"A generous 3..."

09/07/2018

Hotel is in a fantastic location with regards to the proximity to the city centre, however it is down a narrow road behind shops, therefore quite underwhelming surroundings. There are also some questionable neighbours including a bar that is open (playing music) until 6am! The staff at the hotel were great and couldn't do enough to help you, however it was clear they were running the hotel on a minimum of staff and the reception staff were doubling up as bar staff with limited success. The breakfast at the hotel was decent value and pretty good quality. On the flip side the hotel could do with being renovated - the bar and breakfast areas excepted, which were nice. The rooms and hallways looked really tired and the carpets were not the cleanest either. In addition to this the lift was on its last legs and has to be the slowest lift I have ever used. Finally, the hotel has no air conditioning whatsoever and inadequate opening windows. I realise the UK is/was having extremely hot weather at the time however the rooms were reaching temperatures of 30+ degrees and the small desktop fans were completely inadequate. The huge windows in every room only had small openings at the top (almost at the ceiling) which let in little or no air. You also had to keep the curtains shut most of the time to stop it being like a greenhouse. I accept that this point is only valid in the spring/summer but it should still be taken into account when booking/staying here - this is why I gave the hotel a 3 as I feel it would be much better in the cooler months. If upgraded the hotel could definitely make improvements on this issue.

Great hotel located in a great central location. All the shops, restaurants, bars and clubs are located minutes walk away. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. Parking is 1 minute walk away. Staying at the hotel will mean you pay £7.50 for 24 hours. Definitely worth a stay.

Very central close to Crucible and Lyceum as well as O2. Parking is in the large NCP under O2 which is subsidised to £7.50 for 24 hours. The rooms are small but adequate. Fine if you just want somewhere to lay your head. But if you are looking for a romantic break this probably isn't the place for you. Also hopefully they will have the key-cards sorted now.

"I had to move room in my pyjamas"

1
18/06/2018

• The television did not work. I informed the staff about it • The hotel did not have dinner, so I had to go out • While I was out, they looked at the TV system, but could not fix it • Apparently they did not see me come in after dinner. At 11 pm, when I was in bed, the manager knocked on the door to say the TV wiring was dangerous and I had to change room • I had to move room in my pyjamas • The new room was on the top floor, 4th. The lift was very slow, and there were no main stairs to this floor. I had to use the fire escape stairs for the rest of my stay. • The fourth floor room had noisy neighbours, who knocked on the wall and were making a phone call until midnight. • A window won't close, and this is in the noisy centre of the city. • There were people passed out. I helped one less than 100 m from the hotel when I went out for my meal, and the next morning there was one opposite the hotel when I got a taxi.

"Lovely rooms and staff, but ruined by noise problems."

2
03/06/2018

The hotel is well located for the city center. Unfortunately it is not appropriatly soundproofed for such a location, and could hear shouting and screaming from outside, even with the windows closed. (not just the evening, we struggled to sleep with the din from ~10pm til ~6am when it seemed to quieten). On top of that, the hotel has a very slow lift which also creaked ominously. The room was lovely, and staff very helpful, but I'll be avoiding of future visits to Sheffield.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Louise F I am sorry that an enjoyable stay was spoilt by the City Centre noise. We work continuously with surrounding businesses in a bid to reduce noise pollution, however despite our efforts I apologise that it impacted upon your stay with us. At the Cutlers Hotel we work hard making continuous improvements to enhance the guest experience and we would very much wish for the opportunity to welcome you back again Kind Regards Natalie Assistant Hotel Manager Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel

"Great location, hotel needs some TLC, Lovely staff"

08/05/2018

Location of the hotel is brilliant. All amenities nearby, close to crucible, Main Street, shopping and restaurants, bus to airport. The staff were very helpful and polite and couldn't do enough to help. The bar area was small, clean and cosy. However the rooms really need updating. Although clean, the bed was old and was on castors, moved around and there was a huge dip in the middle. The pillows, covers, curtains and paint all need updating. This hotel has the ability to be a beautiful hotel but the rooms badly need a make over.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Gillian S I was thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, and the fantastic customer service mentioned again. The team work hard in enhancing the guest experience and I am pleased this has been delivered again. I am happy you found our city centre location perfect for the purpose of your trip and hope you enjoyed exploring Sheffield. We are all excited about the refurbishment to the guest bedrooms that is due to commence shortly and would love nothing more than to welcome you back upon completion for you to enjoy the improvements. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"Central Location for City Centre and Crucible"

3
05/05/2018

Stayed for 2 nights in double room on 3rd floor. We were visiting for the World Snooker at the Crucible Positives = Friendly and helpful staff excellent central location (2-4 mins walk to shops, 02, Crucible & Lyceum, bars, restaurants and cinema) subsidised parking in nearby NCP car park room clean quality TV signal with plenty of channels offers a phone for you to use to roam around the City (see photo) Negatives = no air con in rooms which meant had to keep windows open - a lot of noise from outside particularly early morning. Mattress and pillows - seen better days and not supportive. We did not sleep well either night - recommend replacing Breakfast - cheap ingredients used. Would not recommend

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Tashybud Thank you for your feedback in regards to your recent stay with us. I hope you enjoyed the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre as much as we did. I am pleased that you enjoyed many aspects of your stay from the lovely staff, perfect location and discounted city centre parking rates we are able to offer to our guests. Our Handy Smart Phones are a new addition to all our rooms, providing our guests with free data and calls to use whilst out and about in Sheffield and I am thrilled you made use of this. We are always looking for ways to improve and areas addressed in your feedback are the focal point of our impending refurbishments as guest comfort and satisfaction is extremely important to us. Booked for snooker at the Crucible. Very convenient but not worth £99 a room. Bed comfortable, room amenities ok including free phone for calls and Internet. Lift very slow and bath leaked onto floor.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Tony F Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. I hope you had a great time at the World Snooker Championships this year, our location, being within footfall of the Crucible Theatre is ideal. I am sorry you were unhappy with aspects of your stay, continuous improvements are being made to the property to ensure our guests comfort and satisfaction. I would be delighted to be given the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to see how our continuous efforts are improved. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"Reasonably priced for city centre"

28/04/2018

This hotel is a reasonable option for an overnight stay in Sheffield City centre. I had a 'single' room which was quite small but comfortable, clean and en suite. I literally needed a bed for the night (without child in tow) so it was suitable for my needs. Shower was hot which was great. Conveniently located near a tram stop and there's plenty of shops / facilities around.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear L_E_Adventures I am happy to read that you were happy with your City Centre stay with us and found the hotel ideal for the purpose of your trip to Sheffield. Our location is ideal for accessing all Sheffield has to offer and provides our guests the perfect base to go and explore. Guest comfort is extremely important to us and I am pleased that you were satisfied with your stay. We hope to welcome you back again for any future trips to Sheffield, we also host two great family rooms if this was something you would require for a short break with the family. We stayed here for one night. location is fantastic with a car park across the road which you get a discounted rate for. The hotel itself is spotless and the staff are amazing being very helpful and knowledgeable with all our questions. special thank you to your receptionist who was working for our check in on Sat 21st at 2pm making us feel most welcome. Barman in evening was very pleasant and the prices were on a par with the local pubs. breakfast was delicious and again the staff most welcoming greeting us in and serving us with a full freshly cooked breakfast. A fantastic one night stay and we can't say how fantastic your staff were. would certainly recommend and stay again.

"City center location but poor "

2
17/04/2018

Sheffield city center hotel in good location for an early morning business meeting. Normally I would write a story about our stays and journey. But in this case I am struggling to find any positive words or inspiration ?? Just poor situated up a narrow dirty back street, woken early by the bin men (refuge disposal officials) ?? Clean enough inside but rather poor. Staff reasonable enough ?? Gordon ???? and Sissi ???? ??

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Gee D It was disheartening to read your review as this is in no way reflective of the impression we wish to be left. I am pleased you found our location ideal for the purpose of your trip however would not wish this to be your lasting impression of the Cutlers Hotel. Therefore I shall be in touch personally once our refurbishment to the guest bedrooms have taken place to hopefully change your opinion as we are committed to making continued improvements. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"Good choice"

31/03/2018

This hotel is in a brilliant position - very close to a central tram slot and there are several good pubs close by for food. The breakfast was superb. Just a sight niggle that the rubbish is collected noisily at 5am. Otherwise very comfortable room and I would certainly go back

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Helen B I was pleased to read you feedback following your previous stay at the Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers hotel and happy that you found our central location ideal for the purpose of your trip and for what Sheffield has to offer. Our breakfast is cooked fresh to order and I am happy to hear you enjoyed it, as well as you being comfortable during your stay with us. The team work hard in ensuring our guests have a great experience, placing a lot of focus on guest satisfaction and comfort. Given our City Centre location we proactively seek remedy to external noise, we work hard in building relations with local businesses in a bid to limit any disturbance to our guests. I am sorry this was not achieved during your stay and am grateful that it has not deterred you from staying with us again. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. "Great location, comfortable and good value"

25/03/2018

I stayed here on my own for one night. Staff very friendly and helpful. Comfortable room with everything I needed. Only criticisms were the room was too small and too hot. Had to put my suitcase on the floor when no space. Great location for city centre. Pleasant bar which was a bit pricey.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear DawnPritchard I was pleased to read that the team made your stay with us enjoyable whilst travelling alone. We always aim to provide our guests with comfort and the team work hard in delivering a high level of customer service which is frequently noted. I have taken on board your feedback regarding your room and Bar 1857 and thank you for taking the time to leave your review as it is essential in ensuring the right improvements are made so that we can deliver a superior product and highest level of guest satisfaction, which is at the forefront of the plans for our second stage of refurbishment. We would be thrilled to welcome you back again when you are next in Sheffield. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel

"Poor hotel"

1
17/03/2018

Stayed there 3 nights and not impressed. Breakfast had very little choice and is very overpriced for what you get. Staff disengaged and look like they don't want to be there. Stood in front of a receptionist for a few minutes before she even acknowledged me despite no one else being around. For the same price I have stayed in much better hotels. Room was dingy and cold. Would not stay again.

"Tired and looking old"

01/03/2018

I stayed here in July of 2017. I arrived early in the morning, so was greeted by the very friendly and helpful night porter. I was given room 106. This room was adjacent to a heavy fire door that slammed every time it was used. After a couple of hours of not being able to sleep, because of the door, I asked to be moved - and they did so immediately. I was moved to the top floor, which was fine, but for the ridiculously slow lift. The room was basic, but functional. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable, as it was quite small and pushed up against a wall. The room was cleaned regularly and the bathroom supplies were ok. The location of the hotel is perfect - right in the heart of the city and close to all amenities and bus/tram/train routes. The building looks like it's not been redecorated since 1976 - tatty looking wall hangings and 70s décor. Also, all the common areas seemed to be dark and dingy. On the whole, the staff were happy to help, though didn't go out of their way to inquire if you need any help. Personally, I think I prefer the more modern IBIS.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Colin T Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay from July 2017. I am pleased you found our location perfect for your needs and that the team delivered great customer service, which they are regularly praised for. The guest experience is extremely important to us and as a team work hard in delivering superior service. Since July improvements have continued to have been made and we are very excited as currently we are in the planning stages of our second stage of refurbishment, which we hope to have the opportunity of seeing you back again for in order to enjoy the improvements once complete. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"City centre"

25/02/2018

I stayed here just one night and it was perfect. Location was right in the centre of town, cheap 24hr rate (£7.50) for the NCP car park just across the road. I stayed in a double room, fairly small but big enough for me. Very comfy bed, nice bathroom and a good shower. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to all.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear samsteve_heathrow , I am very pleased to read you had a great stay with us and that you were happy with all aspects of your stay. Our city centre location is definitely ideal, placing us in the heart of everything Sheffield has to offer. I am pleased you made use of the discounted rate we are able to offer our guests at the Arundel Gate NCP. Your recommendation is very appreciated and we would love nothing more than to welcome you back again as our guest Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"Dirty Room"

1
21/02/2018

A terrible stay starting with a filthy room. Bathroom was not serviced properly and the general feeling of the hotel was dirty and grubby. Poor service throughout and an expensive Bar with an overpriced Restaurant. Yet another one to write off

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Charlesthe3rd, This is not the type of review that we like to see nor is it reflective of the standard I expect to be delivered. Our guest bedrooms are the target area in regards to our second stage of refurbishment which we are currently in the planning stages of. However I was disheartened to read your negative feedback regarding service as the Best Western Cutlers Hotel strives to ensure that a good guest experience is always delivered and the staff regularly receive five star feedback. If you could please contact me directly [email protected], providing more information so I can share the issues you experienced with our House Keeping Manager for review. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"Dropped standards with a few issues"

2
17/02/2018

We have stayed here several times before, however this time was not a great experience. Room was ok but we were in a family room with 3 people. We only had 2 sets of towels and missing a pillow. Shower was extremely poor and sink took ages to drain. I would avoid room 401 as a family room as there are larger ones. Not a lot of space for 3. Beds were comfy though One reason for staying here is free parking. However whilst the hotel gave us a ticket for the car park it only covered up to £15. We had to pay the other £7.50. We were there only about 17 hours. Very poor. Makes staying at the Hilton a better deal. I am a diamond plus member too so very disappointed

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Smeg1 I was disheartened to read your feedback, given that you had enjoyed previous stays with us and how much the team enjoy welcoming back regular guests. In regards to the car parking charge, the previous contract with the preferred NCP expired meaning that we now discount the car parking cost from £20.50 per 24hours to £7.50, although this is a significant discount given our location being perfectly in the heart of Sheffield, we appreciate the appeal of free city centre car parking and would look to reviewing the contract in the future. I am sorry that on this occasion we did not meet your expectations and your feedback has duly been handed over to both the housekeeping and maintenance department. We are currently in the planning stages of updating all our guest bedrooms which we are extremely excited about, if you could contact us directly we would love to welcome you back again once the improvements are complete. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"Great location"

3
15/02/2018

We stayed here due to being in Sheffield for a gig at the O2 academy which was across the road. We parked in the Q Park on Charles St and it was a 10 min walk through the winter garden and past the theatres. There were loads of places to eat nearby and it was located close to the high street. The Wetherspoons close by was lovely also. Check in was quick and easy. The hotel was very warm and was clean. We had booked a double room but it was super tiny. We struggled to get into the room as there was only a thin gap between the desk and the wall. It was fine for a couple for the night to sleep but it would have been impossible for 2 adults to get changed and ready in a room this size. The bed was comfy but a little small due to the room size. My partner is over 6ft and he struggled to move around in the room. I did notice noise from outside but it didn't bother me. However house keeping woke me up shouting down the hall and hoovering in the rooms adjacent which I was not happy about. Although check out was 11 it was impossible to lay in because of the thin walls. It wasn't the worst hotel and it was clean and comfy but I doubt we would visit again due to the size and noise.

Natalie C, Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Olivia L Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, I hope you had a great time at the concert at the O2 Academy. We have a preferred rate agreement with the Arundel Gate NCP, directly opposite the O2 academy where we could have offered you discounted parking. Your feedback regarding the housekeeping team has duly been handed across to the House Keeping Manager for review as guest comfort is extremely important to us. I am disappointed that you were unhappy with the size of the room, had this been brought to our attention we would have been more than happy to allocate you a different one. The Cutlers Hotel is a listed building and I hope you can appreciate the uniqueness of every room being a different shape and size as opposed to other hotels that mirror room shape and size dimensions throughout. The guest bedrooms are the main focus as we enter the planning stages of our second phase of refurbishment and your feedback will prove essential in ensuring the right improvements and adjustments are made to the property. Once the improvements have been made it would be lovely for you to try staying with us again - to see if we can exceed your expectations the second time around. Kind Regards Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

This hotel is well placed if you want to get around Sheffield - close to the buses, trams and station, close to the theatres, Peace Gardens and other venues. Efficient staff and quiet, comfortable room. Good value for money, would stay here again.

Spent 1 night here and had a good room. Staff really helpful. A good position down a side road off the town centre right near the cathedral and trams. Paid less than the Premier Inn and a free newspaper in the bar too! Would book again.

We have stayed here twice now and can say we'd come back again and again. The price is excellent as we generally come here as a group of friends and share a room between 4 (we've had The George Suite both times)! A great location, friendly staff, and the rooms are more than acceptable.

Natalie C, other at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear George L I am delighted you had another great stay with us, the team enjoy welcoming you back. "Good value for money"

01/02/2018

I recently stayed in this hotel, it's very close to centre, 3 minuets walk to shops and 10 minuets walk to the famous winter garden. Only 10 minutes walk from the train station and for those who have to go to the home office for their visa application, it's only 10 minuets walk to the home office. So close to everywhere... nice and spacious room, good price with nice and welcoming staff. Good value for money

10/01/2018

What appears to be a very pleasant high end hotel at first sight soon exposes its failings. It's not the cheapest in town & the staff are super friendly but that doesn't get you a good nights sleep, no for that you need a half decent mattress & that I didn't have! I had what appeared to be buttock valley as there was no support in the middle of the mattress at all, I ended up sleeping on the very edge only to be woken by Sheffield city noise at 5-30 am with delivery after delivery & siren after siren & by 6-45 I was checking out as I'd had enough, seriously I will not be using this hotel again.

Natalie C, Interim Hotel Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Ian G, Thank you for your feedback, I was saddened to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Firstly thank you for your kind words regarding the staff, it pleases me to see their efforts recognised. I have handed over your feedback regarding the mattress in your room to the housekeeping department to access the quality, as the experience you had is in no way reflective of the one I wished to be delivered. Being a City Centre hotel we proactively work with the local council and surrounding businesses to limit external noise, so I was disheartened that your stay was affected by deliveries. I will personally be looking into this matter as it breaches all mutual agreements we have worked so hard in securing. The public areas of the hotel, as you rightly pointed out were finished to a high standard during the first phase of refurbishment. Plans are in place to mirror this level of standard through out the guest bedrooms when the second stage commences. I would love to welcome you back after completion of this and ensure that we exceed your expectations, as I would not wish this to be your lasting impression. Kind Regards Natalie

This hotel is perfectly placed to enjoy the city centre shopping and nightlife. The rooms are modern and comfortable and the staff are lovely. Really enjoyed my stay and will definately come back again. No parking at the hotel but discounted car parking on the next street at £7.50 for 24 hours.

Natalie C, Interim Hotel Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear 600HD, Thank you for your fantastic five star review. It summarises exactly the high level of guest experience we strive to deliver, and your acknowledgement is appreciated by both myself and the team. Our city centre location places us perfectly in the heart of the city so our guests are in walking distance of what Sheffield has to offer. I am delighted by the prospect of being able to welcome you back again, especially given that we are in the planning stages of more improvements being made to the hotel for your enjoyment. We look forward to seeing you again very soon Kind Regards Natalie

"Great Service with attention to detail"

02/01/2018

This is by far the best hotel I've stayed at and will continue to book future stays. The manageress and staff are courteous, warm, and pay attention to detail and go above and beyond the their everyday duties to please. The location is perfect in the city centre but tucked away so no late night disturbances. Hotel is quiet, has everything you need and is extremely clean and rooms comfy, clean and good size. Lift can be slow, but hey it's good to get those steps in.

Natalie C, Interim Hotel Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Tania T, I cannot express how touched both myself and the whole team were to read your kind words. Your feedback highlights the whole teams continuous hard work and efforts in providing the best guest experience, and I thank you personally and on behalf of the team for recognising this. We love welcoming you back, your visits bringing a smile to the team and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon Best Wishes Natalie Interim Hotel Manager

"Disappointed "

My husband and I were visiting our new grandchild and instead of staying at my daughters we thought this hotel would be ideal with the added treat of a full English breakfast on Christmas Day We were in an executive room which was somewhat disappointing. Hospitality tray had two sachets of milk and a few coffee sachets Toiletries in the bathroom with minimal one shampoo one shower gel one lotion Concierge did manage to find a few tops of milk and an extra shower gel Members of staff were extremely pleasant and told us that there were just five room occupied at night On Christmas morning we went down to the cellar or basement dining room what's the member of staff was pleasant the atmosphere was cold and miserable we ordered bacon and tomato for myself and egg bacon and tomato with my husband we got served one rasher of bacon and tomato which smelt of fish my husbands egg was fried rather excessively Decided we would not bother with breakfast second day and when we checked out we made appropriate representations to the reception staff. In fairness to her when she could not identify which Jeff had been cooking our breakfast cost was deducted The hotel itself is not in a particularly well lit area of Sheffield and I would therefore be quite conscious if I was single female traveller

"Comfortable Stay in the Heart of Sheffield"

We do come to Sheffield a few times a year for nostalgic reasons but this was our first stay at this hotel. Although it doesn't have it's own car park you get discounted parking for overnight stays at the Arundel Gate park directly opposite. The room we had was a good size with comfortable twin beds, the usual complementary toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities. We were taking in a gig at the O2 slap bang opposite so it was a great place to stay. Staff were very pleasant and helpful and we would definitely stay there again. Ate out for breakfast.

Dear AleksHuddersfield Thank you for your recent review. I was delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and the team would love the opportunity to welcome you back again when you are next in Sheffield. "Bring back the waitress"

16/12/2017

We love every race but last year when we stayed there was a lovely young English girl serving breakfast! Myself and a few of our friends noticed the lack of customer service from current staff, maybe language barrier but the previous girl was an asset to your hotel, she remembered our orders ever morning and would great us with a ‘morning sir, regular two eggs and three sausage' it made the stay far more welcoming! Apart from this Maggie and Natalie were lovely but bring back the old waitress!!

A fantastic hotel, in a highly accessible location. Fantastic staff, who are caring, efficient and helpful, with comfortable and clean rooms, as well as the hotel's appearance in general. I highly recommend this hotel, when staying in Sheffield.

"A very pleasant surprise "

We booked this hotel months in advance at a very good room rate to attend Queen in concert. Our expectations were exceeded. The rooms are well equipped and very clean and the bathrooms were large with a good bath and shower head. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, especially the delightful ladies in the beautifully decorated breakfast room who smiled the whole time! The full English breakfast was of good quality and beautifully cooked. We would definitely stay at this hotel again if we visit Sheffield.

Booked for one night with late rooms who only had twins available. Requested a double and lucky we were upgraded to a huge double, Room 303. Overlooking the city, the room was in great condition, and apart from the long climb up the stairs could not fault the place. Superb location, but is it just me who hates the roads in and around Sheffield?...the huge amount of road signs does not make for careful driving!!

"Central Location"

27/11/2017

Rooms are small but comfortable & clean. It was noisy - considering the room overlooked what appeared to be a pedestrian street there was a lot of vehicle noise & noise from neighbouring rooms, for most of the night. Breakfast was poor - we went at 9.00 (open until 09.30) There was 1 pineapple yogurt & a couple of slices of pineapple on the buffet, with some white sliced bread for toast. No pastries, no choice of bread. The poached & fried eggs on the cooked breakfasts were like rubber and the plates of food were brought out 1 at a time with a few minutes wait in between each plate.

Natalie C, Interim Hotel Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Anne C Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, your feedback is essential in ensuring that continued improvements are made. Being a City Centre hotel we proactively seek remedy to external noise working closely with surrounding businesses and the city council. I hope it did not impact too heavily upon your stay as we value the comfort of our guests very highly. I am disheartened to hear that you were unhappy with your breakfast and the issues noted are in no way reflective of the service I expect to be delivered. I will be reviewing this issue personally with the head chef to address the standard on this occasion. If you are in Sheffield again in the future I would be delighted to welcome you back, if you need any assistance please let me know directly

Really friendly staff, nice breakfast, clean rooms and refreshments brought in everyday (tea coffee etc..). Staff went above and beyond the usual service you'd expect at a hotel along with the manager being friendly as well. Enjoyed my stay :)

"If youare handicapped"

18/11/2017

This hotel is well positioned near the trams and theatres. We found the staff - mainly foreign - charming and helpful. Being handicapped we found the broken lift a problem - so check before you book. Our room was very comfortable and warm. The breakfast was excellent. We were a bit annoyed that the payment was taken immediately from our credit card when the site said payment at the hotel. For some strange reason two £1 charges were added to check our veracity, We didn't perceive a restaurant but cooked food was available. We ate elsewhere. We would certainly recommend the hotel and would certainly book again. We also noticed the price dropped one week before by several £s.

Natalie C, Interim Hotel Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Kingell Firstly let me apologise for the inconvenience caused by the lift being out of service. Emergency unforeseen repairs unfortunately had to be carried out during the period of your stay, although this issue has since been remedied I fully appreciate the impact it had upon your stay and thank you again for your patience and understanding on this matter. I am delighted that you were happy with your stay despite the inconvenience of the lift issue and thank you for your lovely feedback regarding the bedrooms, staff and breakfast - guest comfort is extremely important to us. If possible could you please contact me directly [email protected] in regards to the charges as I would need details of which booking agency was used in order to investigate on your behalf

"Low price city centre hotel"

16/11/2017

Stayed in the hotel recently. It is fine for a one night stay. Clean and comfortable enough. Some of the décor is tired. Low cost though. The communal and bar area seemed to be a bit more up to date than the room I stayed in. Not the best but ok for the price.

Natalie C, Interim Hotel Manager at Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Dear JWIL247 Thank you for your feedback, I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and would like to thank you for taking the time to leave your review. "Night away"

05/11/2017

Really great location can not fault it and super easy to find walking from the train station. Room was comfy and clean it's only a 4 star as when the club nearby kicked out it got really noisy at about 4 in the morning. I paid over £150 for 1 night and I don't feel I got any more for money then I would of at a budget hotel. While there was nothing bad about this hotel I doubt id stay here again

"Ok hotel, not great but ok."

27/10/2017

Stayed here while my father was in hospital. The hotel is clean and the staff friendly and it's located close to the city centre, bus and tram lines. There's also a nice cinema just outside the entrance. The room was a decent size but the pillows and mattress were very soft, it felt like I was sinking into them. It's ok if you like that but I prefer a harder mattress. The shower was nice and hot but small, turning around was difficult. My mother in the next room had similar problems and is a lot smaller than me. At times it was difficult to find staff, I never saw anyone working in the bar and we had to get the handy man to find a receptionist so we could check out. The lift was out of order during our visit but the staff were happy to carry out bags up to the rooms. Overall the hotel was decent and ideally placed for the city centre but has a few niggles that need looking at.

"Central in Sheffield"

3
25/10/2017

The first room we were given (1st floor) had, in effect, no ventilation nor any aircon. There were windows but they could only be opened at the very top, using a pole which was not supplied. The receptionist had to come and open it for us, and couldn't leave the pole as there is only one! We decided to ask for a different room, and were given a much better one on the 4th floor, with openable windows and a great view. The receptionist was very helpful and did her very best but there is no doubt this is a hotel in serious need of an update. Having said that if you are happy with a 1980s style room, which was actually perfectly comfortable, it would be fine but perhaps a bit overpriced for what you get. For parking you get a special rate at the nearby public car park but if you don't know Sheffield (which we didn't) it is a nightmare to find for the first time. Written instructions for finding the car park would have been helpful.

"Great location, but don't expect modern luxury. "

22/10/2017

My husband and I booked for a one night stay as we were attending a large event from 8pm until early the next morning and required somewhere to store our bags, get ready and hopefully get a few hours sleep too. This hotel, although still overpriced compared to what I paid in the past was far reasonably priced over other city centre hotels for this particular night. On arrival we were greeted immediately and advised that the lift was out of order. This surprised me as the lift was also broken on my last stay a few years ago. We were however offered a ground floor room if this would be a problem but looking at the paperwork I could see that we'd been upgraded to an executive room do despite my poor arthritic knees we accepted the original room on the 2nd floor. As I had already stayed at the hotel previously I knew what to expect from our room. It quite clearly hasn't been refurbished since the 80's or early 90's and there's light varnished wood everywhere, patterned carpets and dated bathrooms but it's clean and functional and aesthetics aside it serves a purpose. Our executive room upgrade (which we're very grateful of) was a little larger than the others on the floor looking at the floor plan on the door but still very small and a rather weird L shape with floor to ceiling windows facing out to the rear of the hotel and robes / slippers. As others have mentioned before in reviews, the narrow alleys at either side create a canyon effect which carry noise upwards, so do expect to hear some during your stay, particularly if your room is at the front. As we were expecting to get in during the early hours this was no trouble to us at night, but certainly caused some disturbance during our attempt to have an afternoon knap. Not the hotels fault, but something to be aware of. The hotel is old and the layout very strange. There were numerous sounds encountered varying from lightly annoying, intermittent humming (source unidentified) on and off for around 40mins at a time to full on creepy swishing/rushing sounds in the walls which were again unidentifiable. Even after a few drinks, I do awaken to noises so this was an issue for me personally. If you sleep heavy this shouldn't cause you any problems. The shower was pleasant but not very powerful, as I mentioned it's quite old and drawn from taps rather than from a separate source. The sink taps were pretty bad - water didn't run until you'd turned them a few times which initially led me to believe there was no running water. Towels were clean and plentiful. Overall a pleasant stay in a good location, but I'd rather not stay again due to the unidentified noises which were a little annoying for me personally.

"Not what's expected from Best Weetern"

2
22/10/2017

In a nutshell Rooms:small adequate (but expected more for price and from a Best Western) Cleanliness: good Location: Close to theatres and O2 NOISE!: you can hear the next door rooms turn on a light, and if you want to hear others having Sex and that's your thing (maybe this is the hotel for you!!) You can also hear A LOT of noise and shouting from outside. The lift was out of service, however we were emailed in advance about this inconvenience. Final say: There are a lot better hotels in Sheffield for the same or similar prices.

"There are much better hotels in Sheffield"

2
12/10/2017

I spent 2 nights in the hotel, having stayed in many other Sheffield hotels before for comparison. Room: Very small and a bit dated. The windows would not open more than an inch as the curtain rail was put up in the wrong place. I landed up wedging the windows open with toilet paper to keep them slightly ajar as the room was so hot. The curtains looked like they had been washed and shrunk, which meant they did not cover the bottom part of the window (they looked silly also). Cleanliness: Average Staff: The staff were friendly Location: Excellent in the middle of the city Noise: Lots of noise in the hotel, and was woken to loud arguments which you could clearly hear. Comparison to other Sheffield hotels: This was priced similar but was no way up to the same standard of other budget hotels. I would not return. Overall: Rundown, old hotel which is charging too much.

"Worst night sleep ever"

01/10/2017

Booked as part of a birthday present as close to the venue we were going to. This was the only good thing about the hotel, room was very small considering we paid £129. Bed was very uncomfortable, TV remote didn't work, heating was on full and could not turn off, could not open windows as too high even for my husband who is 6ft+, noise from street at kicking out time for the night club kept us awake from 3am and at 8am drilling of the road started in the street outside. We left feedback with reception which was to be passed on to the manager but we are still waiting for some communication. One of the worst places I have ever stayed

The hotel is very clean, and the room and bathroom very large and very nice. Hotel staff was very friendly, and very prompt with the service. One day I forgot my card in the room, and they immediately made another one for me. My only complain was the poor quality of the WiFi, which might be an issue in certain rooms, as they told me at the reception that no other guest experienced problems.

"Lots of problems. Won't be back."

21/09/2017

This hotel is central and rooms are small but ok. I stayed only one night and as such hard to get things corrected so can't say if hotel responsive to issues or not however. Room 206. Noisy alley outside, TV reception hopeless, wifi did not connect and shower head not right for the holder so difficult to use. Lift didn't stop at floor as button broken and when car park ticket validated it was £7.50!shirt so I had to pay anyway. Daughter at uni in Sheffield so will be back to city but won't stay here. Also booking was for B&B but when arrived staff insisted room only.

"Good enough but light-sleepers beware!"

3
21/09/2017

For £48 for a double room (including VAT but no breakfast) this was a satisfactory hotel, very centrally located, and clean and comfortable enough - but I wouldn't pay much more than that. I was allowed to book in before 12, well before the official check-in time, and the room was large enough. There's nothing flash or luxury about the place, and the furniture and decor is a bit 80s style, and the stained net curtains and bashed-in box of tissues don't create a great first impression (see pictures). The shower pressure was at “dribble” level, no bath, the TV remote was dodgy (or maybe just flat batteries). Reception staff were friendly. It's a small-ish hotel (45 rooms, I think) and the bar looked nice but was deserted when I looked. The “noise” issue that others report is likely to be a problem for some - I was woken briefly at about 1am and then 2am by drunks shouting outside. The problem is that the hotel is surrounded by narrow street “canyons” so the shouting echoes upwards - nothing the hotel can do about it, so if you're a light sleeper you might want to stay somewhere else.

"Location and bar area to relax in only are worth staying for."

17/09/2017

My daughter and I stayed last night pre moving into uni. Booked over the phone where the price they gave me was cheaper by asignificant amount than on line at booking.com, trivago etc and the hotels own website by £35 for the night in question. Entrance fine, small, not busy so didn't matter. Bar area lovely to chill out in but wine list was poor and the waiter was uninformed but I knew what rose we liked so fine. Then we tried to order some food. They don't do any at the weekends and in the week the menu is shocking and small and merely a very limited pub menu. When I booked on the phone the lady did not tell me they did not serve food. Annoying and we had to have horrid food delivered thro 'just eat' because we had brought our dog and where you can go in Sheffield with a dog is limited. We went to bed early. The bedroom was small but clean. However the wquality of the bedding, mattress, pillows especially was horrendous. Of the cheapest foam quality I've seen. The window in the room was broken and held together with sellotape and the curtains did not meet so even if we had slept, despite the roaring drunks downstairs on the street outside until after 5 am, we would have been woken up by daylight anyway. Hot t in the bathroom didn't turn off. Cigarette butts on the balcony. The lift is painfully and scarily so so slow and chokes all the way up my daughter snap chatted it as the noise you hear before you die! Breakfast was ok. Decent coffee and nice smiling Sfax but the English breakfast had dry cold eggs, microwaved reheated sausages, bland and greasy other items. I sound like a moaning old bag. Everything I've said is factual. It was room 403. We are trying their sister hotel next week. I'm hoping for a better experience because they are dog friendly. I'd definitely not use this one again. Best thing about here is the staff. Smiling and friendly and generally very sweet. Especially the lady I booked through.

"Lovely stay"

"Best Western = Worse Sleep"

1
25/08/2017

We really loved the slightly insane retro interior, going into the hotel it was reminiscent of the film 'High-Rise'...unfortnately that was the only bit that we enjoyed. The rooms were really hot, so my business partner and I had to have the windows open. However, because the windows were open we were kept up all through the night with the noise of what sounded like rubbish trucks/collections, which occurred pretty much every 2 hours through the night and into the morning. We were unable to close the windows to block out the noise as the windows are very high (my business partner is 6ft). There was also a lack of consistency, my business partner had the room next to mine, his had complimentary biscuits, mine didn't. The worst nights sleep that I have ever had at a hotel, we will definitely not be staying there again on our next business trip to Sheffield.

"Incredibly noisy"

2
20/08/2017

I had really high hopes visiting this hotel. Bang in the centre, the decor was smart and clean, ideal for a budget stay. However, the room was incredibly hot and noisy. In the evening you had the drunk people walking past and at about 6am the offloading starts. I'm usually quite relaxed about this kind of stuff, you sacrifice for the central location, but because it was so hot in the room I didn't get a wink of sleep. There were also things missing from the room - a mirror next to the hairdryer and a toilet brush for example.

"City centre location. Ideal for the Crucible"

3
16/08/2017

Good clean room, good breakfast. Evening meal choice was poor, choice of four main courses and one of those was not available. Poor choice of beer in the bar. Room was quiet. All public rooms were clean. Staff very pleasant I would use again if in the area.

"A conveniently located and comfortable 3-star hotel"

4
08/08/2017

Not very new, but well enough maintained for a 3-star hotel. Really convenient location - 2-3 minutes walking to Crucible Theatre, less than 5-6 minutes to the city centre, 6 minutes to the bus interchange station and 10 minutes to the train station. Room size is small, but it's cosy and comfortable. Nice bed, decent bathroom, very clean, quiet enough (practically no traffic in the streets around). Good service. Breakfast is not ideal - it's not a buffet (except for the most basic stuff, which Americans call Continental breakfast), but if you want an English breakfast, but you have to order it and wait for several minutes. Wifi is good in terms of speed and reliability.

"Good Location - Nothing special. Noisy"

3
05/08/2017

We've stayed in this hotel before in 2011 & again in July 2017. Hidden away just off High Street the location couldn't be better for the city centre. It's functional but no more - staff friendly, price reasonable, decor a bit tired but clean. However it's VERY noisy. Don't expect any sleep after 5.30am - all sorts of clanging & hydraulic noises going on outside - luckily we needed to be up early. A few drain smell problems when we 1st arrived which seemed to go after a few flushes of the toilet. Shower was uncontrollable - scorching hot or freezing cold - dance around at your peril! Wouldn't recommend more than a 2 night stay.

"Hen night"

3
30/07/2017

Visited for a hen night, had a twin room which I shared with a friend. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The room wasn't that big, but the bathroom was spacious compared to a lot of hotels of similar price and type. The room was hot though, and the location meant that open windows made for noise. We didn't have breakfast, so can't comment on that. Staff were nice, especially the gentleman on reception overnight. Overall fine for a city visit, but maybe avoid if you're after somewhere quiet.

"Convenient Location in City Centre"

3
27/07/2017

Well maintained City Centre Hotel, Welcome and service was good. Rooms were clean and smart although small, strange has the en suite bathroom was large. Bed was comfortable but being a City Centre location could be noisy. Upper floors would be preferable. It is very much in the mode of the brand. Breakfast was good and value at just £8. with full English plus buffet service for toast bread cereals, fruit, juices etc. The main feature is the location being close to attractions such as the Crucible. Well located for access to station and bus/tram interchange. However it is uphill from these and does involve steps if walking.

"Noisy, but functional"

3
07/07/2017

I was in the city to visit the University of Sheffield, where the campus is right in the city centre. The hotel is barely a 10 minute walk from the uni, the train station and has the tram station right outside. There's a theatre and several pubs nearby too, which is great for evening activities, but not so fantastic for your sleep. The windows were high and didn't close, so any and all noise made by the road, party-goers and tram came into the room. (Admittedly, I did stay on a Friday night, which was possibly the worst decision for a quiet night.) Ear plugs are a must! The facilities were fine and I had no issues with the sheer number of tea packets, which was a delight. The sinks were outside of the bathroom which did seem a little odd, however it didn't cause any issues. The shower itself was high pressure, hot and big enough for me to turn around and not bash my rather pointy elbows in; I'd quite happily take the shower back home with me. I didn't have breakfast at the hotel, so can't speak for the food, but the bar was well-stocked and I was served very quickly. The staff were very helpful in giving me information and directions around the immediate area of the city. I'd definitely stay for another short stay, but would venture further afield for anything more than a single night - the noise is too loud for a good, deep sleep.

"Poor experience in Sheffield"

2
26/06/2017

Stayed at Best Western in Sheffield room very hot and breakfast very poor. This hotel is in a very good location but it is not the best hotel. Staff although pleasant did not appear very interested I any problems experienced.

"At the heart of the city"

4
23/06/2017

We stayed for six nights in total (broken by a short trip to Devon and South Wales). The location is perfect for walking to theatres and city centre shopping. It is also well positioned for.bus stops, taxi rank and the train station for travelling from the city in any direction. The staff are warm and friendly, even when you are checking in at midnight from an international flight. The accommodation is simple standard hotel accommodation and the beds were comfortable. Not comfortable enough to prevent the Saturday night revellers from disturbing my sleep, but that could have been the jet-lag, and anyway I popped some ear plugs in and slept soundly after that. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, I do wish there had been marmalade for my toast though. One important word of caution would be the shower. I followed my son into the shower on our first morning and, of course, the shower recess was wet. When I stepped up into the shower my legs went like Bambie's and, although I tried to steady myself, I fell and jammed one leg in the shower door. No real harm done, except for my pride and a multi-coloured bruised leg from toe to knee. My recommendation would be to ask for a rubber mat, whether you have a shower or bath, the moment you check in as there are no hand rails to hold on to. Don't let this one negative put you off though as I would definitely stay there again.

"Friendly and functional "

4
04/06/2017

I was in Sheffield for a three-day visit to a colleague at the University. Transport from nearby to the hotel is excellent. Breakfast was very good, both well-made and also allowed for simple changes to their standard offerings. Early check-in and late baggage pick-up was easy and without fuss, and staff were uniformly friendly. My only complaints are a somewhat glacial lift (at least 1 minute to go up a few floors), a somewhat leaky shower (for 15min after use), and croissants which were slightly burnt on top as part of the breakfast buffet (but which I'm not too proud to say still tasted lovely). Despite these niggles, I would stay again.

"Nice hotel"

03/06/2017

Stayed here for 2 nights in Sheffield, attending a wedding in the city centre. The hotel was basic, but very clean, comfy bed, friendly staff and excellent location, ideal for a base in Sheffield. A lot quieter than I expected reading the other reviews, we were on the first floor and heard no noise at all. Would stay here again.

Stayed here to go to the snooker at the Crucible and was only a few minutes walk away. Also easy to walk into the city centre. Hotel was a bit dated but had everything you'd need for a base and staff were very helpful

Booked this hotel because it was in the city centre, lovely friendly staff at check in, checked us in quickly so we could get to the room and dry off from the downpour we got caught in. We were on the first floor, room was nice enough, bed was enormous and very comfy, would have had a great nights sleep if it hadn't been for all the noise coming from outside! Not sure if I'd stay here again.

"A well located and pleasant hotel"

This is my third stay at this hotel in as many years which says a lot about my opinion of this hotel. It is exceptionally well positioned only a few steps away from the city centre and about 10 minutes away from the station. The rooms are reasonably spacious, clean and well equipped and can be accessed by stairs or lift. You won't find many with a view though. Breakfast is varied and hot meals are cooked fresh rather than self service which always makes them better in my opinion. As indicated by the number of stays I have accumulated, I think this hotel is good value and I would thoroughly recommend it.

"Where do i start!"

12/05/2017

I stopped here this week for 2 nights. On arrival I decided to go to the the bar to get an orange and lemonade, but was told there was no orange, I spotted some in the fridge so this was sorted, the barman asked if I wanted ice but then informed me he would need to go upstairs and get some, so I did not bother. A work colleague and myself decided to eat in the hotel, so I ordered sausage and mash, the barman came back a few minutes later and told me there were no sausages, but was given a free plate of chips! I ended up with a lamb curry which was ok, but obviously had been microwaved. My colleague had a lasagna which was hard on the edges and surrounded by half an acre of leaves! I went to to bar to order a draft Becks and was told they didn't actually have any. I went to breakfast and asked for beans on toast, which came out as one slice of toast with around 30 beans on it, more annoyingly the beans were just about cold, so I left that and had no time to complain at the time. On night 2 I went to the bar to again to find there was still no draft lager. My colleague and I decided enough was enough and took our business elsewhere for drinks and food. That evening there was a lot of noise coming from shouting and banging doors, coming from within the hotel, so plenty of lost sleep. On a more positive note, the staff were friendly, car parking tickets for the car park across the road are discounted by the hotel. My room was clean and comfortable. Good central location. In summary, my overall experience was not a good one, for a 2 night stay which cost over £200, I expected a lot more. My colleague had her own poor experience with the hotel as well. Once bitten twise shy, I will not go back and cannot recommend this hotel to any of my colleagues or anyone else for that matter.

"Very cold "

06/05/2017

Nice place and very convenient - in the city center and not far from the railway station. Nice hot breakfasts. The hotel is quite old with old windows - you can feel the wind with your hand. It was VERY cold in the room - I slept in a warm cardigan. The staff was very nice and offered to switch on the radiator. It didn't help a lot but was very lovely from them. The heater could save the stay but they didn't have any

"Great Location"

Stayed in this hotel as I was attending the snooker in the crucible. Hotel was in an excellent location. Hotel is dated but clean and the staff are extremely friendly. Suitable location for a city visit

"Very clean but dated"

30/04/2017

The hotel is very well placed, especially for our visit to the Crucible. The staff are friendly, the place is very clean but... It's certainly not the cheapest and it appears to be lost in the past with some 70s vibes going on, with nuances of the 80s, and not in an ironic way. The bar is basic. All fine but not really much more

"Spotlessly clean"

27/04/2017

First visit to a Best Western hotel and was impressed by the standard of cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. This hotel is pretty central and close to a tram stop so very handy. There was a decent sized bath and good shower in our bathroom and the hotel has a nice bar, breakfasts are what you would expect in a mid-priced chain and absolutely fine. The lift is quite slow and on bin day (Tuesday) it's very noisy for half an hour in the early morning because the hotel is down a narrow side street where the local businesses put out their skips. It's all perfectly clean and neat but can't be emptied and returned without significant noise. A good, clean and good value hotel though.

"check on ok ,but down hill afterwards"

18/04/2017

arrived about 2.30pm check in ok, given room next to lift , room 200 , came back about 11.pm ,hope to a have shower , no hot water, member of staff came to room with me to test the shower and told due a water and heating issue the hotel had a bad weekend, i was told to run hot water in shower for 15 minutes, 15 minutes later still frozen cold water was given a new room and told to took keycard for new room and my shower products with we for a shower , my bed was right under a window given a cold breeze coming though the window,,, breakfast , was ok ,but overpriced i wish i never paid update for breakfast and went to local cafe ,,the was the first i used this chain of hotels and never use one again ,, lots more hotels in sheffield to use , i will use internet better next time and more time on trip advisor to find a hotel next time i visit sheffield

10/04/2017

this hotel was awful, the bedding was old and worn out, Pillows were flat and dirty, carpet was dirty and not hoovered. The shower kept going hot and cold. The Bar area was awful and unattended the coffee machine was broken and struggled to get a coffee at lunchtime. Only two draft pumps one bitter and one lager and they had no gas so could not serve draft beer....... This was a bad advert for Best Western Staff very unhelpful too.

"Compact Room"

3
09/04/2017

Lack of ventilation so room extremely hot. Not enough space in room. Dog friendly. Some of the staff helpful and friendly. Has different tariffs for parking and for rooms. On arrival suggests at Reception to get best rate book direct. Tripping over furniture as so compact. Has foldaway travel case rack leaning on wall, however no room to put this out. Adequate for an overnight stay, but would not like to stay longer.

"Hotel in a good location"

02/04/2017

I booked in advance to stay at the Cutlers Hotel I got a bit of a bargin as they were selling off the last room for the night. The hotel is in an ideal location a short walk to the 02 Academy for a gig that I was attending. The room was small but comfortable and was clean the reception staff were helpful and polite though I wasn't advised of the time of checkout. The bar area looked appalling but I cannot comment on the breakfast or the bar fully as I didn't use either. All staff that I came across were very welcoming though the hotel does need updating it was worth the money I paid and would stay again if I needed to be in the area for only a night or two. It does state in the welcome book that extra bedding can be supplied as it can get cold in the rooms.

"Simple hotel in a good location"

20/03/2017

This Best Western hotel is in a central location near the O2 academy and the Lyceum theatre. There is no car park however the Arundel gate NCP car park is in walking distance and the hotel can offer you a voucher for it The room we stayed in was a bit dated but it was clean. Breakfast was pleasant with full English breakfast on demand. Overall good value for the price

Nikki L, General Manager at Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to post your review of your recent experience here at the hotel. I was very pleased to read that you had a enjoyable stay with us. I will pass your comments through with regards to cleanliness and we will very much look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future. Kind Regards Nikki Lucas

"Not up to BW standards we are used to"

16/03/2017

Pros Central location, walking distance from train. Staff most accomodating whenever I wanted ice or windows closed. All the staff we encountered were AWESOME. Room was very clean Cons George St is a small street then turns into alleyway. Saw lots of garbage/alcohol bottles/bad smells in every little doorway. Several homeless hanging out in alley. I realize this is not controlled by hotel however I would not have booked had I known. Our room faced the theatre and bar. Very noisy til wee hours then the delivery truck for the back start around 6am. I would think the back side would be noisy too. Windows had to be opened / closed by staff using a pole as windows up near ceiling. Not sure why the pole couldn't be left in room. They were ALWAYS very prompt when we called for it. No fridge or coffee maker. Kettle and instant coffee packs. Toilet flushed sometimes. Bathtub was an awesome size however minimal hot water. The taps had to be turned on almost fully open before water came. We were on 2nd floor. The remote worked intermittently for TV. Possible battery issue but in fairness I did not tell the staff. Because I had prepaid for 3 nights ,no cancellation we stayed. The rest of our trip we went to Leopold hotel. For less than £15/ night more WELL worth it.

Nikki L, General Manager at Cutlers Hotel, responded to this review
I would like to thank you for choosing the Best Western Cutlers Hotel, and for your kind words in regard to our team member's and cleanliness of the rooms. Thank you for highlighting the problem you had in regards to the noise due to the open windows in your room. We are currently in talks with a reputable supplier in regards to our best option for guests to be able to remotely open and close windows themselves, which we wish to focus on during our second phase of renovation. Please accept our sincere apologies for the impact it had upon your stay and rest assured that it is something we are proactively seeking resolution. If you have any more feedback that would have enhanced your visit please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. Kind Regards Nikki Lucas

I stayed one night on 21st November as I was visiting Sheffield for my nieces' graduation. It was perfect. I booked a single room and was surprised when I arrived that I had a double room. The staff were so friendly and the bar area with the tree was good. I had my window open and had a perfect nights' sleep. The continental breakfast was good.

"Lovely staff but hotel needs a lot of improvement"

19/11/2016

Stayed here for 2 nights, during the stay the noise levels were awful, every movement could be heard and the water pipes sounded as if they were breaking, very restless sleep, staff are lovely though!

"Disappointing"

2
14/11/2016

We stayed on Saturday 12th October we booked 2 double rooms and both rooms were very disappointing , very small , dingy and tired. Our bathroom had mould and after running the shower for 10 minutes to get any hot water to no avail we gave up, the shower in the other room didn't even work! We complained on our check out but no one seemed interested that none of us had been able to shower. Also there is constant noise all night long due to our room being next an alleyway . I don't think we will be returning .

13/11/2016

Avoid this place Tired interior Staff spoke little English and could not find the booking Got a manager who turned up in ripped jeans and the shirt. Bed was so light is moved constantly. Only 1 pillow. Gap in the door let in light so couldn't sleep. Guests running round banging on doors at 3am We were told we had free car parking across the road. Used the ticket but it was only discounted so had to pay. Other guests were complaining about this as well. When we complained all they did was take my email address

"would recommend "

13/11/2016

initially when we got to the hotel there was an issue with our booking we booked a family room for 4 adults and it would only sleep 3, however we were offered a room with 2 single beds and the second night we were given an extra put up bed. staff were all very helpful and extra thanks to the night porter John Paul for his help with our key cards. beds were really comfy and the location was superb for what we wanted, I would recommend to friends and family

"Amazing Service"

09/11/2016

Stayed here for 1 night. Amazed by the service from the staff. Maggie on reception was fabulous. Came back in the evening for drinks. Craig was awesome behind the bar. He was so attentive, polite and fun. He put music on to suit us, entertained us and even made me a little flower bouquet for my birthday. Really impressed. Also the room we booked was great. Really big, clean and modern. I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Good value hotel in the heart of the city"

4
06/11/2016

Hotel is ideally situated in the heart of Sheffield but down a side road so surprisingly little noise from outside. If booked direct through Best Western website parking is free in the nearby NCP car park, reception staff give you a car parking ticket to use on your departure. We were given an upgrade on arrival so had a wonderfully spacious room and a queen-sized bed. Bed a little soft for my liking, and you needed to turn the sink taps several times before any water came out but they are the only niggles we had. We will be making regular trips to Sheffield over the next few years and this hotel will be top of my list for future stays.

"Another highly satisfying stay"

02/11/2016

Stayed for the 3rd time and never fails to satisfy us. Well done Cutlers! Opposite the O2 academy so perfectly situated for concerts and shopping. The hotel has recently been refurbished and looks much better.

"Awful hotel - will never stay again"

30/10/2016

I couldn't get into my usual hotel choices so I booked on line and paid upfront for 4 nights at this Best Western hotel based on good reviews I had read and price. What a huge disappointment. The first room I was allocated was very small and smelt mouldy. After some time spent trying to air the room I admitted defeat and asked to be moved. I was upgraded to a better room - but still experienced smells of a bad food when sitting at the desk by the window, bad drains coming from the bathroom (so bad I actually had to leave the room), really cold at night and could not locate the thermostat on the radiator, I would only watch ITV channel on the TV, and the best bit...housekeeping held the door open with a towel to service the room, but left 'mid service' leaving the door still lodged open and all of my possessions open to anyone who wanted to come in for the whole day - HUGE security risk. The only saving grace was the staff - they were all, without exception, friendly, and tried their very best to make my stay as good as it could be but the experience was beyond anything they could help with. And the breakfast was very good.

"Need new windows - too noisy and condensation"

4
30/10/2016

Stayed for 1 night to see a concert at city hall. Great location. Parking nearby overnight is expensive, but city parking usually is. The hotel is a bit tired and the beds are very squishy - more the feel of too many bodies and an old mattress than intentional. My issue is the 10k run - an admirable cause but the noise of the pa system was unbearable. The hotel should have warned us - lots of runners and supporters would've been very comfortable in our room but we didn't want waking up before 7am with sound checks nor listen to the hosts and music from 7.10am. it was so loud! I would book again but only after carefully checking if Sheffield Council have approved such an early event again.

"Please replace the beds!"

3
26/10/2016

I don't have particularly high expectations of a low cost, city centre hotel, but I hate soft beds where you sink into the middle. The room was clean and tidy although a bit small and everything about the hotel was fine - apart from the bed! Oh, and the fact that you only get breakfast for £8 if you book it in advance - otherwise they want £12+ for it. Bit disappointed about this, so we ended up going elsewhere for breakfast. The small street the hotel is on was quite noisy too, but then it is very central.

"Excellent Location for O2 Academy"

3
23/10/2016

Tucked round the corner, this is a perfect hotel for a visit to the O2 Academy, literally 2 mins walk. Clean, tidy, staff polite and helpful, ideal for what we wanted. The only draw back, here in Trip Advisor it states Free Parking and on our booking it said parking for 24 hrs is £6.50. However we asked at reception where to park, they told us where, and it cost £19.50!!!! So be aware of this. Overall though did the job

"Amazing staff"

5
22/10/2016

Id like to thank a member of your staff for wonderful service. Myself and friends stayed back in april and my friend left a purse behind. She hadn't realised at the time. I got a email telling me that it had been found. The staff member had gone back months through archives to try and get it back to its rightful owner. The booking was in my name so it wasn't a easy task i should imagine. 5 star service thankyou very much. The staff member was called elouise i think.

"Comfortable stay "

4
22/10/2016

Only stayed for one night for a night out. Central location with comfortable rooms. Clean and tidy and friendly reception staff. More pillows would have been good as for sharing there were only two small ones.

"Good central location."

4
22/10/2016

The hotel is in the city centre and handy for shops and restaurants. We were upgraded to an executive room which had a king size bed and large bathroom. We were at the back of the hotel and did not experience any noise. The staff were friendly and efficient. The cooked breakfast was just OK but there was plenty of choice for continental breakfast. We were there for 3 nights, but the toiletries and water were not replaced after the 1st night until we requested them. Overall a decent stay.

"Nicely appointed and very good value."

4
21/10/2016

Great central location, but quiet, the place was very tidy. My room was a little small - could not walk around the bed once the luggage stand was out (the reason for 4 rather than 5 stars). However, it was well appointed and the traditional bathroom was a good size and very clean. Bed comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was very good, with hot food prepared to order, rather than the more common buffet. Even had kippers on the menu, unusual these days, but very welcome

"Very comfortable and central, perfect for short overnight stay"

4
18/10/2016

Location is really great, close to train station, bus interchange, and main shopping areas, in addition to several cinemas and theatres. Both the bedroom and bathroom were very clean, and reasonably well equipped, but let down by not having any plug sockets near the bed and only on the opposite side of the room. I only booked a single bed but it was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in recently. Wifi was also very easy to connect to and very reliable. Reception staff were fairly friendly and welcoming if a little brisk. Like others have mentioned, the room I stayed in had high windows and a false ceiling, and one of the top windows could not be closed, a lot of outside noise could be heard. This didn't bother me as I always sleep with earplugs when away, and the noise was not so loud that the earplugs couldn't block it out. Temperature was alright considering, had it been particularly cold I would have mentioned the window to reception. Stayed one night before going in for a surgical procedure the next day, would book again in the future if only for the great location.

"Let down by a broken window"

3
17/10/2016

When I first ended my room it felt cold, but I put that down to the heating not being on. I had no time to deal with it - I was attending a conference and only had 15 minutes before I had to meet with colleagues. It was approaching midnight when I returned, so too late to do anything about the temperature. The duvet was thin and it was a cold night. I discovered the reason for the chill the next morning. A window high up and above the false ceiling was open. The catch was obviously faulty - broken duck tape showed how there had been an attempt to keep it shut in the past. I reported the fault to reception and also left a note for the maid. On my return in the early evening the window was still open. The receptionist came up with a pole to close it, but as soon as she exited the room, it fell open again. However staff were very keen to make me more comfortable and someone brought me a second duvet. So whilst the room itself was cold (and noisy from trams etc nearby) I was cosy and had a good night's sleep. The positive points to this hotel are that it is very central - two minutes walk from Arundel Gate car park (free to hotel residents - would have been £38 for two nights otherwise), shops, cathedral, Cutlers Hall etc and that the rooms are comfortable. Sockets are conveniently sited so you can see yourself in a mirror when blow-drying hair. There's a proper wardrobe in the room (so many places just have a hanger rail on the wall), a bar with a good size seating area and the breakfasts are good. There is no restaurant for lunch or dinner, but there is room service available and Sheffield has many other restaurants within easy walking distance. The staff are friendly and go the extra mile to help with a problem, but the management really needs to get a proper repair job done on that window!

"Poor"

2
17/10/2016

I recently visited the hotel and just like to say poor. From checking in to leaving, just wasn't good at all apart from location. First off when I arrived my room didn't come with an iron, when I asked for one at the reception desk, the person just tut and rolled the eyes. The second thing that happened was there was no air con... just a fan and it was like a sauna in the room all night. Third thing was I got in the shower then realised The only towel in the room was a small one.. just one towel and it was a hand one (See picture). When I came back after working all night I was told there was no room service so had to go and find somewhere to eat even though it details it in the menu that food is available 24/7 and this wasn't the case. To put it simply I won't be staying here again...

"Comfy bed"

3
11/10/2016

Not bad for a 3*, but littlethings could make it so much better. This hotel has the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in - absolute bliss. The room was compact but spacious, and the bathroom was nice (no bath) with modern facilities. This is the 1st hotel I've stayed in for years that doesn't have an iron and ironing board in the room. The room guide tells you to phone reception......which would have been easy if the phone had actually been connected!!!! I wonder whether people use room service so little that they've just put dummy phones inthe rooms.

"Sharp night at the Cutlers"

4
09/10/2016

We stayed here over the weekend. To be honest as 3 star establishments go this was pretty good. The staff were excellent and on hand to answer all our questions and queries in a polite and professional manner. The room itself was well appointed it had a lovely king size bed, double wardrobe, dress table and at the foot of the bed was an occasional table with a couple of chairs. The bathroom was lovely good fixtures and fittings. Elmis toiletries were available. The veiw was non existent as we were next to a alleyway. However this didnt cause any anixety. The hotel was great value and suited us perfectly for our short stay. Parking is a five minute walk cost of around £19 pounds per night but if you book direct with the hotel this is greatly reduced. Good nights sleep and enjoyable stay what more could you want! Its a steel... thats Sheffield Steel...

"Comfortable but Hot !!"

3
08/10/2016

Very central hotel and would be ideal for shopping or the Theatre / World snooker championships or just going out on the lash ! . Staff are first class and very friendly. The downs are ...I could have been baked alive in the room at the front if you had put some flour and eggs on me as the window cannot open and there is no air con. The bath tap wouldn't operate and so had to lever the mono tap for a shower which had very little pressure to it. Also can be a bit noisy with drunks and delivery vehicles but hey your in a city centre so it is what you can expect. Got discount ticket for NCP car park so only cost £7 so on to a chicken dinner with that if your travelling by car.

"Tiny room, quite a few faults and poor breakfast"

2
06/10/2016

Stayed in what can only be described as a bathroom with a bed in it. The sink was OUTSIDE the bathroom - and only the cold water tap worked. The shower flooded after each use, you couldn't open the windows in the room, and the TV seemed to not want to work after dark! I can see why the "quilt" was so thin, the bloody room was like a sauna. The reception staff were lovely and very helpful however, although at breakfast time the feeling was the kitchen staff didn't want you there for long, and there was a poor choice of breakfast foods. I had a pot of tea and poached eggs on toast, tea was a bit poor and the eggs tasted so strongly of vinegar, it was difficult to use the weak (despite 10 mins brewing) tea to wash them down. I went to the hotel midweek, paid almost double what my friend paid elsewhere and didn't manage to get a nights sleep due to being roasted alive. I think the hotel has taken en suite a bit too literal. Fix your rooms lol :)

04/10/2016

hotel was difficult to find of site parking is not good only one person serving in the bar and cooking the meals as well .the room was good.the location of breakfast room is not the best.we had to ask a taxi driver for directions to find the hotel then were told we had to drive to the nearest public car park to park the car no overnight security

"Good for Sheffield City Centre "

4
25/09/2016

I spent 4 nights here ,while working in the Meadowhall Shopping Centre. The reception area is really smart, and the check in was efficient. I had a room on the 2nd floor, and this being in the city centre and also fresher's week, there was noise from the street. The room was well decorated and adequate for my needs. The breakfast in the basement was of a good standard. If you book direct with the hotel, you get free parking at the nearby NCP car park, which otherwise is very expensive (£19 overnight! ).

"Let Down"

2
05/09/2016

I stayed at the Best Western Cutlers Hotel Fand was thoroughly disappointed by what I was greeted with. Upon arrival, everything seemed great and I mentioned to the receptionist that I wanted to order room service. I was told this was fine but when I checked the room service, I noticed that it ended at 9.30pm. This annoyed me as the hotel had been advertised as 24/7 room service and I was arriving late. As it was 9.15 pm, I called down and was told that room service had finished. I had to ask for the reason and was told that the chef had gone home early sick. If you advertise 24/7 room service, I would expect this to be available. While it did advertise that sandwiches were available 24/7 in the menu, I was not offered this when I phoned down. With this, I had to go out into the town centre to try and find something to eat. Nobody advised me of where to go and generally, I found the customer service terrible. The bed was on wheels, so everytime you moved, the bed came away from the wall and had to keep getting up to move it back. The bath was so narrow, I managed less than 5 minutes before just opting for the shower. The rooms were also a lot smaller than they looked on the internet, although this wasn't such a big deal to me as I was on my own, however if I had been there with somebody it would have been too small. There seemed to be a lot of things advertised that weren't in the room - dvd players, ipod docks, 'extra big double beds' - it was a normal size double bed. When I checked out on the Sunday, the receptionist didn't know what she was doing as she was training. I felt very sorry for her as she had been left there on her own and didn't even know how to check out properly. The room itself was, however, very clean and well looked after. It says that it is close to the train station, however I had to get a taxi to the hotel as it was too far. Overall, I didn't particularly rate my visit to the Best Western Cutlers Hotel and won't be visiting there again.

"Do something about ventilation "

3
04/09/2016

Room clean, staff very pleasant, breakfast fine. Room at front noisy, early morning bins day one, early morning drilling within hotel day two. Heat in room unacceptably high, no air con and ineffective fan only. This would put me off ever returning

"Great hotel , 5 star staff!"

5
30/08/2016

Last minute break at a good price, centrally sited near to all that Sheffield has to offer. We had read the mixed reviews so didn't expect the Ritz but we hadn't paid the Ritz prices. From the moment we arrived the staff were fabulous from Natalie and others on reception to the waiting and cleaning staff everyone was a credit to the hotel owners, friendly and very helpful nothing was too much trouble. We had taken bikes which they stored in the office, we had a problem with a bag going missing whilst checking in, Natalie sorted, credit to all the staff! Room was clean and well equipped and breakfast was freshly cooked and plentiful.

"So friendly "

29/08/2016

Spent the night in Sheffield to go shopping / drinking. Great central location! Amazingly friendly staff who couldn't have done more to help. Would definitely stay here again. Reception was covered 24/7. The room was well equipped with everything we needed. In the centre of town but very quiet. Short walk to everything.

I would like to say what great Front desk, Bar and breakfast room staff you are employing. Everyone we dealt with during our stay in Sheffield was friendly,, very helpful, we enjoyed chatting to them, thankyou Sheffield.! It was interestng to see but ithim\\nk the I will but I think in the furture I would avoid being in the centre of Sheffield on a Fridayor Saturday night.

"Nice hotel, good location but check the "free" car parking offer"

4
16/08/2016

Booked last year and was advised we would have free parking at nearby NCP car park. E-mail confirmation of booking stated free parking. On checking in, receptionist advised us that they would validate our ticket for free parking. On checking our receptionist gave us a validated ticket to use. When we tried to leave the car park, we were asked to pay a fee. Went back to the hotel and after discussions and showing the e-mail confirmation, she reluctantly gave us another validated ticket, this time it was free. Not the best way to end what was an enjoyable stay. Hotel is nice and modern although our room was small and rather cramped, and as it was at the front, rather noisy with refuse wagons emptying bins at 6.30 a.m. Breakfast was excellent, good choice of cereals, fruit etc and then full English with plenty of choice, coffee toast etc. Would recommend but check everything first!

"Very convenient and friendly."

A great central location, small and fairly basic but clean and very friendly. There was no air-conditioning in our room, which really would have helped - but only because we were there on the hottest day of the year to date, and probably wouldn't have been an issue out of peak summer months! There was no parking at the hotel, but if you park at the NCP carpark a 5 minute walk away, they give you a ticket to get out of the carpark for free at the end of your stay - worth about £20 a day. I accidentally left a camera SD card behind, and the hotel contacted me and sent it out. Thank you Maggie!

Recently stayed here for a stag do. Not a typical beer, clubbing stag do. I didn't expect a quality hotel. But 40 per person for double/twin rooms. £80 per room was a lot for the value. The shower was poor, the ceiling had a few dated water stains. Fortunately the draft in the room from the windows was lovely and I slept well. The mattress was a good mixture of soft and hard. I'd heard mixed reviews from rest of the stag. No major complaints. But I do feel the hotel has spent most of their money on the reception and bar area instead of the rooms. Location was great too. Staff were friendly. Considering the great location, you don't get a lot of 'yob drunks' shouting through the streets.

"Great staff, great food, great stay."

Very nice welcome, all staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel really clean everywhere, with a large, comfortable room and nice atmosphere. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very tasty, loved the waitress service, and the coffee!! This was our first visit to this hotel, but it will not be our last. Excellent.

We stayed here for tramlines as it was a central point and the location was a key factor. We booked through booking.com and had a lot of issues with the booking being cancelled and in the end I had to ring direct as nobody would tell me why they were just cancelling my booking. The hotel is a bit dated if I'm honest and let down by the rooms. We stayed in a double room that had a shower attached to the taps but yet no hook to hang the shower on so you constantly had to have one hand holding the shower up and then flooding the bathroom was also an issue. Water temperature and pressure in the shower is fire at best. Took 15 minutes to get hot water through and then it burns you. We also couldn't have a tap on and flush the toilet. It cut out. Bedroom was nice but very small. The room was also extremely hot however I think due to the current weather it's to be expected. There was a small fan in the room however it did not do much. Double bed was on wheels so you end up sliding around. As for breakfast this is something that I would avoid as it isn't worth it. 2 little bowls of fruit and some cereal. Toast is good but when you order breakfast you only get 1 of an item despite if you ask for more. So if I just wanted sausage and bacon that's all I get? Save your money and go to one of the places nearby. On a positive note the staff are really friendly and good at what they do. Really helpful with directions and pointing you in places to go. Overall I don't think I would stay here again if I'm honest. Biggest reason is the bathroom

Only had one night here but was impressed. Staff were all very friendly and happy to help. Room was compact but very clean and had everything you need. Would be more than happy to stay here again when next in Sheffield.

The team were welcoming and made me feel at ease during my stay, food was served quickly and the whole atmosphere of the hotel is pleasant with the typical best western touch! I would not hesitate to stay here again when on business, and as a single female I felt safe here

Conveniently situated in the centre of the city. Handy for the tram and buses if you need them. Tends to be a little noisy because of its location. Clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful. Breakfast was fine. Slight mix up on booking arrangements but this was sorted, although in the end it probably cost me more to book a double room than it would have done at the time of my original booking.

"OK - with some stand-out staff doing really well."

Hotel in middle of Sheffield. Free parking overnight in nearby NCP. Rooms fairly basic, but clean, serviced by the world's slowest lift. High point of the stay was service by Front Desk, in particular Mehilla. She's outstanding, and provides a welcome/ service worthy of a 5 star hotel. She welcomed us warmly, came out and showed us where to park. Was all smiles and nothing too much trouble. She's world-class. The room had 2 lamps, both not working. One no bulb at all.. the other blown. Mehilla again, sorted this quickly and professionally. Took breadkfast in the breadkfast room which was nicely presented and served. The bar is ok - but after a 4 hour drive on hottest day of the year, was looking forward to a cold beer... sadly the draft beer wasn't working, and the fridge bottled beers not cold, so ended up drinking a beer over ice,, which was novel. The public areas of the hotel were better than the room decor. Over the alley-way is a nice quirky boutique Curzon cinema in the old Yorkshire Bank building where there is a nice, cool rooftop bar open to public. Worth a visit. Overall a good visit, and you're getting what you pay for. Rooms a little tired, and v.basic. Excellent front-desk staff - and a warm welcome goes a long. long way... Well done.

Good location. Less than 10 mins from train station and easy to get around by foot. Welcome/reception good and room was fine. Very noisy in early morning due to traffic- lorries and refuse trucks. Not a restful place to stay. Breakfast ok but room very echoey. Staff talked loudly and continually. Not great service.

"Broken bed! "

16/06/2016

This hotel was a good price for B&B and a great location for the conference I was attending; walking distance to train station and to the university. I was late checking in so reception was quiet and quick service. The hotel seemed nice, was well decorated and clean as was my room. Small bathroom with shower and toilet and sink in the main room (little odd set up) but nice shower. On getting into bed I realised the bed was extremely uncomfortable with a large dip in the middle so deep it was almost like the bed was broken. I cannot believe that no one had complained before me or that the cleaners hadn't noticed the problem when making the bed. I rang reception immediately and was told the hotel was full so there was no other room to offer me. I was offered some compensation and the receptionist was empathetic but this doesn't make up for the lack of sleep I endured or the bad back the next day! It's disappointing from a chain such as best western.

"Top class customer service, great location!"

First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to two of the staff in this hotel who made our short break such a pleasure! Their names are : NATALIE who was the most helpful and friendly receptionist with a warm smile and heart, she was efficient and well organised,! Thumb up! The other one was IRA(?I think if i didn't lose my memory), She was full of happiness and always with a big smile. She is hard working, you can see her everywhere! She served yummy breakfast and top class customer service.Actually she had been working in the hotel business for a long long time but still love it. Hard for most of us, isn't it! As an experienced switchboard operator used to work in a 4 star hotel myself, I must say this hotel had found the stars they need to make this hotel shine! Pay rise for them if you can :)! My husband and I booked a Sunday night with this hotel through living social deal. It was a greaat deal, including free parking(in city centre overnight), free breakfast(Excellent choice, quality, and service)! it wasn't massive but it was big enough to have everything you need and it was right in the city centre, how much you can ask for?You can book through their website and get free parking. I did check the review here before I went, I must say some of them weren't so true. The hotel did need a bit attention, tlc, the hairdryer was a bit old, the handle for flashing toilet did come off, but they didn't bother me, the hotel did try their best to make the room and interior comfortable and modern, and they would fix problem asap. It was hard to keep up with everything while the business was a struggle itself. The most important thing is the staff around you, how they treat you and so do you. Anyway, I would recommend this hotel to anyone else. No.1 choice! Thank you very much for a wonderful memory!

A nice hotel well located for the city centre, there is an issue outside with the drains and some localised noise at night. The rooms are reasonable for what you pay and breakfast is excellent, the staff are helpful in all areas. The city itself is full of bars, coffee shops and has plenty of shopping plus a bit of culture as well. This weekend was a local food festival it was so vibrant and lively it went beyond our expectations.

Arrived and checked in promptly. The hotel provides validated parking with the dark park across the road ( Arundel gate ) for £7 for 24 hours. Hotel room clean and tidy... But stifling hot with only the use of a fan. We had breakfast the next morning and was very surprised and how nice it was, the decor was lovely! Full bellies and a happy stay. We found the bar a little expensive but hey, most are huh? I'd stay here agin, centrally located and reasonably quiet. ( aside from drunks struggling with their room key at 2am ) but aircon would have helped massively- the sun set on our side and the room was baking by 6pm

I have previously stayed in this hotel and was not overly impressed and so said I would not return. However, I could not get into other local hotels for a recent visit so decided to give this place another go. I'm glad I did. Check in was easy and the lady on the desk was very friendly and helpful. Room was fine for what I needed, was comfortable and I had no issues with using the free wifi or the tv. The breakfast room had been refurbished since my last visit and it is much better. I found breakfast and selection offered good and set me up well for the day. It was also much cheaper to stay here than other hotels given proximity to the centre. My stay this time was much better than last time and I would stay again.

"Nice but basic"

17/05/2016

Stayed here as great location for a gig at the o2 academy. Paid an excellent rate - must be the cheapest hotel I've ever stayed in (considering the quality) and was upgraded on arrival for being a BW rewards member. The room was very small which was OK as I was alone. However no air con and it got stuffy. Staff said if I wanted the window opening that they would have to do it as it was very high- like near the ceiling! There is a plug in fan. Comfy bed and room was clean which is one of the most important things. All staff were really friendly and the main decor and look of the hotel is really nice. I would stay here again but air con would be appreciated. It is basic but less clinical than other "basic" hotels. Still a 3* though

"Disappointing"

15/05/2016

This hotel has a central location and a great discount to park at arundel gate, but that's it. The room was small. Fortunately we weren't in the room much; there was no air conditioning but thankfully there was a fan. There wasn't a proper shower just an attachment on the bath but no where to hook the shower head which was awkward. WiFi was offered but you have to sign up and ours didn't work, neither did the TV. Bed was clean, but not enough for the price, won't be back

"Clean, great shower pressure"

05/05/2016

Clean , super comfortable bed, decent rooms a bit cramped with no view but suitable for downtown accommodation . The full English breakfast was hot and tasty, the basement dining was unusual but passable. I don't care for city living that's why this type of stay is not really my thing.

We stopped here to break the journey to Milton Keynes where we had an early appointment. Worst plan ever. Room dirty ,noisy, shower tray didn't empty if we had both had a shower the bathroom would have been flooded. Pooh coming back up the toilet when shower was trying to empty. Staff unhelpful and didn't know what he was doing. Pleased I only paid £50 if I had paid full rate would have asked for a refund. Not what I would have expected from a best western. Won't be stopping again

Bit disappointing for a best western hotel , service at breakfast wasn't very good no one to great you on entrance except the cleaner who looked miserable and didn't even acknowledge us , food looked like was ready to be cleared away had to ask for most of the stuff . My hubby needed the toilet whilst having breakfast and in the men's no light so he had to use his phone as a flashlight and then no toilet roll in there .overall was disappointing

We stayed at the Cutlers Best Western as it is a 2 minute walk to the Crucible. Staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The beds are comfortable but if your partner rolls over then you get bounced about a bit! We stayed on a Monday night and the bins were emptied on a Tuesday morning, which woke us up at 4am. There is not a great deal of choice for breakfast but we both ordered a full English which was cooked to order. Check in and out was very simple. We, also, tried to have dinner in the hotel, we rang to book a table and were later called back to be told that we would not be able to eat there as the chef had an accident and was at the walk in centre, which was an inconvenience but staff on reception helped us find alternative places to eat. The only thing that wold put me off staying here again was the noise from outside.

27/04/2016

Nice clean and modern hotel. Speakers in bathroom! What a time to be alive. Friendly and helpful staff. Car park is quite close. Hotel only a minute away from the crucible and few minutes away from pubs and the high street. Spot on location. Really happy. Although, it absolutely stinks just outside the hotel. Sewage or rotting waste. Which is a pity. Will be using this hotel again, next year.

"Well placed, but street noise at weekend"

3
26/04/2016

Centrally located off main street, but flanked by narrow lanes which meant that group which stopped to "chat" in early hours of Saturday morning woke me up. Room itself comfortable and warm; ensuite small but fine. Uninspired English "full" breakfast - sausage inedible - in semi-basement. Provided soya milk at first breakfast, but none left for second one.

"Small room, rubbish breakfast, broken window, broken keycard"

25/04/2016

I stayed for 1 night, Saturday 23rd April 2016. I was on my own, the room was no bigger than a broom cupboard right next to the staff room so I had noise all night. The window in the bathroom was broken, it had a huge crack in it from ceiling to base, and was stuck together with sellotape! The TV only worked on one channel and the remote control didn't work at all. The keycard worked once, and I had to go back to reception to get a replacement. The room was also very hot with windows at the very top which were unreachable. Reception told me when I checked in that if I needed to open or close the windows I would need to contact them for the staff to do it, but that's hardly convenient in the middle of the night. I paid £9.95 for breakfast, but it was very poor. The breakfast room was down a steep flight of stairs (lift didn't go down there) so awful for the less mobile. I sat down at a table, waited 10 minutes and a waitress came over and took my order for the cooked breakfast. The sausage (just the one) was slightly brown on one side but appeared raw, there was one slice of bacon, one spoonful of mushrooms and one spoonful of scrambled eggs. I didn't order the other alternatives (hash brown, black pudding) but I didn't seem to get more of the others to compensate. The continental breakfast was worse: no croissant, pastries or decent bread. Just white or brown bread, a couple of yoghurts and tinned orange segments or tinned grapefruit, with a very poor range of cereals. The fruit juice was almost empty, and I arrived when breakfast opened at 8am (there was one other table being used) so there was no excuse not to have all juice containers full. No car park near the hotel (I had to pay an extra £15 for 24 hours at a nearby car park), so all in all I was pleased to leave. Give me a premier inn anytime over this rubbish! Only thing that worked: free wifi!

21/04/2016

My husband and I stayed here whilst visiting Sheffield for the snooker championships. The hotel was located just a few footsteps from the Crucible theatre and we were able to mingle in amongst the players and BBC team which was fantastic. The staff in the hotel were very welcoming and helpful. The room was spotless and spacious. The bed had feather pillows which to me was annoying but for only one night I did not mind. The only two problems with this hotel were the slow lift and breakfast. The lift would take an eternity to get you to reception or your floor. The breakfast was very disappointing and not worth waiting for. The breakfast bar is located in the basement and whereas most hotels offer a buffet breakfast this takes your order for a full english. When it arrived there was only one fried egg and the tomato had been covered in either pepper or mixed herbs, the beans had been microwaved and the bacon was very crunch, I felt like Gordon Ramsay reviewing it when it came. There were only sugar cubes on offer for cereal which is not to my taste and the orange juice ran out and appeared not to be refilled. We have booked to return next year but will not have breakfast there.

"Fantastic service and lovely room!"

19/04/2016

I called en route for directions to the car park and the reception lady was super helpful, upon arrival we receive fantastic service and had been upgraded (as it was my partners birthday), it made his day even more special. The room was clean, the bed was a really good size. Everything met my expectations. The location was central, the car park that the hotel uses was across the road. Great! I would definitely stay here again!

"Not a bad place to stay "

16/04/2016

We stayed here in April 2016 whilst at the snooker at the Crucible Theatre and to set the tone it was absolutely ok. The location in theatre land is splendid, it is literally 75 meters door to door from the crucible so that's a big plus. It is also only a ten minute walk from the railway station. Check-in was swift and efficient and there are 4 floors each with around 11 rooms. Upon entering the room we were impressed, it was roomy, light and airy with a king size bed. The facilities were fine, bath, sink, phone, kettle and tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, safe, flat screen tv and a clock radio. The staff were very helpful when we realised we had forgot our comb and facecloth and they provided complimentary replacements delivered to our room which was great service. Downsides: it's a bit cruel to mention noise as it is in a city centre location so you are bound to hear music and bearded 20-something alpha males shouting at each other in a street in many cities. There was no obvious way to turn the bathroom light off which was a bit weird and the breakfast.... Err it is ok, it is a set menu with buffet cereals and toast but the cook had seasoned the sausages and tomato with large doses of ground black pepper which was very random and not appreciated, the rest was ok though but Starbucks was raided afterwards for another coffee and a bacon roll. For us, the Cutlers is a decent hotel and we will stay here again next year as its location and service is splendid. We are a bit picky on breakfasts so apologies to the hotel, they're always going to be an acquired taste but hide that pepper please!

Very disappointed stay. Receptionist lovely and helpful when we asked to change room. Original so small you could not walk around bed. Moved to King size room this must mean bed size only. Still no room to walk round bed. Pushed it away from window only to reveal a colossal amount of fluff and dust, moved it back quickly! Room had a stale smell and was dated. Too hot, no ventilation, no thermostat. Bathroom shabby, toilet seat broken at hinges and looked unhygenic, fan not working, sink slow to drain, heated towel rail not working. Only one small shampoo and one shower gel for two of us for a four night stay. Breakfast room sparse and unwelcoming. Lovely waitress though. Good English breakfast choice but Continental breakfast was the worst I have ever seen. Would have liked a jug of coffee on table rather than a cup poured by waitress every time I wanted a refill. Have used this hotel before but it seems to have gone downhill. Will not be using it again. I would have expected more for its star rating.

I stayed here last night. (April 1st) fir my birthday. The hotel had kindly given me a free upgrade with it being my birthday. The room I have no complaints. Comfy and we didn't hear any outside noise. My only complaint is my room key card. I had to get it changed 4 times. It would work then I'd leave the room and go back and it yet again wouldn't work. So back to reception again. The receptionist was lovely and apologised. I was also offered choice of 2 other rooms. I decided to keep my room as my husband would be staying in so I wouldn't have a problem getting in later after a night out. When I arrived back the night Porter had a key ready for me anyway. Really nice guy. We had breakfast again no complaints. All in all we had a good stay and for the price we paid we enjoyed it.

Stayed on a Sunday night as got a living social offer at £39 for room with breakfast so great offer. Checked in 1.45pm and went up to room 108 but just started to be cleaned so no where near ready so reception gave us room 302 which seemed a bigger space with newly refreshed bathroom and the biggest bed ever. Next morning confusion with breakfast times as it was bank holiday Monday so open until 10.30am but all cleared up at 9.50am so had to go to reception which sorted problem out and went back to breakfast area where we waited 20 minutes for cooked breakfast which was delicious. Just a few hiccups which were promptly dealt with by happy staff so made our stay enjoyable.

I booked here for my friends birthday for a night out in Sheffield. We first arrived, checked in, the receptionist was friendly and welcoming. They found out it was my friends birthday and gave us tickets for free entry to a club with was lovely of them! To be honest we weren't expecting much as some of us have stayed in BWs before and weren't great. The room was lovely, spacious and very clean. We had one big double and two singles. The bathroom was big and clean too. I had gone down to the bar to order some bubbly to the room and the big cupcakes I had bought to bring up, they bought them all light with flowers and sang happy birthday, was lovely of them. On check out we gave our luggage in at reception to go and get some breakfast and to do some shopping, the lady gave us raffle tickets to identify our bags, coming back we picked up our suitcases and she never checked the raffle tickets. We were on the train home and I get a phone call from the hotel, they had given my friend then wrong suitcase, although it was an annoying situation they quickly sorted it out and someone delivered her suitcase and collected the wrong one the same day. Location was fantastic, as close to the city centre, literally couple of minutes walk but it's in a quite side street so you don't hear any noise! Me and friends would definitely go back! Thank you for the great stay

I booked a single room with Best Western Cutlers Hotel in Sheffield through a booking website. It was my first time with BW. I work and live in Durham but every Sunday I make the journey down to spend the day with my daughter. I checked in fine on the dirst of January and was waiting for my daughter to meet me in the bar area. After a quick drink we got up and made for the room. I was gona have a shower and freshen up before taking my daughter out and about maybe buy her a few things and have a meal. As soon as we got up the receptionist told us only one person was permited in the room because it was a single room. I calmly explained that there would be one person staying for the night, only me, so only one person would be spending the night in the room. I also said I'm gonna drop my bag off in the room and and then head out. It must have been lees than 5 mins after we entered the room when phone rang. I had to come out the bathroom to pick it up only for the receptionit to ask me if daughter had left the room yet. I tried to eplain again that there would be only one person staying in the room and that we would go out as soon as I could get ready. The receptionist said she couldn't be in my room at all and she would have to wait for me in the lobby area. I thought it was outrageous. There and then left the room. On our way out she offered us a double bedroom at no extra cost and kept on saying it's because I have a child. If it wasn't for my daughter I wouldn't be there on the first place. Then she asked for ID, which she hadn't first time around. Then asked to photocopy it. Our privacy was invaded and the whole experience was surreal. I've used many hotels and never encountered anything like it.

A pleasant little hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms small but comfortable, and a very pleasant restaurant/bar area with a good choice of beers and nicely cooked food. Hard to find on a satnav; you have to set it for the NCP and walk across the road.

This hotel is situated up a side street in Sheffield town centre. Stayed one night here. Check-in was friendly & efficient. The room was tastefully decorated in a kind of art deco style, but it was very small, with very little space around the bed. The bathroom on the other hand was large. The bathroom fittings were beautifully clean. The room was rather warm. There is no air conditioning; the windows in the room can be opened but are rather high up so I had to stand on tip-toe on the table and hit the handle with the guest information folder to open and close them(!). The room was very clean. There is an electric kettle and plentiful supplies of coffee and tea. I usually avoid town centre hotels as I am a light sleeper, but on the (midweek) night I stayed it was very quiet. Breakfast was excellent - full cooked breakfast, plus toast and a selection of fruit & cereals. Because I consented to enroll on BW's loyalty card scheme, I got this room & breakfast for less than £30. By any standards that is phenomenal value for money for a decent hotel in the centre of a major city. The hotel has lots of features that one normally finds in upmarket hotels rather than in budget chain places, such as room service, a business centre etc. This is a really nice place that puts you right in the heart of Sheffield's town centre (a cinema, main shopping streets, Crucible etc are all a minute or two's walk outside the front door). My only complaint was that the WiFi did not work and also the computer that the hotel provides in the lobby area could not access the internet and the front desk were not able to fix the problem. Otherwise my stay would definitely have rated 5 stars. If business brings me back to Sheffield town centre this hotel will be top of my list.

Never stayed in a best Western before but after this experience I definitely would again. The building from the outside does nothing to say what's on the inside. Very well decorated with a contemporary feel to it but it still has a homely quality. All the staff I encountered were friendly and professional from front of house to the bar team. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. The room itself was small but again well decorated with a really smart en suite. It had everything I needed. And to say it's a city centre hotel and my stay was on a Saturday night it the hotel was so quiet. I never heard a peep all night which was great considering I had to be up at 6am the following morning. I did miss breakfast as I was rushing but the nice guy on front of house even offered to make me a takeout breakfast. Excellent service all round and I'd highly recommend this hotel. Will definite be coming back! Sorry my pictures don't do it justice.

We stayed for 1 night as a couple, as part of a groupon. On arrival, staff were friendly and efficient. The room was 111 and backed onto a back street. On entering the room there was a not so nice smell in the room, but the bathroom was ok. Unfortunately there was no way of opening any Windows ??. We went and brought an air freshener, problem solved. The room was small!! enough room around the bed for one to walk but that was it! Fine for one night! Lovely sized bathroom! Prob bigger than needed! Asked for extra pillows they were brought within 15 mins. The room was clean to the eye, on leaving I removed my black hairdryer case from the bottom shelf of the dressing table and it was covered in thick dust. Prob just missed that one. ?? Hotel booked us a taxi to a local restaurant, again very helpful!! 5-10 min taxi ride absolutely worth a visit, beautiful tasty food. Surf and turf!! ?? Breakfast was lovely!! Lots of choice, would make most things if you asked! Excellent service!! Well cooked, and staff were friendly and efficient. Well done! We were supposed to receive a bottle of prosecco, but didn't. Not the end of the world, suppose I could have asked, but didn't. The nearest car park is a short stroll. And expensive, but it is very central in the town so you expect it. The hotel did validate our token so it was reduced to £6.80 instead of £18 so happy with that. Overall, we'd stay again, if the price was right! We think we'd have been disappointed if we'd paid full price. Staff were friendly and professional.

I wanted somewhere to stay that was centrally located in Sheffield that was affordable. I booked one night in this Best Western as it was the cheapest with decent reviews. It surpassed most of my expectations! I arrived very late (midnight) but had no problems with check in. Staff were polite, it was very clean and comfortable. I even had a bath which was unexpected. My only complaint was the heat of the rooms, I couldn't open the window and it was a bit too hot. This didn't get in the way of a good night's sleep though. I was too tired to try and get someone to sort it out. This did not really affect my stay though. Far better than my usual budget accommodation and I'd definitely use the Best Western chain again.

23/02/2016

This looked like the perfect location, close to business site and local restaurants. Got a spacious room on the top floor, with great views across Sheffield from my 2 Windows. The room is comfortable and has all the usual amenities, including biscuits!! Staff are friendly, the restaurant is small, I had nachos, without the sour cream, and Jamaican jerk wings...tasty but not very jerk. Luckily there are loads of other eateries close by. My only problem was no heating in the bathroom which I reported twice unfortunately it seems that mixed messages meant the wrong radiator was 'fixed'! Breakfast was standard fare well cooked, and really friendly staff.

We booked a family room as there was 3 of us. Room was nice and big and clean. Double bed were really big (6ft+) & very comfortable. Bathroom really big - had enough room for separate shower? Only odd thing is it had a suspended ceiling with tiles and not plasterboard ceiling !! Great room and great value Staff really friendly. Also, if you book yourself online you get to park in the Arundel NCP for free. Other hotels charge you for parking All highly recommended

"Decent hotel with good access to Sheffield city centre"

We enjoyed our stay, exceptionally good value for money, good breakfast, comfortable though small room. The bad was rather too soft and bouncy. Access to the city centre is extremely good, a really great cinema, the Curzon just across the road, showing a wide range of films, on 5 (?) different screens.

Stayed for the night 13th February. From check in to check out the service and room was fantastic. Quiet large rooms with a massive bed and large bathroom made the stay very comfortable, breakfast was very tasty and filling too. The manager and the night porter were most helpful and obliging. I will be using this hotel again and would not hesitate to recommend it. Many thanks Jim

Pros: - Located in the heart of Sheffield city centre, close to everything. - Stayed in a single room which was surprisingly spacious and well accommodated, bed was very comfy. (Room 211) - Didn't have much interaction with the staff but they seemed friendly and informative. - Reasonable price for room. Cons: - Room was incredibly hot and no way to adjust the room temperature, had to call reception to come and open the windows as they are high up, this allowed all the noise from the busy streets near by which effected my nights sleep. - Wifi connection was almost non existent. I gave up with it in the end. - I didn't eat breakfast as i thought £8 per person was very pricey, especially when there's so many other cafes & restaurants near by which are much cheaper. - Lift was out of order, you had to go up 2 flights of stairs before you even get to the 1st floor (I stayed on the 2nd) slightly inconvenient with heavy bags. I would choose to stay elsewhere next time I'm visiting Sheffield, mainly due to the uncomfortable room temperature and poor wifi.

Nice hotel, in a side street off the city centre. Shops and supermarkets right around the corner and a bus stop nearby. The personnel in the hotel is friendly. I have not tried the breakfast due to the fact that the Starbucks and Nero Coffee were just a 2 min walk. Tip: a nice sushi place just 60yds across the street!

Stayed after a gig in town, nice hotel with friendly staff would definatly stay another time when i'm in the area. Was supposed to stay elsewhere but the room was not available on us getting there so they put us up here instead and i was very happy.

We stayed here last Friday on a deal. I emailed them advising the stay was for our Birthdays & they replied within hours advising they had upgraded us to a executive room, I was really happy with this. The deal we had included a bottle of Prosecco on arrival, however they had none left. This wasn't a problem, we were given a bottle of wine instead & a free drink at the bar :-) I loved the bar man he was really friendly. The only two things that let our stay down was breakfast & car parking. Firstly we decided we didn't want the full English so asked for Poached eggs with bacon & toast instead. What we got was simply one egg & one slice of bacon. I did expect at least a couple of slices, maybe we should have stated that. Also we gave the car parking token to reception, but leaving the car park we were still charged £6.80 I know this is cheaper than if we had to pay full but others didn't have to pay anything. That said we both still really enjoyed our stay. Most of the staff are really friendly & our room was spot on, I would recommend.

We stayed here for one night at the end of January. The hotel is in a great central location. The staff were very friendly especially the lady on the reception who was lovely, she even offered to bring me some green tea bags from her home so I could have one in the morning. The room was quite small but had everything you needed and was very clean. The only downside was the bed was too soft and the mattress needed replacing as you could feel the springs. We were on the third floor and it was quiet enough. The breakfast was cooked fresh to order and was very tasty. Could do with a bit of updating but it's a good place at a reasonable price in a central location and welcoming staff would go back.

very good value apart from the car park issue - a walk from the hotel everything else was good if parking had not been free it would be very expensive. however, the hotel had free parking in the price paid so this was very good value for city centre location

"Central and comfortable"

08/02/2016

I stayed for two nights. I asked for a quiet room on an upper floor. Other reviews had suggested there could be some noise (I found the hotel very quiet and there was very little noise from outside) and that the list was slow (it is a bit slow - but it really didn't matter). My room was clean and comfortable - it had all that I needed for my stay. The bathroom was absolutely fine, although some may prefer a shower cubicle to a shower over the bath. Breakfast was excellent, served in a newly refurbished breakfast room on the lower ground floor. Plenty of choice and food freshly cooked. I will happily stay again. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful.

"There must be better options"

31/01/2016

I used this hotel for a brief overnight stay while dropping my son back to University. A good journey and a lot of work done I wanted a comfortable rest and later a good nights sleep. The room was tiny, the decor so so dated. The noise from the pedestrian street was so loud I could hear actual conversations. The shower was plumbed the wrong way round so I stood for ages waiting for hot water. I had to leave early and was told breakfast wasn't until 8am. However as I left apparently there is a continental breakfast served from 6. Nice enough staff but not one to reccomend

good overnight hotel, comfortable & well situated for restaurants, staff were helpful, breakfast was very good in downstairs breakfast room. did not use bar but looked well appointed, free parking in NCP carpark which was an added bonus. Would stay there again in travelling to Sheffield

I've stayed in a couple of Best Western hotels and generally they tend to be OK but do all seem in need of updating. The one in George Street is centrally located so useful for city access without having to drive everywhere. Parking is in the Arndel car park opposite and this is free with the hotel stay, but be sure to let the receptionist know as they give you a token to replace the one collected when you park. The reception staff were very helpful and pleasant which is really a key indicator when using a hotel (in my opinion - staff can make or break a venue). The room was a little small but adequately equipped, though a little on the chilly side, and I'm not one who really feels the cold. Breakfast was okay, served in the basement. Overall an average hotel but in a food location and with nice staff. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Sheffield who does not wish to break the bank.

"Small but welcoming"

21/01/2016

This hotel is tucked away out of sight down a narrow street in the heart of Sheffield. Our room was small but very clean and was all we needed for our one night stay although that night being Saturday there was some noise from late night revellers. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful and we included breakfast with our booking which was good. I would say it was the perfect spot for a one night stay - parking nearby and in the heart of the city. Our only slight problem was that the mattress was a little soft for our tastes and the bed moved away from the wall on its castors when we sat up.

"High Street Sheffield"

18/01/2016

Excellent location a few steps away from Sheffield High Street, ideal for one night in City Centre. Reception staff very friendly and Breakfast was excellent, Full English cooked to order rather than the usual buffet. For the price we paid, we thought it was excellent value for money. Bar area pleasant. Room clean and comfortable. On the downside, room was quite small and a little old fashioned (especially the hand held shower over bath). Only real issue was the acoustics were poor and we could hear very clearly the neighbouring room, every snore and cough. Slightly marred an otherwise very good and very good value stay.

"A bad experience"

18/01/2016

I booked a double room for a night out in Sheffield, the hotel was picked for its central location. Sadly the central location was the only plus point!! The lift was small and claustrophobic, in the time it took to arrive we could have walked to our room, when it did it arrive it slowly chugged its way to our level. The room was extremely small, nothing like the photos to entice you in. The lighting in the room was poor, the heating was overwhelming, the TV wanted to switch itself off every time we tried to turn it on and the shower pot handle came off whilst showering and smacked my leg!! The whole experience was topped off with no sleep due to an all night party across the road, which finished at 8am. When reported to reception we were greeted with 'I will pass on your comments and someone will email you', no email has been received!! Safe to safe we won't be coming back

"Nice Place but not easy to find"

3
15/01/2016

This hotel is tucked away and not that easy to find, I was lucky enough to be with someone who had stayed before. The staff were friendly enough but my room was not ready when I arrived so I had to wait for the cleaning staff to get me when I could go in. The room was very hot with no temperature controls but I managed to get the cleaner to open a window before she left. It was nice to actually get a single room that was just a single room and not just me in a double room. I had everything I needed and got a good nights sleep and a really good breakfast the next morning before I left. So it did the job but I don't now if I would stay again.

Cutlers hotel was in the heart of the city, easily accessible for transport & shopping needs. Rooms were comfortable and clean good Wi-Fi connection, clean separate shower toilet facilities. Staff were helpful and friendly.

"Helpful, friendly and pleasant staff. Clean but a little outdated room."

10/01/2016

Me and my partner chose to stay here as we needed somewhere to stay in the town centre at short notice. We arrived in the evening to be greeted by a very friendly John Paul. Although our room was supposed to have a double bed we soon realised it was actually two singles that had been put together. Although no real problem I felt we'd been cheated a little. The room was of a nice size and was clean and tidy. My only gripe was at night, we seemed to be situated near the washing room and so there was a constant whirring of washing machines throughout the night. All in all it was a pleasant stay, I wish we had made breakfast as the bar and the mezzanine looked very cosy.

"Plain horrible from every point of view"

08/01/2016

This hotel is not within the Best Western Standards at all. Staff was all foreign and barely spoke English, room was small and overheated and no controls for the heating anywhere. We ended up opening the window but the noise from garbage trucks collection and people woke us up several times. The sink was not in the washroom but in the bedroom instead and the shower was minuscule. Do not go here it is not worth the money! Parking is across the street but they are so disorganized that they do not have any maps and becAuse of the language barriers it took us two trips to find it!

08/01/2016

This hotel is well located in the centre of town, very close to the restaurants, cinemas, theatres and buildings of interest. Our en suite room was clean, comfortable and well appointed and we spent a very comfortable two nights there. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but the breakfast, served in the Breakfast Room was excellent, with plenty of choice and was perfectly cooked. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. As far as cost is concerned, the deal we had was an absolute bargain. The only downside I experienced was that the free wi-fi was slow and unreliable - they really must fix this! However, If ever I return to Sheffield I know where I will be staying!!

I must say that I saw the bar being rebuilt and saw changes in staff whilst on my long stay working in Sheffield. The staff are very friendly and make you feel like part off the family there. If you have a problem during your stay the manageress will do everything in powers to make you happy (thank you ??) The staff (Girls you know who you are) on the desk are very professional and good at what they do. The bar staff are brilliant ( ?? Lisa I will miss your chats putting the world to rights) and if you eat there the chef can cater for your special tastes try the cheesey chips with chilli pieces topped off with spicy chicken wings. My personal favourite ?? Thank you all for making this southern shandy drinking softie welcome up north ??????

18/12/2015

A short cab journey brought me to the Best Western Cutlers Hotel on George Street in Sheffield. The receptionist was friendly and soon I was checked in to my room (room 203 on the second floor). The elevator was slow and I wished I'd taken to the stairs instead, but soon it arrived with a dull thud and I quickly found my room. Room 203 was fine: a huge bed (two singles pushed together) a decent bathroom with proper taps – none of that designer rubbish offered by so many hotels, but proper taps with 'hot' and 'cold' written on them AND a plug on the end of a chain. Perfect! I wouldn't have to spend hours working out which was hot and which was cold and I wouldn't need a degree in mechanical engineering to figure out how to depress the plug and stop the water from leaving the sink. WiFi was free, there was a flatscreen television on the wall – after dinner with a colleague in Bill's near Millennium Square I watched the BBC news – and then, after a broken night (I rarely sleep well in hotels) I began to look forward to the breakfast room, which was located in the basement. I'm so glad I didn't have dinner in the hotel's restaurant because it completely lacked atmosphere and, because of this, there was nobody else dining there. Bill's provided much-needed hubbub, and by that I mean other diners, people, music, laughter, everything that my hotel restaurant lacked. I was hoping that the hotel breakfast would deliver something special, but it didn't. For a start the room was horribly bright and white and there were supposedly 'trendy' distressed park benches and tables and a meagre self-service option at the far end of the room. Brightness of this magnitude simply doesn't work in a hotel breakfast room, in my opinion. It was like being in the garden furniture section of a large garden centre – not an ideal place to enjoy the first meal of the day. Boxed cereal, tinned fruit and a banana-flavoured yoghurt: that was the offering in front of me, but a waitress eventually appeared and took my order from a small menu on the table: scrambled egg, toast and fried mushrooms. I realised that fried mushrooms were no longer my thing. I don't mind them raw in a salad or as part of, say, a cheese salad sandwich, but fried: ugh! Greasy and slippery mushrooms are simply not pleasant. The most irksome thing about the breakfast was a dirty cereal bowl. Without my glasses on I mistook the dried food stuck on the inside of the bowl for some kind of logo – how foolish and stupid am I? It turned out to be dried food. Unfortunately I had already tipped my bran flakes into the bowl and added the milk, so I persevered, but vowed to check everything else that came my way. Fortunately it was a one-off mistake, but it made me feel doubly relieved that I had opted for Bill's last night and not the hotel restaurant. In fact, I should have gone to Bill's for breakfast. Right now, rather than use my own lap top in the room, I am sitting at a wooden table just off the main staircase using the hotel's computer (a PC). Other than the aforementioned dirty bowl, the Cutlers Hotel was pleasant. I get the feeling that it was once an office building, and not a purpose-built hotel, as the main staircase screamed 'office block'. There's a large stained glass window that runs from the top to the bottom of the main stairwell and a carpet matching the window's design. This isn't a 'grand hotel' but it's fairly pleasant, and bang in the centre of Sheffield. Despite its ultra-central location, it's quiet and peaceful and 'off the beaten track' but only minutes on foot from the Crucible Theatre and Millennium Square where all the decent restaurants are to be found: Cosmo, Smoke Barbecue, Piccolino's, Cafe Rouge, Brown's, Pizza Express and, of course, Bill's.

"Quaint and friendly"

15/12/2015

The Best Western Cutlers is tucked away from the main roads of Sheffield but still in the centre of the city a stones throw from The Crucible. The rooms aren't particular big and the fixtures are traditional. However everything is clean and well maintained. Some rooms only have a shower rather then a bath so worth checking if you have a preference. Service is excellent. The receptionists are attentive and friendly with a quick check in and check out. The breakfast is superb. There is buffet fruit etc, but tea, coffee, toast and cooked breakfast are all made to order. Which I prefer as gives a more personal touch. The staff at breakfast are friendly and happy to attend to your request quickly and happily. Food is also of a high quality. Would have got 5 stars had the rooms been a little bigger. But still one of my top hotels in Sheffield.

"Worth 1 more chance"

14/12/2015

So as I like to start I have been around the block in Sheffield / Rotherham - 2 years worth of hotel receipts don't lie. This is my second stay here and couldn't be more different. Reasons I like the place: Great location - right in the middle of town, hidden away yet a stones throw from the bustle. Parking - book through the hotel and is free. This in Sheffield is like rocking horse sh... Staff - Very eager to please and make convo. They actually try to do their job well unlike some places. Professional. Rooms - I have problems here I will go into but in the general they are very clean and well finished. Furniture is polished wood (as opposed to plastic or laminated) and bathrooms are high end but not luxurious. Prices - I like to check this place as every now and then their rooms are a bargain but do fluctuate. It is the city center so this I cannot begrudge. Sounds great. In more detail then: The building is down a back alley by the curzon cinema. This is ok as it offers some seclusion but it does mean any noise echoes up and can be heard in your room if your windows are that side. Not great. It has been undergoing renovations to the main stairway now complete but I think modernization needs to continue as small (but non essential) areas still show their age such as glossy paint or doors. Some rooms are small but cosy and the windows large - great views of the cinema but shutting them at the top requires some acrobatics and unorthodox use of furniture. And the noise outside only drops. This room however ticked all the other boxes for a single traveler and everything worked well. The cheapest rooms are at the very top (4th floor, slowest lift in the world stairs stop at 3rd) and are bigger but with dated, ugly ceilings (I can live with that) and smaller windows. Unfortunately my experience was short lived as turning on the TV I found I had no signal as the RF plug was just a hole in the side where the receiver box was hanging. A little insisting I didn't want this fixed (how would that be achieved?) and I was moved to a superior room. Superior room - No ugly ceiling, bigger. T.V. worked, but the remote doesn't or only barely enough to switch it on. Small issue but big frustration. Grabbed a book and went for a bath (only the superior rooms seem to have baths) but the mixer didn't work. I had to run a shower with the plug in. Tried to warm the towels but the radiators don't have enough clearance for the thermostat to turn - literally a section of tile had been removed to no effect. The main radiator just refused to go beyond tepid and I could not get any heat out of either. No noise from the alley but a couple were arguing for about 2 hours in the hall / their room and I heard every word. Shame I couldn't turn the telly up. Beds have a tendency to be too soft and sag giving a aching back. despite it being a king bed it's still just two singles together which always annoys me but at least it meant 1 mattress was harder than the other. The pillows are huge but also too soft, this may be my issue as I'd compare them to the pillows at the holiday inn express where I got no sleep but which is nice enough otherwise. They were clean and fresh. SO one good experience, one pretty poor (and I still have to stay tonight again) but I got it at a good price. I may stay here again as I like the location / parking but I prefer the metropolitan for city stays if comparably priced .

"A small surprise"

Lurking down a rather salubrious alleyway of one of Sheffield's main shopping streets is this hotel. I got rather a good deal here on a hotel booking site and I was staying in Sheffield prior to visiting family in South Yorkshire. without breakfast I got a ridiculously low rate, but then when I did find my room it was just an oversize broom cupboard. It's a long long time since I've slept in a single bed, funnily enough it wasn't that much of a problem. Your fellow feline traveller would have no worry about being swung around here, as they quite simply isn't room to do so. Having said that the space is reasonably well organised, and although the toilet and shower room is such a tight fit that the sink is actually located down the other end of the bedroom, for a one night stay it's absolutely capable with. The staff were friendly, although the location of the hotel wasn't in the most well lit and welcoming places. If you're just in Sheffield for a quick business trip and funding your accommodation yourself, then the rate here is considerably cheaper than the nearby Novotel, so why not give it a try

Stayed at hotel for a Christmas party nearby Only stayed one night but location is close to all amenities and was easy to find. Rooms were good and very clean I had a problem with my room but as it occurred in the early hours I left it till the morning to raise the issue Spoke to Nichola Lucas who was the duty manager and the issue was sorted in seconds. I have to give credit to Nichola for her help and hope best western credit her for a job well done

We were staying for the weekend as my son was competing at Ponds Forge. This meant that we need an earlier breakfast than their usual 8AM for the weekend. The night porter sorted out a selection of cerals which did the trick. The hotel offers free use of the NCP Arundel gate car park which is only round the corner and is only a five minute walk to the pool

Great location!!! Very close to Sheffield Academy, crucible, lyceum and city hall theatres. Actually in the city centre! Secure parking in multistorey car park approx 150m away. We stayed on a 2 night b&b deal which I thought was good value for the location £148 Staff were very good friendly and helpful. Room 1 (405) was clean but dated we moved from this room because on a very windy stormy evening the room was cold with the curtains blowing. Our second room (306) was much warmer but slightly smaller and only had a hand held shower over the bath - not normal for a hotel in these modern times!! Breakfast was pretty good but the breakfast room felt unwelcoming (decor not staff) I would stop here again, it is clean reasonably priced and a fantastic location.

"Great staff"

23/11/2015

Not easiest to find but worth it. Central but quiet. Pleasant room. Helpful staff. I went with Tesco vouchers so excellent value. Room and communal areas look recently re-decorated. Access to breakfast down steep stairs so may be a concern for some

"Great location but noisy outside "

4
15/11/2015

Small room but spotless although no shower just a bath and hand held device. Our room smelt of curry the whole time but not offensive and presumed it was coming from outside. Staff super helpful especially with parking etc as no car park. Very noisy outside in alleys with late night drinker but nowt they can do about that. Reason for rating?? £54 for two for a night in a super clean room and the good staff.

The cutlers is part of a chain , so don't expect too much. However. I enjoyed my night there. I got upgraded to a king size room. ( I think this was a Booking. Com thing) but I didn't enquire. So the room was fine. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was very nice. But the bad bits spoiled it a bit. We had a room at the front of the hotel and during the early hours, the youth of Sheffield decided to perform outside the window. The thing to watch out for here, is that the hotel was no car park. Local parking will cost £18.20. Which adds to your final bill. If you book direct through the hotel, they will pay this for you. Which then makes it cheaper than booking through a booking site.

"Shocking"

1
11/11/2015

No car park is fine but the hotel was a fair walk and difficult to find . When I arrived the lift was not working. I hot yo the room which was freezing and the top Windows would not close properly so banged in the wind all night. To add insult to injury because I booked with booking.com I could not use my loyalty card and the car park charged 18.50 for one nights stay. The hotel said if I had booked direct it would have been better but you font know that when you book and it's too late when you arrive

"No surprises"

08/11/2015

I stayed here for two nights during my latest UK tour. As a Best Western 3-star hotel you expect a certain quallity and it was delivered. But, chain hotels are also somewhat predictable and boring. Best Western Cutlers Hotel falls into that category. If you arrive by train as I did, the hotel is relatively close to the station and easy to find. As I skipped breakfast, I can't report on it. The free wifi worked OK. In summary, I got what I expected at this hotel, neither more nor less.

"Excellent location, excellent staff but"

Our room had no working TV so they moved us - some TV but restricted, Staff tried everything to help but no technical staff on duty at night. Room itself was very good. The lift is the slowest we have ever experienced!

"Value for money hotel"

01/11/2015

Have staydd here quite a lot for business, they ard making improvements to facilities but these seem to take some time. Only one lift but it took six months to upgrade and even now it is very slow and you ars not sure if it is coming when called as the light does not stay on. New breakfast room is omly accssible by stairs however full seldction of cold items on thd buffet an cooked breakfast taken by order, although obviously ready and waiting in kitchen as it was served too quickly to all be freshly made. This timd round, I had a double room with a king sized bed, strange bayhroom facilitis as thd basin was part of ghe main room, shower and toilet only in the bathroom. The room I hac had a front facing window, these are largd wigh tiny windoss abovd that you cannot reach and aas open. Heating was on high but controllable but seems strange to wastd ghis heat. The downside of these rooms is the noise of deliveries to the buffet restaurant nearby, everyday around 6am without fail and with the window open better than any alarm ! This hotel is cheaper than quite a few in Sheffield, good outweighs ghd bad so worth a visit

"Lacklustre"

2
30/10/2015

Lacklustre in the extreme like so many city centre business hotels in the UK. My room had presumably at some point allowed smoking given the odour that greeted me on my arrival while a hook for the shower was another missing detail. The bar was deserted - understandably in a city of great pubs - and the location is down a pretty grim alleyway albeit opposite a Curzon cinema. Plenty of better options locally.

"Best Value."

30/10/2015

This hotel is perfectly located for those who want to explore Sheffield. Whether you are a shopper (check out Rare and Racy books and Rag Parade on Division Street), a culture vulture (Crucible + Lyceum theatres, Graves + Millennium Galleries are all literally a couple of minutes away) or looking to experience the vibrant bars and restaurants this allows you to do them all. We got an online deal but would happily pay the full price in future. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was superb and served in a very nice space indeed. Staff were friendly and helpful.

"GOOD LOCATION AND PRICE"

"Convient location and reasonable price"

28/10/2015

Lovely hotel, not the easiest to find as its down a narrow street and not visible from the main road. Our room was a reasonable size with a large bathroom complete with a shower and bath. The only two small things that could have improved our stay would have been the soap scum on the sink from the previous clients hadn't been there and also a hook for the shower head to attach to the wall so I didn't have hold it whilst showering. All the staff were first class and nothing was too much for them! Also if you do stay here make sure you park in the NCP car park which is a couple of minutes walk from the hotel, take your token into the hotel and they scan it on a machine which gives you discount for when you go to pay for the carpark we saved about £12 so it was well worth it. I would stay here again and I would also recommend it to friends and family.

"Best location!"

5
26/10/2015

Me and my friend stayed here because we were going to an event at the O2 academy which is less than a minutes walk! It was £44 and with our locations where we live it was cheaper to go halves on this hotel than a taxi! The car park is an ncp not free but you get a discount because you're staying at the hotel. Every single staff member was absolutely lovely and so accomodating. Only grumble was the showers don't move! Haha. Thanks for a great stay.

21/10/2015

I booked this Hotel last minute and got a top floor room 400's. The water pressure is not great on the top floors but that may well be a city centre thing in Sheffield!! I arrived and checked in at 8.40, I asked what time the kitchen closed - "it already has sir" I was told. It is very unusual to find a kitchen closed at this time of the day. and I was surprised that the only food available to me would be a sandwich! After a long day I just wanted to unwind and eat a decent meal, not grab a sandwich!!! Not to be. I walked, found a lovely restaurant which I will review separately and came back to the hotel around 10:30 PM. When I returned to the room I checked the hotel information book in my room. I was somewhat surprised to see that actually room service was available till 9:30 PM with a limited but reasonable hot menu plus sandwiches. Needless to say I'm not impressed which is a shame as the Hotel is in a great location, is clean and tidy and offers comfortable rooms.

We had a confusing booking process through Travel republic where we ended up the wrong side of a double booking. Khalil kindly kept us on a reserve list and called us when he had a booking. Great service, nice room and very convenient location.

"Great hotel in the centre of Sheffield"

We have stayed here for 3 nights and the hotel was a great place to see Sheffield and surroundings. The rooms are OK sized but have a cozy feel and it looks well cared after. The receptionists are friendly and even let us check out at 1 so we didn't have to wait at the train station. Would definitely recommend!

"Way too hot"

For once I booked a single room at a hotel and actually got a single room (number 211). We were greeted by a very nice receptionist and even though we arrived before the check I time of 2pm I only had a few minutes to wait for my room to be prepared and the lady putting the finishing touches to it came and fetched me from my friends room when I could go in. When I enquired about the heat she opened the high window for me. It was still way too hot but I found an electric fan in the wardrobe which did the trick and brought the temperature down enough for me actually get to sleep. The breakfast room is lovely and the waitress was very cheerful and happy and I felt that nothing was too much trouble for her. A very good start to the day and the breakfast was delicious. This is a handy hotel for city centre attractions and only a short walk from the station. Apart from the heat I really enjoyed my one night stay.

Room 106 is ridiculously small. You have to step into the bathroom to go in and out of the room. You will need to call reception to open or close the windows. And even then it is doubtful, they will do it. I asked them to close my window, the person fiddled with the closing mechanism, said they'd closed it. But because of curtains and general lay out of the room, I couldn't verify immediately, and only a few minutes later discovered that the window was still half open. With (bin) lorries turning up outside the window at 5am every morning of my stay, plus late night drunk people fighting outside the (open) window, sleep quality was severely compromised WifI may be free, but it is also not strong enough that any of my devices would actually connect to it. If they did, they lost the connection again almost immediately. The breakfast is the most depressing I have had in a long while. Served down in the dungeon, even before 8o'clock there was only one (miniature) sweet pastry left, no savoury toppings for toasts available. the one-portion jam jars on the table were not checked for use. I opened one which obviously had already been used, who knows how long ago. I am certain I was the first person on that table that morning.

"Top Hotel ....very postmodern"

Greg Dyke's own Sheffield hotel nr the Crucible is very chic. A great postmodern place with friendly staff. Five Star!!!!! I wonder if Rocket Ronnie or Stuart Bingham have used it as it is a quality gaff. This is a top hotel and the food at breakfast is of a high quality. The wifi is operative and the shower room had quality neo classical fittings as well as hot water.
