"Great Hotel"

Great hotel, close enough to LA, we stayed here for two nights and have to say it had everything we needed, rooms were clean and comfy, breakfast was nice and the staff lovely! It's about 45mins to all the sights (depending on traffic) but for us this was just perfect, we would def stay again

"Family vacation"

The place looks old from the outside. The rooms are clean and our two queen size bed was good. The price is also good for the room we had. Easy highway access and places to shop. People who works there are very friendly

"Great location & value in LA's 2nd Chinatown-Monterey Park"

We stayed here when my family came to celebrate my father's 101th birthday. The price for Markland is reasonable. It is in the heart of Monterey Park with all the wonderful Chinese restaurants but the location is not right in the middle of hustle and bustle. The manager was very kind to allow us to use the breakfast room for a mini-birthday party for my dad in the afternoon. They placed our room close enough to each other. We definitely was very happy with our stay.

"Nice place"

It's a nice place to stay, staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could be improved and the rooms where a bit dark. But it is a really good budget friendly option. We had a bit of trouble working the shower but it was not a big deal.

"No Amenities!"

Booked this hotel to be close to a relative going to college and because there was a whirlpool. When we arrived whirlpool was locked and sign on door said closed by the state of California. We were planning on staying 2 nights but when front desk said they could not reduce the nightly rate because they did not close the whirlpool the state did this she could not offer a reduction in rate. Also we stayed on 1st floor and there is a steep ramp to the rooms, traveling with a 92 yr old made it difficult. Room was very clean but access to a small porch which had a screen door just played against the sliding door needed attention. Breakfast was wonderful and they had 2 staff members monitoring it

"Not Terrible, But Definitely Would Not Recommend"

First of this place has one of the best breakfasts I ever had at a hotel. As well as very comfortable beds/pillows. But this was an uncomfortable stay overall, the man who checked us in was kind of rude. We ended up on the third floor, which smelled like a sewage leak or something. And we found little black bugs in our bathtub. The front desk clerk offered to move us, but then said she didn't have any other rooms available to move us to. So she sent housekeeping to clean it, but the following day more bugs appeared in the tub. I'm assuming they were crawling up from the drain.

"LA trip"

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was great. The staff was awesome. The breakfast selection was amazing. It is nice to have the parking underground because then your car isn't baking under the Cali sun. It is a little bit of a distance from LA itself but actually it was good because then prices aren't so high. It is near the freeway so you can definitely hear the noise but we were able to tune it out because our day was filled with activities therefore by the time we got back to the hotel we were super tired. The overall experience in this hotel was great. I would definitely recommend and stay here again.

"Great Hotel"

Great hotel for the price. Clean, larger than average room, on-site parking garage, good breakfast, friendly staff. The tub had jets! Location is great--there is a Walmart right down the road, major highways less than 5 minutes away. They also keep a handy book in your room with all of the available restaurants (including delivery options), entertainment, and more, with phone numbers. Great experience.

"Value for money hotel in Monterey Park! "

I stayed here with my family for one night in Apil 2018 and overall had a very good experience! Positives- 1- the room was very clean, big enough and had all the facilities expected 2- convenient location within 15 minutes of downtown LA 3- extremely value for money at the prices listed 4- staff very polite and helpful 5- excellent breakfast options 6- the neighbourhood is very safe and has good options for dining and shopping Negatives 1- the nearest restaurants or shops are at least half a mile away so you'll need a car to get around (but that is just the story in just about every place in LA) Will definitely consider staying here when I return to LA!

"Good for the money but will not book again."

- Great check-in. - Nice room for the price. - Great parking free and reasonably safe. - Not in getto neighborhood. - Very loud pub restaurant in the front terrible local rednecks party location on Saturday nights. Not able to sleep. Would not book again.

Dear Lorelai S, Thank you for leaving a review of your stay with us. It seems that you did enjoy your overall stay with us, but that the restaurant next door and its patrons are the cause for the negative score. I am sorry that they would detract you for staying with us in the future. I would like to mention that we are working with the management of the restaurant to try and mitigate the carry-over from the restaurant so that it does not disturb our guests. It is a difficult balance to strike, and we both are running very different types of hospitality businesses. Additionally, there is a positive to the effect that our guests do get to enjoy fresh hot food, literally seconds away from our front doors, and can enjoy a beer or entertainment that they provide. I hope that you will consider giving us another opportunity in the future. Sincerely, Danton Lam General Manager Best Western Markland Hotel

"My cuzins bday. "

Was here celebrating my cuzins bday and i must it was awesome. Remebwr karokee on sundays. Itz a nice place thats right next too the hotel. I believe la chicala. Go check it out. Dance the night away. Good drink specials i must say.

"If you want your room left unlocked by housekeeping go here"

Just got back from a stay at this hotel! It was awful! First off the first pictures show a jacuzzi which was out of order the entire stay. Ok, so no big deal....but we checked in late on a Thurs. I was staying with my mom and daughter. Friday morning I took my daughter down to get breakfast and my mom discovered that the door didn't lock behind me. She messed with it and got it to lock. She informed the front desk and we left for the day at 8 am. We did not return until 11 pm and when we did our door had been left unlocked since the maid service had been there. Obviously we were not happy so my mom went to the front desk and they sent maintenance to fix it. They messed with it but it wasn't fixed all of the way so we basically couldn't use maid service while we were there. They gave us some song and dance about no refund since we had prepaid. The trip was in celebration of my daughter's birthday so I didn't mess with anything at the time. I have since attempted to call the manager and have not been able to talk to him. I'm super upset and don't think anyone should stay there!!!

"Fam trip"

Stayed here for a family trip. Convenient location and reasonable price. Great breakfast and comfy beds. Terrible shower and bathroom needs attention. Good sized rooms with garage parking. We will be back

"Avoid room 303 - tiny room"

Service was great and check-in was smooth. I was impressed by the breakfast for a Best Western - eggs, sausage, make your own Belgium waffles, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc. price was reasonable. There's a mall and Costco nearby, but almost nothing in walking distance. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something cheap and clean.

"A nested quiet stay "

We reserved at this Best Western since we were still doing the touristy thing in L. A. When I checked it, I qas greeted by Bobbi who was very friendly and helpful. She explained wifi info, breakfast times and pretty much covered everything without me having to ask. I like upon observation of the hotel, that the maids were cleaning the parking garage, surrounding quarters and overall made the difference in maintaining the upkeep of the hotel. When we arrived at our room 118 the room was cozy and inviting. We decided to plop our the beds and turn on the tube to watch shows. The bed and pillows are comfy for my liking. We had a balcony area but I do not think you can open and lodge for a moment. The only downfall was that the indoor hot tub was closed and I was hoping to take advantage of it. The room as quiet and the room temperature was good as well. Next day we rise and like the fact that they switch the hot breakfast menu daily which is nice. Bobbi was overall great as well as the rest of the hotel cleaning crew. Would definitely stay here again if needing to.

"Visit Family"

I love this hotel this is my favorite place for to stay when we visit family. They save my favorite room for me anytime we come. They have a little breakfast in the morning. They have coffee and tea and water in the office 24hours. Dan is great i try to talk to him and a few others for making my reservations or checking in. I like being on the 3rd floor. The parking lot is under ground. They only take cars under 6feet. if you are taller you need to park on street.

"Great breakfast!"

The hotel was under renovation but headed in the right direction. The floors need to be replaced badly but everything else was nice. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. The internet worked well. Ample parking and easy access to the freeway. The very best part of our stay was the free continental breakfast! It was AMAZING! Not your run of the mill bagels and cereal, although they had that too. Each morning there were 3 hot selections.. they were different each day and DELICIOUS! They also offered cereals, pastries, waffle station, and instant breakfasts to choose from. The ladies that served the breakfast did not stop moving.. they were awesome. The food was amazing and everything was kept well-stocked and remarkably clean. Great job! We would definitely stay here again.

"Markland BW in Monterey Park"

Markland BW is an average hotel located in an awkward location with terrible entrance to the front of the hotel. It is so closer to the intersection, it is easy to cause accident. The sign of the hotel is not visible until you get to the intersection and you try to turn into the hotel property.

"Comfortable Stay"

The room and bed was nicely kept and comfortable. The eggs at breakfast were "fake" with bits of spam- not good. However the pumpkin spice waffle was excellent. The dining room was nice and plenty of room for guests, even with a large group that were visiting from out of the country.

"Restful stay"

I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is doing business in the downtown LA area or anywhere around the LA area. the staff was awesome very professional and courteous and they went above and beyond their duties. if you want to go there just to relax I recommend this place also because they have an indoor Spa and a indoor gym and it's close to grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants around the area in a mile to 10 miles radius. also the beds are nice and comfortable, clean and affordable. They did this in the bathroom with some of the towels. we thought it was pretty cool the way he did it.

"Clean, spacious and good breakfast!"

I loved the hot breakfast. The bathtub was huge and the room is a great size. There were lots of pillows and different firmness on each of them. The hotel staff was very inviting. The hotel is just off the freeway, making it a great location.

As soon as we opened our hotel room it stunk sooooo bad like a combination of flatulence & old smell! We saw a roach in the bathroom & we LEFT!! It felt so gross to be there! No way we were gonna eat breakfast there!

BWMarkland, General Manager at Best Western Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Susana N, I am sincerely sorry that your experience with your short visit with us was bad. We have a very regular preventative pest control schedule with a vetted pest control company. However, there is current major construction projects occurring next to our property, and they are causing quite a disturbance that is out of our control. We have revisited our current preventative schedule and adjusted to attempt to combat any additional problems that may arise, but we cannot predict what will occur with these projects within our vicinity. I thank you for giving us an opportunity though, and hope that you will reconsider once these projects have settled down. Sincerely, Danton Lam General Manager Best Western Markland Hotel

"Clean and good breakfast"

Enjoy to stay this place and will return next time. Good breakfast selections and good items to select also Bed is too soft for me, but okay with other my family member. The curtain has a lot of water mark on it, would be nice to clean it sometime.

"near the local bus route and friendly staff"

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and staff were very helpful, I really enjoyed my week in LA and the hotel had everything I needed. It was clean and the bed was comfortable, what more do you need.

"Friendly Staff, Good Rate"

Best Western Markland is the only hotel in this area that offers a very reasonable rate with a full complimentary of an average hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is convenience. It's easy to access to highway and a short distance to a shopping strip.

"Great stay here! Definitely recommend!"

This is a great place to stay! We were there for 6 nights and were very happy with our time there. The hotel is very clean (they even mopped the attached parking garage daily!) and we loved the free breakfast they had there each morning from 6-10am. Usually it was scrambled eggs (sometimes with peppers, sometimes plain and once with sausage), a meat option - bacon always was gone by 9am and would then switch to sausage, cheesy potatoes and hard boiled eggs. Of course there was pastries, toast, make your own waffles, cereal, etc. it was really good every day. The women that ran that room were very quick to keep it clean. Front desk staff were easy to talk to if we had a question, efficient at the check in and out processes and overall very helpful. We used the hot tub several times (it was too hot for me and sometimes had a weird smell which was maybe from the heat or chemicals), but again was kept very clean. They have an exercise room, which we didn't use but saw them cleaning many times when we were on our way out. Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel, the staff, cleanliness and value for our money. Spent $600 for 6 nights/7 days.

"Clean, friendly, convenient"

I enjoyed 2 weeks here 14 to 28 October, very clean room, lovely breakfast, friendly staff. Me and my girlfriend will return next year, thanks to the girl on reception for helping most nights with directions.

"Markland - Friendly staff"

Construction behind the hotel makes the experience trying, however the staff are excellent. The room is average. The location was center of our activities and easy access to the freeway made our experience excellent The breakfast is exceptional and the staff were friendly and outstandingly helpful.

I liked the closeness to Hollywood and the hotel staff was very accommodating. The room and amenities were great. I especially liked breakfast.b They had a full breakfast every morning. I enjoyed the hot tub.

"Best stay"

It was fun I always had a clean room to come back to. breakfast was yummy! The staff was great checking in and checking out universal studios was near by so we didn't gave to go far I'm going to recommend this hotel to everyone.

"Good Place"

All employees are treated very kindly. Breakfast is served easy-to-eat. But there is a little bit of distance in the middle of the street, a little bit of facility, and it feels old. It is a good place to receive a quiet and friendly service.

"EXCELLENT FRONT DESK STAFF & Great Overall Experience"

The following is a very detailed review of the hotel. We had two rooms at this hotel and enjoyed our visit. Our party requested remodeled rooms and were placed on the third floor. PROS: Love, love, love front desk staff (Jazmine and others – better than high end employees) Clean and comfortable Nice size rooms Extended size mini refrigerator Nice Breakfast Options Ample Free Parking Vending Machines for Drinks and Snacks Fitness Center open 24 hours Easy to find off the freeway Onsite Restaurant Value of Price for room and amenities is excellent CONS: If you are sensitive to sound, you can hear freeway from most of the rooms You can hear noise from neighboring rooms and hallway Complimentary Breakfast served daily from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. This includes waffle station, 4 ounce yogurt, dry cereal, hot oatmeal and toppings, hard boiled eggs, coffee, tea and hot chocolate, juice (apple juice, passion orange guava, cranberry and orange juice), scrambled eggs, sausage (patty and link) seasoned potatoes with cheese, hard boiled eggs, Danish and muffin options, toast, croissants and bagel options and whole fruit. I would definitely return here, as the price of rooms in comparison to others in the Los Angeles area is quite reasonable.

"Room is big and clean. But the sound insulation is very bad"

Room is big and clean. The bed is comfortable. Staff who helped us check-in is polite and helpful. However, since the room is situated on lobby floor facing the restaurant, , privacy is not enough and the sound insulation is very bad, can hear people walking outside and upstairs. Very disturbing during sleeping.

"Not so good anymore."

Spent 3 nights at this hotel. Staff very accommodating & friendly, however hotel itself is in need of some TLC. I went to have a bath & discovered a few things completely unacceptable to me. There is a lot of paint chips, tub in serious need of reglazing, walls are paper-thin & u can hear people in next room very clearly. We were put in a room right beside the ice machine which was extremely loud in the morning when people we're getting ice. I'm not sure if it was staff, but it was every morning around the same time. Requested upper floor but ended up on the 2nd floor & awoken every morning by people walking around above us. Overall this trip wasn't the greatest. I don't think I slept much. Not sure will return to this location. Not worth the 120.00 a night we paid.

BWMarkland, General Manager at Best Western Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Barendina S, I appreciate you taking the time to leave a review of your stay. I am sorry that your experiences with our hotel were not the best that we could offer. I am also sorry that we were unable to provide you with a room on the top floor. We always try our best to accommodate our guest's requests, however, from time to time it is difficult for one reason or another. We are in fact undergoing extensive renovations throughout the entire hotel. Our renovations are aimed at repairing deficiencies left by previously improper or rushed repairs, lack of care, or general wear and tear. I am also working towards bringing a new, modern, and vibrant feel to the hotel through our renovations. Due to the substantial scale of the renovations, we have broken up many of the renovations into smaller, more manageable projects for various reasons. One of the benefits of this is to reduce the impact it has on our guests during their stays with us, and to keep them as transparent as possible. We have completed a great many of these renovations, many of which our guests are already enjoying. However, this is not to say that we are finished with them. I thank our guests for their patience with us during this growing period, and hope that you will consider giving us another opportunity once we have completed our renovations. Sincerely, Danton Lam General Manager

"Property a little run down, beds are comfortable, ok for the price!"

The property was under repair or remodel and kind of messy on the outside. The price is very reasonable. There were ants around the small refrigerator and we did mention it to the clerk upon check out.

"Clean and Friendly staff"

Hotel is very clean, older but nice. Staff is always extremely nice and helpful. When I travel to Los Angeles, CA for business I am working downtown and this location is very convenient. Also, the location to the mall and good food makes it a very desirable hotel for me to stay.

"Perfect Hotel for Business"

Was everything I needed for a business trip. Loved the living space in the room for working and the powerful WiFi made it easy to get work done. Even made it down to the hot tub for a long soak after my day of work. Not a lot of restaurants close to the hotel, but I used the "Door Dash" app recommended by the font desk and I got a great meal delivered in about 45 minutes.

"Budget Accommodation, Tired Hotel."

For sure, fantastic proximity to downtown Los Angeles. Great parking. Some staff are friendly but majority basically gave the cold shoulder. There was a young lady at the front desk whose name I can't quite remember, but she was Fantastic!!! Great service from her. She only works the morning shift. Literally next door to a petrol station, Walmart is no more than a 6 to 8 minute drive Northbound of the hotel. Not very family oriented and safety is of grave concern as it pertains to kids. Hotel literally siting on a main road. If kids get away from parents, they can run directly on that road towards the front of the hotel. My room I was told would have been an upgraded room because it was recently renovated but if that was renovated, I don't want to see the unrenovated rooms. Found German roaches in my bath room. The hotel was actually in the middle of renovations when we got there. You could see the yellow caution tape blocking off certain areas of the hotel. Quite disappointing for a California hotel. Feels like somewhere a truck driver would stay after being on the road for over 18hrs. The buffet breakfast was ok, I must admit that. Not much of a variety though. Sitting area for breakfast...way too small. My mom and I on the first day had to wait for persons to finish having breakfast for us to dine. And too make it worst, if you are late by a minute for breakfast, you're locked out!!! Yes they literally lock the breakfast area. Not going to return there...sadly and not going to recommend

"Stay away from this hotel"

We arrived at 11:30PM and couldn't find parking. There is a pub in front of the hotel and was very loud. The staff at the hotel told me that guests in that pub took most of the parking spots so we had to park at the gas station next door. They will move our car once there is parking spots available. This is very distracting especially we are all very tired. The room was not clean. The sheet in bed is almost black color and quite disgusting. Another annoying thing is that the air conditioner in room is very loud and we didn't get good sleep.

BWMarkland, General Manager at Best Western Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Xiaoyan C, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us. I am sorry that we were unable to provide you with an excellent experience. You are correct that there is a restaurant and bar across from our hotel's lobby. Occasionally, they host events that have a large draw and that many attend. When this happens, our limited garage parking can get a little over crowded. I do work with the restaurant's owner and managers to try to mitigate the impact, but sometimes it can be difficult due to the physical limitations of the building and space. Thankfully, this is not a regular issue, and only happens on occasion. I regret that it was something that caused a disturbance during your stay with us. I understand how frustrating it can be, especially when arriving late after a days traveling. Additionally, I wanted to address the sheets you mentioned. We only have white sheets, duvet covers, and pillow cases throughout the hotel. Among other things, this affords us the ability to use bleach when laundering our bedding. We replace the bedding in our guest rooms each day with freshly washed/laundered bedding, with only a few exceptions. If a guest has a Do-Not-Disturb sign on the door, we won't enter the room, and thus would not be able to replace the bedding. Or if a guest places the placard we have in our rooms to conserve water and energy to not wash the bedding, then we won't at that time either. I apologize if there were any misunderstanding with my housekeeping in regards to that. We also regularly replace worn or stained bedding to ensure they are clean and fresh. Again, I apologize for not being able to provide you with an excellent experience during your stay with us. We are still undergoing renovations throughout the hotel to bring the hotel forward and to offer our guests new amenities. I hope you will consider giving us another opportunity once we have completed these renovations. Sincerely, Danton Lam General Manager Best Western Markland Hotel

"Great value for price"

Had a good overall experience. I was really pleased with the room; it was clean and looked nice. The lobby/elevator was a bit dated but the room was great. The front entrance was blocked off because of construction so you have to enter from the underground parking which wasn't an issue. Great breakfast options and I loved the waffle machine.

"Not Good"

I was really disappointed with this hotel, its stuck in the middle of nowhere with freeways all around it, the room we had smelt of damp and the window where the shower is was disgusting and dirty, looked like it hadn't been cleaned for ages, i wish i got a photo of it, we had to ask for another room, it was so noisy on the one night we stayed in the room because of the traffic. The air con was so loud we couldn't sleep and the windows don't open at all, not that we would open the window because it would of been even louder than it was. The scenery was also crap, we saw freeways and a petrol station.

BWMarkland, General Manager at Best Western Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Karenmoore43, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with our hotel. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay with us. It saddens me to hear that your stay was so dissatisfying. We are currently still under renovations throughout the property, as we are looking to bring the entire property forward, and bring to our guests a modern and fresh feel with new amenities. These projects are time extensive however, so I do appreciate that our guests are patient with us during this growing period. Additionally, there is little we can do about where we are located. You are correct that we are located "in the middle of nowhere", however, there is only one freeway passing by us, which offers our guests easy access on/off the highway. We do not typically have guests complain about road noise from the highway as it is a bit away from us, and the highway isn't as active at night. Additionally, our location is also considered the middle of everything for those who wish to stay in one central location and travel to all the local attractions such as Downtown L.A., Hollywood, Universal, Santa Monica, Disneyland, and others, since we are approximately 30 minutes from most of those local attractions. Another thing worthy of note is that there is currently new a development of land by the City of Monterey Park very near to us (less than a quarter mile) that will be a very large shopping center. There will be many restaurants and shopping choices for our guests once they're completed. Again, I want to stress my apologies for not providing you with an exceptional experience. We always strive to offer our guests the best service and accommodations, and we were unable to do so for you. We take all of our guests' experiences, comments and opinions very seriously, and we use them to improve ourselves so other guests may not have a similar experience. Sincerely, Danton Lam General Manager Best Western Markland Hotel

"Great Place"

This place was awesome and has everything that I needed. Everyone was really helpful and kind. The breakfast was awesome and very filling and they had tons of great options of things to eat. I loved staying here and it was close to things downtown.

"A Warm welcome in Monterey Park - The 91754"

excellent hotel with a caring professional staff. Rooms were clean, the fitness room is top notch and the Jacuzzi was an added plus, or necessity, after a long day. What a pleasure. Freeway close, minutes to downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena, close to shopping and entertainment.

"Good- will be excellent once the renovations are done; close to a lot of attractions"

Good location, but the renovations lessen the esthetic of the facility. Could use a deep clean in the elevator as it had and odor. The Internet was terrible. Maybe, have basic cable but uber fast Wifi for streaming. Most peeps have tablets and smartphones, right? Nowadays, we have multiple subscriptions to steaming services. The hot breakfast was on point. The beds were comfy and the towels were soft and fluffy. The toiletries were awesome as they are eco friendly and cruelty free. If trying for eco-conscious philosophy, it would worth the investment to put dispenser in bathroom instead of the plastic travel size containers, you know? May be worth considering R&D on that point and put up signs to give guests options to opt out of washing bed linens for multiple stays to conserve H2O and energy. Overall, we would stay again.

This hotel is OK, but there were some areas under construction, the rooms after 25 will not have any air conditioning of the hallway, therefore you better stay room number from 1 to 14. Ther is no restaurant nearby this hotel you better looking for Google map for the hotel

"best experience"

I stay here exclusively when in LA. Best service and central location. They always make a great effort to make sure I have everything I need. I have a particular room which I ask for and get to help me get in and out easily.

"Great cost benefit"

This is a great hotel for its price range. We stayed there 4 times already and the staff was always very professional and customer orient. Rooms are clean and well appointed. Location is good. Far from the main attractions and downtown, but with easy access to the freeways

"Basic hotel"

This Best Western is in the middle of nowhere but it is fairly close to the freeway. The place is a bit run down. The rooms are clean but the air conditioning units are incredibly loud. The other people who are staying here are incredibly rude and inconsiderable. The best thing here is the staff. They are amazing!!

"Good improvements"

Was pleased to see that the 2nd elevator was finally fixed and back in service having been out of service for at least 2 years that we know of. The redecoration job is also completed and very nice. The only thing still needing improvement is a less firm pillow or two on the beds.

"Great place for the money"

I was impressed with this hotel. I was looking for an inexpensive place to spend one night. The place was clean, the gal at check in and out was super friendly, and the breakfast was well stocked and really made this hotel a good value.

"Staff was above and beyond ."

Wasn't Abel to get a room and Danton Lam and his staff really went out of their way to find me a room with another motel.that's why I will come back great service. Nice location and very cleanalso had great parking .Thank you Danton and your staff.

"Late check in"

Was told our room would be ready at 3, even after requesting an early check in. Our room wasn't ready until four and The room wasn't inspected. We were given keys before we were allowed to check in and just went to the room

"Very happy with my stay"

Cheap and cheerful hotel just off the Pomona freeway. About twenty minutes from downtown and about the same to Dodger stadium. Quiet even though the freeway is close by. Good size rooms and good room service. Plenty of parking underground as well. Very helpful staff. Decent wireless. The breakfast was the only thing that was a little under par. The room was too small for the amount of people and sometimes you had to wait. Other than that I have no complaints. Recommended.

"Do not miss the breakfast..."

This is a nice small hotel which was much btter than expected. Well worth the $$, nice staf and quiet location. Very comfortable and relaxing place, not an luxary 5 star hotel but decent and clean. The free breakfast was one of the best ones I have experienced. Do not miss the breakfast.

"Decent, quiet"

Decent hotel for the price. Customer service was really good, offered good breakfast. Wifi was not so good as it cut in and out. Older building but at least it was clean, not spot clean but good enough. Very close to LA, within 15-20 mins of downtown.

"Terrible service"

Terrible experience with this hotel staff. I tried to cancel after immediately booking and they wouldn't allow me to. I would not recommend dealing with this hotel. I will not stay here for my business travel.

BWMarkland, General Manager at Best Western Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear AmyQ4868YM, I am sorry that your experiences with our staff were not to your satisfaction. Please understand that our standard cancellation policy is 24 hours prior to arrival (not including special rates or deals). That essentially means that cancellations must be received 24 hours prior to the date of check-in. Any attempts to cancel after the period has passed will incur a cancellation fee. This also applies to same day reservations, or reservations booked after the cancellation window had passed, which you had booked online. During the process to book your reservation, you would have been informed, and had to acknowledge that you understand and agree to our cancellation policy, prior to confirming and booking the reservation. Without that agreement, the website would not have allowed the reservation to have been made, especially when booked for a same day stay. I do apologize if there was any confusion in regards to this. "Good location"

gas station at the corner and freeway entrance as well. friendly staffs at check in , explained offer and stuffs clearly , room is good but be aware if you drive big vehicle , basement garage height only 6' kind of scary !

"Great staff!! "

I checked into the hotel for two nights and although there was nothing wrong with my room the people in the next room were over the top noisy. After about an hour the noise was getting me down so I went to reception and asked if it were possible to move rooms. Although the hotel was full the lady on the desk still allowed us to move to another room which was perfect. She made what could have been a nightmare stay into an enjoyable stay and I was most grateful for her understanding. The hotel is clean and the parking is easy and safe.

Jacuzzi wasn't not clean there was towels sitting right in front of the elevators on the 3rd floor. And told staff about it and all they did was pick up the towels and clean jacuzzi water but not around the jacuzzi

"Below Par Service"

Not too friendly and the checkout process was the worse I've ever experienced. After waiting for front desk to answer phone thirty minutes before checkout time, of noon. I asked for a later checkout and first she said 1:00 pm than 12:30pm and after 12:30 there would be a $25 charge. Waiting in line to check out desk received a call at 12:15 and was told they already owed the $25 and would owe another night after 1. Inconsistent.

Dear Debbie3988, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us. It seems that our service to you during your time with us was not excellent, and I do greatly apologize for that. I have personally spoken with the guest service agent that assisted you during your check-out, and discussed with her our policies and regulations regarding late check-outs, and our fee's. She is still fairly new and is still adjusting to our policies. Again, I do apologize about that. If there is anything additional I or my staff can assist you with, please contact us at [email protected], or 323-887-1988, and we would be happy to assist you. "need serious upgrade"

Need serious room upgrades, peel paint in the shower tub, stained toilet, mold on sink, loose towel bar, serveral hole in wall. Good thing we only stay one night, kid was scare to use the bathroom due to poor condition, stay here a couple years back and it was a nice hotel but the quality have severely drop...

BWMarkland, General Manager at Best Western Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear 802petery, Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of your stay with us. I am sorry that your stay with us was not to your satisfaction. It was unfortunate that the room you stayed in was in such a manner. We are undergoing renovations throughout the entire property. These renovations were broken up into many projects, so they could be more easily managed and so they would be transparent to our guests, so they would not disturb our guests during their stays with us. Our renovation projects cover everything from our exterior and lobby, to our breakfast room and our guest rooms and bathrooms. There are quite extensive, and we hope to bring a modern feel to the hotel for our guests enjoyment. We are also bringing new amenities for our guests as well. Again, I apologize that your stay with us was not to your expectations, and we will continue to work on improving ourselves so our future guests may not encounter similar situations. Sincerely, Danton Lam General Manager Best Western Markland Hotel

"Affordable nice hotel"

The hotel is very nice and has great service with an affordable price. The room that we stayed in is comfortable and very clean. They also served a descent free breakfast. Will definitely stay in Best Western again.

"Enjoyable stay at BW"

very good location, close to the freeway. Room is spacious, clean and comfortable and breakfast is good and free. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The room is exceptional quiet although it is facing the freeway. Highly recommended.

"Excellent price, nice rooms, secure parking."

My group and I stayed here for a week and had absolutely no issues with this location. It's been renovated recently with great results. The bathrooms are modern, clean, and spacious. The rooms are well maintained with soft beds. The complimentary breakfast is vast and well stocked, and overall the property feels very safe and well kept. Parking is underground in an easily accessible garage with elevator and street access to the hotel. We never had issues with being able to hear other guests in the halls or adjacent rooms, and the lobby staff were very courteous throughout the check in/out process. Despite the nearby club, there were never any disturbances and the club area was very well controlled by security to prevent noise or any other issues. I really can't say enough good things about this property and the staff, especially for the rate we paid! The halls still have the slightest musty smell, and the elevators could use an update, but the more important aspects (rooms, staff, breakfast, rates) are all so on-point that these weren't even blips on my radar, I mention them only to be as thorough as possible in letting future guests know what to expect. The location is also close to shopping if you need to pick up last minute necessities, and lots of food options for grabbing something on your way to and from the hotel. We truly had a great experience, and I hope you will too. It was a bastion of rest and relaxation during an otherwise hectic and busy trip to Los Angeles.

"Best Western Markland Hotel in Monterey Park"

First, I got a great rate thru Costco Travel. Secondly, I was quite happy that the place looked better than the last time I stayed here 2 years ago. I think our room was nicer than expected. The beds were very comfy and so are the pillows. My wife and kids (teens) slept like babies. Third, bathroom as very clean although showing a little bit of wear. Lastly, Jasmine at the front desk was helping me with checkout at 10:30 am. She then asked me if we had breakfast. I responded that we had not. She offered if I would like a to-go breakfast bag. I was so pleasantly surprised at this offer though had to decline as we were going to meet my daughter for brunch already.

"Best Best Western!"

This hotel provided my daughter and I with a very a pleasant stay. The receptionist, Jazmin, provided us with details of the use public transport to travel into Los Angeles and local shopping Mall locations.

"Value for money"

Good value for money. Only gripe was the room allocated. I had asked for a quiet room and I think I got the noisiest room I had ever had. Believe the room number was 305 awake all night with the high buzzing noise from an electrical room next door, I actually timed the 5-8 minutes quiet intervals between each pulsating noise throughout the night. Had arrived late and husband slept through most of the night due to sheer exhaustion and bad hearing but I had no such luck. Swapped the room the following morning and staff were very accommodating, this room should not have paying guests. The bedrooms are fine and clean and the breakfast was good, staff very polite. Location ok if you have a car.

Best Western Hotel is one of best options when you are going to Los Angeles, CA. The Staff is wonderful, Rooms are very clean with all amenities to share with family and everybody!!. The Hotel is nearby to Hollywood, beaches and different atractions on Southern California

"Great place & very clean!"

I enjoyed my stay at the BW Maryland Hotel while visiting with friends. My parents always stay there when they go to the L.A. area & they ALWAYS have a positive experience. Front desk Staff are professional & pleasant. Rooms are very clean & presentable. Kitchen staff are pleasant & what I enjoy is the variety of breakfast items. The freeway is very close & shops as well. I HIGHLY recommend the BW Maryland Hotel!

"Very nice room!!"

I had a wonderful time. I will stay here again if I need to. The beds were comfy, and the room was clean. That's all it matters to me!!! I loved their breakfast!! The staff was very friendly. Plenty of towels and toilet paper. Awesome hote!!

From the arrival to departure, things went really well. The hotel staff was kind and courteous. The rooms were well done, roomy, clean, and modern. The lobby decorating needs work, and the modernization of the exterior as well, but the room was outstanding. Great stay.

"Bad smell"

Once you enter the hotel, there is a strong smell of chemicals. Same thing inside the guest room. Another complain is the noise. The breakfast is not bad both in term of variety and quality. Also they have free parking.

"Favorite Hotel"

Best service, always helpful. Always try to stay here when I am in LA. Staff goes out of its way to help in every way. Stay here many times a month. My room is always ready with everything I need. Do not hesitate to book this hotel you will not be disappointed.

"Good Service, Great Price"

Best Western Markland Hotel saved us a ton of money on our trip to LA! My husband, 14 year old son, and I stayed for a week in March in a double bed room. Free parking, free breakfast, free downtown LA those things would be extra. Breakfast was nice with a fair selection of hot and cold items; and being vegan we were happy they had soy and almond milk available. The room was very basic, but very clean. Beds comfortable. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Only downside for us was distance to LA, driving back and forth was not fun, but was doable. My husband used the fitness room, he said it was clean, had towels, and plenty of room to do his exercises. Overall a good stay at a clean hotel for budget minded people.

"Refused the room reserved"

I made a reservation for a friend who was traveling and he ran out of money and needed a place to stay for the evening. After the reservation was made he arrived at the hotel only to be refused the room because he did not have a credit card.

BWMarkland, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to write the review. I am sorry that we had that misunderstanding for your friend. We did not refuse the room to your friend because he did not have a credit card. However, we did delay his check-in because he had no form of payment. Additionally, we are unable to take credit card payments over the phone. This is a policy to protect ourselves and our guests from possible fraudulent activity. Which is why we require our guests to have a valid credit card physically at the hotel, along with a valid identification that matches the guest and credit card so we can do our best to ensure there is no fraudulent activity. We also allow for other methods of payments for our guests to check-in with. We never outright denied your friend a room at the hotel, but only requested that he provide some form of acceptable payment before we could check him in. In the end, we did allow your friend to check-in once we were able to secure the payment. Again, I am sorry if you felt that we were unable to provide you with better service in regards to this. I will work with my team to make sure they are better prepared to inform our guests properly about our policy so something similar to this will not recur. I hope you understand that we do this to not only protect ourselves, but our guests as well. If you have any questions regarding our policies, or any other comments regarding your friend's stay, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected], and I would be more than happy to speak with to you. "6 Thumbs Up"

I came into town late on November 5th to catch an LA Rams game the next morning; I had a bit of an issue upon check-in, a bit of an oversight on my part but nothing to do with the hotel itself. Ashley was working the desk when we checked in and lessened my anxiety about the oversight. She was super courteous and professional and helped me find a solution to my dilemma. Jasmine(I hope I spelled that right) dealt with our few questions and needs efficiently. The rooms were clean and well kept and breakfast was more than adequate. Upon check-out on November 7th Aleah saw us off with an excellent disposition and great personality. It was a good experience overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

"Very friendly staff and clean hotel"

We stayed here for 3 nights during the Santa Anita Breeders Cup Race. The room was basic with 2 queen beds. Nice beds, linen and pillows. Very clean and quiet. Free parking and very nice breakfast. Ashley and all the staff we came in contact with were very customer service friendly. Great place and afordable

"Great Value and Great Receptionist!"

Stayed during August for the weekend with my family. I was looking for a nice room in a budget and this hotel was just right, I could not find anything better based on price in Pico Rivera. The receptionist was polite, helpful and very professional she was very understanding and rushed to get a room ready for us since we got in early.

"My stay at the Mest Western Markland Hotel"

While visiting the Los Angeles area, we chose to spend a night at this hotel. The hotel is readily accessible from the 60 freeway, with easy off/on access. It is in a quasi-residential area, so parking on the exterior is non-existent. The hotel has an underground parking garage that is tight and requires modest driving skills. The hotel itself was typical of any Best Western. There is an indoor SPA. The rooms are on the interior, which does provide a sense of security. We had a room with 2 double beds. Everything in the room worked. We found the room and the bathroom area to be clean. The hotel provides a continental breakfast, with the standard food fare and juices. Sunday morning was quite busy in the breakfast area, but there were two staff members keeping the various foods and drinks stocked. On the negative side, the hotel advertises a restaurant on site. The front desk personnel gleefully points out that there is a restaurant just steps from the lobby. A menu is even included in the room that mentions the restaurant and bar's hours of operation. Yet, when we went down to get something to eat at 8:30 PM, we found the restaurant locked up tight, although the posted hours of operation showed that it should have been in full operation on a Saturday night. When I inquired at the front desk, I got the shoulder shrug about the restaurant being closed, and was given a map showing fast food establishments in the area, that we could walk to. Fortunately, we had access to a car and was able to find an eating place without much problem. Still, overall, the visit was pleasant. We will definitely stay at the hotel again, if we are back in the area.

BWMarkland, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Larry James L, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I appreciate all the comments and concerns when reading these reviews because it helps see what our hotel can improve on. Based on your comments, I am pleased to see you enjoyed your overall stay. I want to send my apologies about the restaurant on-site. The restaurant is still fairly new and they are still adjusting to the area and their hours of operation are still fluctuating to meet the best for everyone. The restaurant is independently owned and operated, outside of our hotel, and unfortunately, that means my staff is not always aware of when they are open. It does seem like they have finally stabilized their hours and they are mainly open at night during the week. I can understand how inconvenient it can be, and we are working with them to try to stay informed about what their hours are so our guests can enjoy a bit to eat or have a drink. If you are ever in the Los Angeles area, please do not hesitate to call us at (323) 887-1988 or email [email protected] so my staff can help you with your reservations. We hope you will be able to enjoy the restaurant that next time you stay with us. Yours in Hospitality, Danton Lam General Manager

"Good value but needs some work"

The value is good but the hotel has been under "renovation" for something in excess of 2 years now with no sign of improvement. Only one elevator works which requires extra waiting time. However, the breakfast is better than average.

BWMarkland, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Markland Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Melvin S, Thank you for your continuing loyalty to our hotel and writing reviews about your stays with us. I want to personally thank you for being very patient as we continue with our renovations. I know it seems like the projects are taking some time to finish, but we are still trying our best to allow our guests to stay at our hotel, and not have the renovations disturb our guests, which sometimes prolongs our projects. I apologize if you have not seen any recent improvements, but a lot of the changes we have made lately have been small but beneficial to our hotel and guests. We have been refinishing interior doors, repairing walls, updating our air conditioning systems with full digital displays, and more, but like I said, a lot of them are small and might not be immediately noticed. We have replaced some of the furniture in our rooms, and are still replacing more items in our rooms as time goes on. As for the elevators, I am still working with my elevator company and the state to get the permits and equipment ready before they can complete the work. My staff and I are trying our best to accommodate all our guests, and we definitely appreciate everyone's patience. When you decide to come back to our area, you can make reservations through us by calling our hotel at (323) 887-1988 or emailing [email protected] I hope the next time you come back you will see some of the improvements. "A three night stopover, just right for us"

You have to understand that this is not a high end hotel, its a budget property with great friendly staff, comfortable, but basic rooms and a location that's handy for those wanting something out of the middle of the city. We turned up after a long flight from the UK, staff were more than willing to provide us with helpful advise, suggestions on where to eat, and other tips which ended up making our trip/holiday. We couldn't fault any of the staff we met, friendly, open and engaging. our room was at the back of the hotel on the top floor; in fact we were right at the far end of the corridor, there was only one other room between us and the fire escape. Our room was clean, odourless, and functional. I have always measured a room on how clean it is, comfy bed and pillows, lack of noise and access to hot water; big tick on all of these fronts from this establishment. Breakfast was a continental affair, although there were eggs, bacon, sausage as well as the normal cereal and toast. There was also a waffle making machine, fresh fruit and yogurt. Staff were constantly refilling dishes, although if you come later in the serving they may not put more stuff our to prevent wastage. this is a simple meal, nothing fancy. I run regularly, one of the staff gave me a good local route to follow which sorted my daily needs. Parking is bellow the hotel with a service elevator to all floors located in the middle. I cant really fault this establishment, its basic but functional. I can see how some people may dislike this place, maybe they have failed to look at other reviews before they book; we would use this place again.

"Excellent accommodation at very affordable price"

Our stay in Markland Best Western, before and after our 7 day bus tour, was very comfortable one and we do admire the reception staff who are always ready to help us. Excellent location close to downtown LA.

"Excellent Hotel with friendly Staff!"

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Markland Hotel when visiting LA for a few days. On arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff on reception desk. She was polite, courteous and explained everything to us that we needed to know. She processed our check in very quickly. We then parked our vehicle in the underground parking, which is complimentary for hotel guests. Each floor of the car park then has an elevator, which services the hotel room floors. On arrival at the room, it was very spacious, clean and well equipped with the usual that you would expect. The bed and pillows were comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. The room was serviced daily. The breakfast is basic and located in a small area just off of the front reception. It could be bigger to cater for the number of hotel guests. Equally, the food on offer was basic, for example two cereals, some pastries, toast, waffle machine (only one so long queues) as well as bacon and egg. They also have a coffee machine and juice machine. If you were in a rush, you can skip breakfast and collect a complimentary 'to go' bag from reception which had fruit, water and a cereal bar. This was a nice addition if you are leaving early. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend!

"Best service!"

The hotel is very nice and clean, staff amazing and I had the best firm bed I ever had! The front desk employee couldn't checked me in early but she propose to keep my luggage for me and even use a fridge for my perishable items. The flooring is made out of wood, so it is kind of noisy

"Convenient location, close to highway"

This location was close to the highway and was a major convenience for us as we were traveling. We had a shocking experience at breakfast time and had to eat our breakfast standing. There was even people eating in the Lobby area and we saw some taking their breakfast away, maybe to their rooms?

"Short, but good stay"

We arrived after a long flight from Germany and were welcomed very friendly! Room and service were good (obviously no 5-Star premium Hotel). Breakfast better than expected. Left after a short night as planned. It's located a bit far out, if you are planning on doing sightseeing/tourist stuff. But has a good connection to the next highway.

"They will not match the low price"

I booked the hotel and found many website offered lower price and immediately sent the claim. (They offer price matching) However, they waited and by the time they checked the internet the rate had gone up and they will not match the price. Since you never know when they check the websites and you're not guaranteed. Unless you're super lucky, you will not get the lowest price as they promise. Don't waste your time to file the claim. Very disappointed!

"Not your typical Best Western experience..."

We selected this hotel for it's proximity to Universal Studios (1/2 hr), and because over the years Best Western seemed to offer good quality for reasonable cost. This hotel is conveniently located right off the frwy. When we walked into the elevators, we wondered what we were getting into, as the wall panels were old and filthy. Our room smelled of stale cleaning supplies, an open window helped clear that up. Otherwise, all was ok, probably would not spend 2 nights here though, property just seemed a little neglected.

"Overall Good Experience"

Excellent room and value for the rate. All other hotels in the area were booked, so this was a last option. Bathroom was not the cleanest due to a toilet issue, but other than this it was safe and clean overall. I would stay there again. It is not the usual Hilton or Marriot we're used to; however, I would definitely do this again.

"We'll be back"

The room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The front desk people were very friendly. The breakfast room was small we had to take our food back to our room because there was no room to sit and they ran out of waffle batter on the first day so I didn't get one the whole time we were there. The parking garage was convenient, I've stayed at hotels where they run out of parking room so I was glad we were able to use the garage. The location was great for our needs, just about 10+ mins to downtown. Breakfast was until 10 am and check out was noon which suited our laid back personalities, we didn't feel rushed.

"Kept awake by staff"

Do not check into room 105. It is opposite employees' office, and they are slamming the door until 11 pm and again from 5 am. Surroundings og hotel pretty dull. Nowhere to go and eat. The rooms are ok.

"Great stay"

We were visiting LA for the first time and needed a family friendly clean affordable hotel with free WIFI and Parking and breakfast for the kids, all within driving distance to the walk of fame and Hollywood. For 3 days we did all these plus Santa Monica beach! Perfect family vacation

"Best Western Markland Hotel"

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms very clean and comfortable! Hotel right off freeway and easy to find. We arrived before the 3pm check in and front desk attendant made arrangements for us to get into our rooms so we could sleep and prepare before attending our family event.

"Won't stay here again"

Very uncomfortable. Strong mold odor that was masked with cleaning supplies. Really tried hard to make the appearance look good and smell good, but you can tell as you check in that it is a very old hotel. Definitely won't recommend if you're looking for comfort.

"Good price not far from Downtown"

Chose this hotel for the proximity to Downtown LA, Universal Studios, and Dodger Stadium. Close in miles, but of course there's always freeway traffic. Room was clean, breakfast descent, staff friendly, and it looked like they were remodeling areas. Can't beat this for the price. Only one minor complaint, we were on the 3rd floor facing the street, it was somewhat noisy from traffic, room on the other side of the hotel would likely be more quiet.

"The staff were friendly and the room was nice."

We had to travel to S.C. for a funeral and this hotel was close to where we needed to be. We booked two room and it was very nice. The hotel staff was nice friendly and the breakfast was very good. The whole experience was very good considering it was a three star hotel. I was quite surprise with with experience.

"Good hotel with a great staff"

We stayed 3 nights visiting Los Angeles. Although the hotel isn't nearby Los Angeles Downtown, is very quick and easy to get there, so it becomes the hotel a great option to pay cheap. The restaurants and stores near the hotel are very convenience.

"average hotel"

The asian/american guy at the reception was very nice and accomodating. The room is nice. Breakfast is decent. The only establishment near this property is a gas station but if you have a car, all the tourist attractions are 15-30 mins away if there are no traffic. wifi is not that reliable.

"Best value"

Great value compared to other budget chains. For about $80 a night I was able to get a suite with a jacuzzi, free breakfast every morning that included hot protein, fruit, cereal, breads, juices and coffee. Located right off the freeway it's very close to several shopping and dining options. Walls are a little thin but rooms are clean and spacious. Plenty of underground parking. They were in the process of remodeling so I'm looking forward to seeing the new look.

"Decent Hotel with good staff"

we stayed 3 nights visiting family near there and at check in we had to ask front desk to switch one room due to moldy smell, The staff was very accommodating and did so right away. The other room we had had peeling bath tub, scratched and stained toilet (not dirty, but worn out) but the beds were comfortable and room was fine. Internet worked well. One thing that was a bit disapoiting to me is the breakfast. Unpeeled hard boiled eggs and limp greasy thin strips of bacon. NO half and half and the coffee was not good. Plenty of parking and great access which is hard to find in California. Overall, it is a very basic hotel and met our general needs.

"First time stay at this hotel"

No swimming pool, no microwave, no ice-machine on 3rd floor, need more variety on the complementary breakfast. The staff was friendly, room was ok, plenty of parking on site. Only major issue was finding a dirty underwear and shirt sitting on the top shelf of the closet in our room when we first checked in. TOTALLY GROSS! They did took care of the problem but now we're self conscience of the issue and worried what other gross items we might find in the future.

Stayed one night, though arrived extremely late due to a delayed flight. The front desk was confused as to what I was doing there so late, but I said I had a reservation and I was checking in. The room I had was large, renovated, and comfortable. Although there needed to be more outlets unfortunately. Also oddly there was a window by the bathtub where you shower, but it's darkened out. I would be more disturbed if I were a lady, but I didn't quite care. Just a note in case you were driving an SUV, the height of the garage which is primarily underground is rather low. I think it's around 7 or 8 feet. I didn't realize how close I was to the ceiling until I parked, but all good. Just be wary. I would stay here again.

"The Good and the Bad"

Hotel is undergoing renovation so some inconvenience is to be expected. One elevator (there are two) has been inoperative for more than a year. However, the staff is more than helpful and the overall value is good. Improvements could include softer pillows and more microwaves for guest use.

"February 2016"

This facility is a good value however it is in need of renovation. Not much in the way of dining options nearby. Close to the 60 freeway. We did not use the exercise facility or swimming pool. It appeared there was some repair work in progress during our stay. We requested and received a late checkout due to our business schedule. Staff was friendly, helpful and courteous.

"Bad bad bad "

I have stayed in other best western hotels before and all of them were great. That is why I chose best western markland. But unfortunately it was a bad choice. Totally different from the others. Stinky room. Cold shower. And the worst part was the terrible noise everyday at night and early in the morning. It seemed like someone was walking all the time on the floor above mine. Difficult to sleep. Staff was friendly specially Aaron, but I would never recommend or Return.

"Comfy in California"

Stayed at this location for 5 nights leading up to New Years. Liked: beds - comfortable; ample safe under motel parking included; indoor hallway room access; elevators; clean facility; exercise room; helpful staff; in-room ironing, hair dryer, and coffee/tea; hot & cold breakfast available daily - items included juices, coffee/tea, cereals, eggs, meats, waffle maker, pastries, bread, etc.. Questions/Concerns: Our A/C unit was challenging to adjust and a bit noisy. Others we spoke with did not have this problem. We preferred to have them fix it after we left vs having a stranger in our room while away during the day. Summary: Have stayed here before and will likely do so again. Daily pricing is fair/competitive. They charge a premium here over New Years weekend - but so do others. No on-site laundry. No on-site restaurant but many accessible on Garfield and Atlantic Rds and in Monterey Park. 35 mins to Santa Monica, Venice Beach, LAX. About an hour to Long Beach and Redondo Beach. Freeways nearby. Would rate as a 3 out of 5.

"Very clean, good price."

This is one of the cleanest hotel I stayed with. The bathroom is very very tidy. Fast WIFI. People there are very friendly and helpful. The price is also very good. Breakfast is good. I am very happy with the two nights stay there.

"no scramble eggs"

Your hotel should have scramble eggs, my granddaughter was disappointed to find out no scramble eggs, the rooms of the wall are too thin, the baby wake ups from noise in the hallway. The front desk staff was very nice.

"Good Value"

Hotel is under remodeling, the hallway is kind of old, but it is clean in the room. Nice breakfast and staff are nice. Location is not very convenient. Not a lot of restaurants nearby. Plenty of parking in underground garage.

"Renovation in progress 12-02-2015 ! ! !"

If you plan to stay at this Best Western, you really ought to call first to find out if renovation is finished. The smell of pain permeates the whole hotel. The hallway rugs are covered with paper to protect from splashed paint.

"Terrible foul smelling stay during renovation."

Stayed here recently on vacation. The first floor lobby and hallway was a mess. There was very active renovation work going on and the hot spa was blocked by a maintenace sign. The smell in the first floor hallway was horrible like rotting fish. There were holes on the wall and plastic on the uneven first floor hallway. Inside our room the pillows had tons of lumps making sleep difficult. The toilet seat was loose and unsecured. I would recommend staying away from this hotel if you have a choice.

"more like a Worst Western"

On paper it looks nice. Except that it looks like a run-down, sad place. Elevator and jacuzzi broken. Room and hallways stink. Reasonable breakfast when they first fill up the buffet, then the selection shrinks as guests - as you would expect - eat it. There should be a sign to encourage people to wake up early to see the full selection. Staff is friendly but it's ironic that they tell you five times about no smoking and then you see cigarette butts everywhere and smell it too.People smoked on the balcony below us until 2AM and we got to enjoy it along with the immense highway noise. The most annoying part is the price: I can put up with all these annoyances if it were a Travelodge. I definitely feel I didn't get what I paid for.

Dear Gabor N, Thank you for taking the time to write these reviews. I read every review to ensure that my staff and hotel are meeting our guests' expectations. I apologize for not meeting your expectations during your stay at our property. I am sorry that you were not able to have an enjoyable experience. I can understand how frustrating it can be when not all the amenities are available at a hotel, but we are under major renovations throughout our entire property. We are trying to accommodate our guests the best that we can during these renovations. Our renovations target all areas of our property, and this includes determining and resolving any issues we have with odors. We deep clean our hallways and rooms weekly, and with the renovations that have already been completed, there is a marked difference. There are no longer any lingering odors in our hallways. As for the breakfast, I have personally spoken to my breakfast attendants regarding the restocking, and informed them that leaving anything empty is unacceptable. Since speaking with them, we have not had any issues with restocking of the breakfast items. Additionally, we are coming up with new innovative ways to provide more selections and variety for our guests. Yes, we are a non-smoking hotel and I apologize that you had to deal with people who did not follow our regulations. In the future, please inform us so that we can find and deal with the people smoking. We take smoking in our property as a serious issue and we will charge guests that violate our non-smoking policy because we have to deep clean the room when a guest smokes inside our rooms. We do not wish future guests to have to stay in a room that has a lingering smell of smoke. Lastly, I am sorry that the road noise disturbed your rest. We have a side of the building that does not face the highway, and if you prefer, we are more than happy to try and accommodate you. Everyone has different preferences, and we try to accommodate all our guests based on the availability that we have for that day. I appreciate all the comments and concerns that you have brought to my attention. I will take everything into consideration to prevent future guests from experiencing these situations that had arisen during your stay. I do encourage you to come back once our renovations are done. Thank you and we hope to see you again. Yours in Hospitality, Danton Lam General Manager

This Hotel is in a very busy area. Location could be better. Breakfast needs improvement. Many people stay at this Hotel it gets very crowded for the breakfast, the dining room is small at there not enough sits for gusts to sit. Many times we did not see any fruts, there were gone benfore we got to the dining room.

Dear Mostafa R, Thank you for taking this time to write this review. I take all of our guests' comments and opinions seriously, as it helps us improve our guests' experiences.I am sorry that you think that our location is in a busy area. During rush hour, it can get busy. However, generally speaking, our surrounding area is rather quiet and we do not get much road traffic. There really is nothing we can do about our location. As of right now, we going to renovate our breakfast room and also bring different foods and add variety to our breakfast. I have spoken to my breakfast attendants about the fruit, and they send their apologizes for not consistently putting the fruit out. They said that they will not let this happen again. I would like to mention that our property is undergoing major renovations throughout our entire property. We are working on multiple projects, all simultaneously, to try to complete them as soon as we can so our guests can enjoy the newly updated property. I appreciate the comments and concerns and will try to come up with innovative ideas for our breakfast. Yours In Hospitality, Danton Lam General Manager

"A good value but needs some attention. Pillows too hard and one elevator was out of order."

The pillows on the beds are too bulky and hard. Recommend a choice of pillows when checking in or mixed on the beds. Also one of the two elevators was out of order which was our experience the last time we stayed at this hotel too. Elevator cab could be spruced up.

"Clean Hotel"

This hotel looks a little creepy outside because you can tell the structure is old. However, EVERYTHING about our stay was great. Hotel was clean and staff was nice! I would DEFINITELY return again. We slept amazing in the comfortable beds.

"Should be called a Motel"

This place was not only in a weird area, but it felt like a motel. By weird area, I mean the location and the surroundings. Right outside the window I had a view of an empty field with gigantic power lines and then an old abandoned house that looked like it probably housed 50 raccoons. At night we heard rustling out there but couldn't see what it was. I usually stay at Best Westerns or similar because they're typically clean and have friendly staff. This place was an exception. The place felt dirty and cramped and the elevator was very shaky. If felt like the place was under construction or something. Would not recommend.
