"Dreadful. Avoid. Can't believe BW attaches its brand to this establishment"
Robert R, 05 Avril 2024

This was a very disappointing stay. I was initially allocated and unacceptable room on account of the overpowering odour of curry coming from the kitchen below. This room is too close to the kitchen extractor vents, the room smelt of curry with the windows closed and opening the window allowed in an even more overpowering curry smell. The room I was thankfully reallocated on the opposite side of the hotel did not suffer from this odour. However, this room had just one pillow, an unserviceable mattress, a weak shower with illogical shower head placement and my room was not cleaned once during my 3 night stay. I would ideally expect some sort of compensation such was the low quality of my experience in your hotel.

"Unreliable Wi-Fi"
Rohan M, 01 Avril 2024

The room was clean and the staff were nice, but the Wi-Fi connection was very poor and I had to use my phone data most of the time. Breakfast is a bit overpriced considering you can buy yourself a nicer meal somewhere close by for the same amount of money.

"Review by Carole"
CaroleJS2024, 05 Mars 2024

I use the hotel when I visit my daughter who is at the University. The staff are absolutely excellent, the breakfast are great and the rooms are clean and well maintained. The location is fantastic, with lots of restaurants, bars and shops on the doorstep and the Metro is a short walk away for trips into the city. I will definitely be coming back to stay again. Thank you.

"Great family room"
karendorrington, 19 Février 2024

Perfect was a city break if you don't want to be right bang in centre. Close to jesmond dene for lovely walks and motorway for easy access to coast by car. Fried breakfast was delicious although it could be improved with better children's breakfast cereal and Nutella. Room was spacious although not very soundproof so you could hear people walking along the corridor. Overall it was great value for money.

"Newcastle Family Trip"
Deborah H, 04 Octobre 2023

Visiting my son and very pleasant hotel in Jesmond close to amenities and clean and comfortable. Would recommend and would visit again. Staff helpful and access to parking very helpful too. Good value for money.

"Awful"
waynethackwray, 27 Septembre 2023

Awful hotel. No character, restaurant closed (as usual), limited staff, poor customer service and dated! I would avoid Best Western hotels at all cost... Best Western Hotel Newcastle Jesmond should be rated as a 2 star hotel.

"Good value/and location to city centre"
Michael B, 03 Septembre 2023

I have stayed here many times. Always been a good price. Limited parking space, but on road permits given by hotel allow you to park in resident spaces. Fresh cooked hot breakfast, but still no re opening of hotel restaurant. Loyalty card recognition, with room upgrade provided before requesting it on arrival. Everything worked as you would expect.

"Okay but not quite good enough "
ianm376, 01 Septembre 2023

This hotel is a little tired, very 80s decor. Having said that it is clean 8/10. On my visit , 5 days in total. There was no evening meals and the bar seemed closed. I met 4 staff during my stay all were very friendly and helpful. I had to ask for room service, they stated I was asked when I checked in and said no, I don't remember being asked. There is WiFi but it is very slow and this makes it impossible to do any work on your laptop. The mentioned free parking but there are only 9 spaces for 30 rooms. Located very close to shops and restaurants and near the Freeman hospital which was the reason for my visit. The worst thing about this hotel is the smell on the stairs to the bedroom, it smelt like old pipe smoking mens club. This hotel was cheaper than a premier inn in Jesmond, which is one of the nicer areas of Newcastle. I am cutting my stay short as thus morning the noise from below me is horrendous, banging, people with raised voices, washing machines running from early hours. Thanks but I will not be using this hotel again.

"Great weekend break "
N4483FSvalm, 07 Août 2023

Booked 2 rooms - 1 x family of 4 & 1 double for ourselved Everything just right. What can I say about the breakfasts - super food, large selection & served by the nicest staff. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay in Newcastle so good.

"Don't bother"
114howardw, 30 Juin 2023

Ok so its in Jesmond, so party town, There's very little parking, its clean with a new bathroom with very smelly drains When I arrived I noticed I was next to the breaks stairs and that the neighbours above were pretty noisy, and here I am writing a review at 2;30 am, its too noisy to sleep, and I would never stay here again, the woman on reception wasn't interested at 5;30 pm and I don't expect her to be interested at 8 am when I leave for work having left the to on at full volume

"The word ‘Best' is doing a lot of heavy lifting"
Paul S, 30 Juin 2023

The hotel is well located near the west jesmond tube and the main bus route through Osborne road, where there are also restaurants. The room we booked as a family room would have been small for a double room, with the extra bed it was very cramped. The bathroom had been refurbished and was a good standard. No ironing board in the room. It was a warm couple of days and there was no air conditioning and even with windows open it was too hot to sleep comfortably. The restaurant was closed and when we arrived at 9pm on a Friday night the bar was already closed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic and on the second day they ran out of gluten free bread.

"Wouldn't recommend "
danipayne89, 23 Janvier 2023

Me and my partner stayed here for a night mid Jan 23. As you drive to the hotel you pass a beautiful strip of lovely hotels, and you turn the corner and it's a bit disappointing. We got there a bit early so we couldn't check in right away, we came back in at 3pm to check in. Whilst we were in the hotel lobby there was a woman sitting in the lobby who was clearly very drunk, and the lobby smelt of booze and smoke which left me to feel very uncomfortable and slightly unsafe about the place I was staying especially being someone who lives outside of Newcastle. Once we were in the room the room was ok, apart from there was mould in the bathroom down the side of the tiles. The temperature was very hot and cold at points it was uncomfortable. The hotel didn't provide any fresh or even drinkable water. I assumed the taps where safe to drink from and was then violently sick. I then went down to the hotel reception to ask for bottled water to be charged for them. The gentlemen who did charge us was lovely and a very helpful member of staff. Overall I wouldn't stay again.

"Great clean hotel."
Jeff B, 22 Janvier 2023

We always stay here when we're in Newcastle and never been disappointed with the service. Friendly and helpful staff and clean rooms. Restaurant was excellent with a good selection for breakfast or dinners.

"Excellent location, price and room"
joycrothers, 16 Janvier 2023

I had to go to my uncle's funeral and this hotel is directly opposite the church where the service was being held. I had a single room which was excellent and the en-suite was pristine. The room was well appointed and had everything I needed. The check in and check out we're easy and both staff members were very friendly and polite. Excellent Wi-Fi. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Lovely hotel"
hydewilson, 29 Août 2022

Great location, hotel very clean, staff friendly & helpful. Breakfast good value for money & cooked to order so arrives at your table nice & hot.The rooms have a kettle with tea & coffee which you dont always get in other hotels

"surprisingly good"
Glongden, 31 Juillet 2022

the room was clean and tidy,as a was the hotel. the bad news is that the hotel was understaffed, the good news is that the new Sri lankan receptionist of three days, gaya was superb, and George the hotel bar manager was superb. Both went the extra ,mile. parking is a little tight, the bar is comfy and roomy as is the dining area. We will return

"Tiny double room"
darkwolfs, 19 Juin 2022

Hotel as many have said is dated, especially the room decor. The small double bedroom is literally a shoe box with a small attached bathroom. The bathroom grout could have done with a clean, black mould is not a good look, along with the shower curtain. I'm surprised this is a 3 star hotel as I have stayed in much better hotels that cost less and lesser stars. Location is great, but parking is poor. If you could get a space and leaving the car in a side lane is not very reassuring when the back end of you car overhangs the kerb because the space is so small. Reception was welcoming and polite. Would I stay here again? No. I'd rather pay for a travel lodge or premiere Inn where the rooms are much better, cleaner and bigger for less money.

"Tired hotel"
Brian S, 29 Décembre 2021

This hotel is a little dowdy on the outside and the rooms continue this theme. The carpets are worn and dirty and the rooms are small with little or no storage space. The redeeming feature of the rooms is that the bathrooms are pretty new but the two I stayed in both have bath/showers which many travellers may not like. Had I had to spend any time in the rooms (I was visiting family and spent my days with them) I would not have found it a pleasant experience. OK for business travel where you get up, go to work, eat, got to sleep but that's it.

"Very Useful Find"
colina545, 24 Novembre 2021

Excellent service, clean and reasonably appointed . Comfortable warm and quiet room ( having requested latter). Good breakfast. Sensibly priced stay. Convenient for local restaurants, of which there is a good selection.Outstanding feature was the exceptional service from Bin, the hardworking and always helpful receptionist ( and breakfast waiter). Would stay there again if in Newcastle.

"Good value local hotel"
Malcolm R, 18 Octobre 2021

Second or third stay whilst visiting brother who lives near by - it is a fairly typical local hotel on a busy road - it has noise issues from some of its customers - but overall it is good value, fairly friendly and it is coping well with CV19

"Judgemental and unwelcoming"
Chloe R, 31 Juillet 2021

I went here with my friends to stay for the night to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival, not only were we not greeted or even given a ‘hello', we were judged the minute we walked through those doors. We waited for the receptionist to come off the phone which the first thing she said to us was don't be loud as they have friends and children staying. Immediately we were judged as being the group of people who are noisy and cause problems, despite entering the building in a calm manner. She then asked us what our plans were, times etc. She wasn't asking to be nice, she was asking to be nosey and see if we would be going out drinking. As this was the first weekend of restrictions being lifted and being a hotel, they should expect that they will have customers staying there going out drinking and having fun. Id have understood her attitude if we were the type of group to be disrespectful, but that is not us at all and when we arrived late at night we were very quiet going up into our rooms. All of us felt very unwelcomed here. I think the staff really need some training in customer service. However, I cannot fault the rooms as they were nice, clean and comfortable. The only downfall was the windows being so small you could barely open them and when it's a hot day like the day we stayed, the room was extremely hot.

"Poor Hotel"
johntT2191XP, 20 Juillet 2021

I could have given this two stars. We were given a room at the top of the building, during a heatwave. The room was very hot as a result. No air con, and a tiny window made cooling our shoebox of a double room a challenge. Getting to the room was tough - up two different staircases with our luggage, and no suggestion from the receptionist as to how we could make this easier. The corridors had the smell of an old house, like a National Trust house without the creepy dolls or family silver. The room had the usual amenities, unusually presented. A sandwich bag contained the tea and coffee. On the day Covid-19 restrictions ended this seemed odd. Light switches fir non-existent lights and an extractor fan in the bathroom with no means by which to shake it from its slumber. The shower was OK, except when it decided to have a break and stop emitting water, typically when shampoo had been applied to my hair. We were also told no maid service during our stay for Covid-19 reasons, although quite why we never quite understood. Basically, we won't be returning.

"Excellent Hotel"
Lynn B, 28 Juin 2021

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times. It is comfortable, immaculately clean and excellent value for money. The staff are so helpful and go the extra mile to make sure your stay is a pleasant one.

"Hotel with character"
Fearless16655333165, 12 Mars 2021

An oldish hotel with quite a bit of character. I had a room with a view of the church opposite through a large bay window. Very nice breakfast to go. Staff were very helpful. No problem bringing in takeaway food. Room was clean. Very pleasant.

"Very good overnight stop"
187gillr, 10 Octobre 2020

Clean, COVID aware, warm, good breakfast, parking. Staff were friendly and knew their jobs. All you needed for a comfortable overnight stay. Building a little tired but if little consequence. No lift.

"Birthday & Anniversary Treat"
Katie M, 14 Septembre 2020

I booked the New Kent Hotel as a surprise birthday present for my husband and an early anniversary treat, because this was where we had our wedding reception 35 years ago. We received a lovely warm welcome when we arrived and the staff couldn't have been more helpful throughout our stay. Our room was on the first floor and its modern decor blended with the character of the original building. The bed was really comfortable and along with hairdryer, refreshments and TV there was free WiFi. It was close to all the bars, restaurants and shops and the City Centre was within walking distance but a bus service ran from just outside the hotel. We paid for breakfast and it was well worth it, a full English we had and Susan our waitress couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast room brought back wonderful memories of where we cut our wedding cake and shared a wonderful day with our friends and family. Thank you for a memorable stay.

"Good value and location"
Phil_P_Danes, 07 Septembre 2020

Stayed here for one night, good location nice and quiet. there is a fantastic Indian restaurant (Dabbawl) lest than 10 minutes walk away. the rooms were clean and well quipped, recently refurbished by the looks of things. the breakfast was good, as was the overall stay.

"One night in the toon"
Expedition740217, 05 Septembre 2020

Student drop off time so stayed over for the night. Clean hotel, comfy bed and decent breakfast. Only downfall was a weak shower and the hot water not working properly, road works outside apparently. Will be staying again so it didn't put us off.

"Handy Hotel for an Overnight Stay"
66sam2015, 15 Août 2020

This was our first stay and yes, it's a basic hotel and needs a revamp but in these times, you cannot expect anything else. The room was equipped with coffee but no tea? The bed was comfy and everything worked in the room. I just felt that it needed a good clean...there was a stain on the chair, the carpet had various stains on it and the “extra” blanket that was stored in the wardrobe had definitely seen better days. There was a pair of nail clippers in the bedside drawer which had obviously been left by a previous guest, and there were parts of the room that had not seen a duster for a while. As I've said - we stayed for one night and had a good nights sleep - if we'd stayed longer I would have pointed out the above. The breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly and polite - the two that we met during our stay.

"Nice recently renovated room"
AlanS0308, 30 Juillet 2020

Car parking can be a bit of a lottery but otherwise hotel nice clean and friendly. Looks like my room had been recently renovated, and the new smart tv a great addition, room upgraded to a nice standard

"Excellent hotel and service"
PhilT1226, 03 Février 2020

My wife and I and one of our sons stayed at the hotel while the other was a patient at The Freeman Hospital. The hotel was excellent and really convenient to the hospital. The rooms were very good and the staff extremely helpful.

"Decent quiet budget hotel.."
dougdacre, 27 Janvier 2020

Stayed for 2 nights, easy to find, got a parking space on site, easy 10 min walk to the Metro station. Hotel staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly, The hotel is what you expect from the budget with a few dated bits but generally in good order with a comfy bed, bath, hot water and a good shower. My room did have a BO smell maybe from the previous occupant but as I always sleep with the window open didn't bother me too much. Can't comment on the food as didn't try but others said breakfast was all good. Wil stay again as I like the quiet end of Jesmond, and this Hotel does what is required.

"Mrs"
996geraldinep, 04 Janvier 2020

We needed a hotel as my young brother was flown by air ambulance from ireland. Vin. Susan Dean and all the staff couldnt do enough for us excellent service 5 star breakfast spotless rooms they were so good one of the best hotels I've stayed in ..I will be back excellent.

"Dated hotel, not dog friendly really "
kathryn_d89, 30 Décembre 2019

Stayed here for a few nights in December. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Room was ok, comfy and clean but dated. Bathroom was lovely, more modern and huge bath and shower. Brought out dog with us as hotel advertised as dog friendly. Dog apparently allowed in bar according to website however on arrival we were informed that he was only allowed in room and must be in crate when left alone (understandable) and not allowed in bar due to new ownership. Bar area isn't a far cry from a 1960s gentleman's club compared to other bars on the street. Very dated. When we asked if we could sit with the dog in the EMTPY bar we were told no. Went to a lovely modern bar down the street which were happy to have a dog and met up with family. Some business lost for the hotel with many drinks bought over the night. If only dog friendly hotel in area would stay again for this reason however after research have found more modern and same priced hotels in area. Staff all very helpful and friendly though. Cannot comment on food as walked dog in nearby Jesmond Dene and had breakfast there everything morning. Very handy for Jesmond Dene and a lovely walk.

"New Kent Newcastle"
HughM442, 22 Décembre 2019

The front of house staff member was extremely helpful and polite. We did not get his name but he worked hard to please. The room was a bit confusing to find but once we did it was what you would expect, clean with a good sized ensuite.

"Great location but tired decor."
CynicalMike, 17 Décembre 2019

Property decor is extremely "tired" and outdated. mattress was extremely hard and pillows were flat and hard. Shower enclosure was far from sufficient for keeping water contained during use. Needed 2 towels to mop up.

"Good accommodation at the quiet end of Jesmond"
Famrave, 27 Novembre 2019

Was looking for hotel close to my brother-in-law who lives in Jesmond - turned down the garish, noisy, karaoke style hotels in Osborne Road's so-called entertainment strip. New Kent is in Osborne Road but it is at the top end - opposite a delightfully illuminated church - it was wonderfully quiet - even on Friday and Saturday nights!! Staff were friendly - breakfast was very good - prices were reasonable. They even have private parking for about 10 cars - all in all a great find.

"Friendly small hotel with excellent value"
Navigate65307705451, 15 Novembre 2019

Excellent value. Relaxing place to stay in Jesmond, just outside of the city centre and close to West Jesmond Metro station. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Nice breakfast, personal service and well presented in relaxing environment.

"Thank goodness it was only for one night!"
AwayOnceAgain, 06 Novembre 2019

Room tiny, bed small and uncomfortable. Random sock on the floor was a little disconcerting and suggests cleaning not great. The shower could have done with some hot water! Without doubt the worst hotel I have stayed in for some time. The night manager was helpful tho!

"4 Night Break "
geoffs399, 04 Novembre 2019

The Hotel is very dated ,the staff were really helpful and friendly but the bar is out of date .we stayed here for 4 nights room 17 the room needs redecorating and the bed needed replacing so hard would have been better off sleeping on the floor I did ask to change rooms but the were limited as we had our little dog with us ,managed to get a extra quilt put around matress which made it better but I've now got a very sore and painful back.i would not recommend staying in this room.we will never return here, car parking is very poor and the streets need permits so be aware very little parking, the breakfasts were good and nice

"Fabtastic food!! "
grants624, 22 Septembre 2019

Monday night stay here parking is tight especially with a lwb van but I got lucky with my space... Receptionist/bar person /waitress was amazing nothing too much trouble and amazingly friendly she really stood out.... Food was really really good and exceeded my expectations definatly eat here. Room was pleasent clean and tidy, sadly shower was almost cold and I had very noisy neighbours next door and the sound of music from above me which I brought to attention of the gentleman on reception the next morning who seemed to be aware of the culprits Overall a good stay but not the best nights sleep.

"Best Western New Kent Hotel "
LonelyPlanet_Travel, 26 Août 2019

Old fashioned building, limited parking only 3 spaces round the front. No complementary water/juice or toiletries. Very modern bathroom however doesn't match the bedrooms. Very dated & basic, staff not visible hardly during our stay. a bit overpriced for standard of hotel.

"Good Value"
jsh69, 25 Août 2019

I've stayed at the here more than 10 times over the past year. The location is fabulous, round the corner from the main Osbourne Road bars and restaurants and with easy reach of the Metro station. The rooms are good value, always clean and quiet. There are tea and coffee making facilities which is good. The free parking is always a benefit worth having and the staff have always given me a warm welcome. When I need to stay in the North East this hotel is always my 1st choice.

"Handy location and great service"
RedChinaSky, 21 Août 2019

Nice little hotel in a good location. You can book family rooms with a dog. Service from Yiannis was exceptional. Breakfast was excellent. Just wish more of the hotel (e.g. the bar) was dog friendly. Also super close to the Jesmond park which is great to explore and excellent for walking Benji.

"Family Event in Newcastle."
Arthur C, 05 Août 2019

We had to go to Newcastle for a Family Event. We had no idea where to stay in Newcastle. We looked up the Booking Websites. We examined the Facilities and Prices. I telephoned th Best Western Booking Office in Milan. We were offered a very good deal. Every thing about the Hotel came up to our expectations. The Helpfulness of the Staff enabled us to bring our friend back to the Hotel in the afternoon.

"Small and stinky"
hwilde2019, 28 Juillet 2019

Arrived and went to my room - 4 flights of steep stairs with a heavy case. No lift. Room tiny and smelled strongly of sweat. Managed 2 nights out of the 6 I booked but then asked to be moved to another room. Offered another room which was about 6.5 foot wide and 12 foot deep. Couldn't walk round bed which was straight inside door - only one bedside table. It was really horrible and felt like a prison cell. They told me all the rooms were of the same size. Dining room closed on both nights of my stay which meant I had to go out to find somewhere to eat. Decided to cut my losses and check out same day. Compensated for 4 days but this seemed inadequate for the poor experience.

"Unassuming, but e=really good hotel"
rwadelman, 10 Juillet 2019

The hotel met all of my expectations: clean, comfortable room, free parking, proximity to the Metro, Location in Jesmond, which is one on Newcastle's more interesting neighborhoods. I really have no major complaints. My only gripe would be needing to drag a heavy suitcase up two narrow flights of stairs, but they did offer assistance. They offer free parking, but it is very limited, which they openly disclosed. One night i returned after all of the spots were filled. The street had plenty of open spaces but is by permit only. The hotel saved the day by letting me use its permit.

"very clean, lovely staff, great breakfast but sleep quality poor"
ukbod, 25 Juin 2019

We stayed just one night for a family visit but could not fault the cleanliness, polite helpful staff, nice room and bathroom. The breakfast was varied and the hot food was well cooked. Parking is limited and not secure. The TV and free wifi were both very good. The only real issue we has was the beds and pillows were very hard leading to fitful sleeping. The inroom tea was Twinings and maybe it was the water but it didnt taste very nice.

"Very warm welcome"
susancO6000BC, 12 Juin 2019

We have stayed at the New Kent for the last twelve years to visit our daughter. Always consistent standard and excellent value for money. Very warm welcome. Excellent location for the Metro. Lovely breakfast.

"Great location, very good value."
AJSendall, 07 Juin 2019

Although the room was a bit small, it was clean and well provisioned. All staff members were extremely helpful. The location is very good with many quality restaurants close by and Newcastle City centre a short cab ride away.

"Grand"
Jonny-Northerner, 04 Juin 2019

Stayed here after a gig at The Sage. Limited parking at the back of the hotel & one disabled spot, sandwiched between two normal spaces at the front - this needs a bit more thought as a disabled driver would barely have been able to open their car doors if they'd have parked there. Getting checked in was slow, as there only seemed to be one person on duty, room was okay but bathroom was amazing, & pretty new. We didn't eat dinner there but breakfast was great: decent choice of kit & veggie breakfast option were the highlights.

"Excellent"
orchid028, 02 Juin 2019

We stayed here for 2 nights, Friday and Saturday, what can I say apart from excellent! Great location, nice hotel, rooms are very nice and well equipped, the staff on reception and lovely lady serving our breakfast were superb and so friendly - nothing was to much trouble. We had our little dog with us and was made welcome. If I was being really picky it would have been great if the dog was allowed in the bar, we would have stayed in then. It wasn't a big deal as there are plenty of options locally, would definitely stay there again and recommend. Thank you for such a great stay.

"A great find..."
Lindyla, 01 Juin 2019

Was looking for a hotel that was close to the Freeman Hospital... I can highly recommend this hotel... Very friendly staff, hotel very clean and tidy although there is not lift I didn't find the stairs to steep or hard to climb and I walk with a stick and just took my time. I called ahead to see if they had a room with a walk in shower which the did. Room very clean and tidy, nice large sunny room. Nice to have chairs and table so somewhere other than the bed to sit... Found the bed to be very comfortable, tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom was perfect and it looks like it has just been refitted, lovely rainfall shower and a walk-in. Although I only stayed a night I would have been very happy to stay longer... The breakfast was included in my stay... You could have a cooked breakfast and also continental, good selection of fresh fruit, cereal, meats and the coffee was good... All the staff I met were fantastic, the lady on reception ( sorry I didn't catch your name) was so helpful in calling cabs for me so I could get beck to the Freeman... Cab fare £3-50 - £4-00... Book direct with Best Western or call the hotel... You will get a better rate.. So overall I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Newcastle stay"
Inspire22939699488, 30 Mai 2019

Excellent room and good value. For a Bank holiday it was quite, which surprised me as it was a very good standard and all staff were excellent, I had never stayed in Newcastle before but if I do I would definetely stay here again.

"Friendly and comfortable"
Bobby H, 24 Mai 2019

Everything in room worked, room was clean, breakfast was excellent and varied, the bar meals are exceptional. All the reception ladies were really knowledgeable and very friendly, breakfast room staff friendly and efficient. This was one of my best BW stays

"Do not stay here"
Mrsf1984usa, 22 Mai 2019

Wrongly accused of smoking in the room, because a cigarette butt was in the bin (from my pocket as they had no bin outside) charged £50 via card. No customer service at all, dismissive when contacted about the charge. Avoid!

"Great base for the City"
Terence B, 12 Mai 2019

Went up for a rugby weekend the hotel was clean and tidy plus the staff were exceptionally pleasant and welcoming. Walkable distance to/from the Metro station (West Jesmond). Would recommend to anyone wanting to spend the weekend in Newcastle.

"Lovely"
tracyb25, 03 Mai 2019

My husband and I have stayed here a few times for appointments at the Freeman hospital. The rooms are always spotless and of a good size. The bathrooms are lovely and modern. The best bit about this hotel are the staff and the food. The staff are amazing nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is gorgeous big portions and not over priced. I have stayed in 2 other hotels in the area which charge a lot more for their rooms and believe me The New Kent is by far the best of the 3 in my opinion. The only downside there is no lift so if you have problems with stairs its not ideal.

"Comfortable and Good Value"
Odyssey03245762215, 24 Mars 2019

Stayed 2 nights as my partner was having an operation at the Freeman's hospital. Comfortable room, very clean, and bathroom decorated to a high standard. Great location, but limited parking. A lot of steep stairs to climb with our bags but other than that I was pleased with our stay, would book again.

"Friendly, could have been better"
MyReview186361, 08 Mars 2019

Fine for a short stay. The room was basic but clean. The bathroom had been refurbished and was good. The beds were not particularly comfortable. Breakfast however was very good although the service was not great (friendly but not very competant). The staff on reception were friendly and helpful. Our room was at the back so there was no road noise.

"Clean, quiet and comfortable"
I4392DQdavidw, 03 Mars 2019

Stayed here twice recently for appointments at Freeman Hospital - not far away. Located at the north end of Osborne Road and therefore away from the livelier part this was ideal for the job. The people in command could not have been more helpful, the rooms were warm and spotless, the breakfast was just what was wanted, all for a very reasonable price. Couldn't really fault it and would thoroughly recommend it. Thanks to all at the New Kent. Carry on.

"Great overnight stay."
alice1966, 22 Février 2019

Very easy walk from Jesmond metro station,( about 5 minutes), while visiting family. Clean, well cared for single room with a full size bath/ shower in the ensuite...more room than I expected for a single bedroom.Great welcome and courtesy from all staff.Extremely good value as I booked on the day.I didn't have breakfast as I was meeting my family, but it looked good value for money.Good location opposite a lovely church with pretty grounds and 2 minutes walk from the upmarket shops and bars of Osborne Rd. Meals available in the evenings and morning coffee/ tea. Good bar area.

"Excellent value and location"
Mobile809159, 18 Février 2019

This hotel was excellent value for money. It was clean and comfortable with friendly staff. We liked the location. It was good for local shops and restaurants. Convenient for the university and the metro to go into town. There were less than 10 parking places and very restricted parking in the nearby streets. Our room 1 was fine but could have benefited from moving the desk to make it easier to work at. There were only two accessible sockets and everything seemed to be hard wired. With most people now having at least two devices needing charged and maybe keeping one by the bed that isn't enough. Some of the photos suggest other rooms have been modernised so maybe that is in hand. The cooked breakfast was reasonable but I didn't find the cold selection particularly attractive. I'm perhaps being a bit over critical. For the price it was an excellent option. I'd stay there again and recommend it to others.

"Fab value for money"
EMEE1007, 27 Janvier 2019

The hotel is in West Jesmond and at the quiet end of Osbourne Road. This means you benefit from being very close to student houses (perfect for visiting) but you also get a peaceful nights sleep as you're away from the bars.

"Lovely lunch"
Geordiejoan, 23 Janvier 2019

Came here with a group of elderly ladies for our lunch. We were greeted at the door and shown to our tables. Our drinks order was taken and as our choice of meals had been pre ordered we were served quickly. The food was excellent, served hot, very tasty and the staff were very patient and efficient. We were never hurried and I had the beef which just fell apart, everyone said they had really enjoyed their meal. We were the only ones in the restaurant so I can't comment what it would be like when it was busy, being a hotel outside the town centre I suspect this is mainly used for business people and weekenders, nevertheless we had an excellent lunch and I'm sure we will return next year.

"Good and Bad"
LizzicatM, 14 Janvier 2019

The bad Very limited parking, about 5 - 6 spots, so if you leave you may not have anywhere to park when you return. The restaurant is musty smelling and needs an urgent overhaul, so we skipped dinner and ate out. Breakfast was barely there, a few small offerings but at least the tea and coffee were hot. Checking was average, but there is no lift. We had to walk up 39 steep stairs, it was a maze of corridors, turn left up stairs turn right up stairs walk along up more stairs. We couldn't carry our luggage up the stairs, so we unpacked what we needed in the car, and brought it to our room in shopping bags. The good The room was spacious and beds comfortable so we had a good nights sleep, also chairs to sit on. The bathroom was spacious too.

"One night stay for interview nearby"
Lauralemonjelly, 13 Janvier 2019

The room was really reasonable. Stayed for one night due to attending interview at the Hospital nearby. I arrived later on in the evening vey tierd. Parking up behind the hotel (free of charge) was easy and check in nice and quick. My single room was immaculate, nice white clean bed sheets and towels. The bathroom and shower was lovely. I would stay again, very pleasant hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful.

"Excellent and very reasonably priced."
Getaway59256483202, 30 Décembre 2018

WOW! STUNNING PLACE, will be using on every other visit to Newcastle upon Tyne. Extremely clean bedding ect. Spotless room. Wonderful Northumbria Breakfast.Very friendly helpful staff, with local directions and information. Would be silly not to use again.

"Has potential"
No1BigDave80, 11 Décembre 2018

I've given it 3 stars but could be a 4 with a little work. Let me start by saying that everyone who worked there was very polite and helpful even if a few mistakes were made. Great manners and attentive keep up the good work. The food lets the place down! The staff will know who wrote this because of my dairy allergy (not lactose intolerant). They all tried to be as accommodating as possible which was lovely. The waitress return from the kitchen explaining the chef could pretty much do anything on the menu dairy free, which sounded great but after further discussions in reality that would mean half a dish, missing key ingredients/ accompaniments. In my opinion chips or sweet potatoes should be well cooked and crisp. Mine were not. Bruschetta should be browned in a pan or griddled with chard lines with a touch of extra virgin olive oil, if that's how you're cooking it. My bruschetta was warm and absolutely swamped in cheap disgusting oil! Change the oil and brown the bruschetta and you have a good dish. The Salmon was thankfully not too overcooked. The dish was ok. Usually I would mention all of this directly at the time but I was very hungry, tired and it had taken such a long time to find out what I could eat, I ate and went to bed. I will be sending my feedback direct to the hotel. I'm a great believer in constructive criticism rather than behind back bad mouthing! Breakfast was awful. Had a lovely greeting and good service. Sausage had a small line of browning on it. Needs to be better cooked, brown all over. It wasn't a nice flavour either. Get some decent meaty sausages with texture rather than cheap sausages! Bacon was ok, nice flavour but needs some colour. Mushrooms were oily. Why put cheap oil on mushrooms other than decent olive oil if you have to?! Almost tasted deep fried. Sorry I'm an oil snob, I hate cheap catering oils which repeat on me, like it these did. The hash browns require colour and texture, another 5 or 10 mins in the oven. Colour and texture required. Colour is flavour!!! Beans were lukewarm. I asked for no fried bread and toast instead. I ended up with fried bread and no toast. Again the waiter was very polite and apologetic. Sorry I'm a foodie and have lots of food knowledge and experience. It's one of my passions. Also with my allergy it's also one of my frustrations. The rooms are basic and for the price probably reflects industry rate. In my opinion my mattress was too hard (personal taste) but it also felt lumpy and I could feel the internals. General cleanliness is ok but requires more attention to detail. TV remote, phone, switches, wood work, welcome books and folders all need more attention. There is rubbish (empty bottles in flower pots) and random fence supports and bricks down one side of the property which doesn't look good. My room was cold and the room has system heating not independent heating. Apparently it comes on at 16:00 but I was cold all evening. It was a better temperature in the morning. I also didn't get a full bath of hot water and as such I didn't get to chill out in the bath as I like to. The bathroom had just been refurbished and looked nice. The shower is very good. It is in a nice location which is not too noisy. Great staff. Has potential. Catering needs a review. Overall attention to deal required. I would stay again but I wouldn't eat there again.

"Hidden Gem"
Tour03143272016, 11 Décembre 2018

I enjoyed the pleasant walk over the 1.5 miles from the City centre down Osborne Road to keep myself in shape, suddenly stumbling on this small Best Western Hotel. The walk may be too much for most people who will prefer the 10 minute bus or Metro train service to West Jesmond.(or into the City) instead, The immediate area of Jesmond is one of the best parts of Newcastle away from the City, with quality architecture and period buildings alongside plenty of restaurants and bars to cater for the cosmopolitan visitor and student population alike. The hotel itself, though relatively small for a Best Western, offers a warm welcome, good standards, and service with a smile at a surprisingly modest price. The Restaurant is very good in terms of layout and comfort, an excellent menu, and the staff helpful at all times. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped too, with hot water permanently available. Single room occupants may find the otherwise comfortable room a little small, and/or the bed a little narrow, so depending on your size you might consider an upgrade to a double worthwhile for the small extra. The WiFi is excellent, TV very good, decor, fixtures and fittings all clean and well presented with everything functioning as it should, If you want a decent small hotel that can provide good service, along with the cleanliness, comfort, good food and drink- all the main essentials that you need for a short few days stay- try this smaller Best Western. It was a pleasant experience, I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

"Family Party Visit."
Graham J, 06 Décembre 2018

We stayed here aas we were attending a party in the City centre. It is a bit out and we had problems in getting into the City as traffice was chaos. (SaturdayNight). The hotel was ok and a reasonable size room, clean and tidy and pleasantly decorated. Breakfast was buffet style but waitress took orders for hot food, toast and coffee. The full breakfast was swell presented and speedily served. Thought the choice of fruit and Yoghurt was poor to have with cereal, but tha'ts just me. Overall for a one night stay it is fine.

"Great stay and location"
996garryc, 17 Octobre 2018

Great stay and location close to A1 but far enough away for noise avoidance. Good location to other restaurants and bars too. Great staff, clean and tidy rooms and tea coffee facilities in room. Downside is limited bar service so unable to enjoy drink in hotel in evening with closure at 9pm only! Would definitely recommend and stay again.

"Wonderful wedding reception."
Diane C, 24 Septembre 2018

My daughter's wedding reception there on Saturday was wonderful. The food was great, the room looked lovely and the staff were really helpful. Lots of the wedding guests stayed at the hotel and were also full of praise. Thanks to everyone who helped to make the day so special.

"Great hotel"
538timd, 23 Septembre 2018

Spent a night here whilst in Newcastle. Staff really friendly. Easy check in. Parking a bit limited. Rooms were clean. TV and WiFi. Good breakfast choice. Good location for bars and restaurants. Recommended.

"Quite happy here"
CLB1968, 17 Septembre 2018

I stayed here after what proved to be a very stressful day. The staff were very welcoming, the room was clean, bed and bed linen of nice quality. Bathroom extremely clean with towels and toiletries. Downstairs of this hotel is a bit tired. However, it's quiet and I felt very comfortable as single, female traveller. Its good value for money. Parking was fine. Would be happy to return again.

"Convenient for the Freeman Hospital"
Patricia C, 16 Septembre 2018

This hotel was chosen for its situation & facilities! I needed a hotel which offered B & B and evening meal, convenient for the Freeman Hospital! I booked a double room with Bath! I was not impressed with the bedroom as the bed was against the wall hence it was only easily accessed from one side! The bedroom was small compared to the lovely bathroom! It was clean! The staff were all very pleasant & helpful! The food was good! Fortunately I didn't have a car as there was limited parking.

"A great choice for a short or a longer stay"
Richard A, 14 Septembre 2018

A really good, friendly hotel, giving great service from very nice people; and offering very good value. In a beautiful part of Newcastle, and a great choice for a short or a longer stay. Thoroughly deserves its Certificate of Excellence and well worth seeking out.

"Cheap and cheerful"
Maddy U, 25 Août 2018

Met by lovely staff who were very polite and helpful. No lift so it was hard to manage the stairs with two dogs and a huge suitcase! The room was absolutely tiny but the bathroom was obviously newly renovated with a big bath, sink and toilet. Above the bath we're two shower heads, a rainforest and a more powerful handheld shower which was perfect for use on the dogs after a very smelly manure incident. The area surrounding the hotel was OK but there were some nice walks nearby. I would recommend this hotel for people who want a couple of nights away without breaking the bank. I will be visiting again.

"Jesmond "
Richard R, 01 Août 2018

Good position for Metro, restaurants, bars and bus. Room 3 large, good bathroom and clean. Staff very efficient, knowledgable and the front desk is manned 24 hours. We enjoyed a visit to Jesmond Deane and caught the Metro to Tynemouth with its splendid station and seaside.

"Best hotel experience ever"
Karen C, 31 Juillet 2018

Such a beautiful clean restful hotel with exceptionally kind and interested staff and SO quiet. A peaceful area and peaceful hotel. Breakfast was as much as you could eat and cooked food arrived so quickly. Bar was so clean and fresh and welcoming. Had a couple of drinks either end of my short stay. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Best hotel experience ever.

"NIce place and not too expensive"
Sally1862, 09 Juillet 2018

OH WHEN WILL THESE HOTELS PROVIDE PLUGS/USB BEDSIDE FOR PHONES & ELECTRONICS... PLEASE? We stayed here for 3 nights over the weekend whilst I was on a course. The hotel was very easy to find with a small amount of parking at the rear which had a space on our arrival. On check in we were upgraded to a family room (there was only two of us) which was on the top floor. The room had a double bed and two singles and a chair. The bathroom was new and fresh. Considering it was a family room there was not much room, especially around the foot of the double bed, ok for two but a squeeze for a family. Very few plugs, we bought an extension lead. Our stay was over a very hot few days and the room was constantly stiffling as it was south facing and had a flat roof (seen from the outside), the window was quite high and there was no air flow through at all, even at night. I understand they cannot control the weather but my goodness it was hot in that room. The lower floors were much cooler. The building is nice but the inside is devoid of all character due to the interior decoration. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection.

"First overnight stay while in Newcastle working"
JonnySunshine, 19 Juin 2018

Great little hotel in the centre of the Jesmond area of Newcastle. Decided to give this place a try while working in the local area. Stayed on a Tuesday night and hotel was fairly quiet. Room was basic, but comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly too. Hotel was just round the corner from the area where lots of bars and restaurants are located, but far enough away that you could not hear any noise. Would be happy to stay here again.

"Great Stay"
LouB0404, 15 Mai 2018

I visited here for three nights with work and stayed in a front facing single room. The bed was very comfortable and the room was tidy and clean. There was a wardrobe with a trolley for my suitcase, so everything could be tidied away without making the room look cluttered. I also used the desk to continue with work on my laptop. The hotel is located about a 30 minute walk from the city centre, or 10 minute drive. Taxis are about £5-7 and there's a bus stop opposite the hotel. Parking is limited but it is not impossible to find a space. The area around the hotel is mainly residential but there are some nice restaurants and shops, plus a Tesco Express. There are lovely walks around the allotments nearby. Staff were all friendly and obliging of any enquiries. I ate in the breakfast area on the last morning and this was really good. I did not hear any noise, other than the last night I was aware of next door snoring but it didn't keep me awake. The walls just appear to be thin. The shower could also have been hotter but again that's personal preference.

"Noisy stay"
Mrs_hard_to_please, 13 Avril 2018

I stayed here for 2 nights. The single room was small but spotlessly clean and had everything I needed. Unfortunately the noise from other guests spoiled my stay. There were several workmen staying on the same corridor. On the first night 2 of them had a long and loud argument / fight which only ended when another guest called reception and the receptionist intervened. On the 2nd night they returned to the hotel at around 10pm laughing and joking and making a great deal of noise although it was fairly short lived. However between 11.45 and 12.15 "Bob" tried several times to rouse Jake, he started fairly quietly but in the end was knocking loudly and shouting and swearing( which is how I know their names). The rooms are not very soundproof and there are creaky floorboards in the corridor so everytime someone walked past I was disturbed. Not really the fault of the hotel and they do have a notice asking guests to be quiet after 10pm but I didn't get a decent nights sleep here so won't be returning.

"An oasis in the middle of the rabble"
Mick C, 08 Avril 2018

I used this hotel for one night and was happy to find it was not along with the rabble using hotels in Jesmond Road. Parking was another matter though, very limited. Bad prices were not too bad but I feel the food was overpriced and limited in choice. The staff were friendly and helpful and that is what made my stay sufferable.

"no internet and bath plg not working"
Geoff B, 05 Avril 2018

Helpful staff and good value stay. My stay for one night was spoilt by faulty bath plug and no internet. I tried to book a future one stay in July but did not think it was worth the £70 tariff. There is other accommodation that is better value than this.

"Best Place to Stay in Newcastle"
mihaistefanp, 03 Avril 2018

All the details about the hotel are great ( clean, fresh smell, helpful staff, good food, fair internet). If you have any problem that needs to be solved, the manager will go more than the extra mile to solve that for you if the rest of the staff does not have the authority to do it. I love to stay there.

"Fantastic overnight stay"
Ollythered, 03 Mars 2018

Needed to be in Newcastle early for a hospital appointment and was worried about the snow in our village at 6.00 in the morning. Made a last minute booking at a great rate and enjoyed a lovely stay at the New Kent. We were given a newly refurbished room, friendly, helpful staff, really comfortable beds and a great shower with lovely thick towels. Parking was no problem. Didnt eat there as restaurant was closed in the evening and we left in the morning before breakfast was served. It wasnt a problem as there are loads of restaurants nearby. Will definitely stay again.

"Great breakfast, poor sealing window and lack of parking"
Mcouchard, 12 Février 2018

Starting with the positives the breakfast was amazing get the full English definitely worth it. Room was clean and warm but too warm as radiator was on full which I didn't notice until waking up due to overheating. The room 6 was on the front and the window wasn't well sealed and the road noise affected my sleep even with ear plugs. The parking is basically sufficient for three cars only at front and five at rear and onstreet is permit, so not ideal unless you want to go before 7:30am in the morning.

"Winter Saver Trip Away"
SueSG1, 03 Février 2018

Stayed here for two nights. The hotel staff were friendly. The hotel room was very hot when we arrived but like most hotel rooms we stay in we just turned off the heating and opened the window. The room was clean and a good size. Breakfast was included and had a good selection of continental and cooked foods. The only problem we had is that they do not have toilet brushes in the bathrooms. So can make the toilet difficult to keep clean.

"Excellent hotel, lovely staff, great food"
Greg H, 01 Février 2018

Stayed here for a couple of nights on business and had a great stay. Room was a very good size and the bed was comfortable. Bathroom was very nice and modern. Staff were very friendly especially the lady on the evening who works extremely hard (sorry don't know her name). Food was excellent too. Would definitely stay again.

"Slept in my ski jacket zipped all the way up and with winter tights that I'd worn all day, underneath my pyjamas"
lilapple, 21 Janvier 2018

Difficult to review this place because the restaurant and reception are lovely and the staff very helpful, but there are problems with the building which made my stay intolerable. The main problem is no heating in the room which I was told resulted by someone not resetting it. There is snow and ice on the ground outside. Surely a Best Western hotel should have a reliable heating system??? The bathroom and bedroom radiators were on max but only lukewarm when I came in from work just before midnight. I (wrongly) assumed they would heat up throughout the night. As a precaution, I kept my coat nearby just in case and good thing as the radiators and the room were utterly ice cold at 8am on Sunday morning. When I garnered up the strength to reach out (fully clothed and in my zipped up coat) from under the duvet and call down to reception, they said they'd reset it and it would be warm in a half hour. When I last left the room to check out at 10:40, the air was still frosty, my hands and nose cold, and the room radiator (still on max) was finally getting warm but was by no means warm enough. Furthermore, the drains in the sink and bath both run slow and if you don't wash your hands fast enough, the sink will overflow. Thin curtains let in light in the morning. Walls so thin that even though I wore earplugs, I still woke at 6am to a clear and unhappy conversation from another room (perhaps they were exhausted and annoyed from freezing all night too). Good points: Hot water Firm mattress Crisp sheets Thoroughly clean Friendly staff Good breakfast Would I stay here again? Only if I didn't want to sleep.

"All just a bit tired"
Dakles, 08 Janvier 2018

The hotel is very easy to get to by car, located on Osborne Road in Jesmond, and is only a few minutes walk from West Jesmond metro station for access into the City Centre and beyond. There is limited free parking at the hotel. To be fair our room was fine, basic but clean and tidy, and the bathroom was a very good size. The place was quiet and we had a good night's sleep. The rooms are provided with tea, coffee & biscuits plus liquid soap dispensers in the bathroom. For us the place is more like and old-fashioned B&B and our over-riding impression was one of everything being a bit tired. The stairs and corridors are totally uninspiring and the rooms just a little lacking in anything special. Our bathroom also had a smell of drains which wasn't all that pleasant. We didn't use the bar or take breakfast but those areas did look to be nicely decorated and furnished. It's not an expensive place to stay but, equally, I wouldn't want to pay any more.

"Good hotel in good location"
alan c, 03 Janvier 2018

A two night break between Christmas and New Year was very enjoyable. The hotel is in a good location not far from the metro and close to city centre and local restaurants. The hotel was clean with friendly and helpful staff and the included breakfast was very good. The only downside is the lack of a lift and the restaurant was closed in the evening during our stay.

"Consistently good"
JohnandMakela, 31 Décembre 2017

I've been staying at this hotel regularly for business use over the last couple of years. The hotel is like an old guest-house and a bit of a tardis - it's much bigger than you think. Don't expect anything flash here, what you do get a brilliant, friendly staff, good wholesome food, comfortable rooms and a genuine North East welcome. Only downside for me is the limited parking, though there are options on the surrounding streets. The area is really nice with a lot of busy bars and restaurants along the main road.

"Great Hotel and staff"
trevorw798, 18 Décembre 2017

A very good and pleasentstay for the 2 days I was there a great breakfast good food all round really staff were very attentive and polite I would stop there again no problem cosat was very reasonable as well

"Best Western New Kent Hotel"
736tricias, 11 Décembre 2017

The hotel has good facilities and friendly, helpful staff. The menu in the bar had plenty of choice, the food was well cooked and reasonably priced Comfortable beds in clean rooms Wifi disappointing, wouldn't work in one of the 2 room I had

"What service?????"
james854, 01 Décembre 2017

The hotel does need updating. The experience when it came to ordering food defies belief. The 'waitress' literally just threw our cutlery on to the table, dropped the chips off the serving dish and offered a pint of John Smiths containing a third ale and 2/3 foam and plonked it down. The staff are cut to the bare essentials as one poor traveller found when her taxi bill rose by over £2.00 as nobody was around for to check -in despite her ringing the bell off and on.

"One night stay"
clarkielondon, 26 Novembre 2017

Hard hotel to review as the hotel had a old guest house feel about the place in need of updating, but the staff made the difference, very friendly and went about making you feel welcome. Situated a good 10/15min cab ride outside the main city centre (25mins on the night we stayed due to the traffic) so worth bearing in mind if you need to travel in or hoping to stay ‘local'. The particular room I stayed in was reasonably comfortable, but the walls are extremely thin so was kept awake by neighbouring rooms chatter and snoring! The room itself was basic, but clean and the kitchen provided a good home cooked breakfast. The three star rating is probably fair for this standard of hotel, but would offer four for the staff that work within.

"Will be back again nice friendly place to stay"
Martin G, 20 Novembre 2017

Nice hotel with good food and friendly staff good location and nice and warm rooms if a bit small as a single. The bar and bar food was very nice and the burgers looked amazing. I had the lamb one night and the Lakeland steak the next both were excellent. This is my preferred hotel in Newcastle when away on business.

"Excellent Hotel"
Russell B, 29 Octobre 2017

This a great place to stay, great food, nice rooms and friendly staff. The restaurant is excellent with a very goood menu. A special thank you to Nickolas and Bif. Highly recommended ???? Reasonable prices too.

"Amazing staff,Amazing hotel"
Tom T, 24 Octobre 2017

I've been to the Kent hotel now for a few time in a row, and every time i visit i am always welcomed by the friendly staff at the Kent hotel. The single rooms are small but not to small where on suitcase fills the room up, the bathrooms are modern and a nice size. breakfast was nice but sadly they didn't do eggs Benedict with salmon. and i have to say thatch the only fault i had with the hotel was the salmon. WILL be back again. this hotel has had a few parties when i was there but they don't put non party guest in the rooms that are directly above the restaurant where they have the parties at.

"Exceeded expectations!"
Laurence B, 24 Octobre 2017

Stayed whilst on business in Newcastle. Arrived late after long drive. Staff most welcoming, ate in as too tired to venture out. Good choice of menu and quality. Stayed in one of the refurbished rooms, most acceptable. Yes the walls a little thin and floorboards squeaky but heh for the price represented great value for money. Would certainly recommend and use again

"Family Holiday"
scotteK9461YH, 16 Octobre 2017

Drove to Newcastle to visit family. Stayed in a family room at the New Kent Hotel. There is no lift so had to haul heavy bags up three flights of stairs. The room whilst comfortable was a little dated and required updating. The bathroom was modern and clean. The double bed was uncomfortable and appears to require replacing. Had breakfast in the restaurant, which was good. The only issue I could raise was that the coffee was warm and service at times a bit slow.

"Weekend in Newcastle "
Joanna D, 25 Septembre 2017

Excellent location on Osborne road within walking distance to lots of popular bars and restaurants. As it's a bit further away it is quieter. Reception area and hallways old fashioned but room was very clean. Quite small room but perfect for a long weekend, very clean. Very reasonably priced.

"Convenient location to visit Newcastle"
HolidayForUs, 18 Septembre 2017

We chose the Best Western as one of us had stayed here before through work. The hotel is very conveniently placed as it is a five-minute walk from the West Jesmond metro station (around forty minutes from the airport by metro and around ten minutes from the railway station) and is within a short walk from three supermarkets. Our room was spacious with a double bed, tea/coffee/biscuits/kettle, TV, free Wi-Fi, wardrobe, desk, en-suite with basin, shower/bath. We had everything we needed and our room was quiet at night, even when there was a wedding party on. We did not try breakfast (although it looked nice) but bought some food from the supermarket and ate in our room. We did have an evening meal in the bar, which was tasty. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, no-frills, hotel close to the metro, the New Kent is ideal.

"A little hidden gem."
Bigmatt1724, 18 Septembre 2017

I'm not the world's most traveled hotel user - now and then I get to go away with work or maybe a night in London once a year, but usually I'm a one or two night guest at most. My criteria for a good hotel then, is - clean, comfortable and a decent night's sleep and that's about it. On a recent trip for work, I had to spend a night in Newcastle, with all booking done through my organisation and by someone else on my behalf, so no control whatsoever about where I stayed. I've stayed in a few different chain hotels before and in reality, there's not much to choose between most of them - generic, corporate, they do what it says on the tin. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the Best Western New Kent Hotel in Jesmond. It's a leafy suburb of Newcastle and the hotel is situated on a road that skirts a very nice, well to do area of the city. Despite being on a through route (bus stop outside and lots of other hotels along the road), it's actually quite a quiet hotel, and although I was given a corner room at the top front of the building, I found there was no intrusion from traffic noise. The rest of the surrounding area is exclusively residential, so there's not a huge amount of traffic outside. There is free parking on two aspects of the hotel - not a massive amount, but despite taking our hire car into town for the evening, we got back and were able to use the same space at the rear of the hotel, so clearly not a majhor issue. There appeared to be plenty of on road parking available nearby anyway, so other than a short walk with luggage, I wouldn't forsee a problem if the hotel car park was full. The staff were friendly and informal, and although the hotel could do with a bit of a refurb in some areas, it was clean and the room I was given was comfortable with a double aspect view over the church grounds and a quiet residential side street. The room was well appointed with a small but functional en-suite, a comfortable double bed and sufficient space to store my luggage without tripping over it. Complimentary tea coffee and biscuits were in the room along with a small kettle. I even quite liked the fact that the bedroom floor sloped down slightly from the window to the bed - it gave it a quaint, quirky feel! I can't assess the restaurant food as we ate out that night, but the next morning breakfast was served buffet style and was very nice indeed. The hotel is actually only a short drive from the city centre, so if you have a car, you can explore the city easily, but use the hotel as a quiet base away from the hubbub of city life. I really liked this hotel, so much so that if I ever find myself overnighting in Newcastle again, this would be my preferred hotel over and above any large city center location. It's a big, sprawling city, so I'm not sure about exploring on foot from this location, but being on a bus route, I imagine it's not too arduous to use public transport as an alternative to driving everywhere. Over all, a really nice place to stay and one that I'd happily recommend.

"Very impressed "
ChelsfieldGuy, 16 Septembre 2017

Stayed overnight, summary is; friendly staff, good breakfast, the room I was in was spacious and had new fixtures/fittings. Car park was limited, there are about 7 car spaces, 2 in front and 5 out back, luckily I got the last one. Only issue is that the floors are very creaky which means if someone is staying in the room above and decides to walk around at night it may wake up up if you are directly on floor below.

"Modern bathroom and friendly service"
pegwork, 13 Septembre 2017

I stayed here for one night while in Newcastle for business. After having some terrible experiences recently from larger, more anonymous hotels I was pleased to have far better service, atmosphere and amenities at this hotel. The bathroom was newly refurbished with a modern finish and waterfall shower which made the stay and the early start that much nicer, the dinner options were varied and I the fish and chips I ordered was perfectly presented, delicious and also a generous portion size.

"Great North Run"
SmartDamo, 12 Septembre 2017

The good bits: -they've had a refurb in the rooms and all our clean and fresh looking,(when compared with my wife's stay two years ago) -the staff are so friendly and helpful -the area is superb for nice places to eat -there's limited parking -it's about 25 minutes to start line of GNR by foot. -an excellent breakfast cafe called Harvest just around the corner! -they have travel cots upon request -menu looks good -bar is clean and tidy with a good selection. The bad bits: -my mum's car was broken into out the back, so please don't leave anything of value in there. -no lift and a narrow staircase, so it's a nightmare with a heavy bag -the walls are very thin, we had a very noisy snorer (louder than me) in the next room who woke me and my wife up through the wall (we were in room 10, this may not be the case everywhere) he also woke us slamming his door at 2:30am (nice to have soft close doors) -BW elite members still offered late check out if available. -my mum was on top floor and it was a bit of a hike to room 20 -I'm not a big fan of the crockery and cutlery being washed up in the loo by housekeeping, but this is just a personal preference

Nice hotel in a pleasant area with friendly staff. Lovely dining area, modern bathrooms, quiet area Some off street parking and a decent range of drinks available. I recommend the Northumberland Breakfast to get your day started

"Better than I could have hoped for"
Steve295, 16 Août 2017

Here overnight on business. Checkin was good, room modern and tastefully finished (a little tatty here and there). A nice view of the park. Dinner and breakfast was excellent. Couldn't really fault the visit.

"Good value, friendly hotel"
AWandCG, 16 Août 2017

Room was comfortable, very clean although a bit compact. Good shower and bath. Very helpful staff; when we arrived the chap on reception carried some of our luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Couldn't have been more helpful. Didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. Dog friendly in so far as dogs allowed at £15 each for whole stay. Parking easy.

"our stay"
David H, 20 Juillet 2017

We stayed here as part of our plan to stay and visit the coat of England. We arrived on a very wet summers day and only 12 C and found the hotel has no lift, we were given directions to our room which was on the top floor of several landings as it appears to be a number of property's knocked through. The room was very small and the small window was high up on the wall and you could only see the sky, we where very disappointed. I complained to reception who showed us a very nice room on the first floor. I would ask why we where given the tired small room when this nice one was available. On the positive side the staff were helpful and friendly after. The rating we have given reflects the poor room we had first we feel we should have been given the good one without asking.

"Outstanding in Service and Hospitality!"
SarniaCherie, 19 Juillet 2017

I was in Newcastle at the International Transplant Centre in the Freeman Hospital. New Kent Hotel was the closest 3 star hotel -about a 20min walk or a £3 taxi ride. The major surgery kept me in hospital for a month and my dear wife stayed the whole time at the New Kent Hotel. They were outstanding in their service and hospitality. I joined her for the fifth and final week before the Prof said we could fly home to the Channel Islands. These are genuine and kind people offering a first class service in a building that is starting to show its age and maintenance issues. We had a problem with water not draining from my our bathroom and the maintenance guy could not have been more discreet or helpful. Excellent breakfasts, bar and evening food. We will certainly be there again each time I have to return to the Freeman. You can trust this establishment.

"Excellent value"
Neil J, 14 Juillet 2017

This has been my first choice Newcastle hotel for many years now. It is located in the lovely suburb of Jesmond close to all amenities, public transport and green spaces. Good value rooms and friendly staff make it easy to recommend.

"Lovely location and very friendly staff"
Chris C, 10 Juillet 2017

I used this hotel for a 6 night stay to generally explore the Newcastle area. I had checked with a friend before booking that Jesmond was a nice safe area to stay in and I certainly was not disappointed. The hotel is in a lovely location facing a small park and St. George's Church with lots of good restaurants a few minutes walk away. There were very nice and interesting walks up the roads behind the church towards Jesmond Dene. Very convenient at less than 10 minutes walk to West Jesmond Metro Station and also a bus stop straight outside the hotel. A small Waitrose supermarket a few minutes walk away. I found this relatively small hotel provided me with a very relaxing stay. Although on the back with no view, my room was of a reasonable size, with very comfortable bed, large screen tv, 2 chairs and an adequate shower and bathroom. The room was very clean and well supplied with tea, coffee and biscuits, and the free wifi worked very well. My only criticism would be that with only 2 very small windows the room ought to have had better lighting as it was very dark at times, especially for reading. The thing which made this hotel and the main reason why I will probably certainly return at some point in the future was the genuine friendliness of all of the staff. It was good to stay in a hotel mainly staffed with local Newcastle people, not Eastern Europeans, who welcomed you to their city and knew the area well. The breakfast was very good, with the cooked items cooked to order rather than standing getting cold on a buffet counter. I only had one evening meal in the hotel, as I like to eat out locally, but that was good and reasonably priced and again served by very friendly and helpful staff. Using the Metro or bus you could be in Newcastle City Centre within 20 minutes and the Metro was also very useful for exploring the coast around Tynemouth and Whitley Bay. Reasonably priced combined Metro/Bus tickets enabled me to travel around the area easily without needing my car. Travelling out to the museum at Beamish by public transport was very easy with just one easy change from Metro to bus at Gateshead. I recommend going out to spend a whole day at Beamish.

"Excellent - fab location"
jmilla17, 05 Juillet 2017

Stayed here for two nights beginning of July. Hotel is fab. Staff very friendly. Room excellent size and clean. Only slight issue was the lighting - was pretty dark when getting ready to go out. Free parking is excellent and location of hotel is perfect. When I'm in Newcastle I prefer to stay in jesmond as it's a great location for drinks and food and very handy to city centre. We also went to the races one night which was only 5 mins away by taxi x

"Great location for Hospital"
545TheBigJC, 24 Juin 2017

Wifi can be a bit rubbish in some of the rooms but excellent staff and bathrooms in each room. Go for a double over a single room, it is worth the extra cost. Staff are extremely friends and helpful and am going back again.

"Good and quiet location, good price"
Gianina2505, 15 Juin 2017

This hotel is located in a nice and quiet area, not very far from the city center, the staff is very helpful and friendly, rooms are very clean, but not so big. Our room was, generally, quiet, but sometime was noise, probably is a wooden building. Anyway, I would choose again this hotel, the price was good reported to location and services.

"Another lovely stay "
fjm1980, 24 Mai 2017

I have stayed at the new Kent on several occasions. The hotel is very close to the tennis club I attend for visually impaired tennis competitions. The rooms are clean and spacious. The breakfasts are excellent. Most of all the staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Short stay"
Lyndam62, 13 Mai 2017

I booked two rooms as my Dad was going to the nearby Freeman hospital for an operation. I asked if the rooms could be near each other as my elderly mother was nervous about staying on her own. The receptionist did try to accommodate us but my Mam also doesn't do stairs very well so she was on the first floor and I was on the second floor but we were both near the stairs so I wasn't too far away. The rooms were lovely and clean and the staff were very helpful. We didn't have breakfast after the first night as my Dad had to be at the hospital for 7.00 a.m., but my Mam and I did on the second day and it was lovely, everything was fresh, can definitely recommend. The car park is very small so I left my car there and got a taxi to the hospital, which was a good move as we weren't back until nearly 9.00 p.m. and wouldn't have got a parking place then. I would stay here again if we need to return to the hospital.

"Nice area"
Di55755, 30 Avril 2017

Nice area. Not close but within walking distance of the underground. Room was a good size and bright. Our first room had a very dirty toilet so we were moved very quickly. The second had long hairs stuck to the tiles over the bath and a long one near the plug hole. I let it go as we just wanted to enjoy our stay. I guess the cleaner had an off day! It was however, a lovely duel aspect room. It was rather noisy at night as the walls and ceiling seems to carry the sound through. There's a small car park and I don't know what happens when it's full but I guess parking near a big city is always difficult.

"Good value hotels in Newcastle are available"
Simon H, 23 Avril 2017

I was in Newcastle for one reason. And one reason only. Leeds United were playing away at St James' Park on a Friday evening. It was too long of a drive to make it up and back in a day (from Milton Keynes). So I needed somewhere to stay. I travelled on my own. Further research indicated that parking in Newcastle could be tricky, and to be honest I fancied a few pints at the game. So I needed a hotel that was pretty close to a Metro station. This hotel is about 5 minutes away from West Jesmond Metro station. West Jesmond Metro station is about 10 mins from Monument Metro Station on the same line. Monument Metro station is about 5 mins walk to St James. Box ticked. I then decided, as it was a long Easter weekend, that it would good to spend a few days exploring Newcastle and the surrounding area. I booked for 2 nights, but extended for a further night whilst at the hotel. The hotel itself is good. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. They provided directions to the Metro, chatted to me when at the bar after the game, and helped me with other useful information (ie how to get to the beach). The room (single bed and quite small) was very clean. If I was being picky, there were various fittings in the bathroom that could have used a bit of attention (toilet roll holder, door handle, shower gel holder). The shower was powerful and did the job. Towels were clean, soft and changed daily. To be honest I didn't spend much time in my room. I had no problem sleeping. It was quiet, dark and the bed was comfortable. Wifi also worked fine for me. I had to log in every time I used it, but had success using a laptop, iPad, and iPhone. I ate breakfast at the hotel on my first morning. I went with the cooked breakfast. It was cooked well and I enjoyed it. The coffee was ok - despite it being served in a large-ish pot, there was only enough coffee for 1 and a half small cups. I did get a pot refill with no problem however. The hotel does have limited free parking. I managed to get my car parked without a problem for my whole stay. I would recommend The Lonsdale pub next to the Metro station for a pint. They do various ales, and decent pub food. Also I drove to the beach (Tynemouth) in 20 mins from the hotel. I found the Surfcafe there, and ate breakfast there the following 2 mornings - just because I like being at the beach. :) There are plenty of bars and restaurants within close walking distance to the hotel. They looked pretty busy in the evening. I paid £50 ish a night. I would stay again.

"Friendly and helpful hotel"
Michael G, 23 Avril 2017

Pre-paid for accommodation in theory not allowing changes, but meeting dates were changed a late notice. Spoke to hotel staff and as they had vacancy were very accommodating and helpful allowing me to change dates without incurring any additional costs. Had booked a 'cosy double' room but found I had a full double on arrival. Handy for local bars and restaurants and Metro only few minutes walk away for access to Newcastle

"Average hotel"
stuartcH9345ER, 07 Avril 2017

Hotel parking is not very good, it is round the back of the hotel, and did not feel secure. I would suggest getting there early to ensure a parking space. High speed internet was non-existent in room 22 On the plus side there are plenty of bars, and places to eat within walking distance

"Good old fashioned Hotel"
martinsA4781WH, 06 Avril 2017

Good location in heart of Jesmond with plenty of bars and restaurants in short walking distance. Very limited car parking space mind. The hotel can be described as traditional insofar as a bit old fashioned and non corporate but is all the better for that. Clean and pleasant room. Nice modern bathroom. I experienced probably the warmest check in ever and all staff very helpful. The best bit, they still cook breakfast to order and it was perfect. Would recommend.

"Practical and Pleasant"
agdzzz_01, 05 Avril 2017

Staying in Newcastle for 3 nights. This hotel ticked the boxes - quiet, pleasant location but near to local shops, restaurants , had parking and near metro. Staff very pleasant on arrival and during stay and breakfast decent. Rooms clean and comfortable. Will stay again. Thanks

"Quiet central location"
susancO6000BC, 19 Février 2017

Always receive a very warm welcome. Brilliant location near metro but also quiet part of Osbourne Road.Lots of nice places to eat in the locality. Excellent value for money. Good standard of breakfast.

"One night stay"
19beth123, 14 Février 2017

Booked this hotel's Winter Sale Offer, as a half way point travelling up to the Scottish Borders. The price of the double room was just over £51.00 so we were unsure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to have a lovely, clean, big room with huge bay windows overlooking the park opposite. For our evening meal we walked literally 5 minutes up the road to an Italian restaurant called Sale-Pepe (Jesmond area) We ordered the spicy chicken which was ok and filling, the Tiramisus was good! The service was excellent. Overall a cheap hotel stay which allowed us to have a good evening meal on our way to Scotland. Would stay there again on our next visit up north.

"Very pleasant stay!"
Charlotte L, 28 Novembre 2016

We thought the room was lovely, in a good location, about 6 pounds in a taxi to the centre, and very friendly staff! Had no trouble whatsoever and thought the room was very nice. Great value for money in our opinion and we would definitely return again.

"Top quality place to stay"
Noelyne, 16 Novembre 2016

I stay at this hotel when I'm working at Benton Park View. It's about three miles away so easy by taxi or an 8 minute walk to West Jesmond metro station and about 10 mins to Longbenton or back to Central Station. Very friendly staff. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. Good shower. Food is excellent. I love the salmon meal in the evening. Breakfast is excellent with choice of cereals etc and freshly cooked bacon and eggs etc. Just perfect. Thank you!

"Comfortable night"
Gillian A, 06 Novembre 2016

Perfect location for a night out in Jesmond. Pleasantly surprised with quality of room. However locating it was more difficult with misleading signage. Walking distance to bars, food and metro into Newcastle.

"Great stay"
R F, 26 Octobre 2016

Hotel was comfortable, clean and friendly. It was a very nice hotel and in a great location, i would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Newcastle. It is a ten minute walk to city centre and there are lots of bars and restaurants near by.

"A Home from Home for us"
SarniaCherie, 23 Octobre 2016

We were in the city for the 4th time in the last year or so, in order to attend meetings with the transplant team at the Freeman Hospital. This hotel was the best we have stayed in so far. It is homely but efficient, caring but not intrusive, well decorated and spotlessly clean. We plan to stay there the next time we come to the city's hospitals, from 700 miles away! Thanks Best Western for easing our stay and making a tough few days a little lighter.

"Dump"
shaunyboykid, 21 Octobre 2016

I give this place one star but only because it had parking. In fact i didn't actually stay as my company had booked me a double room but upon arrival i was allocated a single. The room was no bigger than a child's bedroom and the decor was dated, floor sticky and i would not have dared look under the sheets, the bar area looks like something out of a cabaret nightclub from the 70's. I refused to stay and left steer clear of this hovel, you may cone away with something

"Break to see Northumberland"
DanumStGeorge, 08 Octobre 2016

We were wanting a place as a base for visiting sights in Northumberland, the New Kent was ideally placed for our days out. The hotel is only a few metres away from the restaurants and bars of Jesmond, but we never heard any noise from the nightlife - always good The room was a little on the small side, but that isn't an issue for us. It was clean and tidy with housekeeping everyday. The bathroom looked relatively new. Receptionists were always very good and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was mostly very good, anything cooked was wonderful but the 'fresh' croissants and banana loaf looked a little stale after the first morning. The only real downside was the noise from the plumbing, early mornings you could hear when most people were washing, showering etc. Overall we would recommend stay here - maybe bring earplugs for the mornings!

"fabulous worth a visit."
daisybella24, 06 Octobre 2016

Lovely hotel, very friendly staff, rooms were lovely had just exactly what you needed. Breakfast was amazing! We went shopping in Newcastle and for a night out, Metro was just about 3 minutes straight in to the centre of Newcastle. Fine location if you don't want complete city centre location. There is a lovely pub just as you get off the Metro and hotel is not even a 5 min walk.

"Short break Break"
yvonneandpaul, 05 Octobre 2016

On the morning of !st Oct 2016 my wife and I decided we would spend the weekend in Newcastle. Trying to find a hotel at such short notice and at a reasonable price, was not easy but, we came across the New Kent whilst searching the net. They only had 2 or 3 rooms left but we made a booking for the night. Being short notice we did not expect much but, what a pleasant surprise. The hotel is situated in a leafy suburb, a short walk to the Metro, with easy access too Newcastle centre. Pleasant friendly staff, clean comfortable room, car parking and a good breakfast. Would certainly stay again if visiting Newcastle

"Not happy with the stay. Disappointed."
redsofanfield, 29 Septembre 2016

I stayed at this hotel whilst on business and expected better. Reception staff were fine , breakfast looked like it had all been deep fried , 1 person serving who struggled with only 4 sets of guests in the evening.. When I mentioned this to the receptionist , he said "oh we have been busy tonight".... What.. 4 sets of guests and over a dozen empty tables.. Really?? The hotel really needs updating, by that I mean the decor, the reception, the stairs are steep too. I stayed at the rear of the hotel and it was so noisy outside , the wind clattered the rear fire escape stairs most of the night and I got little sleep. I just expected so much more from a Best Western. Disappointed .

"One Member of Staff a let down "
suitcase89, 29 Septembre 2016

My recent stay at the Best Western Jesmond was decent enough, room was clean and comfortable which is all you can ask for when paying the price. Meals in the hotel both breakfast and dinners that I had were again were ok and value for the money. The main negative I have about the hotel is the attitude of one of the members of staff who on the night I stayed was working on reception as well as behind the bar taking food and drink orders. I think his name is Chris...may well be wrong. This particular member of staff made everything seem an effort and made a song and dance about the kitchen being busy...this was no issue for me personally with the kitchen being busy and food being delayed but the way it was put across by this particular member of staff it was almost as if he was telling me to go eat somewhere else and that me ordering food was an inconvenience. The way he dealt with another customers complaint was very unprofessional "sorry about that" walked away to carry out one of his duties was as far as his efforts went, maybe he should've concentrated his energy and efforts sorting that customer out rather than making an event of telling me the kitchen was busy. Il be back and stay here again I'd imagine, let's hope the drama queen doesn't take my food order the night the kitchen is busy.

"A 3 star hotel"
jeremy_31011966, 07 Septembre 2016

The hotel on the whole is ok, a warm welcome, the room was a little on the small side for a double room. Some of the fixtures and fittings were a bit poor DIY quality with a look of 80's/90's recycling. The room itself was clean and the bathroom also. The breakfast was very good with an extensive choice of both continental and full English which was perfectly cooked.

"Not bad for short stay"
yorkie521, 04 Septembre 2016

Very clean but very small and basic rooms. Staff friendly I found breakfast very expensive for size as I had room only booking I only had breakfast once in hotel. Ideal for bars on osbourne road very close by and metro

"Good couple of nights away"
moslit, 31 Août 2016

I stayed there due to a business meeting nearby. I read several negative reviews and saw pictures which kind of sent alarm bells before my trip so I was prepared for what could be coming my way. BW Diamond status sadly not recognised at check in.My room was probably recently refurbished because I couldn't fault it at all. Clean, tidy good enough for a couple of nights, good shower pressure, crispy towels and bed sheets. The hotel is situated at a good location. Some unpleasant odour in the communal areas on the staircase noticed, but did not infiltrate the room.Huge contrast in decoration of the communal areas (dated) and rooms (modern). Didn't try the breakfast but tried the bar food and I was happy with it. Selection of beers could be better. Parking is a bit hit and miss; if you are lucky to park at the front, by the entrance, then no probs. If you park at the rear though and you drive a large car, that can be a challenge and being in a residential area with allocated parking spaces you could be wondering aimlessly until you find a suitable spot to park, somewhere. WiFi ok-ish; temperamental. I would stay there again, although the parking issue would make me think twice.

"Friendly, clean hotel"
Jane J, 29 Août 2016

Husband stayed here one night and remarked how friendly and helpful the staff were. He had a comfortable night's sleep with a good breakfast the following morning. He stayed in a single room as that was all that was available and said it was very comfortable.

"Great staff, very tired hotel"
Simon C, 10 Août 2016

Take the staff out of this hotel and put them in a newer establishment and you would have a great mix. I dined in the restaurant and really enjoyed the chicken main course, thanks chef. Overall, this hotel needs modernisation and updating. It is a shame as everywhere was clean and the room would tick all the boxes.

"Good location, comfortable room"
LIndaC548, 04 Août 2016

Stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Situated within easy walking distance of the Metro which gets you into Newcastle centre in around 10/15mins. Also nearby to plenty of bars & restaurants within Jesmond itself. Room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was usual buffet style selection and cooked choices to order. Dining room is large and bright. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. As with many BW hotels it could maybe do with a bit of modernising, but it is clean and well maintained.

"Lovely area"
Helen M, 22 Juillet 2016

The hotel although set on a busy road is very close to lovely parks which is great when you have the dog with you. It is close enough to walk into the city centre, about a 20 minute walk. We would use this hotel again.

"Excellent"
Gerry1970, 22 Juillet 2016

Very good location for visiting at Freeman Hospital where I had a relative in for a transplant, 20 minute walk if you choose to. Quiet end of a very busy road for hotels & bars.Staff were excellent, full marks to them.

"Quiet end of Osbourne Road"
MartinWG, 20 Juillet 2016

Wanted a hotel close to town and the action but in peaceful surrondings. This ticks the boxes. It is beyond the main 'action' on Osbourne Road in Jesmond which is known for its nightlife. Looks over St Georges Parish church (worth a visit), has car parking and the bar is for residents only. It is in easy walking distance to Jesmond and a £3 taxi ride to the main part of the city or waterfront. The rooms are clean and the staff very helpful. We stayed for two nights for our daughters graduation. The breakfast is adequate (have had better and have had worse)

"Friendly hotel"
Vivjoluke, 11 Juillet 2016

I stay here often for work and always have a lovely welcome from the staff. Rooms are well equipped and the family rooms are great with tea and coffee available, hairdryer etc. The rooms have recently been refurbished and look nice. Breakfast is good too as is the food in the restaurant - the Slider Board is my favourite.

"Poor experience"
Joel C, 05 Juillet 2016

Due to being away with work a lot I have the pleasure of staying in a variety of hotels. I arrived at the New Kent Hotel late evening, roughly 9pm, and was told to park my car down the side of the building. After checking in I went up to my room which was relatively basic however what struck me was that there wasn't a thermostat control or any method of altering the room temperature. As a rule I'm generally warm all the time however the room was quite cold and the radiators weren't on so I didn't warm up until I actually got into bed! The bathroom was the nicest part to the hotel that I saw having recently been refurbished and looked modern with a decent (and hot) shower. After showering in the morning I was in need of a hairdryer to which there wasn't one in the room so proceeded to make my way to reception. No one was on the counter so I rang the bell and without asking what I wanted a man popped his head around the corner and said he's gone to the shop and will be back soon. This meant I then stood waiting in reception for someone to arrive which thankfully was only a matter of minutes. The gentlemen who returned with was very helpful and went to a room that was vacant to source me a hairdryer. Once I'd packed up I made my way to the car which was now blocked in by another vehicle (at no point on arrival the night before was I asked the time I'd be leaving or informed that this might happen) so I went back to reception to ask if the car could be moved. The lady I spoke with this time was again helpful and tried to find the owner however was unable to but did find the owner of the car the other side of the building. This then meant I needed to reverse down a tight gap and out through the back. All in all I ended up being 15 minutes late for my meeting with work after all that happened. I've given the overall rating just 1 star as I don't see how my stay could have been much worse. For those thinking of staying at the New Kent Hotel I'd advise against it as there's quite a number of hotels in the area. If anything I'd compare the Best Western to that of B&B's I've previously stayed at in Blackpool in years gone by and that's at a push as I've had a much better experience at those places than this one.

"Good 3 *"
Duane B, 02 Juillet 2016

We used this hotel for a overnight stay so my daughter could look at Newcastle university. In general this hotel is a good standard 3*. It could do with some updating in place's. Room's are small but comfortable, with everything you need. It's close to the city centre (1.6 miles). I had no problems with the parking, but spaces do seem to be limited. The breakfast was good with plenty to choose from. We didn't use the bar or restaurant. Good 3* for the price £45 for a single room with breakfast. I would use this hotel again, if we go back to newcastle.

"Old uncomfortable hotel"
stanleydaalder, 25 Juin 2016

Beautiful day in Newcastle, all hotels in the same street where having terraces open and full with guests, on my request do you have a terrace open at checking in, the answer was afrossen the street in the park you can sit! Bar was closed, no elevator, no help with luggage, with my diner steak wasn't available, cappuccino they didn't have or couldn't make, poor quality of food in almost empty restaurant where in the same street many hotels were very occupied, question why.

"In need of upgrading "
s30rev, 18 Juin 2016

I stayed here for 3 nights when working in newcastle, upon arrival the staff were very friendly. The rooms were clean but in need refurbishment the bathroom was very dated and run down but overall it was clean. The food was ok and there was free parking.

"Terrible! Do not stay here"
jessica_h_fonseca, 16 Juin 2016

Booked for a meeting, meeting location was only round the corner. Therefore I thought this would be ok. However, for the price the rooms are really outdated. I luckily requested a re-furb room but only got a re-furb bathroom which was nice bit turned horrible. Where the toilet meets the floor it leaked the whole bathroom!! Horrible. I caught conjunctivitis and really bad ear infection from here. Food was good and breakfast was nice and brought to the room. Staff in dining were great. The staff on reception need to be woken up and re-trained. Also cleaners were not the nicest. However, I will never stay in a Best Western after this experience.

"Clean, Friendly Hotel, Great for a Night or 2"
Jane M, 13 Juin 2016

Really friendly staff in this nice 3* hotel, the hotel was clean, had all the basics and was ideal for a couple of nights. Comfy beds, nice dinner and breakfast and really offers everything you need. Situated on a main road but certainly not noisy.

"Brilliant weekend"
graemesimpson28, 06 Juin 2016

Brilliant hotel in Jesmond not too far from Newcastle city centre. Rooms were very clean and modern, breakfast 10/10 with cereal, fruit juice, yogurt and a cooked breakfast on offer. Friendly staff that made you feel welcome, especially Susan and Jimi. Lovely restaurant area and bar with reasonable prices. Will definitely be back ????

"Good choice for a couple of nights !"
belleretraite, 03 Juin 2016

Nicely located in a quiet neighborhood , this hotel offers parking space and is a 10 minutes walk to the nearest metro station . The room was clean , spacious , the beds were comfortable but the fan in the bathroom made a weird noise . It could be noisy if guests on the top floor are having a party or if someone in an adjacent room was using the shower . Service is efficient and friendly and the front office staff was very helpful to provide info. on restaurants , transportation and sightseeing . Excellent WIFI reception and good TV selection . Not many restaurants nearby but dining at the bar was really good at competitive pricing . Overall a very good value .

"Excellent Sunday Lunch"

Visited the New Kent Hotel for Sunday lunch, there was 2 adults and 2 kids. We had an offer that gave adults a 3 course lunch for £10.95 each and the kids eat free. The portion sizes were tremendous, the kids got the same as the adults, which doesn't happen very often. I ordered fishcakes to start, they were made of cod and salmon, very good, the rest of the table had potato skins which come with garlic sauce and BBQ sauce, everyone said they were lovely. There was a choice of Pork, chicken, beef, lamb or woof fish for main (also a vegetarian Kiev but we are carnivores) so everyone ordered the lamb. It was served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and gravy, then a bowl of veggies came to accompany it. Nothing was left, it was really nice. For dessert, there was a choice of raspberry rularde, peanut butter millionaires cake, chocolate cake, lemon shortbread cheesecake (which we were going to her but they had sold out), chocolate cheesecake and spotted dick with custard. We got 1 millionaires cake, which had a lovely taste, 1 raspberry rularde which was lovely and light, 1 spotted dick which was nice but too heavy after everything else, and 1 chocolate cheesecake which in my opinion was the best choice. Everyone was that contented, that when we got home everyone had a Sunday dinner snooze. The staff are really attentive and very professional, top marks to everyone. We will be back for more.

"Excellent would deffo reccomend "
Alex D, 23 Mai 2016

The hotel situated within Jesmond, a suburb of Newcastle offers a great range of food and drink. The room I stayed in was clean tidy and modern and overlooked the green by the church. The bathroom was very modern How I rated it: (??s) Food: ?????????? Drink: ?????????? Friendliness of staff: ?????????? Location: ?????????? Room: ?????????? All in all a very pleasant stay.

"A gem in the heart of Jesmond Rd"

The decor may be a little tired but this was a great find for a good nights sleep and value for money. Staff really helpful and friendly. Free parking and easy reach of city centre by Metro. Would recommend.

"Lovely, comfortable and clean"
suzannewales55, 08 Mai 2016

I stayed here for two nights whilst visiting family. The front of house was welcoming. The room was large and comfortable as was the bed. En-suite was roomy and the facility good. Deco in the bedroom and reception rooms was a bit dated but pleasant. I could hear some movement of guests overhead but as the hotel is not a modern purpose built building then this can be expected. The location was quiet but only a short walk away from Jesmond's busy Main Street with plenty of bars and restaurants. There was a good choice of continental and traditional for breakfast. The room rate was reasonably priced. Overall a pleasant stay. I will use this hotel again for my convenience.

"Comfortable and clean"
Deborah H, 25 Avril 2016

Nice hotel smallish room but clean. Only to sleep in so weren't bothered. I must say beautiful breakfast best I've had in a hotel in a long while. Good for a night out and close to all amenities. Also breakfast available till 10 on a wk/end and check out is 11 so no rushing around which we prefer. Would recommend overall.

"Good, Clean & Friendly"
LoopyLynsey19, 24 Avril 2016

Great service, staff very helpful, well appointed, good location and nice n clean, highly recommended and will be back again. The rooms are all well decorated, and breakfast is good and well priced. Easy to get into the city centre and lots of bars nearby.

"Worst Western!"
Statuescher, 06 Avril 2016

Arrived about 9pm and there are only 3 parking spaces with 1 disabled bay which were all taken. The adjacent streets are residents only so had to park across the street near the church and walk back with my luggage. I was given room 22 on the top floor. Staff quite friendly but did not offer to help with luggage and no lift. Quite a cramped room and I could hear the TV in the room below also the floor creaked terribly. I swapped to room 3 and again the floor creaked badly but at least the bathroom is refurbished in that room. Due to creaky floors and design of the building you can hear other guests walking around in the room above and neighbours noises. Overall the hotel feels tired with dated decor and the lack of sound proofing and poor parking is a big minus for me. I definitely would not recommend or stay there again.

"Business trip to Newcastle"
yorkie521, 28 Mars 2016

Basic Hotel but clean. Room very small and walls thin so noise can be heard from other rooms. Not one of my top hotels but not bottom either. Staff all very friendly. My room was booked through the firm and did not include breakfast. I paid for breakfast on my first day but when discovering the price decided it was not worth it so bought some oats from a local supermarket and had those in my room instead. I spilled a small amount of coffee on my quilt cover second night in and it was not changed until 2 days afterwards but the rest of the room was cleaned very well to a good standard

"Quiet location just out from city centre"
Michael B, 18 Mars 2016

Have stayed one night here for the past 3-4 years. Reasonable rooms, good breakfast, Limited choice of evening meals but quality of food is good. Hotel has limited off road parking at rear of hotel. A reasonable price to pay for this kind of hotel just aaover a mile or so from the city centre.

"New Kent Hotel"
537valw, 09 Mars 2016

First rom offered was not as good as I had hoped as I was there to attend the Freeman Hospital for a heart procedure and felt being squeezed up against a wall was not acceptable, we were moved at myrequest to a more spacious room

"Nice staff great location near Metro"
Martin G, 18 Février 2016

My room was a small one a double single (bed is bigger than a single but room small). It was fine for my single occupancy and gives you more room than a single room. The room was nice and quiet and had tea and coffee making. I arrived Sunday to be told that the restaurant was closed that evening as the hotel was not busy I understand this but it might have been nice to have been contacted before I arrived, this is my only very small criticism. Breakfast is very good so save time to relax and enjoy. I look forward to staying again soon. All the staff are very friendly and keen to help.

"Elderly couple, travelling by train, visiting Freeman hospital"
carol r, 12 Février 2016

we were visiting our son in the freeman hospital. This hotel is about a mile away and the walk is comparitively easy if you are an average walker. The last section after the bridge, is fairly steep so could be a problem for some. There is a shorter walk through the park which looked nice but we didn't try it. The hill could still be an issue though. A quiet area when we were there. Shops a short level walk behind the hotel. The breakfasts were excellent. A wide choice with properly cooked fried eggs. A rarity. No brown lace and no uncooked white, even on the top. And the yolk still runny. Perfect. Rooms quite small but comfortable. Only problem really was if you travel by train, as we did, and don't know the area, then the bus service from the hotel doesn't go near the station. The metro, which does, is a 5 minute walk away we were told. Also no buses to the hospital. The staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly at all times. Would recommend unreservedy.

"Excellent as always"
Neil J, 11 Février 2016

A friendly hotel in a nice suburb of Newcastle with proximity to the city centre. Good local amenities. I am a regular customer and my only concern on this visit was a lack of heating on Friday afternoon and again early Saturday evening. I had to ask for a portable heater. Otherwise excellent as always.

"3 Day Away With Work"
fl0werbabe, 05 Février 2016

Stayed at the New Kent Best Western in February 2016. Staff were very friendly and helpful,I cannot fault the staff! My room was clean, warm and relatively well decorated but I think it's due redecoration. The bathroom was brand new and very well fitted! My only qualm would be that the bed was very small and wobbled whenever I moved, my colleague was in the room next to me and could hear the bed wobbling and banging about. Breakfast was average.

"Friendly but parking very difficult"
Jonathan B, 16 Janvier 2016

I spent two night here and ended up with parking fines. The rooms were ok - I chose to take a walk and find something else for evening meals. The breakfast was good though. I had a single room which was unusual but worked for my needs.

"Has improved since I first stayed here"
John B, 04 Janvier 2016

There is not as much "on site" parking as there are rooms. Since it was just a few days before Christmas this did not seem to be a problem. The main restaurant was shut in the evening but the bar area was doing a decent menu so no problem there. The bar room had lots of room and a good sized bath. As I only have a shower at home a soak in the tub was a welcome change. Checkout was easy and relaxed and the breakfast really appreciated. A PROPER cooked breakfast was fantastic, instead of bacon and egg "something" in warming pots that is so common in many hotels now. Please keep this up.

"Excellent Find"
Peter W, 07 Décembre 2015

Really friendly staff, great location to city, I had a room that had been recently been refitted the other members has older style rooms which were very clean but a little dated. Breakfast was nice and fresh Overall excellent stay and would happily return

"Excellent value hotel"
Neil J, 23 Novembre 2015

This is an excellent value hotel in a quiet but convenient location providing all I require at a reasonable price. My room was warm until I went to bed on what were cold nights. Just one warning - it can be uncharacteristically extremely noisy if there is a party in the restaurant. It is to be avoided if you plan on staying in during the evening on a party night. Check before booking. Otherwise it comes highly recommended by me.

"Christmas Shopping with no Bling"
Grahame B, 16 Novembre 2015

Booked this hotel for the purpose of a night out in Newcastle after Christmas shopping all day. On arrival on a very wet day nothing sparked from the outside, along with a parking cone beside the drain pipes. Entering reception we were greeted with a friendly smile and checked in promptly. Two floors up and we found a rather small but pleasant room - apart from the temperature. It had been a cold day, but this room was freezing. A quick complaint at reception and all was sorted. Later that evening we arrived back at the hotel looking for a quick bite to eat. While we knew the restaurant was closed nothing prepared us for the bar being shut, and no night service from the porter. In the end we had to walk to a takeaway in the pouring rain for pizza and juice. Even though the pizza shop was not too far, and was the best ever I wouldn't recommend walking down the lane in the rain anytime

"Tired Rooms, Great Staff."
th1194, 29 Octobre 2015

Stayed several nights in different rooms but rooms very tired and not very welcoming. However the food was good and the staff excellent. Hotel desperately in need of an update. No evening meal available on a Sunday!

"Quiet hotel in Jesmond"
Guy D, 04 Octobre 2015

I have stayed at New Kent Hotel twice now and found it welcoming, comfortable and convenient for Jesmond, the universities and the city centre, which are ten minutes to the Metro and then two or three stops away.

"Great Value-For-Money"
TrevorHall, 01 Octobre 2015

I think it's always wise to review a hotel with a firm eye on how much one paid for the room. Normally, I'd stay in better hotels than this, but I'd pay a lot more, that's for sure. The reception was welcoming and the gentleman manning the front desk was polite and helpful. We stayed in Room 1 which we found to be spacious and clean. The building is of course, a converted large house and so the creaking of the floorboards and the thin walls between rooms is, in a way, standard. Tea and coffee making facilities were all fine, good quality biscuits on the side, and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. As the Premier Inn in Holystone is now charging £80+ per night, this hotel is great value-for-money. One small addition: We booked in advance for two further stays, and paid in advance. Our confirmation stated that we can cancel with up to 24 hours notice. The Freeman Hospital changed our dates we had to cancel. When we called the hotel, we were informed that a refund was not possible. After a bit of a frustrating conversation, we were informed that a refund was possible, which is good because that's exactly what the terms and conditions state.

"Delightful stay"
Margaret043, 29 Septembre 2015

Stayed here for a Saturday and Sunday night with a friend and my two daughters. My room (17) was large, clean, comfortable and quiet and the bathroom was very stylish. We found all the staff to be really helpful and there were no problems with the (free) parking. Our package didn't include breakfast but we found a lovely café (Delicious Decadence) run by a young woman one stop north on the metro line which we would recommend.

"Very good Hotel"
Brenda S, 28 Septembre 2015

My husband and I stayed at the New Kent Hotel on the 26th/27th September and were pleasantly surprised at the accommodation. We were in room 14 at the rear of the property and while we didn't have a view the room was quiet, it held a double and a single bed which were very comfortable. The room was well decorated and very clean. The bathroom had a bath with shower over and was a good size. The only thing is that the hotel is a maze of corridors and steps, so maybe not so good for someone who isn't very mobile. Breakfast was good and the staff very helpful. Its far enough away from the nightlife on Osbourne Road so as not to be too noisy.

"Not great, not bad"
DRB380, 18 Septembre 2015

Sunday night here after the Great North Run. The room was clean and of a decent size and the bed comfortable. It was side on to the wall which always makes getting out awkward but the area was lively (in a good way) and the hotel was well accessible. For the pretty modest room only price we paid it was very hard to argue. We would certainly go back.
