« Nice place to stay in Melbourne »

The location is great! In the free tram zone and next to the Yarra river. The view in the room is fantastic you can have a great river view and casino as well. Room is spacious and clean, bed is comfortable and provide daily service. New carpet in the room and corridor. Will come back in the future.

« Nice view, great location, good for family. »

Couple of maintenance issues but nothing serious. When we reached the hotel our room/apartment wasn't ready and we were told to check in. I wasn't disappointed as they immediately gave a different apartment which was smaller but location wise amazing. Great city view. 2 rooms, dining and living area, kitchen and a tiny balcony. Everything was available in the kitchen.. utensils, oven, dishwasher, microwave etc. Location was equally good.

« Desperate need for refurbishment but good location »

Recently visited Melbourne and stayed at the Best Western Riverside apartments for the first time. Positives: Location next to the river. Apartment clean and bed comfortable. Negatives: Walls in building on floor level bashed and dirty. Looked like the apartment had never been updated - even the appliances are very old. Summary: I don't think having a great location is an excuse to not invest back into updating the apartments and fixing the building. Won't stay there again.

« Great location and good value »

A short walk from Southern Cross station and within walking distance to the offices in Southbank. There is also a tram stop right outside. We were allocated a huge apartment on the 15th floor and so had magnificent views over the river. The trains below were audible but were of no concern. Some of the fittings were a bit tired and there was no soap dish in the shower, however for the price it was good value.

« Good-sized Apartments, Helpful Staff, Central Location. Not Buggy Friendly. Needs Refurbishment. »

We arrived at the hotel around 0730 as most long haul flights land in Australia in the morning. The reception team were exceptionally helpful and accommodating. The initial offer to get our apartment done by 1000 was beaten by a subsequent offer of immediate check-in to a similar sized apartment which was not occupied the previous night. This involved moving a number of reservations around, but did mean a few hours rest to combat jet-lag. This was particularly helpful for the children. This pro-active offer of an early check-in beats any upgrade that could have been offered (I am Diamond Select). In addition, another member of the reception team helped us with our luggage to the apartment. That's the best service I have ever received at a serviced apartment, hence a 5-stars rating service. Located on Flinders Street, it is walking distance to Southern Cross station if you only have hand luggage. There are a number of recommendations for this property: 1) No disabled access to reception or main entrance to the apartments - we had twin infants and the buggy had to be hand carried every time we went in and out. This was a huge inconvenience for us. 2) The bed in the Master bedroom was arched in the middle on one side, so it sags under pressure (see photo). I only discovered this on the first night, so had to place towels under the wheel to make the night bearable. There was no replacement double bed available, so I had to sleep in the living room on an extra single bed. 3) The ceiling in the bathrooms is stained and possible moulded (see photo) - this needs urgent work. Had everything been in working order and the bathroom clean, this would have been excellent value for a city centre apartment. Fortunately, the staff here have gone above and beyond to help us, raising the overall score to average.

    « Needs a bit of work! »

We stayed at the Best Western in an apartment and to be honest it was ok. The room was a little run down and needed some upgrades. It was quite noisy outside which kept me awake a little bit during the night. On a positive the apartment was spacious with kitchenette. Ir was centrally located and for us was a place to only sleep as we were out all day.

    « Terrible service »

not satisfied at all. poor hot water system, extreme slow speed of internet, painting walls without informing us beforehand, smell and sticky everywhere, smell is harmful to our health especially kids!!

« Moldy and in need of remodeling »

We were disgusted with the moldy conditions. There was no way for us to find another place. Bedrooms were not set up appropriately. The location is great but horrible room conditions. We found it easy to walk to many great places

« Warning. Ripped off big time ! »

Received a confirmation email in December 2017 after booking accommodation for March 2018. Rang this week to confirm booking and told room had been cancelled with no notification whatsoever. Have friends coming to Melbourne from interstate. Absolutely gutted. Would not recommend ever !

    « 1st Anniversary »

Brilliant size apartment very spacious. Fantastic view , close to Southbank. Right across from Aquarium. The bed was very comfy and big. We did have a little noise from the trains. We will definitely stay here again.

« Best views of river »

Wow! i was really impressed by this place and will be definitely be staying here again booking through Expedia. l had booked a 1 bedroom river view apartment and when we arrived we were upgraded to 2 bedroom apartment much to our excitement. The view was very impressive on the 16th floor. We had views of the Yarra River, Crown Casino and could also see the Bay in close by. The apartment was massive, clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. The windows in the bedroom overlooking the river had double glazed windows to keep out the noise at night. l really couldn't fault this place and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a great view. The view at night was spectacular of the Crown Casino flames too

« Cheap but not cheerful »

Well where do you start on this place? We stayed in the annexed apartments and they were small, smelly, noisy and generally horrible. Outside noise unbearable all night due to location, bed hard as a rock and the whole apartment generally unloved. The only bonus was the price and closeness to Casino and Etihad!!

    « On a budget maybe... »

My boss books this place each time we travel to Melb for work because it's affordable. Sadly it's not for me! It's old and tired and has an air freshener smell through out. The bathroom is not good the basin tape leaks and the floor of the bath tub stand up shower has seen better days. The tv in the main living area is old and is still being operated by a digital set top box. The carpets are stained and there was a funny while stain on the two seater lounge. If you have a car bigger than an i30 you will struggle to get it into their garage. Expect 20 point turns to manoeuvre around the exceptional tight pillars and small car spaces. The front staff are lovely and really helpful and it's location is very central.

Great location. Self contained Apartments were large & very functional. Very handy to cafes & coffee shops & to walk to south bank particularly DFO. Beds were comfortable. Definitely come back & would recommend them.

« Wouldn't stay again if in the "annexe" »

Check in staff (gentleman) was lovely. I was promptly shown to my room in the Annexe building. This is about 40m away from the main building, up the alley and in a slightly seedy area. I hadn't realised when making the booking that there are two separate parts to this hotel. The room itself is a bit tired, stains and chips throughout, however it was clean and amenities were provided. I was staying for one night to attend a seminar nearby. The windows would benefit from double glazing as the noise on a Saturday night from the nightclub essentially next door and its patrons was continous. In the morning there were still numerous revellers milling outside the entrance and the street was filthy. I realise this not the hotels fault but as a single female traveller it was a bit unnerving when heading out to find coffee/breakfast. The free Wifi does work although a bit sporadically but in Australia it is always just nice that its free. I might consider staying again if in the main building but I wouldn't stay on my own or with younger children in the annexe part.

« Much better than what I was expecting... »

I was booked into the Best Western Riverside Apartments while I was in town for a training course. After reading the reviews here on TA I was very apprehensive about what the room would be like. I am pleased to say that my room in the Annex (room 12) was really good. It was exceptionally clean, spacious, had a comfortable bed and nice big bathroom. If you are staying for a longer period of time the kitchen is stocked with the basic that you would need to prepare simple meals. The only issue is that its a bit noisy at night where you can hear cars/motorbikes, people going past etc , but hey, its right in the City, so that's to be expected. I had ear plugs with me so I put them in and got a good night sleep. Service from Dan on reception was very good. I truly had nothing to worry about. I spoke to the person staying in room 6 and she was more than happy with her apartment as well. I have no complaints and would stay again.

« Nice room, good location »

I was pleasantly surprised by this room, given the price we paid for it. It was a clean room, it included a good size fridge, dishwasher, stove and oven with enough equipment to make our own meals. It is in a great location and the service from staff was fantastic. We attended a game at AAMI Park which was approx 20 min walk as well as being close to Bourke St Mall and the city itself, so very convenient. Look forward to staying here again

« Not a 4 star hotel - Customer service could be improved »

We arrived at the hotel having booked a riverview apartment (with a small balcony), only to be told 'sorry, we have a new system' and a riverview apartment is not available until the next day.... the way we were presented with that information was as if 'we should just accept that and move on'... needless to say we complained but had no option other than check in given that it was a busy period with the australian open tennis in Melbourne.... Our 'City view' apartment was certainly not at the 4 star level...especially at the increased rate given the Tennis event in Melbourne... dirty windows.. dirty carpet and guess what the safe is not working... we were told 'all safes are going to be removed from the rooms' and 'balconies are shut for OHS reasons'... for a smoker who always book rooms with balconies, i wouldn't have booked that place had I known this information in advance... Anyway, after an initial disappointment and with a different staff member at the reception (an elderly gentleman), we moved to our riverview apartment the next day... the gentleman was very friendly, offered a bottle of wine with his apology and understanding... we felt well treated... our new apartment was also much nicer with great views... spacious, clean and would be rated a 4 star place.... despite the initial disappointment we enjoyed our stay... the friendliness of the gentleman, and the riverview apartment, was a major factor in that result

    « Nice appartment »

We booked this hotel for 2 adults and 2 children. The reception and lobby are clean and well equipped except for access with suitcases which can be tricky but not impossible. The apartment was well laid out and had plenty of space for us all to sleep and lounge as required. The only strange thing we found was that the smoke/fire detector was apparently 'easy to set off' and could result in a massive charge from the fire department?

« Do Yourself a favour and avoid this place »

Never in my life have I been so utterly disgusted with the room we were given. As this is booked online and you book based on the pictures supplied of rooms that looked "Really Nice" Having firstly been really surprised on arrival at how Run down the Reception area was, we started to get a very bad feeling. After a brief conversation with a less than helpful reception person we were directed to "the Annex" The entrance to the Annex is shared with a "Massage Parlour". Could this get any worse....and then we opened the door to the room. I cant really describe how poor this was but it certainly was not a room that feature in any of the marketing pictures. A general feeling of some horrible student accommodation. Pretty disgusting. We pretty much decided there and then that we would not be subjecting ourselves to this"misery" of a place. We've just travelling across the world to "this".... We kept a hold of the keys for the duration to save any other poor sucker having to be subjected to this. We booked ourselves into the Radisson on Flagstaff, Hailed a Taxi, and left this nightmare behind. Unfortunately our booking was Non-refundable. This was a room that cost about £110.00 per night !!! I was expecting much better. The Radisson cost less and were so much better. Best Western.......you should be ashamed... Zero Stars

    « Delightful »

We were in a suite on the 17th floor. Room had been newly renovated. It was large and spacious with a view over the Yarra River and we could see Port Phillip Bay. Sitting room was very clean. Bathroom was spotless and also had washing machine and dryer. Kitchenette was well equipped and also very clean. Location was great, with tram stop at the corner of Highlander Lane. The location is also across the road from the railway line and the trains were a bit noisy but not too invasive. We parked our car downstairs. There was a cost but it was convenient. Very secure. Online price was excellent.

« Great stay in a great location for family visit »

This was a great location for me and the kids on their first Melbourne trip. While the apartment is a bit tired, the location, parking and access to city and Southbank etc. is great. We had a great time and the staff were great.

    « Location Location »

Great location close to Etihad, CBD and Casino. We had a two bedroom Penthose which sleeps eight people. Grat Balcony with stunning views at night. Pros Location Parking available Reasonalbly priced Lovely staff Room had all amenities, ie bathroom, laundry and kitchen supplies Cons Beds uncomfortable Parking expensive Ensuite bathroom very small No shelf in showers Overall not too bad if you are just looking for a room overnight, it serves a purpose, but there are much nicer rooms out there. Cheap option if you have a few people though. Would possibly book again if couldnt find something else in the price range in the same area, but would only be a last resort though

    « Terrible hotel »

Great location however it is an disgraceful apartment. Very outdated, broken drawers and doors. Waste of money staying here. The hotel requires urgent renovations. Very disappointing to end our holiday here. If I could afford to change hotels I would but have already prepaid for the room. Not the ideal place to have a holiday at all. Please rethink your holiday before you book this hotel.

    « spacious apartments! »

Myself and 2 girlfriends stayed here whilst visiting Melbourne for a Justin Bieber concert. The apartments themselves are in a shady looking spot/alleyway opposite a pub so I was a bit skeptical at first. However we were pleasantly suprised when we were greeted by a super helpful receptionist after having a few hiccups with the booking we had made, she was very reassuring and calm. The room we booked (cannot recall what type) was HUGE and so spacious-(a room with two single beds, a seperate room with a double, a full kitchenette complete with appliances, a loungeroom with flat screen TV, seperate bathroom with large mirror (ideal for 3 girls getting ready!) and a dining table. Everything was spotless and the beds were comfortable too. The only downside was that there was a group of other young people causing noise disturbance in the hotel till 2-3am which we were annoyed was not dealt with by staff earlier, as this made for bad nights sleep and a groggy 2 hour train ride home the next morning. Overall I would stay here again because I liked the spaciousness of the rooms when sharing with others and the beds were quite soft too. If you're someone who likes your personal space and don't want to feel boxed in then this would be a great fit for you!

    « Excellent staff. »

We were upgraded to another apartment as the toilet stopped working, as soon as I rang they fixed us up immediately. We were very happy with our accommodation. The staff on reception went above and beyond to help. I left my license there, they rang and then posted it straight away. They were excellent

    « Great »

The Location is Great. Right across the road from the aquarium. The price was extremely reasonable and the staff were super helpful and polite. Service was very friendly and the apartment very spacious. Next time we are in Melbs as a family, we'll come straight back to Best Western :)

    « DONT STAY HERE »

What a disgusting cesspool of filth this establishment is - and I'm not just talking about the cleanliness (or lack their of) of the room. We stayed on the 15th floor in a suite. At first glance it looked very nice - spacious, great views across the Yarra, 2 bedrooms, 2 living areas, bathroom and kitchen - perfect for our family (my mum and dad, sister, myself and my daughter). But then we started looking through each room - the kitchen was so disgusting with what looked to be years of built up dirt around the rim of the in-bench rubbish disposal, sticky dust around the oven and rangehood, finger prints all over the microwave and a floor so sticky I was sure my thongs were going to have a blow out. The top of the toilet cistern hasn't been cleaned in at least a decade with dust an inch thick and someone else's hair in each corner of the room and shower. Mould all over the shower tiles. Floors throughout were so filthy, within 10 mins I was off to Target to get my daughter a cheap outfit to crawl around in which we disposed of when we left. Floor rug in lounge room had stains all over it and coffee table dusty with rubbish on the shelf underneath. Windows overlooking river I think I can say with complete confidence have never seen a squirt of Windex. But aside from the general uncleanliness of the place, the absolute highlight of our stay had to be our neighbours. What a bunch of oxygen thieves. They rolled into their room about 9pm on the second night of our stay. The room my sister, I and my daughter were staying in shared a communal balcony with them where they stood outside talking loudly, smoking, drinking and coughing up their lungs. By 1.30am after overhearing a call to their drug dealer for the delivery of drugs to the hotel room, id had enough and called reception - when no body answered I decided to call the emergency number supplied in the hotel room booklet. I was greeted by such an unhelpful lady who couldn't have cared less about the noise or the drug taking going on 2 metres from my daughters head and said she would simply call the police. Well I'm not sure if those police were ever called because the only thing that finally put a stop to the noise, (albeit for an hour or two), after listening to the most pleasant sound of a grown man projectile vomiting into our window, was my sister having to yell at them to get inside their room - by this stage it was 3am. The next day we informed the lady at reception of the goings on and once again she couldn't have cared less - seems to be a common theme with staff here. I wouldn't recommend this accommodation to anyone, expect maybe a bunch of crackheads who can do their drugs here without the police interrupting. Do yourself a favour and spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere.

    « Convenient location only »

The location is convenient - access is not disable friendly. Rooms are spacious, bedrooms are tight - queens size beds in double bed size room so a bit of a squeeze to get around. Needs major upgrading. On site parking is over priced and extremely limited, although local public parking is next door - it too is excessively over priced. Our group booked a number of rooms - security is pretty good,

« I wish our room looked like pictures »

I've stayed in the city a lot over the years and we were really disappointed with the quality of the room for the price we paid. Carpets weren't evenly placed down with knots which were a potential trip hazard. Bathrooms were in need of full renovation and a decent clean- see pictures. Even our cushion covers on the bed needed a wash which was not nice. Rooms had double glazing for sound but it was still very noisy from street noise. Full room rennos would bring this place up to its four star ratings and price tag. There are other hotels right near here we've stayed at with no noise, cleaner and better bathrooms. What was good: Staff were super nice. Kitchen was very well equipped for cooking- above average with utensils. You did have to pay for parking but it was in a great location with a lift.

« A reasonable apartment in Melbourne CBD »

The apartment looks clean. They offer kitchen, cooking set and dinnerware for guests to cook if you wanna do. The bed is so big for even 2 people but the mattress is not very good. Anyway, the hotel locates at CBD of Melbourne which is convenient for you to go to supper market, metro station, skybus station and very near Chinatown where you can have Chinese style lunch and dinner.

    3
« Central location, average quality »

Location is central, close to the city center and Docklands, but accordingly noisy. I stayed in an annex building apartment, which is likely a different category than the main building. The apartment was spacious and quite comfortable, although it could use some fixing. The fly net and the window opener were falling apart, and the shower could really use an upgrade. Cleaning is reduced to emptying the bins and providing new towels. There are plates and cutlery in the kitchen, but cleaning them is not included in the room's rate - which you only find out if reading the guest book; and while there is a dishwasher, there are no dish-washing tablets. Staff was kind and helpful, but at times not really knowing how to solve things. For example, hotel guests can use the Wilson parking right next to the hotel for $35/night, but staff did not tell me beforehand where the parking they provide is, and did not know how I can make actual use of their special rate when leaving the parking building.

    « Not Happy »

Arrived with grandchild, were told we were not staying in main Motel but up the lane, not happy. Got to our room after pulling bags up lane. Booked for three and only a bouble bed, rang office staff (laughed), after a long wait they said we would have to moive back down to main hotel so off we go and up another lift to our room bigger room not any cleaner hum still only a king size bed this time, will have to get you a roll out bed please wait. It arrived sleep time. The dish washer was dirty and very smelly. Carpets were very dirty and badly marked. Staff were ok. Will not return.

« Photos subject to room. »

Me and my partner stayed 3 nights here at Best western. Its a nice area close to the tram lines and somewhat central to Burke street shopping area. It was a little hard to catch an uber there so i would suggest putting highlander lane rather than Flinders street as it was easier for the uber drivers to find you. staff at the reception we really accommodating to our late flight and our check out needs, and the wifi is really good. However the apartment room itself was a let down, me and my partner were really disappointing that out one bedroom apartment was no to the standard that was shown on the website, we had dirty carpet floors , and a ripped up section of carpet in front of our bed. Side lamp was faulty , bathroom had dirty towels left in it from the previous customers and the floors were dirty. It was outdated and needed a face lift , we were on the 15th floor and it was a great view but you couldn't go out to the tiny balcony as it was sealed off by excess glass frames. Just be careful when you book , cause not all the one bedroom apartments are the same as they look on the website which was a really big shame. i was so disappointed that it wasn't up to standard. Please update your ALL YOUR apartments as its a great apartment area that's in dire need of a fix up !!

    3
    « Convenient »

Spacious and roomy is the sense you get when first arrived. The bedroom carpet smelled like it had smelly feet on it. Probably needs to be shampooed. Tv remote broken and light bulb needed to be changed in the side lamps. Plenty of noise from the patrons in the pub downstairs in the early morning hours and construction noise from building. Other than that you are in the heart of the CBD, so convenience is key. If you are not bothered by the noise then this will suit you fine. Room 13 needs a clean management of Riverside. Thanks.

« The First and the last time! »

I stayed here because it was close to a clients offices but next time will stay somewhere further away and walk. Where do I start? the night I arrived, at 10pm and the reception door was closed with no way to get in. Luckily someone came past and let me in. The receptionist said oh yes it's new I was trying to call you but I only have your home number and there was no reply. Well that's because my home is in sydney and I am in Melbourne! Next, your room is up that dark alley and just around the corner, next to the massage parlour I think the door will be open. Use the code on your key to get up in the lift. A tired, dirty looking, glass lift. The apartment had a double bed with ensuite bathroom. Bed not the most comfortable & a very small TV. Bathroom functional but shower very small and a very noisy toilet flush. Watch out for the safety hazard when you exit the bathroom and go flying over the carpet which was not secured to the runner. I nearly broke my neck & I took a photo of it. The TV in the lounge was plugged in but would not turn on using the remote I had to do it manually by switching it on underneath, and to change channels. TV in bedroom did work with remote. I had a cup of instant coffee and the spoons in the drawer looked grubby plus there was a hair in the drawer. A hair grip on the lounge carpet which didn't appear to have been vacuumed recently. The worst thing for me was the noise I am writing this at 1.20am as all I can hear Is boom, boom, boom from some pub or nightclub that is not even visible from my window which overlooks the alley. If you put your hand on the glass you can feel it vibrating so it's a Monday night and when I checked in last night it was the same noise. Even if you are not in the alley and directly on Flinders street you are overlooking the railway line and behind that you can see the river. So what with pub music blasting till the early hours or alternatively trams and trains pulling up at the station opposite don't expect a quiet early night. Reception closes at 11pm Monday - Thursday so even though the guest directory says in an emergency dial 9 for reception just don't bother after 11pm like I did because nobody answers. I travel frequently for work often to Melbourne and Brisbane I will not be staying here again as for the money I paid I know I can stay in some very nice apartments with a pool, gym and restaurant for the same money. It's worth the 10 minutes extra walk to the clients office! By the way both my mobile phones ( Vodafone and Optus) struggled to find any network in the building. Wifi was extremely painful and slow. Wish there was one thing good I could say but unfortunately there isn't.

    « Buyer Beware »

I booked my five night stay at Best Western Riverside Apartments through Wotif about four weeks in advance. I was looking for a serviced apartment handy to both the CBD and the Crown Convention Centre. Location-wise this place fits the bill. It is in easy walking distance from Spencer Street station/Skybus terminal (airport bus service) and a few blocks down to Elizabeth Street and the city's shopping. And about a 10 minute walk to the Crown complex on Southbank. It's also in close proximity to trams and other public transport options. And not too expensive. So far so good. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon. The booking indicated that my room was in the ?Anex? but I had no idea what that meant as the Wotif website really didn't provide any meaningful information. As it turned out, the Anex is a separate dingy-looking building on another block on Flinders Lane. Got to my room on level 3 and had a look around the apartment. That's when I discovered that it seems very little effort goes into customer service: neither TV would tune in (after a call to reception when I told them neither TV was working properly they came and sorted out the TV in the living area but never touched the bedroom TV); the painting in the bedroom was askew and never straitened; one bedside lamp didn't work (yes, it was plugged in & switched on!); and the fridge was really noisy ? making an annoying chugging noise. On the plus side the apartment was a good size with a table for two and a somewhat shabby couch. The kitchenette was well equipped. The bedroom was fine with plenty of hanging space in the wardrobes. The queen bed was comfortable. The bathroom was narrow and the shower cubicle was tiny ? smaller than a telephone box! But it was good that there was plenty of storage space in the bathroom. They provided nice fluffy towels. I received 2 new ones every day bar one whether I needed them or not and ended up with a towel tower on the rack. Unthinking ?service'. I ventured outside and found the hotel (and the annex in particular) is located in a seedy part of Melbourne ? just around the corner on King Street was a series of what appear to be strip joints. The street was filthy Saturday night and Sunday morning people were still streaming out of the clubs at 9am. Needless to say it was very noisy from street noise throughout the night (and on the other nights) even though the hotel is supposed to have soundproofed rooms! Completely misleading. I was out most of Sunday and returned to my room at 4:00pm. I was really surprised to find that the room hadn't been serviced. About 20 minutes later they came but I was about to have a shower. I asked them to come back in an hour but said they couldn't as they were finishing for the day but they would let reception know. The bed had been made when I returned later in the evening. One day they left plastic bin bag on the kitchen benchtop. They didn't wash the plate, knife and glass I'd left in the sink. On Wednesday they finally washed the couple of dishes I'd left. This is supposed to be a daily service serviced apartment. In my experience, it says to me that the focus is on minimising costs and don't worry about delighting the paying guest. A worrying aside - there was an outer door for my and next door's rooms. It had a sign indicating it was a fire safety door and was not to be kept open. But it was kept open all the time I was there. All I can say is if you're thinking of staying here, avoid the Anex! I can't vouch for the main hotel but I will never willingly stay here again.

    « Desperate for a refurbish. »

We stayed 3 nights, our apartment was a 2 bedroom river view!! Great view of the River, shame about the train station below. Our apartment is in desperate need of refurbishing, Everything needs upgrading especially the carpet and bathrooms. My husband and I had the second bedroom, it was extremely tiny, we had no place to put anything, then when we went to close our roller doors to our room that night, we discover that they are frosted glass in the middle. Not okay when you are with adult friends!!! No soundproofing as we could hear the trains all night and day. Great location to see everything, but the price doesn't reflect the quality. If you do stay here upgrade to a river view. Room servicing was supposed to be everyday, this was very poorly done.

« Was nice and comfortable »

Was a lovely place to stay. Catered for out whole family nicely. The steep stairs in the entry doorway was interesting, and had a lovely private rooftop access, but be careful, we got locked out and had to call the helpdesk. Close to the Aquarium.

    « Slightly disappointed:( »

First impressions as you walk into lane way to front door is very good, cool little bar across small lane way, across river from crown very friendly receptionist. Check in smooth. Room (15 floor studio apartment) was huge with commanding views of city and river. Great sound proof from busy city. Here lies my issues Cleanliness of apartment was average full ashtray on bedroom "balcony", dirty railings of sliding "balcony" door, stains on bedroom floor, tripped on loose carpet from bedroom into bathroom and spiderweb, smells like a smokers room and dirt above kitchen sink on inside window edge. I'm still here for another five days Melbourne fantastic city

« A Great Place to Stay in the City »

We booked five rooms for a family gathering and celebration and everybody was very pleasantly surprised at the size and amenity of these apartments. You could happily live in them. Riverside Apartments are situated in a central laneway opposite and overlooking the Casino and the river. Other apartments have city views. It couldn't be better located for a night out on the town. Even the one bedroom apartment was spacious and the two and three bedroom ones were luxurious in the spaciousness. They were very well equipped with almost everything you might need. (except matches for a birthday cake!! Does no-body smoke any more?) For accommodation in the city you couldn't go past Riverside Apartments.

« 4 bed but only enough hot water for two »

Good location in the city but definitely only 2.5 star not 4. Arrived in at 7pm and heating was not on. Had to sit with our jackets on for half hour before the ice melted. Only had an under sink hot water cylinder so cold showers for half our group. Holes in the carpet and grubby lounge. Clean sheets though. Not returning and it spoilt out trip

    « I wish I knew I'd be sleeping next to a club that's open till 8:00am on a Sunday morning, »

We came here because we normally like Best Western. When we first arrived from the airport our room wasn't ready, we had a footy game to go to so had to wait till after the game was over to check-in, at least we were able to leave our suitcase till we came back. When we came back, we're told we're not in this building but rather the Annex which is on Flinders Lane. We checked out the room, it was a pretty decent size. What we did not know till much later was that there is a bar/club right behind our bedroom. So in the middle of the night there are drunk idiots screaming, loud music blaring on King Street and someone had entered the hallway to the lift and left a big mess that upon leaving we had to navigate around. We don't travel much, so this was a really disappointing way to end our trip.

« Convenient location and value for money »

Stayed here twice on way to and from home. Chose on location and price but was a bit worried on the feedback noted on here. Well I'm glad we did stay. On first stay we had a one bedroom apartment and was pleasantly surprised. Positives - full kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Seperate lounge and dining. Also had a single bed next to kitchen. Negative- our bedroom was a bit on small side and was hard to walk around door. No view. Our second visit we were upgraded to a two bedroom apartment and this was awesome. We had a small balcony (very small) with views of Southbank. Check-in super easy and location was great for us. Both rooms were quiet and beds comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. Great value for money.

« Decent inner city service apartment. »

Stayed here recently and I must state the location is excellent. The property check in is actually down a small street off Flinders St. Check in was smooth and reception staff friendly. The room was a spacious 2 bd apartment on the 15 floor with great views. Slight issue with the bedding lay out. I booked a Queen and 2 singles, but instead the room had 2 Queens. We made it work. The lounge and dining rooms were well set out. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen ideal. All photos on the site are a true representation of this property and I would stay here again if the price was right.

    « 4 night stay »

Professional staff at checkin, very knowledgeable & informative. Room was clean, lounge spacious, had everything we needed. Location location, close to tram stops, 2 main train stations & South Bank, free wifi. Around the corner from night clubs, so people noise could be a problem in the mornings, but with all the pluses and value for money, it really wasn't a problem

« Two essential things in modern life don't work here... »

Wifi and shower. I do not recommend this place. You knew that already. The shower in our apartment was appalling. Dribbly warm water. The worst shower I've had to endure since the 1990s and travelling round the worst B&B's in the UK... I was single then... I've got three kids now... processing them after a day at the zoo under a flow like that is a new hell... The shower was small too and to add insult to injury there were cruddy soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower that didn't work and made you feel like you were in some kind of institution. The wifi... ha ha ha ha ha... Signs too, in the kitchen that put the fear of god into you about cooking... basically they said, kick start the fire alarm with your burnt toast and face the possibility of a four -figure fine... Yes be careful, but maybe design your place better... Reception is not 24 hour. That was advertised to be fair. Reception confused we'd paid for our parking in advance. Reception didn't really care... really. Apartment was big. Brown carpet was stained, to an impressive degree. Dishwasher didn't open properly, because the cupboard door was placed in front of it at such an angle... they built this in a Friday afternoon... You get the picture. Poor. So don't bother. Plenty of better, modern apartments in Melbourne... and more and more going up. Avoid... Free wifi... hah ha ha hah haaaaaaaaa Good luck with that... Oh yeah, the air con... noisy.

« Great Location, Friendly Staff »

This hotel was conveniently located for our trip to Etihad Stadium. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Price was competitive. View of the city was lovely, but there was a bit of street noise on a Saturday night.

    « Location location location »

The staff were great, the lift in the annex was out and as an older couple walking up the stairs was a nightmare. The staff were outstanding and transferred us to the main building, we had to move twice we packed they moved. It will certainly be our port of call on our next trip to Melbourne - Easy access to the city, walking to Southbank, and the free trams were great.Apartments well appointed, clean and comfortable

    « Relaxing Night »

Stayed here only for one night. Was so near to all of the busy spots along the river just where we needed. The staff were really nice and we got a very warm welcome. Good view of one of the Rialto Towers too. This set of apartments are perfect if you want to be near to the Crown Casino and good restaurants. Thank you. Rick & Leah

    « Girls' Night Out »

Booking was easy and reception service was excellent. Good to have on site parking at a very reasonable $35 overnight and half a day. The room was reconfigured so we had 3 single beds and a queen for the four of us. Nice enough room and a good view from the 17th floor, all amenities were very clean and up to standard and suited our needs. Nice space on the balcony. Felt very safe and secure with the monitored entry and exit.

« Great Service and a Convenient Location »

Best Western Riverside Apartments had a suite available for me for five days. I was so pleased with the attentive room attendant service and the front office personnel. The rooms were cleaned daily with special requests easily handled by a team of service people who came in and quickly did up the room. The rooms were tidy with a washer and dryer as well as a full kitchen. There was an elevator. The front office personnel were very competent and went the extra mile (I did not have a smart phone and they researched locations and made appointments without a fuss). They had a computer in the lobby but it was not functioning; however before I left they fixed the problem. I was traveling with friends with special dietary needs and having the kitchen was essential.

« Poor shady location and bad service »

The reception is hidden in a lane and the actual apartments are a short walk from reception. The entrance to the apartment block is a private property. This was very uncomfortable. The lift was not working. The atual apartment was decently sized. However, the property is very old. Service was poor. I had to call 4 times for early check-in. Not even once the receptionist bothered to call back and inform when the room was ready. The apartment is next door to shady night clubs. Long walk from Southern Cross station. Definitely not recommended.

    2
« Not up to expectation »

People are OK nice. Location kind of hidden and taxi driver (with 20 years experience - supposedly) not able to find it. The carpet is in quite poor disgusting condition both inside and outside in the hallway. The safe does not work - we were told that they do not work anymore - why advertise still has a safe then. Otherwise our unit was just old. Would not come back or recommend at all. The good thing is that it is close to convention center and the apartment is large.

    3
« Great customer service, good value »

Had to walk down a lane way to find reception, but once there staff were friendly and welcoming. Some of the hallways etc were a bit dated and shabby. The family room we stayed in was very spacious, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, large living and dining area, and a kitchen. Plus an extra bed. Fabulous views!!! Comfortable beds for a great night's sleep. Rooms have obviously been refurbished, but ceilings are low, and old fashioned popcorn ceilings. Showers were small and had stained and missing grout, which was a shame in renovated bathrooms. One towel had a very odd smell, and covers on the beds were lightly marked. Great location to walk to restaurants and etihad stadium. Overall a comfortable stay, at a great price. Can't expect 5* at this price ;-) Spacious rooms for families and good staff.

« KICKED OUT BEFORE CHECKOUT »

Poor customer service We were happy to pay for late checkout but were told just to be out of the apartment by 12:00pm. At 11:08am my friend came into the room scared and was yelling that a man was in our apartment. I walked out to see and a manager was yelling at us saying "evacuate the premises right now" when i tried to speak to him saying we were told checkout was at 12:00pm he repeated what he said. We were rushed to gather all of our stuff and continually yelled at by this man with no justification whatsoever. As we were rushed out we were unable to leave the apartment completely clean but we did our best under the pressure. When the key was returned we were given a $200 fine for a noise complaint at 8:00pm. We refused to pay this and left as we were not given the appropriate warnings. Later that day we called twice to speak to the manager and was told there was no manager on duty. We were also accused of being noisy all night when we actually left the apartment at 10:30pm that night and turned the music down way before this. The manager did not believe we left at 10:30pm and we told him to check the cameras and that we have photos on our phone to prove it. Never have i been yelled at and treated like a child like i was that morning. The manager barged into our room, scared my friend and did not give us a chance to explain that we were told we could leave at 12:00pm. I hope they never treat others like we were treated this day. For sure my friends and I will never be returning.

« Not one of the best location or accomoodations »

Don't be fooled by the main photo. We were in an annexe which is just round the corner from here.Having been dropped off by a taxi at this main entrance we then had to drag 4 cases from Reception round to a pokey little entrance, that looked vaguely dodgy; through a key coded lift to our apartment. The entrance had a run down feel as the shop adjoining it was empty, with mail piled up and the doorway was obviously used for smoking and drinking as there was litter. The apartment itself was OK for 2 nights. The hotel did warn that it was noisy and they weren't wrong. The main room/kitchenette backs onto the main road, which is noisy from both traffic and revellers attending the nearby bar, but the bedroom is set further back, so we did have a good nights sleep. The area generally has a run down feel. Breakfast wasn't provided, so there are nearby fast food outlets or The Grain Store which was the best thing about the area. It's a reasonable location for walking to the main streets or a short walk from the hop on bus. Hotel reception staff were very helpful with storing bags before our room was ready and recommending places to eat and visit, hence we found The Grain Store.

    « Pleasant stay »

The welcome on arrival was very friendly. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed with everything that we needed for a one night stay. We stayed in a single bedroom apartment on the 17th floor. The location is fantastic and easy to access. Very easy and short walk to South Bank, Casino and Exhibition Center or walk or tram ride into the center of the city. Would stay here again.

« Worst hotel I've ever stayed in »

I'm no snob but this is one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. After 20 hrs on the run, all I wanted was a bed but no one at reception so couldn't get in. Then sent down to road to other property that is absolutely filthy, there is garbage in the "foyer" if you can call it that. The place stinks. It's extremely noisy, has no facilities, it seriously should be knocked down so they can start again. Now there are people screaming at each other in the corridor. I'm wondering if it gets rented out by the hour. Seriously do not stay here.

    « Pleasant stay »

Stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment , very large and accommodated 7 sleeping and 2 bathroom, it was clean and spacious and suited our night stay in the city. Kitchen did not have enough plates and cutlery for number it should sleep, Also to note there is a flight of stairs once you enter apartment to get to kitchen and bedrooms. Location is very good opposite aquarium and tram stop outside front of building.

« Great location and large room »

I found an online special for these apartments, which made the price even more reasonable for one night's accommodation. I was welcomed in a lovely manner at reception and had to walk around the corner to find the other building containing my apartment. The only downside was catching the small lift up that smelt of curry. The apartments appear to be an old office block that has been converted and my 1 bedroom apartment was extremely roomy, with massive windows and a bathroom that worked but could probably do with a renovation. All in all I was extremely pleased with this place and am glad to have found this secret accommodation in a great part of Melbourne, close to the Yarra and Crown.

    4
    « Good Location »

We had two apartments for two nights whilst driving from Mildura to Moe and wanted to have a look around the city. The accommodation was much better than expected at a reasonable price. Good location for the tram and access to the city. Yes, it was slightly noisy but your on a main road in the city. Caused us no problems. Staff very helpful and the apartment clean with all you would need for the stay. Would we return if we came his way again? - Yes.

« Great Room but VERY noisy! »

Room was fantastic. But since it is located around the corner from King St, it is very noisy right through the night till early morning! Everything in the room was clean and very tidy. Would be a great hotel if it was situated somewhere else!

    4
    « Good position »

I went there for a conference and the position is perfect. The apartment is spacious and everything was good except the carpet definitely was a bit tired. Huge storage room, the linen and towels were top class and the reception was very welcoming and helpful- and you can open the windows! Yay!

    3
    « Close to function »

We stayed here purely for location. Room was $180 which maybe was a little over priced. Cheap toiletries which you couldn't use as dispensers did not work. Shower had mould on floor and walls. Bed was a king (2 ziplocked singles) but both beds were at different heights. No compendium or avenue to leave feedback. Toilet cistern ran on and off throughout the night. Room was very noisy from street. Property obviously crying out for a refurb.

    3
    « Close to Crown »

We booked a room directly with the hotel over the phone and when we arrived apparently we didn't have a booking due to our card declining for some reason. We weren't informed of this but luckily they still had the room type we wanted available. It was spacious and close to Crown. The room was a bit run down, bathroom fan very loud and stains on the carpet but overall good for a quick stay and good views. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment with a view of the bay, river and city.

    « TERRIBLE »

Nothing good to say about our dingy dark outdated dirty unsafe room. Will never ever be back. Not much use management saying we were unaware of any issues until we were checking out. These issues should not have existed in the first place.

« Good for a family night in the city »

Was a great place for our family to stay a night in the city with full kitchen facilities and laundry, reasonable price and clean. Location was perfect as we were going to AAMI PARK and the tram was just up the road.

    « Excellent family accommodation »

These apartments, with full kitchens and laundry facilities, are not new but they are roomy! We booked 2 1-bedroom apartments and 1 2-bedroom apartment for the whole family, and were delighted to find that we could block the 2br and one of the 1br apartments off by a door in the hall, allowing us to keep the apartment doors open - great for putting tired children to bed and allowing us to congregate in the next room. comfortable beds, great view and so close to the Aquarium, Crown and a tram to Harbour town for shopping and mini golf. Helpful staff regarding the limited onsite parking. Nice to have opening windows!

« Fantastic stay, fantastic staff, great location. »

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment for one night and were happily surprised to have a fantastic rooftop outdoor area with amazing views of the Yarra River, Crown Casino, and the city. The apartment was clean and tidy with everything you could want. The kitchen was well appointed. The beds were comfortable although I wasn't a fan of the pillows. The unit was very spacious. Parking is available onsite. The building is right across the road from the aquarium and a few short minutes walk to the Casino. The tram is pretty much right on the main street. We walked around the area late at night and didn't feel uncomfortable. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful and they certainly contributed to our stay being as great as it was. Special thanks to Steven and Vanessa. Steven steered us in the right direction for breakfast and recommended another restaurant to us as well. We would certainly stay here again and we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Best Western Riverside Apartments.

« Make sure you know which apartments you are booking! »

I thought we were staying in a 1 bedroom apartment at 474 Flinders St but that definitely was not the case. I booked through Booking.com and it was not clear that we were staying in a 1 bedroom annex apartment which is on Flinders Lane! It was super noisey, the lift and foyer area is dodgey and when we went out for breakfast the next morning someone had spewed all over the footpath near the door. It is around the corner from a mens club and other club behind it down Highlander Lane and the noise level was high all night long. On Sunday morning I was looking forward to peace and quiet but the street sweeper started early and the noise went on from there. The size of the apartment was good but parts could do with a bit of updating like the kitchen etc. I don,t think it was worth the $170.00 per night and wont be staying again unless in the building that faces out onto Flinders Street and the foyer in Highlander Lane.

« Location good service terrible. »

Stayed for 8 days. First night checking in Sunday 31st July service was helpful and pleasant. My husband had a conference at the convention centre so chose this hotel for its location. We stayed in the annex 1 bedroom apartments. Accepted that location mean lots of street noise at night. The hot water ran out more than 4 different times in the morning. When bringing it to their attention their replies were " did you have hour long showers? " " how long did you wait between showers?". Aircon and fridge were also noisy. The lifts actually failed to work and the service when asking in the morning if there were stairs to use was rude. Wouldn't recommend this for customer service however the house keeping were very pleasant and efficient well done to them!

    « Enjoy Your Stay »

Based at the slightly rougher end of the CBD, this hotel is good value for the money, its size and location. We had a one bedroom apartment with views from the 16th floor and stayed for six days. The room was warm, comfortable and high enough to get away from the street noise below. From the hotel we could easily walk to the shopping areas of the CBD and across the river to the beautiful south bank. It was also easy to catch nearby trams to all our desired city destinations, including Victoria Market. The reception staff were very helpful and always willing with advice and directions. Minor drawbacks: the low water pressure in the shower and the house staff sometimes forgot to replaces towelling and didn't vacuum. But overall we really enjoyed our stay.

« Good Location, good service »

I stayed here for hour nights while attending a conference. The location was good but with that came the noise of garbage trucks at all hours of the morning. Not the Best Westerns fault and I didn't complain at the time as it wasn't that huge of a deal to me but something to keep in mind, the annex apartments are on Flinders Lane so keep that in mind. The staff were nice and the rooms were pretty clean however take your own toiletries!! There are shampoo, conditioner and shower gel dispensers in the shower but the conditioner had what looked kind of like black...maybe mould in it, they also didn't work. My apartment was the same as my work colleagues across the hall however she had new carpet where as mine was heavy duty (reminded me of school) and its amazing what a difference it made to the look of the room. It wasn't anything flash but it did the job just take your own toiletries and if you;re worried about noise ask for an apartment that is quieter or book somewhere else. Also the wifi didnt work for me. It connected but I couldnt use it.

« Comfortable Apartment for a weekend escape. »

We had a 1 bedroom apartment in their 2nd building around the corner. It was roomy and comfortable except for the Daikin Air con which was a bit dodgy (appeared to need a good clean and service) Staff were generally friendly and helpful and the room was serviced every day of our 4 day stay. Good location opposite the Melbourne Aquarium with a tram stop right outside. Reasonable tariff as well. Bed and pillows were pretty comfortable and we found the location fairly quiet. Probably the only other negative to stop 5 stars was the fact that when we left our bags for safe storage when we arrived on the first day they were not that secure as other guests can access them along with their own without supervision.

« 16 th floor apartment - all rooms viewed a wall..... very disappointing »

Arrived at level 16 at the booked 2 bedroom apartment, to see a wall facing us as the view from each bedroom and lounge room.We queried and were advised no other rooms available so could not be re located. We were extremely disappointed with "view" from apartment as best western riverside apartments name, would suggest some view of river ....but not even a view of the street from the 16th floor. Left the curtains closed for our stay. Rooms were however clean and kitchen facilities were functional and concierge desk staff helpful.

« Nice rooms, but a bit noisy in the morning »

Lovely hotel with friendly check-in staff and we were upgraded to a suite on the 16th floor (it was my birthday) without asking. Loads of room in the living areas & kitchen, although the bedroom was still a bit tight to move around the bed. The door in the second bedroom could not close because it hit the bed. It wasn't an issue for us as we didn't use that room. Internet worked well. There was a fair bit of noise from the trains and trams first thing in the morning that the double galzing in the living areas did not reduce. On the plus side the room did overlook the Yarra and Southbank area and was lovely in the evening. Very helpful front desk staff. If I was to stay and was a light sleeper, I would ask for a room that did not overlook the street.

    « Convenient and spacious »

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for a night while in Melbourne for an event at the Exhibition Centre. Excellent location with the Casino and Exhibition Centre within easy walking distance. i spent 3 days trip with my brother in Australia. It left a sweet memories in my mind. I think i would spend my annual leave to be here again. ok, Let's come back to the point. this apartment hotel is fine. no much noises, no bad smells, hot water, polite services, etc. it's convenient to catch the city trains. and what's more, the price is not too high.it's ok for me.

    « Great Location - Poor Service »

Don't use this location if you intend to cook! I booked this apartment with the intention of cooking...the rangehood was faulty and on reporting to the reception was told please don't use it and please don't cook! I was not offered a room change or a discount. So the kitchen was useless the food bought a waste of money and we had to eat out anyway. The beds were comfy. That was the only plus this place had going for it. I will not be back :( Shame that customer service just was not high on their priority list.

After reading some not so flattering comments was a little reluctant to stay in this property. Once we opened the day I couldn't understand what anybody would be complaining about. Check in and out easy. Would recommend.

    « Uncomfortable »

Split beds are never comfy, noisy garbage contractor 2 nights in a row decided to compact his load outside my window, decor a bit tired, soap and shampoo dispensers did not work (bought my own later). Didn't enjoy my 4 night stay, but was convenient to Conference Centre.

    « Great »

My sister and I stayed here the 7th and 9th May 2016. The reception staff were incredibly helpful with allowing us to store our bags there prior to check-in whilst we went and explored the city. The location of the hotel was very convenient being directly across from the tram stop which links to Flinders Street Station very easily. The room was huge and very well maintained and clean on both check-ins. Will say- the balcony window in our room was probably due for a wipe down. Aside from that, we loved our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay again or recommend it :)

    « Cheap and.....cheap »

We booked here for one night due to the location & low price (5 min walk to Crown). We weren't expecting fancy but we were expecting clean and were disappointed. We got and old ripped couch, lumpy bed & dirty shower. All hotels provide basics such as soap, shampoo & conditioner and this one was is no exception, with dispensers located on the shower wall which would have been great had they WORKED! No amount of pumping yielded soap and we resorted to taking the lid off & pouring out, that worked well for all but the conditioner which had to be gouged out with fingers....a trick which all guests had done judging by the mould & finger marks already inside! Gross and unhygienic. I won't go into the noise from King St nightclubs through paper thin glass until early hours because we should've thought of that when booking. No matter as were NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN!

    « Cosy & Comfortable »

We are a family with two young children. Stayed here on a sightseeing trip to Melbourne. The apartments are nice and comfortable. Fittings and fixtures were of excellent quality. Sad that our apartment did not have river view - those cost extra but would be worth the price in my opinion. The location is decent - right next to a tram stop and at the river front.

« Convenient location and friendly staff »

We stayed here quite recently in the 1 bedroom annexe apartment (Highlander lane) with 2 Adults and 1 child and found it to be a really convenient location with having the city circle tram directly opposite. It's also really close to the Aquarium and Crown Casino. The staff were really friendly upon arrival and even let us check in early (we arrived just after 11am), the apartment was pleasantly spacious and having the additional bed positioned conveniently in the corner opposite the fully equipped kitchen was ideal. I also was impressed with having a washer and dryer in the bathroom really handy. If you don't want to leave your room there is a really reasonably priced in room menu. Definitely would recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again!

    « Terrific view but »

This was our 2nd stay at the Riverside Apartments. I has been a year between visits. The free team is right out the front and they parking is on site. We did upgrade to a premier apartment this time. Last time, we loved the Riverside. This time I was disappointed. The noise from outside was really loud making it hard to sleep. The full kitchen only had 1 blunt knife and out of the 5 spoons, 3 were soup spoons. Room was not cleaned thoroughly as there were Doritos under the tv unit and wet toothpaste splatter under the supply of toiletries. Also, only stocked decaffinated coffee!! Just be careful if you decide to cook as the smoke detectors are extremely sensitive. We will find somewhere else to stay next time as the no so good has out weighed the good.

    « Not a four star rating »

We were looking forward to staying in our 4 star apartment for our one night stay in Melbourne as a family. As soon as we opened our door to the apartment we were all let down with the outdated, tired looking decor. Old furnishings. Old furniture. Definitely not the 4 star quality we were expecting. The location was very central. Our apartment did have a river view. Issues we had were: * WIFI connection was poor and unusable * Foxtel as advertised on their website DID NOT exist on the small, outdated TV * The mattress on the single bed in the living area was so damaged that we had to prop up the mattress between the base to avoid on of the kids simply rolling straight out. * Having a shower flooded the bathroom floor * The double bed bedspread was clearly dirty with white crusty marks :( and hair over the blanket. * The 'balcony' looked so unsafe and was very dodgy looking * The 'test n tag's were over 2 years expired * The rug in the lounge room needed to be thrown out, was so worn and unclean looking. * Unfortunately, the list goes on. Overall, this room was not of a 4 star quality. We were very disappointed to pay $365 for such an outdated, dirty looking apartment which probably suits a bucks night or boys night away. No offense to bucks or boys ! Upon checking out, we did mention a couple of our issues and was given the $35 parking for no charge. We won't be back. In fact, there was tears shed over the disappointment in the accommodation.

« Massive One Bedroom but need a big renovation »

I stayed here during Australian Open in January and the price was just too good for such busy time in Melbourne. The room was very spacious with kitchen and large fridge. The furniture in the room are a bit dated but they are in ok conditions. Bathroom which was in the bedroom was very small and there was some funny smell. Location was good but it is not right in the heart of CBD. I could hear noises from the underground night club nearby so make sure you request the room away from that side of the building. Overall stay was ok and good value for the money spent.

    « A central place to stay »

We recently spent the night in the Best Western on Flinders St for a girls weekend in the city. First of all the location is perfect for being close to the main shopping/tourist area of Melbourne and also perfect for utilising Melbourne's public transport system. Our room was clean and comfortable with a lovely lounge room for us to sit cosily in. Not one bad thing to say!

    2
« Not all rooms have a view »

Don't be deceived by the view..Our room had a large window overlooking a concrete wall, very claustrophobic and poor lighting, absolutely no view. a very strange man " minding" the foyer area was so nosey with all the guests interrogating them as to where they were going and why they were there. I even got told off by him waiting in the foyer for holding a takeaway cup of coffee!.. told me I couldn't drink it there!.while waiting for my friend to arrive. won't be recommending these apartments to friends.

« Great place to stay »

Just stayed here for four days. Apartment was really spacious, everything you could ask for. Tea, coffee, sugar, and milk, plenty of items such as mugs, cups, glasses etc bedrooms are spacious and with plenty of pillows which is always a bonus. Bathroom was great with complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner plus plenty of flannels and towels. All in all my husband and I were impressed spotlessly clean, comfortable with everything you need for self catering accommodation, plus cheerful staff on reception. Plus the free tram stop is in front of the building which takes you into the heart of all the attractions you may want to visit.

    4
    « Comfortable and Central »

I managed to get a great deal on line for a one bedroom apartment as I was in Melbourne for a few days to attend a conference. I managed to get an upgrade to a two bedroom that was a bit wasted as I was travelling alone. The apartment was large and a bit dated but great value. The location is very central to the Crown, Convention Centre, Trams, Flinders and Southern Cross Stations. There was plenty of tasty eats close by as well.

« Good size & location but not the cleanest »

Originally stayed here with our 2 teens about 5 years ago and decided to give it another go when just my husband and I returned this time, as we loved the location on the river and near Crown and the size of the apartment, especially when staying for 4 or 5 nights. Last year we stayed in an apartment right in town and it was tiny. So this place ticks all the boxes but unfortunately it wasn't very clean this time. The carpet in the bedroom clearly hadn't been vacuumed before we checked in and the carpet had a lot of questionable stains and spills on it particularly in the bedroom but also in the lounge room. The windowsill in the bedroom was so thick with dust we were able to write in it. I did mention our concerns to Reception and the carpet was vacuumed the next day but the window sill never did get cleaned. The daily service was also a bit hit and miss. Funnily enough every time we went in and out of the apartment we always saw the cleaner on her phone by the lifts, so much so it became a standing joke, which probably explains the decline in cleanliness!

    « Pre Cruise Accomodation »

A great 2 room apartment, nicely decorated, with a kitchen lounge area and a decent size television. Excellent position in the City, but there was no Riverview! We were in the Annexe building. The hosts were very obliging and the gentleman took my suitcase for me.

« Excellent central position to stay.... »

We wanted to stay somewhere that was easy walking to Spencer Street Station, The Casino, walking distance to the CBD, waling distance to trams to take us in different directions in Melbourne. As a tourist the perfect very reasonably price was the Best Western Riverside Apartments. Our stay was in the Annex section which was not bad at all, you actually walked a couple of meters and around the corner for these apartments... The apartment was clean and very spacious comprising of a kitchenette, lounge, bedroom and bathroom... The only downfall is that being right in the city you have traffic noise early in the morning....

« Large living room, friendly staff »

Stayed 3 nights in a large 1 bedroom apartment in main building. Was at back of building and view not great but room comfortable and lounge spacious. Bedroom was small and double bed not large. Some cleaning pre arrival could have been better and also found no balcony and no Foxtel despite being advertised. Otherwise good apartment with plenty of relaxation space.

« one nights accommodation before travelling »

room was spacious but being on the first floor and on a busy street it was very noisy in the early hours of the morning not recommended if you wish to sleep in. Overall we had a good experience and the service was good

    « BW Melbourne »

Hotel priced very well and handy position as well. Close to public transport and shops in Melbourne. Room was very quite and located near a number of cafe's for breakfast and dinner. Also gave an over 55 discount as well, even without a seniors card.

    4
« Great location and amenity but don't be fooled by the river view..... »

We booked 2 nights and had to move in the middle! What a drag! THEN the second room was not ready so we were without a room in a time of the day we needed to work! The first room was hailed as a river view. This really should have been called a glimpse. So if you are paying extra for a river view make sure it's a front room not side. If you are moved in to the 'annex' make sure you get a heavy discount as these room a very inferior to the actual hotel.

    « Good location »

Staff at check in were very friendly. We were able to leave our bag in the cupboard while we spent the days with visitors. Very quiet location and great for where we wanted to go. Comfy bed. Apartment spacious and clean. Loads of cafes and bars close by.

« Okay given Australian open was on »

Given the Australian Open was taking place, accommodation in Melbourne was in demand, quick business trip and thought I would try the Best Western. Could do with an upgrade however the room was clean with separate lounge with kitchen. Would suit families as plenty of room.

« excelent place to stay for Melbourne city »

we had a very good clean bright and very comfortable appartment , not just a room but large lounge , kitchen separate bedroom and bathroom , all spotlessly clean . we stayed in Riverside appartments in a side street , dont be put off by the outside , some great cafes and bars on the doorstep for a good cheap breakfast , tram stop right outside the cafe KING ST which was free to travel right round the city All in all a very good choice , would go back

« Great Location for a City Stay »

This is a well appointed apartment hotel located across Flinders St from the Melbourne Aquarium and a short walk from the Crown Casino. The staff were helpful & friendly. The beds were very comfortable and our two bedroom apartment was clean and spacious. There is a lovely little deli/cafe in the lane next door to the hotel that serves great breakfasts and a pub across the lane - not noisy though.

« Spacious apartment close to everything »

Very spacious two bedroom apartment close to the Aquarium, Southbank and Crown. This apartment was well priced and clean. It was showing some sides of wear and tear but overall we were very happy considering the price. Both bedrooms had king beds so great for friends or family to share.

    3
« Good size and ok stay »

We were happy with the location and size of the place however i thought it would be a bit nicer. There were dirty utensils. The shower had mould. All the light switches were coming out weirdly and very dodgy. The hallway outside stunk and made me feel sick as did the elevator coming in. The price i got was pretty good we were there for the tennis so it was peak time Staff were very friendly. I thought overall it was satisfactory having good and bad points but worked for our 3 night visit just needs some freshening up and better attention to detail.

    « Lin »

The apartment was small but perfectly formed, clean and reasonably priced considering it was so central to everything. The bus station, trains, trams, tennis centre, MCG, the Yarra, Southbank and the casino were all within walking distance. Would definitely recommend this venue

« The view was the only good thing about it. »

When we walked into the top floor suite the view was great but it went downhill from there. The toilet was dirty with urine splatters all over the seat. There was hair all over the bathroom and the shower still had the soap spots on the clear glass screan and door. The kitchen wasnt any better. The mugss in the cupboard were upstde down and stuck to the shelf, suggesting they had only been rinsed and put back in the cupboard. There was food and drink dribbles down the cabinets in the kitchen and the floor had pieces of cardboard and assorted food scraps and crumbs in the corners of the floor. I rang reception and in the end got offerred a bottle of wine or beer! In the end we were refunded the cost of parking. Thats it..$35 for a dirty room is not my idea of a fair deal. The queen size beds are really two singles pushed together with different heights which always drift apart when slept on making it very uncomfortable. The air conditioning was loud and didn't work properly.

    « So disappointed »

We booked, thinking that it would be a nice place to stay to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel is anything but nice. You are immediately greeted by a funky smell in the lift foyer (where our room was located) and the lobby. The room was hot, noisy (above all the clubs in King St and did not quieten until 4am) with a tiny bathroom. The bathroom had mould in it, particularly the shower and the bottom seal was missing so water went all over the floor when my husband had a shower. We were so disappointed. Seek somewhere else for a more pleasant stay. The name River View was so inappropriate as our only view was of Flinders Lane. I don't think any of the rooms has a river view.

    « A Little Gem »

We were two families travelling together and stayed two nights. Very hard to find accommodation in Melbourne for two families to stay together comfortably without having to get separate rooms. This was perfect for us! We stayed in the top floor three bedroom apartment and it was amazing! Complete with our own rooftop grassed terrace area - perfect to relax and unwind after a big day in the city, and for the kids to have a run. (Terrace is fully enclosed). Everything was clean and the facilities in the apartment were great. Easy walking distance to most things in the city, or is also just near the free tram zone. We avoided the King St area at night time - lots of clubs and 'undesirables' hanging around there. Otherwise, it's in a great spot. Staff were all so friendly and more than helpful. Building was secure and required key entry after a certain time at night. We'll definitely be back!

« Lack of investment in this hotel... »

*Air conditioner dripped large amounts of water out of it (reported it at checkout, as I was only staying one night I didn't call up at 10pm when I discovered it, if I was staying more than 1 night I would have called at 10pm requesting a change of room). *Fridge was turned off upon arrival, was very noisy for some time whilst it was cooling down (reported to reception upon checkout). *When booking/on website states hotel has free wifi. Discover this is only 100mb trial and you are required to pay beyond this. This is false advertising. 100mb is nothing these days and was used up with several minutes of social media. *TV in rooms are still using analogue technology very poor picture quality. Why not able to receive Digital TV broadcasts? Was only able to receive less than half the free to air DTV channels and the channel numbers don't match up to the guide. This was potentially my worst ever hotel experience and I cannot believe how many issues there were for a Melbourne CBD hotel.

« BED BUGS AND DIRTY STAY AWAY »

My daughter recently stayed at this hotel with a group of her friends. She had a terrible experience staying there. The day they arrived the aircon turned on and blew dust all over the bedroom. The staff were nothing but unhelpful telling the girls the cleaners cannot come until the next day. The fridge was also broken, the girls asked the staff to see if they could fix it and they said nothing could be done so the food all got ruined. the wifi was also very poor. The worst part about the whole experience was she came home smothered in bed bug bites which caused extreme discomfort and now a few weeks later they are only just now starting to go away. The girls rang up the hotel to see what could be done. The hotel admitted to seeing the bugs in the bed and offered the girls a free night...... WHY ON EARTH WOULD THEY WANT TO STAY THERE AGAIN!? STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL MY DAUGHTERS EXPERIENCE WAS NOTHING LESS THEN TERRIBLE

    « convenient and affordable »

We stayed here for a convention and shared the room with another mum and daughter. It was a little older in style but suitable for us. I would stay here again. the tram stop is right outside the lane way so very easy to get around.

    « filthy »

Very disappointing entrance, filthy, no attempt to clean the foyer of the apartments. The toilet seat had dark yellow urine splashed on it (when I arrived so I had to clean it, no cleaners available on weekends!) and the bathroom floor had not seen a mop. Pubic hairs on the bathroom pedal bin. Gross! And no offer of a cancellation possible. Stay well away!

    3
« Good location but a bit tired »

Stayed in a 2 bedroom top floor apartment overlooking the Yarra with my 3 daughters this weekend. The apartment was roomy but a bit jaded - mould in the bathroom and just needing a bit of a pick up. The staff were helpful but not overly so. Location directly opposite the aquarium is great.

    2
« Okay; Good location if you want to be close Crown Casino, Melb Aquarium and MCEC »

At first the location seemed ideal as we were attending a weekend dance competition at MCEC (Melb Convention and Entertainment Centre) easy access on trams etc. But my daughter and I were given rooms in their annex which is very close to King Street end of Flinders Lane and it was non-stop noise (music, men yelling and police sirens! at 4am) on Saturday night. Not ideal for us as we had to be at MCEC by 6am (dressed, hair & makeup done). Also that end of King Street there are lots of men's clubs etc. Our apartment was very dated and not much in the way of views. The bathroom was okay, although clean, looked like it needed a good scrub

    4
    « Excellent accommodation »

Stayed here for one night to meet up with old friends before heading out to the Yarra Valley. Very helpful Reception staff. Surprised (and delighted) to have been allocated a 3 bedroomed unit on 17th floor. Although no views, it was good to be able to spread out a little after a week of standard motel/hotel rooms. Excellent facilities (other than a very wonky looking wardrobe in the mezzanine area). Thought it was good value. Location a bit removed from restaurants but still a very good place to stay.

    3
    « okay »

Stayed in annex room. 2 room with kitchenett. Was plenty big for 1 or 2 people. Bathroom was bit small. Great location. Easy access to everything. 3 Negative things that will stop from staying here again. If they fix I'd stay in heartbeat. 1 - mold in shower. This is because not full cleaning everyday, just towel service. If they do a good scrubbing between guests to prevent would be much better. 2 - pump action shampoo/conditioner crap. Was CRAP. Didn't work and just horrible. I'd be better not to offer toiletries at all. 3 - WORSE mattress every. Cheap dorm room mattress are better. I could feel every spring .

    4
« Good location and friendly staff »

We were pleasantly surprised by our stay in these apartments, but it not quite perfect otherwise I might have given it a rating of 5. The entry is down a lane way, which is not an issue to me personally, but there is a bar just across from the entry. I always associate bars/pubs with noise so I always start with a bit of prejudice. The reception staff were delightful, and we had interaction with three different staff members during our stay, and none of them disappointed. The room was on the 17th floor, and the room was VERY spacious. One bed room with a king size bed (2 singles joined) a kitchen, a dining area and a lounge area. The laundry was in the bathroom which had a bath. It would have been at least 60m2 so that is a fair size. It is air-conditioned, but this is where it lost a point. It is VERY noisy. It cools well, but we had to turn it off just to sleep, which then lead to the other problem. The noise from the bar down in the lane way could be heard when we opened the windows. The bed was a little hard for out liking, but for the tariff you cannot expect a super plush bed, so it was acceptable. All of the other facilities seemed to work fine, although the wi-fi signal was a little weak, and took several attempts to connect. Location wise, it was perfect for us. You are a 5 minute walk to Southern Cross station, 10 minutes to Flinders Street Station, the tram stop outside the apartments can take you to Docklands and the outlet stores or down to Flinders Station in the free tram zone, so handy if you prefer not to walk. The tram to South Melbourne markets and St Kilda are also just 2 blocks away, and the casino and the Southbank just a short stroll across the river. So, would we come again. Yes (but not during mid summer because of the noisy air-conditioning).

    5
    « Great location »

Very comfortable and spacious apartment. Had everything we needed. Location was across from Aquarium and the Yarra River - bridge over to Crown Complex and short walking distance to DFO South Wharf and restaurants. In fact easy walking or tramming distance to everywhere. Added bonus of daily room service so always came back from a long day out to a made bed. 2BR unit had two large bedrooms, open planned lounge, dining and kitchen area with all amenities you need, including washer and dryer. Couldn't have been happier.

    3
    « Annex building »

We stayed in the annex building as we just wanted somewhere close to crown and central to stay for one night. It was alright, spacious enough. It had a small lounge and a two king singles put together to make a bed... Would've liked an actual bed. Staff at reception were nice, however when I called to confirm booking and ask questions, they weren't very nice at all. Quite rude. Television had crappy reception, but did work. What was weird was that a channel showed the camera of downstairs... The whole place had a funky smell. Best described by my partner as 'Jack Daniels and moss'. Not nice. Benches had stains and the overall cleanliness wasn't nice. The floor in the bathroom hadn't been mopped properly. If you want a room just to stay in, then it's great. But hanging around in it, wanting cleanliness isn't great, at least for the room I was in. It is important to remember that this is the annex building and obviously doesn't get much TLC. Oh and in my room, the fridge was incredibly loud, and also remember you are near nightclubs so it is loud!

    5
« Excellent inner city accommodation »

For our one night sty we chose not to use the annex based on Tripadvisor reports, but rather the multi-story structure. We asked for a high level to avoid noise and found on arrival we were on the 16th floor. Our accommodation was a surprise....2 bedrooms with King and Queen size beds, spacious lounge and dining area, and a fullsized kitchen and laundry. The tariff of $165 for a week night was very reasonable. There was no view (at all) from the windows but they could be opened for fresh air. Reception staff quite friendly and helpful. It goes without saying the suite was immaculate and bed comfortable. Location is good - if you are arriving by car then the entrance in Highlander Lane is convenient, there is a tramstop just outside on Flinders street, or it is an easy short walk to Southern Cross railway station..

« annex room review at riverside apartments »

The annex are budget rooms, they have everything you need and are clean and close to crown casino etc. Negatives very noisy around the corner from bar20 and several strip clubs on the weekends with a few drunk revellers outside, pretty ordinary tv reception in the room i had. I stayed for a sporting event so the room was just to eat and rest basically, if you need quiet to work or rest go for the other riverside rooms they are around the corner away from the nightclubs.

« Value for money, spacious accomodation »

The BW main entrance is actually located on a side street. Just keep a look out for the main street signage above your head and you'll find it. Location is strategic, the aquarium and casino are just a stone's throw. Plus Spencer St station and Flinder's St station are a 10 minute walk away. DFO is also within walking distance for shopperholics. There's a new factory outlet mall next to Spencer St station too. Forget Harbour Town, the factory mall is more dead than alive. Took the 1 bedroom apartments which is on an annex behind. Very spacious too with kitchenette and fridge. Coles is at Specer St Station (supermarket) The free city tram stops on the main street so really easy to move around the city.

« Great price great location »

Studio apartment with full kitchen. tv in lounge and bedroom. private, safe entrance. around the corner from the aquarium and just off the city circle tram line. walking distance to the Bourke/St mall and a trot over the bridge to the Casino. Very competitive price. Clean and modern

« Staff are the highlight! »

Good apartments in a good spot...directly opposite Melb Aquarium was very handy and for getting on and off Southeastern freeway. Only a short walk to Southern Cross Station, southbank and Fed Square. Great alternative for families rather than a hotel room....spacious lounge, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Recommended.....though new carpet was needed in my apartment as there were quite a few stains and unprofessional parch up jobs here and there. Otherwise clean and furniture comfy.

« Great location and lovely staff! »

The staff were fantastic. The lady who greeted us was so lovely and the gentleman when we checked out again was just great. The appartment itself was larger then I had expected for the price I paid and location was just perfect for us. The room was a tad noisey but thats just what happens when you stay in the city! Will probably stay again, told I'll get a discount next time... great little bonus!

« Great staff and location, noisy and a bit grubby »

The front of house staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming and thoughtful. The room which is around the corner (easy to find) had all the amenities you would need (kitchen, dishwasher, laundry, two TVs, iron) but it wasn't very clean. There was hair and crumbs on the couch and the bathroom could use a dose of bleach. The bed was very clean however although a bit cold without the extra blanket unless you can sleep with the air-con going. Noise from the street kept me awake early in the morning.

    5
« Cosy Apartment close to everything »

Behind that closed door!!, Don't you wonder what a place might be like, especially when it is in an older part of a city. Well this place is one full of surprises, right from when we checked in and were given lots of helpful advice on where to go and what was on etc. Even advised where to avoid at night. Room was very nice with all modern amenities and plenty of room for my wife and I. Being in Flinders St we were surrounded by cafes and restaurants and only a 10 minutes walk from the South Bank dining area on the Yarra River as well as 5 more minutes walk to the Casino and all the Restaurants to choose from in that area.

« If the price is right »

I stayed in a two bedroom apartment 1515 on the 15th floor. This hotel is a little bit hard to find, because it is not actually on Flinders Street, but down a lane just off it. This hotel is quite well located, not far from the casino, Southbank, Etihad Stadium and Federation Square. Check in was fast and simple, not too sure about the price, it was during the footy finals. The apartment was large with two reasonable size bedrooms and one bathroom. The beds were comfy with nice clean crisp sheets and large bath towels. One thing I don't normally like about apartments are they are normally not that clean, but this one was. I never found any problems with the noise as some people have stated, my apartment was away from Flinders Street. If the price was right I would stay here again.
