    « Lovely little hotel »

We stayed here for 2 nights Saturday 19/11/16 to Monday 21/11/16, whilst on an organised break, taking in a trip to the Thursford Christmas Spectacular. An absolute gem of a hotel, the staff were stretched to the limit on the Saturday night, but took great care to make our stay as comfortable and streamline as possible. Some of the bedrooms are a little tired (and central heating radiators could possibly have done with a bleed), but ours was comfortable and functional. All linen snow white and towels soft and fluffy. Our meals were included and these were first class; we even took the opportunity to convey our compliments personally to the rather embarrassed chef! The bar was well stocked and prices reasonable. Can highly recommend!

    « Another restful stay »

I was booked in The George Hotel once again....I have stayed here before.....and will be here again next week. The hotel car park had a coach already I thought I might have the passengers in restaurant already. I checked in.....asked when coach party eating and made sure I got in restaurant BEFORE they came down. Had room 127......upstairs at rear of building. Hotel I think is little old.....and long walks, door way, steps until I found my room. Room was ok.......dumped my stuff and went to eat. Service was alright...staff seem to chat with people in bar....and happy feel to place. I ordered meal, and others came in or were already seated....service was smooth and good. I had my meal and returned to room. Wi-Fi was good...... Water a bit slow.....main light in bathroom not working...but had light over sink which was fine when I had a bath. found hot water comes out cold tap in sink unless you let it run a while......pipes must travel near each other......but ok. As ever when I stay in Norwich (for work) I use PC,read and relax. Kettle was big enough for MY big mug. Tea,music and read before taking stuff to car and heading for breakfast. Gave key back once I had put stuff in car. I have asked if I can have one of the cottage (I think they call them) rooms,i had one on my first stay when I stay next week. We shall see... Not a bad hotel, served my needs.

    « Avoid Room 126 »

Really nice looking hotel, lovely bar and restaurant area and the staff were great too. Unfortunately in room 126, although a nice clean room, the sounds of water and pipes kept waking me up during the night and there was practically no pressure in the shower.

    « Decent, friendly hotel »

This is a pleasant hotel, set in an old building which has character. Nice bar and restaurant. Rooms have all the basics and are comfortable. The staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. The Garden Room is brilliant for families.

« Ok, but there is much better »

Stayed here for work. The hotel is very dated and the rooms need an overhaul... as do the bathrooms. The place is a bit of a warren and is not overly suitable for people with mobility issues. The shower in my room (129) was pitiful, but the towels seemed new (thick and fluffy). I probably wouldn't stay here again. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss - the staff in there are very nice, but more organising of some kind of system needs to be done.

    « Mixed bag »

Stayed for 1 night as we were seeing some friends the next day. The staff were friendly and helpful. They have a well stocked, reasonably priced bar. Breakfast was very good - good choice, well cooked and quality ingredients (including gf toast). This is an old building and so you expect rooms to not be perfect but as well as a very soft bed the plumbing gurgled loudly all night meaning I didn't have a particularly good nights sleep. We did have a large bathroom, but the shower barely dribbled out. Might stay again but only if we got a better room.

    « Cheap and friendly »

Stayed here for 1 night as we were in Norwich for a concert. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room very clean, but a bit dated. Bed very comfortable and linen good quality. Main lights didn't function in the room or bathroom so had to make do with desk lamps and mirror light and shower was a dribble. We would have mentioned these things had we been staying longer but they didn't affect us. Overall decent value and convenient location for the city.

« Friendly staff and clean rooms »

We enjoyed our stay here. The staff were friendly and keen to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and warm. We had a teenager with us and it really was a triple room, as advertised, so it was a proper single bed and not just a sofa bed. We forgot toothbrushes and they happily supplied them free of charge. Toiletries were good. Breakfast was excellent: they had gluten free bread - even though they didn't advertise the fact, the smoked haddock was large and perfectly cooked and the cooked breakfasts really good. They had quality tea and coffee available in the rooms. The bar was very reasonably priced and they had a really good range of drinks. The downside - the double bed was so soft it was like a hammock and not great for a full nights sleep and the shower trickled water out so I ended up having to take a bath. Having said that we would be prepared to try the hotel again as it may just be that room...

« Convenient for uni visit »

Great hotel. Booked 2 single ensuite rooms for son and I. Really good value. Evening meal inexpensive and lots of choice. Breakfast very tasty and good value. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Late check out no problem. Looking after our luggage whilst we visited Norwich arts uni, no problem. Staff really seemed happy to be working there - very unusual these days. Well done!

« George best Western Norwich »

We had a lovely overnight stay at the George Best Western. It was my birthday and we had balloons thoughtfully placed on the bed. We were given the George Suite (attic room) which was fab although my 6'3" partner could only stand full height in certain parts of the room. I had asked for a bottle of chardonnay to be waiting in the room but this didn't happen so we happily bought our own although we did have to percure a glass from the restaurant. The room was really warm so we had to open lots of windows. We had the attic room so heat rises I expect. The food in the restaurant was very ordinary and we didn't have breakfast. The walk into Norwich is do-able from there but if you are wanting to get to the Riverfront then it's probably best by taxi. Will come again in the New Year.

    « Dog Friendly Hotel »

We desided to take a last minute break to the east coast, we don't generaly take our 10yr old lab on holiday unless we go camping. So a hotel and the dog was a leap into the unknown. This was a realy posative experience for us. The hotel allows dogs to stay in two of the " cottage suites" in a bungalow type building at the rear of the property. Or "suite"201. Entred via its own front door into a spacious double bedroom and large ensuite bathroom. Furnished to a good standard and typical of many similar hotels. The curtains were not to my taste but that is a personal thing. Dogs are allowed in the bar but not the rest of the main hotel. They sell real ale here and my Adnams beer was fine as was my wifes Aspels cider. Prices are reasonable your usual sort of pub price. We had breakfast in the morning which was pretty good. The staff we encountred were chatty and polite as were the other guests. The carpark is large and free. All in all an enjoyable stay in a comfortable bed and 20 miles from our final destination Cromer.

    « Friendly and welcoming »

Stayed one night 14/10/16 were given the garden room which was spacious and lovely, well equipped with little extras. ALEX and the bar staff were really welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We had a super meal in the restaurant. We are looking to return again in December...relaxed atmosphere and smiling staff...

« Nice place to stay. »

I stayed here for one night in October and was allocated a double room which was very spacious and comfortable (despite the rather dubious mustard colour on the walls). I like individual hotels like the George and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The bar is well stocked and whilst I didn't eat dinner in the restaurant the cooked breakfast the next morning was superb. They even do properly cooked poached eggs....always a plus! One slight moan - the main building was apparently having water pressure / boiler issues which left the shower a lukewarm mist but the receptionist immediately knocked money off my bill in compensation.

    « Avoid »

Checked into this hotel 7th October, checked out again within 15 minutes. Was given keys to double room, had to negotiate several narrow corridors and door opening issues, upon arrival at our room we were met with a most obnoxious smell, which can only be described as like a wet dog had been sleeping in there. In need of total refurbishment. The staff were helpful in that they offered another room which unfortunately had the same smell as the first one. Would not recommend.

    « Needs refurbishment »

Why is it that I'm constantly disappointed with single rooms in hotels?! First room I was allocated had some sort of pipe work in a cupboard which made a horrendous noise as I was about to go to bed. Second room not noisy but had very little light. Carpet was grubby in the rooms and in general areas

    « Avoid »

This is a very poor heating or hot water for 3 days. Our room was Desparate and was both small ,smelt fusty, limited storage and poorly decorated and furnished.Shower was ineffectual when working and very difficult to enter/exit with no grab rails.Basically an accident waiting to happen.Public cloakrooms in the lobby very tired. The place generally did not seem cleanThe whole place needs a full investment and makeover.Staff helpful and food quite nice though. No lift. Overall this hotel should be avoided.Generally hopeless

« Three days stop at the above address »

We found the hotel sevice to be of average for the price we paid the bed and breakfast charge. The room was room was of poor qualirty and neds a refit with a new bath room and fitting. The breakfast was of average and the service was good,

    « Mixed review »

We stayed here for one night after taking our daughter to University. The service was great. The only member of staff we saw seemed to do everything from checking us in to serving drinks. He is a credit to the company and I wish I'd got his name. We had a problem with our room. There was a dreadful constant noise from the heating system so my husband reported it. The same man came to see what it was and moved us straight away. I haven't given the hotel full marks because it looks very tired and is in need of modernising. The shower was a trickle albeit plenty of warm water. The bed was very comfortable so had a good night sleep which is the main thing. The cleanliness could do with improvement. Under the bed was very dusty. Saying all that for the money we paid, the service and location we would stay again. Next time we'll try the restaurant in the hotel as the food looked lovely.

Change my room 3 times, 1st room turned shower on and the shower head fell and broke looks like someone tried to do a diy job, 2nd room shower didn't even work 3rd room room was clean but if u wanted to wash the shampoo of you, your in for a long wait. But cannot fault the staff friendly and they did all they can!!

    « Wonderful Weekend Away »

Great Staff upon check in, were very friendly and respectful. I think he said his name was Tom. The room was spacious and the bathroom was very nice too. The food was amazing. I had the Lamb Steak which I really enjoyed. The young blonde girl who served us was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Check out was just as good as Check in.. Hannah was lovely. Thank you overall for a great stay. I would definitely recommend this place

« The George Hotel, Norwich »

This is a medium sized very comfortable hotel 15 minutes walk to the city of Norwich. We checked in and were given a fabulous room with a king sized bed. This hotel has a very nice cosy bar with excellent service. Drinks are not too expensive. There is a lovely seating area just outside .Breakfast at this hotel is superb, They provide an excellent buffet and also serve hot food. Their fruit salad is outstanding as is the hot food. Staff are very efficient and helpful.

« Cultural wasteland that is Norwich »

Excellent staff made an otherwise good stay great, they could not do enough to make the stay pleasurable, their local knowledge was excellent and tended to my every need. The hotel is quite old but this defines character rather than the big chain hotels which you shut the door and you never know where you are. Excellent price and value

    « Not Great! »

Stayed here for one night on a business trip, could choose any hotel in the area however chose this due to convince to the University rather than price (there were cheaper hotels, some with gym and pool facilities in the area) Hotel is very dated and un kept. The walls were dirty with a tea stain down the wall by the light switch in my room on arrival. ( walls in general had lots of marks on) Bedside lamps stained, alarm clock full of dust on the bedside table, dirty spoon on the tea tray) Bathroom seemed newly refitted although taking a shower was a long process as it took a while for the water to get hot in the evening and the water pressure was very slow. I was in a ground floor room which seemed to have the water or heating pipes running along the room, it was extremly warm with no air conditioning and constant sound of the pipes (almost like the heating was on) through the night. I tried to have the window open however with the heavy vegetation outside I had to content with several daddy long legs, spiders and beetles during the evening...there was no way I wanted to be greeted with any further insects during the night. The walls are paper thin, upstairs were stomping about and people coming and going outside my room (think I had janitor or staff rooms outside) you could hear everything. I ate in the restaurant in the evening. There were two menus to choose from (feeling rather tired I ordered a sandwich and soup and aimed for an early night) The soup was lovely, chips were fab however the sandwich was served on extremly stale brown bread which needless to say was un-eaten. Not really much positive to say to be honest. Staff were ok, it was very quite when I arrived...the staff in the bar and restaurant were mostly playing on there phones but we're fairy attentive to me (only person in there) I wont choose to stay here on my next visit I will go elsewhere.

    « Clean But.... »

Although my single room was spotlessly clean, crisp white sheets can't disguise the ancient mattress that just sags/crumples when you sit or lay on it. It's ok in your grandma's spare bedroom cos she's had it since 1974 but not ok in a hotel. The other down was the noise. It is a creaky old hotel which is fair enough but the walls are paper thin so you hear every conversation of passing guests in corridor (I'm not too interested in the problem the lady was having with her tights!) + fire door outside my room has hinges that squeel every time they are opened by every guest that passes + I'm currently listening to next doors bath running. Staff were very pleasant, & it was relatively cheap @ £60 for a single but I won't be rushing back.

    « Dire »

Stayed for a business meeting booked in by the university. I have never written a bad review before but the owners of this place need a wake up call. Other than an unhelpful receptionist when I arrived, the staff were excellent, attentive, flexible and polite. Unfortunately the room was appalling. Bathroom tiny, linoleum floor uneven, thick black mould round the bath, the bath itself scratched plastic and the shower simply unusable. The only way to wash my hair was to take the shower head off and hold the pipe over my head. Eat here maybe but stay somewhere else.

« Good food and excellent Garden suite »

We stayed here for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend. We booked the garden suite as we wanted a bit more space to relax. The 2 bed room is like a house at the back of the hotel and was exactly what we needed. Big leather sofas and the kitchenette was great! My only criticism was that the floor needed a really good clean downstairs and it was a struggle not to flood the wet room. The little terrace could do with some new furniture too. We ordered room service on the Friday evening and the food was lovely and fresh. The breakfast selection was great and made a change to get hot food to order rathe than a hot buffet. We will definitely stay again!

« Nice Food, Shame About the Rooms »

We went here for a long weekend while visiting friends. The positives were the food at breakfast - not the usual Best Western buffet scrum down but cooked to order and very good. The waiting staff were generally good and the reception staff were always attentive and helpful. BUT... We were put in a room in an outbuilding called "The Cottage". DO NOT STAY THERE. The rooms are dated, poorly designed and not fit for purpose. They would work well for single people but for couples it's a tight squeeze, the bathrooms are dangerous with slippery tiling on the floors and incredibly badly designed with a huge step in and out of the shower which could be completely impractical for anyone with mobility issues as there is NOTHING to hold on to. My view is The George is trying to market itself as an upmarket bistro with a Hotel attached and Best Western should be a lot better than this. Demolish The Cottage, completely renovate and re-design the rooms and you might have a decent property on your hands. At the moment, unless you're going for a meal alone, I can't recommend it at all.

« Very impressed with the whole experience »

We had our reservations reading the reviews on TripAdvisor especially with staying with a 5 week old baby, but I'm pleased to say that we couldn't have asked for more. We stayed in the Garden Suite which had 2 bedrooms and a living area and kitchenette. The rooms were reasonably priced, tidy and comfortable, with the only drawbacks being that the carpets were well used, and the shower/wetroom seemed to overwhelm the drain. Both of these weren't show stoppers for us as we felt the place was clean enough for a newborn and we had loads of room for all the newborn paraphernalia. These minor issues could be easily dealt with by Best Western to bring up the room another notch. Overall; very pleased.

First the good news. Generally friendly, professional service, excellent breakfast (it would cost you £11, by the way, if it wasn't included), well-stocked bar with efficient barman who knew was a "large Scotch" meant without having to ask (£5.40 in case you're interested). Clean room, decent-sized telly (which, amazingly, was easy to turn on and off). Now, the not-so-good. Very antiquated, noisy plumbing. No cold water from hand basin (this was fixed on the second of two-day visit by a friendly and professional plumber). Tepid water for bath or shower if taken between 07,30 and 08.30. Finally, I was charged £85 per night (Monday and Tuesday, mid-August), when a friend of mine, a regular guest, assures me he has never paid more than £70 (sometimes £60), even this year. I would suggest £85 is a tenner or more above what I would expect to pay for b & b at an out-of-centre, small-city, 3-star hotel. And, of course, it's not the hotel's fault if people slam doors at 6 in the morning and start shouting up the corridor about how many medals "Team GB" (what a ghastly expression) had won at the Olympics the night before!

    « Avoid unless necessary »

I stayed here for one night as it was very close to my business meeting the next morning. All I can say is that you should avoid this hotel unless absolutely necessary!! The room smelt musky and unclean. The light above the sink didn't work, the shower was a complete joke in terms of pressure! I would have been better off boiling the kettle a few times to wash my hair. Also I was on the front and as the windows are old the noise of everyone coming in and out was pretty bad! I mentioned the light to the receptionist on check out as well as the water and she just half laughed and said she knew!!!! I would strongly advise this hotel closes down for a serious refurbishment!!!!!! Admittedly my single room was only £60 per night but I think even this is over charging! On the plus side the food in the restaurant was lovely!!!!

    « Absolutely dreadful »

What a disgusting hotel!! The entire place smelt of urine and mould. The bedrooms were not in a good condition with bizarre stains on the walls and floor. The quality of the water pressure was appalling and very little water dribbled out of the dirty shower head. Front of house staff did not seem to care when raising the issue of the shower and just said "yeah, we've told our manager, not much we can do!" Dreadful hotel.

« Not the best Western at all »

We don't normally stay at best western hotels as I have heard there not the best at all so I have always avoided them . However on this occasion we did not have any option. Well all the bad things I have heard were well founded, the best thing about this place was the fantastic car park, beautifully presented clean nice fencing a few shrubs ,excellent and that's where the whole thing stops from the reception on wards it's a disaster. The staff were pleasant enough but the place is tired the furniture hardly matches anything the carpets were worn colour faded with wear and dusty and musty smelling. The room was full of dust and marks on the wall, the bathroom tiles were dirty the grouting was black in places and the notice from people standing outside our room was arwful. We asked to be moved and the receptionist told us ok because she had already had complaints about a large group staying there and the noise aNd she said trying to keep them under control was not easy and she had ,had a bad day. Well our next room was extremely dusty, marks on walls the black out blind was all freed around t he edges and would only go up half way as a knot had been tied in it . Upon waking in the morning I had what looked like red bite/blotches on my legs and arms mmmmmmm ? Any way I am going to complain to the best western hotels and show them the photos as I was completely disgusted. I would never stay here again or at any other best western.

    « Noisy the weekend I stayed »

I stayed at the Hotel for a local wedding with my family in 2015. Its facilities were about average for the standard of Hotel, the staff were pleasant and the food was reasonable in quality and price. My room was a little woebegone, but comfortable enough. Unfortunately the hotel had booked a wedding party into one part of the Hotel and the loud music went on to the early hours depriving everyone of sleep. I complained to the company's customer relation department, and was impressed by their offer of three free rooms if booked during that year, as my wife makes frequent trips to Norwich to take her wheelchair bound brother to his hospital appointments. However, I was less impressed when each time I tried to book a room for her at the Hotel, they were fully booked. In the end I gave up trying.

    « Norwich best Western »

The royal hotel was very pleasantN Nice bar. also with a few tables outside for drinks and food in the sunshine. Breakfast was very good with a good menu Also the dinner menu was very varied for all tastes Room I had was very comfortable

« Definitely not 'Best' western »

How disappointing. The whole place smelt very badly, musty and stale. The corridor smelt as bad as the rooms. Single beds were very small. I had to lie diagonally in bed just so I could straighten my legs (and I am only 6 foot). Our shower had virtually no power at all. Our friends room was the same but with only cold water. No hot shower! None of us will ever consider staying there again. Not a good advert for Best Western!

    « Another Western....but not on TV.....but bit dated... »

Best Western is MY Favourite BRAND.....My beloved Brook (BW) was full...(2nd fav also full).and the Brook is MY all time fav..... But I like BW....and The George did surprise me....I have driven past what I had wrongly thought was the hotel. The sign being on corner of busy road near center of Norwich....The George is a little way from the road.... and provided quite accommodation. A gravel car park made me think car movement would disturb me as my room was in the cottage suites...a building just across car park from main building....but it was fine. My room 202 I feel was a little small with bed needing most of the space....dated furniture and few power sockets behind old dressing table/desk unit. One other socket behind a chair was easier to unplugged kettle to use with my pc. Bathroom smelt of paint...and looked as if it had just been refitted. Smell went with window open for evening. Had a meal in bar....then breakfast in restaurant next morning...both ok. Wi-Fi worked fine. Note to Sarah Mercure.....The George has biscuits :)))))))))))))))) Work had only asked me the afternoon of day before if I could cover duties in Norwich has of late been very busy....The Brook and My second fav hotel were full. But The George turned out to be better than I thought. Needs update...but as I wrote...bathroom had paint smell and looked as if it had just been hotel working on the rooms. ONE bad room faced sun rise...and with only venetian blind it allowed sun to light up the room from around 4am......NOT WHAT I WANTED. Please fit proper out ones even better

    « Rather tired »

Alas, this hotel is typical of many under the Best Western banner - old fashioned, rather tired and more expensive than local comparative competition. The bath and shower were particularly poor, there barely being enough pressure to wash the shampoo out of my far from think hair using the old shower attachment. The hotel bar was closed at a little after 11 pm and myself and my colleague got a rather curt response when we enquired politely whether we could be served, again at odds with much of the local competition who are happy to serve (well behaved) guests into the wee hours. I doubt very much I will be paying a return visit.

« Great place for a quiet city break in Norwich »

Norwich is a lovely place for a city break, plenty of shopping , nearby is the Norfolk Broads and the coast. this hotel is just of a main road so easy to find but very quiet at night with no traffic noise. The staff are very good and the food in the restaurant is high quality.

    « Good location »

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights before going onto our week break in Hunstanton. We booked a double room through and was suprised to be given a suite in the eaves (appeared to have the entire top floor). The room and bed were huge with also a very large bathroom with jacuzzi bath and seperate shower. The only downside was areas of the room hadnt been dusted for some time (glass bedside lamps as an example) the staff were friendly and polite. Good choice of breakfast which was very tasty. This hotel us situated within a 20 mins stroll to centre of the town which has a vast assortment of shops and restaurants.

« the 3.5 review is about right »

Great location, parking good, bar good, a normal cheap hotel, I would think great for a group, just a little grubby particularly hall carpets. We had a very large room massive bed but friends ended up with a very small bed.

« Very enjoyable stay at the George Hotel »

I recently led a group of 40+ senior people to stay here for 5 nights. All the staff are excellent - friendly and efficient. The food is equally good, both dinner and breakfast. The hotel is well located for visiting the area and has good parking facilities. However, the hotel is a little "tired" and some first floor rooms had quite low water pressure. I understand that some renovation will be carried our next year.

« Quiet, friendly small hotel »

It's not the lap of luxury, but it's a friendly, cosy, small hotel in a decent quiet location. I'm not sure what people are expecting when they stay and leave a bad review. It's not beautiful, but it is clean and comfortable. Best bonus was that the windows actually open, which is not usual for hotels these days. Shower is a bit rubbish though.

    « Weekend Stay »

This hotel is in a very good location, within walking distance of Norwich town centre . The staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The rooms vary in size and furniture so best to ask if you have particular requirements. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.

    « Poor Hotel »

Could not get into our usual hotel so went with this as the reviews were OK and fairly near to town. Accommodation was a side building and it reminded me of an emergency spare room in your mates house. Mattress smaller than frame, old furniture. Bathroom had just been renovated though. Next day found that they had dumped the old bathroom against the side of the building, including the old toilet! Why did I look there you may ask? Well during the night there was a thunderstorm and was kept awake by the sound of gushing water by the window - the one with the mis-matching curtains. Anyway in the morning, tired and a little irritable checked it out and found that the drainpipe was dis-connected to the guttering. Breakfast was fine, and although we did not use the restaurant look decent. Will not be going back there.

« Decent hotel with great staff »

I have been staying here for the past few months whilst working away on business. Great staff, comfortable rooms, and good service. The ?Arlington Grill' restaurant do lovely steaks, and the bar food is always excellent, with frequent weekly specials. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk into the middle of Norwich town, give or take 5 minutes depending on your pace. All rooms have en-suite bath & shower, tea/coffee making facilities, and a TV with access to many Free-to-air TV channels. There is also a large TV in the bar area so you can still get to see your favourite TV programme whilst settling down for something to eat or enjoying a good ale/beer/cider. As long as the other guests agree of course! It's always the staff that do it for me though, and you can't beat great customer service. From Hannah on reception, Judith in the restaurant to the people behind the scenes that make everything tick. Too many people to mention really. However?.. if you happen to meet the very helpful and friendly Duty Manager Will (Davison) you won't be disappointed. Just a nice all round fella, who will go out of his way to ensure you get the best service possible. From knowing what your favourite tipple is when you walk in the bar to giving advice on things to do and see in Norwich. I can't commend him enough. Just an example? my room key broke in the door lock whilst I was trying to gain entry, which then resulted in me being ?locked out' of my room. I reported the issue to reception, and Will being the Duty Manager at the time, followed procedures and reported the incident to Hotel Management. But then took it upon himself to ask other residents around the bar/restaurant area if anyone could help resolve the problem. There was talk of calling in a Locksmith at one point. Whilst I waited in the bar area for any resolution, Will appeared with the said broken key bit and a pair of pliers. He had managed to fix the problem himself. Talk about thinking on your feet. Needless to say he had exceeded my expectations, and I was again able to gain entry to my hotel room with a spare key. Well done Will, awesome service.

    « A very average hotel. »

Although this hotel is reasonable value for money, provides all the facility you would expect from this standard of establishment it is very tired and projects a uninviting ambience. The food at breakfast and the evening meals are of good standard but the restaurant layout, furnishings and décor are dull and not conducive to ensure an enjoyable dining experience. The bar area reminded me of a village hall on a wet and cold winters evening. The staff are willing and helpful be are mainly young and under training. Bedroom and bathroom clean but very dated and small with poor sound insulation between rooms. The hotel is about 20 minutes walking distance from the city centre.

    « tired and noisy »

hotel is in good location to city .easy to take taxi. problem was noise in the forcourt banging car doors. decor tired and had problem with water pressure from shower .bar was comfortable .lounge reasonable but hallways to bedrooms very dreary and tired carpets

« My stay a the George in Norwich »

Bar and Dining room were fine but bedrooms in definite need of refurbishment, the bulbs in the lights were of such a low wattage could hardly see. The bathroom tatty, no extractor fan in the windowless bathroom or grab rail for the getting out of the bath. Car park small but could accommodate a lot more cars if spaces were marked out. Further away from city centre than I expected, had an evening first night which was delicious although not cheap. Hotel busy took ages to serve coffee at breakfast - would be better with self service for beverages and shortage of food until staff had enough time to fill up dishes.

« Double check your booking before you arrive! »

Booked 2 double rooms here in October 2015 through Best Western Family and Friends for the 4th June 2016, rang the week prior to pay for these rooms to save us doing it on check-in as we were attending a concert in the area and wanted to quickly check in and get on our rooms had been cancelled by the hotel and apparently they had sent me an email 3 weeks prior to tell me this (no email received and no-one had called me to check I had received email) I was then given a story about there apparently being a burst pipe and they had to close the section of the hotel that our rooms were booked in manager was also available for me to speak to and I was to wait for someone to call me back within the took 3 hours for someone to call me back! I ended up having to call nearly every hotel and guest house in Norwich trying to get 2 rooms for the night we required them and everywhere was fully booked, the George then offered me two single rooms and a room at another Best Western which would be at a significantly higher rate, I decided as I had no other choice I would have to take this option. I then rang the other hotel and paid for the other room, then 3 days before we are due to arrive at both hotels, I receive an email from the manager of the George, the other Best Western had overbooked and could no longer accommodate that room and had refunded our card with the money paid, but they had found me a room at BnB a 30 minute drive away! No other choice but to take this option as it was the only one offered to me.... After all of this I really didn't want to stay at the George but thought it's only 1 night, well I wish I had slept in my car! The smell as you entered is like an old peoples home, the furniture dates back from 1970, the "single" room was more like a cupboard, the bed I wouldn't even say was a single bed, the quilt barely covered me (understandable if I was above the average size, I'm a 12) the shower needed a good clean, one of the plug sockets didn't work and I think I got around 2 hours sleep due to the floorboards creaking above me..... The only good thing I have to say about this hotel is the cooked breakfast was lovely as was the lady who served it, the general manager could pick up some customer service tips from her!

    « A convenient stay »

We stayed overnight at this hotel for a concert event at the football club. It was very convenient to the city centre but parking was very limited at the hotel on arrival. However the staff kindly rearranged their vehicles top let us park which was great. The room was small but has all the essentials, including kettle and free wifi. The shower switch did not work properly and the bathroom was also rather small. The decor of the room is due for a refreshment. For the price we paid we were expecting a little bit more :(

    « overnight stay »

Good location within walking distance of the city so could leave the car at the hotel, hotel rooms could do with updating as the shower was rubbish and carpet quite tatty looking. However bed was comfortable .

    « Weekend at the George/Norwich »

Attractive on the outside. Not much going for it on the inside. The double room was small. The walls were paper thin. You could hear every bathroom movement from next door. Furnishing of the room was basic. Nothing to write home about.

« One of the best night stay »

Stayed only the one night would not hesitate to go back the food was fantastic the saff were helpfull very friendly a clean room comfortable bed the bar decor area could do with an updated but overall I would recommend this hotel

    « Room »

The quality of the room was poor with a not very nice smell, it was clean but had a horrible odour. Unfortunately sleeping was difficult with the snoring from other guests. cant fault the location near the centre of the city

« Good for a one night stay »

Stopped here for a night, and it did the job. The staff were friendly and polite and the room (Room 12) was clean and tidy. The issues I had: 1) Parking can be a bit of a nightmare at this hotel, 2) The breakfast here is way overpriced at £11, I didn't even bother having it here as that is a mad price. 3) The walls are thin i could here the TV from the next room.

« Wish I had booked the Premier Inn »

Car park full on arrival. Informed that I could just block people in. Declined the offer & parked on a tight side street, praying that my wing mirrors were not dislocated from my ride. As I lay awake in my child size bed at 6am the next morning, wrestling with my miniature duvet which had a mind of its own, I could hear people crunching on the car park stones making an early morning getaway. Gazing around at the early light catching the 1970`s decor I felt glad to be alive & smug that I had avoided a verbal altercation with another bleary eyed guest. Decided to wash away an uncomfortable nights sleep with a nice power shower, to be disappointed by a trickle whilst being attacked by the shower door. was curious to see whether the hotel had trapped previous dwarf guests & had them working hard with child size watering cans. The 3 star AA rating was either gained in 1971 or given by an assessor who was taking his first forages in to the world of legal highs. Should have booked a Premier Inn.

    « Just the Job »

currently staying in room 114 (single room) booked last minute and arrived at midnight. the Night Manager was very friendly and checked me in quickly so I could go and relax. room is exactly as expected and nothing like the nonsense reviews I have seen on here. for a historic building the fixtures and fittings in this room are as good as can be expected! I am now down here pretty much every week if not fortnight for the foreseeable and will be using this hotel as my base rest assured!

« A little disappointing and everything creaks! »

Part of the Best Western brand this hotel is set in an up market, quiet suburb and is a 10 -15 minute walk from the city centre so it's in a great location. But given what you might expect it is a little disappointing. The rooms are well equipped with decent sized bathrooms, comfy towels and complimentary shampoos etc, but despite it being a warm day the central heating was on. The bed was not particularly comfortable and, being an old hotel, every floorboard and door seems to creak and the walls are quite thin which makes it impossible to sleep during the day (particularly if you have been put next to a service room). Staff are helpful and friendly, food is good but quite expensive. Breakfast at £11 is a rip off. The car park is often over crowded in the evenings and I was encouraged to either double-park or try to find a space in the road outside. It is fine, it is safe, clean and ( just about) comfortable but for such a good brand in such a good location I had hoped for better

    « Fab food! »

Yet another fab meal had at The George. Great freshly cooked food at reasonible prices, all served by lovely staff. Have eaten here several times and can not fault it and will definitely be going to eat here again.

« Would stick to Premier Inn next time »

Rather disappointed. Not a cheap hotel & breakfast is expensive. The room was rather stuffy & as it was on the ground floor we were unable to leave the window open. The shower was very poor too. The room however was clean & & tidy with free tea & coffee. Location is quite nice, although being a residential area it's a little noisy on a Sunday morning. Next time I think I'd go back to the premier inn in the city centre

    « Great service »

We had a fantastic meal at lunchtime yesterday and the service was excellent. We were served by two waitresses Judith and Shelby who couldn't do enough for us. They were professional, polite, went out of their way to please us and meet all our requests. We would definitely go back again especially if Judith and Shelby were the waitresses. The meals we had in our large group of people were also really lovely.

« Will try to find a better place »

Staff were friendly and nice, not problem with this at all, but by the time we opened the door of the room they gave us, a nasty smell came off to our noses,so we opened the windows and the smell disappeared. The toilet was very big and clean, but at some point of the evening, I dropped my phone off and when I get down to pick it up I found underneath the bed an unimaginable amount of dust that made me think that they only were cleaning superficially... That was very disgusting. I'm not expecting to be in luxury room, but the cleanness, for me, is very essential in every area, corner, place of the room that I'm paying for. We also had a little problem with the shower and is that the water coming out didn't have force enough so we need to take showers of at least 30 minutes time. For the rest it was fine for us like the location, the style and staff.

« Vow Renewal 'bit of a do' - wow »

Had our original reception at the George 10 years ago and so decided to return to have a celebration anniversary/vow renewal party. We were wonderfully looked after as always. The room looked lovely, the food was scrumptious and hot and we had a lovely time. We stayed overnight in the Garden Suite, as we did the first time and had a very comfortable stay. Breakfast the following morning was very good and kept us going all day. As ever we were very well looked after and will definitely return. Thanks Julie and the team.

« Memorable for all the right reasons »

I just had a party to celebrate with friends and family my dad's 70th birthday. The food was delicious, exquisite in fact. We organised a 3 course menu with choices for our 26 guests to select and we were delighted with the results. From the very start, Julie the manager and Jane the COnference and Banqueting Manager were so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The chef was so patient with our fussy guests with dietary needs, he was really accommodating. The table was so beautifully dressed for a party, they even allowed us to bring our own decorations to add to the ambience. The service, the setting the staff, all was faultless and we cannot recommend it highly enough. We are mostly Norwich born and bred as well as having invited guests from all around the country, equally they all had a great time and loved the party and food. I would say the food was at a high end brasserie level, this restaurant is a hidden gem in Norwich. It has a car park and perfect to meet with family and friends. Thank you to all the Best Western George Hotel Team for making this party so memorable for all the right reasons!

    « Fantastic stay »

From the time I arrived till the time I left in the morning I was made to feel welcome by all the friendly staff. The room was spotlessly clean and newly decorated and the food in the grill was well cooked and tasty. I will certainly use this hotel again if I have to stay in the area, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends

« Will avoid next time »

I uploaded lots of photos of my not great room as I have so much work to do I didn't bother complaining so maybe they would have put me in a better room if one exists but number 1 the wardrobe was something growing in it so best not to put my clothes in there. Also lots of damp as the photos show I am sitting in the restaurant at the moment beer is good and I will post a photo of the meal. I don't think I will frequent this hotel again it needs lots of TLC it's old and ran down such a shame.

    « Weekend away for a birthday »

had won tickets for the game fair at the Norfolk show ground looked for a hotel found the George booked a double room on the best western website only family rooms left so we took that booking . We were so surprised we go t the garden suite at the George it was fantastic so sweet and secluded really nice for out romantic weekend for my other half birthday . The staff at the George were friendly and helpful the food was good couldn't really fault this place at all, will be going back and booking the suite agian

    « :) »

What a lovely hotel :) room was much bigger than I expected after looking at the reviews , bed was really comfy , staff are brilliant ,especially the younger boy ( can't remember his name ) he was fantastic everything we needed he was always there .. If we come back to Norwich we would defiantly stay here :) thankyou for a lovely stay!

« Nice hotel, great staff »

Efficient, friendly staff, pleasing room, lovely bathroom, great breakfast. There is a bar/restaurant which looked like a good independent pub, though we did not have an opportunity to eat or drink there apart from at breakfast. Ample parking, handy for the city. Would be happy to recommend it for business or pleasure/

« The best western, George Hotel - terrible »

The hotel and rooms were dirty, had bags of dirty linen in the corridors, surplus furniture stacked in the corridors. broken tiles in the bathrooms and broken bath panels. Some bedrooms were very small, dark and dingy. All areas needed cleaning/hovering. Well below average for what you expect from a best western.

« On bus route to Norfolk & Norwich Hospital »

Stayed here for 4 weeks on & off in various single rooms whilst my husband was in the NNUH. This is an old building, so there are narrow corridors & creaky floorboards as would be expected. All the rooms I stayed in had different layouts but were clean & the beds were all comfortable. The only tip I would give is that the ground floor rooms have better water pressure in the shower. This hotel is only 10 min walk from the city centre & as I said in the title it is on a frequent bus route to the hospital. I didn't eat in the hotel, so can't comment on this, but all the reception staff I had contact with were very friendly & made me feel welcome. Will definitely stay here again if I visit Norwich, although hopefully it won't be because someone is in the hospital!

« Perfectly good, but nothing special »

My son & I stayed for 2 nights, the room was ok with a double & single bed with a decent size bathroom & nice fluffy towels, however the general decor was tired & the rooms smelt musty. The shower was very weak in the bathroom (room No. 132) & it took forever to rinse my hair! We didn't have breakfast at the hotel & the only contact with staff was at check in & check out, where they were perfectly nice.

« Very comfortable but needs improvements. »

The staff were helpful and the bed was extremely comfortable but the room was a little lacking. They could do with a lick of paint and a few minor things but was okay overall. The restaurant was excellent on the plus side!

    « Norwich »

I stayed here on business, and I can safely say that I will be using this hotel again for any future visits. There might be quite a few stairs around in the building, but this is to be expected of a lovely old building like this.

    « staff just fantastic »

we booked the Newmarket suite for a large family, birthday meal- couldn't fault anything- very flexible, personable people to deal with, at all levels- great food and the Garden suite (where we stayed is very unique: our kids loved it!) many thanks

« Average would be a good description »

I stayed at the hotel for one night while on business. The room was unfortunately a twin rather than a double which I had requested. The trouble is the single bed was very single, turning over in the night was definitely a challenge. The small duvet fell off when I turned anyway, so not the best night's sleep. A couple of other minor problems were that the curtains did not fit the window, so at first light it was like being in the glare of a pair of car headlights (yes a sunny day in Norfolk), and my waste bin had not been emptied from the night before. I decided to go out to eat so cannot comment on dinner. Breakfast was reasonable. There was a good choice of items to be had and the service was friendly. So, not bad, but not brilliant either.

« Great food and staff simply fantastic »

I stayed here for two nights, the rooms may be a little tired but they were spotless the food in the restaurant was simply brilliant. The mussels were amazing and the sea trout cooked perfectly. The shining stars of this hotel are Will, Tom and Judith they made staying away from home not so bad, the service was excellent and a welcome l would challenge anyone to find better. Thanks guys we may see you again if we are your way.

    « Overall Excellent »

Had a great stay in the hotel, I've written this review to complement the staff, to a person they were fantastic. Thank you. Breakfast excellent and cooked fresh, good choice. Restaurant in the evening was great value and the food was lovely well worth a try. Room was tired but quiet and acceptable but could do with a refresh. Overall great and another thank you to the staff for making me feel valued you can be proud of your team. Paul and Janie Grantham

« Great location. Tired Hotel »

Friendly helpful staff from the moment we walked in the door of what could be a lovely looking hotel. Unfortunately it is showing it's age now and some of the rooms don't quite meet the high expectations that Best Western have set themselves in other hotels. Positives were the beds were extremely comfortable, great staff and the location. Only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Norwich. Negatives: Tired dated rooms. Poor showers.

    « Exactly as described »

Perfect for me! Being a professional musician on tour, I needed a ground floor room and parking for full size concert harp. This was booked very easily and the harp was safe as it was inside overnight. Staff were really friendly and my room was clean and warm. The food was excellent. I will certainly have no hesitation coming here again.

    « Lovely stay. »

I had a lovely overnight stay at this hotel, it was good value for money, clean and most of the staff were incredibly helpful. The only thing that slightly overshadowed my stay was a member of the night staff being particularly unhelpful. I came back to the hotel and asked if I was able to purchase a Diet Coke to take up to my room. I then asked how much this would be. I was told by this member of staff that he didn't have a password for the till and so he couldn't tell me the price. When I asked if there was anybody around who did have the till password, I was given a straightforward no and decided to leave it and head to bed. Aside from this, I had a really nice stay - the hotel is located close to the city centre and transport links are great. The hotel provided free wifi and a parking space which were incredibly useful.

    « Outstanding Stay »

Excellent room, first class service, handy parking, great location within easy walking distance of city centre, attentive staff, good wifi. While we didn't use the restaurant on this trip, it looked tempting and we will on our next visit. All in all, highly recommended for business or pleasure.

    « It's a bed. Not a holiday »

It's a reasonable place to spend a night for the price. The rooms are very dated and you only want to sleep in it. But the bar and food is good and it's a decent location to the city. Overall not bad but not amazing either. Staff were friendly though.

« Great to see investment..... »

The staff here remain marvellous. The reality is that over the past year or so the hotel has been looking increasingly tired. For this latest stay it was really really encouraging to see that a programme of investment and moving forward is underway. My room had nice new carpet, fresh paint, refurbished shower. Perhaps long overdue and not sure how long the programme will take to complete but really great to see. This stay was thus even more enjoyable than usual.

    « George Hotel Norwich »

Very friendly quiet hotel with excellent chef and helpful staff. very conveniently situated for short walk or frequent buses to city centre and sights. Rooms have individual character and you can choose a room with a bath if you prefer.

« Very good location for city visit with parking »

Arrived Friday evening for a two night stay. Ample parking space and friendly welcome at reception. Efficient booking in procedure and we were asked if we needed any help with luggage. Bedroom was small and very tired but warm and clean. Bathroom was also warm and clean but mouldy above the shower. Bar and brasserie area downstairs was warm and comfortable and staff were friendly and helpful. Delicious and freshly cooked evening meals both nights. Lovely breakfast, I had kippers but my husband was a bit disappointed with his supermarket sausage but the rest of his full English was well cooked and very tasty.

« Good value, centrally located »

Comfortable room and good quality food for dinner and for breakfast. The hotel is slightly tired, but clean and well stocked with tea and coffee. For business travellers it's close to Norwich city centre. Car parking is free on the premises

« Great meal poor hotel »

Bedrooms are small, walls are paper think.. You can hear all footsteps on the corridor. The evening meal was superb and staff where friendly. Nice and cheap but you can tell. If you stay on the bottom floor you can hear all movement upstairs. Overall good if you need a bed but there are better hotels around

« good value and ideal city location »

    # Value for money. # a little dated # excellent staff # excellent breakfast # comfortable bed. # ideal city centre location # did not try evening dinner, but menu looked good what more can I say. generally good value stay in city centre

    « OK »

This place is OK. Very basic in everything. Welcome was OK, room was OK, rather small and a long walk along squeaky corridors, could do with a bit of a facelift. Wasn't very good value at £85 room only. Had to wait quite a long time to be let in at midnight on a cold night. But apart from minor niggles it was OK!

    « Group tours »

We did 3 tours to this hotel during November with a full coach for each visit. Obviously with such a large group, needs of the few become more apparent and the hotel did their very best to swap and change to meet the passengers needs. Staff are immensely friendly and the food was enjoyed by all. The location is ideal as it's just a 10 minute walk to the city centre but just far away to be remain peaceful, look forward to next year

« In dire need of a facelift »

Stayed at this hotel for one night in October for a class reunion. Cannot fault the check in staff, they were friendly, professional and on hand to help with directions. The room I had, room 124 was dated, I had a small window that looked out onto a brick wall and a window into another building. The furniture was from at the latest the 60's! I can put up with that if the room is clean, the bed is comfortable and and shower is good. I can tick off the first 2 but the shower was absolutely appalling, the shower hose itself had the metal coming off and to say it was a dribble would be my being generous! I had driven a long way and wanted a good night sleep before driving home. About 7 am there was a cacophony of voices from underneath my room. All I can think that they had a coach load of people for breakfast! It was SO bad that I just got up, didn't have a shower, funnily enough and left. As I was checking out the young receptionist took my card and said 'that'll be £90 please' I told her that I had booked it for £60 and confirmed it on my booking so I paid £60. Afterwards she said that it was going up to £90 a night! I was gobsmacked! £60 was, in my opinion for room only, way too pricey. I would NOT stay here again!!

    « Mr Robin »

Just had a fantastic stay at the George hotel , Saturday night stayed in the garden suite very clean, warm and extremely comfortable, large walkin shower powerful with lashing of hot water. Full English breakfast 1st class as much as you could eat. Staff friendly and very helpful. We couldn't have aask forathing better. we would highly recommend this hotel.

    « I feel loved »

As a regular at this hotel - one night every week - I am always impressed by the welcome I receive. The hotel has an ecclectic variety of rooms, and the staff know which rooms I prefer and do their best to make this happen. My routine is such that the night porter knows I enjoy reading the Eastern Daily Press with breakfast, and lo and behold he tends to be outside the dining room with it poised and ready for my perusal. In essence the staff make me feel loved. I recognise that the hotel is slightly quirky, but I for one always look forward to staying there.

    « fantastic! »

My husband and I went to The George Hotel to have dinner for our 20th wedding anniversary. The food was amazing (some of the best cod I've ever had) and the service was quick and the staff were so friendly. The hotel has such a warmth to it and we will both definitely be coming back here! Thank you all for such a pleasant experience.

« Warm friendly town house hotel close to city centre »

Another coach full of guests going to Thursford stayed at this delightful hotel. Yes it is olde worlde with corridors and a few stairs( no lift but read the description first) . Meals served quickly and efficiently as we had a tight time schedule for Thursford.. Rooms adequate for short stay with usual BW toiletries and plenty of towels. We had a variety of room types, one heater was u/s but quickly replaced, our loft room 211 was enormous, occupying the roof space with large bathroom including Jacuzzi. The stairs to the room were steep and narrow so not suitable for many, and there was a colony of ladybirds in the bathroom window! All round a satisfactory visit which we will repeat next year.

« lovely, cozy place to stay »

This was my second stay in the hotel as my family has an annual get together in Norwich a couple of weeks before Christmas. The year before last, my brother and his partner couldn't get a room at our normal budget chain hotel and he ended up picking The George Hotel simply due to the location and the fact that they had parking. They were given a room in the cottage and were initially a bit dubious about being outside the main hotel. They ended up really loving their stay and encouraged us all to stay there together the following year. There are four double rooms in the cottage and we booked them all so we could be together. We loved our stay last year so came back again this year. There is a fair amount of parking which is free and this close to the city centre, that's not always the case. We've all always been able to park however the car park can get busy and this year there were coaches coming and going and they took up a fair bit of room. You check in in the main building and the staff are very polite, cheery and helpful. Last year I accidentally managed to lock myself out when I went to the room of one of our party and it was about 9 at night, very dark and freezing out and I felt so guilty when I had to call reception but a lovely girl ran straight over, tried not to laugh at me in my pyjamas, and let me back in. She must have been so cold as she didn't have a coat on, she couldn't have had time as she came right out, and she seemed more that happy to help. She wasn't at all put out and we both laughed about it. The rooms are all doubles with very decent sized bathrooms. The beds are lovely and comfortable and if you get cold there are spare blankets in the wardrobe. The bed is nice and soft but very supportive and I've always had a lovely nights sleep. There is bed side cabinet either side of the bed and a large desk with a TV and a well stocked hospitality tray on, so there are plenty of places to put your things. There is a good size wardrobe with hangers provided and room to put your suitcase or bag in the bottom if you want to get it out of the way. There are lamps either side of the bed within easy reach of the bed and there are enough plug sockets for a phone charger, hair dryer (one is provided but it looks a bit ancient) etc. The blind at the window is really good and keeps out most of the day light. There are complimentary toiletries in the bathroom and you're supplied with several towels to use. The whole place is very, very clean and cozy. The rooms are more than large enough for two people. The food in the restaurant is very good. The dinner menu isn't exactly cheap but it is very good quality and tasty and you do get large portions. Drinks with the meal were a tad dear. The breakfast is very good. It is £11.50 and we had a good quality full english, tons and tons of toast and as much as you can manage from the cold selections (yoghurts, fruit, cereals, pastries, meat and cheese). The sausages in the breakfast were good quality and cooked really well. The scrambled egg portion was a tad on the small size but you can always fill up on something else. Two of our party just wanted toast and asked how much that would cost as that was all they wanted and they weren't charged at all. This year one of the rooms had a broken wall heater in the bathroom and since it was a pretty cold and wet weekend, this was a bit of an issue. We went over to the reception and they said they'd send someone over to fix it but in the mean time they gave us a portable heater. We were a little concerned as we'd rather not have had plugs in the bathroom but it was cold and we needed to warm the place up. When we got back to the room we found that when we pluged the heater into the closest plug socket to the bathroom, the heater couldn't reach the bathroom. We informed the reception who then gave us the longest extension cord on the planet :-) No one came to fix the wall heater but we had the portable fire so it was comfortable however when we returned to the room the following day after going out, the extension cord had been taken away. We went to the reception again and told them that no one had fixed the wall heater and now the extension cord had been removed. The lady on the reception desk was very apologetic and said she would track down another extension and would bring it over asap, which she did. By the time we checked out the heater still wasn't working. The only other issue that any of us had this year was the water pressure in the showers. No one had a problem last year but this year, all of the showers were just trickling water. We weren't expecting a jet wash ;-) but this was quite slow. I suppose that the decor is a tad dated and some of the furnishings are showing a little wear and tare. There is a burn stain on the carpet in one of the rooms and the bathrooms are very pink. However since it's so clean, cozy and large, the staff are lovely and the food is good, you can easily over look the little things as they don't impact on your stay. On our departure this year, we booked all the rooms in the cottage for the same time in December 2016! We enjoy this place enough to keep going back so I'd definitley recommend this hotel to anyone.

« Food the only good thing about it »

This was our second visit to this Hotel a year on from the 1st. We stayed as part of a coach visit to the Thursford Christmas Show. On arrival the rooms were not ready and we were made to wait in the bar not enough seats many senior citizens in the party so not a good start. finally given key to room no lifts to any floor quite a small room for a double although the sheets on the bed were clean the coloured fabric strip along the bottom was filthy. the Bathroom door couldn't be shut or you wouldn't have been able to get out. No beakers for toothbrushes etc in the Bathroom. Radiator was cold and dispite turning it up was still cold at 11pm finally got it to work then it only worked on one setting Boiling Hot couldn't turn it down Windows didn't open and were covered in mould as was the shower screen the Shower didn't work thank goodness we were able to use the bath. A meal was booked for 3pm at 3.35 the orders were taken bearing in mind we had to leave at 4.45pm it was a bit of a rush to serve 40 plus people with only 2 waiting staff the food was good but a complete copy of December 2014. We never did have coffee as no time. A very noisy hotel squeaky floorboards and unfortunately we were next to door which banged shut everytime someone went through no fun at 4am. Room door had no outside door handle so had to bang the door to make it shut. Breakfast was not bad although the Decaff tea I ordered was the most discusting I have ever tasted and undrinkable. We only stay here because the tour company make the booking and if we ever go there again with this company hope things improve. I was told in reply to my review of the hotel this time last year that they had just a few bathroom to update I think they were lying nothing had been done and to be honest things had really gone down hill. Also 1 person to run bar ! Wouldn't recommend this place and can only hope the tour company find somewhere else to stay next year, 1 night was more than enough. Avoid room138 like the Plaque.

    « Don't go here! »

You'll be greeted with the smell of your nannies residential home, woken up at silly o'clock by the cleaners repeatedly slamming doors and coughing like there's no tomorrow. I left without showering, I'd have been dirtier when I got out if I had of used theirs. The toilet sounded like a harrier jump jet taking off so expect to wake your partner and half the hotel up if you go in the night. Don't waste your money.

    « Reunion »

Pleasant hotel with good staff and good service. Reasonably priced. Room was average but had all equipment. Average TV which could have done with modernising. Enormous bed which swamped a rather small room so there was little or no room to walk down one side or get out of bed without stubbing something!

    « Christmas party »

We have just had our work Christmas party at the George, it was a great night out, the food and service was first class and we could not fault it in any way. The waiters looked after all,of us very well all night, the food was piping hot which does not happen in a lot of paces catering for a large parties. We would highly recommend the hotel for a party night, well done the George and all the staff

« Friendly smiles greet guests throughout »

It is the friendliest hotel in Norwich, whenever guests arrive in Reception there's always a friendly greeting and this pervades throughout the hotel. Staff are always ready to go the extra mile to meet guest's requests. The chef serves up excellent dishes often using local produce.

    « Sunday Lunch »

Delightful Sunday lunch at The George. I returned following an overnight stay earlier and decided to have lunch. Good choice!! Great roast beef. Loved it!! Not expensive and absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it. Nice surroundings, friendly, courteous service. A real treat.

    « Not Great »

Second time I had stayed at the George. The first time I was in the cottage situated outside the main hotel. This time I was in the main hotel and it was shocking. The lady that arrived before was having to change her room for an issue which I did not catch. When I went to the room I was given, I found the toilet was running constantly and the lights in the room did not work. I went back to reception and told them I was unable to stay in that room, as I would not be able to sleep with water running all night and it wasn't safe with out the lights working. They very politely changed my room, but the only room left was a twin. That was not a great problem. I was told it was the best room there. That was probably not the best thing to say......! The room presented itself very nicely. Then I went for a shower. As it was late, it was dark outside. As I started to prepare to shower I realised someone was watching me. There was a lady in a house that was overlooking the room looking back at me. The bathroom window was both unfrosted and lacking a blind/curtain. I had to go out for the evening unwashed and just have a morning shower. When I mentioned it to reception I was told they'd report it to the maintenance man. I had no confidence that anything would be done, as there is no signs of previous shading. Food was nice and the evening service was good. The breakfast service was awful. To the point it was rude. I will not be staying there ever again

    « Interesting Rooms - questionable hotel »

We had the best rooms in the place - literally. Two of my son stayed in another set of rooms on the first floor and would never go back there. Ours was the very top. Maintenance on the building is lacking. Needs to have a lot of freshing up. DON'T eat at the restaurant. Terrible service. Several locals come in regularly (which is great) but the wait staff then just spend the time talking with them and not serving anyone. For the price there are better hotels around. Too bad, this is well located.

« Surprisingly comfortable despite neg reviews »

I stayed for two nights in October when it was quite chilly out. I was greeted by a nice young receptionist who sweetly carried my suitcase up the stairs and then came to my room and turned on the radiator after I mentioned how cold it was. That evening I ate a delicious supper in the lounge downstairs which was very convenient as I didn't have to go out again. My single room was small but comfortable and my bathroom commodious, although its radiator never came on, and the corridors were cold too, but at least my room was cozy. I parked both days in the hotel car park. Overall, all staff were friendly and helpful and my stay was great (and I am a fussy customer!).

« Birthday trip for my wife. »

We were put in the 'Honeymoon suite', shown to our room and offered assistance with our luggage, the last flight of stairs was a little tight, but the room was very nice, clean and warm. The bathroom again clean, if a little dated, but was perfectly good. Stayed two nights, 'Ate in' the first night and the food was great. All the staff were very helpful and looked after us very well. Location was good, we walked into Norwich city centre in about twenty minutes. Judging by our accommodation, which was very comfortable, we thought that the general decor was a little tired and the hotel was about due for a re-furb. Great location, great staff, great food, and all in all,a good experience which we would do again.

    « Tired hotel »

Not a very pleasant stay, out of date décor and bedding (only had a sheet and cover) in a tired hotel, breakfast poor quality. Luckily only had to stay one night, poor quality for a Best Western hotel.

    « Great Hotel »

This hotel was clean and the rooms modern. Staff were friendly and helpful. Full english was spot on. Great value for money. Well situated for touring around Norwich. Nothing seemed too much effort for the staff on dury.

    « Small Hotel »

A very average hotel that hasn't quite goot things right. Reception staff were very pleasant on arrivel but on depaarture quite indifferent. The room was also musty smelling. i had a bar meal - the George burger that was excellent and the chips were really great. The member of the bar staff who served me as lovely and very helpful. He even brought my food to my room. At breakfast it was as though I had slipped in unnoticed and one member of staff in particular was very inattentive and I had to stop him clearing taables to get a pot of tea. He got it grudgingly. i wouldn't hoose to stay here again but fear I might have to because I may have to come back for business. As a best Western Diamond member i am used to better service than i received here.

    « Shocking hotel »

Photos on best western website make this place look stunning someone is telling porky pies as this is not the case, our room 203 was cold smelt damp carpet was thread bare matress on bed sagged in middle shower didn't work bathroom on whole was not good we where shown another which was no better I wasn't staying here so I found another hotel lucky for us but the front desk where nice and helpful that's the only good thing. All the best western hotels we've stayed are 3* not this one no way.

« Needs Updating and Staff need Training. »

I booked four rooms for a one stay on Wednesday 7th October . Rooms very updated , shower didn't work, bath had hairs in it , carpet dirty in bedroom , radiator in bathroom so hot you burnt your leg on it ,don't try to get a drink from the night porter ! . All in all very disappointed I did speak to the General Manager but didn't really get any answers. The only good think we're the receptionist .. very helpful. Will not use again.

    « Nothing Special »

Stayed for four nights in a twin room from October 1st. Very dated bedroom and very dusty too. The bathroom was an absolute joke. The shower did not work.. The tiling was badly chipped and mouldy. To use the toilet you had to go at it sideways on it was so cramped. Beds very uncomfortable. duvets excellent. The saving grace for this hotel was the excellent staff. They really were that good. The food in the restaurant was very good value for money and the Adnams beer first class. Breakfast wasnt good value at £10.50.

    « Pleasent Stay »

The hotel is situated off the main road to New Market and very convenient if you have your own transport. It's a bit far from town if you are on foot. Rooms were adequate but a bit noisy as the partitions where a bit thin. Food was good and wholesome.

« I much prefer the George to a holiday inn! »

I stay one night each and every week and the staff consistently go out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. The latest example, this week, was that I had some trauma with my trusty (!) Brompton. I was able to use a private walled garden area to spend a happy half hour in the evening sun tinkering and fitting a new inner tube. A trauma turned to a joy. One wouldn't get that at a holiday inn or a travelodge!

« Two night stay was quite enough »

Rooms are very dated. The carpet was ripped in places all around the room. The bed was two singles pushed together with a mattress that did not fit this. The bathroom had a mixer tap shower which was so sensitive it was very hard to get the right temperature. The hotel could do with modernising and even just new carpet and paint in places. Breakfast was basic, when ordering bacon or sausages you get one item each. So it is worth ordering more of the menu. Bar, well as we were a wedding party and most of the rooms were booked by party guests we expected to be able to use the bar when we returned from the wedding venue. This was very difficult to arrange as the night porter would not allow it. After a while of discussing he finally agreed to open the bar. He then did not know about the drinks at the bar and the service was very long. I appreciate there was only him on the night shift but the hotel is full to capacity on a night and a wedding party was present I thought there would be more staff to contend with this as I cannot imagine the hotel is full often. I would not recommend staying here if you are after the comfort and want to spend more than the time sleeping at the hotel. Take a Travelodge as the price would probably be the same and you can normally trust that brand for what they advertise is what you get.

    « Night out »

There isn't anything special about this hotel, but is perfect if you're going out for the night in the city centre! Very close. Rooms are comfortable but very basic... Staff are nice and friendly- breakfast is fine but dining area is tiny! Would definitely return if I was going out for the night but not for a romantic setting. Good for value though.

« One night away stay »

Staff are very friendly and meal we had was nice ,the hotel looked worn but expected it anyways but was a last minute choice to stay with ex lol !??the price of the stay was abit on the high side but maybe would stay again if needed for a night close to my home
