The staffs here are helpful and nice. Ryan, the front desk staff helped us to change to connected room so that we can take care of young kids and elderly at the same time. The breakfast was good and they offer various kinds of cornflakes for my young kids. I appreciated a lot with the heat in the bathroom so that we take bath comfortably.

"A very good deal"

This is not a fancy place, but it is clean and secure. A room on the fifth floor (which is really the fourth, as the number 4 is unlucky in some Asian cultures) facing Grand Street can be a little noisy at night, especially if its garbage pickup night. The front desk staff is friendly and accommodating. There is not a lot of front of the house activity. You take the elevator to the second floor to check in. Then you need a key to get to the floors with the rooms. It is located in Chinatown (which is definitely expanding) and just a couple blocks from Mulberry Street, the heart of Little Italy. Subways to Midtown or wherever else you want to get are convenient. There is a breakfast buffet which is acceptable if not particularly tasty. There is no restaurant or bar in the hotel, but you are close to literally dozens of options. If you are a troglodyte like me and want a newspaper in the morning, the closest place I found was five blocks away, at Mulberry and Kenmare. No news stand at the subway station. My only gripe about the hotel is that my room was not cleaned on the second night of my stay. I'm going to venture that this was because they are understaffed, since I lave a tip for the room cleaner. There is a small but functional desk. I find this place very convenient for the federal courts and agencies at Foley Square. Its a bit of a walk, but its worth it to avoid having to take transit in the morning when you have a deadline to appear. Internet was a bit spotty. But its free.

"Great hotel, just ok area."

4
18/08/2018

Friendly and helpful staff. Very clean and comfortable. Good breakfast with nice outdoor eating area. Little Italy and lots of restaurants close by. Several subway stations close by. My only reason for not giving it 5/5 is not for the hotel itself but because I didn't love the area around the hotel. While little Italy with all of its restaurants a couple of blocks over stays lively a little later, the rest of the area is mostly shops/food stands and as they close around 9 it felt deserted at night. As it was just me and my son I didn't feel as comfortable walking back from the subway later at night as I have staying in other locations. Also not the cleanest area. Overall, the hotel was great and while the location wouldn't be top on my list I also wouldn't not stay again because of it.

"Best Western Bowery is the best Hotel in Chinatown"

15/08/2018

All BW Staff, front desk (Lisa) and manager(lyn) are very professionnal and take good care of my group (50 people). Very convenient because this hotel is in Chinatown NY, around cheap chinese restaurant and food market. Our group are very happy to stay in this hotel with comfortable bed and various delicious breakfast. I will stay defintely in this hotel for my next trip with another group. no regret.

"Good location, clean, good breakfast, friendly staff"

12/08/2018

The location is close to subways and many restaurants. The rooms are well laid out and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast provides a good selection including fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, yoghurt etc. I have only positive things to say about this hotel and we would definitely stay here again.

"Good choice "

Well we choose this hotel because of price combined with location and not bad reviews as we booked late but to our surprise the hotel ain't average hotel to me it's ideal place to stay as I will stay there if I visit New York again regardless the other top brands 5 min to the metro and walking distance to Brooklyn bridge and early trade centre, the area its self is very lively street, the room and bathroom clean and modern the staff are brilliant always smiling and greeting you with very helpful reception guys , lovely breakfast with lots of choice and I have to mention the name of (Vicky) from the breakfast team greeting even checking on tables and asking we are ok and if we need anything So tam up ????

"Average location "

4
21/07/2018

The hotel is very close to metro stations but the surrounding areas are not very posh. Nothing to do around this area. I assume that is why the rates were reasonable. Rooms were average. Hotel staff was nice and helpful. Buffet breakfast was good. An average hotel in an average location. Hotel manager allowed us to leave our luggage in the cloak room for one night as we were checking in again when we came back from our niagra falls tour.

"Very good value for money"

14/07/2018

Situated in Chinatown and close to a selection of decent Italian restaurants, the hotel offers good value. The staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfasts offer a reasonable and varied selection. The king size bedroom was well maintained and gave plenty space for three of us. The hotel is close to an underground railway station, connecting to key parts of the Manhattan tourist trail. It is within walking distance of the Manhattan Bridge and it is possible to walk over to Brooklyn. If you want somewhere in New York that does not charge extravagant prices this is worthwhile.

"Good value for money in Chinatown"

06/07/2018

We booked on hotels.com so had the room for a good price. We stayed for 4 nights and wanted a cheap, nice hotel that was a good base for sight seeing, which the hotel lived up to. The hotel is located in Chinatown with lots of restaurants around however I wouldn't rate any in Chinatown. Little Italy is a few minutes walk away and I would recommend eating out here with plenty of Italians to choose from. The hotel is small, check in was easy, they stored our luggage on check out and the staff were very friendly. There is free breakfast which was great, there were a selection of cooked breakfast items, cereal, fruit, pancakes, waffles and some pastries. There is also juice, water and tea/coffee and seating inside and out. There is a water dispenser in the lobby which is ideal for filling up bottles of water. The hotel room wasn't the biggest, but we were only staying here for a few nights before moving on so it suited us fine. There is also free Wi-Fi for guests. From the hotel we walked to Bryant Park, One World Trade Centre, 9/11 Museum, Wall St, Battery Park and walked to Brooklyn across the Brookyn Bridge. Great location for those who like walking, however can get tiring and the subway is not that far. All in all, an excellent no frills hotel in a great location for sight seeing.

"Nice Hotel- In ChinaTown"

14/06/2018

This is a nice Best Western. We arrived early and our room wasn't ready so they checked our bags. We returned later in the evening and the check in was quick and easy. The staff was very friendly. Our room was a double queen. Decent size room. The cooling system needs a little work, the control is in the bathroom and hard to figure out. The vent is tucked away in the corner, and you can't really feel the air by the beds. It felt stuffy all week. The beds were comfortable, they could use bigger pillows. The free breakfast in the morning was good. They had a wide selection of things to choose from. Try to get down there before 9am, it is very busy. They have outdoor seating which was nice. This hotel is located in Chinatown but only 3 blocks from Little Italy, which was nice. They have good restaurants and some cool little bars.

"Interesting location, decent rates, and good breakfast"

11/06/2018

Nice little hotel located between Chinatown and Little Italy. Good thing about being in this area is that you are among the locals, and doesnt live in the middle of a tourist trap. The hotel rooms are good, with expected facilities. The hotel does not feature a restaurant or bar/pub, but they are serving a decent breakfast. You can also enjoy your breakfast outside in the backyard which is really good on a hot summer day. Walking distance to some of New Yorks best Chinese and Italian restaurants is also great. The staff was also very helpful both with helping us do our different bookings (transport to/from airport, tourist attractions, etc.). I definitely recommend this hotel for families, and there is a good chance I will book this again for my next trip to NY.

"Would not recommend"

Small rooms, smelled very bad. Disappointed . Good breakfast buffet. Founded some clothes in the closet. Even the pillows and bedding smells like weed. Would never come back there and would not recommend it

"Great Hotel In a quaint location"

30/05/2018

Room was a good size for NYC. Rooms were clean, continental breakfast was the best I have seen in many hotels and the staff goes out of their way to accommodate you. We had a day of rain and they found us an umbrella to use. It's located close to two different subways and is convenient for getting around pretty much everywhere in Manhattan. We felt very safe walking around the Neighborhood and the Chinese culture is very authentic and so Interesting. They also have a patio area to sit outside and eat breakfast or just to relax during the day or evening.

"Trip to Manhattan"

5
30/05/2018

This was a ladies trip for me, my sister, sister-in-law and niece. We reserved at this hotel as the price was the most economical we could find with 2 queen beds. The room was small but definitely served the purpose for the time we were in the room. The continental breakfast was perfect, not having to search for a breakfast spot made the start of the day easy. Coffee was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was easy access to subway, hop on hop off bus stop and lots of restaurant choices near by. We didn't have a chance to eat in China Town but would recommend La Mela Ristorante in Little Italy 5 minutes away from the hotel.

"Made to sleep on sofa"

1
29/05/2018

I arrived to book in after a 30 hour journey. Was advised that the room was not available and no other rooms were free in NYC. Was told that they did not have any contact details for me so were unable to contact. Have been advised by Hotels.com that this was a lie. Was advised a room would be available at 6 in the morning but we would have to sleep on the sofa. Halfway through the night another guest was booked into an alternative hotel after we were advised there were no other rooms anywhere. The room never became free and we were only booked into a room at 11.30, Dante the duty manager accepted that they were in the wrong and would reimburse us for part of out stay. He also broke our suitcase when taking it out of storage. We explained that we had tickets to see Chicago at 2 that afternoon, but we had to miss this due to the exhaustion of being awake all night. The hotel refuses to accept any responsibility and are not willing to refund the tickets. I have been emailing the general manager - Lyn Officer - who is claiming that I should not expect the tickets to be refunded (these cost $300), even thought it was their fault. Lyn also fails to respond to e-mails. I am very disappointed as this ruined my whole holiday but Best Western refuse to admit any fault.

Lyn O, General Manager at Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Mr. Sanwell, We cannot apologize enough for your dissatisfaction with our service. We have been in communication with you since I received notification from Best Western and we did accept responsibility for the first night by compensating an additional night from your stay. Unfortunately, we were not informed about your plans to see Chicago which as I explained - knowing would have immediately prompted our front desk team or Dante or myself to reach out to the theater on your behalf to see what could be done being that you had another two nights in NYC. Dante will be emailing you directly as he personally spoke with you about the suitcase and throughout your stay.He also informed you that we would be refunding the two nights prior to your departure and you departed on what we believed were amicable terms. Mr. Sanwell, I assure you, we take the upmost pride in making sure all our guests are happy as without our guests we would not be in business and we also take pride in learning from each and every experience both the good and the not so good. Thank you for your time and we will be in touch.

"A decent price"

4
19/05/2018

I stay here if I have business in the federal building at or near Foley Square and I don't want to pay Wall Street rates. Its less than a mile walk, and you don't have to cope with rush hour transportation. My room had a decent work desk, the climate controls work well, and the bed is comfortable. The room is clean enough. The only specific defect was slow drainage in the sink. Nothing upscale, but definitely livable. The buffet is likewise nothing special but helps for getting going int he morning.

Great hotel if you want to be in downtown. Kinda dead area. The hotel rocks. The area shuts down at like 6 or 7pm. Its hard to just find food or a place to buy a soda. So there's that. Great hotel though. Staff were also super. Ser Jaimie rocked.

"Chinatown/Little Italy"

4
02/05/2018

Good location to site see from. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast filing and saves you from going out. Our room was recently been remodeled and clean as is the rest of the building. Beware of the WiFi that stops functioning,,, ALOT. Our room on Bowery St. side was very noisy from the street traffic. When BW remodeled the room, they put double pained windows in, with storm windows, Plus there is a 3 or 4 inch air gap in between the windows to help deaden the noise even more. BW really did address this problem but I still had to buy ear plugs, which did the trick. By the way, watching the street action was fun.

This hotel is a hidden gem in the maze of New York City. The room was clean and provided everything we needed. Breakfast was good and the staff working it were extremely friendly. In fact, every staff member we encountered made us feel completely welcome at the facility.

Great hotel in China Town near little Italy. This is a good hotel, with a good location near the Subway. Nice and clean room. The breakfast is very good and the hotel staff very helpfull and kind. We had a great stay in April 2018.

"5 Stars !"

I've never had a better hotel experience, honestly! Great room, comfortable bed, everything was clean, free breakfast every day, price was comparable to others in the area, perfect location for me... I actually slept 10 hours and woke up refreshed! I will book this hotel again for sure!

"Poor Practices"

1
20/04/2018

My husband and I were traveling to NYC for my birthday. Our flight got cancelled and we were unable to make it to the hotel. Donte, I believe the manager, spoke to my husband about the situation. He was very rude and refused to listen or care about our situation. We were charged $230 for a room that we were completely unable to stay in. Please be aware that this hotel will not be flexible. I travel often and have (unfortunately) had this problem many times. I have never had a hotel be this awful during an already stressful situation. Every other hotel has been more than accommodating. I recommend staying elsewhere.

Lyn O, Manager at Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Ms Kinsey, On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations. I wish you were able to stay here to enjoy our hotel and the city. However, due to your circumstances that wasn't possible. We understand that your flight got cancelled but it seems that you were not going to be able to make any part of your trip. Unfortunately, the policy with the advance purchase (where you are able to get a lower rate) is non-refundable. I was in the same room when Dante spoke to you and he was not rude, he was advising you of our policy. Your husband actually cursed at him and hung up the phone which was not necessary because that is not how we conduct business at our property. I'm sorry that we were not able to accommodate your request yesterday. I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience. If I can provide any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me directly at 212.925.1177. Sincerely, Ramona Maharaj Rooms Division Manager Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel

We spent a Week in a nice large room in this hotel We met a professional staff like James and Dante at the front desk and Michelle as housekeeper. The location is a few minutes to Greenwich and Soho our favorites areas in NYC. They offer a good breakfast included in the daily rate.

"Great hotel.... Great value"

08/04/2018

This hotel is wonderful value. If you can master the subway it's a great place to stay to visit all NYC attractions. The staff in reception could not have been more friendly and helpful to us. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a little crowded but lots of food and choice for the price we paid. Chinatown and Little Italy are good places to experience. Thanks again to the staff.

"Perfect loacation to explore NYC"

Very friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, very good breakfast, high value for money. Only 50m to Metro B and D - others nearby. Interesting surrounding: Brooklyn Bridge, Chinatown, Little Italy, Downtown, Soho, East Village and Greenwich Village within walking distance. Favourable ocassion to buy fresh fruits in Chinatown.

Clean. Great location. Friendly & Professional staff. Breakfast was quite good. The only issue was on Monday morning there were way more people than had been there on the weekend. They did no have not enough staff for breakfast & kept running out of everything.

"Friendly staff..."

2
28/03/2018

The staff at this hotel deserve 5 out of 5, they are incredibly friendly and accommodating. However the standard of the ‘standard' rooms and breakfast brings it down. The standard rooms are very dark and even though recently refurbished quite dated in the decor. The staff kindly upgraded us to a suite which was very large, had a separate dining area and much more light flooded in. The rooms were clean and housing keeping did a good job. The fitness centre contained one treadmill and one cross trainer, not quite what you'd expect but the view over the city was good. Breakfast I have to say was very disappointing. First of all the complete lack of sustainability and awareness for the environment . Paper plates, plastic cutlery and no recycling bins. This chain should be a shamed of it's self, the amount of people that pass through this hotel that use the breakfast would create a huge amount of unrecycled waste. The food itself is ok, you can make your own waffles and pancakes. It's is very busy however and there is very little space to eat.

"Great Stay"

"Chinatown Madness"

4
22/03/2018

Stayed here for 6 nights in March. Hotel was on point, great location in chinatown if the madness of chinatown is your thing and you don't mind walking or getting the trains a lot. Service was good nothing to moan about there nothing was ever to much. Breakfast was good the fact you had to make your own waffles and pancakes what could possibly go wrong ??. Room was cleaned everyday and was very spacious expecially if you have stayed in a hotel in New York before you will be surprised at how much room you actually have. All round top hotel and very affordable and definitely worth the money.

"Great location"

The hotel is right on the cusp of Chinatown and little Italy and within walking distance of a bunch of other great downtown neighborhoods. The rooms are modern and clean, the staff is helpful and polite, and it's a pretty great value. Highly recommend.

"Found my NYC spot!"

10/03/2018

Located right in the middle of Chinatown and Little Italy, this place is AMAZING! Affordable, better when using my points, and luxurious for us normal travelers. Huge room, full bathroom, incredible shower, huge comfortable bed, and lots of places to sit. And finally, a hotel that doesn't have rugs! Super clean. I am a Diamond Select member and stay in hotels four nights a week since 2008, this place is incredible. This is my new NYC regular spot.

"Perfect in everyway"

09/03/2018

Just back after fours night with 3 friends, and cannot fault it. Stayed in rooms with double queen beds, clean with a decent bathroom. Location is great, in Chinatown, and a minute from the subway. Breakfast included, with a great selection, and a great start to the day. As always the staff of the hotel are paramount to a good experience, and the staff here are great, polite & helpful and a credit to the hotel. The Hanbee hotel will be my go to hotel anytime I am in New York.

"Chinese New Year "

22/02/2018

Underestimated this hotel. Now it is my go to every Chinese New Year. Stayed at Hotel Mulberry last year which is a fine hotel but they wanted way too much per night this year around. My daughter wanted to stay in Times Square (the lights) and we did a couple of years ago but I really wanted to “go deep” and explore Chinatown & Little Italy. I was looking at the available hotels in Chinatown and things were not looking good. In fact to be honest the image of the exterior of this hotel frightened me. So I was settling on Times Square and then I thought I'd look into this hotel a little bit more. I found a decent price and thought ..”we'll just be outside all of the time anyway” We jumped off the subway (very close/convenient) from JFK and found that you must enter 2nd floor. We go up and we were both very pleased. It's very nice inside. Don't let the exterior fool you. Every person we interacted with was beyond helpful. There was a lady helping with the morning breakfast (short hair/Chinese) she was super sweet. Every day she would greet us and ask about our day - she made the experience exceptional. We were allowed to check in early which was a blessing because we had to readjust our outfits. It's cold in NYC. We loved our room. Everything was clean everyday and the cleaning staff worked around our California (get up late) schedule. We always came back to a clean room. The hotel is Perfectly located near several subways, restaurants and parks= perfect! And a short walk away from Katz & Dominique Ansel = perfect! This is my new spot. I feel bad I underestimated it.

"It was ok..."

21/02/2018

Stayed for 6 nights in February 18. Hotel is in a good location in between Chinatown and Little Italy. We paid extra for a larger room with bath but noticed on arrival that this hadn't been granted. We spoke to reception about this and were told that the larger rooms do not all have bathtubs but this wasn't stated on booking.com. The room had a rather annoying hot air heating system which suddenly went off at funny times throughout the night. We stayed on the 5th floor which was less noisy than the lower floors. Breakfast is included at the hotel and there is a very good selection. Overall, we would probably stay again although its our first stay in NYC so we have nothing to compare the hotel too. Our room was small but we have heard NYC hotel rooms are small overall. Brits...remember the tax that is added to the bill at the end of your stay!! It does add a large extra amount on to the cost.

"Fantastic Hotel in Great Location"

12/02/2018

Stayed here for two nights and could not have been happier with the value. The location is fantastic - right between Chinatown and Little Italy, so there are a ton of places to grab food. Also very close walking distance to SoHo and the East Village. We didn't really take the train much, we mostly walked and the hotel was easy to get to. The hotel itself is pretty great. It's very clean and modern. The room temperature was easy to maintain, and the bathroom was large and functional. The bed was comfy, and we had plenty of blankets to keep warm, as it was rather chilly out during our stay. The staff was awesome, as well. They were nice enough to let us keep our bags there after checkout since we had several hours before our flight was to leave - and they had no issues with us doing that. It was probably the biggest convenience of the trip. They also had free breakfast, but we slept through that both days. The lobby is on the second floor of the building. There is no parking that I could see, but we didn't have a vehicle anyway.

"Great value stay!"

17/01/2018

We spent a week over Christmas at the Best Western and we absolutely loved it! We were greeted by Stanley who was welcoming and gave me a birthday gift which was a lovely touch. The hotel is in the middle of China Town and a 2-minute walk from the closest tube station / Little Italy. Very good location and we never had any trouble getting around. The rooms were basic but clean and the bathroom was lovely, especially with the underfloor heating. Large bed with a big wardrobe, safe and TV. The breakfast was really good, lots of choices and served until 10am. So much to choose from - Greek yoghurt, make your own waffles, toast, eggs, cereal, sausages, potatoes, bagels, cheese, etc and served until 10am. Definitely recommend - such a lovely stay with great service.

"Good"

11/01/2018

The location was good - located in China town and walking distance to Little Italy. Hotel staff overall were good and approachable. Breakfast offered a good range of items and breakfast staff were particularly helpful. Rooms were clean and modern. The bed was extremely uncomfortable that i did not want to get up. Unfortunately, our room had an outdoor fan that kept spinning and stopping throughout the night. We had bought ear plugs to help cancel out the noise. I did inform staff but unfortunately, there wasn't anything that they could do about the fan. Thought the price was expensive simply because we booked through best western. It was cheaper to book through booking.com. Our room at the time was 119 dollars but on booking.com the same room was 79 dollars. It is worth looking at different sites before booking for the same hotel. Overall experience, it was good.

"Nice size rooms and comfortable beds and location"

4
08/01/2018

Location is great - you can't get more central than this. If you are a tourist looking for a fifth avenue address, this is not for you. But the central area, many shops, close to little Italy, right into Chinatown and you can eat on $15 for the entire day is heaven! Hotel itself is good. Staff seems a little low energy though and non-chalant, especially for a diamond elite member, I expected more. Rooms are good size for NY, comfortable bed, TV too small and bathroom is big enough. Clean with nice towels.

"Jamie on the front desk is amazing!!!"

5
07/01/2018

Stayed here for a week over Christmas, and had a great time. Hotel is located in China Town close to Little Italy, so many food options, and close to subway. Breakfast doesn't have many options, but you can make your own waffles, pancakes, yogurt with dressings, cereals, and there are hot eggs, bacon and potatoes, with a variety of breads. Bathrooms have heated flooring which was amazing! On a very cold day! Rooms are small, but very clean, the only downside is the rooms don't get dark because there is a window from bedroom into bathroom. Very solid hotel, like I said Jamie is amazing, will help you out with anything, and is very knowledgeable of the area.

"Gem in New York city!"

5
06/01/2018

Highly recommend this hotel in New York! Located in China town, and steps from Little Italy, so a little ways away from the main stuff... but great price, Safe area to walk, Clean, Awesome free breakfast, Comfortable beds, Very close to subway system( highly recommend using this !! ), big bus, and restaurants.

"Friendly Staff, Clean Room"

03/01/2018

My girlfriend (turned fiancé) stayed for three nights between Christmas and New Years. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful from the front desk to the cleaning crew. We enjoyed our stay and it was a great value as well.

"Largest NY hotel room I have ever stayed in"

4
30/12/2017

My wife and I stayed two nights at the BW Bowery Hanbee. The first night, we were upgraded to a King Suite. Though not a true "suite" (there was no dividing wall between the bedroom and living areas), the room was well-appointed with a king-size bed, a sofa and table with chairs and a kitchenette. Most remarkable, was the size, which was enormous, especially by Manhattan standards for a mid-priced hotel. Everything was in very good condition and the room looked newly renovated. The second night, we were in a regular King room, which was also of good-size and up-to-date. The front desk staff were welcoming and helpful. The hotel was sold out and, as others have noted, the dining area becomes crowded when the complimentary breakfast is served, and it can be difficult to find a seat at a table. The neighborhood is an interesting one. It is in Chinatown and the streets are lined with open air food markets, restaurants and small ethnic businesses. There can be some street noise, but the windows are well-glazed and, at least on a higher floor, it was not intrusive. What is left of Little Italy is a couple of blocks away, for those looking for pastries and other delicacies. There is a subway stop within a block, making transport convenient. The excellent Tenement Museum is within walking distance.

"Not bad"

3
26/12/2017

Not a bad hotel. The room was ok quality. had tv with quite a few channels.the bathroom was pretty good, clean with a very good shower ( could of done with an extractor fan ).Breakfast was very good, very good hot and cold selection. the staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The location was fine, about 10-15 minutes by the metro uptown and about 10 to lower Manhattan.there is a metro station only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel is on the border of China town and Little Italy which is very lively in the evenings, felt totally safe walking around at night.

"BEST VALUE we have had in NYC!"

5
25/12/2017

We stayed at the BW Bowery Hanbee in for five nights. We took advantage of a BW promotion to stay for 10,000 points a night. We were beyond impressed with the quality of the stay. The service was excellent! Vikki in the kitchen was very kind to our child and us. The front desk staff Sean and Jaime were excellent in helping to upgrade us to a larger room. The housekeeping staff accommodated our child's nap schedule. Breakfast was quite good, as well. The location is hard to beat! We were blocks away from multiple metro stops. We enjoyed walking to restaurants like locals and being in a neighborhood rather than a tourist district. We plan to return! Watch out Marriott: this hotel is a real challenger to your level of service!

"Good standard hotel"

4
22/12/2017

We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. Staff were really friendly and helpful, particularly Jaime and Ryan on reception. The room lacked enough storage space for four adults staying a week, but was spacious enough and modern, with a nice bathroom and an excellent shower. Breakfast was plentiful with good choices of hot and cold options - the pancakes and waffles were popular, and it was nice to see fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries) available as an accompaniment. The area around the hotel is Chinatown (though we couldn't find an appealing restaurant nearby) and Little Italy with plenty of choice of Italian restaurants. It wasn't really much cheaper than eating out in the Times Square area though. Overall, a really good standard hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

"Break"

20/12/2017

My stay was very enjoyable with a lovely bunch of staff that was very helpful. Rooms very clean. Lovely breakfast choice. Location very good. Across the road to the tube. Staff always happy to help with any worries that you may have.

"The wonderful staff at the best Western Bowery hotel"

4
17/12/2017

The front desk staff went out of their way to help us with anything we needed they were very prompt and efficient the rooms were a little stuffy and in need of some update and the mattress needs updating however I have stayed at this hotel before and I liked it so well that I came back three years later I would recommend it to anyone

"Good deal"

4
16/12/2017

This hotel is not super luxurious but nice and bigger than most hotel rooms in NYC. It was a great bargain, included breakfast and they upgraded our room when I asked. The area is china town which is safe enough but not that nice. Don't be surprised when you enter the hotel and don't see a front desk. It's on the second floor. They also held our luggage after we checked out and had a few hours to kill before our flight. The staff was great. I will stay here again on my next trip to NYC.

"Beautiful Hotel and Amazing Staff"

5
16/12/2017

When coming to new york we didn't plan to stay here as we checked in somewhere else and it was dreadful. We walked down the road and found this hotel on the corner and popped up to the reception to see if they could help. Stanley behind the reception was wonderful he got us a great deal and had us check in straight away and it was 9pm so he was fantastic. Staff are friendly and couldn't do enough to help you, breakfast in the morning in beautiful with so so much selection. And most importantly the rooms are clean, spacious and cosy - couldn't ask for anything better. Recommend anyone to stay here. Great location too - get to experience Little italy and china town too!

"Good stay "

3
12/12/2017

A nice hotel, a little dated in decor, with a good shower. Our room was a good size. The breakfast was nice and the waffle and pancake maker were nice additions however there are paper plates and plastic knives and forks (no expense spared!). Go to breakfast early or you'll struggle to get a table between 8.30-9.30am. Reception staff were friendly enough although not overly welcoming on arrival- we felt rushed through the check in process. I really enjoyed the location in China Town and it being a stones throw away from Little Italy- really cool and different to central Manhattan. Good value for money however I think the photos make the hotel look more modern than what it is.

"Hotel fine ... poor location "

3
10/12/2017

We stayed here for 5 days and have to say that the hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was ok for what it was. The beds are comfortable, shower is good and room has aircon & the check in/out was easy with the hotel holding our bags and arranging a car for the airport. It cost $52.80 flat rate in a NYC yellow cab from the airport ($65 incl tip) but you can't request yellow cabs so we had a private hire on return which was $74 for an SUV. The journeys took 50mins arriving and almost 1.5h going back (we arrived at lunchtime on a Monday and left at 4pm on a Friday). It is also close to 3 subway stops as well as the hop on hop off bus tour stops (the bus is a complete waste of money, driving anywhere in nyc is near impossible we had a 2 day pass and after using it the first day to get from the hotel to Times Square, it took over an hour, we used the subway every time after that). However, the location is pretty horrible. The streets all around are very dirty and it really didn't feel safe when returning at night. It really is in the middle of china town but not what you expect as a tourist in terms of chinese lanterns and lots of eateries. The only shops close by were all in chinese but appeared to sell nothing we would want to look at as tourists and as for the Chinatown and little Italy for eating, it's not really that close. And you aren't anywhere near any sights, everything is 3+ subway stops away. The subway doesn't take long, is efficient and costs $2.75 per journey. Overall, if you took that hotel and placed it closer to Times Square it would've gotten 5* from me. Definitely on a 3* level though. We found eating and drinking very expensive across the whole city. Spending a minimum of $150 a day between 2 of us and that was often only having a coffee and cake at lunch and one course and a soft drink, or even water, at dinner.

"Great hotel, nice breakfast, and good location."

5
06/12/2017

Located near China Town and little Italy. Totally within walking distance of some great restaurants in Little Italy and cheap souvenirs in China Town. Close to a metro stop. We like to walk, and found this within walking distance to the Brooklyn bridge battery Park, freedom tower, and the Staten island ferry. The hotel is clean. Bathrooms are a bit old feeling, but clean. We really enjoyed the breakfast especially the yogurt machine with fresh berries and toppings.

"Good hotel and good location"

4
05/12/2017

Hotel staff were all very friendly and approachable and happy to help with directions, booking taxis etc. The rooms were good and clean. The hotel location was good, close to subway stations and very easy to get around the city from the hotel. The breakfast was good, serving waffles and pancakes and small selection of hot cooked food.

"Trip to NYC - Theatre Christmas gift"

5
04/12/2017

My daughter gave me a ticket to a Broadway show for Christmas this year. The theater district is very expensive, so I found this hotel in the Bowery. Not close to the Theater District but very close to the subway. Staff were exceptionally helpful, they permitted us to store our luggage, check in early, provided helpful advice. They made the trip nearly care free. The hotel is located in Chinatown and Little Itaal, lots of great food close by. The complimentary breakfast was very nice - fresh raspberries!!!!!

"I would definitely stay here again"

4
03/12/2017

From the helpful staff, to the great location, to the spotless and comfy rooms—this place is a winner. Within walking distance to Soho shopping, subway stops, Chinatown and Little Italy as well. An amazing breakfast is included in your stay, so you really can't go wrong with this choice.

"Pleasantly Shocked"

5
03/12/2017

Stayed here only because of a Priceline name ur own deal on an expensive wknd.Read all reviews after booking to prepare myself for what I was expecting to feel like what Chinatown looks like. I totally mis judged this little gem. It was great and I'd totally stay again. Very clean , great location for walking and subway access and late night dining, nice breakfast, friendly staff

"Nice Hotel In Chinatown"

4
29/11/2017

Stayed here for one night on a visit to NYC. This hotel is located amongst several Asian markets and restaurants and a short walk to Italian markets and eateries. This is a good basic hotel with friendly and professional staff. A good basic breakfast is included. Less than two blocks to Grand Street subway station.

"Dmonte"

I would definitely stay at your his hotel again. It was clean & staff was very professional. The location is very convenient to downtown.there was so many restaurants in walking distance from hotel, not to mention little Italy section!!!

"Family Fun"

5
27/11/2017

The Best Western Bowery Hanbee is a wonderful place to stay. The staff is extremely helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The coffee and hot beverages 24 hours, in the lobby. are extremely helpful to for us,especially when it is a cold night. The coffee is superb . Even more wonderful , along with that, there is coffee in the room. I recommend Best Western Bowery Hanbee to all. My family who resides in NY compliments this hotel highly.

"Good budget NY option"

4
24/11/2017

This hotel is reasonably priced considering how expensive NYC accommodation is. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was very good, clean and spacious. Breakfast options were great but it can get busy and the one single staff member struggled to replenish depleted items. Seating was often hard to find. This hotel is in Chinatown (not the most pleasant area) but the subway and bus is close and you are only a couple of blocks from the more pleasant Little Italy region.

"Good Value : )"

18/11/2017

100m. Metro, location great as well. Good breakfast. Nice staff, allways smiley, friendly and helpful. Clean room and good sized . ...poor fitness"center". Toukokuuta Will not disapointed. First Time New York...amazing Palace.

"Reasonable price for a NYC hotel"

3
18/11/2017

I occasionally travel to NYC for business and normally stay in the financial district. We had a group for 4 staying for 3 nights and didn't want to pay $500 a night for rooms and discovered the Bowery. Great price for a hotel a short cab ride away from our destination. Pros - small but comfortable room, beautiful hardwood floors, decent breakfast with a helpful friendly staff working the area Cons - rooms are far from soundproof for a light sleeper (me) There was a problem with our bills at checkout. Four rooms booked together and one party in our group was being charged a much higher rate for the same room. After much discussion with the desk it was finally adjusted after producing our email confirmation. Would stay here again but would carefully check my bill to confirm the pricing expected

"Nice Stay"

4
17/11/2017

We really enjoyed this place. Convenient for Chinatown and Little Italy, with great shopping and restaurants within walking distance. Not too far from the subway. Rooms are nice and the staff is extremely accommodating. Maybe the fastest housekeeping I've ever experienced. Love the heated floors

"Very good hotel for Business"

4
14/11/2017

Very good hotel reachable within 15 mins to major attractions and including Financial district. Service has been very good and the amenities provided are sufficient enough. Breakfast options are good.

"Much more than it seems"

5
13/11/2017

At first sight the hotel may seem unpleasant. The entrance is really very strange, it seems to be in a laundry on the ground floor but then when you arrive at reception on the second floor everything changes. Open and clean space and above all very friendly and professional staff. The breakfast is great and the waitresses are really the top, kind, helpful and attentive to the needs of the customers. The room is large and very clean. Simply a great experience, I'll come back!!!

"5 day visit to NY"

4
12/11/2017

Hotel is in great location to see NY. Good transport links as tube is 2 minute walk away. We walked to 9/11 about half hour. Breakfast area is not the best but food was good and there is enough to set you up for the day. Staff there were really helpful and we would definitely stay here again.

"A delightful stay"

4
10/11/2017

Best waffles I've had in America and if waffles aren't your thing they have a great selection of breakfast food to choose from. They have friendly staff especially dana just to name one of many, we talked about cannolis one morning, and she had some waiting in my room with a card saying thank you and enjoy the rest of your stay when I got back i wasnt expecting such a sweet surprise. They have economic friendly options with longer stays, and by this they just make the bed instead of washing and putting new sheets on the bed every day all you have to do is put out the card they have. The rooms are comfortable and not cluttered

"Excellent hotel"

4
07/11/2017

We just returned from six nights at this excellent hotel. It's a hidden gem in Chinatown. We didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff but they were very nice. The free breakfast is super. Don't let "continental breakfast" fool you. It's much more! Eggs, bacon/ sausage, potatoes, danish, yogurt, cereal, fruit, berries, pancakes, waffles and more! They are not a lot of breakfast options nearby so this makes it even better. We had a very large room... a comfortable king bed and pull out couch, several chairs, table and frig. Heated floor in the bathroom was a neat touch. My only complaint is that the pullout couch mattress should be replaced. It's very close to the subway line. Highly recommend this hotel and would stay again.

"GREAT HOTEL!"

06/11/2017

exellant lacation, exellant location close metro station b-d and j-z and near Little italy, staff at front desk very friendly, polite and helpful, very good breakfast, very comfy bed, room very clean and spacious.

"Great location, rooms need cleaning"

3
04/11/2017

Great location and very friendly staff. We stayed at the hotel two times. This time I the room was a little too dirty. I saw a lot a dust on walls, furniture. It could use a good cleaning. The location is almost perfect. You can easily walk to Soho and Lower East Side.

"So so at best in service..good location (kind of)"

3
31/10/2017

If you can find alternatives, get it. This hotel is not worthy of almost 400 dollars per nite at all..If you want a decent custmer service (as I am a loyal Bestwestern member) and breakfast, go somewhere else.

"Great location, great rate, great service, great breakfast, great room. Stay here!"

27/10/2017

For the price, the BW Bowery Hanbee is a gem. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this property! It may not be luxurious, but it's everything you need. If you want posh, go pay $200 more per night down the street. If you want a nice, clean, well-appointed, perfectly-located, safe hotel - stay here. Location: Perfect for Lower Manhattan exploration. 1 block from the subway to Midtown. Incredible array of shops, restaurants, sights in the nearby Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo neighborhoods. We walked at night each night we were here and never felt unsafe. Service: Exemplary. Check in, check out, breakfast, housekeeping... we encountered all of them during our stay and were impressed at every turn. Additional notes: Free breakfast was a great perk. Saved us a meal at NYC prices. Had fruit, juice, breads/pastries/bagels, a really cool pancake maker, and a 'yogurt machine' with all the toppings. The bag check service on check-in and check-out is invaluable. We arrived early and our room wasn't ready. We could've been put into a standard room, but in order to make use of a status upgrade we needed to wait. They took our bags, which allowed us to roam the neighborhood for a short while until the upgraded room was ready. We also used the service on check-out to spend a few more hours walking around before hopping a train to make our way out of town. I also used the small, but very functional, business center... which worked perfectly. The desk had a complimentary toothbrush on hand for me when I realized I'd forgotten to pack mine. I'll definitely be back at the BW Bowery Hanbee next time I'm in New York.

"In need of improvement"

3
27/10/2017

Good location in China Town with excellent dining options nearby but hotel is being remodelled and breakfast was a disaster. Also rooms are worn and in need of a touch up. Close to subway and Little italy.

"Great location in Chinatown & Little Italy."

5
18/10/2017

Enjoyed our stay here. Close to subway and restaurants. It was fun to walk around and see the street vendors. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Clean & comfortable room. The frosted window between the bathroom & bedroom was awful-if someone turned on the light in the bathroom, the bedroom was lite up too-mad it hard to sleep.

"Untrained Staff & Unclear Statement"

2
16/10/2017

When I haul my luggage out, the house-keeping staff walk by the hallway and "assumed" that I've checked out not know that I want to settle my Mom and the luggage then I go back to my room to check on any miscellaneous items left and grab my laptop/briefcase. He grabbed my belonging that I spotted him at the hallway. It is totally unacceptable to intrude the room without the acknowledgement or awareness of the hotel guest!! Front desk clerk showed his impatience. They all need to be trained. Listing on the Statement provided a various list of tax codes charged on each day without detail explanation. The price listed on booking.com is different from the check-out charge. I It needs to be clearly listed on those "tax codes" that are understandable by all customers!! Bad experience during my stay and not recommended.

We were pleasantly surprised by the BW Bowery Hanbee Hotel: clean and spacious rooms with lots of daylight (rare for most NYC hotels), friendly, helpful & highly professional staff. Would love to stay here again.

Dealt with Lyn on a reservation issue. She could not have been nicer and more efficient. We always stay there when we come to town. Great location. Excellent service. Tasty breakfast, and perfectly comfortable accommodations. Great price too. Thanks Lyn!

"Nice hotel for the price - Good Location"

4
07/10/2017

For the price of the stay, I could not have found anything better. Since I booked only a few days in advance, the prices were above the average. The hotel is ok, clean and has an average breakfast. The room is clean as well, but mine had no view. No extra charge for packages and the service is great. One nice thing is the the room was really quiet. I recommend the stay, if the price is good.

"Wonderful Place to stay"

06/10/2017

Every year at the beginning of March. I fly from Las Vegas to NYC for a few days of Photographing a few friends and attend the anniversary of my favorite local Bar. Without fail this is the only Hotel I stay in. I have been staying here for years and the rooms are always immaculate and the staff is always friendly. after about 8 years of making this annual trip some of the staff even remembers me each year. This place is so comforting and a relaxing place to stay..

"A Good Stay"

4
03/10/2017

Reasonably priced hotel (for Manhattan). Location OK for Lower East Side. Close to 2 subways and Chinatown and Little Italy. Unusually for Manhattan, stay includes a good buffet breakfast. Little bit noisy, but that's Manhattan.

"Good value"

02/10/2017

Great location and friendly service. The only complaint is the rooms are bright in the morning due to a frosted window without curtains in the bathroom and a glass panel between the bathroom and bedroom. It let's in needed light during the day but too bright in the morning.

"Comfort in a small package"

4
28/09/2017

I enjoyed the stay. Very nice bathrooms. The breakfast was 2 thumbs up. I'm staying there on my Nov 2017 business trip. Typical small rooms for the NYC area since their foot print extends up vice out as in the south.

"Great little hotel "

4
26/09/2017

Right in the heart of Chinatown and little Italy. This is a great place to stay. It's not fancy or luxurious. It's a hotel. It's new York nothing is cheap. The rooms are big for new York. Bed was perfect. Bathroom was great. Breakfast is ok. Not a huge selection but hey it's included. Did some research and no one else came close to matching this and breakfast. Yes it's plastic cutlery and paper plates but it's not a bad thing. Great place to sit outside and have breakfast. The staff are very friendly and helpful. As we are Australian good coffee is hard to find and here is no different. The coffee is not the best. Yes the air conditioning makes noise but to be honest all your doing is sleeping in this hotel and after a day of walking around you will crash. Close to D line Grand subway. Would stay again. Thank you to all the great staff who made our stay wonderful.

"Mediocre"

Not sure why this hotel earns a "certificate of excellence" from Trip Advisor. It's mediocre at best. The rooms are tired. The A/C is loud, as are the room doors up and down the corridors, making it hard to get a good night's sleep. The iron sprayed white powder all over my work clothes. (They did swap it out for a new iron upon my request.) The fitness center was a joke: You take the elevator up to the 10th floor, and step off into a tiny little room with three old pieces of equipment. The worst part, as others have commented, is the breakfast. No decent fresh fruit, and the coffee came out of a machine. For a cup of decent coffee, every morning I had to walk two blocks. For almost $300/night before taxes for the most basic room, they could at least serve decent breakfast and coffee. On the positive side, the dining seating area was pleasant. In my room, the bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom fixtures were fine. The location worked for my purposes: It's right on the cusp of Chinatown and Little Italy, and just a few doors from Bowery, which you can walk up to reach lower Midtown. I don't agree with reviewers who said it's dangerous. It's no more sketchy than any other area in New York City.

"A great stay"

22/09/2017

Stayed 5 nights here. Very clean room, comfortable bed and quiet at night despite it's very central location. Cheaper than hotels in mid/ upper Manhattan. We also loved the location- Little Italy and China town so lots of places to eat. Broadway is a short walk away if you are new to the city and want to use that for heading out on foot up town or downtown. The subway is a 5 minute walk- very handy for getting to the Yankees stadium ( on line D ) if you are going to a game and coming home late. The staff were friendly and helpful and we loved the breakfast with outside dining if you want. There was a good variation of hot food with the most delicious omelettes!!! We looked forward to breakfast every morning and it was included in the hotel price as was free wifi- not the case with quite a few other hotels we looked at. Would definitely recommend to friends ( and don't often do that).

The hotel is perfectly situated to explore Chinatown and lower Manhattan, surrounded by cafes, shops, and restaurants and very near a subway station. The rooms were super clean and comfortable as was the lobby area overlooking Grand St. - a perfect place for people watching. There is also a lovely outside courtyard for breakfast.

My sister chose this hotel. No complaints. Was surprised that it was actually good. Very close to the Subway lines B/D. A few blocks a way from Little Italy. Right smack in China Town. Walking distance to SOHO too.

"Two words : bed bugs"

10/09/2017

Stayed a week, in August 2017... Well, well... on the positive side : - the hotel is very very well located - rooms are spacious - breakfast is not good, but filling BUT (1) I am sorry, but this hotel did NOT show Best Western standards : -rooms were overall dirty (holes in the bed sheets, old and small towels, curtains and walls very very dirty...) - there is no service at breakfast (a machine will make your pancakes, you have to clean after yourself...never seen such a thing before, even in youth hostels !!) and you will have to use plastic cups, plastic forks... it's 2017 ans Best Western is still turning our planet into a giant garbage bin. BUT (2) Bed bugs. And when we told the manager after a 3 nights that we had very serious doubts (woke up with bed bugs bites all over our body)... she did NOT look surprise at all (and take look at previous reviews below... we shuld have, there has been other victims). I must say, she was super nice and reactive and gave us another room, a bigger one, right away. So I can't blame the staff, really, they reacted in a nice way. It's just not ok for a Best Western and a hotel THIS EXPENSIVE to have bed bugs. We just hope that other people will not experience this and that we did not bring any bug home... We had to go through a lot of cleaning to make sure we did not. Not exactly my ideal holiday. Needless to say : never again.

This property is solid from top to bottom. Awesome staff, and fantastic location. I will be back, and will be sure to recommend to anyone traveling to NYC. I truly felt like I was in the heart of the action at this property. The entire team was helpful, authentic, and I enjoyed each and every interaction I had with them. Well done!

After a long day of moving this hotel was exactly what we needed. Friendly and help staff directed to a clean shower and a comfy bed. Would recommend for a outoftowner or a true New York looking for a nice inexpensive hotel option.

Perfect location for those travelers interested in NY life below Midtown. Close to all major subway lines in Manhattan and easy access to trains going to Brooklyn and Queens. Hotel is clean, safe, quiet and the staff is friendly. The early complimentary breakfast makes it easy to get a fast start on the day's adventures with a nutritious meal.

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The entrance was hard to find as the sign on the street not as visible with all the crazy signs in China town. People hang out right in front of the hotel entrance because it doesn't look like the business is open at the street level. I've had to ask people to move out of my way so that I can enter the building several times. Front desk staff were friendly and let me leave my suitcase before the check in. Unfortunately, my room was right next to the elevator which made it pretty noisy with people going by. I had no problem with the room but it smelled a little like a wet rug. Over all, it was pretty accessible and convenient. You get what you paid for.

"Manager"

22/08/2017

I was not satisfied with this hotel and I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to anyone. The room was poorly lit and there wasn't a microwave or a fridge to facilitate you while staying at this hotel. I wasn't happy with my stay at all.

"Awesome Hotel! Great Location"

22/08/2017

This hotel is in the perfect location, the rooms are very clean, the breakfast in the morning was good. The staff provided 100% customer service. And Lynn, the manager was so helpful to us she made sure we had the address to the hotel, that we was aware of parking, and any information regarding the surrounding area. Again I just cant say enough nice things about this hotel you have to give them a try!!

"Great Hotel in NYC"

If you like to be in the Nolita and East Village areas, this is a good choice. The service is good, we got the handicap room which was large. Comfortable bed, and a surprisingly great breakfast which was included in the price. It was definitely good value for money!

"A good place to stay."

18/08/2017

I often complain readily but it turned out to be a good hotel to stay in. The breakfast was plentiful and gluten free bread available, just ask the serving staff. I could not always eat all the cooked food choices (as some contained gluten) but the scrambled egg and omelette were quite acceptable. The room was good and noise from the street was muffled by the heavy glazing, except in the bathroom so keep the bathroom door closed. The bathroom door had no lock on it. Minor points: All hotels should have different coloured sets of towels so that occupants in shared rooms know which are their towels by the colour. My only real gripe was that someone had left a telephone message for me on my room phone but there was no way I could know that a message had been left, like no flashing light, so I never got the massage. My 230volt UK shaver worked perfectly well on the American 120volt sockets without having to use any transformer (unless the hotel had rigged it for European guests or possibly my shaver was designed to accept either voltage without a volt switch on the shaver) . Just remember to bring a UK to US adaptor. Same applied to charging iphones. Staff were all very friendly and polite. Excellent service when requiring a car to the airport and luggage can be stored on your last day if needed.

"Amazing Staff & Great location !"

13/08/2017

Spent 5 nights at this hotel. Rooms are clean & comfortable. Complimentary Breakfast is amazing. The STAFF at the front desk, Breakfast Staff & Housekeeping is very responsive. Customer orientation & service by all the Staff we encountered is of the highest order. The hotel is located right next to Little Italy - amazing Italian food - best brick oven Pizza ever, super Italian cuisine & the one and only FERRARAS Italian bakery & Gelatos - Super food. In the evenings, the streets of Little Italy are filled with people just ambling along Mulberry St - NYPD converts Mulberry St into a Pedestrian Plaza - no cars allowed. We had such a great time. Highly recommend this hotel.

"Good Best Western"

4
12/08/2017

Excellent Best Western for the value. The complimentary breakfast was excellent. The staff was very helpful. My only disapointment was the beds and pillows, they are extremly hard on the back. Keep the fan on in the room or else you will hear everything on the outside and wont be able to sleep.

"The Friendly hotel"

5
10/08/2017

I stayed at the Best Western Bowery Nanbee during October 2016. I enjoyed everything about my stay, but in particular the friendly staff. They contributed enormously toward the quality of my stay. The hotel is in a great location, situated between Little Italy and China town, which means that one has a great choice of local cuisine. I was able to walk to galleries, and all that the big apple has on offer. I am returning in December 2017 and I'm looking forward to returning to the hotel and to be greeted by the great staff. I recommend it highly to all travellers!

"Brilliant value for money, clean hotel and friendly staff"

07/08/2017

Having been to NYC a few times now, we knew we wanted to stay downtown in an area that would have plenty going on. Bowery is exactly that! The hotel basically borders Chinatown and Little Italy and Nolita, so you are never short of great restaurants, bars and shops. Most of the places nearby did lunch specials and happy hours, so if you time your days right you can really cut costs (always a win in NYC). We actually walked to the East Village a couple of nights and found it's pretty cheap there too as it's quite studenty. The hotel itself is very clean and the rooms are spacious with big bathrooms and large shower areas. The cleaning staff are very friendly and always said hi in passing. The front office staff are also very helpful (all young guys when we visited and completely the opposite of the NYC cliche of people being rude). When we stayed, the lobby was being moved and the breakfast area didn't exist so we had to take breakfast to our room but that didn't bother us in any way as the hotel did the best it could to work around it. The ONLY criticism i have is that the person who checked us in took a security deposit from my card without telling me. I actually wanted to pay the security on my other credit card but he charged the card i paid the room with and didn't tell me until after. It took ten working days to be refunded which left me with no money when i got back to the UK. So just make sure you check before handing over any cards whether they are taking just the room rate or an additional sum! I would still stay here again though.

"Great location, great staff!"

05/08/2017

Initially, I was a little wary of this location, but it turned out perfectly. The room was spacious, clean and modern! The check in staff was really friendly and helpful in providing me with map and directions to navigate where I was going! The free breakfast was a great way to keep me going for a few hours, and the selection was more than just your average continental fare! There were some fruit and vegetable stands just outside the hotel to buy and take along some snacks. Little Italy is close by for dining and there are some fantastic little coffee shops in the area too. The subway is about a block away and it took me all of about 20 minutes to get to Central Park. Great value staying at the Bowery and I will stay here again!

Very good hospitality and welcome in reception. Clean rooms and good breakfast with much more than cornflakes. Printer is available if needed to print any tickets or other items needed during travelling. Restaurants and laundry available around. Quite close to two subway stations so easy to get to other areas in the city. Fairly high cost but good memories are worth it.

our stay at the hotel was just right. Pretty straightforward and uncomplicated. For us, it's a great location as we like to hang our in Little Italy. Clean, comfortable, decent breakfast and friendly staff. We were part of a fairly large group and everyone was satisfied. We would return!

"Good Hotel for reasonable price"

14/07/2017

Hotel looks rough from the outside and easy to miss. Had a 2 Queen Room purchased through Hotels.com Bad: poor clothing storage one small wardrobe no drawers for clothes, no vent in bathroom so window in washroom needed to be opened for air. Vending machines were sold out of many drinks and bill part not functioning. Room was tightly laid out not much room. Good: Inside is recently renovated and has decent rooms. Bathroom in floor heating was nice Beds were comfortable, service was good. Breakfast was good and lots of food. Great spot if you spend most of your day out in the city. 1 block to C/D Metro trains and 2 blocks to Little Italy an lots of great food and shops

"Hidden Costs"

3
13/07/2017

It is unclear to me why TripAdvisor can not provide the bottom line price with all taxes and fees before we decide to take the hotel room. Without fail, there are always other fees and taxes that are uploaded in the final bill. For this reason, I will go to the hotel website in the future rather than using TripAdvisor. I thought of disputing the bill, but I do not want my credit cared to get involved. David

"Great Location !"

12/07/2017

Nice hotel , really great location , LARGE rooms ( at least our Suite) , decent breakfast , friendly staff . Subway station close , Broadway close , Little Italy and Chinatown very close so all the food you might crave is right there..

"Great Service, Good Location"

4
11/07/2017

The service at Best Western Bowery Hanbee was great. We checked in a bit early and they gave us a king room instead of a queen when we asked and also made sure we where comfortable being on the second floor. The AC was strong and the room was clean and a decent size. Breakfast was a waffle machine, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, hashbrowns, and assorted breads. When we checked out, Jeffrey was great in helping me store my bags for the day and also offered us a chocolate bar upon leaving. The location is also very decent, in Chinatown and an easy walk from Soho/Nolita. Would definitely come back!

"Great location and spacious rooms"

4
10/07/2017

This hotel is in a great location! Walking distance to east village, little Italy, Chinatown, soho, west village, financial district, and more. So many great restaurants just blocks away. And great access to the subway! It does get pretty busy on the surrounding major streets during the day, but quiets down (as much as the city does) by night. On top of location, the room surpassed my expectations in terms of size, for NYC standards. There was plenty of room to move around and store luggage. And the bathroom was HUGE! Large shower was so nice! I would definitely stay here again! Great value! My only complaint is that I called the hotel after my stay to see if I left something behind in my room. But I had to call 4 times (because they always claimed they would check and call back) before getting an answer on whether they found the item.

"Good Sleeps in Chinatown"

4
10/07/2017

Fun location, in the middle of Chinatown and around the corner from Little Italy. Very safe, low-key and unassuming place....but with character. Would DEFINITELY stay here again. Close to the subway and within walking distance of anything one might ever need.

"Great hotel for the price"

5
05/07/2017

I've just stayed here with my family and found this hotel to be a very good choice for the price compared to mid town hotels. It's located in the middle of China town and little Italy with the Grand Street subway station a 5 minute walk away. The subway gets you to Times Square in around 15 minutes and is easy to use. An added bonus with the hotel is that breakfast is included which is not the norm in NYC. The room was modern and comfortable as were the beds. The breakfast area can get a bit crowded but there is a nice outdoor seating area. If you have any queries the reception staff are great and will go out of their way to help you. If you are looking for a good budget option and don't mind using the subway then this is a good choice. With regards to the subway, it's definately the quickest and cheapest way to get around New York if you haven't been before. A little tip, if you want to buy a subway metro card there are machines in virtually every subway station and if you're not a US resident and want to pay by card, when it asks for your ZIP code just enter 99999.

"Construction and Tick Incident"

1
05/07/2017

I stayed at the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel in mid-May for a business trip. The entire hotel was under construction for renovations. There was a lot of dust, wet paint on walls, and ripped up baseboards. But beyond the construction, I woke up with a TICK latched onto my chest. The night before I had showered and was clean and tick free prior to putting on my pajamas and going to bed. The next morning when I was getting dressed, I felt something hard on my chest. I looked down and it was a large tick embedded in me. I had to take a pair of tweezers and pull the tick out of me. I then preceded to get dressed and went down to the lobby. I showed the tick to the two men working at the front desk. They were both appalled, as was I, and apologetic. I had to run to a meeting and told them I would be back in the evening to discuss this because it was entirely unacceptable and traumatizing. The workers advised me to dispose of the tick by flushing it down the toilet in the lobby. They ensured me my room would be inspected for bed bugs while I was at work. When I came back to the hotel later that evening, the front desk worker was not even aware of the tick incident early that morning. I then had to ask if my room had even been inspected. She told me the manager had looked at my room and did not find anything. They couldn't even bother to have a certified bug exterminator inspect my room to see if there were bed bugs or any additional ticks. The room looked completely untouched by any sort of inspector, all they did was make the bed. In addition, the hotel did not even offer to move me into a different room. The following three days before and after work, the manager just so happened to conveniently be out of the office. I tried about six different times to speak with a manager and every time I was informed that there was no manager present. The hotel never even offered to give me any kind of compensation or refund. The staff was very unaccommodating with the tick incident and I was extremely disappointed in my stay. I definitely will not be returning to this hotel, and I suggest you don't as well.

"Hotel under construction"

2
29/06/2017

We booked this hotel for our trip to NY City in May. We were not informed at all that the hotel was under heavy construction, dust and dirt everywhere. This came to us as unpleasant surprise once arrived to the hotel, we were not told about this before hand. We couldn't stay one night in this place (asthma) and the staff wasn't too understanding, we needed to make several phone calls in order to get a refund. In the end we got the refund which was appropriate and nicely done from the hotel staff.

The hotel is fine albeit a little strange, it's hard to describe exactly but it doesn't have a hotel feel to it. The front desk is great the people are polite the rooms are nice but for some reason it just doesn't feel cozy. Location is good for little Italy and chinatown, Rooms are decent for the price.

Had a great experience at this BW. Staff was super; helpful and pleasant, including Front Desk, Breakfast crew and maintenance guys. Room was very clean and comfortable bed; bathroom updated and loved the window in there for the brightness. Food choices for breakfast great! Fresh and delicious. Overall, very good experience and will return on future trips.

22/06/2017

My room was bigger than I expected and silent as well, but I stayed at the 8th floor. The breakfast area is small but I liked the quality and the variety of the products. The location is great. Easy access to subways and walking distance from Soho, Tribeca and other sightseeing points.

"Nice NYC stay"

4
18/06/2017

The hotel is on the border of Chinatown and Little Italy; good restaurants nearby, subway two blocks away. The hotel is clean, well managed and has rooms more spacious than many in NYC. The logistics of the breakfast could be improved -- crowded and difficult to navigate.

Clean hotel, quiet, couldn't hear the city noise. Close to subway stations. Could easily get to all tourist points, Brooklyn Bridge, downtown, Times Square, ESB, etc... breakfast was super convenient and hotel staff was extremely helpful and courteous. I also heard them communicating with several other guests with different languages.

"Good for the price/nice and clean"

12/06/2017

This is a great hotel convenient to Midtown and Union Square-and the downtown theater district. I love the lack of carpets - very clean. Breakfast is a bit of a disappointment - people trying to get to tepid food, reaching over each other. Still, it filled us up and was overall a good choice for the neighborhood.

"Great value"

Stayed only 2 nights but was excellent value for the money. Also really nice front desk staff. I slept like a baby! Room was quiet, bathroom good sized, I was upgraded, and had no problem finding it and getting in and out.

"Breackfast service much below minimum standard"

I suggest to book this hotel WITHOUT breakfast as the quality and organisation is below a minimum standard (il buongiorno si vede dal mattino!!). In the neighbours there is plenty of very good and cheap breakfast places

Pros...clean ROOM......Good staff...close to little italy Cons.....we were there whilst renovating....OMG what a friggin circus...mold could be seen in the hallways where they are pulling the whatever off the walls...we have pictures. Breakfast was a joke...was going to suggest they take the yummy breakfast picture out of the elevator..was nothing like suggested....it was take away if you could get in the tiny room and never on time. I found the breakfast lady very arrogant and ignored me when asking what time breakfast was served. 30 minutes late and all i wanted was coffee. Would I stay here again....yes as i'm sure with the renovations these problems will be solved.

"Possibilities"

4
28/05/2017

Hotel was undergoing some major remodeling and updating when we were there, so it's hard to leave an accurate review. The location at the edge of Chinatown was certainly excellent for the area around NYU, and the price, while of course outrageous for anywhere else, was quite reasonable for Manhattan. Despite the construction, the rooms were clean and a good size, especially in comparison to other hotel rooms in Manhattan. The breakfast was a little disorganized and lacking as a result of the remodel in process but that should hopefully change upon completion. The staff was very helpful. Once the remodel is done, the hotel should look quite nice. Hopefully they won't further increase the price as a result.

26/05/2017

My family stayed here for 3 nights, 4 days. The hotel exterior isn't the best, but the interior definitely is. They recently renovated their hotel & the rooms which makes it clean & neat. Their choice of artpieces are smart too. I love their menu of continental breakfast. While it is simple, I love the fact how they are so delicious (none of them are super salty or sweet - just right, more of a healthy side). Waffles are good as well! Several fruits to choose from! Moreover, in the room, wifi works just fine, and the a/c works properly. One of the best things is the shower. As soon as you come back from your day, when you turn on the shower, the hot water comes out within a second (which is pretty nice) - lol. The staffs are friendly & prompt. Overall, great place to stay & location wise it's close to little italy, soho, and others!!!

"Construction ..."

20/05/2017

With family booked that and when we arrived late night we found the room linens not changed room was not prepared properly and painting boxes, instruments and some staff in corridor with lots of construction dust. No way we should stay as it was midnight and were all tired after 12-14 hours flight. We could not sleep due to allergic rhinitis related with paint and dust. But more is related with suspect of unchanged - not clean linens and pillows. We could not sleep. Trip adviser or provider could have warned us or better to close partly the levels in the repair period. No one would like to stay in a hotel room with brush sounds, painting staff sounds, dirty corridors, dust and smell. That is to say the hotel administration was very polite and helpful when my wife complained as she has allergy to paint and dusts and also linens were not clean. The administration reduced 200 usd from the 1150 usd and apologized. They said they could inform tripadvisor recently. And they provided a paper apologizing and offering 25% discount for the next direct booking from the hotel. I dont think that we may take this as an advantage but still a polite way. We thank to the hotel staff and administration for their kindness and good intention. The breakfast and wi fi were fine. Location is easy. Beds are comfortable and rooms are not bad. Not expensive for Manhattan. I am sure they will improve after repairmen. No need to worry if you booked as it may be much better after completion of the repairmen and painting. As i said the staff and administration has a good intention and approach to the guests and they were very helpful.

"Great location, clean room"

16/05/2017

Location is great, in the beginning of Chinatown and Little Italy. Close to public transportation to bring you to midtown. Great choice of restaurants close by. Rooms were clean, but the beds need a new mattresses (saggy and 1 room even had the end of the bed internal springs broken), I've been in various rooms for 4 months business stays and all is same conclusion. If can spring for the upgrade (biggest) king room with the mini living room and microwave. Can sleep a family of 4.

Had lovely pictures in the lift showing a yummy breakfast, but it was not good. A real tease. Who ever was arranging the revamp, couldn't organize it at all, Spoilt our whole New York experience. We are well travelled, and don;t moan for nothing. Terribly overpriced for the yucky state that it is in currently, I can see it will be nice when finished, But the way it is I recon its at 140/niter and no more., And for the circus from breakfast they may as well of not had it until revamp finished.

Hello kimbA58PP, We like to express to you our sincerest apologizes about your experience during our renovations. This has been a trying time for all of our guests. Our operations has been put through the grinder with everything, breakfast, loss of lobby and breakfast lounge area and especially to our sleeping floors. The renovations went through several hiccups, we tried to have as minimal effect for our guest as possible. Our final stage to guest floors is expected to finish end of this month. All guest affected by this have been offered a 25% discount for future stay if you book direct and mention that you stayed during our "renovations". Please come back and let us change your impression of the Best Western Bowery. Sincerely, Best Western Bowery Team

Arrived to find major refurbishment in progress and that there was only limited breakfast available! Not warned prior to booking or even after. Feel that there should have been some prior warning of this

Lawrence H, General Manager at Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Adele N, We are terribly sorry that your experience in NYC was interrupted by our renovations. We tried our best to limit the disruption to our services as best as we could. I am sure that if you were to give us another opportunity that you will find our services and experience what you should have received this first time. Your final receipt can be used to redeem a 25% discount for future stay when reserving direct. We do hope that you will give us that second opportunity. Sincerely, Best Western Bowery

"Great Location"

14/05/2017

Fantastic location in Little Italy - close to many great restaurants. Room was clean and staff was fantastic, some of the best customer service I've ever had at a hotel. Good rate for NYC! I would definitely stay at this hotel again in the future.

"Perfect for our visit to New York."

12/05/2017

We arrived on a Sunday and stayed 6 nights in early May. There was an error with our booking but checkin staff did their best to meet our requirements and management took complete care of the error the following day. How wonderful to be at a hotel where customer service and satisfaction really matter! The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. We felt safe, welcome and very comfortable. The area was exciting with easy access to everything! Breakfast was satisfactory in spite of the renovations currently underway. We would love to return to this hotel on our next visit.

"Nice place to explore NY"

06/05/2017

Nice hotel in China Town. 1 min walk to the nearest subway station. 20 min walk to Financial District and Ground Zero site. The hotel was under renovation during our stay but that fact didn't cause any problem. Clear and good furnished room. Fast internet. The personal was very kind and helpful.

"Wait for renovations to finish"

4
25/04/2017

I stayed at this hotel before and was impressed with the location and service. But when I stayed this time, they are renovating the lobby and breakfast area. The temporary replacement for breakfast area is not the greatest and the staff seem to be less helpful and stressed for some reason. I would go back, but only when the work is done.

"Good location, friendly staff"

4
25/04/2017

This hotel was a perfect location for my trip, the staff were friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable. I would definitely stay there again. The negatives? The air-conditioning was a bit noisy and the guests next door, also, though only during the day.

"Surprisingly Good "

24/04/2017

I stayed at Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel April 21-23. When I walked in I was surprised because the lobby was downstairs at the entrance. I was notified that they were making improvements on the hotel. This surprised me because when I booked the hotel I was not notified. The front desk staff was extremely helpful I had room 808. I have been to New York two times prior and the rooms were small and cramped. When I walked into the room I was surprised it was a pretty decent size and enough space for two people plus. The room was clean, bed was comfortable and had a little sitting area with a table inside. The bathroom was also a nice size. The location was good for me the event I was attending was walking distance or a short ride away. The same desk personal suggested a restaurant for us to eat for dinner that was really good he was very personable and polite. He even printed out directions for us to go to Time Square. I wish I remembered his name but he made my stay more comfortable with his assistance. The hotel had complementary breakfast but because of the construction it was moved to a room. The hotel had directions on how to get to the room and It was easily found. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. The rooms were clean, a nice size and the staff was excellent.

"stinky pillows"

2
23/04/2017

The pillows smell awful. Blanket and sheets are in poor quality. It is under renovation, so it is inconvenience for customers. The check out person did not provide receipt for me yet. Just charge our credit card.

"Our visit "

3
23/04/2017

The rooms were ok for the price, the breakfast was awful, everything was frozen food, no flavor at all. Some Fresh fruits, but everything else full of conservatives, the location is good, just a block from two different metro stations. The place we're it's located doesn't seem to be really safe for tourists, be aware of it.

"Really bad standard"

1
20/04/2017

I regret so much I booked this hotel. Its really shabby. No reception, worn down... not worth the money at all! I thought Best Western was an international hotel chain that was a good standard, but I was wrong. Never Best Western again.

"First time to NYC!!"

4
18/04/2017

The hotel was fine. The location was nice. I was able to walk to Times Sqaure and lots of shopping and eating options. I was able to walk to World Trade Center. The location is very central to everything. The night auditor that checked me in was very friendly. The heated tile floors in the bathroom are a great touch. The only thing I did not like was I asked for shower gel to be delivered to my room since it ran out but was told that they could not go in my room even with my authority. I will stay at this hotel again. I cant wait to see the newly remodeled breakfast area.

"Won't be staying here again"

1
14/04/2017

Breakfast was supposed to run until 10. By 9:00, they were out of bagels, bread, and breakfast burritos. Had to go pay $20 for a NYC breakfast instead. So much for the complimentary breakfast. Also, every morning we were there, someone was hammering in an adjoining room around 8 in the morning. No baseboards in our room, so hotel must be doing renovations. Hotel is in Chinatown, not Little Italy, but about two blocks from Italian restaurants and also the subway. A plus is that DePalo's is close by if you want to check out a great Italian deli.

"BEST HOTEL IN CHINATOWN"

5
14/04/2017

This is my favorite hotel in this section of town. I block east and your in China town, one block west and your in little Italy. The price is reasonable, the staff is friendly. And the rooms are comfortable. So what's not to like ? Go here for a great NYC experience.

"A real taste of New York"

4
12/04/2017

Located in Chinatown-Little Italy makes this hotel within walking distance to almost anywhere in Lower Manhattan and even Brooklyn (walk across the Brooklyn Bridge). If you can't get there by foot, the Grand Street B & D subway station is practically across from the hotel. A very warm, friendly, and courteous staff who are real diehards setting up a makeshift Front Desk on the ground floor corridor while the lobby and dining room undergo major renovations. Worth return visits.

"Decent Hotel, Not Great"

3
10/04/2017

I stayed here while traveling through New York because I like China Town. I had a good time, the hotel is pretty average for a Best Western. The furniture in the room is clearly old and worn and the mattresses sag. But for a spot in China Town like that and a decent rate I would stay there again.

"Wonderful stay, amazing service and beds"

4
01/04/2017

We stayed for 10 days at Best Western Bowery Hotel, and this was indeed one of my best stays, so I am willing to share my excitement with you. The service was amazing. The stuff went out of their way to help us feel accommodated and welcome, and I would say, that 1) the level of service that you get and 2) the quality of your sleep and the quality of the beds are the greatest assets of BWBH. The location and the infrastructure are pretty convenient. Just on the border of China Town and Little Italy, so you will get plenty of options to dine and shop for food. The main disadvantages are: 1) lack of proper breakfast (it was something to wish for altogether). They do serve breakfast, but I wouldn't place hight hopes on your chances to get decent food at the hotel. 2) this area is very very noisy at night, every single night there was either some type of construction in the area, or garbage trucks, or other types of weird heavy sounds coming from the streets. Be prepared to sleep with windows shut and wake up very early due to doors slamming or the streets of lower Manhattan springing to life. If you are traveling with kids, please consider staying elsewhere. The hotel would be perfect for young adults and couples, for solo and group traveling, if you are ok with the area not being calm and peaceful at night. But once again, the service is amazing! The stuff are wonderful! It really compensates for any other minor or average inconvenience, that could arise.

"Excellent Location!"

01/04/2017

I was in NYC for 2 weeks for work and stayed at Best Western Hanbee! Terrific price and perfect location. Tons of affordable restaurants nearby and less than 2 blocks from Grand Street subway station. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was clean. Highly recommend if you visiting New York!

"Great value for NYC"

4
30/03/2017

We stayed at this hotel in January in a double queen room. There was 3 of us and the room was spacious enough for us. The room is clean, and we especially liked the heated floors in the bathroom. The hotel is a good location for first timers in NYC, a 5 min walk to the nearest subway and not too far to get to attractions. WiFi was good although you have to login again after 24hours. The only thing we would have liked is a minifridge in the room. Overall it has been a good stay, the staff are friendly and the hotel is great value for New York.

"Super good location, good restaurants, excellent service, friendly employee, better insight tham the outside look"

5
27/11/2016

Definitely we will repite this hotel. Fells like in house. Good location, safe end near to subway and important places to visit. We spend Thanksgiving in NY and was a best option online, and once there, everything was better

"Nice stay"

4
26/11/2016

Cons: I requested a quiet room when booking, but they gave me a room on 2nd floor that heard the noise from road traffic the whole night. Pros: The front desk staff Stanley is very nice and helpful, although he might look a bit serious at the beginning. Location of the hotel is very good, close to 2 subway stations and good Chinese cuisine.

"Go somewhere else"

1
22/11/2016

I was on a business trip and spent 7 nights in this hotel. I got a completely wrong invoice, but needed a correct one for my company in order to get my money back. So I asked for a revision. Front desk staff and management completely ignored my request and did not care about my problem. Hotels like this - without any customer focus - should be avoided. There are much better alternatives in NYC.

"Great affordable NY"

4
20/11/2016

The hotel is well located for easy subway connections. The Grand St. Station is just a long block away. Breakfast is reliable and good (Best Western style). Dining room is small and at peak times finding a place to sit can be a challenge. Popular with families - expect noisy kids. The rooms are spacious enough for the price, updated and quite comfortable with large bathrooms. Ask for a room away from the street above the patio - for noise control. Our queen bed room was perfect. AC works and is no more noisy than usual. WiFi is excellent. All is very clean. Staff is quite friendly, willing to help, and does their job well. For NYC this hotel represents excellent value.

"A great place to stay in a great location "

4
19/11/2016

We had a fabulous stay at this hotel. The location is great, sitting between Little Italy and China Town you are amongst the hustle and bustle of everyday life of New Yorkers with a good selection of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance of a few minutes. The underground system is a three minute walk away for transport to the iconic sites which the city has to offer. The hotel itself has fantastic staff on reception who are just so obliging, they make the stay seem special and are a good source of advice for tourists. The rooms we had (two) were large, very clean and very comfortable. The buffet style breakfast is adequate and the breakfast area a little austere. There is a convenient business centre comprising internet access and printer, ideal for checking in and printing boarding passes. Reception will store your luggage if you have a late flight and checkout leaves you with time on your hands. Overall this was a very good experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a short break in the city.

"Staff is outstanding"

5
18/11/2016

An excellent value alternative in NYC. Chinatown may deter many from considering it, but once inside, the hotel is worth what you pay for it. Staff is clearly the main reason for a very pleasant stay.

Dear gerardoe942, Thank you for staying the Best Western Bowery Hotel. The neighborhood is not bustling with tourist or the vibe of Time Square. The Best Western Bowery; I considered is a home away from home. Just steps outside fresh bakeries, fruit stands and a large assortment of restaurants to visit and try. The hidden gem! We are jsut thrilled that we accomplished to meet your expectations. Please do come on back to visit us again. Sincerely, Best Western Bowery Team

I love staying here for business travel. It is close to my office in Soho and the staff is great! The Front Desk Coordinator, Lisa, is the best. I look forward to seeing her every visit. She remembers my name and always has a smile. Thank you!

"Ideal Location, Friendly Staff"

4
15/11/2016

Wonderful welcome, all the friendly staff works as a team to provide very impressive quality of services. Quick check-in & check-out. Excellent centralized location. You can easily walk to Bowery station to connect to any corner of NYC. Little Italy is next street. The hotel room size is acceptable, just to relax, after each day of exploring New York. On the other hand, complimentary water bottles should be given at least once. After a long journey, I expect to have drinking water in my room. The complimentary breakfast choices could be a bit more of variety of food. Overall, my experience at this hotel has been very good.

"Good price-performance"

14/11/2016

This is an average hotel with large rooms, dated though. Just be aware that rooms x01 are small and close to elevators, which can disturb you during the night. Breakfast is average with hot food, bread, muffins, yogurt, bananas, apples, waffles and juice, however space is limitted and during the winter, without the possibility of using the outside area, it is impossible to fit all the guests. Location is perfect, Close to all good restaurants of Soho, Litle Italy, and steps from subway stations. Also pretty close to Brooklyn.

Lawrence H, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Bowery Hanbee Hotel, responded to this review
Hello marciocfig, Thank you for staying at the Best Western Bowery. Your reveiw is honest but refreshing. We are undergoing some changes in 2017 in hopes that can correct some of the issues such as in your review. Myself and the team hope that you will visit us to check out those improvements. Sincerely, Best Western Bowery Team

"The Best New York Has to Offer"

4
07/11/2016

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick, Chinatown, Little Italy, some of the best food in the world. These wonderful experiences and many more are offered every day in one of the most exciting cities in the world. While visiting NYC you should be able to stay at a hotel that takes cares of all the creature comforts so you can run around the city carefree. The Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel on Grand Street does the job reasonably well. The rooms are fairly large and comfortable. The showers are fairly strong and the stall is large enough for two. The breakfast is quite nice with good coffee and a tasty assortment of fresh muffins, bagels, breads for toasting, a make your own waffle station, hot and cold cereals, eggs and bacon or sausage, juices, fresh fruit, milk and other goodies. Everything a body needs to get going in NYC. The staff is friendly and helpful and the location is smack in the middle of Chinatown and Little Italy. Wonderful! I have stayed in many Best Western hotels in many cities over the years. Some are great, some are not. This hotel would be great if it would take care of a few little problems: 1. The closet in the room smells like dirty feet. Shoot some Febreze in there occasionally. I would love to hang up my clothes. 2. Swiffer the floors when making up the room EVERYDAY! C'mom guys. It takes 5 minutes and I would not have to brush my feet off every time I got into bed. 3. Why are you throwing my extra pillows on top of the closet? I can't reach them and when I tried to pull them down, the dust came down with it. 4. No hot water for hours on the second day of my stay! You've got to be kidding. No shower. No shave for my husband. (He was very grumpy.) We were told that a water main broke but then, we should have had no water at all. Looked up "water main break" on Dept. of Public Works website for that day in that area. No report of any break. Get a bigger water heater guys. The supply is not keeping up with the demand. I would stay here again. It is comfortable and it is in a great part of town. Upon checkout I talked with the operations manager about my concerns and was told I would receive an email within 48 hours with some sort of compensation. I'll be waiting, Lyn.

Lawrence H, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Bowery Hanbee Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Donna261, Thank you for your most recent stay at the Best Western Bowery and taking the time to post your reveiw. I am terribly sorry that experienced an unforeseen mechanical situation we had. It was not a water main break we experienced but in fact an issue with our boiler and pumps which was not providing hot water through out the building. We hoped to remedy the issue but at at the mercy of out bolier company to troubleshot and resolve. I am pleased that though there was a minor hiccup that it did not affect your overall stay and you were still able to enjoy this great city. The Best Western will be undergoing a facelift in 2017 and we hope that you will come back to check out those changes. We also hope that you complete a Best Western Survey for us as well and see you soon again. Sincerely, Best Western Bowery Team

06/11/2016

Depending what you are doing in NYC, that hotel had really served my purpose. Room is clean, bathroom is decent, and WiFi works perfect. Breakfast gets busy, better go early or later, avoid 8-9. If you love Chinese food, I would go outside, minutes to Chinese breakfast, bakery everywhere. Staff are very efficient and helpful. Be careful when booking your room, they are full constantly and changing from queen to twin or vice versa will be difficult. Rooms have street noise, don't go there if you want a quiet fancy hotel room.

"Not my first choice"

3
01/11/2016

This Hotel was basic, it was clean, the hotel staff very friendly and the location was close enough to walk to NYU which was important to me. The Hotel came with a free hot breakfast which I thought was barely edible. But there was cereal, baked goods and fruit too. The furniture was beat up looking but functional and that's what mattered most since all the hotels in Manhattan that week were booked in the $300 dollar range. If you need a safe and clean place for the night in Manhattan, this is a decent choice.

Lawrence H, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Bowery Hanbee Hotel, responded to this review
Dear MARY L, Thank you for your recent stay at the Best Western Bowery and we are glad that we make you needs. We are making big changes here and hope that you will return to see those changes. If you should be returning, i would love to personally take care of your reservation. Sincerely, Best Western Bowery Team

Nice and clean hotel in a pretty busy Chinese area. They serve regular breakfast - nothing special, just waffles, yogurts, fruits, eggs etc. It was a good stay, but next time I would prefer to keep away of Chinese block :).

The day I arrived, bed linens were wrinkled and smelled so bad that makes you wonder if they had changed them. The room was above the boilers or heating room so there was a constant noise day and night Housekeeping room was acroos the hall and they started making noise at 6:30 Breakfast was crowded , coffee is bad Only good thing are the guys at front desk very nice

"Not worth the price"

3
27/09/2016

Located on the 2nd floor and above of a building in China town area, definitely not worth the 485 USD I paid for a night. The room was small, basic and bathroom was clean enough. There was no view from the window. Both the telephones in my room didn't work and the staff didn't offer to have it fixed. They were not friendly or pleasant. Is it a new york attitude? The breakfast is basic - cereal, fruit, cooked eggs and a waffle maker to maker your own. Disposable plates and plastic cutlery. I wouldn't stay here again

"September in New York City"

4
25/09/2016

New York City in September is a great time to visit. You may get some light rain but more importantly it won't be too hot and muggy which make subway wait times a little uncomfortable. A light jacket/sweater is all you'd need but def bring a little pop up umbrella just in case. This trip was mainly for my parents to visit their granddaughter. Therefore I looked for a hotel in a location that was close proximity to amenities for first time New York City visitors. We're not fancy travellers and can get by on average hotels as long as they're clean and have friendly staff. Bowery Hanbee Best Western staff were great. The room we got was a suite (902). From the looks of the hotel map we got the biggest room in the hotel. There's a small gym on the 10th floor for those who didn't get enough walking from their day. There's a breakfast buffet that'll satisfy most travellers needs. Waffle maker, eggs usually scrambled and one meat item such as ham or sausage. Fresh fruits, cereal, variety of small pastries, bagel, yogurt and of course coffee and a choice of juices. Not bad since this is all included as part of your stay. Subway stations are all within a few blocks away. When you get to a subway station take a picture on your phone of the map and don't forget to remember whether you're going uptown or downtown from your location. This can get confusing at first but eventually you'll have figured it out and will move through the turnstiles like a local. Be sure to buy a week subway pass if you're in NYC for at least a week. This area is in between Little Italy and Chinatown. So, you're in luck if you like cultural diversity. Next to staying in Queens I would say this area is pretty good. You like shopping ? Only a few blocks away is Broadway. You'll find enough shops to satisfy your wants. You like even fancier boutique shops. Mercer, Greene and Wooster are just passed Broadway. The Williamsburgh Bridge isn't too far away and also the famous Brooklyn bridge. You'll no doubt want to walk across the latter. It'll be on your intinerary for sure. You can also take the subway from the hotel. Citi bikes have a row of bikes right in front of the hotel. This is a very cool way to explore the city since there are many bike stations that you can just pick up or drop off these units. There'll be an endless list of great and not so great restaurants nearby. As well as quaint cafes and pubs. Don't forget to visit Brooklyn. More walking around and enriching your visit of the Big Apple. Uptown areas such as Park ave, Madison, Central Park are also a must to go and see. Enjoy your stay in this city that never sleeps...

18/09/2016

Stayed here two nights while in town on business. Room was clean and spacious. Basic bathroom, adequate. Location in Chinatown near Little Italy -- verycosmopolitan clientele, largely foreign tourists. Lots of street noise in the evenings. Internet was unusable - couldn't log on most of the time, kept dropping signal. Breakfast was included but after one morning of bad coffee and generic food I sought out a local diner the second day. Ok overall -- not awful but nothing memorable.

Bery basic services. Super slow wifi. Ok location. No minibar fridge in the room, useless brewtek coffee maker, you get no complementary water ever. Go there if you're a great far east fan. Yellow faces everywhere and you get to see all kinds of wares and foods from China to Malaysia

"Enjoyed Best Western Bowery Hanbee"

10/09/2016

We very much enjoyed our week long stay at this hotel. The front desk guys were great, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with our questions. The hotel is very close to a few subway stations which makes it easy to get to wherever you need to go. Continental breakfast was a hit, lots of options for those wanting a hot breakfast (porridge, eggs, meat protein (ham/sausage) and toast. Cold options were cereal, fruit and yoghurt...something for everyone. Lovely deck/court yard to eat breakfast on in the mornings. Room was a great size for two people and very clean. The only thing I would recommend is a bar size fridge for the rooms. The smell not to far from the hotel was the hardest thing to deal with during the trip (not the hotel's fault at all), just when it is warm out, there are some fruit/veggie/fish stands that really get smelly. Couple that with the garbage smell and it was hard to handle. Would completely recommend this hotel, great stay.

"Good location, clean room, good choices for breakfast, friendly staff"

09/09/2016

This is a good place to stay if you plan to visit Manhattan, particularly around Little Italy and China Town because it is just 5-10 walk away. We booked 2-queen bed room and the price was very reasonable. Breakfast had plenty of choices (eggs, sausage, bagels, bread, cereals, milk, yogurt, fruits, juice, coffee) The bed is good, clean. The mattress is quite good (we did not experience any back pain). They change bed sheet/towel every day. There is also a safe in the cabinet . .which is good. Although the room is a bit small with also no walking / sitting room (you have to sit on the bed) but when consider that it is a place for a few days vacation there . . this place absolutely makes a lot of sense.

The hotel was clean & the breakfast was good. Easy to walk to different places or catch the subway which was just around the corner. We did feel that it was quite expensive which wasn't helped by the exchange rate. Overall we had a great time & the staff on reception were helpful & friendly.

"Average hotel good location"

Stayed there one night to be close to Little Italy. Great location for Little Italy, Chinatown and walking to 911 Memorial (20 min walk). Very average hotel, but clean and friendly service from the guys at the front desk. They will store luggage. Metro stop at end of the block. It is a long subway ride to Times Square and Uptown. They offer a modest breakfast and have vending machines. It's tough to upload from a taxi on the busy street but as long as the street is open (heavy traffic in that area) it will be fine.

Good location, clean and big room, and the staff are amazingly friendly and welcoming. The breakfast has a wide variety. I had a pleasant stay during my three nights in New York. I highly recommend this facility.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and can not believe how amazing and helpful the staff were. Not to mention how friendly they were. They also have free breakfast, their coffee machine is 24/7 and they have a exercise room! How cool is that. I 100% recommend Best Western if you are staying in NYC. ??????

I stayed at the Bowery during a trip to NY with my wife. From arrival to departure every member of staff we met was polite, friendly and helpful. Check in was swift, we took the opportunity to collect some leaflets on local attractions from the display. The room was a fair size for an inner city hotel Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room had an iron, full size ironing board and a safe. Breakfast was good with a large choice available. The weather was very warm, the outside dining was welcome. The hotel is two minutes walk from a subway station. Chinatown and Little Italy are on the doorstep, wr haf plenty of choice when eating out. We had an evening flight back home and were glad to be able to store our cases at the hotel after checkout. I would be happy to recomend the Bowery.

Although this hotel is old and a little dated the king room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Sean and Jeffrey at the front desk were extremely helpful with directions and navigating the subway system. This friendly duo and made our stay even better. It was a great location for walking to Little Italy, Soho and of course you are in the heart of Chinatown. Short walk to Canal st. for shopping and knockoffs. Easy to navigate the subway system and very economical. When we were not sure which train to get the locals were very helpful! Way cheaper than taking cabs. Short subway ride to almost anywhere. The breakfast in the morning was great. You could make a waffles, always had some type of eggs, sometimes sausage, cereal, yogurt, fruit, toast, bagels, muffins etc. New York in July was sweltering hot but loved our visit.

Don't be put of by the hotels location it is a great hotel with cosy bedrooms and even though the location is in Chinatown it is close by to little Italy and a good location for travelling. The breakfast is fine although it is served on paper plates. It is reasonably priced and is cosy.

08/08/2016

I booked this hotel because it was only a block and a half away from the place where my meeting was the next day. It turned out to be a fabulous location, and I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy it! To one side was Chinatown, to the other Little Italy. A subway station was just a couple of blocks away. The room was clean and a decent size for New York. My room faced the courtyard, so was a little quieter than if it had faced the street. Nice updated bathroom. I'd stay here again if I'm attending something else on the Lower East Side!

It's fun to be among the bustle of Chinatown and convenient close to the subway. Breakfast is plentiful and extended hours. Our room was what you would expect of NYC hotel space. However, the room placement was noisy, as it was across from housekeeping suite. Just ask for a different room and everything will be just what you need in the Big Apple!

The kind folks behind the desk were our HEROES after the Leon Hotel "had a glitch" and would not honor our reservation. Best Western found a room for us, comforted us with kind words, friendly smiles, and a great attitude. Also the room was surprisingly roomy and clean and we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast out on the patio. Cannot say enough nice things about our experience at this BW.

"Good location; fairly good price for NYC"

25/07/2016

We booked this hotel because it was located near some of the sites we planned to visit in NYC (Statue of Liberty, One World Trade Center, Chinatown and Soho). The room was clean, comfortable & surprisingly quiet despite being on 2nd floor facing the street. We left the car for two nights in a garage nearby on Chrystie St ($35/day) and traveled by subway and on foot. The free breakfast was fine; nothing fancy but ample and well-attended and supplied by the staff. There were enjoyable places to sit and eat inside or outdoors on a courtyard patio. The front desk staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in response to our questions about getting around the city. All in all we felt well served by this hotel.

"Clean, Comfortable, Close Proximity to Subway"

23/07/2016

Overall, our experience was great. The hotel is only one block from subway, has many reasonable price restaurants in the surrounding, and very clean. The staff for check in was good, especially the manager. However, the staff attitude when we were checking out was terrible.

"Another Bargain in NYC"

21/07/2016

I once again had to be back in my old hometown for some business and though I usually stay at The Franklin on the Upper Eastside I needed to be closer to downtown as I had early morning appointments. I Have used Best Western many times over the years so when I saw the Hanbee in the Bowery area I thought it would at least be acceptable. Well was I ever pleasantly surprised, it was absolutely excellent, every single staff member went out of his or her way to help in the most pleasant way possible. Not only that the location was perfect and much better than expected when I first saw the address. Grand Street is not as bad as being in the middle of Chinatown, which in the summer is unpleasantly crowded, hot and sometimes smelly. The Hotel is located closer to Little Italy. If you go in the warm weather walk to Caffee Roma and get a gelato which is better and cheaper than Ferraro's, then if you are hungry for good apizza go to Sal's on Mulberry and Broome. At Sal's he has a cross between a grandma and sicilian Apizza they keep it on the counter in a plexiglass protector. It is one of the better thicker crust pizza's in the city. I should know my family has been in the bread business for 200 years and the Apizza since 1919, so for a walk in place Sal's is good and Authentic. If you want to save money and still get a big taste for Our Beautiful city stay at the Best Western Hanbee Ciao

Just stayed 7 nights on first visit to NY, wasn't exactly sure where to stay. Easy access to Metro, buses and taxi. 2minute walk to Little Italy and a host of Italian restaurants. There are lots of options nearby other than Italian so walk for a few blocks and explore.

13/07/2016

If there was one reason for you to stay in this hotel I would answer great location! Literally outside the reception is a tube station which is very handy! This hotel is a gem hidden in a busy Chinatown! You get breakfast included and can make lovely waffles and take a coffee to go! Perfect in the freezing temperatures at Christmas. The rooms are small but modern but when you are out all day and night you only need the room for a place to sleep! If you spent more time in the room I would maybe recommend another hotel with larger spaced rooms.

We stayed here for one night before getting on an east coast tour. The location is excellent if you want to take one of the bus tours. Large spacious rooms and very clean. They serve a pretty decent hot breakfast too. Would highly recommend if you wish to explore New York.

"Great location, extremely clean!"

03/07/2016

24 hour front desk staff always gave a cheerful 'good morning!' and were very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and there was WiFi available in the rooms. The hotel was within a couple minutes walk of numerous subway stations and within walking distance to Little Italy, SoHo etc. The Chinatown area I thought was a little dumpy, especially at night. There was a smell of rotting produce and fish due to all the little grocers in the area - but this was the one and only negative (and it's not even to do with the hotel). Hotel room was spotless when we initially arrived and when we returned at the end of each day. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

"Chinatown gem"

29/06/2016

This was our first time staying in the lower Manhattan (usually stay in upper west side) great location with lots to see and do close by. Walking distance to Little Italy and subway station close also. Shout out to Sean at the front desk, very professional and friendly. Big rooms for New York City, and decent free breakfast.

"Decent Tourist Hotel in New York"

28/06/2016

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. This is a decent budget hotel located close to both Chinatown and Little Italy. Our room (standard king) was a good size, comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. A limited breakfast is available and the breakfast area is small and cramped - although breakfast was included we ate out a couple of mornings. However, the hotel is well located for exploring Manhattan and a subway is located close by.

"Very good value for money"

25/06/2016

This hotel is well located and very good value for money. It has nothing special but the room comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was average but this place is definitly a good deal in New York.

"Big rooms, great location and good value for NYC"

25/06/2016

Big rooms, great location and good value for NYC. In the hustle and bustle of chinatown - central enough for anywhere in NYC. The rooms are surprisingly big. The staff a great and rooms are clean. Would definitely recommend.

"Location, location, location"

24/06/2016

This hotel is a good bargain given that NYC is very expensive. There is nothing fancy here, and in fact parts of the hotel are a bit dreary. The free breakfast is very “middle American” with lots of carbs, no veggies, but adequate to get a nibble. The internet is slow, so don't expect anything other than email (Speed averages about 1 mbps). My room was tiny but clean, and DID NOT smell like smoke or look shabby. Staff was friendly. Very close to Chinatown, Little Italy, Nolita, Lower East Side. Very easy walk to Brooklyn Bridge and NYU.

"Great price & location "

23/06/2016

My friend was flying in from the west coast, I am a life long Jersey resident so I am familiar with the city. I chose this hotel because China Town is very close to the places I frequent (LES, NOHO, SOHO, West Village, Chelsea, etc) It was difficult to find a hotel down in this part of Manhattan that had double beds. Best Western had them! Location is safe, convenient- 15 minute walk to subway, Canal St etc. it's a block from Little Italy also. This is a location for the people who don't want to stay in tourist area. Rooms were clean- beds were comfy & the continental breakfast will save you at least $15 each. Most of the other guests at the hotel were from Europe or the UK. I only saw one family from the States. (You can tell because they all had neon green matching shirts, were loud and had a Texan accent) This is not a luxury hotel, but a place to sleep after a long day of exploring the city. The elevators do not operate without a room key- so it's piece of mind that no one from off the streets can just get in. Staff was super accommodating and helpful. Showers had some mildew and the Univent wasn't that cold- comfortable but you can not create an ice den like I like to do! Hope this helps! Also- continental breakfast had a "make your own waffle".

"Great location, good hotel"

21/06/2016

Starting with the best part, the location of this place is absolutely perfect if you enjoy a bit of shopping and some bar hopping in between hip restaurants. Or the buzz of Chinatown. I absolutely love LES, and for me, this place had the best possible location (especially when you mostly have evenings for your own use). Other than that, this is a fairly standard, comfortable hotel that drew no complaints. The bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly. I heard the breakfast is nothing to brag about, and the air conditioning was a bit loud (I'm a sensitive sleeper and always travel with ear plugs so it didn't matter much) but then it often is. I'll probably end up going again as I visit New York City every now and then.

"Basic, Comfy & Clean"

19/06/2016

Hotel is ideally located in Chinatown and very close to Little Italy, and several metro stations. Warm welcome from Reception on arrival - we stayed here for four nights last week. The hotel room is a good size, with a large shower, decent coffee machine and in room safe. Free wifi with strong signal. Comfy bed - just what you need after walking around NY all day. Slept really well. The room was serviced on a daily basis. Air conditioning was fantastic. Good breakfast selection (and coffee machine is available all day) including make your own waffles, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit and bacon/sausage meat and eggs. You can either eat in the breakfast room or outside on the lovely patio in the fresh air. All the staff we came into contact with were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is great for people who need a bed to sleep in and a decent breakfast to start their day. Its extremely clean and well kept. If you are expecting luxury, this is not the hotel to be at. If you want clean, comfortable, welcoming and helpful staff - then this is where you should stay. Thank you to all the staff at this hotel for looking after us. We enjoyed our stay with you immensely.

"Great service, facilities and location"

16/06/2016

Very pleasantly surprised at the helpfulness of all the staff I encountered during my week's vacation. Conveniently located just a block away from a subway station (about 3 minutes walk), good sized room and bathroom, complementary breakfast with a reasonable selection of hot and cold food. Would place it at the top of the list of places to stay if I ever return to NYC

"Sorprendente !"

5
13/06/2016

Great hotel, great price, great location (close to 4 metro lines, one square away from Little Italy) You won't find a lobby when you first step in the hotel, you'll have to go to the second floor, that's where it's located. It's quite surprising, but OK. This is just what you want when you book an hotel in New York : a clean, friendly place to sleep and have breakfast (included, that was great). Don't forget the minicards in the lobby so you can enjoy a free chocolate bar or some discounts. Very friendly staff. Try to have breakfast before 8 AM as it becomes very crowded later, although there are more tables available outside if the weather is good. I traveled with my husband and my toddler, and we would stay there again for sure.

"Clean, Free Breakfast & Easy Access to Midtown via 6th Ave Express"

5
10/06/2016

For $100 less than Midtown hotels with tiny rooms, the Bowery Hanbee Hotel in Chinatown provides free breakfast, good sized rooms and a great subway connection to Bryant Park, near Times Square. Manager Sayed Khan and his staff provide polite, efficient service in this clean, well run hotel. Near Little Italy & East Village clubs, this place is a hidden gem. Current street repairs (6-2016) are noisy at night, but I was able to sleep with the white noise of the A/C blowing.

"Good value in a pricey city"

4
08/06/2016

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. It's functional rather than fancy, but that's what we were expecting from a Best Western. We'd gone for a King Suite and I was pleased with that decision - the room was enormous, which is very unusual for NY, and it was nice to have so much space. The bathroom was also bright and spacious and the shower was excellent. I don't know what the normal rooms are like but the King Suite is definitely recommended for longer stays, it's a bit more of a home from home. We had a fridge and coffee/tea maker in the room with filter coffee sachets restocked every day, plus a decent selection of toiletries. The hotel provides a complimentary breakfast until 10am, again unusual for NY. It's not amazing (and the dining area is a bit cramped) but it's more than adequate, with bagels, waffles, eggs, fresh fruit and yogurt. It's good to fuel up for the day in a city where brunching can be quite expensive for what you get. My only criticism of the room would be that the air con, although efficient, was very noisy, because it kept switching itself off and then back on again a few minutes later, waking me up each time. In the end we couldn't have it switched on at night (but luckily the room wasn't too hot, even though it was hot outside). The hotel staff were great - really friendly and helpful, from the room maids to the front desk staff to the maintenance guy who fixed our safe when we locked ourselves out of it! The hotel is situated in Chinatown, which is bustling and noisy, but the double glazing kept the noise out very effectively. It's a good location, a short walk from two subway stations on different lines, and within walking distance of the bars and restaurants of Lower East Side and East Village. I note other travellers have complained about the quality of the wifi - we didn't have any problems with it ourselves. Would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it as long as you're not expecting swish & glamour.

Nothing glamorous Did everything it was suppose to do for that price. Wifi is terrible really bad. Disconnected after 3 minutes Gym is very tiny Staff is friendly Neighborhood is in Chinatown with a lot of Asian restaurants. Down two blocks little Italy and Nolita

29/05/2016

I wasn't expecting much of this hotel to begin with. The rooms were clean and so were the bathrooms. The breakfast was not the best but you could manage with it. The hotel is not far from little Italy, shops and china town. the wifi is free and the staff was really friendly and helpful.

"Every time I visit New York"

5
26/05/2016

Every time I visit New York, I stay at the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel. Sure, I think I'd like to stay somewhere else, just to see. But the value can't be beat. You get a clean hotel room in one of the safest neighborhoods in New York City. You have easy access to public transportation (just a block from the D train). I swear, several years ago, on a Christmas morning, I jumped on the subway and got to Rockefeller Center in eleven minutes ... from my hotel room (only to discover that Sasha Cohen, shown skating on "The Today Show" was actually on tape). The food in the neighborhood, can't be beat. And mind you, when I say "neighborhood" you're really in several very different neighborhoods. Chinatown, Little Italy (more a commercial district than an actual neighborhood), Soho/Tribeca. So you've got your choice of great, inexpensive restaurants (and a Whole Foods just five blocks away). Lastly, it has about the friendliest, most helpful staff of anyplace you'll find. The front desk is really front desk/concierge ... always willing to give recommendations ... give directions. In sum, the Bowery Hanbee is the best hotel deal in NYC.

19/05/2016

The rooms are basic but have everything that you would need . Hotel is in good location near subway and close to loads of restaurants Chinese and Italian. If you want some respite from mayhem of Times Square and 5th Avenue this location is ideal. The breakfast is adequate though seating basic. Coffee is not good. Wifi is very slow but free. I would stay here again as I liked location and rooms were clean, shower had enough power and staff were helpful

This hotel is in the center of Chinatown, but close to everything. The subway is a block away! Take cash for Chinese fruits, vegetables, and mmm Chinese food. The hotel full breakfast has everything, bagels, waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, and pastries! They even have a big pot of hot oatmeal with raisins, nuts, and brown sugar. Rooms are Roomy! Newly renovated! Safe for kids. A Great Value!

spent ten nights at The Bowery and found the room and service to be great. We had a king suite which is large for New York. A continental breakfast is provided and all the staff were very helpful. We have stayed at the hotel for the past week, had a suite, room was really nice, great location for shops, station 3 mins walk, 3 stops into New York City Macy's / Time Square, can be noise so best bring ear plugs.. But would stay again. You walkout side hotel and you are in china town, walk all few yards up the road and your in little Italy.. The shops at the top of the road are really good, you can get some good bargains, better then in town, so worth a look..

"Badly designed rooms, poor service, low water pressure and poor cleaning"

1
28/04/2016

The biggest problem with the hotel room is that because the bathroom occupies most of the window space, there is a glass panel into the bedroom to let light in to the room but no blind or shade on the window in the bathroom. As soon as the sun rises the room becomes light with no way of blocking it out. It made it very difficult to sleep beyond 6am. It also made the room quite dingy during the day. The problem with the service was that when I spoke to the desk staff after the first night to see if anything could be done about the light, they said the rooms were all the same but that they'd send someone up to rig something up to keep the light out. This never happened. They clearly couldn't be bothered to take my comments seriously. Ironically there's a sign on the desk inviting customers to let them know if there's anything they can do to make their stay more comfortable: what is the point if you don't then do anything about it? Finally, the cleaning in the bathroom was poor. When we went in there were quite a lot of the previous occupant's hairs in the shower which I didn't notice until I'd got into the shower myself. These were removed later but when I noticed a penny had been dropped by the side of the toilet I decided to leave it to see what happened. The answer was nothing at all. The penny remained there for the 5 days I stayed at this hotel so it was clear that the cleaning was unsatisfactory. Finally, the water pressure was always low, meaning the shower was poor, but on one occasion (I assume a peak period) there was nothing more than a meagre dribble of water. The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is that the location is interesting but there must be better places to stay in that area than this!

25/04/2016

It is a nice hotel just not in the best area. The smell from all the shops outside is terrible but once inside, it's fine. You need a key to get into the building so you feel safe but the lobby is on the second floor. The rooms were nice but there was no lock on our bathroom door. The breakfast was the typical complimentary hotel breakfast. Overall, for the price it is worth it.

"First visit to New York"

22/04/2016

The hotel is situated on the edge of Chinatown and Little Italy and both my wife and I thought it was a great location. It enabled us to get a sense of the real New York but was still only a 5-10 minute subway ride from the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan. The location meant that great food at reasonable prices was available literally minutes out of the hotel doors. The hotel was clean, the bed was very comfortable and the staff couldn't do enough for us. They recommended and booked an amazing restaurant for our anniversary, helped with booking cars, directions and advice on where to eat locally. We would definitely stay here again. If you're interested in local colour and seeing something more than Times Square and Midtown Manhattan, I would heartily recommend this hotel.

"Great stay!"

We had a great 2-night stay at the Hanbee. We were a bit concerned about the location based on other reviews, but found that we had no problem walking any time of the day or evening. In fact, in view of its location in Chinatown, everything moves blessedly slower than other areas of Manhattan. And we found that most welcoming. Yes, there was construction going on in the street during the night but yes, this is NYC. The rooms are so efficiently designed that the smallness is not an issue - no carpets, which we were delighted to see - and even radiant flooring in the bathroom. And the staff are all wonderful - friendly, helpful, efficient.

If you want a hotel among locals rather than tourists like we did then this is for you. On the edge of China Town and Little Italy the Best Western feels more like a family hotel than a corporate. ..all the staff are amazing and can't do enough for you...all special ial shout out to Jeff the head concierge who will sort anything and everything for you. The nearest subway into midtown is a 1 min walk away. The beds are super comfy and the rooms and bathrooms immaculate with daily cleaning service. Every day you'll be immersed in local life walking past fish mongers, Chinese pharmacies, great ice cream and cannoli bars but at night you'll get a great nights sleep as everything quietens down. Breakfast is included and you get a great choice of muffins croissants bagels toast egg sausage and can make your own waffles. It's not big or fancy but there is more than enough choice. A few subway stops from midtown and all the main attractions you really won't find a better base for your stay.

This Best Western Hotel is located on the border of China Town and Little Italy. Multiple bus lines and subway stations are within walking distance. A great location for those who wish to explore and experience the city.

"Best Bargain in New York"

09/04/2016

Every time I visit New York, I make sure to stay at the Bowery Hanbee. It's the best bargain in the City, which has very few. People may be intimidated staying in an ethnic neighborhood. But would it be different if one were staying in Paris, let's say? One thing you can say about staying in New York's Chinatown, there's always good food. Might as well throw in no crime. You also have easy access to public transportation. One can, for instance, go from room to Rockefeller Center in 11 minutes. Yes. I timed it.

ON Road Trip from East to West Coast, Best Western made it wonderful stay for us very professional ,clean and great location . The Subway are fairly close. Best Value in the hotel is the breakfast which is included in your stay. The front desk agent , Jeffery was so polite was able to get us in the room that we were looking for. Absolutely in love with the wood floor instead of the carpet. Super nice staff .Will be staying at this hotel again on our way back!!

I searched thoroughly for a hotel in NYC, which is an exhausting process considering all the hotels and locations. There's so much to consider! After weighing the endless options, we decided on this hotel in Chinatown and were so glad we did. First of all, the location is right in the heart of Chinatown and very close, within a short walk to Little Italy. It's all right there! The hotel is right next to Chase bank. The subway options are also fairly close. The best value in the hotel is the breakfast which is included in your stay. They have eggs, a meat choice each morning (bacon, ham or sausage), make-your-own waffles, 3 cereal choices, hot oatmeal, assorted pastries, bread, muffins, bagels with a big industrial toaster, butter, peanut butter, jam, boiled eggs, yogurt, hot coffee, tea, milk, OJ, apples, bananas, oranges. They're super nice and quick to help if you need anything replenished. Not a huge amount of seating, but even on busy days we didn't have a problem. There is nice outdoor seating if weather permits for you. When you arrive you will have to go up the elevator to the front desk to check in. We got extremely lucky as we arrived very early in the morning after a red eye. The front desk person, Jeffrey was SO kind and was able to get us into a room early. We knew this was only a possibility so we were soooo grateful. This allowed a nap before hitting the city. Housekeeping came daily and did a great job. They always had a smile and a hello. The rooms are spacious for NYC standards. We had 2 queens for adults and a child. There's a desk, standing closet, safe, ironing board & iron, bathroom w/ tub which is nice and clean, hairdryer, water was hot and plentiful. Also a chair and lamp by the window, updated TV, air conditioning which stopped working, but we asked for help and someone came to fix it immediately. It worked great after. There's some street noise, but that's to be expected and actually at night it was pretty quiet. The beds were comfortable and there's plenty of good pillows provided. Loved that the floors are wood, not carpet. Free wi-fi, but that's my only thing I'd say wasn't great. If you're a business person this could be a factor for you, but we just dealt with it. I can't imagine being able to do better for the value. Super nice staff, clean, comfortable, good safe location, free hot breakfast. We ate at Shanghai Cafe in Chinatown which was super affordable and yummy! Also Amici II in Little Italy was tasty and authentic Italian old school fare. Shake shack was also a winner - we ate at one by the Museum of Natural History and there's one in Grand Central Station. They're around! Gelato within walking distance of the room, too! You'll love your cozy sleep spot and it's so nice to wake up and have breakfast & coffee before you start your busy NYC day which always includes a TON of walking. Great place to stay!

Great location close to subways, restaurants and bars - in Chinatown close to little Italy. Decent sized room which was clean and the hotel had good wifi. Staff were lovely and a great breakfast buffet of hot and cold food. I highly recommend this hotel!

We arrived at this hotel late one evening and the streets were dark and a little gritty, we were unsure about the location . But, we were pleasantly comfortable here. Upon arrival, were upgraded to a King Suite and enjoyed our roomy digs! This hotel is nestled I. The cross roads of Little Italy and Chinatown, and If you like to walk, this location is great. We walked everywhere. Also convenient to Metro lines!! The hotel itself is quite standard, rather than fancy, but everything was clean and functional!

21/03/2016

We just returned from a week in New York to share "The City" with some family members who have never visited before so we were looking for affordable lodging combined with a good location. I was very pleased with the Best Western Bowery location. The rooms were clean, the people were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was decent with the typical boiled eggs, cold/hot cereal, fruit and waffle machine and the location was great. This hotel is in the heart of China Town and Little Italy and about a three minute walk to the subway. If you are looking for a place to stay in Manhattan but do not want to pay Times Square prices I would recommend this hotel. We will definitely plan to stay here again in the future.

19/03/2016

The really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I especially liked the complimentary breakfast on the open deck, the spaciousness of the rooms, great location around the corner from little Italy, a short distance to three Manhattan bridges, in the heart of Chinatown and a few blocks from NYU. I definitely recommend this hotel; prices are reasonable and staff is exceptionally friendly! Thank you for making our stay a memorable one!

"Perfect Location"

18/03/2016

If luxurious and palatial and expensive is what you are looking for, this is not the place for you. Located on the block between Little Itay's Mulberry Street and China town, this lower East Side hotel is perfectly situated for a weekend of fun. It is advertised as a boutique hotel or European style hotel which means small rooms. True, but they are comfortable, clean and well appointed with a desk and chair, another comfortable chair, an iron and board, safe, a coffee machine and, of course, a comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. The front desk staff and housekeeping staff are delightful and helpful. The breakfast is a good start for the day, but there are also coffee shops and bakeries all around. But it is the location that really makes this hotel outstanding. One block from the subway, it is also close to restaurants in both Little Italy and Chinatown. The area is teaming with outdoor fruit, fish, and gelato vendors. In addition the lower east side is great area for music and nightlife. When we return to NYC, we will most definitely stay here again.

16/03/2016

Stayed here from the 11th to 15th March in 2 rooms, set in a fantastic location in Chinatown and just around the corner from Little Italy it is within easy reach of all main lines which makes getting around really easy. Clean, modern rooms with great tv, air con and a nice bathroom, an accessible ice machine and no messing about breakfast made it perfect for our trip. Special thanks to Jeffrey on reception who managed to check us in early, and made us comfortable and gave great advice, from a Hotel background myself he is a credit to this Hotel and is an example of what all hotel staff should be like, thank you.

16/03/2016

Our stay was pretty good. we stayed for a week and had no problems. The breakfast service was pretty good as well, we ate there very morning. The hotel was in China Town and Little Italy which was easy walking distance to lots of tourist places and close to subways.

"Why not stay downtown?"

4
23/02/2016

Why not stay in this hotel? Set on Grand Street in the heart of Chinatown and Little Italy, a mix of both cultures. Nearby to tons of cafes, restaurants and shops( normal stores but also high end clothing retailers). A safe neighborhood, saw no trouble at all. Hotel is fine. Decent sized rooms with a big bed, lovely modern bathroom,tv,safe, plenty of storage and space. Breakfast is continental style but there are lots of places nearby. The entrance has key card control out of normal hours which makes you feel safe. Subway station a couple of minutes walk but even walking anywhere is not a chore. A great place to stay especially for exploring downtown NYC and not far at all from the Williamsburg,Manhattan or Brooklyn bridges.

17/02/2016

I can recommend this hotel for a great, budget, stay in New York city. Situated near both the Bowery and Grand Street subway stations, this hotel is in the lively area of Chinatown. The hotel has good size rooms which are clean and comfortable. The communal areas are tidy and well lit and a good breakfast is provided, free, on an all you can eat basis. The staff are friendly and helpful and the whole place feels very secure, you need to use your room key to access the bedroom floors. A bonus are the free to use computers in the reception area where you can print off boarding passes etc. The free wi-fi is a bit hit and miss but with all the other good points this hotel has it really would be pointless to complain about that. I would definitely stay again when I am in NYC.

If you are looking for a good hotel in the not usual tourist areas, but still well-located you should consider this one. It is in the Chinatown/Little Italy in walking distance to Lower Manhattan (if you like to walk) but also with public transport near by. The rooms aren't huge but are big enough. We were in 810, there is no heat source in the bathroom so keep the door open when not using so the more-than-ample heat from the room can flow in. Breakfast area is a little small so don't go late. Staff is friendly and polite. This was my second stay at this hotel. I would go back and would recommend.

We stayed here for 5 nights. The hotel has laminate floors that look like wood. I wish all hotels in the USA got rid of their carpets like they have in Europe. I was very glad to see this hotel has done that. The room was very clean. They had a free breakfast that filled us up before we left for the day. They had security so that people on the street couldn't get up to the floors unless they had room keys or were taken up by guests of the hotel. I liked that. I thought the bed was comfortable. We were near a couple subway lines. The people working the desk were always friendly and helpful. This is a good place to stay and was reasonably priced for NYC. I thought the 5 nights we were here that the hotel was very quiet. The only place I really ran into other guest was in the breakfast area. That room was small and crowded but you could take your food back to your room or, in nice weather, eat outside on their second floor outdoor area. We would definitely stay here again.

Nice room, clean and comfortable. Although entrance is at 1st floor, lobby is at 2nd. I will recommend hotel should have a security guard/personnel at the entrance. We had a scary moment when we arrived late at night and a couple of strangers waited for us at the entrance and ride with us, without any key (so we thought they didnt had one), to our floor before they realized they were in the wrong place. Location is close to metro but the area is not for hanging out at night.

"Great Location "

4
01/01/2016

Stayed here with my boyfriend for 5 nights. It was our first time in NYC and location was really important to us as well as affordability. This hotel had both. China Town was super interesting and little Italy is within a few steps. During our stay way back September 2014 they had the Italian festival on which had amazing food booths and the streets were full. The subway was steps away from the front door of this hotel which made getting around the city extremely easy. We also had a hop on/hop off bus pass and one of the pick up spots was within walking distance as well. The continental breakfast was good especially if you wanted to fill up on something quick before heading out to see the city. I do remember construction outside the hotel which was no problem as the noise level was not noticed. The room was on the smaller side but we were only ever in the room to get ready, shower and sleep. The hotel was clean and front desk staff were helpful with directions or information if needed. We really felt we lucked out with this hotel, it was perfecr for what we needed. Especially since all hotels are extremely pricey in NYC we found this one for a great price and having the subway so close was awesome. I never felt uncomfortable walking around this area. If we ever make it back to NYC I'm sure we would stay again.

Very pleased with our choice - great budget hotel with qq bedding which is hard to find in NYC at a reasonable price. Many subway lines a close walk away; great restaurants within blocks. Front desk staff was delightful; we also took airport car service transfer but had no issue as previous reviewer did. Only issue was noise from other guests - pretty thin walls - but much of that unwanted noise is just cultural differences, so nothing can be done about that really.

Reliable Best Western quality- cosy, practical, all needs met, great location, quiet, efficient. Only problem was noisy heat/AC, with clanging that sometimes prevented a great night's sleep. Bed was comfy, bathroom design very mod, great room service and front desk staff, nice roof deck off dining area.

"First-rate"

23/12/2015

I will start by saying I only have one complaint/criticism, and that is about the transportation the hotel arranged to take me to the airport. They have a poster at the desk advertising it is $49. to LaGuardia. As a taxi is about that much I arranged for it to pick me up. I was asked to pay the desk clerk $12 in advance, and he gave me a receipt showing I owed $37 to the driver. When I got in the car the driver, an elderly Chinese man who was very hard to understand, wanted to know "Cash or Credit?" He then informed me if I paid by credit card it would add 20% to the bill. I protested, and he said "10%." Then said "20%" Then when I said "WHAT?" said "10%". He then said he was owed $39. I showed him my receipt that said $37.but he kept yelling "No! $39!!" and showing me a tablet that had that written on it. I gave up. Once we got to the airport I handed him a $50 bill. He shook his head. I said, "you mean I have to give you exact change?" He nodded and said something unintelligible. I gave him 2 Twenties and for the first time in my life I did not tip the driver, and took my $1 change. I intend to let the hotel know about this, in case they aren't aware. Now for the rest, which is all good. I am including photos of the bathroom toiletry shelf because some reviewers had complained there was no place to put toiletries. It's true there is not a shelf at the sink, but there is ample room on the shelf to the left of the toilet, totally convenient. The room was plenty large for one person, and would be adequate for two without being uncomfortably close. When I saw photos on this site I thought the room looked drab and dull, all gray and monochrome, with B/W photos for decoration. But after the hubbub and stimulation of Manhattan, it is soothing and relaxing to return to this room. The materials are very good--bamboo floors, interesting textured walls. Everything in first class shape (except the wardrobe was pretty worn looking). TV and WiFi worked great. Sufficient electric outlets to charge your stuff. Lots of good lighting choices. The bed wasn't as firm as I'm used to but wasn't over-soft, more American than European. There was a heavy blanket in the wardrobe to add to the one on the bed, which I did. The thermostat worked perfectly on the H/AC unit, so I was always comfortable. Shower was very spacious, always plenty of hot water and good pressure. Everything very clean and orderly. Safe in the wardrobe that worked fine. Informative ring binder of information on the desk. Phone worked fine, and I could get good reception on my own phone too. I had asked for a quiet room, and got one. It was on the 6th floor, on the back of the hotel, away from the street, toward the elevator end, which meant also away from the windows on the other street. I never heard the elevators, which were quiet, smooth, and efficient. You do have to use your room card to operate them except for going to the lobby, but that is a good security measure. The desk clerks were super-nice and helpful. The breakfast was very good: All you can eat of fresh fruit, oatmeal packets, yogurt, dry cereal, waffles, muffins, toast, English muffins, bagels, hot eggs and bacon, ham, or sausage. Plus all the usual beverage choices. There was always seating in the dining area, where there was a TV turned down very low. There was a roof garden seating area, but it was closed for December. Staff members were bustling about keeping everything well-stocked. There were racks of discount cards for attractions, + a guidebook of what's going on which was helpful. There were no newspapers, which was a drawback, because the only papers for sale on the street were in Chinese. They will book you on a variety of tours, but I didn't do that, although I might on a future visit. I have been to NYC a number of times and had seen most of the sites. The Grand Street subway stop for the B/D line is two minutes' walk away and will take you all kinds of places. Once I got to the hotel I never had to take a taxi. The only time I was disturbed by noise was when a couple checked into the room next to mine about midnight and spent the next few hours slamming their drawers and doors and thudding up and down the hall. I was awake until 5 because of that. I mentioned it to the desk clerk in the morning who said if I'd called him he would have come and asked them to be quiet. The hallway doors are very noisy opening and closing, but they are quiet if you take the trouble to hold the lever down until the door is shut, then slowly release it upward. The neighborhood is interesting, almost everyone on the street is Chinese. I was disappointed that Little Italy has essentially been replaced by Chinatown. I recommend eating at Ferraro's brunch, and DaGennaro for dinner. Margharita's had a wonderful live 3 piece band Monday night. The Tenement Museum is worth a visit and is in walking distance. The Most Precious Blood R.C. Church has a fabulous nativity sculpture from Naples, and is in walking distance also. All in all, this hotel made my stay a very pleasurable one. It was the nicest hotel experience I've had in NYC, just as nice as the Waldorf Astoria, and it didn't have a free hot breakfast.

"Great value, location, and rooms"

The Best Western Bowery is in center of Chinatown and a quick walk to the best places in Soho, LES, etc. The rooms were very large, especially for New York. There was no noise from the street, just from other guests in the morning. If you are sensitive to light, then bring an eye mask b/c the frosted glass window to the bathroom leaves light in from the bathroom window. Other reviews complained about the smell in the neighborhood, but that's Chinatown. It does not seep into the rooms! I didn't make it to breakfast. That's pretty impressive to get a free one in NYC though. Subway is a 3 min walk.

Pros: budget hotel with free breakfast. Room is adequate. Location is good in that you are close to Little Italy, SOHO, Broadway and a number of great stores. Cons: The location of the hotel and the street it's on is in Chinatown. It's just too dirty, too smelly. It's pretty gross. But a few blocks away things are dramatically better so it's tolerable. Our room smelled awful and we thought of asking to switch rooms but didn't at last minute because we were so tired. If I found another hotel even if I had to pay $50 more, I'd probably not stay here again. But if not then I would stay here.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for taking the time out to provide us with your valuable feedback. I am sorry to hear that your stay did not exceed your expectations and we did not get an opportunity to resolve your room concerns. Chinatown is a vibrant location full of hustle and bustle and plays a huge role in the NYC experience but understandably it is not for everyone and I hope your future visit to NYC will be more gratifying. All the best.

This is a bit of an odd character. It doesn't look much to the world but is superbly situated close to two different subway lines, close to shopping and right in-between east and west side partying. Nice clean rooms with hardwood floors. Internet is included in the price as is a better than average breakfast considering it is Manhattan. Have stayed more than 30 nights at this hotel over the past 5 years.

Dear Loyal Guest, Firstly, thank you very much for your loyalty over the years and for participating in providing such valuable feedback on your overall experience. "A Wonderful Weekend"

Staying here was very nice. The room was great, plenty big enough, having been upgraded to a suite at no extra charge, the front desk was very helpful answering all our questions and we had plenty not being from the city. The breakfast was OK but having a bakery across the street it was all we needed. We had a great weekend being here for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and this hotel certainly added to it.

Great hotel! The service and staff were super helpful and always nice. The location is great, too. Great choice if you are going to the Bowery Ballroom, Kings Avenue, Invisible Ink or the like. Rooms were generously sized, clean and updated. The free breakfast and Wi-Fi were added perks. The biggest drawback is they don't have a gym or any really functional exercise room. It's a small (very small) room with three pieces of cardio equipment (two of which didn't work). All in all, a great value! As long as you don't want to workout (or if you want to forego your workout), it's the place to stay!

"Affordable hotel in good location"

Stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip. I wanted to be close to Canal St / Downtown where my office is, as well as fairly close to downtown Brooklyn where I had an offsite and this hotel fit the bill. My room was quite small, but for NYC this is more or less typical for this level of hotel. There were some initial issues with my room - the bathroom window was open and the crank to close it was broken and the TV remote was missing. However, the stuff quickly sent someone to close the window and delivery me a remote. The bed was comfortable, the WiFi worked well, and the room was about as quiet as you're gonna get when you're facing a fairly busy street as my room was, and you can hear people/kids talking in the hall as they are coming back for the night, or leaving for the morning, but not much can be done about that. The breakfast was your standard continental breakfast, plus bacon. I only had some cereal and juice, though. It's very short walk to a lot of Asian restaurants as well as Little Italy. Cabs don't roam down here though as much as they do in Midtown, so you might want to use a car sharing service if you don't wanna deal with the subway. All in all, a pleasant stay.

We have traveled with some friends to NYC and decided to take a hotel with reasonable price on good location. Hotel Best Western met our expectations, very good location between Little Italy and China town . Many restaurants and bars nearby. Friendly staff, room service ok, breakfast choise to improve.

With steady improvement of the Bowery and Chinatown neighborhhod , a hotel in the vicinity needs to provide the basics and will surely have a promising futire in the near-term, which was certainly the case with the Best Western Bowery Hanbee Hotel in New York. Only caveat is recyling, as advised. Keep up the good work - dcdc

The front desk staff was excellent during my arrival as I was a tad too early for check in time, but found a way to allow my daughter and I to check inn at that time to avoid ant waste of time touring arguably the best city in the WORLD! The room was very clean and the housekeeping kept up a very good attention to detail during our stay. Internet Wi Fi was very speedy, breakfast was very good. I would stay there again if I ever visit New York again as it is conveniently located near the subway station to get to and from Times Square.

"Great stay!"

02/12/2015

I discovered when looking for a hotel in New York that most of the hotels there are absolutely overpriced! I find the this hotel online and it had a great price and the location is perfect. It is located in China Town, just a couple of steps from Little Italy and very near Soho! The staff is very friendly, rooms are big and spotlessly clean! It's great that they serve breakfast because the food in NY is very expensive! I would defenetly recommend this hotel to everyone!

"Great Central Location"

30/11/2015

I have to say that I was a bit concerned about this hotel at first; however, I was very pleasantly surprised. This hotel is very near Little Italy so there are great restaurants and night life. This hotel was convenient to get to subways and really in the middle between uptown and downtown so a great jumping off point for both popular touring areas. This hotel was reasonably priced and better than staying mid-town where hotels and food is much more expensive. The hotel is nothing spectacular but it was clean and the breakfast was good. The best part of this hotel was the front desk staff that were so helpful, especially Jeffrey!! Thank you.

"Don't ask for late checkout."

3
30/11/2015

Hotel is clean and rooms are decent, coffee is 24/7 and excellent. We ere told checkout was 11:30 a.m. And asked for a late 2:00 pm checkout. We were told it woukd be an extra nights charge. We had been there 5 nights and had paid over$1,000. Would have been an additional $200 plus charge for the couple of hours. We feel that other hotels at comparable pricing would be more agreeable. So we will not be staying at Best westerns again.

Surrounded by Chinese foods..heaven Rented 2 roooms for 3 nights. Nice refurbished room and clean. WW2 split type airconditioning ..a bit noisy than comfort..view of chinatown activities. Walking distance to italian, thai, and 100metre to underground rail system. Efficient staff with good advises for tourists..market price for transport and tour..nothing inflated after checked.. Asian travellers will find sanctuary here..

Husband and I have stayed at this property at least a dozen times in the last three years. Always pleasant, often given upgraded room as I am a Platinum BW program. Front Desk staff professionally friendly and helpful. Room clean, water hot, towels fluffy. Breakfast seems popular with many; not to my liking as it is mostly carbs. Chinatown/Little Italy neighborhood is interesting, safe, lively. Many Asian street vendors sell seasonal, interesting, fairly priced fruit and veg.

20/11/2015

We enjoyed the location very much. Super close to the tube station, walking distance to all the cool areas like TRIBECA, SOHO, NOHO, LITTLE ITALY, FINANCIAL DISTRICT etc..... The hotel in itself is very basic no mass no fass however it has everything you need. B. fast all self service but once again nothing is missing. Room was very clean and spacious. All the staff was very helpful and friendly from the housekeeper, always with a smile, to the guys in reception. I would like to mention SEAN and JEFFREY with whom we interacted more and helped us planning our week in NY. If we will ever go back to NY we will definitely consider going back to this Hotel.

"Decent Hotel for the Price in NYC"

15/11/2015

Stayed 3 nights for a pleasure trip to NYC. First time I stayed in Chinatown while visiting. If you have traveled to NYC, you know hotels can be costly and small. I was pleasantly surprised by the large size and the decent cost for this room. The hotel is technically in Chinatown but only blocks from the heart of Little Italy and from the Lower East Side. My only issue was that the noise of the hotel went right through the walls. There were constantly doors slamming and conversations in the hallway that made it difficult to sleep, especially in the early morning.

TravisEng, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Bowery Hanbee Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you so much for taking the time out to provide us with such valuable feedback. While we cannot completely eliminate the noise concern, we can definitely do our part and remind all employees to be mindful of this in the mornings. We continuously strive to meet/exceed all guests expectations each and every stay and we sincerely hope that we will be your choice of hotel again in the future. Take Care!

It was a clean hotel with great people at the front desk that helped us with getting to places. The room was small when comparing prices at the time this was the best choice. We were not disappointed. A nice place at the back to sit outside and have you breakfast made us a good start of the days we stayed there. Of course, the weather was beautiful at the time and that helps.... ;-)

We really liked the location of this hotel! You can take 15-30 walk to SOHO, Brooklyn Bridge & 9/11 Memorial or the subway station is close by. "Money stolen!"

09/10/2015

I had over $600 dollars stolen from my suitcase. The safe was broken and when they sent someone up to fix it he took the door off with a screw driver. I was reluctant to reuse the safe. The morning of my departure which was the day after the safe was broken, I found that my suitcase had been gone through and the $$ was missing! The manager blew me off by not calling back and when I called again he had lost my room number and phone number. He had no intention of calling me back. The should beware as they have a theif in their midst!

05/10/2015

We arrived at our hotel after a delayed flight at around 01:40 in the morning. Was greeted by Stanley on the reception. He checked us in quickly, told us all we needed to know in a speedy time. He was really nice, friendly and so helpful. After we went to our rooms we went back down the use the hotel computers. Stanley was so helpful and even rebooted the computer for us as it was running slow. He even helped us print off our tickets to see the New York Yankees that night. He also advised us all about the metro, gave us a metro map and a map on the city as well. This guy was fantastic and a delight. The rooms were very nice, clean tidy and of a very good standard. We was on the 7th floor. Had a tv and free Wi-Fi in the rooms too. If I was to find a fault I would say our view was of the back of the hotel out of the window, but that's about all. The free breakfast was very good too, tea, coffee, orange & apple juice to drink. Porridge and cereal too. You could toast your own bread or bagel. Make you own waffle too. And little cakes and omelettes too. The breakfast was outstanding, I have had worse at other hotels that cost more than this place. And on nice days you could eat your breakfast on the roof terrace, which was a very nice experience too. This was a fab place to stay and I would stay there again. All the reception staff were fantastic and so so helpful. Not once did I get that look, that I have heard that question 1000 times' kind of look. They were all very happy. I even had a late night chat with one of the managers. She was from London too and was so polite and helpful too. Overall this hotel was great and was also great value for money too. It was close to 2 metro stations and within 15 minutes you was in Time square. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this hotel and there staff. Top rate 5 stars from us.

We stayed here for five nights. Loved the neighborhood right on the border between Chinatown and Little Italy close to Bowery subway stop. Hotel was very clean and staff super friendly. Wifi was fast and free continental breakfast fine. Kids loved the wafflemaker. Will come back here any time!

"Great staff - great stay"

04/10/2015

September 2015 - girls getaway. The moment we stepped off the elevator we were greeted by Sean welcoming us to the hotel. He had us checked in in no time and answered all our questions. The room was perfect and the beds were really comfortable. The breakfast area is clean and the selections are constantly replenished. You can eat inside or out on the rooftop. We were surprized at how many guests would just get up from eating and leave their mess behind for the staff to clean up. Note: The breakfast is free but if you appreciate the way she keeps the area and food filled, give her a tip. The hotel has good room internet access and there's a computer and printer in the lobby for guest use. The hotel is in Chinatown on the edge of Little Italy. There is a subway stop a block away. A taxi to town runs between $15 & 20. The coffee is always on. Need a teabag? Just ask. Need directions, a cab, hop on/hop off bus tickets, tour info? They do it all. We would definitely return to this hotel and we can't say enough about the service we received from Sean, Jeffrey and Hugh.
