We have stayed at The Salmsbury hotel a few times The staff were so friendly given that the hotel is in administration and it must be difficult for them It is ideally located close to the motorway so good for travelling around I hope the hotel gets sorted regards the administration the staff were very helpful and friendly given this must be difficult times for them

Met up with work chums for a business meeting. it is just of the M6 so i a very handy location. The food was OK and the drinks fine, the service was a little wobbly, but probably down to the language barrier. The lounge area is a little dated, but fine for a meeting.

Stayed here for a wedding a few weeks ago. As we checked in we were asked whether we wanted breakfast the next morning to which I asked whether we could think about and was promptly told it would be more expensive on the day to buy. Got to love that little trick hotels play to make sure they lock you in! Breakfast was somewhere in the region of £12-14 per person, which sounded like it would be a cracking meal. What a disappointment, the food was far from nice. The quality of the produce was really substandard, even the orange and apple juice tasted watered down! How on earth these places see those costs for breakfast even close to reasonable is beyond me. The room itself was nice enough, modern and clean. However the bathroom had patches of mound and a pretty yellow ceiling. Hopefully this is something that is still part of the renovation of the hotel that is yet to be done!

We booked this hotel based on reviews and prices on booking.com. Unfortunately, we were a little disappointed. It says the hotel had been recently refurbished ... Yet it looked extremely dated to us! Our room was ok, cosy, bed was comfy but the bathroom wasn't great. That had definitely not been refurbished recently! As we had a wedding on the Saturday, we thought we would pay for breakfast at the hotel that morning ... big mistake! It was so expensive for what you got. Yes, there was a lot of food you could eat but the quality of the food was not particularly good, especially the hot stuff. Save your money and go to the Greggs/Subway opposite the hotel! Not a particularly enjoyable stay unfortunately.

I literally slept, had breakfast and left. I arrived after one in the morning, parked quickly and entered through automatic doors. There was a receptionist on duty dealing with a few drunken guests. The reception area was modern with a large table and several computers dotted around the table. The receptionist had my key card ready, so I never had to hang around. The lift was very slow, really slow, probably because the lift was quite dated. In the morning it got stuck on the 1st floor. Well I'm a bit sceptical, I think the chambermaid kept pressing the button so the door kept opening. After 3 times I decided to take the stairs with my case and let the chambermaid along with her cart use the lift. My room was clean and spacious, the bathroom too. I never got a chance to fully take in my surroundings in the room, but when I used the towel in the bathroom, the softness made me take note. I was very impressed with the quality of the towels. There were two shampoos but no shower gel. Good thing I brought my own. The bed and pillows were very comfy and soft. I fell asleep straight away and had a comfortable sleep. The shower took a little while to warm up in the morning, but once it was hot it was refreshing. There were plenty of staff on duty in the dining area. My room number was taken immediately. I ordered a peppermint tea and it was delivered to my table within minutes. Breakfast was filling. I had the usual scramble eggs, beans, mushrooms, a slice of bacon with toast. I quite liked the breakfast menu on the table. When returning my key card at reception, I noticed flasks of lemon water and juices which was a nice touch. I never got a chance to try out the other facilities, so cannot comment on them.

Stopped here overnight on our way to Southern Lakes. Receptionist very pleasant as were all staff who couldn't be more helpful or accomodating. Room was on smallish size but v clean and quiet. Views over the fields. Bathroom immaculate and great shower. Booked through own website where breakfast is free at present. Food tasty and hot. Only downside no air con but windows do open

Here is another example of a hotel treating coach drivers like second class citizens. First room given 219 roof water damaged from room above,second room given 319 where water damage came from. Needless to say I refused both rooms and as the receptionist said these rooms are never used. In the end they wanted myself the driver and the courier to share a family room with one of us not having bathroom facilities. This idea was not going to happen and the end result was that I was booked into another hotel by my company. This is a typical occurrence with hotels selling as many rooms as possible then wondering which broom cupboard to put the driver in. This review will also be sent to BUSK a campaign against the blatant unfair treatment of drivers. Let's hope you understand that we travel vast distances and need our rest and this is what we come to.

Enjoyed our groupon stay. Clean room although a little on the small side, lovely food, breakfast and evening meal and fabulous service. Would be fabulous for a wedding venue! Excellent value for money! Will stay again!

Stayed overnight on a coach trip north. The room was very spacious and comfortable, staff were welcoming and friendly, and despite being a coach party the evening meal was excellent (as was teh breakfast). Not a very pretty location, on a main road junction, but it is posible to find a couple of nice walks locally.

Very nice afternoon tea although we were the only people in the place but having said that it was a beautiful sunny day. Sandwiches to suit our taste, lovely cakes and scones and the trimmings plus as much tea and coffee as we wanted. Very polite staff.

We booked a family room last July 2017 as soon as we received an invited to a family wedding. I have stayed in a few best westerns so felt comforted and confident when I searched close by hotels to the wedding reception With my daughter and two aunties we thought it would be nice to have a family room When we left the church we hot rotted it over to the hotel before going to the wedding reception and as we waited in the car my auntie went to check in for us When she came back to the car she told us all how we couldn't check in as there had been a problem with the booking service (we rang the hotel last July 2017 to book the room) and due to the computer system we hadn't been allocated a room. So when we returned after the wedding night do we would have to speak with them and sort it We returned at 11.30pm and after waiting around for 15 mins with various staff coming and going I asked what the problem was. They said they only had two rooms left which were next to each other but were double rooms. I was ok to sleep in the same room as my daughter but my two aunties were not. Given the time and situation we were in we had no choice to accept this and agreed on a 30% discount given that we were splitting the family room cost between the 3 of us. When we then got to the rooms they were absolutely boiling so much so we couldn't get to sleep , no air conditioning and the window could only open a little. The duvet was a winter duvet. When we then came to shower in the morning in each of our rooms was only one bath towel. My aunties therefore decided not to get a shower rather that deciding who was going to use the one towel. When they then came to use the sink to get a wash apparently this was then comical due to the design of the sink Breakfast was good ! And the only thing that was good about the hotel

"How not to do a wedding"

We booked our wedding here at the end of 2017 to be held in 2019 and at the time of booking nothing was to much trouble. A few months later and I had a little query which was absolutely blown up by my wedding planner and led to management stepping in and taking over my wedding and current wedding planner leaving (jumping ship) a few weeks later I recieved an email explaining somebody else would take over my wedding until a new wedding planner was employed, taking the total number of people in charge of my wedding to 4 and we still had a year to go, however I was not happy with this so second planner (management) was kept. Fast forward 6 weeks and I discovered via facebook that the hotel had gone into administration and my wedding was at risk! When I contacted them about this they told me they didnt have my address in order to inform me personally, you are seriously telling me that you don't keep the contact information of customers spending thousands of pounds with your company? Although for anybody still considering booking their wedding at a hotel in administration the lady at the end of the phone told me not to worry its not that the hotel isn't making money they just havent paid the tax man! I didn't recieve an apology and my deposit has probably gone to pay the tax bill.

Stayed here for two nights as i have stayed here in the past and i have to say the service was terrible the lady at the reception was rude as we had issues with the room and did not even seem to be bothered. Very disappointing such a nice place and location but the service is terrible!

We were looking at booking a large party here but as the manager was whinging about 'uncertainty over Brexit' for a fall in bookings in the local press we decided to go elsewhere. The place is now up for sale. I wonder why.

Good room with great en suite. Reception was quick and easy. Only issue is we had to wait for 45 minutes after ordering one course in the lounge bar area! However when the food arrived it was really good!

I was booked into this hotel for work sadly its not up to some other best Western hotels. There was no one thing complain about except the breakfast their was the usual fry up with over cooked eggs or plastic scrambled offerings. The cold selection was pathetic. I was one of the first into the breakfast room and the fruit salad was made up of 90 % apple with very other choice. Anyway its a average hotel with little to recommend it.

Overall this is a spacious and comfortable hotel. But management needs to inspect individual rooms and ensure they are well maintained and not falling into disrepair. The design of the shower with small glass screen and the large square fixed showerhead means that it cannot be adjusted by the guest and it floods the floor. We put a towel down to soak up the overflow but the damage over time can be seen on the rotten doorframes. Looking through other guests photos on TripAdvisor this is not an isolated problem in our room only - there are photos of the same thing in other guests rooms. The complimentary toiletries are the usual shampoo, conditioner, etc. but they have become solid over time and have to be beaten out of the bottles. The carpets are very utilitarian but tired looking and in need of a shampoo. And there is a shortage of plug points in the room. Those are the negatives - on the plus side the lounge, bar area and restaurant are very comfortable and spacious. The restaurant staff work very hard and the food is excellent. I had soup, chicken and fruit salad for dinner. Breakfast is buffet style so you can choose exactly what you want. The beds are comfortable and there is the usual TV and coffee making facilities. It was good for a one-night stop on a coach trip but I don't know if I would be coming again on a private trip.

We stayed for three nights from 20th April as part of the Stafford Bridge Club Away weekend. The rooms were fine, clean with nice décor and walk-in showers. The staff went out of their way to help us - a big boardroom for the bridge sessions, providing coffee and water as well as easy chairs for those who were not playing. The food was very good, with a buffet breakfast service and waiter service for dinner. Our thanks especially to Christian, the food and veg manager!

Booked here through a deal on Groupon and a great deal it was, Bed and breakfast with 3 course meal. I booked a night away for my husbands birthday with friends, a very nice hotel lovely and clean and all staff were very friendly. Checking in was simple and fast, room was lovely and clean, kettle and condiments with the extra of a coffee machine in the room also, bed was lovely and comfy and big, shower was fab a nice walk in shower ???? With shampoo conditioner soap and lotion available, although hairdryer was missing from the room. Bar staff were friendly & helpful although I thought 3x single pink gins with lemonade and a pint of Stella £19.80 was dear. The deal we had was a 3 course meal which all 3 meals were nice the Camembert was slightly cold but not an issue and was told the pate was not available, did find the meals came out a bit fast one after another no time for food to go down properly but again can not fault the food. Bottle of house rose wine was reasonable at £15.95. Breakfast was great everything provided from continental to cooked buffet breakfast, staff were rushed off there feet filling up all the time as the morning was busy due to a wedding party being there. Would return if we have the chance again. Nice to have friendly helpful staff when staying somewhere and not one staff was unpleasant or rude.

I had my wedding there Saturday 21st April 2018, myself & family all stayed on Friday night, the rooms were lovely, clean & tidy. We all ate in the restaurant at night, the food was amazing!! Quick service &friendly staff. On the Saturday, I was brought breakfast to my room, so much choice, all tasty! Kat & her team were amazing!! They ran my wedding like clock work, Kat even looked after my 2yr old for 20-30 mins before the ceremony. The staff here are fantadic, nothing was too much trouble, the whole day was amazing & all due to the fantadtic team. Compliments must be made also to the chef, the food at the wedding was the best ive had, everyone said how neautiful it was. I highly recommend this venue for food, drinks & events.

"Bridesmaid at a wedding there"

Amazing staff, helpful in the run up to the wedding and there all day on the day itself. The wedding was perfect, everything ran smoothly, all guests were happy. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The accommodation was lovelyour and clean. No complaints at all.

My mum and I booked this hotel as part of a mystery get away with a local coach company. Although we only stayed one night we were very impressed with it. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who swiftly checked us into the hotel. Our room was spacious, clean and modern. The facilities were good. We ate evening dinner and breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. There was a good selection of food to choose from, and the sticky toffee pudding was particularly good. Our waitress at our evening meal was Chelsea, who was exceptionally helpful and friendly. She went out of her way to ensure our evening meal was to our taste and we had everything we wanted. The bar stocked a wide variety of drinks and the prices were reasonable. There were lots of comfy settees and tables which created a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and we would certainly book another hotel within the Best Western chain.

The staff were extremely welcoming, in particular kirsty, chelsea and Cristian. Kirsty provided me avid conversation all evening which i appreciated rather than being isolated in my room. Cristian also changed a damaged chair prior to food service when my colleagued sat on it and it made a questionable sound. Very accomodating. I valued this a lot Kind regards Josh

"A Pleasant Stop-Over"

We stayed one night at this hotel, prior to our crossing to the Isle of Man. We were greeted by Kirsty and allocated Room 105 on the ground floor, which was good for our knees. It's a comfortable, well-appointed room with a bathroom in keeping. I'm always pleased to find a shaving mirror. There's an on-site fitness centre, which we didn't use. We were served a good three-course meal with tea or coffee, having made our choices on arrival. House wine was at a very reasonable £14.95 per bottle. The buffet breakfast offered the usual range of hot and cold items, which were frequently replenished. The staff were friendly and helpful and we'd have no hesitation about staying there again.

Booked this hotel through Groupon very good deal. I had phoned the day before mentions were staying for our anniversary also I and asked if pool & spa facilities were available unfortunately the poll had closed a little over a year ago but the gym was still in use. On arrival we were given complimentary drink vouchers, when we had got to our room there were towels in the shape of a heart, flower petals & sequins on the bed. The room was s good size and a coffee machine is also available in the room. The hotel is very clean & tidy, the bar has a lovely atmosphere and breakfast was also very nice. I have been here one before for afternoon tea this hotel never fails to impress, will definitely be returning.

Lovely hotel nice clean and rooms very comfortable. Arrived early as was passing on the way to a wedding we was attending and the receptionist checked if our room was ready which it was the receptionist was very friendly. The day before we arrived received a courtesy email saying that it was cash only which was also good so we wasn't arriving not knowing this. Will definitely be returning.

Very nice , hotel , very clean and comfy , rooms were well stocked , with some nice little touches . One free drink for residents ( unfortunately we didn't use it , as we were back too late , from a nearby wedding ) Would definitely recommend this hotel .

"Nice enough hotel"

My husband and I stayed here Saturday 31st March for our anniversary and it was was a nice stay, the bar staff were friendly, the lady at reception could of done with cracking at least one smile! The room was nice and clean. Unfortunately, on our way out in the lift was a not so cleaned up couple of patches of sick, maybe an out of order sign till it was cleaned up properly would've been a good idea! Anyway, it was nice and would return in the future!

"QUICK INPROMPTU OVERNIGHT - IMPRESSED"

Booked into here as a group. Last minute. In the real middle of nowhere so no options if eating out but the food in, although expensive, was very very good, came cooked fresh and was quite filling. There is tons of free parking. The staff are really friendly and accommodating. I world stay here again if I had to. More than one night would be painful with a lack of anything to do. Nice

A modern hotel but with a warm and friendly atmosphere. All the staff are most helpful and friendly. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable and the dining room in modern open style does provide very good food with a variety of menus.

We were in Lancashire for my sisters wedding last weekend. It was my sister who booked us into this hotel and after reading a few reports on here i was a little worried. There was no need to be. The room (205) was very clean and tidy with everything you needed and the bed was massive. We opted for the cooked breakfast both mornings which was very tasty. All the staff were very friendly and we would definitely recommend this hotel. If i was to pick a fault it would be that the drinks in the bar were very expensive.

We stayed here as a group at the weekend and was very impressed with the hotel. The room was lovely and had everything we needed. The breakfast was very tasty too and staff were friendly throughout. The only criticism would be that there is a lack of atmosphere that could be helped with some music in the public areas.

"Champagne Afternoon Tea - Hardly!"

I had bought this as a Christmas present for my daughter and her husband and bought a voucher for myself and my husband. I had booked it three weeks ago and rang to confirm time . We had booked for four, at three, with one member Gluten Free. They had not got the booking in the system but managed to fit us in. It was cold in the restaurant, dark , and no atmosphere. The sandwiches were very small, the scone was lovely, with plenty of jam/cream. The brownie was very dry. The Champagne turned out to be a 5% fizzy wine of which we received half a glass and was most disappointing. We were not offered a refill on our coffee and tea and it was altogether an underwhelming experience. .............wouldn't go again. Very disappointed.

"Afternoon Tea"

I purchased Afternoon Tea via Groupon, unfortunately of all the Afternoon Tea's I have had this was really a let down. In addition to four small finger sandwiches each, the Afternoon Tea included one Dry scone each with one pot of cream per couple, one profiterole each, two very small brownies each and a slice of fruit loaf each. This in addition to a glass of fizz on arrival and a small pot of coffee. Really not worth the amount paid and had I paid full price I would have asked for my money back.

I wasn't impressed by the toilet flush which ran constantly in the room. The bathroom itself could have done with a bit more effort to clean the toilet. The restaurant was a bit noisy and they seemed to be struggling coping with a party of 10 even though there were plenty of tables vacant. The food was rather mediocre, the ribs were quite dry and my wife's stroganoff certainly wasn't to her liking. As for deserts, well the ice cream sundae seemed to be lacking ice cream, of all things. A nice looking hotel but too many little things wrong for me to recommend it.

First off I have to say there is no way this hotel can be classed as 4 star , I've been in better 2 star hotels, this hotels decor is more like a scene from the shining but I'm not sure if it's more 70s or 80s , our room was tiny and it hadn't been cleaned very well,breakfast was basically set out like feeding buckets at a zoo, staff basically ignore you like your not there , I expected more from a hotel that's claims it to be 4 star, would I go back, no I don't think I ever would

"Mothers day celebration"

Booked a table at the hotel on Friday night and could not be more delighted with the quality of the food, customer service and ambience at Merchants venue within the hotel on Sunday teatime. We arrived to be offered a Mothers Day menu which we had not seen advertised on the website which offered 2 courses for £12.95 and 3 courses for £15.95. Food was fantastic starters were generous and very tasty, We all had the Roast Sirloin of Beef main course which was again cooked to perfection with great Yorkshire Puddings and generous helpings of vegetables with a great Jus/ Gravy and well presented. My wife and Mother in Law never have a sweet but were tempted and were not disappointed as was no one else at the table. The service was great, very attentive and a credit to the hotel. We will certainly be going back for food at the quality hotel in the future. The hotel restaurant was both clean and well presented and the chef who we met when leaving needs a mention for his efforts to provide a great meal.

"Mother's Day Afternoon Tea"

I booked the afternoon tea for a party of 6 on Mother's Day. We arrived at half 1 and the staff were lovely throughout. We sat at our table and asked if we had any vouchers; we had group on vouchers which averaged the afternoon tea at £10 per head. Once sat, we were asked if we had any food allergies or requirement, which we didn't and was told our afternoon tea would be out shortly. It was clear the stand was to share between two of us. We had finger sandwiches and cakes, some spring rolls and tea/coffee and a glass of bubbly (which tasted like sweet fizzy wine). The sandwiches were 1/4 size of a slice of bread, and there was 4. They were very small and the bread, very dry. The fillings consisted of normal tuna, egg, cucumber and ham. The scones were delightful and every person at the table agreed. The rest of the cakes were disappointing, the brownie tasted burnt and dry and crumbled, rather than being chewy which you expect. And the lemon cake was also dry and surprisingly very sour and tiramisu pot was very small. I am giving this rating a 4 purely because of the staff, who were lovely and asked us if we were okay and made sure everything was seen too. The price and quantity is what let it down, I wouldn't of payed full price if it wasn't for the group on code. We also found there was a 3 course ‘mother's day' meal offer on for £16 which would have been better value for money. I wouldn't return for Afternoon Tea but the merchants restaurant and staff were lovely.

The hotel is fresh new and all round nice feeling from the off set. I have had to stay in Preston for 5 days due to the weather. from when i arrived to leaving the staff have been brilliant. Kirsty was warm and welcoming and a breath of fresh air to other hotels. Kat the dep manager is chatty and knows her stuff, she seemed to have the staff working more as a family than team and there was a really good buzz between the staff witch rubbed off on the guest's. Ben and lauren kept the bar and were nice and kept everyone company who was either stuck in the snow or away alone. now down to what is normally my biggest let down in hotels, the FOOD!. This time i can not grumble, the food was amazing the guys in the kitchen must love there work as its shown in the food. if you visit the hotel try the specials board you wont be let down! The half chicken should be on the full time menu if you ask me lol. Nice hotel, Great hotel and amazing staff what else could you want!

My wife and I stay at many different type/styles of hotels, this one, for many reasons must be up there. Easy access from the motorways, huge car park. Great open style reception [very welcoming] had a slight problem on arrival, which was dealt with, by the very helpful young lady. Room fantastic, with countryside view. Evening meal very good, Absolute quality breakfast cooked or /and continental. All this with the friendliest most efficient staff.

"Disappointing Stay"

We have stayed here on a number of occasions over the years but quality and value seems to be slowly going down hill whilst the prices are going up hill. Its not dreadful and the staff are pleasant but just not very customer focused. Service at the bar bit slow and inexperienced. We had paid significantly more for an Executive room. Our intial room had two single beds joined but there was no extra thick mattress cover (as they would have at the Marriott up the road) and therefore there was an unconfortable ridge right down the middle of the bed. We had been caught out with this before and so asked for an alternative room. The room we were offered was labelled a standard room, on the reception system but simply upgraded by the addition of a couple of dressing gowns, a coffee maker and a bag of crisps! These have been present in the "standard rooms" when stayed in past. The reception staff couldnt explain what else differentiated a standard from an executive room. I have subsequently looked on the Best Western website and there is little detail on the difference. The rooms are average buisness rooms with showers. They have iron and board, a safe and coffee machine but no trouser press. There were a couple of cobwebs in the room corners and the shower head was damaged. The restaurant and bar lacks atmosphere in evening was almost empty when we looked before heading out. Happily there are a few good local restaurants which are much better option in the evening. For Breakfast the restaurant was total chaos (and we have seen/experienced this in past) with the kitchens struggling to cope, especially when there is a function on night before. Overall stay was disappointing. Room costs have gone up but not standards. Staff would benefit from improved training and executive upgrade a total waste of money.

What a brilliant hotel The outside does not do it justice at all Inside is modern clean spotless free WiFi Rooms are of a good size modern everything in them. There is no chipped paint etc all very well kept indeed. I did have dinner in hotel which was very good served quickly The staff in the hotel are excellent very professional very polite. One of the best teams of staff I have seen in a hotel Thanks to the chap who explained what a best western plus hotel was another excellent polite member of the team

Stayed at this hotel whilst working at Preston. From the outside, the hotel doesnt really do itself justice. The reception area is smart, modern and well presented. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Very professional. The room is clean and tidy, although a bit on the small side. The fitness suite is also on the small size but contains all necessary equipment. The bar area is smart and serves food but I am booked into the resteraunt this evening for a meal. There is no evidence from any previous reviews which contain statements such as “the hotel corridoors smell” and “the hotel isnt warm”. I would definately stay again.

My husband and I came here for a night away to relax and gosh what a mistake! From the minute we got into our room there was nothing but problems. 1. Our room window was broken so there was a draft so we had to be moved to another. However they moved us to a room with twin beds! So we had to be moved again! 2. When we finally moved our new room was even colder than the previous. 3. When we asked for a heater one was brought, but it was broken. 4. The internet and brochures advertise the hotel as having smart tvs, it does not and the staff have no ideas about them. 5. The service is slow and staff were constantly absent from their posts. My husband waited 15 minutes at the bar before any staff member had even seen him. 6. Food we ordered from room service was RANK, totally disgusting. 7. The double bed we should have had was in fact 2 singles that werent even the same size and didn't connect so there was a gap between my husband and I. 8. Breakfast the next day we paid for in our room and that was also awful! Fruit and yoghurt looked like slop, cold tea, croissants as hard as rock and stale and no butter for toast....we then go to check out and the receptionist informs us she needs to authorise our payment again and explained about holding, we have never encountered this before, but she was very condescending and said to us "if you actually stayed at many hotels you would know this is protocol at many of them", bare faced cheek and shows indistinct lack of customer service. My husband and I frequently stay at hotels so no this isnt common place. All together we are absolutely disgusted with this hotel and would never ever recommend it.

It was bad enough having to endure the noise of drilling and hammering but the afternoon tea did not live up to our expectations. Sandwiches were fine but the scones were rock hard - so hard we could not slice them to put the jam and cream on. However, the staff were excellent and the Prosecco pretty good too.

Went for Afternoon Tea on Sunday. They explained there would be a delay in the food due to them hosting a large Christening party and gave us a second complimentary glass of prosecco which was nice. The food arrived and we were extremely disappointed. The only savoury part of the plate was sandwiches. There was an over dried scone with jam and cream, a piece of dry banana bread and sone nondescript brownie and shortbread. Without exception it was the poorest quality afternoon tea I have ever eaten. I will not be returning.

Been here a few times before for after noon tea and it's been lovely. This time not so good. It was my Auntie's 70th birthday I had some flowers, gift and a cake which I dropped off an hour before we got there i asked them to put the flowers and gift on the table so it would be nice when we walked in. They was not on the table which I wasn't happy about!!!! I had to ask for them and i only asked for the flowers and gift. Which they came out with everything including the cake we had only been sat down for 5 mins. We booked for 1.30 but didn't get out food till 2.10. Service was really slow only 1 person behind the bar. it's a good job that my Auntie didn't realise what was going on. I am really disappointed and quite upset. Don't know if I will return here again.

I stay at this hotel at least 4 nights every month. The staff are always very pleasant, friendly and will go the extra mile to ensure you have a pleasurable stay. The rooms are a good size, and very comfortable, with fantastic walk in rain showers. Food is of a good standrad, and made fresh (so may take a little longer than expected) but worth the wait. Always happy to return here for a relaxing night.

Not much to say really , staff are brilliant, rooms so so , bathrooms need to be treated for mould around the showers, nothing major. Rooms need better lighting. Plug sockets by the bed would be my recommendation for immediate attention. Food is good. Very accessible by road.

The staff were friendly and very helpful, Rooms are clean and relaxing, managed to get a full 8 hours of sleep for the 1st time in a while. Facilities are very well decorated and good choice of food options available at hotel bar & grill.

Hotel very nice. Lovely smart common areas. Rooms good. Good sized tv nice shower. We stayed on a travelzoo deal. Had a meal included first night £23 pp spend. just managed to get a 10 oz steak priced at 20.95 and some sauce £2 extra. Nice meal only think was the jug of water we got was manky so asked for a new one again it was the same just added a few lemons to rid the taste a little but never drank the water. Bar staff seemed to struggle using the till and took a long while to get served. (must have been new so cant fault that). Also couldnt pour a pint properly but again can understand if they were new. Finally got a full pint in the end :) the drink prices are too expensive though almost £5 a pint. The guy in front of me was also upset by this. Breakfast was absolutely lovely. Plenty of choice. Very nice. Though couldnt drink the tea as again the water was musty so had orange which was very nice. All in all a great hotel, just wish it wasnt as expensive for drinks as would have liked to stay and drink a few in the bar. But would stay again.

I took my mum here today 8 jan '18 for afternoon tea. This was a present I bought for xmas and we was so excited. We got a babysitter and got all glammed up to be extremely disappointed. I bought a voucher from Groupon for £19 the site said the afternoin tea should have been £40. The sandwiches were stale, the desserts where leftover cakes from the weekend, most of which should have been hot puddings. The scones were so stale they crumbled under the knife and the coffee was cold. This was supposed to be a present and the only thing good about it was the company (my mum). The staff apart from the waitress was pretty rude, the bar tender on arrival sent us to the reception who then ushered us upstairs as if we was dirtying the lobby back to the bartender who then signalled for the waitress to come and sort us. We sat on our own after eating our food and 2 cups of coffee to get up and leave. Nobody came to clear our table or ask us if we was ok and the people who seemed to be using the restaurant as a call center constantly looked over in disgust at us laughing and having a conversation. I will not return here again and will also be telling Groupon of my disappointment.

"A tale of extremes"

First - the good - staff were very helpful and friendly - common areas looked very smart - reasonably priced rooms The not so good - first room looked smart until I found a large amount of dried vomit down the side of the bed and on the carpet. - second room was damp and unaired, and generally a bit shabby. - the worse hotel bed I've ever slept in, and I've slept in a lot. It was like sleeping on the floor. I could actually feel the springs and didn't sleep either of the two nights. Not great when you have a four hour drive home. - carpets very dirty and shower needed a good deep clean. To be honest, if I hadn't have arrived very late in the evening I would've moved hotels. I was at a wedding early the next day. Both the rooms needed a good deep clean. Dried in poo in loo is not my favourite, neither is black shower grout. As far as room one was concerned, I have no idea how the room could be made up and left with that much vomit. If it hadn't been for the really helpful and very apologetic staff member, this would've been one star and I would have left to find another hotel night one. It's a shame, as if these issues were sorted it would be a really good hotel.

After visiting Samlesbury Hall for the works Xmas Party I can highly recommend it as the best venue I have been to for the last 10 years. What a fantastic night !!!!! Great fun, great food and an all inclusive bar. What could be better?. The staff were all lovely and couldn't do enough to assist. The service for food was the best I have ever encountered on a Xmas Party. The compere was brilliant at encouraging team and also whole room activities before hosting a fantastic disco night for all. The night was topped up by a one night stay in a lovely room, which I would recommend to everybody. ...Breakfast was extra fantastic, yummy, and inclusive of all dietary needs. I booked a voucher for Afternoon Christmas tea at the hotel. On arrival the hotel is well presented with friendly service. The afternoon tea was lovely, variety of sandwiches and cakes, finished with a glass of Perry. The service by Rebecca and Iga was excellent. Iga was delightful and friendly, checking on us through out our tea. I would definitely recommend afternoon tea and hope to book in for an overnight stay in the future.

I do like the decor here, both in my very sumptuous room and in the bar area. It did help to induce a mellow, relaxed vibe. My room was located in a very peaceful part of the hotel too, meaning that I had a truly excellent sleep on the one night I was there. Bar staff I encountered were pretty well drilled and pleasant, although I didn't find the lager choice inspiring, not being a fan of Stella and any beer with the word "Lite" in it! The hotel also missed out on a couple of big rounds from my group later on, when we learnt that after 11pm, no card or cash payments could be taken, only charges to rooms that had pre-authorised cards. Unfortunately none of this had been mentioned at check-in, hence many of us in the group paid upfront at check-in, and so after 11pm, couldn't order anything at the bar.

A pleasant enough experience for a business stay over - until the cold shower in the morning. However good the price, it is not worth it to get a cold shower especially in December. Another guest indicated this was not a one off. It does not encourage me to return.

Stayed on a two night deal that included an allowance towards the meal on the first night and breakfast both morning. Situated just off M6. Friendly welcome by staff in open plan reception. Efficient booking in process. The room was clean and of a decent size with all the usual TV/ kettle/ iron etc. Ensuite with shower and toiletries. Free Wi Fi throughout. Ample free parking. Reasonable size menu. The food in the Merchant restaurant was of a good standard and tasty. The breakfasts were good and set you up,for the day. When busy the management need to review the number of hardworking staff as they were stretched in this area. The hot water in the shower seemed to depend on the occupancy of the hotel as it did decrease when numbers of guests grew. Plenty of seating in the bar area where you can relax and partake in bar meals. Floors accessible by lifts. Overall a pleasant enjoyable location.

My wife and I booked a two night stay for the 3rd and 4th of Dec 2017 we only paid £99 and that inc breakfast and £23 per head towards diner, i know, it's crazy cheep. I arrived expecting the worst and to my delight it was all good. So the good bits, Easy to find, very close to M6 Plenty of parking, Friendly reception, decor is not bad at all, Rooms as good if not better than Premier. Good food on limited menu, Great breakfast. Ok so the bad bits Bar had no ice minor I know but that limits the drinks to just beer or wine right. Different music playing in the dining area to the bar so if as we were sat in between you had a mash of music going on. and that's about it. Its not great but it is outstanding value for money and if you are there for work,pleasure or as a stopping point on the M6 its perfect. Well done to all the staff there for being very pleasant without the in your face element. I booked through Travel Zoo for the discount. I cant understand the bad ratings, it doesn't come any cheaper than this and yet its nice.

I booked this hotel with high expectations having read the previous reviews on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, my experience feel way short of this! Upon checking in we realised we had been put in an incredibly small corner room (227). When I say small - there wasn't even room for us to walk around our suitcases when they were at the end of the bed and there was no room for us to put up an ironing board. The bathroom at first glance looked great. However, the shower would not stay hot for more than 1 minute at a time and it leaked all over the bathroom floor. I then went to do my make up in the mirror in the bedroom (thinking things could not get worse), only to realise that the bulb was out in the lamp so I either had to do my make up in the dark or in the now very wet bathroom! We went out for a meal in Preston (pleased to escape the room) and when we returned our neighbour's tv was so loud that it was as though we had our own TV on in our room. This continued until 1.30am when we gave up and rang reception. We heard them knock next door and despite the fact that there was no answer, they did not offer us any assistance or even check with us to see if we wanted to move rooms. The neighbours eventually turned the TV down but it still remained on all night and the walls were so paper thin we could still hear it. Breakfast was passable at best but no fresh coffee and the glasses were dirty. On check out nobody asked us how our stay was (presumably they didn't want to know).

Under the Swallow Hotel flag this place became so run down that, about seven yuears ago, we said we would never stay here again. This year, having joined the Best Western group, it looked worth a try for my planned solo business trip, which eventually turned out to be a "with partner" trip. First impressions are all positive, the bright, modern and very open reception, restaurant and bar are all comfortably modern. The rooms, always well designed and quiet have been given a decided uplift in terms of decor, the huge bed was very comfortable too. Letting the side down rather was the en-suite, just a tad too compact for comfort, the shower was the main problem, thanks to an ill-designed screen it tended to flood the floor, which had lead to unsightly mould growth and a rotting lower door frame. My wife also commented that neither room or en-suite lighting was adaquate for make-up purposes. The staff were very impressive, high standards being maintained both in reception and the restaurant. We enjoyed a very good meal on the Sunday evening and the three breakfasts were very good indeed. All in all a good hotel for business or leasure, very conveniently located just two minutes off the M6 at Junction 31 too - midway between Preston and Blackburn.

I came for a business meeting in Preston and was recommended this hotel. After a very long drive I was warmly welcomed and check in was very easy. My room was nice and cosy, nothing OTT but just right for what I needed for the weekend. I don't have any complaints and if needed I would stay here again.

Stayed for 2 Nights at the Samlesbury on arriving at the hotel we found the receptionist very friendly and helpful and pointed in the direction of our room when entering we found the window open and the heating off which in November is not right for arriving guests even through out stay with the heating on it still was quite cold. We switched the lights on to find the main one flickering on and off this we thought could wait until the morning to report. Had a lovely breakfast the following morning. When leaving for the day I reported the light to receptionist who took our room number and said it would be looked at, on returning later that evening our light had not been fixed nor looked at at we swapped the light bulbs ourselves which meant we then had the main light working but only one bedside, also our room had been serviced but only 1 bath towel was replaced ( 2 in room with only 1 towel to share) went to reception which did not take us long to receive a replacement. Breakfast on the following morning was not buffet style but made to order. I went for the cooked breakfast without bacon but when it arrived it came with bacon but no black pudding which was stated on the menu. Receptionist on checkout was not very warming, no questions on how was your stay just interested in taking payment, this I felt never gave me a option to put forth my comments Overall experience was ok but for 4* I expected a little more. Not sure whether I will stay again

this used to be a very good hotel and very convenient for where I needed to be in Preston. The staff have become rude and not caring, the bar staff and bar snacks are poor and slow, the rooms are always cold even with the radiator on 5 and to top it off I had a very luke warm shower in the morning. it seemed all rooms had no hot water and when the receptionist was question she was "oh sorry about that, now here is your bill" not a discussion or a proper apology or some sort of compensation (which I was not after) but some recognition would have been nice. Will probably not stay again which is a real shame, nice location but so many other things let it down!!

Stayed here for two nights whilst attending a nearby wedding, had a family meal on the Saturday night, very quiet restaurant, good meal and good staff, breakfast was extra to the room £11.99 a little expensive if I'm honest, room was average for this type of hotel, we paid £69 for room only , would use again if we ever needed too.

Stopped off own the way home from an appointment in Blackpool but will now consider just going for a meal out from home (20 minute drive?) because my wife and I were so impressed. My wife had ham hock terrine, homemade I think and fish cakes which I'm sure were but I only got 2 and 3 would have been better value although nothing wrong with quality of either starter. For our main courses my wife had the oven baked cod from the menu de jour which she thoroughly enjoyed whilst I had a whole plaice cooked and seasoned to perfection followed by the homemade lemon tart (I asked) with raspberry sorbet - divine. Our meal was accompanied by a Pinot Grigio, the "wine of the month" which was delightful and not at all expensive. If you are in the area I would recommend or if you don't live too far away and haven't been then give it a try.

Restaurant staff and food were good, the room average, would appreciate drawers for small items,but we could no use the hand basin in the bathroom and were offer a discount, this was not honoured at check out and after several phone calls have still not been able to get the accounts dept, in spite of leaving messages. We will not be back, have stayed with several Best Western hotels in the past, how did this one become Best Western Plus?

A one night stay, fabulous check in by a lovely receptionist one of the most friendly I've encountered. Room was very nice a tadge cold but soon heated up. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely and the service more than excellent. A really good night's sleep and a quick check out. Will definitely stay again when in the area.

"Refurbished but still feels like the Swallow"

Last stayed here back in 2011 - and talk about it often as it was so awful. Our PA booked this hotel for us, a different name and now a Best Western I did not make the connection until I pulled up in the taxi. The Swallow was truly awful - this is not. It is average as despite being much better presented because of the refurbishment it's the really silly things that let it down. The showers (new) do not deliver consistently hot water - even it you turn it right up. The reason? Because the guests are using them at the same time - yes! This is the reason offered by the front desk. Do they not expect people to use the showers morning and evening? The hotel is cold, the bedrooms cold too (might be because the guests have put the heating on). The 'quality' of the food is still poor. But the staff genuinely do try and help. I would not rush to stay here but I would not be unhappy if I'm booked in here again.

I stayed here for 1 night. The room was very comfortable with a super king bed, and a waterfall shower which was great! The gym was a decent size for a hotel, with a few running machines, cross trainers and some weights machines! Hotel was easy to get to and parking was right outside.

Went on Saturday afternoon for afternoon tea. We had booked about a month in advance. We got a groupon deal so we ended up paying £16 in total for the two of us, for the sandwich/cake 3 tiers, tea/coffee and a glass of fizz. Excellent value for money. We went to reception, the lady on there directed us to the bar area. There was a wedding on, and one poor guy behind the bar was trying to serve about 60 people! We took our place at the end of the bar, eventually another girl came out to serve and we got seen after about 20 minutes. The girl served us and took us across to a table in the restaurant area behind the bar. The fizz came promptly, then the food and then the hot drinks. Everything was nice, and we can't grumble for the price we paid. I would go back, I just wish we'd of known that there was a wedding on, we felt very awkward waiting at the bar in amongst the wedding guests. Equally if I was part of the wedding party, I wouldn't have wanted two random people joining in!

This hotel is fine for a quick and convenient business place to stay, being just a minute or two off the M6 motorway. It offers reasonable value for money, particularly compared to some places I've stayed, and I particularly like to be able to make use of the gym.

"Afternoon tea treat"

Went here for afternoon tea on a travelzoo voucher. The food was good, but was a little disappointed in the cake selection. Read other reviews and their cake chose seemed much better, ours was some kind of tiny sticky cakes and a small piece of chocolate, which unfortunately I do not like, but the scones were excellent. The glass of champagne was very welcoming and so were the warm spring rolls. We had no trouble receiving our pots of tea, which as being 4 of us we had one each and no trouble when asked for more. My only bit of criticism was that when we arrived there was a terrible smell, but didn't put us off. The staff were very pleasant and the young lady that brought our afternoon tea did tell us what was on the sandwiches, but it would have been nice to be told what was on the sandwiches previously as my husband does not like tuna. Anyway a lovely afternoon was had by us all and thank you Salmesbury Hotel

I come to The Samlesbury every month for a lunch meeting. We have a private room which is located just off the main dining room. The hotel is really lovely - comfortable, contemporary feel. Nice bar, great food, and the staff cant do enough to help. I really like reception area too - very welcoming and not the usual stuffy desk that you normally find.

Stayed for one night between visits to Skipton and Lancaster on coach trip.The outside of the hotel could do with a facelift but once inside was very well decorated and welcoming.Room was on the ground floor and there was no air con so you have to open the window for ventilation, there was no security device so window could be opened fully, not ideal on the ground floor.Room was spacious and well equipped TV was a 40inch flatscreen with all the Freeview channels.Good quality bathroom with a power shower ended up with a soggy towel on floor[a minor detail].We expected a double room but it was a twin but the beds were very comfortable.The food in the restaurant was very good and the selection at breakfast was excellent.Overall a great stay with a few minor problems.

Excellent hotel which is very handy for the M6 but far enough away to avoid traffic noise. We have stayed at this hotel on quite a few occasions. Comfortable rooms. Helpful staff. Could do with a larger menu choice if you are staying for a few days. Excellent modern 'look' to the hotel only slightly let down by the need of a bit of very minor maintenance to keep up with the wear and tear caused by customers.

We arrived and were shown to good seating area. We were brought the glass of bubbly straight away and it didn't take long for the afternoon tea. They asked if we wanted the tea or coffee now or later. We chose later. When the coffee came it was in a big pot allowing at least cups each. But they asked us if we wanted more, so it was unlimited. It was well worth the money and was enjoyable and relaxing.

Is you are staying in Preston and working at BAE this hotel is a good choice. Its a little far from the main city but transport is not an issue as hotel staff is helpful with taxis. Breakfast is good and rooms are nice.

Nice place ,clean close to m6 plenty of parking .rooms are good with plenty of space and all the things you would need .a little of a let down after the reception area which leaves u have arrived at a very contemporary hotel staff very helpfull .value was okay except for breakfast at £15 on top of the room rate .this is one of the many hotels pushing the boundries on this .there is a greggs/subway over the road .

Stayed at this hotel for one night. I am glad it was not longer. The staff were very nice and helpful. The room was a good size, well laid out, and the window opened fully - except there was no mechanism to keep the window open. The bed was far too hard for my liking. The shower worked very well. The room was mostly clean, but the carpet was filthy and stained. Some of the towels were also stained and had holes in them. I would not expect this from a "4 star" hotel, and I would definitely expect a vacuum cleaner and occasional steam cleaning of the carpet. A softer mattress and a much cleaner carpet would encourage me to try this hotel again.

The hotel was clean and the staff very helpful. Location is good straight from the motorway. I liked the reception area, very open plan and set up nicely. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. no complaints!

In my view, this is an hotel in need of a visit from the hotel inspector. So nearly good, but so many irritants. They start with reception. A very large table at the end of the entrance hall. The reception staff just looked awkward standing there. Change for changes sake I suppose but it looked and felt unwelcoming, the complete opposite of what should have been the case. My room, a "classic double" was ok. I assume they have substituted "classic" for "standard" as it sounded better. There was a bed, a table, an awkward to get to wardrobe, one chair too many and a reasonable shower room. I never worked out the free wifi. There were two different versions, neither of which was user friendly. The staff at dinner were excellent. The food was as advertised but my main course, beef stroganoff, was clearly pre-prepared, probably bought in and heated rather than freshly made, and rather a small portion. The restaurant was gently under lit and soothing. Breakfast was in the same room and the lighting was the same. Except, in the morning, that translates to dark and uninviting. There was no natural light to the room which made it even worse. Put the lights on! People want to be woken up in the morning, not lulled back to sleep! The breakfast was adequate, slightly below what you get at a Holiday Inn Express but similar in that you had to get everything yourself. When I checked out, I commented on the reception table, rather than desk, and also the dark breakfast room. The response was "You're entitled to your opinion"! I am also entitled not to return anywhere that disappoints me. I probably spend around 100 nights a year in hotels and this was my first time at the Samlesbury. I suspect it may also have been my last.

"Easy access from Motorway"

I stayed two nights at this hotel and was pleasantly surprised.The staff like in all operations are the most important, and were very friendly, helpful and efficient. I felt this hotels hovers in a challenging market place, a cross between a holiday inn express or a premier Inn, mixed with a town or city conference / banqueting hotel. Set minutes away from the connecting motorways. The designers have broken away with the formal reception and softened the welcome with a more intimate space by working from a large table. The room I was given was spacious with all the amenities,well maintained and very comfortable , including a very comfortable bed. Bright shower room, free wifi etc... Good car parking facilities and peaceful nights sleep that can be a rarity in some hotels! This is an ideal spot to rest if travelling to /from the region or on a business trip in the area. It has gym facilities, restaurant and relaxing bar so no need to have to venture too far.

I bought a Travel Zoo voucher for a friend & myself as we love having afternoon tea together.The hotel is easy to get to as it is just off the motorway. The views of the surrounding countryside are stunning. The staff were friendly and very attentive and the surroundings were lovely. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Unlike other afternoon teas we have had, you could have as much tea & coffee as you liked. At other venues we have had to pay extra for more tea. We will certainly go again.

We stayed here on a Travelzoo offer over Bank Holiday weekend. While we had a very pleasant stay certain aspects we feel let the hotel down. The reception area, while being ultra modern, does not offer a warm feel as you arrive. In fact the reception team we encountered throughout our stay seemed very aloof and not very welcoming at all. The young man who checked us in was very abrupt and spoke so fast we could barely understand what he was saying. A few taps on the computer and cards shoved into our hands and that was that. Our room was very nice and comfortable and had everything we needed including a Nespresso machine and dressing gowns and slippers which was very nice. Lovely clean modern bathroom with toiletries. Breakfast was very good with a very wide range of continental breakfast and the usual hot English breakfast served buffet style and plenty of hot drinks from the machine. Housekeeping then let the hotel down on our second day by not leaving us any bath towels and only 1 hand towel and by not leaving us any coffee or milk on the refreshment tray. However 2 trips to the not so friendly reception rectified this and although little things like that don't spoil our stay it is a little annoying when basic things like towels are missing. On our second morning breakfast again was plentiful but the coffee machine was not working. We had to ask the waitress for coffee. She brought us a small jug of coffee which just about filled 2 cups. Now we weren't the first people down to breakfast so they must have been aware that the machine wasn't working but they didn't offer us coffee we had to ask for it. About five more tables came down after us and after being asked several times for coffee they finally put some larger jugs of coffee next to the machine. Again you expect basic things like coffee to be either available or offered. So all in all we enjoyed our stay and on the Travelzoo offer it was excellent value for money but if we were paying 4* prices We might have expected a little more attention to detail. Maybe a little training on customer service and meeting and greeting for reception staff and a little refresher course for housekeeping and waitressing staff would pay benefits.

Attended a family wedding here on August bank holiday Sunday and stayed overnight. The wedding was amazing due in part to the professionalism of the hotel staff who could not do enough to make everything run smoothly. The food was excellent and the accommodation was very comfortable . I would highly recommend this venue.

Better than expected weekend deal, not sure what we expected when booked our weekend away. On arrival we cheerfully greeted. Booking in was easy and our room, clean & cosy overlooked pleasant open fields. First nights stay included a meal, not the most exciting menu but the young servers were pleasant and took our food & drinks orders. I chose the squire burger which was tasty, must say a little too much salt but tasty all the same. Room serviced no towels left, a call to reception & the towels arrived within minutes "spot on". Breakfast on both mornings was superb, great choice hot & cold buffet and a selection of pastries. The hotel is off a main road, ample parking and easy access to surrounding towns & cities. No complaints all in all a great weekend and a hotel we would definitely recommend.

It's unfortunate the hotel is situated so close to the main road as the sun terrace is at the front but it was so pleasant that it wasn't a problem. I'd do it again if the opportunity presented.

I stayed for a couple of nights. I was given the furthest room from reception even thought the hotel was almost empty. I ate in the restaurant on the first night, but decided it wasn't good value, so avoided on 2nd night. Breakfast was £10 for continental & £15 for full English, so avoided & bought sandwich in spar store over the road

"Anniversary stay made special"

We stayed on 31st June to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary as we got married here last year. The anniversary stay and dinner was included in our wedding package and this was booked easily and quickly with the hotel. We had a lovely room which had been decorated and there was a complimentary bottle of champagne. We had a really gorgeous 3 course dinner and breakfast the next day. Always lovely service, attentive and never intrusive. This hotel doesn't look much from the outside but give it a try, especially for a special occasion or event.

I stay quite often when visiting relatives. The rooms are always lovely and clean with huge beds and fresh towels daily. Room service is a nice touch and great for when you have been travelling for a few hours and just want to relax. Upgraded rooms are a nice treat with Nespresso machine, bath robe and extra comfy mattress. Huge power showers with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion are also provided. There is also 2 parking spaces for Ladies, right outside the reception entrance, which is sure to make any females arriving at night feel comfortable. I always find the team to be really friendly. The only feeback would be that all the reception team are rather cold and not the friendliest people , as my profession is in a 5 Star Hospitality resort, we would always engage with guests , wish them a pleasant stay and make the effort during the transaction. This does let an otherwise excellent hotel down.

We enjoyed Samlesbury Hotel as part of our discovery of Preston. Being outside town meant I could take walks & reach as far as Samlesbury House - well worth a visit. Our room was comfortable and the breakfasts tasty with a wide selection. We had evening meal once but helpings were meagre with the veg hard to find under the chicken. Our room was comfortable & the domestic staff helpful. Overall, a pleasant stay though a bit pricey for what we got. The receptionists were very helpful especially Philip who did wonders for my wife's malfunctioning smart phone!

Recently stayed at this hotel , as a wedding guest Check in was smooth ,although we had requested an early check in when booking and was not informed that this could be a problem As the company policy is 15:00 hour check in ( the wedding was at 13:00) We had telephoned the previous week to check our booking and check in time and was then informed that although we had requested an early check in may not be available on the day ! ! But were informed that changing rooms and showers are available if needed , However our room was ready on arrival , The wedding went smoothly and staff were extremely professional and attentive Rooms modern in décor and well appointed Comfy bed and nice linen , large spacious shower and complimentary shower products , hairdryer ,iron and ironing board all in room . However due to lots of guest at all hours accessing rooms, corridor doors and bedroom doors being slammed ,didn't get a good night sleep (Extremely thin dividing walls ) Breakfast of a good quality

Myself and my partner stayed here for one night on the 11th August. The hotel and room itself were fine, modern and clean. However, our experience of the food was not pleasant at all. We had an evening meal when we arrived and our rice was extremely undercooked and we were unable to eat it. I advised the waitress and was just told the message would be passed onto the chef. Our breakfast experience was a lot worse, I found a piece of egg shell in my scrambled egg about the size of a 50p. I informed a waitress again and advised her to check the rest of the egg that was being served, she took my plate and I heard nothing more, the egg on the buffet was not replaced. On top of this our room alarm went off at 6am. Overall not a great experience.

Visited this hotel at the end of last month & had a very pleasant stay. The reception & bar area were lovely. Reception staff very pleasant as were cleaning staff. Dining room okay. Our room was very nice ,clean & quiet. It had everything we needed robes, slippers, water, coffee, tea ,hairdryer & a great walk in shower. Plenty of toiletries & clean towels. We had dinner the first evening & although it was very nice we felt there was not a great choice. Service however was very good.. There were 2 coach parties in & the service to them was chaotic & slow. Breakfast was not to our taste as the orange juice was diluted, cold meat & cheese sitting uncovered beside the tea/coffee machine. Toaster was on the opposite side of the room with no signage as to where it was. Cooked breakfast sat far too long in covered dishes and the fried eggs had sat so long they had a crust on them.!!!!.Realise we should have asked for fresh ones but some of the waiting staff quite unpleasant.

We were in a party of 54 on a coach tour of Scotland & this was our overnight stop en route,We found this a very nice hotel,lovely room with walk in shower,tea and coffee making facilities,& comfortable bed.The food was excellent & plentiful,waiter service at dinner, and help yourself buffet for breakfast,Would happily stay here again,& would highly recommend.

Nice convenient hotel. Recently refurbished. Lift clearly wasn't (refurbished) as it takes an age to work. But, if you are spending money refurbishing the building I suggest that you should also commit some money to refurbishing the staff attitudes. Wasn't made to feel welcome, everything seemed to be an effort and clearly no one has suggested that one way to make your guests feel valued is to smile and be pleasant. Worst offenders were the late evening bar staff and the morning receptionist. Try some mystery shopping?

Stayed 2 nights on an offer for our Tour of East Lancs with friends who were 1st time visitors. Nice rooms , ours was nice n quiet at the back of the hotel. The bath towels are the best ever- A huge flufffy white sheet. Free toiletries available in the room. Gorgeous simple to operate shower as a separate cubicle- not over a bath. Evening meal and 2 breakfasts were spot on and commented upon by all of us. The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the M6 and is easily reached on the A59. It's always our hotel of choice for the area and is so much better now it's a Best Western.

"Merchants restaurant within the hotel"

We were bought an afternoon tea wowcher for my birthday so went here. Couldn't find any staff on arrival so looked for the reception, which seemed just like a girl sat at an office desk, very strange, but she was nice and rallied a waitress for us. The food was nice but we weren't given a choice of sandwiches, so we split what we liked, disliked between us. We were given our glass of very nice bubbly but hubby was driving so awaited his cup of tea, then had to ask for milk!! The waitress seemed very tired and not overly happy at serving us "voucher" patrons, which is a shame as if she had been attentive, maybe asked if everything was all right for us, as she had the other tables, we would be more likely to go back . On the plus side the scone was amazing. Warm and very tasty. The place seems a bit run down though and smells musty, like an old house

We arrived for a family party booked for later that evening. We were totally confused by the reception area which looked like a few desks that people were working at, it did not appear to be a reception area, so we walked straight past them liking for reception. The food at the reception was basically rubbish. Cold Jacket potatoes, limp salad and tasteless hard sandwiches. Rooms however were ok. Would probably stay again but would not recommend the buffet offered.

I expect to pay £130 per night for a small room in a decent London hotel. I don't expect to do the same in a hotel in rural Lancashire, miles from anywhere. This hotel has the ambience of a bus stop. Full of coach parties and lone drinkers. Our room, although it was at the end of a long corridor and did have a nice view over the fields, was so small that it was impossible to navigate a relatively small suitcase around the end of the bed to the case stand which, in turn was jammed so it blocked the sole cupboard from opening. There was no artwork to be seen on any of the walls, unless you consider a 50" TV to be artwork. The room was, in all respects, like a small cell. The bathroom had a decent shower - but the drain was blocked so it spewed water across the floor and drenched the bath mat. The toilet flush was jammed so water continually ran into the cistern. One tea/coffee cup was filthy (see photo), and the welcome details/room menu was dry, but wrinkled and stained from having been previously wet. All-in-all, one of the more depressing hotel stays I've experienced over the years, and I've stayed in many good Best Western places.

Stayed on a 2 night Travelzoo offer on 9th July. Greeted by the smell, but not by receptionist, who sat on side of lovely long reception desk facing her laptop and not the guests. No welcoming smile or even a hello. We informed her we had a twin room booked, to which she replied she had us down as a double, then gave us the room card for 107, (again with no smile, and no eye contact). The room smelt disgusting and the wall was crumbling and damp. One of the beds had been pushed against this wall to presumably try and hide the extent of it. We returned to reception to explain the state of it. No apology, no eye contact, but given card for room next door (109). Room smelt fresh, looked clean, but unfortunately the bathroom has a black ceiling covered in mould. We couldn't bear to go through the hastle again, so gave up. I remembered reading about a room with black ceiling on T.A and discovered it was the same room from 2 nd June. The Hotel Manager had replied "I note the comment regarding the bathroom ceiling. I will speak to our maintenance team to ensure that this problem is rectified". Well it definitely had not been rectified!! We were disgusted that anyone would be offered a room which was damp, with a crumbling wall. (We noticed in 109 the beds were positioned normally, not trying to disguise the fact). Why would the hotel expect someone to sleep there in that condition? Why would the hotel then put us in yet another room with problems they knew about? We have been to Best Western Hotels in Ambleside and Arran and have thoroughly enjoyed our stays, which is why we decided to book this one. Never again! Positives: Friendly smiling reception staff next morning who stood behind the desk and faced her customers. Dining, bar, housekeeping staff all friendly. (Unfortunate then that our first impression was of an extremely unfriendly unwelcoming person on reception). Meals were tasty especially breakfast - good quality food. Only negative cooked food could have been kept hotter, helped with possibility of hot plates? Coffee machine broken second morning,so no milky coffees but given jug of coffee by pleasant waitress instead. Lounge bar quiet, few elderly couples and 3 or 4 contractors. Comfortable seats, but pretty soulless. Outcome - Won't come back!

Me and my partner stayed here for 2 nights as we were getting married at Samlesbury hall. From arrival to departure it was a perfect stay. We had breakfast which was lovely and room service was to a very high standard. Even the cleaning ladies couldn't do enough for us. All staff were very friendly. We can't wait to return. We stayed here overnight on a national holidays trip and must say how friendly and welcoming the staff were. The room was lovely with a nice comfy bed and pillows it was clean with a very nice bathroom. Our evening meal and breakfast was excellent and served to us by lovely staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again.

Somewhat isolated from everywhere. Good food and clean rooms. Reception disorganised and somewhat lacking in warmth when you arrive and leave. Staff aloof and have an air of superiority. Not very welcoming and couldn't wait to leave.

Just spent two nights as a couple at this hotel, booked via Travelzoo and got a good deal for 2 nights accommodation, two breakfasts and dinner the first nightfall for £119. The location is handy for the Lake District and the seaside coastline of Lytham St Annes, Blackpool and Thornton Cleveleys and the hotel is close to both A roads and motorways. The staff were friendly and obliging, parking was easy and check-in was a breeze. Our deal was for a standard bedroom and we found this a disappointment. It was well prepared and the bathroom (shower only) had a great walk-in shower, the towels were good and there were the usual complimentary soaps etc. The disappointment was the bed, standard size and the rather cramped space. The room is five-sided (see photo) and the bed is between two bedside tables that are at the same height as your head when you are sleeping, a bit dangerous if you are restless and bang your head on the sharp bedside table corner. For another £20 you can get the executive room that seems bigger and better provided for, my advice is go for it and don't accept Room 223. Although the hotel decor is dated it is well-maintained and the restaurant and bar areas were spacious with plenty of comfortable seating. The food menus were varied and allowed us to switch from a set menu to an a la carte menu and transfer £23 per person for food purchases which gave us plenty of choice. When we had chosen the food was nicely presented, well cooked and tasty and Lauren our waitress looked after us. Drink prices were the same as any hotel, e.g the Echo Falls White Zinfandel was £16.95 per bottle. The second night we ate elsewhere with family but had a drink on returning to the hotel. My first pint Boddington's draft tasted odd and it was switched for a pint of Stella Artois draft without a problem. This also tasted odd and was returned and switched for a bottle of Budweiser, the barman explained that they had a problem with the cellar temperatures and we working to fix it. In conclusion, this hotel is popular with people who travel for business and work purposes and is used by them for meetings as well as a place to stay. We were one of three retired couples obviously in the area for leisure purposes. The staff were pleasant and helpful when needed and the food was excellent. The room was clean, provided all we needed including good free WiFi but was cramped. We'd stay here again but would opt for the upgrade option.

Really enjoyed our overnight stay here... comfortable room and bed. Dinner choice was good and well cooked. A good breakfast to start a day of travel to the Isle of Man. Very pleased our tour operator LJ Edwards of Hailsham had booked us in here.

We were met by a friendly receptionist, who made us feel welcome. Room clean and shower excellent. Breakfast plentiful and well cooked . Only one toaster, which made it a bit of a wait, and coffee machine situated close to a door. Small points which did not spoil breakfast. Dinner however was a little disappointing, very small portions, several guests having to send back their Thai prawn curry, as their count of app 5 very small prawns were lost in the meal. Most disappointing thing however was the overwhelming strange smell on entering the hotel, faintly like the smell of drains. If this could be solved, I am sure all the hard work of the staff would be appreciated more.

This was the perfect venue for the perfect couple, every attention to detail was met above and beyond our expectations. From booking in to the wedding, reception, and evening reception, all went smoothly and everything from the food to the excellent staff was incredible. Our rooms were lovely, clean and the beds very comfortable. Wouldn't have any problem recommending this hotel to anyone. We loved it.

"A good nights sleep"

Booked here prior to a business meeting in Preston the next morning. Rooms very clean and great shower. I was worried about proximity to nearby busy road but room was very quiet and had an excellent nights sleep. Food choice a bit limited but okay and restaurant a bit dark with little natural light. Bar area good and bar staff very friendly. Would stop again if in the area.

Hotel itself was standard conference type hotel, however hard to ignore what I now understand to be a nearby water treatment plant. Room large and comfortable, shower good and towels and toiletries fine. Located on main road, which has its advantages for overnight stays. Petrol station opposite, but road a bit busy for pedestrians to nip across. Dinner was decent. Strange position of coffee machine in the corner near a door. Having said all this, good location for overnight travel stop and easy getaway.

"Buisness meeting with an overnight stay."

I attended a business meeting over two days at the Samlesbury Hotel I arrived after a long six hour drive drive at 1pm but could not access the room until 3pm with a long wait in the bar. The room was spacious and clean but for ventilation you had to keep the window open and put up with the traffic noise from outside might be nice to have a complimentary bottle of water included with the room.

For a 4 star hotel the service here is poor. Executive room was very hot with no air flow or air conditioning. Breakfast was of a poor standard and basic at best. I stayed 2 nights and one morning there was no hot breakfast layed out? Not sure of the reason for this neither did the poor waitress! There was a constant smell around the hotel, when I looked on google earth I understand why!! There is a large water treatments works opposite. I stayed here as I was working locally, I'll find another hotel next time.

I was allocated a room that hadn't been se4viced: bed half stripped,used towels, bin full of rubbish. I was offered another room by reception staff but no hint of an apology or explanation was offered. We ate elsewhere and returned for a nightcap in the bar which was clearly an imposition to the one grumpy member of staff on late shift. My room key didn't work and when I eventually got in the toilet did an impression of Niagra Falls all night which ensured a horrid nights sleep. Awful stay which will never be repeated.

Very slow service in the resteraunt, we were in there for 2 hours and there was only another 8 people in there. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Not too expensive and very clean. The breakfast was very good, one of the nicest I have had, it again service was slow.

Rooms clean, fresh towels daily, shower was brilliant breakfast delicious and the staff were polite curteous and could not do enough i would recommend staying here wholeheartdly. The only draw back i can think of is the drinks are a little pricey and the room doors closing is rather loud

I stayed here on the evening of 5th June, whilst on business in the area. The overall welcome was excellent, and the room spotless. The food menu for the bar meal service was OK, but I was disappointed with the selection of beers which were available - I opted for the Goose IPA, which was palatable, and also Cidre (which was too lively for my liking!) The bar meal (chicken burger) was piping hot when it arrived, very tasty and the only criticism was that I could have eaten it again! Overall rating is well deserved, and I will stay here again next time I'm in the area.

Very modern hotel, immaculate and tasteful decor with a modern twist at the reception. I thought the ham ham sandwich was a bit on the dear side at £6.75 BUT it was delicious! Went to bed at 10.30 but could not get off to sleep till midnight due to a hysterical child screaming nearby. We were in room 203 but I couldn't work out room the family were in. Not the hotels fault at all but I was just about to ring reception when all went quiet! Didn't opt for the breakfast so no comment. Room was fine with everything you could need.

Booked a table for 4pm for the afternoon tea offer which had been given to us as an anniversary gift. We arrived in good time but there were no staff around. Waited about 10 minutes and still no one arrived so we had to go to Reception and ask them to find someone. Eventually we were shown to our table. The room was very dark and did lack atmosphere. We were the only people in. We were asked if we wanted our "bubbles" straight away and we said yes. About 15 mins later these appeared. The afternoon tea itself was very lacking - 4 small sandwiches and 3 small cakes each. One of the cakes was a profiterole with a blob of cream on top and another a small piece of chocolate cake! There was a small scone each with jam and cream. It was very lacking especially for the price paid and I certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

We live locally so took up an offer for Afternoon Tea - arrived Sunday afternoon an hour before time to enjoy a drink in the bar prior to eating. There's a lovely bright bar area with a great snack menu. Entering Merchant's bar to partake in afternoon tea itself seems a tad dark in contrast. Very subdued lighting, simple style, black tables with a brown colour scheme would maybe benefit from a splash of colour and to be better accessorised. Its a bit lacking in atmosphere and I would have preferred to eat in the lighter bar area. The food was nice, sandwiches, small cakes and small scones with jam and cream, although no real "wow factor" and easily polished off. between the two of us. Friendly service throughout.

I had made the booking on line through "Travel zoo", to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The package was for a two night stay, with breakfast on the two mornings we were there, which suited us as we are away with friends the week after our stay it worked out just right for us. The Best Western Plus Samlesbury Hotel is well decorated & up to date. We booked a table for our evening meal, & what a meal, many thanks to the Chef for providing wonderful culinary delights to choose from, but mainly" triple fried chips" to die for, plus many more choices to tempt you. the trip itself was a couple of nights to compliment our anniversary. This place seems like it is ideal for meetings, large spacious ground floor rooms but all quite bland. very clean. We were shown into a large dining room with no windows which was quite depressing. Several people, like us, were having the afternoon tea. Staff were nice and well organized. Food ok; bit odd that we were brought spring rolls and chilli dip to start and this was followed by 4 finger sandwiches each (bit uninspired) , then the cakes which were beautiful and one of the best brownies I have ever had, then came the scones. tea fine. Everything was ok but I cannot say I would go back for an afternoon tea as there are better places in the area. The ambience was a bit 'off kilter'. Parking excellent.

Nice clean hotel, Bedrooms look recently decorated, double shower, large TV on wall. Breakfast very good and the staff were all excellent no one passed you without saying hello etc. We used the Hotel to visit the coast Morecombe and Southport. We would like to stop again and visit more inland areas. The only reason I have not put excellent for this hotel was the bad drain smell coming from the front of the property. There was a wedding on the day we arrived and it cannot have been nice coming to your reception with that stink.

We have stayed a number of times before - since the last visit there is still an overwhelming smell of drains when you arrive - which is not particularly nice. The rooms are clean and well equipped with safe, iron & board, tv etc. Bed was very comfortable - I slept very well. It's more about the location for me. We ate in the restaurant which has improved since the last visit. We had one person that was gluten free and there seemed to be more choice this time. Happy to change things around on the menu. We paid for our meal by card after eating - when we checked out it had appeared on our bill again. We were asked for a receipt which my husband had to go back upstairs and root through the bin for before we were believed! That didn't go down too well - what if we hadn't found it? When I had signed for it - it said transferred which the reception took to mean onto our room - but payment was made to the bar instead of the restaurant - which is what I took it to mean?? Moral of the story - check your bill - probably true of anywhere! Breakfast had a good choice with cooked or continental as well as porridge, cereals etc.

The dinner dance evenings are not to be missed. We upgraded to AI which was more than worth the extra £20 each. Food was amazing and so were the staff. I never usually write reviews but this hotel is definatley worth a visit if your looking for a night out with a difference.. Location is on a busy main road but central for exploring the Ribble Valley and further a field. Rooms are clean and modern my only disappointment was that there is no bath, but the shower is a top of the range shower so I could put up with it for a night or two.

Just returned from this hotel after spending the weekend at my nephews wedding. The rooms were very clean and had everything you needed from coffee and tea making facilities to complimentary toiletries and also a walking shower which was great for my elderly parents. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. The breakfast was fantastic and all tastes were catered for. Well done The Samlesbury Hotel

"Great overnight stay after a wedding!"

We booked 12 months in advance since we were going to a wedding in the nearby Samlesbury Hall. We had originally booked a family room , but about a month before our visit we were called to ask whether our children were old enough to have an adjourning twin instead, since there had been an overbooking. For us this wasn't a problem as the children were old enough, and the wine in the room made up for the error. We quickly nipped to the hotel in between the photographs and the reception to check in and drop off the bags. Check-in was efficient and we were back at the wedding reception within 15 minutes. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable and the road noise could not be heard. The shower was great too! Breakfast was amazing. My kids love a buffet breakfast and they were not disappointed. With cereals, pastries, toast and all the expected items for a full English, it was impossible to leave the room hungry. The staff were attentive, and removed used dishes/plates quickly. All in all, faultless. In our party was also my parents and grandparents (in their 80s) who all agreed that the hotel was fab. In fact, my grandparents are going to book again as it close to the M6 and could be base to visit lots of places.

We were at a family wedding at Hoghton Tower but the wedding party were staying overnight at this hotel. We arrived after the church service and approximately 70 people checked in quickly and efficiently, we were allocated our rooms which were all ready (1.30pm) and just had enough time for a quick drink at the bar before the coach took us to Hoghton Tower. It was just unfortunate that there was only 1 bar person serving at this time so it took a long time to be served so this did frustrate a few guests. We arrived back just after midnight, our rooms were comfortable if only requiring better soundproofing on the doors. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were very attentive, replacing low food items promptly and providing freshly brewed tea or coffee. Overall this was an excellent choice for an overnight stay, I'm only sorry I cannot comment on the other facilities the hotel has to offer as ours was a brief visit.

This hotel is situated not far from Blackburn and Preston. Rooms clean, quite modern. Staff friendly. Food in restaurant very good, i can recommend the bbq chicken wings, the salmon had been cooked just right. All where reasonably priced. Would recommend staying here again

Nice hotel in a good position for getting to places like Clitheroe and the Forest of Bowland. Good ambience and very pleasant staff. Room was big enough, bed a little bit tired and worn at the edges {people sitting on the side of the bed}. Shower facility was very good. Breakfast could have been hotter, perhaps heat trays need to be electric!!! Staff very accommodating. Overall a pleasant stay for 3 days.

The ultra modern reception area was a surprise but the staff, accommodation and catering were excellent. A very enjoyable stay and very reasonable as booked through a third party website. The excellent weather helped.

long weekend to visit family - hotel very comfortable, able to enjoy a nice quiet drink in the lounge bar, staff on hand and very helpful. Room very comfortable and roomy, quiet, would say that the design of the shower led to the bathroom floor becoming a bit of a pool with water......Dining was good, again staff very helpful and food was great value for money, especially the Fizzy Friday!!

"Such a disappointment "

Nice enough hotel. Very pleasant staff. Probably the worst meal I've ever had! Garlic mushrooms made with garlic salt, too strong on a bit of toast, Beef Stroganoff was the worst I have ever had. Tasted of water, fat and bland rice. It was also the smallest portion I've ever been offered in a restaurant and I travel for work a lot!!! I'm not fussy and accept we all have a bad day but ..... Waitresses were genuinely upset and refunded my glass of wine. Felt sorry for them as they can only serve what they are given. Won't be returning.

Arrived late but had called to say I was running late, very short stay but very pleased with the standard of the room, the shower and the breakfast. I cannot comment on the restaurant but will try to eat here when I stay again.

"Great Venue | Great Service | Great Value"

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Christopher on the front desk, he made us feel very welcome and he was most personable and professional. Christopher was very attentive and asked if we were attending an event at the venue, or if we wanted to dine in the hotel or use the fitness facilities during our stay. Once checked in, Christopher made sure that we were aware of the hotel wifi which was really good throughout the entire hotel for laptop use and mobile use. The bedroom was very clean and modern in design with everything you could need. We stayed on the third floor in a club room, therefore were free to use Nespresso machine/pods with no additional charge, kettle chips and biscuits. Yum! In the bathroom was a huge, walk in shower, always a bonus in my partner's books - as he isn't the fan of showers in baths being quite tall. The sitting area is very luxury/boutique in style which made for a relaxing night with drinks (at good/affordable prices!). We had a great nights sleep. Extremely comfortable beds. Cannot fault. Great venue, great staff & service, great value! Thank you! :)

"Do Not Stay Here!"

The staff at this hotel are very rude, inconsiderate and unhelpful. Do not trust the general manager Hayley Lane, she is absolutely despicable and showed no sympathy or understanding to our situation. There was a complete lack of any customer service at all by any of the staff dealing with our booking and we were treated disgustingly. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were no longer able to make our booking and were passed around from pillar to post. We were told our refund would be dealt with once the general manager returned as she was not available for over a week and with no other capable member of staff available we had to wait for the return of Hayley, who returned after our booking was due and had taken our money and so was no longer interested in anything else.

Unfortunately reception were not expecting us and had no record of our booking through trip advisor despite us having confirmation of booking. On investigation we were told that trip advisor had an old email address, this was the reason for them not having our booking. So be be careful if booking through trip advisor. Luckily they had availability as it would have ruined our evening if not. After initial issues though room was lovely, breakfast fantastic and an enjoyable stay.

"Spotless"

Have stayed at this Hotel previously. The same clean spotless reception and friendly staff welcomes you on arrival, The room was an adequate size and even the dog was happy there. The meal we had there was delicious and promptly served considering there was a coach load of people staying there Peaceful nights sleep although my partner found the mattress a bit firm. Complete self service breakfast that sets you up for the whole day. The staff even went out of there way to serve Gluten free product for my partner. A perfect spot to stop off between Aberdeen and Weston super Mare. We will be back.

This was our second visit on our way home from Scotland. Our room was on the second floor and was more than adequate,although I personally found the bed too firm .The shower was amazing . All the staff we met were so helpful,and nothing was too much trouble,and believe you me I asked lots of questions. The food was excellent with plenty of choice. I am wheat/barley and lactose intolerant, and the chef was very accomodating for my needs. The breakfast was also excellent ,with so much to choose from and all piping hot. Again the staff were very helpful with my dietary intolerance. We had a dog with us ,and there is a large grassy area at the back of the hotel to exercise them. We will certainly return again and I would highly recommend this Hotel to friends and family.

Good location for our needs, clean hotel but check in/out reception 'island' a bit awkward with unusual seating area. Food choice limited and a bit expensive but staff friendly and helpful. Would stay again if in that area and good deal on offer.

Really enjoyed our overnight stopover at this hotel. Very convenient for motorway. Pleasant & helpful staff; good catering although breakfast left a little to be desired probably as we were near to cut off time - that said it didn't spoil our stay and I would certainly use again.

The room was very clean & comfortable. But the housekeeping left a little to be desired. The buffet breakfast on Saturday & Sunday was excellent, but on Monday you had to order your breakfast from the waitress. When it arrived it seemed like the leftovers from the Sunday's breakfast. It was sent back and when it was returned it was still inedible & cold.

"'Day-After' Mothers Day Treat"

I booked an Afternoon Tea for my elderly Mum and we went looking forward to a champagne treat. We were not disappointed. I had previously spoken to the staff on Reception to ask for a Bucks Fizz, rather than a neat champagne, and they could not have been more accommodating. Our welcome was warm and friendly, and we were quickly shown to a well-presented table. The service was quick and unobtrusive and the warm savouries were lovely. The sandwiches were freshly made, plentiful and a good selection of fillings. The little cakes were delicious and the scones, jam and cream also good. There was a good selection of teas and, in fact, the whole was so generous that we had to request a 'doggy-bag' to take home what we were unable to finish. I would recommend the location for a pleasant treat.

"Great place to stay as a base for exploring the Forest of Bowland"

The hotel was our base for a few days exploring the Trough/Forest of Bowland. Comfortable, clean and quiet room, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast. Although physically close to the Bowland area, we discovered actually getting there took a bit longer than we thought it would due to road access not being great - but that's hardly the hotel's fault.

"Disappointing"

Nice bar area and nice room but staff service was not great. Ran out of all prosecco for our celebration meal - they were advertising buy one, get one free. Dinner - one order was wrong, drinks took ages to arrive, complicated way to make everyone pay for their advertised offer. Toilet was not working in friends room - they informed reception but was not fixed during our stay. Charged twice when we settled the bill - luckily we checked it! Staff not very friendly or attentive.

What an excellent hotel! We arrived at just before 1pm and on our booking it said our room wouldn't be ready until 3pm, but the staff already had our room ready and waiting so we could change ready for the wedding we were attending. The staff on reception were most helpful and friendly! The room was spacious and had a lovely walk in shower and complimentary shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion which smelt divine!! Breakfast was worth paying the money for!! Defiantly stop here again if we had an event on in the area!

"Poor service from start to finish"

We chose to stay at the Salmesbury Hotel as our friends were having their wedding at a venue close by and this hotel seemed to offer the nicest, closest and best value for money accomodation. Unfortunately we were left wanting by the customer service we recieved. The room was clean, comfortable and good for what we paid however that's it. We arrived mid afternoon and entered the hotel to an empty reception desk that actually just looks like a large table. We waited a little while and were met by a quiet reception is who looked like we were an inconvenience wanting to check in. Nothing was explained to us about where things were or if we wanted dinner booking or when breakfast was. To cut a long story short non of the staff were going above and beyond especially at breakfast where they had run out of most things by 9.15 and tried to clear our table every time we went to get a coffee or food. Overall not a pleasant experience and wouldn't stay there again.

"CREDIT CARD CHARGED TWICE!!!!!!"

We booked this hotel through trip advisor end of Feb for an overnight stay in March. Booking was easy and received confirmation email of one standard double room. Turned up on the day to be told by a very inefficient trainee that I had booked two rooms with interconnecting door. Showed him the email on my phone to show the confirmation email of one room only and he went away and returned to say that was ok. We were staying on room only and to be honest the room was small but clean and ok for the price paid . Now the fun starts!!!! Received our credit car bill yesterday and we have been charged twice for our room!!! Rang the hotel and through the automated system chose to speak to the accounts dept. Message to say no-one there and couldn't leave a message as memory full!!!!!!!! spoke to receptionist at 13.15 and she said she could sort but very busy and would ring back. Rang again at 16.15 told be new receptionist that shift had changed. She wasn't authorised to repay but previous receptionist back following day at 13.30 and she would ring us asap. Now 20.30 following day and we are still waiting!!!!! We have now contacted our credit card company to deal with direct. Will not book a best western plus hotel again and to be honest won't book through trip advisor again. Very diappointed

"Two Night Stay"

We booked an offer for two nights B&B, one dinner and a bottle of wine and were really pleased with it. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and the food really good. The service for dinner was a bit slow and on the second morning we went for breakfast after a coach load had just eaten and it did take a long time to refill the dishes. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay. We ate here the second night too as we had enjoyed it the first night. The bedroom and bathroom were a decent size and there was plenty of hot water and a good powerful shower, You can walk to Brockholes Nature Reserve from here but it does take about an hour to reach the Visitor Centre. We did walk there and by the time we walked there and around Brockholes and then back to the hotel we were tired out! There isn't anywhere near the hotel really so you do need a car. The free WIFI was fine and there is a huge car park. Meaning to stay again sometime if we get a similar deal.

"Disappointing - Afternoon Tea"

The hotel when you walk is has been beautifully refurbished. We turned up for Afternoon Tea for mothers day and sadly the service was extremely poor. The lady that greeted us was extremely confusing. Our table was not ready despite many empty tables, we then went to the bar where we had to wait for 5 minutes for someone to serve us. The lady then returned advising we needed to be seated for the order to be charged and processed and we would delay if we wanted to finish our drinks in the seats we were in. One of the members of our group was dairy intolerant (a common intolerance) and the selection she received was appalling. She had no replacement for the scone, 4 measly finger butties which consisted of the selection that was available removing all dairy items, so she had cucumber on white bread, smoked salmon on white bread, ham on white bread. As you can imagine these were extremely dry and tasteless. The sweet selection was fruit. Very unimaginative and poor considering there should be an onsite chef. I will not be recommending this to anyone with dietary requirements.

Very poor service, never any staff around! The afternoon tea stand was very poor, a couple of finger sandwiches and cakes! Would not recommend this. Lovely hotel with a lot of potential, needs someone to bring some new ideas into it.

"Afternoon tea"

I was treated to afternoon tea for Mother's Day via groupon ! The hotel is lovely and clean! And that's all I can say positive!! The hotel was empty never a good sign, except I think they had a conference on. When we found out where we weren't meant to be it was abrupt and uninterested. We were seated in the restaurant and asked what we would like tea or coffee before the afternoon tea tray came out when it did it was so disappointing I have been to many afternoon tea venues and this one I will not be coming back to or recommended unless you a mouse with a little appetite. The scones were rock hard and the "small" cakes were very disappointing. I would have complained but the only time we saw the staff was when they brought the food out, even when we left there was no one around !!! Very upset Mother's Day present.

Although the hotel wouldn't be classed as in the best of locations i.e. Just off the motorway and situated on a busy junction...when you enter the hotel itself it doesn't disappoint. We were allocated a superior room facing the back of the hotel with very nice views! We had a few extra facilities in a very comfortable, quiet room. We stayed for a two night break and ordered dinner on arrival. The evening meal was excellent as was the breakfast and the staff were very accommodating and polite! We had a great stay and will most definitely be returning!!

The hotel is ideally located for travellers to Preston and Blackburn or as a break to a long journey on the M6. The rooms are small but on the plus side have very comfortable beds. I only dined in the bar area but the food was of good quality and the menu presented plenty of choice. If I was to summarise this hotel I would say good value for the rates but in need of refurbishment. Julian
