The Best Western Chesterfield Hotel is a charming centrally located hotel in downtown Trondheim, within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, pubs, museums and concert hall as well as the bus/train station. The hotel has 54 refurbished well-equipped rooms, and a conference room for 20 guests. Our large rooms make the hotel suitable for families. We are a 100% non-smoking hotel. Make sure to visit Nidarosdomen, the oldest church in Norway. Enjoy your stay.
A nice hotel situated centrally in downtown Trondheim, within walking distance of the city centre shops, railway station and tourist attractions. Although they do not cater for evening meals you can purchase a ticket to eat at the sister hotel a few minutes walk away. The breakfast was quite basic with a great deal of choice. Room was very spacious and unfortunately during our stay, in July and very hot, the air conditioning was not working but we were supplied with a fan.
I stayed here for 2 nights in August 2018. The room was clean and much have been renovated within the last couple of year. It had a quiet location as it was facing a courtyard, so I slept well here. The selection at breakfast was basic but good. The highlight is the freshly baked bread. There is a 4 miunte walk to the railway station, which is the reason i chose this hotel as I arrived and departed Trondheim by train.
We liked this centrally located hotel. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go from here. The staff was helpful and friendly. The room had a fridge. The breakfast was excellent -- and best of all the bus from the airport stops right in front of it.
The hotel is a bit worn, which shows both in the rooms and in the facilities in the reception area. The check-in was OK, but if several guests are arriving at the same time, expect waiting times. The staff is very friendly, though, and they do their best under the circumstances. One important point to notice is that the hotel has no parking spaces, so if you need to park during regular office hours, it will be very expensive, as rates are high in Trondheim center. Even at the nearest parking house near the railway station the prices are quite stiff. However, in weekends and overnight stays from 8 PM to AM is free, and it is quite easy to find somewhere to park nearby. The double room we got, facing the street, must have been a smoking room earlier, although smoking is not allowed now. Some noise from the street and very hot on sunny days. Sleeping comfort was OK, and bathroom had a lot of space with a good shower. The free wifi was not very strong and quite slow at times. The room had a little boiler for tea or coffee. Breakfast was a bit on the limited side, but had scrambled eggs and sausages, plus the regular selection of cheese, ham and cereals. The pro for this hotel is the location in town. There are some minor cons one can live with for the price.
Very good located in the city centre. The breakfast was ok and had a rich variety. The room was spacious. The staff was very friendly. No own parking possibilities, you need to park in the street, what was easily possible in that week-end
Overall, the hotel is good for both short and long stays in my opinion and there is nothing to complain. I enjoyed the breakfast as well, it was basic but there was plenty to chose from. The hotel itself feels a bit old and outdated, so do the rooms and bathrooms, but this did not bother me. The staff was friendly and helpful giving us information. The bed was fine, but I would prefer a better mattress.
Rooms to the street are bad with no air condition or ventilation and a lot of traffic noise. The rooms to the back are bigger and with wooden floor and quiet but still no ventilation or sir condition. The breakfast is poor with very little hot food. The price is low but not low enough. Find something else.
The hospitality at the hotel was amongst the best I have experienced in the past one year. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. There was free coffee and snacks and lounge for the visitors on the ground floor. The added advantage is that the airport bus stop is just at the entrance of the hotel- a very good "step" for the tired traveller coming in and for the early morning traveller going to the airport. will stay again :)
I have now stayed in two hotels in Trondheim and the difference between the Chesterfield Hotel and the Comfort Hotel is like the difference between day and night. While the Chesterfield has super quiet and clean rooms and a super cozy dining room, the Comfort gave me three sleepless nights listening to street drunks and a steel band at 4 am plus a jammed dining room with all the charm of a third world bus station. And I forgot to mention, the Comfort bathroom where the oh so modern designer has arranged it so that all those in the sleeping part can watch you as you shower and use the toilet. And one pays about 50 dollars each night for the pleasure of staying at the Comfort (sic) Hotel. Everything the Comfort hotel lacks is found at the Best Western Chesterfield. Super friendly and helpful staff, central location without the street noise, and banquet like breakfasts which may be eaten in a carpeted dining room with super comfortable and charming booths. Unlike the Comfort hotel with oh so trendy but super uncomfortable seating groups in the lobby, the Chesterfield's lobby is filled with super comfortable chairs reminiscent of a fine club in London.
The breakfast was almost terrible! Very poor choice, very bad cleanliness (on the table, some plates and glasses were very dirty). It was not pleasant to eat breakfast there. The advertisement of the breakfast of this hotel says that there is a reach choice of products and the chef creates the menu. It is not true! Should be improved!!!
We stayed at the Best Western Chesterfield, Trondheim, Norway for two nights (16 & 17 Sept) at the end of our Norwegian Fjords cruise. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the train and bus stations, shopping and restaurants. Our room on the 7th floor had large skylights with great city views. The room was very comfortable and clean.
The hotel is located very conveniently, it is in the city centre and there is parking in the nearby, the staff are friendly and nice, helpful, but the rooms are not that great, the single rooms are quite small and with very few space available, but they are clean. Breakfast is a bit poor in choice but not bad.
This hotel is very close to the railway station and most local attractions are within a walking distance. We had a very large three bed family room with comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet was alright but not as rich as one could expect. There is free coffee and tea all hours. The staff was very helping. I can recommend this hotel. It gave us good value for the money.
We had no special expectations before going to the hotel. The exterior was dated but that could be excused. Checking in and opening the room door (located in 1st floor, same as reception) to our big surprise there was a staircase down. Entering the staircase and walking down we were met with bad smell and the air was humid and hot. There was no window that could open below street level and no extra ventilation. We spent a miserable night with sporadic sleep and checked out the next morning and found another hotel 200kr more a night that was bliss compared to this. I can not vouch for any other room but stay away if you need a family room!!! The photo is what met us opening the room door.

Hello! We are sorry you had a less than satisfactory experience at our hotel. The room you stayed in is located in the 1st floor as you said, but there should be enough ventilation to keep it comfortable anyways. The reception can turn on extra ventilation during nights and periods of warm weather if needed. This had obviously not been done enough during your stay. We apologize for the bad smell. We do not have an explaination for this as it has not been a problem lately. We appreciate your review and hope you would consider staying with us again sometime, and that we can provide a room that suits you better. Have a nice summer! Morten Hegle Hotel Manager
On their sign it is written 695 kr a night for single room, but I was told that 795 kr was the cheapest prise for a single room. Besides, they did not have the hygiene accessories (which was written that the guests could get if needed).
We stayed a couple of nights on the 7 th floor. Great view over the rooftops. The room was really hot when we arrived( solar heating!) reception gave us a remote to turn on the air conditioner which we had to return.I was surprised there wasn' t one in the room. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was fine. Convenient location and very close to the station. Good breakfast and the staff worked hard to re-stock items. Terrific cafe across the road -MaFrere- excellent coffee. Free tea and coffee at the hotel but the water was never hot. Would happily return.
The hotel is within 5min walk from station and citycenter so conviniently located. But truth must be told; it desperatly needs an renovation! Everything inside is old and worn especcially the rooms. In the room there is a fridge and and coffee/teakettle. Tv has some english channels but reception of the signal wasn't optimal so the screen was a bit "snowy". Breakfast was ok, will get you started, but has a high "fixit yourself" level. Also the yoghurt was kept out of the cooling which looked a bit odd to me. Free WiFi was good. Free wafflemaking between 18 and 21 certainly is a plus and as BW rewardsmember I thrive to select BW-hotels, but I was a bit dissapointed in this one. Stayed one night on a traintour. But for a next visit I would definatly go somewhere else; the neighbours for example
Closed to the train station, easy to go everywhere. The staffs were nice, we arrived at 7:00 and they let us get into the room. The breakfast was simple but good. I loved smoked salmon!! The room was large but simple, good enough.
Even if situated in the middle of the city center in Trondheim, we had peaceful nights during the week end to a reasonable price. The breakfast was healthy and sufficient and the staff friendly. Except the very nice possibility to prepare our own waffles, this is not a luxury place. We had an excellent view over the harbour, parts of the city and the forest area "Bymarka" from our room. Best value for money in Trondheim?

Hello, Thank you so much for a very kind and thorough review. We feel that you have had the experience we want all our guests to have, and it seems you have gotten to enjoy most of the amenities at the hotel as well. Thanks again for the positive words and welcome back to us again soon! Best regards, Morten Hegle Hotel Manager
Overall we were pleased with this hotel. The breakfast wasn't bad, a good selection. You were able to go back throughout the day for hot drinks, tea and coffee but the water was never warm enough in the urn. They had a waffle maker which we were free to use if needed. Our room was OK! It was a bit dark, very cramped. The room opposite was much bigger sigh! The cleaners came in every day but the cleaning left a lot to be desired. Carpets were not hoovered, and the general hotel could have done with a good dust. The staff were lovely though and very helpful!

Stay away from this hotel! We stayed here last Feb 28-Mar 1 2017. We booked a room thru booking.com for a room with 1 double bed and 1 single bed. The lady in the front desk confirmed upon checking in that the room is good for 3. But when we arrived at our room it only has 1 double bed. I tried to call the front desk thru the hotel's telephone but it is not working! The phone has no dial tone!! Need to go down from the 5th floor down to the lobby just to inform them! I talked to the lady in the front desk (which is not that accomodating! And doesn't even greet you!) and she told me that it was booking.com's fault! My god, how can that be? She even confirmed upon checking in that our room is good for 3! She said she will just give us an extra bed for one night and on our second night we can tranfer to another room. But I declined the offer cause we will still be leaving the hotel early the follwing night. And It is already too much work packing again our things and transfer to the different room! Anyway, When we arrived at our room. We saw the extra bed, but no linens on it. The linens are on the table! So that means it is our job to fix the bed and put linens on it????! The room is so small that we can't barely roam around! This is the Worst hotel I have ever stayed!!!
The public facilities should perhaps have a refresh now however the overall standards were good and the staff friendly. They have a great free buffet breakfast - especially as I love smoked salmon. It is well located in Trondheim. The only downside is there do not have their own car parking facility - but on road all around.
I stayed there from Monday till Friday. Upon arrival I found my way through a labyrinth of corridors until I arrived at my room. There is a lift, a very slow-moving one at that, so it was a better idea to take the stairs to my room on the second floor. The room looked bare even if there was a double bed, a small desk and two uncomfortable chairs, probably mostly because there was no carpeting. The bathroom was OK without being fascinating. But OK, I thought - it is also an inexpensive hotel. You cannot get everything for nothing. Well, this turned out to be very true. There is a TV set of very bad quality with few channels, mostly Norwegian. The bed is OK. The room was clean upon arrival. That turned out to be very important because thereafter it was cleaned only once the entire week. The other days nothing, not the bathroom, not the room itself. Nor was the bed made. Only the towels were changed. I cannot recall having experienced that in any establishment that calls itself a hotel. Breakfast is quite good. The room where it is served is as little hospitable as the rest of the hotel, but at least you get a decent start on your working day. The location of the hotel is not charming either as it sits next to a fairly big street, but you are close to the city center. As you can see - there are pros and cons. But the pertinent question is this: Would I make another reservation there? The answer is no.
Stayed for two nights. My room was at the end of a labyrinth, up some stairs, no lift to the room. Nice clean room with a fantastic comfy bed. Windows in the ceiling, as the room was on the top. I was lucky with the room because my travel companion had bigger room but bath room was run-down. Breakfast not a blast. Scrambled eggs were cold. Continental breakfast barely continental. Temperature was too high were the food was. No coffee. Most of the staff seemed not very friendly. Great location in the centre and just next to the train station. Because of the room, the price and the location. I'd stay there again. Nothing else.

Hello Marta G, Thanks first of all for your review. We appreciate all feedback regardless of the content. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed both the room and the comfortable bed. I can see we have some areas for improvement, especially with the breakfast and our level of service. You write that you would stay here again, and we surely hope this is the case, so we can give you a better experience. Best regards, Morten Hegle Reception Manager/Hotel Manager
As a business traveller that averages up to a hundred hotel nights per year I can safely say that I know hotel standard. Best western Chesterfield easily qualifies as one of the worst in its price range. It's incredibly run down, things are literally falling apart. It's DIRTY. It's COLD. The fact that the room came with a portable heater, the kind you would use in your trailer, doesn't really alleviate that fact. Wifi is as fast as a modem from the 90's, and then I got "lucky" and got a room with decent coverage... Normally I'd wait until after my stay to write a hotel review but in this extraordinary case there is no need. I would outright discourage anyone from booking this hotel for any reason. Any other choice in Trondheim in this price range is far better.
This is a hotel that couldn't be recommended. Already on check-in time there were some problems. I got refuse when I asked to change my bank card that should have been charged. Got a key with a room number, got to supposedly mine room - couldn't open it - had to return with all my luggage back to the lobby to be informed that the room number written on my key holder was wrong. Next day. The key just stopped working, nobody's at lobby, had to wait for ten minutes to find someone able to re-issue the key. Room. It was hardly noticeble that anybody has been doing any cleaning there during my 5-days long stay. For these 5 days my bed wasn't made up even a single time. Hotel. Hasn't been rennovated for ages. Everything is very old, rusty. Overall: avoid.
Got this hotel in the package with air and car rental. It's ok but nothing special. The beds are comfortable and the staff helpful. Management is not friendly if you want to make changes in your reservation. We paid for several days and left after the 1st night. Breakfast was ok. Beans, bread, hard boiled eggs and sandwiches stuff is what you will get. Don't have expectations or you will be disappointed.
Very good location, just in the middle of Trondheim. Not renovate since many years ago. Carpet on the floor gives dust. The shower was destroyed. Nice staff and cleaner I met in the morning. Nice price and ok breakfast for 1 night

Good location for travelers without a car. The hotel is older, lobby area seems dark. Breakfast buffet not exciting. We had upgraded rooms on seventh floor with large skylight window views that were great. Otherwise room was adequate. Overall, ok but not interesting.
Came here on business ( paid for by the company) - disappointed with the hotel which was very old fashioned (read worn out) and in a noisy part of town - breakfast was limited with tinned fruit ( not fresh). Staff were friendly and room of a good size with modern(ish) bathroom - in a central location for getting about the town - overall just about ok but wouldn't recommend!
Great central location, at a short walking distance from the harbour/railways station and the city centre. Lovely interior design while the outside façade is outdated and disappointing. Reception: The reception seems understaffed. There is only a single receptionist who, apparently, had to manage the breakfast area and seemingly other tasks to do. Not surprisingly, there were issues regarding service quality. The receptionists were slow and not always available at the counter. Breakfast: Overall ok, but not very varied. Always the same offer over five days. Housekeeping: The custodian used to come to the room in the mid-later afternoon!
Nice affordable room, in a very centrally located hotel. Big room, and in my case also a living room and bathroom with bath and shower. Short distance to the train station, busstation and shopping centre. Breakfast was not spectacular, but decent. Friendly hotel personell.
The location is just perfect, you're in the center of the city and the bus station is right in front of the hotel. The rooms are comfortable. Breakfast is amazing!!! Very friendly staff. I can recommend this place.
Pros: Easy access to airport bus, station, city center. Reasonably priced (for Norway). Friendly service. Good beds! Cons: Average rooms, average breakfast, some street noise in my (street side) room.
I needed a hotel on Black Friday, to collect a new car, this hotel was very central but had no facility for car parking - even though promised on booikg this hotel. Rooms clear & good size, but tired. Breakfast average, though I cannot understand why they produce this " Rubber " scrambled eggs ! Tasteless & not good ! On the sunny side, great Sushi restaurant next door, so I would use this hotel again.

Dear guest, Thank you for writing a review regarding your stay at our hotel! We do not have a facility connected to the hotel itself, but we do sell tickets and guide our guests to a nearby facility which offers longterm parking for a more reasonable price than offered on the streets. Your comments on the breakfast is noted, as we always try to improve different aspects of our breakfast. Thank you again for your review and we hope we can welcome you back to us some day! I stayed two nights at this hotel. Morning showers in my room (501) were cold "camp showers": 15 seconds of hot to cold water, turn off, turn on for another 15 seconds of hot to cold cycle. So this is an old hotel with plumbing problems. The room rates are 50% of higher end hotels (Radisson), but you get 25% of services and room amenities. You do not get fresh towels if you stay multiple days. When I checked out, the credit card reader would not accept my Eurocard! On the positive side, the hotel is located in the center of transit and social activities in Trondheim. But many other hotels have the same claim. I have not stayed at any other hotel in Trondheim sentrum, but I suggest not staying at Best Western Chesterfield.
The hotel is very much accessible as I located it right away when I got into the city. I didn't have a hard time tracing it using google maps as I am rarely in the city for a tour. I stayed in a single room, in the ground floor (though I preferred a room situated in the upper floors to have a look at the view which the city offers). I loved the room that I occupied for two nights. It was spacious enough for me or for any single occupant. The room was cleaned well and I especially loved the lighting fixture as they have lights in almost all parts of the room. That was really great and lovely for me. The bed was very comfortable and as expected, I slept well on it. The bathroom was in order but I tried asking for the complimentary toiletries and they ran out of them already. The internet was okay too though sometimes I experienced disconnection, but still it was fine. I liked the quietness of the room except during the serving of the breakfast as it's disturbing due to the clanking of plates and all. But after that, the noise level is tolerable and is quiet again. There's a limited variety of dishes served for breakfast and I loved the dining area as it made me feel like I was from another era. In general, it was a satisfying stay for me and I would definitely visit the place again.
We stayed 3 nights at the BW. It is located close to the railway station so we were able to walk there, as well as walk to most of the tourist attractions in the town. Our room was on the 7th floor, and part of the ceiling was glass, covered by a number of folding blinds which did not keep the light out satisfactorily. Maybe it's a bonus in winter, lying in bed watching the northern lights, but in mid summer it can be a nuisance if you are used to sleeping in a dark room. We did not sleep well for that reason.. The bed was ok and quite comfortable. With so much light in the room, the dust on surfaces was more obvious. The breakfast buffet was fine, with a fairly good selection. Coffee and tea making facilities were not in our room, but available downstairs. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Nice large room, comfy bed, nice and quiet. Awesome breakfast, so much choice, typical scandinavian with a good selection. Coffee and tea making downstairs. Not too far to walk to Nidaros Cathedral, Bryggen, and all the major local attractions. Umbrellas available in reception. All in all a good, comfortable hotel, not flashy but I was more than happy with it.
The double bed was actually formed of two singles that keep separating creating a hole in the middle. They don't have a parking space available at the location so we paid a lot for the parking. Also they could work more on keeping the place clean. The wireless and the elevator are not very reliable. I liked the waffles that where offered everynight. Breakfast is quite ok.
my husband stayed in trondheim for 2 nights in september 2014 on a 2-week scandinavian trip. this hotel is in a central place with easy walking from the hotel, and the bus from the airport drops you off right in front of it. we had great luck with best westerns in norway, and this one was no exception. it was clean, the room was fairly roomy, and the booking and check-in process was easy. the front desk was helpful with whatever we needed. i must say my favorite part was the food - the evening make-your-own waffles with jam and brown cheese, and the full traditional norwegian breakfast in the morning were both really tasty. in addition to restaurants nearby, there is also a grocery store almost across the street - restaurant prices are definitely something to get used to (get ready to spend a lot of money at tgi fridays for dinner, yes tgi fridays!), so it was a fun and handy alternative to have the grocery store close by. i would definitely stay here again if i was visiting trondheim!
