"Never again"

1
07/09/2018

We stayed here for one night on our way to Georgia as the rate seemed reasonable. We had to change rooms THREE times because rooms were dirty, beds were not made and smelled like a smoky motel. When I called the lobby the first time the receptionist hung up on me. (I later learned that her name was Ashley and according to other workers she does it quite often to customers.) Because of my troubles I was given a $20 discount but I would not even think of staying in a Best Western again.

"Ignorance in a life threatening accident from the staff/manager"

1
01/09/2018

The staff manager in the first day was rude since the time of check in in 28 June 2018 as can be confirmed from the records of the hotel's cameras. Our room number was 330. My wife and my kids were locked inside the elevator at 8:50 pm. My kids activated the alarm immediately while no action was taken from the hotel staff/ manager for 15 minutes until my kid found the emergency phone and called them but they also did not take any action for another 15 minutes. My wife then got a signal inside the elevator and called me. I realized what is happening and I went to the elevator to call them down. I found many residents of the hotel in the hallway who came out because of the alarm and most of them knew the story before I did. I noticed that my kids were screaming and jumping inside the lift, the cell phone of my wife was broken because of this. I talked to the manager but I found her very rude and she ignored me. I then called 911 after more than 40 minutes. The manager then provided a manual key and tried to open the elevator in the first floor and ignored me when I told her that they were in the third floor. Then she went to the second floor. I then became very upset and asked her to give me the key. I went to the third floor and I opened the door with the help of the resident of room 320. 911 arrived few minutes while I was on the line with them but it was the same time my family got out of the lift. My family were inside the elevator for more than an hour. A good part of the story was recorded on the cell phone and photos inside the elevator and outside it. Anyone can check the recorded videos of the hotel to see the ignorance and the unprofessional attitude of the hotel manager. I requested the manager to make a report or to give me a form to make a report but she refused which forced me to tell her that I will sue the hotel if she did not. She then told me that she cannot discuss anything and told me to talk to the general manager who was not available and did not respond before the next day at 10 am. The general manager expressed her appolagy and refunded the full payment for three nights but this was very little which did not even cover the cost of repairing the broken cell phone. I open dispute no. 1806294653 by using the official website of Best Western but the answer was that they cannot compensate me any further and it is up to me if I want to take it up further with a lawyer.

"Room was not clean"

1
30/08/2018

First off there was hair in the bathtub, some looked like pubic hair, there was small spots of mold on the shower tile, there was some trash on the floor by the ottoman, my husband was walking around the room in socks and ended up getting an old fail fingernail stuck to his sock.

"Safety Concerns"

2
13/08/2018

Let me start by saying that I when I come to town, I always stay here but not no more. In the middle of the night, I was woken up by the smoke detector in my room saying FIRE! I could smell a strong burning smell and realized it was coming from the AC unit. After rushing to cut it off, we called downstairs and there seemed to be no concern about the issue. I could hardly breath in the room and was scared to go back to sleep. The fire department did show up to check the room and then left. Not once did anybody from the hotel come check on us or call, we called them multiple times. We had to keep calling the front desk and they made it seem like an inconvenience for them because quote "they now had to do an incident report". There were not other rooms available so I was stuck in there until the sun came up. The smell lingered and against my better judgement I tried to go back to sleep. During checkout, the front desk had no idea what happened the night before and did not seem to care about my concerns. Needless to say, it is time to find a new hotel.

"Basic and clean "

3
04/08/2018

Decent clean affordable basically functional room for an overnight stay. Front desk Ashley was awesome and friendly. We did hav to move out of room #324 right away due to toilet running/malfunction. They moved us fairly quickly. Night staff did not answer phone and had to go down to report problem in person.

"Great stay in Raleigh."

04/08/2018

Overall, enjoyed our stay. The staff was very helpful. Our room was extremely clean and the air conditioning in the room worked great ( we like to have a very chilled room). We enjoyed the breakfast. The food was very good and the staff kept everything full (loved the pancake maker).

"Good Hotel"

Great location, great rate and friendly staff. I always stay here when I bring my college kid back to school over the past 3 years. Close to good restaurants on Capital Blvd. I would stay here again when I come back!

"Can you say incompetent?"

1
23/07/2018

First, front desk didn't show my Gold status in the Rewards program. Second, the first room assigned had a broken deadbolt. Asked front desk to have Engineering look at it when I left for lunch. Upon my return, they said nothing is wrong with it. They clearly never bothered to check, because it still didn't work. Went back to front desk to ask to change rooms. No apologies - no nothing. We move, switch keys. etc. Then, for the last hour, we've had people come and try to get into our room three times. Call the front desk and the idiot answering the phone says we aren't supposed to be in the room we are in. She says we are supposed to be in our original room. I then had to explain the whole story again about why we had to switch rooms. She said it was never changed in the computer, so they put someone else in our new room. Imbeciles. She said she'd fix it on her end, and no more people would be coming to try and get into our room. But who knows? Too many hotel choices in Raleigh to waste your time here. I'm Gold in Marriott, Sheraton and several other programs, and spend 100+ nights on the road, so I know how this is supposed to work.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to leave your concerns where our Management Team can work on our new staff Members Training. We extend our deepest apologies to you. Surely this must have been, at minimum, frustrating. While all concerns and matters brought to our attention are very important, we take matters regarding the safety of our guests and staff very seriously. The Best Western Raleigh where we are located in is considered one of the finest areas in Raleigh to visit, work and raise a family. Thank you again for your feedback.

"Family in town"

3
23/07/2018

Had family in town, gave up my bedroom at home for a relative who had spinal surgery and booked a night at this location. Also my sister was staying 2 nights. Ms. Jamie at the front desk was super nice and very helpful with making sure I had a room near my sister. Room was clean and comfortable. The internet didn't work but it was only for one night so it was no biggie (my sister's worked fine so I just assumed it was user error). The room had a nice terrace which we sat out on while a thunderstorm was passing. Bed was a little hard but my husband didn't seem to mind so I won't say it was uncomfortable.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
WOW! I Love to hear this!! We've always appreciated Jamie but now we have a higher regard for her after reading your post. Way to go Jamie! I will be sure to share with all staff! Thank you for sharing your experience and we look forward to your next visit.

"Convenient to everything."

19/07/2018

I was here on business, but enjoyed an evening swim at the pool. It got a bit crowded with kids and families but still okay. The breakfast was a complete hot breakfast which was nice. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean. It's right off the beltline so you can get anywhere quickly. There were a lot of people checked in at the hotel, it might have been full and one night some in there 20's were arriving late and were very noisy. I did have a few hairs in the shower upon check in late at night, but overall everyday the maids left the place very clean. My one complaint is with the staff. They were abrupt and not interested in my problem. When I told the front desk about the shower issue the next morning she said I should have said something sooner. She was quite snippy with me and brushed me off. One night I went to get a bath mat that was missing and the same woman told me I had one in the room and she held up a hand towel to show me what it looked like. I told her the bath mat I had was not a hand towel like that. She told me I was mistaken. I left and returned to my room and the next night I had a standard bath mat as usual. Maybe she was mistaken.

"Great place to stay"

4
16/07/2018

We had a concert in Raleigh and needed a place to stay at and Best Western also has a great place to go to. Service and rooms are always great. People are friendly and very helpful with the knowledge of rewards plan.

"IT IS NOT a new building and check in was unsure HOW to use BW travel card! REALLY?"

1
15/07/2018

BW offers travel cards with companies and it is basically a gift card to the hotel. The check in desk TOTALLY screwed up our bill. They used our gift card, however, didn't apply it to our account, THEN charged our credit card the total bill. So after 30 minutes on hold with travel card services, I had to call the hotel. Called the hotel and no manager there to handle THEIR error.............So more time on the phone tomorrow. POLICE on property for hours patrolling the hallways. Strange, scary & seemed unsafe. The rooms were paper thin walls and could hear next door people for hours into the night.

"I just wouldn't return."

1
15/07/2018

Okay for starters this is rated COMPLETELY different online than on yelp. (Don't worry I plan to make this same review on google so that way people can really read what they are getting into.) I found this place on a whim as we decided last minute we were going to a concert in Raleigh and instead of making the two hour drive here and back in one day. This was supposed to be a three star best western and it had great reviews, so we decided to book here. As soon as we pulled up I realized that it was nothing like the internet search I pulled up. It's tucked away in a weird corner and their sign for the entrance is so small that we almost missed it. As you enter you will see several posted signs about "leaving your car unattended will result in owners being 100% responsible for their vehicle." Well hello, who gets a hotel room to sleep in their car. This sign was placed to relieve the hotel of responsibility if your car is broken into which I understand fully.. but seeing at least 7 of these signs in a tiny parking lot was not comforting. The interior looked like it hasn't been fixed up or properly detailed in quite a few years. When we got to our room, we noticed stains on the bed, soap that was left in the shower, and stains on the headboard. (Will attach photos) Look, I'm normally queen of Prissy-ness but since it was literally a place for us to rest our heads I didn't feel like reaching out to the front office at the time, however since we are Best Western members I feel like this stay was hella sub-par for our normal standards and I will reach out to corporate. The AM breakfast wasn't too bad, typical hotel food but it does the job. I will say they could at least get better coffee, that crap they served was TERRIBLE. I mean is Folgers really too expensive? If we were to have stayed longer than the 20 hours we were there I would have changed hotels, but it just wasn't worth it at the time. Just a heads up for all those people out there looking for a hotel, I would NOT recommend this one.

"Very central location"

3
13/07/2018

We booked a room for 2 nights on the first leg of our plan to explore North Carolina this summer. The location is really good especially if you want to do the NC Museums and the historical Legislative Building. The front office staff very pleasant and helpful. The room was good but I was surprised to note that there was no refrigerator or a safe provided. When I mentioned it to the receptionist I was given a vague answer... Our room faced the main thoroughfare and so it was a little noisy in the night - the wailing sounds of police cars and ambulance sirens in the middle of the night were a minus. .Aside from that, the breakfast served was substantial and the staff very attentive - one didn't have to wait for the food to be replenished. Overall a good bargain.

"Clean, quiet, budget friendly"

3
11/07/2018

We booked two rooms for an overnight stay. Our rooms were in the annex behind the main building. The rooms were large, clean, and quiet. Breakfast was typical for a budget friendly hotel and the dunkin donuts right beside the hotel was easily accessible. Hotel staff was friendly, parking lot was well lit and visible. Surrounding area was a little shady when we ventured out to find Walmart and pizza, but the grounds of the hotel seemed safe.

"Well run, well positioned and good value"

4
01/06/2018

I was impressed with this hotel as it was good value for what is a clean and friendly establishment. The positioning is excellent - just off the interstate and within a couple minutes' walk of a bus route to the downtown. Whilst it is not upmarket, it is fairly priced and well run.

"Short stay"

3
21/05/2018

Hello. There isn't much I can say about The Best Western because I only stayed overnight. I didn't appreciate the early morning wake up by the staff trying to enter my room to clean it if I was due to leave around 11am or 12pm. I didn't return to the room until early morning just to be awakened early. They should have a printout of whomever is checking out by 11am or 12pm and should not disturb them to clean their room until afterwards.

"Great hotel!"

5
18/05/2018

I think this is one of the better Best Western hotels in the area. Especially if you want to stay close to downtown. Be mindful that this is off of one of the busiest streets in the city, which is Capitol Boulevard.

"High Recommend"

5
18/05/2018

Very nice hotel. Room was good, grounds were nicely maintained and staff was very friendly. Oh yes and let's not forget the pool which was on point. One person that really stands out though was Ms. Donna at breakfast. She was so nice and so friendly. even made a point to make sure everything was ok and that there was nothing else i needed. Thank you to Best Western & Ms. Donna for an enjoyable stay. i will definitely return as well as recommend.

"Family Vacation"

5
18/05/2018

What a great hotel. The rooms were very nice, the environment was nice, the staff was nice however I think what we enjoyed the most was breakfast (and not just because it's complimentary) lol. It was Chef Donna. She was super nice and friendly. I really enjoyed our conversation. She shared different events that were going on around town that she thought our family might enjoy. So thank you Chef Donna and Best Western for making our stay great. We will definitely be back.

"Nice overnight stay "

17/05/2018

Traveling through Raleigh and booked after reading reviews and because of low price available. Pleased with friendliness of front desk and the room was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was good. Overall very good value.

"Great Experience"

5
07/05/2018

My family and I had a very pleasant experience with this establishment although we did run in to a minor issue, the manager Amy couldn't have been nicer and immediately took care of the problem. Also Ms. Donna who works in the complimentary breakfast area couldn't have been nicer. I was even running a bit late for breakfast and she made sure to check with me to see if there was anything else I might want or need. She was wonderful.

"No shower chair."

3
05/05/2018

I checked into hotel and went to my room. Upon arrival in my room I realized there was no shower bench(I am in a wheelchair). I called front office and was informed there was no shower chair on premises. My wife was visiting a friend when I checked in. She went of office and was also told there was no shower chair(bench). The following day while checking out, manager informed my wife that there was a shower chair which clerk did not make available to me.

"Comfortable easy"

24/04/2018

Overall nice for what I needed it for. It was a place that was close to where I needed to be. The check-in process at 3am was great. The bed was fine and the room was clean. My only thing was that you can tell was the tile work needed to be updated along with the carpet and drapes.

I was checked in by Tyreek. He is a very nice young man, and very helpful. The rooms are large and the bed is comfortable. It was very clean and convenient to downtown. I enjoyed the breakfast. I would recommend staying at Best Western Raleigh north-downtown.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review

"Disappointed"

2
08/04/2018

We arrived in a pouring rain and were directed to enter a separate building next to the main one. There was no sign to direct us to the entrance. The staff was not helpful and there was no map of the buildings to help us. The room smelled of smoke and there were cigarette burns on the bedspread. There was a person screaming for help and the police arrived in our hallway.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience we do use all feedback guests give us to make improvements to our hotel. I am glad to hear safety is our utmost importance and the Police Officer was able to help a situation beyond the hotels control. We would like if next time you were in Raleigh you would give us another chance. Again, Thank you for your feedback

Spent one night in hotel. On arrival we were met by a really bubbly receptionist who set the tone for our stay. Spacious, comfotrable clean rooms. Very good breakfast with ample selection of breakfast foods. Got room twoards the back of the hotel which was nice and quiet.

"A nice hotel"

4
31/03/2018

I went to this hotel on my Contiki tour, so I didn't actually choose this hotel. But it was a really nice hotel. I would recommend this hotel because the rooms were clean, had nice beds and pillows, and the staff were friendly.

"Creepy - Avoid"

1
25/03/2018

When we arrived, the guy at the front desk acted like we interrupted his day. There is more than one building here, and there was no map, so we had trouble finding our room. The room was musty and smelled of cigarette smoke. There were cigarette burns in the sash at the bottom of the bed. The coffee maker was filthy. There is no guide to amenities, so you have to go on an expotition to find a ice maker. We stayed on a Saturday night, and in the evening, we heard a female voice in the hall scream "Stay away from me." A short time later, we heard knocking on a door in the hallway and a male voice said "Raleigh Police." At least the police got here promptly! The internet was miserably slow. Google maps would take a few seconds to draw the map every time you zoomed a notch. My web browser warned that there was a mismatch in the security certificate for the website where you enter the password for the hotel wifi connection, so you have to force the connection in spite of the warning. There is something fishy going in the rating process of this property. The shortcomings are blatantly obvious. How can TripAdvisor rate this facility as a "3 star" hotel? We have stayed at many Best Western hotels, and this place is fathoms below our typical experience. BW has seriously damaged its reputation by putting its name on this mess. Don't stay here!

"Great Customer Services"

01/03/2018

My husband came to Raleigh for work. He stayed at the Best Western in Raleigh and left an item in the room. He called when he got home. Tyrek and Niki did there very best to help us find the item and mailed it back to our home immediately. That is what I call true customer services. Thanks again guys for all your help.

Big rooms than what I had expected. Had enough space to move around without bumping into my roommate. Everything was clean and up to par except few plumbing problems. Had some noisy neighbours but that's not their fault. Otherwise from that. Good place to stay over from a busy days work.

"Good Hotel with an Outstanding Hot Breakfast"

4
03/01/2018

This was a very good hotel. Rooms were beautifully clean and had balconies, which is a welcome change from the now-American-standard sealed windows (supposedly so that people cannot throw themselves out?) The breakfast was excellent – eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, cereals, breakfast potatoes. I don't think I have seen such a good breakfast at a midscale hotel before this stay. Coffee was superb and the orange juice perfectly chilled. The bed was firm and VERY comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful – especially when my keys did not work literally every other day!! Located in downtown Raleigh, the hotel represents very good value for money and is ideally placed – 8 minutes to downtown. My rating is at the top level due to the overall experience over two weeks. VERDICT: EXCELLENT VALUE, SUPERB BREAKFAST. REAL WHEAT BREAD!

If you are looking for just one overnight stay, this may be a good value hotel for you. But, room AC system might be noisy in some rooms. Breakfast is not bad but not four stars quality either. Close to highways but making left turn may take a while in rush hours.

"Good overnight stay near downtown"

4
03/01/2018

Stayed here on my way to Savannah. The hotel is conveniently located near Rt 440 close to downtown. The rooms are big, nice and clean for 2 queen bed suites. The breakfast spread was decent. 2 minor issues are that the suites are in a separate building than the main hotel and there are no elevators for 2nd floor. But for the price it's a good overnight stay. The hotel staff was very helpful.

Stayed here for 3 days while in town on family business. Great location for our needs. The property is a bit dated but completely functional. We found our room to be quite large, oversized in fact. Nice. Fast Wi-fi. Great Value. Very comfortable beds. Will return when back in the area. Recommended

"Quite a nice stay"

4
04/12/2017

This was quite a good hotel, the rooms were spacious with great comfy double beds. The bathroom was very clean, however the bathroom door needs to be fixed as it rubbed against the tiles and made a horrible sound every time you closed and opened the door. The breakfast was quite good as well, offered continental and a hot breakfast. The pool was quite disgusting but I think it probably wasn't cleaned as it was quite cold and no one would be using it, but still it wasn't a great thing to look at from your room. However all in all it was quite an adequate room.

Full credit must be given to the office staff. When we arrived on Friday afternoon there was a billing problem. They promptly & politely helped get that resolved. Very professional. Now to my family's overnight. We we're awoken at 2:00 am to very loud partiers. This lasted until 4:30 when the partiers finally loaded up their cars & drove off. We called security, as I understood others did. Waste of time. Our room & the hall stunk of marijuna smoke. I figured the family was going to get a contact buzz. Added value for staying there? Parking lot was trashed behind the building, had to kick the vodka & OJ bottles out of the way on the stairs when leaving. I must say, the room was clean & very well kept. The overnight attention at this place though is bad enough that I would never recommend staying here. There are way better places in the Triangle!

I really like this hotel and stay here whenever I'm in Raleigh. It is clean the facility is well kept and the staff is a pleasure to deal with. The breakfast is among the best anywhere and the room is comfortable. This is not a fancy facility but it is more than adequate in every respect. One thing I noticed, for example, is that connecting to the internet requires a password which offers some minimum level of security.

Was not my favorite hotel. I didn't like that the suites were separate from main hotel. I did not like the tv size. I thought the rooms could use some more updating. However, internet was good and breakfast was ok.

Great Stay... rooms were clean and the service was great... internet was not easy to access... could not use it at All. This particular hotel was non-smoking so it sucked for hubby. Will stay again as long as internet is working

05/11/2017

An older hotel BUT totally up to date, modernized, spotlessly clean. Wonderful breakfast and very quiet despite the place being sold out and bus loads of folks staying there. Very accessible to I440 and only ten minutes from downtown. This is NOT a downtown hotel as advertised.

02/11/2017

Showed up late not knowing if they had a room available or not but they did. The staff was awesome and the room was spotless and looked brand new. This is the best place I have ever stayed in and for a price way below what a room of that caliber should fetch......$80 with tax.

The location was ok. The room was smelly. We sprayed Lysol to get rid of the stale smell. Wanted another set of towels did not get them. The fair was average. The breakfast could have offer more meat products I don't eat pork.

Breakfast was delicious, with many choices. Very clean hotel and rooms. Staff was very helpful and respectful. Lobby decor and room decor was fabulous. Me and my family really enjoyed our stay and will be returning.

"Take your money and stay somewhere else."

2
22/10/2017

The only nice person I encountered was the young man at the front desk. The breakfast lady needs to be retrained. The first room smelled really bad of mold and had 2 dehumidifiers. The 2nd room smelled a little better but the air wasn't cold. The first floor of the "suite building" (where Ice machine was) had such a stinch I am thankful I wasn't on that floor, I would have slept in my car.

"No fridge. No microwave."

3
20/10/2017

No refrigerator or microwave in room. Room smell like insecticides. No real blanket on bed only sheets. A hassel to get extra towels. Breakfast was impressive. Safe location. Dunkin donuts next door. WI-FI. Computer in lobby.

"Great deal"

5
17/10/2017

Stayed for only one night, very good price. Room was clean and large. Breakfast good, breakfast room not overcrowded. Easy access to Raleigh. Free parking. Good all round and would return. Wifi good in rooms and public areas

"Great Value for the Price"

4
15/10/2017

This Best Western was a very good value. Only about a 7 minute drive from downtown Raleigh, it was very convenient. Our room was clean, The free hot breakfast had a good variety of items and the coffee was good (thought there is a Dunkin Donuts right next door). Jaime checked us in and was very pleasant and helpful. In fact, all of the staff that we interacted with were very pleasant and helpful. Our keys kept getting de-magnatized and we had stop by the front desk at least once a day. Nothing fancy but our needs are pretty simple and for our quick trip it did the job well.

"cheap and close"

3
05/10/2017

cheap price, bedding torn in multiple places, covered by a duvet, and very thin. clean in lobby and outside. breakfast was good with good selection. beds ok to sleep in. staff was polite. hallway smelled like old mildew, needs new carpet

"Good stay."

5
03/10/2017

We had a good stay. The balcony was large and clean, but my room overlooked the trash cans and laundry room. The beds were comfortable, we slept well and the rooms are spacious. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was filling. Best thing about this location are the variety of shops in the surrounding area.

"Go to hotel in Raleigh"

29/09/2017

We went to Raleigh to see our son's deployment ceremony and spend time with him before he left. We were so pleased. The lobby was very welcoming and the front desk staff was professional and pleasant. Room was clean and everything worked as intended. Breakfast was delicious. Plus the location was great and center to most things. If we get back to Raleigh, this is where we'll stay.

"Outstanding value"

4
29/09/2017

Nice, comfortable, clean hotel. Great location with free easy parking. Good free wifi, breakfast, and coffee around the clock. Next door to 24 hr DD useful for a change of scenery and snacks. Outstanding and flexible housekeeping staff. Personable reception staff and manager extremely helpful in resolving a left-behind clothing issue. Very good for business and casual travel. If need 4 star hotel go elsewhere and enjoy but realize may be wasting your precious dollars.

"Worth Every Penny"

5
26/09/2017

I like paying less for a hotel stay as long as that stay includes good service, a clean room, and modern conveniences. So, my stay at Best Western exceeded my expectations. It was conveniently located to where I needed to be during the day, was within striking distance of fine shopping and dining, had easy access to major roadways, and offered me a comfortable bed, clean facilities, and plenty of room to move around, enjoy TV or conversation, and great service.

"Clean hotel"

3
25/09/2017

This property is clean and well maintained. The rooms were nice. For some reason they let a motorcycle club hold a rally on the property, which does not really create a good environment for children. There was loud profanity, drinking, and loud music. The room was clean, but a little dated. It was well maintained and everything in the room worked. Our room was off from the main building which was a little inconvenient.

"Experience on Staying"

5
25/09/2017

Everyone was extremely nice and accommodating. Felt vey welcomed and would stay again anytime. Kudos to management. Breakfast was excellent and as great as any restaurant. Compliments to the Chef. Great variety of choices and great tasting food.

"Great time for my bday"

5
24/09/2017

I stayed for my bday and I enjoyed it. Clean rooms. Comfy bed. Check in was a breeze. Fast check out option. Great professionalism from the staff. Very helpful as well. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

"Summary - I find this hotel to be below average. Reason being overall property and rooms clean to standard I am use to."

2
11/09/2017

Conduct a deep cleaning of the hotel and rooms. Update the rooms and property with a good maintenance program. Upgrade the breakfast to the quality and degree of choices that I am accustomed to seeing in the other best westerns I've stayed in. The outside pool was found to have leafs and debris in it. the weekend was a holiday weekend and hotel mgt. did send around a letter stating the staff and service was limited but did offer to let the desk know if anything was needed.

"Good Location, Easy Access to Raleigh"

5
29/08/2017

I was in town visiting friends and the hotel was located in an area with plenty of restaurants and easy access to Raleigh. Easy on and off the beltline and close to downtown. Nice pool and roomy suites. Breakfast assortment was nice and well prepared. Very helpful staff.

"Odor and Roaches"

1
28/08/2017

My 3rd time staying at this location, it was not a pleasant one. Roaches in my room and a bad odor. I thought my 3rd stay was going to be a charm, but I was very disappointed. The price was good but not my stay.

"BW hotel"

5
25/08/2017

This hotel is a great place to stay it is close to interstates and food eatin locations. The employees helped me at checkin and check out love this hotel. Last stay I left my usb in the computer and they held it for me until I returned.

"4:00 PM"

5
25/08/2017

Good value...Good service. We were upgraded to a suite with our card. Security was excellent. Good breakfast. Food was hot, well prepared and presented with plenty of variety. Rooms and buildings are clean and quiet. Clean pool water was clean. Close to services and a good mix of restaurants.

"Handicap Parking slots go to friends apparently. Not enforced"

3
22/08/2017

Good rooms, clean and quiet for the price. Getting off and on to US Highway 1 is very difficult due to traffic and no run up onto property. Good breakfast and friendly staff. Non enforcement of Handicap Parking is an owner and BW Regional Manager decision, not local staff.

"Will not stay again."

2
21/08/2017

The room needs to be renovated. No fridge or microwave available. The halls and room smelled like smoke. The overall stay was conveniently located near stores and activities. you have to walk outside to get into the lobby. The entryways in the rear are not lighted well nor feel safe.

"The Staff Is Like Family"

18/08/2017

I loved Maury who checked me in he was nice and funny, all the front desk staff made me happy. The rooms and breakfast are really good and they are really cheap but with good quality. Most hotels like this cost a lot more and have snotty staff.

18/08/2017

This is a great value when compared with hotels in or close to downtown Raleigh. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the free breakfast is a plus. What's more, this is hundreds less than downtown hotels.

17/08/2017

We were in town for a concert. That said, we didn't want to drop a pretty penny for a room we were literally going to sleep at after the show. Central location to downtown and the amphitheater. Great welcoming front desk service! Quick and efficient. Our room was updated, in comparison to some previous reviews. Additionally, it was spacious, comfortable and, well, perfect for the location and price! We will happily stay here for future concerts!!

"Meets the basic requirements"

3
16/08/2017

Meets the basic requirements at a reasonable price. Amenities are limited but Internet & parking is free. The staff is incredibly friendly. The breakfast bar is basic but fresh and the dining area is clean. Feels very much like a motel – buildings are separated from the lobby.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review

"Best Western Experience"

2
15/08/2017

We chose this place because of the connivence of being close to downtown Raleigh. The location of the hotel was the best part of our experience. When we were first greeted, the staff was pretty rude. We are both in customer service so we were very disappointed about the customer service from this hotel. There was no "southern hospitality"at this hotel. We check into our room and the room smells musky and damp. The pillows were the size of throw couch pillows. We asked for two more pillows, and the guy at the front desk said he would check and have the maid bring us some. We never received any pillows. We asked the next day, and they said they had no extra pillows. A little strange for a hotel not to have extra pillows. The breakfast buffet was nothing to rave about, everything was pretty bland. Everyday our key cards were unactivated, and we needed to go to the front desk to activate them. Which I still don't understand why that happened. We ended up checking out a day early and the guy at the front desk didn't even bother to ask why we were leaving earlier than our check out day. We stayed here because Expedia gave this hotel 4/5 stars. You get what you pay for for this hotel. Very disappointed in this hotel and the service.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for being our guest and for taking the time to share your experience. However, we are truly sorry our hotel did not meet your needs. My wife and I stayed here for 1 night. Wow...The whole hallway smelled like POT..The air conditioning was awful. Turn on High and still blows like low.Set on 66° hoping it would cool off. No such luck, still 74°and humid....

12/08/2017

We stay here with our 10 month baby for a night. It had pretty clean comfy room, properties were renewed and room was nice decorated. staffs were kind and polite.. the only problem was entrance, it was strange and a little far from breakfast restaurant.

"Dangerous & Smoking at a Nonsmoking Hotel"

2
07/08/2017

Getting into and out of this hotel is dangerous. I felt like I risked my life, staying at this hotel. People smoke outside the entry way to hotel. Have to walk through second hand smoke! Butts on the ground, gross! Breakfast was meh! Tasteless, congested layout and can easily be skipped. Suite room was nice and roomy. I enjoyed the extra space, but thought it was weird that they were in a separate building from the hotel. I did feel unsafe here. Found out that, there is no security during the week. The pool was dirty and I felt unsafe to swim. Look for another hotel, in Raleigh.

"A little below average"

3
06/08/2017

The room was clean, the bathroom was clean as well however, the bathroom is dated with exception of granite countertop. The beds were firm which I like however, the pillows are too thick and firm which is something that I don't like. Breakfast was good and kept stocked.

"Fantastic Property"

5
06/08/2017

The hotel is located right near major arteries. The property looks like it was recently renovated and has a fresh and clean feeling in the lobby, breakfast area, and rooms. The staff is very engaging and welcoming. I've stayed here a few times and would highly recommend this property.

"Service, Service, Service....excellent!"

5
27/07/2017

Tony took care of us on very short notice when the hotel we were staying at in Cary had a problem with the pool. Tony was perfect. He managed to get us exactly the rooms we wanted, quickly and with a smile while taking care of many other things simultaneously. Although I didn't get the name of the woman who took care of us when we left she was also wonderful. The hotel room itself was a step up from where we had been staying in Cary. We got a suite for less than the price of our previous hotel room; a real suite with a closing bedroom door. Pool was nice, coffee was always available with half & half.

"Great stay at reasonably priced hotel!!"

5
27/07/2017

My husband and I went to a concert in Raleigh and decided to stay overnight. I chose the Best Western because of its price and good reviews and I was only looking for somewhere to sleep. The price was around the same as other hotels that I have stayed at before and consider "cheap" (i.e. dirty, poorly maintained, unconcerned staff, etc) but I took a chance and I'm glad I did. The staff were extremely friendly, the room was practically immaculate and the hotel was quiet and well maintained. We did stay on a Tuesday night so I'm not sure what the weekend would be like there, but we were very happy with our stay.

"It doesn't seem safe."

2
27/07/2017

The reason I'm giving a bad review is because I did not feel safe at all. When I got at the hotel at 11pm to do the check in the lobby was locked and I had to stand outside of the hotel doing the checking in through a tiny window. I stayed at several hotels throughout the Triangle area and this was the only one that guests are not allowed inside of the lobby between 10pm-7am. Even after the guy at the desk confirmed that I had a reservation, he did not let me in. Besides that there was a police car parked next to the hotel and the cop was walking around, which gave me the impression that it was not a safe place. To top it off, the door lock of my room did not work and the latch was busted with the screws coming off. In the morning several guests standing by the lobby door waiting for the door to open. This is not good practice at all. Breakfast was delicious, the staff was very friendly and the room was clean. But I'm all about safety and I won't be staying there again.

"Great Room good price friendly staff..... I had one issue though"

4
26/07/2017

My room was #118. The room was very clean and I liked the location. There is a Duncan Donuts next door. I enjoyed my stay and would have given it five stars but when I went to the breakfast slightly late the lady who was closing it down was extremely rude when I asked if I could get some orange juice. I did not respond in kind.

"Tony made it suck"

1
23/07/2017

The hotel was nice enough and the rooms had comfortable beds but how the issue with the reservation was handled by the front desk clerk Tony was what set the mood and it just stained the whole experience. We had an issue because the person that booked the trip was injured before the trip and couldn't make it but everyone else could so he called up to add one of us onto the room so we could still check in under the reservation. When he called the front desk clerk answered and while trying to straighten everything out with the room the front desk clerk hung up on him. He called back and asked for a manager and the same person answered the phone and said there was no manager on at the time, just him. He asked if the clerk hung up or was disconnected and the clerk admitted to hanging up and started with an attitude to him. After the issue was straightened out the rest of us was told about what happened. I would hope that this was an isolated incident and other factors were at work but still that experience is what made the experience so poor.

"Easy one night stay"

3
19/07/2017

This hotel is easy to get in and out of. The front desk staff is always pleasant be they offer a free hot breakfast. It's a older property but overall they do a nice job with keeping it clean. The bed is awesome!

"It was great"

4
18/07/2017

Kinda wish you guys would work it out with money network, but other then that it was a okay stay. I can't complain I stay here at least once a year. Also if you don't want what they have there, there is a dunken dounuts right next to it!

Older hotel but clean. They have rooms in the back in which I thought were apartments.Swimming pool outside . Restaurants not too far. Police security was seen on sight. The beds are not comfortable and pillows were not good.

"SO SO stay"

3
15/07/2017

The stay at Best Western Raleigh North Downtown was not as nice as other Best Western hotels we've stayed in. Our room was damp until we turned on the AC and there was no fridge in the room for the bottled water we received as rewards members. That was a nice gift to receive two bottled waters and some snacks but would have been better to have the water chilled since it is the middle of summer. The checkin day was very humid. At first the manager acted like she knew nothing about the discount so I told her that I have already received an email for my discount since I had stayed at BW two weeks ago on another trip. When I said summer promotion then she understood. The breakfast area was small and felt a bit congested. The breakfast was okay, again not the best or what I expect from BW hotels. NO fitness center though....though it is free to BW I had to drive to Lifetime fitness 5 minutes down the road to get my cardio in. I did not use the pool for this short stay. I would consider staying at a different BW next time in Raleigh even though this was a great value it is also a bit below average in my opinion.

"Missed the mark"

2
13/07/2017

We stayed here for a night on our way through Raleigh. The carpet was dirty as was the bathroom. We had four guests but only three towels and then waited 1 hour for another towel. Actually, we didn't wait, we chased down the housekeeping cart and asked for one. The bathroom counter was recently updated, but the chipping floor and base tile is still there. There were dead bugs in the shower. Would not stay here again, plenty of other options in this area.

"Deb's moments"

I would recommend this location it is quiet, spacious parking, breakfast environment clean, food appetizing, rooms clean and comfortable, location near many other eateries..staff very friendly, helpful

"Great stay!"

4
09/07/2017

Tony was awesome! Hot breakfast buffet, cold AC, friendly staff, pool was sparkling clean, patios and balconies that give you additional entry/exit to your room, if the water pressure had been up to par, it would have been 5 stars.

"suite deal"

5
30/06/2017

Was driving from Atlanta and started to feel tired and got a great deal on hotels.com and all that was left was a suite at a economical price. At that point I just wanted to get some sleep but was glad the rate was within budget. Checked in and was welcomed to a wonderful large suite and just went to sleep. Very clean, secure, ample parking, next to a Dunkin Donuts, Holiday Inn, and easy access to highways, restaurants, shopping, gas stations, and the like. Great service with somewhat of an attitude but no worries-it just says a lot about their character so no big deal at all. Stay was great, clean, value was exceptional, and was well rested!

my son will be attending collage in Raleigh and this hotel is one of the best hotel in the area to me. and the breakfast was the best. the staff was very knowable about the area and when i needed help printing on the computer they provided he did not hesitate to walk over and help me. the rooms are very clean free from dust and smells great. i am looking forward to staying at this hotel for my next visit.

The staff was very helpful. I forgot some amenities and the front desk gladly handed me what I needed. My family and I will definitely be back. The breakfast was very delicious. And hot the staff made sure to replenish any items that needed to be refilled. Very delicious

"A very pleasant place to stay"

19/06/2017

My wife and I had friends to visit in the Raleigh area, and stayed at the Best Western. This was our first visit here. We found the room to be very comfortable, including the bed, and the staff to be very warm and friendly. We spent two days here, and found that room service did an excellent job cleaning our room after our first day. I was a little concerned when I parked my car and saw the sign that said, "Park at your own risk." I didn't see any security at the motel, so I don't specifically know about any problems. Location is right on US 1 near the Raleigh beltway, so it is convenient in terms of going into and out of Raleigh.

"VISITING FAMILY"

14/06/2017

The overall room was not bad at all. Bed was comfy. Linens, washcloths and towels were clean. Curtains was a little stained. The pullout couch on the other hand was horrible!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't recommend anyone to sleep on that filth!!! It looked like it was laying in a dumpster before the hotel got it. It was nasty, dirty, stains galore. DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This hotel hit the trifecta - dirty room, noisy room, cars vandalized. Staff was nice. With so many choices in Raleigh, staying here is just asking for trouble. Chair in room was torn and stuffing was coming out. Wife's socks were black after walking on floor. Air conditioner was incredibly noisy. We asked for another room. Were transferred to the building in back and to the right. Entirely better experience. We were happy until cars in our group were vandalized. No video surveillance.

"Business Stay"

02/06/2017

I stayed at this Best Western due to its location to our office. The check in was quite easy. The staff were extremely helpful and were very polite. The hotel is two separate buildings which at first was a little disquieting, but it actually was not a big issue. The room was clean and looked to have been recently updated with new furniture. The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom appeared to have been recently updated as well. It was clean and well lit. The carpet appeared to be new. The room was quiet with little to no outside noises as the building was a good distance from the road. Breakfast offered the typical choices for a free breakfast. Eggs, potatoes, sliced ham, cereal, oatmeal. All of the food was presented well and was hat. The breakfast area was clean. Overall, I was very pleased with the stay and will stay there again when I visit our Raleigh Office.

"WONDERFUL CUSTOMER SRVC & CLEAN ROOM"

28/05/2017

My experience was wonderful and pleasant, My room smelled good and was clean.... But the highlight of my stay was at check in, As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by Tony the front desk agent, he had the most gorgeous smile... He was polite and so well mannered, He went beyond his job duties with explaining to me the room types and prices and he even helped me with my bags.. We had a wonderful conversation about everything. I'm a manager of a hotel and I would love to have him at my property but he made sure to tell me that he is happy with his CMC Family. But I would definitely come back to this hotel again in the future.

"Smelly room"

23/05/2017

Room smelled like stale garbage and body odor. Body hair in tub and floor. Staff very pleasant and breakfast good but would not stay here again. Was granted a late check out to allow for quick turn around after an early meeting the next day though. Still not going to be back.

BWRaleigh, Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Our apologies for the room not meeting your expectations. If you had made us aware of the issues with the room we would have moved you to another room. "Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel"

23/05/2017

I didn't think I would be staying at super nice hotel based on the price paid per night, I pre-booked two months out and got a great rate via Expedia. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall experience at this Best Western. Very clean room, great breakfast, near to downtown.

"Pleasant and comfortable place to stay"

20/05/2017

Friendly staff that helped efficiently and directed us to a good restaurant. Room feels good, fine bed, clean, no noise from neighbouring rooms. Breakfast is a good start of the day, though the space may get a bit cramped.

"Great stay in Raleigh"

17/05/2017

We have a project in Raleigh and have been staying at the Best Western since day one. Great experience! Great service! And very accommodating while here. We have been holding hostage 8 rooms for 2 month and can only imagine the nightmare with reservations but they never complained and remained professional. I cannot say enough about them...

BWRaleigh, Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to having you as a Guest in the future.

"No Night Security"

3
15/05/2017

Everything about the room was good except for no hot water in bathroom sink. The last night there the fire alarms went off at 3:00 a.m. and people left their rooms. there was no explanation for the alarms and when my wife went to the front desk, it was closed. no one was there, it is unacceptable to leave a sold out hotel unattended and without security.

BWRaleigh, Manager at Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
My apologies for the hotel not meeting your expectations. We take all aspects of your stay seriously, especially customer safety. At the time your wife came to the front office our associate was checking the alarm situation to ensure that everything was being taken care of.

"Great hotel and customer service"

10/05/2017

Highly recommend this hotel. Great customer service, clean comfortable rooms and good breakfast. Location is very close to the Raleigh Duke hospital and convenient to shopping, restaurants, etc. Very nice hotel.

"Disappointed"

2
07/05/2017

I was just disappointed. The first room reeked of mildew and all metal trim was rusted. The second room smelled unfavorable but I was unwilling to complain again. The internet was strong and the service was average.

"It wasn't worth the money"

2
07/05/2017

I wish I could get a refund for it! The room smelled like weed I lost money in the vending machine paid a dollar for a bottle of water that I can by on my own for about 50 cents it was way over priced for the service I got

"Waste"

15/04/2017

The suites in the back are a JOKE. weed loud music roaches in the shower food in the fridge. Thank God I had my lysol. Capital blvd is just horrible. Waste of money. Ill continue to stay in rtp and catch a lyft down town

"Mattress was like concrete slab"

1
15/04/2017

I could barely sleep due to the excessively hard mattress. The Hotel itself was basic, stark and minimalist but clean, quiet and safe. The location was not attractive but easy to find and a short drive to the downtown center. Staff was friendly and eager to please.

"REvamp your employees"

12/04/2017

will not come back due to people smoking in the hallways and employees and guest smoking in the stair wells. the yelling and hollering of the next door person while his person walks in hallway smoking a cig

"Not overly impressed"

2
17/03/2017

I was initially assigned a room that reeked of cigarette smoke and although the gentleman at the front desk was nice & worked quickly to re assign a room, I was not impressed with the room or the breakfast

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. My apologies for the room not meeting your expectations or from the sound of it ours either. "quick visit to Raleigh"

5
16/11/2016

We are in the process of relocating to Raleigh, NC and needed something close to downtown and that wasn't too expensive. We found a great deal at this hotel so we booked. I have no complains, the building is well kept and the housekeepers do a great job cleaning the rooms. Everyone was friendly and helpful not that I was expecting less from people from the south. If you are looking for something cheap and close to downtown I definitely recommend this hotel.

"Clean room. Good rates. Full free breakfast and Wifi"

"Hockey trip"

30/10/2016

Great mid level hotel for our trip to Raleigh to see a hockey game at the PNC arena. Room had 2 queens and a sleep sofa, more than enough room for me and the 2 kids. Complimentary breakfast was well stocked and included eggs, pancakes and bacon. Overall a great choice for anyone looking for value lodging in the Raleigh area.

"Cheap, clean, good service"

4
29/10/2016

The hotel was very reasonably priced, not modernly decorated but everything you need. Our room was very clean and the AC unit was very nice. Not loud at all! i was very pleased. The bed was moderate, but I slept very well. The whole family did. Service was nice and responsive. We had a problem with our TV and when we called, the person was very nice and someone came right up and fixed it with no complaint. Breakfast was fine, enough to get you going. Cold options, cereal and yogurt.

"Pleasant Surprise"

5
25/10/2016

I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet this motel was. Downtown Raleigh is a busy place, and this motel was on a major thoroughfare. Still, the motel was set back far enough from the road that we could have been in a small town for all the traffic noise we heard. The breakfast was excellent and offered more than the standard motel continental pastries one usually sees in motel free breakfasts. The room was super clean! I have severe allergies, and there wasn't a speck of dust to tickle my nose. The room smelled fresh, and the bathroom was clean and stocked with plenty of towels.

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to having you as a Guest in the future.

"Raleigh Tour"

3
17/10/2016

Traveled to Raleigh for a visit to a couple of schools in the area. I didn't know the area so selected a hotel that was reasonably priced, and this Best Western certainly fit the bill. It is an average hotel, for the price. It wasn't particularly clean, not really dirty - somewhere in between. The room I stayed in was worn out and didn't appear to be well maintained. The phone in my room didn't work, but that didn't really matter as there really wasn't a need to use it. The wifi was fast, the staff friendly and the breakfast was convenient. If I'm ever back in Raleigh I would spend a little more to stay in a nicer hotel/part of town.

"Not satisfied!!"

3
17/10/2016

The hallway of the building that I stayed in (I had to stay in a separate building from the main one) smelled very bad...very musty and moldy. Adults and children were hanging outside of the building after 11 p.m. The police showed up....not exactly sure what happened because I arrived when the officer was leaving. Adults were smoking right in front of the door to the building...very disrespectful. My non-smoking room smelled as if someone had been smoking in it.

"Restful Hotel"

10/10/2016

Both my traveling partner and I stayed over a night as we do business in NC. It is a decent hotel without much to shout about, the staff is nice and friendly, the room was good and clean smell good too however the elevator needs some serving. Generally the hotel has a nice surrounding the police present is always there and it has some good restaurants near by.

"Best Western"

03/10/2016

Very nice, clean, and convenient hotel at a good price. Traveling as a lone woman, I felt safe at this hotel. I was just bummed out that the pool was closed after Labor Day although it was 95 degrees.

Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We kept the pool open an extra week this year, but you never can tell with the weather here. We look forward to having you as a Guest in the future.

03/10/2016

This is an excellent centrally located place to stay. Although it is not as new as the Best Western on Walnut Street the staff is very friendly and accommodating. On a previous visit I asked Christine where a good deal on a bike could be found. She directed me to the pawn shop across the street. Sure enough we found a good deal. Don't forget if you are a parent of an NC State student you get a very good discount on a room.

Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope the bike works out well for you. We look forward to having you as a Guest in the future.

"EXCELLENT LOCATION"

5
02/10/2016

The BW Raleigh North-Downtown is a great place to stay. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was immaculately clean and very spacious and the breakfast was AWESOME! The location of this BW is perfect close to downtown plus very close to convenient stores, gas stations and restaurants. Very, very easy to access from any direction.

"Prepare for the smell!"

2
27/09/2016

The staff is very pleasant, the smell is not. The first room smelled like mildew horribly. They were fully prepared to switch rooms and the second room was right next door and only a little better. They were fully prepared to keep switching us but we gave up and bought air spray. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink which we told them about but was not fixed. If we weren't both disabled we would have left and didn't have the energy. The staff was stonefaced and was prompted as to what to say about the smell cause they all responded the same way, "We can switch your room" Never again!!!

"Room was nice, but...."

3
12/09/2016

When we checked into the hotel, it was raining.. the guest hallway smelled of mildew. Also, there were roaches in the room, small and medium size. Each day the maid came in to clean, she finished with spraying the carpet with some type of solution, which I am sure was to combat the smell in the room. The bed was comfortable, and the room was very large. We stayed in a separate building, and the parking was okay. The staff at the front desk was very nice and friendly.

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
My apologies for the room not meeting your expectations or from the sound of it ours either. I have researched what room you were in using your Tripadvisor screen name. I checked our logbook and did not find any reports of issues during your stay. If you had made us aware of the issues with the room we would have moved you to another room. Stayed here for a night when we went to see a concert locally. It was cheap, free breakfast free wifi. The room was comfy, was close by to fast food and restaurants and was a 10 min drive from the concert venue so worked a treat for us. I didnt notice any of the issues the other negitive reviews showed.

It's old, but fairly clean, and in working order. Hassle free, ample free parking, easy access. Wifi: worked ok Microwave: clean and adequate Coffee: yes, but only 2 serves and small single cup maker Kettle: sadly yanks don't rate them in rooms, so tea via microwave only Linen, pillows, bed all adequate Bathroom: over bath shower with soap and shampoo/conditioner sample size x 1 Breakfast: it might be the best feature of the hotel! Ample, porridge, bacon, juice, cereals galore

29/08/2016

This hotel seems comfortable but once you stay you will see the problems are with long term guests loitering, smoking in front of entrance and not exhibiting clean behavior. The hotel is somewhat dirty and there were bugs present during this stay. This was my 4th and final stay at this Best Western.

Hotel was clean and simple. The suite had ample space and breakfast was great, however the pullout couch in the suite was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. The mattress on the pull-out couch needs to be replaced.

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We are aware of the issues with some of the pull-out couch mattresses and are in the process of replacing them. I will pass on your comments about breakfast to our kitchen staff. We look forward to having you as a Guest in the future.

"The worst hotel experience"

1
12/08/2016

Let me first say that my fiancé and I went to this hotel knowing that it'll be a budget, no thrills hotel because of the price. But what we actually got was appalling. Our bed sheets and towels were damp which meant we didn't sleep much at all. The room smelt damp and rotten. But the worst part of this hotel room was the blood leading out from the bathroom on the carpet. It was disgusting and unacceptable. We shall not be staying in a Best Western hotel again and we urge people to not use these hotels either!

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
My apologies for the room not meeting your expectations or from the sound of it ours either. If you had made us aware of the issues with the room we would have moved you to another room. "Not sure what this question means."

3
10/08/2016

We usually enjoy our stay at Best Western, but this time the visit was a bit dampened by the roaches that were present. They were everywhere at night outside. They also had the ability to fly. The other portions of the visit were fine. We had breakfast there, and everything was very accommodating.

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Our apologies for the “dampened “part of your stay with us. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the other parts of your stay. We are having our service company do the quarterly outside treatment this month.

24/07/2016

First let me say this, I have stayed in amazing luxury hotels and I have stayed in the crappiest hotels on earth. This one is probably right smack in the middle, according to American hotel standards in the southeast. I'm not a huge chain hotel fan, but on occasion, you just need a place to sleep. This was the case, as I was traveling with my daughter and another mother/daughter pair to see a concert at The Ritz in north Raleigh. We chose this hotel because it was really affordable and had decent reviews. We weren't disappointed, but we certainly weren't impressed either. It was standard...in every aspect. Standard double room. Standard bathroom---but first time in a long time without a hairdryer. Standard breakfast (although honestly, if you eat clean/real food/healthy, you will be limited to a piece of fruit. There is yogurt, but it is the cheap sugary kind that isn't actually yogurt Just a heads up.) Standard check in and check out. Friendly front desk staff. There are two computers with printers in the front lobby, a pool that is clean and refreshing, plenty of space in the room although no folding beds or cots are on site, small balconies off the rooms, ample parking...like I said, very, very standard for the southeast. No frills...but clean, safe, comfortable, and a $6-8 Uber ride to the Ritz if you are seeing a concert. ;-)

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. For future reference there is a hairdryer in the room. They are kept in a black nylon bag hanging in the closet. I will pass on your comments about breakfast to our kitchen staff. We look forward to having you as a Guest in the future.

"Disappointing"

2
23/07/2016

Friendly staff and decent breakfast but this hotel is worn out . Beds were small and not comfortable . Spent the night feeling as if I was falling out of bed because mattress was no longer firm enough . Shower was worn and did not drain without holding the drain mechanism. It is listed as "downtown" but certainly is not.

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We take all aspects of your stay seriously. We will review your comments and use them to improve our hotel and the Guest experience. In the future please contact us with any issues or concerns during your stay so that we can address them while you are here. We look forward to having you as a Guest again.

"Very Nice"

4
19/07/2016

I chose the "Very Good" option because I know many travellers will be seeking "Luxury Accommodations." To me that means "Fancy." Best Western is a bit more modest and basic, but very nice. I found this one very neat, clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly, professional and helpful. I had internet service, comfort, and service. At no point did I think "I wish I had spent more." In fact I had a moment, when I was checking out, when I thought "I'm glad I didn't go to one of the other, pricier options. This was really good, and that's all I paid for it!"

"Over night stay"

3
09/07/2016

Really clean, spacious rooms and a great breakfast spread. Breakfast staff were polite and continually refilled breakfast containers. The pool area looked really nice, I didn't get a chance to enjoy it though. The location is great but the address online was incorrect by a block. Reception staff weren't friendly or helpful at all. Washing detergent ran out at 7pm and when asked for it to be refilled they just shrugged and ignored me. This meant I had to go and buy my own detergent and was waiting around until midnight for my laundry to be finished. I was asked to leave the reception area to close up for the night by the receptionist and thankfully they let me stay when I pointed out that the only reason I was waiting around was because they refused to refill the detergent. Receptionist had head phones in and was listening to music after the front door had been closed, which is fine if you're still paying attention. But she definitely wasn't. Guests arrived late in the evening and had to knock loudly on the front entrance and she ignored them/didn't hear them. As a result I had to get the receptionists attention, as the lobby door was locked. She then yelled at the guest to use the back door without explaining where they needed to go. If the hotel had a sign posted on their door explaining what after our checkins needed to do, they wouldn't have had to stand around and get yelled at. Easy solution to a simple problem. Ultimately the hotel room is the most important aspect and it was very nice, clean and relaxing. However customer service is important and guests deserve to be treated with respect and employees should be respectful of all clients.

"Smelled awful, dirty and creepy!"

2
06/07/2016

It was supposed to be a nonsmoking room and walking into the room almost dropped us with how bad it smelled. There are "red stains" on the floor, along with the window looking as if it had been kicked in. Then looking around there were also dirty socks under the couch and a belly button ring in the BED! Same sheets? Disgusting. On top of this being a "suite"

"Great hotel"

4
03/07/2016

clean, great price reliable hotel. good breakfast and nice size suite rooms for a inexpoensive price. The only complaint I have is the parking is terrible at this hotel and the lobby where the ice and drink machines are located locks at 9 PM which means i have to bring my own drinks and snacks unless im staying in the main building.

"glad we found it"

23/06/2016

we checked out several hotels in the area but this one was the best one for the money. Others were too expensive and others were too run down. glad we found this via GPS. didn't get a chance to see the pool because there was soccer families staying and pool was busy. we also found the hotel early evening so had to spend time at dinner. hotel was quiet and bed comfortable. not too far from downtown Raleigh.

Selected because of convenient location. There were many kids soccer teams staying there obviously in town for a tournament. When they opened for breakfast the place was swarmed with kids. Really disappointed that the lobby didn't open until 7am and had to walk across parking lot to Dunkin Donuts for coffee

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
I apologize for not meeting your expectations. We will look into a solution for early morning coffee availability in addition to the in room coffee makers.

The Best Western Raleigh North is in a good location and close to the city centre. The hotel is clean and the breakfast room is good, not as great a variety as we have had at other Best Western hotels but still adequate. Pool area is nice. We were in the suites at the back of the hotel and in the days that we were at the hotel we didn't have internet connection. Whilst l reported this we did not receive any contact from the hotel staff or the manager. We did ask that the manager contact us as l need to do some work but alas they didn't see the need to service my query.

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
I apologize that no one got back to you to address your concerns. We are aware of the Internet connectivity issues in our Suite building and are working with our provider to correct the issue.

"Clean Comfortable Excellent Value Hotel"

I stayed for 2 nights. I chose this hotel because I have stayed at Best Westerns in the past and it was close to Duke Raleigh Hospital. This hotel is in an excellent location right of the 440. ALL the staff over the 2 days was very friendly and helpful. The hotel and property were immaculate. It could use good signage at the road. You can miss it very easily. The dining room was clean, neat and the continental breakfast was excellent. The pool was clean. The room was spotless and I did do a complete check for bed bugs. I found no evidence what so ever. The free WiFi was fast. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. If you look around the hotel and room you can see some dated things. But what you get for the price and service, it's really not noticeable. It's also right next to a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins store. I lost my key cards at the Hospital and they were wonderful about replacing them. I wish I could have stayed longer. I will definitely be staying there again. .

BWRaleigh, Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for the feedback. We look forward to seeing you again.

We stayed there for a couple of days, the hotel is clean, they offer free breakfast and there is dunkin donuts in the same lot. The downside, they didn't allow early check in even though it was 3 hours early.

"No WiFi"

3
14/06/2016

I was disappointed that there was no WiFi in the Suites. Well you might get it for a minute or two but it's worse than dialup. When you spend extra for a Suite and you get nothing in return you get disappointed.

"Good hotel - busy street location"

4
13/06/2016

They need to cut down some bushes or get a bigger sign. Very difficult to see on the busy two lane street and hard to get in when you are on the other side of road. Very heavy traffic. Desk clerk did not enter me in the $50 reward for two stays, so I missed out on that. Also, did not give good directions to a restaurant I want to go to. Said,. it was down about 3 lights to the left. Well, it was more than that and was in a strip mall, no visible from the street and heavy traffic. I did find it by error.

"Clean and inexepnsive"

13/06/2016

Hotel overall was not bad for the price. Rooms are a little on the older looking side but the bed was comfortable and the shower piping hot. Easy access to highway and airport. Centrally located. Staff very courteous and professional.

"Best value and service"

5
12/06/2016

We had a king room, which it was comfortable and clean. My daughter and I stayed for one night. Hotel was a quick drive to state board. Staff was friendly and courteous. Breakfast was basic but did the job. Hotel was in a great location to restaurants and shops. I loved the 12pm check out, gave me a chance to kick back while my daughter took her 4 hour exam.

"A great stay in an oasis"

4
17/05/2016

I had business the next day in downtown Raleigh and planned to stay in a nearby budget motel but on arrival found that place unpleasant. This nearby Best Western motel came up on Google and it was totally different. Inviting place, safe, friendly and competent staff, wonderful king bed in a quiet room for a great price. Warm and tasty breakfast in the morning, too. I'd definitely stay here again.

"Decent sleepover "

4
16/05/2016

The location was great, less then 10 minutes from Crabtree Mall and prime location to many eating places. Walmart within 15 minutes away. The rates are reasonable and rooms are standard, no microwave or refrigerator. If looking for a decent place to rest for a nite or two.

"Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, Raleigh, NORTH CAROLINA"

16/05/2016

My wife and I stayed here for three days and the entire experience was everything we could have expected and more. The people at the counter were very helpful while the staff in the dining room and maintenance / cleaning people were very freinldy and made every effort to make our stay as enjoyable as posssible

"You just can't beat it!"

4
15/05/2016

After looking at photos and reading reviews about the property, I figured I would give it a shot...I am so happy I did! The property was clean and well kept. The staff is fantastic, especially Jamie who went above and beyond to make sure we were properly accommodated. The free breakfast had a nice variety and stayed stocked the entire time, even the late-comers had all options. I have read thousands of reviews but this is my first time writing one. This is definitely a go to for anyone who visits the Raleigh area, at least I know it is for me.

"Easy access from freeway and to downtown, lots of privet."

4
15/05/2016

We chose hotels that are out of town, close to a freeway exit and have easy access to downtown. This hotel fitted all our needs. The room was spacious, clean and the service friendly, free wifi and a standard continental breakfast. The downside for us were the hedges of privet that surround the hotel. My husband is allergic to pollen and we had to leave this hotel after one night because of the privet.

"Decent stay for the price"

3
12/05/2016

This was my second stay at this property. I love Best Western and stay at them whenever I travel and it breaks my heart to say that this is my least favorite. It's a decent place to stay for what they charge but there's just an overall sense of cost-cutting that's hard to ignore. I was pleased with Luke, who checked me in wearing his uniform (last time whoever checked me in was wearing a gray hoodie - I wasn't even sure he worked there) and a smile. My room didn't have a microwave or mini-fridge, both of which I was counting on, but that's probably my fault for not examining the amenities list more closely - I just assumed they'd be there since they'd been in every other one of the Best Westerns I've been to. Breakfast is nearly all cereal carbs, with some yogurt, bananas, & oranges off to the side. On the positive, the internet worked well, the bed was comfy, the shower was warm, and my neighbors were quiet.

Clean lovely hotel, for the price and the location better than most cheap value options. The staff where great when it came to arranging an extra night, Jamie dealt with me well. Breakfast had a good range.

"Good value"

10/05/2016

One night stay Raleigh North. Booked the Best Western based on price and location. Check in wasn't great. The receptionist should listen more and talk less. Having said that .... room 107 was great. It's roomy and has a patio door leading out to the front. Hotel is secure and central. Breakfast ... good considering type and price of hotel

"Nice hotel, good value"

4
09/05/2016

the hotel was nice, the rooms were clean and the beds were soft. Safe location. large spacious rooms. Breakfast was decent. many options. If you just need something clean, safe, and reasonably priced, this is a good choice.

"Value"

5
05/05/2016

No nearby hotel can beat this Best Western based on price and what you get for it. It was way cheaper than anything else that seemed credible in the area so we didn't know what to expect but booked a room anyway. Well, our stay was as good as it gets, the place felt safe, the room was excellent, the staff was nice and the location was convenient. We didn't get to try the free breakfast but the wireless internet (free as well) was really fast. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

"Will definately be back"

5
05/05/2016

Great price...comfy bed...much better hotel then I expected! Breakfast on day 1 was amazing Day 2 not so much. Front staff is nice and the hotel in right next to highway exit! I have to come bqck to the area next weekend and will probably stay here again!

"In town for a concert "

3
04/05/2016

We came to Raleigh for The Formation World Tour, booked the room a couple weeks in advance & called a few days before to confirm and all was well. Check in was quick & easy. There were about 15 State Trooper cars in the parking lot so I felt extra safe. Guess they were there for a conference or something because they were all gone the next morning. The do have breakfast but we were so tired from the concert we missed it! Noon checkout was great to have & the room was neat & clean & the king size bed slept well. Bed was a lil firm but all the pillows were great.

"Raleigh NC Trip"

24/04/2016

This Best Western was located in an ideal location. It was literally minutes from downtown Raleigh and also to the Crabtree Mall which we frequented a lot for dinner and shopping. Plus it was a bonus that a Dunkin Donuts was right next door and there was a gas station right across the street that we filled up at before returning the rental car at the airport. Overall a great experience.

"Stayed one night for my nephew's wedding."

2
18/04/2016

Made my reservation weeks in advance for a one night stay. Requested a 12 noon check in with no response from Best Western. I drove in from out of state for my Nephew's 4 PM wedding. Clerk told me I could not check in till 3 PM. Told her I requested a noon check in. She said we don't read or go by those. I told her I have a 4 PM wedding. Sorry we're full is her response. I was traveling alone. Parking lot sure was empty for being full. Last time staying at Best Western.

"My 2nd visit to this Best Western, very happy with my stay there!"

5
13/04/2016

I stayed in room 215, room was very clean, Mattress looked brand new, new carpet, very quiet. It has been recently renovated, the Lobby redone, the Breakfast room enlarged, new carpet throughout, friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of breakfast items, hot biscuits, gravy, pancakes, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. I will definitely stay here whenever I am in town.

"ok not great"

3
12/04/2016

If you're set on saving money, having a marginal breakfast, and being close to major roads, than this is your place to stay. However, during my stay the air conditioner didn't work, emergency sirens were heard all night, and I was instructed to install the batteries on a smoke alarm in the room by staff. Not much within walking distance for eating, unless you are willing to walk a mile one way. Great staff but mediocre experience,

"Clean"

4
11/04/2016

I had reservations at holiday inn next door. Problem was they don't take cash. So I came here and glad I did! Cheaper, breakfast is included, and is very clean. Person at service desk was very pleasant. No smoking room but I have my own private patio to go smoke on rather than go downstairs. You need room key to access building. All around great stay!

"Clean Rooms"

4
11/04/2016

I only stayed for one night. I was traveling for medical appointments. But the rooms were much better than I expected. The price was extremely reasonable. The water did not get very hot and there was no water pressure. But for the value, I would stay here again.

"Very nice hotel"

4
10/04/2016

Hotel was well located for our needs, which at this time was a hockey game. Check in was handled very well and staff very professional. Our room was very clean and well laid out although it did not have a refrigerator, so we used lots of ice to keep our stuff cold.

"Great Location"

4
09/04/2016

We were in town for a concert, and stayed at Best Western, because it was close to the venue. It met all of my expectations, and I'd stay there again, if I needed a room in Raleigh. Most of the other guests appeared to be there on business. There was plenty of parking, even with construction vehicles in the lots. Dunkin Donuts right beside the hotel was certainly an added bonus!

"Great place to stay"

5
07/04/2016

The stay was excellent. The rooms are clean, beds and pillows are comfortable - expect a good nights sleep. Location is extremely convenient. In a very busy area - well kept property - you feel safe here. Sabrina was so kind and patient with all my questions when attempting to book at 10:30 pm. The staff are kind and courteous - wanting to help in any way possible.

"Excellent value"

5
06/04/2016

We stayed here Easter weekend in March 2016. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. The staff was friendly and breakfast had many options. Only issue was getting out of the parking lot at busy times of the day.

"Good Basic Motel"

3
04/04/2016

Everything was acceptable and breakfast was very good. Good value for the cost. Parking was good. Access to main points of interest was good. Staff was accommodating. Shower was clean and good in-room coffee selection,

"Okay, clean room for one night "

3
26/03/2016

Close proximity to downtown Raleigh. Entrance is a pain to get into during the day. Check in was quick and easy. Room is clean with plenty of towels, soaps, etc. Mattress and pillows are comfortable. Not sure what kind of event is taking place in the area or if the guests here are frequent visitors, but the other guests during our stay were a bit sketchy...partying, loud music, pot smell in the hallway. Okay for one night for us, but best to get up early and get out.

"Great Stay"

4
25/03/2016

Was in town for a two day training. Room was perfect upon my late(r) night check-in. Housekeeping was great throughout stay. Hotel was clean, and looked to have been recently renovated. Bed linens were clean and in good condition. Bathroom was nice and clean. Breakfast good. Staff friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed by stay. Highly recommend for budget hotel. Felt safe for female traveling alone.

"Pleasant, Clean, and Well-maintained Hotel"

5
24/03/2016

Both outside and inside this hotel was not only spotless, but also updated and comfortable. Bedding was a nice quality and mattress was just right for a good night's sleep. The room was well appointed with desk, overstuffed chair and footstool. Breakfast was a cut above the typical and attractively presented. The bananas were just the correct ripeness. Instead of a typical waffle machine, there were make-your-own pancakes. Scrambled eggs, sausage, and fried potatoes were other specialties. For the price this place was a great bargain.

"E-Cig smelling room"

2
21/03/2016

Stay out of Rm. 216, they must have had a E-Cig party there, the room smelled awful, had it not been for the NCAA opening round there in Raleigh that weekend I would have moved to another hotel, don't think I will be staying at this hotel again

"n/a"

17/03/2016

the hotel is close to everything so I like that. But I did not receive some of the supplies I asked for until it was time to check-out. I did not like the fact that the housekeeper did not want to give up the extra supplies.

"Pleased with stay"

5
16/03/2016

The room was fresh, clean and quiet with excellent condition furnishings and carpeting. We got the king-sized bed and had a very comfortable nights rest. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent cleanliness, couldn't be better.

"Decent Hotel - Terrible Location"

4
08/03/2016

The thing that sticks out the most for me is accessing this hotel via car is a real challenge. Capital Blvd is a very busy road. This hotel is on Capitol and the 440 exit is the very next thing. When coming in from downtown, you have to wait for a large enough gap to get across 4 lanes of traffic that never stops. Leaving is the real challenge. I never tried to head north but I'm guessing you would head south and make a u-turn. Heading south is a challenge as you must fight traffic and very quickly pick your lane as you are coming out into the 440 exit ramps. Also, once you are in the parking lot, the spaces are tiny. Ok, enough about driving. The place is old but I'm going to guess it was very well remodeled within the past 3 years. Things that were not changed include bathroom doors, tubs, tub tile, and a cabinet holding a mini fridge. They did a good job. The beds, bedding, dresser, fridge, microwave, counters, and plumbing fixtures were all updated to what you would expect in a new hotel. Comfort should not be an issue. I didn't notice any cleanliness issues but I wasn't really there long enough to find anything. Breakfast service was decent. There is a really neat pancake making machine. You push a button and wait for a fresh pancake to drop out of the end. They had four hot items including oatmeal, scrambled eggs, bacon, and diced potatoes with peppers. The bacon was not really good. All 8 of us would suggest they explore another option there. There were also breads, cereal, instant grits, and yogurt. Different sections of the hotel are separate buildings. This was a little odd as you have to walk outside to get to another room if it is on another hallway or if you want to walk to the lobby. Also, taking the stairs requires going outside. There is an elevator but I like the stairs. The stairs cannot be accessed from the exterior so going up requires the elevator. We were in room 206 so I can't comment on how this worked in other areas of the property. If you like quiet rooms, this place is not for you. We easily heard every conversation in the hall and I heard things being moved around downstairs under our room. Our room was not street or highway side but I'm wondering if that could be an issue for some. Would I stay here again? I'm divided but I think I would skip it. The driving access was just too challenging. Maybe there was a way out the back to a side road. If that exists, then it would be better but if not, I don't think I'll be back. My review is a little limited. I arrived late to a room that had already been checked into. My son was already in there with the lights out. My mom handled the reservation, check in, and check out. So, I only commented on as much as I can.

"Very Clean!!"

3
06/03/2016

I needed an inexpensive place to stay near Raleigh and didn't want to pay downtown prices. The location is a tad scary, but what do you expect for the price. The hotel is old and building was musty in general but the room was SPOTLESS! I constantly saw people cleaning around the hotel and I was very impressed with how clean the room was. You can tell the housekeeping staff go over and above to clean and they recently were awarded a housekeeping award for 2015; they deserve it. The hotel is convenient to highway but hard to get in and out of parking lot

"Nice overnight business stay with family"

04/03/2016

Making reservations by phone with Luke was totally painless. When we arrived the next evening the reservation was just as I asked ~ 2 double rooms as close together as possible. They were actually adjoining rooms so my grand kids enjoyed it. :) The only fault with the rooms was a strong mildew smell. My son found that the carpet by the fridge was soaking wet and possibly the reason for the foul smell. He brought it to the attention of the young lady at the front desk when we were checking out. There was a very rowdy group of young women in and out of rooms and hallway between 11pm and 12pm. Just when I thought I'd had enough they finally settled down and we slept off and on. The heat/ac unit was very loud. Other than these issues, we had a good stay. The breakfast was excellent, facilities very clean and all of the staff would make you want to return very soon!

BWRaleigh, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for taking your time for leaving your response on Trip Advisor. I will be sure to share and compliment Luke on his Customer Service. Also, thank you for bringing the wetness of the carpet to our attention, I will be sure to have our maintenance look at the problem. We do hope to see you and your family back in the near future. Thank you again, General Manager

"Great place, but must whisper"

4
04/03/2016

Clean, up dated room decor, with all the amenities you expect at a mid range motel. Very satisfied with everything, except the paper thin walls and no refrigerator. We heard every word next door a guy was saying on his cell phone until 1 AM unfortunately. So we decided we better whisper to each other, so he would not hear us. Not a place for a wild night in the hay, that's for sure. Full free breakfast was very nice and had everything you'd want to start your day. Food area closes up at 9:30 AM, but worth getting up early for. The highlight is fresh made pancakes. But they need to offer sugar free syrup as a choice. Noon check out was also a plus. Would definitely return. With AARP senior discounts, it was reasonable and we could be in the center of downtown in 10 minutes.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to serve you at the Best Western Raleigh. Thanks for the great kind words about our hotel. 03/03/2016

Needed a place to check in late and leave early next morning so didn't need a lot of "extras". The room was clean and quiet and the bed comfortable. They serve some form of breakfast but had to leave well before it started. Would use again in a similar situation.

The hotel is located in a great area outside of the downtown area right off the highway to go anywhere in the research triangle. Plus it has a conveniently located Dunkin Donuts right out front. Overall is was a great stay with friendly staff.

Good hotel for the price! Stayed her for the state basketball tournament. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was okay. Only complaint was the noisy heater/ac unit in the room. Hotel was quiet and the staff were friendly. Good customer service!

"Close to I-440."

This property's location close to the Raleigh Loop is one of its best features. Internet is also fast & reliable. I appreciated Luke, who opened an extra check-in counter when he saw me waiting in line. The breakfast coffee was excellent.

Hotel had Nice rooms, friendly staff, comfortable bed, decent area, i enjoyed my overall stay and experience, i would recommend to family and friends, parking lot is a little tight when it comes to park, cars are very tight

"Ask where your room is!"

3
18/02/2016

This property is really two buildings. The main one you see in the photos is what you would expect in the way of lobby, services, etc. HOWEVER, they have a second building completely separate from the main property that they referred to as "the suites". Ha. Not exactly. Just normal rooms (at least what we stayed in). Room was fine, BUT two big problems. First, there is no elevator. We were on the second floor and had to lug everything up an outside staircase. Second, you can forget running down to the lobby for breakfast. Probably not bad on a beautiful spring morning, but we were they during the winter. It's a hike across the parking lot. Finally, at least during the 4 days we stayed there it was tour bus city. At least 4 large coach buses there each night.

"Excellent Choice!"

5
17/02/2016

Staff very accomodating after flight was postponed. Breakfast had very good variety and was tasty. Housekeeping service fullfilled requests for extra items without reservation or attitude. The location was very convenient to other stores and restaraunts.

"No Towels and Roaches"

2
17/02/2016

I stayed at this location twice for 2 days each time. The first visit was pleasant and I enjoyed the stay and the room. The second time was not pleasant. The housekeeper cleaned the room but didn't leave towels and we saw a roach.

"Good breakfast, fast internet"

4
14/02/2016

The hallway of the hotel smelled a little but the room is very clean. The staff including front desk, cleaning crew, and kitchen staff were all very polite and friendly. The front desk person was nice to replenish toiletry items and bath towels. The hot breakfast was yummy (eggs, sausages, bacon, potato, pancakes..) I also appreciated the fast internet, it was even better than expensive hotels. My room has a little balcony where I can get fresh air. The only thing that is not desirable for the hotel is the location. It is at super busy street. It was very difficult to head north on capital blvd as there was no traffic light at the hotel entrance to helped me to get to the opposite direction. The hotel sign is a bit hidden as well. If you see Dunkin Donut, it's right next to it.

"If you need a comfortable room, this is your spot!!"

5
14/02/2016

I've stayed here four times over the past three months. Each time the staff is courteous and goes out of their way to be helpful. The rooms are basic but if you're looking for a comfortable bed/pillows in a clean room with a hot shower, then this is everything you will need.

"great location and value"

this was a great place for me to stay while i was in town for events that were in the downtown area--everything was an easy 8-10 minute drive. the room was nice and roomy and had everything i needed, plus it was a great value. the staff was very helpful and got me in and out in record time. i will definitely come back to this hotel next time i'm in the area.

01/02/2016

Room was clean and cheap. Lots of blue collar extended stay clients. Motor coaches seem to park in the rear lot. Also utility trucks. Hotel is nonsmoking, but lots of smokers are cycling to the entrances and stairwells. One instance of public urination by a multitasking smoker on a phone call.

I stayed here for 1 night with a tour group. Room was very spacious with 2 double beds and good sized bathroom. Room was mostly clean, except when we checked in, there was a used piece of soap in the shower. Room also has fridge and microwave. Breakfast had a good selection and was tasty.

The rooms were clean and beautifully appointed. The breakfast was the best ever. There were many items (hot and cold) to choose from. The lobby was attractive and it was an excellent experience. The location was convenient to many excellent restaurants and getting downtown was easy.

My daughter and I checked in last night for a nearby volleyball tournament and were very pleased. The rooms are clean, the bed is comfortable, and the staff are friendly and professional. Our tournament is in the downtown area, which is a straight shot from the hotel. There are several good restaurants nearby which also adds to the convenience. For the money and location, you can't beat it.

07/01/2016

I am a diamond member and was given a free upgrade to a suite upon my arrival. The room was spacious and comfortable. It was a little rough around the edges in some spots but not a deal breaker. The only concern I had was that there was an odor/ air freshener smell in the living area that kind off bugged me. The bedroom wasn't affected and was comfortable and clean. I got a good nights sleep.

"Comfortable with a good location"

03/01/2016

Ask for a King size bed, one of the most comfortable beds I ever slept in - including higher end hotels like the Ritz (Atlanta) Hyatt (Arlington) and Hilton (Charlotte). The breakfast was good with applegate sausages and more variety then the typical "continental" breakfast. Only thing bad was that we needed AC in the winter time and it blew the circuit breaker - but it was an easy fix by the hotel staff. Great location to downtown and also to areas around the research triangle (route 440 is right there).

"Charged two times for my rooms"

I prepaid for my rooms but was still charged again when I arrived at the hotel. When I realized the discrepancy and called the hotel, the staff was extremely rude. Now I have to wait 7-10 business days to get my money back. Also, we arrived extremely late for checkin. I called in advance to let them know that we were arriving late. We were in town for the funeral of my 10 yo niece. My family and I had to stand outside at a little window, at 4 am, while the clerk checked us in. We weren't even allowed to enter into the lobby.

"Trip to see Father-in-law, get real BBQ."

The real BBQ is at Clyde Cooper's Barbecue on Davies st. If you are in Raleigh NC check it out. And make sure you take some home. I did not get enough as its gone already. Parking is a little problem, as it is a busy street with construction work is going on now. There is no refrigerator, microwave, or safe, but room is nice for a one nite stay only.

BWRaleigh, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Raleigh North-Downtown, responded to this review
Thank you for your suggestion on a nearby restaurant I will most defiantly have to try it! I am happy to hear your stay with us was comfortable. We look forward to your next visit to town as we would love to have you back! I would love to get you in one of our rooms that do have the refrigerator and microwave. Thank you again, General Manager

Can't beat it for the price. The location if perfect being right off a main highway, the staff is super friendly, the beds are comfortable, the water is hot with good pressure and breakfast is basic but tasty.

"Close to the Interstate, not so close to the city"

This hotel is on a very busy highway with many fast food outlets and petrol stations around. Other than that the neighbourhood has little to offer. This hotel has a good breakfast room. There was a problem with the room and it was fixed after a while.

During a busy Weekend in Raleigh including the NC State Fair, I under-booked my reservation. The staff was able to arrange for another night at the Best Western without a room change for me. It relieved my anxiety of finding another motel on a super busy and crowded weekend in Raleigh.

"It smelled of smoke"

24/10/2015

The rooms smelled like a 1970's disco, The area was separated from the main building with no elevator. Just overall old and smelly. The main office area was clean and the staff was efficient. The lighting in the rooms was similar to something you may have in an outdoor shed or garage.

"Courteous staff"

Courteous staff, and good breakfast. I enjoyed my stay. The receptionist was courteous and kind. The location was also very convenient. This is my 2nd stay at a Best Western hotel, and I liked it enough to consider staying there again.

"stay was fine but reservation counter was not"

Hotel was fine. clean and friendly. However reservation counter ( part of expeedia) had only an automated phone number and I could not change the reservation for the first to arrive. This caused one person in our party to have to wait in the parking lot for 2 hours while the other parties arrived.

We so enjoyed our 1st 3 night stay at beginning our 3 week six state tour that we finished our trip with another 3 night stay!! Best Western Raleigh North-Downtown, North Carolina is pure excellence from location, amenities but especially their outstanding staff from management to housekeepers!!

"Worn out"

03/10/2015

Location was great, but the hotel smells of rot and mildew. Hotel needs to be renovated. The personnel working the desk were very helpful. Most seemed to be sincerily trying to help. The price, was competitive with similiar properties in the área, It was over 80 degrees but the pool was closed.

"Decent stay"

The only complaint that I had was that they did not clean my room as requested. The front desk staff is very polite and helpful! The breakfast was well. The other thing is this location is kind of hard to get out of unless you're headed to 440W

"Short stay"

24/09/2015

I stayed here for one night due to early morning meeting. The hotel was close to highway. My room is spacious and typical hotel. The bed was comfortable, though pillows were kinda small. My room had balcony overlooking the pool. Check in and check out were quick and easy. I skipped breakfast, but it smelled nice. Parking is mainly on sides of hotel.

"Good value, great breakfast"

04/09/2015

Good location. Close to freeways, a great mall, and restaurants. Dunkin donuts is right next door. We were very impressed with the continental breakfast, good selection. Coffee was kind of weak, so we walked over to Dunkin for our coffee. Room was clean and bed was VERY comfortable. Put a do not disturb sign on your door though, because the housekeeper knocked on our door at 8:30am to clean the room and the second morning the fire alarm went off at 7:30 am for a false alarm. So there was no sleeping in for us... But overall, for the price, it was a nice place to stay. Close parking. Felt safe, had to swipe into the building.
