    « Fantastic views »

Had a two week stay, in a superior room, fantastic views, good buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner helpful staff. Courtesy bus to salobrena daily saved a walk as hotel located on side of mountain. Would recommend.

« Fantastic views from hotel rooms, a great breakfast all at a very reasonable price »

The hotel is situated on the main access road into Salobrena high above and about three kilometres from the village which meant using taxis if we wished to go out to eat in the evening. Our room was in the older part of the building and was more than adequate with comfortable beds, excellent bathroom and a balcony looking out across the swimming pool towards the sea. The inclusive breakfast was outstanding. Service at the bar was a little slow at times. Staff were all friendly and were very helpful. We stopped for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

« great hotel great views great hospitality »

this hotel was great. the staff were exceptional and so were the views. hotel was clean, food was good. beautiful drive to hotel. this hotel is great for couples and families. it has everything you need. a tv room, library room, even a game room for the kids. pool and hot tub great.

    « Great holiday »

Reception staff very helpful, room adequate for me as I spend very little time in it. The bed was very comfortable & clean as was the bathroom but furniture was a little old & tired. I had a balcony plenty big enough for 2 with table & chairs and while I was there a new clothes dryer was put up as the original one although it still sort of worked was broken. The balcony view was lovely & got the afternoon & evening sun. Room 221 The food on my first week was amazing (as its only 3* my expectations weren't high) with plenty of selection for all tastes, every meal had a good choice of fresh fruit, meat, fish, veg, salad & deserts I've never seen at an all inclusive Spanish hotel. On my second week the food choice was not so good at all meals specially breakfast, it seemed to cater more for European style but still we didn't go hungry. If you're looking for entertainment & nightlife this hotel is not for you, it suited me as I'm happy to sit outside with a drink in the warm evening air & have light conversation with interesting people. A taxi into town in the evening €8 took us to the beach bars where it was more lively & drinks very cheap. Free curtesy bus every day into town if you need to go out. The pool was great, large enough to get a good swim, a little cool on entering but was lovely once you took the plunge. Plenty of sun beds available although like the room furniture some were well used & a little broken. Overall I enjoyed staying here & would recommend it if you're just looking for a bit of R&R and a quiet time.

    « Very average »

Stayed room only for a week, room was purely functional and adequate for our purposes. Bathroom was fine, clean and fairly modern but other aspects of the room could certainly do with a spruce up. The balcony view was obscured by overgrown trees, would otherwise have had quite an attractive sea view. All meals on offer were buffet style and exclusively geared towards the all inclusive residents on a 'chips with everything' basis. No alternative menus or options for other guests required to pay separately for meals. The kitchen seemed to be an almost 24 hour operation with the noise of plates/cutlery being cleaned/stored being heard from our room from early morning until late at night. Staff were generally friendly, many spoke very limited English though which is surprising given the level of Brits the place seems to attract. A lovely area/region overall but a car is a must as there are practically no amenities in close proximity to the hotel. Would visit the area again but very doubtful I'd return to this hotel.

« bit dated but cheap enough, clean and reasonable food »

this place could do with a good going over by a maintenance team, but was perfectly adequate. the food was unimpressive but typical hotel andalucian fayre and as it was included in the price we paid it was perfectly ok. great views.Nice pool area , but was quickly overrun and taken over almost completely by a very loud kids club. Great and well priced massage by Irina- thanks, and the desk staff very helpful when i left something behind.

    « Amazing view »

This was a very affordable hotel along the coast between Malaga and directly south about 2 hrs from Granada. Most of the coast in this area is overbuilt and not that attractive to me. This was on the highway, on a cliff away from all of that and very conveniently located. It is a very busy place. It looked like families must come and stay awhile. The pool is big and very nice. Lots of activites on the schedule but everything was quiet after 9 or 10pm. Sunset was beautiful from the deck. Also a nice view of the castle. We also had a nice view from our balcony. The breakfast buffet was very affordable and had so much selection you couldn't try everything.

« Great view but not much else »

The best thing about this hotel is the magnificent view of the sea. Unfortunately, apart from that it doesn't have much going for it. The hotel is rather isolated as it is a few miles from the town. The hotel does not have any sort of a shop inside and as far as I know there is no shop or restaurant within several miles. The pool area was full of children and very noisy. The noise was made worse by the hotel playing very loud music which can be heard throughout the premises. I had a Club Room with sea view, which was just about acceptable but nothing special. The TV and WiFi were good. The shower had a tendency to flood all over the bathroom floor. The restaurant was awful. They serve the buffet on one large table, which results in one big rush when everyone arrives - the restaurant only opens at 8:30 pm. The restaurant was noisy and full of children. The food was uninspiring - lots of meat dishes - few fish dishes. I won't be going back to this hotel, that's for sure.

« Beautiful view but you need a car »

Room is simple but clean. View is really great on every side. Pool is small but deep in the middle- as long it's not crowded, it's nice. Fast free wifi Front desk speaks good English- that's very rare in Spain. The location is a little remote from Salobrena. You def need a car to reach the hotel.

« Could be so much better »

Situation Brilliant Cleanliness OK Needs money spent on facilities then it could be 5 Star , Food Basic, Staff some brilliant , some not so, Room Good, Free trips to Salobrena, Almunaca and other places very good

« Excellent position beside the sea »

I did not read the reviews on this site before booking and it was just as well as our experience was very different from many of the previous negative comments. We were in a 3rd floor room which did not have a balcony but did have a view over the pool and Salobrena castle. The hotel has great views along the coast in both directions. Our room had been refurbished recently and was in excellent condition. A comfortable, firm bed, TV (a lot of channels but few in English), fridge, safe (payment needed) and good free wifi. There was no bath but the bathroom had been fitted out as a wet room ? much larger and more impressive than a simple shower. There was a modern basin and toilet and good lighting. However there was only a smoked glass wall between the bedroom and the shower room which was slightly off-putting. Even married couples do not necessarily wish to see their partner sitting on the loo! We have experienced a similar set up on a cruise ship but there was a curtain to pull across - it would have been a good idea here. We only stayed one night and the evening meal and breakfast was included in the price. Both were buffet self-service and the food was excellent with a good choice of dishes. There were many nationalities staying and the food reflected that. We felt it offered good value. Staff were helpful and friendly. We would be happy to return if staying in the area again.

    « A Beautiful Spot »

The hotel is perfectly positioned on this lovely coastline with the most amazing panoramic views. The pool area is well laid out and the tables for sitting with a drink positioned under canopies of green cooling vegetation. The main areas: reception and restaurant give the appearance of modern and upbeat however, the rooms particularly have a very 'tired' and in need of a bit of a facelift appearance.

« Best for short stay »

A lot of through traffic at this Hotel. Amazing views from the main Terrace. Hotel hosts a lot of weddings, communions (6 at the time of our stay) and has a large conference centre. Most visitors appear to stay a few nights and return home or move on to another destination, especially if touring the area. Set up high so can be very windy on the terraces. We had upgraded our room but it still took 3 days to get the "plunger plug" in the sink fixed; must say our beds were very comfortable indeed. Also, unbeknown to us when booking, full scale refurbishment on the floors and rooms below ours went on for 10 hours during most days which included drilling and a machine splitting laminate to lay new flooring as well as painting and other decoration works. During our first few days an influx of nearly 200 Spanish people from various areas arrived and the restaurant did their very best to cope with this as well as their guests staying on a longer term. Other visitors were from Denmark, Holland, France as well as the British. Quite a noisy hotel and no comfortable relaxing areas in which to read or play cards. One important aspect I must mention is the staff and they were absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they did their very very best to look after the guests, and still kept smiling !! If visiting, please to try and speak a few Spanish words even just to say hello (Hola) or thank you (Muchas gracias).... it will be most appreciated.

    « Value hotel »

Off the beaten track. Definitely need transport to get around. Hotel comfortable Fantastic views of the bay Facilities a little tired Great value but no more than a couple of nights required for local sights.

    « Beautiful view! »

Super nice hotel with beautiful sea view!! Room 316 had the best! Buffet dinner has a nice quality. It closes at 10. There is flamengo animation. Beds are a bit hard but okay. Free wifi in hotel is the best! Tv in room and swimming-pool with sea view. Very friendly staff.

    « Don't expect too much »

Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. The hotel is situated in a peaceful location, with amazing views over the sea and surrounding countryside. It is quite remote but there are courtesy buses each day from the hotel to various nearby towns. There are also some good walks around the hotel but it is not possible to walk down to the beach below the hotel. The bus stop on the main road is no longer in use, so if you want to travel on local buses you have to go into Salobrena on the courtesy bus and start and finish your journey there. The dining room and pool area have wonderful views over the sea. My room was quite badly furnished and lacked a comfortable chair or seating area. It had two three-quarter beds, which were comfortable. I had two broken tiles in the bathroom and some of the electrical sockets did not work. The balcony railing appeared to be dangerous as the wood was rotten, so I did not lean against it. Fruit and water and a hospitality tray with kettle, as stated in the Saga brochure, were not in the room when I arrived and I had to request them. The room was cleaned daily. Heating is on in the bedrooms only at certain times. The public areas are draughty in the colder months and are quite dark. The food is repetitive and average. There are not enough staff to cover both the dining room and the bar at the same time. The bar consists of several tables set against the wall in the corridor leading down to the dining room. Staff are, however, helpful and friendly. The hotel needs to be refurbished, sorted out and definitely better managed. There appears to be a lack of overall management of the hotel and a definite lack of communication between departments and the holiday companies that use it.

    « Can be better ! »

The only thing who was really nice is the view on seaside ! Room is ok and enough space but need to be cleaner, the bathroom is shower and not enough space under shower! The breakfast was really good and the dinner is good! Is 3*** we can't ask more !

    « January 2016 »

We stayed for a month. The location is stunning but the hotel itself is showing its age. We found the food satisfactory if somewhat repetitive. The staff were pleasant but spread rather thin. Price is however a factor. If you want five star levels of service and accommodation you have to be prepared to pay accordingly I

    « Don't go out on the balcony if you've had a liddle drinky-poo .... »

The service was fair to middling with the Saga representatives making up for the hotel staff's lack of understanding of the different levels of full board, half board etc. The food was adequate but the hotel itself - for a Best Western - was in urgent need of refurbishment, indeed it may well have been closed down if it were in the UK if the appearance of the balcony railings is anything to go by. One nudge and the rust that held it together would give and you'd need a parachute or a fireman's blanket sharpish.

« All facilities you could want, lovely pool »

Meeting there for coffee and some talks regularly. The bar has lots of space, there is a large area by reception with comfortable seating where you can have private conversations and business discussions, and a very large meeting room downstairs.

    « Spectacular views......bring a kettle, bring a fridge, bring the 21st century »

Stayed Jan 23-Jan 25 Best Western Rewards Diamond The good: The view is spectacular. It sits right on the headland south of Salobrena town and has views going far north and all the way down to Almunecar. The sunrise and the sunset can both be seen with uninterrupted views. The room had a balcony so was able to sit out there in the evening and watch the sun go down. TV had a great choice of channels in all the languages. The pool is great but unfortunately was too cold to swim in at this time of year and the wi-fi, believe it or not, was particularly fast. The not so good: The place is old, the rooms are shabby, the breakfast is awful, the staff aren't very nice. Was there with about 20-30 English retirees all over 75yo. It reminded me of one of those retirement homes. The bed was as hard as a rock and had really old sheets, so thin they have been used so many years. Time to get some new sheets guys! And a blanket that was an old brown one with flowers all over it, you know the type, like Nanna used to have. The bathroom was a 1920's style with very low pressure water. Really low. Did I say low? And minimal toiletries. They are clearly scrimping on everything at this hotel. No kettle in the room. No bloody kettle! C'mon guys, surely the guests can have a kettle LOL. I'll tell you what, you provide the kettle and I will provide my own coffee, tea and milk. And a fridge would be helpful too. Because if you want dinner, you will wait until 7.30pm before the lazy things open up and there is a stern warning on the door, "First in, first served - No reservations" And in the morning, how does an 8am start sound? That's it, breakfast opens at 8am. So god forbid you get hungry outside the times the lazy things are prepared to work. The breakfast was a mess. Most of the food looked like slop and they had the wait-staff taking turns at cooking the eggs. Terrible. Summary: What a shame this place has been allowed to run down the way it has by poor management. They need to have a good think about themselves. The location is incredible and I am sure in its heyday it was a gem. ( I actually overheard one woman mentioned she stayed there 45 years ago ) and I would suggest there hasn't been any renovation since then. Maybe the pool. And they have added wi-fi. Wow. Would I stay again: Weirdly, yes I would, but only for the location. It's a stunner. But I'll bring my own kettle, my own bed linen and my own fridge. Would I recommend: More than likely not.

« Depends what you're after, suited us brilliantly ! Great spot on the coast, nice staff, great views, v relaxing place... »

We had spent over a week driving around Spain - Salamanca, Avila, Cordoba, Granada etc and were after somewhere to relax with a sea view after a hectic road trip. If you have a car it's excellent - just off the coast road so easy to access. Perched on a promenent headland the Hotels is wonderfully situated - views to bays to the East and West. The actual infrastructure is a bit 70s - but not awfully so. Room was clean and cosy - we were VERY lucky - had a room right at the end of a corridor on the top floor with a balcony which permitted a view both East and West - absolutley perfect spot to sit on our balcony and watch the sea and the sunset. Admittedly if you don't have a car I would imagine that getting anywhere may be difficult - but they put on a free shuttle to town apparently. The clientelle was predominently British and mainly 60 plus in age so it had an odd ambience, but quite a homley one. It's not a party place for teenagers by any means. There are loads of areas to sit and chill, free tea and coffee 24 hrs a day.... nice. Not sure why so many Spanish Hotels charge for car parking - this one didnt and this is one of the reasons we stayed here. Lots of free car parking spaces. After a week of standard Spanish continental breakfasts a buffet offering cooked food was glorious. We got this place fairly cheap as it was January and it was exactly what we wanted for an overnight stopover and chill - great sea views, relaxing, easy access, free car parking, breakfast, friendly staff and excellent free wifi - loved it. We have marked as we find and it is a 5 (Don't give that many 5s and we have reviewed a lot of hotels !)

    « Awful experience »

The food at this hotel was well below par, most of the time you couldn't decided what the food was,it was badly presented, the puddings were awful they were mostly sponge square, what you would expect to serve children, afternoon tea was a joke it was tea out the machine, luke warm, and small rolls with chocolate running through them in cellophane ,if I hadn't of liked salads I wouldn't of eaten anything and if that was bland,On top of that I was covered in bed bites all over my face ,hands ,and body, and two weeks on I am still suffering with the itching,it's a definite no no for me!!!!

« Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. »

This hotel was the one chosen by the tour company for a particular themed holiday so it came with the deal rather than was our choice. The hotel is situated a good walk from Salobrena so is, in effect, cut off from local amenities. A courtesy bus runs in the morning and back after lunch. A couple of hours and you have explored Salobrena. The staff were all polite and helpful but seemed to be run off their feet. This theme carried on to the cleanliness of the room and hotel where I am sure that the room maids have insufficient time allowed for each room. This also showed in the poor attention to detail; there was a kettle in the room but no tea or coffee. When the tea and coffee was put in the room there were no cups. The air conditioning in the room did not work. This was because it is turned off in the winter. The food in the restaurant was canteen/buffet style. It was ok. Not up to a particularly high standard nor particularly hot. Typical for a package holiday when lots of people chose to eat at the same time. We had a wedding on over the weekend and it was vital that you did not clash with the times that they decided to eat! The pool area was regularly cleaned and tidy. Don't expect to rely on the WiFi, it's so slow that a speed test would not run and pages would time out. Dial up would be an improvement. This was irrespective of the phone or iPad being used. Use this hotel if you don't mind being stuck in one place with only one place to eat and drink. If you enjoy trying the local food for your evening meal then this is not the hotel for you, find somewhere else.

    « A hotel for a relaxing break »

The hotel is comfortable although a little tired in some areas, but the stunning views from its cliff top location more than makes up for this, because of its position you feel a bit isolated as there is nowhere to walk although there is a daily free courtesy bus that takes you to Salobrena and other resorts nearby. Our room was fine with a large balcony with breathtaking views across the bay where the mountains meet the sea. There is a fair sized pool with no shortage of sun beds. The food was average with a variety to suit all tastes. There is a definite shortage of staff which sometimes means waiting awhile at the bar and sometimes in the restaurant for food to be replenished. The hotel is situated on The Costa Tropical with it's stunning scenery. I recommend a car to get out and about in the Sierra Nevada. If you are looking for lively nightlife then this hotel is not for you.

    « A Good Mid-week Break »

We decided to take my parents away for a mid-week break that did'nt involve too much of a journey. We settled on The Best Western. We found the staff to be friendly and professional .The buffet has a reasonable selection with something for most tastes, although,as in most hotels the food could do with being a bit warmer ,but there is a microwave so you can give the food a quick flash .As with other reviews our room was a bit tired, and would benefit from an upgrade, although this seems to have already started as the bathroom looked pretty new. .We had rooms with a seaview, which went a long way to make up for any shortcomings. A car is necessary ,although I believe there is a shuttle bus into Salobreña .There is ample free on site parking,so all in all a good stay. My one big moan is,as usual, the minimal number of English TV channels available ,especially considering the majority of guests were British.

    « Time travel to 70s »

We had a weekend here and did not like it. The room smelled and switching airco on distributed sewage smell without cooling. Breakfast was unhealthy, low quality and the coffee was awful. We went elswhere the next day to have a decent coffee and breakfast. The hotel is a massive building that looks like a leftover from the 70s. Best part was a lovely staffmember at the bar on our arrival day late at night who made a chees/ham toastie for our little daughter although the kitchen was already closed. The pool was nice with salty water but poorly cleaned with lots of dirt sediment (sand, stones, gras). I would not come back. I would not recommend.

« Saga holiday including trip to Granada »

Although we knew the hotel was situated above the town, it was not made clear just how inaccessible it was. The hotel staff were very helpful and cheerful and the hotel clean but the exterior was a little sad, in need of a facelift. The food was very plentiful with lots of healthy salad a but the hot dishes were a bit samey every day. We were also a little disappointed that although promised a balcony and sea view our view was completely blocked out by ab enormous rubber tree in front of the balcony.

« Nice location and great views of Mediterranean... »

We were in Best Western Salobrena in the last week of April 2015. The rooms are clean and well kept. The view from the sea view rooms in the south side of the hotel are excellent. There's always enough parking places available. The restaurant staff don't speak good English; so learning some basic Spanish phrases would be helpful.

« Last minute booking by phone »

I asked when I rang whether there were any parties or local fiestas as I wanted a restful break in a decent hotel with good food. I was assured that it would fit my needs for a pleasant peaceful break. Well, after driving around Salobreña for about an hour following the only road sign for the hotel I ended up in tiny lanes by the castle!! I wasn´t told by the staff that it was 3.5km out of town on a main road which has no lighting.I asked a local council employee and he told me how to find the place. On arrival the man on reception was on his mobile and totally blanked me out.I was given my room in the East Wing which was basic and very 1980s with a chipped and mildewed bathroom and loads of flies.I asked for a room change and was told they were full. The corridors have sensor controlled lighting which is very poor when it comes on and dangerous as you cannot see a thing in a corridor without windows at night. The Restaurant needs a refurb.Flies on food and birds flying around, landing on the food as the doors and windows kept being opened even when we asked for them to be closed as the fly population was really annoying when trying to eat. The food is cold and mediocre but the waiters are absolutely fantastic especially the very tall young man and the one who looks a bit like Manuel from Fawlty Towers, very attentive and friendly but running all the time to cope with the workload. One night I turned back my bed and found silverfish in it, also human hair, the rooms may be swept in the centre of the floor but seem never to have the furniture or under the beds cleaned, piles of nail clippings and hair under my bed.I spoke to reception and was told that the cleaners are very busy and only have a short time to brush a room also that it is normal for flies and insects to be a room in Spain-you get used to it!I live in Spain, in a tourist resort and we would never tolerate or get away with this attitude. On the Saturday the hotel had a wedding and 2 first communion parties booked.Approx 100 locals with bouncy castles, pool games, massive noise and uncontrolled kids running wild until around 7,30am.It was HORRENDOUS.When I went to reception the receptionist said he had asked the kids to stop running around the corridors playing knock and run but there was nothing else he could do as their families had paid a lot of money to enjoy themselves!I would not go there again and would not recommend it - a shame really as it just needs a lot of love and attention from Managers/Owners who give a damn.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO DOWN "THE PLEASANT TRACK TO THE BEACH" , it is a very unsafe cliff edge track which goes through private property and an abandoned building which has rats running around it. Stay in Salobreña itself, it is beautiful and very clean with a fantastic promenade and friendly people who actually want you to enjoy your holiday
