    « Not bad... »

We stayed here for the night so we could explore the Cinder Cone in Lassen. The room was nice as it had just undergone renovation. Breakfast was at Lumberjacks which was usually packed and slow. We were not very happy at spending so much time for breakfast when we could have had that extra time at the park.

« Best Western Susanville, Ca. »

Employees were not knowledgeable about hote readiness for guests.. Had to wait an hour for room and we checked in an hour after check in time. She couldn't tell us if there was a specific area for pets to relieve themselves. She also could not recommend a restaurant in the area. We were however fortunate enough tom pick the Mazatlan restaurant which was excellent for Mexican food. The only bright spot in the entire town.

« Great value, nice room »

This hotel was undergoing a face-lift during my stay. The room was clean and bright, with a mini fridge and microwave. The rooms do not have curtains but shutters instead and I never feel like they're completely opaque. Two story hotel with no elevator I was able to see. Ample parking, right off the main road in Susanville and very near to restaurants, shopping, etc. The breakfast is a voucher for the restaurant next door, so be sure to ask about it otherwise you may not be told about how to redeem it or may look around the lobby like I did expecting to see normal continental fare and not having time to walk into the restaurant to check out their options. No photos to share but I would definitely stay here again if I'm in Susanville. Staff was friendly and courteous.

« Best Western Trailside Inn, Susanville, CA »

This hotel seems to be going downhill regardless of its efforts to update the exterior. Staff is not as friendly or accommodating as two years ago. Bed was on the hard side. I could hear my neighbor snoring. Parking was a problem due to construction. Refrigerator rack was broken. Overall, the room was clean and comfortable other than these problems.

« Next time will be better, I'm sure »

This is a very tired property. Carpet was very soiled. Bathroom door didn't close properly. Shower gel in shower didn't work and it took 2 calls and 3 people to fix it. Good news - the entire property is under remodel, so I'm sure this will all be fixed.

    « Poor computers »

Very good hotel for area. Rooms are great. the only poor things are the computers in the lobby are old and slow. I believe they are on DLS not high speed internet. Took a long time to use them Gave up . No food in lobby. Meal ticket for restaurant "Lumber Jack" next door. Poor service there and poor food. I only stay at BW's so the lobby computers was a shock. I canalways go to McDonalds for breakfast

    « Truly enjoyable evening »

WE were treated with such professionalism and kindness. We were there for a stop over before heading to Tahoe. The room was just perfect for us and we enjoyed the brewery down the road. The complimentary breakfast at the restaurant was was perfect

    « Skip it »

The beds were comfortable and food was at an actual restaurant, everything else was not worth it. If you get the breakfast menu they provide for the restaurant then you get it complimentary, but if you go off that then you only get 10% off. Place is under construction- lets hope they succeed. Carpet in room was so crumpled I almost tripped several times, water temp cut in and out but mostly stayed hot.

    « Great place »

I always start by looking at Best Western Motels...They are consistently clean, and almost always, pleasant and caring staff. This B.Western id s great stop on a trip. There are probably 90 miles behind and ahead on the road. Stop in Susanville on any trip..

« Not average for a BEST WESTERN »

Older, difficult to maintain/clean property. Staff were nice and seem to make an effort to deal with underlying challenges of an aging motel. Makes me wonder about how the management is holding up. It is a budget hotel at a moderate price. Voucher included for breakfast at a nice restaurant next door which helps. The bed was very clean but the carpet/room had an sweaty odor to me. Our room was ground floor near the office and receives heavy use. The motel 8 in town looks much newer. I would definitely check that out first.

« Perfect for person with allergies »

No carpet: laminate instead. No drapes: shutters instead. That means limited dust & pollen. That also means there wasn't any chemical smell from a cleaned carpet- I love that! Sure enough, when we left the next morning, I wasn't stuffed up. Bed was comfy- nice shower. You get a voucher for breakfast at Lumberjack's next door.

    « A comfortable Susanville motel »

I have stayed at the Trailside Inn several times, and they have always made me comfortable. They are also always making improvements, and the room remodeling has made a big difference. The laminate flooring is still a bit squeaky, but hopefully it will break in soon. :) I highly recommend this motel if you are visiting the area. Internet is great, lots of movie channels on the TV, and comfortable beds.

    « A good place to stay »

Nice room, the pool is not heated, plenty of room for parking, biker friendly, awesome restaurant right there, friendly, professional staff, beds are not very comfortable...maybe just me, but I had a hard time sleeping through the night.

    « Quick Stop/Dog Friendly »

We chose the Best Western Trailside for their dog-friendly policy. The hotel room itself was fine; the parking lot was dirty and full of garbage. Breakfast was provided at the restaurant next door where we could pick one item from three categories of items. It was a little perplexing that it was impossible to order enough for someone who has a gluten intolerance and cannot eat the pancakes, toast or waffles. For whatever reason, potatoes could not be substituted. Other than that, service at breakfast and at the front desk were fine.

« Made the trip to Lake Tahoe very relaxing - slit the long drive fom Oregon »

Arrived at noon and was able to check in right away. Enjoyed the pool at Trailside Inn and dinner in town.- Happy Garden. and breakfast in the morning at Lumberjacks. before our drive to Tahoe, less than 3 hours distance. We have always done the drive directly, but thought by splitting the drive would be more relaxing - it was! Fast check-inn and check out. Susanville is a very friendly town. We will stay at the Trailside Inn on our future trips.

    « Ready for sleep »

After hard day on the road, decided to try and get a room without reservations. Check here and luckily they had a room for me and my 4 legged friend. Check it was quick and easy. Girl at front desk was cordial. Breakfast is at the restaurant right by the motel. Great room and it was clean.

« Some good and some not so good »

We visited in early July. The bed had a VERY warm comforter. I would prefer sheets and blankets so as not to have to counteract the extremely warm comforter with turning on the A/C full blast. I managed to wriggle part way out of the gargantuan quilt through an opening on the top. Breakfast next door at the Lumberjack Cafe was fine. Dinner there the previous night was also good. Check out their gigantic chocolate cake!!

    « Nice, clean, friendly »

Great place to stay, close to Lake Almanor, Feather River, Hat Creek, Burney Falls all within a couple hours beautiful drive. Clean, nice rooms, spacious. Friendly staff. Beds are very comfortable. Great double sinks. Nice sitting area in room.

    « Pleasant overnight stay »

We reserved the room because of location. We weren't expecting too much, as we travel so very much, and pretty much know what to expect in each different hotel and with each company. But upon arriving we were greeted and taking care of very promptly at the front desk. Upon entering the room, it was very clean. I do stay in hotels so often that I check every corner. And I can honestly say this place is clean! The bed was OK better than most. TV worked cable was adequate. We stayed in room 123 and had a few issues with the Internet. The coffee pot is a one cup coffee pot style. They do have a microwave and small fridge in each room, double sinks in the bathroom and a fabulous shower with great water pressure! It was very refreshing to walk into a motel room where they actually provided enough tiles as well. They do not have any sort of fan in the bathroom just a window there opens. All in all, we would definitely come back and stay here. It's a really nice hotel for the price! Oh, and they do give you a voucher that you can go next-door and get your free breakfast, as they do not provide any of that at the hotel.

« ancient building that oversells itself. »

really surprised that Best Western gave its logo to this place. Old Old building with some upgrades ( like wood appearing linoleum floors in the rooms??? what is up with that/?) The mattress should have been replaced about 1000 body impressions ago and the noisy window AC was a relic of a bygone age road experience. We slept poorly and regretted choosing this place. They did have a military discount with made the absurd quoted room rate come down to just unreasonable.

    « Rustic but comfortable »

This was our second stop on our recent trip to Oregon and was obviously this is an older Best Western property. The staff was great and the room was cozy enough for our one night stay. We'd stay here again without hesitation.

« Good place to stay. »

Stayed here several times now and have always been satisfied. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly . Breakfast at the restaurant is free with minimum choices. Overall a good place to stay. Great food and Beers up the street at Lassen Ale Works.

    « Good motel »

Bed was comfortable, room was clean, staff was nice. Good overnight stay. Have stayed here 3 times this year already. I recommend this hotel for an overnight stay when passing through. The breakfast at Lumberjacks was good also. Nice staff each time I've been there.

« Friendly, Best Western Standard »

Best Western Trailside Inn offers predictable Best Western standard of friendliness, cleanliness and traveler amenities. We had everything we needed for a late-arriving/early leaving stop: fridge, big king-size bed, clean towels and linens, wifi and breakfast. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were just a bit too large for comfort; the wifi was there but always needed refreshing sign-in. Best was the breakfast coupon for the Lumberjack Cafe next-door; it was a great change from the Best Western breakfast buffet of predictables.

    « Best Breakfast Ever »

This hotel gives you a breakfast voucher for the Lumberjack restaurant on the same property. It was extremely nice to have a fresh hot breakfast before I had to leave. I was very comfortable in the bed. My only concern is the quality of the cleaning as I did find someone's hair in my bed and someone's food in the refrigerator.

    « We keep returning! »

We've stayed in this motel many times over the years, and it is consistently a good choice. The staff is competent and gracious, the facility is well-maintained, the rooms are clean and nicely appointed. We had a large room with two queen-sized beds. Our only suggestion (rather than complaint) is that there is no desk and straight chair, and there is room, even if would mean moving out the large couch. There are still two easy chairs and a table between them. It just seems odd to provide WiFi and no place to comfortably use it. This is not a deal breaker.

    « Trailside Inn was a Winner »

When we checked in I was exhausted from driving all the way from Klamath Falls to Susanville plus hiking the Bumpass Hell trail in Lassen Volcanic National Park where I mildly strained my knee. It was late and I knew we'd probably be roomed on the second floor and I didn't want to carry up the luggage with my bum knee,so when I found out it was on the second floor, I asked for a ground foot room. Immediately, the desk clerk upgraded me to a king junior suite at the same rate on the ground floor. The suite was enormous! It must have been close to 375 square feet and it even had two sinks and a bar sink. It also had refrigerator and little niceties like a cell phone charging by your bedside. We ate at the restaurant next door that also served a complimentary breakfast. The restaurant was part of a chain and not owned by the hotel, but the food was o.k. And the service was extremely nice considering it was so close to closing. Very friendly! This is the place to stay in Susanville.

    « Pleasant surprise »

Amazingly nice. Room 116 all updated and very clean. Free breakfast coupon for next door restaurant. Quite helpful with changing our reservation day but keeping the same rate. I'm not usually a BW fan but I would definitely stay here again.

    « Things to Fix »

Litter needs to be removed from campus. Please use solar cells or some other system to keep pool water temperature tolerable. There was, in some cases, floating dabris in pool water. Soap dispensary was out of soap on two separate stays. Overall experience was not bad though.

« Good place to stay. »

Nice place. Good sized room and a good bed. Pool area looked good, didn't use it. Provided breakfast is done through the restaurant next door. Was very good. Price for room was good. Would stay here again.

    « Clean, comfortable hotel »

A typical Best Western hotel - clean comfortable hotel with fridge and microwave in the rooms. Free wifi which unfortunately wasn't working. Staff told us that there provider has regular problems usually caused by weather conditions so if wi-fi is important to you this may be worth bearing in mind. The odd thing about this hotel is that breakfast was served next door in a Lumberjack restaurant. It was nice enough but I felt that it was odd having to call into reception in the morning to pick up my voucher to take over to the restaurant in order to get breakfast.

    « Awesome shower pressure »

A recently completed re-model of the bathroom with very tasteful tile-work and awesome shower pressure. The king-sized bed in our room was the most luxurious, comfortable sleep of our 10-day trip. For breakfast you get a voucher good at the Lumberjack diner immediately adjacent to the office, and while it doesn't cover everything on the menu -- included are scrambled eggs, waffles, cereal, oatmeal, bacon/sausage, etc. -- it's way more than many motel continental breakfasts offer, it's made-to-order and it's not self-service. Plus, you can order anything from the menu you want that isn't covered by the voucher at very reasonable rates.

« Good Place To Stay With All That Is Needed - Located Well For A West Coast Journey »

This Best Western Inn was comfortable, clean and quiet. We were given a breakfast voucher for the next door Lumberjack Restaurant. The breakfast, being cooked to order, was probably the best of all the various lodgings stayed at in the last two week business/vacation trip. Our only request would be a return to carafe style coffee makers. Single serve seems to be a trend spreading through certain hotel chains. Many business and long distance road trip travelers prefer to bring their personal preference of coffee. These single serves do not permit this choice. More importantly, they are not environmentally conscience since they are not recyclable. Please take request to heart.

    « I'd stay here again...receptionist was great..everything was done very well. »

Loved the REAL breakfast...AND the choc chip the front desk when 'check in'. Cookies were really a surprise to dead, tired customers and a real hit. The REAL breakfast was also a surprise and very appreciated.

« Great place to stay - clean rooms - nice beds. »

Friendly and helpful staff - great place to stay in this town. The breakfast is served by the restaurant next door and is very good. The town is also a nice place to stay and has several retail stores for any supplies needed.

« Great free breakfast at the Lumberjacks restaurant next door »

The rooms were just mediocre The toilets were great tho. Nice and high. For being pet friendly there's no place for them to walk or do their business. The free breakfast at the restaurant was very good. The service was good but a little slow. Our room had no carpet which could have been due to pet friendly but it wasn't comfortable

« A great place to stop with pets »

This is a very functional hotel off of Route 395 from Reno. This is a no-frills hotel with wooden floors which makes it nice if you have pets. It Includes a pass to the anytime fitness so you can get a workout. Also there is a free breakfast at the lumberjacks next-door. There are several OK traveling restaurants in town.

    « Bad Experience »

Pool closed during heat wave for four days, not told of this until after buying swim suits and water accessories for 3 grandkids, then had to tell them pool closed (had water in it but closed). Breakfast coupons for next door restaurant limited. Had to order more off the menu then was only given 10% off Plus gratuity and the menu prices were exorbitant.

    « not the best »

old furniture, tv was not working and called office. found out the problem was in using the remote with the way the direct tv receiver was located. This Best Western was not up to their standard. Ask for a ground floor since I use a cane and walker, it was on the lowest level however you still must go up several stairs.

We liked that the pet friendly room did not have carpet, that was the first motel we stayed at with regular floors. This motel was short on places for our dog to take her break. Had to walk clear across the parking area to the restaurant grass which seemed odd. The rooms were very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The exterior needs some freshening up. The restaurant served huge but delicious portions (maybe too much). Staff nice.

    « terrible experience »

this hotel was in dis-repair although the staff was cordial, the motel was in horrible shape. The electrical outlets were rigged to work. the shower was a dribble; the doors needed 2 hands to open. Overall not up to the standards of ourexperience with Best Western.

« Stay Away, Stay Away »

I am a BW fan and stay with them any time I can. That's why I was so disappointed in this property. The problems began with check-in with a convoluted process and a clerk who seemed not to care. When I questioned the reason for one aspect of the process I was told "It's policy". When I gave her a BW $50 travel card this seemed to confuse her. The room was the 1st BW property I can remember staying that had no carpet on the floor - hard wood. From early evening until well after midnight, the smokers/conversationalists seemed to be camped right outside our door. They began again well before dawn. During the night, it was our impression that the room above us had no carpeting either as we seemed to hear each and every footstep. Then, in the pre-dawn, the numerous heavy vehicles parked at the hotel began their "warm-up" process which continued for some time. When stepping out of our room in the morning there was ample evidence on the nighttime smokers with cigarette butts and assorted trash scattered in our area. The kicker came when we began the check-out process to discover that the $50 travel card somehow never made it to our bill. At that point, the morning clerk, a very pleasant, concerned and efficient young lady came to the rescue. She suggested that we go to breakfast and she would call the check-in clerk . Upon our return our bill had been credited with the $50 as well as a $20 credit for our experience. The check-in clerk had "forgotten" to apply the $50 travel card.

« Stay here only as a last resort »

This property does not have elevators so I reserved an accessible room in which they did not have upon check-in at approximately 8:00 pm hotel time and even worse the only rooms available; I was told, were on the second floor. The room was horrific old and dated with base boards and facings falling off, mold around the shower and absolutely filthy. Best Western is known world wide, I am amazed that properties such as this one are permitted to operate under these conditions.

« Comfortable, Clean, Good Staff »

Pricey for the area, however amenities were good. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. We rec'd a certificate for the restaurant next door - (a free breakfast at Lumberjacks). Very good food here. Good coffee too. There are dog rooms & a dog area out in back. We will definitely refer to others.

« Worked for our needs »

We were just staying one night on a return trip from Vegas. Found the room to be nice -- you could tell they had done some recent renovations. It was clean as well. What is really outstanding though are their front desk people. Very friendly. Experienced great service when confirming reservation, checking in, and checking out. PS: Full complimentary breakfast at the restaurant next door (Lumberjacks) is included with your stay. We didn't take advantage of it, but it was nice to have the option.

« Minimalistic hotel that is old and run down »

I chose the Best Western in Susanville because I am familiar with the brand and there were only a couple other options. This hotel is neglected. They offer very few services on site. You are sent to the restaurant in the parking lot for their free breakfast, but the restaurant is clearly annoyed that people are coming in for free food. The service is awful and the selection isn't great. They offer you a pass to the fitness center a block away. The interior of the rooms is old and in need of serious updating. The soap, shampoo and lotion are in reusable pumps that are attached to the wall. I find this unsanitary as they are clearly never replaced and rarely cleaned. The hotel staff was friendly.

« "Meh" - but breakfast at Lumberjacks was good »

Older hotel with inconsistent room quality and cleanliness. We had two rooms for 6 people - one was spacious and one was tiny, one was noisy and one was not too bad, one was pretty clean and one was not so clean. The breakfast vouchers are for Lumberjacks restaurant next door - full menu, good food but limited choices for the voucher and a ridiculously small amount ($2.00 - Boo!) if you choose to order off the menu and apply the voucher to the bill.

« If you have to stop, it'll do! »

Rooms have been renovated but it is done very cheaply. It was clean but very basic. The laminate floors are good for cleanliness, especially because this place is pet friendly but they did nothing to deal with the sound issues that laminate creates and carpet dampens. We were on the ground floor and heard every move the people upstairs made. The restaurant next door was good and we did get a free breakfast. All in all just an average place and would stay here again if I had to.

    « Newly refurbished rooms »

Everything was very clean and new. It was quiet and we slept well. For breakfast you get a voucher at the neighboring restaurant, which worked out nicely. I'll definitely stay again next time I'm in town.

« drive to the next one »

If you are a best western fan you may want to drive to the next city and stay at the next best western either direction or you may dissapointed, this one is alittle less fancy but it is still clean but the price doesn't match the acomadation.

    « Excellent »

This was such a wonderful place to stay, the staff were extremely helpful, caring and professional. Best Western has it right - the room was homey, clean and comfortable. It was like coming home. We had both our dogs with us and the Pet friendly rooms are very accommodating for our pets. I would stay here again without any doubts, and will always check Best Western Hotels first in any area we happen to visit or drive through and need to rest. Thank-you Best Western you are doing this right for the everyday traveler.

« Pet friendly in Susanville »

This is an older property, but pretty decent and clean. We had a pet friendly room which had laminate flooring, which I thought was great. The room was pretty spacious. Only gripe was the pillows. They were like giant fluffy round balls. We all had to sleep flat on the bed without them because they were so huge. Did not sleep well due to that fact (and the elephants that arrived late upstairs, but not the hotels fault.) Breakfast is at the restaurant next door. You get vouchers to eat there, and they are oddly specific about what you can get. And the vouchers were not the same. Not much of a big deal though.

    « WIFI Connection Unreliable »

We have stayed here several times and only once have I had a room with a good wifi connection. If you need dependable wifi, look at other hotel options in the area. Other aspects of the hotel were very good.

« half way between homes in NV and WA »

i have a service dog and a pet. they have nice grassy area. watch your step though. seems like if you are traveling with a dog you would have the sense to clean up after them. i never am there when the pool is open. both times i have used the free breakfast it was tasty. the eggs were cold and they happily brought me out fresh hot ones.

    « Nice Stop Over »

Had hoped to make it to Reno but glad to find a Best Western in Susanville as it was late and we were getting tired. The room was clean and recently renovated and with cozy furnishings. Did not care for having to get a voucher in the morning for breakfast at the restaurant across the parking lot. My husband went to breakfast but I did not. He says it was good. Seemed to be a bit on the higher priced end for Best Western.

« Good for the night. »

We didn't arrive to late at night and had not problem with the check in. Room as clean and comfortable. Nice place to stay for the night. Had to go across the parking lot to the restaurant for the complimentary breakfast.

    « Nice Stay »

We had to find a room for one night while traveling home from Utah. This motel was clean and friendly. They also have suites available. Overall, the stay was nice and uneventful. They have a full breakfast available at the restaurant in the parking lot. The value of the breakfast was awesome! You get a voucher from the motel, my family got waffles, eggs, and bacon for free. Much nicer than a continental breakfast.

« If you have allergies to scents/perfumes stay away »

If you have allergies to scents or perfumes, you might want to avoid this motel as they have glad plug ins in the rooms and the smell was so very overpowering. I unplugged the device right away but since it was plugged in near the bed, the pillows smelled heavily of the scent.

    « Not a great experience »

After been told to turn back by Highway Patrol because of snow conditions, I needed to hole up for he night in the "not so pretty" town of Susanville CA. The room itself was adequate for a Best Western, but, whether it was simply the weather or what, but really seemed like a bunch of unfriendly front end staff. My question as to why the wifi was not connecting in my room was largely ignored and the TV channel offering was perhaps the worst I've ever experienced in a hotel in the US...quite needed when sitting out a blizzard for an entire day and night! On the plus side, the Lumberjacks restaurant was right on the property and the complimentary breakfast there was a great start to the next day.

    « Nice Stay »

Convenient location. Our stay was comfortable. It was hard to keep the room at the perfect temperature. The room we were given had hard wood floors which was nice so we wouldn't track snow in, but it was cold to the feet! The bathroom was a bit tiny and pretty darn cold. Very dark though the shower tile was nice. Terrible shower curtain. Water did not stay in the shower. Beds were comfortable. Best Western breakfasts are at the Lumberjack next door which is kind of cool. Do not order food to go from the Lumberjack. Very expensive even with discount and the to go food doesn't taste so great. Best Western is not a bad place to stay. Its clean and customer service is nice.

« Good Place to relax after a long Drive »

The property itself is a little older .It is well maintained with modern amenities. The staff is pleasant and helpful weather or not assistance is need with your room or with information about the surrounding area or places to dine.

« Small town, nice hotel »

Small town so I wasn't sure what to expect, it was a late night check in. My only complaint is that the shower water spigots were too tight. We let the front desk know. Room was very clean and updated bedding. Small town so I wasn't sure what to expect. My room was above the lobby so I heard the goings on down there but it wasn't bad. They could update the heating/cooling systems, they appears to be older models.

« This motel has seen better days »

This used to be our favorite motel in Susanville. We will probably stay at the other place next time. This room was very small, had no regular chair (only the easy chair), no coffee, the hair dryer didn't work, the headboards rattled against the wall, and the beds moved around.

    « Best Western »

This hotel had a good location in Susanville. Next to a Lumberjack restaurant. No breakfast at the hotel, but you get a free breakfast at the Lumberjack, or $3.00 off any menu item. The room was excellent except for noise from the room next door. There is a lot of road construction going on in the area, and a lot of construction people staying, so it is noisy.

    « Needs better maintainence »

The front desk folks are very pleasant and they want to work with you but when your problem is maintenance, that is another matter. While taking a shower, the hot water knob came off. The heater sounded like an airplane taking off. It roared. I found a "Hot Pocket" under the bed when I was looking for something that rolled under it. .

« stay at susanville california »

not up to to best western standards. Dated decor and overpriced for the area. broken towel bar and defective TV. Lack of attention to details which Best Western usually has. I have stayed in many locations on my vacation and this location was disappointing.

    « Comfortable, nice staff »

Stopped late night and was glad they had a room available. They offered me the handicap room since it was only one of two left. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was very nice. Breakfast at the restaurant next door was very good and the staff there were extremely nice. Good experience all around. Would recommend to friends.

« Great place to stay »

Nice room! Great Food!!! Lots of friendly people. I like that you can walk to the restaurant. Staff was very helpful and took care of our needs.Nice location right off the freeway. Also like that you can park next to your room.

I would ask for a room away from the road and not next to the stairs. I have eaten at the Lumber Jack across the drive three times now and I like it when Best Western had there own breakfast Lumber Jacks just has not been good.

« Glad we picked this »

The perfect place to stay, especially with our dog. Much better than we expected. Clean, quiet, and great service. Well lit parking area.... We would certainly stay there again if we happen to be in the area!

    « helpful staff »

The staff at the Trailside Inn was very patient and helpful and the arrangement for a free breakfast at the restaurant next door works great. For those of you traveling with a boat or trailer there are some pull through parking spots that make it much more convenient. The motel is remodeled but old style so the floors might creek a bit and it isn't as soundproof as newer ones so I recommend turning on the fan for some white noise. It was nice to wake up to the Canada geese honking as they flew off from the river in the morning.

    « convenient location »

Older property but very clean. Breakfast included at great, next door restaurant. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Very convenient location for riding the Bizz Johnson bike trail. Great restaurants nearby, The White House (Chinese food) within walking distance. No hot tub.

The hotel needs some up grading the staff were very nice. The restaurant had great food. I think they need to have a better menu for breakfast. The bed was comfortable. Parking lot had plenty of spaces.

« Not the top notch BW - adequate to the need, allowed pet. »

Pros: BW honors my government rate though I do go prepared to show government ID. Trailside did read my special request for a pet friendly room when I booked online and there was no problem when I arrived with my dog. The parking area is large and well lit. I did not eat breakfast, so I can't speak to the food. Cons: I called and asked for a late check out -- $15, really? It extends checkout from 11:00 until 1:00. I agreed anyway figuring I would put up a minor fuss about it on arrival. But upon arrival the attendant said they were not honoring anyone's late check out request as it would make scheduling problems for the staff. Seems to be a problem they need to work out, after all, the fees they charge for the extra two hours ought to cover overtime for the staff, who likely may want the extra cash. Final 2 points: the bathroom is really small, and I'm only about 150 lbs and found is cramped. Then, the microwave and refrigerator (which was off and not cold upon arrival) sat on the floor in a long empty space that was perfect for a long counter. I hate putting stuff on the floor and asked about a different room and learned all the rooms are like this. I don't remember another BW with the same layout. It seems to me other BW's have a long counter with the microwave on top and the fridge underneath. Overall, the room was adequate to the need, but I'm glad I reduced my stay to a single night. I learned some days in advance that this business trip only needed a single night stay, and BW changed my reservation when I called well in advance of the cancel/chance policy - which I think is 48 hours, but I am not sure - do check that if your stay may change.Verdict: 2 1/2 - 3 stars

« truck running all night meant zero sleep for me »

The room phone did not work and no one answered the front desk phone for hours when I used my cell to call. I had a miserable drive home due to no sleep, had to stop and sleep in rest areas which I am not too comfortable doing. My delays then put me in Portland rush hour traffic which I would had avoided if I left on time and had actually gotten to sleep between the ac cycling and the truck vibrating the ac unit. I like this half way point between my two homes because it is Dog friendly. But people do not pick up their dogs poo and I always end up getting it on my shoes, yet I always pick up my service dog and pet dogs poo, even though I am disabled.

    « Not Bad - Not Great »

There are only a couple of nice places to stay in Susanville and the Trailside is one of them. It's clean, the staff were friendly, the bed was comfortable, and the pool was okay. No hot tub, though. The price includes breakfast at the Lumberjack Restaurant right next door. We were there two nights. Most people pull in late in the day and are gone the next morning. But, we were there to ride the Bizz Johnson Trail on our mountain bikes. So, we needed to be in Susanville for two nights.

    « Not Our Favorite »

The Best Western Trailside Inn in Susanville, CA was our hotel for one night, and it was one night too many. There is no elevator that we could find to get to the second floor. Access was outdoors via old steps to the second floor. The AC worked well and the queen bed seemed nicely firm. However, the bed seemed to be narrower than a queen should be. There were cobwebs on ceiling and only a small 32" TV. They had both a secure wifi and an open wifi. The shower soap pump did not work. I had to fix it in order to get soap. The nice shutters on the main room windows closed tight. The window in the bathroom was a horizontal slider and came off the tracks if not used carefully. This hotel looks like it was built in the 1960s and barely maintained. The outside has not been updated and the inside was not attractive. Breakfast was held in the Lumberjack Café next door starting at 6:00 a.m. but we had to leave before it was served so could not take advantage of it. This hotel should not be in the Best Western family. The cost for a night was $108 +tax. Score 2.

« a good enough place for what we needed »

While this didn't quite measure up to rest of the Best Westerns we've stayed at, it was just fine for a short overnight stay. The room felt a little outdated and more like what you'd expect from a roadside motel. But it was clean and the beds were comfortable enough. Instead of breakfast on-site like other Best Westerns, this one provides a voucher for a simple no-frills breakfast at a restaurant next door. Good enough.

« To much for to little »

Lady was unfriendly when I checked in, and talked so fast I couldn't understand her. The wall of the shower hadn't been cleaned in months. But breakfast was a voucher for the cafe next door. Food was pretty good and server was friendly. But not a big choice of places to stay in Susanville, CA.

    « Great Upgrade »

After driving 9 hours, this was a wonderful end to the day! The hotel has two floors and when we asked for first floor with two queens, they said they only had a mini suite which we could upgrade to for only $10 additional. What a pleasant surprise this turned out to be! We could relax and unwind in our sitting area and prepare ourselves for the next day of driving! Breakfast was good and this really helped start our great 2 week vacation!!
