    « Private party »

Nice venue. Good food. Music.... well that's the hosts choice ( me!) Then we have the problem... the door men. When you pay over £500 for a do and they won't give you 10 minutes to finish your drink while waiting for your taxi.... so you stand outside and watch them hoovering up the buffet that you've paid for.... had loads of family occasions here. But this is definitely the last

« Fantastic stay near beamish museum »

Stayed here for one night.was visiting beamish museum only 6 miles away plus hotel gave voucher for 25% off entrance fee. hotel is lovely..large room very modern and spacious. Bar and bistro ..lovely great food fab selection of drinks& cocktails. Staff outstanding very polite and very helpful .will defo go back again

« Two visits for bed and dinner »

We visited twice in the last couple of weeks and had simple comfortable quiet rooms at a very good price, the staff as always were helpful and accommodating with our requests. We had dinner both evenings in the Sphynx bar upstairs where the staff again were pleasant and very helpful and provided attentive but not intrusive service. The selection of food ranges from pub grub to something a little more refined to match whatever you want.

    « Avoid if driving/if theres a wedding on! »

Hotel lovely, really clean and staff are so kind and friendly. However, the website States free parking, and it's not, though it's not expensive anyway, there are only 30/40ish spaces and it's not solely for the hotel, it's a council run car park shared with neighbouring restaurants, so in the evenings it's a gamble to leave your parking space! So, onto the other problem, inconsiderate geordies. The room we were originally put in shared a wall with a bloke who would NOT turn his bass music off! Couple of talks with the reception and they were good enough to move our room to a better suite far away from him. Which we really appreciated. However! The wedding party then decended to the hotel rooms, where my husband and I are awoken by screaming, laughing and total lack of consideration for other guests on that floor at 2am. I then rang reception again and the guy was lovely enough to come and speak to them about turning the noise down. But they didn't. Rang again at 3am to be told by the receptionist he's already "told them once, I'll see what I can do". (Basically Translates as I'll do nothing, they're drunk geordies and I'm only one guy). Cannot fault the hotel and the staff. Brilliant bed, clean rooms, top location for getting into Newcastle and to the metro centre. But never again.

    « Lovely Comfortable hotel »

I was going to a special birthday party in Whickham - I only live a couple of miles away but the weather took a turn for the worse so I decided it best to book hotel so I didn't have the worry of trying to get home ! I only booked a couple of hours prior to arrival through booking .com ! I had requested twin room but double had been allocated but the receptionist changed it immediately! I was also asked for my card so that payment could be taken - I explained I'd already paid and that I had email confirmation up was told that it was a virtual payment which meant I had to pay hotel direct ! We were given a lovely room which was spotless . The beds were so comfortable! It was perfect for our needs as the party venue was only 5 minuets walk away . We had a lovely lunch in the Sphinx lounge and a really good bottle of Wine ! Following morning we both had full English breakfast served in the restaurant- there was lovely selection of cereal , youghurts , juices and fresh fruits to help yourself to , waitress took our order for Cooked food and brought us toast, tea and coffee ! It was a lovely start to the day ! I can highly recommend this hotel if you want a nice cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and good food ! When I got home I checked my bank account to find that I'd been charged twice , I rang the hotel and explained what had happened , the gentleman I spoke to checked my booking and said he could see I'd paid twice and then asked me if it was him or lady on reception who had dealt with me - ( which I thought irrelevant ) he then said a manager would ring me next day to apologize and arrange refund ! As it happened the lady receptionist called me and sorted refund not a manager ! At least it got sorted !

« gluten free snacks and lunches »

great to be able to get nice homemade gluten free soups and bacon sandwiches here at my favourite hotel at last. we often have coffee - maybe every week, now we can stay longer for snacks too. very nice staff really helpful.

    « Friendly comfortable »

What a lovely friendly hotel. Nothing is to much trouble an excellent selection of drinks and snacks in the bar. The food menu isn't huge but well cooked and presented,if it's not on the menu they will try there best to get it for you . The bedrooms are set out nicely . Breakfast is the best with every thing you could possible want or need

« Sunday lunch _ better join the locals Sunday lunch club »

Went to the bar for Sunday lunch, got there just after 12, and even though this is my wife's home town we were obviously looked upon as incommers. Soon after we took our seats in the window overlooking the valley, tremendous view btw, another couple came in and looked at us with shock. We were obviously in their usual seats. So they had to sit somewhere nearby but not with the view. We had already placed our order both pork Sunday lunch. Then the older waitress came across said hello to the other couple and placed cutlery etc on their table. Ours was still bare. Food then came out of the kitchen and the same waitress took it straight to their table, when they said they hadn't ordered pork, she turned around and said sorry for the mistake and took 'our' food back the kitchen, complaining that the wrong food had been served. It took the manager to tell her that we had ordered food too. She then showed what a great circus act she was, balancing the cutlery, the gravy and plates all in one go and serving it to our table with a scowl. Obviously her talent did not allow her to carry the apple sauce so she had placed the mini pot of apple sauce in the middle of one of the plates. After putting the plates on the table she removed the apple sauce pot and put it on the table, oblivious to the fact it was covered in gravy and made a mess of the table. She then walked off without saying anything. We had to look at other tables to see if veg was served with the meal, which there was and she returned with it. When she returned we asked if she could clean the mess she had made, so she picked the pot up and cleaned its bottom, then put it straight back on to the gravy splurge on the table which it had caused, I asked her to clean the table and replace the Apple sauce. Which she did. I asked for the manager, and her answer was he was downstairs - meaning what to the customer. Credit to the manager he did come across eventually and apologised when we explained. As for the meal, it was tasty but cold, maybe this was due to its two laps around the bar before serving. During the meal she didn't ask how the food was, even though she did visit regulars. She then cleared our table with no words. It took the manager to come and ask if we wanted a dessert or coffee. So my comment to the bar management - locals are good but new people are allowed to eat in you bar, aren't they.

    « ???? »

Perfect location. We were visiting family in Whickham. Hotel was very clean, comfortable and staff were friendly. Parking is free right outside the hotel, but very limited spaces. If you park in the paid car park (council) it is right outside the hotel, and free from 5.30pm-9.00am

    « Lovely stay »

Stayed here for a friends night out around Whickham. Never been before. Got a great deal for overnight with breakfast and a late check out. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Good view from the back although it may need to have some of the trees chopped down a little to make the view even better than it already is. Would stay here again. Breakfast was lovely too.

    « Yes...Great stay »

One night stay, fast check-in, nice clean warm room with very large bed, super view, bath & shower, tea coffee and flat screen tv. Had a couple of pints and a lovely fresh pizza in the restaurant. The only downside that would have normally not bothered me was stairs no lift, just had a new knee fitted and really suffered with steps from the car park to reception and then up to the room, not a problem but give it a thought if your less mobile. Will happily return.

    « Wonderful stay »

Just returned from our third visit to this hotel. Room on the small side but adequate bed really comfortable and big nice and peaceful but theres a few shops near hand would highly reccomend and cant wait to return. All staff really friendly too

« Wished we could have stayed longer »

Only stayed one night on a family visit but from arrival to departure we were hugely impressed by this hotel. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming, Our room was quite spacious with a huge bed and all that you would want to find,-wifi,tea/coffee,fluffytowels, decent bathroom. The icing on the cake was a delicious breakfast, - fresh strawberries, raspberries and blackberries IN FEBRUARY! All the staff we met were helpful , cheerful and friendly right up to checking out. Without hesitation we will stay here again on our next family visit

    « Sisters 50th birthday »

Stayed at this hotel the hotel itself is a great base for exploring the north east the room maybe needs an up date but it was fine fab big bed very quiet we overlooked the front street can't believe how quiet it was the breakfast was absolutely wonderful best one I've had in a long time we paid a visit to the bar while we waited for out taxi to come the atmosphere was brilliant and great food and drinks deals on offer a bottle of proccseco for £10 what an offer great base for metro centre fabulous value for money staff very friendly would definitely go back again Linda byrne

    « Really decent hotel »

Stayed for a funeral recently and must say I usually stay at Hilton or malmaison but will use this place in future on business trips. Reception very fast and friendly the junior suite nice and spacious 2 bathrooms, the food was pretty good as well breakfast does the job. The staff in general friendly and obliging the only negatives for me was junior suite on 2 nd floor no lift and a long walk from reception ask ground floor or 1st floor also lack of parking on hotel premises although council car park next to it and was cheap enough just don't get caught in it in a snow storm ?? at least the few parking bays at hotel were shovelled clear first thing. This is a great alternative especially if like me you have to drive everywhere rather Newcastle city centre certainly recommend the Gibside.

    « Gibside bistro restauraunt »

We (all old friends over 50 years) arranged to meet here for a few drinks and an evening meal, the service both in the bar area and bistro could not be faulted. Would recommend it highly. The menu was varied and we did not have to wait long to be served, we arrived at 4.30pm and left at 9.30pm. and had an enjoyable evening and will return next time we all agree to meet.

« Time forgot this hotel ,but we won't »

Stuck in the 80's however nice clean friendly and comfortable. The price was reasonable, bathroom quite modern. We didn't try any of the facility as we only stayed one night. We will use it again for family visiting.

    « Night away/Xmas shopping »

Quite hotel Very clean Off site parking across the street Friendly staff We stayed here as a base to go to the metro centre Christmas shopping which is 5minutes drive away. We didn't use any of the facilities because we had a table booked near by. There are restaurants and bars in walking distance and a great base for shopping. Can't fault our one night stay would stay again.

« impeccable service on all counts! »

From start to finish I cannot fault this hotel, it isn't the poshest of hotels but good enough for the price and the service is beyond excellent! Took my mum and sister for her birthday near Christmas, close enough to visit Beamish by car was only a 10 minute drive. We went to the bistro for dinner and the staff were the friendliest I've come across, and the food was delicious , they sang happy birthday to my mum without me even requesting it ! We then had a breakfast in the restaurant in the morning and there was everything you could have asked for! will certainly be staying again when I next visit, thankyou!

« Good, friendly and welcoming hotel! »

This is a really nice hotel with excellent bedroom with a huge bed, a modern bathroom with nice fluffy towels on heated towel rail plus toiletries. Food was excellent and good value for money - drinks not too pricey. Breakfast was buffet with hot food made to order. Staff are a credit to the hotel all very friendly, helpful and willing to assist as necessary. Would definitely recommend a visit to this hotel!

    « Great hotel - great staff »

Booked a night for a get together with friends. Greeted by a great guy on reception who was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Room was large and very clean and very nice. Next morning breakfast was plentiful and they happily accommodated my vegetarian request. Staff were lovely. In all a very pleasant stay with staff who are a credit to the hotel and would highly recommend a stay here. Will definitely stay again.

    « Solid, consistent & friendly »

We stayed at the hotel for 1 week during the Christmas period to be close to family. Overall a very positive experience; spacious room, comfortable bed and outstanding breakfast. Staff were excellent with a genuine friendliness and positive attitude. Special mention to the breakfast team - always so welcoming and delivered service excellence. Food quality was very high. The only downside is limited dedicated hotel parking. However, overnight parking in the public car park is free. In summary a very good experience and recommended.

We was redirected to this hotel because it's sister hotel was closed for Christmas. We approached the move with trepidation but was more than happy with the move. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

    « Not impressed »

Visited gibside pub today for lunch. Been here 100 times but first time today for lunch. As i was really hungry i ordered the corned beef pie with chips and gravy expecting a good tasty meal. Unfortunately all i could taste was the pepper and onions in the pie, the chips were rubbish and the gravy watery.....ate what i could but wont be here again for lunch. Wish I'd went along the road for 3 courses for a fiver least you know what to expect ??

    « Great Value »

£50 a night, 10 minutes from the city centre with free breakfast? Can't beat that sort of value, especially with the quality of the hotel. Staff - fantastic, warm and friendly Food - great Room - clean, big enough, pleasant General hotel - tidy, well laid out Location - 30 mins bus ride or 10 mins car journey to city centre. Wickham is a great spot for food, pubs and local shops too, all within a couple minutes walking distance from the hotel entrance. Bed - Soft, not firm. Provided enough pillows to make a pillow fort. If you're not used to hearing cars outside your window, ask for a room at the rear of the hotel though, as the front rooms face towards the road.

    « 5 star stay! »

We were really pleasantly surprised by the Gibside. We stayed in one of the dog friendly rooms and it was fab! Lovely, stylish room with a massive, comfortable bed, scrupulously clean, great food in the restaurant and fantastic, friendly staff...nothing was too much trouble. Also in case anyone is wondering, there were no doggie smells! I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone and I'm happy that we stayed here for our last two days prior to leaving the UK to live in Spain. 5 stars :-)

« Ideal position for family visit in Gateshead »

The Gibside in Whickham is perfect for a visit to both Gatehead & Newcastle. The hotel has fantastic views over the valley from south of the Tyne to the lights of Newcastle and with free parking, if your'e lucky, it is really to access the Metro center and the Sage etc. The hotel is well run, maybe a bit tired in places, but the rooms are spacious and all the staff very friendly. The bed was super comfy and the amenities in the room everything you could need. The shower was not the most powerful but the water was always hot, the towels were replaced everyday and the cleaning ladies happy to do whatever they could for you. We choose this hotel because it was a great deal on a winter saver as included free wifi in the rooms & breakfast, better than any deal I could get with Travel Lodge or Premier Inn and it's just back enough from all the main roads to be nice & quiet. There are a fair number of stairs throughout the hotel and no lifts, mainly because it's on the hillside, so if you have any mobility issue's speak to the hotel I'm sure they would be happy to help you. We will definitely be returning next time we visit family.

    « Overnight stay »

We were visiting Whickam for a funeral and stayed here the night before. A warm friendly welcome, and when I asked about check out times I was told 11am. I explained we had a funeral 200 yds away at the local church at 10am and was unsure if we would be back by 11am so I said we would check out about 9am. They immediately said they would extend it till 11.45 to give us time to get back and change before our long drive home. Brilliant of them. Room was nice, huge super king bed, very comfy.

« Excellent value for money »

Excellent value for money. The room was nice, the bed was immense and comfortable. Very handy for the metro centre. I would definately use this hotel again, though it was very cheap to stay there it did not feel like a cheap hotel.

    « Hotel experience »

This hotel is one of the best we have stayed in. Great food choices, lovely bedrooms, lovely staff. Access is easy, views are amazing, Metro Centre easily accessed, easy access to the coast and to Newcastle City centre. Whickham itself has a lot to offer. Well worth a visit for several days.

    « Great stay »

Stayed at the Gibside this weekend with our Under 18 football team, we were a party of 22. The hotel and staff were fantastic; they looked after us really well with a special dinner menu created for us! Thanks very much to all the staff!

    « Great hotel »

Just got back today after a long weekend break with my husband. From check in to check out, I have nothing but praise. Very warm, comfortable, clean and modern . All staff were very friendly and helpful as for the the food.... great breakfast choice and the evening meal in the upstairs diner was HUGE!! We had no problem finding parking outside the hotel and it was indeed just a short drive to the Metro shopping Centre. This is one place we would. DEFINITELY stay agin.

    « Visit 8 th Nov »

Nice hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Room nice unfortunately I'm 6 foot 1 and taller than the shower head. I asked my customer if he waved to eat there as my guest. He was a local and declined as I was to be part of his pub quiz team at a nearby pub and we would eat there. No reflection on the hotel as he had many nice meals there with his family. We actually won the pub Quiz, the staff on my return to the hotel were lovely. Great nights sleep. Lovely people in this village a s the hotel is great. Well done??

    « Panoramic View »

This hotel is positioned on the hillside at Whitham on the south bank of the River Tyne. At night there are extensive views over the lights of the town and industry north west of the city. Our stay included?Fireworks Night?. We had a glorious grandstand view! The hotel rooms are very well appointed. All the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Car parking is a bit of a problem, space is limited and the hotel reception has be be accessed via a steep stairway. The Strathmore Restaurant & Sphinx Lounge Bar are used to serve meals. The menu is what one expects. The food is well prepared and well presented even if service is sometimes slow. The range of beers could be extended.

    « Not too bad »

Stayed here as an overnight stop on the drive up to Scotland. Nice location with a nice view of the city and easy to find from the motorways. Free parking at the rear was fine for us. Reception lady was helpful, efficient and polite. The room we had was a little dated and dark (the bathroom however had clearly been recently renovated and was very nice with a high standard). The lighting was strange and gave the room a depressing feel. There were plenty of pillows and a hairdryer. I noticed there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. I don't use them so I didn't care but others might. I had an issue getting the TV to work but the staff were helpful. We didn't sample the breakfast - in my opinion it was pricey and I'd rather pull in at a Costa or supermarket or something after checking out. I'd stay here again if the price was right. For those wanting to explore Newcastle it seems well located.

    « De-luxe room »

Glad this was deluxe and not lesser. From entry to the hotel we were disappointed as there was no parking other than a few spaces if you were lucky enough to get there before they were all gone. Otherwise it was pay for your parking. Then steps up to reception. Not a good start. Warm friendly welcome here. going along corridors to our room smelt a little musty. Our room was no more than we consider adequate there was certainly nothing deluxe, but what does deluxe mean? The bathroom was reasonably modern with minimum bath washing extra's but no safety fascilities whatsoever, getting out of the shower was a danger for both of us, nothing to hold onto other than a wet glass shower screen, could have been dangerous stepping out onto a bathmat on slippery tiles and the door wouldn't close without us having to slam it shut. The room was the usual type of room on offer in any standard hotel, but the beds......... well we both could not believe how both the beds and pillows were, we both got little or no sleep at all, so dissapointed. We have had a better quality room sleep and space in a DAYS Inn and Premier Inns. The Lounge / bar was far busier than we expected but the staff and prices were good even though they put the wrong mixer in a drink and had to replace it. Sorry to give such a negative report.

« If you are wanting to be a little outside of the hustle and bustle »

A thoroughly decent hotel with all that you would expect from a Best Western hotel, but with the added pleasure of still having a local atmosphere. I was very impressed with the whole standard and ambience of the place and the quality of the staff. If you are in the North East of England - Newcastle in particular - and want to enjoy both village atmosphere, class service and easy access to the city and the wonderful countryside you could do far worse than base yourself here. Prices are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

    « Wedding »

Stayed at this hotel for two nights as my sister was having her wedding ceremony and reception there. The hotel was very comfortable. The staff very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make this a special day for my sister. The only downside being that there is no lift in the hotel. Other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel.

« Great base for Newcastle area »

We stayed in the Gibside, Whickham for one night as we intended to go to Beamish the following day. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs in Whickham - it is a very pretty village and surprisingly close to Newcastle and the Metro Centre.

    « Great Hotel »

Stayed here twice very good no complaints. Rooms great, restaurant very good, checking staff and overall cleanliness of the hotel good. On slight issue is parking although plenty of public parking close by

    « Typical 3 Star Hotel »

Hotel a bit tired in places but had a comfortable night. Very fast broadband, with the bathroom just recently done up. Room itself was spacious enough. Main bar looked quite fresh although carpet in dining room was badly stained. Breakfast was nice with good service and reception was welcoming when first arrived.

« The Great North Run Weekend »

We arrived on Saturday and were greeted by a very pleasant man called Kelsey, he couldn't do enough for us, one of the nicest staff members I have met in a long time, the room was a good size and the bathroom facilities were spotless, tea and coffee and biscuits wee also in the room, the adjoining restaurant were we had breakfast was spotless and we had a full breakfast for £10 which was served hot, the staff were friendly and I would definitely stay here again

« Afternoon tea funeral buffet »

We attended here for my father s funeral as we held my mother in law s funeral here 18 months earlier and it was spot on so my mother decided it was the best place to hold it in whickham...Sadly this time it didn't live up to the same service. On my arrival was told by family /friends that the coffee had run out it took a whole 40 minutes for the coffee to be replenished after seeking out staff as there were only 2 girls around who were absolutely run off there feet behind the bar the queues were terrible most of our guests were going to the upstairs bar to get served it was quicker. The buffet consisted of various sandwiches , 2 gateaux , full scones and sausage rolls which looked awfully big not cut in half and cold I thought they would of least been served hot they looked like something from a cheap bakery. The room was lovely white linen cloths on tables etc comfy sofas. For the price that it all cost I would of expected a little more there definitely wasn't enough pieces of gateau or sausage rolls for the amount catered for or coffee not even a complimentary crisp. It was hard work chasing up staff for replenishing coffee etc and the bar staff would disappear from the bar totally. Then we were left with one member of staff doing everything clearing tables , food , bar . I just feel that the standard s have slipped it should be perfection as you s cater for so many funerals on a yearly basis but this time it just lacked in service and food.

    « boring »

Not a holiday place. Business stopover only there are no amenities. Bedroom was above a long stay car park and through road. No king size bed in our delux room twin beds put together grr. Hotel parking poor. Breakfast was ok, staff were nice. Plenty of tea and coffee in the rooms towels were lovely. Would i go back maybe screaming and digging my heels in being dragged by a herd of cows.

    « Business stay »

First time in Whickham and pleasantly surprised. BW Gibside a nice little hotel, well furnished, nicely painted with an excellent breakfast made to order for you each morning. On down side entrance is steep with a number of steps and no lifts to rooms on a higher floor. Also in mid August my radiator was on and couldn't be turned down which made for an uncomfortable sleeping environment. Great upstairs bar area with views over the Tyne valley.

« Average tired hotel but in fairness the room was clean and breakfast option was very good »

My room on the second floor was an issue to get to. From the car park it was over three flights of stairs and with two cases it was a pain. As I was only staying for one night and with no elevator it literally was a drag. The room was dark and gloomy and the bed was no where near its best. It was more tired than me. The curtain did not block the light as it did not fit. However the bathroom, towels, sheets and pillows were very clean. The breakfast options were very good and plentiful but wasted on me as I only wanted toast and coffee which the lady serving forgot and it took about ten minutes. The staff are friendly as was reception. The layout is strange and reminded me of a training establishment. Their feature restaurant was also closed! I do not think I would choose to return. Nothing really wrong but not for me.

« Short stop, warm welcome »

Stopped here to break a journey to Scotland. Good value and a very warm welcome from all the staff. Food was available in the bar and, although the menu was oddly presented, service was great and the food good. Breakfast was good value and a good selection. Rooms comfortable and nicely decorated. Five minutes from the A1. Well worth a stop.

« Very good customer service »

Breakfast was tasty and customer service was great. Stayed in the deluxe rooms which were very big and clean. Beds were very comfy. Overall pleased with my stay there and would consider staying again. Dinner in the bar was tasty and staff were very helpful and friendly.

    « Excellent as always »

Second visit to this hotel and we were not disappointed. Suite 502 was well appointed and immaculately clean. Very large room with more than enough space to entertain. Huge bed, almost the size of two doubles and very comfortable. Very nice stay, once again!

    « Nice Enough »

Stayed at the hotel for two nights. The room was clean, although the net curtain at the window could've done with replacing. Only a couple of annoyances, the iron I was provided with had a water leak, which promptly leaked all over my shirt, and the jam at breakfast was mouldy. Staff were courteous and helpful.

    « Dark Decor... perfect! »

Best Western is a bit of a hit and miss experience for me.... all individual hotels some better than others.... and The Gibside Hotel is definitely one of the better ones. Convenient parking at the back 30p per hour, £1.50 per day and free after 5.30pm. Easy check in.... dark bedroom decor.... huge bed.... 6 pillows.... everything spotless.... I'm not the best sleeper but that's my problem not the hotel.... but maybe a choice of softer pillows might work. All good but even better at breakfast.... superb Smoked Haddock and Poached eggs..... and everything else too!! Friendly staff.... hotel convenient for my work.... I'll stay again!

    « Good for overnight »

Beware there is very little car parking and none available you have to use a pay and display unsecure public car park. Also there is no shampoo/shower gel which was disappointing. However the staff were lovely, particularly the ones in the lounge bar, and food was good

« Nice place to stay, usual Best Western hotel! »

Stayed here for one night. I have to say the biggest problem is parking in the area and it is not helped by having to lug cases up the front of the hotel steps to get in there. Other than that, it is a nice place, well managed and the staff aim to please. Internet was a bit sporadic as well.

« Comfortable Hotel good for my disabled wife »

the room we had was tastefully decorated clean and airy with an enormous bed. the bathroom had a shower over the bath so was no good for the wife. the only meals we had was breakfast and the menu was quite extensive poached eggs very good.never saw the top floor public rooms no time left.

« Brilliant place to stay to visit NewcastleGateshead »

We stayed here for three days whilst we visited our family in the North East of England. We are fussy! However, our experience here was really enjoyable. Booking was easy, the staff went out of their way to help and were friendly but professional. The housekeeping standards were the best I have experienced in a long time. The breakfast buffet table was excellent and was followed by a cooked full English. We enjoyed the bar overlooking the Tyne valley and beautiful lights at night. Excellent recommendations were given for local eating places. The garden benches caught the afternoon sun and were ideal for a pre-dinner drink. All in all a great experience and we will certainly return!

« Four good nights at the Gibside Hotel »

Staff - extremely friendly, cheerful, obliging and competent. Food - excellent especially the breakfasts. Rooms - decor good and in good condition, warm - spoilt by having to move rooms because of faulty shower. Common areas - all clean, well maintained and well heated. Access - can be a problem on some floors due to lack of a lift. Parking - hotel parking very limited but there is public parking only about 10 metres away at around £1.50/day.

    « Great Hotel »

I have stopped at the Best Western Gibside Hotel many times now whilst on business in the North East and would recommend it. A warm welcome on arrival with very friendly staff. The rooms are a good size and nicely decorated with a nice sized well equipped bathroom. Good tea and coffee tray with biscuits! The breakfast is very extensive including continental and full English. Yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit and pastries. I can recommend the full English, good quality ingredients and cooked to your liking and perfection. I am sure anyone staying here will not be disappointed.

« Good base to visit Newcastle »

Lovely hotel and staff. The rooms are clean, although a little tired and in need of a higher standard decor (paint work and bathroom in need of attention). That said, the staff are helpful. Take them up on carrying your bags as there are no lifts. Not good for disabled visitors. Evening meal and breakfast very nice

    « Reasonable hotel »

Check in was swift and easy and they were happy to book taxis when they were needed. The rooms were large and spacious, my room was clean though there was a strange smell that dissipated once the window was opened. The parking is very limited considering the size of the hotel.

    « Ok but annoying »

First of all room was nice and clean. Big bonus. Wifi was good and easy to connect. However, for a hotel this size to not have a car park is ridiculous. I found a space in one of the hotels 6 parking spaces which is good because if I'd had to pay to park in the council car park I'd be furious. Only one plug in room miles away from as alarm...hello. No lift was a pain. Staff are friendly enough though. I can also hear the bar music from my bedroom and I'm on the second floor....big minus.

    « Excellent base »

The only drawback with this hotel is that you have to use the stairs to get your luggage to your room! Otherwise it is a very pleasant place to stay. Restaurant is excellent with full English breakfast if required, an excellent dinner menu. The whole hotel is very clean and welcoming with very good reception staff. Nothing is too much bother, we stayed two nights as we were attending the funeral of my 101year old Mother! Whickham village is very pretty and there are loads of places to eat to suit all pockets and tastes. If we return to the NE again we will definitely stay there. We currently live in Spain!

    « Days with grandchildren »

Nice friendly hotel room very clean and spacious Hotel parking limited council parking close by Receptionist helpful Good size bed very comfortable with plenty of extra blankets and pillows Would recommend this hotel

« Our first visit to Newcastle »

A lovely hotel with great staff, and a very interesting city. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely bed. The room, reception, breakfast and lounge bar staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient.

« Great service - would return again »

The staff at the hotel provided amazing customer service. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive and are an asset to the brand. The food in Paco's restaurant was of fantastic quality and the portions are substantial (on the second night we had 2 starters each and were still full). The room, a superior, was a good size and was well presented with a huge and comfortable bed. Our only gripes, hence the 4 stars, were that the temperature throughout the buildings was far too hot and access to the hotel for those with walking difficulties is bad. Staff turned off the heating in our room but even with the window open it was still hot. I would definitely return here in the future.

« Comfortable hotel with exceptional staff »

We booked in for a family party being held there. Room was very comfortable with plenty of amenities and nice and quiet at night so had a good sleep in a huge comfortable bed . Dinner and breakfast were both very good. Catering for the party was excellent - with generous quantities and really good quality. Staff were excellent in every department - couldn't do enough to help and nothing was a problem. Put their local competition to shame. Slightly odd multi level layout but soon got used to it.

« Great Value with very friendly Staff, will go again! »

I was here for 2 nights whilst attending a funeral of a very close family member. Lovely big room with a fab view of the city. Lovely large room with a surprise complimentary bowl of fruit and some cakes . However the Shower is too low for a guy that is 6ft tall, and I did bang my head a few times. Needed an extra towel, that wasn't a problem. Food in the Hotel bar, was excellent, Salmon fillet and Mediterranean veg with Sauté potatoes was just £10.50 and delicious :). Breakfast, freshly cooked was fabulous fresh food. My only complaint would be the quality of the sausages (not that great to be honest) I like good quality sausages. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said "Oh, they do come from a local farm." That's as maybe, but that doesn't mean they are good quality. But on the whole, this is one of the nicest BW Hotels I have ever stayed in and I have travelled with work a lot for the last 15-16 years. I will definitely return here if I am in the area again :) thank you.

« All going so well until breakfast »

We arrived at the Gibside on Sunday afternoon to a very friendly welcome by the reception staff. Our room was a standard big group hotel type room - clean and well presented. It had a super king sized bed which was very comfortable. We met with our friends in the upstairs bar and enjoyed sandwiches and drinks - again the young lady behind the bar was smiley and efficient. We didn't have breakfast the first day of our two day stay but on the second day we decided to try it. The cost - not included in the room rate - was £12.50 per person. For this amount we expected a freshly cooked meal. Unfortunately we were presented with cardboard like bacon, shrivelled sausage and over cooked fried eggs. This was a massive disappointment to the start of our last day in Newcastle - but at least they did knock off the cost of one breakfast from the total bill. I would definitely stay at this hotel again - but I would also insist on a freshly cooked fry up if I were to chance breakfast again.

    « Comfortable & convenient »

Booked this place on a last minute deal after coming down to Newcastle to visit urgently a hospitalised relative nearby. The hotel isn't in the centre of town but in the area of Whickham - quite a way from the centre, but very handy (5 mins drive) for the Metro Centre. The room was very comfortable, with quite possibly the biggest bed we've ever slept in. It was a deluxe room. Apart from a big bed, nothing really else marked it out as deluxe - bog standard hotel facilities & en-suite bathroom. This isn't a complaint, the room was very comfy, just not sure what it did to deserve the "deluxe" tag. We were attended to by very friendly staff, very helpful and efficient. There is an on-site restaurant and bar, but we didn't use these facilities; we went out to eat. The hotel is situated on a parade of shops in Whickham with plenty of pubs, eating places, take-aways etc to find whatever you fancy if you don't want to eat in. Great choice of eating places at the Metro too, 5 mins away. The bar/restaurant looked busy enough though. A nice touch - we explained our 4 year old doesn't need an extra bed as he sleeps quite happily in an inflatable pop-up bed; the staff moved the bed up the room a bit and took out a bedside table to make room for the inflatable - really nice touch! Just watch out though - the car park of the hotel isn't easy to find. The address is given as Front St, Whickham, which is quite a busy street and parade of shops. The car park is located behind the hotel - set your sat-nav for Rose Villa Lane instead. The way into the hotel is also round the back....quite confusing as there isn't an obvious entrance on Front St. I would recommend this hotel again if you are looking for a quick stop-over near the metro.

    « Lovely Views »

Very clean room overlooking valley. Breakfast was okay but not the best, cold plates not a great start. Evening meals,,, first night okay but second night I had to send half back. Steak tough as old boots badged up as Rib Eye and ''Roast'' potatoes were dripping in fat fresh from deep fat fryer. Would stay again but maybe eat out.

    « A gem of a place »

Especially when the offers are on!! Managed to get a junior suite within my company's budget, including breakfast. Brilliant! I was in room 401, which has a nice view and i could also see my car which unbeknown to me I'd parked directly below the room. There's no lift so you'll be lugging your bags up and down stairs, but it's no biggie. Good exercise, I suppose. The room itself was well laid out, and had complimentary teas, coffees, muffins and fruit. Set me up perfectly for the morning as I declined breakfast. Comfortable seating in the "lounge" area. Decent sized TV. 2 desks to choose from too. My only complaint, and this isn't hotel specific - it seems to be everywhere - is that there are no plug sockets next to the bed. We all travel with mobile devices these days, it should be a prerequisite. The alarm clock was even plugged in at the other side of the room! I suppose you have to get up to turn it off so that's a bonus :) Went to the sphinx bar for food, and was blown away. They had Ghost Ship ale on tap, which instantly put a smile on my face, and also had a deal on pizza, so a full meal with 2 drinks was around a tenner!! Well in budget. Safe to say if I'm in the area again I'll be for sure staying here. Lovely welcome on reception when checking in, and also on checkout. Great staff all round. Only concern was the shower. Turned to ice cold, it was still scorchio. I got used to it, even if I did look sunburnt when I got out! Only kidding, it wasn't that bad but it could do with some adjustment. Thanks for a really pleasant, relaxing stay.

« Good lunchtime get together »

Visited with family for a lunchtime treat The food was good and value for money the Sphinx Restrauant had a cozy feel and nice atmosphere and good views across the Tyne valley The bar staff were friendly and helpful with the menu and nothing was a problem the young blond girl (Lauren I think ) even replaced the cutlery when it was dropped on the floor With out being asked

« Sunday lunch at Pacos Restaurant »

My friends and I have always visited Pacos for Sunday Lunch at least 3 times a year ( Birthday s or bank holiday ) and the food has never disappointed ! Paco was always there to greet you and always made the afternoon special with his bubbly personality and he made sure everything was perfect ! This was our first visit since he retired and I'm pleased to say the food was just as good but alas the atmosphere is not ! There was something lacking plus being greeted by a very pleasant young lady wearing SKINNY JEANS - did not seem appropriate for the type of restaurant ! This place used to be full every Sunday but there was hardly anyone in ! I think someone needs to have a closer look at what needs to be done to carry on in Pacos good name and reputation !

    « My view »

I had king room which was very nice. About 20 miles out of Newcastle. Car park at hotel is pay/display but was free overnight as I arrived late afternoon! Room (see photos) was comfortable but shower could have been cleaner and shower pressure poor! The staff were great and are aware of poor shower pressure 2nd floor due to work in progress so ask when checking in! Breakfast was excellent! I would stay again (Ps - great Indian restaurant next door)

    « Lovely staff »

This hotel proved a good choice for visiting relatives. The bed was very large and the room a reasonable size, with all the usual facilities. There is a limited amount of free parking, but the adjacent Council car park is only £1.50 per day. The hotel has a restaurant and lounge bar, and there are several restaurants and pubs nearby, together with shops. The staff were always helpful and the room was well serviced every day. Close by is the Metro shopping centre (buses from near hotel). The hotel would be a good base for visiting Newcastle, Northumberland and Durham.

« Great Hotel Excellent Staff »

From roadside looks average. Round the back you have a great view across Newcastle - even got the Fog on the Tyne in the morning. Rooms very good all facilities worked well Breakfast very good - scrambled eggs very well done. All staff very helpful and friendly Next time in Newcastle I will stay here

    « Hidden Gem »

My boyfriend & I have stayed at this hotel multiple times but our most recent stay was definitely the best. We treated ourselves to the Junior Suite this time as the price difference isn't much different and the room is a lot bigger with bonuses such as a bath in the bathroom and a lounge area with sofas. We arrived just after 4 and check-in staff were helpful just like our other times staying, we were given our room key and a free Wifi Password. The rooms in this hotel have been exceptionally clean and spacious each time we've stayed, I'd definitely recommend the Junior Suite for extra comfort but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the Standard Rooms. Beds are large and very cosy unlike a lot of hotel beds, the location is in a nice little area just outside of Newcastle (hence the title hidden gem) which we quite liked. We've eaten at the Sphinx Bar each time we've stayed which has lovely food and a great range of drinks. There's a more fancy restaurant downstairs but the menu wasn't to our personal taste. There's free parking just outside the hotel and there have been plenty of spaces left each time we've arrived. I've never been able to hear traffic from any of the rooms we've stayed in. I can honestly say this hotel is one of my favourites, not because it's overly modern or fancy/extravagant which is what a lot of people go for but just because it's GREAT value for money and a really pleasant stay in a more hidden part of Newcastle. We love coming here every now & then and will definitely return. It's like a little home away from home.

« Great location and staff no heating »

Stayed here Monday and the venue is superb, staff are great and whickham is a lovely village but in room 505 your heating doesn't work. If the radiator was working and this should be tested I would have gave 4-5 stars I just find it disappointing that for £88 a room doesn't heat up and get snugly and warm.

    « Gibside Hotel Review »

The Gibside Hotel is located in a delightful village called Whickham 23 miles from Newcastle. Th hotel is very basic and the room are very dark with with windows that are very small letting very little light in additionally they only open a very small amount which restricts fresh air. When the heating is switched on you cannot cool the room. there is no electrical socket next to the beds which makes it difficult plug in your laptop etc while sitting in bed. the double bed is two singles pulled together with a gap between the mattresses. The car park is pay as you go and is located over the road from the hotel make sure you have paid at the machine or you will get a fine. having said that the staff are all very pleasant and very professional.

« Nice hotel just out of the city »

A nice hotel, if you can, or afford, go for a superior room as they are slightly bigger and slightly nicer than the standard room. Very warm welcome and very informative. The breakfast selection is really good and the full English is cooked fresh to order. Lots of fruit, yogurt, muffins etc. Also available. The hotel is located in a relatively quiet village about 10 mins drive from the centre of Newcastle, lots of local shops and places to eat.

    « Pleasant stay »

Stayed here as I had a meeting in Newcastle. Parking limited but there is a public car park across the road, 30p per hour or £1.50 all day and free from 18:00 to 9:00, be careful of the steps from the car park at night, not well lit. Good room if a little dark and needed to keep the lights on to read in bed as the bedside lights not very bright. Ate in the bar, good selection, had corned beef pie, peas looked dried out and required more gravy which was brought when I asked for it. Bed slightly hard for my liking but slept reasonably well, no noise. Breakfast starts early, 6:30, very good selection and good quality, will return if in the area.

    « Last minute booking »

Stayed here for one night in September. Parked in the pay & display carpark behind the hotel which is free between 6pm and 9am. Clean and comfortable although the room was really dark. Ate in the lounge bar upstairs and the food was pub average to be honest. Staff were friendly and I had no issues, however I don't think it was quite worth the £95.

    « Meeting debrief »

Quiet drink in the bar while going over our meeting notes. Plenty of comfy seats. Great views over Newcastle. Bar prices are a tad higher than a normal pub. Food and drink fine ... nothing to shout about ... standard fayre. Bar area is dated now ...needs updating. Plenty of TVs on walls if you get bored/want to catch some news etc. Night times, particularly on a Friday, Saturday ,can get packed out as the hotel bar is on a pub crawl route. Fine if that.s what you want ... not so if it isnt. At least the place is alive which is more than some business hotels I could name. Small terrace outside ...but very near a busy road so not peaceful but at least improvised to give you a little outside space on a hot day if reqd.

« Great North Run weekend »

A very friendly hotel in a good location to access the Metro Centre and central Newcastle. The staff could not be friendlier and made the stay very comfortable for me and my family. Our only downside was the water pressure in the room was poor and the wedding at the weekend was very noisy when the fire door was opened. Despite that, I would definitely stay again.

« Night before the Great North Run! »

Three of us stayed in the Gibside the night before the GNR, there was also a wedding on in the hotel. However, we all slept well and were not at all disturbed by the wedding celebrations. The staff on reception were really helpful and friendly and we were advised well in advance that the restaurant would be closed because of the wedding. The hotel isn't far from the Metrocentre & it was easy to get a bus into Newcastle. Definitely worth considering if you want to explore the countryside (easy drive to Corbridge) & a good place to stay before the big race!

« Very good hotel for visit with pets »

We had to park in the nearby council car park (free overnight), The receptionist was very helpful and found a brochure of places to visit - we couldn't find any display stand of brochures which would be useful. The room was spacious with a large bed. The internet and other facilities were all good except for poor ventilation in the bathroom. Breakfast was also good. The walls were rather thin though and we could hear our noisy neighbours coming back in the early morning, We would certainly visit again!

    « Party hotel »

If you want to stay in whickam this is the only hotel unfortunately. We stayed over a weekend to visit family and it often has events or weddings do's which of course it did when we were there. As you'd expect from any wedding in the north east (I'm from there so can say this) it's a drunken riot pretty much always. When we arrived in the evening to check in we had to wheel our bags over broken glass which hadn't been cleaned up and the booming music and voices could be heard in our room till the party ended. Event or not the bar is always buzzing till late in this hotel so you will need to accept the noise- no option really. Room was an average size , comfy bed and the usual products. Shower was terrible, a faint drip of water which was either burning hot or too cold. So mixed review. Of course if you're 20 and have come to 'party' you will absolutely love it

    « Wedding venue »

The room I had was a normal twin room a bit basic the lighting was poor and why do hotels put the cheapest hair dryers in.the bathroom was fine and towels plenty and good the lack of a lift could be a problem although a lift is available if you ask staff to take you but not always convienent when you want to come down .the breakfast I thought was better than a lot I have had the cooked breakfast cooked to order .the parking was fine at £1 50 a day . The room I had was at front so quite a lot of traffic noise and as no air con the room was quite warm although a fan was available if required

    « "Brilliant stay" »

I lovely hotel and sutible for children. A really nice hotel. The receptionist was very helpful. The service is very good and they're very helpfully. There is always somebody yoga can call of ask. A really good stay. I would recommend this hotel to anybody.

    « Decent hotel »

We stayed here last week and had a good night's sleep. The booking agent hadn't informed the hotel about our daughter coming so they had to bring us a foldaway bed, but was brought quickly along with a fan as it was very warm in the room and there was no air con. Our bed was very large and comfortable. It's in a nice quiet location and we would use again.

    « Good hotel »

We use this hotel on a regular basis for work and have a corporate rate with them but it's the first time I've stayed as a guest myself. I would recommend plumping for the deluxe room as they're a tad bigger and nicer than the standard rooms. The bed was huge! (One person and 6 pillows can't be bad) and comfy. The bathroom nice and spacious and facilities good. 2 let downs were that there's no air con of any description in the room. We're currently in summer and the last few weeks have been temperatures of 30 degrees and very humid which made for a sleepless night for me sweating away. I would have slept with the window open however my room was on the main road in and the car park which was also the route for the rubbish truck nice and early and all the business guests setting off nice and early, so after waking up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat I then had to get up at silly am to close the window again. I didn't really get much sleep which is a shame as the bed was nice as big and comfy. The bar is nice and cosy with a great relaxed menu and a lovely view from the huge bay windows. We are in Paco's restaurant for which we didn't make a reservation but we ended up being the only 3 people there. I ate off the fixed price menu, cheesy garlic bread and the chicken tikka masala. Both fab and filling. Plus there is an offer (not sure if it's just for now or it's a permanent offer) for 10% off your food bill for guests. Make sure you get your ticket for this at check in. Bonus point for me was that I forgot my toothpaste, asked at reception to see if they stocked extras for this situation and was given a whole tube - kind of thing a family would buy - without charge! Thank you to the evening receptionist for that. We will continue to use the hotel and hopefully I get to visit again, just please install some kind of air conditioning!

    « Excellent »

Just checked out of this hotel after staying for one night and I have to say it gets pass marks for everything it has to offer. Friendly obliging staff, very comfortable rooms, clean and tidy everywhere, excellent dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel.*****

    « It was OK »

That was it... OK. Not good, not bad. Just OK. Room was comfortable enough, just the hotel was a bit old fashioned. Friendly staff, two flights of stairs with no lift was a pain with luggage, having to pay to park in the car park opposite was annoying.. the machine wouldn't let me overpay for the next day so had to top it up at 9am. Nice Chinese restaurant just round the corner and tesco express virtually next door came in handy. Overall, pretty good value if you just want something functional.

    « Very nice hotel »

I'll start with the few negatives and end on the positives... Hotel parking is very limited but this is advertised by the hotel and although hotel parking is limited there is a council car park right out side the front. I don't think the hotel can do much about this due to the hotels location other then trying to strike a permit deal with the council. Once I checked in i made the reception aware that I was a diamond member and I gave her my membership number so I could collect my points she didn't really no what to say to it... I clearly caught her off guard. Normally I'm made to feel a little extra welcome and given the options of a welcome pack or bonus points, and a possible upgrade if they have it available. I think the member of staff on the day was probably new and just wasn't even aware of what a diamond member was. Once checked in and found my room i noticed as soon as I walked in how warm it was. The window was open as much as it could be. I soon realised that the heat was coming from the towel radiator.... it was blasting out heat with no way of turning it down. It was so hot that it mad even sitting in the loo for 5 minute's almost unbearable. It kept the room hot all night and was very uncomfortable. The shower, the showers water pressure is very very poor it is clearly a gravity time system and is probably worse when the hotel is busy... also it is an over bath shower but back to front..... it was the fist time I've seen a shower head over the sloped side of a bath and with that because the water pressure is so poor you have to stand very close to the wall half standing on the slope... I feel this is probably an accident waiting to happen! The doors are old and very loud when closing and don't do a very good job of keeping noise in or out. And the last negative.. I was very disappointed to not find any complimentary shampoo.... Positives are everything else..... the room was well decorated, the TV was a good size , the towels are the BEST hotel towels I've ever used and had to stop my self taking them! All the members of staff we saw where very friendly and polite, the view was brilliant ( probably depends on which room you get), the bed was very large and very comfortable, the breakfast was brilliant...plenty of choice and everything was high quality and tasted amazing! And finally the price.... was very good value for money..... Overall a very nice hotel that I would happily stay at again!!!!!!!!

« Great value, friendly, quality hotel »

We stayed here because the hotel we originally planned to use was full - I am really glad we did. This is the North East, so lovely friendly staff and plentiful food come as standard - they really manage to offer a good quality hotel but one you can feel at home in. Whickam is a really nice location, OK hardly a tourist centre, but not an unpleasant place to stay. It's great for business travellers going into Newcastle but also right on the egde of some great countryside and attractions going the other way. We ate in the bar lounge and enjoyed great food without being charged silly prices. There was a restaurant downstairs for those who want "the works" - if the bar food is anything to go by it will be good. There was a wedding on, but the function suite is designed so that it caused no disturbance to other guests. Lack of a car park really is no problem - the public car park is nearer to the hotel reception than some hotel car parks are - the most you pay is £1.50 for a whole day, and you can even buy your ticket the night before to save you getting up and going out once the charges apply. All in all a great hotel - only possible issue is that it is built on a hillside so steps might be an issue for guests with mobility problems. Would not hesitate to return or recommend to others.

    « Excellent Stay »

Excellent stay, very helpful staff. Clean and well kept hotel. The staff go out of their way to help. i would certainly stay here again. Only down side is that their car parking is very limited, HOWEVER this is well advertised and their is a council car park just across the street.

« One night for work »

Stayed here after a long days work - welcome was warm and friendly . Room warm and clean - bathroom super clean ! Had steak in the restaurant with the rocket and Parmesan salad. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Great place to stay. Parking is opposite a wee road but it's no problem just pay 30p if you park there before 530. Will be back. Great friendly staff - easy choice to go back again soon.

    « Weekend stay »

£85 for a pretty standard room, nothing to write home about really. Lots of noise into the early hours of the morning mainly doors being slammed shut. Reminded me of student halls of residence. Bar area was nice. Good selection of drinks and staff friendly and helpful. Would I return. Yes if had another event in the whickham area

    « A nice stay »

Stayed 1 night in The Gibside Hotel. Pleasant stay, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Paid £10 extra each for breakfast which was a bit pricey but I have to say it was worth it, made to order & delicious! Would recommend the Pagoda Chinese restaurant which is a 5 minute walk away.

    « 80 Birthday Celebration »

On entering the hotel, I found it very spacious and clean. Staff were welcoming and saw to our arrival taking us to our allocated tables without any problems. The main thing I was really satisfied with was the meals; top class! Hot plates were used to keep meals warm, but most of all the presentation was superb! Will most certainly pass on this wonderful place and hope to return again. Thanks to all who made Alec's Birthday an enjoyable event!

    « Very relaxing »

Been here on business a few times. Great value and very relaxed but what makes it really good is the customer service. The staff here are so friendly and helpful especially when you first arrive the reception team make you feel instantly at home

    « Not very special »

Foisty old room in need of upgrading. Hotel lacks basic facilities and prices are pretty high for an out of town location. Premier inn is much nicer and much cheaper!! Staff fairly pleasant which is the only saving grace. Best western needs to be completely overhauled! Not a fan of the chain at all!

    « Very God »

I've stayed at the Gibside on three occasions. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. Beds are comfortable and the rooms quiet. The only downside is the lack of parking and it is quite a walk from the rooms to the bar /reception/restaurant and back again.

« Free night stay breakfast included »

We booked a room for the night at the Gibside hotel using our Best Western free night award points. Which is on a room only basis, without any breakfast included . But on arrival of the Gibside Hotel, they upgraded us to the deluxe room with breakfast included. We did contact the hotel to ask how to include a breakfast using our Best Western points, and they told us how to redeem our points for our breakfast, but we decided not to go for that option due to the fact that the room cost us 16000 points, but the breakfast was going to cost us another 9100 points, which is nearly another nights stay somewhere else. The room was of a good size and very clean. The décor was dark with dark coloured painted walls, but looked nice with all the lights on. Room 303. Decent size TV on the wall, nice bathroom with a heated towel radiator, with plenty of clean fresh thick white towels. The only thing that was wrong with the bathroom was the shower gels, they are in solid bottles which makes it hard to get the contents of the bottles out. The bottles need to be less solid so that you can squeeze the contents out more easier. The king size bed was big enough to fit four people in, with very clean bedding. Breakfast was really nice, good quality bacon sausages fried bread and black pudding etc.. The staff were all very friendly and professional and the hotel was very clean throughout with good free WI-FI.

« Good food and excellent service »

Extremely comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and particularly helpful. No lift, which makes getting to upstairs rooms difficult for some. We had to use the service lift to take our baggage to our room! Good choice of menu and tasty food which was good value.

    « Best Breakfasts! »

I have known this hotel since it was built but have only stayed there recently. Am pleasantly surprised! Rooms are comfy, beds are big. Water pressure not too good but the corned beef pie more than made up for that! I will be having that again. And the breakfasts are not buffet, are hot and were crispy. Definitely the best I have had in a long while.

    « great hotel »

stoped here on the 10th april till the 15th wow what great staff and lovely rooms great food followed by great friendly service if ever im in newcastle again i know where im stopping thankyou for making my stay very plesant miss devine

    « A Comfortable Hotel »

Enjoyed my one night stay in this small but comfortable hotel. Staff in general were very friendly and helpful, reception no issues at check in and departure. Limited hotel parking of about 10 spaces near the rear entrance. Opposite the hotel is a large public payable car park which has both long and short stay parking. The hotel room (203) was large and well appointed with a nice modern bathroom, if a little dark, the room was too warm for my liking with radiators on full blast, however I adjusted this via the thermostat. I ate somewhere else that evening so can only comment on the breakfast which was very good and cooked to order rather than the usual buffet style.

Lovely Hotel lovely staff. I offered to treat my customer to a meal at the Hotel. He wanted to go to a pub quiz locally instead. Hotel were great about this. Rooms are very clean well equipped and i got a great nights sleep, very quiet after lights out. UNFORTUNATELY THIS WILL BE THE LAS REVIEW I WRITE. I tried to post this on my i phone. The only way you can do this is if you download the APP. I have Apps coming out of my App! I feel as though you are trying to bully me and others into using the App. BAD MOVE TRIP ADVISOR!

    « Super View »

Up graded because of my Diamond Card, the room was very nice. Looking over Gateshead from Whickham was a much pleasanter view than I imagined. Oh and I fell in love with the receptionist but don't tell her.

« Nice hotel - music in dining room leaves a lot to be disired »

Stayed here as a last minute decision when I realised I had not booked a third night in my normal hotel in the centre of Newcastle. Hotel was lovely, if a bit out of the way. There is really no on site parking, however the public car park is across the way and is free from 1730 to 0900

    « good »

hated the MUZAK, dont understand why hotels play this rubbish. Food & room excellent but was ripped off for a soda & lime I got charged £2.40 The bathroom looked fab but it took 5 minutes for the water to come out of the shower head Overall I would go back

    « Perfect. »

After a lot of driving, I was hoping for a relaxing evening, for my one night business stay, and wasn't let down. From the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out, all staff were very friendly and helpful. I dined in the lounge bar in the evening, and the view over Newcastle was fab. There is a good choice of food and beers, and again the service was perfect. After a good nights sleep in a big comfortable bed, I skipped downstairs to a very good breakfast with lots of choice. I've already booked in for another relaxing night, after another long drive in a couple of weeks time. One hotel I would definitely recommend.

    « Lunchtime Sunday meal »

Just had a lovely Sunday lunch in the bar of the Gibside arms . We all had the roast beef which came with a fantastic Yorkshire pudding loads of veg in a separate dish which comprised mash potato carrots broccoli peas and cauliflower . Plenty of extra roast potatoes and gravy. All in all a great dinner in a nice setting would certainly recommend .

« Best Customer Service Ever. »

We stayed at this hotel on New Years Eve and I feel I need to review this hotel as it was absolutely perfect. The hotel itself is really nice, warm and most of all welcoming. We had an evening meal and the food was excellent as was breakfast the next morning. What struck me more was the customer service from the staff (all staff whether it be reception, bar, restaurant). Every member of staff we had the pleasure of speaking to were the most helpful, friendly and accommodating I have had the pleasure to come accross in one place. Nothing was any bother at all. Thank you all for helping make our New Years Eve a one to remember. We will definitely recommend and so look forward to visiting again. Well done and keep up the good work.

« An appropriate place to meet for a family gathering »

We met at this hotel after a family funeral. There was another funeral party there at the same time, in another room. The room was ready and tea and coffee was prepared. It would be good to provide sweeteners with this, for those who are diabetic. The buffet was tasty; a selection of sandwiches, lovely sausage rolls, gateaux and cream scones. Drinks were available from the bar. Staff were available in the background but did not interfere with our conversations. We did not explore other areas of the hotel so I cannot comment on those. It was an appropriate place for us to meet.

    « Excellent weekend break »

Excellent hotel, good, clean rooms. All staff were exceptional, could not have been more helpful. Food was very good, very generous portion and all served piping hot. Fantastic venue for seeing Newcastle. Only drawback was lack of parking but public car park opposite.

    « Gibside whickam »

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Gibside and was upgraded on my points to a junior suite. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good quality there was parking at the rear of the hotel for approx. 6 cars but there was also a council car park which you could pay for also next to the hotel.

    « Great little hotel! »

This is our second stay at this hotel, both times we have stayed in the 3 bed apartment which is fantastic! Great for families as it has ample space for everyone & means you can be a little more independent if you are wanting to get out and about. The hotel is a great location for Beamish Museum & the Metro Centre. The staff are very warm & helpful, we had a bit of a problem with our shower & although it couldn't be fixed we were given options to help us. I would recommend the apartment if you are looking for space but would also like the amenities of a hotel. We hope to return early next year, had to cut our visit short to Beamish due to the snow!

A great hotel that i have stayed in many times whilst on business in the area. Rooms spacious and comfortable, food is of a high standard and well priced, staff always welcoming and friendly. My only slight concern is the relatively small car parking spaces that are available, i have had to use the pay and display opposite on a few occasions, but as i said this is a minor irritation.

« Great food and value for money »

We went here with friends and the service was first class, served and looked after by Mike and Janice, both vey attentive. The food was excellent and we were looked after from the minute we walked in. Prices were very reasonable and a great night was had by all, well done to everyone, we will be back.

« Reasonable business class hotel - take a Sherpa to find your room »

Stayed for the week on business. Rooms ok, Breakfast only average. We ate in the bar as the restaurant downstairs lacked atmosphere. Food was generally good with decent portions. Staff were good in the bar and on reception. Parking across road in public car park if you couldn't get in the few hotel spots - free at night, payable during day. Strange layout - you need a map and a Sherpa to find your room!

« Comfortable, great value, excellent food »

Very comfortable stay, convenient location for Newcastle and the surrounding area. Food was outstanding quality with food choices to suit any taste and preference. The staff were attentive and my stay a comfortable and pleasant one.

    « My view »

A lovely hotel and nice and clean with an queen size bed in a very modern room. A choice of a restaurant or lounge for dining, which both are very good with very friendly and helpful staff. I would be happy to stay here again as I'm sure that I will. The view from my window is lovely overlooking the valley, but you have to look past the building site ( although it does not effect the stay at all). Keep up the good work.

    « Good hotel »

We have stayed in a few Best Westerns now and this one is pretty good. The staff were very helpful and the room (apartment) was very spacious and clean. The beds were good. We did only stay for a night and did frequent the bar. In places it did look a little tired but was comfortable with a good view. Once again the staff were excellent. We would stay again.

    « Excellent stay »

Recent on night stay with business. Much better than I expected. Friendly and welcoming staff, comfortable room. Really great food in the bar - homemade burger and chips, and what may well well have been home made ice-cream - delicious. Good night's sleep and decent enough breakfast

    « Gibside Hotel Newcastle »

We had an excellent visit to the hotel. It was extremely busy with the Rugby World Cup weekend and there was a wedding on at the same time. That said, the accommodation was of a very high standard, the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the weekend.

« Helpful staff, enjoyed our stay »

Stayed for 5 nights on a coach holiday. Lovely room, spotlessly clean, hot water quick in coming through, enough plugs for charging mobile, electric toothbrush etc. Staff very helpful, found me some extra coat hangers (I always travel with plenty of clothes!) and were friendly, always greeting us as we passed the reception desk. Made no fuss about anything asked of them. Upstairs bar had good views over Newcastle and at night we could see all the lights. Only downside for some (not for us) is there is no lift so if stairs would be a problem for you, it would be worth sorting this out when booking. Situated near a convenience store and shops but set apart so quiet location. Difficult to comment on Location because it depends what you want but was perfect for us. 'Value' is similarly difficult to comment on.

    « Typical Geordie welcome »

Booked the hotel ,my son was running in the Great North Run.Lovely welcome ,on checking in asked if we were running in the event.Confirmed my son was ,theyd already prebooked taxis to ferry people to the start line ,brilliant ! .Wedding in the hotel ,superb sound proofing couldn't hear a thing.

« Short stay in Newcastle »

This was the first time I have stayed at the Best Western Gibside Hotel in Newcastle. On arrival My wife and I found the reception and staff extremely helpful ,polite and professional. The room was on of the best we have stayed in .Fantastic value for money. The first night we decided to forgo the restaurant and have a bar snack in the Bar. What a fabulous experience The food was absolutely excellent.( other lesser hotels could learn a lot from the Gibside) I cannot find fault with the Gibside hotel and I/we have stayed in lots of hotels. I would Highly recommend this hotel. I will be staying again soon If you are staying over in the Newcastle area , might I suggest that you stay here, you will not regret it. MANY THANKS TO ALL AT THE BEST WESTERN GIBSIDE HOTEL !

    « Overnight stay »

A Saturday night stay. Wedding in the Hotel so limited restaurant facilities. But the lounge Bar and the food served was excellent. Breakfast served in the main restaurant was served to the table with old fashion service -a nice change. Two downsides to this hotel, there was no lift to the rooms and steps from the Car Park to the reception. The Car Park is charged for by the council before 6pm

« Great for work stay »

Have stayed here a couple of times when working in Newcastle/ Gateshead. Great location as fairly central but also nice and quiet. Wifi very good, rooms of an excellent standard. large bar in hotel which is ideal if with a large group. Restaurant food also very good, can always tell when locals use the restaurant that it's going to be good
