"Excellent hôtel service, breakfast and pool"
davidmA3534KE, 03 Janvier 2024

The staff is very professional and kind. Great breakfast experience, the fitness facility is nice and the pool very warm and sophisticated. Excellent for relaxing after a day visiting Riquewihr. Saunas and Hammam are excellent too. One little disappointment the restaurant was fully booked, you should book in advance.

"Lovely hotel set just outside the walls of Riquewihr"
Smileysonia, 12 Octobre 2023

We stayed her for one night as part of our tour through France, and unfortunately arrived too late to enjoy the Spa facilities on offer. We had a lovely room and separate spa towels, robes and slippers were provided in a tub, but sadly were unused. Room was of a good size, bed comfortable with plush pillows. Nice powerful enough shower. Self service breakfast offered a good array of choices. Car parking available in a separate area with a barrier. Location was close enough to leave car the next day so we could walk in to Riquewihr to enjoy the amazing scenery. It is like stepping back in time into a fairytale kingdom. We enjoyed a tour in the train around the vineyards. We then stayed for lunch and had an amazing Tarte Flambé- a speciality of the area.

"Excellent Location"
Gailyn63, 02 Septembre 2023

Great hotel within walking distance of Riquewihr. They have an outside pool, a heated inside pool, a sauna and a fitness room. The rooms were spacious, with great pillows. The restaurant is excellent as well.

"Friendly hotel - very relaxing"
OJ20002023, 23 Août 2023

Positive: We stayed for 3 nights and liked the well-maintained facilities. Breakfast was excellent. Friendly staff and positive atmosphere. Unfortunately, the restaurant was already booked at the day we arrived. Although there are many options in town, we were a bit exhausted to search a spot for dinner. Suggestion: Please consider installing charging options for electrical cars in the parking lot.

"Great Location. Great Customer Service."
Julia M, 19 Août 2023

This is my 4th year staying here in August. Firstly, the Hotel location, location location is excellent. The hotel is comfortable, clean and has great service. The Hotels Management go above and beyond as demonstrated in 2022 when they came to the rescue and saved the day for 5 visiting Ladies - enough said. The Hotels leisure facilities are perfect and the Spa treatments a must experience.

"Two nights in a medieval town in Alsace"
350biker, 05 Août 2023

Easy to find just outside the walls of this medieval town. Dedicated parking for disabled clients with easy ramp acces to the main entrance. Excellent welcome by efficient reception staff. Indeed all the staff we met during our stay were very friendly and efficient. The room was in our eyes quite expensive (but the cost did include breakfast) and small but was well designed and equiped. Food was excellent with good explanations from the staff in the restaurant. Hotel has both indoor and outdoor pools with bath robes and slippers provided. Our room overlooked the outdoor pool and the vines on the local hillside. It was very quiet. It is highly likley we will use this hotel again in the future.

"Fairy tale setting"
Elizinishargy, 18 Juillet 2023

Really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Welcoming and bright foyer. Pleasant staff, we loved the pool area. Breakfast was good. Perhaps omelettes would be a nice addition. Our room for a family of 4 was well laid out with 2 slightly separate bedroom areas. As we stayed for a week, we could've done with some drawers to unpack. Riquewihr is picture perfect. The hotel is right beside the arched entrance under the town hall, so location is excellent. It does become quieter at night. We were lucky to enjoy the local festivities on July 13th. When staying in the town on Sundays and Mondays some restaurants are closed,so you need to prebook or eat earlier. Would definitely recommend this hotel. We felt we were staying in the best hotel that Riquewihr and the surrounding area had to offer.

"Great location to explore the wine route in Alsace"
Michelle C, 13 Juillet 2023

The view from our suite was right next to the vineyards! Breakfast was good and the pool was so nice and relaxing. We could walk to the town of Riqueweir to eat dinner and explore. Great location for touring the wine route which we did for 4 days.

"Excellent hotel and staff"
peruccam2023, 25 Juin 2023

My first time stay in town was at this hotel. It came from a recommendation from a friend, and it did not disappoint. The staff was helpful and professional interacting with guests. The restaurant had excellent service and food/drink offerings. A calming environment to relax and enjoy the region while on holiday.

"Just the nicest people in a great spot"
flebet, 19 Juin 2023

Once again we stopped in Alsace, going from the South of France, and back to Denmark, and once again we staied with the super nice people at Le Schoenenbourg. We brought our new dog with us, and as always, they had everything set up for us, as well as for the dog. The staff are all super nice, helpfull and smiling. It was not the first time, and for sure not the last time staying there

"Nestled in wine country"
SandraS101, 21 Mai 2023

A lovely hotel located just five minutes from the historic walled town of Riquewihr. The rooms are comfortable and offer views of the surrounding vineyards, and the restaurant offers delicious food options.

"wonderful start to Christmas "
doncasterstu, 05 Décembre 2022

exceptional location and very very well equipped breakfast was excellent and would definitely stay again . Good car parking and very friendly staff. we visited for the Christmas market and it was beautiful. the hotel is very handy to visit nearby towns as well. would thoroughly recommend

"Nice hotel in Riquewihr"
Dreamer402874, 17 Octobre 2022

Nice hotel on the edge of town. Decent breakfast, good bathroom. Complicated elevator situation, advertises air conditioning but not available in October. Friendly front desk staff. Outside of main town means free parking, which is a plus,

"Good hotel."
Celia G, 09 Octobre 2022

Everything about this hotel was good and adequate. Nothing was exceptional. Some staff were lovely, yet others were ruder and less polite. I can't fault the comfortable rooms, and yet I won't remember the place fondly. Riquewihr is super cute and the area is attractive.

"Family stayed 4 nights"
469h_l_ned, 29 Juin 2022

We were warmly welcomed by an helpful staff. The rooms are modern and comfortable. The kids loved the indoor and the outdoor swimming pools ! The dinner was excellent. High quality standard and "Alsacien" style

"Remarkable service, a hotel in a prime location"
AlterSchwede13, 26 Juin 2022

The location of the hotel is excellent. The parking situation is very good. The staff is very friendly and competent, multilingual. The breakfast is surprisingly good, the Alsatian specialities are worth mentioning, but also the sustainable presentation of cereals, fruits, yoghurts. Also worth mentioning is the 12m long outdoor pool in a very beautiful location.

"A wonderfully positioned property."
Frank B, 18 Juin 2022

This is a wonderfully positioned property with excellent customer service! Catherine, at the front desk, was exceptionally helpful with all our requests! I can definitely recommend this very comfortable property to anyone visiting the beautiful wine villages of Provence!

"Don't miss out on experiencing this hotel"
ReduTom, 05 Juin 2022

The following words sum up what I think about this hotel:- quality, friendliness, professional, helpful, clean, efficient comfortable. One of the best hotels I've had the pleasure of staying at in France. You would be crazy to miss out on experiencing this hotel if you are in the Alsace.

"Lovely."
MarkT22, 27 Avril 2022

We splashed out another 30 on a suite which was worth it. Located at the back facing the vineyards it was lovely and quiet with a nice big bed and plenty floor space. Staff were very friendly and professional. The bar was quite lively but we didn't eat dinner at the hotel. The continental buffet breakfast was self service and very well stocked.

"Nice weekend"
sauber93, 08 Novembre 2021

Ok clean room, nice spa perferct for a weekend Diner at evening dicussfull. You have to drive 15 min to colmar because restaurants close at 20hr. You a lot of choices of restaurants in colmar But in the end it was nice weekend

"Excellent hotel, excellent staff, perfect location"
Rebecca R, 18 Septembre 2021

The hotel has a 3 star rating, so we were not expecting 5 star service. It is a stones throw from Riquewihr which made dining out, then walking back to the hotel, really easy. We enjoyed pre dinner drinks on the terrace overlooking the valley. Our room was at the back of the hotel, overlooking the vineyards. The room was small (we knew that when we booked it) but perfectly adequate for our needs, extremely clean, modern, very quiet and very comfortable. The weather allowed us to enjoy the outside pool (mid September). The spa facilities, with sauna, hammam and quiet room, and the small indoor pool, were enjoyable. The breakfast buffet had all one needs for breakfast from a buffet, with plenty of room to move around, and designated tongs on each table to help yourself to food. The staff could not have been more helpful. Excellent stay!

"Stopover in Riquewhir"
johanwouters98, 08 Août 2021

A very nice hotel, with friendly staff. At walking distance from the picturesque town centre. Convenient parking lot and dinner facilities. In and outside swimming pool give a lot of options. Good advice about local wines to accompany the meal.

"Average stay, breakfast is 14 euro extra pr person"
Magnus D, 22 Août 2020

WARNING: Breakfast cost 14 euros pr. person which we where NOT informed about beforehand. Its not worth it – it is a pretty simple breakfast only with bread and pastry (no eggs/bacon or the like). Go eat in the town instead for the same money. That being said, they handled the situation about corona very well. Pros: Nice parking possibilities (in the shadow if you are lucky) and nice location. Nice bed. Nice room with proper working AC. We where allowed to park and use the pool before check in. Cons: Not enough sun beds by the pool (too crowded). You are not allowed to bring drinks to the pool. Bar tender doesn't know what a “Espresso Martini” is and don't understand the word “two”.

"Excellent hotel"
saraWiltshire, 07 Août 2020

We stayed here for three nights. We were very impressed with all aspects of the hotel and felt very safe with its Covid responses. Hand sanitiser was everywhere and mask wearing was enforced. The breakfast buffet was very well managed and all the communal areas were scrupulously clean. The location is excellent; just minutes from the beautiful old town and the free, easy parking is an absolute bonus as parking is very expensive in Riquewhir. Our room was small but well equipped and it was extremely quiet so we slept really well. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice and the bar was well run. Pierre was especially kind and helpful. We only used the outdoor pool but we used it a lot! It was slightly chilly but good for swimming and it is large compared with most hotel pools. It was lovely to relax around the pool after doing a long walk. There is an abundance of great walking in the area. Thoroughly recommended!

"Peaceful location close to Riquewihr "
nik01Aberdeen, 25 Juillet 2020

Nice hotel within very easy walking distance to the centre of Riquewihr, would definitely recommend a deluxe room as we had a great balcony overlooking the vineyard, very large room which was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was very well organised in the current covid times. Nice bar where you can sit outside to relax with a drink. Staff were all very friendly & helpful. Secure free parking was also an added bonus.

"Nice hotel with pools, very well located"
PeterHongKong, 08 Juin 2020

This is a nice hotel, although some parts could benefit from a refurbishing (corridors, rooms). However, the views are nice, overlooking the grapeyards, it is very conveniently located (and grants you free parking in Riquewihr, real asset...) as you can visit the old by foot from there. Two pools, a small but modern one indoor, and a larger one outdoor, very enjoyable in August! You will just have to bear with the drunk tourists back from their wine-tasting day, but that the case in most Alsacian touristy places...

"Modern lobby/facilities, dated rooms"
Ahorn35, 26 Décembre 2019

Beautiful hotel in an even more beautiful location. The lobby was modern and the spa facility was beautiful; but the rooms themselves were dated. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was decent, and parking was free.

"Popular hotel"
117nickd, 20 Septembre 2019

This was a long weekend visit and a bit of a wine buying trip. The hotel has a slightly confusing car park location as there is a no turning right sign exactly where you need to turn right. The key of course is to see the ‘except for access' wording! Once in the car seemed of good size and the hotel upon entry towards reception looks modern. Checked in ok and off to the lift with bags as we were on the second floor. The lift is tiny, good for 2 people only so the stairs are a better option when not burdened with luggage. We had a front facing room looking towards the outside pool and there were no problems with it. The location is approx 200 yards to the entrance of the ancient cobbled town streets so basically perfect. Breakfast was ok with a fair selection of foods and there was a lovely terrace which not many people seemed to use. All in all it was a pleasant visit

"Wine country"
Adventurer819239, 18 Septembre 2019

“Superior” is the word they use here for the musty dinghy room we ended up spending our last night in. There was no arguing with the management either. We have stayed in a “Superior” room previously, so we knew what we should expect. Their only answer was that “We are completely full “. Unfortunately we had nowhere else to go . Spent a very uncomfortable night and can't wait to get home to wash and air all my clothes out from the musty smell . Any roadside truck stop would have offered a nicer accommodation. Certainly not the fondest memory of this trip

"My favorite hotel on the wine route"
PhilipfromVA33, 13 Septembre 2019

Excellent location surrounded by vineyards. Charming, comfortable, atmosphere inside and out. Absolutely lovely! Walking distance to old town center and winery for wine-tasting. Comfortable and clean rooms. Love the new SPA area that was recently added and the remodeled lobby and bar. Friendly, helpful staff. Last but not least in Riquewihr, plenty of free parking.

"Good hotel, good location"
WorldTraveller1313, 13 Septembre 2019

I stayed here recently for 1 night. The hotel is in a good location, only a few minutes walk from the old town. The rooms are a bit small but big enough, and well equipped, but there is a little noise from the floor above although otherwise quiet. There's a good range of breakfast options, but this costs an extra 14 euros.

"The best location to stay in Riquewihr!"
ryansandes, 13 Septembre 2019

This hotel is located just outside the town walls but this is an asset because it is a very quiet location with vineyards on three sides. The hotel is very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed here for 3 nights in early september & were given a huge suite consisting of a foyer with closets and counters, living room,a large bedroom with lots of drawers and shelves, a lovely big bathroom with a sink, a walk-in shower and a tub for two and a separate room with toilet and sink. There was a mini-bar fridge, coffee & tea supplies, hair dryer, toiletries and, best of all, his-and-hers terrycloth robes. Bed & pillows very comfortable. There was a breakfast buffet included which had cereals, yogurt, meat, cheese, fruits, all sorts of fresh breads and rolls as well as plenty of excellent coffee. Upon request, they would bring a soft-boiled egg as well. The location at Riquewihr was a good one for exploring the area by car. It is very close to Colmar and we had no trouble finding our way around the area each day and then coming back to this peaceful spot where we could have a good dinner in one of the many restaurants of the town and enjoy a walk in the very small scenic town or on the vineyard walking path. We would certainly stay there again and highly recommend this place.

"Too terrible to be true!"
Ivanvm79, 10 Septembre 2019

I had booked the room for 2 people in Best Western Hotel & spa le Schoenenbourg 14 to 16 August. We came with a kid of 8 years old. The staff told us we couldn't stay in the room with the kid because it was small size (only for 2 people). Then we asked if we could pay extra for the kid. They refused. We asked for another room. They refused. And they also said that we couldn't cancel our booking. So we were not able to stay together with our kid and were not able to cancel our booking. The staff were arrogant and unfriendly! The manager (he even did not tell us his name) forced us to sign a paper that we are informed that we cannot stay together in one room. The only thing he cared about was his personal safety and not clients with the child! He did nothing to solve the situation. He told us he didn't want to take responsibility if anything... We asked a receptionist if it was possible to change the room the next day she said yes. Due to hot season almost all hotels (family rooms) in Riquewihr were booked. I found the small hotel on the other side of the village and stayed there for one night. My wife and daughter stayed here. Next day the staff changed the room but to our suprise the new room was the same size and even without balcony which the first one had... Unfortunately we had to stay here for one more night!

"Ideal location on the edge of town"
BellaGlasgowScotland, 04 Septembre 2019

Stayed here for for 4 nights as part of a European Road Trip. This was the most modern of the hotels we stayed in so while it may have lacked the character of older properties the amenities were excellent. Our room was well equiped with a separate toilet and shower-room. We did not have a balcony however these were available. The hotel had an indoor spa with a small pool and an outdoor pool which was a good size with plenty of sunbeds and parasols. We did not eat in the hotel as we thought breakfast was quite expensive however within minutes you could walk to the centre of the town where there were options if you just wanted a coffee and croissant. We found both reception and bar staff to be friendly and helpful.

"Zu Empfehlen!"
jesusmL1330NC, 10 Août 2019

We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Both swimmingpools are wonderful. The breakfastbuffet is really nice and not expensive. Enough parking places. The location ist great, not noisy and still just steps to the old city. I can totally recommend it!

"Two night stop-over"
L3000CJdaniels, 07 Août 2019

Stayed two nights during a roadtrip, beautiful village with great restaurants. The hotel is well worth the additional cost. I can really recommend the room with 5 beds, great for a family. A nice quiet pool was great during the hot summer. The breakfast was excellent and you can eat it outside on a lagre balcony.

"Lovely hotel"
HayleyP286, 03 Août 2019

We stayed here for a week exploring the Alsace in July. We booked a deluxe room with a balcony and it didn't disappoint! The room was huge which was great as we had motorbike gear to stow and had a decent sized bathroom. The balcony was an added extra overlooking the town and vineyards. We booked the underground car park but didn't need it as there was covered parking available outside for the motorbikes. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. My only niggle would be that there is no laundry service but we hand washed clothes and they dried in no time on the balcony. Irons and ironing boards were available from reception so we managed to leave with clean clothes. We used the pool and spa facilities which were both excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

"Modern comfort in a beautiful historic location"
travelswithmydarling, 28 Juillet 2019

Lovely hotel situated at the bottom of the Schoenenbourg vineyard, very clean, spacious and quiet. Delicious breakfast, very good choice. Staff were very helpful. Two swimming pools, indoor and outdoor, ample car parking. Fantastic base for walking into Riquewihr village, or, sit on the terrace with a glass delicious Alsatian wine, and watch the storks fly by.

"For location, facilities and breakfast, this is hard to beat!"
Bethan C, 22 Juillet 2019

I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband and 5 year old daughter. We were in Riquwihr primarily to explore the wines (well, except my daughter…!) The hotel is in an excellent location, right next to the old town, a 2 minute walk to its perimeter walls. The room was clean, well laid out and the beds comfortable. The outdoor pool was brisk, even in the July heat, The indoor pool was small but totally fine for our needs. The hammam / sauna area was spotless (and mixed gender). I had a blissful massage in the spa, which was excellent. The breakfast was excellent too. Masses of choice, well stocked and a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were all really helpful and although I think the hotel was full, there was always parking available in front of the hotel. If we were to come back to the region, we would absolutely stay here again.

"One night stop over"
David P, 21 Juillet 2019

Everything except the bedroom was good. The bedroom was small, the bathroom needed updating, the shower screen was a waste of time. Not what I would expect from Best Western... A Pick pocket was even in the main foyer until he saw us looking at him. The staff should be more aware!

"Very nice hotel!"
Road57609570843, 26 Juin 2019

A very good hotel with a very pleasant outdoor pool (and indoor pool). Very nice situated, adjacent to the city wall. The A/C didn't really cope with the heat, but we hade the "African winds" during our stay. Do miss a restaurant.

"Alsatian getaway"
TommyMclure, 22 Juin 2019

A splendid hotel with comfortable rooms and excellent amenities especially the outdoor pool and spa. Warmly recommended for a couple or a family getaway. Riquewihr is right on the wine route and the region is well worth discovering. It is a long way to come from Vancouver, Canada but we hope to return!

"Great value"
anuwat1303, 21 Juin 2019

We were a family of 2 adults and 1 child and stayed in a duplex suite. For the price, this hotel is hard to beat. I found it to be a perfect balance of good rooms, excellent location, and affordable price. The service was very professional yet warming as well. One of the draw was free parking. You can drop your car and your bags at the hotel which is right outside of Riquewihr and walk into the village. This makes it very convenient to get in and out. If you stay inside of Riquewihr itself you have to park outside the wall and lug your bags through the crowd and the cobblestoned streets. Riquewihr itself is lovely but can be quite crowded during the day. However, it is very beautiful and romantic after hours. Overall we had a great stay at the Best Western Hotel Le Schoenenbourg and will stay again if we have another chance to visit Alsace.

"Great customer service!"
Mike D, 04 Juin 2019

The staff was wonderful and greeted us with smiles throughout our 3-night stay. The staff was very helpful as well with local information and helped us make restaurant reservations. The hotel was nicely remodeled and looks brand new. The outdoor pool was great to get our first tan of the year. We are already planning our next visit there!

"Bad service"
Frank B, 03 Juin 2019

Not a service oriented hotel. Checked in at 14:30 and first got told we need to wait until 15:00 and we should read the terms and conditions. We booked one of the expensive rooms, booked at Best Western side and got confirmation at 14:00... they didn't even invited us forces free drink after that behavior or whatever

"Small Room"
JankanHH, 19 Mai 2019

We arrived by car and there was plenty of free parking outside and also covered.Hotel also have Parking Garage might not be free did not ask. No Restaurant but a short walk to Town. Rooms very small and hot. A/C not set for cooling yet reception explained still Cold outside at night. So we left window open from arrival and it was still 24,6 degress at 04,30 with window open. Did ofcourse complain during checkout and had B/F Euro 14x2 taken off the bill, ok even if poor deduction for bad nights sleep. Pillows could have been softer. B/F was normal French.

"Brilliant!"
sydneygirl2015, 17 Mai 2019

We loved our stay in one of the hotels new deluxe rooms recently. The room we had (131) was on the corner of the building so had 2 big windows with lovely vistas, making the room light and bright. We only used the balcony once , due to cool weather, but when the sun shone it was a lovely place to sit with a drink. Wifi was fast, reception staff were helpful, bed super comfy and breakfast was substantial with good quality food. The room had tea and coffee making with a small mini fridge for milk. Plenty of onsite free parking. Very close to the entrance of the charming , but touristy , Riquewihr. Lovely walks through the vineyards to other villages close by. Highly recommended!

"Zero air conditioning"
730helenh, 17 Mai 2019

It is not enjoyable to write a poor review but what choice do you have when the hotel appears completely indifferent to concerns. Most things about the hotel are good but the whole experience was let down by the stifling heat in the room. We enquired why the AC was not working and were advised that it was only on heat mode due to the time of year. I'm not an AC expert but I thought the idea was that it could do both cool and heat! And it's really disappointing when you speak to a member of reception staff who just shrugs their shoulders with a couldn't care less attitude and advises you to open a window. Actually it was nice and cool in the reception area so I guess they were ok. I don't understand the technical reason behind the AC issue but why don't staff at least advise everybody either at check in or by way of a note in the room.

"Excellent Vibration - Family Centric- Brand New Facilities"
AlexandreBergamo, 07 Mai 2019

What has called our "attention" in this Hotel (as we checked-in and along our short stay) was the positive "energy", the "vibration", we felt a calm yet vibrant atmosphere!. From facilities perspective the hotel looks completly new or fully renovated, very nice! The restaurant has big glass windows, it is mostly decorated in light colors, which allows sun light to get in, generating a very pleasant "ambience" for the "petit déjeuner"! most if not all guests were regular families. In our opinion is an Excelent Price Performance Hotel! Now one tip... if you want to have dinner in the village, reserve the restaurant as early as possible... not all restaurants are opened everyday

"Foreseeing tourist insouciance"
tapiac2, 01 Mai 2019

When you travel as a tourist there is a paradox, you have to plan and be aloof. Riquewirh's area is full of hiking trails, that you forgot to plan for... but the hotel has cut-up maps and directions for 7 of them in a folder. Take what you like and go off. The hotel goes further that you can expect for the price: pool, fitness room, clean, friendly personnel and more. This thoughtfulness and service is worth a 5 star grade!

"Love the location of this hotel"
108michaele, 13 Novembre 2018

This Best Western is a great place to stay when visiting Alsace, and the French wine road. Within easy walking distance to Riquewihr, and just a short drive to other villages it makes a great base camp set against some beautiful vineyards. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff is always helpful.

"Good location and rooms but some annoying features"
Richard B, 09 Septembre 2018

The good points:- excellent location, newly renovated building. Rooms are reasonable size and light and bright. Our room had a balcony overlooking the vineyards which was very pleasant in the mornings. We put our car in the underground car park at a 10 Euros a night but in fact there is plenty of free above ground parking. However having booked through booking .com the details stated free toiletries, wine or champagne water etc. This is not quite true since if you want toiletries you have to ask at reception and the wine or champagne is in the minibar but you have to pay for it. The milk and coffee in the room is very mean, enough for 2 cups, then guess what…you have to ask reception for more. Towel and sheets are only changed every three days.. which again can be annoying. The stated reason by the receptionist for the toiletries and towels was to save the environment…. But I think that really means to save cost. Whilst some people may want to save the environment, we should at least be given the choice.

"Better than its 3 Stars!"
wanderingmarine, 04 Septembre 2018

A room with a balcony overlooking the village was a great setting to enjoy a glass of wine as the sunset over the Alsace. Newly extended and modernised with plenty of parking this hotel must surely rate more than 3 stars- outdoor pool, modern bar/ restaurant, gym etc. Think we benefited from the recent building work! Very close to main village, only 200m away and quiet location for exploring the Alsace vineyards. Very helpful and professional staff and a good find for a couple of days. Would stay again.

"Very nice up to date hotel. Very modern"
petem146, 19 Août 2018

Hotel was in a great location just outside the city walls. Nice views of the vineyards and area outside walls. Room was very clean and spacious, bathroom also good size and clean. Nice pool area which was a pleasant surprise. Would go here again.

"Plenty of positives but a few negatives as well"
theflyingdoctor, 15 Août 2018

This relatively new hotel is within easy walking distance of this tourist ‘village'. Staying on site is recommended as the town changes after most of the tourists have gone. Though there is no restaurant on site there is a plentiful supply of good albeit expensive restaurants close by. Breakfast is €14 per person per day which was more than we were prepared to spend so cannot comment. There is a lovely boulangerie at the petrol station in nearby Bennwihr. . There is a reasonable size car park for guests - as well as on the premises. This is very helpful given parking can be difficult as well as very costly. The hotel also has a private compound in summer with an open air pool- wonderful in view of the very hot weather when we visited. Staff were very friendly throughout speaking a variety of languages including good English and German - you are only 30 km if that from their border. There is a small lift. We were in room 217 which we found small though this grew on us during our stay. This was adequately furnished and bed comfort was reasonable . There is a small overpriced minibar. We had no problems emptying the fridge and putting in our own drinks- replacing the stock on departure. Good safe in room. Excellent shower and washroom but the toilet is round a corner with no wash basin. As I am instinctively used to washing my hands immediately after nature's call , I did not feel happy going through the bedroom till I could clean up. The other significant minus was the ongoing building work of which we were unaware at booking. This is noisy and started at about 7.45 am and would go on till early/ mid afternoon. Reading quietly by the pool was not an option! I accept work has to go on but at the height of the tourist season? We did not use the spa not indoor gym facilities. Pleasant if slightly sterile bar area. This goes onto a balcony which is pleasant. Drink prices very steep by NE U.K. standards- €7 for a 50 cl pression. This hotel has a lot going for it. We paid approx €100 for a night booking and paying in full some 4 months before arrival. This was very good value. Rack rates almost 50% higher which might make me stay elsewhere had I not pre-booked. There is plenty to do round here. Colmar is a 15 minute drive , Strasbourg 30 mins Freiburg just under the hour and Basel little more than this. For the kids Europapark theme park is also about an hour away in Germany Would I stay here again when building work is finished?. Yes but please let me wash my hands immediately I get off the toilet.

"Good location with on sight parking"
EKSAYERS, 26 Juillet 2018

We enjoyed our stay here and got a really good deal. The hotel was undergoing building works during our visit but it did not bother us. Our room was comfortable and quiet with views over the vineyards. It's located close to the city walls so very convenient. On sight parking is offered which was ideal for us. We used the swimming pool which is located in front of the hotel and you require a code to access it. It was gorgeous weather so it was a welcome feature. Riquewihr is a lovely walled town. Lots of tourists during the day but quieter at night. Great wine tasting opportunities! Would recommend both the hotel and town.

"Just OK"
Temp_2008, 25 Juillet 2018

The hotel looks better on the pictures than it is. The pool is not right in front of the hotel, as the picture indicate. It is across the street. When we were there, there was noisy construction going on from 730 in the morning until 1730 in the afternoon (pooring asphalt). Our room was just above the construction noise, completely unacceptable. One of those "we are a building site, and we will try to rent out rooms in the mean time at full price and even though we should offer you a discount or at least tell you on our website that we are a construction site right now, we won't, because it will be too difficult for you to find something else once you are here"- kind of places. We did get another room though when we complained, but why trying to rent out the room in the first place. Dogs are allowed and the upper hallway on the 3rd floor smelled of dog pee. The only thing this hotel has going for itself is the location, that's it. Breakfast was nothing special and defenately not worth the high price. One of those pretentious hotels that cannot live up to its own ambitions. We wouldn't pick this hotel again. Far too expensive for what you get.

"Terrific Stay"
Thomas M, 07 Juillet 2018

The hotel in located next to the old city. The staff is excellent. The Director, Mr. Mathias Striebel was really a caring person. We had to call back to the United States for a problem with a credit card.We had trouble getting thru to the US and Mr. Striebel came up to the room to help us.He was will for us to use his cell phone but he figured out what we were doing wrong. That gesture to us was way above and beyond caring for his guests. We also really liked this hotel,we even extended our stay.

"Great location and under renivation"
Lisa T, 17 Juin 2018

My family and I just stayed here in the Family Suite. It was very nice with one room having 2 single beds and the other room having a king size bed. The room was comfortable and you just need to ask for a special key from the front desk to get to the swimming pools. Note that the pools close at 8pm. Near the breakfast area is under renovation so there was a loud drilling noise during breakfast. I thought they had a nice selection of food. One of the best parts is that you get free parking with your room and then you are just outside the walled city so it is easy to walk into the city for supper or look around.

"Cramped"
Picco48, 10 Mai 2018

Room was rather small, especially for the price. We decided on this hotel thinking we would have a larger room than in the old town and didn't mind paying a little more but were rather disappointed. Didn't provide shower cap, lotion etc. That we found in every hotel room since we arrived in Europe. Decor was a bit kitschig.

"Wonderfully comfortable and convenient!"
Jacquelyn D, 02 Mai 2018

I was wary of booking a night's stay at the Best Western because of my impression of them stateside. My friend and I took a trip to Riquewihr as a whim with limited options for lodging. We were more than pleasantly surprised by the many comforts and cleanliness of this hotel!! The room is modern with nice touches to it. I was also happy to see that we were just outside the walls of Riquewihr. The breakfast for €14 had a great spread. The staff allowed us to keep our car in the private parking lot during our shopping day. I plan to come back with my family when the outdoor pool opens!

"Good Location to explore Riquewihr"
TanleyT, 01 Mai 2018

We stayed for two nights in this hotel, walking distance to old town and taste the wines in town. There are the stairs just right side to the hotel, you are able to walk to vineyards The room was large and comfortable, good breakfast, the staff was always friendly and helpful.

"No Air Conditioning Working at the Hotel"
Carlos R, 01 Mai 2018

I stayed in last April at the hotel for four nights. The forecast for that week was sunny and hot days which is quite uncommon for Alsace in April. When we reached our bedroom the air conditioning didn't work. We thought it was an isolated problem at our room. But it wasn't. The whole hotel air conditioning system was not working. According to the hotel staff they don't have the air conditioning system on at that time of the year. And they didn't even care to turn on the system. I stayed with my 70-years old mother in a very hot bedroom, and no way to offer another fresher room like those on the back facing the vineyards. “No ar conditioning at this time and that's not our problem, sir”, that what I heard without further explanations or concerns.

"High standing 3 stars with SPA"
Kim_8000, 18 Février 2018

We were looking for a hotel close to Riquewihr, having a SPA, in a reasonable price range and a good standard : the BEST WESTERN Hotel le Schoenenbourg is the perfect solution to our equation. Located right at the entrance of the beautiful village of Riquewihr, it is only 2-minutes walk away from the old city pedestrian streets of the village. Having a lot of private parking spaces, one doesn't need to worry about parking his car in order to visit the village. The hotel is clean and very functional. We enjoyed the SPA a lot, it is very new, therefore the equipment's (Sauna, SPA, small pool) were very good quality. Bathrobe and slippers can be requested free of charge at the reception. Room Superior is pretty large, with tea/coffee amenities. WIFI is fast. The reception staff is very friendly. We recommend and would definitely stay here again, the next time we visit Riquewihr.

"Ideal for those traveling in Alsace by car"
Amit_and_Alex, 08 Janvier 2018

The Best Western Le Schoenenbourg offers free parking, which was a big plus for us since we were touring Alsace by car. The hotel is a 5 min walk to Riquewihr old town with its quaint shops and restaurants. The hotel is being renovated, but we stayed in one of the ‘old' rooms. Nevertheless, the room was clean, comfortable and very spacious.

"Wonderful hotel in a great location."
Michael E, 24 Décembre 2017

We drove to the Alsace to visit the Christmas markets with Riquewihr being our final stop. The Best Western Hotel Le Schoenenbourg was the perfect location for my wife and I. The hotel staff were friendly and professional taking care of all of our questions while checking in, and front gate to the village of Riquewihr is just a short 5 minute walk from the hotel. This location allowed us to keep our car parked during our entire stay. Our room was very comfortable with the shower and toilet being separated which is something I like. Makes getting ready in the morning much easier. We also had a view of the vineyards which I liked. Our two little dogs joined us so being on the edge of town was nice, and I was able to take some nice walks along the vineyards outside of Riquewihr with my camera. Very happy with our stay =)

"Excellent Location"
Michael K, 19 Septembre 2017

This hotel is in a great location for anyone wishing to visiting the Alsace wineries. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean with plenty of hot water for a shower. There was a very good choice for breakfast, shame there wasn't a restaurant on an evening though there was a good choice in the town which was a five minute walk. Only letdown for me was allowing pets in the breakfast dining room (not a guide dog).

"Excellent hotel on the edge of town"
apple_gardener, 08 Septembre 2017

Modern well appointed hotel within short walking distance of this very pretty town on the Route des Vins in Alsace.Decent sized rooms (superior double is the best- light and airy) large bathrooms shower and bath tea/ Coffee making facilities king size beds, excellent breakfast and very helpful courteous staff. No restaurant facilities but plenty of places to eat in town. Parking outside free and in secure garage for 10€ per day. Beware active noisy building of new spa at present but ok if rooms specified away from building site. Outdoor pool and spa exist already.

"A excellent hotel with a great location"
Schlauberger1846, 04 Septembre 2017

Riquehihr is the pluperfect Alsatian village, Fachwerk buildings housing wineries and restaurants surrounded by a medieval wall. The village has many quaint hotels within the walls, but you have to park your car outside the walls. The Le Schoenenburg is a modern hotel a short walk from the town gate which has lots of onsite parking! We have stayed here before and always enjoyed it. They are adding rooms on top of the previous parking lot, but parking is still available onsite. Check-in was seamless, and their website allows you to pick the exact room conformation that you desire. They have good WIFI and a very nice bar with bière pression. Our room overlooked the vineyard behind the hotel and was very quiet. The breakfast looked great, but we walked through the city gate past the fountain to the Le Chalet Crepes on the right where Audrey made us a fantastic apricot crepes for breakfast. Later in the day, the same store serves delicious gelato. The Hotel Le Schoenenbourg is a first rate hotel with comfortable rooms and easy access to all of the charms of Riquewihr. We look forward to staying there in the future

"Enjoyed a lot!!!!"
zeljkadurovic, 30 Août 2017

Great hotel at the center of beautiful Le Schoenenbourg wine yards. National category is 3*, but this hotel should be an excellent 4*. This hotel exceeded expectations in every possible way. Just a few steps away from the very heart of the city. Hotel itself is very nice, modern in decoration. We have booked Triple (not renovated) room and the room was very nice with very nice view of vineyards at the back of the hotel. The bathroom is just fine in size and comfortable enough. Hotel has outdoor swimming pool with very nice soundings and pool beds. You get the pool towels, as well. At the moment, they are building another part of the hotel with indoor pool and saunas which will make this hotel even better. I had a chance to take a look at the renovated rooms and those are very, very nice in decor. Breakfast was excellent and you can enjoy good selection of fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, cheese, croissants, juices, coffee etc. Front desk is excellent. All of them are doing an exceptional work. We needed some restaurant reservations before we came to Alsace and Ms. Catherine and Salome made the booking for us. This hotel was an excellent choice and I would recommend it to all travelers looking for excellent location and great comfort.

"Overall good"
delagioventu, 21 Août 2017

We have seen this hotel grow over the years . They have redone the lobby very nicely. Good parking outside and inside, the latter for 10 euro. Nice pool at the other side of a quiet street. Rooms ate adequate but the hotel is becoming a bit of a labyrinth.

"Nice hotel"
Henrik J, 25 Juillet 2017

Nice, clean hotel just outside the centre of Riquewihr with a nice little pool and sunbeds just opposite the hotel. Walking distance to everything and vineyards just 5 meters away. Staff very friendly, speaks English very well. Good assorted breakfast.

"It is a construction site !!"
LucGO, 06 Juillet 2017

It starts at 7.00 am and it ends at 4.00 pm. During these hours, a construction company is building a new wing on the hotel and they are making quite some noise, despite closed windows. Inside the buiding, the walls are very thin but that is typical in France.

"Great centrally located hotel on Route des Vins d'Alsace"
Donald B, 29 Juin 2017

We picked up our new car in Munich and we were looking for a hotel with adequate and safe parking. We heard from other travelers about the parking at BW Hotel Le Schoenenbourg but we only learned about the garage upon check-in. The garage was clean, well lit and very secure. We explored by car during the day and then enjoyed our very short walk to Riquewihr for dinner. We were able to share a bottle of the great Alsatian wines for dinner without the worry of driving. The morning coffee and breakfast was very well presented and delicious. More than enough choices of hot or cold food, meats, cheese, bread, eggs, etc. The front desk staff were very helpful with directions and suggestions. We stayed for 5 nights and had an enjoyable stay. We have used Trip Advisor for reviews but had never written a review. We stayed at this hotel last year so this review is long overdue. There is so much to see in this area that we are currently planning a return visit later this year and we will definitely stay at Le Schoenenberg again.

"nice place"

we spend 3 days at this place that is the second time here always nice to stay room are very nice and the the bathroom modern and nice peoples are very pleasant nice park place not far from the City '''''''we sure come back'''''

"Nice hotel at nice location"
Vianney S, 24 Décembre 2016

Riquewihr is a beautiful small town in Alsace. Le Schoenenbourg is a nice hotel, with very good rooms, just outside the town (2 minutes walk). It has an own parking place (which is difficult inside Riquewihr). The hotel is surrounded by vineyards.

"Glad we only nightstopped..."
Parish56, 02 Novembre 2016

We wanted to nightstop somewhere in the Alsace wine region on our way to Switzerland and chose Riquewihr based on some brief (too brief as it turned out.. ) research. Having chosen the venue we searched for accomodation and the Best Western popped up with a late booking deal so we grabbed it. The hotel room was perfectly adequate for one night but accessing our room up a very tight spiral staircase with bags was both ridiculous and dangerous. As for Riquewihr we were quite disappointed. It was like walking through a section of Disney World with gaudy painted timber framed houses. Similarly the whole village seemed geared to tourism rather than the wine industry.

"Surprise "
Anne H, 31 Octobre 2016

Really enjoyed our weekend in Alsace. Best Western was the perfect place to stay. Location, location, location. Just a short walk to the old town. Check in staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Great view of the vineyards. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. BBC news station on the television. Check in was at 1pm and check out was at 12, great. Free car parking. Walked out to a great restaurant, "La Grenouille ", creme brulee was heaven.

"Great Location just outside the fortress walls of old Riquewihr"
Donald D, 22 Octobre 2016

Convenient to the old town of Riquewihr, le Schenenbourg is a very well appointed modern hotel with the added plus of having a very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was in a newer wing of the hotel and was very comfortable. Highly recommend--even has an outdoor swimming pool.

"Great location"
Andrew C, 18 Octobre 2016

The hotel is located just a few hundred feet outside the old city wall of Riquewihr. There is ample parking and garage space for an extra fee. There is a pleasant bar and breakfast room. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. A very nice hotel at a reasonable rate.

"Nice staff and good location"
Renet_58, 12 Octobre 2016

Hotel Le Schoenenbourg is ideally situated. Just outside the historical centre of Riquewihr. It is really enjoyable to be able to leave your car on the hotel's premises and walk to the centre (3 minutes). The hotel itself is wonderful. Rooms are very clean and comfortable, but a little tight (superior rooms should have more space). If you stay only for a few nights, it is no problem, but we stayed for 10 nights. Staff is very friendly and professional. At the reception you always get good advice. When we arrived, we received a shortlist of restaurants of Riquewihr that were worthwhile trying (I think we did 80% of them, and they are really good). There is a pretty smooth atmosphere and at night you can get a good sleep (good beds, quiet environment). The cleaning staff is very efficient and manage to clean the rooms without you being bothered. The hotel has a nice swimming pool just outside the building. You can also hire e-bikes. Last but not least, breakfast is very good and extensive. There is a big choice of fresh items and the bread is particularly delicious.

"Good for a stopover night"
KHA1, 29 Septembre 2016

This was a good break for us on our long drive. We needed secure parking, which they have. The room was dated but clean. Breakfast was good. Didn't use the pool. Very nice little village with cobbled streets and wine shops.

"Excellent location and good value for money"
Aki N, 25 Septembre 2016

This hotel is just outside of the historic city center. The benefit is an easy access with a car and parking facilities next to hotel. Still the city center is in very near proximity. Hotel building is somewhat like a farm house style and has a lot of corners. Our rooms were totally different in shape and size. Hotel is quiet and clean, but not a very new. Bathrooms were OK, but not very large one. Beds are average. Breakfast was quite typical but good enough. Overall this hotel is good value for money with good location.

"Perfect location!"
cmangum, 18 Septembre 2016

We were torn between staying in Colmar or Riquewihr. We inevitably decided on Riquewihr and the Best Western. We were incredibly elated with our choice of staying here. Honestly the hotel itself is very basic and isn't too memorable with the exception of the amazing location. We stayed in a 3rd floor double and the view out of our window overlooked Riquewihr and the surrounding area. The room was pretty basic and perfectly adequate. Nothing about the hotel stood out or left a lasting impression. However with that being said the location was so good that I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. I could walk out of the hotel in the morning and be in the center of the old town in 5 minutes. The staff were all very cordial and helpful. The breakfast each morning was nice and very reasonably priced. Riquewihr is an amazing little village. Yes I read reviews of how touristy it is but that's really only during the heart of the day. When we stayed here we got up early and walked around late in the evening and enjoyed the village without any of the hoopla. At these times you really got to experience the magic of this place. It is really one beautiful destination. So if you are like us and searching endlessly for an accommodation in Alsace and want to be in the heart of the action then this hotel is perfect for you.

"Not at all bad"
CarS27, 16 Septembre 2016

Just travelling through and Riquewihr is a very pretty tourist town. The hotel room was perfectly good. Had everything you needed and was clean. The staff were all pleasant We only had breakfast here and it had everything you needed.

"All about The staff!"
Mikael D, 15 Septembre 2016

Vinyards outside your window. French fresh air. And swallows chasing across the sky. The Hotel has that but that is all. I would not recommend this Hotel unless You really are out in the last minute and all others are full. The staff however are the best, just shear perfection in sevicemindedness.

"Failure to handle urgencies"
Berke E, 13 Septembre 2016

Although I was ready to give a 4* review, we experienced an unpleasant crisis handling today. We forgot some belongings in the room safe after we left. Though we were only 15 minutes away by driving I called the hotel hoping to explain our urgency. Our receptionist put me on hold because he was attending some other customer in the reception even after I told him this was an urgency. When we went back all was safe and the hotel sent someone to our former room, getting our belongings. After this I critisized their behavior. Both our receptionist and Mr.Manager was there. He explained to me that he had to finish attending the other customers as their procedures dictated him to do so. Mr. Manager told me anybody can say it's urgent over the phone so then nothing is urgent anymore. This wasn't a pleasant answer to give to a worried customer. Not to mention we were a revisiting group of four people. He told their procedure in these matters is solid and added that urgency means someone is dying in the first place and our urgency is a small matter for them since it's material based. Here's my evaluation: * They didn't ask me to explain the urgency, it might as well be medical. How about that? One should always ask about the urgency, I don't accept the previous answer. * I cannot know how they handle such matters if they don't explain it to me and put me on hold instead. * They should have apologized after they got the insight instead of trying to teach me their procedures. I liked Alsace and I will be returning with more friends, definetely staying in Riquewihr. I wonder how Mr.Manager will react to my critique.

"Well located modern hotel"
Colin M, 04 Septembre 2016

The friendly staff are the key attraction of this hotel which was immaculately clean. It is very well located for walking into town. There is a free car park and a bar. Several good restaurants are nearby.

"Lovely hotel to stay in Riquewihr"
CDL3, 04 Septembre 2016

We spent 2 very pleasant nights at the Schoenenbourg just outside the city walls. Our room was small but worked perfectly well with a comfortable bed and good shower with separate toilet. Everything was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a very good buffet with lots of choice of fresh products. It was lovely at the end of a day's sightseeing to park the ca then relax by and cool off in the pool. We would definitely like to return here and can highly recommend the hotel.

"Very pet friendly and convenient to the city!"
knotheadusc, 02 Août 2016

My husband and I currently live a couple of hours from France. Last week, I made a spur of the moment decision to visit Riquewihr for one night. I had heard many great things about Riquewihr and we wanted to pick up some Alsatian wines and cheeses. Because this was a last minute trip, we brought our two dogs with us. The dogs are the main reason why I chose to book at Best Western Hotel Le Schoenenbourg. They are very pet friendly! I got one of the last rooms available on Saturday night last week. It was a suite, which was huge and superbly outfitted for us. The staff had kindly left a water bowl for the dogs, along with a couple of treats for Zane and Arran. I thought that was a nice touch! While we certainly didn't need as much room as we had, it was nice to have such big quarters. The room itself featured a sitting area with a TV, as well as a TV in the bedroom. There was a minibar with room for other drinks. The bathroom was huge, with a deep tub and a large shower. The toilet was in a separate area off the sitting room. There was even an inner glass door, which would have been helpful in keeping the dogs from hanging out by the front door had we not opted to take them with us when we were out. I appreciated the check in time of 1:00pm, the bar with its ample outdoor seating, and the nice pool outside, though I didn't have a chance to try the pool. There's also plenty of free parking, as well as secure garage parking. An excellent restaurant is located right next to the hotel, but as it's so close to the town, you won't have any problems finding a good meal. My only complaint is about the breakfast tray we ordered. It came with several excellent breads, juice, jam, butter, honey, and some of the worst coffee I've had in a long time. It was very weak and tasteless, which was really a disappointment. I would have expected better coffee in France... or anywhere, really. But that's a pretty minor complaint. If we go back and order breakfast, we'll just ask for tea. I would highly recommend this hotel, especially for pet owners and families.

"Alsace"
Bill M, 14 Juillet 2016

We stayed at this hotel for our annual Europe trip. 4 night stay- just perfect. Great location, renovated rooms, modern and clean. Nice pool. Good breakfast. The staff is incredibly helpful , especially the general manager Mathias Striebel. Great location to explore the small towns nearby or to bike ride thru the vineyards- which we did.

"Good but old fashion style"
Pschon, 13 Juillet 2016

Several rooms need to be renowated. Beds great but old fashion ugly carpet in the room. Great location for the Hotel on the Alsace vine road. Good parking but difficult for sportscar to entering upper level due to step drain can crushed your spoiler easy. Quite expensive for what you get.

"Friendly hotel in Riquewihr"
shirley123905, 08 Juillet 2016

Conveniently located near to the old town and next to vineyards, this hotel is an ideal base from which to explore both Riquewihr and the surrounding area. The rooms are comfortable and there is plenty of parking, including secure parking if required. We have stayed here on a number of occasions now and the standard and service has been consistently high. The staff are friendly and helpful and there's an excellent breakfast buffet.

"The place to stay for car drivers"
Tapio J, 07 Juillet 2016

A good basic modern hotel which fits nicely into the landscape. A great location just outside the village. Very pleasant and helpful service. I would recommend this for car drivers since in many of these small villages parking can be challenging. This hotel has free parking outside and also a garage for which they charge a small amount.

"Good 3* Hotel"
Basel S, 21 Juin 2016

Stayed here for one night during traveling the route du vin. The location is next to the vineyard but a bit outside the center. The room was a bit small but modern and clean. The bathroom was really nice. So for one night it is the best choice in Riquewihr.

"Perfect for visiting Riquewihr"
AroundTheWorld000, 20 Juin 2016

This hotel has a part that is somewhat "older" and another one that is newer. We stayed in the older. The hotel room was spacious and absolutely tidy. The bathroom was fresh and the shower good. There was a minibar which we had good use of, since we brought our own breakfast (the one offered by the hotel may be VERY good, but the price was also very high). And there are coffee / tea facilities also at the room. Maybe the very best thing about the hotel is where it is situated. Just a few minutes to reach the old town. The hotel also had a big, secure parking!

"Very nice hotel just outside the tow gates"
DVHeard, 07 Juin 2016

I had a great stay on my one night in France. The staff were very helpful and spoke perfect English, which normally isn't a factor for me but helps when you have been on the plan overnight and then driven for 2 hours. My room was larger than expected and the windows opened to lovely views of the neighboring vineyard. It seemed like I could reach out and pick some of the grapes. I am not sure if it is noisier in town but I had the windows open at night and slept like a baby. Very easy walk "into" town. To say this is on the outskirts is pushing that definition since the wall of the town is practically across the street. One recommendation would be if you have mobility issues or have loads of luggage, do not stay on the top floor. The elevator stops one floor below and you must use a fairly narrow spiral staircase to reach the top floor. Again, not an issue for everyone and if you know and come prepared that floor has great views!

"Well placed and comfortable"
pimbury, 06 Juin 2016

Just returned from a whistle stop tour across France and Italy. I'm baffled by some of the lack lustre comments on here. This is a 3 star hotel that knocked spots off the 4 star hotels I have stayed in. This hotel is plain and simple in style but so well thought out. Our room was very well lit as was the bathroom. A kettle was provided - unusual in Europe. Comfy bed and pillows. Charming staff. A beautiful and extensive breakfast - smoked salmon, local cheese, very fresh pastries, big bowls of unusual jams, quality juice - I could've spent all morning there! Pool looked a reasonable size but I didn't fancy it in the rain! OK, so the town may be a little twee, but most is original and I found it absolutely stunning. I can't wait to go back and have a proper look with more time. Great selection of restaurants. Wifi seemed fine to me although I'm used to rural broadband...

"nice rooms"
Fonzzemst, 02 Juin 2016

nice hotel, next to the little town of Riquewhire with its own parking. Only 200 m away from the main gate of the old town. We payed 90€ for a room with vieuw on the winefields. Breakfast we had in the town itself.

"Quality, Value and Attention to Detail"
ulysses4, 21 Mai 2016

As chains go, Best Western is usually a safe and smart bet. Independent hotels, with individual character and yet held to a high brand standard. This property is occupying some very expensive real estate, just outside the old city's walls, right against some vineyards and providing ample parking in a place where parking is a challenge. More like a high quality American Motor Lodge, the outside of the hotel, and much of the inside for that matter, is plain, functional and well crafted. Perhaps the best bed four weeks into our trip in France-in terms of comfort. The bathroom is small, but considerable thought has gone into providing excellent lighting, a decent shower attachment to an old somewhat narrow tub, and a separate water closet for efficiency. A few attractive color photos of the local landscapes adds a little individuality to the fairly generic bedrooms. The front desk greeting and continued service is cordial, helpful and professional. Free parking is a significant plus-and the ramp along the side makes rolling bags quite easy. A locked garage is available for those who want an additional level of security at a modest price (10E/night). The morning breakfast, which helpfully runs as late as 11, is somewhat average, although Tropicana Juice is a semi-premium item. The coffee is adequate, if not inspiring, and there is a decent effort to provide an assortment of breads, fruits, yogurts. Hard boiled eggs are available, and for the adventurous, or the reckless, steam table scrambled eggs. The hotel is extremely quiet, which is a big plus considering they have 55 rooms. There is a pool, free but somewhat erratic wifi, and perhaps other amenities we didn't use. The location is ideal both for walking into the old town and exploring the lovely villages nearby along the Alsatian Wine Road. Very fairly priced, we would be delighted to return.

"Good base for touring the area"
joypam10, 15 Mai 2016

We had a superior double room that was at the back of the hotel, it had a large balcony that overlooked the vineyards. The room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was modern. The hotel is in an excellent situation just outside the walls and a very short walk to the pretty village. I cannot comment on the standard of the food as we had breakfast in the village . The hotel serves snacks but no meals apart from breakfast. This presents no problems as there are numerous places to eat in Riquwihr. Adjacent to the hotel is the restaurant Original rated on this site. The pool is just across from the hotel but it appears there are plans to build a " spa" complex soon.

"Definitely would stay here again"
Lori J, 27 Avril 2016

Love this place. We were able to park in front of the hotel ( free), which is minutes from the center. The room was fabulous; great beds, rain shower, kettle, and a mini refrigerator. Our room had a balcony overlooking the vineyards- outstanding. I would recommend getting a room in the back. Even though the hotel was doing renovations, they started later in the morning, so didn't interfere with sleeping. I can't wait to come back.

"Springtime Visit to Riquewihr"
Kristina D, 11 Avril 2016

We enjoyed the hotel very much. It was quiet. We were given a corner room on the second floor. We could see the town out one window and the vineyards from the other. Bed was comfy, shower was hot and staff very friendly. Parking was a breeze and free (outdoors) and we were just steps from the town gate.

"OK but pool is small"
Patrick M, 11 Février 2016

I already reviewed this hotel where I spent one week last summer - for the price it is a fine solution for families & nice out look over the vineyard & close to the village centre. They gave breakfast on a large outdoor terrace but I dont recollect if they had an evening restaurant - the local village just seems to offer the wafer thin local version of a pizza which I found totally uninteresting - the village is cute but a touch kitch -

"Excellent location but poor value for money"
EUTravellerWW, 07 Janvier 2016

The location of the BEST WESTERN Hotel le Schoenenbourg is perfect as it is in Riquewihr and in the middle of the Rue du Vin. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean and well maintained but very old. We paid too much for the value offered, but unfortunately there are no other good hotels in the area.

"Absolutely LOVELY"
saragT8376GU, 01 Janvier 2016

As a single, female traveler visiting Alsace for a combination of business and pleasure, I could not have been more delighted with my experience at this charming hotel. The bathroom was enormous with a wonderful shower. The room was quiet, and had lovely views of the Schoenenbourg Grand Cru. Parking was easy and convenient, making it super easy to have a car with which to tour the many villages, wineries & vineyards of Alsace. The best part was the STAFF. The Concierge spoke incredible English and made numerous suggestions about the best places to eat, including an amazing Alsatian/Japanese place at the top of the village. There is a sweet little bar, which was wonderful for a nightcap at the end of the day. They even had local Alsatian Marc and Schnapps. I was thrilled. I would DEFINITELY return, and very much hope to, sometime in the near future!!

"Great rustic feel"
nixonka, 05 Décembre 2015

Hotel was really nicely decorated and very clean. Had a great rustic feel to it. Room had two TV areas and location to the Christmas Market was ideal. Was only 1 or 2 minute walk to the market. Very convenient location.

"Worked out perfectly"
Bibthesquid, 26 Novembre 2015

This place was very convent for us. It's only a block outside the walled city & was nice and quiet for it's one block away from the main road. The breakfast was wonderful. We rented the electric bikes which was really cool and we rode all the way to Colmar & Kaiserberg. Part of the ride was on a trail and part of it was on busy roads. They supply helmets. The pool was nice & nice loungers.

"No Problem Stay next to a Tight Little Village Tasteful and lots of Parking"
DaveandChip, 31 Octobre 2015

We highly recommend this architecturally sensitive hotel just a minute's walk from the Medieval village of Riqeuwihr (the Rique Family's village.) Wine production is the area's main occupation and you might see part of the process while visiting. The hotel is just outside of the bustling town with grape and wine trucks rattling down cobbled streets, as well as away from their other economy - tourists. The hotel is very quiet and dark. A minute's walk will also get you to a path through the vineyards with a sweet summer house and views of the town and surrounding landscape. There is lots of parking which the other hotels in town cannot offer; very important since there are many day-trippers. In comparison this much closer to town than the other modern hotel and a little less hotelish. We payed for an upgrade so our room at the end of the building was large and had a balcony half the size of a tennis court. Most rooms along the front had small ones. The bar was manned nearly all day and night by a handsome bartender. The hotel offered a local beer and had one on tap and had a big wine list. Breakfast was extensive with two coffee/espresso machines, a wheel of French munster cheese (not American Muenster, but a local smelly delicacy sealed with-in a ceramic cheese keeper), 6 cheeses, 6 meats, runny jams, an excellent brown baguette, packaged and bowled yogurt and creamy farmer cheese, fresh fruit, and the latest thing; a D I Y soft egg boiler. Lots of room between tables. It's very near to several excellent restaurants, but it isn't near any food or provision shopping. No bread, no charcuterie except for a very small one that is half way up the street. A few wine stores but no spirits or food. • Accessibility: no Stairs Etc.- 2 elevators, the one in the lobby is small. But back the hall there is one that fits 4 suitcases and 2 people. • Bathroom Size is medium Shower in Tub • Storage shelves ample • Toilet paper excellent • Toilet comfortable • Tea & Coffee tray - yes • Toiletries good • Duvet only • Extra pillow and the ones on the bed were terrific and firm • Bed Firm • Area around Bed was good, not huge • Lighting was very good • No Coat Hooks • Desk Attendance was constant • View was fantastic; the front looking over a swimming pool, a strange antique house and the corner tower of the city walls. The back opened to a steep hillside with neatly planted rows of grape vines.

"Excellant Location"
Christine E, 21 Octobre 2015

This hotel is just a few minutes from the city walls of Riquewihr, which makes it perfect as Riquewihr can be very busy with tourists but lovely to walk the streets at night. It has a free car park and we had no trouble in finding a space. The breakfasts were one of the best with so much choice. The room although not luxury was absolutely fine and comfortable. The breakfast staff were very friendly and the receptions helpful. We have stayed here before and would definitely recommend it.

"Modern and Clean in a city with so much history"
wejosey, 14 Octobre 2015

Located just outside the walled area of Riquewhir, you get the comforts of a modern hotel with a view of the 700 year old city. This is more of a modern hotel than others in the area and our room appears to have been renovated within the last year or so. One high point was the spacious shower with a rain head! We didn't really take advantage of the facilities but what we did see was very clean and well maintained.

"Well appointed and good location"
Neurosurgeon, 09 Octobre 2015

Perfectly located for easy access to old town. Easy and free parking. Rooms very comfortable. Excellent breakfast options. Best way to visit Riquewirh and surrounding area. Staff is delightful and most responsive.

"PerfectPlace"
DrSzondy M, 06 Octobre 2015

Riquewihr is a wonderful old town, the BestWesternHotel has privat parking place,100meters from the towngate. Big and clean rooms, the wiew is fantastic from the window. 70 km from Basel-Mulhouse airport. Highly recommend hotel/we returned third times here/

"Clean and Comfortable"
Chii Fen C, 05 Octobre 2015

It's the best in the 3 of Best Western Hotels I stayed this time, clean and very comfortable, decoration well, though not luxury but worth of what we hope and pay. The only problem is too good to be fully booked, so we almost can not find the parking space when back from Colmar at late night.

"Riquewihr is a great base for Alsace touring, and Le Schoenebourg is a great hotel in Riquewihr"
petergoode2, 30 Septembre 2015

My wife and I decided to use Riquewihr as a base for our Alsace touring...considered d b, but the nice hotels were seemingly going to place us in the middle of a horde of tourists. Both the choice of city, as well as choice of hotel, worked out perfectly. We had spent three days in Reims, took the TGV to Strasbourg, rented a car, and arrived in Riquewihr around 3 pm. We were warmly greeted, given the key to our room 118 (facing the parking lot, no problem, we would see infinite numbers of vineyards over the coming days), quickly organized ourselves, and walked the town. The room was adequately sized with a VERY comfortable bed. The room temperature was easily controlled. Not much light in the room, bring your own reading light if you want to read after the sun sets...the TV had a small digital clock, and as always, bring your own washcloth if you are like us in this regard. The shower provided great hot water with good power. The sink was surrounded by very ample shelf space. The soap is provided via squeeze bottle at the sink, and another squeeze device in the shower. We were surprised at how very slippery the bathroom tile floor had become wet, be warned. WiFi download speed of 200 kbps was fine, but every hour or so it was necessary to sign back in to maintain access, was a bit aggravating when engaged in project needing some concentration. We did not bother to attempt any real time streaming, might have worked. Upload speeds were terrible, which made it difficult for us to upload our photographs to Shutterfly. The 13E breakfasts were a bad influence on us...several types of cheese (Emmental, goat, Munster, brie), wonderful croissants/baguette bread/pouffy muffin type thing, cereals, canned fruits, several types of ham, scrambled eggs and sausage, hard boiled eggs), juices. They had two side-by-side coffee dispensers which allowed one to make fabulous cappuccinos. The dining area was very attractive. Being Americans, we needed our ice at the end of the day, the bar staff were very nice about providing us with Ice Bags full of cubes. The hotel is perfectly situated for a visit to Riquewihr...very easy and adequate parking, and just a two minute walk to the base of town and an uphill stroll past any number of wonderful restaurants, including Au Tire Bouchon, Au Dolder, which we enjoyed....the hotel does provide a list of some, TA reviews were helpful...our best evening meal ended up to be at a restaurant not on the hotel list, Relais des Moines. Side trips to Haut Koenigsburg, Ribeauville, Keyserburg, Colmar, Equisheim were an easy drive...and we would not have wished to have missed ANY of them! Only slight downsides were the minimal TV offerings for English speakers (no big deal, we did not come here to watch TV), and something happened to the hot water on our final morning, but they got it fixed quickly. Front desk staff is extraordinarily friendly...they put up with my attempts to recall my rusty French, and did not humiliate me for my limited ability to "roll my R's"! Bottom line, this is a great hotel in a fairy tale area...would recommend Le Schoenebourg to ANYONE considering a few days in the area.

"Excellent location for visiting Riquewihr and the area"
The_Cafe_Tester, 30 Septembre 2015

Cracking good hotel, very professional as you'd expect with very friendly staff on reception. Our room small but very smart, same for bathroom but the shower was very spacious. Everything worked here including the WiFi! There was even tea & coffee in our room, that a first on this trip! Breakfast here was a real treat and a great way to start the day. There was seating outside, but sadly it wasn't warm enough for us to enjoy this :( I'd stay here again no problem. Oh, and don't forget the free parking! Lat/Long N48.16696° E7.30104°

"Really Nice Mid-sized hotel in a Charming Village."
FrequentTraveler137, 28 Septembre 2015

The Schoenenbourg is a really pleasant mid-sized hotel with most of the modern conveniences to help the weary traveler. Good A/C that actually worked. A better than decent breakfast. But the breakfast layout is pretty confusing, and it's easy to miss important components. Our first morning I didn't find the scrambled eggs because they were out of sight from the stand where you could boil your own eggs. The next day I stumbled upon them and they were really good, creamy, tasty and fresh. The confusing breakfast layout cost the hotel a bit in my rating. The staff were wonderfully helpful, even when we had a plumbing problem around midnight. Did I say that there's a lovely deck to recuperate from a day of sightseeing, along with the required delicious white Alsatian wine? There is! The town is cute; by all means walk the 3-4 short blocks to the main street of an evening and watch the lights come on!

"Wonderful place to stay"
christine s, 27 Septembre 2015

Stayed here for 2 nights on a wine tour. Amazing hotel but they didn't do dinner I guess because of all the restaurants up in the village. Breakfast continental style, very good. Only 10 minute walk from the centre, lovely village on the Alsace wine trail. Lovely walks around too and plenty of places to taste wine. We caught the local bus back to Colmar train station which cost us €7.50 for two of us instead of the €35 euros to get there! Very clean and helpful friendly staff. Well recommended.

"Comfortable, quiet, nice placce"
pukindog, 26 Septembre 2015

Liked everything... Good location, nice room, quiet, nice bathroom, great shower, good a/c"...... Stayed 1 night, walked the three minutes to down for dinner.. .pleasent staff.... Quick check in.. Would go back

"Lovely hotel in great location"
b10cjl, 08 Septembre 2015

We stayed here from 23-26 August inclusive. The hotel is in a great location in what we thought was the prettiest town in the area. The room (112) seemed to have been recently modernised and was comfortable, if a bit small. The staff were very helpful staff and breakfast very good (€13 for full buffet, €6.50 for coffee & croissant at the bar). There was plenty of parking and a lovely pool which we were able to enjoy on a couple of days. The gym was adequate.

"Super Nice for a Chain Hotel"
Hills02, 27 Août 2015

Extremely clean, good sized room, and on-site parking This hotel is literally steps from the historical section Also, the hotel was easy to find. The reception staff was friendly and helpful with directions for the area. This is definitely a good location for touring the region-- easy to drive to other small towns on the route . In fact, we enjoyed it so much, we have made reservations there for our next trip!

"Good base for exploring Alsace ..."
RMAtkins, 21 Août 2015

Clean, fairly modern hotel next to a very picturesque village, easy to walk into. Lots (!) of tourists in the village but hotel was pleasantly quiet, even when full. Generous rooms with everything you need. Outdoor pool - unheated ! Would stay again.

"Great place during heat wave"
kgcon, 15 Août 2015

Stayed here for 3 nights with 2 of the days being about 38 Celsius (96-100 Fahrenheit) and fortunately they had good AC and a nice swimming pool. Comfortable beds, and an excellent breakfast, though it should have been included based on the price imo. Also conveniently located outside the old town gate so quiet and roomy. We also liked the restaurant patio for breakfast and drinks.

"Decent hotel"
kleinrichard, 12 Août 2015

Nice hotel with decent rooms just on the outside of Riquewihr and very close to the town center. The beds are a bit too soft for me but after a nice walk in the area they still served their purpose. Good breakfast buffet, friendly staff.

"An excellent hotel in a lovely town"
Alan H, 11 Août 2015

Very well positioned just outside the walls of Riquewihr, its really easy to walk into town, The room was superb and the swimming pool was lovely. Service was also excellent so we had nothing but praise for this hotel. Parking just outside the front door and a lift made access very easy.

"A happy surprise"
Patrick M, 09 Août 2015

When you are visiting Alsace for the first time the temptation will be to find a 16th century ' auberge ' reeking in charm - flower bedecked wooden balconies and perhaps storks nesting on the...

"Great Staff"
David M, 30 Mars 2015

The hotel is located outside the towns walls, but close enough to walk to the cobblestoned streets of the village center. There's ample parking. We found the staff to be extremely courteous and friendly. They were genuinely happy to have us there. Breakfast selections were varied and numerous.

"Hotel Schoenenberg Riquewihr"
Judith R, 13 Septembre 2014

We have stayed here twice, it is in a good location, outside the walls of the village of Riquewihr which is historic and interesting and pleasantly reduced of tourists in the evening. The hotel offers a good breakfast, an excellent swimming pool and backs on to vineyards.

"Very friendly, nice hotel"
Dick V, 31 Août 2014

Top location in Riquewihr, good wine, very friendly staff. From here you can explore the city of Colmar and the many pretty villages. The hotel feels very warm and friendly. Small and personal, actually

"Location & Quiet"
lrp77, 18 Août 2014

Incredible location tucked in the vineyards on the Alsatian Wine Route. Riquewihr is a charming town...hotel is just outside walls. Staff are friendly, rooms a bit small but charming and well laid out.

"A mots enjoyable stay"
alsace-museal, 23 Juillet 2014

The night in my comfortable bed was too short! I love the hotel, the woodwork, the view over the plain and the town (when I can get a room on that side of the building because from the other side you only see a slope covered with vineyards). The breakfast is more than you can eat and if you have the time you can enjoy it outside. And the personnel is friendly. Therefore nothing to complain about and I am looking forward to another opportunity to stay there.

"Dream in the green rolling hills of Alsace"
Edoardo M, 10 Juillet 2014

Beautiful high quality hotel at walking distance from one of the most beautiful villages of Alsace. Were there also last year but was not so satisfied; room was large and comfortable, clean and staff take care of the room. Wonderful breakfast with amazing fresh croissants, local products (including the world famous cheese Munster), fresh fruits, and everything you can desire. Free parking in a reserved lot, swimming pool, coffee maker and refrigerator in room. Every service run perfectly: our stay was really great!!! Price is in the higher range, but worth a while.

"very nice quiet hotel"
Linda H, 13 Juin 2014

We just came back from The Schoenenbourg hotel (june 2014), and it is a very nice place, you can walk to the center of the village (3 min.)it is near every villages around, quiet, nice staff, good restaurant just beside. We would certainly return.

"May 31 and June 1st stay"
Thomas E, 06 Juin 2014

We loved this hotel. It was so easy to find, had plenty of parking, our room was ready early, it was very clean and really an upgrade from 3 star. Restaurant was outstanding. We were with my brother and his wife and they felt the same way. Wished we had come to this hotel instead of the night of may 30th in Strasbourg. We took the little train tour of the town, walked the shopping district and enjoyed several restaurants for lunch and dinner. Altogether a wonderful experience.

"An enjoyable stay"
anglais2013, 21 Décembre 2013

The chambermaids did a fantastic job keeping our room clean and neat. Reception good, very polite and correct, but a smile would increase the rating. Paid an offer price that was good, the full rate gives my lower rating on rapport qualité/prix
