    « Good Stopover »

This was our second visit to the Property, so we knew what to expect. On arrival, there is no assistance with luggage but I am sure that if you asked at Reception, they would magic somebody to help. The Room was much the same as the last one, with an upstairs sleeping area, accessed via slightly steep stairs. This did not appeal to me too much as it looked a bit hazardous visiting the bathroom on the lower level ! We requested a room change which was promptly done. The second room had a double bed on the lower level plus a further doble on the upper level. We did not use the Restaurant as we had our two dogs with us so we opted for room service. The food was excellent and promptly sent to the room. The bed was comfortable and in the morning we again had room service at a cost of €10.00 each. Not bad value but I could not raised much enthusiasm for the pot of apple mush which looked and tasted like baby food. With Breakfast done, we were soon on our way for the three and a half hour drive to Calais. As a general comment, when we stayed last time in the summer, the room was too hot because the Air Filter in the Air Conditioner was choked solid with dust so there was no cold airflow from the unit. This time, the room was too chilly for the same reason that Hot air could not flow out due to blocked filters. The Management should arrange to have the filters cleaned from time to time.

« Very nice and cozy »

When I first read reviews on Trip Advisor I didn't know what to expect as some people complained about few different things. We stayed for three days and I must say everything was perfect. Rooms are very spacious and clean with a nice views, nice lounge with a fireplace and very lovely and helpful staff. We had breakfast and dinner in the hotel's restaurant and food was so delicious, especially dinner. I must mention girl called Cécile who served us for dinner both times. She was amazing, very kind and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone who's in the area looking for a hotel.

« Not bad, but not convincing »

I used the hotel as a stopping place on my journey through France - and for that t was not the best place to chose. It's too far away from the A5 and the detour was not worth it. The hotel is situated in the beautiful setting of a national park. Certainly an asset. But if you're not playing Golf, you probably will not be able to truly enjoy it. You should only visit, if you do play Gold - and the you will probably have a marvellous time. The welcome upon arrival was first a bit hesitant, but then really good. The only really good point about this hotel. The lady took her time, was smiling - that's the way it should be. The room was large, also good. But you see and feel the age of everything. Everything OK, but not more. Do not try to change the settings of the air conditioning. It's explained, but it does not work properly. And even if you stop it, it doesn't. So, it's always rather noisy in the room. The bed was ok. The bathroom also a bit shabby and in my case not a 100 percent clean - don't want to see the hairs of the visitors before me in the bathtub. Rather unconvincing was the restaurant - for me at least. Unless you are huge meat eater you are lost here. No 21st Century kitchen with lots of vegetables or other vegetarian dishes. And what I did get, noodles with vegetables was, sadly, worse than if you had opened any kind of Buitoni ready to serve sauce. Breakfast was better - a huge buffet. albeit one that looked bigger than it actually was. No greetings here. You just sit down your breakfast business. There wer staff, but completely unaware for people around, as if guests did not exist. A bit spooky. A smile in the morning probably could do wonders here. Check-out was again OK, not that cheerful as upon arrival, but OK. All in all, a strange hotel in beautiful landscape. Would probably have much more potential.

« Great hotel if you can find it »

Stayed in this hotel en route to Switzerland by motorcycle. Lovely setting, nice relaxed atmosphere and good room. GPS didn't seem to know where it was but some hotel signs along the way helped us out. Good food and pleasant bar.

    « Halfway house »

This is a great hotel that we use at least twice each year on our journey from the UK to Switzerland or further afield. It's the perfect distance from the eurotunnel (approx 4 hours). The food in the restaurant in the evening is very good and the wine on offer is equally as good! If you book far enough in advance you can get it at a very reasonable price, having said that it's not overly expensive anyway!

« Nice quiet hotel, not too far from motorways »

We travelled with a disabled person and understood, when booking, that there were no disabled adapted rooms. As we were only staying one night so this was not a problem. We had a room with a second double bed on a mezzanine floor which suited our needs. The website offered an option to book dinner and we took this to indicate that the restaurant may get full. As we were going to arrive early evening, we thought this may be a good option. On arrival, the restaurant was almost full so booking was a good choice. We had no problems with the wheelchair.

« Extremely comfortable with excellent dinner and breakfast »

We wanted a half way stop over on our way to the French Alps and chose this hotel 2 years ago. We have stayed many times since. An oasis of calm away from the motorway traffic. They welcome dogs and the surrounding are is great for walking

« Nice and quiet hotel with good kitchen and acceptable infrastructure »

The hotel is situated almost in the middle of nowhere - a beautiful location in a forest. The restaurant has very good food for reasonable prices. The rooms are nice and airy but the bathroom is a bit dated (bath with shower curtain - didn't know it still existed). No shower caps available (at reception they didn't even understand what it was). The Spa is a bit expensive: 20 EUR entrance for 1 hour.

    « Beautiful Setting »

We used this as a luxury one night stop over after a two week camping holiday. The setting was beautiful and it was very quiet. The family room was large, comfortable and clean although a bit tired looking especially the bathroom. We used the restaurant which had a very limited menu and not great for vegetarians and it was very expensive. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The reception supply towels to use at the indoor heated pool and although we didn't use it, it did look nice.

« Should have been better »

When you drive through the extensive grounds you are expecting quite an experience, however the reality doesn't quite match that first impression. From rude bar staff, to someone else's dirty underwear found in our room (and an indifferent manager when we complained about that), a dirty terrace area, and an overpriced restaurant for what they serve, in all it wasn't a great experience. It's not all bad though. The family suite we had has its second bed on a second mezzanine level which the children loved. And we enjoyed great views over the amazing forest, with an owl hooting as our background soundtrack. In all I think if they just tried a bit harder, it could be quite a nice stopover point.

« One of the best »

One of the best that we had in our family vacation Easily can spent a whole week in that place Great for families Great service and price Children's dinner only for 3 Euro. For sure we will come again

« Beautiful drive from the autoroute to best stopover in the area »

Lovely location for a stopover just over 3 hours from Calais. Opportunity to walk by the lake to stretch our legs after the long drive from the south. We last stayed there 10 years ago- hadn't changed a bit and yes, the air con.was broken and very noisy. We hope to listen to classique musique radio but channel didn't work either. No wi Fi signal so tune in radio wasn't an option ....... However, staff were excellent even though they couldn't resolve our problems. Dinner in the restaurant was very good and fairly priced for a hotel chain. Room was clean and bed was comfortable . What else would one expect from Best Western? Not our favourite chain but will undoubtedly use it again.

« Beautiful setting, hotel a little dated but staff excellent »

Stayed for one night in this hotel, en route to Calais. A little of the beaten track, this property is set in the most stunning countryside, with forests and lakes and small picturesque villages. Our room, a junior suite, was spotlessly clean with a large bed on a mezzanine above a sitting area, with a full bathroom with separate toilet. The decor was a little dated, but to be fair, there is a pool, a golf case and stunning surroundings, so you wouldn't be spending much time in there is you were staying longer. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant on the evening. After looking at the menu, there was very little we liked to eat, the menu was mostly fish, but the lunchtime menu had a couple of choices, so we asked the staff if we could have something from there, and they happily agreed. The breakfast was very extensive, with both cooked and continental choices with a variety of juices A lovely hotel, in stunning surroundings, I would recommend this to anyone for a short break.

    « Adequate Pit-Stop »

(27/07/16) Troyes or rather Rouilly Sacey was the first stop on our tour of France & after a recommendation we booked this Best Western. In all honesty we arrived rather late & we were off early the next day and being a Best Western we knew not to expect too much. It was exactly that, nothing flashy, nothing out of the ordinary, which was a shame really considering the beautiful area it's situated in. We managed to book a table in the restaurant, the menu was good and had plenty of options. I thought a steak would be a good start to the holiday however it didn't deliver. The food was far too expensive for the quality. The staff on the other hand were cheerful and attentive and spoke very good English. The rooms were standard, nice and spacious but again nothing special. It was a very warm night and even though the air-con was buzzing away it never actually cooled the room down and was clearly broken. So it was hot, too hot. After explaining this the next day to the reception, no real interest was shown. So as far as quick stops go, it was fine and other than the food not overly expensive. For the room & dinner it came to around €200 for two of us. I just feel that the place could do with a bit of love & the edges tidied up.

    « Good stopover en-route to Calais »

Driving back to the UK from the South of France and needed somewhere to stay overnight to break the journey up. Booked the Best Western Hôtel Golf et Spa de la Forêt d'Orient, as it was just about the perfect location for my stopover. I needed a room for 3 plus allowed a dog. We had a lovely duplex room on the 3rd floor. Spacious, with two double beds, one on the mezzanine level. I was a bit disappointed about the cleanliness of the room, particularly dirty around the window at flor level. Although everything else was pretty clean. We ate at the restaurant in the evening and it was really good. The food was excellent and great service. Breakfast was a nice buffet. All in all a good stopover for us but I'm not sure I would stay here for any length of time.

« Excellent hotel. Average restaurant. »

Excellent hotel to visit. It's only about 10miles off the motorway and easy to find. Very relaxing from the moment you arrive! The place is beautiful. The golf course looks good. The pool is out doors and covered so best of both worlds!! Sun loungers. Nice terrace and bar. We had a family room which was fab - three beds on the entrance floor and then a double bed up some stairs. TVs in both parts of the room. Comfortable beds. Wifi. Tea & coffee facilities. Reasonably priced for a family room too. The down side is the restaurant. The food choice for us wasn't great - although they have lots of local foods, there wasn't vegetarian or plain food. Also we weren't impressed with the quality of food. Having said that, the staff were happy to try to accommodate us, for example we asked for plain chicken which wasn't on the menu, they did it and presented it beautifully. Sadly the chicken had to go back to be cooked more and it was chewy! We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. So in our opinion - come here for the hotel/spa/golf and accommodation but check the menu before you book in to the restaurant. As a stop over, it was excellent.

« Great family room, poor restaurant »

The family room was rated as 'brilliant' by my daughter! We loved it too and the hotel staff were friendly - their service was good. The pool was good too. Sadly, the restaurant was very poor - the food was not good and expensive, and the service was very slow. Breakfast was delicious though, so a good end to our stay!

« Anti British bar staff »

We loved everything about the hotel with the exception of one of the bar staff. He was decidedly anti British - my partner overheard him making negative comments about English people thinking he would not understand what he was saying. His hostile attitude ruined our stay & cut it short as we would have stayed an extra night due to the extremely hot weather. Would not recommend to British guests.

    « Relaxing ,calm setting »

From walking through the door to reception to booking out the experience was efficient and in no way off putting. On the contrary, this was a very clean hotel, with excellent air conditioned rooms. The staff were friendly , food of high quality ( I had dinner and breakfast) served quickly. This is the second time I have stayed here and would stay again

« Comfortable room, lovely surroundings »

As with many others, we stopped on our way home from South to North. The room was lovely and very comfortable beds. We took our dog for a walk near the lac d'Orient, which she and we loved. The service in the restaurant was very slow, which didn't bother us but it was hard for some of the families in the restaurant. They also seemed very rigid about us drinking an aperitif in the bar, being able to look at the menu in the bar, but not being able to order the meal in the bar. We ordered Campari and soda, our French is very good, but they did not seem to know of this combination. The meal was very good, apart from my starter - tartine d'aubergine et fromage - which only tasted of the cheese. Dessert - a soufflé glacé - was delicious. Breakfast was good. Sadly they lost our ice blocks for the cold box overnight but they did give us a bag of ice cubes instead. Our first bedroom smelled of cigarette smoke but we were moved to another without any hassle. The only reason I have not given this hotel a higher rating was that it was quite expensive, a four star hotel, and so I had great expectations.

    « A really good stopover »

We were looking for somewhere in the Troyes area for a stop off heading north and south. This has lived up to its reviews. Off the main routes but on a route that links the A26 and the A5. Very friendly staff who speak English, good sized clean rooms, a quiet forest location and a very good restaurant. We recommend it, and will return.

« Good value for money in quiet location »

We have stayed here several times as a stop-over, but on this occasion booked a suite, at very reasonable rates for 3 nights. Rooms are a good size, particularly the mezzanine with separate sitting room. We had dinner on one night, which was excellent and good value for money. On another evening we just had a snack in the bar; also good. We didnt do breakfast, just bought fruit (Piney market) which we kept in the fridge in our room. For lunch we liked "Tout Simplement" by the Tourist office in Troyes. We walked in the forests and lakes, swam on the pool, and visited Troyes, Piney and Aix-en-Othes on market day. Only criticism was too few tiny towels and wifi rather random.

« Excellent and close to Nigloland. »

20kms to the best theme-park we have ever been to in France!! The only down side was the food was a bit too posh, we drove to Mc Donalds for the kids which was fine. The pool was more of a summer time affair, not a particularly nice one hence the lower rating. We had a family room looking over the car park and this room had an upstairs and downstairs. It seems to be more of a golf/conferency hotel.

    « Good stop over »

Family rooms are excellent with mezzanine floor with large double bed. Walls are not the thickest, so noisy neighbours can be heard. Pool is ok, but nothing special. Always seems to be busy with families using the hotel as a convenient stop over going North/South. Restaurant often fully booked - so book in advance. Food was good apart from a 30 minute wait for the 15 minute soufflé.

« Half way to the Alps »

So if you are prepared to take a diversion from the motorway (about 16 miles), and you should, this is the hotel to stay at for a stop halfway between Calais and the Alps. It is surrounded by great countryside for walking and cycling. There is a lake with a beach nearby, cycle paths etc... Whilst it is primarily a golfing hotel this is also great for an overnight stay too.

« Stopover in the countryside »

Like many reviewers I also chose this hotel to break a long driving journey, it is in the middle of a forest with nothing nearby but the rates are quite good and there is a swimming pool. The room was large and comfortable. However the swimming pool did not seem very clean, it was barely lit and the water was quite cold. It would be better for a summer stay.

« Good room. Poor food. »

This place is somewhat isolated with the nearest town being 3-4 kilometers away so you are reliant on having all at hand including food, which it has. The room was large and well appointed with all we required and plenty of space. Good sized en-suite and separate loo. Wifi worked well as did all the room amenities. Large comfortable bed. Food however was disappointing. In particular there was no muesli at breakfast and the so called scrambled eggs were very under-cooked, almost runny. There was also very little room around the (busy) breakfast buffet so it all felt like a bit of a struggle. Not sure if it was related but I did end up with a dose of gastro-enteritis within 24 hours of leaving here.

    « A good hotel for a short stay »

We had two overnight stops here on our tour of Europe, one on the way & one on our return. We had clean, comfortable rooms, with fridge & tea making facilities. There is an outdoor pool & a place to eat lunch & have drinks outside. We had an evening meal, which was enjoyable but didn't the second night. Instead we decided to explore the lovely city of Troyes & eat there. It is a mixture of modern & Medieval buildings, with many places to eat & drink & would definitely recommend doing that. The hotel is quite isolated, with nothing else around it. We found the breakfast was ok but expensive. We would also recommend filling up with petrol on the A26 if travelling that way as there are no petrol stations & we had to go to Troyes to get petrol.

    « Perfect setting »

In August, myself, husband daughter, son- in - law and the 2 grandchildren were on our way to Les Get and after driving about 5hours stopped overnight at this hotel. It was very hot when we arrived, and after a quick check- in went to our rooms to get freshened up. The rooms were really nice, with the bedroom up stairs, modern and air conditioned. From the window you could see the surrounding golf course, which was lovely. When we went outside, not only was the scenery really nice but it was very peaceful, with enjoyable walks on your doorstep! There is a lovely pool, half under cover and half in the sun, so satisfying everybody.Sun loungers on the grass suited us fine after our long drive, some of us nodding off!!!As our French was not too good it was a bit of a worry, but we muddled through and the staff were very pleasant and tried their best to understand.( we left the ordering to our daughter who was more proficient !)The dining room was well set out and the food was delicious. We would recommend stopping off here if your travelling in France,it is far from the maddening crowds and very relaxing.

« Staff that really can't be bothered are a disappointment »

I stayed in this hotel twice, both on the way down through France towards our holiday destination in the Ardeche and on the way back. I wasn't particularly impressed with the place during the first stay; we were a family of four with two teenagers of 13 and 16 and two dogs. Nobody had warned us to book for dinner when we made the reservation and so it was very disappointing to find, when we arrived, tired and hungry, at 5.30 pm, that the hotel restaurant was completely full. They agreed to send us food in the rooms - though finding the correct number to call from the room is tricky as there is no indication anywhere that I could find on either leg of the trip. But much worse was their grasping attitude to what we ordered. The two adults in our party didn't feel up to the rather rich, typically French food on offer, and we asked if we could have the plain chicken. Unfortunately this happened to be on the kids' part of the menu and we were told that we were not allowed to have this because we didn't have a child under 12 in our party! I have honestly never been in a hotel that behaves in such a way. We assumed they thought we were being cheap - but we literally just wanted something simple and not adorned with a rich sauce. In the end, they agreed to serve us chicken but we had to order some other things with it, and it wasn't at the price on the menu any more, not that that had ever been our point. After this, nothing really was going to make a very good impression. I found the rooms a good size but poorly furnished, with bad pillows on the bed (luckily I often travel with my own when driving on holiday). The air conditioning was very noisy, as was the fan in the bathroom - I thought there was a pneumatic drill above the room until I realised where it was coming from! So that left a very poor impression; but the hotel was conveniently situated and took dogs (I took my two on holiday with me), and I knew how to find it, which, as I was driving back alone with my 13-year-old, was a big point in its favour. So we decided to stay again. This time, I had phoned ahead to book a table in the restaurant for myself and my son. But guess what? When we arrived, we found there was no booking in our name at all, despite the woman on the phone saying she was completely clear about our arrival date and our desired time. We thought we were lucky this time when they found us a table, even though it was half an hour later than we had booked for....But when we went for dinner, we were served by a waitress who was rude, surly and patronising, particularly about my lack of the correct vocabulary for how we wanted our meat cooked (my French is excellent, as I lived there for ten years, but I was a vegetarian for most of that time!) The meal was really spoiled by her attitude. I also found that when I tried to order a drink from the bar to be brought up to the room - having finally found the right number to call - the bar staff couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone. I tried again and again, but no answer: so I eventually resorted to ringing reception, which is right nearby. They told me I would have to descend in person to get the drink. When I did, I found two staff on duty at the bar all along, so quite why they could not at least pick up the phone and explain they were too busy to bring a drink to the room, I do not know. When I thought about all these incidences together, I did feel that this was not a good place to have stayed - although the surroundings are lovely and the dogs did enjoy a walk in the adjacent forest first thing in the morning. But when I stay in a hotel, I want to feel that the staff have my interests at heart and want to look after me well and that is not how this hotel left me feeling at all.

« Good Stop over but the Air Conditioning needs a service ! »

We booked a family suite on line via Booking .com and I was a little worried about what the room would be like for £95.00. I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised and whilst the room was nothing to rave about, it was more than adequate for our requirements. The room had a high level sleeping area with TV etc which was reached via a slightly rickety wooden staircase. The lower suite are was a fair size with a bathroom and separate wc. The shower was above the bath with the obligatory plastic shower curtain. We arrived at the hotel late in the afternoon and found the room the room uncomfortably hot. I turned the Air Conditioning system system on, at the wall mounted remote controller and the system sprang into life. The actual Air Conditioner is inset into the ceiling of the high level sleeping area, and whilst it was making whirring noises, there was no airflow from the outlet grille. (An earlier trip advisor reviewer also mentioned that they also found the Air Conditioning feeble) I suspected that the Air filter could be blocked so I removed the inlet grille and low and behold, the Air filter was blocked solid with years of dust and dirt (see photo) I removed the filter and immediatley there was a strong airlow from the unit and the room temperature quickly reduced. I guess that every air filter in every room plus the filters in the units in public areas all need cleaning. When we left, i explained the problem to the Management who said they would investigate. It would be interesting to learn from future guests if the efficiency of the Air Conditioning improves which will show that the Management did arrange to have the units cleaned and serviced. Our experience in the restaurant was very good and the staff were pleasant and friendly. We had no complaints about the food or pricing. The breakfast was also pretty good and the children ate at no charge. I was a little dissappointed to note that the Mini Bar in the room was totally empty but there was a vending machine adjacent to the lifts where one coud buy soft drinks.

« Nice stop on way back from South of France »

Stopped here on the way back from the South of France on route to Calais. Impressively in the middle of nowhere and a gorgeous setting. The receptionist was well-friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was well-gorgeous. The children were very happy with the staircase in the room that took them up to another king-size bed and tv. The views are very nice - especially if you like golf!! The staff in the bar were no so accommodating - it felt like we were in their way when we ordered. The restaurant was quite accommodating in making something off the menu (another French restaurant not understanding that vegetarian means no animal even when it is a fish!!). Expensive for what it was, and again the staff seemed put-out to have to serve and do their job. Food was quite nice though. When we'd put the kids down we went for a swift beer. This was about 22:50 and the barman even asked his manager if he could serve us!! When he'd 'grumpily' served us he then turned all the bar lights off and promptly closed the bar. (I was so tempted to order anther drink just to annoy him!!). Breakfast was nice and certainly filled us for the trip to Calais. I would stay here again even if it was to just annoy the bar staff!!!

    « Excellent Hotel »

My family & I stayed in this hotel in July for 2 nights on our way to the Southern region. We had a family suite which was very reasonably priced and the kids loved it. The hotel restaurant was excellent, staff very pleasant with good facilities. Breakfast was an extra charge, a bit over priced, but there was a very good choice. Hotel is not really near any other restaurants so limited choice in the area, but the restaurant, food and staff were very good and well priced. No complaints at all

« Good hotel with friendly staff »

I stayed at this hotel with my family in August 3,2015, while visiting Troyes and the Champagne region. Lovely surroundings with pool and area to relax. Family room was spacious with mezzanine and two double beds. The only negative is the decor and furniture are a little dated.

    « Staff with attitude »

There is a general attitude problem with staff (excluding restaurant staff) at this hotel which management need to sort out. Nice location but would we stay there again, probably not. We were not really made to feel welcome except in the restaurant.

    « 3rd visit in 5 years »

our 3 night stay was very pleasant. Hotel in good condition and room to the front quiet. Staff were friendly. restaurant food was good and odd items from the menu could be chosen to suit appetite. Don;t know how often they change menu? Rather less bird guano in evidence on this visit! Pool very pleasant as the weather was in the 30's. Our only complaint was that the A/C in the room was rather feeble.

« Relax in the country »

Stayed at this hotel as part of a bike tour through Europe and this was our first stop. The location is within striking distance of the motorway but feels like it is kilometers from anywhere. Very peaceful quiet location in beautiful countryside. Rooms are large. Parking is plentiful, secure and free. Staff were very friendly. Evening meal was lovely and breakfast was very good. Didn't have the chance to avail of the pool or other facilities as we just had an overnight stop. Would use this hotel again.

    « Good family-friendly hotel »

Returned after last year for a relaxing overnight stop en route between UK and Chamonix. Worth a couple of nights - our grand-daughter aged 5 loved the pool and other children's facilities (e.g. a lego table in the lounge). Excellent breakfast and very good evening meal. Rooms comfortable and well appointed. Quiet location in a beautiful area, and accessible to A26 autoroute. Would be a good centre for a short holiday

    « a "very " best western »

always enjoy our single night stays here -but would like to stay longer.Very rural and peaceful environment--conferences aside-bonne ambiance. Not easy to access but worth the effort--a car is necessary

    « A superb hotel »

A quiet 4 star hotel slightly off the beaten track with excellent accommodation and friendly staff. Don't forget to take your swimming costume and try and find time to visit the lovely city of Troyes which is about a 15 minute drive away..

    « Pleasant stay »

All amenities were efficient and to standard, couldn't get the room as cool as I would have liked at night as the air con blew warmish air. The location was very relaxing, the golf course was obviously well used by guests. Nicely situated for Troyes and also exploring the champagne area.

« overnight back to UK from Alps »

Pleasant hotel in a good location in the national park. A little remote from the route home but worth the detour. Restaurant a bit limited for fussy kids but the drive into Troyes was worth it . Grounds were great for walking the dog. The room (suite) was very comfortable with lots of space. Beds very good although both were doubles and Teenage boys had to share one. WiFi was poor. Good Air-Con if a little noisy.
