The Best Western Muthu Queens Hotel in Oban has been substantially refurbished to offer both Victorian charm and modern, functional accommodation. Stunning views can be found both inside and out, as the hotel boasts beautiful, cozy reception rooms and outdoor views of Oban that stretch for miles across the water. The friendly team of staff are just as inviting, keen to offer the warmest of welcomes to all guests. Reassuringly, you'll be staying in the only 4-Star full service hotel on the West Coast of Scotland - so there is no doubt about the quality you will enjoy. The lovely resort town of Oban offers plenty of attractions inside and outside of its parameters. Dunollie Castle stands just on the outskirts the town, and provides glorious views that reach the Island of Kerrera. The falls of Lora can be found just six miles away from Oban, and prove a perfect day out for any adrenaline junkies or budding photographers. Treat yourself to some kayaking or diving, or simply enjoy the outstanding scenery that is waiting to be snapped. We'd highly recommend Loch Creran for some of the most peaceful fishing around, just 30 minutes away from the hotel. The Best Western Muthu Queens Hotel is a magnificent building, with its own interesting history. The hotel is believed to have been built for the 1st Episcopalian Bishop of Argyll and the Islands, to become his home in the late 19th Century. At present, the building stands as a family run hotel, taken over by a friendly couple who saw great potential after staying on their honeymoon. The couple are proud to welcome their guests with unparalleled views over Oban Bay, an elegant interior and some of the best food in Oban.

« Great hotel, but limited parking »

We had an overnight stay in the hotel, staff were friendly and attentive. Nice size rooms, clean and airy. Breakfast was good quality and plentiful. Only problem and it will get worse is parking, only space for around 6 cars, on street parking was available but parking meters have been installed and will shortly become active. Are the local council trying to deter visitors? We certainly won't return if not guaranteed parking.

    « Night stop over »

Hotel situated right on seafront. Check in easy and offered a room with a Seaview for an extra £20. Room was very nice with Super king size bed- jacuzzi bath and kettle with tea- coffee. Short walk into Oban town centre. breakfast next morning little bit chaotic but there may have been a coach party in- breakfast itself was very nice with cooked options or cereal, yoghurt etc. Would stay here again.

    « LOVELY WEEKEND »

My husband and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend at the hotel, the rooms are very spacious and have enough room for your clothes, the bathroom has a spa bath ?? which was great, all little toiletries, kettle and tea and coffee. The view from our room 42 looked over the bay, we had lovely weather for the first two days. The walk into town is about 20-25 minutes where there is a few shops and restaurants and bars. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

    « Disappointing »

Firstly, no room in the car park. Construction work going on at front of building. Room was dated, but a nice Scottish welcome in the room(iron bru and some tablet). Windows in the room (no2) didn't close properly and there was a noisy extraction equipment just outside the window, thankfully it didn't run all night. Jaquizi bath didn't work and the hot water must've been close to boiling point. Bed was comfortable and I had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was awful. Girl at reception was very pleasant and helpful.

    « Highlands and islands »

Myself and daughter stayed bank holiday weekend whilst attending the area finals in highland dancing. The room was clean comfy and daughter was chuffed to see a Jacuzzi bath in our bathroom which was great after 2 days of dancing. The breakfast was fab a buffet style help yourself to how much u would like. If we qualify for finals next may then I will definitely opt for staying with you again. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend.

« Serviceable but not the best »

We checked in and were surprised to find there is no elevator to get upstairs to where the rooms are. Luckily, one of the hotel employees carried the suitcases upstairs for us and figured out where our rooms were. The rooms were perfectly serviceable but otherwise unremarkable. It appeared my bathroom had recently been upgraded, but the room was nothing special. The tea and coffee making facilities was no more than a bunch of things on a tray left on a shelf near the floor. I did not feel comfortable using it, as I couldn't tell how long it had been collecting dust down there. Breakfast was great - hotel staff were always friendly and helpful and brought toast and beverages and whatever anyone else wanted that was not on the buffet. The woman at reception went out of her way to help us locate laundry facilities in town when we were checking out. So, hotel, eh, but staff, excellent.

    « Smelly hotel »

The room I got stuck in was a smelly mess. It stunk of a mixture of paint, sewage, and cleaning supplies. I had to open my window to get rid of the smell and it never went away. I had to sleep with my window open at night and freeze because the smell was so terrible. I asked to switch rooms and was told I would have to pay more to switch rooms. The breakfast was a mess. No plates out had to go and search for someone to find more plates. Half the food trays was empty. Over a dozen dirty tables that needed to be bussed. I asked the waitress for toast and she took the leftover toast off the table next to be and gave it to me. Disgusting. What a disgrace. Don't stay here, not worth your money.

« Noisy room and not a good choice for people of limited mobility »

I stayed in a single-bed room for two nights. The bed itself was not very comfortable and as I was near the entrance to the floor there was quite a bit of noise from other tenants. Soundproofing non-existent, as far as I could tell, as I could overhear muffled conversations from the room above me, as well as the room to the side. My room was in the back, and there was no noise from the outside, although there was also no view. Rooms at the front would have a nice view of the bay. To get to the rooms, you must be able to walk up a decent flight of stairs before reaching the lifts. If you are a frail elderly person or handicapped physically, this hotel will not work for you. I ate breakfast here both mornings and was pleased with the amount of choices. The staff was also very kind and provided excellent service.

    « Nice hotel »

We have just returned home from a nights stay at this hotel while visiting Oban. On arrival we had no problem parking there are limited parking spaces bit there are loads of places to park across the road. We got checked in quickly and given directions to our room, the room was an ok size for what's needed and the bed is huge although a little hard for us but that's personal preference. Room was lovely and clean with a nice view. The only meal we had in the hotel was breakfast and we found no problem with it, yes it's buffet and not pipping hot but neither was it cold, when booking we knew it was a buffet so got exactly what we expected. The only negative we had was the noises from the lift and the rooms around us, I was woken a fair bit by snoring from upstairs but there is nothing the hotel can do about that. All in all a very pleasant stay and we already plan to return soon

« Great location, poor parking, cold breakfast »

Room was ok, clean and tidy. Main problem is lack of parking despite their website saying 24 hr free parking, it only has about 8 spaces and you would either need a tin opener or be a specially trained advanced motorist to actually park in the awkward spaces. Buffet breakfast standard fayre, always cold by the time you get back to table, often running out of items and you wait ages for the toast to arrive, usually after you've finished your breakfast which is pretty poor. Lots of morose staff wandering about wearing black, feels like a funeral parlour and the majority don't understand what you are trying to convey due to language interpretation problems.

« Much needed break away »

This hotel is not four star, three at a push. We were put in room 15 , lift was right behind us, didn't get a wink of sleep. Complained next morning at reception and she said they hadn't had any complaints before- eh read trip advisor there are loads of complaints, however she offered to move us to room 16 which was on other side of lift. She then decided to move us to room 10 which was very quiet. The only good thing we can say about hotel is it has a lovely bath! No extractor fans in bathrooms either! Food is awful, advertised as chefs pate, more like tescos, served with biscuits and onion chutney, not even a bit of salad. I ordered chips with mine as nothing on menu I wanted, they were burnt, I couldn't eat them. My husband had fish and chips, also burnt chips and underneath the batter of the fish it was the size of a fish finger. Prices sky high, if you look at online menu it is full of seafood, nothing like the real menu. Breakfast was edible, I ordered fish with poached eggs, it was cold. Second morning smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, eggs were warm, only just. I would not go to this hotel again, we went years ago and it was fantastic, great food and great customer service. In the three days we were there we didn't see a soul in the bar or lounge area, that speaks for itself. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone, very disappointing !

    2
    « To noisy »

Good points were great location, clean very friendly staff.Down side was our room was beside the lift and stairs so heard guests all night walking up and down the stairs.Worse was we could hear guests in the room next door and above talking, snoring and walking heavily. We found we couldn't get a decent sleep so nota relaxing weekend at all. Would not stay here again due to the noise and lack of privacy.

« Decent hotel. Old but characterful. »

Little worn round the edges but kept clean. Except the windows! Decent breakfast and small bar area. Comfy couches, friendly efficient service. Good location as it is only a little walk from the town centre, meaning that is a bit quieter. Lost one mark for the old bathroom with weak shower.

    4
    « Great ?Suite' »

Wasn't sure what to expect given some of the recent reviews, however we were pleasantly surprised but do have to call out it was a front facing suite we were in and as such paid a bit more than would have expected (£171 for two B&B for one night) but worth it for the view. Pro's: - Location ideal - View across the water was amazing - Suite was spacious, separate bedroom/sitting room and was clean - Staff helpful, friendly and attentive - Good buffet breakfast Cons: - Dated and bit old fashioned - Electric heaters and it was hard to get good temperature - TV signal was bad on all channels - 11am checkout (generally 12pm especially on Sunday) Would recommend but would check out view from room as some looked to be facing into walls etc.

« Lovely stay in Oban »

We spent two nights at this lovely hotel recently. The hotel is in a great position-about a 10 minute walk into town with plenty of parking either in the hotel forecourt or on street parking. The online booking process was easy and check in and check out were fast and efficient. We had a lovely double room on the 4th floor with a fantastic view of the bay. The room was very clean. All staff were extremely kind and helpful. We would definitely stay at this hotel again if we were to visit Oban again which we hope to do so soon.

    3
    « Disappointed »

Having stay here over the last year many times while on business, I now find the hotel has increased its rates massively with the new owners, and listed as 4 star yet no where near 4 star compared to many other hotels I stay in during the year. Last year this hotel was welcoming, good food and nice atmosphere... 2018 I am disappointed as I've had to look for other accommodation in Oban while away with work and feel let down by hotel group. They are not interested in regular business only charging ridiculous prices and tourism. I stay in hotels every week, all over Scotland and the UK with my job and have not been treated like this in any other hotel in the UK... There is not enough parking and you have to park a good walk away from the hotel. Menu was limited compared to last year.. Muthu Group should address customer care and service in my opinion... I have stayed in other Muthu hotels world wide and this is the first time I've come up against an issue. luckily for next Work visit to Oban I've got a nice hotel which I've stayed in years ago and at a more normal hotel rate for the standard of hotel..

    « One night stay »

Room was clean and plenty warm enough. Wallpaper coming off in a few areas in the room, but bathroom clean. Advised to book for dinner, but only one other couple. Good food - main only. Weirdly we were never offered desserts or coffee! Breakfast was very good for a buffet. Staff were all very friendly.

    3
    « Chain hotel »

Stayed for two nights. Room OK, clean and well equipped. Food at dinner was very good, also several nice restaurants a short walk away. Breakfast not to same standard, all pre-cooked buffet style, did not enjoy. Parking limited. Do not book direct without checking Booking.com first. Two night stay was £100 cheaper, which is odd as hotel website says cheapest prices available booking direct.

    « Not a 4* »

Tired and shabby hotel with a horrible damp smell throughout. We had to wait sometime for the receptionist, who was not the friendliest of people. Asked if there was a lift but only from 2nd floor up. Rooms clean but the damp smell and awful views of a wall really let it down. The mugs provided in the room needed a good wash as both had hair in them. Walls paper thin. Could hear the occupants in the room next door coughing all night. Same receptionist on check out was pretty ineffective. Staff smoking at front door wasn't great for the hotel either. Seriously concerned about the electrics too. Kettle had to be balanced on edge of dressing table. Should have paid budget hotel prices not four star prices.

    « Overnight stay »

Stayed for one night. Room was great, very clean and had jacuzzi bath. Staff were lovely. Breakfast let the hotel down - food not replaced quickly enough and food was cold - would make me think twice about returning.

    « Lovely hotel »

We just spent 2 nights in this lovely hotel. When you first enter it looks a bit dated but looks can be deceiving. Out bedroom was on the third floor and was spotlessly clean, spacious, Jacuzzi bath ensuite, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer etc. We wanted somewhere central but quiet and that's what we got. 10 mins walk to the centre of Oban, the hotel overlooks the sea. £120 for 2 nights b&b for 2, breakfast was great and the staff were helpful. We got exactly what we wanted.

« Not so Best Western »

Well, I cant review the hotel in any depth as we couldn't get there due to the bad weather and train cancellations. What I can review is the staff and the lack of compassion after we were charged full price for not even checking in. I did inform them on the day and wrote to customer services, to explain the situation, Didn't want a refund, just wanted a rebooking. but wouldn't even consider it. I won't ever use Best Western again and don't recommend them.

    « Lovely Staff »

Lovely staff and great value for money. I stayed here last week for the first time and the first thing that stood out was the lovely friendly staff. The hotel is in great location and the room I had with the partial sea view was perfect with a great view of the bay. The room was spotless with everything I needed for a great stay although I agree with the comments on the water pressure for the shower (but I am sure that will be rectified) and the spa bath was a great way to unwind after a long day. The breakfast was excellent and along with the view a great way to start the day and once again the waiting staff were so friendly. A huge thank you and well done to Mihaela and all her team and I will definitely stay here again.

    « Comfortable Stay »

Stayed on a business overnight. Great location with free on site parking (Might be tricky high season). Friendly, informative welcome. Clean, comfortable room with partial sea view, comfortable bed and good shower & spa bath. Decor throughout the hotel good, comfortable sea facing lounge area and bar. Jolomo paintings throughout, very nice. Suites are available which I'm sure will be very nice with spectacular views. Recommend.

    5
    « Fantastic hotel »

I stayed here for two nights and got it for a great price with breakfast included. The room was clean, and the bed was epic! We could control our own heating, and there was a window that could open. The onky negative i have about the room was the showers wayer pressure but the heat was fine. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We sat in the bar one night and the staff chatted away. The breakfast was brilliant, we had a buffet one day with hot food, toast, cereals, pastries etc and then the second day the staff were taking orders, but you could order basically anything you wanted too. It was in a fantastic location, right on the seafront so the view was lovely. All round a great trip. I would stay here again.

« Great choice in Oban! »

We arrived late having been stuck in the bad weather, but got a warm welcome from the staff. Check-in was speedy and our room had everything we needed. It looked freshly decorated and was modern, warm, had a huge bed, good wifi and spa bath. Our only minor complaint was the shower pressure, which was a bit low. We had a good breakfast, and all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended!

    « Disappointing Stay »

Was booked by company on work related stay so did not pick this one myself. Having said that first looks and it looks nice and welcoming and you can't fault the staff they are polite and helpfull. Room was OK a bit on the small side along with the TV no bath in room but shower was a large one although water pressure was rubbish and all I got was a trickle. Now the food had the handmade beef burger if this is what 4 star hotels serve then next time will go to the local chippy was full of fat and gristle chips nothing special and a hand full of salad. Definitely not a 4 star hotel

    4
    « Oban visit »

Hotel was well presented, rooms very nice, breakfast very good, staff very helpful and polite. Unfortunately our only fault was that the person in the room above got up at 5am and walked up and down for an hour, and as floors were made of timber the noise was very loud and totally disturbed our sleep. Having mentioned this to the receptionist we were told it was a company member from head office. We were offered to move rooms but as it was our last night we didn't bother.

  • 3
    « Was ok. »

Stayed here for one night with my husband for our anniversary. If you get offered 15,25,35,45 room then beware as you are right next to the lift which is very loud. We asked to changed but was given 36 so the other side of the lift. Beware that the walls are paper thin. The bed is huge and very comfy. The spa bath is well cool and relaxing. The breakfast was very nice. Not sure if i would stay again tho Tbh

« Very good , old cosy hotel! »

Great position and parking. Happy staff from reception to restaurant. Excellent breakfast that is not rushed in any way. Room was good , if a little warm, but in Feb it was appreciated. Ask for partial view room and you can see excellent views of the harbour and ferries.. I would definitely use this hotel again, as the team outstrip the local competition on service.

    4
    « Almost faultless. »

We had a lovely overnight stay here. Not too great a start - we arrived early, went to see if we could get in early or leave our car in the car park and were told rather brusquely 'You can't check in until 3'. However, overall impressions were very positive - clean, pleasant room with partial sea view - clean bathroom with jacuzzi bath, lots of hot water and a decent shower - very good buffet breakfast (though fruit selection could have been better). My husband was delighted to have potato scones! The hot food was plentiful and well cooked/ served. There was a choice of juice, cereals and pastries. Could have been better - there was one packet of shortbread on the tea tray in a double room which seemed a bit penny pinching - the corridor near the lift smelled strongly of smoke - the position of doors made moving through the hotel tricky with luggage - nowhere to store bikes inside (though this is not advertised, so we were just hoping) I believe I am right in saying that you needed to climb at least one flight of states to get to the bedrooms/ lift. Not a problem for us, but may be for others.

    « Lovely stay & great value »

My partner & I stayed here for 3 nights and both of us can't fault it in any way. Check in was quick & easy. We had a room with a partial sea view which was a bonus as we only booked about 2hrs before arriving. The room itself was spacious, very modern, extremely clean & warm. The jacuzzi bath was a definite hit too, after getting caught in the rain & was a great way too get the heat back into us. Separately, of course. Breakfast was plentiful & had a fair choice too. We ate dinner there twice & that also was exceptional. The service was quick, efficient. We would both like to thank ALL the staff at The Queen's Hotel for their kindness & hospitality during our stay. Keep up the great work. I would certainly come back to this hotel & highly recommend it.

    « Nice stay but not 4* »

The hotel looks nice from the outside and has a small car park to the front. The hotel is on the esplanade, looking out to the water so is a good location and roughly 1/2 mile walk from Oban town centre - a nice walk! And about 1.5 mile walk in the other direction to Ganavan Sands beach - another nice walk! Check in was pleasant and quick - our rooms weren't ready as we were early but the receptionist was friendly and polite, even making us a cup of tea. The common areas were clean but very dated and cold. It felt a bit damp and was quite dark. Our room was quite far back in the hotel - again clean but small and very dated. Bathroom was very basic, small and shower wasn't very powerful - but fine for a night's stay, nothing luxurious. The breakfast room was again in need of a modern update. Table service was nice but they didn't have any of the options I wanted for breakfast they had on their menu including fish which was a real shame. They didn't provide water and selection of fruit etc wasn't very good. When they did bring out the meal they included beans which I asked to exclude, they took it away but just scraped it off the plate and came back with a dirty plate. Staff were lovely throughout and check out was quick and simple. A wee refresh would help this hotel greatly as it's in a fab location but I would rate it as a decent 3 star hotel, not a 4.

    4
    « Great wee place »

Fully enjoyed my trip and will be back. The hotel had everything I needed, check in was simple, and so was check out. I didn't eat in, so can't comment on the food but I fully enjoyed my visit and I will be returning to meet up with family members soon.

    4
    « Great Break »

Stayed at this Hotel for 3 nights in between Christmas & New Year. Lovely warm, clean room. Only ate breakfast in the Hotel but had everything you could want, staff were very attentive, quick to remove dirty plates etc. The only down side was that there was not enough parking, we had to park down the road not really a problem for us but could be for older people or those with a family and more luggage.

    4
    « Very Pleasant »

Overview: The hotel is clean, friendly and the breakfasts are great. We stayed for three nights before new year. The car park is small but we got a space each day. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Our room was standard and just large enough. Good sea view. The power baths are great! The wifi is really good throughout. There was a little noise from other rooms but not enough to be a problem. The breakfast choice is excellent. Form fresh fruit, to full cooked options, as well as options for kippers, fish and eggs cooked to your choosing. All followed by a variety of pasteries if yiu still had room. Really good quality. The location is good being 5 minutes walk out of the centre right on the sea front. All in all a great stay and good value...

    « Brilliant hotel. »

Arrived on the 27th December for an overnight stay at this lovely hotel. Allocated room 27 that had a sea view and was perfectly pleasant. Bright, clean room with a comfy queen size bed and flat screen TV. Very clean, modern toilet with a jacuzzi bath and overhead thermo mixer shower, not a problem with hot water and the jacuzzi was a welcome bonus. Great nights sleep and up next morning for an included breakfast. Full Scottish or cereals, toast, pastries etc. Lovely food, cooked to perfection and constantly replenished. All in all a perfect base in a great Scottish seaside resort. Totally recommended.

    4
    « Good stay. »

We stayed the night after our son booked the room for us, We love Oban and always stay over night when we get the chance. The hotel was fine, Staff very helpful and always smiling. We did not have a meal in hotel as we had table booked down on pier. But the breakfast was one of the best I have had in a best western. The bacon, sausage, eggs etc etc all cooked to perfection. Plenty of choice to for the cereal brigade, fruit, and bagels etc. All in all a good stay and would book again.

    « Lovely, comfortable stay. »

Stayed here for 1 night on the 21st Dec.Car parking right outside, limited spaces but as it was very quiet we had no problems. Lovely lady at reception, quick, easy check in.Our room was a superking double, pleasantly surprised at how lovely, fresh& clean it was, great value for money.Everything you could need, coffee, tea facilities etc,TV, jacuzzi bath was a bonus. Only downside was that the walls are quite thin, could hear next door&the lift, didn't keep us awake though. Breakfast was lovely, huge selection including kipper's &full Scottish. Definitely return to this hotel, excellent value, clean&very friendly.

    4
    « great inexpensive hotel »

First that bad points - rooms are small, slightly tired and dated. I had no hot water for my shower. Good points - the hotel is in a great location with impressive sea views and spotlessly clean. Terrific breakfast and lovely staff who couldn't do enough for us.

    « Great wee visit »

Very nice hotel. Rooms were comfortable and clean plus the staff helpful and friendly. Its probably a 10 minute to the edge of the town but its an enjoyable walk due to the scenery. Well worth a visit.

    5
    « Good base »

nice little hotel , very clean and staff were first class, short (6-7 minute ) walk into town, lovely views over Oban bay , a very comfortable 2 night stay , nice lounge bar too , would recommend this hotel

    « Lovely »

Lovely check in and nice clean rooms. Service was great lots of staff around even when it was quiet. Breakfast was wonderful one of the best I have had in Scotland.. Staff are all very helpful. Clean hotel. Will definitely use again.

    3
« Great location and welcoming staff »

The tiny carpark and tired rooms let this hotel down. Breakfast is a standard offering although nothing exceptional. If i was back in Oban i would stay here again, thankfully I probably won't be going back to Oban.

    3
« If expecting 4 stars it isn't this one »

The hotel parking facilities very limited as has been mentioned previously. We stayed in the concrete block of an annexe at rear of property. Very old and noisy lift that started and stopped suddenly (there are notices alerting you). The bedroom although small was very clean no complaints about cleanliness at all. We didn't have dinner but had breakfast and they catered for every taste. So plus points there. The staff were very helpful and service was good. The hotel is a good 3 star but miles off anything like a 4 star as claimed. Would we stay again? Not sure to be honest

    3
« Ok, parking very limited »

Arrived fairly early in the evening but people were already being told that the very limited parking was full. We managed to park not far away on the street, but some others were quite a distance away. The room was satisfactory for the price, but no bargain to be had (although it would be a bargain at the out of season prices). Cuanra Restaurant again was ok, but not memorable. Altogether a suitable stop overnight if you're catching the ferry.

    5
    « relaxing break »

this was our second visit this year and again we enjoyed after a hiccup when in room 22 we had water from the ceiling bathroom dripping but we were quickly moved without any fuss.Breakfast was plentiful ,did find the tables for 2 small for all, plates pots etc. staff very good will return again if in area.

« Home from Home in Oban »

Great views from bedroom. Lovely touch is the Iron Bru, Scottish Tablet and Tunnocks on the coffee tray. Really welcoming. The front desk were extremely helpful in arranging for us to have the same room when we returned several days later. The hotel is well located and a short walk into the centre of Oban gets you to the Seafood Shack at the harbour. Good coffee shops on the seafront and good quality traditional shop nearby. The hotel; has a fine restaurant with good service.

« Lovely Restaurant - Shame About the Food »

We found it difficult to locate the Best Western restaurant on a dark and rainy night because we did not know that it was embedded in the Queens Hotel, which was itself clearly identified by illuminated signs. Entry was through a large, welcoming and comfortable bar area, and we were led into the restaurant. This was clean and smart as you would expect from a Best Western hotel, but we were the only diners at 19:30, and this remained so until we left after the meal. We soon found out why. Service was friendly, helpful and efficient, but the food was diabolical. It was British Standard hotel fare, one grade up from prison food and two grades up from hospital food. It must take years of training to achieve carrots which have been boiled to death and yet are dry, rock hard and covered with white powdery calc. Couple this to ballistic-grade Brussels sprouts and an unrecognisable meaty abomination and we felt quite fortunate to survive.

    « Excellent 2 night stay »

Just returned home from staying at The Queens for 2 nights. I booked a single room & couldn't fault it in anyway at all. Everything spotless, friendly service, great breakfast & fabulous location. Having breakfast while looking out to the sea...can't be beaten. Would definitely stay again & highly recommend it ????

« cosy hotel but not central to oban centre »

Lovely king size bed, lovely clean bathroom - - good breakfast - friendly staff - limited parking but the receptionist did all he could to squeeze us in however if you wanted to leave early in the morning it could be a problem getting out. A good 15 minute walk to the main areas of Oban

« Bay Windows, get a Dram, Sit in the comfy chairs and just relax »

The Queens Hotel is situated in a long line Hotels on the Esplanade overlooking the Sound of Kerrera. With its twin pointed roof looking like bishop's hats it really stands out. The reception is welcoming and even though we called late from the train to reserve dinner there wasn't a problem. The bar is very cosy as is the lounge with chesterfield sofa's and comfy armchairs. They best seats are by the bay window with a great view so just sit and what the ships and weather change every few minutes. The carpet throughout is a green tartan and like the rest of the hotel is scrupulously clean. The dining area is quite large but not too imposing and the staff set out the tables for different sized groups, (one group was over 20 people which was good for us as we had to sit in a bay window). The food is amazing and I would recommend you try everything. There isn't a lift from the first floor but the staff will help to get your luggage to and from your room. Our room on the third floor had a bay view between the between the buildings and was a wee bit small but we don't live in hotel rooms. The bath has water jets, I prefer air bubbles but hey it's still whirl pool. There is a lot of pride in the Queens Hotel and it shows throughout

« Choose your room wisely »

So I spent two nights in the Queens Hotel, Frida and Saturday. Arrived at 5pm and found there was very limited parking, 10 cars at most, so had to try and find a space on the street, which ain't easy with so many hotels on this small stretch of promenade. Check in was easy enough. Room allocated was a single when company had booked a double. Now a couple of phone calls later and it was all sorted and I moved to a lovely double room on the top floor of the annex. However, had I been staying in the single I'd have been far from happy. Tiny room, tv on wall at right angle to small single bed so no way to watch in comfort, wardrobe that was no more than 12 in wide and a table crammed with yes kettle and hair drive but no space to actually sit and write at. One of the poorest single rooms I've encountered on my travels. On the other hand. The double I moved into was spacious, airy and bright. Extra large comfy bed and spa bath. A great room to spend a couple of nights in. Plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space if like me you like to get your clothes hung up. The bar was small and welcoming. Food a mixed bag. Steak pie, pieces of steak in a dishwater consistency gravy and soggy warn chips. On the Saturday delicious fish in a crisp batter with delightful hand cut chips as fresh from the flier than you could wish for. Breakfast is buffet style. Again mixed review. The first morning the batch cooked sausages had been overdone and where a dry unpalatable mouthful. The following morning everything was cooked to perfection. Who knows, maybe a different chef, timings correct ? As for the staff, could not have been more helpful during my stay and are a credit to themselves and the hotel. So a very mixed bag all in all.

    « Great,comfortable stay. »

Arrived here last Friday for a two night break. We were prepared to have to park on the street after reading reviews saying the car park is small. We were happy to do this and managed to get a space across from our sea view room. The hotel isn't huge, but has stunning views from the front and is spotlessly clean and cozy. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with all we needed. The bathroom again was very clean and modern, but the shower was the only small let down, hardly any pressure, but did the job. This was situated over a Jacuzzi bath which we didn't have time to use. Breakfast was excellent, plenty choice and cooked fresh. The staff are all professional and friendly so overall a great choice, just wish we'd been staying longer, but we'll be back without a doubt.

    « Decent Enough »

Stayed here on Sat 21.10.17 - The room was clean and tidy - Friendly hotel staff - Good Breakfast - Room was rather small - The shower just about got enough water out - Room was quite a trek to get to - Not much parking on site, so be prepared to park on the street opposite, It is free though - About a 10 minute walk into the centre of Oban, if that

    « A great little find »

The hotel was welcoming on our visit to Oban, even though it was dark & raining when we arrived. The price was right which included breakfast. The bar offered a good selection of beers on tap & a selection of wine from which to choose from. Dinner in the dining room was very good. The service was as equally good. Breakfast was also very good with a good selection of hot foods to choose from. We received a warm farewell on departure. Well situated in the township of Oban.

    « Enjoyable Stay »

Enjoyed my stay here. The location was good being near enough to the centre of Oban. My room was spacious, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Reception staff were very friendly but bar and breakfast staff not so welcoming. The food in the hotel was very good and plenty of choice at breakfast. Would stay here again when returning to Oban.

Comfortable room with well equipped bathroom. We enjoyed dinner in lounge both nights we stayed and the breakfasts were very good too. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we loved the dog behind reception!

    « Weekend break »

We have just returned home from a weekend break, having had two nights in the Best Western Queens Hotel. Unfortunately I have a bit of a mixed review. Fabian on reception was extremely welcoming as were all the staff we met during our stay ... apart from one. The night porter on duty on Saturday 16th October. We requested a bottle of wine to be told by the night porter (who incidentally was sat on the couch in the lounge and didn't even have the decency to stand up when we entered) to be told the hotel stopped serving alcohol at 11pm. My husband then said well could we request it as room servce .... NO. This porter then told us all the fridges had been emptied and alcohol locked in a cellar and he didn't have keys. We gave up and headed back to our room. An hour or so later my husband called for room service TWICE. BOTH TIMES OUR CALLS WENT UNANSWERED. I then went out the side door of the new building for a cigarette and low and behold the sight that greeted me was the night porter sound asleep on the settee. No wonder our calls weren't answered. So not really impressed with their night service at all! We were in room 44 on the 4th floor. Room was clean, bed was comfortable the only downfall was you could hear the lift going up and down, the Jacuzzi bath was amazing but the shower was dismal. At the set 38 degrees temperature it was extremely hot, the more you turned the dial for cold water the poorer the water pressure got. We are at the hotel on the Saturday evening. The fish and chips I highly recommend! Breakfast was nice, a varied menu to chose from. All in our stay was pleasant. But not as pleasant that I'd be fighting queues to return. Thank you to the staff that actually done what they're paid to do. It's a shame one of your team members let you all down

« Comfortable but in need of a refurb »

We were catching an early ferry to Mull and needed a stop-over. The Best Western Queens Hotel was one of many possible choices. It was a five minute drive from the ferry terminal, was four-star and advertised parking. So, we pushed the button. The hotel was relatively easy to find but the car park was full. However, on street parking was free. The room was clean, the king-sized bed comfortable and we had a sea view, just. However, the bar - with green tartan carpet and dated furniture - and restaurant area lacked atmosphere so we went into town for something to eat, an easy 15-minute walk. On return, I had a bath. The water was piping hot and it filled quickly. The bath itself was one of the most comfortable I've ever used. We slept well, apart from the noise from the people above who arrived back late. Need for greater soundproofing here. However, the £5 extra breakfast was superb value. The buffet was sizable and the sausages ? possibly soured from a local butcher because of their taste ? were superb as was the black pudding. My kipper was one of the best I've eaten in a hotel. In all, we enjoyed our stay and complement the staff who were most helpful but a wee investment would assist here.

« Great view of the sea »

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in room 5 which is a large sea view on the front. Visiting with friends who lived locally so we only had breakfast which was good. Service was reasonable and the hotel was clean. It has new carpets in all the main areas. Parking can be troublesome but the road has free on street parking. The door at the bottom of the stairs bangs which can be felt in the room. However these are minor issues. Overall a pleasant and functional hotel with friendly staff.

    « Underwhelmed »

Thought we were getting a good deal, as booked on a reputable site. Booked for 2 nights Saturday and Sunday, decided that we could travel on Friday, on personally phoning the hotel I was informed that they only had twin rooms. Later went on their site and seen they had rooms of all standards. On arrival met by a pleasant member of staff, informed that we could get help to carry our bags to our room, being of a youngish model could still carry our own bags. I would not recommend the hotel to disabled people as they have no special facilities for them. Our room was situated at rear of hotel, we had a partial few of the sea, the bed was an extra large double and very comfortable, the bathroom was of normal standard, all though did have a jacuzzi bath. Went downstair as wanting a refreshment, was informed the bar didn't open until 5.30, I think the member of staff on reception could have left the reception and give us a refreshment. We were informed that a bar down the esplanade was opened, I thought a chance of more revenue was missed here. Had a meal in the hotel could not fault this, the menu had enough choices to satisfy our needs and the choices of wine sufficient. A comfortable sleep, all though earlier in the night could hear muffled conversations from adjoining rooms. Breakfast wasn't anything to be too happy about, I ordered porridge and had to send it back as it was cold, the choices of the cooked breakfast was all from a hot plate, ample cereals and a continental breakfast was on offer. In all not impressed, understand the demand for accommodation in Oban is in high demand, but for the price felt we didn't get value for money.

    « Wonderful View! »

We have stayed here on both our family vacations to Scotland. The seaside view is fantastic. The location is a 10 minute walk away from pubs, restaurants and docks. The rooms are modern. The restaurant and bar are comfortable with excellent food and excellent service. The front desk is very helpful. Oban is a very picturesque town and the Best Western certainly helped make our stay memorable.

    « A pleasant stay. »

Pleasant staff, room comfortable and breakfast good. A tidy walk from the ferry, but we could have had a taxi. The water pressure was good, but the water pump was noisy when water drawn in surrounding rooms.

    « 2 night stay »

Had 2 nights in Oban which was delightful. The Queens hotel is right on the front with an easy walk to the centre. Think the hotel has recently had a refurb as it was all very clean and smart. Our room was a good size and adequate. My only complaint was that the tea and coffee facilities were on the floor pushed under the bedside cabinet. Not easy to get to first thing in the morning!! Had one evening meal in the hotel which was good and breakfast was also fine. You can park at the hotel if you are early enough to find a space, not very big. The staff here were all friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our visit here and will certainly go again.

    « Very Pleasant Stay »

The Queens Hotel is situated just out of the main town but not too far away to be able to enjoy a very pleasant walk into the centre. We were in the modern block of bedrooms at the back of the main hotel. Getting to the second floor was a bit of a trek especially with our cases, but there was a lift from the first to our bedroom on the second floor. The room itself was rather small with a massive king size bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom was extremely clean, good facilities and good quality soaps, shampoos, body cream and shower gel. Plentiful towels changed daily. As mentioned by another contributor, there was a good Jacuzzi bath, a very nice bonus. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, restaurant staff efficient and pleasant. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is extremely clean, no dust to be found. Cleaners do an excellent job. So, was there a downside? Well, it was a bit noisy at times, walls seemed a little thin and the people on the floor above were a bit heavy footed. However, you do experience some noise in a hotel, it is to be expected. The car park can be a bit of a problem when the hotel is busy as it is not very big for the size of the hotel. However, there is plenty of parking on the promenade just outside the hotel.

    « Lovely, quaint hotel »

Loved my time in Oban and really enjoyed this hotel. I loved that it was right on the water front and my room had a beautiful view of the water. Room was nice and clean. The bath tub was great! It had jets and lights. I had a drink at the bar and it was a really nice setting. Breakfast was also very nice; buffet for 5 pound. I would definitely recommend!

« Comfortable Room with Added Extra. »

Booked and stayed in a Single Room, and surprised to find a Jacuzzi Bath in the Room too! Limited Parking on site but managed to find a space, but there is parking on the road out to the front. Had a 2 course Dinner, and both Starter and Main was very tasty.

    « A Culinary Gem »

There is more to this hotel than meets the eye with a modern bedroom block behind the period front. Rooms are comfortable but compact. The lounge/bar is spacious. The staff are friendly and helpful. The kitchen however is outstanding, really good sea food with generous portions. well worth a visit and a convenient stopping place for the ferries.

    5
    « Very friendly staff »

The staff really made our stay here very enjoyable. The room was clean and all amenities were to a good standard. The breakfast was particularly good. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would be more than happy to stay here again.

    « Very disappointing »

This hotel was the low point of a trip down the west coast of scotland. Although a 'superior' room was booked it faced towards the back of the hotel onto a yard. It would have been nice to be offered a move to the front of the hotel to rooms (which had a viewing the sea) despite these rooms being empty on the second night of our stay, but nobody seemed to be concerned about providing a good service for guests. We were kept awake by staff periodically standing out in the yard below our window in the evening talking and smoking till 11.30pm. The double glazing let both the noise and smoke into our room. Noise from a motor or machine also started up below our window for a couple of hours each evening. The noise from staff started again at 6.15am, this time accompanied by the noise of wheelie bins being dragged around. The breakfast service was embarrassing. At 9.31am an American couple sitting next to us asked for an item off the cooked to order menu and were told that the kitchen had closed at 9.30. They had been seated prior to 9.30 which was the advertised breakfast end. Our own order was taken down wrongly on both mornings. Staff had varying levels of English. Parking at the hotel was chaotic with cars in the small car park blocked in by other cars and laundry and delivery vans. We had to park a half mile away and carry suitcases. There was no lift as far as I could see and the suitcases had to be carried upstairs. This felt like a hotel which doesn't have to try too hard due to the overwhelming demand for accommodation in Oban and where nobody seemed to be striving to provide good service. For the same money (£140 per night) we received far superior service in every other place we stayed in on our trip.

    « Underwhelmed »

We thought that on this occasion we'd book above average accommodation as a treat. We were unable to park at the hotel which has very limited space, but were lucky enough to find an overnight parking slot just opposite. We were welcomed by the Receptionist who gave us the welcome letter and the holder with the room key. He said that we were in the Queen Mary Suite on the top floor and that if we wished, he'd have our bags carried up for us. Being self-supporting by nature, we said we'd carry our own bags. By the time we climbed the 4 flights of stairs with 41 steps in all, we realized that we should have welcomed the offer of assistance with the bags. Our grey hair reflects our age. Perhaps it would be better for the Receptionist to have said, ?Your suite is on the top floor, I'll have your bags carried-up.? Although stylish, the low backed Chesterfields had little back support for the upper body and were uncomfortable after a while. One of the bedroom windows was open when we arrived. We could not close it because the hinges were damaged although the receptionist came to assist quite quickly. She closed the window using some force and said the hotel preferred that guests did not open the windows which surprised us. Later we checked and found that the window mechanism needed servicing and that spraying with WD40 or similar would go some way to resolving this problem. Having closed the window, the woman from reception asked if we were likely to close the bay window curtains. We said our thoughts had not got that far. She said that she had recently noticed that they had become frayed and that she would be repairing them. We later looked at them closely and saw that they were badly damaged by the UV coming through the south facing window. They should have been repaired a long time since. There was a fridge in each room but they were completely empty with the complimentary drinks lying out in the sunshine. There was no ice maker in the suite and no ice was offered. Surely this should be an inclusive item for a suite costing so much. We were very uncomfortable stepping over the high-sided bath for fear of slipping and falling, especially as there were no handholds. We had to ask for flannels. The bedding was crisp and white but the duvet was tightly tucked in under the mattress which needed both of us to lift it to free the bottom edge. There was no bedside switch to one of the bedside lights which had to be operated from the plug way down behind the bedside cabinet. Breakfast. We went downstairs at 9.10 am and enjoyed a lovely cooked breakfast. A few minutes after 9.30 we asked a waitress if we could have a croissant. We were told a little abruptly 'no - is finished'. Everything had been cleared away. There still a few other diners in the room then, so we think it would have been preferable for one of the waiting staff to announce that they were about to start clearing-up, should anyone wish to have anything further. Apart from the receptionist nobody smiled, nobody asked how our room was, we had to ask a member of staff to take our breakfast order. The service seemed perfunctory. Maybe it's coming to the end of a long tiring season. When we left we were aked how we enjoyed our stay. We said we felt we did not get value for our money and were disappointed over the shortcomings. The retort was that Oban is expensive. Our comment was about value, not cost and we have been going to Oban for about 20 yrs so not unaware of pricing locally. So, all things considered, our stay at the Best Western was frustrating, uncomfortable, disappointing and certainly not worth £230 for the night. We hope you find our comments helpful and will benefit your future guests.

« Quality hotel but expensive »

Stayed 2 nights over a weekend. Very pleasant hotel with friendly staff and a good restaurant. Hotel Parking is very limited and we had to resort to roadside parking which was also difficult to come by on the weekend we were there. Majority of rooms are in the new block at the rear of the hotel and you need to be on the 4th floor to have any view of the sea. Double rooms are a little on the small side especially with the large double bed. The tea tray with built in kettle was most annoying as you had to put the whole thing on the floor in order to reach an electrical socket to plug it in! Great location on the sea front and within easy walking distance of town centre. High price is probably due to the current popularity of Oban on the overseas tourist trail and price is the only aspect which would put us off staying here again. Otherwise very good hotel in every aspect.

« AVOID - WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER! »

We have stayed here for one night only and it turned out to be the worst hotel experience ever: The rooms are so tiny that in other hotels you would regard this as a bathroom max - and they manage to squeeze 2! beds in there. The bathroom has this mouldy odour - the ventilation in the bathroom is NON-EXISTANT: there is a built in fan that barely works - no wonder the steam and moist gets stuck there. Extremely tiny bathroom - not enough space to even change or get your hair done. The overall design is very outdated - I felt like in the 80s, the halls and the rooms are generally very tired. The other thing is the noise insulation - it is impossible to get a good night sleep there because you can hear everything: somebody accidentally dropping a hairdryer or closing a bathroom door. The worst of all was the bed: The mattress standard as I would expect in a cheap hostel - bounces on every turn. The bedlinen was STINKY. Honestly the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced in a hotel. All this comes at a £140 per night price. As a lot of people mentioned before me, this is NOT a 4 star hotel!

We really enjoyed our stay in Auburn at the Queen's. Nice room good shower clean. staff was very helpful nice bar, common Lounge area great breakfast. Be forewarned that although there is a lift there is a long Stairway to get to the lift however they did assist with luggage

« Everything was great except for the view »

I booked here as I was on business nearby, the receptionist was excellent in dealing with an extremely rude foreigner in front of me. My single room was lovely and my Haddock and chips for tea was fabulous and the bar staff were great but the view from my room was terrible. I was staring and a huge stone wall overrun by brambles at the back of the hotel, ok its a great security feature but why put all the single rooms at the back? If I could have seen daylight out of my window it would be a 5 star all day long.

    2
« Nice people but definitely lacking »

Good things about the hotel were the location as it's not too far from town and the shower as the water pressure was good and was very hot. Poor things about the hotel were the alarms going off at 7 in the morning, the lack of so called ample parking, and the hidden fees that surprised me upon checkout. I would advise to look somewhere else and book early as there aren't many hotels in oban.

    « Very impressed »

The hotel is spotlessly clean everywhere. The food is absolutely delicious and impressive. Service was a little slow at dinner but it was extremely busy and an apology was given when the food was served and believe me, it was worth the wait.I will be returning as soon as I can get agreement with the management to move there from another nearby hotel who can learn a lot from a not to distant neighbour. Highly recommend this establishment. Well done

« overpriced but great view from some rooms. »

just stayed one night. we were lucky enough to be high up an at the right end of the hotel to get a great view over oban bay- don't think other rooms will be so lucky. Bit of a trek to get to lift- including a flight of stairs. No offer of help with luggage which is poor show really. Rooms looks like it has been recently decorated. Clean and functional but not worth £165 by any stretch of the imagination. Bathroom clean but cheap wallboards, tatty pull cord on the mirror light bring the quality right down. Breakfast buffet style with option to order other hot food- was fine- no more than that. Had to queue at the really untidy reception to try to check out as no one was there- just left our key cards on the counter. Not really our cup of tea. clearly relies on great location and great views from some rooms- fine for one night .

    « Poor sleep. »

Hi, just stayed at the queens hotel Oban, firstly the staff are friendly and professional and the breakfast was excellent. Our room was clean if a little small and had everything we needed ,don't be fooled by photos of tablet and Iron bru as this is not supplied in every room obviously. The bathroom was also a little cramped but was clean, the jacuzzi bath did not seam to work properly and some of the silicone round the bath is in need of replacing as water is getting down the back of the bath. We were in room 25 and the view is nonexistent but the main problem with this room is the noise which was incredible due to squeaking floors, people clumping about, and somebody snoring in the room above. The hotel also needs to look into why a wheelie bin is being dragged around ar 10.45pm underneath room 25 window . Basically it is a good hotel let down by avoidable noise.p.s. The bed was very comfortable.

    « Great Ambiance »

We stayed only one night at this hotel but we loved the ambiance: it was exactly what we were expecting. Located on a typical Scottish mansion on the seaside, it offers the comfort and the service travellers need while exploring Scotland. We stayed at room no 45. We had a lovely partial view of Oban bay. The room was basic, yet comfortable. There was no minibar but we did not need it anyway as we stayed only 1 night. The wi-fi was not functioning properly in the room but it was strong in the lobby. The breakfast was also basic but satisfactory, served in a very cozy room. I really wish we had stayed longer here, both the town and the hotel were really "Scottish".

    4
« If you can, get the top floor suite »

We were lucky enough to be given the Queen Victoria Suite which is on the top floor of the hotel, it has 3 rooms being a big lounge overlooking the harbour, a big bedroom and bathroom. Not sure what the other rooms are like, but it was marvellous to have the views and space.

    4
    « Wonderful breakfast buffet »

Great location, wonderful dinner and breakfast with very friendly reception staff. Unfortunately, the two days we stayed in Oban were the only two days of our trip that it rained the whole time. Even with the weather not being stellar (but expected for a Scotland trip) the staff did an amazing job of bringing the Scottish cheer.

    5
« What a view! And great local seafood! »

This hotel sits at the northern end of the harbour and has splendid views from the seafront rooms. We had Room 3 which is spacious and well furnished. There are two Chesterfield armchairs from which to view activities in and out of the harbour while enjoying early morning tea or a wee dram in the evening. The bed was very comfortable, and the absence of through traffic makes for a very quiet night. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves fresh seafood from the waters around Oban. If you enjoy scallops, langoustines, and/or lobster, this is the place for you. The only gripe is that the hotel car park is somewhat small and ight.

    4
    « In parts a 4 star! »

This hotel is in a good location overlooking the bay and A short seafront walk into Oban centre. The main building has character and the lounge and dining area are good. Service was excellent as was the food we had which included breakfast and a dinner. Beware that the seafood player is quite a lot of seafood in shells so is a bit of work to get through! The main let down is that most of the rooms are located in an annex at the rear that is squeezed in with little or no view from the windows. We were lucky in that we had a view through the two main buildings into the bay. The rooms were small and uninspiring. For £150 per night I expected better.

    « Charming stopover »

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It is a nicely refurbished old building on the Esplanade, with tartan themed carpets throughout. Our room was large and comfortable with a spotless modern bathroom. The hotel has an elegant restaurant and a cosy bar. You can eat in either of them. We had both breakfast and dinner there and found tasty choices and a reasonable wine list. Service was courteous and efficient. Like many old hotels, there is no lift and plenty of stairs, so it could be challenging for anyone with a mobility problem. There are a few precious parking spots within the grounds and we managed to get one and not move the car throughout our stay. Otherwise you need to park on the Esplanade. All in all, a very enjoyable 24-hour stay in this small town.

    « Wedding Group »

Wanted to say a big thanks to staff from the Queen's Hotel in Oban. We had arranged for our wedding guests to stay in this hotel, where we were made very welcome. Staff made every effort to get our rooms ready early so that we could make the registry office in time. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly, making us feel very comfortable and valued. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the bar provided a nice area for us and our guests to raise a toast. Thanks.

« Comfortable one night stay. »

A warning-unless you pay big bucks you won't get the rooms in the part of the building fronting the Esplanade. And you need to climb stairs to get to the part of the hotel that has an elevator. Not a problem for us, but might be for some. The parking lot is tiny and crowded, but the parking on the Esplanade is free. We got there early and didn't move the car until we checked out the next morning. Which, in the rain, may limit your options for dining. That said, our room was comfortable and clean. We were not able to check in until 3pm, and arrived earlier than that, so walked into town and did the distillery tour. I wouldn't have minded having more time in the town, or at least more time to walk around. There does seem to be a lot to do in Oban, other than the distillery tour. But, per my husband's request, that was why we were there. After the tour we went down to the pub for a pint. The pub itself is rather small, but there is an adjacent lounge where you can sit and sip as well. We dined in the pub-I had a good soup, the salmon/potatoes/asparagus/béarnaise sauce, and my husband had the langustinos to start (and struggled with them, since no nutcracker was provided) and a steak pie. Breakfast the next morning was buffet style, and ample and delicious.

    « Superb Stay »

We had a superb 3 day stay in eRly August in the QM suite. the view from the. Room made up for no lift. Great views of the bay lovely clean rooms and lovely jacuzzi bath, although I didn't use jacuzzi. We had great weather whilst there, lovely day trip to Colonsay and the 2 of the most beautiful sunsets over Oban bay. Reception staf. We're particularly helpful to us and also breakfast and dinner staff. My husband enjoyed his kippers. We will visit you agsin

    « A Terrific Place to Stay »

We started our Scotland journey here and we were thrilled. Lovely, old world charm, a great pub and restaurant, good-sized rooms, welcoming lobby with seating overlooking the water and a wonderful, helpful staff. We particularly liked the food - hearty Scottish breakfasts and delectable dinners. I had my first taste of cullen skink and fell in love! If they had more parking, this place would be heaven!

    « Ok »

Located a 15 minute walk from the town centre overlooking the water it seemed ok when we arrived. However, our room was up a flight of stairs, along a corridor, up a lift and on the backside of the hotel. The room was pretty drab and in need of modernising, although comfortable enough. Breakfast was also ok, after queueing to get in. All round, an ok hotel but nothing special about it.

    « Great View! »

The hotel is located on the street facing the loch. Fantastic views looking into town and across the loch although it can be a bit windy. Like many British hotels there are lots of steps and doors along the hallway to your room. The parking lot was small and we had to find an alternate site two blocks away. The staff was quite helpful.

« Small rooms and hard to park. »

Small hotel without elevator and plenty of stairs with several old and new buildings all connected by stairs and aisles. Few rooms have an amazing views over the sea. Awesome sunset on that rooms (5 rooms only looks to the sea). Shower is quite bad with really few few few water pressure. Try to get another hotel.

    « OUTSTANDING »

The hotel was clean and inviting. We had a decent view of Oban harbour. The hotel staff was friendly and gave numerous ideas and suggestions. The hotel was an easy 10-15 minute walk to the ferries and shops. Parking was a little cramped but there is free parking on the street.

« Nice place, great location »

Comfortable place to stay, reasonably priced. Short walk to everything in Oban. Breakfast had decent buffet of hot and cold choices. Staff was courteous and friendly. Overall good value and would definitely stay there again.

« Great location, half mile to city center, walking along the esplanade »

The hotel is a bit of a maze. Rooms added on are toward the back, quiet, but no view of the sea. No elevator to first floor rooms, but staff is ready to help with luggage. The room was pleasant and comfortable. Bathroom small, but up to date. Even has jacuzzi tub. I would advise the hotel to install grab bars. Tub sides are tall and tub can be slippery. Nice bar and the restaurant is very good. Hats off to the friendly staff.

« Great location on the promenade »

Great location on the promenade with fantastic views over to Mull. Imposing reception rooms and good restaurant but if staying for a few days I recommend you book a room with a sea view in the front and original part of the hotel. The majority of the rooms are in a separate building at the rear which is starting to look dated. However access is easy and there is a lift. The rooms in the rear annexe have all the facilities and are clean and a reasonable size but are dated and lack character.

    « Comfortable and Quiet »

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting Oban. The rooms were clean, spacious (compared to some very tiny rooms we have stayed in in Scotland!), and the bathroom had a very nice shower with a jacuzzi tub. The hotel is just on the edge of Oban, which we would recommend based on the fact that it is quieter, easy to get to by driving, and outside of the busier downtown. You are just a quick walk to fantastic restaurants and other attractions in the town (approx. 5-10 minute walk). The included breakfast has lots of options and was very good. We would stay here again!

    « Ocean front »

The Queens Hotel is actually two buildings connected by a passageway. It was a few steps up and down a hallway to the elevator but even with luggage, not too bad. The front office staff were very helpful with restaurant and travel suggestions. When we got there the parking lot was full and we parked on the street about a block away, but again, it was not a problem.

« Great location. Nothing special. »

The Queen's Hotel offers a great location along the promenade in Oban. It's a five minute walk along the seafront to downtown. Staff are friendly, but it would have been nice if they would have offered help with luggage considering there is no lift to the first floor (there is a lift on the 1st floor and above). Rooms are good size, but beds are tiny and not very comfortable. My room had peeling walls and the bedside lamp is a joke. The light is so dull it couldn't light up anything. Breakfast was good and service was friendly. It could all have been much better with minimal extra touches.

    « Excellent Accomodations »

We had the privilege of staying at the Best Western, The Queens Hotel after another local hotel overbooked, and we could not get in for the night. We were so pleased to be placed in the care of The Oueens Hotel and the staff. We had a lovely meal, a beautiful view from our room, and the hospitality was a breath of fresh air. We highly recommend them if you are staying in Oban.

« Two very comfortable stays! »

A nicely set out Hotel overlooking the harbour at Oban. I stayed here on a Friday night and then the week following, the Saturday night. The two rooms I had were small but very well kitted out and very comfortable. The evening meals were excellent and beautifully presented and had plenty of flavour. The first night I had Haggis balls for a starter, this was followed by a gorgeous blade of beef which just fell apart - soooo tender! This was followed up with some traditional cloutie dumpling slices and some ice cream. The second night I had smoked salmon with a saffron mayonnaise - excellent! Following this, I had a fantastic chicken breast with haggis and a fried potato cake with a very nice sauce based on the local Oban whisky. This was followed by sticky toffee pudding and ice cream - lovely! They have a decent range of wines too with plenty to choose from. The breakfast buffet was excellent too! I thoroughly recommend this hotel for staying in Oban. With just a short walk around the harbourside to get to the railway station or ferry terminal (an even shorter walk gets you to the Oban whisky distillery at the heart of the town too - good tours!). The only thing to note is the lack of a lift from the ground floor - however they can't help this as its a listed building, and there is not a lot they could do about this. Please don't judge this against them as it truly is an excellent hotel!

« Typical Best Western - Generic, tired and bland »

No parking. No style. No lift. Very tired décor. No views. Cramped Interior bathroom with no working extractor or window. Having paid our tour operator extra for premium accommodation, this is one we will be complaining about. The room was no better than any other cheap chain hotel - the décor was bland and generic, the bathroom was dreadful, and we were stuck at the back in what was clearly an addition from the 70's to the original hotel. It might have been modern in 1970, but I don't think it's been touched since. Breakfast was buffet style and you had to get in when it first opened or miss out due to the scramble by people desperate to leave early to catch the ferry. Overall - Not recommended.

    « Great little hotel »

We stayed at the Queens Hotel as part of our tour of Scotland with friends from America. The hotel is situated in a lovely position overlooking the bay, about 10 minutes walk from Oban town centre. It's a lovely walk into town along the bay with ferries, yachts and even the occasional small cruise liner sailing in the bay. Parking is limited in the hotel car park, however not a problem as there is free parking all along the esplanade directly outside the hotel. The hotel consists of an older building at the front ( formerly a bishops residence I believe) and a modern extension to the rear. Cannot comment on the rooms in the extension as we booked a superior double with views over the bay. We were in room 3 and it was lovely. The staff were polite, cheery and very helpful. We decided to dine in the hotel restaurant on both nights of our stay and were very pleased with the excellent choice, fresh Oban seafood, traditional Scottish meals such as haggis, Cullen skink, clootie dumplings and favourites such as steak pie. All very well prepared and reasonably priced. The restaurant staff were excellent, couldn't do enough to please. Will definitely stay again on our next tour of Scotland. Tip .... Book a bay view room ... You will just want to sit in the comfy armchairs with a cuppa and watch the world go by.

« Clean, Comfortable Room & Terrific Views From The Dining Room »

I found the standard of cleanliness throughout this hotel very good and the décor and furnishings in my room were of a high quality. I was staying in Room 48, a single room. The bed was very comfortable, but space was limited. The bathroom was clean and modern. I enjoyed the jacuzzi function in the bath. The plug in the sink allowed the water to drain away though, which was quite exasperating. The room was in the main part of the hotel which is a fairly modern block behind the older, more traditional looking building at the front with the bay windows. My view overlooked a private dwelling behind the hotel. The reception staff were very friendly, although there was some difficulty in making myself understood to the domestic staff for whom English was not their first language. The room was cleaned and tidied beautifully every day and the tea, coffee, cocoa and biscuits replenished too. Car parking was limited on site so I used the promenade outside which was free of charge fortunately. The location was really attractive, with views of Oban Harbour and the Sound of Kerrera. The town centre was a good 15 minute walk, but along flat terrain. My main gripe about the hotel room was the apparent lack of sound-proofing. It was possible to hear the lift being used outside, doors slamming in the corridor, and the television from an adjacent room. I know some hotels are able to actually restrict the volume on TV sets at certain times. Maybe Best Western could look into this? In the bathroom I was able to hear activity in the neighbouring room's bathroom too, especially water rushing through the pipework. And it was a little disconcerting to notice that there was an air vent in the wall that seemed to connect with the room on the other side (light shone through it!). Air conditioning would have been welcome considering the humidity at the time and the retainer on the window prevented it from being opened more than a few inches. Overall I felt the price paid was fairly good value for money. The breakfasts were excellent and I would certainly consider staying at The Queens in Oban again. I would just hope that next time the room was not so noisy!

« Didn't stay here but was welcomed for a good dinner »

Visited the restaurant on the first night as it was close to where we were staying. We were made very welcome and had a great meal and drinks. The hotel looked good, the only reason we didn't stay was lack of parking.

    3
« It was just OK, a bit far out of town, and the back rooms are low quality »

First the waterfront location is nice, but a bit of a walk if the weather is poor from town. The staff was just Ok, it felt like a chain hotel. The major problem is the photo shows a quaint old hotel, but what you don't see is the big box of rooms added at the back of the property, where we stayed. These ware just cheap, plain and simple, noisy, poor plumbing, poor furnishings etc. Also not many good view rooms, the ones in the back get small glimpses of the water.

    3
    « Passing Through »

As you enter Oban, turn right and before you get to the end of the Esplanade you'll find the Queens Hotel. I reckon that most Best Westerns, being privately owned, try to make you hospitable if you are passing through. Parking on what had once been the front gardens seemed somewhat chaotic, but there was plenty of free parking on the road outside so no problem.Oban being Oban, in the summer months there are lots of visitors and the hotel was full. This made the reception job of the friendly manager quite frenetic as he multi-tasked us in three at a time, including unusually, taking full payment up front. Perhaps he had noticed the fast motorbikes of some guests ?! Negotiating various corridors and stairway we found our 'superior' room. It was spacious enough, if a little overcrowded with furniture and had nice big windows which, as we had been warned, did not have much outlook. This was a pity as the hotel has lovely clear views across the bay with ferries and yachts coming and going. Fortunately we could see the view from the dining room which, with a bar and lounge now occupies a large part of the ground floor of the original building. I guess there is an extension to the rear with many more rooms. Dinner turned out to be a pleasant experience with my wife and I sharing a nice lobster washed down with a Chilean Sauvignon, all served by pleasant young ladies with foreign accents. I don't know how the tourist industry in Scotland would manage without the foreign student on a gap year, over here to improve their English and see the country. They are most hard working and very welcome. After a generous buffet breakfast, the following morning we and everyone else were on the road again. As a hotel for when "passing through" The Queens is just what you need, but if staying a few days try to get a room at the front for the view.

« Very nice hotel, right on the waterfront in Oban »

This is a unique hotline in that it is a combination of older and new, but it is right on the water and very conformable. Nice large beds and quiet rooms, ours faced the water, so even a nice view (when it didn't rain!). Great and helpful staff. The one small glitch - internet a bit twitchy in that it would work fine and then drop - on any of my devices. Not really an issue, just an annoyance. Good value here.

    4
    « Noisy room »

The hotel is up Corran Esplanade, around 15 minutes from the train station. The single room is small with a single bed, desk, and small closet. The bed is comfortable and the room is clean. The bathroom has a jetted bathtub, and liquid and bar soap are provided. A hair dryer is in the room. Breakfast is plentiful with the usual Scottish breakfast items (eggs, bacon, sausage, potato, tomato, beans, mushrooms, haggis), breads, cereals, and fruit. My biggest complaint is that I could hear conversations in all the neighboring rooms. One night a television was blasting and people shouting to be heard above the sound possibly from above my room, so it was apparent that there is no sound insulation.

    « not that good »

The location is good, 10-15 min walking to the center and oban distillery. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the window opened to a poorly treated roof and we could hear other guests moving around their rooms. Parking is a nightmare because there are really few spots in relation to the number of rooms. You can park on the street, but again, it is not easy. We had to drop the bags at the hotel and drive back and forth on the street waiting for a car to leave. Our room was on the second floor, but there was no lift. Lugging our bags up the stairs was not nice. The staff is not rude but not that friendly either.

    3
    « Disappointing for a Princess »

The hotel is well located but parking is really a nightmare as there are not sufficient spots and parking in the street is very difficult. Basically, you need to drop your bags off and go off and find a place for your car. Our room was also at the rear (we'd paid extra for a nicer room) and looked over a roof, so was less than scenic. Equally, there is no lift, so you have to lug your bags up stairs. There are some good things in that the water is very hot and plenty of food for breakfast. There was also a welcome basket of fruit and sweets. Staff at front are reasonable but not knowledgable about things to do. Fine for one night, fine but don't linger longer.

    5
« Beautiful view and walking distance to downtown »

The view from the hotel is stunning at night and in the morning. You're within a 10-15 minute walk to downtown and the OBAN distillery. Parking is limited so make sure you get there within a decent time and expect it to be tight. Room was clean and perfect for a nights stay. Breakfast was excellent and included too. They had cereals, fruit and the regular bacon, eggs, potato scones as well.

    2
    « Not impressed »

The positives : very good breakfast and a good location Negatives : overbooked. A terrible start, not made welcome at all. The window was broken. I eventually worked out how to close the window. Very expensive for a hotel that is quite basic. No menu in the rooms, so didn't eat dinner. Very disappointing for the price.

« Enjoy the suite if you can! »

In the states, Best Western is not usually associated with top quality hotels. That has not been our experience in the U.K. or Europe. This hotel, especially the Queen Mary suite, allowed us to spread out after earlier, much smaller accommodations. The bed was so comfortable and a pillow menu I did not notice until our second night! The front room had a lovely bay window view of the harbor. Watching the ferries come and go with some white wine, cheese and crackers we found in town was one of our favorite afternoons! The bathroom has a jacuzzi tub that although our checking key holder explained the fuse location, we were unable to locate. The shower is in the jacuzzi tub with two pulling curtains. There are warnings to be heeded about the "extremely hot water" and the toiletries are top notch! We loved the location - down a short walk from town center. Many other hotels we had looked at were in the noisy section of town and we enjoyed the harbor walk to dinners each night. Also, note . . . there are no elevators. Not a problem for us but may be for some. The breakfast was delicious. Quick service, wide selection including scrambled eggs and hit and cold buffet. There is also food made to order. Car park fills up early but parking on the street is available. Definitely would recommend!

    « First Class Dinner »

A great dinner on 2 nights. The staff were friendly with first class service. i cant fault the hotel or their facilities. I was staying in another hotel but have no.problem advicing people to eat there or stay.

    3
« Pleasand Hotel on the seafront! »

A very pleasant hotel on the seafront of Oban and a short walk into town. This hotel is welcoming in small reception area and then it's a hike around it! If you have luggage it's up stairs along corridors and then you find a lift on the first floor of a new block towards the rear of the front building. So be prepared and if you have trouble with stairs and carrying your luggage I would advise that you find somewhere else to stay. The room once you get there is functional and clean but not very big, and being there as a single person it's not a problem, but may be difficult if more than one! The staff are very pleasant and I had dinner in the dining room which was well presented and very nice. Good choices on the menu too. If you don't wish to eat there it's about a 10-15 minute walk into town where there are other restaurants and cafes and that's great when it's a dry day, but I don't think I want to do it with wind and rain on the seafront. Parking in the courtyard is a small area but you can park on the main road outside. Overall a decent hotel and some good facilities, but importantly it's clean and friendly as it's not a cheap hotel!

    2
« Small rooms with thin walls »

The suites and rooms in the main building seem nice. However if you are in any of the remaining rooms in the annex building (most of the hotel) be prepared for thin walls and floors. You can hear footsteps, voices as well as mechanical units. At this prices you would expect much better quality rooms.

    4
    « Great location »

This hotel is all about location. The walk into "town" is gorgeous and the views can't be beat. For the price, I wish the internet service would have been better and breakfast would have been included (it was an additional charge). The staff was extremely polite and friendly. The rooms are average (partial water view was fantastic), but clean! Great water temperature and pressure which was nice after a long windy day on the water. Train/ferry station are within walking distance, however I wouldn't try it with luggage.

    5
« great htel on sea front »

this hotel is spotless the staff cannot do enough for you food was very good would recommend this place to anybody. only one draw back with it not suitable for disabled people with no bedrooms on ground floor and no lifts to upper floors

« Nice View. Hotel was Decent. Do Not Expect a typical large Best Western. »

We stayed here 05/16/17. I can't remember the room number. Third floor, end of hall. Note, if you have mobility issues, based on room availability, you may not be able stay here. This is not a problem for us, just noting this for those who may have mobility issues. We had to carry our luggage up stairs, wheel down halls through multiple doors to get to the elevator to get up to our room. Pros: The room was clean. The bathroom was nice. The staff was pleasant. Outstanding location on the Esplanade. Close to everything you want to do in Oban including Dunollie Castle (five minute walk), shopping, dinning and boat tours to the islands. Despite the hotel having terrible parking, there is plenty of free parking on the street outside the hotel. The view is fabulous! The hotel has a restaurant but you do need reservations and they only serve a traditional Scottish menu (no vegetarian options). Cons: The room is not air conditioned and the window tilts open about 3-4 inches. Their guest book states that they have fans and to call the front desk to ask for one. I did. The person at the front desk was shocked at my request and said, "I don't think we have fans. I'll check. If we do, someone will bring one." We went to bed and were falling asleep and there was a knock on the door. Someone found a fan. Problem was it was broken. The fan blades jammed and clicked. I fixed the fan. The room was stuffy. As I have stated in some of my other reviews of hotels during this trip, the idea that you can just keep a window open regardless of noise and light control and get a good night of sleep is ludicrous. The fan helped with noise control and air circulation but did nothing to cool the room. This hotel should make it very obvious that they don't have a/c since most people who stay in Best Western hotels will assume this is the case. We are average size, athletic and fit people. We are not obese and constantly hot. We are not sweaty. However, when it comes to sleeping, after a day of walking, hiking and exploring, we want to shower, and sleep in a dark, cool, and quiet room. That is not possible in this hotel unless you stay there during cold months. Wifi was free and decent, but not good. It was slow and clunky but much better than our experiences in hotels in Aberdeen and Inverness. All in all, we love the location of the hotel and the room was good so we recommend this hotel if you don't care about room temperature.

    5
    « Short But Sweet »

The hotel has lovely views from the Corran Esplanade over the water to the islands from Oban. The bedroom was comfortable and the bathroom had a jacussy bath and shower. The restaurant was comfortable and the waitress was very helpful and attentive to all customers in the restaurant. the food was very good at Dinner as well as breakfast. The hotel is a nice 5 minute stroll to the town centre and also ferry leave from Oban to the outlying Scottish islands like Skyr and Barra and Uist.

    3
    « Pleasant stay »

We stayed for one night here.Smallish room and bathroom. We were lucky to be on the 4th floor which gave us a partial view over the bay. The room was well appointed, everything you might need for a short stay. However ,the walls are thin so noise is an issue. We didn't have dinner here, or breakfast as we left very early in the morning. Easy walk into town, and short drive to the ferry terminal. Convenient, would stay again.

    5
    « Elegance and location »

This hotel has a wonderful view of Oban's busy seaport. It is one of those wonderful old hotels that has been refurbished so that you experience the very high ceilings and spacious accomodations. The proximity to restaurants and shopping is a short walk along Oban Bay. There is also a castle to explore within walking distance. The sitting area just beyond the hotel's entrance is beautifully decorated and very inviting. The parking is limited but not a problem as you can leave your car for your entire stay and walk everywhere you need to. The breakfast was excellent.

« Base for motorbike tour »

Great base for touring the west coast of Scotland. The Queens hotel has provided accommodation for our last two year's Scotland motorbike trips. They have single rooms that are great for our needs. Set in the lovely seaside town of Oban the hotel is at the quiet end of town right on the sea front. Rooms are fine if not a little simple but are very clean. Breakfast is extensive with hot and cold buffet and also a menu for additional dishes such as smoked fish etc . . . Don't be put off by the mention of motorbikes. We are a friendly mature group of friends and a minority of the hotels guests

    3
« Good location, Excellent breakfast, Adequate room »

Great location on the bay. There was not enough room for parking and street parking was difficult even in April. It was about 20 minute walk to the ferry terminal on the seawall walk. Service was good, and the included buffet breakfast was excellent. The room was just adequate, not terrible, but the worst of our 2 week trip. Stayed 2 nights. We were in the back part of the hotel with a limited view of the ocean.

    5
« Well deserves its rating »

The locals still call this place "The Queens Hotel," and got a bit frustrated when I referred to it as Best Western. I guess they have yet to get used to the new ownership, although I have no idea how long has it been since the new ownership started. Sometimes new ownership means new regulations, attendance, etc. I have no experience with this place, but it seems to be managed the same way that other privately owned hotels do. First off, it is very nicely maintained, and that is something that unfortunately I cannot say of too many hotels. The room was broad and spacious, and the view of the sea is just calming. As mentioned, staff were great, helpful and caring. Amenities as much as expected, and bed was excellent. I suppose this place will be visited by me again in the future.

« A Very Nice Hotel in Oban »

I stayed in this hotel over a May weekend and I very much enjoyed my stay. It's location is on the waterfront with great views. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The lobby area and restaurant was comfortable and the bar area was rather cozy. My room was comfortable and clean. Would definitely stay here again.

    4
« Good Place to Stay »

Staff welcoming and friendly, particularly 'Mags' who went over and above to help us. Our room had a partial sea view which was fine. The room itself was just about large enough for 2 adults, it was spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable but the pillows were a wee bit firmer than my wife and I prefer. The bathroom was adequately stocked and boasted a 'Jacuzzi Bath' which my wife tried and thoroughly enjoyed. The breakfast 'buffet' selection was first class and catered for all tastes. On this occasion we only stayed the 1 night but would certainly come back again for a longer stay.

« Great value, pretty town »

The rooms were very nice, but no view at all. Had to climb a flight of stairs, but other than that, very nice room, very friendly and helpful hospitality. Within waling distance of anywhere you want to go in town.

« Very Nice Hotel in Oban »

This is a lovely place to stay. The staff is helpful and kind. There is a bar and restaurant on site. The rooms in the annex, where we stayed, are large and immaculate. The location is good and a 10 minute walk from central Oban.

« A superb ending to our journey! »

We have stayed at the Queens Hotel on several occasions over the years and returned this past Friday hoping it would be as good as our previous trips and we were not disappointed. Once again all the staff excelled, especially the gentleman in reception who went out of his way to make our overnight stay a very happy, relaxing and refreshing end to our business trip. As we were aware that the car park is small and very busy, I had called in advance and the disabled space was reserved for us. Although the situation of the hotel rooms are not really suited for disabled people, if you are willing to take the time and put in the work required to climb the stairs to the first floor (I require two elbow crutches to get about) I can confirm that the bay view rooms are well worth the effort!! The sitting area in our room allowed us to relax and enjoy the superb views of the bay which for us is well worth the additional cost. The free wifi also allowed us to catch up with our e-mails. We dined in the hotel bar where the food was first class, lovely seafood expertly cooked, with really good service. After an excellent nights sleep on a very comfortable bed, we enjoyed a good buffet breakfast, which was hot, fresh and very tasty and set us up for our journey back to the North-east coast. When we next visit Oban, we hope we can once again enjoy the excellent services provided by the Queens Hotel.

    « Enjoyable stay but... »

We stayed for one night only and was pleasantly surprised as hotel was better than I had expected. The hotel is fine not too dated our room was in an annex at the back which most of the hotels on this road seem to have. No sea view for us! Parking as others have said is problematic. Breakfast was good and nice choice, everything nice and clean. Now for the but had phoned reception before I booked to ask if the beds were soft or hard as I have serious problems with soft beds. Reception could not tell me what they were like. Took a chance and booked. This was a mistake as the bed was too soft so had to sleep on floor. It's a bit too expensive for that. Manager did offer another rooms but bed was the same so declined. He did say that they had new beds being delivered next week! Won't be going back staff should know what the beds are like I can't be alone in having a problem.

    « Queens Hotel Oban »

Stayed there from Friday 28th April until 1st May. Room clean, good size and comfy. Facilities very good. Jacuzzi bath with lights - excellent. All staff very friendly, helpful and pleasant. Food very good and nice cosy bar with good priced drinks. Nothing too much for staff to help with.

« Lovely hotel with lovely staff »

We had a lovely nights stay here, the staff were very friendly, food was very good value for money. The room facilities were good, internet access was slow, I suspect as we were a long way awY from reception. Lot of noise from adjoining lift shaft which was not ideal

« The Queens hotel- revisited »

One year on and we decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary with a trip back to Oban. We were so impressed with our stay at Best Western Queens hotel last year that we decide to stay there again....and I am so glad we did. We parked the car up and didn't use it again until we left as the hotel is ideally located and within ten mins walking distance of the town centre. Nothing has changed much in a year. The fuss-free check-in, friendly staff (Rob) and the wonderful food is still evident while the Bay view room (42) was even better than the room from last year (partial view). Breakfast was also superb with a buffet style selection of fruits, yogurts, croissants. While there was plenty to choose from for those liking a more traditional Scottish fry. Black pudding, sausage, eggs, bacon etc. Rooms are clean and comfortable but there was nothing we enjoyed better than just sitting in the lounge at the bay view window enjoying a glass of wine. We can't fault the place and look forward to staying again next year!!

We had rooms 7 and 8, the first two photos show the view as I sat up against my pillows. The rooms were comfortable, 7 had a single bed and jacuzzi bath with overhead shower, 8 had a double bed and large walk-in shower in the en-suite. Breakfast was buffet style with a menu of extras, the salmon and scrambled egg were presented beautifully Photo 3 shows the view from dinning room. All the staff were friendly. Dog friendly rooms available so. I hope to return with my family to this well appointed and pleasant hotel Parking available but limited numbers

    « A good choice »

I work in Oban for a week in every month and have done for longer than I care to remember and try to avoid the hotels as much as possible as my preference is for the 4* guest houses that provide a great service for single travellers. On my last visit my preferred locations could not take me so I had a look at Booking.com and found a reasonable deal at this hotel that showed up well on TA. I had stayed here years ago when it was under different ownership and vowed never to return - never say never. I had a very comfortable stay in a smallish but well equipped single room with a large bathroom and with a single bed that I (6' 1") just about fitted. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a large and varied choice and I was impressed that the fried eggs came soft and not like rubber as in much larger branded hotels. I had one bar meal that was delicious and of the hotel's restaurant standard although, if you are large meal inclined, you may need more than one course. The staff were extremely polite and very efficient and the room was fresh and immaculate. In common with all the hotels on Corran Esplanade parking on site is at a premium but on road parking is generally available although this may change if the Council gets its way and extends the yellow lines. The only downside was the slow shower and the lack of ventilation in the bathroom but this can be encountered in the majority of hotels these days. The only solution to a mist free mirror for shaving is to leave the door open let the steam invade the room and mist the window. At £60 per night the hotel is well worth a try.

« Clean and tidy, staff make it! »

Overnight stay for 7 tired bikers! The hotel itself has seen refurbishment in places and looks to be an ongoing project. We had 4 twin rooms to the rear of the hotel which looked to be recently refurbished and had whirlpool baths which were a nice touch and would have been used if we had stayed longer. The bar and lounge area are modern and pleasent. Overall the hotel is very clean and well presented. On arrival we recieved a warm welcome from the reception staff who worked together well and one also ran the bar. The lady on reception could not do enough to help and not only reserved a table in a local resturant but also found a local garage open on bank holiday monday which had a replacement battery for one of the groups motorbike! The staff at breakfast were friendly and helpful and we recievced a nice farewell. In all we would have gladly spent a few more days here but other comittments prevented us from doing so!

    « Amazing hotel »

My boyfriend booked this hotel for easter weekend as a break for us. From start to finish we couldn't fault anything about this hotel. We were met by the friendly receptionist as we arrived and she checked us in and made sure we got parked ok. Parking could be increased as it is very tight and not many spaces. The room was gorgeous with a view of the bay of oban. The bed is very comfortable and bathroom very clean. The breakfast provided is also brilliant and cooked freshly to help yourself. Can't wait to return to this hotel in the future and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in oban for a break.

    « Fabulous hotel »

Stayed recently for 5 days. From the warm welcome from reception staff till the farewells, our stay was fabulous. All the staff from management to waiters & waitresses were all very well mannered and could not be more helpful. We must single out Sonya who made our meal times more enjoyable with her banter. Breakfasts were well cooked and plentiful. There was a wide and varied menu to choose from. We ate dinner within the hotel on two evenings. The menu was again varied to suit from burgers to fine dining. We were not disappointed on either occasion and approached the chef himself to congratulate his skills. The ambiance and decor was stunning. The views over the bay outstanding. Our overall experience, having been in many, many hotels worldwide was that this small 'family' run hotel is up there with the best. You would be daft to stay elsewhere whilst in Oban.

    « Nice and friendly »

It is not a fancy hotel, but i makes it up with its charm. We had two rooms facing the bay, highly recommended, with great views. The service was great and the rooms very comfortable. The breakfast had the usual fare and was adequate. We definitely stay again if in the area.

« Lovely hotel on the esplanade »

I was there for one night during my trip around Scotland and I found this lovely victorian hotel perfect. It is lovely inside and it has a great view on the bay. My single room was small but comfortable and clean. Heating, hot water and wifi worked well. Breakfast was buffet style, with plenty of options. They also serve tea/coffee and toasts to your table. Staff was very attentive and helpful. I would definitely go back!

« What a view from our room! »

Spent the day shopping in Oban and then looked for a hotel and found the Queen's Best Western. We were given a room with a view of the water and a fancy Jacuzzi tub with colored lights for 65 pounds. There was a very good breakfast included with our room. This is a very pretty city. We walked the streets both during the day and evening. We only spent one night and ate dinner at a nice restaurant/bar but can't remember its name.

    « Staff couldn't be more helpful »

We have just returned from a 4 day stay at this hotel, our party of 4 have nothing but excellent praise for the hotel, facilities and most of all the staff. The rooms we had were clean, spacious, comfortable with a sea view, all we expected from a good hotel and certainly value for money.. Breakfast had pretty much everything you could want but if not you only have to ask a member of staff and they will accommodate, on several occasions we asked for extra coffee and toast and it was no trouble at all. The hotel was full as was the dining room at night so we choose to eat in the bar, it was the same menu as the dining room and the menu was varied to suit everyone The staff were all very helpful and friendly, we couldn't name just one as they were all excellent. We look forward to our next visit and hope it won't be too long till we return.

    « Really nice. »

We arrived and were warmly welcomed by the receptionist. After going to the room i was bitterly disappointed. It looked into a wall that had algae on it and a broken down pipe was leaning against the wall. I went down to reception and politely asked if we could be moved. This was not a problem and we were given a beautiful room overlooking the bay. The hotel was excellent, housekeeping was excellent, breakfast was excellent and service was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Lovely hotel was given an upgrade to the front overlooking the bay, breakfast was excellent plenty of choice staff were very friendly and helpful highly recommend a visit. Also recommend ferry trip to mull very cheap.

« Lovely sea side Victorian hotel »

We stayed for one night in the 'deluxe bay view' room. It's a bit pricey (we paid £155 for the night) but if you can afford it or are in Oban for a special reason, I would recommend paying the extra cash and booking this room. The room was lovely with two big armchairs in the bay window to sit and look out at the beautiful views of the bay. The bed was huge and comfy, the bathroom was clean, had a hot tub bath and there were heated towel racks. There was also a good selection of hot and cold options at breakfast. I have no hesitations in recommending this room. I dare say the other rooms would be nice and comfortable too.

« Hotel located in harbour area a 10 minute walk from the centre of Oban »

Lovely hote with a really friendly team. Rooms are nice and clean and they provide a truly great full cooked breakfast. Prices are reasonable and they offer a range of bar meals and restaurant dining. Look out for winter offers of 3 nights for 2. Only down side is corridor connecting main building to annex is freezing.

    « Mortified »

We stayed for three nights and this would undoubtedly have been a five star review if it wasn't for the appalling customer service I received when checking out. Let's start with the good. We arrived very late after an awful 8hr drive through rain and snow to a very warm welcome. We were given our key cards and directions to our room, after a couple of wrong turns we made it to our room (this was not the fault of directions given it was our tiredness not quite understanding) The room was a reasonable size and very clean but what was a surprise was the size of the bed (massive) and the jacuzzi bath, this was amazing after such a long journey. The breakfast each morning was fantastic as was our evening meal each night, very attentive and friendly staff. Every day the room was serviced and tea, coffee, toiletries etc replenished. Overall we had a wonderful stay, we had said this was somewhere we would definitely return to. Unfortunately the morning of our departure did not go so well, after breakfast I had taken my husband down to the boat as he was diving that morning, I returned to the hotel and went to check out to be greeted by the most unfriendly, unhelpful and intimidating receptionist I have ever met. We had settled our bill for our evening meal and drinks each night before returning to our room, when checking out I was presented with a bill for our previous nights food, i explained there must be a mistake as we settled our bill, he had a look through the receipts and told me I was wrong it had not been paid for, this conversation went on for a while, this man would not listen to what I was saying and was very obnoxious and rude in front of what had become quite a queue behind me, without using the words he was accusing me of lying and trying to get out of paying. Unfortunately my husband had not obtained a receipt (he never does, lesson learnt he will in future). He said that it had not been paid and he would be taking it off the card we had booked with, by this time I was absolutely mortified and just gave him the cash and left. Once my husband had finished diving I explained what had happened and we returned to the hotel to be met with the same man, once again it was explained that there had been a mistake, we were told we were trespassing and asked to leave the building to which we refused, his response was to threaten to phone the police which we said we had no problem with as we were not in the wrong, we asked if they had cctv as this would have shown by husband paying at the bar, he responded yes but was not prepared to look. We said what staff were on and maybe they could help, again his response was a no. At no point did this man acknowledge that mistakes happen and he could be in the wrong. We eventually had the barman confirm that we had paid. After all this we got the money back which wasn't the issue it was the way we had been treated like criminals. Upon finding the mistake this obnoxious man gave the briefest of apologies but at no time apologised for his horrific customer service skills.

    « Diamond Wedding Escape »

Stayed here for 4 nights. Very comfortable room (3) with a great view over the bay. Jacuzzi bath extra bonus. Very hot water. Food was excellent and quickly served by efficient staff. Room was very clean as was the linen on the very large bed. Grateful to staff for maintaining secret regarding surprise visit by friends. Thank you very much and well done. A couple of down sides for me. Being a bit elderly, I found the lack of a lift to the first floor a bit of a problem, experiencing some difficulty with the stairs. I think that a hand rail in the shower/bath would be an advantage. Having said all that I would definitely stay there again.

« Decent price but average hotel »

One night stay only , double room incl. breakfast . Positives include good location , parking , warm , clean & tidy. Hotel a little tired but still good . Bar area needs better lighting , too bright & cold with the main chandeliers , some table lamps & floor lamps would transform the room into a cosy bar area where you would sit & have a few drinks. Room clean , warm & comfortable with a jacuzzi bath which was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast average though staff pleasant & welcoming. Why must staff must be told to wear all black clothing is disappointing , like a funeral home rather than a hotel. Overall I would go back given the value for money however improvements need to be made to the bar area to make it more welcoming & cosy.

« Very good and comfortable - shower a little disappointing. »

This is a very comfortable hotel with an old-style feel about it. The room was very comfortable, the hotel lobby was a great place to read and the bar felt warm and cosy. The only failing was that when the shower temperature was increased to an acceptable level, the pressure dropped to a trickle in Room 8. Breakfast was great and the table I was shown to had a stunning view of Oban Bay. Much enjoyed and would recommend.

« Best Western Queens Hotel Oban. »

This best western hotel provided exelent value for money. The website warned that there was scaffolding around the hotel, but this was minimal. Some parts of the hotel interior look a bit dated, but this is understandable these days. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was very good with quality products.

    « Most Enjoyable »

Got a good deal from this hotel by booking direct. We booked on the Friday morning and checked in on Friday afternoon for two nights B & B. We arrived to a very pleasant welcome from Peter at reception. Everything was absolutely perfect. Fault the breakfast at your peril !. Loch Fyne kippers to start with followed by Sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding etc. A very enjoyable two day break.

    « Comfortable and clean »

Booked with this hotel for the first time and stayed last night. Chose it because it is dog friendly. Nothing was a problem on arrival and went to room to find a lovely dog bed, bones and bowls to make our wee dog feel at home too! Room was clean and comfortable. There was a lot of choice for breakfast and staff were friendly. Looking forward to returning.

« Recommending this to everyone I know! »

I booked here based on the reviews, saying it had been done up and was worth a visit. The service was first class and my room was immaculately clean. Maybe not the most up-to-date decor but bathroom and bed were both spotless. Really comfy bed & a window which opens - hurrah! What stood out for me was the quality of food in the main restaurant. It was hands down the tastiest meal I've ever had in a hotel! The halibut was exceptional and if I'd been staying another night I'd be ordering it again!

    « Good For A Short Break »

My wife and I booked three nights on a bed and breakfast basis and overall, the Queens was a pleasant place to stay. It is only a brisk ten minute walk from the town centre or if that's too much for some people, the local bus stop is almost at the door. The standard of housekeeping is excellent and all the areas we were in (including our room) were all spotlessly clean. Our room was on the smallish side but the double bed was huge and very comfortable! Some minor criticisms would be the shortage of drawer space and unfortunately, our spa bath was broken which was a disappointment. The soundproofing could also be a bit better as we could actually hear someone snoring next door! Our room was located to the rear of the hotel and the route there from receptionwas a bit convoluted involving a small flight of stairs, some awkward doors, then a lift to the third floor. However, it had a partial sea view and it was entertaining to see the ferries passing about two hundred yards away! We ate in the hotel on the second evening, opting for a table in the lounge bar/brasserie as we felt the dining room menu prices were a bit steep. The food was excellent as was the service and I would recommend you try it. The buffet breakfasts were also first class with a wide selection to suit all tastes. Porridge, kippers, cereals, warm croissants, cold meats and cheese, full Scottish cooked, you name it and they have it. Service with a smile too, Magda in particular, although we found every member of staff to be extremely pleasant and very helpful. The manager Peter even offered to book our cinema tickets in advance for us! One word of caution...parking at the front of the hotel is very tight although we were lucky and managed to get a bay each night. If you are away for the day, try and get back around 4pm as we did and you should be okay. All in all, we had a peasant stay and would consider a return visit, provided we get a room with a spa bath which actually works!

    « A credit to Best Western. »

I am wary of Best Western hotels that I am not familiar with, however, we were pleasantly surprised by the Queens. The staff in particular were friendly and welcoming, the hotel itself (I think recently refurbished) was very clean and well laid out. The room was a bit small but warm and clean with plenty of power points. The breakfast was perfect. We also sampled the bar menu and had an excellent meal.

Good location, spacious, spotless room, great buffet breakfast, happy, smiling staff! Brilliant! And the best in-room nibbles of any hotel we've stayed in! Plenty of free parking. Ten minutes amble along the prom to the town centre, lovely sea views. Don't stay anywhere else in Oban!

    « Excellent stay »

Very helpful staff all through the hotel. Although there isn't a lift from the ground floor the staff offered to carry our cases to the next floor where we caught the lift. The room clean, comfy bed, free wi-fi, clean and modern bathroom with all working facililites, compliement of toiletries topped up when required. We had a hearty well cooked breakfast. The staff always smiling, friendly & efficient. nothing was too much trouble. We had our evening meal in bar area the young man who served us was efficient, friendly and very polite..The hotel is situated on the esplanade with lovely sea views from the dining room whilst having breakfast or sitting in the beautiful lounge areas. The hotel is about a 10 minute stroll to the harbour where a boat can be caught for a pleasant sail to the isle of Mull. This hotel is friendly - the reception.staff look at you when they speak to you , always pleasant and service with a smile (a lot of hotels lack this personal touch), the cleaning staff always spoke and were very polite - they do a damn good job and deserve a mention, the bar, restaurant staff the same. By the way the food in the restaurant was served fresh and was delicious, so compliements to the chef too. A most enjoyable stay, if we get back to this part of the world we would not hesitate to use this hotel and would definately recomment it. Well done team, keep up the good work and thank you for a good stay.

« Great setting but bit pricey »

The hotel is situated right on the front overlooking Kerrera. It is nicely furnished and decorated downstairs and has a cosy and friendly atmosphere, helped by the relaxed and friendly staff. We had a few drinks and a mixture of small menu items rather than a proper meal and enjoyed everything, other than the chips that were a bit overdone. Breakfast was also enjoyable. Our room was in the extension at the back of the hotel. It clearly wasn't built to match the style of the original building and is really just there to increase the capacity of the hotel. Our room was sufficient but certainly not spacious. The 'view' was a small section of the weed-infested flat roof between parts of the hotel and you certainly wouldn't know you were in somewhere as scenic as Oban. The walls weren't sufficiently sound-proofed. A few less rooms so that those provided could have been slightly larger and better sound-proofed, with a bit of care of the outlook from the windows, might have helped justify the cost of bed and breakfast. We spoke to another couple who had managed to get a room at the front of the hotel (i.e. in the original building) and they loved it. Parking at the hotel, and outside, is very limited and the spaces that are provided are on the small side. It's a shame I couldn't be more positive because we did enjoy our stay; it's just that we have obtained a lot more for our money elsewhere, and expect a lot more. I've described the hotel as luxury in the optional information because at £135/night that's what I would expect.

« Mediocre food, hard to park »

We came to Oban especially to dine at EE-usk, our favorite restaurant on the West Coast. We missed that chance since we would have lost our parking space, The description says parking is "first-come-first-served" but we arrived shortly after noon and were asked to park on the street. We finally got a place at the hotel an inch or so from an ivy-covered wall but were subsequently "penned-in for the evening. Other guests found spaces at dinner time. We were further stressed by a poorly cooked dinner at the Queen's followed by a unpalatable breakfast. You will probably need to carry luggage up 13+/- stairs.

    « Relaxing »

The Queens is a relaxing 20 min. stroll from the station along the sea front . Staff were very welcoming. My single room was just fine, working TV and a bath with shower. All clean and tidy with room serviced every day. Breakfast was self service with all the usual choices. I was seeing friends so did not have dinner there but the menu looked good. The view from the front of the hotel is across the lovely bay to the islands. Will be back on my next visit to Oban.

« Very friendly, comfortable and clean »

Great cheapish hotel. Nice and clean. Food in the restaurant was lovely. Slightly understaffed but it was end of season. Great location, clean bedroom and bathroom. Jacuzzi bath was a nice touch but very noisy. Ideal for 1 or 2 nights after Craggy Island triathlon!

« Best Western Queens Oban »

It was ok, but nothing particularly special. It is walk-able from the train station, but you will probably prefer to get a taxi (available from outside the station) if it is raining/you arrive late/ you are not very mobile. It's about £5. Room small, but acceptable. Good to have tea/coffee making facility in room. Shower could have been a bit more powerful. We did not bother with breakfast, as there are plenty of places in town. Decent food (burger was good) if it's too rainy to go out of an evening. Bar was fine. This attracts a slightly older crowd. Only pointing that out for info! Staff friendly and helpful. While our stay was ok, there is no particular reason to recommend this place. We felt t was a bit over-priced.

« Stay at the Queens Hotel, Oban »

Very comfortable hotel. Good food and service. Rooms clean and comfortable. There is an annex which if you are unlucky you may not have a sea view. The position of the Hotel makes up for it though. No more than 10 minutes walk to the centre of Oban. Try the distillery tour - should not be missed!

« Functional, but clean and great staff »

Had an overnight stay at the hotel. Checked in late and out very early. The staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. The night porter could not have done more for us to ensure we had breakfast and made our early departure. The room was functional and very clean. Only downside is that the hotel is starting to look a bit dated inside.

    « Oban delight »

Stayed for a couple of nights in Oban during our Scotland driving tour. We chose the Queens Hotel over other options due to its Best Western affiliation really as there little to choose between several similar options. We arrived early evening to find the small hotel car park full. However the Receptionist kindly let us unload and check in first and then ensured me that Esplanade parking was free. I found a spot straight across the road from the hotel, simply perfect. Road parking did seem a much better option as during breakfast we watched cars struggling to navigate out of a crowded small hotel car park as people departed for the day. Check in went very smoothly and we were shown to our room, a somewhat convoluted and distance away from Reception. However the room was fine if slightly on the small side. With a stretch one could see the sea from the window. Seeing many Oban hotels we noted that beyond nice frontages, basic accommodation blocks were built to the rear, plain on the outside but more than adequate internally. Given the time we opted to explore the area and did not dine in the hotel. Upon returning we had a drink in the lounge and the hotel restaurant was very busy and many people/residents were eating in the bar area. This not a problem as there plenty of room and it all added to the ambience nicely. Plus the food did look rather tasty. Both nights of our stay we slept very well as the bed was most comfortable and the hotel and area peaceful and quiet. Breakfast is a buffet style and the selection and quality was to a good standard. Sitting in the dining area offered great views of Oban Esplanade and the room was airy with a very pleasant décor. All members of staff that we encountered were very helpful and polite and I have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Oban and at the Queens Hotel.

    « Great hotel »

Booked an overnight here for myself and my husband we had a fantastic time hotel was nice staff very friendly could not check in till 3 however allowed us to park our car early so we could have a walk about Oban. The room was clean and the spa bath was amazing. The view from the room was beautiful. If you have mobility issues I would request a lower room as you need to go to the first floor for the lift. One of the downsides was The buffet breakfast which was not nice at all. Apart from this I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again

    « Great overnight stay »

Stayed in Oban for one night and will be back, Staff and reception great and helpful hotel lovely and breakfast superb. It is a bit of a walk into the centre of Oban but the walk is nice and a big advantage is that you can park your car in the hotel if you are early enough to check in . If not there is parking by the roadside. Not much more I can add on a short stay but would recommend it strongly.

The hotel is satisfactory and could be graded as 3.5 rather than 4. Accommodation is satisfactory bur parking is a problem unless you come before 5 pm and not take your car out again. We ended up using taxi in the evening to go into town. The staff at the reception are helpful and friendly. The staff in the restaurant , for breakfast , are excellent and the breakfast more then satisfying as they do have a good variety on offer. The elevator is on the 1st floor and hence one has to carry the luggage over a flight of stairs. This is difficult for seniors!!!

Checked in late. Desk clerk went out of his way to find us a parking space right by the front door and carried our luggage to our room. Best service in a long time. Hotel quirky but charming. Great stay.

    « don't stay in room 25! »

Great hotel great staff lovely rooms but room 25 next door to lift which is very very noisy and clunky.wakened up at 3am so sleep very disturbed which wasn't great as had long drive back . wouldn't use this room if I was the hotel.

« Need to climb stairs to first floor for access to lift »

This is a comfortable and well located hotel with a good restaurant and bar. The staff are very friendly and helpful but if you are handicapped there is the drawback that you need to go up the stairs to the first floor where some of the bedrooms are located and from where there is a lift to higher floors, though at the front where some rooms are located there is no lift at all. There are also a couple of steps from the car park in to the hotel. Help is available with baggage, but dependent on when you arrive, or leave, you may need to wait. The hotel is situated on the Esplanade with just the road between it and the sea. Most rooms are in an annex at the back from where you can still see good views of the sea, but not unobstructed. The car park is just a bit small for the number of guests and not everyone can park there. Parking is available on the Esplanade, but tends to be fully taken during the day. The location is out of the centre, so quieter than if it were in. Bedrooms comfortable with good en-suite. We liked it and would go again.

    « Just fine »

Very nice. Everything in Oban is a little pricey so don't be surprised. Nice staff. Rooms are clean but not huge. It's Scotland and all is relative. I would stay here again should I find myself on the west coast of Scotland.

« Excellent staff plus good location »

We were staying at this hotel recently (for two nights) and I had to write to say a big "thank you" to all the lovely staff who work here. They were hard working, friendly and helpful - and kept smiling even though they were often under pressure. You all are a credit to your company, thank you.

    « A wonderful place to stay »

We stayed here for three nights and received excellent service from staff. Our room was lovely with views over the islands and was immaculately clean. We enjoyed good food in the bar as well as hearty breakfasts. We will certainly plan on returning soon.

    « False advertising »

We stayed one night and as nice as the hotel is there's nothing worse then having the trip advisor advert clearly say "free breakfast " and then finding out you do have to pay for it, and with most places be full you have little choice but to pay and then write a poor review of the hotel in general

« Avoid of you can »

I booked this hotel which at over £150 pounds per night for a superior deluxe room with seabird seemed expensive even for Oban. But since I left it late and my stay was short I thought a nice big room with sea view is worth it. On arrival at the hotel I discovered that my room was at the back. Directly above the kitchen with the extractor fan in front of the window with enormous notice and food smell. When I enquired with Peter the receptionist, who on arrival did not even offer any help with luggage, how the rooms are allocated he simply stated: by computer. When I told him I booked directly with Best Western central reservations and was assured a sea view deluxe room he simply told me:They do not know the hotel. You should have telephoned me! They are just marketing people and don't know the rooms! The rooms furniture is cheap and cheerful. The jacuzzi bath is amazing but I would have preferred a shower which produces more than a trickle of water. I thought even in the UK the bathrooms have improved over the last 20 years. Not here. Plus shoddy paintwork, unfriendly staff. Maybe the elderly English seaside holidaymakers who seem tocome here since the 60 put up with these standards and price. I will not return.

    « Two day visit »

Very friendly and professional staff. The food in the restaurant is delicious but ensure you book as it is quickly filled by residents and non residents. Our room was super with a Jacuzzi bath. Most rooms are in the annex so a bit of a trudge to get to the lift so keep luggage to a minimum. Parking is a bit limited but there is plenty of street parking. Good location to walk into town.

« Some of the staff delivered a very good service some didn't »

We were a group of 10 staying here for 2 nights. We had dinner here the first night and unfortunately was not guided well enough from the staff leaving us with a expensive 3 course dinner and the dishes served didn't give value for money. It would have been more fair if the staff had the courtesy to inform of the bar menu choices as they seemed more reasonably priced. When trying to express that we would like to have some more truffles (in the Risotto that was announced as Risotto with Truffles) the manager (I suppose) went into argument ending up in leaving us frustrated and her winning the discussion. Not very good customer service. Later she triumphantly placed what was left of the truffles at our table - however not fresh truffles as she earlier claimed. The rest of there staff did their best to service the customers. The breakfast buffet had all you needed without being flashy. The hotel is located at the end of the Esplanade and thus requires a brisk walk to get downtown. The hotel has parking facilities but only limited spaces however it is possible to park right outside where there usually is space available. Not necessarily a hotel i would return to.

« Worth the trek up the bay »

The Queens is at the far end of town, about fifteen minutes walk from the station. It's a bit dated, but IMHO that adds to the charm. Our twin room was basic but clean and well-supplied with the essentials, which is all I ask from a hotel room really. The bathroom could have done with a shower mat though; it may be that you can request one at reception but I think a mat should be present as standard. Staff were friendly and always available. We went for a late breakfast one day but there were still plenty of food choices available. Wifi was free but the signal didn't extend to our room, so we had to go down to the lounge to take advantage of it. Overall, good value for money. I'd happily stay here again.

    « Great Weekend Stay »

We came to stay for the weekend and everything was perfect. Room had a fairly good view from 4th floor. The room was a good enough size and had a huge bed which was really comfy. The room was very clean and well kept. Bathroom was good with a jacuzzi bath which was really nice. All the staff we spoke to were really helpful and polite. Would definitely recommend this to anyone!

    « Great suite! »

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. It is located along the esplanade only a short walk from the town center to the South and Dunollie Castle to the North. They have a small parking lot and there is lots of free parking on the street. We had the Queen Mary Suite on the third floor. Check in was quick and easy and the personnel were all very friendly and helpful. You do have to walk up the stairs, but not a bother. You enter a small hallway with a wonderful living room that overlooks the water. The bedroom is in the back, so very quiet. The bathroom is clean and has nice amenities. We loved sitting by the windows and watching the boats coming and going. Breakfast was wonderful. Cold cereals, fresh fruit, scones. Toast and coffee were brought to the table. Good choice of hot food on the buffet and a menu where you can order food cooked for you. I had delicious kippers in butter and can still taste the delicious fish. Check out was really easy. We loved staying here and would highly recommend the place - especially one of the two suites.

    « Very disappointing »

I was really looking forward to staying at the Queens, but I left feeling very disappointed. So where to start, on arrival we asked where we could park, though the website stated that there is free on-site car parking, there is only a handful of places, which were all filled. The guy at the reception desk told us to park at the side of the hotel and he would help us with parking once we had checked in. So after checking in and taking the cases to the room, I returned to reception to ask where should I move my car to and was given directions to a free car park in the town - to me this is not acceptable and no one with a half decent car would want to park in a free car park over night quite a distance from the hotel - I eventually found some parking along the sea front, but still a short walk from the hotel. Setting that aside, we decided to stay at the hotel for dinner as we had driven for quite a few hours. My partner ordered chicken caesar salad, which was disappointing with no dressing, and 5 slithers of chicken. I ordered beef pie with chips, which was served with potato wedges not chips. The hotel room was small, but clean and tidy, it had small toiletries in the bathroom, rather old rough towels and the normal tea tray. The room had old furniture but seemed like it was recently given new wallpaper. Breakfast was rather chaotic, either many staff present or none and people wondering where to sit etc. The breakfast was buffet style and you could eat as much as you desired. In general there were some stuff who were trying their best, the guy on reception was damn right rude, his attitude was appalling. Value for money? No, not in the slightest, I would not go there again unless it was half the current price. Over priced by a long shot.

« Friendly Hotel with excellent views and great location for Oban. »

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of August at the time of the Oban Games. Weather was sunny & dry. Busy in town but within walking distance of all the activities that Oban has to offer. Near the Ferry port & station with lovely views across the bay. Hotel staff friendly & helpful. Excellent breakfast & restaurant menu, & good wifi provision. Only problem was the limited parking spaces although parking on road outside also available. Would recommend to anyone looking for a few nights in Oban.

    « Ok »

We increased our holiday by one day but couldn't stay where we had already booked, this was the only place in Oban we could get 2 rooms. The hotel was clean and comfortable but the attitude of the man who checked us in wasn't very endearing. Two of us are disabled with a blue badge, they had a disabled space that was empty. He said we couldn't park there as it was reserved for an old couple! We went out and came back late and it was still empty, the only parking space available. The man who had taken over said we could park there. I told him what the other man had said and he said oh ok, perhaps you need to go park on the street somewhere. I said its 11pm I'm sure he was lying and if they were old they would be there and in bed by now. He agreed with me. I wouldn't recommend this if you have any problems as they weren't helpful at all. In fact I would say in 2000 miles of travelling around this beautiful country, this was the only place that made us feel inferior. I won't go back there.

    « Good overnight option »

Hi Everyone... This hotel was booked through Booking.com and I paid £80 for 1 night Bed and breakfast... I have stayed in some of the Lovely Bed and breakfasts along the Esplanade... But in peak season and only for one night (Alot of the B&B's might not take a one night in peak season) so to be honest.... That's a risky Strategy.... The Room was back facing, Clean and tidy.... Fit for purpose... Although if you are staying Longer, a room with a view would be more appropriate... The Hotel does have a Curious Layout, I wonder what the hotel was before it became a Hotel... The interior is very clean and tidy... The Breakfast staff are very polite... Good Interaction with customers... Beautiful and very, very Comfortable Quilted Green Leather chairs... Make Breakfast a Great pleasure... Breakfast itself is a Buffet style with Hot and cold options... I opted for the Hot....A Great selection of favourites under Hot Tray lids all Individually Marked with the Contents... SO you can choose from, Potato Scones, Bacon, sausages, All the usual suspects.. With Further Cooked options Available on a menu on the Table (Smoke salmon and Scrambled eggs) all Delicious and will fortify you for the Day.... Please enjoy Russ ????????????

    « View View View! »

We stayed at The Queens on a short overnight visit to Oban. We paid a wee bit extra for a deluxe bay view room and I have to say it was worth every penny! The large window with armchairs overlooking the bay was just bliss. The hotel itself is very "traditional" and not usually the kind of place we'd stay but it was clean, the staff were nice and the bed was comfy! Wee bit noisy with folk moving about in the morning but it's a hotel, to be expected! We'll definitely be back (so long as we can rebook room 3)

« Small and ugly room, but a good breakfast »

Layout of the hotel seemed reminiscent of a rabbit warren. Bedroom was small with a ground floor view at the blank back of a garage (and that was despite climbing a flight of stairs to get there!). Bed uncomfortable, walls thin and was awake from 6am due to voices and footsteps from above. Breakfast was very tasty though - unusually nice mushrooms!

« Excellent with lovely views »

We stayed here for one night and it was excellent. We had rooms in the original hotel, at the front. My parents are in their late 80s and had a lovely room with views over the bay. There was no lift to the front rooms but the staff were very helpful with the luggage. We also had a lovely room with fantastic view. It is an easy walk into the centre of Oban. Chocolate biscuits, tablet ( a type of Scottish fudge), soft drinks and tea and coffee were provided in the rooms. The breakfast was excellent. Very good stay

    2
    « Not a 4 star hotel »

This place is overpriced for what you get and I would consider it a 3 star hotel. There is no lift until you take your bags up a flight of stairs. We had to walk through 5 doors with our luggage to get to our room which was very annoying. The bed was very uncomfortable and we did not get much sleep at all. Breakfast was okay and the staff were friendly. However I will not be staying here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

    « Beautiful location »

Great location in Oban overlooking the sea. Hotel is a little dated but if you not overly fussy & don't expect it to be 5 star it's worth a visit. It's clean & staff are very friendly. Lift is a little noisy if you a light sleeper it might not be for you.

    « Don't pass this hotel up »

Where do I start?? First of all we rented the suite for 5 nights. There are only 2 of them so book early. Our suite was beautiful and clean and just fresh looking. We had the best sea view (ocean front) looking straight out to the water and to the left you can see Oban (very close). There are lots of different types of boats to watch throughout the day. The bedroom is huge an has the telephone, desk and flat screen TV. There are nice clean robes and slippers. The king bed was very comfortable and there are large windows in the bedroom. The separate living area is also large with 2 chairs and small devans & a flat screen TV. There is a large selection of coffee, tea and hot chocolate along with biscuits (cookies). The wifi is free and works well. The bathroom is large and has a combined tub/shower. But be careful because getting in and out of that tub is dangerous because it is way to high. Otherwise the bathroom is also updated and attractive. There are no elevators here but the staff are more than happy to help you with your luggage. You do need to be able to climb flights of stairs to get to the room. The parking is a headache especially in the evening after the other guests have settled in. The staff do try to recommend a parking location if the hotels lot is full. This is not only a problem with this hotel but most of the hotels in Oban. There is a restaurant and bar at the hotel although we did not use either of them. Lastly, if you are an American who uses a lot of ice you need to know that you are limited to half a bucket of ice per day because the hotels ice machine is too small to allow you more. We just bought our own ice at the local stores. The staff are so friendly and Peter and Rob were the staff members we usually spoke with. The whole hotel is just beautiful.

« Not so best Western »

Pet friendly? Not really. No water, no bowl to put water in. Room one of the furthest away from the exit door/front door, so taking dog out for the obvious required good planning. Room tiny, looking out onto an area of weeds, couple of patches in room where wallpaper coming off wall - could be condensation/mould. The food in the bar was very nice, well done chef, though had to wait ages to get served at the bar. Hotel looks quite grand on initial viewing, but closer scrutiny tells not quite as grand as it would like to be. Price would have been ok if room had been more roomy, and if dogs are allowed to stay make a bit more effort. Promise of treat and water, but nothing. I had to manage stairs and fire doors with dog on lead and my luggage. Help would have been nice, even offer of help.

« Suites are worth the extra ! Staff go extra mile ! »

Only stayed for two nights, busy schedule. But as this was Wedding Anniversary time chose to select a suite. Well worth the extra money for constantly changing views and light over harbour and Kerrera. Beds were divine! Although we never actually ate a proper meal except for one top notch breakfast. Staff arranged early, early morning brekky before sea trip, plus very late night cheese board for two on return. Menu looked good but too much to do. Best Western with family run feel. Must point out parking was limited during our stay as new lines were being painted on promenade! Very Good, Exceptional staff, Proper barman !

    « weather a bonus »

just back from 3 nite stay the weather was beautiful and this just added to the wonderful break.hotel nice and relaxing breakfast all you could ask for , did not try dining in as plenty of alternatives after a nice walk into the centre of oban and back. staff all approachable and nice, standards above average no issues what so ever would use again if in area. some mention parking as an issue but plenty of on street and preferable as tight in hotel area and people walking between cars with suitcases are more likely to mark car panels,(just a thought0

« A Lesson in how every hotel should treat its patrons »

Situated a couple of minutes walk outside the centre of beautiful Oban we had the pleasure of visiting The Queens hotel for just a few nights, now I could go on and on about the excellent breakfast (and I really could) or I could wax lyrical over the fine choice of single malts (with good bar advice) but I will simply say this; If other Hotels need to improve their customer service levels they should look no further than the Queens, Staff went way beyond professional and into downright Friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble. One more drink at the bar? sure! advice on weather, or routes for walking - no problem. The staff were so genuinely pleasant that they repeatedly asked how we were after our walk and even contributed to the charity we were walking for. You guys are the best - even my tired legs would walk me back to your pleasant hotel at a moments notice. - The Walsh Quintet

« Wonderful hotel, wonderful staff »

We recently stayed at the Queen's hotel in Oban for a charity walk up Ben Nevis. Couldn't have been more pleased with our stay, fantastic breakfast (just what we needed for the hike ahead), comfortable rooms, but most importantly wonderful, friendly and helpful staff, who even donated to our cause. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Mixeg bag »

We stayed in the Queens hotel for two nights last week, there seems to be very mixed reviews and following our stay we could understand why. We arrived around 8.30pm in the evening check in was easy, we were lucky that we got a parking space right outside but we could see why some people might not. We immediately went for dinner in the restaurant, service and food were very good. Up to our room, which was very spacious and had a jacuzzi bath. Instructions were included for this, however they didn't tell you that the on/off switch was under the radiator in the bedroom, it took us a day to work it out! Hot water is scalding hot, however the shower was weak. Bed was very soft, so if you've back problems, avoid. Room was clean and made up the following day. We were in Room 4, in the old section of the building. The big advantage was we had high speed internet, some rooms it seems don't, however the big negative was that the room overlooked the rear alley which seemed to be in almost constant use from around 6am, so a long lie wasn't an option. The other major issue was our meal in the restaurant on the second night. We ordered a rib-eye and fillet steak, well done and medium respectively. When they arrived, the chef had mixed the order up with the fillet being well done and the rib-eye medium. We had to send the rib-eye back, we only got a mild apology for this, when you're paying £25 and £30 respectively for your main course, this seems unacceptable. The staff seemed more concerned that the chef would get into trouble than addressing our concerns. Room was pricey at £145 per night including breakfast, which was excellent, however this seems to be the going rate in Oban at this time of year. Overall I don't think we'd stay again, primarily because of the soft bed and noise outside our room, but we've stayed in worse hotels, although possibly not at this room rate.

    « Cosy hotel... »

... with charming details and always alert and friendly crew. Breakfast was very fine, topped with an amazing view outside. The lobby had inviting leather couches and chairs, beautiful chandeliers and warm atmosphere. A good sorted bar with a well informed barkeeper, best food served as well in the bar as in the restaurant completed our evenings during our stay. Because of our short three-day-stay we weren't able to enjoy the jacuzzi in our bathroom, another plus of the hotel. The only reasons for not giving the whole number of points are grounded in the lack of parking space (we were lucky to find one on the street) and the mini-size of our room (executive room just because the view). I wish I could give 5 points for it, because of the charming main aspects.

    « Disaster »

Arrived at hotel and there was no where to park. As soon as I walked into the hotel, there was an unpleasant smell. When I got to my room it was freezing cold, one of the reception staff wasn't that friendly. TV was the same size as an iPad and was in a ridiculous position on the wall. The single bed was very uncomfortable and left me with a really sore back and shoulders. To top it all off, when I was asleep the fire alarm went off about 11pm, I had to get up and dressed and leave my room to find out it was a mistake. After getting back into bed and just falling asleep, the alarm clock in my room went off. After a dreadful sleep, I got up to find out the shower was like a drip, do not stay here!!

    « Road to the Isles #2 »

We arrive here from lunch stop at Abbotsford Hotel Dumbarton (qv) and we love this hotel. Have stayed here a few times, autumn and spring, on way to and from the Isles and always feel very comfortable. It is family owned and run (not just another Best Western) and it shows, because feel you are part of a family when you stay. It is a grade 2 listed building at the front with new well appointed rooms in the annex to the rear which have lift access from the first floor. Our rooms have always been clean, modern and comfortable with views over the bay and busy Harbour. Food is excellent and breakfast majestic. Limited parking but usually places available on the Esplanade.

    « Fine stay. »

The staff at this hotel were kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, there was little parking when we arrived and check in was not until 3 so we had to wait. There are no elevators so all guests have to carry their luggage up at least one flight of stairs. Our room was lovely (huge bed and nice bathroom). View was disappointing to the back of another building and the alley below could get quite noisy. Housekeeping also started vacuuming quite early. Had a small bite and a drink in the evening and the lagoustines and soup were both quite good. Breakfast was minimal but fine.

    1
    « Far, far from 4 star »

We stayed there for two nights, one night in a suite 245 pounds, one night in a room at 145 pounds. While the suite was ok, the room which was in the back building was completely unacceptable. When the elevator was going up and down, you thought an airplane was landing next to your ears. The room was tiny (that´s still euphemistically formulated) and, by my standards, in a highly suboptimal condition. WiFi did not work in the room, neither did the whirl function in the bath tub. The view from the room was so ugly that contrary to my usual habits, I post a picture here. Certainly we would not come back, any of the B&Bs is certainly a better choice. If, however, you decide to go there, go in the front building where you have at least a view of the ocean. For us, it was certainly the weakest of all our hotels in Scotland, and certainly totally overpriced for what they offer.

« Lovely views and amazing breakfast »

Visited here for a couple of nights with family, I thought the hotel was really well situated, with lovely views. The staff were lovely. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and welcoming, which I really appreciated. I'd also like to give a special mention to the breakfast, which was so delicious and with so much choice! I wish I could eat it every day. Some of our group had been on a cycle tour and there was a secure room for them to store their bikes, and the staff were very accommodating of this. My only complaints are that the wifi connection in the room (45) was quite bad, you had to stand near the door or window to get a more usable signal - but this didn't bother me too much as I didn't really use the wifi. The other one is that the noise from the lift did carry through the walls (some other people have said this) but for us it didn't disturb our sleeping. We found the room to be clean and comfortable and overall had a lovely time here. Thank you!

    « Extracted »

We recently had a brief stay at this hotel and had the misfortune to be allocated room 2. This room has an uninspiring view to the rear but more importantly has a large extractor outlet from the kitchen which is very loud. It was acknowledged that others had complained before but we were told that no other room was available and that we would lose our payment if we checked out. We did however curtail our visit due to the intolerable noise of the pipe. Incidentally the room was not cheap; we have paid less in central London. At least the breakfast was good and well presented and we otherwise had no complaint.

    « great stay »

The Queens Hotel is a small hotel with a homely feel. It is ideally situated close to Oban town, rail and ferry services. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. As a solo traveller my room was small but perfectly adequate. It was clean , comfortable and I had everything I needed. Breakfast was excellent with a very good choice. As well as the dining room meals were served in the bar area in the evening which I also found to be a very high standard. I would definitely recommend

    « Great stay »

Really enjoyed it here, especially as two night in a Premier at Fort William fell extremely short compared to the extra 50 pound a night here. Breakfast included here and I would find it hard for it to be beaten. The room was very clean and the facilities great. The staff were friendly, a very pleasant experience. Best Western has gone to the top of my queue and I will be seeking these hotels most definitely ahead of any Premier Inn.

« Best Western Queens Hotel »

We stayed here for my mum's 80th birthday and the quality of service was excellent. All staff went out of their way to make this a memorable stay for my mum. In terms of facilities, the rooms were spotless with adequate space and very comfortable beds. The wi-fi service was good in the rooms. All food was good quality, although the restaurant menu could have been more extensive. Overall it was a very enjoyable stay and we would use this hotel again.

    « Average stay »

We stayed here for only one night as part of a wider holiday where we went to many hotels. Sadly this was a little disappointing when compared to all the others we stayed at. Firstly on arrival the room was not ready , secondly the room was small ( clean) but small. On returning to the hotel at night we were refused a drink at the bar as it was 11.00pm exactly - recommended to go two hotels down the road for a nightcap we chose to ignore the advice and go straight to bed. We eventually got to sleep which was surprisingly difficult as the noise of the lift going up and down came through the walls loud and clear. All that said the place was clean but did feel more like an old folks home and less like a hotel and if the bar staff were a measure of service then it scored low. We would certainly visit Oban again but we would not stay here again.

« Great Staff Average Room »

Lovely staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome at reception. There was no parking for us as we arrived rather late so we had to park at the pay and display carpark and walk which was no bother for us. For travellers with reduced mobility this may be an issue as There seems to be resurfacing of roads or some maintenance resulting in reduced parking across Oban. This will be temporary though. The bar area is small and clean with lovely staff. The breakfast was standard options as you would expect but nicely done. The room itself was clean and cosy enough however had weird plugs on the headboard and tv required tuning. Decor was fresh but the corridors and lift were dated and we could hear our neighbours coughing and snoring. We stayed only a night as were travelling on but would make a comfortable stay for longer. Not the best hotel but not the worst and staff made the stay very personal and welcoming.

    3
« Not the usual Best Western hotel standard »

Excellent location however everything shouted "Tired" in the hotel regarding décor, bedroom and shower/bathroom. We have been to several other BW hotels and I think this is one I wouldn't revisit in a hurry.

    « Beyond Expectations »

My family and I just spent 4 nights at the hotel (July 3-7/16) and were very happy with our choice. We booked two rooms and found both to be quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed the buffet breakfasts that were supplied and we ate dinner there 3 of our 4 nights and found the food to be very good, on the verge of excellent. We had no issues with the staff and found the management bent over backwards to look after my family. Next trip I take will definitely be at this hotel, and any one I know travelling that way will be given this hotels name and advise them to stay there.

« nice hotel in a good location »

1 night stay in Oban that was booked at last minute. Hotel is a 10 minute walk from the main town and overlooks the sea. Our room was ok but didn't have a sea view but was clean and tidy. Breakfast was standard fair for Scotland. I can see that car parking could be an issue if you arrived late as very small car park for size of hotel. However there is on road parking that can be used as well. Oban is well worth a visit.

    « Good hotel »

stayed here one night on a business trip. The hotel is great, staff were very friendly, the room was clean and spacious, and the food was First Class. Yes, there is an issue with parking as the road outside didn't have as many spaces as you would think, but that's it's only draw back. Really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.

« Great base for visiting Argyll »

I had quite a small room on the 4th floor, but the bed was comfortable and the water pressure was fantastic - not always the case in Britain. The staff were extremely helpful, especially Margaret who knows everything there is to know about the area. The restaurant is excellent, not a huge variety but all really well cooked and presented. The bistro is just as good and a little cheaper. The breakfasts were really good both the hot and cold buffets and the menus selections. Great location on the Esplanade.

    « Excellent value »

Helpful, friendly staff, well managed by Tippi the hotel's marketing manager. Good buffet breakfast with excellent choice. Good value for money. Rooms a bit dated but perfectly clean and adequate. Good base for touring neighbouring islands.

« Just fine if not a bit pricey »

I spent 2 nights here in a king suite. It was pricey but the bed was clean and comfortable and the room was clean and well appointed. The bathroom was just fine with plenty of hot water, shower pressure could have been better for me but that is a minor complaint. Overall a good stay in Oban.

« Short but mostly sweet. »

We had originally booked for 4 nights but had to leave after 1 night due to family illness. The receptionist was very sympathetic and helpful and we did not have to pay the remaining nights stay. We were fortunate in getting room 37 which has a lovely view of the bay. We had dinner in the bar which was very tasty but the bar itself is so gloomy and dark......not nice Breakfast was OK. Considering the price we expected better. My sausage and bacon were lukewarm and hard. Hardly any fruit left by 9.00am and the juice was dreadful! I have mobility issues which the hotel knew about but it was still a fair old trek to the room. However, our room was comfortable, warm and beautifully decorated and the lounge area is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine! (the bar doesn't open until 5.30pm...weird) It's a nice hotel but a bit difficult if you have any mobility issues. You are certainly told this when you book but even so.... .

« Fine views and good food »

On the positive side the food was very good - we did have an evening meal at the hotel on the last night - and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We also upgraded to a deluxe double room; the room was located right at the front of the hotel and afforded excellent views from Oban harbour right round to Mull. The room had good en-suite facilities; bathrobes, slippers and coffee/tea making facilities were also provided plus a good wifi connection. The hotel is located about 10 minutes away from the nearest restaurants so you don't need a car leaving you free to drink alcohol with your meal without resorting to a taxi. On the negative side - there is limited parking which is not helped by people failing to park within one slot - I mean how hard is it to park between two parallel lines? You can park on the road but I'm not a fan of street parking and you will be lucky to find a slot outside the hotel - photo attached. And one minor niggle - the hot water seemed to take for ever to come through on the shower.

    « Oban pre-Ferry stay »

Lovely location on promenade with sea views from some rooms. Easy walk along prom to shops, cafes etc. Car parking limited but plenty on promenade road.Lift limited to 1st to 2nd floor.Help provided with luggage.Bedroom had partial sea view, comfortable & quiet. Restaurant had views to sea , well appointed with good menu & quality food. Good service. Breakfast cooked to order. Free wi-fi.

    « NICE »

We were on the 4th floor. right at the back on the lift room 45 so some noise from the lift but it did not disturbe us the jets on the spa bath belched out black moss as if it had not been used for some time but after the first use it was fime the rroms were large and very clean the food was good and it was just a 20 min strole to the main harbour area. in all a good hotel

« Comfortable, but pricey 2 night stay »

Located 10 minute walk from Oban harbour on the seafront, and with limited parking. Average size double room at the back of the hotel with restricted view of the sea. However, the room and bathroom were furnished to a very good standard. Unfortunately breakfast on the second day was disappointing as they ran out of three main ingredients and the waiter was somewhat brusque when this was pointed out. At £150 per night we felt it a bit steep!

« Nice hotel in lovely town »

Grand old white fronted hotel on the sea front . Rooms nice , dated charm. God breakfast and pot-luck parking but on- street parking randomly available. Staff good. Views from the front rooms fantastic and I could sit for hours watching the ever changing vistas and the ferries going to-and-fro. I loved this hotel . Wi-fi among best I've used.

    3
« A decent hotel at the price »

We stayed here for two nights in one of the superior rooms at the front. This is an old-fashioned seaside hotel, so don't expect smart modern design. However, the room was comfortable enough and the view stunning. Breakfast was buffet style with good choice of cooked items. You can also order extra items, such as very good loch fine kippers. We found the staff friendly, particularly the barman. It was good to see they had the local micro brewery's beers available. Parking is very limited and it's pot luck if you get a space. Overall, this is a reasonable hotel at a reasonable price in the lovely town of Oban.

« Great Rooms, Great Food, Great Staff and Great Views! »

We stayed for one night in two rooms. Both had excellent comfort, amenities and views. As we were tired from a day of traveling we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. What a great decision, the food and the hospitality were on par with any high end hotels I have been to. Our waitress, Tippy was amazing and very funny. We enjoyed her company as much as the delicious food. I hope we can return next year.

    « Give this one a miss »

If you're on the mature side, don't want to hike a half mile to your car, or don't want to drag your luggage up stairs, you might want to give this hotel a pass. Parking is a big problem. They have more than 40 rooms but only about 10 parking places. We had to park a good distance down the street behind a church and walk to the hotel in the rain. The only way to get street parking is to end your day early. If you need accessibility, definitely give this hotel a pass. The elevator is up a flight of stairs with no access to it on the ground floor. Hauling luggage up to the elevator was a pain. While the room was clean, the bed was very uncomfortable. Each time we sat on the bed the springs would pop under our bottoms. We didn't get a good night's sleep here at all.

    2
    « Rude staff. »

Can't fault the hotel but the night/morning porter has been very rude now for my last 2-3 trips. Came down for breakfast at 7.27 and he told me breakfast isn't till 7.30 and that I hadn't told him, even though I'd PAID for breakfast. Very rude overall.

« Great View and Great Food! »

I was pleasantly surprised by this Best Western in Oban, Scotland. We generally stay in locally owned and operated hotels and stay away from chains, but l can recommend this Best Western. It is nicely located a bit outside city center, so it requires walking to the pier and shops, but it is very doable. They offer two restaurants for dinner (a casual pub and a nicer restaurant) and both are good. Breakfasts are good as well. The rooms are small, tidy, clean, and the bathrooms are fine. The best part of the room for us was the view of the bay and the Hebrides islands. A nice bonus!

    « West Coast Stunner! »

Booked 5 nights at this hotel.Away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, but only 10 minutes walk along the seafront. Lovely spacious room, well appointed , en suite bathroom with jaccuzi! KIng sized bed etc.Fresh towels and linen each day. We were on a bed and breakfast basis, Breakfast had the full range of food, well cooked.Enjoyed the porridge! Staff were extremely pleasant and efficient. Young East Europeans Maric and Magda were extremely helpful and hard working at all times, as was Peter on reception. The hotel's greatest asset. Especially recommend the scallops and ribeye steak on the Bistro menu..Could do with extra vegetarian dishes. Sticky toffee pudding big disappointment!!!

« Excellent sea front hotel »

Excellent hotel, independently owned, yet part of Best Western's group. Very clean room, excellent bathroom facilities, comfortable bed, sea views. Food in bar/lounge was above what is normally served in such locations,. Will return if we need a hotel in Oban again.

    5
    « Great position - great staff service - »

There is no lift at this hotel in spite on there being 4 floors! The location is perfect - on the sea front and there is lots to do in Oban such as wildlife cruises and cruises to Mull and Iona! Be wRned that there is no porterage service so you have to struggle up the stairs!

    « Short stay »

We booked a 3 night stay but had to shorten this due to unforseen circumstances. We actually stopped for 2 nights and were not charged for the third even after cancelling at such short notice. The standard double room we stopped in was bright and clean and also had a brand new bathroom with spa bath. Staff were all of a professional and friendly disposition. We used the hotel for evening meals. The food was of a good standard although we found the menu to be limited in choice. Breakfasts were also good. Parking could have been an issue but we obviously arrived at the best time as we found a space immediately. Overall, a good place to stop and worth a revisit at some point. Dave W.

« Charming hotel and staff »

Oban is a lovely seaside village and this hotel maximizes the extraordinary view with a happy staff that works hard to take care of you. The restaurant food is equally great! Easy walking about makes this hotel in Oban wonderful!

« Lovely hotel with a beautiful view »

Enjoyed a great weekend at the Best Western Queens Hotel on the sea front at Oban in Scotland.Friendly helpful staff, good sized comfortable clean room with a fabulous view and a great full Scottish breakfast.

    « Four men on a mission »

Ok so Oban is a pretty setting however the Queens would not be my first choice. We arrived in two cars needing secure parking, however the staff took most of the spaces and we were left to park in a public car park half a mile away. In fairness the reception was warm and helpful if not that we could not get an early breakfast as we needed to get the 7:30 ferry to Craignure, we were offered fruit and hot drinks to take with us. It's a basic hotel that serves a simple purpose, beds are ok and bathroom was big enough if not cosy for two guys in twin beds.

    « A lovely hotel »

A lovely hotel overlooking the water. Good size room with very comfortable bed. Very helpful staff, good breakfast and a very good evening meal in their restaurant. We had a window table and it felt really special to eat and look out as the sun set over the water. Free wifi on the ground floor level in the lobby and lounge and dining room.

    3
    « Minimalist hotel!! »

We though choosing a chain would be safe but it was disappointing. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food at dinner was average. The eggs and bacon from the buffet were cold but the next day we ordered smoked salmon and scrambled eggs from the menu and it was excellent. Our room was tiny, we had one small shampoo and one bath gel for two We left a bit of bath gel and it was not topped up when the room was done. There was no fridge, no dressing gowns ,no water. Perhaps this is normal for this grade of hotel. We thought it was 4 stars but to be fair , we paid only £120 a night. There was very little parking. We had to walk miles to park. They told us all the hotels in Oban had the same problem. Overall it was OK for what we paid, there don't seem to be luxury hotels in Oban

    « Lovely hotel »

Lovely hotel staff friendly bedroom lovely only thing was it backed onto the lift and it sounded as if lift was in our bathroom really noisy so when booking ask to be away from the lift. Sadly bar didnt open till 5pm even yo residents. Other than that great hotel and right on the waterfront of oban bay yes I would stay here again

    « A welcome sight - after a day's cycling »

The Queen's Hotel is well located having super views over the water at the front. All members of the hotel staff were most helpful and courteous. My ferry from Colonsay arrived too late to have dinner at the hotel, but breakfast choice was superb; no complaints. I was allowed to keep my bicycle overnight in a covered area at the back of the hotel, so no worries. My (single) room was small but more than adequate with a full-sized bath.

Stayed last night, pet friendly which is good as we had Ruby with us. The room nice, clean and good size. They even provide a big bean bag, water bowl and doggy biscuits for Ruby. The hotel nice very friendly staff. Dinner, great food some nest beef and lamb we have had, very good quality and fair price. Hotel overlooks the bay great views and only 10 minutes walk into Oban. Recommend this hotel if ever in Oban for accommodation and eating.

    « excellent »

We stayed here for two nights for my husbands birthday. Room was lovely, clean, spacious and had the choice of a spa bath or shower. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night and in the bar the second. The staff are brilliant and the food excellent. Breakfast was great with a wide choice to suit everyone. We will return there again its faultless. Car parking is limited but not a problem as theres parking along the road. I felt sorry for staff when customers moaned about it. A brilliant place to stay.

    « Beautiful hotel »

Stately and beautiful this hotel graces the esplanade with its presence. Perfect walk to downtown if you like to walk.(about fifteen minutes all along the water). Breakfast very tasty, rooms clean with comfy bedding and the hotel is very bright. The lift, true, does not go to every part of the hotel. This would not be feasible for a hotel of this age and design. Unless you have mobility concerns this is easy to manage. Great they allow dogs although I did not see or hear any dogs during our stay (we love dogs). Generally very quiet at night.

« Good Scottish country house hotel »

We booked a long weekend for my 60th birthday. The staff are friendly without being intrusive (they noticed my cards and gave my husband one for me!) The standard rooms are a little small but perfectly adequate and the beds are huge and very comfortable. Bathroom had light up spa bath with overhead shower, plenty of hot water. Also, seems very solidly built; I don't usually sleep well in hotels but there was very little noise/footsteps/doors shutting and I slept like a log every night. We tried both the grill and the a la carte menus and both were excellent. Breakfast is full cooked buffet and plenty of it, there are also options like smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which can be cooked to order. Parking is a little tight but the hotel staff are very helpful and inventive on that score.

    « Could be better »

The Queens hotel is well situated at the esplanade in Oban. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are rather small and a little outdated. The bed was not the most comfortable box spring I have encountered. Overall a reasonnably good impression, but compared to other mid range hotels not outstanding. The choice (and knowledge) of whisky at the bar is limited. Unfirtunately no Lagavulin or Coal Ila.

    « Honeymoon 2 night stay »

Just arrived back after a 2 night stay at the Best Western Queens hotel in Oban. Booked here, for a short honeymoon break, based on recent reviews & comments about their restaurant. I have to say we were not disappointed! Our whole experience staying here was first class, yes I can see why some reviews say first impressions are not great, but that certainly was not the case with us. Check-in was quick and easy and on arrival in our bay-view room found a bottle of champagne & card waiting for us. A lovely touch. The hotel looks as though it has recently had a full refurb. Lobby, halls, restaurant, bar area and rooms were all spotlessly clean & in pristine condition while still maintaining its dated characteristics. Staff were very well presented and attentive, Rob & Sonia in particular, were very nice and couldn't do enough for us. The jewel in the Queens crown though really is the food. We dined in the Cuanra restaurant on our first night. The food was AMAZING! It is one of the best dining experiences I have ever had and I would highly recommend it. The 2ND night we ate in the bar brasserie and again the food, although cheaper did not lack in quality. People will argue that there are better and cheaper hotels in Oban and they may be right but the restaurant food & all round service & friendliness of the staff made this visit worth every penny. We will definitely be back for our first anniversary next year. Good job Queens.

    « Just So-So »

We booked this hotel on a large US travel site, but the facts sheet were obviously optimistic at best. The hotel is on the waterfront, which was one reason we picked it, but our "Bay View" room consisted of a view of a slot between two roofs-hardly worth the premium. Another reason I picked this hotel was because the fact sheet said that it had "Laundry". Being half way through a two week road trip, this was important. When I asked where the machines were, we were told that what laundry meant to them was having laundry picked up and returned two days later (we were only staying one night). This meant we had to find a laundry in town, drop off and pick up, which wasted several hours of our day by a later than planned departure. Then there is the "lift", which doesn't come to the ground floor, so you have to lug your bags up a flight of stairs to catch the lift on the second floor. There was no one available to help with the bags, so I had to act as my own porter. The bottom line-the hotel over-promised and under-delivered on several fronts and, for the cost, you can do much better in Oban. .

« Three Night stay in April 2016 »

This hotel proved to be a very pleasant experience. Despite being a budget priced hotel at £80:00 per room per night it far out performed this level. The management and staff were so helpful and pleasant. The food (breakfast) both self service buffet and table service was excellent. Tippi looked after our every needs. Great location I will certainly use this hotel in the future

« Stayed at better two star hotels! »

Room was newly decorated and carpeted, but was very small. The view outside of room 16 was terrible. It faced a wall only feet away and ground was covered with all sorts of rubbish and weeds. Every time anyone used the lift - you heard it! Requested another room but none available apparently. Food was quite simply OK, nothing more. Most of the staff were eastern European, some not understanding English very well. One girl in particular was huge and kept bumping into people. I didn't realise guests could have their pets stay. One dog pestered people at breakfast time - not at all hygienic. On our last two nights we were troubled by excessive noise from other residents. These being the Hero Scottish Malts Classic car tour. Despite their obvious wealth in the cars that they owned, their wealth did not buy them manners nor consideration for anyone else! From 23.00 to 24.30 it was difficult to go to sleep through their talking aloud. This was very evident again at 06.00 onwards. The only disabled parking space was reserved for this car club. In fact, most of the relatively small car park was taken over by them. I made my complaints to the hotel and to the car club but matters just got worse on their second nights stay. Would I stay at this hotel again? NO. A shame really as this was my first ever trip to Oban. Regarding restaurants in Oban I can highly recommend EE UISK and Coast. The latter being exceptional.

    « Two night stay »

This hotel has recently been refurbished and offers comfortable rooms and a friendly, helpful staff. The bar meals were very good, but we would try the restaurant next time too for extra comfort. Breakfast choice was fine. The location is good for reaching Ganavin sands. Great care needed exiting the car park.

    « Wonderful Hotel »

Great stay at the Queens Hotel, check in was quick and easy with nice staff. The rooms were clean and fresh. There was tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the room. There was a nice surprise in the bathroom as the bath was a jacuzzi too, the first night I couldn't get it to work but was then told there was a master switch in a cupboard. The second day I put the switch on but it still didn't work!! I informed the receptionist on checking out and she said they would get someone to look at it, that was for room 15. This was the only disappointment of the stay. The shower was fantastic too. The hotel had a nice bar with a good choice of beers & spirits, which was open until 11pm. Breakfast was buffet / self service and was fantastic, loads of cereal to choose from, fresh fruit & yoghurt, cooked breakfast, and little pastries. Plenty tea, coffee and toast. The hotel was reasonably priced and well worth it, will definitely go back again.

    « Clean comfortable room »

My husband and myself stayed for one night only at this hotel in Oban. On arrival we got the last parking space so be warned parking is limited. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. We didn't have dinner at the hotel but we did have breakfast. Again the food was good however hot and cold food were buffet style which we were surprised at as the hotel is 4 star. We discovered later we could have requested table service with extra food choices IE porridge, poached egg etc but the waiters didn't tell us. I will recommend this hotel to others and would stay again when we are next in Oban.

    4
« Better than it looks »

Very clean and smart and helpful staff. This is one of few dog friendly hotels in the area. Breakfast inexpensive, extensive and quality. On the seafront and very walking accessible to the town. We'd return again.

« Lovely hotel with a great view and doggie friendly »

We stayed for two nights at this lovely hotel. We had a nice room with a partial view of the sea. There was a Jacuzzi bath and the hot water was boiling! The wi-fi was being updated whilst we were there and I think most rooms did have wi-fi, but ours didn't as it was one of the furthest away from reception. The evening meal was good but the breakfasts were excellent, mainly buffet style with other options that were available to order. The staff were very friendly and there was always someone available. The hotel is doggie friendly with dog bowls, beds and biscuits in the room upon arrival - however at £15 per night per dog for 2 nights our Golden Retrievers should have racked up a bill of £60 which is the most expensive I have come across. Parking is very limited, but fortunately we didn't experience any problems.

    « Great location! »

Stayed here for one rainy night in April. Great location and if you can, get a room with the water view......quite spectacular watching the ferries and fishing boats go by. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Parking is very limited but there is free street parking if you can find a spot. I liked the hotel location as it's close to the downtown area but in a quieter neighborhood. Breakfast was included and excellent choices and yummy. We would stay here again!

    « A Pleasant Find »

I booked this hotel at relatively short notice for a business trip with a colleague. It was 16 years since I last set foot in this hotel, so when it popped up on a booking website at a sensible price, I was keen to try it and see what had changed. We were given a warm welcome and the public rooms are very well appointed despite it being a 'traditional' hotel. Our guest rooms were in the original part of the hotel and were fine for our needs - as overnight business travellers. My room was compact being a traditional single room. Whilst staying at the hotel, we took the opportunity to eat in the hotel following a long 6-7 hour drive to Oban. We took advantage of the bar menu and could not fault the quality of the food or the staff. On the morning of departure we needed to be away from the hotel by 0730hrs to catch a ferry to Mull. The hotel offers breakfast from 0730, but they offered us a continental breakfast at 0700hrs, which was fine for our needs. All in all a pleasant stay.

« Room One at Queens Hotel Oban. »

I do not know what the other rooms are like but the room we were in had a splendid outlook over Oban bay and the weather was so good that we hardly looked at the flat screen TV. Two big comfortable arm chairs, a jacuzzi bath with coloured lights, excellent breakfasts and friendly staff all helped to make this a memorable short holiday. Our first visit to Oban.

    4
    « Perfectly satisfactory »

Friendly welcome. Clean room. Nice whirlpool bath and shower. Comfortable beds. Nice lounge area. Breakfast was great. Only slight niggle is for those without a car it's about 15 minutes walk around the bay from the town. If the weather is good, that is absolutely no problem !

« Very comfortable friendly hotel, overlooking the bay. Would definitely recommend »

Just spent Easter weekend at this hotel as two couples, and had a great stay. Staff are genuinely very friendly and helpful. Hotel is warm, comfortable, our room the same, plus jacuzzi bath. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet with an additional breakfast menu inc Scottish choices ie kippers etc, that we could have ordered. Our room was slightly more, as the last available on Expedia when we booked, but for 3 nights, Im glad we paid the £30 extra, it was bigger with settee. No sea view, but I did look in a room facing the sea, and the view was amazing. Lots of extras too, chocs, fudge and cans of pop, as well as a good choice of hot drink sachets. Loved it here.

    « Overnight Stay »

Stayed one night & didn't eat here so can only review room ! Got off to a bad start when we discovered the car park was completely full, there are only 6 spaces for 50 rooms so get there early or be prepared to leave your car on esplanade & walk. The hotel itself was very clean but slightly dated. We payed for a front facing room with a view which was well worth the extra cost with stunning views out over the islands. Bed very comfortable & room had everything you need for an overnight stay. Staff were very friendly

« Right on the bay »

This hotel is situated on Oban Esplanade and it's an easy and beautiful walk into town where you can find many restaurants and attractions including the Oban Distillery and the local Brewery. The hotel however is average - our twin room was cramped and situated along what seemed a rabbit warren of corridors and double fire doors and difficult to manage with suitcases. Lift did not reach to our floor. The bathroom had a spa bath. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet and ok but I would suggest to get there for early breakfast rather than a late one if you want hot and edible food. Room rate was £80+ so not cheap, either. Not good value in my opinion. We usually stay in Premier Inns and avoid nasty surprises. One will be opening very soon in Oban and when we return to this beautiful area this is where we will be staying next time.

    3
    « Mixed »

On the upside Friendly staff Comfortable bar and lounge Nice room with comfy bed Fruit for breakfast was excellent - real fruit On the downside Long complicated route to the rooms - lots of twists turns and fire doors Very thin walls - could hear really clearly what was happening I the next room Dinner ok- but would choose to eat out

    3
    « Nothing special »

Only used this hotel as the Premier Inn hasn't yet been built! Friendly enough welcome. Room quite small and very hot. Good location on the promenade and an easy short walk into the town. Breakfast buffet was average - plates for hot food were cold. Expensive for what it is, and would certainly try somewhere else on a future visit.

Very friendly staff, clean room and lovely bubble bath. However the building has the noisiest elevator which was right through the wall from our room 45 and the walls between the rooms were paper thin so we could hear our neighbors TV as if we were watching it too!

    « Beautiful location! »

Had 1 night stay here visiting the area. We had a comfortable room with large bed and jacuzzi bath. Staff very friendly and helpful. Had a bar meal in the evening which was delicious. Located on sea front with just a short stroll to the town centre. It was a buffet breakfast in the morning which was slightly overlooked with sitting keeping warm. Pleasant stay and would return

« Waiting for the ferry »

We stayed here after travelling up from Edinburgh prior to catching the Hebridean ferry. The hotel was OK, but the bar ran out of all beers bar 1, the bannister post on the main stair was loose and very disconcerting, our towel rail heater had a leak. On the up side, the food was good, the hotel was warm and quiet, had a lovely evening in the bar with some of the locals, and a great view as the hotel is Lochside just outside the town centre. It is what it is for a Best Western Hotel.

    « A very comfortable hotel »

Having spent three days in Oban in very adverse weather conditions it was wonderful to have such a warm, cosy hotel. The rooms have easily controlled heating which you can adjust to suit your personal needs. The en suite had been newly refurbished with a jacuzzi and efficient shower. The heated towel rail was of great benefit as clothes were soaked after the shortest outing. The hotel's position on the Bay produces the most picturesque views from the traditionally furnished lounge and dining room. Breakfasts are continental or traditionally Scottish and the chef is delighted to prepare some tasty fish dishes.Oban's shops and amenities are all close at hand and well within walking distance.I can recommend this hotel, even in dreadful weather and look forward to visiting again in the sunshine.

« Wonderful stay, wonderful hotel »

We took a trip to Oban last year for St Patrick's day & had a brilliant time. The rooms were very clean, lots of channels to choose from on TV, free parking and ideal location. We both loved the jacuzzi bath it was very fancy & the staff were lovely. We plan on returning again this summer.

    5
    « Over night »

We only had an over night stay this time. We do plan to return to Oban for a break and would certainly choose to stay in this hotel. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and not over priced. The hotel is spotless clean throughout. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Wee break »

Stayed here between Christmas and New Year for a wee break away with our dog. We had a lovely room (Rm10) which had a small view of the sea front. There was everything you need in the room and it was clean and tidy. There was even a bed, 2 bowls and 2 bonio biscuits for our dog. A lovely touch I thought. The en suite was clean and it had a jacuzzi bath and power shower. We ate in the hotel restaurant both nights and the food was lovely; would recommend the steak pie or haddock. Breakfast was lovely too with a well stocked selection of cerals or full Scottish with bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, tattie scones, etc, etc. Would set anyone up for the day! There is also a breakfast menu where you could order specials like kippers or poached eggs. The lounge area has plenty seating and was welcoming and comfortable. Also an area where you could eat and have your dog with you. The staff were polite and very helpful. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again.

    « Scottish hospitality at it's best »

Currently Staying at Best Western Queen's hotel for Hogmanay and New Year. After a fantastic 4 course meal live entertainment was provided by Twist of Fate. This 5 piece band were fantastic playing an excellent mix of music to suit all tastes. Just after the Bells we were surprised with a magnificent buffet supplied by the hotel. The facilities in the hotel are excellent and every member of staff that we have met are very friendly and could not have been more helpful, even to the point that breakfast will be served until 12.30 on New Years Day. The rooms are spotlessly clean, very modern and very well appointed - we would definately recommend this hotel and look forward to returning on our next visit to Oban.

We were booked in for the end of the Winter Festival and a wee pre Birthday treat for me, stayed previously and even the horrendous weather didn't take away from the stay. Said it before but get the room with the the view, totaly worth it. Staff are brilliant, remember us and it's like going back to a friendly place. Grand!

« One star missing as is Nessy »

It wasn't the charming Scotish arcitecture of eld that was lacking at this 4 star Best Western Inn, in Obane Scotland. This U.S. Highway brand hotel is unable to shake of the public pit stop mentality even tin the U.K. 1) I was ensured-room Internet. I opted for one of the 6 to 8 ,not partial, but sea side views. Never was I informed that the internet for these rooms was non existent. I queried about issues with the Internet in my suite. I was told that it works best in the back rooms, without having no view or in the lobby. 2. Lack of general service for 130 pounds a night. Unable to call down stairs and receive prompt replies, about Internet over the ph, selection of pillows advertised in the hotel guide. Our suite had no refrigeration, so we were forced to hang a Christmas bag out the window. This prompted a response from management asking us to remove the bag. Gladly. So we we requested common accessory to a hotel room, rich or poor, an ice bucket. 3) Third and finally. I had been recovering from malaria from recent time spent in Africa. I ordered my wife Haddock at the downstairs restaurant, I ordered King prawns that looked as if the had come off the Costco, Walmart, etc. menu I'd had proper prawns the previous evening, and did not feel inclined to save my finger stink as I would a 15 year old juvenile as proof after an encounter with Mrs. Robison. Sure enough. 5 minutes after sending them back the resturant manager was agreeing with his cooks, smelling my finger nod trying to agree to disagree with me. Find a better place to spend your pound.

    « Fantastic Hotel »

My Husband & I stayed here for just 1 night, but will definitely be returning for longer. We really enjoyed our stay here. Hotel is really clean & welcoming and our room was lovely & warm. We had a Jacuzzi in our room (43) and we had a lovely view from our room. The breakfast which is a buffet style self service, there is plenty to choose from and you won't be disappointed. Would definitely recommend you choose this hotel as we will be back soon.

    « Very nice stay. »

Easy to find overlooking the bay. Nice walk into town where all the usual amenities you would expect are available, shops, restaurants, banks etc. The hotel was fine, checking in was easy and hassle free. The room was in the block to the rear of the main building and was clean and the heating was available if required. Breakfast was served in the dining room overlooking the water at the front of the building. This was fine, plenty of choice and was buffet style, help yourself though there was the choice of other items prepared to order if preferred. Free wifi worked perfectly well and no problems experienced. Would stay here again if in the area. Did not use the restaurant for dinner as too much choice outside. Fifteen minute walk to the ferry terminal for visits to neighbouring islands.

    « High quality hotel. »

Magnificent welcome at the reception. I was made to feel more like family than a guest. The hotel is very comfortable throughout. The bar, dining areas and the rooms are all very well presented. Staff are all very pleasant and talkative, which helps greatly when working away from family. Thank you for a very warm pleasant stay.

« will you have time to use the jacuzzi bath? »

excellent location site - within Oban . technical achievement of a 4 star rating thanks to excellent bathrooms and heated towel rails ? plus fancy jacuzzi baths.. poor bathroom extraction systems lead to warning about keeping door shut so as not to set off fire alarm and risk fine for misuse!! exemplary cleanliness throughout hotel .. furniture style dated in public areas had to have early breakfast ..capably brought together by very helpful night porter... quality of ingredients for continental breakfast should be improved away from commodity style preserves etc etc good value for money ..

    « ONE OF OBAN'S BEST HOTELS »

I have stayed in a few places in Oban over the past few weeks. I wish I had stayed in the Best Western first as I would not have booked anywhere else! Everything was excellent, great value for money, lovely staff and amazing food. Well done, I will be back..

    « Definitely not a 4* hotel...... »

Waited 10mins on arrival for anyone to appear at reception to check us in. Room little better than a chain budget property. Decor and standard of rooms poor as were toiletries. Ate out but on arriving back at 10:40 barman had already cleared most spirit bottles from bar. Breakfast very poor -on being seated we were told everything was available from the buffet. Not true - several items e.g. Kippers were available to order. No-one asked if we wanted to order anything. Jam/marmalade etc very poor quality portion packs. Not homemade as they should be in a hotel like this. Not good value - won't be back.

    « Golf weekend »

Stayed at the best western with another couple with a golf game planned at the nearby golf course, great hotel staff first class , rooms fine for a place to rest your head. Breakfast was a life saver after a night out in the town . I would recommend this no frills hotel.

    « Sad and sadder »

We stayed here for one night before catching the Ferry to the islands. It was a huge disappointment. Although it is situated on the Promenade, the rooms we had booked were tiny, both with black damp patches on parts of the walls. One of our rooms was so bad that one of us asked to be moved to another room, which was still the same size but didn't have dampness showing through the wallpaper. The carpets were none too clean and one of us found a pair of men's underpants in one of the drawers. The dinner menu was fairly standard with only one vegetarian choice so we ate out. The whole building looked neglected and sad and although the staff were friendly, we found our stay to be less than comfortable. We couldn't wait to leave in the morning. This hotel needs a complete make-over and and does not do Oban, a lovely wee place, proud.

« Lovely position and great breakfast »

I stayed at this hotel with my dog for four nights recently. The position is lovely, on the esplanade over looking the bay, and only a short level walk from Oban. The breakfast was one of the best I have ever had - my compliments to the chef! The only problem was that because I was traveling alone with my dog, I had a single room which was extremely small, particularly when I had a retriever with me, for which I had paid 15.00 per night to stay there. There was insufficient storage - the small hanging area could hold about four items, and the only drawers were part of a writing desk. It would be a god idea to get rid of the desk - as there is not sufficient room to sit at it anyway, and replace it with a small chest of drawers facing across the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and if my room had been better, I would have given a better rating.

    « Overnight stop »

Had stayed here a couple of years ago on business so booked it again. Booked single bedded room £56 B&B. Room quite small but we'll equipped. Bedding, towels all fresh and clean. Bathroom very clean and bright large shower tray and good shower. I ate in the bar from The bar and grill menu, Scallops and stornoway black pudding was excellent. Aberdeen Angus burger hand cut chips and mixed leaves was OK had better burgers at the same price at other hotels. WIFI in the lounge is strong and reasonable fast. Breakfast was very good excellent choice of items from the hot buffet with 3 fish dishes available cooked to order. Overall a pleasant experience. Would recommend.

    « Clean and friendly »

Spent three nights at the hotel.Nice location, great views from Bay window, wee bit pricey for what you get, friendly staff, breakfast was ok .....toast and tea could have been warmer and sausages on the Saturday were slightly off as confirmed by other hotel guests but there was plenty of other choice there. Room was clean and enjoyed the extras of Irn bru, caramel wafers and fruit. All in all had a good weekend.

    « Hotel with a View »

We stayed at he hotel using B/W points but for the number of points we used compared to others hotels I have used them for it was "expensive" (32,000 pts) the costs of dogs staying is also high at £15 each per night - although there was a dog bed each and a few biscuits provided. The general decor of the hotel overall gave the impression of being "old". The hotel car park is quite small. The breakfast was fine and the evening meal was good quality.

« Lovely, friendly staff and great room »

I stayed here for 2 nights for work, really good service from all the staff , very friendly and helpful, lovely double room, spacious and brilliant bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, brilliant after a hard day at work definitely recommend using it , everything was spotless and the room had everything I needed for a great stay , breakfast was wonderful, tea , toast and plenty of cereals, fruit, and juices, also well cooked buffet style cooked breakfast was great as you could pick just what you wanted, had a few drinks in the bar in the evening the barman was extremely welcoming and great to chat to, would recommend this hotel as its a nice location just out of the town centre 10/15 nice walk along the esplanade with great views.

« Lovely hotel let down by poor internet »

This is the third time I have stayed here. The position of the hotel is great, the staff are always excellent and there are enough of them. The hotel is a 5 minute walk along the prom to the centre of Oban or a 5 minute drive to the ferry port. There is plenty of parking outside the hotel. The rooms are very nice, most with good views of Mull and the bay. They are a good size and nicely furnished. The constant gripe is the internet speed, it is still frustratingly slow.

    « Good Family Hotel »

Our family of 6 adults and a nearly 4 year old child had an very pleasant stay at The Queens Hotel. In particular the restaurant staff service was excellent. The rooms were clean and comfortable. However it was difficult moving in and out as there was no lift. Off street parking was limited and cramped.

« VERY GOOD HOTEL & LOCATION -FRIENDLY STAFF »

First of all I must be the last to know this but if you are a member of the Best Western Rewards Scheme don't book via Booking.com if you want to qualify for the points. We booked 4 nights at this hotel thinking we would get the points but zero! If you want the reward scheme to kick in then book direct with the hotel or via the Best Western site. This said when we arrived at the hotel we were given a very warm welcome by friendly reception staff. The car park is small but we ensured that we overcame this by getting there just after checking in time. We were late booking so the best rooms were unavailable but we still managed a room with a partial sea view. The room was comfortable as was the generous sized double bed. The bathroom was compact but modern and with a lovely shower. Overall the room was in a quiet location but you could clearly hear the noise from guests in the room above. Wi fi was not available in the room but could be accessed in the lounge/dining areas. We were lucky with the weather and Oban is a beautiful place. The sunsets were a sight to behold with a backdrop of mountains and water. At sunset there were cameras every where and if I had a pound for every time I heard the word 'stunning' mentioned I would be quite rich! Having travelled over 429 miles by car to reach Oban we were reminded just how beautiful Scotland is. By car Oban is in reach of Fort William and Ben Nevis. Inverary is another nearby coastal town to be visited. However, if you don't have your own transport then Oban has enough to keep you occupied. From the hotel you can walk along the water front (about 10-15 minutes max with great views) and into the town. There are numerous very good fish restaurants to choose from and a selection of shops. Oban also has a large Tesco supermarket. If you like boat trips then you can visit the nearby seal colonies or else take the excellent ferry to the isle of Mull. For under £10 each you can take the 2 hour trip to Mull, stay on board and come back. This trip offers great views of the mountain ranges and is to be recommended. Breakfasts at the Queens were first class and again the staff in attendance were very friendly and accommodating. If you don't want a full English breakfast then for no additional cost you can opt for scrambled or poached egg and salmon! Yes the car park is small but the staff will do their best to squeeze you in. There is parking on the road outside but this is something we did not have to resort to. Overall we had a very good experience at this Hotel and of Scotland and Oban in general - making our 7 hour drive well worth the time and effort. We would have no hesitation at all in returning to the Queens. Wayne & Jacky

    « Absolutely fabulous! »

Booked into The Queens 16th-18th October. Susan, Peter, Rob and the team made our visit very special with their great service and good humour! Room was to die for! The hotel is clean and very comfortable! The size of the bed in our room was amazing and we slept like babies. Breakfast was both plentiful and a joy to eat! A great place to stay and we will defiantly be back! Thanks everyone! It's a credit to you Susan. Oh and Rob.. Thanks for getting me into Singleton whisky! Gonna need shares in it lol

    « Lovely rooms »

Really nice rooms in this hotel. Immaculate, nicely decorated, warm, comfy bed. The bathrooms are really nice also, with a jacuzzi bath, nice taps and what looks like fresh tiling. My room however backed onto the lift, which is old and noisy. The receptionist was very kind to move me to another room despite it being late at night. The free wifi in the second room (third floor) was much better than on the 4th. Was leaving early, before breakfast but the night porter was fantastic and not only did I have access to the cold buffet, he made me toast and warmed some pastries for me too. Top guy!

    3
    « Nice »

Quiet, nicely situated and staffed well, The Queens Hotel may be overpriced but it will give a visitor to the quaint seaside town of Oban everything they will need, and its restaurant tastes great. WARNING: Twin rooms do not have seaside views, and it was probably more our fault than the hotel itself, but we were in the belief that we were going to get a sublime sea view, and the back of the front of the hotel was not what we were expecting. The room was nice though. Overall, this is a nice little place. Overpriced, but nice. The staff were all sweet, even if they all had hard-to-understand various European accents.

    « Nice »

Nice hotel, Good food Great staff wifi does not work-so not the best place to go on a bussiness trip! Rooms clean and jacuzzi bath was lovely. I struggled to sleep a few nights because of noisy dog in room above!!

« A few niggles but generally very good »

Stayed for one night before heading to Mull. The hotel is in a great location and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Now the niggles! I opted for a sea view, and the room we had did indeed face the sea. But in the morning the window was totally misted up (between the double-glazed panes)' so on a glorious morning we didn't get our sea view! The details said there was wifi in all rooms, but, for whatever reason, we didn't get wifi in our room. The hotel only has a few parking bays in its car park, so you may have to park up the road, as we did. No great problem, but just something to be aware of if you're going to turn on a wet and windy evening!!

    « Anniversary Treat »

Good looking hotel with free parking and great views of the bay from our comfortable bedroom (room 5). Very helpful staff, excellent quiet location only 10 minute walk from the town centre. We'd be very happy to stay again.

    3
    « Functional »

A rather old fashioned hotel, last decorated around the late 80's. Room clean and functional, noisy due to generator nearby. Breakfast adequate but not great. Over priced for the facilities available but great views over Oban bay. Staff had been rude to a fellow guest but were pleasant enough. Carpet in the lift?

    « A nice surprise »

We stayed one night recently as group of four. We booked this hotel as we were traveling with a dog and the hotel were happy to add him to our booking for a nominal fee. Having read the reviews we were not sure what to expect but we were really happy with the rooms and service for the cost. Would definelty visit again and a great hotel for those traveling with dogs.

« Was OK but not quite what we expected. »

This is on the foreshore in Oban, and about 10 minutes walk to downtown. Checkin was OK - not very friendly but OK by local standards. What the picture does not show that the motel is mainly in a building that is behind the older white building..as mentioned by others you have a climb a few flights of stairs and go through about 5 doors to get to the room. The room was OK for a mid-level motel - the bed was comfortable. We could hear the people above walking around on the ceiling - fortunately they went to bed around the same time we did. Breakfast was good, and we had a good feed before we left. Wifi in our room was basically non-functional, but was better elsewhere in the buildings, and I was able to go to the bar to check on that.

    3
    « Nothing Special »

We stayed two nights here on our trip through Scotland. The room was basic - hotel was basic. Nothing special. Nothing really wrong with it - I just wished we had stayed some place a little closer into the main town area. Would not recommend to a friend if they were traveling through the same area.

« Not quite fit for a queen »

I will admit that our booking experience did not get off to best of starts. My usual practice is to find the best online rate and then phone the hotel to book directly. In this case however front of house just told me to book online and put the phone down in my ear. Never mind we booked online and got a much better deal than going direct. The room itself was nice with a limited view of the bay. Two things to note the Wifi did not work in the rooms which meant I was answering work emails over breakfast (where it did) which did not impress my wife. Also the hotel has limited parking and the only way to park our car was by performing a series of moves normally only done by a ballerina. Still it is pleasantly located and walking distance of the Town and the breakfast was not bad. Don't think I would book there again though.

    « Pleasant stay »

First time visiting Oban and we stayed in this hotel for two nights last weekend. Parking is limited but we managed to find a space on the promenade. The hotel itself is really nice, our room was in the top floor of the extension at the rear. The room had a nice view of the water, especially at night! Oh and the Jacuzzi bath is a nice touch (and worth taking advantage of!) Breakfast was delicious, there's a buffet so you help yourself to whatever you want. Staff are always on hand to offer tea, coffee, toast, etc. :-) The lift was fun to use, I love the warning sign. Overall it was a really pleasant stay and I look forward to staying with you again. Ps visit Oban if you haven't been, it's lovely!

« Very good hotel in a good location »

I stayed here at the very last minute, and was quickly checked in by professional night staff on duty. Room small, but comfortable, everything worked, and I slept well. Breakfast was very good, one of the better breakfast buffets I have seen in a while, with plenty of fresh healthy options, which I like see. The hotel has atmosphere and was clearly busy, which is nice to see, something I don't often see these days. I will be back.

    3
    « two extremes »

We stayed here in the summer, using two rooms. My wife and I had a very nice, but expensive, double room, which was quite adequate and had a great view into the harbour. However, our daughter had a single room that was quite awful in so many respects. Overall the hotel seemed rather dated in appearance. The staff were generally very friendly. Breakfast was fine, with a good range of food, with some cooked to order. Parking was virtually always a problem with limited spaces in the car park and little on road parking nearby. When the car park was full, the alternative is to use a church car park that is quite a walk away and is dark and secluded at night. Overall, not great, and we would look elsewhere next time we stayed in Oban.

    « Great Stay »

Booked a couple of nights on line. Hassle free booking. Upon arrival the reception was dealing with a group but a member of staff invited us to sit in the lounge until they could register us; a nice touch. First impressions were good as I usually rate accommodation on how well hoovered the carpets are. When signed in we were directed to our executive room on the first floor. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The huge bed was particularly comfortable. The evening meals were very good with speedy service. The buffet style breakfast was excellent. Additional items were available on request. Very pleasant staff. Only down side was the lack of wifi in the room although it was acceptable in the reception/lounge area. Oban in general seems to be a poor reception area for internet. Excellent stay. Would not hesitate in using this hotel again.
