Description

Stay at the Best Western Hotel Hermitage and you will fall in love with our hotel, town and its valleys and be happy to come back again. Also walk 'under the tall trees' as Victor Hugo did in 1837. Located in the heart of the historic city of Montreuil (close to Le Touquet), the Best Western Hotel Hermitage built in a building created in 1850 by Napoleon III offers 57 quiet and spacious rooms, looking onto the historical Abbey or country side. Our beauty center will make you spend a pleasant moment of relaxation before having dinner at the restaurant 'ANECDOTE' where the chef will make you discover his creations made with fresh products and finish your evening in our very 'British' style bar. For your professional weekends or your study days, seminary rooms and lounges equipped with communication tools are at your disposal. We are within driving distance from the beach, scenic hiking, day-long canoe touring, canoeing, nine golf courses, and fishing. The valley is also well known for its heritage castles, manors, churches, watermills, houses and farms made of cob.

"Always a relaxing stay."
698Gart, 05 Février 2024

As always we were made to feel very welcome by friendly staff who will go our of their way to help. Rooms are comfortable and the breakfast good value for money. An added bonus for us is the hotel now has an electric charge point for electric vehicles. We have stayed here many times and will not hesitate to book again later this year.

"One of the best Bestwestern!"
Bryan S, 29 Janvier 2024

Hard to find fault with this excellent hotel: Although in the centre of town, parking is freely available; the entrance is through a lovely parterre garden; the reception was warm and well-informed. The rooms are a good size with wonderfully high windows and a very comfortable and large (180cm) bed and a sizeable and modern shower in a large bathroom. Although we had a front-facing room, we experienced no traffic noise. Everything was perfectly clean, and the breakfast was good. Really excellent value for money and we will definitely recommend and return.

"A grand and comfortable hotel"
Matt H, 23 Septembre 2023

The Hermitage is very comfortable hotel. It is right in the centre of the lovely walled town of Montreuil. The rooms are spacious and the public spaces grand. The bar is comfortable and the breakfast high quality. An excellent place to stay.

"A wonderful experience"
tvrbass53, 04 Juillet 2023

Fantastic staff, good value, plus secure parking for our specialist sports cars. The rooms have been seriously upgraded since we were there in 2018. Bathrooms quite excellent. This was a trip with friends to Le Mans Classic. Would like to return with my wife!

"Excellent Hotel"
LyngUkWilbur, 26 Juin 2023

The service provided and the standard of the hotel is very good. The breakfast was better than other hotels we have stayed at. The staff are all very efficient & very helpful. The close proximity to a number of restaurants and other locations makes this a great base for the area

"Wonderful Staff"
franklin74, 21 Juin 2023

What makes this hotel... the staff. They are extremely efficient from the ladies who clean the rooms, the breakfast lady, and those on the front desk . Special mention must be made of Ashraf, and of course Eric. I find them all helpful, courteous and don't seem to mind that I hardly speak any French. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, and the breakfast probably caters for most peoples requirements.

"Excellent location & good value"
Osman D, 01 Octobre 2022

The Hermitage is a large establishment, well situated in the centre of this venerable old town. We had a basic room at a very reasonable price (89 euros for a double), though parking and breakfast are extra. The bath is rather small and slippery, elderly guests might find it a bit difficult to use. There is a coffee machine in the room which should not be operated by the inexperienced. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were excellent. The room had a nice view, but we were woken at 6.30 by a very loud street sweeping truck which went round in circles a few times; perhaps the back of the hotel is quieter. And yes, there is a fine restaurant which opens at 7 pm. This seems to be true of all restaurants in the town - you cannot get a meal between 2 pm and 7 pm, which may suit French office hours but is inconvenient for travellers. The restaurant merits a separate review. Breakfast was very good apart from the coffee, which comes out of a machine.

"Poor, best western let down by to few staff, lack of information "
Anna240, 23 Septembre 2022

Arrived on Saturday lack of information about meals, beware no information on meals,we thought it had a regular room but it has been sold off, we where lucky to be squeezed into local place, lifts in hotel speak beautiful France breakfast no fresh coffee tea all make your own, we parked outside at least it was free no indication to use spa lack of interest by staff other than take money v sad Rouen is excellent this we will skip

"Visit ruined by all-night disco"
Steviebluelagoon, 15 Août 2022

First, the good: reception very efficient and courteous, and the hotel restaurant very good. The portion sizes - in particular, the foie gras and the cheese - were substantial and the flavours delicious. There is also spectacle available should you want that, with crepes being flamed at your table. There was plenty of on-street parking and Montreuil is a very safe little town. But the experience was totally ruined by the all-night disco. We should, perhaps, have smelt a rat when we were "upgraded" to a different room. It seemed very nice ... until 11pm, when the disco started. By 2pm we'd had enough, and went to reception. The receptionist apologised, and the volume was turned down a little, but the party - and the revelling - continued until 5am. Strangely, the noise was not audible as soon as we stepped out of our room into the hotel corridor. It appeared that the room we had been "upgraded" to was the closest to the party.

"Four old golfers from UK"
ymwarner, 11 Juin 2022

We have stayed here a few times before Covid and were looking forward to coming back. We were not disappointed, breakfast has improved with now hot scrambled egg and sausages and ability to boil your own eggs, fresh orange juice and great coffee. Rooms have had a makeover - very comfortable beds. Eric is still running the bar and both he and all the staff are delightful and so helpful. Montreuil has lost a couple of its top restaurants but we still eat incredible food in the town. We didn't eat at the attached restaurant to the hotel Advocat so cannot comment. A lovely experience - we will be back.

"Great hotel, exceptional friendly staff and super tasty breakfast"
luciaprivitera, 06 Avril 2022

We really enjoed our stay at this hotel for many reasons. We could enjoy a nice dinner at the restaurant ANECDODE, which has really tast dishes to offer and very friendly staff. In overall the staff, from houskeeping to reception was super friendly. The breakfast offers an ample choice of fresh food in a cosy and nice atmosphère.

"Consistently excellent"
ms2310, 01 Septembre 2021

Great location - a gem of a hotel in equal parts due to the town of Montreuil and the brilliant staff . A weekend break or a stopover on the way to or from the south of France is ideal . Value , cleanliness , location , staff etc etc

"Book the hermitage"
foxesinherts, 18 Août 2021

The rooms and bathrooms are large and well appointed Clean to a fault Very comfortable beds And very large New seating area at front is a welcome addition But The best thing about this hotel Are the staff All tres sympatique Lovely warm and friendly Eric the bar manager makes every stay like coming home As does the lovely guys on reception Can't speak highly about their professional ism And warmth 100% recommendations

"A great place in a great town"
d_jones25, 25 Juillet 2021

This is our second visit & we loved it the same as last time. The hotel is well placed centrally & has all you need. On site secure parking, decent breakfast, nice rooms, a warm welcome & a bar. The town is typically French with lots of history & charm (lots of good restaurants) yet it's close to good golf. Walking round the walls is a great treat.

"A pleasure "
foxesinherts, 16 Août 2020

It felt so good being back in France Even better to be welcomed with warmth and affection by the superb staff at this comfortable hotel Have to say that Eric the barman is a legend! Rooms very comfortable and bar excellent Thanks

"This property needs a complete overhaul"
Trueparisian, 25 Juillet 2020

Spent a night there in June 2020. Booked an executive room. Had the impression that I was staying in an office building converted into a hotel with oversized chairs that took up most of the room and very basic amenities. The front desk staff was barely welcoming. The breakfast was good. Apart from the location, this hotel has not much for itself in my view. Will not stay here next time.

"Best best western"
alan w, 22 Juillet 2020

We have been coming to hotel hermitage for years and we can say it's just great nice big rooms always get a warm welcome from Asher and Eric can't do enough to help you the breakfast is very good a lot of selection add very clean and tidy thy keep it spotless also the bar area is very cosy well done hope to see you all soon

"A real find"
Jud D, 20 Juillet 2020

Travelled with friends for a weekend break to Le Touquet - we found this hotel far better value and standard than more expensive options in Le Touquet. The rooms were large and clean - lovely big fluffy towels. Friendly bar staff and very welcoming - a real change from the diffident service at the Chateau de Montreuil. We will be back!

"FABULOUS"
Mary BC M, 24 Février 2020

We went on a flying visit to see a sick friend and booked this hotel on spec. What a wonderful surprise it was? The staff are amazing, warm, welcoming and so helpful. A cosy and very relaxed atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff. Would definitely go back and highly recommend.

"Tradition with a twist"
debbielG1911KP, 12 Février 2020

Beautiful building very imposing in the middle of the traditional town, right next to the historic church. Room was good, very large window overlooking the town, which I am sure in the summer is fantastic, but in the middle of storm Ciara not great and rattled well. We ate in the restaurant on our first night which has a Michelin star - Alexandre Gauthier, the chef behind La Grenouillère designed the menu. As with this style of establishment, the flavours of the food provided are amazing. However, the portions are a little on the "mean side", nice atmosphere and the staff were fabulous, very attentive without smothering us. All in all a lovely stay for weekend break. We drove up to Le Touquet for a trip around the shops, beautiful town unfortunately due to the weather conditions it was a little on the blowy side !!

"Overnight stay"
Horologist, 17 Janvier 2020

This hotel is in a good central location in a grand building. Reception was friendly and efficient. We paid extra (I think 10 euro) to park in the secure car park round the back of the hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were huge. Comfy bed. Breakfast was a good selection of bread, pastries, meats & cheese etc. The room cost was good value. I would definitely stay here again.

"Large bright comfortable rooms"
JPrenderg, 07 Janvier 2020

I have stayed here four times on drive from Herefordshire to SWFrance.Montreuil is an old garrison town, the hotel being the hospital, thus big windows and rooms. It is a very friendly, unpretentious place and the small town is worth a stroll. The hotel accepts pets. There is an excellent restaurant in the complex as well as other eateries in vicinity of hotel.Check local holidays when cafes etc may be closed.Parking in front of hotel is safe or there is more in hotel car park 10E which is not always enforced.

"Excellent venue, good rooms."
atterbury49, 03 Janvier 2020

Stayed over New Year 2019/20. Good sized rooms and helpful staff. Lovely cocktail bar and a good breakfast (only annoyance was the coffee machine that took way too long). We didn't eat at the restaurant but it looked good. Excellent position and during the day we walked around the walls. Impressive views and a lovely two mile walk.

"Excellent service. Above and beyond."
Jenny T, 28 Décembre 2019

We booked here last minute after being let down by another hotel in the region. From the moment we arrived the welcome was extremely warm. The staff exceptionally accommodating. We ate at two locally recommended restaurants and loved both. The rooms are very comfortable and the showers great.

"Perfect nights stay in Montrueil sur Mer"
Daydream07492238104, 22 Décembre 2019

The second time we have stayed at this hotel ahead of our long journey heading south through France. Fantastic staff, perfect location and above all a great night's sleep. Our only word of advice would be to avail yourselves of other places in town to eat as the 'on site' and I must stress independent restaurant is expensive and in my opinion not equal to the expense.

"Great Value"
Tim C, 17 Décembre 2019

The hotel is in a great location and the building itself is amazing. All the staff were very attentive, the breakfast was excellent and it was an enjoyable stay. Would defintitely stay here again. One thing that should be made clear is that the free parking is actually on the street and if no places are available parking on the hotel grounds costs 10 Euros per night.

"Great stay, good location and great staff"
james1234810, 02 Décembre 2019

Good location having driven up from Rouen. Recommend this hotel and in a good location with some fine restaurants. Onsite parking good as are the rooms and the breakfast- would recommend this hotel to my colleagues.

"An extraordinary welcome on arrival"
VeteranDen, 01 Décembre 2019

This hotel is perfectly placed in the centre of town, a short walk to a delightful town centre with many bars and restaurants to enjoy good food. The bar is an overwhelming welcome place to enjoy an Aperitif with good banter from the staff, seated in a warm comfortable bar. The rooms are spacious and clean

"Great value for money in a delightful town"
Frances P, 01 Novembre 2019

We chose this hotel mainly for its private car park, but were delighted with the friendliness of the staff, the location - which is close to the centre of town but away from the busy squares - and great service. Very good breakfast.

"Hotel needs modernisation "
LinnyA, 29 Octobre 2019

Montreuil is a beautiful town and the walk around the ramparts is awesome. The hotel could be amazing but is sadly in need of modernisation and updating. The reception staff were charming and helpful. Breakfast is poor and not worth the money. We booked a queen comfort room which was adequate but slightly grubby and cold. It's such a shame as the building is great but needs money spent on it. It could so easily become 4 star rather than the tenuous 3 star it currently is.

"Good location but work needed."
DavidA200, 27 Octobre 2019

We stayed her for 3 nights. We we were in room 205. This was a comfort room 205 looked out the front over the square and church. Room 205 was roomy with a large double bed plus en-suite. The room had a couple of chairs, wardrobe ,tv, kettle etc. The en-suite was enormous with bath with shower over, sink and toilet. The shower was good although we wondered why they didn't put a serrated shower in as there was ample room plus why the toilet was situated behind the door was a mystery. There were very falls windows but the opening skylights did not work so if you wanted fresh it was one of the large casements you had to open. These were not fitted with any device to hold them open which meant the wind blew them about. The room was comfortable but looked in need of a makeover. Thankfully it was a warm October as the heating, a radiator in the bedroom and another in the bedroom, was insufficient. They would have been better if they got hot more than 1/3 of the way up.. Downstairs we had breakfast in a room which had clearly had a make over and was smart and comfortable. The breakfast, 13€ per person, was generous and a large range for a continental breakfast. We had paid for parking which was 10€ a night. The car park is round the back but is not signposted. It has an electronic gate and is secure plus has charging for electric vehicles. On one evening we arrived to find this car park full so went to ask about the second car park we seen from the hotel. This was also secure and needed staff not only to give you access but also to open the gates to let out. The member of staff on duty was initially reluctant to let us use this second car park but did eventually agree! There is a bar which was closed on the first evening, because they dit not have a barman. This I found odd. The hotel is in a great position giving easy access to the town, ramparts and the surrounding area. It is sad the investment has not been made for it to achieve its potential.

"Loved our stay here."
SassyTraveller111, 12 Octobre 2019

We stayed over night at this lovely hotel. The room was modern, clean and had everything you would need. The man on reception was very helpful and very welcoming. Our room had a view to the front of the hotel garden looking towards the old town. The town gets very busy during the day so parking can be hard to find so we recommend parking in the hotel car park, much easier. We had dinner that night in the restaurant attached to the hotel and it was delicious. The town is beautiful and we loved walking around looking at the historic buildings and walking by the towns old ramparts. Wonderful stay at the hotel and loved the town.

"Overnight stay on way to tunnel but dreary interior , lovely town"
Ruth J, 25 Septembre 2019

The location of this hotel is excellent. Montreuil sur Mer is a beautiful town. I had booked a comfort room with queen bed for us. Firstly the receptionist did let us check in over 2 hrs early and the secure was park was great, sadly the hotel is terribly dated and drab inside. Our bathroom desperately needed an overhaul and the toilet was in a separate cupboard type room but with no sink! The furniture in our room was from the 80's, It really needs full redecoration throughout. Didn't have breakfast, €26 for two when there are lots of cafes outside is not worth it.Room cost was €146 €10 of which was parking. I suggest eating out. Piccolinos was great.

"What a disappointment"
350hkt, 24 Septembre 2019

We were travelling home after our holiday and thought we'd use the best Western expecting a lovely hotel. It was so "tired" , the bedroom which was not a basic room was awful - lots of plastic fittings , dreary decor and quite cool. We went down for a drink and found the G and T's really expensive and that the restaurant was closed ! Not at all what we expected and it was cold and raining outside . Not to be recommended However the breakfast was really good !

"Very comfortable hotel close to A16 but in the town centre"
10Orchard, 19 Septembre 2019

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times en route to or from the south of France. We have always chosen an executive room which is large, well appointed and the bed is just so comfortable. We also liked the quietness of these rooms at the back of the hotel after a long drive with an even longer drive to follow. But this time we were awoken by traffic along the cobbled lane below the window which started at 6am. I don't know if there is a new traffic circulation round the town but we may need to chose a different room next time. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel for the first time. The breakfast room is large, light and bright. I loved it! All the usual treats that you might expect at a well stocked continental breakfast buffet in a first class French hotel. Unlike some hotels, the buffet was continuously restocked so even if you come down late, there are still pain au chocolat! Would definitely recommend it!

"3rd stay and not the last"
David F, 16 Septembre 2019

Last time we stayed at the Hermitage the room were were in was looking tired. This time our room had been refurbished and was clean and comfortable. Service is very very good which is why the hotel is so popular with lots of returning guests. It's only a few minutes walk into town itself if you want to explore.

"Outstanding service and great customer service"
Brussels-Man, 12 Septembre 2019

I organised a group stay at the hotel. From the beginning to the end the service was outstanding. From trips out and about to places to eat we got all the help we needed. ALL of the staff at the hotel were great. Will I go again ? Of course !

"Another great stay"
Karen S, 11 Septembre 2019

This is such a lovely hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The public areas are large with comfortable seating. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is varied......a particular highlight is the machine which squeezes oranges for you. Secure parking is available. The location is perfect, close to all the amenities of this beautiful old town.

"Parfait! "
JonG1466, 26 Août 2019

After having to leave our previous property due to an issue on our final night in France, we booked this at short notice and headed north, checking in here without high expectations and arriving at midnight. Despite an issue outside of the hotel's controls they were brilliantly accommodating in sorting out our booking in a calm and professional way. The on site manager, Jordan, in particular was hugely helpful - understated, polite and very effective. We settled in for an excellent sleep in a comfy room, enjoyed a simple yet generous breakfast, and then the town centre location ensured we could enjoy a relaxed morning stroll. Montreuil-sur-mer is a beautiful little town, so whether it's for a stop off on the way back to Calais or a slightly longer stay, we would thoroughly recommend the hotel as a great base.

"Lovely hotel with secure parking "
Athenanoc2a, 09 Août 2019

Stopped in for 1 night on our way further south. We were travelling with bikes on the roof so wanted secure parking (and no height restrictions) so this hotel was perfect. €10 per night was worth the peace of mind. + secure parking + rooms clean and sizeable, simple decor which was fine + small bar area with friendly staff + lawn area at the front of the hotel overlooking a cobbled square + central to the town so close to lots of bars and restaurants + fabulous breakfast with everything you could want (including an orange juicing machine which my children loved). Would highly recommend.

"Excellent hotel"
Becky071, 31 Juillet 2019

Stayed here for 1 night and found the staff friendly and polite and professional. The lady advent on reception could not have been more helpful. The man who runs the bar was superb and looked after us so well.

"What a fabulous weekend "
nickm00re04071501, 24 Juillet 2019

Best Western Hotel Hermitage Montreuil-sur-Mer Fantastic Hotel staff so friendly The hotel is one of the best 3 star hotels I have stayed in . It is clean and the staff are so friendly Its close to the many Bars and cafe, in Montreuil sur mer.

"Great stay, good location and great staff"
james1234810, 23 Juillet 2019

Visit while travelling in France on business. Telephoned the hotel when in Reims on the Saturday and made the reservation. Staff could not to enough for me and were extremely helpful and a credit to the BW group.

"Overnight Stay for 15 bikers"
HambledonSevenoaks, 16 Juillet 2019

I arranged an overnight stay in early July for 15 UK bikers - 5 couples and 5 singletons. Hotel had good secure parking, rooms were large and comfortable and bar area was good for pre dinner drinks. Breakfast was also very good and the hotel received plaudits from all who attended.

"Great location, great ambience"
aml1965, 15 Juillet 2019

This hotel is in a wonderful, chilled location in the delightful town of Montreuil sur mer. There are lots of lovely restaurants and bars within a short walk and it is situated in a pretty cobbled square with a church on one side. Parking is at the rear and there is a peaceful lawned area at the front with tables and chairs for having a drink or eating.

"Western Wobble"
Valve56, 03 Juin 2019

Stayed here one night as part of a car rally. Secure car park at rear. Room was fine, on ground floor, bathroom was microscopic. Set evening meal could have been better as should have been breakfast. I am a BW rewards member but they showed no interest.

"Good location but......."
Matfieldjonathan, 01 Juin 2019

The room decor was very basic. Lots of plastic surfaces. Clean. But the breakfast was very uninteresting and basic. The bar was ok. But the barman forgot my last order as he was talking to other guests.

"Best Western Hotel Hermitage"
platpeeps, 07 Mai 2019

We have stayed here over and over again, and still enjoy a great stay here. Staff are very friendly, and the rooms are great, with very good bathroom facilities. Tea and coffee facilities are provided, but I think they have now taken out the min-fridges - possibly because they got fed of guests taking all the stuff in the mini-bar and not being honest about what they had taken! Don't know .... Comfortable room, we had a "confort room" which has a queen size bed, although the duvet could be a bit bigger than they are, to fit that large size bed. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, although opening times vary according to the day of the week and the season, so it's worth checking first. We haven't actually eaten at the restaurant in the hotel yet (Anecdote) although we have eaten at this restaurant when it was called "Jereboam" Interestingly, the menu at Anecdote doesn't seem to be much different from when it was "Jereboam" (but the French don't like changing menus very much in our opinion!). There's a parking area at the back (with security gates), although spaces are limited. There is, however, parking in the town square, just opposite the hotel. We always enjoy staying here and are planning a return visit in October.

"A good hotel right in the middle of lovely old Montreuil and it has secure parking"
Mike L, 23 Avril 2019

Good size rooms, well appointed. For me it has properly secure parking with code gates. This is a must if you are travelling in France with loaded car, often with valuables, wine etc. A very good breakfast was served. Just walk out the front door and your and in the middle of town, its not far to join the beautiful ramparts circular walk

"An excellent hotel in a lovely town"
d_jones25, 22 Avril 2019

This is a really nice hotel with friendly & helpful staff. It is not a 5* but has all the essentials eg big comfortable bedrooms, good sound insulation, good breakfast, parking & a bar. It's greatest quality is its location. Central in the charming town of Montreuil. Bars & restaurants in close proximity. An easy drive to local golf eg Le Touquet & Just over an hour to WW1 sites eg the Somme.

"Quaint hotel in the middle of the old village."
gmarshall59, 20 Avril 2019

Quaint Hotel in the middle of the old village. Lots of nice restaurants in the area. Very rustic with modern rooms. Staff is very helpful. Has a great lounge. Restaurant is closed Sundays. Only has one American outlet that is only for a shaver. Breakfast was great.

"Central Location"
W1672BYchrisf, 08 Avril 2019

Stayed as a group of 11 golf players. Arrived on a Saturday and the staff kindly put the six nations rugby on the television as arranged in advance. We were treated to copious amounts of nibbles and sliced meats with our drinks. We moved on to the hotel restaurant and had a very pleasant meal. All good quality with passable wine. Slightly expensive compared to other restaurants in the area. The rooms were comfortable and clean although the twin beds were hard up against each other so not ideal for sharing friends who would prefer a bit more separation. The corner bath with shower was not very suitable for having a bath, but OK for shower. Breakfast included was very good with a wide range of choices. No bacon available and only self boiled eggs, but they would make an omelet on request. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. As a central location it was ideal for travelling to golf courses at Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, Fort Mahon, Hardelot and less than one hour from the Channel Tunnel. The hotel also alias a secure car park with an automatic gate at the rear. Free WiFi which worked pretty well throughout.

"Highly recommended"
RomanRemains, 07 Avril 2019

The staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms are comfortable. The breakfasts are very good. The secure car parking is excellent and the location is just perfect. A very enjoyable stay in this lovely historic town.

"Good value stay"
Considered16, 25 Mars 2019

We stayed for one night on 24/3/19. The hotel building has a very attractive facade. We paid under €50 for two sharing a double room. The room was large and situated on the first floor. The bed was comfortable and the room and hotel was clean. The en-suite bathroom/toilet smelt a little musty; possibly the extractor fans were not operating effectively. Otherwise a good value and peaceful stay in lovely Montreuil-sur-mer.

"Very comfortable centrally located hotel close to the A16"
10Orchard, 12 Mars 2019

large room which was quiet at the back of the hotel. comfortable large bed. Nice large bath although it takes ages to fill! Efficient check in. Parking is a challenge near the hotel but you will find that spaces become available in late afternoon. Many cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance.

"3 nights "
B4800GD, 02 Mars 2019

We stayed here for 3 nights a beautiful building large and welcoming our room very large and spacious was clean maybe a little dated but it suited us fine a secure car park at rear with direct access to hotel .you great a great buffet breakfast in hotel lots of lovely local food the hotel is within 10 minutes walk are lots of excellent bars restaurants and shops but most of all a member of the reception staff ASHRAF was absolutely fantastic a real service to this hotel friendly informative even phoned a restaurant where I left my cap the night before to check it was still there I definitely recommend a stay here

"Nice reasonably priced hotel"
MargaretCambs, 19 Février 2019

We were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this hotel for the price. Our room was huge with a lovely spacious bathroom. Tea and coffee and biscuits provifed and complimentary bottle of water. All very clean. The bar is quite nice with a friendly girl serving. Continental breakfast very good.

"Clean, spacious quiet rooms in centre of town"
Lindsay909, 04 Février 2019

Staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was large and airy - needs a little TLC: attention to broken window blind etc - nothing major. Pleasant small bar on ground floor. We had breakfast at the hotel one morning, and ate at a nearby cafe the next- which conveys our feelings on the hotel breakfast, without further comment. All in all the hotel is pleasant and clean. We would stay again if in the area.

"Great two night stay"
j_harrison7, 14 Janvier 2019

This hotel is really well situated in the centre of Montreuil wit adequate free parking in the streets that surround it. We arrived after a long drive and our receptionist noticed our fatigued state and offered as a free room upgrade. Our room was massive with all the amenities we could require. Service during our two night stay was exemplary and the whole building oozes atmosphere. We did not eat at the hotel but chose to find our own meals in the town, however we did have a couple of drinks from the hotel bar which was pleasantly situated but not cheap. A very nice hotel in an historic walled town

"Amazing value"
Simon G, 07 Janvier 2019

We had a large room on the first floor with a corridor leading off that had the separate lavatory and excellent bath/shower. Great bed; excellent location in the centre of the small town. I suspect that the 60 Euros that we paid for the night may have been a hefty discount, mind you! Free car parking outside the hotel.

"Awful."
Tang0Sierra, 29 Décembre 2018

We stayed here as a gift from our parents. It was a great building from the outside, and the photographs really got us excited. How dissapointed we were. We took our pet dogs, which understandably they charged extra for, but then we found our young pug choking on raisins she found on the floor. Unacceptable. The room was not clean, it was poorly maintained, il share some photos, there was hair in sink, the list could go on!!! Sort your act out best western, we expected more and you could have killed our dog.

"Great location for golf long weekend"
LondonBran, 26 Novembre 2018

We have stayed at Hermitage regularly over the past three years and are returning again in a few days time. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with ensuite bathroom. Great friendly bar area with very friendly staff. A gem of a place in Northern France.

"Armistice Weekend"
88phillm, 25 Novembre 2018

Stayed here for Armistice weekend whilst we tracked down a relatives memorial stone in Etaples. Great location in the town, 5 mins walk to the town centre and lots of places to eat. Stayed on a B&B basis, rooms just what you want, clean, warm and a comfy bed. Breakfast is continental style and pretty much everyone should be able to find something to eat. Public parking at the front of the hotel or private secure parking at the rear at Euros 10 per night. Staff super cheerful and friendly, looking forward to a return next summer

"Highly recommend"
Sharon K, 15 Novembre 2018

This hotel is a gem. The rooms are clean, comfortable and nicely presented. The bathroom is huge. The bar and lounge are easily accessible and the manager Foxy makes you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble. He will help and advise you where to visit and eat. We only stayed one night but would definitely go back.

"Overnight with friends"
Munchwell, 06 Novembre 2018

The good thing about the Hermitage is the consistently decent standard you find. But not every time as there are slips. Ignoring the decor that's now needing some updating, I was disappointed to find no hard soap or toiletries in the room. A request to reception to have the poor water flow in the bath did not get attention. Or perhaps it was rectified later. I couldn't see a temperature control but a small freestanding ac unit was in the corner. On the other hand the room was a good size and the bed comfortable. The flat screen tv worked ok. I'd still go back for the spaciousness and the general ambiance reminiscent of a time gone by.

"Anotherlovely stay at The Hermitage"
redwales2015, 01 Novembre 2018

Our second girls mini break at The Hermitage. We can warmly recommend this hotel... Super position(you can walk to supper in any of the restaurants) Comfortable beds, Clean rooms, Good value for money Friendly and helpful staff - a super 3 star hotel. We'll be back for our 2020 mini break!

"We found it fine"
Peter F, 06 Octobre 2018

Two seniors, on their way back to the 'Tunnel' stopped here for the night, as we had done in the past. This is a lovely old hotel, and on each occasion we have stayed our rooms have been large and well equipped. No different this time. We chose to park in the free car park opposite, which was no issue. We only stayed on a 'Bed' basis as we enjoy using local brasseries and bars, but despite what we read from other reviews, we would be happy to stay here again.

"Very helpful staff"
Michael J, 02 Octobre 2018

We arrived early and had no trouble getting our room well before the stated check in time. And when we asked for a recommendation for a local restaurant the concierge rang around it sadly it was a holiday Sunday and his choices were fully booked. So he gave us a map and showed us where to look and we managed to get into an alternative. Lovely well fitted room. HAD a nice stay.

FinJTVger, 28 Septembre 2018

We love characteristic style hotel buildings such as this, so as we were nearby checked in. Lovely style, comfortable all round. Has a modern, good restaurant (Separately owned). However the superior room we chose had an eye level fixed shelf on the wall positioned in line to exit the toilet door to the bathroom sink. In the early hours of 8th September I smashed my head soft tissue (level next to my eye) causing undue suffering & worry. Had to go to A&E at 6am by ambulance (returning afterwards by taxi 35€) for over 3 hours. A good start to my Birthday. Luckily I was later discharged as ok. I called & spoke to the duty manager who “did not agree that the shelf was precariously positioned” He did offer a free night as compensation to our dilemma, but we declined due to prearranged plans. However on our later departure we were presented with the “Full nights bill” without any comment or even a visit from him to see how I was feeling. Having then objected to this, the receptionist reluctantly removed the room cost. “The manager stated that there had never been an issue before & did not consider it necessary to have the position of the shelf changed;” I was lucky not to have the corner of the shelf directly in my eye!!.

"Beautiful hotel, wonderful service"
HHIFan0001, 27 Septembre 2018

From the moment I saw the beautiful exterior until check out I was not disappointed. The hotel and rooms are unique with an old European style. The staff was also just as welcoming and professional. I will definitely stay here again.

"Lovely building, sad & tired hotel!"
Swannie1953, 23 Septembre 2018

We have just returned from a two night stay in this hotel, very impressive building from the outside but very tired inside! Excellent location however does not make up for internal shabbiness! We were allocated room number 1 when checking in which is very close to reception, we soon realised that we had been given a room which was clearly equipped for a disabled person, not necessary for us but not a problem. However the bathroom was very much in need of a makeover and very visibly needed a major clean. Also when showering the whole bathroom became swamped in water which became quite dangerous for able bodied people let alone a disabled person, when I pointed this out to the lady in reception she apologised and said she would make a note ! Also in the mornings any smokers gather outside the window of this room! You are charged €10 a night for parking something not pointed out when booking. Breakfast is not good, only hot food is boiled eggs which is a fiasco as you have to cook your own and causes lots of confusion amongst fellow guests as to the ownership of the eggs! Sadly we will not be booking the Hermitage again unless there is a distinct improvement, not good value for money!

"Very comfortable"
Robert P, 19 Septembre 2018

Good hotel in the centre of Montreuil, which is small town in northern France. Very comfortable - large bedroom. Dog friendly. Large bar with(French) television. Limited secure parking but plenty of on street parking. Breakfast was disappointing - no cooked option.

"Ideal stop"
Graham2124, 09 Septembre 2018

Had unexpected stop over before ferry. Usual Best Western in as much as lovely building, slightly tired hotel, but can't fault it. Very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly. Fabulous food in the restaurant.

"Pleasant stopover on way to the Channel Tunnel"
Cicero57, 08 Septembre 2018

We wanted a change from the Hotels on the coast and this looked about right and indeed it proved to be a great success. Nothing negative to report at all and everything was as it should be at the hotel, helpful staff, comfy bed, large room, everything working and in place. Small but functional bar, excellent breakfast, easy to find and as it is right in the town centre a good location for an evening stroll around a nice little town. Car park available. It's an interesting building with lots of space, high ceilings etc. and a nice change from a modern (sometimes uninteresting) one. Certainly would stay again as good value for money and overall very pleasant stay. 50 minutes to Channel Tunnel via motorway.

"Good value hotel in a great location"
Jex_12, 06 Septembre 2018

This hotel is in the centre of the beautiful town of Montreuil-sur-Mer with a private, gated car park. The hotel is ideally placed and just a very short walk to the town square or the incredible ramparts that surround the town. Our room was very large and well equipped with a queen size bed (comfort room). The staff were nice and helpful. This is a good value hotel in a wonderful location.

"Excellent location for golf courses"
David P, 27 Août 2018

Free parking directly outside supplemented by more less than 75 metres away as well as secure parking on site @ 10€ per night (not necessary). Clean, comfortable, quiet & within walking distance of a number of restaurants, cafes & bars as well as other shops. Friendlt & helpful staff. Continental breakfast only but wide choice & ample to eat.

"Better place to be at Cote d Opale "
Peter R, 18 Août 2018

We recommend The Best Western Hotel Hermitage in Montreuil-sur-mer . Friendly staff at the reception, bar tender who is proud of his job, great selection of cognac, whisky, grappa, porto , cocktails etc. This all adds to make the difference. Breakfast is ok. Rooms are large enough and clean. Lots of free parking around the Hotel. Will come back when we stay in this lovely region.

"Hotel Hermitage, Montreuil sur Mer, France"
platpeeps, 17 Août 2018

We love staying here! The rooms are very comfortable and the staff are very welcoming and helpful. It's great having tea making facilities, but we co uld do with a few more sachets of the various drinks on the tray. Always have to ask for more decaf coffee - and why only put one packet of biscuits when there are two of us in the room? Great shower - although the jet could be a bit more powerful (always a thing in French hotels though!). Breakfast was very good - buffet style and everything we put on our plates was delicious! I wish they would provide bigger croissants though. Always tempted to have two small ones .... We haven't eaten at their restaurant though, for many years - I believe it doesn't belong to the hotel chain, but I wish "Anecdote" would change their menu - it's very much like the one that the former restaurant ("Jereboam") used to have! My husband and his colleague had to go to a meeting about 45 minutes drive from the hotel, and the hotel staff had no problem at all with me sitting in the hotel lobby until they returned. I was tempted to have one of their spa treatments, but didn't bother, will definitely do it next time we stay. A great stopover in a wonderful town - Montreuil is delightful.

"Perfect"
Steph B, 16 Août 2018

Spacious quiet room, friendly staff, fantastic central location, clean, good water pressure/plenty of hot water and comfortable beds. Short (10 min) steep walk uphill on cobbles from the bus stop, possibly difficult for elderly/infirm - there is only one taxi in the town, who was on holiday during our visit. Would definitely stay here again next time.

"French Road trip "
paulh612scag, 16 Août 2018

Decided to take my wife on her first French road trip round France where we stay in a new location every day , as you do! After leaving Calais channel tunnel and paying our respects at some the the war sites / museums we headed for the best western when was ideal because we essentially just needed a bed for the night It was only €115 inc breakfast , we paid an extra €10 which is optional, there is plenty of time outside the hotel and the town is very quite but we had a good reason for parking where we did The hotel does have a spar but we didn't have time to use it The room was perfect for us for a stop over beds we modern and comfortable and the show was wet ?? happy days. Breakfast was ideal then we were back on the road to our next destination The hotel was recommended to us and would recommend it to other friends

"Provided Air con"
Stephen I, 15 Août 2018

Room and bathroom were comfortable and hotel offered an excellent menu for breakfast so long as you were not too late. Excellent car parking facilities. Since our last stay the hotel has supplied mobile air con units. Ours worked quite well once we struggled with the exhaust hose and got it hanging out of the window which then cannot be closed, but we got by

"Great stopover in a gem of a hotel"
Carol G, 13 Août 2018

A lovely hotel immaculately clean, large comfortable rooms in a good location for the town. The good hotel Restaurant was closed as on annual holidays but plenty of choice a few minutes walk away. Adequate well presented breakfast. Lovely well stocked bar and terrace . Extremely helpful staff and private on site parking available if required. Easy to visit nearby coastal towns such as Le Touquet or Boulogne.

"French Adventure"
Karen S, 06 Août 2018

We stayed at the Hotel Hermitage as a group of friends for a long weekend break. We had Room 221 which was good sized and comfortable. The weather was really hot (30 most days) and so the air con unit and fan in the room were in constant use. Nice garden area at front of hotel for drinks or relaxing and a small raised terrace outside of the bar at the rear. Great parking for a group with a large number of very cherished cars! Staff very accommodating and friendly. This is the third visit for this group over a number of years and so our staying again says it all really! Great base for visiting the surrounding area and great scenery to enjoy whilst driving. If you are staying during August the locals late evening production of Les Miserables is a real spectacular to see. Good range of bars and restaurants close by and Montreuil is great to just wander around and get lost in!

"Lovely Little Find"
Jocole27, 03 Août 2018

We loved this place. Set In a beautiful little village only 45 minutes drive from the Eurotunnel makes it a great place to stop. Equally you could drive over for the weekend and simply enjoy the place. Set in the original chateau it is quite unique, the church to the side is part of the building. Friendly staff, welcoming and a huge bedroom. We will definitely return.

"Great hotel and location"
mikepbedford, 28 Juillet 2018

We have stayed at the Hermitage a number of times over the years and have never been disappointed and on this occasion we had a room on the first floor at the front overlooking the gardens, which was very nice. The location of the hotel is in walking distance of all the amenities of Montreuil, but is in a very quiet square and is ideal for a short break, the staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. There is a restaurant in the hotel which is very good, although a little more expensive than the normal for the area, but is well worth a visit. Looking forward to our next visit to the Hermitage.

"First visit & a very good experience"
xbanker49, 09 Juillet 2018

Struggled to find the hotel at first but once found it became ideal. We booked an executive room which was very large with king size bed & two large armchairs & situated at the back of the hotel. When checking in the member of staff said we had the best room in the hotel which we took with a pinch of salt but having seen it this could well be true as it was exactly the same as shown in their brochure. Breakfast at 13 euros was on the high side for what they had to offer although everything was clean & tidy. Overall this was a very good experience & we would have no hesitation in going back again.

"Still a good choice in Montreuil sur Mer."
DANDD69, 04 Juillet 2018

Third stay at this hotel. Very convenient location and lovely building. We had ground floor rooms which was not ideal as could not keep windows open at night, Expensive bar prices. Friendly and helpful staff especially Eric who is quite a character.

"Great Hotel"
YorkieJuly1969, 08 Février 2018

We were in Montreuil overnight returning home after a weeks skiing. Friendly, warm welcome, the hotel was very quiet as it's out of season but we had cocktails in the super bar. Large spacious bedroom & bathroom, free wifi. Right in the centre of town, with every restaurant within walking distance. Cannot recommend enough.

"Hotel Hermitage, Montreuil sur Mer, France"
platpeeps, 06 Février 2018

We stayed one night here as part of my husband's business trip. We always stay here whenever we're in the town, business or pleasure - it's really near all the shops and restaurants and there's a secure carpark at the back/side. The hotel has benefitted enormously from its refurb a couple of years ago, and we had reserved a bigger room, which had a desk (of sorts), a really nice bathroom (great shower) and tea-making facilities (so rare in France!). We don't usually have breakfast at this hotel, preferring to get something elsewhere. The staff are all very friendly and we enjoy sitting in their bar area occasionally for a drink. Will definitely be back again! It's a great business hotel.

"65th birthday "
Tinytonk, 23 Janvier 2018

Had a lovely stay at this hotel, cannot fault anything. Good sized room and comfortable, the staff are friendly and very helpful. The breakfast has a lot of choices and all fresh. Thank you to you all for a very enjoyable stay. Bob and Chris Archer.

"Overall a Good Stop Over"
SidneyParis, 12 Décembre 2017

Situated in the centre of Montreuil with ample secure parking, this hotel is ~45 minutes from Calais. There are a number of fine places to eat in this town and the majority are a short stroll from this hotel. It seems to be a well known stop over for classic car clubs. Our room was entirely unexceptional but everything worked and the bathroom was clean and functional but bordered on the austere. The bar is great fun, animated by it's famous barman: Eric the Fox.

"Location parking and friendly staff"
Lynton191, 29 Novembre 2017

We stayed for two nights recently and found the Hermitage consistent with our past experience, a great simple location, easy access, easy parking at the rear or on the Place, the bar staff are warm friendly and helpful and reception efficient and pleasant. The rooms are large well appointed and even at the front where we were quiet. The darkened corridors are a bit off putting till you work out that there are timed buttons to press as you progress, We will I'm sure stay again.......... one point if you dont book direct with Best Western or the Hotel but use a 3rd party booking company....... no Best Western points accrue!

"Stop-over West Europe Tour October 2017"
J3185ZDbryans, 20 Novembre 2017

Grand Hotel, slightly unusual building, off the beaten track and circa 50 miles south of Calais. If you are on your way home from the Normandy and Caen region and want to enjoy a last night in France, this is it. Judging by the historic addenda hanging on the walls of the reception area, this hotel is well known to the Historic Car fraternity. At the time of our overnight, there were a number of exceptional vehicles parked in the village square outside. Presumably various motor clubs use this hotel location as a starting or finishing point for touring activities. The room we had was big and I'm meaning big by comparison to any other hotel we have stayed in. I reckon the square metres area of that room would equal the ground floor area of my son's cottage. The shower and bathroom are traditional, as is the separate toilet. Huge bed, very comfortable, plenty storage, up to date tv and wifi. Corridors, stairway and reception areas big enough to drive around in. Bar and separate franchise restaurant welcoming and comfortable, food very good, prices on slight high side of acceptable. Reception staff very helpful, welcoming and a credit to the hotel. Accommodation prices a bit higher than elsewhere, we didn't mind given the general ambiance. There are circa 5 Michelin Star restaurants in the small town of Montreuil, quite surprising but maybe they can all make a living in the busy season. This hotel is part of the Best Western franchise network and we found it using the Sat-Nav. The distance off the motorway will discourage some, but its worth the extra distance. In summary, a good hotel, not the last word in luxury, but all you will need. It's on our return list, can't be fairer than that.

"Comfortable and convenient "
DANDD69, 12 Novembre 2017

Grand building with high ceilings right in the centre of town. Lots of nice restaurants within a short walking distance. Room was large and comfortable although lacking in any character. Large carpark at the back. Buffet continental breakast was fine.

"Comfortable relaxed and central"
philinda24, 11 Novembre 2017

A very comfortable hotel. Staying with friends on a Motoring holiday, spacious rooms if a little antiquated but well equipped. Excellent service from the staff from arrival to departure. Spacious private and secure parking. A great location in the centre of town. Montreuil sur Mere has quiet a few bars and restaurants and so if reasonably expensive fine dining is not your bag, then there are plenty of really good options in town but suggest you book. The included breakfast was very good indeed.

"Ideal location"
gjbenmo, 09 Novembre 2017

Lovely old hotel. Very spacious public rooms and bedrooms. Bedrooms maybe a little tired but very well equipped, with good beds and bedding, spacious bathroom with lovely, soft, fluffy towels and a hospitality tray, unusual in a French hotel. There is plenty of parking in one of their two car parks and lots of parking around the hotel. The hotel is ideally situated on the edge of town so easy walking into town for the restaurants etc. We had a room at the back of the hotel so there was no noise at all to disturb our sleep. All the staff we met were very helpful and friendly and spoke English. The breakfast was perhaps a little on the expensive side but there was a huge choice, a bottomless coffee pot and lovely white starched tablecloths. Would recommend and would definitely stay again.

"I really like this hotel"
franklin74, 07 Novembre 2017

Our room was large, comfortable, warm, soundproof, clean and well equipped for our stay. The hotel has car parking facilities, but street parking has always been safe. The staff, without exception, are friendly, courteous and professional. The breakfast buffet is more than adequate, and it is so nice to have tablecloths and napkins. The little touch that I really love is the small library, where I can always find a book that I haven't read.

"Central"
fudge005_11, 07 Novembre 2017

We booked an executive room which had robes and was bigger. The room was huge and looked out over the rear of the hotel. We would have liked a mini fridge but the coffee machine was a nice touch and pods were replenished every day. The toilet was separate to the bathroom and didn't have a sink!! Bit odd, don't know if this is a French thing. We found the bar really good and the bar staff excellent even remembered what you drank. Reception were also very helpful. We didn't use the restaurant so cant comment on that. We tried to get into the spa but the lady didn't speak English so it was a no go. There are two car parks which is very handy.

"Lovely stay"
337Frank, 02 Octobre 2017

Having always raced through this area previously, en route south, we decided to stay this time. The town is interesting although half shut in the autumn. This hotel is a fine choice, offering good value for money, large comfortable rooms and a quiet location. The bar was well stocked, there was a restaurant adjacent and secure payable parking is offered although unnecessary. Our only gripe was the breakfast which was promising but ultimately rather dull. Apart from boiled eggs, there was no hot food. All the pastries were disappointingly small ones but there was fresh orange juice sometimes. At €13 per person it wasn't great value. We would stay here again though.

"Overnight stay"
Michelle S, 01 Octobre 2017

On an overnight motorbike trip from UK we chose this interesting town to stay ... visited the Citadel and walked the ramparts ... easily reached from the hotel. Hotel was perfect for us. We arrived early and was offered a room to change out of our biking clothes and was able to leave our luggage there too. We parked in a secure car park behind the hotel with lots of room. Very helpful staff speaking good English which made checking in and out go smoothly. Our room was clean with very comfortable bed. Our tea and coffee tray hadnt been refilled but it was no problem to ask for more and the staff were very apologetic. Huge bathroom with plenty of towels and shower gel supplied. We chose not to use the restaurant here preferring to explore and try out other places although breakfast seemed hard to find. There is outside seating which would be lovely if using hotel bar on warm evenings. We would definitely return to this hotel ... great value, location, comfort and service.

"Golf break for 18"
1953Chris, 30 Septembre 2017

Centrally located with parking at the back or on the road outside. Typical old French hotel, rooms OK, comfy beds, functional bathroom, speedy wifi, tea and coffee making facilities, good hairdryer in bathroom. Ideal for exploring this interesting town. Friendly helpful staff. Breakfast typical continental so don't expect bacon and eggs. Would visit again as in an ideal spot and safe parking.

"A good night stop in Montreuil"
doversole, 29 Septembre 2017

This hotel was a hospital run by nuns just off the town centre. It seemed newly updated and our room on the ground floor was huge with the biggest bed I have ever seen. The bathroom was kitted out for disabled use and was excellent. Everything was clean, the sheets lovely and crisp. I suppose if anything it was all a little bit impersonal, not many staff around but the experience of staying there for the night was OK. We did not eat there or use the bar but enjoyed having the kettle and tea tray in the room.

"Fifth stay"
gah1963, 26 Septembre 2017

Year on year, nothing much changes. The Hotel Hermitage does everything well; good size rooms, friendly & helpful staff, a varied continental breakfast... Perfect for a short stay whilst visiting the surrounding area.

"Poor"
Mountain L, 07 Septembre 2017

Like a reject from a Wes Anderson set, the Best Western Hotel Hermitage has all the warmth and charm of a dentist's waiting room - and similarly the rooms are at least clean. The staff are helpful, but require your name, date of birth, address, telephone, and email "to give to the police" (a large stack of completed forms was on the reception desk). It was explained that this is a local bylaw to do with unwanted immigration, but seems rather Draconian. Breakfast was 13 euros extra (not hot), parking a further 10 euros a night - this was charged despite there being no space in the secure car park.

"Lovely place, excellent value."
Clare F, 06 Septembre 2017

We had rebooked this hotel on the Internet and had to keep checking that it was the right place and we had not made a mistake on the price. The room was large and comfortable, the hotel had a luxurious feel. The attached restaurant was extremely classy but sadly not open the second night we were there. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

"Great hotel"
Alan J, 30 Août 2017

Situated in the middle of the town.Plenty of parking either in the hotel car park at the rear or outside in free bays. The restaurant is not part of the hotel but it offers good food. Great location,an hour from the Channel Ports.

"Nice Hotel, lovely staff, terrible Breakfast"
Julie B, 08 Août 2017

I've stayed at this hotel several times before. The staff are very friendly, always willing to help. The rooms are generally spacious, unusual in a French hotel. Normally I don't take the breakfast option but this time we did. I thought the whole thing was pretty poor. There is no 'hot ' option except for boiled eggs and pancakes and toast of course. The boiled eggs are cook yourself..this is useless. The machine they use takes more than 10 minutes and by that time probably another diner has taken your egg anyway as no one realises it's 'cook your own' option. The coffee is very poor both from machine and filter as is the tea, mainly due to the fact that the hot water is not hot enough. I think if the hotel is to offer boiled eggs they should cook them in advance and leave them for guests to take up rather than cook themselves , also improve the hot drinks. The hot drinks obtained from the bar are perfectly acceptable so I fail to understand why the breakfast option is so bad.

"Excellent place to stay in Montreal sur Mer, for welcome, comfort and location"
Keith H, 07 Août 2017

From a warm and friendly welcome at reception, - to a clean, spacious and well appointed room, - with an excellent breakfast, and central location in the town, this is an ideal base for exploring the understated delights of the town.

"Excellent bolt-hole"
Chris R, 02 Août 2017

Having stumbled on The Hermitage ten years ago this has become a base of regular long weekends to Northern France, ideal for the town or touring. Visit the coast, WWI memorials, local history, Montreuil itself.

"Last minute change"
Mr B, 31 Juillet 2017

Stayed at this hotel as a last minute alteration to our plans. Ideally situated at the heart of the small town, with plenty of free parking available. With having to change hotels at the last minute, the receptionist was as helpful as anyone could be in welcoming us, even offering to place our room phone on free use to allow contact with the other hotel. Overall, a clean modern hotel, in the heart of the town, with fantastic breakfast. The only gripe I have is that there was a guests dog in the breakfast room, yapping and scratching while I ate. I don't like dogs, and I don't think that they should be where people eat. But, I suppose this is what the French do.

"Perfect"
Christine4186, 29 Juillet 2017

We were VERY pleasantly surprised when we arrived at this hotel after a long drive. Unfortunately it was only for one night on our return to Calais. It is in a beautiful building, very central with plenty of parking. The bedroom and bathroom were large, modern and spotlessly clean. The bath towels were lush, large and thick and it was nice to have coffee and tea making facilities in the room. The town is lovely, very pretty and neat with lovely walks around the ramparts giving great views across the countryside. Will definitely stay again here again if in this region.

"Nice location"
YorkieDJ, 20 Juillet 2017

Typical best western hotel. Does what it says on the tin. What attracted us was the central location and off street parking. On arrival greeted by friendly staff, and then got a free upgrade, one of the benefits of being a rewards member. The room was massive with a huge comfortable bed, big en suite. It was clean and had tea/coffee making facilities, consider taking your own tea bags. Did not eat in the hotel on the evening but had the buffet breakfast, plenty of it. Some nice outside seating areas to enjoy a drink. Handy stop off hotel. If thinking of going become a rewards member.

"Perfect for a quick stay whilst visiting three good golf courses nearby"
HarryBuckinghamshire, 20 Juillet 2017

We stayed as a group of six playing Golf in local vicinity. For this, the Hotel was centrally located and perfect for our needs . Rooms spacious and clean with all usual facilities. Drinks a little expensive. Local Parking nearby or at rear in Hotel Car park. Breakfast was self service continental and adequate.

"An overnight stop on the way to Calais"
Sally226, 19 Juillet 2017

Hotel was in an interesting building, in a pretty part of this very pretty small town. We were able to park in the square outside the hotel. Our room was spacious our bed comfortable and we tea making facilities. The carpet was a little grubby - never nice. Staff were friendly and spoke good English and were tolerant of my French!

"Friendly staff"
marilyn w, 11 Juillet 2017

Average room, nothing fancy... staff were helpful and polite...could have done with Air con in the room. Plus some English channels on the TV would have been nice. Plenty of tables outside to sit and enjoy the warm evenings

"Very pleasant 3 star hotel in Montreuil-sur-Mer"
GGDH7, 09 Juillet 2017

We spent two nights in this beautiful historical building which started as a hospice run by nuns in about 1200 but was totally reconstructed in the 19th century to become a regional hospital. An excellent job was made of converting the hospital into a hotel. Our standard room was comfortable and the en suite very spacious. There were several pleasant communal areas indoors and outdoors where one could relax. The staff at reception were especially friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was light and spacious with a buffet which offered a good variety of food and drinks. However, no full English cooked meal was on offer, only boiled eggs, and the buffet may well be considered over priced if one did not have a good appetite.

"Good location and parking"
Schuby47, 05 Juillet 2017

The hotel is in a very handy location, rooms are clean and staff are great. The breakfast on offer is of a good standard for this type of hotel. we were a party of four and had two upgraded rooms, neither had air conditioning. The hotel looks a little tired but overall is value for money. Worth taking a look at the bar prices before ordering, can be a bit expensive. I would go back there.

"Perfect for golf tour"
Stuart E, 05 Juillet 2017

We were 16 touring local golf courses (Belle Dunes, Le Touquet, Hardelot and Wimreaux). The Hermitage proved an ideal host venue. Decent rooms, good breakfast, plenty hot water, etc. Nice staff with a shout out to Carolyn and especially Eric the Fox on the bar.

"Lovely hotel"
Carolyn C, 03 Juillet 2017

This hotel is perfectly located in the middle of Montreuil sur Mer which is a very attractive little town. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast is satisfactory. The hotel is dog friendly.

"More Merriment in Montreuil "
Denis B, 24 Mai 2017

A fabulous five days of driving the delightful country roads in the area. The location of this hotel is perfect and the staff, accommodation was superb. The food was excellent and the great service received by the barman (Foxy) makes the whole evening go with a swing

"Lovely weekend"
Janie M, 23 Mai 2017

We were part a group booking of over 20 rooms, so I presume we had standard rooms. My husband and I were in 207 which was nice and roomy with a huge bathroom, and over looked Abbatiale St Saulve. We liked that the room had a kettle, tea, coffee and biscuits, and a complimentary bottle of water. There was no iron in the room, but reception were quick to arrange one. We had breakfast in a separate room for our group and it was a good spread. I liked the little gym too, although couldn't work out how to get any air con on. The staff were wonderful. They checked us all in without a fuss, made sure our cars were secure in our group's car park, put on a good dinner and always looked after us in the bar. Eric was our special hero all weekend! We will be back, even if its just the two of us.

"Good hotel in town centre"
tj52016, 21 Mai 2017

Good hotel in town centre location nearby many good restaurants. We ate at Froggy's which was fantastic. Good bar at the hotel and free parking. Breakfast was expensive, next time we will pick up a croissant from the Boulangerie instead.

"Fantastic Break"
Martin G, 19 Mai 2017

There was a large group of us, but the staff couldn't do enough for us. They laid on secure parking, BBQ, function room and let our band play in the bar later on. Rooms are large, well furnished and clean. Eric the barman is a national treasure. Really made our stay in Montreuil a good one.

"Amazing stay!"
LandBW7568, 15 Mai 2017

We stayed here as part of a large group and I can't recommend this hotel enough, the staff were excellent, very friendly and accommodating. Fred that worked the bar is an absolute star and a wonderful character. The room we had was large and spacious with a huge comfy bed. It's a great location for walking into town and seeing the local sights. Highly recommended

"Breakfast to be avoided."
Pollymeg, 15 Mai 2017

If you stay at this very average hotel do, please, try and avoid the breakfast and especially the coffee. Both are as mediocre as they come though the coffee surpasses itself for being the worst example we have had in years. Fortunately there are some excellent cafes and bistros in Montreuil where a super continental breakfast can be had for a fraction of the price charged by the Hermitage Hotel. Be warned!

"Return visit"
Rob S, 08 Mai 2017

Our favourite hotel in Montreuil Sur Mer, the rooms are large and well furnished, clean and everything you would expect from a Best Western hotel. Service is great and the bar serves a great mix of wines, spirits and beers at reasonable prices. Will we be back again definitely, is it our go to hotel in Montreuil yes. Happy to recommend.

"Chez Moi (my house) as the french would say, because that is how relaxed it is when you revisit"
Chris M, 04 Mai 2017

We are serial visitors to this excellent hotel, and they really do maintain the standards and if you book on line (on their own web site) you can get a better deal than by booking direct with the hotel. We had a 3 nights paying for 2 saving us over 100 euros, arriving on the 26th April 2017. it boasts a excellent bar and as other contributors have said they are very friendly. The rooms in our experience, are always clean and the beds comfortable. The town is a gem and we always walk around the walled part of the town (about 40 mins) to take in the vistas. Visit the Darnatel restaurant (you will eat different but not better!) and the Caveau in the large square which has truly well kept wines by the glass and excellent food and I am very very fussy!.

"Another fine stay at the Hermitage"
Mijobish, 30 Avril 2017

We have stayed several times at The Best Western Hotel Hermitage and it is our hotel of choice in Montreuil-sur-Mer. It has an excellent location and that essential for the motorist, ample secure parking! The hotel and rooms are clean, but the décor and furnishings are looking a little tired and dated now, hence the 4 star rating. The buffet breakfast is good and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Jordan, behind the reception desk, was particularly good and very customer orientated. He is a credit to the team! We will definitely book the Hermitage again when we return to Montreuil-sur-Mer. Date of stay 27 - 29 April 2017

"Well located in a nice vilage"
Grubsyme, 27 Avril 2017

Really nice hotel with large and well equipped rooms (we had a comfort room on the 3rd floor) and clean. Staff a friendly and helpful. My only slight criticism is the breakfast, on a busy morning it is quite chaotic and for €13 each I would expect a selection of hot items, however it is self service and there is a good choice of cold breakfast items and the ability to cook your own boiled eggs.

"Friendly staff dirty carpets(room 127)"
Pim D, 02 Avril 2017

Having arrived on Friday 31st march checked in and found room very small ask if we could change the room and with a smile said no problem ,so they gave us a executive suit . Nice large roomy no problem but the the carpets are filthy did not what to go down again and complain. All the staff are extremely friendly helpful and willing to help you,but for management not checking the rooms to see if there are any problems I will not use this hotel again and it seems very much in the style of best western hotels that they never check the group hotels and I feel very sorry for the staff that work there to be let down.

"Overnight stop en-route to Amiens"
Paul G, 01 Avril 2017

Stayed here last night after a late crossing on the eurotunnel. Hotel was nice, and staff very friendly and the gentlemen who checked us in was very helpful, even phoning ahead to a local restaurant to reserve us a table that we'd been recommended (unfortunately the restaurant ignored the reservation and chose to close the kitchen before we arrived....... but that's for another review) Would definitely stay again...... only slight thing was the room we had was a little musky smelling upon entering, but nothing major.

"Charming hotel in a quaint historic town."
sh12017, 18 Février 2017

My husband, teenage daughter and I spent a couple of nights here over half term, as it was a perfect base to explore the surrounding area. The hotel was comfortable and warm and the staff friendly and attentive. Eric, the bar manager was most welcoming with his kind hospitality. The testament to this hotel is its regular clients who return on an annual basis...We plan on returning!

"Very convenient hotel"
maryna475, 06 Février 2017

This hotel is in the middle of the historic town Montreuil sur Mer. Very convenient as you can walk to all the historical places. In the town are plenty of restaurant to choose from and again a walk away from the hotel. The hotel used to be a hospital held by nons. Our room and bedroom was huge and very comfortable. We didn't had dinner in the restaurant as it was closed, but we can recommend the bar were you can enjoy your drink in a relaxed atmosfeer. For breakfast there is plenty to choose from, the choice is endless and very fresh. The staff is very nice and helpful.I was touched when the waitress who serves the breakfast came to see goodbye when we left, you don't see that very often. Definitely a place to stay. We will go back for sure.

"A Good Night Halt in a pretty French village"
PeterTheEater2000, 10 Janvier 2017

We stayed here because it was one hours drive south of Calais which suited us after getting of the ferry at Calais. It's an old Village with a lovely square, Shops and restaurants. The Hermitage has a secure car park which is important to us being loaded up for a few weeks away and not wanting to carry everything into the hotel. It was cosy and the room was adequate with comfortable beds, and a good sized bathroom. The bar is nicely appointed and was a lovely place to enjoy a night cap before hitting the pillow. The breakfast was of good quality and plentiful, and a good choice for most people. The staff are very friendly and attentive. It represented very good value for the price of 119 euros inc breakfast for two. We will definitely return when next in the area.

"Another enjoyable stay at this hotel"
GUUK, 27 Novembre 2016

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel on a short break to France. Once again it was very pleasant, comfortable and very good value for money. Very friendly staff too. The location is excellent, in a very pretty historic town. For a one or two night break from the UK, I would say this is an excellent choice and I am sure I will be back again.

"Great location. Friendly and helpful staff"
User, 15 Novembre 2016

Stayed for two nights. Really good value. Spacious, clean and quiet double room on the first floor overlooking the square. Great location although to be fair the town is compact so you are not that far from anywhere. Breakfast was good with the expected range of fresh bread, preserves, ham, cheese, eggs etc. One small gripe was the slow speed of the one coffee/hot water machine which led to quite a wait for a hot drink. However, what made this such a treat was the staff. They couldn't have been more helpful. All spoke great English. Ashraf in particular was a star in recommending restaurants and ringing round to find a dinner reservation which was easier said than done on a holiday weekend. No hesitation in recommending this hotel for a long weekend and will definitely return next time we are in the region.

"Perfect base for exploring Montreuil"
AndrewPB63, 14 Novembre 2016

This hotel's central location makes it a perfect base for exploring Montreuil. The town is very compact anyway so nothing is very far from anything else, but a central location really adds to the convenience, especially when changeable weather forces a change of plans and/or clothes. Our room (a standard double) was large and comfortable, with room to spread out. The bathroom was clean and included a working hairdryer, which instantly earned the hotel points over and above some others of our recent experience. Throughout our short stay (2 nights) we found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. The reception staff especially so, speaking excellent English and happy to provide information and directions for local attractions. Although the hotel has its own parking facility we used the free parking in Place Gambetta which was just as (if not more) convenient.

"Next door to the Wine Society"
_jamiebebb, 01 Novembre 2016

So if you're thinking of buying wine this hotel is very convenient, although when we were there, the Wine Society had virtually no stock! The hotel is comfortable and within 5 minutes walk of the main restaurants in town. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. The room was big, comfortable and had good facilities. The hotel bar was well-stocked and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was comprehensive, although we advise you to boil your egg for twice as long as they suggest in order to achieve something edible.

"A very good hotel"
dansweeney69, 09 Octobre 2016

We stayed as a group of 4 golfers in mid September for 4 nights and overall had an excellent time at the Hermitage. Location of the hotel is fantastic in the middle of Montreuil.Plenty of free car parking in square opposite hotel. No need to pay 10 euros a night in hotel compound. Rooms lovely and large and very comfortable.Cleanliness of bathroom however needs improving. Breakfasts were adequate - continental but plenty of choice. Staff very polite and helpful.Nice bar area but beer prices between 7-9 euros a pint ensured we went out most nights!!! Would definitely stay at the Hermitage again.Thank you.

"A great place to stay. Warm & friendly welcome"
Bernie N, 08 Octobre 2016

We stayed on a Sunday night in order to do some shopping and sightseeing on the Monday. We were welcomed enthusiastically by Ashraf, the Manager who we had met before some years ago. He remembered us & nothing was too much trouble. Lovely bar area with reasonably priced bottles of wine. We had a first floor room, at the front of the hotel, overlooking the square & the church. We were amazed how tranquil it was. The buffet breakfast was absolutely fine, apart from the weak Lipton's tea bags (the French don't really 'get' tea!) We'll definitely return, despite the Wine Society shop closing down soon. Montreuil is a lovely enough place to visit and near to Le Touquet with it's beautiful beach.

"OK but"
martin041950, 05 Octobre 2016

This is the third or fourth stay here when visiting The Wine Society shop in the car park. The outside is impressive but many areas inside are faded and in need of updating. Room was adequate but again some attention to details missing. Not sure i will stay again

"A firm favourite"
leighb2000, 05 Octobre 2016

The Hermitage is probably the best mid-priced hotel in the town of Montreuil. I prefer to pay a little more for the Confort Rooms which offer more space than the standard. We stayed in Room 204 which has a great view over the square. The staff were efficient and pleasant, and speak perfectly good English if you cannot manage French. I will certainly continue to use this well sited and well maintained hotel in the future.

"A very comfortable night"
bargee2016, 05 Octobre 2016

This was not our first choice, but that one turned out to have a lot of hidden costs so we fetched up here, paying just 68 €uros + 2€ tax. The room was large and the bed very comfortable, and the toilet/wash areas were amazingly spacious. Everything was very clean and tidy, though probably a bit too tired looking for more than 4 stars. Overnight temperatures dropped unseasonably to 4º, but the heating system warmed the room decently in the morning. There was a wide breakfast choice (at 13€), including diy apparatus for toast and boiled egg if that is your thing. I was not fond of the coffee however which I found to be rather weak and insipid.

"Good for a short stay"
robin k, 30 Septembre 2016

We stayed three nights recently on a golf trip to the area. Perfectly good, well run hotel but it needs a bit of money spent on it. Comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast was a good buffet (the toaster actually worked). We had a group dinner for 20 one night in the hotel's named restaurant. Okay - nothing special. Better to explore the old town which is right outside the hotel. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. One real bonus for the hotel: the batteries on my camera gave out one evening. The manager on the reception desk found me four (new) replacements and refused to charge for them. Another bonus for the hotel: a colleague's car battery expired twice. So the hotel arranged for a local garage to sort out the situation and find a new battery (which it did). And there is free wi-fi. Good Service!

"Just scrapes four stars"
Packhorse, 23 Septembre 2016

Charming location on a square with a church. Welcoming reception and bar. Room with high ceilings and pretty comfortable though it required some ingenuity to secure the windows open. Shower good and towels large. Let down by a distinctly average breakfast, with poor selection and coffee from machine. Entertained by a wedding in the square - and, whether linked to this or not, distracted from sleep by rather raucous shouting in the bar garden below. Did not try the restaurant - found a superb and inexpensive one nearby, the Cocquempot at 2 Place de la Paissonerie.

"Back again..."
gah1963, 20 Septembre 2016

This is now the forth time I have stayed in the Hermitage. Little changes year to year. Always welcoming. Good standard of rooms and breakfast. Nicely positioned in the town, just a few minutes walk from the centre.

"Very good value"
Peter T, 20 Septembre 2016

We stayed for one night on our way home, and to be honest the reason we booked this hotel was because it was so reasonably priced (68 Euros for a double room !). From the outside the hotel is very attractive, and it has nice outside seating and a comfortable bar. The rooms are a little "tired", but a reasonable size and perfectly clean. Our room was overlooking the carpark, so didn't have the nice views of the church, but equally didn't get woken up by the church bells in the morning. The room had a large bathroom, TV and a standalone air-conditioning unit (which we didn't use) The hotel also has plenty of secure parking, and for the price was a real bargain. Didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but at one of the many nearby cafes/bars that do breakfast.

"Hotel not as impressive as the building"
Roland B, 19 Septembre 2016

Stayed on a four night golf break. Room adequate but no heating of any sort, not even the towel rail. The weather turned cold and wet and we could not dry out the golf gear. We were told there would be no heating until the end of October. Breakfast minimal continental. No hot food except toast and a boiled egg if you did it yourself. The bathroom was disappointing with a shower in a bath which had come loose from its mountings. Balancing in a rocky bath trying to shower is no fun. TV in the bar ok if you speak French. Wonderful setting and wonderful town. Best Western should do better.

"Architecturally interesting elegant- looking hotel"
bidforester, 13 Septembre 2016

The outside of this hotel is very impressive and even has an attached chapel. It looks classically elegant and the inside is interesting too, and very welcoming. The building was built as a hospital but there are no bare rooms and corridors. The rooms are large and attractive with excellent large modern bathrooms, with bath. We stayed here twice going south and returning. The first bedroom had the most enormous bed, bigger even than anything I have seen anywhere, and the second time the bed was smaller but still a super king size. Both were superbly comfortable. The ceilings are very high with the tallest windows and curtains I have seen. There were sheer blinds too but the actual curtains could be drawn and had blackout linings. Breakfast was excellent, although extra. The bar was cosy with a very helpful barman who gave us advice on the town which is very attractive. There I an attached restaurant we didn't use, but it was packed and looked popular. The reception staff were very helpful. I am not sure why this was rated three star, but it may be because there was no porter, but there was a lift so this didn't matter. We actually chose this place because it had a walled car park with video surveillance but we were charmed by it anyway.

"Good value on centre"
mike l, 06 Septembre 2016

Second tome in this hotel. Large rooms, good location. Booked on Best Western web site where the price of the room was only 5 Euros more to include breakfast, which otherwise would have been 13 Euro each, worth checking their official site. Offered a place to store our bicycles.

"A return to Hotel Hermitage "
Denis B, 05 Septembre 2016

A great hotel, perfect for any occasion the staff always welcome guests with open arms and the effervescent Eric behind the bar tops off any evening. The rooms are massive in size and the condition of each is a credit to the hotel. With ample car parking, inside a walled compound and locked gates at night the security is excellent. The bonus to this hotel is its location, the town of Montrieul is a delight to visit and in particular the many delightful restaurants in town.

"JUST ABOUT GOOD ENOUGH"
gmm83, 20 Août 2016

The hotel is large and functional and certainly good for a one night stop over. It was easy to park outside. The service was efficient but not especially friendly. Our bedroom was a reasonable size (111) but there were a few slight niggles. The hangers were captive and the glasses were plastic and you had to drink either from them or teacups. There was free wifi but you had to put in a password. Face flannels were provided but no bath robes. We did not stay for breakfast.

"Comfortable night"
Anne R, 13 Août 2016

Stayed here for just one night on our way back to Calais after a holiday in Epernay. Comfortable spacious rooms with decent sized bathrooms, although bathrooms were looking a little tired. Disappointed that the night (Wednesday) we stayed the hotel restaurant wasn't open. Didn't have breakfast in the hotel so can't comment.

"Functional and clean room"
snellbydate, 10 Août 2016

The room was large and the bathroom spotless with good quality towels. The bed was large and the room spacious with a flat screen TVs and hospitality tray which was restocked daily. The carpet in room 212 needs cleaning but other than that we were very happy with the room

"Nice but nothing special"
pdrobi, 07 Août 2016

We stayed here for one night on the way back to the Eurotunnel. We have stayed in Montreuil before and thoroughly enjoy this beautiful little town although on this occasion a lot of it was being dug up with roads closed and footpaths impassable. I guess they are making improvements. The Best Western was offering a good deal on rooms so we decided to try this place instead of our usual stop. We have seen the building so many times and it looks impressive from the outside. Checking was very easy with the receptionist just asking that we check out by 10 or 11 or 12 at the latest the next day. I guess they were not full! There is nothing really wrong with the hotel except you expect something more from such a grand looking building. Everywhere is clean if a little tired and not exactly basic but not opulent. The room was lovely and big with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was huge and there were plenty of towels and toiletries etc. It was a nice hotel but some little things just let it down a bit. For a room with two people staying in it they left one very small bottle of water on the desk. Why only one? The clock radio by the bed is shabby cheap and wasn't working so why bother having one. None of this would put me off staying here again and the staff were lovely so I can't complain too much. It just wasn't quite a grand as I had expected.

"Car club fans run this place."
richardabb0tt, 05 Août 2016

A group of 10 travelers in 5 cars, we stayed here for four nights. Each night we had pre and post dinner drinks in the bar. The bar staff were very hospitable, serving until late night. The walls of the bar area were covered in car rally plaques and photos of previous car rally cars were on display on a screen, both at the reception and in the bar The bar area was comfortable, with large seating areas. Outside there was a large seating area also, with garden chairs and tables. There is a private car park, with secure gates. Nice if you've a prized car. The wine society has a large shop at the rear. The rooms were very comfortable and large. Breakfast was good, with eggs, meats, yoghurt, breads, fruit and juices. Over all we were treated well, comfortable and would go back again.

"Not as good as it should be"
woodrot, 26 Juillet 2016

This hotel is a very imposing building on the square next to the Abbey- when you see it you think "wow"- but it doesn't really follow through inside. It is basically understaffed with the receptionist doubling as barman and one member of staff in charge of breakfast. Our room on the 2nd floor was very spacious; a large bedroom with a small vestibule area leading to a large bathroom. The room was clean but the carpet - an unfortunate shade of brown - was stained quite badly and the curtains,( which must have been at least 28feet in length to cover the double height windows! )were torn. A mobile air-con unit which had been put in the corner of the room provided cool air from the top vent but threw out so much hot air from the bottom of the unit as to render it totally useless - it also was extremely noisy so would have been unusable even if it wasn't producing all the heat! I would think the room would be very hot in the summer unless some efficient form of cooling can be found. Everywhere just looked rather tired. That said, the staff who were around were all very friendly. The buffet breakfast was adequate if basic.

"Functional, understaffed hotel"
Richard L, 26 Juillet 2016

We have stayed in Montreuil several times, though this was our first (and last) time at the Hermitage. A very attractive and imposing looking hotel from the outside which, sadly, disappoints on the inside. Our room was ok (although there were stains on the carpet and one of the curtains was torn), and the bed was very large and extremely comfortable. The décor in the room, and within the hotel generally, however, was rather cheap and cheerful. The hotel appears to be very understaffed: breakfast was staffed by only one person who, although doing her best, was run off her feet and struggled to cope. Our first morning's breakfast was a near hideous experience, as some sort of car enthusiasts group was booked in and had taken over the room completely. When we arrived for breakfast at around 9am (breakfast is advertised as being served until 10am) there were no spaces to sit (spaces were cleared and provided within about five minutes) and there were many empty bowls (no fresh fruit salad or meats left). The group was having a very loud farewell and the whole experience was akin to being back in a school dining room - awful! The hotel is okay if you don't mind a 'chain hotel' feel, but given the other places available in Montreuil, I would suggest that a better experience can be had elsewhere in town for the same sort of money as the Hermitage charge.

"Hermitage Hotel"
Sandra B, 19 Juillet 2016

We have stayed at this hotel several times at the end of a holiday, so must like it. It is a comfortable, old fashioned, hotel more like an English hotel than a French one The reception staff speak good English, and are charming and efficient. When we registered this year we were told "you will be staying in the same room as the last time you stayed" which made us feel like valued regular guests The breakfast is always good, no staff but serve yourself, which we like. It is pricey and could do with being updated, but not too much as it would lose its charm. It's a short walk from the town and restuants and chateau

"Disappointing"
SurreyUmbrella, 13 Juillet 2016

We have frequently visited Montreuil but we usually stay in one of the many characterful B&Bs. We had booked a standard double room. The room was plenty big enough and the bathroom was enormous with large fluffy towels. There was a stand-alone air conditioning unit which we used, only to discover in the morning that it had leaked all over the carpet. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room but if you like a strong brew bring your own tea bags as the only one on offer was Liptons which is very weak. You might also want to take your own milk as the long-life cream provided was fine for coffee but not for tea. Unfortunately we didn't sleep well; our bed needed a new mattress (there was a trough in the middle and we kept rolling into it. My husband and I both woke up with aching backs. 13 euros per person for a cold buffet breakfast was rather expensive. No individual tea or coffee pots; the coffee was dispensed from a machine which also delivered hot water for the tea. Unfortunately it wasn't hot and it tasted vaguely of the coffee dispensed by the previous person. My husband said the coffee was good. Don't fork out the 10 euros for parking as there is plenty in the square opposite the hotel.

"Great hotel friendly efficient staff and a wine club just across the car park!"
R H, 05 Juillet 2016

The Hotel Hermitage located in the walled city of Montreuil-sur-Mer with much first world war heritage to discover. The historical heritage goes back 100s of years and this comes alive as you walk the streets and ramparts. Plenty of places to enjoy excellent food and a central square where numerous events take place throughout the year. You soon feel part of the community and get a warm welcome from the locals. The Hotel offers a homely relaxed atmosphere with attentive staff who clearly set out to make you feel welcome and valued as a customer.

"Nice hotel with lovely atmosphere and staff"
handif, 03 Juillet 2016

We've stayed before and enjoyed it, so every reason to expect the same again. There seems to have been effort in upgrading rooms since our last visit. We had what appeared to be new bedding and towels in a freshly painted room. Much appreciated! There's quite a family feel to the place and it's very relaxed. The bar was nice and breakfast easy. If there's one thing I'd change it'd be the beds. It felt a little in need of replacement and did affect the quality of our sleep. So for us 8/10 with an easy shift to 10/10 with this rectified.

"Great location & staff"
TravelFun24, 02 Juillet 2016

Well located in a small 'square' in a quieter part of Montreuil but a short stroll from plenty of bars & restaurants & the main square. Very welcoming, friendly & helpful staff. Our room was very spacious with a large comfortable bed & en-suite bathroom, with shower over the bath. The bathroom is equipped with hairdryer, shampoo/shower gel & plenty of towels. Free parking available in the 'square' outside of the hotel. When visiting this part of France we will definitely stay here again.

"A good base to explore Montreuil from ..."
James O, 01 Juillet 2016

Classic chain association hotel with rooms in good decorative and clean order. Very welcoming and helpful reception staff. Car park is tricky to find as it's at the back and poorly signed so go past the front of the hotel and keep turning left and look for the Wine Society shop signage. Just a query on value for me.

"A place for a good welcome and sound nights sleep"
Glyn D, 30 Juin 2016

We have stayed at the Hermitage on many occasions now and always find the staff most helpful, the hotel clean and the service good. The hotel is in a great position to enjoy the town and a walk around the walls is always a delight.

"Short break, great hotel"
Chris S, 28 Juin 2016

Stayed here for 4 nights and what a nice hotel it is, comfortable room with plenty of space for stretching out. The hotel staff did everything to make our stay enjoyable, the breakfast was typical French fair, tasty and fresh. We will be staying again very soon and can highly recommend The Hermitage Hotel as a super place to stay.

"Over night stop"
rayrobertsr3, 27 Juin 2016

We are frequent visitors to this hotel. Normally everything works perfectly - this time we had 3 lights in our room that would not work and could not be fixed by a quick maintenance visit. Disappointing, as it was such a short stay it was not worth changing rooms. All staff very friendly (as usual) and tried to help. I am sure next time everything will be perfect, once again!

"Overnight in Montreuil sur mer"
Sheila H, 26 Juin 2016

The hotel looks very grand from the outside. Not quite so grand inside but nonetheless very nice. Friendly and efficient female receptionist when we arrived on Saturday night, secure car parking at 10 euros (a bit steep) The room was a standard twin, very clean and comfortable. the beds were perfect and the bathroom was a very good size, shampoo, soap, hairdryer all provided. We couldn't eat in the restaurant because it was fully booked, another good sign. I would definitely go back to this hotel.

"super breakfast"
janetjoeattoe, 24 Juin 2016

We finally found a hotel with a bath what a treat. Everything we needed for a good overnight stop no supper but a restaurant next door which could be booked at the hotel. A very convenient method of booking and simple check in with someone speaking fluent English.

"Lovely long weekend!"
j_cotterell, 24 Juin 2016

Very comfortable room. Very high ceiling. Proper size bathroom. Right in the heart of this amazing town with easy access to historic ramparts. Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff. Relaxing atmosphere. We'll be back again.

Sandra S, 24 Juin 2016

We have been staying at the Hermitage for a few years now. We keep coming back! We have introduced other family members, and have celebrated a special Birthday there in the past. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The Hotel is in a central position in Montreuil, and you can park your car in the car park, which is an added bonus. We have used the Hotel as a base while exploring area as well, Le Touquet is easily accessible. .

"Lovely staff, comfortable rooms, good value"
Patricia J, 23 Juin 2016

We have been staying here for 5 years and would not hesitate to recommend it. The bedrooms are large and well-equipped and the free wi-fi is fast and reliable. Breakfast is excellent. With two car parks and lots of parking in the square outside, the hotel is in the centre of the town, which is charming. At night there is complete silence despite its central location. Above all the staff are superb and most of them have been there for years which means we can get to know them. Montreuil is full of restaurants, all within a short walk. There is also a range of interesting shops. Well worth visiting. We love both the town and the hotel and have already stayed several times this year with more visits in the pipeline.

"Mini break in Montrieul"
Paul E, 23 Juin 2016

A very friendly and helpful hotel, situated in the centre of Montrieul. Rooms spotlessly clean and well appointed. Very good continental breakfast, but worth trying the local cafes, of which there are numerous within a short walking distance.

"Decent...but noisy"
seanbee, 17 Juin 2016

This hotel is fine ( note lack of any major excitement on my part). It is very well located in this nice little town. Rooms are big and clean but walls are thin and you can hear the other rooms very well. Staff are nice. Breakfast is ok but over-priced. At reception we were promised "an American-style buffet". It isn't . It is a classic French-style-three-star-hotel buffet; some cold meats, a bit of cheese, boiled eggs etc etc..... Fine, but not worth the price. If you stay in Montreuil you could do worse than here ( and certainly pay a lot more!)

"Hotel Hermitage"
MmeMangetout, 14 Juin 2016

Lovely hotel with big rooms & huge bathrooms, lovely comfy bed. Good choices at breakfast but I'd suggest giving the local cafes a try too. Very nice, welcoming staff, very clean rooms and public areas. The rack rate is a little expensive so I tend to go for the reduced room rates on booking.com , other websites are available :-)

"Nice hotel in a good location."
Cassalba, 12 Juin 2016

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel 4-5 times and my golfing buddies and I 3 times now. We stayed here on 6-10 June on a golfing trip and we were allocated rooms 111 and 112. The rooms were very big and spacious with a safe inside the wardrobe which was very handy. The beds were twin beds which could be put together as a double. The ensuite was not very good. The sink was right next to the bath/shower and it was a tight squeeze to get between them to get into the bath for a shower and the bath was a but slippery. Luckily the heated towel rail was close buy to hold onto to get in and out of the bath. The tea and coffee making facilities were adaquate apart from there being no milk for tea but only cream for coffee. The radiators were on in the corridors which made it to warm. The breakfast was very good with plenty to choose from like cereals, yogurts, cold meat and cheeses, bread, pancakes, bagguettes, jam, eggs, tea and coffee and also fruit juices. All in all, we enjoyed our stay but something needs to be done regarding the bath/shower being tomclose to the sink. It is also a little money spinner, charging 10 euros per night for car parking which seems excessive but a neccessity to keep our golf clubs safe in the car.

"Short stay to break a journey to the south"
Rob S, 11 Juin 2016

It's isn't the first time we have stayed here and it won't be the last, easy check in, great service and an easy laid back approach.. The rooms are well appointed and of a good size.. The team are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble.. The bar in the evening is brilliant and the service is fantastic..I would happily recommend to anyone staying in Montreuil..

"Yet another great weekend"
Martyn C, 01 Juin 2016

This hotel is fantastic yet again we had an amazing weekend and have booked to come back. Eric (Foxy) is without doubt the star attraction he greets you like a long lost friend and makes everyone feel so welcome the town is full of history and well worth a visit. See you next year Eric

"Well organised, friendly and welcoming"
McGus57, 01 Juin 2016

From the first contact I had the feeling that I was in good hands, very important as I was choosing and booking on behalf of a number of friends. Correspondence was dealt with immediately and professionally. It was very welocming to have our party's name displayed on reception and at the breakfast table - no chance of getting lost! The hotel is clean, warm and well maintained, it has a well stocked bar and the self-service breakfast was plentiful with an adequate range to satisfy all but the most fussy. Our standard room was well looked after with a spacious bathroom sleeping area - more thatn adequate. We will happily return!

"Eric outstanding !"
Hazel T, 29 Mai 2016

Well what can I say - I am new to the Harley III Rivers UK Chapter - we stayed at Hotel Hermitage bank holiday weekend - what made it really special was Eric - he loves his job, he loves his customers, he really knows how to go the extra mile - I would come back here again and again and highly recommend this hotel for hospitality, customer service and quality!

"Pretty good budget hotel. "
grit0709, 25 Mai 2016

Stayed with a group of golfers. Unsure as to the cost of the hotel as part of a package. Room was spacious with good shower. Breakfast fairly average. Bar was good, with a very good barman. Very stern woman on reception when we checked out. Charged us for drinks we didn't have. Later refunded.

"Impressive from the outside"
Tbird1600, 24 Mai 2016

We needed to stay one night in Montreuil, we had stayed here before as it was centrally located and reasonably priced we booked again. The rooms are large and clean the bed very comfortable. Our bathroom was again large and could have easily accommodated a separate shower booth which is needed as the shower is on the weak side. Be careful when taking a shower in the bath, as it can become very slippery in the bath. Breakfast was a let down. A limited choice and badly managed with food not being topped up when low. Only hot thing on offer were boiled eggs, even the croissants were small and cold. For what you get, you could get better for the price. From the outside, the hotel looks impressive which does not match the quality of the rooms.

"Needs a makeover"
Peter B, 10 Mai 2016

We booked this hotel a bit at the last minute as we couldn't get into our favourite which is 'Le Coq'. We have stayed here before on more than one occasion and the whole place looks like it needs repainting and new carpets at least. For the price of a standard room you get a smallish space but with a comfortable double bed, that is clean, as well as a good sized bathroom with bath/shower. The bath surface is quite slippery and the drop onto the floor from the bath could catch out the unwary. Breakfast is not included and is poorer value than on previous trips, with limited choice. For example the orange juice reminded me of the awful tinned orange juice that you used to be served back in the 70's. On the positive side it has a quiet location and is very convenient for Wine Society members, but the discount offered on the room rate still comes out more expensive than other websites, so overall it is not really worth the money. It is rated at 3 stars, I wonder why. We love Montrueil, it's convenient location for trips around Northern France, it has many excellent restaurants and generally easy access to a local motorway.

"Very good basic hotel for a few nights' stay."
Brenda430151, 06 Mai 2016

Large, clean comfortable room with all the basic facilities. Found the bed a bit hard but otherwise very good. Very disappointed that there were no restaurant facilities on either Sunday or Monday evening. Excellent location, however, with good parking facilities.

"A good budget hotel in a central position"
paul j j, 25 Avril 2016

My experience is totally coloured by the appalling noise in our Room both at night and in the morning. We were on the Ground Floor of the hotel and at 12.pm to 1pm there was clearly a lot of drinking in the bar which resonated into our room. At 6am a Bus party was preparing to go and this went on until 6.45. The rooms a re ok, parking good, service is excellent, food ok but this experience spoilt our trip. When I pointed this out to the hotel they did deduct the price of our breakfast from the bill which was a good gesture. In spite of this I would not go there again nor would I recommend any one to do so unless you are given a room in the upstairs areas

"Beautiful town"
linda e, 20 Avril 2016

Stayed one night on a quick weekend jaunt. Hotel staff were very efficient and very obliging. Warning do not take a ground floor room. The noise from reception was horrendous. Loud till gone 1am and then a coach party leaving at 6am. Son on first floor heard nothing!! Noise apart a good place to stay if travelling through France .

"Nice oldstyle hotel but modern"
jonlam, 10 Avril 2016

Hotel used to be a hospital until 20? years ago and room we had had high windows which let in plenty of light Has private car parking (to pay) but we found it easy to park in the square where there is free parking (no security issues) Very friendly staff at reception and check out and there is a high end restaurant attached to the hotel - we ate elsewhere Breakfast was continental style and good - cost charges extra Hotel is very central and several restaurants and historical sites are within 10 to 15 mins walk Beds comfortable good shower and accommodation very roomy Definitely a place to return to For excellant dining cannot recommend higher Le Darnetal restaurant just round the corner. . .but book first for a table!

"Beautiful and convenient"
Chris D, 06 Avril 2016

We stayed here having travelled through the tunnel on-route to south western France. Far enough to be away from the heavy traffic, but not too distant to be tiring after a day's travel across the UK. Huge room, enormous bed (easily 8 feet across-really) and lots of hot water. Breakfast was fine, more that the usual continental but not a sausage to be seen. Fantastic restaurant on site.

"Good choice"
Hampshire_Gardener, 03 Avril 2016

Central location in the historically fascinating town of Montreuil-sur-Mer, and first choice for UK members of the Wine Society, whose French warehouse is adjacent. Not a luxury hotel, but friendly staff, large and well-equipped rooms, a good bar, and an excellent breakfast. Near the Channel ports and Eurotunnel, so a very good choice for a short break or weekend away for Brits. We will certainly use it again.

"Great place in historical city"
Philippe B, 31 Mars 2016

Friendly staff, a clean room and a good restaurant in the hotel. You feel welcome the moment you enter the hotel. It offers good value for the money. As soon as we got in the hotel, we got plenty of information of what to do in and around Montreuil.

"Great place to stay"
H0lidaygirl45, 28 Mars 2016

2nd visit. Great location. 3 restaurants, a bar, and bakery close by. A short walk (10mins) from lots of restaurants & bars. Very comfortable hotel. Always cosy. Very clean. White fluffy towels in the bathroom. Worth upgrading to a comfort room, lots more space. Good breakfast. Tea & coffee and safe in room. Dog friendly. Will return.

"hotel hermitage montreuil sur mer, pas de calais, france"
platpeeps, 24 Mars 2016

We stayed here overnight as part of a weekend cross-channel trip. We had a very nice stay, the staff are all very friendly, the hotel is very clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi is great. We have stayed here on many past occasions, and this was as good as the last time. They refurbished the hotel rooms a few years ago, and they are now so lovely and bright (they were once really old-fashioned and verging on "shabby chic", but it's all much more modern now. Large rooms, tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and great bathroom facilities. We were able to use the courtyard carpark, so our car was pretty secure overnight.

"Wonderful"
lukeTonbridge, 21 Mars 2016

My girlfriend and I stayed here in October .. I had been to montreuil sur mer before but to stay in the small medieval town was brilliant ... The hotel was comfortable and cosy and the bar downstairs was run by a very jolly chap ! I do recommend this hotel to anyone staying for 1 or 2 nights ... Luke

"Great place to stay"
Martyn C, 08 Février 2016

Hotel is fantastic we are going again staff are so helpful and friendly The rooms are large and spacious good wifi coverage throughout the hotel. The building is old but well looked after there is a good safe carpark/ bike park at the rear with locked gates.

"Pleasant Stay, Clean & Friendly"
OneZeroBravo, 30 Janvier 2016

A pleasant one night stay for an event in the hotel. The hotel is clean and the staff every friendly and helpful. The accommodation is showing its age a little but has all the right ingredients for a short stay, car parking, rooms are a good size with great wifi and multi-channel TV (including BBC World and Sky News).

"Useful but ultimately unlovable"
patrickm123, 27 Janvier 2016

The hotel has a good central location, with a good-sized carpark at the back. Our twin room was in fact a very spacious triple. On the first floor, it looked over the front garden and main entrance, but the two large windows were placed unusually high up the wall and we immediately thought that it gave the room an oddly hospital-like air. (That in fact turned out to be the former use of the building.) There was nothing exactly wrong with the room – the beds were comfortable, the bathroom was well-equipped… It just lacked any “soul” or indeed “wow factor”. Wifi fine, ditto tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was also fine but unremarkable. A convenient place to return to and not expensive, but not one that where a repeat reservation will greatly gladden the heart either. I hesitated between 3 and 4 stars but settled on 4, as the acid test was "will I go back?" and the answers is probably "yes".

"Great Weekend"
Tracy S, 18 Janvier 2016

Hotel Hermitage was picked randomly for a weekend in France for 11 people. We arrived and checked in and were immediately advised by the desk clerk that it would be difficult to get dinner reservation so late in the day. He then offered to call around the local restaurants for us to see what was available. He did this within 30 mins of arrival and gave us a choice of 3 places. We took his recommendation and I have to say it was a fabulous little place called Les Ramparts, the staff were obviously not used to such a big party at such short notice, but they handled it fantastically. A great night was had by all, great food, service and atmosphere. The hotel was clean, friendly and central to all the amenities.I would recommend this hotel to anyone vising this beautiful town or area.

"Great hotel"
City_1927, 29 Décembre 2015

Really loved this hotel in what us a picturesque town (even in winter). Only thing the restaurant is quite expensive but there are plenty of good restaurants around. Apart from that great place to spend a weekend. Another plus is that it has a car park.

"Consistently Good"
TheBurgers, 27 Décembre 2015

This was our third stay at the Hotel Hermitage in as many years. We make an annual 'pilgrimage' just prior to Xmas to stock up on vino form the Wine Society and the small, but interesting, little cave (Vinophile) in Montreuil. The hotel is convenient, being located in the centre of town and right next door to the Wine Society. The rooms, whilst basic, are large enough, have a flat screen TV and were very clean with a comfy bed. We booked direct and it was 79 Euros / night for a double which included a cold buffet breakfast (but you can cook yourself a boiled egg) so very good value for money. Having said that they charged us this year for parking (or Insurance !) which I thought was a bit of a con at 10 Euros for one night. The bar is cosy enough and the service was very good. We decided to eat out again this year and tried Le Darnetal which was excellent and i would be happy to recommend it. A nice hotel which is exactly what we are after for our one night in Montreuil and I expect to return in 2016.

"Another happy visit"
Mick S, 15 Décembre 2015

Third visit to this hotel with friends for a stock up of Wine Society plonk. Again would happily recommend . Rooms comfortable and clean , bar cosy and welcoming , breakfast plentiful and enjoyed. Will use again. Also can recommend Montreuil as a place to visit as its 45 mins from the tunnel, has plenty of vg restaurants and plenty of strolling opportunities up on the ramparts. If you like your wine it also has two very good wine shops and the Wine Society outlet.

"Fairly standard hotel"
Pipehitter, 12 Décembre 2015

We went to the wine Society Christmas dinner here and stayed over for two nights. The hotel is fine, nothing special. The room we stayed in was of a decent sizeand had a comfortable bed. It's just not that exciting though. The breakfast was fine but again not very exciting. Just a bit of cheese and ham. I think you could probably find a better place to stay here. The dinner was amazing but then that is more to do with the wine society than the hotel.

"Grand hotel"
Christine D, 09 Décembre 2015

Stayed here for a night on the way back to Calais. Very convenient to stock up on wine society deals and secure car parking, free for members. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast the normal buffet fare. Coffee was a bit naff, but that's my only complaint! The in house restaurant was not open, but the very helpful receptionist made several recommendations and we were very happy with our final choice. Would stay here again as it is easy access, comfortable and decent value.

"Mr Cohen carshalton"
Norbert C, 20 Novembre 2015

Excellent hotel with great staff.Danny at the reception was courteous a day helpful. The barman was a very competent. In one word every I was fine and I spent an excellent night.I recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Good Hotel"
byMARCO70, 14 Novembre 2015

Big Room with a bathtub everything was clean. Good bed i slept very well. Breakfast is good with enough choices of bread or other nice food. Bar in the evening is nice and the staff is fast and friendly

"An absolute must-stay hotel"
Richard M, 10 Novembre 2015

The staff is absolutely outstanding! The hotel is a gem. it's location is ideal (bit difficult to find the parking with one-way streets). There are great restaurants locally and EVERYTHING is within walking distance. Also, it's not that far from the beaches. HIGHLY recommended

"Friendly, comfortable, and well located"
Trevor T, 08 Novembre 2015

The Hermitage Hotel is a rather grand looking hotel located in the centre of the town and provides an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. The staff were friendly and efficient - Eric in the bar is a character who made us feel welcome from the start. Our standard room was quite large, clean, tidy and with good storage. There was no noise from other rooms of from the outside. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom too was well proportioned. Breakfast offered a wide selection of options from the classic continental 'meats and cheese', to cereals, boiled eggs (cold or hot), croissants and bread. There was no 'Full English' but then this is Montreal not Manchester. Plenty of car parking space and the best place to stay if visiting the Wine Society. Wine Soc members receive a discount on the hotel bill. Thoroughly recommended.

"A wonderfully quirky character filled hotel"
Jo P, 08 Novembre 2015

We enjoyed our brief stay at this wonderfully placed hotel. It has so much character , both in staff and the actual building . It was a wonderfully relaxing stay , very clean and comfortable room . Breakfast was extremely good value and we were only sorry to have arrived too late to dine in the restaurant . We look forward to our next visit . Thank you .

"It could be better"
hishmoh, 05 Novembre 2015

This hotel was booked for us by our company, for our semi annual meeting which were held in a nearby town. The hotel rooms are not bad, and the cleanness could be better. The staff were very friendly, and helpful as they could. The only problem I got is that the heater was not working in my room, and i told them to fix it be they just kept saying they had informed the maintenance and it will be fixed soon. fortunately it wasn't that cold in the end of oktober. Do I recommend this hotel, for a short term it's okay!

"Traditional hotel in a lovely town"
deddy_11, 31 Octobre 2015

This hotel is recommended by the wine society and is really handy when you are using their shop which shares one of the car parks. Rooms are clean and roomy. The bar warm and welcoming. Breakfast is more than adequate. The Anecdote restaurant shares the site and is a separate business which rents the space. Not impressed by the antics of the owners of the restaurant which I explain in my review.

"Quick visit to pick up some wine from The Wine Society Shop"
Tyneyb, 27 Octobre 2015

Room was at the rear of the hotel post industrial proportions as was bathroom - functional and neutral colours and overlooking the secure parking. The room was quiet as it was set back from the corridor. Breakfast was continental, plentiful and good.

"50TH BIRTHDAY BASH"
SimonHILTON1966, 27 Octobre 2015

Went with six friends over Agincourt weekend to celebrate friend's half century.Lovely building in lovely square with easy parking.Staff very helpful, hard working, courteous and fun.Great funky bar with very comfy armchairs and a large tv(watching rugby) which stayed open till late.Rooms spacious, clean with large bathrooms and a quite grand staircase.Everyone was very impressed and a twin room with brekkie worked out at about £50 each.Real good value for such an impressive hotel.Thoroughly recommended.

"Great hotel. Very comfy. Superb location"
TOMMYTAYLOR56, 26 Octobre 2015

Visited the region, as a group of 4 gents, to visit War graves in the area and very importantly, to see the 600th Agincourt anniversary. The hotel was originally a hospital. It's a lovely building, in a great location. Parking easy. Spacious rooms inc large bathroom. Very comfortable beds. Good quality bedding and towels. Very reasonable price, as such cannot be faulted. Didn't try the restaurant. Room only, so cannot comment on the food. Friendly staff. All in all an excellent enjoyable stay. Highly recommended

"Third visit... Home from home"
gah1963, 19 Octobre 2015

A bit deja vu, having visited twice before. Nothing changes, but that's not a bad thing. Good size rooms. Good staff. Good breakfast. Good location in a great little town with a wide choice of restaurants & bars.

"Delightful pre-Calais stopover"
Anndi100, 10 Octobre 2015

A great location in the charming town of Montreuil, on the way to or from Calais. Imposing frontage, good parking, excellent restaurants in town just steps away. An exceptionally huge and comfortable bed in a very large, updated room. Perfect for overnight stay, and probably longer. A pretty good breakfast. Will stay again.

"Good value friendly hotel"
tellygoon, 05 Octobre 2015

Stayed here many times and it is always comfortable and welcoming. Very good value for money although the breakfasts are dwindling in content. Rooms are quirky and vary in size but always spacious. Beds very comfortable.

"Soulless chain hotel in attractive town"
André l'Anglais, 22 Septembre 2015

The hotel is in a superficially imposing building and well situated overlooking a quiet square close to the centre of this attractive town. Free street parking is not a problem but a secure car park is available if required. The reception staff were all polite and efficient and when we were silly enough to leave something in our room, they were helpful in retaining it until we could collect it at the end of our holiday. The room was clean & comfortable and offered fair value but the windows were overlooked and couldn't easily be left open at night. The drain in the bath didn't work very well and there was evidence of earlier flood damage in the bathroom. The breakfast was a typical self service continental offering but was unappealingly displayed over three sides of the rather soulless room. When we arrived for breakfast the sole waitress in the otherwise empty room completely ignored us. A word of welcome and an effort to show us where things were would have made all the difference. In summary, it is a typical rather soulless chain hotel that has the potential to be much better with better management.

"Great location - quiet rooms"
LDSmidget, 22 Septembre 2015

This hotel, although a bit dated, is in an ideal location to visit Montreuil. The entrance is grand with automatic opening doors ,the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious as is the bathroom and the beds are large and comfortable. There was ample parking outside the hotel. The main square is a short walk away as are the Remparts which must be walked ...on a sunny day ....as the views are superb. We regularly take Week End breaks around Montreuil and would have no issues in recommending this hotel.

"Another excellent week at this superb hotel"
VeteranDen, 20 Septembre 2015

If ever you need a hotel set within a beautiful town, with easy access to many lovely countryside locations to visit you must stay at Le Hermitage Hotel in Monteuil, it is a Best Western Hotel and provides an excellent place to stay. The staff are helpful, efficient at their job and the bar is particularly friendly. Eric the barman is a superb host and at all times makes the stay very enjoyable.

"Spacious"
AmsterdamParispr, 18 Septembre 2015

In the heart of one of our favorite stopover towns, this hotel is a spacious building with a spacious lobby where we enjoyed a spacious (bath)-room, and an especially spacious bed! This pleasant oldy-worldly hotel could give you an anonymous stay in this nice little North-French historical out-of-coast town; with a completely different feel from the coastal area. Nice walks and views.

"Nice hotel,roons a bit dated"
Gill R, 17 Septembre 2015

We have stayed at this hotel a couple of time reasonably priced, reception quite impressive, staff very friendly, rooms clean and bed very comfortable but a bit dated. Wi fi free and good in room. Parking free if you are a member of The Wine Society

"Excellent stay for 10 friends"
judyarmson, 11 Septembre 2015

A group of us stayed for 6 nights and we all loved it. Excellent large rooms with all facilities. Enormous beds, amble wardrobes, hair dryer, coffee and tea. Security safe and Wifi. Eric was a brilliant bar manager who entertained us with his frivolity. All staff were good and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent with a vast choice and I would say the best I have every had in a hotel. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and had champagne in the bar. Would highly recommend

"Traditional Hotel"
Jean H, 07 Septembre 2015

A nice hotel in a great position in a lovely little town. The hotel is very nice although a little tired, not cheap. Good size room & bed, very clean linen but why do hotels insist on having thick heavy quilts even in the summer!. I agree with some of the other reviews in that the breakfast (apart from one lady) was very casually dressed for such a traditional hotel. There are lots of restaurants in town, mainly fairly pricey, we found one down a street off the town square called La Pause Gourmande, it wasn't expensive and the food was fantastic, we will definitely be visiting again.

"Just perfect"
SebastienHouze, 01 Septembre 2015

One of these old and prestigious hotels but everything was perfect: service, quality, location. Sense of tradition and sense of modern service. The restaurant, Anecdote is for sure worth it. To be recommanded!

"Comfortable hotel - just a couple of quibbles"
Catherine_Barr, 30 Août 2015

With wide corridors and gracious, tall windows, this hotel shows its heritage as a medical establishment. To this day it offers unusual access for those in wheelchairs, and is very comfortable with excellent bathrooms. The staff are, for the most part, welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is excellent and there's a friendly bar. Two things, though: before you unpack, check your Internet access. Although the hotel claims to have wifi throughout, I had no access in my room during a recent two-day visit, although I had had no problems on a previous stay. And if, like me, you are allergic to noise, you may have difficulty. Music is piped throughout all public spaces; for some reason it seems to be loudest in the mornings. The bar often contributes its own music, and if you're really unfortunate you can find yourself between two competing genres, with sports on the TV added to the mix. A bit like an American airport lounge. The only places I found to escape are the attractive tables outside, and the bar area during the day. This hotel offers great access to all the attractions around Montreuil and is popular with golfers and members of the Wine Society (who get a discount and free parking and breakfast).

"Overpriced"
Conqueror17, 27 Août 2015

A very comfortable room in a traditional French building let down by a lot of things. Advertised restaurant closed on a Thursday; advertised spa facility fully booked; dirty plate in our corridor still there when we left the next morning. Sign that management are not walking the corridor. Staff were very casually dressed and that was a reflection of the whole place. They did give me a first. The first breakfast I have ever had in France with no croissants. Better management would take this back up a level.

"Hmmm, it's starting to look a bit shabby."
hobbes3469, 25 Août 2015

Having stayed in this hotel on many occasions in the past 10 years or so I have to admit that the place is starting to look slightly faded and dare I say grubby. The benefit is the location and availability of parking, but I have noticed a downward trend in terms of the overall standards in the hotel and presentation of some of the staff - it is getting more difficult to tell who works there as all the staff seem to wear their own choice of clothes and not always a badge to identify them. English is spoken if you need it and I must say the place is very popular with Brits, which can make the bar area fairly loud by French standards, but they do have a wonderful range of drinks available, including good cocktails (just don't order Pimms as it contains tinned fruit cocktail!!) On this occasion we booked a 'comfort' double room, we were given 203 on the second floor which is a large room with a spacious bathroom and separate loo, both of which were very clean, but as others have referred to, things like grouting, pipes etc could do with a bit of touching up. In the main room the bed was fairly low down, and was 2 twins pushed together and made up as a double, however the base sheet didn't actually fit under the mattress and ended up a very sorry, wrinkled affair in the morning. One of the side light bulbs wasn't working, but everything else was fine, including the hospitality tea and coffee tray. The large built in cupboard was a little grubby and the handle part had lots of paint chips and marks on it - I actually wiped the shelves down with a tissue before we used them as there were a few clear marks on them. The carpet too has seen better days - lots of marks, especially around the desk area - look like they have been made with cleaning products rather than dirt, but the overall effect is 'tatty'. This room also had a large window with a top vent, which didn't open and roman style blinds as sun shades as well as the curtains. The blinds had truly filthy marks above where the air vents are on the windows. Plus, there were bats swooping around the corridors.....I'm not kidding, on several occasions I saw one flying around, once in the lobby, once up on the second floor area and again in a corridor off the main area. On check out I was rather rudely informed that I could not receive points on my Best Western loyalty card as I had not booked using their booking system - this is news to me and since we stayed at this same hotel 2 weeks earlier and were not told this information I am not sure of the validity of it - I shall be enquiring with B Western, but it was the attitude of the lady on reception that frustrated me, and when I asked how long this new system had been in place and explained that we had stayed there very recently and not encountered an issue (in French as I speak it pretty well) she said that she would take the points card number down. This is an increasingly tired hotel which is starting to seem like poor value for money compared to the experience and quality of a few years ago. There are far cheaper and better value places which I shall probably use in future.

"Comfortable and central"
Martin M, 25 Août 2015

We've stayed here twice this summer, once with friends and once on our own and we'll certainly come back. On the first occasion we booked a 'Supreme' room and last week we had Standard. Although both room and bed were bigger, I didn't consider the difference to be worth the price differential and I'll book Standard in future. This is a well equipped centrally located hotel that had everything we needed and we found the staff friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is decent and the bar's ok. The Wine Society shop next door is very convenient if you're a member.

"Excellent hotel in a lovely town"
Propajob, 25 Août 2015

My wife and I wanted somewhere for an overnight stay en route to the Calais Euro-tunnel crossing from the Loire Valley. The town of Montreuil sounding interesting with the BW Hotel Hermitage looking like a good option so we joined BW and booked one night. The hotel was excellent, though access to the car park was not obvious to find, until the reception staff re-directed me. Our room was huge, almost the size of a suite with a enormous very comfortable bed. We took the option of an express breakfast in the morning which was very good value. The town of Monteuil also did not disappoint, with an excellent range of restaurants and several historic sights to check out, so all in all this was great way to round off our France trip before heading back to the UK.

"Ideal centre for a short break"
Michael T, 25 Août 2015

Easy parking (free on street and secure parking for a fee at back of hotel). Hotel is close to the Citadelle and the ramparts. Excellent base for Baie de Somme area and easy access to Le Crotoy and Le Touquet and the Somme, Authie and Canche valleys. Easy access to Boulogne and Cite Europe for shopping. The Wine Society is on the hotel site.

"Recommended hotel in N France"

Spacious and friendly hotel in a lovely town in Northern France. We have stayed here on many occasions and never been disappointed. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby but very quiet in the hotel!!!

"An excellent hotel for a short break"
Joan014, 22 Février 2015

Over the last 10 or more years we have stayed frequently at the Hermitage. We have always found the personnel - particularly at reception - to be most friendly and helpful. The hotel has always been clean and comfortable and the breakfast well organised and the food of good quality. We have not yet tried the new restaurant but we were not impressed by the previous one which we found to be rather pricey and pretentious and unable to compete with the several excellent restaurants in the town.

"Convenient and good value"

Spent a night here while visiting the Wine Society. Very friendly and helpful staff and the room was large and comfortable. Huge bathroom and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was good quality although limited hot food. I booked on the Best Western site and got a rate including free breakfast. I would certainly stay here again. Excellent position, with free parking outside and 5 mins walk to shops/restaurants/remparts for a walk with great views.

"Excellent hotel in a good location"
Jompa S, 20 Septembre 2014

We stayed four nights at Hermitage and spent the days touring this part of France. The hotel is a converted hospital run in the past by Nuns and adjoins the chapel. It has high ceilings and wide corridors, which gives it a spacious feeling. The staff were very friendly and helpful which made us feel at home from the start. The on-site parking was very good. Montreuil is an interesting place to visit with its old houses and surrounding walls. There are also many good restaurants within walking distance as well the hotel's own where we enjoyed one excellent meal.

"A pleasant surprise!"
Richard P, 17 Septembre 2014

To park at a busy hotel with ease and then find a large clean room overlooking the town was a pleasant surprise! The hotel was centrally located, easily accessible and unexpected in such a busy town. Breakfast and service were just what a traveller would expect. No fuss and no rush with very accommodating staff as a bonus.

"Perfect as always"

great hotel in a very historic town a great location with a large selection of good restaurants near by and lots to see in the area , a good breakfast is available although a little pricy as is the parking charge, all in all highly recommended.

"The Emson's"
Emson, 26 Juin 2014

We have stayed at the Hotel Hermitage on many occasions now and cannot fault this hotel or staff in any way. We will most certainly be returning and would highly recommend the Hermitage for an extremely pleasant stay. The hotel is within easy walking distance of some really nice bars/restaurants. We just love Montreuil sur Mer.
