"Great value for the money"

Hanan H, Kfar Saba, Israel 04/05/2019

Was there for one night -good place, nice rooms , decent meal and over all a place I will return again. 15 min drive from airport and a walking distance from industrial zone and other places on interest in Mechelen

valtango, De Haan, Belgium 14/01/2019

Close to the city center so very handy. The room was very nice. Comfortable bed. I found the grey rather drab and office like, but that is just a question of taste, many people prefer that. Everything as it should be. Friendly receptionist, room was clean, and a comfortable bed, which is most important. So nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. You don't find that too often in Belgium, and you do need a cuppa on arrival after a journey. Bathroom door was a bit stiff, but again that wasn't a problem as such. It was nice, and a good price, I am sure we will be back.

"Practical for Business Trips"

georggoetzelmann, Stuttgart, Germany 12/01/2019

The Gulden Anker outside the Ring Road on a corner of a busy crossroads offers adequate accommodations for a stopover or a business trip. A bit old-fashioned rooms, small bathrooms, quiet, if looking over the backside courtyard, loud, if towards the street. Restaurant with food of changing quality. Excellent starter with surf and turf of crevettes with pork belly, then average steak with some of the worst french fries I ever have had in Belgium, the Mekka of pommes frites in Europe! Dissappointing! Fair prices for the room, overpriced breakfast and dinner restaurant prices. My rate: 3 stars maximum, not 4 as indicated in HRS or

"Less than average "

adaajoku, Leamington Spa, United Kingdom 30/12/2018

I've stayed in a few Best Western hotels and whilst I don't expect five star accommodation, I do expect a level of comfort above that which you would get in a hostel. The hallway had a strong(strange) stench similar to fresh paint. The room felt small and very claustrophobic. On the first night, the room next door had an unattended dog who barked until very late. You could also hear pretty much every foot step along the small corridor. I could also hear the shower from another bedroom at about midnight. The only redeeming factor was that the lady at reception offered two free drinks by way of an apology for the disruption caused by the dog. I wouldn't be staying here again and would have left after the first night if Mechelen wasn't so busy.

"Decent BW in Mechelen"

beren00, Brest, France 04/11/2018

The hotel is pretty nice and parking was easy enough. There is a restaurant that we didn't go to. The hotel was quiet and the staff was accomodating. Overall, it wasn't a bad hotel experience and the price was good.

"Very clean room, friendly staff"

User 30/10/2018

Location was nice, easy to get to. The neighborhood allowed for a nice walking tour with good food and shopping. Staff was friendly. Lounge was well stocked with beverages and snacks. Room was clean and comfortable.

"Good Hotel not disappointed "

MWHertfordshire, Barnet 10/09/2018

We stayed for 2 nights for a sporting event and some sight seeing. We arrived at 23.00 hrs and was greeted with a friendly face and a nice welcome. We had comfortable beds for myself, husband and 9 yr old. Free water, tea, coffee and toiletries. Small fridge was useful to keep some snacks in. Hotel room was warm but fine for this time of year as we could open windows for some air. Room was nicely decorated , clean and nice white towels. A short 10 min walk into beautiful Mechelen - lovely bakeries, restaurants and cathedral. We found somewhere for breakfast in Mechelen (Beans) All in all a comfortable stay and a good base to explore

Thanks for staying with us!

"Worst hotel,doesnt deserve a 3 star rating."

rhythma87, New Delhi, India 18/08/2018

My visit was here during tomorrowland when there was 35 degrees outside, and the a.c wasnt working, they gave us a very tall and narrow fan which can give air only to a single part of body, i regretted every single second staying here, though the train station and bus station is 1.5-2 km away. And i selected this hotel for this reason only, but dont repeat my mistake, also the manager is really rude,he doesnt knows the meaning of hospitality.

"Great hotel"

j00st78, Sofia, Bulgaria 18/07/2018

Good hotel, friendly staff at the reception. The check in and out were easy and extremely helpful. The Room 105 was my room and it was clean, modern and despite being on the side of the road very quiet.

User 30/05/2018

Air conditioning wasn't working... with just 25 degrees outside it was impossible to sleep in the room. The staff was saying that they will eventually fix it.. when.. nobody knows. Poor breakfast. Very old furnitures. Smelly closets. Sorry... no

"Hotel average, but restaurant first rate"

roysJ3627DL, Salisbury, United Kingdom 31/01/2018

First impressions - I felt a little bit neglected on arrival; the reception desk was empty (but the receptionist arrived on the bell). The room was a bit niffy but nothing I couldn't get used to. But - it was cold - the room heating did not work; I had to sit in my coat all evening. (It was a cold and rainy winter's day outside). And the pillow on the bed was too plump to be comfortable. However - the restaurant connected to the hotel was very good indeed and very welcoming; the menu choice was a little restricted but the food excellent and good value. And the local beer that I consumed with the meal was outstanding. Would I stay here again? Yes - probably. I am sure that when the weather is good it would make an excellent base for exploring this lovely town.

"Good location, good breakfast"

rizam2018, Mechelen, Belgium 02/01/2018

Good location, about 1 km to reach the Grote Markt,(centrum), church and shops and about 2.5 km to get to the Kazerne Dossin museum. I think it is a safe area. We had good buffet breakfast. Only con was the noise coming from the upper floor. We stayed in the room on the ground floor.

"Tired hotel and needs improvement "

User 14/09/2017

I would not recommend this hotel, there must be better maintained and staffed establishments locally! Smell of smoke in the corridors and the restaurant was closed. Not what I would have expected for the price.

"Worst Best Western Ever"

User 19/07/2017

It is hard for me to write a negative review about one of my favorite chain hotels but this hotel here is really bad. Air condition did not work. We opened the window but found Spiders on the inside and outside of the window and have the video and photos to prove it. We are stuck here as we got here a little late and it's hard to pick up and change the hotels in the middle of the night. Have not had a chance to try their restaurant or room service but the restaurant was closed when we got here at 9pm and so was the bar. Front desk did not take my reward number and told me to give it to the morning clerk. Beds are very low to the ground and very very soft and sagging as compared to other BW hotels we stayed in. Hard to find good hotels in Europe comparable to US standards or even Mexican standards. OK that is all good night

JankanHH, Hua Hin, Thailand 29/06/2017

Small old room and A/C not working water in shower not hot B/F Basic but with fresh orangejuice. We paid Euro 183 for our room very expensive for this kind of room. Parking was easy was lucky to have one of 3 spots on the canalside of the hotel. Wifi was good.

"Awaiting refund & apology"

K5763TZbens, Wallington, United Kingdom 28/06/2017

Air con didn't work on hottest day of year. Room was like a sauna. Awaiting refund for poorly equipped room and horrible stay. No real apology and gave us a fan which just circulated warm air Fridge broken on arrival so nowhere to store chilled drinks.

"Clean and friendly, but nothing special"

Greyping, Birmingham, United Kingdom 30/05/2017

The bed was comfortable, staff friendly (organised a fan because the air conditioning was broken) and the cleaning satisfactory. The hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the city centre. I had not booked breakfast, so I cannot comment on that. A bit unfortunate was that the air conditioning, the mini bar fridge, safe, and short toilet flush, all did not work. It was very hot in the room because of air conditioning failure (in the hotel as a whole), and this was not fixed during my 4-night stay. Although the hotel is okay for a stay, I do not feel that this is "average" for a four stars hotel.

"Average 4-Star-Hotel"

Michael F, Langenselbold, Hessen, Germany 21/02/2017

Rooms are OK, location is good at the entrance to the old town, free parking nearby. Breakfast does not meet the standards of a 4-star-hotel: Small selection of bread cover, everything short, no refill of food (e.g. no rolls, no orange juice, and so on). Ordered fright eggs but scrampeld eggs were served, and son ....

"Good place to stay"

tomcat1956, Kansas 25/01/2017

Stayed here two nights on a business trip. I would be happy to stay here again if I return to Mechelen. There's nothing spectacular at all about this hotel, but it's quiet, clean and reasonably-priced. The breakfast buffet is very good. Located a mile or so from the train station, so it's a bit of a hike, but there is a bus stop a block away. It's a 15-minute walk to the main town square or youi can take a bus there as well.

"OK for a short stay"

hsmel, UK 04/10/2016

Comfortable bed and very friendly staff are the upside. Downside is the lack of parking (its quite hard to find somewhere nearby to park even out of the busy season), little bit dated ... the bedroom was ok but the bathroom very tiny and shower not very good. Public areas downstairs fine but corridors and stairwells very in need of a bit of tlc. We thought breakfast was included and that was our downfall . . we had to leave the hotel each day by 7.30 am so just grabbed and orange juice and croissant only to be charged 60 euros for breakfast when leaving!

"Bad management"

User 28/09/2016

Have 3 rooms for smokers end they give me one of those rooms... and I never smoke. They do not care, they do not ask. The room smells horible. Bad room, bad management. I can't give 0 rating so I rated 1.

"Ideal stay durig Tomorrowland"

Knud B, Skive, Denmark 25/07/2016

Nice small hotel ideally located between Antwerpen and Brussels, and close to Tomorrowland in Boom. 24 hour service and very friendly and helpful reception. Nice breakfast. Located right next to the canal.

"Good Hotel"

John16752024, Portland, Oregon 02/07/2016

My wife and I stayed here two nights. The main room and bathroom were very spacious. Unfortunately, the beds were not very comfortable for either of us. The air conditioning was difficult to control and the room was either too hot or too cold. The breakfast was a bit disappointing and no baguette bread was available. Parking is a problem at this hotel. The free parking is three blocks away and a bit of a challenge to get to. While there is what amounts to a 15 minute "loading zone" in front of the hotel, that restriction is not enforced and it was difficult to load our luggage on our day of departure. We had to park across the street from the hotel and park in a no parking area in front of someone's garage door. I would not stay here again.

"Excellent service, hotel is a little bit dated but clean and very well located.”"

elisabeth_georgiadis, Brussels, Belgium 01/06/2016

?When you receive your confirmation you will get a different adress then the one you have to put in the GPS. The correct adress can be found on the site of the hotel. The hotel is surely a bit dated for its 4 stars, the room is small and so is the bathroom, the bed is very soft and the pillows are too high, but the kindness of the people there made us enjoy our stay and we will certainly return for a stay, even if I am taking my own pillow next time. ?The people at the reception were extremely friendly and the offered us a lot of extra information in the area. There are parking spots around the hotel and even a few private spots for guests. We left the car there and went to for a walk in the city center which is very near.

"Excellent place to sleep in Mechelen"

Christian L, Neerpelt, Belgium 25/12/2015

After a Christmas evening with our children, we slept in the Gulden Anker last night. We know the place and the quality of service remains at a high level. The room is not specially luxurious but perfectly clean and the beds are very long and comfortable. The temperature in the bathroom was perfect. Buffet breakfast is perfect with much choice. Just the place to be, if you want high level comfort, perfect welcome and many amenities. The WiFi worked well in the room.

"Nice hotel"

Skeldergate, York, UK 05/12/2015

We stayed here for one night - a Friday. Arrival into Mechelen was by train and it took us about 20'minutes to walk to the Gulden Anker. Our room was on the ground floor - near to reception. It was tastefully decorated. However, there was some noise from reception and other guests. WiFi was free and worked well. Breakfast the following morning was good with a nice selection of hot and cold items. All the staff we encountered spoke English. It took us about ten minutes to walk from the hotel into central Mechelen.

"Not bad but a bit "characterful""

User 12/10/2015

Not bad but not 4 star. I came by car and discovered that the parking is on street which the web site doesn't mention. Also experienced the crazy road junction outside the hotel. When sitting in the restaurant I noticed the statue of a nubile naked young lady in the middle of the junction. I'm surprised anyone gets through it alive ! The room was nice enough with a view over the canal but there was an odd drains smell pervading the corridors. I was also lucky enough to be propositioned by a large and drunk Belgian lady in the restaurant which enlivened things a bit ?( I declined her offer)

"A warm atmosphere"

Livia M, Constanta, Romania 25/09/2015

I can't pinpoint exactly what made this hotel feel so welcoming. I'll just give a list of small details that stood out as signs of attention from the staff: - the reception was truly helpful - the lovely lady that mantained a spotless breakfast buffet - with the brisk manners and efficiency; in the first day I asked for a bigger glass (I drink a lot of fresh orange juice mixed with water in the morning) - and she placed one near the juicemaker the next morning when she saw me arrive - the restaurant view is towards a crossroad - and peoplewatching (biker-watching actually) was mesmerizing - soft beds, comfy pillows, nice furniture, fast wi-fi The room had the slight smell of being smoked in; but it really looked good and it didn't disturb me enough to ask for another one. I came to Mechelen by train and chose this hotel because, from the trains station to it's location - it had the simplest route. It was a lucky choice: if I opted for a more central hotel - I would have had to watch my troller's wheels diminish (the other roads are paved but from the train station to the hotel I found a smooth one and the distance can be walked in 15 minutes). It's located at the margins of the historical centre and the road to the Central Market is lovely. It's quiet but busy. You'll understand this only if your familiar with the bike-life-style so popular in this area: no noise, just people. No spectacular view - you have to walk outside for it: I loved Mechelen. The buildings, people, views and the fact that it felt safe to walk it's streets at 11 in the night.. I didn't feel the same in Brussels so I'm really considering to stay here for my next business trip - instead of Bruxelles, even if it's not time efficient.

celeryEastYorkshire, East Yorkshire 01/08/2015

This hotel was prebooked as part of our cycle tour. We stayed 1 night. The hotel reception staff were brilliant. We were late arriving and didn't want to go out to eat. We asked if ok to bring in a Chinese takeaway, this was no problem. We sat in the patio area and staff were very obliging and looked after us really well. Hotel room very comfortable, clean and had all we needed. Would recommend this Hotel.

"simpel cheap hotel in mechelen"

JLVoortman, Rijssen, Overijssel, Netherlands 13/05/2015

the hotel has reasonable facilities, bed is from poor quality, matrasse was not good. Shower is not working very good. But compared to the price it is all ok. the breakfest is only till 9:30 in the morning and they start to clear out the breakfest at 9:20 allready. parkingplace is arranged in the neighbourhoud and for free, which is very good.

"Nice stay"

Ray L, Manchester 11/04/2015

Stayed here for 1 night at very short notice, check in was great with the staff member being very helpful, breakfast was excellent and the price was also nice and acceptable, would recommend for a short stay.

"Good location"

Claus_Krogsgaard, Vordingborg, Denmark 25/03/2015

The hotel is next to an entertaining intersection! it is the most illogical thing I've seen so far. bikes and cars gets jammed if they follow the rules :-) The hotel itself has 4 stars - which is a bit steep. the hotel bears many signs of wear and aging - the Internet is Ok but unnecessarily complicated to get started. If you have Business in Mechelen then this hotel are usable.
