my meals.

"Whirlwind trip to Venice"

27/08/2017

We stayed at the Premier Hotel Sant'Elena on a one day trip to Venice. The hotel is located away from the touristy area of San Marco. Therefore, it's perfect for people who want a quiet, relaxing place to stay. It's within walking distance to all the main tourist attractions, or even, better, by water taxi when your feet start to hurt. We opted for the breakfast package, which included a breakfast buffet for both the American or European style. Coffee and cappuccino were both available at no charge. We chose this hotel based on the reviews and amenities and location for the price. And beautifully updated. Venice is stunning. But when the five large cruise ships and smaller two river ships dock at the same time, plus the trains of visitors...It becomes crowded, and sometimes unbearably obnoxious. Premier Hotel Sant'Elena is an oasis away from the crowds. They have an excellent front desk staff who speak several languages. They had great recommendations for both quick lunch and local dinner. It is a half hour ride from the main train terminal via water taxi. Off the beaten path, but so worth it. Definitely a second time stay the next trip.

We reserved the junior suite deluxe for our family of 4. We took a late flight into Venice but the hotel was easy to reach by water taxi from the airport. We arrived at midnight to a gracious staff and perfectly air-conditioned room on a very hot night. The breakfast was lovely and the location is perfect, as we like to be away from the tour crowds but close to the Biennale.

20/08/2017

Stayed at this hotel for five nights with my partner. We were initially given a garden room which was very nice but asked for a move after the first night due to a noise in the room the source of which was not clear. The staff could not have been more helpful and we got another room within half an hour of asking for a move. Our replacement room was just a nice as the first but without any noise issues. We chose this hotel because it is situated in a quieter part of the island. There are some shops close by as well as a couple of bars. The Vaporetto stop is only a few minutes away but it does take a little while to walk to St Marks.

This is a great hotel a little away from the centre of Venice however easily accessible to all the action through a ferry or walk (approx 30 mins). Upon arrival we were checked in quite quickly and provided with all the necessary details for our stay. It was a pleasant surprise to find out we had an upgraded room which provided slightly more room than the traditional hotel rooms in Italy. The breakfast was somewhat accommodating for gluten free diets (packaged options) and had a wide variety of options for those without dietary restrictions.

This hotel is an island of tranquility on the edge of the gorgeous island of Venice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and it allowed us to escape the crowds, heat and narrow city streets of the centre of the island. The walk into the centre is very pleasant or water buses are reasonably priced (get a 24 hour unlimited use tourist ticket for 20 euro). The hotel is near a park, the waterfront and residential streets. Walking around here is a delightfully relaxing way to see a side of Venice many tourists will miss. Inside the hotel we found it very clean, friendly, efficient and pleasant. We would definitely return and hope to do so soon.

"Not helpful during Italy transportation strike"

We had 2 nights booked for a Friday and Saturday night in June. At the airport, we learned that our flight was cancelled and there were no flights going into Venice because of a travel strike. We immediately contacted the hotel regarding our prepaid reservation and was told there was nothing they could do, so we were out $575 for a room we never slept in. I would recommend booking somewhere that offers better customer service.

One of the best hotels I have stayed at during my 2 months of travel. It's modern, the restaurant food and staff is brilliant and it's very clean. Situated at the quieter end of the main island opposite a park with a vaporetto stop. (20min from San Marco with vaporreto and 30min walk). Rooms are very clean and comfortable. This is a quieter neighbourhood so even with a groundfloor room we had no problem with noise. Brilliant breakfast, the chocolate cake was a huge hit.

Stayed here the day before we left Venice for a cruise. Terrific hotel, clean, comfortable and quiet. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very far from the port so I would choose a hotel closer next time. Otherwise it's excellent if you want to get away from the crowds in Venice.

What a wonderful experience. The hotel was away from all of the hustle and bustle that is Venice in the summer. It was easily accessible by water bus though. Pretty good place. Wi-fi was fast, breakfast was good, room was clean, location not bad. Can't ask for more. A little far from center. Approximately a 30 minute walk. A bit too much with 40 degree heat.

Stayed here just a week ago through a great tour company. This hotel is situated in the perfect area. In the evening walk a few minutes to local restaurants. During the day pleasant walk through a park and along the water to San Marco. Staff is professional yet friendly.Lovely courtyard to sit and have breakfast if you wish to,or an evening drink. Our room was on the ground floor it was an attractive design and spotlessly clean but small with high windows. The room was cool and dark , slept well. It is modern hotel in a quiet tree lined residential area. It is close to the vaporetto stop and it is possible to walk to San Marco about 30mins. It has a pleasant garden , you can take breakfast outside if you wish. All the staff are very professional and friendly, the service is exceptional.

As much as I love the bustle and vibe of a city like Venice, my husband appreciates the knowledge that he can retreat to a quiet resting place. This hotel was just what our family needed. The staff were very accommodating to our family and were very nice to our kids. Gabriele went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. Hotel breakfast was good. Our basic room was a bit small, but we enjoyed spending time in the courtyard when we needed to spread out a little (and we spent most of our time in Venice anyway). Loved the access to San Marco via the vaparettos. Totally worth it to get a pass for the duration of our stay. Kids loved having a park nearby.

Clean, contemporary, quiet. Restaurant prices are comparable to high Venice prices and food quality is good. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Location ideal for anyone not wishing to be in the hub-bub of tourists around St. Marks/Doges/Basillica etc. Water bus stop 2 mins away 8 euro one way to city centre or 30 min walk. 2 x fab pizza places within 2 mins walk and benches along the waterfront to watch the sunset behind the city buildings.

Stayed at Sant'Elena for 3 nights. What a great hotel.. far enough away from the hustle and bustle of st marks but close enough to jump on a vaporetto and be anywhere in 10 mins. It was clean and very comfortable and the rooms are nice a big. The staff were great and the restaurant also catered for gluten and dairy intolerance which is hard to find in some European cities. Would definitely stay here again

Near the Biennale location at Giardini. Lovely to escape the crowds in the centro storico every evening, and then to approach the beautiful skyline afresh each morning in the vaporetto. This is a peaceful haven where you can really relax away from the crowds. Staff are lovely.

We stayed here 10 years ago on our honeymoon and returned for our 10th anniversary. Lovely hotel, great rooms and very friendly helpful staff. Garden is great for breakfast or just soaking up the sun on the comfy loungers. Only 3 stops on the boat from St Marks Square and 1 stop from the Lido which has a great beach. Thoroughly recommend this hotel and would definitely return.

"What a beautiful and spacious room"

10/07/2017

My first thought was we might be too far from St. Marcos square. I could not have been more wrong. The peacefulness at this hotel is great. Furthermore, the couple of restaurants that were out on Saint Elena were personal and delicious. As for the room, we had a view of a canal and (especially after Paris) more room than we knew what to do with. The desk staff were always extremely helpful.

We are on our honeymoon, already been in Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Rome, Florence and now Venice. The first day we arrived we were so tires so we order room service, we order two Lasagna with meat, I still haven't found the meat, it was only lots of pasta layers and sauce, not even with cheese!!!!! The meat was nowhere to be found!!!!!!!!! We ended up going out and paying another meal. The next day we left the not disturb sign, when we get to the room the cleaning lady has been inside the room, I called reception and they said it's hotel policy that they enter the room anyway if you leave the sign, hello I left the sign there for a reason!!!!!! Plus when we open the door we found that the air conditioner was leaking in two different areas of the room, one was on top of our luggage, so imagine how furious I was when I see my luggage wet!!!!!! At least they offer two complimentary drinks because they needed us out of the room while they fix the air conditioner. Not happy at all

03/07/2017

Could not fault Hotel Sant'Elena! The room décor was modern and spacious with large windows and a delightful view over the garden courtyard area below and out over the canals. The beds were super comfortable and the bathroom was large, especially in comparison to other European hotels. General cleanliness of the hotel and room was excellent. Enjoyed our complimentary Prosecco at the hotel restaurant, and loved the buffet breakfasts! Ate a couple of nights at the hotel restaurant and staff were friendly and the food was delicious. I must give particular thanks to the hotel staff at reception, who helped us to fill out a complicated postal document (all in Italian) to send a large box home to Australia. All staff at the hotel were friendly, polite, helpful and bilingual. As for the location, some may find it a bit far out from the tourist attractions of St Marks Square etc. but we appreciated the quiet serenity of the neighbourhood and enjoyed the stroll by the lagoon all the way in to the main tourist areas of Venice. Although if walking is not your thing, there's easy accessibility to water taxis. Upon my return to Venice, staying at this hotel again is a no-brainer!

"Great hotel in quiet location near park"

02/07/2017

This hotel was great. Clean, friendly and comfortable. Breakfast option was offered when we arrived and well worth it has something for everyone. Close enough on waterbus to city but far enough away to be able to relax in park close to hotel. It's a beautiful 30 minute walk along the canal to San Marco but on the way you pass The Bridge of Sighs and get a great feel for the City. If we did not stay here we feel as if we would have missed out on experiencing a beautiful quiet part of the city. The hotel was also only one stop from Lido so we even managed a short trip to the beach for a few hours relaxing during our stay.

"Great value quality hotel, excellent for Biennale"

Perfect location for Arsenale and Giardini. Excellent standard of service and rooms/decor for the price in comparison to other centrally located hotels. We were on the fourth floor and so had a loft style ceiling with beams, room 503, double aspect with views onto green courtyard area and canals. Less rooms on fourth floor so likely to be quieter than other floors. We were on foot the first day but after feeling very stiff the next day decided to make use of our 3 day public water bus passes which i can highly recommend.

08/06/2017

We just spent 5 nights at this hotel and were thrilled with our choice. We were shown to a lovely junior suite on the top floor. The room was great with plenty of space, effective air conditioning and some traditional character. We tended to jump on the water bus into centre (10 mins) and wander back along the grand canal, about a 25 mins walk which we really enjoyed watching the canal traffic coming and going. The staff were very helpful, we were provided with a map on arrival, assistance with the water taxi and a free trip to a glass factory on Murano (worth going). We had breakfast each morning in the lovely garden, one of the best parts of this hotel. Also enjoyed dinner one night in the restaurant. A special mention must go to Verbiano who was extremely helpful prior to our arrival with information.

Hotel staff is pathetic. Breakfast is ok not so great. Rooms also very average. First day had to manage with the noisy ac and second day after a long wait and fight the manager could manage to give us a better room with no noise from the ac. Staff service is just acceptable too much of attitude. Boss we paid for the stay it was not a free stay that the staff threw attitude on us.

"Quiet area"

02/06/2017

The hotel is not near the city center therefore you will need to walk for around 30 min to get there. It is situated near the park, full of greens and quiet. We were given suite on the rooftop which was with extremely tiny windows and was very hot in the room. Afterwards we changed to lower floor which was way better. Breakfast was alright but not wow. I loved the sitting area outdoor for breakfast though.

"First trip to venice"

5
26/05/2017

The hotel is really easy to get to from the airport on the boat with a quick change at Lido and a short walk through the park. (all in all about an hour) The staff were welcoming and explained the options for dining including a discounted breakfast option if we booked in advance. Not knowing Venice it's a option we took. The room was large, clean, quiet and comfortable. There was also a minibar available. There is a huge selection for the buffet breakfast and there are tables set up outside to enjoy the early morning sunshine. The location of the hotel is great for being a little outside the activity of Venice, but only 10-15 mins on the boat to San Marco. They also start early so no worries there. Worth getting a travel card if you are there for a few days. It's also only a 5 minute ride to Lido with a 10 -15 minute walk to the public beach for a complete change of scene.

"Perfect hotel just outside the city centre"

24/05/2017

My husband and I stayed at this hotel during our trip to Venice. It's located a 30 min walk away from the city centre or by water bus just 10 min. It's perfect if you want to get away from the main buzz at the end of the day. The hotel is close to the waterbus stop and can easily be reached to and from the city centre where transfer buses etc most likely will drop you off. It's also just one water bus stop away from another nearby island called Lido where you have access to the beach and more lovely restaurants and gelato :) The hotel itself is nice. On arrival the staff was very helpful and kind and let us check in even though we arrived before check in time. We also got a free complementary drinks. The room was spacious, clean and modern. I suffer dust allergy and can be sensitive but had no problem here. Our room had a great view overlooking the canal. Breakfast buffet can be bought for an extra €9 a day. It's worth it if you're a breakfast person as there isn't really any other nearby place to eat breakfast. The buffet was good but would have liked to see a bit more fruits. When the weather is nice you can sit outside Garden area and eat. Great! The hotels own restaurant which is in the same room as the breakfast buffet is also good. I had the gnocchi and it was lovely. If anything I would have liked to see a few more vegetarian dishes as there was really just about 3-4 options. Overall I think it's a great place to stay. It's nice to leave the busy areas after a long day walking around and it feels like you get a bit more of the "real" venetian people, their daily routines and life.

"Idylic surrounding"

22/05/2017

For the venice Biennial visitors; this hotel is just a small walking distance from Giardini and Arsenale but away from the touristic crowds. One can also walk to the vaporetto stop 2 minutes located right across from the hotel. St Elena is like a beautiful village with lots of green but also in the city. Hotel is an old monastery converted into a hotel. Rooms are spacious, well decorated. Very good breakfast. Extremely friendly staff. The hotel in general has an incredibly relaxing athmosphere.

We were relocated here after our initial choice was double booked. The Sant'Elena is a bit further out but has a vaporetto stop within a 3 minute walk and St Mark's Square is a 30 minute walk away. We had superior rooms, ours had a balcony with sun loungers although sadly the weather meant we didn't use them. Very helpful staff, a good choice of food for breakfast and a decent enough evening meal although we only ate there the night we arrived. Quiet at night and all round a good choice.

"Hotel Elena"

02/05/2017

The Elena has very accommodations. We had a nice sized room with a huge bathroom and nice tub. It was a busy place but nice and quiet. Very courteous and helpful staff. We enjoyed our four day visit very much. Breakfast was unbelievable; fresh fruit, eggs, and lots of pastries and bread. The breakfast was extra but for some reason it was included in with our package. Score! The Elena is located on the outskirts of the city but is a 15 minute vaperretto ride to St. Marks where all the action is. We stayed at a hotel near St. Marks with our tour group and I'd choose Hotel Elena over it anytime.

28/04/2017

I booked this hotel from the Best Western website. The first thing to say is this hotel does not have any Best Western logo outside. It is named Hotel Sant'Elena in the outside. It is in a quiet suburb of Sant'Elena and is very conveniently located. It is about 5 minutes walk from Sant'Elena Vaporetto (Water bus) stop. It is a 4-star hotel with all the expected amenities. We arrived in first week of April which was "winter" in Venice meaning the heating was on and the air-conditioning was off. However, the room was boiling even when the heating was switched off. In addition our television did not work. However, we did not spend too much time in our room (who does in Venice?!?). We were offered one complimentary drink at the hotel restaurant on arrival. We did not use the restaurant at all. The area has 2 small cafes which are pleasant. The area outside has children's play areas and plenty of benches among trees. Very nice if you want to sit with a drink.

03/04/2017

My Wife and I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for a couple of nights, during our recent tour of Italy. Good sized bedrooms, comfy bed, well appointed bathroom with accessories. Front desk were helpful with our enquiries. A very easy water commute to various hot spots of Venice. Located in a residential district, quiet, yet pleasant. Breakfast is plentiful, with various choices and options to suit all, bubbles are served at breakfast, if that's your thing!! We spent more time out of the hotel than in it, but who wouldn't when in Venice!! Would certainly revisit, it did not disappoint.

"Oasis of calm among the pines"

26/03/2017

We stayed at the Hotel Sant'Elena for 4 nights in March; our first trip to Venice. I was attracted by the fact that the hotel is not in the tourist centre of the city and among gardens - and was not disappointed. The hotel is a very short walk from the Sant' Elena stop on the vaporetto - last one before it heads across the lagoon to the Lido. The walk from there to St Mark's Square takes about 25 mins, assuming you are not too distracted by the lovely views. As you cross the Arsenale bridge it is very striking that you suddenly come upon throngs of tourists - in stark contrast to the calm of the odd local walking their dog in the park before the bridge. The area feels very safe and the sunsets across the lagoon are magnificent. The hotel is in a converted convent, though it doesn't feel very historic with modern, immaculate rooms. That said, there are 2 beautiful staircases, and from the garden you can see that the dining room was previously the chapel. We had a good-sized room (we had only booked a basic one) which was very comfortable and had a huge bed. No views but we weren't there a lot, and there were so many views everywhere else. We found the staff charming and helpful, both in reception and the restaurant. Breakfast was excellent - a wide variety of food - even including prosecco if we fancied a buck's fizz. Our trip, booked through Fleetway, included one night's dinner in the restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed and was of a good standard. Prices looked reasonable. Otherwise we ate a couple of times at the nearby Osteria da Pampo which we liked a lot (I will review separately). We looked out for the local pizza place others have mentioned but didn't spot it - probably because we always seemed to find our way to the Osteria. Transport is expensive in Venice (€7.50 for a single journey on the vaporetto - whatever length) and it is a pretty small city, but unless you are a keen walker it is probably worth investing in a travel card (€20 one day, €30 2 days, €40 3 days) for at least some of the time. It certainly helped when we were tired at the end of the day and couldn't face the walk back - it's also useful when you want to cross the river if you're not near one of the two bridges and we had a beautiful sunset trip up the Grand Canal on the No.1 which stops at every stop. We figured a couple of 3 day cards were better value than the €80 charge for half an hour on a gondola. It also allowed us to get out to other islands which were definitely worth a visit. It was a wonderful trip, most definitely enhanced by the lovely hotel. We really hope to return.

I stayed in this hotel with my partner, for a few nights, during carnival. The hotel was beautifully clean and fresh. The bed was so comfortable and the room had everything that you could want, so we both slept really well and had plenty of energy for exploring! A great hotel.

This hotel is on the tip of Venice in St Elena, the last stop on the vaperato. Or the first! The area is quiet and quaint with parks, gardens and little shops. The hotel is modern, fresh, delightful. The staff are amazing, they really took care of me. My room was off a courtyard, the room itself couldn't have been more lovely. Modern, clean and comfortable.

Excellent hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff at all levels. Excellent restaurant- plenty of choice for breakfast/dinner, beautifully presented, very polite waiters/waitresses. The reception staff were very welcoming and very helpful- felt confident in their ability and with the information they provided. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms clean, comfortable with regular clean linen. Tea/coffee making facilities which we find essential! The hotel was easy to find in a quiet location. Would definitely stay there again.

My first visit to Venice and decided to stay at the Hotel Sant'Elena. First of all some may be put off by the location and it is a good stroll from Saint Mark's square. For us, it was a pleasant stroll both in the morning and evening that allowed us to see the harbour of Venice and pass by some interesting spots - the Arsenale was one such place. Beyond that, the staff were excellent - especially the waiters. We dined there two evenings and very much enjoyed both occasions. Breakfast was as much as we wanted and the variety of options should appeal to most people. Room was spacious and very comfortable.. A great place to stay that we would highly recommend.

"Good location during the summer"

15/11/2016

This is a good location for visiting the Biennale or for retreating to in the summer after the heat and bustle of the San Marco area, as its quiet and blessed with a nearby tree lined avenue and only steps from the vaparetto stop. It's also close to the island's main gardens but there are very few bars and restaurants in the immediate area if you don't want to catch a vaparetto back into the centre, after a busy day's sight seeing. The hotel does have a restaurant but it's lacking in atmosphere, as is the bar. The breakfast, however, is very good with plenty of choice (particularly if you like cake!). My room was a good size but very dark, which I hate and the hotel refused to offer me anything else. My friend's room was fine. We got a good deal as it was out if season but I would prefer to stay elsewhere next time.

Dear Lynda, thank you for your kind feedback on your stay at Best Western Premier Hotel Sant'Elena. We are happy to know you enjoyed our location and our breakfast buffet. Concerning the room, we are sorry you were not satisfied with it, especially considering we upgraded you from an Executive to a Junior Suite. Unfortunately, during your stay the hotel was almost completely booked, so we had no chance to change the room with another of the same or of a higher type. Thank you for your choosing our home for your stay in Venice. Best regards, Verbiana Nardo Resident Manager

What an amazing Hotel in a lovely green area at Sant' Elena. It is very clean and modern and the staff are friendly and able to advise on travel, sightseeing etc. We stayed in the two floor suite 414 which was luxurious and spacious with a lovely patio area complete with shower. In the summer this must be a real treat. Wonderful comfy beds. Breakfast is plentiful with breads, pastries, cheeses, hams, eggs, fruit salad, juices, tea, coffee, even prosecco. All beautifully set out and inviting. The Hotel is very easy to get to from the Airport using the blu line Alilaguna from Marco Polo to Arsenals €15. Followed by a 20 minute walk by the canal. From the Hotel to St Marks square is only a 30 minute walk at most. The best of both worlds, near enough to enjoy during the day and early evening but leave the crowds behind and enjoy the quiet of Sant' Elena. A very enjoyable stay. Thank you. I hope to return in the future.

This was our belated honeymoon, and it was perfect. The manager left a welcome bottle of presecco and note of congratulations. "3 Night Venice Marathon Stay"

10/11/2016

A perfect hotel to explore Venice. Located a 30min beautiful walk away from St Marks Sq, but easily accessible by ferry bus (10mins), the hotel proved a perfect location for a my Venice marathon adventure. The staff and rooms were lovely, and the breakfast was very good - they even opened up early for the marathon runners staying. The only thing they need to work on is the bar area, it's not very relaxing. Otherwise I'd thoroughly recommend staying here.

This gem is on the end of the main island in the Sant 'Elena district, in a very quiet and quaint neighborhood, no cars at all! I only had time to walk 5-6 blocks in several directions and there were very few people out as many places are now vacant. The hotel was a nunnery and has been completely modernized and was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was included and unlimited, and delicious!

08/11/2016

After a busy day in the city of Venice we were glad to retreat to the quieter suburb of Sant Elena, which is spacious and green despite being only 10 minutes' walk from central Venice. And this hotel really is a retreat....our large room was quiet, clean, well-equipped and had a view of a canal and the sea (through windows which actually opened....hooray!). Breakfast was fantastic....as well as continental cheeses and meats there was bacon and eggs, a wide variety of breads, and yogurts, fruit....but best of all a fabulous array of fresh pastries! Every member of staff was friendly, helpful and happy to chat and offer advice about their city. I can't rate this hotel (and most importantly its staff) highly enough, and will certainly use it again.

It's not often that everything about a hotel works for you but that's how it was for me. The hotel is located in a quiet area which gives some welcome relief from the bustle of St Mark's square but it's only a 2 minute walk to the vaporetta stop or a pleasant 20 minute walk to the square past the Giardini Biennale and Arsenale. The room was very comfortable and equipped with tea/coffee/minibar. The restaurant provided a very good breakfast including asti spumante if you wanted it! The evening meal was even better. Staff were consistently helpful, welcoming and efficient. So perfect!!

"Excellent hotel in quiet residential area of venice"

07/11/2016

I stayed here with 7 friends and we found the hotel very good. Located out in a quiet residential area. It's a 1 minute walk to a lovely park with numerous kids play areas and views out to sea and lido. The rooms we had varied in size, all acceptable though and I was lucky enough to have a room with a good size balcony with 2 sun loungers ( shame it was November). Ate locally a couple of times, with good recommendations from the hotel. The only small improvement that could be made would be a better bar area away from diners. As we were part of a group we wanted to have a drink together at the end of the night but the bar is situated in the dining room so we felt we'd disturb diners and squeezed around a small table in reception. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again. Friendly helpful staff, good breakfast.

"Wonderful retreat in Venice"

02/11/2016

When the apartment we had rented online was suddenly unavailable the night before our cruise docked in Venice, we scrambled to find a hotel to accommodate our Group of 6 for the 3 nights we were staying in Venice. We were lucky! We got the last 3 rooms available at Hotel Sant'Elana....and they were large, modern, super clean and confortable. The Hotel staff was wonderful, and even spoke English, the breakfast buffet was the best we have ever had anywhere (except maybe in Ireland) and we felt so lucky to have found this wonderful hotel. In addition it was only a one block walk from the vaporetto stop. If we ever return to Venice, we would definitely stay here again.

"Amazing service, amenities and finishes"

30/10/2016

We toured all over Italy and this hotel was in the top 3 favorites. It had modern rooms, amenities, and great service. We were greeting by a complimentary drink for my boyfriend and I. The room was spacious and modern overlooking the patio. The breakfast buffet is a must. Really happy and would go back. The only challenge is that it's a 30 minute vaporetto ride from the Piazza Roma station and is a 35-40 minute walk to city center. It's worth if because you get to burn off all the calories from the gelato and is located in a residential quiet neighborhood.

"Fantastic Stay in Sant`Elena, Venice"

14/10/2016

Extremely pleasant stay in this lovely hotel formerly an old convent . You can clearly see this from the front side building architecture as well as looking at the porch and the courtyard inside. Parco delle Rimembranze is very close and quiet for a walk or a nice run . It`s named in this way in memory of the soldiers who died in WW II. This park it`s one of the most attractive green spaces in Venice The water bus stop ( Sant`Elena) is few steps from the hotel and the water taxi can also bring you to the key attractions or airport , although is quite expensive( 90-100 Eur) The Room was clean and with all the comforts. Safe , LCD TV, Kettle with tea/coffee available in the room; free wifi connection and iron board available on demand. The staff was friendly , helpful and very professional. A massive Thank you to Giulia, Francesco , Gabriele and Silvio at reception for their incredible patience trying to satisfy all our requests (e.g. directions, restaurant suggestions, fast laundry service etc.). Also Alessandro the bartender was very nice and friendly making every night our drinks. I would definitely recommend for quality , services and costs when aiming for a relaxing break in Venice.

"The perfect place to relax in Venice"

04/10/2016

We had just spent 3 weeks travelling through Italy and our last stop was the Hotel Sant'Elena in Venezia. What a marvelous choice we made! We were able to relax fully in the area which is residential and filled with parks yet we were only a couple of vaporetta stops away from San Marco square and down town Venice. It is also only a kilometre to walk to the tourist areas. The staff in all areas of the hotel including the front desk, restaurant and lounge were absolutely top notch. We were treated so well and everyone was so friendly we didn't want to leave! The food in the restaurant is excellent with something for everyone and the house wine was very good. We would highly recommend this hotel!

"Excellent hotel in a quiet place"

03/10/2016

We recently spent four nights at the Sant Elena Hotel. After a long flight from Canada we were welcomed to the hotel and had a nice breakfast as our room was not ready. We wandered the neighbourhood, which is at the green end of the Castello neighbourhood. The hotel is in a recently renovated building and has a very nice exterior courtyard with lots of green space and sitting areas. We had a deluxe room on the fourth floor and although it was not as big as North american rooms it was well equipped and very comfortable. Our only complaint about the room was that there was only one chair for sitting, not two, which meant one person had to always sit on the bed. Small issues but it would have been a nice touch. The room was spotless and well equipped, including the bathroom. The facilities and nice touches in the hotel included a self service afternoon tea that one could enjoy outside in the garden on nice days, lots of complimentary newspapers and free WiFi throughout the hotel. The breakfast was fantastic, with lots of variety and a nice sunny room which also served as the bar and dining room in the evening. We had two dinners at the hotel and we were so impressed after the first dinner that we decided to go back again. The dining room is excellent with a nice menu and an fantastic chef and kitchen. The food that comes out of the kitchen is sublime and well worth the visit. Lots of very nice surprises in preparation and presentation. Classic Italian with a contemporary touch. Throughout the hotel that staff were fantastic, from the front desk to the dining room. Obviously well trained and happy in their positions. The Hotel is in a nice green area within reach of the major tourist areas of Venice. There is a nice park just beside the hotel and the Sant Elena vaporetto stop is only a short walk away which can get you everywhere. San Marco square is only twenty minutes walk, the Lido only five minutes away and Calle Garibaldi with lots of bars and restaurants a short walk. This hotel is a nice hidden gem in the mass of hotels and rentals in Venice, with excellent staff and facilities, it is well worth the chance to stay amongst the locals of the city and enjoy the area.

We stayed at the best western sant elena in Venice for 3 days and loved every minute, The room was great and had a big roof terrace also the staff were very helpful. The hotel is a 25-30 minute walk to San Marco or better still buy a river bus ticket so you can hop on and off at will. This hotel was ideal for us as it's in such a peaceful location after the madness of st marks square. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

01/10/2016

My partner and I stayed here for my 40th birthday. The location was perfect. Slightly out of the centre of Venice but a nice 5-10 minute walk away. There is a waterbus stop near the hotel. From Roma waterbus stop where we initially arrived into from Treviso airport, you would need to get the waterbus to the hotel, this was quite a pleasant trip! Boats are quite full and busy so if you are going for a few days pack light! Rooms as what you would expect for this star hotel, clean, modern, comfortable bed, tea and coffee and mini bar which wasn't over priced. The first night in the early hours we were disturbed by what I think was a domestic which went on for a while. We chose this hotel so not to get this kind of thing. My only negative comment would be regarding breakfast. On arrival we were told the price of breakfast should we want it, but this price was only if we had breakfast for the full duration of the stay otherwise it would have been higher. We did have breakfast once and it was adequate. This may have been more down to our own personal taste. The cooked breakfast had little to offer. Although if you like fizzy wine and lots of dessert in the morning this was available! We drank in the bar in the evening after we had been into Venice, which was really nice and the staff extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We had an amazing stay at the hotel and in Venice and would recommend.

This beautiful hotel is on the outskirts of Venice in a peaceful residential area away from the hectic-ness of the city. The water taxis are extremely frequent so we didn't mind being out of the city center at all. (About 20 mins or so from St Marks) Gabrielle (unsure of exact spelling sorry) was the most amazing help for us. He was so efficient, patient and professional. We had a few issues (nothing to do with the hotel what so ever) that he went above and beyond to help us fix. Am truly grateful of his assistance! The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The hotel is immaculate and efficient. We went on a free taxi tour to A near by island arranged by hotel. The computer and printer was very convenient. The breakfast was incredible! Highly recommend !!!!!! Thank you :)

"Absolutely wonderful hotel and neighborhood"

12/09/2016

A beautiful hotel, restaurant and neighborhood to enjoy Venice. The hotel is in a very quiet residential neighborhood in east Venice. The area has a lovely and significant Catholic Church, several small restaurants and bars, a local bakery and a large park. It is accessible by public water boat transportation. It is possible to walk from the hotel to St. Mark"s, although it would be a 45 minute walk. The hotel has large, comfortable rooms that are beautifully appointed. Free WiFi, very large bathrooms, cotton robes and slippers and TV, The hotel has a nice dining room and restaurant, offers free buffet breakfast and complementary afternoon tea. You can eat in the dining room or sit outside in the lovely courtyard, where there are many tables and lounge seating. it is absolutely quiet and peaceful and you hardly know you are in the busy city of Venice.

We stayed at Best Western during our stay in Venice. We took a water bus from the train station (about 30 mins) and then walked for 2-3 minutes to reach the hotel. Yes, it is far from the centre but it gave us the opportunity to walk everywhere and really explore Venice. The rooms are large and very modern. The breakfast buffet had a lot of variety and you have the option to eat outside in the garden. The staff is very courteous and helpful. Highly recommended!

"A hidden gem of a hotel"

5
04/09/2016

Nestled in the quieter back streets of Sant Elena in Eastern Castello, the Best Western is a hidden gem of a hotel. A pleasant 20 minutes' walk along the waterfront from the tourist bustle of Central Venice, it represents an ideal base from which to explore the city, but also to hide yourself away when the heat and noise all get too much. The hotel itself is modern and spotlessly clean, something also reflected in the rooms which, while not hugely spacious, provide enough room to relax and enjoy the lovely outlook onto a grassed central garden equipped with tables and loungers. While our room on the third floor was more than enough for our needs, there are some larger apartment-type rooms which sit on the ground floor around the garden. Another major selling point is the proximity of the hotel to the Sant Elena waterbus terminal – a walk of less then a few minutes through pleasant parkland – the last stop before the Lido (itself less than a ten minute ride away). As a result you can avoid the extortionate prices of hotels on that island yet be closer than most to its bars, shops and amenities. Breakfast is a relaxed buffet affair, served in a room which opens out onto the courtyard – we took our meals outside on both mornings of our stay and (marauding pigeons aside) it was a lovely way to start the day. All of this was complimented by staff who were hugely friendly and helpful such that our three day stay seemed to fly by. We will definitely be going back.

Following a wonderful week long cruise on Cunard 's Queen Victoria we wondered if our holiday could get any better. Our cruise had taken us from Rome to Corfu, Montenegro and Trieste, finishing up in Venice. The Hotel Sant Elena proved to be just right! It was the perfect venue in a beautiful, quiet spot which was a contrast, with its greenery, to the busy streets of Venice. It was within easy reach of the Vaporetto which took us daily to a variety of terrific places, such as San Marco Square, the Island of Burano and the Lido which was just one stop away in the other direction. The rooms were clean and spacious and the staff were very courteous and helpful. There was a warm, friendly atmosphere in the hotel and the staff were delightful. Took shared water taxi from Airport to Sant Elena water stop. Easy few minute walk to hotel from dock with very friendly and efficient staff to welcome you. Arrived before check in time but room was ready. Had a nice 3rd floor King bed room overlooking the lovely courtyard. Was given complimentary drink tickets also. The room was nicely furnished in a contemporary design with a comfortable bed and nice, but somewhat small bathroom. The housekeeping was great and everything was very clean. The breakfast buffet was very large with a nice variety of selections. You could eat inside in the nice dining room or outside in the courtyard. The hotel was in a quiet neighborhood about a 20-25 minute nice walk along the waterfront to the San Marco area. Numerous good restaurants within a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The front desk arranged for a private water taxi to the ship on our last morning there which picked us up on a canal right along side the hotel. They had a big cart which they carried our luggage to the water taxi for us. Highly recommend.

Nice hotel away from the crowds. From the outside, hotel looks unassuming but once inside it has modern facilities and very friendly staff. Our room was really nice and breakfast was good value. Hotel is a reasonable walk from the main areas, but we found this worked well to see hidden parts of Venice and between meals.

"Nice modern hotel"

First time in Venice. Hotel is located a bit away from the main areas but within walking distance, which is great as there are not too many tourists. Facilities were great and up to date and service was top notch. Room was comfortable and breakfast good value.

My mum and I stayed at this hotel for four nights from 30/7/16. The staff were lovely, very helpful. Great location- quiet and peaceful area but close to the centre. The water boat stop was very nearby- we got a 3 day pass and this was great value for money. The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice. Room was clean and comfortable. The hotel has a nice, quiet garden area. Would definitely recommend this hotel. We'd like to return.

Had a great hotel for a first trip to Venice. The location seems a little out of the way when you first get here, but once you get your bearings it is a smashing location. 15 minutes walk to St Marks; 2 minutes walk to the Vaparetto stop; 10 minutes ride from the Lido. Comfortable and clean rooms. Decent bar, Restaurant is fine for breakfast and Dinner. There are umpteen places to eat if you want to explore in town, and a few nice local trattoria that we were very happy to find nearer to the hotel. Everyone asks does Venice smell? Yes, but it smells nicely of wonderful food, wine and coffee. It smells of the sea, and I did not find anything off putting. Will stay here again on our next visit.

"Great hotel, beautiful location!"

We arrived at Marco Polo airport and got a bus onto Venice island. From there we decided to take the vaporetto Line 1 (takes an hour) down the Grand Canal to the stop by the hotel. If you have time I strongly recommend doing this - it's a wonderful introduction to Venice. We arrived at sunset and it was perfect. Quicker vaporetto lines are available. From the Sant'Elena stop the hotel is a short walk and is signposted and easy to find. The hotel itself is lovely and offers a free welcome drink to guests. Staff are friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast is basic but very nice (especially the cakes!), and you can dine outside if you want to. There are sunbeds outside in the garden if you want to relax and soak up the sun. I really liked our room. It was very spacious, not much of a view but we didn't mind that. The hotel is located close to a park. The bathrooms were huge and well equipped with complimentary toiletries. The beds were comfortable. We slept well but there was a bit of noise - the corridor acoustics weren't great. It was cleaned every day and to a good standard. Slippers and robes were provided. The walk into St Mark's Square took a good 20minutes and it is a lovely walk, well worth doing. We walked every day and didn't find it a problem - it was nice to be out of the crowded city centre. It sometimes got a little tiring on the way back after walking around all day. If you plan on using the vaporetto (which is regular and reliable) then purchasing a 24 hour pass (or longer) is better value for money than buying single trips (this is a good tip if you want to go island hopping for the day). We also visited Verona and Lake Garda for a day - easy to do by train.

"Everythin g was wonderful, from location to service to presentation."

Spent 3 nights with the family at this wonderful hotel. We were eleven, aged 5 to 65. A pleasant walk to the center of town, we were very comfortable in a quiet neighborhood with parks and local eateries and steps from the water bus.. Very clean and accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants great and peaceful.

everything is good. The location is far away from city center but near the water bus station. In addition, is there no exhaust fan or similar fan in the bath room? After a shower, I can not bear the high temperature. Unfortunately, there is no room upgrade depending on the situation of fully-booked. The restaurant of the hotel is excellent. I do recommend.

We booked 3 nights at Best Western and was not disappointed. The hotel was situated in a quiet place at the end of Venice st Elena which a lovely place, quiet and away from all the hussle and bustle. It was easy reach with a water taxi which was easy enough to work out and get around, we bought a 3 day ticket for €40 which is well worth it cause we went everywhere on it. The hotel room was spacious and modern and very clean and so was the hotel, we had B&B and that was very nice too with prosecco every morning for breakfast :-) can't complain about that! We had a meal one evening and that was delicious, small portion but very tasty and nice. Staff were very friendly too and couldn't be anymore helpful if needed. Would definitely stay there again. Would highly recommended to you if going to venice :-)

Went to Venice in July and didn't want to be in the center of the town as it is so crowded. Decided to try out this hotel. A 20 minute walk to the center along the water. Was worth it. Neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. Hotel was excellent. We were there when there was a heat spell and the A/C was excellent. Was speaking to someone who stayed in a well know hotel that complained to me that their A/C was terrible and they were playing over 500 euros a night! Bed is comfortable and breakfast was very good.

Our stay at the hotel was surprisingly positive, thinking the low prices comparing with other hotels in Venice. Of course staying here, you will need a 30 mins walk to reach the centre, but the hotel itself is a small gem. Spacious rooms, clean, nicely decorated, comfortable beds with great air conditioning, water and a beautiful view. The breakfast was really nice and the staff always polite and available for our inquiries.

We stayed here for three nights. The room was spacious and very well equipped. The weather was hot but our room was cool. There was a garden which was pleasant apart from the mosquitoes! Nearby were trees and a wooded area for more shade. The restaurant provided delicious breakfasts and had a good menu for evening meals. When it was closed there were some local restaurants which were good value.

Clean, comfortable, well appointed hotel in a quiet location away from all the crowds. Only 2 minute walk from Sant'Elena waterbus stop so good access to the rest of Venice's attractions, it was a relief to be able to get away from the multitudes packing the centre. The hotels' restaurant was excellent, and their breakfast was substantial, with wide choice.

"PREGO! For A Different Experience "

25/07/2016

This hotel is located at the far end of Venice - so if you are looking for somewhere accessible this is not the hotel to stay, however if you want a hotel that is quiet and enjoy a total different experience than yes this is a must stay hotel 1) for their amazing greenery 2) you get to have have a nice walk before reaching the hotel 3) rooms are spacious *junior suite 4) breakfast by the garden As the location is not really ideal for travelers who wants to enjoy the heartbeat of Venice but overall experience is not too bad with this hotel Thing to note 1) water taxi from train terminal cost 90€ 2) room service for each meal is addition 10€ 3) no supermarket around the vicinity, *stock up before arriving, hotel do not provide drinking water 4) walking distance from hotel to area of attraction approximately 40mins by foot 5) water bus is approximately 10mins walk for the nearest station 6) guaranteed a nice serene view of Venice rather than overpopulated/crowded tourist spot

Arrived by plane and took vaparetto to Lido and switched lines to get to St Elena stop. Head diagonally thru the park to get close to hotel. Flat 5-10 min walk with rolling luggage. Hotel kindly checked us in early so we could head out for the day. The vaparetto stop here because it's near end of the line is a good stop to start at to get a seat. There is also a newspaper stand that sells tickets there but only regular hours, so be sure you have a ticket ahead of time for early or late trips. Otherwise walk to st marks is flat and maybe 25 minutes. Our room was small but modern. Good a/c and spacious bathroom. Breakfast was filling and had dinner in restaurant twice, surprised at good quality of the dinners. No printer for Internet guest desk but hotel clerk offered to let me send her the reservation ticket for printout. Only saw one nearby place to eat that was pizza sort of bar with outside tables as well. Park there for kids and dog walkers. I can see a stadium nearby as well as a gated military base. Next time I might stay here again, have to think about its location. However it set the bar for comparison for future trips so I do recommend it.

24/07/2016

I travelled to Venice for 5 nights with my husband and another couple. A must for us was outside space to relax when back from sight seeing all day in a bustling tourist area. The Sant Elena was just what we were after. A lovely garden with loungers and table and chairs, it was lovely to have a pre dinner drink before our walk along the lagoon to find a restaurant for the evening. Staff were friendly and helpful, bed was comfy and breakfast was satisfactory. There was enough to keep you going all day if necessary. It was so nice to walk away from the crowds and relax in the peace and quiet that the hotel offered.

22/07/2016

We highly recommend the Sant' Elena! It was an easy walk from the Vapareta stop through a nice park. The room was large and looked out onto the courtyard. The breakfast was great with many unique Italian pastries. The hotel is not in the bustle of St. Mark's but you can be there in 10 minutes and you can also be at the beach in Lido in 10 minutes. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was helpful whenever we had a question.

"Charming hotel tucked away from the hustle and bustle yet within good walking distance of water bus and restaurants"

22/07/2016

The hotel was lovely and we had a deluxe double with excellent air con and nice little touches with bathrobes and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was lovely and there was an outside seating area where we enjoyed the Buck's Fizz. The water bus was under 5 mins away and was very easy to understand or you can walk into San Marco Piazza which takes about 30 minutes. In the evening we went to the local restaurants and bars in Vue de garibaldi which was a ten minute walk while admiring the sunset and large cruise liners and super yachts. A fantastic place to stay and well lit and very clean. The water buses are very easy to understand and can get crowded but we always sat down. Our shared water taxi via Venice link was superb and dropped off us off at our point and picked up with no issues and was fantastic way of seeing Venice. Perfecto :) prego :)

"Great hotel if you are okay with being outside the heart of Venice"

21/07/2016

I just finished a 2 day summer stay. I traveled requiring 3 bedrooms and had 4 stops in Italy. The rooms here more by far the largest and the beds were the most comfortable. The hotel included a great breakfast and even offered a large garden to eat or relax in. Service was excellent and the staff was very helpful throughout our stay. I offer only one warning. It's pretty far from the touring parts of Venice. It's a 30 minute walk to St Marco and everything else is further from there. One option to avoid the walk is using the water bus. If you are looking to be off the beaten path - this will be an excellent choice. I liken it to staying in Brooklyn or jersey city when visiting New York.

"Great Hotel Not Far From the Madding Crowd"

20/07/2016

My wife and I stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group. It was our favorite of the four hotels we stayed in (others were in Lake Como, Florence and Rome). Rooms given to our tour companions varied a bit, but ours was spacious and artfully decorated...can't remember if it were a Deluxe King Room or Junior Suite. An added bonus was that the dining room served very good food, and was a fine alternative to finding a good restaurant amidst the mediocre tourist ones throughout Venice. Breakfast (included in our stay) was also very good. As others have mentioned, it's just a 20 minute walk to St. Mark's, and has the great advantage of being in a quiet neighborhood --- my wife and I loved having a quiet refuge to which we could retreat when we'd had enough of the summer crowds.

Yes I'm visiting Venice too, but getting away from all the other tourists was a must. This hotel is a little distance away, but can easily be accessed by the water bus. We were also one stop always from Lido which gave us an opportunity to have a relaxing day at the beach. We've been in Italy for the last 12 days and this by far has been the largest room. Clean, contemporary and just what we needed in Venice.

My two sons and I stayed in the Best Western Sant' Elena Hotel three nights in July. Everything was to our liking! The hotel is situated in a quiet and green residential area of Venice, but is well connected by boat to the St Marco square and other points of interest. In particular, it is only one stop away from the Lido island where we stayed on the beach to take some rest from sightseeing. The hotel rooms are modern and clean, the staff are friendly also to the children, the breakfast is excellent and can be taken in the garden to the sound of cicadas. All in all, a perfect choice.

This was actually one of my favorite hotels on our Globus Best of Italy trip. Yes, they lost power one night ,but still ,the staff , food , room was very nice. The power went out one night after a hot sticky day of traveling about Venice and they brought us cold bottles water from the bar. People used their phone lights a bit, but could not recharge the phones till the power went on about 2-3 hours later. The hotel is walking distance about 20 - 30 minutes from St. Marks square. It is in a nice quite area with a few restaurants very close .The hotel has a nice courtyard. Our room and double sinks,Clean , firm mattress, modern decor. We had great salads, cheese plate and a huge breakfast in their restaurant .

"Close enough, yet far enough away"

13/07/2016

My husband and I spent four nights in the lovely BW Sant Elena. My husband makes all our travel arrangements, and we were both very pleased with this gem of a hotel. It's a short boat ride from St Marks, Lido and other spots. In visiting St. Marks one day, we knew we didn't want to stay so close to the bustling, overcrowded plaza. We were thankful for our quiet oasis away from the noise, the crowds and the higher prices. The room and bathroom were both quite spacious; the room had a lovely view of the hotel's courtyard, as well as the quaint residences around the hotel. Breakfast was included each morning, and the buffet was bounteous and varied. Everything was fresh and tasty. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The hotel also offers a free private boat to the island of Murano, where the famous blown glass is produced. The return trip is up to you, but it was nice to have a boat ride that was just us; it was a nice amenity. The only drawbacks were 1) that I had to keep logging back onto the Internet on both my phone and iPad, and the Internet was sketchy at times; 2) the room was too warm the first night, even with the A/C set on the lowest setting; and 3) the bathtub was (European) typically skinny. Overall, a wonderful hotel find in a beautiful city.

"Great boutique hotel far from the maddening crowds."

11/07/2016

We found this to be an ideal location away from the noisy, crowded calles of Venice. It is a lovely walk through charming areas, or just a few stops away by vaporetto, from the heart of Venice. It's in a residential area surrounded by trees and parkland. The temperature drops as soon as you get off the boat, and the only sound you hear are the Cicadas in the many trees. The room we had was larger than usual for Italy. It was modern and well equipped. The breakfast had plenty of options, and the cappuccinos were great. We were treated royally by Gabriele at the front desk. The others we saw working the desk throughout the week were much less friendly, and never offered a hello or goodbye. They could learn a lot from their cohort Gabriele. There are quite a few local restaurants to eat at in the surrounding neighbourhood that are of good quality and very reasonable. There are great gelato shops too. When we return to Venice we will definite stay here at Hotel St. Elena, or possibly on Lido, where the beach town vibe is a nice place to stroll in the hot evenings of summer.

"Peaceful and poised for everything"

08/07/2016

Stayed for four nights in late June in desperate need of a relaxing break. This was perfect. St Elena is shady, quiet, and truly peaceful, yet a gorgeous 20 min lagoon-side stroll has you at the St Marco Square and a short water bus ride takes you to the Lido. We had wonderful beach days interspersed with city visits, and always coming back to the peace of the hotel in between. We had a room opening into the garden which I think is the best option of all. The rooms were very clean and well appointed, but a bit gloomy. The upside of the gloom of course was cool, and with 30 degree temperatures outside I was happy to take that compromise! The staff in the hotel were wonderful, incredibly friendly, excellent language skills, and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening but the menu looked great, we did take advantage of the breakfasts though which were tasty and comprehensive, a nice mix of hot and cold savoury, and good continental too. We had an amazing few days and it was due in no small part to the easy comfort, amazing location, and wonderful staff of this unique hotel. I doubt I'll ever stay anywhere else in Venice!

Our family of five including myself, my husband and three boys ages 16, 14, and 11 really enjoyed staying at the Best Western Premier St. Elena. My husband and I appreciated clean and modern rooms and bathrooms. Unlike older European hotels this hotel has good water pressure and air conditioning. At first the boys were disappointed we weren't near all the action, but then we discovered the water bus got us to get to San Marco Square in 10 minutes. Also we discovered the park behind the hotel was a fun place to hang out!! Our boys enjoyed playing pick up soccer and basketball.

"Sad to leave"

07/07/2016

The other reviews are true the rooms are small. However, they are clean, well maintained, modern, and comfortable. The staff is what made our stay perfect. From the moment we arrived we were treated wonderfully by everyone. The breakfast is lovely with anything you would want for breakfast. Plus the espresso and cappuccino is delicious. The location is great because it is quiet and yet in a few minutes you are at the boat dock. Do yourself a favor and get out of the crowd areas of Venice and stay here.

The hotel was lovely modern and very clean! The room was cleaned everyday. The outside back garden area was a lovely peaceful place to sit and have a drink. All the staff were lovely, helpful and polite. The hotel was about a 15 min walk or get the bus boat from s'alena which was very handy! Pleasure to stay in this hotel would highly recommend and would 100% stay here again.

The room was well appointed, as was the bathroom. The breakfast was excellent, as was the food and service in the restaurant for dinner. The location was excellent; quiet neighborhood, yet within a 15-20 minute pleasant walk to St. Mark's Square. My wife and I recommend this to anyone looking for a good value in Venice.

"Nice hotel at the edge of Venice"

Loved the location, away from the hustle of the city, yet walking (20 mins) or boat ride distance away from St. Mark's square. Rooms are good sized, have all the right amenities. We had a corner room which was larger and spacious. Highly recommend it. Gabriele was fantastic to work with.

Quiet clean good food superb value. Away from hustle and bustle of Venice's main tourist spots but only a very slow 45min stroll to St Marks Sq.Explore the back streets and experience the local hospitality. If you are polite and courteous the same will be back to you. Definately go back

"Beautiful place to stay"

This Hotel was formerly a convent and has been converted into a very comfortable place to stay. It is situated on an island but it is possible to walk into downtown Venice (30 minutes). Otherwise access is by boat. Spacious room with large bathroom. Excellent meals in the dining room.

When we arrived, the front desk informed us that the room we booked might not work because of a broken air conditioning unit. They showed us another room, which was slightly smaller, but about 125 Euros cheaper per night. I was traveling with my wife and 2 kids, but this room was large enough for the 4 of us. The hotel is quite nice, but the neighborhood lacks any charm at all. It is further from the action than most people would like. It takes at least 40 minutes to walk to St. Marks Square. There is a water taxi stop very close to the hotel and that is what we used most of the time. The price was 30 Euros per person for 48 hours of use. This is an absolute must if you stay at this property. The staff were very professional, the breakfast was good, and the rooms were clean. We did not eat at the restaurant except for breakfast. Although I give the hotel a good review, I would not stay here again because it is just too far from the center of town. We ended up eating at some excellent restaurants in the Rialto area and that is definitely where I would stay should I go to Venice again.

Dear Mr David, it was a pleasure for us having you and your family at BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Sant'Elena. We would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay. We apologize for the problem with the air conditioning unit. Unfortunately, it was not possible to fix it in a short time, so we had to assign you another room. Concerning the location of our hotel, it is true it is not in the city center but, exactly for this reason, the most of our guests choose us. Hotel Sant'Elena is away from the hustle and bustle of the main touristic attractions but at only 2 kilometers from them. The neighborhood is immersed in a beautiful green area away from the crowd of the downtown but near the Biennale. Furthermore, it is at only 10 minutes ride by waterbus from Venice Lido, the glamorous land of the Film Festival, the Art Nouveau and of the long walks on the golden sand. We are honored you chose our hotel for your stay in Venice and we hope to see you soon to serve once more your lodging needs. Kind regards, Paola D'Errigo Customer Care Supervisor

This hotel was located in a restored convent. Rooms were small but very efficient. Very clean. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was included and was wonderful. The grounds are very attractive. It is located near a water taxi stop.

"Overpriced for tiny room"

Let's start with the positives - the location is really nice, as many people have said, outside of the main tourist areas of Venice but only a half hour walk so still easily accessible - the staff at the hotel were asp friendly and accommodating and the breakfast really good. What wasn't so good though was the size of the room - it was far smaller than advertised online and, for those familiar with uk hotel chains, far smaller than either a premier inn or travel lodge! I wouldn't mind this if that's what we'd chosen but for the money we paid expected much better - very disappointed!

CustomerCareIT, Responsabile relazioni pubbliche at BEST WESTERN Premier Hotel Sant' Elena, responded to this review
Dear Guest from Peterborough, thank you for leaving a feedback on your stay at BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Sant'Elena. Your opinion is important to us. We are happy to know you enjoyed our location and that you appreciated the helpfulness of our staff. The Sant'Elena team does always his best to satisfy the needs of our guests. We are sorry for your disappointment about the room. The distinctive of our hotel is it was an ancient convent. For this reason, its rooms are very characteristic and unique. Their size is variable, smaller or bigger, according to the choice at the time of the booking, clearly also the price is different. Thank you for choosing our home. Booked this through Travelzoo, the hotel is a little way out of Venice centre however I can only say that I am impressed with the hotel's service throughly, the bedroom was superb on the top floor, clean and spotlessly clean bathroom that at times I felt at home, dining room with breakfast is excellent and most impressive is the food and the waiters are so professional in their job even with a courtesy welcoming that has enhanced the quality of the service it does shows they can offer better quality foods than overpriced restaurants in city centre.I would definitely go back there for the peace and quiet in that area. But, a little hiccup that spoiled the ambience of the meal was one particular night when there was a bunch of film makers and technicians came marching through the dining room with loads of filming equipments.

We stayed here for 3 nights and from the moment we arrived the service was amazing. Our bags were taken up for us and we were checked in swiftly and with a smile. On entering our room our satisfaction continued, it was bright, modern and well appointed. For ease, we ate in the restaurant on the first night. The waiters couldn't do enough for us. My fiancé has a number of food allergies which often seem like a problem when dining in England but they provided excellent information and alternatives for dairy and gluten. The prices were reasonable too for the standard of food and presentation - really nice. We also had a few drinks in here on an evening and it was a really pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice either of or cold, savory or sweet and again, very accommodating staff. There's also the option to sit/eat in the garden, a truly beautiful space. We took advantage of the free water taxi to Murano that leaves each morning at 10:00 am. It was great. We found the location fantastic, it's very quiet with a 'local' rather than tourist feel. The vaporetto stop is less than a 2 minute walk and the service is frequent. That said we found the walk into Venice beautiful and never an issue, 30 minutes stroll to San Marco and 10-15 to some really nice cafes/bars on Via Garibaldi. Truly a beautiful hotel. If I had one tiny criticism it relates to the flies in reception - a fly trap would be a very easy fix!

"A beautiful setting in a garden, next to the water"

02/06/2016

We stayed in this hotel in May. It is a bit out of the way which may be a good thing if you are tired of the crowds on St Marks square. It is easily accessible by a boat bus from the center but from the airport you will need to change the boat or walk a bit. The setting is great with breakfast served in a beautiful inner garden. The hotel is near the water, I guess like everything else in Venice. You can go for a run in the park nearby. We ordered room service with Italian ham and mozzarella that were well presented. The stuff was very helpful. The rooms were clean, A nice place overall.

"Very good hotel & location."

Stayed here for three nights on our first trip to Venice. The hitel is located a few minutes walk away from the water taxi transfer stop from the airport and it was a lovely boat ride to get there. Wanted a room where our daughter was not on a 'put you up' bed as although only 12 she is very tall. We were given one of just 3 rooms on the top (fourth) floor. The room was spacious and well appointed with lots of natural light and comfortable beds. Although the third bed was a sofa it was full size and very comfortable. The hotel is 4 stops on the vaporetto from St Marks Square so while it is far enough away to be very peaceful it is close enough to enjoy everything that Venice has to offer. It is also just one stop in the other direction to the beautiful Lido which its miles of sandy beaches. Free wi-fi is available. Breakfast is buffet style with a good selection of everything you would expect; cereals, cold meats & cheeses, breads, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurts & pastries so definitely something for everyone. I felt they could have been a little quicker filling up but we did go at a busy time. We also ate one night in the Restaurant which was also very good. Highly recommend this hotel and hope to return.

This is a lovely quiet neighbourhood well away from the tourist areas and very relaxing. It's not a memorable place - no views or particularly staggering rooms. The hotel is perfectly nice but the manager seemed uninterested in being helpful. We tried several times to explain that our shower was not working but he seemed to have better things to do. It's a pity because otherwise it might be a good alternative to the usual fare in Venice.

My family of 3 stayed here for 2 nights in the end of April, 2016. The room was clean and comfortable! Customer service was second to none! The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodated every request no matter how small or insignificant. We loved the location on the quiet end of Venice. Beautiful walk to St. Mark's Square and water bus stop is close by next to a park. Water taxi drop off is very close and convenient. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty! Great start to the day! We are Dinner at the hotel as it was convenient after a day of travel and was very nice too. We had beautiful weather for our stay. We would definitely stay here again!!

Once you learn to navigate the water taxi system in Venice, this becomes an excellent hotel property. Off the beaten path but highly accessible, this is a quiet, convenient alternative to the frenzy of center Venice. Great value.

"My adventure in Venice!"

23/05/2016

This hotel is a converted nunnery. It is situated within walking distance of St Mark's Square. Everything you read to recommend this hotel and its staff, is all true. A breakfast so filling is served, you could safely skip lunch; and return to a restaurant where the kitchen practices Haute Cuisine Italienne, as well as those with a Venitian touch. It's well worth ordering a bottle of wine: if only to witness the dexterity with which the waiter gets the wine from to bottle to your glass... And the wine, if suggested, will be perfect for the dish you've ordered. We all know we get what we pay for. So I judge an hotel by how they can help you in an emergency: like when something goes wrong. Now for a little backstory: I arrived on the island late in the evening in a shared motor-taxi; tired and hungry. I was helped off the boat, and handed the last case on board. The case looked a little like mine; but wasn't. The young driver raced his engine at high speed, turned swiftly, and disappeared: just as I was about to cry out! My Venitian adventure had started. On arrival at the hotel Reception, I was shown to my room and given a suggestion that I might like to eat. (See above for that experience). Overnight, the young lady on Reception contacted the motor-taxi company who were able to name the hotel where my case had arrived in error. Reception worked with Reception. This was harder than it sounds, because the French gentleman who had my case, apparently wanted proof that the case was mine and refused to speak to anyone unless they spoke French. My case, as hand luggage, only had an airline tag. His, had a label with his name, address, and telephone number. In the UK travellers are advised not to put home details on a label: in case the burglars call when you're away. Reception duly marked, on a map, everywhere I needed to see and visit. This contributed enormously to my enjoyment of this amazing city. When I left to catch my plane, Reception assigned a porter to take my case to the water-taxi's jetty. The taxi was late; put the porter insisted on remaining to see me safely on board. I left Venice with some regret, as you always do. Because Arriverderci, doesn't quite cover it...

"Lovely hotel out of the hustle and bustle"

21/05/2016

We stayed in a garden/ facing room and it was very peaceful and quiet. The welcoming glass of Prosecco went down very well after our trip from the airport and made us feel at ease immediately. The breakfast was sufficient to start our day, with a glass of Prosecco if you wanted it and a selection of cooked meat and eggs, pastries and cakes, as well as cereals. Juice was on offer as was tea and coffee. We had dinner there on our first night, which was included in our offer, and it was lovely. Again the Prosecco was free of charge. The members of staff were very helpful and attentive, without being intrusive. Our room was very large, compared to a lot of rooms in Venice, and was very well appointed. The bathroom was large and everything worked well. The room was very clean and comfortable. We would highly recommend this hotel.

"Lovely hotel in a quiet area"

Stayed with our grand -daughter in a junior suite. Room has a good surface, clean , bright and not dated as many other hotels in Venice. Airco was not working but it did not matter at this time of the year. Food is excellent: breakfast as well as dinner. Restaurant closed on Sunday evening but staff recommended a very nice local restaurant 200m from the hotel: Osteria al Pampo(typical Italian where local people come for dinner) Excellent free wifi

"Decent Hotel with Excellent Breakfast"

17/05/2016

We were initially reluctant to book this hotel due to the Best Western name and distance to the main tourist attractions in Venice, but it turned out to be a nice surprise when we arrived to the hotel. Although it is tucked away from San Marco square, it was nice to come back to the hotel after a day's worth of activities to a quiet property. We also got the opportunity to see the more residential side of Venice and see how locals carry on their day within the Sant'Elena neighbourhood. Unlike other Venetian hotels, the room was not dated and was clean upon check-in. We were disappointed with the size and lack of light in the room as the images on the internet had led us to believe it would be spacious and bright. The glass door of the shower did not cover the entire bathtub and would lead to a wet floor. Not sure why this is the case, but we noticed this at other properties during our stay in Europe. Wifi in the room was ok, at times it would be really slow, but served the need to check on emails. We were really pleased with the breakfast options. There were a variety of cold and hot items to choose from and the coffee was excellent. The servers also made special beverages upon request. The eggs could have been better, but overall we were glad this was included with our booking. San Marco square along with the other islands is easily accessible via the Vaporetto. The Sant'Elena stop is about a 3-4min walk from the hotel and the boats were quite frequent given the several lines that serve this stop. Overall, this is a great hotel if you're looking for something modern with a breakfast option and do not mind walking or taking the Vaporetto to get to your destination.

"Far from the main points, but decent place"

01/05/2016

As other reviews mention, the hotel is situated away from the main sights, which adds a 30min walk each way. This isnt bad, since the walk is nice and the park shows the locals sitting and chatting, the dogs being dogs. Further, it's an easy walk to the boat stop so it saves you from having to lug your bags too far on foot. The property is good. We both had a suite, so the rooms were very large. The couch was not very pragmatic as the leather cushions never stayed put, but I'm nitpicking. The shower only had glass that covered half, so water was all over the sink and floor, meaning you had to put towels everywhere when showered. Decent sleep, lots of space. All and all, if you don't want to be in the middle of the action and want the space, this spot is a good choice.

The hotel is lovely as we expected it to be. The room was a good size and everything was clean and maintained to a good level. The breakfast buffet was very good. Had a large selection and we walked away very content each morning. We didn't eat at the restaurant but we had heard good things about it. There is a nice outside area with sun loungers, these may be for the rooms around them but we are not sure. Would stay here again but maybe a little closer to the main square.

The hotel is about Half an hours walk from St. marks square so it's a bit out of the way. You can also take the water bus but sometimes they can be very overcrowded and uncomfortable to travel in. The hotel is neat and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was outside the soccer stadium and is very loud when a game is on. The aircon wasn't working nor did the wifi for the first night. I would have given this hotel a 3 star rating but that breakfast was just so good :)

Amazing hotel staff so helpful . In a quiet part of Venice but easy to walk to main part of Venice or get a water bus . Breakfast is buffet and plenty of it . We had a deluxe room round the courtyard and there were lovely sun beds in the garden which we were lucky enough to use as the weather was lovely

My partner and I stayed here for three nights last weekend. Excellent accommodation, great food, close to the centre but residential. The service was good especially from Gabriel who greeted us on arrival.Very clean and the best breakfast and nice dinners. Close to the water for the transport. We will definetely return to this hotel.

25/04/2016

This hotel is perfectly located outside of the main tourist scramble that is Venice. I am a tourist but I don't generally like other tourists so this location was great. The hotel was around a 20-25 min walk into central Venice. The breakfast was quite basic but done well. We stayed in a Classic double room which was very spacious and modern. Good value and would recommend for a weekend break.

"Great Location - Lovely Hotel"

25/04/2016

Venice can be very busy. It was nice to go back to the hotel after a long day walking as it is positioned on the quieter side of the island. Lovely after all the hustle and bustle. The continental breakfast was superb. Fresh fruit, gorgeous cakes, tortes and flans, sparkling wine, cereals, breads, croissants - everything you want and need. The hot food looked okayish but not my cup of tea in the morning. The room was nicely decorated. All fresh furnishings. Nice and clean. We had a bathroom with 2 sinks (we were upgraded.) The bed was very comfy. I have a bad back so it did wonders for me. Also, we were offered a complementary drink when we arrived which was a nice touch. Venice itself - Be careful of the service charges. We got stung a couple of times for ordering next to nothing in a restaurant. Restaurants extort tourists so take plenty of Euros. If you are happy living on slices of pizza and wraps, you will not have to pay any cover charges ;) Venice is a truly wonderful place. I have been to many places but I must say, Venice comes at the top of the list. The scenery, the fabulous architecture, the culture and NO CARS! Amazing place. Tip : If you are travelling from San Marco airport. Get the Alilaguna to Arsenale and walk to San't Elena. It is a 20 mins walk from there. We booked the Alilaguna (waterbus) on their website and managed to get a €4 discount. The return trip was €50 which is good in comparison to some of the other quotes we received.

This hotel is in the Castello region. It is on the vaporetto route 1, and is easily accessible. It is in a quiet area, close to the park. You walk through the trees to the vaporetto stop, 150 metres away. We had upgraded to a Junior suite, and were very pleased with it. We had a good sized room with a sitting area. However if you do not spend much time in your room this is not necessary. The bathroom was large: double sinks, bidet and bath with overhead shower. The hotel is very bright , clean, light and airy. The decoration feels very contemporary. The staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast was very good, lots of variety. It catered for everyone with a selection of hot food: bacon ,eggs, sausages and cold food: meats, cheeses, fruits, cakes, breads, juices and Prosecco. This was buffet service. The staff ensured that the buffet was kept filled. Breakfast was availble 7am until 11am. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice in the evening. Really good food and a nice atmosphere. There is an area of garden with sunloungers, if you have the time. Overall a really good place to stay. There are a couple of local places for a drink or food which are close by.

"What a great hotel!"

Whilst it is a little way out of the main sightseeing areas, it's a quiet area and ideally situated for the Lido - which is a long thin island with beaches bars atc The hotel is comfortably appointed and the staff welcoming, friendly and helpful The deal we had also included a meal in the hotel restaurant. We weren't expecting anything great, but my word it was fabulous! I had the fillet steak, and it was beautifully cooked and prepared. I would recommend anyone to eat there at least once. The breakfasts were plentiful, with the usual continental selections but some bacon and scrambled eggs also. It set us up nicely for the day We were in one of the new rooms in the courtyard. These have been criticised in previous reviews as being too small and too dark. However, they are well kitted out with everything that you could need, and are actually plenty big enough for a couple. Opening the curtains also made them light and airy I'd happily stay there again

"Lovely hotel"

A lovely hotel in a quiet neighbourhood - not in the centre of Venice but there is a water bus stop very close to the hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and we even got a complimentary drink on arrival which was very welcome. The room was small but nicely laid out and very clean and the free wifi was a bonus.

"Good Hotel in Quaint Residential Neighborhood"

17/04/2016

We stayed three nights at the Sant' Elena Hotel in early April and liked it very much. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff was helpful and attentive. The breakfast was very good and available until 11 AM (nice). The hotel has a restaurant and bar, which are good, but closed on Sundays. We were given a voucher for €20 which made the restaurant a nice bargain for dinner. The hotel is not located in the center of Venice. It's in a lovely, quaint old residential neighborhood called Sant' Elena. Very quiet, very pleasant. We used the 48-hour vaporetto pass to get around and it was great. Several different vaporetto lines stop at Sant Elena. The hotel is a very short walk from the vaporetto. Just one more stop (further from St. Mark's) is the Lido, a nice beach community with a free public beach. We booked in advance and got a great rate. Would definitely stay here again.

"Little gem"

13/04/2016

Excellent hotel within 20 mins walk of St Marks square. The short walk either by the canal or through the gardens was a delight after experiencing the hustle and bustle of Venice centre. Sant Elena is a haven of peace and tranquillity the hotel boasts a lovely courtyard garden with comfortable seating. The staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous with excellent English skills. The bedroom was bright, airy and beautifully clean. Toiletries were provide along with robes and slippers. Good selection of breakfast foods not offer with Prosecco for those who like alcohol at breakfast.. We ate in the resturant on two nights and enjoyed the meals very much. We stayed in room 221 a corner room with both canal and garden views. Will definitely stay at Sant Elena hotel should we return to Venice.

"Great hotel with great transport links"

13/04/2016

We booked this hotel knowing it was about 1km out of the main square, but we like that it means you get to explore more of the city. We arrived late at night and it is quiet around the hotel but the staff are friendly and helpful, checking us in quickly and showing us to our room. We were upgraded to a junior suite and were really pleased, the room was very big with windows all down one site opening onto a balcony which overlooked a beautiful courtyard, the canal and open water. Internet was strong in all locations of the hotel The room had a large queen bed and a double sofa as well as all the extras like bath robe and slippers. The bathroom was spotless, maybe a little dated but nothing to complain about. The breakfast in the hotel was really good - lots of choice from savory to sweet and constantly topped up. A very good buffet - something for everyone. Yes the hotel is in a quiet neighborhood with little around but its perfect for a peaceful nights sleep and exploring Venice outside of the main square. the waterbus is a 5 minute walk which took us everywhere including Lido and the other smaller islands and its very easy to use.

"Quiet but within easy reeach of everywhere"

02/04/2016

The hotel is in a quiet part of Venice, away from the crowds, but every where was easily and quickly accessible by water bus. The hotel is clean and modern with friendly, helpful staff. A reasonable range of food at breakfast, We stayed in late March and found the room was too warm at night - "the air conditioning isn't switched on until April". That aside it was a good base to visit the city. One day we took the vaporetto to the Fondamente Nove and walked back through the back streets - try it, you'll see where real Venicians live with prices in the cafes to match.

"Not quite central, quiet neighbourhood, decent hotel"

02/04/2016

The room we stayed in was quite spacious. Not much of a view. The knob to switch from bath to shower didn't work in our room. So we couldn't shower, just bath. Quite frustrating, especially when you wanted a quick shower before bed after a long day. Free wifi, but had to enter the password every 24 hours. Breakfast selection was good. Nearest water station is Sant Elena. We walked during most of our trip. It took us about half an hour walk to get to the St. Marks square. Decent hotel. I didn't quite like the toiletries provided.

Dear Guest, thank you for sharing with us your experience at BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Sant'Elena. The observations of our guests are very important, because allow us to understand what we can improve. We are sorry you could not switch the knob from the bath to the shower and we are even sorrier because you did not inform us of this issue. We would have sent our staff to verify and eventually solve the problem; most of times, indeed, the switch works but it is not so intuitive to use. Concerning the location, our hotel is inside a green area part of the historic section of Venice and next to the gardens of the Biennale. Most of our guests appreciate it because it is far from the hustle and bustle of Saint Mark's Square but it is only at a pleasant half hour walk from it (or 5 minutes by waterbus, the stop “Sant'Elena” is at only 500 m from the hotel). We are honored you chose our home for your stay in Venice and we hope to see you soon to better serve your lodging needs. Best regards, Paola D'Errigo Customer Care Supervisor

Hotel transformed from a covenant tucked away in the eastern corner of venice. 3 minutes walk to the boat for easy transport to the center of the city. Friendly staff, good service, and good selection in the breakfast included. We had two problems during our stay: first, the sound insulation is not great. We definitely got to know the couple above us in a more intimate way thanks to the combination of their volume and the thickness of the walls. Second, there was a very bad smell coming from our bathrooms that just wouldn't go away for our 4 night stay. All in all, I still recommend this hôtel due to the points above

"A peaceful corner of a beautiful city"

We had four lovely days in Venice, made all the more enjoyable by our stay here. The hotel is located in a quiet area East of the city, about half an hour's lovely stroll along the seafront- although there is s vaporetto stop about 100 metres away. The staff were lovely-helpful and friendly. We had a couple of problems at first but they were quickly remedied. The breakfast was amazing-so much choice, and the one dinner we had was good value and very tasty! We would have eaten there more but we were exploring!!!!

Ideal location away from the busy centre whilst easily accessible by waterbus. The hotel is comfortable & the staff are very friendly & helpful, I would recommend this hotel & would definitely choose this hotel on any future holidays to Venice. We were in a Monday to Friday break & I would recommend buying a 3 day pass for the waterbuses.

We got married last Aug and due to my father- in- laws death the week before, we cancelled the honeymoon and re booked in March. We booked with Fleetway Travel and they informed the hotel of the circumstances. On arrival we were upgraded to the best room of the hotel..our own living room and roof top terrace and lovely bedroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful..they turned our heating down( controlled from reception) and supplied more tea and milk as required. We ate in one night, food good and reasonable price...for Venice. Breakfasts are lovely, well organised, and fresh food. The position of the hotel was great. Arriving at Marco Polo airport we stepped outside and straight onto a bus to Venice and from the bus stop there over to the grand canal to a no1 vaporeta. This took us all the way down the grand canal, a lovely introduction to the island. Sant elena stop is only few yards away from hotel.( inland and right fork) . We enjoyed walking daily into the centre 20 mins along waterfront.. Or longer if you go the backstreets and get lost! We highly recommend the hotel.

"Perfect Place to Stay in Venice"

I thoroughly recommend this hotel to stay in during your trip in Venice. It is about an hour from the airport, and you can get a three day pass for 34 euros which includes a bus from the airport to the main dock and then unlimited travel on the water buses for 3 days. The hotel is in the quieter part of St'Elena, and after visiting the more touristy parts, it is perfect to be away from the hustle and bustle. It is only 3 stops from St'Marcos square, and a really lovely 15-20 minute walk from there. Arriving at the hotel we were checked in swiftly and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were offered a glass of prosecco which was lovely to drink and relax for a while before we went to our room. It was my 30th birthday whilst we were there are we had a Junior Suite. The room was perfect! Large enough with a huge bed, large bathroom and a sofa to relax. We had a lovely view of the gardens, somewhere we sat on some days as they were pretty. On my birthday, the hotel brought a bottle of prosecco with nibbles and a cupcake to our room. It was very special and once again, they were extremely attentive to our needs. The breakfast was fantastic - continental meats, cheeses, pastries, breads, fruits and even egg, bacon and sausages. My favourite part was having a prosecco breakfast every day, as prosecco was available to drink for free as part of the breakfast. I really cannot recommend this hotel enough, and when we return to Venice we will definitely return to this hotel.

We stayed for x3 nights in March 2016. Nice hotel and friendly staff. Good location close to the Santa Elena vapperetto stop , giving frequent and easy access to the main Venice attractions. Easy transfers from Marco Polo via the airport bus . We also bought a 3 day vapperetto ticket on arrival which is a must do and gives you great access across Venice. One tip for this hotel is try to avoid the ground floor rooms ( 114-120) as they are somewhat cramped and have little to no soundproofing !! Otherwise an excellent hotel and nice quiet location.

Sant Elena is at the Eastern end of Venice with a vaporetto stop allowing you to get to all the main sites, the islands and the Lido in less than half a hour. San Marco is 5 to 10 minutes. The hotel is nicely appointed, clean and with friendly helpful staff. We had a junior suite in the garden. Large with a sofa and plenty of space. Very enjoyable to be able to get the air into the room even in March. The breakfast was good and if staying in the hotel the restaurant is recommended. We dined there because we were too tired with walking to go out again and thoroughly enjoyed the food and wine. Wine by the glass a particular bargain. The only downside is the general rundown feeling of the local area. People are friendly and it feels safe but everything feels a little shabby. Overall though a good location to give the opportunity to get away from the frenetic centre and recharge for the following day whilst still being only a few minutes away.

We had a fantastic 3 nights stay in Venice, staying at the Best Weatern Premier St Elena. Whilst this isn't a high end/luxury hotel it was exceptionally good value for money! Staff were really great - very helpful and accommodating. They spoke good English which helped us as our Italian is severely lacking! Rooms were clean and comfortable Hotel includes free wifi and buffet breakfast which was also very nice (better than some higher ranking NYC hotels we've stayed in previously!) Location was wonderful - it's about 5-7 minutes by water bus from St Elena to St Marco (St Marks sq is the centre of Venice).. Which is a nice 25 minute stroll if the sun is shining and you want a relaxing walk along the "sea front". St Elena has a nice green space/park that you wander through to get to the hotel and is also a nice quiet neighbourhood if you don't like being disturbed at night Top tip - get a Venice city pass to allow you to jump on/off any water bus as needed without it costing you too much! In general it's not a cheap place to visit!

For our tenth anniversary , my husband and I took a small tour of Italy. We spent two nights at this charming hotel, and I enthusiastically recommend it to any traveler seeking peace and comfort from the colorful and rowdy (during carnivale) St Mark's, Venice. After hours of traipsing the convoluted streets of Venice, it is possible to take a vaporetto to a quieter part of town, Saint Elena Park with its towering trees and sleepy neighborhood. A walk down a path through these trees will lead you quickly to the front steps of the St Elena nunnery enjoying a second run as a very nicely maintained Best Western. The lobby, halls, rooms and even elevator retain some of the austere charm of an old convent, while simultaneously being cheerful and comfortable. Our room was tiny and, I'm quite sure, one-of-a-kind with a cramped bathroom and oddly placed window. The view was of the surrounding villa windows and rooftops ... Very charming. The room decor was fresh and clean feeling, landing on the side of functional rather than luxurious. I would not dream of staying there with my four young children, although one or two children might be accommodated in the small space we had. The toiletries were upscale and I packed them away for my own guest rooms at home, a habit of mine that annoys my husband to no end. The restaurant deserves mention ... The hours are a little tight for my taste (breakfast is over at 10 and lunch at 2, dinner hours are just 6-10). The buffet breakfast was very nice but without lox which is my favorite breakfast fare. We hotfooted it home one evening and caught the place open and we had dessert. It was yummy and the service was really very good. There is a small library of books for the taking just off the dining room which is an always welcome feature. Most, however, were in Italian so bring your own if you like reading while on vacation. One day I will return to this little gem, but until then, you will have to enjoy it on my behalf! (An important P.S. ... If you are looking to stay in the middle of the excitement or want to feel embraced by the reveling Venice crowds as you drift to sleep at night, this hotel is NOT FOR YOU! It is a quiet respite away from the noisy carnivale crowd, a sanctuary peaceful enough for NUNS)

Nice 4 star hotel in quiet location. No food at lunchtime as most guest visiting the city. Odd restaurant/ bar set up but the wine offered is very well priced and of good quality,as indeed was the spritz. We had a well appointed room overlooking a quiet garden. Friendly staff. Easy access to other sites as the water bus stop is close to hotel.

We stayed at the hotel for four nights and enjoyed it, we had a lovely room with big opening door onto a small terrace over looking the garden and the canal close by ( room 318) . When we arrived we were put into a smaller room which did not suit as I am slightly claustrophobic and this room was quite dark so I explained at the reception and the guy very kindly put us into a bigger room which was perfect plenty of light and huge Windows . The hotel it's self is very comfortable but has no facilities , no lounge or seating areas if you want to relax it has to be in the room , it has small bar and dining room which is ok, I would say adequate for holiday makers who just need a base to sleep and eat . The area is very quiet and a little unkept but that maybe because it was out of season , it has a nice water front and is very handy for the water bus , there are a couple of restaurants near by one in particular which is really nice just next to the hotel Vecia Gina I would recommend you book as it does get busy but worth going . We really had no complaints it was a good holiday

Book here with a package including flights. Nice place to stay. Breakfast had no faults. We didn't dine here for lunch or dinner as we were spending our days out in the heart of Venice. Decent size room, large bed with his and her sinks. Perfect place to stay for any occasion be that business or vacation. Friendly staff always available when you need them. Free Internet and a printer along with all little extras such as adapters and reception phone use. If you're looking for a nice affordable place to stay, you won't be disappointed.

I could not fault anything about this hotel. It was everything we had hoped for and read about. Perfect location for venice and sightseeing. The morning walks into the centre excellent. Hotel and staff could not have made us feel more welcome. The room was excellent and the bottle of bubbly in our room made it feel even better.

I stayed only one night in BW Sant'Elena and it was a rather good experience. Quite easy to reach from the Airport (it's well explained on their website), warm welcome from the staff. I like the location, it's really calm and you won't meet many tourists around the hotel. A 20-25-minutes walk to San Marco. The room is definitely comfy, there's everything one can need and I slept very well. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and the cuisine was surprisingly good, both in terms of presentation and taste. The only downsides were: - Average breakfast - Not very friendly waiters in the bar/restaurant area - High price

We have just returned from a 3 night break and stayed here. I cannot fault the hotel. The room was very comfortable (if a little warm, but when it's raining, who would complain?), the bathroom very clean and there are tea and coffee making facilities. Our offer included a free meal which was superb, as well as a private trip to the Moreno glass factory which was very interesting. The hotel is in a quiet area, but don't let this put you off, the shuttle boats are about a 3 min walk away and very frequent. A wonderful base for a wonderful break

We stayed at the Santa Elena for three nights on a package deal and were extremely impressed by our accommodation. A junior suite well furnished and very comfortable. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and all well presented. The location may be away from the centre of Venice but is quiet and relaxing. On our final day we booked a water taxi to take us to the airport but strong winds meant we had to make a detour down the Grand Canal and meet a taxi all the logistics were managed for us by the hotel reception.

Just back from a 3 night cheap offer break in Venice. Stayed at the St Elena and was very pleased with it.The location is excellent out of centre but within a few minutes of a waterbus stop which means you can be in the heart of things easily as they run about every 10 minutes. If the weather is fine it is a very pleasant 20 minute stroll along front to St Marks. There is a nice cafe/bar just around the corner and a couple of little local shops and a pharmacy handy. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. The quality and the cleanliness of the room was faultless. The included breakfast was great with good service, choice and quality served until 11 am and kept well stocked even if you were a late comer. Our deal included one free evening meal and an excursion both of which were better than I had expected. Thank you St Elena for a most pleasant few days.

02/03/2016

We have just returned from a 5 day break in Venice staying at the Best Western Saint Elena Hotel . As previously mentioned the Hotel is to the Eastern side of the Island but don't let this put you off the location is excellent . We were initially bothered about getting from the Airport to the hotel and the mention of waterbuses etc.but it couldn't have been easier .I'll try and explain as simply as possible. When you arrive Marco Polo airport as you go inside the airport building you will see several ticket machines , buy tickets we chose single to “ATVO Air terminal”(Also known as Aerobus) bus service which connects Marco Polo airport to Venice-Piazzale Roma (main bus terminal) in approximately 30 min. When you arrive at the bus terminal go down the steps in front of you and at the kiosk purchase your tickets to Saint Elena . The Water bus stop is 100 Meters to your left from here waterbuses depart to Sant'Elena every 10 minutes. The most comfortable and fastest are lines 5.1 and 6 (30 minutes). The Best Western Hotel Sant'Elena is located 150 meters from the waterbus dock cross the park taking the right fork go down Calle Buccari 20 metres and you are there. The hotel is excellent we had a large comfortable room 1st floor Room 211 ,superb King size bed and very large bathroom with good shower. The breakfasts in the Hotel were 1st class and we had 2 evening meals in the Hotel which were superb. The Hotel staff are the gems of this Hotel and nothing is too much trouble and always with a smile. You can get a free street map from reception and that is all you will need to find your way around Venice. Top tip Get a 3 Day pass for the water buses this will save you a fortune and you can hop on and off the buses and save your legs. The Hotel gives you a complimentary water taxi ride to Morano Island and a visit to a factory , take the free visit but you have to pay for your return but that's OK if you bought the 3 day pass. You can buy all your tickets from the little kiosk near the Saint Elena bus stop.

23/02/2016

Before booking at the Sant' Elena we looked into several central apartments but we were happy with our choice to book into this hotel. Whilst it's slightly outside of the centre of Venice, it's a mere 20 minute walk to Sant Marco's Square and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the hotel. Our rooms were in the courtyard and were tastefully decorated with all the mod cons. Robes, slippers and the usual essentials are all at your disposal as well. Breakfast is superb, with a variety of continental and cooked choices. We also liked the complimentary prosecco to make Mimosas. From check-in to checkout, all of the staff are helpful and courterous. We had the misfortune of having two days of rain, but we received good suggestions from the reception desk on what to visit when the weather is bad. They even gave us umbrellas to keep us dry whilst we walked around rainy Venice. A fabulous hotel and would happily return again. Thank you Sant' Elena!

"PEACEFUL AREA"

21/02/2016

This is a good hotel in a beautiful and peaceful area of Venice. We went to spend a weekend in the city and to enjoy the Biennale, which is 10 minutes walking from the hotel. The area is well connected with vaporetto to all the points of the city.

"Super Comfy Beds!"

17/02/2016

We stayed at Sant' Elena for 4 nights as a party of four. We loved the breakfasts which were plentiful and tasty. There were lots of welcoming "touches" like the welcome drinks and the easy access to many free items e.g. umbrellas, slippers, bath robes, extra toiletries etc. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel is some walking distance from the main tourist areas, but the water buses are frequent and easy to catch. Anyone arriving in Venice should take the bus to Piazzale Roma (main bus train/station) then catch a water bus to Sant' Elena. Our rooms were warm and welcoming and the beds were super comfortable. (Finding non sport/news British channels on the TV was a bit difficult, but we didn't have much time for watching TV.) We considered booking a central apartment, but were so glad we chose to book into the Sant' Elena instead. Would definitely go back.

"Excellent base for exploring Venice"

17/02/2016

The hotel is in a peaceful part of Venice, away from the crowds, but easily and quickly accessible by water bus. It is also a pleasant walk away. The hotel is clean and modern with friendly, helpful staff. Great range of food at breakfast, and good quality. We would stay again.

"Reasonable Hotel"

This is a reasonable hotel, at a 30 minutes walking distance from the center. There are not many amenities, but sufs if it is only for sleeping. The breakfast is not bad, but the place is very small so it get crowded very easily and quick. It an decent average hotel.

In my opinion the hotel is well situated, located in the green area of St Elena, away from the hustle and bustle of St Marco's Square. For some it may be too far out, but for us, it provided a lovely 15 minute walk to said square (all along the 'coastal path', with beautiful views). Initially we used to water taxi to get there, from the stop it's less than a 5 minutes walk. Ask the person in the kiosk and they will direct you. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. Reception staff were very friendly, they escort you to your room once you have checked in - which I found to be a nice touch. It has restaurant and bar service (restaurant closed on Sunday's though), both providing waiter service. They have a good selection of food and drink to choose from. This room and other areas of the hotel were very well presented, clean and warm (it was quite cold out when we were staying). Do be aware that on check-in there is a 'city tax' to be pay, rates changed when we went, but for 3 nights it cost 20 euros. The room was excellent. So very peaceful, the blackout blind was a nice surprise. Very warm and cosy. The room was spacious, had all the usual amenities - kettle with condiments, safe, TV, spacious wardrobe, shampoo, body wash etc. The decoration was very nicely done. The beds were so comfy. The room was spotless. Same applies with the bathroom. It was nice having a bath (not every hotel provides one), especially after a long day sight seeing. All towels and bed sheets were in pristine condition. The mini-bar was a nice treat - quite surprised to find it was cheaper than drinking in any bar / restaurant. It wasn't applicable for us - but they do offer a laundry service - which would be handy for a longer stay. Breakfast was included in the tariff - it is a good breakfast, but probably more suited to the European's than the Brit's. Very continental. But I wouldn't mark it down and let it put others off, that is just my preference. There is a wide selection of cereal, breads, yogurts, fruit and cakes to choose from. I loved the scrambled eggs, very delicious. Hotel provides free WIFI

"Nice hotel, not too far from the centre"

Location: The hotel is on the far east side of the main island. Easy to get to from the main rail station (santa lucia) by vaparetto boat. The vaparetto stop is Santa Elena and the hotel is a short 5 minute walk through the park. The path can look like an eerie movie scene at night with the mist and silence through the park, but it is safe and has wide open spaces. The main square is San Marco, and is about half an hour on foot or 10-15 minutes by the vaparetto boat. It is a nice walk though to see the fair and the shops along the way. Staff: Staff were polite and courteuous. Check in and check out was quick. Service at their restaurant was efficient and professional. Room: We stayed in a double room, which was large enough, clean and quiet. Bed was 2 single mattresses pushed together. We preferred the modern feel of this hotel instead of the old classic furniture style found in many other Venice hotels. Restaurant Breakfast was good and had the usual variety on offer: eggs, toast, breads, pastries Staff were busily clearing away the tables and keeping the breakfast trays fully stocked (useful for the late risers) We had dinner at the hotel as well which was also quite good Overall A comfortable stay at a good price, away from the central square.

"Great family hotel ..."

20/01/2016

When I made the booking at Sant' Elena hotel I was a bit worried that it's a bit far away from all the main attraction in Venice. But I can tell you that didn't bothered my family at all. The hotel is clean and the rooms are spacious. Their breakfast catered for all ages. My son and daughter loved the hot chocolate and the nutella spreads in the morning, also the divine pastries that they have on offer. Laura at the reception are especially helpful, she assisted me with all my questions and queries. We will definitely stay there again if we ever visit Venice again.

"nice to be away from the hussle and bussle"

this hotel is a fair walk from the centre of Venice, but that's quite nice because you can get a break from it all. The water bus service can be picked up really close by. the hotel was clean and modern. The breakfast was excellent, the staff helpful & we had a comfortable stay there. We ate in one evening & it was quite acceptable. we would have eaten another night if the kitchen had been open.

"quiet and convenient"

30/12/2015

The Hotel Sant' Elena is in a quiet green area conveniently situated near a vaporetto stop. This made it very easy to travel anywhere by water, but it is an easy 20-minute walk to St. Mark's Square. The neighborhood near the hotel has a friendly pizza restaurant and the hotel itself has a good bar and a decent restaurant if you're tired from the day. Otherwise, it's best to head back to the central area to find an assortment of restaurants. Our room was large and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The buffet breakfast is one of the best we have experienced. We stayed 5 nights and benefited from a 5th-night discount on the room rate. We also purchased a 72-hour vaporetto ticket that gave us 3 days for the price of 2. This allowed us to hop on and off without a second thought.

"Peaceful location"

29/12/2015

Located in a residential area near beautiful gardens and just across from the water transports. Our room consisted of a small sitting area and a seperate bedroom. We were located in the corner of the building on ground floor next to a small canal and naval college. Room had big windows that open to fresh air and located just at head height so quiet private. I loved everything about this quant historic ex convent. Meals and breakfast had good selection. The staff were helpful and friendly in your usual Italian way. Just a 10 - 15 min walk down to the restaurants were the locals eat, we had an excellent pizza and a good local red at a reasonable price. Can't wait to stay again.

24/12/2015

We visited in June 2015 and what a pleasant experience we had. The room was fantastic; Comfortable, clean and everything worked well. The staff were absolutely lovely and really went out of their way for us which we really appreciated as one of my friends became very ill during the last day of our trip. The area is quiet and peaceful, with a little shop around the corner for emergencies, and away from all the hustle and bustle - ideal after a long day sightseeing. The breakfast spread is plentiful and an array of foods to choose from. Would highly recommend!

Our friends recommended this hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is close to a large park and a short 2 block walk from the vaporetto stop. The neighborhood is very quiet. Our room was lovely, the free wifi worked well, the breakfast had many delicious offerings, the staff was very helpful.

"Our TENTH consecutive year at the Hotel Sant'Elena!"

10/12/2015

Once again – this Four Star hotel deserves Five Stars for value and service. Our TENTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR at the Hotel Sant'Elena in July 2015 was even more enjoyable than our previous nine visits, and our annual trip to celebrate my wife's birthday was, again, a wonderful experience in this, one of the most beautiful of cities on Earth. We have already booked our eleventh stay in June 2016. As President of an association of former students of an English art school, I tentatively invited members to join us for our 2016 trip - we're already up to a party size of 40 with 6 months to go, and expect the total to exceed 50 friends. More than twenty of our friends have already stayed at the Sant'Elena on our recommendation and were delighted. Our 2015 stay at the Hotel Sant'Elena was, preciously, entirely predictable . . . our TENTH stay at the Sant'Elena where Signor Roberto Rossi and his first class team once again excelled in the quality of service. Personable staff, wonderful food, impeccable cleanliness, and a willingness to ensure that our every wish was catered for. We were especially impressed, once again, with the service personally provided by Francesco, the head waiter, and Sherban, the breakfast waiter both of whom excel in their professionalism. These, and the other members of staff, especially Gabrielle, Giulia and Barbara are a real credit to the hotel. Our mornings began in bright sunshine with the warmest of welcomes from Sherban (who never stops smiling), asking if he can serve us with coffee or tea at our table, and assist us in choosing from a wide range of food for our breakfast, including freshly cooked omelettes. A fantastic start to the day. We are seasoned travellers (I'm an artist / photographer) and we're quite demanding when it comes to service and value for money. We again upgraded to a roomy Junior Suite at very reasonable cost and enjoyed our stay even more. We stayed in the standard “Classic” double bedrooms during our first four visits, which were perfectly fine, but our holiday dates now take in my wife's birthday on 4 July (she's having a big birthday next year, so where else we go?), so we're a touch more extravagant. We were able, again, to explore the exquisite surrounding area, including easy railway trips to some of the other historic cities in the Veneto and surrounding area, including Verona, Treviso, Padua and Vicenza. Breakfast may be taken in the air-conditioned Dining Room, in the covered outdoor dining area, or al fresco at tables on the garden lawn in the quiet morning sunshine (or, if you're feeling lazy, in your bedroom for a small additional charge). LOCATION: Being in the only green area of the island, it's fresh, clean and very peaceful. The main island of Venice is just that, an island surrounded by water. From Marco Polo Airport (our preferred airport), you can walk to the nearby vaporetto / water taxi stop in ten minutes, or get a cab. It's a slight extravagance, but we indulge ourselves by booking a water taxi (a covered motor launch with open back) at the airport which takes us speedily and in great style direct to the hotel in around 30 minutes at a cost of £80 (you can obviously share and halve the cost). NEW FOR 2015 was the ability to share a water taxi at a fixed cost of £25 – a great deal which makes the vaporetto (public waterbus) service very unattractive. For us, it's the only way to arrive. Water taxis can be ordered from the conspicuous desk at the airport arrivals lounge. We were amazed to find that one of the two young ladies we shared a water taxi with lives only a 5 minute walk from our home in England! The alternative is the vaporetto which is crowded, usually with standing room only. The vaporetto is cheaper but takes much longer – it will take you to the vaporetto stop at Sant Elena, from where the Hotel Sant'Elena is just a two or three minute stroll. The vaporetto runs every ten minutes from Sant Elena, and will take you to St. Mark's Square in just 10 minutes (*don't forget to buy your multi-day pass for the vaporetto at the airport on arrival - unlimited walk on / walk off trips. A great way to end the day is to go to the vaporetto terminal at Piazalle Roma, re-board a fresh No. The beds, bed linen and towels are superb, and the cleanliness is impeccable - I was VERY surprised to read an earlier review that criticised the standard of cleanliness - the care given to cleanliness is one of the things that always impresses us. The decor is modern, light, cool and airy. We've seen inside many of the other hotels on the island, the majority of which try to attract guests with reproduction Renaissance, Baroque or Rococo furniture and decoration - who would want to wake up to red flock wallpapered walls on a hot summer morning? It's a sign of a good employer that good staff are retained, and we were again looked after impeccably by the manager, Signor Rossi and his excellent team, most of whom have been with the hotel since we began visiting ten years ago. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel more often than in previous years. The head waiter at Sant'Elena, Francesco, assisted by Allesandro, once again reminded us how wonderful it is to be served by a waiter who takes a huge pride in his work, his professionalism adding to the dining experience. The hotel has a slightly more limited menu than the 'tourist' restaurants, but if you are a fan of fillet steak, or branzino (sea bass) cooked to absolute perfection, as we are, you'll have a great experience. We avoided visiting one of our earlier favourite nearby local restaurants, Al Diporto da Mario Baffo, for a few years, but were pleased to find that that they have now regained their ability to delight with their fish dishes, especially the spaghetti alla vongole (spaghetti with clams in a garlic and wine sauce), branzino (whole sea bass) and frittura misto di pesce (battered mixed fried fish). We thoroughly enjoyed a few dinners there under the personal supervision of the highly personable owner, Mario. VALUE: The fact that we returned for our TENTH consecutive year in 2015 says it all. The Hotel Sant'Elena is perfect for us, but do check out other 4 Star hotels for price and quality at Booking.Com or Hotels.Com, just to satisfy yourself. You'll find, though that the prices for equivalent 4 Star accommodation ON THE MAIN ISLAND can be double or treble what we pay at the Sant'Elena. We now book direct with the hotel via their own website for best price, and the helpful staff can discuss any queries you may have by phone. Whatever hotel you choose, do make sure that you ignore all claims about close proximity to St. Mark's Square! Venice is heaving with visitors at most times of the year, and whilst the Square, Basilica and Palace are of course essential destinations for visits, if you're anything like us, you'll definitely prefer a hotel away from the hustle, bustle, noise and crowds to relax after a tiring day in this magnificent jewel of a City.

The hotel is an enjoyable 15 minute walk to the main canal. We enjoyed the being able to be so close but far enough away to avoid the crowds. Our family had a split level room with a huge balcony over looking the hotel courtyard and a small canal.. Going off season was a plus!

Stayed for a 2 nights break and really enjoyed it. Good location and comfortable beds. Will definitely recommend for short breaks. There are better offers, of course the budget matters. For us was perfect.

We stayed there for 4 nights in a Junior Suite. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the staff are very helpful and the breakfast is one of the best I've had in a hotel (especially good if you like cakes for breakfast). The bar had Talisker so I was happy. The hotel is at the eastern end of the island so is in a quiet area. It's a very short walk from the water bus stop so it's easy to get to and you can walk to San Marco in about 20 minutes. There are plenty of restaurants in the Garibaldi street which is nearer. The only slight gripe we had was that the shower was a bit awkward to get into as you have to squeeze in between the sink and the shower screen. Other than that, recommended.

We really liked this hotel located in the beautiful island of Sant Elena, a walking distance to the Gardini for visitors of the Biennale. Room was spacious, modern and clean and the service was super. We will definitly come again. Only comment, breakfast can be improved espcially the coffee.

"Perfect Stay during Biennale"

I stayed here when I visited in July for the Biennale '15 with my friend and her 5 year old son. It was a very comfortable stay - the hotel is located in a green area surrounded by trees, even has an excellent playground near by where you can see local children playing and local Venetian adults enjoying a walk or reading on some of the comfy benches lining the walls under the trees. We visited peak summer mid July when Venice gets quite hot, but this area stays cooler due to the greenery. It's only 2 mins walk to a vaporetto stop, 10 mins walk to Giardini - the Biennale venue. Or you can take the vaporetto to Giardini which is just the next stop! The hotel itself was very comfortable with modern and spacious baths & large comfortable bed. The breakfast is very nice with a large selection to choose from- even a glass of sparkling wine, which was lovely. There are two family run restaurants right next to the hotel, which serve excellent local fare. Very good value for money. It's a gem and a welcome surprise away from the crowded tourist places. I would be definitely staying here again and recommend it highly, specially to people attending the Biennale and to people traveling with children as there are lots of green spaces and a play ground for children. It was also a great place to watch the Annual festa del Redentore fireworks on a hot steamy July evening.

My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights. I booked the reservations through Expedia and went for the Jr. Suite since it was only slightly more money than a regular room. Our suite was on the first floor and it was very nice. We had a seating area with a couch & coffee table, desk, king size bed, closet that lit up when doors opened, large bathroom with 2 sinks, bathrobe & slippers were provided. Staff is very friendly; breakfast was delicious...lots to choose from; free Wi-Fi was very good. The hotel provides free shuttle service to Murano Glass Factory, but the day we wanted to go it was extremely foggy & all the boats to Murano were cancelled. It's on the far eastern end of Venice near Lido. A little bit of a pain to get from the airport (you have to take vaporetto to Lido, then switch to another vaporetto to Sant'Elena. The hotel is less than 1.5 blocks from the vaporetto stop. Very nice tree lined park and quiet. It takes about 45 min. by vaporetto to get to the Train Station (longer if it's foggy and some of the lines are cancelled).

It's a very old hotel, rooms were very nice , clean , food in the restaraunt is very good , there's at least a twenty minute walk to get anywhere , a little hard to find until you get used to the area . elevators were very small . very quiet area , slept with windows open.

We stayed in Venice for two days both before and after a cruise. The first two days we stayed on a boat and it was an AWFUL experience! The last two days we stayed close by the terrible boat at the Best Western Premier Hotel SantElena. It was luxurious accommodation! Friendly helpful staff. A welcome drink. Beautiful building. Quiet room. Large bedroom and bathroom. Great shower. Delicious breakfast. Wonderful location near the vaporetto. If I go back to Venice I will definitely stay here again!

Staying in Venice is a problem. Close in it is crowded & noisy, further out access is a problem. This one is fifteen minutes walk along the waterside to St. Marks or a five minute boat ride. It has pleasant parks around it and a number of reasonable eateries. It is quiet. Rooms are good without being spectacular and the breakfast is excellent

This hotel is off the beaten track in Castello, near the marina and the local football ground. It is a more modern building. The rooms are extremely spacious (for venice) and the bed etc was very, very comfortable! The decor is minimal and modern. Very clean. Breakfast was excellent. The staff were very helpful. The best bit was the price.....very good for Venice. Tips: Don't expect a view. You can walk to Saint Marks square...about 25 min Vaporetto to Saint Marks is 2 stops If you fly into Venice, take a water taxi to this hotel, it is expensive but you wont regret it!! Saves lugging your bags from boat to boat and the service is great. Not many restaurants nearby...ask the front desk for recommendations (just

The hotel is located close to the Giardini and the Arsenal, so is wonderfully-well-placed for visitors to the Biennale. However, it also has a vaporetto stop only 1 minute's walk away, so is well placed for visiting the rest of Venice by boat, while being well away from the crowds around San Marco. The hotel is good quality, with friendly staff and good breakfasts (prosecco, espresso coffee and chocolate cake particularly). Our room was a good size and quiet, with a very comfortable bed. What more do you want?

We were so disappointed in this hotel after seeing the photos online. They certainly misrepresented it. We chose to go here as a party of 6 after a recommendation from friends but we thought it was really basic. The reception area was cheap with a worn rug and there was nowhere to sit and have a drink. There was a bar but It was in the dining room. The garden was overgrown. Of 3 rooms on the ground floor, 2 were really dark with high windows and no outlook. The rooms were of a good standard and well appointed and the breakfast was good but we spent as little time as possible in the hotel. This was not a nice area as it was dark and there were no bars or shops or restaurants. It was very quiet and near the vaporeto stop which was a plus. I would certainly not recommend it to anyone.

Dear Mrs Linda, first of all we would like to thank you for sharing with us your impressions on the stay at our BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Sant'Elena. We are sure that any comment, either positive or negative, from our clients is important to improve the quality of our hotel. We are sorry that your experience here did not meet your expectations. The distinctive of our hotel is it was an ancient convent. For this reason, its rooms are very characteristic and unique. Their size is variable, smaller or bigger, according to the choice at the time of the booking. Concerning the location, our hotel is inside a green area part of the historic section of Venice and next to the gardens of the Biennale. Most of our guests appreciate it because it is far from the hustle and bustle of Saint Mark's Square but it is only at a pleasant half hour walk from it (or 5 minutes by waterbus). Thank you for choosing our BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Sant'Elena. We are looking forward to better serving your lodging needs. Best regards, Paola D'Errigo Customer Care Supervisor BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Sant'Elena

We enjoyed a couple of nights here before joining our cruise. Was handy enough to easily catch the public water taxi, but also felt like it was a bit tucked away from the busyness of the centre of Venice. Loved it, would definitely stay there again.

We went back (3rd time) and loved it all as much. The location is part of a residential Venice community with kids playing football in the park next to the Canal, 20 minute walk to San Marco but outdoor bars and coffee with locals who come down from surrounding apartments is great to experience and away from the busy sites. Great base for hopping on and off vaporettos.

Stayed here before joining our cruise ship. We arrived by private water taxi to be greeted by exceptional friendly staff. To our surprise we were upgrade to a spacious suite with a large balcony ,luxury to the finger tips. The food was very good as we used the dining room daily, the price being moderate. There is a few shops and restaurants near by , and not to far to walk in a nice day or evening to the Centre ,also convientient to the water bus service. If and when we return to Venice on a trip or to join a cruise ship this will be our choice of hotel. A big but belated thank you to all the staff.

We stayed here for 2 nights (wish it could have been longer) as part of a tour of Italy. The experience begins when you travel by boat to the vaporetto stop close to the hotel. (Our luggage had been collected from the station and brought in another boat.) The hotel had been a convent and all the rooms were slightly different (I think). Ours had 2 windows overlooking the side canal and one overlooking rooftops and the main canal. The breakfasts were probably the best we had in Italy. Although the hotel was far enough away from the centre of Venice to be very quiet it was possible to walk to the centre alongside the canal through the local park. I would certainly like to visit this hotel again.

"Good hotel, especially for Biennale"

We stayed here for three nights, with our primary objective in Venice being the Biennale. This hotel is a great location for that -- it's within easy walking distance of Giardini and Arsenale, the two primary Biennale locations -- and if you're not feeling like walking, you can take the vaporetto one stop to the Arsenale. After long days at the Biennale, it was really nice to walk back to the hotel quickly. The hotel itself is nice though quite expensive for what you get. Our room was very, very small but always clean and neatly kept. The hotel and rooms are also very quiet, so you don't have to worry about street noise or the like. Breakfast is very nice -- a large assortment of food and a helpful staff. I do not recommend dinner there; our pasta was pretty terrible.

the hotel is in a quiet area of ??the city. the vaporetto it is necessary for any movement. breakfast very good. room relatively clean. the price too high. Nothing to view from the room. for the money I paid I did not receive similar services. I expected something better.

This hotel is located in a quiet older neighborhood about a 25 minute walk from St, Mark's Square. Perfect location to escape to after a long day among the crowds around the Grand Canal and Venice proper. Rooms are clean and have great views. The included breakfast is the usual fare. Wifi in rooms. Take the stairs if you are claustrophobic -- this hotel has the smallest elevator I've ever been in (so of course we squeezed into it every chance we got!). Quaint and charming.

Nice and clean hotel in a quiet but slightly rundown area. For someone with walking difficulties a bit far out from the centre, which is a good 30 minutes walk. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast ok but with only one toaster that takes ages to toast! So people waiting! If you plan to eat out nearby, again a good walk, as the nearby restaurant was not very good.

Located in quiet residential area an easy walk to the centre along the waterfront . We moved from another hotel in Venice which was a major let down to the St Elena which was a major improvement . We were upgraded to a Junior suite which was large clean and well furnished . the breakfast was good . overall a very enjoyable stay Wifi a bit hit and miss

"Good Hotel away from the crowds"

We chose this hotel because it offered great value and a perfectly good standard of accommodation. We wanted a base from which to explore Venice but without being right in the centre of things. It's a good 20 minute walk from St Marks but a very nice walk along the canal or through the park. There isn't a great deal immediately around the hotel but there is a very nearby water bus stop that gets you to the main areas within a few minutes. The hotel itself is perfectly pleasant - staff are lovely, breakfast is great and the grounds and communal areas are clean and tidy. The first room we were shown was very small so we did request a different room and ended up in a ground floor garden side room which was compact but had all you needed and was finished to a very good standard. (Folding storage is very limited so would recommend taking extra hangers to hang things). Overall a perfectly good place to stay as a base for sightseeing.
