Best Western Plus Sands

I am a Best Western Platinum member and was disappointed in this hotel. I have never stayed at a Best Western world wide that has an air conditioner that was new in 1970! Please see picture. It was terrible, had an operational display that without guide book was hit and miss to set. I have to be honest and say that we have never stayed at any hotel besides this Best Western where the air conditioner was so old. They have spent money on updating the bathroom and a new( noisy) coffee machine but never given thought to the guests comfort in the room for heat or cold. I pity any guests that come in summer from around the world and expect a good AC unit in the room. The location is good and the beds very comfortable. I hate paying $20 to park my car when you are giving them business but that's standard in most large cities.

The whole restaurant team serving us was very warm, welcoming and great. Awesome options available to eat. Wholesome meal. We do not eat meat but they ensured we had an amazing healthy breakfast. Even for kids they took extra care to ensure to cater according to their taste buds. Tony and Alan on the customer service/checkin desk were professional as well as friendly. You all deserve a 10/10. Recommend this place to everyone. Centrally located and walkable around. Safe and fun at the same time.

This BW was clean and pretty, with excellent customer service. The location was a huge positive. We were able to walk for miles during the evening and in the morning; McDonalds, 2-Drug Stores, and Safeway, were all so close, and of course several fabulous coffee shops. Our view from the 2nd floor was of looking down over the town, which is clean and without graffiti! So many individuals dressed to the nines walking around. I only saw one homeless individual. (There were NO tents lining the streets) Unlike Seattle, I felt completely safe and very Zen!

Breakfast was not included and was great food but very expensive. TV and movie options were bad. Vending machine was old and super loud squealing all night. Bathroom was very small. Heating and cooling system was old. The room was nice and clean and beds were super comfortable.

So glad we decided to go with this hotel. The value was unbeatable for the location; it's literally a block away from English Bay and you can see the beach from the hotel room. The room was clean and nicely decorated with comfortable bedding. We also really appreciated that the hotel is pet friendly. Staff were very accommodating; we arrived at the hotel a few hours prior to check in just to see if we were able to drop our bags off behind the front counter until officially checking in, but they let us check in early so we could be more comfortable. The only downside was that one part of the curtains was cut a bit short and let light in during the morning, so my husband woke up a few hours earlier than he wanted to. Not a massive deal, but if we'd have known we would have packed an eye mask or something to block the light out.

This is probably a 4 start hotel with the location in the Summer. The property is older but has newer amenities. The front desk staff, maintenance and housekeeping were great. We saw maintenance actively working during our stay. The reasons for my average review is that the heating/ac unit in the room (I paid more for, since it was a balcony room with a partial ocean view) was extremely noisy to the point it made it difficult to fall asleep the first night and the room was really COLD. The temperature in room 526 was below 68 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 Celsius and never made it past 67 degrees during our two-night stay and this was with a space heater. It was obvious that the hotel knows about the heating issues since the front desk provided us with a space heater. We saw other space heaters in the hallway the following day as well. The space heater that was provided was not enough to heat the room. The power breaker could not support the main heater and the space heater, so the power breaker tripped twice in the room resulting in us having to call the front desk. The front desk and maintenance quickly remedied the situation, but it was annoying to say the least.

Stayed here for 4 nights before Christmas and everything was as you would expect from a Best Western hotel. Clean, comfortable and friendly efficient staff. Location is great for Stanley Park and the good choice of restaurants on Denman and Robson. Good bus service along Davie stops outside the hotel.

Good news first: excellent location, near the seafront and Stanley Park. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Great for walks. Front desk staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The not so good news: It's an old hotel, and if I saw if from the outside I wouldn't want to book it. However, the rooms, while small, have been redone and are comfortable. (It's easy to see the signs of age, however.) The bar downstairs spills out into the street with a lot of late-night noise/arguing. No in-room safe. Very small bathrooms (although good sized shower). Also expensive for the quality. Would we stay here again? Probably not, especially for more than one night.

Friendly staff, a lovely king room with a great view, a decent pub attached to the hotel, and the beach, bars, restaurants and shops all within a minutes walk from the front door. What more do you need!

Located on David Street just across from English Bay the hotel offers a good selection of rooms. There are lots of restaurants, bars & grocery stores nearby & it is close to Stanley Park. However because it is on a busy street the rooms facing David can also be loud with street noise & from people in the bars on street level below the rooms.

Location, location, location. The hotel is about a 2 minute walk from English Bay and the Seawall walk. If you've never experienced the seawall walk, you're in for a treat. Forest on one side and water on the other. The definition of relaxation. The staff at the hotel, the restaurant and lounge are all well trained, competent, professional and friendly. My room was spotless, spacious and the bed was beyond comfortable. All in all, a totally enjoyable experience.

BWP Sands is a moderately priced (for Vancouver summer ‘23) hotel in the West End of the city. It is a few blocks from English Bay, a lovely beach. Lots of restaurants in the area. Bike rentals, including electric, across the street. The hotel staff were great and the room updated. If you stay 2 nights or and skip housekeeping they give a nice voucher for breakfast at its attached restaurant and breakfast is very hearty. Bathroom appears to have been recently renovated. My only problem, and I brought it up with staff on checkout, was the mattress - it was incredibly soft. I felt like I was in the movie “Get Out”. If you need a firm mattress this might be a risk for you until they complete upgrading all of them.

Stayed here for three nights during our Rocky Mountain trip. The hotel is well situated on the corner of Davie St and Denman St in the English Bay Area. Beach was very near the hotel. Also, The Cactus Club restaurant and The Sylvia hotel, both of which were very good for food. Also the Ferry to Granville Island which had a lovely market and shops was near to the hotel. Our room in the Sands was roomy and beds were very comfortable. Staff were very obliging and breakfast was ok.

The room was very cold at night and early morning and there was no heating The cold air entered through the air con contraption from outside and it was like sleeping in a fridge. The room however was clean and surprisingly quiet although it was in the middle of town. The bathroom was very small and hardly any room for anything much. The sink does not drain properly.

Really, the location is the standout here near English Bay. Bus stops are there, and a pass can be bought at the London drug store nearby. The Cannabis shop and Bike shop and gelato shop and all kinds of places to eat or grocery shop is within walking distance.

Good location. Within walking distance of downtown stores and restaurants.A short drive to Stanley Park and Granville Island. Could use a good cleaning and updated public computer service. Room was comfortable. Parking was cramped.

We were only in Vancouver for a short overnight before heading to the ferry the next morning. We stayed at the BW Sands because we wanted to run around Stanley Park in the morning. The building and rooms were not fancy, but it was clean and met all of our needs. We enjoyed the proximity to restaurants, transportation, and the park.

I was very impressed with this hotel. The staff were very welcoming and everything was clean. It was a hot day and when we entered our room the AC was cranked! It was so nice! The bed and pillows felt very new - I slept like a dream. I found the gentle hum of the AC blocked out any city noise (I noticed when I turned the unit off.) And the location for Pride can't be beat. I'll definitely stay again.

The Marijuana smell was so strong in the hotel restaurant we could not breathe. We went off site to eat even though they gave us a coupon. It needs some TLC for it to be a PLUS hotel. AC made noises and leaked.

We booked this through Authentik Canada. Great position, next to Stanley Park in the middle of downtown Vancouver. Lots of restaurants surrounding the hotel. The hotel is somewhat outdated,but still functional. We had view of the car park. There were two queen size beds. Adequate ensuit.

The hotel room was good enough (I chose the cheapest one), the restaurant/bar was excellent and the hotel is in a great location. Perhaps the only issue is that other apartment buildings have been built opposite the hotel so the drapes end up being closed all the time.

Very walkable neighborhood and amazing staff! We were very impressed with our stay. So close you can walk to the beach. Neighbourhood is quite busy at night. My kids crashed as soon as it was time for bed, but if you have light sleepers, consider asking for a room not facing Davie Street. The location is perfect for walking to the English Bay beach or Robson street. Biking distance to Stanley Park or Granville Island.

Due to travel events, my party of 5 showed up at 2pm. I knew it would happen to be so I called ahead at 1 requesting an early check in. The front desk was dismissive, said “maybe it would be ready” didn't offer to try. I showed up after 2. Same thing. She could only guarantee 4 pm. Because I had reserved a suite those are the last to be cleaned. I waited while the 12 year old girls changed in the lobby and watched 3 other groups get checked in early. As I was leaving o asked again, told still not possible to get me in early. So disappointed. We stay here every year for our annual playland trip. Never again. Renting the most expensive room means you get treated the worst. And of course, she was so rude about it. But helped every man that tried to check in after me. I will write this review everywhere because it is so upsetting. One of my travellers was I'll and we've spent an afternoon nursing her at the park.

Love this hotel! The location is perfect! English Bay near by, great to relax and watch the sunset. Hotel staff all so kind, helpful and professional. Easy access to the bus stops. City Centre / Robson area, all within walking distance. Lots of restaurants, coffee places, convenience stores, pubs, salons, all near by. Our room was very bright and clean. Restaurant / Lounge has a good menu with very tasty food, front staff, nice and efficient to check in / out, room service very well done. Felt very safe in the hotel and the surrounding area.

The Best Western Sands is in a great location, a block from the beach and a short walk to Stanley Park. The room was large and comfortable, and it was very clean. There was quite a bit of street noise at night, which we should have expected but didn't.

We stayed twice in this hotel (three nights each time). It is conveniently located at the end of Davie Street, so you can walk to English Bay Beach in two minutes. You can also walk easily to downtown in thirty minutes. Our king bed room for the first stay was was a bit under what you can expect of a BW Plus (small as part of the surface was taken by the lift and noisy as the air conditioning unit was outdated). For the second stay, we had a two queen beds room much more in line with our expectations (large and with an air conditioning unit of a newer generation). Beds, pillows and bathroom were OK in boths rooms.

Stayed one night in Jan 2023. Winter rate was reasonable about $225 Cdn, but taxes are high which brought the rate to $270. Price included parking ($22 value) and 2 breakfast vouchers at the attached pub & lounge. Breakfast was NOT good, very greasy which had a weird flavor so I wouldn't bother getting the breakfast package, just go 2 doors down to a nice cafe. Starbucks is on the corner as well as several pubs and restaurants. Also you're just across the street from the beach so the hotel location is perfect!. Room was typical, beds comfy, lovely linens and cozy down comforter. Heating system was quiet and even on the lowest temp is was plenty warm enough. Bathroom was small however there's a 2nd sink and vanity outside of the bathroom so it works out well for 2 people. I agree with many other reviews that you do hear people as they walk down the interior hallway, but fortunately our neighbors were quiet once in their rooms. I would recommend staying at this hotel

I have stayed here numerous times before from Alberta and continue to find the staff professional;, friendly and very helpful. Excellent location for walks to English Bay and the any restaurants on Davie, Denman and Robson streets. A very walkable location to get downtown. You can't go wrong by staying at The Sands

The Sands BW+ is in need of upgrading and repair. It has yet to meet the BW+ standard we've become accustomed to at other locations. The staff were all friendly and great. Unfortunately the building itself is in need of tender loving care and lots of upgrades. Our room (#304) windows were single pane and allowed a lot of street noise into the room. Even with all windows closed and the curtains drawn closed we could still hear loud conversations at street level. There is a bathroom extraction fan but no switch to turn it on/off. The bathroom and guest room became saturated with moisture during a shower. Windows accumulated condensation. I'm guessing this is an ongoing problem as there is evidence of mold in the corners of the window sills. Our room had some peeling wallpaper which might be a result of the moisture as well. Although the room was quite clean (thank you cleaning staff!) there was an odd odor emanating from the far corner of the room by the bed. The guest room walls are not yet well sound proofed as we could hear the TV and phone conversations of the next room quite clearly. Beware, there is a $20 fee to park your vehicle overnight in the BW+ parking lot.

This hotel is in a terrific location. Close to the beautiful seawall walk and Stanley Park. Helpful staff and a fairly good attached pub. There are many excellent restaurants nearby as well. The room had all the necessary amenities including a mini fridge. The room was very clean as well.My only issue was that the room was too hot and the thermostat unfortunately had no effect on the temperature. I was visiting during winter after a rare big vancouver snowstorm so perhaps this explains the temperature? I ended up having to use the AC to be able to bear the heat. In January. Overall a great spot for the price and after all, some like it hot!

We stayed 6 nights at this location and were quite happy with the accommodation. Our room was located on the top floor and had a nice balcony. It had more than enough space for us, two travelers who pack pretty light. The mini fridge and microwave were very useful, wifi speed was fast, and the front desk staff were always helpful and kind. We chose to decline the housekeeping service and in return, we received vouchers that could be used at either of the 2 connected bar/pub establishments (we encountered no issues when redeeming them at either place). The hotel is a short walk from Stanley Park and is also conveniently located to a lot of dining & shopping businesses. There were only a couple of minor cons: our bed was a bit uncomfortable and only 1 of the 2 elevators worked during most of our stay. All in all, I would still choose to stay at this BW location again!

Despite having pre-paid for the room, and calling to explain that it was a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law, the staff at the Registration desk insisted on calling me to explain why I was not the person checking in, despite the person called having said she would note on the reservation that someone other than the person who reserved the room was the one checking in. Upon checkout, the person at the Registration desk (Madur?) insisted that my sister-in-law pay the pre-paid charges.

We booked a room at the accommodation over Christmas this year. Unfortunately, our flight was cancelled by the airline due to the snowstorm in Vancouver. We understand of course that it's downtime for the accommodation as well, but to not make an exception here is quite a shame. Even if we had wanted to, we would not have been able to fly, and not having any understanding for this is very sad. That's why I can't recommend booking here.

The hotel is on Davie St. It's walking distance to Denman St. and Robson St which has alot of restaurants to choose from. It's by the English bay and near Stanley Park. Amazing location. It's one false creek boat away to Granville Island! Will definitely stay at this place again. Without a doubt :)

The place had all the basic amenities, room was very clean and organized, staff was very friendly and it was easy to locate the the place.I had trouble with parking, it is at the back of hotel and is paid, very close just behind the hotel and has easy entrance towards the lobby.

The staff were exceptional @ the property. Location was the best with easy access to where we wanted to be. The room was average. Heating & water issues. The price we paid was double or more from when we initially looked @ the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, we had no choice as most properties were sold out in our price range. Definitely felt gauged on the price. The property was nothing to write home about, but the location was great.

Several years ago, I stayed at the BW plus Sands when they were in the middle of renovation. This time, I got to enjoy a truly modern and beautifully appointed hotel. Food was good. Staff was very pleasant. I chose the hotel both times because of its location close to my Canadian friends. Both the hotel and my friends had improved with age.

We stayed just one night at this hotel, after arriving in Vancouver on The Canadian, the VIA train from Toronto-Vancouver. We arrived quite early, as the train gets in at 8AM. The desk clerk, Sam, did a wonderful job of getting us an early check-in at about 9:30AM. My mother hadn't slept well on the train and was quite tired, she was asleep within 10 minutes of getting into the room. The location is wonderful, at the foot of Davie Street, less than a block from the beach at English Bay. There are lots of great places nearby to go for walks. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed one night at the hotel and found everything to our satisfaction. The location near the beach and Stanley Park meant we could make the most of our stay. Queries regarding the use of gift travelcards (the use of which were not clear on the reservation site) was handled well and without hassle by the reception staff member.

If you're planning on spending time in Stanley Park, then this is the perfect location for you. The hotel is a across the street from where you can access Stanley Park and there are plenty of food options (On site restaurant, Safeway, London Drug, restaurants, fast food, etc) around that are within walking distance. Across the street is a bike rental shop and the hotel is walking distance to a lot of shopping as well. The front desk staff and housekeeping were very courteous, friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. The shower was excellent with great water pressure and a shower wand. The only con for me was the elevators were small and a little slow when busy, but that would not stop my from staying here. I would definitely stay here again.

Much better than my last review, due to upgraded room and total a bit less busy. Staff we're very helpful and everything worked this time. Great location but parking is still a challenge. On-site bar/restaurant a great convenience but really busy and noisy in the evening.

So close to English Bay Beach that it feels like holiday immediately. Many restaurants and shops around the corner too. We loved our stay at the hotel. Personnel is friendly and adequate throughout the hotel, including bar/pub.

Great quality for money hotel, location is perfect for exploring Vancouver. Hotel rooms are spacious, clean and well stocked. We arrived early and there was no trouble leaving our luggage until check in, also when we checked out, our flight was late so we were able to store our luggage.

I looked at a lot of hotels in Vancouver and it was one of the cheaper/nice option that stood out, so I booked for a post Alaska. cruise stay. I was not disappointed! The room was spacious and a stone throw away from Stanley Park and Grandville Island. There is a mini fridge and a microwave and a full size shower with a great shower head that has lots of options, which was great for some massage after being on a bike for a full day exploring Stanley Park. Breakfast downstairs was great (paid) with gluten free options which was great as I have Celiac disease. No complaint here, room in working order, comfy beds / pillows and fast internet makes this place an overall enjoyable stay.

I just had a our wedding reception there, everything was perfect from the suite, the space in the pub, the food was excellent, the staff was so friendly and helpful. I love this place and the location is amazing. I also had my 50th birthday there and I spend a few staycation nights there on numerous occasions, I love it.

Power in bathroom went out four times during the one night say making it hard to see or use utilities. Extremely noisy stay, even eat plugs unable to eliminate noise well. Staff very insensitive towards the matter. Hotel was very expensive for having no electricity and being noisy. Would not stay again.

Easily, the strongest asset of this hotel is its location. English Bay's beach is just around the corner, and Stanley Park is just 3 blocks away. There are plenty of great restaurants in easy walking distance, and you can even walk to Granville Island quite easily. The staff are excellent; friendly, and extremely helpful. Many of the bar staff were not sure how to process a guest taking a couple drinks to their room, but it always got figured out in the end. The hotel itself shows its age, and is fairly cramped, though it appears to have been quite nicely upgraded. A few maintenance quirks. We stayed here three nights before heading to Vancouver Island, then again for one night on the way back. The first time, we found a chisel in the closet. The second time, the blinds in the room appeared to have been damaged and didn't work properly.

Excellent location right across the road from English Bay. Hotel room was clean and quiet. Hotel check in staff were extremely polite and helpful. Great restaurant at the hotel. As a Best Western Rewards Member, I recently thought it would be nice to have a staycation at the Best Western Plus Sands on Davie St in mid-September. I called the hotel to book a particular room type that I saw in their website, one that had a partial view of the water and was on a premium floor. After some discussion of room availability, I was told they could not guarantee that reservation, but would make a note of my request. It then occurred to me that I would be making a "general" reservation for a room. I would arrive at the front desk of the hotel and then be assigned to a room. No guarantee of getting the room type that I wanted to book - but at the same time, required to guarantee my stay with a credit card. When I asked what rooms were available on the dates I wanted to stay, they couldn't say. I also realised that the hotel has a 48 hour cancellation policy, so it was entirely possible that I would be forced to accept the room they assigned at check in or be penalised by the cancellation policy which is 48 hours before check in. In any event, the risk of not knowing which room type I would be expected to accept at check in was too much for me. We booked our preferred room type at another hotel, including a view of the water, a balcony and a premium floor location.

I've been a best western loyal customer for well over 15 years and it's been awhile since I felt like I needed to say something about one of my stays, however this particular stay was one of the worst I've experienced in many years. Upon arriving I was “greeted” by a front desk person who thanked me in a robotic voice for being a gold status loyal customer. He didn't smile once and handed me one bottle of warm water despite the fact it was one of the hottest days in August and there were 4 people staying in our room. I asked him if we could get an early check in and he responded with “check in is at 4pm.” We came back around 3pm to see if the room might be ready as I've never had a check in at any best western I've stayed at later than 2pm. I was told again check in is at 4pm. To my surprise we weren't given the room until 4pm on the dot. We were going to a concert that night and weren't able to charge our phones long enough to get a full charge and as a result we (4 girls) couldn't get a Lyft using our phones and had to walk several km before finding a cab at 1am after the concert ended. When we got back to the hotel we realized that my request for extra shampoo and conditioner as well as extra blankets was ignored. In fact there was only shampoo in the washroom. We asked for extra blankets and one thin blanket was brought up to the room. At 9am housekeeping was already knocking at the door to get in and right outside the door at noon as we left. It made us wonder why we would have to wait until 4pm to get in if they were in such a rush so early in the morning to prepare the room. As well the towel holder kept falling off the wall. For a BW plus this place really fell short. I'll never stay at this location again and this experience has made me question my loyalty to the best western chain altogether. I'll more than likely cash in all my points and use them to spend on Amazon and switch hotel chains.

I am a Diamond Elite member. Don't waste your money at this location. Find another hotel or AirBNB it. The do not offer any sort of continental breakfast and the gym is worse than a 1970 YMCA with half the equipment out of order. Bring a window cleaner if you want to see any view out of your window.

Right beside very large Stanley Park where you can hike,bike ride,carriage ride, swim, Par 3 golf. Lots of eating establishments all within short walking distance. Super convenient to the Public transportation system(bus) that can easily get to any part of the city including the Canada line which gets you to the airport. Bus stops right at the hotel....can't get any closer than that.

Nice hotel with helpful staff. Room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant next door was great for breakfast. Hotel located near beach and good restaurants, but the train station and cruise terminal are too far away to walk.

It was a basic 3.5 star hotel but in a great location just one block to a scenic beach, Stanley Park trail system and some nice pubs. Less commercialized that the downtown area. If you want something “laid back”, then this was a fun and safe option. Value was great, plus there is a Safeway and beer store in the same block.

Location is the best! Very accessible from the airport (train and bus #6 just under the hotel. There is AC, the best thing we had as it was 32 degrees in Vancouver that day. Room service was great and friendly, we even got to stay a bit extra, helped us a lot with traveling.

Great location. Close to the beach, restaurants, amenities, Robson St and Denton St. Loved the food at the restaurant and the staff were awesome. Internet service was great. We were lucky to staying over the weekend when the Honda fireworks competition occurred. The streets were so crowded but it was awesome to be staying so close.

Stayed at the Best Western Sands And ate in their restaurant The Park Pub. Just the worst service. Hardly anyone in the restaurant but no server came for ages all while the manager was there. When the food came the omelette was almost burnt.

We were here for 2 nights before embarking on an alaskan cruise. The English Bay Area is great! Blocks to the water, lots of stores/restaurants. Easy access to Stanley Park. The hotel is somewhat old, but room was clean and bed comfortable. Had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs and it was good. Staff was friendly and helpful. There is a Mobi bike share location nearby which we found great to explore the area.

Stay here if you want to be close to the action. This hotel is located around all amenities, restaurants, bars, shopping, and also steps away from beautiful Stanley Park! We loved the location of this hotel and would definitely stay here again!

Our hotel room was very clean. The staff were very helpful. The location was perfect! We were walking distance to the beach, restaurants from around the world, bike rentals, bike path, and hop-on-hop-off bus stop #4. Plus there was an ice cream shop and a gelato shop close by. We were happy!

The hotel was really well positioned close to the English Bay beach. Perfect for a walk around Stanley Park. Sadly the hotel is very old and tired. The lift creaked and groaned - one staff member telling us that it had only been fixed recently after a long time out of order. The room air conditioner was extremely noisy and appeared to be on its last legs. Very over priced. You're paying for the location not the hotel.

The staffs there are super nice , location is good , in the downtown. There is a bus No.5 can go to the Canada place , then get the free shuttle to Capilano Suspension Bridge.. It is so hard to use the elevator in there .. 地理环境超好，步行20分钟以内可以到达很多好的餐馆（日本，韩国，越南..） 但是对于第一次来的人来说，停车位不好找，每个晚上还需要20加币.. 房内的卫生感觉不是很干净…… 步行几分钟就到达英吉利海峡，很多人在沙滩看日落.

We are from another city and drove to the hotel to stay two nights as other hotels close by were already booked and full(06/23/24). We knew where this hotel was located at Denman and Davie St. just two blocks or less from famous English Bay. We have for years each summer stayed in a close by heritage hotel and one other on Davie St. and have traveled extensively and still do. The front counter area is a little small but I think her name was Alyson(Chinese girl, had glasses),with a smile took us. She was very efficient, cordial, and gave us a partial view of English Bay, second floor. The room 226 looked clean, up dated, and had a air conditioner. The room a cool temperature with air on. The outside windows should be washed or cleaned, as covered with dust. No windows opened. The air conditioner had to be turned off as just too loud for sleeping. Could be changed to a newer model. There is a little central air to use, much better. The room large enough, two queen beds. I could not read my book in bed as not enough lighting. Tried moving a coroner light but cord too short. Should have brought one! Also NO night table on wall side, for books, drink, night meds ect. This has been mentioned in reviews I read before coming to hotel. Must have one table for two people in a bed! Enough room items for showers, washes. Beds had comforter on them, okay. We woke up at 5,6 am as people slamming room doors. But do not blame them, ours was very tight, too hard to close, and made unnecessary noise when leaving/closing. They even have a fitness room. There is five floors and only this top floor has a balcony, street side. The rear rooms, alley are much quieter I am told. No balcony in the back rooms. One elevator did not work, and yes very slow one did. One of our room, elevator cards did not work, but no problem getting a new one. The location if you have read TA reviews is great for tourists. But beware you are on a nightly party street area, lots of young people gathering, people and traffic noise can get loud even the pubs have very loud music. we heard the noise till 12pm. Great for bus pick ups, taxi, stop and go bus, also tourists on buses get a very nice breakfast at the Park pub/restaurant just off the lobby. Heidi Bridson catering manager met us for breakfast and what a very nice lady and so up beat in the early am. My wife sure thought she was special and gave us a great quality breakfast. Their is a dinner restaurant, pub just beside this hotel, connected and good views. Parking is 20. normal for other hotels in area. Always got a parking spot even when touring the city parks. There is tourist info cards, maps ect in lobby which is appreciated. Staff front counter are friendly I noticed, tks. Hotel in walking distance approx. 1/2 mile along English Bay walk way to a little ferry to Grandville Is. shops and famous wharf pub/restaurant. Only 5. for ferry ride both ways, wow! We likely will be back again this summer as now we know more details about the rooms and hotel and restaurants. Will tell our friends about the nice location and restaurants in safe walking area. (Longbeach).

Very clean, all stuff extremely friendly and helpful, good quality mattress guaranty good sleep, perfect location by beach and by Denman street with great food and active night life, will stay definitely again.

Older hotel but the room was adequate and not much for noise. Slept with the window open slightly and had no problems. And I am a light sleeper. The staff where spot on. Did not lack for anything, Restaurant downstairs that has a small patio. Friendly staff there too and yummy food. Close to the beach for sunset watching. Excellent location close to everything in the west end with local bus right outside the door that will take you anywhere you want to go for #3. Great perk!

Checked many hotels in the shopping & entertainment district of Vancouver, and this was by far the best rate & location for a room with 2 queen beds. Not the most spacious room, but comfortably fit 2 adults and 2 teens with a lot of luggage due to the LARGE closet (with 2 luggage racks) and DEEP bay window (which held suitcases easily). Called a week prior to request an EARLY check in as we would debark our cruise at 8am. We were accommodated and resting in our room by 9:15! Updated decor, very clean (I check!) , strong WiFi, wide selection of TV channels. The Pub restaurant breakfast was a pleasant surprise: ordered eggs over medium and they were cooked perfectly (a rarity!) The Crab Benny (eggs Benedict with crab cake) was a taste sensation! Although the Pub was quite busy & loud in the evening, our first floor room was very quiet. Walking distance to several excellent restaurants (Legendary Noodle was a delight, Starbucks is next door) and English Bay beach, and a short cab ride to most of Vancouver's attractions. Highly recommend!

I spent 4 nights her with family members and found the hotel to have the perfect situation to everything in the West End. Restaurants, bars, beach activities, Stanley Park, all within walking distance. The hotel was recently renovated and the rooms are very nicely done. Comfy beds and good wifi. We only ate in the restaurant once and the breakfast was very good. The downside was very large portions and we felt bad wasting so much food. We found the Sands a very good option compared to others in the area.

We stayed here for two nights. The room was incredibly clean and comfortable. The main downside about the room was noise on our floor. We were told about quiet hours at check-in, but perhaps others were not, or did not care. Others we were traveling with on a different floor said their floor was also noisy. Luckily that was just an issue our first night. The proximity to Stanley Island was fantastic, and there is a bike rental place almost directly across the street. Lots of restaurants in the area. For those, we loved the location. What we did not like about the location was the smell of pot whenever we left the hotel - there were several marijuana-related stores very close to the hotel. Not sure if it is any different in other parts of the city. If we go back we would consider staying in a different neighborhood because of that. But everything else (other than the noise) was great - friendly staff, clean, comfortable room.

This was a great location in Vancouver, a few minutes walk from English Bay and many restaurants nearby. It's also close to the airport (about 20 min ride) and close to main downtown areas in Vancouver (ie 10 min drive to waterfront and Gastown). Friendly and helpful staff, and the room was clean and comfortable.

Great location, great staff (Alyson, Tina & Nico) and very comfortable! Clean hotel and awesome rooms with great coffee! The adjacent restaurant has excellent food and staff, as well. Jimmy and Dana were awesome! The park is right across the street and there are plenty of options for shopping and dining within walking distance. I will definitely stay here again. Fantastic hotel for the price!

We came to Vancouver for a celebration of life that was delayed 2years due to Covid! It was held in this same hotel and I must say we were all treated with the outmost respect! Service was above and beyond! Thank you BW Sands! I have had the pleasure of dealing with this hotel for over 40 years and have always been happy,

The only real gripe I would have with the hotel is there is no breakfast included in the room price. Other than that this is a great hotel in a fantastic location in Vancouver - basically within walking distance of English Bay and thus Stanley Park. The hotel room we had for 4 adults and a 15 year old was spacious and comfortable - it was our first (and only) night in Vancouver after a long flight from the UK and it was great that the room had plenty of space. My son slept on the sofa-bed and said this was comfortable Going back to the breakfast we had breakfast in the hotel in the morning and whilst we had to pay for it the food was excellent and the service fantastic. Overall we really enjoyed our very brief stay at this hotel and would recommend to other travellers.

Every time we come to Vancouver, this is where we stay. The staff are super friendly, the rooms are spotless, the view of English Bay is amazing and everything is within walking distance. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking to be close to the ocean and seawall.

The location was perfect. We were a few footsteps away from beach and several restaurants. The Sands provided an amazing view from balcony and was a walk away from all the point of interested and nicest restaurant in Vancouver. However because of the location it is really noisy at night time and morning.

not good, water was cold, staff did not make beds, the sleeps basically screwed up my neck, you can hear noise at night from outside, and the bill was paid at the end of my stay with a tonne of additional fees on the top which made my stay very expensive. Price wise I would have been better off at a Marriot.

We had a great stay minus a few things: the shower water was cold the whole time. We reached out on our second morning of experiencing cold water to see if maintenance could turn up the water heat, but nothing seemed to change. And we experienced cold water again the next morning, and too cold to shower our last morning there. In addition the room across from ours seemed to have been under construction or maybe a maintenance room, where we could hear workers as early as 6:30am-7am starting work and talking extremely loud which woke us up for two mornings in a row - and I'll add it was both Saturday and Sunday mornings. I've stayed here before an had an excellent experience, but it seemed to have fallen short this time. When we made note of these things at checkout we were simply offered a breakfast voucher. Granted it was something, just wish something else could have been done to compensate for those inconveniences.

In short, power to half our room was out. Food in the mini fridge had to be thrown out. We called the front desk for support and were told over and over that they were resetting breakers. On approx the 4th call to the front desk I was put on hold. After 12 min I had my partner go down to the front desk to investigate while I remained on hold. The front desk personnel had me on hold while he was on a personnel cell phone call. After spoken with by my partner about respect, we were upgraded to a new room. The room was nice, but the interaction left a bad taste and was not as enjoyable afterwards. Showers were cold our entire stay. Many other guests told us they were experiencing the same issues with no support.

This hotel is always my first choice when staying in Vancouver. The rooms are clean, the staff are very friendly and accommodating and the location is excellent. It is within walking distance to Stanley Park, Grandville ferries, shopping and restaurants.

The Hotel is located in the heart of literally everything. Perfect spot for tourist because all the bars, restaurants, and even the Stanley Park are all in walking distance. The room was very clean and the staff was super nice too.

Pretty much everything youd expect from a busy downtown 3 star hotel. Staff was fairly friendly. Room was loud, has some trash from other guests, defenitely not the worst hotel. But you can tell they are a busy place from the wear and tear on virtually everything

I had for the most part of the stay a decent time. Best part of the room I had was the shower. Cut to the chase: why the poor review. Mice. There were frigg'n mice in and under the bed. Alive and dead! When I was packing up, I looked under the bed to see if anyof my things had fallen under. I saw a box that could have been something that I dropped. I reached for the box and when I grabbed it, the box shrieked. It moved as did several other objects. MICE. I've been sleeping with rodents the whole time. Some were trapped in the box dead for a few days at least. One managed to chew its leg off. I hate mice as much as the next person. But sticky traps are cruel. They shouldn't be left there for a guest to discover and left unchecked for as long as they did. The fellas at the desk couldn't care less. (Wait, sorry. That was a lie....they gave me half price on my parking. Which in my opinion is more shocking than the mice.) I was then shooed away from the desk to get me kit the door. I do not recommend this place. Unless you love mice or travel with cats.

Bizarre and somewhat rude and patronizing check-in experience by a young employee who went over all the hotel's many rules and regulations including “no guests after 8pm” which seemed somewhat old fashioned and homophobic, somehow. What's more, there was zero attempt to accommodate my room preference and it was apparent I was just “lucky” to get any room before the designated check-in time. Also be aware there is no room cleaning offered at this hotel. The location is good but it's more of a motel experience than a hotel. I would definitely choose the Sylvia over this!

this best western is conveniently located near english bay beach which i loved going to.... also right acrooss the street is FRESH SLICE delcious pizza a must try.... they have a restaurant on site i did not try, walking distance to alot of great things, beds were comfortable, roo was a bit small but a nice view of the ocean!!! overall an EXCELLENT place to stay!!!!

Alright, I'm changing my initial review from 5 stars to 1. here's why- I called the front desk around 8:00 pm on 02/09/2022 asking for a corporate rate on a room. The gentleman at the front desk quoted me roughly $120 for a night. I told him i would check with my colleague, and call him back. I called him back exactly 2 mins and 34 seconds later, and he then tells me that 15 different people had called him within that 2 and a half min buffer and all created reservations so the rate is now $214. Now i know that this is absolutely ridiculous and a straight up lie as I myself was a front desk agent for several years not too long ago, so I know that's absolutely not how it works. At this point I ask to speak with the manager. He tells me he is the manager (another lie, I confirmed this with another agent this morning asking who the MOD was last night at 8:00 pm and he told me it was a woman and the gentleman was a GSA.) To the GSA who thought he can drive his sales with greed and dishonesty- do better.- Its people like him who make such wonderful hotels look disgusting and dishonest. I really love staying here every time i come down to the city so I'm extremely disappointed and repulsed with how the employees have been trained to drive sales based off greed and thinking all guests are just stupid enough to not question them on their lies. Perhaps management could look into teaching their employees a different approach to sales? Greed wasn't exactly the selling point for me.

This hotel is in a prime location in the west end. The rooms have recent upgrades and feel very clean and well maintained. Nothing too fancy, but a decent place to lay down and sleep… internet works well enough for streaming, the bar downstairs has decent food and drink selection. I've stayed here a few times, and the staff have always been excellent.

Great location close to English Bay, Stanley Park, restaurants and shopping. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed was a little too soft and there was outside noise from the street and hallway. Overall, good value and experience.

Great location to Stanley Park Seawall, grocery stores, restaurants and liquor store. We feel good value tor money and now the rooms have been updated as well. There is a restaurant in the hotel which we didn't use (due to COVID) but in the past they've always had decent food. Also, important is on-site parking. Hotel staff are very friendly.

We noticed that some renovations have been done since we last stayed here, notably in the bathrooms. Of course COVID protocols are in place making for a safer stay. The building is old as was evidenced when a cold snap happened: the heating system couldn't keep the room warm. A workaround was that the front desk arranged for a space heater to be dropped off in our room. Note: maid service is only to pick up garbage and deliver towels. An annoyance was that the drive through from Davie Street is now blocked so you have to approach from behind the hotel.

The hotel is well kept for an older hotel. The service of the desk staff is exceptional, helpful and polite. During COVID it is more difficult to rate room services etc but I believe they are going above normal in their Covid precautions and it makes one feel very comfortable to be in their rooms at this time. Spent almost 2 weeks at the hotel and would certainly recommend it.

The location was great! We could either walk to nearby sights and restaurant or take a bus to downtown Vancouver. The only downside was that my husband felt the bed was too soft which made his back hurt.

We really enjoyed our stay thanks to exceptional service from David at the front door. The location was great for walking on the sea wall and restaurants. The only downside was the noise from Davie but that's the trade off for location. I would stay here again for sure.

The hotel is great, the heating in the rooms in December was so high we couldn't sleep, I had to put the AC on because we could reduce the heater. We had two rooms and both were the same so this was not just a single room issue.

Quiet, conveniently located inn is located just steps from English Bay along with a variety of coffee shops and eateries. The entire hotel team, from housekeeping to front desk, were helpful and friendly. We'll definitely return!

This was a great mini staycation I glad we picked this hotel. Excellent location, restaurant was accommodating and great value, location was fantastic and convenient for walking around the area. Would stay again.

Good location to Stanley Park and Downtown if you don't mind a 20 minute stroll, check out CRAFT bar around the corner. I stayed in both a premium king with a balcony and a standard twin queen on the first floor. Both were 100% for the room - aside from one lamp not working. Can be cold if you choose to sleep by the window and you can quite clearly hear outside traffic on the first floor if thats the thing that bothers you. The only improvement I can think of would be to have the plugs (currently integrated into the lamps) in a different position as I was unable to easily fit my travel adaptors in.

After being Covid travel restricted for 18 months we took a 3 day pre-Xmas getaway to Vancouver. We chose the sands on Davie St for its location - close to Stanley Park and English Bay. We initially had planned a downtown 5 star hotel but changed our mind after reading the reviews of the latter vs those of the Sands. Yes, it is a 3* vs 5*, but don't regret our decision for a moment. The rooms were super clean, the Covid precautions were excellent, the food was great, but the staff were EXCEPTIONAL and deserve a mention for making us feel welcome! Heidi's cheerful voice for breakfast in the restaurant, Tina and Hung's attention the detail at the desk for our room change, David at the door and Jimmy, also in the restaurant, deserve a mention. We shall return!

Best Western Sands on Davie is a great choice if you are staying in downtown Vancouver. Rooms are spacious and clean. Priced reasonably for the area. It is close to everything. I stay here whenever I am in Vancouver.

Most reviews for this hotel focus the amenities available due to its location. But what about the hotel? The address entrance is blocked so we had to drive down the back alley to get to the hotel. Thankfully another reviewer pointed this out. Our first room had an uncomfortable bed with no side support. A constant ticking sound all night kept both of us awake. We requested and got another room and better sleep the next night. Both rooms had been upgraded but in the second room the bathroom door would not close properly. At check out we were charged more for the second room. The staff were very helpful and we did get some refund. This hotel should not be called a Plus which usually means a better level. If you get the right room, this hotel is ok.

This particular property has undergone renovations last year to update and refresh the room decor. The staff are very friendly, professional and don't make you think that you are bothering them with a question you may have. Every team member from front desk staff to maintenance and housekeeping always make a point of greeting you in passing. The housekeepers even ask if we are satisfied with our room and if there is anything that we need for example extra pillows or coffee and tea and even towels and garbage removal. If you are looking for a hotel to stay at that is near shopping and multicultural restaurants this is where you would want to stay. Not to mention that sunset is beautiful to watch from the balcony. It is also a great place to walk as you can pretty much get to most places in 20 minutes or so.

The sands is the best place to experience what Vancouver has to offer. Surround yourself in the diverse, vibrant, energetic community of the West End. Steps to the beach and Stanley Park. Dozens of food choices. Transit connections to anywhere.

Nice location if you don't want to be right downtown. Right by English Bay, great place if the weather is good. Close to Stanley park and lot of restaurants to pick from . If you dont have a car bus transportation is right at the door step, pr bike rentals.

This hotel was located in English Bay near to a lot of restaurants and the beach. It is easy to walk to downtown or Stanley Park etc Staff were great, they even loaned umbrellas when it rained. The room was comfortable and had fridge, microwave, coffee maker etc and they had on-site parking. It would have been ideal if breakfast was included.

Stayed for one night. The rooms are remodeled but the hotel itself shows its age. The windows and heaters are older/dirtier and hallways still had a bit of the old hotel smell. Parking is outside in the back which is open to the public so not the assuring feeling of under ground parking or controlled access parking you see at other hotels down town. Was also quite loud from street noise.

The staff were amazing. We couldn't get the tv to work and it was fixed right away. We rented bikes and they kept them in a storage room for us. Anytime we needed anything they were happy to help. Great location and would definitely stay here again!

During my holiday to BC, I stayed at the Best Western Plus Sands in Vancouver. The hotel is a $35 taxi ride from the airport. The hotel staff were great. All my interactions with them were very positive. There was no daily housekeeping due to Covid, but you could request it when required. My room was clean and had all the amenities. The surrounding area was teeming with local restaurants of all different styles and ethnicities. Some of the ones I tried were Brazilian, Indian, English Pub, and a craft brewery. All were good. If you don't want to leave the hotel, the attached restaurant was also very good whether it was breakfast, lunch or supper . There was also a Safeway, Liquor Store, and London Drugs close by. English Bay and its beach was only 5 mins away. Stanley Park was close by. Just walking through the surrounding area was refreshing. Lots of history there if you get off the main drags. My only sore point was the parking. I was visiting my brother in the Okanagan and had to park my rental at the hotel for a night. First there was a $20 parking charge which is normal for a downtown hotel. However, the entrance from Davie Street was blocked off. I had to drive around to a small service road behind the hotel. It was crowded with service vehicles. The underground parking was at the lobby level but was small and narrow, hard to maneuver with a larger car. The outdoor parking lot was more spacious. However you have to use a narrow set of stairs to get down to the lobby level to enter the hotel. Not bad unless you have luggage. Having said that, I enjoyed my stay at Sands. I would stay there again.

Nice budget friendly hotel right at English Bay. Denman street is just around the corner with food joints and pubs. The West End is close to most things Vancouver. Stanley Park is 2 minutes walk away.

very clean room, very good location, good breakfast in hotel's restaurant for a good price, helpful desk staff, walking distance to the Vancouver's beach, close to downtown, we had partial view of the ocean!!

The best thing about this hotel is its location - near English Bay Beach - indeed, we had a partial view of the beach and bay from our third floor window. The price was good. The hotel is a little worn, but it's clean, comfortable and everything worked well. Staff were friendly and attentive.

We booked the King Balcony room because the photos advertised showed an ocean view. We were on the fence and that was the only reason we spent the extra money to book it. When we found that our room didn't have a view of the ocean at all, we didn't make a big deal of it but asked to switch rooms to one with a view or downgrade (nbd) but were told none of them had that view and we weren't allowed to downgrade. To make things worse, the walls are so thin and you can hear everything that's being said. We could hear a phone ring a few rooms down…. The water also doesn't get so only come if you're okay with cold showers!! We will hand it to them, the location is really nice and they did allow us to check in early so our experience wasn't all bad… but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. In fact, I would recommend not staying here

Stay here if you like: paper thin walls where you can hear every private conversation of your neighbours, 1 ply bathroom tissue, soap that makes your skin sticky, terrible concierge service, misleading photos, construction noise (no fault of the hotel, but the windows also block out zero noise). Appears way nicer online, do not book here.

My daughter and I are originally from Alberta. We took one week off to spend in Vancouver. We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the beach and comparable pricing. We fully enjoyed our stay, every employee is friendly, attentive and accommodating, rooms are comfortable, clean and renovated. We were really impressed with the breakfast offered by the restaurant. I'd definitely recommend this place to others.

This hotel was exactly what we needed. The location is great. You can walk to the beach in just a few minutes and Starbucks is very close as well. The room was fairly standard but it was totally fine. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

We recently stayed at the Best Western Sands on Davies Street in Vancouver and had a very enjoyable stay. The location is fantastic - close to the beach, to shopping, great food options and transportation . We will stay there again.

Stayed with family for a couple nights. Room was clean. Room was on the west side of hotel and had a partial beach and ocean view. Parking was tight and if you show up late you likely will not get a spot.

The location was great. It was close to a beach, the aquarium, restaraunts and shops. Finding the parking lot required a phone call and parking was terrible. You pay per day and you are lucky to park within half a block of the hotel. The room has the basics. It wasn't anything fancy or high end. You can tell there has been renos but not everywhere. There is no breakfast offered and the hotel restaraunt doesn't open until noon. The front desk staff was super friendly at check in and pretty good at check out.

Very happy with our stay. Would recommend without hesitation. Staff was nice, polite and helpful without being overwhelming. Wonderful Location! A few steps away from beach and tons of restaurants. Close to drug store, coffee house and grocery store. Had a small fridge and microwave in the room which we very much appreciated. We were also lucky to get a room with a nice view of the water and sunset. Beautiful! From time to time a little noisy in the hallway, but wouldn't last long. Just a bunch of friends excited to hit the beach or the town. All good ! We definitely plan to be back !

If you want a clean, simple hotel, that puts you right in the action, this is it. Right off English Bay, you have two minute access to the beach, the sea wall, and all the great eats on Denham Street. Stanley Park is a five minute walk. Bikes for rent right across the street, Starbucks next door, Safeway a block away… was so pleased with our choice of hotels.

great staffs, super friendly, super helpful, went above and beyond in my opinion, room was clean, toilet was clean, great check in service and check out. would book again!!! Location was amazing too, close to English bay and stanley park!

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and we loved the location. Few minute walk to Stanly park and other places in the city. There is a bike rental shop right infront of the hotel. Our room was a suite and it was very well furnished. Nice decor and very clean. Our only complaint was the poor sound insulation. The building is old and the windows have not been replaced for a long time. So there is street noise that comes up. But worse than that was the door that separates connecting rooms which has more than 1" gap at the bottom. If you bend down, you can see the feet of the people in the next room. Needless to say, all conversation can be clearly heard as if your neighbors are sitting with you in your suite. This is not acceptable. The hotel should consider to fully insulate those connecting doors. I do travel quite often and it's the worse I've seen.

This is great place to stay and tour around Greater Vancouver. The ocean is close, LOTS to do and see. You could park and walk, take the sky train, public transit, for the rest of your stay. Good eats all around. You will not be bored!

We stayed here for our 35th Wedding Anniversary. With the travel restrictions lifted, and having been at home for 18 months this was a nice getaway. The location is excellent for anything you would like to do whether it be walking, renting bikes, shopping or just laying by the beach listening to the waves wash the shore.The hotel was clean and the staff made us feel safe. We'll be sure to visit this place again. Thanks for a memorable weekend.

Great, helpful staff. Nice clean modern updates. The location was awesome- close to everything. I do recommend staying mountain side in the summer as oceanview can get very hot when the sun sets. (There's no need for balcony as there is no where to sit on because of all the gulls.) Our family really enjoyed our stay.

If I could give BW 100 stars I would. I was absolutely pleased with our stay and the staff were all very helpful and polite and went out of their way to make our stay amazing. Great stay, great location.

I am ashamed that we stayed here and embarrassed that we blessed the owner with any of our hard earned money.the look is renovated but it's very old and we can't use the bathroom because it was very bad smell there and the staff didn't do anything, PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE THAT WE DID!

Comfy beds awesome location but bathroom door did not close properly and the bathroom was extremely small and awkward - needs a better toilet - there was only one operating elevator and it was not clean. The exterior of hotel is dirty and almost shabby. Lobby bathrooms much superior to the one in our room. Air conditioning too loud and generally hotel presented as worn out.

My 82-year-old father stayed at this hotel with very limited knowledge of English. I was worried that it will be a problem but turned out staff went out of their way to accommodate my dad and were very helpful. Unfortunately, I don't know the names of the Front Desk staff but they were all amazing. THANK YOU very much for looking after my Dad. He will definitely return.

I booked a stay through a third-party website, I made the mistake of booking a day later than when we arrive. The booking was non-refundable and you were not allowed to change it unless you were able to get an exception from the hotel. I still wanted to stay at the hotel and was only asking to change my booking by one day. They said they tried, but that it was not possible due to booking it through a third-party website. I explained that I talked to Expedia and they would make an exception after getting an OK from the hotel. However, the manager was unwilling to work with me and Expedia to make the one-day change. While I understand Expedia's rules they were still willing to help and it leaves a bad impression that the Best Western Plus Sands was not.

I have no complaints that are about the hotel. Some loud people on the street below my window but the hotel and staff were great. I didn't sleep well but that was due to my child sleeping way to close to me lol

I stay at the best western sands everytime I have appointments in Vancouver. It's a five minute drive yo saint Paul's hospital. The hotel is a three minute walk to the beach. And there's a Starbucks on the corner to get a coffee and sit at the beach .the hotel is very clean and the beds are comfortable.the staff is very helpful and the area is very safe to walk around in Vancouver .lots of restaurants in the area I give it a 10/10 for location cleanliness and comfort

My wife and I stayed only 1 night, When we arrived we were told that parking was not included and that it was an additional fee. Something that should have been clearly stated in the confirmation or on the website during booking that Parking was extra. The Parking stalls are VERY skinny so if you have a truck like I do it fills the space and then some. The lobby has two elevators but only one was working and due to COVID only one group could use it at a time. so there was LONG waits at the elevator The Key Cards that were issued did not work so I have to wait for the elevators again and then get them re-programed and wait for the elevators again to get back to the room. We were on the top floor away from the elevator with a balcony with partial harbour view. BUT the room next to us was a family with young children that were extremely noisy. The walls in this hotel are very thin and you can hear everything that the next room is saying. Through the night there was something on the roof making a metalic sound that because it was really windy outside was waking me up The next morning when we woke up the floor by the sliding glass door to the balcony was wet. I could only assume that the heater/airconditioner leaked all over the floor because it had not rained. The hallway carpets outside the rooms were filthy and in need of updating. You could tell that they had done some renovations inside the room but the hotel is OLD and is showing that it is still not kept up. I would not be staying at this location again as in my opinion does not live up to the best western standards I have seen at other locations. The hotel pricing was high for what was received

Loved staying at the Sands with my 5 year old son. Clean, great service and a block to the beach. My son and I were in town for a stressful doctors appointment and the staff at the hotel made sure we had everything we needed.

the housekeeping staff are just very nice and very polite. we were very pleased with how they treat us even though housekeeping is not something they would do on a daily basis because of pandemic. we just hope that the hotel would put exhaust fans in the bathroom

Highlights: All the Covid-19 protocols were respected and executed by the hotel staff during our stay. 2- a minute walk from the English Bay beach. 3- friendly and helpful staff 4- BW hotels is generally my preferred choice for business and family leisure when available and our recent BW stay did not change my mind.

We live in Vancouver and our carpets were being cleaned hence the 2 night stay at this hotel. The location is perfect for any traveler wanting to see the sights. The bus stops outside the door and you're feet from English Bay. We were in the Rosen Suite - a 1 bedroom with full kitchen - and it was perfect. All Covid rules were adhered to and clearly marked. You won't be disappointed!

Front desk staff very friendly. Did an excellent job cleaning regularly of the front lobby and area. Room recently renovated. Traveled with our pet and the fee was too high considering the fact that any cleaning done because of a pet sleeping on the floor should simply be done after every checkout NO? Overall very good though.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating from when I called to make a reservation. The location was (beyond) perfect for what we wanted to do. The walk to the beach was pleasant and it was really a street away. The choices of restaurants and coffee shops were delightful. So that's why the 4-rating even if the room was looking very tired. I think the location and staff made up for it and because of that we will be staying in this hotel when we're back in Vancouver!

Location is amazing - 1 block to sea wall, close to Stanley Park and next to Denman St for food. It has been renovated, but all rooms have very thin walls and single pane windows. Bring ear plugs and Ask for a room on the top floor (floor 5) with a balcony to watch the sunset from. They are a little more expensive but the top floor has larger windows and they are much quieter without anyone walking above you. Being further up you don't get the traffic or bar noises as much (especially important on sport event nights). On the north side of the building the rooms all have air conditioner hanging out of the window which are very loud, so ask for an ocean view room facing Davie Street which have been updated with bay windows that incorporate the hvac instead. The ocean view rooms were all full when we arrived, so we had a north side 5th floor room (507) - photos below. It overlooked the parking area instead of the ocean. Comes with a mini fridge, mini microwave and single cup coffee dispensers. With Covid there were no open amenities in the hotel, and no housekeeping services. There was a $2.50 per day environmental fee and $20/day parking, and they allowed us to keep our car in the parking lot after checking out, until 4 pm that day while we explored the city. 2 nights (3 days) is only 2 days of parking fees. The parking lot is outdoors.

Family room suitable for 6. Value for money is correct for such location in downtown Vancouver. Rooms newly renovated. Rooms on the street are quite noizy: old single glazing. One minute walk from English Bay beach and five minutes from Stanley park.

The beds and pillows were soooo comfy! Everything was very clean. Great location for all things touristy with lots of food options on a Denman Street. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Only thing negative that I can say is that the windows are old (due to the age of the building) so a lot of street noise comes through - didn't bother us though.

Having to pay extra for a clean room? Unheard of. Paying for parking on top of that? Lame. Hotel is in a great location. But dont let the "partial ocean view" fool you. There is no view. The hotel was so filthy we upgraded to a "clean room" but also had to clean that room. Staff didnt care and wouldnt send anyone to clean it. In covid time, all sorts of no.

Awesome stay so close to the beach! Everyone was super friendly! They took COVID serious and made us feel safe. The underground parking was excellent, we had lunch at the restaurant and received excellent service and the food was delicious! We will stay there again.

Overall, the room is dated, but was excellent for the price. We upgraded to a balcony, but the pigeons make it difficult to enjoy - bird droppings cover the base and the chairs. They do not appear to be cleaned regularly. the room is comfortable, good a/c, fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Very basic room but good fro the price.

We booked with BW Sands as they offered pet rooms and cause it was close to the water. The bonus was that the rate was really good too! We've booked pet hotel rooms before and so we were not expecting much. Usually you get the no carpet, sorta smells, not so great room! Even my dog is not a fan cause of all of the other dog smells. So when we got into our room we were shocked at how lovely it was! Like we got a regular room! Very clean and comfortable and with carpet! Our dog loved it and instantly felt comfortable. It was so nice to be treated like responsible dog parents. Pet owners will understand what i mean. Highly recommend staying here and will definitely be back!

I've stayed at this hotel many times and it never disappoints! Great rooms and friendly, helpful staff. We stayed in a king room with a balcony and had a great view of English Bay. Looking forward to our next stay!

This is my favourite hotel to stay at when i come to Vancouver. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating! I tell everyone to stay here when asked which hotel to stay at! They have the best service out of all hotels i have stayed at. And their location is amazing, especially for summer time. They are located a 2 minute walk from the beach. Which is just lovely. I 100% recommend this hotel.

$20 parking charge hidden in the fine print, not even a continental breakfast included, bathroom fan inoperable and bathroom door didn't close properly. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that parking should be included in the cost of the room, not tacked on extra by surprise when you arrive. I suppose I should feel fortunate that there wasn't a pillow fee or a toilet tax as well. Not sure what makes this location a Best Western 'Plus' - but if you're looking for a Best Western Minus then you're in luck. Made me remember why I switched to Wyndham years ago.

Nice, basic hotel. Currently under renovation, but that didn't bother me much as I was up early most days for work anyways. The room upgrades are very nice - a significant improvement from the last time I had stayed here. I booked a King room which was surprisingly spacious. It had a separate wet bar / vanity area in addition to the bathroom vanity. Also had a pull-out couch, desk, mini fridge, and microwave. The restaurant on-site was great; definitely recommend their breakfast. Location (can) be noisy. The hotel is right on Davie street which can be very loud at night. I would recommend requesting a room at the back of the hotel. If you're not bothered by noise then a room at the front side of the hotel will be fine - plus you may even get a view of English Bay from a frontside upper floor! However, as a light sleeper, I was far less concerned about the view and much more focussed on a room in a quiet location. I was in room 415 and it was perfect. Only other downside is there are no skytrain stations nearby. However, there's a bus station around the corner from the hotel and cabs / UBER readily available. Great value, clean and updated hotel. Would definitely stay here again if I have to work in the West End.

The hotel is...nice. Near the Seawall & within reasonable distance to the rest of downtown. There is a bus stop right out front. Heating works well. The room is modernly decorated, bed super comfy & SEEMINGLY CLEAN! Unfortunately, I was sitting in my bed quietly, I saw a mouse, then another, then a third. Clearly scurrying around very quickly on my bedroom's floor. Unsurprisingly, I called the front desk; they didn't seem all that concerned though. They offered to have someone come up "soon" or to change me to another room. I accepted the offer for them to have someone come up, as I didn't really want to come off my bed and so I could see what they would do. Eventually, I was too freaked out to wait in the room and went down to the lobby. They gave me a card for a new room. I regret not taking pictures of all the mice! Cause when I went back up, I didn't see mice anymore. I looked around the room and moved the couch. And I found mouse traps! (See Photos) Unfortunately, I could not find another hotel in Van for anywhere near a reasonable price. I moved rooms but I was still uncomfortable; Feeling like there would be mice in all of the hotel! So spent the night walking around Vancouver. I wish they would have taken the situation more seriously! I wish they offered to move me (+any other guests) to another hotel while they dealt with the situation! They never told me if they got an exterminator or dealt with it at all. I don't think they informed the other guests.

Fantastic location! Walked to Aquarium and Granville with children (age 8-12) So many options for food, or just stick with basic safeway/shoppers/tims and starbucks. Overall great bang for your buck. Lovely staff.

My friend and I watched in amazement as a large dog they use for night security JUMPED OVER THE DESK and tried to attack 2 of there guests! wow! felt sorry for them. Rude front desk Asian man offered them no apologies. Strange to say the least in a hotel. Usually you would have a security guard or something I would imagine. Watch out for the Dog! and try some customer service BEST WESTERN!

I travel to Vancouver often for either leisure or medical purposes. As soon as we found this property last year and stayed there we knew that it would be where we would stay in the future. The property has been fully renovated over the last year and they have done an exceptional job of providing great service and ensuring that the client experience was not affected negatively. The employees are professional and friendly. On this particular stay there was a discrepancy between what I booked online and what the reservation had at the hotel. Katryna, who checked us in apologized for the inconvenience even though it was not her fault she made it her problem to fix. She was courteous and as a result of being a loyal customer of Best Western and The Best Western Plus Sands Hotel on Davie, she gave us an upgrade. That to me is exceptional and truly professional. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly and asked us if everything was good in our room. You don't get that elsewhere and I have stayed at some high end hotels. When I go to Vancouver, this is my preferred hotel of choice. You won't regret it. Thank you to the Manager Dallas and to his entire team for making a great weekend stay for me and my spouse.

Ok, I admit when we were first driving down Davie St to the hotel, I was a bit anxious. Especially when we pulled into the top parking lot and walked down the stairs that was located in the backside of the building. It didn't look the greatest for surroundings. But going inside the lobby and up to our room, I totally changed my view. The guest service rep was super nice and our room was pretty decent and very clean. Even with renovations going on, we didn't even hear anything really. Yeah the people beside us were a bit loud in their room and always walking up and down the hallway knocking on their friends' room. But no big deal. Location is amazing with all the restaurants that are walking distance. Literally a corner street away from the beach! Loved it, but it rained the whole time we were there. In the end, HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hotel!

As a downtown hotel, I did expect more. Some basic things were not addressed like my rewards number or the going green program. Staff didnt wear name tags so I couldn't tell you who was who... Basics.

I luv this location, area, across from Sunset Beach, Seawall and English Bay. Starbucks on the corner and the tasty Babylon Cafe around the corner too !! The bar/restaurant attached is great. A pedicure spa next door for weary feet as well.

Hidden gem of Vancouver. Newly renovated rooms are great! Hotel is close to everything. Great affordable breakfast and dinner. Only thing is that Vancouver rains all the time but that didn't stop us though.

I had a great stay in a partial english bay view 5th floor king room. Room was clean. Nice newer bathroom. Older hallway decor. Elevators are slow. Nice little balcony. Decent older restaurant where the retired locals hangout in evenings.

The agent at check out treated us poorly and didn't go about her job in a professional way. She continuously cut us off and told us we “Americans” were arguing with her even though we just needed a better understanding.

Wonderful breakfast. nice staffs. You can also find lot of restaurants around here. By the way, the beach is just steps away, but I never got a chance to visit the beach due to a real busy business trip. :D

We have stayed here a few times, great location,decent enough rooms etc . However we stopped in November and our room had mice! I rang reception and they sent a man up armed with a mouse bait box ! Saying we can't move you we're full and where do u want me to put this box,he also said his friend worked at one of the best hotels in Vancouver and even they mice, and then he went . We reminded reception when checking out and they gave us free car parking because we'd already had breakfast, don't think we'll stop again.

We stayed 9 nights at this hotel and were very impressed with the value it provided us. Most importantly the Hotel's staff were all very helpful especially the Young man serving weekdays in the restaurant onsite. The room was clean and this location provided all we needed in a very short walk. Closest Metro Train station (Canada line) was Yaletown Round house 25min walk or #6bus down Davie st. 2min walk to the Beach walkway.

Booked this hotel short notice for one night. The hotel looks like it's undergoing Reno's. There was a mix of recently refurbished and old. The lift was a big clunky but the room and the bathroom was great. Good for the night stay and in a good area which was easy to walk down town to. Our room overlooked the car park was was. Bit noisy. All in all, a good stay

We stayed at this hotel as we had stayed before a few Easters ago.... it is very close to where my son lives, so it is ideal. The hotel is very clean and in a very central location for English Bay. We stayed over Christmas and it was very festive. Breakfast was fab, plenty of food, in fact we probably could have shared a meal between 2.. beds were very comfy- rooms were nice and cosy.... Only noise we didn't expect was the dustcart at 6am....

This is the first time I have stayed at a Best Western hotel. I was very pleased with the room itself and the staff. The location was perfect. We didn't spend much time here, but if we return I will consider this hotel as an option due to its location in relation to restaurants and shopping.

Our first time in Vancouver and so happy that we chose this hotel as the perfect base. Super room with 2xqueen beds, plenty of storage and amenities, great bar, friendly staff and excellent breakfast deal in the morning. Ideally located to walk downtown, English Bay Beach, Seawall, Stanley Park etc. My son is living only a block away, hence our choice of location, but it was perfect and excellent value too for our 8 night stay. I'll definitely be coming back

Never stayed in a more rundown dump before in my life lifts didn't work for 2 days bar closed at 12 o'clock no resident's bar no resturant such a tired hotel ! Didn't choose it my travel agent f'ed up and ended up in this dump !

This location is very well situated, however it should not be called a "PLUS" its a regular Best Western. Seriously. on the first night we were kept up all night with loud banging coming from the ceiling, the second day we had a mouse or rat to deal with in our room. Both incidents were handled by the staff well in the form of free breakfast and a room reduction for the second night. However calling tis a PLUS location is a real stretch and I only stay in Plus or better Best Westerns. I am a card carrying member a have seen a lot of locations, this one should be evaluated for the price versus what you will get. Staff is great.

There's flooding and also no hot water. I don't know what else to write just don't stay here. Horrible place and is a joke. Was forced to leave the room early so they could fix this after refusing to switch our room the night before

Went to Rogers Area for NHL game. Hotel was 3 minute walk to direct transit. The rooms are secure as you have to use your room key to access the elevator. Rooms are clean and very well maintained. Food at the restaurant was good. Beds are very nice.

I stayed two night at the best western sands for work. The room was clean and bed was comfy. However, beginning at 9pm the thumping noise from the pub attached to the hotel in my rom. I did manage to sleep, but was awoken at 2 am by the noises from the bar closing. Also, the hotel does not have its own kitchen, but relies on the pub to feed its customers. I arrived at 10 pm and couldn't get a hot meal. The next day i did manage to eat there. A dark, dingy, greasy pub. I wouldn't ever stay here again if i could avoid it

Perfect place to stay for our weekend getaway. Close to everything we wanted, great view from our room as well as the lounge, excellent food & service. Comfortable beds and surprisingly little noise for downtown core.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and cannot say enough about the service I received. From the amazing staff to the service in all of the various departments. The head of Housekeeping even offered to bring me tea when I declined maid service due to not feeling well. I don't know many other hotels that would offer such personal service! I look forward to my next stay.

Cozy, quiet, clean, affordable and staff are friendly. Budget friendly and walking distance to restaurants and English Bay where you can just walk and relax. The room size was just right with enough space for our things.

Check in was smooth and easy, and the room was nice and clean. We had a room with balcony and had a nice nice view of English Bay. The bed was super comfortable and clean. We ordered room service in the morning from The Park and the food was great and arrived quickly!

The entire team at this hotel nailed it when it came to customer service. Great pub downstairs with excellent craft beer selections. Breakfast special is a must and very tasty! Rooms have been recently renovated and shower head is magical. Cheers!

The drab looking exterior doesn't do justice to the people working inside. They are the best! Very friendly and courteous. The breakfast on offer is generous and really very good. The restaurant ambience is warm and inviting. It was a pity we visited when renovations were being conducted. The lights went out a few times and there was constant banging noises. The air conditioning was kind of old.

We booked this hotel many months in advance as thought the location would be ideal for exploring Vancouver at the end of a 3 week road trip. As it turned out, the location was the only positive point about this establishment! Check in was chaotic. The reception was crowded and there was no system for ensuring an orderly queue. We were told that we had a good room as it had recently been upgraded. It was clean and tidy but it wasn't anything special. We had just started unpacking when my husband commented that he had seen something run across the floor. Sure enough there was a (large) mouse running around the room! We immediately rang reception who said that they would send someone up to to room. When there was no sign of anyone appearing we called reception again and they said that someone would be with us shortly. Finally a male member of staff eventually knocked on the door and when we opened it he thrust a handful of complimentary breakfast vouchers at my husband! When we asked how these were supposed to get rid of the mouse he had no idea what to do or say but his comments regarding mice in the heating system led us to believe that this was not the first time he had encountered such an incident. We then asked reception to move us but they advised us that this was not possible as the hotel was fully booked. We asked to be moved to another BW chain hotel and had the same response. We also tried to find alternative accommodation ourselves to no avail as there was an evening event on in the city and everywhere was booked out. By this time we had wasted so much time that we had to accept that were were going to have to stay at this rodent infested hotel. The final insult was that the hotel tried to charge us for all 3 nights but fortunately I noticed it and asked for the bill to be amended. Again, there was no apology. I have read 2 other reviews from guests who visited after us and clearly there is a problem with mice in this hotel. Lets face it, you don't just have one mouse in the house and it was clear from staff attitude that this was common place. I have complained to BW since our experience and their method of dealing with complaints is appalling. The responses I have had to date range from border line rude to people telling me what I already know ( ie- that I have received one night accommodation free of charge). They consistently fail to answer any queries regarding the rodent in the room. It may as well have been an elephant in the room as they just ignore it! Take my advice and avoid, avoid avoid the hotel. None of our family, friends or colleagues will be using BW in the future either. I rarely make complaints but the difference between this and another travel related complaint that my husband reported a couple of years ago is very relevant. In that case, the company responded to all correspondence quickly, apologised and offered a solution. BW would do well to accept that they have a problem with this property and deal with it properly as well as training their customer service team.

We've stayed at the Best Western Sands over a dozen times; it is a great location; easy walk to Stanley Park, easy walking to lots of ethnic food restaurants. The rooms have recently been remodeled and are very bright; the bathroom remodel is great. Also, the remodeled lobby is great; everything is very bright and clean. We will be staying there again and again. I only rated it "Very Good" for value because all the hotels in Vancouver are expensive!

I love staying here with my dog because the location is perfect. It is right across the street from English Bay/Stanley Park. Lots of opportunity to walk my pooch. The staff are great, the rooms are good, and I have all the amenities I need.

Booked here as we wanted to stay in the English Bay area and the property that we had stayed in previously had closed. We were pleased with the bedroom as it was a reasonable size although the bath room could have done with a makeover. The room was quiet and we had a good night's sleep. We were surprised that there was no room safe though. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The hotel is only a short walk from English Bay and is close to Stanley Park. We would certainly stay here again.

Right next to English Bay, really great location and a colourful neighborhood, with really great restaurants and access to many parts of the city. The elevator is a little dodgy but works well. All in all not a bad place to stay.

We really love the neighborhood this hotel is located in, we were able to park our car for a reasonable rate and get around on foot! It has been recently remodeled, so our room was very nice, but there were two major issues: one of the elevators was broken so we ended up hiking 5 flights of stairs all the time rather than wait, and the noise transferrence between our room and the next was excessive. We don't expect total silence in a hotel situation, but we could hear every word of their conversation, what program they were watching on tv, their toilet flushing...basically everything! Luckily we brought ear plugs, but it's something to be aware of!

Stayed here for 3 nights. Room was fine.the shower and bed were perfect.safe included and tea/coffee facilities.there is a bar and restaurant next to the hotel.we had breakfast here on one occasion.nice food the hotel is located in North Vancouver near to Stanley Park. You can get a bus just around the corner that will bring you to downtown vancouver.no complaints. Plenty of shops around.

My 6-day trip to Vancouver BC had perfect weather: it rained every day, except the day I left. Not one person and not one tree seemed to notice. The BestWesternPlus Sands Hotel west of downtown Vancouver was warm and cheery during my stay. Their covered driveway over the entrance made the transition in and out of the inclement outside easier to take. The rooms are large enough to be comfortable. The staff was attentive and pleasant. I told them it was cold and rainy, but they just smiled. If you are an American venturing north from California to visit friends, tell them not to be so nice to strangers. It is just not reminiscent of home.

Hotel was perfectly located to explore Vancouver. Room was large and clean. Room generously restocked with Seattle coffee each day. Staff all friendly, efficient and helpful. Food brilliant. Highly recommended

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Plus Sands in October 2019 for 1 night before boarding our cruise. The hotel is just half a block away from Stanley park. The location is great! It wasn't the fanciest of hotels but it was clean and the bed was comfortable and it was only for 1 night, so it was okay. Our room was definitely in need of renovating and ironically on the day we checked out, they began renovations on all of the rooms around ours, so I'm assuming ours was renovated as well. We saw new bathroom sinks and doors being installed in every room. We were awakened in the early morning by all of the construction noise. In addition to that, the cleaning lady also knocked on our door at 8:30 in the morning, but was gone by the time I got to the door. I saw her walking away when I peeked out of the peephole. Checkout was not until 11:30, so we thought we'd go to Starbucks which is right down the street, grab breakfast and return for our bags. As we were getting ready to leave, she knocked again and this time, when I opened the door, she said she ready to clean our room. I told her we weren't checking out until 11:30. She proceeded to tell me that renovations were being done on all of he other rooms next to us. I said “okay, but we don't check out until 11:30” She gave me a dirty look and walked away. Im assuming she wanted to clean our room and move on to another floor, because a few minutes later, she got on the elevator with all of her cleaning supplies and got off on another floor. We held the elevator door open for her as she had her cart with her and she did not say one word, not even “thank you” I would think that if the hotel knew they would be renovating every room on our floor, that they would have given us another room or at least inform us of the renovations that would be taking place. I didn't appreciate being awakened to early construction noise or a not so nice cleaning lady. Aside from the great location, the hotel was just okay and would most likely NOT stay here again.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a tour across Canada. When we arrived we had had a very long journey and we were exhausted. We entered our room and we were amazed not only at how large it was but how well equipped it was. We had an area with a sink and tea and coffee making facilities, drinking glasses, champagne bucket, almost a mini coffee shop. The bathroom was very well equipped with all toiletries we needed, there was also and iron and ironing board, and once we'd got to the main part of the room we found the usual large tv, fridge and a microwave!! This was ideal for microwave popcorn for the evening we stayed in and watched a movie. It's very well positioned for the waterfront and it is only 5 blocks from Granville Street for shopping. The staff were very friendly and could give good advice on anything you needed to know. I was very sad to have to leave.

First the positive. Bed was comfortable. Room was very clean with plenty of pillows and bath linens. Micro and small frig are convenient. Amenities of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, even shower cap were provided. We asked for quiet room and they did assign us one. The trade off was that windows looked out onto parking lot and utility area so drapes had to be closed at all times, even during the day, otherwise people in lot could look right into the room. Location is excellent and staff were very nice. Room was hot and stuffy even when outside temp was only in 50s, a.c. was old outdated window unit, hard to adjust, it was impossible to maintain at comfortable temp. We heard one couple complaining to front desk and they were moved to renovated room w more modern hvac. If you stay here definitely ask for room with updated hvac. Bath needs updating, sink and toilet are low, at the old style height, surface of tub was worn and chipped in multiple places, and bath did not have area to store toiletries. We had breakfast buffet and dinner at the hotel (included in the room cost) and food was really below par. Eggs and toast were cold, at dinner veggies tasted canned, rolls were stale. We ended up having breakfast elsewhere even though it was included in price of room.

This hotel is located about 15 minutes walk from the busy downtown shopping area and a few minutes from Stanley Park. There were renovations at the time of our visit and our booked room was not available. We were given an upgrade to a suite in room 501 and free breakfast. Very happy with this. The room was great although noise from next door could be heard from the interconnecting door to 502 and I am surprised they have not sorted this in the renovations. I would not be happy if I was paying for this room. The breakfast was great and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. We were able to park just outside the lobby to unload before returning the car to the rental company. The bar is busy and a good atmosphere with offers at various times. I would stay here again.

Had a great time with my neice, went for a walk to the beach and ordered room service breakfast! Great time! Close to the beach, room service was great and centralized location made this a great experience for my neice!

All I needed was a safe place to sleep in the city after a fun evening with friends... thought that the Best Western name would be a solid bet... man, was I wrong. Filthy, dirty room, broken elevator, and the bullet hole in the window? I believe I've said enough. Avoid this hotel. The only plus is a nice view of English Bay.

Very nice atmosphere love the Bayside Lounge view & the friendliness of the staff in the Park. Housekeeping is very friendly & efficient offering extra "comforts' to make one's stay more enjoyable top floor have balconies which have a partial view of English Bay.. (beautiful sunsets!!!)

The worst hotel I've ever stayed at by far. Staff not interested in complaints. They think the offer of food vouchers is sufficient to compensate rather than resolve the problems this hotel has . Fortunately we have a great travel agent who got us moved . Stay away from this place. . If you want mice try Disney !!

The location is close to restaurants, entertainment, and conveniences. It's a bustling area but quiets down in the evening. So you can get a good nights rest before you head over to the cruise port on the bus. The bus stop out front, takes you to a short 3 block walk over to the port. I would definitely do this again as the hotel is clean, quiet and comfortable.

Stayed one night and found the hotel to be excellent. A great location situation close to Stanley Park and across the road from the beach reasonable price, clean comfortable and extremely quiet. It's slightly dated but the room was a good size with a fridge, microwave, tea coffee,iron and ironing board. Toiletries etc . Friendly helpful staff. Fantastic restaurant in the hotel. We had the best meal there. The lifts were out the morning we left but the Hotel had the engineers out immediately Parking was available at a very reasonable price I'd stay there again

Stayed here 2 nights before our cruise room was dated but clean staff very nice was woken first night with cannabis coming throw the air con unit we was on second floor facing the front of hotel my husband phoned to reception they didn't want to know. Restaurant a bit on the expensive side only one lift working which is a pain ,great location with coin laundry ,we did hear there was a mouse running about just glad it wasn't my room .

Nice location, but between a mouse issue, broken down elevators, and a dirty bathroom didn't impress me at all. The people were nice but I won't be returning after a mouse was running around my room and the way the hotel handled the complaint made it even worse. I won't be returning.

2 night stay prior to cruise, very comfortable room, easy walking distance of the local beach and attractions. A stone throw from a short cab fare to the cruise terminal. Vibrant Davie street close by..and a good restaurant at the hotel itself which is reasonably priced. Worth a visit.

This hotel is very well located. We booked a king size bedroom with a balcony w/partial ocean view and it was definitely worth the few extra dollars. The view from the balcony was actually quite good. Staff are very courteous, professional and helpful. Room was clean and nicely decorated. Our favourite part of this hotel was the location. Close to the ocean, restaurants and Stanley Park...all within walking distance.

After the elevator being broken en taking a long time to check, the worst of this hotel was their answer to the noise lasting till 2 am from the hotel "disco". After complaining about not being able to sleep the hotel staff said: The music is always this loud" and even "you should've booked a more expensive room so the noise would have been less". We have asked 5 times during the night and no solutions were offered. Never again, this hotel is giving the Best Western franchise a bad name.

We payed $ 1.000 dollar for one night and 3 beds. We have not been warned but in the weekend you sleep on top of a disco. According to the reception we did not even had the worst room and to solve it we should pay for an even more expensive room. No compensation or resolution. We understand that we are down time but this is rediculous. The attitude of the reception and no proper night rest. We advised them to mention it during check in or even better, when booking.

This hotel has everything you need. It is a stones throw to the beach and Stanley park. There are a ton of dining / pub options within walking distance. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean.

I stayed in April, a last minute reservation and they excellently accommodated us! Although under renovation, they maintained a clean access environment, friendly staff and our room renovated, clean and comfortable ...they are also at a beautiful location English Bay.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Daily food specials were a great bargain and quite yummy! Actually, all the food we were served at their restaurant was great and very ample portion sizes too. Bathroom was small, but wonderful shower - looks recently updated. Very convenient to the beaches and the seawalk. The stroll around Stanley Park took us over an hour with lovely views along the way - a definite must for tourists. Walked in the other direction, found the water taxis and cruised around False Creek - also fun.

Thi place is obviousy in need of a remodel beginning with a flame thrower! The bay view which was promised was between two high rise condos. I walked out on the balconly and found dry rot on the wood decking. I thought I was going to meet my maker falling five stories to my demise! The room was so hot upon entering that it felt as if I was working near a blast furnace in the steel mill I once worked in Ohio. After rushing off the deck and entered the bathroom I noticed the water in the bowl was vibrating when I entered the room. This is just crazy!

The hotel was clean and in a central convenient location. However, one of the robes had an unappealing brown smudge on the backside which kind of turned us off the place. The staff told us it probably was missed because of the outside renovations...which didn't do much to ease our minds.The staff in the restaurant downstairs were nice. I don't know if I'd recommend this place as the prices don't necessarily match the experience.

Davie Street is honestly, in my opinion, the very best for location in Vancouver. The beating pulse of the LGBTQIA+ community, it boasts closeness to the beach, the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus line and some of the best restaurants around. The hotel was overall nice, the elevators are a little dated (slightly scary), the doors don't cut out noise like they could, and the sheets are a little rough (in texture) but honestly I'd make the sacrifice for the location any day. I can't comment on wheelchair accessibility for the bathrooms as we did not get a handicap room this time but in most other ways, it was very accommodating. There is a very nice restaurant attached to the hotel with great breakfasts and a nice club/lounge accessible from the outside nearby that has a ramp up to it. The staff was friendly and accommodating and answered any question easily. They can even set up your Hop-on, Hop-off at the desk! :D

Large clean room. Shower a little temperamental, but overall excellent. Staff very attentive and dealt with all our requests efficiently. Food good quality and value, especially when using $10 'no housekeeping' voucher.

The proximity of this hotel to English Bay and good restaurants makes it one of the best in Vancouver. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. This is a good hotel to stay at before an Alaska cruise that starts in Vancouver.

we loved the location of this hotel. Plus parking on site was very reasonable. The rooms were not large, but quite nice. Really good shower with great water pressure. It was steps to English Beach and tons of restaurants. The laughing statures are also steps away. Perfect place to view fireworks, parades, etc. We will stay here again!

This hotel is in a good location if you want to be close to Stanley Park or the beaches that seem very popular. That is basically the positives. For the 'Could Do Better' section, I will start with the abrupt receptionist who once I had introduced myself told me they had been trying to contact me all day as they couldn't take the deposit from my card. I received one email. Hardly all day and not worth the 'sharp' welcome we received, which initially led me to thinking we had no room reserved. When I looked at my phone and saw the email, I apologised for driving all day and not taking notice of my phone. We have since had an apology about this, stating it will be looked into. The room provided was number 124 which was directly above a club that belted loud bass music out until I must have eventually fallen asleep around 2am, even though we were all shattered from a long drive. The lack of double glazing in what is supposed to be a refurbished hotel (apparently they have only refurbished part of it and our room was one of the ones outstanding) resulted in me waking up around 03:15am to the loud singing of drunken idiots, outside. When I mentioned this I was told that perhaps I am not used to the atmosphere in Vancouver. The aircon machine, that I hit my leg on getting out of bed, was extremely loud and didn't seem to work very well, anyway. Too hot or too cold, but definitely noisy. I am told these too are to be refurbished. We had reserved a late checkout due to a pre booked sea trip. We packed up before leaving, only wanting the room later for a shower due to the sea spray we would encounter from the trip. When we got back, admittedly an hour and a half later than estimated, our bags had been ceremoniously placed by the main door where anyone could have helped themselves and we were told there were no washing facilities available. Not a great feeling having to travel, covered in salt! I appreciate rooms have to be made up for incoming guests but it was 14:30 and guests are not allowed to check in until 16:00. If not possible, which we were told absolutely not, it may have been nice to suggest somewhere to freshen up rather than just shrugging the shoulders and saying you have no idea. It seemed that once the hotel had our money, that was the end of the relationship. Finally talking about money. Once I had paid, using my credit card, I foolishly just stuck the invoice in my wallet without checking it. When we got home I checked my credit card bill and found that I had been overcharged by $107. I have now received the overpayment back, but it did take an email and a follow-up email in order to chase up. Not the great night/room/experience my wife was hoping for on her birthday. I'm not convinced we would return even when the whole refurbishment has been completed.

Very noisy ; if you take the suite with balcony rooms they are streetside with a lit of traffic. The Elevator doors are very noisy too when they open and close. Great location but better bring your earplugs along

We found ourselves needing to have an unexpected hotel night in Vancouver and so found availability at the Best Western Plus Sands Hotel in English Bay. Due to our lack of notice and the busy period, we paid quite a lot for the hotel - more than we expected - although that is our fault. Upon arrival, the receptionist was not very welcoming as the first thing she said was "you're really early" and not "hello" - as if we being a nuisance. However, the man who handled the luggage (I believe his name was Ant) was extremely pleasant and helpful. Indeed, he was lovely on all occasions during our stay. When we arrived in our room we had a good surprise. The bedroom and bathroom were large, very clean and with nice linens. There was also a useful mini kitchen of microwave, coffee maker and fridge. The area around was very nice indeed, with lots of restaurants to choose from and a pretty beach very close by. The hotel is also conveniently located on the bus route to downtown. All in all, we had a nice stay. The bed was very comfortable and the room was well equipped. The hotel has quite a functional appearance on the outside, which belies its nice rooms, but that's not really important. We would stay again.

A good hotel, clean and tidy. An awesome location, close to the water and Stanley Park. An easy walk to to the city. Friendly reception and bell staff. We had a twin room. The aircon was a little noisey, but overall a good stay.

We chose to come to Vancouver to visit my son. The hotel was exceptional. The location, the service, the food and the really helpful and extremely pleasant staff made our stay absolutely perfect. We will definitely stay here again when we come back! Thank you for helping our holiday t be just perfect!

The hotel is in a great location to Stanley Park, restaurants, pubs and shopping on the West End. Across the street is English Bay Bike Rentals to enjoy the park and city on bike. The front desk staff, including the bellhop, were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. I felt that the hotel was a bit overpriced for the amenities that we received, however they do allow pets, which is why we chose to stay here. :-) If you plan on visiting Vancouver and want to be within walking distance to the park, then this is the hotel for you. The food in restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. We ate breakfast there in the morning. This is an older property that needs to be updated. Only one elevator was operational on my visit and it was extremely slow. You can tell that they attempted to update the property, but did more of a cosmetic upgrade and not anything substantive (i.e. they just covered up imperfections with wallpaper, added some newer décor and only partially updated the bathroom). I was frustrated that the shower drained so slow. The water covered my feet by the time I finished my shower. You couldn't adjust the shower head or flow either. Our room had a window unit air conditioner, but it took awhile to cool down our room. It might have been because the dirty air filter light was flashing.

There are four matters that made my experience at Best Western truly terrible. Firstly, there is insufficient lighting. The room only had two desk lamps with no room light which made reading impossible. Secondly, the air con was very loud and ineffective. There was no window so the room was suffocating. Thirdly, there is no noise barrier. I could hear noises from the street, upstairs' rooms, my neighbors and the corridor. Lastly, the room smelt of smoke.

I really loved the location , easy walk to the beach with lots of interesting restaurants in and around the hotel. Robson Street and Stanley Park close by. Sufficient parking lot at a reasonable price for Vancouver..

This hotel is a bit out of way but it is close to the ocean, the cruise,port but away from the airport.Doesn't have a shuddle service to or from airport a bit of a pain, actually a $40.00 pain, also you have to purchase your breakfast but the restuarant has a great breakfast special. $6.49 for the express great deal

Stayed here for one night - location is so wonderful for walking to happy hour lunch, dinner, brunch, late night.... pretty much everything you could need. My room was already ready for me when I arrived at 1:45 in the afternoon. Booked a basic suite but was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was a queen room with a couch/coffee table seating area with a view of Davie St./English Bay. Bedroom was recently renovated but my bathroom hadn't been done yet. All around really great one night stay.

-The check in was smooth no issues. -Be aware of the elevators ... they don't stop level with with the floors and cause a trip hazard. -When we unpacked and go all of our clothing put away we noticed a dead mouse on the floor behind the curtain. We called the front desk and they wanted to change rooms but we said that we just finished unpacking and just wanted to have the mouse removed and the carpets sprayed with a sanitizing spray. This was done. -the bathroom tub needs to be replaced ... so many scratches on it; at first we thought they were hairs but no they were scratches. Bathroom door needs to be replaced or painted. -room door was very difficult to close as it sticks; needed to always pull or push with significant power to close it. -bathroom door needs to be painted. -the hotel is in a nice location near English Bay Beach and Stanley Park. -having stayed at so many hotels in my life this is definitely a 3 star hotel. Not sure where the “Plus” designation comes from.

The place isn't bad at all. Although it is located on Davie Street (not quite good area in Vancouver), but it is close to Denman Street, and there are very good restaurants on Denman. My wife first complained about its far distance from the Vancouver International Airport, but when we got to walk around the area and sampled some good dishes, and also were able to enjoy the fantastic firework the second night at the English Bay, she stopped complaining. In addition to that, the breakfasts in the hotel were fabulous! I can't remember the names of dishes, but we enjoyed them very much!

The hotel was in a great location for English Bat and the staff was absolutely exceptional especially Steve. The room was very good, very clean and had a decent view. Overall I would definitely stay again and wholeheartedly recommend.

This hotel is in an awesome location close to beach and is nicely kept, with very friendly employees! The restaurant onsite is tasty and has lots of beer selection. Well definitely stay here again. Great for couples.

A group of 9 of us enjoyed our stay at the hotel the night before we started our cruise. The staff were friendly, the location was great and the price was reasonable. We would use it again if in the area.

The location is spectacular. You can walk to anything that you need. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. It is reasonably priced for the location. I would stay here again.

We knew that reception would be busy when we arrived as this is a popular, well-situated hotel. Check-in staff were very pleasant and efficient. We had a nice large room with balcony and a great view of English Bay. Beds were super comfy! Would like to see a couple of 'easy' chairs in the rooms. Will definitely be back!

The hotel itself is perfectly reasonable, but is kept at a constant high heat. The rooms advertise air conditioning but when turned on are so loud that you can't sleep, or think... Choose between a good location, friendly staff and a reasonably priced attached bar at the cost of potentially not getting a good night's sleep for your whole trip.

Very good Best Western near English Bay. Our king room was on the 5th floor with a balcony and a great view of the bay. The room was recently renovated and it was quite nice with a new bathroom. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linens and the room also had a microwave and fridge. We used the restaurant for their tasty break fast and although it wasn't free the cost of $6.49Cdn was negligible. The staff including manager,Dallas were all friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay again.

We were here for a few days and appreciated the location - close to restaurants and the park, easy to walk to downtown, or take the bus.There were lots of electrical outlets, good wi-fi, a hard bed in a modern room. There was a smaller old bathroom with some mold on the grout. Lots of hot water. There were room-darkening shades, but the room light is on when using the bathroom at night. There is an attached restaurant with very good breakfast when you pay, but only mediocre if you are on a tour and getting it free. I'd stay again.

This was our first stop on a road trip down the Pacific Coast highway. We arrived straight from the airport after a lengthy flight and Vinny at reception could not have been more helpful. As we only had one overnight in the city with a few places we wanted to visit, he recommended the hop on/hop off tour bus as a quick way of getting around to each of them. With a stop right across the road at English Bay beach, this worked out very well for us. Luckily our room was ready, despite us arriving a little early. We found it to be clean and above average compared to other similarly priced hotels we've stayed in. Well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, microwave, and fluffy dressing gowns & slippers. The bed was nice and big and the room was quiet, we had no issues with noise. It was within walking distance of restaurants and the beach and the hop on/hop off bus stop. Breakfast was not complimentary, though there was a room service menu, we didn't see a restaurant or bar, but this may be due moreso to the whistlestop nature of our visit. After checking out, we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel, the front desk staff helped out again by pointing out the free shuttle to Capilano, as we hadn't yet figured out how we were getting there. On return the front desk called us a cab and we said farewell. Would recommend for anyone visiting Vancouver, BC on a city break, we would stay again.

We booked late into a “mountain view room”. There was little to no view. For the area, the hotel was OK. Staff was good but the room was dated (peeling vinyl, stained ceiling). Not sure if we would stay there again.

Stayed for 3 nights, big room with 2 queen beds. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Shower over a bath. Had to ask for milk for our tea/coffee which they were happy to provide. Bus stop across the road and also a few metres down from the hotel. Very close to English bay and Stanley Park. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We (a party of 3 adults) have just had 3 nights in the Sands hotel and were very happy with it. Our room (number 205) looked over a small street and the car park so was quiet, even with the window open. We slept with the window open because we turned off the air conditioning unit as it was so loud. It wasn't old and rattly, just loud. The bed was large and comfortable. We had plenty of space in the room, even with 3 adults. The bathroom was very small but you usually only have one person at a time in there anyway! The position was ideal for us, close to English Bay and Stanley Park. The decoration was a bit tired in places but nothing too bad, it certainly didn't put us off. We tried to have breakfast in the Red Umbrella cafe, just up the road, on Sunday but it was too busy. However we got in easily on Monday and Tuesday and the food was delicious so we would recommend giving it a try.

Welcoming resort with lots of space. Right there on the beach. Family friendly. Rooms had lots of space inside. Microwaves and fridge and stocked keurigs in each room! They are trying hard to be eco friendly. Right in between downtown Tofino and all the surf spots. Kids had fun, adults had fun, great atmosphere!

We came to Vancouver for an overnight trip. I was disappointed with the cost and comfort of this Best Western Plus. The hotel needs an update. The food was good but really expensive. The location was good. The bay was just a block away. The front desk staff were very nice.

The Best Western Plus Sands couldn't be in a better location, just a stone's throw from the beach and Stanley Park at English Bay. The room was cramped and dated but kept very clean by the housekeepers. Unfortunately, it was also right next door to the lifts (we had rooms 319 and 419, if you want to avoid this), which clanked all day and most of the night. Staff were friendly when spoken to, but otherwise kept a low profile. Those are the positives. Negatives are the small, dated rooms and bathrooms, and the air conditioning, which sounded like a Boeing 747 taking off when switched on. The room got hot and stuffy (in June) without it, so we left it on when we were out and turned it off when we were in. Not ideal. The restaurant is really a sports bar with multiple large screens, so we ate all our meals elsewhere. It was reasonably-priced compared to other Vancouver hotels (now we know why) and I can't fault the location or the low-key staff, but that's about it.

The hotel was very nice, it is an older hotel but we like that - gives it some flavor! They were remodeling the lobby while we were there to update a little. They don't provide breakfast but there's a restaurant connected that was very good. Our room was very nice, bed was super comfortable, we especially like the location as it was a quick walk to English Bay and we rented bicycles right across from the hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Found the hotel to be in a really good position for the bay and transport, especially for the Hop On Hop Off bus . The staff were excellent and very helpful throughout our stays each side of our cruise. Restaurant was a little too pubish and could do with being updated to a more selubrious feel and we would have preferred a self service buffet at breakfast time.

Couldn't be happier with the location. Steps from the beach, stanley park, tons of food options and bike rentals. Hotel staff were wonderful and very friendly. After reading reviews, I only took the stairs and stayed away from the elevators. Room was nice, good size, bathroom needs remodeling (hotel in middle of remodeling). Air conditioner hasn't been replaced yet and is loud, but we sleep with a sound machine, so the noise didn't bother us. View was nothing, room facing back of building. Restaurants all around, probably 25 small take out restaurants on Denman, Starbucks right next to hotel, 10 minute walk to Davie Village, literally 2 minutes to get into the beach. Bike rental across the street that was great and well priced. Couldn't be happier with our choice to stay here and hope to back again.

Advertised as a renovated hotel. Found out that not all rooms are fully renovated. Our bathroom, especially the tub/shower was disgusting. There was also a pill on the floor in the bathroom that my children noticed. I reported both and was told that there were no other updated rooms available until our second night, but we would have to pack our room in order to be moved. We left at 7:20 the next morning for a 13 hour tour and did not have time to repack our family of four. There was no follow-up to this, and the pill in the floor was still there that night after our room had been “serviced”. The window A/C unit was loud and ran constantly as it couldn't seem to keep the room cool. It was a foot away from the person sleeping in the bed next to it.

We had an excellent experience staying here while visiting Vancouver. Its location is perfect, close to beach and other places within walking distance. The room is good (though the street a bit noisy ... seems like quite a few people with supercars want to drive down that street until late night), and staff is super friendly and helpful.

The room was clean and the staff was very good, but the air conditioner was soooo noisy and the housekeeping staff was very noisy outside our room that had a "do not disturb" sign on it. The elevator was not working and the staff swore it would be there soon. Never came so we climbed three flights of stairs.

Hotel is still undergoing renovations, so the lobby and some floors are in disarray. We enjoyed our stay here for two nights pre-cruise as it was very convenient to English Bay, Stanley Park, lots of restaurants and public transportation

We stayed one night in this hotel. Location was good right by English Bay. The room had been renovated but the bathtub/shower was old. The paint was peeling on the tub. The air conditioning unit appeared to be old and when it kicked in, which it did all the time, it was so loud neither myself or my husband could sleep. We had a terrible night. I let the front desk know on departure that the air conditioning unit had to be addressed prior to putting another guest in the room (220) but other than a week apology nothing was offered to us to compensate for the horrible night. Extremely disappointing experience.

The good news is that this hotel has an unbelievably great location within a block of the water and Stanley Park. Also the staff in the lobby is charming (and helpful). Unfortunately, the rooms were noisy with the partying below and street noise (also noisy air conditioning). The elevators were quirky and often went up when you wanted to go down. The restaurant did not open early enough for early morning excursions.

You really can't ask for a better location. So close to the beach, park, and tons of restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get everywhere. *The hotel is a bit outdated, though, and the elevators truly feel like they were built in 1900 and haven't been updated since.

Enjoyed our quick stay, the area is full of interesting things to do and see. Many within walking distance. The lobby has been tastefully remodeled, as well as some of the other areas of the hotel. Updates are nice.

The hotel is in an excellent location near the beach. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the bar is lively at night. We had a nice room with a view of the beach. The hotel could probably do with some refurbishment and the lift wasn't working properly all the time we were there. The hotel has limited parking which has to be paid for which I don't agree with, but all that said this is a decent hotel for a short break.

Close to the beaches, English Bay, Stanley Park, all within walking distance! Many restaurants close by. Buses to sky train or downtown are very frequent. Very reasonable price for the best location you can get! Highly recommended. We also go $50 voucher because of the renovation going on.

Location, location, location as they say.. this was 2-300m from the beach so ideal to start exploring. The staff were friendly and helpful, they were delighted that it was being upgraded. The Corridors had that old worn dirty brown / beige wall paper and the rooms basic and a little shabby and dark. ( not much of a "Plus") however the lobby was refitted and they were working on the rooms. The attached bar/pub was functional, and the attached restaurant/ bar had sea views and was nice. VC prices are sky high- so this real estate has potential, with investment it could be so much better and hopefully will be.

Sadly we were given a room that was very small (the elevator shaft took up most of the room) it was on the first floor with a delightful (not!) view of the bins and car park. It was also incredibly hot which the air conditioning unit could not compete with. The hallways smelt of stale smoke and the place needs a makeover. But! The staff are friendly and helpful, it's in a good location and the shower was good.

We found a great deal in this hotel after we were bumped from our Airbnb booking. The room had a very comfortable king bed and was very clean and quiet. The exercise room was adequate, though a bit limited. The staff was very friendly. The neighborhood has great dining spots and is walkable to Stanley Park and a bit farther to Downtown, though there is a public bus in front of the hotel that goes right Downtown. There was some construction going on in the lobby but this did not interfere with our stay.

Paulette was wonderful from the minute we made our reservation on the phone, to when we checked in and checked out. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. My young daughters both slept so well and loved the fancy shower in the bathroom. We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to head over to the aquarium or Stanley Park as it was so close. There are a ton of dining options around and it's steps away from a lovely beach walk.

Such a great area to stay in. Lots of places around to eat and drink, including inside the hotel itself. Very comfortable. This is an older hotel but it's still one of the best places in Vancouver. Convenient to everything. Good parking. Great staff.

The staff here and especially the Manager Sandy have always provided outstanding service. I have stayed in the rooms facing English Bay, although a little noisy with traffic I love the view, and other times I have stayed in a room in the back, very quiet, but the rooms are clean and the location is convenient to everything downtown Vancouver has to offer. Highly recommended!

Really liked this place. Excellent location right there at English Bay and we received a nice surprise of a wonderful view of the bay from the top floor. The staff was awesome. A special thanks to Ash and Sean for being especially kind. Great little restaurants around there, little hole in the walls with excellent food. Loved Ginger Garlic for Indian and Won More for Chinese. Both had very fresh ingredients. The lobby was undergoing renovations but I didn't take points off because everything else was perfect!

The location is excellent... right next to the beach with an amazing view of the sunset from the Hotel. Lots and lots of restaurants in the vicinity and lovely place a walk along the beach. The hotel building is quite old. The rooms are decent sized and well maintained. But the location beats everything else and there is good amount of parking space as well.

This hotel is in a great location! Go see the sunset on English bay but first of all walk up Denman to the gelato place and grab 3 mini scoops for $6 (You won't be sorry) The hotel was comfortable, undergoing some renovations but nothing that affected our stay. The door man was super helpful with directions and grabbing the door.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. It is in the best location, just a short walk down the road to the Stanley Park Seawall walk. The bus stop is at the front door, loads of restaurants and bars near by. Walking distance to the ferry for Granville Island. The hotel is undergoing an upgrade and it's looking good. The rooms however are pretty small and the bathrooms especially are tiny..we didn't mind so much but some people may need more room. The staff were all lovely and helpful. The only issue we had was how noisy the air conditioner was....it was ridiculously loud and seriously we needed to wear earplugs to get any sleep with it switched on.

...minus the bell hop. My sister reserved a taxi for us to take to Granville Island. We reserved a cab online the night before to ensure we would be on the island in enough time for our whale watching tour. As our taxi approached, the bell hop stepped out in front of us and gave it away to a couple waiting outside with luggage. The cab driver even asked us if we were the ones who called for him, and when we said yes, he apologized and said he would call another for us. The bell hop looked at us and said, ‘sorry this couple has been waiting awhile for their taxi'. Even after my sister explained that we reserved this taxi the night before to avoid problems like this, he just kept repeating that they were waiting awhile, completely disregarding that he blatantly took our reserved taxi for another set of guests. This incident was extremely upsetting, considering we were 2 young girls traveling alone. Our week was packed so we didn't have time to report the problem, so hopefully staff here follows through - it happened in the morning on 4/18/19. Otherwise, our stay was great and we really enjoyed the location of the hotel, as well as the eco-friendly perks!

Amazing spot for families. Quiet, walkable to Stanley Park, the beach and loads of restaurants and coffee shops near by. Hotel staff were super friendly and helpful. Rooms are a bit small, but onsite parking was great.

It was a convenient location to the bus line. they have a restaurant on site which offered a good selection of items. I would come back and stay here again. we were here in July for the weekend with the fireworks display and we were able to watch them from our window. I felt very safe in the area and there were a few shops around for me to pick up items that I needed.

While we are frequent guests at the best western chain, this hotel was very run down and dirty. Rooms had built up dirt on bathroom floors, windows have black mould and mildew built up on them. The renovations cause excess dust which is not being addressed. The lobby and hotel hallways are very dusty.

In town to tour universities. Pretty central and vibrant neighbourhood, steps from the beach and sea wall. Some construction noise, and thin walls... Slightly sketchy parking situation out back. Room was clean and perfect, which is what matters most.

Aside from the construction going on, people were noisy while I was trying to sleep. Ice machine noisy. Balcony floor felt rotten. Decor was very bland and grey. Elevator felt quite sketchy and doors were noisy when opening and closing. Room was clean. Wifi was slow. Restaurant was ok. Needs to have its own bathrooms to keep the lounge goers out of the lobby. Parking was very tight.

They are doing renovations but our room was lovely, bright, clean, king bed that was extremely comfy. Close to a park , and the Ocean. Not far from Stanley Park . Enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. The only issue was “no breakfast”. But everything and all staff were polite and helpful.

They never let us down. The location is our drawing card for sure. Walking distance to Stanley Park and Granville Island. Even downtown if you're feeling energetic. Staff is terrific too. Any and all concerns were dealt with the moment we brought it to their attention.

First of all the hotel is undergoing renovations, but they only work Mon-Fri from about 9-4. However this did not impact our stay. The hotel's proximity to Stanley Park was the major selling point when I booked the hotel and it lived up to our expectations! Being less than 400m to English Beach/the trail systems was crucial to keep my two larger dogs docile during the hotel stay. Rooms are a tad small, but we were able to fit 3 adults/a toddler and two large dog crates comfortably with minimum rearranging. Parking is $20/night in the hotel lot. It is limited and challenging with any large vehicles (which I understand it being a city and all). Overall an enjoyable trip to Vancouver!

The rooms are average size and clean but undergoing renovations. The location is fantastic! A short walk to the beach and to restaurants. Easy drive to any of the Vancouver attractions. Breakfast was great and staff both friendly and helpful.

The location of the hotel is excellent, right be the ocean where we could watch sunsets. Although the hotel was under renovation, the staff went out of their way to make our visit enjoyable. The room was very nice, very comfortable beds and pillows. Overall our experience was excellent.

Visited for an independent retreat for intermingling couple in the area. There was a speed dating event that we went to and enjoyed the spirituality of it. I'm happy to see hotels willing to host progressive events. Shout out to the man wearing the Home Depot shirt he delayed renovating the room next to us so we could sleep in.

Even the woman who cleaned the bathroom was sincerely friendly and thoughtful. Like, I thought the sink shut off automatically and she turned it off for me, we shared a laugh. She reached over and gave me a paper towel with a smile - the whole place was like this. Courteous and helpful. Exceptional.

Found on the net, was not disappointed. Great value for money, cozy rooms, friendly staff and well centered location. Overall, our stay with my daughter was great. Even though their was some disturbance due to renovation, they made sure that guests were least affected. Would recommend.

Great location and stay! The location is superb and yo can get to about anywhere walking. The were renovating the lobby so the service was a bit hectic at the front desk. They gave us breakfast coupons which helped. We would definitely stay at the Sands in Vancouver again.

just beside lake , and Stanley park, walking beside lake and in the park, like it very much , will live there next time, the service is very good and helpful. there is a party room in first floor , and every evening , some one sing there, very endjoyble. also there is kitchen, i can make the breakfast and dinner my self. I will recommend my friend to live there in the future. the hotel is also very convenient to have some food outside. I especially live the lake, during I live there two nights, every morning , I get up earlly to wake beside the lake with my mum and see the beautiful scenery , mountain, water, ship, and Canada goose . we love it very much. The room is very clean, and bed is very comfortable, there is coach bed in the lving room, can hold more people for a big family. we love it very much.

Though an older hotel, the rooms are large and comfortable. The facilities in the room all worked fine. The cafe downstairs has good food for the breakfasts and suppers, sometimes close to closing time at night. Live music twice a week.

We visit Vancouver often, and we like to stay at the Best Western Sands Hotel at the foot of Davie Street, right on English Bay. We like the location, we like the breakfast, (ask about the special breakfast deal for hotel guests), and although they are undergoing renovations right now, it is not a disturbance, and it will be even better when they are finished.

Had a great stay at this hotel when I was in the area for work. There was a minor leak in my room and the carpet was wet, and the staff offered to move me to a different room, but as I didn't want to repack and move everything, they gave everyone that I was with free breakfast and helped me to cover the wet area with towels. They are super helpful with directions and very friendly. The restaurant has decent food, but very very slow service in the evenings, and is a bit loud, but I would definitely stay here again. The outside looks a bit sketchy, but we never had any problems :)

Best Western Plus Sands is right at the Ocean and Sea Wall. Being on the cusp, you will find it is easily walkable to any address downtown. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and comfy and location is near also to public transportation. We have happily stayed here many times.

This neighborhood left nothing to be desired: many great restaurants within blocks, two blocks to the beach, miles of walking routes leading to town and Stanley Park, on the edge of quiet neighborhoods, Robson in walking distance. Our room was ample for two people. We stayed four nights. It was nice to have a desk, a sofa and a coffee table (also fridge, coffee maker and kettle) in the room. We spread out. There seemed to be an esprit d'corps in all the staff that was admirable. Everyone we encountered seemed to be on the lookout for offering assistance. There was often a doorman too - even though the front door was auto-assist. We had read comments about them remodeling rooms, but I saw no indications of construction and I honestly couldn't decide whether we were in an old or remodeled room. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom were dated, but everything worked perfectly and I could not detect any signs of wear. We were on the 4th floor facing the street and were never bothered by street noise. Covered parking was only $17.49 per night. I would say the restaurant was the only downside. We wheeled through there one day, saw a drab bar with tv screens and decided not to come back. Not that anything was wrong or lacking in cleanliness. It's just that when you have The Red Umbrella down the block for breakfast and the Cactus Club for dinner, why settle for less?

I will definitely be back. Everything from check-in to check-out and everything in between was perfect. Even though they were in the middle of renovations it was still clean and noise kept to a minimum

Good choice to stay. Clean and elegant rooms, friendly staff, right in downtown Vancouver. Good price. No breakfast, small and tight parking. Washroom a bit dated but they are renovating everything. Overall, good experience.

I stayed at this hotel for one night and had a really good experience. Managed to get an early check-in and the room was spotlessly clean.The reception lady and housekeeping were very friendly, as well as the bellman from Mexico.

I booked this hotel on Hotwire after we had a canceled flight and needed to stay another night in Vancouver. I was initially a little bit disappointed when I saw the pictures of the exterior. They didn't have an accessible room, and the bathroom in the room they gave us was tiny… I couldn't even get my scooter into it. Katrina and juan went out of their way to get me the one and only wheelchair accessible room on the property. It was great. Two queen beds that were a little bit lower so I could transfer into them. A huge bathroom so I could wheel right in. No roll in shower, but they supply a shower seat. It was a great room. It's an older hotel, so the walls are quite thin and you can hear people in the hall, but it wasn't bothersome. The elevators are old and a little sketchy, but they are currently upgrading them. We had happy hour and taco Tuesday in the restaurant. It was really reasonably priced And quite yummy. The house wine was good and $4. I wasn't familiar with this area of downtown, but it is right on English Bay, surrounded by delicious restaurants and funky little shops. The weather was horrible so we couldn't see the water… But we knew it was there. The #6 bus stops right across the street and out front of the hotel. Takes you from Yaletown Canada line station. It would be gorgeous in the summertime. Don't let the exterior of this hotel defer you from Booking. It's great. We would definitely stay here again

Remodeling hotel at this time, not the best renovations and the room was very cold...warmed up a bit by the third morning!! Walkable but limited parking and very tight parking stalls. Housekeeping staff very friendly!!

I stayed two nights at this hotel. The first night I was on the second floor on the street side from which you can see a bit of English Bay; however I found the traffic from the street to be too noisy for me. I asked the next morning if I could change rooms and the agent found one on the third floor overlooking the parking lot. It was very quiet, which was nice. Both rooms had been updated and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. I will definitely stay here again! Fabulous location!

Nice to see the Hotel upgrading and renovating this location! We had a newly upgraded room and it was very comfortable with the standard trappings - but it did have the bonus of a comfortable couch with which to enjoy the stunning English Bay views. Restaurant downstairs served great breakfast and the Bayside Room is and will always be the best place to enjoy a nightcap overlooking All of English Bay and beyond!

The room makeover looks great, the bathrooms need to be remodelled. Great service at the front desk. A bit of an attitude from the Park restaurant hostess. A lovely meal at the Bayside Lounge and dancing the night away in the club.

From the moment I arrived at this location I was impressed with the level of service from all of the staff. Yes, hotel staff should smile and welcome you when you arrive but this was different. You could tell that they were being genuine. Even when we got up to our room the housekeeping staff took the opportunity to welcome us and to ensure that we were completely satisfied with the room. The bellhop opened the entrance doors in anticipation of our return.. you don't even get that nowadays at the High end and expensive hotels anymore. We truly felt like we were part of the family. Thank you for a great stay.

Well designed simple space, friendly staff and quiet morning wake-up provided us with a very pleasant experience. Situated close to a large variety of restaurants, beach access and the walkway/promenade into Stanley Park makes this a great place to saty when visiting.

Hotel was centrally located. Easy access to English Bay. I only stayed night but the amenities were plentiful- a fitness room, a bar and restaurant and close to public transportation.The downside - the room smelled of stale cigarette smoke even though the property has a non-smoking policy.

A friend of mine in Vancouver booked the Best Western Sands in English Bay, Vancouver primarily because of its excellent location. I was traveling alone & he assured me that this was a safe area & a good hotel to stay in & it was! The staff are very friendly & provided helpful & efficient service. The room was modern & had a very comfortable bed & all the typical things one would want in a hotel room. I would definitely refer this hotel to friends & family. Easily accessible to public transit & sites.

I was shocked, only this time I stayed at the hotel for 9 nights and they charged recycle bins, actually our room was not cleaned for 4 days (the housekeeper offer me to get a 10 $ coupon each day discount for eating at the hotel if we dont cleaning our room which is have 2 double bed, room 205). I am a mother with 2 children who still drink almond milk every day, our recycle garbage is not much. When we went out the female receptionist said everyone got the same charge and when I asked for the receipt of the garbage disposal payment she tell me to sign the receipt if I want to have that bill. I'm pretty sure some people before I checked out and when I was check in were not asked for this recycle fee. Even yesterday the garbage in my room was not taken and my room was not cleaned, how could I get a charge for garbage? now I stay in other hotels in vancouver too and here there is no such recycle garbage fee.

The location of this hotel is perfect. It's in a great area downtown next to restaurants and things to do. However, when I checked in the sheets had stains and there was hair all over one of the bedspreads. We did get moved to another room. The decor of the room was nice, however, the bathrooms were small and very dated. The room also had a AC window unit which I thought was a little strange. Also, if you're a light sleeper, this may not be the hotel for you. It's directly by the parking garage and they have a bar, which makes for a noisy atmosphere.

My best friend and I stayed for one night while in town for our annual pre Christmas dinner. The front desk staff were so helpful which made check-in smooth and efficient. Our room was perfect and we were surprised how quiet it was considering the hotel is located on a main street. The internet service was excellent and I cannot say enough about how comfortable the beds were...(we wanted to take the pillows home!). Our visit was complete with a wonderful brunch in the Park Restaurant...great service from Grace, Heidi and Wes. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer! Thank you to Eddy and his staff.

Stayed here multiple times with friends and family and always had a great experience. Location can't be better, staff is friendly and attentive in all departments and our needs are always met. The fact that they are pet friendly is a bonus! The are currently renovating their rooms and I can't wait to come back and see the upgrades!

From the outside, it looks like it's been transplanted from '50s Vegas, and the inside seems to continue that theme. The lobby is tiny and ever-so dark... a lack of natural light is compounded by the heavy use of dark woods and wall coverings from tan equally miserable colour palette. The rooms, thankfully are bathed in natural light, courtesy of windows that run the full width of the room. The room itself continues the same dated theme and is slightly on the small side (feeling a bit cramped with two people sharing the room. The beds and pillows were comfortable, though the bed nearest the window (twin room) is in direct line of the vent from the air conditioning unit, so that bed (or side of bed) can get very uncomfortably cold. Another problem with the room, is that the windows collect condensation like there's no tomorrow... on the first night, I actually thought I'd left the window open during a nighttime rainstorm! The bathroom, continues the dated feel with lights that appear to have been taken from a saloon bar from the 1800's mid west. Add to this faded salmon tiles next to nicotine coloured wallpaper, and you get the gist. Almost thankfully, its a small room, and could do with more counter space, especially if there's two people in the room. The comfortable bed and pillows will mean that this property will remain on my list of places to stay in Vancouver, but will need to be very competitively priced to warrant a return visit. Parking is provided on site for an additional charge

This is always the place I stay when I'm in Vancouver! We booked a room for concert at Rogers Arena. Great location, only a few bucks for a cab ride to the arena. Loads of places to eat nearby. All the staff were super friendly- even the dog that hangs out behind the desk.

Excellent experience in a wonderful location. Good staff, more than adequate property in a comfortable neighborhood with good access to all that Vancouver has to offer. Nice views out the street side of the hotel, quiet despite being in busy location. Can easily access transit , cabs, with wonderful area to walk for pleasure with a variety of eating establishments (including the hotel restaurant/bar). Friendly area which brings the neighborhood into the property in many ways.

We needed a hotel for a quick trip to Vancouver and thought this would be a good fit so we could walk along English bay in the morning. Unfortunately our room 424 facing the water was above the pub. On Saturdays they turn it into a night club. Our whole family was unable to sleep from 11 pm until 2 am. The glass in the windows need to be replaced for sound proofing. It was a horrible night for this mom!!!

Perfect location, comfy beds, super fun trivia night in the pub! I stayed next to the elevator and I didn't hear it once. Great restaurants within walking distance. Right next to the water and Stanley park!

My friend and I had an amazing stay at the Sands last weekend, staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms were so clean and nice! We will definitely be staying here again the next time we're in Vancouver.

My sister and I stayed at the best western. After reading some review we did not know what to expect however I can honestly say the location is fab the comfort of the hotel is fab and so was the food offered in bar .Everyone at hotel is very helpful and it made our stay most enjoyable would certainly stay again.

Our king room was very clean with a comfortable bed, large chair and ottoman and partial views of scenic English Bay. We were just steps from walking and biking paths along the beach and beautiful Stanley Park. We could walk to all kinds of restaurants along Denham St and Robson St, and the staff, both by phone and in person were so pleasant and helpful. We choose the parking and breakfast package online and the cooked breakfast in the lounge was well prepared. We had such a great stay we have booked two more nights at the end of our trip.

The hotel was average in terms of decor and appearance. Aside from aesthetics, the staff and guest room were satisfactory. Parking was an additional charge, and the lot did not appear to be secure nor under surveillance. For the price of the hotel, I would have stayed closer to the city/shops.

Very comfortable rooms, great location and very friendly staff. I stayed here while attending a concert with a group of friends. We had a great stay in their comfortable rooms. It is right in English Bay. Walking distance to lots of trendy restaurants. Bike rentals right across the street So you can bike the sea wall. I would highly recommend this hotel

Large, clean, comfortable and well equipped rooms in a perfect location. Right by English Bay with the number 5 bus service practically outside the door. There is a coin operated laundry service for guest use at only $2.25 per wash and $2 to dry; soap and dryer sheet can be bought at reception for $2. With an iron and ironing board in your room it makes travelling light easy. We ate in the hotel both evenings that we stayed and one morning. The food was good and portions large as usual in Canada. On the first evening we weren't very hungry so shared a half portion of nachos with chicken and failed to eat it all. If you prefer to have a take out in your room the hotel has no problem with that. Reception staff were really helpful and happily arranged a taxi for us when we left to get the Rocky Mountaineer to Jasper.

The room was fine and the restaurant exceptional. Front desk staff were very pleasant, but gave incorrect information. We needed to find a Walk-in medical clinic, and staff gave us an address quite a distance away. A Google search found there was one 2 minutes away around the corner. We wanted to know the nearest shuttle stop, & were told the nearest was at the Westin hotel. We walked 20 minutes to get there, only to find that it is only a summer stop. We then had to get a taxi to the nearest shuttle stop. On our last night in the hotel, there was a party downstairs & the drums & noise kept us awake until 2am. We were not impressed.

The staff at the Sands made our stay in Vancouver vary memorable. The restaurant and lounges were a great way to relax after a busy day checking out all the local sites and shopping. Had a great stay and will be back.

we stay here 2 -3 times a year, great location, and close to everything, walking distance to everything you need. location cant be beat! food and pub excellant value, close to great shopping and dining, always a joy to come back to, staff really care!

Adequate hotel. Central in this area to all food facilities. Walk round the corner and you will be in the heart of a variety of cuisines to choose from. Indian restaurant across the road as well and the beach not far away. Breakfast was pretty full on, but very good.

With English Bay beach less than 100 yards away, I always knew this would be a good base for our Vancouver trip. However, the hotel was very good, the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, and we loved it. The rooms were large and spacious with 2 queen beds. Very clean, and quiet, so we slept well. The Park Bar was awesome for food and great beer (Fat Tug IPA is a new favourite!). Would have liked to stay longer but the flight home interrupted an otherwise brilliant trip.

SANDS-BEST WESTERN+; 1755 Davie St., Vancouver, BC, Canada. Due to a Power Company Sanfu (BC Hydro) our Hi-Rise Apartment Bldg. was COMPLETELY without Electrical Power for many hours beyond the 3 Hour Pre-announced Scheduled Outage. Since there was NO ELEVATOR SERVICE and having left the Building prior to the Scheduled Electrical Shut-down and I live on the TOP (19th) Floor, am 83 years old and Have Heart Problems, chose to get a Motel Room for the night with my Wife, in our neighborhood i.e. the Sands-Best Western+. The least expensive room, (w/ Queen Bed; 1 Bedside Table; TV Remote w/NO WORKING MUTE BUTTON and NO BREAKFAST INCL.) with BCAA and BW Platinum discounts was C$330.65 plus $9.92 (Muni. Reg. Dist.) +$26.45 PST + $16.53 GST + $2.00 (Zero Waste Enviro Fee) = TOTAL C$385.55!! PARKING WAS $17+ Additional. This ROOM RATE in Late September at a Best Western is, in my opinion, EXORBIDANT. TRAVELERS BEWARE!!

Yes, the location of this hotel is good. BUT the room was dirty. There was hair, pubes and dirt in the corners of the bathroom. The windows and windowsill were so filthy it was like they hadn't been cleaned in a decade. Never mind the horrendously noisy 1980s window-fit air-conditioner that blew noisy dirty air straight into your face in bed at night. Unacceptable. Coffee/tea supplies meagre, the toiletries pathetic: 5ml of shampoo for two adults. I might expect this if I were paying for a 1 or 2-star hotel. But paying a premium in downtown Vancouver, this is unacceptable. The only saving grace was the new bed in the room: large and comfortable. But the management of this hotel has to stop cutting corners and put attention to details that matter.

My tour group stayed at this hotel for five nights. It's not the sort of property I would usually choose for myself, as it's rather old and worn, as other reviewers have pointed out, and doesn't have the boutique-hotel style and amenities I prefer. However, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the hotel, thanks to the unfailingly helpful and friendly staff, starting with the doorman and reception staff at check-in, and continuing all the way through to check-out. Housekeeping staff also did a great job keeping my room in tip-top shape. Yes, the elevators might be old and a bit slow, the AC unit was somewhat noisy, and the decor was dated, but everything in my room functioned well and was kept very clean. Our tour group had breakfast each morning in the hotel's conference center, and while the food wasn't of gourmet quality, I was impressed by the range of choices, including lots of healthy options - all kinds of fresh fruit and choices like unsweetened almond milk, which I prefer but hardly ever find at breakfast buffets! The location of the hotel was good, so close to English Bay, Stanley Park, and lots of dining options. One day when we'd been at Granville Island, I really enjoyed taking a short ferry ride and then walking along the seawall back to the hotel. But what I liked best about staying here was the helpful, friendly, efficient staff, who made my stay so pleasant and comfortable. I've stayed at fancier hotels that could learn about hospitality from the staff at this Best Western.

Great Location in English Bay - Walking stanley park is so easy and beach is Close. Good eating places nearby. Hotel is decent with helpful staff - rooms big and clean. Busy bar and Restaurant beneath - so get upper floor room

The room and beds were very comfortable and accommodating. It is right in town and close to Stanley park. We walked to catch a free bus to Capilano Bridge. There was plenty of places to eat and drink near by. Their food in their restaurant was very good. Enjoyed our stay!

We stopped in at the restaurant in the hotel for breakfast and waited for service for far too long. We finally got up and requested some service. After our order was taken we fell into a black hole and it was a timed 13 minutes before we got our coffee's. The food came in a timely manner and was very hearty and well prepared but just average. Low score because of the poor start.

Stayed here on a tour in August for 3 nights. The beds were comfortable, room clean, front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. Food in the on-site restaurant was tasty with happy hour specials. Just a block to the ocean, lots of good restaurants in the area. Would stay here again.

No matter if I have stayed at this hotel or socialized there..staff and management are always friendly and happy to assist. Great food, drinks and entertainment in a venue close to the beach and downtown Vancouver.

Everytime I go to Vancouver, BW Plus Sands is always my home sweet home. Location is juts around the corner from English Bay and you'll love seeing sunset. It is very quick walk to West End of Robson street, where all amazing Japanese restaurants are and middle of ramen district! Most importantly, this is the best hotel for the fireworks in English Bay. Yes, hotel itself is not brand new, but rooms are newly remodeled and everything is ver well maintained. I personally do not understand the needs to be in a new hotel that many people are negative about. Staff members are VERY friendly and knowledgeable and always working very hard, which I believe there are more important things to me. If you see this hotel is far from downtown main area on Robson, you can easily take a bus and the bus stop is across the street and very frequent. I cannot wait to go back and stay at the Best Western Plus Sands!

The elevators worked 1 day on our 6 day vacation to Vancouver, the access cards always needed re-keyed and the poor maintenance guy looked like he was going to fall over, he was working 6am to 10pm everyday we were there fixing door latches, elevators and everything in between. Great location though

Stopped for one night on our way to Vancouver Island. Location is ok ideally placed for Stanley Park a must see. Unfortunately also very close to some of the less desirable areas of Vancouver. The hotel itself is dated and the plumbing, particularly the shower are well over due for an upgrade.

Not a bad hotel and the restaurant is decent. However one of the two elevators was out of service and the other one stopped at every floor no matter what. I didn't mind taking the stairs but my wife did. Location is not bad close to the beach and the staff is pleasant and helpful.

My tour group of 31 arrived toting luggage to find one working elevator. Was told other had been out of order for weeks. Often in hotels, the shower water will not have even temperature, but here it went from cold to scalding. Great location including close to market. Breakfast very minimal and emptied quickly. Receptionists seemed unfriendly and annoyed by large group.

We stayed here as a family of 4 in August 2018 for 2 nights. Probably a nice Hotel / Motel in it's day - but tired now. - We looked out over tower block construction works out the back although we didn't hear too much noise - not attractive though. - The lifts were slow or out of order - The aircon was ridiculously loud - Bathroom was tired + The staff were really friendly and always willing to help. + The location is good being really close to Stanley Park. A few nice restaurants close by and a good base if you are driving - parking was circa $17 a day + Beds were comfortable

Stayed 3 nights before our cruise and found this ok for a stop over , pros are the staff are all great the bar / restaurant serve fantastic meals and drinks , the location is good close to all good restaurants / cons lifts are very slow , the front road side rooms are noisy but it can be blocked out by a noisy air conditioner but for the price you have to pay in Vancouver it is still ok we still enjoyed our stay !

Spent 11 days at the hotel. It is in a great location, very near English Bay. Like other reviewers have commented, the lifts were usually out of order, but I was lucky being on the 1st floor. The staff were wonderful and my room was great. The bed was so comfortable. Air conditioning was a bit noisy but I soon got used to that. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the noise in the dining room, the music was so loud some evenings that you couldn't talk. It would have been nice to have a quiet area for guests who don't like that type of thing! The meals were good and the breakfast special (Monday to Friday $6.25) was great and very filling. Internet is free.

Stayed for a few nights in May a family of 4. Comfortable beds and fresh decor but the bathroom could be updated a bit and noisy aircon attached to the windows I'm sure could be improved. Location perfect for exploring Vancouver. Walks along the beach to the aquatic centre and ferry boats is so handy. Lots of bars and restaurants on the doorstep, the bar downstairs was great with good food too. Cycle hire nearby to explore Stanley Park and a short bus downtown. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would book again.

Sadly we got our if there too quick to take picture. I paid and didn't even stay I didn't feel safe to stay he night. From parking in back alley to questionable restaurant (bar) to old and falling apart lobby, it was a rough start. Then the elevator wasn't working (ghetto!) and got to the room and there was a huge hole in the wall where the window (wall) AC was. Since it's in a building and neighbour where there are for sure rodents, I couldn't spend the night. Soooooo disappointed and upset the reviews I had read lead me to believe it was great. The staff I have to say, did do their best and were super understanding and called the manager late at night to help me cancel the second night.

What a fantastic hotel..check in was fast and curtous staff..bellhop to assist with the elevator, luggage, where the best places to eat, shop and visit! Located so you can view the ocean, a quick walk across the street puts you on the beach! Room was comfortable and cool!

We spent the last 5 days at this hotel. Average cost was $370 per night. First day we got stuck in the elevator. For the entire time either both or one of the elevators did not work. Two mornkngs we had no hot water for showers. I attached a picture of what we had to walk through in the hallway on our way out today. This place is in desperate need of refurbishment. Do not stay here. Not worth it. Not even for the convenience to English bay. There are nicer places and cheaper.

Our reason for staying at the BW Sands was to enjoy the "Celebration of Light" fireworks competition at English Bay. The hotel was pricy but that reflects both the time of year and the location, especially for this well established annual event. We were fortunate enough to have a newly renovated room on Level 1 (backing on to the parking lot) which was quiet, spotlessly clean and relatively large. The restaurants attached to the hotel offered great menus and they had a daily HH from 3 to 6. Kudos to the entire hotel staff who were friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. And, last but not least, the new window AC unit kept our room lovely and cool ALL night :-) (Vancouver was experiencing unusually hot weather at the time). We would recommend the Sands and return to the Sands but during the winter, I do hope that the prices drop !

We stayed here after a cruise. It was a short and inexpensive ride ($10 CAD) from the ship to the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They stored our luggage before and after our stay, gave us a map and some tips. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was great! The internet was unavailable for a time in the evening. The location was the best. Very close to lots of dining, bike rental and bus stop across the street. The beach is at the end of the road. We would book this again.

We had a late arrival on our first day and the staff was welcoming and had the room ready. The hotel location is great, a few blocks from the beach and about a 10 minute stroll to Stanley Park. There are lots of restaurants nearby.We stayed 6 days in two different rooms. Room 507 has a nice bay view between buildings across the street. It also has a very small balcony. It was a little noisy from street noise in this busy area of the west side. After we joined our tour group we had a room on the second floor back side, which was quieter, but had a parking lot view. Both rooms were clean but a little dated. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms were small, but everything worked. The most annoying thing were the elevators which did not work reliably, lurched when leveling, doors sometimes didn't open. Staff was quick to call the repairman, but the next day, different problems. Overall, I would stay there again, friendly helpful staff, great location, good restaurants nearby. Frequent bus service right in front of the building and easy taxi service. They do need to renovate rooms and replace elevators.

We chose this hotel for an over-night stay as we are Best Western members and drove into Vancouver from nearby Surrey to attend a concert. We found the front desk staff were welcoming and helpful. Upon entering our room, we were very disappointed to find a space with outdated furnishings, a TV that didn't work properly and a small cramped bathroom. The tub and shower fixtures were old and the tile discoloured. There was only one nightstand with a lamp so one side of the bed does not have light for reading. All this for $450 Cdn per night. There was a small slice of water view from the window but nothing to write home about. The following morning the elevators were not working properly. Upon reading recent TripAdvisor reviews, I realize many people have been making similar complaints to management for a while but the company appears deaf to customer feedback. Responses to the reviews are nothing more than form letters and it seems there is no real intent to improve things. Like others before us, I cannot recommend this hotel and we will never stay there again.

the hotel couldn't have been in a better location just short walk from beach,had a few meals in the bar always satisfied with the quality and service. Had a few drinks in both bars again service good. When we wanted to book to go Whistler reception staff arranged everything for us always helpful.Nothing too much trouble.

The hotel location is amazing. The food at the restaurant is very good. The reception can be very busy and the elevator was not working. And one of the staff knew how to manage the elevator doors donit was working again. I found that the bed sheets and pillows cocers were not replaced. It smelled like aftershave from previous guest. Blond hair on pillows was not clean.

Hotel was perfect for viewing the Celebration of Lights. It was 1 block away from English Bay, where the fireworks display was for the evening. Limited parking area for guests, get there early if you want one. No extra fee for the limited parking. NO Fee is unusual for a large city. The room was clean and kept well. There was a balcony on our 5th floor room, which was an upgrade by the Hotel upon our arrival. (to our surprise). We arrived early, and the staff suggested we take our luggage from the car and leave it in their care. They made sure that the luggage was in the room when it was available. Check in was efficient and quick. We were there for the Celebration of Lights, the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful with suggestions for viewing the Lights, even though they were obviously busy because of the Celebration of Lights. Room was clean, refrigerator worked, (no freezer) there was also a microwave. In the room there was coffee or tea, but across the street is a Tim Horton's… very convenient. The view from the balcony was a partial ocean view, due to the high rise building. We enjoyed our self. We will be back.

Stayed 4 nights at end of Trip from Calgary.had not read previous reviews as was booked by travel agent as part of a big trip. room was clean, but we did not like the sports bar attached being the only hotel option for breakfast.Also room facing Davie street was noisy, and A/c unit fixed to window was noisy and difficult to control, so we had to switch off overnight.good points were helpful Concierge, and good location, but had not expected the area to be so busy .

We stayed here for one night earlier this month and we were thrilled with the location steps away from English Bay and Stanley Park. However, several things about this hotel were disappointing. The rooms need a serious upgrade as they are very dated. The rooms are also very small which is something that cannot really be solved. Despite being able to see the ocean from our room, the view was obstructed by the dirtiest windows I have ever seen in a hotel, which was unfortunate. The staff was friendly and accommodating but the price of this one night hotel exceeded anything else we paid on a several week vacation, so I'm just not sure the value is there. Likely they are charging such high rates because of the location alone.

At every moment someone was offering assistance. Bed was very comfortable. Location is best in town. Next to beach, Stanley Park, restaurant was very reasonable. Exceeded all of my expectations. I will be back.

This was our first stay at the Sands on English Bay. It's been there a long time, so we had higher expectations. Staff was pleasant, but the room was very disappointing. The AC was noisy, the view was of a construction zone, and the bed seemed small. Disappointing for the price, though it's in a good location if you want to be in the West End. Tim Horton's across the street, Starbucks just steps away, and easy access to the beach.

This hotel is a typical Best Western property, well positioned, well-run, but dated. The staff were efficient. The room we had was 522, providing us a tiny glimpse of the sea. The ice machine was conveniently just outside, with a short walk to the lift. The room had coffee making facilities, however, tea selection was limited, so suggest if you like black tea bring your own supply. No robes, usual toiletries, but no razor in the small bathroom. Breakfast was fine and there was a special price the time we were there - plenty of refill coffee. As mentioned, location is where this property excels. One can walk to the ferry, which takes you to Granville Island, to Stanley Park, or to one of the many eating houses close by. There is also a bus route with a stop outside the hotel, which can take you to downtown Vancouver.

we are reward platinum members and normally enjoy Best Westerns, however this hotel was a quality mush less than we normally expect from a hotel. Lets start with the pro's.... the location was great. Only 2 blocks from sunset beach, the hop on hop off trolley and extremely close to several bars and restaurants. The restaurant onsite was very good and the service there was good. Con's.... the cost for the hotel is very high for the quality, I have no idea how this is a PLUS! The lobby is really small and gets congested with only 4-6 people. Our room was on a "priority" floor which I have no idea what that means because the view was to be mountain and what we saw was a run down building and a new building under construction. The room was small but clean, the air conditioning was a window unit that during the day did not cool off the room, you had to keep the curtains closed to keep it a little cool. The biggest issue I had was every time we left our room, even with do not disturb on the door the lady in the hall would yell "are you leaving for the day?" they also left carts, laundry and cleaning needs in the hall it was like a maze. I would not stay here again because of the cost for what you actually got. Best Westerns in Canada are very disappointing.

Bathroom was awful. Tub was moldy and grimy. Toilet ran all day and night. Ceiling above tub was disgusting. Water temp was scalding one second and freezing the next. AC barely worked. Pull out bed was broken and corner of mattress fell though every time someone climbed into bed. Unless the location is the only care you have, go elsewhere.

This hotel has with its Dark Brown interior an old fashioned look but rooms are actually wellequipped, clean and with comfortable beds. The staff is very friendly and you Can buy a good breakfast in the sportspub next Door. However the trafic noise from the Street - in spite Living on the 4th floor - was heavy...the Windows really needs to be shifted to more modern/isolated ones. A pity as the location is otherwise nice close to the sea and Stanley park!

Juan - who is the front door greeter/concierge could not do enough for us, whether it was directions or restaurant suggestion. Bayside restaurant in the hotel serves a great and inexpensive breakfast.

We had a wonderful experience staying at the Best Western Plus Sands hostel in Vancouver, BC! All of the staff was very efficient, pleasant and helpful! We liked that the hotel was very close to the beach, Stanley Park, and in the middle of a nice town with great shops, restaurants, and people! Clean Hotel with a great location. Directly across the street was a bike rental place, and Stanley Park was a block away. Perfect for a day of exploration. Many restaurants near by, and only a short taxi ride in the afternoon to the cruise terminal. Rooms were updated, spacious and clean. It is an old downtown hotel, so elevators were slow, but everything else was good. Service by the staff was great. Everyone was friendly and willing to help.

Great location by English Bay, Stanley Park, the many reasonably priced, good restaurants along Denman and Robson Streets and a good bike shop across the street. Good staff. Our room was recently renovated with new furnishings and windows. Still hard to overcome a small bathroom, small lobby-common areas, a semi-functional card reader in the elevator (we ended up always taking the stairs) and the constraints of an older building, e.g. through the wall A/C units. Probably more of a 3+.

The Sands was an okay sort of place. We had booked it not knowing much about the city but that we wanted to stay with the BW group. The staff were efficient and friendly and the room was okay. we were actually passing through and did not have much time to explore the local area. Stanley Park is nearby but we did not have time to visit. We used the restaurant attached to the hotel for an evening meal. The service was good and the food was okay. It was Taco Tuesday and when you have just come off a flight from the UK it did the job. The room was comfortable enough with four of us travelling together and we really had no complaints although it was not the best place that we stayed at. The only problem was getting a cab into the city the following morning. This took the best part of forty five minutes and it seems that Davie Street is not that popular a place with local cabbies at eleven in the morning.

Clean, quiet, great central location in a safe neighborhood. Value for your dollars. Be sure to check availability ahead of time as it is a busy establishment. Lots of shopping and nearby attractions, park your car once and walk, bike or water taxi to sightsee and shop. Gas town, great bars, and restaurants are only a couple blocks away.

Hotel one block back from English Bay. We had a great room 514 with a balcony from which we could see the bay and watch the comings and goings in the street below. The bathroom is rather small but perfectly adequate, but the bed is exceptionally comfortable. There is quite a lot of traffic noise but it quietens down at night. There is a coffee maker, microwave and fridge in the room. The hotel has car parking @ $17.50 a day. We would certainly stay here again.

Average three star hotel. Great location to Stanley Park and the ocean. Rooms are clean but small. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Parking is available. Compared to the size of the rooms, they are expensive.

Staff were very polite, nice clean spacious rooms with fridge, microwave and coffee machine. Very near the English Bay Area, Beach, shops and many restaurants. We are breakfast once and evening meal twice in the hotel, we'll priced and enjoyed by all the family.

The hotel is a little dated with windows which are single panel, so you get some street noise at night. The rooms are of good size and clean. They have specials daily in the restaurant, but only to be consumed in the restaurant. Coffee and tea is available in the room. You can get hot water from the restaurant.The prices vary depending of the day of the week; it is better to contact the hotel directly for reservations. Check out could be very slow with staff in training who for us make many mistakes. They offer Best Rewards Membership, but we have not received any card yet. They provide cover/open parking and accept pets, both for a fee.

We have been staying in this hotel for many-many years (probably more than 15). This is not the cheapest hotel for what it offers but you cannot find a better location – next to English Bay, Stanley Park and great restaurants on Denman Street. When we were checking in this time, we got no recognition for our BW Platinum Member status and no extra points were offered. When we got to our room, it was looking at the parking lot at the back of the hotel. When my husband called the front desk and asked for an upgrade to a view or to partial view room, and mentioned again our BW elite status and the fact that we have been very long-time loyal customers, front desk told him that there were no other rooms for our two night stay. She seemed to be completely unaware of BW membership upgrades or at least she did not mention it. Our room was spacious and generally clean. However, bathroom tile grout had visible mildew. They have paid parking but it is very tight and challenging to use. It is also getting more and more expensive every time we stay there. This time it was $17.49 per night.

Great location, close to restaurants, bike rentals, beach and Stanley Park. Excellent customer service as well! Room was great and the restaurant had good food also. There is easy public transit access as well.

Excellent check in process, delightful large very clean room and bay window with a peak view of the bay. Easy walk to the beach and very decent eatery on first level but what made it special for my daughter and I were the font desk folks and servers in the restaurant. All were very happy to see that we were taken care of and we will book this again.

The only good thing about the hotel was the location and friendly front desk staff. We were given a suite and told it was the best in the hotel. It stunk like mould and had a sunroom that had broken windows that were all steamed up. The kitchen had no oven, only a broken dirty cooktop. The bathroom had mould in the shower stall and no ventilation. Great location close to the beach. Lobby was renovated and the staff were friendly.

My sisters and I stayed for 11 days and could not have asked for a better place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone who works there. But Vincent and Juan are the best there is, they went out of their way to help and always went above and beyond. Rooms are being updated and for a hotel that allows pets, we never heard any. Well done, this place was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

the room was clean, quiet, and the food in the pub was also good, but a breakfast special wasn't posted in the pub, but in the elevator so missed out on a much cheaper price. Exceptional service at the desk by a trainee, a young lady named Dauphine, she worked through my requests for public transportation, other hotel guests waiting and phone calls without any sign of panic.... and with a smile...well done. This hotel is very close to Kit.'s beach, Granville island from the beach in a small tourist boat, downtown and a short easy drive to Stanley park

We have just returned from this hotel as a family of 4. We had a 2 part stay here within 1 week. We found it very expensive and even though it's location is “Amazing” it has limited views. its very outdated construction , means single metal glazing , “jumbo jet “noise air con and a very poor bathroom. We found the staff very friendly. For a large hotel brand, this is a poorly maintained and outdated example at a very high price. However still enjoyed our stay .??

We checked in on 31st May 2018 and from that point onwards we started to face difficulties, we were clubbed to a group which we dint belonged to, inspite of 5 rooms booked well in advanced all were given on different floors and different sizes. Restaurant manager Heidi was very rude with us, we were wrongly billed for the breakfast which was included in package. No courtesy shown by staff, Showed their height of rudeness. Not at all recommended.

We had 5 rooms in this hotel (304,306,219,419,119) and 3 days of stay and the service which we got was terrible. Over here the staff is very rude they dont know how to talk to other guest. We had breakfast included in our package they said we had pay for it irrespective that it was already included and the previous day we were served and again rudely One of the manager name ‘HEIDI' she was so rude and didn't bother to hear that our package included breakfast she even started yelling at our and then also we were polite. I have stayed in many hotels but no one provides such terrible service. I hope everyone refers this review before booking. Thank you
