Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel

We were visiting Port alberni, with a pile of friends, when we stopped at the Barclay beer and wine store, the women that was working there , was so rude, Now a days when jobs are scarce, you would think you would be happy to have one, and at her age, apparently locals says her name is Marianne or mary anne, and they all have the same comment. Rude.

Excellent snd most comfortable room. Service very good. Restaurant - very average and unsophisticated standard fare. Outdoor pool looked very nice. Well equipped gym. Well situated hotel for local attractions.

the Barclay is an excellent hotel for both service and value. Stayed gain overnight 28 July, 2018 while enroute to Barclay Sound. Staff was polite and accommodating as usual and our room was clean and the beds there are so comfortable. The breakfast was also excellent and was 20% off with the room booking, a nice little bonus. Highly recommend this hotel

Our stay in Port Alberni started out with disappointment. We had booked at another local hotel that turned out to be terrible - their website and price point were very deceptive. Thank goodness for the BW Barclay! The front desk staff were able to arrange for two rooms side by side on one day's notice. Outstanding service, cleanliness and amenities. The staff here are terrific! Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Things we loved: - so clean - staff were great - strong reliable wifi - amazing fitness centre - 12:00 checkout - breakfast at Stamps was delicious and well priced - pool was really nice, but we didn't get a chance to use it Great experience - we will definitely stay here when we are in Port Alberni again.

We stayed for 2 nights on our Vancouver Island trip in Port Alberni, the Hotel is in a good location, the rooms where super clean, and the beds very comfortable, the mattresses are just perfect, not too soft ,not too hard... it has a gym, an outdoor pool, although the gym is in the basement it is very roomy and has really good quality Equipment, also free guest towel and water. the pool has a good size for swimming. The Hotel has a Pub, and Restaurant( with Breakfast service at a discounted rate for Hotel Guests) in it ,and a Liquor store on the Corner. The Staff was very friendly and welcoming, and I was pleasantly surprised by this neat Hotel. it is a great choice if you want to explore the Pacific Rim N.P. for a day trip I would definitely stay there again!

Staff were more than friendly. Dealt with restaurant staff, front desk and room service, and everyone was willing to help anyway they could. Rooms were large and clean. No issues. Cleanliness was good. Beds were comfortable and modern.

On business with family tagging along. Amazing staff, great rooms and the food top notch! I come here every time I'm in Port Alberni. I was surprised Peter the Owner of the hotel helped with my luggage to the car. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone! One of the best I've stayed at.

We only had the pleasure of staying one night. The hotel is clean, appealing, friendly staff and a very good restaurant where we had breakfast. Most important was our room. We had a king room with the BEST mattress, very nice linens and the room was spotlessly clean! Highly recommend!

Very nicely finished hotel in the final throes of renovation. Only double beds in the two bed room but it would have been cramped with anything bigger. We had just an overnight stay so we're not able to take advantage of any of the facilities

Best place to stay in Port Alberni, and not just because all other hotels/motels are pretty shabby, run down affairs. Service was professional, with small town charm. Rooms were super clean and best of all did not smell of Febreeze. Good portions of food and a pretty extensive menu for a small town.

We stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a small road trip from Victoria our aim was to take the scenic trip with the Lady Rose Marine company on the Francis Barclay which was worth the trip. We also stopped off at Ladysmith and had a coffee on the beach and at the Goats on the Roof deli both recommended which are reviewed separately We were put at ease by a friendly funny and very amicable receptionist and checked in with no problem. Rooms are really comfortable and well equipped hair dryer, iron and board coffee etc and the room had working air com. Great touch was the usb connector in the bedside lamps nice detail in this tech savvy world!! There are also vending and ice machines on different floors We had a drink in the bar one night which was nice sat by the pool again with great service and a menu that looked good with all the usual suspects. Note for travellers and top tip.: We booked through booking.com but in the future I would book direct or would leave the breakfast option out or at least check the deal as it was not like England or some other places where breakfast is standard. On this booking it was a fixed separate menu as part of the booking.com deal which was perfectly acceptable but a little concise in places! If I were to do it again (and we would) then I would check any deal and just pay on the day from the menus which looked good (note to self as this was a rookie mistake!!??) The hotel were happy to serve from the main menu but we would have to pay again and because of the deal we could not get the cost of the deal reimbursed against the full menus. This is not a criticism of the Hotel just a quirk if the deal and as I said they were happy to add extras!! All in all this was a great comfortable stay easy parking lovely helpful staff and good location for the boat trip

We recently spent a night at the BW plus in Port Alberni as a stop over. We had supper and drinks in the lounge and our server Cam was phenomenal. Perhaps the best and conscientious service we've ever experienced. She went above and beyond and it was truly appreciated. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Our room was clean and comfortable! We would highly recommend staying here. We will continue to stay here every time we come through Port Alberni.

Good: Professional hotel with all the amenities you expect of a hotel of this category. Location quite central in downtown Port Alberni. The rooms are clean and spacious for a decent stay. There is a nice couch in the room. Ok'ish: Breakfast: The restaurant style breakfast takes time, you don't have an exact understanding of what you have ordered before you get it, and it is not inexpensive. It might be our ‘European' tick that we are favouring the buffet style breakfast. There are good breakfast alternatives close by. Quite noisy place: The rooms facing north are next to some fans/noisy technical equipment on the roof below. If you want to close the window: also the built-in aircon is not the most silent one. To be improved: Nothing of relevance. You get what you expect, don't expect more.

Not absolutely sure of our room title but we had a suite with 2 queen size beds with large screen TV and a separate sitting room with sofa and desk with 2nd large screen TV. Room was equipped with small refrigerator and small microwave. Very Clean. We get senior rates as Best Western Rewards or AARP rates are also available. On-site restaurant offered 20% discount voucher and was truly one of best breakfasts on our 2 week journey across Vancouver Island.

Stayed here for 1 night while in Port for business. The check in was very quick and friendly. The room was very well appointed and looks to have been recently renovated. The bathroom was clean and done well. The only small negative was the remote control on the tv, all the buttons did not work, very very minor. Really like the hotel and would stay here again!

Front staff were very accommodating with our bikes for storage. King Room was a little small but was clean with a comfortable bed and pillows. Overall, the staff in the hotel and lounge made our visit very pleasant.

We were in Port Alberni for a fastball tournament June 9 and of course we stayed at the Barclay. We really like this hotel and I have brought fastball and hockey teams here for years. We love the restaurant and especially the attitude of the staff that go above and beyond to accommodate our group (try the All In breakfast). Rooms are comfortable that the suites are great for parent and player gatherings. It is also located close to the sports facilities which minimizes travel time and being allows us to deke back to the hotel between games.

Hotel was for one night only but very clean and quite. Beds were comfortable but bathroom was a little small. Ok for one person but if you got kids it might take some flexibility if you need to be in there assisting them. Grabbed a beer in the bar which was busy for a Monday night but had great staff.

You will be greeted by friendly helpful staff. The hotel decor and amenities are up-to-date. Internet speed is good and workout room is well equipped. I don't do pubs or bars but there seems to be a popular bar in the lobby area and the restaurant has good food.

All staff were friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. My son's wedding ceremony and reception were held at the hotel. Everything went very smoothly thanks to Staff members. The General Manager, John, was on hand throughout the evening to ensure nothing was needed. He even cleaned up a minor wine spill at the head table quickly an efficiently. Staff at the front desk, housekeeping, restaurant - all very polite and friendly. Rooms were very nice - beds super comfy. I highly recommend staying here

This hotel is a great place and I ave stayed many times all for work. It's quiet and clean. The staff is very helpful and kind. The restaurant is very good and overall a very comfortable place to stay when In Port Alberni.

Port Alberni is the start of our spring / summer overnight getaways. We always stay at this very nice facility. The staff have obviously been trained in customer service. Renovations are beautifully designed, and professionally done.

At first, we thought this hotel seemed more like a Sheraton than a Best Western, even as Plus category hotel. Front desk staff were very friendly, professional and efficient. The decor in the public areas and rooms was great, and we loved all the nice local-themed art throughout the hotel. We were worried at first that the liquor store on the property and the traffic would be issues, but they weren't at all. The bed was comfortable, and having an armoire in the room instead of closest was an excellent idea. The restaurant is an integral part of the hotel, and is equally well run, with friendly staff, good food and nice ambience with the large working gas fireplace. We have a standard request for a high floor room, far from elevator and not every hotel notices - this one did!

Reception and resturant personnel are nice and friendly. The service is excellent. Room and washroom is clean. Check in and checkout is fast. Downstairs restaurant is nice and tasty. Room service is nice. No complains... If I'm going back to port Alberni I will choose it again

Excellent Service. Hotel was under renovations for pool and sauna, but you would not have noticed as it was very clean and quiet. Would definitely stay there again. Restaurant food and service was very good.

I have traveled around the world for business, visiting 10 countries in 2016 and 5 countries in 2017 in 8 trips, staying in 5 star hotels wherever I went, and I must say, I had never experienced such a comfortable bed in any of the hotels I have stayed in. The bed at this hotel felt like a loving hug. I shared the room with a friend and we both felt that it was an extremely dreamy bed. You have to at least spend one night there. You haven't slept well until you have spent the night at the Barclay in Port Alberni.

Nice hotel well kept, great central location. Breakfast was very good. Comfortable bed, updated decor. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Free parking, large parking lot, never an issue finding a spot. We would definitely stay there again

Everything was wonderful. Quiet, clean, up to date, everything you needed in the room. Great staff. Good restaurant. Nice bar with friendly staff. Very helpful and caring. Beds are comfy. Check in and out fast and efficient.

Our stay was very pleasant. Rooms were clean, climate control was excellent. Staff were friendly. Restaurant had good food. The hotel was very close to where we were doing business. We had a problem with WiFi on our second evening but we didn't report it to the staff as it wasn't so important that we get connected at that time. I felt the hotel was worth the price we paid. It was quiet at night so sleeping was no problem. It would have been nice to have a microwave, however we only needed to get hot water for tea and that was possible with the coffee maker.

If you have any reason to stay in Port Alberni then you need to consider staying at the best Western Plus Barclay hotel. We enjoyed amazing service, beautiful and clean well appointed rooms, in addition to super friendly and helpful staff. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the portions are huge. Two thumbs up for everyone involved, including the clerk at the liquor store who advised us that the restaurant would give us proper glasses to enjoy drinks in our rooms.

I made the last minute decision to stay in Port Alberni a few weeks ago due to bad weather. I contacted the hotel an hour before check-in and was offered a very reasonable rate. The room was clean and comfortable but I did find the bathroom on the small side. It appears there was a partial renovation of the room as it did appear to be freshened up. The restaurant on site was very good and there is a liquor store attached as well. The staff were very accomodating to my last minute check in and the bed was comfortable. I would definitely recommend this property for any business stays.

I don't review things too often but I am opening a trip advisor profile just to let everyone know how we felt about our stay. I have travelled a fair bit and stayed in many hotels. My wife and I both feel we have never had a better experience in any hotel ever, and that includes an overly expensive Disney resort where the service is supposed to be the best. The staff were amazing from the folks at the front desk to the great gang in the Stamps restaurant. The food was really great, some if the best French onion soup and a really delicious schnitzel. We were so amazed by the cleanliness of your location. We commented that the facilities were as clean as our home and I like things spotless. Thanks so much for an amazing stay and we are looking forward to staying with you again.

I have been here several times and always received great service. This time the staff at the Barclay went above and beyond when we had to evacuate for a tsunami warning. The staff were calm and provided detailed instructions on what and where. They were clearly well trained on emergency procedures - and still had a smile on their faces.

Hotel room was clean and quiet. It was probably the best sleep I have had in a hotel. The staff were helpful and efficient. Great restaurant in the hotel and nice restaurants in town as well. The staff were great with our Atom hockey team. I would be happy to stay there again.

Arrived late and had ferry issues and the staff at this Hotel were TOP NOTCH! Made sure we got checked in efficiently...needed and extra pillow and blanket and guy got it right away! Front desk lady was a little short and cut me off a few times but I am a desk agent at a hotel and it's NOT EASY. Beds were a little too firm for me but that's just a personal preference. Only real negative was the room smelled VERY STRONG OF PAINT. They must have painted the rooms very recently and maybe didn't ventilate long enough. Overall good value!!!

Very good value for money; staff friendly and helpful - only problem was our son was stuck in the lift for 15 minutes! Rooms were very well fitted out and beds comfortable. Well situated for travelling to the Pacific West Coast as well.

I hadnt been here before. Excellent place too stay. Nice friendly staff. Great updated rooms and hotel and very comfortable beds with comforters. The fitness centre is packed full of equipment. Outdoor pool. Indoor hot tub. Great experience. No included breakfast but was given a 20% voucher for stamps cafe. An attached pub as well.

Nice place to stay to stay.We were disappointed the Hot tub was out of order the one night we tried to use it. We received a free breakfast for the two Christmas holidays which was a nice treat.The location is wonderful, very easy to find.

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at the Best Western in Port Alberni and were delighted with the staff, accomodations and amenities. Spent some time in the lounge, delightful server. Had breakfast in the restaurant, server obviously didn't get enough sleep as she appeared grumpy. Food was good though. The front desk staff, to a person, were friendly and helpful. We definitely would stay there again because of the reception we received from them.

I am overall satisfied with this location and would recommend it for business or pleasure! The place is clean, the staff is always awesome and have never had a bad stay at this location at all! Recommend for sure!

From check in to check out we found the staff friendly, help full and courteous. Our room was clean and well equipped. We only stayed one night but have stayed at this Hotel on numerous occasions and found the service the same each time.

This is a fantastic Best Western Plus. I travel a lot through out the year for work purposes and stay in various different hotels. Everyone was very professional and friendly!! The Bar was a great treat after 2 long days of traveling to get to Port Alberni. Jackie at the Front Desk and Tracy in the Bar are great ambassadors for the area and the hotel. Very clean, quiet, comfortable and great location.

Great hotel in Port Alberni. We used this as our base for explorations in the area. Hotel is clean and comfortable. They have a sports bar and café onsite as well as a liquor store attached. Café has a good breakfast and decent dinner food. It was great when we didn't feel like leaving the property to get a meal and when we got in late the first night. Room was very nice and comfortable. It looks like it was redone recently. Bathroom was small but done very nicely, really has everything you need. Everywhere in the hotel was clean and looked very nice. Staff was helpful, friendly and professional. There is a travel center where you can print boarding passes. I would recommend and stay again if in the area.

Had to stop here unexpectedly. Front desk staff were so accommodating and courteous - both at check-in and check-out. Room was very comfortable and very clean. All in all, this is a convenient and comfortable place to stay. Highly recommended.

Everyone here is kind and professional. The property is clean and comfortable. Food at the restaurant is good but I keep coming back because I am treated well. Everyone on staff is great. I always feel valued.

This was a one night, winter, business stay. The check-in process was smooth, unfortunately the food at the pub stopped serving before I got there (9PM) so I had to drive to find a pub and the hockey game. Bed was comfortable, very comfortable! and Check out was smooth. Nice to have a well priced quality breakfast IN the hotel with a discount for guests.

I am very particular about cleanliness in rooms and this Best Western Hotel was perfect - clean throughout. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly, helpful and always smiled during conversations. We've decided that we will stay here the next time we come to Port Alberni.

We were impressed with the upgrades to the hotel, cleanliness, bedding, the room was perfect. The staff most helpful and pleasant, a pleasure to deal with. My son also uses this hotel when on business. We would have liked to use the hot tub but did not have the time, maybe next time.

The Best Western experience is always consistently good. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the service in the restaurant/bar is friendly and attentive and there is a reward system for which you can get gifts or reduced room rate. This particular hotel though had been upgraded and the room smelled like new carpets. The good thing was that the windows opened so that the room could be ventilated.

Just a place to stay. Lots of parking and well located. Room was clean and just fine. Staff was friendly. Has elevators and a restaurant. Beer and wine store too. Little fridge in the room and beds were comfy enough. Clean bathroom.

We stayed here for 2 nights to explore the surrounding area as we found it cheaper and very convenient. The room was large with all facilities. The wardrobe was a little dated but clean. Our room looked out over the parking lot and road but we weren't disturbed by noise. There is an outdoor pool which was nice to have the free use of. This was clean and empty when we used and got the late afternoon/evening sun which was nice. No breakfast was included with our rate so we ate in the town. There is ample parking and the staff are very friendly. It's within walking distance / easy drive of the boardwalk where you can watch the bears across the river at low tide.

I arrived back again for work purposes and everything was in place and staff was once again very receptive to me arrival. The check in staff once again had a great attitude and made sure the room was as I requested. Very quiet and always exceptionally clean.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Barclay Best Western Inn and would be happy to return there,on future trips.The staff was very approachable , well groomed and mannered. I would also like to add that any situations that I encumbered that they seemed happy to assist me.

Clean, well priced. Friendly staff. My only complaint is they need more staff on at peak times in the lounge. Long wait for drinks, even longer wait for menus. Food delivery was normal. We only had nachos - but they were good. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere.

The hotel was recommended to us by a family member in Port Alberni. We were thrilled with our stay. The room was perfect and super clean. The staff were very friendly and check in and out was a breeze. We didn't use a lot of the hotel services as we were with family most of the time but we did enjoy a lovely breakfast one morning. The serves were wonderful and the food very tasty.

the Barclay is located in a very convenient area of the little city that sprawls in many directions.... the hotel is quiet and has good restaurants ... the staff are knowledgeable and helpful.... off season prices provide great quality for the price

Nice and comfortable room. Lots of parking space. Elevators are available for all floors. Express Check-out worked for me. Price was very competitive and I considered I received good value for my money.

My girlfriend and I were going to go shopping while our husbands went fishing.... but the battery in the car key FOB slowly died. The manager had a new battery installed and then he tested that the key FOB worked. Great service, very much appreciated.

Very friendly at front desk. Didn't see any room safe. Didn't like the pillows. Air conditioner may have had a limiter on it. Didn't get really cold but wasn't loud. Not right in town but not far away. Good food in the restaurant, much better than expected.

Port Alberni is not a place where most people stop for a night - if going to Tofino or Ucluelet we always drive through. This time we we were lured to stay because of the chance to have dinner at Little Bavaria - well worth the stop. The Barclay was a pleasant surprise - clean comfortable room, good bed, nice facilities and great staff. Only criticism was the quality of the pillows and plastic cups and glasses in room which is apparently a franchise requirement and not the choice of the operator. If you want a glass, just ask at the pub and they will kindly give you one or two. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family if looking for good accommodation - good value for money.

I was extremely tired after a long day (12 hrs to be exact) and my room was very comfortable and appealing. The bed was FABULOUS and I had a wonderful sleep. Clean and the staff were friendly and very helpful.

Very good hotel , clean , good price , helpful staff , a plus $10.00 gets you to any point in town :) . Was nice we could go have a drink and not worry about driving back to hotel. Try the local Legion great fun

Good clean accommodation in Port Alberni. Comfortable king bed, nice outdoor heated pool plus sauna and hot tub with exercise room. If you have neck issues (we do) bring your own pillows unless you can tolerate foam chips, and if you want a real glass just ask at the lounge and they will give you what you need. Would recommend this hotel if you want to break up the drive to Tofino.

We believe it's better than other Best Western's that we have stayed at. They didn't have a Continental Breakfast but they did give their guests 20% off breakfast at the Stamps Café plus offered free toiletries should they be needed. (toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, deodorant, sanitary napkin, etc.

Very nice clean spacious room, everything worked, good supply of bathroom amenities, quiet. Very nice table for doing work as well as light meals. When I'm in Port Alberni will definitely return to the Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel.

Great hotel. Great food. Wonderful place to stay. Go Tour de Rock bikers. Wonderful area for boutique shopping. Mountains can be seen from front of hotel and back. Swimming pool was excellent and so was hot tub.

The receptionist Joanne encouraged me to use the hot tub even though I arrived when it was due to close. I appreciated the flexibility. The room and amenities were excellent (coffee, fridge, TV channel selection, quiet).

Always good service at the Barclay Hotel. Glad to return anytime. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. All aspects of this hotel is very good and comes highly recommended. Will be my personal choice over any other hotel in Port Alberni.

Second time staying here. Both stays were two days and it's a clean, quiet nice place to stay. Would stay again! Friendly staff. Nice to have a mini fridge option. Nice distance from Tofino if you can't stay there.

Rooms were excellent, service awesome (especially in the bar), and surrounding area very clean and accessible. For over 30 motorcycles and over 35 people registration was quick and simple and they accommodated our motorcycles in case of rain (put us under the overhead cover.

I love staying here.The kids enjoy it as well! The staff are always amazing, the rooms are always clean. I've stayed several times, and will continue to return! Thank you Barclay for your hospitality. See you soon!

The hotel is so accommodating. The staff very friendly and very helpful. They couldnt do enough for us. Would highly reecommend staying here when you visit the Island. In a brilliant area for visiting

First night food was terrible. Calamari was the smallest size of calamari I have ever had anywhere. Several of us ordered Caesar salad with salmon. The salad had. Wen sitting in a pool of dressing and the lettuce was totally wilted. They charged us an extra 14 dollars for the dry piece of salmon on top of the 10 dollar drippy salad. The next night one couple waited an hour and five minutes for their dinner while all the other tables that came in 45 minutes after us were served. They gave them 20% of their meals. They should have been comped. The servers were overworked and at times a bit cranky - understandably. Definitely won't eat there again next year

We booked a night at the hotel with a Frances Barkley boat trip from Port Alberni to Bamfield,BC. The hotel staff were extremely helpful both prior to and during our stay; the package rate was very good. Had breakfast at the hotel which was ok....have had better food there on previous visits. However, 6 AM opening for breakfast most welcome as we had to be at the dock by 7:30AM. Would highly recommend this to others.

When we first checked in, the staff was presentable and assisted in all the things that we requested. we did however run in to a problem with another guest having a party on the same floor, but the management dealt with as soon as i reported it. ( I wouldn't say this is a party place ) koodos to the management! Over all experience was really good! Definitely one of my favorite hotels.

Didn't actually stay here because we didn't have a reservation and they only had a large suite available. We didn't need it and it was more than we were willing to spend for one night accommodation. The front desk clerk was extremely helpful in finding us a room at another place close by that was extremely clean and comfortable. We certainly appreciated the customer service and I'm sure we would have enjoyed our stay had they had a smaller room available.

I entered the hotel was on crutches and the staff was so accommodating, helped me get checked in the front desk agents were very helpful the staff took care of their customers someone got the elevator all wet I didn't want anyone too slip it was cleaned right away. There is restaurant with fabulous food and lounge, out door pool and there is business center for the guests. All around this place is absolutely great, I had unexpected injury on that Friday and stayed at hotel, so they treated us well Thank you

The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. We had a great breakfast before we started our day. The staff were very friendly and keep everything very clean. We would recommend this location to friends and family to stay.

Our room had 2 queen beds, fridge with no freezer section, hair dryer. It was nice enough & clean. There was a decent restaurant downstairs. There was no breakfast included, but you got a 20% discount at the restaurant. There was an outdoor pool, a spa, & a fitness center. Price with tax was $120 U.S.

we needed a location enroute to Ucluelet/Tofino and this was the ideal location. While the hotel is dated, it is clean, quiet and the best in town. We were greeted by 2 exceptional Front Desk staff, who were friendly efficient and helpful. they gave us town insight and restaurant suggestions (we chose not to eat at the hotel despite the discount) The room was spacious and very clean. Avoid opening your windows on the north side due to the air conditioner units noise. The price was high, but it was the high season, so I assume reasonable. This BW has no continental breakfast, and no lobby coffee. The extra charge on your bill will be the Destination Marketing Fee levied by the town .. an innovative way to pay for the tourism office!

Thanks for Maureen and Joannie for finding a pet-friendly room for us. The online check reservation didn't asked if we are bringing a pet or not but during our check-in they move people around to find a place for us. Wonderful people and nice place to stay

It's a good place to stay because your expectations always match with reality. Our room was clean, and we didn't have any issues during the stay. Front desk agents were helpful and confident at what they were doing. I called earlier and requested a room on the top floor with a mountain view. All my preferences were honored. I just want to mention that it was strange smell near the hotel as well as in Port Alberni downtown. I think it's kind of manuring. I suppose it's just city peculiarity. Also it was some noise from the hotel ac's. I solved this problem when I closed the window, so I couldn't hear the noise. The Fitness Centre which is located in the basement of the hotel is not very pleasant to work out in. There were no towels for the guest. Would suggest having handiwipes in a pull out container to help with wipe down of equipment after use.

Best Western Barckay Inn ,Port Alberni BC provides very good quality accommodations and service at a reasonable price. Staff are very attentive and provide a high level of service. The Sports bar serves very good food and beverages in a very pleasant environment..

Clean, quiet room with very comfortable bed. Staff were prompt and courteous. Grounds are very well kept. Very attractive property. Lots of parking and we were allowed to park our motorcycle under cover of the front entry. Definitely recommend and would stay again on next visit.

We found the hotel to provide very nice accommodation. Staff were friendly and efficient. Rooms were well appointed and very clean. In all a good visit but for the needs of my handicapped son who could not take a shower in this hotel.

Spacious rooms, great amenities and professional staff. Conveniently located in Port Alberni within driving distance of Tofino and Nanaimo. Check out Swale Rock for breakfast, Little Bavaria for dinner, Goats on the Roof Market and Sandcastle Bakery when traveling through the area.

Friendly staff, very clean room. We were only there one night and did not have the opportunity to visit the café, pub, pool, or fitness center. Better than other BW hotels we've stayed at. The price was very reasonable. Check out time is noon; that was an unexpected bonus!

We stay at the Barclay whenever we get to Port Alberni as we enjoy the rooms, food and service we receive. We really enjoy the breakfast menu and their service is awesome. We also like the ease of parking a van, vehicle and boat etc as they have a nice sized, easy to get into, parking lot.

We booked 2 rooms with the Lady Rose Package. We thoroughly enjoyed property staff, very tidy room (Thanks to great housekeeping) . Only mar was noisy neighbour 1130 pm which hotel sent someone up immediately to deal with party quieted within 5 minutes - inconsiderate guest not a fault of hotel. Would not hesitate to book again at this property. We thoroughly enjoyed package with Lady Rose boat trip to Bamfield. Beds and pillows very comfortable.

We stayed at this hotel in August. It's a nice hotel. Very clean. Good amenities. I used the gym, the swirl pool and the outdoor pool. The gym has a diversified range of machines to be used by guests. I did a different range of exercises. The swirl pool I used but without the swirls. I didn't know where to turn it on. The only downside to our staying was when we ordered dinner with our young children. When we were ordering our food the lady who was taking our order left in the middle of it to pick up some dishes from a table next to ours. We found that very rude and unprofessional. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and in Port Alberni.

Great place to stay, would definitely stay again. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, hotel is very update and modern, room was very clean. The value for this type of accommodation is excellent. Definitely would recommend this hotel.

We recently stayed at the BW Barclay in Port Alberni. The staff was very friendly, the room was clean, and mostly well appointed. They have a restaurant and bar on site, and the server we met was friendly and welcoming. It's the best place to stay; the hotel is walking distance to many restaurants if you elect not to eat there. Unlike many BW we have stayed at, breakfast was not included which is unfortunate. They do offer 20% reduction, but a free continental breakfast would be a great idea.

Clean, spacious easy in and out of parking lot. Easy to find Hotel. Quiet. We had the 2 Queen suite with 2 TV's which help when you want to watch different shows for the evening. Every employee we interacted with was polite and seemed happy to be on the job. The waitress in the cafe for breakfast helped us start our day out with a smile. The breakfast was very fast and the menu quite extensive. The pictures in the cafe are from original photographers in the area and are done very well. It allows you to see some places you may want to visit in the area.

We decided to stay here as we'd previously stayed for two nights a couple of years ago on our way to Tofino and we were really impressed with the friendly staff and efficient service. We weren't disappointed as the service was still top notch. Everyone we met was very friendly and attentive and when we checked out the lady who processed our bill offered us some really good advice on places to visit on our way back to Nanaimo. We met the manager in the elevator when we were heading down to check out and he was very chatty and keen to know how we'd found our stay. He was around in the office whilst we were checking out and got involved in the conversation about places we should visit. I remembered the manager from our last visit as he'd rushed out to the car park when we were departing to make sure our two young daughters' each had one of the lovely complimentary killer whale bath toys (which we still have at home as a reminder of our trip). I thought this was super service, really memorable, and one of the reasons why I didn't hesitate to rebook this hotel again. I also loved the unique and very regional complimentary gift and so did our daughters who remembered the hotel as soon as we arrived! Sadly there were no killer whales this time but the girls were each given a high quality local pin badge which was a nice touch. Our room was spotlessly clean and modern, with everything you could need and we all slept well as the beds were really comfy. We will definitely stay here again when we visit in 2018 or 2019. Thanks for making us so welcome on both of our trips!

From check-in to check-out, staff was very pleasant and helpful. Breakfasts were good, but same selection as many others. in-house food service was well flavoured and good portions, so worth the price.

This Best Western was very helpful with our motorcycles, and with all of our luggage. Great Hotel, we will be back for sure. Helped our friends with a bad door lock. And very extremely polite at the front desk. The Night Manager was very helpful. Nice place for sure.

Our family stayed here for a night on the way back from a long day at Long beach/Tofino. We had chosen a 1 bedroom suite as we had 5 in our party. The rooms were very spacious and tastefully decorated. Outdoor pool felt amazing, although getting to it was a bit of a maze but we did find it. Fitness room, sauna and hot tub are all added bonuses after a long day of travelling/beachcombing. The hotel is centrally located but not directly on the main highway, just a very short drive of which made for a nice peaceful sleep. The matresses were soo comfortable, best I have slept on in a very long time. Check in staff were friendly and efficient. The bar was a nice break for an hour to unwind and restaurant food was very tasty . All in all, this was a great decision to stay the night here as everything about the hotel we enjoyed and also explored Port Alberni as well, a very cute quaint town. Highly recommend the property,

We stayed here on the way to the coast. It is located near everything in Port Alberni. The staff was very friendly and helped us with suggestions about local sites. The breakfast area was very nice with friendly service.

Very pleasant staff upon arrival, rooms were clean, discount on breakfast, outdoor pool, gym, hot tub. Only issue was that to get from the pool you had to climb stairs to the second floor, come down the elevator into the basement and access the hot tub, poor planning

We planned a short excursion to Ucluelet and Tofino from Vancover but found that there were no hotel options in either town that were in our price range combined with the quality we wanted. Port Alberni gave us a location that was drivable to Tofino and Ucluelet and this hotel gave us a nice place to sleep at a price we liked.

We were taking the Frances Barkley day trip out to the Broken Islands from Port Alberni and wanted a reliable comfortable place to stay. The Best Western Plus Barclay was perfect. We knew our room would be comfortable, with reliable wifi, and good amenities. It was well located too. The best part was that 4 days after we left the hotel we realized we had left a raincoat somewhere and thought it might be at the BW. We called,housekeeping found the raincoat and sent it to us!!!

The rooms are comfortable and the amenities are nice as they are in the majority of Best Westerns, although one wished for a bottle of water in the fridge without having to run down a vending machine in the heat. There is about everything a guest could want right on the premises. They serve an outstanding breakfast. All staff with whom we dealt were pleasant and efficient. They also have a package store and a nice bar.

If you are headed to the coast ...why not stay in Port Alberni? That is what we did to avoid the exorbitant prices in Tofino and Uclulet ... The BW hotel is a great value alternative in this lovely small town.

We were just 4 of about 200 women. The front didn't get overwhelmed and the entire weekend was well organized. There was a bit of confusion over the breakfast bill the last say after everyone else had left but in general the service was great, we got the adjoining rooms requested which doesn't usually happen at these events. When we left we all thought we should come back to see more of the town and would certainly stay at the Barkley.

Everything you would need in a hotel. Excellent staff, clean rooms. Restaurant, bar & grill, beer and wine store. I stay here every year and look forward to each trip to this nice town. This time I brought my son along. He had a great time in the pool. Took us 15 mins to get to Cathedral Grove and hike around. Turned my business trip into a mini vacation.

Hotel is well presented, rooms are a little small but ample, restaurant was fine, good selection, lots of parking internet speed was fine and consistent. The staff in the main we friendly and helpful, overall a good experience.

We stayed two nights. The room was clean and liked the express check out. The first night was very noisy and the room was small for 4 people. No complimentary breakfast, but did receive 20% off of breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

Good hotel ... staff is excellent but the lounge / restaurant is almost always understaffed and therefor slow... The air-conditioners have trouble keeping the room cool on warm nights.. I think they are programmed that way.. Could use some new bed linen.. In my last stay they were warn thin..

Customer service is horrible and they can't take reservations properly. They have no idea what customer service is about. Made numerous errors when I booked my stay, I made changes to my reservation and they never went through and then booked me for another stay for 2018.

This is an excellent hotel well-located for visits to the East and West coasts of the island, for a great day out on the MV Frances Barklay to Bamfierld etc and for the attractive town of Port Alberni itself.

Very friendly service in all areas - it was clear that all of the staff like their jobs. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. Great prices on the menus and the food was good with good portions. Loved the pool area and that you could also eat in designated outdoor spots. We were a group of 13 and everybody enjoyed their stay.

A very nice hotel - seemed relatively new. Quite well appointed with several eating options right in the hotel itself. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. I was only there overnight, but I had a great sleep. Will stay there everytime I pass through for business

Very clean, comfortable rooms. Only complaint I had is that I sleep on my side and the mattresses were too hard, resulting in my having a sore shoulder when I checked out. Nice fitness room and hot tub. Breakfast was serves hot and by very friendly staff. I'd reccomend

The room was very comfortable and impeccably clean. I liked the little coffee maker in particular. It was great that the hotel was dog friendly, too. All the staff we interacted with were super friendly. I would definitely stay there again.

We arrived about an hour before check-in time and our room was all ready for us. It was a nice room, very clean and quiet. We couldn't get the TV working so I phoned to the desk and within 5 minutes, someone was there to get it going for us. (Someone had been watching a DVD and hadn't changed it back to the original setting.) The beds were very comfortable. The only thing we forgot to pack was our bathing suits. The pool was beautiful and clean and very refreshing (put our feet in). The hotel was excellent for the conclave held on the Saturday and the food was very good. We would definitely stay there again.

A good option if you want to be close to visiting Cathedral Grove. With limited options in the area this was low cost & our room was quiet & clean. The staff were very friendly & welcoming. For families traveling with young children - we weren't able to get a cot. Only 3 stars as I wouldn't say this is 'very good' but probably the go to option if you're ever in Port Alberni

staff super helpful, room clean, food excellent close to amenities, but also not too far to drive to different areas of shopping and sightseeing. the area is abundant with natural forest and ocean access. went on the steam train to McLean Mill, was a wonderful experience, again the staff was super. The trip was so worthwhile. I would recommend it to anyone.

We had a suite while attending a conclave- 2- Q beds very comfortable- didn't have to use sofa bed. Fridge was turned off so took awile to get it up to temp. for our appies and booze but not too bad since there was a lot of ice in the maker although only one was on the 5th floor. Should get the other one replaced. Dinner in retaurant was excellant. Maids were very friendly and helpfull when the hotel did not honour our late check out time of 1pm we were given and locked us out of room early. Mill tour train was very late returning due to being first day and they had the smaller engine running and the rtracks wer coated with wet grass.

The best way to describe this hotel is high quality average. There are no outstanding features but everything is of a high standard. The parking lot is large with easy access from the street. The building has a lot of trees around it so it seems more rural than it is. Coming into the building the lobby is tastefully decorated. The front desk staff very courteous and knowledgeable about the local area. We ate at their restaurant. The menu had a good selection and the meals quality was very high. The hallways and room were very clean and laid out nicely. All the staff displayed a very friendly professionalism. The recreation area has a sauna, hot tub and exercise room. This area is in very good repair and very clean. The hot tub is a miniature pool. It is deeper and larger than most. Fantastic for getting rid of travel aches. In summary a great place to stay with no nasty surprises

Great located property with lots of parking and easy access. Hotel is clean and has alot to offer with sports bar, restaurant,and liquor store. This was our first time at the hotel and were pleasantly pleased. Its an older hotel and could use some upgrades in the hot tub area and some of the rooms but otherwise very clean. Avoid the wings in the sports bar. Too much breading! Great location to all amenities of Port!

Good location in town and also on the way to Ucluelet and Tofion, professional services, clean rooms. A bit outdated inside but still working appropriately. Restaurant offers a goof choice of meals for reasonable price. Free parking available.

As I stated above, this hotel does everything right! I stay in many hotels, and this one gets it right: modern, spacious rooms; well laid out bathroom; good air conditioning; convenient services. Best of all, as always, the staff make the difference! Not only the front desk, but the maintenance staff were friendly, as well! Will certainly return.

The BWP Barclay Hotel is a clean, comfortable and well-represented hotel, and their artwork on and in the building is wonderful. Don't forget to view the beautiful 'Walt Collins' mural in the front lobby. Many features of our King Suite included a good pillow selection, a 5-star comfort mattress, the mini fridge, coffee maker, E-Bath supplies, and a flat screen TV with the 'clean bag' remote. The bath was a sufficient size and our view from the top floor was probably as good as it gets in Port Alberni. The HVAC (air conditioning) was hit and miss in that it would either run the fan or cool the room, where I prefer the white-noise of a continuous fan that kicks a/c in when required. The outdoor pool was too cool for our liking but we did enjoy the indoor hot tub, although they are missing towels in the room. We did find a towel-stand in a separate exercise room but they were small towels more suited to workouts. Another miss was our terrible 9:30pm reception at their restaurant 'Pastimes' when we arrived for a late-night drink and snack, but we just left and went downtown instead. It's a great hotel worthy of 4 stars and we'd stay here again. Safe travel, Paul

In town for a Memotial service and didn't spend too much time at hot the In town for a Memorial Service so didn't spend too much time at hotel but rather with friends. I didn't experience any negative encounters and would recommend hotel to friends who may have occasion to visit Port Alberni. Close enough to to Sproat Lake which is always a treat to visit. Food was good and staff was friendly and professional... thank you for a nice experience!

OK hotel for Port Alberni - not many choices anyway. Under the BW standards from what I have seen in the past. Old and musty decor. Noise from other rooms travel a lot. Card readers very touchy, was stuck outside the room several times fiddling with it - and even the manager could not demonstrate how to make it work consistently. On the good side: clean, friendly and helpful staff.

We had a comfortable King size bed, the room was clean & spacious. It had a microwave, fridge, WiFi, coffee maker, hair dryer, ironing board & iron, good quality soap, bathroom is clean. The heater was excellent and not noisy which worked properly to the temperature required. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was fine but the cube type hash brown were overdone but otherwise it was a good breakfast. We should have advised the waitress. I would suggest that the hash brown be either shredded or smaller cube type hash. We had people to visit and this location served us well.

The rooms are very clean and well furnished, beds are comfy with good linen and pillows. Bathroom well stocked with towels and soaps. Had a bit of an issue upon check in though that has caused me some concern. I reserved our rooms through the Airmiles program and upon arrival I provided the confirmation listing for the front desk clerk. She did not look at it and went ahead and did our room charges as if we were just new. They had the rooms assigned - but not as requested. We were not on the same floor, let alone next to each other. In addition, she charged my credit card for the rooms and I had to remind her that they were already paid for! Now there are concerns that the charge is on my card and I will have to look. The continental breakfast one is used to at Best Westerns is not offered here, but you do receive a 20% discount. Our breakfast order was completely wrong and had to be sent back. Mind you the food itself was good, just the order taking. In her defense, the young woman did say she was training, but she should have been able to remember 2 short orders. Overall, I would stay here again and I would recommend it. Just be certain to not assume the staff are reading anything you give them. Oh yes, there is one other thing. There was a card hanging in the bathroom allowing me to request the type of room cleaning service I wanted - full service, just towels or nothing at all. I appreciate this as I had my computer out with work in progress and did not have to put everything away when I requested No Service. This is a good idea in my view.

My husband and I stayed here for a week. The staff was excellent, the room was nice and clean, but I could not sleep on the beds. The manager was very accomadating and set us up in another room, but it was the same problem big dips in the mattress. My back and hips were killing me. There was just no support.i stayed at a best western in Alberta and the beds were very comfortable. Other then the crappy sleep I got. It was pleasurable

Good hotel centrally located. Had to ask for more coffee in the restaurant, but the room was good, the bed Ok, the window could open (a real plus) and the shampoo and soap good. I appreciated the good WIFI.

Stayed two days at the beginning of the week and 2 at the end. Rooms were lovely especially the king room. There is a dining room downstairs and the food is really good. also used the spa and it was great too. all in all the experience was great

I stayed at the hotel with our Midget Hockey team. The hotel was very accommodating, rooms clean, staff friendly, location just two minutes from the rink, good beer and wine store, value was good so no complaints. I would stay again with the team. However I do have one complaint and that's the food. I recommend eating else where. I tried to be open minded and I did not complain but the dinners were terrible, lunch not so bad and pub snacks acceptable. Dinner terrible. I hope the hotel reads this, really an easy fix. My advice stick to Burgers and chicken wings. I ate at the hotel lunch, dinner and snacks. I survived. Again the hotel is great, stay here eat else where.

Have stayed here now 3 times over the years and it is by far the best place to stay in Port Alberni. Very central to everything including the ice arena. We took advantage of the 20% off breakfast coupon given to us at check in. The food and service were excellent. Wouldn't stray anywhere else

Had a lovely stay in this hotel. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. It is in a lovely area for walking. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It has a restaurant with adequate food and friendly service.

Decent hotel, has cold beer and wine attached. Sports bar had excellent food and service. Walls are thin and when drunk fools come back at 4am, it's easy to be woken up. Room itself is nicely appointed but the hotel itself is starting to look a bit dated

Stayed here for the second time on our way to Tofino. Felt welcome the moment we arrived. We had a pet friendly room and it was immaculate. This is a very clean hotel. Food was great in the restaurant. Small glitch with tv and the manager was there in less than 5 minutes to fix it. Entire staff was friendly and helpful. It was a cosy, comfortable stay after a long day. Bed was super comfortable and bathroom was spotless. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

It's a bit loud. Room was clean, staff was very pleasant. Bathroom was decent. Overall pretty good nothing to complain about. We basically just slept and moved on. We didn't use the pool or restaurant. Lots of parking.

We have stayed in many hotels over the years and this was by far one of the best. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were immaculate everyday. The registration desk was more than accommadating. We will definitly stay there when we return to Port Alberni, BC.

Best hotel in Port Alberni, it is central, making it easy for walking, restaurants, stop off point, and travel point. Hospital visits would be one of the few things far away. Rooms, service and all other parts of the hotel are definitely Best Western. So can't go wrong. Only short coming is no breakfast with room, you need to either book that rate, or use the on-site restaurant. Which isn't bad, but still not the normal you expect from this chain.

We had expected this hotel in Port Alberni to be merely okay, but found it to be clean, comfortable, well-equipped and well-staffed. The reception staff were professional and politely friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable. The restaurant was cheerful and clean. We would definitely recommend it whenever possible.

We decided to stay the night at the last minute after a long day of travelling. We've stayed here before so we had no worries about staying again. We check into our room which was very musty smelling. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable, and I ordered breakfast in the morning and it was AWFUL!!! The bacon was so over cooked or "nuked" that it literally fell apart when I picked it up. (Did not eat it)the hashbrowns were not fully cooked (did not eat them) so I basically had toast for $13. Big disappoint because the restaurant used to be very good. The wifi was absolutely horrible as well, I just gave up and stopped trying to surf on My iPad. It was THAT BAD. Was very disappointed in the entire stay, nothing nice to report at all

Nice large, clean, accessible, comfortable room; dog friendly too with waterfront walking area across the parking lot!. Stayed two nights here as base camp for day trip to Pacific Rim NP. Given the chance, would return to this property (even with the gazillion traffic signal aggravations on Hwy 1. north of Victoria)

I highly recommend this hotel for several reasons.This Best Western Hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Port Alberni. The hotel itself is clean and modern, rooms are spotless, the breakfast area is large and airy and there are numerous breakfast choices. The staff at reception were very friendly and extremely accommodating. We had chosen the room package that included a trip on the Frances Barkley but unfortunately, there had been an error in sailing dates. The manager very quickly sorted things out and without hesitation,compensated us for the error. You don't often get that kind of service! (Note that there are both indoor and outdoor pools.)

Great location, free parking plus the bonus of an LCBO store on site. Comfortable queen size bed plus sofa in our large room and two doubles for our travel companions ensured a good night's sleep for all before our early morning breakfast (huge and delicious) preceding our day trip on the Frances Berkley down the inlet to Bamfield. Staff pleasant and helpful from the minute we walked in the door to the minute we left after our short stay. Thank you.

I spent there just one night, the room was big enough and clean, the restaurant is small but you can enjoy a beer watching sports. The Wi-Fi was not son fast. It was a rainy and cold day so we could spent some time in the swimming pool.

We only stayed here one night. The room layout was great with a queen bed and a sitting area with a sofa. Since we were travelling with anther couple, the sofa was great to visit. The breakfast in the dining room was tasty.

It was a pleasure right from walking in the door the desk staff were very friendly. Our room was as we requested. The recent renovations to the hotel are tastefully done. Comfortable beds great wifi though out the hotel made our stay.

Quite impressed with this lovely small town hotel. Modern & well kept, with great WiFi, heat controls and bathroom. The cafe for breakfast is fine, but the bar could use some improvements. Close to some very nice restaurants. Will definitely be back.

Honestly I wasn't expecting much when booking a hotel in Port Alberni. Limited choices and hundreds of families booking in for a hockey tournament. Can you say...COMPLETELY surprized!? Barclay Best Western - very nicely renovated exterior, well-stocked and reasonable priced liquor store conveniently attached. Interior very well appointed with a business centre, free wireless and clearly a quality renovation. Rooms were very well appointed, fridge, in room climate controls, 32" LG TV and extensive cable selections. Comfortable beds and nice sheets. Marble topped bathroom counters, modern cabinetry and AWESOME water pressure in the shower! Now...for the "less-good" part... Checking in - one fantastic, upbeat, helpful, informative woman on the left - dower, cryptic, less helpful GM on the right. Yup...got the GM, Why did I feel like I was doing him a favour handing over my credit card? Totally the tale of two experiences - all of three feel apart behind the same counter. Wished I waited...and gone left. FIASCO - Sunday morning breakfast! Thanksgiving weekend...at least three hockey teams (and rumour has it a wedding party) booked for between two and three nights. Would you not look at your room load and staff your restaurant accordingly??? Seriously - there was one server and an expediter when we arrived. Clearly the department head didn't anticipate having a full restaurant for breakfast. Was 15 minutes before we got coffee at our table...15 more for flatware. I physically had to go get the server to have her take our kids orders. In total it was 50 minutes before food arrived - can you imagine how frustrating it was to see your child and a dozen friends (having all just played a hockey game) sit waiting for food for nearly any hour? In our case - we were the first to order - and the last to receive our meal. 15 minutes AFTER the last order came out. I very much appreciated the significant efforts of the office manager who came to the rescue of the two servers (yes another one gratefully leapt into the fray) made in pouring volumes of coffee, getting water and even taking orders. Yes, she was incredibly apologetic and our breakfast was comped (YES - I tipped 20% on what we ordered) - however it was simply not enough. That breakfast coloured the experience of 40+ future hotel-staying patrons in in such a negative way - all for a lack of a third server and some planning on management's part. Not fair to the servers, not fair to the expediter, not fair to the kitchen crew - and certainly not fair to hotel guests. Would I stay there again? Probably - my qualifications to saying "Yes" would be that the GM stay "behind the scenes" and leave customer service to his front desk staff...and either making a reservation at Stamps well in advance or eating elsewhere.

The rooms seem to be recently updated. Ours had a comfortable King Size bed with nice white linens. Very clean. The bathroom was a bit small, with just enough room to move around. Overall we were very pleased with the room. The restaurant staff were not as friendly as the hotel staff, and service was painfully slow. We waited quite a long time for breakfast even though there were very few other guests at the time. There were no offers of more coffee and we had to ask for jam for the toast. The breakfast potatoes were cubes that seemed to be deep fried, not the nice shredded kind. The English Muffins in my Eggs Benedict had a crust so hard on the bottom, they were impossible to cut, almost as though they had been sitting on a warmer too long.

From the time of arrival until departure the service was excellent! The ladies at reception were extremely helpful! The hotel was exceptionally clean and that is very important to us!! The food at the restaurant was good! When I complained about our food being cool, it was looked after immediately!! No point in wasting your time trying to find another restaurant as the restaurant with the hotel was very good!!

Hotel staff are amazing. Hotel is clean and well taken care of. Unfortunately the restaurant is a disaster. Had pancakes and asked if the fruit, strawberries were fresh. Waitress assured me they are, we they were not. Mushy, disgusting strawberries. Is it that hard to cut up fresh fruit? Anyways, when I brought that up to the waitress she was still adamant they are fresh strawberries which begs me to question if she actually knows what fresh strawberries look like. Either that or she doesn't care about her customers. My advice, go out and eat somewhere else.

My wife and I stayed one night at the Barclay and would highly recommend this hotel. The staff at the desk were very pleasant and efficient. The room was clean, quiet and very nicely laid out with a comfortable bed. We would definitely book this hotel again when staying in Pt. Alberni.

Port Alberni is a medium-sized town on Vancouver Island, smaller than either Nanaimo or Victoria, but conveniently located for touring the whole island. The BW Barclay Hotel offers wonderful service, comfortable and well-appointed rooms, enthusiastic and helpful staff, good parking, a great restaurant for breakfast to get the day started, and a fine lounge to wrap the day up in. There is a pool and fitness room, and great service in all respects.

Once again enjoyed our stay here, front desk staff helpful and courteous. Room was well appointed with all the amenities needed. Good linens and very comfortable beds. A nice stopover on our way out to the West Coast and Long Beach.

The staff throughout the property are very friendly. Has all you need in one convenient location. Besides the usual amenities of a Best Western Plus there is a restaurant, bar and liqour store. Found it to be a great central location for where I needed to go. Will definitely stay here again on any other business trips and hope to bring my family for a leisure trip one day.

The hotel was in excellent shape and kept very clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to help us and did so cheerfully. We can highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in Port Alberni.

Checked in without reservations on a rainy evening, although quite busy at the check-in the staff was very helpful and all went seamlessly . Got a nice top floor suite , away from the busier rooms as there was a 'fundraiser/convention' going on at the time. Very nice, clean rooms, well appointed and good value. Conveniently located, would recommend!!

We found this hotel to be quite nice to stay at. The staff is very friendly and helpful, both at the registration desk and the restaurant and Sports Bar. Food is quite good, they even offer a service to order a lunch the night before, you just pick up early in the morning and head out to the golf course! Very clean rooms and comfortable beds. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

The hotel is a bit dated on the outside looks like a 70's design; however the entrance lobby is very large and in a 70's colours of dark wood and yellow creams. Everywhere very clean on the ground floor areas. Great check in and door keys that actually work. Just a hint of cleaner odour in the air and that sure beats dust and mold . Rooms were fresh new bathroom fixtures and finishes which was very nice. The hvac all worked very well and seemed new as well. Could not ask for more for the room or friendly service. Now the dining room was the low point. Very tired decor, the food well they tried so hard and yet was tough salad made up hours earlier I expect, and the meat and so on really dry. I need several cups of coffee to get what I could eaten and finally gave up. Maybe that is why there were very few people eating in the very large restaurant. However I stayed to be close to work and needed a good place to rest and got it. Great place in Port for sure.

A very nice location that is central to everything we needed. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful.The room was clean, tidy and comfortable. Lots of amenities to use, pool, sauna and hot tub. Would return to this location next visit.

The absolute WORST customer service! I had stayed there with my son's lacrosse tournament in May, and had a great experience. Called just now to book a room for my son and I for a hockey tournament, and was told that my son isn't allowed to stay there because he plays hockey! Needless to say I will never stay at this hotel ever again nor will I ever tell anyone to stay at this hotel again!!! Discriminating against a family because their son plays hockey is absolutely ridiculous, just because there happens to be a tournament in town.

Registration and other staff members were friendly and effective. Room are comfortable and clean. Registration staff made checking in and out easy. Was acknowledged by my last name on my second stay. Excellent value

Our family of 5 stayed here for one night and we all loved it. Charming hotel with great location, very clean and extremely friendly staff. We loved the décor and atmosphere of that place. It offers outdoor pool which was closed due to the rain, indoor Jacuzzi and sauna. What a lovely place!

The entire staff work to make stay great. Room was very clean with a great bed and pillows!!! Room was extremely quiet with next to no noise.They have a great pub and restaurant on site. I highly recommend a stay here if coming to Port Alberni.

the Barclay Hotel is a great hotel.....warm friendly welcome, lovely clean room, great bed...the restaurant breakfast was perfect.....met the owner in the elevator and he asked how things were going....yah......plenty of parking, a full service hotel...

Hotel is very good in all aspects, what you would expect from Best Western. Facilities are very good, location is quiet, some road noise but minimal. Note, breakfast not included in rate here but you do get a 20% off voucher to use. Breakfast menu very good, look for the special. Location is excellent for a base to travel in Vancouver. Island. Whilst here be sure to visit Victoria Quay, it is just a 10 minute walk from Hotel, directions from Hotel. We managed to see a black bear and bird life, we were there at high tide, suggest low tide would be even better.

Port Alberni best western is a very nice place to stay. We had a great visit, it is a great hotel, freindly staff and comfortable beds. The food in the restaurant was great. They take pets too. The Salmon Derby was on and the town was jumping.

This hotel is located near the waterfront and is comfortable. The staff is very helpful. Unfortunately the ventilation system is poor. The windows do open, so much of the time this is not an issue. We did not use the restaurant or bar, but both look inviting. I would use this hotel again.

Newly updated and very clean. Restaurant food was good with great service. Place is easy to find and close to all interests and shopping. Did not use the pub but it was "the place to go" for a drink according to family.

We only stayed for one night and arrived late but got a nice big room. Everything was fine nothing to complain about. Had a late dinner in the pub / sports bar at the hotel. Food was ok but a bit ordinary but it was a sports bar so I didn't expect much better than this ??

Stayed one night at the hotel. Located close to the canal it's a little far away from the city. Spacious room with refrigerator coffee maker and the usual stuff. Noticed that modern era is in the room - there is an USB outlet in the bedside lamp to charge your phone - cool! Comfy beds for a good nights sleep. Room was clean and tidy.

We stayed at the Barclay because we wanted to see Tofino, but didn't fancy the 300k round trip by road with limited passing opportunities. So we took the boat instead. It's a very comfortable Best Western. I can't point to anything to particularly compliment them about, but equally everything seemed to be as it should be.

This was a decent stay while doing some fishing in the canal. Good staff but for one sour apple in the group when checking in, didn't know why as those of us waiting to check in were not making any fuss. (Canadians are very polite) Also had a problem with the key entry system but that was fixed by John (good job) after 5 trips to the desk for "new keys". Room was good, clean, spacious. Noisy heater/ac. Walls are thin so a noisy neighbor would definitely be an issue. Was unable to try the restaurant as it didn't open before I would leave in the a.m. Refrigerator (small danby) was noisy, warm and could not be adjusted for temperature. This place has a confusing fire escape system - i like to take the stairs but you can't do it here. Also, it is a maze getting to the pool - never made it.

We stayed overnight and wouldn't hesitate to book again when we're in Port Alberni. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable--as they have been at all Best Western hotels we've stayed at. Breakfast at the Stamp Cafe was hearty and reasonably priced. All staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed one night here on our way from Tofino to Nanaimo and ferry to Vancouver, in August 2016. Room was clean and spacious for us, hotel staff at front desk were very nice and helpful, restaurant on the main floor was very nice for both dinner and breakfast the next day, Both dinner and breakfast portions were huge! More like USA portions. We could not finish all that food. There was also a bar next to the restaurant, which is convenient if you are staying there and want to have a few drinks in the evening.

Stayed her twice in the past few months in a King room which was a good size with a mini fridge, microwave and super comfortable bed. Both rooms I stayed in were very clean, quiet and air con worked great. Enjoyed the outdoor pool for refreshing swims on hot days. There is a restaurant and small pub in the hotel and a liquor store attached. Ordered room service a couple times from the hotel restaurant... food was okay, nothing special. Missed the free hot/cold breakfasts that all other Best Western+'s I've stayed at offered. They do offer 20% off breakfast only in the hotel restaurant for guests but... it's not the same. Overall, a very nice hotel with friendly, professional staff and nice decor. I think the decent sized outdoor pool is a real bonus... especially in the Alberni Valley where it gets super hot in summer. I would stay here again and definitely recommend to others. Note: both times I stayed here this summer (July & August) the hotel was full/no vacancy. So good idea to make a reservation... especially in the summer months.

A very clean and tidy hotel, small liquor store attached, very helpful bar lady Kam in the sports bar where the food was reasonably priced and plentiful with lots of Televisions covering just about every sport one could imagine. The bed rooms are very clean and functional, very comfortable mattress, our only negative would be one can clearly hear other guests doors and plumbing.The Staff at reception were very pleasant and overall a good stop over.

We stayed one night on our week trip on the Island. A great hotel that was both clean and modern. Small liquor store attached. Staff at check in were great. The place was full the night we rolled in so most definitely would recommend a reservation.

We spent one night at this BW hotel on our way from Tofino to Nanaimo. Overall we had a great experience, the rooms were big, clean, and comfortable (each of our rooms had 2 queen beds plus a sofa bed), and the staff were very professional and friendly, and helped us with all our requests.

Nice hotel, we stayed here for 2 nights. Very friendly staff and decent rooms. Restaurant downstairs was nice too. Hotel had a good size pool, only negative the sauna was not working and the pull out couch was not very comfortable all that aside, Would stay here again.

We were thrilled with the service and cleanliness of this hotel. We were unable to stay in Tofino, and chose Port Alberni-Best Western. Very good choice..great meals and employees were very helpful-information about the area, Tofino, things to do and places to eat. Delightful

our room was very clean, the pool is beautiful, the restaurant was just average and a bit overpriced, the service was average as well. The pool is a great addition and the gym facilities are nice. Location is okay.

We stay at the Barclay several times a year as we frequent Sproat Lake in the summer and have business in Tofino. We sometimes plan our stays on short notice and, on all but one occasion over the last few years, they have been able to accommodate us. Every aspect of our stay, from check-in to check-out is a pleasure and the rooms are clean, VERY comfortable and exactly what we need.

We stayed 2 nights at the top end of the Temporary Street Drag Race track and it was AWESOME ... Great view of the action for "Thunder in the Valley" Great Beds , Clean Rooms ... No Breakfast ( 20% off in the Restaurant )

Arguably the best hotel in Port Alberni. Great for a few days stay. Modern amenities, super pleasant staff, and super comfortable beds. Nice restaurant with great breakfast. Didn't use the pool so can't comment on that. Highly recommend staying here

This hotel is exactly what you would expect of a Best Western. The bed was very comfortable and I slept great both nights. Great to have Seattle's Best coffee but bring some creamer or milk as only Coffee Mate is provided. Glad I brought my own pillow as these ones are a bit lumpy, but the sheets are very good. Front desk staff were good but the restaurant staff were not great. Left me standing at the front desk for over 5 minutes even though three staff saw me standing there and then went into the back to chat and put dishes away. I left to go somewhere else.

Port Alberni is not a place you should see, but if tofino is fully booked its a good place to start. This best Western is very nice, clean, good rooms, friendly staff, parking place with more then enough space. Wifi could and should be better. The inpanded restaurant is great, a plus!

Clean, relatively quiet (could hear showers running, etc. in other rooms), and they seemed to have lots of little extras to make sure the stay was comfortable. Seemed to be close to the center of town, loads of parking and staff were very friendly. Cost was rather high, but would consider staying there again.

The air conditioner in our unit did not work. Maintenance was sent up and said "I cannot do anything I am just the janitor". I asked for a credit off of our bill due to a bad night's sleep. The manager who didn't even bother coming to see me offered me $25 - very disappointing experience given that everything else about the hotel was fine. Thankfully I won't have to sleep there again; hopefully, you can avoid the same experience.

Every member of the staff at the Barclay was amazing! We couldn't thank the office staff, the restaurant staff, and the cleaning staff enough. We've never been treated with such kindness and concern at any hotel in the past. My 91 year old dad and 86 year old mom were so well taken care of by everyone that I don't think they wanted to come home with us!! The hotel is also spotless and the food in the Stamps Cafe is delicious.

Best overall service I've experienced in a hotel. Everyone from front desk, to bar staff, restaurant staff, and housekeeper. Made us feel welcome in a genuine way, a friendly way, not just from some customer service training handbook. Rooms were immaculately clean, with solid ammenities. Food in bar and restaurants were good portions, hot, and delicious.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here the weekend of Canada day the hotel was beautiful even the room so were happy to have a good night sleep after a busy weekend. It wasn't until we went to bed that we had the hardest time sleeping because the mattress was so firm and hard that we couldn't get comfortable so got very little to no sleep that night plus had to drive back up island the next day. The next morning when we awake not only sore but with lack of sleep we noticed while searching the whole hotel room that there was no coffee filters or coffee for the morning after struggling to find a plug for the coffee pot it was a small but minor disappoint. I rated this hotel average as all the people in house keeping were friendly and nice just the bed was way to hard to sleep on.

Central to everywhere, lots of parking, quiet. There are lots of gentle hiking trails nearby and lots of hard climbing trails. We could see the water from 5th floor. The quay has a new aquarium with touch ponds that are filled with local ocean life, collected from the local waters, Definitely must see for $5.

We stayed at the BWP Barclay Hotel because it is well located and a well respected Hotel in Port Alberni. While filling in time prior to the wedding festivities we walked to the waterfront Quay Drive and admired the waterfront near the Canal Marina in the morning. It was a delightful stroll along the river and on the Quay, so close to the Hotel. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable.

The facility has lots of parking. The lobby & rooms all seem fresh and updated. Our room was very clean and came with a queen size bed, pullout couch, small fridge. It also had all the amenities in the bathroom including a hairdryer. The bed itself was on the hard side, so if that is a factor then longer stays would be wise to ask if any rooms had pillow tops. (Queen size, Non-Smoking room did not have pillow tops). There is a restaurant & sports bar which have the same menu. We opted for the sports bar and really there was pretty much every sport on all the tvs for every enthusiast. The food was better than most pub food and they did have a nightly drink & food special. We did not use the pool, but we did see others using it and it looks like a fine pool for summer as it is outside. I would stay at the hotel again, though I would ask if they had different mattress options in other rooms. which is the only reason I gave it a Very Good instead of Excellent.

We spent one night here in a large very comfortable room which was spotlessly clean. King size bed had very good quality linen and the room was attractively furnished. The bathroom is small but also spotlessly clean and equipped with everything required. The room had coffee maker, fridge and microwave. We had dinner and breakfast in the cafe, both meals were good with friendly service.

While I was here for work related activities, this location offered relative closeness to the Tofino and/or Ucluelet areas in the form of day trips. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable. Front staff are extremely helpful and competent. Rooms were decent size and well organized. The bar/restaurant offered decent food selections and reasonable prices. This hotel is close to most well-reviewed restaurants as well as both main piers in Port Alberni. Would definitely stay there again, if ever in Port Alberni.

We have stayed at this hotel 3 times and highly recommend it. Staff is very friendly. It is very clean and the rooms are decorated very nice. It was quiet and had a great nights sleep. It has a great breakfast and a nice bar/lounge area.

Your staff, both at the front desk and in the restaurant were pleasant to deal with, helpful with directions and always smiling. Great place to stay! Rooms were comfortable, the only thing I would have wanted that we didn't have , was a microwave. But that wouldn't stop us from staying there, or recommending it to others.

Stayed here on way to Tofino. Great value. Clean, quite and great value is what we look for and it's what we found. Staff was very friendly. There was a lot of people fishing in the area which added to the location. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Wish the weather was a bit warmer so we could have used the pool but enjoyed our stay and found the staff very accommodating and the room was quite even though we have the window open. Enjoyed the wedding banquet every thing was perfect there.

This was a good final stay on our way home from Bamfield fishing trip. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and have a fridge. Breakfast was very good with a 20% off coupon even better. I thought the price for a basic room was a little bit high for the area.

This hotel has been kept up nicely. The rooms are kept well with good furniture (including comfy bed and hide-a-bed) and bedding. The pool is outdoors and was clean and had lots of seating. The only downside was the old heating unit in the room. We turned it down as low as it would go (60 F) and it never really got cool. It kept turning on and off all night, but did not really cool the room (room 414). We still slept well, and the staff were very friendly. I'm sure if it had not been so hot at 33 C it would have been more comfortable.

Nice room, great linens on the beds. Has all amenities- lounge, restaurant, etc. Both meals we had were disappointing (breakfast, evening snack). Would not eat there again, but would stay. Easy to find, centrally located A bit pricey, but not too many other choices Noisey, but necessary, air conditioner in room.

I stay only stay at The BWB when I work in Port. It's close to all amenities, clean and well priced. I tend to eat out so I havent dined at the hotel restaurant much, but it seems fine. Oh and the cable(TV) package is good.

I stayed here for 4 nights a week for 8 weeks while on business. The staff is courteous, friendly and efficient. They will go out of their way to make sure you are happy. WiFi access is very important to me when on the road. When I had an issue with accessing WiFi in a different room, the owner, Peter, personally looked after me, made sure I kept the same room for my stay and personally ensured my WiFi was strong and uninterrupted! I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for service, dependability, cleanliness and quiet. Bravo Peter and your crew!

Visited for one night on the way to Tofino. The rooms are clean and well equipped. There is a nice sports bar, and a cafe. The pool is small, and the gym is old, but with an effort, you can do a nice workout. A big plus is the sauna and whirlpool... Very good experience indeed.

Resteraunt food was plentiful and more important excellent quality. the lounge inviting and with all the televisions us sports fans were satisfied. The quality of the rooms particularly the comfort of the bedding and pillows was amazing.

I was very impressed with the manager John Quackenbush. During our stay April 31 the hotel had a lot of young families for a soccer tournament. I was quite concerned that there possibly would be noise, I am undergoing chemo treatments and I had a daughter with a migraine and we needed our rest. John personally came and checked on our floor to make sure everything was quiet.when I checked out in the morning he also checked on me to make sure that everything was OK. Hotel was fabulous, clean, bed was super comfortable, staff was helpful and friendly, but John went above and beyond and I wanted to give him recognition for it.

Didn't get a chance to check the lounge but everyone else from front desk to restaurant to housekeeping staff were all smiles so can only guess they were as happy and super to deal with. Rooms were clean, beds very comfortable, they all seemed to deal with the 3 teams of lacrosse players very easily, two different age groups 8 & 9 year olds and 10 & 11 year olds and if course the parents and in many cases other siblings younger and older. Never a cross word, just light suggestions on how they should perhaps slightly change what they were doing, like no bare feet!!!

I received 2 acknowledgements of our booking and a thoughtful "welcome note" after we checked in (they may have been computer generated but still someone took the time). Very helpful checkin staff with excellent advice on where to eat in Port Alberni (our first visit). Beautifully clean property and a very welcome feel to the place

Beds are terrible. No coffee or tea available on check in. Signing for towels is old school. Miss Best Western free breakfast although you do get 20% off in the restaurant. People were friendly although front line staff were a little harried. Close to or in an industrial area.

The rooms were excellent. I have stayed here before and would return again. Amenities are all very close and the staff are great. Coffee pot did not work in my room and when I informed them about it they fixed or replaced it in under 20 minutes. In room fridge is always nice and the rooms are always quiet.

Great hotel and only 1 1/2 hr drive to Long Beach. The room was spotless and all hotel staff very friendly. we were on the 5th floor away from the elevators. it was very quiet. The quay downtown is beautiful and of course the 28 deg weather made it even better. Stamps Cafe great for breakfast and dinner. The pool wasn't open yet - too bad - I was counting on a dip and some sun afterwards. We will be back - this is the only place to stay in Port!

Traveled to Port Alberni on business and stayed at the Best Western for 1 evening. Location is great with lots of parking. My initial reservation was for a double bed room but when they saw I was alone they immediately offered a single which I appreciated. Facilities are fairly modern, shower was good, no street noise and heating and fridge we newer and very quiet. So very happy with the accommodations, parking and service, I will definitely stay here on my next trip.

I have stayed at this hotel quite a few times over the years, and I'm always impressed with the condition of the property and the service, considering they really don't have any 'similar' hotel competition, and they could let things slide. At least no larger full service hotels, although there are others with restaurants and such. Excellent service and considerate staff. All good!

Room was clean, staff friendly, the restaurant had good food and service. The lounge/bar had a good atmosphere and friendly staff. Overall my stay was great and I would stay here again. I would recommend this hotel.

Best Western Hotels are always quite good. This particular one is right at the top. Appearance, cleanliness and staff are all excellent. We would certainly recommend this hotel in every way. You can't go wrong.

I stayed at this hotel on the night of the 31 March 2016 and enjoyed a clean, quiet room. I returned on the 2 April 2016 and stay until the 5th of April 2016, for another 3 nights of comfort accommodations. The rooms were quiet and clean, the meals in the restaurant were very good, and the staff were most accommodating to fulfil my requests.

I have stayed at this hotel 4 times now. Every time has been very good. The restaurant and pub are both way above average for your average hotel The internet could use some work but it is usable. For Business of pleasure hard to beat this Best Western

Nice hotel, I had a pleasant stay, no issues at all...room was clean and comfy, good location not too noisy, close to downtown. Staff were pleasant, and I appreciated the discount on breakfast at the onsite restaurant.

We only stayed here one night whilst travelling and would highly recommend this to anyone. From the moment we walked in we were treated like old friends, the rooms were absolutely spotless and the views amazing. Good sized rooms and the beds were very comfortable. If I'm ever here again I'll definitely be staying here.

We spent two enjoyable days at this hotel. The facility is spotless, the staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms clean and comfortable. There is a restaurant on site with good food and reasonable prices. Room rates are excellent value for the dollar.

Well this is a nice clean hotel that is well located in port alberni. The restaurant was good, but not anything exceptional. Everything was good with the exception of the free wifi. It was so intermittent as to be nonexistent. Hot tub was nice, but for some crazy reason they don't keep towels down there. Not bad, but not great either.

My check-in was quick & easy as was my check-out. The room was very comfortable & I really liked having a couch and chair in a sitting area. The bed was very comfortable but I find that most hotel duvets are a bit too warm. I l slept with the window open so the freezing air kept me comfortable under the covers and the noise from the road was minimal. I didn't use any of the amenities. WIFI was quick to connect & strong.

I have stayed with this hotel a few times and always been happy with my stay. Great service .Very nice, clean and comfy rooms plus an excellent WIFI. Check out the bar.. good food and friendly staff. I definitely will be coming back!

The hotel offered great Service, They had nice and friendly stall and a clean comfy room! We would stay again for sure, next time travelling....and the breakfast special was to die for. So much food and excellent presentation.

Stayed one night. Hotel is clean; staff friendly & helpful. Nice that the manager sends out responses welcoming you when you book & also after the stay. Room was comfortable but we found the pillowcases (not the sheets) & the towels very rough. We had breakfast at their restaurant which you get a discount at. We would have liked that discount to be extended to all meals- not just breakfast. Service was excellent despite the server being by herself (it was not busy though in the restaurant). Food seemed just thrown on the plate so presentation could be improved but the taste was good. I was very disappointed to find after we had left to find a Destination marketing fee added to our bill without any comment to us or notification of it. This is the greatest ripoff in the tourism industry & there should be a law against hotels being allowed to put this fee on your bill. It is NOT a mandatory fee like the GST & hotel taxes are. It is voluntary. As such should someone want to give up money to an unknown organization for some unknown reason they are free to do it as long as they are asked for their agreement- not have it hidden on the bill & people finding out about it after the fact. Shame on this hotel for doing this! I would have expected better. If anyone wants to know about Destination Marketing fees just watch Marketplace who did report on it & the scam it is.

I came for business reasons and found the hotel the perfect place to stay. I was there over a weekend. As a single female I felt safe staying there. The staff were exceptionally warm and helpful. The restaurant staff were very accommodating. I look forward to bringing my family to see the wonderful sites that Port Alberni has to offer and of course we will stay at the Best Western Plus, Barclay Hotel. I will recommend this hotel to my friends, they won't be disappoinged.

I work in Port weekly and my stays at the Barclay make it an enjoyable trip. I enjoy the good cable package they have as I dont have cable at home. It's a nice treat and reaffirms why I dont have it at home !

Friendly Staff, home away from home, request they do there best to meet you needs, friendly We have stayed couple times with my grandchildren, Check in and check out were done with smile and knowledge.

We were looking to stay in a hotel for three nights. Our room had a couch and chair making it very comfortable. The room was a little small but served our needs well. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. The internet worked well. The attached restaurant had excellent food at reasonable prices. The front desk personel and cleaning staff were very friendly. The location was central and on a main street. we would definitely stay here again.

Great overall experience from check-in to check-out. Very good bed with plenty of pillows. Good friendly housekeeping staff that cleaned the room quickly and expertly. Restuarant serve solid food and good prices with good service.

Great place to stay in Port Alberni. Close to downtown and local amenities. Excellent room and staff. Ideal for those attending the yearly High School Wrestling Tournament. Breakfast in café was okay but could have been hotter. The rib dinner in the sports bar was very good. Decent portion and very tender. Good menu variety.

Quick business trip to P. Alberni, so needed a convenient, comfortable place to stay and here fit the bill. Easy access, seemingly "central", and good amenities - restaurant/pub on-site and a liquor store attached, outdoor/seasonal pool, indoor hot tub and fitness centre, conference rooms with great staff support. All-in-all, an easy, unsurprising stay.

Overnight on business. Pleasing exterior well located. But not really near any restaurants. We chose to eat at the hotel, which was fine. Check in was a little challenging. I believe I was asked 4 times if I was a member of the Best Western club! But I got my room and everything was correct. Room was pleasantly appointed, clean and airy. No artificial smells. Bathroom was plain jane, but clean. Shower was good pressure - a must for me! Bed and linens were comfortable. All in all a nice property and would return.

Comfortable, clean room & good restaurant for breakfast. They helped with our subsequent booking in Tofino. Restaurant was closed the evening we arrived for the staff Christmas Party, but they recommended another good place in walking distance.

We were happy to find this excellent hotel in Port Alberni. The room was spotless with all necessary amenities. We had a king size bed on the top floor at the end of the corridor which I would recommend. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The hotel also has a pleasant dining room. This is an excellent stop between the east and west coasts on Vancouver Island.

We've stayed at this hotel 2 times with a 3rd stay expected soon. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We've enjoyed dinners and breakfasts in the restaurant on both occasions. Food is very good with large portions. Don't be fooled about food quality even if the restaurant appears to be empty.

This was our second stay in the BW Barclay and it was a very pleasant couple of days while we were there for a basketball tournament. The room was comfortable, glad to have the fridge, a very comfortable bed and the updated [?] bathrooms are wonderful. We had 3 meals in the restaurant and each one was enjoyable and affordable....your restaurant staff are so pleasant and made us feel welcome. We would definitely be back when another event calls us to the valley.

The staff were great - the room was excellent; king size bed, fridge and microwave. We have stayed here before to visit family. This was our best stay yet. The restaurant was closed for Christmas, so the hotel provided a complementary breakfast. Because we are elite members of the Best Western rewards program, we were able to upgrade our room at no extra charge. We met the manager in the hallway and he took the time to ask us about our stay and what he could do to make our stay better (nothing!) Some of the rooms have been recently upgraded.

This is our second Christmas that we have stayed at the Barclay Hotel in Port Alberni. The room is a generous size and very clean. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. The hotel is walking distance from shopping and good restaurants.

Our trips to Port Alberni usually include a nights stay here, but this time we stayed 2. Everything is always great, including the restaurant. The only thing missing is having a microwave and utensils to heat up and eat the leftovers from the restaurant.

very nice good sized suite and excellent service. restaurant was good value, as was the bar. hot tub was perfect after a long day, had trouble with the access card but staff went out of their way to help out. will be staying again for sure!

Stopped for three night to explore local area. Easy to get to from the main road and plenty of car park space. Check-in was quite quick as I had already booked in on line via booking.com The room, bedding and towels were all clean, fresh and plentiful. A a fridge, coffee machine and TV were all included. I did eat once in the restaurant but was not overly impressed with it, the food was edible but lacked gravy and decent veg. The smoked mushrooms didn't have a smoked flavor they had a burnt flavor.

This is my second stay in the Barclay Hotel and the second time I was warmly greeted, given great front desk check in and even though there was a Christmas function going on, the guests were quiet in the hallways and the Christmas trees beautiful in the lobby. I dined in the hotel restaurant and enjoyed their food. It is wonderful to have a nice staff there and though I did not pop in to the bar, the laughter and smiles as I looked in still seemed welcoming. I tend to have high expectations of any Best Western Plus: clean, new and with all the comforts of home. This one met my expectations except it doesn't have any kitchenette rooms, only rooms with a fridge and microwave. My king bedroom felt a bit small and cramped. My bed wasn't made everyday. There's a good restaurant downstairs and also a pub. There's also a liquor store attached. The fitness room is big with lots of equipment and weights. There are restaurants within walking distance.

Very nice pub and restaurant. Food was very good. Quiet clean room with good internet and nice view very centrally located with easy access to most of town lots of parking and a beer store in the hotel

We have never encountered a hotel room that was flawless but this one came very close. We selected a inexpensive room since we were simply going to stay the night and be on our way first thing in the morning. Our room was a standard with one double bed. The bed which of course is the key element of any hotel room was excellent—both the quality of the mattress and the and the linen and pillows. The bathroom was small but well organized. We prefer a shower without a tub but in this case the tub at least had a broad flat bottom that allowed you to stand without endangering life and limb. Excellent towels, a good sink and toilet, shampoo and etc and a good quality counter completed the bathroom. Getting back to the room, paintings were actually hung in reasonable locations rather than being obstructed by lamps and so on as is often the case. The one queen sized bed allowed room for a sofa seating two, a coffee table and a single sofa chair—enough to invite friends if you had any in town. There was no desk but the coffee table was fine for brief stints on the computer. The coffee maker was simple and user friendly not the scientific monstrosities that leave you mystified as to there use. There was also a small refrigerator. To complete the picture, parking was ample and free, gym facilities available (unfortunately we didn't use them), the neighbourhood quiet, and the reception desk staff friendly, welcoming and very helpful in every respect. The Stamps Restaurant which is part of the establishment served dinner as well as breakfast—diner food but good. Our servers were very pleasant and helpful.

Nice, clean room. Pretty great location. Wasn't impressed with the food in the restaurant but this is a review for the hotel itself. It's NOT a five star hotel but you knew that when you saw the prices. I'd stay there again. I'm not a five star kinda guy.

the staff at this hotel are excellent. they are very caring and assist you in your needs. the room came with plastic glasses, but we went to the restaurant and asked for glass glasses and there was no issue in giving us some for the room.

I'm in Port on business every week so I appreciate the great staff and clean updated look of the Barclay. Could use microwaves in the rooms so I dont have to eat out for every meal but that's a minor thing

The place is always clean and staff are friendly and helpful with any questions you have about your hotel stay or the Port Alberni/West coast area. like the restaurant is open and has a wide selection of great food right downstairs after a long drive. Hot tub is always warm and clean!

The hotel is located near the highway running between Tofino and Nanaimo. There was plenty of parking. Check in was very easy and efficient. The hotel room was clean and comfortable, though a bit small. WiFi was fast and reliable. Everything seemed to work.

We Stayed at the Best Western Plus Barclay hotel when staying in Port Alberni BC. We always use this hotel and have always had a good experience. They are close to all the activities and near the fish camp we visit. The staff are very good and can answer most questions.

I stayed at the BW on a business trip to Port Alberni. I was expecting a small hotel, with the basic services, but this is really a full service hotel you won't expect to find on a small town. Parking is ample and the building is in a great location, close but not in the downtown area. There are a few areas that look outdated, but the rooms are very good, clean and with everything in working order. Free Wi-Fi service, desk, a couple of chairs, good cable selection on TV are just some of the highlights. I did not hear any noises coming from the outside or adjoining rooms. The restaurant has a very good variety of food for all meals and they have room service. Over all a great experience.
