« Close to town and friendly staff »

Excellent location, only a 5 -10 minute walk to the CBD. The apartment we stayed in for 8 nights was a 2 bed, 2 bathroom self-contained apartment (with a perfectly acceptable laundry in a cupboard including a dryer and clothes airer). An open planed apartment with full kitchen amenities, dining for 4 and a lounge area leading out onto the balcony (also included dining for 4) overlooking the old railway, the river and CBD. With a split system in each of the bedrooms plus the living area, we were kept very cool. The pool area was inviting, clean and relaxing, car parking was easy to get into and secure and the staff were helpful and friendly. If you are using a pram as we were there are only stairs to leave through the main entrance but the lady on reception told us we were able to use the car park entrance to go in and out which made life easier. This establishment is good value for money. Thank you Islington Apartments for a comfortable stay :-) Downfalls werent many but every place I have stayed does have them. There was a light just outside our aparment and it came though the side of blind a little, we just put a cushion there and that was rectified and there was a little noise from the roadworks obviously no fault of the managers there and I'm sure they wont be occuring for much longer.

« Warning Rude And abrupt Manager »

Rooms average and not very well cleaned. From the moment we walked in the carpets were heavily stained and there was a funky smell in the room. The smell turned out to be the mouldy dish washer. The trap inside had not be cleaned in ages going by the amount of mould inside. The rooms as aside the day Manager was extremely rude and abrupt when asked the simplest of questions. Upon checking out I stood in amazement as the Manager was dealing with a female customer and arguing with her over a request for extra towels and blown light bulbs in the room. The day manager is in serious need of a customer relations seminar or just simply needs a new job and I am thinking the latter. The female day manager from my experience and from what I saw and heard from her is the very reason why you should avoid staying here. She treats the the simplest of requests as a direct insult directed at her. Far from impressed.

    « WARNING! »

DO NOT STAY HERE! My mother and I stayed here as we needed a comfortable apartment to recover from a surgery my mum had! Well we were wrong!! Place was filthy and had an awful mouldy smell Couch was covered in stains and smelt horrible. Dirty Marks, dints and cracks all over the walls. Dishes were dirty from previous people and cleaners obviously hadn't even checked to see if they'd been washed. The towel rack in the bathroom was broken, Dirty marks on chairs at the kitchen table Air cons wouldn't work the power was turning on and off on and off constantly just to the aircons which was weird so it was constantly beeping and too hot! Phones do not work if you need to ring reception for any enquiries I do not recommend staying here if you are after a nice clean comfortable stay. As we told the lady at reception about these situations she started getting defensive and raising her voice "oh we haven't had any complaints before" and proceeded to do nothing about it. I asked if there were any shops around and she was just down right rude when she spoke to me! So then we decided to check out and find a new motel as it was just dirty gross and uncomfortable and the service was disgraceful!. Went to check out and I politely told the lady we can't stay here it's just too uncomfortable and dirty and I showed her the pictures and she raised her voice and started yelling at me saying I would not get a refund as we had 4 more nights still and told me I didn't even give her a chance to fix it. As I mentioned, we had told her before and she never offered to move us or fix anything! She also so gave me attitude and said to go somewhere else! Terrible! The short dark hair lady was extremely rude and I didn't expect to cop this abuse from her as I was the polite unhappy customer. Now we are at Mariners North holiday apartments with an amazing ocean view and in a beautiful clean fresh smelling apartment. Beautiful decor, feels more like home and not a dungeon!!

    « Weekend stay »

The rooms were very large. The location was excellent, close to the city and restaurants and cafes and the weekend markets in the main street. Full kitchen and laundry services in the apartment. Air conditioning not working very well though (not very cool and one leaked!) Some more or larger furniture choices would have been better and no seating was provided on the large balcony. Free wifi but being able to actually get in in the room was impossible (had to sit out on the tiles in the thoroughfare).

« Very good 17 day holiday, a good place to stay »

The apartment was a one bedroom very well equipped ,Washing machine and dryer. Nice bathroom. Comfortable bed. The balcony was on the small; side ,we were on the second floor and the apartment overlooked the swimming pool. .Not much of a view.. It was a 25 min walk to the Strand which was on the beach with a view to Magnetic Island. We enjoyed our walk along the strand, fantastic views from Castle Hill. A 15 min walk to the town centre, We would stay again.

    « Great place to stay :) »

I recently stayed here for 4 nights with a friend & had a wonderful time. The unit we stayed in was beautifully presented & so comfortable. The pool & BBQ Area is one of the largest I have ever seen. The managers Natasha & Wayne were so helpful & friendly. I recommend these apartments to anyone traveling to Townsville.

    « Worst Customer service »

THE worst customer service I have ever encountered from a Manager. So very defensive, rude and unhelpful. Fire Alarm in room was missing the cover and backup battery; no balcony furniture; bathroom sink hole missing; dishwasher broken; bedside table missing; lamp missing; etc etc endless.

« Had Positives and Negatives!!! »

We booked months in advance for 3 nights for a family of 2 adults and 3 children. The prices were fantastic and the accommodation itself was fantastic. This place had the potential to be amazing unfortunately it's not. There were only enough beds for 4 people so one had to sleep on the couch which wasn't a sofa bed, the air conditioning was awful and did not work properly in any room. Luckily we stayed in winter months would hate to stay in summer months with air cons like that. Last of all the managers were so rude it made us feel like we were an inconvenience to them and they were not interested in the least and couldn't have cared less! We will not be returning to stay here again unfortunately!

« Good Location to everything and handy for families »

Good Location to everything and handy for families or couples traveling together separate bedrooms and bathrooms, kitchen and lounge make it a comfortable stay. Close to most extractions by car and walking only a couple of blocks to city.

« Coming back for sure! »

The room was clean and beautiful! It was easy access to the reception, basement and rooms. Although the wifi was abit slow and the car park spaces was a very tight fit. Our stay was very comfortable with a baby and the staff were very friendly. I'd recommend people to stay here was a pleasant stay and perfect for people who want to be in the CBD.

« Poor service and cleanliness »

Really disappointed with my experience, ended up getting a disgusting and dirty room, pee stains and damaged balcony roof from a BQQ. Took a half of my Saturday to get moved to a new room, service did not exist at the Reception.. pool wasn't any fun, need s a deep end.Got given a new room, clean and actually usable. Definitely wouldn't come back!

    « Average Standard »

Stayed overnight in a spacious 2 bedroom unit. We usually stay at apartments just up the road near Hogs Breath Cafe (and we'll being going back to them), but thought we'd try BW. Check In - via intercom, impersonal and not really welcoming. Room - spacious, semi clean. For a relatively newish unit, very knocked around, loose light fittings, dirty showers, loose towel racks, carpets needed a good vacuum, room smelt like a pet treatment! Bedding comfortable and linen clean. Pool - large lap pool but side walls need a good clean - surrounds a little tired. Location - close walking to the CBD Probably not what we were expecting from the BW chain. Very average and a 3/5 is being generous . Won't visit again...sorry.

    « Well positioned »

We thoroughly enjoyed our time staying here. Although reception is closed on weekends and public holidays and we were there over Easter, so never saw reception open, our keys were left for us appropriately with full instructions about how everything should work and it did work like clockwork. Apartment was clean and comfortable (beds were very firm though, so for some this may not be comfort) and apartment easily accessed by a lift from the secure undercover carpark. Balcony looked over the old historic railway station building and part of Ross creek. Cost was quite reasonable for the size of the apartment and the facilities. Balcony was quite pleasant in the afternoon and evening for eating.

    « Nice location »

Check in was simple and quick. The location was central enough. The pool was a little disappointing but overall a nice stay.Allocated car parks but ours had been parked in and as the hotel reception isn't manned over the weekend it took some sorting out by us as there was no one at the premises to help.

« Had to stay in tville after daughters surgery, »

I found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was a problem. Our apartment was very clean and the pool, gym and sauna were just great, definitely will be back and recommend to my friends and family, p.s, having a secure parking spot and secure complex was a great bonus, thank you

    « Amazing! Best placed we've stayed! »

We booked here as we were looking for, modern, homely feel where we could cook in the room rather thamn eating out often. The receptionist we were greeted by was very friendly and covered everything. When we got to the room it was very modern, very clean and exactly what we wanted. Tv and dvd player, working wifi with the modem in the room, full use of yoiur own washmachine and tumble dryer. It was a home away from home. We were sad to leave! Pool area was beautiful and lovely lounging chairs. Only downfall is the gym didnt have air con so got very hot in there. But thre gym has got everythimg you need. All in all loved it! One off the best places we've stayed. We loved it that much we booked an extra night! Derfinately recommend!

« No after hours contact - very rude managers »

We arrived at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon and were met by instructions on the reception window on how to check in after hours. Aparantly reception is only open during office hours Mon-Fri 9-5 (weird for a hotel?). The phone number provided was constantly engaged and the intercom was broken. We tried calling out - no response. I then rang Best Western customer service in Sydney. After about 30minutes on the phone it ended with them saying, 'sorry we can't help you'. They couldn't reach the managers and they had no recording of our booking..I am still confused as to how a hotel that is backed by an international hotel chain doesn't have contact numbers of its individual managers. So we were left stranded sitting outside a gated hotel with our 4 children in the sweltering humidity of Townsville. I would love to have left but we had already paid. After 45min my husband got inventive and got another guest to let him in and direct him to the managers unit. My goodness wasn't he met with a tirade of abuse! How dare we go and knock on their door she said, and fancy doing that on a Sunday afternoon she said! She unlocked the afterhours safe and got our key - which turned out to be for the room next door. Turns out, there was a major glitch with their after hours service and their phone lines were down. No great apology though. And of course we understand that stuff happens -but the character shown by management was appauling. We normally stay at Itara apartments when we are in Townsville - but instead chose the Best Western because it's proximity to the airport. Oh and the room was beautiful - one of the nicest apartments we've ever stayed again, but we won't be back.

    « Bad night sleep »

Not very good accommodation had to sleep on the floor in lounge room as the blinds in bed room was broken and there was a light straight out side my room and light the room up like day light. Would not recommend to stay here. Also air conditioner did not work very well at all.

    « Rude manager,stained furniture, unclean rooms. »

During the duration of the stay the manager threatened multiple times to evict us on no grounds,Then decided to give us a $500 cleaning bill after we cleaned the Rooms ourselves! On arrival the place was not clean and damaged. Never again...

« Short Visit to Townsville »

Recently went to Townsville to visit family. Four night stay at Islington Apartments. The location is great, and they have a secure garage for parking. My only comment is that the apartments are apparently privately owned, and furnished individually by the owners. Our apartment, although suitable for 6 people (if you used the sofa/couch bed in lounge) was really only designed for 4 people. The rooms were spacious and clean but extremely sparsley furnished. The sofa couch bed was badly stained on the mattress, thankfully we didn't need it. And the springs were very easily felt. The couch was worn, and you could feel the springs on the armrest. In the kitchen, there were just the basics for cooking. The lounge only had a couch that seated three people, and there was no other place for someone to sit and comfortably watch tv unless they used the dining chairs. I found that a little odd. The air conditioners didn't have enough remote controls, and they were either on or off. The remotes were next to useless. No light bulbs in the lamps, and a very cheaply furnished unit. I found the whole complex a little lifeless. Very stark. Wouldn't be on my list of places to stay again. Although there was no particularly big problem.

« Nice clean room BUT rude RECEPTION LADY #NOGURL »

Ok our family stayed here for three days and I must admit though we were in level 8 the room was good and the view was amazing. I did notice there was a scratch on the bathroom door like someone got a knife and intentionally carved a line into it. Everything was clean though I was expecting everything to be unclean. Now the only problem I had was with that old woman. She was so rude and acted like she was superior to the human race. I mean she acted so mean when we asked a couple of questions and she totally gave us an attitude. NEWS FLASH I PAID MY HARD EARNED MONEY TO STAY HERE AND I AT LEAST EXPECT A NICE CUSTOMER SERVICE NOT AN OLD WOMAN WITH A SUPERIORITY COMPLEX BECAUSE LAST I CHECKED MY MONEY IS KEEPING YOUR JOB AFLOAT HONEY, SO HUMBLE YOURSELF! In conclusion its a nice place but be prepared for that rude reception lady so have some one liners ready??

« Given a Budget Room but paid the same price as the Advertised Room »

After many hours of researching we booked 2mths in advance for a 2-b/r apartment for 5 nights. Friends also booked their 2-b/r apartment (a couple of days after we had confirmed) to stay at the same time as us also. Upon arrival we found the lady at reception quite dismissive and unhelpful. Our friends had arrived 30 mins prior to us and had received their 5th floor apartment which was exactly what I had researched online. Great view, great amenities, clean, and looked great with all the expectations provided. However, I was given a low floor apartment just above the reception area with a horrible view of a rubbish-filled tin roof & tin wall. The room was cruddy, old, dirty looking and definitely not what we had paid for. I returned to reception to request a different room to which I was told that there were no more rooms available and people who get the higher rooms have booked specifically a year ahead. After I had advised her that this was untrue, I was given a 'ho-hum, can't do anything, too bad' attitude. Being school holidays with numerous events going on in Townsville at the time, trying to source last minute accommodation was a nightmare I didn't want to venture into. Esp not with 2 young children at the end of a long road trip at the end of the day at the end of a week - needless to say we were very annoyed!!! Main Faults: The washing machine leaked with every wash & seeped all over the carpet constantly. The dryer smelt disgusting & had a great big brown lumpy patch at the bottom of it (rust?). When the oven timer went off the electricity in the whole apartment tripped - thankfully the pleasant after-hours girl was able to assist me in finding the switchboard in the dark, to reset the power and get the electricity back on. Paid for a 2-b/r apartment to accommodate 4 people yet had one 3 seater lounge. The whole place, be it kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms were ill-equipped. The furniture was sparse and what was there was obviously 2nd-hand office furniture which didn't work in that space - and I don't mean aesthetically. The walls were smeary, and the carpet was filthy as our socks were black from walking around after an hour. The Lounge curtains were ripped off their hooks on each end so they did not completely close. The blind in the 2nd room was broken & would not even open. But even being closed it did not cover the entire window so the walkway night light on the outside of the 2nd bedroom was super-bright all night which made it hard for the kids to sleep. There was a major trip-hazard walking into the main bathroom - really needs to be addressed! I could go on and on and on...... Because we arrived Friday night there was no reception to approach to voice our complaints until Mon morn. And of course we were at a sporting carnival during their reception hours on the Mon & Tues. I understand that not all rooms are going to be identical in a hotel, but charging for a BUDGET room at the same price as a DECENT room - unacceptable! What we received was awful, esp at the price we paid. Sadly we should've paid an extra $10-$30 for a much better experience at a different hotel. We will make sure we do so next year!

« Just follow the instructions to find this's worth it! »

Quality 4 stars. Very modern. Large 1 BR apartment. Good value for the price. A bit tricky to find reception but worth the trouble. Best free car park we experienced in Townsville. Nearly everything you'd need in an apartment. Only downsides were a lack of a couple of chairs so we could make use of the balcony overlooking the large pool and a table and chairs for dining. The high stools around the bench top might be alright for having a drink with quick snacks or take-aways, but we found the feature uncomfortable.

    « A secret find »

So there's a cowboys game on and everything is booked out. I stumbled upon these apartments. Pricing was reasonable especially considering the great location. It is right next the cinema, max Brenner and Guzman & Gomez. It is also an easy walking distance to the cbd. It is one of those modern day checkin with seemingly unattended reception but the intercom was answered promptly and easy directions were given for the safe. The room is a good size and there is a great bbq area and pool area with spa for larger families and groups. A gym faces the pool, there is a sauna and snack machines. We were in room 69 and it has a perfect view of the pool from the veranda. Our room has a washing machine and dryer and full kitchen amenities. Full tea and coffee facilities but no cookies. Room 69 is great if you want to watch your kids in the pool from your veranda. Also has a view of BBQ area and lawn. Only negative would be no veranda seating. It does however have a full glass window of the entire length of the lounge room.So you can sit at the table or the lounge and still see the pool.

    « well appointed »

I was up in the area for work for a few weeks and decided to look around Townsville while i was in the area. The location was reasonably good and the facilities were terrific. My only slight criticism is finding the reception area and disabled access to the reception office - i couldnt see any ramps etc. While the Wifi was free it was too slow to be usable. I'd happily stay there again.
