Best Western Plus Santa Marta Hotel

All the attractions are so close to the hotel that you can take a walk to all. The beach is 5 minutes away, the Parque de los Novios is 10 minutes, you only have to take cab to the airport. The breakfast it's excellent, the coffee is always free and an excellent colombian quality. You can see the beach from some rooms or the city from anothers.

Hotel was decent. Hotel staff was very nice and some people spoke english at the front desk. Their recommended Minca tour was good but I found out through others on my tour that they all paid less than me so don't book tours through them. Just find out information. Room was decent but smelled a little bit. For the price it worked out fine.

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Plus in Santa Marta both prior to, and after visiting Tayrona National Park. The location is actually quite ideal, as its within walking distance in one direction of many street markets/vendors that are open during the day, the ocean and beach in another, and restaurants and super markets in another. At no point did I feel unsafe in the area, granted we only stayed out as late as about 9:00pm. Our room overlooked the city and the mountain range beyond, and really was a sight to behold. Their rooftop is beautiful as well, as it offers a breath taking panoramic view of the ocean, the mountain ranges, and the city beyond. The pool has wacky, fluctuating hours depending on the day of the week, and after 7 or 8 they remove pool towels from the area so if you go into the water not knowing this you are in for a very cold elevator ride to your room (as I can attest). The pools filtration system leaves a lot to be desired, and I found that I was swimming with an obscene amount of dead insects and debris. Our first night, prior to leaving for the national park, we decided to order room service and figured that the safest bet would be a burger and fries. We ordered the burger medium, which should allow for some pink in the middle; what was served was a very thin burger patty that was light gray on both sides and raw in the middle. The fries were cold, and they gave 2 packets of ketchup to be used between the burger and fries. We ordered two fresh juice drinks: maracuja and limonada de coca, which were both good. That being said, the room was spacious, the showers hot, the views are amazing, and the location is prime for walking around and exploring:i recommend checking out Cholao-5 min walk from Hotel- for delicious cholado (a colombian fruit/ice cream concoction)and refreshing beers on one of their street side patio tables, sampling the street side arepas, and if for any reason you want a delicious burrito/fast food you have to go to Tronco Burrito.

Close to the beach and the staff is excellent. They try very hard to take care of you. The pool has an excellent view. They have a bar next to the pool and the gym is there to. Makes for a great day. You have good security there and the breakfast buffet is excellent.

Executive summary: - Relatively central - Friendly staff - Decent bedroom - Decent breakfast - Go out for lunch and dinner - Generous variety of TV channels, albeit most are in Spanish, especially during the World Cup - We appreciated the special breakfast they arranged during Colombia's World Cup game. (It aired in the morning). We were happy with our stay but if we have to be a “Debbie Downer” then there are few things to mention: - the shower could have been cleaner, there was residue on the shower protective glass from the previous guests - After we checked out, we sat on the couches 3 meters from the receptionist and she didn't bother to tell us that our taxi driver was waiting for us. He was waiting for us and stood 4 meters from her and us. After 15 minutes, we went to her and asked for our taxi, only then did she tell us that he was there all along. However, everyone else was nice. - the pool had some flies and mosquitoes in it but otherwise it was clean. No big deal.

The location is great for exploring Santa Marta on foot, the area feels safe (even when walking back at night). The rooms are really comfortable and clean. The breakfast is good and the staff are really helpful (we needed medical help in the middle of the night and they were great). The rooftop pool is fantastic - with amazing views over the Caribbean and the cocktails are delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed here for 2 days and really liked it. This Best Western is much nicer than what you see back in the US. It has a real nice rooftop pool on or about the 17th floor with a nice view of the mountains and the port. We got a nice rate for the rooms but room service was kind of expensive. Nothing special about the breakfast. Parque de Los Novios is a short 3 blocks from the hotel with lots of nice restaurants My only complaint are: 1) it was a bit of a hassle recovering a purse my gf left. We asked if they could have it delivered (we would pay for the delivery) and they said they would only deliver it to Santa Marta which didn't make sense to me. Because of this we had to stop by Santa Marta again just to pick up the purse. 2) FOreigners with tourist visas don't have to pay taxes at the hotels. We made the reservations under my son's name who was here on a tourist visa and it seemed like a real hassle for them to do our check in. What sgould have been a 5 minute check in took close to half an hour.

The hotel has a terrace with great view of the city, the port and the sea. With a nice pool that is not crowded, bar serves well prepared drinks. It has walking distance to many restaurants and bars in Santa Marta. Going to the Tayrona Park takes 30-40 minutes from the hotel and they help you organize the trip. Good service, breakfast has different colombian dishes every day.

We stayed here for New Years and had a nice stay. We had to move because and additional member of the family arrived and the room was just too small for three with no option of an extra bed due to the high season. I loved the staff, their service and their always happy attitude. The associated travel agency was the best, excellent service. And the views from the window and the pool, I don't think you can get that anywhere in the world with the mountains and the sea. They have a very cool pool on the rooftop with the best “chef” that makes this one of the kind hot dogs. The gym was small but functional. We came to the New Years party and it had a good combination of party and music without going overboard. Very elegant while happy. The only thing besides the rooms being small is the noise. There is a mechanic shop or something that started to play very loud music even on New Year's Day at 4 am !!! Hope they find a way to silence this's guys

Hi, we had a booking for 4 nights, but stayed only 2. Hotel is relatively new but has few caveats from our perspective: - It's close to but not within the tourist centre, so we were advised to take a taxi in the evenings when returning from the tourist centre - breakfast was just ok-ish, nothing to get excited about. Not enough healthy and savoury options from our perspective - rooftop terrace - > pool was under maintenance, so not much of a value for us + whenever we asked when it will be fixed we got a different answer On the positive side: - rooms were clean - reception staff tried to help where they could - we were allowed to shorten our stay despite non-flexible rate

Stayed here in November 2017 when the hotel was pretty full for a multinational sporting event. The rooms are modern and comfortable. Everything was clean. The gym is very small, with a few pieces of cardio equipment, and some very light weights (up to 25 lbs). The pool is on the roof-top and was nice. The restaurant in the lobby area had good food and breakfast, but the service was very slow. Checkout was slow too but everyone was very helpful. There is a supermarket and bank within walking distance. We took a taxi to the airport (~30 to 40 mins to SMR), and to Tayrona National Park (45 mins to an hour for around COP 100,000).

Staff was very helpfull, breakfast was top quality , service impecable, was a wonderful experience, Loved the swimming pool on the last floor, i wish that the service was as good in other countries compared to Colombia.

Located in down town, this Best Western Plus is an fine place to stay when seeking a modern, typical, business class hotel. The staff is prompt, professional and courteous. Standard offerings of Wi-fi, business center, meeting rooms, 24 hour concierge, gym, transfer service, room service, and laundry service are all available. The rooms are clean with large windows, LED TVs, air con and private bathrooms. The pool is great. Situated on the roof top next to their "Sky Bar" it has glass window barriers on two sides and is a unique experience. I really enjoyed relaxing there. The restaurant, located in the main lobby, is excellent and offers international fare with a local twist. Travel anywhere with a taxi from the front door. If you have business near downtown Santa Marta, or just want a modern, classic place to stay while on vacation, this hotel will not disappoint.

The staff are awesome, but the hotel is noisy. The pool and bar are nice, where it is posible to have a downtown half view. The location of the hotel is perfectly, if you wanna enjoy the city or even travel to Tayrona Park and beaches of them.

Our second stay here and I recommend this to anyone going to Santa Marta The price is fair . The Breakfast is a buffet one with a great choice hot and cold dishes . The rooms are clean ,a good selection of TV channels in Spanish and English WIFI is good in rooms and lobby. ( can be a bit ropey on the top floor but still get a connection) . Normally a better rate booking direct but check at the time . Good facilities .We used the free PC on the 5th floor for researches for our travels . Would be great if they had balconies in the rooms but the skybar and pool is a great place to cool off and not too busy. You won't go wrong here . The Staff are very friendly and competent

We started here for 2 nights (Sunday & Monday) and primary reason for booking for the rooftop pool & bar area. Unfortunately the pool & sky bar are closed every Monday. This wasn't communicated at all at the time of booking or check in and we only discussed there on the Monday where we had already paid in full! Apart from that the hotel is reasonably priced, clean, offers free breakfast and about a 5 min walk from centre of the old town. If you're not interested in the pool (and there on a Monday) is a good functional option while In Santa Marta.

Santa Marta is one of the more hectic resorts but a good base to visit Tayrona , Cartengena and Palomino . BEST western are a good mid budget range whose service and facilities are consistent whether you are in Amsterdam Colombia or UK . The staff are happy and professional . The facilities are great. The price is reasonable. The only small criticism i have is that they only leave one coffee of caffeinated coffee and one decaf in the room which means me and my girlfriend have to fight over the caffeinated one . It would be great if this gets resolved for when we stay again

Some rooms have a beach view. Very good breakfast, good and quiet rooms, Excellent location and very good value for money. Small lobby, sometimes crowded. Very nice free breakfast and extremely friendly staff at the rrestaurant

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone! It's very clean and comfortable which is most important for me. It's location is fairly good, about a 6 minute walk to "parque de los novios" and about a 10 minute walk to the centro. The area looks a little skeptical because there is some construction going on right in front but overall the location is safe. The staff is very polite and friendly and super helpful. They called our cabs for us a few times, the receptionist even emailed us a copy of our passport for when we visited parque Tyrona because we forgot them in the room. The rooftop pool is great, and their 24hr gym is nice. I would stay here again!

Arriving in Santa Marta after 19 hours flying we wanted a hotel that wasn't expensive but had a pool so we could relax all day. This place is perfect. Amazing value, great sized room, comfortable bed, nice hot shower and a great pool. We eventually booked it again for a week later as we had one more night in Santa Marta. Definitely recommend for the price. There's only 1 thing that could have been better and that's the service at the pool bar. We ordered some food and drinks and it took around 45 mins for some basic food which then arrived pretty cold. We had to chase our drinks 3 times and they took the longest. It shouldn't take 45 mins for 2 drinks, especially when other people were ordering after us and getting theirs straight away. But overall I have to give this a 9.5 out of 10, I would definitely stay again.

Best choice we could have done , very well situated , close to "el parque de los novios" restaurants area , and they recommended us the best way to go the Tayrona Park in a tour. Very clean , every thing new . Breakfast could be better , but it's no bad either

We have stayed here on all four of our trips to Santa Marta. Fantastic value, super clean and majorly comfortable rooms, rooftop lounge and pool, full breakfast included! You would be crazy not to stay here.....there is no surprises or drama like at other places we have stayed!

This is a very nice hotel, the rooms are very nice, great view from the roof top, very good location near downtown, rodadero, taganga. Very good personal, and the buffet breakfast was excellent, with a high variety of options to eat.

Looked for a Hotel in Santa which had a pool and a gym. The Best Western Santa Marta is one of the hotels that has both. The staff is really friendly and attentive, and some members even speak english :). The food is actually a bit below expectation but will do just ok. The rooftop pool is great and quite big (although only 1 meter depth, so don't expect diving sessions ;). The gym has good and new equipment and is equipped with 2 a/c units which is just enough to cool it down into a sport ready temperature. The room is quite spacious, has a good bathroom and is equipped with a big and nice bed. Nice thing about the room is that it has a lot of sockets (even in the middle of the back of the bed, which is really handy when watching tv on the iPad. ) Overall really satisfied with this hotel.

A wonderful hotel, very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent sky bar and room have lots of space. Restaurants and super markets walking distance. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Nice work out facility

We stayed in a double room for three nights and enjoyed it very much. While not located directly in the city center the hotel is well within walking distance of the hot spots around parque de los novios. Some people in previous reviews complained about "paper thin walls" which is not entirely wrong - you do hear the sounds from people in the hallway, neighboring rooms and even the elevator ping several doors down but this is something we found to be a common standard in Colombia. All the places we stayed at had this problem yet this was the quietest and most relaxing nights we've had so far because you cannot hear the noise from the street and (maybe due to low season) there wasn't much other disturbance. The rooms are of normal size and very clean, we felt extremely comfortable. The roof top pool is a little highlight, but don't forget to bring sun glasses ;-) The staff was very friendly and helpful no matter what we asked for. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a clean, high-level western-standard hotel.

This is a new hotel, must have like 9 months. Cozy and clean rooms, great breakfast, friendly workers. Has parking included in price. The pool is not that deep (1mt), but is nice for relaxing, with a bar, a lounge and music. One block away from old town. Have stayed here twice and both were excellent experiences.

This is a great hotel with really nice bedrooms and a very convenient location near downtown. The only downside thing I can say is that the pool is not deep enough, water won't come up your weist in any point.

Staying at Best Western Plus Santa Marta was a pleasant surprise from beginning to end. The room was extremely comfortable, great tv, beautiful bathroom, great bed and matress, great fridge, fantastic view, excellent air conditioning, and superb cleanliness. The view of downtown Santa Marta is wonderful, the port of Santa Marta is completely visible. The pool on the top 16th floor is magical and the view from there of the rest of the city is enchanting. All personnel are all very helpful and friendly from the people in the reception all the way to the waiters at the lobby restaurant. On the fifth floor they have a business area with a printer, which suited me perfectly to make copies at any time with no inconviniences at all. It was a great stay with sensational meals and comfort.

The first night, there was a problem with the electricity in our hotel room, which was quickly resolved. The next morning, my wife locked the door to the bathroom, which could then not be opened for some reason. Someone from the staff came up and quickly got her out. We chalked it up to problems that could happen anywhere at anytime and not something specific to Best Western. They hotel gave us a gift basket of food with a note apologizing for the inconveniences. They could not have been more courteous and helpful during our stay. The "business room" on the fifth floor saved me during a surprise business-y thing I had to complete during my vacation. Also, the staff helped me out by scanning things for me at the front desk and emailing them to me when the scanner stopped working. Overall, the staff bent over backwards to make us feel comfortable. We loved this place. Some other reviews mentioned problems with sound-proof rooms. We never had any issues and in fact, the room was DEAD QUIET, which was a welcome change to the noise around Parque de los Novios.

Had a brilliant 3 week stay (minus 2 nights for visit to Palemeno). Hotel very new, very modern, very clean with great guest service on every occasion. Initially booked for 3 nights but liked it so much booked for rest of holiday. Staff very friendly, helpful and accommodating, had 3 different rooms - wanted to get as high as possible so moved up at every opportunity until hit floor 15 where we stayed. Bedrooms big - biggest bed ever and very comfortable. Safe in every room, good maid service, bathrooms good with towels changed on demand. Best of all most days we had the pool at the top and the sun terrace to ourselves- was like our own private pool. Gym well equipped. I had my birthday out here which they must have picked up from my passport and at breakfast they made a special effort with HappyBirthday and chocolate cake. Very nice touch Free wifi throughout hotel which was great.

4 night stay, Room 1114, Sept 1-5, 2016. A stain on the bathroom ceiling upon arrival hinted at a previous plumbing problem from upstairs. The first 3 nights, the water on the bathroom floor was tolerable and able to be absorbed by a towel. It's South America, after all; standards are low. At 1am on the fourth night, all hell broke loose and the bathroom had a torrential downpour. A call to the Desk and, voila, we're asked to pack up everything at that hour and move to a new room. The topper: the next day at checkout, there was no apology, no compensation, nothing mentioned about the sleepless night this problem caused. I expect better from an int'l chain such as BW, and called HQ. They said they'll send a card w/ credit for a night's stay. I ask myself, "WHY would I go back there after the complete lack of local sympathy for the problem they caused?". On the plus side, the b-fast buffet was good and included in the price and the pool has a great view from the roof. I would not trust this building as a safe one based on this experience. Built quick and cheaply.

Only four months old, the Best Western Plus in Santa Marta is a cosmopolitan and modern hotel. Perfect before and after a long trek in the Colombian jungle. Big comfy beds. Spacious, clean rooms. The bathrooms are modern and clean. They don't have all the high end amenities (USB charging ports etc) but hey, it's classy enough. Breakfast is a buffet but a little so so.... it's only average at best. Space is cramped in the cafe. Staff are friendly but check-in is tedious. The roodtop pool, though shallow (1m), is great and the view is sweeping. The gym is well.... not much unless you like a treadmill and a bike. Wi-Fi is free and pretty quick. Good place to stay in Santa Marta. Recommended.

Great, It is a modern hotel in Santa Marta, clean and with services like wifi, pool and gym. We had a great time in the hotel you would highlight the staff attitude, there are not problem related to noise from the street.

We were particularly keen to stay at this hotel during our trip to Santa Marta due to the 'sound proof rooms' advertised on the website. We were anticipating an early start every day including a one 5am wake up for a flight. First the pros: we found the rooms were large, clean, secure with huge, very comfy beds. Most of the staff we encountered were lovely and very helpful in assisting us to plan our excursions to Tayrona and Minca. The hotel's location is good, close to the centre of town where all the bars and restaurants are. The hotel's rooftop pool and adjacent bar are fantastic additions. The cons: First, there is definitely no sound proofing in this hotel. When we checked in we very quickly asked to move rooms because of the level of noise from the traffic outside, despite being on the 8th floor. We were moved to a room on the 14th floor only to be kept awake every night by the thumping bass from a local nightclub which didn't close until 3am. Whilst we appreciate that nowhere is silent, it is deceitful to advertise a hotel as 'soundproof' when the rooms aren't even double glazed, let alone void of any outside noises. We wouldn't have booked the hotel had we realised how little sleep we would get due to the noise. When we raised this with the staff they said they had frequent complaints about the noise from this club. Second, after a really long day spent hiking and then swimming at tayrona we arrived back to our hotel to find no water in our room whatsoever. When we managed to get hold of someone to discuss the problem we were told there was an issue throughout the hotel and there would be no water for at least an hour. At no point were we offered an apology in spite of this eating into our evening. Third, we kept finding that the water, when it was working, ran a funny orange colour which looked like excrement. Although we recognise that there are many positives to this hotel, our stay was unfortunately ruined by the lack of sleep caused by the noise. We're a young couple in our twenties and have stayed in hostels guest houses and hotels all over the world yet we both agreed that this hotel is possibly the worst for noise disturbance we have ever encountered. For a supposedly sound proof hotel that is by far not the cheapest in town this was more than disappointing. We would recommend that others go elsewhere, as there are plenty of alternatives in Santa Marta and around.

This is a brand new hotel near the city centre/old town of Santa Marta. 7 minute walk to the cathedral. Staff is lovely, rooms are spacious and very clean. Beds are very comfy! There is a roof top bar, pool and fitness centre also on the top floor. Free, fast wifi.

We came to Santa Marta for 2 nights before going to Parque Tayrona. Best Western is a new hotel with new staff, new rooms. Wifi was great in the room so we could work during the day. The staff was extra friendly and helped us get taxis, a bus and basically were very nice. Miguel, the bellboy was the best :) it was a bit cold in the hotel and windows didn't open but everything else was great for this location! The pool on top is cool as well!
