This was a dark, dingy dirty room. It is NOT a representation of a Best Western!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL..FOUND HAIR ON THE FLOOR, COUNTER, There was no hair dryer. This room was old, tired, and needed better attention. Food was a typical hotel breakfast but cold.
One of my worst experiences with best western in years. I would not recommend this location to anyone.. Yulie the desk manager is very rude and unprofessional. Does not know how to handle a situation professionally and abuses her power of authority. Should be investigated. The other staff members were ok and helpful .
We were here for 2 non-consecutive nights this week. With the exception of the the first young girl who checked us in, everyone else was friendly and cordial. For a mid-range motel, lodging was comfortable, water pressure good and breakfast adequate standard motel fare. This is an older establishment that could use some refreshening. The 1st room had a very worn, with hole, hand towel, coffee stains on chair and hair in the shower. It appears deep cleaning is needed but most of the basics were met. The 2nd room was in better shape but in both cases a damp cloth on the floors came up dirty so not recommending bare feet. Both rooms were wheel chair accessible which may explain the short length shower curtains but did not prevent water from splashing on bathroom floor.
Terrible customer service. My son was bit by fleas or bed bugs in the bed and the AC filter had never been cleaned, it was really dirty with dust and pet hair. The staff completely ignored and gaslighted me after bringing up both issues. Will Never stay again and do not recommend.
I stayed one night at the location. As soon as I looked at my bed sheets they were stained, the pillows had stains, and the sofa in the room was stained. Due to the room not being cleaned. I definitely did not feel confortable during my stay at the hotel.
Exceptional. Pet friendly, great price, large updated clean rooms Lighting outside was bright and you felt safe. Cal-fire men also stayed there ready to be deployed to the fires. Thank you Best Western for remodeling this older hotel and making it the best!
Never again! A Sure Stay it is not. After driving all day and arriving tired, at check-in we were told they gave our reserved King suite room away. And the hotel was fully booked. Totally unacceptable! Apparently a reservation is not a reservation at this Best Western. We were told there was a room for us and our small dog at another Best Western next door that does not normally allow pets. But the room was a downgrade to just a regular King room, not a suite, where with a suite I could watch the news or read in the morning separate from my wife who likes to sleep in. I will never stay or should I say attempt to stay at the Sure Stay (it ain't) Best Western in Tehachapi again!
We had a very good experience, staying one night with our two small dogs. We had 2 double beds and the room was actually quite large. Modern hard flooring and a large sliding door closet. Not noisy even though we were downstairs. Except the train coming through but it was soothing and not close enough to be a bother. Lots of parking and well-lit. Close to everything. The Downtown area was cool and we found a large green park nearby to walk the dogs.
They must have cut cleaning staff. The room was mostly clean, but there were dust bunnies in the corners and a used coffee pouch was left in the coffee maker. We always put our trash outside our door in the mornings when we stay in hotels; it was never picked up here. The walls and floor/ceiling are paper-thin; you can hear everything. Room was a nice size. The ice machine worked. The breakfast was standard hotel breakfast, the coffee was better than usual though. No frills hotel.
This was a quiet and potentially under appreciated hotel for the price due to its proximity to fancier hotels next door. Hardly anyone was staying here so parking was easy, breakfast was quiet but had all the usual fixings. Pool was the standout, not fancy but enjoyably warm and exceptionally clean. In my experience, heated is usually just above freezing but this pool was great. Hot tub was one of the cleanest I've seen and since they weren't busy, we had the pool area to ourselves. Super close walk to old town area, restaurants, practically across from famous bakery and train station museum. Glad I didn't spend the extra on the hotels just next door. You can hear the train but can probably hear it anywhere in town anyway and didn't wake me up.
It was definitely not to my standards. I was very unhappy with the way I was received and breakfast was horrid and the room is dirty. I would not recommend Shevsky to any of my friends. Hopefully this is not the way they all are.
Filthy barely usable room very un caring staff. No security homeless around the property. We did not get room we reserved. We had a pet and could not find a different property without driving for miles.
Housekeeping hid the urine soaked sheets under the covers. I didn't notice until after I soaked my shorts with urine. Then they blamed my service dogs. I almost never identify my dogs as service animals and I didn't here. I want no special treatment but these people are shameful. We had to leave I was nauseous. Refused to refund and hadn't been there an hour. NEVER NEVER
It was just totally nasty. The bed was pissed on and the covers were pulled up over it to hide it. It was just really nasty, very disgusting to say the least. Made us ( My husband and I ) sick. We asked for a refund and we were told No.
Needed a room at 3am as we were on a long drive during the heat of Aug. The first person on the national call center booked us but we showed up it was all dark. We called the number on the hotel door and thankfully a young man came but he couldn't find out reservation so we had to call the call center back and the second person a woman was super helpful and even talked to the desk clerk in Tehachapi so we could get a room and try to get some sleep. There are no elevators but an interior parking area. Room was clean and did have the shower separate from the sink area which is convenient when traveling . I prefer hotels to remove the carpet and there was a stale smell of cigarettes lingering but we were given a corner room on the upper floor which was quiet.
We loved this hotel. Cute comfy and welcoming. The breakfast was so good. Extremely dog friendly. Wood flooring and extremely comfortable beds and bedding. We will definitely stay again I'm actually going to make another reservation now.
Worst place ever. Got ripped off. We went to desk to check in, gave a key and we went to the room. It was god awful, smelled like clorox bleach and moldy!! Walked back and said we coulnt stay in that room. They said we already checked in and would not give another room or refund! I argued that we would get sick if we stayed there and they didn't care. Talked to manager and the owner, ms L. She apparentley ownes the three hotels right next to each other. Horribly rude and we had to leave and drive to Bakersfield to find a place to stay. We complained to Best Western and they would not do anything. We are members of Best Western group and they were no help. I guess we wont be staying at another Best Western again if they how they treat their valued customers. Lucky we were only staying 1 night and only got ripped off for less that $200! Never again!!! Avoid this and the other 2 hotels at all costs!!
I had a bad experience with this place because of the woman at the front desk (who I think may actually be the owner). She was so rude; just because we asked if we could have an early check-in. She continued to be extra rude in all other matters and another lady in the lobby who heard the whole thing said she had the same experience. She said: "Aren't they just lovely here..." (imagine a sarcastic voice). I have never been to a hotel that won't accommodate an early check-in if possible. She tried to say the hotel was full and she just kept pointing at the check-in sign. There were few cars in the lot so I think she was just being stubborn. My husband thinks she just didn't want to have to pay for people to use the AC. Either way, I will never stay here again. There are other choices in Tehachapi so unless you don't mind being treated like a sub human being, don't stay here.
Dirty sheets, half eaten candy inside of them, used toiletries on the counter, unaccommodating “manager” who was so disrespectful that I would fire her asap if i overheard my conversation with her at the desk and broken/unplugged light fixtures. I would never come here again I would rather sleep on a street bench or in my car.
The staff was helpful, courteous, and friendly. My room was clean and quiet. Got a good night's sleep. I went downtown and walked around in the early evening and found Tehachapi to be a delightful small town.
DON'T STAY HERE! They gave us a terrible room that we refused to stay in then refused to refund our payment. We left. Mrs. Yoo the owner and Joe "A" the manager - he would not tell us his last name - were both rude to us. We complained to Best Western Corporate who apparently are powerless to help.
We always comes to this place once ayear and stay at this hotel cause it clean and room s are nice bathroom is clean and big most necessities such microwave and coffeemaker are there and bed are comfortable just need to add more pillows
Front desk clerk was professional and friendly, room was clean, lovely and comfortable. We would stay here again if we ever find ourselves in Tehachapi again. But leaf blowers outside out each and every bedroom window before 9 AM? Seriously? It must have taken the landscaper a full 15-20 minutes to clear the long hallway--just feet away from each sleeper's bed. By then, there was no going back to sleep. Yes, I know that people who have to get up for work would have been long gone by then. But we were traveling after some difficult family visits and we desperately needed the rest. Major disappointment.
Both staff members we worked with were friendly and accommodating, our room was spacious and clean, bed was super comfortable, and the breakfast was one of the best post-COVID one I've had. Walking distance to downtown but still a quiet place. Highly recommend staying here!
I fell in love with Tehachapi because of it's people. Until now, I had not met one unpleasant person. The gal that checked me in was the most surly, mealy mouthed desk clerk I have ever met. I tried very hard to be nice to her (I thought that was her job) but it was all for not. Not even the acknowledgement that I was a human, let alone a platinum member.
Best hotel in the area, great rates, clean, friendly staff close to everything. Close to Edwards AFB, Lancaster, Bakersfield and off roading desert area. You can't beat the breakfast which is included, eggs, sausage, freshly cooked, also muffin eggs bacon sausage sandwiches, OJ, oatmeal cereals, waffles, coffee and mile.
If you are a local please don't make any online reservations. Unfortunately, We made that mistake while my house is undergoing repairs. The manager mentioned there is a drug problem in the area, they do not rent to locals. “Tehachapi people destroy our property” I understand issue like that arise, but why make a whole town suffer. I have to wait 7-10 business days for a refund.
Clean, Organized, great location, very good amenities. Would highly recommend this place and a very good value, comparatively speaking. I left to early for breakfast but was still able to coffee, fruit and yogurt. Nitpicking: Soda machine was out of soda. OTher than that I will stay there again on my next visit.
L'Eremitage Hotel in Tallinn, Estonia is a true gem. Welcoming, elegant, very well located, stylish and ... even cheap. Our ($90) room had a private garden view, grand plumbing, great comfort and quiet. The (included) breskfast was generous, varied and very good. A short walk to the very fine Old Town. Across the street from a very supoerior and cheap pizzeria. A highlight of a great trip.
Couldn't find this room, she pointed to the back of the side she was on at reception. It was on the other sign, poor signage in a little alcove you didn't realize had rooms. Paid for a king, was given a queen which had been less on the site. Told me if I didn't like it to go elsewhere. Long term BW members. Hard to sleep in a queen because of knee replacement. Floor had dust balls all over we had to get rid of. Terrible staff mostly at incoming, leaving not a lot better. No welcome or thanking for stay, etc. Internet constantly dropped, had to keep signing in. Asked for quiet room & were placed on the road at the back. No room between the bed & dresser you have to walk by
We checked in on Sep 30 into room 111. I was looking forward to watching tv and the tv was not working correctly. After several calls to the front desk, asking for help to fix the problem, the night clerk asked if we wanted to change rooms. We changed to room 108, but the clerk failed to enter our room change into the computer, giving the “empty” room to a man. At 2 am, a strange man entered our room (we forgot to engage the security lock). He apologized profusely and backed out. Scared the living daylights out of us. The reason I entitled the review “disappointing” is because I felt the day manager (when I appraised him of last nights events) did not seem too concerned. An apology would have been nice. Other than a stranger entering our room at 2 am, the hotel was clean and the breakfast was very good…but I doubt I will return.
I was charged twice for a room here. Once for 189.15 and once for 127.60. I tried to discuss with hotel manager who said it was not their fault and would not help. Worst customer service ever! Do not stay here
I have stayed at this Hotel many, many times. The rooms are typically clean. Don't reserve a king size bed room, they are tiny. Always get a 2 queen room. The pillows are comfy and the beds are as well.
The reviews I read online from others made me very leery about staying here. I'm now glad we decided to stay here as the room was generous in size and much cleaner than expected. I don't think the cleaners did much about checking the fridge for leftovers, which I had to toss out. The breakfast buffet in the a.m. had a good selection, unfortunately someone forgot to turn on the warmer for the eggs and sausage.
I have been coming through, staying in Tehachapi for work and personal stays for years. This Best Western, now Sure Stay by Best Western is by far the BEST place to stay. Close to downtown, easy access from East or Westbound 58, a great bakery within walking distance. I recommend this place to anyone traveling highway 58 and needing to rest overnight! Leave your window open to hear the heavy trains crawl by overnight too! It's an extra fun bit!
Beautiful room. Rm 102. Newly decorated. Clean, wood laminate floor, bed excellent, breakfast was wonderful! No elevator, and steps are a problem, so Ella, the clerk, gave us a lovely downstairs room.
Dad‘s are full-size not king size when they say they are king size they are full size they need to measure their beds When I asked the person in the front counter about the size of their beds they say their king size I said they're not they need to measure them they said to go online and share my experience very poor they are full-size beds when they say they are king size bed
This hotel is the best in Tehachapi. You're greeted with a smile. Yolly the front desk staff is great friendly smiles makes you feel special. Rooms are clean hotel is close to downtown and eating places.
Night check in person was not friendly or accommodating. Day/Morning check in person very good and caring to needs. Overall other than that and being moved to a room with working TV / Wi-fi it went well.
Diarrhea splatter under toilet seat, pubic hair on the outside of the toilet bowl, what appears to be a drop of dry blood on the bathroom door, mystery gunk buildup on the walls and base boards. I've never left a hotel and refused to stay before. I'm not sure how this place is so highly reviewed.
My advance reservation with request for 1st floor for this elderly person, completely ignored. Mattress was not only hard but felt like it had a large flaw beneith the matress pad. Terrible nights sleep on that mattress. There are two Best Western's side by side. The lower price one is where I stayed. The "Plus" is next door. Never again will I stay at the lower priced one.
Leftover food in frig, ants in bathroom, really wrinkled bedsheets, had they been changed? Empty beer bottles at cigarette receptacles and butts in dirt planters where nothing was planted. "Do not disturb" door hangers strewn about exterior walkways and parking lot. TV service was having an "outage" the entire stay,; but the breakfast area TV was working fine. Breakfast was not up to Best Western's usual. The cleaning carts rolling at 8am were earthquake noisy as well as being across the street from often ran train tracks. Check out is 12p but they knocked three times beginning at 9 to clean. Check with front desk and avoid disturbing the remaining guests. This is a "hard pass"! Best Western can do much better than this! So disappointing!
Room had 2 luggage stands. Microwave, refrigerator, & nice black-out curtains. Offered a full breakfast (waffles, yogurt, fruit, rolls, breakfast sandwiches, juice, & coffee, & more). Convenient to Jake's Steakhouse, where we usually have dinner.
Bring an extra blanket for the night if you want to stay warm, and plan on having your pet go on the asphalt parking lot. Trains are right across the street too, and go continuously, so bring ear plugs. Or, better yet, keep driving!
Customer service is non-existent here. Front desk woke me up at 11pm to tell me to come into the front desk to provide a credit card for incidentals. I asked if I can come in the morning. Front desk girl rudely said no come in now, so I went and wasn't in the best mood. Not even a thank you afterwards. Pet fee for $30 per night for a place like this is laughable. They even have laminate flooring which doesn't justify the costs. Avoid this place if you can.
This motel has very spacious rooms and was very clean. There is no elevator so if you are carrying alot of stuff, ask for the bottom floor, however, if you are on the bottom floor, you hear every creaky step of those above you. Staff was very accomodating.
Was attending a youth Superbowl game in Arvin, after the game didn't feel like making the long drive home. Pulled off in Tehachapi and found the Best Western Sure Stay, booked a room for my wife and I. Couldn't ask for my helpful front desk staff. Found our room to very roomie and clean, very comfortable beds. After we arrived actually ended up booking my son a room also on his way home from the game. Again the front desk staff were fantastic. Very reasonable prices, I would recommend a stay here for any weary traveler, clean rooms, comfortable beds, and fantastic staff. Thanks James Johnson Sr.
Apparently you get what you pay for. We didn't understand that until after we made the reservation and checked in. Upon check in we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for someone to arrive, upon arrival we found out there were two sides of the hotel a newer side and the older side at least that's what we were informed. Our room consisted of the older side, the associate didn't know how to apply the BW gift card so we paid regular price and we're asked to come back before we check out so someone who knew could apply the discount. Because we left around 5am we didn't even bother. No mention to us of Diamond Select status no extra points, no arrival gift, no upgrade nothing. Thankfully we were just passing through. Oh the bed was very comfortable though.
The motel is clean and inexpensive. The amenities have been updated recently and are a pleasant change. Parking inside the structure is limited but there is ample parking on the perimeter. Good value for your dollar, and there is a pool and a hot tub
The room was clean and comfortable. Towels and concierge amenities were also good. It was on a main street in town but the noise from traffic was minimal. The window dressings were also adequate for eliminating ambient light from street lights at night.
A very basic motel, compared to what one might expect from Best Western, but looks better on the inside than on the outside. Clean. Had at least a grab and go breakfast. Laundry onsite. The check-in is not allowed until 3pm. The staff were polite and friendly, especially the afternoon receptionist. The Best Western Plus next door and owned by the same person looked more like a real Best Western. Quite pricey, as hotels seem to be these days; not too surprising after the lookdowns.
The check-in staff were not helpful nor friendly. The room door's dead bolt was brook. The ice machine was brook. We were afraid to use the electrical plug in the bathroom because it was burnt. The air conditioning was terrible ! It sounded like a 747 taking off.
The room was clean & comfortable but we were charged more than the advertised rate and when I asked the clerk, she gave us a military discount but she made the rate higher so with the discount, it was the same price. Also, they advertised giving a $25.00 gift card for spending the night & we never received that either.
Rude and violated my rights. Horrible rooms I would never stay there again, I'll sleep in my truck before staying at this hotel again. The front desk lady asked me for papers of my service dog and what was my medical need which is illegal.
Charged $60 per night pet fee for two Chihuahuas and with taxes the cost was $204 for one night in Tehachapi. Absolutely outrageous! Walls paper thin and trains running constantly. Room was clean and water hot.
We booked a room at the sure stay by besteestern in tehachapi. Made reservations from I assumed was bestwestern Boy was I wrong it was ccc hotel res. Got to the hotel checked in and was charges 238.04 the next day I got home checked my bank account was charged 238.04 by best Western and a charge od 619.38 from cci*hotelres i called both companies and they blamed each other bweeare when making reservations
As a platinum member, I regularly stay at Best Western hotels both for work and personal stays. This past week I've been a guest at BW Phoenix, Cottonwood, Kingman and Tehatchapi. I have a 12 lb shi tzu service dog that travels everywhere with me and she has been welcomed at each location until Tehatchapi. They advertise as pet friendly but the extremely rude desk clerk told me there were no pet rooms available even though I had the reservation since April 2 2021. I told her this was the first time I had ever been rejected by BW. In fact, all of the first three hotels had provided me with upgrades and no pet fees. She then told me I would have to pay a $32 pet fee (cost was not an issue for me). Magically a pet room was available and I was given room keys. The “pet” room was a bare bones stripped down room with one queen bed and wood laminate floors that had been badly damaged by dog urine. A room deodorizer had been used that was overpowering and nauseating. I opened the door and windows, and used the room conditioner and bathroom vent to rid the odor. Without a doubt, this is the worst hotel room BW or otherwise, I have ever stayed at. Add to the rude attitude of the disinterested clerk and I should give it one star. I cannot recommend this hotel at all.
We (as Platinum Members of BW) checked in and asked for directions to a good restaurant in which to have dinner. The lady at the desk pointed over her shoulder and said the name of a restaurant. No directions, no help at all. She did not welcome me as a Platinum member as most locations do (although I find more and more properties are not bothering with that anymore) and was not helpful in any way. No greeting, no "glad to have you staying with us", nothing. For someone in the hospitality business, she was not there yet. Also, when we checked out and ask if they had coffee to go, a different staff member merely said "no". and that was it. This place needs staff training badly. Would stay next door next time I am in that area. Rooms were nice, property was a 4, but the staff and customer service sucked.
Poor front desk help. No ice bucket, poor breakfast to go,no bags fior dirty clothes,no enough shampoo and conditioner. I went to the lobby and wait for 10 minutes for help with shampoo and conditioner and no bidy was there. Clean room!
Be careful when you book Best Western in Tehachapi. The Sure Stay is not really very good. I had to change rooms because the first one smelled like wet dogs and smoke. The one I stayed in was better but not anything like other Best Westerns I've been happy with in the past. There were odd smells and no outlets to charge your phone. There was a ceiling fan but I had to stand on the bed to get to the pull chain. Then it was tricky to work it. The front desk girl was not very interested in my issue even when I told her it was dangerous. In any case, it was too much trouble to move to another hotel so I stayed. I will be more careful in the future now that I know they have dumpy motels call Sure Stay. Very low end motels
This place is not like the pictures. It is dirty and smells. There are other hotels near by that you can stay at instead that would accommodate better. Customer service was not up to par either. Do not recommend.
The staff was not friendly. She seemed bothered by us. The room smelled nasty. I had to open the windows to let it air out. The reason we stopped our trip arly was so my children could go swimming but the pool was green and the steps and bottom of the hot tub was rusty. Their grab and go breakfast had no choices, just a breakfast sandwich.I will never stay here again and strongly considered leaving right after our arrival. I reccomend using one of the other hotels in Tehachapi.
Not too friendly staff, not plastic cups and plastic bag for ice,not plastic bags for duty clothes, 1 shampoo 1 conditioner for 4 people, had to ask for everything, not breakfast, grab and go bag with 1 orange,1 bottle of water and 2 mini granola bars.
As a rewards member I look to stay at a BW. However over the last couple of years I have noticed such a decline in the rooms. I feel like the standard of a BW has just gone downhill...for the money they charge for a room i'm feeling I get the same at a motel 6 for a lot less money...
I can't believe this hotel can be classified as a Best Western. I asked for the handicapped room and it was at the end of the complex under the staircase. The door was so heavy I had to push with my body to get it open. The room was cold and it took 4 hours to warm. We had one extra blanket that I used for my ill husband and they would NOT give me one for myself. Two beds and only one blanket. I went to the front desk and they showed me another room (not handicapped) which was also freezing. I decided to stay in the handicapped room. Talked to the manager the next day and she said the owner said they would not give me back my money even though we could hardly sleep because it was so cold. She also said their policy is one extra blanket per room and they would not take another one out of a vacant room. I have never been so mistreated at any other hotel. Best Western should take away their BW classification as this hotel gives BW a bad reputation. Never will I stay at this hotel again. If I get a response remember an apology is no good unless their is also a change to correct the problem. I don't see that happening here with this owner.
November 2018 better room. 2019regular room.2020 worst room shower head not working properly, TV control no working 100% properly, you couldn't control the volume key at all. Breakfast not too good not bad. Desk front help not too friendly.
Owner very curt and unfriendly. I had a reservation, she said I did not, and that no rooms avail. It occurred to me that my partner was wearing his vietnam vet hat. I was about to give her my reservation #, but she said no rooms avail.
Overpriced, unclean room urine around base of toilet, dead insect and nutshells in corner of room. Maid does not respect the Do not disturb sign on the door, front desk does not respect do not disturb requests. You are ignored by the front desk as they field incoming calls, exchange towels and handle reservations, poorly run, no management.
This was an enroute stop on my way to Lone Pine, on my Thanksgiving week trip. It was Tuesday before Thanksgiving and I hadn't made advance reservations anywhere because I wasn't sure where I might decide to stop over. I called from Bakersfield and was told they had plenty of rooms so I didn't need a reservation at all. The SureStay brand is part of the Best Western chain, and this one is right next door to a BW on Tehachapi Blvd. The cost at SureStay is a little lower, and the main difference seemed to be that a typical BW has an entrance lobby and inside corridors, while the SureStay (at least this one) has outside doors. The quality was otherwise generally similar to Best Western. with many of the same amenities including a full hot breakfast buffet, microwaves and fridges in the rooms, an exercise room, and a pool, which was dark and locked up on this cold late November Tehachapi night. Even in ideal pool weather, it wouldn't be the greatest experience because it is at the very edge of the property, right next to Tehachapi's main east-west street. The lobby faces the road and all the rooms are set back behind the lobby building – a good thing because Tehachapi is on the Union Pacific main line and trains run all day and all night about a quarter mile from the hotel. This is why I checked "Not sure" if it is a "quiet hotel," because everyone's experience might vary depending on room location. Check-in was easy and quick, and the clerk had been correct that there were plenty of rooms. I think she was the same one I'd spoken with on the phone, and she was very efficient and courteous. I had a room toward the back of the main building and there was no noise issue there. The motel is next to a small commercial cluster that includes a Japanese restaurant, but it was late enough that I decided not to have dinner but just walked a few circuits around the motel buildings and parking lots for exercise before settling in. When I turned in, it was cold and a bit cloudy. When I awoke and ventured out at 7:00 a.m. to fuel up with some eggs, sausage, potatoes, fruit, and juice for the ride to Lone Pine, I stepped out to find about 3 inches of snow on my car and on the ground. Eeek – a lovely sight, but not a welcome discovery for anyone about to go over Tehachapi Summit. The clerk said the snow had started about 5:00 a.m., so what I saw was just a couple of hours' accumulation. All that is a whole other story that has nothing to do with this review of the SureStay, so it will be in my trip report instead. Tehachapi is not a big visitor mecca, although it does have a nicely preserved historic downtown and is centrally located for attractions such as Tehachapi Loop railroad grade, Cesar Chavez National Historic Site, Red Rock Canyon State Park, and the lovely, picturesque, and enticing towns of Bakersfield and Mojave. It's more of a place where you get off the freeway for gas, maybe a bite, and an overnight stop if you're really done in and can't make beautiful, quaint, and charming Bakersfield or Mojave. All in all, I'd recommend this for an overnight stay if you are passing through, or in town on business for a couple of days.
The room was fine, service not so fine. At checkout, I requested that the receipt be emailed to me. The young lady said she sent it. Did not receive. I called twice yesterday, was told both times that it was sent, did not receive. Called again today and once again requested that it be emailed, they wanted to fax it to me. What? Who has a fax at home in 2019? I need to submit the receipt to work to get reimbursed. This is pretty bad customer service. As for the breakfast, I had to check out before 5:30 a.m. so did not get to partake, but I did get a bagel and some coffee.
The continental breakfast and value is awesome. Great choices. For the most part housekeeping is good and clean. I continue to stay here if I am in the area. Close to downtown.... Thumbs up! Kind staff.
Stayed in room 114 which is a pet friendly room. Charged $60.00 for two dogs, which seems night but what can you do? The bed however was the worst mattress I've ever slept on. Sank about 12 inches and you could feel the springs. Woke up with a sore back as well. My rack in Marine Corps boot camp was more comfortable. So if you have pets and have to stay here, beware of the noisy room next to the maid station and the mattress that out lived its life at least 20 years ago.
Needed a local place to spend the night during an Edison power outage. This hotel was accommodating to our needs, however we were told we could not have adjoining rooms, nor could we make any changes after check-in. They allowed our dogs and our room was relatively clean, although small when you add two adults, two dogs and a King bed. It's centrally located, had a hot shower, nice heating unit, comfortable bed, WiFi and breakfast. I would definitely stay here again if the situation presented itself. We live locally, so this was a nice “staycation” opportunity to check it out for future family and client stays.
Smoking room which is great but the coach was dirty. It also looked like they didn't set the room back up after it was cleaned. The table was shoved against the dresser the TV was still turned sideways.
We've stayed here before. It's nice and cozy. Except for the Gardner blowing stuff all over my vehicle, and we reserved a king suite. The bed was by no means a king size bed. Said something to staff and tried to tell me that's why it was discounted. It was discounted when I reserved it... Duh
Worth it for the money. Easy to get to and plenty of parking. My room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Also, some of the paint was peeling off in the bathroom. Its only two stories tall which is nice
The hotel had fantastic breakfast. Most friendly people. Everything I needed. The environment was clean. Tasty food all around. Beautiful scenery. Lots of antic shops around. Was a hotel with standards.
Moved out of our home 2 days prior to leaving so we needed a place to stay in town (no beds in the house anymore). This place was perfect – it's a motel so you drive right up to your room if you are lucky enough to have a 1st floor room. I've been staying in hotels forever and forgot how convenient a motel can be for a one or two night stay. Clean and quiet. Within walking distance of some restaurants, others less than a mile away. Breakfast wasn't bad either.
Rude front desk person/room had horrible odor/terrible breakfast options~was well within my cancellation time and realized immediately after my card was charged that I had booked the wrong hotel. They refused to refund my card even after they told me to call corporate Best Western and they could call and request the refund-their reason was “it is not our problem you booked the wrong hotel”. Tried to get to at least give me a room that did not have a foul odor and was told rudely “no”!
Staff is awesome! They were very helpful and friendly. The handicapped room is truly designed for wheel-chair bound person. Even though full breakfast isn't ready to 7am, we were able to get morning service (limited) at 6am. Was very satisfied with complete experience.
The front dest staff was very rude and the lobby smelled horrible. We called ahead the day before to get an early check in and when we arrived were treated very rudely. We had to stay at a different hotel. We drove in from out of town for a wedding and needed to get ready.
Not fancy but good value for the money. Safe, clean, quiet, right in the center of town with access to everything. Provides a very nice full breakfast free of charge. Has a coffee machine, microwave and small refrigerator in the room which is convenient.
I was providing support to my husband during his 2019 PCT hiking adventure, and he likes Best Westerns since they usually all have: (1) self-service laundry; and (2) a hot tub to soak aching muscles. This particular BW was also pet friendly (extra pet fee per night) so extra points for being able to bring our pup along. There is a hiker box near the front desk as well. The larger, up-to-date rooms near W Tehachapi Blvd have faux wood-laminate flooring and seem to be a bit cleaner than the rooms parallel to W F Street in the back. We had to switch rooms mid-stay and the second room nearer to W F Street smelled quite musty. However, Yoli at the front desk and her staff were always very quick and responsive to our requests. The sound of the trains can be an issue - especially nearer to the front where rooms face Tehachapi Blvd.
Poor customer service from Yoli. Tried to cancel reservation and she said it was up to expedia to cancel. She had me arguing with them until i came to find out that it is completely up to this hotel to cancel. Yoli then argues with me until she admits it is her decision and shes not cancelling the reservation. Then she refused to give me anyone else to talk to. She said her only boss is the owner. Very rude and dishonest from the first phone call. She could have just said its her decision and she's not cancelling it instead of having me call back expedia and getting into an argument with them.
This is the worst Best Western we have visited, and we have been gold members for over 15 years. Lukewarm, shower, weak internet signal, bad breakfast, smoking odors in room and around the hotel and unfriendly staff. This was way below the standards that we normally expect from Best Western. I am surprised that they allow their name to be associated with this property.
Seems like it's the only place in Tehachapi that will take pets. Pet room has laminate floor and Motel 6 mattresses. $30 pet fee is ridiculous. Breakfast is low rent. train tracks across the street. Clean sparse room, nice staff though. I hate to slag a property but this is overpriced for what it is. In the future when back and forth to our winter home in Az we will give this town a pass simply due to hotels not being cat friendly.
This is a travelers hotel, so people come and go at all hours. Also it's next to the railroad tracks, so it's not quiet. But it's the lowest priced on that strip, clean, roomy, comfortable, great serv.
Looks to have been recently upgraded. Smelled clean and fresh when we walked in. Room and bathroom were spacious. Close to the train tracks which can be annoying for some folks. Willing to accommodate parking our tear drop trailer in a safe area( + security cameras thru out property). Many in room safety features and energy conserving features. Would stay here again.
We were happy they had rooms. Nothing fancy, "free breakfast" was marginal, it was mostly boxed cereal and sugary foods; coffee was appreciated. Rooms were clean and quiet. Host was cordial and helpful.
I rented a room from this hotel the morning of 10-13-18. My reciept from them states 10-13. I rented the room for two nights, leaving on the 15th of October. On the 14th I recieved a call that I had missed checkout. I told them I rented the room for two nights, and they agreed to hold the room for me. I showed up to correct the issue which i believe was clerical at the time. My room was locked, and they forced me to pay for another night in order to obtain my belongings. So I wound up paying for 3 total nights and staying only 2 because they recorded the information incorrectly, and stuck to their guns. My reciept reflects 2 nights purchased at 109 per night on the 13th. When I spoke with the hotel they claimed I checked in an reserved the room as of the 12th...I was not even in the town specifically on the 12th, had no reservations, and walked in on the 13th and requested a room/paid. They basically stole money from me
Have stayed here many times. Best rates, clean, nice room, free coffee and breakfast, great location right in the heart of town. All you can ask for. Will be back soon. Tehachipi is a great town to visit. Love the atmosphere there.
The rooms are ok and big enough. Everything is in good conditions. Parking is free. The WiFi is working. The breakfast with its different kinds of bread, coffee, juice,... is ok. Only the check in woman (Chinese?) has too learn a lot about kindness. She had a long telephone call. Seemed private in Mandarin. And after this call she answered another call. So we were waiting and waiting. When she was ready and had started the check in, she did not apologize. And than she went away and told another colleague - a really kind one - to finish our check in. That was very unprofessionell and seemed all very arrogant.
Spent 2 nights Rm 223 room was very clean, strong water pressure in the shower. No noise, direct TV, free internet and a great breakfast. Had no problem with management or staff. I would stay here if in the area.
This is really a 2.5 rating. I can't really give it a two as our room was clean and in working order. The front desk employee was average. However, it was bare bones basic. You get a very plain, clean, yet quite spacious room for a decent price. There is a small pool and breakfast is included. I was afraid noise would be an issue as I'm a light sleeper and this hotel is across the street from railroad tracks. I did hear the trains, but only while I was awake. We tried to book a room in nearby Palmdale's BestWestern Plus through the motel's reservation system. I was told that the motel was full and I asked about the Tehachapi location. The lady said there was availability and we booked a room for two nights. When we arrived at the Tehachapi BWPlus, we were told that we didn't have a reservation and to check next door at the Sure Stay. Sure enough we were on the list. As it was super late and we were super tired, we did't try to change anything. The gal at the reservation office probably didn't realize what she had done. It wasn't the end of the world, but we probably would have had a nicer stay at the BWPlus next door.
We had called Best Western member reservations looking for Dog-OK motel. The price was a bit more than desired, but when asked the reservation guy said "no extra fee for the dog". So we booked. Arrived check-in staff had reservation but wanted to charge $30 for dog. As I mention BW national said no, so she calls owner. Refused to make adjustment. During this time the "to late to cancel without charge" time arrived. Fortunately Best Western Customer Relations secured the free cancellation for me. But the Sure Stay owner was rude with her, so she opened a complaint file & gave me the ref. #. Motel owner has no integrity!
I stayed at the Surestay for a weekend in Tehachapi, the only thing that's "sure" about this place is the management's unprofessional behavior. I arrived late on a Friday night and didn't pay much attention to the room as I wanted to get to sleep. The room reeked of cigarettes even though I'd requested a non smoking room (and it was marked as such). When I woke on Saturday morning I immediately observed black mold covering the bathroom ceiling. I brought this to the attention of the manager, Yoli, who shrugged her shoulders and gave me a blank stare. I asked for a refund of the first night's stay and a new room. She replied that she wouldn't be discounting the room because I didn't complain when I arrived (At 12:30 am the previous night), as if complaining 10 hours earlier would have made my claim any more valid. When I asked what they were going to do about the mold, she said "nothing". I asked if she cared about the safety of her guests, to which she responded "no". When I asked if there was a supervisor, she said she was the manager and there was no one else to speak to, and that I should take my complaint "to the website I booked with" (which was Best Western's website). At this point I again demanded a refund since SureStay is independently owned, and the Best Western website wouldn't have given me a refund. It was then that Yoli threatened to call the police if I wouldn't leave "her lobby", claiming I was driving away her customers (they were friends of mine who had to walk outside to contain their laughter). I then called Best Western's customer service line, who told me they'd be directing Yoli to issue me a refund, after she verified the mold. I waited 30 minutes for someone to come to the room to verify the mold was there. When no one showed up, I walked to the lobby to ask for some extra towels. On the way into the lobby I passed a maid who was going out the door. One minute later she came back to the lobby and on my way out, I overheard her tell Yoli in Spanish she couldn't get into the room. I stood at the doorway staring at them waiting for Yoli to tell the maid to go back to the room with me, but she didn't. I had to say "Was she trying to get into my room?" to get the maid to come out with me. Once in the room, the maid verified the mold was covering the bathroom ceiling. Still, Yoli did nothing and issued no kind of refund at all. This is all still on Saturday. On Sunday morning I woke up with ants on my face. I immediately checked the room and found ants in the bedsheets as well as in the bathroom. There were no ants near the food we had in the room, they were only on the beds and in the bathroom. I went to the lobby to complain once more, and Yoli rudely asked if I was eating in bed. I replied "no" as I hadn't been, and that the ants weren't near our food, they were only around the bed. She then suggested that had I allowed housekeeping into my room, that they would have changed the sheets, as if new sheets would have all of a sudden gotten rid of the very obvious ant problem in the room. I've never heard something more ridiculous in my life. I asked what she was going to do to fix the problem, and she said "nothing". I also asked about the refund I was promised from Best Western's Customer Care line and she looked at me and just blinked. At this point I gave up on trying to get a refund and just resigned to the fact that I will NEVER stay at this dump again. To treat paying customers with such disrespect is unfair, unprofessional, and flat out disappointing. Shame on the management for hiring such careless employees who don't flinch when faced with legitimate health concerns. The mold issue was brought to the management's attention immediately, and the only person who came to verify it's existence was a member of the housekeeping staff who covered her mouth and ran out of the bathroom. I followed up with Best Western corporate the day I checked out, and was told the management stated there was no black mold. Photo evidence is hard to refute. I was also put on a list prohibiting me from ever booking at this hotel again, as if I would put myself through that! Stay away from this flophouse at all costs.
The management, Yoli, has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I've never had a problem getting a forgotten item shipped back home or to my next destination until now! I will not stay there again!
The room was clean and comfortable and of an adequate size for our family of 3 for one night's stay. Decor was pretty basic but everything we needed was provided. A buffet breakfast was imcluded across the car park in the reception area and offered a good selection for all tastes. Hot/cold, vegetarian, yoghurts, fruits, cereals, toasts, waffles etc. and great coffee. Overall a good budget place to stopover. The proximity and disturbance from the nearby trains was a little distracting, but as I said earlier - you get what you pay for.
Stopped here for one night. The staff were helpful and friendly and the room was clean. The bed was very comfortable, I slept like a baby until 0430 when a train blew it's horn right across the street. The lobby was tiny and there were no elevators but I didn't care about that. I'd stay here again.
I liked my midweek stay at this hotel while there for business. Staff was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and met all my needs. Having a warm, delicious breakfast there was convenient and satisfying.
Nice common areas and friendly staff. The hotel is in a good location with proximity to the downtown area and the freeway. The room itself was just ok. There was a musty smell and the sheets felt scratchy. There were lots of smokers staying at the hotel when I stayed and the smoke from their cigarettes crept into my room.
Dirty rooms, threadbare sheets, squeaky floors above, super rude checking person, outside entry facing empty shopping center, gapes around door. I felt unsafe my entire stay. Not usual Bestwestern standards actually a dump.
Close to town with good parking. Town is a short flat walk to restaurants etc so this place is a great location. Check in was fuss free and I could park right by the room. The room was comfortable and in good order. I slept well in a comfortable bed with nice linen. A good hot shower was always available. A good place to stay at a reasonable price. Yes I will use this place again.
