« Fantastic Stay at the Havelet »

What can I say, what a fantastic weekend. I booked it for my wife's birthday as a surprise, and we both ended up being surprised. Arrived on Saturday around 2pm, and checked in at reception to be told we've been moved from our 'regular' room. Wasn't sure on this, but were escorted to our free upgrade to a suite !!. Wow .... beautiful room with it's own entrance, lovely decoration and on-suite. Tea and coffee, and even had an espresso machine !. We also made good use of the spa facilities, pool, jacuzzi and steam and sauna. Once finished we made our way back in for afternoon coffee. Later, after a shower and change, it was off to the grill room. We had a lovely meal, with the staff being so attentive and helpful, nothing was too much. After our meal, it was back to lounge for chill, then back to the room, to nestle in to the king size bed for a fantastic nights sleep. It must have been comfortable as upon waking up, we found there had been an f9-f10 storm outside, and neither of us heard it !!. Anyway, as part of the deal, we had an afternoon tea, which we were allowed to come back later and have in the excellent Copenhagen restaurant. Glass of Pruscecco, and then finger sandwiches and cakes, scones and coffee. Spoilt or what!!. The missus was well chuffed with her birthday weekend treat. Just like to say a huge thank you to the management and staff at the hotel for making it a memorable weekend.

« The Hotel is Great but The Staff are Better »

We've now stayed at Hotel De Havelet twice and each time our visit has been fantastic. Located a short walk from St Peters Port Hotel De Havelet is a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle. The Hotel itself is always clean and tidy. Well decorated, warm and inviting. The Staff give 100% all the time to make your stay the best it can possible be. The management put a lot of time and effort in to meeting the guests and do not hide away in the background and that really shows and comes across to the guests. The Copenhagen Bar was a new addition for us this year and was a pleasant edition to the great facilities that were already on offer. It might only have 3 Stars but this hotel, staff and management all offer 5 Star service. Thank you for looking after us and letting us enjoy our stay with you.

« The hotel staff are exceptionally well organised and efficient. »

We thoroughly enjoyed a four night stay in this excellent hotel. The staff at all levels of the organisation made us feel like valued customers from the moment we arrived. Our room (27) was very comfortable and well appointed, the restaurant service and the food was good, and the general decor of public areas in the hotel is pleasant. We also enjoyed the indoor swimming pool, complete with sauna, staem room and jacuzzi. Overall, this is an exceptionally well managed hotel in a pleasing location and we hope to stay there again soon.

« 3 star but so much more »

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel, I enjoyed it the first time and loved it this time, the staff are some of the nicest and polite people I have encountered from the cleaners to the waiting staff. The hotel is stopless, the restaurant has been refurbished and it looks fab, the bar and restaurant were both very busy on the Saturday night, but the standard of service and food was of a very high standard. The pool area was relaxing and we'll equipped. I have stayed in far superior hotels but all the little extras her were perfect, bathrobe and slippers in the room, little biscuits and chocolates in with the teas and coffee selection in your room. I would recommend this without hesitation and look forward to my next stay already.

    « Couldn't fault it »

Wonderful week with my mum at this fantastic hotel. Great location, friendly service (the staff go out of their way to be helpful), excellent breakfasts, lovely indoor pool. Fabulous. It's at the top of a steep hill but there's a regular shuttle bus to the town and it means there are spectacular sea views. Loved it.

    « Excellent Short Break »

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel de Havelet. In particular, the staff at every level of the organisation were friendly, helpful and made as feel that we were valued customers. Our room (27) was comfortable and well appointed, the restaurants and public areas were very agreeable, and we took full advantage of the swimming pool, steam room and sauna facilities. We plan the stay at this excellent hotel again next year.

    « Wonderful stay! »

Several members of our family stayed at Hotel de Havelet recently as were visiting Guernsey for a family party and reunion. The hotel is ideally placed to walk in to town(though maybe not for people with mobility problems as quite a steep hill) We found the hotel staff to be very welcoming and friendly and keen to assist. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed and my husband made good use of the indoor pool. The bar and restaurant were both excellent and obviously very popular with locals too. Breakfast was lovely and with stunning views out to sea and beautiful weather for late October it really was a perfect setting. We would definitely return!

« Excellent warm and friendly hotel »

Still as good, an excellent hotel with full amenities, great indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Try the Copenhagen bar and grill, superb menu and great food. Overall rating superb!

« Comfortable, friendly and good value »

We loved our 3-night break at the Hotel de Havelet. Clean and very comfortable, and very attentive staff (without overdoing it). Breakfast every day in the Wellington Boot restaurant, really good. On our last evening we ate dinner there too and it was delicious. The views out to the Castle are magnificent. Out of season the guest minibus stops, and the walk up the hill is quite steep. Fine for us but it might be an issue if you have restricted mobility (but everywhere is hilly in St Peter Port). Highly recommended - I would certainly stay here again.

    « Excellent Hotel »

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. We found it to be very clean and tidy throughout. Staff were particularly helpful. They responded to our particular circumstances very positively and made more effort to make our stay comfortable than we expected. Complementary mini bus service was very useful as the walk back to the Hotel was short, but steep. We also enjoyed the company of Bobby who took us on a free island tour. (Arranged by hotel) We used the spar facilities every day for a couple of hours. They were spotless, fully functional and very quiet. Half the time we were on our own. Food and waiting staff were great, but will review separately. We loved this place.

    « Excellent Island break »

We decided to have a channel island break for 5/6 nights and selected the Best Western Hotel De Havelet in St Peter Port, Guernsey. This was a return visit to the island for us as a follow up to a yachting holiday a few years ago when we got stuck on the islands for four days due to stormy weather and we couldn't believe our luck when our return ferry for this trip was also cancelled on our final day due to bad weather. We have stayed in various Best Western hotels in the UK and found that the standards are generally very good and this particular hotel raised the standards bar. From initially booking in through to our delayed departure the staff were friendly, the service was excellent and no request was too difficult even managing to accommodate us for an extra night due to the late notice ferry cancellation on a busy weekend. The standard of food and service in both the Wellington restaurant and the Copenhagen grill was excellent and very good value for money. The rooms are very well appointed and the superior rooms at the front of the hotel have lovely views of the harbour and castle. The views also from the Wellington restaurant over the harbour and Coronet castle are magnificent. During the season a complimentary bus service tour around the island is ran from the hotel and the driver Bob was a mound of historical information regarding the island and provided several stop offs including a coffee stop. We wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend the hotel for anyone who is visiting the islands and wants accommodation that is well run, with efficient friendly and polite staff where no request is too difficult for them and where customers are treated as valued customers

    « Short Weekend Break »

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting with fantastic views from the restaurant overlooking the castle. The staff were extremely accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The Manager was very helpful and very "hands on" which I think made for the welcoming atmosphere in the hotel. We will definitely be back in the summer

    « Excellent »

My husband and I went for a meal this evening. All I can say is excellent all round. Staff, service and food. Will definitely be going back very soon. Well done. Would recommend anyone, thinking of trying, to please do so. You will not be disappointed.

« Superb Customer service all round ! »

Just returned from a 3 night visit ....what a superb hotel all round - mixture of old and new, excellent food etc etc but the highlight was the fantastic customer service levels from every single member of staff across all different roles and aspects. I visit many hotels regularly and this really sits at the top of the league for its price range - all staff and managers/owners should take enormous credit

« Beautiful hotel with friendly staff - a Guernsey Gem »

As a business traveller I am so grateful when I manage to stay in a truly lovely hotel with staff to match. Conveniently located up the hill from St Peters port it is an ideal location to walk and explore the very attractive surroundings. One rather quirky aspect to Guernsey is the lack of street signs - a throwback to war times when the signs were taken down to confuse the Nazis - they continue to confuse to this day. Getting lost seems to be the favoured form of sport on this lovely island.

    « Top marks! »

My parents recently stayed at De Havelet and couldn't praise the wonderful staff and this hotel highly enough. They had a ground floor room which was superb, comfortable and spotless. The food choices for breakfast and meals in the dining restaurant were excellent even for people with smaller appetites. No need to worry about walking up or down the hill to the hotel as there is a daily shuttle bus, which takes hotel guests without transport, into town, a very welcome bonus. They couldn't fault anything, and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Guernsey. They hope to return again!

« Superb staff, great breakfast and lovely views »

Great hotel. A three star hotel with five star service. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. I am not sure who is in charge of training the staff, but he or she should set up an academy! All the staff were really great. I travel extensively and stay at some very nice five star hotels around the world but none matches the friendliness of the people running the De Havelet. If ever I am in Guernsey again, I will be certain to stay there. The food at the Copenhagen is not only excellent but very reasonably priced. The rooms came across a little dated (I am more used to ultra modern hotels in Dubai etc) but the decor added to the character of the place. A five night stay. I was working while my wife was looked after by the staff. Great stay.

    « I didn't want to leave....honestly! »

We spent four days staying in this wonderful hotel whilst visiting our daughter who lives and works on Guernsey. From the moment we drove into the courtyard it became very clear that this was a little bit special. The hotel and restaurants occupy adjacent buildings, although they are connected by a "secret tunnel" as well as a five second walk from door to door. Great fun. The restaurants were fabulous and we were never disappointed by any of the meals that we had. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals were all of outstanding quality and generously portioned. I've attached a few photos to prove the point. The pool and spa area were real havens for us and the jacuzzi is to die for. We stayed in room 27 which had a balcony and a great view. The moment the door was opened for us by our delightful receptionist we were both immediately struck by the high standard of care that had been taken to present and prepare the room for us. I've stayed in five star hotels that would regard this level of attention to detail as something to aim for. The room was made up for us each day and the standard never dropped. Outstanding. Again I've attached a few photos. Now for the real stars of the stay...the staff. I have genuinely never stayed in a hotel of this size and found ALL members of staff so courteous, considerate and mindful of us as guests. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the service we enjoyed at the hands of these wonderful people was second to none. Staff were patient and happy to spend time with their guests. As I watched over the course of our stay staff treated all guests with a level of respect and care that was admirable, despite one or two trickier clients who, if I'm honest, I would have given short shrift. Smiles never faltered and demeanors were always cheerful. Fabulous. For me it comes down to one question, "Would you go back?" Unequivocally, and without even a microseconds hesitation, YES!! Do yourself a favour if you get the chance and visit this hotel.

« A Lovely Place to Stay in Guernsey »

We really enjoyed our recent stay at the Best Western Hotel De Havelet. The hotel is ideally located in St Peter Port so that it is easily reached from the airport and only a short walk into the town. There is ample parking too. The views from the hotel across the port are stunning particularly from the Boot restaurant and made breakfasts there a real treat. We made full use of the pool / saunas and hot-tub which were wonderful after a day exploring the island. Our room was very pleasant, well equipped, clean and in good order. We used both restaurants and liked their menus so much that we didn't go anywhere else during out week stay. The food was delicious in both. However what made our stay most enjoyable was the staff at the hotel who from the moment we arrived to when we left could not have done more for us. Always friendly and courteous they made us feel so welcome. Highly recommended and we shall definitely stay here again.

« Good Place but for longer stay »

The hotel is located at the top of a very steep hill just a little bit out of the main town area. It has a lovely view of the harbour and surrounding area. The rooms are fine and the breakfast good. There is an excellent small swimming pool that seemed very under utilised. Service and friendliness of staff is really good. The only negative was we were there for a long weekend in mid September and it was a pain walking back to the hotel each night. For such a short stay I would have preferred and recommend staying in the town of St Peter Port itself.

    « Excellent Hotel, Ideal Location...With Absolutely lovely Management & Team !! »

We stayed at Hotel de Havelet for 4 nights over the past weekend and enjoyed our stay tremendously. We traveled with our friends who have stayed at this hotel many times, we also have friends who live on the Island who stay here once a month due to its calming and relaxed excellence which has to be high recommendation in itself. The hotel is clean and very well presented with great detail throughout. Personally I think it is the best positioned Hotel on the Island, with great views of The Castle and Harbour of which we enjoyed every morning with our breakfast, a great start to the day. Gennaro the manager and his team were genuinely caring and did their up-most to make our stay the best it could be. The swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room were great after a days sightseeing, all very relaxing ! We ate in the Wellington Boot Restaurant with 6 other friends on the Saturday evening and the food and service were all excellent. I cant rate this hotel any higher and I really do hope to return there one day.

« Excellent meal and overnight stay. »

I would recommend this hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The meals at the Wellington Boot restaurant were extremely good and for once there was a choice of good vegetarian meals, that rarely happens. The atmosphere in the Copenhagen Grill did not fit in with the overall ambience of the hotel, only ate there once but would not do so again. The rooms and facilities should have been rated higher than 3 *. Views from the main restaurant were out of this world, would certainly return.

    « Business and pleasure »

Excellent hotel. Rooms lovely and clean. Great location. Manager and the whole team help to make your stay that bit more special. We enjoyed eating in the new restaurant Copenhagen, very good food and attentive service.

« Great Hotel with Excellent Staff »

Great hotel for our 4 day wedding anniversary break. Found it hard to believe it only a three star hotel. Room was very comfortable and location good for getting out into St Peter Port. Above all the staff were all so helpful, friendly and efficient, without exception. Food in the bar and grill was very good and we were lucky to be able to attend the Wild Night evening held as part of the International Food Festival. A great break in a great hotel. Thanks to all the staff for your care and attention.

    « Excellent Hotel. »

We were recommended by our friends who have stayed at The Havelet many times and we now can certainly understand why! We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, The Manager and his team, couldn't have been any more friendly and helpful. The staff, service, cleanliness and food were all first class. Our complimentary trip round the Island was thoroughly enjoyable, Bobby was very informative and entertaining. The choice of food was impressive and I particularly enjoyed the fish dishes. We will hopefully be returning next year and bringing fiends.

« Great Staff and food. »

We went for a meal on Sunday. Food was great and the staff amazing. The restaurants x 2 at this hotel are both smart, relaxing places to eat. The view both restaurants overlook the harbour. A fantastic place to eat.

    « Simply the best! »

I have visited Guernsey on various occasions but this has to be 'the best'! The Manager and team are fantastic, I have been very impressed and will definitely return! I travel a fair amount but rarely find that 'personal touch' which is evident as soon as you step through the door here! Thank you!

« Excellent Hotel with great food. »

We stayed two nights and were made very comfortable and welcome. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We ate in both nights, once in the Wellington Boot restaurant and once in the Copenhagen brasserie. Both evening meals and breakfast, served in the Wellington Boot, were of a uniformly high standard, it's well worth eating in either of them The views from the Wellington Boot are stunning, ask for a window table if you can get one. The only slight niggle was that our room was advertised as a ?superior room with garden view?. It looked out over the inner courtyard garden, but the most noticeable and prominent feature was a fire escape from the floor above, which didn't quite meet my expectations. Still, we didn't spend a lot of time looking at it and it would be churlish to mark them down for that. We'd be happy to stay again, but might ask for a room with a better view next time.

« Relaxing place to stay »

Although situated in St Peter Port, this treasure of a hotel is nicely tucked away in a quiet location overlooking the harbour area but within easy walking distance of the town centre itself. The rooms are well appointed and equipped with everything a traveller could need, such as a hairdryer, an iron and ironing board, tea/coffee making paraphernalia a TV and free wifi access. The beds are comfortable and the decor is both tasteful and fresh. Without exception, all of the staff were helpful and friendly. The food offered in both of the restaurants was of a very high standard and the ambience in both is relaxed and informal. I also feel that the breakfast offered deserves special merit. The range and choice of foods offered is to bo commended. I have stayed in larger establishments that do not come close to what is offered here. In summary, this is, in my opinion, an excellent, value for money hotel and one to which I plan a return visit, hopefully sooner rather than later.

« Fabulous setting and hotel »

I have just spent 4 days at Hotel De Havelet, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. I took my 10 year old son, my Mom & my best friend. Every morning my son & I enjoyed a swim before breakfast and I loved the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. The facilities were first class and breakfast was outstanding - so much choice and variety. We ended up trying out both restaurants for our evening meal during our stay and both were excellent. The manager and staff were all friendly and helpful. The views from the restaurant overlooking the castle were stunning. We will definitely be returning.

« Friendly staff. Pretty location. »

This is a comfortable hotel, in a good location. The communal areas are fine, although very traditional, which of course would be good for some; not so appealing to others. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I particularly liked the Copenhagen bar which was a little more contemporary in design and ambience and the garden was a lovely place to have a drink- great views! Breakfast was good. The hot food looked freshly cooked, although I didn't try it. The room was fine. I did wonder how a tall guy would manage with head height in the shower. It was okay for me as I'm 5'7 but I think a taller person might find it difficult. Would I return? Yes: for God location and friendly atmosphere!

    « Enjoyable stay »

I think this hotel deserves more that its official 3 star rating. We stayed in a standard room which was perfectly adequate for our visit as we spend most of our time outdoors. Minor complaint in that the bathroom steamed up as there was no extractor fan and the room may have been a bit warm in the height of summer without aircon. The pool area was very nice. Reception staff were very efficient and helped us with reservations for Victor Hugo's house and taxis. Clientele mostly elderly which we found gave a bit of a subdued atmosphered but pleased that the Copenhagen restaurant attracted a younger, more vibrant crowd from the town which was encouraging. We really liked the vibe in there, though it would seem some guests don't like the buzz - we did. Breakfasts were good, food in Copenhagen also good and portions were large. (Note: Prices in Guernsey are high, particularly when eating out, and I think many people from mainland UK find this so. I think it would be nice to be offered tap water and a basket of bread as a matter of course - applicable to all restaurants we ate in while there). Would recommend / return to this hotel.

« Nice hotel but let down by Bar and Dining areas »

I have been coming to this hotel at least 4 times a year for the last 10 years. Comfortable rooms but let down by poor servicing. Breakfast is served in the Wellington Boot restaurant, service could be better, staff not as smart as they used to be. The newly refurbed Copenhagen bar and grill does not fit in with the hotel. The grill area is very dark and noisy, very cramped and some people are choosing to eat in the bar, this means there is no space in the bar for hotel residents to sit and have a drink, when there are empty tables available in the grill. Open plan means whole area can be very noisy.

    « Disappointed »

Have stayed here many times over the Years and always made welcome by Staff and Management. Rooms have always been very good and very comfortable but unfortunately during this visit we did experience some issues with the Servicing and Cleanliness of our Room. Also experienced problems in the Bar area as there is no area for Hotel Residents to have a quite drink. Although these were dealt with by Sandis Zile the Assistant Manager they should not really be happening when somebody is paying £180+ per day for B&B. Would normally mark as 4/5 but can only give 3 on this occasion.

    « An enjoyable 8 day stay »

Before booking we checked the hotel reviews, and with some minor exceptions to some points agree totally with them. It is an excellent establishment where we enjoyed our time, would recommend this to anyone and would certainly stay there if we went to Guernsey again - providing there are deals available (see comment later). This review is partly for prospective guests, and also, partly for the hotel management as an after-stay email from them asked for either this method or direct. I sent one direct but was not able to expand upon the (very) minor points where I felt they could have improved. We also completed a hard copy feedback form prior to departure. Frankly, most of the down side is only nitpicking, as without doubt it was one of the best 3 * hotels I have stayed in, let alone a Best Western one. I have no idea what facilities are necessary to move up a grade, but it can't be far away! Room I decided on the upgraded room (£20 a night extra) and it was well equipped, clean, comfortable and both well furnished and decorated. There are no sea view rooms at de Havelet but there was a pleasant view from the double window which was able to be opened fully - necessary in the climate we experienced as there is no air conditioning. I could not fault the room, with small fridge, good Wi-Fi, safe, two chairs with table and plenty of lights. Bathroom Recently refurbished by the look of it, with a window as well as extractor fan! All functional and nice looking, but a couple of things that I would have expected to have been reported by the cleaners (so I didn't do so) but none of them impacted upon our enjoyment or use of the facilities. Firstly the covering knob for the shower/bath water selection was detached from its plunger, and left for the 8 days laying on the bath side. The toilet was not fixed properly to the floor at one bolt, and the door needed 'easing' so as not to cause a noise when used at night. Hotel facilities. Can't fault anything, lovely pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi accompanied by reclining chairs both in the pool area and outside on the grass/veranda. Towels provided , with showers, toilets and changing rooms all in situ along with the daily papers and some magazines. Delightful lounge, elegant entrance hall to the house and pleasant reception area with an underground tunnel from reception into the bar and dining areas in time of bad weather. Staff Friendly, efficient and helpful throughout save one night in the main restaurant (Wellington Boot) where there was obviously something amiss and most had a long wait that lead to some getting cold food, and another in the Copenhagen when it was very busy and some staff could seemingly not cope unless specifically directed to take on tasks. If you have the chance to do a (free) island tour with Bobby, the knowledgeable shuttle driver it is well worth doing, and his service was very useful with the hilltop (almost) location. Not a place for someone who wants to go into St Peter Port or further by public transport or has restricted mobility, but hard work for others who don't want to use a taxi although the shuttle is very good if a little restricted during the afternoon and not available on a Sunday. Food Generally excellent with plenty of choice, a good standard, and well presented. Plenty of choice for drinks if somewhat pricey but probably on a par with most of the other establishments in Guernsey. Many people complained that the portions were too large, but I would have liked to have seen a greater variety that did not have a lot of cream or fat in the preparation cooking and there was a distinct lack of white meat although plenty of fish - again probably indicative of an island hotel? Overall then, a really nice hotel and worthy of the rave reviews it gets. However, I do wish people could be up front as during my stay the General Manager was on holiday - yet a couple of reviews made during that time have replies on Trip Advisor from him. The Assistant Manager was superb, even if he and many others trotted out the same words of platitude with regular monotony. If there was a problem during my time there (mentioned earlier) I am sure all guests would have understood rather than be left in mid air wondering why they were not getting their food. It wasn't the fault of the waiters but no doubt they bore the brunt of comments although most of us had a bit of a laugh about it afterwards. Cost. High for any 3* hotel, and when one looks at the offers available for October it is almost half the price of September. I was fortunate to receive the half board for the price of B&B which made it palatable (no pun intended) but even at 10% discount which was the other offer, I think it too expensive for what it is - but that is my own judgement based on other places I have stayed in. Perhaps the Channel Islands prices in general are higher than the mainland and although my last three stays have been in Best Westerns and this was by far the best, I still feel the same. I guess you get what you pay for but on this occasion I certainly did not feel cheated despite the charges!

« Enjoyable stay at the de Havelet Hotel »

I stayed for 4 nights late August/ early September in a superior room with pretty views over the garden. The room was very quiet. The staff were polite and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious. I also enjoyed swimming in the pool. Would be happy to stay again.

« Short Break in Guernsey »

We stayed here Bank Holiday Weekend. The staff were excellent and very polite & helpful all round the property. The head receptionist was very good. The bar area was modern and comfortable with a restaurant off the side. We ate upstairs and had an OK meal. The room was comfortable if a little dated. The pool area is well maintained with a small sauna and steam room. There are many steps on the premises and the hotel is at the top of a steep hill. If you turn up the hill out of the premises and follow the hill down into town it is shallower and longer with a couple of pubs (next to each other) which are worth a stop. We walked it every time and didn't use the shuttle. Not that bad once you've done it. Overall would recommend staying here.

« First Class Hotel on the edge of St Peter Port »

We stayed here for 3 nights in August and were very pleased with the hotel which is well maintained with friendly and helpful staff. We had a superior room with a lovely view over the harbour. The restaurant was good for dinner and there was a nice selection at breakfast but they couldn't cook porridge properly - the only reason I have not given maximum score for this hotel. Everything else was top notch. If you are driving, you need to approach from the bottom of the Val des Terres. We drove in from the top and it was the narrowest passage I have ever driven through with plenty of scrapes on the walls. There is a courtesy shuttle bus into town which is handy if you want to go to Herm or Sark on the boats.

« Another wonderful stay at the de Havelet »

This is an excellent hotel with superb amenities and wonderful, welcoming staff. The superior rooms have all one would wish for and the food - all meals, including breakfast, are exceptional. We have stayed here often and will do so again soon - and years to come. Well done to all the Management and staff at the de Havelet - you ake us most welcome.

    « A true Gem »

Had no Pre conceptions about this hotel as I was travelling here on business. What a lovely surprise. Well kept hotel. Lovely staff. Swimming pool and jacuzzi. Spacious rooms and two fantastic restaurants on site. My only reservation would be the hill you have to walk up to get to it. It's very steep and not well suited for elderly or less able. Having said that, the hotel runs a shuttle bus (free) to the town at various times in the morning from 9am and at 5.30 in the evening. Taxis in the town are not easy to find as the normal busses do not climb the hill to the hotel. Apart from that. Lovely hotel. Lovely views across the harbour too

« A very nice hotel with excellent staff »

It has been our best experience on our trip to the Cannel Islands! The location is very nice above the port and the noisy main street of St Peter Port. The room has been very nice, large enough for our stay (8 nights) and always kept cleen and tidy. The staff was good to excellent, even the new staff members arriving from many different places all over Europe. If you stay in the hotel and the weather is nice to sit on the verana, order an afternoon tea "deluxe" and enjoy ... there is nothing more to say. Thank you Gennaro, you do an excellent job!

« Far exceeds the expectation of a 3* hotel »

Absolutely lovely hotel, with very good accommodation and beautiful views over the castle and the ocean.Situated high above St Peter Port it is ideally located, with ample parking and extremely good restaurants for both breakfast and daytime/evening meals. We had breakfast , afternoon tea and evening meals on different occasions and all were memorable. The food and service in the restaurant is far better than any other hotel we have visited on the island. We ate in the Wellington and Copenhagen restaurants located on site and they were truly excellent. The on-site indoor pool was clean and relaxing. The outdoor seating area outside the main house an ideal place to sit, relax and have afternoon or a cream tea. We can not fault the whole experience and the friendliness and help we we were offered by all staff was what you would expect from a 5* hotel. We would truly recommend the De Havlet !

« One of the best hotels anywhere. »

My wife and I stayed for a week for our Silver Wedding anniversary. We had a superior room which was clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet on the ground floor. All the staff were friendly and efficient. Both restaurants (Copenhagen and Wellington) were excellent for service, quality and choice of food. The hotel is a short, steep walk into St Peter Port and very convenient for the bus station (bus drivers very helpful). A special mention must go to Attila (Restaurant Manager) for leading a great guided bike ride through the quiet lanes around the island. We hope to re-visit in the future.

« An amazing level of service in a beautifully situated hotel »

This is our second consecutive visit to this hotel and we were not disappointed. From the warm welcome at reception to the high quality service at meal times this place is what holidays were made for! There is a huge range on offer at breakfast and again in the evening and this year we had the opportunity to sample the recently refurbished "Copenhagen" bar and grill downstairs. We loved this as it had the same modern feel as the Reception area and our room with music to match. (Although music and decor are, of course, up to personal taste, we found both of these in the upstairs restaurant a bit dated although the view is spectacular.) All areas of the hotel are spotlessly clean including the pool area and we felt that internet access was better this year as we could access it in our room rather than having to use the computer downstairs. The staff here are, without exception, highly professional yet they manage to remain un-stuffy which has made us feel so welcome on both visits. We made the most of the complimentary bus tour to see the island and appreciated Attila the restaurant manager taking us out on hotel loaned bikes for a three hour ride. We really can't recommend this hotel highly enough and are pleased that both trip advisor itself and "Best Western" have acknowledged this in the form of various awards. Long may this continue!

Having breakfast over the wonderful view to the island of Herm is one memory that will stay with any resident. This wonderful hotel just oozes class. This was our 2nd stay at the Havelet. We'll be back .

    « Brilliant Stay »

This was our third holiday at the de Havelet and it was once again superb! From the cleanliness to the amenities and the excellent staff, our stay was spot on. A big thank you to Gennaro and his staff.

« Wonderful week on this beautiful Island »

We stayed at the Hotel Du Havelet for a week at the end of July, beginning of August. We had a room in the quadrant on the lower level. The room was nicely decorated, clean and cool. A bit too cool on the chillest day as we didn't have the best weather, but a few minutes with the radiator on soon warmed it up. The room was quiet and the bed very spacious and comfortable. We had a fridge and full tea and coffee making facilities. Bottled water was supplied on the first day, but not on subsequent days. However, there is a water cooler in the swimming pool area where we topped up on a regular basis. We went B&B and were very pleased with the breakfast. You have a full choice of continental with the option to chose a cooked breakfast from an extensive menu. They even supply champagne at breakfast for just £3 a glass if you fancy treating yourself. Breakfast is served until 10am, so you don't have to drag yourself out of bed at dawn to enjoy a leisurely dining experience. The leisure facilities were excellent, with an indoor heated pool, Jacuzzi, Steam-room and Sauna. Towels are provided. We were very lucky as there were never more than a couple of people using the facilities at the same time as us. There is a shower poolside with more in the changing area. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much for them. We are not sure if the hotel is particularly young family friendly as we noticed that there were no children staying during the period we were there. The hotel is very close to the town of St Peter Port, but situated half way up a steep hill. This was fine for the younger ones in our group, but would have been too much for the elderly. All in all we had a very enjoyable and comfortable experience and would happily stay there again.

« Ok but not fantastic »

Went to the Copenhagen bar for afternoon tea. They have completely remodeled the area and the decor is very nice. The food came with a good range of sandwiches snd cakes but the service was quite slow. We asked to take what cakes we could not eat home and we left with them wrapped in foil. However we were surprised when we arrived home later to find that for some reason they had only included some of the cakes we left. We don't know what happened to the rest. It was a pleasant enough experience but I would say there are better venues on the island for afternoon tea.

« Staff take pride in helping guests »

Having stayed at this hotel for many years, I am often worried that my next stay will not be as good as my last. The Hotel de Havelet and its fantastic staff, however, always manage to make the current stay better than the ones before. The staff take a great pride in working at the hotel and this shows in the attention to detail and level of attentive service they give. They are justifiably proud of their Best Western and TripAdvisor awards and obviously want to keep hold of them year on year. The Copenhagen bar and grill has been a well judged and brilliantly executed remodelling and face-lift to the 'Saddle Bar' it replaced and has breathed fresh life into the hotel's bar and restaurant offering. Lunchtime and evening menus offer a choice of well cooked and delicious foods - which you can watch being prepared by the chefs through a glass wall at one end of the restaurant. There are several different menus to choose from and if you want something from the Wellington Boot Restaurant while eating in the Copenhagen, or visa versa, the staff are more than happy to oblige. The breakfast menu is one of the best I have seen anywhere - including expensive London Hotels with Michelin * restaurants. The main hotel is a period building - Duke of Wellington visited his mistress in the house - so creaking floorboards add to the charm. There are more modern room built around a courtyard and swimming pool if that is the kind of room you prefer. If you want modern corporate blandness and mediocrity, this may not be the place for you. If you want service second-to none, great food, great views and comfortable rooms, book now!

    « Exceptional staff and a "hands on"manager »

First time at this hotel and already discussing our return. The highlights were the caring and professional staff and the Copenhagen food and reception staff. Our Superior room and bathroom were large and thoughtfully equipped with a few little extras (mints, fudge, etc.). We had a problem with water pressure to the shower at peak times but this was largely resolved by the end of our stay with improvement every day and a manager who was closely involved in resolving the issue. A must is to book the Copenhagen restaurant as it is popular with guests and locals and the food is some of the best in the area. The high rating is deserved as everyone went out of their way to ensure our stay was so enjoyable. Well done staff and Gennaro-the manager!

    « Great up grade »

Had a very pleasant stay at this hotel . We were upgraded to the room over the porch as shown on the photo. A fabulous little restaurant at the hotel which most of the guests used daily. Great food and wonderful staff. Just missed having air con but otherwise a lovely stay in a lovely hotel. PS I think the main hall way needs a new paint job on the ceiling. The 'clouds' looked like psoriasis ( a with a bit that that looks like it is inflamed ! Redecorate that hall way ... It could be tasteful!

« my hotel de havelet »

This was a lovely hotel, the room was excellent as we had our own access door to the room from the outside. The breakfast was both continental and full English and the service and view were excellent. We ate in the hotel every night as the hill was too much for us to climb. We ate in the Copenhagen restaurant every night and it was top quality. The hotel provided a mini bus to drop you into town every morning except Sunday.

« Old Fashioned High Quality Service »

Staff were excellent throughout the hotel. Room was on top floor. Very clean, with bath over shower, tea making facilities and in-room internet. Breakfast quality and choice was excellent. Love the coffee. Nice pool with sauna.

    « Lovely birthday treat »

We stayed at the Hotel De Havelet for a weekend break to celebrate my birthday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, all keen to ensure we were having a good stay. We ate in the restaurant which was very good value and had one of the best fruit de mar dishes I've ever had. The restaurant has a lovely view over the water too.

    « Excellent Hotel »

We stayed here for a week on Bed and breakfast but when faced with the hiily approach decided to have dinner at the hotel each night. This proved to be a good decision as the food and service in both restaurants is first class. The hotel facilities are slightly better than the average 3 star hotel and very comfortable and clean. One downside was the shower performance which at busy times failed to produce very little water flow and wildly varying temperatures. We did complain about this but were told that on testing everything was OK.We solved the problem by taking later showers than the other Guests. The Hotel offers a free Island tour twice a week which was excellent but you would need to book on registering as the mini bus serves 3 Hotels and is fills up quickly. Overall an enjoyable experience.

« How could it be better??? »

From the first moment we arrived we knew that this hotel would be perfect. The setting is good, being on a hill, so that it overlooks the port. A big view of the sea is obscured by the foliage, so this is more a hint of sea. Good view of the port's fireworks. Every staff member, with no exception is just plain nice - a word which means very little nowadays, except as a British understatement. However, the staff here show the meaning of the word in its original sense- as an ideal at which to aim! Everyone, from to bottom of the hierarchy would stop and chat to us, as if we were from their own home. This creates a very relaxed atmosphere. The bedrooms were large and quiet. An exceptional touch was that there was a bank of sockets for personal use, so no more hunting around and rotating the single socket normally provided. Chocolate bed turn down service of course. The leisure pool comes with sauna and steam room, as well as its own garden area. Fresh towels readily on tap. Breakfast was excellent, with good portions of fresh cooked English, and with scarily creamy local milk and butter. Main meals were excellent, giving no good reason to eat elsewhere. Our four day trip was too brief - we need to come back next year for ten days at least, to give us a chance to rest in the hotel, and forget seeing the rest of Guernsey.

« Idyllic hotel in a beautiful location »

A must . This lovely hotel has so much to offer Location with lovely views of the castle and sea, very friendly staff to compliment the very homely surroundings The rooms are all very clean and each has its own character. We stayed in a large double with views of the pool/ garden. The whole ambience is very tranquil Breakfast there is a very ample choice from continental to a variety of cooked dishes served on the first floor of the hotel with view of the castle and sea We always stay here and as I grew up on the island it is a treat to come back and stay here Thankyou to all the staff for making ourvstaybso welcoming and special T

« Brilliant, but not for disabled ! »

This is one of the best hotels we've visited anywhere! Unfortunately, my wife is slightly disabled, making excessive walking and climbing stairs a chore! It seems the whole of Guernsey doesn't give the same priorities to disabled people as we do on the mainland. If I didn't know better I would say that steps and sloping roads were invented in St. Peter Port. To drive in St.Peter Port can be nightmare, one way streets everywhere. I suggested at the hotel a local highway code should be issued to all car drivers. There are very few traffic islands just lines on the roads, priority is give to those with the most patience and the broadest smiles. And when can I drive on the pavement to avoid oncoming cars? All that said, The traffic wardens are generous to 'blue-badge' holders. You can park free just about anywhere!!! There are areas of the island towards the north and west that are flat, allowing easy access to the beaches and buildings. St. Peter Port is a lovely town; interesting shops, restaurants, museums and things to do when on holiday, despite what some people say about Guernsey who have never been there. The people here are great, friendly, helpful and strangely polite. The HOTEL De HAVELET is faultless! Manned by people from mainland Europe: Portugal, France, Italy, Poland, Holland, Bulgaria, Latvia etc and they all speak good English. It's easy to believe you're holidaying in mainland Europe, very interesting! A little gem is Bobby the hotel bus driver (American). He's an encyclopedia! A great character with a sense of humor dried in the island sun. His free island bus tour happens twice a week, don't miss it. The hotel itself is a listed building, which means they can't install a lift (once again, common sense takes vacation). We had room 3, a lovely room on the same level as the entrance and reception. It has good size bathroom with a bath and a corner shower cubicle. Just take your own grab rails! The bed was large in spacious room with plenty of storage space. Access to other parts of the hotel can be a problem. Two flights of stairs to the indoor swimming pool, which is excellent - not forgetting the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The main restaurant and breakfast room is only accessible via a flight of stairs, although, there is the downstairs brasserie. There are easily accessible outside seating areas for relaxing and eating. Lounge areas withing the hotel are beautiful, there is also the hotel computer free to use by guests and free wi-fi. The food at the hotel is superb, including the buffet breakfast. Cooked breakfasts are freshly cooked and brought to the table. No more congealed eggs or luke warm sausages. Kippers and Salmon dishes are also available. This is the only hotel I've been in where they have cheese and biscuits trolley instead of a sweets trolley. Cool or what! PLACES TO VISIT: Victor Hugo's house- A must for all culture vultures. Nothing has changed since he left in 1870. He was here on the island for 15 years where he wrote Le Miserable, plus others. A useful point- it's free for disabled and their helpers. Very, very interesting. Castle Cornet out a limb from St. Peter Port: definitely worth a visit, even only to avoid rain storms. Lots of history, guns and steps. The National Trust Victorian shop- Sweets like they used to be. Interesting for the kids. You might as well rot their teeth whilst looking at history! Corner of Coupdee Lane. My favourite eating place was The Cornerstone Pub. A walk up the hill from the Town Church will find you there, and not far from the Victorian shop. A good selection of real ales and euro-fizz lagers. The food is exceptional. The first time I had a 'cheese ploughman'- I had to bring most of the blue-vein cheese back to the hotel, it took two days to consume. Apart from wonderful food the atmosphere is also great. Don't miss it!! Easter Village restaurant: near Tourist Information office. Good views and very good food. Three courses for £13.75. Another gastric goody is the 'Boathouse' near the marina. Outside seating available. Fish dishes here are wonderful, especially the fish pie.!!! If you have two good legs, go for it. It's a wonderful experience.

    « A very enjoyable stay »

We wanted a hotel on the edge of St Peter's Port and this one fitted our needs perfectly. If you are walking back from the town, it is a bit of a climb but the views from the bar and restaurant make it worthwhile. The room was very comfortable but it was difficult to cool it down on a very hot night. You do not appreciate air conditioning until you do not have it! The bar and restaurant were both very good and breakfast had a good choice of cold buffet and freshly cooked hot food.we found all the staff attentive and extremely helpful. If we return to Guernsey, I am sure we will return to this hotel.

    « Excellent lunch /birthday »

I just want tell a big thank you all staffs for a very good service and excellent meal .Me and my family we went for my father in law birthday meal lunch and we enjoyed! We will be back definitely . You made our day . Sorry if we stay a little bit longer then lunch .We just didn't wanted go away .Excellent !

    « Very good hotel »

Stayed here in July for a week wasn't sure about the trip advisor rating but had nothing to worry about. It is an excellent hotel and would like to recommend it. The room was very good, clean and adequate. We went B&B but had no problems getting a table for dinner in Copenhagen restaurant

    « Outstanding »

We booked a romantic break with champagne, chocolates, and fresh fruit in our room as well as robes. The hotel, the staff, the food and the views of the bay are wonderful. From reception through to the waiting staff, maids and senior management everyone was attentive and helpful. The shuttle bus in the morning to town as very useful as it enabled us to catch an early boat to Sark. Even the hill, walking back up from town usefully gave us exercise in advance of dinners to die for. Cannot recommend the hotel enough.

« Not sure what all the fuss is »

While this hotel is perfectly clean(apart from the Windows) and tidy I struggle to see what the fuss is about. My room 14 had a fridge that would stop/start all night long, constant footsteps both outside my room and from above. And as others have said it's very tired and somewhat dated. It is not my intention to be hard on the hotel but when you pay £140+ per night I would expect better. This hotel is the same price bracket as St Pier Park unfortunately SPP is in another league compared to this rather run down guest house. You must also be aware that the hotel sits a little way outside St. Peter port and it is far from an easy walk(although they do provide a shuttle bus). The breakfast was of a good standard but dirty cups puts me off. I would say that the view over castle Cornet was spectacular if the windows had been clean enough to enjoy it. The one upside is that the Copenhagen bar and grill is very good and will be reviewed separately.

    « Excellent stay. »

Difficult to fault anything! The room (No 27) was excellent, and the balcony with a view out to sea was an unexpected bonus. Special mention must go to all the restaurant staff, from management to the trainees, all of whom were exceptional in their duties and professionalism. Food was excellent, too! Would highly recommend it.

    « First class hotel »

Having visited many UK hotels over the years, I can honestly say that this the best experience ever. The facilities, service surroundings and food were all better than expected. The staff were excellent in an unobtrusive way and everything in the room worked which is a rare occurrence. The attention to detail by the staff in all aspects was welcome. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

« Lovely hotel - first class in every way. »

Just back from 5 nights at this wonderful hotel. The view is stunning, although there is rather a steep hill up to it. Rooms are modern, clean and cosy. We were breakfast only and this was also perfect. Everything cooked fresh to order and large variety of cereals, meats, bread etc. We didn't have any evening meals in the hotel but the restaurant was always very busy with locals - a good sign! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent hotel and would go again.

    « Great holiday hotel »

Just returned from a weeks holiday in Guernsey. The hotel was great - very clean and nice decor. Staff were all very efficient and very friendly - especially in the restaurant. Lovely views of the sea from the restaurant. Food was excellent and nicely presented. We booked a holiday package where we got evening meals for half price. We also had the option to eat at either of the sister hotels whilst we were there, but we enjoyed the meals so much that we didn't bother to try anywhere else. Rooms were a good size with very large beds and plenty of storage space. Only down side is that the hotel is near the top of a hill above St Peter Port, but they do lay on a courtesy bus at certain times.

« Amazing hotel with amazing views! »

We have just returned from a 1 week stay at this hotel and cannot praise it enough! From the very comfortable spacious bedrooms to the the fantastic food in the hotels 2 restaurants, if you want a relaxing stay in a beautiful location this hotel is for you. All the staff make you feel very welcome but special mention goes to DIana, Ivan and Jose in the Copenhagen, always service with a smile and no request is too much trouble. Bobbys complementary island tour is excellent, very informative and enjoyable. Gennaro, the hotel manager, is always in attendance making sure his guests are happy. We will definitely return to this hotel.

    « A really good hotel »

We have just returned from 6 great nights at the Havelet. We had a good quiet room, with large super king comfortable bed, in a small extension to the main mansion. The staff and management were exceptionally attentive and helpful. My only one small criticism is that some of the staff were fairly new and their understanding of English and their job occasionally had it's limitations. Although we only booked B&B, we choose to eat at the hotel as the food was of good quality and value. The hotel is in a quiet location, on a very steep hill overlooking the sea front and town, which gave it excellent views. They have a limited free shuttle service to the town, otherwise you need to be fit or rely on taxi's. They also offer free tours round the Guernsey twice a week, but you need to book in advance as we found the one while we were there was full. They also had a good pool and leisure area. We would have no doubts about staying there again or recommending it to anyone.

    « Perfection »

The ultimate in comfort, good food and excellent service, we felt very welcome throughout out stay. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were all very efficient without being intrusive. The Hotel had a quiet elegance about it, and it was obvious the Manager and all his team really cared that you were having a good stay.

    « Favourite new hotel. »

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights recently. It's a fabulous hotel and we're thinking of going back again later in the year. Apart from the hotel itself, what impressed me most were the staff. Every staff member we met went over and beyond our expectations. Thank you all very much for a wonderful stay.

    « Brilliant Hotel »

Another 7 day holiday at the De Havelet and very satisfied. Food, service, staff, room and leisure facilities all excellent. Food in the new restaurant was very very good although I missed the option of being able to just get a simple bar meal or sandwich and a relaxing bar just for a drink.

« Great place to stay and the food is fabulous »

We stayed at Hotel De Havelet in March 2016. We booked it due to the positive reports on Trip Advisor. We weren't disappointed. The staff are attentive and extremely friendly and as it's a family run hotel (although you wouldn't believe it) there is great attention to detail. There really is no need to dine outside of the hotel as the hotel restaurant is excellent. I had steak cooked at my table to order. The spa, swimming pool sauna etc is well maintained and very peaceful. This hotel is great for a short break away from everything. If all you want to do is chill then this is the place to do it.

    « Quite Superb! »

This may be a three star hotel but it's 5 star in many respects. From the initial welcome to leaving the whole experience is excellent. The waiting staff both at breakfast & on the 2 occasions when we had dinner in the hotel are superb, efficient & friendly. Breakfast is a vast choice of hot & cold food, more than enough for the day ahead. The rooms are very good, not massive, but very comfortable. There's a very steep hill from the town up to the hotel, we managed it 80% of the time but use the hotel mini bus down to town in the day & get a taxi at night, & that will help! The food in the Wellington Boot was very good & I have reviewed that separately. We certainly plan to return to a lovely island & lovely hotel.

« Great place to stay »

Location is perfect, within walking distance to city center. Pool, and saunas are available early and late. We loved bed and pillows. Reception is friendly and ready to help French visitors with electric plug adapters, or reservation to Victor Hugo house. Wifi works from room too!

« A very enjoyable stay at an excellent hotel »

Great hotel, excellent food with very helpful and friendly staff. The fact that its restaurant is heavily frequented by the locals says it all. A resident's bar within the hotel itself would be a useful addition though as, because of its popularity, the separate restaurant / bar complex was very busy in an evening and hence a quiet drink at the bar was almost an impossibility. Its also a bit of a hike back up from town but the views compensate for that. Will definitely stay again when we next visit Guernsey.

    « De Havelet Hotel »

consistent service and comfort standards plus the added bonus of a lovely indoor pool make this the hotel of choice for all my visits to Guernsey on business. The newly refurbished bar area makes the whole experience even more appealing.

« Love this place it just keeps getting better »

We regularly stay here. The Hotel feels like a home from home - the staff are all friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a good choice of quality food (we usually go half board because of this) and the new Bistro / Bar is modern and well worth a visit. We were delighted to find the restaurant has put an old favourite back on the menu - steak Diane - yummmmmm......

    « usual standatd »

we have been back to this hotel two years on the trot . since our friends left guernsey . great service as normal . the new restaurant and bar area is an added bonus The hill is still there ! but small price to pay for a great venue

    « Lovely People »

Fantastic stay at this hotel. Very polite, welcoming and courteous staff. Manager took the time to introduce himself. Nothing was too much to ask. Hotel itself is in a very nice setting. Restaurant food and service was excellent, value for money was excellent. Will not hesitate in visiting again.

« Commemorating Liberation Day, while visiting in pre-war cars »

Being part of The Bean Car Club's recent tour to this lovely island, meant we discovered this lovely hotel. All the members of our party enjoyed the stay in the De Havelet, comfortable ensuite rooms, excellent dining, a lovely spa and attentive friendly and helpful staff what more could we ask. They went out of their way to arrange functions and support our group activities during our happy stay.

« Great hotel with popular restaurant »

Enjoyed a very good stay at the de Havelet. The hotel staff were all excellent: welcoming and helpful whether preparing the rooms or serving delicious meals. The hotel is in a commanding position for views of the harbour and beyond from the terrace or public rooms, although our bedroom did not have a seaview but was extremely comfortable and well appointed. Meals are served in the hotel restaurant on the first floor of the annex, but there is also a very popular restaurant and bar on the ground floor of the annex, and although the annex is a separate building it is linked by a tunnel from the hotel, so it is easy to avoid any bad weather.

    « Lovely week away. »

If you going to Guernsey you must stay here. With stunning views at breakfast, fabulous food, spotless rooms and excellent service from all of the staff, there are very few improvements that need to be made. This turned out to be an excellent choice and very worthy of the number one rating on the island.

    « Excellent Customer Service »

Having stayed here 8 years ago, the hotel is almost unrecognisable! The new look is much better and worthy of 4 star rating! The staff were outstanding and couldn't have been more polite/helpful. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. The views across the bay are postcard worthy. I really can't recommend this hotel enough!

    « A very well run hotel »

After spending half an hour trying to find the hotel due to unclear directions from ma thrid party, it was good to arrive and have a very efficient registration. The hotel is well equipped, clean and well run. The rooms are what is expected from Best Western and ideally suited to a short holiday break. Problems with the radiator thermostatic valve were dealt with efficiently and effectively. The food and service is good if at times, a little over-attentive (which can't be bad!) and the prices about as expected. We would stay here again but the climb from the seafront is a little daunting...

« Francis and Isabelle McCrea »

What a most beautiful place to visit, and if you want to be made to feel very special, this is the place to stay when visiting Guernsey Island. The general manager takes a vested and personal interest in ensuring your stay is the best it can be. The chef was commendable, and the bar and restaurant staff were very attentive. Thank you for making our stay with you a memorable and enjoyable one!!

« Excellent vintage Car base »

The Bean Car Club based themselves here for a 5 night break around the 2016 Liberation weekend. The parking was good for our vintage cars and the rooms very comfortable. The view from the Wellington Boot restaurant was spectacular with good food and excellent service. The hotel runs a courtesy bus down to the town from the Hotel and whilst we were on a half board tariff there was an exchange eating plan available with the two other sister hotels in St Peters port (Moores Central and Les Rocquettes). The heated pool and Jacuzzi was most welcome each evening. The walk into town took about 15 minutes and a bit longer coming back up the hill.

« Another Best Western gem. »

The hotel is in a great location, overlooking the Fort in St Peter Port, great for watching the Liberation fireworks. The staff are extremely customer-focussed - there aren't any hotels that I have stayed in where the manager and his assistant visit every table at dinner to check everything is OK. The room was extremely comfortable, quiet, and at the back of the hotel.

« First trip to Guernsey »

An excellent two nights in very well appointed hotel with excellent staff, nice lounge and restaurant with first class food. Room was very comfortable with private balcony overlooking internal courtyard and close to amenities.

    « Another Visit »

Another visit here to find that nothing has changed in the Hotel but a big change at the former Saddlebar area. Downstairs here there is just the one area with new bar and restaurant.Very smart (Copenhagen bar and grill) Also there is now a large covered patio area by the entrance to the Hotel. The rooms were renovated a little while ago so remain the same as does the main reception area and swimming pool. All the staff are as friendly and welcoming, even the new ones we had not met before. A mention must be made of Bobby the minibus driver who takes you up/down the hill if you wish and does the interesting free Island tour.

    « Frequent visitors. »

We visit Guernsey regularly and stay at the Hotel De Havelet each time we visit. The rooms are comfortable and exceptionally well serviced. Staff are helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Clearly, all work as part of a team. The hotel has amazing views over the harbour and Castle Cornet. Obviously the downside is the hill to get up to see these views! However, taxis are relatively cheap if no car and the legs not up to it! Facilities are first class, lovely clean pool area. A recently refurbished bar area is very light with views and a lovely outside eating area both on the terrace and the new outside seating area at the front. Food remains first class in both the new bistro and the Wellington. The new bar menu provides variety but it does not provide a simple sandwich of any kind. Notably, the traditional Guernsey crab sandwich. ?Not sure re the crab on avocado and toast. However, Mohammed continues to excel in the Wellington and I recommend the scallops in the bistro. We look forward to returning again in the summer.

« We will be back »

My wife and I have just returned from a four night stay at this excellent hotel. The location is good and the staff most friendly and helpful. Our room was very nice and kept clean. Overall a great stay and we will certainly return on our next visit to Guernsey.

« Very comfortable hotel with lovely decor, and a good location »

The bedroom & bathroom was beautifully prepared, so clean and polished. Very comfortable 6' double bed. The staff throughout the hotel are charming and helpful. The Wellington restaurant is lovely. The breakfast with a view over St Peter Port Harbour. Quality food with numerous choices for breakfast. The dinner in the evening was delicious. Shame we were charged £7 for a bottle of sparkling water. Lovely indoor swimming pool.

    « Excellent Again! »

We have been visiting the hotel annually for about 6 or 7 years and every stay has been excellent with standards remaining high. Gennaro, Sandis and their staff have a winning formula - they work as a team to ensure that all guests enjoy their stay and nothing is too much trouble for them. Everyone is so friendly and it feels like coming home when you arrive at the hotel. The food in the Wellington Boot restaurant could not be improved upon, both at breakfast and in the evening. This year, all guests dine for one evening in the new Copenhagen restaurant, which has a more bistro/casual feel and has been beautifully furnished. Gennaro's brother and his team provided excellent food which was well presented and served. You will not find a better hotel in Guernsey. We look forward to our next visit.

    « Second visit. »

We have just returned from our second visit to the De Havelet and it was even better than the first, which we did not think possible. The whole hotel is very well presented, comfortable and very clean. We stayed in room 20 and were very impressed with how clean and comfortable it was. It was that clean that we think it may have just been refurbished. The wine, grapes and fudge were a very nice touch and all were very much appreciated. Another nice touch was the coffee machine that was in the room. We were also supplied with slippers and a dressing gown. The dressing gown was very handy for going to the swimming pool. We ate both in the Wellington Restaurant and The Copenhagen and the food in both was very well presented and very tasty. The sirloin steak in the Wellington was again superb. I may well be back next year for another steak meal. Both the Wellington and the Copenhagen are very popular with locals, which is always a good sign. They both get very busy so it' is best to book in advance. We used the swimming pool and 2 occasions and again it was a clean area. On both occasions there were not too many people using the facilities. All of the guys who work there are very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to make our visit a very good visit. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Would we recommend this hotel to friends and family ? yes. Would we stay there again ? a very big yes

    « Exceptional Service »

Everyone at the hotel was so helpful and friendly. The new cosmopolitan bar and restaurant was fabulous. Breakfast superb with lots of selections to suit your taste and hunger. Walking distance in to the port. Everything I needed.

    « Surprise trip »

Booked a surprise trip for my wife's birthday. Staff and management were faultless. Thanks to ' vet' at reception for arranging surprise gifts in room on arrival. Nothing was to much trouble from the cleaning staff up to senior management in the hotel and restaurant .Would recommend this hotel without hesitation. We felt that the cost was excellent value for such high standards and will be visiting again in the future.

    « A Great Stay »

Staff could not have been more helpful. Quality of food, room and service all excellent. Our trip was made even more memorable when a free bottle of wine appeared at the dinner table as the staff had learned it was my birthday. A lovely thought. Thank you.

« Cannot praise this hotel more highly »

Excellent stay. Worthy of being the Trip Advisor Guernsey leader. Staff friendly and helpful. Food good. Refurbished bar now open. Front room, recently refurbished, excellent. It's not often that I eulogise about a hotel, but this one was special.

« Wonderful views across to Castle Cornet »

Great hotel, excellent location and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great things to come, refurbished bar and restaurant, unable to enjoy it on this occasion, work still in progress, looking forward to enjoying all on our return.

    « Lovely Holiday »

Spent a week here at the end of March. Room - very comfortable, plenty of tea, coffee, chocolates and biscuits. Large flat screen television and a radio. Spacious comfortable bed with quality bed linen. Trouser press, iron and ironing board. Free wifi. Fridge to put your own food and drinks in. Bathroom - Spotlessly clean with cabinet to put toiletries in. Shower over bath. Good quality towels. We hired 2 dressing gowns and slippers for the week (£5.00 each) as we wanted to use the pool facilities. Dining - Excellent quality food, varied menu and attentive staff. We will definitely be returning.

    « Very Pleasant Easter »

First Class ! The hotel is in a really nice location, close enough to town to walk to the centre in under 10 minutes (even for oldies like us), and if you can't do that there is a complimentary bus. Far enough in the outskirts to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this lovely place. Very attentive but not "over the top" service in the restuarant, with excellent quality of food and a menu which changes daily offering an excellent range of choices. Lovely rooms and a very nice swimming pool. Very helpful and attentive management and Reception staff. As someone who has stayed in many hotels over many years of traveling, I recognise and rate this hotel very highly.

    « Great Views »

Have stayed at De Havelet many times over the past 12 Years and always good to come back, Rooms are very Comfortable and there are some great views from the Hotel . Overall services Provided are very good but Wi-Fi is very slow.

    « ok »

This hotel has great reviews but to me it seemed not that better than a Premier Inn... i went in late march 2016 and i was offered a room that had no view, little natural light and a squeaky ceiling from the occupants above. i just thought that like independent hotels i would have been given a better room during their low season, to give me a taste of what it could be liked. Instead i got what i paid for... the staff by the way are very attentive and good at their job, but there seems to be a feeling that they are grander than they are.... the standard of the restaurant food was acceptable but not exceptional, bread with your starters for example was given one slice at a time... once you had finished one they were back over to offer you another.. unnecessary in my book.... the major question is would i stay here again??.. the answer is no.... you get the bare minimum, too much like every other Best Western... maybe i have been spoilt by independents that are different and more personal.... having said all that, teh staff are great and perform well given the constraints that they work under.

« Best food. Best service. »

It's just like the UK was 25 years ago. Impeccable service. Fantastic high quality food. Wonderfully views. The most perfect break we have had for many years. Every thing you could ever wish for. Even a free island tour.

    « Excellent hotel »

This hotel was absolutely fantastic. The staff were so polite and always ready to help in any way. They made our stay a wonderful experience and we would certainly go back again. The food was delicious. There were some alterations being done to the bar during our stay but they had little impact.

    « noise »

great hotel 1st class room wanted to stay 3 extra night but the noise from 7am to 7pm seven days a week from building works was so bad we had to go asked staff about it no help asked builders to stop no reply

« Interesting place and building, friendly staff »

At the top of a steep hill, with amazing views, the hotel is an older building with an interesting history. The staff were very friendly and because it was quiet we got upgraded to a superior room. There were renovations being carried out and the plans look lovely. Pleasant stay, good value and would go back. But it is a steep slope to walk up to from the port, so a taxi or be prepared.

    « Wonderful short break »

First visit to Guernsey , this hotel is really nice, it was spotless and welcoming as were the staff who did everything to make our stay special. We stayed in room 28 which had view over harbour and was roomy with nice extras , bathroom more than ample and very clean. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was freshly cooked to order, dinner was lovely with plenty of choices again served hot and freshly cooked . Although situated on a hill with lovely views it's a steep walk back , but if you stop for a rest it's ok. Even though work was being done on restaurant we were not disturbed . This a lovely hotel with exceptional staff and we will definitely stay again

« Heavenly Havelet part deux »

Having stayed at the Havelet in October last year, and having had a fabulous experience we decided to return this month. Absolutely everything was as good as last year. All the staff were extremely helpful and seemed genuinely happy to help. The food really was first class, a 4* experience in a 3* hotel; please see the photos. There is a swimming pool and jacuzzi at the hotel which we used this time which was well maintained and clean Our room was spectacular, again please see the photos. There was some improvement activity going on and we were warned of it, but this work did not affect the holiday. One point to remember is it is advisable to have a hire car as the hotel is up a steep hill; there is plenty of free parking and a wonderful view from the restaurant. Thank you for an enjoyable stay; we will return; you deserve your 5*

    « Exceeding expectations »

The highlight of the Hotel de Havelet is the friendly and attentive service offered by all the staff. Located on the edge of St Peter Port the hotel is within easy walking distance of the town centre and offers superb views over Castle Cornet and Herm. The hotel is housed in a period building with separate dining facilities. It has modern Ieisure facilities including a heated pool and spa. The bedrooms are very comfortable and a good size with a nice seating area. They have complimentary tea and coffee facilities, an iron and ironing board, a safe and plenty of storage space. The quality of the bed, bathrobes and toiletries is definitely 5 star. We sampled breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea during our stay and all were of a consistently good standard. Breakfasts were particularly good with the hot options being cooked freshly to order from an extensive menu. Key to making our stay so enjoyable, however, was the friendliness of all the staff we met. They were always attentive and quick to respond to any request for assistance. All in all this is an hotel which far out-performs its 3 star rating.

    « Lovely Hotel »

We really enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. The hotel is beautifully decorated and maintained. There is a lovely view of the harbour and castle. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our room was comfortable and provided us with everything we needed. One of the two restaurants was being renovated but this did not spoil our stay as the remaining restaurant served excellent and delicious food. We would love to go back to this hotel again and we will recommend it to others.

    « Great stay »

Stayed last night and will definitely return. Rooms might not be as "designer" some hotels on the island, however the place is very clean and you are very well looked after. Dinner was superb and the breakfast also excellent. I think this is probably the best hotel food I have had in Guernsey. I would recommend you try it!

    « An excellent experience »

A very good hotel for our stay. Lovely position above the harbour. Great service, very comfortable room with a great bed and wonderful food. All members of staff extremely helpful and attentive .We would be happy to return for a stay in the future. Work was going on , as we had been told, but managed well.

« It's attention to detail that counts. »

The star rating of a hotel will inform you of the facilities, fixtures and fittings of the place. What it cannot do is tell you about the atmosphere and approach of the staff. Like most hotels, they are using their quiet time of year to do some refurbishment, in this case major work to bar and restaurant. Not only was this mentioned on the hotel website and the courtesy email sent before our visit, about a week before arrival came a phone call from the assistant manager informing us that as part of the building work there would be a planned power cut on one day of our visit for essential work. Not only did he inform us, he also told us of the options should the work not going to plan and taking longer than expected. In the event, the work was completed on time, but it was good to know that if there had been a problem, all bases were covered. Another example is that my wife has some special dietary requirements. It was part of the evening's entertainment to see what new and imaginative ways the chefs would deal with this. Always good. It may be thought that as regular visitors to the hotel in some way we were getting special treatment. Not so. It is clear from watching the way staff interact with guests, whether it be their first visit or the latest of several, we all get the same treatment and all are made to feel special.

    « always a good friendly experience »

Once again good friendly staff the manager always seems to make an appearance and never fails to recognise you from the year before, and that's what helps to make this hotel special . I look forward to when their current building (restaurant conversion) works have finished

    « Good hotel »

This was our first visit to this hotel and we were very impressed. The room was spotless and recently refurbished, the staff very friendly & attentive and the restaurant food excellent. Would highly recommend

    « Fabulous Hotel »

Just back from a couple of nights on business in Guernsey and stayed here. The hotel is extremely well kept. In fact the restaurant / pub was undergoing major refurbishment (that we were informed of when making the booking) and food and drink needs were taken care of in the upstairs restaurant. This wasn't a problem as it had a fabulous view over the harbour. The rooms were spacious, modern and had nice touches, particularly the evening turndown service. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant. The Spanish restaurant manager was particularly professional. We ate in the hotel both nights. The a'la Carte menu had plenty of choice, as did the "Special set menu" It's nice to see plenty of locals in the bar too, enjoying their early evening drink. Breakfast was excellent. No dried out buffet slop which is so often the case these days. Breakfast was cooked to order. Top notch! Superb indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna topped off this amazing visit. The only thing that lets it down is that it's up a very steep hill and quite a long walk from the centre of town. You are knackered if you walk it. However, that's nothing to do with the hotel. Fabulous place. Will certainly be back if my travels take me to Guernsey again. Highly recommend it.

« Poor value with limited menus and large school party joining our Romantic Weekend »

Previous experience of breaks had been good at this hotel, but this one was pretty awful. Alterations to the downstairs grill room, and presumably the kitchen severely limited the menu. No a la carte, and same table d'hote menu night after night. Food regularly served cold, including cooked breakfast. Hotel had also booked a school party of over 24 with inevitable noise of slammed doors etc until late, at least on the first night. Hardly the Romantic Break we had booked, not helped by the Manager who told us the school party was a late booking, though ours was only confirmed a few days earlier.

    « New Year Stay »

We've stayed at the hotel several times now and its been faultless every time. Amazing views of St. Peters Port from this historic hotel. The staff are lovely, and we always feel at welcome and at home here. It really is a home from home. We most recently stayed over New Year with family friends. We stayed half board. The food was brilliant, and I think has certainly improved over the years with a more modern approach to cuisine. Lovely celebrations on New Years Eve, perfect for our group with youngsters and older folk alike. Cannot recommend this place more.

    « Hotel De Havelet January 2016 »

My recent stay at Hotel De Havelet in Guernsey was excellent. The hotel was amazing and the room was very comfortable. The staff were very attentive and although I am a vegetarian I was given numerous options. I would definitely recommend the food and the ambience and I would also recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family and any would be guests.

    « Family reunion »

We recently had a few days in Guernsey, my husband and I, from Australia, a cousin from Uk, and her husband, and a cousin from Canada. Our three mothers are from Guernsey and we wanted to see their birthplace. I have been twice before and stayed elsewhere but chose the De Havelet for its views from the restaurant. Unfortunately due to renovations starting the day we arrived I was told two weeks before that it would be closed for our stay which was very disappointing. They told us we could be bussed to one of their sister hotels for evening meals but breakfast would be in the usual room, which wasn't ideal for us., However when we arrived, we were very pleasantly surprised to see them in the midst of changing a small lounge room to a bar, the breakfast room also became a dining room, for the most amazing three course meal, and we had all been upgraded to newly refurbished rooms across the top floor front of the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful, and the manager popped in every morning and evening to see how we were. There were very few other people staying and we felt as though we were Royalty. The hotel was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, our rooms were huge and and our evenings in the bar reviewing the days outings are some of my best memories, the staff joined in our conversations and enjoyed laughing at some of our ridiculous photos. It truly was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone. I will return to Guernsey one day, and I will definitely return to the De Havelet.

    « Nice »

Nice hotel. Clean. Rooms nice, clean, quite spacious. Staff very good. Always ready to help and always asking if you need anything. I only had 2 issue's. Firstly, the VERY steep hill to the hotel. Not the worst thing in the world but an older person would really struggle and left me very breathless. When I booked the hotel I never saw it mentioned anywhere. My fault you could say for not reading other reviews. Secondly the restaurant. The separate building which is where breakfast and dinner is served is in the middle of a refurbishment. It happens, and understandably is happening in Jan/ Feb, out of season, but it never said it when I booked! People should be told about these things. Apart from that, a nice stay.

    « Birthday Dinner »

7 persons celebrated my 80th birthday. I had always visited this restaurant whenever I visited Guernsey. I have such fond memories, and was so happy to see the personal touch is still there. The food is first class, and the decor still has a touch of the original history.

    « Beyond Expectations »

Having enjoyed some wonderful New Year's Eve celebrations at a local hotel in Jersey for the last 10 years,we decided to take a gamble for 2015 and try somewhere different. We chose the 3 night New Year package at the De Havelet (the hotel had been recommended to us by some friends who lived in Guernsey) and we hoped that our gamble would pay off. We were not disappointed. The hotel was amazing, the room was fantastic in every detail, the food was excellent and the staff made us feel so welcome throughout our stay. The "meet and greet" drinks and canapés on the first night were a great "ice breaker" and the New Year's Eve celebrations were superb at every level. Even the music for dancing after dinner was not over loud and we were sat about 4ft from one of the speakers. It was clear that many of the guests were regulars there and we certainly made some lovely friends during our stay. The only disappointment ( not the hotel's fault) was that the Herm trip for New Year's day was cancelled due to horrendous sea conditions but as regular visitors to Herm during the summer, we know the island well anyway. We are raving about this hotel to all our friends here in Jersey and recommending they stay there, should they be going over to Guernsey. We hope to do the same trip again at the end of 2016 although we have promised the staff that when we are on holiday in Herm, we will come back over the Guernsey on one of the days and call at the De Havelet, not just for lunch but to say hello to all the wonderful staff there.

    « Special Christmas Break »

After a gap of two years,my wife and i returned to De Havelet for a nine night Christmas holiday. We were delighted with the whole experience, the high standard of quality & service is a credit to the whole team. We chose a superior room which was very clean & well appointed ,also with xmas gifts & Prosecco which was well received.Dining, both for breakfast & dinner was a delight, good choice, well presented with good service & reflects a high level of cuisine. The festive fayre met all expectations, making our Christmas that little bit special. The entertainment features were well thought out,the Boxing day trip to Herm & Island tour by bus standing out for us.The snack lunches & mulled wine were very welcome. The general manager,Gennaro Festivo has a highly motivated team, who are well mannered & efficient ,always doing that bit extra making our stay memorable.Whilst all staff provided good service,Sandis,Attilla,Kati & Diana(in the bar) are of special note. This hotel.location, cuisine & service ticked "all the boxes" for us, and have booked for Christmas 2016. .

    « Excellent stay »

We had the opportunity to stay at this hotel and what a wonderful experience, truly nothing was too much trouble & we shall be returning soon. The restaurants and staff throughout the hotel exceeded our expectations.

« The Best Service Ever at The Havelet »

This Hotel is of High Quality The Management and Staff are highly trained and give a brilliant service The Accomodation is superb with comfortable beds and pillows to give one a good sleep. So clean and tidy There is a swimming pool and all facilities to keep one healthy

    « A perfect stay »

All I can say is that this was a great place to stay, the hotel and staff were brilliant and the location to St Peter port is perfect. I will gladly rate this at 100 out of 100. you wont be disappointed.

    « Wonderful! »

I live in Alderney and visit Guernsey regularly. I have stayed in many hotels on the island and this is by far the best for friendly staff, comfortable clean rooms, good food (particularly for veggies) and a superb indoor pool/jacuzzi/sauna. Really good value, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Guernsey.

    « Very Good Hotel »

Have stayed here many times over the last 10 years and the stay is always enjoyable. Always look forward to visiting the De Havelet. Good location at top of hill with good views, the bar and restaurant are popular with both guests and locals. Looking forward to returning soon.

    « Anniversary break »

The location was fine for us but is up a hill which in turn provides amazing views. Our room was beautiful with chilled wine and various treats on arrival. The shower was brilliant. Our room also had private access from outside. The staff were friendly, efficient, polite and eager to do anything to help. The restaurant again had amazing views and breakfast was cooked to order which we found much better than a buffet. The only disappointment was our evening meal in the bar. It was poor but our complaint was dealt with immediately and fairly. We would certainly stay again

    « A long weekend getaway. »

We booked Hotel de Havelet due to its tripadisor rating and were not at all disappointed. Located in a hill over looking the bay of St Peters Port. Our room had been recently refurbished and was stylish and contemporary. The large ensuite was stocked with plenty of towels and complimentary products. The room was large with a good size bed which was very comfortable. The hotel offers an indoor swimming pool with steam room, sauna and a jacuzzi. All areas of the hotel are very clean and well maintained. Although we had a hire car for 3 days we parked it in the hotel car park on Friday upon arrival and didn't use it all weekend. The distance from the main areas of St Peters Port does mean that you get out and see some of the lovely buildings in the area. Thank you Hotel de Havelet we had a lovely stay.

« The photos make this hotel look more upscale than it actually is, but it's still nice... »

The photos make this hotel look more upscale than it actually is, but it's still nice. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean but the decor is a little basic and plain vanilla. They do not provide a free airport shuttle but they will arrange a taxi for you if you contact them in advance. There is a shuttle into town that goes at certain times. Not frequently in October. The location is a little out of the way, up on a hill. This is good because it's out of the bustle of St. Peter Port in a charming neighborhood and there's a view of the port and Castle Cornet. However, when you are tired, that 5 minute walk uphill is a bit of a chore. If you are in good shape it's not very hard but if you're not... The restaurant connected with the hotel is convenient with good food, moderate prices and casual dress.

« Lovely hotel run very efficiently »

I stayed for a week in a huge room with a balcony and sea view. I have not found many hotels willing to accommodate a single traveller in a superior double room at a reasonable rate. All of the staff without exception were friendly and attentive at all times. The food in the Wellington Boot restaurant was varied and plentiful. I had a lovely relaxing week and am looking forward to returning in the future.

« A charming hotel with fantastic views and great food too. »

I stayed here last week and was really impressed with the friendly staff, character of the decor and also the vast choice of food options. However what really impressed me was when when of the locals told me how the manager had taken a group of them out bowling for the day and treated them to a wonderful meal afterwards. How nice is that ! I doubt that would ever happen here in the UK. I also managed to get my key stuck in the lock and woke him up in the early hours and he was really good about it. This hotel is good for solo travellers, businesses and thirty something's plus. P.s don't go there if you are on a diet as when you see the menu you won't wont to order a salad.

    « Very Nice Stay »

We stayed here for two nights. It's a lovely hotel. Great room and nice stay. We took advantage of the spa area for an enjoyable morning of relaxation. When walking to St. Peter Port center, we chose to walk up to Les Vardes and turn right. It is a gradual decline and pleasant views. We took the same walk back as well as there are a few nice pubs along the way (Dorset Arms as well as The Cock and Bull). A great convenience to us was the use of the other BW Moores checked luggage. We checked out of De Havelet, took the shuttle to Moores, left our luggage there and were free to enjoy the town until it was time to catch our ferry. The shuttle driver actually suggested that we do that, which was greatly appreciated.

« The standard is still going up! »

This is our third stay in the hotel over a period of time and the standard of the staff, accommodation and food is getting better each visit. We stayed in a luxury room overlooking the sea and St Peter Port harbour and the level of comfort was excellent. Every member of staff we met was pleasant, courteous and efficient. The Wellington Boot restaurant and the Grill Room are undergoing a major refurbishment in January but the service, quality and variety of food was also excellent and made even more value for money because of the Tennerfest promotion that goes on on Guernsey in October / November. We will be back!

« Another great stay at Hotel De Havelet »

We worked out that we've been coming here for 30+ years now and yet again the hotel continues to excel on our latest visit. Whilst everything is really good, what makes the difference is the staff. Gennaro leads from the front and Sandis has become Gennaro II - making themselves visible and available and showing a genuine interest in the guests and with good memories for the day to day and important little things which make a difference. Attila has grown into his restaurant manager role really well and handled a little "incident" with great tact, care and professionalism. Luca (the handsome Grill manager as he asked us to say!) once again is a cornerstone of the hotel and one of the reasons we keep coming back. Whilst always friendly and chatty, he is perfect for knowing when to be there and when not (not an easy skill) and gets the customer/manager relationship just right. When he overheard a potential problem with an awkward customer, he immediately became involved, solved the problem with the difficult customer (who couldn't understand the concept of a 'buffet' and complained he wasn't being served!) and made sure everyone was happy. Could go on extolling the virtues of this hotel but, selfishly, don't want it to become TOO popular and the comments might lead to higher prices!! Mr & Mrs W

« Lived up to excellent reputation »

We selected this hotel from the great trip advisor reviews we had read and found the hotel to be as good as described. Attention to detail and wonderful service by the staff, combined with good food, clean comfortable room in a beautiful place made our stay very memorable. Hotel manager Gennaro Festivo led his excellent team by example, giving the hotel a lovely family feel but with a sense of style and sophistication. Highly recommended.

« One-week visit to Guernsey, staying at this hotel »

Particularly friendly, helpful staff; magnificent view from this hotel situated above the town, harbour and Castle Cornet; fine swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, complimentary minibus access to St Peter Port; well worth small surcharge for 'superior room'.

    « Autumn break »

Just had a thoroughly enjoyable 5 night stay. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast and Evening meals. Swimming pool etc were a bonus in a hotel of this size. Would happily return for another visit.

    « Return visit »

Another excellent stay at the Hotel de Havelet. Staff are very attentive and will do anything they can to improve your stay. My wife had a dreadful first night's sleep due to an unsupportive mattress. On mentioning this to reception the next day the mattress was changed and sleep was good thereafter. One wonders how many hotels would do this. We used the swimming pool regularly, and enjoyed the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. The cleanliness of the hotel in both the public and private areas was superb.

« Fantastic service, lovely hotel »

Anyone thinking of opening a hotel, or any hotel with poor reviews should stay here to see how it should be done. The service is excellent and the hotel lovely and clean - a real find and I can't wait to return. The rooms were lovely, the food divine and the pool area was gorgeous. Thank you for such a lovely stay.

    « Oasis of surprise »

We had a choice of 2 Best Western hotels in St Peter Port and based on reviews our friends booked the Hotel De Havelet for our annual couples Tennerfest break in early October. Although not as centrally located as the other Hotel, the De Havelet is just a short 10/15 stroll down a fairly steep incline to the town. Buses are available during the day for your convenience if you don't fancy the walk. The hotel is officially rated as 3star but overall my experience warranted a higher rating. Rooms were well appointed and spotless with comfortable beds and a good size bathroom. A turn down bed service was a nice touch and the little chocolate left on the pillow was quickly devoured every night. The hotel also has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi which we used everyday after long walks along the coastal pathways. Again the facilities were spotless with towels and changing rooms available. Breakfast selection was impressively varied and presented better than most restaurants I've eaten at! Most impressive was the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. Clearly they take immense pride in their work which is obviously down to good local management and self motivation. Lots of awards adorn the walls and I for one can certainly see why. Well done Hotel De Havelet for a very pleasurable experience.

    « Customer is king »

Arranged an Autumn break at Hotel de Havelet for three couples for four night stay. Pre-booked dinner on first night to ensure we could relax on arrival. The staff in the restaurant were excellent - particularly the Head Waiter who was very professional and welcoming. The food was varied and of very high quality and presentation. Drinks were quite reasonable with a good selection. We spent each evening in the hotel as it would have been difficult to better the service etc. All our rooms had Queen sized beds and were very clean and comfortable with fruit, drinks and fudge on arrival. The indoor pool was perfect and a good size. Breakfast was very enjoyable with a large selection with freshly cooked mains. Views from the breakfast room towards the harbour were perfect. There was a 'first' for all of us at this hotel - the Manager personally introduced himself to all visitors to enquire if they were happy with the service etc. This was very welcome and was done on a daily basis whilst in the bar, restaurant or reception area. Should we return to Guernsey we would certainly return to this hotel despite its location on the hillside - the view makes it worth it and there is a hotel mini bus which can be used to get down to the main town and back again.

    « An excellent restaurant »

I have been coming to the Wellington Boot for 50 years and it never fails.beautiful restaurant, stunning views.Delicious food and excellent service at a very reasonable price. Nothing was too much trouble for the waiting staff and it was good that the Head waiter took the trouble to speak to each dining table individually..Ialways judge a meal by the vegetables and they were cooked to perfection

    « Heavenly Havelet »

We stayed for four nights. Room had a huge king size plus bed with good shower and bath and a nice goody box. Restaurent had a fabulous view and breakfast was out of this world but do ask for more than one rasher of bacon if you want more. Superb service, pleasant and helpful staff and 5* food. We will return. Thanks to you all.

« Excellent Waiter in Restaurant »

We did not stay in this hotel but visited the restaurant during our holiday in Guernsey. We had an excellent dinner as the food was fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The best part of the dinner was our waiter, Luca. He made helpful suggestions, was attentive, had a good sense of humor, and made our dining experience a real treat. He pampered us and made us feel as if we were his only guests. We've never experienced such a wonderful waiter before in all our travels. Kudos to Luca!

    « Great value tennerfest »

Fabulous views and lovely surroundings, the food for a tennerfest menu was excellent, great service (although at times seemed a little rushed they didn't mind you asking for that extra 15 minutes or so), makes me want to go back any time, regardless of their being "a meal deal" on.

« First rate as usual »

As a former Guernsey resident I've had a long association with the hotel and had no hesitation in choosing it for on a recent 7 night break. My single room was comfortable with excellent facilities and I was made very welcome in the Saddle Bar when I dined alone. Due to the quality and value of the food, the bar and restaurants are firm favourites with local residents so guests get a flavour of Island life without leaving the premises. Andrea D

    « Lovely hotel »

We stayed at the De Havelet based on previous reviews and weren't disappointed. Our superior room looked freshly decorated to a high standard, although the old-fashioned decor wasn't quite to our taste. However, it was a good size, comfortable with a large, clean white bathroom. We also mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary and that evening, we were left a bottle of Prosseco in our room which was a really lovely touch. The only couple of minor negatives (hence 4 stars) were that breakfast was really nice & extensive, but quite slow: it seemed that everyone else around us got served before us and also there is a long large hill back up from town. However, there is a shuttle bus that runs to/from town but it isn't that frequent.

    « Overnight Stay. »

Stayed for one night with a friend on Thursday 1st October. Room Spotless. Comfortable beds. Free Wifi. Super Staff. Had a drink in the bar. Nice atmosphere. We didn't have time to use the pool or sauna but would definitely use these facilities when we stay again.

« Still just as good »

This is a superbly run hotel, with excellent staff, very good food and situated on a great island. The swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna are an added attraction. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Guernsey

« Excellant stay at De Havelet »

Lovely hotel ,close to harbour and main shopping area .the staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful .food in the restaurant and grill bar was 1st class both in flavour and presentation .Trainee Angel and his direct boss both attentive and happy to pass time of day but their attention to detail and service always came first .only downside is the hotel is up a very steep hill .

    « A Good "Wellie Boot" visit »

We are local on Guernsey and had an overnight stay at this hotel. I do not make a habit of doing reviews but this one most certainly deserves it. We could not fault it at all and the food in the upstairs restaurant was" fantastic". The place was run with regimental precision, very clean and all the staff very helpful indeed, Ivan especially. Great little pool with a spinner for drying your cossies! good steam room and sauna with a Jacuzzi to boot. Money very well spent and we will return.
