"Great stay and awesome staff"

The staff were extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. The room was very comfy and quiet. The breakfast was amazing and extremely filling. I asked them to book a taxi to the airport for 9 and they had it ready to go for me. The view from the hotel is stunning. Will gladly stay here again.

We loved our visit as a family to this hotel. We had a lovely large room, which was in need of a little modernisation, but was clean and spacious with a most fantastic view and a bay window. The hotel is going through a little make-over atm, which I hope they make the most out of the art deco features as it's definitely one of the selling features. The bar is pricey but the bar manager couldn't do enough for you. The food is reasonable but I wouldn't say it was anything special. The staff are just delightful with many of them working there for many years so could tell you about the hotel and the local area. I would definitely stay there again

Thank you for your review. It is great to know you enjoyed your lovely spacious room which had a fantastic view and was clean. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme which has seen many of our first-floor sea view rooms receive newly fitted bathrooms. We are currently refitting our Cocktail Bar, Middle Lounge and Well Area and I am pleased to inform you that we are keeping the art deco features. I'm sorry to read you felt the bar was pricey and that the food was only reasonable. We do offer a variety of dining options, from Bar Specials, a set Bar Menu or dine in our main restaurant with a daily changing menu. We are very lucky to have many loyal staff who have worked at the hotel for several years and know the local area. It is pleasing to read you found them delightful. We hope to see you again soon.

We stayed for 1 night in a lovely spacious family room. The views were spectacular looking over Tolcarne beach. As it was bonfire night we were able to watch the firework display in the comfort of our room which was an added bonus. The room was spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable. The staff were all lovely, very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your spacious family room with spectacular views over Tolcarne beach. I'm sure it was a bonus to be able to watch the fire work display from the comfort of your room. People always enjoy celebrating New Year's Eve with us, as once they have toasted in the New Year, they are able to watch the fire work display which are set off from the harbour every year I will inform our team that you found them all lovely, very friendly and helpful. We look forward to your return.

Another 'Norman no-mates' business trip. First off, Parking. Road behind the hotel, Colvreath Road, private car park on the right marked 'Permit Holders Only'. Obtain parking permit from reception which has an entrance way almost directly opposite the parking down a short walkway. Lovely receptionist, very welcoming and helpful. I had a great first floor sea-view room, the road outside was not too noisy and it looked as if it had been newly refurbished, not sure about other rooms. Decided to eat in and was pleased that I did! Lovely tender and melt in the mouth slow cooked lamb rump, parmentier potatoes and mixed green beans. Will definitely be staying again.

A night at the Bristol was comfortable and quiet, with a room at the back of the property. Parking at the back of the property was free. Staff were helpful. Check- in was trouble free. We enjoyed a drink and dinner in the bar area. Breakfast was tasty, with a good buffet selection and generous English breakfast. Would stay again.

"Good location, good value"

Centrally located in Newquay. The cliff top is just the other side of the road, and the beaches are glorious! Free parking just behind the hotel. First impression was that the hotel could do with a little updating - though I quite liked the traditional ambience. There's a nice little lounge with a few quality sofas and armchairs - obviously a recently refurbished area - but it was a shame that this quality didn't flow through to the main lounge/bar which was somewhat basic and very lacking in character/charm. Big bedroom with a side sea view. Again a bit dated, but comfortable. Shower was completely hopeless though - little pressure, and took ages to warm up. Heated towel rail was off, and I didn't notice the poorly labelled on-switch outside the bathroom until next morning - should really be switched on before arrival, particularly during the cooler months. Couldn't get the radiators in the room to work. Central heating switched off, even though it was chilly? Good free WiFi. Good breakfast (though I always hate DIY toasters - just not good service!).

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The hotel is situated in an ideal position 10 minutes from the centre of town and the bay of Newquay is just across the road from the Hotel. The hotel is working through a refurbishment programme with has seen many of our bedrooms receive newly fitted bathrooms. Our Small Lounge, Small Dining Room and Ballroom have also, recently received a makeover. This programme was halted for the Summer Season and will be recommenced at the start of November with the refitting of the Cocktail Bar, Middle Lounge and Well Area. As the towel rails in the bedrooms get particularly hot we prefer to leave these off and let guests turn them on once they have arrived. We appreciate feedback and your suggestion will be reviewed at our next management meeting especially during the colder months. I am happy to read you enjoyed the free WiFi and that breakfast was good although you did not enjoy preparing your own toast. This was introduced from feedback from guest reviews asking for this to be an option. If you stay with us again, please inform the restaurant team, who will be happy to organise toast on your behalf. We look forward to your return.

"Ok and not bad value"

The areas that have been renovated are lovely. I am very thankful that they are taking baths out and putting showers in. So many people have back problems and climbing into a bath doesn't help. The breakfast was ok. The reception in great need of renovation. Some Reed diffusers may help with the musty aroma. Having read reviews about the hotel being dated. It is but I think this is reflected in the price. The town is really shabby, out of date and has a plethora of social issues and needs investment if it's going to improve. There are some businesses which are lovely like the Driftwood cafe. The bus service is great for getting out of town. The zoo is brilliant and excellent value.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It is lovely to read that you thought our renovated areas are lovely. The hotel has been working through a refurbishment programme which has seen many bedrooms receive newly fitted bathrooms. This programme was stopped for the busy Summer Season and will be recommencing at the start of November with the refitting of our Cocktail Bar, Middle Lounge and Well Area. Reception is on the list of To Do's within this programme. We have planters at reception and this may have been what gave the musty aroma. We utilise reed diffusers in our reception which are sourced locally from St Eval Candle Company which normally have a wonderful aroma. Over recent years the cliental visiting Newquay has changed, hopefully this will encourage the local Council to provide additional investment in the town to provide the necessary amenities required for a busy seasonal town. It is good to read that you found the bus service excellent for getting out of the town. We hope to see you again soon.

"Glorious sea views"

24/10/2018

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Bristol on the 24/25/ and 26th of September this year. I wish it could have been longer! We have both been to Newquay many, many times, but neither of us have ever stayed at the Bristol. I can remember walking past it as a child and being very impressed by its size and grandeur. We paid extra for a sea-view, family room with a double and a single bed which was really worth it. The views across Tolcarne Beach, the ancient grassy "Barrowfields" clifftop area and thence along the coast to Trevose Head and its lighthouse was fantastic. The room had a huge bay window which made the most of the views. There was plenty of storage space, a comfortable carpet and large bathroom, sadly with no bath, but a large walk-in shower. Strangely there was no lid on the toilet, and the tap on the basin only turned, so if one wanted hot water one had a deluge at the same time. These were only little moans which certainly didn't spoil our stay. There is a large car park at the rear of the hotel which was much appreciated. We had both breakfast and dinner on our three nights and we very much enjoyed the food. There was a good choice and quantity. we found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. There is a fairly short walk into town- rather longer if one is heading to the harbour area. For those not wanting to walk there is a bus stop opposite the hotel. We would definitely want to return- hopefully for a longer holiday!

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. How amazing that you both had visited Newquay many times but never had the opportunity to stayat the Hotel Bristol until now. Our sea view rooms are rather splendid, with many of our guests enjoy hours watching the surfers catch the waves. From the description of the room it may have been that you were in a room that has had the bathroom adapted to a wet room, so that it may be utilised for less abled guests. We are very lucky to have two car parks which means guests do not have to worry about finding a space to park their car. Our team will be happy to hear you enjoyed breakfast and dinner throughout the duration of your stay and you found them very friendly and helpful. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Very comfortable hotel, good quality, rooms are of good size for best western hotels The bar was well stocked and the service was excellent with good bar food The restaurant was good although only had breakfasts which were very good The swimming pool was warm and reasonable for a beach front hotel Beach is just over the road and was well used by surfers

"Good value , great location"

13/10/2018

A typical 3 star seaside hotel, slightly dated and cavernous but great value . Room was clean and comfortable but dated and tired , must be a huge cost challenge to keep these places modern . The young lady at reception was not the most welcoming but efficient , lift is tight!! . Restaurant is huge and perhaps too big to create an atmosphere . Parking is just behind the hotel so convenient. We did not eat there but there were lots of issue with people waiting for food in the bar area . Breakfast was lovely , freshly cooked and the quality was excellent .

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. It is a cost challenge operating a Seaside Hotel. Prior to the busy Summer Season, we refitted all our sea view first floor bathrooms. Our Small Dining Room, Small Lounge, and Ballroom have also recently had makeovers. We are looking to recommence our refurbishment programme at the beginning of November with the refit of our Cocktail Bar. During the quieter months, we often utilise our smaller dining room rather than our larger restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The food served in our bar area is cooked to order to ensure the highest quality, and on occasions this area does become very busy. This does mean on occasions there may be a slightly longer wait, but our bar team are normally very good and inform our guests. We are very lucky to have two large car parks, so guests never have to worry about finding a parking space. I am glad you enjoyed your breakfast; the kitchen team pride themselves on freshly cooked quality food. We look forward to your return.

"If You Want To Explore The County Then Stay Here"

08/10/2018

Newquay is well situated for exploring Cornwall as it's approximately midway down the county. We had an excellent stay here. The hotel is situated a few hundred yards from the town centre and overlooking the sea. Our room was warm and clean and the beds were really comfortable. It was situated on a level walk from the lift on the second floor and at the side of the hotel. It was really quiet. The bathroom was very good with a good sized shower and we were pleased to see that the towels provided were bath sheets and not bath towels. The Cornish breakfast was excellent with very tasty bacon. My partner requested fried bread and although it wasn't on the menu it was provided for her. We had one dinner in the restaurant and took other evening meals in the bar. In all cases the food was good and plentiful but we did find the waiting time from ordering to serving to be a little excessive, especially in the restaurant where we had a wait of half an hour between the starter and the main course. There were only six other diners in there at the time so it wasn't as if they were busy. Meals can be taken in your room if you wish. We found all the staff to be cheerful, polite and well mannered and ready to fulfill any requests. The car park is at the rear of the hotel and there is access to the building from the back up a short flight of six steps. A permit will be given to you on checking in. There are only two disabled spaces in the car park put there is plenty of room in there. If you have mobility issues then contact the hotel In advance to get a room with level access from the lift as there are a few stairs to some of the rooms. We will definitely be staying there again if we return to Cornwall.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I would like to thank you for your positive feedback. I'm sorry to read you felt your wait time from starter to main in our Restaurant was longer that you would have expected. This will be reviewed by the team at our weekly management meeting as to why you had such a long wait time. It may have been that we were holding a function in another of our Dining areas or there were many orders for bar food. It's lovely to read that apart from this you were happy with your bedroom facilities, food was excellent, and you found the staff cheerful, polite, well-mannered and ready to fulfil any requests. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to your return.

Very fast check-in with ticket issued for rear car park. Had requested a sea view room with refurbished bathroom. Got both. Room was bigger than expected with a great view over the sea, and the bathroom was very smart. Very pleased to find two armchairs in the room. So often there's only one chair and one of you ends up sitting on the bed.. Only used the restaurant for breakfast, but there was a good choice of hot and cold food and service was efficient. Really only used the hotel as a base for visiting attractions in the area, so did not make full use of the facilities on offer. Would recommend.

An excellent base to explore Cornwall, Very helpfully staff who helped us plan places to visit during our weekend stay, Minmack Theatre is a must. Lovely hotel with original features throughout, we stayed on the 2nd floor with a fantastic sea view. We will definitely be back in the new year.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. I will inform our staff at our next meeting that you found them very helpful and enjoyed the places they helped you to plant to visit. The Minnack Theatre is one of my favourites. If you are ever planning to be down during the Summer months I would recommend visiting during their event evenings, when they hold music and theatre events. I am happy that you found our hotel lovely and we look forward to your return in the New Year.

The outside looks lovely but when you walk in, it has the air of an old people's home. The reception staff were lovely and very helpful. The night porter was so friendly and chatty. The corridors to the rooms were very old fashioned but the room was lovely, the beds were really comfortable and the bathroom was surprising - the shower was powerful and hot. We had breakfast included in the price - the buffet food was good and the cooked food made to order was wonderful. No grease in sight even with a cooked breakfast and all the waiting staff were extremely pleasant. The pool was in a very odd place but it was warm and most welcoming as was the sauna. I would definitely return and would recommend due to the location right opposite Tolcarne Beach and a short walk from the town.

Loved this Hotel. Scrupulously clean in all areas, gleaming brasses, very tidy everywhere. Staff incredibly pleasant, smiling and helpful. Very obliging with requests to slightly alter our food orders, all done with a good grace and no fuss. Room 146 is a good size with a nice bay window with table and chairs where we spent spare moments watching surfers down on the beach and it has a modern bathroom with a good walk-in shower. Good walking towards Porth on nice safe grassy area.Good easy car park.close to the Hotel, all in all, a great stay.

It's a quintessentially English seaside hotel/B&B from back in the day. It's far from perfect but it is what it is. If walls could talk what stories they would tell! Nice people, great breakfast & good size room. So if you want glorious sunsets & find out if Colonel Mustard was killed in the library with a candlestick then look no further!! I'll be going back!!

"Oh dear!"

15/09/2018

Lovely staff on reception, we turned up a bit early, they checked to see if our room was ready. It wasn't, they were apologetic, no problem as we were early, sorted the car park permit so we could wander off for a look around. On our return the book in was easy and off to our room we went. The corridors hinted at basic and reminded us of accommodation we have stopped in when away with youth organisations. The room itself was not bad, basic, wood chip wallpaper etc. Windows were the original sash windows that rattled and with peeling paint. Bit of a hazard if you had a young child with you. The bathroom!!! Oh my goodness, I have ripped out bathrooms 2 decades younger than this! How the hell you can charge the rate they do at this hotel with this standard of accommodation is beyond me. I have also raised a serious data protection issue with Best Western regarding this hotel. I have received an acknowledgment e-mail but nothing further. The staff were wonderful, breakfast was nice but the hotel is so dated and I'm sorry it didn't offer value for money as far as I am concerned.

"Great views great location but our was horrible and so dated I was very disappointed"

06/09/2018

I booked a family room with sea view cost me quite a lot of money for what it was, I have stayed in Newquay many times n this was definitely the worst value for money. Upon arrival u have to swing up at front of hotel run in check in then get a blue piece of paper drive round back n pray u can find a parking space in the pay n display carpark and make sure u display blue paper on dashboard, i have a 4x4 n i Had great difficulty trying to park my car as what spaces were left were tiny. Got to room I could of cried it was so old fashioned , dated and dusty I could not believe it , the bathroom was the worst hotel bathroom I've ever stayed in! I went to the local Tesco's n bought My own flash bleach n wipes n had to clean the bathroom myself before me or my son could use it., the toilet had no lid the flush didn't work properly the dirt around the top of toilet by the hinges was just revolting. I didn't want to ruin my sons holiday by moaning so I just got on with it . I cleaned bedroom too , it was not pleasant at all. We are both asthmatics and the dust on top of the wooden headboards which are fixed on wall was not good, I moved the beds n they Obviously had not been moved n hoovered in a very long time. As dogs are allowed in this hotel the dog hair was apparent. The amazing views would of been more amazing if u had been able to see clearly out of the windows but unfortunately I don't think they had been cleaned for a while so made looking out blurry . I paid extra for breakfast which I will say was very good they were most accommodating for us n our Dietary requirements, very friendly staff. The money I paid which was a lot I could of stayed in a luxury modern apartment off fistral beach , I have done that many times but fancied a hotel for a change.. won't be rushing to do that again unless it's re vamped n i Get put in a nice clean room. Swimming pool & games room whilst they were there you wouldn't of used them the pool was size of a pond n quite dreary n the games room just had a ping pong table in it ?? .. So only positives of our stay was that I got to spend time with my son , the dining staff were very friendly n made Us feel welcome in the morning & the beach was across the road everything is on your doorstep which was great.

Stayed here for 4 nights for a little break away.Hotel is in a great location, we had a side sea view and the room had everything we needed. Breakfast was great, with a cooked to order hot breakfast and a continental buffet to help yourself from.Staff were very friendly and pleasant, always said hello and had smiles on their faces. Fast check in and check out, free parking in the car park behind the hotel (hotel gives a permit). Overall a great hotel in a great location to explore Newquay.

A fairly comfortable hotel, well situated for getting around. Had a reasonable size room at the back of the hotel with a partially refitted bathroom, two problems, one, there is a lift to the first floor but to get to the room but to get to the room required using two further sets of steps! Two it was a long walk to reception. If you book this hotel and have limited mobility request an accessible room when booking, plus arrange a drop off at the front of the hotel, there are steep steps from the rear car park. Having looked at the shortcomings this hotel gives good value for money and is comfortable.

christineI5458OQ, Director of Sales at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for writing a review. I am sorry to read that due to limited mobility you were situated a long distance from reception and our amenities. If we know in advance we try our best to accommodate guests with limited mobility close to the lift to alleviate excessive walking. Depending upon when a booking is made unfortunately this may not always be possible, but recommend that this is mentioned when the booking is made. Alternatively please call or email to see if we are able to accommodate your request prior to booking. Its pleasing to see that you felt the hotel is good value for money and is comfortable. We look forward to your return.

"Hard bed and good staff"

21/08/2018

Arrived at 5pm to a very nice welcome, friendly and efficient. Large free parking area for residents is at the rear, just get a pass at reception. (car park run by Llawnroc - geddit?). Got Room 160, which is a good size and is at the rear of the hotel and is definitely a little dated. Decent shower, no bath. Small TV with limited channel choice. Free WiFi (for 96 hours). Overnight it was generally quiet. However, the bed. Oh my, I have been to quite a few hotels but this mattress was hardcore, literally. I like a bit support from a mattress but awoke feeling like I'd been given door to sleep on. This is the main reason for an average rating. In the morning, the buffet breakfast is of an acceptable standard. The scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and English muffins were good though. Coffee drinkable.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to read that your mattress was "hardcore" giving you an uncomfortable night's sleep. As you can appreciate everyone has individual preferences. Our mattresses are renewed regularly, and we always seek advice from our bed and mattress supplier on their recommendations. The hotel has a supply of toppers which can be fitted onto mattresses, if requested, which will make it softer. We are pleased your room was of a good size, generally quiet, and that you received a nice welcome with our staff being friendly and efficient. People enjoy our breakfasts with the wide selection available on the buffet and cooked breakfast freshly prepared. We look forward to your return.

Had a 3 day stay here from the 10th August. We stayed in room 350. The views were amazing. The room was lovely. We only had breakfast here which was really good. Good choices & they catered for gluten free. Which was really good for me. Will definitely go back

"a tad old fashioned but well run and room was very spacious ( i had a the 'cottage')"

very well positioned for the beaches so I would consider coming again. The bathroom had old school separate taps and and older style bath tub and shower ( like we had in the 70's) . In all the important areas it was good e.g staff excellent , clean and tidy ( meticulous) . The real question is do you like Newquay? I didnt mind the town. The beaches are stunning and just tumble down the cliffs by the hotel and you are there. So I would come again.

Thank you for your comments. The hotel has been working through a refurbishment programme which saw many of our sea-view, first-floor bathrooms refitted. Good little hotel. Right on the beach although lots of stairs to the beach. Room was good bathroom very clean. Great breakfast with nice staff. Not a modern hotel but kept very clean and staff make up for the older style hotel.

Thank you for review. We are lucky to have Tolcarne Beach just across the road from the Hotel. The downside is, to get there, you need to either follow the narrow path down or negotiate several steps. It is lovely when the tide is out as you can walk to Great Western & Towan Beach and the Harbour. Going in the opposite direction you can walk all the way to Lusty Glaze beach. The hotel is working through a refurbishment programme which is currently on hold for the busy Summer Season. . Its pleasing to read your room was good, bathroom very clean and a great breakfast with nice staff. We hope to see you again soon.

well what a surprise. I thought as a three star hotel it would be at best average - how wrong I was. Excellent staff, upgrade on arrival, the room was fantastic with wonderful views and appeared to have been refurbished with a new bathroom/shower - and a sitting area and what views over the bay. The food was excellent . The three course evening meal changed very evening and every meal was superb . Freshly cooked with ample portions. Breakfast was a delight. Great choice , freshly cooked - no pre heated poor quality food - excellent - the head chef is great and should be very proud. Dog bed , bowl and blanket provided Parking at the back of the hotel and staff who could not do more to help

"Tired old hotel"

28/07/2018

we booked in for two nights, for a mini break, mainly because the hotel offered a Tesla charging point. The charging points were not in the best of positions. The Hotel was old and tired, everything either rattled echoed, or creaked. The bed was very hard, so ask for a topper when booking, The room was sparce, but if you asked for anything I.E. Fan, hairdryer it was quickly brought to room. The breakfast was Ok Nothing special, but the staff were all very helpful and nice

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The hotel building dates to the 1920's. The hotel has been working through an ongoing refurbishment programme which saw our first-floor sea view bathrooms refitted. Our programme is currently on hold due to the busy Summer Season and we will be continuing later in the year. The Tesla Charging points have recently been installed. We appreciate your feedback regarding where they are positioned. Each bedroom has a hairdryer which is normally situated in the draw cabinet. Fans are distributed to rooms upon request. It's wonderful to rear that our staff were very helpful and nice.

"Worst place we stayed all week!"

2
26/07/2018

We took a week road trip around Devon and Cornwall stopping at different places. On a budget so we stayed in B & Bs most the week. We had 1000 Avios points and had to pay a further 35.00 on top of that, we thought we would treat ourselves for 1 night and have the luxury of a hotel. What a mistake! Bearing in mind the B & Bs we chose were on average 60.00 per night including breakfast. If we had not used Avios the Hotel would have been around 100 + with no breakfast. On arrival, the place has a good location opposite a lovely beach and a walk to the centre, it has a free car park, so far so good. The hotel next door is closed and derelict and a few other properties like this, it looks like these building are coming down to make way for new developments. Entering the building there was a really musty smell of old building. Our room was an Ok size a bit small but manageable, the view looked out onto dirty walls, an alleyway and roof tops. No fridge, The head boards were marked and the walls a mushroom colour artex. Our hearts sank, it was way down market to the B & Bs we had stayed in. We decided not to stay for any meals, although the dining room looked nice with all the white table linen, I thought it was a bit of dressing up as this room faced the road. In the corridor there was a big water stain down the wall and the carpets were stained in various places. I took one picture of the water stain and was going to take more but I decided not to waste my precious time taking photos of problems. Its a large sea front hotel and looking at some of the good reviews, you would think its a different hotel. Maybe there are some nice rooms and floors? I can only assume because I used Avios points we were given a poor standard room/floor who knows but we were so disappointed that what we thought was going to be the best stay of the week was in fact the worst one. Its a 3 star , I was not expecting luxury but surely a certain standard in even the worst rooms. Put us on a downer until we left for the next excellent B & B. It looks like it was once a lovely place in its day but now past its best. I thought Best Western would have a certain standard because I thought it was a chain but have since found out that each hotel is an independent. I wont be using Best Western again.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. I am sorry to read we failed to meet your expectations. The building of the hotel dates to the 1920's. Unfortunately, the hotel developed a leak which caused the problems on the corridor wall. The leak has now been fixed. Once the wall has fully dried, we will be redecorating at our earliest opportunity. The hotel has been working through a refurbishment programme during the winter months which saw our first-floor sea view rooms receive newly fitted bathrooms. This programme will continue once the busy Summer Season has ended. I would like to assure you that our rooms are allocated by room type, not on how payment is received. Best Western hotels are independently run by Owner/Operators who conform to standards set by Best Western. These standards are checked, by auditors on a regularly basis.

24/07/2018

Stayed here for a surprise trip for my partner but this hotel wasnt what i expected. We had a sea view lovely room what had cleary been updated but what a shame they didnt bring the bathroom out of the 60s... Headache inducing yellow bathroom with possibly the worst shower in the south west(!), either ice cold or scolding hot. There was no inbetween and we were both victims to the scolding water. Third degree burns definitley put a dampener on the experience. Breakfast was enjoyable with an average selection. The redeeming factor was definitley the staff, they were friendly and caring! A great hotel if you need a bed to lay your head but i've definitley been in better 3 stars and for alot less..

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for giving feedback from you stay. During the quieter months, the hotel has been working through a refurbishment programme which saw 15 bathrooms renovated. This programme has been put on hold for the busy Summer Season and will recommence later in the year where we hope to continue upgrading our bathrooms. I'm pleased you found breakfast enjoyable. Many of our staff have been working at the hotel for a long period of time. We are one big family whose aim is to ensure guests enjoy their stay. I will ensure your comments are discussed at our next team meeting.

Very nice 3 star hotel bit dated in places but hey that adds to the experience remember it's rated 3 star s not 5 and it does 3 stars very well almost 4 to be honest. The best thing about my stay was the staff seriously I've never encountered a hotel where all the staff were so friendly they all make you feel at home so in a nutshell looking for a clean friendly hotel then look no further

Beautiful view from the bedroom window and the outside area looks on to the beach. We had a lovely stay and were very impressed considering the price we paid. Only downfall was that parts of the hotel were being painted so quite awkward to get to and from our room at times

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for writing a review. Our sea view rooms do have rather spectacular views of the bay. We are happy that you had a lovely stay and were impressed with the hotel. I'm sorry that on occasions you found it awkward to get to and from your room. As you did not mention your room number, I am unsure as to where the paining was potentially taking place as we did not have any scheduled painting happening within the hotel. Our maintenance team are currently working on the exterior of the hotel. If you can let me know your room number I can further investigate your comment. We look forward to your return.

18/07/2018

Arrived with no booking and managed to get a room for 6 nights, bed and breakfast. The rate we paid was very reasonable. There was a small issue with the shower head in our bathroom and as it couldn't be fixed straight away we were moved into a upgraded room. Breakfasts were excellent, great choice and plenty of it. Bar snacks in the evening were a wonderful alternative to the hotel dining room. All the staff were helpful, friendly and yet very professional at all times.

A British style hotel in an excellent location, above Tolcarne beach, run by pleasant personnel. We were in a large room in the back, not having view on the sea but on the town and countryside which is also nice, at a very reasonable price.

12/07/2018

The staff at the hotel were very good. A couple of gripes the beautiful view was spoilt by paint splats on windows. Mattress was a little hard. The continental breakfast a little sparse. But that said it was a enjoyable stay.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, our windows were damaged from work that was completed across the road on the cliff face. It is cement and work to remove this from the windows is due to commence soon. As you can appreciate mattresses are a personal choice. When new mattresses were purchased we sought the advice of bed specialists and choose from their recommendations. I'm sorry you felt the continental breakfast was a little sparse. It would have been helpful to know of any additional items you felt were missing from our current Continental Breakfast which currently consists of: - Chilled Fruit Juice, Selection of Cereals, Fruit Compote, Natural Greek Yogurt, Grapefruit Segments, Stewed Prunes, Fresh Fruit, Freshly bakes Pastries & Bread, Jams, Marmalade, Honey, Marmite & Nutella, Cheese & Cornish Ham, Boiled Eggs & Porridge Tea: Twinning's Every day or a selection of Fruit, Herbal & Speciality Teas. Coffee: Colombian Filter or Decaffeinated. Hot Chocolate. I'm happy to read you had an enjoyable stay and that you felt our staff were "Very Good". We look forward to your return.

10/07/2018

WE booked this hotel for ourselves, our adult daughter and her dog. We had two lovely bedrooms, and the dog, if he had wanted to, could have eaten in the restaurant. Before the family acquired the dog I would have been wary of booking a dog friendly hotel. We need not have worried. Throughout the hotel there were no dog odours . The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. Of particular mention are the lounges which are very well furnished, large and equipped with board games etc. Food was really good. We shall return here and www wish to thank all of the staff with whom we came into contact.

"Family visit "

03/07/2018

A family of six, we stayed for two nights over a weekend for a wedding being held at the same venue. Although old fashioned inside some of the features are very quaint and I wouldn't have had it any other way. One one upside with old fashioned venues is the room size! We had a family room which in theory was two rooms with an adjoining door. Both spacious with adequate amenities. The children loved it. The breakfast service was brilliant. The staff are attentive and I have to praise the Hungarian barman. He even stayed late so we could have a drink in the bar after checking in late. What a star! I throughly enjoyed my stay and would love to go back. Make sure you try the local Cornish Pilsner. I may have to visit again just for that!

"Well situated, good views"

4
03/07/2018

Although relatively small, our room on the ocean side of the hotel afforded good views of the headland, beach and parts of Newquay itself. Apart from offering these great views the hotel is well situated because it's located far enough away from the centre of town to be free of any noise from night time revellers, but close enough that it's only a short stroll down the hill to pubs and restaurants, and of course the beach itself. The hotel is easily reached by car and free parking is available in the car park at the rear. Breakfast was provided in our rate and consisted of continental selections as well as cooked to order options. We stayed two nights and used the hotel as a base for travelling around the lower end of Cornwall. It's a relatively short drive from the hotel to Mount St Michael's and Lands End respectively. As an alternative to staying in the St Ives area, Newquay was a far cheaper prospect for us. We would recommend this hotel.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The hotel has an assortment of rooms varying in size, which includes non-sea view and sea view rooms. Our sea views rooms have spectacular views where great sunsets can be seen. We are very well situated only 5 minutes into the town centre. Access to Tolcarne beach is just across the road and down the steps. We also have two generous car parks which means guests do not have to worry about lack of parking facilities. Thank you for recommending our hotel.

"Newquay away with grandchild"

01/07/2018

We have just had a wonderful week away with our 3 year old grandson in Newquay. The Bristol Hotel is perfectly placed for a family beach holiday. A sort walk across Narrow Cliff Road and you are at the top of the steps down to the beach. The staff at the Bristol are friendly and helpful. Service was first class. The room was comfortable, although air-conditioning would have helped with the unusually hot and sunny weather. The food was both good value and quality. We did not venture from the area and the car got a well earned rest. Brilliant week. Thanks to all at the hotel.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. The hotel is ideally situated just 5 minutes from the centre of town and steps to Tolcarne beach are directly across the road. I'm pleased to read you found the service first class, room comfortable, food of good value and quality, with the staff friendly and helpful. The weather during you stay was hot and sunny which meant some of the rooms were warm. We do not currently have air-conditioned rooms; however, we can provide a fan for your room, just ask at reception and they can arrange this for any future visits. Your grandson certainly enjoyed himself and did not want to say goodbye. We look forward to your return.

In a great location on the cliff top, with the added bonus of free car parking at the rear. Our room was huge with an ocean view..Everywhere was spotless and all staff extremely welcoming and helpful. "Affordable and Comfortable"

14/06/2018

Hotel Bristol is located close to the center of Newquay; the beach is across the street at the bottom of the cliff. Our room was clean and large; the furnishings were not brand new but it was more than expected for the low price. Otherwise the bed was comfortable and the view from our window was amazing; it was so fun to watch the sun set over the Bristol channel from the comfort of your own hotel room. Breakfast was "full English" (egg, sausage, bacon, beans, tomato) and quite good. Free on-site parking is available. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel exceeded my expectations. No, it does not have air conditioning but opening the window a little was enough to keep the room cool overnight.

christineI5458OQ, Public Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for posting a review. Our hotel is situated 5 minutes from the centre of town and four beaches may be accessed at low tide from Tolcarne beach just across the road from the hotel. I agree, it is rather special to sit and watch the sun set from our sea view rooms. Our "Full English Breakfasts" are freshly prepared and served to your table which I'm pleased you enjoyed. We have ample parking for our guests and I will ensure your positive comments are mentioned at our weekly meeting. Our hotel does not currently have air conditioning in the rooms, however, if you stay in the future and find your room warm, please speak to Reception who will be able to organise a fan for your room. We look forward to your return.

"Shocking. Sleepless night."

13/06/2018

On first arrival the hotel looked decent. Good location and spacious. Unfortunately my opinion changed quickly. Firstly the rooms are dark, small and hot and stuffy. Then there is the noise of the kitchen extraction fans on the flat roof outside the window. In addition the pigeons are noisy outside the windows. Due to the hot stuffy room and bumpy bed I resorted to the fan at midnight. This had a noisy spindle that occasionally caught the chassis and kept me awake. I gave up at around one am and switched off the fan to eventually drift into a sweaty light sleep awaking at 5 am to the pigeons. Additionally there is a real toxic stink as you walk from the rear carpark through the hotel to the reception. Horrible. Try the local glamping sites. You'll get a much better sleep and more space!

christineI5458OQ, Public Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry to read you did not receive a restful night's sleep at the hotel. The hotel has a variety of room types which vary in size from standard singles to sea view and executive rooms which are spacious. Being situated on the sea front, at times the sea gulls and pigeons can be a little intrusive I'm afraid. If you had informed Reception during your stay, they would have endeavoured to allocate you an alternative room. Our sincere apologies regarding the "Marmite Smell". The smell you experienced was created by our eco-friendly food digester. The food digester has recently been serviced and we are waiting for a replacement filter to be fitted. In view of your comments we have taken immediate action. The bio master has been turned off and we are currently utilising a food waste disposal company. Once again, I am sorry that we failed to meet your expectations. If you plan to stay at the hotel in the future, please contact myself direct and I will be happy to work with yourself to find a more suitable room for your stay.

"Can't fault our stay here"

26/05/2018

We've just had six nights at the Hotel Bristol and enjoyed every moment. Our room was very spacious and comfortable with an updated en-suite with large walk-in shower. There was a lovely sitting area looking out to sea, where we could watch the beautiful sunsets. Staff were always friendly and helpful, breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice. My smoked haddock and poached egg were cooked to perfection - not many hotels manage this! We didn't have an evening meal in the restaurant, but did have a bar meal, which was v good value for money. The pool and sauna were an extra bonus, as was the easy car parking. Most days we left the car behind and caught buses from just across the road. We hope to return soon as possible.

This hotel is great, located well for the town and the beaches. The food is good and well cooked, gluten free can be requested, which is also helpful. The staff are attentive and cater for everything. The hotel is dated in places but very clean. The rooms are large and the sea view ones are very nice indeed. Car parking not a problem, a small pull in front of the hotel to drop off and then car parks at the rear, just give reception your registration number and all done.

"A good value well positioned hotel"

23/05/2018

The hotel Bristol is well positioned on the coast road opposite Tolcarne beach. It's just a 15 minute walk into the centre. Parking is no problem with guests given a permit for 2 large car parks at the rear. The room we were given was large and airy. It was on the side of the hotel but had a sea view. The bathroom was a bit dated like some parts of the hotel, but everywhere was clean. Although it's only a small indoor swimming pool, it's very good and the water was very warm. The full Cornish breakfast was well cooked but on the small side. The staff were friendly. A special mention for Colin who served our breakfast. Very polite and efficient even tho he was very busy. For £53 per night it was very good value. I would definitely return.

I will pass your positive comments to our team with a special mention to Colin. We hope to see you again soon.

"Great Position and Friendly Staff"

23/05/2018

Coming to Newquay for work on a beautiful sunny day and staying here was a very pleasant experience. With a car park very close by and bars and restaurants nearby, the position of the hotel is ideal. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful and breakfast was good quality. Although the rooms are a little small, this is a decent hotel that offers good value for money.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. We are happy to read you had a pleasant experience here at the Hotel Bristol with friendly and helpful staff, and breakfast was of a good quality. We have a variety of different sized rooms. When you next decide to visit Newquay please speak to one of our reservations team who can assist in ensuring you receive a more spacious room. We hope to see you again soon.

"A Hotel that always delivers"

21/05/2018

We have stayed at the Bristol on several occassions. Some may say the hotel is dated but it has a sense of style which is delivered by caring staff. We have stayed at hotels where much of the service is delivered by inexperienced staff but people at the Bristol are dedicated to ensuring guests enjoy their stay. If we are visiting the North coast of Cornwall we would always stay there.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for placing a review. It is wonderful to read you have stayed at the Bristol on several occasions and you feel the hotel has a sense of style. Our team are dedicated to ensuring guests enjoy their stay. I will notify them of your positive comments at our weekly meeting and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

One night stay for business. Helpful and friendly staff throughout the hotel. Food was good and breakfast was freshly prepared. Room was large enough and with a see view. Car parking is available at the rear.

"Worth a visit"

Just back from a relaxing weekend at hotel bristol. The room was recently redecorated I would say, very clean plenty of space. Bathroom looked very new with lovely walk in shower. We had a sea view room and the view is spectacular only negative thing I could possibly comment on was the windows were very dirty but still didn't spoil the view. Breakfast was really nice and filling ready for a day out exploring plenty of choice. I cant comment on restaurant as we didn't eat there only because weather was so beautiful we were out exploring as much as we could. The staff were very friendly and helpful, We would definitely return

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your positive comments. Its pleasing to read you enjoyed your recently redecorated room with a lovely walk in shower and a spectacular sea view. My apologies for the windows. Our windows are an ongoing project, they can be cleaned one day and then we have onshore winds from the sea the next, which coats our windows with sand and dirt I'm afraid. We look forward to your return.

"Good hospitality from waiters and bar staff"

26/04/2018

Big shout out to Phil who took my order at the bar - very pleasant and professional! Ethan, Mark were also very pleasant. Not impressed with the reception staff, very dull, hard to get even a smile! Got my reservation details wrong twice! The area is beautiful and the hotel is in a wonderful location right beside the sea. Carpets in rooms is unclean and furniture in rooms seems very outdated. Lounge and restaurant are really nice!

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank for taking the time to place a review. I am sorry that you found our reception team did not meet your expectations. Our reception staff are normally very friendly, and we often received positive comments. We take all reviews very seriously, and our Office Manager will be bringing this review to their attention in the weekly meeting. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme where all sea view first floor bathrooms have been upgraded during the winter months. Our Small lounge was refurbished last year which I'm sure you would have seen during your stay. The refurbishment programme will be halted for the Summer Season and will commence again towards the end of the year. Thank you for positive comments for Phil, Ethan and Mark, I will ensure they are made aware of this.

23/04/2018

Professional hotel management showed though in every department. A glorious room with superb views across Narrowcliff to the sea. Every member of staff we encountered was polite, helpful and interested in how they could make our stay even more special. We thoroughly enjoyed our two day stay and are now trying now to find time to return later in the year for a longer stay.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review

"Best Sunday lunch in newquay"

15/04/2018

An excellent welcome, pre dinner drinks and the best Sunday lunch in town. The staff are very experienced and excellent at their jobs it's great to see the the hotel trade at its best. I would definitely return to this restaurant for both the excellent service and the first class food, great value and great quality. Parking at the rear of the hotel and a great atmosphere.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for writing a review. We are pleased to read you felt we served "the best Sunday lunch in town". I will pass your positive comments on to the team at our next weekly meeting. "Good location & excellent friendly staff"

13/04/2018

Pleasant hotel, well situated within easy walking distance of the town and just a little longer to the famous Fistral beach. Bus stop is within yards for those with reduced mobility. Parking is opposite the hotel. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful throughout, from Reception through to Housekeeping, the Dining room team and Porterage - all had a commendable ‘can do' attitude. Room was OK, a little tired in places and the shower was pretty naff, but that aside we would definitely return because of the value & nature of the whole Hotel Bristol package.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. You may have noticed during your stay that the hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme, and we are currently updating all the bathrooms in our Sea View rooms on the first floor. I will inform the team of your positive comments at our next management meeting. We look forward to your return.

"So very friendly and helpful especially with my Electric Vehicle"

12/04/2018

All staff seem to have one aim in view and that is to please and make a stay hassle free. We had a recently refurbished room with glorious views across the bay. Visiting Cornwall in a pure EV does need some planning and an overnight stay is the ideal time to charge. Whilst their proper charger was out of operation they reserved a space for me to park alongside and charge from the building all FOC and much appreciated.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. We are delighted to read you enjoyed your stay. If you decide to stay again in the future, our three new charging points should have been installed.

11/04/2018

We stayed at the Hotel Bristol for 5 nights, which included a weekend Scottish dance event, with workshops and evening dances taking place in the ballroom. We were delighted to be given a room with a sea view, and were also pleased with the ample parking at the back of the hotel. We were most impressed with the friendliness of all the staff, this really does make a difference. The food was very good, we only missed a roast beef option at the Sunday luncheon. It was a great venue for our dance event, we'd be delighted to return.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review

"Great sea view "

11/04/2018

Stayed for one night, with two children. Had a great room on the third floor with a lovely view. Very spacious, a double bed, a single, a camp bed and a sofa. A little dated, could do with some modernisation, but fine. Parking in available in an unmarked car park behind the hotel, need to display a ticket from the hotel in your window.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for writing a review. As you would have seen during your stay, the hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme with all our first floor, sea view rooms receiving new bathrooms. Its pleasing to read that you enjoyed your view from the third floor and that you felt the room was spacious. We are very lucky to have two large car parks, but being situated so close to the beach we have found it necessary to issue our guests with a parking permit to avoid non residents utilising the spaces. We look forward to your return.

11/04/2018

Would just like to thank all the staff at the hotel for making our family weekend so special. Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff, they are a credit to the hotel. Difficult to single anyone person from the wonderful breakfast staff, housekeeping, porters, bar and Reception - thank you all so much, we will be back.

"Not impressed"

03/04/2018

Really sorry to say the hotel was tired, we only stayed for lunch and ordered roast chicken, very surprised to receive a leg of chicken on our plates thought it would have been a breast. Food not overly great. The views were brilliant and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

"Great staff and food"

19/03/2018

The staff were brilliant, any requests were dealt with very quickly, waiting staff efficient and friendly. If you are allergic to feathers be warned they use feather pillows but will replace them if asked. The lighting in the room was dreadful, I had to use the torch on my phone to read in bed, they put an extra lamp in for me which helped. However trying to put make up on was impossible as the lighting was so bad. T The bathroom lighting was great but nowhere to put make up. I ended up using the toilet lid with a towel to stop stuff rolling off. There was space for a toothbrush on the sink but nothing else I did complete a comments form at the hotel and suggested a shelf in the bathroom, maybe they will take this on board. Overall a good stay.

christineI5458OQ, Public Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for writing a review. I'm pleased to read that our staff were accommodating, and your requests were dealt with quickly and efficiently. We do utilise feather pillows in our bedrooms, however, House Keeping also keep a selection of pillows in stock, which can be changed upon request. I am sorry to read that the lighting in your room was not to your satisfaction, but an extra lamp supplied to your room was beneficial. We would like to thank you for completing a comment form prior to your departure. You will be pleased to read that we are currently working through a refurbishment programme and all bathrooms that have recently been refitted, now have a shelf below the mirror. We look forward to your return.

"Dog Friendly"

5
08/03/2018

We stayed on a Saturday night to attend a function, taking our puppy with us. The hotel provided dog blanket, towel and water bowl and had sited us away from the function rooms so as not to disturb the dog. We have stayed at the Bristol several times previously and always had good service and excellent food.

christineI5458OQ, Public Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's wonderful to read that we looked after your puppy so well. The hotel understands the importance of being able to bring your pet on holiday. House Keeping ensure we have provisions in stock, just in case guests accidentally forget doggie essentials and the reception team normally have special treats for your four-legged friend. Its lovely to read that you have visited us on several occasions and we look forward to your return.

Our room is always clean and tidy; though some rooms are very tired and need decorating which the hotel is already doing. The staff are always willing to help and always make our stay very enjoyable; The food is exceptional. We always use this hotel when we are down at newquay as we know what to expect

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for reviewing our hotel. Housekeeping will be happy to learn you always receive a clean and tidy room. At our next management meeting I will inform the relevant teams of your positive comments. We look forward to your return.

27/02/2018

The room allocated to my wife and I was first class. My wife is disabled and the room 241 was over and above our expectation. We only came for one night B&B so did not eat in restaurant but breakfast was excellent. The staff were very welcoming, especially Martina who spent time showing me around.I am hoping to return at a later date.

25/02/2018

Excellent venue, views, food and especially the helpful and friendly staff. Only downside was despite having a lovely spotless and well appointed room, this was miles round the back of the hotel with view of car park. This was because we had our dog with us and was classed as a dog friendly room. This despite being asked to pay £12per night for dog but getting nothing in return for this except worse room. Doesn't seem fair.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. The hotel has a selection of rooms that are dog friendly, from Standard to Sea View Rooms. All our standard rooms are situated at the rear of the hotel including, non-dog friendly rooms. The charge per night for a dog covers the extra cleaning incurred and we are happy to provide a dog bowl, blanket and towels to dry your pet after their play on the beach throughout the duration of your stay. When you decide to visit again, please contact the hotel direct and we will endeavour to allocate a room which you feel would be better suited for stay.

23/02/2018

Booked a cheap deal for a couple of nights and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Opened our door to find we had a room with a sea view and a lovely bay window with a very comfortable seat and table. The room was spotlessly clean and had quality biscuits and tea/coffee facilities. All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly. The hotel itself, though old, does not show its age. There is a large restaurant which we didn't use, and a bar where bar meals are served at very reasonable prices. There really is no need to go into town to eat. Free WiFi is included. There is a gym and indoor pool for guests to use, but we didn't use these facilities during our stay. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Newquay as we really can't think how you could want better at this price.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. Its pleasing to read you enjoyed your Sea View Room. Our staff aim to be friendly and attentive so it's wonderful to read your positive review relating to our staff. Unfortunately, we do not have a gym, but we do have sauna facilities and an indoor pool. We have a varied selection of options for Dining. Our Daily Bar Specials are always reasonably priced. We look forward to your return.

"Clean, comfortable and ideally positioned."

17/02/2018

I have stayed here twice in the last few months with friends. The hotel does everything you expect from a Best Western, with clean comfortable rooms and a good breakfast! It is well situated, away from the hubbub of the centre but only a short walk away. The bar and restaurant staff were very friendly helpful, (although Reception could be bit more welcoming). Would stay here again.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our team at reception are normally very welcoming and attentive. On their behalf, I would like to apologise that they did not meet your expectations and I will take your review to our next reception meeting. Its lovely to read the bar and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful and you enjoyed a good breakfast. Again, your comments will be passed to the appropriate staff, as they love to receive positive feedback. The housekeeping team will be pleased that you found your room clean and comfortable. We are lucky to be situated only 10 minutes from the centre of town/night life and the beaches just across the road. We look forward to your return.

"Valentine's evening"

15/02/2018

We were greeted by a friendly receptionist and shown into the bar area where we were served by friendly bar staff. We were then shown to a lovely dining room and served scrumptious food by polite, friendly and attentive waitresses. We have had meals here on numerous occasions and they are consistently good a real treat. I notice some people say the Hotel needs updating but I would disagree, we love the ambiance of the place and it's decor, it adds to its charm of Newquay in its heyday. We thoroughly recommend a visit to the restaurant, especially for that special occasion. Beautiful food with great choices plus a vegetarian option.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I'm so pleased to read you enjoyed the menu served on Valentine's Evening and that all our staff were attentive and friendly. Recently, our Small Dining Room has been refreshed. Currently, we are refurbishing bathrooms situated in our 1st Floor Sea View Rooms ready for guests arriving later in the year. I hope you liked the new look in The Small Dining Room. We look forward to you visiting again soon. .

"Cosy home away from home~Beautiful seafront location~Friendly Staff~But needs updating."

14/02/2018

The Hotel Bristol is cosy and welcoming as the staff couldn't be more attentive, made even more charming by the dog behind the reception desk! We were lucky enough to be given a sea view even though when we booked there was not any seafront rooms left.(It may have been given to us as we stayed in February- out of season). The rooms and the hotel its self could do with a re-vamp as a lot of the decor and furniture was outdated and worn. This was not an entirely negative aspect as it made you feel at home like you were staying in an AirBNB instead of a hotel. I was pleased to see the hotel is currently undergoing work on one of the floors as I really enjoyed my stay here and would like to see some updates next time. The pool area was again outdated but that didn't stop myself and my boyfriend from enjoying the facilities. The location is perfect, close to iconic beaches and town. My only qualm was the lack of vegan and gluten free options on the menu- we could only order a jacket potato from room service however, there are lots of artisan options in town. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. Our staff are customer focused and always aim to please. Marble is the owner's dog. She loves spending time at reception, as she receives so much attention from both guests and staff. We do endeavour to upgrade our guests however, this does depend on the time of year and the number of bookings we have. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme with first floor bathrooms being updated. We have recently updated our Smaller Dining Room and The Small Lounge on the ground floor which I'm sure you would have seen during your stay. We are very lucky to be so close to the town centre, and the beach being just across the road. Thank you for your comment regarding the lack of vegan and gluten free food, I will put this on the agenda for our next management meeting. We look forward to your return.

Booked a room via Expedia for a business trip - have stayed here before and had excellent sea views, was at the back of the hotel this time but room still perfectly adequate - clean, plenty of space, polite reception staff, and a bargain at £33 for a nights stay

12/02/2018

I have stayed before my partner and I needed a 48 hour break away to be looked after with nice food friendly staff and comfortable room. Since our last visit the small dinning room has been decorated and has a lovely warm feeling, the food service has changed with the main course being plated with the vegetables placed in a dish on the table, much better than the silver service the food was hot and well presented and served with a smile. We had the refurbished corner suit on the 3rd floor room 350 worth paying the extra money, you walk in to a lovely bedroom with a wood panelled wall the room is in soft pastel colours, walking through the arch way there is a bathroom then an amazing tower lounge with amazing views and very comfortable sofa. We look forward to visiting later in the year.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. I am delighted to read, you like our newly decorated small dining room and enjoyed your meal, as we have changed the way the food is served. Room 350, is one of three Turret Rooms with wonderful sea views. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in this room. We look forward to your return.

11/02/2018

Stayed here for the weekend whilst visiting friends, booked a seaview room and wasn't disappointed, comfy beds warm room for the time of year, breakfast was very well presented and enjoyable. Staff were very co-operative & friendly. It's a hotel with character not a modern hotel, so if your looking for modern there is a Travelodge up the road. For us we will definitely be back.Free parking which is a bonus. Well done all at Bristol hotel.

"Charming Hotel"

05/02/2018

We stayed just one night in a special deal room (623) at the back of the hotel as we were attending a function at the hotel that evening. The room itself was larger than expected with a very comfortable bed but rather a small shower room. We were concerned about an electrical repair to the hot towel rail in the shower room and reported this on leaving. The public rooms are all smart and pleasantly art deco in feeling. The hotel is situated right on the front with easy access to beaches, though this wasn't important at this time of year. Parking was plentiful. The staff could not have been more helpful. We were escorted to our room by a step free route. Service during the function was efficient and cheerful, as it was again at breakfast, which was also excellent. A POT of coffee seemed standard and the 'Cornish breakfast' was tasty and wholesome, with the baked beans thoughtfully served in a separate pot, which stopped them tainting the other flavours to be enjoyed. This would be quite an up market holiday venue. .

"Reasonably priced, very pleasant stay. "

03/02/2018

Comfortable clean room (we booked 1 with a sea view) Cheerful friendly staff made us very welcome. Excellent breakfast with plenty to choose from, Sunday lunch was really good and I can recommend the steak sandwich which I ordered with gourmet chips, which were divine, from the bar menu. If you want fancy and modern go elsewhere. If you want clean and comfortable and good value for money then this is definitely a winner.

christineI5458OQ, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review

"Surprisingly good function"

28/01/2018

I attended a function here, I was unable to stay despite being offered a discounted room. Bar service was a little slow despite two separate bars in use, but not unacceptably so. Service in the dining room was good and the food was surprisingly good especially bearing in mind that they were catering for over one hundred. I wished that I had been able to stay, I would certainly go back and explore Newquay further.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. On arrival to functions, the bar sometimes becomes busy if people arrival around the same time. I'm pleased that the wait was not unacceptable. At our next meeting I will feed your review back to the bar staff and inform the restaurant and kitchen teams that you enjoyed the food and service was good. We hope you can return soon.

Fabulous historic building, Family run hotel, staff always pleasant, smiling and willing to help. Spacious comfortable rooms wiith plenty of requisites. Views where available are breathtaking over Narrowcliffe onto Tolcarne Beach and towards the town centre which is only a short walk or bus ride away. Excellent location - handy for airport, and other places of interest, super beaches often with A1 surf. seek out Newquay Museum and Archive - very interesting. I booked this Hotel by mistake, But it was one of the best mistakes I,ve made. This hotel was better than the one I thought I had booked. The staff made our stay, and I would go back again. It is in an excellent place for the town and beaches. We come down to Newquay quite a few times through the year to visit family. "Dated but friendly"

04/01/2018

Nothing a lot of investment would put right but the hotel is clean and serviceable. The staff are friendly apart from the maintenance man who held the lift on the 2nd floor whilst we were waiting above and could hear everything that was said. Don't expect anything above its star rating otherwise you will be disappointed. We did not eat in the hotel apart from breakfast which was good.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme which was postponed over the Christmas period. This week we have recommenced the programme. For the next three months, the 1st floor of the hotel will be closed, as new bathrooms are being fitted to our sea view rooms. My sincere apologies that our maintenance man held the lift. Our General Manager will be liaising with him regarding this. I'm glad you enjoyed your breakfast in our sea view restaurant.

31/12/2017

Rooms look more like a budget old hotel and not within keeping of best western at all. Shower was awkward and tiny, fan noisy. Also had noisy dogs barking all night in other rooms. Breakfast was good and tasty although there was no fresh fruit. Staff friendly and helpful

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for reviewing the hotel. Best Western Hotels are privately owned with Best Western setting out required standards. Audits are conducted on a regular basis to ensure standards are met. The room booked was a Single Room, which by nature is a smaller room. Thank you for informing us of the noisy fan, we will get a member of our maintenance team to fix this. Our apologies that you had noisy dogs barking throughout the night from other rooms. If you had contacted our night porter, he could have possibly resolved this problem for you. I'm happy to read you enjoyed breakfast. Our normal policy would be for water melon and apples to be available. I will liaise with our Restaurant Manager as to why this was not available. For any future bookings, if there is no fresh fruit on the buffet table, please speak to our friendly and helpful staff who will be happy to arrange this for you.

The room was clean, but basic. The breakfast was good. Every dinner was a disappointment. Very average food. Used to be the best restaurant in Newquay. We have been going on and off for 40 plus years. Never again has gone downhill over the years. Very sad.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are honoured that you have been visiting the hotel on and off for over 40 years. I'm sorry to read you felt the dinners, on this occasion were disappointing. Your feedback is very important to us. We would like to get in contact to discuss your disappointment if you would be so kind as to provide a telephone number. Alternatively, you may wish to contact our General Manager Lukasz regarding your feedback. We look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.

Perfectly adequate hotel for one night. Single room probably less impressive than front double. Staff very competent and friendly. Told bar open at restricted hours - thankfully not the case and was staffed more often. Overall a little tired and public Ares could do with a little lift.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for review. Our team will be happy to read you found them competent and friendly. Our bar is not always staffed. During quieter periods of the day, any member of the team on duty are able to serve bar drinks. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme with several rooms already completed and the Small Lounge situated on the ground floor. This refurbishment programme will be continuing in the new year.

"Christmas Party"

A group of my ex-colleagues and myself attended a Christmas party at the Hotel Bristol last weekend and I have to say it was one of the best we've attended. The food was excellent, the staff were very efficient and pleasant and all the food was served hot and in good time. The disco was good and the DJ kept people on the floor the whole evening. We all stayed the night and rooms were very reasonable at a special reduced rate for members of the party night, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was equally excellent with full cooked breakfast being served cooked to order and served hot. Would recommend this hotel to anyone and this is the second year we have been back for the Christmas party and will be attending for the third time next year too.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for reviewing your Christmas Party Night and stay. We are pleased to read you enjoyed all aspects of the evening. We hired a new DJ this year as the previous gentleman had retired. Wonderful, that he kept people on the floor all evening. The hotel always offer a reduced rate stay for people attending the Christmas Party Nights, so they do not have to worry about getting home. We look forward to your return next year.

"Bad customer service terrible food in a dirty restaurant "

We had our Zumba Christmas party here which we had a good night stayed in Old tired room but was clean went down for breakfast at time I was told others were already eating I was shocked to see floor covered in crackers and everything left from night before Christmas parties breakfast cheap sausage thank god only 1 was not great best was the toast complained to best western but was told all hotels are franchised so would forward my complaint I got a long and detailed email my word against the staffs and terrible excuse why the restaurant was dirty even though the manager said at beginning of email restaurant was hoovered after service and spot checked in the evening as a local will not be recommending it to the many tourists I deal with

"Very bad food/room for the price"

Stayed here one evening for a ladies evening. The welcoming was fine and that is the nicest thing I have to say. The rooms with dire woodchip old fashioned and didn't want to spend anytime there. We must of been situated near the kitchen as there was a disgusting smell constantly in our room. We paid £30 per head for a three course meal which there was absolutely no options (like it or lump it menu) and therefore you'd think it would be easy for the chef (use that term lightly) to do. The soup was baby food, no flavour. The roast had no roast potatoes, instead we were given the most awful mash potatoes I have ever eaten. Glutenous and lumpy, that's skill :( They even manage to mesh up the cheese cake. This is not me being picky this is the opinion of at least 80% of the people there. SO disappointed actually feel robbed. Shall not return or recommend

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for reviewing your function and stay. The hotel is currently midway through room refurbishments that will continue in January, once the function season has ended. The smell you mentioned would have been from our Biomass boiler. It is eco-friendly, but the downside is that if the wind is in the wrong direction you may sometimes smell what has been described as "a marmite type smell". This is the first complaint we have received regarding the smell in any of our rooms. Our apologies that you did not enjoy the food. The organiser of the event normally chooses the menu. Our General Manager is liaising with our Head Chef regarding your comments, as we are upset that the food did not meet your expectations. We cater for many functions throughout the year and rarely have any complaints but appreciate on this occasion these dishes were not what you expected. Please accept our sincere apologies from the team here at the Hotel Bristol. Lukasz Wilczkowski General Manager

Stayed at the hotel for a murder mystery night. Was a great night with great food. Just wished we took our swimming gear We had a room with a sea view, bedroom was massive and beds comfortable. Would highly recommend.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking time to review your stay. The Murder Mystery evening was entertaining with positive comments given by all the guests attending the event. We are hoping to hold another Murder Mystery Event in March 2018, date to be confirmed.

A nice hotel but a little dated but did see improvements happening. Good location to walk into town. Stayed 3 nights b&b and can't fault the breakfast or service. Good swimming pool that suits all. Hotel bar had a good choice of drinks and well staffed with a friendly team

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme and its pleasing to read you could see improvements happening. We are situated 5 minutes from the centre of town with ample parking at the hotel. I'm glad you enjoyed breakfast, our friendly service and swim in our indoor pool. The bar endeavours to stock a wide range of local ales, cider, lager and spirits produced in Cornwall. We look forward to you visiting again.

"Fabulous 50th Birthday trip"

5
25/11/2017

What can i say? Room 350 was lovely especially the vast sea views. Very good seating area bed comfy and everything was clean and fresh. We stayed on the westcountry dbb and the food was excellent. Drinks prices in the bar not stupid money like some hotels we have stayed in. All the staff were welcoming with special mention for Tomsz in the bar and Colin in the restaurant. If planning a stay get a turret room as the views are great. Currently undergoing some renovations but looks like a good work in progress.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for posting a wonderful review. Room 350 is certainly one of my favourites. At our next management meeting I will pass on your positive comments to the bar, restaurant, kitchen and housekeeping. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

"Lovely Birthday Surprise "

16/11/2017

I stayed here with my fiancé for two nights which he booked as a birthday surprise. We had the newly renovated sea view suite which was very aptly named and had been done up nicely-quite a contrast going from the old fashioned lobby to a shabby chic room but very comfortable. My only two criticisms are that although the room was newly refurbished the windows are still ancient and we had 45mph winds that night which rattled the old windows so much that I was actually scared they were going to blow in! Subsequently we had to spend both nights sleeping in the living room as it was less noisy. The second night the fire alarm went off but was a false alarm but again it wasn't the greatest nights sleep and we were both tired which isn't the feeling you want on a luxury weekend away, especially as we were doing a road trip of Cornwall. My second point is that the lady on the front desk when we arrived was very unpleasant, not at all welcoming and despite the fact my fiancé told her this was a surprise for my birthday she blabbed the price right at me without even so much as a happy birthday! We had the same kind of service on check out with no personality or customer service that you would expect from this kind of a hotel. However the man who served us breakfast the second morning was very friendly and wasn't in a hurry so could spend time chatting which was lovely. Maybe he could give a few classes to the reception staff?! All in all it was a nice stay but mainly because of the thought my fiancé put into it but would have been so much better if the staff had been more friendly and we had a better nights sleep. Would probably stay again.

"Lowender Perran Triumph"

5
10/11/2017

We came to the Bristol for the annual Celtic Nations festival, Lowender Perran, and I have to say the hotel staff could not have been more welcoming. Since leaving it's home in Perranporth the festival was not well served by the previous Newquay hotel but I feel the Bristol is a perfect venue for this event. The public areas are roomy and clean, not fussy but practical and, better still, there's plenty of bars! The most impressive aspect of our stay was the staff. They were, without exception, smiley, attentive, diligent and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and they should be proud of themselves! Another plus was that the hotel did not take the mickey over prices. The food and drink were very reasonable although a 'House double' on the spirits would be nice. Well done Hotel Bristol - meur ras xx

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
We are so pleased to read you had a fantastic weekend here at the hotel. Being a new event to the hotel, our management team spent time pre-planning the event, so its wonderful to read such a positive review. We are happy to receive comments and will put forward your idea of a 'House Double' Our staff thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and we look forward to your return in 2018.

"Lowender Peran festival"

5
06/11/2017

I have attended the Lowender Peran festival for the best part of 30 years, this year it was held at the Hotel Bristol for the first time. The hotel & staff totally embraced the festival & made it an amazing weekend for all who attended! The number of staff on duty at all times was amazing & every single one of them extremely helpful & attentive. Food - not A la carte, but good value for money. Menu written especially for the festival and was served extremely quickly. Breakfast was plentiful & anything you asked for you got. Afternoon cakes were delicious & to top it all Cornish parties at the end of the night! A tradition of the festival that could not be missed. Accommodation - there is a rolling programme of refurbishment at the hotel I believe, I don't think it had reached our room, however the room was clean, beds comfortable, lovely hot powerful shower & rooms serviced well. Pool - a little tired, but water was very warm & my 7 year old loved a little splash about, so box ticked. Ladies toilets ground floor - refurbished, always clean, never out of toilet paper, just one little pointer, it was quite frustrating having to try each door every time to see if it was vacant. Some ladies stood there for ages waiting, only to find there wasn't actually anyone in there. Vacant/engaged (or similar) sign would be good Staff - now for the best bit, the staff were truly amazing ALL of the time across the board. Reception, porters (our bags were taken to our room before we turned around!), bar, waiters/waitresses, room attendants - I could go on & on & on. Big pat on the back to you all!

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
We are so pleased to read your wonderful review. The team worked really hard prior to the event pre planning, and during the festival to ensure everything ran smoothly. All our staff enjoyed the festival and we are looking forward to seeing you again next year. Thank you for a lively weekend.

02/11/2017

We have been staying at this hotel for over 40 years and return mainly because of the wonderful friendly staff. Whilst it is not the most modern hotel everything is kept spotless. The service is friendly and very efficient even when catering for large numbers. Even when we have functions at other hotels we always prefer to stay at the Hotel Bristol

A nice, friendly hotel in a great location for exploring Newquay, Good value with great breakfast. A short walk into the centre and close to the beaches and train station. Staff were helpful and the room had a great sea view. Overall very satisfied.

"A Shock To The System"

2
30/10/2017

From the website, I thought this was the best hotel in Newquay. It may well be, but I'm not returning to Newquay to find out. I stayed the night before the Bloodhound experience - first running at Newquay Airport. The reception staff member on the phone didn't know why the hotel was so busy that night...! Don't they know what is happening five miles away? Whilst the welcome at reception was good, I wasn't offered a newspaper or wake-up call. Not a problem. The newspaper was provided upon request. The room, although dated - particularly in the bathroom - was comfortable, and I slept well. The issues I had were poor lighting in the bedroom, the bar and in the restaurant - as another reviewer has stated. The hotel opened in 1927 and the lighting hasn't improved. I was seated at the same table for two meals where the lighting was so poor I could hardly read the menu. The same applied to the bedroom as far as reading was concerned. The bar lighting was straight out of the 1920s, with glare from bare bulbs making the experience one to avoid as quickly as possible. The other issue was the food quality. Whilst the breakfast was ok, the dinner was appalling. I ordered fillet steak - pan fried - where the chef obviously didn't know how to pan-fry a steak. It was a poor cut of meat anyway. The starter turned up 10 minutes before the wine I had ordered, so no correspondence between kitchen and serving staff. The hotel is stuck somewhere between 1929 and 1979, but could be so much better. Once upon a time, it was a Destination Hotel. It could be again, but needs money spent on it. Better than "Fawlty Towers", but out of date in this day and age, and what a waste of an opportunity. Best Western, invest more in this hotel! It should be so much better, but the owners are too complacent.

"Great place"

5
28/10/2017

I stayed here one night ahead of the recent Bloodhound trial. A great place, really made by the friendliness of the staff and the location. I didn't get a sea view room but other than that the room was fine, perhaps a bit dated in places. The bar was terrific, with the sea across the road in the near distance. Breakfast was a treat, with made to order hot food as an added bonus. All in all I wouldn't hesitate recommending this place.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We pride ourselves on the friendliness of our staff. We recently changed our breakfast to a" serve yourself" buffet style continental items, however, we felt it was important to serve hot food "to order£ so its good to read you enjoyed this option. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

"What a shock "

1
26/10/2017

First impression this place is a tired hotel and could do with a lick of paint. There's a door to go into reception for the staff but can be seen by customers covered in filthy dirt and it must be grease as well. The rooms are tired and dated. Terrible mattress it must be the cheapest mattress that Argos sell. The duvet is the size of a postage stamp. Now the service which is something else. When I arrived at 3.30pm the room was not ready. No apology from reception just told how busy they were. Would have been nice to have been offered a tea after driving for 8 hours to get there and while waiting 30 minutes. Also not offered a nice place to wait I found a chair in reception. Poor customer service. When the room was ready reception called across reception and just handed the key with no apology for the wait. The only thing she was interested in was-having my car moved from the front rather than providing customer service. Without taking into account and she knew there where was no where to park the car. “Oh” they said there is a fashion show on in the dining room they've taken all the parking spaces why not show customer and reserve some places for arriving paying customers! Again customer service. When walking to the room at 4pm there were loads of dirty linen left in the corridors. Looked horrible. In the room The curtains were marked I would not have that in my house therefore not wanted in a room I'm paying for. Breakfast what a terrible experience. The man who runs this is a control freak with no customer service experience. I requested a window seat to look out over the sea. This control freak told me he no free tables as he had allocated tables now there are approx 30 tables I don't believe all the tables were allocated. Also as I was the second person in the place surely he could have re allocated a table to please me. This is called customer service and not customer control. I've never been to butlins this man must have come from there the way he allocates and controls shows he has a desire to control the customer I can only imagine it is like that there. Also all the time I was there the table I wanted was never used. The lighting in the dining room is so dim you will need a touch. The man serving is very different to the table control man was very nice and should have the job the table control man has and sack the table control man. Yet when mr control freak was away from his sentry box three people wandered into the restaurant and sat where they wanted. The whole system is crazy. A blonde serving lady working here is selective in who she talks to. The three who wandered in got a wonderful welcome. Me, she ignored. Again customer service. No sign go of customer service in this place. Clearly don't won't to welcome customers to get repeat business. Just suck up to the current regulars. Will they comeback who knows? Don't stay here. There are loads of other hotels in the town. The staff here seem to have forgotten this. Go to another hotel who wants you and will give you customer service.

"Very dated hotel and very expensive"

22/10/2017

I stayed at the hotel Bristol for one night while visiting Newquay on business. Having read the reviews on here I thought I'd have a pleasant stay..... My room had a sea view which to be honest was the best part. The room smelt like an old people's home. The whole hotel is in bad need of modernisation and it's like stepping into the 70s. I guess i expected much more for £110 per night out of season, which is very expensive when compared to other, modern local hotel options. The bathroom again was very old, cracked tiles etc. The staff are great but I guess they are doing the best they can with what they have. The best parts of this hotel for me were the sea view and checking out. At £110 per night I was very disappointed.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I'm sorry to read the sea view room did not meet up to your expectations. The hotel commenced a refurbishment programme at the beginning of the year with 14 rooms refurbished prior to the busy summer season. Once the function season has ended we will be continuing this programme with a number of bedrooms and bathrooms being updated. If you book in the future, please speak to one of our reservations team and ask them to allocate you one of refurbished rooms if possible.

"An October Break"

20/10/2017

We could watch the surfers from the comfort of a sofa in our room. It is only a few minutes walk to the town centre and has adequate car-parking. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The food is first class, the breakfast is cooked to order and the dinner menu changes daily. A thoroughly enjoyable stay we will be back.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your positive comments. The surf certainly was at its best last week with the waves peaking at over 12 feet. I'm pleased to read you had a wonderful stay and we look forward to your return.

"Two Night Break"

12/10/2017

First of all the hotel is tired.Clean and well laid out but tired. The outside does not fill you with confidence when you see the front of the hotel and the back looks worse, you see this as the car park is at the back, which is excellent. My room was a double with a sea view, there had been leaks in roof which were evident in the ceiling and walls which were artex covered! We booked dinner but were ignored as there was a Rotary dinner in the large dinning room, the food was good. Breakfast was quite different as we had to wait both mornings for a table to be laid, again the food was good. The price we paid was high for the standard of service we recieved. Not good.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments. The hotel commenced a refurbishment programme at the start of the year with 14 rooms being updated. This was put on hold during the busy Summer Season and has recommenced, as we enter a quieter period. I'm sorry your felt ignored whilst dining in our restaurant and had to wait for tables to be laid at breakfast. Both these incidents are currently being investigated by our General Manager with the Restaurant team. This is not to the standard we would expect you receive and I would like to apologise for the Hotel not meeting your expectations. Its pleasing to read you enjoyed the food served during your stay

Lovely position close to beach bus zoo and town the rooms are a bit tired but the staff certainly are not they are excellent the breakfast and dinner both very good as is the service now for the not so good bitsthe bathroom left a lot to be desired the tv in room was about the size of a i pad you had to sit on the end of the bed to watch it and the dining room opened at 7 15 bit late for us but will probably stay again

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments. We are currently working on a refurbishment programme, updating rooms and bedrooms, with 14 already completed. We are very lucky to be situated in a central position, close to the beaches, town centre, and attractions.

"No Complaints Here"

05/10/2017

This will be the third time we have stayed here and have enjoyed each stopover. It has been stated that the rooms are out dated and require refurbishment. Yes they do but the bed was comfortable and I don't spend much time in the room. So, what's going well for this hotel and why keep returning? The staff in all departments make the stay a relaxing and stress free stay. The restaurant was excellent, both for dinner and breakfast, for food and service. That's what I want in a good hotel and that's why we will return again. It might not be the cheapest one around but it is only 3 star and we like it.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
It's pleasing to read this is your third stay at the hotel and that you've enjoyed each visit. I'll inform the kitchen staff that the food served was excellent, and housekeeping, that your bed was comfortable. We have a number of refurbished rooms so when you are next making a reservation, please speak to reception and see if they can allocate you one of these rooms. We look forward to your return.

We popped down for the afternoon to Newquay and decided to stay the night. Staff were lovely really helpful, had a lovely room with a sea view. I liked the fact the room was traditional. Not all minimal chrome etc. Bed was really big and comfortable. View beautiful. The breakfast was yummy lots of choice. And hooray decent cutlery, so many places do a nice table and have cheap and nasty knives and forks. I really liked this place.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. I'm pleased to read our staff were helpful, the bedroom met your expectations with a comfy bed and that breakfast had a large choice and was enjoyed. We look forward to you staying with us again in the future.

The room was done beautifully for their RECEPTION and the food was superb you couldn't fault it. The staff as always were polite and friendly and made it extra special as both WENDY and Colin are part of the staff at the Bristol.Compliments to the chef Pam for a splendid meal. The evening buffet was nice although not all of us eat pasties !!! I booked 3 rooms for our family overnight stay all rooms were spotless and comfortable and very quiet. The room provided for the bride and groom was done so lovely for them they loved it, if anyone thinks of having a wedding there I and all our guests would strongly recommend it.

Expensive . and this hotel is old and outdated . In fact embarrassed to stay there. If I owned a bed like this it would be in the skip. Bathrooms are old and rotten. . Surely British accommodation is better than this.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
The Hotel Bristol is an older type building. We are currently working through a refurbishment programme including a number of bedrooms and certain public areas. I'm sure you would have seen our newly refurbished Small Lounge Area during your stay. The programme was stopped during the busy summer season and will be commencing again shortly.

Thoroughly enjoyable two night stay. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional. View from our room over Tolcarne beach was stunning. Bed was comfy and in a spacious room. Everything was clean and tidy throughout the hotel. Food was very good and always piping hot. Ideal place to stay for a stay in Newquay as it is only a short walk to the town or to explore further afield. Eden Project is only 19 miles away.

"Another great stay at the Bristol"

14/09/2017

We have just returned from another wonderful stay at the Hotel Bristol. It was lovely to see the same helpful, friendly staff in all departments. The ongoing refurbishment programme at the hotel is clear to see in all areas of the hotel. Our room has recently been refurbished and wow, what an improvement-very comfortable and pleasant. The views from the 2nd and 3rd floor front rooms are stunning, especialy at Sunset! Our only slight disappointment was with the changes to Breakfast. It is much more of the modern self service style now, however, thankfully, the cooked Breakfast is still cooked fresh in the Kitchen and served to you on lovely hot plates. I personaly am not a fan of toasting my own bread in the Restaurant, this is not a problem as the brilliant waiting staff are still more than happy to serve your toast from the Kitchen with your cooked food. Brilliant family run hotel in an excellent position. Thank you to Howard and family and staff for looking after us again so well. We very much look forward to our return visit next year

"Friday fizz and fish fritter night"

3
09/09/2017

Booked 6 people in at 7.45pm for Friday nights offer of fizz and fresh fish fritters.Waited to Try this offer after the holiday season had finished as we are locals. Got to our reserved bar tables and was immediately served our fizz and we ordered the fresh fish fritters at the same time. Our grandson was over fromAustralia and could not wait to taste the fresh fish fritter. We waited a while and then asked where our meal was and told it would not be too long the restaurant was busy.Sorry but that does not wash especially as we waited till holiday season had finished- you are a Hotel first and foremost.and should not come up with these excuses.!!!!Over a good hour later still no meal - went up to bar again and was told it won't be long and got some complementary drinks. Well over an hours wait, food finally arrived. We tried to decificer what fresh fish was in the fritters- there was none to speak of- we were served up what looked like vegetable fritters, very greasy and and no one in our party touched any of the so called Fresh Fish Fritters so our meal consisted of French fries.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I'm sorry to hear that you had a disappointing experience with our "Friday, Fizz & Fish Fritters". I believe the food served was not to our normal high standard and I would like to apologise on behalf of the hotel. Our General Manager is investigating your experience with our kitchen team to ensure this does not happen again. We would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention and, once again, please accept our sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations.

"Friendly Staff & Close to beach"

03/09/2017

We stayed at the hotel during the August bank holidays with my two small kids. The hotel staff were all very friendly and polite. They made us feel very welcome. Look wise the hotel has traditional old school British hotel vibe to it. The guests at this hotel were mostly old folks and families with young kids so it was perfect for us. They have a decent free car park just behind the hotel. The family room we were given on 3rd floor (especially the bathroom) was spacious. It had one double bed and a single bed. The sea view was a bit obstructed but we never had the time to sit and relax to enjoy the view with kids. They didn't have a mini bar though. The family friendly beach was right across the road. You can take stairs or take buggy as the beach has stair free way down as well. Tesco Express is 2 mins from hotel. Very useful when you have kids and want get chips, juice, water etc.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Its lovely to read your family enjoyed their stay at our hotel. We pride ourselves on friendly, helpful staff. The hotel is very lucky, having two large carparks available to our guests and our location is handy being only 5 minutes into the town centre.

Our room the first floor turret room was requested as we had stayed last year. The room is a good size and has in all you would need. There is wi fi and it does work all the time unlike a lot of hotels who do advertise it. the location is 2nd to none as you are just outside the town but can walk in within 5- 10 minutes. The meals we had booked only breakfast which was excellent but we booked two evening meals that were also superb and we enjoyed.

I'm pleased to read you enjoyed your stay in the 1st Floor Turret Room. Myself, I love all three turret rooms. The third floor turret has been recently refurbished. I'm pleased to inform you this is receiving favourable reviews from our guests. You may wish to consider viewing this room on your next visit.

"Dated noisy hotel"

This hotel is well situated but due to the aged decor and my room location it was not possible to get privacy or a nights sleep. The lighting in the bathroom was poor and I would not recommend the showers.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I'm sorry you did not get a good night's sleep and the bathroom was not to your liking. We are looking to continue this programme throughout the coming winter months with more of our rooms being decorated and new bathrooms fitted.

A traditional hotel in a good location. The rooms are a good standard & the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom has been upgraded & was immaculate, the shower was the best I have used. Good cleanliness & the room always smelt clean & fresh. Friendly polite & helpful staff. There can be an issue with noise caused by people walking in the corridor between rooms at night (creaking floorboards), If you are a light sleeper it might be worth discussing with staff about this situation & the location of quieter rooms at the end of corridors. I will stay there again & I will recommend it to friends & relations. Thanks Best Western. GG

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your positive comments. I'm sorry you experienced creaking floorboards during your stay. When you next plan to visit our Hotel, please ask the reservation team to allocate you a room in a quieter part of the hotel. Very happy to read our staff were friendly, polite and helpful.

"Great Location BUT in desperate need of Renovation"

This is a great location - you are directly across from Tolcarne beach with sea views and a huge grassy park that leads you on the coastal path and either into the headlands (to the north) or a quick stroll into town (to the south). The people were so nice and quick check in/check out. I stayed in a big single with a perfect view to the beach, BUUUUT the rooms are in dire dire dire need of a renovation. It's pretty overpriced for the quality (but I was there on a bank holiday weekend where everything was sold out). The bathrooms while mostly clean are extremely old and outdated. The room while it had everything I needed, had verryyyyyyy old carpet, old upholstery, dirty windows, and a very uncomfortable mattress and pillows (although sheets seemed new and soft). This place just needs a massive facelift. However the location is great and even though I booked as a single I had a sea facing room which was nice (but road makes it a bit noisy). I really recommend Tolcarne and Lusty Glaze beach - they are just beautiful. And Watergate Bay not too far down the coast if you like to run its a great loop. All in all, I hope they can update, because while I loved the geography, I would not stay there again.

Thank you for your comments. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme which was postponed during the busy summer season. We are looking to continue the programme during the quieter winter months. We will be decorating a number of rooms, including bathrooms. I agree The Hotel is situated in a superb location, close to a number of beaches and 5 minutes from the centre of town. We pride ourselves on wonderful, friendly staff and it is pleasing to read you received a quick check in/out/.

Probably the best hotel I have stayed at this year, friendly professional staff and the Value for money is incredible Highlight of my stay was the restaurant, where the cost of the food is ridiculously cheap compared to the quality, and if you are lucky enough to get a window table, the view makes it even better

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
May thanks for your wonderful comments. We pride ourselves on friendly, professional staff. I'm really pleased to read you enjoyed the food in our restaurant. When you decide to visit again, just mention that you would like a window table and we will try our best to accommodate your request.

"4th year to return to this great hotel"

22/08/2017

This was our 4th visit to this hotel, we were a party of 6 ,, my son and family had a large sea view room with adjoining room for the two boys, which had its own tv the boys loved it, they had the same room as last year, but the room had been redecorated and refurbished, very tastefully done, this is a traditional hotel and slowly they are refurbishing and upgrading rooms and bathrooms, As usual the staff and service were excellent, and the food was very good, excellent breakfast and good dinner menus, this hotel is family owned, and it certainly shows in the friendly and efficient way the hotel is run, we are about to book again for 2018, and after holidaying in Newquay for at leased 40 years staying in many of newquay 's hotel ,we would not stay any where else

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. We are pleased to read that you like the redecorated and refurbished room and the boys loved their room with its own TV. Our hotel is known locally for friendly staff and excellent service and it is always lovely to hear this from our guests. As mentioned, we are a family run hotel with the hotel being with The Young Family for the last 90 years.

"Massively overpriced very dated and dank hotel"

1
22/08/2017

Massively overpriced for what it is. extremely dated building, rooms and reception/bar area. Very very expensive bar prices with no entertainment on the Saturday, not even backround music. In the room, rusty towel rail holder, mouldy roof above shower, cramped shower, cracked shelves in bathroom, in fact the whole bathroom looks like its from 1963 (Yellow coloured sweet from the 60's). The rest of the room was dated, the TV is microscopic and a million miles from the bed. The windows are 1970's box sash and so every wind or road noise comes straight through, as well as the draft. All furniture in the room is ancient, theres no fridge, no safe etc etc and the place is generally in need of a refit and has been overdue for some 30 years. There is no possibility I would stay here again. For £130 a night, we expect much much better. To cap it off, when we went to reception on the last day, we were not even spoken to at all, we were simply faced with a stone cold miserable woman who just wanted to take the money !!

BWHB, Managing Director at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
On reading your review another guest rang me to say how sorry he was. He didn't think it was a fair representation of our hotel. I am sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. We are an old hotel, we don't claim to be modern. Yes we do have bathrooms that need refurbishment, some have yellow suites. We have invested in recent years and in fact your bedroom had new beds, furniture & carpets fitted in March 2016. We had intended to blitz the bathroom as well but we ran out of time to complete that phase prior to our busy season. Had you mentioned the problems you encountered during your stay we would have dealt with matters promptly. It is not acceptable that the Receptionist at check out was not cheerful and she has let us down. I sincerely apologise for her attitude and I will remind the front office team of my family's expectations for good service and hospitality.

"Friendly with a beautiful location"

20/08/2017

We stayed three nights at this hotel. Either you will think that this hotel needs a makeover to update it to a more modern look, or you will love the old style that is in a pretty good shape. I can't make up my mind. One thing would be to change some of the carpets maybe. Anyway we enjoyed the food here. We had a Bed and breakfast package and enjoyed some great hot vegetarian Cornish breakfasts. My family is not easy to please. Three vegetarians and one kid which only eats hot smoked salmon or chicken more or less. And that without and sauce and not much spices. We enjoyed eating at the bar and they will also let you order the restaurant food there. Used the swimming pool once and it was better than expected. Quite warm and enjoyable water. My teens loved it. Also when booking this hotel, quite late, they were very accommodating and helped me find a nice room for two adults, one 18 year old adult and one kid. That is not possible to book online with one room on many hotels. Thanks.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. Our Hotel certainly has character. The hotel is a family run business that has been with the Young Family for 90 years. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme with last year seeing the carpet replaced on the first floor. During room upgrades, carpets are usually replaced. I'm pleased to read your family enjoyed our Vegetarian breakfasts and that the reception team were very helpful with your booking. I will pass these comments to our team at the next weekly meeting.

"Average, okay if you lower your expectations"

20/08/2017

This hotel is very typical of the large seafront hotels that once dominated our coastal resorts and seems to be happy to remain in that style. I didn't opt for breakfast as it's over priced compared for what you can get in town (cooked), or from Tesco a couple of doors up (continental). The original room we were allocated on the 3rd floor was terrible. The wind meant that the old wooden sash windows constantly rattled loudly and you could feel the breeze coming through. Plus it must have been a room that had not yet been modernised as the bathroom looked very basic and 70's. Reception were understanding and quickly allocated me a room on the first floor which had far better windows. The room was nicer but still lacked that modern style. One thing that really surprised me was that when I parked in the car park behind it was almost full (luckily there was one space free), I reported to reception that three selfish people had double parked across two bays which meant three spaces were unusable. The hotel did not seem too concerned about this (perhaps people other than the hotel use the car park) but I thought they could have taken it a little more seriously as they were likely to have been guests. I notice that management always comment on trip advisor reviews, I hope that you sort out those windows in the rooms (as the room we had really was unusable for a night's sleep) on the top floor and make those rooms a little more 'homely' and modern.

Thank you for review. The Hotel Bristol is a family run business that has been with The Young Family for the last 90 years. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme, updating rooms, windows, bathrooms and public areas. I'm sure you would have seen our newly refurbished Lounge area. I do not know if you were informed that the Full English Breakfast includes visiting the buffet area as often as you wish which includes the following:- A variety of Fruit Juices A selection of Pastries French Sticks with Jam, Ham & Cheese Fresh Fruit Cereals Yogurt with Fruit Compote Toast Tea/Coffee This is in addition to a choice of one of the following:- Full English Breakfast Smoked Salmon Haddock Kippers The hotel has two car parks which are patrolled on behalf of the Hotel on a regular basis, with any problems, bought to the Duty manager's attention. The car park directly behind the hotel is shared with another hotel. If there is poor parking we do contact the hotel asking them to inform their guests of this situation. I am pleased to read that our Reception team were helpful in allocating you an alternative room.

"Family Holiday "

11/08/2017

Just back from a 10 day holiday at a cost of over £1400 bed and breakfast. We have stayed here for the past 4 years and unfortunately seen a reduction in standards over this time Whilst accepting other comments that the rooms are clean and dated it's time that the windows were cleaned outside a bit more frequently. The sea view rooms are large and In the main have great views but need updating We found that the following changes did not enhance our experience and we will think twice before committing to another visit. Breakfast is now portion controlled and it is no longer possible to enjoy thin sliced toast .to have to queue to toast your own doorstep slices is not a memorable experience.Paper napkins are now the norm and often breakfast items have run out and you have to ask the staff to replace them. Croissants, orange juice, rolls, and dishes are the main culprits [met the porter in Tesco buying 6 cartons of juice one morning during the Breakfast period] Service is no longer as slick as it used to be dirty plates are left on the table for far too long. There seems to be a cost cutting exercise underway to the detriment of guests. The hotel is geared to package trips from the continent and so is very busy in the restaurant to meet the early coach departures leading to a drop in service levels, beware breakfasting at the wrong time. Did not see a director or a senior manager over the period of our stay, how do you know how you are treating your guests? Bottled water is no longer available in the bedroom and a free morning paper a thing of the past. You cannot pay for your morning paper with a prepaid coupon hence the trip to Tesco every morning good fun in the rain. What are you paying premium room rates for? This was a hotel we rated as one of the best in Newquay 4 years ago not any more

BWHB, Managing Director at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to post a review about your recent stay. I am sorry that you were not happy with certain aspects of your stay. We have not yet refurbished the room you have stayed in but we have continued to upgrade this winter & you can view examples of what we have done on our FB page. The guests I have spoken to have raved about the improvements we have made to their usual rooms. We have never provided free bottled water in our bedrooms until recently when we provied it in our executive rooms. Best Western has replaced the complimentary newspaper for their Rewards members in January 2016, and replaced it with other benefits. We are happy to take newspaper vouchers and I will remind all our Reception team of this. This year we have made changes to breakfast with the intention of improving our offering. Following feedback about packaging waste we have removed packaged cereals and jams and guests can help themselves to as much cereal, jam etc as they like. We have always had paper napkins at breakfast but this year instead of white, we chose navy. When staying in other hotels I have always found the toast provided to be thin, cold and served at the wrong time, and so this year we have provided toasters in the dining room for guests to make their own. We are still very happy to bring toast to the table should any guest prefer. Finding the correct level of staff for breakfast has always been a challenge - we are open from 7.15 until 9.45 and no two days are the same - we don't ask guests to book a time and when many people arrive at the same time it is a challenge to serve everybody quickly. We don't have a buffet for the cooked breakfast that many hotels provide. We believe that the quality is never as good as that provided, as we do, with taking individual orders and serving from the kitchen. I am sorry you didn't see me during your stay but i can reassure that my team and I are always avaliable to speak to guests and are always happy to sort out any concerns are guests have if we are given the opportunity.

"Most enjoyable stay"

05/08/2017

We (a group of 48 friends!) spent 3 most enjoyable nights at Hotel Bristol. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms suited us perfectly and we were made tgo feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We particularly enjoyed our meals (breakfast and evening meal) and a relaxing drink in the bar to round off the day. Thanks very much!

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
We are pleased to read you positive review. Our staff are passionate and always aim to be helpful to our guests. I will pass your comments on to the Department Heads at our weekly meeting who will then inform their teams.

"A very good stay, excellent service"

19/07/2017

We stayed as a family and the hotel staff went far beyond the normal to make us welcome. The family room(s) slept 6, with a small side room for two, a double bed and two singles in the large main room. The bathroom was a little dated, and the shower seemed to have a resident poltergeist which moved the water from scalding to freezing at random, but the beds were comfortable and the views over the sea were excellent, with some lovely sunsets. The restaurant offered a good choice for breakfast and a reasonable one for dinner, although I felt the bar menu was actually better in the evenings (warning - ordering off the bar menu in the restaurant has a 20% surcharge, which I can understand for a single person, but seems a bit ott when a family is mainly eating of the restaurant menu). Breakfasts were excellent, and Colin (restaurant manager) always seemed on hand to talk to us about our plans for the day. Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I'm glad to hear the team looked after you during your stay and will pass on your comments at our next staff meeting. We will be continuing our refurbishment programme here at the hotel after the Summer season. I must agree, our sea view rooms are wonderful to watch the beautiful sunsets in the bay. I'm pleased to read that you felt the restaurant had a good selection of options for breakfast and dinner. I take note of your comment regarding the 20% surcharge and will raise this with the Management team. I do believe the surcharge was waivered for the meal eaten in our restaurant. We hope to see you again soon

hotel is ok, a bit dated but it works, seaside hotel, so seaside standard the room was ok for the night, no complaints. The swimming pool is small 15m long, no lockers, one changing room and carry your clothes with you to the poolside. didnt bother with breakfast as it was way too expensive

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
We are pleased to receive your review. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme. In the future, work is expected to be completed in the pool area. I'm sorry you felt breakfast was too expensive. We do offer a variety of options:- Continental/Full English in the Restaurant with a Brunch Menu being served in the bar area from 9.30am until noon with a number of individually priced items.

10/07/2017

The fabric of the building could do with some updating but our room was adequate, clean and comfortable with a glorious sea view. There were 2 disabled parking spaces and ample ordinary spaces. The staff even allowed us to park our mobility scooter in a room by reception. I could not fault the staff for efficiency and apparent delight in making our stay a joy. I half expected Hercule Poirot to make an entrance in the very high ceilinged Art Deco style dining room.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. The Hotel Bristol is a family run hotel that has been in the family for 90 years. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme. I'm sure, during your stay you were able to enjoy "The refurbished Small Lounge". This week, I am pleased to report, new signage has been installed at the front and back of the hotel. Car parking here is not an issue as we have two large car parks. I'm pleased to read your positive comments regarding the team and will inform them at our next management meeting.

Cornwall was the last stop of our five week stay in Great Britain. Hotel Bristol was great! The room was fine, the staff was excellent, and the view of the coastline from our window was amazing! Can't say enough about the friendly, cooperative front desk, bar and dining room staff. Will definitely stay here again!

03/07/2017

A family room was the cheapest available, so lots of space for a couple. Furnishings good (recent?). Great sea view. Lift adequate. Parking excellent. Restaurant good, but we did have to wait 30 minutes for our main course once, until the coach trips had been served their starters. Our room was on the front, 2nd floor, but not troubled by noise. Double glazing effective in a gale - and did not rattle.

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments. As all food orders are freshly prepared by our Chefs, during busy periods, there may be a slight delay. I am pleased to hear the double glazing in your room did not rattle and kept the noise out during the recent poor weather conditions. I hope the weather did not spoil your stay in Newquay.

"Very average"

03/07/2017

Clean, functional and well situated. Rooms in need of an upgrade, beds lumpy and soft and teeny television in room. Did not eat here so cannot comment on food. Parking at rear of hotel which is adequate but did struggle to find a parking space. Average, very average!

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. The hotel is currently working through a refurbishment programme which includes a number of bedrooms. We have already upgraded some of the rooms to Executive status, which have larger TVs. Unsure if you were made aware at check in, the hotel has two car parks, one directly behind the back of the hotel and a one, 100 yards further along. This is a pay and display car park which, has a resident of the hotel you may utilise.

12/06/2017

The family went here on a Sunday evening having supper in the bar. All had three courses which all went down well. Yes you might ask? The service by the staff was excellent. We were informed that the food may take a while, good touch. To better that, rather than me having to get up and ask why is it taking this long, staff were at our table very apologetic and offered another round of drinks. At all times staff were courteous. Prices on a par with other less salubrious places in the local. Like a good Pilzner? Try the local Cornish one. Hits the spot.......

, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Dear Gary, Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed your Sunday evening supper in our bar. Its good to hear your family had a wonderful time. I'm pleased to read our staff looked after you and that you enjoyed the Cornish beer.

We had a good night sleep, but there is no A/C nor screens to keep Bugs out if you venture to open windows. Spacious family room with an ocean view #259. Second floor has several levels. Restaurant closes around 9 pm.

"Lovely place to stay, shame about the pool"

19/05/2017

Lovely hotel, fantastic staff, good food, great views from the sea-side rooms. Unfortunately on weekday afternoons till 6.30pm the swimming pool is now given over to swimming classes for (non-resident) young children, ruling out a quiet afternoon swim. Choose the Victoria Hotel if you're organising a hen party, a Travelodge if you only like hotels built within the last couple of years. If none of the above is an obstacle, the Bristol really is a very nice place to stay.

We stayed here for 4 nights whilst getting away for a bit, we were on bed and breakfast which was good..it would be nice if the hot food was Buffett as well as with the hot food you only got one bit of bacon and one sausage etc..Colin in the restaurant was very friendly and welcoming Room was nice and clean The evening meals in the restaurant were a bit pricey

"Cornwall Male Voice Choir Festival"

17/05/2017

We stayed at the family run Hotel Bristol whilst attending the Cornwall Festival for male voice choirs in April 2017 for 5 nights.. Our choir the "Rossendale Male Voice Choir " numbered about 55 people singers and partners. From check in to check out the hotel service was first rate. All the staff were friendly and helpful -the food and service in the dining room was very good especially considering we were a large group. The bedrooms were clean and fresh and well maintained. The hotel has a good position on the cliff top and only a stroll into Newquay town. I would use the hotel again either as a group or individually.

15/05/2017

Booked this hotel as it was pet friendly and a good price. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Easy to find and plenty of parking free. Breakfast was lovely. Beaches near by amazing. Downside- the rooms are in major need of updating although comfortable lots of old fashioned decor which really needs to be addressed. The sea view room had a stained headboard full of marks so we changed rooms to another sea view which was lovely just old fashioned and again marks on furniture and just needed a spruce up! . They have decorated a room downstairs opposite reception where we had breakfast with out dogs and that was lovely , fresh and modern. Don't be deceived by the lovely modern photos on the website of the rooms we saw 3 and none were like the website pictures.

Very impressed with every aspect of Hotel Bristol for our 5 night stay. All of the staff were first class, nothing was too much trouble and all our requests were met with a positive response, even altered meal times to allow us to leave early for our evening concerts were readily agreed to.The hotel was immaculately clean throughout and our sea view room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed. Our party consisted of 55 people and the service in the restaurant by Emma and her team was exceptional. The food was of excellent quality and always served piping hot with plenty of choice. I have travelled extensively throughout the UK in my job and can definitely recommend this hotel as up there with the best. Thank you Hotel Bristol, I am sure we will be back. Peter Beetham

06/05/2017

We have just spent 5 nights at the Hotel with our Rossendale choir and were really impressed, particularly with the staff, service and food. Any request we made was responded to quickly and with a smile. All our party agreed the restaurant service and food was great. Although the fabric of the hotel and rooms is rather dated all areas were warm and immaculate, we feel all the other aspects of our stay more than compensated for this.

03/05/2017

About 50 of us stayed at the Best Western Bristol Hotel for 5 nights at the end of April 2017. The only negative was the weather!!!! We could not praise the the hotel enough. The rooms were warm, clean and very comfortable. The bed was of a very good standard and we slept well. We were lucky to have a wonderful sea view. The food was very good, fresh, delicious and served piping hot. I am coeliac, but the lovely staff brought me a Gluten free menu and ensured I had the same choices. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. I am sure we would love we would love to return to this hotel for the next festival. Well done Best Western

A lovely old hotel on the sea front. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Meals were delicious and well presented. We had a really pleasant stay here. Very close to the town and beach and cliff walks. Would definitely use again. Only two minor gripes - sash Windows rattle like mad. Lift is far too small and at times unusable because of cleaners gossiping and keeping their finger on the buttons. Very annoying for people who find the stairs hard.

26/04/2017

Good location and hotel very clean but a little dated. Very Art Deco style. The only problem we had was that the swimming pool was being used late afternoons for private lessons. We could still use it but we felt in the way. It was obviously being used at this time for children after school but most people wanted a swim after a day out.

"A trip back in Time"

24/04/2017

We have just spent 6 nights at this wonderfully atmospheric and nostalgic hotel. Some could describe it as "dated" but I would say it was very much a period piece. I almost expected to find Jane Marple in the lounge with her knitting partaking of afternoon tea (which is served every afternoon). The lounge and bar are light and airy with stunning views, and the barman was very attentive, supplying crisps, olives and a proper G & T (with Fenteman's tonic no less). The huge dinning room was also a visual delight with acres of crisp white table cloths. The food was good (with Silver Service - what a treat)and bar food is also available in a less formal atmosphere. We were booked for 4 nights on a last minute booking but decided to stay an extra two nights. Our first room did not have a sea view and was a bit problematical for me as I have mobility problems so although there was a lift to the floor I had to negotiate 3 small sets of stairs, which I wasn't warned about in advance. However we were able to change room for the last two nights and benefitted from a sea view room which was very good. The bathrooms are old but everything works and there are beautifully clean. I had booked room only rates on line and breakfast is quite an expensive add on so it is probably worth booking B & B. I took my two dogs who were made welcome but there is a £12 per night per dog charge which I thought was on the high side. Overall I would recommend this hotel (which has been owned and run by the same family for 90 years) if you don't expect ultra modern décor, because along with the old fashioned décor you do get old fashioned service.

"Not nice at all!!!"

21/04/2017

- the staff is not friendly if we didn't say hello they said nothing, just look at us. - Noisy neighbor, completely drunk at 4am (we heard everything), I had to go to the reception - Even if it's not noisy, you will heard everything - Curtains were broken - A strong smell in the corridor, really not nice (like chemical products) - Breakfast is just ok -we felt like we are not welcome in this hotel -we just stayed to sleep because the atmosphere is really not good -accommodations are really old

"Average hotel with kind staff"

20/04/2017

Was there for 5 nights, the room was huge and clean but the decor was still stuck in the 80's. The shower was really weak, not pressure at all. Felt like I was having a shower under droplets. The staff were extremely kind, friendly and courteous no matter what time it was. Breakfast was ok, in the grand dining room. The wifi is really good at this please.

19/04/2017

Having undergone a seven an half hour journey we found the spacious car park at the back of the hotel,as it was only lunch time we called at reception to see if it was ok if we could leave the car as check in was 3pm. The receptionist told us our room was ready so we were pleased to drop our bags off & freshen up. Our hotel sea view was amazing. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was from 7.15 to 9.45 which is a good time scale. The cooked breakfast was of good quality decent sausages and thick back bacon plus we had a window table. All the staff were friendly especially the head waiter. We also used the swimming pool in the hotel and the bar at night. Would visit this hotel again in the future as it was near all the amenities only short walking distance to the zoo, town & fistral beach.

"The word "Best" should not be used in anything regarding this hotel!"

17/04/2017

We have just come back from what was meant to be a what we thought was a luxurious stay in this hotel! How wrong could we be? We actually cut our visit short by a night and had it not taken us 8 hours to get there we wouldn't have stayed at all. What an utter disappointment this "Best western" hotel is. It is very, very dated and is in need of some major updating. The smell when you walk in resembles an old antiquated house. The carpets are dirty and every wall is covered in artex/woodchip. The breakfast was also the "worst" we have ever had, you can fill up on toast and cereal but your cooked breakfast will consist of one sausage, one piece of bacon an egg, a small spoon of beans a handful of mushrooms and a few fried potatoes. Not at all on a standard that we have ever had from any other Best western hotel. We paid £120 a night for B&B not worth anywhere near that amount. Obviously this is just our opinion but there is no way I would recommend this unless you can get an absolute bargain!

Celebrating Mother's Day with my partners family where better on a beautiful sunny day than the Hotel Bristol - my first trip but a long time favourite of the locals and I can see why. A warm welcome awaits you in the bar with your reserved table to peruse the menu and have a pre lunch drink as you would expect some great local ales on tap and a great value and varied wine list. Moving into the large dining room with fantastic views of the sea, you have large tables (all full) receive silver service (rare these days) and excellent value 3 course meal. The starter of fish cakes were light and delicious, as was the pate the main choices of meat and fish were equally delicious with plenty of veg to go round, the desert were top notch too from the traditional pudding to the light mousse and coffee to follow. A warm family welcome, delicious food, great service and one of the best views in Newquay, you would have to try hard to beat it, highly recommend and we will be back!

I stayed at the Hotel Bristol whilst working in Newquay. There is a good size car park at the rear oh the Hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, I had to leave very early and the Hotel staff delivered freshly brewed coffee to my room prior to departure. The room was a generous size with a comfortable bed. Would definitely stay again.

"Came here for a nice lunch"

Living nearby, I don't need to stay at the hotel but do use it on occasion for dining and the most recent was last Sunday where I had a 3 course lunch of Smoked Salmon Starter, Roast Lamb with veg and a Lemon & Ginger Posset all of which were really nice. The waiting staff and bar staff are all pleasant and you always receive good service at this hotel and restaurant.

"I was member of a Ladies Choir staying at the hotel in order to perform in a concert near Wadebridge."

Checking in with a large group was done very quickly, the room was delightful, large with a splendid view of the sea. The bed was comfortable, and a small problem with the shower was dealt with immediately. The food was excellent and although we arrived fairly late, everything was freshly cooked and the staff were excellent serving us all very quickly. This hotel contributed to a very pleasant (although busy) weekend. Added to all this, they also managed to provide us with hot sunshine and blue skies.

"Friends Night out"

06/04/2017

Once again we spent a couple of nights at the Bristol Hotel, Newquay and yet again what a lovely weekend it was, Still the same high standard of service plus the rooms are so comfortable, the food was excellent and you cannot escape the view from the sea facing rooms. Looking forward to the next visit which I hope will be later in the year.

"Comfortable room with excellent service"

I spent a night after a dinner event here. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient. Helped by upgrading my room from the one the computer had allocated! The room was comfortable and well furnished. My only suggestion would be to improve the water pressure on the shower.

"Fabulous food"

28/11/2016

Stayed in the Turret room last month, spacious, warm (had to turn radiators down), spotlessly clean, amazingly comfortable bed. The staff are approachable and friendly, nothing too much trouble. Returned on Saturday for a black tie function and the food was exceptional, great atmosphere and well organised. The hotel knows how to do hospitality with a capital H, can't praise it enough.

"As good as last time"

27/11/2016

This hotel maintains its standards of service, friendliness and good food from each of my visits, year on year. They are able to host events in a professional manner without losing that all important personal touch and the location looking over the beach/sea is lovely. I have stayed in double and single rooms and both are comfortable, clean and have good bed linen. The rooms to the front of the hotel have huge windows that look out onto the sea. Breakfast is very good, with lots of choices; both hot and cold. Looking forward to returning in Nov 2017 for the next Extreme Jive event.

"Original Retro - Consistently Good"

23/11/2016

I stayed last November 2015 and returned this November 2016 - i had a different room, on the top floor this time, with no sea view. However the room was just as comfortable, clean and thick curtains that blocked out the light. The room was on a main corridor leading to other rooms and the lift way along hall - no noise - all door closers worked peacefully - brilliant sleeps for 2 nights. Fabulous place, everything functions - this is true original retro!

Warmly greeted at reception, nice surprise upgraded to a large front sea view room. Had our little dog with us bed, blanket and bowl waiting for him in the room. Although the hotel is getting on a bit in years everything was clean, warm and welcoming, staff very polite and approachable, excellent choice to stay just on the edge of Newquay town. Would we come back to Hotel Bristol ? Most definitely.

"A very old fashioned seaside hotel"

21/11/2016

My wife & I stayed for two nights, one of which was a blarge function. The hotel was very quaint in that old fashioned way, very clean with lovely helpful staff. On the first night we thought we were alone in the lounge but suddenly got caught up in a reuinion party who were terrific people. They had booked a singer who crooned out all of Frank Sinatra & Dean Martins greatest hits with a bit of Tony Bennett & Matt Monroe. He was fantastic, afterwards we were included in an old fashioned singalong complete with the words to all the songs. It was typical of the friendly ambience of the two days we were there. The following evening was a black tie annual dinner, very good food, great service & too much to drink! The weather was not very good & the wind made it difficult to walk out but the scenery looked lovely & we came back via the coast road, which was beautiful. The bedroom was a bit too cold & never really warmed up despite leaving the radiators on. I bumped my head 3 times through the night because of the low beams but the last two times was my fault because I knew they were there! No sympathy from the wife. The decor was very 1960's but I quite liked it in a funny sort of way & I had to run around in the shower to get wet but overall it was a nice short stay & the lovely staff made it special.

"Very good hotel on the sea front. Excellent location for Newquay."

15/11/2016

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, arriving on Fri 11.11.16 and departing on Sun 13.11.16. I parked my car in the hotel car park at the rear of the hotel. There is a rear entrance to the hotel from the car park. The location of the hotel is on the seafront, so it is in a nice location. There is a recently built Tesco Express, within about 1-2 minutes walk from the front entrance to the hotel, which is very useful. When leaving the front entrance to the hotel, turn right, walk along the seafront road (on the same side as the Hotel Bristol) and you will see the Tesco shop ahead. The hotel has period charm. It would appear to have recently had extensive restoration and upgrading work completed to the ground floor function rooms and dining room, so has a very smart appearance. The staff that I met were all exceptionally polite and courteous (very rare in hotels nowadays). I had dinner (2 evenings), light buffet lunch (Sat only), breakfast (2 mornings). All the food was very good indeed, apart from a goat's cheese starter (it was runny, which I thought was unusual so did not eat it) at one dinner. At all meals there was a good selection to choose from. Bedrooms: 1. Check whether the ensuite bathroom has a bath and shower, or only a shower. Some of the bathrooms have a shower and do not have a bath. 2. Some bedrooms have step free access, some bedrooms do not have step free access, if this is important to you, ask before booking. 3. There is a lift, but access to some bedrooms still requires you to climb several flights of stairs! 4. The view from the 3rd floor front corner bedroom that I stayed in (2 nights) has a very good sea view. I paid a premium to stay in this bedroom, compared to other rooms at this hotel. The bedroom was large and excellent. There was no noise from the hotel function rooms. The bathroom was large and excellent (bath & shower, toilet, washbasin). However, the bedroom (on the third floor) was accessed (from the first floor) via several flights of stairs from the 1st floor, so very good exercise! I was able to use the lift to the first floor, then had to walk along the corridor, then use several flights of stairs to access the bedroom. 5. Ask for a recently upgraded bedroom & recently upgraded ensuite bathroom when booking, if this is important to you, but no doubt this will mean a higher cost. 6. The TV in the bedroom worked very well. Would I stay at this hotel again? Yes definitely.

We stayed at the hotel for a dance weekend. Our first room was 160 and it was like going in to 70's time warp complete with orange sink in the bathroom, anaglypta wallpaper, single glazed (cracked) windows. We asked for another room and got 152 which was bigger and better with double glazing and we jumped forward in time probably to the 1980's complete with badly worn carpet (with hole) and an antiquated shower mixer where you had to turn each tap to get the right temperature that took ages. Everywhere was showing real signs of age, even in the public areas. They also took the step of closing the bar by the dance floor which meant that everyone had to go to the main bar to get a drink. On the plus side the service in the hotel was very good as was the food. Best Western really need to invest some money in what was once and still could be a great hotel.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thanks for posting a review following your stay. I am sorry that there were problems with your bedroom and I am pleased we were able to allocate you a much larger room. Last winter we spent a lot refurbishing bedrooms and this will be the case this year. I wish Best Western would provide funds for refurbishment but as all the hotels are independently owned that is our responsibility! We normally only open our second bar when we have larger groups but we will discuss this with your organiser for next year. I am very pleased that you found the service and food were very good.

Excellent function again for 80 people. Silver service is rare to see these days. Excellent service with plenty of staff. High standard of food as well. Accommodation and breakfast were of the same standard.

"Excellent choice!"

05/11/2016

Stayed here for a long weekend - our first stay. I can only reiterate what other reviewers have said - traditional in the best sense - staff efficient and friendly, food first class - indeed as previously stated - poached eggs are a good test of any kitchen - and the ones served up here for breakfast were perfect. On our first evening there was a big function in the hotel - Cornish Drama Association - they were in the large dining room. We were in a smaller side room but in no way was the service inferior which does sometimes happen on these occasions. We will certainly stay again at this hotel

"Very pleasant hotel"

5
02/11/2016

We were at the Hotel Bristol for a function, and booked a room overnight. Everything about the stay was very pleasant - the staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was excellent - large and with a great view, the dinner at the function was first class - not something you can often say about mass catered dinners! The breakfast was equally excellent with without doubt the best poached egg I have ever had. We will definitely stay here again.

"Good sea front hotel"

01/11/2016

Good hotel excellent position overlooking the sea and Newquay. Easy walking distance from the town centre and amenities. Good clean room and very helpful staff. A large car park to the rear of hotel. Recommend for couples and families

"'Traditional' - in the best sense of the word"

5
31/10/2016

Stayed with my wife for 2 nights whilst attending a reunion in Newquay. The terms 'traditional' or 'old fashioned' are used in an almost derogatory way these days. The hotel Bristol is traditional in the very best sense; traditional values & levels of service. The room was nice with ample storage (lots of hangars in the wardrobe - thank you!), tea & coffee, a decent sized bathroom & a comfy double bed. The view across the bay to Newquay harbour was world class. The Staff throughout are knowledgeable, friendly & efficient. The restaurant serves tasty food for dinner, reasonably priced & accompanied by silver service (remember that?). Breakfast provides a small buffet for cereals, fruit, continental choices & juices, but cooked breakfasts are selected from an A la Carte menu & cooked to order - outstanding! Also, toast orders are taken & delivered in a toast rack; no more queueing at one of those bloody awful toasting machines waiting for your toast at the 3rd attempt. Excellent work. The hotel has a small pool, sauna & solarium if you feel that way inclined & is located on the cliff top (though also situated in town), perfect for walks with fantastic views. Stuart Young & his Team provide a traditional hotel with old fashioned values & it's all the better for it. Please keep up the good work!

"Work stay"

30/10/2016

Clean rooms, good beds and showers with plenty of water. Does the job for a base. The Hotel is quite dated and the breakfast was very expensive and disappointing so we only had it once and chose to eat elsewhere. Good location and parking. Pleasant and helpful staff. The rooms overlooking the car park and rear road suffer from construction traffic, that could change. Go for a sea view

"Good value"

25/10/2016

We stayed one night paying the function B&B rate, good value for money, meal at the function was good and plentiful as was breakfast, very welcoming receptionist, all other staff we came across were very good, would return.

"Cheers to Florals"

3
23/10/2016

After much debate, we decided we would settle for the Best Western. If you like to travel back in time to the early 80s, this is the place for you. The interior is very dated (cheers to florals!) Views of the car park were pretty great, seeings as there's a sign in your room to remind you to shut your windows as they aren't accountable for stolen goods. So this filled us with great pleasure being able to look out to say good night to our car. Breakfast was fine, however, we didn't return to our breakfast booking the following day. Despite the smell of old antique floral headboards and an extremely hot room, we would probably return, just for the banter of it.

"Wonderful Trip"

14/10/2016

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel we like the Turret Room and go for DBB, we stayed for 7 nights. Ok the rooms are a little dated but still very comfortable. The views are to die for. Evening meals were excellent and service very good, breakfasts equally as good. Restaurant staff very efficient and friendly as were all other staff in hotel. The only down side was we had to come home, but we shall be back.

"Short Holiday"

4
14/10/2016

Hotel is well located just a few minites walk from town centre. Staff all friendly and helpfull. Good food both breakfast and bar meals. The bedroom was spacious for a single room the only down side was lack of draw space and no wardrobe, good otherwise plenty of tea and coffee repleneshed daily. The room was always cleaned to a good standard. The hotel is not modern but has been maintained well. Would stay again next time I am in the area.

"Not a pleasant visit"

1
11/10/2016

Not one to write many reviews but following my stay here I felt it important to share our views. I stayed with my husband and other family members to attend a wedding in Newquay at the weekend. The hotel is extremely dated and the bathrooms are simply awful. The rooms smell fawsty and unpleasant and there is also a dreadful smell at the back of the building when you enter the hotel from the car park. It really was an unpleasant stay, uncomfortable beds, unpleasant smells, I could not wait to leave after a one night stay. The price for this accommodation is very high for not a lot. Not recommended and definitely would not visit again or recommend to others.

"Annual holiday "

Another amazing holiday down here! We visit this hotel every year and it is like home from home as we do come from Bristol. We know all the staff very well and it is like coming back to see our friends every year. Special thanks to Howard and Martina and the team for always making our stay so enjoyable. We will be returning next year!!

"Another fantastic stay"

5
02/10/2016

I like staying at the Hotel Bristol as they always offer fantastic service, great food and friendly staff. I wish I could say something bad so that they always have rooms available for just me, but I can't! Credit where credit is due as you would have to pay at least 2 to 3 times their rates to obtain a hotel in Newquay of their standard

"Excellent"

29/09/2016

A beautiful hotel with a real old world charm. Staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. Special mentions to the restaurant manager and waitresses for their friendly manner. Tara at reception for sorting out a small problem with our booking with efficiency and class and a huge mention to Luke in the bar, friendly knowledgeable a pleasure to talk to and someone who clearly loves his job. Whatever you are paying him please make it more! Thank you for a lovely stay.

"This is how hotels should be run"

26/09/2016

The Bristol is a short distance from the centre of Newquay overlooking one of the surfing beaches. We stayed on a room with breakfast basis, and were glad we did. The breakfasts are made to order (I hate the buffet style) in a lovely dining room, and were superb. The waiting staff are very attentive. Our room was on the third floor at the side of the hotel, but we could see down to one of the beaches and watch the surfers. The rooms are pleasant and spotlessly clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The lighting leaves something to be desired, as in the bathroom the light seemed to take ages to brighten- could be the modern bulbs; and the light by the desk didn't work at all. I was glad the shower attachment wasn't fixed, so I could take the handset to wash my hair without having to shower at the same time. All in all, it was a pleasant stay.

lovely hotel on sea front, had single room seemed to have been refurbished very comfortable with bath/shower lovely. Great swimming pool and a rather quirky but nice sauna, so able to de stress and relax. Had dinner in Bar which was rather nice, and real ale on! excellent service and even a meal deal! Breakfast if not included costs £14 which is a bit steep for what you get (main cooked breakfast brought to you 1 item egg bacon etc) bus service 56 operates from airport to front door and back but check timetable. or taxi costs £12 each way. also close to railway station. fantastic service from all staff who go out of their way to help.

20/09/2016

A big thank you to Ellie on reception and Ethan for going the extra mile to provide a good stay. Restaurant staff were brilliant too although the menu was odd -I chose plaice Asian style with rice but the plaice was v small and was then served roast potatoes and root vegetables! Room good plenty of room and a sea view

"Excellent Service and comfortable rooms"

20/09/2016

Stayed here for a week with the dogs. Had a single room which was a little on the small side, but was furnished to a high standard as I would say it has been refurbished very recently. From arrival to departure service was spot on whether reception, restaurant or house keeping. All staff were friendly and personable with nothing being too much trouble. The quality of the food was superb with a changing daily menu for evening meals with a very nice selection and always well cooked. Great cooked breakfast too. The sea front location offers a fabulous view over Tolcarne Beach and Newquay from the restaurant and rooms located on the front. I would certainly consider this hotels a a first choice for returning to Newquay.

"Excellent Holiday"

20/09/2016

My wife and I stayed on an 8-day extended DBB holiday in a Seaview Family Room. Yes there are a few minor issues but not sufficient to detract from the fact that our room was good, the staff were generally very good and the food was excellent. My wife is vegetarian and she was very pleasantly surprised to find the standard dinner menu offered a different choice for her each evening throughout our stay (plus 2 - 3 vegetarian starter options).

"excellent stay, brilliant staff and service, dog friendly"

19/09/2016

Lets get the not so good stuff out of the way.... The décor is of 70s style pretty much throughout the hotel and the rooms are tired and dilapidated, with cracks around fixtures and fittings and windows. The bathroom has 'basic' non-mixer style taps and the shower has average water pressure and variable temperature. The scaffolding around the rear of the hotel provides an interesting obstacle course from the rear car park. The bed didn't provide much support, if you are used to a firm matress you might struggle to get comfortable. There is a weird smell from the rear of the hotel, fortunately it isn't detectable from the room we were staying in. The good news.... Room was very spacious and had everything we could need, including dog bowl, dog towels and a dog bed for the dog to lie on during the day. We had room to fit the dog crate we had brought with us in the bathroom. Our dog is a Labrador, so has a large crate (42"). Location is brilliant. A stones throw from Tolcarne and Towan beaches, and very near to the park overlooking Lusty Glaze, and of course Lusty Glaze beach itself. You can also walk to surfers paradise, Fistral Beach via the harbour in 30 minutes (gentle pace). Car park to rear was busy, but there was always a place to park at the end of the day. Breakfast was excellent. There is a buffet of pastries and cereal and a waiter service for cooked breakfasts including smoked salmon, kipper and the 'full Cornish'. It is nice to sit down and have drinks and food brought to the table!! Staff were excellent and helped us with our bulky items on arriving and checking out of the hotel and also loved to meet our Labrador whenever we arrived back in the evening. I will definitely consider staying at the hotel Bristol again in the future as even with the downsides identified in this review, there is much more to a hotel than it's décor.

It was so re-freshend to stay in a Hotel like this. No Hyatt, Hilton etc modern Style House. Nice corners, Rooms for chilling, big Rooms with high ceiling, Breakfast with very elegant designed dinnerware. The Serviceteam is Cross helpful and supportive. Martina helps us a lot in very specific situations. Enjoy some Days away from this "normal" Hotels.

"Excellent Break"

13/09/2016

My wife and spent a long weekend at this hotel and found it an excellent location with walking distance into Newquay itself. The staff were very accommodating and friendly/ helpful to a fault! The hotel itself is well maintained although slightly dated but so are most of the hotels that I have stayed in at Newquay. Cleanliness was superb, rooms were always clean and so were the main areas. Breakfast was first class.

"Friendly service"

3
12/09/2016

My partner and I had a flying visit to Cornwall last week and booked The Bristol as it was the only dog friendly hotel that had any rooms left. Yes, the decor is tired and in desperate need of updating and modernising. However, our room was spotlessly clean and the customer service was fantastic. From the friendly welcome, to the supply of an iPhone charger, the dog bed, towel and bowl that was waiting in our room and the excellent, warm service delivered by the barman at the very end of his shift, the level of service given by everyone we came across was unsurpassable. I run customer service training and will use my experience here as examples in how it should be done.

"Stuck in a timewarp"

11/09/2016

It's a great location overlooking Tolcarne Beach and just a short walk uphill from the station. Newquay is also extremely convenient as a base for touring the area because apart from some excellent beaches for surfing as well as some exquisite beachside restaurants Newquay as a town has little to commend it having perhaps the most down-at-heel ambience of virtually any UK seaside resort we've ever visited. The Best Western boasts some famous visitors in its heyday, but that was probably well over half a century ago. Today it feels like a bastion of the 1950s with barely a picture on the walls of corridors all covered in faded white wallpaper. Our room was spacious, but had furniture which might not have been out of place in my grandmother's attic and beds with old-fashioned wooden backboards and mattresses too hand to guarantee a good night's sleep. Breakfast is down a flight of steps into what looks like a once-grand ballroom. One is welcomed by an affable well-rounded manager whose role were a sitcom ever to be based on this hotel would have to be played by Peter Kay. Whilst there were no complaints about the breakfast itself, save that they ran out of croissants one morning, but then there was nothing particularly special about it either. The full Cornish featured items slightly redolent of the cooking oil in which they had been cooked. A kipper I had one morning was small and filleted as opposed to the larger bony fresher variety I'd experienced in the hotel we'd left at Exeter. But that was four star, this is three, and you get what you pay for. This is a grand building which could be spectacular if brought up to date. The staff are all welcoming, helpful and friendly.

"Perfect Getaway"

11/09/2016

Me and my boyfriend have just got home from a wonderful weekend in Newquay. The best western had wonderful, helpful, friendly staff who made our stay an absolute delight. We stayed in the family Seaview suite which had absolutely stunning views and the room was clean and spacious. Only a short walk to the town but far enough away that it's quiet in the night. Thank you for making our first weekend away together so wonderful! We'll definitely be back

"Highly disappointed"

10/09/2016

I spent a night with my partner at the BW Newquay, we've booked a double room but were placed in a double twin. Check in was done smoothly by a friendly woman. We were greeted by an outdated room completed by that old smell too, horrible mattress that felt like we were somewhere in between open waters and bouncy castle and it became so unbearable that eventually we slept in separate beds (without much rest eitherway), broken shower which had the tap running at all times even though it was set only to shower and water temperature fluctuated dangerously. Breakfast was good in quality and brought in a timely matter, but the restaurant is far from being modern as well, fitting with the rest of the hotel (imagine grandma's floral window curtains). All in all, we figured that the only reason this hotel is rated 3 stars is because of the location, as it would be a 2 stars at best.

"Excellent Hotel"

5
06/09/2016

The hotel is stunning with lots of period features. The staff are brilliant and nothing seams like it is too much effort for them. Our room was light and very clean and the room was cleaned with fresh towels daily. The location is also excellent, opposite the beach what more could you possibly need.

"Great hotel"

05/09/2016

All staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food was excellent as was the dining room staff, no request was a problem. We had a large room with a sea view which was cleaned to a high standard every day.I left a vital piece of my breathing machine at home and the lady on reception went out of her way to find a replacement till I could get out and buy one. All in all a very enjoyable week.It is also within walking distance of the town so a nice leisurely stroll after your meal is a must The bar staff are also very knowledgable about wines and cocktails so it's nice to try different drinks if you wish.We would certainly use this hotel again if we were in the area.Thankyou all for a very pleasing weeks holiday.

"Perfect mini break away."

04/09/2016

We had a 2nd floor sea view room and stayed 4 nights and woke to the sound of the seagulls and the sea. Perfect location for a short walk to town and some excellent seafood restaurants. Tolcarne beach is a stones throw away with the marvellous Beaches restaurant for lunches or evening meal. Perfect for bodyboarding, surfing or long walks along the cliff paths. The Bristol hotel served an excellent selection for breakfast with faultless service. If you booked breakfast for your stay then you received 15% off, which was more convenient than finding somewhere to eat in town when most places don't open until 10.00 am. Our room was large and very comfortable with tea making facilities and biscuits every day. The bathroom had a bath/shower and hot water whenever needed and was made up every day. Good value for money stay and will definitely return.

Hotel very much as described, Rooms cleaned & tidied to a good standard every day view from room149 spectacular to say the least. Didn't have a meal there so cannot comment stayed for three nights wife & I found the staff extremely efficient with very good customer relations attitude. One negative apart from a solo pianist playing in the background there is no entertainment. My wife & I were the only couple sat in the bar didn't stay long .

28/08/2016

This hotel looks the part in the reception rooms, but the bedrooms are far from comfortable. There is barley enough light in the room to light up the entrance, mirror, wardrobe and case bench, the TV is so small you have to sit right in front of it to watch it, the windows were so thick with grim the "view" was blurred. The one bed was hard and uncomfortable and the other rocked and swayed as you moved. Towels were old, hard and frayed. The lift is so small I could barely fit in it with my husband and child in his stroller. ( we are not large people) It is a very old building so we can forgive the midnight and 3am toilet flusher upstair for the rattling and screeching pipes. We can also forgive the quirky layers of stairs within the passageways (not great if you are pushing a stroller or have heavy luggage to carry), but we cannot believe how neglected this place feels and it shows in the room folder which is out of date (staff don't even know what is in them either) the Best Western magazine that is also out of date, the cracks in the walls and peeling paint. The staff seem sweet and helpful but they will not budge on their 3pm check in no matter how early you arrive, how tired you are, have small children or only staying the one night. Our stay at the Premier Inn in Plymouth was better quality for money and a much more pleasant stay. We discovered later that day that The Best Western St Austell seems the better choice in many regards. ( on the beach side of the road, family friendly, food delicious and looked well cared for)

The Hotel Bristol is like walking back in time. The rooms may be a bit dated but they are roomy and comfortable. The Service here is outstanding. The staff do everything they can to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. The restaurant to is exceptionally good with a menu change daily to keep you interested. Thoroughly recommend this hotel for Couples or for families

"Old style coastal resort hotel, looking rather tired and in need of some basic refurb in the common areas"

25/08/2016

Newquay looks like a good spot for the surfers but the resort "experience" as a whole was disappointing. Our chosen hotel provided a comfortable family room with a decent bathroom and thankfully, a small lift up to the third floor but it was all very dated. The staff were friendly, especially the maître de at breakfast time but it all really felt like stepping back into a time warp. Resort hotels need to provide a really good experience these days - Newquay generally failed to deliver.

"Really unexpected. as just turned up."

My daughter and myself just took a chance and turned up, having just decided to stay for the night. As we were intending to travel around. But as we checked in, we were more than happy with the staff and service. In fact we stayed three nights, but didnt want to leave. I do not want to praise it, as i am afraid everyone will want to stay, then I will have to find somewhere else,(guess i am being selfish). But really have fallen in love with the Hotel and the friendly, expert staff. Room and Pool are good,as to is the food. Will try and go back soon. Excellent. Great Hospitality, and ideal as a base to see other towns.Thankyou to all your staff.

Sea view family room is nice, clean and spacious, only the bathroom needs a little updating! Friendly and helpful staff! Lovely breakfast and plenty of choices! Car parking available behind the hotel, amusement arcade, supermarket and restaurants nearby, very convenient!

"Short stay - brilliant hospitality"

21/08/2016

We sady had only a 2 night stay but wonderful restaurant, warm hospitality, friendliness and quiet efficiency of all the team at the hotel made it the highlight of our tour. Mr Young himself went to the trouble of checking whether the fire at St Erth had affected our planned route for the day.

We have travelled to Newquay regularly over the last 38 years and have always been tempted with the Hotel Bristol and especially the Turret Room. This year we booked this room and our expectations were exceeded never mind met. The room has a fabulous view both towards Newquay town centre and down the coast towards Porth, and infront a splendid view of Tolcarne Beach. The room itself was excellently set out and totally comfortable. We booked only breakfast so can only comment on this meal but for the 7 days we were there everything was top class and nothing was too much trouble. As we are talking top class we must include the staff behind reception, those in the dining room and also the cleaning staff who kept the room spotless.

14/08/2016

We have just returned from yet another first class holiday at the hotel bristol, this was our third visit to the hotel, and it's standards stay as high and unaltered, as our previous visits,it is a traditional hotel with first class dining, helpful and very pleasant staff, nothing is too much trouble for them,we were a party of 4 adults and 2 children, our rooms were large and airy with lovely sea views, our sons room had adjoining room for the 2 children, and was very spacious, It is also perfectly situated just across the road from the lovely tolcarn beach, the hotel also has a large car park, This is all together an excellent hotel,we would not stay anywhere else whilst visiting newquay We will return!!!!

"good hotel, poor quality of bed"

09/08/2016

The quality of mattress was very poor. Not acceptable for a three stars hotel. The rooms are clean. and the location is fantastic. However, the see view rooms are very noisy at night because they face a busy road.

Second visit for us, love the location, the big family rooms, relaxed atmosphere and the best thing of all Tolcarne beach. We ate at The Breaks and it is amazing! Gorgeous food and location! We had lovely breakfast and evening meal too. Can t wait to return next year!

"Fab dinner!!"

01/08/2016

Didn't stay here but wished we had! Walked in and asked if they could fit us in for dinner, which they did with no fuss! Went for a drink in the bar and received a warm welcome and a plate of snacks to go with our drinks together with a menu...went into the restaurant which was beautifully laid out and plenty of staff so no long waiting. All servers very friendly but professional and we chose to have two courses the baked cod and the lamb cassoulet followed by cheese board and rhubarb fool. Generous portions and all beautifully served. After dinner we sat in the lounge where there was ample tea and coffee you could help yourself to. Two courses with wine for two was under £60 absolute bargain, well done Hotel Bristol!!!

"Lovely service and great location"

31/07/2016

This was our first visit to this hotel. It is well situated on the edge of town with a good car park behind the hotel. There is a beach and cliff walk about 2 minutes away across the road and plenty of restaurants starting a five minute walk away. Check in was pleasant and our rooms were very nice, with lovely views of the sunset! The pool looked lovely but we didn't use it this time. We had plenty of space in the rooom to set up a laptop to work at and separate chairs to relax on. Other than the noise of plumbing the room was pretty quiet. Breakfast was lovely with a nice selection of cooked to order options and again, excellent service. A really pleasant stay, enhanced by the helpful and friendly staff.

29/07/2016

I stay at the Bristol fairly frequently on business and have always found the staff friendly and welcoming. This week was no exception and I also enjoyed one of the recently refurbished rooms. But a special mention goes to Christine on reception who recognised that the company booking had gone awry and gave me time and assistance to sort it. Thanks again Christine. See you all soon.

"Another great holiday at Hotel Bristol"

28/07/2016

Just returned from a short holiday at Hotel Bristol, our second visit. Again impressed with the excellent staff who cannot do enough for you. Service is very impressive. Room with sea view was lovely and spotlessly clean. Food is wonderful, breakfast includes everything you would want and dinner in the restaurant was superb. We enjoyed the use of the indoor pool and games room. Charming hotel with great service. Perfect location and views. We will definitely return.

Stayed here for work for 5 nights. Room was big and the bed was comfy. My only niggles was that the taps wernt labeled which one was hot which one was cold so ended up brushing my teeth with a mouthful of hot water! Also the towel rail which says is heated I searched high and low and could not figure how on earth to turn it on. Had great nights sleep the hotel was very quiet at night no noise atall. The hotel does seem abit dated though definatly not modern, the staff all very friendly and made me feel welcoming. I don't think I would return as I felt it all to be a bit posh for me the menu expensive with no simple dishes.

"Dogs welcome at this hotel."

20/07/2016

We booked this hotel as we needed somewhere that was happy to take a dog. The hotel was easy to find and has its own car park. The building is a traditional building - so large windows, carpets, large bedrooms and bathrooms. The hotel was clean but various areas need updating - we had a yellow bathroom suite and a shower curtain. The plus point was the bathroom was a large room, our bedroom was also large which was great with a dog and a toddler. Breakfast was adequate. I think the reception staff and some of the waiting staff would benefit by going on a Customer Care Course as they weren't overly friendly at the start. In short I would use this hotel again as it was clean, large rooms, dog friendly and easily accessible.

"Awful!! "

10/07/2016

This is NOT a good value for money hotel!! Especially if you book with another agent rather than with the hotel direct.... You get the worse rooms!! (dated furniture, carpet, bathroom and the shower was that cheap and old it didn't work properly) The manager more or less told us this when we asked to be moved to a more "modern" room shortly after we arrived. Rude and obnoxious doesn't cover it. Apparently it didn't "benefit" the hotel to move us?! Even a couple of the locals in the pub down the road told us she was reknown for her rudeness. Can't comment on the food or drink because we chose not to spend any money in there after our first impression of the management..... That was also of no "benefit" to the hotel. Good business sense or no common sense? Will definitely NOT be returning!!!

"This is one Hotel to avoid!"

I am well aware that having looked at other reviews the MD is very defensive in the responses given where there is honest but negative feedback. I booked this through Expedia and paid £120 per night without breakfast. We were given a room (photographs attached) which was substandard and certainly not what I would expect at £120 per night or even a three star hotel. I stay in many hotels through work and leisure and this, without doubt was the worse ever. Please let me clear, I am not critical of any staff as they were very nice people. I will make one exception, the duty manager. I attended reception within minutes of entering our room. We were given a family room (there were only two of us) and the view was terrible. I spoke to a receptionist who went to get the manager. I was told that that was what I had booked and therefore there was nothing which could be done. I was also told that I had paid more for a family room, which I clearly did not want. I suggested to the manager that we could do a deal on breakfast to be told 'how does that benefit the hotel' I could not believe I was hearing such a flippant , unprofessional response. This spoke volumes of their commitment to customer service and so, I decided to leave it there! I then cancelled plans to eat at the hotel that night and did not use any of their facilities. Very short sighted and clearly their loss financially! I have attached photographs of the view and the bathroom which was a disgrace. The ceiling paper secured with drawing pins and the shower outdated and of no practical use whatsoever. The mixer taps were useless and the water flow a trickle. All in all, one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. You booked a standard family room online and that was the room type we allocated. On arrival you requested a double room as you did not want the family room and at no time did you mention that the room was as you described in your review. My colleague politely informed you that we had no double rooms available. At that point you said we should give you free breakfast because we had no double rooms. Your description of my colleague is the complete opposite of comments posted on this site and others. She always goes the extra mile to help our guests. I called and left a message on your mobile asking you to contact me but over 24 hours later I have had no reply. I would have explained to you that had you informed us of the problems you described in your review we would have made every effort to find a solution.

"Very good hotel in ideal location"

04/07/2016

We had a standard twin-room. This was fine for us both, with a spacious en-suite. The hallways and stairs were all well maintained and kept clean. The lift was fine for two people and luggage. The restaurant was spacious and had large windows, with views over Tolcarne Beach. The staff in reception and restaurant were most pleasant and helpful. We always enjoyed a good breakfast, which was cooked to order. There was also Continental available, as well.Re-location: hotel is above Tolcarne Beach / Bay and on edge of town( 5 minutes walk away). This suited us perfectly. We were non-car drivers and all buses out of town go past the hotel. The bus-stop is opposite. We enjoy walking and you can go from the hotel, along the cliffs to Porth and Watergate Bay.

"Very friendly personnel!"

4
27/06/2016

A warm welcome awaits you at the hotel! A very friendly personnel makes the stay a pleasant experience!! A good choice between a traditional English breakfast and a Continental one makes the day go better and the view of the sea nearby is an added extra!!

"Wonderful hotel"

26/06/2016

This was not our original hotel on our recent visit to newquay. We turned up and asked if they had any vacancies for a disabled person. The front of house staff could not have been more helpful. They offered us a sea view room on the first floor and went our of their way to make our stay welcoming. All throughout our stay they were very helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel

"Hotel Bristol - Excellent position"

22/06/2016

Hotel Bristol is located on the outskirts of Newquay with outstanding views across the bay from Tolcarne Beach - beautiful with the greensward on the cliffs in the foreground. From the moment one makes a reservation to the time one leaves the friendly, efficient service from all members of Staff is unequalled! My wife and I have stayed at Hotel Bristol on numerous occasions since the late '90's. More recently our friends have joined us on five day Leisure Breaks - often taken in June and late September. The Sea-view Rooms are comfortable, well-equipped, as one would expect from a Best Western and the views are wonderful - gazing out to sea and watching surfers skilfully negotiate the rolling waves, Nothing is too much trouble for the Staff with those in the Restaurant especially friendly and welcoming! One has privacy, being comfortable seated at tables and the service is exceptional. The menu changes daily with a wide choice for all tastes - delightfully presented. There is a large, tarmac surfaced Car Park at the rear of the hotel with plenty of spaces for visitors. Being family owned, one has the personal touch - meeting Mr & Mrs Young, who frequently dine with hotel guests in the evening. Clearly a top grade hotel – a and we look forward to our next Leisure Break in the autumn. Bill & Mary

"Great Location"

19/06/2016

The Bristol offers good accommodation in a SUPERB location, the Staff at ALL levels are well presented and make every effort to ensure your stay is as good as it can be. We stayed for 4 days and had no issues with the car parking the lift was very handy after a long day enjoying the beach across the road or a walk to Fistral beach to watch the surfers. REALLY enjoyed the stay thank you to the Bristol Team

"'BEST' WESTERN FOR A REASON"

17/06/2016

This beautiful old hotel in the quiet seaside town of Newquay, served us well. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and although the rooms looked a little tired, given that it is an old hotel, were perfectly comfortable and spacious. The pool and other facilities came as a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent, and served fresh and hot. The breakfasts were enormous. Overall, I think we chose an excellent hotel to holiday in, and we would like to thank everyone concerned.

"Costa del Newquay"

15/06/2016

Just had a few glorious days staying at he Bristol Hotel. A bit old fashioned but excellent service, food and wine made it very worth while and great value. Of course - good weather made swimming in the sea superb, followed by a drink watching the sundown. Special thanks to the sommelier.

"Warning this hotel is nothing like how it is advertised online!!!!"

2
15/06/2016

We booked this hotel in Newquay for a 4 night stay. On arrival we were surprised how old it looked compared to their website. We arrived early, so we parked up and went into Newquay. The location of this hotel is really good looking over tolcarne beach. When we returned we were given a room and we had booked a seaview as we were so close to the beach. Well we were so shocked, the room was so dated. It was like walking into something from the seventies. the decor was appalling, chip board bland wall paper all over, horrible flowery curtains that looked like they needed a wash, and the view was blocked by scaffolding!!!!! The bathroom looked awful and dirty and the lighting was poor. Straight away we went down to reception and said this is not what we have booked. Do you have any other rooms? They offered us two others to look at, but these were not the rooms they were advertising on their website. The ones that had been updated already had guests. We went back to reception and we said we are not sure about staying here. The nice receptionist said she would hold our room if we wanted to cancel and stay elsewhere. So after driving 3 hrs and 200 miles we tried to phone a few places to get somewhere else but last minute in Newquay the other places on offer were expensive or fully booked. So we stayed at this hotel for 1 night and came home the next day. Our 4 night break away ruined. Wasted money on petrol. And an expensive night at £159, when the standard of this place is not of an hotel, more like a 3 star b&b and should be no more than £50 a night. I understand the hotel is going through a period of updating there rooms, but they really should not advertise this hotel until the upgrades have been done. The staff were lovely and I felt sorry for them, but they did not seem shocked by our comments, I have a feeling they have heard it all before.

"Charming, clean and old fashioned values"

4
14/06/2016

Charming, clean and old fashioned values - I repeat this because there is nothing wrong with a place having old fashioned decor and design, infact its lovely to see a place that has character, history and is different to the standard boring fare of modern day design in hotels, where you could actually be anywhere in the world. So I enjoyed very much my stay at the Bristol - I had a sea view room, huge bed, everywhere was clean and tidy, reception staff attentive and efficient. And the food, including breakfast and evening meal was great - the service to table with hot food and drinks was faultless. Excellent value.

"Stuck in the 1980's"

13/06/2016

Needs a lot of improvement to bring it up to date. Had to stay here due to a business trip. It would not be a hotel of choice. It needs to move on. Lots of improvements required. I would not mind if it was priced fairly to match the standards provided. Yes good setting. I imagine it was well presented;around 30 years ago when it was last decorated. Evidently, no money has not been spent on it ever since. Prices need to be more budget, as it is just not worth the money they expect you to pay.

"Brilliant, despite first impressions"

4
13/06/2016

My first impression of the Best Western Bristol Hotel in Newquay was of faded glory. Nothing wrong with it, but just a little bit, well, tired. HOWEVER, the Staff were unfailingly delightful! They made it a pleasure to stay here, and I would recommend it. Lovely sea view, nice room, residents' sitting rooms etc. The evening meals in the restaurant seemed quite expensive, but there was a good range of Bar Food at much lower prices. Resident's Parking at the rear of the hotel, although a lot of drivers without Blue Badges used the few Disabled bays. Grrr! My only complaint would be that, in 2016, ALL hotels should have at least 5' beds!

"Outstanding location, value and service"

5
04/06/2016

Hotel Bristol overlooks the Tolcarne Beach and is just a few hundred yards from the other beaches, town and harbour. Book a room with a sea view if you can because it makes you feel good every time you look out of the window. The food is good with at least four choices for the evening meal and is really good value if booked as part of a package. There is also a delightful bar for a pre-dinner drink. The staff are exceptional and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. My wife requires a gluten free diet which they accommodated without difficulty.

"Great Staff "

01/06/2016

Hotel right next to beach just across road . The staff here were really helpful as one of our party needed to go to A&E printed off maps and told us how to get there asked how she was getting on when we got back and lent her a walking stick for duration of stay . Bar staff really friendly and have a wealth of knowledge of hotel and area . Our room was over looking the beach with excellent views hotel full of period Art Deco features that have not been lost in recent upgrades . Sit down breakfast order what you want didn't have dinner so can't comment . Small swimming pool at back good for a nice swim if to cold for a dip . Would definitely come back

"Lovely"

31/05/2016

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. We had a sea view room which was very spacious although the bathroom was a little dated ( the suite was yellow!). The maid came in everyday and everywhere was spotless. The dining area is light and airy and you are shown to your table and the full English breakfast was delicious. The location is perfect as only a few minutes walk into the main town with plenty of shops and pubs etc. Would definitely stay here again.

"Lovely and peaceful "

4
30/05/2016

A lovely old style hotel. We did find the dunning prices were a little steep but the bar prices were more affordable. There is a lovely sauna and pool. The bar man Luke is a diamond, so kind and friendly and nothing is to much trouble for him!

"Great staff"

4
27/05/2016

Although this hotel is quite old and looks a bit tired in parts, our stay was made memorable by the helpfulness of the staff. Our room was comfortable tho I do wish hotels would install 5 foot beds as standard these days. We had a lovely sea view as requested. Luke the bar man was helpful and friendly beyond expectations, he was a delight. Felt that the hotel residents were a bit 'pushed out' when a wedding was held in the hotel and our accompanying friends did find their room quite noisy until midnight. The staff did offer to change their room but this did feel like a lot of effort for one night. Would certainly stay here again though if in the area. Overall it was a very pleasant experience.

"The staff at the hotel gave fantastic service"

4
19/05/2016

The staff at the hotel gave fantastic service. We were a party of golfers and several made comments on how welcoming the staff had been and what wonderful service they have given. Great location close to the town but not to close. Great views and walks directly outside the hotel. The hotel has charm and character in line with its age.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thanks for posting a review about your stay. We are pleased you had an enjoyable stay with us for your golfing break.

"Excellent Hotel"

17/05/2016

This is a lovely traditional English hotel. White tablecloths at breakfast. The staff are excellent and really do want you to enjoy your stay; they work as a team: restaurant, housekeeping, bar, reception and the ever-cheerful maintenance man. Nice pool. If you like your hotels all plate glass and shiny chrome; if you like nightclubs and rowdy bars with nightly entertainment this probably isn't the place for you. But if you like good food, good service, tranquillity and just a nice place to be, the Bristol is just right.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to welcome you back soon.

"Lovely Weekend Break"

12/05/2016

Myself and my boyfriend stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Bristol and had a lovely stay, the room was clean and comfortable and had a great view of the sea, really good shower and nice selection of tea/coffee. The restaurant is really nice and the food and service was amazing. All the staff we encountered were super friendly and helpful - Christine at reception was a stand out as were the gents on the bar during our stay (I'm really sorry I can't remember your names) they gave us great dinner recommendations and Christine helped us with bookings and cabs. We had a lovely time, thanks so much (from Chloe and Thomas)

"Lovely stay"

06/05/2016

We stayed as a group for a charity walk and found the staff there extremely helpful and kind. The hotel was in the process of being refurbished but mostly it was great. My room was a little hot but that could be remedied by turning off the heated towel rail. The best part though was the food, we ate there both nights and the menus were excellent. The staff were also really kind and attentive.

"Dirty Horrible, avoid like the plaque"

1
05/05/2016

Avoid this hotel like the plaque, hairs all over the bed, horrible moody staff, food disgusting, dated like something from a scene from 1837, toilets on first floor had not been cleaned for a year at least, smell was disgusting, I would rather sleep on the beach in January than stay here, do not ever go to this hotel ever you will regret it, if you have booked already then cancel as fast as you can.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Your review has shocked me as it is in complete contrast to other recent reviews that we have received. Obviously it would assist us if you could provide your room number and date of stay in order for us to remedy matters appropriately.

"Short family break"

5
02/05/2016

i booked this at the last minute, Whilst the hotel is rated only as 3 star it probably warrants a better rating and when full refurbished it may get that. From checking in to checking out the staff are excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile and happy to help attitude. Swimming pool ia a plus and we used it a lot. Restaurant serves good food with excellent service. Luke who served drinks was excellent. Rooms are large, maybe a little dated, they are clean and the sea view was excellent. Bar is good prices are hotel average, service excellent. The Hotel is under going a refurbishment, it did not effect our stay. Will book this hotel again the next time we travel to Newquay.

"Excellent service"

25/04/2016

I was here for a wedding. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was outstanding. I particuarly enjoyed the mini fish and chips in the evening. I loved the hall for the evening. Large venue where you could sit and get away from the noise if you wanted and still all be together. i would definately recommend this hotel for a wedding reception,

"Afternoon Tea"

5
24/04/2016

We had booked afternoon tea for our arrival in Newquay as we were staying just down the road. On our arrival we were greeted by a very friendly lady. We had booked for 5pm but arrived early and our table was already set up for us. They knew we were bringing our baby and lots of thought went in to this from them. We had a highchair already set up along with a child's place setting all with suitable tableware. The afternoon tea was great and for a good price. All tasted very fresh.

"A Great Short Break."

22/04/2016

Yet again we've just had a wonderful 3 night stay at the Bristol. The staff and food are great and even though they are upgrading some of the rooms there is no inconvenience. We will be returning later in the year to have the whole experience over again.

Was there several times, and always love to go back, stuff is very friendly and helpful ! Food is amazing and the nice stuff and silver service makes it perfect ! Rooms are nice and proper. View over Newquay amazing and the sunsets you can see , unforgettable!!

"Comfort, Relaxation and Good Food"

5
20/04/2016

The hotel Bristol at Newquay offers some of the highest standards to be found in this north Cornish seaside resort. Located at Narrowcliffe on the edge of the town the hotel Bristol offers relaxation, comfortable en suite bedrooms and excellent food in a superb dining room. Staff are friendly and efficientfrom Reception to bar to dining room, The hotel has been in the same family for 90 years and many guests return time and time again which speaks volumes for the popularity of the hotel.

"Good friendly hotel"

20/04/2016

Some rooms have been refurbed whilst others look tired. Bathrooms clean but could be updated. Excellent staff. Very good food, plenty to choose from. Good car parking at rear of hotel. Lovely beaches within walking distance. Indoor pool needs massive refurbishment.

"Remarkable service"

4
19/04/2016

The hotel was what you would expect for its age, but nicely looked after, Comfortable seats in the common areas as well. But the service at table was amazing. We had a round table with a group of 10. We all chose differently from the menu. The meat/fish/etc came out with very little delay - hot on hot plates - and the whole table was served, including the veg silver service within one minute. Now if they can do it why can't anyone else? This was the first and only time I've seen it done like this.

"Great South West Base"

4
18/04/2016

Excellent hotel (a little dated but refurbishment works on the way) Staff are really helpful and informative. I have used this hotel for both business accommodation and also for family accommodation, it is an excellent central point from which to explore the south west areas of interest. The hotel is steeped with history with an overview available to digest. The food and service in the hotel is also excellent. Thanks for looking after both me and my family.

"Best In The West"

07/04/2016

I just knew this was going to be a great experience from the moment I entered through the back door. But it wasn't great - it was superb! The staff were unfailingly helpful, cheerful and willing, and I really believe that nothing would have been too much trouble. My room was supremely comfortable and well appointed, and yes, the bathroom could have done with a little TLC especially in the tap department, and yes, I too had to play the shower game - but it was fun and I like a bit of a challenge now and then! Overall, I don't think I've ever had a more comfortable stay. Hey I had real sash windows that really opened! The food was simply sublime -there is no other way to put it. Tastes, flavours and textures from superlative quality ingredients carefully and exquisitely prepared. And all served with care and a willing smile. A special mention due for Luke, who patiently assisted me with a choice of wine for my dinner which resulted in the mutually beneficial sale of two bottles from their bin end sale - well done son! Would I choose to stay here if my business wasn't paying for me to? You bet I would! And I would heartily recommend it for you too if you need to stay in the area of Newquay. This is a hotel with style and traditional values, and yes it is a little more expensive than your Jurys, Copthornes and better 3 star locals, but only a little more expensive. And what price quality?

"Lovely staff!!"

Stayed here whilst also using the conference facilities. Yes the hotel is a little tired and fittings dated but they are currently doing refurbishments (quietly and unobtrusively). Room was large, clean and with a comfortable bed so slept well. Food in the dining room was good. Breakfast very good. Staff were all friendly and helpful. View of the sea from the bedroom and dining room was great. Would stay again if needed to be in Newquay.

"Great staff, average room"

Really friendly receptionist and a great breakfast. But the room was average. The shower was either boiling or freezing and I gave up when the shower head fell off the wall! (Broken bracket) The bed was clean but the decor a little dated. The bar area is large but again a little dated. Reduced Winter price seems about right

My husband had a last minute work commitment so we had trouble finding a room and this hotel had availability. We have stayed in Best Westerns abroad and they've been excellent. I was a little anxious due to the mixed reviews. The building has been added to over the years and was not purpose built and this shows with the many narrow corridors and strange room numbering! My first thoughts were 'they need the hotel inspector here to work a miracle'. It is apparently being refurbished, although I could not see signs of this. Our room was functional and very clean, although dated. The hotel definitely has an old fashioned charm that grows on you. The staff are amazing and are so courteous and helpful. We had a cooked breakfast, which was excellent, and sat at a table looking out onto the cliffs and sea. It was good value for money, a little shabby, only 10 minutes walk into the town centre and very near the beach. I'd stay again, but only if I couldn't find something a little more luxurious and streamlined.

"February break"

25/02/2016

My partner and I plus his parents have visited the hotel in January or February for several years. We are always greeted on arrival as they remember us and ALL the staff are very friendly and helpful. We have stayed in several rooms but my favourite was the Turret room but they have always accommodated us with a sea view rooms on all our visits. Although the hotel is beginning to look 'dated' it is always warm, comfortable and very clean.

"Perfect Family Break"

24/02/2016

We stayed at the Hotel Bristol with our 2 young children for 3 nights, we had a large family room with a sea view. The hotel was beautiful and very child friendly, the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful, the food was delicious. The hotel is in a fantastic location opposite the beach and a short walk into the centre. We would highly recommended and would defiantly stay again.

"Very Comfortable stay"

24/02/2016

We have just returned from 4days at the hotel and was thoroughly satisfied with the warm friendly service we received. Yes the rooms are dated, but very spacious, clean and our room was of a very good size, l wouldn't hesitate in visiting the hotel again

"Short break"

23/02/2016

We have stayed at this hotel on many occasions. The staff are always polite, cheerful and willing to help. On this visit we were given our room. We unpacked and went for a walk. On our return the receptionist asked if she could move our room. Her reason was that she noticed that we were not part of a very large black tie event. Our room was above the ballroom and she was concerned we would be kept awake. We were given the best room in the house! Stay here, you won't be disappointed.

"Perfect Couple of days"

13/02/2016

If you want a couple of days away to relax and recharge the batteries then the Hotel Bristol in Newquay is just perfect. Its a family hotel and you are greeted at Reception with a welcoming smile and efficient service. The rooms are lovely and clean with comfortable beds and you even get biscuits with the tea and coffee. Add to that views from the windows over the green Barrowfields and the beautiful Tolcarne beach. There is everything you could want on the breakfast menu and you can either eat in the restaurant in the evening or more leisurely in the bar. It's an easy walk into Newquay and with all the beautiful sandy beaches you'll have a job to choose the best one. Altogether a perfect couple of days and highly recommend a visit.

We stayed at the Hotel Bristol following a Black Tie Dinner Event. The hotel was great value for money, with a nice spacious room and large bathroom. The facilities were great with old traditional service values thrown in.

The Best Western Hotel Bristol on arrival given room key made our way through freezing corridors to our room only to find a dank , dated room stuck in the 70s with wood chip wallpaper 1 power point a small tv and inadequate lighting and heating. We cranked up the heating but it took the entire weekend to get the room bearable. Then to top it all off a function on the Saturday evening which is when we found out we were on top of this disco and were bombarded with noise until 1.00 a.m. when we complained we were told there were no other rooms available, although the guest of the function who stayed had rooms away at the other end of the hotel ?. A local told us that the hotel survive on functions and had a bad reputation for guests who stayed which was exactly what we found with extortionate prices for food dinner 1 course pork or chicken roast and 3 veg £20 whilst no selection on 1st breakfast when in the small dining room and a choice on next day when in large dining room, then to cap it all they tried to charge me for the inclusive breakfast. In the potted history of the hotel they are proud of the fact that the hotel has been owned by the same family for 80 plus years which is probable when it was last decorated and they received the 3 star rating which has never been challenged since. The staff are lovely but do not stay here you would be better off picking a local b&b it is sure to have better facilities, food, comfort and décor, or any of the budget hotels who ffer better value and comfort rather than book in RUN FOR THE HILLS.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
On reading your review my heart sank. How could we make it any worse? It was obviously human error on our part to allocate your room near that function room for which I am very sorry. It didn't help that we have a number of rooms out of service due to our refurbishment. I'm also disapointed that the room was not warm enough for you. We have recently installed a new boiler which other guests have commented does make the hotel much warmer. I wish you had mentioned this during your stay when my team would have taken action to remedy matters. No hotelier wants any guest to have a bad stay and I urge all readers of this site not to suffer in silence when things aren't right - tell someone immediately. I deliberately put my mobile number on our bedroom comment form so guests can call me. I will respond more fully to your comments by post.

"dated, tired , depressing , in desperate need of updating"

29/01/2016

The hotel is very dated and tired. Considering its a best Western hotel I was very disappointed upon arrival. The rooms decor is like stepping back in time to the 1960s. Some serious funds needs to be considered to update the whole hotel. The location is very good being situated on the seafront. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. However, I checked out within 10 minutes and relocated to another hotel as there was no way on earth is could spend the night..I would like to mention I was not charged which I would imagine would not be the case at other hotels.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
It is disappointing to learn that you did not like the room you were allocated. I am having difficulty in agreeing with your description of the decor. The furniture is solid wood from a reputable hotel manufacturer and this design is still one of their available ranges. I'm sorry you also did not notice the new bed and other recently purchased fittings. It is also a pity you did not accept the offer of viewing alternative rooms to find one to your liking. There is always an opportunity to spend more and I am pleased to say that by Easter we hope to have completed the refurbishment of 14 bedrooms, upstairs corridors and a ground floor lounge.

"Great location"

28/01/2016

Situated on the seafront the hotel is wonderfully located. I was only staying one night, but I was most impressed with the room size, it was more like a suite. The TV was rather small but the WiFi was very efficient. I ordered a "special" from the bar which was an overcooked lasagna which was very disappointing. However the Cornish breakfast was very excellent. Good quality and piping hot. An additional bonus was the car park at the rear. As others have commented the hotel is in need of some updating, but I would certainly stay again.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thanks for posting a review about your recent stay with us. I'm sorry that you meal in the bar was not to your satisfaction - I have already spoken to our Chef. It was good to hear that you thought the Breakfast was excellent. I am pleased that you will consider visiting us again as on your return you will notice the efforts of our winter refurbishment.

18/01/2016

I recently stayed in the Hotel Bristol on a work trip and was really pleasantly surprised by the hotel. Although some of the decor was a little dated everything worked and my room was clean, spacious, quiet and warm. I actually really like art deco so the original features of the building were a positive for me. I arrived back at the hotel late hoping to get a drink. The bar had closed a little early as it was a quiet night (completely understandable) but the barman reopened just to get me a drink - really beyond the call of duty!

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thanks very much for posting a review of your recent stay. I am please you enjoyed your stay and our Art Deco features. We are begininng the process of refurbishing some bedrooms and public areas whilst trying to be respectful of our 1920's heritage.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Although it was for one night and a Christmas party everything was good. The room was quite large and had great sea views and was very clean and warm. The Christmas meal sw god an served as silver service which was a pleasant change from helping yourselves and trying to be polite!

"Thank god for the staff !!!!"

Walking through the front door was like stepping back in time, not quite Downton abbey but the finest 70's decor. The hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment with the ageing decor and facilities struggling to meet the needs of a modern traveller. However, the rooms were very clean, warm and comfortable. High quality bedding and basic tea/ coffee making facilities. Our room was equipped with the biggest bathroom i have ever had in a hotel (albeit brown tiles on the walls and floral wall paper on the ceiling, held up with drawing pins ) The breakfast was second to none, the Full Cornish is the one to go for .. Please don't misunderstand me the staff were superb and operated in a way that would be a credit to a 5* London hotel. The Hotel is located within a 5 minute walk of the main town centre where night life and plentiful restaurants can be found. Other positive notes Free carpark. Free WIFI. Hair driers in each room. Tea and coffee making facilities.

"Another Wonderful Stay"

24/12/2015

We have been to the Bristol for many years now and each year we see an improvement. Really friendly staff and service. The food in the restaurant has been superb. We stay in a disabled access room and this year with the upgrading of the heater system made our stay perfect. There is only one fault, the disabled room is the furthest from the lift!

"Christmas Party Night"

Great night out for the price. Food was great, beef melted in your mouth!! Food was all piping hot and when you are serving so many (about 200) at the same time - that is really good going. Yes the decor is a bit dated but the rooms are clean and spotless. Will definitely be back!

17/12/2015

We visited the hotel for a works Christmas party. The hotel is quite dated. There were a lot of staff and the food was served promptly and was hot. However, as a Christmas menu it was dull. The starter was tasteless (Camembert in filo pastry) the main course meat looked processed, all square shaped and 2 slices, plain carrots, Brussels, mash and roast potatoes, nothing festive about it, then chocolate terrine (basically a slab of chocolatey goo, which was rich, but no cream, ice cream offered with it, so I asked and was brought some cream, I would not have been able to eat it without it, mince pies, coffee and a chocolate. Sadly I then got a massive headache so we didn't stay for the disco.

Great staff and service on our Christmas party night. Food was very good and nice to have silver service. Bed comfortable and large bathroom. Only negative comment is the dated decor. However clean and tidy. Would go again.

"Where was Poirot?"

03/12/2015

Stayed at the Bristol last week. Don't get me wrong, the Bristol is a lovely hotel with very friendly staff but it is looking a bit dated. Also, given the time of year,it wasn't't very busy so I kept expecting to bump into Hercules Poirot around every corner as it reminded me of a set from the detective series. Food was good, breakfast was very good but maybe a bit more on the plate but all in all, a very nice stay and room 352 is very comfortable. Come on Great Western, give the hotel a bit of a make over and the attention this grand hotel deserves or at least do something with the staircase carpet!

"Good hotel"

Stayed as a coach driver, had a 3rd floor room, very large double and single bed,sea view room, was very windy but glazing coped well, staff friendly, bar ok,breakfast good, swimming pool ok,big function on in another room and all of a sudden invaded in bar by people who had had to much wine with dinner, should have a separate bar for them,,15 min walk to main town, tesco express near by,in summary good location clean comfortable and good staff,

"Warm welcome, great position, lovely view and well trained staff."

Spent the weekend at a dance event and the hotel did everything they could to make it enjoyable for us all. We were scheduled to eat dinner every evening together and it was well organised, food all came out at same time, hot and delicious. The service was excellent. My room was lovely and warm and had a fantastic view of the sea, which was very dramatic during the storm that was blowing outside! The bathroom was a bit tired but clean and there was plenty of hot water. Main ballroom is mirrored and a good size. That and the smaller function room have well maintained sprung wooden floors. Breakfast had loads of choices and was up to standard expected. Parking is at the rear and if full there is a public car park within minutes, which you do not have to pay for provided the hotel has your reg no. This hotel is not 'posh' but it is comfortable and nicely decorated. The plaster worked ceilings are beautiful.

"Average at best"

22/11/2015

Tried this hotel while away on business, the room and decoration was very tired, bathroom suite didn't match, mixture of white and yellow fixtures that would have been exceptable in the 80's. I felt that the premium price charged wasn't in line with the quality of hotel. There are much nicer hotels for the money. The breakfast and location were good to end on a positive!

"Service is everything "

18/11/2015

Good hotel, had a fantastic room on the top floor with a living room with bay windows overlooking the Newquay cost. Slept very well and breakfast in the morning was lovely served by a polite and professional assistant restaurant manager (sam) I think.......Didn't dine in as it was quiet and not many people in the hotel but could have been persuaded to by the staff if they tried. Overall very good stay. Hotel is dated but the room and service made up for it

Where do I start The good. I had a front facing room overlooking Newquay beach view was fantastic, the breakfast staff and food was very high quality and enjoyed. The bad The hotel although is of a historical age it looks tired and neglected it is in desperate need of a fresh look. The ugly The bathroom wallpaper was peeling off, can't understand why you put paper in a damp atmosphere botch repair over bath and shower unsightly, the cold water never turned to cold. The bed although comfortable was shakey It's a shame this could be a lot better if money was invested but can only assume due to tourist trade in summer were people would be turned away from the door there isn't the incentive to do anything

Needs a facelift for a non budget hotel. Bed comfortable enough, very small old fashioned bathroom (no bath). Stayed 2 nights and woken both mornings before 7am by people walking passed the room as the floorboards creak so badly!! Poor lighting in room for getting ready ladies. Breakfast the first morning was fine, no self service at all though. Men may prefer larger portions! The 2nd morning the breakfast venue changed as due to the function we had attended the previous night at the hotel, there were more people, so the function dining hall was used and there was some self service (cereals & juice). On entering our party of 4 were asked to sit separately to avoid using another table, which i declined!!! Burnt toast too! The function was for 150 people and the seating arrangement was cramped to say the least. The food served was ok though. Wine choice not great, who doesn't have Zinfandel these days?? Hard work with the suitcases, the lift holds 2 people and there are quite a few stairs to negotiate.

"Great service"

Business stay, first time here. Cannot complain about the value for money. Place does need a bit of tlc but you get what you pay for! Service from staff was excellent. Car parking at rear. Free wifi, good breakfast. Great view if you get a sea front facing room.

Having accompanied my 90year old uncle on what was his 64th year visiting this hotel, I am truly impressed with the excellent standards the young family continue to maintain. Amazing sea views outstanding food and a warmth of welcome that is second to non. We will be back.

A great stay at the Best Western in Newquay. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Felt relaxed and comfortable about our two dogs staying at the Hotel with us, Perfect location , next to the centre and across the road from the beautiful beaches, Décor a little dated but clean and comfortable and ideal for the purpose of our visit

"Large room with magnificent sea views"

We booked a superior room as it was a special celebration and were not disappointed as it was huge with amazing views of the sea and surfers. Although the swimming pool was basic, I had 2 fabulous massages by Sue. Would return again.

"October 2015 Holiday"

5
26/10/2015

We have just enjoyed a two-week holiday at the Best Western Hotel Bristol. We absolutely love this hotel and it is our second home. We first started staying there in 1959 when we were just two years old. The hotel is a lovely old building with long corridors and beautiful rooms, most of which have spectacular sea views. The staff are so friendly and professional and many of them have worked there for years. We have not been abroad for years and years but we stay at The Bristol twice a year. Well done to all the staff, Caroline, Linda and Dawn in the restaurant, and the restaurant managers, Lucaz and Sam, and Glenys, Angie and Alison on Reception. We are already counting down the days until our next visit in March 2016.

"Dated but very good value and excellent staff"

4
18/10/2015

I've used The Bristol on a few occasions for short term business trips. Like most hotels in Newquay, it is a bit dated. But all the rooms do have all you need, comfortable bed, tea/coffee, good wifi etc. Rooms do need updating as does the public rooms. Excellent breakfast, order what you want. All staff are more than helpful.

"Nice view of the sea"

4
15/10/2015

The hotel is in a good location just at the top of the town and is in easy walking distance to all Newquay has to offer, with beaches walks shops and pubs etc. all within a short walk. The room was a bit tired as was the bathroom but the location made up for that and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

"Great Staff"

A nice older type of seaside classic hotel. Very welcoming and well presented staff Great food and great bar Excellent location for nice long walks outside Newquay. Car parking good. Lots of interesting events go on at this hotel Game preservation meeting, Murder mystery weekends and so on. Well worth a visit

"Good English hotel"

08/10/2015

Ok.... This is not a modern hotel but it oozes charm as a classic English holiday hotel. The carpets may be threadbare in places but the service from all of the staff and the quality of the food could not be faulted. Excellent !!!

"Not that great"

02/10/2015

Sometimes I wonder how a property ends up with such a high TripAdvisor rating and the Hotel Bristol is one of those cases. The hotel was probably fairly grand 30-40 years ago, but it is pretty run down today, with depressing rooms and hallways. The location is good, right on the seafront with lovely views. Parking is easy and free. However, the décor is decidedly garish (floral prints everywhere), the carpets have not been changed in a while and the corridor leading to my room really stank. The WiFi doesn't work (for me or about six colleagues in different rooms). My room was unusually large, but this made the age and incongruity of the fittings even more noticeable. You could hardly see the TV from the bed (tiny) and the bathroom was really basic. I understand that the investment needed to return this place to its former glory would never pay back, but simple things like proper glasses in the bathroom rather than plastic ones, staff folding towels that one has left on the railing to be reused or providing proper toilet tissue rather than the cheapest strips of paper ever seen would help! Staff were generally friendly and helpful, although the restaurant staff were trying so hard to come across like they were waiting at a five star hotel it was comical given the surroundings and poor quality of what was being served. The breakfast buffet could definitely do with some healthier choices and fresh fruit! I suppose all of the above could be forgiven if at least the hotel was good value, but to pay over £100 per night for B&B outside the main season and have to deal with the above just struck me as pretty poor.

BWHB, Managing Director at BEST WESTERN Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Thanks for your review. Many valid points expressed which I would be foolish to challenge. We have always re-invested as much as possible but you will be pleased to know that we will be accelerating that process with a major refurbishment programme commencing this autumn. At least 16 bedrooms will be revitalised by the spring plus some of our public areas too. We welcome comments from all guests so that we can get a feel for their concerns.

"Super Sunday Lunch."

4
22/09/2015

My sisters and I were fortunate enough to win Sunday lunch for two ( which was donated by the hotel ) at a charity ball. The three course lunch was beautifully presented as well as being very tasty, the staff polite and attentive. We were lucky to have been given a table next to the window so had a wonderful view of the bay which was full of activity. We can definitely recommend this hotel/restaurant for the first class service we received.

"Above & Beyond Service"

4
17/09/2015

While the hotel itself is a bit tired and needs to upgraded, it is in a good location with views of beach and surfers directly across the street. The one thing that really impressed us was that we forgot an item in the room and realized it after checking out. We called the hotel to ask if they had found the item and if it was possible to have it shipped back to us. Without hesitation, they agreed to ship the item back to us, which was outside of the UK. And not only did they ship that item, but they also shipped another item of ours, which we left in the room and were not aware of doing so until we received it in the post. We are very thankful for their honesty and generosity with the international shipment at their cost. We would stay there again, but would like to see an upgraded hotel next time.

"Classic English Hotel"

5
17/09/2015

Cannot really fault the hotel, the staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was great, the service excellent. My only gripe was that the room we stayed in (great view overlooking the bay) was a bit tires an '70's emulsioned artex on the walls, but this did not deter the great 6 days we had there
