« Good location for station »

Very nice hotel just around the corner from the station. Hotel is being refurbished, therefore the room was all nice and new, good bed. Although I had a double room it was very small. Large breakfast buffet.

« Good location in Takayama »

Stayed two nights at this hotel while visiting lovely Takayama. Walking distance from the train station and to the tourist sites this hotel has a great location. Accommodations are fine and the breakfast was OK . Pillows where a bit hard for us and for Foreigners who speak no Japanese - the in room TV is worthless. No complaints about cleanliness.

« reasonable hotel in this price bracket »

We left the hotel today after 3 nights and whilst there are renovations underway our stay was not majorily disrupted. The lift was a bit messy and there is currently no bar and only one cafe, where you take breakfast. Did not suffer from paint smells or mouldy bathrooms as others have mentioned. This a fairly budget option hotel in Takamaya and you get what you pay for. I, therefore, thought it was a reasonable deal for the cost. It certainly isnt a hotel that will wow you but it is functional with clean and fairly good size rooms. It is in need of updating so should be improved once renovations complete, i think in December. One of the main benefits is that it is only a few mins walk from the station but it is still pretty quiet. No onsen on site, unfortunately, but there is a sauna and a number of large individual jacuzzi baths, all spotlessly clean. There is also a massage service which is ok if you like pressure point massage - I got a fair deal at 5500y for 70 mins. Breakfast was included in our room rate. It was a bit basic and not overly high quality but it was a hot and cold buffet and some of the options changed daily. The main thing i didn't like about this hotel was that we found it is used mainly by european tour groups, so didn't feel very Japanese. As a consequence a reasonable level of english is spoken by most of the staff. Overall i feel this hotel offers good value for money.

    « Stay somewhere else! »

As previously mentioned in other reviews, this hotel is undergoing renovations and there is a horrible smell of paint everywhere but, even ignoring the ongoing works, this hotel is appalling. The rooms are so small that you have to pile the furniture in a corner to get any space for suitcases or, indeed, anything else. The bathroom is also tiny. The room was very hot when we arrived and the "air conditioning" had no thermostat and was only blowing hot air. When I went to reception, I was told to open a window which was rather difficult to do as there was scaffolding outside with workmen on! However, a fan was produced which gave some relief. The breakfast was something else - I have never endured a worse more chaotic breakfast buffet anywhere - the choice was extremely limited and the service was abysmal. I have given this one more star than it merits purely because of the location, which is good. There must be better hotels in Takayama than this one. Avoid at all costs!

« a well located hotel in a lovely town »

we stayed at the Best Western Hotel Takayama recently and loved it. There is some painting happening but did not bother us at all. we were on the top floor - big room nice outlook and non smoking. breakfast was included and the breakfast was very nice - cornflakes and fruit and bread! there is a steam room and spa and the staff were charming. this is the best place to stay in Takayama!

« Moldy smell in bathroom »

The hotel is in the middle of a renovation. We might have gotten one of the older rooms. But the size was OK. Either the smell eventually went away or we got used to it, but it was not noticeable later in the day. The breakfast buffet was great with plenty of choices between Western and Japanese items. The hotel is located on a small street one block north of the train station. The closest cross street is the one with the green bridge for you to get into the historic section. We only stayed one night. Didn't have much interaction with the staff.

    « No air-conditioning »

The hotel is clean and comfortable, but there is no air-conditioning. There is a dial in the room labelled "air-conditioning" but that just controls a heater. I asked at the front desk, they confirmed that it was a heater and if I wanted cold air, then I should open the window. Otherwise the hotel features everything you'd expect from a Best Western hotel and fast, free Wi-Fi. Also, some of the rooms have interesting features, such as this glass walled bathroom!

    « Good Location. »

The Best Western was not a bad hotel it was just not exceptional. Good value for money. Our room was functional clean and pretty bland. Location was great an easy walk from the Railway Station and to the historic precinct. Happy hour was not so happy with many of the drinks being excluded. Breakfast pretty basic. There is an Onsen on site with separate facilities for men and women - looked good but we didn't have the opportunity to utilize it. Would recommend the Best Western for a one night stay only due to general lack of atmosphere. Great little Izekaya in the same street - it looks like a tiny bar but has a larger restaurant hidden out the back.

« Clean, comfortable, good location »

This hotel has just been refurbished. Rooms are nice, bright and clean. Bed is slightly on the hard side but still ok. The amenities are good. They provide a good quality kettle and even an ice bucket. Overall, a pleasant stay. Slightly expensive though.

    « Good Location »

Great hotel for the money. Close to the railway station and bus depot. Also within walking distance of notable tourist spots. Friendly staff who were helpful giving directions. Breakfast good with Japanese and western type food. Our double/double was huge and comfortable. We could have done with two more pillows as such a wide expanse! Amenities were replenished daily and were on the generous side. We enjoyed our stay here.

    « Beware! »

We stayed in a recently renovated room and yes in true Best Western style it's the job of Cowboys. The room is large by Japanese standards but the bathroom still old and moldy. From September until the end of December the hotel is covered in scaffolding, starting at 08:00 until 18:00 Monday to Friday there are men standing directly outside the room windows scrapping the exterior walls. If you turn on the air conditioning expect to smell paint. Front desk staff are very unfriendly and don't speak hardly any English (especially when you call to complain, there's a silence over the phone). Overall one of the worst hotels we stayed in Japan during our honeymoon. Overpriced, bad room and bad service. I'd recommend to stay elsewhere!

    « Warm Welcome »

Very clean, warm friendly staff, very close to the train station and a yummy Indian restaurant (I know, I know - why go to Takayama and eat Indian food but it's great If you're trying to find halal and / vegetarian options). Free breakfast and free wifi. Rooms are very comfortable.

« Very good location, great value, definitely up to the Best Western standard. »

Easy to get to from the railway station. Currently under exterior renovations, however this did not have a detrimental effect upon our stay. Staff are curtious and efficient. The rooms were spacious, clean and well accommodated. Very much enjoyed our two night stay.

« Great hotel, great breakfast, rooms a little small »

I stayed at the Takayama Best Western in August 2016 with my husband and toddler. The hotel is centrally located and is walking distance to many restaurants as well as the morning markets, Old Town and shopping areas. Our hotel room was very clean and felt fresh although it was quite small, especially with a cot in there. We found we needed to leave the pram outside. There is also not a lot of storage space, although there is a closet. The breakfast was extremely good, although admittedly we only had the Japanese-style breakfast. There were Western-style breakfast options available, but we didn't try those. The Japanese breakfast was fantastic and we enjoyed it immensely. The cost was reasonable and the hotel manager was willing to match the nightly rate available on There was some later confusion about whether we negotiated a price to include or exclude the cot, and we ended up paying extra, but it was still really good value. There is a built-in control system in each room (lights, alarm, etc) and the alarm clock is extremely bright at night (equivalent to a night light). Normally we would cover or unplug such a bright alarm clock, but it is wired in and flush with the wall. So you can't cover it easily. We ended up trying to hold a blanket in place with some books just to cover the light. Maybe there's a way of switching it off but we couldn't figure it out. The staff was very friendly and spoke English quite well. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend because it is a good value and well-located option.

    « Basic hotel »

Basic simple tourist hotel. Clean room but nothing special. Bad wifi in our room, we could not connect at all. Connection in the lobby is good. Breakfast was average, only until 9.30h meaning you could enter until 9h. Bar is not so attractive on lobby level. There is a massage on second floor called happy hands with deep pressure massage, which was good (5000 for 60 mins).

« Close to JR station, comfy beds »

Stayed for 2 nights. Hotel is a short stroll from the JR station and bus terminal and less than 10 minutes walk from the Takayama old town. Rooms are decent sized and beds are comfortable. Will recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Takayama.

    « Ski trip 2016 »

This was a jewel that we we booked on the fly from Myoko Kogan, very close to the train station, walking distance and so is most places in town. Great and very helpful staff, comfortable and clean......great breakfast. Will re-visit without hesitation. Lots to see and do in Takayama.

« Nothing to write home about »

I booked this hotel a number of months ahead and paid 18,000 yen for a double bed with breakfast. Overall it was expensive! Location wise was fine if you want to be close to Takayama Station (the hotel is only a couple of minutes walk away) although Takayama is quite small and easy to walk around. The room was quite dated and small with the bed virtually up against a wall. There was no room for a bedside table but space was available to put your luggage. There was no in room safe, newspaper or water provided. The bathroom felt old and was really tiny. The bed was quite firm which I liked but the pillows were horrible and hard to sleep on. I found the staff on reception to be quite unfriendly which was unusual for Japan. On arrival I was bizarrely asked what time I'd be leaving the hotel the following day. Very strange when there's a card in the room for cleaning service and I wasn't checking out the next day. Breakfast was pretty average. The TV had one English speaking channel which was CNN. Wi-Fi was free and the speed was good. I'd only consider staying here again if I got better room rate.

    « Good location »

The hotel is very near the bus and train station. It's on a small street behind the Country Hotel Takayama (which has a Family Mart). Within walking distance to the Jinya-mae market and the larger Miyagawa morning market.

    « Great hotel!!!! »

When a lost my fotocamera the hotel was very very helpfull and eventually I got my camera back!!! They contacted the store where I lost it and then they send it to my next hotel!!! I' m very very happy!

    « Best Western Takayama »

A well-located, clean hotel with excellent service and better than average buffet breakfast. A little dated with small rooms. Bathrooms are fine. Beds are comfortable. A quick walk to everything -- shopping, saki factories, morning market......Enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

« The best hotel I stayed at in Japan. »

I was in Japan for almost two weeks, visiting Tokyo, Nikko, Kanazawa, Takayama, and Kyoto. I would have to stay the Best Western in Takayama was the best hotel I stayed at. It was a lot more spacious than the ones in Tokyo and Kyoto. The breakfast buffet was a lot better than the one I had in Tokyo. I especially liked the reliable wifi connection (the one I had in Kyoto was terrible!), the excellent location, and friendly and helpful staff. I would come back if I'm ever in Takayama again.

    « Great Location !!! »

This hotel is in a great location in the middle of town, very clean as usual in Japan, not luxurious but good enough for couple of nights. The rooms are spacious in comparison to Japanese style hotels, and it was very quiet. The parking in the building is one of those tower parkings, so our car was too wide, so they recommended a parking lot that was a block away, the fee in the hotel parking was 1,000 yen and this other one was 1,200 yen for 24hours, the Front Desk young lady gave us a coupon for 400 yen discount.

    « A good choice »

Clean, comfortable, if modest, accommodation. Our room was not large, but more than adequate for us given that we were only staying two nights and were travelling with limited luggage (we had forwarded our main suitcase directly to Hiroshima from Tokyo). Although we were travelling lightly, one thing we would have liked to see in our room was one or two drawers for clothing so we did not have to live out of our luggage. As others have said, the hotel itself is well located in relation to the JR station and is an easy walk from the town's main attractions. The buffet breakfast was varied and made for an easy start to the day. Interestingly, Takayama boasts over 830 food outlets. The trick is finding ones that are open - particularly early in the day or after about 8pm. Takayama keeps very different hours to the ever-bustling Tokyo!

    « Central location »

This lovely hotel is just 5 mins walk across the Takayama station and easily accessible to the old town and nearby eateries (though most seem to open in the evening). Bedroom was bigger that I expected and hotel thoughtfully provided a number of hangers and a spray freshener. Breakfast selection was good with a few choices of bread. There was a spa on 3/F but was it under maintenance during my stay.

    « Room 401 »

This hotel is well located for walking around Takayama. The hotel facilities are less than city hotels, the service slightly different but if you want to walk around this heritage city put up with it. The view from this room was not scenic ! This hotel was booked as part of SAGA holiday

    « Nice mountain views »

A comfortable hotel, 3 double beds and still room to move. 2 min. to station and right in town. Good buffet. breakfast. Staff helpful. A really nice town to visit. Plenty of sightseeing around town and country side.

« Very good hotel close to the JR and bus station and city center »

Very nice hotel located very close to the JR & bus station. Only a few blocks away from the city center in a nice neighbourhood with restaurants and cafe's. Personnel is very friendly and speaks good English. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Bathroom with bath tub. The hotel really surprised us in a very positive way and is really a perfect place to stay in Takayama

« This isn't the Best Western. It is the Worst Western! »

Takayama was a place we needed to stay for just one overnight. Thank goodness for that. We couldn't have suffered another night at this hotel! The rooms were among the smallest we experienced in Japan. Takayama is a small town that seemed to close down by 8 pm. The only thing for us to do outside the hotel in the evening was to wander over to the local Family Mart convenience store and browse through the shelves for nibbles and cold drinks. But the worst of all was the unpleasant restaurant/bar staff who refused to make us coffee or a salad at 8.50 pm on our return from the dark empty streets of the town. They were anxious to knock off by 9 pm and only under noisy protest did they provide us with coffee and hovered over us like expectant vultures eagerly waiting to scoop up our almost empty cups. It's also a hotel that, despite the name 'Best Western' does not provide Western TV channels in the rooms. A major disappointment, This was by far and away the worst hotel we experienced of the six we experienced in Japan.

« good location, good service, nice rooms »

a very good choice for ataying in takayama. 3 minutes walk from the train station, average 15 minutes walk to major town attractions and good reataurants. service was good. in hotel restaurant was overpriced for dinner but had good morning boufet.

« Glad to stay here! »

It was a last minute decision to stay here as we had altitude sickness while visiting the Alpine Route, so we decided to cut short our stay at Murodo and checked in at Best Western Takayama. Turns out it was the best decision we have ever made! The room was surprisingly big and the beds were very comfortable, the hotel looks very well maintained, clean and new. It was just a few minutes walk from Takayama station and convenience shops. The staff were very helpful and alerted us that there will be a spring festival procession the following day at the old town and specified where to catch all the action on a map they provided. I personally feel this is a under-rated hotel and if you're into a property with a good location and comfortable clean rooms, look no further.

    « Excellent location »

Good hotel and excellent location. Spacy rooms and every morning nice Breakfast. Very accurate service. Everything stricly ordered; for breakfast you need to be present before 9 a.m. .and the staff wants to know when you intend to leave your room each morning!

This hotel is situated in a very quiet street approximately 5 mins from the train station. The room was spacious and there were adequate facilities for a 'Boutique Hotel'. We enjoyed the breakfasts, good range of western food. We did not dine in the hotel as prices were quite expensive. There is plenty of cheaper local restaurants to enjoy.

« Excellent Hotel and Convenient Location! »

This hotel is located very close to Takayama Central Station and easily accessible by 10 min walk. Beautiful and spacious room, fair breakfast buffet. We had a very comfortable stay in this hotel and great little town. I would highly recommend this hotel to who ever has a plan to visit Takayama.

« Quiet, Spacious, and Clean »

I asked for a quiet room and got a room at the far end of the hallway. It was very quiet, but I wouldn't say absolutely soundproof. The room was spacious for what I paid (less than $100). It was clean. Location is good, relative to the station, and there are several restaurants nearby. Didn't get the chance to try their restaurant or other amenities but it looked decent. Wish it had coin laundry facilities inside the hotel, but there is one a few minutes walk away.

    « Great room »

Three-Five minutes walk from Takayama station to hotel. It's very convenience. The room very big and clean. There's mineral water in bathroom. There's bicycle for rent ,when you would like to ride a bicycle around the town but i'm not sure how much is it. There's spa in hotel. It's free but you can service in 5pm.

« Popular among tourist groups »

Close to the train station. Rooms were nice and comfortable. We paid around 125 euros for our stay and felt it was value for the money. Good location and accessible and therefore popular with tourist groups. Several came with the same train as we took from Nagoya.

« Comfortable and Excellent Location »

The room space is large in Japan. It is western style hotel. It is near the bus station, in 2 minutes walking distance. A lots of attractions are in walking distance. This hotel is definitely my choice when I come to Takayama next time.

« Comfortable rooms and excellent location. Definitely nice to stay. »

Ideally located for rail travellers, only a short stroll from the JR station and close to traditional shopping streets. The staff are helpful, efficient and eager to please, and the room we had was excellent! Immaculate, comfortable and warm, which was really essential as it snowed while we were there. The buffet breakfast was good, with a reasonable range of choices. While it is possible to walk to the Hida Folk Village, there is an excellent local bus service at the station and we would recommend visiting in the evening during winter to see the illuminated lake. We only had a short time in Takayama, but would have stayed for longer if we had known how great it is to visit. We would certainly consider going back - and staying at Best Western anytime.

    « Comfy, no frills »

Soft comfy bed; fairly large room. Heating works exceptionally well so that's a plus in winter. 5 min walk from JR station. Only complaint (but no biggie) is that brekkie's pretty bland. No on-site self-service laundry but that's easily sorted as there's one very close to the post office .... Commercial sized washers/dryers and 15kg loads cost JPY1,200. Would stay again.

    « Convenient, Good Value »

Stayed overnight with my wife on our way to Shirakawago the following day. Very close to Takayama station 5min walk Good buffet breakfast Clean, modern rooms that looked recently renovated Helpful reception Excellent SPA with hot tubs Would stay here again if passing by

« Good location. Comfy hotel. No onsen. »

This is a comfy hotel that is very close to Train station/bus station. It is a 15-20 minutes walk away from main attraction. I love to walk around the hotel, to the temple, to good restaurants, to lovely shops, and a museum. I love that it is new hotel too. Two things I don't love about this hotel is that there is no onsen and the price is a bit high (7,900 baht/night).

« Close to Takayama station and not far from attractions »

We loved our stay here. The rooms were spacious and staff were helpful. They have a spa free for guests and massage area, which was reasonably priced. Breakfast was a decent spread of local dishes and we had a special serve of New Years dishes as we stayed over the new year period. The hotel is about a 2-5 minute walk from the station and a walkable distance from the main shops and markets. One of our favourite hotels during our 14 day stay in Japan.

« Hotel near to train station and Nouhi bus centre »

A pleasant hotel near to the train station and Nouhi bus centre, just a couple of minutes walk. Convenient to stay as a base to visit Shirakawago by Nouhi bus. Hotel is also near to the morning markets and the old town. And near to eating places serving one of the best hida beef teppanyaki and sukiyaki. However, staff is rather mechanical and not flexible when we requested for checking out half an hour later than their check out time. The staff immediately said no and flash out their charging policy which is at 5% of the room rate per night, and started punching the calculator straightaway to show us the price.

    « Just adequate »

This conveniently located hotel makes an immediate poor impression. As you enter, you are confronted with a scene of general sloppiness, with a buffet table spilling out into the rather untidy lobby. This first impression carries through to the rest of the experience. It is not that the hotel is really bad, just that it lacks any sort of polish, let alone any sort of flair or character. And, just to settle the evidently controversial breakfast issue, the Western-style offerings were a bit limited, but by no means awful. Though the selection seemed to vary a bit day to day. The most egregious thing about the breakfast for me, though, was that the soft boiled eggs were literally cold! So, if you stay at this hotel - and you could do better - only have breakfast there if they throw it in as part of a deal. Certainly don't pay extra for it!

« Good location and large rooms »

Very close to the station yet in a quiet side street the location is terrific and the price is reasonable for a top tourist town. The rooms are larger than normal and the beds are Japanese hard but comfortable enough. The level 2 spa and mist sauna complex is free (sex segregated) and a bonus but it has a small capacity. Staff were great with good English and always obliging. Where this hotel loses points is in noise transmission between rooms. They advertise soundproofed rooms and perhaps they are if they're referring to voices travelling through the walls, but the thumping of feet above you and in the hallway is loud and constant as is the banging of closing doors. Once everyone returns after dinner it's just a constant cacophony of banging and thumping and quite unpleasant. We stayed in room 406. Maybe it's better elsewhere? Also, the internet is good until dinner time and when under peak load becomes very unreliable. So a good hotel in most respects but some serious deficiencies. I dont regret staying here...just depends what's important to you.

« Comfortable and well located »

We found this hotel very pleasant and convenient. It is very close to the railway station and there is an international ATM facility just across the road on the left as you walk out the front door. The rooms and corridors are larger than normally experienced in Japan, so we thought that it had a very comfortable and spacious feel. Rooms are well appointed. Service was quite accommodating. Breakfast was pleasant with an adequate, if not particularly wonderful, mix of Japanese and Western food.

« Excellent value for money »

The Best Western is located a block (walking distance) from the Takayama train station. The hotel lobby is well laid out and the staff are friendly and accommodating. The room itself is a little bigger than what you normally have in other Japanaese hotels. The hotel also provides complimentary traditional Japanese pyjamas, razors, lotions and other basic. Amenities view from the hotel window is limited, however most things in Takayama are a walking distance from the hotel from door. Hotel offeres a free wifi service. Sleep quality was great (the only downside is that there were only 2 pillows on the bed - but no big deal), the bed was comfortable and clean. Overall condition of the hotel was well maintained and would recommend this hotel as excellent value for money spent. (About $92aud for one night/ two people).

    « Good price-value ratio »

Staying one night for the price of approx 48 EUR with buffet breakfast included. Honestly, what do you expect for this price? Ritz or Hilton? Please... I don't understand the reviews with so much contras. The room itself was clean with comfortable bed and good looking bathroom area (built shower). Breakfast was plenty and tasted good. Staff was friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this one, just be reasonable with your expectations.

« Odd name for a hotel in the East »

Located just a block from the train station, close walking distance to things. Helpful staff, efficient , fair English , rooms good size , clean, smoke free, quiet, good Wifi, no English on cable TV, free fine mist sauna / spa , small breakfast area- always got a seat , average breakfast , average hotel. Would stay again

    « Comfortable beds but ..... »

This hotel is very well situated, beds are very comfortable (we stayed in room 416) but unfortunately it's all downhill from there. The breakfast is clearly aimed at the Japanese, other offerings were cornflakes and not very fresh bread. We stayed for two nights and were not even able to get a drink on the second night let alone dinner. The restaurant had been booked for a wedding! We asked for two cups of coffee to be delivered to our room during the evening and someone arrived with two sachets of instant coffee!

« Neither Best Nor Western »

Stayed in this Hotel as a part of Group Tour recently. Better to Forget the unforgettable experience. Though buffet breakfast is offered, Bread can be found only for first few people. Not much spread and the same stuff. Double Bedroom is very small (Room no.302) and hardly any space to move around. Definitely Takayama is not in Tokyo or Nagoya !!! While other hotels provide good space, why not in Best Western. The Air conditioning is Horrible .You can't set temperature. It has got low, mid or high setting. Since outside temp is cold, kept in low and slept, only to get soaked in sweat (rather cooked) in the middle of the night. So you got switch off and on the Air Con entire night right through the stay.. Showers don't have temp setting. You got a separate hot and cold water controls to mix, that leaves you every time with either hot or cold sprinkle.. Also water gets wasted during the process. I never saw such a hard water in Japan so far.. I don't know why.. Soap or shampoo never gets foam. Only during last couple of days the water was OK. Think twice before you choose this hotel.

« Two night, two differnt experiences »

Great location. When you leave the station, look up al little and you will already see the Best Western logo. Very short walk. Family Mart and 7-11 Bank ATM (Cirrus) en route. Old town within walking distance. JR Station and busstation can be reached without any suitcase obstacles by walking within 5 minutes. Rather unimpressive, dark, high, bit smelly lobby/restaurant. In bad need of renovation. Large tour groups. Bad quality breakfast. And we just do not like hotels where all the do's and don's are printed on A4 paper and put up everywhere. Reception speaks rather good English, but they are just not able to cater to the needs of individual western guests. There is a German guy, not having any experience in hospitality, but willing to help. The bossy GM could give the staff a little more freedom to act. Our small room was basic, but ok. Only after October 1st, the airco is turned of and the heating is turned on. It was 25 degrees Celsius outside. The room was like an oven. Although our German friend tried to open up the window, he did not succeed. The small opening was not enough to get the heat down at night. We slept with the door open. Next day we were offered a junior suite. Nice spacious room. Beautiful bathroom (make your own honsen). Fresh (only the fatty smell of neighboring restaurants can penetrate the room easy). Writing desk, lounge couche. This room was worth the price we payed, but would have cost double the deluxe room if you had to book it. There is only one word for this hotel: overpriced.

    « Good solid hotel »

We were there for the Autumn festival and so the town was very busy. The hotel was comfortable and friendly. The location is good for the easy walk into the centre and with many choices of eating places nearby.

    « Aptly rated 3T »

We had a modern room with fridge, tea making urn but no safe. The air con was set to heating only,so the room was very stuffy even though we switched the heating off. Pyjamas and slippers were provided. The shower was very good and we enjoyed a pleasant dinner of Australian steak, chips and salad with a nice glass of red wine The staff in the dining room tried very hard to please us but the dining room itself was characterless. However, breakfast was a shambles as we had to set our own table - when we managed to get one as the dining room wasn't big enough to cater for two large coach parties at the same time! -. The breakfast selection was poor with tinned fruit, basic cereal, ham and processed cheese.

    « Overpriced »

This hotel was the most expensive of our month's trip to Japan and definitely not worth the extra $100 a night. The room was tiny and dingy -- clean but worn-looking, especially the bathroom. It was also extremely hot as there was no individual heating/cooling in the room. The desk clerk told us to open the window, which opened approximately two inches. As there was no cross-ventilation it took all night to cool off, then the cleaning crew closed it again so we had to start all over the second night. The front desk staff was pleasant and helpful. Contrary to some of the other reviews we found the breakfast more than adequate. The location near the station and bus station was convenient. All in all adequate but nothing more. We did look into some other rooms that were being cleaned and some were larger. This is a hotel favored by tour groups and if we had better mobility we would have opted for one of the ryokans in the city.

« Clean, comfy, modern, excellent location »

A really lovely large hotel with new, modern rooms. 2 minute walk from the train and bus station. An excellent place as a base to explore takyama village and take day trips to the surrounding areas. A great price compared to other accom in the area.

    « Space at last »

After booking our hotel in Tokyo direct, we used a London travel agent to reserve our hotels on our 14 day tour of cities outside Tokyo. Takayama proved a problem, as our visit coincided with the Autumn festival which places a heavy demand on the limited accommodation available. We assumed that the rather high price of £245 reflected the high demand, but we're surprised to find that we had a magnificent suite. Two very large twin beds, a big desk with twin lamps, settee, fridge, large TV and a separate alcove for clothes storage and bench for luggage. The spacious bathroom with lavatory at one end basin in the centre and a separate bathing area with a huge bath plus a double shower contravened the rule that all Japanese bathrooms are miniscule! Despite its size (approx 12metres X 4 to 5 metres) , the logistics were not quite right. The TV and telephone were at the far end of the room from the beds, so it was not possible to watch TV from the bed, nor was it convenient for the telephone wake-up call which could not be heard 12 metres away. Breakfast was excellent, with a huge range of both Japanese and western fare, including shrimp, calamari, bacon, sausages, and scrambled egg; two cereals, very good coffee and a choice of orange or tomato juice. An unfortunate selection as I prefer Apple or grapefruit, but you can't have everything. Reception staff were very polite and helpful, taking care of our luggage when we arrived well before check in. The cases were all in our room when we returned to the hotel. A very good hotel!

    « Great breakfast »

Very near the JR station.. The rooms are so so. The service is wonderful and the breakfast was first class. Their recommendation about local restaurants were excellent. They accommodated our requests for getting a quiet room and hypoallegenic bedding.

    « Good location »

Stayed here for two nights. Location: very near to train station, and within walking distance to all attractions. The bus station is right in front of the train station. Food: there are so many restaurants at Takayama. Most of them served hida beef and soba noodles. Sightseeing: Takayama is a small town so all attractions are within walking distance. Room: very comfortable bed but the pillow is a bit hard. This could be a tradition at Takayama whereby the locals here prefer harder pillow with rice inside???? But we find it hard to sleep on. We booked this hotel last minute and thus the rate was not cheap.hotel staff are friendly, they even let us leave our luggage there for a night when we left for a night trip to Shirakawa-go which is a great deal to us.

    « Good tourist hotel »

Convenient location and clean rooms are selling points for this hotel. Breakfast is adequate but nothing to sing about. Service is minimal. During our stay the ceiling aircon in our room dripped water onto the carpet! When being told the next morning front desk receptionist apologised profusely.

    « Convenient and quiet »

We stayed one night at this hotel and it was very convenient. Close to te station and the center, clean, comfortable and quiet. The rooms are not very large. We booked a double room and a twin room and both were ok.

    « Very good location »

Hotel is quite new. 1 mintute walk to JR and bus station and 10 minutes walk to the morning market/ old street. Not cheap maybe because I booked it quite late. No free bottle water. There is a hot bath which is ion at night only and that is not a real natural hot spring bath
