    « Cancellation policy Inacurate »

Our stays at the BWP have always been exceptional. However due to some unforeseen changes in our plans for this most recent stay we needed to cancel one night, we would not of arrived until after 10 pm and I would of much rather arrived in our visiting city early morning instead of paying about 200 dollars to arrive late and only sleep in our hotel as the pool would already of been closed and no other amenities available to us that late. However this was not an option for us apparently. I called to change our reservation well within the cancellation policy and after talking with about 6 different staff it was not possible to cancel only one date. I was told if I cancelled one date I would not have a room available for the second date of our stay. How is this even possible? Not sure. So we sucked it up. Drove late into the night and payed for an unnecessary stay. In my eyes, it was not money well spent.

« Was expecting better, not really worth the money »

The location and breakfast were the the onlmonrehings that made this hotel worth it. It was only a 20 minute walk down to the river and we walked by the Cathedral on the way down and the Capitol building on the way up. We stayed for one night on a fourteen day road trip. Out of every hotel we stayed at, this was one of the more expensive and lands at the bottom of our list in terms of quality. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the entire floor and room smelled like weed. I'm sure it wasn't really marijuana but it smelled the same and was very unpleasant. The bathrooms are tiny and the shower curtain is awful, the floor gets wet quickly. The ceiling tiles above the shower also can be lifted up by reaching up with your hand. Not a big deal at all really, but a little weird and uncomfortable at a hotel, makes you paranoid someone is watching. The walls are VERY thin, we could hear our neighbors TV during the day perfectly. Then at night it was even worse. Loud noise from somewhere else in the hotel came into our room until 3am, preventing us from getting any sleep until then and we had to leave at 6. In not sure what the noise was from, but it was awful and there was no way to block it out. We covered our ears with pillows and put in ear buds but we could still hear the music and people talking clear as day. The restaurant was good but I likely would not have gone had it not been attached to the hotel. Staff was nice but just as good as any other hotel, nothing exceptional. Wouldn't return, especially not if sleep was a priority that night.

Loved the friendly staff, restaurant services were awesome! Even the cleaning staff was super friendly and accommodating. The lobby was constantly very clean and the check out was quick and easy. Would definitely stay here again!

« Great Hotel for Legislative Business »

Conveniently located next to the State Capital in St. Paul, this is the place to stay if you're in town for legislative business. The lobby is large and the lobby bar & restaurant has good food and good prices. The complimentary breakfast sets the standard as far as Best Westerns go. The hotel appears to have been renovated recently as everything still looks new and fresh in the lobby and the guest rooms. My room was right next to the ice machine and elevator and for whatever reason it seams like Best Western Plus hotels I've been in recently all have paper thin walls. I could easily hear every time the water ran in the ice maker and every coughing fit from the person next door. Aside from that, the rooms and bathrooms are well lit and the rooms come standard with a fridge and microwave which is always nice. Overall, a very good hotel. Even if you're a light sleeper, the bathroom fan does a good job drowning out the noise.

    « Great place! »

We stayed through the busy state high school boys hockey tournament and the hotel ran flawlessly. Friendly staff! Delicious continental breakfast! Great shuttle service! Daily newspapers! Wonderful hotel experience!

    « Excellent »

The hotel desk staff, breakfast area staff, and housekeeping staff all provided the best possible service to ensure that we had a very enjoyable stay. We look forward to staying at this Best Western again.

    « Great Stay »

I stayed here for a work/personal trip and was pleasantly surprised. While my check process was brief due to another guest and staff needing assistance, it was uneventful. My room was clean, bed and pillows comfy. The bathroom is small but checks all the boxes. I utilized their shuttle service to the Excel Center on Monday evening and then again on Tuesday morning. My only comment that is less than 5 stars is that I had a room facing the freeway which had more noise than I'm used to sleeping with. I had previously stayed here....25 years ago. They've made some cosmetic changes and it shows. From the shuttle service to the bartender, they were all amazing. I will gladly stay here again.

    « Best western-peddlers pub »

Best Western Capital Ridge- Peddlers Pub Review: Stayed at the Best Western Capital Ridge, St. Paul, MN 4 nights for work. 2/26-3/2/18. Ate at Peddlers Pub twice, and well, never again. I could not believe this service. Two waitresses on, Ashley and Chelsey and the bartender, Nathan. Walk in, seat myself, wait for a good 5 min before anyone even notices someone is seated. Nathan, the bartender asks for my drink order (both nights) and says Chelsey will be with me shortly. Ok great. Already a bad taste in my mouth waiting before getting a drink or menu. Another 3 min and chelsey asks if if like a menu. Well, yes. Ok. While I can over hear these two waitresses talk about how busy they are while folding napkins. 10 min. Ok, I finally order. Chicken sandwich and fries, simple, right?! Another 10 min...food comes out. Great. Well, I wait...and wait...not a single person checks back in on me...or offers a refill. All while I can still hear these two bad mouthing customers. Multiple people have came up to Ashley to be checked out. Counted 3. Half an hour goes by before saying anything. Two bites in my sandwich and theres no mayo. I finally just ask for my bill and sandwich to go and a side of mayo, because this was forgotten and never got the chance to ask for a side, since i was never checked on. She comes back to tell me they are out of mayo...out of mayo?! Just wow. This experience was beyond unacceptable. I was in ahh...it was laughable how bad it was. Our agency books numerous rooms at this hotel. Eats numerous meals here. Not to the standards of how great Best Western can be. Someone please contact me regarding this issue. Not to mention the shuttle service, wait times and only have one person on to shuttle people...

« Best stay of our vacation »

Stayed two nights at this hotel with my wife and two young sons (1 & 3). We were on a six night, four different hotel trip in the area and this was by far our favorite stay. Front desk staff were personable, shuttle drivers were awesome to talk with, the restaurant was great tasting, breakfast staff attentive to our needs, pool great for our kids, and the room was the perfect set-up for our family of four. We now hold this Best Western as what we will compare our future stays to in what we want/look for in a hotel. Thank you for the great experience! Shuttle driver... I could have talked to John (baseball coach) for hours. Thanks for getting us to the museum and talking with us like we were old friends on the way and back at the hotel. Breakfast... I think I did talk with Josh for hours and on morning two he said good morning to my son using his name. My son couldn't believe he knew it... neither could I.

« Excellent Service! Excellent Stay! »

Loved this hotel, starting with the check-in. The front desk was professional and welcoming, The room looked newly renovated, clean, and was so comfortable, including the bed. Breakfast was perfect !!! cheesy eggs, French toast or pancakes, real almonds for a topping, bagels, fruits, and many extras. The weather was too cold for me to venture out so I was very happy that the hotel had a bar. The hotel have plenty of parking spaces. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel.

    « Pool »

Very disappointed that the pool was not open. A big reason why we wanted to stay at this hotel was because we wanted to use the pool, but were unable to. The restaurant service was a bit disappointing, hence no tip was left. The presentation of the breakfast was nice. They kept it clean and fill up. Thank you for that!

    4
« Nice view, beautiful motel »

2 things negative, pool was down for repairs :( I wanted to enjoy some heat during 30 below wind chill. The phone in the room did not work and they never came to replace it. I really loved the motel, it was very nice place to stay. My room over looked the St Paul Cathedral. For NYE I looked outside and was glad I was in a nice cozy warm bed. Nice holiday.

    « Shuttle service terrible »

We were guaranteed return shuttle service after the concert but the driver went off duty at 9 pm and we were told to call a cab for return trip. There were at least 6 or 8 couples all trying to get cab service back in 10 below temps running around outside for about 45 minutes. Hotel clerk said nothing he could do about it!!! There must have been an owner or employee that could have started the van up and come and gotten us instead of leaving us to freeze

    2
    « Never Again! »

We stay at Best Westerns across the U.S. for work travel and always have great experiences - except for this one. Room was NOT clean when we checked in (floor was filthy, hair in sink and tub, food from last person in fridge, etc.). Didn't even get room service during our stay. Called to front desk to ask about at least getting clean towels and clerk was extremely rude and he shared how much he hated his job. Love my Best Westerns - but won't stay here ever again.

    « Great check-in staff. »

Everything was very nice until the last morning. Coffee pot in breakfast area was empty and so was the scrambled eggs. I was short for time, but need my breakfast to start my day (especially my coffee). That was my only disappointment. The hotel is wonderfully located for downtown business/recreation except it was a little confusing getting into the parking area.

    5
« Wonderful Place to Stay!! »

Everything was wonderful! The staff is super pleasant and courteous. The beds are comfortable, amazing breakfast buffet, and good restaurant to eat at. They also offer a free shuttle within 3 miles of the hotel! Free parking and they let you park after you leave the hotel.

    5
    « Excellent! »

Wonderful experience! Will stay again! The room was clean and comfortable. It was quiet. We were busy most of the time so we didn't get to experience everything. The breakfast the next morning was excellent! There were many choices for everyone!

    « Clean, Comfortable Hotel »

The Good: Clean, modern rooms. Very comfortable bed. Nice breakfast (better than most hotels' "hot breakfasts"). Super friendly staff. Free shuttle to riverfront area (until 10 PM). Very good hotel restaurant (surprisingly good). The Bad: The immediate area around the hotel is remote. If you're walking, you won't find a grocery store or decent restaurant nearby. One of the exercise bikes was also not working. Overall Summary: Great choice for a hotel! I especially appreciated the friendliness of the staff. On the weekend, one of the enthusiastic cooks decided to create a special hash (which was amazing).

    5
    « Comfortable »

Very comfortable bed/bedroom. Great breakfast Staff was very helpful and friendly. I did not use pool/whirlpool but area was clean. Hotel was clean, modern décor. King room is ample size. I would recommend this hotel.

    « Good value »

ALL the Staff were very nice and helpful, The renovations are completed and look great. Loved the hot tub, good food and drink selection at the Peddler's pub. The only downside is the size of the bathroom, it's too small and no counter space. I would stay here again though, the shuttle is also convenient.

    3
« It was an okay trip. I would maybe come back if I was treated better by front desk when we needed our shuttle. Thanks. »

Please have front desk work on shuttle buses. No one had any idea on where it was or when it comes. They said it was in demand but it clearly wasn't. We waited 30-45 mins but no one helped us as customers. Very disappointed.

    5
« Excellent service and stay »

We would definitely stay with this hotel again! They paid for all of our taxi services so we didn't have to worry about trying to drive to places! They had an exceptional breakfast to choose from. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful

    « Excellent Service »

I enjoyed my stay at the Best Western Plus. The check in and check out experience was efficient. The staff was friendly and responded quickly to my needs. Locating the hotel was easy and overall the hotel was clean and comfortable. I would suggest this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay in St. Paul, MN.

« Convieniet for Amtrak travel »

We were making one of our regular trips to the Twin Cites and this one was by tyrain (Amtrak). This was the firts time we decided to stay in downtown St. Paul. The hotel was a short cab ride from the station. Thre train arrives at 10PM and we were pleased with the easy check-in. The employes during this one night stay were coureous and helpful. The hot breakfast was very good. We we be coming back in a week for a stay the night before our train home departs. The hotel will take us to the station by the hotel shuttle in the morning. The driver saide that he would leave a few minutes early if we needed to. The rest of the week we are staying at a BW in Shoreview closer to our family and friends.

« Perfect hotel for anything in Downtown St. Paul! »

We had tickets to the Wild hockey game and this hotel was the closet to downtown with free parking. It was about a mile from the stadium but they have a free shuttle! The hotel is freshly remolded and very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If we ever need to stay in St. Paul, we will be staying here.

« Good price & location, bad rooms »

Stayed for over one week in November, and it was my second stay. Pros: For the price and location, this hotel is a cost-effective option when you have one location you need to stay near. There aren't many options in this specific location. Good restaurant on-site, free parking, and the included breakfast is great. Rooms have small fridge and microwave. WiFi is good. Desk staff always great and welcoming. Cons: The rooms themselves are not clean. Upon arrival, it was obvious my room had not been vacuumed. It was not vacuumed at any point during my stay (though I only had it serviced every other day) and the hallways needed help too. Also found hair on the linens (not mine). Carpet in room was so bad I wore disposable slippers since I could see various types of hair coming up from the carpet onto the tile near the door as I walked back and forth. If you will be doing lots of reading during your stay, bring a book light! Outside of the bathroom and entry, the only lighting is provided by 3 desk lamps. The room was VERY dark. TV channel listings did not match the channels available. Also noticed, when attempting to call the desk, that the telephone for the room was not connected to anything, just sitting there as a paperweight. As another reviewed mentioned, room was WAY too warm at night, and I had the heat off. Hotel does have A/C but it was off for the winter. Ironing board was horribly bent and would not stand on its own. To top it off, one evening I discovered a garbage/cleaning cart riding up and down in an elevator by itself.

    « Great Hotel »

We were in town for a concert at the XCEL Center. Hotel is close and an easy drive to the arena. Hotel also offers a free shuttle. Although there are closer hotels, we chose this hotel mostly because of the reviews. They were correct, the employees are outstanding. Everyone notices you and says 'hi'. Great breakfast buffet and outstanding staff there too. We will use this location again for our next trip to the area.

    5
    « great experience »

This hotel has been completely remodeled with a new modern look.Rooms are decorated nicely with very comfortable beds . The continental breakfast was excellent.Good access to St.Paul/Mpls attractions and events via I-94 freeway.

    4
« Great place, OK location »

We chose this hotel because it allowed dogs and was close to downtown St. Paul. The highway was a little too close, but otherwise it was a clean, comfortable hotel with a pool. I did ask for a glass to use rather than plastic and they refused to provide it.

« Best Staff, Big Rooms, Soft Beds »

I found hotel through online search in August, stayed 2 nights with my family, staff gave us excellent recommendations for area & delivery food. I made reservation for 2nd stay before leaving because it was exactly the type of hotel I've been looking for, for the 5 years I've been traveling to the Cities!! Great for family (pool) & me (hot tub & beds to melt in!!), rooms are gorgeous, spacious & best (& important to far traveling families) they have Fridges & Microwaves, something I've long ago learned to look for in hotels, Affordable, AND Every Single Staff person is so friendly & helpful you'd think they were the owner!! This hotel does not disappoint!!

    5
    « Many amenities! »

The shuttle is a great perk - got to and from my training at nearby state agency building faster than I could drive and park. The expanded hot breakfast was incredible! Biscuits/grave, scrambled eggs, waffles, French toast, fruit, granola, steel cut oatmeal....just to name a few! The only downside was the highway noise all night - other than that the room and bed were very comfortable. I will definitely stay again!

    5
    « Wonderful Hotel! »

This is a great hotel in a great location! We so appreciated that you offered shuttle service to Xcel Energy Center as we were there for the Wild hockey game! Staff was very friendly and helpful! The continental breakfast was very good with lots of choices; and the friendly gentleman that greeted us and made sure we had what we needed was an added benefit!

« Great hotel that has been updated nicely »

Easy to get to and great staff. Hotel is older but nicely remodeled and clean. I did not use any of the amenities other than Wi-Fi. Food and service was good. Restaurant/Lounge is small but well maintained with good food and good prices. I would recommend this hotel and I will stay here again.

    5
    « Very Impressed »

The lobby at the hotel was clean, and inviting. The staff was courteous, professional, and helpful. We had a problem with the TV remote, and our key-cards. The staff fixed the issues right away. Although they were minor issues, they treated them as important as any other. The rooms were clean, and tidy. I would definitely stay here again, and have already recommended this hotel to other friends and coworkers.

    « A/C? »

I stayed here for business last week. The hotel is nice and clean. Everything seemed updated and in good working order. My room was 76 degrees upon check in- I didn't think much about it and turned the temp down to 65 and went to bed. When I woke in the middle of the night, I was surprised to find my room was still 76 degrees. The front desk advised me that "we are an old hotel and we do not have air conditioning. If you'd like, you can open the window or I can bring you some fans." The window only opens about 3" and doesn't have a screen. How do you do a complete remodel and not add a/c units? What is it like in the summer?? Also, the compressor on the ice maker just outside my door squealed every time it kicked in. I tried to give it a shake/bump but it wouldn't stop. The hotel was full for the conference so changing rooms wasn't an option. I would not stay here again, only for this reason, I prefer it to be cool when I sleep. Not much point in staying somewhere if you can't get a restful nights sleep.

    5
    « Wonderful place »

Check in was fast, very helpful and acknowledged as soon as you walk in the door. Took a shuttle to Xcel...Alex was amazing! So nice and took us right to our restaurant of choice. PIck up was a little slow after concert but it was still nice to have this service. Beds were most comfortable, the room was a little on the warm side even after turning AC down. Breakfast was a great perk the next morning, beef hash and red potatoes were the best. Only one complaint...the signs outside the parking gates need to say press 5# AFTER you enter or take your ticket.

    5
« Awesome place to stay »

I stayed here because it was close to my meetings and it offered a free shuttle. The staff was very friendly and engaging. The hotel was clean and attractive. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. I will stay here again!

    5
« Close to the Xcel Energy Center »

Very nice hotel for the price on a concert night. Newly updated rooms and a decent continental breakfast. They have a shuttle that will take you and pick up at the venue, gate 4. If you wanted to walk, it would be about a 15-20 minute walk. We would recommend this hotel. Pet Friendly which is a plus!!!!

    5
« Great location for the price. »

Great location and great price compared to the hotels downtown. Only a 10-15 min. walk to downtown and 5 min. walk to Saint Paul's Cathedral. The hotel was clean, nice bar/lounge, great pool and hot tub, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel also has a free shuttle to and from downtown venues. We would stay at the BW again.

    « Very nice »

We had a very pleasant experience. Our room was very clean, lobby was very nice, complimentary breakfast was good, and the bar/restaurant area had good food. Stayed here due to location and would definitely stay again.

    « Twin Cities Marathon »

I stayed here for 3 nights recenty with my wife and two 6-year old daughters. We were in the area for me to run the Twin Cities Marathon on Sun., Oct. 1st. As far as the location, I would highly recommend it to any future runners looking for a place to stay directly next to the finish line. My wife and daughters were able to walk out the front door of the hotel and almost literally be right at the finish line of the marathon to see me finish the race. I thought the value as far as price paid for what you get was great as well. In other words, the price was very reasonable for such a great location next to the finish line as well as the quality of the hotel. Also, we thought the quality of the hotel was great. Everything seemed clean. Check in and check out was very easy. Computers in the lobby with easy printing for boarding passes. Restaurant near the lobby, which I did not personally eat at, but my wife and daughters at breakfast there while I ran the race and only had positive things to say. Parking was easy. The beds in the room were extremely comfortable. I could go on. Lastly, we took the shuttle to and from the hotel on Saturday to go to the RiverCentre for packet pickup and expo for my race. We had a great experience with that. The shuttle runs on demand. The driver immediately took us and dropped us on when we notified them we wanted a ride, and immediately came and picked us up when we were finished and called back to the hotel to let them know we were ready for pick up. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel, particularly if you are going to the area to run the Twin Cities Marathon.

« Clean and comfortable with great staff »

Everything was clean and well decorated. The bed was very comfortable. The shower head was tall enough that I didn't have to contort to wash my hair. The hot breakfast was delicious. But above everything else, the staff is what stands out in my mind. The front desk clerks, the shuttle driver- everyone was friendly. Even the housekeeper that I passed in the hall smiled and said "good morning." I have to call out the breakfast staff, in particular. I'd had a late night out and tried to sneak in at the tail end of breakfast, expecting to get a very quick meal before they shut everything down. What I found was not what I expected. I had time to sit down and didn't feel rushed at all. The food was still hot and the eggs were not dried out. Josh asked a few times if he could get me anything else or if I needed more coffee. He and Yolanda really made it a pleasant morning, even with my hangover. The hotel was also very easy to get to, for those of us who don't drive in the city very often. That's part of why I chose it. I would recommend this place without hesitation. If I had to find something to complain about... the bathroom in the room was beautiful, but the counter was small. That made it a little challenging to get ready for the night out. And the wardrobe in the room was a little musty- not dirty by any means, but it had a strong scent just from being closed up and unused so I didn't want to hang my clothes in it.

« Great value, clean, comfortable »

I was a late arrival. Greeted immediately by friendly staff. Hastle free stay. I enjoyed there spa (hot tub). Pool area clean and nice. This was my first stay at this best western plus. The breakfast buffet was hidden behind the bar. For those who dont know.

    « nice & clean »

I was very impressed with the great staff and the hotel was spotless. Very good food there as well. Breakfast was great. The rooms were very nice, having a fridge, microwave & coffee makers. They had a great menu as well to choose from if you dined there.

« Clean and very friendly »

The hotel is clean, with very friendly staff. Good location near the state capitol building, St. Paul's Cathedral, and downtown St. Paul. Do not eat at the onsite pub: there are far better options within easy walking distance, but the hotel is nice. Breakfast was the usual hotel buffet, which I find unpalatable. Why don't they just cook everything to order, fresh? It can't cost that much more than the horrible buffet they put out now.

    5
« Great experience, helpful staff »

We had a great experience staying at BW. We were in town because my Grandfather was in United hospital. The hotel over all was nice. The shutter service was exceptional. John, the driver, was both a skilled driver and enjoyable to talk with. He was very prompt on timing and flexible as far as dropping us off at different locations. He also gave my children a stuffed animal after our last trip, which they loved.

« DON'T USE BEST WESTERN IN ST PAUL, MN »

Hotel desk attendant was rude and disrespectful, curt and unapologetically unhelpful with getting a reasonable room at a reasonable rate. Rooms are over-priced and if you don't have to do business in St Paul, MN, I recommend you stay out of this city. It has been taken over by non-American foreigners and no longer feels like it is even part of America. But if you have to stay in St Paul, don't stay at Best Western. I will dump my BW REWARDS card.

« Great location to the City of Minneapolis and StPaul »

Beautiful hotel and excellent staff at this hotel.. Information was available regarding sites and events in the area. Surprisingly the food was great too. Also the price of the rooms were afffordable. As senors our stay was excellent.

    « Low Ceilings »

Everything about the room was lovely except the fact that the ceilings were so low. The shower ceiling seemed especially low for us tall people. The beds were comfy and the breakfast delicious. We were refreshed and ready to resume our "Oregon Trail" trip to Portland.

    « State Fair »

There are not many hotels close to the MN State Fair and I wasn't sure this would work out. To my surprise they had a great shuttle service that made it so easy. Also, downtown St Paul is charming and we had great walks to the Farmers Market, the cathedral and historic district. It was really pleasant.

    « Excellant Stay »

I was in town for some training and was thoroughly impressed with my stay at the Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge. It was conveniently located for me to get to my training and also to get on the highway to head south into Lakeville and other towns south of the cities to visit relatives. The staff was absolutely amazingly helpful and courteous. I thought the price seemed a bit high, but I didn't do any comparisons and the program agency paid for my room.

« Great Staff, Good Breakfast, Clean Room »

We came to attend the Minnesota State Fair. The shuttle service provided was worth the cost and walking time saved. We stayed four nights and the breakfast was first rate. The staff was friendly and helpful from front desk to housekeeping. Pool and hot tub were fantastic. Only complaint was a warped bathroom door that wouldn't shut and the room was warm at night.

« Great Place to Stay »

Great place to stay. Close to downtown ST Paul without the parking issues. Staff is friendly and helpful. Hotel is willing to shuttle you downtown for dinner or shopping and pick you up when desired. Very quiet environment for sleeping. Clean and newly updated rooms.

« Clean Comfortable and close to the Capitol »

It was my wife's birthday and she had never been to or toured the State Capitol building. So this hotel was a no brainer because it's withing walking distance of the Capitol building. Our first impression was that it's a very nice hotel. The lobby is clean bright and nicely decorated. The young woman at the desk was very courteous and helpful as we were a bit early for check in and they didn't have a room ready. So we decided to go take the tour of the Capitol while we waited. Upon our return the same young woman at he desk had our room ready. We were using points for this stay and I am a Diamond level rewards member. I was a bit disappointed that we weren't offered or automatically given a room upgrade. We have been upgraded at just about every other Best Western we have stayed at. But maybe the fine print in the agreement says you don't get upgrades when using points. Some how though it doesn't seem like it should matter. This was a very very minor annoyance that in no way detracted from our stay. Anyway, our room was very nice, recently renovated, clean and comfortable. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was a bit small, but really how much time do you spend in the bathroom anyway. I was a little dismayed that there wasn't a binder in the room with a hotel directory in it. Also no information on the Best Western Rewards program. Minor things, but they should be in the room. The next morning we made use of their fitness room which was typical for hotels of this type. Two treadmills, a couple stationary bikes and a cable machine. Completely adequate for my needs. Breakfast was again typical, no waffle maker but they had scrambled eggs, sausage, hash of some sort and the usual selection of cereals, oatmeal, pastries, coffee and juices. One thing I really liked was that they had Almond milk, that was a big plus for me as I shy away from regular milk. All in all we had a nice stay and will return if the need for us to stay in St Paul ever comes up again.

    « Thank you »

Thank you to the kiind, courteous professional staff-they were amazing in all areas for making my stay so great in a trying time. The shuttle is convenient, food very good, staff exceptional. I'm lucky I landed here when I booked online as I didn't know where to stay.

« Another great BW experience »

Best Western is my hotel of choice and this was no exception. This facility has updated its appearance and is a very convenient, and pleasant place to stay. Within walking distance of many of the St. Paul destination locations, it is a great choice. It is quiet and clean with a very helpful staff.

    « Disgusting! »

Sadly, we didn't give the room a once over until the next morning when we were packing up to leave. The long, black hair (I have short blonde hair) in the shower, pony tail holder on the floor and sticky nights stand, I probably could have let go. Gross, but not anything I really had to come in contact with. As I was doing a final check to make sure we had all of our belongings, I found a credit card receipt dated 4 days prior to our stay IN the sheets IN the bed! I can only assume that this means my husband and I slept on dirty bedding and am THOROUGHLY disgusted! When I said something to the gal working the front desk, she said she would have the front desk manager call me. Three days later and still no call, so I called back and left a message for the general manager this morning. It is now end of business day, and I have not heard anything back. I am disgusted by the fact I slept in dirty bedding, and even more disgusted at the lack of response from this hotel. I will never stay at this hotel again.

    « Great Hotel »

Overall a great hotel. My room was very clean. It was quiet. Great staff. Wonderful free, easy parking. Hotel is located near major roads, easy access to get on quickly and get to my destinations. Only thing that I would improve is the height of the ceiling in the bathroom, a little claustrophobic feeling.

« Great hotel for the price! »

Continental breakfast was one of the best I have ever had. Lounge had great knowledgeable staff. Modern design. Close to all of St. Paul, MN attractions and restaurants. Close to children's hospitals and museums.

« Clean, updated, easy access. »

Chose this hotel because it was close to Xcel Energy Center, St Paul MN, for a concert (1/2 mile). Very pleased with everything, room was clean and updated Great breakfast buffet also. Appreciated shuttle to Xcel Energy Center.

This hotel is very clean, closes to the Cathedral, and Minnesota Capitol. The hotel is close to twin cities and Mall of America. The breakfast was good. Overall, the facility is really clean. I really enjoyed my stay.

« Great on the outside and inside »

The hotel is esthetically appealing. The restaurant food was very worth the $$. The shuttle is convenient as well. With the new room remodels, it feels like you are staying in a brand-new hotel. It smells new, feels new and the staff are professionally dressed. The continental breakfast is one of the main reasons I chose this hotel for my business trips to St. Paul.

    « Newly Remodeled »

Very nice hotel right by the capital and Hwy! Pool looks like it was just redone as well! Rooms were very clean and crisp! Nice that they have a lounge restaurant so you don't have to leave to get a quick bite to eat at night.

    « Accommodating »

Courteous staff, nice location, not far from airport, and a very good breakfast. The room was clean and the bathroom tub\\shower was clean with good water pressure. Shuttle service available for 3 mile radius.

« Excellent place to stay »

This hotel was an excellent place to stay. The hotel was recently completed up dating its decor which is pleasant and welcoming. The rooms are tight but we had no intentions of staying indoors during our visit. The front desk clerks were very pleasant and helpful as were the waitresses/bartenders in the restaurant. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The shuttle service and its drivers were an unexpected perk of our stay! If you need to go further than three miles from the hotel the nearest Metro stop is only 2 blocks away, an easy walk. The only complaint our party had was the pool's temperature, it was a little too cool for our liking. I would certainly stay at the Capitol Ridge again.

« Pet friendly hotel walking distance from State Capitol »

Pleasantly surprised with this hotel because it was pet friendly and walking distance from the stunning Minnesota State Capitol building. Pet friendly for a fee of $20 per night. Ours was waived because we were a rewards member. We got an upgrade with the only available pet room on the 4th floor, which was right beside the ice machine (we appreciated this) and the elevator. The room was HUGE. I wished though that there was a proper dining table for eating meals.

    « Great Hotel! »

Hands down would recommended this hotel! Super nice staff, they have a pub that serves delicious food, and open until midnight for drinks. Free, hot breakfast in the morning, a free shuttle service that is very convenient if seeing a show at the xcel or doing something else close. Comfy beds and bigger then most hotel size fridges in room, nothing negative to say about my stay here

    « AMAZING »

This hotel was amazing. Employees were friendly and welcoming. Lounge was fun, clean, and friendly- drinks & food were really good! Manager was very nice, friendly, informational. Room & hotel was very clean. Very nice soaps, shampoo, etc. LOVED the big, soft, comfy bed- I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud! Breakfast was good! Hot pancakes, juice, and plenty of other choices!

« Comfortable stay with updates and pleasant staff »

We booked this room last minute due to problems with an Airbnb we had planned on staying. One hitch was that I called to ask about a room, and they said they were booked. I then went to bestwestern.com, and was able to book the room...so that was weird. The room we got was an odd layout, and seemed to not be the same scheme as online pictures. However, I'm not complaining as the room we got was HUGE. We had the ice machine on one side, and a little storage room on the other side, so no neighbors! The room was clean, the staff was nice, especially the restaurant staff. They have a nice, basic indoor pool/hot tub. A definite bonus was the free breakfast daily, basic continental. It was a definite plus to save money and grab something to eat quick before the day. I really don't have a bad thing to say. It was a good price, a 10 minute walk to downtown, with nice staff and rooms.

« Comfortable bed; breakfast only until 9 am. »

Upon arrival, plumbing did not work..called front desk and they had shut it off due to issues. Would have been nice to know upon check in... Thankfully we had hand sanitizer with until plumbing was fixed. A/C unit was really loud in the AM right before we checked out... Not sure why. Breakfast was only served until 9 am so unfortunately we missed it. Bed was very comfortable...thankfully!!

    « Communication »

Upon checking in, tell your guests that there is no water in the hotel so they have the option to stay at another hotel. We were outside all day, sunscreen and sweat. We couldn't wait to get in and shower before we went to fogo de chao (Awesome) and GnR (Awesome!!). Instead, I was melting friggin ice cubes. Thanks for nothing Worst Western Ever!!

    « Loved our stay »

The rooms are modern and comfortable. The breakfast bar was well organized and the staff was really helpful. The hotel is well worth it and the location is super nice! Me and my family were able to visit most of the attractions from there.

« Best breakfast experience and most pleasant staff »

We do not have any complaints about our stay. The staff at the front desk were most pleasant and friendly, our room was clean, the room temperature was just right, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was the best breakfast at any hotel we stayed at. The food was continually stocked, the area was kept clean and the staff were so accommodating, friendly and hard-working. We will be staying here again.

    « Will Stay Again! »

Location and facility were top-notch! Nice rooms and bar, close to capitol/grounds and trains! Loved visiting the Capitol and Cathedral that are both nearby. Was very nice to be able to walk to the train--which we took into St. Paul and Minneapolis to several wonderful sites!

Very pleasant hotel, king bed room spacious, clean, very comfortable. Bathroom clean, shower great. Easy parking. Great location. No airport shuttle, just local within 3 miles - did not use it. Hot breakfast ok, but same each morning. Had nice fruit. Hotel staff very pleasant and accommodating. Could not stay the last night as the room price nearly double due to a concert. Overall, highly recommend.

« Great place to stay »

I chose this location because it was a short easy walk to the Minnesota Historical Society. They do have a shuttle service that will take you within a 3 mile radius of the hotel if needed. The hotel did not disappoint! Superb breakfast, nice rooms, excellent location for State Capital needs or spending time doing research at the Gales Library.

« 3 Star Experience due to lack of amenities and LOUD construction noise. »

We had to stay at this hotel because of an athletic association's rules. The hotel has been newly renovated and the beds are good and towels, decent and fluffy. Water pressure is o.k. and the bathrooms nice. The staff members who service the rooms are amazing. The rooms are clean. The downsides are: 1. Horrible construction noise and no offer of a discount at check out.. Also, no notice on the website that property continues to undergo renovations. 2. No room service and a breakfast buffet, that while adequate, closes before its scheduled time if no one is in the dining room. Because the property is isolated you have to drive to get your coffee if you miss the buffet. 3. Food service in the restaurant ends at 9:00 p.m. last call is between 10:45-11:00 p.m. If you are playing into the evening, this is a huge inconvenience trying to feed a group of athletes. 4. There is no dry cleaning or laundry service per amenities section. There are token operated washer and dryers. 5. There is no safety deposit box at the desk per the website amenities section. 6. If you are doing anything in Minneapolis, book another hotel because this is a 10-15 minute trip via cab or Uber to downtown on a holiday weekend. For the price they charge per room, I think Best Western needs to extend their food and beverage hours to accommodate guests.

    « Nice Hotel »

This hotel is nice. Still in the process of being remodeled. Food is good in the lounge but service is super slow. Staff not very knowledgeable about places to eat. Beds are super comfy. Once the renovations are done I would go back. A little noisy in the morning from the workers.

« Stayed here for a concert at the Xcel Center »

Hotel worked out great for our concert. We could walk to the stadium in less than 15 minutes. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were in good shape and seeing the construction going on they are working on keeping things up to date. I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area.

    « Close to everything »

Atfirst we were hesitant if we had chosen the right place, but after our first day of exploring, we realized that these hotel was so central and close to transportation and all downtown attractions. We left our vehicle at the hotel during the three days and did everything on foot an by Metro.

« Nice Hotel, Good Location »

They have recently remodeled this hotel. The decor is nice and modern. My room was small but comfortable. There was a microwave and refrigerator in the room. They now serve complimentary hot breakfast buffet. Nice selection of hot food items (eggs, pancakes, sausage, potatoes), plus the standard continental breakfast items (bagels, danish, muffins, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruits etc.). There is a free shuttle that will take you wherever you need to go in a 3 mile radius. Shuttle service was fast. Very pleased with my stay.

    « Worth the price »

I was concerned that this hotel was too far away from the convention center, but it was actually perfect! And, If I didn't want to walk, they offered a shuttle to drop us off or pick us up! It was very clean, the room was very nice and comfortable. I am totally planning to stay there next year!

    3
    « Sub-standard »

1st of all I want to state that the hotel is completely remodeled. The rooms are extremely small. The bathroom is micro, with no counter to place your personal hygiene items on. The beds are comfortable. Now onto my why I am placing this review. When we checked in they had us checking in the night before when in fact that I had a confirmation from the hotel stating our actual check in date. She proceeded to tell me that they were booked for that nite and that the only rooms that she had left were 1 room with no heat ( we just had a snow storm it was 25 degrees out) or one that they were unsure of what the temp was in the room because the thermostat did not work. She however offer me a 50,00 reduction in the hotel fee. (WOW). Since it was late and we all were tired after being on the road for 5 hours we decided to take the room. We decided to have a bite to eat at the restaurant were they proceeded to tell me that they did not have any ranch dressing left (SORRY....) what restaurant runs out of ranch dressing? The next morning went down for coffee well guess what, "so sorry I am out of regular coffee I sent someone out to the store for more". Once again really who runs out of regular coffee at 7:30a in the morning. As you can see not overall very happy with our experience with this hotel.

    4
« Unhappy about the Bar »

Overall the Hotel and rooms are excellent, the only concern we had was that the Bar closes at 11 pm on a Concert/Sporting Event night and we were looking forward to unwinding with a few drinks and there was nothing except to go to bed. Not impressed with that

    « Nice hotel »

It is a great hotel to stay at to go to wild games. We love it however this time they were still working on the hotel and did not offer comp. For the inconvenience. Some things are starting to open up and other parts are still under construction. Trying to get to the lobby is crazy.

    « Remodeled, Looking Good »

This hotel has obviously just finished a renovation. Actually I shouldn't say finished, since they are still working on the 7th floor. I was trying to work from my room this afternoon and there was loud banging and drilling going on a couple of rooms down. I can't hold that against them though because not many people are stuck in their hotel room at 2 in the afternoon so I'm sure they thought that they wouldn't be bothering anyone. My room is nice. The bed is comfortable, but the first night the sheets were too big and had a hard time staying put. The wi-fi is pretty good, though I wished there was also the option to plug in with a line to get a more consistent connection. The room is clean and obviously just redone. Everything in it seems brand new including the ironing board, the shower curtain, and the hair dryer. It's so brand new that I found a piece of wire in my bed from them working on wiring and another one on the floor. . The toiletries are okay but there is no lotion. I would think that would be a small cost to the hotel and would add a nice bonus for the guest. The bathroom is a little too small to be functional. You can't really do much to get ready comfortably in the bathroom. Also, when you turn on the light switch it turns on a very loud bathroom fan. The fan would be nicer if it could be turned on and off independently of the light. They have a shuttle that will take you anywhere within 3 miles of the hotel. That was a nice benefit. I wished it ran a little later into the evening though. The breakfast is included with your room right and it was okay. Front desk staff are very nice and helpful. I I hoped to get a drink at the hotel bar one evening but it had closed early. That was disappointing. The most problematic part of the stay is that the temperature unit in the room doesn't control the temperature. They have obviously just put a new one in, because there's a big hole underneath the thermostat. The wall literally has a big hole where the old one used to be I guess. That looks bad, but is not as bad as not being able to control the temperature in your room. I asked the cleaning lady when she was in today if she knew how to do it and she said I was doing it right but there was a known problem. I'm not sure what's wrong with it but no matter what temperature I set the thermostat at it doesn't change the temperature of the room. So it's been either too hot or too cold for the whole stay. It's nothing that is hugely disturbing but the temperature of the room is something that I expect to be able to control while I'm at a hotel. The renovations of the spaces seem to be well done they just need to go back in and check each room to make sure all of the little things are functional. Hotel seems surprisingly empty so I hope that they get some gas to start staying here to recoup their renovation investments

    « Definitely stay again »

Pros Clean and well decorated room. The bed was comfortable, slept through the nights from exhausting days. Everyone of the staffs we encounter were very friendly and helpful. The staffs that ran the free continental breakfast buffet did a excellent job on refilling everything. Hotel is easy to get to and free parking! Cons I dont mind punching the code when entering the premises but wish the bar would automatically go up when going out. Lastly it would be nice if the tv monitor for the pool and jacuzzi was out of sight from everyone in the lobby. I have a sick family member whom I'm trying to visit at least once every 2 months. I will definitely stay here again instead of downtown.

    « Reasonable hotel »

Nice rooms. Josh who runs the breakfast buffet goes out of his way to be helpful. But buffet itself was so so. Pancake machine was cool. Our room was near byway and noise level was high. Had trouble with air conditioner.

« Very comfortable place to stay. »

Since the total remodeling, it's a new and beautiful place that's close to many things. Parking is free and there's a free breakfast now. Staff is very friendly and eager to please you. I especially want to say the breakfast dining room attendant, Cherelle, did an excellent job of waiting upon the customers. I noticed she was adding more freshly made scrambled eggs about 10 minutes before the closing time and asked her about waste. She indicated many guests wait until the last minute to come to breakfast, and she wanted to make certain there was food available. The pancake making machine was a delight to watch for the younger children. Everything was very clean. Our room on the 6th floor was quiet - we were not on the side of the freeway traffic or close to the cooling equipment. Of course, the view did not include the beautiful Cathedral or the sunrise, but a quiet night of sleep was better. The bold one colored wall was interesting. Bathroom area was a bit small and the constant fan noise was annoying. It came on when the light was turned on. Nice closet and dresser storage. Nice mini fridge and microwave.

    « Dissappointed »

On a business trip with expectations of amentities on site only to find the hotel was under construction and the pool, bar and restaurant were all closed. In addition, the business center was unable to assist me with completion of tasks as I could not access the internet or print. In addition, my bathroom ceiling flooded during my stay, though, maintenance was not available to assist me at that time as it was after 9 pm. The shuttle did not run past 9 pm and without a restaurant on site I had to travel for dinner. Overall, the room cleanliness was poor, with pet hair along the walls/carpet. I could go on, but overall just a poor experience.

« Staff made up for missing amenities »

Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge was under going serious construction when we stayed. However, we hosted our wedding block here, and we couldn't have been happier! The manager went above and beyond, as did all his front desk staff. Housekeeping was very courteous and cheerful. We felt welcomed and well taken care of. Renting a shuttle through them was also easy, convenient, and the driver was very pleasant.

« Great, and will be even better after construction »

Starting with the location- it's a pretty great location. You can see the stunning Cathedral of St Paul (not to be confused with the capitol building) from the south side of the hotel. You're right next to the interstate, which was a good thing since it can't be heard from inside the hotel and it makes for easy travel. The construction on the exterior and our room was clearly already completed. It looks very sleek from the outside and the room was very nice. The lady who checked us in was extremely friendly and the rest of the staff was pretty friendly as well. The lobby was still under construction when we went, so it looked pretty rundown, but once we got to our room, we never could have known it was under construction. We were on the second floor on the north side of the hotel, which has the worst view in the entire hotel (a metal wall of sorts), so if you care about view, request not to have that area. Once construction is completed the hotel restaurant will be serving free hot breakfast, which will be nice. As for the breakfast they served when we were there - it was good enough. Eggs, bacon, and pancakes were the hot options, along with the typical non-hot items. Free parking was also a great perk. You can (safely) walk to downtown from there, although you do go through a part of downtown briefly that has some homeless and 'street' people. So, if you're afraid to say no to a person asking for money or you're alone, just drive. Only other things worth while mentioning are that there was a fridge and microwave in the room and that the shower is a walk in shower with no tub. Otherwise, the room was a nice, typical, clean room.

« Under construction. Worn, smelly room. »

I booked this hotel based on price and location. Come to find out, upon arrival, that the hotel is under construction and the water would be shut off from midnight until 4 am. They did not get the water turned back on until closer to 6 am, preventing me from taking a hot shower prior to my business meeting and day of travel. When I called the front desk to speak to a manager I was told he would call me back. Two weeks later and I've never heard from them. The room very worn with stains in the bathroom and cigarette stink on the walls. I'm traveling back to St Paul at the end of this month and definitely will not be staying at this hotel. Very poor customer service.

« My reservation was cancelled by the hotel 2 days before our expected arrival »

My husband and I plus another couple were booked here to celebrate 2 birthdays in the group. We had dinner reservations and tickets to the Ordway Theatre. Made all of our arrangement only to be emailed 2 days ahead of the event to say the hotel was overbooked and our reservations were no longer valid. Will not recommend this hotel. Very disappointed. We ended up staying in MPls as there no longer were rooms in St. PAul of which were affordable.

    « Never Again »

First off, the hotel was under construction and the bar/lounge/restaurant was not open. We waited for 50 minutes for the shuttle service and called 3 separate times. They never communicated with the driver we were waiting, then had shift change and still nobody told the driver. We really enjoyed Alex as our driver, but we are sad that he works for a company like this. I'll give him 5 stars, other than that you get one star.

    « Overbooking »

We are extremely disappointed, we booked a reservation on 8-4 through trip advisor for the night of 8-9. On 8-7 (we get an email, not a phone call which if traveling not everyone has access to email) telling us the hotel was over booked and we no longer have a place to stay, they were willing to re-book us in a hotel quite far away, which defeats the purpose of booking so close to our venue. We had to cancel our arranged transportation as well as other arrangements made for that evening which was very time consuming and put us in a horrible position!! They were irresponsible in their professional commitment to trusting customers, and do you really think I would allow them to re-book us a room after the above stated??? It was very upsetting to us, I can't imagine if we trusted them to arrange flight/hotel and transportation for us and have this happen. Use this site with caution!! We were told that this hotel did NOT tell them of the situation despite stating in contact with trip advisor!

    « Under Major Construction! »

You would think a hotel chain as large as Best Western would indicate on their website that a hotel is under massive renovations. There was no lobby, no restaurant, and barely a reception desk. Hotel rooms are dirty, outdated, smell old, have low ceilings, and bathrooms feel like you are in a small camper, and not a nice one. We had to switch rooms because of a leaking fridge with food in it - Yuck!

« Nicest people in a hotel ever »

John, the shuttle driver and Deanna, the front desk person, and both of the people manning the breakfast room were some of the kindest people I have ever encountered in a hotel/motel. When I called to see if I could store my luggage there (our train arrived way earlier than check in time), they immediately sent the shuttle. When John arrive we were greeted as if we were family, treated as if we were family, while John went above and beyond to help us get an idea of what we were going to plan for our family during our short stay in St. Paul. When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with kindness and given access to our room early since one was available. I asked if they thought that coffee might perhaps still be available at the breakfast room and we were sent up there to take that chance. As it turns out, the young man up there made sure that we had access to breads, muffins, pancakes, juices, yogurts, and the beloved COFFEE! We were so thankful. The kindness extended when the John offered to shuttle us to one of the local attractions that was inexpensive and then agreed to come in a few minutes early the next day to get us to our train on time. What a fabulous experience... Because of the hospitality, I barely even notices the construction.

    « Excellent »

Always a great stay, great staff, and getting better with the hotel improvements. A beautiful walk from the hotel to downtown St Paul. Not to far away from MOA. Shuttle service to Shriner's hospital and around St Paul. We always stay here.

    « Good value & location »

Nice place to stay. It was pet friendly and the staff was nice overall. It is undergoing renovation but they kept the noise away. Clean rooms, good food. No complaints. It is in a good location. I would ask for an upper floor.

    4
    « Above Average »

My stay experience was above average, was not the most fancy hotel but a great deal and well worth the money. Guest service was about average, nothing too complicated. Same service you get at any friendly retail store. Besides the line of wait at check in, the check out process was less than 5 seconds, they asked for our name, room number, and key cards and we were out. I would return to this hotel in the near future for other trips.

    « Short Review »

We chose this BW due to its proximity to the Amtrak train station. One problem was no van service because it was the 3rd of July. But breakfast was excellent, especially the chocolate chips and pancakes.

    « A nice place to stay. »

The hotel was under construction so that part of it was not that great, but the breakfast and everything else was worthwhile! The staff were friendly, the amenities were nice, and it was close enough to downtown!

    « Don't mind the construction... »

Nice room, great breakfast staff, good protein options for breakfast (eggs, almond milk, Greek yogurt, bananas, etc), and right of I-94. It was a good stay for business purposes. Only problem is I could not get the printer to work in business center/fitness room.

    3
    « Under Construction »

OK for under construction but water temperature did not remain constant. Noise from construction occurred periodically. Only three days was ok. And the scrabbled eggs are reconstituted instead of real eggs.

    4
« Nice Room, Friendly Staff »

I picked this hotel because of its proximity to the State Capitol and was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and willing to help and the room was clean with (woo hoo!) comfortable pillows! Bathroom was a little small, the overall a good hotel experience.

    3
    « Under construction »

It would have been nice if the website had indicated that the property was under construction. I don't think I would've stayed here had I known this. I was counting on using the on-site restaurant after check-in, but come to find out there is no restaurant while the remodel is taking place. Had to order take out, with limited options.

« Comfortable Place to Stay »

We stayed here one night before we planned to board the train in St. Paul the next day. The location was fairly close to the station and they provided a shuttle. Unfortunately, the shuttle didn't show up the morning we were leaving, but an on-the-ball clerk called a taxi (free to us) and we made it to our train before it left. The hotel is being renovated, but we did not experience any noise at all while we were there. We enjoyed the cute Western Sculpture Garden nearby.

    « Construction Nightmare! »

We stayed here to attend a Wild hockey game. The hotel did not tell me it was under construction at booking. It was so loud, we couldn't even hear the TV! The noise began around 6:00 am! We paid $170 to stay for 1 sleepless night! Because of this experience & a waste of money- I would never return here.

    4
« Great staff, nice hotel »

The staff was great. Very kind and helpful. Hotel was under renovation, which did not impact our stay in any way. The appearance of the hotel will only improve the look of the hotel. The staff did not seem to need improvement.

    2
    « Distracting Construction »

This was a relatively adequate hotel, with friendly, helpful staff and a couple of nice amenities ? in particular, a shuttle service which will drop you off and pick you up in the nearby downtown areas within a 10 minute drive or so. The pool was nice and sizable, and seemed clean and well-kept. The room was decent - bed was fine, but the bathroom was a bit iffy - seemed outdated, with a decent-sized hole around the showerhead. My main gripe here was that they were in the middle of a major (re)construction, during which they are remaining open. The main entrance was closed, which made accessing the place was a minor inconvenience (and hard for our Uber drivers/food delivery to locate). More importantly, walking through the lobby on a couple of occasions, the air seemed dusty and filled with some debris and gave me some coughing fits. I understand construction is necessary at times, but better efforts to keep the main areas clear should have been taken. There was no indication whatsoever on their website that the construction was ongoing. And I really don't feel as if the price we paid reflected any kind of discount on their base rate whatsoever, which I think might be warranted given the ongoing construction.

    « Construction Disaster Area »

Would not even consider returning to this hotel until all construction and renovations of the exterior and interior are completed. The exterior was surrounded with scaffolding, entrance was difficult to locate, lobby is under construction, restaurant was closed for renovation. Rooms are tired, old broken in mattresses with big sags in the middle. Only great thing was the view of the cathedral from my window. Don

    « Wonderful Experience! »

After many stays at the Embassy Suites downtown St. Paul, one stay with the new Best Western Plus was amazing!!! I thought the experience would be less than the Embassy Suites, however; it was much better even with the remodeling going on. We just loved it, very kid friendly as well. Anita

« Running right during construction »

Hotel I knew from before, undergoing quite a lot of renovation so there is construction equipment, sheets of heavy plastic etc. The hotel and rooms were perfectly clean, staff was friendly, on top of all their work. Very well run.

    5
    « Minnesota Youth Trip »

Our stay was AWESOME. We really enjoyed ourselves. We loved the Pool and Hot Tub. There was a great scene of the Cathedral and It was close to our meeting place. The Beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The Staff were Nice and Helpful. We enjoyed the Breakfast and Internet. Should we return, we would stay here again.

    « Changes are coming »

We have stayed at this hotel before. The rates are comparable of other hotels in the area. Our primary reason for staying at this location is the convenience to the XCEL Energy Center. We take the shuttle to XCEL, and then walk back to the hotel when the concert is over. The walk is only about 8 blocks, and gives us a chance to get some fresh air. The hotel also offers free shuttle service to other sites in the area. The hotel was somewhat dated, but they are in the process of doing some major remodeling inside and out. I look forward to see the future changes. We have always experienced clean rooms, friendly staff, and always a good experience at check-in, and checking out. The front desk has always been a help with questions, and information about the area. They do have a pool, but we never have the time to use it. We never visited the restaurant, so it was not a problem that it is closed during the remodeling. We usually order pizza and eat in the room. Starting in January, they now offer a complementary hot breakfast, which is something they never offered before. The breakfast consisted of the usual cereal, fruit, etc., as well as hot scrambled eggs, sausage, and pancakes. Will stay here again when in the area.

    « Hotel Stay »

Hotel was under construction but that didn't interfere in regards to any noises heard while in room. The staff were excellent in regards to answering questions, checking us in and so forth. The pool facilities were great and we would stay again.

    « Remodel »

This Hotel is under a face-lift/remodel. AC in the building was less than impressive and this was mid April. I am sure the construction played a part but wait until the job is done before staying here when it really heats up.

    1
    « Wouldn't come back; call beforehand »

Under remodel and there is no restaurant or bar. This information is not advertised, so it is misleading. If you're paying more than $49/night, pick a different place. Or better, sleep in the car......

    3
    « Somewhat disappointed »

Hotel rooms were clean Outside was a mess with construction ease of entry was not good. No Dining or Bar on site as indicated on Web Site. The staff was very helpful the shuttle service to downtown was very good, Overall not a bad place to stay would be better when construction is done

    « Renovations badly needed! »

Hotel leaves much to be desired, other than a great location for the purpose of my trip. Felt dirty, rooms badly needed updating, long dingy hallways. All this for a high price. Breakfast was adequate other than all the milk was spoiled. Hopefully, things change soon for this hotel.

    « Best Western Plus »

Hotel is undergoing some renovations to the lounge and dining area so it is difficult to give a complete review. When conducting business at the Capitol, it is a great location. Competitively priced, great breakfast and decent but small work out facility.

    4
    « Hockey Fun »

We had a wonderful time at the Best Western, especially with the great shuttle service to and from the XCel Hockey Arena. This is a great asset for those who don't want the hassle of driving in traffic and paying for parking! Go Hawks!

    « hotel stay »

good visit overall. however, I feel that they maybe upped the price of the room considering the events that were taking place in the area. customer service was pretty good, made the stay enjoyable. it was nice having shuttle service available. I will be staying here again next year.

    « Disgusting hotel »

I agree with Melody. This place is disgusting, starting with the filthy grounds and parking area. Every kind of waste possible is present here. I too, was not told when reserving that it is under construction and that the restaurant is closed. The hotel was scarcely booked but I was assigned to a room overlooking the Sears parking lot and the renovation constructions zone. I awoke to men talking and moving up and down on a scaffolding right in front of my window. The room smelled strongly of deodorizer, was noisy, the shower faucet was broken, water barely hot and the breakfast was gross. The clerk offered an "I'm sorry" but nothing to address my specific complaints or compensate me. I then answered the online survey (along with my negative comments) sent to me by Best Western, and received the usual form letter that it would help them to improve the future guest experience, blah, blah, blah. Again, I was offered no specific apologies or any compensation. The room rate was high considering the condition of this place. I am surprised that the Best Western franchise would allow this property to operate this way.

    5
    « A good value »

Despite the remodeling the hotel was very clean, staff very attentive to our needs. Hotel shuttle to AC/DC concert a perk we enjoyed. Front desk very professional checking in and out. We plan to stay there on our next trip to the Twin Cities

« horrible hotel during renovation »

this was the most disgusting hotel ever. Maybe it'll be nice after renovations but as of right now it should of closed its doors. Plus when I booked I wasn't made aware of this "renovation" no restaurant, bar, dingy, dirty, smelling rooms, elevators. No heat, no hot water, dirty windows (if I had a view, I wouldn't of been able to see it) Was promised $159 refund, didn't get it......

    3
« Nothing special, served its purpose. »

Imagine a hotel in a shopping mall next to a Sears and you are seeing this hotel. The quality of the hotel is average, like thousands of others. Except this one is under renovation, which based on other reports seems to be rather long-term. The construction is not a problem, just another brick in a boring wall. This hotel has no particular attraction, unless for some reason this location is where you want to be. The price was modest, but certainly not low. Better to stay 15 minutes either direction on the freeway and pay less.

    2
« I was walked here from the Doubletree »

They were full so they took me to this hotel. Luckily I only had to stay one night. I felt a little cramped with the narrow hallways and short ceilings. My room average size and I like the California King Size bed with plenty of room to stretch out. Both sides of the bed weren't equipped with electrical outlets which is inconvenient. I had to pull out my handy travel extension cord unplug the alarm clock. The bathroom had a shower with a tub, but it feels cramped. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless it was your last resort

    4
« Convenient location, clean rooms, attentive staff »

This was our 2nd stay at the Best Western Plus Capital Ridge. Last year we brought our pet lab and that was a nice convenience offered at this hotel for a reasonable cleaning up charge. This year, no pet, but another nice stay. We were not told that the hotel was under renovation when we booked. Not a huge deal, but no on-site restaurant, complimentary breakfast moved to some conference rooms, and just a little disorganization and construction mess to deal with. Staff have always been helpful and friendly. Added bonus of a shuttle to and from area attractions within a 3 mile radius. Rooms were clean. Rooms do not have the best noise insulation as we were awoken throughout the night from hall noise and even shower taken by neighboring guests. Overall, a good experience.

    4
    « Work trip »

The hotel is under renovation, so I hope to stay again when they are done to see the improvements. If you are from a rural (quited town) area, bring a fan. I94 is right next to the hotel, so the road noise is audible.

    « Good experience »

Close to the capitol. Have held several business events there. The rooms are nice. On site restaurant is good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location doesn't have a lot of good places to eat nearby but i had a good experience.

    « Staying for surgery »

I had surgery on the 18th and my husband was their staying as we live about 3 hours north. The shuttle drivers were so awesomely great and helpful for my husband as he is totally lost with out me. The front desk staff was so polite, helpful and understanding of our situation. We ended up staying another night that I did not book, but hey were able to help us out. Please thank everyone for their kindness and help. Peggy Wickham

    2
    « Don't Stay During Renovation »

The hotel is being renovated. They should close until services are at a minimal level. Staying in a construction zone is not fun. The room was out dated and needs improvement. The property was close to our business needs.

    5
« Nice quiet place to stay »

Clean, quiet and very comfortable. Even though Interstate 94 was just out side the hotel you didn't experience any road noise. The hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly. I would stay again as this hotel is close to a lot of the downtown attractions.

    4
    « Good news/Bad news »

GOOD news- our room was wonderful! Very nice, clean, great bed, sofa, quiet, hot water, it exceeded our needs!! BAD news- we chose this hotel because of its in-house bar/restaurant, but upon arrival discovered it was CLOSED due to construction. This was an awful disappointment for us, especially since there was nothing else even around within walking distance to go to instead. It would have been nice to know this in advance....GOOD news- there was a complimentary Continental Breakfast. BAD news- there wasn't much to it.

    « Minnesota Wild Weekend »

This is the third year in a row my son and I have come down to watch a Minnesota Wild hockey game. This is our first time at the Best Western Plus Capitol Ridge. Our stay was very good and would come back again. The staff was very pleasant and professional and made our stay more enjoyable.

    4
    « Good night »

It was a nice place to stay, but it would have been nice to know that it was under construction. The shuttle drivers were great guys and were willing to drive us anywhere and pick us up. The one driver was actually wearing a Santa hat and telling jokes the whole time. Pretty cool guy.

    5
« Great service and super comfy bed! »

The staff at the hotel were friendly and professional, rooms clean and access to tram and St Paul easy, as well as the shuttle bus service which we found useful too. The first night in the restraurant was good but we used it a second time and I think they were short on staff, as the same guy served and cooked and the food was cold! Other than that, a great experience.

    5
    « Very convenient »

Came for a Wild game on a Saturday night. Check-in was quick and easy, very friendly staff. They have a shuttle driver which will take you to and from the game which was awesome. Room was very clean and very quiet. Yes, a few things out of date in the room (shower curtain and room curtain) but they're going thru a renovation, I didn't let it bother me nor affect my review. I work at a hotel that went thru a reno 2 years ago, yes, it's a pain in the butt... But they gotta fix it up sometime, RIGHT?! I'd definitely stay here again if I'm ever in the area. I hope to come back and see the place after the renovations are complete! I'm sure it will be fabulous. Thanks to all staff!!

    5
« reasonable. clean and friendly »

staff is always friendly and helpful. hotel offers a special rate for hospital appointments/stays and a free shuttle to the hospital. made it so much easier on the family. pool is clean and bigger than most. restaurant is the only thing I would not recommend.

« Don't book until hotel is remodeled »

Entrance being remodeled. The lobby was unprofessional and seldom had a person at the desk. (They were behind the area). Staff required additional training. Rooms were VERY outdated. I've stayed there before and was told there would be improvements.

    5
« Great hotel in a convenient location »

My best friend and I stayed during WFTDA roller derby championships. The staff were outstanding and the shuttle drivers got us to and from the Roy in great time. They even ran later into the evending to make sure we ladies all made it back safely. We will book there again on our next visit.

    4
« Under construction but still worth a look »

Stayed 1 night recently while in town with 2 kids. Room was a bit worn but clean and quiet. Every staff member we interacted with was cheerful, welcoming and helpful. Truly nice people doing a very good job. Main entrance is completely dug up and closed so you have to enter from either end of the building. Hotel offered a discounted rate since we were going to Gillette Children's Specialty Clinic. We called the hotel directly to book it. We will use them again for our next Gillette overnight.

    2
    « 8:26 p..m. »

Construction all around the hotel itself so difficult (at night) to figure out how to get in. Many things not working properly: toilet, room was very cold, couldn't get the drapes to close completely, bedside lamp plugs kept popping out of the add-on wall socket. Pets allowed in every room --we have allergies, need smoke-free AND pet-free, got locked out of our room one night because our reservations got messed up The water was off in the whole hotel for five and one-half hours the morning after our arrival.

    5
« Great place to stay »

Great staff, very clean, shuttle service were all great. Undergoing a remodel at this time was a bit confusing when we arrived, but not a major drawback. Would definitely stay again, proximity to xcel energy center and light rail was a big plus, especially with the shuttle to xcel.

    1
    « Terrible experience »

Hotel was under construction. Crane was right outside our window. Very loud for 2 days. Room was not clean upon arrival. Due to construction.....water main broke and flooded our room while we were out. Maintenance came in and took all of the wet items and just threw them into the tub. Wet shoes, clothes, etc. We were never made aware of the problem until we called the front desk. Water was shut off for half a day. It was just problem after problem. Other guests were having the same issues. Hotel might be fine after construction but that will not be for a year. They did give us a break on the rate per nights that we stayed but for the problems we experience......really wasn't worth what we paid.

    4
    « Wild Times »

Great place to stay for Wild Games. Convenient shuttle service to and from the game. Per special request, dropped us off at an area restaurant for pre game cocktails and meal. Friendly driver, front desk and cleaning staff. Restaurant and bar conveniently located in lobby. My only wish would be if food was available later in the evening. We attended the Wild game and the restaurant was closed when we got back.

    « weekend wedding »

hotel and ammenities were great, even though going through some construction it was very clean and everything was still available. Shuttle/cab service was our only disappointment. Restaurant was clean, the food and service were great. We all would agree that the beds were some of the most comfortable we have ever slept on.

    4
« Very nice place to stay. »

Hotel was very clean, friendly staff, room was very clean and comfortable. Hotel located within walking distance of the History Center, Excel Energy Center, Science Museum and many other places in downtown St Paul. Appreciated the shuttle service from Excel Center back to the hotel after the Women of Faith Conference at night.

    « No breakfast! »

The hotel was very clean and in a very good location for our activity. It did not, however, offer breakfast included. For the price, we were very surprised! The expensive buffet breakfast in the adjoining restaurant was not worth the price!

    5
    « Great Value »

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western. The pool and hot tub, the shuttle driver were the best parts of the experience, but the overall value was great! They have fast Internet, nice people, comfy beds... A+

    5
« Good location and great service »

Location and accommodations were perfect for our purposes: College visits and Minnesota Wild Game. The staff was extremely helpful. The shuttle to the game was great as well. The rooms and beds were clean and comfortable. i would have liked to have a desk in the room, but I had declared the trip as "Leisure".

    4
« Great location... Plus a free shuttle »

Clean rooms, decent rates, and a free shuttle to xcel. Where else would you stay for an event? 10 minute walk to science museum, children's museum, and a bunch of great restaurants. Will be back. Restaurant and bar in hotel close a bit early during events. Only disappointment.

    2
« Would not stay here again. »

I would not stay here again. It was a great location, but the cleaniness of our room made it disgusting to stay here. The bathroom was full of black hair in the tub, sink and on the floor. I am not sure if the bathroom was cleaned other than to put out clean towels. THis was the only Best Western Plus that did not offer a free breakfast, at the price we paid for this hotel it was not worth it. We attended a concert and the location was great for that. THe hotel did provide a free shuttle that we did not have to use.

    2
    « Angry Staff »

Don't go to the bar/restaurant. The manager/owner of the bar is incompetent and let's his staff do whatever they want. I was verbally assaulted and had a drink thrown if my face. I didn't receive an apology, but rather watched his employee walk right up to the beer tap and proceed to pour herself another drink without paying or being reprimanded whatsoever. Quite frankly is is a dangerous place to have a drink.

    4
« Nice place to stay »

The room was clean, bed was very comfortable and the shuttle was a nice added plus to have. I would recommend this hotel and the location is easy to find. The only thing that happened was the waitress forgot my order but they got took care of it right away. Love the whirlpool. Very quiet and nice. Will stay there again for work if needed.

    4
« Please with only one complaint »

I was very pleased with my stay. Staff were VERY nice. Answered every question and very polite. Bed was very comfortable, lots of parking, pool and hot tub were nice, and food was pretty good at the restaurant. My only complaint was cleaning. For the most part our room was very nice, but I have three children under 6 years and I found stuff on the floor that I didn't want them in.

    2
« Dirty pool, breakfast is a joke, staff uninterested »

The pool, spa tub and the surrounding were dirty, floor green with moles. The breakfast which is not free is downright sad, literally we were serve a plate with 2 eggs and cold toasts, nothing else. no fruits on the side, no nothing... The staff is uninterested, they give you the feeling should have registered somewhere else and let them do whatever they were doing.
