Best Western Plus Travel Inn Hotel

We have stayed before and will again. It is by far the best place to stay when in Melbourne, we are in our 60s but we walked everywhere! Princess Theatre, CBD, Victoria Markets and the Museum are all nice easy walks. The secure car park is a bonus and all the staff are friendly.

The room was lovely and clean. So quiet and peaceful. Very short walk to Lygon St for dinner. Breakfast at the hotel was perfect. Will definitely be back. Staff were so friendly and accomodating. Car parking undercover and vehicle secure, off street.

Good choice for a short stay. Small room but all the necessary facilities. Comfortable beds. Easily accessible parking included in cost. Pleasant staff. Only problem was room had not been properly cleaned.

I have just left the hotel and felt compelled to write a review. Such a clean, comfortable hotel with FREE parking. Carlton is a great location for eating out, shopping and bars. You can also walk into the city. My room was on the ground floor and had everything I needed for my one night stay at a reasonable price. Staff were obviously busy but efficient and friendly.

This hotel is in a great location within minutes (or seconds) to Lygon Street. The accommodation is basic but very clean. Pool was quite chilly. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay again.

I always stay at the Best Western Plus Travel Inn when I visit Melbourne. Within close walking distance of iconic Lygon Street, it always delivers on comfort, cleanliness and value for money. The staff are wonderful and go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Can't wait for my next visit.

The Best Western Plus Travel Inn is centrally located in Carlton right near Lygon street. Super close to lots of great places to eat, the Melbourne Museum and Royal Exhibition Building and surrounding gardens. It's also close to the CBD. Rooms are well appointed, neat, and clean. Staff are friendly. Small outdoor pool great for a cool down on a hot day.

Great location with lots of food options walking distance from the hotel. We parked our car at the hotel and basically just walked to Carlton Park, Fitzroy Park, City Center, Chinatown, and Victoria Market.

Excellent location walking distance to trams, Lygon St and the city. Reception were efficient, friendly and happy to help. Rooms were very clean, bed was unbelievably comfortable I want to buy one. Very quiet rooms. Highly recommend and I would not hesitate in staying again.

This has to be the best value when you consider the location to the city and Lygon street. Restaurants round the corner, tram a short walk and still quiet location. With the good weather you can easily walk into the city.

We have stayed numerous times and always happy. Staff are courteous and helpful. We usually encounter Shannon at reception and he is great to deal with. Rooms are comfortable and cleanliness always high.

We had previously booked another hotel which was disgusting and their website needs updating, checked out and checked into the Best Western. Room, staff and facilities were wonderful. Definitely recommend this hotel. Will definitely be using this hotel again.

The hotel is conveniently located near one of melbournes premier food locations Lygon street. The two rooms we had on the ground floor were clean and quiet . The staff were always very helpful and pleasant. Overall I think the hotel represents good value for money

Honestly we loved our stay at the hotel ! It's so clean and smells amazing and the staff are the best hotel staff I've seen in a while ! We had originally booked with a different hotel in Melbourne for our stay ! But we arrived and was horrified by the state of the rooms ! I then found this hotel online and I'm glad I did they helped us find a room and they were so accommodating ! The cleaners are so amazing they clean the room everyday when you leave !

We wanted something with parking and in walking distance to City and Lygon st and this was spot on. Staff where friendly and helpful. Room was a little tired but clean. Was a little odd having a high window that you couldn't look out of but we weren't there to spend time in the room so didn't faze us as there was still light coming into the room.

Great motel, nice short stroll to enjoy Lygon St Resturants. Nice & clean, quiet rooms, super comfortable beds, Close to St Vincents Hospital, The Museum & Old Exhibition Building, Dental Hospital, and not far from city, short walk to the trams into the city. Only cost around $20 to get to Rod Laver

Travel Inn was in a great loaction with friendly helpful staff. The breakfast served in the restaurant was excellent. This motel is great value for money with easy access to the city and resttauratnts on Lygon St.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and it has always been good. It is very close to Lygon street so great meals are on offer. The hotel is within walking distance of the city but a tram stop is not far away as well.

This was the first time that I stayed here and it was amazing time at the hotel not only walking distance for food and other place to go too. The carpark a little tight when you drive a SUV and their was no good large space

Jetstar diverted midflight to Melbourne at 1am and left me here for the night. Bed uncomfortable, budget soaps etc. Noise coming from the house next to the room all night, overall this hotel is the worst I've stayed in and needs a renovation.

Bed was too hard, Air Conditioning unit was too loud to leave on & room was too stuffy & hot to leave Air Conditioning off. Shower built for very small people. Bathroom overall very small. Walls are very thin, we were disturbed with baby crying in next room, also being able to hear their conversations.

A very clean and spacious room, very friendly and knowledgeable staff and a fantastic location so close to the CBD, Lygon St and right across the road from Leonards Pizza Palace, The kitchen was not open for dinner as Covid was still playing its roll in hospitality.

I booked this hotel as a very last minute replacement for a noisy apartment on Gertrude st. I requested a quiet room and when there was a noisy neighbourhood bar event they moved me to a better room on the other side of the building. I felt comfortable here and would recommend staying here for anyone needing a convenient but quiet location.

Had a 3 night stay at Best Western Carlton, it's central to the City of Melbourne. There are many cafes just around the corner if you choose too. This hotel is clean and well appointed,the staff are extremely helpful. The hotel offers breakfast for an additional cost of $17 which is affordable. I enjoyed my stay of 3 nights and I will again stay at Best Western

A great locale abutting Lygon Street. Ticks all the boxes for quiet relaxation and quick access to anything in Melbourne that you need. Great staff from the start who are always ready to help. Though it's an old building, it is incredibly well-maintained, very neat and comfortable. And, you must have breakfast and be treated as pat of the family by Helen who is just awesome.

I have stayed at this accommodation many times over the years. I used to stay for work and find it safe and secure. Sadly since Best Western have taken over, some of the services are no longer available (eg room service & restaurants). Like many travelling alone or as a single adult with children, it is not always safe to wander unfamiliar surroundings to get food. There isn't a microwave in the room so no ability to heat a precooked meal. In regards to staff - they are friendly and so helpful, the rooms are spotless. The accommodation is excellent, it's just the lack of services that achieved a lower review

The hotel was conveniently located near the city with a tram stop reasonably close by. It is a little awkward to get to if you are not familiar with the local area/streets. The reception staff were very helpful

This place had the most amazing customer service. So helpful from check in, to end of the stay. I was really impressed with the food at breakfast. Was a tad apprehensive but our stay turned out well. Large well equipped room on the 3rd floor, small but practical bathroom. Room overlooked roofs of next door buildings and was very quiet. Bonus was that windows actually opened. Staff on front desk not very friendly but didn't have much to do with them luckily. Will stay again as so close to café/restaurants.

Read the fine print when booking, their was mould in the kettle in our room, staff weren't helpfull, if you dont mind a short walk to get some nice food. We were staying here do to proximity to hospital, however after we arrived we were informed that we should have call and told them this was the case. Considering most people pre book a hotel this was a disappointment

Booked by 'phone explaining that my wife had a disability and we needed a twin room with a walk-in shower. Upon arrival found that there were two flights of steps at the front entrance with no ramp. The only disabled access was via the underground carpark. The single lift from the carpark could only take a couple of people and their luggage and was annoyingly slow. Our twin room was on the small side. The shower was tiny; it was not walk-in, requiring my wife to step up onto a slippery fibre glass base. It was impossible for her to have a proper shower. The toilet was cramped and the washbasin ridiculously small with virtually no room for toiletries. We were not told when booking that the restaurant was not open for dinner and there was no room service. Reception staff were disinterested and perfunctory. The one positive was the helpful and considerate cleaning staff. I would suggest that anyone elderly, with a mobility issue or even young families with toddlers, avoid this hotel until they improve accessibility.

I love staying at the Travel Inn Carlton - the staff remember you, the rooms are more than adequate for a solo traveller (which I sometimes am) - a little more neat for a family, but completely find if you're out all day. And the place is conveniently located in Carlton and super clean. Just a lovely, old school motel. No whistles and bells but completely fabulous in my opinion.

Room and amenities very clean and tidy, staff at entry and cleaning ladies were very pleasant and were happy to help. Off street parking was a little tight, but better than parking on the street. Downside was pool not heated. Will still visit again.

Older but well refurbished hotel, in great central location close to University, shops & cafes in Carlton and walking distance or short tram trip to the CBD. Very clean rooms and on-site parking. No meals currently available (March 2022). Rooms facing inside to the pool are very quiet, but a bit darker than those facing the street.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel when we're in Melbourne to drop off our son to start his University and enjoyed our overall stay. The Hotel is very central and is in heart of all restaurants at Lygon St within 200m walk and also very close to Woolworths and Ezymart, if you need to buy anything that your forget to pack in your bag. The hotel offered us secured parking without any additional cost as we traveled interstate. The staffs are very polite and had no issues at all during check-in or check-out. We used online Hotel reservations via the Hotel website. The restaurant is closed for dinner, however offers breakfast (we didn't use it) We'll be back next time. The only drawback is noisy and extremely slow lift and would advise not to have a room next to it.

We arrived on Boxing day 2021 and at check in, we asked the reception if car parking was available. He said yes it is available to guests and it is underground. We had our car pick up the next day, so we took his word for it and checked in. However, the next night, when we brought our car, the reception (a different person from last night) said that car parking was not available and we would have to go for on street parking instead. We were perplexed because last night we were assured that car parking would be available to us. So, we were forced to find street parking. Luckily, next day was a public holiday, so we could keep our car without getting fined. Additionally, there was no housekeeping. There was a trolley at the front and we would have to take fresh towels or soap from there. Rooms were actually good. It was enough for us and well air conditioned. Comfortable beds as well. Superb location as well. Other than the parking issue, overall it was a good stay at the hotel

Value for money, brilliant location with a 2 min walk to lygon st, friendly and caring staff, clean facilities, quiet overnight. Exceeded our expectations and will be back. This hotel is in a great location close to Lyon St and a pleasant 15 minute walk to the City. It is close to parks and to Melbournes Major Hospital and Medical Precincts. The freeway systems into and out of Melbourne are also close.

This was lovely accommodation. There is a swimming pool and I would swim if I was younger. Our room was very clean and everything we needed. Parking was easy and we were able to leave our car on the day we booked out until we'd finished shopping. Thank you.

Stayed due to having to attend a nearby function. I initially called to ask a question and was offered a better price over the phone than the online price. Arriving, check in was fast and very friendly. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. The location is easy walking to all Carlton attractions. Onsite parking available at no cost.

Booked the spa suite to spend some 1-on-1 with the husband. The spa was only big enough for one, when filling it, the tap (which was clearly broken prior to our arrival - and the arrival of many others) fell straight into the tub. Went to grab some water to drink, no sink in the room, and met in the fridge with an empty tim tam wrapper and a chilled empty jug. No water. The tv wasn't even tuned - and when hubby did tune it, it got 1 station - channel 9. Horrible service. We left within 4hrs and I've asked for my money back. Never staying here again.

Best hotel experience for many years. Short walk to fabulous Lygon Street .most comfortable bed, like sleeping on a cloud. Only complaint was the lift was very slow, if this was changed, perfect in every way.

The Travel Inn Best Western in Carlton has been one of my favourite places to stay. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms always comfortable and very clean. It is just around the corner from Lygon Street making the location great for dining out when the Covid restrictions lift. It's a place I'd always come back to.

Caught a very cheap deal on an accommodation website and stayed for a night in the heart of Carlton. Parking underneath for a small fee but could've stayed on the street also. Nice pool area (way too cold in the middle of winter) but out in the open to access rooms. The room itself was immaculate, albeit compact, bed comfortable and bathroom clean. Limited room service available due to COVID-19 but you're 2 minutes away from great food anyways. Greeted with a smile and absolutely no trouble from the receptionist which set up the good experience. We would definitely stay here again.

It is located in the heart of city and you can walk down to the best of eating joints in the city. The staff is very courteous and helpful. Rooms and service was also very good. I would definitely recommend it to all.

you might be waiting forever for the lift to open, but that is something you can definitely remember and talk about if you are in the hotel. it is interesting about how it works. breakfast was good. not that i had the best of the best because i do not prefer continental, but they did give me egg white omelette every day like i wanted it. I only made the request on my first day. Room was big and facing the pool. though i never saw anyone use it nor did i find the time. the best part about it was that it had a walking distance from everything around and the area is just classic!

The Best Western Travel Inn on Drummond St, Carlton is not luxury accommodation but it is better than average, and given the location near to Lygon Street, and the relatively easy walk to & from the city it is hard to beat. A big plus is the off street parking which is undercover, secure, and easily accessible for those driving to Melbourne. The Hotel has a swimming pool, another plus, but, it was not functioning during our stay. It would have been nice to have a swim as it was a very hot January in Melbourne. The room though not huge was ample for a weeks stay, and was clean, fresh, light and fairly quiet. Breakfast is available for guests in the lounge, but... you may wish to rethink that if there are bus groups staying. We were relegated to the bar for breakfast during our stay when two bus tour groups were given complete priority in the dining lounge. Overall, we think it convenient.

Visit during australian open. Location not too bad. Only 4minutes walk to tram station which can connect you to CBD, flinders, melbourne park. Plenty of restaurants around hotel. Location very quite. Room was a good size and immaculately clean. Really good location close to Lygon Street and Brunswick Street. Pool looked nice although we didn't use it. Reception staff friendly and professional. Parking available under the hotel for $20/night.

WE came to stay for 3 nights. Parking was included, which was great. Room was great value. Was about 20 minutes walking to city centre, and only 5 minutes walk to Lygon street, where all the cafes were. We had a great time. Will come again.

The rooms are kept scrupulously clean. The bed is super comfortable. There are trams that provide easy access to the CBD. The next street is Lygon St, famous for a vast range of restaurants, mostly Italian.

Great for shopping and all the tests of Carlton and Lygon Street at your doorstep. Reception staff were lovely and very welcoming. Small but clean and tidy room just perfect for sleeping. Location location with Lygon St just around the corner and a comfortable place to stay with secure parking. The only minus is that some rooms can be a problem if you are tall and wish to have a sit on the toilet and the lift can be a slow journey but there are adequate stairs.The beds are big and comfortable.

I would encourage any traveller to stay there either for business or pleasure. Good value for money, good location, good food, good accommodation. We always stay there when going to Melbourne.. If you are not a good sleeper, ask for a room away from the main street which can become a bit noisy at night.

Stay here regularly for work. Rooms and hotel in general always neat and clean with comfy beds. Breakfast always delicious, with both continental and cooked options and staff always friendly. Great location being one street over from Lygon Stree eateries. Would stay here for business or leisure.

First the positives with this hotel, the staff were very nice as seems to be the norm in Australia. We really appreciated the under hotel parking lot and that we were allowed to park a few extra hours the day we checked out to explore the city on foot. What I was very surprised about was that this hotel did not have a single proper wheelchair accessible room with accessible bath. The staff provided what they called a shower chair but it was so tall it would have been very dangerous to use. We loved Australia and the Australian people but were also surprised at how far behind Melbourne is when it comes to providing disabled access with many restaurants and stores still not welcoming all. Great country with great people but on this one aspect there is room for improvement.

Hotel clean and neat, well maintained. Rooms well presented and had everything you would expect in a hotel room. Beds and pillows comfortable, towels soft and thick. Shower in my room was small but the main problem was water pressure and Lack of it. We stayed for three nights and had six rooms and only some had water pressure problems. The bigger rooms with bigger showers were good. Need some consistency or make sure you get a big room. Staff were very friendly and professional. Nothing we asked was too much and they were happy to oblige. Would stay again but make sure I got a bigger room.

Rooms were just okay. Had a family room with 2 bedrooms for 4 adults for 9 day stay. One room had no windows and the main room was tight and cramped. One small closet for clothes, no dresses. Bathroom was good, showers nice. No sitting area, had to sit on beds. Over paid for what we received. Would not return.

Professional staff,clean room @ super comfy bed. Downside-parking awkward for wagon ,shower room touch small @ foot traffic noise on 1st floor--at 6am. Location brilliant for Lygon St eateries, zoo, @ trams.As for utilizing Booking.com, staff wouldn't allow discounted price advertised by Booking.com, but would utilise the custom that Booking. com sent them!!

I decided to embark on a solo trip to Australia (I'm from Kentucky) and this was my first stay. It was my first time staying in a hotel by myself, let alone in another country, and the staff was phenomenal. The early luggage drop off helped me immensely and gave me the chance to walk around the area prior to check in. They also let me check in early which really helped me decompress after a longgg day of flights. Definitely suggest booking here! Great location and great staff.

I question if the other reviewers actually stayed at this hotel. Whilst the furniture and bedding were clean and Had recently been updated the interior of the windows were absolutely filthy. After my daughter started her sneezing fit I touched the curtains and windows. I doubt the windows had been cleaned in months which means the curtains weren't clean. The face cloth I used to clean the windows became black with the filth. The hotel was surprised and offered another room - this room was equally as dirty. I received a sizeable discount off my 2 night stay and a complimentary bottle of wine. However after experiencing the trickle of a shower whose water went hot and cold and poses a danger to children I checked out and did not stay a second night. The front desk staff were aware of the water situation. I went to complete my “guest experience” card only to find it had been completed by a guest who had stayed 3 nights previous. This speaks as to how this hotel values customer feedback. My promised discount could not be given on checkout, I had to phone on the Monday to have it processed. I won't discuss the useless basin in the bathroom.

While my husband was having a hospital procedure, I was keen to get good accommodation within walking distance to Melbourne Private Hospital. So was extremely happy with my choice of Best Western plus Travel Inn. The hotel was quiet, clean comfortable beds and pillows which is very important. The restaurant meals were beautiful, the waiting staff exceptional as were the cleaning staff. I would stay again, and highly recommend it to family and friends. So well done!

Because my husband had to be admitted to hospital for a procedure in Victoria, I was looking for a place for me to stay within walking distance to Melbourne Private. After reading some very encouraging reviews we chose Travel Inn Best Western in Carlton. I wasn't disappointed, it was clean comfortable, the bed and pillows so good. Having a lovely restaurant with beautiful meals, was a plus for me, not wanting to go out in the evenings on my own . The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would certainly stay again, and highly recommend it to family and friends.

as always wen we stay brilliant service, easy and great value. love staying ere every year for our trade sow because it is easy and the staff are very helpful. the lifts is a bit slow (our only negative) but the stairs are quick and easy.

My wife and I spent 2 nights with a Hotel.com reservation. We took the SkyBus($US 13.50 ea) from MEL Airport after turning in our rental car, arriving at 3 PM. A pleasant receptionist quickly checked us in, provided a city map and reported a bottle of wine was waiting. We took their single elevator up to the third floor. Our large carpeted #302 had a comfortable queen with 2 nightstands, large table and full couch, closet unit with hot pot, refer, coffee, and dresser with flat screen TV. The fully equipped bathroom (with shower) was very tight with an aggressive exhaust fan. We had good secure room WiFi, heat with AC, nice hot water but some road noise through the large insulated window with view over buildings. This nicely located 3 floor 100 room hotel has a lovely indoor pool and nice breakfast buffet(neither of which we used) and for us, a good value at US$75/ night.

Executive queen room with spa. Huge bed - was more like a king-size bed. Plus an added single bed for our son. Spa nice, though it smelt a bit. Water very hot. Pool is nice and fun, but small - the website photos are deceptive. To be expected, given it's Carlton. Supposedly heated, and we did go on a cold Melbourne day, but the heating is very questionable. Service mostly friendly - really easy check-in. $20 for the car park, if spaces available. Beware if you have a large car! Didn't dine in, so not sure what the food's like. TV has standard free-to-air stations only. Very budget motel in a great location.

On check in the reception staff were excellent, could not have been more helpful ,the meals in the restaurant were delicious and the waitress was brilliant, check out the next morning could not have been easier .

The shower was unusable due to huge variation in temperature. Water volume was a trickle so there should be no excuse for the huge variation between hot and cold. Other than that room was clean and bed was comfortable.

It was Pleasure staying at Best Western Plus Travel Inn. Nice, Budget Hotel in CBD. Easy access to all location in CBD. Good Place if someone travelling for Holidays. All Excursions are near by to Hotel. Good Eatery Joints are near to hotel. Always recommend. Good House Keeping and best reception service.

We wanted some reasonably priced accommodation to attend the White Night festival. The Best Western was ideally located in Carlton which is where we ended up our night. It took just 5 minutes to walk back to the hotel. The room was ideal as it was clean and modern and close to restaurants.

Overall the facility is tidy and convenient but when measured against others on a dollar for dollar basis, it was disappointing. The room was very small. I booked for one adult and two growing children and wasn't impressed with the room or the facilities thererof. The TV face a wall about 3 feet from its location. The bathroom has a glass door so night visits woke everyone. Glasses kept in the fridge as there was nowhere else to put them. The room was claustrophobic and difficult to move around. The car parking at $20 per night is limited difficult to move around. Larger cars will have difficulty navigating it and spaces are very tight. The lift is small and antiquated. It groans and squeaks and doesn't really inspire confidence. Would I stay there again?....NO. For that money there are far better options available in Melbourne.

This is the first time stay for me and my partner at this Hotel. We were looking for some where comfortable, quite and was close to the hospitals and restaurants. Well we found it right here at the Best Western Carlton. It delivered what we wanted and for the price you could not go past it. I am a member of one of those loyalty programmes and usually stay at another branded hotel within the area. The Best Western Carlton beat it in every regard.

this is the 2nd time i have stayed at motel, good staff, good service, good breakfast food, restaurent prices too high for evening meals, not good value nor menu choice, compared to many other eateries in the Carlton area. Some furniture in the rooms dated, and chairs uncomfortable to sit on, for writing, watching tv etc;

This is the third time I've stayed at this motel. The location alone is worth 5 stars, about a 1 minute walk from Lygon St, where you will find a smorgasbord of restaurants. Check in was easy and friendly, our room was extremely clean and of a generous size and the king size bed was very comfortable. Breakfast buffet was again was delicious.

Great location one block over from the middle of Lygon st restaurants bars and shops. Rooms are well appointed very clean, quiet and comfortable. Ample off street parking. Rates are well priced with regular deals.

The place is by no means new but is just the best hotel I have stayed in. So close to the restaurant strip in Lygon st. Staff awesome and the way the hotel was designed suited me. Great view of the heated pool from the balcony with lovely palms. Great clean room with good service and great staff.

Chose this hotel due to its convenient location within walking distance to the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show and availability of parking. The hotel was fully booked due with tour bus crowds so there was only the option of an executive king room when I booked which was $195 per night. These rooms are at the back of the hotel and our room looked straight into another room so we had to keep the curtains drawn which made it feel dark and dingy. Apparently the bathrooms are a little bigger than other rooms and the décor was fine but it just seemed like a standard room to me (a king and a single bed). I wouldn't book that style room again but I would stay if I could get a queen room at the front of the hotel which is up to $60 cheaper on their website. The hotel has a somewhat heated pool which we used but it is very small and shallow). The single lift is incredibly slow and the system to get in and out of the parking is amazingly antiquated - you have to push a button and wait for reception to open the gate each time. The hotel is well located around the corner from Lygon St (little Italy) and a short walking into Chinatown, etc. We didn't eat breakfast or use room service. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel was fine and I'd stay again at a much cheaper price if I couldn't find anything else suitable in the CBD.

Every time I stay in Melbourne I stay somewhere different, my hotels are often booked by other people and I have no say where I stay. I was in Melbourne for work for two days and was put up in this hotel for two night, I have stayed in way worse so sucked it up because the great location made it better. I have to say I love Carlton (great food great coffee and close to everything). More about the hotel it was basic and in need of Reno but overall clean and comfortable and that's all that counts really. The 2 Nd floor was being renovated so at times the paint fumes where bad. I did get a way , way better hotel for about $15 cheaper than this one about 1.2 Klm away a few days later. But overall the hotel location to Lygon street, Brunswick and Gertrude streets and the museum make it all worthwhile oh yes and only a few mins walk to Brunettis.

An excellent motel with friendly efficient and knowledgeable staff. Rooms are well set up. The location is a winner with it only being a short walk to the museum , imax , Lyon street restaurants or into the city.

As an older couple going to Melbourne for a special event can be daunting but when it comes a major medical procedure that is not even comparable. The staff at this hotel are both caring and professional. When we explained our situation they were more than happy to allow my husband to leave our car in the hotel car park after check out until my discharge from hospital, late in the afternoon. This relieved so much stress. The hotel was clean, comfortable and well located. Under different circumstances the restaurant would have been great. We look forward to staying again to enjoy the area and the hotel more fully. Thank you.

Best Western Plus Travel Inn Carlton, Cnr. Graton and Drummond Streets, Carlton. We stayed here as a group of 49 for the Melbourne International flower Show late March. It is a very convenient location, but our twin room was much smaller than any shown on the Best Western's website! The bathroom was tight, not even 2m X 2m, but adequate with amenities, but really nowhere to hang two damp towels. The water pressure in the shower was quite low. The beds were comfortable and we could open the windows. Room lighting was very good - only one in the bathroom, but two in the main part of the room, one for tea, coffee and good bed lights for reading. The WiFi was easy to access, but at times kept dropping out. The TV had only local channels – no Sky news or cable. Generous supply of tea, coffee etc.. There were a couple of items that needed to be attended to in the room and these were fixed whilst we were out. All the staff, both at reception and restaurant, were very pleasant and helpful, Everything was attended to with a smile. There is a lift available from the garage for those with mobility problems, but it is slow and small. We usually used the stairs. We had pre-ordered meals – necessary for such a large group – the first night: fish, chips and salad or chicken and vegetables. Good spread for breakfast, range of cereals and fruit, three types of bread for toast, croissants and muffins. Hot foods were scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, baked beans and mushrooms. Tea and coffee served at the table. Tomatoes were served in lieu of the mushrooms alternatively at breakfast. Dinner on day 2 was either salmon or roast lamb with mud cake and cream or fresh fruit salad and ice cream for dessert, followed by tea or coffee. Dinner day three was roast beef or chicken parmigiana, fresh fruit salad and ice cream or lemon tart with cream. The bar was cash only, but drinks can be booked up to the room account. There is a BWS in Lygon Street – just behind the motel, and a Woolworths further north on Drummond Street.

Great location, walking distance to Lygon Street restaurants and International Flower Show. Very good value with breakfast and free parking included in rate. Rooms were spacious and ours was very well maintained.

This hotel is clean, comfortable and in the best location. The staff are friendly and helpful, there is off street parking, you can walk to the city, parks, loads of restaurants. Its quiet, has a pool, great airconditioned rooms, ideal for a city break without the hassle of being right in the city.

Stayed here recently for 5 nights for work purposes. The rooms are very small and very basic. My room had a strong musty odour, which progressively got worse over my stay, I had to leave the window ajar. The rooms are definitely not sound proof or light proof, there was quite a few late night noisy guests which their doors banged on closing which vibrates through the corridor and walls. The hall light comes streaming through the gaps in the door. The bathroom is less than adequate, showers are so small you can't really bend over, and the toilet area is so squishy, pity help me if I was a large person! The guest laundry only opens at 9 am and not convenient for those who are there for employment reasons. The reception staff are not really obliging, only verging on friendly, there's hardly a smile. And never once did I get a greeting or acknowledgement on leaving or arriving back onto the premises. They hardly looked up from their computers. The buffet breakfast consisted of only watery scrambled eggs, bacon and beans, not a vast spread that's for sure, not really value for money and never quite enough food was out for the amount of people eating. Location is great, close to Lygon st, public transport, museum etc, but I personally would think twice about staying here again.

We needed accommodation close to St Vincents Hospital for my wife to undergo a cardiac procedure. Living over four hours away and with the procedure booked for 7.00am we checked in the day prior and set off to do a dummy run of the route to be taken next morning. Returning to the hotel our "credit card type" key wouldn't open the door. The cards were reprogrammed and still wouldn't work. The duty manager tried his luck to no avail and we were told a locksmith would be there within the hour. Time dragged on and it was critical we gained access to the room for my wife's pre procedure medication. I discovered we had lost one and a half hours with the duty manager attempting to fix the problem rather than ring a locksmith. When the locksmith finally arrived after over two hours, he opened the door in seconds saying that the locks were rubbish and twenty years out of date. The lock was rendered inoperable requiring a change of room. The duty manager said he would speak to "the boss" about either a discount or a free future room night as compensation for our stress and inconvenience. Neither eventuated. Apart from that, the establishment is a convenient place to stay. Our room(s) was spotless, the beds comfortable and the amenities all that could be expected. Being able to walk five minutes to our favourite Lygon St restaurants was a bonus.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Very comfortable and got a bonus free upgrade to a spa room. Conveniently located in between Lygon St and the museum, with a short walk to the Victoria Markets and the city. Heaps of close restaurants in Lygon St. Highly recommended.

This hotel is in a good location, really handy to Lygon street eateries and Melbourne CBD. The hotel is also clean, good staff, good breakfast but slowest lift on earth !!!! Parking can also be an issue in busy times but overall quite a good hotel.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and found it clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful and the free WiFi was strong and consistent. Located just off Lygon Street it is in easy walking distance to any number of restaurants and cafes. It is also less than half an hours walk to downtown Melbourne.

Very clean, modern amenities but the gym is at the Uni, and the pool is only for paddling. Restaurant has a very limited venue, especially for vegetarians but there are many options nearby. Rooms at the back are furthest from the noisier road. That said, it is good value for money given the location.

The room is decent size and clean. The bed is comfy and has reading lights. It feels cosy and is nicely decorated. The light is awesome and is easy to unwind here. Bathroom is small but functional. Location is convenient and is surrounded with loads of restaurants, if you like Italian this is the place for you. Plenty of places for breakfast, and is easy to get to the city, Elizabeth Street is only 15 minute walk. Pool is lovely and beautiful to look at and great temperature. Free Wi-fi is alright, I've no issues with streaming on it. Hot water is amazing. House keeping is wonderful and knows their work.

First visit as we were attending tennis and the hotel was recommended by a friend. We liked the location the cleanliness and the late checkout. Staff were exceptional. We will be back and will recommend to others.

Once again we have had a great experience, service and stay at Best Western Carlton. Clean room, good check in, car parking and great proximity to the city. Walk to all the theaters in Melbourne and the tennis centre.

In Melbourne on a little business and catch up with friends. Our stay was comfortable and relaxing. The service was good and the price was very reasonable for the proximity to the city and Lygon street food and entertainment strip. There is a great pizza bar across the street which made our overall stay great.

Friendly staff but room too small for our portacot to fit easily (even though we rang ahead to check before booking). Breakfast buffet doesn't always run, so on days it isn't on you must order off a very small (4 items from memory), completely inflexible menu which we were not told about when we booked. Pool towels all ripped and threadbare (although unless it is a hot day don't worry about your bathers, the heated pool is too cold to swim in), shower hard to work and poor water pressure. Old toothpaste on mirror in bathroom. Very disappointing stay unfortunately. Shame as just a few small changes could have made it a very nice place to stay. Great location as it is just round the corner from the Melbourne Museum and also a lot of busy little shops, just a short tram ride away from the city or the Queen Victoria Market.

This is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in, It started with us reporting a very slippery shower to reception staff who changed us to an even worse room, The reason we were in the city was to take day tours to the places we wanted to visit so we attempted to organise some coach tours, only to be told they did not pick up from that hotel. After a 2 night stay we decided to leave and drive to the places of interest. This is when I encountered the worst reception staff I have ever met. Not only was the person rude and arrogant his manager walked away.

I have now stayed in this hotel three times, most recently on the evening of 28 November. I chose this location because it is within walking distance of Melbourne University. As I was attending a function there, it made sense to stay close to the University. The amenities are excellent, rooms spacious, clean, modern and quiet. The pool was not open because it was too cool that night, but the bar and restaurant were open. Breakfast is perhaps the most disappointing meal, but otherwise excellent.

This is one of cleanest and best value hotels I have stayed at. Staff are friendly and helpful. Close proximity to everything and fantastic restaurants in Carlton a short way away. Always stay here when in Melbourne

Stayed with my family for two nights to visit the Myer Christmas Windows. Checked in by Shannon his service is very good as per normal. We have stayed a number of times over the years. Room was good, clean and beds quite comfortable. Our breakfast on the first morning was pretty good, a good selection of items but I did feel like I had to try too hard to get a coffee. On the second morning we got down for breakfast a little late just after 8am, there wasn't much left as there had been a big group go through but sadly they didn't replenish anything or things had run out. Was a disappointing way to end our stay.

Another hospital visit to St Vincent's. We had not been down to Melbourne for a couple of years to the Carlton area, and found that the normal place we stayed had closed for renovation. Looked up the map finder and found Best Western Plus. On phoning them found that they also have a Hospital bundle and from them on until our leaving, we found the establishment a real find. Has car parking - can be abit tight, Great Front of House staff and a God bar & Restaurant area - Menu is small but, if you don't feel like going to Lygon St, there are things on the Menu. The restaurant is not open on the Weekends as they have found people will be eating else where or at a venue for your visit. We will be going back again as it had a Good Vibe about it and also a Great position.

Our stay was for both leisure and to attend medical appointments. The location was perfect for both. As well as the restaurant at the Hotel, Carlton has a wonderful selection of interesting places to dine. Plenty of shopping, good coffee and the Nova Theatre to entertain. The staff were most helpful and friendly. Our room was clean with a very comfy bed. Not large but adequate for our needs. It was great to have parking space available at no extra cost, and whilst there we able to walk to everything. Our stay was most enjoyable at this Hotel and in this location.

Room was very neat and tidy, looks just the same as in the pictures. Staff are very lovely and are always willing to help with even the smallest questions. Breakfast was just delicious and easy. And a massive bonus is that it's in close proximity to public transport and the local shops.

This is our go-to hotel for a few days in Melbourne. Clean, comfy and right around the corner fromLygon Street. Easy walk into the centre of the city, or to Brunswick Street and the tram for further afield is at the end of the University line, about six minutes walk away. There is an adjacent, undercover, locked garage right next door if you've driven to Melbourne. Depends how much you've paid for the room, a day, but worth it. There is an on-site swimming pool in the atrium and a bar and restaurant, although we haven't eaten there. All round a good, solid value for money hotel.

Stayed at this hotel for one night. It is definitely not luxury, but it a very good modest hotel. The room was small but very clean and has the basic needs that one requires. Check-in was easy and there is car parking. The location is great, an easy 10-15 minute walk to the heart of the city, theatres, market, etc. Around the corner is Lygon street which has a variety of shops and a great choice of restaurants. If visiting Melbourne and don't want to be in the heart of the city or pay a premium to stay in a 5 star hotel then this could be a good alternative. Would definitely recommend if you got a good deal.

We have stayed at this Hotel on a number of occasions over the years & have always had an enjoyable time, this time however on entering our room {we booked a room with a Queen bed, a single bed & they also supplied a slide out bed] which was what we booked & we were happy with. We turned on the heater in the room as it was a very cold day only to find that the air cond heating wasn't working properly &, on entering the bathroom found there was a water leakage issue with water pooled on the floor. We rang management & we had a prompt reply to our room which was good but there was nothing that could be done at that time so we were ushered along with the slide out bed to another room, but it was clearly too small room with hardly any walking space or anywhere to sit down as the bed took up all the space. We were told that the issue would be fixed & we would be back in our original room the next day but as there is no maintenance this didn't happen. My husband spoke to the girl at reception when we were leaving & we were told that management would ring us about these issues {they havn't>. What we don't find fair is the fact we were given a much smaller room but we paid a higher price for the room which we had originally booked for & weren't able to use. l would like to add the people working here are very polite & very helpful &, the establishment is great especially with close proximity to the Lygon Street eateries.

Stayed one night only. Check in and check out was without problem, staff were excellent and extremely helpful,all clean and well dressed. Parking was secure,under cover and was free. Very nice room. Spacious, clean, fresh, quiet. Super bed. Excellent position just off Lygon St where there are fantastic Italian restaurants. Parking on site cost extra but it was off the street. Good bar lounge area. Didn't eat dinner there (why would you when there is so much on offer around the corner), but was a very small limited menu.

I was allocated a room with an interconnecting door. I could clearly near the conversation and music from the adjacent room, which was very disturbing. In addition, there is no draft or sound stopper on the on the room door, which means all sound from the corridor can be heard inside the room. The sound of traffic noise and sirens filters through the thin glass windows. Worst nights sleep I ever had in a hotel. Everything else is fine and the staff were friendly.

I stayed here for one night on a business trip and all my room requests were met. The hotel room was small, containing a clean and functional bathroom, beds are okay in comfort and the room contained a medium sized bench space to work at. The room also has black out blinds and a free car park which staff allowed me to park my car for the following day whilst I was at work nearby. The hotel has free wifi and was a great connection. The hotel also contains a restaurant, however, I did not eat here for dinner as I walked 5 minutes to Lygon Street which has many many options. The hotel offers breakfast, and the breakfast is decent. All of the staff members I encounter were extremely lovely, inviting and helpful. The location of this hotel was perfect for my business needs, as I walked about 15 minutes to my workplace. This is a great hotel for short stay guests and any business people working in the vicinity that require an affordable option compared to other hotels around.

I have stayed at this hotel many many times over recent years. Sometimes I book direct, others on line or through third party. I love location, close to city, good rooms, nice staff. Upon recent visit it was a last minute trip down to watch football at MCG. Checkin was excellent, room comfortable and all the other consistent service levels and amenities that are on offer. Until latest visit upon check out the receptionist did not even look up from desk just held her hand up for key card after I gave room no. Only words were...all done!! Perhaps not the best service and whilst I was not expecting a long winded conversation so early in the morning perhaps a friendly good morning, thank you or even just a slight smile could have been offered. Won't stop me from staying in future as I know what great service is usually on offer.

We booked here because it was close to a work function. Staff were efficient and professional, room clean with the usual appointments, decor maybe a tad tired. Had a comfortable and uninterrupted sleep, which was all we wanted.

My wife and I stayed here several years ago and decided to stay there again and re-live some fond memories. The location is great for a wander into the CBD, but the food available in Lygon Street is excellent. The staff were very friendly and able to provide all that was needed. Pleasant, professional and attentive. The bed room was very pleasant with all amenities and a decent bed - we slept very well. The room was quiet and suited our needs. There is parking space underneath which we have found very useful. In the morning we had breakfast. One of the wait staff (sorry didn't get her name) was excellent. Her manner and approach was great. We met her years ago and remembered her and she was still present doing a great job - a great experience overall and very pleased we decided to stay there again.

I wanted to stay close to a restaurant on Lygon St, and booked here only the afternoon before because of its proximity and availability of parking. I wasn't disappointed. I rang twice before booking and the concierge was really helpful on the phone. The rooms have been recently renovated, and the breakfast was really nice. I'd definitely stay again if in the area

Smack dab in the Lygon St central area close to supermarkets, shops, cinemas, and restaurants. Easy parking and great beds. The staff are friendly, helpful and it's a short walk to the Carlton aquatic centre for a swim. Would stay here anytime.

This was my third stay at the Best Western Plus Travel Inn in Carlton. Reception staff are friendly and helpful. I had some problems with the drainage in the shower and the gentleman at reception promptly gave me a key for another room, no fussing about.

We stayed 4 nights in Melbourne, and they upgraded us to a larger room which was very nice. The hotel is, I think, on the older side but has been renovated and looks good. The city was upgrading the water (I think) on the street when we were there which made getting into and out of the garage something of a problem. Also, it was difficult for taxis to find us. Even though we had a car, we found it easier to take taxis than to struggle with Melbourne traffic and finding parking. The desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. One gentleman helped me make tour reservations when the phone in our room didn't work (they fixed it promptly). He also made excellent suggestions for sightseeing. The guest laundry was small, but as it was located by the pool, I was able to sit by the pool in the shade with a book and still get the laundry done. This is important when you are on a 32 day vacation.

We stayed 4 nights at the Best Western in Drummond Street Carlton. It is an easy walk to restaurants in Lygon Street, to the museum and to Little Bourke st in the city. The location for us was perfect. Our room on top floor had recently been renovated and everything was sparkling new. Staff were helpful and friendly. This is a good hotel but not luxurious

This hotel is in one of the quieter streets for this area and I have now stayed here 3 times in the last 4 weeks. The first time my room was at the front of the building, it was very surprising that the road noise was not an issue. All the rooms are clean and the beds are Comfortable, lots of hot water in a good sized show. The food down stairs is nice but standard when compared with Lygon street. One block away is food heaven and is a must for anyone in the area. The staff do their best to help in any way they can and all are well mannered. If driving a car the underground parking is a little tricky as the space is tight and the exit is often blocked with carpet or tools where you need to drive, getting out of the car park requires you to get out of the car and swipe you room card.

Perfect location off Lygon St. Easy walking to the places we were in Melbourne to visit and wonderful lanes to stroll through. Of course the hours of roaming and snacking on Lygon Street were excellent.

This hotel is very convenient if you want to be close to Lygon Street, but also is close to the Exhibition Building and a nice walk into the city. Our room looked fairly newly refurbished. Everything was clean and comfortable. My only issue was - I rang from outside the hotel early on the morning of our departure (a Sunday morning) to ask if any chance of a later check out at 12 noon instead of 11am. The receptionist answered immediately that she would not do a late checkout. We were at a medical centre with our son from early morning and I was worried we wouldn't be back in time and 1 extra hour on a Sunday when there would be loads of checkouts didn't seem like a big ask. I would have paid an extra fee. So I needed to leave the doctors and come back to the hotel to pack our gear. At 11.04am they were knocking on the door to see if we had left. I left at 11.12am. Leaves you with a bad feeling for the hotel when they are checking at 4 minutes past check out to see if you have gone yet and will not consider a late checkout. I'd probably try a different hotel next time in the hope of friendlier staff.

Great place to stay, so close to Lygon Street and all the good eateries, just a short one block walk and quality service from all the staff. Undercover parking is not a problem and a good buffet breakfast. No problems with the in room internet, .

Great Hotel with very polite staff, easy check in and check out, room was very comfortable, the in room spa was terrific to come back to after a night on the town, and there's so much to do in the heart of Carlton, where you can simply walk to the fabulous restaurants just around the corner....

Dissapointed with the service. Overpriced hotel built in 70's. Feels like motel. $20 per night extra for parking if you have a car. $20 extra if you are a minute late of check out at 11am. Front desk doesn't care about customers.

I get the cheap option, doesn't worry me. But when you can hear conversations through the wall. Tin banging on the roof all night. Bathrooms without wastes in the wet areas. Very small shower and and a toilet you have to ride side saddle. Yep won't be back sorry.

After spending few night in hostel. This hotel is the best, comfy room and bed. Great bathroom! Large smart tv, wifi and a/c in the room very good! The staff was great. This hotel also have mini swimming pool on site and gym and spa on melbourne university..(walking distance) The area a little bit out of town. But still accessible by tram.. but hey you got peaceful and no noise of traffic surround. Melbourne muzeum, zoo, old gaol and few tourist place is nearby. There also a lot kf eatry and bar nearby.

A typical business traveller hotel with business facilities. The double bed was just two single beds zipped together and the rooms aren't exactly intended to be modern or trendy, nor are you paying for them to be. But there is unlimited strong wifi, good aircon, hot water, efficient room service and staff, etc. The pool looked lovely too. Fantastic location with an easy stroll to Lygon St, Brunswick St, the CBD and trams.

Booked in OK, first visit to the place, but when I went to the reception to ask where the restaurant was, the male receptionist just came out with several, very rude comments. This is not something you wish to receive after a hard day on the road!! Needless to say, this brand will not be on my future booking list. There again I only use hotels about twice a week!!

It is located at strategic location and affordable price. Location: walking distance to Lygon St, great place for Italian food. Near telecommunication shop and 7-11 and even bus top to CBD. Room: Average and air circulation can better. Shower side is abit small for me. I am 70 kg. Food: Average but it is convenience.

Nice hotel, good value for money with friendly staff. Location was perfect for us but it depends what you are looking for – we were visiting a friend who lived in Carlton so being nearby was nice. The hotel is very close to Lygon and Brunswick Street which are both full of restaurants and bars. Hotel was a short walk to tram stops that take you right into the city too. We got a train to Brighton Beach and walked to St Kilda which was a really nice walk.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October for a wedding and had a really enjoyable stay. It was clean and the room that we had was spacious. The dry cleaning came back on time and it was a short walk into Burke street for shopping and the wedding venue was just a stroll across the park.

Although the location is pretty good - very close to Lygon Street but a decent walk to the city, the room was basic but the bathroom was tiny. The toilet was squeezed into a corner - only suitable for a child. Quite a bit of street noise. Convenient carparking was reasonably priced.

Went to the Australian Open Tennis with a Probus Group and stayed at the Best Western Travel Inn. Hotel was located near Lygon Street (restaurants) and only a couple of blocks from the city. Rooms were clean with tea/coffee making facilites. Full hot breakfast was available, as well as evening meals. Hotel also had a pool and undercover parking.

Understandably it was a busy time of year, with tennis and cricket, but still would have expected more from looking on their website and reviews. was very noisy, we had a horrible night's sleep, ( or no sleep) Due to people standing on the street talking until all hours and then rubbish truck starting at about 4.30 am.. Room very basic and pokey. Bathroom very small in all ways.. Really not what you see on to ads and website.

Stayed 2 nights here for Xmas function in Collingwood. Great location only 100mtrs from Lygon Street and all the awesome restaurants on that road. Bed was King sized and comfortable and service was great. Internet speed was also fantastic

Stayed here with wife and son, two beds in the room. The location is very good and an easy walk to Lygon Street and other attractions like the Museum and IMAX. Off street parking, but not secure. At least not when I was there. There is a gate but it was open at 1am so I'd guess it stayed open. I found the room to be small with either the bed to sit on or two chairs. There is a bar fridge and writing desk. The wardrobe doesn't open up fully because of the table the TV was on got in the way. Bed comfort is an individual thing. What I like might be different to you. Having said that, I didn't like the bed and found it hard and uncomfortable. There is a bit of noise that gets into the room from the hallway and other guests. Staff : The lady working when I checked out was friendly. The lady working on check in wasn't so much. We didn't try the pool due to the bad weather at the time. It looked clean. The restaurant was closed Saturday night so can't offer any review.

Location was great, easy access to main roads around the city. No to mention a short walk from the city centre. Great bed, quiet room, nice bathtub. The room we stayed in was a Deluxe room, which has a queen bed and an LCD TV.

Close to Lygon Street for dining and were we needed to go. Thought the price was a little high for the size and standard of the room, have stayed in rooms with more space and furniture and paid less in the same area.

We stay here often and the staff are very accommodating. Great parking facilities, and food, comfortable beds and cleanliness. It is in the perfect position for many places like the Royal Melbourne hospital.

Location was great for our visit. close to transport etc. Room was not the type as requested or paid for as the hotel was fully booked,but staff very apologetic ,however no alternative was offered but this in our opinion was a minor distruption. We could not find the Pay T.V. instructions on where to use it or even find it, even though it was shown to be available in the rooms.

Great location to get around the city and walking distance to Lygon Street. Staff polite room clean and obliging. There are plenty places of interest to visit just a bus ride or walk to a tram but we sure to have a Myki with money on it. There are areas of the city where you can ride public transport for free.

If you want a great location which is a 2 minute walk to Lygon Street, stay at the Best Western Plus Travel Inn Hotel in Carlton. Breakfast is O.K. but nothing sensational. If you like walking Melbourne city is about a 15 minute walk. Otherwise there are trams available on Swanston Street. Great spotto base yourself if you want to stay out of the centre of Melbourne.

The hotel was nice enough. It was clean and the spa room wAs quite good. I did not appreciate the service at front desk though, not very friendly at all. I did like the location and cleaning staff were more friendly than front desk. I had breakfast which was good. I did expect more variety because it said Buffett.. but it's was not bad and the staff were more friendly and helpful there..

Great location and yet quiet enough for good sleep; comfortable bed with sensible pillows and covers; window that actually opens; and helpful staff. And a good price as well. No luxury touches - not surprising in this price range, and anyway I didn't want them. Highly recommended.

I stay here a lot for work mainly because of the great location and proximity to Lygon Street. Sometimes it can be pot luck with the rooms as a few are pretty tight and the tv's are in strange places, but the service is great and the restaraunt is good for breakfast.

We stayed here recently on a one night stop before boarding Spirit of Tasmania. It was quiet and very close to Lygon Street and lots of restaurants and shops. The room was clean and the bed comfortable though the décor was rather dated. The lift was rather inadequate as there was a large Chinese tour group and it would only hold a few people at a time so we had a long wait on several occassions. The carpark was very tight but free so that was a bonus. Staff were friendly. There is a restaurant and pool which looked good. The hotel is within in walking distance to Melbourne CBD (as we walked it) and Melbourne Jail which has interesting tours.

The room was very musty smelling as if it had been closed for a long time. The bathroom was very small with little floor or shelf space. The bed was quite comfortable, the closet was a good size, and the wifi was strong. The staff were very friendly and we received excellent service.

The hotel is within walking distance of excellent restaurants such as Cutler & Company and Town Mouse. Lying one street parallel to Lygon street it also offers easy access to the more predictable but somewhat tired Italian restaurant scene. The rooms at the hotel are of adequate size and equipped with a large screen tv. The hotel features a pleasant pool. Overall the hotel while providing easy access by walking or by tram to main attractions is located in a very pleasant area.

I must say I couldn't fault it. The Staff were efficient, friendly and very helpful. We experienced a quick check in and check out. Location is great, very central, close to the city, just a short tram ride. Breakfast was very nice. We stayed there for 4 nights, and we would definately recommend it, and definately stay there again.

This hotel is in a great location, and is clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The pool was lovely and my young child enjoyed being able to stand up in it. Staff were friendly and helpful. My only issue was with the shower - the water pressure was horrendous, but even worse, it switched rapidly between freezing cold and scalding hot without warning. It was like being in that large share house where no-one could turn a tap on when someone was showering; obviously someone was turning taps on every time I was in this shower! I mentioned it to reception and they said they would get maintenance to look at it, but I did not notice any difference afterwards, and it's obviously a bigger problem with the plumbing system anyway (my limited knowledge of plumbing tells me that tinkering with the actual shower would not fix this!) Unfortunately this would stop me staying here again, especially with a young child as I felt it was dangerous.

We had a "Deluxe Twin Room", on the second floor. Easy to book in, lifts to all floors. The room had a large bed and a single bed. The room was well presented, had air conditioning. Only complaint is the bathroom is small, to have a shower, toilet and hand basin in the same room. The room consisted of a television, room to write, Wifi (with the password supplied). In the room has hair dryer, ironing equipment, fridge. Tea/ coffee facilities. All the rooms are non smoking. It has a heated outdoor pool, conference room and gym. The hotel provides breakfast 7 days a week; but dinner only Sunday to Thursday in its restaurant. The hotel is well positioned, only a street from Lygon Street, gardens 5 minutes away and easy walking distance to Melbourne's CBD. The hotel has a direct line to a "Taxi" company, that is reasonably priced to take you to the Melbourne Cricket Ground or the CBD.

The main thing about this hotel is it's excellent location close to the Carlton restaurant scene. So many great restaurants to choose from. Really good Italian cuisine in the evening. Really good Café culture in the morning for coffee and breakfast. The hotel itself has comfortable, quiet rooms, with helpful friendly staff.

Only stayed one night and found it to be a fantastic location! Close to st vincents and plenty of restaurants. We had a room on the bottom floor and found it to be very stuffy as no windows opened. Air conditioner blew directly onto beds which was a bit of a pain with someone with arthritis. Swimming pool area right near the room looked lush and amazing! I would have spent more time there if it wasn't in the middle of winter! Room was clean and beds were very comfortable. Price was fantastic too! Would certainly return!

This is a great place to stay as all the staff are so friendly and make you feel so comfortable. It is located very close to all the Lygon Street restaurants however is on a side street that is pretty quite. The roooms are always very clean and tha bar is a great place to have a quite drink at the end of the day. It is also well priced for both business and family groups.

Great location just off Lygon Street, Carlton. Easy walk to restaurants, trams, St Patrick's cathedral, Museum. Safe with 24 hour reception. Nice facilities. Only negative was the lift is quite small and old. Didn't eat on the premises so can't comment on the food.

This Hotel is on a quiet street, but in a very convenient location to all the restaurants, shops and cinema in Lygon Street. The room was adequate, with a comfortable bed. It was quite cold, even though the air conditioner was on a high setting. There was a permanent open screened section at the very top of the window. The breakfast was adequate, but the parking was very accessible. The housekeeping staff were pleasant. A reception staff member was not particularly helpful or pleasant.

Not a 5 star hotel but a good standard hotel with everything you need. Small rooms but when I'm in Melbourne I don't spend much time in the room any way. Clean rooms with comfy beds and good quality linen. Great pool area if you are there in warmer area. I was a little disappointed with the scrambled eggs at breakfast as they tasted like powdered eggs. But overall a good quality breakfast. A shirt walk to Lygon Street so lots of fabulous eating options. Close to major hospitals also.

Don't expect 5 star accommodation, expect a location friendly, basic room amenities and a comfortable stay if the hospital is the main reason for staying here and of course the many eateries of Lygon St a 5 minute walk away. Beds very comfortable and one of the darkest and quietest rooms we have stayed in. I won't bore you with details of what this place offers, read the website and reviews. Staff helpful and friendly and if you can put up with the small bathroom with pressure-less and fluctuating temperatures and limited utensils then this place is reasonable and worthwhile.

This hotel whilst an older style and could do with a refresh is in the perfect location. Everything is in walking distance and easy to get to. If you are not a walker then it is not too far to the nearest tram station. The showers are small but the hotel offers all the things you need to shower an have a good nights sleep.

Beds tall small for tall people, rooms are noisy no cold water in the refrigerator for convenience and not enough milk in the fridge for 2 people, i have stayed at best western hotels in the past where i have enjoyed my stay there this is why i chose to stay at the one in Carlton but the little things let it down.

We enjoyed our stay. Would have loved to have a swim in the lovely pool but not enough time & cool weather. Rooms bright & airy. Staff were very helpful. The airport bus was cheap & efficient. Would definitely recommend as close to Lygon St & tram to city.

The room was clean, well equipped and the finishes were high quality. Rajiv was very friendly, provided a speedy check-in and a free upgrade as is was a quiet Sunday night. The attached bar had a good wine list. The breakfast was nothing special, but adequate.

Rather than get up super early and catching a taxi to the airport we got better value for our money by spending the night before our flight at the Best western Plus Travel Inn - Money well spent! The room was quiet, comfortable and well appointed; we relaxed in the bar before having a tasty meal in the restaurant. The courtesy bus delivered us to the airport in ample time to check in for our flight. Great start to our holiday and we'll do it again.

Young Lady on Reception on arrival - excellent. Restaurant - Good Menu, meal presentation and service is of a high standard. Didn't like the live TV in Dining Area. The secure parking with 24 hour access was a bonus, the down side was is was serviced by a very small, very slow lift.

When checking in to motel i was told that they have upgraded me to a room with spa bath strange as i did book a room with a spa bath so there was no upgrade at all. When time came to use spa bath it did not work. Upon check out spoke to a girl and said she would let the manager no what had happened and that manager would call me back. Well still waiting for that call. No sorry or compensation very disappointing experience.

Your hotel is situated in a pleasant environment where the city center and the green park are in harmony. Traffic was good, shopping mall was close, and walk of park was free. Overall, safety net was established and life was well protected. The room service was also quick and hygienic, and the housekeeper also kept the room clean and well maintained. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was just right for a couple of nights stay while on business having all the amenities that you need. Being so close to Lygon Street is an added bonus as there are so many places to eat.

Second time visiting Melbourne and what a location. Check in was smooth and easy and we were made to feel welcome straight away. The stand out though was our interaction with Shannon the receptionist on in the evening who gave us great tips on getting around the city. But the highlight was his recommendation of Milk the Cow bar on Lygon Street. Again the location of this hotel would be hard to beat. Will definately be back.

We were able to park our car on site & walk whereever we needed to go. Hospital was only one km away with plenty of shops available in Lygon St which is one block away. My husband was very satisfied with breakfast and dinner at restaurant on site while visiting hospital.

We went there for medical reasons and the proximity to the hospital was first class . The inn was nice and clean and the service was good . The room was basic and we had a view over Drummond St , at night you could draw black out curtains so it made sleeping quite easy .

That's what we're after and that's what we have been getting at Best Western Plus Travel Inn Hotel in Carlton every time we have gone over the last 12-15 years. The fact that we first make a phone enquiry about vacancies, before we look around for possible alternatives, speaks for itself: the satisfied customer comes back!

Great location, with easy walking access to trams and taxis a phone call away. Close to Melbourne Museum, IMAX Cinema, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and University of Melbourne campus. St Vincent's hospital is 5-10 minutes walking distance away.

Loved our stay .. the only issues; 1) was a shower that would run hot, cold and the right temperature water every few minutes and 2) the free WiFi was not usable. Otherwise the room was great, the lift and parking was good and tge location exceptional. Would stay there again next time.

I have been regularly staying at the Best Western Plus Travel Inn for several years. I always get excellent service. I appreciate the kind and courteous staff who help me each time I stay. The rooms are always tidy and clean. The hotel is conveniently located for access to Melbourne city, Lygon Street's many fine dining options and Melbourne Museum.

You can count on the Best Western chain for consistently well-appointed motels and good staff. This is an ideal place to stay in Melbourne with Lygon Street restaurants around the corner and a tram to the city a few yards away. We were a bit surprised to find that housekeeping was a bit slack: neither our safe or landline phone in room 208 were working and there was no soap in the toilet adjacent to the bar downstairs.... small things perhaps but suggesting that someone was not on the ball that weekend.

This nicely located Travel Inn in the heart of Carlton just off Lygon Street was just what we were looking for. Just a 2 minute walk to good Italian restaurants and Cafés. The Travel Inn staff were all friendly and helpful. The limited carpark was a concern, but they arranged for parking next door in the Clock Tower carpark. The rooms are a good size with a King size bed and the bathroom nice, but a little on the small size. The only thing that I would say may need attention, is the Sardine Can Size Lift. If you ever stay here you will see. Haha.

First time stay in this hotel. Location very convenient but only booked it because I was assured the swimming pool was heated to 25 degrees. Yes, it is June, but the temperature would be scratching to be 15 degrees. When I enquired I was told they cannot turn up the heat because of council regulations. Very disappointed. Also there is not good sound-proofing around the windows and doors so quite noisy and hard to sleep.

If you don't know Melbourne. And there transport system The hotel is a bit out of way had to walk 5 blocks to get to the tram. Hotel a little dated website does not give true reflection of the rooms , although staff were friendly and helpful

Conveniently located, this hotel has large rooms with all the usual conveniences and very comfortable beds. The staff is professional and friendly and it is close to Lygon Street for cafés & restaurants. Onsite secure parking is available, whilst an airport shuttle can be arranged via starbus.

I stayed here with two mates to attend the GABS festival in May. We had a triple room on the third floor 332 and although it wasn't huge, the space was enough so we didn't feel we were sleeping on top of each other. The room was quiet and very clean. The beds comfortable and the bathroom had the basic amenities needed for our stay. The black out curtains made sleeping late easy as the room was totally dark til we opened them. The staff were friendly and the rooms serviced daily. The Italian precinct of Lygon Street was one street over and the University tram stop only another two over. Was a few minutes walk to the Exhibition Building where our event was being held. Only fault, no exhaust fan in the bathroom, there was only a vent. Otherwise our three night stay was great and I would definitely stay here again.

We were assigned a small but very confortable room in the ground level, conveniently located near laundry room for guests. The hot breakfast buffet was good but it was not not included with the room. It costed 25 AUD$. The hotel is located near an Italian neighborhood with many restaurants and shops. We used taxis to move quickly within the city and visit attractions, taxi fares within the city were reasonable except for the over $60 ADL we paid to/from the airport.

We are regular visitors of the travel inn & the standard has always been of a very high standard & consistent. Great location & value for money. No additional car parking charges is a bonus. Kids love the swimming pool.

Our stay of three nights was following a hospital visit. We experienced some noise in the corridor two nights in a row with what sounded like a coach party arriving very late and the following night them departing very early in the morning, with the coaches engine running for quite a while before departure. Otherwise we had a very pleasant stay.

Great location, always clean linen and bathroom facilities and importantly, good friendly customer service. We are regular customers as we often go to events in and around Melbourne. Quick walk down to Lygon Street for great coffee or a meal is also a bonus.

This place has a little surprise that I won't spoil (take bathers).. in a fantastic location for exploring Lygon st. loads of Italian restaurants... an off the main stream cinema... yummy ice cream .. and some shops for the ladies who like to shop. It's also a 10 minute walk to the museum . 5 stars as I think you would struggle to get better value for money.. has off street parking, spotless rooms and modern decor.. as with all hotels, if you want a view ask .

Stayed for four nights - Booked online but were upgraded to spa suite which was nice. Spacious room with everything we needed, the WiFi was ok once we were connected, the toiletries were of high quality and abundant, all facilities were provided as expected. The hotel is a short walk away from Lygon St and the heart of the cafe/restaurant scene with wonderful dining opportunities. Secure parking was available at $20 per day extra and while a bit tight a large SUV could manoeuvre adequately.The staff were efficient if not overly friendly but did the job. It was quiet (for our room) and there is a pool. We ate a full cooked breakfast one morning - at $25 per head it was adequate with a fair range of food.

We booked a King Deluxe room but the name is a bit grandiose for the room itself. Just average size with a very small bathroom. But very comfortable king size bed. Spotless presentation and being right next to Lygon St. all the restaurants and cafes are only a very short walk away. Room not very quiet with outside noise from other guests very noticable from doors closing, etc. Under ground parking very good and secure.

This is our favourite accommodation to book in Melbourne and is a reasonable price. Over many years now staff have always been helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Easy location to drive to and close enough to the city.

The free hotel bus drops about a block away. Only a short walk to the lygon street precinct (1 block to lygon street) and about a 10 minute walk to the trams. The staff are friendly and the room is clean. Lovely looking pool area. Shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser are supplied.

We had three nights at this hotel and were very satisfied with the quality, friendliness and price. Our main purpose of visiting Melbourne was the Flower Show and this hotel is extremely well situated for that purpose. It is only one short block away from Lygon Street for dining and three short blocks from a tram service into the city. Our room was large, modern, very clean and well equipped. The only negative thing was the shower which would switch from hot to cold with no warning. A good breakfast was included with hot food and a really good fresh fruit salad, among other things.

We recently traveled to Melbourne to attend the "garden and flower show". We elected to stay at this Hotel because it is located close to both the flower show and the Lygon street restaurants. It is also within walking distance to the city, so on the subject of location it scored highly. The room was clean but not very spacious and the bathroom was tiny. The only facilities in the room were a t.v, a kettle and a fridge. There was no means of heating some milk for a decent coffee or making a piece of toast. However the biggest problem was the noise. Every time someone entered or left their room, the door would slam shut and echo right through the hotel. Also the layout of the hotel requires all guests to walk right past your door and window dragging their luggage and talking. As result of this sleep was a rare commodity. For over $200.00 a night, I expected better and will NEVER go back there.

The hotel room was comfortable and in a perfect location on the doorstep of lygon st. A couple of the counter staff at the front reception really need to improve their customer service skills. When we first arrived the greeting was unfriendly. Not a good first impression. Swipe cards on entry to the room did not work and on returning to reception I was questioned if I used it properly! Anyway moving on, for the price, the location and room is good value.

This hotel had the cleanest and best presented room I have been in. The bathroom was exceptional, no mould just beautifully cleaned. Will definitely come back here again. Beds were very comfortable, pool was lovely to swim in. Great value for money.

This hotel is very convenient. It is clean, with a parking, the room is big enough, with a fridge and a everything to make tea or coffee. Most of all it is very well located because you can go by walk to Fitzroy which is the best area of Melbourne. A beautiful park near by, lot of trees and cute littles typical houses; there is a nice and quiet touch in this area, far from the busy and noisy cbd. The bed is very comfy and the staff is very useful and polite. A very good place to stay if you don't need to go in the CBD everyday. Very close to Lygon street also and a lot of good restaurants around. Highly recommended.

Hotel misleads you that breakfast is included. You go to eat the breakfast and there are no prices posted anywhere, no menus, no one tells you, until you check out then they surprise you and charge you for breakfast. Completely disgusting behaviour and against Australia law.

I checked in late on a Sunday afternoon. I had been in transit for the better part of the day and I was exhausted. Much to my delight, there was a lovely young girl working the reception who was extremely friendly and made me feel immediately welcome. Morgan organised everything so that all I had to do was enter the Wi-Fi password and relax. The following day I had a lovely time sightseeing in Melbourne using some of the suggestions that Morgan gave me the night before. That night, I ate dinner at the hotel restaurant on Morgan's suggestion. however, I was a little disappointed to see that the waiter preferred to send text messages rather than tend to his guests. I hope this review is useful.

Recently only stayed one night not my usual choice of Hotel when I stay in Melbourne but this was close to a function I attended on the night. I was tossing between 3 or a 4 star rating and decided on a 3 because of a group which who were also staying in the Hotel had no consideration for other guests staying at the Hotel by all smoking out the front to the late hours and I believe the gentleman on reception could have done something about this and they were very loud also at breakfast which was the usual but please change your coffee choice it was undrinkable. Room was clean yes a small bathroom but it does the job. Very handy to Melbourne attractions and Lygon street. Would stay here again but would probably ask for a room not on Drummond street or I just copped a bad night with this group.

The staff here were what really made this hotel stand out among the many I've stayed at. Morgan in particular, as week as Candace and Katie, never failed to make us feel welcome and generally brighten our day when one of them was working. I will definitely be staying here if I'm ever back in Melbourne.

Stayed for two nights and it was great the location is fantastic, the service was great and the rooms were good . The parking is great and you don't get charged extra which is good. Overall great place to stay .

Hotel is situated on outskirts of city a 20 minute walk from the centre but close to a park and Little Italy and Chinatown for the numerous restaurants and has a 7 eleven shop on the corner. Breakfast was poor with overcooked or reconstituted scrambled eggs, bacon and tomatoes or toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt or a muffin. Biscuit crumbs were on the stair carpet on arrival and still there after 3 days. Room 219 overlooked a car park and another building. Room was okay, clean and comfortable with tea, coffee and kettle, iron and board plus hairdryer. Bathroom had shower over bath plus shampoo, conditioner and body was, no moisturising lotion provided. 30 minute walk to the Victoria markets which are well worth a visit selling some good quality items.

The room was excellent, with a comfortable bed, great views from out the front window - of Drummond street townhouse terraces. Breakfast very good also. I would recommend to stay there. There is parking under the building and a lift.

I have stayed at this Hotel 4 times now and insist to stay here every time I visit Melbourne. The rates are very reasonable with the rooms being spacious and comfortable. The only qualm I would have is that I requested an early check in (even though I acknowledge that they were fully booked the night before) however I didn't get into my room until 1.30pm when I arrived at 10.00am after a 9 hour drive from New South Wales. I kept checking as to whether the room was ready, however the receptionist really didn't seem to care and just carried on doing his work. I believe didn't think that he did not worked hard enough to get housekeeping to clean our room as I did know that the room had been checked out. Eventually I had to ask the receptionist to request housekeeping to clean our room as their next priority as I was very tired and needed to rest. I have worked at the Novotel in Wollongong and I know the procedures. I was rather disappointed about his assistance as every other stay, we were always welcomed and they always had a room available. I will also acknowledge that check in is advertised at 2.00pm, however I believe this receptionist should have tried to accommodate my request. However, on a brighter side, it is so close to Lygon Street restaurants and cafes and only a 15 minute walk to Melbourne CBD. The hotel is also close to trams as well. The hotel has a heated pool, which I never used, but in the warmer months, it would be ideal. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is travelling to Melbourne. The rates are cheap, clean rooms and very handy to all attractions. I will definitely stay there again.

The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home. Simple hotel all you need for a business stay. Morgan was friendly and very accommodating and looked after our group with check in, breakfast etc. a real asset to the hotel. Location is good in proximity to Lygon st, Fitzroy and plenty of dining options around.

The Best Western Travel Inn Hotel offers a comfortable and quiet stay in Carlton, Melbourne. Walking distance to the delights of Lygon St restaurant and great bookshops and Melbourne University. It is a lovely leisurely walk through Carlton Gardens to the Museum and Exhibition Building and further into the CBD and Spring St end of the city and theatre district. A budget friendly choice close to all the attractions of Melbourne without the hustle bustle of the city.

A friend and I stayed here when visiting a car show at the nearby Royal Exhibition Buildings. The rooms had been recently renovated and although not large, were clean and well appointed. The staff at the front desk were efficient and helpful, although not particularly friendly. A good base when visiting the Carlton area and represents good value for money.

Stayed overnight to see a show in Melbourne at the Regent. Easy to get to on the Starbus fom airport (not the skybus) and back. $63 for 2 persons return to hotel. Easy walk to restaurants and 15 minutes to the theater. Cabbed back was also easy but a nice walk. Good value room with comfortable bed. Helpful and cheerful front desk on phone and in person. Quite a lot cheaper than cbd hotels and just as convenient.

This hotel is fine if you need somewhere for a night or two in a good location. It is on a quiet street a block from the happening end of Lygon St (e.g. near cinema) and we had a nice view over Drummond Street from our room. The window opened, which is a good plus for me. The bed was a little too hard for my taste but it was OK. The room (Deluxe Queen, which I think is the next up from standard) was fine with all necessary equipment, spare blanket, enough coat hangers etc. It was not expensive on a Friday night. I agree with other reviewers the bathroom is small and the bathroom sink ridiculously tiny - I think they need to remodel the bathrooms. That's why you wouldn't want to stay for long! We didn't have any problem with the shower, though. We didn't use the car park, the TV or the air-conditioning. The central courtyard with pool and palm trees adds a 1970s charm to the hotel! The breakfast was OK but is pretty basic (fine for us, though). The reception staff varied a bit. We'd stay here again as it is cheaper than the competition (the Downtowner) and the rooms have better outlooks.

Only stayed one night thank goodness. Booked a deluxe room which was to overlook the pool with a seperate bedroom. Upon check in ,staff quite curt but efficient, not what I would call friendly but that's okay. Went to our room which was a shoe box. One queen bed in it and a single, no seperate bedroom, you could hardly move. Air conditioner barley worked and was noisy ,very old type, the T.V needed to be retuned , came up on the screen, the clock was the wrong time was an hour ahead. Car parking was very tight.... And l was glad some people had left, as otherwise I would not have been able to get out....mind you medium size suv not bad normally. The front of the hotel has a smoking area which was dirty, with butts and leaves everywhere, not a good look upon arrival. Not at all what l expected, could be a great place to stay if they had quality staff that paid attention to the minor details. Would l stay there again. NO. Great location, bad car park, clean rooms with maintenance issues, staff, not the cleaners who do not care about the hotel. Spoke to other guests who all either agreed with me, or who had opposite views except the car park all agreed. It seems it is the luck of the draw here not consistent, which is a worry.

This hotel rates as a 4 star hotel. It does not even come close. It has one of the slowest and smallest lifts I have ever been in The choice for breakfast was average at best. Bathroom is so tiny u could hardly move and the shower went hold and cold. Tv was just Only good thing was bed was comfortable

Visited Melbourne for the long weekend and committed the mistake of staying at this place. Its without doubt the Wourst hotel I've stayed in Australia. Bad hygiene, tiny rooms, broken AC, broken TV... Please aviod.

Nice clean room, close to Lygon Street cafes. Reasonably priced. Light airy room and comfy bed. Stayed on a week night and was nice and quite during the night Pool looked great, lovely setting and would stay there again. Easy walk to transport and shops.

Hotel good enough for people looking for a quick staying in Melbourne for a reasonable cost-benefit. Good location, easy access to the tram stops and very near several Italian restaurants. The room I stayed was apparently freshly painted and was very smelly.

I booked my accommodation through a third party. Two days before my arrival, I rang the reception to confirm if my reservation is successful. A guy answered the phone and told me that the system is down and that he couldn't check it. He gave me an assurance that he will ring me when the system is back. I waited for the entire day and yet, there was no call at all. Two days after, I arrived at the hotel a bit earlier and since I was running late with my errands, the guy in the reception told me again that HE WILL RING me when the room is ready. Unfortunately, it was already 5pm and still no call so I decided to go back to the hotel and checked in. When I and my girlfriend were checking out on a Sunday, the receptionist (which was a lady this time) overcharged my girlfriend's credit card and we found it very inconvenient since we were already waiting there for like 30 minutes. The receptionist wasn't even smiling. We are already back Brisbane and obviously, the hotel receptionist failed to do the "I will ring you". Seriously, their staffs need customer service training.

Excellent service from the professional yet warm and friendly front desk and breakfast staff, great breakfast, extremely clean rooms, fantastic location close to city and Lygon Street, highly recommended. We stay here regularly and it never disappoints.

Stayed here whilst a family member had a procedure at the hospital down the road. To be honest it was average at best... Parking was easy and $20 per night so that was ok. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lift smelt like an old mechanics workshop and by the sound of it could have used a service, so I then tried the stairs and don't think they have been vacuumed in quite a while. Rooms were tidy and nice enough. TV had intermittent reception and bad picture quality which is pretty poor for this day and age. Shower varied between boiling hot and icy cold, I don't think I have stayed in a hotel with this problem since the 90s. Didn't eat here and many nice restaurants and cafes close by. Wasn't super cheap so for the price I would definitely pick somewhere else to stay next time.

The location is great as it's only a block away from Lygon Street and many things to do. The room itself was somewhat quirky in that the bathroom sink was the size of a shoe box in the corner and the whole bathroom wasn't much bigger. Nonetheless the front desk staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean, comfortable and quiet; all one could ask for really.

the basin in the bathroom leaves a lot to be desired.I always seem to get more water on the floor than my face when TRYING to shave!!! Also the water supply is sometimes hot sometimes cold, it is always a challenge to regulate the water temp whilst showering.

First and foremost, this is a budget motel in an excellent location, and the pool in the central courtyard is both attractive and provides pleasant white noise (which is a bonus in the city). Also, staff seemed very polite and friendly. Having said that, OH DEAR. Lift wasn't operational and nobody to help schlep luggage up stairs. We managed, but had we been any older/less fit than we are this would have presented a major problem. Room itself was basic but clean enough (and at this price point, that's pretty much my core expectation). TV had several 'lines' through it, and reception poor - not a huge issue for us, but if you really wanted to watch something it would be a problem. Used the bathroom and closed the door behind me - at which point it LOCKED! Honestly. Talk about design flaw. You shouldn't be able to lock yourself out of a bathroom! Thankfully we were ultimately able to get back in. After that excitement it was time to sleep, and again credit where it's due, the room was nice and quiet and the bed comfortable. So yeah, there's some stuff that should really be addressed, and it's not my favourite place, but it certainly beats some of the claustrophobic, dirty dog boxes that I've seen at this kind of price point in this kind of location.

The place was clean. The amenities were modern. The staff were helpful, friendly and polite. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Its proximity to the city is great and that fact that you have parking is one of the main reasons for booking. Overall, a pleasant stay

We found the staff member (Emma) who took our booking helpful with advise on parking and changing reservations if we had to for pending family reasons. On our arrival we found Morgan at the front desk helpful with directions to the movies, assistance with making reservations and finding an eating venue near the movies. Shannon was excellent on our check out with advice on transport and parking. Its an old building but the staff are great.

We had a fantastic night at the Best Western. Service was excellent, room very clean and breakfast was yummy. Also great that you can park your car for free.We are stayed before and will be staying again.

My room was very clean and spacious. Offers easy walking access to the city, major hospitals, Melbourne University and the Italian culture in Lygon Street. The hotel staff are helpful if you ask but basically keep to their budget reputation. I didn't expect more considering the tariff I paid. This is a good place to stay if you are looking for something close to the city where you are not having your wallet squeezed at every move. In Carlton car parking is scarce but Best Western offer cheap and easy access to their own carpark. The room I had was next to the lift well so there was a bit of noise from the motor that by 10:30pm was minimal. However ask for room away from the lifts.

Exceptional value for money in a great location. Lesson to all. Book direct with the hotel - the rates are still the same as elsewhere and other deals - but you get free parking included. This is not the case when you book online no matter what it says - and the staff are unable to change the situation once you arrive. Would stay here again though. Location and price definately make up for it.

We stayed here while we attended appointments at St Vincent's Hospital. Accommodation is excellent and is close enough to walk to hospital and also Lygon street if the motel Restaurant is closed . Offer great breakfasts and undercover parking( although its compact!)

Nice spot, staff friendly and great value. Close to Lygon St for food. Breakfast was yummy as well. Rooms are quite nice. Internet was a bit ordinary but wasnt a major problem. Staff on duty were all very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is in a terrific location and has very good amenities. Lygon Street, with all of its restaurants and late night venues is just around the corner and Melbourne's CBD is a few minutes away by tram. My wife and I stayed for one night and were very pleased with the quality and cleanliness of the room. There is secure parking at the hotel and both check-in and check-out were easy. Breakfast is available at the hotel although we didn't eat there on this occasion. A relatively large, kidney shaped pool is a central feature of the hotel and on a hot Summer's day it would be a very relaxing spot to spend a couple of hours. This hotel is definitely worth a visit and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The hotel is located in an ideal location, 10 mins from CBD on tram, short walk to bus and tram stops, Melbourne University and lots of restaurants and coffee shops (Brunetti is close by) in Lygon St and nearby. Woolworths (open until late) is also a short walk away. It has a pool but I was there in winter.

This Hotel has a great location for Lygon St and we have stayed here a few times. However I would like to post a warning to all staying there. Be careful when parking your car in the Hotel car park. We were there at the end of June and when we left we found brown tar like freckles all over the car that took ages to wash off and within a week had started to affect the car's paintwork. We saw the same freckles a year ago last time we stayed, but didn't think it realted to the Hotel. I am told it is due to the aircon units not being serviced properly. All I really know is that 3 weeks later I am still trying to get rid of the tar. Not good

Stayed here three days for business. When I arrived the staff gave me a code for the WiFi, a local map and a brief overview of the hotel. Checking in to the hotel was good, both the male staff at the desk were friendly and professional and worked to get me in to a room as I had just gotten off a long flight and the room they had assigned for me wasn't ready. They seemed to work well together. The girls during the evening were very polite and helped with suggestions for dinner in the local area. Some elements of the rooms where dated slightly and the reverse cycle air/heater tried to do its best during the very cold days, but the standard is there. Breakfast was basic but good. Checking out was easy as I had pre-paid when I booked on the website and handed over my room key. It was everything I needed. Recommend.

This hotel is well sited for Lygon street. The room was comfortable but a little on the small side, as was the shower room which had minimal bench space for toiletries. The lift was out of order for part of our stay. There were great croissants and pastries at breakfast.

Shower just kept getting colder, very Unsatisfying. Old reverse cycle air conditioner was very noisy when it started up and woke us up, but it was too cold in the room to switch it off. Servicing of the room was inadequate as rubbish was not removed, impossible to watch the TV as it required moving the chest of draws it was sitting on in order to see. Four star rating is ridiculous.

I spent close to a week in this hotel last week. Close to the university and the Lygon strip of so-so Italian eateries, so convenient for visitors to campus. On the second day got a strain on my shirt from a soiled ironing board. The management was good enough to send the shirt out for dry cleaning at no cost to me. But the heating is poor, there is a shower but no bathtub, and the internet stinks. Several times I lost connection and had to call some agency called Freedom Internet. Freedom From Internet, rather.

A great choice within walking distance of the Nova Cinema, Lygon St restaurants, and supermarkets. Just don't get room 101 next to the lift. Parking is secure but WiFi is extra. Rooms are a little small but we'll appointed.

Our room was small and dated, needs a makeover urgently. I was here 10 years ago and I don't think it has changed one bit. Also found the staff to be rude and not at all friendly. For the price, crap and not at all worth it. The only thing going for it is the location

Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms comfortable and spacious. They are well presented and clean . Central location, walking distance to shops and restaurants. Breakfast is always hardy and tasty. Having onsite parking that you don't have to pay for is very appealing.

An extra $20 was charged to park the car.I have stayed here before andparking was included in the price.Not anymore. The male on the desk was quite rude about it and told me to read the fine print. I won't be staying here again. Better hotels in the area for a more reasonable price.

For the money we paid I don't think it was worth it at all. Even when booking over the phone the staff weren't friendly at all. Upon arrival staff were unfriendly, unwelcoming, unhelpful and just plain rude. Room wasn't very nice, seemed very rundown, no PowerPoints in the second room which was an inconvenience, safe was broken, one of the tv remotes had dead batteries which hotel staff couldn't replace til the next day. When we went to the desk at one stage the male staff member (younger man with dark hair) didn't even look up from the computer when talking to us. Good points were we couldn't hear anybody from nearby rooms, or outside noises and the maids were quiet and did a good job. Gentleman upon checkout was nice and polite.

This is a perfectly reasonable hotel with good rates in a fantastic location, however it isn't even attempting to be a 4 star hotel, to say nothing of achieving it. The rooms are very ordinary, with plastic fixtures and smelly carpets, the staff are professional but seem very used to boisterous tour groups and are quite curt as a result, the rooms are provided with cheap instant coffee, and the breakfasts are identical each day, and are truly atrocious - watery eggs, rock hard croissants, concentrated fruit juices, and Woolworths sliced bread for toast. We stayed a week while attending a function at the university, and given the location and rates we weren't at all disappointed (even if we did have to forgo the couldn't-pay-me-to-eat-it breakfast and eat on Lygon Street). However we certainly wouldn't recommend it to a holidaymaker if you actually *do* have a 4 Star experience in mind!

I see Shannon the front counter staff is mentioned in a few reviews unfavourably. I have to agree. My wifi wasn't working when I arrived and when I asked for help his response was 'well, you'll just have to ask support'! Without giving any clues as to who support was. He then ignored me when I mentioned room phone wasn't working. Manager heard this and agreed it was inappropriate behaviour but didn't elaborate on what he would do. The phone was never fixed. Also milk in fridge was frozen and disappeared altogether after day 1 - after condescending attitude of Shannon on arrival I didn't bother reporting, I just wont be back.

Very happy with the accommodation at best western travel inn for my birthday weekend with family. So close to the museum and Lyon street. Only a short tram ride into the city and Bourke at mall! :) Breakfast buffet every morning was delicious and if you wanted something else they would cook it for you.

- 3rd time here and I do not know why I keep bothering! - Stayed here 2 nights to attend the NRL Anzac Day match. - They advertised Fox Sports 1 but could not receive it in our room, spoke to MICHAEL twice at reception about getting this rectified, he was dismissive both times and at checkout it was still not working. I wanted to watch other NRL games before we went in to AAMI Park. - Noisy room overlooking the carpark - Buffett was empty before 9, was left with just eggs & croissants. - Girls in the restaurant were pleasant.

We only stayed one night and the room was clean and comfortable, but the shower and bathroom sink was very tiny. There was not much room in the shower. Overall the stay was good value since I booked online for a very cheap rate.

If the hotel was classed as a 3 star or even 3 & 1/2 star I could have rated higher but I cannot justify giving it a higher rating as a 4 star hotel because it just doesn't quite make the grade. PROS: We booked a king-size room, the bed was comfortable, blackout curtains were great, good location close to the action in Lygon St, pool looked good although we didn't use it. Cons: Hotel layout felt 'old-school motel' style, room was small, bathroom was tiny and very basic.

Room was much smaller that indicated and what we thought - quite cramped! Location was good which compensated for the small room. The car park was $20 cost for motel parking which was not worth it as it was dirty with rubbish lying around. The TV was not tuned on all stations and was difficult to tune so didn't bother. Went through Hotels.com and had a choice of Quest or this re value for money - next time will be Quest which was a few doors up and has cheaper parking.

Very nice and comfortable, close to Lygon street for shopping eating coffee all just around the corner. Close to the city. Buffet breakfast was very nice, even though it was very busy they kept the supply of hot food coming.

We only stayed one night and found the room to be clean and well maintained. The room looked down on an enclosed area but there was not traffic noise so very quiet. The buffet breakfast was included in our deal and was great with fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, muffins and croissants along with the bacon, eggs, tomatoes etc. The staff were all lovely and friendly. The pool area looked amazing and the water temp felt good when I felt it with my hand but didn't go in. With the tables and chairs surrounding it is a nice place to chat with drinks and nibblies! We had our own car so parking there was great and very close to Lygon Street for yummy food. Literally a 3 min walk. Also a bottle shop in Lygon Street and big cinema complex too just in case you run out of things to do!

Just stayed here recently booked via the Groupon promo. We were given the ground floor next to the pool. Room was much smaller than we envision from the pictures, bathroom was definitely small, clean and bareable. Bed was comfy with a small oldish style tv. Ask for higher floor to avoid the pool noise and a bit more privacy. Front desk service was average. Our room keys both didn't work so I had to go back to front desk 3 times. No offer of apologies or them coming after the first notice of an issue. Groupon package included a bottle of wine, I wasn't offered this and I forgot too. The location is a big plus for this place. It's walking distance to Lygon St (for late night dining) and CBD. Breakfast was ok but the service was really good. The ladies are all cheerful and don't mind helping answer guest questions about the neighbourhood. Would I stay here again? I'm haphazard to say yes considering Melb has a lot of great accommodation. If I were to come back it'll be for a max 2 nights as the room is really more a single per size. Warning: the basement parking is SUPER tight. I don't recommend a med or large size car unless you're super good at tight turns.

The front desk staff was unfriendly and indifferent. Didn't look professional. There was a lot of noise from the street, and the room facilities need upgrade. I booked this hotel on bookings.com and it had a very high rate, but the information was misleading. I was staying there because i I had meetings at Melbourne Uni. It is walking distance from there. Next time I travel for meetings at the Uni, I will stay somewhere else. The location was good, but that was it for me.

On arrival we had to struggle up the steps with our cases. Location is ok for eating but not for the city centre. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were average. Some of the staff were attentive, however, Shannon on the front desk was patronising to the point of being rude.

Had a three night stay for work and this hotel was booked for me. It was very conveniently located to Lygon Street (one short block away) and all the fasbulous dining experiences there. Also the University of Melbourne was about a 5 minute walk. The surroundings were quiet and the room very clean and comfortable. I found that there was a lot of light coming under my door at night (as did a few other colleagues) and it did distract from getting to sleep. The buffet breakfast and service was great with a good selection of hot and cold food, juices, fruit and cereals. The internet was crap however - the login details appear to be out of date with anything that popped up on my devices. I couldn't log in at all over the three nights and the reception staff were not aware that it was different to the flyer we were given about wifi service. I also think that hotels of this size (and cost) should provide free wifi instead of outsourcing it for a fee that the customer pays. For example, if the frozen yoghurt shop I went to can offer free wifi so can Best Western for a three night stay!!

Great place to stay, located convenient to.everything, 15 min walk to city, imax, lygon st. Beautiful little pool, quaint courtyard. Inly bummer is u have to pay for wifi, but theres a free computer in the lobby to use. But they shoukd have free wifi in the lobby. While the breakfast was sensational, massive range of hot and cold, definitely one of the better breakfast spreads. There werent enough staff, the two women were very friendly and efficient but they struggled to clear plates. They should just have the coffee out for people to pour their own, rather than the staff coming round to pour it. People waited for up to 15 mins to be seated. So not really good there... especially when u want to get on with ur day. Free newspaper s which is great. Mcg 5 min walk to the mecca!!

We stayed here in March for two nights on a groupon voucher. This hotel is very clean has all the basics and comfortable beds. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was basic but delicious and the staff accommodated when we asked for poached eggs. The pool area was relaxing and it felt like we were in the tropics. The location was very good, close to lygon st and not to far away from public transport. We hope to go back again one day.

The room was clean and well maintained. A short walk to free trams to city. Great location to Lygon Street restaurants. Staff helpful and friendly. The hotel itself was basic with limited restaurant opening hours. But this is to be expected with a small hotel. The pool area is lovely.

We had a fantastic stay here, the staff were very helpful, the room was comfortable and Had everything we needed. The area was close walking distance to the city and to the gardens & museum. Also the best places to eat in the fabulous Lygon. St.

We were surprised by how nice the rooms are. The outside isn't much to look at but the rooms are perfectly comfortable. Fantastic location for lygon street. A bit of a walk to trams. Showers are awesome too.

We stayed for 2 nights at this property in a deluxe room with a full breakfast included. The room was very clean and nice and large with a lounge, coffee table bar fridge and desk in the room. The bed was firm but very comfortable and pillows were good quality. The room had an iron and ironing board. The full breakfast was excellent and had plenty of choice. Staff were welcoming in the morning and showed you to your table and took orders for barista coffees. The hotel was very close to the Carlton gardens and the Melbourne Museum. Transport into the city was easy with the tram at Swanston St just a short walk away. There were lots of choice for dining in Lygon St which was only a block away. We were able to park our car at the hotel during our stay and use the public transport to get around.

The good points of this hotel is that the rooms are spacious and quiet and the bed is comfortable although the pillows were quite hard. There is onsite parking and there is a pool which looks quite nice. I was staying here on my own as I was working so I was hoping for a quick meal and bed. I had to wait at the onsite restaurant for a while before I was seen to and I was informed that they were fully booked and they don't offer room service for dinner. I ordered room service for breakfast however it never arrived and I had placed the order on my door knob 3 hours before the cut off time - when I went out to check in the morning, my order was still hanging in the door. I am not a hard to please guest but I found some of the staff particularly unhelpful - the reception lady was tucked in the back office so you had to call out to get her attention every time and she wasn't particularly helpful with regards to dinner. Most places I stay at I will inform me if they are fully booked when I check in and provide helpful information on alternatives. There did appear to be lots of tourists so maybe they are better at looking after them. If you are on business and like to be able to eat on site this is not the place to stay. I won't be returning.

We booked 2 mths ago, I had a Deluxe twin room, by the Moomba Weekend rooms were quite expensive. 1 Night away..... Rooms were spotless! Air con worked great, quite muggy, over looked the pool. Lygon St is a block away and we went there for lunch, dinner, breakfast the next morning. They do have a restaurant. I will use this Motel again if I stay in the City. Staff were excellent, friendly. There is a small area by the pool and out front for us poor smokers. Rooms are non-smoking. Shower was great, pressure was good, but luckily I am quick because it seemed to turn cold a bit too quick. I was with 2 other families who also said their rooms were spotless and they will stay again. Book early, you will not regret it, right on the edge of the City.

My husband and I spent one evening in a spa room located on the 1st floor overlooking Victoria Lake. Beautiful outlook, however the outside temperature was 38+ so we keep the lovely heavy curtains closed the majority of the time to block out the hot afternoon sun. Well appointed, clean and spacious room. Plenty of clothes hangers in the wardrobe and plenty of room for storing luggage. Really enjoyed the option of seating, all of which was comfy, as was the king size bed, nice and firm. Great service upon check in and check out. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely stay here, the room was very good lovely and clean and I was very happy to find a sheet to sleep under on the bed and not just a doona It was in a great position for walking to Lygon street and all the eateries it was also great to have safe parking at no cost a very rare thing indeed

Wow, the other day at the Best Western Carlton I encountered the rudest hotel staff member I've ever dealt with since a trip to Russia. I wasn't even at guest at the hotel, just went to pick up someone staying there. I inquired at the desk and the guy staffing it "Shannon," told me she wasn't staying at the hotel. He was very abrupt. I asked him to check by her first name, but he insisted definitively "I am adamant that there's no one here by that name." I went away to check that I wasn't mistaken about the hotel. I had to ask a second time and then on the third try another staff member pointed out that she had been at the hotel and had just checked out. Instead of apologizing for not finding her in the first place, he made a sarcastic remark to the effect that I should have specifically asked if he was at the hotel or had checked out. When I told him I thought he was being extremely rude, he told me that what I was saying was slander!

We purchased an internet package for this hotel at a very cheap rate with a few inclusions including breakfast. Our room was on the ground floor just metres from a small central swimming pool and courtyard area. the room was refurbished and of a very good standard. Our room also had a window onto the road which I thought would make it a bit noisy......honestly didnt hear a thing, very quiet and the road outside is not a main road so no dramas about noise at this hotel. Bathroom was very roomy. No free wifi. Buffet breakfast was served from 7 until 9 (on a sunday morning) I felt that was a very short window for a weekend. A nice array of decent food on offer, 5 hot dishes plus pastries, cereals, juices, yoghurts and fruits. All we cooked nicely, fresh and kept topped up. Free newspapers available at reception. Restaurant is open during the week closed on weekend nights but a short stroll around the corner gets you to Lygon Street (eat Street). We ate at the University Hotel and was very pleased with their selection and prices.

Friendly hotel in excellent location. Visit Melbourne frequently for work and this hotel makes being away from home easy. Parking available. Breakfast good. Rooms comfortable and staff friendly and professional. And in a great part of Melbourne.

All in all a good experience with all that I would expect in the standard of accommodation (unlike a recent stay at Best Western - Launceston) with friendly and attentive staff. Trouble with connecting to wifi through hotel's third party provider; which isn't the first time with that provider. Easy walking distance to parkland and the Muesum. Good tram service to the city a short walk away.

This place is great, inexpensive and just what you want from a Best Western. Rooms were clean, bathroom clean, beds comfortable. There's a pool which would have been great to try if we had more time. This is a great location if you don't want to be right in the cbd but within walking distance. Also around the corner from the Calrton cafes and restaurants.

Very clean and spacious room, we were so happy we couldn't hear noises from the street. Sheets and towels clean as was the floors. Desk service was wonderful, and the lovely staff offered and suggested places to go. The only negative feedback I can give is the Bar downstairs is closed on Fri and Sat nights....I am very baffled as this would be very well accommodated. I know Lygon Street is around the corner with all the fabulous resturants and eateries, but not everyone is wanting to go out after a long day on their feet. I will definitely stay again and highly recommend this establishment to all my friends. We wish to say hello to Nell, who was just charming and a great asset to the hotel.

This hotel is one of my favourites to stay in when wanting to eat on Lygon St. Ask for a room off the street as the noise on some nights can be a problem, other nights not so. I have suggested to them to double glaze the rooms across the front. I haven't used the pool but have breakfast when I stay and I always enjoy it. They have also looked after me for price when I have had family in St Vincent's Hospital which is a short walk away.

The location of this hotel is excellent, especially for those who are going out for a meal in Lygon Street. At $15 per night, parking is provided at a reasonable cost, however the car park itself was a little pokey. For the cost, the room was adequate for our needs; neat, clean and well appointed but it was the bare minimum in size. The bathroom was a little cosy, especially the shower – the bathroom door was glass making it a little annoying if you need to use it in the middle of the night, as it lights up the whole room. Internet costs were exorbitant. At $7.50 per hour this is out of kilter with like establishments. Our room was on the third floor on the Drummond Street side. Tip – ask for a room that's not on the street side as it can be a little noisy when you are trying to sleep. Though we couldn't see the pool, our room was off the balcony that overlooked the pool area, which was very nice. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Overall, a good place to stay if you are visiting Lygon Street or surrounds. Just avoid using the internet so that you don't incur high charges.

The suite room I was given was spacious and clean with basic amenities. Pillows and bed were comfortable. The free breakfast had a spread that accommodates different dietary requirements but the buffet spread was basically the same everyday. What stood out in my experience though was the poor customer service. I called for help for two nights, and both times was told they couldn't help me with the problem. No effort at all to go and check the room physically.

This is the second time I am staying in this hotel and my evaluation is still good. Clean, comfortable, close to the CBC and a large variety of good restaurants in Lygon street. Has a heated swimming pool and the inner court is quiet and fresh, ideal for relaxing,

just off Lygon street, walking distance to hundreds restaurants and beautiful Brunetti, room ar good size and the service at the front desk is excellent I am a regoular client and I stay there for a week at least every second month

I stayed with my children. They loved the pool but it was cold not heated. A glass had been broken by the pool and I asked 3 times before it was cleaned up the following morning. We just made it for breakfast although not knowing it was about to finish we didn't rush. Without warning staff came out to clear all the food away. Considering there were only 1 other table there, they could've given us a heads up that it was about to finish. Room was clean but bathroom very small. Great location with Lygon st one street away. Also one street from the museum and imax.

As with the other reviews, I found the location to be ideal. Rest of the hotel was average; about what I expected. It is not very clear how to get out of the gated parking garage; the door is automatic on the way in but not on the way out. There was a small sign indicating the room key was required but it wasn't clear where it should be scanned. Not sure what you are supposed to do when you're trying to leave after you've checked out and returned your key (as was my case). Thankfully there were some other guests on foot having the same issue and they managed to get the staff to open it. Overall, I'd probably stay again, mostly for the location.

This property is showing its age a little but its location in the heart of Carlton and proximate to Carlton gardens is a plus. The rooms are clean and comfortable but just a little tired. The bathroom had been fairly recently refurbished and is clean an modern but tiny.

Great location, Lygon st just around the corner, trams within walking distance. Rooms recently refurbished, very clean and well presented , Buffett breakfast is excellent, great selection available. Highly recommended

Hotel in great location very clean staff helpful, nice linen, and towels bathroom small but modern, pool, parking overnight was an extra cost not mentioned on booking, easy to get too aami if u have a driver only about 10 mins, Lyons street was great dining and has all the basic stores needed, happy with hotel!

Where are these positive reviews coming from?!? Old decor, cold pool, detatched desk staff (if they are even there), and a terrible breakfast (there are loads of other great options on every corner, don't eat here). Maybe I'm asking too much. What's that, you expect your phone to work? Too bad, it doesn't. The bathrooms are so small, you feel like you are on an airplane and the housekeeping is lazy (no new towels and a half made bed). Really can't think of anything positive to say about this place. If you do decide to stay here, ask for a room away from the street. There is traffic and pedestrian noise all night. The outdated fridges will click loudly on and off all night, for extra charm.

I stayed here on a Thursday evening with a friend and although this is a older style hotel it ticked all the boxes. Everything was nice and clean, comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was simple but delicious. They even let us leave the car in their underground the next day as we had an event to attend. The location is fantastic. I'll definitely remember this place for next time we're in the city.

Good value for a hotel in this location. The rooms have been done up nicely and are very comfortable. As it's an older hotel that is done up - there is a 1950's feel about the place when you're walking to your room past the groovy pool area. The rooms have everything you need and there is parking under the building. There was free wifi, but I didn't use it, so not sure what it was like. I would stay here again.

2 night stay THE GOOD - Fresh & Clean - Close to Lygon Street - Underground car parking - Housekeeping THE BAD - Rude staff (on check-in & restaurant) - Thin walls - Tiny room - Bottle of wine supplied to room, no wine glasses - Shocking breakfast menu - Noisy - LCD was blurry On check-in (23/11/15 1400) I was greeted by an unpleasant young fella who had appeared to be coming to the end of his shift and I was a burden for checking in, good start. The room was clean but extremely small, no room to move (decent bathroom though) with paper thin walls, our neighbours were getting raunchy not one but both nights! :O For breakfast the first morning we arrived to a cranky female waitress who pointed us to a table and asked if we wanted a tea or coffee and I said a cappa would be great! With a snarly face she replied 'well that will be extra!' No worries! The breakfast selection was a disgrace with only the option of scrambled eggs & bacon for a hot breakfast! They also had a Chinese touring group who were coming in for breakfast in dribs and drabs and were trying to sit down when the same girl violently pointed to the waiting area (as it appeared their tour guide wasn't there and no or little English was spoken) demanding them to wait, it was a half full restaurant!! Just because they don't have one large table for them surely they could pick a table and have their breakfast where there was room! An absolute disgrace! My Chinese friend was interpreting them saying that 'she is not nice.' I was trying to tell him to help and interpret what she (the waitress) was saying to the tour group but he said he did not know what to say as he could not explain why they were not allowed to be seated when there was half an empty restaurant. The second day we were greeted by the girl with attitude, surprise nothing has changed! A bit more on offer today with poached eggs, baked beans, tomato, scrambled eggs & bacon. The only problem was this time we were directed to a table and getting ready to eat when it appeared we were in someone's seat! OOPS! Very average stay, glad I got a deal on this one ;) ???? 3/10

My wife and I recently spent a total of nights at this property which is brilliantly located in Drummond Street in Carlton and a 2 minute walk to Lygon Street with all the excellent food outlets and restaurants. The hotel has attached parking which is you book directly with the hotel is free. Reception staff are helpful and friendly. The rooms are of variable size but are clean and comfortable. In our first room ( for a one night stay) there was a pretty small bathroom with sliding door but the view out to the terraced houses on Drummond was nice. On our return for 2 nights, we had a larger room at the rear of the hotel which was quieter but limited views of rooftops and a/c units. But the room was much larger and the bathroom much bigger also. Basic amenities are provided and the rooms are cleaned daily. There is a small outdoor heated pool and a bar and restaurant. We found this to be an excellent location for Carlton and surrounds and an easy 20 minute walk to the central CBD or a 5 minute tram ride. Very adequate for a busy trip to Melbourne with lots of eating places nearby and no real need for a car.

The best thing about BW Plus is its location. Grattan Street is a cross street with Lygon, near Faraday Street and all the cool food, wine and shops that you may want. A few odd things like charging machine coffees to your room with the breakfast deal - or you could have instant - and the shower head which pointed between my shoulder blades. I'm not tall and think you would have to be under 5' to wash your head without squatting. If you need a bed and clean space to sleep and wash, BW Plus is perfectly adequate. BTW, their is a very cool bar diagonally across the road called The Town Mouse.

Booked 2 nights here, a Friday and Saturday night. The hotel was buzzing. Chose this due to its proximity to Lygon street, the pool available for use, the car parking provided and the buffet breakfast. Was more than impressed, this place is seriously the best restaurant we've stayed at, the staff are extremely friendly and always go out of their way to help with a smile. Special mention to the restaurant manager Val who was an absolute delight, she should win customer service awards many times over. The way in which she handled the busy morning breakfast rushes on both Saturday and Sunday morning left us astounded. She's a real asset to the hotel. The room we stayed in was a Deluxe room, which has a queen bed and an LCD TV. The car parking was part of the deal we had, so was very convenient. Finding parking wasn't an issue at all. I would definitely choose the Travel Inn the next time I stay in this area, their service is second to none. Definitely recommended.

Great setting. Lovely hotel, perfectly styled. Rooms had everything you would expect in a 4 star hotel. Staff went above and beyond. Car parking was a real bonus. Location was great, easy access to main roads around the city. No to mention a short walk awY from the city centre. I will definitely be back when working in the area.

Pleasantly surprised - fabulous position right next to Lygon St, great room, very clean, friendly and helpful staff, internet worked well. Parking was tricky (tight spaces, full on weekend nights) bit we found street parks as long as we left early in the morning. Would definitely stay again. Really did "fit the bill".

Stayed here for the AFL Grand final weekend. Room price is reasonable. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We had breakfast included which was okay. But could have used a coffee machine as this was not self service.

Very disappointed with our visit here and did not enjoy our time. The room had a very strange layout and felt thrown together we also had the unfortunate experience with an especially uncomfortable bed. The walls were paper thin and felt very uncomfortable listening to our neighbours conversations all evening. For the price we were paying I was expecting quality, will not recommend to friends and will probably save the extra dollars staying further out of town as the location was not extremely beneficial.

Have stayed here many times when visiting Melbourne. Location is fantastic close to everything either by foot or tram. Rooms are clean. Bathroom a little small. Ask for a room in the far wing. These are larger and quieter. No ramp at entrance.. Need to drag cases up the stairs. Breakfast always good. Restaraunt s hardly open. But there are many top notch eateries nearby. Staff are hit and miss on friendliness and service. Worth the stay.

Great motel with great deals. The room was clean and the staff were very pleasant. The only hitch was not being told about the $15 parking fee until check out (and being told it was clearly written on last minute but clearly it wasn't that clear) ... But still overall it's a nice place to stay close to the action.

First time here and very impressed.The location is great and close to the CBD. The rooms were large, comfortable and very clean. Nice shower and bathroom. Certainly value for money here and I would definitely stay here again.
