Description

We are taking steps to protect our guests and staff. As a result, certain services and some amenities might be reduced. The Best Western Hotel Majestic is a four-star property located in the Zocalo, the heart of downtown Mexico City facing the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the city government buildings and only two blocks from the Aztec Temples. We are a seven-story building from the beginning of the century, where Barroque style can be admired in the main lobby, and the stone-work, carved wood, bronze and 'talavera' of Puebla mix in a unique way. The rooftop La Terraza Restaurant offers the best view of the Zocalo. Enjoy your stay.

"NOT SO MAJESTIC"
edvin_suljic, 03 Avril 2024

This hotel has seen better days a long time ago. Although it is located in the old center and has beautiful architecture, the hotel itself needs to be renovated. The elevator is outdated and needs the help of staff who close the elevator doors and not automatically. The rooms lack air conditioning and a refrigerator. The breakfast is a bit basic and tasteless. The advantage is that it is located on the last floor of the hotel with a beautiful view. I recommend this hotel only in case you really want to be in the center and you are staying in the city for a very short time.

"My worst night ever in CDMX"
danagar97, 12 Mars 2024

My stay at the hotel was dreadful. They had a sound check in the Zocalo square, and unfortunately, they were unable to address the issue. I lodged a complaint with the night shift staff, who informed me that there was nothing they could do and that my only option was to complain. The manner in which they conveyed this information was less than satisfactory. Additionally, the staff member suggested that if I wished, I could check out in the early morning and find a solution for the next day, without offering any alternative solutions. In my past experiences at other hotels, similar issues were promptly addressed with viable solutions. The following morning, the reception team only informed me later that the manager was in a meeting. This overall experience was quite disappointing.

"Location, location, location"
jenio609, 24 Janvier 2024

Location. An aged property with great location on the Zocalo. Get a room with a view of the Zocalo to see the activity there. (Note the Zocalo can be noisy, but usually stops by 11PM. Location it is in a very walkable area of Mexico City with museums, the Metropolitan Cathedral and other sites nearby. Location, it is difficult to get near the museum in a car. Expect to walk a block. Most of the staff speaks some English, with Adan in the dining room and Jose Luis at the concierge desk were most helpful. Dining area has a lovely view of Zocalo (location again!). Jose Luis connected us with drivers and gave helpful information about getting around down down. All that said, the site is a Grand Dame of hotels, in her late years. It is in need of a serious renovation, my room had vinyl floor planks coming off, revealing hard wood floors, there is no AC or heating, the plumbing is old, the internet works when it wants to, double pane windows would decrease the Zocalo noise. I will say though the location and the staff were wonderful.

"Mexico Adventure"
Go463252, 13 Janvier 2024

Location felt very secure, due to proximity to Zocalo, area always surrounded by police. Excellent walking area in the promenade. Blocking of traffic was excellent for tourist and others to wall the area. Tough to sleep at night due to hard and worn out mattresses. Shower head had no water pressure.

"Day of Dead Celebration"
floraV4066IK, 06 Novembre 2023

My spouse and I stayed at this Hotel for 2 nights. We had a great view of El Zocalo. We did realize that we would not sleep as much due to noise of celebration. It was worth the stay and lack of sleep. The celebration was amazing! I'd stay again if I had the opportunity.

"The worst hotel in CDMX"
ppcuervo, 04 Novembre 2023

The lady who works on the night 3rd to 4rd... was so rude, unrespectful, and believe me, you don't want to live that experience!!! NEVER AGAIN... ALSO, No A/C, very loud, and horrible rooms. The bathroom smells very bad, the bed is uncomfortable and the people who works here, sucks!

"Avoid this hotel - Denied access. No refund."
chriswiencek, 15 Septembre 2023

We had booked a room for Mexican Independence Day. They charged more than 11 times their typical nightly rate....$1121 US Both my wife and I tested positive for COVID - she tested positive the day of the reservation and I tested positive 2 days prior to the reservation. From the manger on down, they would not issue a refund and they would not issue a credit for next years celebration. They said, call back in a week, we are busy, When I said, I was 20 minutes away, so if I drove to the hotel and checked in, you'd let me stay and infect your other guests??? They finally said, thankfully, that if they know someone is COVID positive, you can't stay at the hotel, which is exactly my point. You are denying me the right to stay but at the same time, keeping my payment.... Note that we had a reservation the day before at the Rosewood Hotel in San Miguel De Allende. They very graciously offered a full refund. In the future, I will be staying at the Rosewood. I will NEVER stay at the Best Western...

"Marco at the roof top bar is the best waiter and makes best amaretto based Piña Colada"
AvidTravellerWW, 06 Août 2023

I love this hotel for its roof top bar overlooking the Cathedral . What a lovely view . Marco really was one of the best waiters who makes the best piña colada (try amaretto based). He really made my day ! May try buffet next time . I visit this bar every time I am in Mexico City . Love it here

"Never again"
A1289IVsteveng, 21 Mai 2023

Flight was delayed over 8 hours causing us to miss our connection leaving us to stay overnight in Mexico. We were tired & booked two rooms on Expedia. We showed up at the hotel & were told Expedia confirmation wasn't valid because they didn't have rooms. The front office agent was rude & dismissive our situation. He never offered to call another hotel or a taxi for us to go back to the airport. We asked if he could call a hotel for us & he refused basically leaving us stranded at 11pm. Really disgusted by the lack of service & professionalism this hotel displayed.

"Zocalo view"
thomaslS7009WS, 23 Mars 2023

I stayed here 43 years ago with my wife and now with our 17 year old grandson. I asked for an ADA room and exterior view. Room 216. I know it was the noisy side but I wanted our grandson to see the Zocalo which he did. Room was spotless but the easy chair was old and should be in the garbage. No microwave or minifridge but that's ok. I speak Spanish but everyone there speaks English to varying degrees. One manule operated elevator and there is no ramp for wheelchairs. The staff is very helpfu. We had breakfast on the 7th floor overlooking the Zocalo. American style eggs/bacon etc $10 w/o tip. It was built in 1937 and has a real personality. I will go back again but it won't be another forty years since I am 75!

"Hotel of History"
MDC0719, 26 Février 2023

The hotel is history on its own with an elevator that must has the hotel operator. Though old this hotel is very well kept. The location is very good as well for the history of the ruins as well as the center point of MX city for some restaurants, shopping and tours. The cons of this hotel is the internet is not useable in the rooms though the front desk says it should be. The only connections we could get was in the lobby. This was rather annoying and even more annoying when the front desk didn't;t know or could not fix it. Also, note there is no air conditioning in the rooms but with it being February this was not an issue. The issue is morning and evening protests and vendors screaming. You can close the windows and its better but then its hot and stuffy in the rooms. In summary, the hotel and area are amazing and glad I stayed but for the internet, outside noise and the lack of AC to block the noise, you may want to pick another hotel.

"Would not recommend"
vzunigarr, 07 Février 2023

The hotel location is great and staff is friendly. However, this hotel is not worth the price. The room we stayed in had no windows, the shower didn't work properly (water didn't come out, it was barely enough to shower), the phone to call the front desk and ask them to come fix it was also broken, we asked for more towels cause the whole bathroom floor was wet after we showered and they never came. The wifi is really bad, we were using the wifi of a restaurant nearby.

"In an unbeatable location in the heart of Mexico City, stately old-time hotel."
IsabelArizona, 03 Février 2023

Diligent and courteous staff, great views of the Zocalo or pedestrian Madero street, super clean rooms, lovely old-Mexico look. Having said that, I don't recommend the terrace restaurant on the top floor; the tired menu reads a redesign from scratch.

"Last time to stay here"
tessieleed, 19 Janvier 2023

I have been staying here when visiting Mexico City. It used to be fine. But it isn't anymore. The building itself is stunning. Mexican workers always accommodating. But could not bathe as shower nonfunctional. And the bathtub water was BROWN. lots of nice wood in room. My room was not ready so they ‘upgraded' me I to a suite: an adjoining room with some old furniture thrown in. Looked like a young person's ghetto apartment. I didn't even walk into it. Too bad. This used to be a fine place to stay. No more. Best Western needs to up their game. This place was better when it wasn't a BW.

"A Grand Old Building in a Great Location"
kdh1716, 18 Janvier 2023

The hotel has wonderful views of the Zocalo and a warm, capable staff. The rooms are a little rundown but are spacious and quiet. The terrace restaurant has a superb view and tasty food. The only negatives are the weak water pressure and the inconsistent wifi. I think making wifi work in an old masonry building must be a challenge.

"Great Location"
rmpg2022, 28 Décembre 2022

Clean and charming hotel conveniently located in the center of Mexico City. We felt safe walking around because of all the security around the area. There are lots of sties and restaurants to choose from as well.

"Excellet hotel; appears in two novels!"
803RichardB, 18 Décembre 2022

This is the best hotel in CDMX, no question. It also appears in two novels: "In the Land of the Feathered Serpent" and "The Time Travelers." The best (and least expensive) hotel overlooking Zócalo.

"Dishonest hotel with dishonest listings"
kristelw, 07 Décembre 2022

Terrible. Book a room with a million dollar view, get an internal view. Total scam. Definitely avoid this place, they are running a real con. I don't even want to bother giving them any more of my time, but Tripadvisor requires 200 characters. Beware.

"Great location but a bit noisy. "
Alison H, 01 Décembre 2022

The hotel was beautiful and very centrally located, right on the main square. Unfortunately the location also quite noisy at all hours. The rooms were very spacious and clean with a king size bed. The bed was a bit too hard for our liking. The wifi was unsecured and a bit weak in the room. The balcony restaurant was lovely with a fantastic view. The food was good and the margaritas delicious.

"Great centrally located authentic hotel"
andrewanddaisy, 03 Novembre 2022

Perfect location. Front and side rooms look over the main plaza . Don't expect much sleep if any events are being held in the main square as clean up operations are carried out noisily during the night (all night!) no matter the time. Bring ear plugs. Breakfast American style during week and buffet at weekends - all good food. Great view from the restaurant terrace. Rather dated but clean and beautiful authentic decoration in communal areas.

"Good stop"
810catalinap, 08 Août 2022

The location of this hotel is both fantastic and unfortunate. The hotel is right in the center so close to everything, however this means is also very loud. We spent two sleepiness nights there. The windows are singles and the noise is bad. The room itself is big and spacious, however is quite outdated and the floors creeking. You can easily hear other people in their rooms walking and talking. The restaurant is fantastic. Breakfast is delicious and fast and the staff very polite. The view is also breathtaking. Staff at the hotel is very polite and respectful

"run away! worst hotel ever"
mariellezumbach, 24 Juin 2022

I took the most expensive room. the view from the windows is breathtaking and... that's all. no air conditioner (not even a fan), very old furniture, no mini-bar, super old bed and bathroom, very noisy. Paid for 3 nights and, as soon as I went up to my room, I decided to leave. glad they gave me a full refund.

"Amazing view from the balcony"
HoustonG4L, 14 Mai 2022

I'd go back again and again. The room we stayed in was okay, nothing super fancy, but the location was amazing and the view was breath taking. We arrived late, past midnight, and felt very safe. Our room was reasonably priced as well.

"Beautiful but NOT a worth it"
mglsrivera, 11 Février 2022

This hotel is in a beautiful location over looking the zocalo. The building and architecture amazing. It is a shame that all this beauty goes out the window with a careless staff, that gave our room to someone else in the middle of the night while we were sleeping, they say they scheduled our COVID tests but no one shows up even an hour later, and just a minor detail if you like hard lumpy pillows and a bed this place is for you. And finally they re schedule the COVID test and still no one shows up. In the end we gave up and moved to the Grand around the corner and they were amazing.

"Majestic"
nelson33914, 15 Novembre 2021

Good place to stay in CDMX. Staff, especially Jose, very helpful. Note that you will be surprised to learn that breakfast is not included. Also be aware that Internet does not work in the room but does work in the lobby. A real inconvience.

"Great Location - But Read Review "
R F, 15 Novembre 2020

I will start with the positives. The hotel is directly adjacent from Zocalo and it's a great location, the hotel entrance is on the side. The hotel is very clean, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. It also has a restaurant on the 7th floor with a great view of Zocalo for the greatest pictures. Some things to be aware of is taxis/Uber cannot pull directly up to the hotel you are dropped of a block away and must walk to the hotel. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, I would recommend the hotel provide a fan for each room. Zocalo can be noisy at times but you are in the center of everything within walking distance. Going up and down the elevator requires a hotel attendant because hotel guests are forbidden from operating the elevator because it's old. The building has allot of old world charm. Overall, my stay was very good and I would stay against

"Wonderful hotel central to all the historic sites"
dawnlX6082YX, 11 Mars 2020

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel and it was amazing! Right on the plaza with unbelievable views. Hotel is historic and beautiful. Rooms are all on an interior atrium area so recommended staying on floor 3 or higher for better privacy. Events in the plaza can be very loud. We had an interior room and a sound machine so we were fine. All the action is literally just outside the door. Shopping, food, the cathedral, temple mayor and tons more just a walk away. Staff was super friendly. Rooftop restaurant was great. If you like history, stay here.

"Mexico city Square"
dougie2015, 09 Mars 2020

Found this hotel quite affordable and in an awesome location. The bus boys, bar staff and restaurant staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The cleanliness of the hotel was at a high standard and the cleaning ladies did a terrific job. We had booked two rooms for two couples. One had the outside room, which had a room overlooking the main square which was quite noisy but the view made up for it. The other room was an inside room, which had a view looking into the hotel. The view wasn't great but it was very quiet and peaceful. All in all we had a great time in Mexico city and the hotel was everything we needed and wanted. The roof terrace was awesome and the food quality was high. We ate here most nights. The staff had a wealth of information about Mexico city that others will find very valuable for their own stay.

"An old fashioned hotel in a fabulous location "
JennyM30, 08 Mars 2020

Right on the main square this was a lovely hotel the rooms were spacious with plenty of wardrobe space. The restaurant on the top floor had great views. The staff were very helpful. The bathroom had lovely toiletries and a hairdryer.

"Great For Fun But That's All"
louloudonlan, 04 Mars 2020

On day one I might have been more forgiving. Upside first .. hotel is in a fantastic location and the staff are friendly. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot. I checked in at 2am and had paid for the night precious. The room wasn't ready so half hour delay. I was told my room had a great view of the square and it did. The hotel is desperate for a refurb and some modern conveniences. No air conditioning, torn curtains, no fridge or mini bar and no sound control at all. The noise from the square was like torture for four nights .. all night. I asked to move every day but there was always no possibility. If you like sleep it's not for you.

"Great location but ......."
chamatexas, 26 Février 2020

Honestly I'm struggling on what to say in this review. We spent 4 nights here. The location couldn't be more perfect--our balcony room overlooked the Zocalo square; we were 2 blocks from the Templo Mayor; and we walked out the hotel door to Madero Avenue (a major pedestrian street). The hotel itself dates from the 1930s, although we were told the first 2 floors actually date from the 1600s. The hotel is beautiful in a 1930s sort of way, and quaint. (The elevator has an actual operator and doesn't function unless a staff person is available.) The staff was friendly and helpful, and our room was adequate. But now, here are the things you should know. First, there are no rooms with heating or air conditioning. The Mexico City climate usually doesn't need this so long as you can open the windows and get air circulation. Here's the "but", though. Our room opened directly onto the Zocalo--beautiful views. Zocalo is used almost 24 hours a day by everything from the Army to protest groups to festival-goers to music events (and the chants and music and noise often extended well past 10:00pm). We just happened to be there during a week-long festival that included live bands, dancers, drummers, etc. So when we needed to open our balcony doors to get air, then we got all the noise as well as the air. Also, there are very bright lights around the Zocalo as well as lovely ambience lights on all of the surrounding buildings. So if we closed the curtains (to shut out the light), then we also shut out the air....and vice versa. [Note: Some rooms open onto Madero Ave. or the hotel's atrium, so they wouldn't have the noise/light/air problem, but they also wouldn't have the spectacular views. It's a conundrum.] The hotel has a restaurant and bar on its 7th floor (with the same spectacular views of the Zocalo square). For functionality, our room had no refrigerator, nightstands, or USB plugs. There were a couple of available electric outlets, and the hotel does have wifi. (Mexico uses the same voltages & connections for its electricity as does the USA.) We did have a good television with cable channels (including the USA version of CNN). Our bed was comfortable, and the room was big and clean. Bathroom was large and adequate but not modern at all. So, all in all, would we stay there again? The price was very reasonable for the location, compared to what we would have paid in other cities. There are some other hotels in the area (but not necessarily right on the Zocalo); you might want to do some comparison shopping. And if the views, price, location, & appeal of watching all kinds of fascinating activities right from your balcony would offset the light & noise factors, then this would be a good choice.

"Comfortable, cozy old hotel"
susannls2016, 25 Février 2020

Do you have a noise app on your phone? Use it if you are bothered by noise! We stayed here during the time the huge cultural event took place at the Zoloco Center and we closed the windows and used the white noise app. The beds are very comfortable and the staff are exceptionally helpful. BE WARNED...you are given 2 liters of water each day. You will need to buy more just around the corner! We needed water for coffee and for brushing our teeth. This location is exceptional for visiting museums, dining, etc.

"Another great stay at the Majestic"
K796YZerice, 20 Février 2020

The prime attraction of this hotel is its location on the Zocalo in the Centro Historico of Mexico City. It is directly across the plaza from the National Palace and the main Cathedral is on another side. We had a large, clean and comfortable room. Staff are great and very helpful. The Terraza restaurant at top has a great breakfast buffet with open air seating overlooking the Zocalo.

"Old need renovation"
4anthonyc, 11 Février 2020

Went when my wife for a weekend to see the Zocalo but find out at the hotel what's kind of old, the electrical plugs did not work to charge my phone elevator did not work at 6 o'clock in the morning The front desk need some renovation. At night it was too noisy you can hear the noise from the outside cannot sleep, we requested a room with a view of the zocalo to find out at night until 4 am we could hear people screaming singing loud noises it was bad.

"Old style, very friendly, great terrace "
michaelthole, 25 Janvier 2020

We stayed here just for a night and enjoyed our stay. It's an old, charming place. The beds were very comfortable and we looked directly at the cathedral. Best of all is the great terrace at the 7th floor!

"Horrible ordeal"
Luis T, 04 Janvier 2020

I stayed at this property several times forty years ago, however the reviews and advertising I recently read everywhere seem surealistic. Only one thing is true: excellent location. Other than that, what I saw are the ruins of a one time classic hotel in the heart of the Historic Area. At arrival they messed up my updated reservation, the lobby feels gloomy and underlit, once in what was supposed to be a suite disappointment emerged; worn out furniture, cold air drift, no heating, no hand towels, and to boot once I tried to shower the faucets were loose and about to break. In short the next morning I asked for a room change into a standard room where furniture seemed even older and not at all kept up. My patience came to a limit when in the shower quite late at night, again loose faucets but this time the water wouldn´t drain, someone came to try to fix it with a manual rubber pump claiming there was no one else around. At this point I was fed up and decided to check out in the middle of the night. It is a shame that such a beautiful building with a superb location is going to waste.

"An excellent accommodation and location!"
NiniBug, 01 Janvier 2020

We actually stayed here twice during our visit to Mexico City. Both tines, we received excellent service from the staff. The location near Zocolo Square is perfect for walking to various sites. You can pick up the City your buses nearby and easily walk to some museums. We opted to take a taxi to Museum Frida Kahlo and walk around the nearby markets, The hotel can also arrange visits to the Pyramids as well. The room was cleaned every day. There is also a safe in each room! The downside was the terrace restaurant. It was buffet only. Very pricey and not good at all. We tried it once and didn't return. Overall, we would highly recommend the Majestic. Thank you to all the staff for making our visit to México City so much fun and relaxing.

"Disappointment is an understatement, shocked is a better word."
MLVBedard, 27 Décembre 2019

This is the first time I've written an online review but feel it's absolutely necessary to inform others who are coming to the Majestic Elegance hotel in Costa Mujeres Mexico. The first day of our vacation we spent 5 hours in our room with a six man maintenance crew who had to fix serious and major problems. The largest concerns being extensive water damage from plumbing issues. The whole ceiling in bathroom needed to be replaced because of leakages. Both sinks leaked underneath our bed and they had to replace water logged wood structures. TV, phone and safe not working. No curtains in the window, we had to undress behind a pillar. When we pulled down the bed covers there was a dirty cleaning rag which left the sheets wet. The heavy mirrored sliding door on the closet was not attached properly and could have fallen. We couldn't put any clothes away or sit on the couch because every thing was dusty and dirty from white construction residue. Other issues that are inconvienant and annoying include: - no furniture on balcony - dirty folded towel hanging by sink - coffee machine but no tea, sugar, creamers or stir sticks. - no iron or ironing board. - lamps in room with no possible plug in. - walls, floors and tiles are littered with paint and caulking residue. When you walk into the lobby it looks and feels like a 5 star hotel. Unfortunately our unfinished and dirty room with safety issues left us veteran travelers extremely disappointed with this hotel chain. Based on our experience so far, the Majestic Elegance in Costa Mujeres Mex4ico is neither majestic nor elegant.

"Review"
KevinsDonnelly, 19 Décembre 2019

Beautiful room in a beautiful historic hotel. Wonderful staff with great advice for navigating this huge, confusing, remarkable city. But if its sleep you want, just remember the Mjaestic is right across from the main square of the a county that loves to celebrate. I My only quibble is the wi-fi signal was weak

"The center of the universe "
FamousOriginalBob, 18 Décembre 2019

According to the Aztecs, the sky, the underworld, and Earth's 4 cardinal directions all met at the Templo Mayor, which is just off the Zocalo across from the Majestic Hotel. And staying here truly gives you a sense of being in the center of the universe. The restaurant at the top of the hotel offers a commanding view of the entire plaza ringed with 16th century buildings, with the gargantuan Mexican flag flying in the middle. There is an inescapable feeling of history and momentousness here, as though the power and civilization of this amazing city is literally radiating out into the Valley of Mexico and beyond. The hotel is well secured and boasts an elegant 100 year old lobby and an old-timey elevator with an actual operator. The entrance is just off the plaza on Avenida Francisco Madero, a pedestrian-only shopping street that gets quite busy in the evening hours. Our room, 209, fronted right on the plaza and had an awesome balcony where you can waive to throngs of local and international tourists and pretend you're planning to give a speech. But to me, the Majestic's true calling card is the upstairs restaurant and its majestic (heh) view of the entire Zócalo. There were 2 significant drawbacks that keep this from being a 5 star review. First the food at the upstairs restaurant was old and boring. Second, the rooms are rather spare and the beds are very hard and move around easily on their wheels. Why this otherwise 4-star hotel offers one star rooms is beyond me. But the bathroom and tub were quite nice and the water pressure and temperature were quite satisfactory. This is not a hotel for people looking for something flashy and modern with all the creature comforts. It was perfect for someone like me who loves the bustle of a real city and feeling the layers of past civilizations who shared this same space and considered it the center of the world.

"Perfect location"
K_Kostov, 04 Décembre 2019

Best Western Hotel Majestic is the best located hotel in CDMX (MEXICO CITY). Beautiful baroc style building. We stayed in suite looking over the Zocalo square. Polite and helpful staff. Clean rooms. The only one disadvantage is that according to location, the hotel is a litle bit noisy. I can reccomend this hotel both for bussiness stay and for exploring the city.

"Nice hotel, but very noisy "
paulaV8132CW, 24 Novembre 2019

The location is excellent and the room was clean. We were part of a RV Caravan tour and the hotel claimed that we didn't have a reservation despite our email confirmation. After a lengthy negotiation they gave us the 3 rooms we had reserved. Our room was on the 3rd floor above the street and was extremely noisy so we didn't get to sleep until 4 AM. It would be a simple upgrade to add seals to the windows and make them soundproof.

"Good location, interesting hotel, reasonable prices"
ATY39, 10 Novembre 2019

The hotel is in the very centre of the city. It is not new but has a soul. One can not expect all modern amenities but it is not one of "all the same in the world cubicles" to sleep in. Yes it is run down, yes it is noisy, yes it has no air-condition but it has a great rooftop restaurant with a stunning view on the cathedral and we loved our sty there

"Loud, Uncomfortable, and Unorganized"
Elisabeth B, 29 Octobre 2019

Traveling as a party of four adults and one baby, we checked into two rooms at the Best Western Majestic in Mexico City for 6 nights. We chose the hotel primarily for its location in the Centro Historico so that we could watch the Dia de los Muertos parade which goes through the city center. Although the lobby and general architecture of the building itself is interesting and unique, the hotel is in need of major renovations (as other reviewers have already pointed out). The rooms are very basic, the beds are far too hard, and the bathrooms desperately need upgrades such as installing fans (you can only crack a window at the moment and we found that sometimes putrid smells came in from outside) and fixing the plumbing (the shower was constantly switching from scalding hot to freezing cold and sometimes the water coming out was yellowish). The heritage windows are paper-thin, allowing every noise from the streets below into your room making it especially difficult to sleep at night (even with earplugs). However, our biggest complaint about the hotel would be the lack of organization from the front desk staff. When we booked the hotel online we indicated that we would be checking in around midnight (due to a late flight) and also asked to have a crib in one of our rooms for our daughter. We confirmed these details via email with the hotel a few days before arrival and were assured that neither point would be an issue. When we arrived around 11:30 pm our two rooms were ready, but the front desk told us that they didn't have a crib handy and that they needed to locate one. They said it would be brought up to our room within 10 minutes. About an hour later we were still waiting for the crib and after a long day of traveling our daughter was desperate for sleep (our rooms only contained single beds so we were unable to safely put her to sleep in one of our beds for the time being). By approximately 1 am the staff had found the crib but informed us that one of the collapsible sides of the crib frame was broken. My husband then proceeded to try to fix the broken crib with the front desk staff. By about 2 am we gave up with trying to fix the crib and had no other choice but to use it as it was. The next day we asked the front desk again to fix the crib, but they didn't send anyone to fix it until we were able to speak with the manager two days after we had checked in. The manager ended up offering us our first night free for the trouble. The disorganization of this hotel seems to be on another level entirely. We also requested a couple of extra towels for our room (traveling with a baby!) and often had to go back down to the front desk to pick them up as no one brought them to our room for several hours. Despite all this, we did find the housekeeping staff to be friendly and helpful, however, I would not recommend any travelers of any age to book this hotel. There are simply too many other properties in Mexico City that far exceed the quality of the Best Western Majestic. Don't waste your time and money.

"Please renovate this hotel. The noise is unbearable"
Sightsee40818203163, 20 Octobre 2019

This hotel looks great from the outside and has an amazing location. With that however, it's subject to much of the noise pollution from outside, and the thin walls do nothing to alleviate it. There was a man who was chanting something on a megaphone all night long every day. The metal chairs being dragged around in the upstairs restaurant also echoed throughout our room. Our hotel key cards also didn't work some times so we had to walk down and up four floors to the reception because the manually-operated elevator wasn't always available. WiFi and outlets sometimes did not work. Beds were also rock hard. Hotel staff was kind and helpful enough.

"Pretty Hotel, Terrible Service"
MarieE1992, 27 Août 2019

This place wouldn't even deserve one star if it weren't for how clean it was kept. We arrived very early before check-in, knowing full well that we likely would not be able to get our room until later. We asked to pay an early check-in fee if a room were available (I work at a hotel and know how annoying it can be when people just expect to be given a room way before check-in). We were told it'd be ready around 10/11am. We store our luggage and are forewarned about how noisy and crowded the area would be because of the marathon and a concert going on the entire day, and were given a brochure for a bunch of random tours. No recommendations- just “here's are tours to stay away from here”. We come back at 11 when a huge mass of marathon finishers and watchers are swarming the hotel, only to be told our room wouldn't be ready for another hour. And when our room is ready an hour later, we are placed on the second floor facing all of the noise and bustle we were forewarned about. Like, are you kidding me?! I get that we are only staying two days, but we came in so early that it was clear we'd need rest. Instead, we're welcomed to our room with booming music and whoops and yells for marathon finishers. Just ridiculous. The noise didn't stop until 10pm. And even then it continued as we were right in front of a crosswalk at that makes loud bird noises when it's OK to cross and a man and woman preaching with a megaphone. And as another reviewer mentioned- the beds were rock solid which only made it worse. Every time we entered and left the hotel, we found that our “hellos” were returned by the staff with weirdly unkind smug smiles and stares. We eventually just stopped even looking at them. As pretty and historic as this hotel is, I would never stay here again. It's noisy, there's no AC or heat forcing us to open our balcony doors to the noise below, and the housekeeping staff came into our rooms to take our towels while we were gone for breakfast. We kind of wanted to shower before getting on the plane- guess not! Stay somewhere else. Spending a little more money might get you a long way.

"Interesting place, great location, horrible service"
InkOttawa, 26 Août 2019

We stayed at the Best Western Hotel Majestic in August - our second time there. We picked it for the location (right on the Zocalo) and interesting historical vibe. It still doesn't miss on those two fronts. If you're looking for decent customer service, peace & quiet, or any amenities however, it's terribly lacking. As might be expected with a hotel from the 1930's which hasn't been updated much, there is no air conditioning or soundproofing (in relation to the outside, neighbouring rooms OR the hallway). Even the light from neighbouring rooms and the hallway filters into the rooms in the middle of the night. As well, the beds are like a rock (we felt like we were camping, which is great when one is in the wilderness and planning on a camping trip, but not so great in a hotel). Finally, the service was horrible. We had to ask for everything and there was not an adios or even an acknowledgement of us leaving as we headed to the airport at the end of our stay. Shame on us for trying again - we would have been much better served with a nearby Airbnb.

"Location is the key"
dlb3, 13 Août 2019

Interesting historical building located in the heart of old Mexico City. Rooms were adequate and staff were good. We stayed in two different rooms during our tour of the area. The interior rooms have windows that open into the 6 story atrium, unfortunately we were on the second floor which meant our windows opened at the level of a lobby area with people at eye level to our room. I would avoid interior 2nd floor rooms. Exterior rooms look out on either a large, historically rich city center or onto an outdoor pedestrian friendly shopping area that goes on for many blocks with great restaurants. Speaking of restaurants, plan to take advantage of your free breakfast buffet each morning, the view is wonderful. We tried dinner there one night and were disappointed with the food.

"Historic Building, Adequate Rooms"
bobcapune, 06 Août 2019

For 200 years, the Hotel Majestic has occupied a prime spot on the Zocalo. It sits across from the National Palace and next to the Cathedral. Request a room with a balcony to see all the action: The flag-lowering ceremony, colorful Aztec dancers, a couple protests and countless street musicians. With such amazing sights, you'll forget about the small, overly firm beds, the uncomfortable chairs and spartan furniture.

"Great Hotel for the Price and Location "
GCKoala, 26 Juillet 2019

I stayed two nights here. I had a room with an atrium view, which was fine as on the next floor up was the restaurant with views of the main square. Room was basic but had all I needed. Note the power points are only Mexican, and there are no USB ports in the room. But as long as you come equipped that's fine.

"We're glad we stayed here."
ghoell614672, 25 Juillet 2019

If you decide to come here please understand that this Hotel is on the Corner of the Zócalo which can be a little noisy at night but the activities seem to close down just after 10:pm. But if you want the Best Place to have access to all the things to see and do in Mexico City, then this is the first place you should be in. There is the subway or tour buses just outside the Hotel's Doors. Anything you want to see or do is within walking distance. Can't wait to come back and visit again!

"Best views of the zocalo"
betty l, 03 Juillet 2019

This hotel has one of best views of the Zócalo. U can have breakfast at their rooftop restaurant u don't need a reservation to dine. The lobby is cosy and the hotel is housed in an old building infront of the Zócalo and in the pedestrian street leading to the museum of Bellas artes.

"Noise and Reservation-Paymeny"
Road01471291857, 03 Juillet 2019

Despite bad experience just days before I had to stay again because pre-paid through Booking.Com and would lose $. This go around, I had requested a window room in January and had email confirmation that such a room was booked for me. Upon arrival, staff said no window room available, no discount or offer made to make better. Room was hot and stuffy. To allow circulation, opened bathroom ventilation window, but then smells came in. The inner atrium window helped, but then you had all the noise and echoing. At check out, the staff tried to charge me! They could find no proof I had paid via Booking.com.. As I searched for the email confirmation, the line to check out grew. Just as I pulled up my email, the staff found the verification of payment. No apology.

"A historic building without a soul"
sandymallik, 28 Juin 2019

The view and building is good, its over 100 years old. The rooms facing the square are decent, give you a good sleep. The amenities are adequate. BUT... The place lacks a soul. The staff need to learn the art of hospitality: tight lipped without a smile - the manager adrian wasnt rude but a suffering soul. Carlos was best amongst the rest- he is new and hopefully change the feel of the place. Overall if you dont bother about the staff and take it as a building you are staying at this place can help you soak into the historic mexican experience. A few problems - getting an uber is tough. They cant get into the road infront.

"Great for student travel"
Jorge C, 20 Juin 2019

We took over 30 students to stay at Hotel Majestic for a week, as part of an immersion course. This hotel is centrally located in the hear of the city, just across from the Zocalo. This is not a luxury hotel, granted, It works perfectly for students who will be out and about throughout the day. A large breakfast buffet and rooms with standard amenities fit our needs. Also, we were able to hold an event (with appetizers and drinks) on their terrace that worked out great.

"Come for the view, stay somewhere else for comfort"
jmscott2016, 13 Juin 2019

Whilst I loved having a front row seat for the raising of the flag in the zocola every morning and just soaking in the buzz of being in a central location, the downside was the ageing hotel. With average temperatures of 38c, 80% humidity, my ageing self really struggled with not having air-con or a fan, stupidly leaving the windows open to then be eaten alive by the mozzies. Friends staying at nearby airb&sb had much better accommodation options for a fraction of the price. If hotels want to stay competitive, they really need to lift the product and service offerings.

"The view excellent, the room not so much."
Isabel D, 12 Juin 2019

This is a beautiful old building, with breath taking views of the zocalo and the cathedral. We stayed there awaiting to fly to Chiapas next day and came back a week later. Both rooms where clean and good size, the problem is at night, there is no air conditioning or fans, we use earplugs and left the windows opened, but it was still very hot and somewhat noisy. The second room we left the window open but we had to close the curtain because the lights in the balcony. We did not get to try the restaurant as they only had buffet available and we are small eaters, so the price was a little high for the amount of food we eat, but I heard the food there is great. Everybody was very nice and helpful, they got us private taxis when we needed them, be prepare to walk between one and 3 blocks to get to the taxi, since the zocalo many times is not open to vehicles. The price is good for what you get, if you don't mind the noise and heat.

"Unexpected disappointment"
eddieTampa, 09 Juin 2019

I'm not sure if everyone finds the comfort of an Air Conditioned Hotel a MUST these days. But we do. The Best Western website DOES NOT mention this Matter And this Should be clearly stated for Paying Customers to know so We can choose freely. It is nearly impossible to enjoy a vacation if you're unable to have a comfortable & restful night. I'm sure in winters days this Historical building could be a Warm stay... but definitely Not during Summer!

"A Matter of Priorities"
AmeliaJ97, 04 Juin 2019

If you'd like a silent night sleep in a modern hotel, this is not the place for you. But if you are on budget, like historical buildings and would like to soak in the Zocalo, National Palace and National Cathedral, you'll have an amazing experience. Ask for a fan (especially if you've got a street facing room) get out your ear plugs and enjoy watching the lively streets of Mexico City! One of my trip highlights will be seeing the flag ceremonies (8am and 6pm) from my room. I'm a light sleeper but for the price, I still enjoyed my four night stay.

"No air conditioner!!"
Beach48, 31 Mai 2019

Unfortunately we stayed here for a first time visit to Mexico City. Our experience was extremely miserable. This hotel has no ac and not even any fans to provide. It's literally a rat hole and rundown. Its old, ugly and dirty. The balcony had wires all over the place, this was dangerous. Also, the employees are not the most welcoming. Never again !

"Great location, but yes, the noise is rough"
eldosokyjl, 27 Mai 2019

This hotel is in a great location--right on the Zocalo and on main pedestrian streets with lots of shops and restaurants. About a 10 minute walk to the Palasio de Bella Artes and the Torre Latinoamericana. The staff was very very kind. We arrived very late--like 1am--due to a flight delayed and a long customs line. I was worried we would have issues checking in because I had a weird issue booking the hotel (through Booking.com, not with the hotel itself). When we got there, I explained the situation and they gave us a room and told us we could change it in the morning. The rooms don't have any air conditioning but you can ask for a fan (if they have one). This first room seemed very basic, but the water in the shower was only cold. It was an interior room where the windows were facing inside a sort of courtyard. When we switched rooms the next day, they upgraded us to a nice junior suite on the 6th floor. Nice windows over looking the Zocalo and also it allowed some good breeze in the room while sleeping. The noise, however, is rough. Mexico City is a huge place, so you have to expect noise. I was able to sleep, but I did wake up a few times. Overall, the staff made the hotel a pleasure to stay in. All the front desk staff, elevator staff and others were very kind, welcoming, and accommodating. If you are a light sleeper, bring some earplugs. The view is incredible so you don't wanna miss that!

"Horrible experience "
aroojw2019, 19 Mai 2019

Horrible experience!! I am staying at the hotel as I write this review. There is no air condition in the room no fans and if you open the window to let the air in, tons of mosquito will come in couldn't sleep at night even for an hour my whole body is covered in mosquito bites I even took picture to show it to the management they did nothing I ask if they have another room with air condition they said no I ask if there is a fan I can use they said no they were completely unhelpful. The location is great but please please please Don't book this hotel you won't even be able to sleep for one hour.

"Hotel at excellent location and affordable rate"
952thomasc, 22 Avril 2019

First, I would like to say it is value for money as I think the location is excellent. You will be in a nice historic building in the Zócalo area. A lot of places are in walkable distance, and a lot of traditional / cheap restaurant are nearby. The bed is not big but very comfortable. I stayed for 3 nights, there will be some minor stuff you might want to know for your consideration. 1. Due to some reason, I needed to use the laundry service, however, I was told that I need to wait for the next day for the laundry, it seems that they don't have laundry service everyday. 2. My itinerary was to go out early, therefore, I woke up at before 0600, and it was found that there was no hot water before 0615, during my stay. 3. The safe in my room was locked by the previous user, I reported to the concierge, the issue was never follow up during my stay. Anyway, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wouldn't mind the noise and wish to have a convenient location, and who doesn't mind the minor issue.

"Great option "
the_exploring_marco, 21 Avril 2019

Felt really good with my decision to stay at this particular hotel. *The location was unbeatable, along a lively pedestrian only street with loads of shopping and restaurants. *Excellent value for a well maintained historic property with fantastic views. I paid less that $80 per night for a spacious king room with impressive views of the Zocalo. *Front desk staff not that friendly, but elevator operators(yes this hotel has that) super friendly. Email communication was a challenge, customer service is not their strength. *The Zocalo is noisy, DUH, if you assumed otherwise than you might be a bit slow. It's a major city and this is the main square, I shut my windows at night and it wasnt bad. It definitely adds to the ambiance, which I loved. *The hotel was clean and I always felt safe

"Great Location"
CasaA, 13 Avril 2019

Located right n the main plaza. Very good staff. The hotel is in a heritage building so don't expect new amenities and decor. The rooftop restaurant has a nice view and decent food. Nice bar. A little noisy because of its location but great for shopping. Walking distance to most attractions in the centro. Very safe surroundings.

"Amazing view to the zocalo"
Zazil M, 30 Mars 2019

It was a great experience and service. the view to the zocalo was incredible, except that they fail to explicitly say in my booking that due to the festivities and September celebration the windows of the rooms are blocked, people was working all night to be ready for the 16 de sept party. we probably slept 3hrs. But it was just a bad time/day we happen to be there, otherwise would have been amazing.

"Great views, right in Downtown Mexico City!"
JHall1030, 25 Mars 2019

My daughter and I stayed for one night, during a layover. Glad we did, we were right there in the middle of the Zucolo (Town Square) We were able to visit the downtown Cathedral and see all the little shops and hawkers with their hand crafted gifts. We could walk every where, which was nice. As for the room , although we had a balcony, with a GREAT VIEW, be prepared there was NO A/C! Luckily for us, it was a cool night and we had the balcony doors open (street noise and all) Not good for a light sleeper. We had twin beds and they were on the firm side. BUT for One night it was OK. The roof top restaurant was amazing with the historical views and good breakfast buffet for about $12 per person. My daughter and I enjoyed it, if you aren't expecting much for a room but want the historical value and view this is the place!

"OUTSTANDING"
Climber45337911878, 20 Mars 2019

Perfect choice for the discriminating tourist. Best location, best price, best rooftop terrace resteraunt. Most accomadating staff having excellent communication between themselves and with guest speaking english. I highly reccommend Best Western Majestic to any first time tourist to Mexico City.

"Noisy Hotel!"
CanadianSeniOr2015, 19 Mars 2019

This hotel has the greatest location, right on the Zócalo/Plaza de la Constitución in Mexico City. However, exactly because of its location, it is extremely noisy: crowds, traffic, political speeches, striking workers, protests, in Zocalo with megaphone or microphone, proselytizing by religious fanatics also with megaphone or microphone, constant drumming, garbage trucks, etc. at all hours. We only had 5 days in Mexico City and were touring each day, so were very sleep deprived at the end of it. Other hotels in the area, like the Gran Hotel, would have the same noise problem. Apparently, Mexico City either does not have, or does not enforce, noise bylaws. It is an older hotel, maybe even stately once upon a time, but lacks amenities, such as air conditioning, refrigerators in rooms, or pool. It has a lovely terrace restaurant overlooking the Zócalo which had a nice Sunday brunch.

"great place to stay on the zocalo"
slahc2001, 06 Mars 2019

wonderful views of Zocalo and close to everything. Within walking distance of major tourist sites and close to tourist buses. staff was great. clean, bright room. no AC but a fan was adequate to keep room cool. breakfast could be improved for the price charged.

"Charming Reliving of the Past"
dstack7, 06 Mars 2019

The Majestic can be equaled but not surpassed in location right on the Zocolo. It's life as a hotel dates from 1937. The rooms are spare but more than adequate. The tile and wood floors are lovely. The talavera wainscot on the stairway is very lovely. The bathrooms are modernized just enough to maintain a historic charm but have the comfort of modernity. The rooms facing the street can be a bit noisy. The rooftop restaurant and bar give a marvelous view of the Cathedral and the government buildings and of the surrounding area but the arranging furniture in the restaurant can be heard in the rooms below. The shopping nearby is very enjoyable. Two of Mexico's best department stores are only a block away. There are fabric shops and tailors nearby, dress shops by the dozen and for Catholic shoppers there are shops specializing in Baptismal, First Communion, Quinceañera and Wedding attire. There are very fine restaurants nearby, museums and other art venues.

"What a location!"
Cdnclan, 03 Mars 2019

The location can't be beat! The room was clean and quite spacious, the staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful. Views out window of he square was great! The cons are that if you have a view, then you will hear everything out the window. I heard the call of drums beckoning me, so I had to find them as the sound carried from a distance away. Apparently the rooms facing the interior are not loud. The only other downside was awkward location for outlets. But it is a historic hotel - bet they didn't know I would need outlets in a convenient location to charge devices. I'd stay here again!

"Great location"
Tramper89, 22 Février 2019

I stayed in this hotel before and after an Intrepid tour (5 nights). The hotel is located near restaurants, shops and tourist attractions. Accommodation appears to be either adjacent to the mall and street (great views but can be noisy) or facing the courtyard (windows for fresh air but no views). I stayed in a room facing the courtyard, which was very quiet and had plenty of space. There is a restaurant/bar on the top of the building with great views of the city. I loved having breakfast here and watching the sunrise. The staff were very helpful.

"Lunch with a Spectacular View"
Ootskapiinii, 13 Février 2019

On the recommendation of a lady from México City, we found the Best Western Hotel Majestic and took a historical ride to the seventh floor in cage elevator. There was an elevator operator!!!! We had a spectacular view of the Plaza de la Constitución o Zócalo, The National Palace, Supema Corte de Justicia, and The Metropolitan Cathedral (Catedral Metropolitana). The views were mesmerizing. Lunch for me and my wife was a bowl of Sopa Azteca which was very very good. For 2 the cost was $180.00 pesos. I also had a Cerveza Pacifico @ $55.00 pesos and my wife had colpa Chenin Blanc @ $100.00 pesos. Total bill was $335.00 with a $65.00 pesos “la propina” which came to $400.00 pesos. This is a must see and do if you like soup and a view.

"Only one positive point : the central location"
O3056LHmarcb, 13 Février 2019

The central location is the only postive point for this hotel. But there are several negative points. The room has no air conditioning, no isolation, you are constantly aware of all the noises of the neighbourhood. Not even a refrigerator in the room. The elevator is vintage .

"Outstanding experience"
O1483PXterrys, 10 Février 2019

The view, the view can not be described zocalo ,cathedral, government buildings. Museums within easy access. What really makes the majestic is the staff all bilingual but most of all caring and concerned that all guests are comfortable. Love this place ....

"Great location. Beautiful historic building. Noisy rooms"
ramadave, 15 Janvier 2019

Spent a total of five nights in the hotel (two visits- once at the start of the tour and once at the end).Loved the location right on the Zòcolo in the Historic Central District. Loved the updated, fresh, clean condition of this historic building. Great service and well trained staff, especially Adan in the dining room and Mr Collins at the front desk. Just a few complaints - the seventh floor terrace restaurant was a terrific place to eat and view the plaza below, however the only meals available were buffet style. Lot's of choices but like most buffets the quality was marginal. They also has a bar connected to restaurant but they discouraged you from going to the bar...like they're forced to have a bar for it's customers but really don't want that kind of business, which for us it would of been a terrific place to meet up with our friends after a day of sightseeing but they made it so difficult to use the bar we ended going someplace else where they appreciated our business. Their loss! The best part of the hotel is it's location across the street from the main plaza is also the worst part of the hotel. All the rooms facing the plaza(which should be their "best rooms" and command the best dollars are all subject to the street and plaza noise which is horrible. Unregulated, high volumed, amplified religious rantings lasting for hours rattled the historic single paned window and couldn't quiet this noise. Additionally, trying to out amplify the rantings some idiot of the street below our window was blowing a trumpet sporadically for hours! Not playing music, just blaring out an awful sound. It surprises me that the hotel and/or local tourist industry also such behavior that offends so many people for so long. It seems there is no regulation or permits required and no one tells them to turn it down or regulate the amount to time they can annoy people. And yet at the same time the presence of armed police around this popular plaza is overwhelming. Not just a couple of police but hundreds scattered around the area...and while I don't understand the threats maybe it's just a matter of "perception" to the tourists that it is a safe environment. You'd think that maybe with so many police with nothing to do but look at their cell phone (which they were all doing) that maybe they could actually protect the tourists' ears by making the street hawkers turn down the volume!!!!

"Stayed in December & January for a few nights."
Loza1976, 14 Janvier 2019

The hotel is in a great location with lovely views from the restaurant. The entrance, reception is lovely. I stayed for 4 nights at the beginning of the trip and was in a room that has not been upgraded and the carpet needed a good vacuum. (The cleaners swept the carpet so it was filthy). At the end of the trip I stayed in a refurbished room, it was like being in a different hotel. Others on the tour stayed in rooms just below the restaurant and said the noise was awful. It was fine on the 4th floor.

"Good hotel but oh, my — hospitality not friendly! "
Hillgirl8024, 29 Décembre 2018

I am staying at this hotel at the front end of a Mexico cultural tour. It is a great location and the room is clean and acceptable with comfy bed and pillows. A little more friendly and welcoming attitude from the front desk and restaurant staff would go a long way toward improving the visitor experience. Customer service does not seem to be a strong suit. The WiFi does not work at all, and the nearest ATM 2 blocks away had a long line. What is with the scarcity of ATMs in this city? Strange. If I visit again, I would look for a more tranquil location, but it was OK for just a couple nights.

"I was not happy with this hotel. My room 204 was facing Madero st. It was loud and noisy at night."
Angelina V, 27 Décembre 2018

I stayed at Best Western Majestic hotel on Dec. 25. At around 5 p.m. I knew my room would be loud and noisy all night. I went to the desk clerk and requested a quieter room. He said all the noise would die down at 10 p.m. and that he had no room available as all the rooms were booked. I went to bed at 9 p.m. putting pillows in between my head but could not sleep. I was waiting for 10 p.m. since I believed what the desk clerk said. By 11 p.m. the noise continued. I knew I would not be able to sleep. I called the desk at 11 p.m. requesting a quieter room and I was given Room 314. The desk clerk on duty at 5 p.m. lied to me. He said the noise would die down at 10 p.m. - not true! He also said all the rooms were booked. Not true! I will stay here again knowing the desk clerk lied to me. I was finally able to sleep around 12 MN. The shower water also took a long time to get hot.

"Perfect spot right in front of the Zocalo square"
rodriguezana63, 07 Décembre 2018

We stayed on the 2nd floor with a balcony... it was fun and comfortable for us to see all the activities happening on this busy area.... we had the opportunity to see a very important political event from the comfort of our room and balcony.... they have a nice restaurant with a big terrace where they sere buffet on the top of the building. This is the perfect location to know Mexico, within walking distance you will have some of the biggest attractions Mexico has to offer, like the Degollado theater, Torre Latinoamericana, and many other buildings... you can also visit the cathedral and the city tour hop-on-off buses park 1 small block from the hotel, or you can take a tricycle ride around town...you can move around very easily from this property. An important thing to mention is that even though we were on the 2nd floor, we could hardly hear the noise.

"In the centre of the action, an elegant, historic location"
Mary-Jean P, 28 Octobre 2018

The Best Western Hotel Majestic is right on the famous Mexico City Zocalo (city square). It is a century-old historic building, clean and with a lot of character. An incredible view of the Zocalo from the rooftop restaurant. Just steps from taxis to everywhere, and from the major hop on/hop off tour bus stop. Loved the vintage elevator, the staircase, the high ceiling in our room with the floor to ceiling paned glass doors out onto the balcony, overlooking the Cathedral and National Palace. Even with all of the other places to stay in Mexico City, we would stay there again.

"Very dissapointed"
pat8635, 27 Octobre 2018

Their group of over 30 and would have given up less Stars if the front desk staff and been so accommodating. I'm going to rate the restaurant separately because it was absolutely awful. Old hotel slightly updated my room was on the side of the square. The book fair kept my room too noisy to be in until 9:30 every night. Many guest didn't have hot water in the shower. If money is your main concern this is a great location, however there has to be a better choice someplace. Bed was only good because I was exhausted. I had to run around in the shower to even get wet and it was only hot to very last day but mine wasn't cold ever. There's only one elevator and has to be done by staff as it's an old-fashioned manual control and it's very slow. Staff at the restaurant but sends 70 plus year old women back down to get their breakfast ticket even if their ticket just had the wrong date on it. With the ancient elevator it was a real bad experience.

"Good location - bad hotel"
Jill V, 19 Octobre 2018

The good things - If your all about location this is the place for you, located steps away from The Historical District with lots of shops, restaurants, historical locations and night life in walking distance. Sergio at the front desk was fabulous, when he was working things would be take care of quickly. They have a beautiful lobby and security at the front door, and there is a beautiful view from the restaurant. The bad things - The walls are paper thin, you can hear every sound in the halls and surrounding rooms. There was only one elevator, you could wait up to 20 minutes for it. The beds are very uncomfortable. Every night we had to have our key remade as it wouldn't work, since the elevator took so long we would climb the stairs, one night we had to make 3 trips down 4 flights of stairs before they got it right. The rooms have NO air conditioning or heat. If your in an inside room their is no way to get any ventilation the windows open to a inside central lobby, so the rooms get very stuffy and smelly. We asked for a king bed and got twin beds, and were told most of the rooms have twins beds and they cannot control if no beds are available at check in. The linens, towels sheets and blankets were itchy and tattered. The shower, sink and toilets looked like they had never been cleaned. The service and food in the restaurant was terrible, the waiters were rude, and forget having a drink with your meal, even water would often not come until dessert. So great location, and Sergio did his best to fix everything, he is the only reason I would consider ever going back there, so if your booking a reservation be sure to check and make sure he is not on vacation that week.

"Great location, lovely hotel and staff - TAKE EARPLUGS!"
A_Cubed, 16 Octobre 2018

The hotel has the best location in town overlooking the Zocalo. The staff are very helpful. When we arrived we were offered the choice of two rooms, one on the 3rd floor and the other on the 6th overlooking the square but we were warned that the 6th floor would be noisy due to the restaurant/bar being directly above. We tried the 3rd floor room but switched to the 6th due to the street noise. The restaurant closed around 11pm and there was no more noise from above until breakfast. Unfortunately around midnight trucks pulled into the square and work started on erecting tents and stages for an event at the weekend. This carried on for every night of our 4 night stay including a sound check that finished at 3.20am - No air conditioning - No double glazing - Great location - lovely staff REMEMBER EARPLUGS (and remember the earplugs)

"Location"
Dawst, 15 Octobre 2018

You can not beat this location! The hotel is perfectly situated to view life on the square. The hotel is old and in need of some renovation but is perfectly acceptable, clean , and comfortable. It is noisy, so bring earplugs if you can't ignore loudness. A wonderful, characteristic hotel. Be aware of what you getting and be prepared but definitely recommend this hotel.

"So Much Noise"
Juan C, 02 Octobre 2018

The building is definitely beautiful. Old style. But so much noise and I was in one of the inner rooms, so can't blame the people on the street. it's absolutely a place to avoid unless this is your first time in CDMX. Not recommended.

"Location is amazing"
Mark V, 01 Octobre 2018

The location of this hotel is unblivable. We were a group of 10 with 7 rooms for 8 nights. All agreed the location and the character of the hotel was perfect. If you are sensitive to noise while sleeping, bring ear plugs. Top floor is very noisy at 7:00am every day due to rooftop restaurant dragging metal furniture around. Staff are bit cold but very helpful when needed.

"Needs renovation "
RodrigoSigal, 06 Septembre 2018

Although this is an excellent location the rooms need a renovation. Tv worked but no remote. Very noisy and food at the rooftop restaurante is average. Location is great and views are amazing. Traditional hotel next to the main square (zocalo)

"Don't do it, worse Best Western property"
FXTIP, 18 Août 2018

I stay at Best Western properties often, 15 different hotels in the past year. I am almost always pleased with my stays,. This is one that BW needs to lose. My room was loud, funky and smelled of roach killer. I was moved to a interior room that was even nastier, no remote and when one was delivered I had to wrap tissue around it for fear of contracting something This room also smelled of roach spray. It contained 2 hangers In a scary closet. I left the light on in it all night. It was after midnight when I checked in due to delayed flight, otherwise I would have departed this beat up place. Cabs/uber cannot access the log by so have a nice walk to catch one. The Hampton Inn and NH Centro historical are nearby and both are worlds apart better then the raggedy old Majestic.

"A day-and-nightmare"
seerathazir, 18 Août 2018

The most deceptive impression of an hotel ever! An old hag of a building with a great facade but bang in the middle of the old city centre which is a 24/7 fish market with drum beating and street vendors crying hoarse. Constant loud noise from the streets. Banging doors, and clanging elevator doors. Echoing footsteps in the hallway. Wanted to rest after a long night flight but simply can't get a wink of sleep. It's just hell. And no refunds,so stuck here for the next 3 days. Had no idea it would be this bad. Checked in only this morning and am already considering saying goodbye to the 200 USD paid in advance and move to another hotel. It's unbearable! my advice is if you like the old architecture, admire it from the outside, but don't stay here.

"Perfect location for first timers to CDMX!"
Michelle B, 30 Juillet 2018

This is a very charming hotel with absolutely wonderful service, especially the front desk which is ready and helpful with transpo, tours, and tons of other things. Plus the breakfast buffet is fantastic (get it included with your room) and in a beautiful dining terrace overlooking the Zocalo. Be prepared to not have enough electrical plugs and to have to ask for a working coffee pot and to get used to the rhythms of noise from the Zocalo (which quietened by 10pm most nights). This is an older hotel, but we couldn't have been happier. Will we stay again? Since we've fallen in love with CDMX we will explore other areas of the city, still for the first time visitor this is a great location central to most sights and great dining experiences.

"A Hotel With Character"
Suzanne S, 14 Juillet 2018

This hotel had some real positives, but also some drawbacks. Would I stay there again? Yes! Positives: Great location Charming, old building Good Wi-Fi Amazing king-sized bed Large rooms with high ceilings Window overlooked Zocalo Square Negatives: No air con 2 days out of 5 my room was not cleaned by 4:30 pm Frayed towels and worn bed linen Very noisy outside (and thus inside) Very little space in the bathroom to set out cosmetics My outside window was not secure but the handyman brought a metal bar to make it safer No washcloths Squeaky floors

"Overall experience was great!"
RonSanLuisdelaPaz, 02 Juillet 2018

We were there specifically for some events taking place on the Zocalo. When we found out our room was an interior room with no view, I gently complained that we had booked far in advance so we could have a view. With no further prodding the check-in clerk gave us the option of a smaller room but with a wonderful view. That's how it was for our entire stay, the staff always being helpful and kind no matter what our needs were. I cannot say enough good things about them. The hotel itself is of course older but it is so beautiful and has so much character. There are times we like a new, shiny and modern property but for this trip we could not have been happier and I can't think of a better location. I was actually pleased with how well maintained this hotel was because I was expecting maybe less after reading some other reviews. The Zocalo side was particularly noisy during our stay (due to the above mentioned activities) but it didn't really bother us, although it is something to consider if you noise bothers you.

"Charming Hotel at the Heart of DF"
aibarra2018, 28 Juin 2018

This hotel was perfect for my needs. As a first time visitor to DF it was super helpful to be in the heart of major tourist attractions. We were blocks away from the Temple Mayor and just across the street from the Mexican White House, the Palacio National. There was easy access to stores for things like medicines and all kinds of restaurants and snacks. The noise level was high since the World Cup was going on, but it was fun to be able to access games and concerts just outside my door. I don't think I'd stay anywhere else when I go back. The staff were super helpful which I think is standard, but make sure you put out your "do not disturb" sign up for the morning if you want to sleep in because the cleaning ladies are very prompt in showing up first thing.

"At Mexico city's core"
Berthaki, 16 Juin 2018

This old hotel is in a perfect location at the core of historical center. Rooms are reasonable. Staff is very friendly and always tries to help you. For example, I complaint when some European guests were smoking in common areas and they solved the problem instantly. The only negative point is the breakfast, if included, it's expensive and looks like a tex-mex brunch. So it's better to walk around and have a simple breakfast in one of the many cafeterias in Plaza Mayor area.

"Avoid this place"
gurusdakini, 14 Juin 2018

Greetings! If you want: Uncontrolled noise from activities on the Central Square in front blasting the whole neighborhood at early hours on the PA, and in the interior atrium rooms, noise from vending machines. If you have to ask repeatedly what happened to my laundry.... If you wake to find a flood in the bathroom floor.... And cockroaches in the bathroom Shall I bother continuing the list??? Got the picture??? And I paid in advance....no refunds. Go figure. Have come here over the years and now this is the last straw. I love Mexico but this is the worst.

"Excellent in all ways!"
Elizabeth S, 19 Mai 2018

I'm astonished to read so many bad reviews, when my stay was excellent in all ways. I have stayed in CDMX at least once a year for 35 years, principally staying in a hotel that is no longer open. I decided to stay here based upon location. I was given a room on the 6th floor with a balcony and French doors overlooking the zócalo. It was not particularly noisy at night, and generally quite quiet after 11. The furniture was old fashioned, but charmingly so, I had no problems with hot water, WiFi, comfort of the bed, or cleanliness. The staff was friendly and helpful. After the second morning, the waiters remembered that I like steamed milk with my coffee, and automatically brought it to me. I will stay here again.

"A lot to improve "
genaro_paredes, 17 Mai 2018

Great location, renovated rooms, however they have a serious problem with cockroaches and general cleanliness of the place. Although I never used the coffee machine it was filled with water (at least it was full for two whole days). If you're up for watching cable tv some channels work (local broadcast) and others at times (cable channels). For sure I won't come back again.

"Great rate for the location "
Jnjiemtz, 08 Mai 2018

We decided to select this hotel for the location and the inexpensive price. It's right off the corner of the Zocalo and within walking distance to many places on our to see list. We were gone most of the two days we were here, so the rate was perfect. The room is really small and does not have AC, which was only an inconvenience at night but we simply opened the windows. The bathroom was roomy but didn't have hot water one day. We stayed on the 4th floor facing a wall, so no view. The elevator was annoying as it required staff to work, we often just took the stairs to avoid bothering staff. The building is old but staff are very helpful and friendly, I'd recommend this hotel for the location alone!

"Not sure I will stay here again!"
leonelh531, 27 Avril 2018

I should be kind here because I realize this is a really old building, and an old hotel. There are a lot of majestic things about it for sure, and it's in a great location. However there are a few items that guests should note if they plan to mix some business with pleasure. 1. Lack of electrical outlets - I had to move furniture around to access outlets for my laptop, and for chargers. Even to plug in the coffee maker, I had to move the TV dresser out of the way to plug it in, and rest it on the floor. 2. The internet is somewhat unstable, thought it was fine most of the time. 3. The room itself leaves much to be desired. It could really stand some basic redecoration so it doesn't look so 1960. I mean, it's under lit. The carpet looks old and the furniture is quite a drag to look at. 4. Being in the heart of the city, it's difficult for taxi to reach the hotel. It often requires a block and a half or even longer to walk with luggage to reach hotel. This is due to the roads which are often closed at night time around the Zocalo and adjacent streets. For some meetings I had, given the traffic in this area, it was faster to walk a than to have a taxi come to collect me. It made for good exercise. No complaints about that. 5. Temperature was fine during my stay but I should mention that the air-conditioning is lacking. The room does have a 3 speed fan. But that's ok, I was able to find a great rate so perhaps it doesn't give me the right to complain. My comments above are mostly for guests which are here on business and willing to trade some pros and cons. This hotel is near so many tourist sites around the Zocalo, and also many great little cafe's and shops.

"A Classic Hotel"
jfandrc, 25 Avril 2018

The Hotel is idealy situated on the Zocala, an enoormous Square in the Heart of Mexico City. Overlooking the Presidential Palace and the National Cathedral. The Staff were friendly and efficeient. My only complaint was the unavailability of Ice machines, Guests had to got the Bar on the Top Floor for Ice.

"Great location and breakfast value for money"
73m, 23 Avril 2018

Old style charm even if no mod cons like cooling and reliable wifi. Had a room overlooking Zocalo which was lovely except very noisy right through the night with sirens, drilling at times (?) and the pedestrian crossing sounds every few minutes! We had to leave the window open the second night due to the heat which definitely didn't help but it was still noisy with windows shut. The breakfast buffet was big and included hot chicken, crab on one day (!), stews as well as the usual breakfast fare of scrambled eggs, cereal, fruit etc. I thought there was plenty to eat. Having said that overall I think it's an ok place to stay but perhaps with an inside room and low expectations of luxury. It is a perfectly adequate hotel and we found the room well cleaned every day.

"Awesome Location !!"
MJMaher, 12 Avril 2018

We are staying here right now. The hotel is beautiful inside. Old School Beautiful. The staff is fantastic !! Our room looks directly over the plaza and a fantastic view. They have a bar and restaurant on the top floor with unparalleled views. If I had one suggestion is that they should make the restaurant more of a restaurant with menus for dinner because this location cant be beat and they would do amazing business with those views in the restaurant. This is the only place I would consider staying next time we come back to Mexico City and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Very safe location and the plaza is really quiet at night. We keep the windows open and the noise is minimal

"Nice hotel, priceless location"
Andrew C, 09 Avril 2018

I didn't read reviews until after I had booked our stay at the Best Western Hotel Majestic and was a little concerned about some of the things I read, but let me tell you our experience was a very good one. First, the hotel. It's an old hotel and the rooms are clearly not what you'd find in a more modern hotel. The mattresses are a little too firm. The furniture is old, but not worn. The showers can be a little tricky. There is no air-conditioning and the rooms might get little stuffy in the warmer months. The building and the rooms have an appealing, colonial feel to them, although the hotel itself was only built in 1925. The rooms are simple, but well furnished and clean. There was and in-room safe for security, and our bathroom was very clean and appeared to have been recently remodeled. The free Wifi worked just fine. The location is unbeatable. Our room had a spectacular view of the Metropolitan Cathedral, Presidential Palace and Zocalo. The windows open up to take in all the sights and sounds. It felt like we should be paying a lot more for the location. There is a rooftop restaurant which serves an excellent buffet breakfast (included in the price of the room) which has an equally spectacular view of the Zocalo. It's an incredible place to enjoy breakfast and to start your day in Mexico City. The best thing of all was the service we received. The whole staff was consistently helpful, courteous and friendly. I felt like everyone went out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome. We traveled with three kids and they were able to accommodate us in one room with two queen sized beds and an extra roll-away bed which was nice. I should also add that the security here is quite good. There is one entrance that I could see which is constantly monitored by multiple staff on-duty 24/7. The area around the Centro and Zocalo has a heavy police presence and it is quite safe to walk around the area at most times of the day. There is a subway station a block away, and it's an easy place to find a taxi or catch an uber. Would definitely stay here again.

"Any complaints seem goofy to me."
Doug H, 04 Mars 2018

I read reviews where people said the shower ran all over the bathroom floor. Well NOT IF YOU PUT THE SHOWER CURTAIN INSIDE THE TUB. Complaints about the buffet: I don't get it. Lots of great fresh fruit, pork chops, chicken dishes, freshly fried tortillas, good juice, all you can eat for about $10. I stayed here 20 years ago, and again for 8 days just recently. The location and architecture are fabulous, the staff very helpful, bed really big and comfortable with lots of pillows. The only slight thing I missed was a reading lamp, as the ceiling lamp wasn't really designed for that. I also got a decent deal on my stay. Also my laptop fit nicely in the in-room safe.

"5 Days in Mexico City"
gmaxward, 04 Mars 2018

Hotel is very centrally located right on the Zocalo, close to Metro, close to many restaurants, basically close to everything. Hotel is old, that is the charm, the staff was more than friendly. Breakfast was excellent, view from restaurant was incredible. Is our 2nd time staying there and reservations staff could not be more friendly and helpful. This will be our hotel for all future trips as well.

"Great location"
Daniel G, 22 Février 2018

Hotel is not the best in look. It has the historical feel, but rooms are quite old. Location and price are good for what you get. It's literally in front of “El Zocalo”. Lots of restaurants near by, try “Azul Histórico” and “Taqueria Arandas”

"Great view from roof top bar"
HannahMistral, 17 Février 2018

The rooftop bar/restaurant should be packed with customers, the view of the Zocalo is amazing, instead it was empty. Best Western, you need to do something to improve the ambiance and you would be busy every night. You have the best location in town, yet the place felt dead. I have to say we did enjoy our cocktails but were not tempted to stay for dinner.

"Right in the Heart of the City "
MrsOregon2009, 17 Février 2018

Old historic building over looking Avenida Madera. We had our choice of an inside room with no window and a king sized bed or an outside room with a view of the city and twin beds. We went for the view. We had to go buy my husband some earplugs but we don't regret the view. We watched as all the people walked by on a busy Saturday. This is not a 5 star Hilton, but for the price and the experience I found nothing wrong with it. The twin beds are nice and firm. There is a flat screen TV (don't forget to ask the front desk for the remote control). The staff were all very nice and friendly. If you can't sleep with noise you will either want an inside room or another hotel. It is noisey late into the evening.

"We love this hotel"
robertronan, 10 Février 2018

This is a great location to tour the City from. In fact, I doubt there is a better location. The Hotel staff is very friendly and have good contacts for reasonable private tour so one doesn't ever need to take a public taxi. We have stayed there five times over the last six years, each with a different group of friend/relatives. The breakfast is wonderful too.

"Dated but delightful!"
edith h. f, 09 Février 2018

I've stayed @ the Majestic w 2 successive husbands over the past 30-40 years, and now with son just 2 weeks ago. I still like it a lot--BUT furniture is dated, rooms are drab, old-fashioned--like a few Paris favorites! You MUST stay in a room facing the Zocalo, which I always have; they're terrific--old French windows opening onto the scene which includes early morning & sunset serenades by the army as they raise, lower the flag. Food/service are good in the dining room-same wonderful view of cathedral, national palace, Zocalo. Ancient Aztec city is just around the corner. Rooms are spacious, clean, just OLD furnishings. Front desk helpful. Inexpensive, the perfect place in M-City in terms of price, location, views, service.Just be sure to be ON the Zocalo side!

"Very average hotel but good location - rooms facing square better then inside rooms"
michael g, 07 Février 2018

Rooms clean and vary by floor - avoid staying on 6th floor which is below restaurant Breakfast very poor Food service poor in am and very average other times Not on top of it's game Area is ver convenient to government attractions

"Excellent location"
330lynt, 06 Février 2018

Rooms overlooking the square are interesting, but can be noisy. We asked for adjoining rooms, and actually got THREE rooms, with a living room between, for the same price as two rooms. Clean, nice restaurant on roof, with views of course. The hotel entry is on a pedestrian only street, and when we were dropped off by the taxi around 11pm, the hotel's outside lights were out, so we walked right past and around the block by mistake. There are many homeless sleeping in that area at night, but we did not feel unsafe at all. Hotel is in 100 year-old building.

"Majestic Hotel in Mexico City? A shameful sham."
RFussell2015, 29 Janvier 2018

Do not stay here under any circumstances. My mother and I came to this supposed 4 star hotel expecting the excellence that its heritage promised. After all, it was located right on the zocalo in the historic district of Mexico City and had been a favorite, famous place years ago. Except for its location, this hotel is an embarrassment to the Best Western chain that now manages it. The people who should have been the most polite, the front desk clerks, were rude and dismissive, even though I speak excellent Spanish, especially for an American. They did not go out of their way to help my 90 year old mother who arrived a day earlier and who doesn't speak Spanish. The elevator man was the only friendly, respectful person there, apart from the maitre d who isn't really connected to the hotel. The water was barely warm, the keys didn't work and we had to rekey them four or five times during our 4 day stint. But the worst part of this experience is that my iPad Pro was stolen right from its zipped up case in my room. The irony isn't that no one touched it while in cheap hostels in Bolivia, but here,in a fours star hotel in a suppos d safe part of the city, it was taken. After searching the downstairs and maids quarters, we decided go to the police, who were wonderful. Upon our return, I found that my computer had been mysteriously returned and placed under the sheets. Of course I was thrilled that it had been returned, but the hotel continued to deny any involvement in this incident. Shame on the people in this hotel for putting us through this ordeal, for their denial, and for their dishonesty.

"The Majestic Dethroned"
Betty F, 21 Janvier 2018

Warning: Don't stay here. I came with my daughter expecting the glorious place I'd stayed in 35 years ago, right on the Zocalo. An architectural gem built in 1937 for Jazz Age stars. No more. Not just a relic but a wreck. No heat, no reliable hot water, room key cards that fail to work, surly receptionists (I was required to pay for entire stay in advance), unusable lobby, a franchised restaurant with the same buffet for breakfast, lunch & dinner. WORST: My daughter's costly iPod Pro was stolen from a zipped case in our locked room while we were out. Management stonewalled. We went to the police and made our report. After we returned late that night & prepared for bed, under the top cover of the newly made bed , the iPod had magically reappeared. We've traveled to Mexico many times over the past decades and stayed in many kinds of hotels from Chihuahua to Chiapas, but this is the first time we've left a hotel with anger and distrust. Best Western should end their franchise with the once but no longer Majestic.

"Great location, old and tired room"
Phillip S, 14 Janvier 2018

We stopped here for our last 5 nights in Mexico. The hotel entrance is tucked down the walking precinct so our taxi driver missed it on the first attempt! Reception staff were welcoming and we were shown our room on level 5 with a window onto the central atrium. It was noticeably old, with worn carpets and a very dated bathroom. The carpet had quite a lot of hair and debris in it, like it had not been vacuumed for a while. We thought this may have just been missed and maybe done the next day, but did not seem to have been done at all during our stay. The atrium can be quite noisy as sound echos from the seating area on level 1. This was really noticeable when chairs were moved, screeching on the floor, I do recommend ear plugs. Hot water seemed a little erratic, sometimes just luke warm, but ok for most of the time. The rooms facing the zocalo did seem more modern and well kept from the little we saw. For the price we paid, we would have rather had a newer quieter room at the Hampton by Hilton just down the road, this appeared to have much nicer rooms for a similar price. Then if you fancy a view of the zocalo, you can always go to the Zocalo Central Hotel for dinner!

"Gabi"
Gabi G, 06 Janvier 2018

Stayed at this hotl. Location is the only thing good about it. Rooms are old, bathroom floods after a shower no hot water and I had problems with hot watet. Very bad maintenance throughout the whole hotel. No heating system in the rooms , whem the Temp. outside is below 10 degrees .

"Just O.K."
vicriver, 04 Janvier 2018

We stayed here during the holidays. It was Very noisy until midnight. The Wi-Fi was insecure and spotty in the room. It was only spotty in the restaurant. Our room was not cleaned on two of six days. We had to ask for water and coffee. There were dust kittens we could have named under the furniture and the floor was never swept. Most of the staff were helpful and friendly. Location- great.

"Do NOT stay here if you need wi-fi in your room!"
Storm C, 03 Janvier 2018

They'll tell you all the rooms have wi-fi. What they don't tell you is that the only place it actually works reliably is in the lobby. The routers on all other floors are antiques that fail constantly. If you don't want to spend your entire time hassling with the internet, forget this place. If wi-fi isn't important, it's a great location with good staff (except for the "technician" they send to fix your wi-fi, who doesn't have the slightest idea of what he's doing).

"Not worth it"
LABN, 02 Janvier 2018

Stayed at this hotel for the location. Probably is the only thing good about it. Rooms are old, bathroom floods after a shower and I had problems with hot water throughout my stay. My room was noisy and internet never worked properly. It seems theyhave modems hanging on the corridors for all rooms to share it. I am the kind of person who prefers spending money on other things rather than in accommodation, but this hotel is a trap. Not reccomended at all.

"Unfriendly service"
S&C L, 29 Décembre 2017

We dropped in at the rooftop terrace restaurant with the family for a quick refreshment. The terrace has an unbeatable view over the Zócalo (the city's main square). The restaurant was not busy with several empty tables. Nonetheless, we were not allowed on the terrace unless we purchased the full buffet. They would not accommodate our family for a 20 minute stay notwithstanding many empty tables and instead directed us to the outdated, unwelcoming interior salon. The door captain was respectful but condescending.

"Outdated, snobbish"
Verena W, 27 Décembre 2017

Good things first: the location is great and the building itself is truly majestic. However, the room was not clean and the bathroom was not cleaned even after telling the staff repeatedly. The receptionists were unfriendly and snobbish, and didn't provide us with any useful information as individual travelers. Other guests were loud and rude in the corridors as well, I guess that's the kind of clientele the hotel attracts in Mexico. Definitely no value for money and no recommendation.

"Amazing Zocalo view and incredible staff!!!...just beware of parking."
Mantequia, 09 Décembre 2017

My husband, parents, and I had a wonderful stay at this historic (16th century) hotel. The location right on the Zocalo main square and along the pedestrian-only Madero street can't be beat. The view from the rooms (505 & 605) were incredible. We're grateful to the staff for putting us in the spacious corner rooms on the 5th and 6th floors, even though we booked last-minute. This also made dining on the 7th floor very convenient. The restaurant has the same terrific view, and the food was very good. The chicken was tender. The waiter recommended a carafe of the house beverage that was like a local twist on sangria (red wine, apple juice, mineral water, cinnamon, and floating cubes of papaya and melon). Yummy!! The service was excellent, and we all especially enjoyed speaking with the sommelier (so sorry I didn't get his name.) He was very informative regarding wine in Mexico and Latin America, and obviously loves what he does. The breakfast buffet was also excellent. We payed extra for that, although I think it's usually included with the stay. We booked using a 3rd party online, so no breakfast. It was 200 MX pesos per person--expensive for Mexico, but very good, and we had table service for coffee. When the waiter knew we were waiting for pancakes, he brought the new batch out on a plate for us. Since this is an older building, I had the luxury of an actual tub to take a bath in! The beds were comfortable and the rooms reasonably updated in old-fashioned style. Of course, this is a 500 YEAR OLD building. And it is downtown in a major metro area. If you want five-star luxury with perfect peace and tranquility, don't come here in the first place. We heard music from the square until about 10 or 11pm, and then some rather bad, drunken, a cappella karaoke on some sort of loud speaker for another hour after that, but nothing a pair of earplugs couln't fix. Early morning was calm and quiet. My parents said the floor in their room was somewhat dirty, with a dried spill of some liquid. My dad appreciated the hotel decor with old black and white photos and antique wooden carriage wheels on each level. The talavera tile was lovely, as was the atrium. Beware that parking in this area is a headache. Parking is not provided by the hotel. The ramp they recommended was full and the entry was being blocked. My husband eventually parked about 4 blocks away for the outrageous fee of about $50 USD for less than 24hrs! In all, this was a special place to stay to appreciate the history of this ancient city. I would stay here again!

"Mid 20th century Charm in the Heart of Mexico City!"
I7034ZKtimothyh, 04 Décembre 2017

The magnificent Zocalo with all of it vibrancy is right out your bedroom window...though even on a Saturday night it quiets down sufficiently for a good sleep by midnight. That being said, if you don't want the "feast of sound and light" be sure to ask for a room facing into the inner courtyard.

"Staff behaviour not good"
Deep4103, 24 Novembre 2017

After our 28 hour flight from india, we reached to hotel @ 2PM... Hotel manager told us check-in time is 3 PM.... I have told them about our flight & it's a matter of 1 hour only.. But manager was not supportive. Manager gives us rooms after 3.15. Location is good. But uber will take time to pickup. Rooms were too old. Furniture is also old.

"Day of the Dead in the Zocalo - PERFECT location"
andria p, 05 Novembre 2017

From the moment we checked in - we were treated to superior service. The concierge went out of his way to provide us with excellent suggestions, private, day-long, hired drivers, and general local custom tidbits. We had a room on the second floor with a balcony that was on the main strip - gorgeous views of the City Square and Cathedral. The rooms were charming and clean, and the beds very comfortable. Access to the Metro only a 5 minute walk, and shops, convenience stores, and restaurants just next door. If you want a "quiet" experience, ask for a room facing away from the street - as the sound tends to stay pretty loud until about 11pm - but I loved it - the energy was electric and we expected that during the 3 day long Day of the Dead festivities. There is a roof-top bar and restaurant - but to be honest the food was the worst we had in Mexico. Not authentic at all - it was more of a mish-mash of bad American dishes....(think Vienna sausages in gloopy sauce, and ill-prepared chicken cordon bleu.) We ate breakfast and tried a dinner buffet but felt really disappointed each time. Luckily, there are many places to eat in very close walking distance and street food galore - which was just fantastic. I am planning to return to this hotel due to the excellent location and truly superior service.

"Affordable and convenient"
RobertoMurphy, 03 Novembre 2017

This hotel is located on the main square in Mexico City (Zocalo), which makes it an ideal home-base to walk around downtown, which is full of museums, churches, impressive buildings and many restaurants. The hotel is old (80 years as a hotel, but in a much older building), but it is relatively well kept. The price is very reasonable, especially once you consider how much you will save on taxis. They serve breakfast on a terrace on the seventh floor, with a very good and varied buffet. The downside is very poor wi-fi service.

"The centerest :)"
Ulas O, 03 Novembre 2017

If you try to find where the city center is, you should stay in hotel majesic. The ambiance is unbelievable . 5 minutes to templo mayor, 3 minutes to cathedral and near the turibus Breakfast is not so good and a few type of food. Rooms are historic, hot water come late when you turn on it

"Beautiful old hotel"
Karen C, 23 Octobre 2017

This is a beautiful hotel with the tiling, the atrium etc, but unfortunately we did have some problems during our stay. We had a standard room, perhaps a more expensive room would be better, however - the bed was uncomfortable and the bedhead banged on the wall every time I turned over; the bathroom was very old and worn; the curtains were very dusty; our first day there was no bathmat in the bathroom, the second day we had no towels at all and had to ask; we left a bag of laundry for collection and ticked same day return and it was collected, but not returned. Luckily we still had one more day left and it was done and returned that last day. On the plus side - the main areas of the hotel are gorgeous - reception, the atrium, the staircase etc; the location is perfect, we had a view of the Zocalo and cathedral and there are shops and restaurants close by; we found it very easy to walk to a lot of places - the Cathedral of course, Palacio Nacional, Templo Mayor, the Secretary of Education Building with Diego Rivera murals, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Museo de Arte Popular - all within walking distance; the reception staff are friendly; we had the included breakfast in the rooftop restaurant, which was very nice.

"Could be better"
leopefe, 28 Septembre 2017

I always wanted to stay in this hotel with amazing view to the 'Zocalo', view was great. I think the overall condition of the rooms could be better, room was clean but old... I like the classic architecture but I couldn't get hot water in the shower.

"Highly Recommend!"
mikeleach677, 15 Septembre 2017

The location of this hotel is PERFECT. Right on the Zócalo, I could see the Cathedral from my window. The hotel has a very nice view on the Palacio National. And even if your windows are looking at the inner yard it is still pretty. There is a restaurant, buffet style on the top floor. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, and the room was a great value for the price. The room was nothing fancy, but it was still good. Highly recommend!

"I was disappointed"
arntrip, 13 Septembre 2017

For about 25 yrs this was my favorite stay. Central or walking to everything in the Centro. But they have not kept it up. The rooms and baths need renovation. The top floor restaurant was expensive, had no wines by glass, and limited menu. It used to be much better. We had a room overlooking the Zocalo, but construction kept us awake. After some trouble we got a quieter room. But with no outlets for charging. The Wifi was very poor. Wait til 3am to get online. Also, the street has been closed to traffic so you have to go to the corner for your cab. Though there's a good French bakery next door. I think there are better places to stay nearby.

"Choose another Place"
gurusdakini, 08 Septembre 2017

Greetings Travelers, so here is the real skinny. I have stayed here several times over the years and so decided to stay again. What I can truthfully tell you is this, room was really disgusting. Floor dirty, shower curtain so short that it barely covered tub and water on floor, maybe that is why there is a drain in the middle of the bathroom floor. Cockroach in bathroom. Sent clothes to laundry and they wrecked 2 pairs of my pants and when I took them back to the reception, no apologies. Paid a handsome price for the laundry. So now without clean pants. Night time pervasive smell of sewage wafting in the room. Requested initially a quiet room and was given one facing the main square and noisy until 10 pm. Chair in room needs repair. Breakfast in upstairs restaurant way overpriced, and for the fixed cost, they charged extra for expresso. And since there are many choices of places to stay, check out another place.

"Could have been better"
erikaaL4604IM, 02 Août 2017

The check-in process was not what I was expecting. I was meeting a relative in Mexico City and when she called to try and make a reservation, she was told they did not have a parking garage to accommodate her vehicle. When she asked what their guests did with their cars, she was told she needed to figure it out on her own. Very disappointed I wasn't able to stay in the same hotel as the rest of my family. The staff could have offered suggestions or been more respectful when declining her requests.

"Location!"
Suzann F, 25 Juin 2017

Surreal views from second floor corner suite with three balconies and rooftop lounge and restaurant. Superior service provided to us at all times. More furniture and better lighting is needed. I highly recommend for location. I used hotel points and got a great deal, the posted cash price I observed was premium. As others have said it is extremely loud at that corner! Bring earplugs if you expect any sleep. No air conditioning, fair water pressure.

"Sounds of the city in the middle of everything"
426royh, 13 Juin 2017

This is an beautiful hotel inside an ancient building which is in the middle of everything. The room was clean and well-appointed. The view of the Zócalo (plaza), the flag, the National Palace and the large flag was wonderful, but depending on whether or not you want to hear the sounds of the city, the sounds could be an issue for some. Street traffic, activities at the Zócalo, cathedral bells and (at least in June, 2017, construction activities in the plaza that went on all night long) could keep one awake. There is no air conditioning, nor heat in the room, I understand that is rarely an issue, but it did require that I had the window open for fresh air... and the sounds of the city. I wanted a Mexico City experience, and this hotel delivered. If someone wanted a quieter experience, I would recommend an inside room which faces away from the plaza The hotel is close to the plaza, and Madera Avenue is a pedestrian only street with many restaurants and shops. I enjoyed every sound, every minute in this hotel and will return to to it the next time I visit this wonderful city.

"Lovely viewing"
Alonso F, 10 Juin 2017

I stayed this hotel with my family just one night, but was a nice evening there. The viewing from balcony is excellent, staff very nice. Bathroom gets to much wet when you take a shower. You can walk around just leaving the main entrance. Elevator very old, but so much nice, l love it.

"At the center of it all!"
SimonOnvacation, 23 Mai 2017

If you are looking for a hotel that is at the center of it all, then book a room in this hotel. If you prefer a quiet location, get one that is facing the Atrium or the center of the hotel. However, it becomes noisy when people talk loudly in the premises. If you want to get the view of the plaza, ask for a room facing the Zocalo square. A higher floor if you will since the street noise can be loud too. Cars, people and the church bells can be heard from these outside rooms. As for the rooms, we got a double one with a king bed, and it was spacious and provided an excellent view of the Square. The room was clean with a TV, alarm clock, coffee maker and hair dryer. The 7th floor/rooftop restaurant provided a very nice view of the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Zocalo Square and the old National Palace. Please note to all travelers that there is no A/C in the rooms of the hotel, but you can ask for an electric fan be brought to your room, free of charge. Same applies to the bottled water in your room, they're free too. Wi-fi is spotty at times. For the hotel location, you have a bakery, a convenience store, an ice cream shop, a taco place, lots of small stores, currency exchange, coffee shoppes, among others - all within walking distances of this hotel. If location to you is important, then this is at the center of it all.

"Great hotel, great location"
terrybL263DB, 18 Mai 2017

I love this hotel, personnel is very friendly and professional. The location is great, very close to museums, things to do downtown Mexico City. The lobby is nicely decorated. The rooms are comfortable.

"No Thanks"
Mike B, 07 Mai 2017

I've been here since Thursday afternoon and leave tomorrow morning. I wanted to leave this review since it's fresh on my mind. Location, location, location is all it has Walking distance to just about anything you need. Can be seedy at night though. You can hear all the people walking down below and police blowing their whistles all day and night Has an Old, rustic feel with squeaky floors Have been here for 4 days and didn't see any females working the front desk, in the lobby or in the bar In the room; No AC or heater No ceiling fans No fridge or microwave No ice machine anywhere, have to call desk to get some ice delivered to your room or go buy some next door Very loud inside, thin walls, workers were slamming doors at 7 a.m. This morning (Sunday). WiFi can be spotty at times Bell from cathedral next door rings often and loud everyday, it's been ringing nonstop all day today. I requested room with 1 bed and got one with two. Went downstairs to ask and was told they were sold out. I will not stay here again. Feel free to send me a message if you have any additional questions or clarification.

"It is just OK"
428acil, 01 Mai 2017

Pros: It has a nice view on the plaza, the rooms are tidy and clean, nice terrace on the last floor. Cons: too noisy as it is very close to the pedestrian street, no air conditioners, wifi connection is terrible, and the shower didn't have hot water at all times. If you're on a budget and want to stay in the center of the city then it is okay.

"In the center of Mexico City"
renka787, 23 Avril 2017

This hotel is located at the Plaza. The restaurant is located at the top of the building on the 6th floor, with beautiful views of the plaza. Here they serve breakfast. There is manned elevator up to the individual floors. But a bit worn with noise from the pedestrian zone until midnight. The room was large, clean and tidy. The staff at the front desk were not so service minded, but the restaurant staff and cleaning were friendly.

"Older but interesting property with a great view of the Zocalo"
John P, 17 Avril 2017

Stayed here for a couple of nights in March 2017. Located right on the corner of Madero (a pedestrianized shopping street) and the main square (Zocalo), the "Majestic" lives up to its name in an early 19th cenury sense. Now rather faded, but at one time it must have been truly majestic: masses of rooms around a large atrium, views of the government palace, etc. Our room on the first floor (2nd!) was ideal, staff efficient, and the price very, very low. I would heartily recommend it to any budget-minded traveller. There is a tiny French pátisserie right next door for a superb continental breakfast.

"Great place on the square!"
Bridget B, 06 Avril 2017

We stayed on the 6th floor. The view was amazing! Every morning we watched the sunrise over the square it was fantastic. The staff was outstanding. Helped us out in every way possible. This hotel is in walking distance to everything. Would go back. It's a clean and cute hotel.

"Good spot to be!"
Esperanza V, 04 Avril 2017

Excellent place to stay if you going to Mexico city. Nice view to the Zocalo, walking distance to El templo Mayor and Bellas artes museum, cathedral, restaurants, plenty to see arrown with out a car. My kids had lots of fun, on weekends they have events at the Zocalo and we got a perfect view from our balcony!

"Form over substance"
Ralph w, 03 Avril 2017

Okay, it is way cool location. My window opened onto the Zocalo and the view was spectacular. However, be prepared to walk your luggage down a cobbled pedestrian street. There is a tiny warning on the mirror that the tap water is not safe to drink and you need to let the shower run for quite a while to get some heat going. The amenities are a bit mid 50s but the interior decoration, sense of place and overall ambience are unparalleled. I'm glad I've stayed there once but I don't need to go back.

"Great Location.....very charming old hotel"
Roberto3250, 30 Mars 2017

The staff is great, the place is clean, the rooms are large, the windows open up, the views from the room are great, the buffet breakfast stinks, the location can't be beat...but remember that it is an old hotel. This is not a 5 star property...so it depends on what you are looking for. If you are visiting Mexico City to take in the history and beauty of the city, this is the place. If you are on your honeymoon and looking for room service and great a quiet place this isn't the place. I will however put in a plug for the restaurant that you must go to if you are in Mexico City, it is Pujol, and it is one of the finest restaurants in the world (really), so for the money that you save by staying at the Majestic you can afford to go to Pujol!

"Outstanding City Center hotel!"
Terry Kris Pudl... S, 27 Mars 2017

Perfect location overlooking city center government buildings and cathedral. Old world charm. Room had a patio to enjoy our view day and night. Friendly, helpful, attentive staff. Wonderful breakfast and restaurant. Could not have had a better hotel with better staff. Experience was perfect!

"Great location - know what you are getting"
Avg_traveler_man, 17 Novembre 2016

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days in November. We had a very late arrival due to airline schedules. We took an airport taxi and it was after 1am when we got to the downtown area. Since this hotel entrance is on a pedestrian only walkway, the cabs can't pull up to the door. On top of that, the cab driver didn't know exactly where the hotel was. He dropped us off a block from the hotel and then pointed us in the wrong direction. To make a long story shorter and to get to the point, we did find the hotel entrance but be aware that it is not lit at night and you can easily walk past it if you don't notice the Best Western flag high above the door. So, if you have never stayed at this hotel and will be arriving late, I would recommend calling in advance to get specific directions. Once we got to the hotel, all went as planned. As many other reviews have suggested it is an older hotel and very dated. We chose this hotel for the location and it was great for that. We had a room facing outside and loved it. We slept with the windows open each night and enjoyed the sounds of the area. Note that they can be loud. We did not eat at the hotel any as we already had other places we wanted to go. However, I have been in the restaurant before and it is a great view. The staff was friendly and helpful when we needed them. If you are ok with some of the pitfalls of older buildings but are looking for a place to stay with a great location and reasonable prices, then this may be for you.

"Right in the centre the zocola"
walkingWakefieldUk, 09 Novembre 2016

A really central location, so expect some noise. It is a real traditional colonial styled hotel, but this adds to its charm with tilled floors staircases and a lift which is of the last century. Breakfast is taken from the roof terrace, great views. For an evening meal the food is probably better else where. The staff are really friendly and helped us out on several occasions, the concierge went out of his way. The hotel can get you a taxi which knows where to park, because the hotel is in a pedestrian precinct and cars have difficulty in stopping as the police are on patrol

"This is a Cultural Experience."
Perseoind, 09 Novembre 2016

A Colonial City Center hotel with charming atmosphere. Walking distance to all major atractions and landmark buildings. Ecxelent restaurant and surrounded by the best and most reasonable piced eateries in the city.

"Beautiful hotel. Great service"
Johanna S, 06 Novembre 2016

Having read some of the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. I was really pleased to see many of the reviews weren't correct. It's a beautiful old hotel, the staff and service were fantastic at all times. Yes some rooms look into the courtyard (we had one) but that's the style of many Mexican buildings and hotels.

"Great location"
donnawatudu, 04 Novembre 2016

This hotel is in front of the Zocalo square. It is close to the restaurants and shops. The hotel is beautiful inside with an older feel. Staff were helpful and friendly. Our room did not have air conditioning so we opened the windows at night which opens to a great view of the square. We were exposed to the nightly celebration of the dia del muerto the entire time we were there until 11 pm. Our room was clean and had free bottled water. Truly enjoyed our stay

"Old world nostalgia"
leopard696, 04 Novembre 2016

When you enter the lobby you realise you are entering another world. The lift to the terrace restaurant with the lift attendant in full uniform is an experience in itself. The view of the UNESCO centro square from the terrace is a great experience.Dinner and drinks were enjoyable and the waiters were very earnest. The food wont win any awards but the hotel is so full of history the overall experience is not to be missed.

"What I expected-Overall great time in CDMX"
Steph112592, 02 Novembre 2016

This hotel was the most economical for our trip to Mexico City, and honestly we really got our money's worth. I wanted a hotel in el zocalo and we decided on this one. We felt very safe every night at our hotel and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Especially for getting us a safe taxi when we needed...We arrived a couple hours before check in and our rooms were not ready yet, however we were able to leave our luggage safely gated in the hotel by the hotel staff while we walked around el centro until check in time. The inside of the hotel is amazing. When I booked this hotel I read reviews and already knew it would not be "quiet" or a holiday inn or Hilton type of hotel. We understood that, and since we weren't picky which made us really enjoy staying there. We were so tired every night after exploring the city that the sound from the street below did not bother us too bad. It was pretty loud though if the window was left open, there was the sound of music playing, voices of people, cars, the cathedral's bell, organ players music that we heard EVERY SINGLE NIGHT(by the last night I almost couldn't stand it). We expected all that commotion though since we were staying in the middle of downtown! The restaurant was a little pricey and the food was decent. We really enjoyed the bar and would go almost every night! I personally enjoyed every second of being in Mexico City and this hotel!

"Best Location"
ctoriumi, 01 Novembre 2016

Just by Zocalo and can walk to La Opera, Café Tacuba, Sanborns de los Azulejos and other places in Centro Historico. Also many museums and markets nearby. Zocalo metro station is a few yard away to get anywhere in the city by Metro.

"Nice hotel, great staff, in fantastic location"
Valerie S, 13 Septembre 2016

I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. It's in a lovely historic building with all the issues that entails (fewer outlets, no HVAC not that it matters, and variable water pressure). all rooms have windows to regulate temp, but It's built around a central courtyard so interior rooms open onto common space. Staying alone, and as a woman, I was in room 214 the first night and didn't feel comfortable leaving (interior) windows open because anyone in the lobby could get in. Also, lack of natural light made me claustrophobic. They moved me to 409, a Zocalo/exterior facing room and it was much better. I felt safer and could open windows for ventilation. There was a festival going on outside, but location was the main reason why I picked the hotel so I didn't mind the crowd noise. Others might. I can't say enough nice things about the staff though -- very helpful and nice about my wanting to switch rooms. I think I got overcharged for the cab they called, but USD$10 rather than USD$5, which was what UBER quoted to airport. I got there and it was still cheap so I don't care that much. I did think it was neat that the elevator has to have a staff operating it because it's seriously old fashioned.

"Great location, great service, slightly old (but charming) fixtures."
viva_la_kim, 21 Juillet 2016

The hotel location can't be beat. Yes, it's noisy, but you're right on the Zocalo square, so it's expected. Our baby was able to sleep without a problem, for example, and all noise ceases to exist after about midnight except for the city's cleaning crew. The people at the hotel were very nice and attentive. They did everything in their power to make our stay satisfactory. The hotel itself is charming and still mainly furnished with original details. This is both good and bad. The elevator is awesome, but takes a bit to get to each floor. The hot and cold water in the shower is great, but the tub could use a tiny bit of a good, deep wash. It's an old school tub with very cute, vintage handles, but you can see the years haven't been exactly kind. Some of the other rooms in our party were renovated, but to be honest, I prefer the original fictures over the modern ones.

"GREAT LOCATION - rest average"
Don B, 06 Juillet 2016

Phenomienal location - historic district, close to subway, great pricing, very helpful staff, lots of amenities close by, and very safe. Our room was at the back near service elevator. The room we ordered was not available. Ended up with a similar room that we do not think is often used. Very noisy. Usual smells of big urban cities with windows open. A few changes would make it excellent - beds are too hard! Wi-fi is weak and slow. We had to sit in the hallway to get consistent wi-fi. If they put a small business center (computer and printer) in the corner of the lobby, improved the wifi (which would cost little) and improved the mattresses it could be very good. Also needs more electrical outlets. There was 1 open outlet far away from the bed - none near desk.

"Charming, Centrally located with helpful staff"
rosecontrerasnm, 23 Juin 2016

Great historic hotel at the Zocalo in the middle of all the action and entertainment. The lobby and staircase was decorated in the original beautiful colored Spanish tile. Room overlooked the cathedral and was clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful...we had our credit card taken at the metro and helped us contact the credit card company and made arrangements to receive the replacement card in 2 days all at no additional cost to us.

"Heart of historica zacola"
kerriejervisbay, 23 Juin 2016

Beautiful historic building overlooking the centre square of zacola. Walk to everything. Huge suite has everything. Staff very friendly and helpful. Speak English. Short drive from the airport 30 mins in traffic. Hotel has currency exchange for US dollars at great rate.

"Wonderful Vacation"
Roman9200, 22 Juin 2016

We arrived late but the desk attendant was very nice and got us to our room asap. We got a room on the 5th floor with a balcony facing the Zocalo. We were warned that it would be noisy but it had a wonderful view so we took it. It was loud, due to the people and the traffic, but after about 11pm it got quiet enough to sleep. The mattress was very firm but comfortable and we slept good. On occasion, we did open the balcony doors to let some fresh air in. The room was clean, the linens and towels were new and in good condition and there was no dirty carpet on the floor (laminate instead). The shower pressure could use improvement but being that this is a historic building, we took it all in stride. The staff were all very nice and were attentive to our needs. When I booked this reservation, I was somewhat nervous due to all the negative reviews I read but we found the hotel to be just as the pictures they show on their web-site. The hotel was great, the location, right in the center of the city, was wonderful and the price was very good. We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again!!!

"Perfect location"
Smeerebeer, 15 Juin 2016

Perfect location. We had an inward facing room, which was really quiet. King size bed where we could have easily lied horizontally if we had wanted to. The breakfast is a must-do, although it is rather expensive (200 pesos per person). Great place to start off your Mexico trip with a massive flag being raised at 8:00AM in the morning at the Zocalo.

"Better experience than previous reviews!"
DFWDave, 02 Juin 2016

My son and I arrived a little early and checked our bags while we ate on the Terraza. Lunch was mediocre, but the view was great and service good. The guy at the front desk was not especially inviting, but was nit rude either. We were able to check in about 1:30 and given a choice of 2 rooms. One on the 5th floor with a side street view or 2nd floor with a balcony facing the Zolcalo. We were warned that it would be noisy. We chose the balcony. It was indeed loud, but after about 11pm it did get quiet enough. I used earplugs to make sure, but slept well despite the Very Firm bed that the covers slide off of easily during the night. The housekeepers were very friendly and was able to bring us a stand up fan to get some air circulation. Not sure it would suffice in August heat though. The room was clean and the linens and towels new and in good condition. The tub drain was extremely slow and by the end of a shower I was wading in 3 inches of water ... tolerable, but showed lack of maintenance. I especially grew to appreciate being on the 2nd floor and a quick 1 flight of stairs so not to have to wait on the 1 elevator and elevator operator, though Jose was very nice!). I would definitely stay again. I know there is quite a bit of negative reviews, but I found the hotel nice, location Excellent, and price very good. I would also suggest the coffee at nearby "El Popular" restaurant. As well, we enjoyed the well known artisans market and the Color can area and Leon Trotsky museum.

"Great location but old building"
Miguel Enrique B, 31 Mai 2016

I stayed here last February and I really enjoyed the location of the hotel. It is an old building so don't expect anything fancy. At midnight you get a drain stink that is pretty bad. The food at the restaurant is ok but the service is pretty bad, Don't ask for draft beer because they don't know how to serve it. Other that this the hotel is just ok.

"great way to see the square"
Nic I, 27 Mai 2016

I visited the roof top restaurant here for lunch. You can sit under cover but outside and it commands superb views across the main square. The food is very Mexican and very good - their beans are worth going again for alone!

"Disappointed with the hotel!"
Jackie L, 19 Mai 2016

We were given a double room facing the internal courtyard of the hotel. It was noisy when they are guest sitting at the reception and talking. Their voices can be heard in our room which was on the 5th floor. The room has a musky smell from the old carpets, with very old furniture and fittings. Worst of all the bathroom was dirty with urine stains on the toilet bowl. It was disgusting! After our complains, the housekeeping did a thorough cleaning job. Our room didn't have a safe but some rooms do have. The restaurant is at the top floor and it's very old but clean. Breakfast buffet is not impressive but the view from here was good! The restaurant staff were friendly and courteous. Also, the lift staff were friendly too. Not one of the best hotel under the Best Western group! Hopefully the management will look into refurbishing the rooms before it get worst. This hotel has one of the best location in Mexico City.

"Very noisy, room well worn"
ejgola, 16 Mai 2016

the inner room was very noisy, echo up from ground floor. The carpet was well worn and not very clean Very cold in february had to wear jacket or heavy sweater in hotel Breakfast was so so. A fabulous view from the bar and parts of the roof top restaurant

"Lovely - if you get the right room..."
pie12, 11 Mai 2016

We eventually loved this hotel but it took a while to get there. The hotel is in an excellent and safe location in the city right next to the Zocala. The Lobby, hallways and hotel in general is a beautiful 1930s building. Really stunning and the terrace bar and restaurant looking over the Zocala is stunning. Our problem was with the rooms although this was eventually resolved. The Best Western Website stated that all rooms have a view. It later said that if preferred quieter rooms are available with an internal window. I took that yo mean that all rooms have a view unless otherwise requested. However we were first accommodated in a room with no natural light and a frosted window to the internal courtyard only. For me that is unbearably claustauphobic and also not what I had booked the hotel for. On request the staff moved us to a twin room with a window facing out. However this room was really shockingly dirty for a hotel room. As other reviewers have said the fixtures and fittings are abut shabby and need updating. I don't mind that - it was a good price and an older characterful building. However what I find unforgivable in a hotel is a lack of cleanliness. The room smelled emanating from the ancient soft furnishings I think. In addition the safe did not work. There was an interconnecting door to another room which was badly fitted so that you could see a little into the other room. The hotel advised that there were no other rooms available in the hotel (not sure this was true as we would know if someone was in the adjacent room but I think it was s higher grade room). The next morning I complained again and pointed out the dirt and they did move us to a different room. This was entirely a different story and was clearly redecorated, new soft furnishings, spotlessly clean and did not smell. Once in that room we were very happy with it and had that been the first or even second room they would have received s 5 star rating from me. I am shocked that they would let the other room in the condition it was - it was truly disgusting - so I think they need to ensure all rooms refurbed and a better check on cleaning standards as well as a reconsideration of the info on their website.

"Average hotel but you're basically just paying for the location and view"
Allison L, 26 Avril 2016

We read the reviews and were prepared for the noise, and happy to take ear plugs given its fantastic location. We also wanted an authentic mexican feel to the hotel we chose, rather than same old chain hotel you stay at in any city. It is a beautiful old building with history, I loved the tiled stairs and old lift with the gates and lift operator. But we were probably given one of the worst rooms there. ..despite only having choice of room or suite on the booking site and asking for a room with a view to the Zocalo. Yes there sort of was a view of you stuck your head right out the window and looked far to the right. The carpet was all torn, very old and grotty looking bathroom and towels and no other amenities like bar fridge, coffee/tea facilities, fans etc. Took 5 minutes for hot water to come on in the shower. But nice comfortable beds and no bugs so we slept well. We accidentally booked a twin room instead of a double and asked for a change when something became available. On our 3rd night we came home from a day tour out, and asked at reception again. This time we had such a friendly helpful guy, he showed us 2 options and one must have been one of their best rooms. ..big window opening onto the Zocalo on the 4th floor - perfect views without the restaurant noises people write about. There was a free concert on that night and we felt like VIP watching it all from our room. Yes very very very loud. ..but wonderful experience and that's what we were there for. We stayed in that room 2 nights. ..they forgot to give bottled water on the 1st clean and forgot to give us any towels on the 2nd...literally stepped out the shower and had to use the bath matt. Also for some reason the phone rang at 6am and then 7am waking us up, no one on the end and we did not book any wake up calls! The bar and restaurant is fantastic and one of their reviving features otherwise we wouldn't have stayed on. The staff in the bar /restaurant are so friendly and helpful, teaching us words and about mescal and tourist tips. The lift staff were also so gracious and smiling. The reception staff was less than appealing. ..kind of snobby and said the bare minimum and rarely smiled. Overall, reasonable hotel all about the view and restaurant on the roof with the view, but now we're at a hotel around the corner for a third of the price, with massive clean room and bathroom, already better than at the Western in terms of value. I would stay again if there was a gig on in the Zocalo for the view, otherwise not worth the money.

"Not worth the view"
TrvlmavenCalifornia, 14 Avril 2016

Best Western should either drop this property, it bring it up to their fine standards. I reserved three rooms for our group of six adults. We arrived 30 minutes before the printed 1pm check-in time. The desk clerk, without even looking up from his computer screen, told us to return at 2pm, even though by the time we checked our luggage with the bellman for storage, it was after 1pm. We decided to go to the rooftop restaurant for some lunch, but we were told there were only 20 minutes left in the buffet service. As we were starved, we went ahead and rushed through the limited (and being removed while we were serving ourselves) buffet only to see other patrons being seated at least 30 minutes after we arrived. When we were finally given our rooms (after 2:30) two rooms were on the sixth floor, directly below the restaurant where we discovered the sound of chairs scraping across the tile floors beginning at 7am and not ending until well after 11pm. The rooms were very sparse, with only three, very frayed towels in the bathroom (one hand towel, two bath towels). There was not hotel information regarding who to call, how to place a call or even hours of operation. Two out of three days we did not receive safe drinking water—we had to buy our own water to brush our teeth. The floors were not clean—one in our party dropped a lipstick that rolled under the bed. When she saw how filthy and dusty is was under there—she decided to leave the lipstick (a $10 lipstick) right there. When my husband walked across the floor after a shower, his feet became dirtier than before his shower. We ate dinner at the hotel one night—again, only a buffet. The computer system was down, and we were not able to charge the meal to our room, but they were able to process a credit card charge??? When we asked the desk clerk (who, again did not look up from his screen) about arranging airport transportation for six, he told us to just get three taxis (I am the only Spanish speaker in my group). I must complement the bellmen who were so gracious and kind—one even calling for a replacement van when our arranged (through an outside agency) van did not show up. The elevator operator heard us talking about trying to find ice, and he kindly brought ice to our room. They are the best folks at this hotel. Best Western needs to either needs to bring this hotel up to its standards, or drop this hotel as it fails to meet the expectations one has when booking a Best Western property.

"Beautiful but loud"
fclosson, 05 Avril 2016

Great views of the square. Great bar overlooking the square. The value was also good. The staff were friendly and helpful. The Hotel is right in the middle of it all. But it was LOUD at night and all day. Paper thin walls to the outside. Must have been a great place at one time but needs an update.

"Best views of the Zocalo in Mexico City - A very old hotel"
Radiohutch, 02 Avril 2016

Lynn and I recently spent two nights at the Best Western Majestic. The highlight of our visit was our 5th floor room overlooking the Zocalo and its famous cathedral. We had a large window. Our friends who stayed on the 6th floor had a small balcony. This was the best spot to view the ceremonial flag raising in the Zocalo by the Mexican Army, families at leisure at all times of the day and night and it is certainly the best spot to photograph the magnificent Cathedral. The accommodations are spartan. This hotel began almost 80 years ago in 1937. It still has its old fashion elevators with a human operator. There is a beautiful spiral staircase as well. The rooms are small. The bathroom is only adequate. There is no air conditioning. We snagged a floor fan from housekeeping and threw the window open wide. . Otherwise our room would have been unbearable. Water pressure was a trickle. Towels were threadbare. If you go be sure to request a room with a Zocolo view. The price was reasonable with our room costing less than $100 per night. There is a restaurant on the 7th floor of the hotel that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner which I will address in another review. That being said, this is the hotel that I would return to for the million dollar views of the Zocalo.

"Great Service, Uncomfortable Rooms"
Bets1212, 27 Mars 2016

This hotel couldn't be in a better location and the english speaking employees are terrific but the rooms lack the basics. The mattresses are as hard as planks, the few provided towels actually had frayed edges, there is no decor to soften spartan rooms -- not even a rug. One of our two rooms didn't even have an upholstered chair to sit it!

"Good location, Meh hotel"
alofasamoa, 12 Mars 2016

Have stayed her on a couple of occasions. Great view of the zocalo, raising of the flag. Historic hotel but they need to update the rooms. Beds are uncomfortable, bathrooms have a funky drainage system. Front desk staff helpful.

"Not Really a 3 star"
SurjM1, 03 Mars 2016

Though it has its charms and is centrally located it is now very dated. We stayed here for our first 3 days In February as part of a Virgin Treasures of Mexico Tour. There is no air conditioning, the outside rooms are noisy, the beds are hard and it gets very cold at night. We switched to an inside room. The shower was over a bath and the water did not run out as it should leaving inches of water around your feet. The towels were thread bare and the breakfasts were luke warm. The breakfast area should open at 7am, it opened much later on two of the mornings. There is no direct access to the hotel by car and as such you have to haul your luggage a block or two depending on where you are dropped off. The décor is stuck in time from when it was built making the building charming overlooking the Zocalo and Cathedral (central square) but this was enough to forgive the basics.

"Great view of the square"
Kim B, 01 Mars 2016

Just returned from a trip to Mexico to see the Monarchs. Our first two nights were spent in this hotel. We arrived a day earlier than our tour and were a little anxious about getting from the airport to our hotel. We followed the specific directions as to what to look for to make sure is was a "real" cab and it worked well. As soon as we left baggage claim there was a cab service and the guy spoke enough English for us to find the cab. Our driver was a young young and very friendly. Traffic is always CRAZY there and I am glad I wasn't driving. Only 3'4 miles to the hotel, but took at least 30 minutes. The hotel is VERY old. The first two floors are 300-400 years old according to elevator guy. In fact - the elevator is one of the old ones that has a latch that closes the door. King of neat - my first. Our room was on the fifth floor facing the square and I really liked that. The room was clean and the hot water worked well. No complaints about the room. Since the hotel is right across the square from the gov't buildings - the flag is raised at 8:00 A.m and removed just before dark. It is a big deal because the military does it with bugles and drums ( don't plan on sleeping in) Also you are beside a giant cathedral - bells toll every hour. I am a sound sleeper - so no worries for me, just be advised! There are lots of things to do in the immediate area well within walking distance. Obviously everything on the square, National museum, Museum of Modern art ( really liked this one), couple of parks too.

"Historic Hotel"
Alicia T, 27 Février 2016

I traveled to Mexico to see the wintering Monarch Butterflies north of the city. As part of my tour package this hotel was my first overnight stop. I was very impressed with the architecture of the building and the history behind it. I enjoyed a wonderful breakfast in the hotel restaurant which is located on the top most level. From there you can get a view of the sunrise as it comes up over the National Palace. The hotel is conveniently located across from the Plaza and the Metropolitana Cathedral. Surprisingly I found the rooms to be average and expected something a bit nicer simply because the hotel lobby and other common areas are very nice. The quality of the towels left a lot to be desired. Again, the plus is its proximity to the heart of the historic district.

"Great Servive"
Federico A, 25 Février 2016

the Grand Majestic is a beautiful vintage Hotel. The staff is great and friendly. Great location to museums etc. Value is average, for the same price the Hampton in is just down the street which has better updated rooms. The rooms at the Best Western majestic need lots of improvement, even those rooms that have been upgraded, still need to do better. Poor linen service, the bathroom linens can be considered old and dirty by just looking at them, need to improve.

""MAJESTIC" IT WASN'T--LOCATION ISN'T EVERYTHING"
Saildestiny, 09 Février 2016

The best reviews for this hotel all emphasized the location, what they didn't mention is that this is FAR from a three star hotel by US standards. We booked a standard room on line only to find that the only window opened into an interior closed courtyard, not to the outside. The room was marginal at best. Furniture old with draw pulls missing, the shower rod was about to fall off the wall and there was considerable dirt behind the one night table. The television was fuzzy, and there was no coffee maker or safe as indicated on the website. We were already committed and negotiated a price on a suite, but it wasn't much better as far as the condition of the room, although it did have fabulous views overlooking Zocalo Square and the Cathedral. Unfortunately, the bed was so hard that we asked for an additional down duvet to be placed under the bottom sheet--the staff is very accommodating and the fact that the hotel is so poorly maintained isn't their fault. They did everything they could to make our stay pleasant. There was a coffee maker in the suite if you like black coffee, but no in-room safe as indicated on the website. The furniture is quite shabby and the windows have not been replaced since the Majestic was built--hard to operate. The bathroom was unbelievably rundown--but there was good water pressure and lots of hot water if you don't mind standing in several inches of water while taking a shower because the drain didn't work despite the fact that the stopper was missing. The lobby and common areas of the hotel show some signs of maintenance, but the individual rooms, including the suite, showed significant wear and tear. The carpet looked like it had been replaced, but was frayed at every seam in both rooms. Light fixtures had energy saving BARE bulbs in most cases and where there were shades they were lopsided because they weren't designed for energy saving bulbs. In the bathroom of both the standard and suite, there was paint peeling off the walls and evidence of mold on the ceiling. Best Western should be ashamed of the property. It was obviously a wonderful property when it was built and deserves better treatment as far as maintenance is concerned. We will not stay here again, because we found other hotels with equally impressive views--check out Hotel Zocalo on 5 de Mayo. There is a restaurant at the Majestic where you can have a drink and see the view--don't recommend the food--buffet only and not impressive. If you like a comfortable bed and fluffy towels, this is NOT the hotel for you.

"Vacation Visit"
stefanc92, 07 Février 2016

Mexico city has everything that we wanted and more. The Best Western Majestic has a abulous location in downtown, historical, central Mexico City. Easy access to major tourist sites, facilities and services. Very appropriate for the location. Reasonable price.

"No in-room safe"
1travlgirl, 23 Janvier 2016

The hotel is in a great location, so that's a plus. And the price was right. But, it just annoyed me that there was no safe in the room (not one that has worked in a very long time anyway). I wasn't made aware of this when booking. Otherwise it was ok. The staff was nice enough, the room was clean enough, there was plenty of hot water, and the hotel provided drinking water. As others have said, the beds were rather firm (well, just plane hard) and the wifi spotty.

"Still majestic, just..."
Peter T, 13 Janvier 2016

The Majestic Hotel in Mexico City is brilliantly situated on a corner of the Zocalo right in the centre of the historic heart of the town, and its 7th floor restaurant overlooks all the action. Everyone who works there is charm itself; and the interior and exterior are beautiful with all the historic and original tiles, both on the walls and floors. The entire hotel slightly reminds me of The Shining. When we first arrived and went to our room, there was no phone, no coffee, no safe key, no alarm clock, no electrical plug covers, no WiFi, no shower stool and the door did not nearly, even closely, fit its frame. Our bathroom became a mixture of swimming pool and ice rink as soon as you had a shower. The hotel has six floors of rooms and the seventh floor is a public and well-known restaurant....and there is only one lift in the hotel, which is very distinctly manned by a bell-boy (I think on a changing rota of staff), and we could hear footsteps ascending the stairs all night (and all day) long with a strange kind of ghostly echo ringing throughout the hotel. Our key card did not work as often as it did, and this involved walking down and up six flights of stairs each time. All the walls had large signs as to what to do in case of either fire or quake...which to us was odd. The Majestic is also a smoking hotel with ashtrays at every elevator door. Apart from how nice the staff at the hotel are, my abiding memory will be of the echoes of the footsteps and the cold of the tiled floors and walls. We arranged airport transfers to and from the hotel through Amigo. These were a disgrace. Being met on arrival meant waiting for one hour and trying to identify our driver. For our departure from the hotel to the airport, our car meeting time was changed three times, and ended up as simply 'hold you suitcases in the Zocalo, and the driver will hopefully see you and stop'. Miraculously, this did happen, but the Zocalo is like Times Square or Piccadilly Circus. So, indeed, miraculously.

"Not quite majestic."
christopher r, 11 Janvier 2016

We were told we were given a quiet room. The quiet rooms are overlooking the quadrangle / reception area. Every noise can be heard from here. Also this room was directly below the restaurant kitchen, all noise from above can be heard here. The bathroom window is part of the void between buildings and possibly the rubbish is located at the bottom, all of the smell of stale rubbish comes in through the bathroom.

"Incredible location"
GuyFromPasadena, 04 Janvier 2016

Right on the corner of Zocaro Square. The hotel faces the Cathedral and Palace. We were there during the Christmas holiday and the enormous Christmas tree was right in front of the hotel. Could not ask for a better location. If you do tours such as on viator, Zocalo is the starting point for many tours. Restaurants, bars, sights, and festive crowds were around in every direction. The breakfast was fine, though the omelette bar was only on the weekend. The staff was helpful. The rooms could use an upgrade, but we were not in them long enough to feel put out. Only drawback was that wifi was everywhere but the connections were still poor.

"awesome view"
Elizabeth R, 28 Décembre 2015

This hotel had its pros and cons pros: location, literally on Madero street in front of Zocalo, metro station, shopping area, ice skating ring etc. The view from room 208 was beautiful, looks out into the zocalo. cons: noise level is bad specially if your room faces the zocalo its worse! ask for a room inland. also wifi is terrible in room 208, you miat go outside if not it doesn't work. beds are pretty uncomfortable, only get two sheets which sucks because it gets very cold. The shower was pretty disgusting, old ripped towels, shower drain not working.

"Excelent location"
Thiago A, 27 Décembre 2015

Location is great, close to many touristic spots and good restaurants. Staff is quite friendly and helpfull. From the hotel, you can walk to several atractions, like the Zocalo Squarte, Latino Americana Tower and Mexico City Cathedral. The only problem is the bathroom, which leaks a lot of water everytime someone takes a shower, making a real mess. To sum up, it is a very good call to stay for a few days, maybe not for a long stay.

"Mexico CIty is a world class Place but"
GeorgefromSF, 01 Décembre 2015

We've gone to Mexico City 6 times over the last 20 years. It is an exciting intense world class place. Can't say enough about how much I love this grand city. The last 5 times we stayed at the Hotel Canada, which is a basic Zocalo hotel but comfortable. This time we stayed at the Best Western Hotel Majestic. Everything the other reviewers said was true. Location location, etc. It could not be surpassed. However, the historic building with beautiful architecture lacks inside the guest rooms. We had a maid service that did not clean the room for two days. We had to tell the front desk to have them clean it up. Every day, the tub filled up with water and took hours to drain. The bathroom sink was the same. The maid would forget a towel or washcloth, toilet paper or bath soap. The wi fi sucked. You could not get everything cleaned or replenished on one day. The beds were very firm and old and the sheets worn. It was annoying to have to get an elevator with a person who controlled it when the elevator came. We know how to get the elevator by ourselves! One guy was very friendly and helpful, but the other guys who ran the elevator were nosy, 'where's your friend? why aren't you with him, where did you go today," etc....The rooftop 'restaurant' if you could call it that, was tacky and overpriced. However, the view was great! This is a place to stay to get in on all the intensity of the Centro, but if having been to Mexico City more than the first time. and looking for a comfortable room, spend a few more dollars to stay in a better quality place in the area. Next time we will, as there are much better places in the same area. They need to upgrade their rooms and servicios.

"Location, location and location."
Louis R, 19 Novembre 2015

Perfect location, very reasonable rates. Do not stay here if you require absolute quiet. From the sixth floor, I heard the same song played by a street musician at least 35 times one afternoon. Friendly, English speaking staff. This is a value hotel with rooms appropriate for that class. Very safe in the center of the City. Only downer is the almost non existent internet connection except at the lobby.

"Avoid the food"
ANP123, 07 Novembre 2015

I ate at the resturant in this hotel and after sending my food back literally 3 times for being cold while my friend sent his back 2 times for the same reason we both paid for our uneaten food and left. The service here is terrible, the food bad and the attitude below par. I would recommend going to the resturant and drinking a beer while admiring the view. Clearly the hotel caters to tourists because with food and service this bad no local would ever go back

"Amazing (but maybe for heavy sleepers)"
mhenz, 03 Novembre 2015

The value of this hotel was amazing, and we had a balcony room overlooking the Day of the Dead parade. There was no better seat to watch the festivities. Here's the caveat: Good Lord, that room is loud. We expected the street noise, but being right below the rooftop restaurant, we could hear every chair being moved in the morning. We're generally heavy sleepers, so it wasn't a huge deal. The positives of this place far, far outweighed the noise from above. (One more gripe: The water pressure in the shower was pretty sad.) I have zero regrets about our hotel choice, and definitely would recommend it or stay there again. The staff members there are incredibly friendly and helpful.

"Centro - location location"
BudgieHunterValley, 10 Octobre 2015

Okay so mixed reports re service, cleanliness and noise. So Best Western Majestic is in Historic Central Mexico City therere if you want Hilton sterille, noise proof, fluffed pi?lows i suggest you call Hilton, however for emersion and location - bingo. Staff are freindly and obliging with good english (better than my spanish). Rooms are clean, bed is firm but comfortable, wi fi okay. Location WOW, just pack your ear plugs and enjoy the emersion. Ps shop around online big difference in online booking prices.

"Amazing view!"
IheartaHoliday, 02 Octobre 2015

We loved our stay at The Majestic! The view is one of the best and really the reason we stayed here. The rooms are spacious, airy and very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. WiFi is hit and miss but was good enough for us. The rooftop restaurant is a great place to kick back with a coffee and watch the goings on in the square below. The location is second to none. We will definitely be staying here again!

"Good choice for mexico city"
Levent K, 13 Septembre 2015

This hotel is a good choice for mexico city. Hotel view is Zocalo, cathedral and national palace. If it is possible, prefer the 6 th floor and corner room(I think room number is 606) because of view. But don't forget if your room is side of Madero avenue, you will listen the musician (I think they aren't a musician) all night. Personel is very helpful.

"Historic building"
CCC_wanderlust, 13 Septembre 2015

I booked a three-night stay here through Booking.com for the first weekend of September. The taxi from MEX to here cost MX$224. The taxi is not able to get in front of the hotel on Agenda Madero, so I was dropped off on Zocalo Square, where I could easily see the Best Western flag marking the front of the hotel. Check in was efficient; I had requested an earlier check in and that request was granted. My first impressions of the hotel reception area as well as my room was very favorable. I liked the old decor. I also found it charming to have someone operate the elevator personally. I was assigned room 206, which overlooked Zocalo Square. The room does not have air-conditioning (not sure if any of the other rooms in the hotel did) and while I worried that it might be too hot to sleep, the temperature was comfortable. Complimentary bottled water was provided and much appreciated. The TV had many channels, including CNN. Internet connectivity is generally slow towards the end of the day and strongest early in the day. To my disappointment, the mattresses on both twin bed were rock hard. That and the street noise filtering through the closed windows made it difficult to get sleep at night. The en suite bathroom was also spacious. I opened the windows to ventilate. This also served as my air conditioning for the room. Two things proved to be a disappointment: the threadbare towels and the tepid water temperature. Don't expect to get a hot shower here. The only toiletries provided were shampoo and soap, so if you need other ones, bring them yourself. The on-site restaurant, La Terrazzo, provides great views of Zocalo Square. During the weekend, they only serve buffet style. The breakfast buffet was much better than the choices during the dinner buffet. There are plenty of other food options nearby, including Indian cuisine two doors to the left of the hotel entrance and a McDonald's on Zocalo Square. The best thing about breakfast at La Terrazza is being able to have front row seats to watch the 8 a.m. military-led flag raising ceremony in front of Palacio Nacional. Don't miss it! Hotel and restaurant staff were friendly and hospitable. I had a 7:30 a.m. flight on a Monday and requested the hotel to get me a taxi. The hotel contracts with a private taxi company and the cab and driver were there within five minutes of being called. I was expecting a vehicle with the usual accoutrements of a taxi and was worried that a private cab would be more expensive (as it is in the US), but it was a flat rate of MX$200 to the airport. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at BW Majestic Hotel and would recommend it to friends who are no-frills travelers.

I had such a great time with my mother!!! All staff at the restaurant (Martin, Mario & all breakfast service staff) was very pleasant, giving us a warm welcome every morning to the restaurant. The Front desk staff and Bellboys were very helpful and informative. Maintenance is required to the room (minumum details). However the quality in service and location makes this hotel a great one!!!!

"Best Location and Big Room"

I stayed in this property for my first trip to Mexico city during August 2015. This is a old heritage property located in Mexico City Central Square.. all popular attraction near by walking distance. They have spacious rooms and staff is also cooperative. The terrace restaurant offers nice view of Metropolitan cathedral and other colonial buildings.. they have nice breakfast and menu for dining. there are near by lot of shops and the hotel also arranges for city tour..
