Excellent service and rooms. Unfortunately the restaurant, bar ,and breakfast area was having a refurb but they still looked after us in alternative area. will book again and hopefully take my golf clubs.

"Brilliant find!"

GrantandLiz, Inverness, United Kingdom 13/11/2019

We had one night here earlier this week en route to somewhere else - and what a great find! Despite the restaurant having some emergency work done, we were served the restaurant dinner in the golf club bar with its cosy fire and it was lovely. Well done, Murrayshall! Our bedroom was large, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The girl on reception was delightful and the manager in the bar/temporary restaurant was great. All in all we had a totally positive stay and will definitely stay here any time we are passing.

"Beautiful views and setting but remember to check your bill."

Lulu380, Stewarton, United Kingdom 09/11/2019

My room for a night was prepaid so I only had dinner to pay for which I had signed for. However they had added a drink from the bar with an unsigned receipt. When challenged they made no apology, rather made me feel they were doing me a favour by deducting it.

"Pretty Faerytale Estate"

KikiM107, Boston, Massachusetts 05/11/2019

Lovely facility with very accommodating staff. The room was a delight of luxury at the end of Highland traveling. I was unable to dine in the restaurant because of a scheduled wedding function. The grounds are beautiful and picture worthy.

"Charming Country House Hotel"

diva62, Dundee, United Kingdom 05/11/2019

We stayed here recently for our wedding anniversary [ our second visit ] and everything was top drawer . The rooms are beautifully presented after refurbishment and the food was wonderful , delivered by excellent , professional and charming staff . Karen at Reception is outstanding and she could not have been more helpful , professional or charming . Fraser , Pam , Costal and Natalia are also charming and all the aforementioned are a credit to the establishment . My husband and teenage son loved their golf round whilst I had a walk in the gorgeous grounds . Highly recommended .

"Lovely location, nice hotel and great food"

Eilidh G, Isle Of Skye, United Kingdom 29/10/2019

Attended a conference here for the third year in a row, the hotel is making improvements all the time. It was the perfect location, affordable, great food and all staff friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back again next year, if not before then!

"Stylish Country House Hotel"

5
bigblogger, St. Fillans, United Kingdom 28/10/2019

Murrayshall has recently undergone a major refurbishment and it shows! The rooms are beautifully presented and the common areas throughout are tastefully decorated and welcoming. Staff are attentive, professional and polite. Make sure you arrive early and go for a long walk around the beautiful grounds / golf courses! And be sure you don't sleep in, breakfast is excellent!!

"Family get-together"

Stan C, Nottingham, United Kingdom 27/10/2019

We booked four suites for nine of us for a birthday celebration from Sunday to Tuesday. We ate in the brasserie the first evening and the food and service were excellent. Breakfast is also amazing. The grounds and surrounds are beautiful and great for short walks and runs. Although we aren't golfers we had a go on the driving range while we were here and the golf shop was really friendly and helpful. The service was a bit more laid back than I would have expected. Overall, though, we had a great few days, which I thought was good value for money.

"Anniversary trip."

User 24/10/2019

My wife and I often travel to Perth for an overnight stay. It is one of our favourite cities to visit. This is the first time we have stayed at murryshall hotel. We were quite impressed by the hotel and would definitely return in the future.

"A beautiful and homely sanctuary"

5
User 22/10/2019

What a wonderful stay I had in this amazing location. The staff were just so friendly and accommodating, making me feel relaxed, welcome and at home. I travel a lot for work as a woman on my own, and staying somewhere that I feel comfortable and relaxed is really important. My room was lovely, spacious and spotless. The food was great with the best chips I've ever had! (And I don't normally like them). A roaring fire and cosy seating in the beautiful and classy bar area was very welcome too. I will definitely make this my regular haunt when I come up to this region and couldn't think of staying anywhere else.

"Very welcoming"

4
Arthur S, Camberley, United Kingdom 21/10/2019

One or two improvements required in the bathroom. Refer to questionnaire. Restaurant could be excellent if either the floor was carpeted or the chairs had felt under the legs. Currently a constant noise which is off-putting. Splendid food.

"Excellent place"

5
traceyt736, Dundee, United Kingdom 21/10/2019

Excellent service and beautiful place. Great place for a wedding and the staff were so helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend and the food was lovely. The family bedrooms were lovely and very clean.

"Scottish Country Hotel"

5
CoriColl, London, United Kingdom 21/10/2019

A beautiful setting in Scottish countryside just outside of Perth. We are not golfers but still enjoyed the views and the lovely comfortable setting. The rooms and beds are very comfortable and they do a wonderful breakfast buffet. Service is very good as well.

"Great stay and great staff"

5
traveller123456277, Portsmouth, United Kingdom 13/10/2019

Had a great overnight stay here. Great and friendly staff, all very professional. Great dinner and breakfast in the dinning room overlooking the golf course. The hotel is quiet and a little old world but it is a great place to stay. We have been here before and the dinning is now much more relaxed - so much so they allow jeans and t-shirts at dinner - perhaps just a little more formal would be better at the prices being charged - that said for a night in a quality hotel and dinner it was very reasonable. Great golf facilities on site as well and about a 10 minute taxi to Perth train station - depending on traffic !! Definately be back

"Relaxing Stay"

5
Heather M, Aberdeen, United Kingdom 13/10/2019

Had a few days away to the Hotel and played golf. Very relaxing, very nice dinner and only a 5 minute taxi into the town. Enjoyed the weather and the staff were very attentive. It is only an hour from our house which is a nice break away.

"Lovely golfing hotel"

5
User 13/10/2019

From the moment we were welcomes to the time we drove away everything was truly great. We loved it. The nine hole golf course has the most stunning views. the hotel was lovely, nicely presented and very comfortable and quiet. Great restaurant and supper food. Terrific.

"gift voucher overnight stay"

User 12/10/2019

due to excessive rain the golf course was closed . However. made good and relaxed until our evening meal which was very satisfying. We were lucky in achieving an upgrade due to there not being a bath in our superior room.

"Beautiful location."

5
User 10/10/2019

Quiet, pretty surroundings. Lovely building. Outside lodges very comfortable, large and well appointed. Only had one main meal, but this was very good, a' la carte and rich. Breakfasts very tasty. Would stay here again.

"Lovely relaxing stay"

4
User 09/10/2019

Beautiful place to stay, extremely relaxing. Upgraded to a lovely big room overlooking the golf course. Room although spacious was looking quite dated especially the bathroom. What was disappointing was that on ordering our food we were told that there was no mussels or thick cut chips left? We could have the thin cut but not the thick cut? I was bemused how you could run out of potatoes??

"Murrayshall House Hotel - a great venue!"

4
Jane S, Bath, United Kingdom 08/10/2019

Murrayshall House Hotel is located within about a ten minute drive from the centre of Perth. We stayed there for 7 nights because my husband (and I) was/were fishing on the River Tay near Scone Palace. We have stayed there before and have always enjoyed the experience. The building itself is very impressive and the main restaurant is excellent with very good food and a varied menu. The staff on Reception as well as in the main restaurant were very efficient and friendly. It is obviously easier to build a relationship when staying for as long as we did and some of them became very friendly and interested to know how we had fared with the fishing. We will return next year!

David G, Whitburn, United Kingdom 08/10/2019

Stayed at Murrayshall a few weeks back while attending a family wedding. On arrival the hotel looks amazing however reception and allocation of rooms was a little disorganized however it was sorted out eventually. I am a Best Western Diamond Select Member however this was of no interest to anyone. We were allocated room 42 which is upstairs in the annexe section. The room was bright, clean and basic with no toiletries, coffee, tea etc, however we did get 2 small bottles of Highland Spring water free in the room - I have come to expect more from Best Western, maybe it was just a down day. The bed was great, really comfortable and all the linen and towels were spotless. Breakfast the following morning was again average, buffet style mainly, fried food was cold and had to be reheated and some people in my family waited approx 10 mins for replacements. Overall the wedding was great, staff are really nice and friendly however I do think there is room for improvement in the accomodation side of things

"Overnight Stay and Competition Meal in the Lynedoch Brasserie"

4
290562, Dalmeny, United Kingdom 07/10/2019

I was lucky to win a competition through face book to have a meal for 2 at the Lynedoch Brasserie, I decided to book an overnight stay as well. We checked into room 24 which was a lovely room with beautiful views over the Perthshire hills, our room was exceptionally clean and had a comfortable King size bed, tea/coffee facilities and water were supplied with an En Suite Bathroom. Fresh towels and toiletries provided. We dined in the Lynedoch Brasserie the menu had something for everyone. Food was very tasty the portions were big, so I would advise to not have lunch that day so you can enjoy your meal. I had the pasta to start and haddock for my main it was delicious, my husband had the salmon and Ribeye steak he said it was delicious as well. we both had a yummy dessert. The restaurant was busy for a Sunday evening but the staff coped very well We would of had liked our wine to have been poured for us. Breakfast was first class, a wide choice from the buffet, cold and hot food and also a choice from the menu if you wished. Staff very friendly. Only one little point please request soft pads for the footing of the chairs very noisey when people moving them. We will highly recommend to all our family and friends and will return.

"Lovely country house, stunning views."

5
Colin T, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 04/10/2019

Just a quick overnight stay but couldn't fault the place. Lovely clean room with stunning views for miles around. Can't comment on the food or bar as it was just a flying visit. Worth noting it's a little bit out the way.

"Unfriendly and dismissive receptionist and reservations staff. Nice hotel on whole."

3
Jmpffs, Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom 01/10/2019

Extremely unfriendly and dismissive staff at times throughout stay. We had to wait nearly 2 hours to be checked in - when I kept checking when our room was I was told to sit back down like I was a nuisance. There was no validation and no apologies until hour 2 around not being checked in until around 5pm (2 hours late) was unacceptable, not at one point was I offered a drink (had to ask for a coffee!) and then was told room was ready and it was not! To top it all when calling the next morning (ordering breakfast etc!) they didn't even say bye we're very brisk and put the phone down. We were getting ready for our wedding and the photographer, make up artist and the hairdresser all independently commented on how rude and dismissive they found receptionist when asking where our room was - like everything was too inconvenient and a bother. We were told curtly that staff had called in sick and it was like how dare I question why I had to wait until 5pm to get into my room!!! Some staff were brilliant - Gino at the bar was so friendly and helpful and detours manager responded to our complaints well in the end (but we had to ask for manager and at no point did staff think to escalate the situation!) and gave us some champagne and discount for terrible service. Some staff bringing up food etc were really friendly and helpful. There was a very nice receptionist on Sunday morning at check out but on the whole, the front desk service really dampened our stay and wedding weekend - it was incredibly bad. You must send the receptionist team on training or put them in other roles throughout the hotel. Reservations also pretty unacceptable - for our wedding party around 3/4 months before they had also changed policy (without any discussion with us) it was changed to a 2 night minimum policy and despite emailing to query this again I was totally dismissed and totally invalidated. Really weird as it was on booking.com for same price! This felt really money making and totally impersonal. It's a shame because the hotel missed out on around 10-15 extra rooms that weekend. On this basis our wedding guests chose ‘the lodge' another local hotel instead. I have lived in scone for about 20 years, with this I have know murrayshall for a long time; many family and friends working there, visiting weddings, playing golf and visitilng the restaurant over the years - the service as discussed really let our very special weekend which we had been planning with hotel for 7+ months. It's a lovely hotel, with decor, but staff service does not match.

"Disgusting Service"

1
Tony R, Manchester, United Kingdom 30/09/2019

Rubbish bedroom Service, staff useless & spoiled whole 7 day stay. Would not stay ever again. We stayed last two years for seven days & it has got much worse. We come for the salmon fishing twice a year and there are nine or ten of us in our group.

"Worst Afternoon Tea Ever."

1
EgonGF, Blairgowrie, United Kingdom 28/09/2019

I invited visiting German family members to an afternoon tea, boy was I disappointed. It was by far the worst afternoon tea I have ever had, and that's going from a two star establishment right up to a five star. (I only paid 50 pence less than in the 5 star hotel, which was the best I have ever had, unfortunately they were booked out because of the Dunhill Golf). Half the things they said on there website would be included were not. For example there was no honey roast ham, no roast beef and horseradish, no brie with chutney, no cream filled choux buns. There were a lot of other things missing and what was served was way below standard. The staff were friendly but unattentive, we had to go looking for them several times. WE WILL NOT BE BACK.

"great golf course. well worth a visit"

5
User 25/09/2019

we played Murrayshall course today & were pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course despite the many visitors the club gets. Both fairways & greens were in excellent condition & would highly recommend any golfer playing here who is in the area. One bug bear the buggy cost was £30 which is over-priced for the buggy rental compared to other local courses. One to be added to your play list.

"Golf hotel"

"OK hotel, poor breakfast"

4
gdinning, Glasgow, United Kingdom 23/09/2019

We were on a 2 night stay DBB. Nice room and OK dinner. Breakfast buffet was barely warm. First time we have stayed at a Country House Hotel in the UK where the cooked food is in the form of a buffet. I expect that at a Premier Inn.

Alan R, Guest Relations Manager at Murrayshall Country House Hotel & Golf Club, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit. I appreciate your positive feedback regarding the standard of facilities which we offer. However, the most important aspect for all the team at Murrayshall is that you, our valued guest departs having immensely enjoyed your stay and already looking to plan a return. "Lynedoch course"

3
Cameron L, Cupar, United Kingdom 20/09/2019

Greens had been cored but was well aware of that from pro shop when I booked earlier in the week. Course however is made of two loops of 8 holes plus the 1st and 18th. To be honest some real card wrecking holes if you're a bit wayward of the tee. Not the longest course you'll find but nice and tidy (minus one of two points - 9th medal tee is bad!) with great views. Good course to play for a change but if you get the chance to play murrayshall stick to the bigger course.

Alan R, Guest Relations Manager at Murrayshall Country House Hotel & Golf Club, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent round of golf on our Lynedoch course. We have enjoyed fantastic reviews over the summer months on the conditions of both the Murrayshall and Lynedoch courses, we have a very industrious team of dedicated greenkeepers. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future. Kind regards, Kevin Keenan, General Manager

"Over-priced, basic and generally a really bland experience - thought it would be better"

2
User 18/09/2019

Staff accommodated our request for an early check-in was was great. The setting of the hotel was great and the location was perfect. However: The room smelt of paint and felt cold on arrival. Some fittings were worn and were in need up upgrading - for example, a tap in the bathroom was loose. The radiator had rust marks on the top. The breakfast was really bland and over priced for what it was. On departure, the receptionist didn't have the courtesy to ask how our stay was. Some staff training on general customer service might be needed.

Alan R, Guest Relations Manager at Murrayshall Country House Hotel & Golf Club, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a balanced review regarding your recent stay with us at Murrayshall. We strive for our customer expectations to be met and surpassed and I am disappointed to hear that on this occasion our service and facilities fell short in certain areas. Please be assured that this will be addressed with my operations manager. I hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future to make an impression which is memorable for the right reasons. Kind regards Kevin Keenan, General Manager

My stay at Murrayshall was all I had hoped for. The room was gorgeous with lush velvet and wool that was subtle and sophisticated. All my needs were met and expectations exceeded. The staff was helpful answering questions and providing information. The food was excellent. Evening walks on the property are a must as they have stunning views. The location was perfect for the day trips I had planned. I highly recommend Murrayshall!

"A short stay in Scotland"

3
User 01/09/2019

I feel a trifle mean in only giving this an average rating - it is beautifully situated and we had no complaints whatsoever about the room itself. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the breakfasts offered a very good choice of dishes. What you may ask was the problem? We found dinner at night something of a disappointment. The menu did not change and there was a lack of choice of vegetables - three of the side dishes were potatoes in one form or another, one was bread and only two contained other vegetables. My starter of tagliatelle and tomatoes was very pleasant but a little dry on the top suggesting it had been kept warm for a while. My main course of a pea and asparagus risotto was good but my husband found his pork fairly tasteless. The second night we both had duck which we found to have a rather burnt flavour [ it did not appear to have been overcooked but was served with a peach and spiced granola which may have been the cause.] We did not try any of the desserts so cannot comment on those.

Alan R, Guest Relations Manager at Murrayshall Country House Hotel & Golf Club, responded to this review

"Nice hotel - evening service pretty rubbish"

3
717grobertson, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 28/08/2019

The rooms at the hotel are lovely, grounds are amazing, and the staff we met during the day were fab. I couldnt fault anything......until we came back from dinner and wanted a few drinks. It was like a game of find the barman - guessing there is only one person on duty for the whole hotel. bearing in mind there was about 10 of us sitting in the bar it would have certainly been financial beneficial to have someone staff it. just a bit of a let down to what is a lovely hotel with good staff rating 2 for service - purely because there wasnt enough staff on in the evening - the team that was there was great.

"A good experience"

It was the little conveniences that were missing. No conditioner for the ladies who were left short with expectations in such a well heeled venue and had to go to Perth to purchase some. No hand towels until requested (laundry had let them down that day) and we had to go find toilet paper. Little conveniences that could have made the stay perfect. For the golfers, superb course but as one would expect from a championship course, very, very long. Five long, long par 5's. Bring at least your electric trolley or better still, front up for a buggy. You will regret carrying or pushing a trolley.

Attended friends wedding at Murrayshall. Could not fault the hotel from the location to the staff who helped make the wedding very special. Although this hotel is a top golf location it is a special hotel for weddings and a few nights break.

"Gorgeous Hotel and grounds, poor service. "

Having spent two weeks travelling in the highlands we booked a night at Murrayshall as a treat for ourselves before heading back home. On arrival we were impressed by the architecture of the house and the gorgeous views. We had arrived at approx 1pm, earlier than the 3pm check in, so we thought we'd get some lunch. At reception we were greeted by a charming man (I think his name was Hugo) who said it wouldn't be a problem to get us checked in straight away, despite arriving early! We decided to go for lunch anyway, and headed into the dining room. We were the only couple there and were greeted by a friendly waitress. We decided to have afternoon tea, (because we hadn't booked would be about 15 mins, which wasn't a problem as we were in no hurry!) once this arrived we had to prompt the waitress that afternoon tea was served with a pot/cup of tea which she hadn't provided. For the duration of our meal we saw absolutely no one from front of house staff, but could hear them all giggling behind the kitchen wall. My partner had to end up going into the kitchen to find one of the girls, so we could settle our bill. We then headed to our room, which was very comfortable and clean. However a bottle of bathroom descaler had been left on the sink. When we headed down for dinner, we were greeted by a pleasant waitress, however she looked unprofessional and appeared to be wearing a cotton jumpsuit and trainers. She lent on the table whilst taking orders, and the service was extremely slow. There seemed to be one waitress serving the restaurant and one waitress bringing out the food. We hadn't been offered any drinks and had to help ourselves to the jug of water on the side. We then had an issue with our bill, where we had been overcharged for an item, which wouldn't have been an issue, however it took nearly 15minutes to get anyone's attention to rectify the matter. Despite beautiful presentation the food was bland, and certainly not worth the cost. Overall poor service and average overpriced food. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was a reasonable size and nicely decorated. However the walls were extremely thin and we were kept up most of the night by a couple enjoying themselves next door till the early hours of the morning, who then somehow had the energy to get up at 6am and continue conversing with each other, all of which could be heard easily through the walls. Breakfast consisted of cheap sausages and watery scrambled egg, croissants were not fresh and came individually wrapped in plastic. Overall overpriced and poor quality. Checkout was speedy and friendly, the man at the desk (again I think his name is Hugo), seemed to be the only one who knew what good customer service was. Overall a disappointing experience with poor service and overpriced food. Rooms clean and comfortable, however due to the walls, a poor nights sleep.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit and your balanced feedback which I would like to assure you has been taken onboard and addressed with my management team. Many thanks for your positive review of Hugh's customer service, he is indeed an asset to us. Sincere apologies for the subsequent lack of service which followed, we work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience and it is clear we fell short during your stay. Excellent guest service is of the utmost priority to us and 1 to 1 training will be conducted with my staff members involved. We are renowned for our cuisine and our Head Chef is naturally disappointed with your food review which he will incorporate into his daily overview with his dedicated brigade, it is with feedback like this that we learn from and apply to improve. Our recent £2.5 million refurbishment has been received with positive reviews from both loyal and 1st time guests and I am pleased to read your favourable comments regarding our facilities. Unfortunately the amorous activities of other guests will always be outwith our control. I do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to make an impression which is memorable for the right reasons and please do not hesitate to contact myself to make the reservation. "Very low dinner allowance for DB&B and poor quality breakfast"

3
User 20/08/2019

The evening meal was lovely but we were given a £25 allowance which only stretched to the cheapest options for 2 courses, we had to pay another £17 to choose what we wanted. The breakfast sadly was poor, real economies had been taken, very cheap jam, basic sausages, rubbery bacon and watery scrambled egg are some examples. No manager was available to speak to.

"Missed the mark"

stevelittle2019, Ascot, United Kingdom 15/08/2019

Sadly despite the wonderful location the hotel fell short in two main areas. The bathroom was dated and needs replacement and the levels of cleanliness were not adequate. The staff front of house were all very pleasant and accommodating but I was left underwhelmed and unlikely to return

"Loss of character"

3
PaulB1102, Northumberland 13/08/2019

Have stayed here on scores of occasions over the years, mostly on business but it was always the sort of place to return to as a couple for a nice break. This was our fist visit since the big refurb and TBH we both found it somewhat underwhelming. True, the place has been smartened up somewhat, in particular the rooms, but with the loss of what made it attractive in the first place. The wood panelling and deep sofas have made way for the ubiquitous grey and beige decor as found in chain hotels up and down the country. The dead hand of Best Western at work, no doubt.... The restaurant was a particular disappointment - the subject of the heaviest of makeovers, the traditional fine dining ambience replaced by one that had a touch of the Holiday Inn about it. I couldn't work out whether the menu was unexceptional, or whether it was good but just compromised by the surroundings. Breakfast however was not great, by any standard - the traditional at-table service replaced by a bog-standard breakfast buffet, not particularly well presented or cooked (and with a shocking amount of food waste at the end of the morning). And nothing remotely Scottish about the "full Scottish breakfast" which I suspect would be identical to one served up at a Best Western in Slough. Staff were pleasant enough, though I noticed that with the exception of one receptionist, none spoke with a local accent - again a massive change from how it used to be. There are a lot of complaints here, perhaps this is a bit unfair and we're just a pair of old grumps. If a place like this needs to go down this sort of route to survive, then so be it. Don't get me wrong - it's still a nice place to stay, just no longer a special place.

"Worth the diversion to stay"

4
Russell T, Preston, United Kingdom 12/08/2019

I needed a satnav to find my way there as it is in the centre of a maze of narrow roads. I had been unable to make a telephoned booking in advance, but Nicky, their receptionist, made us welcome and gave us the deluxe Murray Room. It was exceptionally well appointed, spacious, comfortable and well designed - one of the house's original bedrooms. She was also kind enough to carry one of our bags up the stairs and show us the room, conveniently close o the stair head.. Starved of news as we had been travelling all day, the manager (Kevin?) found me a couple of morning newspapers to overcome my addiction to newsprint. An additional nice touch was the very low level lighting in the bathroom to save switching on main lights in the middle of the night. Linen and towels etc were all in the deluxe tradition. From the style of the house I expected a grand restaurant so the Lyndoch Brasserie was slightly surprising, however, it matched the restaurants provided by other golf hotels I know. Nonetheless, the staff were welcoming, helpful and were proactive in providing us with both an enjoyable dinner and breakfast. The food and wine were uniformly good and we enjoyed dining there. If we need accommodation in the Perth vicinity again we would definitely wish to return. .

"Ideal for a wedding or golf day out"

3
Clydesider, Ponteland, United Kingdom 05/08/2019

The golf course is very well maintained, pleasant to play if somewhat hilly terrain compensated by enormously wide fairways. The terrain is quite wet so, very sensibly, buggies are not permitted on days when they could cause damage. Hotel is now very basic located in what must have been a beautiful family home in a picturesque spot in Perthshire and which continues to be well maintained superbly furnished. Bedrooms, perhaps inevitably, are somewhat cramped, hot and stuffy. Staff slow to serve, (perhaps because they were too few in number?) in the "Spike Bar", (a typical 19th hole serving appropriate food and drink), hotel lounge and dining Brasserie where both the breakfast and dinner menus are fairly limited. Management standards and customer care could be improved. Ideal venue for weddings and corporate golf days but look for better nearby if in Perthshire for a longer holiday to explore all the beauty of this magnificent county.

"Average hotel with ordinary service"

2
User 02/08/2019

This hotel, situated close to Perth in a picturesque spot in Perthshire, is a beautiful building very well maintained and furnished to a high standard. The lounges are comfortable but meals are served in a brasserie whose decor and furnishings rather let down the rest of the building and whose menus and presentation of food could be both slicker and more imaginative. The bedrooms are small, stuffy and under furnished for couples who plan to spend several days exploring the delights of Perthshire. Many, but not all, of the staff are hard working but service in all areas can be wearisomely slow, perhaps because too few are trying to do too much. This seems to be a very good venue for weddings or corporate golf days but not for couples wishing to spend longer holidays.

However the most important aspect for all the team at Murrayshall is that you, our guest departs having immensely enjoyed their stay and already looking to plan their return. "Disappointed "

3
PCPatchCat, Guildford, United Kingdom 01/08/2019

This hotel is beautiful - the grounds, the location - all quintessential Scotland. Sadly, the hotel suffers from a lack of management and customer service. Promises made to ensure a special occasion was made special were broken without an apology or a care. Bacon, eggs, tattie scones - who offers breakfast and runs out of these and then on the 2nd day - runs out of plates? The suites are tired - they just need some paint and removal of the mould in the bathroom! Simple things like a cutlery drawer with a single knife, fork and spoon for a room clearly for 2 and a fridge too big for the cupboard it's housed in. Come on Murrayshall - you can do a lot better than that!

Alan R, Guest Relations Manager at Murrayshall Country House Hotel & Golf Club, responded to this review

"nice hotel but expected more for the price"

3
User 01/08/2019

We stayed for 1 night and stayed in room 1, the room was nice but was situated at the top of the stairs and was noisy with other guests walking past the room at night . We were woken up in the morning at 7am by the cleaner hoovering down stairs. Our checkout was 11am but cleaner knocked on our door at 10.15am to clean our room? Food was amazing at dinner and breakfast . But in the evening they ran out of draft beer and peach and lime for the cocktails .

"Tired hotel that needs work"

3
crouie, Singapore, Singapore 01/08/2019

Unless you are staying here for Golf I wouldn't recommend the hotel. We stayed here for 2 nights and had numerous issues and while the staff did manage to resolve the issues it is not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Location - about 10 min drive to town so depending what you looking for this can be good or bad Room - good size but tired - we had to change rooms a couple of times due to noise and cleanliness issues. First room was above the function room and there was a very loud party until 11pm, second room was covered in dirt and third room was fine. Both First and third rooms had dirty towels that had to be replaced. Bathrooms - good hot water and pressure. Restaurant - terrible, food was average and very long wait times - I think they were understaffed Overall the hotel had huge potential but was a massive let down. I wouldn't stay here again and wouldn't recommend it.

Norma1822, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 26/07/2019

Overnight stay given as a gift but what a lovely hotel. We had a suite outwith main building which was absolutely beautiful. Amazing views and lush gardens. Lots of wildlife just wandering around. We were very well looked after by all the staff, who were friendly and approachable. We did have a little difficulty locating hotel in the first instance, very narrow passing place road to get there which made us think we we had gone the wrong way. Breakfast was delicious with a good selection. We loved the fact that the bar stays open late into the night. We had been at Scone festival till late and were starving, the lovely young man behind the bar made us the most delicious sandwiches. We will definitely return for another visit.

M6083BBpatrickh, Manchester, United Kingdom 25/07/2019

Stayed for a friend's wedding, which was fantastic. Decided to stay at the venue and was disappointed at every turn with the room, a junior suite. It was well appointed but not maintained and encountered a series issues. In no particular order room not tided from previous guests (had to check in twice), room was in disparate need of hoovering, not enough towels for the room, microwave not working, no tea supplied, etc. For such a beautiful place and with so much going for it, a disappointing experience.

We had a wonderful time at our son's wedding here. Fortunately, the weather was perfect. The location is stunning, so the photos were superb. The staff is excellent. Service was superb. Food was lovely. Couldn't be more helpful. It was a truly memorable experience. Our only slight disappointment was the size of our room. It was very small for two people. Two other people wanted to use it to get changed before checking in, but there just wasn't enough room.

"Wedding at Murrayshall"

User 17/07/2019

I recently stayed at Murrayshall for three days on the occasion of my daughter's wedding. Without any hesitation I cannot recommend this place enough. As soon as you enter the gateway you are presented with the lush green grass of the golf course sweeping up to the impressive hotel itself. The entire complex has recently been renovated to a very high standard; there was not any one area which remained untouched and the quality of the decor was very tasteful. Staff were brilliant despite catering for three weddings on successive days. I hope to return just for a peaceful weekend in the country. Thank you Murrayshall

From the moment we arrived Jake handled all our queries fantastically well on the bar/function area. The front of house staff were extremely accommodating and allowed us to enter our room slightly early so my partner could get freshened up. Those are the small details in which I found this hotel exceptional. As I've mentioned Jake was the stand out member of staff for me.

Sloanduncan, Greenock, United Kingdom 02/07/2019

I played the Murrayshall course again for the first time in 16 years. Clearly a lot of investment is being made in the course which was in excellent condition. The greens were fast and true and the views from the course are stunning. The Competition was well organised and the staff all very friendly. They have a created a new 'Spikes' Bar which is a welcome addition but I didn't find any locker facilities for visitors. Well worth playing.

What a fantastic find. We had a townhouse and slept the three of us comfortably with all the conveniences you would need. The golf course was beautiful and the sunset from the hotel was awesome. The front staff was very friendly and helpful. Only disappointment was poor service from a new waiter in the dining room. I do not think he lasted the evening. We enjoyed an after dinner drink in bar and the atmosphere was just perfect. Food was very good.

User 19/06/2019

Regular visitors to Murrayshall but really disappointed with the changes to the Lynedoch course which really reduces the hotel from being a two course destination to a single course (despite the website hype). Good to see active management of the Murrayshall course though. Customer service generally of a high quality - although Spikes Bar may price to be too small for multiple golf parties - and we can see the investment going into the upgrade of the rooms and common areas. A good menu and compliments to the chef(s) on some excellent food. Overall a good destination for a short break (but for no more than two rounds of golf now).

This is a lovely hotel set in magnificent surroundings. My room, in the older part of the hotel, was spacious, clean and comfortable, with all the facilities you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. Meals were good, not excellent, but served by staff who genuinely wanted to receive your comments and feedback. Would like to go back and stay for longer.

Beautiful hotel with views over rural Perthshire. Updated rooms, fabulous food and service. Would highly recommend this hotel for a short stay for a golfing break or for a longer stay based in this lovely location.

"Fantastic - Our Wedding at Murrayshall"

User 13/06/2019

My husband and I got married at Murrayshall on Saturday and it was absolutely amazing! We both live locally and chose to get married here for several reasons: gorgeous historic building recently refurbished to a very high standard, every member of staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and could not so enough for us, the food is top class and we immediately felt comfortable there. Rob and I would like to give a special thank you to Nikala, Murrayshall Wedding Coordinator. Nikala is what every bride and groom would love when planning their wedding, her help, support organisational skills and eye for detail is top class. She made me feel so calm and relaxed from the first time we met her until we said 'I do!'. An absolutely credit to Murrayshall! Highly recommend having your wedding here, beautiful accommodation, ceremony and reception room, great food, helpful and thoughtful staff and immaculate gardens and photo opportunities. Thank you for making our wedding everything we could have wished for ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The accommodation is stunning and rooms are decorated with a modern style but still with respect to the age of the building. Delicious food at the Lynedoch Brasserie in the evening and for breakfast.

This hotel is just absolutely stunning. Stayed in the millar suite for 2 night. Room was amazing. Looked out over the 18th hole off the golf coarse. Had dinner the first night and is was very nice. Breakfast was also very nice. Staff were great. Donna head off housekeeping was very friendly had some good laughs with her. And Gino who was working in the bar was a great host. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Stayed overnight at Murrayshall. The hotel is in a beautiful location surrounded by the golf course. From arrival to departure the staff in particular Nicki o reception could not do enough for us. The room was good quality tea making facilities, good cushions and pillows, comfy bed, tv, The bathroom had all the usual toiletries and a wonderful power shower. Breakfast was first class, good choice of food plus a made to order main meal. I chose the full Scottish breakfast and was not disappointed. Managed to get a deal which was cheaper than Travelodge and Premier Inn. Would definately come back again.

In the heart of the Perthshire countryside, Murrayshall proved an excellent venue for a short golf break with friends. A comfortable room and excellent food teed up a most enjoyable stay! PS A buggy is a must for the Lynedoch Course!

Golf course was good fun and a reasonable test for our vast range of levels, very good for an outing, would recommend buggies for those who struggle with a hard walk. Hotel service for our meals was really good, staff very helpful and accommodating and the food was good.

User 31/05/2019

Nice location and good facilities. Food at reception was very good and service was satisfactory but not quite there. Suite was very good although it was probably too big for us as we were only there for one night and did not get the full benefit. Did not get to experience the golf courses as the weather was very wet.

Comfortable hotel & room with a great view over farmland distant mountains. Golf course is quite hilly but the fairways & greens are in good shape. A buggy or electric trolley is a good idea. Good price for B&B, dinner is well priced.

"Lovely stay marred by disturbed sleep."

User 29/05/2019

We stayed in a lovely room above the Dining Room overlooking the Golf Course and rolling hills. However the music from the Dining Room permeated into our bedroom. We hoped that it would stop once the Restaurant closed but it could still be heard after midnight. When we contacted Reception they immediately turned it off saying there were no guests still downstairs. Unfortunately the music started up again at 7am. Hence what should have been a relaxing night away left us sleep deprived. Other than this issue the Hotel was lovely.

"Fantastic. Beautiful. Scottish."

Went here for a friends wedding. Hotel very Scottish in the heart of Scotland. Beautiful place surrounded my beautiful gold courses. Bedroom was immaculate and had everything we needed in it, ie hairdryer, iron board etc etc. Was absolutely beautiful.

Went here for a course and facilities were good. Accommodation was lovely although they were refurbishing so some of my colleagues had much nicer rooms compared to others. The food was excellent and lovely bar.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting, and was great in every way, but what let it down was the food a , poor menu offered and not well cooked , presented, limited choices. Apart from breakfast , which was excellent.

Lovely location and great deal on DBB + Cream tea, we were lucky with the weather and managed a little walk round the grounds, stunning views. Food was lovely as was the room, would happily of stayed for another night if not working the next day. :)

Wonderfu rurall location in secluded surroundings within easy distance for a visit to Scone Palace, Perth and central belt of Scotland. Very welcoming and knowledgeable at reception. Our only issue was the foreign lass taking the cooked breakfast order missed out the request for black pudding which was the one item we really wanted. But was easily remedied

"Peaceful haven"

Ewingston, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 05/05/2019

This hotel is primarily for those playing golf but if you are looking for a break where there is peace and quiet then you will find it here. There are tourist attractions within easy driving distances so for even non golfers, this is a pleasant place to stay. Staff are welcoming and friendly and treat guests as individuals rather than simply customers. The rooms are quiet and the catering excellent. Not the easiest place to find but then what are satnavs for?

"Amazing stay in Queen suite"

ddonnamac4, Scotland, United Kingdom 04/05/2019

we recently stayed in this hotel having stayed twice before, the hotel has been taken over and refurbished and they have done an amazing job,we stayed in the Queen suite with a four poster bed(bridal suite I was told)the room was amazing, very big with a seating area and a totally separate area as a dressing room also a big bathroom with both bath and separate shower. The view from the front window was over the golf course and the surrounding countryside.Dinner was really good and the waiter that night was very knowledgeable about the menu ,overall we had an excellent stay and would thoroughly recommend to anyone just wanting to get away from it all and get pampered

User 02/05/2019

Great accommodation and food. Service was efficient. Experienced disturbed sleep during the first night because of noise which may have been staff setting up for the wedding. The family accommodation was great with both bedroom and lounge. These rooms were well equipped With a dining table, microwave, fridge and kettle facilities. Comfortable lounge for meeting friends. Great weekend.

Better than we expected, good golf course, would like to return, and very good value. Even the rain did not dampen our spirits. I've finished my review but need to get to 200 characters, the staff were good too!

"Very nice hotel"

5
User 30/04/2019

Very nice hotel with polite staff. We stayed for one night here but I liked it much. It is near Perth (need to have a car) in a lovely place with a golf field. If you like golf then it's the right place - ok, I don't know a thing about golf. Good breakfast (British of course) offering about five different plates to choose. The room was excellent and large. I would have visit it again.

We were extremely fortunate with the weather. Lovely place out n the country but very close to the city centre. We were part of a wedding party that was very well catered for. Staff were polite and answered any questions we had. We would stay here again.

Overall ok..great locayion and views. However not much for children to do. One main meal was disappointing which was replaced, however due to the delays in cooking another, spoiled the family dining experience on the night.

My wife and I got married here at Murrayshall House on 20th April 2019! We had the most amazing weekend, which was topped off by all the hard work all the hotel staff out in either before hand, on the day and the day after! Great service received, we would highly reccomend if you are thinking of having your big day here! Would also reccomend for a quiet weekend away! Its a great place!

"Complaints ignored"

Paul W, Williton, United Kingdom 13/04/2019

We were there for 3 nights in the annexe. Fairway suite. Our room was not cleaned once during our stay. We mentioned it to reception and the same thing happened again, so we complained again, more forcefully. We were told that the “operations manager” would get in touch. We heard nothing, so emailed Charles Scudamore the CEO of Hetherley Partnes, the owners. His reply said the general manager would be in touch by the end of that day. He didn't, so we emailed again. This produced a phone call and follow up email. Basically the phone call blamed poorly trained and newly employed housekeepers. No mention was made of the fact that our complaint on site was ignored, probably the worst bit of the entire experience. We travel a lot. This was one of the worst hotel stays we have had anywhere.

KPKeenan, General Manager at Murrayshall Country House Hotel & Golf Club, responded to this review
Dear Mr Walker, My apologies that you were disappointed with your stay and that my subsequent telephone call and e-mail did not wholly satisfy you. Apologies also that I did not fully address the fact that your complaint at the time was not dealt with more quickly. Should there be anything else I can assist with please do not hesitate to contact me directly on at the hotel by telephone on 01738 551171 or by e-mail to [email protected] or on my mobile 07773 464987. Kind regards Kevin Keenan General Manager

Having stayed at Murryshall for many years we where not disapointed. The two courses make for great golf, the reduced Lyndock course did not spoil the fun as the views are still amazing. New refurbishment has made the accomodation brighter. Fantastic food, comfortable surroundings and fabulous staff. See you all later in the year for more golf and fun.
