"Cold shower, old towels and smelly room"
Smarty0nline, 29 Novembre 2024

I booked one of the small rooms just for a night with a work Christmas party. Paid around £80 for b&b. Looked lovely enough. My room had that ‘wet dog in a tent' smell about it which was surprising. Still I only really needed a bed for the night. Towels were bordering on a yellowy beige they were clearly that old. Came in and decided to have a shower before bed. Luke warm shower !! Got up, tried shower again. Luke warm again. Brilliant. Breakfast was pretty good to be fair. Would I stay here again. Probably no. All you really need is a clean room and decent clean shower and I didn't get that.

"A fantastic hotel in the middle of the city centre!"
shaniabrown10, 23 Novembre 2024

This hotel was one of the best I've stayed in. The staff were all friendly and accommodating, from check-in to check-out, the staff were all amazing. The hotel was peaceful, the decor is luxurious and the room was so clean and comfortable. The only fault we had was the breakfast buffet - there wasn't many vegetarian options on the hot buffet table and the restocking was slow, meaning you either had to wait or go without what you wanted. Although, I would still absolutely recommend this place!

"Not a great experience"
Lardie, 19 Novembre 2024

Tatty room. Tired looking communal areas. Staff engaged looking at their phones…. When could have been serving guests. Food sent back as not cooked. Main course not even served with salsa described in the menu. Would not come back. Would not recommend

"Good but not brilliant"
whittyuk, 19 Novembre 2024

I come to Nottingham a lot. I'm a lover of heavy rock music and Nottingham has a lot of great venues around the city. I've used a lot of different hotel chains and independents. Most have their ups and downs. My first stay here a few weeks ago was brilliant. I would give it a five star review. A nice hotel in easy reach of all the city centre amenities. I had another show booked in Nottingham last night. So again I chose this little gem of a hotel. It wasn't awful at all. It was OK. Apart from 2 things. My bed had springs showing through the mattress. I felt a stabbing pain in my leg throughout the night and couldn't figure out what it was until I woke up properly to find a sharp peice of wire had been stabbing me. The other thing is rotting pigeons outside of the window. It was explained to me that there is nothing thar can be done about this. Which I accept. But that doesn't make it any more palletable. I was offered free breakfast which was OK. I would have expected to have been offered a free room on another night but that wasn't forthcoming. I had a train to catch so didn't have time to talk this through with anybody. I believe the manager is in receipt of an email from me so I'm hoping to hear back shortly on his/ her findings

"Clean, central and quiet"
gkfld, 17 Novembre 2024

Friendly and central hotel next to Nottingham Castle. Had the smallest room, but did not feel cramped - they even managed to fit in an ironing board as an amenity. Spotless clean, good bed and very quiet at night. Breakfast was good, with a nice mix of cold dishes and what-we-think-the-brits-eat-for-breakfast. Good coffee. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable - highly recommended.

"Excellent bar service"
Dylan D, 28 Octobre 2024

I recently stayed at St James and one of the highlights of the experience was definitely the bar, thanks to Max and Millie. Max, the barman, went above and beyond to make every evening enjoyable, greeting each guest with a warm smile and creating a lively, welcoming atmosphere. His knowledge of drinks was impressive—whether you wanted a classic cocktail or something new, he'd make it to perfection. Max took the time to remember guests' preferences, which added such a personal touch. Millie being the newest barmaid had excellent knowledge also and was extremely welcoming can imagine she will make a great addition to the team.

"Thank you for a nice stay"
Tanja S, 28 Octobre 2024

I traveled here for a concert visit and I arrived early in the morning. Luckily I could book an early check in and my room was already ready for me. The staff was really kind and the Wi-Fi in my room worked perfectly. The room was comfortable and clean.

"Nice hotel, ideal location"
71Snoopy, 27 Octobre 2024

Hotel ideally located for City Centre stay. Had a free glass of Prosecco each as celebrating husband's birthday which was a nice touch. Booked two rooms and found out the following day upon leaving, that our sons had been upgraded but disappointed that the other, which was the lead booking, hadn't. Our room was the smallest with very little space to move down the side of the double bed. The toilet seat wouldn't stay up either, the shower had very little power in it and the bath was tiny. The bathroom was clean but dated. The room itself was clean, the bed was comfy and the towels huge. Reception staff very friendly. Bar area very nice too. Would stay again but would stay in a bigger room. The upgraded room was much bigger with king size bed and larger bathroom. Just a shame we didn't get that as well as my Son! If you're going to upgrade, please think about upgrading all rooms.

"Ok stay"
Jane W, 27 Octobre 2024

Beautiful reception area and stylish restaurant and bar. Rooms a little care worn and could do with a makeover however comfortable enough. Breakfast is very good however whilst evening meals are extremely good value on 2 separate occasions I ordered steak and on both occasions were really not good at all, front of house staff lovely and welcoming.

"Desperate for some proper management attention "
craftyBison, 22 Octobre 2024

A sad, unloved little hotel. Nothing has been put together with any care: the toilet seat is too big for the bathroom configuration, so can't be opened fully; the taps have been installed backwards, so cold means hot, and nobody's bothered to correct it; the breakfast staff chat loudly and obnoxiously about whether they can be bothered to replenish the ham, one laughing at the other incredulously when she decides actually to do it. It's hot and stuffy, with no air control in the rooms other than the windows; it's noisy, with both external and internal noise (thin walls) challenging lighter sleepers. About the only thing this hotel has going for it is that it's usually cheap. But avoid it, if you can.

"Tired "
adrianpG2045EK, 05 Octobre 2024

Centrally located hotel in the city and next to Nottingham castle with NCP parking next to the hotel prices over night are £16 approx £15 and pence nearer 16. The ground car park also NCP adjacent to the hotel under the the other NCP it's also the same price obviously the only difference is you have to manually enter registration and length of stay. I would pre book parking with the hotel on booking. The hotel is a little tired the lifts doors are slow (probably need a service) due to a late arrival we were allocated room 101. This room was situated on the first floor with a small window overlooking the entrances to the carparks. The window is curtained with small heavy curtains probably the reason for this is the horrendous draft from the window. The units in the bedroom were old and painted grey which was wearing thin on the edges. The bathroom shower power was inadequate for as shower we'd have more water from a dripping tap. The shower was over a high bath with no grab rail or step for easy access. The paint on the bathroom ceiling was flaking and there were silver fish on the floor and there was black mould on bath sealant. Whilst trying to sleep, we prevented by a loud grinding noise at the rear of the bed against the wall, which turned be the lift cables as lift was behind the bed wall. We ended up putting on a room fan for white noise to drowned out the noise although it didn't work completely. Every time the room above flushed the toilet there was a constant dripping water sound from the wall separating the bathroom. However there were sufficient hot drinks water sparkling and still and white company toiletries and hair dryer. The bed was very comfortable and bedding was clean. In the morning complaints were made at reception and the male receptionist was very polite and didn't hesitate in changing our room on the third floor. Although a lager room the shower and bath situation was the same and it was still tired looking.

"First time stay"
DiamondFlair, 05 Octobre 2024

Well decorated, clean room with little extra touches (sleep mist), teacoffed facilities and water. Was a bit noisy (Saturday night). Someone had blocked their parking facilities, best to park at NCP which offer 24 hour rate. Breakfast was good. Bar and lounge cosy.

"Nice hotel but cleaning issues"
davidfD9161ZT, 27 Septembre 2024

Stayed here overnight for work purposes. Upon Entering the hotel it appears very nice with lovely lighting. Smooth check in but on entering my room found another key card already in situ which turned the lights etc on. The room albeit small was very nice and had everything I needed, tea, coffee, iron (no hairdryer but I had brought my own ), plenty of plug sockets but unfortunately when I went to use the toilet it was in a disgraceful state and had clearly not been cleaned , faeces splattered all over the inside of the toilet. When I went downstairs about an hour later I looked for somebody to report this to but nobody in reception. when I returned to the hotel after having a meal out still nobody in reception so had to report this the next morning. Staff member did apologise but only took my room number down when I also advised the remote controls for the TV needed new batteries. I do think it was a nice hotel and the breakfast was very nice despite there being no fried eggs as they had not been not replenished but they need to address the cleaning. A colleague of mine also advised their room could have been cleaned to a higher standard, dusty and bin not emptied. Good value for the price paid but not sure we would stay here again.

"Great location"
Hmmmmchocolate, 22 Septembre 2024

Positives include: the location - 15 minute walk from train station (up hill tho!) amd right by the castle, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem and some lovely places to meet friends; staff are friendly; Hotel is clean; Breakfast is generous and tasty Negatives include: Bed is not comfortable and pillows are flat with no spares in the cupboard unlike other hotels; Room is dated and ours only appeared to be 'executive' because there was a small hard sofa and IKEA table tucked in the corner; One working lift that is slow: Breakfast was a free for all - no member of staff to check you had paid or to take you to a table (they all looked very busy); Bathroom needed some tlc - a thorough dust, a new bath mat, practical location of toilet roll holders and toilet for starters.... We had an OK stay - wouldn't call it VFM but it was clean and safe and the breakfast pasties were lush. Would probs look at a premier inn next time for the price as their beds are always comfy.

"Lovely hotel, great breakfast, clean rooms"
Helen W, 01 Septembre 2024

Had an impromptu stay here as our previous hotel had been cancelled and booking.com hadn't told us. We found this hotel (NOT through booking.com!) and it was lovely. Rooms were clean, beds were comfy. Pillows could have been a bit nicer and the bathroom could do with updating hence giving 4 stars and not 5 stars. Breakfast was extremely good. Would definitely stay here again.

"Best price to value in town !"
Robert L, 24 Août 2024

I came across this hotel when looking for a place to stay for 1 day, the entrance is splendid as well as the bar section that also serves as the dinning and breakfast room. Regrading the room, they were lovely, clean , quiet and comfortable. Lastly, the breakfast was excellent, typical english food and the staff was nice and professional.

"Friendly, clean and good location for Nottingham centre"
Richard A, 22 Août 2024

Hotel is smart, staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is at the next door NCP or their own car park a few hundred feet away (limited spaces and tight to turn so smaller cars only). Used the bar, didnt eat there but looked good. Room was small and 'castle like' window but was comfy and bathroom good. Right next to the castle which is magnificent.

"In need of some management input"
Mandy R, 02 Août 2024

Good position but some attention needed to ensure a more pleasant stay. Although the breakfast window was quite long, every day, they had run out of numerous items, despite us being there with still an hour or so left for other guests. We mentioned this to staff but it did not improve at all. On a towel change, I discovered lipstick marks all over the 'new' towel. However, housekeeping replaced it immediately and were very apologetic.

"Could do better"
platform, 26 Juillet 2024

We stayed because we were attending our grandsons graduation The entrance is a grand reception staff were good as were the cleaning staff The rooms are sad the bathrooms need updating but it was for one night we only used the room for sleep although at 5.30am we were woken by the bins being emptied so loud We came with family and after our meal in town wanted a drink The bar man really didn't want to serve us but reluctantly did after that he I disappeared to get another we had to go to reception for service In the morning we had invited more family to join us for breakfast there were 7 of us We ask for a large table but were told there were only tables for 4 So we pushed a few tables together the staff were not interested in helping us at all if anything the serving staff were rude The breakfast was very good the produce they used was excellent Sadly I wouldn't try again but there needs to some updating and some training for waiting staff

"Good location bad hotel"
Kayzee1209, 22 Juillet 2024

Overpriced hotel. At best this is a 2-3 star hotel beds are uncomfortable no AC or ventilation in the room. Corridors had paint flaking off with holes in the wall was very disappointing stay for a friends wedding location is central but everything else disappointed us

"Dark, soulless and safety issues"
Treacle2304, 21 Juillet 2024

The hotel is very tired and dated. Very dark decor and added to that padded lifts. The room was on the 6th floor and it meant small windows so not much natural light. The grey decor didn't help the room. In contrast the bathroom was white light and airy. Unfortunately when you flushed the loo the tissues were forced into the air. There was also an issue with the shower, in the evening the shower was poor but useable, come the morning it wasn't useable - it was barely a trickle. Another issue with the room was the security spy hole - you'd have to be at least 5ft 8in to use it. As a short female I wouldn't stay at this hotel as I wouldn't feel safe.

"Fantastic place"
Nigel C, 20 Juillet 2024

Fabulous hotel in a great location. Staff are great, lots of nearby restaurants and bars. Very friendly vibe and in walking distance to the station. Rooms are comfortable, free water, cream and biscuits, parking nearby if you need it. Good value for money.

"Awful stay !!"
Tracey0910, 19 Juillet 2024

I had tried to phone the hotel before our visit to book parking but was unable to get through. I sent various emails but had no reply. We arrived and they had not booked parking for us, however there was a carpark right next to the hotel. The Hotel is in a good location close to the town centre. The foyer is grand with huge statement lights and lavish décor, but when you get to the room that ends!! The bed was comfortable, and the bedding was nice, but the room was tired and the furniture was worn. The window was directly opposite the multi-storey car park and they would have been able to see right in our room if the windows weren't so filthy. The bathroom was really dated and tiny your knees almost touched the door when sat on the loo. There were parts missing from the taps and the shower curtain was so cheap and thin it kept sticking to you as you showered! The grout in the floor tiles was discoloured, the soap was used and stuck to the sink, which was cracked and didn't drain properly. We had no loo roll! -we did ask at reception, and they replenished it- The breakfast was awful. The bacon was only cooked on one side, was grey in colour and was like rubber, the sausages were barely cooked and were rock hard! The eggs looked ok but were swimming in oil. The beans and the bread were nice. The coffee was good, but the pastries were raw in places. We weren't expecting luxury, but we were expecting a clean room and a decent breakfast.

"Not premier rooms"
glensachabrighton, 14 Juillet 2024

Great location, just a 5 minute walk to town centre (market square) reception bar area and restaurant very nice, good breakfast with a good variety of food, rooms were a bit shabby for one of their premier collection hotels so a bit disappointed. Bedside unit door hanging off, silicone around bate cracked and around taps stained/dirty.

"Can't believe this is a Best Western Hotel?"
N6889LIstevej, 07 Juillet 2024

For a Best Western hotel, this was a MASSIVE let down!! The staff were good, the location is fantastic to be fair and the sausages were some of the best I have eaten, and so they should be for £13.50!! My room was tiny, which was ok because I was alone, the bed comfy. The toilet? It was so close to the wall in room 113 that not even a child could sit straight, you literally have to sit nearly facing the shower, utterly ridiculous! The walls are super thin I could hear my neighbour having a wee during the night. No aircon, that's right in a 2024 Best Western hotel, no air conditioning in the room! I had to open the window, this led to me being kept awake by either a. Partygoers or B. This incredibly high pitched noise coming from outside which made me believe I had tinnitus!! I thought the noise was in my head until I spoke to the reception lady who asked me how my stay was. When I explained this noise she laughed and said it was the car park next door!! Car parking was limited meaning you have to spend a fortune with NCP. The rooms were just old and grubby! I definitely won't be staying here again! I booked it on the basis it is a Best Western, but Jesus it needs some money spending on it?!

"Nice stay but could be better"
Kelly P, 23 Juin 2024

lovely reception and the decor of the hotel is lovely, but our room wasn't what I was expecting for Premier Collection. Bathroom had no towel rail or extractor so nowhere to hang wet towels and bathroom got very hot. The sink and bath took ages to drain and the doors on the hotels do not have slow closers on so every door slams! So you know when people are off to breakfast. Lift is noisy, so ask for a room away from the lift and our room had a fuse box with an audible buzz. They were very receptive to our comments on checkout, which was good, staff were lovely. Room itself was clean and very comfy, but as I've mentioned just a few improvements could make it really nice!

"Just ok"
Voyager03130425887, 23 Juin 2024

Location was good, close enough to walk into the town and plenty of bars & restaurants nearby. Sadly the rooms have no air conditioning so are sweltering. The receptionist did sort this for us and sent up a fan which worked fine. 1st night we left the window open as we hadn't yet got a fan but were woken up at 6 am by scaffolders below making an horrendous amount of noise. 2nd night we were kept awake by constant slamming of doors down the corridor! Not great at all. The hotel is just ok, rooms & bathrooms are small. We also found the constant wait at reception frustrating as no one is ever there, they're always hidden behind the wall & no bell to grab anyone's attention.

"Very poor value for money with a poor quality room"
jamesdower, 17 Juin 2024

We booked the St James Hotel as it purported to being a boutique style hotel and the pictures on the internet looked pretty good. Unfortunately, the double room was tiny and cramped, no air-conditioning and quite shabby - especially the bathroom. Certainly would not recommend this hotel.

"Wonderful Stay"
RoundySianaroo, 16 Juin 2024

We stayed at St James for our 10 year wedding anniversary. The location of the hotel is fantastic, and parking is next door. Check in was smooth, had all of our details to hand, and provided us with a complimentary glass of prosecco to toast our occasion which we took advantage of later on in the evening. Hotel is very unique, quiet and sophisticated. The rooms are weirdly decorated, and the bed is SO comfortable. We have no complaints, the staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really nice, plenty of choice and all self service. Thankyou for making our stay brilliant !

"AA"
AK1084, 14 Juin 2024

I've not had such good sleep in any hotel compared to this one…very comfortable beds and WiFi is super fast the receptionist is friendly and the breakfast is average (lacks variety) good over all experience - they have tried to give a very old building a boutique feel and got it right to 50%.

"Overnight stay"
darrenhutton23, 12 Juin 2024

4 of us stayed in St James Hotel, Nottingham on Thursday 6th June. So we could enjoy an evening at the Motorpoint Arena. Our stay was very pleasant. What made it even special, was when we given 4 vouchers from the receptionist, for a free drink at in the hotel bar, before we went out. The reception also gave us a 25% discount voucher to use in a nearby Indian restaurant, for after we came out of the concert. Both of these gestures made our stay extra special.

"Great location and people at the front desk"
Nora2012_12, 11 Juin 2024

Location can´t be better, a few steps from Nottingham castle and from mains attractions and restaurants. Also there is a covered car parking exactly by the hotel (very narrow entrance, so be careful if you are driving a huge SUV). Coralie and the australian guy at the front desk were super nice. She helped us with the public Transportation in the city, how to get to some places, googled working hours in some attractions and in the next day as soon as she saw me she asked me how was the day at the places she helped us to go – so she really paid attention to what she was saying and to whom, not the mechanical help like at some hotels. We would come back to St James when in Nottingham again.

"'Premier' Where?"
C3954XW, 11 Juin 2024

'Premier' Where? Dirty sheets, unclean bathroom, smelly, small, damp and a lot of things were broken such as the wardrobe door and toilet seat. They also do not confirm that the car park is a fair walk away down an alleyway commandeered by drunks, yet there is one straight outside if only you pay a different company.

"Lovely hotel"
Sb5679, 11 Juin 2024

Lovely hotel, clean and roomy. Rubbish view but not in the room long enough for it to make a difference. Friendly staff and clean communal areas. Great range of toiletries and tea coffee. Didnt have breakfast but the afternoon tea looked nice

"Nice hotel"
Anneure, 11 Juin 2024

Nice hotel, great location. Helpful staff. Right by the Castle and near bus routes. Quiet area for such a central location, but there was air conditioning noise throughout the hotel. The breakfast was self-service and was a lot of food that had been sitting out for hours so was not very fresh.

"Hard mattress"
jonesyalex, 03 Juin 2024

Stayed for 1 night. The mattress was rock hard. Couldn't sleep very well. The shower head kept dropping

"Lovely spot"
598traceyg, 27 Mai 2024

I booked a small double for overnight stay , room was adequate size for 1 person , bed was really comfy nicely decorated , and clean, toiletries in bathroom and sleep spray loved it , shower wasn't the best , the head was a sporadic but it was OK, booked again in sept for a party , can't wait Right near the train station walking distance , loads of great pubs and eateries

"Weekend away"
KS0197, 20 Mai 2024

I stayed here with a group of friends for one night in early March. We paid a very reasonable price for such a central hotel that has great access to Nottingham. The rooms were basic but clean and fine for a short stay. The dedicated parking garage was really useful as it meant we didn't have to hunt for it in the city - be sure to contact the hotel in advance as spaces are limited.

"Disappointed"
shintyandy, 15 Mai 2024

Didn't enjoy my stay. Very underwhelmed with my upgrade. Rooms feel very cheap and bathroom in desperate need of upgrade.

"Great find"
789AlanJ, 12 Mai 2024

What an excellent find. Everything about our 1 night stay was good, although room 115 not a very quiet one due to noise all night from external air conditioner. I guess we got this room because we used booking.com Certainly staying again though as its such a lovely hotel.

"4+ Star Quality and Highly Recommended"
S4268ANandrewp, 13 Avril 2024

Stayed for one night (pre-booked a while ago) 8th April. Pre-visit comms and parking help good. Booked an Executive King Size Room with sofa etc. Not easy to find without a satnav as not front of main road. Looks good from outside though no car parking at all. However, literally 20m from the NCP multi-storey carpark (£15.95 overnight). Reception small but very friendly. Very comfy seats that lead to the bar and eating area. Given two keycards. Lifts to all floors. Room was first class, very clean, plus had lots of good quality stuff from toiletries to tea, coffee, biccies, bathrobes, slippers etc. shame no fridge or minibar. Good quality throughout and lovely bathroom. View was rubbish over roof and low quality yards. No list or menu or room service etc but did have a hardback book on Nottingham. Had a drink in the bar at 10.15 after the show (Diversity) and we were the only ones (though it was a Monday night). A large red wine and a double brandy with Cola was £18 so not the cheapest, but well-known good brandy. Breakfast was really good quality. Good thick bacon and nice selection of hot food. Fruit juices were actually real fruit juices and coffee not cheap rubbish. Less of an offering if you're more of a continental person, but still cold meats, pastries, fruit etc. Good service. Defo stay again and ignore the 3 star rating - it might not have a 24 hour reception or a gym etc, but the fittings and decor are 4 Star Plus.

"Fab hotel in Nottingham."
LucyBCBarnwell, 07 Avril 2024

Fantastic location, great room and very clean. Just perfect for whatever wanted in terms of getting to a wedding. Parking right in your doorstep in a carpark which is great for a central city hotel. Welcoming and helpful staff. We would stay here again.

"Amazing afternoon tea"
Andie0074, 29 Mars 2024

Had an amazing afternoon tea, it was great fresh and the scones are the best we've had, it was perfect extremely tasty, it's my 3rd one and I'm sure there will be many more, its relaxing atmosphere and music and all the staff are very friendly and polite.

"Thank you"
Helen S, 16 Mars 2024

We were over joyed to spend the night in the penthouse for the night on a rare, childless night. And we loved it. The suite was spacious and contained everything you would need for a romantic, quite night away. All the staff that we speak to were friendly, professional and nothing was to much trouble for them. The breakfast was delish and had everything that you could ask for. We would definitely returning. Thank you St james for a lovely get-away.

"Average - just a place to stay"
BobDexter631, 11 Mars 2024

Its an average "budget" hotel, but not budget. Reception I saw manned once The lift is dark cramped and not a pleasant experience The hotel needs much TLC in the corridors The room is averagely fitted out but when we got there - cold, radiator not working Had to ask for a heater The room had an air con fixed at 18C - it clearly says that in the instructions despite what mangement said Avergage bathroom, cold, wonky toliet seat, an average shower Nosiy at night from outside and next door talkling at 2:30am Uncomfy pillows The breakfast is average powedered scrambled eggs and why on earth you cant get decent coffee is beyod me. Some veggie sausages without asking would be nice.Despite what manangement will say , the conveyor belt toaster wasnt set properly = get a proper toaster. )horrible stained chair) ( I notice table being wiped and all crumbs etc brushed ionto the floor) A short stroll to town but one or two undesirables on adjacent street The NCP car park is £££ An average hotel and overpriced at the £130 it was which is a days wage for most Unfortunately pretty standard for UK based hotels at the moment which really makes me want to avoid UK hotels Management suggested all my criticisms would be solved if I said so at the time. But I shoudnt have to sort these sort of things out - they should all be sorted before arrivals.

"Good location"
Fairing, 09 Mars 2024

Great location for being in the city centre Fair price for the rooms (we had two rooms for two nights) Be aware that the parking and breakfast is not included and adds up! Would prefer a price that is higher and includes everything - found pricing for breakfast very odd as we got charged more for not having confirmed numbers the night before? Even though we checked in late and we're not aware of this- it is not putting customers first However staff on bar were friendly and made some lovely cocktails

"A bit boujee for a very affordable price."
Oicarby99, 04 Mars 2024

I usually stay at a Travelodge or Premier Inn of the price is cheap enough as I find Prem Inn really good quality. When I booked St James, it was actually cheaper than TL and PI so I thought I would treat myself to something slightly different and as I would describe 'boujee.' I loved all the White Company extras in the bathroom and the sleep spray. The bed was extremely comfortable and spacious for one but would acceptable for a couple. The bedroom and bathroom is quite dinky but for a one night stay to explore Nottingham it did the job. I loved the grandeur of the hotel lobby but I found the miss match of the bedroom, less boujee and more slap dash- pastel blue and white wall painted accents, a red and brown chair and a royal blue and lime blind. So I would say rooms could do with a bit more blending of colour and matching. A lovely ceiling detail in the bedroom and some lovely features in the bathroom but I opted out of using the bath/ shower as it just felt like it need renovation (so I can't say if these things worked well but the marble detail in there could have been really majestic). Also the bath is quite small for someone who is tall. Probably the tiniest hotel bathroom I've been in and I've stayed in an EasyHotel in Croydon.. desperate times. Liked the full length mirror on the bathroom door but the smaller mirror could be moved so part of it isn't hidden behind the lovely TV. Blinds were great and put down straight away as had the view of the car park. Definite blackout for a good night sleep. Absolutely fine for a 1 nighter for exploring the city or going to an event but this place could really excel with some updates to the rooms but saying that this was a steal when some basic hotels cost you over £100. Also benefit is that it is quite close to everything.. train station, coach station, old market square. Also very good for last min bookings. No noise from rowdy hotel goers which I usually find with a Prem Inn or Travelodge. Thanks for a decent stay.

"Afternoon Tea"
DobbyDoesSocks, 24 Février 2024

I was gifted an afternoon tea, which expired at end of Feb. Although fully booked, the Ops Manager managed to fit us in last minute so we could use our voucher The sandwiches and cake were excellent - fresh, flavoursome and plenty of it! We didn't eat all the cake, the team parcelled up for us to take home Service was great, the team members were polite and friendly, efficient The only piece of constructive feedback is that the bar/seating area carpet needed a good hoover

"Always a pleasure"
funnello13, 23 Février 2024

This was my third stay at the St. James Hotel, and the first for my wife. Now she has seen it for herself she understands why it is now my hotel of choice when visiting Nottingham. Always a pleasure to stay in this hotel and would happily recommend to friends, and have done so.

"Not a hotel for the average English Tourist"
MrsSG1971, 22 Février 2024

We booked this holiday last year. Looked great on the photos. Definitely not a 4 or 5 star hotel. Very tired in places. Don't get me wrong the outside staff kept the place incredible clean, cannot be knocked for this. 9 swimming pools but only allowed to use front one as heated and closed by 4pm daily. Bedrooms tired but Sayeed want an amazing cleaner everyday he made us special features out of the towels. Night entertainment 3 times a week, not the best. Daytime entertainment looked a bit of an effort even for the staff. Locks on bedroom doors broken, so not secure. You get bothered and harassed daily by George from the spa wanting you to make bookings. We are on Holiday let us chill out we work hard all year for our money too! The food and drinks package poor, unless you like liver, chicken legs or kofta. Same food delivered breakfast lunch and dinner. Drinks were hilarious, a thimble of beer, red or white wine, orange or pineapple juice, but you have to pay for cocktails and seafood and Italian menu which was incredibly expensive. Had to buy jam from shop next door to make toast, crisps to make roll for lunch. I even had to request if I could have a banana for breakfast, as couldn't eat the food on offer due to having crohns. There are no ingredient lists given food items. The snack bar was not open for 5 days until the Egyptian holiday period and it became manic and aggressive. People not queueing. The waterslides also didn't open for 5days until the Egyptian holiday period. We ate out 6 nights of 10, cheaper to go to Hurgada Marina for classy food and atmosphere. About £2 in a taxi, it is 20-25 minutes away but worth it. This is not a hotel I would recommend to any English Tourists. It caters for German, Chinese and Egyptian. Disappointed as many other English tourists we met on trips had brilliant experiences to share. The best highlight of this hotel was when a fire broke out and everyone was ushered to lower restaurant, looked like an air raid shelter. My recommendations would be to either go room only in Hurgada or find a hotel that cater for everyone.

"Sports in Nottingham"
clarkep69, 11 Février 2024

I do not often get a chance to travel to Nottingham to participate in squash tournaments. However, when I do I always try to book in at St James Hotel. It is located 10 minutes walk from the Squash club. The Hotel staff are always welcoming, polite, helpful and friendly. I have always enjoyed my stay as the room is always clean, tidy with a lovely shower and a comfortable bed. Breakfast is in a lovely clean restaurant. Cooked breakfast is always non - greasy and the staff are willing to provide the type of food you want e.g. poached or scramble eggs. The coffee is not bitter and the continental style breakfast is always welcome. I hope to travel to Nottingham in May/June and would not hesitate to book this Hotel again. As a solo traveller, I feel very safe in the Hotel.

"Tired hotel, good location"
billyridley, 10 Février 2024

I stayed here whilst away with work and stumbled across it. It's in a quiet place but very central for the city. Unfortunately, even the executive room that I had was pretty poor, very dated, small shower room and poor lighting. My room faced onto other buildings so as soon as you open your curtains, you could be looked at. To be fair, it was quite cheap but I'm glad it was as I wasn't overwhelmed. The breakfast was served in the bar area and is self service, it was ok, was happy enough with that. The bar ran out of Malbec, bizarre and a shame too. I wouldn't go back, purely because it's so tired.

"Just ok"
Jackie O, 17 Janvier 2024

I have stayed here before but the hotel is looking very tired. Chipped paintwork everywhere in the bedroom. Bed clean and comfortable but service everywhere mediocre. I didn't have breakfast as it was awful last time.

"Great value city centre stay"
SimonB1980, 31 Décembre 2023

I only booked a few days before my stay as I was visiting friends in the area and needed somewhere Central to stay. I had already checked in online, but the man who met me on Reception, Oscar, was very friendly and efficient, despite being short-staffed that evening. I was straight out to meet friends so didn't really spend any time in the hotel. There was a large desk, and the Wi-Fi was fast, and reliable. Everything was spotlessly clean. The bed was a bit soft for me, but to be honest, I was very drunk and don't even remember getting in! I had booked a crash Pad room which was still generously sized. A free breakfast came with my booking, but although I was up and about that morning I didn't fancy eating unfortunately. Parking is available on site if pre-booked, but I just parked in the NCP next door, which was £10 for 24 hours if you use the NCP app on your phone. All in all, a great value city centre stay.

"Nice hotel, but terrible reception staff"
MGS555, 19 Décembre 2023

This hotel is completely let down by their reception staff. Whilst the room I stayed in was nice and the hotel looks good, the attitude of the receptionists is unbelievable. I had pre-booked parking, but had trouble getting to the car park due to someone parking in front of the entrance. I explained to the receptionist that this was why it took me a while to walk back to the hotel at check-in, the receptionist was only concerned that she wouldn't be able to charge me for parking if I hadn't parked in their car park (it's very tight, so I strongly suggest parking in the NCP car park next door). I wasn't too worried about how the receptionist handled this, as her colleague in the morning brought rudeness to a completely different level... At 4:15am the hotel fire alarm went off, so I got out through the fire escape along with two other guests and waited while the other guests came out and we waited for the fire brigade. The fire brigade didn't seem at all concerned... fortunately there was no fire, just a false alarm or a fire evacuation drill. When I checked out in the morning, the receptionist made no mention of the fire alarm so I asked if it was a regular occurrence....the man at reception became very shirty and almost aggressive, especially when I suggested that in future, an apology would be welcomed...I turned around and left to the sound of him ranting about fire alarms going off when the need to. The receptionists seriously need training in customer service at this hotel, as they blight what would otherwise be a nice hotel

"A good all round hotel for a town centre stay"
FionaEssex, 10 Décembre 2023

Well situated, nice room and pleasant staff. Personally whilst we would stay there again we wouldn't use the hotel underground car park. A daunting thought to have to drive down a ‘no entry' street and the car park itself relies on you knowing your car to navigate the various concrete posts. All a bit of a stress, however it was more secure and cheaper. Lovely touch to have White Company bathroom products together with a Nespresso machine. A really good sized room for a reasonable price. On this occasion booked room only. .

"Comfortable bed lacklustre experience"
Deena G, 07 Décembre 2023

Entering via what feels like an alley the event of staying here feels dreary. The bed in my room was comfortable though and the room was quiet affording a good nights sleep. a bog standard cooked breakfast buffet was tolerable because the shower was great.

"Great stay"
vickysW2870FD, 30 Septembre 2023

We stayed for one night on the 29th September in a double room. The hotel is close to the castle and a 5 minute walk to town. The hotel room was lovely, had everything we needed. We booked breakfast and this was brilliant, the choice was fantastic, they even do smoothies. I will return to this hotel when next in Nottingham.

"Awful. Unsympathetic. Horrible Customer Service"
Darren M, 26 Septembre 2023

I made a booking for this hotel, a one night stay for a business meeting. Unfortunately, on the day I was due to stay, a train strike was announced which meant that I could no longer travel to the meeting and stay at the hotel. Upon contacting them to cancel and arrange a refund, the hotel told me that the booking was not allowed to be cancelled due to their cancellation policy and they would not process a refund. They did offer to transfer the reservation to another person's name, which was obviously useless to me. The only reason I needed to cancel was due to the train strike, no fault of my own, but this greedy, unpleasant, unsympathetic, horrible hotel decided that their “cancellation policy” was more important than the satisfaction of a customer who uses the Best Western brand all over the country. My recommendation w be to avoid using this hotel, unless you are prepared to be ripped off.

"Quirky"
Duncan M, 21 Septembre 2023

Stayed one night in a single room. The room was very small, which was fine for one person. The room was grubby. Bathroom could have been cleaner. So much so I was reluctant to use the glass to drink water. The decor of the corridor's was dark, deep purples and black. The lift was dark and black. Quirky and not my idea of welcoming. The staff were friendly. The location is great. Pre booked parking was availabke. Buffet breakfast was nice . This hotel is not for me , Perhaps is for others.

"Very small room, decor poor needs refit, no air con"
charlotteaccounts, 12 Septembre 2023

Poor hotel, rooms tiny, very tired decor, windows don't open, and very hot parking in NCP, location is good as near castle but wouldn't stay again lots of stag and hen nights, breakfast expensive but Costa nearby and done nice pubs and restaurants

"The worst dirty smelly hotel I have ever had the non pleasure of staying in"
JaneGrif, 11 Septembre 2023

This place needs a clean, an upgrade and a clear out of management. The carpets were rank - dirty and smelly - the rooms were tired and worn. The shower was dangerous because the water temperature was un controlled. I had to be rescued from the lift because my key card had stopped working - inspire of pressing the alarm repeatedly it took the manager a while to get to me - he was miffed with me and just plain rude. Awful awful awful - just a rip off. Value 0/10. Looks like it was last decorated in the 80s when I was a student in Nottingham. There is nothing premium/premier about this dreadful hotel.

"Not great!"
beth2822, 03 Septembre 2023

Not great!!! Very dated! Visited here 7 years ago and it hasn't changed a bit! The lobby and bar area are nice but have a weird sexual theme… very 50 shades of grey maybe?! Perhaps cool 10 years ago but now just seems very dated. The rooms are fine, everything you could want in them but we upgraded and it wasn't cheap! The decor is chipped in places and the hallways are very well used!! We had 3 rooms as we stayed for a wedding and one room at the front of the hotel had a lovely view, the other 2 over look the car park which was full of teenagers at night pushing bins about and playing music really loudly. We had to shut the windows even though it was a warm night! Breakfast was great but they wouldn't let us sit together as a 6 - they wouldnt move two tables together so one couple had to sit away from the group! Very odd and not good service. The food was excellent though so really made us feel better! Wouldn't stay again. Good location but too expensive for what it is. 2.5/3 stars at best!

"Not great"
Reviewer933, 21 Août 2023

Service and staff were lovely but the room, lift, noise and car park crime wasn't so good. Would recommend the Premium Inn only 5 minutes drive away. One of our party stayed their and had a much better time. At the best western the AC unit on the roof above my room was loud all night even if the AC in the room was turned off. The car park next to the hotel had drug users in over night playing music until 4AM plus they broke into one of our parties cars. Not only did they leave needles they urinated everywhere as the smell was awful. Food was fine but a bit costly for a buffet. Room was small for the price and that was with an upgrade, one member of our party had a bed they didn't fit in. Over all I'd recommend going to the premier inn as I should have done

"Excellent Hotel, highly recommended "
Paul B, 13 Août 2023

Excellent Hotel, great location, really nice room, lovely staff. Located in a really nice part of the city right near the castle entrance. There is a NCP parking next to the hotel, don't download the app or pay in advance it is cheaper to pay on card when you leave.

"Positive experience "
lynjanud, 12 Août 2023

The hotel is central but tucked away. Right next to the Castle. Lots to do in walking distance. Stayed 3 nights in an executive room which was large and well equipped . Comfortable bed, large clean shower, fluffy towels and bath robes. Great quality toiletries and even aromatherapy room spray as a nice touch . Staff were friendly and helpful. The size of the hotel is not too large so offered a more personal feel to the stay it's not the fanciest hotel but it's modern and clean. Breakfast was good. Plenty of options with staff on hand to help and keep everything tidy and topped up. My only complaint is the hotel parking garage which was very narrow and awkward to enter and exit . The NCP next door is probably a better option. Overall it was a most pleasant stay and excellent value for money.

"Good location, stylish decor and friendly staff"
165markc, 09 Août 2023

The St James Hotel is ideally located for exploring Nottingham. The castle is almost bang opposite and there are bars and restaurants (included the oldest pub in the country, the Trip to Jerusalem) right on the door step. The city centre is only a very short walk away, and the only negative thing I could think of was that the car park was a little walk away. The hotel stands out from more 'normal' hotels as the decor has been thought about. It is attractive and continues through from the public areas to the rooms. The bar is attractive and the barmaid who was working when I was there made me feel welcome and even chatted a while when she realised I was on my own waiting for friends to arrive. I will use this note again as it represents really good value for money, and would recommend it to anyone wanted a stay in Nottingham.

"Avoid rooms near the lift if you want to sleep"
KattSussex, 05 Août 2023

A avoid room 201 or any rooms near the lift. Unfortunately we were woken or kept awake listening to the mechanics of the lift. They clearly know this is an issue due to the amount of comments. Couldn't keep the window open due to noise at the front of the hotel and people smoking outside. On the positive side, the check in receptionist was friendly, just as well given the issues with using their pre booked car park which was inaccessible. The bed was comfortable, shame we couldn't get a decent nights sleep in it. Good central location. Mentioned the lift noise on check out. Man said he would advise the duty manger. No one has contacted me

"Disappointed "
Steven S, 04 Août 2023

Visited for the second time in as many weeks. Last time was great that's why we booked again. Breakfast good. Hotel staff pleasant However, the room we had was near the lift and the noise from it kept us awake all night. The bedroom faced the front of the building and wàs on the first floor couldn't keep the window open because of people smoking outside and the smoke rising.

"Cleanliness!!"
jeremy_hartigan, 29 Juillet 2023

I booked two rooms at this hotel for my wife and I and our three children aged 2, 12 and 15 We arrived late and where quickly shown our rooms on 3rd floor and subsequently had little notice of the facilities that night We arose for the breakfast and showered and went downstairs for breakfast Sadly in the light of day the self service breakfast was a sorry state ! The black carpet was filthy, tables greasy and buffet luke warm and tasteless This hotel promotes itself and premium brand and other than its location offers nothing to support its premium prices and branding We won't be returning

"Clean, quiet comfortable and a reasonable price"
GreboGuru, 28 Juillet 2023

A nice hotel, the lifts are quite possibly the slowest ever and one is out of order completely. Clean and comfortable with prompt and polite service at the desk. Breakfast was very good and a good range of choice.

"Great Long Weekend"
shabird2014, 26 Juillet 2023

We had a long weekend stay. We arrived on Sunday. The check in was very smooth. The room allocated to us, on the 3rd floor, was very nice. Housekeeping lady on Monday was excellent. Parking at the NCP car park next door can be tricky. The path way to the car park is narrow around the corner so be watchful. The stay was excellent. The staff are very polite and helpful. Breakfast was very good buffet items. We enjoyed the breakfast very much, the fruit salad and smoothies were very good. Location is very good for Nottingham City centre. Only a small detail was that it took a while for the empty plates/bowl to be cleared from the table.

"Absolutely awful"
w00kie88, 25 Juillet 2023

Lazy staff not worth the money go to a 5*** and get what you pay for this place is AWFULL!! all false advertisement don't believe anything they advertise.. They didn't have no bottled water no food on the premises no chef it's the weekend when you decided to upgrade for 24/7 room service what a scam!! I don't think you should give good money for a absolutely awfull experience or even be offered a upgrade when they haven't got the service or staff to give you the service just awful and one sad experience

"Great location, amazing staff!"
sueputt, 24 Juillet 2023

Great location for going out in Nottingham. Staff were absolutely amazing from booking to leaving. I had booked 8 rooms for a hen do, they were very accommodating. Set aside part of the bar for welcome drinks, Ken & the other bar staff were great! Brought more chairs, rearranged the area, cleared up after our decorating. Reception staff were extremely welcoming & helpful, arranged the bride to be's room to be ready so we could get in early to decorate. Rooms have white company toiletries, housekeeping were great, I cannot fault this hotel at all & will definitely return. We can't thank you enough!!

"Poor value for money and badly explained information "
Clare W, 23 Juillet 2023

We have stayed at this city centre hotel before, didn't have any lasting memories one way or the other of it. It's expensive for what you get, but reflective of other hotels in the centre of Nottingham. We received emails from the hotel prior to arrival advising us to download the NCP parking app prior to pay for parking at car park next door, or call ahead to reserve a hotel space. We decided just to go with NCP, so I duly downloaded the app and we drove in to the car park, having paid directly on the app as suggested. It also asked us to take a ticket, which we asked at the hotel about - receptionist advised we were in the wrong part of the car park, and needed a QR code to use the barrier car park. She agreed it was ‘very confusing' and we should try and speak to NCP about refunding as we'd need to pay again to get out. Granted this is an NCP car park and a separate business but I wouldn't have gone anywhere near the app if they hadn't emailed me and recommended it! There was no mention of QR codes or separate areas of the car park - if you're going to recommend something then at least be accurate and specific, or don't mention it at all! I'm now £20 out of pocket with I assume little chance of getting it back. Our room was small with a direct view of the car park, with very little space to get to 1 side of the double bed (you literally have to side shuffle!). No air conditioning - a fan is provided (limited impact) - so on warm days not especially comfortable to stay in. We returned to the hotel about 11pm after a wedding reception to find an alarm was sounding off somewhere nearby, we're not sure where or what it was but it went on all night. In the early morning a 2nd noise started (building and another noise also like an alarm) which added to a very uncomfortable night and little sleep. We mentioned the noises and uncomfortable night to reception when checking out, but other than suggesting it started at 6am (it didn't), she offered no explanation or apology. All in all an unpleasant stay, poor value for money and made worse by the hotel making recommendations without proper explanation that must cost people money fairly often. We do stay in Nottingham occasionally but will be avoiding this one in future.

"MEDIUM RANGE HOTEL"
411zoe, 20 Juillet 2023

Reception area is outstandingly clean and modern. The rooms (in my instance an executive king) require a little tlc, wardrobe door needed to be slammed to shut and the décor requires refreshing. The hotel room was however clean and the bed was comfy (pillows were in need of upgrading as they were very very soft). The hotel is perfectly situated for Nottingham city centre with a large multi storey car park directly next to the hotel. If i were to stay in Nottingham again I would use again.

"Crash Pad"
Mulhouseboyz247, 10 Juillet 2023

For, t'were written, henceforth, and forthwith, in perpetuity and, indeed, forever, that, as t'were decreed, and ratified in law, on that great day which shall remain with us in folklore and in the annals of time immemorial; whether beast, human or both, or, indeed, neither: when thon MulhouseBoyz do dirties, conditions must be such that the dirt doth flow in a controlled yet purposeful manner, in the maximum comfort the act allows. This hotel was not aware that such conditions must be met. They simply must. But here, they were not. For the “desk space”, as I like to call it - the boxed in area that contains all the pipe work that no traveller - MulhouseBoy or not - should see in a hotel bathroom was of such a shape that full extension of the toilet seat lid was not possible. This meant that, in the morning, when doing my daily ablutions and passing dirts, the toilet seat lid pressed into by back and prevented me from performing the act in the conditions the act deserves and, indeed, requires. That is my only complaint - there was a beaudiful liddle fan in the room that kept me cool in the unprecedented, unrelenting Nottingham summer heat. It also served to disperse any noxious gaseous emissions from my battered davie during the night so that I slept soundly and woke up in much the same manner as I do at my spacious home; fully hungover and surrounded by half-eaten Big MacDonald's meals from the popular McDonald's franchise. The shower was bracing, of such force that the water emitted briefly pierced both space and time. But, boy oh boy, did it get this MulhouseBoy clean. I lathered myself with soap first, rinsed that off and - feeling very dry of skin - decided to treat myself by using the beaudiful liddle boddle of shower gel so kindly provided by St James Hotel. I lathered myself once again and then rinsed to completion. The MulhouseBoyz will return here in the future, whereupon similar activities will be undertaken and a thorough comparison to this first visit (documented above) will take place. Bravo, St James. Bravo.

"Noisy, poor sleep quality rooms too hot"
beckyportess, 10 Juillet 2023

Really disappointed with our recent stay, no water in the rooms to drink it was too hot and a broken noisy fan left to cool the room, the windows had to be left open for some ventilation however it was over a noisy street

"Good location, poor quality rooms"
jonportess, 09 Juillet 2023

Bar and reception appear very nice, but the quality of rooms are disappointing considering the price. No AC in a very hot room and only a very noisey fan provided. Very small windows only let in noise from outside and provided limited ventilation. I have stayed in much better accommodation elsewhere in Nottingham and paid much less.

"Very good hotel "

Love staying here stay here every year for my birthday. love good location nexf to bar and restaurant walking distance lots of good choices. brilliant rooms. The staff are brilliant and very helpful most definitely be back.

"Lovely hotel perfect for a city break"
leahc915, 04 Février 2023

Well located quirky hotel in Nottingham. We stayed for one night and this hotel and it was great for us. The room was small but adequate and perfect for a city break stay. Breakfast was lovely too! Top tip: book the car park in advance with the hotel, very reasonable at £9 per night.

"Very pleasant hotel, lovely staff but needs updating overall"
1966girl, 01 Février 2023

A pleasant stay, very helpful staff who go over and above to be helpful . Particular mention to Ryan and Oscar. Really good breakfast, big selection inc pastries & lovely full cooked English breakfast. The rooms were basic and comfortable- lovely comfy beds. However they are really dated - almost look 1990s in decor and facilities. The bathrooms are very basic. I think with some investment in facilities this hotel could easily get a 5 consistently. I would return here.

"Awesone experience"

Conveniently located within walking distance of the city centre and major tourist attractions . Offer of last minute name your price upgrade was innovative and a win win for both hotel and customers . We upgraded both our standard double to executive king .

"Shopping And Theatre Trip"
Karen H, 07 Décembre 2022

Booked via Booking.com a twin room. This was little more than a box room, it was next to the lifts so noisy too with awful draft from the window behind the bed. In addition I have mobility issues and the shower was in the bath. The second day I asked for a different room, we were upgraded but had to share a bed. The parking was booked separately for £9 per night - the car park is quite a walk away, not easy to access and not comfortable due to lactation late late at night. Breakfast is buffet and was good. Staff were friendly - one called Oscar was particularly helpful and accommodating. Bar staff at night inexperienced - I got my whiskey and dry in a brandy glass!? Location is great easy access everywhere. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable. Would go back but would be clear about my needs.

"Stylish hotel"
davidcharlesengl2022, 13 Novembre 2022

Good location and stylish as clean as a premier in but with a lot more character, the hotel felt special and clearly gone to some effort with special decor features. Very central location with some gorgeous pubs close to the castle.

"Overnight stay"
luluchamberlain, 01 Novembre 2022

I booked my room in advance as I had tickets to see a production at the Nottingham Playhouse. Unfortunately this was cancelled due to the untimely death of a cast member. I decided not to cancel my stay and opted to have a meal in the Hotel. My room was comfortable and contained everything I needed. The decor was a little tired but redecoration would solve that. My meal was passable, the steak was overcooked for my taste but passable. The usual jenga chips and fried mushrooms which were quite tasty. This was probably because there was no chef on duty. The Rioja was passable but lacked the usual umph. This given, I enjoyed my stay but some upgrading in the rooms is required.

"Solo theatre trip to Nottingham"
iankj57, 23 Octobre 2022

I chose this hotel (St James Nottingham) as it was close to where I needed to be for the theatres. It is a good location close to town, central for getting out and about. I had a small room but it had a large bed, lovely clean bedding. A nice choice of refreshments in the room which was replenished by housekeeping the morning after. Good en-suite, decent shower (and bath) complete with toiletries. The reception staff were helpful and friendly. Would certainly stay again.

"Noisy Small Room"
Metroland_Resident, 17 Octobre 2022

The sound proofing of the room was very poor. You could hear everything that went on in the room next door. Don't stay here if you want a quiet stay. The room smelt as though someone had smoked in it.

"Not up to BW usual standards"
Tomosan, 11 Octobre 2022

Three stars for the excellent service from the lady on reception who checked me in (Daniela?) and the very nice burger I was served in the Bar. Everything else oozed crapness, frankly. About 18 years ago I worked at another hotel (4 star) just around the corner from this one. Back then, this was called the Rutland Square Hotel and was similarly 4 star. It's now a 3 star and managed by Best Western, who I normally have nothing but praise for. They've badly let themselves down with this place, however. Overall the property is tatty, it's obviously had a revamp in last 5 years or so, but it's been done on the cheap and the key infrastructure (bathrooms etc) are the same 20 year old fittings from the Rutland Square Days. The decor in the lift lobby and corridor on the 4th floor is truly bizarre, the look is not a good one. My room was clean and warm but the furnishings were tatty, holes in bed linen, mattress tired and saggy. The shower had very little pressure, but the water was hot. Windows desperately needed a clean, see pic. I debated going to reception, but decided as I was only there one night it wasn't worth it. I went down to the bar for dinner and a drink, the young man working there clearly didn't want to be! No product knowledge, e.g. what white wines do you have? He resorted to reading some labels, but it was clear my enquiry had pushed him too far. Kitchen closes at 9pm, which is quite early for a hotel that seems to attract business guests. Despite paying for everything on arrival, I was told at checkout that I owed £19 for 2 breakfasts, I didn't have breakfast and the room was single occupancy… I was told because I had booked it (true) that it had been charged. Fair enough said I, but I didn't have one, let alone two, so please take it off my bill. The man behind the counter wasn't keen on this and informed me “I'm not allowed to take these off”. I was about to point out that you're also not allowed to charge people for goods or services they haven't received, but the roll of my eyes into the back of my head clearly said this to him without the need for actual words and he took the breakfasts off my bill. I left promptly having had a good night's sleep, but feeling let down by staff that had given up and wandering how this once luxury hotel had gone so badly down hill. There's not even any parking at the front of the hotel, despite there being space. Even if it was just a holding area for a valet parking service. I'd pay for that and have no complaints about the price I paid on this visit, but I expect the service and facilities to match the expectation, and it didn't! Not even close.

"Quick visit. Great hotel find."

Excellent. Room was clean and comfortable. Friendly reception. Well located. Power points by the bed (big plus). Check in was painless. Just needed a bed for the night this time but when I have to come back here I'll certainly be using this hotel again.

"Lovely hotel easy access to all central amenities"
719katet, 06 Septembre 2022

Lovely hotel. Great buffet breakfast. Lovely friendly staff on the desk. Executive king room was lovely and cleaned and replenished every day. Happily stay there again. One issue was parking as hotel car park was unavailable but an NCP car park is on the doorstep to use at a discounted rate but still worked out very expensive for 3 days. Would still not put me off staying there again.

"Nice little hotel in centre of Nottingham."
carolwP5551IZ, 06 Septembre 2022

Stayed 4 nights. Nice hotel. Good value for money. Room a bit dated but comfy. Central location. Just a stone's throw from castle. Good breakfast choice. Friendly staff. Would be more than happy to stay here again. Reduced price parkung in NCP next door.

"A lovely place!"
dmtoyne, 04 Septembre 2022

A great hotel with a very ‘boudoir' feel to the rooms. Close to the castle, city centre and the reason for our visit, gigs at Rock City! We've stayed here a couple of times now and we'll def' be back!

"Convenient location and comfy hotel with great amenities "
R2493AEannas, 27 Août 2022

We stayed in an executive room. The room was large and pleasant. There was a coffee machine, safe, robes and hairdryer, so the amenities were very good. The room was quiet and the bed was comfy. We had breakfast which included continental and cooked. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located by the castle and conveniently located for the town centre.

"Great location, great room"
Judy R, 27 Août 2022

I stayed a night in a “crash pad” and it was perfect for what I needed. The staff were friendly, the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. I would stay here again. My only complaint is that the stairs area needed new carpet. Apart from that, it's a great hotel.

"Short Stay"
lorrainehK7067WQ, 26 Août 2022

Two nights at St James Hotel. Nice hotel, friendly, helpful staff. The hotel is very close to the city centre, with Nottingham Castle right next door. Some good bars and restaurants nearby too. We booked two executive rooms that were decent. Some nice touches, sleep spray and glass bottled water. Comprehensive tea and coffee facilities. We only included breakfast which was a buffet of cereals, yoghurt, eggs, sausages, bacon etc. A good hotel which I would be happy to visit again.

"Mouldy bathroom and slamming doors"
JuliaAles, 26 Août 2022

St James Hotel is located in a fairly central spot - being just over a 10 minute walk from the train station as well as near the Robin Hood statue and Nottingham Castle. As you walk into the hotel, it looks clean and secure. The people at the front desk provided a friendly service and were happy to answer questions. The room I stayed in, which was on the first floor, was a reasonable size for one person (it would have been a bit small for two). Unfortunately, the bathroom ceiling was mouldy and there were stain marks on the bedsheets. There was also music coming from (I assume) the downstairs bar) and doors constantly being slammed at night time and in the morning. Not sure who was making all that noise but I've never been to a hotel this noisy before. This place has a lot of potential but there are a few things they need to iron out.

"Excellent stay in excellent location."
Robthepikeman, 22 Août 2022

Stayed here due to us having an event at Nottingham Castle which is about 200 metres away, perfect location. Luckily the hotel was great as well, looks impressive when you enter, has two lifts, only one goes up to sixth floor which was where our room was. Room was lovely, complimentary teas/coffee/biscuits and bottled water. Note pad and pen plus a lavender spray to use on your pillows to aid sleeping. Little touches like that really do make a difference. The room also had air conditioning which was certainly useful. Only thing that let the room down was the cheap lightweight toilet seat which seemed a bit flimsy and moved a little. Food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced, most meals around £12, not huge meals though, my fish and chips consisted of a very small piece of fish, mushy peas and about 10 thick cut chips stacked up. The light bites seem much better value. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice and self service. The staff throughout were all very friendly and the breakfast staff were very cheerful which was nice to see. Would definitely stay here again.

"St James Hotel, Nottingham, the place to stay!"
RichardSwales65, 22 Août 2022

Very friendly staff, on line booking in which saves so much time, fast WIFI, ironing board and iron in rooms, comfortable, well decorated, very close to the City Centre, I won't stay anywhere else when in Nottingham!

"Graduation Stay"
46Cally46, 16 Août 2022

Great Location only styed one night. but peaceful, clean and thank god for the fan its was boiling. Breakfast was fantastic plenty to choose from and all fresh and cooked well. Staff were friendly and helpful.

"Beautiful hotel and amazing staff!"
TeaCup96HSB, 16 Août 2022

Went as part of a hen do package, we had 6 rooms with 2 to a room ov various floors... our main hen had to change room on the second night due too a issue in their room but it never dampened their experience I've never been to a fancier hotel it was beautiful, and you can tell the staff are dedicated to their job every staff member I encountered was super polite and nothing was too much for them, there was one staff member that stood out for me but sadly I didn't get her name (she was a beautiful person with long black hair) we first encountered her when she was in the lift with us she had just finished her first half of her shift and was about to go for a rest before continuing her shift, I loved her dedication to her job, on the final day of us saying I asked how she was and she said she was OK and she asked how we where, I know it's quick interations but it was lovely to speak to her, she is a true credit to your hotel. Even though the room was hot due to the weather it was lovely the beds are super comfortable and the room was spotless, I left a note upon leaving to show my appreciation I hope that it was seen. Thanks again Hannah and Angela

"2 night stay"
KEITH H, 10 Août 2022

Was given this trip as a gift, difficult to find due to sat nav and roadworks problems beware!! Friendly greeting at welcome. Room was right around the bed but opens into a spacious end of bed area. Slightly wacky decor unless you like purple and black. Tea and coffee supplied as well as water in the room. Breakfast is self service with plenty of choice, although the bacon and scramble egg does get a bit dry if out too long. Nice bar area although never that busy so lack some atmosphere. Overall good stay in great central area for castle bars and restaurants.

"Room to small, to noisy"
jamesaD6756XA, 01 Août 2022

A little disappointed, I booked a double room through work. However when I arrived this was a room for room literally for one person or a child. The room is very small with limited space for luggage and to work. The desk was more of a side board and the wardrobe was a small man made cupboard. Some of the rooms online looked lovely so I was disappointed when I arrived. The rooms was clean but very dated, the bed I found comfortable, however the room had no aircon so I had to keep the window open and my room faced the multi story car park so I was woken at 530 am by cars arriving and the beeping of the barrier. The breakfast was nice, tasted fresh however I was the first one down with me being woken so early. It wasn't the cheapest, I would much prefer to have stayed at the premier inn due to the size of the room and the fact I couldn't work from here. There is advertisement of a gym also I could not find this in the hotel. Probably not suitable for people working away.

"Four Poster Room"
WhiteOrchid01, 30 Juillet 2022

Beautiful room with comfortable bed. The upholstery on the sofa was a bit grubby but otherwise fine. Jacuzzi bath was really relaxing. Staff booked car for me and restaurant staff were kind and friendly and brought my meals to the room as my mobility is poor.

"Needs more customer focused service"
488saeedaa, 30 Juillet 2022

It was a smaller great western hotel in a great location near the castle. The hotel had been renovated but it lacked a human touch and friendliness. The investment was on the building not the people. They employed lots of local staff and young people. I believe there is greater need to invest in staff training and be more customer focused. The breakfast was cooked and continental but the cheeses were next to ham so not suitable for vegetarian, halal or vegan. There is extra charge for drinks like flat white and cappuccinos but the staff brought the wrong drink. At one time, there was 3/4 staff in restaurant and no one but 1 asked any table if they needed anything. It was a very different experience to the one I had in another hotel where it was so welcoming

"Fantastic service"
andrewaW657CJ, 26 Juillet 2022

Clean rooms and fantastic service especially from Jade behind the bar who went the extra mile! Food was a little bit delayed but this was made with extra fries for the table. Would recommend for any visit.

"Great location and smart hotel"
Jaimeshaker, 17 Juillet 2022

Second time we've stayed here. Overall stay was Very good. Few minor issues like no kids options on the menu in the restaurant and the shower hose wouldn't stretch enough for me to get under it. Cracking location for Nottingham Castle and all other attractions in Nottingham Town centre.

"Unacceptable"
cranhamrebecca, 15 Juillet 2022

Did not believe or want to n ow about either my experience or complaint - denying that it could even be possible. I would have explained and been fair if given a platform to do so. Unacceptable given the price and standard compared to other city centre options

"Great Stay at this Hotel"
codeie, 13 Juillet 2022

We had a lovely big Twin room with luxury shampoo, biscuits etc. Very near to the centre of Nottingham, so lots to do! Breakfast was tasty with a very good variety. All staff were friendly And helpful. There was a Car Park next door with reduced rates for guests. We'll stay here again when in the area.

"Tatty Room and Unbearably Hot"
Adrian B, 11 Juillet 2022

We were due to stay two nights but after one night we headed home. The furniture was falling apart, the bathroom was grubby, the bathroom floor scarily slippy, but above all it was unbelievably hot. Yes, it was a hot weekend, but my goodness, what was a pretty pokey and grim room turned in to a sauna. We had to keep the curtains closed at all times to try and keep the temp down but to no avail. We asked for another fan but non were available. After one night, enough was enough and we headed home. Would seriously not recommend - a hotel that is feeling its age and in desperate need of some investment and TLC. Staff were nice and friendly and a good location for city centre, but not a nice experience overall.

"Overnight Business Stay"
Adam P, 22 Juin 2022

Stayed here last week on business, have stayed here previously and would stay again. A good central location, near the castle. A short, pleasant walk to lots of dining options but without any noise to disturb nights sleep. Breakfast is great and on this occasion we used their boardroom which was useful and well supplied also.

"Good comfortable clean"
677stephena, 18 Juin 2022

The location is perfect for the city & the railway station but not so close as to get the noise. The staff were amazingly helpful, arranging a room change for me at short notice due to an issue with the plumbing. I didn't try the bar/restaurant but it looked comfortable & well-appointed. Beds comfortable too, possibly avoid the crash pad rooms as I fortunately did, they are a bit small but not uncomfortable.

"Perfect location and friendly helpful staff"
LondonRose1, 29 Mai 2022

Great hotel staff very helpful and the rooms great guest areas lovely beds comfortable perfect spot for seeing sites and very quiet area which is nice with good pubs etc for food nearby loved my stay we really enjoyed it

"Value for money and lovely hotel and staff"
sabradley23, 29 Mai 2022

Enjoyed my stay they we're extremely helpful and the rooms good quality and comfortable defiantly stay again location perfect and quiet easy to get to and lots to do in area. Lots of good places to eat and sites to see

"Bad nights sleep"
naomibrown92, 24 Mai 2022

Wouldn't recommend this place if wanting a good nights sleep. The bed was very uncomfortable and the noise woke me up continuously through the night. The walls are so thin when people are returning to their rooms late and talking it sounds close enough to be in your room. Additionally, I was woken up at 6:30am by lots of loud banging not sure where this was coming from. One positive is that the room was very clean and well looked after and the staff were very friendly.

"Rock city gig"
Sophie M, 22 Mai 2022

Stay in Nottingham fairly regularly for gigs. At the time of booking St James was around £40/50 cheaper than most, so we went for it. Overall it was ok. I guess you get what you pay for. 10 min walk to Rick city. Room was small and a little dated but clean. The bed was crap, rolled into the middle all night. And the toilet seat was loose and wouldn't stay up. Nothing major though. Had tea/coffee, hair dryer, iron & some basic toiletries. Breakfast was below average. Powdered scrambled eggs, no bacon & weak coffee. Staff helpful though and tried to fix. Fresh juices, pastries & bread for toast were all fine. Hotel car park was a little tight! But at £9 again can't complain. Would stay again at a push. But Only if it was the cheapest option and it was just a bed for the night. Crown plaza is much better. Even the other best western.

"LEISURE BREAK"
Allen B, 16 Mai 2022

Excellent facilities in a good location. Breakfast was varied, however the area was a little tight on space when busy. The hotel's event organiser is very efficient and has incredible customer service skills.

"Lovely relaxing hotel"
Nezcassee, 15 Mai 2022

Stayed here for one night in a standard double - great value. Hotel is hidden away so very little noise. Staff were friendly and (mostly) efficient, although after being shown and charged the correct bill I found I had been given someone else's invoice to take away. Good spread of hot and cold food for breakfast. My review has lost a star because the standard of maintenance in the rooms needs to be improved. Paint is chipped in places, also my washbasin had a crack in the surround - see photos. It just lacks the smooth, bland perfection of a Premier Inn or Holiday Inn, but makes up for it in character.

"Nice and eclectic"
BoleynMom, 12 Mai 2022

Nice hotel. Located close to Nottingham Castle and good restaurants. The room was nice too. The hotel is eclectic. It was our first night in the UK and we were exhausted or we would have drinks in the bar which looked like a cozy library. Parking is confusing as you must park in garage next door. They do validate though.

"Great Value Hotel"
robmM8161TJ, 11 Mai 2022

Fabulous service from a really friendly and helpful team. We stayed in a small double (crash pad) and a standrd double - both adequate for a short stay, but as the name suggests, the small double, is very compact. Overall cleanliness was fine, with a modern TV and tea and coffee (and biscuits!) in the room. Good all-you-can-eat cooked breakfast, with lots of pastry and cold options as well.

"Avoid"
R2493AEannas, 09 Mai 2022

Really strange set up. I booked through expedia and contacted expedia to rearrange my booking due to a friend having Covid. Hotel said no one was available who could authorise the change but someone would be in touch in 7 to 10 days. No one was. My rooms were never cancelled and we were recorded as a no show. Expedia again contacted hotel who said no one works there who can authorise room change or refund and gave an email address. It's now 4 weeks since we were meant to stay and still nothing from the hotel.

"Fantastic service as always"
Imogen F, 01 Mai 2022

This was our 5th visit for an annual conference locally. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed an executive room which I highly recommend as we had brought our two small children. The entire hotel was very clean. Good breakfast, very high standard of room housekeeping. Particularly mention to the welcoming reception staff (including the nighttime reception staff who provided me with additional tea bags - very important!) and very accommodating bar staff. We were there as part of a large group and felt so welcome in the hotel. Excellent value for money. We are all looking forward to returning again.

"Excellent Hidden Gem"
funnello13, 30 Avril 2022

I cannot understand the negativity of some of the reviews for this hotel. I found it very clean, comfortable, with reasonably priced, good food and very polite and friendly staff. The location is great, close enough to the centre but out the way of the crowds at night. With secure car parking for an extra few pounds it is excellent value for a city hotel. Would definitely use this hidden gem again.

"Good, quiet location"
sparty328, 28 Avril 2022

Good location within the city centre and a minutes walk to the castle and Robin Hood statue. Check in was efficient. I booked a ‘crash pad' which by definition is small but suited my needs but would probably go for a bigger room if staying any longer. The room itself was clean and had everything I needed there's a power socket by the bed, tea/coffee facility, the mattress is very soft. Breakfast was very good with a nice choice set in a nice setting which includes the bar area and has a very relaxing evening ambience. WiFi signal was excellent. Only negative was the hideous 70's style carpet in the lift :-)

"Disappointing stay"
MeganB357, 19 Avril 2022

The location is excellent. It is near Nottingham Castle and some nice bars near Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem. I would recommend a walk around the Park Estate as well. Disliked · Room was tiny and extremely warm. There was an air con unit but it was not letting out much cold air at all. The television didn't work. The toilet was dirty and there was chipped paintwork. Having stayed at this hotel numerous times around 4 years ago, it has gone rapidly down hill. We paid £157 and it was not worth that by any standard. Receptionist at front of house was extremely rude and condescending. When we arrived, with heavy bags having walked from our car parking spot, we had to wait for him to finish a phone call with no apology for the wait. When we returned downstairs, I mentioned the fact that we were unable to tune to TV (having tried multiple times) and he claimed we should not be watching the TV and should "be out". This was completely unnecessary for him to comment on how I spend my stay. He then told us that the network was down across the hotel which would have been useful to know when we checked in to avoid spending a significant amount of time trying to fix it. Not impressed.

"Very enjoyable stay"
Jude S, 07 Avril 2022

Great hotel, well appointed, clean, quiet room, in a central location. The breakfast was very good, with some special touches on how it is presented, served by a Vicky, who was very attentive. Thank you.

"This is a great hotel!"
Minty81, 07 Avril 2022

I first came here for afternoon tea on a wowcher deal but decided to return to actually stay. Was just here for one night but efficient check in and friendly staff, clean warm room with White Company products, lovely peaceful breakfast and afternoon tea. I can only say good things! Great location too.

"Don't go here at present"
Grandadseaside, 06 Avril 2022

Literally the worst hotel anyone who works here must feel sorry for them selves Awful staff awful rooms so hot unbearable clearly the worst experience I have ever had Room 105 hated it every minute Phoned booking . Com whilst staying as e hated it so much

"Nice hotel with good location"
128JT, 02 Avril 2022

If you are looking for a nice hotel to stay in Nottingham St James Hotel is a good choice. The hotel is right next to the city center and everything is within walking distance. The staff is friendly and the rooms are quiet

"Shocking!"
Venture283540, 02 Avril 2022

Very disappointed in stay. Checked in online but on arrival at hotel it could not be found. Was a assigned a terrible room, very small, stale, noisy and extremely cold. Breakfast was no better was buffet style but once food had gone no replenishment. Therefore even though breakfast was still running for a further 30 minutes when we arrived there was nt much to choose from. The pastries were as stale as our room.

"Cheap and Cheerful"
Thrash27, 24 Mars 2022

Paid £120 for two nights in a small double room at St. James' and was very impressed with the quality. The room was spacious considering it was only a small and the bathroom included a bath and decent shower. Staff were welcoming on arrival and were happy to help when I had an issue with my key card and when I asked for extra tea and milk. Room was cleaned and restocked whilst I was out the first day which was nice. Only niggle was that the mattress wasn't the best quality but still slept well as it is in a quiet location.

"Great location, that's about it."
lornasman, 21 Mars 2022

Great location, breakfast was excellent, friendly staff, unfortunately that's all this Hotel has going for it. This a very NOISY Hotel, don't expect a great nights sleep, it won't happen. Drunk loud people in the corridor at night, and the doors are not a snug fit, the corridors are narrow and no ventilation, means all that shouting and yelling has nowhere to go but through your door. The décor is very dark indeed, making those corridors oppressive, even the lifts are poorly lit. The hum from the electric panel in my room was awful, I had to pull my card at night just to sleep, but then you have no power in your room. I won't stay here again, there is way to much going against it.

"Nice Hotel Very Close To Nottingham Castle"
Julie M, 06 Mars 2022

A pleasant comfortable hotel in a good central location. The breakfast consisted of a good choice of both hot and cold food. The room was comfortable. Pleasant staff. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

"Disappointed"
Trishaf71, 24 Février 2022

Unfortunately the hotel although looking grand on the outside wasn't so pleasant inside room we had the penthouse 612 dirty sheets came and changed it for another stained sheet which was then changed again but left in the room… thick dust under the units in lounge ….. breakfast no mushrooms cold bacon cold sausage and cold tomatoes asked if more was coming out said yes but nothing came out . We got free breakfast as the sheets were filthy but breakfast wasn't great ! Definitely a miss for this hotel in future shame as best westerns are our favourite places to stay

"No heating"
robert g, 21 Février 2022

Zero no heating in the room I left a review on there site of zero to find it published as 10. It will not allow me to alter it. I want people to know that the room wasn't heated and ruined our stay. The company hasn't even acknowledged the fact and published my review as a 10

"Pleasant stay"
Josantq, 08 Janvier 2022

Excellent service and a nice, professional but welcoming feel. The bar tender was very attentive and friendly and ai noticed that he was cleaning covid screens and public areas whilst not serving guests. Parking is in the ncp right by the door and town is a stones throw away

"Great hotel some negatives easily remedied"
holliecommon, 30 Décembre 2021

The hotel reception and bar interior are amazing and the staff fantastic especially the gentleman who showed us to the car park. Noise by housekeeping woke us in the morning and sofa was a dirty sofa bed, not worth additional cost for seating area in the room

"Amazing service"
citytovillage, 28 Décembre 2021

We stayed in the penthouse for my 30th birthday. From start to finish I could not fault anything. The receptionist Daniela was lovely and professional. The room was stunning, immaculately clean, lots of mod cons. Shower was amazing jacuzzi bath was lovely. Free toiletries were great too. Breakfast staff in the morning were lovely nothing too much trouble and cooked me fresh hash browns and eggs when I asked. All in all 10/10 stay and will definitely be back!

"Christmas hotel break"
joannabee67, 21 Décembre 2021

Third stay here and as always an enjoyable stay. This hotel is close enough to the city center but far enough out so is quiet at night. Right next to the castle and 5 minutes walk to the ‘trip' the oldest pub in Britain makes the hotel an ideal choice. Will be back again next year.

"Unique boutique hotel"
275jacih, 15 Décembre 2021

A fabulous hotel in the heart of Nottingham, just a few minutes walk from the Castle and the Roundhouse restaurant. Great decor, not the usual bland magnolia or grey, but an eclectic mix of styles. Lovely restaurant area with a mezzanine floor full of natural light. Breakfast is a must with a great menu to suit all palates. Friendly staff.

"Unique boutique hotel"
275jacih, 15 Décembre 2021

A great hotel in the heart of Nottingham just minutes from the Castle and the Roundhouse restaurant. The decor is not your run of the mill bland magnolia or grey, it has real charm and character and has a unique atmosphere. Breakfast is good, a wide choice for every palate. A fabulous choice of wines and spirits. Friendly staff.

"It's a hard pass for me like please don't go At least find somewhere like clean"
sofiasR1813JQ, 04 Décembre 2021

They don't know what a vac is as the carpets where absolutely disgusting, the decor is all over the shop but each to there own I guess, they refused to serve us drinks as we were too ‘drunk' at 10 pm as we only just walked in and weren't disturbing or being rude to anyone It was really dusty especially the weird lamp lights things as if someone knocked that would gone all in are drink just vile really, the receptionist was really slow, the breakfast was just vile, just don't go

"Lovely hotel in a great location"
ScottA9501, 17 Octobre 2021

A lovely room in a great hotel with a stunning view of the castle. Good breakfast with good selections of continental and cooked. Very friendly and helpful staff who couldn't do enough. Great prices for a lovely hotel.

"Good location Lumpy Mattress "
Gezzerboy, 17 Octobre 2021

Stayed here on a Saturday night with the missus and we had a room on the 6th floor.. Room cost was £122 The room was small but clean but the mattress was one of the hardest and lumpiest I have ever had the misfortune to sleep on.. Breakfast at £12 a head was ok but nothing special

"No problems"
HabLeaf, 27 Septembre 2021

An overnight stay in order to see the football, there was no problems here. Usually I stay in Jurys but this time tried St James for the first time. Comfortable and clean and the food was okay {lasagne} Would stay here again, not overly plush but fine for the purpose.

"Impressive hotel "
904tanyar, 24 Septembre 2021

Stayed at this hotel for two nights very impressed with everything from the friendly reception staff and the comfy rooms with all amenities large bed and bathroom with powerful shower even provided bottled water with the usual tea and coffee in a central location with handy carpark just beside hotel will definitely stay again and highly recommend

"An absolute dump"
Jim B, 05 Septembre 2021

Stayed in this hovel last night as we were in Nottingham for the National Karate championships at the University. Looks quite swish in the lobby at night until you scratch the surface and delve deeper… The hotel in daylight is run down and dirty. We went down for breakfast on Sunday morning and none of the carpets in the bar, lounge or reception had been vacuumed. Photo below to back that up as I'm sure they'll deny that. The room itself is very tired and run down in general. The bathroom is ancient, the ceiling cracked and peeling and the toilet seat won't go all the way up, or stay up, because of the sink. I could probably live with all that for the price were it not just plain dirty. The worst is yet to come. I got into bed late, very tired, and discovered what I can only describe as a huge crater in the middle of the mattress from left to right at about where my hips lay. Incredibly uncomfortable! It was so deep I could lay a bottle of water in it and the bottle was level with the rest of the mattress. This made sleep an impossibility for me so I removed the sheets to see if I could stuff the hole with a blanket I found in the wardrobe. Big mistake. What I uncovered was the most utterly sickening and disgusting mattress I have ever seen in my life (see pictures). I'm not naive enough to think that all hotel mattresses are pristine but, there is a line and this crossed it by a country mile. The wafer thin, ancient mattress cover also looked rotten. When we checked in the receptionist said the hotel was fully booked so complaining at 2am would have been futile. This makes you wonder what goes on in other ‘unseen' areas such as the kitchen if the staff deem this acceptable. I complained at the desk in the morning to receive the usual platitudes of ‘I'm sorry Sir, I will report this to the manager'. The staff were generally fine and friendly enough and this place was quite cheap. Cheap or not, that mattress is beyond human use to me and is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable on any level. If you're on a stag/hen do and intend to collapse into bed so drunk you can't even remember your own name, then this place will probably suit you, if you're willing to sleep on a mattress like this. I'm not and I won't be back.

"A good stay but didn't live up to expectations from the website"
alyssat694, 05 Septembre 2021

1 night stay for a midweek couples getaway. We booked this hotel via booking.com and then later we're invited to pay what we could for an upgrade. Our executive room came in at £62 for the night which seemed reasonable. The hotel has secure parking nearby at £9 a night which was a bonus and we felt much better leaving the car there than in the public car parks. The foyer of the hotel was stunning but sadly it doesn't translate to the rooms. Bed was comfy and big! Bathroom however was dated and the door was somewhat hanging off. The room itself was shabby. Lots of marks on the walls and it was tired. With a bit of extra care it could have been a lovely lovely room! I'm pleased we upgraded as the room wasn't huge so I fear the standard rooms would have been very very small! Hotels location was fantastic and the staff were lovely so we would stay again just don't expect the grandeur you see online!

"Okay stay room not to standard "
314clivem, 02 Septembre 2021

The staff seemed nice and welcoming upon arriving. My room was small but that was not the issue with it. The toliet lid could not be fully raised as it hit the wall so i either had to holdnit up or sit with it resting on my back to use it. The double bed was short. I am 5ft 10 and my feet hung over the edge. I am not sure how a tall person would cope. Breakfast is okay. The fiod was basic but tasted good.

"Nice stay in good location"
51StephenB, 29 Août 2021

Room was comfy and plenty big enough. The room had air con and fan which was a bonus. Not 5 star as a few elements were a touch dated but they didn't make the stay any less pleasant. Breakfast was good. Staff were all very nice and helpful. Got a tad lost finding the car park and it's a real tight squeeze!

"Lovely stay"
Kath J, 21 Août 2021

My fiend and I stayed here on Friday night as we were attending Bamalama Sing Song. This hotel is so nice and has everything you would need. I don't have anything bad to say at all-if I had to pick a fault, then our view of a car park is honestly all I can say (and I'm being really picky -it wasn't an issue for us). Staff were lovely, hotel is within walking distance from town and from everything we had planned. I would definitely stay here again. Already thinking about my return visit.

"Amazing room, Covid safe, great stay"

Lovely stay at St. James in Nottingham. Stayed for a birthday celebration in the penthouse suite - wow! Room was stunning, spotless & had amazing views of the castle & across the city. Staff on check in were helpful & friendly. Lots of Covid information, regulations & sanitiser so felt really safe. We didn't eat or drink at the hotel as we were meeting friends but would love to stay again & try it out. Thanks so much for a great stay.

"Anniversary night away"
346MartinR, 13 Juin 2021

We stayed for our wedding anniversary even though we are fairly local, great reception, very helpful lady there. We did have to change rooms due to the shower being loose and no maintenance on a weekend. But no issue with that. Breakfast was great and the morning waitress Zusanna was very accommodating despite us being at least an hour early to the booked time. In fact she was genuinely pleased when the chef agreed to cook early for us. Breakfast was tasty, presented well and again Zusanna very attentive. The coffee was hot and fresh too! All good - booked the penthouse for next year!

"Wonderful Stay and return visit"
Tom190382, 05 Juin 2021

St James has now become our number 1 hotel choice in Nottingham . We have visited several times both before COVID and since re opening for guest stays and find the staff and service both friendly and professional . Our room this stay was an executive , which was spacious and clean with robes , slippers and a very good coffee pod machine plus added extras of pillow spray , sewing kit and lovely toiletries . Our breakfast which was plated , pre ordered the night before , was both tasty and generous ! We had a very attentive breakfast waitress who was a delight ! On arriving and leaving the reception team were helpful and welcoming and we will definitely return and recommend this great value hotel .

"Nice hotel and central location"
GemmaPow, 23 Mai 2021

We had a pleasant overnight stay in a executive suite for one night. The room was clean and tidy. Odd little room touch ups needed, door frame chipped away, shower tap handle loose, only two mini milks and English tea in the room. A couple more of each would of been more ideal if wanting more than one cup per guest. Overall the staff we very welcoming and friendly, clean hotel, great communication. Would come and stay again. Breakfast was a nice selection and again staff helpful and friendly. It's been a nice break away after lockdown.

"Great boutique hotel"

Great hotel, in the bustle of city centre with a great bar and restaurant. Rooms well equipped & GM very welcoming. Would definitely return. This part is to fulfil the 200 character minimum review TA have!

"Overnight Stay"
betterthanwork, 08 Octobre 2020

I would have loved to have rated this hotel higher, as there were several positives. But unfortunately we did not have a good night's sleep which marred our stay Highlights were the excellent covid procedures; friendly and helpful staff; modern (if compact) bathroom with great walk in drench shower; and the delicious fresh cooked breakfast. The downside was our room (316) which was smaller than nearby rooms and due to the confines of the walls, only had a very small double bed in it which made it difficult turning in bed. Additionally there was an annoying internal noise, akin to a large boiler constantly running, which also disturbed us. If you ensure you do not get this room, you should enjoy your stay.

"Dirty, smelly, noisy hotel room. Do not stay here"
AmandaFisher000, 06 Octobre 2020

I had a terrible stay at this hotel. The cleanliness of the room was appalling, crumbs and dirt on the chairs and carpet, it had obviously not been vacuumed or at least not very well. The decor was worn and scuffed. The room smelt bad, it was hard to distinguish if the smell was cigarette smoke possibly from nearby rooms although supposedly not allowed, or if it smelt of something like wet carpet, or both. It was noisy, noise from nearby rooms and outside it was hard to sleep. The view of a multi story car park from the window was ugly. The bathroom not pleasant, the air vent was very dusty, the shower head rusty, it was difficult to turn off the sink taps, the paint was peeling from the ceiling, there was some kind of dirty splash marks on the wall outside the bathroom door, and the modification where the sink surround was hacked away so that the toilet seat would stay up was unsightly and I imagine hygienic, after having a shower in this awful bathroom I felt less clean than when I went in. The room was also quite hot during the night making it hard to sleep. I left the hotel feeling exhausted and dirty from staying there. The lack of cleanliness is absolutely shocking, especially in times of covid. I will never stay at this hotel again and wold not recommend it at all.

"Comfy bed! Low customer service"
edwardsj226, 15 Mars 2020

Very comfortable bed, nice White Company toiletries and generally very clean in public areas and in the room, apart from smears on the window. Close to city centre, castle and transport, including bus from airport. Reception staff generally professional, although the desk is generally not manned and you have to wait for someone to come from the office and in that setting I didn't particularly like being referred to as “lads” by the night receptionist. I emailed the property a week in advance of stay with a special request. I received no reply and was told there was no note of it on the booking The Mugs in room needed washing as there was some form of residue (possibly dishwasher salts). I took them to reception where I was told to go ask at the bar for new ones. To me that is poor customer service but also very disappointed for neither person that I dealt with to apologise. The decorating is very tired. Marks on wall, chipped paint, chipped bathroom tiles, loose seal on corner of bath, toilet roll holder fell off wall, shower temperature control came off in hand. All of these raised during Check Out where I was told that the manager would contact me during the day, but I heard nothing.

"Excellent Stay and Good Value"
Mark_A_S700, 11 Mars 2020

I Stayed for a long weekend with my wife and friends. Check-in was simple. Rooms, ours was of a good size and bed was bigger then a double. However, our friends bed was only a double, but same room price, perhaps we were lucky. The corridors are very dark and narrow, perhaps more lighting can be put in. Parking - The hotel doesn't really have any parking, so you must park at the multi-story right next to the hotel at a discounted price. Location - Close to the city center, about a 5-10 min walk, downhill. maybe not suitable for someone with walking difficulties. Breakfast: Very good with lots of choice, no complaints. Overall a good stay for a reasonable price. When I visit Nottingham again, if the price is right I will most likely stay again.

"Afternoon Tea"
Russ1470, 11 Mars 2020

We had a Groupon voucher, but there was no availability on line. I rang the hotel and they offered me several dates, which was great service. The afternoon tea was tasty and all of the sandwiches and cakes were fresh. The service was good too.

"Perfect place for a short break"
Ali F, 10 Mars 2020

Great location, bonus to have the underground parking to save money at the NCP. All staff have been lovely, professional and helpful. No6 Bar is lovely, staff Ken, Tom and Ollie have been a pleasure to chat to, good choice of drinks and some very nice food too. Our room on the 6th floor was spotless and warm, maybe a little tired but totally fine. Comfy bed, huge television and plenty of space. We will definitely stay here again, well done team St James.

"Concert stopover"
Laura J, 09 Mars 2020

We stayed one night following a concert. Very helpful receptionist when we checked in. Decor is very dark and doesn't look as nice as in pictures online. Room was small and bathroom needed some desperate TLC (shower controls broken). Hotel room looked out onto multi storey car park and it was very noisy not cars but people shouting and kids messing about. Staff member who saw us at breakfast was not very helpful and basically said sit where you like and didn't help much more than that. Staff didn't seem to be able to cope when a large hen party group came in. Breakfast was okay apart from scrambled egg it looked watery. I had to track a waitress down to get a refill of our coffee pot. Underground parking is fine but very tight getting in and out of. Won't be booking again but was okay rather than having to drive back to Norfolk. Feel we could have got much nicer hotel for similar price. Will do more research next time.

"Afternoon brunch"
