« Great Location for beach, & excellent remodel. »

Other than check-in/check-out staff who were great, the other staff was not so. It took 15 mins to get an answer on do I need a reservation for buffet(witch DON'T do the buffet it was laughable for $36!! half that maybe, It's best western not Bellagio, or the Ritz). The bartender took my order then served 2 others first, then I asked how much & stood there for 5 mins with $$ out, then just walked out.

« Love it! Don't stay anywhere else! »

I had never stayed at the BW in Newport and it was great. They are in the middle of a remodel but, it was soooo worth it. The room was fresh and clean and the ocean view king room was perfect. I don't think you could get closer to the beach. I won't be staying anywhere else from here on out!

    « Love the updates! »

We have stayed several time at the Agate Beach location. This visit was after their amazing updates. The room, dog friendly, was clean, comfortable and had a wonderful beach view. I loved that the beds and pillows were so comfortable. I have noticed on some other hotels, the dog friendly rooms have the worse beds and not clean. BW was amazing with clean, comfortable rooms. The restaurant update and food was exceptional. Loved the food and enjoyed the view from the restaurant. Highly recommend the hotel and restaurant.

    « Where do I begin »

Restaurant was way overpriced, not the one they had listed on website, very limited on what they served, changed names and did not carry what previous place had featured on website, paint smell horrible in halls and in room, room needed cleaning, bathtub was dirty,tv needed serious dusting, and not sure what happened to celing but it looked damaged not sure what was going on with that, the beds were nice and the view, but this was the worse BW experience I have had.

    « Beautiful view »

Booked hotel while on road. Surprised when we arrived how lovely it was. Hotel under construction. clean. We had a lovely room overlooking ocean. Does not include breakfast, which reservation desk said it did. Bed and pillows comfortable. Receptionist lovely Lady, very helpful

    « Beacj view »

I was there the night of 4/27/18. The place is being updated. I have to say this is the very finest Best Western I've ever been in. The decore' was beautiful. The service was every bit as good. The staff was helpful & friendly as we worked our way through a few minor bugs in information. No biggie. My e-mail address was wrong. I was on the 5th floor overlooking the beach. The view was very nice. The place was clean. The bed was comfortable, the fridge was cold, the wifi worked, etc. The comedian who had the place before me set the alarm to go at midnight. Thanks for the hour of lost sleep. The restaurant served good food and the beer selection was good too. The only thing that really was a bother was the fact that the parking lot takes 10 minutes to get to. You usually have to take an elevator to the right floor, then find and take a foot bridge to the lot. That's a drag when you've got luggage to haul. The other option is to walk wayyyyyy around and up a hill. One word of warning. The sliding doors facing the ocean will open easily. The railing is low. So small children will be at risk of a fatal fall. Bear that in mind when asking for a room.

    « Great coastal stay »

This Best Western hotel is in the last stages of a major remodel and the property is beautiful. The view of Agate Beach is lovely. Rooms are well decorated, clean and comfortable. We were not disappointed and would stay again.

    « Good Nights Rest »

This hotel is going through some renovations and I'm sure when complete it will be very nice. I understand they are adding an outside fire-pit area to their lounge area. All the rooms have been/are being remodeled. We had stayed on the 5th floor in a remodeled room and it was very nice and clean. This is a standard fare big-chain hotel and has all the amenities you would expect. The two drawbacks for me is that the beach is actually across the street from the hotel and the hotel is a little drive down to the bayfront area. All-in-all if you are looking for a clean place that is ocean view to rest your head, this is it. I cannot comment on the restaurant, as I did not eat there during my stay.

« Under construction but beautiful remodel!!! »

I am here for a business conference and the construction is not as bad as it was last year. Well worth the minor inconvenience! The rooms are beautiful. I will definitely stay here again. Great location and fantastic views of the ocean.

« Our room and the hotel were very nice, but avoid the restaurant for breakfast! »

I stayed here for a business conference. The hotel is under renovation, which was fine, they apologized for the construction, and we felt they did their best to keep the noise level down. My husband went with me and our room was beautiful, looking out at the ocean with a small balcony, we loved the view! The rooms are tastefully decorated, and the bed was VERY comfortable. The meals at the conference were standard fare, nothing to write home about, but okay for this type of event. Our only issue with this place was the restaurant downstairs. On Sunday (the first day of the conference) breakfast was on our own, so we thought we'd give this place a try. We didn't see a sign about waiting to be seated or to seat ourselves, so I asked the male server who was at the bar with a couple of female serves if it was okay to seat ourselves or not. He replied in a nasty tone "Not really, but whatever! Just don't sit at a dirty table!" I was taken aback, but thought he was just having a rough morning and we really didn't want to have to leave the hotel for breakfast, so we sat down (at a clean table). He continued to complain about us and others who had left and ignored us as far as menus, water, service in general. We finally got the hint and left. This was perhaps the rudest server I've ever experienced. I shared my first experience with one of the coordinators of our conference and she informed me that I was third person to report the male server's behavior (on separate days than the day I had been there) and that she would report him. If this was not an isolated incident, he really should be trained, or find other employment. The next night, I was on my own for dinner and didn't have a car to leave the hotel, so I decided to brave this place again. This time there was a podium with a sign that said "please wait to be seated" and I was seated very promptly by another server, and more mature woman who gave very good service. The food was good and I left happier than I would have thought possibly after my first experience. I would stay here again, as the hotel is lovely.

    « It'll be a 4 once construction is done. »

There's construction. It's not that bad if you're a tourist and out most of the day. During our stay (early April) they were working on the first floor, so to get to the pool we had to dodge some construction debris--wallboard dust etc. But once you got there, the pool is a 5--saltwater, very warm, with a nice spa too. My kids loved it--we swam every day, twice a day at least once. Only the main restaurant was open during our stay (a real bummer that the bar was not yet completed--I had counted on that for our stay and was disappointed to see it still under construction, but with no notice about it on the website). We didn't dine in the restaurant, preferring to sample the restaurants of Newport. We all slept well. Our room was clean and comfortable for the most part. They have added sliding bathroom doors, which have no locks. These are awful. Hard to use, awkward and ... you can't lock the door! They have a little coffee maker on a built in shelf in the entertainment unit/dresser. however, the plug wasn't plugged in and there was no way for me to plug it in in place--no reachable outlet. So i had to move the coffee maker to the desk, taking up room on the desk. Seems they have made some small, poor and awkward, choices about how to finish these rooms. Hopefully, they'll get better as they work through their punch list. I'd consider staying her again if I went to Newport, but honestly, we'd probably go with a hotel that included breakfast. That pool though...it's nice!

    « Construction was a drag »

Construction was not completed as promised which did cause a slight discomfort while staying. Having to walk around construction items, parking was bad & having to hear construction tools during conference

« great place to stay »

very nice place, I will be going back there again, nice decor in rooms, great views, great staff , bar very nice, food good they are in the process of remodeling the hole hotel , it will be very nice when they get done

« Great weather great location. »

We stayed a couple of days and the weather was great for walking on the beach close by. The hotel was under an upgrade but it was almost hidden from us and really didn't impact other than parking was minimally inconvenienced. We have stayed there before and we will stay again.

    5
« Beautiful rooms, short walk to the coast »

Our stay here was wonderful, and the rooms are gorgeous. I love how close this hotel is to the ocean. The hotel was under renovation when we arrived, but we were not given advanced notice. Continental breakfast and lounge/bar/restaurant were unavailable. I had requested a room with ocean view, but there weren't any available when we arrived because of the renovation project.

    5
    « just ok »

the hotel was in the middle of a remodel which we were not informed about upon making our reservation. The Bar was closed. the walls in the rooms that have been remolded are so thin you can here everything being said in the rooms on either side of us. The spa needs some maintenance.

    4
« Will be back long after the construction »

When we arrived we noticed that there was no parking near the hotel because of construction. They told us we had to park in a fire lane (which is not very safe if there is a fire) or park way up this side road that is on a steep hill and walk to a bridge then go down an elivator. When we got onto the floor where or room was the smell of chemicals from the remodel was so strong. It was not as bad in our room but it still made me have breathing issues. The rooms are very beautiful and the view is pretty nice but long walk to the beach. The only thing I found odd in the room was the bathroom door. There is not much privacy. The door only slides over the opening of the bathroom. It is a couple of inches from the wall . It's very odd. I would prefer to shut the bathroom door not slide it over like a barn door. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and it was a bad mistake. We did not like any of it except the toast and jelly. Skip the breakfast if you do stay here. I would not recommend it at all. I would stay again but after about maybe five years when all the new chemical smell has gone hopefully.

« Beautiful beach, bad parking availability »

The real issue was we were unaware at booking they were under construction and how it affected their parking. We always like Best Western for their beds, cleanliness and pet friendly. Just this stay was a pain arriving late and trying to get around a packed parking lot with many storage containers in the way due to construction. The room was remodeled, so it did have a slight odor of new carpet or paint smell, not a real issue. Bathroom sink was trying to clog but I'm sure they fixed it after we reported it when leaving. Restaurant was excellent. Beach would've been great if it hadn't been raining, so did get the pleasure, but view of storm was cool.

    « Golden Anniversary Trip »

We returned to Newport, OR, where we had gone for our honeymoon 50 years ago. Both the hotel we stayed in then and the restaurant where we had dinner were gone. The Best Western Agate Beach Hotel was wonderful. The newly remodeled rooms, lobby and restaurant are beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the onsite Starfish Grill. The gluten free halibut fish and chips were the best ever!

« Just for our family »

We love this hotel, from the time we arrived the staff has been friendly. Anna and Issac made sure our family could have adjoining rooms. It has been perfect and the room service has hands down been ??Excellent. Tonight, our waitress Diana was amazing. The food is really good. Loved it.The rooms are nice. View is beautiful. Beach access is easy. We will be back!! Once all the construction is completed. It will be an amazing Best Western. We will be making lots of memories here.???? NordNold

    « Oregon Coast getaway »

We enjoyed staying at this Best Western as they are remodeling the hotel, we had a very nice room on the 6th floor with an ocean view. The location was good and many things to do within a 25 mile area.

« Best Western truly does not care about their guests. »

The following is the email I sent to Best Western's customer service department that was never responded to and it's almost been an entire week since it was sent. The manager here at the Newport location, Anna [--], is very rude and lacks basic customer service knowledge. We brought dogs on our stay and made the reservation as pet friendly. When checking in all parties were aware that pets were going to be staying with us and is part of the reason we chose best western. As we were at breakfast this morning, Anna [--] , contacted my significant other and was very rude during the conversation in regards to the dogs being left in the guest room. Her tone was very condescending and unfriendly. I have worked at Westin and as I'm sure you can agree, this interaction is not acceptable in hospitality. When we returned to the hotel to speak with Anna [--]about the conversation she had with my significant other, she was rude and would consistently talk over me and made assumptions on my feelings about the situation. The first thing i said to her was a question. How long have you been in the hospitality industry? She responded a long time. I then attempted to ask if she feels the way she spoke to my significant other is hospitable but I could not complete my question as she became emotionally charged and frustrated with such a simple inquiry. I attempted to ask my question againyet she chose to speak over me again and her frustration showed so much she turned completely around before not answering the question yet again. Anna continued to talk over me as she was focused on telling us how we need to read things before signing them. At this point it has been made very clear to me that Anna is unfit for her current position and needs additional coaching or a break. After she got her personal thoughts and feelings off her chest, she was sure to assume she knew my feelings on the situation. At this point I believe she was done and asked her how she was aware of my feelings and to state what I said to her verbatim as I said nothing about my feelings. Anna claimed that she was being attacked by me and refuse to answer any of my questions. I let her know she had done a very poor job in handling the interaction and is in great need of coaching. I then headed to my room. My significant other went back down to get a copy of what was signed in regards to the pets, as Anna stated that we signed something saying we did not have pets in the room and if we did we were not allowed to leave them in the hotel as she doesn't know of any other hotels that would allow that. If you'd like a list of these hotels I can provide it. My significant other asked for a copy of what we signed for review. And that document had a box we initialled stating there would be a 75 fee to clean a non pet room if there is a pet. There was nothing initialed stating we were not bringing pets, so Anna [--] lied to us and created this entire escalation by not doing her due diligence and jumping to conclusions. My significant other let Anna know there was nothing initialed about not having pets in the room. Anna [--] chose to respond to this with another excuse and lie, stating that it's an allergy issue. As my significant other and myself also have experience in property management, we understand a room can be cleaned to remove allergens. Come to find out that the issue was created by the booking of the room being done incorrectly by best western as the room was to be booked as no smoking with pets as opposed to no smoking and no pets. If Anna [--] would have shown an ounce of hospitality, patience, and/or done her due diligence prior to accusations, this entire scenario would have been avoided. Best western would still have us as future guests as well when we travel for business and personal, yet will choose another hotel after this experience with Anna [--] whom best western has deemed fit for management. Room 418 at Newport, Or. Without a reply to my email, Best Western has made it clear they do not value their guests.

    « best place around »

loved the help the staff gave us and enjoyed the view very much. the room was clean and set up comfortably, working appliances no broken or messed up equipment, and the coffee was better than the others Best westerns. We will be returning there in the near future. Even though they were remodeling the place it was easy access and clean. Some signs of construction, but that was to be expected.

« Perfect Spot, Right on the Beach »

Super nice Hotel in a great spot. Pretty sure most of the rooms here provide a great view of the ocean. We were kinda worried that it was so reasonably priced, we thought it might not be so nice, but its a VERY nice Hotel with a dream location! We ordered from the Thai restaurant downtown had it delivered and enjoyed the sunset from our room. Then we left the glass door open to enjoy the sounds of the surf to aid our sleep. VERY NICE! Absolutely would return if staying in Newport again.

    « Good trip overall »

There is remodel going so rooms had that weird new smell but service was friendly, especially behind the bar. They gave me great margarita. We went during the Seafood & Wine festival so very busy but was expected. Workers did well enough job handling the increase influx of people.

    5
    « Newport Vacation »

The Best Western was a solid place to stay on the trip and we had no problems staying in the rooms, interacting with staff and the seafood was great as well. Main bar was closed but the temporary bar made up for it.

« This is the way it should be. »

I was in a newly renovated room with great ocean view. The room was very clean and bed was quite comfortable. I understand from chatting with hotel staff that the whole place is being renovated and updated. I've stayed here before and have to say with what they've accomplished it's like staying in a brand new hotel. I really was impressed with the new menu in the restaurant. Parking was a little bit of a challenge, due to the shipping containers, but that's obviously very temporary due to construction. The staff was very nice and helpful. And, I was warmly greeted and thanked for staying, which is a very nice change from a lot of places these days. I'll definitely be back.

    5
« Remodel is promising and good food »

Was there during festival, therefore obviously things in remodel and busy but remodel looks good so far! Had the special bloody Mary and hit the spot. Definitely will be back after remodel. Staff was friendly and helpful.

    « Mixed review »

The staff were friendly, the facility clean, though construction not finished and bar set up in extra room. Our heat didn't work, but they fixed it the next day. (Had to ask twice for enough blankets to be warm.) Toilet didn't flush properly and tub didn't drain but fixed it the first morning. The exercise machines didn't work but the maintenance guy came right away. The new decor is going for brown and grey modern... not my favorite but clean and updated. Not the warmest colors. Wasn't outstanding and wasn't terrible. Due to the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival, room rates were doubled.

    3
    « Anxious to return »

Hotel is a work in process so lots of construction and workers around the facility. Front desk staff was friendly during check in and although we were early (12:30) they had a room ready. Our room was beautiful. The furnishings were modern, color scheme was peaceful. Bed was comfortable and everything was in working order in our room. There is noise from the hall like one of the other reviewers mentioned. It was worse our first night and pretty much non existent the second night. This might still be something they are working on. The door had a large gap so noises would be carried into the room. Bar was being remodeled but it looks to have a great view and I look forward to returning to check it out. Had breakfast both mornings and staff was great. Our server could not have been nicer. Food was ok....pancakes were good! We had a few issues which I talked to the front desk about. They were receptive and I am certain they will address them and make this truly a great stop! Beach is right outside and a very walkable enjoyable place. Check out this hotel, it is going to be a true destination!

« Clean rooms, friendly staff, noise issues »

I stayed in one of the renovated rooms which was clean, well-appointed and had an amazing view of the ocean. The renovations are set to finish up later this year and all the rooms will be as nice as this one. Staff were friendly and hotel was set up well for dogs. Lots of parking and easy access inside from 1st and 6th floors (it's on a hill). Only issue was noise- walls are thin especially around the door in between rooms. Bring earplugs if this could be a problem for you.

    4
« amazing view, under construction, pet friendly »

We had a nice corner room on the top floor w/ the best view of the ocean! I would stay just for the view. It had a balcony which was nice. The room was redone so it was clean and furniture were new. Our dogs were welcome. Overall had a really good experience but we were unlucky and had a very noisy neighbor and their noise came right through the door adjoining the 2 rooms. They need to seal the seams better. There was a screaming baby at 4 AM and the mother was coughing non stop. It was terrible. It wasn't the hotel's fault that this family had issues but they could really do a better job w/ the seal on the door between rooms. Otherwise, great hotel. Very close to a very wide, expansive beach which was wonderful! There is a pool and hot tub although we didn't use it.

    3
« Remodeled room is beautiful »

This hotel is a place you need to be cautious about. Seriously understaffed in all areas. I have stayed all over the world and I've never seen a hallway outside my door covered in piles of laundry, so bad we could hardly go through it, trays of room service that were there since breakfast, it was evening. The one person at the front desk is rude. The beach is great for walking the dogs and people. The room service food from the dining room is adequate. They need to discount this place. Also besides them saying that they had finished the 6th floor that wasn't true. It's loud with the construction and again she lied about the times they're working. There was also a huge blast that shock the whole building at 5 am. Be warned.

    3
    « Under construction »

Under construction. Just know it's under construction! For us our room was very busy and smelt bad. We slept with sliding door open. The sports bar was closed. It's a mess. Maybe wait to visit until construction is done in March.

    1
« Dog Friendly not true »

They say they are Dog friendly. We didn't find out till we booked a room. That you have to contact the Hotel to ask for a dog room. Also that we you leave the Hotel. your Dog must go with you and you have to tell them when you go to the pool and to the Restaurant that you going there. We stayed for a month in a Best Western in Colorado Springs and never had a problem leaving our dog. But was told it was a Hotel policy not Best Westerns policy. They allowed me to Cancel my reservation but the I was stuck trying to find a place. It was a special trip it was our 10th Anniversary. I will stay at another best western but not this one.

    4
    « On the beach »

The remodel is very nice, really updated feel. Always nice having the restaurant and lounge in the facility. Close to shopping and activities, but you still feel secluded in your own area. I always stay here when I'm in Newport

    4
    « Best western »

Very nice location, it was under construction, so, couldn't get an ocean view room, but, the beach is close enough to walk, and it's very close to the aquarium, and downtown, and old bay area, we are going to try again after construction is finished

    5
    « Loved it »

Stayed here on our way back to CA. We had the 6th floor over looking the beautiful beach. Yes they are renovating but other then see a couple worker dudes, we would never know. The pool indoor with Jacuzzi were the best. Clean and warm. I love 8 am swim! The breakfast was good. Coffee bagel I'm good. The lady working the breakfast was real nice as is all the front desk staff. I would def. Stay here again.

    5
    « Very happy »

I booked with this Best Western because of the location knowing full well there was construction. It didn't disturb us too much, as the working hours were very reasonable. We had a great children's themed room that my kids loved but there was a couple problems with the room. The maintenance guy was very helpful as was the cleaning staff. The front desk understood our concerns about the room and went out of there way to make sure we were comfortable. We were moved to a very nice updated room. I was very impressed with how the hotel handled our concerns and I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and I'm already looking forward to our next trip.

    2
    « Renovations in process »

Major renovations are under way, which impact your stay. Nice location near Agate beach, which is great walking beach. This is a large property for a Best Western, with 6 floors and interior hallways. We stayed in a pet friendly room (which I appreciate), but the hallway was extremely dirty. Bathroom sink was clogged and it took handyman almost an hour to unclog it. The staff is pleasant, but you may want to wait until after the renovations are complete unless this is your only option as it was not up to what you would normally expect in a BW operation.

We enjoyed our stay at the Newport BW! Big room, Nice shower, beautifully furnished, comfortable King bed, good food, beach access; Beach was beautiful! great staff. Used a Groupon but stayed an extra night. Good price. Great location! We would go again.

« Stopped in for a short hello visit at B/W Agate Beach Inn while on the Oregon Coast for business »

Stopped in to say hello and make reservations for Christmas 2018 holiday. The Hotel GM came out to say hello and offered a tour to see the remodel work. The new rooms are wonderful and we look forward to our annual Christmas visit this year and also having Christmas dinner in the hotel. We've visited each Christmas Holiday for the previous six (6) years but because of obligations near home, we weren't able to visit Christmas 2017. We certainly missed seeing the GM and great staff and our future plans are to NOT miss another holiday visit there.

    « Great Stay! »

Thoughtful staff and in the process of updating their rooms. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and it was lovely! Even had an ocean view. We weren't there very long, but I'll definitely be back!

« Just what we needed! »

We stayed here for a couple nights before we met up with family for Thanksgiving. This hotel was absolutely perfect! The beach is very close and easily accessible! There is also a Walmart right next door! I loved that our room had a balcony. (Which it seemed most rooms did.) The beds were comfortable as well! The bar and restaurant seemed very nice, although I did not get a chance to eat there due to other plans. My favorite feature though, was their indoor pool & hot tub! I was amazed that for the first time a hotel pool wasn't freezing to me! Even though a lot of hotels say their pools are heated, they still are way too cold for me! This pool however, was very refreshing! It felt like cooler bath water instead of river water. I also wasn't itchy after swimming, so I think they use salt water instead of chlorine! The staff is also super friendly! Especially Anna at the front desk! She was so sweet with our 2 year old! I definitely recommend this hotel & if we are in the area again, we are absolutely staying here!!! Small side note, but this hotel still deserves every star! 1. I disliked the smell that the hand soap (bar of soap) left on my hands! (Shampoo and conditioner were fine.) 2. The appliances (mini fridge & microwave) especially the microwave seemed like it could use an update.

    « A+ »

Great place and great views. It'll be better when remodeling is done. I stayed in a remodeled room and it was nice and clean. Wish it would've had elongated toilets instead of round. Needs USB ports on night stand.

The place is perfect if you want a beach front view but not all rooms is facing the ocean. You need to request it. There is no free breakfast. Our room is non smoking but the bathroom smells cigarette which gives me a headache.

    « Great location »

Very friendly staff, nice rooms, beach extremely close, remodeling at the moment, it's going to be amazing. Very good parking situation and nice pool area. Breakfast could use some improvement, but for 5 buck couldn't complain.

    « NOT GREAT VALUE »

We stopped at this hotel because it was a Best Western. They were undergoing renovations, but we decided to stay there anyway. Upon check in, we asked about breakfast thinking (mistakenly) that breakfast was part of the deal. They simply said downstairs and we could order off the menu - because this was a Best Western we thought that brekfast was incluuded. We found out we were wrong the next morning. The staff we talked to were not helpful in the least - they just wanted to get rid of us. Bad attitude. The room was OK, although we could see signs of the renovations all around the hotel - dirty carpets, dust, etc. Pool and hot tub were fine.

    « Relaxing »

Wonderful stay. Hotel just across the street from the beach. They were so nice and upgraded us to a full ocean view room. I so needed this time away for healing. Loved the fireplace in the lobby with the Christmas tree and music in the background. Will definitely be back.

« Winter at the beach »

Two minute walk to the beach from this very pet friendly property. Superb ocean views from our room. Hotel was undergoing renovation during our stay, but its impact was minimal. There was no free breakfast but plenty of good places for that in Newport. We'd come back here in a heartbeat.

    « There's better out there! »

I have understandable expectations when I book at a Best Western and this one did not deliver at all. Granted it's under a much needed makeover, so the price should reflect that when getting an old, barely clean and uncomfortable room. The linens are worn out, the mattresses are like sponge cakes (even stained!) and the bathroom is the size of a closet. We paid an extra USD 20 + tax to get an ocean view but we ended up taking a walk on the beach and could have spent that money more wisely. Overall this hotel is overrated and underwhelming to say the least.

    1
    « Worst food ever »

Starfish grill wastve worst food and incorrect orders. Shells in eggs, cold food, expensive and awful. Would never eat here again. Staff did not offer to discount meal or comp anything. Had to send order back because it was so terrible.

    « Undergoing needed construction »

The hotel has promise, but has yet to meet the full potential that is in store for it. I didn't know prior to booking out stay, but construction was taking place on upper floors, and it started at 8:30am. We could hear them drilling before we were really ready to wake up. The pool and hot tub are awesome, and the view of the surf is nice, even if it is a distance away.

    5
    « Wonderful, relaxing stay »

One of the better Best Westerns we've stayed at. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and tidy. The location was perfect while having a camper installed just over a mile down the road. The traffic was a bit daunting since we're from the coast and unaccustomed to gridlock, but that's to be expected when visiting the Big City. This motel was handy to get to and tucked back from the highway enough so the traffic noises weren't unbearable. All in all, we couldn't have asked for more. We'll definitely stay here again when in the Portland area.

« Great hotel, just wait till renovation is complete »

I love the location of this hotel, staff is great and once the renovation is finished it will be a great place to stay. Just know until then their might be drilling and hammering at 8:00 am! Besides that they have been great on 2 desperate stays and I will be back.

« Nice stay for our anniversary with our pups »

We were told they were remodeling ahead. Rooms nice and clean as well as lobby ect.. Resonable pet fee. Excellent service from Isaac at front desk!! You get a good price because of the remodel. Nice view of the ocean to.

    « Concerned »

Due to construction, of which I was warned of, I had concerns of what our stay would be like. Yes, the construction was loud, but my concerns didn't apply to this stay. Their hours were fine, we leave during the day for beach time. Great staff for sure. My concerns were gone and can't wait to stay here when it's remodeled.

    « Renovation »

Bad experience that's abnormal. The hotel is under major renovation that's not listed on their website or noted in the lobby, Not even conveyed at check in. 8:30 AM the next morning the hammer drill starts. When I called front desk the clerk said she could hear it through the phone and it never has been that loud. She talked with manager and manager said to comp room at 50%. No call from the manager to explain or apologize. After complaining at check out the desk clerk agreed the room should be comped at 100%. Construction is difficult and the renovation is needed as the rooms and interior is definitely dated but you either close the property while the major part of the renovation is going on or at the least don't put guests in the same area; even a couple floors down. The upper parking lot is full of containers and one floor I saw was completely gutted. Again, this is a major, needed renovation that's just not handled right for the guests. On the floor being renovated there was a sign apologizing but I didn't see any notice of construction on the floor I was on or in the lobby area. No notice when checking in and no sign of storage containers in the main parking lot. You shouldn't have to ask if the hotel is having any construction when checking in...

    « Under construction »

The hotel is going through a remodeling till March 2018. Staff was accommodating as much as they could be. Will be nice when done but it's a little nerve racking to stay there st this time. Food was excellent.

    « Overall Bad Experience »

No water for 1 1/2 hrs. after check-in. Girls running up & down hallway - and nothing done. Walls are thin, hear the elevator ring when arrive on your floor. Elevator was very cold - felt like inside a walk-in cooler. Screwed up my purchase, charged my credit card - when I used Reward pts. to reserve online.

« Loved this location and the HOTEL »

Definitely would love to stay at this HOTEL in the future - they are renovating the rooms (and they could use a refresher) but even as dated as they may be currently this does not detract from the comfort of the rooms overall.

    « Thanksgiving Stay »

We enjoyed an excellent view of the Pacific Ocean..The walk to the beach was difficult be=cause of deep puddles. We enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving Buffet. There were so many great choices! The many people we encountered were friendly and interesting.

    « FAMILY TRIP »

Hotel is under construction. Rooms are nice and staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant service was not as good as it has been in the past but food was good. One thing that restaurant should do is plan better for food for buffet with different time seatings such as do not run out of meat (turkey) for those that have a later seating time. Make sure that the food that is available for the earlier time seatings is available for the later time seatings so all can enjoy.

« Thanksgiving dinner at Best Western »

For several years now, my husband and I have traveled from the Portland, Oregon area to the Newport area on the coast to spend Thanksgiving at the Best Western at Agate Beach. While there, we enjoy the most delicious buffet meal! Everything from Dungeness crab legs to turkey and lots of yummy side dishes. The rooms are nice, and will be even nicer when they finish a renovation project. We highly recommend this place.

    4
« Excellent staff and location »

We have stayed at this hotel since 1981 when it was built. It has gone through ups and downs over the years, but since Best Western has had it, there has been much improvement. They are currently starting to do a major remodel to all of the guest rooms, including all new windows which were needed and heat systems in the rooms, both of which were needed. While nice now, it will be excellent by early spring when the renovation is complete.

    « Agate Beach Stay »

This was our 30th Wedding Anniversary. There was no continental breakfast at this location, it was need to pay (not expensive) breakfast. The room truly needed to be updated and the bed was too soft and lumpy. The pillows were a bit small for the bed. But the service was terrific and the beach walk is right out the back door.

    « The Oregon coast »

Stayed there one night, very nice location we got a ocean front room and enjoyed the view before sundown. The room was great comfortable seating and the nights sleep was great. We had our evening meal in their dining room and it was excellent. The restaurant offers breakfasts but not through the hotel, we elected to move on and have breakfast in Newport. Great sleep!

    « Relaxing experience »

I decided at the last minute to go to the beach so I looked for a Best Western hotel in NW Oregon that would let me use my rewards for a Saturday night stay that was on the beach. The Best Western Agate Beach Inn is right across a small street from the beach with half the rooms ocean view. They have a sky bridge on the 6th floor to the upper parking lot. They are re-tiling the 6th floor so it's a little messy but they have made it accessible. The hotel is clean and nicely decorated. I got dinner to go from the Starfish Grill which was fantastic. The waitress also made sure I had every condiment available to go with my dinner. The next day I decided to have a late check out which wasn't a problem and then ordered room service breakfast. It came sooner than I was told and was very tasty. From my window on the 5th floor I watched the end of the sunset and then the sunrise all while relaxing in a chair. I could see whales spouting from up there out in the ocean actually not too far out. Saw a Bald Eagle, an Osprey and of course sea gulls and crows. Watched the Yaquina Head Light house from my room also with the waves crashing on the rocks below. It was a beautiful relaxing experience. I love the beach and Best Western Agate Beach made it that much more enjoyable. Too bad I had to go home.

« room smells and dirty, unfriendly staff. »

The room smells. They told me its normal because room is pet friendly. On the top of the bedsheet and under pillow and sheets, there some hair. The bathtub has hair too. I paid and i think i deserve a clean, fresh room. Employee were not nice nor friendly. I took my dog out so they can clean my room and they only empty the garbage and put new towels. No vacuum or bed fix.

    « Decent Hotel »

The staff was great, the hotel is going through renovations which is much needed! The rooms are comparable to a motel 6. The only thing that gives this hotel value is it's location. Pay the extra money for the Shilo or Hallmark!

    « Suprise »

One of our favorite stops for a place to just get away. We love the beach and this location has that and more. Living only two hours away makes this stay here very easy. There are in the middle of remodeling witch will make it that much better next time. We can't wait to see and experience the newly remodeled location.

    5
« Excellent location on the beach. »

This property is under a major remodel, but the facility and staff were great to explain what was going on. The remodel didn't hamper our fun one bit. The pool and hot tub were a great destination for me and my grandkids. The beach is not far, and offers some dramatic scenery. The restaurant provided top notch food. We ordered in a couple of times and also ordered breakfast at the restaurant. Easy check-out.

    « As expected »

I just got back from a trip up the coast line from San Diego to Seattle. A big part of planning this trip was the hotel research. I only selected those with positive reviews and this hotel met those expectations. I only stayed one night. I was traveling alone and never felt nervous. I agree that the rooms needed updating, but I disagree on the staff/service. The front desk staff were very nice and professional. They made a point of asking how my stay was and if there was anything else I needed. The views were fabulous and was able to catch a wonderful sunset. Would highly recommend!!

    1
« It welcoming staff and building in bad shape. »

When we arrived the staff was not welcoming or helpfull at all and the rooms are worn out and needs to be updated. The parking for the hotel is also terrible about the only good things about this hotel is the view and the staff in the morning when we checked out. I would definitely recommend to look around before staying at best western in newport.

    « Nice stay »

Used a Groupon for the hotel, room was very nice and spacious - had a fridge/microwave. Very nice views of the beach and water. Options for restaurants, also a sports bar. Pool looked nice but we did not use. Parking ample, there are ice machines and soda machines on the floors.

    « Road trip »

This is a very nice dog friendly hotel located on a beautiful beach close to Newport. We had a 6th floor room with an impressive ocean view. we enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel and staff were friendly. It was off season so the hotel was not busy and a bit expensive given the circumstances. A beautiful property but ready for a face lift which is ready to start.

    3
« Indoor pool and wonderful beach access »

Overall this was a fine place for our family,,,,the pool was a treat for the kids. as it was indoor and plenty big..the beach was the highlight for a beautiful morning walk, it was stunning and spacious. 3 stars primarily because, for a family of 5, there was no warm breakfast offered and we had to drive offsite for that.

« Great besides the staff theft »

Had a great experience until I went back to my room to gather a few items before I checked out. A housekeeper came into my room when I was in a meetin downstairs and took items out of my room. Left other items and no sign of any housekeeping happened. Trash still full, bed still unmade, just items missing. Hotel manager got involved after a housekeeper came forward with partial items in hand. Room was paid by 3rd party, so no benefit of a refund. Would've been nice to get a voucher for a next visit, if I decide to come back to best western

« Good view when clear, dog friendly not good for quiet. »

Enjoyed a three day weekend despite marginal weather. Newport is a good location and enjoyable town for the coast, and this hotel has a fine spot just outside town. Room was clean and we loved being on the ocean side, though "balcony" was tiny. Breakfast not included, as it is with many Best Westerns, and the $5 special breaky in the restaurant looked weak. The worst part of the weekend was frequent barking next to our room. Most owners are oblivious to the fuss their dogs make when left alone in a strange room with various unrecognized noises. Since the hotel was nearly at capacity, changing rooms wasn't an option. The high price of the room added to the dissatisfaction of the noise. I hope in the future pets will not be allowed, as I would like to return for more time on the coast.

    4
    « Rather Nice Stay »

We had a rather pleasant stay at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn. I'm a "Platinum Member" of Best Western Rewards, and a staff member at the front desk took note of this and upgraded us to a room on the fifth floor with a very nice ocean view. The room itself was rather nice, and most things in it seemed to work, although my wife couldn't get the heating controls to function. All the staff members we encountered were professional and pleasant, and the housekeeper who had responsibility for our room was exceptionally nice. Potential guests should be aware, however, that there is no free breakfast for guests at this property. (We were told that guests could have breakfast in the hotel restaurant for a fee,)

    4
    « Great stay »

We had a great stay. My husband is in a wheelchair and we wanted to go down to the lounge/bar to eat and found that they had a lift for disabled that can not use the stairs which was awesome! The only issue we had was they need more disabled parking for wheelchair vans on the lower parking lot and upper parking lot.

    5
« Great Place to Stay »

Love the friendly and helpful staff. Hot tub and pool were great. Liked that I could take my dog and not worry about a sitter. Ocean view from the room was awesome. This is our second stay. Will definitely stay again!!

    « Great beach views... »

Great beach view (reserve or request it). King bed in nice spacious room with sitting area, desk with separate space for kitchen sink, micro, fridge, coffee maker. Yes, little dated but clean, in fact i found an abandoned cleaning bucket with gloves and rags in the hall way near my room when I checked in...not so inviting. Restaurant menu could use a little more variety. Every day my door key magnet had to be re-magnetized...pretty inconvenient. Parking is not next to the building, but located on 6th floor with an uncovered walkway. Why would you have an uncovered walkway in rainy winter Oregon?

    3
    « Nice location »

Located right on agate beach, this was a good place for us to bring our dogs. I also liked that we didn't have to drag the dogs through the lobby to get to our room. Over all the hotel was dated and smelly. It is going to be remodeled soon so I would probably return at that time.

    4
« Hot tub not so hot! »

The hotel is fairly nice, but it is a little dated. They have in-room coffee, microwave, and refrigerator which I have come to expect in hotels these days. The view from our room was spectacular! Looked out over the ocean. It was partially blocked by some trees, but not completely, so it worked for me. Shower was nice and hot immediately. The hot tub in the pool area was another matter. The second day we were there (Saturday) there apparently were a lot of people using the hot tub which doesn't have jets, but it does have bubblers. In my opinion this is what contributed to the cool temperature in the tub. Apparently, when the water level in the tub goes down, the incoming water is cold until it has a chance to go through their recirculating heating system which takes 20 minutes! I don't have time to wait for the hot tub to heat! I want it hot now! On the plus side, they did have adults only time from 10pm to midnight. They are going to do a complete remodel, so maybe they will be addressing the not-so-hot tub!

    « Road Trip 2017 »

We stayed one night after being on the road. Location was nice. Weather was cold & rainy, otherwise would have walked on the beach. Overall clean &comfortable. Nice little fitness room but TV didn't work, although it could have been due to the internet problems from the California fires. We were very disappointed that breakfast would have cost $5 when we were used to breakfast included at the other Best Westerns. Still a good stay.

    5

What a nice surprise. Our rooms was comfortable and clean...beds were so very comfy. We managed a 5th floor room with stellar oceanfront view of Agate Beach. The hotel is getting ready for a full remodel....can wait to come back and see how wonderful it will be.

« Too expensive for what you get. Ridiculus that you can't check in until 4 pm »

Disappointed with room. Dirty around sliding door. No screen. Balcony very small and can step across to next balcony. Furniture in room was very worn. No sink in the coffee bar. This room is more like a $90.00 room. When you get to your motel and you are tired, you can't even check in until 4pm. Don't tell me you don't have rooms available before that!

    2
    « Insanely overpriced »

We were expecting an updated, clean room for the price we paid. We normally wouldn't spend that much, but it was a special occasion. The rooms were incredibly dated and dirty feeling. I see that they are going to remodel soon, which is great, but in the current state of affairs the room should have been about half the price that we paid.

« stinky pet friendly room »

We have stayed here multiple times. This year we opted to bring our dog and stay in a pet friendly room. We were extremely unhappy with the odor of this room. I would recommend another flooring option besides carpet in pet friendly rooms. Our room also appeared pretty run down compared to prior stays.

    « Great location. »

We reserved a king ocean view room. Arrived and found that our room was not available because the former occupants had shellfish and left shells everywhere. The room required serious cleaning. We were given room 232, two queen beds, ocean view. The thing is, 232 does not have an ocean view; it is a partial ocean view, and I suspect that room 230, 228 are the same way. From 232, we had a view of trees and bushes. They moved us to room 610 which was much better. High enough to see over trees and with a great view of the ocean. The beds were comfortable and rooms have microwaves and small refrigerators. The lower level has a bar and restaurant and a pool table. We could easily walk out to the beach. This hotel will undergo a renovation beginning next month. Much needed. As with any other beach hotel, the hotel is a bit worn and is in need of some sprucing up. The staff is very kind. We were minutes from Newport harbor and minutes from Depoe Bay. A Starbucks, Safeway, Walgreens, are not far away. Perfect.

    « Great location! »

What a great hotel we discovered at Agate Beach. We were just across a small road from the Ocean and the views from the hotel were spectacular. The check in staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was delicious. Parking was free as well. Also, we had to cancel our first night as we were not going to make Newport that night due to construction delays on PCH. We cancelled around dinner time and there was no charge. Although the decor was a bit dated it was still a great stay and renovations start in October so this improvement will make this great hotel even greater - yes they are open during renovations!

« Getting Ready for an Upgrade »

We had a nice stay here and some rooms have beach views. It is a very short walk to the beach. We saw that they are getting ready renovate the hotel and upgrade to a Best Western Plus. Note that this hotel is on the north end of Newport and you'll have to drive to the historic parts as it's too far a distance to walk.

« All Around Great Hotel »

Friendly staff, gorgeous views from your room of Agate Beach and Yaquina Head make this a delightful place to stay. Added bonus of being dog-friendly (and not just on the bottom floor with a view of the parking lot - we had a fantastic view from our room). On site restaurant serves good dinners and breakfasts, and provides room service at a fee.

    « Good Value »

Enjoyed having an ocean view even when wet weather had blown in. The room was comfortable yet we stayed at several different Best Westerns one night after next. One had great view but no, breakfast, one had no view and farish breakfast and another had a semi view with and excellent breakfast, including a custom omelete. This hotel had great view but did not include breakfast. So we chose cereal in our bedroom.

We had a good experience at this hotel. We appreciate that most Best Westerns allow us to bring our dog for an additional fee. I did not think the beds were as comfortable as I am used to with Best Westerns. $5.00 breakfast in hotel restaurant was very good.

« Great location but needs renovation »

Stayed in mid September with my partner for a 3-day long week-end at this hotel which is very well located at the Agate Beach in Newport, at the edge of the beach, facing the ocean and with only a small road to cross towards the beach. Great location however the room in which we stayed in, as well as I think most of its rooms, needs a major interior renovation which I hear, is taking place during Fall 2017.

We had a great stay at the Best Western Agate Beach. The hotel is clean, the rooms are comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful. We loved the swimming pool and spa, the ocean views and direct beach access. Our room had a balcony with an ocean view and I lived out there for the long weekend we stayed. The hotel is close to the places you want to be but not directly in the center of town, so it offers a bit of privacy. We will absolutely stay again!

This is a very clean and well appointed hotel. We had an ocean view from the 5th floor and witnessed fabulous sunsets. The hotel is quiet and private with great service. « More than expected »

We got a room for the beginning of Labor Day weekend. Rooms in town were expensive and we opted to venture out from our usual stay at The Hallmark. We had read reviews and some, now that we know, are misguided. This is a nice hotel, has friendly staff, and is ideally located. Upon check in, we were allowed to do so early and even got moved to the top floor at my request. The young man at the counter was pleasant, knowledgeable, and listened well. The hotel is in good condition given it is ready for renovation and was clean. The carpet has some stains but we expect them to leave those being its two months away from a facelift. Our room was adequately comfortable, quiet, and our needs were met for towels and such. Our floor was quiet outside of a large barking dog that only sounded off twice. Once was when my daughter ran past their room at 9pm, behavior we obviously address. It was convenient being on the 6th floor with the parking lot being there. Additionally, the two elevators were quick to be at our floor and much better than most hotel elevator waits. The pool is nice, albeit busy with kids but we contributed to that. I would definitely not want to stay in the rooms on the 2nd floor between the lobby and pool though. This location is ideal for beach time. There is a Walmart next door for any needs you might have. Decent restaurants and quick fast food is close also. Honestly I feel some of the other reviews are unjustly harsh. This is a solid hotel if you are looking for a clean, quiet, location preferred stay. We just hope the BW Plus tag doesn't come with too much of a rate increase. The price of this hotel is appealing now.

My check in process was atrocious. I checked in early but had to wait almost 3 hours to get into my room. The room accommodations were excellent and very comfortable. The ocean view was marvelous. The room service dinner was very good. The bathroom was a little cramped, but clean and neat.

average large hotel with standard rooms with beach access. you pay $50 more for beach view room . breakfast is extra $5 so we skipped it. Did eat in town at La chappel which was excellent and reasonable.....best to ask for room on 6th floor as there is a walk over to parking lot there

Best Westerns are the most pet friendly hotels on the Oregon Coast. Our room came with pet sheets for the top of our beds so our dog could sleep with us without leaving dog hair everywhere. Great idea! They had poop bag disposal stations (with bags available) in the parking lot and on the path to the beach and a place to wash off when returning from the beach.

Recommend highly. Very good service, great Happy Hour food (had the hot wings and onion rings.) Rookie Bar bartender was very good and told us a lot about himself and his career. A very solid Best Western employee!

Staff is very friendly and extremely professional. This trip was pre-remodel and I look forward to seeing the finished project. The hotel is a gem and everyone should seek it out for amazing views, comfort, events and great food.

« Wonderful Hotel and Whales to Boot »

I loved this hotel and would return to Oregon just to go here. We stayed in a very comfortable room with king size bed facing the ocean with two very comfy chairs that we turned around so we could look at the ocean. I even saw a whale from my room with binoculars. The rooms were clean. The hotel staff were very friendly. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed both. The dining menu is small but everything we had was delicious and there is fresh baked bread warm from the oven. It felt like a home away from home and I don't get that feeling very often in a hotel.

« Best Hotel on the Oregon Coast »

My husband and I ended up staying three days here (at the time of the eclipse) and came back to stay another night when we got smoked out by forest fires for our inland destination. It felt like coming home when we returned. We had a very roomy ocean facing room with king bed, There were two very comfy chairs that we turned to face the ocean so we could just look out - I even saw a whale one evening with my binoculars. (Bring binoculars because there are whales that stay in the area - good viewing at the nearby lighthouse.) There is a restaurant downstairs that serves a good breakfast and excellent dinners at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly . I would go back to Oregon just to stay at this warm and friendly hotel.

    « Great Location »

A one night stay in walking distance to the beach, but an overcast day sure messes that view up. Rooms are nice and spacious with sliding outside doors. No air conditioning - only two hotels in Newport, supposedly, have air. Unlike other Best Western's, breakfast is NOT complimentary - $5 per person. According to the front desk, complimentary breakfast is a "locally owned franchisee" option. Corporate doesn't force them to offer it. Never knew this. Note in the elevator that renovations on the hotel will start 10/31/17. So some future bookings may run into construction. Ask the question reader.

    « Unexpected gem »

We booked 2 Best Western hotels on Oregon beaches and were pleasantly surprised with both. This one was adjacent to the beach and a quiet location with a beautiful beach view. The restaurant was not only convenient but tasty as well. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this hotel!

« Nice place but not suitable for vegetarians »

Visited with my grandad for the eclipse. Staff are very nice and friendly especially in the restaurant. The pool and hot tub are very nice. They have a small gym but the treadmill didnt work during my 3 day visit. The rooms are comfortable however our bath tub would fill up during a shower. The location of Agate beach is ideal with great views. My main complaint is that they do not serve any vegetarian dishes in their restaurant unless you are happy with a salad without dressing. Nowadays there really should be a vegetarian option.

    3
« A stop for our road trip »

We took a road trip down to Oregon Coast and best eastern agate beach inn was one of our stops. Beautiful view from the hotel located by the beach. Crazy sand dunes and views of lighthouses. It is a windy place and don't plant to get in the ocean unless you have a wet suit.

    3
    « Only OK »

When we arrived we'd been on the road for over 8 hours. I checked in asking for 3 keys. Not one of them worked! I had to return to the desk two more times before they were able to get the keys to work. There was no air conditioning in the rooms which is typically not an issue on the coast except there were no screens on the sliding doors so opening them up for fresh air wasn't an option. The room was hot, stuffy and uncomfortable even after they provided us with a small fan. When I addressed these issues they told me they were undergoing an upgrade soon and these problems would be addressed during the process. The beach is beautiful so I will stay at this property in the future but not until the upgrade has been completed.

« A rare interior corridor hotel on the coast! »

Made my reservation for this hotel in May. We were spending 9 days along the coast from Brookings up to Newport. I made reservations at multiple BW along the coast. This one looked nice from the photos of the lobby and the rooms. Upon arrival I was surprised to find out there was no AC. I know, I know, its the Oregon Coast who needs AC. Well, it can still get muggy and humid in a hotel room even though the daytime temps might only reach 65 degrees. The hotel is maybe, 700 feet from the water. The keycard locks are old and the readers didnt always work well. The rooms were clean but tired and ready for an overhaul. The front desk informed me that they are starting a remodel in November 2017, which will upgrade the whole hotel to a BW Plus and the rooms will get a much needed update, remodel and AC! When I asked about the rates after the remodel, they said about $10 per night more. Will try this place again after the remodel.

    3
« Beautiful location, good service, tired hotel »

We liked the location, but the facility is tired. Having said that, and to be fair, renovation/remodeling is scheduled to begin in November of this year. Windows will be replaced with double pane windows, carpet I am assuming will be replaced, and so on. The location is ideal, the staff friendly, and the restaurant personnel were top notch, especially Barbara. She was delightful!

    5
    « Worth the price »

Was concerned about the price, but it was worth it. Pet friendly room was clean and not-smelling. 6th floor room had a great view of the beach. Also, close to dog relief area. Restaurant food was good and as long as you stayed on the premise you could go without worrying about pet.

    4
« Great place to stay, right at the beach »

My husband and I have stayed here a couple times. The hotel staff are friendly. There's a restaurant on site but we didn't eat there. The rooms don't have AC but it was cool enough that we just opened the sliding door and all was good. The decor is a little worn but the place is scheduled for a remodel in November. The room (two queens) was decent sized, everything was clean. Parking is substantial so no problem there. There was ice and vending on each floor I believe. Beds were comfortable. The beach is across the street which was nice and there is a park next door. The pool looked nice but we didn't use it. The price we paid was fair considering we were right at the beach. In case you leave something behind there is a Walmart next door.

    4
« Hotel by the beach »

Hotel is nice and clean, just a walk across to get on to Agate Beach. We did not like our room because it was right under the walking bridge where you hear door closing and luggage dragging. Our beds were soft and sagged in the middle. Otherwise, overall good.

« great view, ok service »

Great hotel with ocean views. Service not the best, but good accommodations otherwise. Parking was a bit of a hassle. Does not offer complimentary breakfast, even for Diamond members. Not a great price /value overall...

    5
    « Excellent stay. »

The motel is clean and has spacious rooms. One side faces the beach. The lobby is inviting and has fire place with nice seats to sit and relax. There is beach access from the motel. There is a nice view if you are on the beach side. The other side view is good too of the surrounding woods. The rooms have siding glass door with a small balcony. The rooms are quiet. The WiFi is speedy. The beds are comfortable. There is a nice indoor hot tub and pool. The caveats: - the entrance can be tricky to find. - the entrance is right off Hwy 101 so it has alot of traffic. - Parking near the front entrance is limited but there is the main parking lot up a small hill with a skyway access into the motel on the sixth floor. - There is no A/C but opening the sliding door will cool the room off at night - However, if you're on the non-beach side then the street light shines in. Also, if your room is on the sixth or fifth floor near that parking lot skyway then people can peer right into your room. In addition, the sun rises and shines in on that side. Ocean side is the best but also hard to get. There is complementary coffee in the lobby and also in your room. There is a restaurant with nice view of the beach and surrounding woods. We ate breakfast there and it was very good. Staff is friendly and helpful.

    4
« Very Nice! Just needs a continental breakfast. »

The rooms were clean with nice views of the Pacific Ocean. I would have been totally satisfied if they offered a free continental breakfast like most hotels in this price range do. The hotel is also conveniently located right on highway 101.

« Great stay at the ocean »

Our stay was relaxing and peaceful because of the location, view, cleanliness and overall quality of the room. We will definitely return because of the excellent experience. This hotel is not a BWPlus so the room, although very good was not excellent because of the somewhat cramped bathroom, lack of a sitting balcony and no complimentary breakfast which we have enjoyed at most other BWs.

    4
« Great place to stay! »

This hotel was very clean. Pet friendly rooms were clean and smoke free. Had 2 soft chairs, table and a desk. Was very comfy room. I have stayed in this hotel more than once now. Always a good place to stay. Food in resturant is great and priced right, generous servings.

Just a single night get away. Very pet friendly, Right on beach with easy access, terrific ocean view from my room. No BW breakfast included but very good in room breakfast at quite reasonable cost and timely delivery'

« Great views, easy beach access »

Two night stay. Our room was reserved with a tree view. I asked for an ocean view and was told it was $30 extra per night. Paid the extra money and it was worth it, however we had to get a rollaway bed and that was another $10 per night. Our room smelled like tacos (not our doing). Could have used an air freshener. Quick access out to beach but note there are a zillion small sand dunes to hike over on your way to shoreline. Water cold but great beach for playing on. Breakfast good and plentiful though it's not included.

« Avoid for the next year »

This hotel has not been maintained at all and does not have Air Conditioning and our first floor room widow did not open more than a few inches and therefore was very warm and lacked ventilation. Towels are threadbare and sheets were too small for the bed and very thin. Hotel is to be modernized in the near future but should be avoided at this time (July 2017). Views are good and so is location but property is overpriced for what you get. Can not recommend at this time

    5
« will book again in the future »

The rooms and Front desk were amazing people. We had a ocean view with a small balcony to view the ocean. It was awesome and the room, bed, were great. We had room service for breakfast. Thanks NEWPORT and BEST WESTERN we hope to come back soon.

    « Great hire! »

We stayed here on our trip down the Oregon coast. Great, clean hote. Wish we had paid for a room with an ocean view because this hotel has great views! Convenient to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and tidepools.

    « R & R »

Our stay at the Agate Beach Inn included much R&R. Hotel staff were wonderful, the restaurant delicious, the pool the perfect temp. Love that you can walk right to the beach from the hotel. Minor disappointment that there were so many children in the pool the entire time - we were too tired by 10:00 PM when the adult pool hours rolled around to use it then. Would have appreciated early morning hours that were adult only. Had constant issues with the wifi. No AC, only a fan/heater.

« Has potential for greatness »

I picked this hotel because it is right near the beach and a great location. I've stayed at many Best Westerns- some great (NYC and Eureka CA) and some not so much (Athens GA and Iowa) so I had relatively high expectations for this place. I had been awake for 20 hours by the time I reached the hotel and couldn't wait to relax in an icy cold room and unwind from the day (more like pass out). It was 95 degrees back home in Philadelphia so I was thrilled to be on the Oregon coast where it was in the 60s. As soon as I opened the door to my room I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was. There was a frig and a microwave which was a plus (older, but functioning). As I walked into the room I went right for the thermostat. I couldn't wait to turn it down to the lowest it would go. The air conditioning on the plane wasn't working good and I'm always hot so being cold and comfortable in my temporary oasis was a big deal at that moment. Hmmmmm.... no thermostat. Ok- must be a wall unit. No problem!!! Walked to the opposite end of the room and all I saw was a small odd looking unit that looked more like a heater than an AC but what do I know? I pressed the down button but it wouldn't go lower than 72.... I called the front desk and she confirmed there is no air conditioning in the rooms and that none of the hotels in the area do and that they are remodeling in November 2017 and did I want a fan. Absolutely I wanted a fan! I would have take a dozen of them... I was promptly brought a fan and rather than crying I went out to eat at the #1 rated restaurant in the area Georgie's. Ok back to my room, I was one of the unlucky souls that got a balcony view of the parking lot, not the beach. The view from the hotel of the beach is spectacular. But I didn't get that view. Since there are no windows in the room I thought about leaving my balcony door open but it just didn't feel safe because anyone from one of the other rooms could hop the small railing separating our balconies and have access to my room. Forget about the potential bug entering factor, it just didn't seem smart or a safe thing to do. Especially since my room could be seen from the parking lot walkway. Ok- I know I'm sounding paranoid. Honestly, if the room had air conditioning like the hallways it would be amazing. The room was a little dated but it was fine, the bed was comfy and the wifi worked well. Even though it's a high def tv it didn't have any high def channels. I'm sure all the improvements will come in November of 2017 and beyond. The extra parking lot is a little unusual but it worked fine. The beach is a short walk down and it was really nice and I'm not even a beach person but I spent 2 hours walking on it first thing in the am. They don't offer free breakfast as a lot of Best Westerns do but they do have a restaurant. When I checked out I was asked how my stay was, and I said hot. Then I muttered ok... and the reply was "great!" I shouldn't have even said anything, but I was hot and grumpy. If you don't care about having air conditioning this may be perfect for you. I never thought to ask and I should have read more reviews first. I would have stayed in another city. I have a reservation for a Best Western in Lebanon Oregon tonight and really hope they have ac!!! I will stay here again when the remodeling is done but not before.

We have stayed at BW Agate Beach before and it does not disappoint. Great view of the beach and ocean from the room and restaurant. Can even walk to Agate Beach from the hotel. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable - great beds. Restaurant food also excellent. Staff always friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for a great ocean/beach vacation.

« Best Western Agate Beach Oregon »

Our stay at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn was a time of pleasure and relaxation. This hotel allowed us to walk from the building right out to the beach sand and water. The view from our room was beautiful also. The Crows Nest Restaurant had great food for break and dinner.

« It is what it is... »

clean bedding for every guest that checks in is not a guarantee, you need to request it. Mine were not upon checking in. No daily complementary toiletries were provided. My stay was for 4 nights. Rooms were very mediocre however the hotel plans to renovate starting November 2017. The restaurant in the lobby was great!!

« On the beach, Nice Pool, No Buffet breakfast »

Stayed here with my wife and 12 yo daughter. Great Location with direct access to the beach. Walkable from the hotel to Newport but not a short walk. There is the infrequent local bus which for very little cost serves Walmart directly next door and this is what we used when going to Newport bay. Room was large and clean with Microwave and fridge. Bathroom was adequate size. Only surprise was they do not do a buffet breakfast with waiter service and this would add to cost quite a bit. However, if you are happy with a cold buffet, then do as we did which was buy food in Walmart which you can access on foot directly from the hotel carpark. Enjoyable stay and we will definitely return as cost was good value for the location.

« Average Oceanfront Property with Great Location »

Location, location, location...this property is located on the oceanfront only seconds away from the heart of Newport, OR. Views from the property are amazing, just like most of the views you find along the Oregon Coast. Property is scheduled for renovations and upgrades soon which are needed. However, with limited chain hotel options in the area, we would utilize this pet friendly location again in the future. Rate was reasonable for the area and staff and amenities were excellent...indoor pool, lounge, restaurant, beach access.

« A Motel near the beach in Oregon »

Great place to stay with a tremendous view of the Pacific Ocean from the higher floors on the west side of the building. NO FREE BREAKFAST here! Room cleanliness had a bit of a problem. Great indoor swimming pool & Jacuzzi, but a lot of kids there on the night we stayed.

    « Shane Z. »

We always stay here when we vacation in Newport Or. They have a sports bar looking and a separate restaurant looking at the beach. They let us have my German Shepherd which is difficult to find nice places and a large dog. Most the time we bring our adult and teenage sons. The love the beach and the pool and spa. I know this is different but there is a Walmart right next to them and a Safeway and Fred Meyers not even a 1/4 mile up the road. I usually spend 7-10 days at a time here each year. I hope this helps.

    4
« Best Western Plus Gold Country Inn »

Great location and view of the Oregon coast and nearby beach. Many views, opportunities to learn about and explore natural features, good restaurants, shops in Newport area. Room had comfortable, large beds, but was somewhat cramped in the toilet/bath/vanity area. Courteous, not unfriendly, but not particularly friendly staff. No complementary breakfast as at many Best Westerns but room service and on-site restaurant is available.

    3
    « Nice Hotel But..... »

As I write this we are embarking on our third and final night at this hotel. Most of the important things about this place are fine. The beds are comfortable, the room is clean and everything works. The hotel is looking a bit dated but we learned there is a remodel scheduled for this coming late fall. Two issues, however. The walls are pretty thin so we could easily hear our rather noisy neighbors in the room next to us, however, they were quiet by 10 PM and couldn't hear them again until around 8 AM. The second issue is that they allow pets so dog barking can be heard from time to time. Unfortunately, one resident had two dogs that started barking without ceasing as soon as he brought them out of his room and pretty much all the way to the beach or wherever he took them. Being woke up at 6:30 to 6:45 AM was not pleasant to say the least. We ate in the restaurant the first night for dinner. Food was fine but don't expect much as you probably don't from most hotel restaurants.

    3
    « Large Room - Bad Bed »

The size of the room was perfect as we had a blow-up bed for the 3-year-old. But the King Size bed was horrible. I had been more comfortable in my beds in Afghanistan! The restaurant was on site, but the same waitress couldn't get out order right either day. How hard is it to get toast?

    5
    « Great staff!!!!! »

The staff here are incredible! They go out of your way to help not only you but your entire family! Easy access to the beach, great food (slightly pricy)! Truly a wonderful hotel and would go back again!

« Kids are kids lol »

Staying here for a couple nights. Just got here two hours ago. The room decor is tired with minimal nautical themed pictures. There are two dips in the king size bed where people have laid before us. The fridge makes a loud vibrating noise so we unplugged it. I called a week ago to request a room on the top floor. As Diamond Select members we are used to being offered the higher floors because of our sensitivity to noise. I specifically requested top floor here because the walls are thin and we have stayed here in the past. When we arrived, I got a room on the fifth floor, we took it since sleeping in the car didn't sound great. We got to the room and kids were running and jumping above us. We heard whole conversations From the room next door. When I called about the kids and asked about when quiet time is, he replied that kids are kids and that he would give a courtesy call. After discovering the opportunity to move up to the sixth floor was not available I expressed my displeasure at not being on the top floor after requesting it multiple times, it was met with, "we tried to get you an upper floor". I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of free breakfast, below standard bed sheets and decor, overall the relaxed level of service given, not to say that the man at the front desk wasn't courteous, but it was apparent that he was very comfortable with saying no. This does not fit with the standard best western brand, I'm sad I chose to bring my best friend on a girls trip here.

« We had fantastic views. »

Very friendly and helpful staff upon check in. They seemed to really enjoy what they were doing and that goes a long way with us. We were fortunate to get a room on the 6th floor, the same level as the parking lot via a bridge. Our room faced the ocean and we had a wonderful view of the light house and beach. The room was a nice size with comfortable beds. Wish we had stayed more than one night but next time we are in town, we will make sure to stay longer. Nice quiet location away from the traffic.

    5
« Beautiful View and Access to the Beach »

The hotel is right at the beach with a beautiful view from the room and access to the beach is right out the back. Lots of parking and lots of comfortable places to site and relax. Just minutes from downtown Newport. We really enjoyed out stay!

    « Nice Best Western »

Great pool. Breakfast NOT included, but they have $5 special in the restaurant that looked good until we saw all the other yummy stuff they offered. We had a great breakfast but it wasn't the $5 special. Somehow, I think, this is just a ploy to get you in the restaurant and then tempt you with all the eggs benedict and fluffy strawberry pancakes. The ploy works.

    « relaxing »

On our way to a wonderful trip. This made the prelude wonderful as well. I will stay here again and again it was that nice, but they need to improve on the maid service. A dirty sock was left behind from a previous guest---yuk! Makes you think what else was missed.

    « Beautiful View!! »

We stayed on the 6th floor. We could see the ocean and the light house. It was restful and amazing. The room was comfortable and clean. Everyone was hospitable. We could walk to the beach from the property! I would stay again in a heartbeat! I don't know any of the answers about kids. We had none with us. There were children there however.

    « Ocean view spectacular! »

Ocean view was spectacular!! We could see and hear the ocean from our bed. Beach access was great! Could walk to beach right from hotel and had hose to rinse off feet outside hotel. Great value for the money.

    5
    « Beach Access »

Great location and has beach access. Quiet rooms with great views and balconies that overlook the water. Friendly staff and great service. The meeting rooms are cold, but I'd rather they be cold than sweltering hot. Also, being on the water, it's much cooler here than inland, so even if it's 80 in Portland, it's still only 65 in Newport. Be prepared.

    5
    « Very pleasantly surprised! »

Used a Groupon to stay here for $95 for a king, ocean view. We were very happy with the room and would have liked to stay several more days if we hadn't needed to head home. View was great, bed was comfy, room was spacious. No continental breakfast here. Thanks for a great night!

    « Good - expected a bit better »

    « Oregon Coast »

Loved this hotel!! Clean, quiet and comfortable bed! Great view of the ocean. Cement walls = not hearing your neighbors upstairs or next door! Bar in hotel and separate restaurant with good drinks and food. Louis salad was yummy. We enjoyed the big pool which was warm and clean. They give extra time for adults in the evening which is nice for relaxing. We will definitely stay here again if traveling through the Coast. Agate beach is beautiful! Don't expect to find agates though, at least we didn't. Thank you Best Western for keeping up to our standards of comfort!!

    2
    « Just ok... »

I feel this hotel is overpriced. I did pay extra for an ocean view. But it's a best western- without the free breakfast. The lobby area is gorgeous and I was maybe expecting too much from the room. But the gold trimmed, mirrored closet doors, tiny bathroom and ancient microwave just gave the room a real tired 90's feel. This BW is trying to be a more expensive hotel, but the rooms are lacking. Unless you are going to spend hours on your one foot wide 'balcony' enjoying the view, I would pass. I'm not even sure if you can get to the beach?

    5
    « Find this place »

A well run property with beach access and convenience to local attractions. Pool is comfortable with nice view of the ocean, most rooms have a view too. The entrance sneaks up on you, then the parking lot seems odd because it's attached to the top floor of the building via a pedestrian bridge...but park up there anyway and take the elevator down to the lobby to check in. It was a very restful stay for us while enjoying the Oregon Coast Aquarium and other interests in Newport.

« traeling along the coast »

We had a great room on the 6th floor overlooking the ocean. Ahhhhh ~ moved the chairs around to face the window and popped a bottle of wine! Ate at the restaurant and had a fine dinner. Our server, Piero(?) was awesome. Hotel was quit and clean. We enjoyed our stay and will return.

« Exactly what we hoped for »

I purchased a 2 night, midweek package through Groupon after I researched the Agate Beach Best Western on Tripadvisor. We were pleased the minute we entered the lobby. Checking in was very fast and efficient. I've never seen elevators that arrived within seconds. Our room was spacious, clean and had all the amenities we needed. I very much appreciated the fact that the whole wall ocean side was all window and sliding door. And the comfortable easy chairs are perfect for enjoying the view. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is that the balcony is too narrow for sitting. We were impressed that there were many sitting areas so that the occupants on the parking lot side could still enjoy watching the waves roll in. We enjoyed the Starfish Grill for both dinner and breakfast and the bar's outdoor deck for lunch. I can recommend both.

    « Resort-like Hidden Gem »

Felt like a hidden secret, it's so much nicer than imagined from previous reviews or pictures! We felt it from the moment we walked into the grand lobby with a large fireplace seating area, gorgeous views & then warmly welcomed by the friendly, helpful Anna. Our room was nicely appointed w/kitchen bar, fridge, microwave, comfy beds & great oceanview. The pool is warm, nice large, hot tub, both super clean with views of the forest & ocean. Love that pool is stocked with water toys to keep kids busy & tire them out. :) The beach is gorgeous & more private than the busier sections of Newport. Really appreciated they had onsite restaurants & bar, at very reasonable price, it's not gourmet, but very doable, especially with $5 breakfast specials & $4 kids meals. Friendly, helpful staff from check-in to waitstaff & housekeeping team! If you're going for business, they have plenty of open or private computer/work areas to spread outside of your room, so you don't feel so enclosed. We will definitely be back!! Other notes: The elevator is super fast and as you get off on any floor, you'll be treated to amazing ocean views from the floor to ceiling balcony windows!!! I love that it's a very child-friendly hotel, so if kids bug you, please don't visit the pool area till after 10pm for adult hours or early mornings. Don't make parents feel guilty for letting their kids play & enjoy the amenities. Enjoy it all! My only small, petty con is the complimentary lobby & in-room coffee is absolutely terrible & it's the same in the restaurant. If they upgraded it & maybe offered some fresh fruit, it would be great!!! Had to take a short walk up the street (but it was nice trail) to get my caffeine fix.

« Very relaxing and clean. »

Enjoyed our stay. We could see that it was very nice, clean and well taken care of. We spent some time in old part of Newport and just walked around, had lunch and shopped for carmel corn! We will be heading back here in late July for a family trip, and look forward to sharing this w/our kids and grandkids.

    « Good location »

Friendly staff, good sports lounge with a pretty good beer and wine selection. Nice outdoor deck, great beachfront and ample parking. Room was clean a n d affordable. Only complaint is we could hear normal conversations in the next room.

« Older hotel, but very clean »

This hotel is very close to the ocean with a great view. The hotel does seem a bit dated, but was very clean and well kept. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would stay here again and recommend it.

« Great location, will get better »

We needed a three day get away and chose Newport as the destination. We were happy to get a room for a reasonable rate at the Best Western. The hotel needs a face lift and in November it will get that and more in the mean time it still has a great location, good views The staff could not be nicer, the bar has a great view and the restaurant a $5 breakfast special that is very impressive. We at first had a king bed ocean but the BW reservation agent didn't inform me that it was a pet room. They were out of kings but we got a 2 queen oceanview that made us happy. If you can go for a 6th floor room 610 and above. Maintenance issues may be a problem this summer, We had a problem with our room lock, but with the remodel in the fall all the doors will have RFID locks and many more improvements. Meanwhile it is still a well run and pleasant well located property. Dated but comfortable.

« Great Place to stay in Newport »

Loved the view from my room of the ocean. Agate Beach is just across the road from the hotel. A lovely beach to walk on. Staff is friendly. Pool was great. Plenty of parking. Pet friendly too! Room service menu is very reasonable.

    « Sorry...not impressed. »

Room 306 they will tell you is full ocean view. Only if you stand to the far right of the room immediately at the very dirty windows will you have a substantial ocean view. From there you will also gaze out over the metal rooftop and a couple roads. We've enjoyed many full ocean view rooms, this is not one. The room smells very strongly of dog. Pool/spa had cloudy water. We passed. For the money there are far more nice places to stay on the Oregon coast.

« Any size dog allowed!! »

Going to the beach always involves our 3 dogs (golden retrievers and Weim) , and who wants to go for just 1 day, especially if you hit a beautiful day! We have discovered that most hotels limit the size of dog allowed, usually 25lb or less. Not sure of THAT logic? BW Agate Beach does not have a size limit. The "dog" rooms are always so clean, no sign of previous pets and no pet damage. We have always booked rooms on the top floor which provides quick access to the parking lot via the sky bridge. The rooms all have sliding doors to a mini balcony ( 2 feet) but it still always a lot of fresh air and a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. The only draw back is beach access. You do cross a street and have to balance on a board to cross a muddy spot to get to the ocean, but it's well worth it if you want a very nice place to stay with your furry family. Have fun!!

« Awesome for the price! »

Staff here was very helpful, especially Ann who helped explain my points on rewards and a miscommunication between another service member. While the views are not as good as the Hallmark Resort, this hotel still has one of the better locations in Newport. You can hear the waves crash when when you go to sleep at might. The room and hotel are up to date and nothing really seems dated. For the price, it is comparable to other lodging options in the area. If you use your debit card there will be a $50 incidental fee hold in your card unless you pay the charge upfront without the hold. Not a big deal as other hotels hold for a higher fee. I don't think this is the very best hotel in Newport bit it is one of the better ones. I highly recommend and that is why I am giving it a high score.

« Good location, great deals! »

I purchased our time here via a Groupon so we got a very good deal to stay here. When we arrived, it was a little startling to see how far away and high up most of the parking was from the hotel but this turned out not to be a problem at all. The parking lot is at the same level as the top floor of the hotel (6 floors I believe) and there is a concrete walkway over the lower parking lot and roadway by the reception desk that goes right into the hotel and is near the elevators. There was limited parking on the main floor of the hotel but this was full each time we looked. The view from the ocean facing rooms is very nice. The rooms are a bit dated but clean and functional including a small fridge and microwave. We did call room service to get more pillows as the king size bed only had four small square pillows. The patio door to the outside area of the room was standing room only but it was nice to get some fresh ocean air. It was a good location for our exploration of Newport and the Oregon Coast.

    « Agate Beach »

As always, we were very comfortable. The view is the best from the upper floors. The hotel room is always clean and comfortable. All of the Hotel employees we converse with are quite pleasant. This is a pet friendly place so I will probably take my dog next time.

    5
    « Great View »

This hotel has gorgeous views if you are in the back end facing the ocean. The restaurant has great food and great waitstaff. Unfortunately, there was no breakfast included, but there was a $5.00 breakfast offered every morning.

« Amazing Stay with excellent staff! »

Great place to stay! Awesome ocean view from room! The in hotel resturant was convenient and had good food, in addition to being kid friendly! Would recommend this hotel to anyone with kids, or without! Hotel is also on the outside of town so it's not so busy and it has beach access!

    « Great conference venue »

I've been here before for a conference, and this time took an ocean view room. It was spectacular. The room is nicely updated and feels safe and secure. We were happy with the dining service for the crowd. Wifi worked well and staff were gracious and accommodating.

    « Rich's Newport Review »

One would have to go a very long way to get a better view of the ocean than I had at the Agate Beach Inn. Whew! The service was stellar. Check in was okay as I had to wait for a room to be available. To her credit the front desk clerk called me when a room was available. Then meals were great. The atmosphere was very accommodating as well. Overall I highly recommend this property.

Very nice and clean hotel to spend a few nights on your road trip exploring Oregon coast. Conveniently located on the beach, close to grocery stores and restaurants. The staff is professional and super helpful. We would stay there again.

Staff, room service, the room were awevome. Unfortunately we were unable to eat at the bar due to my mother not being able to go down the steps. The view was fantastic! The view the view the view!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

« Not the greatest place to stay »

Noisy, rooms smelled, staff seemed to all be new and not very helpful when it came to information on breakfast or even where our room was and how to get to parking or the beach.. The heater did not work very well and the wifi is not secure anymore!

    « sleepless night »

Hotel was very loud, could hear through the walls and doors extremely easily. We were also woken up twice by phone calls being made between other rooms that were mistakingly being routed to our room. When I notified the front desk about this I was told that the phone lines were "acting up" due to the new internet service and that we should just unplug our phone. I like being able to sleep during my vacation, won't be staying at this hotel again.

    5
« Great Spot, Great Views »

A week here is simply not long enough. This spot is close to everything up and down the coast. Easy access, Friendly staff, clean and cozy. The restaurant food could have been a bit more edible, but their chowder was good. Have stayed here before and honestly it hasn't changed much. Yes will probably stay again.

    1
« Beware of bed bugs! »

Planned to stay 2 nights last month, but the 1st morning, woke up with bites on neck, hand and arm. Yep, bed bugs. The hotel's response? We'll get up there and spray the room! Don't think I'm going back into a room with bugs and now spray, do you?? No offer to move us ... that is until we said we didn't want to stay another night. And, no offer of anything. I ended up dealing with the corporate office, sending the horrible photos, which I won't share, and letting them know that I had been to doctor 3 times to deal with the repercussions of the bites. Too little, too late describes their handling of this situation. Only after corporate spoke with General Manager did they finally offer more Best Western points, then a refund. No Best Western points for me ... BW will no longer be on my list of places to stay. Traveling in over 35 countries, I've never had this experience. Customers will share information with friends (and the world). Hopefully BW learned that immediate customer service is the best course of action.

    3
    « Just Average »

The positive: the rooms were clean, the view was beautiful, the bedding and pillows nice, the salt water pool room was enjoyable, the restaurant convenient. The negative: the balconies are a joke with standing room only, the beds were dated and uncomfortable and we could feel hard spots and sunken spots, the restaurant food was just average, the waitress was snarky and jaded, even though we called down and confirmed the bar was open (for another 1.5 hours) we found it closed 15 minutes later... on our anniversary when we were hoping to have drinks and not have to drive. Everything left more to be desired, we will stay elsewhere in the future.

« one of our favorites. »

Always one of our favorites, we stay here most of the time when visiting Newport, OR. The place seems to grow on you and feels like we just belong there during our stay. it is close to Agate beach and Walmart. You can walk the beach to Yaquina head and, there is always the light house.

    3
    « Unwelcoming check in »

Upon check in, I was not even greeted, it was more like "all help who is ever next" not even recognized as rewards member. I asked for express check out and that did not happen. The rooms are clean, the bed and pillows are extremely cozy, we tried to enjoy the jacuzzi, but there was so much chlorine, that within 5 minutes your eyes were burning, the hotel was full, so we found limited parking, this Best Western has no free breakfast, but their restaurant does offer a chefs special for 5$ it's only 1 item, so if you don't like it, then plan to pay what I thought was a hefty price for a so so breakfast. Had some issues using points for one of my 2 rooms, and was greeted after I arrived back from dinner by a somewhat rude message on my room phone. So less then stellar service in my book. However the ladies in the morning were warm and welcoming, took care of my checkout, apologized, etc they saved this review otherwise I would rate a 2, due to lack of service, the breakfast, and the pool issuem

    « Nice! »

Love the location! beautiful view of ocean - worth the extra dollars to get a room on the ocean side. All rooms are spacious with large windows, sitting area, comfortable beds and a small counter area with microwave and refrigerator. There is a large pool and jacuzzi area. Eat right in the building at the reasonable bar and restaurant which also have great views. Nice beach for walking...not crowded...we will return...

« Lovely place to stay at the coast. »

We came to the coast for rest and leisure. The room was very comfortable. TV listing was accurate. The bed was very comfortable. We well stay here again. The location is ideal. Not too close to downtown but close enough if we want to go there. The ocean side of the hotel has a wonderful view of the beach and of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.

Hotel is nice check in stmt smoothly. Room is nice worth comfortable bed. The view from the room is wonderful. Staff is friendly and helpful. We were looking for the hotel bar in the evening and instead of just pointing any employee escorted us. I thought that was vey nice and a step above. We will stay here again.

« Great value for family »

We really enjoyed our stay the hotel is great for families I would recommend if your looking for a good seafood dinner pass the hotel restaurant and head into town though we did not have breakfast I assume it was probably good.

    4
    « weekend stay »

The hotel is clean, nice rooms. It was really nice being just across from the beach. Wish the walking path to the beach was a little safer and lit better for access at night. We paid $150 per night. They do have a restaurant but it is pricey as well. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

    3
    « Average stay »

The hotel looks like it was straight out of 1980. It has good access to Newport and a nice view of the ocean from the lobby. The room was big and clean with a nice view of the parking lot. One huge drawback is that the room is almost devoid of outlets. There were multiple outlets on the desk but no outlet available near the nightstand for a breathing machine. The bathroom was decent but the only available soap was a small tube of body wash by the sink. The pool was nice and great for families. It was also unusual for a BW not to have a breakfast included.

« Spring Break with the girls »

Very nice accommodation with ocean view. Almost done with the walkway to beach. A lot of progress from same time last year. All the rooms are nice and comfy and clean. Not dirty or dingy. Restaurant in hotel is very good for breakfast and dinner.

« Good place to stay »

The room was clean but bed was very firm. The ocean view was nice and there is close beach access. I didn't realize that the balconies were so small when I booked. There is room to stand on the balcony but not sit. The balconies are connected but separated but some bars. I was afraid to leave the sliding glass door open because someone from another room could easily get on to other balconies. We also had a little dog come though our balcony in to our room when we arrived. Average hotel. Might stay again.

    « Not a good night's sleep »

We stayed at this hotel for a treat for our grandsons during spring break. We chose Newport due to a event at the Marine Science Center. Plus my wife has stayed here before in one of the ocean view rooms for girls weekend and she never had a problem. We are diamond elite, I stay at best westerns approximately 3 nights every week. With that said it was even acknowledged at check in. My wife was not able to get a ocean side room so we had a room with no view. The room was on the small side. What got us was the beds, they were extremely uncomfortable. One bed was lumpy and the other felt just worn out. Our grandsons ages 9 & 11 opted to sleep on the floor the second night because they got such a bad night sleep the first night. My wife who is not a morning person was up and down all night and both mornings was up before sunrise just because she could not get comfortable. Pretty sad that after a day of activities that we couldn't get a good nights sleep.Needless to say by the time we got home we all went to bed early because we were all so exhausted. The hotel was sold out and I was told no room change available.

« Nice pool, good sound proofing, weird food, great setting »

Beautiful area, nice pool, comfortable room...A family with a small child was next to us and he kept kicking the adjoining room door until they took him to the pool for exercise, then he slept well! The breakfast is not complimentary. We ordered off the appetizer menu and got strange shrimp wontons with an unusual dipping sauce (not bad, just not expected-I thought they'd be fried, not steamed). We also ordered the Tillamook fondue and got a strange concoction with olive tapenade on the side and bread inside the fondue as well as on the side. As an appetizer for one, it would have served maybe 6. Don't think they had grab bars in the bath tub.

    5
« Agate Beach at its best »

We have come to this hotel for over 20 years. The location is perfect for its view and beach access. We were delighted to see that they continue to upgrade their facility inside and out to make it an excellent choice to stay for our annual beach outing.

    4
« Good experience, would come back »

Place looks nice. Most of staff were nice, off beach, nice beach view room, place was clean, close to stores, good breakfast price. Food was not bad, Tasty coffee, warm pool n hot tub. Should offer free breakfast.

    3
    « needs improvement »

toilets are to low to the floor for the average adult. The restaurant food was with no flavor. and seems to have been to slow on service. Placed order 30mins prior to the couple next to us and they got their food before us.

    « Love Oreon Coast »

The Best Western Agate beach Inn is a very hospitable hotel. The bar/lounge was a plus but we missed the complimentary breakfast Best Western is known for. The restaurant on site had very good food with room service.

    4
    « Family weekend »

We had a great stay, The staff was very friendly and helpful. The suite for kids is a little small but it worked. The pool area was nice. The hotel was a short walk from the beach. The only downfall was there was no free breakfast. But all in all it was nice.

    5
« Great place to stay inn Newport. »

We were pleased with our stay in Newport. This hotel is convenient to the beaches, and even had it's own beach access. Breakfast isn't provided. However, the $5 daily breakfast special was wonderful, and the restaurant atmosphere was very quiet and calming, with quiet music in the background.

    4
« Great Stay... problems handled well. »

Clean, comfortable room with ocean view and friendly staff. Room Service totally messed up both our breakfast orders, but removed charge from bill when told about the problem, so everything worked out well. Would stay again without hesitation.

« Sanitary pump noise huge from outside »

1 layer of glass outside wall in the room transfer a huge sanitary pup noise from outside, day and night every 10 minutes. The walls between the rooms are also not insulated well for noise. A locked door between separate units, that is not noise insulated.

    5
    « Outstanding! »

My husband and I stayed at this facility while driving the coast way north through Oregon and Washington. What a great find! We had a king room that was spacious, well appointed and best of all was right on the water. Staff was friendly and courteous. And the restaurant had a good selection and some unusual dishes. We especially liked their Bloody Mary with Shrimp or Crab appetizer and the Banana Split parfait. Would definitely stay at this facility again!

    5
    « Nice, A bit dated »

Nice BW, although it could use freshened up. The clerk checking us in was awesome and very friendly. The Hillside view is a parking lot. When reserved three weeks prior, asked for ocean view. Didn't get that, but at least with BW, you are assured a safe quite and pleasant stay.

    4
« on the fabulous Oregon Coast »

This is a very large hotel right on the beach. The rooms were comfortable, quiet and clean. The restaurant was average with a good view. The hotel was very busy but I appreciated the second parking lot off the 6th floor - made things very easy. It is difficult to spot the driveway into the hotel from Hwy101 but the location is convenient.

    5
    « Quiet and Clean »

This Best Western is just off of Interstate 15 south of Provo. The view of the Wasatch Mountains is impressive. My room was quiet, clean and plenty of electrical plugs. Staff was polite and accommodating. The breakfast has make-your-own waffles, eggs, cereal, muffins and more. The bed was very comfortable.

    3
« To beach his own »

Room was outdated (popcorn ceiling falling off) but clean. Beach side room view was beautiful and close access. Breakfast was disappointing as continental option was not available and we were told the night before by front desk staff that the $5 special offered a good variety and quantity of food. In summary the cost of the room outweighed the value.

    4
    « Lovely but Pricey »

A bit pricey with no continental breakfast. When paying these prices one would like at least a complementary piece of toast and a cup of coffee. The ocean view was excellent, but our room was directly above a construction site where the work began at 7am.

    4
« One of the Better Beach Hotels in Newport »

Across the street from the beach. Easy beach access and very good view if you have ocean side room. The pool facility is very nice, larger than most with room for parents to sit and enjoy the time with your children.

    4
« Spectacular setting for secluded beach hotel »

Beautiful quiet location above spectacular Agate beach with very good accommodations. Rooms are large and ones facing the ocean have the impressive beach and ocean view up to the lighthouse. The staff were most accommodating and helpful in knowing how to park at the 6th floor level and take a bridge back to the hotel. The restaurant has the impressive ocean view and had a large menu and service can be slow and not a place for a quick breakfast. The menu had many choices and one for low calorie was a delicious surprise - a banana-strawberry-yogurt-granolo attractive dish that was excellent We attended a conference there for 3 days and had banquets for 200 persons and had excellent selections and attentive service.

    3
« Nice overall, but noisy at top »

The hotel is clean and well-appointed. The staff are very nice and professional. this would have been a great experience but for the noise from the fans on the roof. We were in a pet-friendly room on the top floor and the noise level was really unacceptable. The staff offered to move us, but at 2am my husband was already asleep (he can sleep thru anything), so they brought up some ear plugs. I think I got about 3 hours. Once they get the noise situation fixed, this would be a perfect hotel to stay in with your dog. It is a short walk to the beach and very dog-friendly.

« Excellent help all the way around our visit! »

Our first stay with Best/W. on this trip was in Prineville Or. it was a very nice room and clean and comfortable, a very good breakfast. A nice stay all around, just passing through. Reasonable Prices. Then on to the coast, we stayed at Ocean Breeze motel a very nice place, but not close to a Rest. We have stayed at the Florence Best/w. before but this time it was out of our price range. Would like to stay there again though. Then on to Newport one of our favorite places to stay! Best/West Agate Beach!!! Where we run back and forth from Newport to Florence, beach combing and site seeing. Would always like to have a Rm. facing the beach wasn't lucky this time .We had a Great time. The weather was perfect so we didn't spend much time in our room. We stayed at the Fireside Motel a large room, the biggest Rm. we stayed in, but no l view. But closer to our road home. All an all our trip was made more enjoyable staying at Best Western. Thank You Very Much!!!!!

« Shabby Around the Edges »

Stayed for a conference - so had little choice. I guess you get what you pay for... Curtains in room were seriously ripped; windows in my room rattled and were drafty. Dead squashed fly on shower ceiling (housekeeping never saw it during my stay). Front desk staff distracted - they need better training or a desk bell! Hillside room was private and looking onto a lovely green slope. 6th floor is very convenient to guest parking.

« Disapponted in customer service, but enjoyed the area »

My issue with this hotel was that they didn't clean our room. There are instructions that if you don't want to be disturbed in the morning by the cleaning staff then to put the sign on the door, and then change it before 1pm so that you can have your room made up later, which we did. We left well before 1pm, made sure to change sign and didn't return back to our room until later that evening. First off, when we checked in there was an almost empty toilet roll left, so after 4 people using the bathroom it went fast for what was even there. Since our room wasn't made up we notified the front desk that we needed all paper products because tissue was also out. 20 minutes went by and still no one came up. Yes, we could have easily went down ourselves, but when we called they said they were sending someone up. And to be honest, when I'm on vacation and paying for services I expect a certain level of service as well. After we finally got that I called the desk myself to report our room had not been made up and they acted like they had no idea that was the case, after my husband had already let them know when we got back. So I told them we didn't have towels and the garbage needed to be taken out. They finally sent someone up with the towels and the man started to leave and I told him about the garbage and he made no move to get it so I emptied it and handed it to him while he stood out in the hallway and then my 4 year old daughter ran to the bathroom and pulled that sack out as well, which made me mad because that isn't her job to be doing. I do not think I am above such things, but as I stated, I expect a certain amount of service for what we paid to stay there. We always try and stay at Best Western because we know what to expect in terms of cleanliness and service and this time we felt let down. The staff didn't seem to care about addressing our complaint either when I told them at the front desk; once on the phone and again at checkout. My mother has a hard time getting around so we do need to spend a certain amount of time in our room to recharge and would have appreciated a fresh setting.

    « Nice Hotel »

Stayed one night, view of beach and ocean were great. Hotel staff were very nice and professional. Construction between beach and hotel was not a problem and noise was minual. Some very loud people attending some type of convention was the only negative.

    5
« Great hotel on the beach »

We stayed 3 nights, the sports bar had better food choices and service then the Star Grill. That's the only negative - great staff, nice room, and wonderful views of the Yaquina Lighthouse and Agate Beach. My second visits and I know I'll come back.

« Unusual Setting, Great View »

Right on the coast and a full service property. Terrific room with partial ocean view. Too bad it was foggy. Front desk and restaurant staff A-One. On site lounge, also. Brandy at the front desk was very accommodating and nice which the stay more pleasant.

« We Love the Oregon Coast »

Best Western Agate Inn has a great location with a view of Yaquina Lighthouse. It might be better to wait until their work on the ocean side of the building is completed to stay however. There was equipment blocking part of our view and not very pretty to look at.

« Best Western on the beach »

Hotel is in a perfect location to easy access the beach. Views from the room are amazing! Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and our bed was comfortable. Good parking and easy access to rooms.

    « Relaxing Stay »

I chose this hotel mostly because they provided ocean view rooms that were pet friendly. So many hotels require that pets be on the first floor and that often obstructs the view, so i was very grateful for that policy and the view was lovely!! The pet friendly room was clearly a room that had seen a lot of pets...which I have learned to live with since I insist on bringing my dog on vacation with me. They offer dog treats and linens that are especially for the dog. The hotel is directly across the street from the beach....but it is a long walk to the water! The staff was friendly and generous with their time...and by the way, kind to my dog, which I always appreciate.

    3
    « Nice location. »

The views are beautiful, management leaves something to be desired. Staff are all wonderful. Internet is bad, first night in was kicked off every few minutes. Needs room updates, very dark and heat is only available from small wall unit.

  • 2
    « Nice views - Stuffy Rooms »

This hotel sits on a great view of the sand beach, but that's where it stops. The rooms do not have any way to let in outside fresh air and are very stuffy. No air conditioning but they do have a miniature wall heater with filthy grates. There's no way we would turn the fan only on that unit. Managements solution was to bring a fan into the room which would only circulate the stuffy inside air. There are too many other hotels in the area to select from and this hotel does not live up to the Best Western brand.

    3
« Outdated hotel but comfy location. »

Best western Agate Beach is definately dated as far as the rooms but it is nice you don't have a town surrounding you. We booked a room about 3 months out for an ocean view on a special occasion. We checked in and later were told we had to switch rooms due to overbooking. They wanted to move us to a hillside view. I argued, to no avail, that I had booked the room 3 months prior and I was sure I had booked prior to the people that were to get our room. Made no difference we had to move. We have stayed there many times prior to this over the years and were completely dissatisfied. Made no sense us having to move.

    « Agate Beach Surprises »

We were travelling the Oregon Coast for the first time, beautiful. Unlike many, we take our chances with hotels rather than reserving ahead; can get away with that in September; don't necessarily recommend that strategy. Worked well at Best Westerm in Astoria so they got our business again as we entered Newport. Oops!....this is not that kind of hotel. Didn't realize Best Western did this; always saw them as a "budget, travellers" hotel.... Must say that the rate was good, room was fine except for covers and pillows (lacking substance) But this is a hotel designed for people wanting to stay and play on the beach...who knew? The views of and access to Agate Beach are excellent, the beach itself is excellent. It just wasn't the hotel for us, overnighters. The desk clerk wasn't exactly forthcoming when I asked about breakfast; didn't mention that it wasn't free like I thought it was at all Best Westerns ?? The Sports Bar was nice. This is a hotel more suited to a conference than passing through.

« Best way to visit the North Oregon Coast »

The hotel is located just off the North edge of a prospering Historic Oregon Coast town. The site is near the main Costal Highway, but on the very quiet side, facing the Ocean Beaches. The facility is above any Tsunami Zone, with a good view of the Sea, the Surf, the Beach and the forest. There is a quite good Restaurant on location. Within blocks of any goods or services and visits to historical businesses, and one of the Worlds great Aquariums. Sunsets are spectacular as is any "walk on the beach". It is a very good open, off leash pet exercise too.

    3
    « Lacks in amenities »

The price was excessive as there was no breakfast, old worn décor, a long walk to the beach and hallways often smelling like dogs. The dogs should be kept to one floor as not everyone likes pets on a get away.

    « Awesome »

Beautiful view and awesome time spent with friends. Was a great place to stay and walk the beach along with driving to other places of interest. I would recommend the hotel and area to friends and family as it was beautiful. The Oregon coast in this area is so nice

    « Beautiful »

Lovely hotel. Spent the extra monies and had a gorgeous view of the ocean. The king sized bed was very comfortable Peaceful and relaxing hotel. Will definitely stay again. Only down side is there's no complimentary breakfast

    3
    « Just OK »

Just OK. Good location but noisy. Lots of noisy people. If you're looking for a good hotel on/near the beach in Newport try the Hallmark a little further south. It's more expensive but rated higher by those regulars I spoke to.

    « Not impressed »

We liked the looks of this hotel via pix online. We we were just passing through Newport. Sadly- not impressed. Gave us the worst room ever. 5th fl corner room below bridge to parking lot. Heard suitcases wheels all night. Tear in curtains. Very dated. In need of a refresh. And should put that horrible 5th floor room out of order for good.

    5
    « Beautiful location »

The hotel is located overlooking a beautiful beach just north of Newport - an excellent location. The restaurant food was also excellent and service was good, with the exception of a very confused breakfast staff one morning. There was no complimentary breakfast at this Best Western in contrast to most, but the menu selections were reasonably priced. The rooms and beds were comfortable as expected and the staff friendly.

    « Good »

We stayed here one night on our trip down Route 101. This hotel is much bigger than most Best Western . It is well positioned by the Ocean and it has a restaurant . The rooms are big and very clean. It felt less personal than many BW s we've stayed at.

    3
    « Pretty nice place »

There's direct ocean view rooms available at a nominal price over hillside views. Get one of these. Only issue with our room was there's a construction site on the edge of the grounds. Our room looked directly at/over that site. Cannot that be hidden a bit somehow? Also, the path from the hotel to the beach goes by this site. Hotel is a bit dated, and lobby very boring, restaurant and bar could use a makeover, but these again look out to the ocean. So, the hotel represents a pretty good value if you want ocean views at a reasonable price. It's a few miles North of Newport's downtown, and tourist areas but very near the lighthouse (also good view of the lighthouse from the oceanview rooms). I comment that we had a top floor room, not sure how good the view would be from say the first or second floor, be sure to check, first floor may be blocked, and second floor as well.

    « View »

Another very good Bestwestern. Nicely appointed rooms and amenities, busy, efficient, no free breakfast like most, but a restaurant that did serve a very good breakfast. If you are lucky enough to get a ocean view side it is absolutely spectacular. We would differently stay here again.

« Great Coast Views! What more can you ask for »

I stayed here for one night and to start off the location of this hotel is north of the main part of Newport so to get to the downtown area or the Oregon Coast Aquarium you would have to drive to it but its a short and easy drive. Upon check in was quick and easy with friendly staff. and the elevators were just around the corner from the check in desk. Once we got to the room, which was a coast view, it was quite a surprise to have a great view of the water with a small balcony. The bed was a great size with a small desk and two chairs. Along with a good size TV, microwave and fridge. For anybody looking for a hotel that's not to expensive and has a good view I would recommend this hotel

Long day on road, got a deal on oceanfront ! Such kind caring funny front desk lady!??room is so comfy , easy chairs table to enjoy views of beach and lighthouse! Rockin King bed . No street noise??will stay again!!??

« Last minute booking with an ocean view »

My husband & I came to the coast for the night and made a last minute online reservation. We were able to get (the last available) ocean view room on the 6th floor and it was wonderful! The weather was beautiful so we slept with our sliding door partly open to enjoy the the ocean...

    4
    « Great Views! »

Hotel is as expected for a Best Western - beds are OK, rooms are outdated but clean, and no frills. The views were great and each room had a small balcony. I would 10% stay here again! Wish we could've spent more time here; you can walk to the beach from the hotel. One downside was no free breakfast.

« Labor Day Weekend Getaway »

The family needed one last weekend get-away before school started and Newport was perfect! Since it was a holiday weekend, most everything was booked and rates were going up. I waited one day too long and it cost me an extra $50. Total was $205 plus tax per night, so good on you if you get it for less. We packed into a double queen room (2 adults and 4 kids under the age of 8.) Tight fit, but it worked. Clean room that was adequate. Nothing fancy. I would say we had an ocean view, not really ocean front compared with the Hallmark. There is direct beach access to agate beach that's a short walk. The pool was nice and the kids enjoyed it. About the town: Everyone knows about the aquarium here, but I would recommend spending a morning at the historic Nye Beach area and getting fresh pastries from Panini Bakery. We will come back just for the sourdough! (It's where many restaurants including Mo's gets their bread!)

    « Great View »

The room had a great view of the ocean and the sunsets werwe great, The food on the hotel was really good and the staff was very helpful. The location to the beach is really close and you are also close to shopping nearby as well. I would stay here again and recommend it to a friend.

« Great hotel and location »

This hotel has a wonderful view of agate beach in Newport, Oregon. It is a full service establishment complete with restaurant, lounge, oceanfront outdoor patio, conference rooms and more. Room service is available for breakfast and dinner. The hotels pool and hot tub area is pretty spectacular too. I enjoyed the room service and bar, which has a nice selection of local micros on tap. The rooms are clean, updated and have very nice amenities. The rates are very reasonable.

« Older Property, Employees with bad attitudes.. »

By the ocean but had to hike through a construction site to get there. Lots of stuff needed tweaks/repairs and there are no screens on the windows and NO air conditioning in 6th floor rooms. Employees don't seem to like their jobs very well - the attitude showed.

    4
    « Ocean View »

We were here for three nights. At first our room was not handicap accessible, but the staff quickly remedy that. The hotel does have a full service restaurant and bar. The only issue that we had was the room is scheduled for re-model in the off season. We kept finding small pieces of the old-fashioned, popcorn ceiling flaky off. Be advised to close your suitcase when out and about. That resulted in our lower rating for cleanliness.

    5
« Home away from home »

Everyone from housekeeping to check out were friendly, accommodating and made us feel at home with friends caring for us. Hotel was clean, Swimming Pool wonderful and hotel equipped as advertised. Terrific place to stay and have some fun in the process!

« Great location with beach access »

We just got back from our week long trip back to Oregon and we stayed here two night and loved the location just north of town. The hotel is located off the highway so there wasn't any road noise and had easy access to a great beach. We'd definitely stay here again. The room was clean and very nice.

    « Family Vacay »

My husband and I took our 14 month old baby girl to Newport for the weekend and we stayed here and we had an amazing stay, the hotel staff was amazing and we liked how they provided a play pen for our little girl to sleep in. The view of the beach was unbelievable and the restaurant in the hotel was great, good service and good food!! The only thing I would of liked is air conditioner we came in on a very hot weekend and they only had a fan so that was a little disappointing. We had a great time, and we will consider coming back to this hotel.

    4
    « Agate Beach Experience »

The hotel is well suited for guests who want to be near the beach. The views are fantastic and access is a short walk across the road. The hotel needs some facial upkeep but the staff and amenities are great. We had a pet room and the only negative was a residual odor.

    5
« So easy to relax and not worry about the little things. »

After driving eleven hours across the state, it was really easy to check in and just relax. I didn't have to worry about any of the small stuff because it was taken care of. Also the placement is very convenient, right next to the beach, stores and gas stations.

« Expected a little more for what I paid »

What I liked: 1. The excellent view of Agate Beach and Yaquina Lighthouse from our room. 2. Easy access to the beach. 3. 2 Large chairs which are actually comfortable to sit in for watching the ocean or the television. 4. Good WIFI 5. Bed was comfortable. What I didn't like: 1. The inn had the atmosphere more of a convention center than a place one would want to spend the night while on vacation. 2. The staff was cordial and efficient, but a little shy of warm and friendly. 3. As my wife put it, "This place screams of luxury in some ways, and of cheapness in others." Lots of little things we find at other Best Western motels were not available here. 4. The parking lot location and access to the parking lot are not well designed. Two of the three entry/exit points are now blocked and you must drive your vehicle through a narrow space to come and go. 5. No free light breakfast is available, but coffee is available in the lobby 24 hrs. 6. Because of a convention going on, there was partying going on until past midnight, which meant loud talking in the hallways and lots of banging doors. I was willing to pay extra to get an upgraded experience for my wife on our anniversary weekend trip. We still had a good time, but will be looking for another place to stay the next time we come to Newport.

« Check in was bad »

after driving 400 miles, check in was a disaster. I was told check in was 4pm but they might get us in soon with reservations of 2 nights & they would call my cell phone when ready. We sit in front of the check in counter on the sofa & waited. At 4:30pm while watching walk ups getting checked in ahead of us with no reservations. One couple checked in with no reservations & came back down & checked back out, said their reason was, room was bad, ocean to far away, & too expensive for the room they got. Shifts were changed & some went on break with never no mention of us sitting there or staff calling my cell when room was ready. At 1 point they told us go to the restaurant & eat to kill some time. After asking a 3rd time we got our room. The Ocean & Beach is very, very far, aprox 1/3rd of a mile from the hotel. Also, don't believe the pictures of closeness of Ocean, it's far. I don't normally write reviews but thought I should share my experience. There were smokers & other things to long to mention since this is long already.

« Great location, classic Best Western reliability »

The location was amazing! Walk across the street to a huge soft sand beach beach. Be sure to catch the sunset - it is spectacular! The Hotel has all the amenities you have come to expect from the Best Western. The reliability is a comfort, especially for the families. The breakfasts are varied and delicious. But the bar and the appetizer we had left us disappointed. The service is ok, but not outstanding. Some more training, especially in the bar, is needed. We had to ask for our water. And we had to ask for the bar menu. And there was no drink menu offered. The check in desk was a bit disorganized and was unattended at times.

    « pleasure trip »

The experience from the check-in to the check-out was excellent. The room was wonderful. There was a slight mix-up on my initial reservation. They had booked me a room that did not take pets. Upon pointing this out to the staff they gave me a better ocean view room for almost the same price. The room was great, the staff was friendly and helpful to me and my dog.

    5
    « Great find »

The steamed clams were absolutely fabulous. What a find and busy. Busy, busy. Great place for all sorts of fish. Loved it. The freshness can't be beat.they have fresh fish to purchase as well as take out.

« Worst Best Western I have ever stayed at »

I have stayed at quite a few Best Western hotels and have always had a good experience. I am not a picky person and rarely complain, however this hotel deserves a poor rating. Our room was not ready at check in time, which is already very late in the day, 4:00pm. We tried checking in a little early, around 2, since we wanted to drop off our things and take our daughter to the aquarium. We were told our room was not ready, but they would give us a call if it was ready earlier than 4. They never called. We came back at 4 and the room was still not ready!! The front desk clerk told us to "go get something to eat or take a walk on the beach." Really?! We paid $225 for this room and couldn't even check in until 5pm, just to check out the very next day by noon!! Doesn't seem quite right to me. With the aquarium closing at 6, by the time we got to finally check in at 5, we didn't have time for the aquarium that afternoon. I had one very sad 6 year old little girl. Thanks a lot Best Western! They then told us that because of the inconvenience of not having our room ready, they would take $20 off the price of our room (which they did not do). I checked my account and we were charged the full price. The lobby was full of angry guests who's rooms were not ready. When we finally got our room keys, we opened the door to our "ocean front" room, to see that it was a partial ocean view and the main view was a little construction site. The room smelled musty and not like it had been just cleaned. To get to the ocean you have to cross a busy little street. The restaurant had ok food. Needless to say, we will never stay at this hotel again. I have stayed at much better in the town of Newport, hotels that are friendly and right on the ocean. Thumbs down, stay somewhere else!

    3
« Best Western Agate Inn »

Hotel needs grab bars in tub. Hotel needs to provide better view of shore line. Rates too expensive for quality of stay. Parking location made it difficult for the desk clerks to explain. Grounds and shrubs should have been in a neater condition

    3
« Drop the Best from Best Western »

The Best Western Agate Beach Inn has on the surface everything a family needs for a good hotel stay. The hotel has a very good pool/hot tub area, a restaurant on site, microwave and refrig. in room and access to the beach. However, it isn't quite up to par with most of the Best Westerns we stay at. Things are just slightly off. First, they don't serve breakfast. The rooms need to be updated. They need to clean better. Don't go cheap on the toiletries by not giving lotion. The access to the beach is a board laid over a ditch with water. A little extra attention and the Agate Beach Inn will be able to add "Best" back into their name.

    4
« Convenient location to Agate Beach (short drives to area attractions) »

Property is situated north of Newport, but look fast because it is nestled in a wooded area. Thankfully there were 2 banners indicating the turn from the 101. There is limited parking on lobby level with additional parking up the bluff, with access through to floor 6. Front desk staff was friendly & informative of property's offerings (pool, grill, bar, beach access, wifi connection). We stayed in last room on 4th floor, room 432, ocean view with sliding door to outside (only enough space to stand between railing & door) that allowed in a great ocean breeze. Unfortunately it was located right above a service entrance. The view of ocean + drifts of Agate Beach + Yaquina Head Lighthouse was inspiring. The room was expected with 2 queen beds, tv, microwave, fridge, etc. The walls were thin (or maybe lacked sufficient adjacent door seals?) as we could hear side & above neighbors easily. Parts of the ceiling texture must have fallen off at some point & ever so slight mildew growth where ceiling met walls by sliding door. The beach access is down the deck stairs, along the taped off gravel lane, across Oceanview Rd, down a muddy/gravel walkway, across 2 planks over a small stream, & finally at Agate Beach! It was totally worth it. The Starfish Grill onsite had a tasty selection, efficient service, & moderate prices for convenience. Check out was easy, front desk warm & welcoming, & receipt folio accurate.

« What a great ocean side hotel »

Beautiful ocean view, right on the beach. The food was fantastic. Very convenient to Old Town, and Docks. Stores, and many restaurant's within walking distance. Beach access from Hotel. Ocean view rooms, and lounge. Wonderful place to visit.

« Great place to stay! »

We have stayed at this motel numerous times over the past 12 years. It's got a great location with awesome ocean views. We leave the sliding doors open at night to hear the ocean roar. Love to visit here. Just walk out the back door, across a small road, and you're on the beach. It's also close to shopping, restaurants and the historic district. Nye Beach is fun to visit as are the lighthouses and Yaquina Bridge. Overall, we had a wonderful time.

« First Day of Vacation »

This was the first day of our extended road trip vacation and was probably the smoothest since we reserved in advance. Resturant was closed due to lack of personnel but ate at the bar which was fine. Breakfast was OK.

    « Wonderful Stay »

After a long day traveling and sightseeing on the Oregon Coast my wife and I checked into the Agate Beach Inn and retired to our room on the sixth floor overlooking the ocean. Nothing could be more relaxing than watching the surf wash away onto the sandy beach from high above, in the comfort of our chairs, seated before the full glass windows. We found the hotel staff courteous and accommodating. Check-in and check-out both were expeditious, friendly, and easy. The room was clean and functional with plenty of storage space, and all amenities as advertised. We didn't visit the lounge or restaurant, however were pleased with the counter area with refrigerator, microwave, and cupboard where we easily assembled a light meal for ourselves. The décor was simple and pleasing. The bed was just the right firmness. At night we slept peacefully, lulled by the sound of the surf. Again in the morning as we sipped our complementary coffee, we enjoyed the beautiful view from our room. We were reluctant to leave! It was our first time in the Newport area, but we are sure to return, and when we do we'll glad to book a room at the Agate Beach Inn. We heartily recommend this hotel to all our fellow travelers!

« Very Good Stay At Best Western Agate Beach »

Great stay, amazing helpful staff all around. Good pool size, proper H2O Temp. And top it all with a good clean all around environment. Seasonal Prices but much better than the alternatives! The location is great and pleasantly carts are available so that you can load your car onto carts wheel it into your room.

« Could have been so much more! »

Pros: Location! Great view of the ocean! The lobby was nice. Salt water pool was great! Pet Friendly. Good Rate. Cons: Rooms were small. No free breakfast (Major dissapointment!!) $10.00 for an additional cot (We travel with 3 kids often and not once have I ever been charged for a cot at a Best Western.) Popcorn ceilings - dropping fell on us all night. Terrible Wifi. I originally rated this as a 3 but decided to change it to a 2 because of the wifi. It took me 45 minutes just to write this review! There is so much going for this Best Western that with a little more effort and attention to detail you could easily rate this as a top 5 star hotel for the Oregon Coast. As it stands now you're left with wanting much more.

« Our stay at Best Western Agate Beach Hotel in Newport, Oregon »

The room we booked was not the one we were given and did not meet our expectations. Loud continuous coughing in the adjacent room kept us awake. The hotel restaurant food was not very good. The location of the hotel met our needs.

    3
    « Just ok »

This hotel shows signs of age and wear but it's clean enough and has the basics for a decent night of sleep. Parking situation is not convenient. For top floor there are 2 handicapped spots for a large lot. Surprise, they were occupied by vehicles without tags or placards. Our room had view of parking lot and trees. Nice beach view from lobby. Restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. Beach had contamination warnings for the water but ok for walking. Vast sandy beach right by hotel.

    4
« View room came with a construction site »

In general, we like this hotel--clean, efficient, pleasant; the restaurant is at least passable, rooms are well equipped and well maintained. Unfortunately, the hotel chose not to inform us that the view room we had reserved came with a full-on view of a construction site below where machinery was making a lot of noise and creating an unsightly distraction from sea and sky. The room cost nearly $200, so we found this situation unpleasant and unfair.

    « Very comfortable »

Rooms are a little small, but the ocean views are gorgeous if you stay on that side. Great value for the area. Very quiet. Beautiful beach. Hotel is north of the main part of Newport, but still a very convenient drive to shopping and restaurants.

    « Sad experience »

Front desk made promises that they could not keep, check in times, fix problems in the room. Lobby was full of people waiting for their rooms which were promised at an earlier hour. Bathroom was very small and difficult to get around in. Noise from adjoining rooms was not bad. Lounge closed at 10 PM which forced to take our drinks up to our room.

    « Couples Getaway »

When arriving to the hotel it appeared nice and clean the lobby was spacious and clean with a lot of quant seating areas which was nice considering there was some sort of mix up with our reservations. We booked through TripAdvisor and requested an ocean view room. When we checked in we got a ground floor parking lot view so this is where the nice sitting areas in the lobby came in nice. While our room was spacious and clean we didn't want to spend any time in it. Normally I can sit and stair out at the ocean for hours. The front desk said since it was a 3rd party reservation there was nothing they could do and the hotel was booked. I was told to always call the hotel direct to make reservations. Lesson learned. I would definitely recommend to purchase the breakfast at the time of booking your room. It is $5 and you get a cooked to order nice hot breakfast. The staff were all very pleasant. We enjoyed having the sports bar and restaurant at the resort. The beach is I short walk across a quite street then some sand dunes. Beautiful beach. If we would have gotten the room we requested with an ocean view and a small balcony it would have been a perfect couples getaway.

    « Great Hotel »

My children and I made reservations to stay at this hotel just a few days before we left on our spontaneous trip for a few days away from our home in the North Tacoma area. We had been to Newport two years prior for our first time, and stayed in a different hotel before that we enjoyed very much. We chose not to return to that hotel because the price listed on Trip Advisor for a room for our three-day mid-week trip was insane. It was double what we were going to be paying at the Best Western. We checked into the Agate and we were very happy with the cleanliness of the room and the kindness of the staff. There is a restaurant and a bar in the hotel and our first night we ordered room service from the hotel restaurant. I'd give the food a 3 on a scale of 1 to 5. It was nothing too impressive, although the menu you had some very good choices, but the flavor was so so; nothing to write home about. Of course there was a 19% tip included in the fee for room service added to the bill so I did not tip the person who delivered our food. Having worked in the restaurant business most of my younger life, I felt really bad about this, but a 19% charge to deliver food to the room seems like a lot and I even double-checked with the person who answered the phone to make sure that I was being charged that and told them that there would be no tip for delivery. The food was delivered with a smile and if there was something we needed the staff was more than happy to get us whatever we wanted. They have a beautiful pool and hot tub as well as a workout room. I would happily return here again as the price was absolutely reasonable. As far as ordering from the restaurant, I might be more inclined to eat out elsewhere but the restaurant food was ok in a pinch. We did not eat breakfast there, so I can't comment on that, but we did have lunch and dinner with dinner being delivered to the room and lunch in the restaurant itself which had a good view of the beach, an outdoor patio, and it was very clean and had a nice atmosphere. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice clean place to stay with updated rooms that included a microwave, a coffee maker and hair dryer as well as an ironing board and iron. One side of the hotel faces a parking lot comma which isn't so bad if you're more than three floors up. We were two floors up and felt uncomfortable leaving our patio door open during the evening so we did not. The other side of the hotel faces the beach and I'm sure if we had been on that side of the hotel we would have been more likely to leave our patio door open. I would absolutely turn to this hotel and the only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that I think the restaurant food could be better.

« Very good and simple motel woith a great view! »

A very good example of a Best Western motel. Clean and comfortable room with a fantastic view right across a small street from the ocean. Not the fanciest place on the coast but an excellent value. a short walk to the beautiful beach. If motels are your thing, this is the place.

Such a nice location. Rooms sufficient Dogs everywhere, including inside the rooms, just a headsup. Love this place ! Its super close to the beach, and though a traveler was complaining about the 2.8 board laid down to walk over a muddy part of the beachpath, we found it adorable

    « Overall, Great Hotel »

Great location, clean, comfortable and has everything you need. Provides great access to the beach. Restaurants had great food and staff was nice. « Fantastic staff. A good choice. Stay here. »

Strongly recommend because of the wonderful front desk crew....all of them. Clean rooms. Lovely beach view. Fans brought to room to block noise of pool as we were right next to it. They did the trick perfectly. Short walk to the beach. Only criticism...they do not include breakfast...they should. Don't come expecting to spend time on your balcony. They are more for fresh air and a view from inside. Balconies are narrow and do not have space for chairs. Still...do stay here. Beach is lovely. Staff is wonderful. Rooms are clean.

A large window gave us an outstanding view of the local beach and coastline. Just about everything works really well at this hotel. We managed to turn the one negative into a positive. It was surprising that such a large hotel/motel did not have a guest laundry. Nevertheless, we found a laundry nearby which did an excellent job for a very reasonable price. Good location for getting to sights and services.

« Friendly for humans and pets! »

Full service restaurant with room service and 2 fresh sheets even for Fido. Beach access 100 yards with great partial to full ocean views. Friendly staff and very accommodating. Would stay here again!!! Food was good and convenient but lots of local places to eat if needed change.

« Great place for families with kids! »

We arrived with the family to visit my husband who was in town for business. Check-in was quick (and they have a AAA discount) and we were very happy with our two comfortable, double queen rooms with connecting door. The beautiful Agate beach was literally a stone throws away and a great beach for kids to run around and play in the sand. There is a short walk way from the hotel to the beach. I especially liked the skybridge which connects the overflow lot with the hotel - it made hauling children easy to and from the car. We left early the next day to explore Nye Beach and Newport Aquarium and were grateful for the tasty coffee brewed in the room, and then noticed the complimentary coffee in the lobby (great place to stay caffeinated!). I wish we had more time to try out the pool and will be back!

    « Almost perfect »

Great location! Staff could be friendlier. No breakfast included, yet a higher room rate then other BWs that include breakfast, even when located on the waterfront. Housekeeping needs to come back and pick up room service trays with old food that have been left in the hallway. I really don't want to see another guest's leftover spaghetti the day after I arrived.

    « Great Hotel! »

I stayed at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn for 2 nights with a couple of friends. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was very impressed with the big, airy, open space and the beautiful views of the ocean. Our room was very comfortable and clean with 2 queen beds and sliding glass doors that looked out onto the beach. It was important to my friends and me that we be very close to the beach. We were directly across the street which made it easy to walk there. The food at the Best Western was very good and the servers were friendly and courteous. They had a breakfast special every morning for $5 which was filling and good.

« Treated poorly by staff. »

I made the reservation by phone around 11:30 AM with one special request: I need a room close to parking and parking close to the room - one of us is disabled and has limited walking abilities". Best Western's response was "okay, no problem". At check in (around 5:00 PM) I introduced myself and reminded the girl at the desk of my request and she said 'okay Mr. Snow I have you in room 227 and you can park on top of that hill over there and walk across that bridge to the elevators'. I asked where room 227 was and was directed to the END of the hallway (There are only two rooms further) - and "park on top of that hill"? really? I politely said that was un-acceptable and we would find a different place to stay. She said that's all she had and she couldn't do anything else. Another employee overheard this conversation and offered me a wheelchair. The first girl was surprised they had a wheelchair. We took it, we were tired and thought it might be hard to find another place. Oh, and another thing, the first girl said she had no idea why all the handicapped rooms are at that end of the hallway. We were NOT given a handicapped room. We generally like Best Westerns, that was the fourth one in ten days. Nice room, nice view, we won't be back. When I originally called to reserve a room I should have been told "sorry, we don't have anything", that would have been fine.

« Updated rooms. Fantastic ocean view »

After a day long journey up US 101 Agate Beach Inn is a welcome and lovely spot. The ocean view is spectacular as you watch the setting sun. Very tempted to extend our stay, thoroughly enjoy the stop for the evening. The recently updated rooms have very comfortable beds and a comfortable sitting area. You can turn the chairs to watch the dunes , beach and sunset.

« Beautiful location, poor everything else »

It's great that the hotel has ocean views and beach access. But I experienced very poor customer service and a general lack of caring. I would not recommend this hotel unless they trained their staff better. Rooms were not cleaned until very late in the afternoon. I called to request a couple of things for the room, and it took over half an hour to arrive. The wifi is exceedingly slow, and I was mostly kicked off of it. They were doing construction right outside of the balcony, so that was a bummer as well. No one who works here acts like they want to be here.

    3
« NICE PLACE, BUT DATED »

This Hotel is in a great location, but it's showing it's age. Rooms are old and worn, but functional and clean. We were awaken by a construction backup horn at 8am from construction being done on site. The restaurant was extremely slow and food was over-priced for the quality.

    2
« Hot in my room even with door open »

NO AIR CONDITIONING. Got that! NO AC. If you read no more of this review thats fine just remember NO AC! No other reviews mentions that, why???? I don't get it. Its 2016!! What hotel in america has NO AC? A heater but no cold air. Why I ask the desk: because we are by the ocean open the sliding glass door they say. That only works when its cool outside due to the humidity. Also only works when on the ocean side. On the street side its noisy as heck with cars driving by in parking lot and on major road 500 feet away. Its hot in the hotel too, hallways and lobby. Beds are hard and uncomfortable. There is a reason they are affordable its because they are cheap. Remember. NO AC.

    « Cozy stay on hwy 101 »

My hubby and I loved this place! Tucked in a quiet cozy hillside with beautiful ocean view. Reasonably priced with super comfy beds. Great central location too! They also have a sports bar and restaurant on site. We will be back!!!

« Good place to stay - The kind of review i wish more people would write »

I enjoyed spending a night here. It's not a 5 star but it's up on a bluff overlooking the Pacific ocean and has a lot going for it. My room (?King Ocean view room?) was ample sized, with plenty of room to walk around a king bed, two wing chairs, a desk, two night stands, a dresser with 32? TV, and a small balcony. And it looked exactly as shown on their website. Maybe not the most fashionable or luxurious, but it was clean, safe, and comfortable. The hotel was furnished in the days before everyone carried electronic devices, so there's no place by the bed to plug in. However, the desk had a 4-outlet power strip. WiFi was included and adequate. The bathroom was about average, but just outside the door was a handy counter/bar with microwave, coffeemaker, and fridge. There was no A/C, but you can open the sliding glass door and cool off the room in minutes thanks to the ocean breeze. And enjoy the sound of the surf while that's happening. And watch the sunset. This hotel has 6 floors. If you're a light sleeper that's the place to be. The rooms facing the ocean have even numbers, and those across the hall facing the woods have odd numbers. Downstairs is the Starfish Grill restaurant (B/L/D) which is moderately priced, and pretty good. Also in the lowest level, by the beach access door, is Rookies Sports Bar. This is a good, friendly place to hang out, and much nicer than some hotel bars because of all the large windows and views to the beach. There is no ?complimentary? breakfast here. Instead, the restaurant offers a daily $5 breakfast special. (On my visit, it was biscuits & gravy, a plate full of heavy food that will keep you going for a long time.) I ordered an omelet, with homemade sausage, that was quite good. To be honest, I prefer this approach to the typical ?free? buffets that kids mess up. The service was great. A short walk down a trail takes you to the beach, and to a paved walkway that goes up and down the coast. Your kids and dogs will love both. The beach is very wide and sandy. The hotel is next to the Agate Beach State Park, and has views of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. The hotel website warns of a City of Newport project that could cause noise. The city is building a small concrete building (Big Creek Pump Station) between the hotel and the beach, scheduled for completion this fall. This is far enough away from the hotel that construction noise only occasionally is heard above the surf, and they only seem to work during daylight. The work site has a small footprint, so it's a very small part of the overall view from an oceanside room. There is direct walking access to the beach across a small paved road that runs behind the hotel. The property is on the north edge of town, and hidden by woods. Fortunately a dense strip of forest separates the hotel from US101. That keeps the noise down since this is a busy highway. There are flags and signs telling you where to turn. There are no restaurants or night life within convenient walking distance; you will have to drive if you don't want to stay on premises. You can walk on side streets about half a mile south to a few restaurants, Wal-Mart, or Fred Meyer. In my opinion, the old waterfront (Bay Blvd.) is the best area to go anyway, where the fresh seafood, the marina, and several tourist attractions are located. Or check out Nye Beach. If I were going to spend a week in Newport, I'd probably look for a house to rent, but for a night or two, this hotel seems like one of the best choices compared to the others in Newport. The price is reasonable for the area. Overall, I would recommend it.

« Great hotel and value »

We had a great weekend staying there. The room was very clean and modern. The king size bed was firm and we loved looking at the ocean. It was a nice size room and very comfortable with a mini fridge and microwave. However, there are no balconies in this hotel though the pictures may look like there are. We were looking foward to sitting out there watching the ocean, but you can barely stand. We left the sliding doors open all night and enjoyed the ocean breeze. This hotel was packed with families, the pool jammed with kids and there floaties, so walk over to the beach for quiet. If you don't want to walk 200 yards and cross a small road (really just a 5 min walk) you can drive down and park. The breakfast at the restaurant was very good. We stay at a lot of Hiltons and this hotel is just as good. Locally, the Newport Cafe is good to eat at too. It's a 10 minute drive to the aquarium or museum. Thanks to the housekeeping staff, they do a great job on the room each day, making it look like you just arrived. Check in was fast too. Really worth the 205.00 a night. We will be back.

    « They try, but---- »

This hotel has great views, it's close to the city yet quiet, the rooms are pretty nice, the pillows suck and they still haven't learned to put plug in's close to the beds and the wifi crawls on and on. Been here before, threats to not come back and yet I do for the quiet. They do try, the staff is always nice and helpful and are allowed to discuss rates. Management, in the other hand, needs to learn how to manage housekeeping and run a motel. I don't even try to eat here based on past experiences, don't know if it's changed and hope it has but not going to take a chance in getting bad food again. Biggest complaint! Even though they try, they seem to be determined to mess up some how, never quite be perfect. The latest and greatest is a 4:00PM check in time. Seriously? For real? "We will call you when your room is ready, 4:45 PM. Really folks? This is simply not acceptable and a sign that no one is really paying attention to housekeeping needs and demands. Grrrrrrr Check out at 12:00 PM is a good feature, so they got that half right. Anyway, IF you decide to stay here plan on getting in late, eat first and enjoy the great views and the nice staff.

    « Awesome Service »

The people at the front desk and in Lounge took very good care of me. Dinner was excellent, great location and atmosphere. The beach was a few minutes away and you could watch ocean from the lounge. I got the best sleep that night.

« OK, but pretty worn out. »

We stayed here a couple of years ago and it was OK then. It hasn't improved any and is still just OK. We stay here because it is conveniently located for our planned activities. We'll definitely stay somewhere else next year. For the price, it was not a good value. It was clean enough but pretty worn out. It needs a thorough renovation. Most of the staff was friendly but the bartender at the sports bar was kind of abrupt. Maybe he was having a bad day.

    2
    « Never again »

There were not full sized pillows on the bed. They were more the size of a throw pillow. You can hear everything from inside your room and the staff doesn't seem to support concerns related to noise or barking dogs left in rooms. If you are traveling with a pet you will be on the 6th floor. In order to take your dog out to potty, you will have to cross the sky bridge and then a parking lot before you will reach a small patch of grass. The beach is a short walk down a rocky path, across a busy street, over two small pieces of wood that are the only thing between you and a mud pit. Then you must traverse the many sand dunes before reaching the shoreline. No AC and no screen on the door to the balcony. It was our wedding anniversary and one of the worst hotel experiences we've had. We left ASAP the next morning stressed and exhausted from not sleeping. We got an "oh I'm sorry to hear that" as they slide my final bill across the counter for me to sign.

« Nice stop on the Oregon coast »

Overall we enjoyed the stay! The kids loved the pool which was kept nice and warm. This hotel does not do the complementary breakfast. They did have a restaurant that was ok. One morning we got excellent service (my coffee cup was never empty) and ok food. We tried it again the next morning and got forgot and not great food. The hotel staff was really friendly and responsive.

« Best Western Agate Beach Newport Oregon »

Overall, a very good experience. The hotel is a little bit on the older side, but it is clean and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. And, of course, the location is awesome -- right next to the beach. This Best Western provides in-room service for breakfast and dinner -- and that is really nice for people like me are not really "morning people" and who don't really use the "free breakfast" option offered at so many hotels. Sometimes it just nice to be able to order a full breakfast and have it delivered to your room so you don't have to get all dressed up and functional to head down to a public scene before you've even had your morning caffeine!

    5
    « Great Hotel »

You can't miss if you stay here! Get an ocean view room for $149 you can't beat it. The on site restaurant isn't so great, so drive to a nearby place to eat. Great staff and great location! Would stay here again!

« average value for money »

an ok hotel. Not cheap at all, but you get good quality for that. Slow and free internet. Warm, not hot coffee in lobby - free. Counter, fridge and microwave in the room - big plus. Great view from the windows if you buy sea view. Not on the beach, but quite close. Was noisy due to construction. Nice swimming pool. Poor gym. Breakfast is not included and is expensive la-carte.

    « great view »

Be aware that there is not breakfast included with the room. I didn't realize that. For the price (I realize it's a coastal town) it should have included breakfast. They do offer a $5 special in their restaurant. Didn't try it, cheesy eggs and ham with cheesy potatoes. Didn't sound so good.

    5
    « Leisure Visit »

Hotel accommodations were very good, with the exception of the only access to water was in the bathroom...bed was extremely comfortable. That alone would make us want to stay again...restaurant was good service but lacked in a couple menu items ordered (gravy & item amounts served). Other than that I would recommend the Agate Beach Inn to friends and family.

    « Unexpected find »

We don't usually stay in Best Westerns, but ended up here as we were making our way through the coastal towns from Seattle down to San Fran. This is an older facility, but it was well kept and clean. The clerk behind the desk was super friendly and nice. I wished I had caught her name. We were able to do our laundry on site which was a huge help considering we had been on the road for 6 days and still had another 5 to go. The breakfast was cooked fresh - not like some of the other hotels that just provided a lot of pastries and some thing that looked sort of like eggs. The beach is also very accessible down the path across the road. I walked there the evening we stayed and could not get over how peaceful and beautiful it was. I walked for a long while and saw a group riding horses thru the surf during sunset. Would definitely stay here again.

    « June Stay »

For the price we paid for this room breakfast should have been included! Parking was awful! There should have been parking for guests and separate parking for those using the conference rooms. The view was great! from the balcony! not our room. Internet not so great. Our remote did not work.

« We Cut Our Stay Short!!!! »

Unfortunately, our stay at BW Agate Beach was cut short due to a multiplicity of problems: A dirty room was the worst. Beer bottle caps left on the floor, multiple pieces of plastic garbage and old toilet paper was left by housekeeping that my 10 month old baby got to before I could and put into her mouth. The decor was very dysfunctional and left you feeling uneasy. The beds were hard and there was no breakfast offered unless you wanted to pay for it in Best Western's restaurant. And lastly, we were on the 5th floor and the hot water pressure was terrible. It burned you every other 10 seconds or went extremely cold. It seems to fluctuate with the other floors hot water usage and/or when different toilets on the same water pipes were flushed. We were going to stay two nights but we left after the first night and moved to a different hotel. The staff was very helpful and apologetic, and they removed the taxes and fees (about $35.00 worth) off of our total cost for one night, but it wasn't enough to keep us there for another night. I was never more happy to leave a motel then this one, sadly.

    4
« The view is what makes it special »

My family of four stayed here on our way to Portland. We stayed for 2 nights. Rooms were spacious and clean. The view from the top floors were amazing. No free breakfast, which would have been nice. Rather than free breakfast, they recommended their restaurant for breakfast. Everything else was pretty standard.

    3
« Friendly staff, pet friendly, handicap room available »

We have stayed at Best Western's for many years and are a member of their rewards program. This was our first time to stay at the BW on Agate Beach. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and accommodating when we needed some items that we have failed to pack. We needed a handicap room that was pet friendly. The biggest drawback to these requirements we had were: 1. The double queen handicap room was very small. It did have grab bars around the toilet and in the bathtub but did not have a handicap shower. 2. We had 2 dogs with us (a 2 month old puppy and an 8 year old Dachshund). The rooms do not have an outside door from the room. To take the dogs outside, one has to either go all the way through the hotel entrance to the outside, go downstairs to where the restaurant is located to the outside, or take an elevator to the 6th floor walk over a skybridge to a parking lot that has shrubs and trees around it. The elevator is just before you would walk through the lobby so not really that much of a difference once you got that far. And if you room is far away, it is even a longer walk. I found these 2 things the most bothersome to me. I like having an outside entrance from my room to take my dog out to potty, which early in the morning, I often take the dog out in my robe without having to get fully dressed. There were 3 of us in the handicap room, plus the dogs, and my husband in a wheelchair. For this reason alone, I will not book another stay there. However, the hotel staff were really very friendly and helpful.I can recommend eating at the restaurant. We had breakfasts there and one dinner. All reasonably priced and good food and wait staff.

    « Beautiful View »

We just returned from a 3 day trip to Newport, OR. We joined family and friends there for a fishing trip. The view from our room on the 6th floor was breathtaking. The hotel was clean, comfortable and quiet, the staff was attentive and helpful. We will stay here again.

    5
« Best Western is the BEST!! »

I highly recommend this hotel, there are many in the area to chose from and we had to move to a much more expensive hotel and were sad the BW was booked because we didn't get half the hospitality from the new hotel. Staff is generous with warm friendly service!

    « Just ok »

Great location with beautiful views, but hotel could use an update - small bathrooms, could hear water running when the person next door was showering, cobwebs and dust in common areas. Beds were ok. Nice to have fridge and microwave in room and kids enjoyed pool. Was just ok.

    « Midweek Getaway »

First impression when checking into the hotel is WOW, spectacular view of the Pacific ocean! This hotel is right on the beach and the view is amazing. The hotel decor is warm, open and newly furnished. Good signage to get you around. The guest room hallways are dark and I would say this is my biggest mark against them. The rooms are large, comfortable and have a refrigerator and microwave in them. Bonus. WiFi is good and easy to access.

    4
« great place to stay »

This is a good location north of town, very close to the lighthouse. We had an Oceanview room which I recommend. There was no free breakfast but the room had a nice granite bar area with sink, microwave and fridge. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was plenty of parking. The hallway was noisy in the evening. It may have been one family with children running up and down the halls. Otherwise it was a great stay.

    « Nice hotel »

Stayed here for night on motorcycle trip with friends. Large room and very clean. Our room did not face the ocean but we were ok with that as we checked in later. Beach is very close. I normally do not eat at hotel restaurants but some of the guys did not feel like going out so we ate at their restaurant and all enjoyed their dinner and the wait staff were very good.

    « Consistently Excellent »

We have stayed at the Agate Beach Best Western multiple times and it is consistently excellent. They do NOT disappoint! The rooms are spotless and comfortable. Everything works as it should and the room has everything that you would need. The personnel are friendly and helpful. We have a dog and it is very accessible and pet friendly. Nice lounge area and a restaurant that is actually very good. The breakfasts are delicious especially. This hotel is our very favorite on the whole Oregon Coast and we will look forward to returning AGAIN!!! You can't beat the views especially from the higher levels. Love this Place!

    « An Adventure of a lifetime »

We were able to stay in an ocean front room. It was very nice. The continued sound of the waves rolling onto the shore, and the near perfect 60's temperatures made for a very peaceful nights rest. The staff was courteous and caring. $5.00 breakfast specials in the restaurant were a big hit, too.

    « Vacation »

My boy and friend and I stayed for 3 nights and wished it was 7 ..Our room over looked the ocean and was spectacular I took many pictures of the ocean in all her splendor. Our room was huge with a fridge and microwave and the bed was very comfortable It was nice to have 2 chairs but they were a little uncomfortable as they had SL sagging seats .It was a little difficult as I have breathing issues and it was a long walk from the parking lot across the Skye bridge. The room was clean The shower was OK . Not as good as other places we had stayed ..the pressure was adequate. The best feature was the door that we left open at night as there is no air conditioning. This might be an issues later in summer. There were fewer electrical plugs than I had hoped for..my boyfriend and I both had to use extension cords to plug in our Cpap.I did enjoy the table and the room service was awesome the day we tried it .the best food we could have had and I really liked the vouchers we got. Overall I would definitely stay there again

I stayed in 5 Best Western Hotels on my recent vacation and was happy with each one. The beds they have are so comfortable, very important to me. Their breakfast was perfect for me and my grandson. The staff was always kind and helpful. Internet was running well in each hotel. I really must say that it made it perfect for my 10 year old grandson and myself with the pools and hot tubs. Thank you to all that helped us

« Relaxing, beautiful ocean view »

I stopped here overnight during a trip to the southern Oregon Coast. It's conveniently located off Highway 101, near Newport, and within a short walk of the beach. The side of the hotel facing the ocean has beautiful panoramic views. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and the free wi-fi is fast and reliable. The staff is also helpful and friendly. The hotel has a restaurant and lounge. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Unlike most Best Westerns, though, breakfast is not included in the room rate. Despite that, the price was reasonable. Parking is located on top of a hill, and you actually access the hotel via a pedestrian bridge connecting the parking lot to the sixth floor. The lobby is on the second floor, but the elevator button doesn't have a second-floor button. Push the L button to go to the correct floor when you're checking in and out. The restaurant and lounge are also on the second floor.

« Great stay in Newport for running the Newport half marathon »

This motel is conveniently located to Newport. I ran the Newport half marathon the next morning and found that this motel really worked great for my needs. Some of the rooms have a view of the ocean, even if you don't have one, it's just a quick walk down the hill to beach(just across the road from the motel). My room was clean and staff were friendly. Since checkout time was noon, this worked well for grabbing a quick shower before checkout after the race!

This is a nice hotel if you get a room overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are good and everything is clean. The bathrooms are a little small, but OK. We have stayed there of many years off and on and we always enjoy the stay. The restaurant is also very good.

    « No continental breakfast »

So far, the only Best Western without a free continental breakfast. Other than that, it was a nice, clean place. The ocean side room had the most beautiful view of the beach/ocean & the sunset was outstanding. The staff were friendly & helpful. .

    4
    « No continental breakfast »

I have to say for a somewhat dated hotel, it was clean, the staff were friendly, and the view from the beach/ocean side was exceptional. Just a short walk to the beach. I was disappointed that their was no continental breakfast, they have breakfast service for extra charge delivery to the room, but most places I've stayed have a free continental breakfast.

    « Loved it!!!!! »

Great ocean view room & accommodations. Only stayed one night with the family. Enjoyed the restaurant just downstairs from the lobby, (so happy we didn't have to drive around after driving all the way there from central Oregon to eat!!!) Nice pool/hot tub, and just a short walk down to the beach! Only two bad things I could say about our experience was that there was construction going on the way to the beach (but looks like they are upgrading so probably for the better) and we had to hold down the knob for the toilet to flush in rm 600...other then those two minor things it was great.

    4
    « Spendy/But Ok for price »

No free continental breakfast. I was hoping that for the price i paid I would get at least that complimentary. And the bathtub was a bit clogged, the water was not going down fast enough when I took a shower. And the bathroom a bit small/tight. Indoor pool was great.

    « Three Star, maybe more . »

This Hotel feels like maybe a 3 1/2 Star Hotel. Sits near a beach with the down-side being far from the water. It wouldn't take much to consider this more of a Four Star Hotel. Enjoyed our time in Newport OR. I do think that this Hotel is Over-Priced. The Ocean Views from other Hotels along the Oregon Coast are in many cases far superior and at less cost.

    5
« amazing hotel right on the beach »

Amazing hotel - right on the beach! Suggest selection facing the ocean and 5th floor and above - most younger kids are on the the third and fourth floors so they get pretty noisy. Salt water swimming pool is great but needs supervision - does not look like there is any way to limit drunk college kids from being obnoxious in there unfortunately.

Had a great time at the Agate Beach Best Western. Beautiful view and comfortable bed. The hotel restaurant was very good with wonderful wait staff. The only negative was the spa had a ugly film on top when the water was still.

    « Great stay! »

We stayed here last year for Memorial Day weekend and my son loved it so much we stayed here again this year. The staff is always helpful and the rooms are nice. I love the view on the ocean side. The pool was also wonderful and I loved that they enforced the no smoking on the balcony. We had neighbors smoking on their balcony and one call to the front desk put a stop to it. I could tell some improvements to the staff and hotel had been made from last year and it really improved our experience.

    « Good Hotel »

We enjoyed our stay in Newport Oregon. This hotel was clean and quiet. The service was friendly and efficient. It's not far from a beautiful state park with a lighthouse. If you are passing through, this is a good place to stay.

    « Nice view, pool, & service! »

I came with my toddler, I booked a king with an ocean view. Great view, it was so nice to wake up to the incredible view of the ocean. It's set back further than some hotels, which I did like. Just a short walk to the beach which was very convenient with a toddler! Most of the staff was kind, the desk looked a bit over worked, I called numerous times & just got an answering machine. I have to say that a young girl hostess in the restaurant completely blew me away. She was overly kind to myself & my son which is a big deal to me when traveling. She even waited on us during breakfast when the restaurant got slammed. Give that girl a raise promotion! Also the pool! Saltwater, huge room with really attractive wooden ceiling with giant beams. Large windows overlooking lush greenery with just a peekaboo of the ocean from one angle. My son & I really enjoyed swimming there.

« nice place for the weekend »

very nice room, very good access to the Beach. This was a last minute weekend for the family. worked out very good. I will definitely look into staying here again. my only complaint is that the room appeared to only have a heater, but shut it down and opened the window. all was good for me.

Not wheel chair friendly. Beds to high. Wife slept in chair. Toilet to high for wife. Balcony almost none existant. About 2 feet wide. Besides that, it was clean and restaurant was OK. Probably would not stay there again. If not handi-capped this would be a good place.

    « wonderful stay »

excellent room, helpful and accommodating staff, and a wonderful restaurant were just a few of the amenities in this hotel we had a room with ocean view and could watch ships pass by. Also within easy drive of shopping and dining in Newport

    « Noisy Room »

Staff was excellent, but the room was extremely noisy and the ceiling had water damage (with pieces coming loose). The heater didn't do a very good job of heating the room. At breakfast, I received watered down biscuits and gravy. However, I understand that they will be doing a complete renovation in the near future.

« Comfortable with great view »

Stayed on the fifth floor with an ocean view. Able to see the lighthouse at Yaquina Head. The beach is very wide and access in down the slope and across a narrow road. Many of the families stay in the Inn made the walk there. The wide glass window was great for natural light and providing a view of the sunset. Made you feel like you were outdoors. With the window cracked you could feel the wind and smell the salt air. Decor is dated. Shower head is small and have to move around to get full effect. Everything is very clean and rug looked fresh. Bedding was practical and more contemporary. Slept very well the two nights I was there. Early and late events kept me from using the amenities. Everyone had a smile on their face including the guests. Fun to hear children enjoying themselves.

« Yes, it's a chain hotel, but location, location, location. »

We love this place. It's staff is warm and welcoming and you can ask for a room with a view and just walk outside to the beach. It has a nice saltwater, indoor pool, bar and restaurant. It accepts dogs, for an additional fee. We had a great family gathering here. Best WIFI in a hotel in many months!

    5
    « Wonderful ocean view! »

We had a nice large clean room with a great view. Good bed. Food service in motel. We took walks on the beach and visited a nearby lighthouse. Ate one meal in town down on the pier (harbor) and shopped around a bit. Had a wonderful time. Highly recommend!

« Glad you were there »

unexpected stay during business purchase I loved the quiet after a hectic day and the pool even tho I had to go buy a bathing suit. Chefs choice breakfast was great didn't have to even check the menu with my schedule. I loved the opportunity of the quiet to gather my thoughts for the next day. Great settings for unwinding.

The accommodations offered at this Best Western more than meant our expectations for our group of 35 plus. Easy access to the beach, beautiful view from our room. Ease of reaching all the amenities available within the motel.

    « Great place »

Upon check in, the front desk lady was extremely friendly and polite. She happily upgraded my family of 4 to an ocean view room, without even being asked. Our room was very clean and spacious, and the view was awesome. We even had a mini fridge and microwave. The walk to the beach was easy, and the beach was amazing. It went for miles and miles. We didn't eat at the 2 restaurants on site, but they had great breakfast specials. $5.00 breakfast for adults, and $3.00 for kids. Walmart is literally right behind the hotel, so if you forget something, it's easy to drive over to get it. We will definitely be back for another stay.

« In love with Newport »

So, I fell in love with Newport. I only stayed one night and the bed was comfy, the bathroom was spacious, we had a fridge, it was clean, parking was easy, people were nice, the short walk to the beach was fine...so yes, ya can't go wrong with this hotel! The beach was like nothing I've ever seen before and the fisherman town was really neat to stroll about. Shout out to Rogue brewery as well! Top ten towns in America for me for sure!

Very nice ocean view pet friendly rooms. Access on 6th floor to the dog area is perfect for those early morning doggy walks. The pool was great. Internet service was wonderful. Very nice staff. there is great beach access. I will stay here again.

    « Great stay!!! »

Room was big and clean, ocean view was great and worth the extra $20. It was so nice to hear the waves crashing at night. No AC, but there is always a cool breeze off the coast, so we actually got a little cool and had to close the sliding glass door at night. Staff was friendly, pool looked great but was already too crowded with kids so we skipped it. Breakfast was made to order and worth the $5. Portions were huge and breakfast was fresh and really really good. Usually we look for hotels with free breakfast, but this was an amazing deal so we didn't mind paying $5 for a fresh hot made to order breakfast!!! Yummy! Pancakes were huge and hot chocolate was awesome!!! Would stay here again for sure next time we visit the coast.

    5
    « Great Stay »

The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. The access to the beach is easy with no steep stairs to go down to get there. The food was average but filling. We took our pug with us and the "pet room" we were in looked and smelled just as clean as a standard room.

    5
    « Highly recommended! »

My fiance and I decided to stay here when we saw it on Groupon. We drove from Seaside so we got up early and arrived early. Upon arrival we got to check in early and upgraded at no extra charge! The staff was really friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. We had dinner in the on site restaurant, it was a little pricey, but good. We really enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub. Very relaxing after a long day of walking. We will return!

    « oregon coast »

clean and quiet, no breakfast, used it for a quick overnight stay I would return, the view was great, the weather the hotel has no coantrol over, but the weather was perfect, I did sleep between the sheets, which I never do at even the best of the best, cause most places don't change sheets and never blankets or covers, I prefer to pack bedding to sleep on something I know wasn't used for sex, carry my own black light just to check for clean

    4
« Great view from the 6th floor! »

Despite construction happening near the property, the view was still amazing; well with the few extra dollars. There's still easy access to the beach; only one road to cross, which didn't seem to get much traffic. I loved the fact that I could easily get to the "Beach to Bay" trail from here, as that's a fun, short hike (though if you really want to go all the way to the bay, you'll need to take an additional trail and/or a few roads). The staff was very friendly, too!

    3
« Nice place to stay »

I found this hotel to be ok. Nothing special. We stayed for 1 night, we decided on this hotel because I found a Groupon for it. Check in was easy. Parking was a little weird because you have to park up on a hill and take a little skybridge walkway across to the hotel but it wasn't a big deal. The decor was pretty average not too old but not really modern. Our room was clean which is always nice. Some of the things seemed kind of old. Looked like they did some upgrades but haven't really finished. Our view from our room was nice but they are doing construction right now so it was hard to get a nice picture of the beach without seeing all the construction. Breakfast is not offered at this hotel but there is a restaurant on site and had pretty good food. Overall we had a good stay and would probably stay again if the price was right.

    5
« I had a great time in Agate beach »

There is some construction happening here (City of Newport) below the hotel but it is still easy to get to the beach by foot. The swimming pool is a perfect temperature and I like the hot tub..great view from both. They serve a $5.00 breakfast special which was very good. On the day of my stay it was scrambled eggs with cheese and ham, toast, and cubed potatoes with peppers.

    1
« Don't go when it is hot »

With no air conditioning in the guest rooms, you will be miserable during hot weather. It is rather ironic that the lobby, restaurant and even the halls in guest room areas have a/c but the guest rooms do not. The $5 breakfast special was nice. Great view. It's difficult to be satisfied if your room is not comfortable.

    « HOTEL »

Great place to stay for room, food, view, staff, and beach access. We enjoyed the convenience to the area shopping, restaurants, aquarium, and lighthouse. Great atmosphere at hotel. Good parking. We highly recommend this hotel for anyone who likes a pleasant place right at the coast, and in a great town with many activities and conveniences.

« Great location horrible room »

I had planned a trip to this hotel using my rewards points hoping for a nice relaxing trip with my daughter. The hotel has a great location with amazing views of the beach. Unfortunately the room I was in had pet items in it (was supposed to be a non pet room), the bathroom was gross and the room was right next to the pool. I feel like my rewards points for being a loyal Best Western customer were wasted on this loud dirty room.

    4
« Great views and access to the beach »

This hotel was very accommodating with our pet that we were travelling with. We had great access to the beach and they offered a wonderful front deck that allowed us to have our pet and kids with us while we dined. And the view was great from there.

    3
« You get what you pay for »

Parts of the hotel are outdated (rooms/lounge). The doors slam (mainly because people do not know how to close a door), and because of the price a lot of families stay here so there is the constant noise of screaming children, yelling and fighting. The lounge is dirty and is in need of a good cleaning.

    4
« Good For Families in Newport »

Pretty clean room (a little small), comfortable beds, a little bit of a walk to the beach, pool is nice size, nice view of the beach which is all good for families. Downside is no continental breakfast (although there is a restaurant on site and room service) and our room looked like the popcorn sealing had some water damage and could use repair. Customer service was outstanding and both of the "downsides" did not make or break our stay.

    5
    « Great Hotel »

I can't say enough good about this The Agate Beach Best Western. The rooms are clean and spacious and the food and service at the restaurant is very good! I highly recommend it for a weekend get away. Its a great place to take kids too. It has a wonderful pool area.

    5
    « Great View! »

I've never stayed at a best western, and I was a little skeptical. However, this particular hotel exceeded my expectations. We got an ocean view room which was spectacular. Additionally, the room was very clean and comfortable. We also enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the lobby. The beach was right across from the hotel. Downtown Newport was about a 5 minute drive.

    4
    « Spring break »

Nice place, quiet and peaceful. Very short walk to amazingly beautiful beach. White sand as far as you can see. Lighthouse to North end. Lots of nice private seating throughout the hotel. Each room seems to have a very shall balcony and the door opens to allow clean fresh air flow..air is wonderfully fresh and clear here. Beds and pillows very comfortable.

    4
« Best Western Agate Beach Inn »

The Room was clean the Lodging staff met my expectations, The room was clean and quite. The location is great with easy access to Agate beach. The restaurant however seem to have declined in quality. The menus has changed and the food was not as tasty as in years past.

    4
« Pretty good for the coast »

I stayed here for a conference and was pleased with the accommodation. The room was clean but the furniture and appliances were a little on the dated and well used side. The staff was friendly throughout the hotel. If you are not getting an ocean view room, make sure that you get a higher floor so you have a bit of a view rather than the side of the parking lot hill. There is not air conditioning in the rooms, only the door that leads to a small balcony. The only real negatives that I encountered were that the meeting rooms were always cold and the catered dinner was not very good. Lunches were acceptable and the cookies were awesome. Yes there is some construction but not a huge issue. Almost forgot that the walls between the rooms are pretty thin and I could clearly hear what the people next to me were watching on television.

    « Go-to »

This place isn't fancy, or new. But it does the trick. After over 18 years camping at Beverly Beach State Park, we just don't have the time in our busy lives to camp for 10 days. It's much easier to drive down for a long weekend. We love them for a couple reasons: *Pet Friendly - My dog is part of the family and we love bringing her along to the beach. *Helpful staff - on my most recent stay I was double charged the pet fee and an extra night. Took one phone call, maybe 10 minutes and everything was sorted. A few days later my bank account reflected the changes as well. *ON the beach. Like, right out the back door and there is is. Like I said, it's not new. But the beds are comfy and the rooms are clean. I would love to see it updated, but afraid of what it would do to the cost.

    « Average »

The staff was courteous and the room was mostly clean, except for the view we paid for. We reserved a room with a partial ocean and garden view, but the window was so dirty it took away from the ocean view and there was no garden, just a view of construction and a metal roof. The room was a "pet room" even though we didn't have a pet and this was not mentioned on their web site. The TV Remote did not work however, maintenance arrived promptly and determined the batteries were dead. The bed mattress was uncomfortable and bumpy.

    3
    « Easter Weekend »

This is a nice hotel, but less than expected for the money. Anna was awesome at check-in, and the rest of the staff was great too. The pool was very cool. We were told that it should have been 85 degrees...it DEFINITELY was NOT. That was a bummer for my daughter, as she had my 5 month old grandson that she wanted to take in. Anyway the view is beautiful and within walking distance to the coast (not beach). Ask for a room on the opposite end of the hotel from the pool, and on a higher floor.

    4
    « Relaxing »

We stopped for the night after a full day of sights. We had an ocean view room on the 5th floor. The views were spectacular. Were found the rooms to be comfortable and quit. This hotel did not have a breakfast available this would not detract from our choice.

    4
« Great dog friendly destination »

Very solid hotel that is well priced in Newport. We loved that the dog friendly rooms seemed to be up on the 6th floor with easy access to/from the skybridge parking lot for unloading dogs as well as walking dogs. Wifi was strong for surfing but not strong enough to stream Netflix at night (pretty typical of hotels). Bed was very comfortable. Great proximity to the beach. Only slight negative was I wished for free breakfast.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Great rooms (ours had a stunning view of the beach as well as a view of Yaquina lighthouse), pool, service, and the location on the beach is excellent for children! We will absolutely come back here again with our family and friends!

« Very nice hotel with beach access »

Loved visiting this property. Easy access to the beach and the rooms have balcony's and beautiful views. Everything is clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub area are very big and nice. The restaurants and lounges in the hotel are nice.

    4
    « Beach Hotel Stay »

The hotel is very nice; however, breakfast is not included with the room. The shower/tub & wash basin are together in the bathroom, so someone can't use the wash basin without being in the same room with someone showering or taking a bath.

    4
« Right next to beach »

This hotel was very close to the beach, but not too close. Rooms were decorated nicely. Beds were comfie. View was great. Only problem is when we went to breakfast, we had to wait a long time to get served. They claimed that they were short staffed that day.

    « Good value »

This hotel has a great location on the beach, large rooms, friendly staff. The linens and bathroom are nothing special burdock the job. Only real negatives are the beach construction and missing hostess at the restaurant. Actually should say the disappearing hostess who saw us walking up and promptly left. We waited over 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge us and seat us.

    « 4 days of renewal!!! »

My husband has been working out of town since before Thanksgiving. Most of his stays were in a best western!!!! We have lots of points because of this. . He is finally done being out of town for a while. We needed a getaway to renew and relax. We love this Best Western property. It has everything right there so you do not have to leave. The weather was cold and stormy!!! We loved watching the weather from our room. We explored the light houses and gift shops in Newport and in Depoe Bay. We visited the casino also. It is a great get away destination!!!! everyone should try it!!!!

« Relaxing stay with ocean veiw »

We'd just spent 3 weeks helping out our granddaughter after she gave birth to our newest great granddaughter. The other children are 2,4 and 6 and have seasonal allergies that made it so they had to just look at the beautiful 80 degree Phoenix weather. High ceilings, tiled floors and exuberant joyful kids made for a noisy energy draining time. We love them AND we want to totally rest on the way home. This Best Western filled the bill. We pulled the chairs up to the open slider; viewed the setting sun, smelled the fresh salt air and then climbed into our comfy king bed. In the morning we used our coupon for a great breakfast. The clerk was very friendly and talked us into returning over Thanksgiving for their incredible buffet.

    4
« Nice hotel, great ocean view »

Hotel is nice, needs a little attention in some minor areas (cleaning the balcony windows, wallpaper peeling) but overall is pretty good place to stay. The beach view is great! The room balcony is really not a balcony at all... More of a slab to step out on. Room does not have air conditioning, so if that is a must have, this is not the place for you. Room is good sized though. Should mention they are working on the road area between the hotel and beach. Also the beach is a bit of a walk from the hotel.

    4
« Careful what room you get! »

Not the second floor! Do not have a room on the second floor. We had children running past on their way to and from the pool, laughing and calling out the entire time the pool was open. Also, know that there is a Baptist church that meets on the first floor that has amplified music and drums on Sunday morning, starting at 10:00. That might not be as frustrating as it was on the Sunday morning Daylight Savings Time started, and 10:00 was 9:00 as far as my body was concerned . . . .

    4
    « Clean and spacious »

Stayed in room 500. Very large room with king bed. Clean and lots of room to move around. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was also roomy and the extended height shower head was a very welcome benefit. Maid service was timely and quickly provided extra blankets when asked. The view from the room was a little impacted by the construction site that was at the property edge but when sitting in the room looking out the widows it was below eyesight. You could only see it when standing. Salt water pool was large and plenty of room for lots of families at the same time. Pool area was clean with good supply of pool towels.

    4
« Great location and incredible view! »

We enjoyed our long, summer weekend at this pet-friendly hotel. The rooms were clean and well-kept, the staff was helpful and courteous, and the location could not be beat. We ate a few times in the restaurant and enjoyed the food and the service. Close to everything we needed or wanted to do. We would definitely stay here again, in fact, we plan to.

    « Conference Hotel Venue »

Great hotel with friendly, helpful staff. The meeting room setup for conferences and food display couldn't be better and the price was reasonable. The beach is easily accessible and there are two relatively inexpensive restaurants in the hotel if you don't want to peruse through Newport to find something to eat.

I only stayed one night but I will be back great hotel, staff, food and a really good Margarita! It was a bit cloudy and I didn't get to enjoy the full view but I could see Agate Beach the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and of course the spectacular Pacific Ocean. I was on a photo shoot didn't have a hotel, called the hotel and they said just come and we'lol take care of you and they did wonderfull staff!

« Wish i could have stayed longer »

Room was comfortably appointed offered excellent view of the ocean. The lounge invited you to sit with friends and visit. The gym had a good selection and good quality equipment. Easy access to beach. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

    « Beautiful View »

We were able to stay in an ocean view room and Mother Nature cooperated with a beautiful sunset. The room was spacious and very clean. The staff were very accommodating. The pool area was very nice with a good sized hot tub. There is no buffet at this Best Western but the restaurant had a $5 breakfast special which was very good - huge quantity of food.

    4
    « I'll come back »

My kids and I walked in on a Saturday evening without a reservation. Unfortunately, no ocean view rooms were available, but I'm guessing this means that the hotel was simply more than 50% full, because I imagine they fill the ocean view rooms first. The room was clean and wasn't dated, the pool (always an important factor with kids) was warm and used saltwater instead of chlorine. Service was friendly and prompt. We had no issues, and will return to this hotel. While we were walking down the hall Sunday morning to checkout, a few of the doors to the ocean facing rooms were open while housekeeping was cleaning the rooms. The views were incredible. So, next time we'll get a reservation and have an incredible view. Oh, the wifi is incredibly slow. It was fine for email, but entirely unusable for streaming video or efficient web browsing. If you need to Skype into a business meeting you'll have to do it elsewhere, or use your phone as a hotspot.

    4
    « Over all nice »

Over all this hotel is nice. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. The clerk at check in wasn't necessarily rude but not friendly either. She was in a big hurry but no one else was waiting. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. If your in customer service you should at least fake a smile.

    « What a great winter getaway! »

When school was out for a few days, our family of three generations spent two very fun mid-week nights at the Best Western Agate Beach. We could easily take a path to get to the beach for a winter walk in spite of the city's construction project in front of the hotel. Our ocean view rooms gave us a full view of the beach all the way to Yaquina Light so we could enjoy seeing the ocean even when the weather turned rainy and windy. But the really big hit with the grandkids (and all of us) was the hotel's full-size indoor pool with water warm enough to really enjoy recreational swimming, and the adjacent hot tub. Both were very clean (one morning we watched the crew finish their detailed job of emptying and filling and testing the water of the hot tub one morning. They were meticulous.) Pool hours from 8 am into the night gave us plenty of time to swim several times. Although the hotel is north of Newport, it's an easy drive into town.

    5
« Incredible view, professional and friendly staff »

I stayed here for a week on business and loved every minute of it. Incredibly clean, friendly staff, and the view was amazing. I would come back here for pleasure and stay. We had several meals catered at the hotel and the food was delicious. In addition the staff was consistently polite and professional. It was always easy to find hotel staff if you needed help with anything. The bar was fun, and our bartenders did a great job with a smile every single night. When we got a break from meetings, we could go for a run or stroll on Agate Beach, which is a beautiful beach with giant surf. I loved waking up to the sunrise over the water.

    4
    « Newport »

One of the nicer hotels in Newport. Rooms need a little updating, but it is clean and comfortable. The rooms are reasonably priced. One very nice amenity, in my case, was that I did not have to limbo under the shower head! I am not all that tall at 6'2", but the shower head was at a minimum 6" over my head.

    4
« Nice view of the ocean »

The Oregon coast is beautiful. We have stayed several times at different towns. This was the first time in Newport. The Agate Beach Inn had an awesome view of the ocean. We could see the Yaquina Lighthouse from our room. Our room was clean, quiet, had a microwave and frig. WiFi was free and worked well. The bathroom & shower was nice. We spent time on the beach. I had my grandaughter along who had never seen the ocean. She was very impressed. Other relatives reserved a pet friendly room. Those rooms are the same as ours, but did not have a view and had an upcharge of $20.00. They were happy to pay it, so they did not have to leave their dog at home. We ended up having breakfast at Pig n'Pancake not far away. We would go again, and we would stay at this hotel again also. Everyone was very friendly and the price was right. Before we left town we visited the Oregon Coast Aquarium. That place is wonderful.

    « Great Place »

We have stayed at the Best Western at Agate Beach on several occasions. The facility is vey clean and the staff is most helpful. The kids love the pool and the easy access to the beach. The restaurant is very good and it is nice not to have to drive into town. Overall our experience was wonderful.

    « Mostly Good »

Rooms were average, however I did appreciated the ocean view from our 4th floor rooms. Pool was large enough, and heated. Definitely would NOT recommend the on-site restaurant. Service was poor and food was served luke-warm at best. Better off driving a few minutes to dine elsewhere.

    4
« Clean with beach view »

We have stayed here before and would recommend it. It is quiet and peaceful with easy access to beach. It would be a great place to stay in the Summer if wanting a beach side view. Great little sports bar with deck to sit out on. Rooms are clean and well decorated

wonderful service folks, great lobby and nice view of the ocean and beach from the sixth floor. Unfortunately there is construction going on down between the hotel and the beach so it can be noisy in the daytime. They have created a well defined trail to the beach.

    « Great Location »

This hotel is very pet friendly. The easy access to the beach was great! Our dogs couldn't have been happier crashing into the waves of the Pacific. The employee at the front desk had excellent suggestions on the local food scene.

    « Pleasantly relaxing »

We had a great view of the ocean and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse from our room. We utilized the fitness center and the front lobby was very welcoming. No complimentary breakfast but not the end of the world.

« Nice room with view, and free wifi »

This was a good place for us, very neat and clean. The room was large and very comfortable with a small "kitchenette" that we didn't use. The view was great and included the Yaquina Head lighthouse. Very quiet, we slept until 8am without hearing a thing. The Wifi was good and free, but there was no breakfast, so add the cost of eating out to the price. There are restaurants in the hotel, but we didn't try them. When we tried to check in, we were quoted a price over what we had seen on the internet. When we mentioned this, we were told we'd have to book it online to get that price. We sat in our car and did that using our phone, wondering why this was necessary? Other than that, a good place to stay.

« Standard hotel, great location »

The hotel itself is fine, not overly spectacular but good value for what we paid - it's a pretty standard BW, with spacious rooms and a nice pool. It's the beach location and access that make it special - a simply WONDERFUL location and view. Be sure to take the beach view, all the other rooms go out to the car park. Conference and breakfast rooms also have a good view. You may want to note that it's a bit outside Newport, and just off the main road.

    « Annual (6th) Christmas trip »

Excellent room, nice staff at Front Desk and Dining Could be better (and friendlier in lounge) Bartender was not very hospitable and didn't act like he wanted to be there or be friendly. He was on duty the previous Christmas also...same lack of friendly personality. We're considering a change of location but we have gotten to care very much for all other staff members and the hotel itself. We missed seeing Gina.

« It's the Beach view that makes this hotel »

This hotel is an average Best Western with a beautiful view of the beach. It is convenient right off Hwy 101 and we found Newport to be a charming town with a cute, small port downtown and a bit more on 101. Hotel is a bit dark and dated, but clean enough.

    « new year's family vacation »

it was really good my kids were happy and we all love the pool. the restaurant was good too and the location right next to wal mart great .we had a awesome time for the new year's eve. the weight room could be a little bit bigger or have a bowflex in there.

« Stunning views and wonderful front desk staff »

The view of Agate Beach and Yaquina Head is breathtaking, and the beach is an easy walk from the hotel. The front desk staff and extremely helpful and responsive, and made the trip special for our two girls. The pool is wonderful - large enough to swim in and fun for all ages.

« Awful stay with no working heater. »

My mom and I stayed at this hotel for one night and the heater was completely incapable of heating the room. We basically were so cold and shivering all night long that we only slept maybe two hours. It felt like we were sleeping outside. When we left in the morning and complained to the manager, her response was "we have had unusually cold winters". She did not offer to refund any money or points that we had used. She just did not seem to care. I have traveled for work for years and stayed in plenty of hotels with weather much colder than what we are in, and their heaters work just fine to keep the room warm. Do not stay here if you want to sleep warm.

« Super loud construction of sewer project between the ocean view rooms and the beach until August 2016. »

WARNING! DON'T BOOK!! There is a sewer construction project going on between the hotel and the ocean 24 hours a day. At night you hear a super loud pump draining the project and during the day you hear the pump, plus a roaring back hoe, plus the constant beeping when the hoe backs up. The hotel will say it's not their fault. They say it's the fault of the city of Newport. We were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary and prepaid for 2 rooms for a total of 8 days. We checked out of the hotel around 10 in the morning on our first day there, after talking to the assistant manager who said it was not the hotel's fault and there was nothing he could do about it. He also said he could not give us a refund because we had purchased our rooms through Groupon. The assistant manager said the construction is clearly described on the hotel web-site. HA!! Here's the description: "Welcomed improvements, City of Newport project. A beach access pathway will always be available to our guests." Hahaha!! Some warning!! We've stayed at hundreds of hotels and have never dealt with such rude and unhelpful hotel staff. AVOID this place until the sewer construction is completed in August 2016. And until then, DO NOT EXPECT a pleasant stay OR a refund.

« Decent hotel given location to beach »

The rooms were clean, but the hallways were gloomy. Parking was minimal near hotel and you had to park in the overflow area which required you to walk across a bridge to the 6th floor and then find your room from there. Construction at the time made it difficult to access the beach. Not what I would expect from a Best Western in this price range.

« Nice hotel for travelers with pets »

Very clean room, did not have any pet odors or stains on the carpet from previous pets. Cozy lobby with a nice fire for enjoying coffee in the morning. Helpful, friendly staff. Short walk to the beach, we did not have an oceanfront room but there were nice sitting areas with cozy chairs in front of floor to ceiling windows on each floor so you could enjoy the view of the ocean.

« Pretty decent stay over Thanksgiving 2015 »

I have stayed in quite a few different hotels in Newport and this one is pretty decent. I enjoyed the beautiful views of the ocean and Yaquina Lighthouse. The staff was friendly and had a decent price for the Thanksgiving weekend. I loved the pool having adult only hour, but the hot tub was a bit cloudy. My only other complaint was no screen on the sliding glass door so bugs came in when the door was open. Overall, I was pleased with the stay.

« Improvements made for an even nicer stay »

Little things made a difference: 1. Plank strategically placed facilitated crossing little creek to the beach 2. Large heated pool at just the right warmth so you didn't feel stressed to keep moving 3. Efficient and quiet elevators 4. Lighted, easy access to dog walking area 5. Coupons for Oregon Coast Aquarium in lobby 6. Easy to set room temperature 7. Prompt delivery of extra bedding 8. Pet could be left in room when we were in their restaurant or swimming pool 9. I counted over 150 vehicles in the parking lot, and the hotel and grounds were quiet except for just once some exuberant children yelled a bit. 10. Can see the Yaquina Head lighthouse

« Best Western Agate Beach, Newport, Oregon »

Stayed for a conference. Room was very clean and I was fortunate to have an ocean facing room. Quiet - easy access to parking. Food was good, but a bit pricey. This is a pet-friendly motel so there were more animals than I expected. The price of the room was very reasonable. Very close to north Newport, but far enough out that it seemed like you were in the country. My king bed mattress had seen better days, but was not uncomfortable. I will stay again!

« Could Have been better »

This location needs some help with customer service. Always seemed like we were a burden. The restaurant service worst I've had in over a year. The bar staff was at least more friendly the last couple of nights that we were there. Calling the front desk for extra blankets or pillows was a joke. We were told that it would take some time and that they would place an additional hold on the credit card for a security deposit on these (as if we would steal them). The hotel was going through a remodel so I am trying to not hold that against the stay there. I am happy to see that they were working on improving the environment.

    « Oregon Coast Tripp »

We often stay in Best Western but due to the fact we travel with a small dog most often we have to stay on the ground level and sometimes those rooms are not the best and well used but This Hotel put us on the 3rd floor with a beautiful view of the Ocean and a lovely room our only regret was that we were only their 1 night as we were headed for San Francisco we hope to someday go back their

« Agate Beach Inn, Newport OR »

This is a top notch hotel not only for it's location close to the Pacific Ocean but also for superb amenities (decor, restaurant, pool, etc.) The hotel staff was very amiable and the room service was very quick and the menue was excellent as well.

    « Pretty good »

The only reason I gave it four stars is because the bathroom wasn't as clean at I think it should of been. The pool was clean, staff friendly . I would stay there again. The waitress at the restaurant was so nice and the food was good( breakfast) . Price was good on groupon. Worth staying at

« Great View! Wonderful Staff »

The Ocean side couldnt get any better. Big wide windows to look out of each morning and afternoon. Hotel staff very helpful and kind. Probably has one of the quickest elevators ive ever been on. Parking is tricky, if hotel is full there isnt any room, so good luck finding a spot. Had multiple times had to drive around or wait for someone to leave. There was construction but only in the lobby and outside. had no bad experience with noise or clutter. Dont think its quite family hotel, seemed like many elderly people didnt appreciate how loud and playful kids were in the pool area. Had multiple older gentlemen come to me and seen others complaining because they couldn't enjoy the hot tub. Hotel staff seemed pleased with the kids and had no problem, just other people.

    « Can't beat the beach! »

Even though the Hotel was under construction during my stay, the staff and available services were very inviting and nice. Can't beat the view on the water side worth the extra $$ to be able to watch the sunset from the room.

« Great View and Close to Agate Beach »

We wanted a motel with a view and walking distance of Agate Beach. For a few extra dollars we had a nice view of the ocean. It was a short walk downhill to the wide beautiful beach. We took a long walk on the sand. The motel is located on the outskirts of town so you have to drive if you want to see Newport proper. Plenty of and easy parking for this quiet hotel.

« Great value, service, location »

Great location, value and service? Great beds, great staff. Can't ask for more! Even though they do not provide breakfast in the price, they offer a $5 breakfast special which was fantastic. Also, if you like smoked salmon, the Salmon bagel/cream cheese plate was awesome. They smoke the fish right there - so good!

    « Gorgeous Hotel »

Located right on the ocean. Most rooms have an outdoor balcony with an ocean view. Our room only had a partial ocean view but the partial view provided us with a perfect view of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse with it's light shining in the dark. Being a lighthouse buff, this was really a plus for me. Our room was beautiful with evey amenity you could want. There is both a fancy restaurant and a sports bar restaurant located within the hotel. We ate in the sports bar restaurant. The food was outstanding and the view of the ocean breathtaking! The lower parking lot is very small so use the upper parking lot which provides a bridge to the 6th floor of the hotel and the elevators are located right inside the door...very convenient. Out the back door of the 1st floor is a path which leads directly to the beach. Nice beach to walk on with more wonderful views of the lighthouse.

When I walked into the room my first view was absolutely beautiful. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were extremely helpful and cheerful. The food in the Bar was tasty and the selection was wonderful.

    « Great experience! »

The rooms were very modern and clean. All of the staff was very accommodating and friendly. Close beach access was very much appreciated. The restaurant has an excellent menu with very reasonable prices. Breakfast here was way better than a highly recommended breakfast restaurant we tried out and their lunch and dinner menus are excellent. Highly recommend it. We especially loved the ocean views from their sitting areas and the restaurant and bar. Great patio area too.

« Best on the Beach »

I stayed here for a retreat and really enjoyed this motel, it has a great location, exceptionally clean and friendly staff, pet friendly too without the "pet friendly smell". I'll definitely book this again with my family.

    « Not horrible »

Room was clean. Staff is nice. Had many issues with the card key and the 'High Speed' internet. The walk to the beach was easy. Signing a stamped receipt that says you will pay $200 if you smoke on the balcony was baloney. There was no screen on the sliding door so if you keep it open look out for the bugs. The conference rooms were comfortable and the serving staff at the conference were excellent.

    « Overpriced and overrated »

A one night stay during a trip up the Oregon Coast. Stayed there because it was on the coast and on our way. Check-in was not the best, with rather rude and snobby front desk staff. Although specific floor had been requested well in advance, was "not available", despite being a platinum BW member. Room and bed was adequet, as was the housekeeping, but nothing special. No breakfast included, but a relatively expensive restaurant. We drove into Newport and found a great breakfast for much less. We will definitely not stay there again. Views of the ocean were fair, but top floor had the only good views of the water. Overall extremely disappointed.

    « average »

it's a bed and hot shower. Clean but nothing exciting. Price was too much for what was offered. Doors slam closed, very loud and echo. It seems they cater more to groups than individuals. Not a place I will return to.

    « Nice stay »

We stayed 2 nights in a king ocean view room on the 6th floor that was very clean and comfortable with 2 upholstered chairs, a desk and chair, and a bar area with microwave, coffeemaker, and fridge. Breakfast is not included, but their restaurant has a different $5 hot breakfast special every day, or you can order off the menu. Their main parking lot is up a hill with a bridge connecting it to the 6th floor, so it was pretty easy to unload our car and roll our luggage over. The property is a bit out of town, we drove into town both nights for dinner.

« Best Western says it all--typical, quite adequate accommodations »

Only spending one night in a place when traveling really doesn't give great insights into any accommodation, especially if the motel is not particularly memorable. Parking here is odd--kind of up a hill, where their was construction and, for some reason, school buses parked. Maybe it was a public road?? There is a mid-hotel lobby with a nice view of the beach but we chose rooms not facing the ocean (there are trees, etc. between the hotel and the beach so even the more expensive ocean-facing rooms are not really ocean front). There is what I assume is a continental breakfast offered for $5 which we did not take advantage of but the breakfast was not covered in the room fee. So an OK place. Nothing wrong. Nothing great.

    4
    « Beautiful Beach View »

On the beach at the edge of town. No breakfast but the restaurant offers a daily $5 special. Large rooms. We booked the ocean view and worth every penny! Comfortable stay, nice hotel. Nye beach and historic bayfront short drive. Would stay again.

    « Nice Location »

We always stay at this Agate Beach location when we are in Newport. At the north end of town, near Yaquina Head, it is close to town, but on the quiet edge of the city. The beach is a short walk away and we love to head there at the beginning and end of the day.

    4
    « Lovely place »

Check in was good, very nicely decorated from lobby to your room. The place was full to capacity so no upgrade was available. Very comfortable beds and the pillows were yummy. The only down side is there is no breakfast offered so had to make due with snacks from our travel bag. There is one restaurant on sight but kind of expensive. Great food though. Too cold to walk on the beach, but nice to sit on the deck and watch people trying to navigate the sand dunes that arrive in the fall. The man who runs the gift shop was very friendly and nice. This was our second trip to Newport and both times the Best Western did not disappoint.

« Great location, dog friendly, excellent food and service »

This is a lovely hotel, especially if you are traveling with a dog. The rooms are dog friendly, and the beach is a short walk out of the back door. There is also an excellent place on the back side of the hotel for dog-walking, if you don't feel like going down to the beach. The best part of this hotel is the food. The Starfish Grill has excellent food!

    3
« amazing view, comfortable sleep »

This hotel offers amazing ocean views (if you request the ocean view rooms - it is worth the extra $), and has very comfortable accommodations, complete with great beds, bedding, and pillows. Spacious rooms with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. Easy access to the beach. It's an older hotel with some plumbing issues, so the sink, toilet, and shower are very slow to drain, and a bit problematic at times. The curtains are moldy, but this could be a humidity problem that is difficult to manage and perhaps the entire coast encounters. Plenty of stores nearby to pick up essentials, and historic downtown is just a few minutes south. Great location, fantastic staff, beautiful setting.
