« Great location, but otherwise disappointing »

My family (2 adults, 2 young kids < 5 yrs old) stayed here for 4 nights during the 2017 Christmas holidays to visit the Christmas markets and "Capital of Noel." We stayed in a superior double room. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay, though there were pros and cons. Pros: - room: average, clean. bed was comfortable. overall, the size felt small, but there are larger rooms one could reserve in advance. - location: the hotel is located in the west central part of Strasbourg, with all Christmas markets within walking distance, 15 min at the most. Very convenient. - buffet breakfast: simple and adequate with items including eggs, bacon, yogurt, cereal, juices, fruits, a variety of breads and cheeses. somewhat pricey in my opinion (>10 euros), but nice if you can find a deal where it's included with the room rate - service: receptionists were multilingual, kind, and eager to help. also free cookies and coffee all day in the lobby! Cons: - internet: unfortunately was slow. I did a speed check on on a weeknight at 8 pm, and while it averaged speeds of 6.2 Mbps download and 1.8 Mbps upload (average of 3 separate tests during a period of 5 min), it was inconsistent and seemed only barely fast enough to support poor quality video streaming. I find this unacceptable for a hotel nowadays. - lobby computer/printer: slow, outdated, and does not print (even with receptionist troubleshooting). ultimately, the receptionist had me email the document to them and they printed it from their desk printer, but it was nonetheless a time-consuming task - gym: there is none - breakfast eating area: unfortunately, this area is closed to guests after 10:30-11 am, depending on the day. Apart from breakfast, guests are not allowed to use these tables. In fact, we were scolded by the janitorial staff when we brought our takeout lunch to eat there. As a result, we had to pack our lunch and move it to our room, after which it smelled like food. If I had to do it again, I would probably choose another hotel.

    « Never again »

It had been years since we had stayed in a Best Western and after this trip it will never happen again. I had reserved a room with a queen and 2 twin beds. When we arrived at the door of our room we found 3 laundry bags in front of the door. I only mention this because after I walked in the room I thought we were given the wrong room. The room obviously was undergoing renovations as the framework of a drop ceiling was installed, but the ceiling had not been. This left an extension cord visibly running to a smoke detector that was hanging from a hook in the actual ceiling. I'm not sure of the French standards, but this would not meet code in the US. The furniture was visibly worn with tears on the corner of the big chair and the padding visible on a decorative chair in the corner. Another huge issue was that we only had a queen bed and a single twin bed instead of two twins. This meant that my son had to sleep on a pull out couch, which would have been fine if that is what we had paid for, but it wasn't. Also, they do not have room service and do not offer a free breakfast (I'm not sure why it says they do on trip advisor). In fact, the receptionist tried to charge us for breakfast when we checked out. Parking is at a premium and the garage operate by BW was full when we arrived. My husband had to park in a garage that was about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, good news is it was only 16 Euro rather than the 40 Euro it would have cost us if they'd had space.

« Great service, great location »

Central to everything, trams, station, shops and Xmas markets this is a great place to stay in a wonderful town, we had a great time here! The Xmas markets were busy but so good and a very pretty city.

« Good Location, Disappointing otherwise »

Best Western Hotel de France, Strasbourg France; This hotel is all about its location near the Petit France area of Strasbourg. The hotel has one small elevator used for both passenger and luggage transport. It is not only small, it is also slow. Rooms vary in amenities, but from traveling companions they are all deficient in some way. Lighting is generally poor, not all outlets work and there is little space for more than one suitcase. Breakfast is included starting at 6:30. Breakfast staff generally did not make an appearance until about 10 minutes later. They then plugged in the water for boiling eggs and brought out additional items. One morning, our tour director went to look for the breakfast staff but could not locate anyone so she went to the front desk. No one could be located there either! Overall, this hotel was quite a disappointment. By the way, Petit France is lovely and should not be missed

« Ok for a central hotel but needed update »

We had a superior room, overlooking the side street. Parking was a difficulty as the hotel garage was full, so the receptionist gave us a map with garages on that we would get 30% discount at.The room was very tired in need of decoration, the sofa bed was broken so you could not sit on it. Not sure what the room was superior to, it was a very average business man's room in a city. The location is right in the heart of the city. The free drink between 6 -8pm was not happening the evening we stayed. The breakfast was extremely busy and noisy but quite a variety. Pleased we were only there for one night.

    « OK for a night. »

The location of this hotel is great with loads of shops, restaurants, and bars only steps away, just a 10 minute walk to the cathedral, and on the edge of Petit France. Check-in was swift. All hotels should do this! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a lift, which seemed a bit shabby. Our room was large enough, but was not very welcoming or comfortable to hang out in. The bed was on the firm side. There were power outlets at each nightstand--excellent for charging phones and devices at bedside! There was no mini-fridge in the room, but the hotel said they do have a few available, so that's nice to know they exist. The bathroom was decent size with a shower (only) that had very little mold, which housekeeping could easily scrub away. The shower water pressure was good and the hot water stayed hot. There was a wall-mounted, two speed hair dryer. The free WiFi worked well. The hotel has a small parking garage for a fee, and a reservation is required. Our stay was OK (loved the convenient location!), and the price was very reasonable, but I'd be tempted to look elsewhere the next time I'm in Strasbourg.

« Comfortable hotel in a good location »

Overall I liked this hotel and if I go back to Strasbourg again will probably go back to the hotel. We arrived here on the morning train around 10 and since the check in was about 2 we were told that the room was not ready and they offered to keep our bags and explained the location and the sites to see etc. The staff were very friendly and willing to help. The only reason I gave them a 4 star is because we needed an iron box to press our clothes and we did not have one in the room and requested for one which was never sent. This is probably because they are very busy and I dont hold it against them. The room is large for European standards and the our stay was super comfortable. Two things stood out to me 1) The A/C was slightly noisy did not bother me but if you are a light sleeper it could. 2) The balcony had cigarette butts so they could do a better job with the cleaning. The rooms and the restrooms were spic and span.

« Pleasant stay and helpful staff »

The hotel is in the convenient location - you can reach everything easily on foot. Also, staff was great and helpful. I liked the room as well: it was spacious and comfortable. Since it was stifling, I appreciated conditioning system as well. I also liked that the hotel had a parking place, however, have in mind it's pretty narrow, therefore, we had some difficulties with a big car. On the other hand, everything's is easily solved with good driving skills :) All in all, I would recommend this hotel - price rate is acceptable as well.

« Renovated room, excellent view, family friendly »

We stayed at this hotel two times. The first in 2009 and then again in 2014. Both times the staff were accommodating and helpful. We asked fir the same room we had and it was given to us. The room was brand new the first time, very large and comfortable enough for a family of four. The double bed was comfortable, the kids beds were added and not so comfy. The bathroom was large and had space for all of our things. The toilet was in a separate room, which was helpful since there were so many of us getting ready at once. The view was to a small square and a fountain. There was a parking garage which was dark but got the job done. Excellent bakery right around the corner, essentially behind the hotel. This was one of the few places we could find to accommodate a family of 4.

    « Perfect »

Price quality is excellent. In the heart of the old town this renovated hotel. Very riendly staff, clean rooms, not too spacious, but will do just great for a good night sleep. Beds were very good; we slept very well, until the start renovating the building next to the hotel at 6:30am... Shower is ok, you'll notice if other guest start taking a shower as well, water temperature will vary during your shower session! Breakfast is again, price quality, good. Although, for the same amount (9€ pp) you can have a better breakfast at the local "Boulangerie". Owm and if your car is bigger than a ford ka or focus? Take another parking than the one of the hotel, this is old and freaking small!!

« Great location, parking, big room but shabby inside »

We were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room - suite with a big balcony overlooking the road. The decoration is quite bizarre - very dated (does not look like the images online!) with masculine brown colour scheme. Our room was very tired though. Good breakfast - you can load up on free coffee and other bits and nice touch was free beer and pretzels on the night we were there. CAR PARKIING IS LIMITED SO BOOK IN ADVANCE

« Going the extra mile »

I don't want to talk about the perfect room, the breakfast (absolutely delicious ( best chocolate croissants ever!) , the very convenient location and last but not least the affordable price ! I want to talk about the ?extra mile? , the professionalism of its wonderful personnel :here goes my story : One day after I left the hotel ( January this year) , being in Germany , I realized that I forgot in my room a very dear cashmere sweater and a book . I called the hotel and asked if my belongings have been found . They did found them and at my request they were sent to Germany , at my brother address. But the parcel didn't make it : was a mistake of the shipping company . The hotel personnel found the parcel and re-send it - this time it arrived . All of this at the hotel's time, diligence and energy ! I cannot find words to express my gratitude for their help and for them going ?the extra mile? to return my things . Roxana Houston TX USA

« Delightful! They have their 'happy' going on! »

Two nights here and it was the second time, the first two years ago. But this time a big improvement. Rooms refurbished, happy hour of beers and bretzels and the happiest most positive staff I have seen in a hotel for sometime! Now I know this could be a one off but the mood was consistent. Great check in and out, restaurant staff all abuzz, and concierge went above and beyond at every request. An absolute pleasure and thanks to the team for making this stay a real delight.

« Hotel on the edge of Strasbourg's centre »

This hotel is conveniently located, just on the northern edge of the centre of historic Strasbourg. A very manageable 10 minute walk from the rail station, and just a few minutes stroll everywhere else, the location is very good. It's on a small, old street, overlooking an old town square. There a little street noise in the morning but overall was peaceful. We were upgraded to a large room, that was indeed quite large with tons of room for our bags. The hotel is a bit aged but clean, and the fridge and the safe in the room were convenient. The bed was decently comfortable, though not the best place we stayed at. There's complementary coffee in the lobby and though we didn't time it right to take advantage, there are free beer and pretzels in the lobby every evening!

« Large Room, Good Location, Lumpy Beds »

We found the hotels in Strasbourg at Christmas time to be ridiculously expensive, so my group of four made do with this hotel, since it was a cheaper option. It was nice that we had a balcony, the staff was friendly, the room was large, and the bathroom was very nice, but the rooms themselves could use a redo. The carpet, I think, was permanently stained dirty and could use replaced and the beds needed the mattresses replaced years ago. They tried to at least make them comfortable with a topper, but they're a little far gone for that.

« Very comfortable and friendly staffs »

Love this hotel. Location is great very close to city center, shopping center, and tram. Bed is very comfortable. Breakfast is good. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Decoration is cute too! They serve aperitif and pretzels on the counter in the evening. The room view is not the best but I don't mind this. Room is not super spacious but who needs super spacious room anyway. Bathroom is comfortable as well with hair dryer, soaps, plastic cups, shower cap, shoe polish, cottons. It is enough and comfortable for us. It is not hard to find and pretty close to the train station too

« Favorite hotel in Strasbourg! »

I visited Strasbourg with my family and stayed here. We arrived a few hours before check-in and the staff welcomed us with hot chocolate and fresh pastries and cookies. We walked around town for a couple of hours and checked in to our family room which was absolutely fabulous! This room had a balcony with a gorgeous view, the room was clean and very large, WiFi worked well and the welcome event from 6-8PM was great with beverages and pretzels. Our rate included the fabulous breakfast buffet which was well stocked despite the crowd. The hotel staff were kind and professional and exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed our stay and will return!

    « Excellent! »

This is a very convenient location to/from the train station and all major attractions. The staff is especially friendly and helpful. I had an issue with my original room and the assistant manager personally took care of it to my satisfaction. The breakfast is very good and the afternoon beer and pretzel, is a very nice touch. I will stay there again and do recommend it.

« Overnight stay in Strasbourg........ »

We rented a family suite, which had a great view with balcony. The hotel has a garage which made life very easy. There are many shops and restaurants near the hotel. The vacuuming could be a bit better, but the room was well kept beyond that. It was a good stay and I would consider staying again if in the area.

    « Highly recommended »

Great location, price and service! I highly recommend staying here. We were really surprised by the quality of the hotel as it was surprisingly cheap. We also had some trouble with our train tickets and the staff was kind enough to help us print them.

« Convenient location, smelly room »

We stayed here for one night and upon entering the room I thought to myself, this is great for the price! After I entered the bathroom I was not so happy. The bathroom smelled worse than a public restroom. The aircon was quite old and kept turning on and off which caused a restless nights sleep. I wouldn't stay here again but I give it two stars for location only.

« Good value, good location ....could be better. »

The hotel is located in the old part of Strasbourg so it gives easy access to the river and the historic area. There is also free parking which is a plus in a city, although the parking area is small, so if you have an SUV be prepared to work on your parking skills. There was also a worrying amount of chunks of concrete on the floor & we half expected to come & find dents in the car roof! The hotel offers breakfast but, as always, it was expensive so we found a place to eat in the city. Our room was a good size and nicely decorated with little touches such as a folded towel shaped like a swan. Unfortunately none of this took away from the overwhelming smell of stinky feet in the room when we entered. Either the carpets needs cleaning or housekeeping needs to speak to their staff about personal hygiene. We left the window open & eventually it dissipated. There is construction nearby so if you want a lie-in keep the window closed, although this may not help! It would also be helpful if there was a rack for suitcases in the room. The staff were polite and helpful.

« I keep going back as it is well run and reasonable value for Strasbourg »

I had stayed here many times when on business. This time I'd booked a three bed family room.for me and my two teenage grandsons. Regrettably it had been made up as a double and a single BUT it was put right during our first walk round the city. The hotel is excellently placed to walk everywhere or catch a tram if one needs a rest. Parking a car is possible at a charge in the tight underground garage (reservation required). The desk staff were always present and always helping people with a cheery tone. Our room had air conditioning that worked silently and we needed it. The bathroom stood up to our usage. Breakfast included some hot food which pleased the two lads. It used to be a simple cold buffet and this addition is an excellent improvement. The breakfast price was good value. In overall terms the hotel is middle budget and against prices in Strasbourg it is value for money. Clean, well run and definitely trying to be quietly professional. An interesting touch was the free beer tasting between 1800 to 2000 in the upgraded reception area.

« Ok hotel, worth the value »

The hotel is located in a central part of the old city with easy access to all major sites.Hotel staff very friendly.Rooms are very basic but comfortable. Breakfast area was crowded and not inviting. Would return if fiven a room facing outwards, not to inner court

    « Western yes - Best - I hardly think so »

Stayed there 2 nights. Went to the room and was greeted by a jackhammer going for 2 hours outside the window, in addition to a crane moving building materials. As it was Saturday the next day we were informed that work wouldn't happen on then - lucky we are just there for the weekend. Hardly the old world charm you would expect to see in Strasbourg . Wanted to put the passports and money in the room safe - the thing was not bolted down - you can pick it up and move - great for villains, they just pick the thing up and carry it away - what was the hotel management thinking. Bed ok, bathroom ok, but a bit of mould. Whole place a bit battered really. Breakfast ok, but a pretty dingy area. Staff a bit indifferent but got the job done. If you've got the choice, stay somewhere else - this place should really not the proffered by QANTAS holidays - 2 stars at the very best - 4 is ludicrous.

    « Perfect! »

The hotel is well situated and easy to find. From ghe hotel you can easily reach the whole heart of Strasbourgh. The staff at the hotel was helpful, serviceminded and nice. They spoke English, which we appreciate. The breakfast was ok,the room clean and fresh. Perfect hotel for a few nights stay!

« Great Value Great welcome »

3rd day of cycle trip down Rhine . Great Hotel in a Good location. friendly staff Tea making in room Free tea and coffee in reception , and best of all free beer tasting in the foyer in the evening !! luggage area for bike . Good (if a bit corporate )breakfast . Would stay here again

« Nice hotel with friendly staff »

We stayed only for one night. It was in general a very pleasant stay with a very good breakfast and friendly staff. The location is just great, just in the middle of the city, 5 min walking and you are in the heart of Strasburg. The room was clean, however a bit dusty: under the bed and the carpet. However, it is very easy to fix, so if the hotel will take this small remark into consideration, I would recommend it to all tourists.

    « Perfect location »

We were on an upper floor with a good view across roof tops. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The building itself is modern unlike most of the historic half timbered ones around, but that is not important! The reception staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast excellent. It was an easy walk from the station and also into the old central part of town.

    « reasonable overnight stop »

Nice beds, good breakfast, convenient location near restaurants. Pleasant staff. Seemed to attract students as it was quite cheap. Loo (the room, not the actual toilet!) was bit small and the parking was a bit disappointing. We had reserved parking but when we arrived the underground parking was full so we had to park in a public multi-storey car park which looked a bit unsavoury.

« Close to Strasbourg City »

This hotel is very near to Strasbourg City and not too far as well to the Major train Station (about 5-7mins). Pretty Ideal for business as well as families. The front desk staff were very helpful to meet your requests as well.

« Huge room , with balcony and view over strasbourg »

We stayed only one night in this great hotel and beautiful city. Wish I had known how good it was going to be , we would have stayed longer. We had originally booked a standard room , but we like a balcony and asked if there were any available. Thi the very helpful receptionist , showed us a couple of rooms . The one we ended up staying , was huge , with a massive bathroom and small balcony. This hotel doesn't look much from the outside ,but it is in a really good position, and everything looks like it's been refurbished recently. Lovely and clean and modern. Well done guys great service and excellent little hotel. Recommend you stay at least two nights in this beautiful city.

    « Spontaneous Visit »

The location of this hotel was perfect. Walking distance to most of the sights, but yet on a quiet street. Hotel staff were great when we checked in, and very helpful throughout our stay. Would definitely book again if we were to find ourselves in Strasbourg!

« Looks good on line but not up to standard »

Room very basic dirty carpet very stained. Very small. Bed dips in the middle. View over dirty roof good location overpriced stayed more centrally in other cities better quality rooms and more reasonably priced. Parking very very difficult for medium sized car.

« Very friendly and great value »

We had a great overnight stay in the hotel. We had a family room which was HUGE with a lovely big bathroom and a balcony over looking the little square. Staff were so friendly and welcoming with nice little touches like free use of coffee machine downstairs. Breakfast was great with a really good selection. Only downside was we thought we had booked parking but they said we hadn't and after a very long journey it was stressful but they gave us a reduced rate at nearby car park but still cost us 18 euros so do make sure you have booked a space.

« Good price and location. »

Good price and location, but we went during Easter and the breakfast room cannot cope with a full hotel. The staff are friendly and efficient, but there were not enough during breakfast time to clear tables or refill everything on the buffet, including glasses and cutlery. Rooms and bathrooms perfectly in line with expectations. I would stay again, but not in high season.

    « Great location!! »

This hotel is perfectly located close to the main train station and to all interesting things to see in Strasbourg such as the "Petit France" area, the cathedral and Place Kleber where you also have good shopping streets and restaurants.. The service was good and we found our room to be clean and neat. I would gladly stay here again!!

    « Great location & staff »

The hotel is very well situated to visit the old city of Strasbourg. It is a bit difficult to find when arriving by car (no drop off area) as it's situated on the corner of an old building. The parking is also very tight; don't come here with a big car! (16€/night extra) We had a large family room which was very clean. The mattress was a bit hard for my taste. While being situated on the road side (2nd floor), the room was very quiet. The WiFi was ok for surfing/email. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices for everybody (including gluten free bread). The staff was really nice (Marianne was great with the kids) and we enjoyed the complimentary tea and coffee. Overall an excellent experience.

« Only the services save this hotel. »

We booked for 2 nights. The rooms are big but very dusty, the hotel isn't renovated recent, is more 3 stars, not 4 at all!! We saw how the sheets are deposited, in a room with scratch walls...... The staff are nice, helpful. The breakfast is good. Because of the rooms, i do not recommend this hotel.

« Lovely hotel and great staff »

We stayed here for 4 nights and found the hotel and the staff to be excellent. The rooms are comfy some are a little small but very clean and the bathrooms modern and clean. The buffet breakfast was good again the staff go out of their way to help with any requests you may have. They have free beer and pretzels from 6pm until 8pm which is a nice touch, there is also free coffee in the lobby as well as tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms as well as a mini fridge. The location is brilliant so close to all the sightseeing, train and bus stops. The staff that make this hotel such a winner, thankyou for a wonderful stay.

« Great spot in the city center »

We booked the Hotel De France at the last minute when traveling by car from Nuremberg to Dijon. The rooms were basic, but in very good order and clean. The staff was excellent, especially Elie. We arrived fairly late, but he gave us directions to a quality local spot for dinner and beer. Great spot for walking to the Cathedral and everything else the city center has to offer.

« Pokey hotel near station »

This hotel is on a not especially nice street in the ollder part of Strasbourg near the station. The common areas have been modernized but the rooms less so, though the sink and shower had been updated, The room itself was small and featured really ugly 1970ties type furniture. The bathroom was also small, though everything did work. Breakfast was tolerable and WiFi was included. Not a place I would stay again!

« Well placed in Strasbourg »

Hotel well placed in the historical center of Strasbourg. Nice room. Friendly reception, with coffee, tee and also viennoiseries freely avaliable, and beer and pretzel happy hour. Only problem, the room servicing was somehow below expectations. Beds were not well made and left with crumpled sheets.

« Very good hotel in Strasbourg centre; I 'll come back »

I spent three nights here during the week. I have been at this hotel a few times. I come here regularly because: (1) all the staff at reception are very kind - with a smile - at all times of the day and night; (2) the rooms are spacious with bathrooms that are clean and well equipped (I was on the third floor); (3) it has great location in the centre of Strasbourg; and (4) the wifi works (though you have to log in each time you come back on the wifi network ). There is a TV with multiple international channels, including BBC1 and 2. The breakfast did not come included. At 14 euros it is not particularly cheap. There is a machine to make tea and coffee in the room, But the end-result, at least for the coffee, is not great. It might be worth including instructions. That is the only reason I did not give the hotel five stars. Maybe I will try breakfast next time. I was in Strasbourg during the week that the European Parliament is in session. It is probably a bit cheaper at other times. I was told at the reception that they look forward to seeing me again. They will do because I will certainly come back.

« "Very good location, clean with a nice breakfast" »

We were there for the second advent of the Christmas market! We were met by a friendly and helpful staff who helped us with questions about the attractions, breakfast (allergies) and storage of our luggage. Room with shower was big and clean ( cleaned every day). Breakfast buffet with choices... In the lounge you could drink water, coffee and tea free of charge. Location was very good. We had close to attractions, Christmas markets and restaurants ( between 2 and 10 min walk).

« One of the best experiences we've had so far »

The staff both at the reception and in the rest of the hotel was extremely nice. Very helpful and genuinely kind. The breaky was a very complete and very good buffet. Rooms were very clean. There was free (good quality) coffee at the reception as well as free Beer and Pretzel degustation in the evening. The hotel is really well positioned right in the CBD. This was a fantastic experience and we will definitely stay in that place again during our next visit in Strasbourg.

« Clean with good breakfast »

The hotel is clean. A bit dated looking, but nice enough. The room is a good size. The bathroom is decent sized and works well for two people Inter net connection was good. Bed was awful. And ask for extra pillows, they only give you one small one. The breakfast buffet is plentiful and quite good. However very busy. Great location, easy walk to everything in the central area of town.

« Excellent Location, clean with a nice breakfast »

We came walking from the train station. The city was on "lock-down" and taxis could not get close to the hotel. It was about 10 min walk. Check in quick. The room is fairly standard, large but simply decorated. The bathroom clean. The room did not have enough towels or pillows and it took 3 phone calls to get them delivered but it all came with a smile. Breakfast was very nice with excellent variety of hot and cold options. Nice coffee options. In the afternoon there was hot wine and bread with coffee and tea all day long. Location is excellent and you are 5-7 minute walk to the center of it all. The front desk gentleman was very friendly and helpful. Not sure if I would consider this 4 stars and it was pricey (we paid about 180 euros per night) but Strasbourg hotels are very expensive in general when compared to other towns/cities outside Paris. I have to admit the wi-fi was very good. I probably would come back to the hotel, if the price is lower.

« Close to everything in the old town »

A comfortable, compact hotel in the centre of Strasbourg old town. The staff are friendly, and they do a couple of things to make you feel welcome, such as you can pour yourself a free beer in the evening, and there is tea, coffee & pastries all the time. One thing they could change is that every time your computer or mobile goes to 'sleep', you have to re-log back into the internet - which was a bit frustrating. However, it did work well when logged in.

« A bit dated and overpriced, but nice staff »

We spent one night here after spending our first night in the Ibis. This was 50% more expensive than the Ibis, but I'm not sure it was 50% nicer. The hotel is a bit dated (although there have been some efforts to update it). Still, there were some stains on the carpet and such. The room and the bathroom were both spacious, and we had a "cute" view. However, the wifi was a bit weak, and the breakfast did not come automatically included. All those downsides aside, the hotel is well-located, and all our interactions with the staff were incredibly pleasant and they were very friendly and helpful. If you can get this hotel at a good price, I would recommend it.

    « Central location »

Hotel lovely and central Staff on reception could not be more helpful or pleasant Room clean and spacious, but due to location very noisy if window left open Would stay here again, but request a different room perhaps!

    « Professional staff »

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and found it the perfect spot to enjoy Strasbourg. Centrally located and we found the staff to be very polite and professional. Didn't get a lot of sleep the first night as we were on the first floor and the curtain didn't close. As it was weekend the staff couldn't get someone in to fix it but we were promptly relocated to the 4th floor where I had a much more enjoyable night. One small annoyance; I found the rooms and restaurant of the hotel pretty warm, guess there's a woman in charge of the heating here ;-)

« Central location in a Beautiful City »

If you get lost, Just look for the ugliest building in Strasbourg, that said we had a great stay, looks are not everything, the hotel is located right in the middle of town, so its a great base for your stay. All the main places to visit are located walking distance from the hotel, the train station is close by too, which was a bonus as my wife and i were travelling by train around Europe for 6 weeks. The service is great which is really important. Rooms were clean and comfortable. They also offer free beer and pretzels everyday.

« Not 4 stars, at least not in my case... »

I only stayed one night at the hotel and unfortunately I do not have the best experience (I have also stayed in this hotel several years ago and I don't remember to be thrilled, but this time it was worse...). In any case, room 406 was extremely noisy, I didn't get to sleep much. I don't know if it's situated next to big pipes, heating tubes or what else, but all the time there were noises of running water, then clicking noises of some machine turning off/on etc. (as if someone had a Nespresso machine in the next room and used it every 5-7 min). Definetely not a place to get some sleep. Regarding the furnishings, it's very simple, standard - nothing of cosiness or whatever hint of 4 stars. The room and the bathroom were quite big though. And if I remember well, there was a kettle with complimentary tea/coffee in the room. Regarding the service... I was very tired that evening, so decided not to go out for dinner and watch a movie on TV instead. But then I discovered that someone had messed-up all the TV channels, they didn't correspond at all to the "TV card" with the numbers and the names of the channels. The menu of the TV had been changed to the Romanian language and of course you needed a code to search for channels. And when I called the reception to ask for help, they said "sorry, we can't help you!) (at 20:00). So I managed to change the language and broke the code (how can you expect for people not to mess-up your settings when the code is "1234"?). Do it yourself style... Oh yes, the Wi-Fi... it was disconnecting all the time and I had two devices, so to connect to one you had to disconnect the other one again and again. Not very practical. Anyway, no thrills, might be forced to stay there again, but it won't be on my list of preferred hotels in Strasbourg. Or maybe next time I'll be more lucky with the room :)

« Good hotel in a splendid location - staff training needed »

I stayed at the hotel for a plenary session at the European Parliament. The hotel had all the amenities expected. The room I stayed in was clean, quiet and nicely decorated. I doubt that I will come back though. When I arrived on Monday night the receptionist asked me for my passport yet couldn't find my name on his list. After a but of a hassle, I managed to get a room, only to be called up upon about 15 minutes later. The receptionist asked me if I was sure that I had booked a room at this hotel because he didn't have my name - although he had just found me on the list 15 mins before. I had to go down to the reception to solve things, no offer to come up to me. This all happened at 10 PM. Anyone that has been to a plenary session knows that you do not want to be kicked out of your hotel room as it is impossible to book rooms at short notice during these weeks. The issue was solved in the end, and all the other staff was utterly nice. However, I do not wish to be brought in this situation again so I'll pick another hotel next time.

« Nice Stay at Strasbourg »

Strasbourg it's such a beautiful city, and this hotel is located right in the middle of downtown. All the main places to visit are located walking distance from the hotel, train station is close by too. Business areas are accesible by bus or train. The best thing I found in this hotel is the service, which it is not easy to find in France. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Good option for business & leisure. They offer free beer and pretzels everyday. They also have a rate that includes breakfast.

    « Acceptable Accommodations »

We stayed here three nights with another couple. The hotel is in a good quiet location. Our room was clean and acceptable but carpet was stained and looked worn. Had trouble understanding how to use the AC and no directions. The bed is low to the floor and the bathroom small. No tub only a small shower. Lighting in bathroom is not good. The maid service was ok but sometimes it was hard to tell if they had been here. They offer free coffee but often there was no creamer or directions on how to use the machine. You do have a nice hot pot and coffee/ tea service. Staff do speak English which helps and provide you with information about the area. The pillows are small and older. No directions for the TV. No ice as I guess that is an American thing but they will give you a cup of ice. There is also a small in room fridge. The room had very long curtains that drug on the floor. Also a small balcony that didn't look like they cleaned it much. You can walk here from the train station which takes about ten minutes. They have free small beers at 6 each night with pretzels till 8 but by 6:10 they are out of beer and pretzels and never refill any of them. I wouldn't give this hotel a four star rating. More like a three or two and a half. They have breakfast but charge 16 Euros per person which is too high. The wifi was also fairly slow on the fifth floor.

« OK and good location »

Stayed here 2 nights in a junior suite. Bed was comfortable but room despite a refurb, needed updating. bathroom had a double sink but hand towel rail was coming away from the basin. If you were on the larger side there was no way you could close the door on the toilet. Wifi though free was patchy on our floor Staff were very helpful and they make the most of the limited public spaces they have. Overall an average stay but there are better

« Very friendly hotel in a gorgeous city »

I have to say I really enjoyed my couple of days at this hotel. We arrived about 6 pm to find it was happy hour as soon as you walk in the door, free beer on tap and locally baked pretzels. This got our stay off to a great start I have to say. The check in staff were very friendly and spoke very good English which was good as my French is non existent. The room was quite a good size with a big bathroom. Things weren't new but they weren't that old either, however it was very clean. The buffet breakfast was fantastic, great selection of hot and cold foods and plenty of them. The kitchen and wait staff were lovely I have to say as well. It was my first visit to Strasbourg and I have to confess, I fell in love with it. The hotel is in the old part of the city and everything is only a short stroll. Being France, food was not a problem, so many beautiful restaurants, so little time. I can't wait to go back to Strasbourg, and when I do, Hotel de France is where I will be staying again.

« Excellent (but we had a discount!) »

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in August. The reception staff were very helpful and speak lots of different languages (we heard Arabic, French, German, Italian and English!) We booked through a Secret Hotel deal and wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise. Our room was cleaned excellently every day and was air conditioned which was very much needed! We were surprised to see that there was FREE beer and pretzels EVERY DAY 6-8pm! Which we took advantage of before going for our evening meals. Excellent location, ten minutes from the train station and five from the cathedral! Had a great time! Also they let us leave our bags on the last day for free.

    « Functionnal & Well located »

Located in the very center of Old Strasbourg. The rooms have every thing that a common tourist would need. The bed and air conditioning are superb. The breakfast has a high quality. Staff is very friendly but sometimes not so professional. The hotel definitely lacks public areas.

« Excellent Hotel In Great Location »

We found this a fairly-priced hotel in a beautiful city along the main highway from Switzerland north on the border of Germany. There are some good bistros in walking distance and convenient...

« Excellent Option in Downtown Strasbourg »

I have been in this hotel several times. The location is excellent, walking distance to main attractions in downtown. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area, shopping stores, etc. The service is usually very good and depending on the offer you can get free breakfast which it it not common in France. Price is in accordance with the location and the usual rate of the area. Bedrooms are in an excellent condition, I have been there in summer or winter and everything has work perfectly.

« Excellent service, nice location »

I stayed here for 3 days and I liked everything at the hotel, especially the helpful staff and the location. The room is nice and clean. Internet is not bad too. The breakfast, though not very rich, is still a good continental one, with fresh juice and bread, bacon and eggs, yogurt, cheese and jam.

    « NO more! »

Good location. Room is simple. Staff is horrible!!! The receptionists are unfriendly. We put out the board "don't disturb" and we told for the receptionist also BUT the cleaning lady wanted enter every day!!!
