    « Average enough. »

We had booking issues, but putting that to one side, I was not as impressed as I might have been. The receptionist was great and really helpful...but breakfast was a typical 'help yourself' which is almost identical to the one we had in another hotel of a different chain. The room was adequate, small and nothing special, OK for 2 nights, but in this part of the world where rooms are limited you might be pushed to find anything better. They recommended the restaurant 'over the road' (The Cookery) but it wasn't our thing.

    « Hotel well located »

Hotel is in downtown Seward close to the bay, local restaurants and the Sea Life Centre. The rooms were clean and adequate for the short stay although I did not have a sea view.. Staff were polite and helpful. Ideally placed.

    « Value for money »

We stayed in the Edgware hotel during a recent tour of Alaska. Seward is a quaint place worth a visit. Hotel good , breakfast facilities very poor , we didn't have a place to sit to eat which was disappointing , due to coach schedules the whole hotel seemed to need to eat at the same time which just wasn't possible. Clean comfortable rooms , would have liked a sea view .

« Excellent location and helpful staff »

Very good breakfast with plenty of selections. Staff gave great suggestions for dining nearby. Within easy walking distance of SeaLife Museum and just across the street from the shores of Resurrection Bay.

« Beautifully situated hotel in downtown Seward »

We stayed at the BW+ Edgewater Hotel for 3 nights, having booking a room with a bay view and balcony. The hotel is ?downtown' and there are restaurants nearby and aquarium is also close. The ferry terminal, however, is in a separate part of the town (where there are other restaurants) and is about 1.5 miles away. The room allocated to us was on the 3rd floor. The situation of the hotel and our room overlooking Resurrection Bay was idyllic. We had very good weather for our stay and so could see the peaks surrounding the bay. These would probably be invisible when the weather is less clement (as it often seems to be in Alaska). The hotel is not cheap (we paid about $310 including taxes per night for our room with a king bed), but Alaskan hotels never seem to be cheap. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were many paintings by local artists hanging on the walls for guests to purchase if they wished. We parked our car outside the hotel having been reliably informed that daytime parking restrictions were not enforced. I believe that the hotel has a parking lot some way removed from the hotel, but we did not use it. The room was, on the whole, very satisfactory. However, the balcony was small and there was no furniture for it. None of the room furniture would have been appropriate for the balcony. Strangely, the wash basin was separate from the shower room and lavatory. Even more peculiar was the fact that the liquid soap dispenser (there was no soap bar) was attached to the large mirror over the wash basin and the mirror wobbled alarmingly when soap was dispensed. There was some street noise that seemed to be mainly from motor bikes in the night. Breakfast (included in the room price) was adequate with standard self-serve buffet-type fare, but it was nothing special. I must admit that, after our third day, we were rather tired of eating off (small) disposable picnic-style plates using plastic cutlery and began to yearn for crockery and proper silverware. If we had stayed another day, I think we would have looked outside for breakfast.

« Nice mid range hotel. »

This is a nice budget to mid range hotel near the waterfront. It is located on the south end of town, directly across from the Alaska Sealife Center. In the heart of historic downtown and beach. However, it is about a mile south of the small boat harbor (which has some nice seafood restaurants). Only complaint is the sink (which is outside the bathroom) has no counter space at all. Overall however hotel is nice with interior room entry and a large lobby. I would stay here again.

    « Good Location & Accomodations »

My wife & I stayed here recently during the last leg of our Alaska trip. We picked this hotel based on the high reviews on TripAdvisor and the price which still wasn't cheap but comparatively for Alaska, it was decent bang for the buck. The staff was very courteous, helpful and friendly. The hotel itself was clean and in good order as was the room. The bed and pillows were comfortable. We had a small balcony that allowed for a limited view of the water and mountains which was nice. There was a decent sized tv that offered plenty of channels. My only two complaints about the room was 1) the tiny, over-crowded sink/vanity outside of the bathroom and right next to the entry door, 2) the loud wall mounted ac unit. The complimentary hot breakfast was pretty standard. Not amazing but pretty average for what you get with this class of hotels. We were able to find something to fill us up each morning which was great since it's one less meal to pay for. They offered complimentary coffee 24 hrs a day which we took advantage of. The hotel's location is awesome as the water's edge is just a block or so to the east and the downtown shops & restaurants (not to be confused with harbor/port area which is to the north a mile or two) is just one block to the west. Parking can be a challenge as they don't have a designated parking lot. You have to compete with downtown street parking and a couple of times we had to park a block or two down the road from our hotel. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again the next time we're in Seward as long as the price is right.

    « Acceptable »

I routinely stay at Best Western and I am pretty loyal to the chain. While this was not the best Best Western I have ever stayed in, it worked for the 2 nights we were there. I had a waterfront room with a small balcony on the second floor. It was quiet. The breakfast was good. My only problem was that the water was draining very slowly in the shower and the toilet. I was told this happens at the end of the season. I guess they need to pump the septic tank or something. Parking was on the street. I would stay here again.

« Nice hotel. Great location »

Great location in downtown Seward. Walking distance from the all the eating joints. Fantastic views. Clean hotel n rooms. Helpful staff. Had a great time. Wifey thought the price was lil high but everything turned out very well. Def recommend it.

    « perfect location »

We only spent one night here during our recent trip to Alaska but it is a great choice! It is a cute hotel in the downtown area of Seward, walking distance to the water and several restaurants/shops. The hotel was clean, the room comfortable and included free wi/fi and breakfast. Great location!

    « Downtown Seward »

The parking at the hotel is a little tricky. We parked on the street near the hotel. We had a room with a view and were very satisfied with our room and our view. The breakfast was all we needed and were happy with what they had.

    « Good experience »

Helpful staff, clean room with reasonable facilities, didn't like the fact that the vanity was outside the bathroom. Room with partial lake view is a preference. Breakfast was quite average but hey, it was free! Yes, I would stay again.

« Superior customer service and a fantastic breakfast bar!! »

Spent two nights here. Staff was fabulous; when we asked for a quieter room, they immediately upgraded us. Beds were comfortable and room was nice and clean, although small. The stand out was the complimentary breakfast buffet!! They had just about anything you could want- omelettes, sausage, hot oatmeal, homeade waffles, you name it!

« Where to stay in Seward, AK »

If you want a comfortable friendly place in the heart of the breweries and restaurants, away from the harbor, this is the place to stay. Lovely views, short walk to shops and restaurants, along with an educational walk along the water (mile zero original Iditarod Trai and a nice aquarium)l.

    « Location, location! »

First of all, we wanted to spend two nights in Seward. This place is in Seward. Second, we wanted to be near the water and we are, with a very nice view, too. We also wanted to be in the main part of town, near the restaurants and the main local town attractions. Scores there too. This is NOT a Ritz. It is a pretty good Best Western. Not a ton of better choices here. We are at tail end of season and paying $170 a night plus tax. I read that others paid over $300 a night. If this place were not where it is, I would have balked at the price. But we are happy to be here. Location, location! Courteous staff, too.

« No Frills Hotel but Conveniently Located... »

A place to rest your head but don't expect too much. The bedding and room amenities were basic. Very close to the waters edge and park as well as the downtown shops. Continental breakfast comes with the room rate, which is an added bonus.

« Okay hotel for an okay price »

The hotel was okay for an okay price in comparisson to other hotels in Seward. Parking is on the street. not a lot of parking in front of the door. The front desk and the welcome was very nice and super friendly. You have to pay extra for a bayview room, and we did not get a lot of bayview. Breakfast was mediocre. Location is great! closeby the the aquarium and a few places to get some diner. If you stay 1 night, it is perfect.

« Great Start to our Cruise »

Our group flew into Anchorage, took the train to Seward and spent one night at the Best Western Plus Edgewater Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised after a "questionable" night at an iffy hotel in Anchorage. We arrived a little early, as the train got in in the morning, but they were able to store our bags which allowed us to wander the town a little. Very helpful (if perhaps a bit over-caffeinated) front desk assistance. They gave suggestions of things to see, tours to take, restaurants to enjoy, etc. The room was quite comfortable, and I slept wonderfully! Really enjoyed the breakfast - and won't forget the kind-hearted kitchen worker who yelled across the room "Turn it over" when the waffle maker started beeping at me... oops... newbie waffle maker here... We had a good laugh over it, though - and the kitchen worker made it very enjoyable and fun. Also - loved the shuttle service to the hotel from the train AND the shuttle service to the ship - that really saved us a lot of money. I did find the price to be a bit high - but realize that this is the time of year that they can make up for the upcoming slower season.

    « Nice stay for pre-cruise. »

Nice area lots of good restaurants close, hotel is very adequate. Hotel staff was very helpful and courteous. Close to the waterfront. Lots to do. Pre-cruise stay and went on the Kenai Fjords National Park Tour.

    « Okay! »

We stayed 2 nights at the Best Western Plus. Our room was located on the first floor which was directly across from the Cookery. It was a small room with 2 beds, one window the faced the street. Our air conditioner was on as well as the heater. We finally had to open the window to get some fresh air only to find out that the guests that smoked came out the front door and stood in front of our window to smoke. We were lucky when we asked them to move away from our window as they smiled and obliged our request. Maid service was marginal and the room was not as clean as it could have been. The last morning we were there, the toaster in the breakfast area set off the fire alarm. It did wake you up!! Breakfast was good and shuttle was good.

« Clean Hotel, Great Location, Excellent Staff »

Let me start by saying that most hotels in Alaska are pretty basic. We knew they were going to be expensive for what you get as compared to other areas. So what we were looking for in Seward was clean comfortable accommodations in a good location for an affordable price. The Best Western Edgewater definitely fit the bill. The staff is excellent, very friendly and helpful, and the hotel and our room were meticulously clean. The 2 double beds were adequate, and very comfortable. The bathroom was small, but updated. The room contains a convenient small fridge and microwave and provides free Wi-Fi. This hotel has a center atrium, with rooms surrounding it. We opted for a standard interior room that did not have windows. The price was a little cheaper and we were just fine with it. The only issue you may have is if there is any activity in the atrium area, you will hear it in your room. There was some activity early on, but it was very quiet once we were ready to retire. Just wish these hotels (and this is even true of the more expensive ones) would have doors that close more quietly instead of slamming shut. The only real complaint we have is they have a goofy setup with their heating/cooling. You cannot set the thermostat to cool, even though it has a lever for it. The thermostat is for heating only. For air conditioning there is a remote for the wall air conditioner. We had to call the staff to come in and show us how to work it. The TV setup was equally strange and not user friendly. You would never figure it out on your own. They either should leave directions in the room, or get easier setups. To their defense, when we called, staff personnel came over immediately to assist us and were very friendly and helpful. We assume this is the drill for new patrons! They serve a complimentary breakfast starting at 6am that had several hot and cold choices. This worked great for us with our early excursions. The hotel is located right across the street from the Sealife Center, and many good restaurants are nearby. Check out Thorns for a ?Bucket of Butts? (halibut that is!), and Seward Brewing for a good beer selection and very good reasonably priced food. Also check out Eureka Pizza in the harbor area for a large variety of good, very reasonably priced pizza. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service that runs from 9am till 5pm, plus there is a free school bus shuttle service in Seward that runs every half hour in a loop taking you back and forth from here to the harbor/train area from 10am till 7pm. You can find the schedule on the City of Seward website. We used Exit Glacier Guides to transport us back and forth to Exit Glacier for $10 each round trip (pickup is a couple blocks up from the hotel), Seavey's Iditerod Tour picked us up and dropped us off very close to our hotel, and Major Marine dropped us off at our hotel too. We arrived in Seward off the train and left by bus via Alaska Tours and Travel, and we were able to get around very easily without a car. The hotel will also hold your bags free of charge. We checked out in the morning, and left our bags with them while we did our sightseeing. We picked them up later in the afternoon for our ride back to Anchorage. We booked this hotel on Expedia pretty early before the season started and secured a reasonable price. Rate was slightly over $200/night in mid-June. We find we get better pricing when we book early, and Expedia will refund the difference if the price goes down after you book as long as it's a refundable rate. Some of the comments we have seen complain that this hotel is not up to standard as compared to other best Western Plus hotels. That is probably true, but it definitely is up to standard and above with comparably priced Alaska hotels. Let's face it, these aren't resorts. You come to Alaska to see the beautiful scenery and wildlife and enjoy the great outdoors. You will spend very little of your time in the hotel. We found the Best Western Edgewater to be a quality hotel and an excellent choice for our stay in Seward, and highly recommend it!

    « This Was A Let Down »

This is a beautiful hotel that is centrally located. The location is perfect, it is clean and it's quiet. The staff were wonderful. We had a tour get back late, leaving us stranded and they sent out their shuttle even though it was supposed to have stopped for the day. Unfortunately, this hotel just doesn't provide value for the money paid. This hotel had the smallest rooms and most meager breakfast that we encountered during all of our time in Alaska. On our second morning we all decided we didn't want to eat breakfast in the hotel again so we went out. We had a balcony that provided a beautiful view but it was so small you could only stand on it. There are no chairs on their balconies because they won't fit. At night it got cold in the room and we found no additional blankets. Only a thin blanket was on the bed. I picked this hotel because my mother-in-law, who has mobility issues, was traveling with us and I wanted a hotel with an elevator. The balcony was a splurge. I realize that Alaska prices, and Seward in particular, are higher, but $300 per night is a bit high for such a basic hotel. And that was a discounted rate!

    « Excellent Location »

Although the room was a bit smaller than we are used to, the quality made up for it. The location is also excellent as it is close to the sea life centre, harbour & shops. Staff were very friendly & helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it to friends.

    « Disappointing »

Ok hotel, though not up to Best Western Plus standards. Rooms are fairly small, only one (slow) elevator and no dedicated parking... You have to park on the street, after finding a space, then bring your luggage uphill or downhill. Location is good if you want to go to the Sealife Center (great place to visit) just down the street within easy walking distance. So is the old town of Homer. If you want to go to the small boat harbor (where the glacier cruises leave from) you need transportation. Staff is great. Prices are quite high, even for Alaska.

    « Excellent Handicap facilities »

Hotel is very handicap friendly; They are good about letting you store your bags before and after checking in/out. Breakfast is also good; only downside is they are only open in summer They also offer a shuttle service but it only runs 9-5. There are other shuttles in town so this is not a big deal

    « Nice place »

We checked into this hotel on 8-22-2016. Nice, clean hotel with nice people working there. It's right in downtown Seward across the street fro the Hotel Seward. We walked 2 blocks to bars and to get food. There's a breakfast shop on the water right across the street. It's about a mile from the seaport where we got on a boat for a wildlife cruise. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anybody.

« Find Another Option or Another Location »

I'm surprised by some of the positive reviews. Below is my feedback regarding my stay here. 1) Better train front desk reps so that they are more customer service oriented both in what they offer and in their tone/delivery. We asked for a later check-out (3:30 pm). The whole reason we went to Seward was to take a cruise. The cruise ended at 2:00 pm. The response from the front desk person was snippy and dismissive in tone. She advised that she could not help with that but that I would have to wait till morning and ask the head housekeeper. This front desk person was also handing off the front desk to her morning replacement, Justin. The next morning when I went to the front desk to make the very same request Justin was still at the desk. He without a word said that a late checkout would not be a problem. It appeared as though the first rep simply didn't want to be bothered and was more concerned about leaving for the night. 2) Upgrade the A/C units. They are old and the output on a hot summer day was not adequate. It was also difficult to access (near the floor) and difficult to read the controls. 3) The bed was the worst. It was like a giant spring board wrapped in cloth. The slightest movement by one was felt by all. The pillows were also spongy and very uncomfortable. 4) The noise transfer from floor to ceiling was really pronounced. We could hear ever step from the guest who was above us. It made taking a short nap the following afternoon impossible. 5) Value: our room rate was over $300.00 per night. The only reason I chose this hotel was because of online reviews in comparison with others in Seward. The price is comparable of better quality hotels in larger cities but does not make sense given the location and all of the other negatives itemized above. Positives: The showers were hot and great water pressure. We also like the soap/shampoo dispensers. They were clean and convenient.

Short walk to the Sea Life Center, where you can also catch the FREE City shuttle to a number of stops in town including the Safeway grocery store. Great Shuttle service to the area where the National Parks Fjords Tour leaves from and also some great seafood eating places are located..

« Good hotel in great town »

We stayed at the Best Western while we were in Seward. The hotel is a bit dated, but the staff was great! They were very helpful in deciding where to eat and what attractions to see. We were exploring the city for most of the day, so we didn't stay in our room that often, but it was a very convenient place to stay, an easy walk to restaurants and local attractions.

« Enjoyed this Best Western »

We had a room with a water view and it was great. Our balcony wrapped around the side of the building and offered a nice view. The room was very clean and nice. The front desk staff was very helpful. The breakfast area could be a bit larger---it gets pretty crowded at times. I believe there may have been some tour groups at the hotel and perhaps that would explain the heavy traffic in the breakfast area at certain times. We had a car and had no trouble parking on the street adjacent to the hotel. All in all, we liked this Best Western very much.

« Excellent service, great location and superb views! »

My wife and I stayed here for 1 night on a room only basis during our escorted tour of Alaska with Titan Travel. The hotel, on the shore of Resurrection Bay, is conveniently located to explore all that Seward has to offer and is within easy reach of attractions, restaurants and shops. Attractions we enjoyed and worth visiting included Seward Harbour (a short walk from the hotel and a great location to spot sea otters), Scheffler Creek Lagoon (an important habitat for all five species of Pacific salmon), the Alaska SeaLife Center (Alaska's first class aquarium and marine mammal rehabilitation facility) and the Benny Benson Memorial Park (a memorial to Benny Benson who aged 13 designed Alaska's flag in 1927 while living in Seward). We were welcomed at the hotel by friendly staff at the end of our scenic drive from Wasilla via Anchorage along the 127 mile Seward Highway and the Kenai Peninsula to Seward. We were allocated a well-appointed guestroom at the front of the hotel offering two very comfortable beds, a lovely en-suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries, a flat screen tv, a fridge and microwave (very useful - thank you), tea/coffee facilities, air conditioning and a table and chairs. However, within half an hour of our arrival we found a problem with the bathroom which we reported to Reception. The Reception staff tried to sort out the problem but decided that a plumber would be required and would not be available until the following morning. The staff were brilliant in dealing with the situation and quickly found us another guestroom on a busy night at the hotel ? thank you so much. Our new guestroom was an upgrade as it was much larger, had a king-size bed as well as a balcony with breath taking views of Resurrection Bay. It was very clean and comfortable and the complimentary Wi-Fi internet access offered a good signal throughout our stay. The self-service breakfast in the restaurant was filling and included cereals, yogurts, fruits, assorted breads, muffins and waffles, cheeses and cold meats and freshly cooked scrambled eggs with plenty of tea and coffee. Thank you to the staff for their excellent service and would recommend this conveniently located hotel with superb views as a base to enjoy Seward.

« Edgewater in Seward, AK »

Very disappointed in age/condition of lobby furnishings, as well as overall size of our room and cleanliness of our bathroom. All substandard based on $ value and other BW Plus hotels. Beds and shower were nice.

« Hands down best front desk staff we have ever seen »

Stayed in Seward for several days. We spent some hours down in the lobby area relaxing or waiting for shuttles Non stop each shift of the front desk was fantastic. They offered recommendations for food, called to check cost on taxi for exit glacier, called taxis for us, handled bags etc. every single person at the front desk was cheerful and friendly. We have never seen a staff at a hotel this good. We will contact best western to relay kudos after we get home.

« Nice hotel in a pretty area »

I believe our room was a "room with a partial water view". Well if you went out onto the balcony and looked to your right between the trees you could see water. It didn't bother us at all, but I wouldn't pay extra for a water view. You just walk across the street and viola there is the water. It is truly a beautiful scene. The room was clean and suited us just fine. However, the air conditioner window unit was quite noisy The location of the hotel was near quite a few eateries. The breakfast was fine but can get pretty crowded. After checking out and driving 1 and 1/2 hours, we got a call from the hotel saying a rain coat had been left behind. We turned right back around and were super grateful for the call. I would have been a sad camper without my raincoat in Alaska. Thank you!

« Comfy room, convenient location and friendly service »

One night stay at this hotel in Seward. It's not right next to the harbor nor train station, but walking distance to the Sea Life Center, restaurants and the main street. Room was small, but adequate and clean. People was friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the piano play at lobby. Hot breakfast in the morning the shuttle bus from train station were helpful to tourists. Enjoyed our stay.

« Seward Best Western Plus »

The price paid was too high, the room was a standard room. We choose the mountain view because we were not going to pay approx. $125.00 more for a view of the bay. Painting was going on during our stay, the room smelled of paint and fans were left on all during the night outside our door. The fans were noisy. Front desk did nothing when we reported the problem. No pool or spa at this hotel either, so the price is just for the ability to stay in Seward. For the most part staff was helpful and energetic. If we return to Seward we would not stay in this hotel, we would find another alternative.

« Great location, beautiful views »

Great location in downtown Seward, short walking distance from many restaurants, shops, and Alaska SeaLife Center. Cookery, a highly rated restaurant is across the street. Parking is along the street but that was not a problem. Gorgeous views of resurrection bay and the mountains from the room which had a small balcony. Complimentary hot breakfast was included which was adequate.

« Good Tourist Class Hotel »

Stayed 4 nights. Good location near several good restaurants and the Sealife Center. Free shuttle service from the train station, no need to call as they show up every day. Hot breakfast is about what you would expect: make your own waffles, oatmeal, cold cereal, assorted breads and muffins, yogurt, and a rotating hot selection like cheese omlettes, biscuits and gravy, or scrambled eggs that are all fine, but nothing special. Check in is a bit late, at 4pm, but they are happy to store your bags. Rooms are basic, old-school tourist hotel. They do have free wi-fi and our room had a microwave and mini fridge. Nice TV. But TINY sink and zero counter space (see photo). Overall nice basic hotel, no frills, but comfortable and clean.

    « Best hotel staff »

We loved our stay at the hotel....every that worked there did a fantastic job. Justin, the shuttle driver and Savannah at the front desk went above and beyond for us....but all of the staff was great....we just felt like we got to know Savannah and Justin because we spent the most time interacting with them. They gave us great advice on the area sites, restaurants, night life, etc. They made our stay here GREAT!

« Minus one piece of luggage at BW Plus »

Our experience at the Best Western Plus Edgewater Inn was marred by one of our pieces of luggage disappearing from where it had been "stored" in the hotel lobby. We had arrived prior to check in and were told we could leave our luggage in the lobby. The lobby area was already filled to overflowing by "stored" luggage. Upon our return from our Exit Glacier hike, my suitcase was missing. The working theory was that it had been taken by another guest and checked onto the evening train back to Anchorage. I was faced with the prospect of having to get through the remaining week of our vacation with only the clothes on my back; my medication had also been in my suitcase. To be fair, a level-headed woman, who I believe was the hotel manager, offered to go the extra mile (actually the extra 352 miles) by driving to Anchorage and back to meet the train and hopefully reclaim my bag. There was a happy ending to this story; my bag was there and I was reunited with it in the morning, when I awoke to find it once again standing unsecured in the lobby. I would strongly suggest that the hotel set aside a secure luggage storage area and/or adopt some kind of claim check procedure so that no future guest needs to experience the shock and panic of this happening again. The hotel itself is in the middle of downtown Seward and across the street from the Alaska Sea Life Center. That said, it is probably a mile from the town's actual center of activity, the Small Boat Harbor. As for our room, it was one of the bizarre internal atrium rooms. On the plus side, the A/C was cool and quiet, and since the only window looked out on the lobby, it was much darker than other rooms during our vacation (19 hours of daylight can make for difficulty getting to sleep). Breakfast offered a lot of choices, including the popular make your own waffles. Front desk staff were young and inexperienced and more interested in their own conversation than in helping guests. Only the manager who helped retrieve my bag and the shuttle driver went above and beyond. All in all, though, I really don't understand how this hotel has earned the "Plus" designation in the Best Western chain.

    « Great Location »

This hotel is wonderfully situated in this quaint town, an easy walk to the bay and the wonderful sea life centre. It is a bit more of a walk to the harbour area, but a pleasant one. We were lucky with the weather which makes everything look so much better, especially after a week of rain! Nothing to complain about regarding the hotel itself.

    « Breath taking view »

My son and I spent the night in this hotel and were blown away by the beauty of both the hotel and the view from our room! From our second floor balcony we could see the mountains and the bay, absolutely gorgeous!! Staff was very friendly and knowledgable of the area. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others!

    « Very nice! »

Spent several nights here before a cruise and found it to be a great hotel. Close to the Sea Life Center and free around town shuttle. Hotel has shuttle and luggage transport to cruise ship. Very nice breakfast, although the dining area could be larger.

« Nice Compromise of Price and Quality »

We stayed at Best Westerns in Anchorage, Homer and Seward as a compromise between price and quality. We were blown away by the Alaska prices for food, lodging and activities. We reserved the room through and failed to notify this Best Western of our reservation. Fortunately, they had room for us and honored the lower price we'd been quoted through The breakfast was not great, but at least it offered a breakfast. Our room was also on the small side, but the staff was friendly and a very nice restaurant, The Cookery, is just across the street.

« Too bad we didn't have more time »

Phenomenal stay. We stayed here one night, so I don't have a wealth of info to share. The front desk was extremely helpful on where to go for food, getting us a taxi, holding our bags etc. They had a free breakfast in the morning which went over great for our family. The food in Alaska is expensive so anytime a meal is included take advantage of that! The only issue we had was when I tried to turn on the AC (yes it got warm with 3 adults and a child in the room) it was very loud. I ended up just opening a window instead. Most of the time we were here it rained but the local hop on hop off bus dropped you off relatively close to the hotel. They have a really big, and really nice lobby so if your room isn't ready it's a pleasant wait.

    « Great Stay »

Great location near the bay. An easy walk to all Seward has to offer. Nice and friendly staff. The free breakfast had a large selection. We happened to stay during the hotter days of July and wished for AC, but the patio door opened onto a nice balcony and brought in cool air. We would definitely stay here again.

« Great Location, Great Hot Breakfast »

I stayed two nights at the Edgewater on my recent vacation stop in Homer. It was an excellent stay and especially a great location in downtown Homer, walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and Sea Life Aquarium. Parking is along the street but that was not a problem. The hot breakfasts were especially good with big variety, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and hot breakfast meat, Excellent desk service. One thing that was difficult was trying to work the TV with the remote, but did I really go to Alaska to watch TV. Larry R

    « Excellent experience »

Hotel was great - close by to many things, shuttle from ship's dock and also to the train station. Near the school bus stop that takes you around town. Close by to lots of restaurant choices and things to do. Perfect location for our family!

    « Excellent hotel »

Centrally located and within minutes of everything Seward has to offer. Clean and comfortable rooms with nice friendly staff. the hotel offers a free breakfast. It's busy but choices are good. Good views over the bay.

« Away from the busy port, quiet »

This hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from the small boat harbor. If you arrive before 7 there is a free shuttle that will pick you up and bring you within a few hundred yards of the hotel. If not then a taxi is available for about $7. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The hotel offers free breakfast that is a bit crowded and just average but on par for the waffle eating prefab egg crowd. No AC so if you arrive on one of the rare warm days the room will be a bit stuffy and you will need to open the outside door and turn on a fan. The room was a bit moldy, not overwhelming but if you have mold allergies be warned. For me, the staff and location make up for some of the shortcomings. At $300/night in peak season it is pricey for what you get.

    « Best Western - best option »

You would possibly find some 'neat' little B&B locations in Seward but for quality, service, location, and amenities, this hotel topped all the places we stayed during an 11 day Alaskan adventure. Despite the normal cool temperatures, Alaska can get rather warm. This hotel had adequate A/C as well as a decent breakfast, nice staff, and spacious rooms with lots of amenities. It's located in the center of the places in Seward anyone would wish to visit and is within easy walking distance of restaurants and more. I highly recommend this location. It's not a cookie cutter hotel as one might expect.

« Nice view of Resurrection Bay »

The hotel is downtown, so it is away from the fishing docks, but it's only a couple of minute drive. The view is nice (ask for a Bay view room). It has a full complimentary breakfast. The internet is just ok, just like most hotels in the US. You can walk to several places to eat.

« Pretty Good Hotel In Seward »

Pricey but nice hotel in Seward. It's located in a nice spot across the street from Resurrection Bay. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was better than the average Best Western breakfast with lots of options. The staff was nice enough. There is no parking lot, but we had no problem finding street parking for the nights during our stay. This hotel is directly across the street from the sea life center, has lots of restaurants in walking distance and is a couple of minutes drive from the boat dock. I was close to giving this hotel 4 stars, but just found the hotel a little pricey for what it is. Hotels in Alaska are just pricey in the summer. All that being said, we would likely stay here again, and would recommend staying here.

    « Very Nice »

My first time here. It is very clean and the staff have all been so very pleasant. Great breakfast too. Would definitely go back again. I do wish Ice was on every floor but not a big deal in the scheme of things. I would say it is one of the nicest hotels in the city

« Away from the crowd »

This hotel has a good location away from the busy docks of Seward. Although the rooms are small, they are clean and comfortable. There are a handful of restaurants within walking distance, and the free Seward shuttle stop is just across the street. The front desk employees were helpful and friendly. The free breakfast has a good variety of eggs, biscuits and gravy, pastries, oatmeal, cold cereal, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The coffee was above average and available throughout the day.

    « Decent Stay - Great Location »

We needed to stay overnight in Seward and this is the only National-brand hotel in town. We reserved months in advance and prepaid to confirm a reservation and get a good rate. When we arrived, the room we requested was waiting and there were no issues at check-in. The outside of the hotel is rather plain but the inside is attractive with a large atrium-type lobby that goes up to the roof. The second and third floors have balconies that overlook the lobby. Exterior rooms have windows and/or balconies with views of either Resurrection Bay or the mountains. We needed a wheelchair accessible room and that was an interior room (no view) that was adjacent to the lobby. It was convenient to get to, but there was a second door to our room that opened directly into the lobby (and also a curtained window) so we could hear everything echoing in the cavernous space. This included children playing around on the grand piano and the desk clerks talking in the middle of the night. Fortunately, we were tired and were still able to get some sleep. When we arrived in the room it was very cold because the A/C had been left on even though it was a cool, rainy day. The thermostat seemed to have no effect and we had to call for assistance. Maintenance came right away and helped sort it out (the unit had to be controlled via remote, not the thermostat). Other than that, the room was clean and comfortable and seemed recently renovated. It was a little small for maneuvering with a wheelchair but it did have all the necessary modifications including a roll-in shower. The breakfast offered a good selection with healthy choices like oatmeal, fruit and yogurt but the dining area is quite small (we were there early so it wasn't busy yet). In addition to being right next to scenic Resurrection Bay, the hotel is just a block from Alaska Sealife Center and Waterfront Park, and within walking distance of several restaurants. The harbor is about a mile away.

    « Okay stay. »

Temperature control did not work, left some fishing gear in the room during checkout that disappeared when upon returning to retrieve the left behind items. Location was good, close to some good restaurants, the hotel breakfast was also very nice.

    « Good Experience »

We stayed at the BW Edgewater recently prior to our cruise out of Seward. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious and clean. Balconies are tiny. Shuttle service from the AK RR and to the ship was convenient. They stored our luggage the morning of our departure and took it to our cruise ship separately. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

    « Nice property »

Nice well kept hotel in Seward. Good location near a few shops and restaurants. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Parking on street or a lot 2 blocks away. Close to waterfront area that you can take a walk or ride bikes. This is a great hotel if you are in the Seward area. The Water view rooms were nice with a small balcony

« Tired hotel with mediocre service but great views »

We arrived in Seward by train and it was great that the hotel meets clients off the train with a shuttle bus to take you to the hotel. The train arrived at about 11am so our room wasn't ready. That wasn't surprising and they told us to come back at 1.30-2pm. We returned to the hotel at 2.45pm and were told that our room still wasn't ready and would be another half an hour. During both of these two conversations the woman on the front desk seemed irritated and unwelcoming. The breakfast buffet in the hotel is hopeless if you want anything healthy. Almost no fruit (only apples), the only yogurt was loaded with sugar and additives, no granola, no bagels, scrambled eggs like rubber. On our first full day we were out of the hotel for ten hours on a boat trip. When we got back the bed in our room was not made properly and there was a bag of trash left on the carpet in the room and a damp towel left on the back of a chair. On the plus side, we had one of the rooms with a balcony overlooking the bay and the view was absolutely stunning. Also, of all the places that we stayed in Alaska this hotel had really good blackout blinds on the windows so we didn't need to sleep with eye shades.

« Probably would not stay again »

Pretty standard Best Western, but with no cookies or newspaper in the lobby. Did have coffee, though. Hot breakfast was fair - sausage was link-type and mostly fat. A plus was that it was near the Sea Life Center and across the street from The Cookery, a highly rated restaurant. A minus was that it was not close to the harbor area. The sink drain was broken, the shower curtain was too short (had to be careful not to let it creep out over the side of the tub, and the shower head was installed incorrectly so it could not be adjusted properly. You're on your own for parking, but if you can't find a spot on the street there is a designated lot a couple of blocks away. Not a bad place, but we'd probably try somewhere else next time.

« Within walking distance of many restaurants »

Horrified to find the hair dryer plugged in and sitting on the small sink. An electrocution waiting to happen! (Reported to front desk staff who were shocked (no pun intended). Bathroom was tiny and sink even smaller. Not what I expected for a Best Western Plus. Breakfast choices were plentiful, although strawberries for waffles should have been thawed out. Small space for breakfast dining did not accommodate our group of 50 plus other guests. Noise from front entrance could be heard in nearby rooms.

    « Best Western Plus A Plus! »

We stayed here two nights while visiting Seward. The town is so cute and quaint. The staff was nice and attentive. It's the only major hotel chain in Seward. The water front is across the street and there are walkable shops and restaurants.

    « Only 1 night »

We stayed here only 1 night because the military resort did not have room for us one night during our stay. Loved the view from room balcony. Breakfast was included and normal for chain hotel. Rooms were nice and loved the balcony. Easy to walk downtown from this location. It seemed to be lots of ins and outs with the cruise port. Price ---- I thought pricey for what u get. It was clean.

    « Not impressed »

We stayed in Seward for a wedding. Our stay was 3 nights long at this hotel. Our room type was two double beds and it was just my boyfriend and I. We asked when checking in if another room type with a king bed was available but they said they were sold out. The young lady then said they will put a note in our reservation and ask if anyone would want to switch when checking in. The second morning of our stay at breakfast we overheard a group of older men that were friends saying that two of them had to sleep in a king size bed together. Obviously the front desk never said anything to anyone about switching room types. The room had hair in the bathroom, tub and toilet and bed. It was on the second floor overlooking the lobby and it was extremely noisy in the mornings. I'm talking 630 am. Not 9 am. Overall the room was decent but did not feel clean. Location was fine. They provide shuttle service to and from the train/habor area. It's a mile or so walk to the harbor and the shops. There are some shops and restaurants near the hotel. The staff was nice but are not helpful. When we arrived and departed we had to store our own luggage that was not locked away in any sort. Just placed next to the front desk.

« More than meets the eye »

So, given that there is limited lodging in Seward, and thousands of people moving through the town with incoming and outgoing cruise ships, it is in your best interest to book something early, especially if you want to spend some time in Seward pre or post cruise. Keep in mind that many of the hotels are closed during the winter months as there just isn't enough demand to justify the cost of keeping them open. SO - on to the Best Western Plus. Seward is small enough, this hotel is easy to find. Inside, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are basic, with pretty comfortable beds. The bathrooms are very small, and the sink area is located outside of the bathroom (toilet/shower) area. A minor annoyance. The doors to the rooms are wooden with a small gap at the bottom. So, if you expect quiet, you won't get it all the time. Foot traffic and even lobby noise can be loud at times. Breakfast is typical with hot and cold items. The space is very small, so time your visit. The surrounding area is easy to navigate. You're half a block from the water, a block or so from the Sea Life Center and just a block off of the main shopping district in Seward. When checking out, I was thinking that it really wasn't all that for the price we paid. HOWEVER, when they offered to take our luggage to the pier for us, and hold our carryons so we could do some additional touring, I was sold. Especially when they added the complimentary shuttle to the pier. It's a sign up, so you pick the time you plan to head to the ship. So easy, and so convenient that the staff managed this. Made the elevated cost seem so much more worth it. I'd recommend staying here, and would again when travel brings us back to Seward.

    « Good Location »

We started our Alaskan cruise in Seward and needed a hotel for one night. It is pretty pricey for what you get. $300++ for a standard room with no view. We were assigned a room overlookig the lobby. It's really small for 2adults and 2kids but we were only there to sleep since we had a full day schedule of activities. The room had a weird layout as the sink was right in front of you when you enter the room. Checking in was meh. The staff wasn't really nice or friendly. The location though was pretty good. It was very the aquarium and there were a bunch of restaurants and stores nearby. Seward is small quaint town. The hotel has a good view of the water and the snow capped mountains. Seward is beautiful. It may be a bit of a walk to the Marina but it's a nice walk. The hotel offers free breakfast as well as free shuttle to cruise ship port.

« Friendly Staff and Convenient Location »

The rating is based on what is expected of a motel and not some 5 star hotel. We were looking for a nice place to stay one night close to Kenai Fjords Tour. This motel with its AAA discount met our needs. The exterior paint appears new especially compared to other buildings nearby. I liked the interior design with our second floor hallway looking down into the lobby/first floor. The motel room has a remote in a fresh bag. That was a nice touch since TV remote controls are known to have germs. This motel offered free high speed Wifi which made the family happy. The room is too small to add a roll away bed. There were two double beds though. The breakfast was decent with the typical waffle, cereal, yogurt, etc. The motel location is across the street from the water's edge. We had an enjoyable walk next to the water. It is not a sandy beach but it did not matter in the cool weather. After our walk, we went to Thorn's Showcase Lounge for dinner as suggested by the front desk. Parking near motel was street parking with 2 hour time limits from May 1 ? September 1 8am to 5pm. It was no problem for us since we were leaving early for tour. We noticed the Royal Caribbean luggage tags on the many suitcases in the lobby when we checked out. Nice to know the cruise ship company thinks highly enough of this motel to use them.

    « Convenient location... »

This hotel is conveniently located near downtown Seward, Alaska shops, the waterfront, Aquarium, eating establishments (and bars)! It is a good place to stay -- the staff is friendly and helpful and our room was fine. The bed was comfortable. We had stayed at this hotel on previous visits and knew it was where we wanted to stay on this visit!

    « Good stay »

Sea front property; good accessibility to all activities and good breakfast menu too. I think it was a little pricey for every night but we found that with all activities and hotels during this time of the year in Alaska because of the short tourist season.

  • 5

Hotel staff , all were very friendly and obliging. The hotel was very clean and welcoming our room was second to none cleaned by Sally that morning( well done Sally)The finishing touch was a free breakfast the next morning

« Good location, okay hotel »

The location of this hotel is great, right in the middle of downtown and you can walk across the street to the water and beautiful views. Beyond that, not much to say. The rooms were tiny and loud and the breakfast was just okay.

    « Not recommeding »

This hotel is old, small and expansive. Everything in Seward is overrated and this hotel is no exception. It needs some renovation and at least rooms at the first floor is very noisy. It's also far from the tour boat terminal and definitely not worth $300+ price per day.

    « Pre-Cruise Overnight »

This was a good place for an overnight before boarding our cruise. Staff was excellent and hotel (and room) was clean. Overall, the facilities were basic, but I wouldn't hesitate to overnight here again.

    « Great Location »

Nice hotel. Rooms were small for 4 people. Great location. Water views and mountain views. Easy walking to water front, sea life center, many restaurants. Staff very friendly. Breakfast was ok - crowded. Parking was easy and convenient. Recommend for location.

    « Fantastic service »

We arrived before 4 and requested an early check in---Savannah, guest hostess, went out of her way to oblige us---it took a couple of hours, and we received a room---however, after we entered our room we realized our key cards didn't work, maintenance came, changed batteries, reprogrammed lock...(mind you we did not complain)...they apologized for the inconvenience, moved us to a bigger room with a marvelous view...not to be snobby sounding, but we normally do not stay at Best Westerns---Trip Advisor rated this place as one of the best in Seward...and we concur! Rooms are clean, spacious, frig, microwave (if needed). Staff extremely helpful!!! I believe we have a new outlook on this hotel chain...thank you for all you did to make our stay great!

    « Customer focused »

The hotel is conveniently located near good restaurants and the Sea Life Center. The rooms are standard--nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. The staff was outstanding. They were all extremely helpful. One night the power went out city-wide--extras blankets were provided without hesitation. The power was back on in a few hours--all was handled efficiently and with good humor.

    « Very nice hotel! »

The hotel has good service and the views are really nice. It also has a good breakfast and the hotel is quiet and the rooms are clean. We actually stayed here in Aug 2011 and in Aug 2015 and both of our stays have been excellent. The hotel is also right next to the ocean.

« Great Views at the Best Western »

Our family of 6 adults spent a night here before we departed on our cruise ship. The rooms are on the smaller side but is in a prime in town location. Perfect for walking to shops and restaurants. The hotel also offers ocean view rooms which have a wonderful view! The complimentary breakfast was decent. We would return.

« Excellent Location and Friendly Staff »

We spent 2 weeks traveling in Alaska and decided to spend 2 nights in Seward. This hotel was perfectly located. From check in to check out the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They made us feel welcome and appreciated. We did have a minor problem with the room air conditioning but the staff fixed it immediately and apologized repeatedly for any inconvenience. Do not let the room price scare you. All hotels in Alaska are more expensive than in the lower 48 and you must understand that they are usually open for only 4-5 months. This hotel is priced fairly and is a good value. We would stay here again.

« Some very good points, some OK »

We stayed here in June, 2016. When we arrived in Seward after a very long bus ride, we decided to just walk about a mile to the hotel (we heard later that Seward's free shuttle service did arrive but took longer). This was fine for us, but might have been tough for anyone with bigger bags -- the hotel is not particularly near the bus or harbor (we heard someone else complaining about it). However, the view from the hotel is gorgeous if you get a room with a view of the bay, and there are some restaurants/bars nearby, as well as the SeaLife Center and a seawalk path back to the Harbor. Our first room on an upper floor was kind of dark, had two twin beds, and didn't have a great view, and we wouldn't have been particularly happy in it. We spent more to upgrade to a room with a balcony and king bed and bay view, and that made our whole stay. The lobby area is nice, but some of the "side" areas look kind of worn (carpeting, etc.). I had to use the laundry machines in the basement and it wasn't particularly pleasant down there (plus the machines were very expensive and didn't do a great job). The night staff at the desk -- two guys -- were very friendly and helpful when we arrived, but when we left the next morning there was a young woman at the desk also who was decidedly unhelpful. We were confused about printing luggage tags for our cruise, and she basically looked at what we had, made a face, and said something to the effect of, "No, that's not right, come back when you've dealt with it." She wasn't very helpful at all. I also saw her roll her eyes behind the back of another guest who had questions about the shuttle. It was a shame that her unpleasant attitude was our last impression after the much friendlier and more helpful guys at the night desk. We ended up just taking our bags with us and storing them at the Kenai boat tour office before our cruise, and that worked a lot better for us. Overall, this is a decent hotel with a beautiful view if you have the right room and are in a good location for some of the restaurants and activities right on the bay in Seward, but be prepared that it's a bit of a distance from the Small Boat Harbor if you arrive at night.

« Sea Lions and Whales, oh my! »

I have written many reviews of hotels, but this is the first, and most likely the last one in which I will gush over seeing sea lions and whales from my room. That was quite a perk in this lovely hotel in Seward. The location was great, room was quite comfy and breakfast was good. The staff was outstanding. Very helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay in Seward at the end of our cruise through the inner passage. The air conditioning unit was quite noisy which is why I can't give this property an excellent rating.

    « Disgusting! »

July 4th 2016, staying here overnight post Alaska Cruise. We were so happy to have witnessed Mount Marathon Race & joined the 4th celebration. Hotel is conveniently located, next to all the activities, Sea life center.Hotel shuttle available. My room 104 with 2 queen beds has Bayview but also looking at a parking lot. Female evening desk staff not friendly with an attitude. Laundry available but doesn't dry well. And when we tried to go to bed, I lifted the sheets we found couple of hair on both beds and very wrinkled sheets. I called desk to change all sheets. Not acceptable not to change in between guests. The rugs both in room and hallways looks very dirty. Disgusting.

    « Vacation »

It's a small seaside Alaska town, so I understand things are relaxed. However, they cancelled shuttle services on the morning we needed it. Thank goodness Seward shuttle still ran. The staff dis not suggest options oth we r than walking. That's not a bad 1.4 miles if you're not tugging luggage. Hmmm...

« Great Hotel for Seward »

Beautiful hotel, in the heart of the town, great views of the Bay, across the street from the beach and Sealife center. Helpful staff and outstanding rooms. Best plaec to stay in Seward if you want a modern hotel stay.

« Would have shot the pianist but couldn't see him. »

A most irritating remote piano playing in reception area. The "noise" carried all the way up to the top floor, prefer peace and quiet. View from room great over the bay, bed comfy, bathroom small and sink inside door a very strange arrangement. Free breakfast just about OK but very busy and shortage of seats. Generally a noisy hotel even though it is on the edge of town.

« close to pretty much everything »

This best western is close to pretty much everything. the staff was wonderful. the breakfast was good. Clean rooms. Location, Very easy to find. The only concern was, the air conditioner was a bit loud

« Nice balcony room with view »

First of all, most comfortable bed ever!! Free breakfast was just okay. Great balcony room that overlooked the bay. Although somewhat expensive for this room, we would definitely recommend a bay view. Beautiful!

« Expensive but everything in Seward is »

Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Comfortable room but a lot of noise outside in the morning. Breakfast was not properly restocked as people finished up. Had a problem with the TV. Night clerk came to the room promptly and took care of it

« Clean, genuinely nice people who went above and beyond for us »

Stayed here last month with family and same thing this month. Rooms are clean and there's a fridge for wine or whatever - just no fish processing! Breakfast is decent and freshly turned. It's a quiet location close to the aquatic center (very well run!) Parking later at night could be an issue once the season really kicks in. How they won my loyalty: We went to check in and the front desk didn't have us. Then it dawned on me: our reservation was bumped a day due to unforeseen issues months ago, however, we neglected to change our reservations at the BW. We were charged by a travel website for the full stay (3 rooms) which hurt $$. Still thinking we weren't able to stay and had to find another place, the front desk team and GM found 3 rooms for us and explained what needed to be done to get the refund from the travel website. Patience, kindness and all around goodness were displayed by this team. Danielle runs a tight ship with excellent service.

« The best hotel of our tour. »

Well positioned, nicely laid out with well appointed (albeit small) rooms. Good facilities with excellent views and good wi-fi. Didn't see an evening restaurant so assumed not available but didn't matter as plenty of placed just across the block. Breakfast a bit haphazard as busy but the staff coped quite nicely. Would use agin out of choice.

« Gem in Downtown Seward »

My wife and I stayed recently for 3 nights at the Edgewater with a room with a water view. I highly recommend this type of room. We watched whales, otters, and harbor seals from our room. The hotel is very convenient to downtown restaurants, the Sea Life Center, and shopping. Check-in was fast and friendly.

« Good place to stay »

We were only there one night but the room was clean and comfortable and the staff was great. Great location to tour the town and a short ride to the cruise terminal. The free breakfast was standard hotel fare.

    « Great views »

Wonderful views from the bedroom and certainly the best hotel on our tour.clean rooms and a good nights sleep .Whilst there is no restaurant there are plenty of eateries close by and they do serve a complementary breakfast.

« Great location to see Seward »

The hotel was fine as was the service. Parking can be a pain because it says only 2 hours on street and free parking is 2 blocks up. We did not have a problem with this though. The room was clean, breakfast was good and it provided a good location for walking around the town.

    « Wonderful 2 night stay. »

This was in the perfect location to do the things we wanted to do in Seward. It was clean, comfortable, safe, quiet, the water and walking paths were near by. The staff were absolutely wonderful and caring. Easy check in and out. The power went out in the hotel the morning we checked out, but they handled it well.

    « Great Place! »

Clean, updated, friendly staff and overall a GREAT stay. The rooms are modern, tile bathrooms and we paid a little extra for the view and a tiny balcony. Although the location is perfect to enjoy the sea life center, it's a ride to small boat harbor. There is a complimentary shuttle though to and from the train Depot or Small Boat Harbor to take your day cruise. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Awesome stay »

The staff is extra friendly and caring, breakfast is awesome and the hotel was great. Bed is very comfortable. We stayed 2 nights 6 of us and enjoyed it thoroughly. If you plan on Staying in Seward, I definitely recommend this hotel. We had to drive from Anchorage and it was about 11:30PM when they called to make sure we were okay. We were almost there to check in and I found that really thoughtful.

« Spent a night in Seward after our Northbound cruise. »

The hotel was perfectly located near the Sealife center, lots of restaurants & bars, gifts shops etc. The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful and the rooms were clean with a small fridge. There is a free shuttle from the cruise ship docks (get off at the Sealife center) and a few cab services once there. Very pleased with our stay.

« First trip to Alaska »

The staff was very friendly and check in and check out was very efficient. The hotel is in a safe location and is very quiet. Our room was clean and well appointed. The breakfast was above average and served in a nice breakfast room.

    « Enjoyed our stay! »

Stayed May 30th and 31st 2016. Had partial Resurrection Bay view. Quiet part of Seward near the aquarium. Breakfast was not the best (scrambled eggs were crumbly), but the room and service were great!

« Great staff, super location! »

Goofed on my reservation and arrived two days early. Savannah and Michelle arranged for us to have rooms and honored my reservation price. They did so cheerfully and accurately. The location is right across the street from the beach where you can sit and watch whales and sea lions play. The downtown area with shops and dinning options were in the next block. Our mountain view room was somewhat small for four adults but nicely furnished. We also had an inside room which seemed larger. My main concern was their towel reuse program. They wanted you to reuse your towel but there was only one small towel rack and one hook in the bathroom which was not enough for four towels and wash clothes. The sink area didn't have a towel rack at all which was inconvenient. They have a very nice breakfast selection and it was restocked quickly. They have a free shuttle to the cruise port and even handled our luggage in a separate van. Really enjoyed our stay here!

    « Great choice »

Great location, nice staff on the way to Denali. the hotel is right off A-3 about 45 minutes north of Anchorage. There is also a beautiful view of Lake Lucille from the balcony of each room. Breakfast includes eggs and blueberry pancakes as well as yogurt and fruit.

« Great Stay at Best Western Plus Edgewater »

This is a mid-range hotel that I rate highly because: it's conveniently located (we walked to dinner), reasonably-priced provided you don't need a water view, clean, updated, and had great options for breakfast. The staff was courteous and friendly. A few things to note: I booked my room through Be aware that if you book your room through a 3rd party site and it's very low-priced, you may be booking one of the rooms we got, which had a "window" to the lobby (it was frosted so totally private) rather than a window to outside. I overhead the front desk person explaining that it was a less desirable room that they use the help from third party sites to sell. If you're staying for days at a time this may not be what you want, but for one night it was just fine, especially for the price. Rooms on upper levels or with a view can be double or triple the price depending on season. Also, although it is within walking distance to several restaurants, it IS on the opposite end of Seward from the port and more touristy area. We did the long walk (about 30 minutes) but the hotel also offers a shuttle service. Just important to know where it is in proximity to everything else.

« Great Location and a Delightful Stay »

Right in downtown Seward. Walk to the aquarium, shops, restaurants and waterfront. Bright, clean, well decorated, good breakfast, beautiful views of the water and comfortable rooms. Loved the town and the hotel. Couldn't have asked for more.Happy with our choice.

« Best Hotel in Seward for Views »

If you're looking for a nice hotel in Seward with the best views, this one is it. We stayed in room 304 facing the water. I stayed up late to watch the sunset which was beautiful. Sun didn't set till around 11pm when we went in May. Has a small balcony you can step out on to get great pics. Best Western also offers free breakfast. The breakfast was decent. Had oatmeal, muffins, sausages, eggs, toast, etc. Overall, would love to stay here again.

« Best motel in downtown Seward »

Overlooks park along downtown harbor. Nice breakfast. Staff was very helpful. Within walking distance of small boat harbor plus Alaska Sealife Center, restaurants, etc. nearby. Nice lobby with grand piano. Shuttle to Parc Connector Bus, cruise ship and Train Depot.

« Good location Great Customer Service »

This was the most courteous "front desk" that we encountered on our Alaska vacation. They went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. This location was close to restaurants ,gift shops, park and Church all within walking distance. Unlike some hotels in Alaska, they had an elevator and we had a little balcony off our room. Small Boat Harbor was about a mile walk away.

« Worth while to stay here »

My concern was the breakfast area was too small for the hotel. There is not nearly enough room for guests to eat comfortably. I wish there was shuttle transportation until all the tour boats are back which would be about 6 pm. You are to solve this problem on your own.

    « Good »

Nice hotel on lakefront. The rooms are small but comfortable. Small breakfast and Limited breakfast but it's good.i don't know why they have closed the bar.The staff is nice and helpful and very courtius.Ask for a balcony room for great views of Lake.

« Decent, clean, basic, great location »

As a Four-Star, high-end hotel kind of gal, I was a little nervous about staying here, but booked it based on the strong BW reputation. The hotel itself was a basic, no frills place. Everything was very neat and clean, including the room. The beds were comfortable. The towels in the bathroom were surprisingly thick and plump, and the shower pressure was better than average. The front desk staff including the GM was fantastic. They were vibrant, friendly, professional, and very helpful. I was quite impressed with them. The location was excellent- right by the water, and within walking distance the Sea Life Center, restaurants, and shops. The only thing that I hated was that our room was interior, which meant it overlooked the lobby, and the window was clouded. When I originally booked the reservation, I booked the wrong night, so called central reservations to fix it. When the agent asked if I wanted interior or exterior, I thought she meant corridors. DUH! I was wondering why the rate was so inexpensive! So a hint- book an exterior room if you need daylight and a real window. You aren't staying at the Four Seasons, so don't expect fancy-schmancy, but this hotel worked for me!

« Convenient location, friendly service, and clean rooms »

My husband, brother, and I recently stayed at the Best Western Plus in Seward the night before a halibut trip. The location was great- it is in a nice quiet area within walking distance to the SeaLife Center and several bars and restaurants. The staff were friendly when we checked in and provided some good local dining recommendations. The hotel itself looks quite new and our room was clean and came with free WiFi and continental breakfast. We had everything we needed and I'd definitely choose this place again on a future trip to Seward.

« Beautiful location, great service and clean rooms. »

The Best Western in Seward did not disappoint. The lady who checked us in was very friendly and knowledgeable. The room was clean and the views were great. The continental breakfast was comparable to hotel breakfasts at most major hotel chains. I was very pleased overall.

    « Great Location-Awesome Views »

Booked a room with a view of the bay. Very nice view! Room was clean and well maintained. Service was friendly. Would stay here again! Breakfast is acceptable and location is prime. Great food nearby! Shuttle service from train station and to cruise ships adds more value to the hotel.

    « Visiting Seward »

We stayed in this Best Western Plus which is in an excellent location for this beautiful spot of Alaska. The building is modern and clean. The breakfast is more typical of Best Western's than the "Plus" brand in my experience. Pay the extra amount for an outside room as the "inside" rooms overlooking the lobby are a bit dreary.

    « Room with a view »

We always book a view room and this one did not disappoint. We saw eagles, otters, sea lions and a whale from our balcony. The breakfast was typical breakfast food but the staff made it so enjoyable it brought it to another level. The front desk people were top of their field - helpful, friendly, and fun.

    « Everything as Expected »

I spent 2 nights at the Best Western Plus Edgewater Hotel during my recent visit to Seward. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would not hesitate to return if I find myself in Seward again in the future. For the most part, the other reviews for this hotel that I read before my stay are very accurate and I didn't experience any surprises during my stay. Positives: Very friendly staff, great location, large breakfast selection, reasonably priced, clean Negatives: Street parking only, rooms are a little small, air conditioner was really loud, no u-lock or chain lock on the door (had been removed)

« Exactly as you would expect »

Clean, up to date hotel on southern shore of Seward. Note, only street parking. I was told that there was a shuttle service to cruise ship terminal when ships in port. Breakfast service very good including gluten free options.

« Great hotel on the bay! »

Definitely spring for the extra money and get a room with a balcony and view of the bay. Totally worth every penny, especially if you're lucky enough to be in Seward on a rare sunny day, like we were. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the hotel room was nice and clean. My only complaint is that the walls are pretty thin and sound carries very easily. Also, it sounded like our room had some kind of water pipe within the walls, so whenever someone from an adjacent room flushed the toilet, it made an extremely loud and sudden sound in our room for 5-10 seconds. It surprised us during the night and early in the morning. Not sure if every room has this problem or if we were the "lucky" ones. Other than that, the hotel was great and conveniently located near the Sealife Center and the cute little downtown district.

    « Wonderful Trip »

My husband and I stayed in Seward for two days and had a great trip! The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and we had a nice view of the water. The breakfast was well laid out and the staff was super helpful.

« Comfortable and Very convenient »

located almost on the shores of Resurrection Bay and almost walkable distance from the Pier. Good Comfortable Hotel , not much fuss about facilities , but rooms are ok and the views outside are excellent along the bay. have'nt stayed anywhere else in seward , so cant compare.

    « Convenient! »

We stayed here one night to be able to do laundry and pack for our overnight kayaking trip. It seemed relatively inexpensive for the area and when we got there, we were very surprised at its central location. You can walk to food, shops, and the harbor. Our room was really clean and even though we had a room that had an outside door facing a parking lot, it was pretty quiet! The only odd thing was that our beds had a plastic sheet on them...maybe good for germs, but they were pretty noisy when anyone rolled over. I had just never experienced that in a hotel, but it's not a deal breaker for me...I would stay there again!

    « Well located hotel »

The Best Western Edgewater Hotel is situated in a good location on centre of town opposite the RV park and across the road from the water. It was a 2 min walk to town and restaurants. We were in room 104 on the ground floor which has a small verandah and nice water views, I think the upper level views would have been better. The room was a good size with basic decor, clean with 2 comfortable queen beds, the pillows were very small. Our room was very hot which was a problem. There was a sink in the room near the door, a small cupboard, iron and board and no safe. Wifi was free. The bathroom was compact and clean with a step in bath which had good water pressure. The basic toiletries were on tap. The staff were very friendly and helpful at check in and Tiria gave us good advise on restaurants. Breakfast was very average and busy with many group travellers and there wasn't any where to sit. It included coffee, juice, cereal, muffins, scones, scrambled eggs, sausage and toast all of poor quality. All in all basic hotel but good value in Seaward.

    « Good choice »

I researched for months to find the right accommodations for my husband and me. It turns out my research paid off. The staff was friendly and accommodating ! Upon arrival , the reservations were not correct . It turned out to have been my error but the lady at the hotel desk was quick to rectify the problem! We had a bay side room and do not regret the extra cost. Waking up to the beautiful view was worth it! Th room was average size and not luxurious but very clean and all we needed for th little time we spent in the room. The hotel was a nice walk to the harbor and well as many restaurants and shops! The hotel shuttle was waiting on us at the train station ups on arrival to Seward. We found the hotel to have been a great choice and we would definitely stay there again!!

« Good location. Good service. »

I stayed at Best Western Plus while travelling with my friends in August 2015. The hotel is situated within the small town of Seward and offers great views of the Resurrection bay/Hills just steps from the hotel. There are also great restaurants in the vicinity. The hotel rooms and included breakfast buffet were average. The service was good and the hotel offered to hold our luggage for us after checkout which was very helpful. Overall a good budget stay within the town.

    « unmotivated staff »

We were this summer for three nights in this hotel. the staff is unmotivated, also at the reception. Once the room was not done, the next day we had to ask for toilet paper. The value for money is poor. Never again!

« very nice hotel , affordable price »

this little hotel has a excellent location in this little town. rooms are not big but cosy modern and totally clean. nice lobby , breakfast ok. take a walk to a nearby café with newspapers, books and internet

« They know how to treat you. »

For an out of the way place this motel had some of the best and friendliest service that I've come across. From helping at check-in to hauling your bags to a cruise ship, everything was done with a smile.

« Great location, lacked in cleanliness »

While I am a very big fan of Best Western( we stayed in 6 on our trip), we were surprised by this one. Granted the location of this one could not be better, right on the Bay and next to the Sea Life Center. But for the rates we would have thought it to be better taken care of. The bathroom had little chunks of something on the floor and toilet. I did like how the sink is in the room, makes it quicker for a few people to get ready at once. The sheets had crusty items on them and seemed to either not have been washed or not washed well. I would have thought the employees would have caught it as It was not a tiny affected area. Gross to find when heading to bed after a long fun day. But there was free parking, a normal BW breakfast included and friendly staff. I am hoping that we were just there in a room that was not done right, but hey for the money spent.. all rooms should be cleaned right. Not to the BW standards I am used to.

    « Best Western Edgewater »

Outstanding Hotel, great service and Employees. Facilities were very clean and presentable, rooms were outstanding and very comfortable. The Wi-Fi was easy to access and use, Restaurants were easy to walk to and a god variety.

« Great Hotel !! Steps from the Aquarium, Water & Dining! »

Best Western Plus Edgewater Hotel Seward, Alaska I've stayed at this hotel as well as the hotel across the street. This hotel is more updated and I prefer it more then the hotel across the street. Seward hotels get full fast in the summer (tour season months). If you can avoid booking last minute I definitely would book ahead to secure accommodations, because if the hotels in town are sold out its a far drive to the next town. I posted a number of photos of the room to give you an idea of what they look like and the area the hotel is located in. The sink/ vanity area might be small but the DVD player is a nice addition to the room as well as the microwave and fridge. I saw this hotel received some low scores but my experience was no where near a bad one. I had great service however on a side-note I am a Diamond Best Western Frequent Stay Card holder so it may or may not have something to do with the great service I received. My room was not an upgraded room but it was the last room available the night I stayed and I was happy with the room, my stay, the service and the location. I had no troubles finding parking on the street and I was able to walk to the water and the aquarium within 5 minutes. I had to drive to the boat launch harbor area where my Kenai Fjords Tour left from but that drive was only about 5 minutes from the hotel. There are a number of different restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. There's a large grocery store a ten minute drive from this hotel to purchase snacks, boat motion sickness medication, ice, food and beverages. Keep your eyes open when getting to Seward there are frequent eagle sightings over head. Offers great opportunities to get a great picture of an eagle. I had a wonderful stay at this Best Western Plus Hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would stay here again.

« Great location, in great little town! »

BW in Seward is really in a great spot, just a block or two from the wonderful Alaska Sea Life Center. Rooms could use an update, but it's on par with most of the town. Nightlife and restaurants all a close walk.

« Nice new hotel with a friendly and accomidating staff - Super hot breakfast »

3 adults stayed in a room with 2 queen beds for 3 nights. The bed, pillows and linens were nice, not as high quality as the BW in Fairbanks Pioneer, but still of a nice quality. The room was large enough for a desk and chair, cabinet with drawers and held the TV/Frig/Microwave, there was a lounge chair, nightstand, air conditioner with remote control and the bathroom sink with a large counter. The bedroom and bathroom were both clean, well stocked and well maintained. The hot breakfast provided was outstanding with a very hard working lady who monitored and maintained it during breakfast hours. They served freshly made waffles, a variety of breads, bagels and muffins, 3 fruit juices, a selection of individually packaged name-brand cereals, regular and skim milk, several coffees and teas, eggs and potatoes/starch (varied each day) and fresh fruit. Having this so we could start our day early and quickly is one of the main reasons I selected this hotel and the other BW during our 18 day trip in AK. THANKS BW. and give this breakfast lady a raise, she kept all your guests who packed every seat in the area happy with well-stocked food, a great attitude and work ethic. One thing that I did not see mentioned in other reviews is the availability of vending machines on the lower level. They had a good selection of drinks, foods, candy, chips and even Ice Cream. It was greatly appreciated when a late night snack was needed. A nice seating area is provided with a fire place and a player piano in the center of the hotel. It was a perfect place to wait for others or just to sit and relax outside of your room. The front desk staff was very helpful during check in and check out. They even loaned us an umbrella on two evenings to keep us dry as we walked to dinner. The hotel has a luggage storage area for bags after our check out while we visited the Sea Life Center. That is a real great benefit. We initially had trouble connecting to the free wifi and the hotel provided a technical person to assist who then determined their router/system needed to be re-booted so we were up and running very quickly. We had a good signal during our entire stay. (Free wifi is another reason I choose BW during my trips.) My Brother and Sister-in-law missed the hotel's shuttle van by just a few minutes and the hotel manager, Josh Michaels, took $5 from the till to pay for a cab to take them to the nearest pharmacy/grocery. That is real caring and service to your guests. They were very happy with his attitude and ask me to mention him they were so impressed. They have been business owners in the past and know what it means to have such responsible customer service. Thanks Again Josh!!! The free shuttle bus provided by Seward from the Train Depot has a stop about 1 block from the hotel and is available to take you around town as you desire if your waiting at any of their stops when they arrive, a nice benefit in Seward for those of us without a vehicle. The Sea Life Center is only 1 block from the hotel and a MUST place to visit. I live in a city with a huge, world class aquarium and I was impressed with the quality, quantity of sea life and the information and caring I experienced at this center for the animals and visitors. I will definitely recommend this hotel to any one visiting Seward and would stay here again when I return.

« Great Location, Great Staff, Great Room! »

Hands Down, if you are is Seward, STAY HERE! Exception customer service from the minute we walked in the door until the minute we left! We had a corner room facing the bay, It was wonderful .... lots of windows and a small balcony. Shower was excellent. Small refrigerator was useful. Bed was super comfortable. We had three night here, at the midway point in our Alaskan Adventure. We did use the laundry area - $3 a load, however, it was less costly than airline charges for an extra suitcase so we felt like it was worth it, We also hung our coats and gear in the very warm laundry room to dry out after 10 days in the rain. Bonus! Complimentary breakfast had multiple choices ... and more than just the standard hotel continental breakfast. Coffee and beverages were available all day. The hotel provided a shuttle service in town which was nice. We took the Phillips Cruise (AMAZING!!!!) and the Best Western provided door to door service. Definitely enjoyed our stay and would most certainly stay here again! Highly recommend!

« Best Customer Service EVER! »

We have been to 43 countries and traveled extensively in North America, and we had one of our best ever customer service experiences at this hotel. #1 the breakfast was really good. The eggs were not powdered, and in fact I was able to get hard boiled ones every day. The staff in the breakfast area was terrific. They continually came by to insure that we were satisfied. In the third day of a 4 night stay, I came down with a bad stomach virus. The front desk staff and manager offered to take us to the hospital, found out about pharmacy hours and volunteered to do what ever they could to be helpful. Yes the rooms were on the smallish side but they were clean, quiet and well appointed.
