Best Western Lovat Hotel,Perth

    « Fine for a night »

Stayed the night at the Lovat, room was a bit tired re the decor and curtains but clean and cosy. View out window was into a wall which did make the room quite dark. The leaflet in the room stated you could order breakfast and room service but there was no menu to order from. I did request a breakfast menu which was delivered whilst I was out and unfortunately reception didnt answer my call after i came in, I tried twice around 11.30. I did sleep well and checkout wasnt until 11 which was good.

    « Great service »

Visited in mid Nov. Arrived very late at night. The night porter could not have been more helpful. He sorted us out a plate of sandwiches and some beer. Slight problem with the room key, but all efforts made by night porter and night manager to rectify. Room was clean and very good value. I'd return.

« Night Porter so helpful. »

This isn't a luxury hotel, but it is great value. We arrived late and the night porter could not have been more helpful, thank you! Restaurant was closed but we enjoyed a very good sandwich platter prepared freshly for us. The room and bathroom were large and clean, the linen and towels fresh and white. The hotel was quiet and afforded us a good nights sleep. For what we paid (£38) we would definitely come back again.

    « Best location »

To reach the place just walk 5 mins to AK bell library and get on bus 7 to reach hotel .if you want to walk then 15 mins from main train station in case no luggage . It's a nice place to stay with a very warm welcoming staff. Arrived late with no record of booking but the reception very helpful and things was a sign of relief . To go about Sarah was lovely girl on reception to guide you well.Goodluck Sarah you add value to place . Bless you. Rooms are nice no lift so no heavy bags! House keeping very good . Breakfast tables nicely laid out , cheerful staff could do a little bit by serving warm milk and bread , all nice but cold . I guess need to put a toaster machine like other places to get warm bread and milk and tea on the main in thermos to keep warm . At 6 mins you can walk to supermarket lidl / adli . On foot city centre 15 mins . If you want bus just outside hotel famous lovat stop , you can't miss. If u need a hospital PRI is 3 mins. So overall a comfortable place to stay . It's a nice peaceful friendly place to spend few days in serene perth Mehr

    « late deal »

booked here for a late deal staff were really nice our room was at the top room was spotless and warm but could do with a facelift on the decor had a 3 course meal and bottle of wine the food was excellent and so was the service had breakfast which was very good as well overall i really enjoyed my stay and would go back again

    « Shocked! »

I stayed for two nights in a very dated room as a hotel is very old, I didn't expect to find in the morning the breakfast was so poor around 8.30am and nothing to eat, everything was so empty! I asked the waitress if the breakfast just finished because there were only pestries and nothing else! And she said I can choose what ever I want but nothing there and she can not understood that it was nothing to eat! So I orderd cooked breakfast and was horrible, the bacon was overcooked and the scramble egg with to much oil! Staff not so friendly! I won't return!!!

« The Trip Adviser ranking says it all! »

The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was clean and large but we were at the top of the stairs so were aware of a considerable amount of "foot traffic" late at night and early in the morning. Decor is old and tired and the hotel would generally benefit from refurbishment. Food in the evening was edible without being "gourmet" - we ate as part of a larger party and were given a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and the food was good.

    « Sunday Dinner »

Got married in this hotel nearly 10 years ago, visited locally a few times over the years and wasn't overly impressed! Well what can I say, Hotel now under new management and what a change! I initially contacted Hotel in the summer but unfortunately I didn't manage to visit.! The Manager/owner? Couldn't have been nicer, each time I messaged I was answered almost immediately and with a very welcoming tone. It appeared that any request they would do their very best to accommodate. We eventually went for dinner last Sunday with our small well behaved dog (organised with Hotel beforehand). We had a lovely table that they had reserved within the bar area. The food and service was brilliant and extremely good value. We will most definitely be back for a visit soon!!! Can't wait to watch the Hotel transform within my local community.

« Clean, friendly but a little tired »

This was just an overnight stop for us. The staff were friendly, the food was very edible, but not gourmet and our room was clean with a comfy bed. However the place, and our room in particular, looked a little tired and would have benefitted from a refurb. That said, I would happily revisit again.

« Nice stay at this hotel »

I booked this hotel as a birthday surprise for my husband. It was a one night dbb deal with a bottle of wine included which we had with our dinner. Our room was a bit tired but comfortable warm and clean. The dinner was excellent and the staff throughout the hotel friendly. There is adequate parking and although Its a fair walk into the city centre there is a frequent bus service which stops outside the hotel. We certainly enjoyed our break at this hotel.

    « Not Impressed »

Thought I'd have a change from using Premier Inns. Less than impressed with the rooms, the hotel is looking bit tired and could do with a refurb. The bed was on an angle, the floorboards are uneven and constantly creak. I do like character but this is to the extreme. The toilet in the bathroom was either broken from the wall or just fitted on a tilt. I booked in for two nights and left after one.

« A leisurely stay at the Lovat. »

First stay ever at the Lovat Hotel, my wife and I arrived over an hour early and were made to feel very welcome, We decided to have a light lunch while waiting on our room to be available, sandwiches and a pot of tea were lovely and went down a treat. Our room was a bit old fashioned but was warm and cosy and we slept like logs. Nice location but a bit to far to walk to town centre, good parking facilities. We had to book a table for dinner at 7.30pm because they tend to be busy especially at the weekend, The the starters and desserts were huge, and delicious, our choice of main meals was extensive and as nice as we have tasted anywhere. our breakfast also was to the highest standard. A new owner had just taken over the hotel three months earlier and his intentions are to upgrade to a very high standard. He is most certainly going the right way about it. he could not have been nicer, nothing was a problem. Our room was spotlessly clean as were the nice girls serving the meals.

« one night dbb deal »

my husband and myself love to travel to different hotels for short breaks. i have never written a review before but i felt i had to this time. we got a great deal through classic britain for dbb with a bottle of wine and late check out for £79 for one night. on arrival we were greeted by a lovely girl on reception who checked us in and directed us back out the main entrance to the other entrance where our room was. when we saw the front door we were a bit apprehensive. as other people have said before it is in need of renovation. we got to our room and apart from the large tv everything else looked quite dingy and in need of updating. we headed for dinner not expecting much but it was absolutely delicious. the service was excellent too. we didn't sleep well because the mattress was solid and was covered in the thinnest quilt i have ever used. we headed to breakfast in the morning expecting it to be as good as our meal the night before. how wrong could we be. the juices had ran out, the waitress topped up the orange when i asked her to. there was enough bread for one, and the fruit containers were empty. plenty of natural yogurt with no fruit to go in it. had cereal and the waitress asked if we wanted tea or coffee. we had a pot of each and the coffee was cold. had a cooked breakfast and asked for toast only to be told there was only brown left. we had that anyway. i noticed when leaving the breakfast room that they had a crowd in for some sort of conference and they seemed to be getting all of the attention. we booked out early and didn't use the late check out.

« Good hotel, Great staff »

I have had the opportunity to stay at this hotel a number of times and can only say good things. The hotel was in need of a "lick of paint" but the owners seem to be going through some renovations and it is certainly looking brighter. Menu in the restaurant is very good and breakfast service is very efficient. Restaurant can get very busy when they have coaches in so an early dinner is advisable. There is various room sizes and types and I seem to have stayed in nearly all of them and to date I haven't found any reason to complain The biggest plus point is the staff. Right from David the hotel manager through to John the night porter, you are given very friendly, professional attention. The ladies on reception and all of the restaurant/bar staff are just so friendly and they make a good stay great! Well done to the hotel manager for leading such a good, welcoming and professional team.

    « One night stay »

Stayed here for one night on a Friday. Asked for a quiet room; so I was quite disappointed to find we were located at the side of the Glasgow Road in room 202. I asked my son to close the window; unfortunately for me, it was closed. These were the thinnest panes of glass I have seen. Therefore I had an awful sleep with constant traffic noise. There was also a dull noise of either an air conditioning unit or someone's light from another room or another area of the hotel. The room itself was a bit tired but functional. For the price we paid; it was value for money. £10 extra for breakfast which was fairly good with several continental or cooked choices.

    « Great value »

We stayed on a deal from my,£79 for a Saturday night stay with 3 course meal bottle of wine and breakfast, the meal was delciious, the hotel is a little dated, but the staff were really nice, about 15 minute walk to town, really could not fault the value of the deal.

    « Amazing Hotel. »

Visited this hotel as we were in Perth for my fiance's birthday and we didn't have anything to complain about, the food, service and rooms were all excellent. Rooms were basic but very clean and spacious enough. Had food on the Friday evening this was amazing,I had the steak pie and the portion size was huge. We had got a deal for bed breakfast evening meal and wine on arrival what a deal it was. Could only manage 2 courses as the portion size was that big. Breakfast in the morning was lovely aswell, full cooked breakfast was again good size. Staff were so friendly and polite so all in all a great night away. If we are back in Perth we will definately visit the Lovat.

    « coach tour »

hotel is just average and staff are friendly and helpful and friendly if you have problem with stairs make sure you ask for first floor room as there is no lift just a few stairs. food is good but small portions

    « Anniversary »

My wife booked this and I was not expecting anything special but it was terrific staff were superb, had dinner bed & breakfast room was more than adequate nice mugs for tea rather than cups ,food was excellent would recommend to anyone looking for a nice hotel

« Perth hotel offering good value »

This hotel is located a short distance from the centre of the city. Breakfast was included so this was very good value. The restaurant is also very popular for a variety of functions Staff were helpful and assisted with our queries.

    « Electric car charger »

A great hotel in the Perth area for anyone who wants a budget break. The room we had needed some extra soundproofing, but was fine for a night's stay. The food and service were good, but not excellent. We were able to use the hotel car charger, but it would be helpful if the hotel had put a cone in front of it as someone had parked in front if it. We able to use it later though with no problem.

    « Wee Gem »

What a great hotel! Staff were absolutely amazing and so welcoming and friendly. The food was fantastic!! It isn't a modern hotel but the room was huge with high ceilings. We had a fabulous time and will return again soon!!

    « Friendly Staff »

We first of all arrived to be informed that we had booked a double room, I specifically booked a twin room as travelling with a family member. We were told that nothing could be done and that this was possibly because we hadn't booked direct with the hotel. I had proof on my confirmation that we had booked a twin. We were given a free drink because of this. The room was clean but very small and had I not known my travel companion very well, I am unsure how we would have coped. Breakfast was very nice and staff were very friendly, glad we were only away for 1 night. The hotel itself is a short walk from the town centre and I understand that it is under new management, I wish them good luck with their venture!

« Extremely Tired bedroom & hotel in general. »

Visited Perth to attend funeral - checked in 29th August - 2 nights via - £162 incl. breakfast (2). Lovat House Hotel was 'local' to the person who had died - indeed the Lovat was patronage by them many times over the years. We have stayed at the Lovat in the past. This time we were very disappointed! Bedroom - dated. Door did not secure lock from inside ( had to use chain). Door handle on wardrobe came off in my hand - had to screw back on. Carpet was ancient. Bed was uncomfortable - bed base covering frayed - bed felt damp. Ensuite bathroom floor had holes below floor covering - bath was scratched and slippery - shower holder went every way but the way it should. Breakfast was not great - not worth the £10 charge if not inclusive - bit greasy. This hotel is badly in need of updating - yet not reflected in the prices being charged. Others attending the funeral stayed at Premier Inn, New County Hotel, Travelodge, etc - no complaints and cheaper!!! Advised receptionist on leaving that we thought this was the worst room we had ever been in - (and we have stayed in many). He said refurbishment was planned. Staff pleasant. Spent little time in the hotel, and did not complain immediately, as our stay was was limited and we were stressed with the circumstances of funeral, etc.. Best Western feedback status 4 star?? - Official 3 star?? - in our experience should be no more than 2 star at best. Will NEVER go back.

« From Leicester for the Edinburgh Tattoo »

A coach trip to see the Tattoo. With 55 people on the coach we were quickly checked in for a two night stay after a long journey. Room adequate and well appointed. Dinner menu at 7.30 had ample choices when catering for that many people and the quality and quantity of the three course meal was very good. An A La Carte menu was avilable with more choices but I was quite satisfied. Breakfast had plenty of choices and was well prepared. Staff were extremely friendly and made me feel most welcome. After a very long day in Edinburgh at the tattoo, we returned to the hotel at 11.15 and were delighted that the new owner, Stuart, kept the bar open for us to have a nightcap. Good Food, Good Wine, Good Company.

« Promising hotel with a great team of staff »

Lovely hotel under new ownership. I stayed several nights and each day could see improvements been made. Rooms are comfortable with everything you need, food was good with an ever improving breakfast buffet throughout my stay! All in all, a lovely place to stay made all the better by the friendly team there. Can't wait for a return visit to see all the continuing improvements that the new owner has planned!

    « Big Hill »

Stayed for one night. Positives: good price; spacious room and bathroom with two basins; good shower once you worked out to ignore the ancient contraptioin on the wall; quiet; ok breakfast; friendly staff particularly receptionists. Negatives: if you don't have a car it's a good hike out of town and uphill; although room reasonably priced breakfast was expensive for what we got and there are no alternatives nearby; all the inside areas we saw need a good upgrade, the whole place is dull and very very tired. But I would probably go back!

« Under Amazing New Ownership. »

I have previously visited this hotel, a couple of years ago, and I hadn't been impressed at all. So I wasn't thrilled when my husband suggested a repeat visit, but as we were in the area for the Rewind Festival at Scone, hotels in Perth were booked up pretty quickly so we had to take what we could. Imagine my shock when we walked in to find the whole hotel undergoing a massive renovation! The Lovat in my memory was a dark, dirty, depressing place - the new Lovat is well on it's way to becoming a bright, friendly, family oriented hub. Even the staff seem happier! The paint and decoration is being renovated currently, with the restaurant next on the hit list. We know this because we met the new owner, Stuart, and he was very happy to tell us all about his plans for the future! All in all, I felt guilty for trying to convince my husband to not give the Lovat a second chance, and in the future, we will be using the Lovat for every occasion we can. Keep it up guys!

« Friendly owner and staff »

When we checked in we met the owner, a young man who had just purchased and taken possession of the hotel the day before. He seemed eager to please and energetic, so he will likely make improvements to, and be good for this hotel. On the outside the hotel itself looks like a typical North American suburban two- storey hotel, but on further inspection you see that only the front is that way. It almost seems like a modern front was attached to an old building of row housing. We were amused when we walked through the halls, since they reminded us of the circuitous hallways and stairs of Fawlty Towers. Our room was comfortable; probably a parlour in its former life, with a huge bay window. The usual necessities were there, plus an automatic trouser press. Bathroom was old, but just fine. The free breakfast was very generous and tasty. We would definitely stay there again.

    « Wonderful Party »

My husband and I......held our wedding reception at the Lovat Hotel. The service from the management and staff were fantastic. Every little detail was carried out with us and our guests in mind. We stayed over as did some of our family and friends. Everyone said their rooms were comfortable and very presentable. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We shall be returning to the Lovat which is under new management for our anniversary next year! Thank you! Sandra & Mike Johnston

    « Comfortable and affordable. »

I stayed here with my wife whilst on a recent business trip. The room was very comfortable and reasonably well furnished. It's fair to say that the accomodation and the hallways / stairwells are looking a little tired and could do with some minor refurbishment work. However, this doesn't spoil the hotel & the excellent service from the staff. I only ate breakfast here but they were very good and substantial enough. if i could change one thing, it would be the positioning of the over-bed reading lamps! Who decided to place them so low to the headboard that you can't even sit in bed properly without banging your head on them! That's my only gripe and overall had a comfortable stay!

    « Great High Tea »

Went here for a high tea recently with my family. We were given a lovely private room which was really nice. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was great. Nothing was to much trouble. We also got to take home the left over cakes. Great food and great service, will definitely be back.

    « Average hotel »

Stayed here for one night in a tour of Scotland. The rooms are clean but pretty basic, a little updating would go a long way. We ate in the restaurant and I must say the food was really good and very good value. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Pity the rooms let this place down.

    « Disappointed »

The receptionists were friendly, especially a lady in the morning who was lovely and very helpful. However, extremely disappointed with our stay. The shower cut out twice when I was having a shower after an extremely long journey (there was no bath). I had to get out of the shower twice to ring reception, which used up the two towels in the room, so I had to re-use a wet towell after I eventually finished my shower. No compensation or partial refund offered. No call back to check if the shower was now working. They asked if we would like to move rooms but I did not fancy walking across the hotel soaking wet in a towell. The rooms were dated and the bed was hard. Nowhere near up to expectations and a rip off for the price we paid.

    « Perect »

We stayed here while visiting Perth. The room was lovely and clean, the bathroom was large with a great shower. We chose to eat in the city centre which was about a mile walk to the restaurants. Well located and very easy to find. Only saw two members of the team, one to check in with and one to check out. Both very polite. Thank you.

    « Ok »

This hotel is a bit old fashioned & could do with an uplift. The rooms are basic but clean. The mattress was a bit hard & not very comfortable, the quilt was old, thick and heavy. The doors don't shut properly unless you pull/ push closed. One of our rooms was left open after being cleaned. The heating was on when I first went into the room so it was hot & noisy if you opened the window We had to leave before breakfast so can't comment on the food. I had a shower in my room which was tiny and dribbled out. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

« Relaxing night in the Lovat »

My wife and I stay in Perth four or five times a year. This is the first time we've stayed in the Lovat but it won't be the last. The hotel is set in a very quiet area of Perth , around 20 minutes walk to the town centre. The Hotel was quite busy Saturday night but we had a good nights sleep. The room was a wee bit tired but was very clean. When the curtains were drawn, the room was in complete darkness. Perfect when you want to sleep. The mattress was very firm , just the way I like it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I was chatting to the new owner on Sunday morning and he was telling me he has big plans for the place. To be honest all it needs is a lick of paint here and there and maybe a change of carpet here and there. The owner seemed like a nice guy. I hope he does well with his new venture. I'm glad we found this hotel. I'll definitely use it again.

« Great friendly staff and delicious food »

Visited here for a one night break and would highly recommend it if you're staying in Perth. Can honestly say that every member of staff was lovely and couldn't do enough for us. The evening meal was delicious and breakfast freshly cooked and plentiful. Rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean however the hotel is old with many creaky floors hence reason I've given 4 stars and not 5.

    « Very nice »

I must say I like the Best Western model - get existing hotels into a standardised situation but keep their own flavour. At least this means you roughly know what to expect. The Lovat is getting a bit long in the tooth and could probably do with a bit of updating. There's no lift so carrying your bags up a floor can be a bit of a mission. Unlike most of the other 'budget' chains, if you ask for a 'single' room you get one so that can be a bit daunting if you're big like me to get into the single bed. I was only there one night going up and down to the far North of Scotland but it was nice as a stopover. Big thing for me was the breakfast - amazing and very cheap. And the staff were charming and very helpful.

    « Comfortable stay »

We had a comfortable stay at the Lovat. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the area and were able to advise us on places of entertainment etc. The food wasn't great but it was edible. We would go back. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the town centre but there are bus stops very near the hotel.

    « Creaky mc creaky »

The hotel and staff are very nice. The food is good and fresh and reasonably priced although the bar was very expensive. £7:80 for 2 pints. The room as nice and spacious. The beds typical hotel beds. Just comfy enough to sleep in. The only real downside was the cream floors. I'm sure the entire hotel could hear us when walking around and everytime someone walked past the floors went berserk.

Bedroom and bathroom starting to look very "tired". Taps hard to turn off and on and flooring badly needs replacing in bathroom. All clean though. The staff from Reception to Chamber Maid are all very helpful. Would use again.

    « Needs a freshen up »

Stayed here for one night with my partner. Looks good from outside public areas are OK could do with a bit of a freshen up but clean and tidy. The room was very dated looking. Bathroom was hideous, clean but really needs stripped out and restarted. The carpet was stained and threadbare it also was bunched up in places. A rug was put down to hide how dirty it was but this too was old and stained. The walls were grubby and the windows were ancient. It was pretty warm in the room so opened the window it only opened full belt which during the night a wind picked up and blew the 1980s curtain off. Really really needs a lick of paint and a new carpet it would completely change the place. TV was decent but no remote. Didn't have much contact with staff except check in and the night Porter but all seemed friendly enough. Please take on board all the comments about the carpets.

    « Worst bed ever »

Stayed here on the 7/5/2016 for 1 night. It was a promotion from Arnold Clark. First I would like to say the staff were excellent and the breakfast was also very good. Our problem was with the room 204. Firstly it was very dated, the floor sloped towards the next room to us,the carpet had more lumps in it than a very bad made custard. The bed was the worst bed ever you could feel every spring on it. I got up numerous times during the night in agony. I ended up sleeping on the chair in the room. My wife never really sleeped due to the mattress either. When we complain the man on reception was very good about it. He went to speak to the manager who gave us a complimentary breakfast very nice gesture. But it would have been nice for the manager to come out and deal with it. I was told the manager would call he hasn't. He obviously thinks a free breakfast cuts it. Not

    « Decent pub food »

We popped in for a high tea and had a very enjoyable time. A good variety of food on offer at reasonable prices. The sttaff were all very attentive and polite. Would go back for another visit, however the car park is very small and very sloped.

    « Very tired looking »

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, however our stay was certainly not one of our best experiences. We were booked into room 208, very tired looking room which was clean but desperately in need of some tlc. The carpet was all rumpled beside the door, the wallpaper was starting to wear on the wall edge by the wardrobe and the bed ... well that bed resembled sleeping on a slab. It took "firm" to a new level! Uncomfortable to the extent that neither my husband or I slept. We didn't have dinner in the hotel as the menu seemed rather overpriced in my opinion. Breakfast this morning was pleasant I must say, extensive choice of continental and hot cooked food. We chose a hot breakfast and it was enjoyable. All in all the only criticism I have is that the hotel is in dire need of a good bit of TLC ...

    « Congress weekend »

Another great weekend as usual. Food excellent and we were very well looked after. I had asked for a special dinner on one of the nights and chef rose to the challenge and we had a fantastic four course meal with an appropriate wine for each course. Superb service!!

    « Not a good hotel »

Stayed here for business and the hotel was very over priced and it a poor state of repair for a best western hotel , the carpets were not even fitted correctly in the rooms , the Windows would not close and the bed was old and worn , did not risk eating here as the bar area was not clean

    « They've clearly given up. »

We booked for lunch for a friends reunion, about 15 people plus kids and infants. Not easy to find a place on a Saturday, so we booked here reluctantly. Function Room: Big but morbid. Dated pastel decor. No TV so we could not watch the 6 nations Scotland match. Unclear why we could not sit the the main bar area since we were the only customers in the place. Food: Revolting. Menu consist of: Scampi, Steak Pie, Sandwiches. Uninspiring and unhealthy. Somebody should tell them is 2016. Service: The Waiting staff was rather embarrassed by the state of the place. They did their best and were friendly. General: Peach Melba toilettes, 1980's decor, a total time warp . Not "classic" just old and ugly. The hotel is situated in a affluent area of town, with good potentials for business with the locals but If it wasn't for our visit the bar restaurant would have been empty on Saturday lunch time. The place looks and feels like the owners have just given up on it.

    « High Tea »

Went for High Tea and thoroughly enjoyed. The service was very prompt and friendly. There was a good selection of main courses (we both opted for the Scampi) and were given a choice of white, brown or mixed toast to start with. The cake stand and tea after the main course was delicious with a nice selection of meringue, scones, millionaires shortbread and carrot cake with a large pot of tea. Good value for money. Only negative is restaurant area fairly dark, lighting could be improved.

    « Could be nice »

Nice exterior and decent lobby/reception. Nice staff. After that, distinctly average. Room okay but dated decor, meet in the middle bed, warm cold water and a shower that didn't have enough pressure to work. A bit of work would make a difference

    « Mums birthday »

Took my mum here for a one night birthday break. General appearance of hotel from outside is very good. Ample off street parking. Reception area is nice as is the bar area. Reception staff were very helpful too. We were going into Perth city to do a bit of shopping and have a few drinks. The staff gave us a map and told us the best shopping and bars. They even told us what bus to get as it was raining. When we returned we sat down for our meal, again excellent service. I can only say one word about the food, phenomenal! I've never had food of this quality in a hotel, or even a fine dining restaurant. Rooms are old but spotless (the building was built in 1747) basic bathroom but again spotless. Happy to say, we would definitely go back. Stevie and mum (liz)

    « Hogmany »

Attended the hogmany celebrations here, we always like to try somewhere different each year, usually with success however celebrations here were a real disappointment. I used to think the Lovat hotel was a fairly decent standard hotel in Perth however this really felt like a low key holiday camp. Can't really complain about the food, it was buffet style and was hot and plentiful. The entertaiment was where the night was really let down - a DJ who insisted on SHOUTING over every record, got louder as the night went on, talked all the way through the piper at midnight and basically had a woman wrapped around his neck by the end of the night. Classy. There was realy mixed bunch in the room and you could sense the disappointment from most, particulay the older generations (which I am not yet). To top if off we had a table beside us (who am not sure if were staff at the hotel - eastern european) who had their own bottles on the table, drinking shots and behaving inapporpriately in front of the many children who were there. A wholesome Scottish hogmany it was not.

    « Christmas Party »

Attending a private function, I wandered through the nearest door to my parked car and found myself among people I didn't know. Silly me! The barman, whose command of English was not great, was baffled when I explained the problem, but he promptly took me through to Reception and all was well! The party was most enjoyable (we're a fairly quiet lot) and the meal, complete with Christmas crackers - absolutely tip-top. A few strange-looking beasties on our plates turned out to be purple carrots - weird but delicious! Our waiter - the afore-mentioned barman - was extremely pleasant and efficient. Overall, very good value. Thank you, Lovat... we Loved-it.

« Xmas Day Buffet lunch »

Family of four - 2 fussy teenagers. Booked 2nd sitting at 3pm. Greeted on arrival and shown to table. Was aware it was buffet style - cannot understand previous reviews. Why go and join a queue of over 30 people - wait until it is a bit quieter! It is Christmas - talk to your family, take your time instead of standing in a long queue. Starters lovely, more choices on offer than buffet menu suggested. Main course delicious - very good quality meat with a friendly chef asking customers "is that enough - would you like more?". Very unusual at a carvery style buffet where the meat is usually wafer thin. Every accompanying dish was hot including crispy roast potatoes. Sweets were also of good quality- again more on offer than menu had suggested. Chef was helpful - provided clean utensils and brought fresh supplies when needed. Would suggest some customers need to remember there are other guests coming behind them, it it is probably not a good idea to use the same spoon for cheesecake, fudge cake and christmas pudding and leave it for other customers to use!! Bought drinks at the bar - again not an issue even though there was only one person serving. Served reasonably quickly. Waitressing staff really only there to clear plates as it was a buffet which they did with no issues. Have been to other local hotels for meals and this is the best so far in terms of quality food - don't really understand the previous negative reviews. Would not hesitate to rebook for Christmas 2016!

    « Terrible Christmas meal »

Was so looking forward to our Christmas meal and it was terrible. Mediocre starter with split sauce, next was a cold cupa soup. Then steak which was grizzly finished by the strangest desert ever. No staff to serve wine etc, we opted for the sit down menu and paid extra for this, we wish we hadn't as we received no service to justify the extra payment. Then to finish it all we were charged for the coffees which should have been included. Have booked for New Year and will now cancel.

« The staff are top class »

My family and i attended the buffet style lunch on xmas day. I can only give full credit to the staff that were there that day. One young member of my party who is with special needs and can be hyperactive at times and display unusual behaviours were completely accepted and assisted by the staff and i can't thank them enough. Many thanks to the young lady who assisted us time and again although it was very busy. You made our experience special. Top marks to the cooks, the meal was amazing and the servers exceptional. I would recommend the lovat hotel, not by location, but for it's amazing staff who missed their own xmas to make ours amazing! My apologies to the other diners for any disruption. Thanks also to the management who were very helpful. Merry xmas! Xx

« Worst Christmas lunch ever! »

My daughter and I experienced the worst Christmas Lunch I have ever had!! When we arrived no one to greet us, yet to hear a Christmas wish or ask if we had had a nice morning! starter bang average, soup cold and watery main beef horrible turkey ok but vegetables cold. As for the desserts well the Baked Alaska I think came from Iceland and was basically ice cream smothered in a thick sweet cream yuk!! They then charged us for the coffee that was included in the menu all in all including wine £150. Will never be back it was a really poor show!

    « Xmas buffet dinner »

Not what I expected thought starter and dessert would be served but everything buffet style. Not great atmosphere. Staff not very welcoming or in xmas spirit. No names on table or menu. It was a case of help yourself when ready. No drinks menu. If you wanted a drink had to go to small bar which had only one person serving help came for a short time. No organisation of buffet, long queue for nearly 30 minutes before able to get main course. Plates cold. Vegetables looked unappetising. Beef tough and chewy roast potatoes and turkey good. Gravy watery. Expensive for what was on offer. Been to Bothy a few years back and had an excellent meal. Normally eat in so very disappointed. One of my party members was unwell and unable to attend. I was advised that there is no refund. I would expect to lose deposit but told had to write in to the director. Not good customer service, not the staff fault but senior management/ owners who are happy to take money upfront from hard working people. Overall would not return as poor value for money and will cater at home next year with quality. I would not recommend for next year. Even school dinners rate better

    « Christmas Dinner Dreadful »

Booked here for buffet christmas lunch/dinner. No organisation, wandering about looking for our table, no name on it. Last minute booked an extra person and table was only laid for 3 of us. The queue for the main course was horrendous, people in front of us complaing and people behind us complaining. I am in the line up as I write this review. Even if the main course tastes amazing we will not be back. Guy that looked like he was in charge had a dreadful attitude when we said the table was for 4 and asked if there was a refund, he said no in a dismissive manner. Been in the queue 15 mins now and still not half way. Lined up for school dinners, in shorter queues. Now at the plates 20 mins later, cold plates. Going now as getting food.

    « Fine for a night. »

Was passing through Perth on my way up north and stopped for the night. The reception was fast and efficient and also very friendly. We had a room in a sort of annexe. It was a largish room ( Victorian) with high ceilings. It had twin beds, large dressing table with mirror, wardrobe, seat, trouser press and large screen TV. Not modern but entirely adequate. There was tea/coffee makings. Hotel has free wifi everywhere. The bathroom was also large with double sinks and a bath/ shower. Toiletries are also supplied. There is a bar and a restaurant. All in all the stay was good and I would stay here again with no problems.

« Disappointing this time round »

I have used this hotel out of preference on several occasions without the need to make adverse comment,, but on this occasion I feel it is required. Firstly I have no grouse about the food on offer, both breakfast & restaurant, other than to say I was surprised to find the chef had left the building before I had chance to order my sweet. The general appearance of the hotel & reception is good,as are the rooms generally. However I was allocated a room on the first floor above the function suite when they had a function booked, with live band, on the second night when the hotel was less than half full. On the same evening the outside temperature dropped and it then became apparent the one radiator was no where near big / or enough to heat a very large room, which resulted in a semi sleepless night. Alas too late to rectify the problems I passed comment upon departure in the hope this problem does not affect future guests. I will return, putting this down to an off day in the hope it is not repeated.

    « Nice Lunch »

My sister and I stopped here for lunch and were pleased with the service, food and the surroundings. Prices are reasonable and good value. Staff at reception were helpful when my sat nav was playing games and our waiter polite and attentive.

    « Traditional »

Room was in a part of the hotel that was Victorian or possibly Georgian with high ceilings with detailed bosses and coving, furniture was in keeping with style, had their breakfast, very good. I would definitely stay there again when in Perth.

« Good hotel but outside of the centre »

We stayed for the weekend and our room had a few things wrong with it which I'm sure could be easily sorted, such as layout, carpet and curtains. The price we paid was average and the breakfast was very good, great selection on the buffet table and hot food cooked to order. The night porter was very friendly when we returned late. There is a bus quite nearby which takes you into the centre of Perth otherwise it is 20 minute walk.

    « A great long weekend »

Spent a long weekend (Friday to monday) got a good room wich suited me perfectly, the staff were very friendly and were happy to answer any question. The breakfast very tasty and I liked the way you could make it so that it matched your taste.

    « One Night - Not Good »

Stayed as close to family and have driven past many a time. I was very disappointed as it really was not good. While the staff were friendly enough my room felt 2 or 1 star (pictured) and the entrance at the annex was like a hostel not a hotel. Yes it was cheap but not cheerful. Breakfast was ok with better coffee! Rudely awakened by noisy upstairs guests who would have well as been in my rom the walls were as thin!! Much better available in Perth and reviewers rating this as excellent or good need rotate a look at their reviewing standards as I rate fair but even as a 3 star hotel this was well below par. I would not stay again.

    « Very disappointing »

We spent one night here on our way back from The Isle of Skye driving back to Edingburgh Airport, the only room they had left was a family room at the back of the hotel on the ground floor, it was also the room for disabled persons, i can only say it was disgusting!!!! the smell in the room was of rank moisture, the carpet was not even laid properly it was buckled all over, it was extremely uncomfortable the beds were terrible the shower leaked everywhere over the floor and the water did not run away properly. All i can say is do not stay here.

« Its the staff that make this Hotel! »

Hotel okay but a bit tired. lovely staff who were friendly and very happy to help. Breakfast was good. However we booked this hotel on a late deal site and I think it was worth the discounted price and not the full price they advertise.

« Overnight stay while touring Scotland - Nice place friendly staff »

Friendly staff , room very comfortable and evening meal and breakfast very enjoyable Perth has a one way system when you come in from the Dundee side and if using sat nav once your on Glasgow Road the hotel does have a sign as you approach advising its next left

    « Passable »

Lovely helpful staff, clean rooms but the attractive front of house deceiving. "............... Could do with a visit from the hotel inspector. Fae u was atrocious with little thought for dietary requirements. Afraid to say will not recommend.
