"Very comfy and affordable stay!"

I stayed at this hotel with a group of 4 people – we booked two rooms in order to get more space. The hotel is well located, not too far from the airport (approximately a 20 minute drive) and not too far from the city centre – we got around the town by driving and it was quite convenient (we rented a car). The facilities were pretty great - the hotel offers an outdoor swimming pool, laundry facilities (self-laundry), a gym (tiny), ice machine, snack machine (it was broken though) and decent-sized rooms. I booked two double rooms and both consisted of two double beds, a balcony, a bathroom (with tub), hair dryer and TV. Wi fi worked well during our stay, I don't recall having problems with it. Staff were great either, they were able to deal with all of our requests (plus they were kind). Breakfast was included in our package and it was a highlight – there are three options for breakfast: Denny's, a local restaurant (with a pub vibe) and a Casino restaurant – I went to Denny's everyday just because I am addicted to pancakes. Price was reasonable according to what was being offered, and to be quite honest we had a very good experience at this hotel. The only constructive feedback I would give to them is to improve the gym facilities (there are disparities regarding the website photo of the gym and its actual condition) – not because it is “bad”, but it could be improved. Overall we were very happy with this hotel and its highlights for us was the self laundry facilities available (very hard to find within San Jose) and the breakfast options. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking for comfort and economy – this was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our stay in Costa Rica.

"Great place to stay for a night before exploring Costa Rica after a long flight"

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night after a 10 hour flight from London before we drove to Tortuguero the following day. On arriving the staff were very friendly and helpful, they directed us to the restaurants where we could have our complimentary drink and breakfast in the morning and gave us some information about the area. The hotel itself was very clean and the pool area was pleasant, very good value for money. The restaurants where the breakfast is included are lovely and were open nice and early so we could start our journey early the next day. I'd definitely stay here again if I was returning to Costa Rica and needed a night in San Jose.

"Great hotel to stay one night around San Jose"

Rooms are spacious, modern and clean. There is nothing really exceptional but nothing bad either. It is just a good hotel close to the city. But the hotel is hudge with many many rooms, swimming pool in the center, jacuzzi

I have a timer for the last 36 years, never have had a bad experience. I love the location, close to San Jose downtown, but yet also close to the airport They also have a shuttle going to the airport, if you need one. They also have a Denny's restaurant right there in the building! Beautiful pool and Jacuzzi outdoors. I love the price, the staff, the way it looks, and the comfort of the rooms. I just realize this last visit, they have several washing machines and dryers available The rooms are quiet, the staff was friendly, and I love having a balcony looking at the pool. This is just some of the wonderful things I like about this hotel.

Jack showed outstanding service when we came back to the hotel after missing a flight. He gave us a great deal to extend our stay at the hotel. The service at the hotel is great! All the staff are really friendly and everything is very clean. The pool and hot tub add up to all the great things they have here. 10/10 would recommend!

"Great visit and easy transportation to the airport"

My family and I stayed at Best Western Plus the night before we flew out of Costa Rica to be closer to the airport. We wished we could have stayed another day to take advantage of the pool and hot tub. The room was clean and quiet and the breakfast which was include in the price was superb, complete with customized omelet bar, fresh fruit, pastries and a variety of freshly made breads. Delicious! We had an easy time of arranging the morning transportation to the airport and the driver was great in getting us there in plenty of time. We arranged and paid for the shuttle service the night before. There were a lot of student groups checking in which made the front desk a little busy. We ate at the Sangria retaurant in the main lobby and had an easy meal there with the bonus of free drink coupons. We walked around the corner to the grocery store for water and snacks and ran into some people who were under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The store security guard warned us not to leave site of our 11 year old daughter as he felt the people could be dangerous. We had no further problems and were grateful for the supplies. We had a great stay and appreciated being only 15 minutes from the airport on a Saturday morning. It should be noted that on Friday night in heavy traffic, the commute from the airport to the hotel was more like 40 minutes.

We are very glad that it was just great but from what you mentioned regarding the complimentary breakfast, you stayed at the Best Western Plus instead of at Best Western Irazu (which also offers complimentary breakfast but from the restaurants and from the casino in our premises as options, not the buffet that is served at the Best Western PLUS). Even though both hotels share the same front desk, public areas and are both located in the Irazu Complex, they are different hotels which offer different rates and provides different type of accommodations and services. We stayed here with a group of 28. Each person received a drink ticket and breakfast ticket. Great facility for laundry, swimming, hot tub, and socializing. Not too far from the airport (10-15 minutes) and a grocery store next door was convenient for picking up snacks.

I brought a soccer team from the USA to Costa Rica to experience the culture, country and people and we made the wise decision to stay at the Best Western Irazu in San Jose. The staff was so friendly and very professional. Staff members like Dayana went the extra mile to make our stay at the hotel so extra friendly. "Last stay at Best Wstern Irazu"

The Best Western Irazu is very good, but it was better. Bills contains cost that was not created and you see it when you are not longer in the hotel. The breakfast at the Dennis is also getting less and less from time to time. Increase a little bit the price and keep / mantain tthe

Me and my wife stayed there for five nights, first of all the people were just great and courteous, the facilities were as we expected, it has all what you need if you are staying in, a pool and jacuzzi, a running or walking path, internet room with hot and fresh coffee all the time, a gym, laundry room and a Casino. As for meals they provide a complimentary breakfast that you can choose from Dennys Rest., Sangria Bar or the Casino launch. We only used the facilities to sleep in.

"Stinky rooms"

Our room had a horrible smell of mildew. In order to heyyyyyy rid of the smell, they wanted us to pay an extra $20 a night to beon the new side. So we had to deal with it. I don't think that was fair. You should not have to pay for a normal smelling room.

"OK hotel; nice staff; poor breakfast"

Used this hotel for 5 days as it was close to the company we used for tours (Sol Tropical). It was reasonably priced and adequate for our needs. We were pleased our GF room faced an enclosed central area with nice gardens and the pool and jacuzzi. The hotel is right next to the Pan American Highway and surrounded by other busy roads, so we suspected that rooms facing outwards might be noisy. The room itself was a decent size and was adequate in most respects. The a/c and bathroom were dated, but functional. The room could have done with a small fridge, but there was an ice bucket and an ice machine not far from the room. Staff were friendly and helpful. The one irritating thing was the breakfast - which was included in the room rate. The hotel gave each guest a voucher for each day which could be exchanged for breakfast in one of three concessions (restaurants/bars) located within the hotel. It was clear that either the hotel paid the concessions insufficient money to provide a decent breakfast, or the concessions ripped-off the "captive" diners.

"Great hotel to stay at"

Stayed 3 nights at the hotel, would recommend it to others. Rooms were clean, quiet and modern. The hotel price was fair. We did not have time to use any of the facilities unfortunately such as the large swimming pool, hot tub, gym, etc. They do not have an on-site restaurant which is a shame so they issue you b'fast vouchers ($10/day) to use at 3 different restaurants including the casino and Dennys, both are next door to the hotel which is handy. However I would have preferred an on-site restaurant for speediness. Service was reasonably good when we asked for additional items such as spare pillows and blankets, however it took them a long time to bring up the blankets (45 mins to 1 hr) when initially they said it would only take a few mins. I had almost gone to sleep by then. To summarize, I would stay there again.

"Tour to Tortuga Island"

Booked a tour from their tour desk. Included in the tour was a ride on a banana boat. When preparing for the ride on the banana which carries about 7 people, they make you use a helmet (helmet in deep water??), and a life vest ( this one makes sense, as you will be in deep waters). Then, during the ride, they flip the banana so that you fall in the water. When this happened, the person riding in front of me fell helmet on to my chest. The blow had tremendous force. So much, that fractured my clavicle in three places. This happened at 1:00pm. Had to wait two hours until the catamaran arrived to the island, then two-hour ride on the catamaran to Punta Arenas, and then two-hour bus ride to San Jose to the Cima Clinic (hospital). By the time I saw a doctor, it was 7:30pm. They didn't even think about leaving me in the hospital before dropping people at their hotels. Not even a first aid kit, sling, nothing. Fortunately, I had a sweater that an American nurse that was on the tour used on me to immobilize the arm. They finally left me at the gate of the hospital (the driver didn't want to drive me to the main door of the hospital because he had to go around the block). Once there, they said good luck with your arm. All doctors, in San Jose, and my home country couldn't understand why you have to wear a helmet in a water activity. They said fortunately they hit my chest, and not my face. This tour company didn't respond for anything. Not even a phone call for a follow up on me. Needless to say, my vacation in Costa Rica was over, and left me with a bad memory of it ?? had to undergo surgery, and I am just now starting to recover.

"Lower your expectations "

Room needs refurbishing, old and stains on carpet and walls. No fridge or microwave. WiFi doesn't reach the room. Shower not hot. Tv every Chanel and sub titles in Spanish so can't even watch tv. Staff are friendly pool is nice but jacuzzi is small

Our front desk staff would have also send a plumber to see fix the shower that was not heating. Our Management is already aware about the issue with the free wifi and are doing everything they can to fix the problem as soon as possible. "Affordable hotel near the airport"

The hotel is a $25 taxi ride from the airport. They offered a shuttle, but we had trouble finding it when we landed. The hotel gives coupons for free breakfast and a free drink when you arrive: there is a Denny's attached and an open air bar/restaurant at the hotel.

"Reasonable Stay"

Reasonable 3 nights stay. Nice large clean rooms, small bathroom with no racks for bath linen, no shelves for bath amenities in shower although they encourage reuse of bath linen. Basic amenities. Minibar bottled water at$5 too expensive. Food in Sangria bar not recommended. Wendy's serves better quality food and quick service. staff at both the restaurants are very good. Breakfast in the lounge excellent. would be great if they can keep house flies away from the open settings and cover cut fruits that's laid out in the breakfast buffet. Recommended rooms with pool view with balconies. Road side rooms with out. 15 minutes drive from airport. not sure of free airport shuttle as I had some transport arranged.

"Clean, Good Service"

We ended up staying at this hotel inadvertently after the airline cancelled our flight out. Imagine an entire plane full of people being sent to this hotel in busses and everyone checking in at once. The hotel handled the situation with grace and warm, friendly service. Rooms were clean and comfortable. They had t.v., wifi, a pool and hot tub, and there was a Denny's restaurant attached, as well as a bar. Not really the way we envisioned our Costa Rican vacation ending, but I have to say we were impressed with how smoothly things went. If you're okay with staying at an American chain, this hotel is a reliable spot.

The hotel has very pretty grounds and a gorgeous pool. The rooms are nice and clean the sangria restaurant and bar is pleasant and the food is good but there are not enough waiters or waitresses. Tot takes too long to be waited on.

It is a great place to stay when you visit costa rica, close to airport, the capital San jose, they have grayline tours, just minutes by taxi or shuttle to everywhere. The staff all around is friendly, helpful & go out of there way for all your needs. Clean rooms, lobby, everywhere you go, restaurants and staff go out of there way for all your food needs. Free breakfast was outstanding. We loved staying here and will be coming back soon.

I've stayed at this property several times now, and continue to like it for its ease of use and friendly professionalism. I recently arrived with my family to San Jose airport via a red-eye flight. The hotel shuttle bus driver was waiting for us at the airport and brought us to the hotel where we were able to check in early and get a couple hours' sleep before enjoying the pool and local restaurants. The shuttle allowed me to rent a car from Alamo using the in-hotel office and avoid paying the high airport fee for rentals, plus save on one day of rent. The car was delivered right to the hotel. Pool was great, grounds are beautiful and the room was comfortable. Breakfast (included) was available at 3 different locations, including the Denny's next door, which made our transition to CR nice and easy.

"Stayed twice in a week during Costa Rica tour, it's ok"

Best Western Irazu was booked for our tour group to start and finish our tour of Costa Rica in April - conveniently located and reasonably priced. As we say in the UK, the Best Western Irazu does what it says on the tin. It is competitively priced. Rooms are rather dated, lift (elevator) did not work to get to the second floor so, you guessed it, we were on the second floor. We got another room all fine. When we returned to the Best Western Irazu at the end of the trip, they had lost our reservation which was a world of hassle. But to be fair that may have been booking.com error and not the Best Western. You get some free breakfast and drinks vouchers which makes the value offering even better - Costa Rica as a country is over-priced or at least fully priced in my opinion. April seems to be peak season. The Best Western Irazu is quite well located, traffic around San Jose is no joke so make sure you get your location stay right. Overall Best Western Irazu is fair, and there is no too much else to write about it

"Outside of edge of town and good location for leaving from the airport"

This was a pretty standard Best Western and had a few things that I found helpful for the San Jose area. First, it is great for a single night stay on your way out of CR. It has a washing machine and dryer available so you can do your laundry prior to leaving. They are right on the highway that leads to the airport so there is no fighting to get through the city on exit. They used to have a gratis bus to the airport but I believe they charge for it now, but still reasonable. Check with them on this. Downstairs is a small casino with a great Happy Hour so you can party a little. The free breakfast is at the adjacent Denny's and they are a fun crowd with the familiar Denny's menu, who I happen to think make a great breakfast! There is also a nice pool that I did not swim in but which looked very inviting. Most of the interior rooms open on to the pool area so it is a good spot to decompress. All in all I was pleasantly surprised.

This hotel was neat and clean. We only stayed for our first night. The room was on the second floor, nice and clean and overlooked a beautiful pool area. Service is not their strong suit. We were ask if we needed help with our luggage upon check-in and when we said yes, the women seemed annoyed. Breakfast was included, there was a choice of three places, however, once again, service wasn't very good in the hotel restaurant. Checking out the next day, called down to front desk to get assistance with the luggage, no one answered the phone. When we got down to the front desk with our luggage, there were 5 employees just standing around talking. Terrible customer service!! All that being said, for the price, it was neat and clean and doable for one night.

"Check the upcoming events before you book"

Since my birthday is in March, I always have difficulties booking hotels without an abundance of rowdy young folks. I arrived on March 7 and stayed until the 11th. The airport pick up service was great and reasonable for the distance of the airport, approximately 20 mins. The driver was there and was very friendly but spoke little english which I found in most of the service. Upon arrival, I was able to check in since I missed my flight the night before, so my room was still available. I did however have difficulties trying to contact them to let them know, as I booked through Otel. I wind up calling the customer service line for Best Western and after a transfer, I was assured they would and did send an email to the property. I didn't realize there was a high school tennis tournament going on, so the lobby was full of kids. This was the first and second night and also my room was facing the pool which became very loud. One night, a group was out there screaming and yelling and I had to contact the front desk. Unfortunately, they were not that fast at getting there and I wind up yelling at them to shut up! The next day, another group of kids came in for a fencing match, we are talking about 100 or so kids. They were some what late arrivals, which means they were up all hours of the night. The following day, they had a group of pep squad dancers. They weren't so bad but there was a lot of them. The room was nice and decent especially for the price. You do have a security box which is very nice and the housekeeping service is pretty prompt but not efficient. I had two glasses from drinks, they never removed. Expect to arise by 8-9am as this is when you will hear several shutting of doors. The bar service at the Sangria was poor and as a single traveler, I felt I was not receiving good service there. I sat at the bar for 10 minutes as the bartender needed to finish washing his glasses before he would get me a drink. My last evening, I ate there on the outside patio. There were several occupied tables and when my plate was picked up, the server never returned to ask if I wanted anything else or even to give me my check. I clocked him and waited 40 minutes and within those 40 mins, he went to the other tables several times. I finally got up, walked out and went down stairs to the casino. I sat at the bar, got prompt service and imagine this, the waiter found me with my ticket. It's not that I wasn't going to pay, I just got tired of being ignored and lacking of the poor service he once again gave me. The Denny's breakfast is limited but still very good. The service in there was excellent and I recommend eating there outside of the free breakfast. I went in there for my birthday dessert, but they didn't have any vanilla ice cream or apple pie. The pie wasn't going to be done for another hour and half. The waiter felt so bad, that he gave me the chocolate cake free. Now that's what I call Customer Service! The casino had a lady sing with a beautiful voice, however, there was so much talking you could barely hear her. I wish there was another room and would have liked a place to go dancing. Overall, I was not too disappointed but would have preferred a place where there wasn't an abundance of screaming kids.

I had a wonderful time and experience staying at the best Western hotel.The best western staff is well trained and do everything to make certain that I had the best stay. Dayana and Marcela added tremendous value to my stay. They always served me with kindness, a smile, and a servant heart. They would always ask if there's anything additional they could do to better serve me and enhance my experience. They made my stay very comfortable and enjoyable. They are always prompt and ready to serve and do whatever is necessary to address my needs and answer my questions. I enjoyed their service and our interactions, it was always pleasant. They provided excellent customer service. Ms Daisy went above and beyond to serve and add value. I had shirt that i left on the Ironing board that I needed to iron. While in between training sessions, I thought I would come back and iron it because I was pressed for time. Ms Daisy ironed the shirt for me without asking and it was truly a life because I would not have time to iron it. "The BW Irazu and the Best Western Plus in San Jose CR are the same hotel"

From the websites it appears that the BW Irazu and the BW plus are separate buildings, but they are not. One wing of the building is the BW Irazu and the other wing is the BW Plus. They share the same lobby and check in desk, but there is a difference. Our first encounter, before we even got to the hotel was not meeting us at the airport. I specifically called the hotel 2 days before we were to arrive for their van to pick us up. After landing and searching for the van and not finding, someone offered to call the hotel. He was told there was no van scheduled to pick us up. We had to take a taxi to the hotel at around $20. That was only the beginning. Our confirmation indicated we were staying at the BW Plus, however we were told from behind the counter that their copy of the confirmation was for a stay at the BW Irazu. The person behind the counter was adement that he could not do anything for us, that we would have to contact the company that actually booked the room. He also balked that the price we were paying was too low to be a stay at the Plus. The manager refused to come and speak to us. This was late Saturday so we could not contact the booking company In order to resist going ballistic (not good for a tourist in a foreign country) we took the BW Irazu room, The room was clean, but not refurbished this millenium. The walls were tissue paper thin. Our next door 'neighbors' were from hell. Screaming and carrying on until 2:30 AM. Banging on the wall only brought banging from them and an attempt to enter our room. A call to the front desk did nothing to alleviate the problem. Also everyone walking in the hallway sounded like a freight train rumbling through. We had to endure 2 nights of this side of the hotel. Fortunately our 'neighbors' did leave after the first night. Breakfast was provided by Denny's or 2 other adjoining motel restaurants with a limited menu available. The staff at Denny's was very nice with the food fresh and hot. Our nightmare ended on Monday when we were able to contact our agency. We did stay at the BW Plus for another week. Free Wifi, free breakfast. Always coffee in the computer room. Pool area is clean, but can be noisy. No real shade. Lounge chairs are the worst I have ever sat in (fallen into). And by the way, if you want Kleenex/tissues, bring your own. They will supply you with a tiny 8 tissue pack if you request. Please refer to my review for the BW Plus

"Coming back from Zancudo Beach"

Daniel Kelch was our customer service helper. We were tired from a very hectic trip. Coming from Zancudo the Captain of our boat taxi RAN OUT OF GAS in the middle of ocean. And the story went on and and on! Now, here at Best Western Plus, we encountered Daniel who “bent over backwards” TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE US FEEL WELCOMED and comfortable. He is charming, pleasant, and a real asset to the hotel. We, my husband and I, highly recommend this young man as a fine employee who will help the reputation of Best Westerns nation wide! Awful customer service, we were told every two hours that room was almost ready. Then saw many people check in ahead of us. You must speak Spanish to even be noticed. Would not stay here again even if it was free.

"Nice stay in hotel several nights and some meals at Denny's connecte to hotel."

Since the Denny's is connected to the hotel I will review both here I guess. Check in at the hotel was pretty standard in the attractive, abundantly marble lobby. The check-in clerk was quite new (only 5 days by his account) so questions had to be answered in a bit of a delayed fashion as he departed into back office for advice. None the less, he was quite friendly and helpful. He apparently did receive some bad information though as he informed me that my room would need to be changed the following day which turned out to be a mistake. The room was clean, a bit dated, and tended to smell some of cleaning solution, not terrible but noticeable. The bed was quite comfortable and I slept well. There is an air conditioner but I never used it because there is a nice little balconey with a door out to it which can be propped open and fresh air allowed inside day or night. On the 4th floor there was no concern about intruders. The electrics all work fine and are the same as USA. There is a nice small desk and chair to work on, which in my case proved very useful. It also has a typical in-room coffee maker and TV. My view was of the city over the tops of close-by buildings and at night is rather attractive. There is a beautiful pool area just off the lobby that is better than most in my opinion. Two meals at Denny's proved a success. The first was free with a coupon every guest receives. It was for breakfast and from a limited menu which was acceptable. I tried something new to me and local, Gallo Pinto with Cafe con leche. It's a plate of spicy rice and beans beside, in my case scrambled eggs but your choice, and toast with great Costa Rican coffee and milk. It was quite nice for a light breakfast. Not sure it would ever become a habit with me but it was not at all bad. Another day I opted for the French Toast.

Stayed at the hotel for the he night before heading to the airport which was about a 15 minute taxi ride (25$). Rooms were a bit small but clean, Casino located at the lower level has a few tables and slot machines. There's a Denny's and Sangria's Bar and restaurant food and beverage were average. Overall this is a nice hotel to stay at.

I've stayed here many times over the years, great pool area and the hotel has been updated..The Casino also got an upgrade and the proximity to the airport or city is great. Also there are a few restaurants right there and a few shops etc and a grocery store right next door. Great place and fair prices (under 100$ US) I'll be back

Nice hotel for a Best Western,,, Wi-Fi is intermittent have to keep sign on when using it. Denny's is a good place to eat breakfast, friendly staff. Friendly Staff. Nice Casino!! Close to airport about 10 to 15 minutes....

A last minute emergency change brought us to airport on busy High Season Friday. The only rooms available turned out to be premium room king bed. Initially disappointed about $8pp new shuttle charge from airport but entered a beautifully redone room that was spotless and every amenity. Something new with this room was The Club Room breakfast inclusion. This was such a delight! Fabulous dining salon with choice of al fresco dining by waterfall and beautifully groomed expansive area between the two buildings, so green with immense pool and just gorgeous and restful landscaping, or in salon dining. Fabulous, gracious wait staff and eggs/French toast prepared for you and the loveliest and largest fresh breakfast buffet so beautifully and invitingly displayed. Tranquil and delicious. I also was able to have a 90 minute Spa experience ($1/minute) combining a therapeutic massage followed by reflexology. This was one of the most gracious, thorough, professionally done massages I've ever had, written as a physician and yoga teacher. Our experience has turned an unfortunate dental emergency into a 24 hour oasis! More than worth it to spend more for the premium room which was such a bargain to us States people who live in Costa part time! Can't wait to return! P.s. Uber is an easy and quick fix to the shuttle!

Got in late and took a taxi of course as shuttle was not available. Had to switch rooms due to very thin walls and things going on I didn't want my child to hear . Staff was all very nice . Maids were kind but want you out ASAP. They took away our do not disturb sign which I've never experienced before. Was very surprised to see them entering the room. Only here for ten hours so we couldn't use the welcome drinks which are only valid for 4-7pm. Not a big deal but kind of uncool to advertise it. Couldn't use the hot tub under maintenance pool was being cleaned all morning too. It's fine for a one night jumping point but otherwise no.

Front desk staff were extremely slow. We were charged for our shuttle that was listed in our travel itinerary as "complimentary". The Hotel is not clean. Carpets are grubby and worn. The door to our room barely closed. The floor was so dirty that it transferred onto the sheets from our feet. We were very happy to leave here and would rate this hotel very low, and have cancelled our return stay. We arrived late and considerable amount of noise from other rooms were guests were partying.

Large hotel in a great location with plenty of amenities to keep you entertained. Rooms are large and comfortable if not a little dated.....very clean but a bit tired......refurbishment/modernisation needed. Staff are very friendly and helpful but the check in was painfully slow and a bit chaotic. This said I left my mobile at the check in desk and it was returned to me before I had noticed it was missing.... excellent service ..... thank you. Overall a great stay.

"Not the best place"

The lobby and pool area look really nice, but the room was really outdated and things were in need of repair. There were stains in places. The A/C unit made a clanging noise when it was running. The people in the next room were fighting and yelling all night, as well as running their TV all day and night. Very noisy. We told the front desk about this. We never could find their "free breakfast buffet" so ended up eating at the Denny's next door. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

"Good place to land"

We didn't have high expectations - we had to reschedule flights last minute and hadn't planned on being in San Jose, so this was a quick booking to stay just overnight and then head to La Fortuna. It was a nice surprise - the pool area is lovely, the reception staff were all very nice when we dragged our tired, frazzled, flight dazed selves into their lobby late at night. The bed was pretty comfortable for a mid-range hotel. The inner courtyard was quiet and we were not disturbed by traffic at all. We also didn't have high hopes for a decent dinner so late, but Sangria is right in the hotel and looked ok. We had our first experience with arroz con pollo, and it was an awesome way to start our trip. So yummy. We went back to Sangria for the breakfast included with the room - best part of that was the very friendly service. The breakfast was a good size and easily lasted us until an early dinner in La Fortuna that evening. We will definitely stay here again if we're travelling through San Jose on our second visit to Costa Rica. The Alamo right outside is great if you're renting a car, the hotel stay gives you a discount there, and shuttle pick up at the hotel through Interbus was very easy to arrange as well.

Stayed here for one night in order to catch an early flight. We booked and _pre-paid_ through Air Canada's website as it offered the best deal we could find. We ran into one problem when checking in. The person checking us in insisted that I had to pay for the room. He had already put in my credit card number and gave me the slip to sign for $66 US. I showed him the booking receipt from Air Canada which stated "Your room has been booked and _paid_ for." (Before leaving I checked our VISA account, the pre-payment had been charged to our card.) He stated that there was a difference between what the website had charged me and what was owed. I continued to insist that we had paid. Eventually, another person working at the desk told him to call reservations and sort things out. After doing this, he said we were right and we owed nothing. He said that the charge was supposed to go to Air Canada's account, not my credit card. I think the desk staff should have an understanding of how third-party bookings work inside their system, so a bit more training might be required. We got two free drinks at any of the Hotel restaurants and free breakfasts at Denny's. Those went off without a hitch. The room was clean and served our purposes just fine. Typical hotel room. Be aware that the airport shuttle costs $8.00 US per person (this is clearly stated on their website). This is a good deal if traveling alone, but if you're traveling with 2 or more folks, you can take a taxi for less (about $12).

Rooms are clean and staff helpful and friendly. Ideally located close to the airport and available shuttle for cheap. We loved the free welcome drink and free breakfast. Also we loved gambling at the casino! Highly recommend.

When I first checked in, I was met by Norma, one of the staff, with a key to my room, she offered that if I wasn't happy with the room, she would arrange to change it. I was very happy with the room, 2 double beds, patio, coffee maker SAFE, for my passport . .I had the hotel arrange four separate tours for me Daniel Kelch, was more than helpful in his recommendations, I enjoyed the tours immensely. Also I had tickets, for breakfasts in 3 separate restaurants surrounding and inside the hotel.Daniel also arranged taxis to take me to certain locations. There was an easy to use computer room with fresh coffee, and at least 6 internet computers. WiFi was free in all rooms.

EXCELLENT this is better than any Best Western in the states... room is big king room with balcony over looking the pool very tropical quite.. clean all the help very helpful ...next door grocery store, pharmacy sea food, restaurants .. I have never had a bad meal in CR I have traveled CR for the past 17 years .. I have had many different foods all great with fun wonderful experiences .. from the BW hotel I travel to the pacific and the Caribbean day trips spoke out returning to the BW...staying 10 days or more... Thank you Costa Rica..they call me a Tica..

I stayed at The Best Western Irazu from December 23 2017 until January 6 2018 after changing my Trip plans from Nicaragua to Costa Rica earlier in the year.This is a different experience for me since I usually prefer All Inclusive Trips but I was in Panama in late 2012 I enjoyed the different vibe of that Country then compared to Mexico,Cuba e.t.c. so this was another chance to visit this part of Central America Costa Rica didn't disappoint me I really liked it I just wish I had seen a bit more of it like Jaco e.t.c. First off i'd like to say that just like The Playa De Oro in Manzanillo Mexico this isn't the fanciest Hotel I've ever stayed at but this is a bit more upscale than that but the Staff here just like PDO like Bell Boy Daniel Kelch ,All The Front Desk personnel ,Kevin Najarez from Gray Line Tours are all great at giving you helping you out in anyway like giving you info about San Jose e.g. what Buses to take to get around in San Jose they even print what Bus line to take plus info overall about Costa Rica.The Hotel is smaller in size it's easy to navigate your way around it you have to take an Elevator down a floor to get to the Casino from The Front Lobby I liked this it was there but of the way I only went down there to eat a few times the food wasn't bad there it was a lot cheaper than Denny's but nowhere near as good.I ate almost every Morning at The Denny's with the free Breakfast Tickets the BWI gave you when you checked in you had a choice of Sangrias,The Casino or Denny's of where you could eat at the Breakfast at Sangrias was served from 7 AM to 10 AM,The Casino 5.30 AM to 11 AM and Denny's a lot earlier like 3 or 4 AM in The Morning which was good if you had an Tour Activity and were getting picked at 6-7 AM at The Hotel to do the excursion.There's a small unheated Swimming Pool in the middle of the nice looking Courtyard that has a funky painted Cow statue there's another different Cow statue plus a small piggy bank below it in the scenic back Palm Tree Area of the Resort so neat and different ..lol! I also saw a Jacuzzi overlooking the Courtyard plus an ice machine on The second floor that came in handy when i filled my cooler bag with drinks think Daniel told me there's another one on The Fourth Floor as well.A Gym is located at Lobby level I was in Room L80 it was down the end of the hall on the right hand side I think that was also the emergency exit location.I also liked the fact that this a quiet Hotel you don't really have that much noise after 10 PM so you can sleep peacefully unlike some Hotels I've stayed at in the past.I was originally on the second Floor in Room 286 but moved to L80 after 2 Nights I had an adjoining door besides my room entrance door in Room 286 that you could hear the TV in the next door room a lot if they had it turned up loud.So all & all this was a good Trip I prefer being near a Beach I would say if you're staying in San Jose for a more than a Week try to see other parts of Costa Rica it's a unique small rugged beautiful Country that kind of reminds of being like a Latin Version of Scotland.I was late in leaving San Jose Airport on Saturday Afternoon I was supposed to fly out at 12.30 PM on AeroMexico Flight AM 691 the plane didn't leave until after 1.20 PM this meant the plane landed in Mexico City at 4.35 PM.The Mexican Customs Official smiled at me when he asked me when my connecting Flight AM 694 to Vancouver B.C. was at 5.45 PM I knew right then that this wasn't my day.There were also other Tourists on Flight AM 691 making connections to Holland,different parts of the USA e.t.c. I also wonder how many of them didn't get home on time as well.I got to the gate a 5.35 PM they wouldn't let me board the plane to go back to Vancouver even though it was still hooked up to The Jet.I then asked the attendant at gate 62 what I was supposed to do he gave me a look of indifference and told me to go to customer service it wasn't his problem thanks for the help Amigo.I then had to the fun of trying to find a person that spoke English who could direct me to Customer Service to get another Flight and get my checked Suitcase and that isn't easy to do in that Airport.I finally came across a really nice helpful Lady in The AeroMexico VIP Lounge who was a lot more helpful than some of those other AeroMexico Employees at that Airport if it wasn't for that Lady's assistance I might still be there.I finally after about 45 minutes managed to get my bag I had to unload and get my carry on checked about 3 times I finally left Mexico City on Flight AM 696 to Vancouver at about 1.15 AM Sunday Morning.I finally got home to YVR at around 5.30 AM Sunday Morning I've never been so happy and relieved to be back home than I was on that day. AeroMexico I have a few issues with you poor customer service/help,a valid/real/reasonable reason about why that plane was so late in arriving & departing from San Jose and why after flying with you twice that I should ever use your Airline ever again.I have flown into Toronto from Jamaica on WestJet and had a connecting Flight back to Vancouver they wait sometimes 20-30 minutes after they are supposed to and adjust the departure time for Vancouver if they know there's passengers coming in on another connecting WJ Flight who are going back to Vancouver as well so please don't tell me Pearson is a small Airport so they're able to do this it isn't they have many Daily Flights out of that Airport as well. I am happy to have a few more Trips coming up in 2018 i'm glad that I won't be flying on AeroMexico or going through Mexico City Airport anytime soon the chances of me trying the former are very remote indeed my advice is you have a choice between AeroMexico or other Airlines for a Trip Destination think twice before you use AeroMexico yes they're a big Airline but not in my opinion not a very good Airline i'll use Air Canada or especially WestJet any day over AeroMexico end of my wrong negative choice.I loved all the different beers from around The World that were available in Costa Rica I liked Bavaria from Costa Rica and OranjeBoom from The Netherlands I think Costa Rica in my opinion might have a better beer selection than either Western Canada and Mexico combined.My next Trip is soon and a direct one so that's a good thing I think of a TV Programme with a catchy theme song with my late Childhood Heroes Danny Wilde in a Ferrari and Brett Sinclair in an Aston Martin racing each other to see who gets to the Hotel first in Monaco in The South of France that's my type of fun/action with a bit of Champagne to top off that Jet Set Lifestyle.. ha! ha! Please keep the Brut Sparkling Wine chilled hopefully I've got a few more stops to go before I join you at the bar guys.

"Airline choice for cxl flight"

Our airline sent us to this hotel after our flight was canceled for one night. The staff was friendly and accommodating for all of the Westin heavy passengers. It took about 15 minutes to get there from the airport, chicken was fast, there is a very large pool that looked inviting. We went to both the hotel restaurant as well as the Denny's next to it. They had set menus for our flight vouchers and the food / drinks were fine. Room was comfortable, bathroom large and functional and overall hotel was good. It didn't seem like there was much in the local area to see or do but for a one night stop waiting for a flight it was sufficient.

"Amazing renewal!"

My wife, some friends and I booked on 31 Dec 2017 for the New Year's Eve celebration. This was the first time we went to this hotel after its renovation as “Best Western Plus” and we must say that the changes were very visible and positive. Location: Located over the highway between San José and the Juan Santamaría international airport, and just 1 km away from San José downtown, this is a very convenient place for anyone who wants to have everything close or even to work. Infrastructure: The improvements made to the hotel are very nice. The pool has always been big and clean. The new club lounge is very nice and modern. Despite this hotel is old, the revewals have made it feel like a new one. Room: This was the best part of our stay. My wife and I stayed here some months ago and honestly did not like it too much. However, the renewals have made it very well and now our room felt like completely new and modern! The furniture has a great comtemporary design and was perfect for our needs. The bed is very comfortable now. The carpet has a new design that can only be found in high-class hotels. The bathroom is gorgeous and big. Overal, the room is very clean, comfortable, modern and could not ask for more. Staff: This has not changed - the staff has always been very friendly and willing to help with everything. Food: Due to the New Year's Eve package, we had the chance to have breakfast at the new club lounge, which apparently is only for premium members. The buffet was great, with a satisfying variety of options, and the food itself was delicious. In a regular stay, the hotel offers tickets for free continental breakfast at Denny's (which is part of the hotel), but if you do not want the continental breakfast you can still use the tickets as discount for your prefered meal (anyways, Denny's is a great place to eat.) Conclusion: We are definitively looking forward to stay in this hotel again!!!

Very nice hotel with nice staff. Nice pool. Near to a supermarket and good restaurants. If your are a vegan, there is not so many options in the restaurants but they try to help you as much as they can.

Excellent hotel in San Jose Costa Rica. The rooms are amazing. We enjoyed the pool and the infinity spa. Everybody was very nice. This was our third visit and I enjoy more every time. They have a bar Sangria and I suggest you have your breakfast there, because Denny's can take forever. The hotel allows you to have breakfast at Denny's or at Sangria. Be careful Sangria opens at 7 in the morning. They have wifi in the lobby. There are restaurants close by.

Their is a sense that check-in is just robotic. I am close to 70 years old and they give me a room at the end of building's long corridor, knowing I am a senior?? Then upon arriving to my room, pulling the luggage behind me, irritated and angry...wondering why the front desk would not know better, so I have to go back, ask for a change. Sure, they were amiable about the change, and did so.....but then I had to go back, get the luggage and change rooms. Then my nephew, who paid a higher costs for his rooms, premium, 3 rooms....they put him on street side, so he too had to go explain what he paid for the rooms, and wanted better rooms for his family, then again they changed (rooms were all ready available????) The only time things worked was when the manager was there to resolve issues quickly. Plus, pool was very cold, and people were walking away from the Jacuzzi. I asked one person and they said it was cool?? Do I recommend this hotel, sure....but make sure you get what you paid for.

This place has a very nice lobby, cool casino and bar area with a hard rock restautant onsite also..the area is also very nice with a nearby mall...only downside is the rooms are a bit outdated. Overall we had a nice stay

This is a very nice hotel for anyone looking for a place to stay in San Jose for a reasonable price. We were there for 6 days and enjoyed our stay. Very nice rooms, excellent service with two restaurants to choose from. Well located and close to most tourist attractions. Highly recommended.

The rooms are old but the hotel is nice. The pool area is unique (20m pool) and the garden is well maintained. The FO staff was helpful and the 24/24 breakfast is an excellent idea. The casino is also great. If the hotel renovates their rooms - it will probably be one of the best in town. Quality / Price - good match.

Gift shop charged $4 US for bottle of water, $20 US for much needed aloe. Prices were not always marked. There is a fairly big store a block away with Costa Rican pricing. Hotel staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, friendly: they answered all of our questions or directed us to staff that knew. Computers available free to guests, no waiting 6 or more computers available. Would go there again, for sure. Whole family had favorite spots nice decor, spacious.

People there were very kindle they help us with ours tours. The pool was good and the jacuzzi was clean and hot. Hotel has a Dennys restaurant near the food there is good but is american style,its better than the Sangria restaurant service there were bad also the food.

We actually stayed here twice, as the hotel was the starting and ending point of our adventures in Costa Rica. There is a Denny's onsite, a market within 3 minutes walking, and you can get UBER to pick you up to go downtown San Jose which is less than 3 miles. THe hotel is very chic for a Best Western, and the free coffee in the lobby is fantastic. WIFI was amazing fast, and staff was friendly.

Spent 5 days at this place and it's location was perfect for our extensive tours throughout the country. Our room was clean and well-appointed except for the outdated cottage-cheese ceiling. Our balcony looked over a beautiful garden and pool. The fitness center had plenty of equipment and free weights. The casino was fun, though short of video poker machines. Hotel restaurant Sangria offered good selection of local food.

We were here for one night waiting to go to our Ecoterra tour and they arranged for us to stay here. This is an upscale chain hotel and the lobby, front desk, and lounge area were beautiful. The large pool and garden area were gorgeous. The room was clean and comfortable and we had a balcony. We received a free drink at Sangria Bar. We also had dinner at Sangria Bar and the waitress was friendly. The front desk staff was efficient and the guards spoke to us. We had to leave very early and did not have time to go to our free breakfast. My husband asked Dennys if we could have water and they gave some to us. We recommend this hotel.

Good hotel, good prices. Decent food on premises, small bar and your neighborhood Denny´s. Hotel staff was having a tough time on 22feb as they had to take a full flight that was delayed / cancelled. Nevertheless, they kept their cool. On check out, it was a breeze. Was out in 5 minutes.

"Americanized Hotel in the City"

I was put up in this hotel by my airline when my flight was cancelled and was impressed by it. The rooms were by far the most Americanized I came across in Costa Rica and there was a large hotel pool in the middle of the complex. They also had a casino, tennis court, and fitness center (!!?). While the amenities are very nice, you should not expect the Costa Rican country charm here- it is simply a Best Western in the city. I didn't have time to explore the neighborhood but the hotel itself was very nice with an attached restaurant that was good. If you're passing through and need a place to stay I'd recommend this!

"Mediocre at best"

This is not a great hotel. Very dated. Rooms are cramped and not well laid out. Climate control is side unit based -- meaning cold for the adjacent bed and hot for the other bed. Service is indifferent and grounds are fairly pedestrian. It is not particularly close to the airport. There are better choices.

-far from city center -not much to walk to as its right off the highway -the closest food other than hotel option is Denny's and subway -the rooms were kind of dingy and depressing -the sheets didn't look like they had been changed and then we subsequently found stains on them; further when they came to replace the sheets they didn't use a fitted sheet - so it kept moving all night -there were tennis courts and a nice common area but that's it

We decided to go to the big city of San Jose for the last week before going home. We picked this place mostly for the huge pool. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate. It was mostly cloudy and windy while we were here. So we made the best out of it and bought the city, vip tour. For the price ,including lunch,it was great. A good 5 hour tour. It was intense. San Jose has one million 800 thousand residents and no public transit. Thanks to Diego andNatalia at he front desk . You made us feel welcome and well taken care of. I heard that they have rooms with kitchen units. Worth chhecking out next time and finally. Big thank you to Raquel the amazing concierge.

I booked this hotel through Travleocity on January 2016, the rate said it had a 40% discount on the $125 regular fee. It sounded like a great deal, but the truth is the hotel has two categories of rooms, the $125 and the other. We got the other type of room because of the rate we got, so to me, this is a scam, you are not getting that discount, you are just getting the cheap room. We did not like the room, the smelled horrible, the air conditioning is old and noisy. You can hear everything throug the thin walls, we had people laughing and speaking all the way to 2:00 am. The rug was old and had patches. We asked a change of room, the lady on the counter was very unpolite, she said there was no rooms available on the good side of the hotel. Next morning a very nice gentleman on the counter helped us, he said they would charge us $80.00 for the change of rooms, and he was able to find us a room. The rooms on the other side of the hotel were nicer, new carpets, new air conditioner, same size. But definitely not worth $125.00. We checked out and the lady said it was $80.00 but my card was charged $112.00 instead of the $80.00 they told us, again we were cheated. The hotel is not worth what it charges, we moved to the San Jose Palacio, and got a rate of $90.00 a much different hotel, great breakfast, great servicie for a much cheaper price.

Our last night in Costa Rica after staying in noisy hostiles for 21 days was supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing before we travel for 12+ hours.. instead we were woken up at 7:15am to an annoying light knock on the door. Room service decided to wake us up not only knocking but proceeded to come into our room which was fortunately stopped by the security latch. Not exactly how we anticipated waking up. If you decide to stay here take note you MUST put the "do not disturb" sign on the door because it apparently it isn't obvious enough through their high tech computer system that we haven't checked out yet. Then, when brought to the managements attention we were told they were checking for laundry and it was OUR fault we didn't state the obvious.. do NOT disturb us at 7:15! This is the 2nd Best Western we have stayed at on this trip. The first, in Jaco, wasn't ridiculous like this one. You would think for a chain of hotels they'd all have the same standards. Definitely not the way we wanted to start our long day of traveling.

I was in this hotel for just one night. The room was small but it had a terrace which it made it confortable for me. The personnel very attentive and friendly. The property lokks very nice and the gardens around the pool look very pretty. A lot of dining options around and in the hotel. Located a short drive to downtown

We had an over night stay here, waiting to catch flight in morning to Dallas, TX. Check in was average time to wait, front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfy. Small casino bottom floor and great sports bar connected with good food. Close by souvenir shopping in hotel as well as across the street. Local food mart nearby for groceries. 15 minute drive from airport, cost of taxi around $20.US .. Disappointed that they did not accept our AAA discount card. GOOD STAY.

This place used to make sense when they had a free and convenient shuttle to the airport. Now that is gone, and the Denny's is the biggest draw for this place, and that isn't enough. Don't stay here unless you have a tour group your are steering thru Costa Rica.

As our cruise thru the canal arrived after our non-stop to DFW, we had (ha) to stay overnight. We were recommended this hotel as it is 10-15 minutes from the Intl airport. Very nice ambience, very clean, Nice outdoor bar (Sangria's) facing the boulevard. Beautiful courtyard with pool. Made 7am arrangements for the hotel shuttle to the airport ($8 each), and left the next morning ON-TIME, even though the other riders were late. Driver said 7a IS 7a. Perfect.

We had our flight delayed out of San Jose to the next day. Went here with UA voucher. Very friendly staff and helpful. Clean rooms. They actually have a nice central pool area. The voucher price said 79. For this it was a very good deal. Also had a tasty breakfast in the attached restaurant (not the Dennnys). Best bacon I've had in a long time.

We stayed here for 3 nights before joining an Ecoterra tour of Costa Rica. One night, or maybe two, would have been plenty. I found it clean and safe, but noisy. There were lots of teens on sports teams staying there and they ran up and down the hall ways and seemed unchaperoned most of the time. I couldn't get hot water in the shower and the towels were really thin. The courtyard area is nice and the pool is attractive. I hoped to go in the hot tub area, but there were about 16 people (including lots of young kids) who just stayed in there indefinitely. I don't think it was meant to accommodate more than 10 or 12 people at the most. There is a bar called "Sangrias" there, which was perfectly nice, and a Denny's on the property, but otherwise, you don't really have access to anything unless you have a car or take a taxi. It's between the airport and downtown San Jose, but there isn't anything in walking distance that you really want to go to (unless it's a Subway restaurant).

The usual that you will expect from a big chain hotel. We got our keys and went to the room and were surprised that is was not cleaned, I mean the room was in the way the previous people left it, a chaos. We went to the front desk and they were like, "ok" and not even apologize. The room had two queen beds and small balcony overlooking the pool. The beds were comfortable and I liked that they had Britt Coffee in the room for you to make in the morning. Another, good thing is that they give you a ticket for a free drink at the Tapas restaurant that's attached to the hotel. Also for the included breakfast they give you the option to go to Dennis (also attached to the hotel) or the Tapas place. We went to the tapas place which had traditional costa rican breakfast and good coffee. They were really busy so we waited a bit, then we placed the order and at least they brought the coffee before we got the breakfast which was oK. There is ample parking and free wifi worked perfect from the room.

Although we only stayed there one night, the lodgings were perfect after a very long day of flying into Costa Rica. It is close to the airport, has several restaurants on site, and a mini-supermarket next door (perfect for water bottles and snacks). I felt safe their and everyone in the family enjoyed the exceptionally nice pool and hot tub.

My wife and I were flying out of Costa Rica in the morning. We like Best Western properties in the US so we booked at the Irazu. Diego helped at the front desk and was quite a pleasure after driving in Costa Rica's infamous traffic. Hotel has beautiful grounds and virtually no traffic noise. We were given food and drink coupons to use at the hotel restaurant or Denny's next door. We choose Denny's for convenience and the coupons came in handy. I would only comment that shuttle service from the airport is free but costs $8 per person to get back to the airport. Appears to be some sort of contractual agreement with the local taxi services.

Stayed for 9 days in October. Very comfortable rooms and a very well maintained hotel. It has a Dennys on site...24 hour. Found it a bit pricey, but food and drink in the hotel bar was very good and reasonable. Our rooms were on the road side with a view of the mountains...I would say the pool side was better. Pool is very nice, but not heated. There is a Jacuzzi and a tennis court. The hotel is located on the main highway in from the airport with a small shopping mall and supermarket close by.. but not a lot else....it is about a 15 dollar ride into the centre of San Jose...plenty of taxis outside the door. The local currency is Colones but most places also take dollars. The hotel has a casino in the basement...the slots only take local currency..but the casino or the hotel will change bills no problem. The weather was warm and very nice but it rained most afternoors..so bring a jacket or brolly. A beautiful country which we had not much time to see..we did a day trip to La Paz Waterfall and Gardens which were stunning..a great day out and we intend to visit Costa Rica again.

We stayed here after landing and before taking off to go home. Ever employee we came across was so friendly and helpful! You always feel safe and can even forget you're in middle of big city with ease! Beautiful grounds and pool area. Rooms are your nice and basic best western rooms, except maybe a little nicer! Wifi was very good, restaraunt was good and having Dennys next door was very convenient for our early flight out. Front desk attendant Sira was superb and extremely helpful & professional. My mother-n-law stayed here week longer before we arrived due to dental work she had done, and every staff member played a part in making her feel comforted and safe and we are forever grateful!!!! Thank you and couldnt recommend this place more!

"Do not stay...Bedbugs and mold"

Anyone who thinks they want to stay here, think again. Don't be deceived by the beautiful reception and pool area. The hotel rooms are infested with bedbugs and the carpet throughout most definitely has mold. I have stayed in this hotel several times over the last 10 years and this time I will never go back. The first room we were checked into had a half eaten sandwich on the table that had been there for a long time as the room smelled disgusting and the bathroom was not cleaned. The second room did not have the moldy sandwich smell to cover up anything. All we could smell was mold from the ancient carpet that has been there since the first time I checked in 10 years ago and even then, it was not new. As we sat on the bed for the next hour contemplating finding another hotel even though we had already prepaid for the 2 nights and were told we will not be reimbursed, we got eaten alive by what we found out to be bedbugs. So when we went to go checkout and let the staff know, they wouldn't even look at us and went in the back. We came back the next day to tell someone else about the bugs and everything else and when we finally did, they did not even look surprised or wanted to do anything about it. Disgusting all around. DO NOT STAY HERE

Stopped here the night before taking my mother to the airport. It was clean with friendly staff and all the consciences you could want. Only that it's in San Jose so the restaurants in the hotel are expensive, but definitely good for a nights stay or a business trip

The hotel was okay, nothing extra special has a nice pool area and given free breakfast. Free breakfast is at either Sangrias or Denny's, limited menu at both. The service at Sangria's was terrible, it was like we were an inconvenience. The rooms were clean. Not much close by walking distance, lots of restaurants and downtown area a cab ride away.

"Long time client, no more - very disappointed"

I have been staying at the Irazu for 10 years and sadly this last stay will be my last. We used to love to stay here due to the ease of walking out of the airport doors and onto a FREE best western shuttle. Now the hotel has specific shuttle hour pick up/drop off at the airport (4-7am then 5:00-10:30pm) and now you pay for your outbound shuttle. We arrived at 4:00pm and were waiting for the shuttle only to be told that one will not be by until 5:40pm. Instead of waiting we took a $25 taxi to the hotel. We also had to pay for a taxi back to the airport since our flight was at 11am. Another new and disappointing change to the Irazu is the Happy Hour. They used to have a great happy hour that lasted for an hour and it was all you could drink for free. It was great! All you could drink beers/house cocktails for an hour..a great way to start a trip and meet fellow travelers. Now, you get 1 drink coupon. Sad. The new staff at the bar (Sangria) lacked smiles and attentiveness..we miss the old crew there which were excellent at their jobs. Edgar, for one, always met us with a smile and was very attentive. The comfort and family feel we used to have at the Best Western Irazu has sadly disappeared, it has become a bit sterile and cheapened. The front desk staff were kind enough and for that I was grateful. As far as cleanliness, the bathroom was in sad shape, no soap, and dirt marks on the wall and door of the bathroom. Two of the electrical outlets were not working in our room. Sadly, I will not be able to recommend this hotel anymore. We used to love this place. But onward to other hotels.

On a flight to Peru we were rerouted to Costa Rica and had to stay overnight in this Best Western. Best Western staff was very accommodating. They provided a whole plane full of passengers with transportation, a room, dinner, and breakfast. Of course the cost was covered by the airline but Best Western staff treated us respectfully. They were terrific hosts. I admire their hospitality because they were obviously not prepared to deal with a plane full of people on such short notice but they did their best, and I am grateful. I highly recommend this hotel if you need to stay near the airport while in Costa Rica.

I recently visited this hotel and had a very pleasant experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful in answering any questions you may have. We had an early flight and they allowed us to check in early.The hotel is situated close to the airport along a busy highway but once you enter the hotel it's very calm and relaxing.The hotel grounds are very nice with a hot tub and a nice size pool and lounge chairs for relaxing. There is a Casino,several restaurants and shops on premises. The hotel rooms themselves are fairly nice. Beds are a little hard...so wouldnt recommend staying longer than a few days. We had a room with balcony facing the pool in the center. I would recommend bringing your own toiletries (most people do anyways) the ones provided are quite basic. Overall this is a great hotel for the price. I would definitely stay here again for the value and the friendliness of the staff!

I stayed at the Best Western as part of the groupon for EcoTerra and it was a great stop to start the trip. The front desk was really nice and the room was average. The pool looked great!-too bad I couldn't get it because it was cold! buttttttt overall with the package I think it was a good start- make sure to check the mini mall next door and go to "Tony's" lunch was great and only $5!

Besides from being about 15 minutes away from the airport, we are only 10 minutes away from downtown and right next door to a small mall which has some restaurants, a grocery store and a pharmacy for our guests' convenience. I love the hotel and the people are so nice I can't wait to comeback in 4 month, I had a lot of fun at the pool and gym, the free tours and others, in general the Costa Rican people are very kind and helpful to all visitors, specialy the ones can't speak spanish. The spa ladies were great, We also had a lot of fun at the casino. over all I do recomend this hotel to anybody that wants to go to Costa Rica for the first time.
