"Will not be coming back here, very poor hygiene"
hdecock, 16 Mai 2021

We booked a twin deluxe room for a 1-night stay. We included dinner at the hotel. The room seemed fine when we got there, spacious though definitely not very modern (Wi-Fi was so slow it seemed absent, and all commodities are very outdated). Due to COVID-rules our dinner was served in the room (which is fine), during which we found a hair in the first course (carpaccio). The staff apologized and promptly served us a replacement. Apart from the hair, the carpaccio was alright, but the main courses were absolutely subpar. The food looked and tasted like college cafeteria food (overcooked, very salty, and small portions to boot). After dinner there was a short but intense rain shower outside, after which it became apparent one of the rain drainage pipes outside our room had a leak and was dripping on the little cover over our window, which somehow made an incredibly loud noise. When we informed the staff that the leakage was so loud we would not be able to sleep through it (I realize this sounds dramatic, but it was really very loud) they first told us there was nothing they could do. So we asked to switch rooms, to which the staff then agreed. We settled into our new room, only to find more hairs - this time in the shower. It was obvious the bathroom had not been cleaned. After several minutes reception called to ask if the room was okay. When I mentioned it was quiet alright, but now we found hair in the shower, we were snippily informed that we got a room upgrade to a more expensive room, and no reaction was given to the hair in the bathroom. The receptionist simply hung up the phone. If I were to run into 1 of these things in any hotel (1 hair in food, leakage at room, hair in the shower) I would give them the benefit of the doubt, these things can happen. However all 3 in one night, and the rude attitude towards us when we very politely informed them of a valid complaint, means I can only say we definitely did not get our money's worth of service and can only recommend to book a different establishment. There are plenty of other hotels nearby, which no doubt serve better food.

"Teacher and table bins "
steyaertlouis, 30 Décembre 2018

The impressive entrance hall makes you think the best of if. An old lady standing behind a desk telling you to pay straight away a colder welcome couldn't have been possible..I had the feeling to walk into my first day of class.. Breakfast: Over cooked bacon Over cooked eggs No napkins on the tables No knifes to be seen No service Less sexy possible are the little toilet bins situated on the breakfast tables! Disgusting. But worse of all is again that same old lady sitting behind another desk. Telling you where or not to sit, watching every move you do and everything you eat.really bad! Breakfast closes at 10am. People are still eating and serving themSelves at the buffet at 9:56AM. They already started the clean up.its just a not done! Anyway the day hasn't started yet. Let's try to make it the best.

"Super stop over"
carrollastley, 03 Octobre 2017

This hotel is located close to Maastricht but still in a country location. The décor is excellent and the bedroom one of the best I have stayed in this year. The breakfast is very good but my compliments go to the evening meal, best described as delicious.

"not four stars, by far, but the breakfast does make up for some of it"
WorldTravelOne, 22 Août 2017

This hotel does not deserve its four stars, by far. Senior staff that could work a bit on its customer friendly aura. The wifi signal is weak and slow, at least in the room we stayed in and also at the internet corner. The rooms are not sound proofed enough. Dinner is only served in a relatively small window of opportunity (between 6pm and 8pm). Breakfast is served between 7.30am and 10 every day though (but not earlier on weekdays). Although the hotel markets itself as 'the highest hotel in the Netherlands', the main public rooms (and probably most rooms) do not have views that let you experience that height (no views of mountains or valleys). There are two very positive things that do stand out (and are 4 star quality): the breakfast selection/presentation and the friendliness of the junior breakfast staff. For that we would come back to Hotel Slenaken (and of course to see if performance on our worry points have improved).

"Nice location "
M1952CAstephenp, 22 Juillet 2017

Comfortable beds, spacious rooms with big bathroom. It was great to stay here except one thing: some night we forget our key in the room and the receptionist instead just write a new keycard(I know it's max 10 second or just let us in with a master key) for us started to pretending we have to sleep in the lobby or out under the sky he was so arrogant.

"Good size rooms. Excellent breakfast."
Courrieu, 29 Juin 2017

A 2 night stay. Good size and very clean room. Good beds. Excellent breakfast (by candlelight!) since the breakfast room was slightly dark due to overcast weather. Excellent location among the "Dutch Hills". Restaurant fairly pricey but plenty of other restaurants nearby in the village of Slenaken. Free and plentiful private parking.

"A very pleasant stay"
223ingridm, 28 Septembre 2016

Arrived very late in the night (we had a reservation) but were greeted in a very pleasant manner. The room was quite spacious, well laid out and clean. Bathroom not very large, but again well equipped and squeaky clean. Beds were very comfortable. Coffee and tea making equipment, minibar, free Wifi, not very many channels on TV - but who cares ;-) - comfy chair, all very nice. Breakfast next morning was also varied and plentiful. Staff were very friendly. Positioned in a very nice area, close to many points of interest. We would certainly go back there.

"Few days away to relax"
JuneBoncey, 21 Mai 2016

Room was great very big with an apart sitting area and mini fridge and yiou could turn the TV around on a swivel round board so you could look at TV while in bed The vieuws were breathtaking with rolling hills which we do not have in Holland only in this area and the weather was great 24 degrees and the food and service exellent

"Nice and quiet"
willemijn t, 18 Mai 2016

We liked this simple and comfortable hotel very much. The junior suite that we had booked was comfortable, the service nice and the food excellent. The hotel is lovely situated. The terrace gives you a beautiful view over the hills. You can rent a bike for the following day, which we did. The family who exploits the hotel are friendly people. This hotel is a good choice if you want to discover Zuid Limburg and like to come back on a quiet place and have your drink and a nice meal.

"Loved the experience!!"
Ananya D, 17 Mai 2016

Very good!! Was on a trip to primarily relax amidst the beautiful countryside. Loved the experience. View from hotel room was amazing and hotel staff were friendly helpful. Breakfast was satisfactory. For dinner and lunch, there are many nice restaurants in the neighbourhood to explore!

"Great stop over"
Pushkin_13, 14 Mai 2016

Found this little gem en route to Czech Republic. Located in the Dutch "mountains" the scenery is beautiful and the air is clean. The hotel itself is well presented, clean and tidy. Staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. Restaurant is very good, food served was excellent. My only complaint " no English translation of dinner menu".

"Making good progress"
Ignace D, 24 Octobre 2015

We returned to this hotel after having stayed here last year. Dring the previous stayed, the hotel looked a little tired. Don't know what happened but this time around the whole experience was a lot better. Friendly staff, nice clean room and good food. Will certainly return here when we are in for walking and biking in this beautiful region again.

"Great overnight place"
Maranda K, 09 Août 2015

This hotel was a great place to stay for a night while traveling further. It is located in a small quite town. The nature surrounding the hotel is beautiful. Thee rooms were of decent size and clean. Thee hotel staff was helpful and thee breakfast selection was great. There are also several restaurants located not to far from the hotel great placee to stop wagon traveling tto Belgium Or Germany.

"In the Dutch Mountains"
Joskefet, 18 Février 2015

Not exactly what they meant in the song, but this hotel is situated on the highest point in the Netherlands - not super high of course , as the Netherlands are litterally Low Lands (even lower than the North Sea). Stil this provides you with a splendid panoramatic view of a beautiful landscape from your hotelroom. It is also a very peaceful and quiet place, so if you are looking for nice surroundings to walk, or mountainbike, or cycle, this is the place to be. Slenaken and Heyenrath are both on walking distance , where you will find a number of restaurants and brasseries to your liking (gastronomic or basic food , ample choice). The hotel offers you spacious rooms : we had a Junior Suite and were very happy with the extra salon , where we could spend an agreable evening after an exhausting walk in mother's nature. The restaurant is very pleasant : you will enjoy your well provided breakfast in this nicely decorated room. There are some interesting places , just near by. Valkenburg is a lively city but in a half hour you can hop across the border and visit Aachen in Germany. Or why not go to Maastricht for a bit of shopping and sight seeing? Both places are equally tempting !

"In need of some overhaul but OK"
Ignace D, 11 Novembre 2014

We went to this hotel with a Groupon voucher and the experience was OK. Clean room, rather small but who cares when one is in this beautiful region for hiking. Staff and breakfast was up to standard so no complains here. Carpets in the corridors needs to be replaced because is really dirty in some areas. Will most likely return.

"Terrible experience"
FrbDK_mr, 25 Août 2014

I had a very bad experience staying at this hotel. The staff is rude, don't care about customer service, and can't speak very much english. The WIFI doesn't work very well - especially not when staying in rooms a Little bit away from the reception. Take care if you buy a special offer, as the might cheat you and say that the special offer doesn't count anyways. So all extra included will not be provided. Best advice: Find another hotel and there is plenty of them in the area.

"Rubbish"
John R, 21 Juillet 2014

If you would like an early start before 7.30am dont go for this hotel, and if you would like dinner later than 8.00pm then don't use this hotel. Also the food is very poor and tasteless. The hotel is a long way from the main village. I would not recomend this hotel to my enimies.
