"Pretty good, with a few quirks"

My family stayed at the Best Western Inn and Suites of Merrillville for one reason: to let my kid swim in the pool. They also had a hot tub, which was a bonus during the winter months. The front desk staff was great and the trip was pretty good. Unfortunately, we didn't book in time to get a lower rate so it was pretty expensive (the price went up as we got closer to the date). The biggest problem were these motion-sensor lights in the bedroom. They turn on automatically which is absolutely horrible in the middle of the night. If you get up to get a sip of water or use the bathroom, your room will first be flooded with light by the door. When you scramble to turn it off without waking anyone else up, the bathroom light will also flood the area. These cannot be turned off. Although the front desk was great, housekeeping could use some improvement. We were left with a broken hair dryer mounted to the wall. I had to get one from the front desk. We weren't given shampoo - instead, they left us duplicate lotions and a conditioner. I had to get one from the front desk. We used a fold-out couch as an extra bed and the pillow didn't have a pillowcase. The sheet that was provided had an enormous stain. The hot tub was very nice and quite hot. The pool was also nice, albeit a bit cold. The bathroom door in our room didn't open all the way due to the way the shower curtain rod was installed. I would stay here again but I would check all of these things in my room prior to unpacking.

This hotel was super convenient right off of I-65, very close to downtown Chicago & was super clean, comfortable, and accommodating. The hot breakfast was a huge plus and the staff go above and beyond to help you!! I was also able to utilize their indoor heated swimming pool & spa.

The staff, especially Morgan the manager, was very accommodating. We were traveling with my 93 year old mother. Great experience. The breakfast area is a bit small, but the food and service was excellent.

The general manager Morgan sucks ! They need to do better and hire someone more professional !! Her attitude almost got her hurt so be careful lol hopefully nobody else goes to this low budget looking hotel and it's super small and nasty ! Over priced for sure .NEVER EVER AGAIN

"Disappointing"

The staff have all been extremely friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean, for the most part. The breakfast was decent. However, the first room had a broken toilet seat and smelled musty. The rooms are very old and need lots of updating. They didn't have another room the first night but the second night gave us a different room which was helpful. The second room did not smell musty but had a front door that didn't lock completely and the toilet was janky and shook violently when you flush it. The tile grout in the bathroom is broken and chipped all over the floor. The ratings of this hotel were a bit deceiving, with a lot of high ratings, which we do not agree with. Although the staff made our stay very pleasant we would not choose to stay at this hotel in the future.

Very dissatisfied with service and quality of the hotel for the price. Very old ,needed some new paint and repairs. Management was hard to work with. Had requested and confirmed for two queen beds two weeks before arriving. Somehow they felt it was okay to reserve a king bed. My husband was having medical issues and needed his own bed. We had to take the king as there wasn't any queen left.. didn't understand when we had a confirmation for two queen beds, won't return there and wouldn't recommend it.

Initial room has a broken toilet seat. Toilet in second did not flush starting halfway through the night. Hallway smelled like fire. Desk attendant said that's from a long-term client who cooks in his room. Attendant not too concerned. I was. Don't want to stay in a hotel that smells like fire.

The manager stays on site but will not assist you at all. The rooms have white stains on the carpet, sheets were dirty when we arrived we were then given sheets to change ourselves. There were yellow stains in the jacuzzi. There were red stains on the sheets and brown stains on one of the covers. The curtains were disgusting. The staff were unprofessional, stating the manager doesn't change sheets because she is the manager. Just wow. The list is just too long. If you will stay here you might as well stay at the motel 6 across the street from it. Also be prepared to only be offered "points " for the problems that they shake their head in disgust and in agreement with you. Also to add insult to injury they overcharged twice. You can't make this up smh.

I stay at this BW every Monday night and every check in is smooth. Front desk employees are always kind and helpful. Rooms are always clean for my stay. Bathrooms are filled with clean towels, hot water and good water pressure.

The check in process was a breeze and the front desk staff was very nice. A couple downfalls was that the pool water was chilly. It definitely was not heated and the hot tub was ice cold, even after the jets were turned on. Breakfast was ok. I understand Covid is here but not a huge selection to choose from. The room was a nice size for a king bed and sofa sleeper. I would recommend a TV for the couch side since the only TV was on the bed side. The room furniture was really uncomfortable to sit on. It was very hard.

Filthy room, reported and nothing done. Bed no sheets on one bed. Shower would not drain, Remote was not working, food under the bed so obviously they did NOT vacuum this room. Dirty dark handprints on the wall. DUMP!

I had a nice enjoyable stay at the Best Western Merrillville. Quick and easy check in and check out. Extremely nice and competent staff helping you when you arrive and leave. I will stay here again. Breakfast was Limited but good. Parking was plentiful and easy to get in and out. Overall it was a nice easy stay for my business trip.

Though most of the staff was nice, the hotel was not impressive at all. It had a musty smell and one of the rooms our group had, found a cockroach on the bathroom sink. The room was given to us at no charge but still lost sleep and had to keep all of our belongings in the vehicle.

Arrived around 10pm driving from Detroit Michigan. Fast and easy check in. Hotel is small but looks and feels clean. Quiet hours are 10pm to 7am and strictly enforced. The room 2 queens was a nice size for our family of 4. The light sensors are annoying. I get saving money with lights turning off but I found two band-aids covering the sensors. Get up to use the bathroom at night and the hallway light will turn on waking up everyone in the room. The bathroom one didn't bother me much. Thermostat has a sensor as well so the ac/heat doesn't run if there is no motion. Breakfast area: Breakfast consisted of 2 waffle makers, some bread, bagels, eggs, yogurt, cereal and bananas. No juices, water or hot chocolate, just milk and coffee to drink. Didn't get to experience the pool and hot tub or fitness center. I came here because the hotel is not a long drive for a day trip to Chicago. The area has tons of restaurants, stores and hotels around. The hotel was an ok stay and served our purpose. I would probably still try a different hotel on our next visit to Chicago. Again the hotel was clean and the staff was nice but I just didn't feel the vibe here.

Labor day weekend get away. Stopped at Best Western in Merrillville, Indiana and have to say one of the best sleeps and hotel visits I've had ..and I've travelled alot. Front desk person Ann Marie Bricker was extremely pleasant and helpful. Very quiet night, most quiet of places I can remember at a hotel. Clean rooms and properly appointed. Great stay for sure !

We were in town for a wedding. Stopped at the BW for the night. cost for the room w/taxes 180.00. First room given, my husband and I walked in to the smell of cigarettes and weed, additionally the room was dirty with pop bottles around the room and sheets off the bed on a chair. Went back down to get a better room, was given one. Came down to use the hot tub was told it was closed due to COVID. Went to get breakfast the next morning, much to our surprise no breakfast was being served due to COVID. Seems to me like the staff/management just did not want the hassel. Rooms should not be that expensive if no amenities are available. Also the staff should tell guest this information before swiping our card.

Upon entering the hotel it smells of curry throughout the entire lobby and hallways. We came into the hotel with a reservation on a Wednesday evening for 2 queen beds. The toilet in the room did not work and when I went to the front desk to inform them she handed me a plunger and said to try that. I thought it very strange to hand a guest a plunger but thought I would give it a try. I knew the issue was not a backed up toilet but something mechanical but I tried anyway. I came back to the front desk after trying the plunger with no success. I asked to switch rooms but she said they did not have anymore 2 bed rooms. At this point I just asked to cancel my stay and not be charged. She said she could not do that but then called her manager and they offered me a King bed suite with sofa sleeper. We checked out that room and it was dirty and I could tell the bedding in the pull out couch was not clean and we also wanted to real beds. Went back to the front desk and insisted on a refund and that we would be leaving. She once again called her manager and gave us a refund though she said it may take up to a week to be refunded. We proceeded to leave and found another hotel not far away. The only good thing about this stay was that the money did not take a week to be refunded. I have stayed at Best Wester hotels around the county many times and this is by far the worst kept up facility I have ever come across. Best Western should consider de-franchising this facility Though I do recommend Best Western facilities I would tell everyone to stay very far away from the Best Wester in Merrillville IN

The exterior of the hotel had plenty of parking, was easy to get to and was fresh and inviting. The lobby and entire public are was clean and the staff was friendly, polite and prompt. My room was clean and ready when I arrived and was cleaned to satisfaction each day. There was little noise in the evenings. It would be a perfect stay had Covid not closed the pool and breakfast.

front desk staff were unpleasant to work with. no dogs allowed but someone had a dog that was barking, creepy guy walking around drunk and high more than half the time. rooms smelled like dirty feet and were musty. everyday our keys would stop working and we would have to go to the front desk to get them to work again. it was overall a horrible experience. also had to sign a waiver for a no party policy.

Pool/hot tub was closed. Breakfast was crappy muffin and apple with a water, in a bag. "Covid." Gave me no AARP discount and had to pay a deposit on the room. If I wasn't desperate for a room, I'd have kept going!

The room was filthy and needed wiped down. The website did not state the pool and hot tub were still closed for COVID. Front desk stated all in area were still closed. The Hampton and Hilton Garden pools were open. No breakfast. The info given was a bag to go with a yogurt, fruit, water, and hot breakfast sandwich or burrito. There was water, apple, and a muffin the size of a half dollar. We had to leave before staying second night. Just horrible

My mother is sight impaired. We were very pleased with the room. It was especially helpful that the hall light and bath Light had a sensor to come on automatically when she would get up at night. Everything was very clean and the room smelled good.

I do not recommend this Hotel, The Price is Absorbent $400.00 for TWO night with Military discounts breakfast was lousy, "NO Hot Breakfast" , The sleeper couch in my Room was IN POOR condition. My brother and I had to share a bed. 1. Absorbent Prices 2. Price gouging

Had a very enjoyable stay. Only down side breakfast was just a white paper sack pool and fitness wasnt opened up again. And there was a lot of noise due to all the kids runnin up and down the halls. Which isnt the hotels fault parents for not keeping them in line

It was an average Best Western. Lobby was dark and uninviting. The pool was closed as was the breakfast bar. They did offer coffee. Not the friendliest of employees. Was overpriced for what was offered and room quality

This is one of the worst best westerns I've ever stayed at it was noisy the coffee downstairs where they used to have the breakfast was on drinkable the pool and fitness center are still closed there was no breakfast the rooms are OK at best they did notReplace the shampoo or the end room coffee we were there for three days I never once replaced under the amenities I would not recommend this hotel and I wish I would've read some of the reviews prior staying there

Absolutely the worst customer service experience I've had in any hotel. The proprietor, Nila Patel, is the rudest hotel manager I have encountered in many years of my experience. While the hotel staff are pleasant, friendly and professional it is Nilla Patel that is the embodiment oh rudedness, unprofessionalism, greed and ultimately total lack of customer service skills. In addition, first through roomI was given smelt oh smoke. The hot water I got tasted rancid. Unlike any other hotel in the area, and I have stayed in most, displace has made no attempt to mother nice or upgrade anything in the building, seemingly since it's been built. I strongly urge you to look elsewhere and save yourself the aggravation of staying in this place. Your hard earned money definitely deserves to be spent somewhere where it is appreciated much more.

There was banging on the floor all night and when I complained it just got worse. The front desk person didn't help and I complained twice and after that I gave up because obviously they weren't going to get it stop if they didn't try the first time. It made my overall stay bad experience

I booked a king and got a two queen with a defective tv remote. Totally disappointed. Since I didn't complain with in the first 15 minutes “there was nothing they could do “. The first night I was tummy from travel all day and discovered my key didn't work. The guy at the counter reprogrammed it for me, no questions asked and unfortunately, I was able to open the door on a couple in bed, totally not my room!!! I went back down and explained this to the guy and he then looked me up in the system. I was off by two doors. I was mortified and now worried that if that happened to me, who else might be able to just walk into a random room?! The door lock latch was held by one screw so I really only had the dead bolt and chain. It was very concerning. Also, while waiting to get my key fixed, the guy at the counter was combative and biligerant to an African American customer that was just trying to let him know their shower didn't work. He raised his voice at the customer and basically told him since it's been more than 15 minutes there was nothing they could do. The customer was not even asking for a room change or refund, just trying to find out if someone could fix their shower the next day. When it was my turn, the guy was bubbly and kind and sweet. Not cool man!!

Overall the stay was horrible , he said he couldn't check me in because I wasn't 21 when in fact it was my 21st birthday. The woman and man were acting racist and unprofessional. He didn't want to give me a clean blanket after I asked for one. Rooms were freezing ice cold, WiFi doesn't work and no breakfast was provided.

Because I have allergies, the spells in this Best Western was not good. Mold Mildew are always a problem. The noise from the rooms on the 2nd floor was not called for. Shopping around for wedding quest options for out of town guest. This one bit the dust fast.

I chose Best Western in the area due to my stay at the one in Valparaiso. Boy was I wrong. The room had a mold ordor, the adjoining room occupants were loud and the motion sensor lights in the room drove me nuts! I also was charged a $50 incidental fee that I had no idea about until I checked it.

I struggled between a 2-star and a 3-star rating for this property for weeks. Ultimately, I have settled on a 2-star and I'll go through the good and bad. Before I begin, this was during COVID-19 so no pool or hot tub or exercise room. They handed out a sack "breakfast" which I will get to. The things they didn't have do not go into this rating as that is not fair and I could not judge the quality of these items. Good: Clean room and clean towels. Nice bed. Fridge worked. The room had AC. Shower had hot water. Quick check-in and check-out procedure. Hotel seemed clean inside and out (parking lot). Room was large with a couch, table in front of the couch, and a table with a chair to do any work. Not-so-good: Thin walls which allow you to hear a lot of noise. There are signs posted that it is to be quiet from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and it is "strictly enforced" no one makes sure that guests are quiet. The room next to mine had 4-6 (or more) people in it talking until at least 1:30 a.m. That is when I finally fell asleep. Thankfully, my son was able to sleep through it. If I could have controlled the AC in the room, I would have been able to ignore the very loud noises and screams and coversation that was coming from next door but the AC would shut off every few minutes. Even if I was able to doze off, the screaming and laughter kept coming until at least 1:30 a.m. Maybe they kept going but I didn't wake up after that. Did I call the front desk on this? No. However, if there was a walkthrough of the building, there is no way this noise could have been missed. The check-in was the least personable experience I've ever had in checking in to a place ever. No hello, how are you, how was your trip in, etc. Just "Name?" No explanation of what was closed due to COVID and what was not. After asking about breakfast, they did say they had a bag you could pick up in the morning. It was a sack with a bottle of water, Quaker chewy granola bar, and two or three wrapped "muffins" that my son said was not good. At least they had something for us, but the water wasn't cold and the muffins were bad. Check out, while easy, was the same complete lack of personality at the front desk. A couple of times we came in and out of the hotel, we never saw a smile, received a hello, or any acknowledgment. We only stayed one night so there was no idea if housekeeping was good or if anything would have changed. If I was staying an extra night, I would have asked to move rooms but not sure that would have helped. Ultimately, the reason I gave this place 2-stars is I did not get a great quality or quantity of sleep. This was due to noise and the lack of the AC functioning properly. For a supposed 3-star property, you would expect a little more from the place. The price was good when we stayed there for the surrounding area and the area was clean with a large room. I would probably not stay there again if I was in the area.

The stay was great overall. My room was clean, the hotel looks amazing, but my only issue was that the front counter service was average. They didn't really explain everything to me as clearly as they should've. With everything Covid-19, they had promised to still provide a breakfast but it was a very poor sack lunch. Overall, I would go back and stay. The hotel is next to an outlet mall, and a great location, but the hotel staff just needs to step it up.

Horrible dishonest check out staff (Cherry and Mike) that refused to help and lied about not having any contact information for owners. When owners conveniently “called in “ while I was packing up they also promised to look into problem and refund one room whose door lock was not working properly but never did. Also owners listed on paperwork and business cards are not true owners according to Mike.

The hotel was over all nice for what I needed. .Didn't use either but looked okay small workout room and decent pool . Breakfast looked okay for continental was nothing special but if you are looking for a small bite it works . The hotel is in a super convenient location right near mall and lots of shopping and food places . Only complaint I have is the bed sheets were stained with food and god knows what else but I travel with own sheets .

Noisy all night above our room. They did switch us for 2nd nite but should have offered a discount. We got no sleep!!! Breakfast was pretty awful. Nasty eggs and stale pastries. Not a good value for $75 a nite.

This hotel is very clean! Smells clean. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The bathroom was a bit small and crunched feeling but that would be my only complaint. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

As an older female travelling alone for business I felt very safe here. Every single staff member I encountered every single day I was there greeted me with a BIG SMILE like I was an old friend or family member - I felt very welcome. The breakfast was hot each day with many choices - everything from cheese omlettes and biscuits and gravy to cereals, oatmeal, waffles, yogurt - so many choices, you can stay on a diet or have several mini-oastries - the selection was great! DID I MENTION THEY HAVE A POOL??? Yes - what fun!

Great place to stay. Clean, safe and a great location. Excellent staff. Paras, Jatine and Michael have been especially helpful. Every time we travel to Wisconsin to visit our middle son we stay here. Instead of driving straight to Wisonsin, we stopped at a Motel 6 and encoutered a serious problem with our sleeping arrangements. We tried the best western Merrillville and have been staying here ever since. We highly recommend the best western Merrillville. We have probably stayed here for somewhere between 30 and 40 nights.

Nowadays it is not so common to see a friendly face when on the road and I stay in tons of hotels. I dont have a lot of bad experiences anywhere, but this place was just special and welcoming and it made the stay much more easy to deal with when i cant be home with my family.

Clean, clean, clean! Top priority when staying anywhere for me is the cleanliness of the property. Every single staff person i came in ccontact with was friendly, helpful and genuine. Breakfast had great selection and the host was so friendly and engaging with everyone. This was one of the best places, overall, i have ever stayed.

We used this motel as a place to stay for our visit to Chicago. We were able to drive to the Garfield Street station on the CTA and park for $2.00 per day, and ride the CTA trains for $10 (each) on an all day pass. In our three day stay we saved at least $100 over staying in downtown Chicago, and had an easy time getting in and out (about 35-40 minutes), even in rush hour traffic.

Stayed there 5 days. Used the spa, pool and breakfast. Staff was very accommodating. We come to the area at least once a year and have stayed at different motels, we will be coming back to this one. Just wish they had a better weekly rate

"Bed Bugs"

We stayed in this hotel for a baseball tournament that we were in. We did not choose this hotel as it was required to stay there to be in the tournament. If you want bed bugs by all means stay here. On the outside it looks nice but obviously they do not know how to clean. At least 3 other families also experienced the bed bugs and all they did was move them to another room. My husband woke up in the middle of the night smacking his face because there was a bug on it. When approached the front desk they did nothing! Terrible service the rooms smelled of smoke although it was non smoking. There are many other very nice hotels all around this area, choose one of those instead!!

So, the main thing we look for in any hotel is a hot tub - and finding one in Indiana is difficult. We stayed here on the way up to Michigan and chose it because it was one of the view that did. Many have capped theirs due to regulations from the state of Indiana that make it difficult to maintain them. Anyway, we stayed at yours and were relieved to find a working pool and hot tub, which is necessary for those of us with bad backs. When I was checking in, I mentioned our reason for choosing the hotel to the desk attendant and he mentioned you were considering getting rid of it like the other hotels and for the same reason. I just wanted to say to please keep it! Thank you!

My daughters and I stayed here before traveling on to Chicago the next day. The hotel was close to the local mall and other places to visit. The front desk staff was very welcoming and helpful when looking for places to eat. They were willing to help with booking issues at another Best Western property. Great place to stay if don't want to stay in Chicago - easy drive into city.

Stayed one night. They gave us a free upgrade to a suite. The breakfast actually had whole milk not just skim or 2%. That was nice! Very clean room and comfortable bed on the first floor, area was pretty quiet. Staff was fast and courteous! Would stay again.

The exterior upon arrival was clean and neat. Check in was very easy and the staff was well versed in the check in procedures. Our room was clean and smelled fresh. The HVAC controls were easy to use. The pool area was well maintained. The fitness center was a little small limiting the amount of equipment available. The breakfast was good with the waffle maker also there were cheese omellets available along with fruits and cereals. Overall, a good and decent place to stay.

I stayed for one night while visiting a friend in Merrillville. The staff was welcoming, helpful, and let me know they appreciated my business. It wasn't the fanciest Best Western I've stayed it but was exceptionally clean, handy to a variety of restaurants, a large mall, and Interstate 65 was only about 1 1/2 miles from the Best Western. Breakfast was what one comes to expect. My only suggestion would be for better lighting over the bathroom mirror. I will definitely stay there when I return to the area.

Room smelled like pee! They lady at the front desk said that was the norm..she came in and sprayed some stuff on the carpet..didnt help at all... She said it was the norm room smell..I asked if i could switch to another room she said their are no more rooms availabe... I had my husband call and rooms magically became available...i will never take my family here again..EVER!

This hotel had awesome amenities and great pricing. We didn't use it but the indoor pool looked very inviting. Breakfast of omlets and biscuits and gravy was very good. The location was ideal and convenient to shopping etc.

I could not sleep as this hotel turned into a brothel from the hours of 12a to 430a. The screams and moans of sex where so loud I could not sleep. The shower would run and then the next set of sex screams and moans would continue. This repeatedly happened until 430am. This is not a family frindlfr hotel at all. This place is disgusting. Stear clear of this hotel

A nice gentleman named Paras checked us in. Pleasantly made conversation and gave us suggestions of where to eat and what shopping places were still open in the area. One nice thing is the location of this hotel, we are directionally challenged and this hotel is very near a huge water tower. So when we needed to return at night we just looked for the huge water tower and made our way back. We upgraded to a suite for very little money which was a pleasant surprise. Most places charge substantially more for the extra space. The beds were good and sheets were of higher standard and not paper thin or stained. The pillows were rather smallish but there were six on the bed to make up for it. I was very happy with the couch in our room. It wasn't upholstery fabric (which I hate) and it wasn't vinyl either but something in between which made it very clean. I have had to sit on towels in some places but somehow this new material repels moisture. Breakfast was the standard fare. We never use a pool or hot tub but as we walked by we saw that it was well lit and there were families enjoying the water. Towels seemed to be brand new and nice thick and bright white with no stains. Parking is well lit and plenty of spaces. Although I am not familiar with the local area, it looked to be very safe. Location is within minutes of large highway and there are lots of restaurants and lots of shopping stores which you can walk to. We felt safe walking back from restaurant in the dark. Well done!

The hotel was very nice. I would rate this five star but the clerk at check in was extremely rude. He did not appear to be able to communicate in english and repeatedly contridicted himself. Other than the person maintaining the breakfast he was the only employee we saw.

This was a very pleasant experience from the time we arrived to the time we left. The night clerk who checked us in, Mack, was very cordial and efficient. He explained all the things we needed to know about before I had a chance to ask. The day clerk, Paras, was very friendly, efficient, and helpful. A very pleasant person. The room itself was very clean. We had no apprehension about the cleanliness where we were about to lay our heads. Everything was in working order. The breakfast that was provided was very good. Probably better than most hotel comp breakfasts. Had lots of items to pick from. The coffee at this hotel was very good. It is available 24 hrs, and I must admit I enjoyed several cups before bed. Overall this is a very nice property, I would stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone.

My stay exceeded my expectations. The facility was as nice as one could make it starting with the interactions with the staff that went out of their way to make me feel welcome, a nice clean room, a breakfast setting that was enjoyed ( and better than most of the competition), a nice indoor pool and hot tub, and it all added up to an excellent value. If I could go everywhere and have the experience I had at the Merrillville, IN Best Western I would be a very happy traveler. I read some reviews of others who had stayed here before but with the recommendation of another friend, I decided to stay here and I am sooo glad I did. I encountered no issues or problems whatsoever. The bed had four pillows on it and I really enjoyed that.

Overall a nice hotel for the money. Location was excellent- walking distance from a mall and tons of food places. The main issue I had was noise coming from the pool area. It's a small hotel, so if you're on the first floor you'll hear people of they're being excessively loud in the indoor pool area. They close it down at 10pm though. The bed was a tad hard, too.

We were greeted by Paras when we first arrived and he was extremely pleasant and welcoming. The room was clean, bed was very comfortable and the hot tub was fun. Breakfast was also good with lots of options. Only downside was when we asked for more towels in the morning I was directed by a different front desk person to find the maid in the hallway instead of having them bring us some. Just made for an awkward situation that could have been handled with more care. I would have given a 5 but there was an obvious decrease in level of customer service from evening to morning front desk person.

We stayed here as a quick pit stop with the family. Pool and hot tub we're great. Pool area is nicely lit up and they had updated furniture. Room was another story. We stayed on the 3rd floor 307. Room smelled of stale smoke, tile floor in bathroom was cracked to the point we could have picked up the tile from the floor. I found several dead flies, and my daughter screamed when she saw a queen ant walking by her bed. Shower- we could not get a good spray. Beds were comfy, but there was construction early the next day right outside our window. Breakfast was very good. Biscuits and gravy were my favorite. Staff there were very welcoming and kind.

I've sort of followed a certain brand to build rewards points. But my criteria (clean, safe & under $100) was getting me some rather dingy rooms of late. Thanks to this hotel I have joined the Best Western rewards program. These guys were great! Room was so cozy and bed so comfy I slept like a baby. Breakfast was fantastic and everyone so kind. They more than met my criteria - they greatly surpassed my basic needs - they know customer care!

I arrived late and tired after driving for 15 hours in stormy weather. The desk person was very polite and attentive. He treated me like he knew me, was expecting me, and actually concerned about me. He asked if I would accept a free room upgrade as a reward member for which I did. Good move the room was the biggest and nicest suite I have ever experienced. Did not know they had these super big suites? Wow! He also asked if I would be attending breakfast in the morning. I mentioned I was departing before the breakfast hours. He then said the morning crew would provide me early breakfast access of which I found comforting, but unnecessary. I was sure surprised when the morning gentleman actually took my order and cooked me a superb breakfast (at 4:30a?). Wow again! I'm still pinching myself for the service experienced. Did I dream it? Who cares...well done Merrillville Best Western crew! You made me feel like royalty!!!!

"Pool chemicals ruined my clothes"

The hotel itself is a bit antiquated but nice. I don't know what kind of chemicals they put in that pool that by the time i got out, my blue blouse was gray, my navy shorts, were a mix of navy and grey. My daughters orange and navy bathing suit is now purple, orange, and grey and when I told the front desk person about it, he could have cared less!! All he said was that the chemicals were put in by the company that cleans the pool... and that was all. I was upset to say the least by his lack of caring and lack of customer service skills.

Recently stayed at this hotel on our way from Tennessee to the upper peninsula of Michigan when we ran into a snow storm. Check in was breeze and the staff was very kind. The most memorable part of the trip was when we decided to leave very early the next morning and our car would not start. The front desk clerk called a man down to help us and when it still would not start he jumped us from his car. It took about an hour but the two men helped us the entire time in freezing cold temperatures and even went as far to get the breakfast bar started so we had the ability to have breakfast (prior to their stated serving time). Could not be more thankful to these to gentleman for going above and beyond. THANK YOU!!

All was well except for the checkout experience. I had to chase down someone to checkout. I waited about 15 minutes to find someone. I knocked on door in the breakfast area to finely find someone. I asked housekeeping and they could not find anyone either. Not sure why someone was not at the desk.

Stayed here for the night on a trip. Staff was excellent. Hotel was clean. Room was excellent. Breakfast was excellent. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay. In a nice area right of the interstate. Nice restaurants are close by for eating.

I arrived at the Best Western Merrillville at the end of a 13-hour solo drive from Durham, NC, and was facing Chicago plus three hours further north the next day to make a meeting. I am truly grateful for the kind and helpful way I was greeted after this long slog of a drive and for the front desk person's offer to arrange for a 5:30 breakfast to accommodate my 6:00 am departure. My room was spacious and spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. I was offered express checkout, which helped me keep my scheduled departure time.

This property is close to the intersection of I-65 and US30. Shopping and restaurants are convenient. Friendly staff work to make you feel at home. The only issue I had was rather low water pressure in the shower - and that could be because of water usage restrictors in the lines.

We consistently stay at this Inn when we travel to visit our son. It has a great location with shopping and restaurants nearby. It is safe, clean and comfortable with a caring and courteous staff. We had our daughters birthday party there and she wanted to swim. We checked in at 3 and there were so many unruly kids in pool and hot tub we couldnt swim or enjoy hot tub. Parents drinking alcohol in pool area!

I liked this hotel however the quality is questionable. My room was dirty and looked like house keeping only changed the bed sheets, thats it. Staff was responsive when I told them twice my room was dirty, because when I came back hours later it was much cleaner. However they still cut corners (i.e. not dusting clocks off or shelves). Also staff stared my little niece and I down like a hawk until we entered the elevator. Hot breakfast was extremely limited, and eggs tasted like sponge (I was so hungry I didn't care). I'd say if you're booking last minute and need somewhere cheap and every other hotel close by is booked, choose this one. However if you have much CLEANER options go with those first. I really don't like to write bad reviews, but I would hate for someone to have an experience like mine

Had a great stay at this hotel. Very nice accommodations. The overall appearance of the hallways and stairwells and elevator were very clean. This is a very quiet hotel and could not hear any outside traffic. Room was very nice.

Gray stay. The poll and Hot tub are great. The staff is attentive and helpful. Breakfast is always great. I stay every time I am in Chicago and it is always great. This is close to 2 malls, resturants and groceries with easy on and off the interstate.

A group of us met here in Merrillville for a mini reunion . We picked this motel based on reviews we found on TripAdvisor. One of our group is handicapped and was very pleased with the accessibility of the lobby and room she was given. Three of us stayed in the suite with 2 queen beds and a pull out hide-a-bed. I happened to be the person who drew the pull-out...and was surprised with how comfy it was. All in all a very clean motel. Breakfast was fine and the area it is in was pleasant .

We were traveling late and had reservation at the Super 8 in Merrillville. When we saw the Super 8 we became concerned, so we looked at reviews for the Best Western across the street. We stopped here because of great reviews, they were all true! Mack, at the front desk was great! We got the last available room, and at a great rate. The room was great and the service excellent.I will be back to this place soon. Great service.

Stayed one night here after seeing a show at the nearby Star Plaza Theater. Location is great, right off highway 30, close to everything in the area. It is located in an office park area, along with a few other hotels, as well. LOTS of restaurants and stores within a few miles of this place. Hotel was clean, everything in the room worked, King Bed was comfortable, room was spacious and quiet. We had the usual free continental breakfast, which was decent. There is an indoor pool, but, we didn't have time to use it. If in the area again, would definitely stay here again.

This is a good choice for a cheap hotel in Merrillville. Its fairly clean and has a pool, breakfast and it is in a good location. Don't stay in the cheaper prosed hotels, they are dumps. There are a lot of new hotels in this area and this is a good choice for the cheaper hotels.

This particular property isn't bad.My problem was at check out.We used gift cards to pay part of the balance and the person on desk duty took the info and then wanted to e mail us with the final receipt.He wasn't sure he'd done it all right and a manager wasn't going to be there for another hour.As of this time,I'm still waiting for my e mail receipt.

If you're planning a trip last minute, this hotel is a comfortable safe choice. If you're planning a trip in advance stay somewhere else. Furniture, towels, and bath cloths need to be replaced. The dinning area is small and breakfast options are limited. There's no business office, bu instead t a table with a printer and desktop computer you may stand and use like a kiosk next to the indoor pool. The internet is very slow. There is a Starbucks across the street, so that's nice. If you are travelling into Chicago from this location, be prepared to three tolls.

I could not be more pleased with the room, breakfast, amenities or cleanliness. The gentleman who checked me in, while professional, did not seem very friendly, or enthusiastic. During check out, the desk was unstaffed. A billing statement had been slid under my door during the night, so, I guess that was the check out process. However, other than that, it was a great stay, very clean and comfortable. Plus a great value.

We're on the road from California to Michigan, and this is the best motel of the six we've used, and the best motel we've encountered in years of travel. We had a king suite, spacious and well equipped. Front desk staff were outstanding. Don't stay anywhere else in Merrillville.

I was in town for my mom's funeral. So, I picked this hotel wit little research. I checked in late, but the Night staff Gentlemen was very pleasant and accommodating. I got checked in and settled in the room, but the air didn't work. So, the Night staff upgraded our room for free. Thanks so much for making an hard time such a comfortable stay. From first welcome, to final checkout the staff and management at this property demonstrate a level of customer service much appreciated, but not frequently enough experienced at other locations. It is obvious from the manicured exterior, to the professional appearance and demeanor of staff, to the cleanliness of the rooms, to the presentation of the breakfast items that the aim of management and staff is complete customer satisfaction. Located conveniently off major traffic arteries, this property is also close to shopping and restaurants and proves to be a comfortable and reasonably priced stop over. Don't hesitate to stay there.

We stayed at BW for a senior softball tournament which was only miles from the softball fields. The BW is very clean with a decent breakfast. The staff was very friendly and let us check in early. We will stay there again.

I always stay at this particular hotel when I am in the area visiting family and it has always been clean, quiet, and welcoming. There are probably cheaper options nearby, but the extra few dollars I spend staying here are worth it to get a CLEAN, comfortable night's rest without hassle. I have stayed at more expensive hotels nearby and been kept awake due to noise.

We stayed in a King Suite. The sofa bed was comfy since we always use an "egg crate" on any sofa bed. The room was clean and fresh smelling. The breakfast area is very small. There were enough breakfast foods to choose from eggs to carbs.

I loved my stay. I stayed with family for a few days and it was wonderful. The staff is nice. They keep the rooms clean. The pool is fun and relaxing. The breakfast is great. I would always stay there as an hotel. I recommend it.

R.ight off we had to ask for a change of rooms. The microwave in the first room was splattered with the last use. The soap dish in the shower was surrounded by mold. There were stains on the upholstery. The new room was an upgrade, but there was still torn upholstery, leaving us with the feeling that this hotel was cutting corners. The breakfast room is extremely small, one table actually sits in the lobby. The instant eggs were so dried out that they were inedible.....another signs that employees are not interested in doing a good job, and that would fall on the shoulders of management. I appreciate that there was no problems with getting our room replaced, but still wasn't confident in the cleanliness after the experience with the first room.

We stayed at this hotel after a wedding. We usually don't stay at Best Western but it happened to be close to the venue at the right price. It was a well equipped hotel. Everything was working and in good condition. According to my wife and mother-in-law, the room was a little dated (but looked fine to me). I'm definitely interested in staying in Best Western in my travels. Nice hotels, good price.

Our stay was great. I wish your breakfast had some other type of meat besides sausage links. Maybe bacon or ham. The pool and Jacuzzi should be open 24 hours; not closing at 10pm. Also, the fitness room should be 24 hours. It would be nice to have a better variety of beverages in the vending machine since you have to purchase them.

I have found the overall service excellent by all staff! I stay at the Merrillville often and the service has been excellent. I had left some personal property in my room and a staff member ran down several flights of stairs to catch me defore I pulled out of the parking lot, which he did. The staff member thought it would be quicker, as the elevator was picking up others.

This hotel is pretty nice. not too far from the various beaches. It is in the middle of shopping, next to a Mall, short distance from a Target,Wal mart, 5 below, Sam's Club and it is near I-65. There is a breakfast, it is not bad for free, the area is small compared to other Best westerns I have stayed. Didn't use the fitness center and did not use the pool. The pool area seemed to be nice, it is an indoor pool.

Lots of issues with the room. Holes from pictures, funky smell, smoker in the room previously (they moved me), a tiny plastic shower like in an RV, and a non-working hot-tub in the middle of the room next to the bed. Eww. I left early in the morning and did emails from Panera instead. Will not be back. Asked how the room was and I told them and they looked at me with a blank stare. I stay in 80 rooms a night as a salesman averaging $50-80 per night.

Needs new beds. Needs attention in the bathroom. Pool and Spa need updated big time. Spa splashed water in your face the whole time you tried to sit and enjoy. Was not impressed for $115. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly but it just needs some updates.

Very comfortable rooms. Our group had 4 rooms and all were very nice. Mattress was excellent. Front desk person, Paras, was outstanding! Very helpful to us and other guests. He took care of us when the Clarion Hotel messed up our reservations and wanted to charge us more for rooms with fewer beds. We did not try the breakfast so can't comment on that.

Room was adequate for a one night stay but breakfast was the worst I've seen. The quality was very poor and it was evident that they did not want to spend a dollar more than absolutely necessary. There was no one restocking or cleaning the breakfast room. Once some thing ran out you were just out of luck and it was the best choices that ran out right away so if you were not there first as in our case expect to eat elsewhere...

We like the location of this hotel when we are returning home from a trip as it's south of Chicago. We can get up early and get through Chicago without the normal heavy mid day traffic. Staff is always friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

This BW is very nice and clean with a nice pool and offers a generous breakfast. However what makes this hotel stand out is the staff who is very courteous and helpful. They go out of their way to make sure that you feel as a royal guest.

The hotel was alright for the price. This was not our first option as the place that we stayed at before was fully booked. There was a weird smell when entering the front doors to check in. The rooms were ok. Tops look dull. The column by the hot tub had molds in the base. The hot tub jets were not aligned properly. Normally it should hit your lower back. It was too high and the jets were pointing up. Weird. Breakfast was ok at best. The scrambled eggs were in really small circular dry pieces. Prefer it to be in chunks and moist. Reading through the old reviews, looks like issues back then were still present.

This hotel's accommodations were very fine. The room was clean, updated and comfortable as was the bathroom. The bed allowed me to have a perfect night's rest. I did not hear any road noises and it was close to many restaurants for dinner.

Other guests were out of control at 2:00 am in the hallway. Not hotels fault. Staff seemed indifferent. Not rude by any means but I don't remember even a smile or a kind word. Just business. Mattress was inadequate. You could hear the springs clicking off of each other when you sat down or rolled over.

The room was very clean. I was really impressed by the dining area. It was well maintained and they offered gluten- free options, which were important to me. The sitting area was very inviting with the replica of the fireplace. Being located right next to the interstate is important for out of town travelers.

The employees were very helpful and friendly during our stay. The gentleman at the front desk provided us with milk for our 3 year old for bedtime. We had a great time in the pool and hot tub and the rooms were clean and comfy.

We try to stay there when we go to visit our kids. I love the location and we are able to find shopping and lots of restaurants to choose from, very close. The staff is very friendly. Their breakfast is good for a continental breakfast. It has a nice pool for kids, not too, deep.

What can I say, the rooms were decent, typical BW breakfast, staff was acceptable. We wanted an inexpensive stay for one night and that is what we got. It did not blow me away, but did not expect it to. It was what it needed to be.

Will stay agin! Breakfast was great and convient, staff friendly and helpful(when there was enough there. There was only one staff there during second shift hours so it was very difficult to get things done. One night we were there they had to close the pool because there was too much chemicals in it!

Check in staff, Paras, very nice and very welcoming even calling the room after we went up to assure all was well. Pool was great for the kids. Only complaint is the very strong smell of what seemed like curry on the third floor where our room was which got worse late at night. Laying in bed unable to sleep at 2am and the smell is almost nauseating.

For the price and quality of the room it was a great stop on our road trip. The room was clean and well kept. It was quiet even though we knew a bunch of families with kids were there. We didnt give it 5 star because the bed was very stiff and the pillows weren't supportive. Lucky we had our own. I'd for sure stay here again. If you are a coffee drinker bring your own. The breakfast nook only has instant. There are coffee makers in the rooms but I don't like that kind either. On a side note our room was in an interesting spot. On the ground floor next to a stairwell between the door to the lobby and the door outside. Again it was a very quiet room. If anyone reading this gets that room no worries you wont be bothered.

Got bitten by bed bugs and manager refused to give me a refund after the midnight clerk confirmed it was a indeed a BED BUG! Very rude manager called me a liar even with the proof and pictures! Never EVER STAY THERE!

Great Hotel just outside Chicago. I always stay hear when passing through the area. Near many restaurants, shopping and entertainment within a couple minutes drive. Rooms are always clean with a comfortable bed, flat screen TV, fridge & microwave. Big hot breakfast in the morning with a great staff that are always friendly.

Second time we stayed here. The Staff, including Housekeeping are very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and most important CLEAN. The bed was very comfortable. Excellent WI-FI, best we've had in awhile at a motel. The only suggestion I would have is to have a bed side lamp that is not so bright. Great motel, I highly recommend it.

Although not easy to find, our stay at this Best Western was outstanding. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was very restful and clean. Watch for the new Best Western logo. There were plenty of good restaurants close and a very large array of stores and shops. Easy access to freeways headed to Chicago or Indianapolis.

It took us quite a while to find the hotel, probably due to construction in the area and roads being closed. The area appeared to be quite busy. The hotel is being renovated and there were large boxes in the lobby although we did not see any work being done during our stay. Para who checked us in was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and adequate for our one night stay. We visited the dunes on our way to Chicago the next morning.

They're making lots of improvements and the staff is very friendly. There are perks such as larger suites, pool, and a nice breakfast. Price is right. They let us eat pizza in the breakfast area. Definitely a good option for a family coming to the area. However, there was often a smell of smoke in one of our rooms and then overnight in one of our bathrooms - something with ventilation maybe? Kids liked the pool and hot tub but there was lumber and scaffolding setting out. Work out room didn't open until 7, so I missed my work out. When I was showering there was a really loud high pitched whistling - something with water pressure? We stayed here to visit Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Fair Oaks Farms. Would probably seek out similar options in the area, and if there aren't any that seemed just right or comparable, we would return.

I stay in this hotel A lot and it's the best one! I'd rather go here than anywhere else and the staff is very very nice and accommodating. And also very clean rooms with no bad smells. The prices aren't too bad at all and they always try to tell you the best room to get that will for your price range.

This Best Western had an awesome rate, neat, clean with comp breakfast and easy access to dozens of restaurants and a mall right off I-65 North. This is the last area for hotels before entering Illinois and the city of Chicago. Barely 30 minutes by car from South Shore, it was a perfect place to stay while on vacation in Chicago or business. Did I say the price is amazing!

This was one of the smaller rooms we have ever stayed in with a King Bed, but all the furniture in the room was very nice, appeared new, and was beautiful in appearance; even though the room was small, including the bathroom, it was a very comfortable room.

I stay here frequently for work. The hotel is clean, customer service is great, and it has a great location to the strip with many restaurants, a mall and the expressway. They offer a continental breakfast, pool, hot tub and workout facility. The workout facility is to small, only one person can fit, and the hot tub jets shoot straight in the air. Other than that, it is a clean, friendly, updated hotel.

The room was comfortable, could have used some updating in decor. The TV wasn't very big and had no HD with very little channel options. The bed was a little hard, woke up a bit stiff. The couch was stained and the breakfast wasn't very good, but other then that, it was a nice experience

My reservation was given away @ the Holiday Inn express up the road and Best Western had a room with jacuzzi. The staff couldn't have been more helpful when I booked the room. I will defintely be staying again when I am in the area.

Returning home from a trip to Michigan and needed a nice place to stay for the night. Had gotten a BW rewards card in april on a trip out west and thought we would try again. The room is roomy, beds comfortable, granite bathrooms, frig/micro, nice breakfast room. A quiet evening, close to restaurants for a late dinner. We continue to be impressed with Best Westerns quality and service while traveling. The only trouble with our room were some unsightly stains on the easy chair that could stand to be cleaned up.

This is the best hotel in the area! It was walking distance from my business appointment. Lots of restaurants and shopping in the area. A couple blocks from a Starbucks. Responsive staff, comfortable bed, and perfectly acceptable breakfast.

This hotel has reasonable rates but the interior is in disrepair. Stains on virtually everything, hair on the bathroom washcloths. The pool area looked clean enough but it also looked very dated and parts of the ceiling had fallen off (the plaster had fallen off). The breakfast was decent in terms of a hotel but the seating area was way too small for the number of guests.

This was the second stay at this location and we chose to stay because of a pleasant stay our first visit. The rooms are nice and clean, the wifi was decent. Very nice staff and cordial. We recommend. The breakfast was traditional continental.

After taking 2.5 hours to get through Chicago traffic we were ready to call it a day and get some rest. This hotel had very nice amenities - a nice indoor pool, nicely furnished large room, and a full inclusive breakfast. The king sized bed was very comfortable. Very glad we stopped here because the next stretch of I-65 S has very few lodging accommodations.

Décor is outdated and the hotel need an overhaul. The Staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was great, had a lot to choose from. The road to the hotel need to be repaved and there is abandon business next to the hotel. The mattress were worn and the tile in the bathroom was wobbly because the grout was coming out because the floor was un level. The pole by the hot tub has mold on it and the bottom of the hot tub is rusted. Also, the bottom of the pool need to be redone.

Checked in after a hideously long drive only to discover that the A/C was only barely working as well as the refrigerator. Front desk clerk got us a fan for the night. The next day we had to change rooms which is a hassle. Then they charged my credit card again, the room was booked at a prepaid rate and had been paid for months. Then they wanted me to wait 7 business days for a refund. What??? Breakfast items did not change, same selection over 3 days. Would not stay there again.

We had a great all around experience at this Hotel. The employees went out their way to accommodate guests-they were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The Best Western was a very good hotel to stay. The room was a much better quality than other Best Western hotel. It had a separate room for the bed which made it more romantic for couples. It also had a couch, family room area that really made the room more comfortable. Very easy access to the rooms and to walk to the front desk or pool.

The location of this hotel was not the best. Directly across the street in both directions were ran down hotels with constant traffic in and out of them. The Best Western was the best of them all with outside appearance nice and clean. I would not stay there again due to the location.

Stopped for the night on our way home to tn. For the price it was not worth it. it was very run down, bathrooms way to tiny. There was a hole in our bathroom ceiling(if someone was watxhing i hope you enjoyed watching a fat girl shower). You could tell where they TRIED to paint the bathroom but did a horrible job. On the way to our room we were watched like we were going to steal something. Beds were horrible. One of the ladders on the pool was ducktaped. Wish we had chose somewhere else but we had stayed in a BW twice before on the same trip and had amazing experiences, so was not expecting any less).

I complained about no wake up call and no stop for the drain in the tub. The jets in your jaccuzi tub are also lacking Your breakfast meet did not have a non pork option. The vending machine was acting up.

This hotel is not worth the price. Low quality hotel, with low grade showers and toilets, the toilet ran all evening, the bathroom was cramped, the bed had pubic hair on the sheets, and the TV was full of static. Will never recommend to friends or go to again. Not worth the price, please pass over and pay the $15 for a BW plus

I highly recommend this hotel it is close to shopping and all of the restaurants. The staff was very professional. The room was clean and well maintained. The shopping mall is within walking distance and there are things to do like bowling and a evening at the movie theater.

"Bad Experience but Sweet Staff"

This place showed its age, badly. Bathtub bottom was ridiculously discolored from years of use. I didn't even stand in it to shower. Just gross. There was an interesting pervasive aroma which I was unable to identify until around midnight when I realized it was curry. Somehow curry seemed to be coming in through the vents. The smell dissipated by the next morning. I am a person who prides myself in being able to eat anything but I could not swallow my bite of the little sausage patty at the breakfast bar. So bad. The staff was sweet and tried hard to please which made it difficult to write this honest review.

"Good Value for a Good Night's Rest"

This is a three-story hotel with nice landscaping around the building. The staff was friendly and personable. There was super nice new hallway carpeting (at least on our floor) with a large modern pattern. Room: We had two queen beds. There was lots of table space: a desk, long dresser/TV stand, and folding suitcase stand. The beds were comfortable. There was some mold on the bath tub curtain and some stains on the upholstered chairs – left a note for the cleaning staff to remedy that (Oxy Clean for the upholstered chairs!). There were sufficient plug-ins according to my techno-nerd husband with all his electronic devices. Breakfast: There were only four tables in the breakfast room but there was space when we went down at 9:00 am (breakfast is served until 9:30 am on weekdays). Hot items included breakfast sausage, egg patties, waffles (2 stations), instant oatmeal. There was also yogurt, cereal (corn flakes, raisin bran, Fruit Loops), yogurt, toastables (brown and white bread, English muffins, mini bagels), danishes, cupcakes, apple and orange juices, coffee, tea. Interestingly, there was a Claude Monet replica of “Le Dejeuner” (“The Breakfast”) hanging in the room – nice touch. Pool: There's a wall of windows looking out on the back of the hotel (also nicely landscaped) and a wall of windows to the lobby (with privacy frosting – or whatever you call that). The pool was a nice temperature for morning laps followed by a soak in the hot tub (perfect temperature – not scalding).

I was not aware of visitation policy. A friend came to visit when he got off work at 1030pm and was told it was passed visiting hours!! This is not a nursing home or a jail. Its a hotel you pay over a 100 a night. Visitors are not allowed on premised after 10pm!!!

Had ordered a room with two beds and had to downsize. Was move into a suite with a King bed. The room was older decor but clean, almost. The bed was just a little lumpy, the toilet seat loose and a spider nest next to the mirror. Was it a 85 dollar room? No, a 65 dollar room all day

"Room Heat Not Working"

We stayed 2 nights because of a funeral. The room was 'freezing' when we walked in. at 5:00. We couldn't shut the A/C off. Called reception and the man came right away. He fiddled with the A/C for a few minutes and told us it was fixed. The heat came on before we left for the evening. When we came back at 11:00pm it was 93 degrees in the room. Called front desk again. He came immediately. He couldn't get the heat to turn off. He then moved us to another room at 11:30. I think we should of gotten a different room when we had the problem at 5:00 not at 11:30. The breakfast area is very, very small for this size of hotel. Breakfast area only seated about 6 tables. The food was OK, but supply was very limited. We have stayed at other hotels in Merrillville before, they weren't very nice either. I think it is the location (Merrillville) is a problem with the hotels. The location has high amount of tourists and the hotels just don't care.

"One Night, Unsure About Neighbourhood"

We stayed here one night to continue on our road trip. The area is a tad sketchy if you are not aware. Hubby was getting bags and witnessed odd stuff going on in the parking lot including two cars chasing each other after a fight and more. Signs outside are all about locking your vehicle and the front is actually a buzz in door after 10pm. So that's interesting. As for the hotel, it's dated. Priced well, clean and adequate. Good for a night but I'd stay elsewhere if longer.

at first i thought this could be a nightmare as i called and the girl at the desk was busy so she put the phone down and never came back. I called the hotel for 20 minutes and then no one picked up.. my phone was dead so i used a non smart phone to call the 800# where they helped me make my reservation. the rate was good and the service was a1. I got to the hotel tired and we did have to climb a flight of stairs as the hotel was almost sold out. The room had a bit of a smell to it, not sure what it was, it wasnt awful maybe just stale.. but the hotel was redone last year so not sure .. anyway.. the room was fine.. the shower and bathroom were ok.. Breakfast was hot but they dont have decaf coffee and the hot water was cold...but overall it was fine.. The hotel is right across the street from the lake too.. so in season i am sure its beautiful there. I would stay again due to the rate and the cleanliness of the hotel.. just dont make last minute reservations if you prefer downstairs..

"Nice hotel for a low price"

This was a nice hotel for a decent price. We had a king suite with a pull out couch and the room was huge!! Nice pool and hot tub area. We did not eat breakfast but some of our friends did and said it was pretty good. The bed wasn't the most comfortable but it was ok.

"Everything went wrong"

When we first got the the room we discovered that our toilet wasn't working and upon checking the bed we found the comforter and sheets to be stained a nasty yellow color. We called the front desk and right away they moved us to a new room. When we went into the new room it was freezing and when we turned on the heater it was extremely loud and squeaky. The next morning we asked for a couple extra towels so we could shower and they told us they were out of towels. Then when we went to have breakfast they were out of almost everything. Just seemed like it was one thing after another.

I'd rate this at 3.5 stars. Not luxurious, but clean and comfortable. Very nice desk staff. Nice value compared to other similar type hotels in the area. Would stay here again next time I'm in the area.

Overall a great experience and value! This place seemed very clean with a very nice pool and hot tub. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good quality value! The breakfast was hot with plenty of decent quality food. I will definitely be staying here in the near future.

My wife & I stayed here for one day on Tue, 11/24. We were promptly checked in and the staff was professional and friendly. They were kind enough to upgrade us to a suite as I am a rewards member. The room was clean, good sized and the bed was comfortable. I would stay here again.

"Good value, quick highway access, located next to great shopping"

The hotel was very clean and my room was quite nice. While the decor is a bit dated, I did not deduct from my rating because it was very clean and well cared for. I was comfortable, had a great TV, microwave and fridge in my room. The pool was lovely and also clean and friendly. The front desk people were all helpful and I got quick assistance with my luggage. There is a shopping mall just around the corner, lots of stores nearby and a great selection of restaurants. I always worry about noise near a highway, but it was not a factor. I also felt safe here, very important for a woman traveling alone. The breakfast was good for a hotel quick breakfast.

This establishment is very well operated by the Patel family. Rooms are clean and fresh. Bathroom was very nice. Adequate lobby, nice indoor pool and very good hot breakfast. Excellent accommodations at a very reasonable price.

Great place to stay with lots of stores and restaurants. Was quiet despite the proximity to the highway. Very convenient and easy to find. The staff were polite and helpful. Did not try the breakfast. The pool looked inviting, but I did not try it. Everything was clean - perhaps a bit dated, but well cared for.

we were treated with the utmost respect upon arrival. offered the best of treatment, as a Gold Elite member. our room was very nice, clean and quiet night sleep. some cosmetic wear, but very insignificant and understandable compared to compliments we received. porter wagons were accessible and convenient. i would stay here again, given the opportunity.

Reception and check-out staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and the accessible roll-in shower and other bathroom facilities worked well for us. Our breakfast was fresh and tasty. All together, a good place to stay.

Our stay was clean, safe, and comfortable. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. We visit our son in Madison, Wisconsin often and Merrillville is the perfect stopping off point for our travel. We found this Inn to suit our needs perfectly.

Staying close to the south side of Chicago with a group of school kids from northern WI had me a bit nervous, but I was quite satisfied with the quality, security and value of this hotel. It is located in what appears to be a safe neighborhood, is conveniently located near I-65, was very well maintained and clean, and had a helpful, accommodating staff. I am planning on staying here in future years, it was a great hotel.

Nice staff at check-in. Rooms were clean, but out-dated. Breakfast was for the most part non-existent (empty items, things out / missing), etc. milk was bad / old. If you're looking to spend about $100 per night, which we did with our AAA discount, then there are better hotels in the area I'm quite sure. But if you set your expectations at average, you should be pleased.

"Disappointing Experience"

The staff were very unfriendly, some of the furniture in the room looked like it was from a yard sale. Couldn't sit in the desk chair. Towels very thin and bed linens didn't fit the bed so that when you got in bed they pulled out and got all tangled upl.

I always stay at this hotel when I am working in northern Indiana. The staff are overly friendly and helpfu. The rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast is available. It is convenient to the highway and mall.

Great amenities, friendly staff and clean room! Took less than 6 minutes to check in and even faster to check out. Delicious breakfast, many choices. Nice pool for kids. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is traveling or who just wants a nice get away.

"Needs some TLC"

This is a nice Hotel for say... Room was very clean.. Parking lot had a lot of mud in it. But we had had a rain before I got there. Out side door locks not working on one end. The windows and screens need replace in the pool hot tub area. They look really bad. The hot tub is a hot tub from hell. The water blast out like a fire hose. You can't turn it down just take the water hitting you in the face. I stuck some towels in a few of the jets and that helped. Stay away from the breakfast. thing they got the eggs at a sidewalk sale. Two hot foods they offer, crappy eggs and sausage. you can make a waffle. Best to walk down the street for real food.

Just needed a place to sleep for one night. The room was clean and comfortable, the front desk help was friendly. Liked the free local newspaper. We did need more towels and shampoo, and received them promptly. No complaints!

The hotel seemed old and dated mixed with some updates. Breakfast area is very small. The eggs and sausage were cold and we had to reheat them in the microwave. We did report this! I think they are Overpriced! The room was clean. We did hear people making noise in other rooms and in the hallway. It was fine for one night.
